  • gerty/georgia — you need to slow down a bit with the forum postings :)

Take it easy, relax, read through the archives and definitely check out the wiki for lots of great tips on getting started (and the answers to every question you've asked for far). But, also, leave some room for others to post new topics.

  • Umm gerty, you stated on your profile who was your best friend, also she is your only friend atm, this friend wings, states on her profile that she's 11 years old, Did you know you are meant to be at least 14 to join Glitch, just sayin.

  • 14? I thought you had to be at least 17 years old?

  • 14-17 with parental consent, Victoria :)

  • (Age issues aside.) Also, when you do have  a group and have invite powers, make absolutely sure you only invite people once. Because of a quirk right now, if they decide to not join, you can invite them again. Don't. Keep track of who you've invited.

  • Good catch anne - sounds like there needs to be a notice about the age limit, if not some kind of age verification, right up front in the startup process.

  • she isnt really that age we were just mucking about wen i went 2 her house she said shall she put her favourite number thats all she does not want people to hear her real age but we both go 2 collage xxx

  • @gerty/georgia    I pray they can teach you to write the English language properly in "collage. "  Your spelling is simply attrocious and I don't know if you are trying to be cute or what...We are pretty loose here in Glitch but gosh....are you for real?

  • yeah i am 4 real and i meant the real spellings but they take 2 long 2 type so i do the quick and easy ones

Posted 16 months ago by The Thief x2 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • and anyway im not posh u can type the quick way lol xxx
Posted 16 months ago by The Thief x2 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I reckon they are 11. I can spell better then that and I'm younger then someone that goes to college
Posted 16 months ago by Marcm Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Gerty there's nothing "posh" about proper spelling. The way you type shows your age. The fact that you never post in other people's thread shows you age. That you just included "love going to collage with Hanna" in you profile shows it. Don't lie.

  • I am sad to realize that the devs cannot control who plays.    Anyone can join and pretend to be a certain age.    The parental control can be circumvented.      I pray that I can have more tolerance for kids playing here but it is really trying at my advanced age.    I am angered at the loss of common consideration.   These kids have no boundaries. When I grew up children were to be seen  but not heard.   In a way this sounds cruel but look at London as we speak.. We have kids out of control because no one cared enough to teach them manners.

  • @gerty/georgia and @Wings: Just some friendly advice for you--please don't advertise your age anywhere online, as there are people that will use this information for bad purposes. It's none of their business, OK?
Posted 16 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @napabeth you think like I do so I know you will enjoy what our daughter posted on FB and I was never more pround of her: But this just doesn't just apply to Texans, it applies to any home where the children are raised with love and respect and have rules and boundries:
I was born and raised in Texas where flip flops are in style Year round, Everyone pulls over to let a funeral procession pass, we don't have fire flies - we have "lightning bugs", "taters" are mandatory, "y'all" is a proper noun, chicken is fried, biscuits come with gravy, sweet tea is the house wine, and you NEVER, EVER disrespected your elders. And "Hook'em Horns" was the international greeting! Re-post if y'all were raised in the ♥ of TEXAS!! Thanks Mom and Dad

  • @celticladyone.. God bless the Great State of Texas where girls can open Coke bottles with their teeth and make a knot in a cherry stem with their tongue.        This is where we raise REAL men and women. The life can be harsh   because   of climate     but give me a   Texas Ranger in an emergency over any other man, James  Bond included.  In Texas people learn to help others because they know this will be returned onto them.. Help thy neighbor...
the world is fragmented due to electronic interference. This brave new age with I phones has made a race of zombies/ these zombies must have constant communication with their cell phones, even in the supermarket. They have become distanced from real life, family, any redeeming virtues....

  • Well, to be fair, Texans have their mugs stuck in iPhones all the time too.  And God so loved the Texans, he created air conditioning just for us.

  • @gerty/georgia: FYI, blocking someone doesn't make it so they can't post things you don't want to hear in your forum threads. However, I am glad to see that you are being careful to only add people as friends if you actually know them. That is very wise.

  • Its interesting to see so many people mentioning age and having a limit but when I started that thread about age most people thought age didn't matter!

OP made my argument better than I ever could have
Posted 16 months ago by Laurali Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Laurali:  Age really shouldn't matter much for people who are supposed to be here, and if I remember correctly, that thread was devolving into stereotypes about as ridiculous as some others we've encountered recently.  (Not implying that was your fault.)
Posted 16 months ago by larky lion Subscriber! | Permalink
  • wow what a surprise a thread that has gone totally off topic....anyone got any tree poison?
At least the kid who made the thread was not the one doing the bitching. I guess that was the grown ups!
Posted 16 months ago by Misha Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm 100% for restricting kids from our game.  I don't want to read how some parents believe their "7 almost 8 year old child" is so advanced nobody would think it's a child playing.  BS

I've been there and it's horrible when children attempt to emulate grownups in online games, with their parents permission or not.

  • I've met some perfectly mature younger users, and some really immature elder users. It doesn't matter what age you are, behavior matters more!

  • One of the most mature people I've met in Glitch is, I think, 17 - exceptionally helpful, intelligent and well-spoken. I think the comments about age not mattering were more along the lines of "...as long as you can behave like an adult, it doesn't matter if you're 17 or 70".

TXT speak irritates me. People who think that TXT speak is acceptable in a forum irritate me a lot (by 'acceptable' I mean not just using it but the whole "I could write properly but I'm too lazy so I'll just carry on like this and I don't care about you"). People will judge you for things like that, or starting half a dozen "Hi" threads. People will make assumptions about your age and intelligence... I would hope that people in collage are smart enough to realize that and that it reduces your chances of getting any help.

At the end of the day, it's pretty much impossible to stop 11 year olds from playing Glitch. The game looks attractive and cute... like any number of child-friendly facebook games. No parent, casting a quick glance at what their child is doing, is going to notice the adult humour, the drug and alcohol references etc

Maybe I'm just feeling defeatist this morning, but I think Glitch is going to be inundated with pre-teens. Presumably FS was the same... pretty graphics, cute animals etc - how were things in there?
Posted 16 months ago by Snazzlefrazz Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i read that fs had a ""RIOT"" of young kids being disruptive, i dont want that to happen here
Posted 16 months ago by Marcm Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree the game does look appealing to little kids. Before I played I thought it was a kids game!! Unless the parent is playing with the child they won't pick up on the adult content, but the kids probably wouldn't either

@larky: the other post wasnt intended to generalize but just speculate about the effects of many mixtures of ages working and playing together in a socially/community driven game
Posted 16 months ago by Laurali Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Laurali,  I know that was your intent, but I think some others really took it in another direction.
Posted 16 months ago by larky lion Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm one of the younger players in the game, and I don't think that people realize that, most of the time. xoxJulie says "I don't want to read how some parents believe their "7 almost 8 year old child" is so advanced nobody would think it's a child playing. BS" Well, I agree, if the child is that young, but it IS certainly possible for children to be mature, enough that people will mistake them for adults.

@gerty/georgia:  You say, "i meant the real spellings but they take 2 long 2 type so i do the quick and easy ones" I don't think people are referring to the "2" for "too/to" or the "coz" for "because" (although it would be nice if you would type those out) - they're talking about the "collage" for "college". That's not "quick and easy" - same number of letters.

All we're saying is, this is an adult game. And in an adult game, it's most enjoyable if people type like adults.
