Only 12950 total votes?

I thought there would be more votes around by now!

Assuming that:
- it is possible to subscribe since a year ago (since when, actually?)
- each month a constant number of new subscribers came in,
- all subscriptions are tin,
- no subscriptions were canceled,
- 90% of all votes were cast in this ballot,

we end up with 2600 current subscribers. Am I close?

  • We don't have to spend all our votes. I still have 5 remaining.

  • Why would 90 % of all votes cast in this ballot?

TS announced that there would be more votings, probably one every month. Frankly, the vote was funny and the election campaigns were delightful, but a lot of people probably don't even really care what kind of animals will be implemented. The important fact for me is that I know: Whatever TS will implement, it will be funny. If it is a rat or an alpaca, there almost certainly will be an ironic twist or some kind of funny idea to it.

If people really would have cast 90 % of their votes, it would only underline my point made earlier, that the rules were not completely clear ("spend" meaning indeed what it means: spent for good).

  • Sorry, NT, your analysis is quite flawed...

First off, "all subscriptions were tin", totally underestimates the number of votes.  Most of the folks that I know from Alpha/Beta days got moly subs. I've only had my sub since Sept, even though I was playing since March 2011, so not all people have subs from the time they were first offered.

Secondly, as stated above, "90% of votes were cast" is also inaccurate and completely overestimates the number of votes cast.  I only voted for a few animals, and still have 85% of my votes to cast in something more important than types of animals. I actually probably spent more votes than many of my immediate friends who have had their subs for longer.

From what I can tell, by the postings in some of the groups, quite a few of the subscribers from Alpha/Beta days haven't been playing as much lately, so they might not have even voted, since the voting time wasn't super long.  And some subscribers may not have voted at all given this was the first chance to see how it all worked, and maybe it wasn't something they felt like voting on...

And each month a constant set of new subscribers probably don't come into the game especially since they went back into beta, and entry is by invite only (and it seems some invited friends early on that opted not to play).  Many fewer newbs have been observed in game recently, so that means fewer players to subscribe in the first place.  And when you are a newb, especially in a beta, you are less likely to subscribe until you decide you are interested in the game...especially since people are really budgeting where to spend real money.

LL, glad you found the campaigns delightful, I found many of them quite annoying and moronic (I'm going to kill myself or quit the game if this animal does or doesn't win?! Really?!).  I hope that those folks already spent a majority if not all their votes, so that for future voting they will be a bit more mum, and it can be actually be more fun (I did think TCF's final plea for alpacas was brilliant, IMO.).

  • Regarding percentage of votes used, since ballots seem to be very rare events, I assumed
subscribers would jump on them. I stand corrected!

Regarding the type of sub, I'm trying to over-estimate the number of subscribers, so tin is the conservative assumption.

Btw, really looking forward to those new pals...

  • Yeah, I only spent two votes, 'cause the appearance of the next two animals isn't an issue I care deeply about.  Maybe a vote will come up in future that I do want to spend them all on, or maybe I'm just too conservative. :)

  • I spent half of mine, but they were not spent in vain since majestic sloths will now grace Ur  with their presence. Also I just lucked out and won a GNG out of the Sloth Super Pack which was just awesome. I'm so glad I posted on that thread.   : D

I think most people probably spent less than half their votes but I could be wrong. I only did it because the race was close and my choice was a finalist.

  • Yeah.  If you look in this thread:

    http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/17753/

You'll see a very small sampling of Glitches who've cast their votes, and even in that group there's a very wide range of percentages used.

This is the first ballot ever, but they're not exactly going to be rare.  In the announcement, they said they'd have them once a month.  That's as often as votes are awarded to subscribers.  So, saving votes makes a lot of sense.

  • I think that (like a couple of the posters above) quite a lot of people also didn't care that much *which animals* were added, and are saving votes for future issues they might have more investment in.

  • Yeah, here's another Glitch opting out of the electoral process for now.  I'm looking forward to the new animals, but I don't have a strong opinion on which ones I'd rather see.

I'm sitting on my votes until I can vote for something I REALLY feel strongly about, such as Ur's clear need for bees.  :^)

  • I didn't get an email announcing that there would be a vote.   I just happened to be online these last few days.   Kind of strange since I get emails when people add me to their friends list.

Did anyone get an email about the voting?
