UNOFFICIAL Glitch IRC

irc.lurkmore.com:6667
#glitch
Pass: hailstoot

They don't read logs. The IRC chat is +k and +s - so no one can see it exists. I don't see this breaking the NDA - but if it does, please tell me, I'll remove it, and wear a hat of shame forever.

This is just for general chat, socializing, and not-necessarily-in-game chat. This will allow Glitch users to chat while the game is down - perhaps form strategies and perhaps friendships.
Came about due to different frustrations about lack of global chat and not being able to chat when not in-game. I know the chat overhaul is coming soon, so this can just be in the meantime.

EDIT: New network! Run by one of our own. This will make it so that there is no problem with being read.

  • The chat isn't that great in-game when the browser is freezing up/the game is lagging. IRC chat is a good idea. If anyone is interested I can give out the information for my network.

  • Awesome. I was hoping someone would start one. :)

  • Johnny - Is it a network you run? If so, that would help with the fear of NDA problems. Also, it would allow us to have an eggdrop client or something.
If possible, drop me a line: drpfenderson@pinkonbrown.org

  • You need an IRC client...man I thought no one used IRC anymore :D Clearly I am not geeky enough.

  • What the heck is an IRC client
Posted 23 months ago by Hburger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • www.mirc.com
Posted 23 months ago by Johnny Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You can join the network and channel, after you run mIRC (http://www.mirc.com - you can Google for other clients), by cutitng and pasting this:

    If you don't have any other networks: /server irc.lurkmore.com -j #glitch hailstoot

If you already have mIRC connected to a network: /server -m irc.lurkmore.com -j #glitch hailstoot

  • Hburger - What system are you on? If on Linux or Mac, you should use XChat or XChat Aqua respectively.

  • i havent seen irc since like '96 man... it still runs?
Posted 23 months ago by Cap'n Bob Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Cap'n - Yeah. Wait, what?
Yes it's still around, and rather popular. Most current group chats are based on IRC. Like Jabber. It's fast, simple, secure, and easy. It will be around for a long time.

  • so i installed xchat aqua and pasted your /server links into the "new network" box and when i try to connect i jus tells me it doesnt exist and that i probably misspelled it
Posted 23 months ago by Cap'n Bob Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i knew there was a reason i never liked IRC... lol

  • Capn - Server box should just read irc.lurkmore.com. Port should be 6667. Username should be your Glitch username with no spaces - you can use underscores. The channel to join (which you can add in the options somewhere - maybe labeled "favorite channels") is #glitch with the room password being "hailstoot" with no quotes.

  • I use xchat. To connect:
    1) Create a new network connection, and name it lurkmore.
    2) Click Edit. The XChat window for that connection will open.
    3) Edit the server for the network connection to read irc.lurkmore.com/6667, then click Close.
    4) Connect to the network.
    5) Join the channel. Type /join #glitch hailstoot

You should be able to get in at that point.

(Edit: The technical writer in me is itching for rich formatting...monospace to denote what you're typing ftw)

  • We're here; we're just away.
Posted 23 months ago by Aerin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Now we have lots of people. Well, for a channel that just started a few hours ago, anyway.

  • I can't seem to connect anymore (though I remember signing on earlier). Is anyone else having that problem?
Posted 23 months ago by EgIantine Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You still can't connect?
Posted 23 months ago by Johnny Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I can't connect anymore, either.
Posted 23 months ago by Aerin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sorry, guys. There was a DNS config issue. I'll update when I fix it.
Posted 23 months ago by Johnny Subscriber! | Permalink
  • DNS should be fixed but it might be cached for you guys for about 30 more minutes.
Posted 23 months ago by Johnny Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you can't connect to irc.lurkmore.com then you can use irc.textchan.com or irc.intern3ts.com since your DNS server wouldn't have cached them.

  • irc.lurkmore.com works now - thanks Johnny!

  • It would be helpful to use your in-game nickname unless you actively use IRC in which case use whatever name you normally do. If you've connected and can't figure out how to change your name then try /nick newnick.

  • We have no problem with an unofficial IRC channel. It's a good thing!

(IRC is actually the primary means of communication at Tiny Speck.)

  • Okay, cool! And I'm on! :3 Do IRCs keep logs of what's been said offline?
Posted 23 months ago by Hburger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The only logs are those which people keep for themselves.
