I think the best thing for glitch to move forward right now is the ability to use things in "kits". For example a butterfly egg kit would be the ingredients for that egg. Same with food recipes etc. Comment your responses!
I'm not quite sure what you mean. I can use the ingredients for a butterfly egg, I do that every time I make a butterfly egg.
If you talking about wanting to move a set of ingredients at once, you can always get a bag and put the butterfly egg ingredients in it. I do that for cooking, it makes it much easier to make a huge batch of Awesome Stew if I know I need to have every slot in my Awesome Stew bag full in order to make 60.
I think they already hold our hand enough on things that need to be made. Making kits would just take the fun out of it for me. I always thought Lego cheapened their product when they went the kit route...I like open ended options. As Zaphod said too...if you really need a kit, build it yourself. Maybe it would be helpful to have 'baggies' to put into bags, where you could have one 'kit' per 'baggie', if that is what you find most helpful. But I'd say, give us the option to build out a kit ourselves, rather than doing all the work for us.
I like the kit idea - because it allows a certain amount of decentralized variation/randomness to the Auction house, but only with a combo of b3achy's and Zaphod's additions/amendments.
So, there could be a new kind of bag made specifically to be used in the Auction house, the "kit bag". It could contain whatever combination of items the seller wanted to put into it. Any player could purchase empty "kit" bags" from a hardware vendor, then add the necessary ingredients to make, for example, 10 Earthshakers or 25 Cedar Salmon Planks or 300 Grade AAA Earth Blocks or whatever "kit" they want to make.
If some players want to pay the inflated prices that these kits would most likely command I say let them. There are so many ways to play Glitch. For the most part I would rather piece things together myself, tracking down and harvesting the stuff I need to make whatever it is I'm after. But the truth is sometimes I'm down in those mines and need the ingredients for a few more Earthshakers or at a shrine and unable to make someExtremely Hallowed Shrine Powder and maybe I would give in and buy one of those kits.
As I write this I have mixed feelings about it. b3achy and Zaphod make good points: "I like open ended options. As Zaphod said too...if you really need a kit, build it yourself" But I think the OP isn't writing so much about what the OP needs as what the OP wants to sell in the Auctions.
So - I like the idea of being able to create packages or "kits" for the auction house, allowing for any combination of items in a "kit". I really love the potential of this concept. Maybe some day we'll be able to build our own houses here - so you could have a kit with all the bricks and other materials needed. There could be party kits with cocktails and mood enhancers and purple flowers. Or a kit of teleportation scripts to every single street with egg plants or peat bogs. The possibilities are open ended and endless.
On the other hand I hate the idea of every quest being accomplished by the purchase of a kit.
But - i would love to see the crazy variety of kits that would surely appear if this were enabled and would love to hear more people's take on this idea.
Basically, to have player made kits, all we'd need is the ability to auction bags. Which would have to include a way an auction listing what was in said bags.
BUT that made me think that it would be awesome to have some other storage ideas that would basically function the same as bags.
- Kit boxes
- Gift baskets
- Gift boxes
@ Lord Bacon-o: Oh my what a can of worms! But I like the gift aspect in addition to the kit idea. Which makes me think of wrapping paper.
The creation of wrapping paper could be tied to paper trees.
Harvest some paper. Click on a sheet of paper and now in addition to the "Drop" and "Write On" etc. options there is a now a "Make Wrapping" option. Lets say it takes 2 sheets. Create your wrapping paper, which has 5 slots. Drag up to 5 items (or groups of items: 10 Purple Flowers, 20 Spinach, 10 No-No Powders, an emblem of Zille and 5 Guanos) Then the wrapped package can be mailed, given, traded, dropped, auctioned, etc.
Opening the package destroys the wrapping. The resulting scraps of paper can be saved and maybe 4 or 5 scraps could be formed into one sheet of recycled paper.
Or another direction for wrapping paper would be the addition of another tool, an upgrade from the Quill, The Printer! Click on the Printer and have the option of course to make a Note, TP Script etc, but also to print wrapping paper. It might give you 5-6 options for colors/designs of wrapping paper. It works like the cooking tools, with recipes. Want to make that Orange Wrapping paper? Insert 1 sheet of Paper and 5 Curry Powders. Don't have Curry Powder? Make More! etc.
Hmmm maybe this whole tangent is a whole new topic?
