Cool Animal Names - an ongoing saga.

I'm enjoying the various animal names and wanted to revive the previous conversations concerning how we name our critters. I've also been looking at butterfly names which I usually ignore and will be sharing some of the ones I like.

Have you seen any names you really like?
Which animals and where?
Have any favorite oldies?
How about number series?

The MBxxxx series highest number I've seen is 2094, don't remember where.
I've also seen a number-only series which was around 1130ish, again don't remember where.

So share 'em if you got em.

  • My pigs are named after Arrested Development characters. They used to be poets, but I thought naming my butler after a poet would be funnier if he was the only poet on my street besides me.

I consistently rename animals "Desire" because i think it's hilarious to run across "A Chicken Named Desire"

  • I've seen streets with names themed after Firefly, assorted fictional doctors, baseball players.... my own home street has piggies named after party characters in Final Fantasy IV, butterflies named after villains, and chickens named after summoned creatures from same. :)

  • My animals usually get 2 names. Both names will start with the same letter. The first name is usually an adjective and the last one is a common name.

    Beautiful Bertha
    Gullible Gilligan

The butterflies on my home street are names of countries.

  • Most of the ones I see that I like are puns.  I tend to forget them, but the most recent one I saw was a chicken named "Yolko Ono".  That made me snicker.

My favorite animals that I named:
    Pigs: Pigculus, Gruesome Violent Tickling
Chickens: Chickulus, InsuffrablyEmasculatingHandshake (damn you character limit!)
    Butterflies: Brutally Invasive Hugs

My private yard pigs are named sort of procedurally - I think of two "random" (ie, the first thing that comes into my head) words - verb, noun or adjective - and then just stick them together.  If they fit, I use it, if not I'll try again.  Some examples of results: Grumpbucket, Flysucker, Dirthugger.  My chickens are all named in a sort of letter ladder format, so I have chimp, chump, champ, chomp, and stuff like that.  One of them is also named Harold.

My butterflies all died, but they WERE named after made up words from various books.  For instance, Doubleplusgood from 1984, Droog from A Clockwork Orange, Hoopy Frood from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

My favorite from this thread so far are the "-ix" piggies :P

  • Well, I'm not very original when it comes to names.

There's another street that has pigs named after famous authors. I thoroughly enjoy going through there and seeing what new author names have been used.

  • I'm letting others name my animals, I have lovely surprises when one of my critters has a new name. Only once have I had to change one because someone named a pig: B*tch. But without the asterisk and with an i. There was no need for that at all. I've still got several blank animals but I just can't bring myself to name them all.

  • My home street pigiies are all named after the British Royal family (no offense intended - I love them all). Drop by and enjoy the thrill of seeing Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William & Prince Harry wiggle with delight when you pet them.
And you have to smile as they happily grunt while you nibble.
    ...Obviously, I'm easily amused...

Inside, the piggies are named after Summer Olympics cities, and the butterflies are Winter Olympic cities.

I tend to name chickens after drag queens. I don't know why.

  • Well, you may notice a general theme in my Avatar and /home naming systems.  My preferences for animals are not far off.

Pigs are Greek and Roman deities and mythological creatures
Chickens are Vikings and characters from Norse mythology
Butterflies are cool, so they get Eastern mythology, including Babylonian, Indian and Japanese
