Staff iMG announcement post

AHHH!!!! WHERE IS MY MAGIC ROCK :'''(
He's taking a break - he'll be back soon with a whole new purpose in life!

My skill is lower! a;lskdjga;lskghasl;dfjk * hyperventilates*
Everyone's skill has been converted to the new scale. Leveling is slightly harder and way less important now.

Where are my invites? I wanted to invite ALL OF THE PEOPLE to this wonderful game!
Sign-ups are currently closed, as the tutorial (and more) are being reworked, rewired, and beautified for the iMG change.

Do I still have mood?
Yup, click your face. No! Stop popping your pimples. No not your avatar's face either silly!  I mean your face in game in the circle upper left hand corner. Hover and you should see your mood.

I'm not getting any gems and I've been mining for a while now!
To find gems you need to have the applicable upgrade.

Mining sucks now! Booo!!!!
That's not a question... But fret not! You can improve your mining skill with upgrades!

Upgrades?
Click on the iMG thought bubble next to aforementioned face circle, this is your iMG menu. Click upgrades and you can see all of your available upgrades!

Can I get more than three a day?
Yes! Each time you buy an upgrade a new one will appear. You can also reshuffle your deck once a game day for free!

I got the same card twice!(?)/Do cards stack?
Some cards will appear many times and their benefits will stack, some are higher levels of the same upgrade, these also stack.

How do I see which upgrades I bought?
It's on your profile hanging out with your skills and achievements.

What else is iMG good for?
We are currently in the testing phases for housing - but once our test homes are reset and housing goes live iMG will be used in cultivations and expansions and the like. (Maybe more stuff too but we'll have to wait and find out!)

Are my upgrades permanent or is it just for the game day?
You and your upgrades get to live happily ever after forever and ever.

There is no "back to world" button at my test home anymore! How do I get home?
Remember that iMG menu? That's how you get to and from the world and your house! You can also still  type /leave and /home into local chat.

Is there a hotkey for the the imagination menu?
Why yes! Yes there is! It's the spiffy letter "Z"

Where are my quests?/skills?/teleportation menu?
In your handy dandy iMG menu

Does my level go down when I spend iMG?
Nope. Your level is now based on how much iMG you've ever earned throughout the life of your character. (As opposed to xp)

What is Brain Capacity?
Your brain can only learn so many skills before it becomes full. When that happens, learning time will go up dramatically, brain capacity allows you to learn more skills before you there is a time penalty.

What is a Quoin Multiplier?
This dictates how much Quoins are worth for you - it used to be based on your level.

Where can I find my Brain Capacity and Quoin Multiplier?
On your upgrades page.

But I've learned all the skills! How would this help me, and why would I want to buy learning speed upgrades?
Shiny new skills are coming sometime in the future

What are Qurazy Quoins?
Qurazy Quoins show up on streets you haven't been to, or streets you haven't been to in a while. They encourage exploration and give a nice amount of iMG. There will be a notification in local chat if one shows up on the street you enter.

Oh no! Someone else is on this street and I got a Qurazy Quoin! *runs frantically looking for it*
Whooaaa! Reign it in cowboy! No need to panic, only you can see and grab your Qurazy Quoin. What a relief right?!

Where is all the stuff from my old house?
It's still there! In your old house. iMG housing has not gone live yet and if you purchased a house in UR it will still be there will all of your belongings.

Why are skill learning times so high now!? That is ridiculous!
Tiny Speck is encouraging skill specialization to create a better player-run economy in the long run. Self-sufficient Glitchen means less demand for more items. (It will be okay and will make more sense when vendors go away and we get player-run storefronts.)You can decrease learning time in a number of ways: upgrading learning speed, brain capacity, and spending favor points. You also might consider unlearning skills you don't need.

  • So that question about qurazy quions.

do other people see them when the quion appears because you showed up, if there is someone on the street when you get there?

(great faq, thanks for assembling it)

  • Great question! No they do not, your iMG is safe :)

  • Does anyone know why suddenly the time it takes for skills has shot up by MONTHS?!?!

I have all the skills, but if I was a new player there'd be absolutely no way I'd want to take 150 days to learn Mining IV.

  • There are learning time lowering cards. I have gotten some, and it has halved my time learning TR2.
Posted 7 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Answered above :)

  • So glad to hear that about the qurary img quion. Now I need the map to show me what street I haven't visited in long time. :)
Posted 7 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have already learned mining IV but can mouse over it to see how long it takes to learn. When the imagination started it was at 150 days for me but by purchasing extra brain capacity and learning upgrades it is already down to 45 days! I am just purchasing the learning upgrades as I can and extra brain capacity so that when new skills come along, I am ready with the low learning times. My current brain capacity is 59! If I can get it to total the number of skills I have then no learning penalty!

  • Awesome job, merth, just to make a minor change I decided to be fix and noticed:

Oh no! Someone else is on this street and I got a Qurazy Quoin! *runs frantically looking for it*
Whooaaa! Reign it in cowboy! No need to panic, only you can see/access your Qurazy Quoin. What a relief right?!

  • Yeah! :)

  • This is a great guide! I do have a question, though: If I buy an upgrade, and later buy an upgrade that is less effective than the other one (i bought it because of cheapness and to get more cards), does the higher-power card stay in effect? Or do they stack? Or does the last card I bought come into effect?

For example, I bought a card that increased meditation by 25% and later a card that increased it by 20%.

  • zachwulf: " I have all the skills, but if I was a new player there'd be absolutely no way I'd want to take 150 days to learn Mining IV."

As a new player you'd first of be taught to invest in 1. skill-learning speed-up cards (in this case: for the mining skills; each skill set has its learning speed upgrades) and 2. brain size cards.

    The long story:
The reason your M4 is at 150 days is because the benefit you got from learning the Better Learnings (that is: brain size increase) is gone. Every skill learned both in the past and now after your brain is full adds a penalty (3% of current learning time, I think) to a next skill you want to learn. Example: by default (I assume still) your brain can hold 20 skills. If the default learning time for the 21st skill you want to learn is 10 days, because you are over your brain size limit, it now takes 10+(3%x10=0.3)=10.3 days. If you learn another skill first (making the 1 10 day skill the 22nd to learn) then the 10 days skill becomes 10.3+(3%x10.3)=10.6 days, etc.

Now imagine, if you will, if you had somehow managed to learn all the skills you have now without ever learning any Better Learning, then by now M4 would probably be at 150 days as well.

    The answer:
whenever a brain size improvements comes up in your cards, try to buy it, each of those upgrades will cut time from any unlearned skill.

  • You can also type /leave into local chat to get back into the world. I find this easier than using the im menu.
Posted 7 months ago by ThursdayNext Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes EE Cummings - they stack. I will clarify above.
Good point ThursdayNext, I will add that too :)

  • Can I undo a card purchase? I have all the current skills and bought improved learning of an animal skill I'm unlikely to need improvement in learning and have already maxed out that skill. I didn't know and it cost 10,000 which I wanted to spend elsewhere.
Posted 7 months ago by jiva Subscriber! | Permalink
  • See above jiva, There will be more skills added so brain capacity and learning speed is still worth it.

I had the exact same issue - I totally misunderstood the cards and filed a bug report to see if I could get a refund and I was sadly denied :(
HOWEVER! I was promised there would be more skills in these categories and that these upgrades would be well worth it.
Posted 7 months ago by La Mariposa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ehn, I'll buy the skills when I need them. Saving my iMG for now, I'm too confused for it all to go in right now.
Posted 7 months ago by jiva Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks for the FAQ! Great job. But I have two more questions:

1 - Is there any way to check my total imagination (the one used for levelling up, not the one for spending)?

2 - Again, I know which level I am on, but I'd love to know how much must I collect to reach the next one. Is that info available anywhere?

  • "Some cards will appear many times and their benefits will stack, some are higher levels of the same upgrade, these also stack."

This isn't quite right. Some sequential benefit cards DO NOT STACK. The first offers a 15% improvement (say), the next a 35% improvement... net improvement: 35%.

I've been stung by this one.

  • Tip: for typing "/leave", "/home", etc., you don't have to click or tab over to the local chat; simply typing the "/" character will move your focus to the chat field and will include the character (so just keep typing).

  • Thanks for bringing this up Pascale - I'm starting to get agitated now. I've been stung too - I spent a lot of iMG on a lot of upgrades I didn't know I didn't need and could have waited for a better card... Ugh!

Okay, so before I edit it again, can anyone confirm this? Do percentages stack? What about Quoin Multipliers? Does learning speed stack? Energy clearly stacks, I'm confused about why that doesn't happen with other things.

This iMG seemed like such a good idea, now it's finally starting to make my head spin...

ETA: Cool Tip! I didn't know that! How useful!
Posted 7 months ago by La Mariposa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Verea, re (2): click on your face in the game client. That will open the player menu. At the top you can see how much iMG is required to get to the next level.
Posted 7 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Is there anyway to see it as a fraction, Stoot? Seeing how much we need is all well and good, but I don't know how much I've earned so far! A few things are based on exp to the next level, and it'd be nice to have a way to see that in the UI.

  • Here's a question for the staff: how do you actually pronounce "iMG" when you read it (not in a header or title)
    "eye-em-gee"?
    "imig"?
"imagination"? (seems a long way to say a short thing, AND a strange way to abbreviate that word)
(or does it stand for the even longer: imagination in the Mind of a Giant?)

    thanks

and an addition to the FAQ: Qurazy Quoins do not count toward the daily Quoin limit, and you can still collect them after you have reached your limit.

  • I'll be back later tonight to update! Thanks Mr. G - that's a good one to add.
Posted 7 months ago by La Mariposa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Liza, though there's not a way to see a percentage, this file over on Glitchium shows the iMG required for each level, so you can calculate it yourself.

iMG 'til level x (from the area below your face when you click on the menu) divided by the Imagination to Gain number at your current level on that linked page times 100 will give you the percentage to go.
Posted 7 months ago by Credulous Ralph Subscriber! | Permalink
  • As far as I've seen so far, any time cards do not stack but one provides 15% and the next provides 35%, there's a Roman numeral after the name.  Meaning that you won't even have the opportunity to draw the second card until you've purchased the first.

Manic Mining II drops mining time by 25% and Manic MIning III drops it by 50%.  It is not, however, a waste to buy Manic Mining II, anymore than it was a waste to learn Mining I before you learned Mining II -- one is a prerequisite for gaining the other.  You will never get a deal that shows all three Manic Mining cards at once, as each will not be in your deck until you purchase the previous.  No one has been stung, purchasing the higher one before the lower one would have been impossible.  Had you held out, you would just have neither.

  • @Saucelah Maybe they've fixed it, but there was indeed a time when you could buy those upgrades out of sequence.

Yes it was bug but is now fixed
