Payment options for those of us who may not be able to use online transactions?

So ... if/when the game takes off, will I be able to find Glitch game cards at, say, my local pharmacy or *wince* Walmart?  I ask because my hubby does not (and never will) approve of my gaming habits, and, as vile and sneaky as it sounds, I may have to take care of my subscription and credit purchases in a more on-the-sly manner than is usual for most independent, adult gamers.

(Rest easy, though, as I WILL subscribe.  Come hell or high water, I'll find a way.)

  • If anything, you could pay a friend and just have them sit with you while you use their paypal or credit card. Or even give you a gift subscription. But

    +3

    for additional payment options.

  • I'm really beginning to hate PayPal myself, and I was one of the founder (or very nearly so) founder members.

  • First off, I'm sorry that your husband doesn't support your interests (at least those involving gaming). I'm sure he has his reasons for feeling the way he does. I'm going to just think that it's because he wants you to himself all the time and feels like your gaming takes time away that could be spent as a couple rather than as separate individuals. That way I won't presume anything other than a happily married couple with different interests at this point in their lives.

You can find what are known as Green Dot cards at many retailers. Check that local Walmart you seem to like so well. Visa or MasterCard debit cards that can be preloaded with whatever amount you want to put on them. Once purchased, you set up an online account with them and use them in whatever manner you see fit. You can be as surreptitious or as honest as you wish. Set up a new gmail acct., w/e.  Grab one the next time you go for groceries and support Glitch with your subscription. Remember, the benefits start immediately but the actual paid period doesn't kick in until Glitch goes live.

I suggest them because as adults some of us feel silly buying ultimate game cards. There are other alternatives out there as well. Don't be discouraged; things seem to have a way of working out. I won't go down the road of suggesting an examining of hearts and seeing where the difficulty in this lies 'cause I reckon you already know. I'll just lift it up if you will.

You know....I honestly feel bad about sharing this with you because I feel that relationships shouldn't have secrets....but I've always been pretty disconnected from reality.

  • Here's a northern European point of view to the payment options:

We don't use much credit cards here. Most of us have debit cards and although they claim that they can be used to pay online, the experiences usually prove this claim to be wrong. So although I have a Visa verified debit card, which is said to work for online payments, I'm sick and tired of getting my hopes up for actually paying with it online successfully! If only there would be some kind of option that I could use my own national online bank (which I use all the time when shopping online in my own country) through some 3rd party without too much headache. I would love to subscribe, but no way I'm getting a credit card even for Glitch!

  • @Malo: Hey now, that's some pretty heavy not-presuming-anything you did there!  I'm not saying I feel a little scrutinized, but I feel a little scrutinized.

(Though, yes, you are correct: happily married couple, RADICALLY different opinions on where The Money should go.  Tale as old as time, song as old as ...   wait, no, that's from Beauty and the Beast, and does not apply.)

Anyway, Green Dot card?  You know, I've seen these here and there, and the funny thing is, it has never occurred to me to use them.  I think something in me has always subconsciously assumed there'd be some pretty rigid strings attached to those sorts of things, and so they've never really registered on my radar.  Looking at the website now, though, it is beginning to feel like a feasible option.  I'll have to read the fine print, but you may be on to something!

Green Dot/Ultimate Game Card/the local-Walmart-I-so-dearly-love aside, alternate payment options for Glitch do still seem like a cool idea to me (so, in a way, this is just a shameless Bump to my own thread, ha!).

  • You can buy a Visa card with cash loaded in it. (You can get it at like, Target or probably anywhere that sells game cash cards. But I've definitely seen it at Target.)

I think it's actually like $4 for the card and then you can put as much as you want it in.

  • Kipple, I'm sorry.

I should have just said, heeeeey here's an idea and dropped the green dot thing and exited gracefully and kept me out of the whole equation.

If I could edit that I would. Too late now though. I was clearly out of line and won't hide it. Want to start over? I won't be a presumptuous jackass and we can possibly salvage a new friendship.

..also, shameless bump for alternate payment options.

  • I'd like to agree with this, I live in SA where I can't use Paypal with my debit card. Have looked everywhere for an alternative to be able to subscribe to Glitch. Really want a subscription and if I were given a payment option I could use, would do it in a heartbeat :) Hope this option comes up,  it would give a few more people the option to show love and support the game :) and have a heart next to their username

  • It's all good.  I bristled a bit, and really didn't have to.   I'm really not the bristly sort!

Funny mood in the air this weekend, ain't it?

I am seriously giving these pre-loaded, store-bought cards a go.  Thanks, all who suggested them!
