Meh at street styles providing platforms others don't

I went to someone's street, who was using some bog style, and they had a HUUUUUUUUUGE background plateau that allowed them to neatly place all their collectors and feeders for the animals, away from having them on the ground in the way of everything making a mess.

However, I much prefer my Uralia looking street. However, my Uralia looking street provides *ZERO* platforms to place *ANYTHING* on, so I have to have all my stuff on the flat ground which looks messy and jumbled up and in the way of everything and the animals.

Street styles were supposed to be purely aesthetic, no? Why is there one that provides functional benefit over all the others? I think my Uralia-themed street should give me a big background plateau to put things on, too! I don't wanna have to change to a theme I don't like just so I can get that kinda usability out of it.

I really want all the street styles to provide these kind of plateaus, not just that bog one...

If you want a ledge, choose a street with a ledge.  If you don't care, choose a street based on aesthetics or music.  I chose based on music, as I saw having piggies on a ledge as a convenience rather than an advantage.  Now Spooky Groddle music, that's an advantage.

I'm giving props to Saucelah here for stating how I feel about it. If you want more ledges to your street, however, after watching the whole creation process of a level (go on youtube, it's out there on how they created Uralia) it'd be difficult for someone to just up and buy your own ledges with iMG I think. • At the end of the day, it's not RILLY about "fairness."

Here I'm thinking about high school, where my brother had a car -- but then he had a job to get to, whereas I had to walk or bike to school; was it "fair" that he had a car and I did not? Yeah, it was. Did I like it? No.  When someone plays the "fairness" card, it always reminds me of two kids squabbling over who got something over who did not.

For us, as others have pointed out better than I could, it's about choices.

There are backgrounds where ledges are appropriate. There are backgrounds where a ledge would be a "forced" fit.

I agree with those who want what they want when they want it.  But game mechanics and aesthetics should trump some of those concerns.

Notional add-ons as I suggested earlier are probably a good solution for SOME but not all backgrounds.
    These could include, where appropriate:
    -  vines (or other climbable architecture)
    -  platform/treehouse structures for bogs and forests respectively.
    -  additional "floaty bits" for Uralia style areas.

Dunno what you'd do for ancestral styles (which have my FAVE music attached).  But I'm sure smarter folks than I can figure that out -- small mesa? sloth tree? Got nuthing.

Don't necessarily agree that ALL the backgrounds need these kinds of features.  It'd be fun to have a tool kit for each background, and then turn folks loose on it, and see what they'd do.

Diversity, creativity outlets -- all those things -- are good values to foster in the game.
Even distribution of features, not so much.

  • I think that all visible platforms, steps, plateaus, ledges, tree limbs, floating islands, roofs, etc. should be useful (provided that they're not tiny bits of far-off background imagery).  One of the biggest initial housing disappointments for me was that I couldn't jump onto most surfaces in yards and streets.

  • I'd have to resubscribe just change to another, get the platform, place my objects, then change back to the one I'm using which I like better.

I'd rather gain a platform on the style I already am using and picked when I was still subscribed. It's the style I prefer.

I've already spent money on this game multiple times, I don't wanna spend more JUST to switch to another style for 2 minutes, and get back to the style I have now. Now if we could have 'purchased' our street styles and kept them regardless of sub status, it wouldn't be an issue, but... Either way... if I'm gonna resub it's gotta be worth more than 2 minutes of placing objects on a platform just because my street style I enjoy has absolutely none.

Besides, you can easily classify the fact they continue floating after the switch to be a bug, and you know TS will probably end up fixing that one day and yeah...

  • This is the kind of issue that I just do not understand.

As I see it, "fair" is just a word that the lazy, and the perpetually (or recreationally) disgruntled use in an attempt to give weight to their whining.

Fair is, after all, just and ideal, and the pinnacle of fair in Glitch would be to remove all diversity.  All streets the same. All houses the same, all Glitchen the same.  Surely a uniformly boring Ur would inspire more "Meh" than a varied, if not always perfectly equitable one.  I, for one, would choose a rich diversity over the blandness of fair any day.

  • What's fair is that we all have an equal opportunity within the rules to choose which background we'd like to use.  It's fair, because we are not discriminated against for anything but our willingness to pay money and imagination.  It's not like players from Canada can't have the bog streets.

That said, I've always dreamed of having more platforms and climbable things on my street.  Also, caverns.  And, the devs have made some mention of working on such things.  I don't know if they still are, but we do know that there is more of something to come.  Stoot himself said that what we are playing with now is just the foundation for future improvements.  So let's keep the platform wishes loud and clear, but not get too upset that they're not here right now.

  • Seriously, why are some of you being so snide? I'm not asking for all the streets to be the same! Just give us some fair functionality. I like the way a street looks, I shouldn't have to switch to one I *don't* like just to have a platform which lets me neatly organize where I put meat collectors or animals. I have 9 meat collectors on my street and I have to space them out in a certain way to avoid being in the way of trees or animal sticks or gnomes or icons or whatever I already have placed down there. It makes the street look messy and unorganized.

However, on say, tis's bog style, she can have them up on a platform all in a nice row, out of the way, and easy to click and grab from without having to mouse-maneuver around other things. It looks nicer and has better functionality. I'm using an Uralia style, why not give me a floaty island or something, which would most definitely fit the theme, that has a similar platform use? It doesn't have to look like, or even be shaped like the diagonal bog cylinder-blob thinger that provides platform functionality for that one bog style... but providing some space in some unique and imaginative way cannot be a bad thing...

I don't know why some of you are resorting to mocking me or just being rude saying that I'm just some 'whiner who wants everything to be the same', that's being mean, I didn't make this thread to have people treat me like total crap alright? This is a legitimate concern of mine. I care about how things look, and I like the way my street looks, but I don't like how I have to use up so much ground space with my feeders and collectors that I otherwise wouldn't have to clutter up at all if I had some kinda platform somewhere like in the bog theme.
