Eglantine wrote a supah dupah hair and skin dye tool to use until the avatar customization interface gets finalized. Here is the link, must use with Chrome: sites.google.com/site/glitc...
@Nanookie
Just put a not on home page about this. What happens if the Devs don't like it, will they just change it back to how it was? Love the idea and your new red hair :) edit......now your BLUE :O
If they don't like it, I assume they will just nuke our accounts, and post mean things about Eglantine on Twitter. But I don't think they will dislike it.
i love this extension, though i think if the devs wanted a colour picker, they would have put one in the avatar editor.
i'm guessing that the primary reason for no picker is because it makes it possible to create colour combinations that look surreal, bizarre and "fake".
but in the context of the alpha .. i dunno .. i think it's a good idea to let it go. see how bad or good total colour customization can get.
it's another form of testing, really.
and since it is a browser extension, it isn't like random new players are going to end up with unsatisfying avatars because they couldn't operate the colour picker to their satisfaction.
You can already make combinations with the current interface that look surreal, bizarre and "fake", not to mention hideous, wackadoodle and "my eyes my eyes".
But there should be as many options for that as possible, don't ya think?
I *leerrve* this, but to add to what stri was saying, well, I remember stoot giving a reason for the lack of being able to pick a custom colour, but i cant remember exaclty what (it was ages ago). Will dig up post in the morning.
"i'm guessing that the primary reason for no picker is because it makes it possible to create colour combinations that look surreal, bizarre and 'fake'."
Yes, by all means, we must remove everything surreal and bizarre from this game about people living in a giant's imagination.
Burn the witch! Her hair changed color!
"We will have lots more colors available, but it probably won't be a free-form picker: given the way the coloring happens, a huge amount of the color space gives really bad results. Also, it is very likely that free players will have a vastly-reduced palette to choose from, vs those who subscribe ;)"
so i'm not coming from nowhere with my comment, however much i would prefer a free form picker myself.
We have no problem with Eggy doing it (yay!, even — and we can't wait till we can better support people doing stuff with the API) but as Bees said, it will break soon. Like, if not the very next time we test, then the time after that. It's just a coincidence that this is The Big Thing we are working on right now :)
But yeah, it won't be a free-range color picker because a much larger choice of colors is one of the benefits which subscribers will have vs those playing for free. Not a bad bargain, we hope!
