What are YOUR thoughts on these mysteries of Ix?

As I stood in Uncle Friendly's, chopping away with my knife and board, I realized that not only is the shoppe larger on the inside than the outside, but the doors/windows are also in different places. Why oh why?
flic.kr/p/bUAQyQ
flic.kr/p/bUAQCG

This got me thinking about many of the other quirks of Ix.  For example: It's been speculated that there is a connection to Hell because of the many Trisor statues. What do you think? Who is he? Why is he in both places?
flic.kr/p/bUAQcY
flic.kr/p/bUAQEJ

Then there are the cracks in the sky! From day to night and back again. Day to night? heaven to hell?
flic.kr/p/bUAQes
flic.kr/p/bUAQh3

What about the mysterious items in Ix? What are we to look at with the telescope?  What are those speakers for? Why do some streets have ruins and seemingly dead spice trees that do not look like a poisoned spice tree?
flic.kr/p/bUAQAb
flic.kr/p/bUAQvy
flic.kr/p/bUAQu7

And then there's Uncle Friendly himself. Sure, he seems like a mere shopkeep..but other parts of Ix would suggest otherwise. Why is there a giant statue of him? Where would that door go if it opened? Is he more important than we know?
flic.kr/p/bUAQqG

I certainly have all my own theories about these things...and perhaps someday TS will tell us more...but, until then:  What are your thoughts? What happened here?

  • At the very least, these are echoes of a larger truth.  If UR is a place that is dreamed up by larger beings, the Giants, then perhaps Ix is where their subconsciousnesses have taken more control than in other places.

This, of course, doesn't mean any of it is unimportant or unprofound!  As we know, the imaginations of the Giants are what have defined everything, even physics itself!

  • Friendly made Ix all on his own, without guidance from the other Giants. He consumed many cocktails beforehand in order to enhance his creativity!

My god, Uncle Friendly's a Time Lord.

  • Pyrrhocorax--interesting!  And, well.."Uncle Friendly"...we have a giant named friendly! do we have any other game characters named after a giant? Could Uncle Friendly be the embodiment of Friendly the Giant? Perhaps the Giant version of a fallen angel? who knows!

  • I think those are two different views of the same two Trisor statues. You can see Uncle Henry's from other streets in Ix, too. And you can see the various stairway contraptions from multiple streets as well. This is one of my favorite things about Ix.

The thought of Uncle Henry being a Time Lord is really disturbing.

  • I really thought the speakers were responsible for that terrible noise that permeates the air in Ix, but maybe they are actually microphones...or maybe a drive-thru order boxes?

  • The cracks in the sky are because Ix is a world egg, on the verge of hatching and transforming all of Ur in its own image. Ix has grown too large for its shell, but is not yet strong enough to crack the shell entirely. If the egg does not hatch soon, Ix will die inside without ever even being born.

Trisor's involvement is by necessity from the shadows behind the curtain, for the fallen giant can only do so much from his distant exile in Hell. In the whirlwind of chaos that would surely arise from Ix's birth, he hopes to weaken the boundaries enough to escape Hell and exact his revenge upon the 11 giants who exiled him. Hell Wine is the opening gambit of his scheme, for through the constant stream of Glitchen passing through the revolving door of death from Cebarkul, he has weakened the boundary between Hell and Cebarkul. All he needs now is a champion, a hero, an unwitting fool who shall play the part and break open the skies, freeing Ix.

The status quo is untenable, and Uncle Friendly is stuck in the middle. He does not wish for Ix to die in the egg, but he cannot allow the chaos that would follow if Ix were to hatch and Trisor escaped. So he sits in Guillermo Gamera Way keeping watch over the Cebarkul breach, and also watching the cracks in the sky through his observatory in Flipside, merely stalling for more time until he can develop a plan that saves both Ix and Ur. Ix lies weakened through Uncle Friendly's subtle works. But he knows that if Trisor ever finds his champion, Ix would awaken. and so the champion must fall. But he doubts himself, if in that in that moment, he would be able to bring himself to bring down the foolish Glitch. Ix stirs in its shell, collapsing time within the egg as night and day coexist side by side.

I see all of this for drunk far too deeply deeply of the Hell Wine, distilled and blended with purple flower, the Scion sees within Trisor's twisted mind. I have seen the hidden worlds beyond Naraka inside Trisor's twisted imagination, his twisted lands that the 11 giants sunk beneath the waves when they exiled him to Hell. With his shrines neglected on the seafloor, Trisor is starved of imagination, but he still seethes with resentment, and he would raise his lands from the seas, with all of the twisted hybrid animals from his imagination, llamoose, monkeyangaroos, and rabbitoads.

How can Ix be saved without destroying Ur? So goes the lamentation.

  • I <3 this thread.   First- I had no idea the sky was cracked until you mentioned it just now.

    So many mysteries.

The things I question most are:

    1. Who names the streets?  Some seem random and others seem like intentional puns.
    2. What the names mean?

Smew Yew cant just be random name generated.  hehe too funny.

    3. What do the broken statues mean as you mentioned.

  • Ah, Miri..but is it really because Ix is a growing egg about to burst, or is it in fact that Ix is the most ancient of lands? Far more ancient than the ancestral lands.  Think about it: isn't it possible that maybe, just maybe, Ix in and of itself is a purgatory of the once-imagined?  A land showing both the three eyed (trisor) and one eyed (friendly and helga) as its only residents.  Had Uncle Friendly legs, would he not climb that Groddle Ladder? Were Trisor not but a stone head, would he not do the same?  I wonder if, more than a power play for Greater Ur, this isn't where the first and second drafts have been sent to thier exile whilst we, the newly imagined (mostly) two-eyed creatures, roam free above.

Uncle Friendly's shoppe is clearly a run-down gift shop.  Imagine that, when the one-eyed ruled the land, Friendly pulled in tons of spectators, cheerful music blaring through the speakers, and charged them a few currants to look through the telescope at the statues of Trisor, the first incarnation of life on the world.  Had Friendly only known that he would befall the same fate..left to man a rickety shoppe, speakers silent, an mysteries everywhere.

  • Trisor statues are everywhere because He was the One True Giant.  Do you notice the little head next to him in some of the Ix statues? That is Clopunny. (Clopunny is the pawn of the other 11 giants that bribed him with Giant status, if he would kill Trisory.....)  He killed Trisor in a fit of jealousy.  Unfortunately, Trisor has no legs, so he can not squish grapes to get out of hell.  All this time I bet you thought he was telling you to squish grapes....Nope, he is muttering to himself. Poor Trisor.

(BTW, the rook was his pet. The rook is only attacking us, because he thinks it's our fault Trisor is stuck in hell.  Poor Rook)

Uncle Friendly is Trisor's Uncle, BTW.  I am sure Avery could fill in the rest of the blanks here.

  • But is it not obvious, my fellow Glitchen?  Ix is the Ur manifestation of the great trinity that is Cosma, Friendly and Pot!  On the Night Side, you have Friendly's domain.  The only shrine on the Night Side of the island is to Friendly, and Helga is his booze-purveying prophet!  Trisor looks on, reminding Glitchen that his domain, Hell, is but a corollary for the world above, and a lovely place to throw a party.  Trisor is a servant of Friendly, is tasked with ensuring that the Grapes of Hell are squished so that the blessed Wine of the Dead can be stocked at the Hell Bar, which must, by its very nature of being a Bar, be a temple to Friendly in the underworld!

Heed, bretheren and sisteren!  The Day Side of Ix is the domain of Cosma!  Cosma built the great Ruta Asuncion, the Stairway to the sun itself (and then promptly forgot about it).  Her shrine in Ruta Asuncion is really the only thing there, aside from the Butterflies and Chickens left behind by pious Glitchen.  Her telescopes are tools of introspection (and outrospection as well), a remnant of an ancient and short-lived cult of Seeing-through-looking-through-a-tube that eventually evolved once focusing orbs became common-place.

And let us not forget Pot, master of all things food related.  It is no coincidence that the streets of Ix are full of spices and it is home to legendary braised-meats.  Nor is it coincidence that Pot's shrine at Guillermo Gamera way is right next to the trans-dimensional vortex of Uncle Friendly's.  Uncle Friendly is the Potian corollary to Helga, prophet of the Pothead way of thinking and eating and then maybe thinking some more, but right after a snack.

Cosma would probably have a prophet, but she forgot.

The cult of Grendaline is also present in Ix, but only in its connection to Groddle via Cosma's glorious Ladder.  In all likelihood, Grendaline's shrine washed down the Great Hole of Ix during a deluge, and has been at the bottom ever since.

Thus, this is the secret of Ix, or at least a glimpse into the secrets as set down by the mad glitchen Al'Sharpitone in the time before the time that we are now in.

TS used to be very creative at the time Ix and Cebarkul were born, who cares about gravity anyway?

  • Actually, for the Uncle Friendly one, I believe there is an actual.... OTHER SIDE OF THE RESTUARANT. WHERE THE STAFF PARTAY WITHOUT USSS

WITH COOL DRINKS AND UNRELEASED DRINKS. !!?!?!?!
It's probably not larger on the inside, just appears to look like that. :P

But, Ix is really a portal through time. While we don't know it, the entrances to it are really time portals. It is a viewing of the future, the time after hell. A place where Hell does not exist, and Trisor has been overthrown.
Uncle Friendly is a mystical squid thing, and has moved that piece of land back through time to show us Glitches what we could do if we did not squish 11 grapes and do our purgatory duty to Trisor, instead of using Get Out Of Hell Free cards (blasphemy!).

So, let it be told, let us not change the whole of Ur to a place like Ix.
Let it be a warning to Glitches, just like you and me, past and present.

  • We've all forgotten about the fountain statues dedicated to Stanley's people. We're all talking about non-standard quantities of eyes, what about non-standard limbs? Helga and Friendly are both squirmy, does this mean nothing?

My solution? Fish fingers and custard. (Or, custard and fish fingers, depending on which side of the crack you're on. I forget.)

  • I think the broken statues are from a long ago Ur-quake.

When Stoot let slip that the Subway will not be long of this world it made me wonder if another Urquake is on the horizon.

I think we should organize a disaster plan just in case. It would be much more daunting to rescue glitchen buried under the subway than we realize. A rook attack is nothing in comparison to what it would take for use to collaborate in a disaster relief effort.

  • Ix is obviously the remains of a world ship that fell from space, hence the strange colors, odd statuary, cracks in the sky. Trisor was the captain of the ship. The natives giants of Ur, being alarmed at the strange appearance of the alien leader, whom they took to be a "giant" because he was the one in charge, banished him to Hell. Well, he was also really angry at the time, because his ship had just friggin' crashed and was cursing and throwing things and just generally making himself unpleasant.

Now his remaining crew members have resorted to commerce to support themselves. They spend a lot of time practicing their dour, unhappy expressions, to keep themselves from bursting out in laughter at all the strange theories the native Glitches come up with to explain Ix.

Spice trees and gas plants are obviously alien plants. Since the giants found them to be useful, they didn't wipe them out and eventually let Glitches cultivate them in parts of Ur outside the crashed Ix-ship. Helga and Friendly are both saddened and amused that some Glitchen now think that gas plants don't belong in Ix. The secretly appreciate it whenever somebody sells them some general vapour, because they can rarely harvest any from the streets of the crashed world-ship these days.
