New skin/ hair colors and new clothes?

Possibly jewelry?
I would be very happy if only the hair colors could be skin colors--cuz they're brighter and more prettier, but boy would I love some new dresses!
Despite my usually red, droopy eyes, and fin-like ears, I am a girly-girl and I like to buy a new dress all too often.

I would love to see jewelry and bright colors and pretty girly-girl options. I have been very frustrated by the strong style preference toward drab, hipster, creepy styles and colors in Glitch. It would be so nice if there were many style choices rather than lots of choices within a few styles.

Especially now that we have "looks" I think it would be so much fun if there were options for everything from Jedi knights to Star Trek to NASCAR drivers to cowboys to ballerinas to Hobbits to Thor to Babe Ruth to KISS to Marilyn Monroe. More choices please!

Of course the real, ultimate cool thing would be if we could apply colors and textures to the costumes like in Sims 3. The same with our furniture. It is super disappointing to me that we cannot put the animal print from the carpets on the sofas and so on! I guess that Sims has spoiled me because I assumed we would be able to do that and also pick our colors from a rainbow box.

  • More choice is great, of course, but taking visual inspiration from brand names and popular culture is a guaranteed way to make the game look dated and irrelevant in five years.  I come here to get away from the constant barrage of Jedi and NASCAR that's everywhere else on the Internet.

I think Glitch is doing it exactly right so far:  they've made a style that's uniquely theirs.  I don't want to come to Glitch and say "wow, that's just like [blockbuster movie that came out six weeks ago]."  I want to come across things in real life and say, "Aww, how Glitchy!"  More options, yes (and girly ones if you must, I guess), just as long as they are authentically Glitch.

  • Some of the skin colors *are* rather muddy. If only my avatar's blue skin were as vibrant as the blue hair! I also would enjoy some different clothing choices. However, I'd much rather the devs concentrate on the more vital elements of the game for now.

  • I would like an option for longer hair.  There's the bob (which I currently wear), but I'd really like to have hair that's half way down the back... and with bangs!

I'm not sure what you mean by "authentically Glitch" in terms of style because there are so many different styles in the many areas of UR. I think it is great that Cebarkul and Shimla Mirch and Groddle Forest all look so different and so distinctive.

The problem is that we don't have that kind of variety in our personal style. What troubles me is that that the predominate style in our vanity and wardrobe is muddy colors and ironic/funky/mismatched items. Not just because they are so limited (and unappealing to me personally) but also because I think that kind of hipster aesthetic will date extremely quickly. First because it is essentially anti-pretty and therefore will seem very unappealing when considered out of its context. And second because what drives it is a snarky, self-satisfied, elitism that believes drab and clunky is always better than anything popular with the masses.

I hope that the wardrobe and vanity items in Glitch will move away from what is currently popular in the coffee houses of San Francisco and toward a wider variety of styles with a more popular and much more enduring appeal. I just love the idea that Glitch could be a place where we can have a wide range of choices in how we live and how we look.

  • I suspect long, flowing locks pose a problem for the animation of avatars, which are probably done in segments. Long, flowing locks would overlap with the torso and arms, requiring many more cells of specialized animation.

  • I imagine you're right, Pascale, which is something that occurred to me as I was posting it.

Still, if I had to request just one new hairstyle, it would be a "librarian bun".  None of the hairstyles we have really lend themselves to the look of an elderly woman, and I've made do with Genki-baba by always keeping a rain hat on her :p

  • +1 Longer and curlier hair! Also it would be so nice if the hairstyles we already had worked with the hats. It is so frustrating when a pretty hat makes you look bald! That is probably related to the problem mentioned by Pascale with things not overlapping properly.

I suppose the issues with the avatar appearance are not that important compared to some of the other things being implemented now but I get a lot of pleasure from that part of the game and it gives us something to do while we wait for the rest of it. Especially now that we have the amazing "looks" feature.
