Gardening: no seed dialog if only one in inventory

How about skipping the seed selection dialog if the player has only one appropriate seed in inventory?

That would allow the "hold down enter" trick to go through an entire cycle of harvest, clear, water, plant (or harvest, clear, plant, water) saving a lot of wear and tear on keyboards and wrists.

  • Amen.

This applies to other stuff too. If there's only one workable selection, select it!

  • Can't do it: I run out of seeds all the time. If it just automatically planted something else because I only had one type left, it'd be annoying (no way to unplant once it happens, either).

  • I for one pick up 30 seeds before cycling through two large garden plots, and I suspect most people who garden a lot have the routine down cold as well.

So you "can" do it, you're just worried it might confuse people who don't plan before planting? :)

  • Just like Janitch I pick up the 30 seeds I need before planting. I don't carry spares on me. It helps with the routine to speed through planting.  I'm sure it applies to other people too. But as Pascale sadi it could/should be that if there's only one workable selection, select it!

  • I'm with stoot - I nearly (and sometimes actually) plant the wrong seeds all the time, so this would really mess me up. So I'm not organised? so be it.

-1, unless it were an optional upgrade.

  • When I'm planting seeds I want to know what I'm planting. Even when it's my last seed. For instance, when I'm planting in stoots yellow-crumb-only plot I wouldn't want to plant anything else than yellow crumb :)

  • I read Janitch's selection " only one appropriate seed" to mean that it only works if you are doing what most of us do, drop all seeds but the one type we are planting.  So, if you have lots of herb seeds, but are planting crops, and only have a single kind of crop seed in inventory, it would skip the dialog and go ahead and plant that kind of seed.

It would not skip the dialogue if you had more than one kind of seed that goes in that garden.

  • Sorry folks, I agree with stoot that personally this would cause me heartache if I was 1 short of rice seeds and ended up with a potato instead. I could always guano the taters, but this still ends up violating one of the tenets of UI design -- never surprise the user.

I keep all my seeds in one bag that I carry. It may be better to leave them in my Bigger Bag of Holding (aka /home), but this is what I do.

  • "Most" people might drop all the other seeds, but I know I (for one) do not. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
