Cosma wants to borrow your computer and give you rewards, AGAIN! Update: this round of testing is over

Thanks for all those who participated, this round of testing is OVER!

------

Glitches of Ur:

Cosma is evaluating new features in the game engine and would like to borrow your computer to test them. And naturally, you will be rewarded.

It won't take any effort to participate (you will not be playing the game, though you can watch it), but it will take 5-15 minutes for most people. You will be rewarded for testing up to three times.

If you use multiple computers, it would help Cosma learn more if you run a test on each (or as few/many as you like).

The whole point of this test is to let the game run by itself on your computer without any interaction from you.

The last time we ran this test, players were behaving very un-Glitchlike. These things we ask you to NOT DO during or after the test (please respect Cosma's wishes!):
* DO NOT use your computer AT ALL (no pictures, no video, no Facebook) while the tests are running!
* DO NOT report bugs at all - even if things look wrong, or you get an error!
* DO NOT interact with the game during testing
* DO NOT intentionally try to re-enter the test locations after testing is complete

When testing is over, you will receive a reward. The next time you launch the game you will be returned to where you started. If you find yourself stuck in a test location, please alert a staff member in Help chat.

Now that you're ready to enlist, head to www.glitch.com/perf/
---
If you encounter any problems during the test, try again.
If you still have trouble, you should stop testing, and Cosma thanks you for trying.

  • Test Run Succesful on - Desktop (win XP) - Chrome, Firefox & IE (last-time IE failed/connection timed out)

Test Run on Dell Laptop (Win 7) - Chrome & FF no problems. IE failed - connection timed out (which is same as last time)

  • I ran it twice, no problem but the third time I get through all 5 tests successfully, I get the screen that says "thank you for testing!" and then when it comes time to get my reward it keeps saying "flash error: null" and asking me if I want to retest.

  • I ran into 2 issues with this last test (I did 2 previous).
    1) my auction expired so the frog showed up and things stopped....no more running across the screen....no more switching to environments. It didn't freeze/crash because the chat indicated that others were coming and going. So I had to click to talk to the delivery frog.
    2) Also, in the chat it indicated that I was going to croak. The last time I croaked during the test, after I squished my way out of hell, i was stuck on the Animal Farm. This time, I just stopped the test.

  • Hello! I tried the test 3 times and it won't work. I go to Hell then Souless then Hell then "Ack - something went wrong." then:

"Hmm, something went wrong during testing:
Assertion failed: Not at empty location
Perhaps you could try re-running the test?"

I've now tried 3 times and same thing happens every time.

  • That was as psychedelic as the ride through the chocolate river tunnel in Wonka's factory... fascinating and disturbing. Thanks for some great images to take with me to dreamland!

  • I'm so sad I can't see all the test places. Something like "Ack - something went wrong" also happens to me, but it's when I am at Animal Farm. :( I wish I could finish it, damn!

  • I've tested 3 times, with Firefox on Linux (ok), Internet Explorer (WindowsXP, ok) and ... Opera on Linux !!!      With Opera, this (performance) test works, but the main client does not (know issue, I think).      Versions: Firefox 10.0.3, Opera 11.62, IE 8.0.6001.18702            Flash: 11,2,202,228 (Linux), 11.2.202.233 (Windows)

  • Tried SeaMonkey -> got "Ack! Something went wrong..." just as the test house dialog came up.
Tried Firefox -> exactly the same
Tried Chrome -> exactly the same
All of the above are current, and are routinely used successfully to play Glitch.
Tried IE -> different error: ! Flash Error: null
All of the above on a system with the following characteristics:
WIndows 7 Home Premium, SP 1
    Intel E8400 @ 3. GHz
    8 GB RAM
    64-bit OS
    Dual screens

A laptop (not this computer) with essentially the same specs (but not the dual screens) worked last time; I'll try it again.

  • I love the tests but I wish there were some statistics at the end (yes, I'm a nerd and I love numbers!) like "ran 3 tests, imagined 1000 objects, took 8:41 minutes".

  • Did the test twice last night and no problems here. Although I do know that I have the most amazing self-control.

  • Failed all three tests of my first run last night. Both remaining sets went smoothly today, though I'm not sure whether to attribute it to there being less people on or my glitchen train staying in place at the end.

  • ok..i did test on desktop, once in Chrome, and once in FF.  All test good.  The only thing, is like last time, i get a while screen on the construct.  I said all test were good, thought you just didnt want us to see what was in there...duh...lol

oh, and also on my iPad, using Photon, everything was fine there too, except the white screen in construct.

  • I keep getting through to 2 tests left, then get disconnected and restart, back to 5 in the same location.  Bummer, I guess no prize for me for having a crappy connection

  • I pressed start and then WALKED AWAY from my computer. Three times. So I hope it helps.

  • First test was on ye olde Vista laptop with Firefox (because Chrome on it seems to lag terribly and give me connection errors to Glitch) which gave me an error the first time (it did that last time) before running it through and there was 3 tests on it.

Second time around on the Windows 7 desktop, Chrome gave me an error, before running all 5 tests smoothly.

I'm curious as to why there was only 3 tests in one instance and 5 in another, but I suppose that's just how it is. Hope you guys got what you need, happy to test for ya!

  • I'm curious about the location names which local chat shows as the places glitches are sent to. I've seen these as locations in my friend list as well; are the texts randomly assigned when you're in non-map places, or is there a difference between "12 galaxies", "another castle", "a non-existent impossibility", "a mysterious vortex", and "a secret place"?
Posted 8 months ago by Eleanor Rigby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's all random. Unless there's some secret street you can access from the Wintry Place portal nobody is talking about

  • I ran one test this morning with Firefox and tonight as I tried to run another with Chrome, I ended up on a 404-like page... Am I the only one in this case ? (I also tried with Firefox and the perf page seems to be gone too...)
