Splanking, as harassment

Going along, minding my own business when up walks someone I dont know. SPLANK...wait on timer to end to ask them to stop...SPLANK....seriously, waiting again... SPLANK....omg!!.... SPLANK.....WTH!!....SPLANK....frustrated and log out.

The ability for someone to keep another person's game frozen for an extended period of time is really awful!  I could not block, I could not type, I could not move, I could not teleport.  I was forced to log out to make him stop.

Please, put a timer on splanking.  More along the lines of "This person can not be splanked again for 1 minute"... That would give the person being splanked an opportunity to either splank them back in return, ask the person to stop, move, teleport, etc.  I know that splanking can be funny, but in this instance it can be very annoying.

  • I think this would be good for the sneezing powder too. It's very frustrating for the game to be completely frozen while the animation for the sneezing, sparkling powder, etc. occurs.

  • try using sneezing powder in a crowded place :) It backfires haha

  • I am not sure how I feel about this.  I have splanked friend and foe in game.  Not sure I can bring myself to believe its so frustrating that it requires nerfing. *shrugs*

  • not that people should be splank attacking, but it is relatively easy to get out from under a splank attack.

there is a bit of lag between splanks and you can hold down the arrow key and button mash jump to hop out of the way in that moment.

  • Splank not lest you be spalnked. So sayeth Cosma, the one true Giant.

  • I don't think I have ever been so vigorously splanked as to feel like this, but I suppose it is possible.  I like splanking as a way to get someone's attention - a couple of days someone was fodding the machine room with animals, and yes, that was definitely a cause for splanking.  I have been the victim of random splank attacks, but I have found that kissing the attacker usually ends the attack.

  • I seem to have found that you can still use your keyboard controls, just not your mouse.

Oh, and moving out of the way doesn't always work, they can also do it from your name in local chat (or their friends list....)

I only know this because my bf and I were testing to see if the splanking badge would work with just one person. It does not. But I did learn various methods of speed-splanking in those 2 minutes.

  • Biohazard is correct. Generally speaking, anything that shut's down your mouse (splanking, max. harvest etc.) can be circumvented by using your keyboard. At least that's been my experience.

  • Lots of those things (many more than you can imagine) do that!! Its ridiculous and poor use of resources since other items dont get downloaded or downloaded right away to get these things..Thats when you get no pics in your list of bag contents and worse no maps...Ive been insome critical situations and no maps for hours sometimes..Stuff that can easily be stored on the local computer...Not to mention the option to not have these overused graphics..How many times do I need a rainbow  to tell me I got a big harvest or the big black boxes about butterfly milk..After a certain level we should be able to turn it off...We should be able to choose what info we get regading repetitious thing.

  • There is a thread about turning off long repetitive notifications. We should have less intrusive stuff cluttering up the screen. Local chat works fine for that stuff.

  • Ooooo, never thought of just walking over by them and hitting the enter key and blocking!

Why make it that difficult, though?  I have been playing since Beta, if I didnt know that, Im sure others dont know that!

  • I love splanking like that, though it can be annoying. Splanking is fun and awesome. But yes, it can be missed like that.

But... you can escape... like people have said. For example, you can use the Tab button to switch to chat while being splanked to talk. Hold down your keyboard.

Maybe a max splank? It's still fun being able to splank 2 times in a row or more... Like 10 times max.

  • Never had that problem since I mostly use the keyboard unless I'm in my yard feeding piggies for plop or in caves feeding batterflies for guano.

  • I don't see how the ease of avoiding being harassed should have any bearing on putting something in place to prevent the harassment. I wouldn't see a short cooldown timer as 'nerfing' what is essentially meant to be a social interaction.Though, if the devs wanted to hold off until this type of thing becomes rapant  (splank-a-noob day!, or some kind of "Dazed and Confused" splanking run amok) I'd not blame them.

  • I just now experienced splanking, as harassment, in the minds in Ilmenskie.  A player *I won't name names here but I did report him* would not stop splanking me and a guy trying to finish a quest, and then kept jumping up and down in front of us blocking our access to the rocks we were trying to mine.  He kept following us around doing it and when we told him to stop he wouldn't.  :: shakes head :: There needs to be a better version of BLOCK in order to prevent players from becoming this abusive, or rather, staying abusive, as blocking only prevents someone from messaging you...

  • @Miso- Exactly. It's all well and good to tell people who've had a problem with this, "Maybe you were just too slow. Sucks to be you; it's not hard to get away from." Yeah, it actually is, particularly when lots of people have lag problems, and difficulty getting split-second actions to work, especially when being splanked to death. Plus, it's pretty damn rude, and asking somebody to stop shouldn't be regarded as some kind of affront (they're splanking you, after all, not vice versa). And the players doing this are almost certainly aware that they're being asshats, as would be evidenced by the fact that asking a lot of them to stop gets no real response unless it's "hahaha u suxxxorz" or some similar luminary witticism.
Maybe it's hard to understand for some reason why that sort of thing might be a massive pain in the ass that might require some sort of adjustment, but consider how much mood you lose, especially as there's not much you can do to recoup it while being mobbed on. That alone oughtta be a good enough reason to limit it or force a pause of appreciable length between splankings.

  • I was the guy doing a quest with Miso.  It was getting very annoying, as it was making my game very laggy.  We put up with it for a bit, but he wouldnt leave us alone.  THere should be a way to block spamming like that

  • I occasionally have fun splank pranking other glitchen, but I always aim for it to be silly rather than harassing.  I don't think I've ever splanked someone more than once, and I usually also play them a music box, or drop them a little gift to show that I'm just being funny.  I think the idea of a timer on the splankee, so that they cannot be targeted in the way the OP describes is a good one.  I think that anyone creating a problem by blocking other players' actions through whatever means is being a bully, and deserves to be reported to the staff.

  • Splank isn't "nerfed" if the timer is on the person being splanked. The splanker is just forced to find fresh victims. :)

And being being able to Disable the giant graphics on kiss.hug.splank would be lovely.
Posted 13 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Why would you want to disable graphics on all you mentioned. Just confused, isn't that just part of our Wonderful Glitch World? Just curious, my friend.
Posted 13 months ago by Ms. Bubbles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Some people would like to disable them because it causes lag for them, and they may not really care about some of those graphics, especially since they can come upon you unexpectedly while you're trying to do something.

  • Perhaps having a cool down of 10 seconds before a person can splank the same individual again would help.

This would also make it so if someone is making a jerk of themselves, multiple people can still splank them into a stupor, but it prevents a single person from abusing it.

  • Old thread. And it's been resolved. You can block the splanker, and they are unable to splank you. Perhaps a thread lock is in order? :)
Posted 13 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I still think this a good idea. I hate to just randomly block people. A timer would be nice
