Animal Crowding on Home Streets - Some Observations

I haven't noticed any posts yet about the animal holding capacities of our new home streets and back yards. I've been experimenting on my home street and currently have 20 each of piggies, chickens and butterflies on my home street.  The really interesting thing is that when I added my 19th and 20th chicken and butterfly, in each case several of them immediately complained about crowding but after a short while the complaining stopped and everyone was happy. I haven't yet had any complaining from the piggies. So currently it's 20-20-20 and everyone is happy. Oh, and my home street is expanded to maximum size.

On another point, I haven't had any butterflies move on to a better place from my home street, and I do have milkers running at high capacity. In my old home, with milkers, I found butterfly life was about 10 days. Has the mechanic been changed?

  • I've had butterflies dying quite quickly in my home.

  • I suppose it's possible they were moving on and visitors to my street were picking up the milk left behind so I didn't notice. However, since the change that gives the animal count when we enter our home street there have definitely been no departures.

  • I would like to be able to break my herd(-to-be) into two groups, but we're only allowed 1 animal stick per area/yard/street ~ it would be great if we could have two of each animal stick per street/front yard, and the max number of each animal/street stays the same. =]

  • I don't like that I can only place one piggystick in my street. I can't spread them :(
Ive got 20 piggies and they dont complain but i dont like how it looks (all in one space, but i dont want them through all of my street). But it would be nice to have 2 spots where they stay.
    Hope that will change someday.

  • For your front yard, assuming you have a max-size yard and the +20% herd size upgrade card, the actual cap is 40-20-20, or 40 piggies, 20 chickens, and 20 butterflies. I don't know the limits for the back yard, however.

  • Thqnks, Zigniber! Out of curiosity is that figure officially posted somewhere or derived by experimentation?

  • Experimentation. Well, I got the info from observing Lx's street (and chatting with him a bit), so I can't say for certain who exactly figured it out.

  • My old calculations were incorrect

  • My butterflies often die off or leave. My public street is expanded to the max and is full of trees. They don't complain about being crowded. What am I doing wrong? What is the secret to keeping butterflies?

  • I'm not sure what happened, but when I came home yesterday, I found a butterfly egg instead of my butterfly.  Is this because my butterfly died and someone left me an egg in its place? Or is something else happening that I'm not aware of?

  • Out in the street a stick isn't exactly necessary.   Try doing without.

  • It is not entirely necessary to have sticks on your public streets, however, I will say they are NICE to have, particularly to keep the animals away from any rocks you may have.
Huge herds of milling pigs and chickens are a serious detriment to mining activity. At least I've found it to be so, personally.

  • Miss Bobbit,

Sometimes the butterflies leave eggs when they die but mostly milk. It could also have been a nice person passing through no way to tell really

  • They also can cause some lag when they all eat off the trees you're harvesting at the same time, too.

  • thank you for the information, I am wanting to have a huge herd of feral pigs running my street and am just waiting for everything to be used up so I can have only trees and animals.

  • Wow 40-20-20!
And how many feeders and collectors? Imagine!

  • 1padme: I don't actually use feeders at all, since I'm on the bubble route with 15 bubble trees, so the piggies get plenty of chances to nom on bubbles.

Miss Bobbit & >^.^< : Butterflies have a finite lifespan based on the number of "interactions" with them. Milk collectors, manual milking, and (I believe) massaging all lower it, while singing to them recovers it a little. When that lifespan expires, they poof, usually leaving behind a few milk or butterfly eggs, though of course, if it's in your front yard, someone else might swipe those before you get a chance to. (I think it's also similarly possible for chickens to be squeezed to death, though I've yet to witness it.)

  • Oh yes, I've squeezed a few chickens into poultry heaven on Glitch
