  • The story is of one person and is the only reported case so far.  Rumours are that there are anywhere from 2m to 10m users on G+ now.  Seems to me there is more to this story than was published.

That said - I don't care as I do not have different personae for different places.  As the lady sang - I am what I am.

  • Hmmmmmm.....  I created PA both on Facebook and G+ to avoid confusion and to retain a little privacy.  We'll see if Google boots me. :(

  • I am using Holly Waterfall right now. As PA said, we'll have to wait and see.

  • According to this article, tech publications have also been given the boot. I wouldn't trust the source of this information completely, simply because I know Wired is still on G+. That's a pretty big publication to miss, if Google cares that much about only allowing individuals to create profiles under their real names.

  • Here's what Google + staff said about it

Here is a quick update on Google+ and businesses:

We have been watching Google+ take shape over the last week and we’ve seen some really great companies get involved. But frankly we know our product as it stands is not optimally suited to their needs. In fact, it was kind of an awkward moment for us when we asked Ford for his (or was it her?) gender!

How users communicate with each other is different from how they communicate with brands, and we want to create an optimal experience for both. We have a great team of engineers actively building an amazing Google+ experience for businesses, and we will have something to show the world later this year.

The business experience we are creating should far exceed the consumer profile in terms of its usefulness to businesses. We just ask for your patience while we build it. In the meantime, we are discouraging businesses from using regular profiles to connect with Google+ users. Our policy team will actively work with profile owners to shut down non-user profiles.

  • I believe the same was technically true on Facebook, although lots of people slipped through the nets.

On G+ I already have the surnames "J", "Coaster" and "Cheeks" in my circles. They're all real people, whose real names I know, but choose to give themselves a little privacy online. I hope Google's reasonably lenient with its policies - ie if you're not using your fake name account to cause trouble then you're OK.

  • I posted this in the G+ group as well.
Those of us with fake names

Short version is that it appears Google allows pseudonyms.  I think we can rest a bit easier.  The article is form Feb 2011, so I suppose it's possible they have changed their tune.  But I doubt it.

Someone just indicated on G+, that this is for bloggers.  So perhaps it isn't safe for us yet.  I've actually emailed Google to see if we can use a fake name.....may have shot myself in the foot - but I have to know.

  • Are we on the way to a RealID Internet type? I rather not share my real name. John Doe will working? I know Facebook pull down a lot of accounts that has share with a celebrity's real name.
