  • Actually, GOD directed a special message to Briar just after the frog-auction-delivery-system was delivered. Briar was upset because it creates a delay between purchase and delivery.... and people have a frog following them around after purchases.

Not the first time you've been famous though Briar - you made it into a couple of game reviews.

  • Yes, Trav----many of us saw her little hissy fit---such a downer for the devs who worked so hard on that delivery system. But, GOD was gallant, as always.

  • Who are you calling bitches briar?
Posted 19 months ago by tweetypie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I wouldn't say you're famous, it's more like infamous.
Posted 19 months ago by ~Scilly~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I missed the hissy fit, but the same thing occurred to me while I was waiting for my sample frog....people use auctions right now in lieu of schlepping to vendors or friends' locations, waiting 60 seconds or whatever it was is going to cramp more than a few power-Glitches' style.

Love love love that yoga frog, but he's not going to do much to increase players' equanimity.   Maybe players can retain personal frogs and keep them hopped up on no-no for instant gratification.

  • Nanookie you make an excellent point.

  • I'm just amused that the switch to a frog-based delivery system happened in the middle of a giant waffle shipment.  Someone somewhere now has a whole lot of extra waffles I suspect.

BTW, now that we have auction couriers, are we going to soon have proper mail system and eliminate the need for 10000 currant auctions of loam? Not to be snarky, but being able to mail stuff between people (for a small fee) would be an awesome addition to the game.
Posted 19 months ago by Blitz Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The delay in delivery time is very much intentional — as was the introduction of listing fees and commissions ... and the new view-all-auctions-for-a-given-type-of-auctions ... and the sorting by cheapest first: the auctions' role in the game economy needs to change to support upcoming changes in bartering/player-to-player trading and vendors.

While the removal of the ability to instantly transport goods from one side of the game world to the other without any economic friction will be a PITA at first, in the long run it will allow more interesting dynamics to emerge.

Or, it won't and we'll change it ;)

  • Blitz — a player-to-player courier system (outside of auctions) is coming very soon. It should be in by next test (but: stuff happens).
Posted 19 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The frog will also allow us to send messages and items to each other directly, stoot said, so hallelujah!  Bypassing the auction page will be worth the short wait.

ETA: didn't see stoot's posts when I posted this!

  • Just have to interject (at the risk of defending the Infamous Briar, haha)...that phrase I think comes from a Big Brother season a few years back. There was a controversial player, Janie Something, that people loved or hated. I thought she was hilarious and entertaining. A small group of the other houseguests kept taunting her constantly, so one night she beat them at some challenge or other, and as she sailed up the stairs, she turned, tossed her long blonde mane, waived gaily, and shouted "Byebye, bitches!" Epic, lol

  • OK so first off, I was just making a light hearted post, and forgive me I forgot that if I'm not in the one clique that runs the forums I'm not allowed to say anything without getting pissed on.  I wasn't calling anyone a bitch. Thanks to Phoebe and Nanookie who haven't lived their lives under a rock and understood I was trying to be funny.  Some people just don't have a sense of humor.
I think that the delivery system will be awesome once everything is tweaked because as is it's not going to fly.  I'm fairly confident in Tiny Speck's ability to make the auction system all that it can be.
Lastly, SavannaBlueRose, Way to show some class because I've never stooped so low as to say something so shitty directly to another player.  But now I will, because you just won the douche-bag of the day award.
Posted 19 months ago by Briar Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Briar, I have to agree that a lot of people on the forums seem to like to band together and piss on others that they don't agree with. I don't understand why some people can't just get over posts they don't like and ignore it. You'd think that this WAS a game for children since so many people seem to be acting like them.
Posted 19 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  •    Why thank you Briar,,,,anything neggy you say or call me just shows who you truly are under all that BS...   you wouldn't know how to make a light-hearted post cause there an't t no heart there at all...(as your continual actions show).

and ty for a good laugh @"I've never stooped so low as to say something so shitty directly to another player"...but then again..projection is your stock and trade......and the truth hurts....
@Cerulean...has nothing to do with "piss on others that they don't agree with"...it has to do with not tolerating the BS name-calling...way unnecessary.but then that's what Briar does best..instigate .....and you know that song?.."Before you accuse me...take a look at your self"

    Peace...out....

  • It would greatly help the friendliness of this forum if players would not call out other players directly and make negative comments about them.   Currently there aren't any specific rules against it, but I have seen this group of devs limit people's activity in a forum when they start doing that.

You'll be doing yourself a favor if you refrain from personal comments, since continuing to do so is likely to bring those rules into play faster, and encourage TS staff to start enforcing them.

To many people's surprise, it wasn't the person who posted the controversial comment who got removed, it was the person who posted the personalized attack.  I've seen a fair number of those "attack" posts in the forum and have been wondering when the 'play nice' rule was going to get encoded and enforced.

  • I object to being 'accused' of not having a sense of humor, just because I do not see the use of 'Bitch' as light hearted and in jest, and I most certainly do not 'live under a rock' because I do not accept the 'B-word' as anything but an insult!

Sorry Nanookie, it just read funny the first time.

  • LOL Nanookie... nice use of language :D
@Briar - hope you don't think my response was intended as an attack, but I think you took it for what it was intended. It was a comment, nothing more.

It never stops amazing me the different ways tone gets lost in text. A word I read as nothing more than a common colloquialism (and it is) got interpreted as aggression, an attack, and made a few people laugh at fond memories.

Want to know what got me over using the word bitch in common language? I breed dogs. Gets a little confusing when the term has functional use in your normal life. When I refer to 'my bitches' I really do mean multiple female canines ready for breeding.... but I also use it to describe my long winded rants about the aggressive/hostile player community here.

Posted 19 months ago by Cassandria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ScillyGirl5. I completely understand & sympathyze with your feelings about the word. But just to illustrate how individual experiences can make us have different attitudes about any given word:
When I was in highschool, my best friend called me a bitch, meaning he thought I was fearless. (I rollerskated down a steep ramp, & didn't smash into the wall at the bottom, lol). I was *soooo* proud at the compliment. Most words are whatever we feel they are, your feeling is every bit as important as anyone else's.
    (p.s. I'll never tell you you're a bitch, hehe)

  • It is simultaneously easy and impossible to insult people around here.   Not that I am trying to, it's just that for every aggrieved posting about a word, there's one that goes something like "my mother used to sing that in a lullaby to me every night!"
Posted 19 months ago by Nanookie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Asshole can ride topside! Nanookie, I'd friend you again if I hadn't already.

Seriously though, guys, at the end of the day, do step back and consider why you're getting all riled up in this forum. Internet drama is an amazing thing- it starts out small, spreads like wildfire, and before you know it, no one can really give a good reason for all the animosity- they just know So-and-So is their enemy and deserves every flame they get. Paranoia!

You'd think on the internet, where everything is forever and all posts are in the archives, it would be easy to determine exactly what happened and who hurt who!

Except it isn't. You have people riding on word of mouth. Taking sides in fights they shouldn't even be part of.

Every time I go into chat in the game, I walk into some new instance of drama. He said she said. Oh I heard he did this. Well he denies it. Well now I'm going to defend him, and shut up this isn't any of your business, well I was there and you weren't and let's change the subject and talk about that person that did that and then said this and they're a hypocrite, let's bitch about them some more while they're not here. Don't you hate her? Gosh, I hate her.

Have at it- it can't be helped, and it's entertaining (at least for people like me who have seen more than one epic messageboard schism over far worse injury). But when you're done, do consider why you dislike that stranger on the internet so very much, why you invest so much emotion in someone you barely know. You'll probably find that the reasons are really silly.

  • I wasn't going to grace this thread with my comment but Nanookie is correct. "It is simultaneously easy and impossible to insult people around here.   Not that I am trying to, it's just that for every aggrieved posting about a word, there's one that goes something like "my mother used to sing that in a lullaby to me every night!""

The reason for this is both generational and related to location. Some people have only come across the context of the word used in the title in a negative fashion and do not realize that it is NOW also used as a slang term to mean buddies mainly in the USA. But what would all of you say to the question "What is a banger"? I bet we'd have at least 3 different answers. So if I said, "Tonight I'm going to blow up some bangers", nearly a third of you would wonder why I want to blow up my sausages! Context is tough to convey in a forum post. Maybe we need to either ask what the original poster intended, or not post these kinds of double meaning things anymore, or ignore them if they offend us.

And just a side note, I remember a very wise woman once told me "if a man calls you a bitch, then you are a bitch - a Babe In Total Control of Herself." (:

  • I just wanna add, it is important to remember the intention behind words that are spoken.  Often times, the intention is more important than the actual words.  "Bitch" has become a very common term of endearment in current media and culture.  For instance, my roommate has left for the summer to go back to Chicago and today I wrote on her wall "Where'd you go bitch?" just as a joke.  Between us, it has become a term of friendship.  While the word may be offensive to some, try to remember that the intention was not to be mean.  If anyone has seen the movie "Waking Life", there is a scene where a woman talks about language and says "words are dead".  I completely agree with that!!  Try to remember that before you take things personally!

You know, sometimes I wonder if Glitch is really just a big social experiment. Especially when I notice things like how the word "instigator" is used to represent who started a thread OR in some of the open ended game mechanics that lead to these long and boring threads. ;)

And that's not a criticism, for the record. I actually find the whole thing fascinating!
