Supyall, Mr. D here.
Decided to make this a separate thread because I'd like to see more collab on it rather than just have it be another one of my innocuous ideas. Though, I still plan to add it to me list.
In any event, I've been doing a lot of thinking about how to add more 'epicness' to the game whilst maintaining the 'free form'/no-rollercoaster-ride aspect to the game. By epicness I mean quests/stories that pull you into the mythos of the game but aren't mundane. The first time I really felt 'pulled into' the game was when I was waiting to get my 'your papers' completed. It just felt so interesting that the game had this DMV-like process, and that it was just part of the society and everything. BUT HOW BORING! That was literally the flow of thoughts in my mind... wow neat... but wow, how boring...
Anyways, so the other key NPC interaction in the game is the conspiracy theorist trees. The trees all dislike one another... or at least don't trust one another. It's very Jim Henson. In fact... one tree even says I remind him of the man, what man, the man with the power, what power, the power of thingy? Well, I picked-up what they were putting down there. Ok, I know, ON WITH IT!
So my idea was that there would be like a quest where some NPC that matters, like a Groddle Mayer or something, IDK, hires you as a private dick. You're to find the truth (or what you perceive to be the truth) behind the Trees' stories. So you have to go around talking to different trees.
Here's where I think a lot more 'world building' could come into play too because, you pick which trees to talk to. At the end of it all, you report your findings to the Mayer/Important NPC. Now this guy takes your info, and the info of all thousands of players who input it, and uses it as a way to determine which Trees are truly trustworthy. What does this mean? I don't know. But, I'm just getting the idea started.
Thoughts/input/whatever. Thanks for reading if you did, I look forward to any contributions that anyone provides.
See you there,
MD
