We shouldn't have to see posts by people we're ignoring.

The whole point of blocking someone is so that you don't have to see them around, right? Well, I can still see what people on my ignore list post on the forums, and naturally it's no less grating than what they say in chat, so I think it should be fixed to block the blocker from seeing the blockee's posts as well as their chat messages.

We should also be able to decide whether to allow them to post in our threads (most other sites I go on don't let you post in someone's topic if they've blocked you). Some people might not want people to know they've blocked them, while others just don't want them around, period...so I think it should be a choice.

  • I don't like this actually. 'Not letting them post in your thread' is probably a bad idea. You could go off badmouthing them and they wouldn't be able to defend themselves. Not seeing their posts, however, makes sense.

  • Nope.  The forums are public spots that should be available to all players.  Giving individual players the right to control threads in public forums is  a terrible idea.

  • We should at the very least not have to *see* their posts.

  • If you can't tell that its their post until you finish reading, then I don't see the problem.

If you start reading an annoying post, you can stop.  I skip over a lot of posts in the forums when I can see that they are full of hot air.

  • +1 I am all for not seeing posts of ppl you've block. And if I can't see them, it doesn't matter if they post in a thread I create. Can't see them! I keep hoping for this and is half the reason why I block people.

Someone else recently suggested something similar. Not a good idea, imo, although it looks to be relatively easy to accomplish by standard filtering tricks.

As your title says, you're ignoring them so just keep doing so ;)

  • Sometimes it's impossible to avoid someone's posts without avoiding the entire thread. It gets problematic when it's your own thread, which is why I suggested the second thing, but I'd be okay with only the first. If it were that easy to just straight-up ignore someone, the ignore function would never have ben invented. (Ignore any typoes. I'm angry over having to rewrite this post. It ate itself.)

If I don't want to interact with someone, I don't want to interact with them anywhere.

  • I don't believe this should be a standard feature for the Glitch forums, but an API or greasemonkey script that calls on the user's blocked list and applies it as a forum filter should suffice.

  • The problem with blocking, even in global, is that then you start seeing one-sided confusing conversations if you're the type of person who blocks people who speak regularly, especially for silly reasons. That's the main reason why I don't block anyone.

Now, imagine that now on a forum thread. If you're the kinda person who blocks people willy nilly, over every little thing they say that might bother you a little, you're not gonna be able to USE the forums because you're only going to see bits and pieces of conversation back and forth between posters and not understand a pip.
