Subscriber items: do we keep items after subscription period is over?

Might sound silly but after owning PSN+ it got me thinking...Can items we purchased/got free while being a subscriber be kept/used after the subscription period?

  • You get to keep the subscriber things you buy with credits. The free subscriber things will disappear from your wardrobe.

  • What happens to free subscriber items that we have equipped (both wardrobe and vanity), assuming that we don't change them?

  • What about facial features or hair?

  • Stars: I believe they currently stay on you unless you change again, but I would not count on that staying true forever :)

Pima: it applies to vanity selections as well.

  • I think it would be a nice incentive if free subscriber items are released monthly...also think we should be able to keep/use free gifts received during our subscriber period

  • I guess that once my subscription kicks in I'll limit myself to the non-subscriber vanity features and make sure I don't use free subscriber-only wardrobe items, only those bought with credits.

I think they eventually come off... one of my glitches ended up nekkid when I didn't play it for a while during test and the sub expired.  This was also a warning... of course things may have changed since then

"Your free Alpha subscription expires next week. No action is requiredfrom you: if you don't do anything, your avatar customizations will eventually revert to the free options* (but you'll get a grace period after the subscription has expired before that happens)."

  • I got the same warning by email a few days ago.  It said I would revert to the default eventually.  I will miss the free subscriber items.  I did get some credits because Tiny Speck totally deserves some money for a game I'm playing so much. Now I'm trying to whether there are any subscriber credit items I absolutely, positively must buy.

I wish we could purchase vanity items with credits.  I would pay credits for my hairstyle.

  • I don't think it's fair for free subscriber items to disappear from your wardrobe if you don't pay one month. The free items change all the time, and I might not be able to get back what I got last month. If you want to keep people from using free subscriber items when they aren't subscribed, gray them out so that when you suscribe again, they are once again available.

  • Not staying true forever? :( I would hate for the items I bought with my subscription=real money to vanish when I stop subscribing.
Posted 14 months ago by Merope Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Merope, if you BOUGHT the items, they are yours forever.  It is only the ones you didn't pay for that don't stay forever.

  • It would be nice to be able to pay for the vanity customizations so they'd stay. I'm always willing to pay for goodies I want on a per-item, permanent basis, but I can't justify a recurring subscription to Glitch based on what I get out of it - at least not at this time.

  • Maybe there can be 2 types of clothing?

1 - Limited stuff purchased with currants

2 - Exclusive subscriber stuff from credits

  • Possibly let players "keep" one item from the non-purchable subscriber only items for each month of paid playtime (maybe requires certain account level?).  Always nice to see companies and groups reward those individuals who are loyal to them day in and day out.

  • I definately think it's really unfair to not be able to keep the free-subscribed items. I wish we could really keep the ones we already have. Then the ones that are released after our subscribing had expired we just can't buy them untill we get another subscription.

Also would be nice if some clothing and hairs were available also to buy with currants.
An example is on Ameba Pico/Pig game. There you can buy some stuff with credits [real money] and others with the currency on the game called 'gummies'.

  • Lila, Tiny Speck has said over and over again that they will  not allow real money to be used to buy stuff that can also be bought in-game with currants.

That's not the direction they want to take their game.  I'm not sure how it's "unfair" that something you were given for being a subscriber is not yours to keep if you are no longer a subscriber.

  • WindBorn:

If you paid for your subscription, even if it was two or three times, or even once. You should be able to keep the free subscription items released at that time. There is no reason to not be able to keep it, since you paid your money you should be able to keep the free items, why not? Since more free subscription clothing are gonna be released after your subscription is over, those ones you wouldn't have but the ones you could get while you subscribed, you could just keep it; at least something.

And about the thought of buying somethings with currants, it could be "free" clothes but we could pay some currants with it, just to spend the currants, and not having an option "credits or currants" of course not! Just some limited basic stuff that could only just be bought with currants.

There are SO MANY clothing designs they could make, why not just release some basic/simple clothing that could be bought only with currants? This way who can't buy the subscription everytime could also have some clothing without having to spend so much rl money in exchange to such a few credits.

  • There is, in fact "some basic/simple clothing" that requires NO credits and no subscription. In addition everyone is given a small amount of credits to spend when they sign up.  You can select over 50 pieces of free clothing and then buy a few with your free credits.

I think TS has done a decent job of providing free players a way to have a pretty cool outfit without paying any RL money for credits.

  • It's wrong we don't get to keep the subscriber items once we have checked it out on the cart. We already checked it out! We should get to keep it! It's been "PURCHASED".

That's like buying something when as a member of a club. But if you cancel your membership, they bust into your house and take your items back. What's the point of checking it out if you don't get to keep it? That's just renting it. It's free to rent if you're a subscriber. LOL

I think once you purchase something to your wardrobe, you should get to keep it. That's fair. Tiny Speck are a bunch of socialists.

  • Just logged in to be mostly naked =/ I had thought we got to keep them if we bought them (even if they were free, but still clicked "checkout and buy") during subscription period.

I can't really say it's unfair, as it was all complimentary, but I thought the statement was as long as you didn't change clothes, they stayed?

  • If it was paid for with credits you get to keep it.  Otherwise it goes away.  The solution is to subscribe again.  It doesn't impact your ability to play the game, and I think Tiny Speck is being very considerate to the free players in not having premium items that give a competitive advantage.

That actually makes some sense, but I am not sure how easy it would be to track.

  • Lorelei,

I'd think you could simply flag it as once purchased, always owned. Then again, I'm only making armchair coder guesses as to Glitch's code and it's likely much more complicated than that.

  • I have been planning to subscribe once my free month is over but I was certain the free options I've enabled would remain active after the trial. It makes sense that we should get to keep the free wardrobe/vanity items/options from that period since new ones will be released anyway. I also spent money on additional credits for some other items. Will these disappear? Some are saying yes, some are saying no. Just curious. I also fully support being able to purchase vanity features and hairstyles with credits!

Just a side note: I see a lot of subscribers pointing out that non-subscribers should be happy with their free clothing choices. If the subscribers weren't able to afford a subscription or credits, would they be happy with their free clothing choices? Or would they be here asking for a few more options as well? It just sounds like people are supporting subscription snobbery and don't want to create a decent middle class, so to speak.

Adding more free clothing or clothing purchased with currants does NOT take away from TS's commitment to free gameplay. Clothing is not required to play the game the way items are for skill sets, quests, or for making currants. So how is adding more clothing choices for non-subscribers (who don't subscribe simply because they can't afford to, for example) going to detract from TS's game philosophy? We can have kickass subscriber/credits outfits and still have more free options at the same time!

  • TS is committed to free game play.  But they still need to have a certain percentage of their players subscribe or buy credits.  They need to keep a balance between what is free, and what entices you to pay for credits or subscriptions.

Given the massive amounts of data they have about clothing purchases, I suspect they are keeping it balanced exactly to their liking.

Anything that you spend credits on, you will keep after your subscription expires.  This includes your free credits at the beginning of the game, and any further credits that you purchased later.   If you did not spend credits on it and it is also a subscriber-only item, then you will lose it when your subscription expires.  How long it takes to disappear from your inventory and/or character depends on the grace period that TS gives you.
