Suggestion: auto-mine

Dear Glitch Devs, I was thinking... would it be possible to implement an auto mining option?
Now to mine you must click 16 times to finish the rock. My idea is to do it automatic: when you click the rock you'd have 2 options in the rock menu:
1) mine "costs 8 energy and takes 8 seconds" (as it is now)
2) auto mine "auto-mine costs 64 energy and 64 seconds" and you'd have to click only once.
The energy would be taken only for what you use, so if another player comes help mine, it would cost you only the energy required until the rock is finished. 2 clicks instead of 16.

  • That's the whole idea of mmos I'm afraid, keeping you busy doing repetitive stuff :p
    You'd probably find it longer actually, if you had to wait 64 seconds in one row

  • oh yes you're right but I'd rather wait those 64 seconds and click 8 to 10 times less instead of clicking for example 11040 times (that is only for 3 badges where I need 69.000 chuncks of metal, didn't count the other things we must mine). 
    And I heard the time is 32seconds when you reach Mining IV

  • No, sorry but I disagree. Part of the work and challenge of mining is its repetitiveness. This would basically be free chunks of whatever rock.
    ETA: if we make the game easier, what's the point in playing?

  • Fern-  Agree.  What's the point if one click does all the work for you?  Might as well add an auto level button and refill energy one as well.  But then again everyone gets a free house now so who knows?

  • How about double the energy for auto-mining and no deduction if someone else helps? Or only half the rocks yielded. Or something like that.

  • There would still be incentive to do a regular mine as opposed to an auto-mine. There's pros and cons for both options: one takes longer and the other requires more effort but less resources (energy). This gives the players more options by expanding their capabilities and minimizing their limitations. It's features like these that allow the game to be more engaging as one is able to select preferences of gameplay.

  • Instead of auto mine, maybe you introduce "dynomite" (cross idea with archeology www.glitch.com/forum/ideas/... ) which is made from fossils or bones.

    You can either mine (as is) or you can use "dynomite" to blow up the rock in one big blast. (only recieving proportional amounts of ore for whats left in the rock minus some for using dynomite)

    Also introducing "Gem Fragments!"

    Huge mood boost too for blowing something up!

    leaves a crater which needs to be filled in?

    takes longer to come back?

    find things at bottom of crater? (gems/moreore/secretareas/molepeople/food/dirt?

  • I'd be more in favor of an advanced mining tool that lets you do the work of two mines in the time and effort it takes to use a pick. Don't want to make things TOO easy!

  • I don't think there should be much concern about the easiness of this new feature. I have recently purchased hundreds of chunks of sparkly rocks at auctions. I was able to acquire them in little-to-no time and with no real effort at all. Those selecting the easier option would be giving up more resources, so it shares a similar concept to the auctions feature. If easiness is a concern, then eradicate the auctions feature.

  • yes my idea is really to leave the options: classic mine + auto mine. The energy used and time would be the same. The only difference would be 2 clicks instead of 10 and each Glitch would choose what they prefer.
    It really doesn't mean that we could mine more at all since we are using energy that is limited.
    I retake the example of the 3 badges I was working on: 11040 clicks, with the auto-mine it would still be 2208 clicks so that's still some work.
    @Crashtestpilot: this is exactly why I ask the devs to implement it directly as extra option in a clever way.

  • That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that there shouldn't be an easier way, because people would use it. I know I would. Which takes the work out of mining, so we're not really earning the chunks.

  • It seems like the intention is that players spend a lot of time gathering individually, but machines can automate the process.  How about adding a mining machine that would accumulate chunks over time?  Of course, you would have to fill your home with rocks for it to work.

  • @Janitch I'm very confident this is on its way :) Stoot claimed months earlier in a post that he wants players to establish 'resource streams' that would replace all the grinding we do to some extent. I think he said something along the lines of wanting players to spend more time deciding where they want to invest their resources, and which resources they want to be streaming rather than gathering them.

    I assume that by the time all of that stuff is in the game (auto-miners and tree-pickers and similar things) there will be more use for resources than just selling at a tool vendor to buy more cubimals ;)

  • If only I could have a little pet Monkey that sat on my shoulder, and I could train it to do things like mine....then I could click on the monkey once feeding it a banana and watch the little treasure go!
