Room at the Inn?

The world is getting really big... and it's only just beginning. Wouldn't it be cool if there were Inns? You could take little trips. Like say you mainly cook so you live and mostly tramp around in the Groddles, but you'd like to spend a little time down in the bogs with the fireflies. Sure, teleportation is pretty awesome for that, but would it be more time efficient if you could establish a home base there?

  • Would be good. Maybe in future they could let players buy more properties and maybe even run their own inns in different areas :)

  • Oh, I like this idea. "I have a room at the Firefly Suites, please have my mail forwarded!"

  • I'd like it more if I could own more than one house. There are obvious logistical obstacles to that- people buying up property then not playing, not enough houses, etc- but I hope there's enough space/the ability to build houses in the future, as an alternative to inns.

  • I like the idea of having a second house- However, I'd suggest it limited to a certain level of subscriber (which would increase income for the game). Perhaps also have the second house cost more by a certain percentage than it would originally, and require a small upkeep (there'd be a lockbox where you drop in various groups of items; say, 10 eggs for the first x while, 2 divine crepes the next time..)

So- harder than owning one house.

  • I've mentioned this elsewhere, but if you're going to do inns/multiple houses, there should be a login requirement, too- maybe every 60 days minimum, or your house or room goes back on the market to keep people from indefinitely holding onto houses after they've bought them, without ever using them. I say inns too, because people shouldn't be able to rent rooms up and reduce their use for everyone else if they don't plan on using them. Like I said, give people a reasonable length of time, but after a certain point they should get opened up to others.

  • I was actually thinking there would be some sort of limiting mechanism to it. Like a game-month maximum stay, with a cost of, say, 250c a game-night. So it's not totally cost prohibitive, but it's definitely not efficient... like a vacation.

And for the record, I like not being able to accumulate wealth in the form of property. But if we are going to keep the 1-house-per-person rule, Inns would be nice as the world gets hugemongous.

  • I love this idea! especially great that if you get a room you can also use the gardens there. i'd love to plant some herbs. :)

  • I don't mind property if it's not ridiculous- cap it at two or three, maybe. I like the idea because it would be easier to diversify crops (say, a place in Chakra Phool with herb-plots, and a place in Groddle Meadows with crops and trees), alters proximity to resources/mining/etc., and provides extra storage if you're the kind of person who stockpiles like it's the Cold War era (I am).

  • It takes the developers very little effort to make more houses now, so I wouldn't worry too much about people not logging in.  If only subscribers were able to purchase second homes, it would give them enormous gameplay advantages, which is something TS is trying to avoid.

Inns might be good, or tents, or maybe even trailers... small spaces where we could drop items, assemble machines, and so forth without fear of other people taking everything.  Personally, I'd prefer the portability of a tent to the fixed location of a hotel.

  • Oh, I didn't mean just subscribers got houses (sorry about that), I just meant buying a house and then disappearing... I live in a building with one other active neighbor bcz most of the owners there don't seem to be playing anymore.

  • In another game I played, u could buy a key to a room at the inn for 1 hour or 1 day. When the time was up, the key disappeared. These purchases were with in game money. But u could also rent a locker for a month, using subscription credits, renewable as long as your account had funds to autodebit. U would lose lockered items if u didnt remove them by end of month or end of credits.

  • Great idea! I also like the idea of players being able to buy and run an inn. And having a small garden that is open to inn dwellers as well.
It took me quite a while in this game before I realised I have to settle down and buy property. This might not be suitable for everyone so this could be a great solution.
