Keep the decorating in Decorate mode?

I noticed recently that even when out of decorating mode, clicking on furniture brings up the verb menu to upgrade etc. (It didn't use to, did it? Maybe I'm unobservant) Isn't that what decorate mode is for? I think it should be restricted to decorate mode because:
a) it would make clicking to walk much easier
b) it would make the furniture seem more like part if the house
c) it weirds me out to see a verb menu for something to have a verb menu in regular mode without glowing blue (and furniture shouldn't glow blue because of reason b)
d) it makes decorate mode make more sense.

Edited for typos.
Edit again: so what do you all think?

  • I totally agree - I'm sick of trying to get things off a shelf and end up moving the whole shelf! NOT COOL!

  • I agree too! Being able to decorate out of Decoration Mode has made me move and redecorate too many furnitures (furnitures? Is that a word?).

  • Agreed - it seems I had a bug that I didn't notice until they changed the decorate function and it was fixed; no mouse over titles on furniture items. It was great - screens worked better as I could actually use them to hide stuff I didn't like the look of & still interact with the screened items (icons mostly) using the mouse rather than keyboard.

It's just kind of annoying that I have to go into decorate mode to interact with anything under the lights or behind screens.

  • Yeah, it is really annoying when you just try to pick an item up.
    +1!

  • Oh yes please, I'm getting very frustrated picking up or moving stuff I didn't want to

  • I remember reading somewhere that Stoot himself was pushing for the non-modal solution. However, I agree with the OP and commenters that this is a mistake. It is much better to deliberately decorate and not break other UI cues and habits we have by making it ubiquitous.

  • @Katchen, I don't really know what you mean... Sorry. Can you explain a little differently?

  • Yes, agreed...I'd rather purposefully be in decorate mode to move stuff around and make changes...vice accidentally doing it.  And yes, would like to access stuff under the lights again, etc.

  • As part of an overhaul of our drag & drop functionality, you can now drag and upgrade furniture without even entering Decorate Mode.
This is from the Glitch Change Log. Just thought it should go here.

  • Please do. I find it really annoying when I try to deposit something in a SDB and I pick up my rug instead.
