Better Learning: An update

Whelp guys. I made a post earlier about Better Learning V. After some crazy donating I acquired it in significantly less time than it was projected.

The results are in.

If my math is right BLV is 100% retroactively viable. Learning it after you know 37 skills already will NOT stop it from adding those excess five skills to your list of skills that incur no penalty. Learning BLV knocked two days off of Mining IV.

Definitely worth the huge investment I put in.

  • Hey, that's the answer I was looking for! Thanks for sharing!

  • That seems like a bug.  I think you are only supposed to have maximum 37 penalty-free skills

  • You do. BLV would just be extending it from 32 to forty. Taking off some of the compounded time you incurred between BLIV and BLV. THough my math might be off, I'm planning on double checking.

  • Actually, after revisiting my math with the assumption that BL skills don't affect the total I've found that my times for base 10 minute skills are about a minute longer than they would be if BLV was retroactively viable. So, I think the final conclusion is ACTUALLY that you need to learn BLV quickfast before your 32nd skill or it won't be nearly as helpful.

Stoot, if you're listening I think it'd be a fair tweak to make it so we can come back to BLV after we've learned a few more skills and get the same benefit as someone who learned it earlier. Thanks. :)

    Oh :(

  • I keep trying to double check my math, but it doesn't help that the devs don't really release live data for these sorts of things. What I know is derived from things Striatic and Biohazard have argued about.

I think I'll take one more stab at the guesswork and post my results :P

  • Would it help to compare unlearned skills?

I think I've learned two more than you in total and am currently learning BL3. Right now my Teleport V reads "7 days 12 hours". Presumably if your unlearned Teleport V lists a shorter time then BLV is retroactive. Or is that faulty reasoning?

  • That's my biggest problem really. Deciding whether my reasoning is valid. Short answer to your actual question... No real idea :) I can check for you though. My time is... 4 days 1 hour :) Sounds good.

  • Hi Liza---good on you for tackling this puzzle. I can not do the math so instead just followed the formulas laid out by Striactic, Tingly, Marebito and others. I was happy that the wording in the BL skill descriptions reflect the 24-28-32-37 number of skills. Anyway, if it is useful to you, here are my raw data numbers for you to work with:

After learning BL 4 as skill # 22, both M 4 and BL 5 learning times decreased to 4d9h36m. After learning BL 5 as skill # 32, M 4 was reduced to 4d. I was told that if I waited to do M 4 as my 38th skill, its time would increase by 2.88 hours. I decided to learn it now as skill # 33 and get that sucker out of the way.

As far as T 5 goes, the data is very interesting as compared to your and Hydi's times. With BL 5 under my belt, T 5 will take me 3d4h48m to learn! But I doubt I will take the Tele track so I expect that T 5 will have increased by the time I learn it. Oh well.

    Hope this information is helpful.
