Urtiquette?

A light look at some things we have learnt the hard way and would like others to learn from?

From me:

1. Please don't think me ungrateful if I don't thank you for RK in Cebarkul at just before a new day....I am probably *trying to die*......

And the perfect anthem for this post just has to be the classic Evil Glitch Song

  • Don't harvest and clear the wood trees!

That was an old one a long time ago when there weren't any enchanted tree forests like in Grimmsea Bottom. Wood trees would go as quickly as they were planted! Thankfully we don't have to worry (as much!), but still, just out of Urtiquette, I don't harvest and clear wood trees on player streets :D

  • Please mine every rock completely. Otherwise it won't grow back. Don't leave stumps, please.

  • Thumbs up Candy Warhol, I've been seeing a lot of "stumps" lately, both in world, and on player's home streets. It's much better to mine a whole rock so that it will refresh, rather than leave a tiny piece.

  • The tiny shreds of rocks bother me too.  Usually I'll finish them up, but not always.  The other day I finished a scrap of dullite (took 5 swipes max) and got TWO Walloping Diamonds. :)

  • I call the "Nubbins" and I love clearing them!  Others like to do it too so I suppose there will always be "Nubbins" left and there will always be Glitchen like me who come behind and clear them  :D

  • Please harvest, but then at least clean up, and if you can, replace (and don't forget to re-water).  Remember, you get crop seeds from the poop for every three veggie crops you feed to a Piggy (and you can feed a stack and get multiple seeds in return).  Herbs are easier - just shuck one or two of that bountiful harvest to get seeds to replant.

Per mining - don't get upset if someone mines with you - you will get some bonus rock with it.  But also don't get upset or follow someone that moves away from you if you are trying to help them mine.  Some folks are solitary players.  Both ways of mining are acceptable ways of gameplay even if they are different than your own.

  • Feel free to find me ungrateful if I do not thank you for using sparkle powder in ceb when its crowded.. though, I likely couldn't type "thank you" even if I wasn't, due to the lag.

  • This wasn't learned the hard way, but it's better to harvest, then water and pet the trees. That way each tree will be fat and happy for the next person.

  • There are some things in player yards that are left there for you to use on the street - such as seeds and fertilidust. Unless you're on the freebie jeebies route, please don't just pick this stuff up and walk off with it, especially if it's over to the side of the yard. It's rude!

Unless you specify this using a gnome or note pole, players are still going to take it. Even if you do specify, more than likely the player is going to take it. It's a "free item".

  • Flowerry Pott, I always harvest trees "backwards" and I feel good about it.. *but I *have been yelled at by people (in ur, not on home streets) who were harvesting around me, and they assumed I was not going to get around to it... cuz they water and pet first, obviously.

So really, its kinda no win.

  • when you run past a shrine where someone is standing, and they give you something, stop to see if it was meant for the shrine. it only takes a second and bad feelings can be easily averted ,

  • Oh, in that vein, I have to say I almost never water and pet a tree. I'm of the opinion that there are 200 units of product for a reason, so that not everyone need spend time watering and petting each tree ;) And somehow I've avoided being yelled at for that!

But I DO water and pet any tree that is below what looks to be around 100 units after I harvest. I just don't see the need to give loving to a perfectly full tree when Ur doesn't get that much traffic anyway :)

  • Regarding "Rock Stumps" - As someone who plays an alt every few months Its extremely time consuming and energy consuming to mine as a newb - where there is one rock there are usually others like it - just finish off the stump and move on, and don't guilt young Glitchen into using most of their energy for less than a stack of beryl.

you took the words out of my mouth, it makes me want to go half mine every rock just cos I can :P

sits back and watches thread turn in to a mining debate/argument - yet again  :)

  • I clear stubs too, they look messy to me, but realise that lower level players might not have enough energy to finish them.  Also, when I was new, I thought that it would be greedy and rude to take all the rock, so maybe others think that too.  It is amazing how many gems I get from clearing the stubs up, so I don't mind.

  • One of the mining quests (Another Day Older and Deeper In Debt) says to wear rocks down to 'nary a nub'.
I think that can easily be misunderstood as needing to 'leave a nub'.

  • I've been seeing it everywhere and it's getting a bit frustrating.  I try to leave the enchanted forests at max when I leave, but I've used an entire jar of fertilidust on a "enchanted" stump forest, just to come back the next gameday and find the forest completely stumped again.  I understand not everyone had fertilidust, but someone needs to keep them up and not let them get that bad.

And rocks... yes, I understand that maybe you don't have energy to clear a rock nub, or you have to get offline quickly.  And what happens in Ur is fine, enough people wander through to finish off the nubs, but yesterday at one point EVERY rock on my street had one little bit left.  That is completely different!! And I don't get nearly enough visitors to finish them off, so I have to police my street to make sure that they're cleared.  Heaven forbid I actually be able to use my own rocks if I need them.  I don't wanna be greedy, I wanna share my rocks with everyone, just please finish clearing it so that it'll eventually respawn for someone else (me).

  • I don't even think anything when one single rock has a stub left - a person might have not enough room in their inventory, or they might be new or their tool might be broken, they might have little energy, all those other very good reasons people have cited. But when, like yesterday, I run through a resource route and find a street with sixteen metal rocks, all of which have just a tiny stub, I must admit I roll my eyes a little and wonder what people get out of doing that.

  • Some other stuff I didn't know for a long time: Splanking causes some people's screen to freeze. Same for sneezing powder and high-fiving apparently. I wish someone had told me that before I accidently upset several people.
Posted 4 months ago by Candy Warhol Subscriber! | Permalink
  • How am I going to get the sneezing badge if it means griefing other players?
    Any volunteers?
Posted 4 months ago by Patricia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • you can get your splanking badges in hell... less likely to disturb the sleeping peeps there than the crowds in cebarkul, for example
Posted 4 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think that if you make people sneeze in a crowded place, and you tell them it was for the badge, Most of them probably won't mind.
Posted 4 months ago by AwesomeCardinal2000 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But, AC, if you do it over and over, it gets very annoying. Also, this wasn't learned the hard way, but do not use sneezing powder in AB. It  makes everyone freeze, and the beans get in the way of mining, not to mention a horde of angry miners will be after you shouting "STOP!"
Posted 4 months ago by NightDraconis Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So - for sneezing, all I have to do is find a gathering of people who aren't doing anything.
Easy enough IRL but the Glitchen are busy folk. I guess Cebarkul and rook attacks are out?
I haven't gone to any parties. If I use the powder, my first party may be my last, eh?
Posted 4 months ago by Patricia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hold a splanking, sneezing (and chatting and trading) party. A party to do stuff towards any badge.  As long as everyone is clear why they are there, and everyone is allowed to splank etc, then you all get a badge and no-one is upset

  • If you are on a housing route, please consider your poor keyboard friends and try to arrange your icons, animals and feeders/gatherers in places around the trees rather than in front of them?

I love being able to give iMG to the streets I visit, and I'm a polite street walker.. but I tend to avoid a street if I know most of the trees are blocked or have too many wandering animals.

That said, I also make an extreme effort to frequent streets that are neat. I love you!

  • Yes, mini-parties for badges go over very well.  You can recruit in Global Chat, just saying what you want to do (and there will almost certainly be more people who want to do the same thing!), and then meet up at your home street (or other appropriate location).  Everyone wins :p

  • Is there still a badge for kissing with garlic?  I remember when I was new, and energy was scarce, it really hampered me when someone did that.  I didn't mind getting a single kiss, but then someone garlic'd me twice!  That really ticked me off.  Just be considerate, and its all good.

  • 1. If you see a fertilite dust next to a wood tree, please use it then put it back. One, you will get more planks that way, and two, the next person who comes can use it to.

    2. If you dont want stubs left on your rocks, please leave a note. There are lots of new players, and they probably think when it disappears, its gone forever. I know I thought that when I first started. So I left lots of stubs when I first started playing, because I didnt want to ruin someones rock.

    3. Please for the love of the Pot, water, shuck and replant!! Even if you dont harvest anything, please at least water. Gardens stop growing if they are in need of water. Have you ever seen a brown wilted herb or veggie? Its a sad sad sight.

    4. Please dont RK people in cebarkul....thats suicide rock. People go there to die and be mourned. It just takes them that much longer to die when you do that lol.
