Warning about Down to the Wire achievement - does not work as described

For you achievement addicts out there, Down to the Wire doesn't work as described. The wording of the achievement criteria is "Contributed to a feat in the last 30 minutes and final 5% of the feat", but that wording is incorrect. The wording for the achievement should read as "Contributed to a feat ONLY in the last 30 minutes and final 5% of the feat".

  • How is this confirmed?

  • I have contributed a lot to the other feats/epics and so gave my time to help someone else on the leader board yesterday with the view to taking off my clothes when it got to the 95%+ point in order to earn this badge, which unfortunately occurred 3 or so hours before the feat time ended.

I then read the small print and realised that in order to achieve the badge the feat has to happen to be in its last half hour AND still have 5% to go. Surely it should just be joining in regardless of the progression of the feat during the last half hour of the feat time?

As I'm never on when a feat starts to get the early starters badge as they usually start in the middle of the night for my timezone I thought I actually had a chance of getting this one.

  • Recently one of the feats didn't finish the supermega until in the last half hour. The whole point of "down to the wire" is that you barely make it. Hitting 95% with hours left isn't down to the wire. It has to be at 95% in the last 30 minutes to count, I would assume.

  • Yeah, it's awkward wording. From reading the text, would seem you could have gotten it yesterday by contributing when only 5% of the goal was left and then contributing in the last 30 minutes of the set 24 hour window. That would seem to accomplish both tasks that are required, but I guess it doesn't work that way.

  • Fyodor, the confirmation was from MrConkin and was discussed in this update (be sure to expand all replies).

  • Thanks PQ! Perfect. That is a horrible, horrible badge, but at least we know. There are so many feats that don't make it into the final 5% that, if you're badge grinding, you have no clue whether to go for the leaderboard or not. Hmmm, unless 'last 5%' means last 5% of whatever gets done. If it means within 5% of the super bonus, that's what would suck.

  • It is a bit sucky, but at least I understand how it works now - thanks guys and Pale Queen:)

  • For the next feat that comes up where I know the hours don't work for me to hang with the leaders, I will try to confirm if last 5% means the feat must hit the max goal or if it just means last 5% of whatever the final achieved total is.

  • My interpretation of the discussion in Live Help yesterday was that it had to be the last 5% of the goal (unclear which goal, or if any goal works), simultaneously lined up with the last 30 minutes of the feat.

I don't think probably we should be expecting to see a lot of Glitches getting this badge anytime soon...

  • I happen to think the idea for the badge is utterly brilliant:  it forces the inveterate badge-hounds (of which I am one) to make a terrifying gamble.  Do we grind the feat in order to take a shot at the leaderboards, or do we wait it out in the hope (the HOPE!) that we might be able to get the last-minute badge?  The torture is delicious.  If there's no 1/2 hr + 5% ending, we've blown the chance at the badge AND the grind.  But if there is and we sneak under the wire, then we have bragging rights for all etUrnity.

  • Actually Zoethor3 is correct.

The badges wording isn't wrong it just takes an amazing series of events to come to together to meet the criteria.
