level one gifting

There seemed to be a lot more discussion about finding level one players in this test than I remember in any past tests, so I'm wondering, what is your favorite thing to give to level one players?

I stick with utilitarian things, like a stack of meat, eggs or cabbage, but give out a couple of chicks, piggies and caterpillars (I like to give random stuff away, not necessarily only to level one players,) just to name a few of the things.

I thought giving no-no powder to level one players would be fun (probably not for the recipient,) and I enjoy giving out really complex compounds, just to think of what the recipient makes of those weird things.

What do you give to level one players?

  • Did you successfully give one away? I saw you dealing with a couple of people who didn't have papers yet, didn't know if you found a lucky winner.

  • I gave cherries last time.  If it was a level 40 quest, I'd give them a 16-slot bag.  I oughta fill their inventory with ambers. ;-)

  • I try to give anyone a yummy looking food gift since I can't tell who is a Level Onesie. This has worked out to my advantage as I have inadvertantly gifted 2 Newbie Glitchers in my quest log. I wonder if one of them recieved one of the three hog-tied hoggies, lol.

  • I dint' find any Level 1s!  Maybe I should go hang out at the Office of bureaucracy?

  • I used the same strategy as Poney Tails and just ended up giving stuff to everyone, unless I recognized them. It seems to have worked as I only gave things to two know level ones.

  • I wonder how long it will take before a low level player realizes were all old, rich and bored and befriends us all?

  • I gave out small bags, random food items, gems so they could get money quickly.

The occasional music block as well.

  • Sometimes I give people random things. I'll give people a single bean if I'm feeling bored. They usually give me a single cherry in return, or something to that extent.

  • My starting newbie package consisted of 5 Mexicali eggs and 5 Bubble Teas.  If I have spares, I'll give 'em a musicblock.

  • @Zaphod

yup. i managed to give a house away this test, including giving instructions on how to get papers.

i've given a couple of houses away in previous tests too, before papers were needed.

  • I'll give a 'gift bag'- a bag with basic stuff like lots of spinach, some pineapple upside down pizzas, slow gin fizzes, Clould 11 smoothies, knife a board, butterfly lotion, piggy bait, and a fancy pick along probably with a note asking to be friends.....

  • I give food if I have it, since that's useful. If I'm out of food I give gems or music blocks.

Now that I've completed the level 1 gift quest, I'm enjoying giving things to my Leeteg neighbors :) I made 'em all piggies yesterday and am going to release a bunch of butterflies next test.

  • I used to give out food and drinks. Now I usually give spinach, which I also give to any other afk sleeping players I come across. (:

  • well next time there should be more level ones, but feel free to drop me anything as I am a lowly level 8 and cannot get much time to play.

  • Heh good on you Riscy BTW I think you gave me some yummy stew once and I completely missed the entire chat but then saw it after you went so if that was you thanks!!!

  • not sure if that was me Emu, but I will pass you something next time our paths cross, although next time I will be gathering to get money for a house instead of wandering aimlessly around the streets like a nomad.

  • I tried to find level 1 players but couldnt,i was going to give them some cherries or cabbages.

I looked in Aldanac which i think is where they start but all to no avail. Maybe i will search around the Office of bureaucracy too.

  • Here's locations where you're likely to find level 1 players.

    GRODDLE FOREST - Forest Start
    Adanac
    Addysshot Croft
    Fairgrower Lane

    GRODDLE HEIGHTS - Heights Start
    Alpine Vista
    Beesfast Heave
    Uplands Verge

    GRODDLE MEADOW - Meadow Start
    Balliure Heath
    Ramsley Sway
    Ritzrock Rise

You CANNOT enter the various Groddle "Start" zones.  There are no signposts that lead into them.  They exist solely for new players to enter the world, and you cannot get back into them once you leave.  However, all newbies have to pass through one of the three normal streets connected to their Start zone, and you can reach those.

  • I think food and beverages are the best gifts, since they're useful and will disappear quickly.  New players have very little inventory space.  I had trouble giving something to one person because he'd already run out of room, with so many people giving him gifts.

  • I give everyone beer. No idea why really, just seemed like a good, friendly, idea the first time so I have continued doing it!

  • @Leah, So it's you I get to thank for my precious porch piggie! Oinkers are (were) one of my favorite fauna! Flocks of Flutterbyes will be most welcome too. Thanky kindly good neighbor, :o)

  • When I first started I didn't have much money so I bought the smaller bags, I think a great gift would be one of the smaller bags to help the new player have more space in their inventory. I think the idea of random gifting too is a great one, doesn't everyone like to get a surprise gift. I will try to emulate you guys and give an occasional gift to a stranger "just because".

  • I've started giving out small bags as well after watching a poor lvl1 get mobbed with stuff and everything piling up at their feet.
Posted 20 months ago by Shwan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Mostly I make sure I chat with them. And give them bags.  Those seem to be a real revelation for most level ones who get inundated with stuff and just end up eating everything to make room in their inventory.

I saw a couple of not-very-friendly level 1 mobbings, too.  Someone's name and location was mentioned in the help channel and within minutes the hordes descended, gave out a bean each and walked off. Without as much as a by-your-leave or hello-welcome-to-glitch.

Also, there was a great idea in the Help channel (I'm sorry, I can't remember who's idea) about gift-wrapped bags.  Stackable bags that could be carried in other bags until gifted or 'opened/ activated'.  I'd love the carry around a stack of those to gift to lower level players.

  • I usually just surprise them with food and a hello and ask if they need any help. The gift-wrap bags sound like a great idea. They could come with an attached note like real life prezzies.

  • Depends on where I'm at, what I'm doing, how full my inventory is, and if the new player is getting mobbed.

In cases where I'm just randomly gifting a new person, I'll typically give them a XS 3 or 4 Music block, then direct them to go donate it to the nearest shrine. It's my attempt to introduce people to donating a little earlier.

If it's someone I know (or I'm randomly being generous), and I have the space to juggle my inventory, I've been giving out Bigger Bags. Two reasons... 1 - The Tutorial loads you up with stuff, LOTS of stuff. I think you exit with 10+ of your inventory slots already filled... drinks, tools, etc. 2 - It doesn't interfere with the early Quest to Buy A Bag. When they get that Quest, they no longer require an explanation on how to increase their carrying capacity... they've already got two bags in their Inventory, and people generally logic out the rest.

Expensive, you bet... but the cash flow after Level 20 is insane. At one point I had close to 40k in currants, took that down to 10k, got back to 35k, did it again, and am now back to 26k. For me.... the expense is totally worth really helping a new player out.

  • Doc, it'd be awesome if you could add that list to the Wiki quest page under 'Hints'! www.glitch-strategy.com/wik...
