  • HOPEFULLY IT'LL BE OK AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO TWEAK IT BUT THE THE AMOUNTS WERE GETTING INSANE AND MOST HIGH LEVEL PLAYERS HAVE ALREADY FIGURED OUT A LOT OF WAYS TO EARN MONEY.

  • thank you stoot darling :)

  • I PERSONALLY THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEA, SINCE IT FORCES HIGHER LEVEL PLAYERS TO SUPPORT THE ECONOMY IN ORDER TO ADVANCE.

  • I never go for currants anyway though I really needed them when I started.  I can now make plenty of currants easily enough.  I am lev. 27.

  • @FairTradeFullStacks Me too! I go through cycles where I make a lot/level up and get loads as well as burn through them pretty quick.

  • So yes, I could probably manage my spending sprees a bit more and do OK, but I really enjoyed the quick cash bonus from a level up.

(It wouldn't let me edit my post to add that^... I tried a couple of times. Weird?)

  • Crap!  This means I have to get a job.
Posted 18 months ago by Nanookie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's plenty easy to make money in the game once you get past a certain level. You just have to find something you enjoy doing, and then keep doing it (ex: mining, harvesting, cooking, blending drinks, taking care of animals, herbs), and then get the necesssary skills to make a ton of products with all the materials you acquire then either auction them, vendor them, or use them! You will see that it is pretty easy to make money.
Posted 18 months ago by Laurali Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Btaylor, they don't have to support the economy in order to advance, they can just sell to vendors.
Posted 18 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Making money from a job is fine, but I'm going to say this sucks for me... I tend to blow through currants pretty quickly. I help the people I've invited pretty heavily. Too many currants has NEVER been my experience this game, so I don't really understand why people in the forums are always complaining about this... What am I doing wrong?

Consider this my vote for the return of currant leveling bonuses :-)

  • +1000 Ix/EoN, i feel the same way, i sell a lot of cheap stuff, below market value for newbs or anyone really, but now i'll have to charge at above cost, and then we won't have people buying, because they have no currants, bring back our levelling currants please.
Posted 18 months ago by ~Annie~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • this bothered me at first, but for only about a minute. the amounts of currants for leveling up really were getting ridiculous, and that much free money being thrown around will only lead to massive currant-sinks such as the 1 million needed to unlock the tower.
Posted 18 months ago by katlazam Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Perhaps a compromise?  A nice juicy bonus with currants at levels 30, 40, 50, 60 (or 30, 50, 70), you get the drift.  I'm fine with removing the currant bonus for every level past 20 (I am sitting on plenty, so they are easy to make) but think that there is more disincentive for leveling up than incentive right now.
Posted 18 months ago by zeeberk Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I like zeeberk's idea and heartily support it.  I spent willy-nilly in the last test so that I could beg, borrow, and favor my way to a Mining IV -- of course, I leveled to 20 at the beginning of this test, and had I known, I would have squirreled some away.
Posted 18 months ago by Circe Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I like that idea too. Maybe it could go every level up to 20, then 25 (getting the feet wet for not having them every level), then 30, then by 10's at least up to 100 (if that is possible to reach). After that, I don't know. Maybe 20's? Though it will be taking a lot more time to get to a new level by then.

At any rate, it'd be nice if the bonus currants for leveling up lasted until 30, I think, should the interval idea not be accepted.
Posted 18 months ago by Little Miss Giggles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think that's OK.  By level 20, you've got mad skills that can be used to make money to keep your personal economy going.

I also wondered about stackability of items increasing as you leveled up. I love my 40 honeys, but I sure didn't need them at Level 3.  Maybe a quest to earn more pocket space? Or learn balance or something.  This should probably be in that other forum.
Posted 18 months ago by Ida Keen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 zeeberk. I think that's a great compromise! After level 20, you get currant bonuses only at multiples of 10.
Posted 18 months ago by duien Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +2 zeeberk.

And yeah, I blew through a ton of currants yesterday in the middle of a project while buying all sorts of materials. Granted, I still have plenty, but that doesn't mean it's "too much."
Posted 18 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Wow big change...yea would have been nice to have a warning...either reduce the amounts, give a flat rate of currants after twenty or so, or give some nice bonuses at intervals like every 5 til 100, then every 10 after 100 til 200 and maybe every 20 after 200...the challenge is that after 20 there are so few quests and achievements as alternates. Yea, it is pretty easy to earn them via mining, cooking, etc...but there will now be a limited amout of currants in the economy. This really should be tested with a reset before the BIG reset to see if it collapses the economy first...

  • Maybe "Organizational Skills" is a skill!  :)  You would need it to be able to use a big, huger-than-huge bag size.

  • Sorry don't agree with having this cap.  Don't see why it was such a problem.  OK lower the rewards or set it at level 50.  This affects my game play.   OK I can deal with it on other ways, but I don't really agree with the concept that after a point you have more currants than you need. That is a personal choice and I actually like to give away currants if I think it will help a friend in 'need', but won't be able to do this any more.   Also it will effect the economy and game play for those e.g.  who like to cook to sell or whatever else.  To me the incentive to play will erode if more of the rewards are taken away.
Posted 18 months ago by ♥joby♥ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I like the combo of zeeberk & Little Miss Giggles suggestion (L25, L30 and every 10 thereafter have larger currant rewards). We'll give that a try and see :)
Posted 18 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think this is a fair compromise. Otherwise we will go the way of how Farmville was, no more Farm cash after a certain level. :(
and this game is about helping the newer players, so if we don't get currants, that part of the game play would really lessen.
(Compromise reminds me of bargaining with salesmen though, start high, meet in the middle.)
    Thanks for considering the players!

  • Wow, nothing like taking out the incentives to level up. First, no more location XP after level I forget which. And now no currant bonus. Frankly, the lack of currants or XP doesn't bother me all that much, as Stoot is right we have plenty of ways to get. BUT, I am wondering about the game tweaks. People used to get play for alot of different motivations. Leveling up. Amassing currants. Participating in projects. Making friends and shooting the shit.

I just want to make explicit that these changes refocus the game away from individual player achievements (IPA). Maybe the IPA folks don't buy subscriptions or clothes so they aren't the market TS wants. If that's what you want, cool. As always, so interesting to see how the game evolves.
Posted 18 months ago by Mac Rapalicious Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Mac -- Don't the actual achievements (the ones officially given that show up on your profile and stuff) keep the IPA interest in tact? And I know they're going to be adding plenty more of those... so isn't that still a rather significant aspect of the game?
Posted 18 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @cerulean, yes. But if the game is getting away from incentives for IPA folks, the direction could be to decrease rewards for achievements, too. Also, I frankly don't know how close I am to getting 5003 of anything, so the achievements are more like surprises than something I am working toward--except in the most general sense. Again, I am just offering color commentary about what these changes may portend. :-)
Posted 18 months ago by Mac Rapalicious Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Fair enough to limit the levels of currant reward to just every 10 levels...but please include some catchy Rock warning that it has changed when you reach that level.  Otherwise players who are expecting to receive a bonus at that next level will wonder what happened and think there is something wrong with the game or may get disgruntled and leave before figuring out that the spacing has just increased.  Have to agree there are already enough dis-incentives to level (teleportation costs come to mind as a big one, fewer quests, fewer achievements), so glad to hear you aren't going to fully take away one of the incentives to level.

  • I'd like the currant bonus to return! I've NEVER had too many currants. I burn through them pretty quickly. Maybe just have one low-set amount of currants people get for level ups to any level, instead of having the bonus increase as levels do?

Or I guess I can live with zeeberk's and Little Miss Giggles' compromise too.

  • Dear Staff:  Something has been vexing me since kevbob replied to my query about the currants after Level 20.  Part of my sheer enjoyment of the game is the compassion, if you will, and generosity and spirit among the players.  That includes giving "a loan", a gift, and random act of kindness to someone you don't even know.  The decision to remove the currants completely mimics real life issues which I know is not at all your intention.  I know, for me, I won't buy an Alakol house, nor a gnome and would rethink my purchases weighing every one carefully.  Having said that, I do agree it shouldn't be so "easy" but why level after 20?  When you consider you future changes, I hope that you will truly believe the game is not just because you've been creative, added twists and turns and brilliant little surprises but that when you give the game a tweak that mirrors real life it might not be such a good thing.  (Ex: one player I know totally enjoys the cooking portion, selling, gifting etc.  Will peeps think twice about buying stuff???One wonders the impact)  It is my deepest wish that you will think of this as the game closes tonight and consider a new approach. (And I will truly try to get out of my funk, and return to my passion for playing)

  • i am level 35 and have never had 50k currants at one time. the most i've had was 40k (two days ago) but i hover around the 35k i have now. i spend 0 time amassing currants and tons of time giving away currants, selling under market value, and spending currants in ways to help out or share the wealth. i send mail which costs $, either as a friendly gesture or to help projects, i give currants to help new players buy houses, or i buy supplies for projects.  i still live in a 5k house.  i sell under market when players ask for supplies that they need and don't ask what it's for.

spending more time having to "make money" makes this kind of community building less feasible, and the game that much less fun, in my opinion. level bonuses are sweet. they're a lovely little surprise where the game gives back, and i like to pay it forward.

  • Since you can still sell to vendors, there will be an influx of currants, even if people aren't getting them via leveling, so at least the economy shouldn't suffer as much as I was originally thinking after reading this...my first reaction was there would be a cap of currants in the game by taking this action, and that could lead to some very dire outcomes - reduction in purchases of items from vendors or auctions, less compassion and help in game, etc.  However, since you can sell stuff to the vendors, there will be an influx of currants into the game economy, and things should be okay in game...unless you opt to take away the vendors like you were saying you were going to do at one point...then we have a bigger issue.

Even though the economy should be okay, it's sad that you are choosing to arbitrarily take away an incentive for leveling.   I really wish there would be bonuses at each level (just like there should still be xp for visiting new streets after 500), but maybe toning them down, so they are reasonable.   Seems many of the current algorithms grow exponentially at certain points (currants for leveling, xp for visiting locations, time increases for skills learning) and maybe they just need to be more geometric progressions.  Would provide much less in the beginning, but would be less insane at the higher levels.  Or maybe keep the progression exponential at the lower levels 20 and below, but then switch to a geometrically progressing algorithm after 20. That should help to ease the insanity without taking away from the players' incentives.

  • I really enjoyed getting currents as a reward for attaining another level. After the long slog to reach level 38, I  now feel more confident about spending currents to buy items to contribute to projects and to earn favor to reduce learning time. The loss of the currents does having me  curious about the dis-incentives to learn skills (time penalties) and now to level. Maybe it is just to slow down the game so that the dev team can put more meat  beyond level 20. If I had my druthers, I would vote for keeping currents as an reward, but perhaps tweak the actual amount.

  • LOUD NOISES!!

Back to being serious...I have never wanted for currants in this game. Perhaps it's because my JRPG nature of grinding works well in this game to earn cash. But I've bought an Alakol house and I could buy at least 2 more with the currants I have in the bank right now. And I don't play that much.

I did an informal experiment last weekend to see how much I could earn mining in an one hour period. I have Mining V, an assload of 16-slot bags and a Fancy Pick/Tinkering combination fueled by Earthshakers. I earned 20,000 currants by selling all the Dullite, Beryl and Sparkly ore I mined, along with the "extras" one earns by mining: gems, music blocks, etc.

Earning currants isn't rocket science. IMO. I'd rather have currant earning from quests than leveling up.
