The REAL Newbie Bag

Napabeth's thread sparked another question for me:  If you could fill a 10-slot bag with items that would be available to you right after reset, what would it contain?

It's your newbie bag, and you can fill the 10 slots with whatever you would like to start out with as a level 0 Glitch.  What would it have in it?  (Current stacking limits and content limits apply, ie you can't put bags in bags)

  • just having a bag to start would be great! Fill it with stuff to sell - and food.  Butterfly lotion and a chopping block and a fancy pick. Empty spaces to gather stuff!

  • I agree with Bree, just having an empty bag to start with would make me happy, haha. I guess the only items I could think of were butterfly lotion and spinach. Everything else I would get as I went along/as I learned the skill. Will be fun to build my stash back up :) I guess if they wanted to throw a fancy pick in there for later that would be okay too XD

  • There really isnt anything difficult to gather except street creator trophies. I guess 8 big walloping diamonds & 2 extremely hallowed shrine powders

  • 1. DR-3 Musicblock - it was a pain in the backside to find and tends to cost silly money due to rarity.
    2. Emblem of Mab - headstart on gardening, so I can get harvesting sooner
    3. Piggy - Hugh Jackman piggy from my pig pen
    4. Piggy 2 - George Clooney piggy from my pig pen
    5. My papers  - because dealing with those irritating lizard things gets tiresome.
6- 10 - 1 of each type of the 5 Easter eggs - Not sure if those in circulation will be staying around after reset, I know trophy's supposed to be staying, but will be sad not to see any of the eggs around, so a set would be a nice thing to have just as a memory.

Maybe my bag wouldn't be the most practical, but working my way up again will be fine really, so most of the stuff's just things that I like :)

  • Considering only the basics and not the items you get from doing something (such as emblems or papers):
    1.  Orb
    2.  Emo Bear
    3.  5 bowls of awsome stew or similar high energy food
    4.  5 of a high emo drink
    5.  Music Block (any one)
    6.  Watering can
    7.  Fancy Pick (I found the basic one almost useless and wasted rare currents on it.  Not useful until Mining is learned.)
    8.  Shovel
    9.  Tinkertool (not really useful yet but good to have just the same)
    10.  4 Tickets

  • easy.

10 stacks of Purple Sno-Cones [100 Sno Cones worth a total of 110,000 currants]

you can buy all the tools without wasting slots, typically with something like 9000 currants left over per slot.

a stack of these is even better than taking an emblem you know you're going to use, as you need less than one stack's worth of donations to earn the emblem PLUS you get XP along the way, and will probably level to get even more cash.

if your goal is simply to get to level 5 and buy a house, i suppose you could trade one stack for papers, donate 4 stacks of cones to 4 different giants to get to level 5 pretty much instantly [or just eat some cones, although the favor is handier] and then sell the rest of the cones for around 50k to buy whatever house you want within a minute or two.

  • striatic, for once i outsmart you! my seasoned beans are 15k currants per stack vs. your sno cone 11k currants.

WOOO feels like I've been waiting for this moment for 8 years :)
Posted 17 months ago by EgIantine Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Eglantine, that's ok.

    sno-cones are still better : ]

lessee if you can figure out why.
Posted 17 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • hmm....level up faster and get enough energy? or because of the currant bonus from leveling up? neither of those apply till you reach the minimum level for consuming blues tho...
Posted 17 months ago by EgIantine Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i'm a bit wrong about purples, and i still have to figure this all out, but ..

you should only need to donate to one shrine to get to blue sno-cone level, and at that point you can use a sno-cone cascade to level quickly to 5th, complete your papers, sell out your remaining inventory and buy a house.

this all presumes that you still need to be at 5th level to buy a house tho. don't know if that's changed since papers were introduced but i'd rather not take the chance.

the reason the cones are better than the beans is because you can do all the leveling in one place, almost instantaneously, which is faster than running between a few streets / shrines coz of the daily favour caps, and waiting on streets to load.

so you gain critical speed in the house purchasing land rush race!

i do suppose the rest of your pack should be seasoned beans instead of cones tho, for optimum efficiency ; ]
Posted 17 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • so i guess we're both right -  it's optimal to pack enough cones to get to your target level (10 or so for me) and then use seasoned beans as slot filler...
Posted 17 months ago by EgIantine Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @eglantine .. i wouldn't say so.

unless your goal is to win the race to 5th level to buy a house and beat the pure seed folks to the property, you're better to go with your original method of 10 slots of seasoned beans.

leveling to 10 via multiple shrines and donated seeds for XP is better because you get favour and emblems along the way whereas with the cones all you get is the XP.

  • makes we wonder if we'll have a similar situation to the last reset where people were hoarding and storing items all over the place in the hopes that the developers would miss something.
Posted 17 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • 1-10: flaps of no-no powders. (Just kidding, hahaa.)
Posted 17 months ago by Lung Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That leaves the rest of us wondering, did the developers miss anything or did the hoarders just lose what they hid?       And, sno cones are really expensive and I don't think we can make them so how in the world would you be able to purchase so many cones to start with, let alone seasoned beans, don't you have to learn some cooking skills first?
Posted 17 months ago by xoxJulie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Julie, this is a fun thread in which we imagine that we are allowed to keep one small bag in our possession when the game resets.

Even if you are at Level 0, you would still have your bag that you had put together before reset.  The question is  "What would you fill those 10 slots with?"

No need to make or buy anything, just bring it with you.
Posted 17 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think my bag would be full of Bigger Bags. Most of my early currants were taken up with the purchase of Bigger Bags. You can never have too many Bigger Bags. Well, until you get to the point where you can't find the tool you need to repair because of ALL THESE DAMNED BAGS FULL OF USELESSNESS!
Posted 17 months ago by Vordus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "how in the world would you be able to purchase so many cones to start with"

a couple of hours of grinding mining.

rather tedious but pretty easy, really.

but i'm pretty sure that the devs fully reset everything last test and no one was able to cache anything.
Posted 17 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "I think my bag would be full of Bigger Bags."

if you had a bag full of tree-beans and sold them, you'd be able to buy bigger bags for every single slot of your inventory and still have more than half of your currants left.
Posted 17 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "if you had a bag full of tree-beans and sold them, you'd be able to buy bigger bags for every single slot of your inventory and still have more than half of your currants left."

But I actually want to play the game! Not having to forego equipment in order to save up for inventory slots makes the game slightly more accessible. Having enough currants to buy anything you want and then having lots left over is a Disc One Nuke.
Posted 17 months ago by Vordus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "Having enough currants to buy anything you want and then having lots left over is a Disc One Nuke."

naw. it'd just get you all the tools, an inventory of bigger bags, and a house. maybe some change left over for an emblem or three.

you wouldn't have even completed a single quest, achievement or skill yet.

i guess there are those achievements for buying stuff, so maybe completed those.

it'd remove a few hours of grinding from the first 10 levels of gameplay, but would hardly spoil the fun bits.

  • Guess I just take everything at face value, so well gee Windborn, I still couldn't afford a backpack full of sno cones if I sold my house and everything else.  Besides those ice headaches I get from munching them forces me to eat at least 10 packages of no no with a purple flower chaser.  So what would I keep, hmm.  Spinach so I could still jump, a full firefly jar so I can see in the dark, and the rest just filled up with crystals to trade for everything else I needed.

    5) Fancy Pick
    6) Fancy Pick

    8) Fancy Pick

  • A memory book full of pictures and mementos of the pre-reset world to sit on the living room table in my house in the new world.

A time lapse video spanning from the first speck on the first map to the map of the world just before reset that would play on a small mobile Glitch device.

A limited edition "I survived the Glitchpocalypse" t-shirt. (Plus one in the mail for the worldly me)

And a land claim for my current house in the future world.

  • I was thinking something Giant themed... maybe the emblem of a giant and some items associated with it. For instance, Spriggan might give you his emblem, a watering can, a hoe and some beans while Cosma might give you her emblem, an orb and some bubble tea. Of course, it would be quite difficult to balance and certain giants would have a payoff further down the line than others, but it would be cool and atmospheric.
