Subscription: Tin, Copper, or Molybdenum?

If you're subscribing to Glitch, what type of plan are you getting?

I'm not overly bothered with credits, but some tokens would be nice so Tin is not an option for me.
However I'm half thinking that Molybdenum would be a bit overly plenteous and make me a lazy Glitch.

What are your plans? (Or have you already subscribed?)

More information: Subscriptions

Tin:
$30 per year, 1 vote

Copper:
$54 per year, 150 credits and 20 teleports per month, 3 votes

Molybdenum:
$89 per year, 400 credits and 50 teleports per month, 5 votes

  • Silster: The pricing for this game is structured as a monthly subscription.  It is not a one-time-purchase game.  The monthly cost is right line with a lot of other MMO games.  Also, the game can be played for no cost at all with few limitations.  All of the pay-for perks are options and enhancements.

  • @Silster:

If you play an MMO like WoW, you pay $50-60 for each expansion in the store and then $15 a month ($180 for a full year) to be able to play it continuously afterward.

With Glitch, you pay nothing for the game if you don't want to, and if you choose to pay for a subscription, at these beta rates, it's only $80 (as I think it's $89, then you get another 10 off for some reason) for the whole year. Granted, it will be far more pricey after launch, but hey, you still don't have to buy a sub to play if you don't want to.

LotRO may be more comparable as you pay nothing for the basic bits of the game if you don't want to (since it became f2p), but if you choose to pay for a sub, you're paying $10 a month, or $120 for the year.

For the price of any of those games, you can hardly go to the movies- I'm talking bare-bones, no refreshments- once in a given month for a 2 hour movie. Whereas you get endless playtime throughout the month if you choose just one sort of game to play. Now of course, if you play a bunch of cost games, it adds up to far more, but if you just choose one, it's certainly not a bad deal.

It really comes down to choice and what people value for their entertainment, as well as what they can afford to spend on their entertainment. Some people prefer to spend a little money on a game that they know they'll enjoy a ton; or pay nothing for it if it's not required to have a subscription. Some people would rather go out to movies or out to bars or bowling or what-have-you and spend a bit more money for their entertainment. Or just buy a game that has nothing but initial cost in the store.

People that are pleased with the product thus far are the people posting in this thread, and obviously they have faith in where they put their money, hence the effusive love for the sub prices.

TL;DR: Yes, people will pay that much for a game if they enjoy it enough and know they'll get what they feel is their money's worth out of it. It comes down to personal preference on what to spend money on for entertainment, of which these types of games offer a lot more bang for the monthly buck than the movies; if it's your cup of tea.

  • Copper.  I'd happily pay the Molybdenum price if I felt I needed the extra credits and TP tokens, but I think the perks of Copper are just right for me.

  • L'MissG.. Thank you for putting into words what I did not..  I don't go to movie theaters, which cost a lot.  I don't go bar hopping (not anymore anyway)  I don't bowl (though I wish I could but can't due to CPS).  A month of those activities could easily add up to what a Moly cost me.  To each their own, I say.  Playing in Glitch for free never made me feel like I had to sink money into it for credit to enjoy the game (as many games do).  I bought my sub during Beta because I wanted to a) invest in my future entertainment at a discounted rate and b) the extra perks.. Simple as that is..

  • I think the fact that you could subscribe to WoW or LotRO or any major MMO for approximately the same price says it all. Hell, you could buy a lifetime subscription to Free Realms for the same price, or get a ton of stuff in Kingdom of Loathing.

And all of those currently have a lot more gameplay to them than Glitch does right now. Yes, I realize the game is still in beta. Yes, I realize people have the right to do whatever they want with their money. But personally, if the game launched as-is, I would see the pricing as a rip-off.

  • Silster - you don't have to be a shill to be enthusiastic about something.

  • I was graciously gifted a Moly subscription, so I get all of it's benefits for free :D

if that hadn't happened and I had the money to spend, I might have gone that route anyway. and yes, it does make me lazy.

  • And, hey, at least they haven't tried to sell us $70 monocles.

The fact is you can play all of this game for free. Folks should. If spend $89 gives you pause, don't. Pay what you want... even if that is nothing. That actually makes me feel better about what I've paid, in a weird way. Because I've been given the choice.

I break it down by cost of credits. Because of when I bought my Moly, if the game launches in three weeks or so, each credit will be around one and half pennies (compared to seven and a half pennies if I bought credits 40 at a time).

  • LBO - I said something similar to your second point here.

  • I'm not sure abotu this, but if WindBorn has a Moly subscription I may be onto something. She got Wellies named after her... and it seems that I did, as well, unless it's just a coincidence and they really just chose Cerulean as a color, haha.

Anyway, my point is that maybe certain subscribers will also have certain wardrobe items named after them? I could be totally wrong but it's just a thought. Either way I really love my Cerulean Wellies, lmao, and will never be changing my username because of this. xD

  • I'm thinking about Copper if I can get the funds for it. Molybdenum would be wonderful, but I'm a kid. I'm not prepared to spend nearly $100 on an online game just yet.

  • Just bit the bullet, swallowed my paranoia and mistrust of online financial transactions and bought a Molybdenum subscription.

Actually don't need a subscription since I am not really fussed about what my Glitch looks like but I was tempted by the teleport tokens.

Would have been OK with a Copper subscription but decided to go for the big one for two reasons.

    1. To support the game.  I played Faunaspere, never bought a subscription, and it folded.  I am afraid Glitch might do the same if it isn't well supported!

    2. I was afraid I'd regret not getting the top tier while I had the funds.

Major concern - It has only just occurred to me to wonder how much I will actually be charged given prices are, presumably, in Canadian dollars and I just paid in Australian currency.

    *Whimpers and worries*

  • @Enola -- From what I understand, Tiny Speck has the resources to last years, and is only getting stronger and stronger. :) As for exchange rates and the like, considering the U.S. Dollar is weaker than it has been historically, you may actually be better off paying in Aussie dollars. :P

  • I chose copper subscription; I don't have much money at the moment, but I wanted to subscribe.  I do like my teleport tokens :D

  • I'd love a Moly subscription, but I can't justify spending the money at the moment.  I might go for the copper soon, as I would pay that much or more for any xbox or computer game I'd buy. And with those I lose interested quickly.. Glitch is much more entertaining!
