As such, I've been running around the residential districts and planting wood now. People are just too selfish to leave them be on the streets and wood tends to survive better in residential areas.
I try to keep in that state a wood tree in my house area. Sad is after a hour or two it is left to a near death state. So i keep using Fertlindust Lite to grow it again...and again...and again...
Please people use Fertlindust Lite on wood trees and do not leave them in that sorry state. Be nice look for them after.
This applies to all trees in common - water and pet them when they need it.
I try and keep one in my area but then someone will come along and finish the little fellow...not that I mind but then they plant another tree there which the area has at least 2 of them...ugh since then I have resorted to...gasp...poisoning trees..I really don't like to but there are a lot of people looking for wood trees and I am not comfortable about inviting them back to my place...shades of cheap dates lmao....
Sometimes poisoning measures have to be taken. :/ Like when people replace my wood tree with a bean tree. >< Cause goodness knows there aren't enough bean trees in the wild.
@ Keymo lmao...too funny glad to see people with a sense of humor....@ Nerdcore yes I know there are plenty of those around but for some reason they like planting more bean...fruit...bubble than wood....dunno why but I will try and keep at least one where I live...and in my garden too...
I don't think paper trees have the same levels that other trees do, ICount.
And I'm not sure a wood tree would work for the please the tree quest. (edit: nvm, they do! :P)
As for growing/maintaining wood trees, I would if I could but I don't have botany to kill off the other trees :\
Just wanted to respond to Millie - pretty sure wood trees do work for the please the tree quest, I grew one in my backyard and it took a while but once it got to the highest level the quest completed.
An aside: I've turned Sylvan Grove and Doons Way into a wood tree preserve. It's a full time job keep them alive with Fertidust and I now they will all be gone in 30 minutes if I stop... but it's been fun for while it has lasted.
I think at least one of the problems is that some glitchens do not differentiate between 'harvest' and 'harvest/clear'. They see the word harvest and click away. And if they are noobs they dont noticed they killed it (maybe they think it will respawn?), or, either dont realize they can replant it or dont know how.
I know I killed a couple myself in the beginning-didnt even notice the menu was different. And I certainly did not realize Ur had an ecology when I first got here. I was just so glad to find a wood tree so I could finish my quest, that I harvested away, willy-nilly.
The wood tree is the only one that dies exactly that way. I don't understand the game strategy reasoning for this-maybe it is a Rook plot...
Interestingly enough, mature wood trees can have entirely different shapes. I have 5 fully-grown wood trees in my yard and only two look the same. Also, unlike other trees, a wood tree harvest is larger when it is healthier; a full grown tree yields 80 planks when harvesting, but the stumps only yield 40 or 50.
shexycorin: Wood trees are necessary for a few quests (at least one of which requires a fully healthy wood tree) which are nearly impossible when you can't find a wood tree anywhere. On top of that, planks can be used for cooking or making tools, and (in my opinion) it's a lot cooler to harvest planks from a regenerating wood tree than to kill and clear another species.
(I'm still hoping for a future era of home improvement that'll let us use planks, blocks, and bricks to build all sorts of stuff that typical real estate doesn't offer.)
I think the biggest issue with Wood Trees is they can be destroyed w/out poisoning them, all the other trees you have to get Botany to clear out (not that it's a really tough skill to get).
