for real Jewel. ~O.o~ Sorry to hear you're leaving Bruja but maybe you'll reconsider.
-_-
I'm quite sure we'll be able to get fibers off the new animals if they're necessary for making stuff. Otherwise we'd just have a very very tiny subset of the population controlling who's able to make furnitures and decorations and things. I really can't see Glitch setting it up like that, especially since the dust stick seems to be a really new idea just to compensate for an unforeseen bug. :: shrugs ::
I'm glad that players who lost really valuable stuff got compensated. I'm kind of sad I didn't lose anything, but on the other hand, I'd much rather have kept my GNG (which I did / do) than get a little one use stick. I <3 my GNG.
This is unbelievable! They say no good deed goes unpunished. It's a great way to ensure that TS doesn't bother to give out anything special ever again.
Honestly can't believe that people would spit the dummy over not getting what, in effect, is a gift.
As for elite club, well, are you suggesting that TS took items out of certain players' bags so they could award them a special item. No, it was just chance.
The game is in beta, these things happen. Nobody is entitled to anything at all. TS could just have said "too bad"
I feel sorry for them, they must wish they hadn't bothered.
No, I didn't get one. My stuff is always in such a mess I doubt I would notice if half of it went missing :D
Also, if everyone has everything then nothing is special. You can't always have everything in life, there will always be others with better, more, etc.
Congrats to all that got the stick...sorry you had to go through what you went through to earn this small token from TS. For those that are upset...sorry, you don't get that life isn't fair, that you were lucky to not have deal with what so many of these folks went through, that you still have ALL your things to include precious notes that had sentimental value...
Kudos to TS for offering a small concession to those that were affected! Don't cave to the small group of small minded folks that want everything handed to everyone. Nice gestures like this just makes me want to stick around and see what other compassionate things you might do! Sorry you are getting lambasted by idiots, just because people wanted to publicly thank you for the kind gesture. I hope this doesn't stop players for thanking you for doing the compassionate and smart thing...and I hope the morons don't stop you from doing the right thing by your players.
Cripes... so many sour grapes in one place. It's just like a whinery in here.
It's a STICK. If not getting one's enough to make you cancel your sub or whatever, so be it. Just know that you're cancelling your sub out of jealousy more than anything else.
The perceived injustice here is exactly that- perceived.
I want one. I want one because it sounds totally cool. I also maybe want it more because some people have it and I don't. I've been down this road many times before - I have a sibling. I got most of it out of my system long long ago (thanks, bro). Now that I'm all growed up I can still feel bummed that I don't have one, but it doesn't bother me that you do. I think it's nice. Almost, but not quite, as nice as it would be if I had one of my own ^_^
Perception is a curious thing. It appears there is just as much, if not more insulting/intimidating remarks directed at those supposedly 'whining'.
Personally, I think it's fantastic that TS made such a grand gesture for those affected but perhaps it is too much to expect that we are all afforded the same opportunity to obtain collectible/rare in game items from actually playing the game,*e.g. opening cubimal boxes, spinning wheels, etc - or for TS to consider other alternative gestures in the future. ( If an individual in the future experiences a similar loss - might they receive a rare item, too?) Or are we better off retreating into or remaining in a spiral of silence.
I happened to get a stick. I had freaked out a little bit when there were holes in my conga line of cubimals from my complete collection I had on my floor, which was a gigantic effort to obtain. I didn't freak out too much, because I trust TS and knew they would fix it. I can see others being much more angry about the bug, especially those who lost irreplaceable notes from dear friends that they thought they would keep forever (hmmm... maybe I should check to see if any of my treasured notes are missing...).
TS is just trying to apologize to those who potentially felt very negative feelings about the game as a result of this (and no, you didn't have to file a bug report or complain in the forums when you noticed something was missing, so it's good that TS gave the stick to everyone that encountered the bug regardless of whether they chose to be vocal about it or not). Most game companies wouldn't do this... most companies would just fix it so it wouldn't happen again, maybe announce that a bug was fixed, and move on (ignoring the cries of outrage from their players because who cares if they leave--they'll probably just get more).
If I didn't get the stick I would have felt some jealousy, just like I am jealous of those that have a yeti, those that used to have a game server from the great server crash of whenever the heck it was that I wasn't playing, and those that were gifted SB-1 blocks by staff for whatever reason that apparently didn't apply to me (I'll assume that SB-1 blocks dropped by an in-game action is a rumor until I hear more definitive proof of the contrary). But it stops there--I don't hate the game because of it and don't feel entitled to any of those things. I think it's GOOD that limited-edition items that only a few people have exist, and when you get one of those it will make you feel even more happy because of it. No one should end up with all of them, which is fine. Really, special items that a few people have is very common in online games--not out of the ordinary at all.
Also, the dust bunny is meant to be a social experience--it says right in the description that you unleash it to make those around you happy. It is meant to be used in a group, not hoarded by a single person, and meant to benefit everyone regardless of whether or not they have one. I think that's pretty cool.
@Christine - I think people are making far too much out of this. I mean, are there people complaining that they didn't get a Funpickle when they weren't in the first beta? That's pretty well the same principle- some people experienced a situation, and they were given a little something extra for their patience and understanding, as well as the inconvenience (which does apply to beta, believe me).
Now people have begun complaining that they weren't afforded the same opportunity because they didn't meet the criteria, or that they were missing stuff but didn't report it (and are still upset somehow), or that it's unfair, etc.
Well, if any of you were missing stuff and didn't report it- i.e., "make a lot of noise"- it wasn't a secret that the bug existed and that the way to deal with bugs is to submit a report; and right there in the thread was the revelation that "something" was gonna be done for those affected. So if you chose not to submit a report, that's on you. They're apparently passing them out to affected players regardless of reports, so "making noise" doesn't even apply to begin with.
If you didn't have anything go missing, I guess I dunno what the issue is- it was clearly for those affected by the bug. Case closed. Yeah, it sucks, isn't fair, etc, but it is what it is.
And, yeah, if you go into the forums talking about how you're gonna cancel your subscription, "it's not fair", "they shouldn't get one if I don't", etc, then you are in fact perceiving injustice where there is none. By definition.
For all the whining that goes on in this place, it's easy to forget that it's mostly adults here.
I'm sorry Djabril, but it is not the same as the Funpickle, in my opinion. Everyone who was here at the time, whether they were active or not, got the funky pickle. People here did NOT have an equal opportunity to get this new "special" item. And as far as knowing that the bug existed and not filing a bug report? Once a bug is known, people are normally advised that "it is a known bug" so they don't need to file a report. And I'm getting a little sick of people being called "whiner" for expressing dissatisfaction with anything in this game.
It's one thing to be dissatisfied. It's another to get jealous over not having the new STICK. It's sad. It's very little different from a kid finding a stick in the park and picking it up while another sits by a tree and pouts rather than continuing to have fun-"HE got the stick, and I wanted it and it's not faaaaiiiirrrrrr." It is, in fact, whining.
I too find it sad I have not gotten this special item. I felt that all of us that have had to endure going back to beta should at least receive something special for this. I have pretty much played since it was launched live and now continue through the relaunch of beta. I have yet to receive a philosopher doll. Would love to have a funpickle, GNG, or even a Yeti.. however I realize I was not around for those items and accept that those are some items I will never see. However, I feel it is rather fair for us that are here now to be getting some of the special items as we all are going through relaunch of beta.
I myself had some glitches with the new housing test along with hating the choices I was given to work with. I have not complained however, I just quit playing with test housing since I am very disappointed in it. I thought the furniture that was given to me was very ugly and was not given more choices of colors and such, It was just the washed out, rough clapboard white furniture. BORINNNNNNNNNNG. Who wants rough clapboard crap? I did not enjoy or have fun with the test at all and very disappointed.
Will I yell and scream and throw a tantrum over this? No. Am I disappointed? Yes.
There may be a few players who are pouting and sulking, but the majority of comments from those who are complaining, are of the "I don't like that this was done and here's why I feel that way" variety. And in response, most (not all) have told us that we should "grow up," "stop complaining," "get over it, and "stop whining." This is not constructive, nor is it grown up behavior.
Edited to add: I also know many players, myself included who have experienced bugs, some of them very frustrating. I didn't expect to receive a present for having had a bug, but why was it necessary to compensate THESE people for THIS bug, but not THOSE people for THAT bug? I am not screaming elitism. I don't think it was anything of the sort. Still, one has to wonder why this bug was so special.
Casombra, that sounds like a huge bug if you can't access any upgrade options. File a bug report and I bet you'll have fine furniture quick like a bunny.
Nawww thanks for the suggestion however Aleph Zero. I just did not get a cheap thrill over the new housing. Miss having storage and such. I am not all that thrilled over this new housing at all. Not enough room for me. Can't garden or anything. I am too used to my 50k house. I didn't like the shelves and table stuff. I feel it makes the house look even more junked up. I like storage where I can put bag behind a closed door and not look at all that I horde lol.
Not looking forward to the new housing at all. I feel it will be a huge step down rather than a step up when it is incorporated to be honest. So testing it is not interesting to me at all. Instead I go off and do stuff that does interest me.
That sounds as if you are accusing me, in the public forums, of sending snarky notes. I do not. If I have had disagreements with people, I do sometimes choose to address them privately so as not to embarass the other person. But, whatever. You go right on calling everyone who is disappointed "whiners."
Djabrill - I get what you're saying. It's frustrating at times - encountering negative comments/opinions here in the forum but really the same could be said for making them.
Not sure whom or how many have been upset about not getting a pickle or what-have-you- just as I'm not sure how vocal the player base is.
In any case, where feelings are concerned, things can get a bit messy and conflicted. I'm not so sure there is a right or wrong (If only logic grew on trees) and it's probably a case of damned if you do/damned if you don't for TS. But like many have pointed out life's not fair.
Casombra... you do realize that this housing update was a teeny tiny start to it? That there is a ton more coming? This update was not about the exterior of the house at all, just the interior and testing the way it functions. I do understand not being interested in the testing of it, but I don't think it was a bad hint of what's to come either.
The houses will be able to be made larger (probably larger than your 50k house), there are plans for different types of storage that you can hide your bags in, the land will be able to be expanded... where you can have as much or as little as you want of the two types of gardens.
It is going to be an amazing step up from the locked in size and decor of the houses we have.
Casombra, all the things you are complaining about the new housing are temporary--they are just testing out a very small percentage of what they have in store for us right now. You will have storage and the ability to expand your land and home in the near future. Being a beta tester means you have to test small things out in increments while you wait for the entire, larger whole to be completed sometime down the road. Have patience.
Oh I am pretty patient. Just did not get a thrill out of the housing test as some did. I think maybe I was turned off over what was offered to decorate with, which was pretty damn ugly lol. I am still skeptical over what is to come though. If it requires too much thinking or too much artistic talent then I am not really going to enjoy it much. I am not at all artistic.
Well, if you didn't see the other stuff, you might want to at least try what Aelph Zero said, just to reassure yourself that the stuff won't all be that ugly. Have you looked at the thread where people have shown off their decor? You should have all those furniture options; maybe looking at that would at least be enough to reassure you about the 'ugly' options (though maybe you won't like any of them! I don't know! Trying to be positive!). :) And to make sure there's not a bug.
I don't think it will require too much thinking or too much artistry; I think it'll have a fair amount for both kinds of people. Pretty straightforward for those that just want to slap paint on the walls and a few nice looking chairs around, and enough versatility that the more artistic people will have fun trying weird things out.
I certainly wouldn't worry about not being able to make something that resembles the 50k that you have now, at least in size and amenities.
I think Stoot said that most of the decorative items available in the old housing will also be available for the new housing, so if you like your 50k house you can get your new one close to that. Also, just like with clothing, I'm sure they will constantly be releasing new items, so eventually you will find something you like.
When we moved to Oklahoma, we narrowed our house search down to two houses. We resorted to flipping a coin.
Eventually, a monster tornado came along, killing 48 people and doing $1.1 billion in damage. The house we purchased ("tails") got sprinkled with insulation, photographs, old cancelled checks, and the like--but escaped damage. The house we did not purchase looked like a giant "Will it blend?" experiment. 2 people died in that house, and one small child was orphaned. Less than a mile separated the two houses, and it was all down to a coin toss. Waaah--we had to pick up a little bit of trash.
But now it looks as if things have evened out. My family and I survived the May 3 '99 twister, but now--I did not get a Dusty Stick! What am I to do???
A large number of homes in OK have "storm cellars", a concrete bunker underground where people go when tornadoes are sighted. I wouldn't buy a house there without one, unless the lot next to me had one.
The town where my dad grew up was wiped out completely when he was in high school. You just learn to live with the possibility of the next one bearing down directly on your spot.
It is true. Disasters happen everywhere and the faraway things that you think happen to other people can also happen to your own community. That particular tornado was the strongest ever at the time, though I think there have been rivals to its strength lately.
It's true that many houses here have storm cellars. We made a major mistake buying a house that didn't have one, though people we know who do have them say they are nightmares to maintain. Central Oklahoma isn't friendly to below-ground construction of any kind. Sarkey's Energy Center at the University of Oklahoma is a good example of how much trouble a basement can be here. It floods if the local meteorologists just THINK about precip.
I don't mean to change the topic on this thread but I do hope people will take to heart that the STUFF we have in this game has no real value. You can't even walk "across the street" to another game site and use it there! The fun of the game and the care we should be showing to each other does matter, and we can take that with us wherever we go.
I remember the first time I visit relatives in Nebraska (sp). It was tornado season, and everywhere we went, I'd ask, "Ok, it there was a tornado RIGHT NOW, where would we go". My relatives would always say "By the window to watch". They found me very amusing. But I'm on the west coast. Earthquakes I know. Tornados not so much. And happy for it to be that way.
Hey folks, thanks for sharing feedback about the dusty stick, no matter what the point of view. (And as always, we like to have the conversation civil- it usually is, but we do know there was some disagreement that got pretty heated. Just a request to not get angry at each other here, but do feel free to blame me for anything. :) There was no social experiment here, no nefarious plot, just an attempt to make something positive of an event we took pretty seriously. I'll take this point here from an earlier post-
"Still, one has to wonder why this bug was so special."
Most bugs are merely annoying, and we try to squish as many of them as to make the game smooth to play. It's not possible to iron *all* bugs out, but most of them can at least be managed for the most part. But this one caused folks to have content they collected, purchased, traded for, were gifted, found, or of course- worked for- disappear. That's a Bad Thing. We were able to get most folks who were affected back in shape, but as you already know, we have others who we couldn't. (We are still, and expect to be working with players on that for longer.) The loss of items from the game is serious. Not just items, but things people wrote to others, like poems on notes, and now the notes are blank as given examples. This wasn't your garden variety bug, for players affected, or us. We're sorry some think it was some big joke played by us. It most certainly was not. As you know we have made a handful of limited creation items over the past couple of years for various events, and I can't say we won't again. We certainly don't wish to have the sort of event where people lost stuff again, I can say that for certain.
I've never been in a tornado, and I certainly would not want to be in one. I have to admit in the times I have spent in the midwest US watching summer storms, all I had on my mind was to stare at the lightning clouds as they made their way towards us. (I never went down in the cellar for them. :) I was present for the 1989 earthquake in the San Francisco Bay Area though. Sounded like a bomb went off under the house, and my cats went nuts dodging falling furniture. I'll never forget that day.
Casombra Amberrose, yes, if you want us to look, please do file a bug report when you are in decorate mode in the house and fully explain what menu choices are available to you in the report. No idea why you would not see an upgrade menu item on one of the pieces of furniture or decorations, but we would like to know.
Geez, I've been away and just discovered 17 bags in my storage cupboard are all empty. Trying to think of all the stuff I had in them gives me a brain cramp. I wish I had video taped my stuff or at least took a picture of the pile of things. Oh well, it was a lot worse in FS were I would lose stuff from my inventory at least 3 or 4 times a week. All Big Fish would do is say "too bad" and some items I actually paid real money for so I appreciate Tiny Speck in trying to replace my items that have been lost. As far as a stick with fiber that can be used once for (?) that people are paying milllions of currants for is just plain silly. This too will pass like cabbage patch dolls or Beanie Babies and be worth even less. Seems like some people forget this is just a virtual game and you can't really feel or touch any items in this game. Sillly Glitches
Kev- Just wondering why when alot of people lose items they get special compensation for it, but if one individual losses items they are lucky to get those items back at all? Somewhat sour grapes, but I dont see how some people are granted an exclusive item and others arent. Are their loses deemed more important because it was due to the housing shift or just because there were so many affected?
I just noticed that of the 5 'notes' that are in my house cabinet, only 3 of them are now readable and the other 2 have gone blank. Weird that only 2 were affected...wonder what made them the victims.
@TheBoyWhoCriedRook - I would guess that the number of people affected probably has something to do with it. And about the "if one individual losses items they are lucky to get those items back at all"....are you speaking from experience with Glitch or somewhere else? Just wondering because my experience with Glitch wouldn't agree with that statement. Now somewhere else is another story...
TS screw up, and that somehow justifies some players being given a rare item that's sold for millions?
I do think that they should do everything they could to return people their stuff, but returning peoples stuff and giving them a unique item? (when its a game with very few rare items?) this seems a bit disproportionate (and extremely unfair to the rest of their players).
I know some people are just going to say that "life's not fair", and that's certainly true, but on the other hand most games are fair (or at least, all the good ones that people actually want to play are).
TheBoyWhoCriedRook wrote: but if one individual losses items they are lucky to get those items back at all?
I lost an item, (my hoe broke, but instead of appearing as broken in my inventory it disappeared, at the time I was very low level and it was a big deal and it was replaced by staff immediately I reported it). I know two other Glitchen who had items vanish but had them replaced. And I know one Glitch who through their own stupidity, not a bug, lost their pickle (they donated it accidentally) but had it replaced by TS
Lukie: TS screw up, and that somehow justifies some players being given a rare item that's sold for millions?
First of all, the fact that a certain item is being offered at auctions for a certain price does not mean that this price will actually be paid. Everybody who sells potatoes or herbs knows that you don't always sell what you offer.
Second, if some people are ready to pay millions of currants for a certain item, you cannot blame TS. While I can at least partly understand why some people would pay big sums to complete their collections of music boxes/cubimals/puppets/whatever, I still fail to understand why anybody would want to pay lots of money for an item that is neither part of a collection, nor having any special value. Anyway, if somebody is really willing to pay 2 million currants for a dust stick, it probably means that this player has 3 or 4 million currants on his account and does not know what to do with the money anyway.
Last, as we have all seen during the herb-rush, those prices tend to drop eventually anyway. In a few weeks, there will be many more players who drop out of the game and decide to give away their special items first, or others who get bored with their items and sell them. (Funnily enough, the fact that some of the people who did NOT recieve any dust stick make such a big fuss about it only fuels the price and value of that thing.)
