Amount of fruit on trees

When I harvested some fruit, it cost me 5points I think, and I got 6 fruit each worth one.  It does not seem like a good ratio, there is no way to harvest from a few trees and build up even 30-40 points to continue.  You harvest-eat-harvest-eat and make no progress whatsoever.  If it was 2 points to harvest and maybe 8 fruit that would be better - just a thought.

  • Riscy,
You shouldn't be eating fruit to obtain energy. The best method early on is meat (or maybe I was doing it the hard way). And you get skills that up your harvest as well later on.

  • Fruits, and cherries in particular, have next-to-no value as a staple food.  They exist largely to be converted by a Fruit Changer and then made into mood-boosting drinks via a Blender or Cocktail Shaker.

The most efficient early-game staple food is meat, as Jhennauchan explained.  Straight from the piggie.  At 10 energy per meat, it's the most energy-efficient food you can get without additional processing, and Animal Kinship only makes it even more efficient by giving you multiple meats with every nibble (up to 48[!] at once at maximum AK - and keep in mind, meat stacks at 50 per inventory slot!).

Right now, the game's energy system isn't terribly well balanced, and most early-game foods are inefficient if made totally from scratch, especially by characters with few skills.  I posted a thread on the topic a while back, analyzing the humble Sammich as an example.  You really need to improve skills like Gardening and Animal Kinship to make cooking skills worthwhile.

  • Ok, cheers for the replies - I have been doing the meat, and found the fruits next to useless.  As a quick fix, with no piggies around it helped to keep me alive, but nothing else.  Will know that for next time - ta

I am on Animal Kinship V now I think - only 2 more to go, so that might help when I get back in.
