I started my account last week (Oct. 27th) so I am guessing I am one of the few who have experienced the newer tutorial and Greet option.
It's all kind of a blur now: I had been released into the world and had just milked one of the butterflies, running and jumping trying to find it again to milk it, when the Magic Rock asked me if I wanted to be greeted. WELL, NO! I wanted my milk. If I accepted its offer, would it whisk me away somewhere new AGAIN after I just spent a chunk of my pitiful energy level massaging?
I really do think the option came within 5 minutes of release into the larger area (maybe it was still in the tutorial land, but everything was overwhelmingly new and sparkly, so I can't recall) -- and I declined, thinking I could ask the Magic Rock to summon a Greeter later at my leisure and especially after I had some time and experience to actually formulate questions.
Around Level 5, I started getting confused and wishing I had someone to ask a few questions of ... and my experience after a week of running into other level 5s is that really is the time where you've got the basics down but someone hands you guano and splits before you can ask them why you need bat droppings.
I think preferably the offer for greeting should be delayed longer until a player has her feet under her and a grip on all of those quests popping up every few minutes -- I'm not sure what triggers greeting: x minutes spent online? -- but definitely the offer should be repeated again at level 4 or 5 or with an offer to repeat for those experienced players to decline if they're creating multiple accounts.
And thank you, phelps.mike, for prodding me to suggest this.
