DNAja Vu! Finding your DNA Clusters

Just to let y'all know: the wiki page for the DNA Clusters has been made, and lists the known locations where DNA Clusters have been found. But! We know there are probably a *lot* more locations! So, since we're a community-run wiki, we'd love your help filling the page up.

But, we know that not all Glitches like to have spoilers listed on a page when they open it up.

Finding your DNA yourself is the fun part, too! But then again... there are 800+ locations in Ur...  and it's no fun strolling through each one over again to find a single gene. So, we've blogged about the achievement too, which hides the spoilers by default (click 'Show Locations' next to each region to show the known locations).

I'll be updating the blog post as more locations are added to the wiki page. Without further ado, here's the shortlink to the 'DNAja Vu - Find your DNA Clusters' Glitch Strategy blog post. Hope it helps! http://bit.ly/GlitchDNA

(Feel free to shout out confirmed street names below, too)

  • Found my first DNA!  Apparently I have residuals in Aranna - Kerivepa Vili.  :)

Far right on a ledge.  The "wooo'ing" sound when I entered the area to let me know I had DNA here was most helpful.

    1.  Aranna - Kerivepa Vili - far right ledge
    2.  Groddle Heights - Clarbeare Voya - far left ledge, needed spinach

  • Personally I prefer some assistance to blinding wandering 700ish streets looking for something. Thank you! :D

  • I added a key comment to the blog post, but to sum: this doesn't work like the ghost quest. Instead the flames spawn in dozens of locations in each region and are simply first-come first-served.

That 8 of mine were all within about 20 streets, 1 more in the street next to where I then teleported to, and 2 more right near where I teleported to next, all within an hour or so, indicates that I was either unbelievably lucky that my theoretically pre-assigned locations were all where I just happened to be or, much more likely, they just appear in tons of spots and because I was wandering late at night they just hadn't been taken yet.

  • They are not first-come first-served.  They're just like the ghost quest in that you can only see your own and they're predetermined.  You were lucky.

  • Oh thank you.....walking through ....trolling through streets again is not on my main list of priorities but then I don't like missing out on stuff either - so again....thank you :-)

  • I love rambling around looking for them!  I have found 7 so far and I have screen captured them.  i did not realize until the 4th one that there was one for each Giant (Duh!).  I am keeping a list of locations and Giants now.  I must say that most have been on adjacent streets, 2 or 3 streets in a row for me.

  • +Kaavin Kit in Bortola and +Dunlin Roble in Besara.
Mine all or almost all a bit tricky to reach; DNA-hunters should pack spinach!

It would probably help people to put a recording of the hum on the blog or wiki so they know what they're listening for.  It helps a bit to turn the music volume down and the effects volume up, as the DNA hum is relatively quiet and is controlled by effects volume.  (Some folks in chat said they couldn't hear it at all-maybe flash bugs?)

  • Once you've found DNA somewhere, is there a way to find out again where you stumbled across it, if you forgot to make note of it?  (Maybe after you've found all 11?)

  • Wooah! Thanks for the new locations streaming in - I've just added another 22 streets to the list! :D

How would people like it if I turned the list in to a PDF table print out so you can tick the places you've been as you visit them?

  • Alright, ghost notes were somewhat annoying but its an annoying quest and there arent so very many locations afterall.
BUT there's 3 notes about DNA in "The Drop"! 800 possible locations all over UR?? Will we see 800 notes scattered around now? On top of the notes already left around for this or that?
Please stop it with the notes! (im looking at you SenorCheaposGato! and whoever else is doing it) I had bags full but as soon as I can I will start collecting them and donating them.
There is a perfectly audible and creepy warning music when you have a DNA clue on the street.

  • Once I turned on the sound and started listening, I ended up finding my 11 DNAja Vu spots in just a couple days.  I forgot to write down where I was when I saw the first one, though: is there any way for me to reconstruct it after the fact?  (I'm guessing not, and it's not really important in any way, unless one has compulsive tendencies. *cough*)

    1. Friendly  (?)
    2. Pot (Bulaa Clacks, Tamila)
    3. Mab (Vuos Bosca, Bortola)
    4. Spriggan (Akki Blocks, Kajuu)
    5. Zille (Dhab Habit, Salatu)
    6. Humbaba (Dunlin Roble, Besara)
    7. Tii (Dalsan Detach, Chakra Phool)
    8. Alph (Bolsean Ambitions, Alakol)
    9. Grendaline (Taftan Raves, Alakol)
    10. Cosma (Jethimadh Herb Gardens, Jethimadh)
    11. Lem (Nightshade Woods, Groddle Meadow)

  • Thanks for the post Hburger and all the commenters.... I could not for the life of me figure out what that strange noise was that I was hearing until I came upon this page.

I found a DNAja in Kaavin Kit - on the highest ledge (of rock) to the right. If you don't have spinach, I found it easiest to reach this spot by "climbing" the tree/limbs

  • I really wish this wasn't done with a sound. I have no interest in playing with the game sound on, like anything else I play iTunes provides all the sound I need. I have yet to find a single cluster despite a whole lot of walking in recent days :(
Posted 12 months ago by Douro Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Douro, same here. I usually listen to my own music, not the game sounds...and have yet to find any DNA at all...
Posted 12 months ago by Alyx Sands Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Echoing this.

I rarely play games with sound on, as I am listening to the wife and kids or, if I get happy time for myself, music.

I'd love a little icon next to the rock or something.

  • I don't hear the sound, for some reason, even though I have the music turned way down and the sound effects turned way up.   Found two spots, just on the basis of observation, so I guess I'll just keep on doing it that way.

    5 Clam Calumny
    6 Monas Mopane
    7 Willis Brone

  • Are we sure they are in a fixed number of locations?  I suspect they operate differently from the ghosts and there is a chance of them appearing each time you enter a street you've not yet visited.

I say this because I always found them on streets I visited for the first time, which seems unlikely as I'd already visited at least half the streets in Ur.  Maybe that was just coincidence, but I'd visited at least half the streets of Ur before they were introduced and found them while completing the exploration badges for regions.

  • I am a completist junkie so I have visited every street and most multiple times, and I found all my DNA clusters within a relatively short period of time without trying.  Definitely NOT limited to 11 spots Ur-wide, nor limited to streets you haven't visited.  I found some close to home and some far away, some on streets I regularly frequent and some more out-of-the-way.  Visit a few streets per region and you'll probably get all your DNA.

  • Has it been documented by TS that locations aren't everywhere? If there are reports that people have found DNA on streets they have visited before, then isnt it more presumable to think that they are random occurrences that generate once you enter a street? And if that is true, then isnt this entire list .. unnecessary?

Not to be aggressive in any way, just perhaps devil's advocate! :o but completely able to be lobbied
Posted 11 months ago by Yves Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Yves your hypothesis sounds reasonable to me, in light of the evidence we have.  It's also easier to implement than having a fixed set of streets.  (Each time a player enters a street, he has a small chance of finding one of the unfound giant DNA nodes.)

I guess the real test would be whether or not everyone finds a DNA node in the same exact part of the same street, or if they are in random locations.  The former would suggest manual placement, while the latter would suggest random generation.  FWIW, most of the DNA locations look manually placed to me, but it's hard to be sure.

  • We know our explanation is correct at the time of writing: working the same way as the ghosts, but on a larger scale. I suppose it's possible that TS have changed it since it was released as a quest 40 days ago, but I see that as extremely unlikely...
Posted 11 months ago by Hburger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Hburger Yeah, I doubt they would have changed it.  You "know" that they're a fixed set of streets because everyone finds them in the same exact spot of the same street I assume?
Posted 11 months ago by Janitch Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Why is it that because they are found on the same spot on the street that the streets are fixed? It seems very easy to have placed the graphic static on every street, without needed them to only be on certain streets??

ANYWAYS - I did have great luck using the streets posted on the Notice the Unnoticeable page (though there are many less streets listed for those occurrences) so.....

    continue~
