Speed Learning

So, I have seen several forums about how donating works, but I am still quite confused.  I do not have the internet in my apartment until next week, so I have been checking forums from a cell phone and cannot really search through all the old forums to see if any answer my questions.  If any exist, please post a link to it for me!

How does speed learning work?  I understand you can get a skill to 50% of its time and nothing more than that.  However, I think there may have been some bugs surrounding this or there is something I am confused about.

a)  Kevbob mentioned that you can't use Pungent Sunrise or Yellow Crumb buffs (which speed up learning) after you have reached 50% time.  I have used Pungent Sunrise before and it has worked after I was at 50%.  So, was that a bug when that happened, or has it changed?  Also, if you really CAN'T  use either buff after you have learning sped up to 50% then there should be some sort of warning or something so that you don't drink a bunch of drinks or munch a bunch of herbs trying to get skill times down without any effect.

b)  It says when you pause a skill that you lose speed learning.  But I have paused and restarted skills and have not lost my speed learning.  What's more, I have paused a skill with partial speed learning (we will just say 25% cause numbers make more sense), then restarted the skilll and was able to donate to get up to 50%.  Is that a bug?  If not, what is the "punishment" for pausing a skill?

If we could get some dev input, I would really appreciate it.  The whole thing can be quite confusing, and I would like to be as efficient as possible when the game launches so I can learn some of my favorite skills faster!

  • I am confused on these a bit.
    a) I think you can use Pungent Sunrise and it says you have the buff, but it doesn't actually have any effect.
    b) This confuses me too. I THINK what they mean, is that the new skill doesn't get the speed learning... but it is still on the 'paused' skill.

  • But I have gotten speed learning on the new skill too!?

  • I thought Pungent Sunrise temporarily sped up learning but only by a few minutes? Virtually no effect for later skills, lol.

As for the paused learning, from what I've understood, whatever time you have left is still the time you have to learn the skill BUT if you switch back to that skill you won't be able to speed that skill's learning time up any further. I know that sounds confusing and doesn't really make sense but... that's what I've heard.

  • I have paused a skill started a new one and have been able to speed it up to the 50% and then restarted the old skill which is still at the 50% speed.  I have done this with 3 skills paused and started a really long skill right before game ends.  When game restarts whatever is left of the long skill donated it down to the 50% of learning time left, paused it and finished of the other skills with 5 minutes left.  Then returned to the longer skill and when it is down to 5 minutes finish them all off at once.  I don't know if this is a really great stratagy but the length of learning other new skills seems to not go up in time so fast.

  • Cerulean:  that's what I've heard too, but I've paused skills, then restarted, then still been able to shorten learning time.  Unless that's a bug, that's not how it works

  • I think whenever you use say, a pungent sunrise or donation points, it automatically deducts the time that it says it will no matter if you change later or not. So if you used 500 shrine points and it subtracted an hour, it won't matter if you switch because it did what it was supposed to do at the start.

(I'm not sure if that's 100% correct, but from my experience, that's how it happened.)

  • In my experience, (two tests ago), once the rock said I was learning as fast as I could, I could not donate any more, even if I switched skills. Drinking Pungent Sunrises did nothing... no reduction in learning time, no buff. Claiming time quoins still reduced the time remaining, though. But that was two tests ago... Who knows what's changed since I got all the skills?
