user created achievement badges

some people want more achievements.

some people want more quests.

already there are notes left places with user created quests, and i think it would be really fun to be able to create badges to give to glitches that complete user-created quests.

i envision something like this: i decide i want to create a quest where you have to get into someone else's house and leave them a present, say a stack of something or a smelter or what-have you...

i make a "leaves gifts in someone else's house badge" and submit it to a game queue and once it's in there, any player who finds out about it (or maybe doesn't) and goes and does it gets the badge.

a mechanism like that could be REALLY fun. i do not know how hard it would be to implement, but my  department has never been implementaton. my department has always been thinking up wacky ideas.

  • can't *WAIT* for the first person to run around splanking everyone multiple times, saying it's for an achievement.

  • there's already a splanking achievement.

and that horrible garlic breath quest.

but i was kinda thinking that the quest might go through some sort of review process. you know, to weed out the public nuisance ones.

  • I like the idea :) Maybe that review process is player based? Would we be able to create the badges or is that something the devs would do to keep the same look. Or maybe a badge-creation program with premade images of all Glitch items that you can drag around in a circle the size of the badges? Just stream of thought haha.

  • Is there a splanking achievement!? I didn't know. I take it back, then ;)

  • +1 for this idea!

I like the review idea from Gabi, but just like someone else noted about a similar idea of mine: it should not result in a popularity contest or constant begging for votes. I'm thinking of anonymous voting, like Glitch Mash where the names of the creators aren't displayed.

And it would be fun if you could assign a reward to your achievement, with a maximum amount of points. Say the max is 20 points, the reward could be 10 mood and 10 xp or 20 energy.

Perhaps. like Gowalla Trips, user-created achievements could be visible only to friends of the creator? Would lessen the need for a review process.
