Lockable doors

This idea is in regard to the constant questions regarding what can be or should be locked down inside a house.   I think much of this debate could be solved simply with doors that lock such that only the owner / owner+keyholders can open them.  This would allow you to partition a multi-room house into private / semi-private / public areas.   In turn, this allows you to lock things into rooms that casual visitors can't access.   Rather than having to fiddle with the permissions attributes of dozens of individual objects, just implement doors than lock and the problem is solved..

  • +eleventy, WalruZ. This makes a lot of sense. A simple, elegant solution to the issue of permissions.

  • I like this idea, but without addition supporting changes house visitors may still be able to click-drag items from a "locked" room either across an ajoining wall or floor/ceiling... and I'm guessing that people would scream a LOT if that happened.

  • Now that this idea is in my head...

What if we could place lockable doors that lead to an entirely different house area... maybe similar to the way that doors lead to homes in the existing appartment buildings.

The only issues that come to mind right off are potentially more complicated key management (if key access were allowed at all for such doors), a lack of lack of external visualization of any expansion done behind such doors, and a potentially large increase in the number of "home" locations that the servers would need to support.
