What skills did you ACTUALLY learn?

My skill order wasn't quite what I thought it would be. Here's what I did. What did everyone else do?

01. AK1 -- so I could eat
02. AK2
03. M1 -- so I could mine
04. T1 -- so I could fix my pick
05. M2
06. LGT1 -- working up to G1 because tree harvests were pissing me off
07. SA1
08. SA2
---- BL1
---- BL2
09. G1 -- really useful. harvest went from 3 to 2x6
10. AK3
---- BL3
11. M3
12. AK4
13. M4 -- started this before the end of test because it was a long skill

  • I got:

    Light Green Thumb I
    E-Z Cooking I
    Blending I
    Cocktail Crafting I
    Mining I, II, and III
    Better Learning I
    Tinkering I
And I have 4 days, 15 hours, and 17 minutes on Mining IV.

Very pleased with what I got done this test. :D

  • My plan went totally awry too, there were so many things I forgot I couldn't do without a skill!
    What I actually got done:

    Animal Kinship I, II
    Soil Appreciation I, II
    Gardening I
    Light Green Thumb I, II
    Fruit Changing
    Spice Milling
    EZ Cooking I
    Cheffery I, II
Mining I, II and working on 3 for the break
    Meditative Arts I
    Better Learning I, II
    Teleportation I, II, III
    Tinkering I

  • Let's see...

    AK I, II and III
    Soil Appreciation I
LGT I and II (for the random rewards)
    EZ Cooking I
    Blending I
    Element Handling
    Mining I and II
    Refining I
Better Learning I, II and III (yay!)
Bureaucratic Arts I (for the permits)
    Tinkering I

I'm doing Better Learning IV right now. Not bad at all.

  • (It was the having to spend an emblem to get to Mining or Better Learning III that horked me up.  I had less time to actually play than I hoped and you have to get enough stuff to donate or $$ to buy stuff to donate to get the emblems, so no just setting it on learn autopilot to get the higher level skills.)

  • @magic panda -- Mine ended up looking a lot like yours. Except I stuck teleportation 1 in there, because I liked having a teleport point in my house early on, and bureaucratic arts 1 to get my papers and buy my house. I took my time getting my emblem of zille after my emblem of lem, though, so I only have mining 2. I'm learning better learning 4 over the break.

  • Other notes: It was excruciating to get energy (pet + nibble = 8 energy at level 1, I think, for a single lousy piece of meat!) and repairing my pick was a lot harder than I remembered.

  • I'll have 31 skills once Mining 3 finished up in another 8 hours or so... I hope.  :-D

Before the reset, I didn't quite understand the whole "learning" thing, or that I should keep the rock going with it for many levels and I went to Hell a few more times than I would have liked from starving.  This time, I kept the rock's nose to the grindstone and haven't been to Hell yet.  :-)

  • @Haiku: I plan on getting teleportation soon as well. Walking around everywhere is a drag.

As for papers, I decided to buy my papers instead of getting them myself, so that I had one less skill to count toward the limit (of 20 or whatever) before learning times start going up.

I started off with a plan, but ended up doing anything but cooking or mining which is kind of what I wanted, so it works for me. I was just happy to be back to harvesting 12 at a time again, was painful before that lol
I got all my emblems yesterday, and spent them all, so I'm ready to go with whatever I decide when test comes back up. Again I'll avoid mining and cooking 'till everything else is done. I find both of those activities kind of boring really, so I'll wait 'till I'm done with the fun stuff :D

I set BL 4 near the end of the test. I noticed that the description of BL 4 says all future skills so I'm glad I didn't start/stop any other ones.

The lack of butterflies threw me a curve. Making cheese became more of a challenge. And then I realized I couldn't incubate eggs because I had veered off  AK 4 (oh... shiny.......!) and therefore AH. Oh well. Overall, I like what I accomplished this test. • 14 Skills, using the "keep it low so they don't go slow" strategy

    Mining 1, 2, 3 [4 is currently in progress]

    Teleportation 1, 2
    Tinkering 1, 2
    Meditative Arts 1
    Bureaucratic Arts 1
    Soil Appreciation 1
    Light Green Thumb 1

the plan for next test is Better Learning 4 and Teleportation 3/4 while setting up Better Learning 5 for the next break in testing.

i've avoided taking "level 1 everything" since that is going to inflate BL5, TP5 and Tnk5 later on, possibly to the point where i won't be able to learn them between tests.

  • 32 skills learned with one more due to finish tomorrow... (It helps to be a chronic insomniac, because I wake up several times at night and can check/change my skills as needed even if I'm too zonked to actually play.)  These aren't in order, as I can't remember that.  I know I started with AK1, EZ Cooking 1, LGT1, then Better Learning.

    Animal Kinship 1, 2, 3
    Herdkeeping
    Soil Appreciation 1, 2
Gardening 1, 2 (plus spent 1st emblem of Mab to open G3 for next time)
    Light Green Thumb 1, 2
Fruit Changing, Spice Milling, Bubble Tuning (not getting Gasmog. yet)
    EZ Cooking 1
    Grilling 1
    Saucery 1
Blending 1, 2 (to be able to unlock Earthshakers w/ the 3rd Saucery achievement)
Chefery 1, 2, 3 (to unlock Master Chef 1 for next time)
Mining 1, 2 (I don’t mine much.  This is just for supplemental donation stuffs and fast cash.)
Meditative Arts 1, 2 (plus spent 1st emblem of Cosma to open MA3 for next time)
Better Learning 1, 2, 3 (spent that 1st emblem of Lem for BL3 and am currently learning BL4)
    Bureaucratic Arts 1
    Teleport 1
    Tinkering 1, 2

I can finally make some worthwhile food and drinks, and I have 3 piggies in my little treehouse yard now.  Next, I want to get through AK4 to learn Animal Husbandry asap, so I can hatch some Butterflies there.  The milk must flow!  Then I'll grab BL5, Gardening 3, more down the MA line, and then see where things flow from there.

  • 32 skills with AK4 to be done in a few hours. It looks like I have all the same skills that Clara Net has, so I'll copy and change some:

    Animal Kinship 1, 2, 3
    Soil Appreciation 1, 2, 3
    Gardening 1, 2
    Light Green Thumb 1, 2
    Croppery 1
    Fruit Changing
    Spice Milling
    Bubble Tuning
    Gasmorgrification
    EZ Cooking 1. 2
    Grilling 1
    Saucery 1
    Blending 1
    Cheffery 1
    Element Handling
    Alchemy1

    Refining 1
    Mining 1, 2
    Meditative Arts 1
    Better Learning 1, 2
    Bureaucratic Arts 1
    Teleport 1
    Tinkering 1, 2

I went with a wider range of skills this time around, to make it less boring for me and so I wouldn't get stuck with a quest where I'd need to learn a skill to complete it. It also forces me to think about what I make so I can sell it, but I'm also at 2K currants, so clearly that's not working. I don't think I used a favor to speed up any learning, but I'm also nowhere near getting any emblems, so that kind of sucks, too.

    Cocktail Crafting 1
    Better Learning 1, 2
    Bureaucratic Arts 1
    Tinkering 1-3
Animal Husbandry (It should be done in an hour or so.)

My logic was to start mining as soon as possible so I could earn more currants to buy a decent house. Sadly I haven't earned any emblems yet so I'm stuck with some skills until I get them. However, now that I have a house I can donate the pricer items to the Giants instead of selling them.

  • I got 20 done this round (and that's with an internet outage today :/ )

    Animal Kinship 1-5
    Animal Husbandry
    Soil Appreciation 1-3
    Light Green Thumb 1, 2
    EZ Cooking 1
    Cheffery 1
    Blending 1
    Element Handling
    Mining 1
    Better Learning 1
    Tinkering 1
Meditative Arts 1 (with 2 to finish soon)

I knew I wanted to focus on the AKs to at least get to where I didn't need butterfly lotion (of course, with the lack of butterflies this wasn't a huge problem) and for the bonuses. I just started on the soil ones for the same reason. Cooking & MA were to keep from dying. Tinkering so I could fix things. Mining so I could make a little extra $$$.

  • Let me see... I chose my skills by the trees which had the skills with the longest time (which is Mining IV) because I wanted to get them out of the way first so they didn't get longer. My other priority was getting my 15k house (which I did) so I needed things to support the mining (Tinkering). And of course I wanted the Better Learning skills as soon as possible.

I think it went something like this? (I know the first two were those)

    1. Mining I
    2. Better Learning I
    3. Tinkering I
    4. Better Learning II
    5. Mining II
    6. Bureaucratic Arts I
    7. Better Learning III
    8. Meditative Arts I
    9. Tinkering II
    10. Teleportation I

And I'm 3 hours off Better Learning IV (used the BL and Mining emblems).

I actually stopped grabbing meat from piggies shortly after I noticed that with petting and nibbling energy costs I wasn't gaining much at all from it (without AK, it was something like 2 or 3 energy) so I was better off buying food or chomping eggs.

    4. Animal Kinship III
    5. Better Learning I
    6. Light Green Thumb II

    8. Animal Kinship IV
    9. Better Learning II
    10. Mining II
    11. Meditative Arts I
    12. Focused Meditation
    13. Tinkering I
    14. Tinkering II
    15. Soil Appreciation I
    16. Spice Milling
    17. Animal Kinship V (Finishing Soon)

I basically started with Animal Kinship so I could harvest meat faster and more efficiently and decided to learn Light Green Thumb to harvest faster from trees too. To get currants fast, I got the Mining skill and to use my focusing orb, I got Meditative Arts along with Focused Meditation to use it better. Better Learning to reduce skill learn times before I got to 20 skills and Tinkering to repair broken tools, and Soil Appreciation/Spice Milling were just random ones thrown in. Learning Animal Kinship right before the game closed because it had the longest learning time.

  • I thought this was going to be like, okay the skill I learned was how to report a bug while chasing an achievement, chatting in several IMs and groups and chiming in on Live Help all at once and not actually posting the wrong thing in the wrong box/place (yet). Or like...I learned that even while I have a bad cold, I can play Glitch in a prone position but I cannot chat as much and can't keep up with group chats. Or um...I learned that I cannot create enough mischief early on because I like to compete. The skill of keeping 15 tabs open on the computer in hopes that one day you might post a link to something faster than Varaeth does. My favorite actual skill: watching my friends have so much fun with each other. Meh, not a skill really, but it was my favorite thing this test:)

  • Skill #1: Mining 1 (because it is the most efficient skill to learn first off that bat)
after that, the order is a bit fuzzy.

    BL1,2, and 3, though I took a break between 2 and 3.
    BA1, because HOUSE!
AK1 as soon as I realized I was only earning 1 energy per piggy I nibbled overall
    Tinkering 1, 2, 3
And mining 2, 3 which I finished just in the nick of time, and now 4 which is doing it's thing over the break.

After the break, I will be working on my emblem for Tinkering, as well as the early Teleports, and finishing up mining 4 over a night or two of sleeping, since if the Monday mentioned on the front page is accurate, I won't be quite done before we re-open.

I have 11 skills. Not a huge quantity, but of very good quality ;)

  • I learned a new skill this test, the No Musicblock For You! skill.  It was taught to me by the tentygrahmillionthy chickens that I squeezed, to no avail, for musicblocks.   And I have AK3!

I guess that campaign by PETCB* was pretty successful in convincing the devs to reduce the number of blocks awarded.

  • Nanookie, glad to see someone chime in who was on the same wavelength as me about what this thread would be ;) I suspect PETCB is a competing concern to the charge led by Essie Kittens to be allowed to eat the chickens and of course in direct competition with BAWATCTJGA*.

  • I was missing those music blocks. I'll admit everyone got donated to the Giants early on. I simply didn't have the space for them for a while. But I missed getting them as often and when I realized they weren't dropping as often I worried about getting my music trophies again. :(

  • I learned 21 skills this last test.  By the time the game opens again I'll have 22.  I had a strategy all worked out for skills and buying a small house but it went blooey when the DEVs changed some of the skill requirements and raised the prices of houses.  I finally managed to get two emblems.  One I spent and the other I will spend when we open again.  I focused on Mining because I knew that I'd need a bunch of money to get a small house and some tools.  Also to buy food so I could continue mining. :)

So far no music blocks for me! :(  And I really, really want the GNG music block!  I've got time.
