I am willing to trade my rare Collectors' Edition 2010 Glitchmas Yeti for a one (1) year Molybdenum Subscription. Anyone interested?

  • Shawn is either going to have to give you his Glitch account (at which point you can sign up, get the subscription... and hopefully you can erase the credit card/paypal info from his Glitch account or he wil have access to it. You could, I suppose create a paypal account just for this purpose... and then delete it...)
Or you could give him you info and just trust the hell out of him.
A lot of work and trust (and money for that matter) for a sprite. Not judging, just kind of amazed.

  • The yeti says a couple of silly phrases and that's it.  Think carefully!

  • I already had a yeti and gave him to a deserving friend,I would do the same thing with another graphic piece of art that makes someone happy.I know full well what the yeti says and how it just lies there on the floor with no 3 dimension or  strata in game or to place anything on tables, seems like a waste of money .Sorry Shawn on second thought maybe I will go buy a new pair of ladys wonderful shoes instead.Hope you get someone that can help you out.Already checked with office concerning giving a subscripted account to someone and they allowed just once for me, as this is not something they approve of doing,so cant help you.Edited to say: the subscripted account was already mine just another avatar and paid for 1 year moly, wanted to give to someone and Office let me but it is not generally their rule as they must delete payment history of things, not sure how that works as I did delete the visa.So I would not set up another account and then give it over to someone just to clear what the office statement was about.I am so looking forward to the pickle ,thinks it is just so funny a doll to keep.

  • And there it is.... wondered how long it would be before the collectors items were going for real world money.
Sadly, we didn't even get out of beta.

  • It doesn't have to be that hard. It could easily be accomplished thus:

    1. We meet in game.
    2. I put the yeti into a trade window so you can see it.
    3. You send the money via paypal.
    4. I complete the trade and you now have the yeti.
    5. I use my paypal account to sign up for the subscription.

Technically that is trading a game item for real world money, but the money is just going straight back to Tiny Speck.

I was half expecting to get blasted for posting this topic anyway, so *shrug*.

  • This would go against the Terms of Service:

"Except as expressly permitted through the Service, you agree that you cannot sell or otherwise transfer any of the Credits, Currants or Items, or any other content or information included in the Service to any user or other third party, including on Internet auction sites (e.g., eBay) or in return for anything of value (including "real" money) or otherwise."

  • And there you go. Boom.
Posted 18 months ago by Lord Bacon-o Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not blasting you Shawn.... trying not to sound that way. As yet, Glitch doesn't really have a culture where items/services involved real world transactions. People have been trying to convince me for months 'it won't be like that'. My response was - without a clear stance from the company, it can and would happen.

In your defense - the TOS was only posted in a coherent format a month ago. It wasn't a big part of account registration for most players, so unless you went looking for it... you had no way to know Tiny Speck recently spelled it all out.

If it hadn't been Shawn, it would have been someone else. Shawn's request at least kept it contained within Ur, and wasn't looking to 'profit' or pay rent.

  • Got all excited seeing the thread title, then read it lol
Wow. As much as I love Glitch, I think it's very disturbing that a game items from here could sell for that much real life cash already.

  • "Wow. As much as I love Glitch, I think it's very disturbing that a game items from here could sell for that much real life cash already."

oh, it has only just begun. there's really no way to completely regulate any of this from tiny speck's side.. other than curtail using public areas "in game" for it.

the best way is to radically cut down on unique items or make them non-transferable but even then there will probably be account trading.

  • Why curtail it? If people want to do it, what's the harm? Does it have a negative impact on the game economy? (I'm genuinely trying to understand here)

  • @FrankenPaula

There are reports that certain countries use prison or slave labor to create in-game assets that are then sold for real-world dollars.

As long as there is no way for Glitch accounts to be used to create assets that can be sold on the internet, Glitch skirts this issue.  That is not to say that a Glitch account could not be leveled-up and then sold.

  • Seems people are assuming TS does not want a secondary market where Glitch items, virtual or physical, are bought and sold...Has that been decided by TS?
Posted 18 months ago by MeherMan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Wow, what a weird world we live in. Come to think of it, I have heard of companies in China that do this kind of thing as a business. I didn't know about the prisoners & slave labor.
Posted 18 months ago by FrankenPaula Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @WindBorn  Several US states allow corporations to use prison populations to work for very, very low pay; the US high tech and clothing industries hire workers at extremely low wages...etc. etc. So it's not just "...them guys over there..." It's us too.

  • "Seems people are assuming TS does not want a secondary market where Glitch items, virtual or physical, are bought and sold...Has that been decided by TS?"

Yes, given that the ToS has language expressly forbidding the sale of in-game goods for real money, I'd say that TS has decided that they don't want a secondary market.

  • @MeherMan

Why yes, I've seen prisoners along the roads and highways picking up trash and garbage.  In our county, they are not paid for this work.  The chain gang has a long history in US infrastructure improvement projects.

Internet 'gold-farming' is just another version of this, with the twist that the prisoners/slaves are earning real-world currency by sitting at their computer terminals.  Not the more traditional hard physical labor on road/construction projects.
Posted 18 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Wow, you all took this to a level of slavery?

    Fucking ridiculous.

  • @Quah/Shawn - you seem shocked at the nature of forum discussions. The purpose and point of any discussion is to explore the various avenues and possibilities. The commentary is not directed at you for the most part (people are pretty good at making it clear when they are) - it's simply discussion.

The weird, hidden "cash industry" is fairly common in online games. As I've stated elsewhere, I have a friend/classmate who makes a living gathering ultra rare items or leveling up accounts in another MMO and selling them. It doesn't take a math major to figure out - if I have 10 free accounts and a 'special item' comes along, and I can sell those items for $90 each - that's $900 for about 20 minutes of work. If you can't see the potential for the "cash industry" to be abused and manipulated by those with less than honorable intentions, then I do hope your view of humanity expands a bit through time - before you go buying London Bridge.

  • Loved reading that forum Cupcake, very interesting indeed. When someone steals your virtual item you just paid real money for ,Quote ----    "Is  this a crime"------ Not yet. My take on this buying a virtual graphic either specialty or not is in the user names decression. There are folks out in internet land that are wheelchair bound or phobias that do not let them be with other humans or simple challenges that keep them playing in virtual worlds, Agraphobia for sure allows that user name person to have a virtual life and makes them happy. So if paying for a specialty item and they have the cash ,Why not.
