Angry about upgrades

Why, why, why do I have to start every upgrade day with the cards I didn't want the day before?

It makes no sense at all.   If I didn't want them yesterday I am not likely to want them immediately afterwards!

Why can we not choose to reject a card for a set period, say one week?

I have had the same few cards over and over and none of the ones I want and need.  I know (hope) that this will even out in time, but there are far too many cards I don't want and few that I do, the chances of my getting the latter seem to be vanishingly small!

I have to use my one shuffle before I even start to choose, because the cards are identical to the previous days, this is extremely annoying!!!

I do not have unlimited time to play, I cannot log in every day, at this rate it will take me years to even have a chance at some of the things I really want.

Please please please can we choose to reject a card for a set period so that we don't get it dealt in every single hand!!!!!

  • I think it would be nice if there was a 'Please don't show me this card for another XX shuffles' option (at an Img price, of course), much like when you ask Pandora to stop for the love of God playing Part of Your World for a month. (I love my Broadway/Disney channel but JFC enough with Arial's emo for awhile).

I don't know how easy that would be to implement though. But it might be nice for people with lower Img to ask for a high priced card to be shelved for awhile so they can shuffle for lower things.

  • I should note to you, Jimothy, patience is something that is being slowly bred out of our world.  You are not likely to gain anything from arguing that point.

As far as the control thing....well, everyone has their pet peeve.  Personally, I like the system, as it does give a sense of always trying to gain something.  I am willing to give up a bit of control for it too.  Hopefully this system stays, and doesn't change from the voice of a few angry players. Unless we see a poll that suggests it is the majority of people who hate it.  Then I don't care.

  • @Jimothy, when you have played for two years and been re-set dozens of times to the start maybe you will know something about patience.

I appreciate that you are keen with the eagerness of a newbie and that is lovely.  But you might have a different viewpoint if you had been playing a little longer?

Until then maybe you could just wait patiently until you know what you are talking about?

  • Wow...this thread is getting a bit snarky...while I understand expressing that you don't like something, being rude or mean about it doesn't really help...honey vs vinegar analogy.

While I like the idea of 'don't show me for a couple days' option for some cards (especially ones that I know I'll never buy), the way it was presented here makes me want to run for the hills and never admit that I liked the idea in the first place.

I agree that this is about patience. Sorry some don't 'have time' for it. And I think the desire to have it all now, is especially problematic lately.  Step back, and enjoy the journey.  Use your free reshuffle. Buy reshuffle cards and use them liberally if you don't like your hand.  Give it time, and there will be plenty of other cards for you to choose, assuming you don't try to buy them all the day they are placed in the game.   Stop and smell the flowers...and pet some trees, and mine some rocks, and cook some meals, and squeeze some chickens, and brush some foxes, and go have sloths spit snails at you...and...step away from the upgrade cards if you don't like them, and do something else in game...

  • For those saying "patience", buy reshuffles etc a story:

I have screenshots of 3 "corn hoocher" cards which I started doing after getting "corn hoocher" a couple of times. I do not hooch with corn. Ever.  I will never hooch with corn. I will hooch with grain and maybe potatos, tyvm. I have those cards and am pleased.

But yet, something is missing. Where are the other Mining Maniac cards? I hear rumors that there are 3 of them, and I only have one. I'm not sure how many gem ones there are...surely it can't stop at 4%. And what about a quoin multiplier, that'd be juicy.

Let me buy for 10K a reshuffle card, just this once. What? What's this? It can't be? I've seen it already this game day. I don't understand, I shuffled. Then, I shuffled again. It can't be...*blinks* it's CORN EFFIN HOOCHER!

Some players, some of my dear dear friends who are sick of me saying Corn Hoocher have suggested I buy the card. It is only 500 iMG. Faaar cheaper than the 10K reshuffle. It is the sensible thing to do. One called me a dork. I like her. She's right. I should buy the card.

No. That card can go hooch itself.

I am generally happy with the card system.Waiting for the upgrade is sufficiently addicting especially with the free reshuffle.

However, a discard pile, a save for later pile, a better shuffle. a mechanic which knows not to repeat a card until you have seen every other card.

There does need to be some tweaking to how the cards are currently dealt and managed.

  • Just a little something while we are in beta would help, since the majority of us have/had a lot of skills and levels for quite some time now. An extra reshuffle would be nice.

I hooch with grain only, and bowl overhanded.

I got a couple of nice cards so I bought them, quoin boosts and a few small cards.  I have only seen a few mining cards, and not any of the big ones.  I really dont want many cards from what Ive seen of them.

  • I like the card system exactly as it is and wouldn't advocate any changes at all to the shuffle system.  I love that it adds an element of chance and mystery to the game, as well as specialization and differentiation to our characters.

I don't really identify with all these posts from people who are so "angry" and demandy that everything they want be given to them RIGHT THIS SECOND OR THE GAME IS NO FUN!!!!1!

The changes have made it more fun for me, and it's even changed my game play in ways that I like.    My two currants.

  • If you've bought all but say 5 of the upgrades available to you, when you reshuffle you'll get 3 of those 5 in your hand again won't you? If you only want one of those, then you'll have to keep reshuffling, yes?

Same if you had 28 upgrades that you didn't want, and 2 that you did. Your chances of seeing them are terrible.

  • Buy the Brain Upgrades. We came through the changeover with the bulk iMG because we had earned it. Buy or don't buy the energy tank, based on how you feel about the Mood meter. Look at the Brain Upgrades, at least, as simply putting back what you got for the lost Better Learning skills. I'm sure most of us have finished the skill set by now, so we aren't going to really use it, but we got the benefit of them long ago in the form of BL.

I'll freely admit that even with full sets of upgrade cards in some skills, it still seems like we aren't always getting what we got before the conversion. But, on the flip side, everyone has been wanting additions to the game- look at the quoin cards in that way, and some of the other bonus cards. Honestly, it drove me crazy that I couldn't get the Manic  Mining cards for a couple of days after the changeover, making mining really not worth my while. But I got them, and in pretty short order, considering the size of the deck I was going through. Sure, I bought some cards I didn't really want. I'm out of extra iMG-but I was only level 35 or so before the change, which only gave me a little over 500k to play with. That was enough to buy several brain upgrades, quoin multipliers, and energy tanks to get them out of my way. It left enough to get most of the unique cards that have come my way, leaving me almost done with them. It also isn't like iMG is hard to come by- I've only been playing casually and get around 30k more a game day, when I'm on.

Love the cards. Buy the cards. Remember that we've all asked TS for new things. They've given them to us, in Beta, and they're adding more as we go. And remember, they didn't HAVE to go through the trouble of setting up a conversion system to make our old skills and xp into iMG- they could have reset the whole thing, and you would have lost far more than mining speed, or whatever it is that you miss.

  • The thing that I don't understand is how a system in which you can discard or "reserve" a card for several days will affect anybody negatively.
It stops you from having the same card pop up and allows you more chances to get the card that you want.
Instead of just saying that it's not a good idea, please elaborate as to how it is not a good idea as I personally believe that it is a brilliant idea and we can all only gain from it.

  • Note that there are other techniques that could be employed to improve the shuffle.  The repetitiveness can be reduced without removing the randomness entirely.

    Here are some possibilities:
    - on reshuffle, don't show any of the same cards just shown
    - don't show multiple of the same card at once
    - choose cards randomly, but weight be how recently they've been shown

  • This game is in beta, again.  We are asked to give our opinion of the changes made.

Glitch has always been about choice.  We could choose which skills we concentrated on, which direction we would choose.

This choice has been removed.  Now we rely on chance which tells us how to play and what we can do.  I do not like this.

I mention my length of time playing to demonstrate that I have bags of patience. Not in any way to suggest seniority.  I have learned all the skills over and over.  I chose which ones and how quickly to do it.  Now I have no choice.

This is not the same game, this is a game of chance which I do not enjoy.  There is no skill or strategy in it.

I have been constantly presented with the same cards which I neither want nor need.  This has removed my choice of direction of play.  I do not like this.  I like to choose how I want to play.

I am asking for a simple adjustment which will not affect anyone who does not want or need it.  I do not see that such a request warrants patronising and facetious remarks from those who do not apparently understand the problem.

If anyone can explain why my request would be such a dreadful addition to the game rather than just saying how they don't need it then I will be happy to hear it.

In the time I have played Glitch I have never been so frustrated or annoyed with any aspect of the game as I am with these stupid, repetitive cards and I want TS to know that.

  • I don't have a problem with the idea of putting cards in a temporary discard pile, but in the meantime, if the card that's annoying you isn't expensive and doesn't negatively affect your game play, buying it will make it go away.
Posted 7 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Buying cards to "make it go away" is inelegant. Mere duct tape on the problem.

A single card appearing 6 times before other have popped up is funky. Yes, there are work arounds but buying the cards just hides the funk

I poke fun at Corn Hoocher because it is more fun to have a nemesis than a sheet of numbers "proving" something with a sample size faaaar too small.

When the card system was batted around I'm sure the devs knew some players would buy tens if not hundreds of thousand of iMG to get the "right cards". However, I doubt blowing through iMG is how they thought this system "should be" working.

Repetitive cards are bad game play for beginners as well not just us with giant decks. Really my giant deck should have me saying "aw I shoulda bought Corn Hoocher before someone left thousands of corn in my house, now it'll *never* come around again, waaaaa"

Some games are said to be in beta and nothing changes not even minor UI changes. In those games forum posting is pointless. To play is to find crude workarounds.

TS is different. TS is responsive to the player base. I've said this in private chats: TS feels like a company run by players.

I could buy that card or I can wait for TS to fix this.

At some point they will fix it or say "folks it really is random; stop stalking your cards."
Posted 7 months ago by M<3tra, obviously Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well, it is random, not funky.

I think something we have no visibility on is when cards are unlocked.

We have all the skills now... in the future as people start from scratch, they won't have all the skills, if you never want to cook, you won't expend a lot of time learning cooking skills, nor using them, nor increasing your brain capacity to make them learnable in under a year. We won't have got the achievements related to those skills,  so you probably won't have as many unwanted cards in your pack.

We're not normal now. Not by any stretch of the imagination (do you see what I did there?!?! LOLLYCOPTERS).

I get that a lot of this is confusing of frustrating, but our experience right now is unique, weird, etc... most of these things seems to be borne out of the weird place we're in, not from something inherently wrong in the system.
Posted 7 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't think the idea of being able to temporarily reject certain cards or otherwise have more control over which cards you can access is a dreadful, wrong idea, but I do think shhexy corin has nicely expressed why the OP has gotten no encouraging response from staff about it. We're in a weird situation, those of us who had established skill paths and such before the conversion. And we're not TS's target audience. The future new players are.

I think if one could make an argument for how the current system would be truly bad for new players, the idea might have a chance.
