The ticking animation up/down of energy and iMG

Was it always like this? I feel like it's slowing the game down for me a non-trivial amount. (I am playing on a netbook, so it's always pretty slow, but the ticking up/down seems to take forever and lag the game even more.)

I'd love for this to go away. No complaints about any of the other upgrades/changes, though! It all looks lovely. Maybe a "streamline Glitch for slow connections" button, or something?

  • I haven't noticed a slowdown in gameplay, but I do find it annoying. Every time it changes I look at it, thinking it's something important.

"Streamline Glitch for slow connections" would be awesome

  • It is one item of Change I'm not so keen on. I like the fade up to new number, I don't need it to add every single gain point by point for each item. Especially in currants and imagination.

  • The animation is definitely annoying.  By the time it finishes, I've lost more energy anyway.

  • It's much faster now than it was (but you'll have to reload to see the change).

  • The ticking is the most annoying thing I've ever seen - and it makes my eyes hurt! I had no problem's with the Growl (why are they called that?) at the bottom of the screen but this looks silly and is hard to look at.

  • I agree that it's pretty awful.
It takes forever to find out your new amount if you gain more than 1000 at a time of anything (iMG).

  • That too!

  • I find this harder to see too. But the one that I REALLY have a hard time with is the overwhelmed by ancestral...timer. Yikes. I really hope that one is made a little more user friendly again.

  • I do find the timer and the flashing of the downward percentage on mood annoying. Love everything else.

  • I kinda like the ticking..first thought was oooohhh nifty! It helps me keep track :)

Could do without the avatar/percentage image changing though. But no biggie :)

  • I have to admit, I find this pretty distracting.

  • Stoot, I can tell it is a little faster now, but it still is hanging a bit whenever anything else is going on in the game (clicking on inventory items, etc.) and seems like a resource drain with no actual utility. :[

  • i have to chime in to say that i too dislike the new animation. VERY distracting when it changes with every point; would be nicer if it was done is 10% blocks or some other larger element

  • I like this, it helps me to stay informed.:)

  • Huh. Another proof that I swim against the flow? I love the new animation. Was one of the first things I noticed and commented on.

  • I like it! When I hit a QQuoin, I feel like I've hit three cherries on the slot machine, and it's much more satisfying than just the abstract understanding that this quoin was much bigger than the others to watch the numbers spinning.

I haven't noticed any extra lag but am on a pretty rickety old laptop so I probably wouldn't much notice if there was...

  • I like this thing as well. When it goes up it feels like I'm cashing in or winning something.  Maybe it will get annoying later..

  • I usually like/don't mind the little changes but I am not too found of this one. It's distracting. Not the end of the world though. :)

  • I really like the fact that all the meters light up when the numbers change, since generally they fade into the background and are usually difficult to see now.  I think I would probably prefer a simple addition or subtraction to the new value rather than the animated counting.  Or perhaps count by 10s, 100s or 1000s for really large numbers.  The counting takes long enough that I've usually started doing something else by the time the final number comes around, which is what I really want to see.

  • Even sped up, the ticking numbers are a nuisance.  I've tried to ignore them, but every time I look at how much energy or imagination I have, they're spinning, and usually only stop for a moment before spinning again.  They're hard to read, and when I'm experiencing slow FPS (there you go, Jono!), they slow to an excruciating crawl.  It's not that I'm resistant to change -- in many cases, I welcome it -- but truly, the old indicators were better.  Also, the creepy half-smile of my avatar at 89% mood, with a halo of oddly-colored sunshine (does Ur even have a sun?), is just freaky.

  • I agree that there's too much animation feedback now in all the displays (mood, iMG and currants).

  • I do like the mood notification--it helps me remember to keep my mood up (something I never cared about before iMG).
I wish our glitches' actually faces would reflect our mood, too!

  • Streamlined Glitch gets a +1 from me. Glitch used to be something you could run on a potato, but that's a thing of the past.

  • "I wish our Glitch's actual faces would reflect our mood too"

No thank you, imagine a world full of half starved Glitches, with grumpy faces...shudder!  ;P

..besides, the 'realism' of face animations (specifically the face in the upper left corner of screen, the one that brings up the Player Menu) ~IMO~ are at a point where they are approaching a rather strange phenomenon called 'Uncanny Valley'.

  • It's been about four weeks since this change was made, and while I'd hoped that it was something I'd get used to and perhaps appreciate over time, it isn't.  I constantly find myself waiting around for countdowns to finish, just to see where I stand.  The animation is extremely slow, and it doesn't provide any benefit, unless you find the spinning numbers entertaining; I do not.  Watching the numbers actually has a slightly confusing effect if you're trying to keep track of gains and losses, akin to that of someone counting aloud while you're trying to count to yourself.

The energy indicator is illegible against many of the backgrounds in the game.  Normally, I play using the keyboard; even when I stop playing to mouse over the indicator, it's much harder to see than it was before.  The grinning mood face doesn't tell me that I'm only at 91% unless I stop to click on it, so I often hit 90% and don't realize it until I notice that I've received less imagination than usual.

These changes really seem like change for change's sake, not like upgrades to the UI.

  • Yeah, I have to say the ticking is still incredibly annoying.  I am regularly frozen and have to wait for the ticking to stop before I can do anything again.

  • Yeah - I'm not used to it either. It's an eyesore and distracting

  • Also agreed, I have noticed it add to the layers of treacle on a slow conection. It tends to be the last thing to complete.

  • I just levelled up, which came as a surprise, since last time I checked (which I think was earlier today), I had over 100K img to go til the next level.  I lost out on about 5,000 favor because I had emblems waiting at shrines.  It would be nice to have some better indicators visible at the the top of the page... there's an awful lot of blank space there.
