compact version of crafting dialog

I sometimes like to cook in a public place and chat with friends. Unfortunately, the crafting dialog takes up nearly the entire display. Could we have a compact version of the crafting dialog so that we can see what's going on, at least while the operation is in progress?

There are several possibilities that come to mind:
1) iconify the craft dialog until the recipe completes
2) an alternate tiny craft dialog that (just icons)
3) change the opacity to 10% until the recipe completes

I prefer #2, but that's probably the most work. #3 seems easy, but wouldn't allow you to click on players you can see underneath the dialog.

  • Can't you just drag the dialog box up and out of the way?

  • he or she can, if he or she has a large enough screen footprint. If he or she is on a laptop, that may not be a viable solution. IMO, they *do take up a pretty sizeable portion of the screen (and I *do have large footprint monitors).

It's a bit of a tough tradeoff though. compressing content is never quite as simple as people might believe. I've been working to build/rebuild/optimize a mobile version of our website (that is, the one I work for) and find it quite difficult to provide the full functionality in a compacted space, while keeping it workable with fingers (and not simply copping out to a dull text only format for UI). Admittedly, Glitch isn't used on phones, but the principle still applies.

In any case, I agree with the idea so +1 (imo, most could be done simply by reducing some of the whitespace. I could probably rewrite to about half the current footprint with a bit of re-jiggering.)

  • @dm Yeah, you can drag it down, but then it covers the bags. (FWIW, I'm using a 1920x1200 display on a Mac.)

@Woochi if the dialog was even 20% smaller, I could drag it below the bags, but that still leaves a problem for people with displays less than 1200px tall.

  • I agree Janitch. Even for those of us with large displays (at least speaking for myself) it's far from an optimal size. I usually maximize the browser window and pull the craft/recipe popup over the dialog area. If I could get the play window to stop auto-centering all would be well (for me) but alas that's not an option
