Community Garden Quest

From the community gardens thread it seems that I'm not the only one who was a little confused about how they worked at first (and thus just harvested, watered and hoed everything in sight).

So! I propose that when a new player first enters a Community Garden (or perhaps the Magic Rock informs them of the nearest one, whichever) they get a quest to harvest something, feed it to a piggy, collect the seeds from said piggys plop, then plant and water the seeds. Maybe with a sentence or two explaining how the Community Gardens work.

It wouldn't stop people who irk others deliberately, but I think it would help people who are new understand a lot more easily.

  • This seems cool! It could be triggered by learning one of the lower Gardening skills :)

  • I would like that. It could even involve the need to tend plots that others have planted, but not harvest the produce?

  • @Hburger: Actually anyone can water/hoe/plant seeds even without the lower Gardening or LGT skills :D This is why I mentioned it could be triggered when they enter a Community Garden or the Magic Rock could inform them or the nearest one (and then re-prompt them once they actually get to thee Community Garden).

@Idalia Dahlia: That sounds good, there could maybe be a certain number of plots that have to be watered like 3 or 5.

Going off that, the quest could keep track of numbers like some other quests do, for example: 0/2 harvested, 0/2 plots hoed, 0/2 seeds planted, 0/5 plots watered.

  • I like this idea muchly. There are many "why is this here and what is it for?" moments such as this when one is new to the game, which often gives too much opportunity for a newbie to offend/annoy an "older" player. This only results in animosity, or at least the newb feeling bad, which is NOT what we want. We want them to love the game and come back, not feel obligated to "make it up to" someone or avoid the game due to an unpleasant encounter with another player who is usually a delightful Glitch but had simply Had Enough at that moment.

Also, there is already precedent for the quest being triggered by one's first encounter with something (fireflies).
