Also, learn your skills. They will help you gain xp and open up the game more. If you need anything, add me as a friend and IM me. I'll give you some nice presents ;)
I'd always suggest getting your mining and teleport skills up fast, and the better learning. Gives you currants to buy food/drink and lets you move around the land. Level up with donating to shrines so you have a better energy reserve soonish.
Perhaps, now that we have our own house free (which we didn't before), the first level of gardening, croppery and animal kinship so you can play with your new house stuff.
The rest (skills, toys, etc) will be easier to get when that's done.
I kind of envy you because you are starting the game at a very exciting time all new and shiny.
And of course, relax, have fun, explore and make friends, and add people who friend you back. :)
Mining beryl and Sparkly is good for currants. As is nibbling piggies.
Sell only to TOOL vendors, they pay the most for everything.
Tool vendors can be found in Cebarkul and Level 4 East.
The Ancestral Lands are loaded with high-value coins, watch out for JuJu Bandits.
If you are going to buy a house, go for a bog house in Chakra Phool or Jethimadh.
You can get to your customizable test house by typing this in local chat: /home
/home will take you to your street, where you can then go to your house and customize it. To get back to the regular world, either type in: /leave or press the button in the bottom-right corner of the game screen marked: return to world.
Music blocks can help you level up by listening to them.
Visiting new streets gives you XP.
I would suggest learning the Better Learning skills, they really cut down on the time.
Also learn Herbalism skills and Gardening skills, that way you can use the garden plots in your test house.
Learning Mining skills will really cut down on the time it takes to mine rocks.
Also, if you are mining a rock, and someone comes and starts mining too, don't get mad, because that's called 'helping' and you both get bonus chunks of rock for helping or being helped.
When you learn how to use a test tube, the recipes for the different compounds can be found by looking at the picture in the description.
In Glitch the feel of the game is very different and the way you should approach the game is very different. In most MMOs (and games in general) the goal is conquer and smash everything as well and as quickly as possible. In Glitch it pays to have a more mild and laid back approach to the game. Do what you would like to do and don't worry about things taking time (like leveling and learning skills) and be sure to make some friends. That is all.
Best suggestion? Give me all your currants, its good luck and helps me a lot.
Oh and donate only meat and use EHSP when you donate to the shrines, everything else is mostly a waste to toss in. Meat can make you a lot of cash quick too (which in turn is sent to elf, of course)
Guano collection/selling is quite easy to do since it uses no skill, so then that can also generate a lot of cash (for guess who? thats right, ME)
For being new, its probably a great idea to learn Better Learning 1-5 now, while adding on as many animal kindness skills so you can gather meat/donate to shrines to cut the learning times as much as you possibly can.
Welcome to the game!!! Choose any path you like. When I first started a year ago, I got all the low level skills for everything and worked my way through all the avenues. I like learning it all. When we launched into the real game, I decided I couldn't live without awesome stew and worked my way through the cooking and teleporting skills with tinkering thrown in. For me, that route was wonderful - all my mining friends looked to me for awesome stew. And I really love to teleport to wherever I want to be - there is a lot to be said for being able to click on a street anywhere on the map and teleport myself there. Tinkering allowed me to be self sufficient for the most part. I slowly learned animal and soil skills as I needed them and picked up on the others. Probably, meditation was the fourth skill tree I worked on. I bought things from auction I needed before I had the necessary skills and my friends helped me out. There is so much to see and do. It is all great fun! Enjoy! Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need anything.
And she has 4 brand new big pink bags from me. I stole her pony tho'.
On a more serious note: the rainbow ponies kept crashing into things and the resulting multi-color smears were making everyone grossed out, so they were shipped off to Skyrim. Sadly, they each got an arrow to all 4 knees.
Everyone has given some great advice here. My only suggestion is to do whatever you like and be as Glitchy as you want to be. There's no right or wrong way to play Glitch. That's just how it is. Have fun and make tons of friends. Join Global and chat with people all over the world of Ur and feel free to ask questions there.
As Maruchan said, Glitch Remote is the best! Also, if you have an iPad, Glitch Inventory makes dealing with your bags and using the auctions way easier. Yes, you will have too much stuff before long.
Can you tell we are all exited to have a new player? Since we went back into beta there have been so few new players and MANY Glitchen have lost out on a favorite mission - equipping and advising the young Glitchies.
Welcome! I'd say, take some notes. How much things sell for, how much things cost. that way, if you put items up for auction or buy items in auction, you'll have an idea of what the fair prices are. Of course, a fair price can be exactly what someone is willing to pay...still, worth knowing.
When I was new, I also took notes about what each action resulted in. Example, as you progress, you'll gain favour with the giants and eventually enough favour will earn you an emblem (and later an icon). Certain actions can grant energy, mood or experience. I kept forgetting which action gave which result, so i wrote it down.
I agree on the skills: better learning is a great one to start with and keep going with. It helps you learn faster! Blockmaking is probably my least used skill but I may start again to stock pile on blocks--which I believe will come in handy with the new housing system. Take eyeballery and then buy a camera. Fun!
Enjoy it! If you learn a skill and find you don't enjoy the task, don't feel you have to keep doing the task!! And, you can always un-learn the skill. Example, if you take the time to learn cooking skills but find you hate the process, you can always buy "pre-cooked meals" from auction. If you don't like garden crop skills, you can buy from a produce vendor or from auction. Buying and selling at auction helps glitchens, buying and selling at vendors helps only you. Nothing wrong with that, just sayin'.
Don't get too caught up in the forums. There are lots of opinions about everything and sometimes it can get...steamy in there.
Also, you don't have to buy the big houses, when you have collected currents. There are smaller houses available and who knows exactly what will come of the new housing plans.
Add friends, it is a great way to get rolling. Give things away (like meals or random items, not necessarily very expensive items, until you can afford to), accept gifts from strangers and, YES, stock yourself with lots of bags. I wouldn't waste time with the smaller bags, except maybe for a first bag since larger bags are expensive, I'd go for the big bags since you'll need those. Don't over do it though. Bags only fit in the main slots, bags do not fit inside each other. And, you'll need those main slots to hold things like a spice rack, an alchemical kit, elemental bag, cubimal carrying cases and other junk. When you do get a house of your own, you'll be able to leave some stuff at home, so, if you have more bags/kits/cases than the original 16 slots, just leave the non-essential bags at home.
Be careful when donating to shrines, it is very easy to accidentally donate things you didn't mean to. I must have donated my alchemical tongs by accident six times. Phew! Also, if you find items with no value or items in which the info box says "vendors are not interested in this", don't donate them to shrines. You'll see, it gives you zero benefit. It is the same as donating to a trash bin.
I like what someone said up thread, about finding your own way. There are so many ways to play this game. Some just walk the streets squeezing chickens, petting/nibbling piggies and petting/watering/harvesting trees. Some mine and sell, mine and sell. Some like to chat with other players in game or in global chat. Some just stay in and around their homes, tending to their animals and crops or their still. See what you like!
There is a group section, you can search for groups related to the things in game that interest you. There are items for sale in the marketplace forum that are not auctionable which can be fun and expensive!
Or, you could play the way I do. I have the sound off (I don't like computer sounds) but I play while my guy is playing skyrim. Sheesh, sounds like I'm killing bears and wolves and running from giants but I'm not!!! I like giants.
Edit: Almost forgot, don't eat a lot to replenish your energy near the end of the game day! When the game clock hits midnight, you'll be refreshed with the full amount of energy and mood that your level permits. Save your foods for during the game day.
Edit AGAIN: (I keep forgetting to type things!) If someone sends you something in the mail, remember to click "take attachments" and, you can leave it in your mail to hold it for you if you don't have room in your bag(s). Not sure if you can reply and still keep the attachment, never tried that (sorry).
I think, because you're asking, that you won't be one of the newbies that is going to go around begging for things. Good for you that you want to know how to do it yourself! I had a level 18 (relative newbie and a stranger to me) come up to me yesterday and ask if I had any spare money.
I did lots of mining when I started (and with each reset) and sold all the gems and rocks. Once I had enough money to get a house then I started working on everything else, like donating.
Yeah PittyPat, I really hated it when some idiot kept on spamming global asking for money. That dude really got off on the wrong foot in the game. New record: 50 players blocking you in your first day in the game!
So yeah, seriously, ask for help, but not money or items. That's a good way to get blocked.
Hey, welcome to the game! I live seeing new faces:) Everything... has already been said. Lots of helpful Glitchen here! I will add one thing: Don't be shy. Most everyone is friendly. Hug, say hi, whatever you want. Making friends is easy, but you don't need help with that- just look at this thread! Happy Glitching!
Haha, I'm doing... ok I think? I have the cheapest house, more pigs than I can count, and a fair amount of collectors and feeders even though I can't empty them. XD
But yeah, thanks again for the tips guys, they really are helpful.
This is my 3rd day and one thing I found out for myself that I haven't seen mentioned is this: If your doing a cooking recipe and it calls for an ingredient you don't have, you can click on it in the recipe. Doing this, then clicking info tells you where you can get it or how it's made.
Any other absolute newbies who are reading this (level 5 and lower): don't be shy to say hello in global chat. You will likely get lots of help and advice and maybe a few visitors who need to finish off their "help a newbie out" quest (or whatever it was called).
You level up fast in the beginning so its best to use global chat for quick help and advice.
