In Andra: swapping out fruits for beans.
In Salatu: swapping out bubbles for beans.
I can only think that either someone wants way too much chili; is fulfilling a quest; or is trying to drive up the market for auctioned bubbles/fruit.
psibertus - ah, so that's what you were doing when I happened to pick this street to complete a quest, not realizing that I was wandering into your personal territory where you think it's all right to badger and harass people who might have no clue what's going on
thank you for correcting me in my thinking this was a public street /sarcasm
The trees are designed to be conflict-points. That's why the wood tree (the poor, poor wood tree *snort*) is set up the way it is. It's why we can poision trees out in the public streets. It's why there is the Poisoner's Remorse debuff, etc.
Everything is working just as planned (sound effect of Tiny Speck developers rubbing hands together gleefully).
I find the tree wars hilarious. You can always pick what you need if you check Zog and go to the right area. If I poison a tree it's not a political statement. I'm just in the mood to plant a new bean and work on my chopping and planting badge.
@Parrow Gnolle, if you followed the development of the wood trees and poison you mention, a history entirely here in the forums, you'd see that dirt piles, wood trees and poison were actually created in response to conflicts, not the other way around.
if there was a plan, it was for wood to come exclusively from dead trees, dirt exclusively from empty tree patches. poison wasn't brought in until players complained about the conflicts created by locked in tree populations.
striatic:
Obviously the developers respond to conflict. They spend a considerable amount of time watching how we play in the world. They shape the game around how we act within it to make it interesting, and give it spice in the form of playful conflict. They want to keep it an adventure that we will all enjoy participating in, not make it a tranquil joy-joy happyland. And that includes conflict and drama surrounding trees.
Studing the arcana of the beta period is not necessary to figure this out. Maybe you need to listen to some of the podcasts to figure out that Stoot is pleased when there is a certain amount of playful conflict in Ur.
there deffinalty should be more wood trees planted around ur if you look on the statistics on ur zogs glitchy tools there is
335 bean trees
225 bubble trees
118 egg plants
273 fruit trees
85 gas plants
37 paper trees
53 spice plants
14 wood trees
you can clearly see hear what needs to be planted and what needs to be posioned there no need for so many bubble and bean when things like spice and wood are going wasted
parrow, I've listened to the podcast you're talking about. it is funny you would assume I haven't.
there are plans to create conflict areas. conflict areas currently exist. conflict is part of the game but that doesn't mean that all the things you listed as devious plans to encourage conflict were in fact that. quite to the contrary.
in the case of all the things you mentioned there was conflict from the outset and the changes have been made to lessen that conflict, not enhance it.
as for what Stoot wants, I imagine he wants people to have fun playing the game he and his friends are making.
if the inter-player conflict is fun for the people participating in it, surely the devs want to create those types of situations.. but I highly doubt there is any gleeful hand rubbing over conflict for conflict's sake, like some kind of omnipotent mega-greifer.
certain kinds of conflict need to be mitigated and we've seen a number of attempts at that though alpha and beta, with varying degrees of success.
there is fun conflict and there is un-fun conflict. failure to understand the differences between the two is folly.
@santa - there is also a ridiculous over abundance of gas plants, for some reason.
which sucks, because since the gas isn't needed for much and is mostly planted in the bogs out of some bizarre sense of principle, few people come to the bogs to harvest, which leaves it a rather empty, inactive space compared to other regions.
the spice wars suck because instead of a happy, market driven compromise based on the utility of the trees in question, you get these weird disparities - like no gas plants allowed in Ix - at all - and no Gas plants allowed in the Bogs.
Ye that is very true striatum there's tree wars going off everywhere spice and gas wars then wood wars and other tree wars I think it's funny but at the same time it's just as petty as some of the miners and there arguments, likewise with trees and miners they'll allways be an endless argument on what they should have so
Well Vermillion has been a gentleman throughout the truce so i have nothing to say against him. I wouldn't group him with the bunch of crybabies who MUST have their own way in the game until the end of time lol. Oh hey Sparkles!
well if I am not ALLOWED to plant any other tree there I won't. I'll save time and just kill them and let someone else replant. no biggie.
@Casombra: I am friends with psibertus, who was planting bean trees there. I haven't got involved on that front as I'm a miner. I was representing him on the forums, but he posts now so I probably don't need to anymore
I was sarcastically mocking the group who must have 4 wood trees 24/7
Oh I know Jehannum and I was just commenting on your post... no ill intentions here! I am just curious about why they feel the need to have ALL wood trees? Not like there is a huge need for wood trees but a few recipes and a quest. One or two are sufficient to be honest and why don't they go to other dead end streets and just plant one if they are that anal about wood trees.
Oh dear... good thing I have RL things to do because I was getting an evil thought of grabbing a few Glitchen and reek havoc on those wood trees! There you go all you gas and spice warriors! Declare war on Wickdoon Mood! That should give you your evil fun <giggles>
I decided against making a group because it would likely backfire, and even more people would insist on 4 wood trees. well if you ARE ever bored and wanna kill a few of em off, go ahead :) and don't forget to harvest them first, planks make good donations lol
