Increase the capacity of firefly jars.

The way they work right now is so inefficient. I need to carry so many jars which takes up so many storage spaces, also jars the fireflies dont accumulate so if I have 4 in one jar and 3 in another then they are all worthless. Not to mention a single swarm of fireflies never has enough to fill 2 jars but most of the time has more than 7.

IMO this would just be more practical.

  • Agreed. All you can really do with them is make crystals that are essentially worthless unless you're doing projects.

  • You can also use flies from partially full jars in blockmaking, to make bricks.

  • partial jars can filled by finding another swarm and opening your partial jar. the fireflies from the jar will fly out, mingle with the new swarm. then some, one or none may fill the jar again. don't give up, don't move. wait patiently until the swarm moves close and try again. this may need to done a couple of times. be patient. usually within 3-5 attempts, you will fill a jar full 7/7 if your swarm has 7 fireflies to give. this is also the method to use to take more fireflies to a partial swarm and get your full 7/7  :)

  • I think 7 is a good capacity for the jars; it's exactly enough to make a crystal. If you have 5 jars, you can collect enough to make 7 bricks. Although, fewer jars means you're wasting fireflies, so I agree that we should be able to consolidate the fireflies in multiple jars.

Also, I think firefly collecting should have a more social aspect. When you're collecting barnacles in a party, it makes sense to also collect fireflies, since the two are often used in conjunction. However, as it is now, only one player can effectively collect from a swarm, and the others have to wait for them. I don't have any ideas on how to improve this, but I'm sure the awesomers can come up with something. :)

  • Maybe full jars could stack? I dunno. It does seem inefficient now, as far as how much storage room they require.

  • I find that when I have only 4-5 in a jar, if I release them, they don't often fly back... But, if I leave the street then re-enter, I can capture a full jar. I don't know if anyone else has this experience.

I agree that it'd be cool to make firefly collecting more social... Maybe like, the more people around a swarm whistling, the more quickly they are trapped? I don't know...

  • There's a delay before fireflies that have been released can be recaptured. Which makes filling a partially full jar downright painful.

  • I still think this a really worthwhile idea. Maybe there could be a 2nd type of jar? Or a level of animal kinship that allows us to harvest fireflies while we're away? Lol.

  • I would be fine with an advanced skill that allowed combining of jars.

  • Firefly Wrangling?

  • Yes to jars with a higher capacity.

and we could put Fly Paper in partially filled jars to stop the already captive little lights from lighting out.

  • Fireflies are just so damn hard to seduce!  It would be nice if we could raise fireflies, like we can incubate chickens and pigs.  Firefly farms!  I find it so discouraging making crystals.

  • We're told that there will eventually be more types of crystals and more uses for them.  In the mean time, I'd love some sort of firefly-catching buff, because somehow opening a jar and whistling takes more energy than almost anything else in the game.  (Gurly drinks don't work on fireflies, and didn't even work on them before the drinks were "fixed" recently.)

If you don't want to carry lots of jars, your best bet is to fill a jar, make a crystal, and fill the jar again.  Crystals stack much more neatly than barnacles and jars do.  Sadly, if your goal is to make bricks, carrying a lot of jars is the only way to go.

Grinelda, in the swamps, there are homes with firefly swarms, but I'd love to put one in my Groddle Heights cave, too... and some batterflies...

  • I don't care what functionality the jar does/has/will be. Just don't ever change the description.
"This is no ordinary jar. Well, it IS, but once filled with fireflies (seven maximum; objects in space need room to fly) just looking at it gives you a great sense of serenity."

  • I would definitely like to see some upgrades to the entire crystal/block creation process, from firefly catching to barnacle collecting to even jellisac scooping.  Within the last several tests, I've been focusing on this area (including moving to the bogs) and had several thoughts/ideas about it...

-Why isn't there a harvest bonus for barnacles?

-Why does grinding a barnacle only produce one talc when grinding chunks of ore makes around a dozen elements?

-There should be some kind of accessory for our whistle (perhaps a reed, tuning fork, or pitch pipe?) to enhance the radius of the area covered or the strength of the pull.  So many times that last one firefly is just near the opening of the bottle but doesn't make it in.

-The addition of "release" to the bottle menu to empty out those jars with only a few fireflies, without draining energy would be extremely helpful.  Twisting off the cap and waiting for them to fly out is a lot less hard to do than whistling a tune.  (lol)  While on the subject of energy, a buff or drink to stave off energy loss would be, frankly, awesome.

-I love that jellisac stacks at 100, and wish barnacles did as well.  While I'm wishing, bricks and blocks only stack at 5 which is entirely too low.  My solution was first to drop them on the floor next to my machine, but they are freaking HUGE!  I like to make them as I come in from wandering around and already have the supplies in my inventory, so that if I don't feel like standing around at the current project I can just drop them off and go.

-I'd really like there to be more uses for jellisac; I love that stuff!  I'm thinking mix it in the smelter with some crushed up herbs for a face mask (Glitch Goes Spa!) or jellies and jams.

I've had other thoughts both from frustration while scraping and chatting with other players in the project channel, but this post is already longer than most people will read...

My solution to the bottle problem has been to fill two bigger bags with bottles and only carry them while I'm out gathering supplies.  I have some spare bottles that I carry when I don't have those bags, and use those to swap out with partial bottles for blockmaking.  I make crystals as I'm out collecting and have enough talc/fireflies, and I also make sure to move the full bottles all into one bag and partials into the other as I go.  Then when I get home, I have a full stack (or more) of crystals, an odd talc or barnacle or two, a full bag of partial bottles, and a full bag of full bottles for later.  I drop the set of full bottles so that I don't accidentally use them on bricks.  Yes, I'm a bit anal-retentive.  :D

+1 Grinelda, I'd love to grow fireflies.  Mostly because I love the look of the swarm in my house when I can see it-- they like to hover close to the ceiling.

Also +1 to Glum's comment about batterflies.  Do want.
