Using emblems to assist with learning new skills.

What's the policy? Is there a limit to using emblems to assist in the learning of skills? It seems to have gone back and forth.

You know, preventing me from spending my hard earned currents to buy everyones emblems in auction so that I can use them to learn skills faster is only hurting the economy. :)

  • Its a limit on how much time you can take off a skill, but its hard to donate enough/use enough emblems to get to it. I usually donate at the primary and the two secondary giants shrines to speed up my skills. An emblem is always worth 1000 favor, but if you uppen your limit on the shrines you can get a lot more than 1k favor.

  • Yes, Tsuki is correct - emblems are NOT the best way to decrease your learning time, donation is the key. If you want to spend Currants to buy emblems to speed up learning you can, but donating will get you better decreases. Just remember to spend your favor when you are only a few points away from getting the emblem :)

  • Thanks - I have heaploads of musicboxes saved up. So this is no problem. However, emblems DID decrease one 2 week learning period down to a week.

  • Getting more and more emblems increases the max favor with Giants, so you can knock massive amounts of time off.  I think with the last lot of new skills, I was knocking about 20 hours off each game day by donating to the skill's 3 giants.  I prefer to use my emblems to make moar icons to have lying about my house giving me random goodness

  • Off the top of my head, buying emblems (at 2,000c/ea, best giant for relevant skill) is about 5 times more effective than buying vendor items to donate. Better to donate to expand your favour base or to learn new skills? Doesn't matter I guess.

  • You don't get img for buying emblems, which adds to the benefits of donating

  • IMG won't help you learn faster, unless you're putting into brain capacity. Even that's a stretch considering it won't effect skills you're currently learning.

  • 1.8c per favor point if you buy an emblem on auction for 1800c, where they often go for so little, vs. 3.3c per favor point if you're using EHSP and a traditional donation scheme.

Things get super wonky, however, when you start to consider that the items you create, say tree beans if you're also trying to level, could be sold at a tool vendor for 75% of their value. Then you also have to consider that there are a number of deals on auction that allow you to buy large quantities of items at less than their list price, say buying 10,000 meat off auction at 7c per meat, which is also a very realistic scenario.

If you're doing that you get 30k favor at a price of 70k currants. or 2.333c per favor point.

However, if you're going to be buying emblems you have to make sure you wouldn't be getting a better value by donating. If your plan is to sell awesome stew on auction for 165c per stew, which it occasionally goes for, then you'd have to sell 11 to get your 1800c emblem. If you instead donated 11 awesome stew with EHSP you'd receive... 660 favor, incurring the additonal cost of one charge of EHSP....

Well, oops, I just proved a completely different point. Well, the numbers seem to support buying emblems no matter where you get the money from. So, go forth and buy emblems!

There are a lot of different things to consider, but if your only goal is to speed learning as fast and as cheaply as possible, the current economy seems to support buying emblems and converting them directly into speed learning!

  • You've overstated the value of donations by a factor of ten, there. Donating with EHSP will only return .3 favour on the currant value.

Sure, things get tricky when you're not buying items along their stated in-game value, but you're not really going to beat just reselling it to a tool vendor and buying emblems (at their current market value) when it comes to cutting time off your skill learning.

  • Exactly. I said you pay 3.3 currants for one favor point. Or .3 favor for each currant.

  • whops! misread it as favor per currant :S

    it's early, I just woke up :S

  • :D But yes, you're correct. Emblems are way too cheap right now. Definitely the way to go for speed learning.
