learned tinkering V but still can not make a tinkertool

does anybody know why?

I thought the description is quite clear on that matter

"Learn Tinkering V, and consider yourself a mastertink. Repair speed is nigh instantaneous and Tinkertool operation barely taxes your energy, but that's just the beginning. With this AND Engineering, you can practically create any tool imaginable. As long as your imagination is restricted to tools that already exist, of course."

  • ah, but see, Tinkertools don't actually exist!

  • they are not put into the table, but the street vendors sell them, so they exist :)

  • Some more silliness -- you have to have alchemical tongs to make alchemical tongs.

  • as for alchemical tongs, perhaps devs thought about auctions and social networking with friends? )))

  • larky lion  - I just dropped my tongs and can still make them...  I think you need certain related skills to be able to make some tools

  • Well, if you haven't already tweaked your ingots, you need the tongs for that.

  • see but no where in the tinker tool description does it say you can make one with any tinkering skill, all the other tools when you click on them tell you they can be made

  • Lord Coyote is correct, the Tinkertool is simply a worldly manifestation of the imponderable ALPH. By extension, tinkering is an act of the highest devotion. As for using a Tinkertool to repair itself, don't even ask.

  • larky lion  - you could buy some!

  • That defeats the purpose, silly!  I could just buy alchemical tongs too :)

  • larky lion, but making and selling tools you may earn sustenance

  • I suppose if it could only be made of plain metal ingots (and perhaps a non-ingot ingredient), that would be better.

  • There are a lot of tools that cannot be made unless you have specific skills other than Tinkering V.  For example, you can't make an Irrigator 9000 without knowing the LGT III skill. You can't make the High Class Hoe without SA IV, I believe.  I have nearly all the skills except the AH tree, and I cannot make feeders or collectors.
Not sure why TS set it up this way, but I don't like it.  In order to be a glitch that can craft all the tools in the game, you first need to learn all the skills in the game.  Tinkering and Engineering should be enough.

  • @Shootsin Latters I must disagree. If you don't know how to hoe, you're likely to tinker up a pretty sloppy hoe. You need the skill to know how a tool could work.

  • And it's a real pity that you can't make Firefly jars with the Tinkertool either.

  • Moz- We don't have glass in the game, maybe if we did we could!

  • While I see your point,  MonsieurRoger, I don't agree that the game should operate that way.  That is just my opinion.

And if you want to make RL comparisons, the engineers at my company design components for tractors and do an excellent job.  I doubt many of them know how to farm:)

  • also, the inventor of the unicycle couldn't actually ride it.

  • Returning to the OP's original point, I don't think that the Tinkering V text necessarily indicates that one could create a tinkertool; the word "practically" has two meanings: "in a practical manner", and "almost". I think the latter is meant, although it'd be clearer if it said "you can create practically any tool imaginable", rather than "you can practically create any tool imaginable".

  • @shootsin Thanks for that useful bit of info. I had wondered why I can't make a high class hoe and now I know! Shame, as it's one of the few tools I don't have and I do a lot of gardening. The SA skills appeared to me to be more about digging dirt piles...
