Animal Crossing

I'm a big AC and Glitch fan.  I reckon it would do good if the Glitch team played AC a little to get a feel for the stuff it has going for it.

Things AC has that I like - the interaction with the AI characters is more 'realistic'.  This is my opinion of course, but they have less 'outlandish' things to say and so I can relate.  I don't bother talking to AI creatures much in glitch since the stories are long winded and meaningless.

Fishing... who doesn't like fishing!  In AC, fishing is a hugely cool thing.  As is making snowmen and catching insects

Seasons - real time seasons is uber cool in AC.

Anyone else think of AC stuff that they would love to see in glitch?  I'd really like to see a 3d environment evolve in glitch, though it would be too big for a browser based game atm I think.

  • Oh... and seasonal stuff - some stuff that appears during certain seasons only... also special days within a yearly calendar of events... fishing competition, holidays, etc.

..And a game of hide and seek.

  • Different people on the team have different tastes, but if there is one thing that unites us, it is probably that we all love AC.

  • I love the idea of the environment changing seasonally.  Not just graphically, but certain crops, trees, etc being more productive during the correct season.

  • Tag sales with your neighbors and selling them fish for a crazy profit...buying fake art....digging for fossils...shooting things out of the sky...I think I need to play that right now!

  • I always thought the Rube looked a little too much like Tom Nook.  When he starts telling me I've already bought something from him worth millions of currants, and that he's willing to set up a reasonable payment plan, I think I might start to worry.

Also I'm glad my friends don't move away as soon as I visit them.  I MISS YOU ELVIS

  • One of the things I enjoyed about AC was the user generated content in the decoration of clothing and other designs. Is there any chance that something like that could be implemented in Glitch? That would rock!!! :D Regardless, you already do TS, rock that is :D Thanks, *hugs*

  • To me, Glitch already feels like a fine mix of AC and Harvest Moon, two of my favorite games. :-) I agree that seasons - or just changing global weather patterns - would be a cool addition, even if the change would be only cosmetic.

  • @Stoot, that's cool to hear!  I thought of mailing Satoru Iwata and suggesting to him to make AC a web based game but realised there is too much in the way of safety and security of the kids who play to think about... it would also need babysitters which I guess is outside of Nintendo's vision.  That said, I think they should wake up to the way gaming is going somewhat.

I'm happy to hear Glitch staff like AC :)  Glitch has everything going for it in terms of user interaction and MMO...  what's really cool about playing online is being able to throw ideas at staff and have feedback - that's going to keep the community coming back... also knowing that the game will evolve over time - very cool to know.

I have some ideas on how to keep occasional players coming back more often - I'll post when I get a gap - I'm away from home and supposed to be working right now :p

  • +1 on the user generated content... though it would need moderation.  I'm picturing people pushing political agendas and stuff like that if not moderated somewhat.

  • Have the team considered a kid friendly version of the game?  I'm thinking one with none of the subtle adult humour etc and only people within the same age group playing together... I guess the trouble is it's easier to confirm someone is adult than a child... so how to stop predators could be tough.

Automated text filters could also be tough... and if it gets pop - moderating the IM will be challenging.  That said, it could be popular... perhaps a pay for only model that allows parents to pay a monthly subscription to guarantee a certain level of babysitting when their kids are online.  The kids only get to see the 'kid friendly' world - a subset of the entire glitch world, that is very actively moderated.
