  • it means to me, it does not matter if someone wants to buy their way in, that's their choice and their loss because they have not spent the time to enjoy the game.

  • Windborn - Hmm I'm not so sure about that myself, when things have become in demand previously they have been sold for huge amounts in the auctions... but we shall wait and see! :)

  • Seriously?  Right now IMG points are WAY more valuable to myself and most other players than currants are.

Would I pay credits for IMG points?  Yes.  However, it's not an option.

Would I sell upgraded items for IMG points?  Yes.  However, it's not an option.

IMG points can ONLY be obtained through playing the game and hard work.  So the addition of this new "currency" has added a whole new aspect to the game.

According to the news releases, it sounds like currants aren't going to have a whole lot of usefulness in the future, so I'm personally not highly concerned about making a ton of currants.  Does it matter if I have millions of currants (which I don't.  I have less than 2000), if they have little usefulness?  Nope - not really.

  • Dr. No-No: >_< Ah... I'm sorry, I don't understand your point there. Please rephrase.

  • Mathilda,

The difference is that there can be an unlimited amount of each of these 'in-demand' items. There's nothing that makes them rare or unusual.

And even with items that players can't make, such as Wine of the Dead, or Get out of Hell cards, the price falls pretty drastically after the first week or so.

  • In order to gain an advantage in the game, you have to be able to win the game.  You can't win Glitch, so how would you gain an advantage?

  • I hate to be the one to say this but all it takes to convert currents into IMG is to buy stuff and huck it in a shrine and you get favor out of the bargain.

But i do think that TS is trying to make a compromise here. They need to offer subscribers something - they need a revenue stream - because most of us would not pay for nothing or at least not on an extended basis. I also think that they are trying to make the fun new upgrades available to all while maintaining a benefit to subscribers. I think this system is a lot better than some games to be honest where you are nickeled and dimed all the time or you cannot play if you don't subscribe.

  • I AM a Beta tester.  I've had a subscription for quite a while.  I have a lot (some 3500) of credits.  That said -- I'm not into decorating or clothes.  My glitch has several outfits -- she mostly wears the one she's in now.  Even when the furniture was free (during testing) she only had a bed, 2 storage cabinets, a counter and every SDB she could get her little glitchy hands on.

I'm really interested in building my house and customizing my yard.  All will take iMG pts.  And if any staff is reading this -- windows and a basement, please!

  • WalruZ, I think the term advantage has been used by TinySpeck when they were saying that they didn't want to offer huge in-game advantages to subcribers. No, nobody is winning or losing, but there is a difference between offering wardrobe clothing for credits and offering upgrades to tradable items for credits.

  • Well then, what's left is the ability to amass enough currents to buy a funpickle or a yeti outright.  IMO, anyone who would spend real money for a funpickle needs help.

  • When I posted my reply earlier I didn't realize the furniture could be auctioned. That pretty much does mean you can exchange credits for currants, albeit in a very roundabout way.

As far as strategy goes, it IS fun to think about all of the minutiae. I know currants are just funny-money but it's still fun to earn them and scheme about them. For some people, myself included, detailed scheming/plotting/calculating is fun!

So in that sense, yes this furniture/currants/credits thing will change the dynamic of the game.

but... I just don't anticipate it changing the game by all that much. I don't see this turning into World of Warcraft where there are basements full of people in Russia or wherever grinding out gold for real-life $$$. I agree that would be depressing. I just really don't think it's going to go there. TS is pretty careful to keep the game fun and accessible. Their whole "free to play" thing just means there's nothing you can't see/do/experience without coughing up a bunch of money. It seems like they're sticking to this, and it's not like some betrayal that money is peripherally entering into the system.

Why am I even bothering to write this forum post, you may be wondering. Well, I love glitch and I think it's very fun to play, and it makes me sad that people are having less fun or maybe the opposite of fun. So I guess what I'm trying to say is.. have a nice day and maybe chill out a bit, for happiness' sake.

  • I think it's fine to be able to trade items that you bought with credits.  The only advantage it gives is being able to pay credits for currants in a roundabout way, and currants are by no means in short supply.  We really don't have much in game to actually spend currants on, so the only advantage having lots of currants gives is being able to buy "rare" items.  And "rare" items have only as much worth as you ascribe to them.  Personally, I don't really care about having and of the "rare" items, so being able to trade credit-bought furniture really doesn't confer any advantage at all.  I probably won't even trade my furniture - I'll just give it away to Glitchen I like =D

  • I think Tiny Speck are one of the few developers who when they say free to play it is actually free to play. I love that players without the means or desire to purchase a subscription are on an equal footing with subscribers in that they can play the game and not be level blocked like a lot of other cough Sony cough companies do.

It doesn't matter to me if I have fancy fluff in my house as I'm hardly ever there but I appreciate a game like this doesn't run on fresh air or goodwill and they have to earn money to further develop the game. The only reason I have a sub is I love the game and have the means to pay for a sub and not because it gives me an advantage (I have one outfit that I bought with currants). I really don't think this should affect anyone adversely in the scheme d things (apart from getting chicks ;))

  • Would you be happier then, if furniture upgrades were unable to be sold? I understand that people can make currants off it (even if it'd be a silly way to get currants...why spend money on items to sell to get currants in a game where they don't really matter?), but that allows those who are unable/unwilling to buy credits get the same upgrades. So you have two choices to get these items. In-game time, or RL money.

Though I do wonder, are upgrades tied to that specific item? Or any of that item? Like if you upgrade a chair, is that upgrade able to be applied to all chairs, or just the original? Also, I would see where prices for upgraded furniture is before worrying about any "advantage". Even though the idea of an advantage in a goal-less game is laughable.
Posted 7 months ago by Evelynddra Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Just the original. If you upgrade one chair, that doesn't allow you to upgrade any other chairs.

And prices are already available.  See the links in the staff post about this upgrade.

  • Yes, it's possible, in theory, to use furniture upgrades to convert credit to currants and then use currants to buy items that can be donated for imagination. However, for quite some time it has been possible, in theory, to convert credits to currants by using tokens to create imbued teleportation scripts, which can then be traded or sold via AH.

People give imbued teleportation scripts as gifts. Sometimes they also sell them. But this hasn't been a big problem because there are easier ways to get currants than making and selling imbued teleportation scripts. I expect the same to be true for furniture upgrades. If it's not, then I expect TS will take corrective action. So I'm really not worried about this.

  • I see thanks Wind. By prices though, I meant what they'd sell for currant wise.
