Slightly disturbed by the concept of using imagination as an all in one currency sort of deal, but overall I'm still extremely happy with the direction the game is going :)
One concern I have is whether or not the principles currently outlined for grinding exp will apply to grinding for imagination. I recently hit sixty, gaining the last 10 or so levels in a mere 10 or so days. It was a heck of a grind, during which I averaged about 50-60k exp a day. Point is that I found making simple sauce like mild sauce, seasoning beans and eggs (with eggs working less well than beans), and donating to be the greatest exp makers.
My question, then, is whether these will also be the most valid ways to produce imagination?
On a different note, if imagination will also purchase an in game currency, I assume it will still be currants, what would our exchange rate be?
Another thought just came to mind. If I am so inclined I can gift a newbie with 500k in cold, hard currants, but I cannot give them any of my hard earned 'life experience'. As a sort of melding of the two, will I be able to gift others with my imagination?
The way they describe it imagination is very personal. So my guess is that you will still be able to give people your money, but imagination is something that will have to be earned by each individual.
AUGH *NO!* Don't take away my xp! I've been grinding xp like crazy trying to reach max level since I *started* the game...! What will happen if they take this away!? NOOOOOOOoooooo!!! D`:>
And this part! " While Glitch is free to play, gamers can pay for access to more custom features. " Does this mean house customisations will require our credits, or is this only referring to how we can use credits / subscriber status to access certain wardrobe and vanity features~? D:
.... :: breathes :: ..... ok the rest of it does sound pretty cool though. XD
@Miso, if it makes you feel better I think you were right the second time :) I think the author of the article was referring to our current deal of paying real world money for clothes and more customization options!
Also, my thought was that all the exp you grind on your way to 60 will be converted into imagination somehow, but that anything earned thereafter will just burn off into the ether. As it is when I craft something now it just tells me I've earned all I can for today :P Aww.
Check out the companion article about Keita Takahashi on the right of the story. He has some realy interesting ideas and I like tha angle he is approaching from.
this is very interesting....
The concept that everything you do gives/creates more imagination for you, which you can then use to do other things.... swwet :DD
that makes me think that I might be able to get rid of xp.. by turning it to currants or things that I would rather have instead of more levels... WOOT!!!
and I LOVE the train that Keita is on, would definitely be a good way to travel. Can't wait for the rock quest. Definitely do it in cebarkul next to the vendor heehee!
Too bad about the sign post thing, I had a feeling that would be the solution for "increased control over our neighbors," but I was really hoping for a tie-in to the group halls/streets that were delayed by the Unlaunching. Homes built on streets built by groups would have been excellent. A sign post? It's not terrible, but it definitely means going from front door to front door of your "neighbors" will definitely require a loading screen and won't feel at all like a neighborhood. Just isolated soap bubbles of imagination floating through the water of Ur.
I also am incredibly please to have been right about something that I was guessing on, especially since I frequently tried to explain that there was logic behind my guess. I doubted anyone would be able to keep their addresses and live off of particular streets -- otherwise, the changes to the system wouldn't solve any of its fundamental problems.
I like Tiny Speck, and I'm happy to get this information -- but I have to admit I am beginning to find it irritating that we, the people that care the most and support the product, are having to search for this information from other sites (this article and the massively interview) rather than hearing about it right here from Tiny Speck.
Anybody else really want to get torches and pitchforks and demand Stoot set a date to talk to us instead of media? I wouldn't care if we had to wait until March, just as long as he picked a date and gave us time to come up with questions as a community.
(Devs need to remember to give us nice ways to create private areas within our housing spaces versus areas others can wander around in - Faunasphere members eventually learned how to do that, but it should have been an up-front sort of feature.)
But then again, with the whole "just answering a knock on the door gives permission for that player to take anything not nailed down" issue, I think they'll probably be changing the minimum permissions granted just by walking in a home, so it might be ok for the sign post to be just about anywhere.
Hmm, well, fully braced for big destructo changes if they end up being necessary. Although I guess one way to minimise ranting, wailing and furious teeth gnashing would be to keep all as it is up to a certain level eg 60, then change to the new system from there?
Perhaps the biggest shift is that “imagination” is becoming a mechanic. Instead of earning experience points or currency for accomplishing tasks in Glitch, players will earn imagination, which can then be spent to upgrade a character’s skills, for example, or to purchase currency. Not only does imagination fit nicely with the overall theme of Glitch—the game is set in the minds of 11 giants—but it provides wonderful flexibility for gamers to play Glitch how they want.
I am so very excited for this change. Good riddance to the current xp system!
Yeah, a game of giant imagination this outta be :]
A bit afraid of the "imagination = mechanism" thing though
Why would we want to "earn imagination" (points) when all we want it to spend some (real) and get creative?
Keep an eye out for the moving boxes, because it looks like all existing housing is going to end (either in one giant ka-boom or merely as a result of everyone moving).
My guess the herb / crop angst will be "solved" by allowing Glitchen to imagine both, if they have the I to do it with, e.g.:
Crop plots: 5000i (if you have no plots)
Herb plots: 10000i (if you have no plots)
Crop+Herb: 60000i
Herb+Crop: 55000i
I didn't see any mention of "March being the rerelease".
"Sometime this spring is" what the article says. Given stoot's previous forecasts of when things would happen in the game, "spring" is likely to be June, or August, or September.
+1 to wanting to see more communication from TS...soon. The natives are way beyond restless.
I think a forum post from, or a Q&A session with stoot would be a welcome event, even if it is nothing more than what has already been given in interviews that none of us seemed to know about. I'm available evenings this week, including tonight.
Seconding those who find it disappointing that TS isn't sharing those thoughts here first -- however tentative they might be. It's a bit like waiting at the gate for on a delayed flight, and hearing nothing from the staff, then finding out from Twitter that the plane is 1000 miles away.
I understand that the forums can get all Chicken Licken about changes and especially the R-Word, but it's not going to help if there's a perception that gamer news sites come higher up the pecking order than actual players.
I really do wish we knew more about what's going on and when to expect big changes. It seems to me that the game has stalled, for lack of a better description.
Yes, it would be nice to hear directly from TS more often and yes, I am very excited and curious about what is being developed to make the game even more awesome! *shivers with anticipation*
I keep reminding myself, though, that during alpha and beta (pre-launch) the game would be closed (eeek!) for days, sometimes weeks, at a time. We would moan and groan and try to rip down that friggin' closed sign! When they let us in, it would only be for a few hours or a few days at the most. At least during this beta period, we can keep playing.
When unlaunched, I was kinda of expect to see few more surprise posts show up on Glitch's blog like in the first beta stage. In this second beta or gamma if you will, very quiet?
sounds very interesting. Thanks peachesan for sharing.
I am a bit disappointed, if , it turns out that you wont be able to walk a neighborhood as it were -where there are houses grouped together all on a street . It sounds like the new version will be 1 house that takes up the whole screen -and no other houses in sight. SO, that sounds alot less community-ish and a lot more solitary-bubble ish. In some neighborhoods ,now, people hang out by the mailbox on their street and chat with their neighbors and friends of neighbors. It doesnt sound like that will be possible in the future. kinda sad IF that's what it will be. still though- very interesting.
oh- and if I metamorph into a bubble tree- then I want a TIN hat (that way you know a glitch is in there and that its not a "standard (?) tree ) while I'm the tree. :D
PS- YES , please I really want more info to come from TS to us, and even better for TS to ask us what we want (although I guess we can use the ideas forum to TELL what we want ) - it's nice to be asked.
I don't think we have to worry about when big things will happen, as they're very good about giving us plenty of notice about such things. It's not going to be something like, "I'm sitting in my house, making pancakes... wait, where did my house go?" We'll have at least a few days' notice. Now I'm not saying that wouldn't happen to some people that didn't pay attention to the notices or hadn't been around much at the time... just that the majority of us will be pretty well informed. :)
It would be nice to see another blog post or something to update us a little on some of the thoughts cropping up in the minds of the devs though, as several things in this article were very new to me! :)
Geh, it only makes me more excited about housing though!
Sweet! I cant wait till spring :D I was wondering when beta was expected to be over... And I liked how only 3% ppl got refunds :D thats called awesome loyalty XD
