Attic height with second floor added

[I was going to put this in general but I think this is just a slight bug with centering on the second floor. See the last paragraph.]

So, I unpacked everything in the new house and took great advantage of the attic since there was so much more um...stuff and it was good and with a few more tables and things I had a reasonable organization. I could then zoom out about halfway and it was easy to visually place things in the attic, and later retrieve them.

Today, I finished the second floor and *poof*! Everything in the attic ended up on the second floor. (That's no biggie and that's been mentioned already in another thread so I was expecting it and I don't think that's a bug, per se.)

The real problem is what I can see of the attic from the second floor is much smaller, less than half, it looks like, even fully zoomed out. (I was using filled firefly jars to separate piles of um...stuff in the attic and now I can only see about half their height.) It is possible to still place things there but it makes it harder to see and pick things from up there such as piles of peat or wheat bushels. Or the wood posts, which are thin and on an angle. And since I have to zoom out much more to see enough to get at things it is hard, for me, anyway, to see, and pick, the little things such as spare fruit tree beans.

I did an experiment. On my first floor, zooming out six times, I can see a good slice of the second floor and things resting on it. (And I'm pretty sure that was my view before the second floor--I usually run with five or six out zooms. It made it great to move things in and out of the attic.) Going to the second floor at the same zoom level, I can't see any attic at all and there's more of the first floor ceiling than I can of the ground back on the first floor. I had to go out at least nine to get any idea of what was in the attic and then it got really small.

  • If it matters, I've expanded my house twice but that was before adding the second floor and there wasn't any noticeable difference in the attic then.

  • I have three floors, and the attic is cut in half in my house, too.  Also, the spot behind the mini-map in the upper right corner is inaccessible.  I placed a decorative item a bit too far forward on the floor, it shot up into that corner, and now I can't retrieve it (though I can see it in photos).  I'd walk over to it and try to pick it up that way, but I can't get into the attic.

  • GP - try putting a shelf below the object and jumping onto it, then selecting the object with the keyboard.

  • I can't highlight anything in the attic by standing anywhere in the floor below it, and the little map prevents me from even seeing the item, so I can't drag it.  If we were still able to zoom in farther, I might be able to get to it that way, but as of now it's just stuck.

  • Some of the small things are better put in bags, cabinets or SDBs.  My seasoned beans, for example, are not easy to see.  I have not put any beans in the attic but I can see it being a problem.

Installing a shelf did not help me reach things on the far right of the attic.  I had to expand the house to retrieve them.  I did not try using ENTER but that sounds like it might work.  I was unable to retrieve them using my mouse.  Other attic items can be reached from a shelf but the attic view above the 3rd floor is less than it was when it was lower.  I placed only Bags and Gift Boxes in the Attic.  As soon as I was able to make cabinets, I moved all the bags into them and now my Attic is empty.

  • I'm with glum.....behind the house pic is the item (icon). You can retrieve items when you expand up. Sideways does not help if you are already on the 3rd floor, and its in the attic. Posted this in vanished icon thread also.

  • A sideways expansion did make the bags on the far right of the Attic accessible to me.  The house expands to the right.

  • Thanks brib, i expanded, and could barely see the corner of the icon, so was able to grab it.  Still, if someone has expanded to the full width, and its hidden behind the pic, wonder if you can still get it by zoom, un-zoom?  It might be once you expanded all the way, maybe the items wont fly up there.  Still something they need to look into.  Would like to know the answer to this for future.  But, until then, will keep my stuff off the right wall.....lol

  • Yes, I suppose if you are expanded all the way and still have items on the far right you may need to ask a Dev to help.  After I had the problem I scrunched everything to the middle.  After I got my SDBs made I had many empty bags and lot of empty slots in my cabinets.  I was lucky enough to get all the bags out of the Attic and into the cabinets.  Not everyone can do that.

I also had this problem with the mini-map in the first Test house before reset but that map did have a tiny gap on the right side which allowed me to grab items behind it.  No gap now.

  • Oh, good, someone else sees this as a problem. I added a third floor since I posted this and the same problem exists. I don't bother with bags in the attic but the only stuff that was up there now are piles of earth, loam, etc., that I will end up using at some point. With three floors, I have pretty much enough room for everything I need. (I did notice the far-right problem but I fortuantely didn't get bit by it.)
