Cheese nerfed?

Is it just me or did it just now start taking time to process dairy products?  And did Very, Very Stinky Cheese go from being 44 currants to 24?

I'm torn about these developments, mostly because cheese processing was a really excellent source of non-mining income, so I wonder about the rationale for the change.

  • It has always taken time and alot of energy  to process butterfly milk.

  • yeah... it was toooo easy to make a lot of money making cheese under the influence of no-no.  It seems that doesn't even work now - costing me mood and energy to age cheese even with no-no

  • Very very stinky cheese now only selling for 19 currants at the tool vendor.  Was 35 before

  • And yet the conga lines in ajaya bliss are netting some people up to NINETY-SIX extra chunks of sparkly in one thwack when there are enough people in the room.  That's 576c from the tool vendor.

Do the devs want mining to be the only way to make money?

Frankly, I hope they nerf mining a bit, because that shit is ridiculous.

  • mining in ajaya still takes time though  - I was able to get 20-30,000 currants in about 20 minutes doing the cheese thing

And they've said they are still going to adapt mining

  • Wow shexycorin - I've got to get into the cheese business!

  • heh, someone only mentioned it to me recently.

  • Frankly, cheese needed nerfing for a long time and it was mentioned many times how strange it was that it took no time. What sucks is the haphazard nerfology TS consistently employ. Changing the value of the item (on top of the other nerf) makes no sense and only adds insult to injury to all the people uninformed about the many, many, many nerfs.   I'm sorry to feel so strongly about that with all the great art and music; I still love the community, and ultimately some of it doesn't matter because the game is easy and someday it will be less laggy... but it feels like a lot of the core design is designed playing blindfolded darts. not the nitpicky stuff, mind you - the big stuff (vendor and economy planning, skills planning, etc). i dont do this stuff for a living and i dont want to oversimplify the challenge you have, but if any devs are ever interested in my experiences with game design, by all means chat me up! :)

  • Not only does cheese making take a long time now, it doesn't sell well to the vendor, the energy cost is ridiculously high and there is absolutely no exp rewarded by making it.

Good thing I just wasted a week and a half of my time raising my animal skills so milk is easier obtained and harvested instead of another skill tree. I'm glad the forums said nothing about it. I'm glad this change didn't go in during a beta test or the very start of the live game so I could plan accordingly.

I admit cheesemaking needed some change however that change should have been shared with us quickly. Going under the radar and implementing drastic changes can't happen in a live game without proper documentation, imo. Not when it's a skill based game and skills are based on the users time.

  • So, everyone, we agree that there needs to be more communication about these changes. And that is why we will *very* soon have all of the following: a Twitter account, weekly (biweekly, even) forum updates, and weekly blog posts summarizing gameplay updates. Stay tuned.

  • Kippsi, the "user's time" also includes time while you are sleeping, time while you're away from the game, as well as time spent in-game.  It'e really your patience that is needed, not your time.

  • During beta,  I knew nothing of the profit-making side of cheese-making.  I made a good living selling butterfly milk and meat from my collectors,  so now I'm just back to normal

  • @Blanky....  the regular, constant and consistent feedback from staff here continues to.... amaze isn't quite the right word...

But I want you to know how much your feedback and responses in forums mean to many of us.

  • Windborn, the "user's time" could have been "Invested" into "something else". I believe I was pretty "patient" while I spent my "time" learning a skill I "thought" would be a good "investment". Not only was my time "wasted" so too were my currants, items and favor.

  • Something that can be learned by my Glitch while my computer is off and I am enjoying RL social activities is hard to call "wasted".  I don't count time I'm asleep as "wasted" time, either.  Frankly, I was amazed that every single skill I wanted to learn could be learned by my Glitch while I was off-line.

In fact, in another thread someone suggested not playing for a week or two while you got your skills back to pre-reset levels.   Perhaps that is a solution that would work for you.

  • You see, I *want* to play. I purchased a full year subscription so I could play in the manner that I wished. Telling someone not to play a game because they are unhappy about one change is sort of drastic, don't you think? I thought I was allowed to discuss and be unhappy about a change in a game that I have invested time and money into without someone telling me to basically GTFO. Not good for business ;). Also, it's not just about the time "wasted". It's about the things I can do while I actually play the game. Skills make game-play easier and more beneficial to the player. So not having the skill-set I need to do the things I want makes my game-play slightly less enjoyable until the time that I "catch up". I would say that if I wanted to play but my game-play was diminished that is time "wasted". What I do with my time isn't to be judged by someone else.

When I say time, I mean the hours upon hours (not to mention currants, favor and items) of skill learning that could have been used in learning another skill. I don't care that something was nerfed. I care that I could have easily spent the time building those skills building another set. I can't stress enough that I want to play the game.

I'm glad to see Tiny Speck is aware that communication is necessary. Communication is necessary for a relationship to work, even relationships between companies and the consumer. That was one of the draws for me in Glitch. The communication between the staff and the players has been top notch and I voiced my concern and discontent when that communication faltered.

  • I kind of have to agree with Kippsi: after the reset I wanted to try doing something other than mining, so I went in for AK and Gardening.  Cheesemaking has been the only reasonable approximation of mining income I was able to find.

Given that the music block rewards are much rarer than the gems, and that EHSP is not a farming product, it feels like the left side of the skill tree kind of got hosed for reasons that aren't exactly clear.

I'm sure there's some discussion that happens internally, and that if the question had been asked "nerf cheese" there'd be a bunch of wingeing about about it.  But there must've been a better way to preface a change like the way cheese works (or the Rube) than making it a big surprise.
