This new Island needs a name - Perhaps we can suggest some?

A new island has been born in the Miscellaneous Islands archipelago, containing the twin quoin-hopping regions of Balzare & Roobrik but it has yet to be named.

Perhaps the Giants are still deciding, or perhaps they have run out of ideas ?

OMGiants it could be they need our help, a few suggestions to renew their nodules, stimulate their synapses and imbue their imagination?

Just for fun lets see what suggestions we have for a name

Mine are

Chalawa - which I think translates to Nightfire

or Tasogare - Japanese for dusk?

  • I think it should be called Bonamassa....

Named after electric guitarist Joe Bonamassa who had an album called "Nowhere in particular" - perfect definition of a miscellaneous Island

  • The Latin Word Desolo has many meanings, mainly: to leave desolate, abandoned, to forsake.

~sounds like the old Eastern European currency called Ruble, which ties in nicely with the big thing in these new areas: quoins.

  • Both these regions have a large number of tall trees, so how about Shermania, for General Sherman, the famous giant sequoia tree in Sequoia National Park? A giant's name seems particularly appropriate.

  • In keeping with the Latin-y street names: Umbra = ghost, shadow, shade, darkness, dusk, dark. All according to Google Translate (my Latin is not up to scratch :-).

  • Looking at the map we can expect some more islands. We do now know only ix, Roobrik, Balzare and Uralia..depends on how the others will be named I guess..
Ix is a totally different island than Uralia and so on. So the Japanese word for dusk applies to Roobrik and Balzare, but not to ix and uralia.
...Maybe translate the word miscellaneous in different languages and then slighty change into more Glitchian words. (I didn't change it btw...)

    mixxellanji islands
    razni islands
    Ocmano islands
    Rozne islands
    pelbagai islands
    dazadi islands

  • Spree, there's already an Umbra.

It seems obvious that the name should be Latin and not Japanese or whatnot since all the street names are Latin (not very good Latin, but we classics dorks take what we can get).  I like Desolo, but do note that it means "I abandon", not "to abandon", which raises the question of who was so proud of abandoning it that they named a whole island after their action.  ("Abandoned" would be something more like Desolatum.)

  • Nummus. It means 'money' or 'coin' in Latin. Likewise, so do Moneta, Numisma, and Nomisma.

  • Desolo:  I abandon..

That fits so well with the storyline I have developing for the island in my head.

The island Desolo..why is there no shrine..why no trees..why can animals not be raised there.  Whats with the massive amount of quoins?

This island was one a home of the glitch...but this is a place the Rook won, they took it over, it was completely of the Rook.  So we abandoned it..and it came to be known as Desolo.

Somehow we got it back though..maybe the rook left for their own reasons...or maybe we actually won and forced them to flee.  But the damage has been done...nothing new can be imagined here..however this being such an ancient places..ideas..thoughts...are now formed by it for us.  Comming to this land where the rook have left...gives us a sense of hope (mood), and reinvigorates us (energy obviously), and seeing what is still left..the glorious backgrounds..everything...just gives us so much more fuel to imagine with.

    Hmmm....
