how do people "drop" things and lose them?

this is mentioned in the context of the recent conch event, and it's been mentioned in other places, and I seriously don't understand.

if you "drop" something it's there where you stand and no one else can get it until you move away.

how are people losing items?

  • It is known thing for the longest time that large crowds working feverishly (ie lots of actions) lags the area/game. The conches were lost as a result of the terrible lag and subsequent flash crashes that booted you out of the game , the time then requiered to log back into an already lagged location meant that the item became fair game before the person who lost the item could reclaim it, also trying to click an item among so many glitchen is also very difficult as you frequently click another glitchen, but mostly it was the lag and the flash crashes that were the reason people lost their treasured items.

  • I actually accidentally dropped my conch during the fiasco. I was terrified for a second, But then I remembered I could press enter, and there was my conch waiting for me to click and retrieve, Glitch bless.

  • How about a bag option to gray out the drop verb?

  • Hydi - people may have accidentally clicked "drop" on their conch, and then got booted out due to a flash crash. By the time they got back, someone else had nabbed their item.
