“Zilloween” is over. Zilloween will return.

Thank you for your patience, Glitches and Glitches, while the world got littered with erroneous Zilloween memories.

These will now returning to their proper place - to the festival of Zilloween itself. You won’t be able to buy pumpkin seeds from gardening vendors for the time being, or grow them for a while (they’re not at their best this time of year anyway), and you won’t be able to carve the pumpkins that you still have (but why would you want to? It’s not Zilloween yet…)

You should still be able to make candy, and it is as sweet and full of sugar-rush as ever - but eating it or giving it away won’t count toward any holiday-candy achievement badges until the next Zilloween rolls around. This is not as daunting a prospect as it may seem – as the Glitch calendar shows, Zilloween falls on the 37th of Remember (which equates to an Earth date around the 21st of November for the next one) and then, as every other day in the Ur calendar, rolls around every 60-ish earth days subsequently, so there are plenty more Zilloweens to come. And every good Zillot will have a few Ur days to prepare for their holiday.

The pumpkins and lanterns seem to be holding up remarkably well - but the rot looks like it might be setting in, and our pumpkinologists tell me that they will probably degrade entirely by around 11.59pm PST on Wednesday 2nd November. It’s a very exact kind of vegetable.
You might want to bring them inside your house by then though, because if they do leave something when they rot, it won’t be fixed outside your door like the pumpkin lanterns were.

We thank you all for your kind patience with these pesky Zilloween explosions, and hope your teeth haven’t fallen out from all the unexpected new candy.

  • Annapeee, you have a wonderful way of putting things. If only all vegetables were as exact as the noble pumpkin.

    Thanks for the info!

  • Thank you for the update Annapee, I've had an awesome Zilloween. Couldn't quite manage to stuff enough candy into my little Glitchen mouth for that one last badge, so roll on 37th of Remember.

Great fun, thank you staff :)

  • I have a Hello Pumpkin in my inventory but no house yet. Might I get something left in my inventory?

BTW, this was and is a great idea. Having it every Ur year will make it memorable.

  • BarryW - yes, it  should  just get replaced in your inventory. Never fear. Itinerant roaming Zillots will not be forgotten.

  • +1 scilly

  • @ScillyGirl5 and Nytician - Carved pumpkins and Lanterns will both rot - though they may not leave the same traces behind. Whole pumpkins will not - though you won't be able to carve them. Your happy memories of pumpkins are yours to keep, and can never be taken from you.

  • How long will the next Zilloween be? I'd like to be able to give out and each as much candy as technically possible and properly get the achievements

  • It was pure and wonderful Madness!  I was so exhausted that I slept most of the day and missed a few things that I wanted to do but I had so much Fun!  The party at Somewhat Sump was still going when I finally fell asleep in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.  Shortly before that I attended the Feman Falters Death Party which was absolutely amazing!  At last count, I heard that 115 Glitches attended the Candy party, possibly more.  I have no idea how many died at Feman Falters but the stones may only be exceeded by those at Arlington.  I took many photos with my Glitch camera and am still organizing them.  They will eventually appear in my Flickr Zilloween set.

Thank you Devs and Glitches all for making this holiday one that I will long remember!  My only regret is that I cannot keep my lit laterns which have brought me so much pleasure and delight.  BTW, does anyone have a final count as to the Candy party?  What was the maximum number of attendees at one time?  How long did the party last?  Did anyone die of too much candy?  Ant stats, anyone?  How many deaths occurred at Feman Falters?

  • What happens to pumpkins which are presently growing in gardens?
Posted 14 months ago by Turbo Angst Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Raktivist  - A couple of earthly days, I should think. But I'd hate to conjecture and be proved wrong later. These ancient giantly festivals are as new to us as they are to you, after all…

  • Thank you thank you for Zilloween, TS and fellow Glitches!  The lanterns were super fun, but it was also really cool how all of us came together and traded candy and good will!  This is my first MMORPG and so my first experience of making in-game friends.  Candy-trading was a good ice-breaker!  Looking forward to the next Zilloween, and Christmas (Cosimas? Christmalph? Christmab?), too!

  • Sadly I missed the celebratory time as I was regrettably involved in other less fun activities. However, I do plan to complete all my "less fun activities" for the forthcoming month so that I may be available to enjoy the upcoming Zilloween and any other festivities that may occur. Thanks TS staff for putting in so much effort to make our lives here in UR more fun!

  • +1 to Turbo's question, I have a garden-ful of growing pumpkins - will I still be able to harvest them?
Posted 14 months ago by muffin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Turbo, Muffin (does anyone else think that would a great name for a band?)  - the ones you are currently growing count as 'whole pumpkins' and will therefore be both fine, and harvestable. And also lovely. What you choose to do with them then, of course, is entirely up to you.

  • Not happy... if I had known that pumpkins would rot I wouldn't have spent so many currants on fireflies.
Posted 14 months ago by Fussycat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Given that I can't carve them into proper candy fixings, is "catapult them at the neighbors" an option?

... actually, now I want a catapult. Dangit.

@ Turbo Angst...  Yes!!!!  I totally want a catapult!!!!!   lol

  • I had so much fun! I love my kitty lantern pumpkins. really hate to lose those.
also -if the lanterns must rot (while cant the gods imagination make it so they dont!) -then maybe could they please leave behind the full firefly jar when they rot-as it took me hours and lots of food to catch those silly fireflie?????
thanks again for great holiday .
ps why it it un-official ??
    ~serenitycat =^.^=
Posted 14 months ago by serenitycat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's unofficial because real Zilloween takes place in the month of Remember, not in accordance with earthly Halloween :) And only the fireflies end up in the lanterns, not the jar itself, so getting them back might be a little complicated :P

  • I can't wait to see what funny, Glitchy thing a rotted pumpkin leaves behind.  I have a few lanterns and quite a pile of carved pumpkins on the floor.

  • @annapeee: Thanks for taking pity on we (or is that wee) homeless Glitches who carry our goods on our backs. TS has set the bar for future events.

BTW, how do you get to be the bearer of all this great news while blanky seems to usually roll the rook when it comes to posting news?
Posted 14 months ago by BarryW Subscriber! | Permalink
  • BarryW - blanky was very kind and let me loose on the forums. We do, many of us, pop up to explain things at some point or other, though, depending on what we know, so it's not the most unusual thing in the world.

    (Also, I totally rolled Zille)

  • thanks annapeee and TS peeps, loved the zilloween fun!

what happens to the carved pumpkins and lanterns in our bags?
Posted 14 months ago by Alexis Hex Subscriber! | Permalink
  • ME GUSTA ZILLOWEEN.

And I really appreciate the ongoing party at Somewhat Sump. That was so much fun! I wish the sparkle and sneeze powders could handle having so many Glitchen in one spot.  I tried to use one of each of these powders, but the game told me there weren't enough uses. Oh, well.

I'm just glad I got those 499 giveaways in during this first Zilloween. I've got hundreds of candies stockpiled for the next time around so I can get the munching badges. My stacks of candy won't disappear or rot, will they?
Posted 14 months ago by Tonya Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ok, I just finished growing a bunch of pumpkins, but I can't carve them to get the pepitas out of them?  That really stinks!
Posted 14 months ago by Trekkie Gal Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Trekkie Gal: But you can make pumpkin pie or pumpkin ale or store them up and be the first to weird a knife and show your seasonal fesitiveness when the next Zilloween comes! Yay! That's really awesome!
Posted 14 months ago by annapeee Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, but I was growing them specifically to get the pepitas, so it's still rather disappointing. :)
Posted 14 months ago by Trekkie Gal Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you smash the lanterns, do you get to keep the fireflies?
Posted 14 months ago by snarkle Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Can't wait to see what my huuuuuge pile of carved pumpkins leaves behind! I was about to donate them all to a shrine when I realized that maybe the ones not-lit-up would still leave a little something and that I should wait it out.
Posted 14 months ago by Biohazard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Shoot. Now I have huge bags filled with candy I have to store because eating it won't count. I figured the eating achievements would go forward like normal for another week-- after all, post-halloween is when you should be having your candy binge, not before!

I also have a bunch of uncarved pumpkins to store which I'm not thrilled about.

Is the smashing carved pumpkins what we get in return for the rotting ones, or is that something different? Should we not smash them in anticipation for a gift in their place? I spent so much on fireflies not realizing they would rot, so I'm just trying for some return on investment.
Posted 14 months ago by Jezebel Seven Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm wondering the same thing that Jezebel is. I've already smashed my way through 640 pumpkins... should I finish the rest of them off or wait for them to properly rot?
Posted 14 months ago by Hrulgin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hrulgin - pretty much the same result, from what I'm led to believe. Rotting or smashed, a dead pumpkin is a dead pumpkin is a dead pumpkin. It is the tragedy of seasons.

Jezebel - 'return on investment' is a difficult thing to quantify without knowing how much people paid if they chose to buy fireflies rather than catch them. Hopefully, pleasure derived and experience gained are added into the equation? I don't know how these things work, I'm terrible at maths. But more importantly: you normally manage to spin your candy out for a WEEK after halloween? What are you, that's an AMAZING display of self-control. We should have a badge for that if nothing else...

  • Zilloween was a pretty fun run and I know we have to wait for the next Zilloween day and will be holding on to my roasted pepites from this event, but it would be nice to at least be able to plant for more pepites and to make pumpkin pies. :)
