Groups: unable to add new discussion

I am a member of the Ubuntu group where there are currently no discussions.  I was hoping to start one but the +Discussion button is notably absent.

I'm not certain this a bug - I could just be blissfully unaware of how the group interface behaves.  Am I missing something?

  • chicgeek, it could be that the admin(s) of your group made it so members can't post new topics. I'll take a screencap of what the admin sees/can do and add it here :)

  • Lovely to know - definitely not intuitive without some sort of signposting.

Seems without open posting permissions it's a bit of a dead group. Thanks for your help.

  • I've joined the group just now myself, @chicgeek. Maybe the creator will fix it, or you and I can create a new one. :)

  • Likely the latter.

Is there any way to see who the group admin is, anyway? Not many possibilities, of course.

  • Only if admin allows members to see the list of members. As a non-member, I can't see anything about who's in that group.

ETA: I just had a thought. Is it possible that an admin leave a group that he/she created? Without designating another member as admin?

  • Millie, that's good question. I hope when an admin leave the group, the next player who join the group first would become an admin?

  • Or that they'd be unable to leave until they designated another as admin, perhaps.

  • As an Ubuntu user, thanks for pointing out the existence of the group!

But yeah... it seems rather heavily locked down doesn't it? That's not very open source ;-)

  • I've created a new group, and will review the permissions later so that if I ever fall off the face of the earth it will remain usable:
