Does anyone play Glitch on a netbook?

I am thinking of ditching my aged laptop (which barely handles Glitch) when I travel, and picking up a new netbook.  Can't really afford a decent laptop, and want something smaller and more portable anyhow. What I was wondering is whether anyone has tried to play Glitch on one?  Not sure whether the wireless or the netbook capabilities or lack thereof would be the limiting factor.   Usually I play on my nice fast desktop with is plugged directly into the modem.

I just plan on using the netbook for 1) some sort of calendar application 2) email 3) probably some document editing 4) web browsing and 5) some online gaming, including Glitch and a bit of Facebook .

Thanks for any insight.

  • You need something with a vertical screen resolution higher than 600 pixels.  My netbook runs Glitch just fine, but I get into trouble when I open a bag (my bottom inventory row is pushed off the bottom of the screen).

  • I play on an acer aspire. It works just fine if I play full screen (f11)

  • I can answer about the wireless issue, I run Glitch exclusively on a wireless connection and have no issues whatsoever. Not using a netbook though but my friend runs through a netbook and the only problem he has is the bag issue mentioned above. A user/guide named Millie was able to give him a fix/workaround but I am unsure what it was.

  • Great.  The two am I am most seriously considering both have a vertical resolution of 768 I believe.

@ Octo - do you like your Aspire?  It is on my list of possibilities.

    Thanks everyone for your answers.

  • It's good for what it is, a cheap Internet surfing computer. The problems I have with it are only because it became our primary computer which is not good because it has no disk drive. I can't instal new programs and for my iTunes I load the songs on the other computer and move them over by flash drive. It plays glitch over wireless without a problem it just doesn't do what I need for my main computer.

  • I'm running on an Aspire.  Also F11 isn't full screening for me.  @ RainCat, I like my Aspire but the CPU gets a little warn out if I'm running big programs.  Should be perfect for what you're trying to do.

  • My netbook is an Acer Aspire One. It has 1gb of memory and runs xp.

I think it would be fine for Glitch with a bit more memory but as it is the game is pretty slow (walking, opening menus when you select an item) and it really locks up if the computer is doing something else like downloading an update in the background.

  • Another HP mini here and it works fine. Just have to F11 to see bags properly. The only thing that doesn't work is the descriptions of the giants in the encyclopedia, the pictures are huge and I can't scroll or see the text properly.

    I love my pink netbook!

  • I had lots of troubles with my netbook. it has small operational memory and the window with glitch often disappeared. as for wireless, very often "they have troubles reaching the server".
So you should have personal expirience to decide. Perhaps you could lend netbook and try it with glitch. )))

  • If F11 doesn't work to go to full screen, go into the tools/options menu and do a full screen selection from there.  F11 works fine when I'm on Firefox...but it sometimes doesn't work for me in Chrome. Then I go to the wrench icon and select the box in the Zoom line that is the full screen button.  Then you can get to your bags and such.  The game runs okay on my netbook, but I have an older one, so it's a little lacking in memory and stuff...so it runs much slower.  If I'm patient, it's fine.  However, I do have more issues with busy streets causing me lag, etc. when I'm on it.

  • I have an Acer Aspire One 753 and it runs Glitch better than my 3 year old laptop.  I can see everything on screen without F11 and it's only ever lagged when there have been mass gatherings (candy exchange, for example).  I loves it!

  • I've played on my Asus netbook too.  For the inventory area to be useful you really need to run it in Full Screen mode (as mentioned before, that's F11 key to get into it.)  I found that in non-full screen i only got 1 bag row, so switching between bags was near impossible.  Obviously keep your contact list in its squished (narrow) mode as well.

My netbook runs Ububtu 11, and I use Chrome as my browser.  I've found that F11 was ignored sometimes if you already have the game client running or starting.  The secret that worked for me was Ctrl+T (new tab) browse to something useful like the auction page, hit F11 there for full screen and then use Ctrl+Tab (switch tabs) to switch back to the game which should now also be full screen mode.

  • I have an HP netbook also. I always F11 it :). The screen is so much smaller than my regular PCs - but it is portable! I play Glitch on it in the evenings when I am on business trips - as I have been for the last 10 weeks! I do not usually get the street info when moving to a new street and it is hard to find fireflies, but other than that, it works just fine.

I am very glad I got it as I cannot access the game from my work laptop or desktop, so my poor house would become derelict and my piggies would die.

  • I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012. In Windows 7/Firefox Glitch and everything else could be laggy/slow; then I had a virus and decided to just take the Ubuntu leap. Couldn't be happier -- everything is SUPER fast, and Glitch in Chrome runs just perfect. Yes, I have to run in full screen, but I don't have any problems with that. I love my netbook! I can fit it in my purse if need be :D

  • I play on an Asus EeePC.  The game runs acceptably but there is definitely a little lag and it's not as smooth as on my main computer. I wouldn't want to go to a street with a big crowd.

  • HP mini, bags kinda annoying, seem to have more problems with lag, otherwise fine.

  • I use a netbook most of the time, (samsung nc10).

Screen height is an issue, I can only play with a browser with very minimalistic top/bottom bars.

Slowness is also an issue. The smuggling missions are completely impossible (By the time I get control after a new street loads I've been 'caught'), juju bandits similar issue, and co-operative harvesting of fast things (digging, jellisac etc.) is very difficult.

  • My main computer is in the shop, so I'm using my HPmini until it returns. I find the mini to be a major pain in the ass with Glitch-- even with f11, I can't see everything and the memory simply isn't big enough to do much without serious lag issues.

  • I have a ca. early 2009 EeePC that does a sufficient job. Make sure you get a screen with 1024x600 or greater resolution. If I'm going to be playing for an extended period, I'll go to a "higher-powered" computer. Just remember going in that a netbook isn't supposed to be blazing fast, and you'll likely be happy with it. If you have a friend who has one, ask if you can borrow it and play around for a while, to see if you like the "feel" of it.

  • My main computer is being repaired so I'm playing on my LG X120. I use F11 to see the bags and the lag with zoning and jumping makes smuggler and games hard, but that's the only problem and I enjoy playing on it.

  • I play on my Acer Aspire too.  There is a smaller area of the scene shown, but it is fine full screen.
It is a few years old now and it has travelled all over the world with me and has been wonderful.  Would recommend it to anyone.
