This is why I love the Glitch community.

My original intention was to post a somewhat angry thread about how people kept cutting down the wood tree I was trying to grow in Alakol (because apparently there are practically no wood trees anywhere?). I stood by it after planting it to keep it watered and protected, and twice, someone came by and harvested/cleared it before I could say anything.  Needless to say, I was angry -- but both people came back with a wood tree bean and planted a new one in its place after apologizing. The second person even planted ANOTHER wood tree bean and helped me look after the three. So thank you, laurbees and Spong, and thank you Glitch community, for being such kind and mature players. <3

  • if you catch them they are kind. im still waiting for someone to replant in the street I live in since i planted all the trees there, someone killed em and didnt bother to replant them that was a week ago. people dont seem to do much unless they are caught so they need to. as far as I can see. same goes for animals. I only ever see (and thats rare) new players feeding pigs and such. no wonder they are dying all over the place

    the nice people are the main talkers you see in chat, its the lurkers you have to worry about

  • I actually didn't know pigs would die if unfed. From now on I'll definitely feed them.

  • I wasn't paying attention when I accidentally harvest-and-cleared that tree, just being dim, so replacing was the least I could do!

  • A street has been clear of trees for a week?? What street is this? It's generally hard to keep patches clear in Alakol for more than a few hours.

    As for feeding pigs, it's a little counterintuitive. I only figured out the proper way to feed pigs after dropping a bunch of food and having the pigs swarm over it. "Yum!"

  • I think Lt meant the street s/he lives on. But I found several patches free in and around Stora Rede, which is where I was planting. My wood trees are all gone now. ;_;

  • 4400 estevan meadows unless someone planted them in the last day

  • @Lt...hmmmm, I could be called a lurker. I read much more than I post, I like to have something useful to say. I pet/nibble most pigs I come across, and if one refuses, I give him 3 steaks. Always. So, "Don't Fear the Lurker", lol.
    Also, for the wood trees, its not necessary to cut them down, you can just harvest like any other tree. Then there's plenty for everyone.

    (if you get my reference above, you're *old*, hahaha.. Or love Stephen King)

  • Hmmm...I lurk in chat, mostly because I'm usually ignored. I may be considered a newbie, having only been playing for almost 2 months, but I feed the pigs and even clean up the community garden when I stumble across it.

  • I can't believe there are actually clear streets. I've been looking for the last 2 tests for patches and have come across literally 1(one) patch the entire two tests. I was just about to write another post in the forums about THAT.

  • Okay I'll add a semi-related love story. But first a confession, I have been whacking down wood trees a lot for two reasons: 1. We don't often seem to need planks as much for projects (or else I just seem to have planks given to me by normal game actions a lot) and 2. We need patches pretty bad, and you don't have to actually KILL the wood trees to get a patch, so no poisoner guilt. So my penance will be to make some wood beans and "secrete" them all over next time :)

    My story is that a guy came up and started mining the rock I was mining without preamble. I don't mind sharing them but asking is nice and now that there are rocks ALL over the place, I do prefer to have the rock to myself when possible. Anyway, I admit I sounded a bit lectury when I said to the fellow, "Hey, you might want to ask to share first." He was new and quite sweet about it and said he didn't know (I felt so snarky). So I gave him a moonstone to make up for being lectury. And then he was very nice and wanted to do some trading and was all excited and friended me (I think I was his first friend maybe). I just like that even after being a little short with someone, they will still be nice to you like that. Glitch attracts some sweet people.

  • my Stand (lol Phoebe) on this is that if the menu states harvest and clear - that is what I do - I think, in general the streets surrounding projects should be left un-planted til the projects in those areas are complete...also, there are achievements (5 of 'em) for clearing from 11 to 1003 trees...sooooo...yep, people are gonna clear 'em...I have planted bunches of trees - and they have been poisoned in order to be cleared...that's the way it goes sometimes...plus, you gotta remember with the wood trees - there are only 3 harvests anyway...unless it can be kept alive longer than when they were first introduced and it grows back?   Which, if that is the case, then I need to report my trees in my backyard not exhibiting expected behavior.
