Mortality

What's the plan for this? Right now, dying seems like a back burner kind of thing. Hell One is fun and all, but something tells me mortality is going to end up being much more complex down the line (ahem, we want the deets).

  • It'd be neat if there were specific challenges that required being dead. Mining brimstone? Gathering Hellworms for your garden? Learning the secrets of milking batterflies? Something involving a pitchfork?

Standard game fare is that if you die, you get punished. Would be neat to turn that on its head and make it a means of exploring even more of the world.

For the record, though, I'm totally fine with this angle never getting explored. There's plenty in the land of the living to keep me busy for a while.

  • it seems like at the very least there's going to be something involving wine of the dead.

  • I was trying to imagine how my game play would be affected if my character had a true mortality, a specific number of Glitch days assigned to it. And if I knew how many days I had too, which I would want to know--or would i? ...and how cool it would be if my character could be reincarnated with some of the features from its previous life. I don't think I would enjoy mortality nearly as much if I couldn't count on reincarnation.

Most people would hate it, I am sure...unless they knew they could reincarnate at their former level.

  • could we haunt non-dead players? cause that'd be fun;)

  • Maybe as part of the haunting you have to assist them in a challenge, Jacob Marley-style. "Wooooo! Here is your ghostly taco! Eat it in the caverns and you're guaranteed to get a gemstone when you mine a rock! Also, it'll bring me back to life! Wooooo!"

(Also, grinding brimstone = black element; 6 black elements + 6 red elements + 6 sparkly elements = "purgatorium")

  • Or maybe haunting could be a skill you had to learn, much like meditation?

If they make the hell bigger I could have a new place to explore too!!!

  • so i've been thinking about this and how to reliably get myself into hell, if i ever wanted to do that. right now it is pretty tough, which is good because accidentally dying sucked.

but i was thinking a cool way to access an expanded hell would be a street called "lemming cliff".

basically you'd jump over the cliff, but unlike other falls in the game, you'd actually DIE and go to hell.

i think it would be hilarious to have a spot in the game where glitchizens poured over a cliff like lemmings in order to get into hell. maybe the base of the cliff could be littered with crosses and flowers, from all the dying.

  • I still have high hopes that someday I will be able to donate myself to a shrine

  • Thanks! I been changing my avatar like 2x a week though while waiting for the game to reopen haha sigh

  • Oh, I like the Lemming Hill idea too :)

Eventually, hell will have multiple levels and you'll go down further the more you die within a set amount of time. Other things? We'll see!
