Garden plots herbs & veggie...some ideas.

What I see is happening is that some cool new skills have been added ,and now alot of questions regarding housing and turmoil in the herb gardens has come along with these new skills. It's unfortunate that people who live in homes with vegetable gardens don't have
easy axcess to herbs, the cost has sky rocketed in the auctions on them, and if you go to the public gardens it seems that we will have to camp out in the gardens to grow our own herbs.
And unlike the people that live in the bogs who can go to a produce vendor and buy produce
at reasonable set prices we have to spend large sums on buying herbs. I also remember
that with the gardening quests where we have to grow the large amounts of potatoes and I think tomatos (?) and the second part of the quest was to sell them in auction they were sold
very cheap because anyone had axcess to purchase those same veggies at the produce vendor. This is taking some of the exceitment out these new skills and the quests that go along with them.

I think the perfect solution to this would be to have the ability to purchase garden plots to place in our home or under a shade tree, or maybe some type of small greenhouse shed
(that we could also have the ability to purchase), or create; shade tree seed, or build
the shed with planks and metal ingots maybe. But, say, sell the plots in fours, 1 square of 4 plots for currents or credits. If sold by credits than that should be someting that we could
keep and take along to a new house if we move else where. I know people have mentioned this same idea in the past, now it is something needed more than ever because it seems
these new potions will have a strong presence in the game. This is creating a large
financial and time issue for the people that don't have herb gardens. I also think it will
help keep the peace in our entire Glitch community. It's upsetting to see others involved
where feelings are being hurt, and negative static in the forums can calm down.
And it would also avoid a housing crisis and people feeling they need a second home
just for the ability to have reasonable axcess to herbs and have to spend time with an alt just for that purpose only. Or one other solution maybe a way we could trade, fair and reasonable, veggies for herbs....maybe in a communty area farmers market type situation.
This game is way to fun, creative, clever and unique, and not to mention alot of cool people here
to have these kind of issues and confrontations. If I want to see housing crisis and hoarding
and prices rising so quickly on consumer products I will turn on the news or watch a reality show! :)

  • That's probably going to be part of the new home update, as part of the home upgrading system. Or at least hopefully will be.

  • I really hope it's part of the new home upgrade. The community herb garden is a recipe for conflict with these new skills.

  • Personally I don't mind not having the ability to grow herbs.
For me its ok to buy from player who can grow them.
It makes it more interesting for everyone having veg and herb gardens separate.

  • I'm hoping for more herb plots. 28 in the crop houses but a max of 12 in the herb plots? Herbs take as long as potatoes to grow and each plot yields only one flower on regular harvest. Doesn't seem to balance out.

  • Ok another thought......What about being able to rent out garden space, say 4 plots or so
just enough to grow some herbs to at least complete the quests. Maybe sold somewhat like the party packs are sold. The costs of all items involved in potion making (in the auctions) is basically, IMHO, taking advantage of people who don't have herb gardens.

I understand that it makes is more interesting for you having the veg and herb gardens separate, but I assure you that it does NOT make it more interesting for me. So I'm not sure that calling it interesting for "everyone" was the most accurate description.

  • I have been holding out on buying a house for awhile now because of this issue. I would like the ability to grow both. I want to be able to customize my experience and not have to play with two characters like some are doing.

  • Okay, let's first stipulate that this idea is likely mooted by the forthcoming (and as yet unknown, and therefore tantalizing and candy-like) changes to housing.

    But.

So, in a 28 garden plot house, (1 block of 16, and 1 block of 12), let us say that one could convert (at some cost) the block of 12 to herb farming.

    Or.

Convert (at some greater cost) the block of 16 to herb farming.

But what about other kinds of homes? Convert at some lesser cost a smaller quantity of plots.

What about bog houses?  Probably the option there would be to container garden crops while leaving the herb garden alone.

I dunno: first stab at the idea.  Look forward to other smart solutions from the rest of you.

  • +1,264 to Crashtestpilot.

That's one of the best ideas I've read (and I've been following this particular discussion closely). Thanks!

  • Easy.  Sell garden boxes (like a window box or a sandbox IRL).  Herb ones for us normal people, and crop ones for those bog-dwelling troglodytes down south.

  • (Maybe the crop ones could be elaborate hydroponics setups...)

  • I've said it before, I think the perfect solution to this is to get rid of the Produce Vendors. Then the crop growers can gouge the herb growers right back. Go Go Gadget Forced Social Interaction!

  • I'm not sure if I completely agree with having a full herb garden option upgrade (and vice versa). It's kind of nice that the swamp homes have their advantages. It keeps things in balance.

However, I'm the kind of Glitch who likes being able to do everything, and I have been enjoying the new skills. That being said, how about something akin to a Chia Herb Garden? (And, for the record, Hey! Remember those things? There were advertisements for them EVERY. SINGLE. CHRISTMAS.) Alternatively, for the Swamp Things, there could be plain old Chia Pets that could grow vegetables.

Then again, I always wanted a damn Chia Pet. I've been saying it for years, but I guess everybody figured I was joking. For the love of God, I wasn't!

  • If we're going to keep ( and no one is saying that this is true) the 12 herb @ 7500-swamp and the 28 crop @50K Northern Territory, then I say, yeah, pull the produce vendor.
At the end of the day, tho, it would be better to allow flexibility for crop/herb growers rather than factionalize Swamp v. Gropius-nightmare-Ikea  homes.

    Why?

Robust supply chain benefits everyone of every level owing to downward pressure on price which in turn is a function of having a floor price dictated by Cebarkul Tool Vendor.
