Test Notes- 7-14 September

Test! Test! Long long test!

Here we go everyone, and we’re going ‘til sometime next Wednesday (we’ll get the time announced by the beginning of that day)

What’s happening this test?

• Conversations with objects in the game will now center your game view on the dialog. That means if there is a conversation with a chicken initiated, the ‘camera’ view of the game will focus on that, so the dialog shouldn’t get lost off the edge.

• Race teleport locations, like the yellow Game of Crowns teleport spots, will be eliminated... soon. We are phasing them out so that the race tickets will allow you to challenge specific groups of players. We will be expanding the types of tickets available over the course of the test. And, you'll still get the tickets at the dispensers.

• Tool recipes! You now will be able to make most tools yourself as long as you have the skills Tinkering 4 or 5 AND Engineering or Remote Herdkeeping, depending on which tool. Exceptions will be: Tinkertool, Focusing Orb, Beaker and Test Tube - you won’t be able to craft those... yet.

• Animal sadness thresholds have increased.  When you enter the world, there will be many animals who are sad in streets, and you will find extra Meat, Grain and Butterfly Milk out and about. No need to report them, the levels will even out. Go ahead and pick up whatever is found on the street - free stuff!

There are a couple other things we have brewing that we may be able to spring on you - but we’ll leave surprises for later!

Update: Toy vendors are now live and fencing their goodies for the Glitchling in all of us.

Update the second: New tools are available!  What tools? High-Class Hoe, the Irrigator 9000 (a high powered watering can), Super Scraper and Grand Ol' Grinder- these all can withstand 5 times the wear of the normal versions of these tools.

Where do you get these items, you say?

The Super Scraper and Grand Ol' Grinder are sold at Hardware Vendor and Alchemical Goods Vendor. In addition, Grand Ol' Grinder is also sold at the Mining Vendor.
The Irrigator 9000 and High-Class Hoe are sold at Gardening Goods Vendor, Gardening Tools Vendor.

Update the third: We are working out some kinks with these tools at the time of this writing. They may not work if you don't have the lesser version of the same type of tool. But, we'll fix!

Update the last: Fixed!

Update for new achievements! What? YES! We added new achievements to the game, over 60 of them!

  • I don't think we should have more inventory space. We already have up to 256 non-container slots, and that seems plenty. Half the challenge is figuring out what to carry and what to leave behind...

And yes, I'm forever running out of space too. If you gave me 1000 slots, I'd just fill them and still be forever running out of space. More slots won't help.

  • I don't think we need more inventory space, but I do believe it's rather silly to have to carry both low grade and high grade tools for working on a project (if that is indeed how it works- I've not had this problem but never really paid attention).

They are better versions of the low grade tools, and ought to have the full functionality of the lower grade tools plus a new functionality which makes them the better ones. It's not as though they perform different tasks at the base of it all. I can get a $10 shovel at some hardware store and use it to dig holes, then when it breaks, if I spend $20 on a better one, I'll still be able to do the same thing.

  • I noticed the recipe for expensive grilled cheese changed from stinky cheese to very stinky cheese.

  • Maybe it's a new skill to allow use of those higher end tools on projects.

  • How about a real expensive swiss army knife the opens bottles, has a little axe, and you can beat rock to a pulp with it?

  • Heck, Xyrem...I'm still waiting on use for the cool construction tool we had a peek at a while back...it's almost like a swiss army knife, but think bigger tools... ;)
