Moving houses can be a problem with all the stuff. A "feature" suggestion for the dev team...

Could we be allowed to buy a new house *and* keep our old houses for a day or two before it is put up on sale? That'll give us some time to move our stuff.

Also, this replicates the real world behaviour! You never sell off your existing house before you buy a new one!! :)

Thanks,
Asid

  • No, moving is not a problem as long as you have friends to help you move.

  • @Daffy, that's one option.  Also consider doing a clearout and donating or have a garage sale in your old neighbourhood.  Like IRL we sometimes carry around too much stuff!

  • Asid - some people probably depend on the money from the sale of the old house to help pay for the new one. If you have friends online you can ask them to help you move or to store your bags/extra belongings for you. There is a player offering a moving storage service that might work for some. Some players take a chance and pile excess bags on their doorstep when they vacate the old house, teleport to new one and wait for cooldown to teleport back to pick up old belongings. Or, you could sort thru your stuff and leave a great welcome package for the new owner.

  • There has been talk of communal private spaces as well as the possibility to own multiple houses. Either of these features would make it easy to move.

  • What I did was teleport to the doorstep of my new house and drop all my stuff off there.  This works better as new developments typically don't tend to get a lot of traffic if you get in there early enough.  I also dropped a note asking for people not to bother my stuff.  Then I port back to my house, gather up all my remaining stuff, and exit.  I then sell the house and buy the new one.  After buying, it gives you a free port to your new house that ignores cooldown, I took advantage of that handy feature and just moved my stuff waiting for me right outside my door.

  • I suspect that part of the reason we don't have a grace period is because it encourages us to rely on one another more. In life, I'm a hermit. In Glitch, not so much... :)

  • How about a pig cart?  We could heap up a bunch of our stuff and lead a pulling team of pigs triumphantly to our new locations! :))

  • Thank you all... the votes seem unanimous... so I'm going to add each of you to my friend list :-p

  • I love the idea of a pig cart.

  • Pig cart is an amazing idea!  I do wish there was an in-game moving service, I must say.  While the game does encourage interaction, relying on in-game friends can be a bit of a bind.  Thankfully I'm in no hurry to move house just yet.

  • @ confowsled

A pig cart is nice, but first you need a license to drive it. Then a permit to operate it in a residential zone for the move.  Each step I could see spending the better part of a day waiting in lines at the Bureaucrat Office, only to be  told it has to be on an approved moving day within a certain time slot, which so happens to be yesterday.

  • I hide my stuff in my boyfriends house for moves, but I don't think telling people to get someone to help you or just drop your stuff in public is an adequate answer to this question.  Both of those have high potential for your stuff to get stolen

  • Thanks @Laurali .. I share the same concerns, and hence the post. Unfortunately my spouse won't play Glitch at all!! :(

  • I agree with Laurali. Getting help moving or dropping stuff in public is not an answer. That is a workaround, but not a solution to an obvious problem.
Keeping the old house for a little while would be great, or even better would be if all your stuff could be moved! Maybe have a frog removal service, where you can pay a set fee to have all your stuff packed up and transported to your new home?  Or some kind of storage system where you could leave all your stuff (for a fee, like real life storage rental spaces) and it could be a small fee for an hour (which should be adequate for moving) and get higher the longer stuff's in storage, that way it would discourage people from just leaving their stuff there forever.
This or multiple houses would be great :)

  • I really like the idea of some kind of a privAte storage area where people could store stuff for A limited amount of time to make moving easier. I am not ready to move yet, but a feature like this would definitely make moving less of a hassle especially since I'm a bit of a pack rat

  • In another thread someone recommended putting excess possessions on the auction for a large price then retrieving it after you empty bags at the new house.

  • I discovered the other day that you can fill a Large Bag entirely up with hog-tied piggies from your own house.  This is useful when moving if you want to take 'the herd' along with you.

    1. There is no time or quota limit to how many piggies you can hog-tie in your own house and backyard.

    2. It will only let you hog-tie a piggie if you have none in your possession.

However:  You can hog-tie a piggie, put it in a large bag, drop the large bag.  Hog-tie another piggie, pick up the large bag, put it in the large bag.  Drop the large bag. Rinse.  Repeat.

The problem can come into being that you find yourself carrying a Large Bag that is leaking piggies.  (when they start escaping)  I know I had that problem after awhile.

This is just a tip for people who are moving houses and want to bring along their piggies.  You can also list your hog-tied piggies one at a time in the auction for, say, 500 currants and cancel the auctions when you arrive at your new house.  That isn't as much fun as carrying a leaking large bag full of hog-tied piggies, though.

  • Cool. I loved the auction idea :)

BTW, a shamefaced admittance: I did not know I could carry multiple bags! And that is why I was so frustrated about moving houses. But multiple bags + auctions will be a nice workaround until we can have multiple houses.

    Cheers,
