McBeal Forestry Service

In looking for my part to play in helping make the world of Glitch a better place, I've set upon helping resolve one of the great mysteries of our time -- the rarity of wood trees.   Yes, I realize this is an issue for some Glitchen, both pro and con, as it may relate to territory and other such stuff, but that is not a pool I care to dip my sandaled toe into.  Rather, the McBeal Forestry Service will, in the guise and form of yours truly, wander the many lands seeking to plant wood trees where ever a venue has 4 or more trees in the first place.

Now, as i pursue my Completist Badges, I'll be able to do my part in improving the world at large, and I invite you all to do the same!  You, too, can earn the right to wear the Official McBeal Forest Ranger green fedora as you plant wood trees far and wide for the enjoyment of all Glitchen, everywhere.

To recap the simple rules of the McBeal Forestry Service:  4 trees or more = Plant a wood tree
It's fun, it's woody, and it's cellulose!

And, to those who prefer to spend their time destroying the valuable resource that is Wood, may I simply say:  Nanny nanny poo poo!

  • I love making the cedar salmon planks and also find wood a great donation to any God in the game!! Pushed me to the emblem on many occasion :D I'm a woody, therefore for wood lol

The trees I use the most often are bean for the awesome stews! 20 beans a dish is a high content! Next cherry (which I tend to flog on the auctions) same with bubble :) Luckily I have a garden which allows a wood tree to be planted but would be nice to have somewhere specific to go to in order to harvest more for donating.  Have wasted far too many paid for credits going to Wickdon Mood of late.

  • lmao...it will never work!!! I loves me frooooot also :D  :P  May I also add that the wood tree innuendo always cracks me up.  You'd think you'd get tired of a tree talking dirty but it's hilarious for me EVERY time! LMAOOOOO

  • Yay! Wickdoon Mood is now a wood tree free street. Joy of joys :-)
Posted 11 months ago by Anderella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I guess we take our joy where we find it. Some find joy in collaborative projects that they think add value to the game and others find joy in ... er ... what exactly is the point of killing wood trees?
Posted 11 months ago by Dotcom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • What's the point in planting them? Clearly TS feel that killing wood trees adds value to the game, otherwise they would not have put tree poison in to the game ;-) Surely, the "value" of planting them, is equal to the "value" of killing them? Just because the word "killing" has a very emotive meaning in the real world, doesn't mean it is a violent destructive force in Ur.

And I am all for collaborative projects. I just find it *very* amusing how everyone takes this tree stuff so seriously. I actually have nothing against any type of tree, I sometimes like to take opposing viewpoints, even if I am not personally for that viewpoint. That's how democracy works, right? I am sure if TS named it "regenerating" a tree or "transforming" a tree in to another one, then everyone would be a lot calmer about it.

  • Somehow I have gotten the feeling that some find more joy in fighting about a topic here in the forum threads than they do in 'championing' the plight of the Wood Tree in-game.

Obviously TS designed the wood tree to be exactly the way it is, for exactly the reason people on all sides in this controversy are utilizing it.  It provides 'interest' in the game, and room for some creative turmoil.

  • not really sure why anyone is arguing here anyway, I donated 100 wood beans and 24 awesome stews to the cause, Wickdoon Mood has absolutely nothing to do with it.

flask, dotcom and melting sky, I think you posted in the wrong topic.

  • The only problem I see with poisoning wood trees is that they are already in the minority.  4 wood trees in the whole of UR (excluding those in a person's back yard naturally!) I do find it a bit bewildering as to why anyone would want to take away something that other glitchen will need, be it for a quest of food or any other reason.  Each to their own I guess.  I have to remind myself this is just a game lol.  We all have our own way of thinking and playing.  I like others to have the same opportunity to finish the quests as I did.  I was pointed to wickdoon mood by and older player otherwise I would have spent days walking around without finding one wood tree.
Posted 11 months ago by Hathaway Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, you are completely right Hathaway, it is just a game. Many people forget this fact. Do not blame those that play the game in legitimate and moral ways. The game allows for a changing number of trees of a certain type. If you have a problem with a lack of wood trees, it is up to *you* to change it. There is tree poison, there are wood beans, there are auctions, there is the bean seasoning ability. I would not moan if someone destroyed all of my favoured tree type, I would just get on with replanting. That is why the game is so fun, each player has the power to change the world around them.
Posted 11 months ago by Anderella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree in principle Anderella but let's be honest here.  It's a heck of a lot easier to wipe out the minority than it is every fruit and bean tree.  Let's be honest...
Posted 11 months ago by ~Arabesque~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I also don't believe it would be fun for any newbie on a quest to fail time and again because of the wood tree.
Posted 11 months ago by ~Arabesque~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I disagree. They get replanted eventually. And there is now a strong group of wood tree fanatical players who guard and replant wood trees anyway. It is a lot easier protecting 4 wood trees (and replanting them if they get killed) than it is to protect all of the fruit trees, as there are too many of them to protect. The whole idea of wiping out a certain type of tree is impossible anyway, as there are always beans to be made.
Posted 11 months ago by Anderella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you're a high enough level player to make those seasoned beans and of course have the skill to mix the poison/antidote AND if not have enough play coin to buy either/or.  It's only the high level players that are making it an issue for everyone else.
Posted 11 months ago by ~Arabesque~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I will not be mentioning wood trees again on any forum discussion.  I'm too old to carry on a 'dead' argument that will never be resolved.  I just need to chill and harvest :) That is why I play glitch.  For time away from RL stresses.
Posted 11 months ago by ~Arabesque~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Why do you need to protect fruit trees?
Posted 11 months ago by gamecharacter Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Casarat why do you find it stressful? It's just a game. I don't understand why people get stressed about a game!?

@gamecharacter no one is protecting fruit trees, it was a thought experiment
Posted 11 months ago by Anderella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I believe Casarat said he/she plays Glitch to relieve stress not become stressed because of it.
Posted 11 months ago by gamecharacter Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Exactly, hence my question
Posted 11 months ago by Anderella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You've never experienced negative stuff in relation to a game before, Anderella?
Posted 11 months ago by diaveborn ♥ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Huh? I think it's perfectly normal that he/she plays game to relieve stress, lol. I think you're getting it mixed up.
Posted 11 months ago by gamecharacter Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Life is full of negative and positive events. If we only experienced one of those two, life wouldn't be worth living.
Posted 11 months ago by Anderella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So if an event that is negative happens in a game you might get a little stressed sometimes?
Posted 11 months ago by diaveborn ♥ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Nope, it's just a game. It's not worth getting stressed over. Life is stressful enough without virtual stress!
Posted 11 months ago by Anderella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Good for you then, and I say that unsarcastically.

  • Again, thank you all for your generous donations and inclinations to Share the Wood!

Your aspirations and perspirations will make it happen!

  • for what it is worth, there are not 4 wood trees in the whole of ur exclusing backyards. as of this moment there are 59.
    glitch.alwaysdata.net/resou...
This shows the residential streets they are on also. That doesn't refer to people's back yards, that refers to the streets people live on. While they are indeed a minority, the wood trees, they are certainly not impossible to find. Again, this is neither condemning nor condoning any actions of planting or killing, just information for the uninformed.

Anderella - i get the feeling you get off on pushing people's buttons.

  • the glitch resource database hasn't updated since before christmas, as can be seen at the bottom of the page you link to.
Posted 11 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Doesn't matter, my point still stands, there are more than 4 wood trees in Ur. Many people forget about the housing blocks. My housing block has a bunch for instance - i know, because i've been farming them.
Posted 11 months ago by Pixieyelsraek Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't get off on pushing peoples' buttons. I enjoy working with people in a community and helping others that need my help. I fail to see how killing some wood trees threaten you, but you have clearly taken it personally.
As you have so clearly shown, there are many many wood trees in Ur. And harvesting a wood tree yields a larger quantity of resources than any other type of tree. The constant flux of tree type adds an extra dimension to the game, it does not destroy it.
Posted 11 months ago by Anderella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Whoa, let’s get something straight, i don't care if people kill trees. I agree that the flux of trees is intended in the game – however I do feel there is a better way to handle it than fighting & personal attacks. I have stated this over and over. In fact, my posts as of recently have been all about how there are more wood trees than people claim and that wickdoon isn't the end all be all of wood trees - i was accused off the boards of supporting the tree "killers" so how you gather than i am affected personally by the killing of wood trees boggles my mind.

What i was referring to is your rather consistent need to poke at people such as someone who has decided to stop arguing because it is stressful. Or your flawed logic that wood trees were made to be poisoned, but insinuate that other trees are more useful and therefore shouldn't be. You even admit that you like to take the opposite viewpoint of people, regardless of you own ACTUAL opinion on something. Yes, yes you do obviously like just being an antagonist. I, for one, will no longer be biting. Take that as a "win" if you need for your epeen.
Posted 11 months ago by Pixieyelsraek Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Your constant need to add me in your posts a P.S. hints to me that you are taking it personally. I have never made any personal attacks and never intend to! My question regarding the "stress" was genuine - it was not intended as a swipe at them.
Obviously my claims that wood trees are useless is an exaggeration, maybe I should have been clearer and stated that they are not as useful as other trees. This is not flawed logic as there are more items to be made with resources found on other trees. Also, I have never stated that wood trees are designed to be poisoned!
My personal opinion is irrelevant, this is a game. In the interests of balance and democracy, it is a good idea to hear both sides of the argument. That is called debating and is a cornerstone of democracy. Sometimes I will take one side, sometimes the other. It doesn't really matter.
Posted 11 months ago by Anderella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Last I checked this was some guys thread about how he was going to go forth and plant some wood trees.

Why are people trying to side track the thread by starting arguments?

Also, why are they using an alt to do so?

Anyway, nice work Wally. Let me know if you would like some help.
Posted 11 months ago by Melting Sky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Probably because people like to argue just for the sake of arguing.
Posted 11 months ago by gamecharacter Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thank you Melting Sky!  The idea is that every one can help simply by planting the occasional wood tree in places where there are already 4 or more trees.  Of late, according to Zog's tool, there are 29 wood trees out there, not counting the housing areas.

This isn't about covering the world in wood, it's about helping make Ur a nicer place, especially for those with a wood quest of some sort.

The real world already has it's share of people devoted to pissing contests.  Maybe Glitch can do a bit better than that.

  • Yeah, right.  'Championing Wood Trees' is a pissing contest all it's own.  Get real, folks.  There's a Pro and a Con.  Both sides are weeing quite a bit.

  • No. Just more weeing. Don't you see it? There is no right side. Just a lot of strutting.

No matter how much you band together to reinforce each other.

A balanced regular player would not have started or joined a thread
like this one. You are here for the fight and are half the problem.
Posted 11 months ago by Kalstept Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Isn't it interesting how some people seem to take a simple difference of opinion as some sort of personal insult?  Well, no, actually, but it is somewhat fun to see the resultant name calling and posturing!

According to Zog's tracking tools, Wood trees have generally numbered in the 20s to 30s for the past few weeks, and I hope all the wood quests can be satisfied with those.  Even so, I'm going to continue planting (approaching 50 trees so far) as I wander.   Thank you all for your support! I've plenty of fertilidust and seeds, but mood boosting drinks would be welcome.  Cosmopolitans are good for shaking off the Poisoning Guilt, for example.

So have fun and Spread the Wood!
