New Upgrades for Inventory Management

Hey everybody. We have just released 2 new upgrades to help with inventory management: Stack Up and Internal Sortitude.

Stack up will combine non-maxed item stacks in your pack to minimize the space used by all of your items.
www.glitch.com/upgrades/per...

Internal Sortitude will allow you to categorize your bags. If a bag is categorized, any items you acquire that match that category will automatically go in (assuming there's space). For example, you can categorize a bag for emblems and any emblems you pick up will automatically go in that bag. The categories will not prevent you from doing what you want; you can still place whatever items you want in whatever bag you want, but the game will be smarter at where it puts new items picked up.

Once you've acquired these upgrades, the options will become available in the bag's menu.

Enjoy,
Tim

  • Could stacking up my bags ALSO make all stacks moves to the left most side of the bag?  Other than that, I love this!

  • Looking forward to trying sortitude, though I have to agree that I'd like to have an option for multiple categories for one bag with a multiple selection option.  Hope I can remember to pass on stack up, since I often put one item of things in certain bags to reserve that spot for a stack of something (which was my way of sorting items previously).

But I know so many are very happy with these options...so as usual, thanks TS for listening!!

  • how come jewels aren't going to the mining category bag?

  • By category, do you mean single item like "allspice", or is there something "trant" which will grab spice / eggs / gas / fruit?
Posted 4 months ago by Sturminator IX Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Sturm - more like the latter; there are preset catch categories like tree stuff and manufacturing stuff.

  • b3achy, do *buy* the stacking one even if you don't use the "stack" command, it's a prereq for sortitude.

  • Gameshow, race tickets and Diabolical drink tickets aren't considered to be cards, but tickets to special levels are.  That seems slightly counter-intuitive

  • Woohoo! As someone with a slighly ocd personality, I thank you! \o/

Although I have to agree with other posters, being able to select from a checkbox and customise what goes into each bag would be awesome. :~)

I do like the checkbox option suggested though. Full customization. Maybe a 3rd upgrade card? :D

  • +yay to the effect

+boo to the fact that it comes as upgrade cards, particularly in the case of auto-filling a specified bag.  I say this because things that have the feel of smoothing UI issues rather than modifying core game mechanics are unsatisfying as upgrades (subjectively, obviously; ymmv).  As an extreme example illustrating what I'm trying to get at, consider if the only movement keys were 'y', 'z', 'p', and '1' and you had to buy and upgrade or upgrades to unlock 'wasd' and the arrow keys.

  • Good show; thanks!

One question, though: does this address the current problem of leaving partial stacks in unregulated slots/bags when a spot opens up in a regulated bag?

For example, spices normally stack to 200, but if you have your Spice Rack filled with Allspice, then start grinding en masse, you will get partial stacks in regular bags as spots open up in the Spice Rack.

We'll have to see how Stack Up does in this case too. Is it going to take the 100 spices in your regular bag and merge them into the 100 stack in your Spice Rack or the opposite? (I would test this, but those upgrades haven't come up for me yet; still getting nothing but tickets and energy tank upgrades.)

  • @Janitch "Is it going to take the 100 spices in your regular bag and merge them into the 100 stack in your Spice Rack?" That's exactly right. Stacks in specialized bags will be topped first.

  • Glad it's finally here, a classic from the ideas forum indeed^^

"things that have the feel of smoothing UI issues rather than modifying core game mechanics are unsatisfying as upgrades"

I agree with Morthis on this, why an upgrade card? o_O
Are you making sure the newbies get annoyed enough with the bag management so they can leave the game before being able to get the upgrade?
Posted 4 months ago by Lemo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It makes sense to me that they are upgrade cards. Consolidation of stacks and having smart bags are definitely nice to have, but they aren't required to play the game. It's an upgrade to basic bag functionality, and I don't mind spending iMG on it, just like I spent iMG and supplies to upgrade my tower.

  • is it just me or can you organize a bag into oblivion?  i'm not sure what i did wrong but i can't find my herb bag and i've searched everywhere i can think of.  and this was before i had a glitchy drink.

  • Thanks everyone!

Those of you who are asking for finer-grained control (checkboxes, etc.) — that might happen sometime in the future, but the current implementation is much simpler for complex reasons (and it has the benefit of already being done).

There is also another upgrade coming ("Magic Sort") which will automatically swap all your items around to the correct specialized bag if they get out of order (which can happen pretty easily if all your generic bags are full).

  • Also, how some things are a little off. Like potions are apparently not considered alchemy, and fiber not associated with cloth.

  • I'm still getting used to this, but I think in the long run I'm going to really like it. I just have to readjust my way of thinking, and figure out what's most important to me to get put somewhere specific. I don't think I want EVERYTHING to sort, but there are some things that I would like to be put away neatly because I won't need them while I'm out wandering Ur, like ticket cards and music blocks. Go sit in your bag til I get home and can unload you. I like that

  • Magic Sort is now released: www.glitch.com/upgrades/per...

It'll be useful so you don't have to do what I did a few days ago (drop everything and then pick it back up — especially bad since the order in which you pick stuff up again matters).

Also, we'll tweak a few of the classes (all the upgrade cards together, fiber with fabrics, etc.) and probably introduce some new ones soon.

  • I'm totally confused about these options:
    Sort: Staples A+B
    Sort: Staples A
    Sort: Staples B

I initially thought that A and B were variables that we could assign to categories or items of our own choice, but I don't see a way to do this. So what are staples A and B?
Posted 3 months ago by Dr.Maud, Obviously Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ Dr.MaudGonne: When you open the bag and hover over the category, a description of what can go in the bag is at the top of the list. The bag can still be named whatever you want, but if a certain category is selected, only the items in that category will be automatically placed in the bag.

    Staples A: meat, grain, milk
    Staples B: spice, bubbles, beans....
    Staples A + B: any/all of those items.

  • Thanks for Magic Sort!!  I love it! With all 3 upgrades, inventory management is not perfect, but it is much better and much easier.  Now I can get everything cleaned up again.

Now if my real-life house were only so easy to organize.

p.s. Could we maybe get some more bag colors someday?
