The paned interface on the right

I know that you guys are just starting off here, but it's really weird switching contexts like that. They look like they collapse as well (ie. that if you click on the next tab down, the top up will go to the top of the screen) but they don't.

There are so many things going on here I love, but I found that interface strange.

  • Agreed - it looked like the right panels would have typical "accordion" behavior and I was somewhat confused when they didn't.

  • It would be lovely if you could have a smaller amount of information from each section visible simultaneously, so I can have my quest info open without falling behind on global chat.

  • agree with ben.

it was frustrating to manage these panels, and i'd often be "late" to IMs because the notification wasn't apparent enough.

  • This is a legacy bit of early UI that hasn't been redesigned yet, but it sure is going to be (redesigned). (The inventory is the same way: a redesign is coming there which will support the use of bags to contain items of different kinds and give more capacity: the game logic supports it and we have a UI designed – it is just not in yet).

In the case of the right panel, we are still sorting out the best approach. The quest log will move to your "familiar" (which is currently the pet rock). IMs will most likely float in their own windows. There will not be global chat for much longer (once we start inviting 250 or so people at a time, it will be too much too hectic, so there will be location chat only).

The growl-like notifications ("so-and-so entered"; "you peted a pig", etc.) which currently get copied in to the activity log on the opposite side of the screen will probably show up in a small version of an always-open activity log with a highlight that fades after a few seconds.

So, I think everything here can be addressed. However, the one thing that we haven't considered which was brought up here is the idea of having the quest logo info always open and visible. We'll think on that! In the most recent proposed design (not yet implemented for you), it is in a floating window which would be too large to have open all the time.
