Furniture auctions and auction posting upgrades

Hey everyone,

Because there's nothing like giving you new things to play with right before a 3-day weekend, we have just released the ability for you to auction any furniture you may have made. Hurrah! Note: you cannot auction any furniture that's "soulbound" (i.e., the stuff that came with your house).

In addition, your inventory is now better laid out in the auction posting screen, so that you don't need to remember which bag you put that pesky stack of no-no powder in.

The auction posting dialog itself has had a bit of a facelift, with some new features to make it easier to judge the market for your particular items.

Finally, we've revised the prices charged for auctions. Good news: no more pesky 8% commission. Bad news: the listing fee has increased to 7%. The minimum listing fee remains 3 currants.

I believe that's all the details for now. If I've forgotten anything, I'm sure someone will step in and remind me.

Happy auctioning!

  • GRR! I HAVE A PROBLEM! :D
Got so excited, I hurried to sell some. When I try and enter a price, 500 currants for example, NaN pops up before the number making it look like "NaN500". Therefore, not allowing me to sell items at all because that number can not be recognized.

  • Awesome :) I approve.

  • I'm Chris: Gah! We'll take a look at that as soon as possible.

  • Me too I'm Chris. Can't get the NaN to go away.

Also, someone created a great spreadsheet of furniture costs - very helpful in creating auction prices. Will try to find the original thread.

  • Ouch, Serra, that sounds painful! Auction some of it off, quick! ;)
Posted 7 months ago by hitherto Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That is great!

Not only is a more organized way to auction stuff its a quick and easy way to get a picture of exactly what is in all your bags.

  • I'll be keeping that auction page open on a separate tab from now on.
Posted 7 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • much quicker than using search on bags.  Search works fine but its nice to see it all on one page.

  • LOL, hitherto!!
Auction looks very nice and very easy to find what you're looking for!
Congrats on another job well done!! (((HUGS)))

  • This sounds stupid, but maybe a, "view highest priced item" would be a neat filter option? That way you can check out the high-priced-upgraded items first.
Posted 7 months ago by Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hm, nothing happens when I click on an item to auction it. Am I doing something wrong?
Posted 7 months ago by Sally Slingshot Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So what causes there to be 'extra upgrades' with some items but not others?
Posted 7 months ago by MarbhDamhsa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • MarbhDamhsa: if you upgrade a furniture item and then later decide to change the style to another upgrade, that piece of furniture "remembers" the previous upgrade so you can switch back again for free if you change your mind (this is a change we made during testing, before requiring real credits for furniture upgrades). As a result, a single piece of furniture can have multiple upgrades even though only one style can be visible at a time.

  • Sally Slingshot: our crack interface-wrangling engineer is in transit right now, but I'll get him to have a look at it for you.

MarbhDamhsa: the upgrades on a given item are down to what the furniture's previous owner chose to add. Every time you "Change style" on an item of furniture, it remembers all the previous styles that you've added, and they all come along for the ride when an item is auctioned or traded.

In the auctions interface we only show you styles that cost credits, since you can add the freely-available styles any time you like!

  • Love, love, love the new "What Do You Want To Auction" layout!  Awesomely easy to find things.
Posted 7 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Is there any way to tell if a piece of upgraded furniture has more than one upgrade?  Or did you assume that all furniture will only carry a single for-credit upgrade?

    Edit:

Never mind.  Even more amazing solution to this problem than I could have hoped for!

  • Awesome changes. I like how seeing the current auction prices might help reduce the overpricing of some items.

Now, will cubimals (unboxed ones) be allowed on the auction soon.  Please. :)

  • I am such a hipster. Knew about this before the forum topic was made. Like a good few minutes before it was made. :puts on hipster glasses:
@Djabriil: of course! No lenses are soooo mainstream! Instead, I put them up to a match. That did the trick. Hard to see but clearly a hipster

  • Sally Slingshot: it looks like you're using an older browser like Internet Explorer 7.  We will do our best to make sure that everything works for you in the browser of your choice, but it may take a little while to get to it.  In the meantime, can you give a newer browser like Internet Explorer 8 or 9, Firefox, or Chrome a try? I think that will solve your issue.  Thanks for the feedback!

  • I'm not sure where the best place for this is, but it seems that we can't upgrade doors at all to auction any but the default styles.  (The problem is not with the auction, it's with the doors - but I didn't notice until we had a mechanism to sell them!)
Posted 7 months ago by Fleep Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Fleep, yea I hope they change that, I couldn't even trade, so i'm hoping it gets changed too.

  • @hitherto- Very painful, many splinters!

  • It seems to set the per unit price as whatever is currently the lowest, which is great.

I'd like to still be able to see what the list price is, so I can see if selling something is profitable or not.

    BUG:
Something is screwy with selling tools and other items (with progress bars)  because of the "per unit of wear" pricing, it's trying to make me sell things for 1c

  • im having difficulty using the search engine now.  Basic items are not showing up when i type them in such as wall segments and metal rods  I ended up refreshing the auction page and that worked but if I was browsing in the furniture and then went to look at the going price for another item it failed to find them at all.
Posted 7 months ago by Soytoy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • ok, i think i found the workaround ~ go to the latest auctions tab first and then type in the item. otherwise if  looking at beds lets say and then try to go back to basic items and use search engine it cant find things.
Posted 7 months ago by Soytoy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • is there going to be a way to upgrade doors before auctioning them? right now you can't :(

eta: right now you can't if you have a 3-floor house, i mean

  • Not sure if this has been mentioned previously or elsewhere...
I think to avoid confusion about their function, Counters should be categorized under Tables, not Cabinets.
Posted 7 months ago by Becky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 Becky
Posted 7 months ago by Miss Bobbit Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But counters are cabinets, you can put things in them

That's the better function than being able to put things on them

edit: I was confused with small cabinets
Posted 7 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 to Becky!

I was going to say exactly the same thing. Counters do not store items internally. They are most definitely NOT cabinets. If all items that could have things placed ON them were cabinets, most of the furniture would be in the cabinets category.

  • Umm... three day weekend?
Posted 7 months ago by daniel5457 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm quite sure this was mentioned before, but it's worth mentioning again: The price shown, as well as the default price chosen for auctioning off items with multiple uses like potions is still massively misleading.

The price shown and the default price is per use of the item, while the price you fill in is the price for the item as a whole. This leads to situations where people sell items for 1/5 of the price they intended, which is very bad. Please, make it consistent by changing the price you fill in the price per use of the item.

  • am I doing something wrong?? clicking on the item in my inventory, and the screen scrolls to the top but doesn't move on to the page where I set the amount for auction and price...?
Posted 7 months ago by Wilhelmina Pickles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I can do a unit price with a decimal point in one or two ways now: 1. Modify the total price. or 2) choose an item whose lowest price has a decimal place in it and not delete it as I modify price. The unit price box doesn't allow me to type a decimal point.
Also don't like that clearing the price textboxes results in a 1 inserted. This makes it very hard to type new prices without a 1 appearing at the beginning or end that has to be deleted.
