Blurry avatar pictures on profile pages

Did anyone already notice / mention, that the avatar picture on the profile pages are so blurry? Obviously, it's due to the lower resolution after resizing the image.  Wouldn't it be preferable, then, to leave the image in smaller size and keep a better resolution?
My eyes always stumple upon those blurry pictures, that just don't fit in here...

  • Kuki, my avatar isn't blurry.

Try using Ctrl + 0 while you are on that page and see if that doesn't help.

  • Mine is not blurry either. Can you take a screenshot?

  • Thanks for your answers, but I hit Ctrl + 0 roughly 100 times because I couldn't believe it...

    But as far as my private passion is browser-testing;) I took a look at it with other browsers, and noticed, that it seems to be a problem with Firefox (5.0 in my case) and has something to do with element.style { -moz-transform: scale(-1, 1) }
When I change to scale (1, 1) with the help of firebug, the avatar image stays the same size, only flips horizontally, but the blurriness disappears! Funny, isn't it?

    Which browsers do you use?

What do the CSS-Developer-Glitches think about that?

  • I'm using FF 5.0 with no problems

Try clearing your cache.  If that doesn't solve it, try clearing the cache in your router by turning it off for a few minutes and turning it back on.

  • Ooh I see now. Checked on FF (on Linux) and the home page avatar was blurry. Not on the profile page, it's the full size one.
All pages look fine on Chrome.

  • I'm thinking this thread should be moved to bugs. There's obviously some CSS issue.

  • Yeah, you're right. How can one move a thread?

I really think there must be a some browser issue somewhere. As I said, I also tested on all major browsers, and everything was fine, except with FF (and even there it's fine, when I change this one special CSS-property). A little bit, if not VERY strange to me is the fact, that it seems to work with WindBorn's browser and that in your case, Fussycat, it's the home page avatars. In my case it's only the profile avatars.
I'm a bit into web design myself and I'd be really interested in what the CSS3-pros say about that.

  • It's probably a rendering/resize problem with the browser - IE often used to cause images not to display properly because of problems with PNGs.

  • Yeah, IE....., but, strange to say something like that, but in this case IE performs great! ;)

  • I'm not sure this is a CSS issue, but rather a Firefox issue, maybe OS-specific since it uses different backends to render graphics. I can file it with them (I used to work there).

Kuki: What OS are you on?

Windborn: What OS are you on?

(I imagine you're on different OSes.)

  • That's a very likely assumption, and yes, it must be a FF issue.
I'm working (or, em, also playing, at times...) on Windows XP

  • I don't think anyone but staff can move or even close a thread, just FYI. :S
