HHHAAATTTEEEE IIIIITTTT

The new mining that says "You cannot mine while another player is mining".  Who does this benefit?  Absolutely nobody.  The people (like myself) who believe rocks are public and should be shared: well for us its just damn annoying.  Rocks should be shared.  But for those of you who feel that the rock has become your property to mine: now someone who can click faster and has the same mining level as you can steal the entire rock from you.  SO again, who does this benefit? Absolutley nobody.

  • Lmao, I noticed it, too.

It does benefit people like me that like to mine a rock to the fullest. Though, once someone leaves a rock, other people are free to mine it. Pretty cool, lmao.

  • Also, I noticed it seemed to be a compromise. Like I said, it's not like no one else can mine the rock. It's just that no one else can mine it right when someone else is mining it.

Another group of players it benefits (as it rightfully should): new players. Players with the Mining I skill take quite a while to mine a rock. I remember when I had that level and higher-level crapheads would mine the last bit while I was just trying to get some of it. Now, at least newer players can claim a little more of the rock and it really balances things out.

EDIT: Also, people who click faster... I mean I really doubt some people are that slow to click, unless they're REALLY out of touch with technology or have some sort of impediment (in which case they usually utilize special technology which puts them on par with everyone else).

  • @Cerulean: It does not fully benefit you.  Basically anyone can run up to you while you are in between mines and take the rock from you.  You have to button mash to save your rock from other people.  It makes mining WAY  more competitive than it was before because if multiple people are competing for the same resource, they will have to button mash and hope that they get the rock first.

  • What do you mean by "take the rock from you", the rock is not your own. It just happens to be on the street and you just happen to be mining it. There is no shortage of rocks. I went through several streets earlier where nobody else was mining. All the rocks were "mine".

  • @Fussy: just because you were mining while it wasn't crowded doesn't mean that there aren't other times or places where there are a lot of people trying to mine several rocks.  I say "my rock" because there is no better word to use.  I have always been of the opinion that rocks are public property and do not belong to anyone, and all should be free to mine when and wherever they please.  But I need to say "my rock" so that I can distinguish that it was a rock I was mining at and someone else came up to the rock.

In the first 15 minutes of me logging in I had someone come up to a rock I was mining and while I was click on the rock to begin mining again someone came up and started mining.  Then when I tried to mine as well I got a message saying that "Someone else is mining this rock".  So the point of setting this system up was because a group of people were continually bitching about how they think its rude for someone to mine a rock they are mining on.  My point is that now the same problem exists: other people can come up to the rock you are mining and begin mining that rock.  On top of it, someone can come to the rock you were at and not only mine on that rock, but "take" (for lack of a better word) the rock away from you blocking you out of mining.

This is going to make mining in areas with many players and few rocks very competitive.  The same problem still exists: other people can mine the rock you are at.  But now its a competition to see who can click the fastest and get the mining started first.  It's taken something very simple and made it more complicated and created aggression and competition.  I have never had a problem with sharing and this not only removes the option to share rocks with other people, it causes unneccessary tension.

  • I know it doesn't fully benefit me but I really do believe it helps lower-level players, who probably need to rocks more than the rest of us. Also, I think it helps to encourage people ASKING if they can also mine the rock with you.

  • Meh. Whatever. There's plenty of rocks, and plenty of other things to do.

If your mining area is crowded, do one of two things:

    1) Do something else for awhile until it thins out.
    2) Go find a quieter place to mine.

If all you do is try to mine the high traffic areas, it will be an issue. If you're sensible, you'll just go for a walk. I'm currently in the caverns. There is NOBODY here right now. Why are you whining about being blocked mining, when you can just go for a walk and find a place with nobody else around?

  • I'm not upset about the crowding, I'm upset that there are limits put on something in this game.  I also think that it can only create more aggression and tension than there was before.

  • We are currently looking at ways to address problems resulting from the recent mining change. Never fear!

  • Well sometimes the limits of the game make it more fun, or keep thing from getting out of hand. 100 quoins per game day. 1000 favor per game day. Zen. Etc. It keeps players in check and helps people really figure out how to make the best of the game. And, again, in this case, the limits seem to help those that need it most. Maybe there should be a mining cap for each player, just as there is a cap for many other things, to keep players from getting tense and moving onto other things aside from mining, and freeing up rocks for others; I'm suggesting this in place of two people not being able to mine the same rock twice, though I actually do like the way things are now, as well.

And thanks, Pinot. I'm looking forward to seeing what the Devs come up with! :D

  • @Cerulean: In regards to "I mean I really doubt some people are that slow to click, unless they're REALLY out of touch with technology or have some sort of impediment (in which case they usually utilize special technology which puts them on par with everyone else)."

We often don't, actually.  My hands randomly have muscle spasms.  When I'm using a mouse, that means that it tends to throw the mouse cursor well away from where I want it to be.  There's no special technology that can fix that for me, unless I want to spend thousands that I don't have on a brainwave reading system that may or may not work well.  As a result I generally prefer to play games that don't require me to have really fast responses (what's generally called "twitch-gaming").  For the most part, Glitch doesn't require me to have significant precision in what I'm doing or is forgiving of mistakes.  Before this change, all I really had to worry about was jumping -- the rook quest and amazing race are challenging, but I can experience a vast amount of the game without finishing those if I can't manage it.   Mining, however, is central to multiple skills and one of the best ways to make money.  I don't want to be locked out of it because I literally can't click fast enough.

Also, it probably sucks for people on dial-up.  (They do still exist!)

  • Where are you all trying to mine that you're in constant competition for every rock? I've made enough mining to set up in the largest Alakol house and still retire early, and I can count on one hand the number of times someone has tried to mine a rock out from under me. Is it annoying when it happens? Sure. But then just splank 'em if you feel the need, and move on to another area. You can find rocks in more spaces than just the caverns, you know, and you won't be nearly so crowded - not to mention, you won't have to worry about your clicking speed.

  • I'm with Tally - I was just now running through Alakol for a project and ran by so many rocks that had absolutely no one on them. I think people are becoming a tad comfortable with what they're doing, and are less willing to change when the circumstances change (more people come in, the mechanics change, etc). It showed itself to begin with when it became too crowded for people to adapt, and instead of learning how to adapt they became upset over their mining route becoming crowded, and now it's worse because the mechanics are working against them.

  • It's not that its been super crowded, but people have bummed off a rock I was mining at a handful of times already.  There was several rocks around.  Don't ask me why they did it, ask them.

  • And again, I would PREFER to share my rock then get locked out by someone else just passing through.

  • Shhh, don't tell them there are rocks outside the caverns...more for me... ;)  Actually, that's what I've been working on documenting for myself...where a single rock or two is located in an out of the way place, so I can go an mine there to my heart's desire...Shockingly there are even a few rocks in Groddle Meadow, if you know where to find them ;)
