Bureaucratic Hall...

...is a great idea but seriously underused and I think after a couple of visits nobody really needs to go back into these places.

I know this might sound a bit daft and I'm not a fan of real bureaucracy but how about creating a housing tax. Glitches owning property  would have to physically go into one of the halls to pay these taxes on a regular basis (every 2-3 weeks?). Taxes could be worked out on house value, number of trees/pigs/chickens etc.

Not massive amounts but the payments would have to be dropped off in person. Failure to pay would drop your property price by a percentage until you'd cleared your outstanding debt.

Might make the property market a bit more interesting too, imagine getting a 50k house cheaper because the owner never bothered to pay their taxes.

  • I suspect the moment we have customizable housing, the Bureaucratic Hall is going to become heavily trafficked!

  • @Geezereth: Not to rain on your parade (my apologies), though property taxes paid in person would generate more traffic to these underused (imo) areas, there is the potential for difficulties concerning those Glitchen who aren't in-world very often...what happens if the unpaid taxes accumulate into a deficit? Would their properties then become foreclosed? Held in trust until sale by what entity? I think this might be hard to moderate...unless some sort of Capping System were implemented...

Instead, why couldn't the Bureaucratic Halls double as, say, impromptu meeting places—like town halls or community rooms? They would be great places to stage demos, or even hold small get-togethers and the like...I'm sure this has been mentioned in other threads...

  • @Dahlia: Yeah thats all valid, no problem.
Really my main point before I started rambling on about a property tax was how to get the Bureaucratic Halls busy again. Currently their chief purpose is to frustrate, but in an amusing way. I'd like to see that game element extended somehow.
