What new feat?

I just got a notice from God that a new feat has begun. Does anyone know hat it is?

  • heh, my newbie boyfriend had to tell me what the heck a conch was :3

  • I was offline for less than 2 hours.  Returned to find feat had come and gone already.  So sad, I was really looking forward to a group thing :(

  • One day my hope is that a feat will actually be on during different time zones like Stoot promised.
Posted 83 days ago by Cleops Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Cleops — this was just our second one. We're still testing them out (and will be for a little longer). It's just harder to test if we make everyone stay up till four in the morning :)
Posted 83 days ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, I learned about it while at work, came home, and it was over!  That was a bit of a let down.
Posted 83 days ago by Caiyot Subscriber! | Permalink
  • No kidding.  I'm still at work.
Posted 83 days ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks Stoot:) Makes me a little happier. Have you considered staggering feats in parts over a 24 hours period. Stage 1: play conches, Stage 2: play them for x amount of other people, etc.

It would avoid a lot of disappointment and be more inclusive.
Posted 83 days ago by Cleops Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I share in the pain. I just came on and discovered I missed it. :-(
Posted 83 days ago by gworley3 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you're just testing them out, why do you need to give out rewards that there is no other possible way of obtaining? img/favour/currants I don't particularly care about, but I as I said last time I feel it's unfair to be handing out pieces of an ancient artifact in this way.
Posted 83 days ago by juv3nal Subscriber! | Permalink
  • There were personal rewards for contributing glitchen??

    Like, what? And where?
Posted 83 days ago by Sororia Rose Subscriber! | Permalink
  • juv3nal: this is just the second feat we've done — there will be feats going regularly once we're done testing and each one will give people a chance for the artifact pieces.
Posted 83 days ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • An new region? It will be called Firozi? It will be located between Grumbla and Plains Archipielago (the temporal name I give to Sura,Cauda and Fenneq regions).
Posted 83 days ago by Arthur13 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 juv3nal

While still in the testing phase, I'm not so sure that handing out items that may potentially become very rare is the best reward.

A 24 hour Feat that is done in 30 mins needs some work.
Killed my laptop but it was fun.
Posted 83 days ago by Mr Mellifluous Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I know its still testing, but that was over way quick. Although the amount of flash crashes maybe it was good it was over quickly?

One thing I would like to mention is that with the lag several people accidentally dropped their conch. Maybe if we are going to use a special item in future it could be locked to the person for the duration of the feat?
Posted 83 days ago by Teena Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree Teena, lock the special items would be a great ideal , I dropped mine because of lag
Posted 83 days ago by GarthBnut Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yep all over too quickly IMO
Posted 83 days ago by Titchy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Over much too quickly. I missed out on this one, too, so I've yet to participate in one. Frowny face.
Posted 83 days ago by Tonya Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Now there are significant rewards - artifact pieces!! These will only be given out once you've got the whole feat routine figured out or from the end of today's 30min chance to take part feat?
Posted 83 days ago by Cleops Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You might need to add a zero or two to the right of the amount of "x" to reach the feat next time, dontchathink? What I´m trying to say is I WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FEATS WTH GUYS STOP DOING THEM SO EASY AND LET US ALL GET A PIECE OF THE CAKE AAAAHHHHH *faints*
Posted 83 days ago by Mikah Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well, in this case there was a bug which caused over-counting which we're still trying to track down. But yes - bigger, future, got it.

  • Sweet!

  • Very badly managed event TS.

    A) Lets not base a feat on something that half the population didn't get, didn't know how to get, or was unable to get because of a lock down timer on the quest.

    B) Lets not make feats that requires all players in the game to spam other players on the same map as the fastest way of achieving points.

    C) 27k plays, didn't we just have this same problem before with a feat ending too soon because it wasn't long enough? Why didn't you give yourselves the option to extend the event this time, so that you can actually figure out the correct amount of time to keep these open?

    D) I also have to somewhat agree with someone above that said, "If you're just testing them out, why do you need to give out rewards that there is no other possible way of obtaining?" I get that it's beta, but these items do have value, huge value, you potentially bestowed millions of currants upon a few players that were able to participate, and click the most. Not exactly fair for this feat. [Edit: Aedus has a great idea to solve this problem below]

    E) I didn't lose a conch, because I didn't have one to lose. But I see many players dropped theres and are now being told, too bad, dropped items are fair game. TS, please make an exception for those players who lost their conchs today if at all possible. It's not unheard of to mistakingly drop an item, and in that stampede it would have been impossible to get it back.

  • I totally missed the part about the ancient artifact, wouldn't have finished what I was doing when the feat started but I expected I would have more than 15 minutes to particpate, lol

  • I think it was fun!  Thanks TS, can't wait for more.  :)

  • One other problem, for people with bad lag and older PC's there will never be a hope in hell to get anything with the first past the post system.

    Just sayin'
Posted 83 days ago by Mr Mellifluous Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ramus - I agree with many of your points - but to complain that ppl couldn't participate because they needed to have completed another quest first is downright silly.

I don't see a problem with needing to have obtained the conch first and think of it as a reward to those of us who have been playing Glitch for many many months.  Which is a good thing...
Posted 83 days ago by Arietty Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Arietty - I think the problem is that it was too close to the release of the Esquibeth quest. I know at least 4 people who have been trying to get the quest to trigger since it was released. They have completed all other old and recent quests and have 99% favor with gren and have done millions of walk pasts and are of advanced levels in the game. (don't know whether the latter affects trigger).

So it is pretty frustrating when they can't even contribute even if they were on during those 30 mins due to lack of opportunity to get conch.
Posted 83 days ago by Cleops Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Apparently the completion of this quest would make the devs to create an new land,Firozi.
Posted 83 days ago by Arthur13 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The Good:
    - The Quest leading up to the Feat was awesome. Excellent job on that!

    - Yeeeaaah....

    The Bad:
    - The spacing between the first chance to get the quest to obtain the conch and when the feat started was too small. A number of people could not get their conch in time to even participate.

    - The spacing of options on the conch; "Drop" should probably not be next to "Play for"

    - Limiting unique rewards to the top players on the leaderboards. While I respect the fact that the devs wish to reward people who really got into the feat, the current leaderboards represent those players who clicked the most. This may change as the feats evolve beyond the present "Click the same option over and over" model. If so, great! If not, then I fear we will see the same players for the most part continue to monopolize the top slots to the detriment of other players. Perhaps a system could be implemented in which players are granted credits or tokens for participating in feats; the more the player participates, the more credits they receive. Those credits could then in turn be used to purchase rewards. The players who contribute the most would get the most credits and the rewards quicker, but the players who cannot or will not match them still get a chance for those items.

    The Ugly:
    - Overcrowding and stability issues; multiple players reported multiple crashes due to the high number of glitchen congregating in a few areas for this feat. In the future, it would probably be a good idea to design feats in which players are encouraged to disperse to numerous locations.

    - As briefly discussed previously, this feat rewarded repetitive behavior. To give the devs the benefit of the doubt, this is most likely due to the fact this is the second feat they've put together. I hope in the future, feats are designed to have multiple diverse conditions that must be met before completion. What if instead of playing the conch over and over, some glitchen had to work together, playing one note at a time, to re-create the conch music, while others could supply offerings of bubbles, while other could make drinks or potions or food or statues as offerings! Just a thought.

    - Loosing irreplaceable items: anything that cannot be replaced should not be easy to accidentally drop. There are options to allow dropped items to only be picked up by their owners; this should be applied to any item like the conch which is both a one-time item and essential for the feat!

    - Length and opportunity: The devs have indicated they are aware that these feats are incredibly short, and will take steps to address that. That being said... this one was done under an hour, and it's not hard to see why: players could spam the conch option quickly, and players will congregate to high traffic areas when presented with situations where they need to interact with as many other players as possible.

All in all, this feat did not live up to the epic and grand feel the quest preceding it had, which is a shame in and of itself.

  • Glad I was lucky enough to participate in another feat test :). As for the short time frame, it was mentioned a little during the last feat how it helps to have the staff awake and on the job for the duration of the feat. But also, this feat had a couple bugs, apparently (conch was probably meant to be played only once at a time, see here), which made it go by particularly quickly.

Also, for me, I'm glad that this new set of rare items is being handed out as quickly as possible. The more of them that are in the world, the less rare/expensive they become, which means they are easier for average players (i.e. those not winning feats) to obtain. For the future, I just hope the Feats are often, or even constant (like: every/every-other glitch-week brings a new quest, every glitch-year repeats the quests).

  • And I agree completely with Aedus. I'm really disappointed with the direction feats seem to be heading. I participated in this one, but if the next one is just a spam "such-and-such" as quick as you can type quest to maybe get some special reward, I have no plans to even participate. It's not fun. Even with this one I just kept staring at the clock hoping it would be over soon, as I deeply resented being forced to play nonstop at such a mundane activity as clicking "Play for" over and over until the feat completed to have any chance at the mysterious artifact reward.

Bah! I'm going to vent with some good ole' fashioned chicken squeezin'.

  • +1 to Aedus, much better put than what I wrote and I agree on every single point. The token reward system is a brilliant idea, award us based on our contribution more or less tokens, have some kind of vendor that gives out rewards for exchange of tokens. It would be more like rift public quests, where it doesn't matter if you are the best, if you contribute you get something towards a bigger prize.
Posted 83 days ago by Ramus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeh, I kindof really am irritated that this was done during a week day, while many were at work, taking care of kids, living life, etc....and could not participate. Then BAM it was done. And now I read that those that spammed the horn at others the most (congrats Fyo!!), and happened to be on line for it, will get an artifact?

These need to be done for a full 24 hrs, give everyone a chance to log in and participate (especially other time zones). Make the feat HUGE as well.

  • I love these feats...but have to say that, imho, they shouldn't be set-up with a specific # of times within a particular time frame (we all know that it'll never last as long as it's suppose to lol)...but maybe just set a time frame, say maybe a week, and let the individual #'s show (just not be part of when the feat will end...only count towards the "prizes" when it's over)
That way everyone can join in the fun and be able to vie for the rewards.
Posted 83 days ago by sgjo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Great idea sgjo.  Would even be happy with a feat that lasted a full day instead of over a week...and like that the total amount would be somewhat random, and possibly telling of how they should scale future feats...

  • Fun!

In response to what other people said here...

    1. I don't think there was anything unfair about doing a feat when not everyone had a conch yet. Do you think the world is going to wait for everyone to catch up? No. Besides if EVERYONE had a conch and EVERYONE could have participated, then there would have been an even bigger problem with...

    2. ...the quest ending too soon and being too crowded. This I agree with. Instead of provoking a mad, laggy click-fest, how about:

    - limiting the amount of conch plays in a period of time (thus extending the time needed to complete the quest)
    - disallowing glitchen to play the conch for the same person twice in a row, or twice in a given period of time (this would also mean less useless clicking that doesn't count towards the goal.)
-introducing a cap for conch-playing for each street (if it got too crowded or too noisy, the local  vendor could chase everyone away with a broom, complaining about the racket giving him a headache. Glitchen would be expelled to random streets and have to recongregate in order to continue with the quest)

    3. The repetitiveness. A minute or two of mass-conch playing is fun, but after that it's only good for click-addicts. Boring! Aedus has great suggestions above, which actually sound a lot like what street projects used to be. Make feats more like the old street projects, less like carpal tunnel triggers.

    4. The 'Drop' option in the menu. If you DO insist on feats that require clicking like crazy, don't make it so easy for the players to lose objects which they CAN'T get back!! Actually, this is a great idea for an upgrade card: "Lock items: make chosen items undroppable, ungiveable and undonateable."

    5. I don't see how giving out artefacts when we're in beta/ not accounting for lag and timezones/ choosing to do the feat on a weekday/ not making certain everyone and their brother with his kitchen sink had a chance to participate is in ANY WAY unfair.  First of all, beta test of new feature= supposed to be convenient for staff first, players second.  Second of all, if this wasn't a beta, it would be ridiculous to demand that the game always make sure everyone gets a chance at everything. Guys, it's a game. You all got a chance to play- if you couldn't be there, it's because you had more important things to do than PLAY A GAME. And yes, you are making too big a deal about it.

And to end on a nice note, I participated, I had fun ( to a point), I love the idea of Feats, I love the conchified Groddle Theme, and I complain more than I praise because, damnit, you guys already know what you're doing well. :P I like this game and I want to keep on liking it.

Wow, that was fast, can't believe I missed it. That'll teach me to try to get anything done in my actual life. :-P
Posted 83 days ago by Pascale Subscriber! | Permalink
  • When I first read the description of this quest, I assumed that the number we were trying to reach was a certain number of unique glitches who had heard the song.  In other words, as soon as I walk into Cebarkul and someone hits me with the conch, it doesn't matter if all 192 other people in Cebarkul also play it for me.  The ticker won't go up since the first person popped my conch-cherry, as it were, and I'm off the playable-for list.

Though I now realize this was a misunderstanding, I think that structuring a quest this way might be interesting.  It would force players to go out beyond the big hubs to find glitches who haven't been played for yet, which might cure the problem of both mindless clickery and crowd-lag.  It makes people who haven't been played for a "commodity", as it were.  It encourages people to ping long-lost friends online and ask if they want to get together for a listening party.  "Been played for yet?" could be the next big pick-up line.  It still wouldn't appeal to more antisocial type of player, but at least it might not be quite as crowdy and panic-inducing as the 200-glitch Cebarkul was.

Or maybe I just need to learn to read!  It could be that.
Posted 83 days ago by Pale Queen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Pale Queen, I thought it was like that initially, too, and that interpretation would have made more sense given the context of the story. Or if there aren't 20,000 active players, maybe each person only counts once per game day.
