  • It seems you are trying to hold a conversation. Can I help with that?

  • There is a problem with this conversation.  Will the devs fix it?

  • AWESOME!  Ah, the nostalgia... Glitch, circa 1987, maybe? :-D

    >Get the mail
I'm sorry, but you don't have a "the"

    >Look mail
Use prepositions to indicate precisely what you want to do: LOOK AT the object, LOOK INSIDE it, LOOK UNDER it, etc.

    >Look at mail
    You don't have that

    >Check mail
Hey, look at that! Someone has sent you two pieces of mail!

    >Look at mail
    You don't have that

    >Get mail
Your butler hands you two pieces of mail

    >Look at mail
You are holding two envelopes. One is slightly sticky, as though it were recently handled by a very sweaty frog.  Eww.

    >Open mail
You don't have a letter opener.

    >AAAARHGHGHGHGHGHGH!
    I'm sorry, but I don't understand 'AAAARHGHGHGHGHGHGH!'

    >inv
    You have:
    Two pieces of mail
    A battered focusing orb
    A bottle of butterfly milk
    A splitting headache
    No tea.

  • Agreed! Clever butlers would be awesome. =)

And EnnuiStreet, that is too funny. I used to love games like that, as frustrating as they could be. Nice trip down memory lane. =3

  • You are in a maze of twisty little butler responses, all alike.

  • @EnnuiStreet
Now that would hinting towards Infocom's Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy if I remember my IF at all?  =D

  • @Koftun: Yep, mostly.  I played quite a few Infocom games, but that one really sticks with me, partly because I love the books. I have both good/bad memories of about three years of massive frustration with that game, including TWO MONTHS of trying to figure out exactly what I needed to do to get off the planet and then another session or two being stuck in "the dark"... I mean, part of the problem was that I was playing the game at my cousin's house, so I didn't get to play all that often, but it's amazing how eager I was to basically beat my head against a broken-glass-encrusted brick wall.

  • I never played the hitchikers guide games, but I recall many, many, many times being eaten by a grue...

  • I read all the info.  I stepped back and said "Come", no reaction.  I said "C" and got the Camera.  Sigh.  Can I trade it for a mailbox please?

  • Thank you for making me laugh, ennuistreet!  Oh, yes, too funny.  I said to my tiny butler, "I love you" and he said, "Sorry? I think I may have misunderstood what you just said", to which I replied, "I know, I know".  And then I made him dance repeatedly!

...I do like him much more than a mailbox...

  • Brib, you have to type/enter the commands into the IM you get after selecting "Chat" in your botler's menu.

  • EnnuiStreet, that takes me waaaaaaaay back... to Leisure Suit Larry.

  • No tea!  Thanks for taking me back.

  • Overwhelmed by Ancestral Nostalgia! HHGttG and Leisure Suit Larry were the first games I played...and lets not forget King's Quest. I don't miss the graphics, but the quests were really cool in those old games.

  • More chat commands is on the list, and will get done soon.

(And I gave up on the Infocom Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy game after about 57 rounds of "you can see nothing, taste nothing, feel nothing, hear nothing, smell nothing..." Not that I couldn't solve the puzzles, I just couldn't stand going through that any more.)

By the way, you guys should try saying "zork" to your butlers. :)

  • Millie, if I have to click on the Butler and IM him to get him to "Come" what's the point?  I am already face to face with him (which is too close as it is) - Lol!
