Some of the POSITIVE Things About Our Not-So-Private New Home Streets

So, while debate rages on as to whether our home streets are/should be public or private, I thought that perhaps we could focus on some of the positive things about the streets the way they are :)

As I have traveled thru the web of street signs, I have found some awesome glitchy things.

Yesterday, I returned to my home street to find someone taking a little nap. I left them a note.

Here's Splendora's Street.  As part of the Community Kitchen Network, the new housing system has allowed her to share with more people than ever.

And then there's Abby Cadabra, whose street hosts an ever-rotating pile of goods that are free for the taking:

So..there are some of my positives.  What are some of yours?

  • Most simply, I've met people I normally wouldn't have.  And, I've had more time and space to talk to them, because we weren't in a hugely public place.

  • +1 for Soupie
Is it a bed and breakfast only, or do you have other services available?

  • anonymoose--i was in a rush to catch them before they woke up, but for future customers who choose to go afk on my street, I'd be happy to offer the following:

Spa Services-in the form of splanks, hugs, and hot rock (ie shiny object) therapy
Swimming-in the form of a good soaking from my Irrigator 9000
Chauffeur Services-simply click "follow" and you can explore Ur while Soupie drives

  • Hotel Soupie gets 5 Stars!!!

Great ideas!! I'm inspired to show some love on my semi-private street.

  • Ha, if you want a pile of rotating goods, check out my street.
Your internet might crash, though, so be careful over there.
    It's a jungle.

  • Another good thing: i'm having tremendous fun experimenting with the harvest resource route group, I've met many fun glitchen and have tons of new friends, and I love popping in to find someone happily harvesting from the trees! Thanks to Soupie for the positive post!

  • Well I assume the debate is settled right now, since there's nothing we can do to make the private or public.
And we can also do housing routes for gathering resources!

  • Dino's street tries really hard to crash my browser.

I'm also a huge fan of the Housing Resource Routes.  I currently use certain housing blocks for certain resource runs -- losing those 125 close together trees would be a lot more painful if our new streets were fully private.

  • Yeah, I'm totally against private streets, for the reason that the connected routes are awesome. I also love that people can use Gnomes to give out directions at the signpost on their street, so you can figure out where you wanna head before continuing.

  • There are some very clever gnomes, and I have seen a few running jokes among friends, which is awesome.

  • Haha! This is an awesome post, Soupie! Thanks for all the wonderful you contribute to this community! =) And my best experiences have been coming home to piles of gifts left friends (both known and unknown) and trying to figure out ways to pay it forward! =)

  • Very nice!  As long as I have my old house, I would love to be able to open the door of my new house for all to visit.  What fun that would be to leave things at my bar for my "clientele"!

  • Great idea. I'll be happy if anyone adds me, although if you do use my icons you will have to tithe them yourself. Also I have a full set of machines up there for use. Please go ahead and use them :)

  • Thank you, Soupie, for posting this. I love to go around and decorate my friends houses with edibles as it is, and I'm glad that some can come home and find their goodies. I like taking different streets on my friends signposts to see where it leads me, to see if they've got nifty decor on their stoops, and tend their trees.

  • I have a pile of common cubimals out for whoever wants them. I know at least a couple people have come by for that purpose. I also love finding things left by others - like the pile of pineapples next to the one I placed outside my door as a symbol of welcome, or the two chickens that appeared one day.

  • Brib, I never imagined you for a bar maid or a beer wench...but that's what I love about you, lady...you always surprise me, and never cease to amaze me!! (((hugs)))

Love all the great ideas...shame we can only put 5 on the signposts and/or are limited to one sign post per our street...sigh...

Going to whip up some pineapples now...completely forgot they were the sign of hospitality...I just think of them as the running joke in the TV show psych!

  • Omg, I just saw this! Soupie, you're so excellent! Thanks so much for the fruit, and the mention. I feel so loved!

And I agree, a lemonade stand would be AMAZING.

  • Nice post its great to see some positive things said. I felt a little creepy exploring peoples home street. I've only ever visited one. Now I feel better about it and also excited about exploring and maybe meeting new friends. Thank you. :)

  • yay! positive vibes!  I, too, felt weird about exploring other peoples streets (especially since i usually mined their rock while i was there!) but now if they pop in and see me I say something along the lines of "Hi! Hope you don't mind that I'm mining your rock..heres an omelette." lol

  • Wow, shades of FS!  I remember visiting other peoples spheres to see their wonderful decoration styles.  But the ability to leave goodies from my crafting and cooking!  Now thats really cool.  :D

  • There are so many positives.. I love that people we've blocked can't come hassle us at /home.
So I can make a community garden and prevent well-known thieves from coming in and ruining it for everyone else. <3

I'll also have a giant sprawling landscape on which to host my scavenger hunts!  WOOOT!
