Why can't you buy wall or floor coverings?!

I'm a cheapskate and don't want to have to purchase credits but I have a tonne of currants, frustrating.

  • I thought the wallpapers and floor covers were permanent and tied to your account?

  • I wonder the same.

I suggested once at the ideas' forum that maybe we could make wallpaper/floors/ceilings like we make basic furniture, then we'd have a use for paper and we could buy with currants from someone else.

I hope this will happen someday, or something alike.

  • @Lila that's a great idea - customisable

  • Because it costs money to run a game. Servers and all that jazz. If you could buy everything with currants then you wouldn't have the want to subscribe.

Spending credits is a way to entice us to get a subscription and help keep the game running. It's ok if you don't want to subscribe, but those of us who have subscriptions are rewarded with cool skins, hairs, walls, floors, ceilings, and furniture. They haven't left non subscribers completely out though, they've done a few free things as well, they just aren't as cool. I'd say it's worth it, even if only just to help keep the game running.

    Cheers :)

  • @Kittn We all know it costs money to run a game, that's why most of the best stuff requires a subscription, but it does seem a wee-bit silly for something so simple as wallpaper and carpet to cost so much! I know the core concept behind the way TS charges for things is based around the vanity aspect and not gameplay (which is awesome and needs to be implemented by more subscription-based games) but at this point building and decorating is actually a form of gameplay. I subscribe when I can but it's not always possible and I don't think it would cut too horribly much into their bottom-line to make a few more options available for non-subscribers.

And yes, like @Lila said why can't we make these things ourselves? I'm sure that I'm not the only person who thought that we'd finally have something to do with all that paper when they heard about decorating. What are we ever going to do- that's productive!- with the vast amounts of paper we always end up with? Recycling it into wallpaper seems like a reasonable idea to me. You could dye or paint it with colours; some that could be user-created and then a majority of them would be purchasable with cash. As for flooring, well we've got wood and fabric haven't we? Same idea applies there.

  • I don't mind paying for the premium, but a few more low-cost or free wall/floor coverings would be very nice.  Very very nice.  And I know what we can do with paper - eat it.  We can eat planks but not paper???

  • I imagine one reason why wall, floors and ceilings can be sold by players is that they are infinite: Once you buy a pattern, you can use it over and over.

With furniture, if you upgrade say a chair to a design worth 10 credits and sell it, the seller no longer has it.

I suppose on way to do this is that you could "sell" a pattern and if would then remove that pattern from say all of you walls and you, as the seller would no longer have access to it.

They would certainly have to make that super clear when someone was selling a wallpaper or whatever that what was about to happen.

  • Why not just have 'rolls' of paper or carpet to decorate your house then if you choose to sell at a later date you no longer own it?

NB. If I was at home I would subscribe, but at the moment I'm working abroad and it don't always get time to play, so makes no sense!
