Make a Crab Happy Badge

Did you get it? If so how?

There are 5 crabs in game. You can only play one music box per game day to any particular crab.

Do we have to play all 20 to the same crab which means 20 game days and 1 extra for moldiest, in which case best scenario is 21 game days; and worst is 40 game days?
Or can it be any crab? - Best 4 game days, worst 8 game days

What exactly does moldiest mean? Is it the first one you ever played for the a particular crab or any crab? Or is it the first song the crab ever heard? If it is the first song the crab ever heard; is it the oldest song anyone played in a game day or the first song it ever heard in the game?

Sorry for all the questions; but apparently few people got this badge randomly without even playing all 20.

Edit: I posted a very detailed description in the 3rd post of this thread. And the badge now shows up in my achievements ?? I never got a notification for this.

  • Yea, I'd appreciate if a dev could check (if possible) to see how many I've played and if it should have triggered the badge or not.  I have played all 20 blocks to various crabs (not just to one) and then some extras (not sure which is supposed to be the moldiest).  So, a player can't tell if there is a bug here or not.

There are a few other achievements I think I should have reached by now, too, Culinarian Supreme (200 recipes), Might Fine Mulcher (251 weedy patches), Fecundationist (weeded 503 patches) and Gourmand Supreme (1009 meals prepped).  If a house counts toward Money Bags Magoo, then that one as well. ;-)

  • It's a lot more complicated then a single player playing all 20 blocks +1.

    It's more of a luck thing :\
Divine would a better idea/explanation of how it works than I...

  • Since, developers are super busy fixing all the bugs; and adding new stuff for us the enjoy, I am listing possible scenarios and developers just say which one is correct.

    Case 1:

Choice of crab:   It does not matter which crab you play the music boxes to.
Moldiest one:      The first box you ever played. Again it does not matter which crab you play this music box to.
Strategy for the first round:   On any game day visit each crab and play one distinct music box. So in one game day you cover 5 boxes. Next day repeat by choosing from the remaining (the ones you did not play already). That way in 4 game days, you played all 20 music boxes.
Strategy for moldiest:            If you do not remember the first box you ever played, repeat the above process again. Eventually you will end up playing the first box in additional 4 game days.
Minimum time to get this badge:     5 game days.
Maximum time to get this badge:    10 game days

    Case 2:

Choice of crab:   It is one single crab.
Moldiest one:      The first box you ever played for this crab.
Strategy for the first round:  Choose one particular crab in location of your convenience. Each day visit it and play a music box. So in one game day you cover only one box. Next day repeat by choosing from the remaining (the ones you did not play already). That way in 20 game days, you played all 20 music boxes.
Strategy for moldiest:            If you do not remember the first box you ever played, repeat the above process again. Eventually you will end up playing the first box in additional 20 game days.

Minimum time to get this badge:     21 game days.
Maximum time to get this badge:    40 game days

    Case 3:

Choice of crab:   It does not matter which crab you play the music boxes to.
Moldiest one:     The oldest box any particular crab has heard since the dawn of the glitch game. It need not be you; it could have been any player.
Strategy for the first round:   Each day visit all the crabs and play the same music box for all of them. So in one game day you cover only one box; but for all the 5 crabs. Next day repeat by choosing from the remaining (the ones you did not play already). That way in 20 game days, you played all 20 music boxes to all the 5 crabs.
Strategy for moldiest:         Obviously you would not know the first box the crab ever heard in its lifetime. So repeat the above process again. Eventually you will end up playing the first box a crab heard in additional 20 game days.
Minimum time to get this badge:     21 game days.
Maximum time to get this badge:    40 game days

    Case 4:

Choice of crab:   It does not matter which crab you play the music boxes to.
Moldiest one:     The oldest box any particular crab has heard in a game day. It need not be you; it could have been any player.
Strategy for the first round:    Choose one particular crab in location of your convenience. Each day visit it and play a music box. So in one game day you cover only one box. Next day repeat by choosing from the remaining (the ones you did not play already). That way in 20 game days, you played all 20 music boxes.
Strategy for moldiest:         Obviously you would not know the first box the crab ever heard on that game day. Make the street on which the crab is your teleportation location. Ask a buddy to make this their teleportation location too. They should be here just before a new game day starts; and ask them to play a music box you both agreed on and have in your inventories (Example xs-1) . You visit the crab before the game day ends and play the same music box.
Minimum time to get this badge:     21 game days.
Maximum time to get this badge:    Depends. If you do it right you will get it on 21st day. But if someone else plays before your friend, and they don't tell you what they played, then you have to try it next day.

    Case 5:
The code is bugged, and no one knows how this is supposed to work.

  • Thanks gia, well thought out!  I have so many blocks I can't get them organized so I may never get that badge.  I do enjoy the crabs though - LOL!

  • @ Brib, thank you.

I arranged all the music boxes in 2 bags ordered by color and numbers. One bag has DR1-DR5,.DG1-DG5, DB1-DB5; and other has XS1-XS5. So I always have one permanent set of boxes. Any extra boxes I donate or sell. I played the music boxes in order; and kept a note of the ones I played on my computer. I tried Case 1.

I tried creating a note in my inventory; but there is some bug which did not allow me to do so.

  • Strangely, I have this achievement but have no idea how. Since I didn't consciously work on it by keeping track of which blocks I played, and got 2 of the musicblock trophies by picking up someone else's bags (thanks, Dave!)...I think something might be screwed up with the badge, or at least at the time I got it (on April 1, 2011...OMG!...coincidence?).

Or maybe I was just dumb lucky. Wouldn't be the first time.

  • Lol just noticed it shows I received this badge on April 24th. It is impossible I played all 20 of them on or before April 24th.  Sorry devs for bugging you, but at least tell which one is correct case; so it can help us when game goes live.

  • I have blocks in two bags also but as I have so many bags, I dropped the two music bags in my yard.  Now the yard is overrun with animals and their indicators and i can't get much of anything done.  I tried to place all the blocks on the ground so I could arrange them and sort them but can't do that now, too many indicators and the animals love me too much - LOL!

  • I don't think "you" specifically have to play 20 different tunes to the crabs (I sure haven't)...I think that the crab just has to have heard 20 different tunes.
I had just gotten a radio from somewhere in East or West Spice and so I entered Flipside to go donate it when the crab ran up to me to listen to the tune...then I got the award. I didn't even know that there was a crab there coz I rarely have a radio on me unless I'm heading for a shrine or have just received one from a critter or tree.
It's rare for me to even be anywhere that there is a crab because I spend most of my game time in my house and usually go to the closest shrine to donate it when I get one, so it can't be set-up to where you, yourself, have to play a crab 20 different tunes or I would have definitely never gotten the award :D

  • Aaw that explains it sgjo :) Thank you so much.

If the crab needs to hear 20 tunes on same day; that means minimum 20 people should have played different tunes for it before you. If the requirement is on 20 tunes on same day I would say you got extremely lucky.
But if it is the case of the entire crabs life; that means 20 players can just coordinate and play all tunes in 1 day; and from then on anyone who crosses that street and plays music for the crab will get a badge.

  • I've been wrong on how the achievement works 3 times so far, so don't count on this working.  Discounting outsiders, 20 people run through the 20 musicblocks with a crab before midnight.  After midnight, repeat precisely and all 20 get the achievement.

If you have more than 20 people, play the rarest musicblocks last and the extra people can join in the rotation after the main 20 finish their two plays.  When the group is done, they can put the play order in chat so others can pick up the achievement.

BTW, if I'm right, and I doubt I am, what I'm thinking isn't any of the 5 cases.

  • Reading the actual badge now leads me to believe it's RNG.

"Played the exact Music Block for the Crab, which he has heard the LEAST recently."

  • The only way I'll ever get this is through sheer luck...when it happens, it will happen... :)
