I seem to be the only one with this problem - can anyone help?

My problems with the game began as soon as it opened this test.  I clicked on enter the world and the completed opening screen came up.. no animation.. no sign the game was loading.

I refreshed many times, cleared cache, downloaded and installed chrome, tried to enter with chrome and that was when I saw the new game opening animations but still no luck getting in.  Cleared cache again, reloaded again, shut down computer, went to bed, came back and repeated all steps and, after clearing cache one last time I got into the game.

Went through the tutorial and moved to the entry street where game froze on loading.  It got to 100 percent loaded but would not reticulate splines.  Repeated all the above and after another clearing of cache the street loaded.  Was able to move to one or two more streets then game froze again at 100 percent loaded but not reticulating splines so I gave up and shut computer down.

Came back and did some more cache clearing and reloading and eventually got into the game again.  Got the quest that takes you to the Eesti life catalogue page and froze again on 100 percent loaded but no reticulating splines.  Gave up playing again, came back, the problem was fixed and I completed the quest and continued playing.

Explored a few streets and tried to buy a bigger bag.  Opening the transaction page with the hardware vendor resulted in the game freezing again but reloading fixed it.  Went to a different hardware vendor and tried again with same results.  Gave up playing again for a while as my Glitches mood was dropping as if the game was going on behind my frozen screen with my Glitch but without me.

Came back, got someone else to buy the bag for me, and headed off to play again.  Wondered if clearing cache would help with hardware vendor problem so cleared cache and tried again and was able to buy from vendor.

Roamed a few streets then headed off to Ix to collect some spice and froze again at groddle ladder entry page.  Once again the page loaded 100 percent but would not reticulate splines.  I have refreshed and cleared cache and still no luck.

In amongst all this I have been getting random "oops, looks like there was an error" screens which I have been pressing send for each time.  I have also had the problem of avatars showing only as line figures, the gruel a tree gave me was invisible, and some items in the vendors shops are sometimes invisible.

I am at my wits end and the level of frustration I am feeling defies description.

Is this only happening to me?  Is it because Australia is so far away from where the game originates?  Is there anything else I can try to fix it?

As I post this my glitch is steadily losing mood while I stare at the groddle ladder entry page feeling a strong urge to smash something because I can't get in to fix her mood.

For the record, I blame the swfs and I want the old Glitch back!  However long it took the pages to load at least they DID load and did not freeze up on me before :(

  • It sounds more like a connection problem to me.  The route the little packets go between your computer to Glitch and back again to you contains hundreds of servers and bits of the internet that have to get things right.

Blockages sometimes last a day or two.  You might post a bug report asking the devs for an endpoint to use to check your route.

  • I am having some issues as well, it will say part is loaded 100% but then nothing else happens. So i have to leave and enter world again, sometimes 3 or 4 times.

  • @WindBorn - lol if the devs gave me an "endpoint" I wouldn't know what to do with it so no point asking them to. Anyway.. every other site on the internet is fine.. it's just Glitch that I am having trouble with and I never used to have any trouble apart from a bit of lag at times.

@bobzarkoff - that is what is happening to me except this time it doesn't matter how many times I leave and try again it is not fixing itself and it has been a whole day which is why I am feeling so frustrated and upset.

Everyone else is playing and having fun and Glitch is leaving me out in the cold *cries*

  • One thing I have found that seems to work more often is clicking refresh when it starts to hang up. Not sure if it really makes a difference of if its just luck and clicking refresh takes a few steps out. Still not 100% but I've found it works more than the other way. I've also noticed it sometimes flashes up "reconnecting" on the times it gets stuck. I've also noticed some weird things in game such as someone moonwalking past me. I also just too the rook quest and I landed right on a crusher and it didn't crush me. I think it was making up for last time when I was no where near the crusher and it crushed me.

  • When I'm in the game seems to load a lot faster, the problem is getting in and staying in.

  • I am playing from Australia and I'm not seeing any of the problems you mentioned.  It could be that you are having local connection problems but it's definitely not an 'everyone in Australia gets this' kind of thing.
I would experiment and see if the same thing happens with different browsers, check your Flash is up to date, and try some of the free online tools that can check your connection such as speedtest.net/ or www.pingtest.net/ (which will tell you if you are perhaps getting lots of packet loss at the moment).  That will help work out if it's the game or something between the game and you messing things up.

  • @Trowzers - Thanks for the info.  Tried both those sites and pingtest gave me an "A" rating but speedtest said I was slower than 74 percent of Australia.  Went downstairs and tried using my sons cable internet connection and got into the game.  Called my ISP and they had me clear my cache and turn off the machine whilst they reset my connection then they had me go to their site to do a speed test which they said was fine.  When I still couldn't get into the game I went to your speedtest site which showed my speed had actually gone DOWN!

Cried on my daughters shoulder and her IT friend took a look but was unable to fix it.  My daughter connects to the internet on her own computer through my internet service and she suggested I try to connect with her computer to see if the fault was in the internet service or my computer.  Loaded her computer up and was able to connect with her computer for a while but then the problem began again.

Later in the evening, for no reason I can fathom, I got into the game on my machine and was able to play until other commitments required me to log out.

This morning I came back and, once again, the game would not come up.  It kept giving me an error message saying it could not load groddle swf after 3 tries.  Most of the error messages are the same.  Only the name of the swf that can't be loaded changes.  I kept on refreshing until the we are not open sign showed instead of the frozen screen.

The game is closed now but I am hoping someone can help me figure out what is wrong and what I can do about it because I don't want to go through this again when the game opens up next time.

Please, does anyone have any idea what could be wrong???

  • Next step Enola, would be to completely delete Flash from your computer, and reinstall from scratch. If that doesn't do it, you might have more dire issues than just a Flash problem.

  • @Skwid - Thanks for the suggestion.  I will try that but what other dire issues might it be?  My computer died a few months ago and the hard drive has just been replaced along with added memory.  What other possible problems could I be having?

  • Firewall or Virus programs? Try adding the glitch site as allowed. Also check your Flash settings. clear cache the old fashion way, via Internet Options and view files to select all and delete cookies. Also disable any add-ins or browser extensions you do not need. if you are using Firefox, try the 7 beta version. Flash crashes often on FF6. If you are using Chrome, make sure it is updated. After all that if no better, you might need to powercycle modem/router. this will force a newer connection to your internet provider and might be better. How many tabs do you have open? If you use the location checker script, try using on browser for scripts and play in another. I load Chrome with scripts and play in Firefox. Those are all the ideas I have, hope something works for you!

  • @PurpleLogic - Thank you for the suggestions.  My ISP made me clear my cache the way you described and I did get into the game after that was done but played for only a couple of hours, logged off, came back and the problem was back.

I am currently running spybot to check for viruses.  I don't have a firewall or virus programme apart from what is provided in windows 7 professional edition as I got tired of the problems I had with them.

I am using FF 6.0.2 so will search for FF 7 beta and try that.  I downloaded chrome and tried to use it with even less success than I was having in FF so deleted it from my system.

I am also, as Skwid suggested, trying to delete Flash from my system and reload it.

I have run CCleaner to try and clean up my computer and one of the first things I tried was to delete Greasemonkey and all the scripts too in case they were causing the problem.

I just hope I don't end up making a complete mess of my computer lol

  • This thing is happening to me too! I'm also in Australia! I can't even get past the loading screen, yesterday I got into the world, but as soon as that happened the screen froze.

  • This also happens to me. A lot. But since I am aware that my internet speed is kind of blah, I just keep refreshing until I get into the game.

  • -is another Aussie with loading problems- haha
My problem is the world will load, try to take me to a street at gets to anywhere between 60 and 100% before doing the whole "you're been disconnected, we're going to reload the page".
So it does that, and again it happens.
I managed to get on the game for about 2-3hrs earlier today before it started lagging on me so I gave it a break...

I've done all the usual clear cache, switch browser, restart etc etc. The game wont even open the loading screen for me on IE haha...
    Help? D:

  • I called my ISP and they did some stuff at their end, I cleared cache and upgraded to FF beta 7 version as PurpleLogic suggested, and I deleted flash and reloaded it as Skwid suggested and I am currently not having too many problems any more *touch wood*.

I can't offer anyone any additional help but I sure can offer my heartfelt sympathy guys!

  • Just a note-with all this loading and unloading of stuff in your computers, you folks may want to do some "disk cleanup" and "defragmentation". I know all computers are different but mostly these programs can be accessed by going into your Control Panel and System Tools tabs.

  • If you visit Adobe's Flash global storage settings page by clicking this link,  do you see an option named something like "Allow Third-Party Content To Store Data On Your Computer" ?

If so, is the checkbox next to it ticked or unticked? If it's unticked, tick it. There should also be a slider on the same page with either some text or a number to the right of it. What does that text say? If it says 'None', move it to the right until it says '100 KB'.

If those don't fix the problem, it might be useful to know what the other options on that page are also set to.
