Potions to lock items in place

Add two potions, one to lock and one to unlock items.  By pouring the lock potion on an item that is on the ground it removes the option to pick it up.  Pouring the unlock potion restores the ability to pick it up.  The item can still be interacted with in any other way that is allowable when it is on the ground - e.g. a note can be read, a piggy feeder can be filled.

Ideally the value of lock potions should be around 200 to 300 currants a use and unlock potions should be more expensive, around 400-500 currants per use.

Why?  This would allow people to leave items in their streets without fear of them being taken because it would cost more to take a feeder, or a meat or milk collector than the item is worth to the person taking it.  It would also allow people to leave notes in places that could last a little longer.  It could also be used for decorative purposes both on home streets and in public places.

  • I'm a little edgy on being able to use it on public streets, because someone with a lot of money could go drop the shiny rocks all over the ground and lock all of them down somewhere in Uralia, causing a big pain for others. Although I think it would work fine on home streets. :)

  • Griefers would get even more lols from unlocking and stealing something that you had paid a lot of money to lock down.

  • WindBorn, I think that is possible, but like in real life, most of the time when people take things it is because the opportunity is there and they don't think they will get caught (or, in Glitch, because getting "caught' doesn't carry consequences since technically it isn't wrong and it is only social norms being violated).

While I imagine a few people may be specifically targeted, the majority of the time people aren't going to actively spend their own money to take something away from you at a loss to you both.  I think it would also clarify the intention of the person doing it.  A person who is repeatedly going to a street and unlocking and taking feeders would have a hard time feigning ignorance of the fact that they were causing someone else grief.

More than that, though, I think it would mean that people who honestly don't know better - newer glitchen may take a feeder because there is something there they can take.

  • I like this idea. Add in what stoot said about a way to more easily determine who has been on your home street, which will make it even easier to see who is a chronic griefer (possibly; I guess we won't know how that process will work until it is implemented).
