How do you name your Piggies or other animals.

Do you have a theme when you name your animals? Do you change their names? I was tending to the animals I have on my home street when I realized that I had named one of the piggies after an Ex. Hmmm... I wonder I'd that was my subconscious at work. . .

  • My friends and I generally named them after the knights of Camelot. That was at our old houses though, and lately for the new one I've taken to "1," "2," 3," just so I can keep track.

  • I name after musicians, some numbers and family membs.

There's a lot of variety when it comes to animal names...

  • I number them like chicken 1, piggy 5 etc.

  • I don't usually name butterflies, but when I do, I name them "Twinkletoes."

My chickens are all named on the same format: "Prisoner ###" wherein the first two hashes are random numbers and the third is one number 0-9 (since I have 10 chickens). It's just a little more fun and creative way of numbering my chickens without making it abundantly obvious that's what I'm doing. So I have Prisoner 290, Prisoner 381, Prisoner 852, etc -- I just look at the last number to keep track of them. :)

And all my pigs are named on ham or pig themed puns, excepting of course the pig I named Ilmenskie Jones. The others are usually things like "Kevin Bacon" and "Hamish" and "Captain HAMmer" and suchlike.

  • I am totally going to name at least one of my chickens Camilla now!  Can't believe I didn't think of that myself :)

I tend to name my piggies after the characters in Firefly, with occasional other TV and/or movie references.

  • I have themed naming of my animals too. My piggies are all named after celestial bodies (and one is a pun: Aurora Boarealis), while my chickens are named after famous feuds (Montague, Capulet, Hatfield and McCoy).

I used to name butterflies after Henry VIII's wives, but I don't bother naming them at all any more.

  • My personal piggies are likely more offensives/non-PC than anything I name in Ur.  Piggies are usually named after various undesirable men, some well known, others a bit obscure. (though I did do a whole 'Bacon' line at one point - Nathaniel Bacon, Kevin Bacon, Francis Bacon, etc.)  My chickens often are female names and usually are terms of endearment.

In Ur, I typically name all the animals after food...piggies get names like pork chop, bacon, pork patty, roast pork, etc.; chickens get names like pot pie, tenders, nuggets, etc.

I do also like to do cartoon/character lines of naming...Porky, Petunia, Babe, Wilbur or Henny Penny, Little, Foghorn Leghorn, etc.

The butterflies for me give me fits in trying to name...I often try to make names that rhyme with butterfly - my fav thus far is Flutter By...

I did have a whole set of pigs and chickens named after prime numbers - pigs were lower level primes - 1, 2, 3; chickens were higher level ones - 47, 251, 23, etc.; I think I named the butterflies after Maxwell Smart spy numbers though...stupid butterflies, don't know what the prime numbers are...sigh...

  • At the moment, I've got piggies named for the crew of Serenity, three chickens named for the Triforce bearers, and my butterflies are just numbered, because they're so hard to keep track of when they're flying around like that. XP

  • I name everything Bruce. Piggies, chickens, butterflies, cubimals, gift boxes, generic bags, bigger bags, anything I can name. Sometimes when I'm feeling super crazy I'll name something Maynard. One time I went all out and named a butterfly Ralph.

  • Normally, I give animals random girl's names (including the occasional Lorraine, which is what I also named my character in glitch, obviously-- it's my favorite of the girl's names).

The names I use most often:
    * Lorraine (tho lately I use it less because people had problems with it in the past..)
    * Estelle (i don't actually know anyone with this name, but I like it)
    * Beccalynn
    * Iridessa (And after awhile of using it, I actually found a player with this name!)

But in general I have a large pool of names I source from. On some Home Streets, I use female names that start with the same first letter as the owner. That's if they have enough unnamed animals to do this. Though, every once in awhile, I might name an animal with a witty name or reference a character in something.

I absolutely cannot stand when all of the same animal type have the same name, making it difficult to figure out who I've harvested or not. I also cannot stand gibberish names, numbers, or when names are used in all lowercase letters (PLEASE capitalize the first letter, it IS a name, after all...). I also dislike overly crude words being used (be civil, please!).

  • Pigs are named in honor of MST3K: Hamdinger and Porkarina.

Chickens are Fingers or Nugget, although I have used Roast, Fried, Grilled, etc.

I don't usually name butterflies, but one of my friends named one Iron.

  • I like to give my butterflies gangster names. I almost always have a butterfly named Knuckles. It cracks me up.

Right now I'm really into old-fashioned southern-ish names so I've had a few hens named Loretta. I went through a period of naming my chickens after poets and opera singers.

I like to name my pigs in themes. For instance, in my Salatu home my current pigs are named after rulers in Game of Thrones. In my R2 house my backyard pigs are Meshack, Shadrack and Abendigo. :)

  • wow- great minds ;)
I already use alot of the themes mentioned here including : pigs as food aka porkchop, fried rice, piggy in a blanky etc .; chickens as food aka general so's , kiev , etc. ; butterflies as colors of blue : cerulean , cyan , baby , aquamarine, sky, sapphira (a play on the eragon name and the color of blue) ; and Firefly based character names for animals (the lady characters are always butterflies ) . Sometimes descriptive names for butterflies- Like gossamer , beautiful , flutterby .
I also name animals after my friends so that when they come to visit they will see that I was thinking about them even when they were not around - ie: Ascher blue , Thursday Soleil is awesome , Jessenya is crazy & pretty, and CTP is aces.
I also use plays on words-or playful things-or other characters names from books, movies, etc - like Porcine Princess (pig) , Miss Piggy , Mrs .Featherduster (chicken) , chicken little , Porco Rosso , Wilbur, frankenpiggie , etc.
    Currently I am doing a numbers theme with pigs- Uno, 2's a Crowd, 3's Company , 4 of a Kind , etc. :)

  • I like to name butterflies after virtues: compassion, empathy, wisdom, etc...

I like to name piggies after other animals: horsie, doggie, zebra, kittie... I just imagined my little glitch calling her first pig, "doggie" (that was the special one that lived inside the house and made the seeds.) and it went from there. I also like to name pigs in very proud names: Oinktaculus the Magnificent, Porcine Stupendious. Seems like piggies can be silly in that way.

Chickens I've not settled on. I do like my current street batch, of Frodo, Elrond, Gandalf, Gollum, and Precious... get to watch em all chase after Precious...

  • I'm not sure how I name most of my pigs but I wind up with a lot of Cl names like Clementines, Clarabellas, and Clarissas but also  a lot of SusieBeans.  I had named a ton of piggies after my little dog who died because I miss him.  And, Gloria, because our friends down the street have a little three legged chihuahua that is more than loveable and wonderful. You've never met Gloria but you love her as much as I do, I'm sure you do.  I  also make up names because I like the way they sound in my head, like Durindalla and Floof.  Henry Sylvester just sounds like the right kind of name for a smart piggy who likes to eat grain and prance about in my bog house. Maria Conchita, not sure when I picked that name but I do like the actress Maria Conchita Alonzo so that must have given me the idea.  There have been a lot of Shaharazads in my butterfly naming but I've probably spelled it a thousand and one ways.

  • I have one chicken flock named after mathematicians, one flock named after physicists (Heisenberg always seems to like an extra squeeze) and one flock named after the characters in Archer.
Posted 8 months ago by Aleph Zero Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I like being able to keep track of my personal stock, but I don't like numbering them.

Instead, I'll pick a theme (like, say, name that sound Italian to me) and come up with A, B, C names (like Angelo, Biagio, Castorio, etc... and I don't care about accuracy, sometimes I really just make something up that sounds like it would fit).

I've noticed that I tend to give chickens more female-sounding names and piggies more masculine names. Butterflies get things that sound like fairies, typically. And almost all of my name puns go to pigs because pigs are funny.

  • +1 billion at Carl - Seriously tho, you might be my favorite glitchen.

I name mine on a whim. One is named Trela which is just Alert spelled backwards another is Terrorist Chest Bump because that phrase was on TV  - it's random mostly. I stopped naming my butterflies because they die easily. I do have one named Katniss that I make sure to sing to, massage, and milk regularly so she survives :P

  • At the moment i'm going with the crew of the Nostromo (alien), when those names run out will probably move on to aliens and so on. My piggies are named after characters from Hamlet, and my cubimals are named after jazz musicians. Un-named animals I come across usually get whatever pops into my head, the last ones were named unpacked, reticulated spline, loaded....... I was tired, very tired.

  • I name my piggies using the nicknames of the players on the San Jose Sharks hockey team. There are a lot to choose from. Clowie, Cooch, Pavs, Pickles, Patty, Jumbo, Crankshaft...you get the idea.

For my chickens, I name each of them some silly variation of my daughter's name, Aimee. Her irl nickname is Chicken!

I don't even bother naming butterflies. I don't know why. Just not interested for some reason.
