Nudgery I

Grr. It added 29 percent to my time penalty. Did we really need to make moving things around on our home streets a skill? Is that not more appropriate for a upgrade card?

It just seems like skills should be limited more to larger things that are related to unlocking the ability to do a new activity or craft new things. Simpler, yet useful, stuff like this new functionality seems like it ought to be an upgrade.

Because it will add such a significant chunk to my times I think I might end up not learning it and simply being careful with my cultivation, despite thinking it will be very useful.

  • Thank you for this new skill!

  • I like the idea of the upgrade card, but then, couldn't you say the same for Penmanship? People have been complaining that there's no point to brain upgrades because they have all the skills already. That said, I'm just playing devil's advocate. I actually agree with you.

  • Aww, sorry if I wasn't clear. I'm upset that it's a skill, not that it exists :) Seems like very useful functionality.

  • I think the idea behind upgrade cards is that they further the benefits of the skills you've learned (with some exceptions).  So you couldn't have an upgrade without the corresponding skill!

  • I think it was a good choice.  This way everyone has the option to change their garden around with ease and pretty much straight away (I have to wait a couple of days until I'll have the skill learnt).  For lower level players it could have taken much longer if they would have had to wait for the upgrade card.  This way it's free for everyone too (no IMG to pay)

  • @Aurora Ah, I have to disagree. It is possible you only think so because it's a skill already. A completely new glitch wouldn't think snapshottery should be a skill, as it was in the past, and I think this is a similar situation.

@Arabesque I think you're coming at this like a high level player :) If you were a new glitch you'd be buying your upgrade cards as you went along and would have no skills at all. The upgrade for nudgery would likely be unlocked by reaching some low level like 5, or by simply visiting your street. So it'd be attainable very easily, as their decks would still be quite small at that time.

While we're on the subject I'd say levitation and penpersonship are in a similar boat ;)
Posted 7 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think Arabesque's argument is the strongest yet for it to be a skill.

As an upgrade, it might be unlocked at a certain point, but it would still be random chance that dictates whether you see it or not.

  • Hmm. I seem to be outgunned here ;) I think I'll just tick that off as a strange and marginal opinion I hold then.

@Carl Yes, but the game seems to prioritize certain upgrades (This being only anecdotal evidence, I apologize). If all you have is energy, quoin, and brain upgrades, which is pretty much all a brand new glitch would have, then other, non infinite, upgrades seem to come up with much increased frequency.

When I learned Croppery again, I found that the croppery related upgrades showed up upon the first reshuffle.

And the price shouldn't be insane, or anything. I truly don't understand why the skill has such a long base time to begin with. I'm almost considering advocating that this should just be the standard behavior for cultivated items.
Posted 7 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Eh, it's not a bad opinion.  Just listing the details to be thorough.
Posted 7 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks Carl lol - I don't hear that very often.  And Grendaline, yeah I just checked the skill page and a requisite is that you already need 2 other skills and be a level 8 to unlock.  I think for the most part everyone here is above that level (except for the alts lol)
Posted 7 months ago by ~Arabesque~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'll take it one step further and say that it should be neither a skill nor an upgrade. We can move everything else (furniture, objects), so why can't we move plots and trees?

That being said, I don't really care that much. I was just surprised that it was a skill instead of just a normal feature of gameplay.
Posted 7 months ago by Becky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, I saw that :) Another reason I figure it should just be an upgrade card that is available from the get go, or at least very close to it. I dunno why you should need Soil Appreciation and Eyeballery to be able to move around your stuff :)

Edit: Heh, I find I'm coming to agree with Becky. Why do we have to learn how to nudge ;)? We seem to know how to do it already.

  • By far one of the worst created skills.
    IMO.
Posted 7 months ago by Volkov Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh, Volkov: Grump grump grump. What else is new?

I kind of like it as I am sure this will save me lots of Wine of the Dead in future.
    I'm learnin' it!
Posted 7 months ago by CrashTestPilot Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm actually more likely to use a Wine of the Dead now that I can move things around afterward...  But, all my resources are butted up against each other, as they are.
Posted 7 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I like it and I hope they add 100 more skills.

I think that in order for this game to become great, they need to get to a point where no one glitch can do everything and each of us will have to choose a set of skills that we enjoy and rely on others for the ones we don't have!

  • Here, here!
Posted 7 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But I hate others and I like doing everything ;) To be serious though, what that encourages me to do is make an alt to experience the other skills. Is that really what we're going for? You can't do everything on one account, and the only easy work around is to make another? Seems like that might get cluttery once we launch again ;)

  • Surely you can knock weeks off learning times with the amount of favour you've racked up with your giant?

I'm a whore for all the giants, so just knocked 12 hours off my learning time with one donation to Mab (at 4600 favour now)
Posted 7 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not that that's particularly relevant,  I'm just curious
    :)
Posted 7 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh yeah of course :) I could probably have the skill under my belt in exactly half the time if I liked. It just seems like I shouldn't have to :)
Posted 7 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh, ha, just saw from my updates that you've already learned and unlearned it.
Posted 7 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Heh, yeah I learned for about ten minutes until I realized what it did to my time penalty. I already have things mostly set up. Nooooooot worth it xD
Posted 7 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well, to your point.  I can do everything right now, and I don't ever really want to.  I very often buy things off the auctions just to save time.  Time is the one thing that will keep us buying from each other!

Well, time and impatience.  Time and impatience are the two things that will keep us buying from one another!

Well, time, impatience and a certain limit to the number of resources on our own streets...

  • It's 3 days for me.  Time for a nice nap.
Posted 7 months ago by CrashTestPilot Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Heh. Starting to think those brain upgrades look a little nicer aren't we ;)?
Posted 7 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • For me, N 1 was 2d 12h with 96/50 and 843% penalty. Began learning and penalty increased to 891%. Donated enough to Mab and Lem to knock off 30 hours. Learning will be finished in 1d 6h. I probably shouldn't have bothered speed learning though....there isn't a rush and poor rock was boring doing nuttin' anyway. Oh well---lol

  • Grendaline  - how much favour do you have with Grendaline?  How much time could you slice off?
Posted 7 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Eh? What's five days, anyhow? No big deal. *learn*

When I saw the skill title, I thought it would be a skill to help line up SDBs and other furniture items, perhaps with keystrokes instead of precise mouse draggins.

  • I would rather use img and wine of the dead.

  • that could be rather tedious if you need to move a lot of things

I'm hopin I can make my metal rocks do the foxtrot

  • Learning skills is completely your choice. It is known that the more skills you learn, the more time subsequent skills take to learn. Don't see what the issue is :-/

  • I'm sure TS will continue to add lots of new skills in order to promote the specialisation of Glitches. It is undoubtedly significant that the skill is called 'Nudgery I' and hence we will likely see further Nudgery skills that build upon this, not to mention various upgrades.

So while it does seem a fairly marginal skill at the moment, I'm sure that this will be built upon.

My concern is that those that want to learn all the skills will have an increasingly hard time doing so with the current cap on brain capacity. I understand that the new system is to encourage specialisation and certainly it would be good to move away from the old system where everybody would essentially learn everything because they can. However, some people (like me) enjoy being able to do a wide selection of things and don't want to be forced into a particular niche. While I don't think that should necessarily be made easy, if we want to spend all our imagination on brain capacity upgrades (which aren't cheap) to enable this rather than energy or quoin upgrades, surely that is an equally valid form of specialisation?

Not to mention my view that the current upgrade mechanic doesn't really encourage specialisation either. (See my treatise here.)

  • Mines only 1 day 21 hours.
Posted 7 months ago by Eye Wonder Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Where are you finding this skill?  I don't see it on the skill tree...

ETA:  and then I did.  14.5 hours to learn.  I'm not sure I care enough to add it to my brain.

In passing, I am all in favor of specialization.

  • Grendaline - I wonder why you care so much about the time spent learning a skill.  Now i have bought 14 brain points, but i have 97/44 and a 1364 time penalty. I think its 4 days to 5 days to learn Nudgery. And this does not bother me one bit. The only reason i bought the cards was to get them out of my deck. (This does not seem to work). before you message me back. I know everyone can play Glitch their own way. Just want to say "take a deep breath, patience is a virtue" (Maybe not in Glitch, but most place's)
Posted 7 months ago by WhereIsTheCandy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I suspect, knowing what a smart Glitch Grendaline is, that she's planning for future must-have skills that might be released in batches. Also, having to learn a big one like ... Mining 4 with a huuuuuge time penalty would be a bummer, patience notwithstanding.

  • Aleph Zero - Yes maybe in the future. I think Stoot said there is still be changes coming in the next 3 months. Maybe i am wrong in keeping 300,000 iMG balance. Its hard to tell. Do i already have all the good cards or not? Maybe i dont have good cards in my deck because im only lvl 31. or because my brain is small or i didnt walk enough that day. Anyway Aleph Zero you are right, (Good point) Im just trying to play a game where I dont know all the rules.

  • Has anyone learned this yet?  I'd like to know if it allows you to place items a bit closer together, or if if the existing parameters are still in place.
Posted 7 months ago by Genkicoll Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ah, wow, thanks for mentioning that Genkicoll! That would be a really good reason to learn the skill :) I hadn't thought that might be possible. If it isn't, it'd be cool if they incorporated it into ayd sort of Nudgery II skill that comes out in the future.

I'd definitely consider investing in the skill despite the brain capacity penalty in that case.
Posted 7 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • After learning the skill, my first thought was to try moving things closer together, it didn't seem to work.
Posted 7 months ago by moucri Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @moucri.....while in cultivation mode you can click on an item and the option to move it appears.

It seems there are still  existing parameters though.
Posted 7 months ago by Breezy Meadow Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sorry if I was unclear, that's exactly what I meant. I could see the option to move the items, but wasn't able to do so because of the existing parameters.
Posted 7 months ago by moucri Subscriber! | Permalink
  • while in cultivation mode you can click on an item and the option to move it appears

Well, not exactly... In cultivation mode the option to move a cultivated item appears above the item, but you don't have to to click on the item.

Also, yeah, we still restrict how close things can be. But with nudgery you can tighten things up if when you placed things you did not get them as close as you like, or arranged as you like.
