Discussion behavior and general courtesy..

Right now I am very offended and upset with Mr. Dawgg's response to Windborn in the discussion he started in the Ideas forum.  I hope someone at TS is reading and will do something because I feel that this kind of rudeness in not acceptable under any circumstances and has no place in the forums.  (See the response there to Windborn's comment).

  • Mr. Dawgg -

Your comment to WindBorn was rude, no need to speak to others that way, especially if you wish to be taken seriously.

It's nice to get a reading so quickly on someone's social skills and gaming style, isn't it?  Helps know who you want to hang out with.

  • Yeah, wow.  I maybe reacted a little harshly, but still.  Geez.

  • Whatever happened to not censoring others? Where are all the people that overwhelmingly stood against me when I brought this type of issue before?

EDIT: Was I right to agree with another user who pointed out that only the more "popular" players seem to be heard and that they band together only when it's convenient for them? I only bring this up because it's extremely frustrating to have people bitch me out for bringing up courtesy, etiquette, social norms, etc., and then have people bring up the topic on their own with pretty decent support when I felt I had to stand with very few people beside me.

It's even more frustrating when you brought it up in the context of wanting to curb discrimination towards gay individuals (and all individuals in particular, but as a gay biological male this is the context I was using) and essentially have people tell me "oh, too bad, just block them"). Maybe we should just be able to block/filter people we don't agree with on an individual basis? Or maybe, now that there's more support from "mainstream" and non-marginalized players, we can actually do something more active, as I had initially proposed?

[/tirade for feeling discriminated against and feeling unsupported]

  • I've seen a lot of hate on WindBorn actually, not just from Mr. Dawgg. But anyway, yes, I'm hoping there's at least one person at TS moderating the forums. There is a bit of animosity going around on the forums if you read each topic.

  • @Cerulean

It's nice to get the self-aggrandizement and social skills laid out so quickly and visibly, don't you think?  I'd hate to see anyone censored.  I'd rather give them enough rope to hang themselves.

  • For calling a jackoff a jackoff, I'm going to be a pariah. Makes a lot of sense. *No one* is that sensitive.

  • Windborn,

You've go that right.. I think my BP went through the roof.  Had to get out my Focusing Orb.. LOL!  But seriously, I started to write a reactionary post and then realized that the poster is not worth my time or attention.  I just felt it was necessary to point out such bad behavior somewhere.

    Cerulean,

I wasn't there when you had such an experience.  Had I been, my reaction would have been the same as it is here.  So sorry if you got a similar slap in the face and no one came to your defense.

  • @Fi, its okay, it's not your fault. I just felt like venting because I sincerely felt that certain issues, such as my sexuality, played a part in gaining or losing support and I think I'm just very sensitive right now. Ugh.

  • For the record, Princess Fi, I wasn't trying to raise your blood pressure. I apologize if my use of the term JO did such. I clearly don't have as close a relationship with WindBorn as you do. Maybe he is at fault for making, what seemed to me, an insensitive reply to something I felt very passionate about. Maybe my BPs went up when I read his reply. It's possible.

    Thanks for your consideration.

  • :(  Taking this to G+.. ok?
Posted 17 months ago by Joni Mitchell Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And you continue to use derogatory terms because you have yet to realize that there are other ways to communicate your opinions?

  • If you've read any of my other posts, you'd realize the absurdity of your claim.

as a point of information .. isn't WindBorn female?

  • Haha, I was thinking the same thing, Stri!
Posted 17 months ago by Sita Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Actually, I'm cis-gendered*.  And a quick look at my profile will give you all necessary clues

    (*that one's for you, Cerulean)
Posted 17 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And why would you think its okay to ostracize an individual & backup an entire thread to be rude to them? To be honest this is all just case of pots calling the kettle black.

  • Windborn isn't male or female, Windborn is gale.
Posted 17 months ago by Nanookie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @TS: Actually, calling out someone for namecalling is a *little* different than being rude to someone trying to help you (and Windborn was obviously trying to help).

What makes it worse is MD just keeps insisting that he can call anyone a jackoff anytime, and anyone who thinks that is a problem is just way too sensitive.

  • Do gales tend to get better upper body strength than females?  If so, I will totally join that club.
Posted 17 months ago by larky lion Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Look.

WindBorn wasn't trying to be helpful. If you genuinely believe that, you're feeding into her BS.

She saw my tl;dr post and wanted to right my wrong because that's how she is. For whatever reasons, my post provoked her into making a reply that didn't really contribute anything but at the same time wasn't outright rude.

I saw through that, and called her on it. I, unlike WindBorn, am a crude person. I go straight to the point and express myself as clearly as I can. I don't toy around with things. And I certainly don't get upset when someone calls me a name. Not that she did, but again, I apologize for raising Princess Fi's blood pressure. As calling her friend a name did bother her.

In fact, I hoped my name-calling would cause the pseudo-intellectuals to just simply steer-clear of my post. However, I forgot that it attracts people who are easily offended.

  • I am reminded of the time(s) when I had to be told that zeeberk is female.  And who was very gracious about it, btw.  And didn't someone else point out that all cute chick avatars are actually dudes?*

  • @LL: I actually don't think they are at much all that different, unless you believe that there are some instances where being rude is acceptable & some instances it isn't. Considering this thread is about mod's censoring the forums due to bullying, it doesn't really make sense there was an entire new thread started listing the name of a specific offender as though this doesn't ever happen.

a love that i don't THINK has any implications to his gender identity.

  • Everybody knows rhubarb without strawberries is just an also-ran as a pie.  I mean, really.  You can't tap that without some strawberries in there...at least TWO.

  • @WindBorn:  Thank you!  :D

It makes me a bit sad that there's arguments between Glitchers and it's not even officially released yet.  Though I am impressed with the way everyone's stating their opinions/feelings/etc.  You're all so eloquent!  I feel...intimidated.  o.o

So I'm off to do something where I don't feel quite so inadequate!

  • @TS: Calling for censorship is going overboard, sure.  But I don't think it's rude for use to say, "Hey, namecalling isn't cool here!"
Posted 17 months ago by larky lion Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +10000 Taylor Swift.

Rude in response to rude in response to rude.

As a passive party, I thought WindBorn's comment was extremely snappy and rude, I also thought MD's comment was rude, and I definitely think this post/everyone calling out MD is the rudest yet.  One of the most blatant forms of hipocracy I have seen in my time on forums/in game.

  • @stri depends on how much one loves that pie.  After all, there's a woman who got married to an amusement park ride. Pie seems much more manageable.

  • Windborn's post has a bit of a know-it-all tone to it, but otherwise, what is wrong with it?  Am I missing something?
Posted 17 months ago by larky lion Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The thing is, I'm a crude person and I admit it. If you're crude to me, I'm *going* to be crude back. I know it's wrong, but I'm impulsive like that.

But thanks, Laurali & TS, though I know you're not supporting me at all really. Just glad someone has the guts to chime in and respond in a matter that's against the public opinion.

Reminds me of the battles I had with Inspoetica.

  • Did you know that "rhubarb" also refers to an argument?  Comes from actors mumbling "rhubarb rhubarb" to simulate an angry crowd.

  • I don't think Mr. Dawgg's initial response is worth all this hubbub.
I've been on the receiving end of one of Windborn's holier-than-thou posts. Mr. Dawgg's reaction was pretty much the same as mine. I didn't have the guts to put it in print, though.

Windborn, keep in mind that you reap what you sow.

  • I totally forgot to add @Cerulean, I am so sorry for any sort of discrimination or negativity you experienced.  However, I do not now and have not ever supported censoring what people say.  I was not around for the post you are describing, but my sentiments would have probably been the same about censoring.

  • Curious how you all have been able to come up with some "popular players".  There are so many I can hardly keep track of anything!
Posted 17 months ago by larky lion Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ok, I started this discussion so I'm going to add my last post to it.  Rude is rude is rude... I did not suggest what I thought TS should or should not do.  They could strike down that post like lightning from Zille's Fancy Pick or not, whatever is in their better judgement.  I own that I found the post in question very offensive and extremely immature.  We can choose to disagree, argue, snipe, etc. but it can be done without being vulgar.  I'm no pris.. and frequently swear like a sailor..  It's not the words, it's how the're used and to what purpose.. Name calling is not adult behavior.  I must assume that MD is an adult, at least chronologically - or that, at least, s/he is at least 14 and has their parent's permission to play.  I guess that's all I have to say.

ps.. Good point Larky.. real sure I'm not "popular" and this is definitely not convenient.
