Glitchpedia.com launched

Hi there.
Just launched www.glitchpedia.com
The service still needs work, but the idea behind it is to help you track which items you are still missing to complete the recipes you need.

No more pen & papper :-)

  • Oh! That's a good idea! I think somewhere someone created a service that shows what's in your inventory by bag. Connect that to the Skill/Achievements part (which is available from the Glitch API) and I think you are onto something. Thanks for the effort. I wish I could find that link...
Posted 16 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • LOL. I stand corrected. You've got that well in hand. :)
I still want to find that bags link again though.

Edit: I found a spelling error.
"Your cart is currently empty.Use the search on the top rigth corner to search for the items you desire and then add them to the cart."

    You misspelled "right".

  • Heheh, thanks :-) Will fix it

  • Nice, Ghunti! I will probably always be a paper/pen kinda gal, but lots of folks will really appreciate being able to create a shopping list with your handy tool. Great job!

  • @Folkian fool- not sure if you are after  Show Me My Stuff or GlitchZen Bags & Inventory . If it is another, please let me know. Thanks!
Going to play with this new toy now. Ty Ghunti.

  • I think it was one of those! Thank, @JW.

  • Wow - that's a great tool! I <3 it.

  • Can you please correct the spelling of 'paper' on the front page?  It looks like a great project, but I can't stop thinking about gynecology with that spelling...
Posted 16 months ago by chicgeek Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I missed that one! LOL. "papper" I'm guessing?
Posted 16 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And 'payed'... (please?)
Posted 16 months ago by chicgeek Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ahhh CakePHP - good for you. A nice looking project, well done.
Posted 16 months ago by Snazzlefrazz Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I've heard of it, but never messed with it (yet). Thanks for that detail, @Snazzlefrazz. I  hadn't even thought about the framework @Ghunti used.

  • you had me at "at least im not using Comic Sans"
Posted 16 months ago by goodstory Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Think I found a bug.
    Saffron - You need 12, have 0... percentage 62%!

Edit: Also says I have 0 Allspice...I'm going to check the above links, but I'm pretty sure I have more than that. I'll update after I check that.

    Update: 42 Allspice.

    Update: 0 beans... I actually have 56.

  • This is really cool! (It's also pretty unclear what it is for & how it works when you first start, but I bet you will sort that out.)
Posted 16 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Looks great, I will try this next test!
Posted 16 months ago by Victoria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I get the following error after allowing it to access my data:

Error: The requested address '/glitch/users/login' was not found on this server.

  • goodstory - As I'm someone who couldn't design their way out of a paper bag, I LOLed at that too  :-)

Fokian Fool - I've only used CakePHP for a pair of "let's see how it works" applications. And hated it. Its motto is "convention over configuration"... which means if you want to do things their way it's really easy, but it's harder to force it to do things the way YOU want to do it. Next time I need a PHP framework I'm going for CodeIgniter - heard nothing but good stuff about it from people who've used it seriously and the demo I knocked up using their tutorial seemed pretty sensible.
Posted 16 months ago by Snazzlefrazz Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Snazzlefrazz - I've helped "debug" the CodeIgniter manual :)
I'm on the site as BasketcaseSoftware. Even though it's kind of a dead thread now, I have several related links in my "Multi-threaded Forum" topic in the "Ideas" forum. I haven't been on those forums as much lately, but developed several guides and tools for it. Let me know if you would like any help.

  • This is fab!  Will be ever so useful, I'm on a real cooking kick at the moment.

There's definitely something screwy going on with my bananas.  The progress bar &  % complete seem roughly at the same level,  but it says I have 0. farm7.static.flickr.com/612...
    farm7.static.flickr.com/620...

  • It is been having bugs. You'll see my reports earlier in this topic. But I've seen a lot work VERY well and I know I'll be using it once the code monkeys get it all worked out.

  • Oh,  and I can't click into the search box when using Chrome (13.0.782.112) & Mac

  • I'm using Chrome but not on a Mac. Currently running it under Windows 7. I'll trying it under Linux later... Hmm. My current version is 11.0.696.71 and it's in the middle of updating. I'll see if I have the same problem after that.

  • Update. It appears to be working with my version of Chrome under windows.

  • chicgeek - Clearly English is something i need to get better at :-)
Fokian Fool - The allspices and beans sound like a real problem, will have to debug it latter.

Clearly there's some confusion (probably my fault as pointed by stoot barfield) regarding the percentage displayed near the items.
I will try to explain it better in game, but will state it here also:

    Ex: farm7.static.flickr.com/612... (thanks  shexycorin)
You 0 bananas you need 24 but still its 71% complete, because you already have the fruit changing machine and probably around 18 cherries.
The percentage measures how far from being able to make the 24 bananas you're.
You can actually achieve a percentage of 100% and still have 0 bananas, but in does cases the pop up will show you a messages stating that you only need to actually produce the bananas :-)

Thanks all for the love and reports

  • shexycorin - will try to debug the problemwith the search bar
Posted 16 months ago by Ghunti Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ah,  thanks Ghunti,  that makes sense!
Posted 16 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Just an idea -  given that tools are generally always present,  would it be an idea to separate all the tools from the ingredients?  So you can have one progress par for tool, another for ingredients.

Also  - I'm not seeing nearly so many green lights or progress bars on Chrome (13.0.782.112) -  disabled any extensions, but I only have a twitter client & gmail, so that shouldn't affect anything.

  • Ghunti, good work!
one thing I noticed is it does not know how to produce cheese
Posted 16 months ago by Artilect Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Fokian Fool - Regarding the bean and allspice count problem you reported: You actually have beans and allspices on your bags, but you added to the cart recipes that also need these ingredients (before you add beans and allspices alone), so its assumed that they are spent making upper recipes first. You can change the recipes order by dragging them to other positions.

shexycorin - Can't see the image you've uploaded. The machines are not separated from the recipes, because they are actually needed in the process. If for example you add 3 recipes that need lets say the frying pan, if you have one in your cart, all the 3 recipes will show that they have the required machinery. Also machines are always the first item in every recipe.

Artilect - Thanks for noticing. Thats a problem of all items that don't require machines to be produced. Will track them down, and fix as soon as i can

  • Can it work on stuff you have in storage?
Posted 16 months ago by xoxJulie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • My cart only shows as being empty?
Posted 16 months ago by xoxJulie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • xoxJulie - You add recipes (and quantity) to the cart. It will check your bags in game and let you know what items (and how many) you need to make the recipes you chosen to do
Posted 16 months ago by Ghunti Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @xoxJulie: I believe there's still no API method for items in your house cabinet (I assume that's what you meant by "storage"). So this only works on what's in your bags.

  • Thank you Ghunti, I'll give it a whirl while waiting for the game to open :)

Tried it and works like a charm, thanks again.

This also works great for making tin, tiny bubbles wonderful.
Posted 16 months ago by xoxJulie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have to admit, it took me a while to figure out what the hell this was for.  I was nervous to add things to my cart because I wasn't sure what it was going to do (I know it doesn't have write access, but hey, who knows? :)  )

Now that I "get it", it's a cool tool :)
Posted 16 months ago by Vicereine Linnæa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah I thought it was a shopping site at first since all you have is a "cart" and a search box (and it took me a while to figure out that the search box was limited to items in Glitch).
Posted 16 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • stoot barfield - You are not the first one. I will probably rename that to list or something.
Posted 16 months ago by Ghunti Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Good!

And also, in all the blank space you have when it first loads on the first use, write out a short description and put it in HUGE-but-faint text. Like "Find items you want to make and we'll figure out what you need to make them!"
Posted 16 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You mean inside the app or on the login page?
Posted 16 months ago by Ghunti Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I meant inside the app. Though I guess you could do both.
Posted 16 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ghunti -  What I mean to say is that we generally don't run out of tools,  unless they break, so including them in the percentages makes the percentage a bit confusing/misleading/useless.  e.g. I have no bananas, need 24 but have a fruit making machine, so I'm 71% of the way there.  At least to me, it would be more useful to have, say,  a check for tools but not include them in the progress.  Maybe it's just me.  Regardless, it's very helpful!
    :)

I've fixed the image link in my previous post

    - Since the main recipe (Earthshaker) is completed, then the child recipes are all in a comleted state. They could show a green dot on every one of them, but i think that would not add any extra information to it. What do you think?
