Savi & Phool's Cubimal Ratings - A guide for cubimal rarity, odds, and value ratings

Savi & Phool's Cubimal Ratings Agency

By using data on the results of opening cubimal boxes, the S&P Agency has determined the approximate odds of opening a cubimal and have established a corresponding S&P Rating.

For more in depth information, visit my spreadsheet at:
docs.google.com/spreadsheet...
The spreadsheet contains supplemental info including percentages, totals, charts, timelines, and all of my submission data.

The following data is based on a sample size of 5963 cubimals.

D Grade Cubimals     (projected odds 16.6%)
Chick - 17.16% - D
Piggy - 16.64% - D
Butterfly - 15.71% - D

C Grade Cubimals     (projected odds 8%)
Batterfly - 8.30% - C
Frog - 8.20% - C
Crab - 7.98% - C
Firefly - 7.97% - C

B Grade Cubimals     (projected odds BB: 2%, BBB 1.25%)
Bureaucrat - 2.20% - BB
Juju - 2.06% -  BB
Sno Cone Vendor - 1.98% - BB
Cactus - 1.90% - BB
Squid - 1.90% - BB
Greeterbot - 1.39% - BBB
Smuggler - 1.24% - BBB
Deimaginator - 1.22% - BBB
Dust Bunny - 1.06% - BBB

A Grade Cubimals     (less than 1%)
Gwendolyn - 0.67% - A
Magic Rock - 0.54% - A
Uncle Friendly - 0.52% - AA
Helga - 0.45% - AA
Yeti - 0.45% - AA
Rube - 0.32% - AAA
Rook - 0.15% - AAA

If you're confused by the ratings system, it's relatively simple. A-grade cubimals are the best, and D-grade cubimals are the worst. Within a grade, a triple-letter rating is the best of that grade, single-letter is the worst. A Grade and B Grade cubimals are considered investment grade cubimals. All cubimals below B Grade are considered junk cubimals and hold little to no value. You should expect the ratings of investment grade cubimals to slightly shift as we collect more data.

A couple noteworthy statistics:
You have an 81.96% chance of opening a junk cubimal (49.51% D, 32.45% C)
You have a 14.94% chance of opening a B Grade cubimal
You have a 3.10% chance of opening an A Grade cubimal

About Savi & Phool's Cubimal Rating Agency

This thread is an offshoot of another thread about the odds of opening a particular cubimal (for science!) from an unopened box. We are currently using a lot of their data, but we hope to receive submissions in this thread following our guidelines so we can give you the best cubimal rarity and value information possible. As we receive new data, we will update the odds and ratings in the original post.

Our assumptions:
We are operating under the assumption that vendor location or source (vendor, Rube, wheel) does not affect the odds. We are only interested in the total counts of cubimals you have personally opened.

Submission guidelines:
25 cubimal minimum sample size.
Only include data on cubimals you personally opened.
Do not submit data from any pre-launch period.
Do not exclude C & D Grade cubimals from your counts, the data is only useful if you submit EVERY cubimal you opened, whether it is rare or common.

As a reminder, we don't need info split up by location or source.
When you submit updates, post a new reply with your additions. However, if you only keep track of your total please specify so that your earlier posts aren't double counted.

Our goal:
We hope to reach a sample size of 5000+ cubimals using high quality data from 15+ high quality sources, as this should be enough to firmly establish a cubimal's rarity. We hope this information will help cubimal traders complete their sets by knowing the fair value of their excess inventory. We aren't interested in establishing a dollar value for cubimals (though this data will be helpful for those who are), but we are interested in creating the most accurate set of cubimal odds and ratings possible.

I hope people will find this thread useful. For those who have submitted their information to the other thread, we would appreciate a submission of your most recent data. And if you're remotely interested in this and haven't been keeping track, please start doing so. Every set of data helps.

  • Maybe I'm just overthinking this, but what constitues "high quality data from 15+ high quality sources"? High quality data = data that accurately includes all commons and rares and only ones from opened boxes; high quality sources = ? How do we know we're high quality? lol xD

My guess is that you've used my info on the 300 boxes I've opened that I posted on the other thread? If not... check it out, hehe. I've been keeping careful track. :) And will continue keeping track, so I'll try to post when I get 350 and so on. Glad to see someone using these numbers!

  • @Zoei
By high quality data, I meant data that follows the guidelines I posted. Half of the info in the first thread can't be used at all, its worthless for figuring out accurate odds. Two of the largest posts are from the beta, and this can't be used because the rates have likely changed. Also someone provided an extensive list of all the rare ones he opened, and he obviously opened hundreds, but didn't count common cubimals, so the data is worthless.

I'm hoping I can get 15+ people because it balances out the odds. For example, since you make up roughly half the data, and you haven't found the Uncle Friendly, this data is heavily weighted against Uncle Friendly. The odds were actually 0% until I found someone that had info on 104 cubimals, with 1 Uncle Friendly. That's why having many people is important, especially considering that many cubimal collectors believe that certain people are much more likely to open one particular A Grade or B Grade cubimals. This thread is for determining their rarity in the whole world.

    @Bender Bending Unit Rodriguez
If you meant by yet another thread you meant 'two' threads, I think the answer is yes. I created specific guidelines in this thread that would help what I was trying to accomplish. I didn't want to clog up Vermillion's thread by asking people to refine their data, and I obviously created a different grading system. But the main difference is that I will maintain up to date odds and S&P Ratings based on the data people provide.

I hope you guys understand a little bit more about my reasoning for some of the guidelines. I didn't want to spend too much time on it in the original post, as it was already super long, so I'm sorry if you thought some of the requirements were vague or silly.

Also, thanks for the data magic panda! I will be updating the data with your numbers. Also, the formatting of your post looks great, thanks for separating it by grades.

  • Hi Haze, love what you've done here. I've just recently begun my run on Cubimals, pumping every currant I pick up into buying them. Keeping careful track of what I've gotten and all. So far I'm up to 86 documented box openings. I'm keeping track via text document and a google spreadsheet.

I'll share data when I hit 100, probably a couple hours from now. I've got an Uncle Friendly in the mix, so that should help your data some.
Posted 13 months ago by Keymo Machine Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You all laughed about Uncle Friendly losing his AAA rating, but now it looks like it could be reality. Magic panda found a few, and Keymo has promised info on more.

There are rumors in the market that his Emporium is highly leveraged. With news of a bad cabbage crop, and too much investment in oily dressing, there might be too many shocks for him to maintain his favorable AAA rating. For those looking to maximize their returns via trade, I'd do it now and exit the Uncle Friendly market.

  • I updated the data again. Mucho thanks to Keymo & Breaking Dawn for providing their numbers. The biggest movement was with the Deimaginator, moving from 1.16% to 0.95%. For now I slightly shifted the line between Grade A & Grade B to preserve the groupings. But there's a strong chance the Deimaginator will be moving from a BBB to an A rating in the future.

  • Hello Haze, I love what you're doing and I'm glad you've found inspiration from my old thread. Recently I've started a 10-a-day club where I open 10, 20,or 30 cubimal boxes per day and record their results. I've opened 280 since Halloween.

Some interesting notes: I've gotten Deimaginator 3 times out of 280,  the same rate as smuggler, so I wouldn't consider it an 'A' class. Oddly, I've also gotten 3 Uncle Friendly's yet only one of every other 'A' type, excluding Gwen whom I can never seem to find in a box.

I've invited you to the 10-a-day group so that you can use my rapid cube opening data to support you research here. I plan to stop collecting once I have personally opened 1000 boxes myself. My only regret is that you expressed your results at precentages instead of cubes/1266. I find the raw fractional data easier to analyze.
Posted 13 months ago by zZzZzZzZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks for the invite Verm, I'll compile it into my format and post it here, right now the only data I have from you is the first hundred you posted in your other thread. I'm going to delete that data and use your 280, as I don't know whether there's spillover between the data. It would be extremely helpful if you could update the running totals in a local file as you collect the cubimals each day. The diary format is a little difficult to transcribe. Feel free to chime in with updates when you hit significant milestones, 100's, 50's, whichever you prefer. Or you could maintain a total list within your group and I'll check it periodically myself.

Yeah, I was hesitant to bump up the Deimaginator as anecdotally he didn't seem to be elite status, but who knows what the numbers will dictate. I placed Uncle Friendly fourth on my first list for similar reasons even though he was technically the rarest at the time. As for the totals, I will start to provide those as well. Percentages are easier to digest as the total will constantly change and likely become more confusing to eyeball. I'll write up a total later, and will continue to update it as I change my numbers.
Posted 13 months ago by Haze Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Haze: There is no spillover. All postings I've made in the original forum thread are about cubes opened prior to October 31, and the log that I keep in my group only lists cubes opened October 31 and afterward. You may safely use the original thread dataset and the group thread dataset because those sets are mutually exclusive.

As for the format, I'll give you a quantity-based readout when I reach 500, 750, and 1000 cubes. The reason the post is in 'diary' format is because cubes are listed in the exact order in which they were opened. I hope this helps clear things up!

  • Something I noticed that I wanted to point out...

The current data show that the D Grade Cubimals all have a rough rarity of 17%. Because the Cubimal rarity is likely being set fairly exactly in the code, I'd speculate that the exact probability of opening a D Grade Cubimal is either 17% apiece, or a straight 50% or 51% chance of opening one of the three types.

A similar observation could be made about the C Grade Cubimals. The probability of that group as a whole is hovering suspiciously around 30%, so again, I'd speculate that the chance of opening a member of that group may be exactly 7.5%, or a straight 30% chance of opening one of those four.

I'm sure similar conclusions could be drawn from the B and A Grade Cubimals, but the limited sample size is impeding that at the moment. From the looks of their current probabilities, it's unlikely they are being doled out as a group (i.e., a 15% chance of getting a random B Grade Cubimal), and are rather being treated in the code as "sub-groups", though perhaps not along the B, BB and BBB classifications being used in the original post. How many sub-groups, however? My current figuring would say four such groupings across the B and A grades, but given additional opening data, I could see that number climbing.

Anyway, thought it was worth mentioning. Here's hoping additional data supports my wild speculation! :D

Out of interest, my current wild guesses as to what the "actual" in-code rarity breakdown is...

    ==========

    51% - any D Grade
    30% - any C Grade
11% - one of: Bureaucrat, Cactus, Squid, Juju, Sno Cone Vendor
5% - one of: Greeterbot, Dust Bunny, Smuggler, Deimaginator
2.5% - one of: Helga, Uncle Friendly, Gwendolyn, Yeti, Magic Rock
0.5% - one of: Rube, Rook

  • I don't see how any cubimal can be considered 'investment' grade.  They are issued according to a percentage of how many of each type will occur, but there's no cap on the quantity of cubimal boxes people can buy at the toy shop.  So the rarest cubimals will become more and more common over time and their value should fall, not rise.  They will be the same 'rare' percentage of the population but the total number of cubimals in the game can only go up and up and up.  So cubimals are not at all a good 'investment' if people are expecting the rare ones to go up in value.  They can only go down.  There is money to be made in cubimals right now, in getting the 'rare' ones and selling them at the current inflated prices.  But the people buying them at the inflated prices should be aware that there will be more and more of each 'rare' type in the game every day.
Posted 13 months ago by Parrow Gnolle Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Parrow- exactly. With the exception of chucking cubes into shrines, there's no way to get rid of them, and people wouldn't get rid of the rare cubes anyway. However, as long as demand (the number of collectors) stays proportional to the supply (number of cubimals) the prices will remain static. Anyone who is concerned about cubimals depreciating in value should make starter kits of commons for new players in order to increase demand for rarer types. On a related note, I sell starter kits for 1k- includes the cubimal case plus one each of the common (C and D type) cubimals. I also sometimes hide these kits on top of trees or behind objects just for the heck of it.

  • @Parrow
In case you haven't noticed my Savi & Phool's cubimal ratings use similar rankings to the Standard & Poor's credit ratings, and the use of "investment grade" versus "junk" status is a bit of a wink and a nod towards that. However, that being said, I think the use of the term still holds up. Investment grade refers to the quality and stability of its value, and Grade A & Grade B are the only ones with any market value. I was never suggesting they would appreciate in value though. (But they could make good investments if uninformed traders don't realize that a BBB should actually be worth around twice as much as a B Grade cubimal)

    @Whiskey Sour
I think your idea of subgroups may or may not pan out (i.e. there could be 3 with 0.5% odds) but your groupings are pretty far off from their current values. In a perfect world I would have a 10,000 sample size, but 1500+ samples is more than enough to get an accurate reading of their odds. My first main sample was 752, and most odds have been remarkably similar since then. Among B Grade, Deimaginator has always been the rarest, hovering around 1% (1.06% to 1.01%) and Bureaucrat has always been the most common (2.39% to 2.36%). However, the A Grade cubimals have so few showings that their odds have changed more drastically. Uncle Friendly moved from being the most rare to 2nd least among the A Grade. Still, B Grade cubimals have always been around 1% to 2.5%, and A Grade cubimals have always been below 1% with a significant jump in odds between BBB and A cubimals.

I personally think that the Grade A and Grade B cubimals will all have different odds. If I had to guess, I think the Grade A odds move in increments of 0.05% and 0.075%, and the Grade B odds move in various increments of 0.10%, 0.15%, or 0.20%. Something like that. If we get tons of samples, we should be able to peg it pretty close, and it would be really valuable for those trying to determine it's... uhm... value. If we knew a Rube was exactly 20% more likely than a Rook to appear, we could set exact values in relation to each other. That's the goal anyway.
