Grid Wallpaper for the OCD-Inclined

Wallpaper that has a basic grid pattern, like graph paper, would be really great for those of us who lean in the direction of OCD, making it much easier to line stuff up exactly as we'd like it. It's not something I'd leave up, but would love to be able to use it while moving objects in my home.

Some of the existing wallpaper helps somewhat, but a true grid (or even checkerboard, or plaid, or such) would be even better.

  • alternatively, an option to snap-to gridlines that we can turn off and on while decorating (so those who aren't interested aren't frustrated by them). Example: Windows desktops, align to grid.

  • Yes, I'd like the ability to turn a grid on/off so that I can align things "just so".  An easy toggle thing, like <ctrl>g or something.

  • I second @Miss Cailia's suggestion!

  • I also would love this.

  • Along the same lines (pardon the pun), I'd like a measurement system in the yard, so we'd know how much space we have, and how much each option takes up.  If I know that I have, for example, a yard which is fifty planks long, and each patch takes up eight planks, a peat bog takes up five planks, etc., it's easy to work out how many of each thing I can place before running out of room.

  • Yes! +1! Can add the shift key, when pressed down, it will auto-align. Similar with Photoshop, I think.

  • I'm with you guys on the auto-aligning and such, but I made this request because it requires no programming and so could be added with very, very little effort.

  • Yes I would a like a grid as a temporary wall paper

But glum pudding's idea of knowing how many planks our yard is and how many planks an expansion is and how many a resource uses seems to me to be an essential.

  • YES YES YES.

I can't stand asymmetry. I need grid lines. thank you.

  • Yup, a "snap to grid" or "align with other object" function would make my demented brain very happy.

  • I'm with glum pudding. I'm trying to plan my yard and street-scaping and it would go much more smoothly if I could tell ahead of time what I could fit where. I want to make everything bee-yoo-tee-ful.

Indoors, grid wallpaper and some way to give teensy nudges to objects would be great too. My computer is a laptop and the trackpad is unfriendly towards fine furniture adjustments.

  • FWIW, I use the red/orange/white tiles to this effect.

  • free of course... otherwise a grid creating laser tool.

  • I was hanging some SDBs earlier today and wished I had some kind of level to line them all up with. But a grid-style wallpaper would be perfect! Easy to make and implement, and helpful for everything.

For bonus points, make it look like blueprints. :p

  • YES, please!  I was trying to figure out earlier how I could go about attaching a ruler to my screen.  This would be much easier.
