Crop Growth Bar: How to Read?

When I grow crops and check on their status, I see the progress display. I don't understand what the blue bar and green bar are supposed to represent. For instance, the blue bar is almost completely full, but the green bar is only half-full. What information does that give me?

  • The blue bar is how wet the plot is and lets you know if you need to water it again. So you can sometimes get two (or more) harvests-worth of crops out of watering a plot only once, if you wanted to save on energy and your watering can. The blue bar will shrink as the water level declines.

The green is how much longer until the crop is ready for harvesting. :) When the bar is full, it's ready to pick.

  • I'm not sure I understand how that works with the blue bar, to save on watering.

  • You can plant new crops as long as the blue bar isn't empty :) So you could plant a bunch of spinach crops off of one watering.

  • I just noticed that it indicates "water this plot" even when the blue bar is mostly full. Does that mean you can skip watering it and the plant will still grow?

  • Yes, I usually water the plot once, plant a seed, and walk away until it's finished growing. :)

  • Yes Widdershins.
So from a dry patch, you would water, then plant. After that harvest, plow, and water if necessary. When you plant something and the water level is not at the top level (and you have not watered yet for that crop), you can water. You can also then fertilize (with guano) if you have not done so for that crop. After that, there's Nothing to Do But Wait.

  • Thank you. I've been planting cabbage, which takes 8 or 9 realtime hours to grow, and it seemed like I was having to water excessively.
