Mounts

So, being a crashtestpilot, there are a number of good arguments to have vehicles.
Possibilities:
a) Snails.  They're slow, but with a custom paint job? Also the ability to crawl up vertical surfaces. And you don't have to feed them as often.
b) Bees. Giant fuzzy ones. Ability to get to high places. Also, they stow bigger bags on their hind legs. But man, they go through the fuel.
c) Dragonflies: Sort of like bees. A little different. Probably no exterior pannier storage.
d) Pogo sticks: You know you want them, but the spinach jump means wear & tear.
e) Unicycles: Speedy on the flat, not so good with jumps.
f) Mini-dirigible bicycle -- you can fly, but slowly.
g) Frog-beanie -- I assume it uses some kind of fuel, or advanced levitation skill.

That's enough for the moment: Add your ideas here!

  • Hot air balloon, but I think I like the mini-dirigible bicycle better. I am envisioning something of a steampunk contraption.

  • Hot air balloon is good too!
No reason not to have both!

  • At first I thought Meh.  However the specific ones you named sound awesome!  I want a dragonfly/ bumblebee hybrid.  A beedragon.   Not sure how that would look but I imagine a rather pretty bee with bigger wings.  The only thing is wouldn't the flying sort pretty much kill off the need for spinach.  ( Not that I am complaining)

  • It might kill off the need for spinach.
But in some ways, so does the rainbow potion.
In terms of the living mounts, you keep them fueled with food.
In the mechanical mounts, you keep them repaired.
    So, there is an exchange.
The other bit is how you get them, and put them away.
I'm imagining for the animal mounts, that you would summon the mount (energy cost ala teleport) and then they have a fixed operating time based on how you keep them fed (fueled).
For smaller things like pogo-sticks, I imagine you could have those in your bag, and deploy them (higher energy cost to you, also repair time ala units of wear).
Finally, I would add a new notion:

    h) Piggy saddle.

Wears the pig out, but you get to ride it around until it's tired -- maybe a few streets worth of rapid walking -- but no climbing.

  • It would be also great to add some mounts to move faster. The world is enormous, and it takes a lot of time to explore it on foot.

  • "The world is enormous, and it takes a lot of time to explore it on foot."

mounts wouldn't do much to address that issue, since the reason it feels like it takes so long has more to do with load times than foot speed.

mounts would help, but then you'd be in a situation where traveling would pretty much just be a succession of load screens punctuated by whizzing across a level so quickly that it might as well be a load screen itself.

i like the idea of mounts, and there's been many different types of mounts suggested in many other forum topics over the years, but i don't think overland travel would hugely benefit from increased foot speed. a little bit, sure, but not a lot.

and i say this a someone who uses spinach on pretty much every level as i travel, to go as quickly as possible at all times. makes a difference, but not much of one.

  • A new skill would make it possible to make and be pulled in a piggie troika.

  • I'm always in favour of unicycles. Even if they are no faster but just a subscriber-only enhancement.

  • I'd like a little surfboard with a wave under it that propels me along.

  • Half the point of mounts is to be cool, and themely: For that reason, I have not suggested automobiles.
The other half is to aid in unusual, but not overpowered, methods of travel.
If TS decides to make ocean panels, of course there would be the need for small watercraft. Or at least an excuse for small watercraft.

fwiw, if you are traveling across a street that, for whatever reason, you do not wish to interact with, covering the browser with another app makes your character move MUCH faster, even though you can't see it.

  • Do you think that this could be mixed with potion making?

Or should we have some set of whistling skills?

  • Out of all of these ideas, the one I like most is unicycles, mainly as a fun physics toy. I imagine it like a wobbly QWOP-like challenge. Most of the time you just fall over. (Which would reset you to an upright position, like when you fall into the lava in the Lava Leap race, or between the platforms in that place in the Ilmenskie Caverns.) Sometimes you get lucky and pedal your way down a whole street.

  • I agree - unicycles are best.

  • Hee, piggie saddle! But you'd have to wait every time they paused to wiggle their little bums, or snorfle around for ground-fruit, or just for no dang reason at all. (I'm liking this idea! Auto-LOL for each bum-wiggle!)

You'd have to ask the piggie if you could ride, and he'd decide randomly how far (and where) he's gonna take you. And if you get off before you get there, because the piggie is too slow, he gets sad. Piggie only wants to help!

    O, my lord.
    Freaking game's unplayable.
