Donating Planks

Alright, I have PROOF of the 1/2=1 favor bug. And you can too, if you just follow these simple steps.

Repro Steps
-----------
Go to a shrine
Donate ONE plank
Pause
Donate ONE plank
Pause
Donate TWO planks at the same time

Expected Behavior
-----------------
You now have either two or four more favor than when you started

Actual Behavior
---------------
You have THREE more favor than when you started

And now, a little explanation. I've known about this for a while, but have been unable to conclusively prove it to myself until now. I was 13 favor away from getting an emblem. I donated 20 planks at once and was then 3 favor away. (IE each plank was worth 1/2 favor). Then I donated 3 more planks one at a time and got the emblem (IE each plank was worth 1 favor).

PS - For those of you who haven't been here that long, I first filed a report about this around 6 months ago. Nothing happened. I filed it again about a month ago. Nothing happened. But now, I have proof! PROOF I TELL YOU!

  • You are correct! I noticed it myself with planks and started testing to see if there were any other objects with a 1/2 of decimal on the favor :D Thanks for posting this, saves me trying to figure out the words to explain it when I finally found another item behaving this way.

  • This doesn't seem like a bug to me. It's a rounding issue. I think it happens with many items.

    E.g. if a plank is worth .6:
1 plank donation --> ..6 favor point --> rounded up to 1 favor point
2 plank donation --> 1.2 favor point --> rounded down to 1 favor point

I made up .6... you'd need to donate 10 or 100 to see what the true value is. But the point to me is that the value of an item doesn't need to be an integer... it might be a fractional number. (And also, it wouldn't surprise me if you never get less than 1 favor point for a donation.)

  • Clare, at risk of sounding snarky (which I don't intend), I know that is the root cause of the problem, but it is not the problem itself, so I didn't say it.

  • Oh I agree clare... not so much a bug as an anomaly.

  • But, but, but... I don't understand it as a problem.

Are you saying that items should always be worth at least one favor point, and that everything should always be whole numbers?

Fixing this would probably amount to a form of inflation of everything in the Glitch world, but it would certainly be fixable if it's really that mind boggling.

  • I'm just pointing out an inconsistency in the way favor is awarded at shrines. I personally believe the solution is to not round up when donating individual items. If I donate n planks one at a time, I should get n/2 favor, regardless of how I donate the n planks. But I don't really care what the fix is, as long as I get a consistent result.

  • Again this is getting ignored. PLEASE! HELP!

    That is all. :D

  • Considering this would have a very very minor effect, doesn't seem like much of an issue. I suppose if 1 plank gives 0.6 favor points, you could game the system by donating 1 plank at time. Which is the kind of exploit I'd be fine with. You want to donate one plank at a time, go to it.

  • Not ignored, there are just many to catch up on (forum repots/help cases submitted by players/etc). There might be higher priority things in queue for evaluation, but the observation is appreciated. Thanks! :)
