The Glitch Archaeological Society: Plaques in the Ancestral Caves

Fellow Glitches, I am proud to announce the formation and foundation of the Glitch Archaeological Society for the Research and Publication of Historical Hypotheses!
https://sites.google.com/site/discoverglitch/

Our first project is the exploration and research of the Ancient Lands. In particular, the caves hidden within the small hills dotting the desert landscape have proven rich with information about how our forefathers (and mothers) lived and explored Ur.

On the first of Fever, 24 shiny new paper plaques were created in order to share the results of our findings with Glitches around Ur. We encourage all Glitches to stop and peruse these informational tidbits as they journey through Baquala, Choru, Zhambu, and Xangala. Why not see if you can locate all 24?

If you wish to support the work of the Society and its projects, we are grateful for any and all donations, and they can be sent to our President, Random Ghost.

  • interesting as I've yet to find a single note and visit each of the caves I come across in the Badlands

  • I was there this morning and saw no notes but I didn't explore every cave.  Also, I am sure that the plaques are so interesting and informative that it is probably tempting for Glitchen to collect them as remembrances.  perhaps in the Future more permanent plaques can be adhered to the walls for all to view.

As a former professional archaeologist, I find the ancient artifacts and ruins around Ur very interesting and I have made it a mission to photograph as many of these as I can to document our history and for future study.

  • Wha ...? WTF?

Sigh. I'll replace them by end of Glitch day. Sorry, Mz.

    Also, so much +1, Brib!

  • I saw quite a few on my journey through this morning, and found them to be quite adorable/funny/informative depending on the plaque ;) Not to mention there were no troublesome grammatical or spelling errors :P

Very interesting project! It'd be quite nice if stoot gave you the power to adhere your plaques to the wall ;) *hint hint*

  • I've found Plaques 1, 2, 4 and 14 so far...

  • Perhaps, since this idea literally has Stoot's blessing, there could one day be permanent plaques installed in these caves... ;)

  • The not-removable plaque idea would be wonderful considering it's been about 8 hours and I had to replace 13 note-plaques already.

The Society is reviewing this issue of vandalism very seriously, but unfortunately the Society does have responsibilities during the day, so plaque replacement will be as frequent as the Society can manage. We apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Perhaps you can publish the plaques on your WEB page.  Notes do eventually disintegrate so even if nobody removes them, they will disappear after a while.

  • I second the notion for permanent plaques. Also, will we investigate the ancient ruins scattered throughout Ur? Like the headstones and the sculpted heads? Those are enchanting.

  • I found one that told me I didn't want to know what happened in that cave I got scared and ran away O.O

  • If you don't want your stuff stolen, don't leave it on the ground!
    Wait, wrong thread.
And this is why we need lockable objects of some kind.

  • I dread to think the litter-ridden result if anyone could lock down their notes in public places.

    Enjoyed these archeological items, though!

  • I love this! Have stumbled across a couple so far in my travels...lovely and made me laugh! Have linked to the website and can hardly wait for more content to be added! Thanks for all the hard work this must entail!

  • I've found several in the AL caves, and have somehow miraculously resisted my packrat tendencies to pick them up, and instead left them for others to enjoy. I esp loved the one indicating that our ancestors seemed to have been arguing over a vine...kudos to a brilliant addition to Glitch culture. :D

  • I found Plaque 21 in Baqala - I think several other plaques may have wandered off. should there be one in every hill-cave?

  • I like this idea very much! I have noticed pictographs in various places around Ur, so this is a logical step!

    Nicely done, Random Ghost! :)

  • Oh, hey! Random Ghost, might we include you as a stop on Grand as a tourist attraction for archaeological studies? We're trying to add more items of interest for those travelling around Ur and help promote cool things players are doing in the game world.

  • Thank you so much everyone for your kind words! I'm so glad people are enjoying this!

After much lengthy deliberation, the Society has decided to deal with the issue of vanishing plaques the same way they deal with every issue: sending it to an endless sub-committee wherein it will hopefully vanish. Meanwhile they are moving on to the next set of projects, which will involve updating the website and doing even more investigative archaeological researching in a new location, which may or may not be in Mazza'la.

    More specific responses:

The reason I didn't initially put the notes up on the site was that I liked the idea of a mystery. Posting something funny is all well and good, but I hoped that saying something funny could be found somewhere and not being specific was more interactive and rewarding, and it sounds like people enjoyed that. So expect any future research to work in a similar way: the general location will be announced, but specific locations will only be posted after anyone who wants the mystery has time to go find it.

Moehr Ossum, you're more than welcome to include the caves as a stop, but I'm not going to continuously replace the notes, so you'll have to refer to the website. It'll probably get updated this week with the notes.

Brib Annie - may the Society link to your Flickr on the webpage? Your photos would be a beautiful addition to the historical documentation collection.

I absolutely agree that creating a way of locking down notes would be a disaster, but the Society hopes that if it can prove its usefulness to the Glitch community, the powers-that-develop might grant them some sort of magic powers of exceptions. ^_^

  • Some Grendelian Stones artifacts may be of interest to your archaeological endeavors. Currently I only remember seeing them in Anrasan Glance, but there might be more in some other places.
