Players Think Currants Are More Important Than They Really Are
I would like to see design modifications implemented to fix this. My first idea is to have the The Rube make better trades to people carrying less money. Any other ideas, all you glitchen?
it is easy for new players (like myself) to assume from playing other mmo's that making currants is always worthwhile. maybe there could be a currant cap? could be the number you own, but could be the number you can gain or spend per day (eg the limit on quoins), including from auctions.
another thought is maybe social actions could allow players to purchase hard-to-obtain things for cheaper, reducing the need for currants in the first place and rewarding non-wealth-focused actions. edit: social currant-cy anyone? :p
I don't know about the currant limit. I would imagine that people will figure out that currant-wealth isn't the point eventually, and calculating a limit that includes auction purchases somehow seems particularly like a crapshoot- how is that supposed to be calculated, or would a player only be allowed a certain amount per gameday in auction?
I've said it before elsewhere and I'll say it again- I know that certain aspects of others' gameplay can be misguided, but I'm all for as little regulation as possible. Glitch is supposed to be a player-driven game- so penalizing a player for driving their own gameplay (however mistaken their assumptions might be) only serves to keep people from making their own fun... which makes the game as a whole a lot less fun.
Don't limit the Currants, and don't make it so Rube trades better to those with less Currants. If the players just "think" they're worth more than they are, let them do so. It won't affect anyone else.
+1 to the last two replies. i've seen a lot of posts on the forum recently where players think that other players are somehow playing the game in the wrong way. currants have a different value to each person. to you, Spittle Gauze, clearly they're not an important part of gameplay. great! for me, i like amassing currants even though i know there's nothing much to be done with them yet, i have fun doing it, and i'm interested in what will happen to the glitch economy. it doesn't hurt you in any way, shape, or form that i place more value on currants than you deem appropriate.
you let me play how i want, i let you play how you want.
To the extent that acquiring anything available for sale in the auction house is valuable, currants are valuable. Changing the way the Rube works doesn't really do much to alter the value of currants since those items will still be available in the auction house. If you actually want to make currants less valuable, the solution is to make more items non-auctionable. NOT that I support that (except possibly in the case of keys).
Players Think Bananas Are More Important Than They Really Are
I think there's a real problem going on whereby people value the bananas in the game more than they should. Occasionally, the Rube should tell players, "Hey man, bananas are no big deal. Get over it." Also, do not allow players to possess more than a fixed number of bananas. I'm open to other suggestions, possibly a place where people could destroy bananas in exchange for favor with a giant.
@desdemona, whoa there, I'm not saying anything about the way you should play, or the way I should play. In fact, I could easily be talking about myself as being too obsessed with currants - you don't know me enough to say anything about the way I play. I've never met you and I'm sure you're a lovely person, but I can assure you unless we meet, I'm sorry to say I have no interest, or awareness, of your play style at all. To be honest, I thought this was a forum for ideas entirely out of the random depths of imagination rather than actual feature requests that people would take seriously and be angry about. Should have read more threads before posting, I guess.
@Lara, tone can be hard to read via text, but i don't mean to come off as mean (though my comment was also more directed at the OP than you) :) i've just seen a lot of posts recently where people seem to want to regulate how other players do this or that thing, and it seems silly. we all have different interests when it comes to Glitch, no one's way is THE way.
but as i said, i was more directing my comments at the OP, who did state that they wanted to see changes implemented to essentially penalize those of us who consider currants to be important.
Some people play the market, some people play the game.
One isn't better than the other, nor is one the right way over the other. It's an MMO that features a live market, where people can sell items and buy items, with currants. Technically the only thing currants are "good" for is buying/selling things on the AH, buying items from vendors, and buying a home for yourself. Once you've got a 50k home, the end of the road deal, currants aren't worth more than to buy energy for yourself.
The problem is, as far I am seeing, is that there is an undertone of envy and people don't acknowledge it. When someone makes a killing in the market, they are treated like a lesser person. "that player has no life, and doesn't know how to have fun, like me" kind of attitude. I for one, thinks it needs to stop.
If someone is making more currants than someone else, so what? Let them, it's their passion, and desire to play a video game the way they want to.
First, I don't want to put on a currant limit or anything like that. If you have read any of the text in the game, though, you know the developers try to convey a sense of community and ownership that is direct opposition to currants and wealth. What I really was looking for is ways to give something nice to new/bad/poor players, since that would make the game more fun for them and give them some kind of advantage over people that have been playing for a long time. I'm not sure how you interpreted my message as having any desire to destroy your fun, desdemona. It does suggest that Glitch could use some help pointing players in the direction of "fun" since no one needs any help being encouraged to collect money.
Oh, and Deedle, bananas totally works too for what I am saying. Just when was the last time you heard someone complain about how few bananas they have (in game or outside of game)? The last time you heard someone want money? I thought so.
