New Portals in glitch

I just saw a portal in torpan cleft, I really like the idea, but I think it would be much better if portal looked bigger like a real stargate, with an ancient look with some herbs growing on the sides. Also would be cool if we could make puzzles or push triggers to choose the location, with giant symbols or something.

  • I would prefer a Nether portal if anything.

The portal, for those who haven't seen it yet.

Has anyone seen more than just the one between Torpan Cleft and Empty Via 6?

  • The portal seems to be a pretty cool to have. I would like to know more about how we can obtain it. I agree with arizoo on the Stargate look!

  • yep, I just saw now, that they are made from potions.

  • So, for a potion thing its pretty cool and because its random, we could have stargate portals too, were we choose the locations... like use potions to random places and stargates to specific ones.

  • just found one in zaruu zilch that goes to isalan interval.

so are the portals random? meaning you can create a door where you want but you can't control where it ends up? surely it would have to be like that or teleporting will become useless.

  • I still want to know how long these portals last.  I imagine it's something like an hour, but I'd like to know for certain.

  • Haw, I love the Quantum Leap reference in the Glitch Encyclopedia entry on Potions. %)

  • Kid4today, when you "pour" a Door Drink, one end of the portal establishes where you are and the other end is random :) And I don't have firm data on duration, the one I made yesterday lasted at least three hours, but elsewhere on the forum someone's lasted about ten minutes. That may be random as well.

  • Curious, are the portals 2-way?...... when you arrive at your random destination, is there a portal to return?
Posted 12 months ago by Herbasaurus Rex Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, the portals are two-way. At least, the one I happened upon the other day was.

  • The destination is not random, but rather the location of the previous pour. If I pour one at location A and then someone pours at location B, they will be linked by a 2-way door. When someone pours at location C, location A disappears and B and C are now joined. The earliest location poured always seems to be the one to disappear.

Faereulth and I joined Neva Neva and Ajaya Bliss yesterday for about 15 glorious minutes of mining solidarity.

I'd like to see someone come up with a fun game or event based on this behavior, as they are otherwise worthless and unreliable.

  • Joe, how will more than 2 doors be able to exist if a 3rd door will always make the 1st one disappear?
Posted 12 months ago by TomC Subscriber! | Permalink
  • From what I've been able to tell with limited testing is that there's only two doors that are possible at a given time. They are universal in nature, in that anyone's pour will affect anyone elses. So you can't use them to permanently link your street to a tool vendor as a means of cheap teleportation, since someone else will screw that up with their next pour.

I'd love to see the doors be unique to me, and only my pours would change the destination. Though, there'd be a lot of doors just lying around then.

I suppose when more people have potionmaking 2, we'll be able to get more details. See you in 5+ days :(

  • Ahhhh, I was wondering about that.  There used to be one up here in Muufo in one of the caves, but it seems to have disappeared.  But if there can only be two doors in the Urniverse, then that makes sense that the wormhole would move.

  • Also, each bottle has 3 pours.
Posted 12 months ago by Joe Blow Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Woah I never thought about it that way. Only 2 doors in the entire world of Ur, I felt like there were more haha.

But I wonder if you're on a street with the oldest door, and someone pours a 3rd door making the one you are seeing disappear, since the game doesn't refresh while you're still on the street, would there technically be many doors still "existing" in each player's particular instance hmm. You'd be going to a completely different place, but when there are more people it sounds like the server could even get confused if 50 new doors are created in the same second.

  • I can see them being good for quickly moving groups of friends if you coordinate a pour on either end.  I had fun freaking people out with them Saturday night though.
Posted 12 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The game doesn't need to refresh for the door to disappear.

Though we did notice that if people have come through the door but not back, and then you pour another, the third door stays until those people return.  Or at least it appeared to.

Since we're kinda sorta supposed to be testing and stuff, pouring 50 doors at the same moment might be a good idea just to see what happens.

  • Ah I see, thanks for the info. Yeah I would love to see if a group of people can all coordinate a simultaneous pouring!
Posted 12 months ago by TomC Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If that behavior is really how it works, it *could* be used to move a large party relatively cheaply.

member of large party pours potion.  opens door to somewhere.

person at desired destination pours potion.   door is now open to large party.  everyone rushes through.

  • it might also be interesting to see if doors can be opened to a.bliss in this manner.
Posted 12 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • WalruZ - from my post above:

"Faereulth and I joined Neva Neva and Ajaya Bliss yesterday for about 15 glorious minutes of mining solidarity"

    So...yes :)
Posted 12 months ago by Joe Blow Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So a large mining party could assemble outside a.bliss and one person inside could open a door for all of them to come through.   who needs keys?
Posted 12 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • WalruZ, when more people have potions and the frequency increases, a plan like that could easily be interrupted. It's also nowhere near as convenient as keys, since only 2 doors would exist at any given time.

  • Has anyone tried pouring more than one portal on the same street?
ie 3-5 people each pouring a portal about the same time to see if they all stay or if they loop back to that same street or if they disappear in sequence would all of them end up on the same street or each be random???
Posted 12 months ago by BlackWolf Subscriber! | Permalink
  • if you pour it on the same street, the door leads to the other door on that street.
Posted 12 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I saw two doors in the same subway station yesterday- one said it led to another street, the other one said the destination was not yet locked? So there CAN be more than two in the whole world?

  • There's a portal in the Somewhat Slump subway station but it doesn't go anywhere.  :/

  • I saw the one at Somewhat Sump - "Destination no created yet".

  • Trying to wrap my brain around the 2-door max that has been suggested.

By that scenario: 4 People pouring a door (very close in time to each other) would remove the first 2, whereby the first two pour their doors again which results in the latter two disappearing and the cycle continues until the first two are out of pours. And only the final two get to go somewhere. Also, this requires that at least two people pour a door in order for a door to even work, yes?

Seems neat at the start here, but once a good number of people can make portals, no one will be able to use one (provided the third door's creation, in fact, makes the first disappear).

  • Two pours are required to complete an origin and destination set. My tests yesterday were with a friend, and we were always linked together after pouring in 2 separate locations.

My first pour initially had no destination (similar to the Somehwat door description), so I had to pour again. I happened to pour the second time directly next to the first pour, so the journey wasn't very exciting, but the doors were linked. A third pour on a different street by my friend resulted in the first door disappearing, and the second and third doors to be linked. Subsequent 2-pour tests between the two of us were also linked, as we each poured one time in the sparkly locked door locations and were connected after doing so.

The fact that there is another door without a destination implies that there are now likely multiple sets of doors. The one at Somewhat appears to be waiting on another pour to set the destination.

    I need more door potion!
