Here's an awful idea...

We've got two house types - Bog with herb plots and Everywhere Else with crop gardens.
Crops can be bought at produce vendors but herbs can only be bought from other players directly or at auction. Wouldn't it be "fairer" if the produce from both types of garden were only available from other players? Even the seeds are available in an unbalanced way - crops from gardening vendors and herbs from the Ancestral Lands if you're lucky.

I'd like to see swapping arrangements spring up with bog dwellers getting their crops from friends in return for herbs.

I know every player would like to be able to grow both crop types but an interesting dynamic would emerge if players had to follow separate paths and cooperate to complete quests etc.

  • ...as a bog dwelling miner this would really hurt me - imagine cabbages costing 300c at auction!

  • Sure it would be interesting dynamic but at the same time half the people won't be completing these quests then, because there are a lot of players that have a solo play style and don't want to be forced to rely on others.

  • Well the vendors are been eradicated ts have already said as they want everything eventually to become player produced

  • I don't want to *have* to follow separate paths. I want to choose what path(s) to follow.

  • Why don't we just have herb vendors? Or put the herbs in the produce vendors?
Although at the same time it's really up to the player whether they choose to max in herbs or crops. However if we have to really live in seperate areas to grow different stuff things like potion making should be available earlier for those who prefer herbs

This is what the auction house is for. I game alone for the most part and I wouldn't want to have to wait and rely on connections with other people to get stuff. It would make me play less. It just sounds complicated and inconvenient.

I rather see herb seeds in vendors

  • There are some low level recipies that get out of whack when veggies are not available for relatively cheap price from a vendor, but other than that, I highly support getting rid of the veggie vendors. The current situation trivializes veggies really - just buy a full stack & go on with life.

Keep in mind, veggie yeilds are pretty much 10x per plot than herbs, so expect open market prices to be considerably less.

  • I agree with you <3 Lei Lei <3 i don't want to have to rely on another player either.

i've never been on the auction so i don't know how thing are on there. Perhaps it might be better to just abolish veggie vendors. Although vendors are easier for noobs to find out about than the auction.

  • I think of the food items as being pretty basic. You need them for energy and you need energy to do just about anything in the game. It makes sense to me that you can get veggies really easily and that herbs, which provide special buffs and powers, are more rare.
Herbs require more care and you have to destroy some of your crops to keep them going. For me, I really like the experience of having to care for them and even though it's a bit tedious, I like the planning - managing seeds, deciding what to shuck, etc. It's a different gaming experience than having food crops and I'd think the developers would want to provide multiple experience options to users.
Maybe for crops there could be a distribution system outside of the auction where some kind of farmers market is filled up or supplied by players? It seems to be going in that direction with changes to the trading system anyway.

  • The reason crops are for sale from vendors is they are used for food which ie a necessity while herbs are used for novelties and luxuries.
