ideas for groups

1] coat of arms

one thing i've noticed in glitch is a lack of group or user icons. avatars should work fine for users, but groups might also need visual identifiers. for example, to visually mark a group owned teleporter, house etc. or to appear on group uniforms, pins, sashes.

the current system for generating personal avatars is really slick .. maybe a similar system for creating a group 'coat of arms' from a variety of components?

2] group houses

i'm pretty sure these are already in the works, but a place to communally hoard items and currants would be really cool. maybe by using a piggy bank!

3] work parties

taking the "following" to the next level. following someone could grant the leader the ability to use any skill that a follower possesses. also, perhaps, the ability to use an item from a follower's pack [upon approval].

this might provide incentive to band together into work parties, and give followers some time to relax and socialize while still accruing XP and 'getting things done'. it might also be much, much less tedious than achieving the same end by constantly trading items back and forth.

4] assembly pendants

a group member could call an "assembly" by going to a group owned teleporter and activating it. all group members wearing a "group pendant" would be presented with the option of teleporting to the assembly point.

  • 5] large things and moon shot

    it would be neat if there were certain large items or quests that could only be completed as a group. i'm thinking building a huge multi level tall rocket that would send a handful of players to the moon, once, where they could collect rare items and screen captures of the environment for return to the ground. the actual building of the rocket would require immense effort that could only be managed by a large group.

    similar large items might include large buildings, sailing ships, and large animals like elephants and brontosaurs.

  • 4b] alternate assembly offers

    I found I had trouble orienting myself enough to find where others were, and wasn't able to converge with others to cooperate on doing anything. If the "4] assembly pendant" is too advanced for early implementation, perhaps just some way to send a ping to all your friends or people in a group you're part of, asking for volunteers to converge somewhere (offering a teleport?) or offering your services if they're working on anything at the moment. (Which raises the question of whether it's possible to send messages to offline friends/group members from in-game, which they will receive when they arrive later?)

    6] project tracking device

    Some way to keep track of group progress on construction or joint projects would be nifty, so those of us who aren't playing as much could arrive later and work on some unfinished part of a group project solo -- with worldwide timezones, some of us will be playing while others are snoring, we won't often be in-world all at the same time, so we'd need some way to leave bits of things for other group members to pick up and continue working on.

    7] apprentice training

    Perhaps group members who have high skill levels could have some way of transferring some of that skill to apprentices through repetitive activities or other mini-quests which they could assign.
