What's up with the bizarre auctions?

I am confused as to why people are auctioning off the Series 2 cubimals for more than their purchase price. Are people actually paying 2 to 3 times more than their worth rather than just go to a toy vendor?

  • Just because something is in the auction doesn't mean it will sell...and just because someone posts in the auction doesn't mean they know the going rate, and frankly some folks think they can scam other players in the auctions...

  • One thing you have to consider with this is that cubimals are not all the same rarity, so some you can expect to buy 20 or more boxes to get one.  That makes the "price" of them higher.   And if you want one in particular, it can be worth paying more to eliminate the element of chance.

  • These are unopened boxes (not rare toys) listed for many times the in-world price; you'll notice of course that they aren't selling at those prices.

  • Same with buying other stuff, you always see a person or two trying to double or triple the price of something. Some even buy up everyone else's stuff, and resells it for higher to try and make a bigger buck.

  • I really have no problem if someone sells something for double, triple, quadruple or even sometimes more the suggested value', especially if it requires gathering or making something, that maybe I don't want to spend the time to do.  However, purchasing something from a vendor and then trying to sell it for a much higher price, just seems silly and a waste of their time and mine.

It might be different if it is something I might need to purchase without moving from my location (this was especially helpful during the old street projects when you needed certain ingredients to make other things needed in the project), but I can't think of too many times right now, that reselling vendor items is all that needed...so higher prices don't make much sense in this case.

I also don't really have a problem with folks that are buying low and selling higher...if the market allows for it...well, then that's the market.  The prices really are driven by the buyers, not the sellers...

  • Thanks for the information! So, basically a resell at enormous profit to try and trick it out of unaware Glitchen. Noice!

  • That strategy isn't very effective now because most of the players are long-timers, but it may improve once new players enter the game.
