Game Play Tips and Tricks- Please Share!

I'm sure a lot of people have a lot of different things they do to improve their Glitching experience. I'm hoping we might share some tips and tricks...

For Example: Last night I discovered that if I drag one bean into every slot of one bag, one cherry into every slot of the next, one meat into every slot of another and so on and so forth before I go harvesting, my bags will sort themselves and stay organized.

I mentioned this on chat, and while some people said they do this already, a lot of people thought it was the best idea they'd heard all day. So it makes me wonder, what kind of things are you doing?  There might be things that seem obvious to you, that others have not thought of yet.

  • A tiresome but helpful thing most of us do (I think) is start the play with Bag Organization.  I also often end my play with that as well.  How it gets disorganized btween when I leave and when I return is a mystery.  I start by dropping, storing or eating anything that is not needed for my daily plan.  The rest I organize according to what i will be doing.  The first bag contains all my donation and sale items.  When I leave my house I go to the vendor and sell then I go to a shrine and donate.  This clears out Bag #1.  If I plan on going to the bogs, I place my firefly jars in Bag #1.  If I am going mining I place my earthshakers and Flaming Humbabas in Bag #1.  Bag #2 contains meat and crabato and other foods and drinks.  Bag #3 has fruit, paper, grain, eggs, anything that can be harvested.  On and on.  I also make sure that each bag has at least one of what I will be collecting in order to keep things organized.  By the time I finish my daily tour bags have filled and items have moved into other bags so that when I get home I need to organize again.

    I am hoarding building items, those things that were used for street projects.  I am guessing that they will be needed to build and decorate my new house (I could be wrong).  it took only the Herb "fun" to make me decide to be prepared for the future.  I had sold or donated all of my seeds and herbs in the past and had none when the Tinctures and Potions were added.  I don't want to go through that agony when the new housing is added.  All of my building supplies are stored in large bags in my cabinet and each bag is named appropriately.  I am not making blocks because I do not know which kind(s) or how many I will need.  I am storing the items to make them in the future.  If building items are not needed for the house, I will have a large source of instant income of currants.

    I may sound organized but for some unknown reason I can never find a thing.

    I also have a daily "plan".  I decide what I need and organize my bags for that.  I decide where I have to go to get what I need and then begin my daily travels through Ur.  This saves a lot of random wandering.  I get tired after about an hour so I want to be able to do as much as I can before I quit for a bit.

    So far organization and planning has made my play more efficient and more profitable a slightly less tiring.  I do sometimes just immediately set out with no plan, no organization and just do whatever I think of and go wherever my whim takes me.  I have few, if any, tricks but I advise that you at least decide what you want to do and organize your bags for best use.

  • Well I am going to post two things that other players helped me learn.
    To find toolboxes at hardwear vemdors you have to scroll down.

    Also, spam chicken and get grain much faster as you are running by.

  • My biggest tip would be to take advantage of the cooperative aspects of gameplay - it's very rewarding, and not just on an in-game level.

  • I improve my Glitching experience by doing the things I feel like doing and not bothering with planning or organizing.

  • I start the day by repairing my tools and harvesting from the house (whatever is ready).  Then I hit the community gardens for the chickens and piggies and whatever is harvestable (replanting what I harvest, plus 1) and water everything that needs it (getting several music boxes) ... then it's on to whatever I'm looking for. As I pass anything, I harvest it for sale or use.

    On fireflies: you can harvest more than once on a street IF you look for a swarm with at least 5 or 6 big glowing flies or a whole lot of smaller ones.  I've been getting multiple harvests off of most streets.

    Piggies that are "all nibbled out" ... PET them, then drop a grain for them (just one). If they say YUM they can be nibbled.

  • I've got a bag at my house with one of each emblem so that I can pick it up and :::click, "C", click, "C"....all the way across the row, then the same with "O" and "N".  It's not revolutionary, but I find myself using my emblems much more often since I started doing it (and adding up all 11 means about an icon's worth of energy, mood, and xp...all without any tithes!)

  • Turn off the sound effects when you're feeding piggies to get seeds. I think the clicks are actually timed to slow you down; instead, use visual cues -- you can go *much* more quickly, and have fewer problems / accidents.

    Also, if you begin to get double-keying in the number area (33 instead of 3, for instance), reload the game in the browser.

  • Auto-walk
    Go to the map. Click on the street that you want to travel to. Choose "set as destination." Then, click on the large black arrow in the "Destination" box that is now in the upper right corner of your play screen. This walks you automatically to the next signpost (it does not jump for you, however). I didn't know about clicking that black arrow for quite some time, and now I don't know what I ever did without it!

  • Auto walking works to get anywhere on the map, not just from end to end. However, you will not jump or climb.

  • How do you spam chicken?
    Posted 10 months ago by Peachesan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Enter enter enter enter enter!
    Posted 10 months ago by CrashTestPilot Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you're nibbling piggies, spam enter at that spot and keep on pressing 'n' on your keyboard.
    Watch out for butterflies though.

    For butterflies, do the same thing, but press 'k' instead.

  • Feed a single zucchini to a pig who cannot be nibbled and he will be full. You may need to pet him, but not always, and a single zucchini will always be enough food.

    Use your keyboard instead of your mouse for many tasks: you'd be surprised how much quicker and easier it can be. For example, after clicking the arrow destination arrow as described in Baby Carrot's tip above you can quickly activate spinach to radically improve your speed you can simply type B Enter C Enter B (if the spinach was the last thing you clicked) and poof, you're zipping along. You can do it while you're in the air jumping, too. It's especially useful in the Ancestral Lands.

    Similarly for the Emblem tip submitted by Becca Rice you can avoid the mouse and speed things up a great deal by first hitting B (for Bag), then Enter C Enter O Enter N D -- the "D" moves the selection to the next bag to the right. Within 30 seconds you'll have eeked out everything the emblems provide for the day.

  • Is there a master list of the keyboard shortcuts for doing stuff? I've looked, but to no avail...
    Posted 10 months ago by Abby Cadabra Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Keyboard shortcuts off the top of my head:

    General
    Esc = Escape (dismiss) most windows and menus.
    F = Familiar, opening and closing the Magic Rock window
    L = Quest Log

    Movement
    A = Left
    D = Right
    W = Up
    S = Down
    Notice that these form an upside-down T shape, just like the arrow keys, and work the same way.
    Enter = Select nearby highlighted items. If more than one item is highlighted, use ADWS to move the selection highlight and press Enter again to select the item. Esc to dismiss the multiple-selection window instead of selecting something.
    Space = Jump (obviously)

    Bags
    B = Select Bags or stop selecting bags
    A = Move selection left
    D = Move selection right
    W = Open (up) the selected bag and move the selection up
    S = Close bag if a bag is selected, or move the selection from the contents of a bag to the bag itself if the highlight is inside a bag.
    Enter = Open the menu for a selected item.

    Item Menus
    Menu shortcuts vary significantly from item to item. If a shortcut is available its letter will be underlined in the menu. Sometimes the choices seem capricious, but the general rules are that the shortcuts above cannot be used (ASDWFBL) and the same letter isn't used twice (so C can't be used for Consider and Contemplate).

  • I thought when you saw a chicken, you move your mouse near the chicken and there will be a grain icon appears above the chicken and just click a few times, you get the grains.

  • Say KFC around CHICKENS and the whole lot of'em flee.*

    Interact with a butterfly [ enter key ] then click inside [ local chat box ] then back in-game and the butterfly follows you... you can add more butterflies if you like. When you jump up & down it looks like a butterfly ballet. *:) Once by mistake the butterfly had me following it, that was too funny; not sure how that happened.

  • The "B" keyboard shortcut to activate your bag is a lifesaver,  mainly when feeding baby chickens the seventy squillion bits of grain they need  to grow.  Press B,  go to the grain, then ENTER ENTER ENTER ENTER

  • To open the search box, press the "back tick"/Tilde key (just below Esc on most keyboards)
    You must be  out of chat for this to work.

  • Useful when piggies are not on your level or for a pigpen, AND IF your animal skills are high enough.

    Move your mouse over a piggy ... the broken heart appears.
    Click the heart to pet the piggy.
    Mouse over piggy again: click the meat icon to nibble
    Mouse over piggy again: click the meat icon to nibble
    If the piggy gives you the "all nibbled out", drop one grain in front of it. When it says "yum", you can nibble.

  • For noobs, when you are getting current bonuses for each new level, get established early with this:
    1 - don't bother with the cheap bags, buy a tool box and a couple of bigger bags as soon as you can.
    2 - buy tools, even if you don't have the skill to use all of them yet

  • If you keep one bag slot open at all times, new stacks will automatically go to that slot, and you can sort them to the bag you like. Also by leaving a bag slot open you will always be able to pick up a bag.

    If a pig refuses to be nibbled saying, "Meat Out!" Feed it one meat and you will be able to nibble normally. Feeding 10 grain does not have the same affect, haven't tried other vegetables.

  • Toonix: Dropping one grain on the ground for the piggy works as well as feeding one meat using the menu.

  • If you run off of a ledge, and hit jump as you're falling as opposed to while you're still on the ledge, your character will jump while in the air. Especially useful for reaching platforms that are further away.:)

  • an easy way to feed batterflys.     Position yourself in a nice open area.  When a batterfly comes by, drag your target food from your inventory to the batterfly.  If you 'hit' the batterfly (it's pretty easy) you'll see the "Feed what amount" dialog, AND the batterfly will fly back/down to hover over your head and drop the resulting poop at your feet.   You can pretty much always then drag the same food back to the batterfly before it has a chance to leave the screen.   This is more reliable over the long run than the "press enter while they're still close" method, and much simpler than chasing them around and hopping and pressing enter.

  • To feed batterflys:
    Jump up under a batterfly, ENTER to select, W or up to select feed, click on meat, 10 enter, repeat. Just keep your mouse pointer at the same place and just slam it down.

  • OH ... and you can sort of steer yourself while falling by using the L and R arrow keys

  • How do you drag a single bean? It always takes my whole stack.

  • I second Tanga's question. I'm also curious as to whether I'm the only person that feeds a 'nibbled out' piggy 3 veggies? Then you get a seed plop AND you can nibble! Lol.

  • Open additional TABs to access info you need.  I often have the Wiki or Encyclopedia or another helpful page or site with Glitch info open in another TAB.  Also when I was doing Completist badges I had the Locations open in a second TAB.  Like Parties?  Join a Party Group and help plan and and prepare.  Keep the Group open in a TAB so you can follow the info.  The same goes for all Groups.  If your Group is doing something, keep them open in a TAB and follow their Live Chat.

  • Single item stacks

    Fastest way is if you have a cabinet.
    ● Open the cabinet
    ● Drop all except one of the item you want to make multiple 1-item stacks of
    ● Place item in cabinet slot
    ● Close cabinet
    ● Pick up one of the item you want to make multiple 1-item stacks of
    ● Open the cabinet
    ● Drag the 1-stack item you placed in the cabinet into an empty inventory slot
    ● Repeat the procedure as necessary to get the desired number of 1-item stacks

  • It is much easier to raise a chicken from a chick by dropping it on the ground first. Enter, up arrow, enter, enter.

  • Another way to seed your bags using the keyboard.

    Find an empty area. Private is best but public is fine.

    Open the bag containing the stack of seed items. Click on the stack and choose drop, and drop just one.

    Now use the keyboard: D D D (moves you over a few steps). B Enter R D Enter B (drops one item from the stack).

    Repeat that step until you run out of space. Open your bag to be seeded and drag single items into the empty slots. Repeat as necessary.
