I'm tired of being yelled at...

Please be aware that not every person who joins Rook Alerts knows that it is an incident only group.  Sometimes people ask questions in there because they don't know.  If I see a question that I know the answer to, I will probably answer.  It will be a short answer, and if it needs more information I will IM the asker.  I've seen many non-alert comments or questions in there.  I don't see the need to yell at people that "THIS IS FOR ALERTS ONLY".  That's not helpful.  There is no need to be so rude to people who might be there for the first time or might not know the protocol.

Sorry if I seem curt and put out, but two times I have tried to answer a question for someone, and two times I've been ALL CAPPED!

I am also sorry if this is a topic that has already been addressed.  Thank you for your time.  I feel better already.

  • Sorry to hear that happened to you.  Courtesy sometimes seems in short supply both in Ur and IRL.

  • The group's forum is probably the best place for this post, since group members may not read the general forum; however, the description of the group says, "Please use this chat room only to alert of an attack," and also, "Please also consider joining the Rook Chat {Non-Alert} Group if you would like live help with your Rook related questions."  Of course, there's no need for anyone to be rude, but the people giving the reminders are probably thinking that you're being rude when you don't follow the rules.

  • Glum basically beat me to it, but courtesy goes both ways. This group is explicit in what it expects of its members, that being that they use the group exclusively to announce rook attacks. Plenty of people join this group specifically so they don't have to see friendly, helpful people like yourself answer the same few questions all day long. As Glum said they also provide a separate group to do exactly what you wanted to do, discuss various aspects of rook attacks.

"Being new" is not an excuse. What you are saying with that is that you are so lazy that you lacked the courtesy to read the three sentences that clearly spell out the expectations of this group.

The appropriate response to anything other than an alert is exactly what you got, a clear and direct correction of inappropriate behavior.

  • I have to agree with the comments--I depend on Rook Alerts to do one thing and one thing only: Notify me about actual rook attacks. The purpose of the group is spelled out in the description of the group. The expectation is that if you joined the group, you'd know that--and also know that there is a non-alert group where questions can be asked and answered. That said, two wrongs don't make a right, and responding in all caps may be over the top. But, really, the only appropriate response to general conversation in the rook alert space is a *very* short one one, noting the purpose of the channel and, perhaps directing them to the appropriate channel. If you answer the question, all you are doing is encouraging inappropriate behavior, which then means you are now part of the problem.
