Angry about upgrades

Why, why, why do I have to start every upgrade day with the cards I didn't want the day before?

It makes no sense at all.   If I didn't want them yesterday I am not likely to want them immediately afterwards!

Why can we not choose to reject a card for a set period, say one week?

I have had the same few cards over and over and none of the ones I want and need.  I know (hope) that this will even out in time, but there are far too many cards I don't want and few that I do, the chances of my getting the latter seem to be vanishingly small!

I have to use my one shuffle before I even start to choose, because the cards are identical to the previous days, this is extremely annoying!!!

I do not have unlimited time to play, I cannot log in every day, at this rate it will take me years to even have a chance at some of the things I really want.

Please please please can we choose to reject a card for a set period so that we don't get it dealt in every single hand!!!!!

  • Stoot already said somewhere that the reason for this is that some people may be saving a card for later when they can afford it, and would be pissed if it disappeared at new day.

  • +1 Shepherdmoon

I know I would be upset if I couldn't save up for a large card - one redeal a day is more than generous - and with reshuffle cards it stays fair.

  • Yes, now that I've blown through all my bulk iMG I had from the changeover, I'm more than happy that my cards don't change at the end of the day. In fact, I think I would be a little enraged if they did. XD

  • Cassandria: "Why, why, why do I have to start every upgrade day with the cards I didn't want the day before?  " + "I have to use my one shuffle before I even start to choose, because the cards are identical to the previous days, this is extremely annoying!!!"

You can get new cards every game day: that's what the shuffle is. You just have to press a button, rather than have it happen automatically — because (a) that way you can see it happen and (b) if you wanted one of the cards currently in your hand when the new day hit, it wouldn't be taken away from you.

  • Exactly, what if you were saving up? They should be saved, correct? Maybe 100k fee for another reshuffle will do. :)

  • I am sorry, but if I wanted the card I would buy it.  If I didn't buy it that is because I didn't want it.  Why is in in my hand again the next time?  That makes no sense to me.

Why does it then re-appear in the next hand?  That is seriously annoying and is truly putting me off the game.  I have been playing since the beginning of Alpha and this is the worst thing I have ever endured in the game.

I hate that we have no choice at all which cards and skills we choose.  I could wait forever for some of the things I want at this rate!

Please let us have some element of choice as to the frequency with which we are presented with a card, some system which prevents the same card coming up over and over and over!

  • If you are saving for a card then you would not choose to limit its appearance, but if you do not want it, probably ever (as is the case for me with the Rube cards) then the choice to limit its appearance is really necessary I feel.

  • What if I have zero Imagination and saving up?
Posted 7 months ago by AwesomeCardinal2000 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Cassandria, imagine the following scenarios:

    1) You log on 2 minutes before the new day and check your cards shortly before then. You find one you really want, but just when you're about to buy it the new day happens and it disappears, to be replaced by something else.

    2) You are either a new player that doesn't have a vast amount of imagination saved up, or you have spent most of your imagination pool so you don't have enough to buy some massive upgrade that is very expensive (say, 100,000 imagination for a big rare one that you really want). You need to go out and make some more imagination so you can afford it, but the new day happens before you can, and now you lost that card. Who knows when you will see it again?

Stoot makes a good point: the reshuffle is the same as having the cards reset each day, but you control whether or not it happens.

  • Also, re-reading your post, I would say that just because you don't want the card right now doesn't mean you won't want it later.... playing styles change for various reasons.
Posted 7 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The cards you shuffle away reappear because the dealt cards are random. The cards that are dealt are drawn from a pool of possible cards that include the cards you shuffled back into the deck.

To those asking/talking about saving up, I don't think that's what Cassandria is talking about. She just wants more control over which cards show up when she *does* shuffle. (Please correct me if I'm wrong!)

  • I am not suggesting that everyone should have cards changed all the time.  Read what I have written.

I would like a system wherby cards we probably never ever want, are not constantly dealt out.  Some way of saying "thanks but not for now"  and not seeing that card for several days at least.

This would not inconvenience those in the situations above, but it would improve the experience enormously for some of us, who see only five or six different cards for days on end.  None of which we want!

  • It's a card game... almost literally. The random chance is part of the fun.

  • "If I didn't buy it that is because I didn't want it. "

I've had to pass on plenty of cards I'm interested in, but can't afford at all at this time. Just because I pass on them once, doesn't mean I never want to see them again. Also, once you blow through the bulk iMG you got from the changeover, the system makes much more sense. :)

  • since we are in beta, why cant we just choose what we upgrade? we all have (or had) a ton of imagination, why not let us use it as we see fit?

it could be another tab on the home page, quite easily accessed and used, a page with all the cards listed.

after we are out of beta then that tab can be removed, its not like we have new folks here starting at level 0 very often..

  • Let me explain more fully.
I have nothing to learn at the moment.  Therefore I do not want the "learning skill" cards.  I hope to need them in the future, but not now.

Every day I get at least one or two, sometimes three or four of these cards in a hand.  I don't want to use my imagination to buy them now.  In the future I might, so I would like the option to put them on "hold" for some time.

Instead, I get them, over and over again.  I don't see why I should spend my imagination on them and not have any left for the things I really want and need.

I want the mining cards,  I hate that it now takes me twice as long as it used to when mining.  I have never got one of the mining cards because I only seem to get the damn skills ones!

Of course it is random and eventually I expect I will get the cards I want, but how long will that be?  I have never been bored with Glitch in two years of playing but this system is rapidly doing that for me.

Surely some system with an element of choice is not beyond the abilities of the TS team?  AT present I feel so helpless when the same things come up time and time again.

  • What's the harm to be able to choose if you want them reshuffled?
Posted 7 months ago by AwesomeCardinal2000 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It probably isn't beyond their abilities, but I think it's more a matter of whether they think it would be good for the game/players/etc.

edit: AwesomeCardinal2000, I don't think we're talking about a choice of whether to shuffle or not.
Posted 7 months ago by Millie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Shepherdmoon - I HATE card games with a vengeance!!!  It is the element of chance and the lack of choice which I find so frustrating.
Posted 7 months ago by Cassandria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree about the reshuffle that we control it is better but I also agree that we should be able to quarantine some cards for say 3 shuffles at least.

I have gotten most of what I want but it seems like if I don't take something I don't want I can not get something I want to appear- like they are dependent on each other. I did not want the music metal card but I took it anyway because I thought it was preventing others from appearing. It didn't help. So, I guess I was wrong on that one.

But, that is just to say that the cards are not clear about if they are part of a series and you have to get them in order. Will I ever see Eggier Harvest? Or is it part of a series?

And if I skip "corn hoocher" will that affect something else coming up, or rather not coming up?

I too get tired of the same increase your energy quota cards reappearing each reshuffle, I guess now that I have gotten most of them there are few cards in the deck and most are the quota upgrade cards so I will be at it awhile trying to get that 5 x brain capacity card.

  • I have to agree with Cassandria- same thing happens to me .. (altho I am frustrated , not yet "angry" , ask me again in a few more days when I still dont have the cards I want -then maybe angry..)
As soon as i redeal at new day - then I frequently have the 2 of 3 of the same (or VERY similar) cards instantly re-dealt to me. I cant log in every RL day either (much less mutiple new game days in short order) .
AND i still dont like "blowing" img on cards I dont want. I ALREADY have to "blow" img on cards that i dont want in order to get to new ones that i hopefully do want.
and it bugs me - alot - to have to do that.
Because that means essentially I cant customize my Glitch as I choose , instead if I dont want to wait months- then I must take customizes ( ie upgrades) that i DONT want . SO ,I am customizing my glitch at RANDOM instead of to my choosing. I just dont like that.
I'd greatly prefer to have a discard pile - or something!_--- so that maybe I could , 1card per game day - could place one card in a discard pile - that means it wont get added back to my deck for at least 3 REAL life days - then it will get added back to the deck .. that would help matters.
Or some other mechanism to make things better would be okay too.

It could easily be applied to those over a certain level and removed when the game is out of beta again.

I do like Serenitycat's notion. Being able to keep a card that I am saving up for, in addition to also having a reshuffle would be dreamy.

  • I would not mind that, you can check a card or two to keep and then re-shuffle.  But since this is a beta, why not give us a little leeway and let us redo it maybe 2 or 3 times a day?  I am seeing only a few cards that I would spend iMG on now.

I also need to see a master list of cards so I can be sure im not wasting iMG getting something thats +2 when there is a +3,4,5 out there that will not add to the +2, but work in its place.

Just because this is a beta does not mean we have to be test subjects for everything, does it?

  • A discard pile would be useful, or perhaps a mechansim wherein I can dismiss a card for 7 days. (To a limit of 5 dismissed cards at one time.) At present, I have no need to learn extra skills (I'm satisfied with where I am) and increasing my brain capacity by 3 will not help me if I'm 40+ over the capacity. Therefore, I do not need skill-related or brain capacity cards. I also don't use machines, so I don't need peat related or machine related upgrades, and it would be a waste for me to spend imagination on them at the present time.

Game styles change and everyone knows that, so maybe I'll want those cards later. But I don't want them now, and I'm unlikely to want them for a very, very long time. Being able to dismiss them from more than just the current hand would be an asset.
Posted 7 months ago by Xiri Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Based on previous similar instances I would expect that TS would err on the side of making the game last longer over giving people the instant gratification they demand. You could pick all the cards you could possibly want within one week and then have nothing else to upgrade ever, or you could do it slowly as you wait for the cards you want to show up, and extend the process over a longer time period, thus also extending the lifetime of the game itself before you get bored of it and quit because there's nothing left to do.

Also, this system is designed with a new player in mind, as it should be, and we are in a special circumstance that won't exist for new players. There is no reason that TS should design a completely different system for this very temporary state we are in: that takes time away from what they should be doing: making the overall game better in every way for everyone.

  • What I would like is a second button on the back of the card.   Along with "get this upgrade" for the full price, I would like "defer this upgrade" or "move to the bottom of the deck" for, some small percentage of the full price.

  • You guys are lucky (if you consider ultimate super-card-holding progress to be lucky) that Tiny Speck didn't stick you with all those "useless" cards and instead let you choose which ones you wanted.  You are basically getting the cards that future players will be dying to see - the ones you'll never be able to afford until you've progressed in the game so far. With so few *actual* cards left to hoard, all you see is the bonus infinite ones. That means you win! You've practically *won* the game. You should rest and relax in the fact that you have so much iMG and so many skills and raises and all that, and pray that your mining card never appears, because then you'll be stuck facing Brain Capacity after Brain Capacity, and you'll have nothing to work towards.

tl;dr I don't understand your philosophy towards this game as a thing you play for fun

  • I don't like card games.
I hate that I have no control over which cards appear, I want to be able to choose upgrades as I need them, and when I need them. I hate having to choose between buying a card I really do not want 'right now' (in the hopes of maybe, possibly, having a card appear which I can use/afford), or not buying any.

Why can't we choose our up-grades the same way we choose which skills to learn next?

  • are people not seeing the free reshuffle card they get? Don't like your cards? Reshuffle them. Still don't like them? Buy a reshuffle card off auction. :)
Posted 7 months ago by Zubes Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's an issue with the conversion, an issue that only applies to those of us who've been playing so long and are suddenly switched over. Rather than buying upgrade cards along the way, having hundreds upon hundreds of opportunities to reshuffle over 7 months, we're trying to fit all that upgrading into NOW. And it doesn't work that way. You'll get what you want eventually. You won't get want you want now. I can sympathize with it being frustrating, but the system is not balanced to do what many want it to do.

ETA: Especially if you want to be picky, being picky means you have even less chances to find what you want. And if the ones you don't want apply to skills, unlearning those skills should remove the cards from your deck.
Posted 7 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Even if I were a new player, I would still want some form of dismissal. Not permanent, and limited, but something. I think that if we were to have these upgrades laid out for us like a skill tree, that would defeat the purpose of having them. I don't mind that they are random, and I don't mind that I don't want a lot of them. I quite like the manual reshuffle, now that I understand why it's there.

But I would quite like to have the ability to say, 'no, I don't want to see this one again for a few days.' Not for all the cards, just a few. Like I said, up to 5 at one time. I don't think that's a tall order, and I don't think it would affect the purpose of the random cards. More than anything else, it would also create the illusion of control a player could have over the cards they are dealt, and that's important too.
Posted 7 months ago by Xiri Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't know why I care about responding to anything, but "Even if I were a new player, I would still want some form of dismissal."

Um, no you wouldn't. You'd be in awe of all these new skills - MORE ENERGY? YES PLEASE. MORE MINING! COOL I CAN MINE NOW! WOWEE LOOK AT ALL THESE THINGS! EVERYTHING IS GREAT! SO MANY CHOICES.
It's not 'til you're old and jaded that cards become redundant and unwanted. And only temporarily - if you had infinite iMG, I'd assume you'd want them, yes? You just have a higher learning curve now that you've progressed further. It's part of the *built-in difficulty of the game mechanics* that makes the cards less frequent. Believe it or disbelieve it, it's intentional.
We are just too old collectively to understand the wonder of a new character's line of thought.

  • stoot: "You can get new cards every game day: that's what the shuffle is."

I would be very happy if this is what actually happened. I don't mind having to shuffle to get new cards. I don't even mind the card system. I kind of like the randomness. But, I do mind getting the same freakin card every single time! I have had the Rube...whatever (the one the doubles your chance of seeing the Rube for 5,000 i) in nearly every shuffle for days now. I also keep getting the one to assemble a machine in one swift move. I've offered suggestions on how this could be improved in another thread, so I won't repeat it here. But, I will say that the system is clearly broken. Some people seem to keep getting the re-shuffle card, based on the auctions; while I would mind that much less, the point is the same people should NOT keep getting the same cards repeatedly.

  • Er, with all due respect, I'm pretty sure I know how I'd respond as a new player. So I disagree that I would react in the way you suggest. Glitch is not the first game I've played, nor is it the first where I can choose to focus my skills and abilities in a particular path. When a game allows players to do that, there are always going to be things irrelevant to them. I don't see what's so terrible about being able to temporarily discard things that are irrelevant, and in a limited manner. I'd want it if I was a new player, and it's really not for you to tell me that I wouldn't.

(Having infinite imagination would redefine the circumstances. It is having limited imagination that presents this discussion point, so I'm going to skip over that hypothetical entirely.)

  • I am Jimothy, defender of the Deck.

Let's all hypothesize for two nano-moments here.  Let's say that the cards you all want come in the next hand.  Ignore for a moment the cards in the shuffle you "don't want" - let's say that you get the cards you want every time you reshuffle! Let's say there's 30 cards left you all need - and you only play once a day - you get them after ONE MONTH. In ONE MONTH, you will have EVERY CARD YOU WANTED if it came to that. Let's say you only play once a week - That's Seven Months from now.  Some suspicious part of me believes that if you really even care enough to require cards that fit your purpose, you're going to play at *least* once a week, if not every day for a few "in-game days" - but regardless:

How long do you want to play this game for?

If you want to just collect all the cards and then log out forever, you have no say in what kind of game this should be. Ostensibly, if you have been playing since Alpha like Cassandra, you'll wanna keep playing for years!  How are you going to justify your greed when you have no unique cards left to draw from when you want to continue playing? What part of this game ISN'T continuous exploring and taking things slow enough to appreciate the nuances and fun little gems? I know there was a lot of level-mashing to get to 60 before the switch, but *why* you human people? What part of Glitch means *complete everything immediately*?

I am clearly in no sane state of mind right now, as I have resorted to using asterisks to express points. But I defy you to ask yourself - what kind of game are you playing, and when has patience not been a part of it?

  • Hear hear, Audaria.

What would be the use of buying a "reshuffle" card when I just get the same five or six cards up again and still don't want them?

How does it help new players that I have lost my mining skill and cannot get an upgrade which I have already earned with days of learning in the past?

The system might work if one started from the beginning, but I have learned all the skills about four times now and the novelty has worn off.  I want to PLAY and I can't do that to the same level as I could last week.

I am not asking for a different system (though I am glad I am not new because I hate the randomness of it)  just some way in which I can quickly regain what has been removed from me.  I don't even mind paying for it with imagination, even though I have already paid in learning time.  I do mind very much that I have no ability to choose any more!
Posted 7 months ago by Cassandria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If stoot and all are worried about players loosing a card they want just because the game day ends, how about a mechanism where if one of the three might be valuable to a player, he or she gets to mark it to save it when the cards reshuffles. That might take care of every one's concerns.
Posted 7 months ago by Leelah Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That isn't what I'm asking for, though? I already said that I'm quite okay with the fact I don't want all of the ones given to me. I'm also not saying I want to dismiss *all* the cards I don't want. I have no problem with needing to reshuffle to see cards I want, or waiting for the right one. Like I said: not the first time I've played a game. It's also not the first time I've had to wait to get something. Instant gratification is not something I care for, nor is it what gaming is for.

I only want to be able to dismiss a small handful of the hundreds we're offered, for a limited time. That's it. Ain't no big thing.

  • Dear Jimothy Defender of the Deck.
I see you are relatively new here and don't have a subscription.  I have been playing for two years and still want to play.  There is nothing "ostensible" about that.

In the past we have been able to CHOOSE which skills to learn, in which order and how we would focus our abilities.  I have enjoyed that very much.

Now I have had those abilities taken away.  My mining skill learning time (weeks and weeks of it over the years) has been removed.  I now have no power to do anything about that unless the cards are presented to me.  It is no longer my choice, it is luck or something.   I do not like that, it is not the game I want to play.

I am happy to spend time learning something I want to learn, I am not happy that my abilities have been removed and replaced with a system which forces me to buy stuff I don't want instead of stuff I do want.  How is that interesting or fun?  Choice is fun, forced gameplay is not.

I have enless patience, as countless re-sets will testify to, but never before has progress been at the whim of some stupid system over which I have no control.  All I am asking is that some measure of control be returned to me so that I can enjoy the game again.  What I am asking for woudl not affect anyone who did not need to use it, so why is it such a contentious thing?

  • So far I've made choices... I've completely avoided certain upgrades altogether. And all too soon I'll get hands with three cards I don't want but then I go do something else Glitchy and wait on a new day.

I'm not saying a change would be bad... maybe it would be a really good idea. But instead of a constructive post in the ideas forum this was a frustrated and angry and negative post so it's harder for me personally to focus on constructive things that might be here.

  • Dear Cassandria, Subscriber of the Glitch,

I see you see I am new here. As this is practically my first day playing Glitch, forgive my ignorance with the notion of 'change' and 'choice.'  Instead, let me rely on another topic:

    Patience.

But before we get to that (see what I did there), I am sorry to inform you that you have (as far as I know) every single Mining speed card, as well as every type of Rock expert card.  You will never find the card you are looking for, because that card does not exist (yet).  Maybe your frustration stems from the fact that you actually are more powerful than you could possibly imagine, but not as powerful as you possibly used to be. I understand that feel, sis.

But let's say a new Mining Card appears. You will, through enough deck shuffles, have the chance to buy that card. That card will appear, in all its speed-inducing glory, and you will snatch it up faster than an anteater at a picnic. And you will be glad that you have it, and can return to your mining, no less slow than before.

But that might take a while. Patience doesn't mean hours - patience could be days. Weeks. It could be an actual while. But when you get the reward, it will feel that much more rewarding, because your dream will finally have come true.
