  • I un-blocked just about everyone on my list ~truth is, I don't remember who they are/were, let alone blocking them.
Thank you for adding this fab new opportunity!

  • Ok am I missing something, because..I have gone to my "friends" page...and I can't find any block or unblock feature..or button or what ever I'm supposed to be looking for.  :-/

Ok I got there through the change log link..but I still can't find it on my "friend" page, is it because I haven't blocked anyone?

  • Yes, Cryztal; it's because you haven't blocked anyone :)
    (I just tested it.)

  • For those of you that don't remember blocking some of the people...quite a few of them regularly change their names (hmmm, wonder why).  I have a number that were blocked under one name, but are now under a different name. I only know because before we got this feature I was bookmarking their profiles (which saved the bookmark under the name I blocked them with).  When I running through the list with an alt (as a pre-emptive block), I noticed a lot of them had changed their names.  It's nice in theory that many of you are 'unblocking' them, but I suspect that while their names have changed, for quite a few of them, their actions haven't.  But I wish you all well with it.

  • I think this is a great feature, and I appreciate being reminded about the (few) people I had blocked. A couple of names on the list surprised me and I was glad to unblock them.

  • Considering how cranky I am, I was surprised to find that I'd only blocked 45 people. Most of them I either can't remember why I blocked them or their accounts have been deleted. Whittled it down to 12 accounts. All of those I know precisely why I blocked them and they can stay that way.

  • "truth is, I don't remember who they are/were, let alone blocking them"

"A couple of names on the list surprised me"

I said it earlier but want to just mention it again- we only recently (a few months ago) added confirmations to the block button. It was too easy for a stray click to go unnoticed.

We also added the FAQ for how to find the players you blocked; if you ever forget, just search for it in the help section. :)

  • My block list is empty.  I do hang out in global, and no one has annoyed me so bad that I felt they needed blocking.  Most I will just call out, and they'll apologize and hopefully stop doing whatever it is they're doing.  Or I stop reading for a bit.

  • I have a question just running through my block list and some accounts are deleted (YAY!) so what I'm wondering is if I unblock a player that says their account has been deleted, can that player reactivate their account and so once again have access to communications with me?

Edit: to say...I want to look at my unblock list and not have 30 on there...it will drop a lot if I can clear off those who have deleted their accounts :)

  • I want to block the Rube--or maybe set him on fire.

  • The comments about seeing if/who actually blocked you does seem a bit invasive and does look like it would cause griefing or other problems but we do see who is friends with who and get updates on who people friend. Maybe there could be a feature on how many have blocked us. That could be interesting...Btw, I've blocked no one yet. Someone said earlier and i agree, it might be more effort to block someone then to just let them be. Often, in global, people do get called out of they are being silly billy glitches. So, there you go. We will be nothing-ing you too, Watch out!

  • I've never blocked anyone. If the chat on Global gets annoying I shut it and go back later.
No-one in Ur has ever really bothered me.

  • Apparently, I am one of the people @ blocked.
Edit: by me, to avoid forum drama
This is what I find intriguing about players who block people. As far as I know I have had no interaction with this player at all, this is the first time I've even noticed their name on the forums and definitely never interacted in game but apparently something I did this player deemed offensive and blocked me.

Why are some people so trigger happy with the block? Especially in a game that is pretty tame and hard to actually "harm" anyone.

  • @Papa, we're not supposed to name players in that way.  I found out the other day.  I've always been a person to call out and discuss a problem in real life so I can understand why people instinctively go to mentioning a name but in and on internet forums it's a nono and really quite irritating that we can't do so.

I know I've been blocked by a couple of peeps on the forums too (because quite frankly there are so many dominant personalities on here it's inevitable that someone or two is going to hack you off everytime they speak/type but only realised I'd been blocked when I'd gone on one of my street roams and then you'll know you're blocked if you can't access their home street ;) If and when that happens I will generally block in return.  It's a bit tit for tat I know but I'm not quite sure if someone blocks you and you don't them whether or not they can still access your home street? So I will block in that case as I'm not prepared to share my resources with someone who has not enabled me to use theirs. So many questions actually I would love answers to about blocking (or rather the lack of effect blocking really has).

I actually instigated a block on myself the other day.  I got an IM from someone asking how I got onto her home street when we weren't friended so I explained that I was just following signposts.  Then before you know it I get a rather lovely message left with my butlers accusing me of stealing from 'her' and her friends (I'm half tempted to think it was actually one player with several alts..but that's another story).  I should have just ignored her but just replied that I replant what I harvest and reminded her that feeders and collectors are locked and to go ahead and block as I wouldn't be offended.  So of course she did which allowed me to block in return along with 'a lot of her friends' well those on her signpost who I amazingly was able to steal from!! It's funny as I didn't have any house keys for them??? I wonder what I stole exactly???

I think her exact word were..'if you're seen again, there will be a problem'...ooohhhhhh did I feel threatened lmao!! Anyone who knows me and wants to know who that was give me an IM and I'll gladly share : )

  • @Arabesque, I was not meaning to call them out, just citing an example. Just wanted to further the discussion but to avoid forum drama I have edited it out.

It just goes to show everyone has their own style of game play. I'm new to the MMO style of game play and extend the same benefit of the doubt to all players as I would in real life. If someone says or does something I don't like I'm more likely to just avoid the player. Blocking is reserved for more serious offenses; harassment, overt racism or homophobia, etc... which I have never encountered in Glitch.

My experiences with Glitch so far is that it seems to attract more intelligent people who are open and willing to discuss things in a rational way.

  • Never blocked anyone, never saw a need to. I've reported a few people in the past for racist and misogynistic remarks but the offenders seem to fade away and find a new venue to entertain themselves.

Spammers and beggars are ubiquitous, can't play anywhere without running into them. Most are harmless. Link them to the faqs and wiki, show them how to use the forum search, make a new friend. If they respond negatively and display an unteachable spirit then wash your hands of them.

If it's on my home street, it's there to be shared. If you've stumbled upon my place by following signposts consider yourself welcome. You can't steal something that is meant to be given away, que no?

The last time I was in Global was probably a year ago. I realized that I'm somewhat of a misfit in that I neither aspire to work as a fluffer in the porn industry nor care to discuss whether working gay or straight would be the more fulfilling career choice. That said, no one was blocked, I'm not offended, but honestly this sort of discussion doesn't line up with what I find interesting  so I choose not to participate. I have the option to stay away from anything that might take away from my enjoyment here, why not utilize that feature instead of complaining. Having the chat window closed doesn't impact my happy Glitching.

If you've blocked me in the past you probably had good reason and made the right choice. Stick to your guns. Apologies all around for whatever transpired but since I'm still the same old me you should probably leave me ticked.

eta: I'm just speaking from my own perspective as there is a need for this feature (blocking ). I have witnessed some abusive behaviour firsthand and feel no one has to put up with being harassed. Thank you TS for allowing us to regulate on our end.

  • I understand Papa honestly I do : )  Amazingly I'm actually a human being who prefers her own company.  I've always preferred games where I just work at my own pace and speed and to my own personal set goals and achievements.  When I saw my friend count and then my blocked list number (30) I was kind of taken aback.  I quite often shy away from interaction in game as I am a kind of Lone Ranger....the only reason I came into glitch was through an invite from my sister who thought it would help to fill my days while I'm waiting to get my back sorted.  Hopefully at last...in approximately 2-3 months (loathes the NHS waiting times) I should be back and fighting fit and out making real currants *coughs* cash :O)

  • Thanks for all the feedback, Glitchen!

To confirm what others have inferred, you will only see the link to the list of players you've blocked if you have, in fact, blocked one or more players!  This link appears at the bottom of http://www.glitch.com/profiles/me/friends/ or can be reached directly at http://www.glitch.com/friends/blocked/.

Also, deleted players are no longer shown in your Blocked Players list.

We have no plans to show who blocked you.
