Storage display boxes: a change for the better

You know how it used to be that when you had stuff in a storage display box (sdb), and then it got emptied, you could never tell what it used to have in it? Well now we show a ghosted display of the item it used to hold*! You can still add any item to it after it has been emptied, but this should help you keep things organized.

Also, when you collect currants from an sdb, the message in chat that tells you how much you collected now also tells you what item the sdb was selling.

* This only works for sdbs that are emptied from here forward, not any currently empty sdbs you might have in your house.

  • I'd rather go through the price setting again, because it'd be good to confirm and not have the chance of accidently, if you're going quickly, having that set as a price when you were going to change it.  The "we remember the default price" thing has always been enough for me, but then I'm not selling a ton of different items with stock rotating on a regular basis, so there's that.

  • Could putting the emptied SDB in our inventory please make the ghost image go away? In case people'd ever like to use an SDB as its own type of wall decoration.  (And I assume once you put it in your inventory you're not as concerned about having the same item be for sale in the same location.)

  • I very, very much like this!  However, I have to echo diaveborn's request.

Would it be possible to put a verb in for the SDB to have it "forget" (or something" whatever was most recently in it?  Or to turn off the ghosting by putting it in your inventory??

I'd like to be able to re-use them through out, and having them be empty sometimes as part of a decorative scheme is really important to some of us. :)

  • Adding the item to the chat message is good. (There are a couple of other things that would be useful to echo in chat but that's a good one. If you blink, sometimes you miss something on the main screen.) The ghost image of the item is great. W00t!

  • EDIT: As another poster has pointed out below, there's no need to erase a ghost image before putting new items into SDBs. So ignore the rest of this post.

As a way to erase the ghost image, I'd prefer a verb like "forget" over putting the SDB back into inventory.  If I have a wall full of carefully placed SDBs and decide to change what's in them (e.g. reorganizing so that items are arranged by price rather than alphabetical, making a new menu in a restaurant, putting new items in a store), I'd rather not have to pick them all up and then place them again.

  • I bet salt or camphor would make for fairly innocuous ghost images...

  • Splendora - wouldn't the solution there be to just fill up the ones with what you want in them?

(not saying forget wouldn't be an option, but do you need to forget anything to do what you want?)

  • shhexy corin - Yes, you are right. My only excuse is that I'm trying to go off caffeine.

  • Yeah, a forget verb would be so much better than having to put it back into inventory, heh.  Thanks Grem Sketch ;D

  • Did something change with this? I just went and took something out of an SDB and the shadow is gone...

And then when I collected currants from an SDB, the shadow that was there for awhile disappeared. How sad...this was  a really cool update and a great way for me to keep what I sell organized (eg. music blocks...that way I never had to remember what to price them, I just refilled the same box when I collected more and went on my merry way)

  • Yes, Like Mogen said, its gone :( I can't have an organized tower anymore!!!! *sigh*

  • Also - anything that switches from one item to another retains the OLD ghost item.  Pulled out some urth blocks and was treated to a ghost of pig baits. :\

  • They've changed it so that it only applies to SDB's you've sold from

And there's a bug where they haven't exorcised the old ghosts from non-selling SDBs... at least,  I've reported that and they're going to look into it tomorrow

  • I was told it now works as follows for SDBs you sell from:  the ghost remains until you remove the currants
Posted 88 days ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Removing the ghost when you collect the currants totally defeats the purpose of having the ghost image in the first place.

Please chime in at this thread to have the ghost image STAY so we can remember what we need to restock: Keep SDB Ghost Item Image after collecting currants

It might be useful to have a "remove image' menu option, but having it erased automatically really makes the usefulness of it close to nil.

  • There are various situations in which a player may wish or need to collect the currants before refilling, so this does not seem like a good way to clear a ghost image.

  • I agree, removing the ghost image after collecting currants totally defeats the purpose, that's the entire reason it was such an awesome fix! Pls bring it back
