Houses belonging to abandoned glitch accounts

Does anyone know what happens to the houses belonging to players that have abandoned their glitch account? Once their account goes dormant, does the house go back into the general pool? If not, will we ever be getting more houses with larger herb gardens? With tinctures and potions requiring large numbers of herbs to make, the small houses with 6-plot herb gardens just don't seem to meet the needs of many glitchens that dabble in herbalism.

If anyone knows where I might find the info, it would be much appreciated.

  • There will be a new housing system coming soon, so at the moment it's just waiting for the new housing. More info  http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/15303/page6/#reply-158467

  • It's probably part of the reason for them to go to this new housing system (other than we really really really need actual creative outlets in this game).  You don't have to worry about 'dormant' accounts 'taking up valuable housing'...since each account has it's own house...no one will 'miss out' on aspects of the game play under the new system, except if you choose not to build it into your own house...

  • What we will miss out on is when people 'close their account' and their house full of goodies goes on the real estate market.  I've purchased several houses like that.  They are fun.

  • I had this same question, but with their accounts as a whole. I wanted to change my name to something more readable/sensible, but the name was taken by NOT ONE, but TWO long abandoned accounts. Staff said that the ToS doesn't say you will use your name though, so they didn't do anything about it :'(
Makes sense though, so...yeah. Sort of.

  • I would be upset if Glitch repossessed my account simply because I'd been away for a long period.  If I left for a year, I'd still like to be able to access my account when I came back!

  • hope they start tracking how often someone's on to determine if houses are actually being used...
even if someone is on infrequently, they shouldn't take away their property in case they come on again. They should just build more

  • This topic started off a firestorm several months ago especially with all those threads being posted in the Ideas Forum about taxation, eviction, etc.

Thankfully the new housing should be here soon and all that would be rendered moot.

  • Agree Genkicoll...I suspect that even with the newest proposed 'big updates' they will only keep my interest for a month or so without the addition of lots of other content (which I suspect may be a bit longer in coming)...so if I want to 'take a break' for a while...say 6 months, and engage later to be hopefully more interested/entertained...I'd hope my subscription account would still be here...especially since I paid for it...and frankly, I'd hope that any free account would still be here...because you never know when a free account might become a subscriber...

  • Thanks for all the info and insights. I'm even more eager now for the new housing system to start up.

  • The devs plan for housing includes dealing with idle property. Since housing will not have permanent links, idle units will simply drift away. I cannot imagine [sic] the data to store a n idle house would exceed a few KB of data, so easy enough to just migrate such data to low cost / high capacity disks. One set of 3 2TB disks could likely store at least 1 million houses [using RAID 5]
