Soy (or making sure vegetarians have options)

To totally counter my idea of Meat Bricks (which I still want) and in regards to stoot's mention of the concept of needing to vary one's diet...

Beans made into tofu which would be used in assorted "meatless and dairyless" meals. Personally, I am not a carnivore, but I imagine some players would like to play to there own tastes. I would hate to see them forced to eat virtual meats just to get virtual protein.

  • I think I requested something similar under 'what to do with the extra beans'... also - protein shakes.

  • I agree!  More variety in the food for those who don't eat meat wouldn't be a bad thing.

Does anyone else find this topic ironic coming from a guy with the word 'bacon' in his name?  Just sayin'  ;)

  • Bah Bacon-o rocks.... and if you've ever had Bacon-o's they're nothing like bacon.

  • Now I have to find out what a Bacon-o is. And yes, as a vegetarian, I'd love to have more vegetarian options to more closely resemble my "real life."

  • i love that i'm eating meat all the time in this game- goes right along with the fact that i'm cooking all the time. neither happens at all in real life.

plus, butterfly milk? really? that's about as fake and wonderful as it gets. and pig meat that sure looks like steak (well, i haven't eaten pork or beef in almost 2 decades, so i could be wrong)- i don't know, this vegetarian isn't too offended- i like the meat substitutes glitch provides :)

squishing something into tofu would be fun. but almost too real!!

  • i for one thought of this when i first started playing glitch. I would welcome vegetarian options...

  • I think this is a fun idea. Can we eat the things we grow in gardens instead of the piggys?

  • Oh, certainly, nayme - and they can also be used for recipes. Pretty much any food item - and that includes planks, bubbles, gas, etc. - can be eaten, it's just that some of them have multiple uses :)

  • maybe another animal we could raise would be tofurkeys? :)
Posted 19 months ago by greenkozi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't know greenkozi, if a tofurkey is an animal then we'd be eating an animal? I think there are enough vegetarian vegetarian meals as it is, I mean there could always be more but it's not like we veggies are starving, but the problem is that to level up cooking and do the cooking quests you have to cook meat, I'd like to be able to avoid that. Perhaps for the cooking quests you could choose which meals to cook from veggie and non-veggie options.

  • I think this would be really fun! Food right now is a little bit meat concentrated, and I would really like to see tofu ^ ^ Really like this idea!

  • But... but in this game, the animals want to be eaten...

  • Even if you're not vegetarian in real life, it might be an interesting twist to play a character that is, that refuses to nibble pigs or make meat-related dishes :P

  • That could be interesting Milx. Goals would have to be adjusted though, as some require certain meals to be cooked and those meals require meat. So alternate meals should be available for those goals, or if you're vegetarian, then vegetarian-centric goals should appear instead.

  • my computer wasn't working when i typed my response (yesterday? two days ago?), but i said something to the effect of i had this image of a tofurkey being a non-animal animal. sort of like the fedex frog...

  • I worked at a food co-op for a very loooooong time. For a while we sold tofu turkey bacon. I thought selling fake fake bacon was maybe taking it a step too far!
Do you know that the 'industry' calls those tofu meats analogs?

Thus, for me anyway, it's not such a giant step to imagine that the 'meat' in game is not meat meat, and the piggies (and the butterflies and yes, even the chickens) love to give it to us, and it doesn't harm them in any way.

  • Vegetarian-ism comes many stripes. It is not just based on "morality" issue so whether or not animals like it isn't always the issue. (Note: I am a hardcore carnivore in the real world but I have a lot of vegetarian/vegan friends and they can be a sensitive lot.)

For me it is just about giving options. And right now it is not really an issue. I believe the two highest energy items are Awesome Stew (200 w meat) and Fortifying Gruel (191 w/o meat). Those are pretty close so options are there. Depends HOW and IF a "you must eat different foods or you get a diminishing return" gets implemented that it would be an issue and something fun could be had with. I would just hate to see someone who has made the choice to not eat meat in  the real world be forced to eat meat in the game world, as silly as that sounds.

  • ha- LbO, this was also in my original but lost reply.  this could turn into a fundamental "what kind of vegetarian/vegan are you" debate, which may or not be the kind of thing the devs want. (weren't we talking about religions after the last test?)

i'm the kind of vegetarian that thinks a cartoon game eating steak from a pig and seeds from their poop and drinking butterfly milk is hilarious, but i respect that this may not be fun for other vegetarians.  i'm not going to go biting pigs (or eating their non-steak-flesh) in my day to day life.  i distinctly remember sometime during the last test feeling quite panicked during a project when i was Out Of Meat!!

i think vegetarian options are awesome. squeezing up some tofu would be great.  the more choices the better.  (i will continue to amuse myself with the idea of raising tofurkeys.)

  • Well, I'm Jewish, and I don't eat pork.. but I still let my character eat pork...! I think as is, there's lots of veg options in game already... I'm lactose intolerant, maybe I should ask for less cheese based items...?

I think it should be more of a "give more use to beans" (maybe I'm just too low level and haven't found a good use for them yet...) rather than catering to vegetarians... I would never inflict my eating rules on ANYONE! Not even my Glitch :P

I think introducing things like this would be difficult for the devs to keep up with-- it's like me requesting a mezuzah for my house... It'll just get way too weird, complex, and annoying if we request things to be like what we do IRL... Just remember... it's a GAME!
