Relocating

Hi All,

So I have scrounged up funds to relocate to one of the more posh homes in Salatu. But I have a few doubts:

What happens to my stuff and animals in the existing house?
What precautions/points should I take care of?
How is Salatu as a neighbourhood?
Any advantages that the region holds?
Are there any houses in Salatu with both herb gardens and crop plots?

Thanks in advance for helping me understand how relocation works :)

  • Anything in the cabinet/closet or sitting around on the ground will need to be carried by you (or a friend helping you move!). The only animal you can take with you are the piggies by hog-tying them - the others you can leave or release into the wild, I think. Trees will also have to be left behind.

Make sure you have everything you want to take with you before you sell the house!

Can't say much about Salatu as a neighbourhood but there are currently no houses in all of Ur that have both herb and crop plots. It's one or the other, unfortunately.

    Good luck moving! :)

  • You must move all the stuff you want to keep- if you leave it there, it will be there for the next person. Many people leave behind the pigs, or a few of them. Chickens, butterflies and trees can't be taken with you at all.

So just pack up what you want to take with you into bags and get a friend to help you move or store your stuff for you during the transaction. This includes all ground items, herdkeeping items (feeder/collectors), cabinet items... Trophies will automatically be moved from one house to another so you don't have to worry about them.

Salatu is a lovely area. I don't know what the current neighborhood vibe is though, as I lived there in beta, nor can I vouch much for the current state of the regional advantages.

The only houses with herb gardens are the ones in the bogs. There is no dual herb/crop housing available anywhere.

  • Moving presents one of the more interesting challenges in the game.  I have moved now more times than I can count and have a lot of experience with it.

You can only take along as much as you can carry.  Anything left in your house will belong to the house's next buyer as you will be unable to enter it again once you've sold it.  And you can't buy another house until you have sold your present house.

You can work around this by placing the extra things that are more than you can carry at a friend's house during the move, then transferring it all to your new place after the purchase.  Or carefully conceal your extra bags somewhere out in the world and hope nobody else grabs what you've left out.  There are little concealed areas on many residential streets, often at the edge, that will serve for this.  I have had a lot of good luck doing this and not lost anything yet on countless moves.  Or enlist a friend or two to carry the extra.  They can leave all their 'stuff' at their house and come to help you with empty hands to carry part of your stuff.

Salatu is a good area, it's fairly well connected and has it's own subway station.  There are dirt piles to dig, rocks to mine, and it's fairly well populated with 'street animals' to harvest resources from.  It's been a rapidly expanding region, with lots of new housing blocks having been opened up in the past several weeks, so many people are new there and I am not sure how well 'neighborhoods' have formed yet.  Also, it's what I would call one of the 'suburban McMansion' areas with big houses and only a few per block.  A lot of the people living there commute directly to other areas via teleporting, at least that's the impression I have gotten, as I am one of the people who wanders around a lot and there isn't that much 'local traffic' on the streets.

  • I just moved to Salatu and I like it so far. Nice scenery - hazier than Groddle, but nice views. I think I've enjoyed living in lots of different homes in different areas. No law says any move has to be the ultimate one - this game is changing every day, and housing and furnishings options seem exceedingly likely to change with time.
