Ack! I was double-charged for the same SDB style...

I wanted to buy the new ice cube SDB style. I changed it with much joy, and since I thought I owned the style, I changed another of my SDBs to that ice cube. And to my dismay, I was charged another 12 credits for that...

When I click on the already changed SDB and open the style selections, the ice cube (at least that's what I call that) style is at the top and it says "you own this", rightfully.

However, if I click on an old unchanged SDB and try to change its style, the new design is back at the bottom with the 12 credits sign...

It was my stupidity to double buy it, but this is a bug I guess.

Would there be a way for me to get back my credit? I'm being very picky about spending them so giving 24 for a 12 credit item kind of bothers me...

Anyone else experience this?

  • Hi, Berke :)
I hope I understand your post.

    Every SDB upgrade costs.
If you buy an upgrade for one, you only own it for that SDB.
Every other SDB needs to have the upgrade paid for independently.

  • Just to reinforce what xombiekitty said, the cost is to change the appearance of a single item, not to buy that style in perpetuity.

However, I do think it's confusing that sometimes you buy the item outright (wall patterns) and sometimes you don't (furniture styles). I think it should be made consistent to avoid confusing players.

If it can't be made consistent, I think the terminology should be changed to make the distinction clearer. For example, maybe you "refinish" an item instead of the generic "upgrade".

  • Oh are you serious?

I thought of that possibility too, but it is just so ridiculous in my opinion. I have more than twenty SDBs and if I want to make them all the same style I will have to pay for the same style 20+ times over??? And I don't have to do that for wall patterns???

This totally nullifies my enthusiasm about becoming a subscriber!

Please Glitch team, hear me out, Am I the only one not happy about this situation?

Now my hype on decorating my house has diminished!

I've been a subscriber for about a month, and with this issue, What a tiny puff of a bang for my buck. In this case, the credits that I get each month can easily be spent on just a couple of SDBs upgrades.

Wouldn't you want to make all your SDBs look the same, and for the sake of loving Giants:

Has anybody really spent hundreds and hundreds of credits just to buy the same style over and over again??

  • It's done this way so you can sell or buy an item with the upgrade included. The upgrade only applies to that one item, otherwise one person could buy the upgrade, sell that furniture, and the buyer could then upgrade all their furniture to that same thing, then sell it all.. theoretically, one person buying could allow everyone in the game to have that upgrade. (yeah, it probably wouldn't happen like that, but ... it could)

  • Like Zany said, since you can sell furniture it only allows the style to be bought per item.

As for wall, ceiling, and floor swatches, since you can't sell those the style purchased is available for the whole house, not just one section.

Oh, and yes, I do know  a lot of people that are slowly buying the SDB upgrades as they get the credits (or currants, for those buying in trade).
Posted 5 months ago by xombiekitty Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not sure I agree with that analysis Zany and xombie. The ability to upgrade furniture need not be tied to having a piece with that style in your inventory. (In the same way that you can have a crafted item in your pack without being able to make it yourself.)

  • Janitich, I'm just going off what stoot has said previously.

    *****

Personally, I think paying per item is fine.
TS need to make money some how.

    Glitch the game is free.
Even some cosmetic options are available for free.
Credits are not needed to play.
Upgraded pieces are not needed to play.

If you do want credit upgraded items you can purchase them with in-game currants from other players.

If you do purchase credits during beta, solo or as part of a subscription, you will get 100% of the credits back again at launch.

So, I think the cost of upgrades and the one purchase per item method is fine, and I think currently it is even better because of the deal TS has offered to beta participants.
    I don't understand the issue.

  • Well, on TS's part, what a clever way to trickle real money into the virtual marketplace in Glitch...

I think I am paying enough money to TS to play the game, even though I know I don't have to in order to play, but I want to show my support. However as a subscriber, I believe my individual contributions will sum up to a much greater amount over the time to those $60 games that you pay once and be done with it...

On top of that, the ratio of one's ability to buy things in the credit system I believe is a little slim, especially now the styles cannot be used in other items. I am still disheartened to try and change the whole style of my house, which I would think to do every month or so. But now I discovered this, it is impossible to change the look of your house unless you spend a little fortune "with real $".

But there is no problem with changing clothes and outfit with one's Glitch. Those cost credits too!

I know you say it makes sense because the upgrades are embedded into the items in the auctions, but to my eyes, this is anything but a gear in a new moneysucking mechanism that transforms real money to currants.

I would much rather see the revenue mechanism resemble the game's happy atmosphere and deviate a little away from this (for the lack of a better word), capitalism.

People don't really need to sell and buy the style in auctions imho, let them buy the style and change their house as they please, please.

  • You can buy upgraded items in the Auction House to change your style if you so choose. Many people use their credits to upgrade items and sell them so, subscription or not, those items are available to anyone who wants to use Currants to buy them.

As a subscriber, you get a reduced rate on credits compared to non-subscribers. The higher your subscription setting the better the deal you receive. And, given that any credit purchases (including those gained with subscriptions) will be matched upon live release, it's an incredibly good deal for those who choose to subscribe.

Of course, if you want to play the game for free you can - there are options available to freely upgrade most items (without even having to use the Auction House). The choices aren't as broad, but you can make quite a nice house for no cost at all if you want to.

Also, complaining about how the company makes money and asking them to make less money, shortly after they have reduced the expense for items (like SDB's), seems like a poor strategy for getting what you want.

  • Thanks for your message foolbunny,

Well I hadn't realized they reduced the credit prices for the upgrades. But I guess their reduction in a way fortifies my statement above. I believe people just don't purchase styles as much as TS would like them to.

I know for myself that I won't even attempt to change every items style and buy individual styles... Discount works and I thank TS for doing that, but with the few dozen SDBs, it's still not worth it.

On top of that, you don't find many SDBs that have the non-free styles on sale. Unless the auction house sparks up with many auction items with all kinds of styles, I don't think this system will work for me.

I appreciate everybody's comment here, but this is just how I feel personally, especially after presuming the styles were a one-time purchase.

  • The reduction of SDB costs came about because people alerted TS to how much the cost added up based on the numbers of SDBs they had. TS hadn't realised that so many people would have such a large number of SDBs so they said they would consider lowering the costs (again, this is from forum posts). I think it was very nice of them to consider it and then do that.

As for you stating that people are not buying a lot of upgrades and that's why TS lowered the cost, all of the lovely snaps of homes would suggest otherwise. I also know that credit upgraded SDBs do end up on auction as I have someone that buys upgrades from me specifically to sell at auction.

Beyond the auction system is all the people offering to upgrade to your choice of upgrade for a trade in currants. You don't have to wait until the design you're after hits the market as you can get it whenever you want directly from anyone advertising in the Marketplace forum.

Since you have a sub, you could very easily keep your credits (edited to fix error) to spend on clothes and house swatches, while spending currants on getting the upgrades you'd like as you want them :)

BTW, since this isn't a bug, perhaps altering the heading to say (not a bug) or something would be helpful to staff and players using this area. Maybe start a discussion in a different forum more appropriate.

    Well said, xombiekitty! :D

Check the marketplace out. There are people who sell made-to-order credit upgraded furniture (including upgraded SDBs) for currants.

  • More than twenty? Aww...

Haha, just you wait how many you will end up with.

[I'm at 144 now, counting upward, and there are people with way more.]

I do understand why they made the updates count like this, but of course it's a pity that you spent credits you didn't want to spend. Perhaps the furniture upgrade interfaces might be a bit clearer on what happens.

  • What are you guy's thoughts on being able to split up an sdb's upgrades to be applied to more than one sdb?

    To Clarify:

So, I was given an SDB with 4 upgrades, which was very kind of the person to do, and wasn't sure if they had paid 4 different times until now. Should I be able to take the 3 upgrades that are hidden and be able to put them on 3 other (upgraded or not) SDB's? The (only) risk being that I would be able to sell the other three SDB's on auction.
Posted 5 months ago by Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I get what you're saying but it's a pretty convoluted (did I spell that right??) thing to do.  I think perhaps folks upgrade the same sdb without thinking sometimes and really it's just the luck of the draw if you buy one at auction for a good price.  Most times a player will know and charge more for it but generally I'd pass it by as I'd only be using 1 upgrade at a time.

Basically Rook, I'm saying no lol
Posted 5 months ago by ~Arabesque~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I've suggested it before, but I'll say it again...What I think would be great would be if, in addition to the present credit cost to upgrade a single piece of furniture, there would be, at a higher price, a "license" to upgrade as many of that piece of furniture to that style as you wanted, but all furniture upgraded under that license would be soul bound. (Like the furniture that comes free with your house - you can't sell it or give it away.) So you could choose to pay-per-piece and be free to sell the furniture or choose to buy a license to upgrade multiple pieces, but only for your own house.
Posted 5 months ago by Hawkwell Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, I agree with Hawkwell, something like a "Decorator's license" for that type of upgrade would be good. Maybe you could just buy them for certain types of items like SDB's, because I feel like there are other things where that mechanic would be unnecessary, and I still want TS to make lots of money!
Posted 5 months ago by Grupletruge Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I just wanted to also show my support for Hawkwell's idea!  I would honestly buy many more SDB upgrades if such a feature was in place.

  • Plus a glichillion to hawkwells idea! I would love to own more sdb's and be able to decorate my home better with more- but the credit cost is too much, even as a subscriber, -so a license would rock! Maybe a license could work with those permits and BA skills we never use!
Posted 5 months ago by serenitycat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You can always ask people to buy those upgrades for you, and you give them currants for it.
That way you don't spend real money on it :)

    Anyway:

Berke wroteI think I am paying enough money to TS to play the game, even though I know I don't have to in order to play, but I want to show my support. However as a subscriber, I believe my individual contributions will sum up to a much greater amount over the time to those $60 games that you pay once and be done with it...

Those games you talk about are not MMO's... although there are some like Guild Wars, what is just a one-time-payment and you can play for the rest of your life without paying a single coin...but there is an option to buy some fun stuff with real money, like cosmetic feature or fireworks, or things like that.

Online games are, like any other game, to make money, so in this case TS's "money making" plan is having to pay individually for SDB's.

I personally like it. why? because I've seen many other games similar like Glitch (in the social/chat/MMO/RPG genre... Glitch still is a one-of-a-kind :D) and their way is to force people to pay.

    Two examples:

1- Tell people you can play the game for free, but when they start playing the game, and want to buy new gear or item, they can only buy it with a lot of virtual money (and as a beginner, that's almost impossible, unless you got some inside friends) or by buying some "<name of the game> cash points" with real money.

2-  Tell people you can play the game for free, but when they start playing the game, and want to buy new gear or item, they can lend it (for 1, 3, 7 or 14 days) by paying with virtual money (or permanent, but that will cost you a lot of virtual money), or they can buy it with real money, what's always permanent and less time consuming.

In both of these "money making" plans... they force you to pay real money, or play for many hours a day to get the same thing.

    Hope I made a point here :)

  • I also love the idea of a "license" for an individual upgrade that would allow one to upgrade multiples of that item at either a flat rate or a reduced rate. I would happily spend more on a multiple use upgrade.
