Icons on the street. Question.

What are the advantages & disadvantages of placing your (the homeowner) icons on the street? What is the etiquette for visitors?

  • Well, the disadvantage might be that people could leech services from them, but not tithe, so you wouldn't be able to use them yourself without tithing. On the other hand, if people are nice and tithe, you might be able to use them while tithing less.

If they are in your street, everyone harvesting there might get blessings, which would make both yourself and your visitors happy.

Personally, when I'm in someone else's street, I only use an icon if I really need it - and if it then says that it needs a tithe, I always tithe.

  • Agree with Not a Princess - I've used them for energy then tithe when it needs it.  And the random blessings are very nice :)  I have 2 out on my street so visitors can get energy, but I have to tithe them more often than the ones in my house.

  • I made a second set of icons specifically for my street. That way I can have *my* icons inside that don't need extra tithing from street use.  The icons outside are for visitors only and I don't touch em.

The advantage of having them outside, aside from being a nice Glitch, is that you *do* get bonus IMG when people use the icons.  And, if you don't use the outside icons yourself, I don't see a downside. :)

  • Thanks for all your comments. I agree with Not a Princess, as well. I think I'll put a coulple out.
I don't know if I have the patience to start collecting enough emblems for a second set. Good for you, Soupie!

  • I have a set of icons on my street for a couple reasons:

    - I receive iMG when my visitors use them.
    - They're convenient to have on hand for my visitors who are running low on energy and aren't carrying food (I myself am notorious for this).

Of course, I appreciate them being tithed when needed (not so much for me, but for the next person) but I don't expect it. I placed the icons on my street accepting they can be reflected, revered, etc. by anyone who comes by and that I will be responsible for their upkeep.

Fun fact: I placed them out there a week ago, have had a couple dozen visitors since then, and haven't had to tithe them yet.
