glitch should make a security feature to make sure our accounts are more safe and secure

  • interesting LAbS - do you have reason to believe that your account has been compromised or is this a simple assumption that TS do not already have security features in place?

  • as a back up thing so just in case
Posted 87 days ago by ShawnLabs Subscriber! | Permalink
  • What kind of security feature?
Posted 87 days ago by Not a Princess Subscriber! | Permalink
  • like kind of thing cuz like the game is geting more people
Posted 87 days ago by ShawnLabs Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I still don't understand what "security feature" you mean. Those words can encompass a vast number of options, from having people enter captchas to ensure they aren't bots to requiring them to personally register somewhere with a valid photo ID and a certificate of good conduct in triplicate.

  • something to keep your glitch account safe so nobody tries to hack it
Posted 87 days ago by ShawnLabs Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But what? I'm pretty sure they must already have some security features, or else we would be hearing about people's accounts being hacked all the time, so what exactly should they add? And do you have any information that would suggest account hacking has become a problem recently?
Posted 87 days ago by Not a Princess Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Aside from just wanting to cause grief, there's no reason for glitch accounts to be hacked. They're not valuable or worth anything; the sandbox nature of the game is such that you can gain anything that another account already has. The exception is perhaps the very rare collectibles, but even then the community is full of people who would work very hard to either replace what was stolen or track it down.

Besides which, the easiest way to avoid getting hacked is to have a proper password and not tell anyone what it is, nor leave yourself logged in when accessing Glitch in a public place. It's super simple stuff.

  • LAbS, are you a Republican, by any chance? Have there actually been hacking issues, or are you just thinking that there might be, some day, maybe?
Posted 87 days ago by Dys Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's all just pixels, I may have paid to use those pixels but I doubt anything in glitch is worth even a single penny* anywhere else, what at all would be worth hacking?
Plus when asking a question like this people will ask what you mean. Try and make a reasoned explanation of what you mean, or we are likely to consider you're trying to troll.
Is it game access and bot playing you're worried about? Real money transactions? Loss of you currants in game?
Ps, any payments made to glitch are secure transactions outside of the game.

  • Please don't bring politics into this >.>

Yeah, there have been Glitch accounts hacked. Recently there was one about someone losing 8000 currants, which obviously wasn't a big deal, but it shows that it can occur. I agree with the posters above: it's pretty simple to just change your password.

  • Dys - what the hell would LAbS' political affiliation have to do with anything?!? That's a rude and narrow minded question and assumption.

LAbS - there isn't really gold farming or hacking in Glitch. I'm not sure {being on the player end} what type of security they have {if there have been hacking attempts or not} but it seems to be a rather non-issue. I'm a WoW player, and I have the Authenticator - even that doesn't make accounts 100% safe FWIW.

I'm not a paying customer, I don't know if paying customers have their accounts hooked up to a credit card, if that is the concern, but I'm sure that is also a non-issue.
Posted 87 days ago by Pixieyelsraek Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But "hacking", too, can mean quite a number of things - quite a few of the "hacking" incidents I've seen on other websites at least seem to have involved people gaining access to someone's account by coming upon a non-logged-out session, by guessing/finding/being told the password, accessing an email account and resetting passwords associated with that account, or guessing so-called "security" questions along the lines of "insert your birth place here". The mere fact of someone's account having been accessed does not necessarily mean that there is a security flaw on the side of the service. I might see a bit more merit in the suggestion if the OP could be induced to tell us what exactly should be changed, but as it is...
Posted 87 days ago by Not a Princess Subscriber! | Permalink
  • We already have Glitch HQ, so why not add on an authenticator? More security options is NEVER a bad thing.

Also, the game hasn't "officially" launched yet. You'll see at least see *some* attempts post-launch, especially if the game proves to be a smash. Don't underestimate the irreverence of sellers in any game using currency. (Heck, credits are totally worthless in Star Trek Online, yet you'll still see spammers linking to their "deals" in the general chat).

  • re: dys' comment...

tl;dr It's probably a tongue in cheek joke/question referencing current events in the USA.

It's a reference to all the recent, yes republican pushed, laws to discourage in-person voter fraud.

However, there is essentially no in-person voter fraud that would be prevented by a different ID card. A dozen cases(maybe) in the *entire* USA from about 125 million votes.

    12 of 125,000,000.

The more restrictive laws however disenfranchise millions...mostly the elderly, poor, and college students who don't already have whatever type of ID the new laws want. (Including a WWII vet and another 90 yro woman who couldn't prove she was eligible to vote because she didn't have the new "right" ID or a birth certificate.)

When asked for cases of voter fraud the examples given usually would not have been prevented by a different ID, which is pretty much what the 20 or so new anti-voter fraud laws require.

The logic behind the new laws is circular....like the original poster "There should be more security because things should be more secure"

...with no actual reason to think things aren't already secure.

When I read the original post I thought of the republican voter fraud laws too lol...which goes to show that Dys and I have been paying toooooonnnnnssss of attention to legislation and political strategy over the last year.

Without being in the USA (and paying attention to new laws) I can see how it would be taken as rude. Though I doubt it was meant to be rude just a bit of a joke. Without thinking that not everyone would make the same connection.

  • If I was going to the trouble to cap your email, the pass to your glitch account would be the last thing I was interested in. Credit cards and bank accounts yeah....access to your rube weed not so much. And by trouble I mean enticing you to come get all the free glitch goodness and tips from my www.coolglitchstoofnotaphishingsite.com. Just log in with your pass. Not too much trouble at all.

eta: Op, if there is legitimate concern on your part you should tell us what it is. Not just an all-inclusive batten down the hatches", but rather this needs to be addressed over here because there is a vulnerability that worries me.

  • Aw man, I thought you meant security feature as in introducing some sort of Bouncery skill to the game. That would've been neat.

  • I think we should have security gnomes on home streets.

They would be like normal gnomes only with

    SECURITY SUNGLASSES

and security blankies for when you get cold

  • ^^^^BLANKIES!!!!!!!!^^^^^^

You could make them with general fabric and Random Kindnesses!

(As for the original question... well... you have to log in with a password to play. Not sure what else you'd want...)

  • ok wait - do we or need Papers to vote in Glitch elections or not?

If a rule like this had been in place for the previous election I'm pretty sure Ur would be the happy home of Alpacas aplenty.

  • I would LOVE street bouncers! That would seem to impliment the whole want of seperation of "chat blocking" from "street blocking" issue that people have been complaining about. :-DDD

  • You'd be surprised re: reasons people have to break into accounts. It may seem like there isn't an advantage to it, but there definitely is. For one, some accounts have paid features like subscriptions or credits, and credits can be applied to furniture which can in turn be traded (and then sold). Two, hacking into an account gives you direct access to a person's house and everything that's in it, including furniture. Three, if the user has a tower one can, again, take the furniture, anything in SDBs not for sale, and anything on top of furniture being used as decoration. Four, you have access to their currants. Five, you can wreck their home street and remove everything just out of spite - pour wine of the dead, release animals, take machines, et cetera.

For big games like WoW, people may do these things to farm gold (or in this case, currants) to sell for real money to other accounts.

A less profitable but still valid reason to do it is just being extremely greedy in-game and wanting other people's things. Trust me when I say people will do dickish things over pixels. I've personally seen at least one person take a friend's password and take everything that was in their account, shamelessly. Not in Glitch, but in a game much, much smaller than Glitch.

That said I'm pretty sure TS takes care of account security as much as possible, at least.

  • I like this! I have always wanted stuff like this, like it would be nice if you had to add a person in order for them to be able to harvest your crops, because mine always get stolen...... And I have had people that I am enemies with in Real Life bring it into the glitch world and they reported my account twice for no reason and I got banned. The funny thing is, though, I had her blocked the WHOLE TIME. So there was no way she could have possibly had anything against me. O well.
Posted 87 days ago by Sutton Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If people are taking *your* crops I suggest you revoke their keys.  If you mean front street, well....

Also, account security issues aren't the same as issues arising from interactions with other players in the game.

Also also, I agree with Pixieyelsraek about the street bouncer/street vs chat block thing :)

  • The best security feature on your account is YOU. Dont give out your passwords, dont give out your emails, etc. etc. etc.

As with any game, no matter how good the security features are on the game,in the end it is actually up to you to keep your account secure. All the security features in the world wont do a bit of good if you are stupid enough to give out your password.
