Crab badge

How about we all keep listing which blocks were played on a particular day for a crab. For example, I'm asking everyone who comes by the Uplands Verge Crab 2nd of Remember and these are the ones they just played:

bb1
xs5
dg4
bb4
skipped some time
dr1

  • this quest is a personal nightmare. I don't know an ideal strategy, but I've cycled through every music box with a single crab, twice now. at least 3 times, he had just heard the MB I played for him. no hope for rare ones. :(

  • I have a full set of all the music blocks and I've been playing them one at a time.

So far:  bb 1-5   db 1-5  xs 1-5
    dg 4,5
    dr 5

  • I think that the "less heard block" may be the musicblock that only beta players have. Which would be a bit inapropiate if it counts.

  • @Aumir, it's whichever the crab has heard least recently. so it *could* be GNG, but it won't be all the time.

  • Nope, it's not GNG. I've tried that one on crabs several times in different locations. Maybe some other beta tester had just played him a GNG...?

  • I will attest that it is not always GNG. I have tried GNG on the crab and did not get the badge. It is definitely the least recently heard musicblock.

  • I had heard that the music block was supposed to be the very first music block you ever played for a crab, after you had played every music block for a crab at least once. Then again... someone else told me this was not true, so I'm not sure.

  • It doesn't matter if you don't play all the music boxes for the crab, the goal is to play the one he has LEAST heard that day. I havce the badge and its totally random, but i did get it soon after a new day :)

  • The crabs hate me. I have tried since Beta. Everyone who has gotten the badge says its totally random. So maybe one day when I least expect it, I will happenchance on the right one and get that friggin' badge. Oh, and the smuggler hates me too. lol

  • I carry around a couple of random musicblocks and play them to the crabs I meet.  Every few days I swap those out for different ones and repeat ad nauseum.  Not that this has worked so far....

  • This badge is quite frustrating, because it feels like there's no rhyme or reason to it as an individual player or even when working as a group. The Happy Crabs group seems to have given up on chasing this badge, convinced that it's bugged. Some people seem to have received the badge even when they played the musicblock that was played MOST recently. Perhaps it was bugged 5 months ago, but perhaps it has been fixed since?

Also, looking through the threads, I don't see record of them having sufficiently tested the play-every-block pattern. Since there are 26 musicblocks (5 x 5 + GNG), we could need up to 26 players each playing a different block, one at a time, for one person to receive the badge. It's a pain to coordinate, but maybe it's worth trying again.

  • And of course the crabs could all be liars.

  • Melody, at the time the Happy Crabs group was testing, the GNG block did not exist.

And, yes, we did have 25 players each playing a different block, and then a 26th who played the first block again.

You must have at least n+1 players because the first person to play a block for the crab cannot play any other block for that crab in that game day.  Only the people who are not in the first 25 are likely to earn the achievement.

And, there are (now) at least 27 music blocks.  The extremely rare SB -1 and the GNG are not in any of the 'sets'.

  • I try to actively ignore the existence of this badge, except for when I see a crab (always directly after donating all my music blocks) and flail at chickens to get a block to play at him. It'll probably be the last badge I ever get, including that 27-hour Game of Crowns one.

  • Windborn, I realize there were fewer blocks at the time of the Happy Crabs group's testing. I did see the plans and workbook for the signup, but I didn't see the results recorded anywhere. I still wonder if the mechanism may have been altered since 5 months ago.

You only really need N blocks max for someone to get an achievement, because the crab should have heard a musicblock before the group arrives, but N+1 would confirm whether that 1st musicblock played is the one to earn the badge later.

I suspect that SB-1 is not a part of the Crab's list due to its extreme rarity and people still getting badges, but that would need confirmation. GNG may or may not be in the list, but confirmation would also be nice.

  • Actually we timed the start of the sequence for the beginning of a new day, just to be sure that we knew exactly which blocks, in which order, had been played for that crab that day.  Whether or not the crab "should" have heard a music block, we made certain that the blocks played after the "day" timer was reset were ones we knew about.

People were getting badges before the GNG block existed, so it may or may not be true that TS has changed the achievement since reset.

  • I've tried playing GNG several times with no luck. In fact one time the wretched crab was quite indignant and said it had 'Just heard that one' and didnt even give me a currant!
