Element Losses While Grinding

I have been having some perplexing element losses while grinding.  I am a very active miner and I use the Humbaba buff to grind a LOT of rock in single operations.  And because I can't stand wasting the common elements by having 'elements discarded because there is no place for them' I have bought a lot of extra Element Pouches.  Generally when I grind, I pick up several of the empty pouches.  Right now I have seven pouches that I switch in and out of my cabinet as needed.  I often carry them to a shrine to donate the thousands of excess Red and Blue that build up for pretty good credit from the gods.

I've had a few instances recently where I ground enough beryl that there were many many red elements.  In one instance more than 10,000 red elements from a single grinding operation.  I started out that grinding session with two completely empty element pouches as usual. The grinding session reported that 'xxxx' Red Elements were discarded because it produced more than 10,000, but then... no Red elements at all were in the two pouches when I looked.  So not just the greater-than 10k elements were dispersed, all the Red elements were dispersed.

I am wondering how unusual it is for someone to micro-manage their grinding operations as much as I am.  Am I confusing the server by swapping pouches in and out of use as much as I am?  This area of the code needs further testing, IMO.  It isn't that big a deal for me to loose 10,000 red elements.  I would be upset if I lost thousands of shiny though.  The problem also might not be in the pouch switching.  Has the code been tested when someone grinds 800+ rocks at a time?  That's what I have been doing, to get the most use out of the Humbaba buff.

  • No elements are ever of excess as long as you mine and grind evenly. Usually when I grind, I grind 250 rocks at a time at home with 10 element bags to catch any possible overflow. To use up all the red elements, I usually create cosmox for no no powder.

  • What does 'mine and grind evenly' mean?  I had two element bags in my inventory, they both were completely empty.  I ground enough beryl that it produced about 12,000 red elements.  It should have discarded 2000 and both bags should have had 5,000 red elements in them.  The screen reported that ~2000 had been discarded.  And that 10,000 had been produced.  But both bags had zero red elements.  That's a bug in the software.

  • This is a known bug. See here. (Though it doesn't say much.)

To get your red elements, grind beryl in smaller amounts, without the humbaba buff.

  • When I said mine and grind evenly, I mean mining sparkly, beryl and dullite in equal amounts. For example, if you just mine tons of sparkly and then grind them, your element bags will be overflowing with tons of sparkly and blue elements but not enough green and red.

  • Which rock provides the most green elements? I'm mining lots of sparkly and beryl, filling up my elemental pouch pretty quick, but the green elements always stay behind.

EDIT: Oops, just noticed this is the Bugs forum :) Simply searched for 'green elements' and reacted.
