Nooo! My dream house! (Edit: YAY! My dream house! :D)
The house I had had my eye on was sniped away just as I was borrowing the last couple thousand currants I needed for it from Kelfin. :< Sympathize with me!
The thing about the houses is that almost none of them appeal to me. The Alakol mansions are too sterile, the tree houses are cute but a little too rustic (and not enough price variety), I don't like the cave houses at all, the firebog ones are dim and I never do anything in the firebogs anyway, and in Groddle Meadow, there is one theme of house that I find acceptable (the classy arty one), and two that are okay, and the rest of them are LOATHESOME because I find them devastatingly unglitchy (retro video games = not Glitch).
My dream house was the very last one of the classy arty ones in Groddle Meadow. D:
Tell you what my Theoretical dream house would be, though. Top-tier (5 patches, max garden, etc) in Uralia, preferably with an animal pen.
I have no idea. I had a Tamila treehouse in beta, which was okay back then, except that it was fucking IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE and wayyyyyy too far from the subway. And not enough patches.
I would vastly prefer an extra two plots to a garden. =P
I love my arty house, so I feel for you. I also adore the design of the '60s houses in Groddle Meadow, but they're a bit smaller. Treehouses are great, too, but you're right, they don't vary enough in size/price. Aside from that, I think I said on another thread of the 50k Alakol houses "I like it but I don't want to live in it", and that goes for most of the other designs.
It will probably be gone before you see this but just in case there is in fact one 'arty' house left in the meadow in case you still really prefer that one: www.glitch.com/realty/LA9EP...
My friend has one in Buckward Vale, she said she might prefer to live in the firebogs. I'll ask her to let you know in game if/when she moves so you can get first dibs on buying it if you like. I'm sure she'd like it to belong to someone who really really wants one. Until then, step away from that babby :)
Huh, I had one of those arty houses before the reset. (because like you I wasn't too keen on any of the others) But I found that while I liked the exterior, I really didn't like the interior at all. Then when I found out that it had less cabinet space than the other houses at the same price (this may have been fixed now?) I started to look around. Got myself a lovely vege house after the reset, the interior and exterior don't irk me, and it has the better cabinet capacity <3
Good luck getting the one you want!
Edit: Nope, the cabinet space difference is still there. The 15k arty houses have 24 cabinet space while all the other 15k houses have 32 cabinet space.
I love the interior of the arty house the most. I hate that it only has a 24 slot cabinet when all the other 15k in the same area have a 32 slot one, just for the principle more than the space.
Anyway, Arii, they have that style in Mien Evoke (Bortola). I think I saw at least one left for sale there, maybe two or three when I was walking down the blocks. It's where I'm living, in that model.
ETA: Well, guess not. Just glanced at the realty to double check. Sorry. :(
Well, I own one of the retro video game houses in Groddle Meadow, and I absolutely love it!
What does "devastatingly unglitchy" even means? if it's part of the game, it's part of glitch, in my honest opinion.
@Treesa: It's my nickname for a particular theme of house found in Groddle Meadow and some parts of Bortola. It's because it has art in it. XD Scribble posted about this particular one earlier: www.glitch.com/realty/LA9EP...
@Tanuki -- It's referencing other games, games that have a completely different style than Glitch, which kind of rubs me the wrong way. I prefer it when everything is smooth and internally consistent because I'm kind of OCD with worldbuilding like that.
I think it's great that you like that theme! Obviously they wouldn't have made it if they didn't think it would suit the tastes of some of the population. :) I am by NO means saying that they should do away with them. It's just that they aren't to my personal taste, just like mint ice cream isn't to my taste. I'm sorry if my previous description came across as over-harsh. It wasn't meant to be a judgment on retro-video-game-house-owners or anything.
Uuh I guess I didn't really formulate my question adequately, what I meant is that there is no set "glitch" style, it's a game of everything and everyone, and the fact that it caters to a broad audience is part of glitch itself, there's a lot of other pop culture references here and there that aren't from glitchian origins, however when you put it all together it is what it is. In short, what I mean is that everything is glitch, and that there's really nothing that wouldn't be consistent with the game's theme, considering it is imagination as a whole.
Aww Arii I totally understand this feeling. Obviously there are a lot of houses to choose from, but I can be REALLY picky about it! Since reset the first thing I did was buy my house to ensure I got the one I wanted, but when I started beta I had picked out the perfect house design in the meadows with the perfect number (I hate odd numbers!) in the perfect location, it was all perfect. It was a 9k house and after a lot of saving up (for a noob 9k is a lot) I had just about reached my goal when somebody bought the house!
Well, I can see your point, but I disagree that there is no set Glitch style. There is a definite style to the artwork, and although it often varies dramatically from region to region (look at the differences between Uralia, Tamila, and the Ancestral Lands, for example), there's still a consistent, familiar feel to it across the board.
I also disagree that it caters to a broad audience. I believe that there are a lot of people who DO like it--and those people certainly like it very much--, but I don't think that they represent a particularly extravagant sample of the total population.
So there *is* a style of Glitch, and in my opinion, the video game houses do not conform to it. When I'm playing Glitch, I want to play Glitch, and I want to see the style I have come to expect, and the artwork that is, frankly, extraordinarily gorgeous--I don't want to have a house with Pacman and Mario in it. I don't want to eat mint ice cream.
That's all I meant. :)
Quick sidenote: Does anyone know if a staff member has mentioned if there will ever be the possibility of owning two houses? I would love to have one in the meadows and one in the firebogs, although if I had to choose I would pick firebogs.
When I saw one of the ice/winter themed houses in the meadows for sale, I actually got out of bed at 3 am (saw it on the iPad) to buy it! I completely understand. And my wood tree is hot ;)
Well the other Glitch could have very well been saving up to get the same house. Hopefully since so many new Glitches came to life they will add more housing!
@Gadzooks -- Yes. Or someone needs to write a Greasemonkey script that will sort the realty pages by something more sensible than the current clusterfuck. Sorting by price, or by theme, or SOMETHING would be better.
@Susan: I would, but I don't know if they'd go for it. D: What if they're a beta tester who is buying back their old house, huh?

My reasoning is that if you're in game I can IM you the minute it's up instead of making the information available to the whole forum in case someone yoinks it away. Sorry I don't have any out of game messaging service. I'm happy to sell it now and maybe if you refresh enough you'll get it if you're willing to risk it?
Excellent, look after the wood tree and animals well and they'll look after you. Enjoy your new house, I'm happy I know it's owned by someone who'll appreciate it. I've sent you a house warming gift too :) Have fun!
