Wild piggies & patches.

Today (4/17) there was a distinct lack of wild piggies in-game. There were plenty yesterday, but perhaps today so many people had leveled up their animal kinship so that they are keeping their piggies in their homes. There were no piggies anywhere from 2 til after 5, so doing the Piggy Plop quest was challenging - I had to have someone make a piggy for me!

Is it possible that you could make sure that when a street has no piggies, the wild piggy population regenerates?

Similarly, in places where people had started to plant seedlings, there was then a lack of patches to tend. Granted, you can still water the seedling, but what if you are looking for a place to plant? Is spontaneous patch generation a possibility?

Thanks!

  • I think what happened today was that one player had collected them all, and didn't realize it would have the effect it did. Anyway, he/she had a lot of piggies in his/her house and pretty soon after that you couldn't find one anywhere.

  • I understand; my suggestion is that the game auto-corrects for a lack of wild piggies. Once the game goes live, there will be collectors. Other players should be able to continue un-hampered regardless.

  • For the trees, I think probably the patch density should be set by them so it looks ok. The trees now require *a lot* of maintenance, having more would mean they would just die. I don't think any quests require you to plant trees, you do have to make seeds for one, but you don't have to plant them. I didn't see any time today where there weren't a lot of free patches though.

  • maybe a quest whereupon growing a piggy from an egg, you release it in a particular location.

  • if certain areas run low on livestock, that could be an incentive for extra xp...to repopulate the area.

  • I thought Thursday was a gal, but I think I may have been thinking of the Addams Family.
Pigs in houses should be taxed-- an excessive, progressive taxation, imposed entirely without representation.

  • I have been thinking about this, and it was actually a very interesting situation, seeing how the players tried to create their own solution. I know Stewart ended up sending in a fresh piggie population (I seem to remember seeing some chat about that) but what if that wasn't automatic that they would regenerate, or they did so very very slowly? What if the the players had to find a resolution for this, or try a series of things, like:

creating new piggies themselves (which people did do)
appealing to the hogger of pigs directly to release some of them
making offerings to the local shrine for more pigs
    importing pigs from another area

It was really more like an experiment in the spirit of "anyone's actions have the ability to affect every other player in the game".

  • Yes, for all the "fixes" this was probably what I will remember the most from the last testing in terms of sociability. We had a little "pig sanctuary" going, and I got to bring some spices, which I was otherwise just collecting for no reason to someone who could make pigs. :)

I think a tax for pig hoarders is a really good idea. Or a cost of keeping them? That would possibly stop hoarding a bit? The more pigs you have the higher the tax rate is, same as income tax in most places?

"appealing to the hogger of pigs directly to release some of them" by Lalu - love it, the 'hogger of pigs' :)

  • i don't think taxation of hoarded piggies would work, since with "remote herdkeeping" the pigs are going to turn a profit, and a tax would merely lower the profit somewhat.

more effective would be to place a cap on how many pigs could be placed in any one house.

if too many piggies were in the location, you wouldn't be able to drop your pig.

because it is inhumane to overcrowd piggies! let them roam free!

  • I was actually kidding about the taxation part..

I just like the idea of limited resources creating a situation that the players have to resolve and which isn't part of a pre-determined quest.
