It finally happened...unfortunately.

So, in an effort to get more out of Glitch, I joined the Streetwalkers route, and lo and behold I came home today and almost everything was gone. I'm not upset for me really, but I had a lot of nice things there for other people. Herbs, tincture kit, cauldron, some semi-rare cubimals (at least I think they were semi-rare) and some other things like Flaming Humbaba's.

I am not asking for seeds, or anything to replace what was taken, but does anyone know a way I can see my visitors log again? I know most of the people who visited and want to block those that I don't know.

Any help in this regard would be much appreciated.

Thanks and take care!

  • Wait... if you "had a lot of nice things there for other people," why are you upset that someone took those things?

  • Home streets are public. Don't put anything (non-"placed") there that you're not okay with a random person taking.

  • I'm not upset that things were taken so much as I'm a bit disappointed that someone cleaned out the entire street, however, you both bring up great points.

I'd still like to know if there is a way to see a visitors log after you first view it though.

  • Unless the butler sent it to your chat in an IM, you can't see it. Did you check your local chat window? It may still be there; scroll up and look.

I don't know why the devs didn't program the butlers to be able to tell you who visited again. It's annoying that they can't.

  • Ah well, guess it had to happen eventually. Now it's going to take some time to get everything back in order so people can enjoy their visit.

Thanks for the suggestion @Tonya, but it appears it was too late.

  • Rorschach it's a safe bet if you leave semi-rare cubis out and nice stuff (Like cauldrons etc..) they are going to be taken if not by the first then the 2nd or 3rd person.  Seriously if you put everything the same out in order again it will be picked up again.  That's why folk leave stuff on the ground outside their houses and note poles etc.  Unless it's obviously a decoration (even then it would help if you would leave a note to that effect for passers-by).

basically the rule of thumb is, if you're going to be upset at something taken, don't leave it out :?

  • Even if you leave virtually valueless stuff outside, it will be taken.  I set up an art installation for someone which could not have been more than 100c worth of stuff, but was a pain to set up.

Just as I was leaving, someone showed up and stole everything right in front of me, even as I was asking them to stop.

I rebuilt it and it was gone again a couple of hours later.

On the other hand, I had a salmon spawning across my yard for a good week before someone stole them all, so you can have art, as long as you don't publically advertise your location.  For a little while, anyway.

  • When I check my butler's visitor list and it's too short to spawn an IM, I click on each name and open their profile so that, in effect, I have the list in the form of browser tabs.

  • Yesterday I had a visitor take all of my produce from my porch, just above my sign that reads (Please use this produce to feed the piggies if you wish). I also had seeds in front of my garden, they took all the seeds, stripped the garden and didn't replant. That was everything I had out and they took it all. My butler only showed two visitors, one a regular, and the other I BLOCKED. I visited their profile and their tag line was something like "I'm glad to help out whenever I can". Irony. This was also my first time to be cleared out and I know that they are well within the rules of the game to do this, but it is still disappointing.

  • But yes aside from a few things that they cant take, Stills / Feeders / Collectors / Icons/ things like that, everything else is considered Free. Plus many ppl leave free things next to the signpost or in a Free Pile. Theres even a Route (Freebie Jeebies) for doing so. The most common practice is to leave something if you take something. But I have a pile and periodically its completely wiped out, BUT like i said this is actually a common albeit slightly annoying occurance, and isn't all that unexspected. If its valuable to you then just don't leave it in the front yard.

  • I wish there was a better Visitor's List. But until then, I don't want to leave free things on my street.

  • It is really disappointing to get cleared out like that. Being on a route I frequently come home to empty, dirty plots. Thankfully more often I come home to full plots and sometimes even kind words or presents though. There are more good glitchen than bad but the bad ones sure do make things a bit sad.

I did have an idea of a better way to track visitors that wouldn't be to difficult to implement (I don't think). Please don't take this as me plugging my idea. Since everyone was discussing it here I thought I would point it out so it can possibly get implemented in the future.

  • I know that whomever did it was well within game rules to do it, and I know it happens on probably a daily basis, it's just going to take some time to replenish everything for the great people that visit and that is what's so sad about it, but, it won't stop or prevent me from continuing to do it.... :D

  • My 2 currants on the subject of free piles: I keep a free pile and I used to feel kind of weird when my street was picked clean. I retrained myself. Now I go to my street eagerly anticipating it being picked bare. I'm hopeful that somebody actually wanted that stuff, and I don't care if they sell it or eat it or pile it up in mountains of gathered and hoarded stuff in their homes. I put it there for taking. It was a gift. That's the end of my part of the transaction. Whoever feels like it's worth putting in a pocket is welcome to it. And wow, if one Glitch takes it all, I just made their day, didn't I?

That obviously doesn't work if you want to control who does what on your street, but it's liberating to be an ungriefable Glitch. I'm not trying to tell anyone that they should be like me. Just letting you know my experience because it has been a good one. And I totally agree that our butlers need longer memories. The thing that gets me is immediately losing track of who left what package.

  • +1 Aleph Zero. My experience has been the same. I retrained myself, now I truly do enjoy my playtime much more because of it. And I love the phrase "ungriefable Glitch".

  • I really admire your take on this, Aleph. I try to think of it in those terms, but ocasionally people exagerate.

  • How would someone know if some stuff was the whole thing or the last dregs or a bigger pile?
Posted 5 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You wouldn't without being a mind reader.  I did block someone for clearing the pile (it was only unlucky for the said person as they were the only person to visit during that game day) then I realised I had stuck it all under as sign saying free goodies....so of course unblocked again quick.  I will block though if someone leaves my gardens weedy - it's the one thing I can't tolerate, peeps running through harvesting and leaving a mess for the next chap/gurly to clear out.  Bad form!

  • But isn't the visitor's log only for the most recent game day? I know the rock will save the highest amount of iMG from activity since your last visit but the butler only reports one game day back. I was off for three in-game days and came back to over 500 iMG meaning that I had good traffic and yet "no one had visited."

And we will be seeing lots more traffic since the Gregarious Gunther badge came out. That is 503 visits to streets of strangers. I completed that on the first weekend it was offered and met some really great players but I also startled a couple of players who thought their streets were private. Anyone can get to your street through a note pole listing or even a post on global chat. So please be careful what you place. And, sadly, items are not lockable in cultivation mode like they are in house decoration mode. I think we all wish they were.

I loved whoever's street had the hundred chocolate bunny trophies and I would not dream of touching a collection such as that... but a fresh player who has only been in the game a week (yes, even without invites, there are players coming in a steady stream from old invite batches) is going to see "WOW! Free chocolate bunnies!!!" and snap them up. *sigh*

  • Really? I thought it reported since the last time you asked (which is why you can't ask again).

Clearly there is room for improvement to this feature...

  • Stuff gets left on my street, sometimes I leave things, sometimes it gets cleared out, sometimes someone leaves food and my (free range) piggies eat it. It happens.

If I am running a route and I want the homeowner to have something, I leave it with their Butler now with a little note. I actually try to leave something for every homeowner I visit, even if it's just a music block, with a little note thanking them.

I don't take stuff from free piles because I don't really need anything, but I often contribute to them when I see them there, or when I was working on the Uber Horticulturist badge I'd harvest herbs, shuck and replant, and then drop the herbs for someone else (I have way more purple than I need).

But not everyone's going to "play fair", and honestly, I'm okay with that. It takes all kinds, and while I think that people should have the decency to leave OBVIOUS street art projects alone, there's always going to be someone.

It's a game. It's an incredibly fun, addicting game, but it is, in fact, a game. I'm going to make more of an effort to leave things on people's streets to make up for those who take everything, and I would encourage others to do so as well.

  • Hey, those barter/freebie piles are really great when you need to clean out your bags on the road, eh? More room for stackables and valuables!

  • i have a little visitor that comes to my freepile and cleans out everything she can carry every time she logs on.

on the one hand, i leave things out for people to take. i have no expectations about need or whether anyone will replace things.

on the other hand, i am not a fan of this one little person who seems to use my yard as her primary source of groceries and resale income.

yesterday ALONE she took a stack of fried rice, a stack of abbasid ribs, an awesome pot, a bubble tuner, a fancy pick, a famous pugilist grill, a blender, a set of alchemical tongs, a superscraper, and a number of other things i didn't catalog.

she also left my bogs depleted and my garden harvested but uncleared.

by my count she's taken at least seventeen awesome pots since she started coming by.

it delights me when random visitors come and take stuff. that's what it's there for. it delights me to think that somebody just passing through will find something they like and think "oh! what a nice surprise!" and help themselves.

it does not delight me when one habitual visitor takes all she can carry, leaving nothing for anyone else.

i am going to bet that when i block her, she will be offended.

  • Everyone & particularly Aleph, you've made valid points, and I love the thought of making someones day. Maybe I'll just leave a note pole that asks people to leave notes if they feel so inclined.

Glad to see a lot of people are unhappy with the stuffed sock memory span of the butlers.

  • I love the free taking of glitch. A while back, I let someone into my house and they stole as much as they could before I kicked them out. After that, I treat my important stuff with the deference it deserves and install it in a cabinet or SDB. I love having visitors and being an "ungriefable glitch" (thanks for that term). I do find that people will take all the stuff. However, more often than not, I see more stuff on my street than the last time I came. This community reminds me of the good heart most people have.

  • I leave stuff in my yard that's not a problem if it goes, the only thing that annoyed me recently was when I popped out for fifteen minutes and left the piggies plopping, when I got back most of the plops was gone although that's isn't a huge loss it was stuff that was obviously not abandoned any more than briefly and hardly up for grabs.
