The Golden Deck: "End-game" upgrade/specialization

As you all know, Lil Speck mentioned that they want to focus on people doing better in an area instead of having "all areas" covered exactly the same. This is a problem with beta users, as they already have all skills, and high amounts of iMG to boot means also that they got all upgrades for their skills (or at least, the ones they want, I don't see the appeal for Spellbound Spindle if I want to make General Fabric o_O )

This suggestion comes to further strengthen the upgrade system and give both old and new players something to look forward to: A substitute deck with exceptional upgrades. The Golden Deck. The cards there will power up an upgrade skill to an even better level, but only ONE of them will be able to be chosen.

To enter The Golden Deck, you would need to find in your deck a "Golden Card". This one would cost a fair amount of iMG, based on your skills learned, your level, tank/quoin/brain upgrades and any other upgrade you would have purchased. So buying just this card could be a hefty punch for the late-game player. Once you purchase it, you would retrieve it as an item, like Reshuffle or Free Get Out of Hell Cards.

Upon use, the normal deck of cards would reshuffle, BUT then you wouldn't get your usual type of cards: instead of that, a set of max 3 (depending of your possible requirements met) golden colored cards would appear, each of them with a special version of your usual upgrades. Each one would too cost a really high amount of iMG too, so it would be like a "two part payment". Upon choosing, the other 2 cards, if avaiable, would be discarded and your old 3 cards would show up again. If you don't get the Golden Upgrade you want, you would be able to reshuffle as usual, once per day if you already hadn't used it, or by using a Reshuffle card. Also, if for some reason you don't want to return to your normal deck, a free option for it would show up (with a confirmation request) but you would NOT get your Golden Card refunded.

Still, to buy a Golden Upgrade, you would need as said before the "best upgrade" or skill related to that one. If you still are "too young" and aren't able to purchase one, the Golden Card wouldn't be used. How would you know you can learn a Golden Upgrade? Once you would meet the requirements, you would get a (automated) mail message (in your Glitch Mailbox!) from "someone": A "master cook", a "master tinkerer", a "master herb/crop gardener", etc... who would maybe tell you have some promise or something like that... but lil speck it is better doing those kind of things! So I think the "notice" part would be best left for them to do!

If you ever buy a Golden Upgrade though, be warned: you can ONLY purchase ONE and keep it active. If you ever use a Golden Card again and choose another, it will overwrite your Golden Upgrade! This of course means you would specialize in a field, which is the entire point of this suggestion, but you still would be able to change back and forth between specializations, depending on how many Golden Cards and iMG you have : )

This would open up to people being able to be, for example with "Shrine On" upgrade, "Special shrine primers": a person who would have a special multiplier for all donations made in a Shrine s/he Primed in a Rook Attack, or "Special shrine donators", which would in a Rook Attack multiply his/her own (not the others) donations, making a nice anti-Rook combo. Maybe we would need stronger Rook attacks then, maybe ; ) Other skills would have also one, two or more possible Golden Upgrades.

And, that is it. Comments, ideas relating this, critics, thrown tomatoes, can happen from now on!

Fast Edit: And I just thought that maybe the Golden Upgrade could also require as payment, not only iMG, but an Emblem (or even Icon) from the Giant of the skill/upgrade related to it. It would make sort of sense as a "godly" upgrade!

  • I will need to read and absorb this again when not on my phone, but after a quick read, I think this is a great idea. Love the thought of a harder-to-obtain upgrade that could be temporary...but it would cost you to a) get it in the first place and b) change it. A nice lure for upper-level players and a cool way to specialise.

  • How about a Giant Favor card instead... one that makes you better at all the skills for which your Giant is the primary. I see it costing big iMG and perhaps an icon as well.

  • Skill ideas :
Link this in with levitation and you could turn levitation on/off using your orb instead of having a set amount of time.
For cooking it would give you special recipes that might show up as a 7 course meal and be worth 4-500 energy each.
Harvesting you might get giant harvests, one step above super, that would give you half of a stack say 125-175.  Maybe have this tied to one type of plant (spice, gas, wood, etc) instead of everything.
If it's used toward crafting you could make tools that would have double durability and points.

  • Love this idea! I really like Pascale's take, too. That could be especially interesting and increase the significance of Giants, which in my opinion is something this game needs.

  • There's been rumors of a "worker bot" being built.  Why not make it something that a few glitches need to build together.  Sounds too easy right? What if the skills used to build one out of the five sections requires to switch to a different skill set or using team work 5 glitches each take a skill set and make parts to build the bots?
