I just dropped another level!

Since the game has been closed this afternoon I just dropped another level. How and why did this happen again. I was a level 71 got dropped to 0, worked myself up to level 51 got dropped to 37 almost reached 38 and now I'm down to 36. This is very discouraging. Leave me at what ever level I am and raise the fricking levels if you want but quit retarding my game play, please. Thank you

    That's creepy!

  • I think xoxJulie means she was at Level 71 before the reset preceeding launch.

  • @ xoxJulie, To be fair the actual number that is your level doesn't really mean anything. It's just an arbitrary number derived through an equation that tells you how much exp/imagination you've earned since the last reset. All they did was redraw the equation so they could 'raise' the level cap up to sixty without actually raising any numbers. You still have the same amount of total imagination/exp earned (Which can be seen here.).

In short, your gameplay shouldn't be retarded, only your level :)

  • While the first two level drops were well known about ahead of time, I do have a question about the last drop. Perhaps I missed something in the 14+ pages of the R3 post.

Has this happened to others? Lost a couple of level? I didn't think there would be continued adjustments.

  • I've been periodically checking my profile page and my level staying the same all day.

  • I lost one level. (31 to 30.) I wonder why too.

eta: I only logged into the game once after the change iMG, to test for Cosma.

  • That's weeeeeeird.

  • I haven't. I was 39 after the imagination release and made it to 40... and I'm still 40 now.

  • If people's level numbers are changed at the end of this downtime, we will definitely be owed an explanation -- even though levels are arbitrary, people do care about them and even with the warning we got about the switch to imagination people were upset about that change. This housing reset is not, from what we've been told, supposed to affect imagination or level at all.

But. The game is down for a reason, they're digging around in its guts, and weird stuff can happen that then gets fixed, so if they did something that temporarily affects the display of levels, well, no harm no foul.

p.s. my level is right, as are those of my alternate characters. Dunno about you and Taco, neither of you appear to have levelled up after the switch to imagination so it's hard to tell.

  • Yea. I wouldn't worry about it until after the housing reset is done (since it could bounce back to where it's supposed to), though pointing it out is good, just in case they didn't realize something was amiss. If it's still different afterward, there definitely will need to be a fix or an explanation (which I am sure will happen).

  • Hmm, I suppose there could have been a tiny change in the formula they use causing some lower level players to experience some level changes? I was not affected, and if that were the case it might be because of the huge gaps between levels where I am. (Imagination wise.)

  • I never considered myself a lower level player and my game play isn't retarded just my level keeps changing and it's finally getting annoying. I like leveling up it feels like school when your finally one grade higher and I believe a lot of people like this type of accomplishment you feel like you did good.

  • I agree with that sentiment :) I guess it was easier for me to take comfort, since I was level 60 before the change. It meant that for a while I wasn't achieving anything in game with my actions, and now I'm rising in levels again :)

Sorry the code is messing with your number!

  • Well, I had just hit level 29 yesterday, and I'm still level 29 today, so I doubt there was an intended calculation change -- if the OP lost two levels, I should have lost a lot more.

  • Potentially it is a bug. Sending a Help report might be in order (although I doubt it would be acted on until tomorrow).

  • I did notice that a number of upgrades were finally added to my list of 'You had these before upgrades existed'. I know that initially, things like speedier learning of X skill class were available to me as upgrade cards, and hadn't been factored in as 'previously owned'- it could be that now, after those upgrades were applied, and the iMG that would have gone towards purchasing them docked from my totals, it might be juuuuuuust enough to drop a level. I honestly have no idea what level I was, but I could see this happening to a player with a ton of skills. My guess is that you'll get that level back in short order- you're probably just a few iMG shy now.

Of course, I could have any or all parts of this wrong, so take my rambling at face value.

  • Wrench, the iMG you spend on upgrades is never deducted from your level.

The total amount of iMG that you've earned is what the levels are based on. What you have spent (or not) doesn't affect that.

  • I thought I was going crazy. I could have sworn I was level 20 this morning (19 now).

Of course I still might be crazy and have been just imagining it. I just remember hitting level 20 (or so I thought) and getting a big pile of currants for it.

  • The total amount of iMG that you've earned is what the levels are based on

I was under the impression that if I spent iMG then I would need more to reach the next level.

  • Treesa, iMG for levels is cumulative, it doesn't matter how much you spend, you still need the same amount to level.
Posted 7 months ago by Lily Linguistic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • True. For instance, I spent 200k iMG over the last week, and had 200k until I was going to reach level 27. I still reached level 27 (and am still there), so iMG for levels is definitely cumulative and independent of what you spend. :)

  • @Treesa Nope, definitely not. I've spent 1.4 million iMG since the reset and earned just over 500k, and have gone up a level.

  • Helvete, you leveled up to 19 (not 20) yesterday. It is in your status updates (which is a totally independent published bit of text, not pulling out of any other system) so you can check it there. Our logs (which are separate) confirm that you hit 19.

xoxJulie and Millie, you both seem to be the level you were converted to as part of the switchover to imagination. Checking in a few more places, but there is really no bug I can imagine which could cause you to go down levels.

  • OK, thanks. I haven't been spending much because I thought I would have to work harder to level up. I know levels don't mean much anymore but they are still part of the game and help you to set goals.
