The Giant Both Formerly and Currently (and Probably Persistently) Known As Lem

Do you love Lem? Hate him? Only learn skills that Lem favors in some way? Live entirely off of Lemburgers? Have you painted him like one of your French girls?

No matter how you feel about Ur's most favored giant, I want to hear about it! Anything from a short comment to a vitriolic screed, in-depth interviews or the Lem-hater's manifesto. Poems, short stories, paintings or photos. Leave a comment here, mail me in game, IM me or send smoke signals across the ancestral lands--whatever works for you!

  • I don't think I've donated to one giant as much as I've donated to Lem...  Ihopehelikesallthecaterpillars

  • but what is Lem's stance on the Rook Wars i ask you? and where's the great library of UR. Something shady about a patron of learning without a library.

  • @Jugni - I feel ignorant!  Is this info part of the tower quest? I haven't done that yet, I should... Maybe that would help my understanding of this mysterious Giant.

oh also: www.glitch.com/forum/genera... has, for better or worse, influenced my view of Lem a lot...

  • Lem is an odd one.
He wants you to learn, the patron of Better Learning, but he doesn't seem to want you to write.
He lends his name to Meditative arts, but stops short when it comes to Martial Imagination and Piety.
He doesn't appear to like living things, nothing to do with animal, plants or sustenance in any way.
And oddly he doesn't endorse tinkering, but seems to favor engineering, but not construction, since he is not part of Blockmaking, Fuelmaking, Refining, mining, etc., anything to do with construction.
He wants you to explore, to look around, as you can see with support of Teleportation and Eyeballery, but he also seems to be against permanent records, his name is not associated with snapshot and as I mentioned before he is against penmanship. And I would guess, as well that he frowns on bureaucrats, since they are the pinnacle of record keeping. And from that you can say he is against construction, even permits or anything that hinders freedom.

Which is why he is the Giant that is revered by the group The Naked Glitch.

  • @Lara. that was definitely tongue in cheek, so feel free to ignore it.

But Crispa has a point i say - and i still hold by my no library = shady giant purporting to support learning.

  • Lem likes it when you throw meat in his toilet.

  • Lem used to be my main guy, now i'm more into Zille. But just like unnecessary movie remakes, Lem always comes around again. And again.

  • Many piggies have been nibbled and butterflies milked by me in order to sate the insatiable Lem.  Patron giant of learning and teleportation - it's no wonder he is leading the favor scoreboard by a wide margin.

  • @Jugni--You seem like the type to create your own underground library and admittedly, this makes me like you.

Perhaps Lem just didn't want to take all the basic, important skills? Perhaps the other Giants wouldn't let him?

  • I love Lem! I posted my pumpkin carving of Lem the other day. :3

  • It strikes me that the main barrier to our construction of a library is the inability to bind paper into books. But perhaps we should try anyway. We could find a side street somewhere and transcribe a few Wiki pages to get our reference section started. :)

  • As much as we can pretend to understand any of the Giants...

Lem is the Giant of travel.
Pathways and roadways. Distance. How we get fro here to there. So it makes perfects sense he is also the Giant of learning.

He however is not the Giant of knowledge...For knowledge is a location, and end point (or start point).

(As to libraries, the best option with the the tools we currently have you be "Bag Books." I forget who proposed the idea in the Idea forum.)

  • No libraries because giants haven't imagined books yet...

  • @lord Bacon-o

I don't know if Lem cares about pathways or roadways since he seems to abhor construction of any kind.

Though his minor support of engineering is a slight conundrum.

  • Hmm... I think Lem wants his Lemmings to learn and travel and gives them the basic tools to do so, but refrains from giving anything else so that he can watch what his Lemmings do afterwards.
