The skill you set up to learn between tests

at the end of the test, skills keep learning even in the down time - although you can't start learning new ones.

which skill you set up to learn between tests?

[we had a topic for this after the last test, and i figured why not do it again]

  • I set up mining IV.

I also rocked through most of the cooking skills today, to be able to set up Master Chef for next time.

  • Better Learning II Probably should have done this earlier tho....

  • v-primo, i didn't want the results from the last topic mixed in with results from this test.

  • no i mean i made ANOTHER one of these threads
Posted 21 months ago by V-Primo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So which thread are we keeping? :P I replied in the other one but there's more replies here.

  • I'm in Focused Meditation

  • the majority of the replie are us trying to figure out which one to keep but its up to the players but in mine you can also talk about the last QUEST you were on

  • Kicked off Mining IV.

Powered through a lot of skills this test. Managed to get Animal Kinship 6 and Remote Herdkeeping done, finished Tinkering 3, Engineering, Block Making, Fuel Making, Refining 2 (and some other lower tier skills done).

  • I did Focused Meditation to

  • Ok, my reply from the other thread then:

Last Skill: Refining 2, good for another nine hours or so.
    Last Quest: Rook Egg.

  • Transcendental Radiation... cause it was the longest one available. 4.5 hrs to go.

Not sure what the last Quest was.

  • mining IV for me. i finished mining III between last tests so was able to fit in a lot of learning this past test, including alchemy II.

though i wish i'd learned refining II overnight last night instead of queueing admixing, crystallography and tinkering II. but noooo i had to get fancy : \

  • alright alright im gonna be a good sport and post here
Last Skill: Mining II (still learning)
but could you at least make the title more professional :)
Posted 21 months ago by V-Primo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Mining IV, I figure the extra gems will make it easier to use favor with the gods to speed through the other skills.
Posted 21 months ago by Zaphod Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Zaphod, certainly. probably more effective than Better Learning in that way .. plus, you know, lots of currants if you want to go that direction.
Posted 21 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Alchemy II

It takes just under 10 hours
Posted 21 months ago by Ani Laurel Subscriber! | Permalink
  • seems like people are focusing on the mining/alchemy track to start. cool.

  • Help told everyone mining was the best way to go
Posted 21 months ago by Ani Laurel Subscriber! | Permalink
  • hopefully help knows what it is talking about : ]
Posted 21 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • dang wish i would have gone the mining route a while ago
Posted 21 months ago by V-Primo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I focused on mining and gardening, mining for the gems (favor and money,) and gardening for the ability to grow a garden and to make harvesting trees much more efficient.

I decided it would be easier to increase my yields with the gardening skills before I got into cooking, it will be a lot easier to make a batch of smoothies if I can pick 24 cherries at a time.
Posted 21 months ago by Zaphod Subscriber! | Permalink
  • and most of the cooking skills are relatively quick to learn. enough so that you can learn them as you need them.

Master Chef being the exception to this, of course.
Posted 21 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • intermediate admixing to get to no no powder. worked well for me.
Posted 21 months ago by en Subscriber! | Permalink
  • aw en .. just say no-no!
Posted 21 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I did the Alchemy ll skill while I was out of the game doing rl stuff (damn rl stuff :P ) and now I'm doing Transcendental Radiation - 3hrs and 58 mins to go on that one.
Posted 21 months ago by sgjo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • aw. Radiation is such a fun skill, especially once projects get going.
Posted 21 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Do tell, striatic!
Posted 21 months ago by Pirate Apples Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, Plz!! What Pirate said...since I only chose it coz it was the next longest one to learn - I didn't even read it first :D :D :D
Posted 21 months ago by sgjo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Mining III. If I'd known this test was going to be so long I'd have timed it so I could be learning mining IV, but oh well.
Posted 21 months ago by Aldaris Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i don't follow .. you want to know why master chef is good?

it isn't really good. at least not yet.

it is the one skill that lets you make really high energy foods, although creating those foods requires a lot of energy and time going in, primarily in harvesting and the cooking itself.

master chef is good for transforming lower energy foods by adding energy in .. so you don't get much more energy out .. but you DO greatly increase the energy to stack size ratio. which is at least a little bit important since inventory is inherently limited.

the new cooking interface also GREATLY increases the convenience of using the skill, compared to before, where you'd have to go through a million time consuming menus just to prep the ingredients.

still doesn't make me want to take up cooking, but it is a serious step up if you are a serious chef.

  • OK striatic. I think you're teasing us. But then, I am easily confused.

  • dupe
Posted 21 months ago by Pirate Apples Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's not terribly important to understand now cuz all kinds of things could change between today and the game's release.
Posted 21 months ago by Tingly Claus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • meditative arts 1 it's a 3+hour learning time...
Posted 21 months ago by Mystbecky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • When you radiate you send out energy to others. When there are 5-20 people working this can be a big help.
Posted 21 months ago by Ani Laurel Subscriber! | Permalink
  • it is actually pretty important to understand now, since it will help you better understand the changes when they happen .. and in the meantime you are helping the developers discover imbalances in gameplay, as well as discovering new ways to play the game.

    test. unapologetically.

  • @Anilover

Whew...ty - that's good to know coz striatic had me worrying that I might end up nuking y'all :D
Posted 21 months ago by sgjo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • sorry. i didn't mean to scare anyone : ]
Posted 21 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Alchemy 2 on the agenda! 9 hours.
Posted 21 months ago by tweetypie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • LOL striatic, you crack me up. I set up Alchemistry II for myself but one neat trick I did was grabbed a lot of shorter(ish) ones in the last four or five hours and used small amounts of giant favor, when I had a lot, to speed the skill learning up now and then so I could fit more learning in before shutdown, as I knew I was needing to have Alchemistry II run once game went down.

Hey, striatic, can you explain what you meant by "queueing....(several skills you listed there)"?
Posted 21 months ago by RM Subscriber! | Permalink
  • queueing:

i use this chrome extension by ping to load up a number of skills in a row, so that one ends the other begins.

it requires leaving the computer on and the browser open, but it means i can go to sleep or leave the house knowing that the entire time i'm away will be spent learning skills:

    glitch.li-ping.com/help_ski...
Posted 21 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The queue stops once the game closes, though, doesn't it? People discussing this in the help channel were saying that they could keep learning skills after closing, but that didn't make sense to me.

I had to leave during the test, and got back after it ended, so I didn't get to start another skill. If I had, it would've been Alchemy II or Animal Kinship IV. I did finish Intermediate Admixing, it seems, so hopefully I'll have some shrine powders next time around.

  • I'm going to read your link, striatic and see if it makes sense to me. I guess I thought only the one skill you set up to go during downtime would finish...hmmm...(puts on thinking cap to head to link)...
Posted 21 months ago by RM Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ striatic I set up Mining III
@glum pudding Yes the queue stops once the game is closed. Only the skill you are learning at the time of closing continues to learn :)
I love to cook and do, but once you have enough currents to comfortable buy food, it seems pointless other than just for the fun of it.:)
Posted 21 months ago by Misha Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The game was crashing in my browser for the last 20 minutes of the test, so I was too busy trying to get back in game to start a new skill. Would've been Animal Kinship VI though!
Posted 21 months ago by Leviathan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Transcendental Radiation, cause it was the longest one that I was able to do. Besides it just sounds so......groovy.....
Posted 21 months ago by Zev Bellringer Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "The queue stops once the game closes, though, doesn't it?"

yes, but it is still very useful for avoiding dead learning time wile away from the game when the game is open.
Posted 21 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Aha, aha, re: the queue. Good point, and then if actually wanted to sleep, I could lol
