  • If I'm gonna lose, at least it was to my friend that inspired me to snap my runner-up pic.  Congrats, Fyo!

  • hmm, maybe there should be a tower contest and a separate house contest.
Or a theme? I didn't get the choice for the winner. The RoboYeti snap, i thought was really cute. oh well. Grats to the winner, in any case. :)

  • I'm with you kepi. The judging has been very bizarre and seemingly not related to the categories. I of course appreciate the credits, the nod and all of the congrats, but I have been baffled by almost all of the results thus far (including this one). I really cannot get any feel for the judging in the least so I don't know how to suggest that it improve other than at least maybe the categories be applied a little better (housing actually be of original/cool house deco, etc.) and that all winning snaps are obviously special in some way that sets them apart from the hundreds of snaps published every day. Just my two cents.

  • I agree with being baffled by the winners. I do not mean that to take away from your win, Fyodor. It was a great snap... very funny. As that, apparently, is what they were looking for, it was a well deserved win :)

I misunderstood. I thought the contest was about housing customization ("The theme this week is housing.  You've spent hours of time customizing your house, please share it with us."), not about staging a funny. I took TinySpeck at their word and did not submit my more humorous snaps and snap ideas, but instead submitted two showcases of my customization. Whether they were good enough to win or not, I don't know. But I do feel like I entered the wrong contest.

*runs off to make some cheese to eat*... it goes so well with whine

  • hahaha!  loserz!

  • hahaha! seriously?!

I wouldn't have said anything if someone else (who just happened to be the winner... such a loser!) hadn't mentioned the same oddness I was sensing about it all. I recognized (and acknowledged) the potential whine in my post, but I do think there's a point in it besides being a sore loser.

It's a silly internet contest. Not that big a deal to me. I'm really not crying into my butterfly milk over this. But if a few of us are sensing the disconnect between the contest "category" and the winners, perhaps TS should know.

  • I agree, Vera.  I thought the winning snap was hilarious!  I just wish we knew they were aiming for funny snaps in this contest, so I could have tailored my entry accordingly.  ;)

Congrats to both winners, though, you guys were genuinely hilarious.  :D

  • Completely agree Vera. I just think the snaps chosen should at least have some merit in the category they win in, or it could be made more clear that the categories are just there to narrow the number of submissions and merit in the given category doesn't have much weight. No one has to worry about hurting my feelings so perfect opportunity to express an opinion.

  • I am guessing they don't want to say specifically what they are looking for because they don't know. The "judges" would like to be surprised with creativity and uniqueness instead of having all the submissions just playing to one thing.

Both winners were great! I love these!

  • I have to agree with FyodorD here in that there is a very big disconnect between the contest name/description, and the winning selections.

The contest thread says "May the best house win!", not "May the funniest caption win!".

If you are going to have a contest with a theme, please reward the snaps that follow that theme. Otherwise, simply make it a "Best Snap" contest.

  • I cannot disagree with what has been said above! I think, when we have our "panel" (i.e., everyone who works at TS) review the finalists after they have been winnowed down, it is too tempting to vote for the ones that were the most novel/unexpected/gave the biggest laughs.

We'll be running more of these in the future and will refine the process before we do.

  • Grats to both, heheh.

  • maybe have standard sets of categories?  best in show, creative interpretation, rib-tickler, etc.

  • So I guess another question would be - if you didn't feel as though your snap fit within the guidelines of the contest, why did you submit it?

I thought both snaps were hilarious!  And still do.... but wondered why they were even entered under #myhouse.  #mytwocents  :)

  • My snap 'fit within the guidelines of the contest' or it wouldn't have won and I wouldn't have entered. My confusion was around why really strong standouts that are more tightly related to the theme aren't taking home the win. It's fine for the rules to be as generic as 'taken in a house or tower', but as Joe Blow said above, if they say 'May the best house win' then an original/awesome house design should win. Straight forward enough. I think it makes more sense for strong snaps that are more tightly married to the theme of the week to win as opposed to a funny snap within the loose guidelines but not focused on the theme. But it sounds like Stoot's on it so we're all good.

  • I know the matter is resolved - but I just wanted to support Fyodor here too - I agree with all that has been said.

I for one entered with high hopes (silly in retrospect because high hopes are bound to come with a fall) because I followed the theme so tightly - but really at the end of the day maybe I am just drinking bitter coffee with a side of jealous brioche.

  • Thanks for chiming in stoot. I seriously love the snaps contest and would love to see them continue (even if the categories and winners are, occasionally, baffling). I think katlazam's idea is a great one that would not only allow a bit more freedom for the snap arteeeests but also for you guys in judging. And, bonus, it'll let you showcase a few more snaps which just makes everyone happy.

I can't speak for everyone (or anyone else for that matter), but I think the 500c prize is quite generous. I don't think anyone would bat an eye if it were distributed between a few winners. (esp since more winners means a greater chance of winning at some point). Maybe 200 for a best in show and 100 each for 3 others?

If this is going to be a regular thing (and while I'm babbling here), I'd also suggest you highlight the current contest (even if it's just a link to the forum post) and/or the previous contest's winners on the snaps page. From behind the curtain, it's also a decent way to buy y'all time between contests.
