7/24th End of Beta Party

I have no idea whose idea it was to have the end of test party in such a difficult location. In my opinion, to build community requres open access, and to me this felt more like an invitation event, or who-you-know-gets-you-in type of gathering. Limited access does not bring Glitchens together, rather it feels more like a clique-event rather than a worldwide affair.

Glitch community events needs to be open and accessible to everyone; I should not have to use a summons from other players, or a KEY, or any barrier to open access,  ie. I should be able to directly teleport or mark-the-map to get to the party location.

See ya next test.  :)

Now before you flame me, this isn't personal - I congratule those who organized and worked on the end-test party. I just want to make my feeling known that the end of test parties are for everyone and should be easily accesible, and free of having to coordinate with others to enjoy the fun

  • The lag killed me at the end (Chrome ended up freezing up!), but besides that, it was great :)

  • That "Blob" or "Ball" was contributed by staff :) It had some sanction. @Stoot Barfield was there when we were setting up (he was amazed at the theft going on even then!). I had to run out for over an hour to get more stuff so I didn't get back until after the official start.
@stoot suggested something about teleport scripts I'm going to mess with some (yes, more of my artwork :D ) but my plate is already pretty full at the moment.

  • This is why we need Group halls,I dont do partys, too many people ,but went early there and unloaded all the food and booze I did not want flowers ,meats, milk and anything I had that was overloaded in inventory for everyone,Was just a gas the place was full of goodies when I left.I would love to see Group halls set up in various locations for certain day partys as after reset we shall be on all the time. Like if you live in a location the invites would be at your door.can`t wait for that kind of party, not 100 folks clammering over everyones head and some complaining because one person took everything.I mean if you lay it down it should be picked up by all.

  • I've previously avoided the in home and street parties due to the negative feedback I've read of here in the forums. So this one seemed perfect to me when I read the note. So this was my first EoTW party and it was a great location! Plus did some Purple & Ticket distribution of my own. Got dumped out of a few races (thanks, Chrome!...grrr) but overall, a super fun time! Thanks to the party organizers for all your hard work. Thanks for summoning me, Millie! And awesome conga line, Hburger! :)

And special thanks to everyone who hugged me as they ran past my levitating Glitchen on level 2 of Vicars Peak! That was unexpected, made me laugh and shows what a fun community we have!

Looking forward to the next one!

  • This party seemed well populated, but I have to agree with the sentiment of the OP.   Perhaps there's a way for locked doors to be unlocked during party hours, so we wouldn't have to worry about transportation.  It's lovely of individuals to spend their time shuttling people back and forth, but those individuals would probably have a much better time if they were actually at the party, rather than waiting outside.

I did attend, but I didn't see the blob mentioned above.  Does anyone have a screenshot of it?  What did it do?  I've often thought it would be fun to bat a ball around above our heads at parties, the way people do at concerts.

  • It was supposed to be bat-able like you just described, glum. bat-able by touching it. I'll go look for the screenshot...

    here's one: http://i.imgur.com/01Z9u.png

I took neither of these. Credit to Varaeth and Hburger since I can't remember who took it >.< sorry guys!

  • I couldn't make it this time, but I attended the previous EoTW party. I just went to the door, quite sure about finding people willing to help me in. I got into the party in no time.

Glitch being a game, I find it especially adequate that it takes a little bit of effort, or thinking, or asking the community, to participate.

I'm all for parties in difficult places.

And I'm sure there will be something to substitute these great moments after Glitch launches. There are way too many creative people here not to!

  • I liked the location of it, regular streets are usually boring this one had a cool layout.

  • Ooooh!  Thanks, Millie, HBurger, and Varaeth!  I'm sorry that I missed it, but SO, SO HAPPY that it exists!  Eleventy billion exclamation points!  Toys are good!

  • Besides the two separate flash crashes while at the party - it was fun.  I'd like to thank whoever it was that answered my request in Global chat to send me a summons.. next thing I knew *poof* there I was!  The great part of the party being held there is that it was a new place for me although I know I was there back in March...  so another location marked off my list :)

  • not sure if it has been done but a subway party could be fun.  Red party vs Blue party.
Posted 17 months ago by Artilect Subscriber! | Permalink
  • A subway party would have to be in a subway station; the subway cars are instanced and can only hold up to 10(?) people at a time.
Posted 17 months ago by Millie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I like the subway party idea. Are the subway trains instanced? If I'm travelling and somebody takes the train in the same station I'm momentarily in, do they get into the same wagon?

ETA: Millie was answering my question at the same time I was making it.

  • being able to go from one subway train car to the next would be fun to expand it out a bit
Posted 17 months ago by Artilect Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1000 for the devs making the subway cars hold more people for a party! I'd love to see 125 Glitchen pole dancing on a subway train.  :)

  • Are the subways still instanced?

I got on a car today that had a pig on it!  That surprised me, since I thought the train was instanced.  I rode around with the pig for a while, trying to figure out what to do with his sad, whiny self ("it's so boring here'") since I had no bait, then someone got on my train at one of the stops.  They ended up taking the pig with them.

So, that made me question whether they are still instanced or not. If not, it'd be cool to try a party on them!

  • I thought it was a great party, had no problem getting in. I went to location early in the day and found a key, also at the door there was plenty of help for others to get in. My big problem with EOTW parties is my freezing up, but I still enjoy each and every one of them.

  • Ooh, interesting, zee :) I guess we'll have to ask the devs!

  • Laurali was patient, committed, personal and Awesome! She not only found us and got us all IN (initially), but when I (and others) got adventurous and left the party (oops), we were completely lost and she came back out  to round us all up and take us back inside!  It was very exciting and felt like Life should be - being patient and helping others... She's my Glitch Hero of The Day! :D

  • "those individuals would probably have a much better time if they were actually at the party, rather than waiting outside."

i can say with a high degree of confidence that shuttling people in and out of a restricted area is one of the most fun things that can be done in glitch.

  • +1 to sheepy and others.

meherman, it seemed like you were determined to find a way NOT to have fun and "protest". that is your choice. i saw more than one person offer to summon you to the party directly. that means you didn't even have to walk anywhere, you'd just show up in the middle of the party as soon as someone could teleport you.

i was personally at the door asking people to follow me in and then i wrote a bunch of scripts, climbed back out and dropped more all over the floor in front of the entrance.

if i were still a noobie, i'd be much more delighted to be shown this neat secret place and included in the party (and maybe getting to experience something i had not before like keys or being summoned or tp scripts), than just randomly walking onto a street filled with lag and tons of people.

laurali (and others) did a great job. if you did not want to participate, that's fine. perhaps you can organize the next party and do it however you find appropriate.

  • I feel I should point out that Meherman isn't making this about HIM not being able to get into the party. He clearly stated concern that not everyone had equal access to the area in which the party was held. There is good reason and intent for this concern, but as many people have stated here, it would be extremely unlikely for anybody not to be able to attend.

And to hop on what Mileena is saying, I do think that multiple parties may be appropriate to satisfy everyone's needs and concerns.

  • This has been my first EOG party, and can I just recommend we still do this when the game is officially launched? We can just pretend the world is about to end....

This was the most fun I've had online in a good long while, and I have to agree that it being in a locked street made it more adventurous. I can't get over how well organized and planned everything was, so kudos to Laurali especially, as well as everyone else who made it such a success! I can't wait for the next one.

Also, I had no idea how or where the party was until I decided that I wanted to attend (I kept one of the invites that I found on the streets), and just opened up Global chat and there were directions! I didn't even have to ask. I'm loving the community that I'm seeing and becoming a part of more and more each day. This has been the peak of my Glitch life thus far.

  • I live in Italy and can't attend the parties becasue the game always closes too late for me. Laurali on the other hand, decided to 'open' early, and make a pre-party. It was wonderful, even though I knew there wasn't going to be all the real fun for quite a few hours. I found the notes while exploring, checked on Global and went to the door where in a few minutes I got summoned in. And this was 5 hours before end of game! There were already food and drinks all over and quite a lot of people. I stayed for a while, introduced some Glitchens to the purple flowers, then before leaving dropped as much food drinks and flowers as I could for whoever came later.
The idea of the closed area for me was totally a winner. The fun of searching for the place  - the cooperation to get people in, making new friends in the process - it was nearly as much a party outside waiting as inside!
Thanks Laurali and all those who were there early, I had a great time!

  • Yup usually those test close parties are at 3am for me. Same for other European folks. Well not so big deal.

Nice all of you have fun. See you at next test. :)

  • I really wish there were a way that the shut downs could work at the same time for everyone.  Perhaps multiple parties could include different times zones, so that those people that need to go to sleep early can still attend an end of world party!  I know I personally would hate to always miss out on the fun because of my time zone, and there can never be too many parties.

Like I said earlier, I understand what MeherMan is saying, but I just randomly stumbled on Vicar's Peak while collecting eggs and as soon as I got inside I thought it was the coolest place ever.  Not only does it spawn its own items (I got a bunch of bananas and some awesome stew within 5 minutes of entering) but it is in a locked room so that discourages "thievery".  I had no idea it was not searchable on the map, and I thought it was more like Ajaya Bliss, where it showed up on the map and people could easily teleport themselves in and out.

It wasn't until I had spoken with several people that I realized this place is not a well known area, and that's when I decided to send out/leave out a bunch of invitations to make sure EVERYONE knew about it.  I literally spent 75% of my time this test making/distributing invitations because I wanted everyone to feel like they were either personally invited by receiving one in the mail, or at least KNOW there was a party.  I also spent another 20% of my time answer IM's about where Vicar Peak is, and how people will get in, etc.

After it is all said and done, I made nearly 50 new friends who I wouldn't have known if I didn't go through this whole process.  Also, I think that the idea of sharing a really cool "secret" area of the game with all the Glitches (especially the more noob players who aren't as aware of all the secrets this game has to hold...I say noob lovingly we are all noobs at one point).  Also, just to make sure a lot of players I didn't know felt included, I tried to make "awards" for certain things.  This didn't go over as well as I expected, because it was a big clusterfuck of people and several times the "winners" dcd and never came back.  But overall, several lower level characters got 16 slot bags full of treats for having some very creative Glitches!

This slightly reminded me of Harry Potter and all the "secrets" in Hogwarts Castle.  In particular The Room of Requirement.  It's a secret room that doesn't show up on the map but randomly spawns useful items for those who enter it.  I didn't think of it as exclusive, more like sharing a really cool secret with as many people as I could.

tl;dr I just wanted to explain my motives cause the last thing I wanted was to be exclusive to anyone!
