Mining troubles (UPDATED POST-TEST)

So here's my issue...

I'm trying to build up some currants. So I'm mining everywhere I can. The problem is, every time I make anything mining, I have to spend it all again just to get food+drink to keep mining! What the heck?

Is there a more efficient food>drink>currants ratio I'm just not understanding?

  • Find/buy/make some Earthshakers - means you can mine without expending energy. One regularly respawns in Oktyabra

  • You should try and find some Earthshakers (somewhere high up in Uralia you can find them, or buy them from Helga in West Spice for 120 currants) - they grant Impervious Miner which keeps your energy stable for three minutes while you're mining.

  • what kind of food are you buying?

if you are buying overpriced food at auction, that would do it.

but buying chili from the vendor in level 2 east in the caverns will give you 1 e per c and you'll make a healthy profit unless you are really doing something wrong.

  • On your skill tree, go for the mining skill levels too. You'll be a more energy efficient miner, and have a greater chance of bonuses.

  • I like this Earthshakers idea, lol. But yeah, usually when I buy food from a vendor I get plenty of energy and still make a ton of profit mining... I usually just stock up on corn and carrots.

Also, you can go to the community gardens and see what people have left behind! :D

  • Earthshakers are now available at your local street spirit. For all your mining and refining needs, visit the Ilmenskie cavern mining vendor.

  • So Earthshakers are now at all tool vendors? Because, if so, I'd like to buy them from a vendor outside of Ilmenskie, since things are more expensive there.

  • The mining vendors, in the mines themselves, sell a few drinks and tools relevant to mining... but I don't think they're available at all vendors now - it's a new kind of vendor.

TKT - you might consider taking some time outside the mines and gathering some food. If all you are doing is mining and then selling the gems/music to go buy food... and you're breaking even... then it seems the developers have hit an even balance.

  • You can also do no-no. That's how I get rich.

  • That was my problem Sweet Pea, in my blind mining frenzy I didn't realize that I was pretty much spending all the mining money on food to sustain me while mining, and mostly from auctions. I took striatic's advice and bought some chilli, as well as buying a few Earthshakers from a Mining vendor in the Deeps. Which got me pretty much back up to where I was at the end of the last test (still only ₡1,891). But better than taking a loss I guess. How do you guys make/build up good money?

Also, does anyone happen to know what the energy/mood savings bonus is with Mining IV?

  • Cupcake, what's no-no?

Also, Tyler, I use a Meditation Orb and have upgraded my meditation skills to boost energy. On top of that, I have 4 or 5 emblems that I haven't spent yet and I get about 20 to 30 energy from each one every game day.

  • the earthshakers are stupid expensive at the mining vendor - i think 400 or 500c!  only 120 at helga in west spice.

    what's your mining skill level?

  • @delicious - during the test I was learning M3, so I only had M2. Right this minute I'm learning M4. Where is West Spice?

@Cerulean - I had no idea the emblems did that! I have focused meditation too, but I usually max out pretty fast.

  • M4 will help a lot.  West Spice is in Ix!  It's only a couple of streets away from the caves actually.

  • @delicious - wow, must have missed that. And all it takes is a little effort to save hundreds of currants!

  • I use meditation orb, quoins, and earthshakers.  On top of that, I nibble every pig I pass.  With one of the animal kinship skills you will get 2 pieces of meat per nibble.  It costs 6 energy to pet/nibble and you get 20 energy from the meat.  Thats +14 energy per pig!  It's easy to get meat as you run from place to place and encounter tons of pigs.  I also grow lots of crops and stock up on cabbage to eat.  These are free ways to keep energy up while mining.

  • It also helps to learn a bit of cooking -- the results are frequently much better than the inputs.

  • To follow what Laurali said, the higher the AK level, the better chances you have of getting bonus meat, too. At AK III or IV I tend to get about 8 meats from every 10th pig I nibble, and it really adds up!

  • Also, yeah, each emblem gives an energy, mood and xp boost once per day as long as you caress, contemplate and, uh, I forgot what the 3rd action is called. But you have to select these action's from each emblem's item menu in order to get the bonuses (as opposed to the bonuses being automatic).
Posted 19 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Fill your mood first, by choosing "c" from each emblem's menu.  You'll get +25 mood.  Once your mood is full, you'll get +36 XP from "n" and +20 energy from "o."  (I think the words are caress, contemplate, and consider.)  In general, you have to have a full or nearly-full mood meter (winking grinning green face) to get maximum XP from your actions.

No-no powder allows you to stop eating and not lose energy for a span of ten minutes.  Then you go into no-no crash phase, during which you must sniff more powder.  If you don't, you end up in hell.  It's easy to make after you've mined and crushed a few rocks, and learned some alchemy skills.  The downside is that you only get a quarter (I think it's still a quarter, but it's been a long time since I've used no-no) of the XP you'd normally receive for whatever you're doing.
