How about a better Feature Feedback / Suggestion platform?

In its current state suggesting new features or changes on glitch is very cluttered, stitched together and unorganized.

To put it into an analogical form,  its like throwing your bottle (ideas) into a sea of bottles (ideas forum) and pray it gets the attention of the devs/community. Looking through the sea of unsorted bottles is a very inefficient way to find good or popular ideas from the community.

Now the question is how do we fix this clunky system?

How about instead of forum posts with replies,  Idea or suggestion posts with votes and optional comments?
Also a sorting function to find the newest or the most popular ideas...

A good example of such system would be Playstation's Share.Blog Community site...

I would suggest Customer-Company platform such as GetSatisfaction

Edit:

Upon further research... Tinyspeak started a community as a test on the GetSatisfaction platform...

It would the be the perfect solution to providing feedback to customers....

DISCLAIMER: I'm not an employee nor advertiser of GetSatisfaction, I'm only offering recommendations based on personal experience with companies and organizations that have used this platform to connect with their users. Frustration of lack of connection with the developers and community (I know they can't reply to every single response, but its hard to see any community-inspired changes or additions)

  • TS already lets us vote on game issues that they want to hear our opinions on.  They designed a voting system into the site from the beginning.

Here's an explanation from a different site where Glitch staff members were subjected to similar complaints.

We get lots of good ideas in the [ideas forum]. Most of them are ones that have been previously thought of by staff and exist on our "Giant List Of Future Features". Some are completely new and make us wonder why we'd never thought of them before.

Many of the ideas on that list are years old. They're great ideas, but they're either more complicated to implement than our members might think, or they're relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of things, or their time just hasn't come.

Staff already read these forums.  They already have a long list of ideas that they want to implement.  They already have a mechanism for getting customer input when they need it.  What, exactly, would your suggestion do to improve the current system?

  • Yes, they have voting system for ideas that are already set in motion by developers.

How about voting on ideas that users are presenting to the developers...

My main issue with the current system is that it doesn't allow you to just say hey this is important too... I agree (+1)!

Instead you have to reply with a +1 and anyone who wants to actually comment or put constructive input on the idea gets jammed in the middle of all the 1+

It reeks of inefficiency on both sides, the users can't identify and effectively vote or voice their opinion on hot and popular ideas and developers have no clear picture on what the are the most wanted things the community really wants (improvement or feature-wise)

  • Kamer, it makes absolutely no difference how many people want something.

If an idea is too complicated to implement, or relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of things, or the time just isn't right, then it doesn't matter how many people comment or vote, it won't happen until the time is right, or all the more important things have been implemented.

If it's simple to implement, and makes the game a lot better, it still doesn't matter how many people comment or vote.  A really great idea that is simple to implement and makes the game a whole lot better may happen even if only one or two people comment.

Developers don't need any clearer idea of what the most wanted things are.  They already have their Huge List Of Things To Be Added To The Game.  And you can be sure that the developers have prioritized their list based on criteria that are important to the business success of this company.

When they want user input, they ask for it.  When they want to hear good ideas, they give us a forum to post them.  Beyond that, users don't have any inherent influence on how this game is designed.  The Tiny Speck investors and employees are the ones who set the priorities.

  • *cough*
last I checked, this was the ideas forum, not the "let's discuss why other people's ideas don't measure up to our standards" forum. If you hate an idea in here, there is no reason why you have to prattle on for paragraphs about how you disagree with it and try to make the poster feel somehow inferior for coming up with the idea in the first place.
    *cough*

    More ideas! :D

  • Windborn is just telling poor Kramer not to waste his time.

I did think about this idea earlier, with something like Ubuntu Brainstorm, I guess I just like the upvote feature in a way.

  • I don't hate the idea.

But Kramer seems to have an incomplete view  of how game development works. Somehow, s/he believes that the goal on both sides is to be "more efficient", and not "more creative".  ( It reeks of inefficiency on both sides, )

S/He also seems to believe that developers are incapable of   figuring out what the community wants  using the system that the developers themselves devised. (developers have no clear picture on what the are the most wanted things the community really wants (improvement or feature-wise).   and how do we fix this clunky system).

I'm simply pointing out that the developers already have a system in place that works for them.  And also pointing out that player requests are not the only (or even highest) priority for choosing what next to implement.
    .
There are flaws in this idea.  The Ideas Forum is a place to post new ideas and for the community to discuss those ideas.  Pointing out flaws is a reasonable activity in the comments on an idea.  Perhaps the OP can revise their idea into something that would actually work within the game they are playing.

Like:  give each player voting shares in the corporation, so that as stockholders they can influence the business decisions of the company.

its hard to see any community-inspired changes or additions

I'd suggest that the OP look through all the closed threads in the Ideas forum and in General, and make a count of the numerous ideas that have already been implemented based on player feedback and suggestions.

  • I am aware of process of game development especially around online based community driven platforms... and it does make a difference how many people want something... you want to please the most people possible, and changing or adding something based on feedback from a single person is a terrible system, something that the community would react negatively sooner or later...

But it seems whatever I say won't please you, you have your opinion of the current system (which is broken)

I have to look for locked threads? you are telling me I have to wade through pages and pages of forum discussions looking for locked threads? and hoping its not some old event discussion?

Their are numerous examples of good feedback and suggestion systems on the web, glitch's current "system" is not one of them....

I will thank you for keeping my idea bumped as I see others having opinions of the current system similar to mine...

The system I'm suggesting would eliminate the need for you to make such nonconstructive comments.... In which you could just vote down the idea and move on with your life.
