Removing Hive - removes all the resource created?

I had a hive at the very end of my backyard and a large swarm of attendant fireflies. I wanted to move the hive closer to my house, using wotd I thought would be the easiest way to accomplish this, however when I applied it I not only lost the hive but every single firefly. I don't understand the logic of this, removing say a barnacle pod would not take from you every single barnacle it had produced in its lifetime only the few recent ones growing on the pod at the time, if there were any, so why does removing a hive take every firefly and not just a few recently hatched ones? This wasnt the case previously and there is no warning that you will lose every firefly if you remove the hive. Had I know I could have perhaps saved them by building the new hive before destroying the old one. I am now one very sad Glitch.

  • Did it remove the fireflies from the jars you had captured them in?

  • No Winborn, I did not keep them in jars I released them to build the swarm, but that it seems allowed them to be wiped when the hive was removed.

  • Killing a tree removes all the fruit (bubbles gas beans spice) that is on it.

If their home is gone, why would the firefly swarm stick around?

  • The fireflies were not all from the hive, many I released to build up the swarm. That said compared with other resources 1f you harvest your bubble tree then drop the bubbles beside the tree or any place in your back yard the bubbles you have dropped do not vanish when the tree is depleted, therefore why should the fireflies vanish when the hive is lost. You already lose any fireflies within the hive.

  • I would guess that the coding of the game would not allow you to keep fireflies in an area with no swarm. There are no fireflies "within the hive," the hive is the swarm, and without it there's nothing to tell the game that fireflies should exist in that area. Fireflies aren't items like bubbles or barnacles, they are something completely different. You might notice that you can't just release fireflies anywhere, like you can drop items. That's because they require a swarm object to exist in, and when you remove the hive, you remove the game's knowledge of your swarm. Think about it, though - if your firefly swarm could exist without keeping hives in your yard, why keep a hive at all? Then everybody could have large firefly swarms without the trade-off of having yard spaces filled by hives.

  • I just removed one of three hives on my street and all of the fireflies disappeared from the other two hives too. They regenerated, though.
