  • I wouldn't be surprised if keys were taken off the list of things that can be auctioned.

  • That is primarily because Ajaya keys(and others too) spawn at predefined places and some players constantly camp this places. Every time i go in Illmenskie deeps i see people at same 2 places staying there - AFK or dunno. One of the places i even do not see how to reach - it is in lower right corner of the street below ground level.

If keys spawn at random places at random time periods then it will be harder to camp them and more people will have chance to get them.

  • Congratulations to EastIndiaTradingCo! Nice work!
Personally I'd find standing there waiting for the respawn to be mindnumbingly boring, but I guess if you know the times, it must be easier :)
I'd rather walk around and do stuff in game and see more of the world than Gori Blear, but that's the great thing about Glitch, whichever path you go down, you should be able to make a good living and I guess the "waiting for the key to spawn" path is a good one too :)

  • I saw him get into a tiff with a couple people yesterday. I had heard about these keys and wanted to see what it was about... it was a pretty hostile environment and I wanted nothing do with it to be honest. I guess no key for me, or the chance to see what this area of game play is like.

  • A big part of this game is a player-driven economy. A level 6 player having over 100k isn't inherently a bad thing unless they're taking advantage of an exploit. Having the intelligence and cunning to wait on keys and auction them at a price that other players will pay simply means that he/she has found a successful strategy.

There are other issues raised by this, but being outraged that a level 6 player has a lot of money leaves a pretty lousy taste in my mouth.

The Ajaya Bliss subject is itself a complex one, and will likely be adjusted in the future. However, that's not the primary issue raised here, and that's what bothers me.

  • There is also someone who's making a living apparently by collecting and selling green and white circle keys. I went looking for one at Rookthills Lay and saw him camping out there. Looked in the auction and what did I see? At least 19 green and white circle keys being sold by the same person for 950 currants.

To be fair I have to admit that I went back later when he wasn't present and managed to get a key.

  • Oh, hello Crowdedsky.

You will probably be seeing me more if you want a key. For I have made it my goal, as long as I'm awake, to control that market. I love those keys, and all those keys shall be mine. While other keys helped me get off the ground, these in particular I want to keep my finger on.

  • So that Glitch API shares information about me while I don't even know it or agree to it?

I only want information that is now visible (with an api) on my profile page to be visible for others.
So please, I hope I have to agree to all that data being collected before it can be used on me...

And what is the point of having lots of cash? Save it for when you retire?
Posted 14 months ago by Miriamele Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm more surprised people are willing to pay that much just to get into Ajaya Bliss.
Posted 14 months ago by gamecharacter Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Miriamele, it's not about how much cash you have, but how much cash can you get. The pursuit of getting as much cash as you can is the only interest I have in making more money. I know once you buy a house, and have some spare thousands, you're set for a long time. But sometimes you want to buy maybe 2 houses, or don't feel like farming for a week, and just buy the materials outright instead of using your time.

Money in the game has no real purpose other than to buy a house, buy food / drinks, or to buy things from the AH. That's about it. But hey, some people like to play the market over playing the game. Is that so wrong?

  • It wasn't an issue until the devs removed the ability to teleport behind locked doors like bliss. Time for keys to be bound, in other words not givable. And you can't get another one if you are holding one.
Posted 14 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The best thing to do would simply be to decrease the amount of time it takes for that particular key to spawn. It would at least increase the supply of the key and bring down the price of it. Something like 10 minutes like most of the other keys would be nice.

  • I don't think they need to be bound to the person that picks it up. Maybe not auctionable, but not bound. Nor do I agree with only being able to have one in your inventory. Maybe a cap of like 3 or so though.

  • "Hidden" respawns do not work in the age of game FAQs. Probably want the key to randomly respawn in a variety of locations.  Or rethink the whole key thing..!

  • I'd be willing to bet that EastIndiaTradingCo is an alternate account this person uses to just sit around waiting for keys to respawn while he/she actually has fun and plays the game with a different account at the same time in a different browser (or even on a different computer). He/she could then mail the bounty to his/her main avatar at any time.

  • Amassing a huge number of currants is as valid a goal as any other in the game. Granted, it's one that's rather easily achieved and isn't apt to lead anywhere interesting on its own, but if that's what floats your boat, then fine! If you're getting there by monopolizing the key market, well, that's your decision to make. It isn't likely to make you any friends, which is too bad since that's (IMO) a great part of Glitch, but it's not illegal gameplay or anything.
Posted 14 months ago by Tally Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The keys are respawning quicker, like 14 mins. Being givable doesn't stop the selling. They'll jut figure out a side market way to do it.

And only being able to hold one at time makes you plan ahead. I have one, and am in the process of storing up food for a bliss run. Planning ahead so I have time to fill all my bags with ore before I leave. :)

  • When I was a kid we used to sing a song called "There was an old woman who swallowed a fly ...." The point of the song was that she kept swallowing larger and more ridiculous things to get rid of the problem caused by the last thing she swallowed. The song ends with her swallowing " ... a horse. She died, of course."

I think this nerf in particular is a good example of the problem. Ajaya Bliss was magic. It's still pretty good, or it was this morning. But the devs changed the rules to stop people grinding and missing out on the rest of Glitch. As a result of the rule change ... people are grinding and missing out on the rest of Glitch. Except that before it was a group operation; now it's a competitive scramble. Before everybody won; now most people lose out.

  • So there are players on here that spend time snooping into the goings on of other players?  Checking their bank accounts and things like that?
And then...posting it in the forum for all to see...?

I find that more disturbing than hoarding keys.  By far.

  • Warning. Long post. If you don't want to read it, that's fine. But don't skim it and try to judge it without reading the whole thing. Cool!

Please understand that while my tone in this post is a little more on the serious side, I mean no weird or otherwise unpleasant feelings towards anyone. We're all in this thing together. :)

I think the whole issue honestly just needs to be left alone.

All of the threads about Ajaya Bliss on this forum always go the same way. This person did this, and I want this, and money money money, and this is unfair, and why did you take this away from us. It has become a whole community in and of itself. And somewhere along the line, a huge portion of the Glitch population has become a grinding, greedy, and self-serving mass of indignant aggressors. There is so much hostility in this area of the game that it has driven many people out of the Deeps, out of the Caverns, and even some new and long time users out of the game. We are angrily divided in our opinion of this single street in this single region out of the over one thousand three hundred different locations in this game. This is absolutely ridiculous. We can't let something about a SINGLE STREET break us apart and turn us against each other. I have three things to say about this, and I hope that it might make some feel a little bit better.

    1. Mining is an absolutely fantastic way to make currants. It is undoubtedly the fastest by leaps and bounds. It's really fun to make lots of money in a short time, and that's a good path to choose if you like competition, which honestly is a lacking area in this game****, especially for most MMO regulars who thrive on victories. The thrill of being one of the few who can afford anything in the game is exhilarating. But there are so many more places to mine than Ajaya Bliss. In fact, considering the wait for spawn times (both keys and for the actual rocks), the huge masses of people mining at once (less chunks and gems for everyone), and the insane demand that the keys are now creating, it is less expensive, less time consuming, and more advantageous to mine just about anywhere else in the world.

You can form a team to take on the rest of the Deeps, the Caverns, the Heights, and even new rock-filled regions like Pollokoo. And you don't have to mine just the Sparkly rocks. They're so coveted that often times they're gone within instants. So instead of wasting your time waiting around and overcrowding places the Sparklies spawn, just mine the other ones. The difference between the worth of one Sparkly chunk and one Beryl chunk is literally 2 currants. You can find all of the Beryl or Dullite or even Metal rocks that are closest to you. And they all give gems, which is where most of your money will come from anyway.

    2. People will calm back down. There are people in this game who will be opportunistic. They will camp at the spawn points and ransom off the keys they grab to the highest bidder. The keys that are being sold for tens of thousand of currants are so absurd they literally make me laugh out loud. Why would anyone look at an auction like that and with a sound logical mind actually buy it? You can't make that back in Ajaya without camping for more keys again (or buying them), and you're just breaking even and feeding into a cycle at that point.

But it won't always be like this. The change is new, it's frustrating compared to the ease it took to do all of this before, and people are sort of out of their minds and adopting the mentality of mobs. And once people realize that there are other, less time-wasting options for mining (and even moneymaking in general), the market for keymongering will bust. Things will even out, and we will learn to live comfortably again.

    3. The developers are not your slaves. They are here to create the most engaging and fun gaming experience possible, with the least amount of unfair advantages possible. But they don't owe you anything. They haven't been sitting around conspiring about how to screw you over the hardest. The ease of making a stupidly large amount of money mining in Ajaya was unfair to every other part of the game, and ultimately just leads to disappointment and disinterest with the game down the road. What happens when you have 200,000 currants? Where do you go from there? If you've spent 18 hours doing nothing but mining mining mining and selling selling selling and you are the richest player in the world within 2 days, what incentive do you have to play any other part of the game? None. You're done. You're bored.

All of the changes that are being made are to prevent one part of the game from being too profitable, or too grindy, or too unfair to other players who have no means to do what you're doing. It's all for the ultimate happiness of everyone. And if greed, hostility, anger, and indignation is all you have to give back to this game, then frankly, even though there is "no wrong way to play the game," you've managed the impossible. We don't need that. We're trying to sustain something that's fun and welcoming. And I hope everyone can get behind that. I love each and every player I've had a chance to talk to and engage with, and I think this game brings out the best in every single one of us.

So try not to freak out too much. Nothing is set in stone. Everything will change eventually. And the world doesn't need more anger than it's already got.

    :)

    /rant

**** I actually love the lack of competition globally throughout the game. It makes this game so much more fun for me compared to almost every other game I've ever played in my life. It allows me to relax, enjoy the time I spend in Ur, and set my own personal goals, which are a lot more fulfilling to me than required game-structured goals.

  • Why are some people so worried about how much money other players are making?

It's not like there is a limited amount of currents for everyone (like in real life).  You have the opportunity to make as much money as you like, regardless of what other people have.

And besides that...I have read in several posts about how easy it is to make money.  So none of this should be a problem, right?
This isn't a game where people are competing with each other, so what difference does it make if one person gets super-rich?  What advantage does this give to the rich player?

I'm really confused about what the problem is here.  If I'm missing something, please fill me in.  It's possible I'm missing the big picture, I suppose.

There are two spawn locations for this key.  This particular player can't be in two places at once, can he?  Also, does this player camp the key 24 hours a day 7 days a week?  I doubt it.

EDIT:  I was writing this while That Kid Tyler posted the previous message.  He said it far better than I did.  What is the big deal with mining that ONE street?  I have never been there and I make plenty of money from mining.  Why all the stress?
Well said, Tyler.  I agree with your post.

  • @We got dodgson - you know you can only own one house at a time, right?

It sounds kind of bizarre to me but I guess I'm glad you get your kicks off of currants, at least you're enjoying it. I personally couldn't imagine a more uninteresting way to spend my days, but if it's truly satisfying for you I guess that's what counts. Most probably your real life existence is filled with highly meaningful relationships and this is just a little bit of fun.
Posted 14 months ago by Lara Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Poppy, the player very likely has a 2nd account, so yes, he can be in two places at once.

One account just stands by the spawn point and grabs the keys as they regenerate.  The other account actually is playing the game in the meantime.
Posted 14 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh hello We Got Dodgson,

Lucky for me I already got my key!

While it is nice to see that the green and white circle key is getting some good loving from you, there may be others out there who want to love one also, and for less than 950c.

I do understand the allure of playing to amass currants, and I hope you're having fun. There are all kinds of ways to play. Maybe we could start a group dedicated to picking up and giving away keys for free. I suppose we'd have to have a different sleep/play/live schedule to be competitive with the other key collectors.
Posted 14 months ago by crowdedsky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @WindBorn:  Do you know this for a fact?  Or is this speculation?

And again...I ask...who cares?  How does this adversely affect your gaming experience?

Would it be so horrible if you rarely got to mine this street?

    EDIT:  (more to say)
Everyone always says that is no wrong way to play the game, and yet...I am seeing a lot of threads that are criticizing other players for how they play the game.
Posted 14 months ago by Poppy of Detwoit Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ditto to what Tyler said; let the Ajaya issue rest.  There are so many other great places to explore and find.  I made enough to buy a 50k house over the first weekend just from playing the game -- and I am quite positive I didn't do it in the most optimal way!

  • personally, I could care less how many currents any player has...I have been in AB and don't need/want to have a key...I don't want to be a part of 'group mining' - but, that's just me...in the other places I go to mine, when (inevitably) other players show up to 'help' me...eh...I just finish my rock and then move on...this game is large enough to allow all player types to enjoy in the way they want to - the exception I take is with someone camping out there in order to have the key each time it spawns...there are others that have not been in there and wish to go - anyone trying to get the completest badge must be able to go in there - some players may not wish to ask if someone has a key and can they follow, or pay astronomical amounts of currants  - with players staking out the spawn spot - players that haven't been or wish to go have no choice but to do so - this is equal to someone (squatter) forcing other players to play the game the way they (the squatters) want them to.

I don't know the solution to this problem, but, think one way would be to limit the amount of times you can pick a spawned item up - and if that means all spawned items - then it is yet another case of a few screwing it up for everyone else.
Posted 14 months ago by Firestone1960 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The larger issue of Ajaya Bliss and fair access to it is a completely valid one that is clearly being worked out as the devs change the dynamics of the game and access to that area, specifically.

Bickering over the pursuit of currants or the fairness/validity of a lower-level player (or any player for that matter) making a lot of currants is some seriously petty horseshit.

Rubbing it in people's faces that you've made a lot of money is equally petty and crappy.

It would be a shame if the legitimate issues raised by this thread were overwhelmed by the shitty ones called out prominently in the subject line and by a few other posters.
Posted 14 months ago by Xev Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree with the last two posters.
I do concede that it's unfair to other players to camp out and take multiple keys in a row, my beef was primarily with the petty complaints about other players having more money.

I would eventually like to complete that board, so I understand frustration with that aspect of the issue.  But I just think everyone will have to be patient about that.
Posted 14 months ago by Poppy of Detwoit Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It was somewhat frustrating to watch player X snatch up the AB key in front of me while at the same time having 3 listed for sale.  But if people want to spend their days camping keys, that's fine.  As long as there is no asymmetric information about key spawn times.

Does the wiki contain the most detailed information available about these key spawns?  I couldn't even figure out how to get to the tunnel place where one spawns.  Also, if these key campers are using third party scripts to auto-loot the key when it spawns, that would be quite discouraging.

Whatever.  Great game stoot.  Keep the key bandits in check!
Posted 14 months ago by Friend Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Friend: 3rd party scripts that auto-collect any item in game would, as far as I know, reasonably be considered an exploit.

    From the ToS:
    Cheating and Hacks:
    You agree not to:
    • modify the Service to change gameplay, including creating cheats and/or hacks or using third-party software to access files in the Service;

    • engage in using macros, auto-looting or robot play or any other behavior that allows you (or any character you are controlling) to automatically function or effect any action in the game with or without your presence;

    • obtain or attempt to access or otherwise obtain any materials or information through any means not intentionally made available or provided for through the Service; or

    • exploit errors in design, features which are not documented and/or bugs to gain access that would otherwise not be available or to obtain any competitive advantage.

So yes, the larger and more legitimate issue is access to areas, fair play and what is and is not acceptable behavior in-game.

The issue should NOT be whether or not a certain level player has accumulated wealth.
Posted 14 months ago by Xev Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It was inevitable that the key would be overpriced and camped once they removed the ability to set a teleport point inside AB. I just don't go there anymore. It's mechanics like this that bring real money trade (RMT) to MMOs and once the currant farmers arrive, it's maddening.
Posted 14 months ago by Tamashii Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I would encourage anyone who's really bugged by the key-hoarding to do what they can to mitigate it. Whenever you enter Ajaya, put a call out in Global a few minutes before and offer to let people follow you in. Got Teleportation V? Awesome. Why not hang out in there for a while and summon anyone who wants to come in?

If there are enough people willing to help out their fellow Glitchizens, the key market will collapse quickly enough, and the campers and hoarders will find a more profitable way to spend their time.
Posted 14 months ago by Tally Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Tally, teleporting into AB is no longer permitted. The Ajaya Bliss issue is one that is currently being worked on. I am confident that as problems arise with how people are able to enter it, so too will a new solution pop up. The devs are pretty on top of this stuff.

That some people figure out a way to take advantage in the short term, short of using shady tactics and abusive behavior, is pretty admirable as far as I'm concerned. It is not, however, sustainable.
Posted 14 months ago by Xev Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I believe it's just unfair that if a player wants to experience a certain portion of the game, they have to go through another player to do so.
Posted 14 months ago by MarcZed Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I know about the teleportation, Xev - that's why this whole issue came up. But I'm reasonably sure that I remember Stoot mentioning the other day that you could still summon people in. One or two good-hearted glitchizens willing to do that would take the wind out of the key market pretty quickly.

Edit: Yep, here: "You can also get someone who is already inside to summon you, so you don't have to wait for a key or follow someone else in."
Posted 14 months ago by Tally Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Issue with keys can be easy solved. One or more players can do same as players above. Just they will sell keys to their normal price. After some time people will stop to buy this overpriced keys.

I try to do same with some powders and it keeps them near stock prices, so other players can buy at normal price.
