Game Play Updates

Hello!

We have a few game play changes, so here you go!

You know the Prove Your Rook Fighting Mettle quest, where you smashed the Rook egg? It's been taken out temporarily, while we work out some game mechanics to make it play smoother later on. You'll still be able to finish it if it is in your quest log, but it won't be offered.

The Emotional Bear now has a new verb! 'Anthropomorphize'- you get a mood boost when giving the bear a hug. Awww, give the bear a hug! The boost is available once per game day. :)

We've changed base costs of (unimbued) Teleportation Scripts, from 50 to 5, because it was too easy to create them just for profit. The script now also takes 1 energy to make, and requires Paper and Quill, plus Teleportaion IV or V, and Penpersonship skills, of course.

Also- items are locked on the ground until you walk away from them. If you go offline, or move away from the item, the lock is removed, but until then someone can't pick that item up.

  • I think a small clarification is needed by the devs.

stoot barfield said: "The one I meant was the way items you drop are locked temporarily, so others cannot pick them up. They unlock when you move away or after 30 seconds have passed."

So is it when you move away or after 30 seconds or both? Yes, I am pedantic.

  • Thank you for the LOCK!!  I've been able to keep watch on my stuff and bag slots for the most part, but I've seen many newbies dropping lemons and spice all over the place!!  I feared for their well-being!!  :-D

  • Big thumbs up for ALL the latest updates!

@Laika : there are plenty of games that encourage, approve, and reward players for selfish, nasty, greedy, abusive and even murderous behaviour.

I don't play them because I don't like that kind of behaviour.  I play Glitch because it actively promotes "playing nice" which I like.  There are still players who don't play nice but at least the damage they can do to my enjoyment of the game is now a little more limited.

If that makes Glitch a "nanny state" well shucks just tuck me in and sing me a lullaby Nanny Glitch because I am loving it!

  • You guys forgot the most important one: ZOMBIES MASKS!!!

that's a dream becoming true :) thanks TS

  • oh and the gas mask is cool too!
Posted 15 months ago by Artilect Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, I was about 15 seconds away from buying the gas mask and running around asking Glitchen if they were my mummy. ;D

  • I keep thinking - we need to get a zombie army going. Say everyone in the ajaya mines or some other place gets zombied up. It'll be awesome

  • Only saw it mentioned once here, but many thanks for streamlining the hen squeezin.  It's far less tedious now.

  • Newbies still stealing, my crazy pickle was dropping beans and while I was in my sneezing fit beans were picked up and couldn't do a thing about it. Also my sister Violetflame lost a music box two days ago. Her inventory was full and as soon as it hit the ground it was picked up. Its seems as if there are some that are running around with stealing as their sole purpose. Of course this stuff is to be expected, but I plan on reporting this each time it happens with the hit and run type. They are going to get splanked silly.

  • if you sneeze em, people can steal em. I think that is the point of the pickle.
Posted 15 months ago by erik Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Easiest solution to your problem Ms Matilda is to not abuse your pickle in public! Do it at home. Or with an empty inventory. Or on a street with no other people on it.

  • I was loving the changes today when I realized I was losing red compounds because both bags were full of them.  I like to donate the extra 5000 to save wastage but that usually means a trip home to drop one bag off as otherwise I have to donate all 10000.

Today I dropped one bag at my feet and donated all the red from the other bag then picked up the dropped bag.

As I was donating I saw a glitch slowly moving closer and closer and closer to me and I am absolutely certain he was trying to grab my bag and run but the lock worked and it was safe at my feet!

I think he wanted to upset me by grabbing it and running but the lock meant he was the one to be upset when he couldn't carry out his nefarious plan!

The griefer griefed himself instead of me lol.  I love it!

  • This is all great to know! However, it seems that the many other updates that have been implemented incrementally, e.g. changes to recipes, plant removal from streets, were not mentioned. It's cool that you all are making strong efforts to improve the game, but changes sans acknowledgement is bound to cause strong displeasure amongst players. One understands that part of the joy of Glitch is discovering new things -- who doesn't enjoy figuring out just how to make salt! -- but when there is obvious effort made to announce some changes without a nod to still further edits to the game play being made, e.g. "along with some other changes", one cannot help but feel a bit miffed.

  • Yes. Shaking milk just got a time requirement, and I had NO IDEA it was coming.

  • I like these random small changes. For example I like that noodles now require rice and flour. These things keep me on my toes and interested. All the planning and spreadsheets (which can be tedious) can quickly be altered. Thus requiring people that are into making spreadsheets go back and change them and make new ones. It does throw off the planning a bit, but all for this if it makes it more difficult for people to do less pleasurable exploits, or give some players an incredible advantage. I think as auction prices fluctuate with each change, there will always be something that doesn't suit someone or may make the game less fun... So by all means TS, happy to see you change things up!

  • I'm all in favor of changes, it'd just be nice if there was a more reliable way of disseminating information to the masses. We tend to find out about changes as we experience them. Which can be a bit of a mental setback compared to actually finding out from a dev.

  • There should be a Change Log presented on the Home page, on the side, like a blog or RSS feed that lists the date and any changes that have been implemented. I would really appreciate something like that.
Posted 15 months ago by TRB4 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • TRB4, that is coming up shortly. The rate of change is pretty quick so we'll have a discrete log of changes (probably hosted on Twitter) and then summarize a couple of times a week in the forums and then one blog post round-up each week.
Posted 15 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Please, please leave the change log on the forums here!  Many of us are not interested in twitter.

  • +1 glum. If the change log must be on twitter, have it also be in the forums! Please!

  • Looks like the Rube has been modified, he's now got a limit of 5 offers, so no trawling through for the perfect deals any more :(

  • For anyone not interested in Twitter there is a great beta web site called If This Then That. You can use it to set up various triggers and perform an action as a result of the trigger. For example, I have it set up to send any tweets from isglitchopen and playglitch to my e-mail with a subject line I can filter on. I can monitor specific feeds without ever logging in to Twitter.

  • Millie, Glum: It will certainly be updated in the forums as well, but just batched - as Stoot mentioned.

  • @Barry: I really, really do not like twitter and hardly use it at all. So I very much appreciate your tip. I set up an ifttt account. Don't know if I did it right, but we'll soon see. Thanks for the suggestion.
