Anybody doing their own voluntary game-play limitations?

I'm not talking just about specializing in furniture-making or alchemy. I'm talking about outright Quest refusal. I thought it might be neat to see who's being creative how, so if you've seen any examples of this, lemme know here!

For example:
I don't nibble pigs because I wanted to be vegetarian*. Therefore I can't complete certain cooking quests.
or I ran across somebody's profile who said he was playing a wood-gnome (I think?) and therefore couldn't manufacture things.

*I'm considering reversing this, for Glitch. The pigs seem to like it, whereas the chickens are awfully squeamish. I'd probably still garden for potatoes and rice, though.

  • I decided to challenge myself to not die. I lasted over 10 months before I screwed up so spectacularly that I'm still kicking myself 3 months later.

  • Poor Voluptua. I also am in the "don't die" club. I'm still going strong! It helps that I'm mostly a casual player, playing for only 15 minutes at a time, though some days I've had long play sessions with lots of scrambling for food and meditation!

  • I don't scrape barnacles because it kills the barnacle (I know a new one grows back, but the original is killed) and I don't make crystals because it would presumably kill the fireflies. I guess now salmon are living, I won't be making salmon-based dishes either.

They're all pixels really, but killing things makes me feel bad, even pixels.

  • I've been playing over a year and also haven't died yet... someday I'll have a "Going to Hell" party and finally get it over with ^_^

  • I am a big tree person. I will not harvest a tree without petting and watering it, and sometimes I even pet and water it without harvesting.

  • I set odd goals for myself. I tend to gather ALL THE THINGS before I set down and manufacture a certain amount of things. Case in point, I haven't started a tower yet because I want to collect everything needed to make it all in one game day instead of over time. I collected ridiculous amounts of harvestables in order to achieve such badges as making 2003 seasoned beans and eggs. Crazy? Sure, but soo worth it to get it all done.

As for other things, I refuse to do the second part of the Kid's Room quest (how many words in a certain amount of time, I believe) because I just want to hang out and watch the everlasting tea party there.

  • i'll probably learn all the skills eventually out of boredom, but when i started i decided i'd like to do farm type stuff, like crops & animals. i posted in another thread that actually i found it strange one person can eventually do everything - seems boring to me. this way, a friend can help me by making metal rods, and i can help them by feeding them to sloths, for example. seems this type of character choosing would foster the community aspect of the game more imo.

  • A long time ago, I decided not to donate to shrines of giants.  I decided to essentially play as a giant Atheist...

Unfortunately, now I am forced to collect emblems as I walk by, even though there are some I didn't want.  And I can't participate in feats because the requirement for the quest to get the conch (which you need to have to participate in feats) required you to donate to all the shrines.  Oh, well... It's a bummer because I loved the old street projects, and 'feats' are sort of replacements for them...but I'm sticking to my guns to not donate to shrines, even though it doesn't let me participate in the feats part of the game.

    I know, I'm weird...

  • I harvest first and pet and water last.

  • As a cook, I prefer to source my own ingredients by harvesting, travelling, etc. But I stopped milking butterflies out of sheer frustration. Other glitchen are my suppliers now.

Oh my giants, you just made me realize you actually do kill things in Glitch. Ahhhh, noooo!

  • My quoin multiplier is maxed, in turn i don't really need img. So on the occassions that i go to the quoin hopping regions I avoid all img quoins...and really anywhere for that matter. I'm trying to keep my progression through the rest of the lvl's slow.

  • I dunno. I'm an agnostic in the real world, but there's a fair amount of evidence for Giants in Ur....

  • I get fussy about cleaning my own plots or tending to my backyard plantings.  Makes no sense because I love tending the plots of others!!  I'll say to myself, just pet each piggie twice and then go plant, harvest, clean so and so's plots.  Poor spice tree is being ignored  :(

If I see something on the ground that looks like it was left for a beginner, like a chick cubimal or a banana or a single spinach, I will not pick it up, even though my credo is "if it is on the ground, it is for meeeeeee".  I just figure that A. I don't need any more spinach or any more chick cubimals and B. The glitch dropped it there so a newbie, who actually needs it, would happily find it.

I like weird and I like all the little quirks here.

  • I started out as a vegetarian Glitch, too (I'm vegan in RL). I wouldn't nibble pigs after the tutorial and I bought super veggie kebabs from the meal vendor while basically living in the mines. Then I gave up when I realized how profitable having tons of pigs could be...but when I stopped playing for a while and returned to piles of meat, I gave that up. I don't eat much at all anymore. I usually just meditate to maintain my energy. I guess my Glitch has transcended to a higher source of being, or something. :P

As for other limitations, not really. I no longer do anything that requires me to sign in often, so no pet piggies or gardens. I used to be a little more structured when I play, now I just meander...

  • I remember someone had an alt that has not been on a "proper" street in Ur since the day they started. Only home streets! Craziness.

  • A while ago, when we had xp instead of iMG, I decided to stop leveling up and was quite successful. This was back when leveling only increased energy tank size and icon tithing costs, and unlike iMG, xp wasn't used for anything. I stayed at level 29 for ages by keeping my mood as low as possible. Accomplished that by dying at the beginning of the game day rather than at the end, and thereon, I would prod a piece of Very, Very Stinky Cheese to lower my mood by 50 units at a time whenever it went up.

This little project went on for a long time, and I don't completely remember why I decided to stop. It was fun while it lasted though :) I'm at a high enough level now that I'm just sitting on millions of iMG, so I might even start it up again!

  • I have to use "limitations" . I am laggy and although I have most skills, I rarely enjoy playing for long, i.e., under 1 rl hour.

  • b3achy, I'm sure someone would lend you a conch to do the quest, if that would work?

  • Lady Cailia, are you thinking of Agoraphobe?  If so, it's even crazier than you remember, since she was imagined before there even WERE home streets.  She never left the Ur-street her house was on at all.  Got up pretty high-level, too.  Now it looks like she's exploring homestreets, given her most recent badge.

I also know a couple of alts who have tried to see how high-level they could get without learning any skills.  Sally Noskills is one of them, but I think there were a few who played more seriously than she did (S.N. is only level 10).

You can't blow the conch unless you've completed the Esquibeth quest, which you can't do until you've done the Respect for Beginnings quest

  • I used not want to di until I heard that it was a good thing and I could get a completionist badge. Now i kinda regret it. Hell is a ghoulish place. *shudder* And I rarely ever use nono

  • I make tons of Expensive Grilled Cheeses and Awesome Stews but I won't eat any of it. If I'm running out of energy, I either meditate, buy an energy card, run through the ancestrial lands and grab some energy quoins, die and resurrect with a Get out of Hell free card or log off until the new day.

I make food to sell in my tower and to the vendor, but I refuse to eat it myself.
