No longer denying my emotions. (New mood indicator rocks).

With the old mood indicator, I completely disregarded mood. That was a terrible waste, because it's a pretty important game mechanic.

The new indicator, with its Jobsian "everything should be anthropomorphic" design philosophy has me caring about, engaging with, and tending to my mood.

Suffice it to say: "+1".

  • I've been wondering if mood should simply show on the face of every avatar in the game.  Except when using one of the four expressions on purpose, of course.  It would be kind of cool to be able to spot people who might need a random kindness for a mood boost, but it also might lead you to think that certain people were always grumpy, when they just don't bother to spend to boost their avatar's mood score.

  • I too love the new mood indicator. Especially when I come back from hell and it's raining.

  • Externally perceptible mood could be very cool. It could have some nasty side-effects though. Glitch works very hard to create the feeling of a consistently happy environment. If the world were populated with visibly troubled, emotionally exhausted glitchen, it might feel less like a charming diversion from reality and more like "Human Condition Simulator 2012".

Maybe it depends on the median mood of characters in the game. If the occasional heavy-hearted, dramatically pouting glitch was the exception, then you would be creating opportunities for empathy. As you say, it would feel so much better to sprinkle a little bit of the old Random Kindness when you knew the recipient would actually appreciate it.

  • Yeah, I love it too. It's so charming! Also, I think my glitch's face looks sketched out when it gets under 90% so it's extra incentive for me to get it back up again. And I really love being able to leave my cursor over the circle so I can monitor the actual percentage while I play, I'm finding this VERY useful!

  • Mereret, your idea would be hilarious in execution! Imagine seeing someone with a little raincloud above them? I love it.

  • YES, I love the raining face!! My glitch looks so aggravated! Also, my 2nd-happiest mood face looks completely manic: eyes wide open, mouth in an insane grin with one adorable tooth showing. I actually like to get my mood back to 100% because that face is slightly scary.

  • Maybe to avoid the general downer of too many people with devastatingly sad faces, you could mouse over someone to get a thought bubble with their current mood face, and see the "real" them.

  • Lettuce, high five for the one toothed grin!!!

    My emoticon for it: :F)

I like that idea too, Mereret (sorry for misspelling your name the first time :< )!

  • I'm sure that our children's children will play something like glitch where the character face is updated in real time via webcam capture.

  • I love them too! The only problem is that I'm only happy when it rains... and that just doesn't work in game lol unless I want to earn nothing for everything I do, oh well... at least over all it's a very cute change :)

  • Yes, I love the new way mood is shown too - brings me a little joy every time I look at it :) Even when my mood is close to 0 which is the funniest pic :)
