There was a 'trick' to get a doll from the Rube. No game rules were broken to exploit this 'trick.' But a bunch of people knew it and have been doing it. It appears now to have been 'nerfed.'
The key is to hold things in your inventory that The Rube will have no interest in. You have to have a high number of pieces of inventory but you have to choose wisely. He won't go for: SWFs, cubimals (not boxes), tickets, emblems, scripts, random kindnesses, keys, notes, musicblocks, etc.
DON'T HOLD: any raw materials (meat, grain, eggs, milk, etc.), drinks, expensive/awesome pot food, tools, focusing orb, spice rack, alchemisty set, etc.
Once you realize this, just load your inventory up with a large amount of "Non-Rube" items and a few Stills and Grand Ol' Grinders. You're almost guaranteed one because you pass the item number test and then he's only given the option of trading for the high ticket items. Make it so he can only choose a Still or GoG.
What Nack says may work. I did once tried with my inventory mostly emblems, but Rube went after the lowest value item (spinach or firefly jar) and all the 5 trades were for that low-level item.
I haven't tried all emblems (and other non-Rube items) with only 2k+ items. May try it later.
Yes, and the devs do expect players to exploit Rube once more. IMO, it's better to have the exploit out in the open so that the players who'll sell the dolls at 100k-200k can't have the upper hand.
what im wondering is did the rube always have a set list of items to trade for/with, or with the newest doll update with the rube they changed him. I think it would be better if it was completely random, with the dolls in a lower percentile of probable trades. it would instantly kill off confused rube, and make the exploiting pointless.
Dolls appear to be mostly traded for items at least 2k+ value. I've only read of two people who said he traded for cheap items - one for spice mill, the other for a piggy feeder.
I tried Nack's suggestion. I had over 60 items in inventory, all the kind of stuff suggested, and got confused rube. Other than lots of "non-rube" items I had 3 stills, EHSP, caldron, Grand Ol Grinder, fancy pick, super scraper, and a crystalmalizing chamber. What am I doing wrong?
I want the dolls but Rube's offers to me are not the best trades and never cubimals or dolls. I am willing to pay 25=30 k per doll and hope the market someday will come down to were I can afford to buy these dolls. I haven't heard anyone mention the Yeti Doll, is that one available?
Actually, the Yeti doll was given to alpha/beta testers that were in game as of December 2010. Many beta testers, like me, joined in early 2011 so we did not get the yeti doll. But we got Senor Pickle months later at launch!
I wouldn't be surprised if all the current beta players get some special collectible doll when glitch re-launches later next year. And maybe, hopefully *fingers, eyes, toes crossed* we will all get a 2011 holiday doll this month. *bats eyes and looks sweetly at the awesomers*
OK! So I used the same inventory as before (5 posts up) but added just a little food and beverages. Finally got a doll! But really I tried for days, and just now only got the one doll.
Tried again with the exact same inventory, no doll that time. But I'm so happy playing with Ayn Rand while I wait for more rubeweed to grow.
EDIT: TRADEDFINALLY got my second doll. FN for a still. Trade 4/5 (Rube skipped right to 2/5 this time). Was carrying my regular extensive inventory of everything from crap to valuables.
That being said, unfortunately, I already had a FN doll, so I'm putting this one up for trade. I still need AR and LW dolls, but if no one has those up for trade, I'll take 30,000 currants or best offer. Message me!
EDIT: TRADED
9th Doll (LW) for EHSP 5/5. It was the second trade. The first trade - Rube offered me Cubimal Box for (I forgot what it was).
The inventory I used was my usual since the "having no cheap trade options for Rube" seems to increase the chance for skipped trades and duplicate trades (for me).
10th Doll (Ayn Rand) for a Still. I think this was the 3rd or 4th trade.
By the way, (I think) if the Rube takes a long time to say, "Your Name, talk to me if you want to trade." Something's off. You'll probably get skipped and/or duplicate trades. Of course, this means you gotta tweaked your inventory more.
When the Rube appears, do NOT talk to him right away. Wait for him to talk to you first.
If he takes a long time to tell you to talk to him for a trade - then, something's off.
If he really takes a long time to talk to you - just WAIT. I once have Rube take like 20 seconds before he paid any attention to me and he skipped immediately to 4/5 trade offer. However, he wasn't confused.
1. Corn-off-the-cob for paper
2. fruit changing machine for watering can
3. fruit changing machine for watering can
4. Friedrich Nietzsche Doll for EHSP
Updated, out of 8 trials this setup gave me 3 dolls! :D
Got a AR doll for my Super Scraper. It was Rube's first offer and he came talk to me very quickly. I only had a "Rube bag" with moderately expensive items.
depends on your definition of worth it - i got all three dolls in the past week, not by holding a special rube-friendly inventory but just using the essences every day, taking the last trade and holding on to the stuff he gives me for future trades.
