Cooperative?

One thing I like a lot about Glitch is the way the various sections of the game work together: food fuels other crafts, cocktails fuel mining and crushing, which make for donation fodder, etc.  Especially pleasing is that, ultimately, it's terribly inefficient for any one Glitch to try to maintain the whole cycle themselves.

One way to handle that is to get what you need from vendors or the auction house, and sell what you don't.

Another way would be to join a group of, say, a dozen Glitches and work as a team - some farming crops, others blending cocktails or making food, some mining, and others making powders - with some sort of understanding about how to distribute the products of labor.

Since the reset, I've switched tacks from mining to farming, and have the seeds of a respectable pork fountain brewing.  If anyone would be interested in going in on some sort of co-op plan, say so, and with luck we can work something out.

  • Ok, I'm crazy about the idea of co-op group in Glitch. I wanna be the part of the team and bored of playing alone. So, what is your plan, Yarrow?

  • I like the sound of that.

  • I'm into it. I had also suggested a rotating farmer's market/swap meet type of gathering, especially vegetables for herbs, but I will be making all sorts of powders soon and I'll probably be interested in swapping them too.

  • I like this idea, too.  It emphasizes the social aspect of Glitch and de-emphasizes the "me against the world" attitude.  And some of us like doing one thing a lot more than others.  Sign me up!

  • Okay, well, I've just started a group called "The Co-op" so that we can try to keep in touch and coordinate.  Feel free to join up.

Like I said, I'm well positioned to provide food, especially meat, and hopefully in quantity.  I know I'm already hurting for donations fodder, and I'm sure I could use some Fecundity and HSP in the near future.

What're you all set up for and needing?

  • I'll send invites to everyone who replies here, although it was *supposed* to be "anyone can apply" so that we could make sure there wasn't more immediately membership than we could manage.

  • i disagree with the premise.

going solo is currently far more efficient than playing coop.

players play in different regions, but to coop you need to combine items together, which means either mailing [slow or expensive] or auction [expensive].

you could teleport, but then there are teleport costs.

you could accumulate a stockpile in a house, but then the owner of the house would have to constantly be online to let people in.

there is currently all kinds of friction inherent in the kind of play you describe that is simply not present in solo play. there are no tools or feature to alleviate any of that friction.

  • striatic, you're welcome not to join :)

I do think you have a point that there's friction to cooperating: probably mail makes most sense, and it'll be key to know what everyone needs so that we can plan ahead on sharing resources.  On the other hand, nice to start a day with a dozen earthshakers and two stacks of meat at the closest mailbox, right?

  • the OP also says ..

"Especially pleasing is that, ultimately, it's terribly inefficient for any one Glitch to try to maintain the whole cycle themselves."

.. when that simply is not true. it is just as efficient to do solo as it is coop .. minus the additional teleports, auction fees, mailing fees and so on.

some of the most efficient players in the previous test not only played solo, but didn't even interact with other players via auction.

  • "Since the reset, I've switched tacks from mining to farming, and have the seeds of a respectable pork fountain brewing."

Pork Fountains were nerfed a long time ago, and are no longer especially efficient. the energy and resources put into the fecundity are not nearly worth the resulting meat/milk, even inside houses with the highest animal capacities.

  • I don't really know how efficient it will be but I just want to be a hippie and hang out at the farmers market/co-op bartering and trading goods :)

  • Seems to me like it would be cheaper than buying from vendors or auctions, anyway. Mailing costs aren't as expensive as that. Most importantly, it sounds like fun! We could also have meet-ups at somebody's house at a set time to exchange stuff. Like a Glitch-ware party :)

This is actually a pretty good reason to have group halls or streets. Everyone in the group can share resources and do the crafting/switching thing from a central location.

On the other hand, it only takes one jerk to ruin the whole thing.

  • @Skwid Hopefully a jerk would not be polite enough to earn themselves an invite to the group, though. :) Some of them are woefully persistent, though...
Posted 15 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Simple... Make a 'guilld' that only allows the owner to withdraw.  Then, anyone in the guild can use the items in recipes (produce something else).  All this would require is an option for items in a guild bank to be used while still stored.  Then the 'jerk' can't just steal everything.

Obviously, anyone can deposit.  You could even limit how many of a certain item is in the bank.  This wouldn't be that difficult of a task I wouldn't think... I can think of a few ways to do it in code (granted bugs/glitches are what would need to be worked out).

  • I would totally be interested in joining a group like this! :)  I'm playing around with spice making right now (obviously, still a little new at the whole thing), but a farmers market/swapmeet/co-operative thing idea sounds fun.

  • I actually was trying some different ideas for making money. Not necessarily for the sake of making money either. Just like trying to make the game more interacting. Sadly, the game hardly awards for this type of play. Even co-op mining can be done solo. Yes, co-op mining is a solo activity in this game.

Anyways, one of the things I was going to do was make drinks and foods and make like a courier service. I was going to make things for people and deliver them. Like the group was going to be a group where you popped on, and people who were in the group were either customers or couriers. And as I was running the numbers for it... it was like. Good grief. I may as well just sell the cherries. And then on top of that, there's no real need for that type of service because it's so much easier to be self sufficient. It just didn't make sense.

Another idea I had was selling Pungent Sunrise on the auction. I could actually sell them for a good amount of money. But there was another severe problem. An NPC sells them! So, I realistically could have been buying them from the NPC that whole time and selling them for money. Not to mention, the cherries I harvested were actually worth more than the drink. That's before factoring energy and time costs!

So, IDK. I'm with striatic that the game doesn't really support team play or interactivity at all. Just get money playing solo. Once you get your house, there's really nothing else to buy. Money becomes like Diablo money.

  • Group halls will be back (and better) "soon" and that will make the co-op dream a lot easier (and more profitable, though I don't think that's the point ...)
