The Ajaya Debate

So we all want to get as much sparkly as possible as quickly as possible , it is for that reason we come to Ajaya, right?

It's so close to  the end of this final test so every one is doing this crazy mad dash for the most currants they can.

I get all of that.BUT what I don't get is teaming up with everyone in Bliss and thinking you can organize 20 plus people in such a small area.I realize that that process really benefits level 1 miners but as for us 2 and 3's its just a pretty pointless waiting game.

It is practically useless to come to Ajaya before you have lvl2 . I really dont feel sorry for folks who whine about rocks going down too quickly You can learn the skill just the same as I can ...IF YOU CAN"T STAND THE HEAT... there are about a million sparklys outside the doors to Subarna...go find them and let us  ALL mine in peace.

another cliche.. DONT HATE THE PLAYER HATE THE GAME ! but really how can you hate the game either.

  • I was down there for a while, I don't know how many people were down there. It was just like a party without the food and drink. I gave up and went somewhere quieter, I still managed to find enough sparkly rocks.

  • Here's what I see as the issues at hand in Ajaya:

    1) If you get too many miners, the rock is depleted in one blast, and then they take too long to respawn.

This problem comes about mainly through lack of organization and cooperation. If several small groups of miners all mine all the rocks at the same time, not only do the members of each group get fewer bonus rocks, but the rocks are all depleted at once, and everyone has to stand around for them to all respawn at once. If all the miners stayed at one rock at a time, and moved from rock to rock as a group, you might get a situation where there was always a rock respawning as the group finished.  Alternately, perhaps the devs could make it so that instead of having a set respawn time, rocks would automatically go into respawn if the room was depleted.

    2) The last miners to come to a rock, get the fewest bonus chunks.

It seems that the first person to mine is "helped" by all the other miners and gets the most chunks, as it seemed to me I got fewer chunks coming last to the mining than I did when I started the rock and others joined me.  Again, organization among the miners might help this: in a small group it could be arranged to take turns being the "first" to any rock.

In all, though Ajaya does seem to work best if there are 10 or fewer people mining there at once. Not sure what could be done about that.

  • I hadn't gotten to the mining quest yet.  But it explains why the peat bogs are just there for the taking today. :)  The devs will more than likely re-balance things, change up something or another, for the next game opening.

  • I don't just go there for the mining/currants though. I go there just as much to see friends and talk.  No reason to be competitive and get frustrated. There will always be more shiny. If you have to wait for them to respawn, make a few drinks and some food and spread the love.

  • The special larger sparkly rocks are spawning with not enough frequency there and the spawn times are too long for the level of activity. I went in there and enjoyed it for a while, but those long waits and still limited resources for the number of people creates problems yet.

Edit to correct a word omission there!

  • I'm a fan of the new group mining rules. I actually like it that Ajaya Bliss is too slow and/or partyish for some folk. It shouldn't be perfect.

  • There should be an encyclopedia article for "Blown-Up Spot", featuring a picture of Ajaya Bliss.

That's not a statement couched in frustration or anti-competition; I used to really enjoy being there when the numbers were sustainable. But anymore there's just too many dang people there most of the time, and I make better time on my mining-quota going elsewhere. Socializing is good and all, but my computer lags in big crowds and I don't enjoy being in the mines to begin with. I think it's boring. I'd rather get my mining done and over with, maybe hang out with one or two people, then GTFO, because there are more interesting things to do. So, from that standpoint, Ajaya Bliss is a bust for me. I can see what the appeal of 30 people mining 15 rocks might be, but it's not central to mining for me. Wrapping it up and leaving is.

  • I enjoyed being in Ajaya Bliss. There was an immediate understanding that the ten or so of us would do far better mining together. When there were no rocks we would do the "mine dance" jumping around the place, and even form a conga line for a few moments. I got an amazing amount of sparkly in a short time. And yes, it was like a party, lots of local chat and mostly enjoying ourselves.

  • I really don't see what the problem is. The rocks respawn just the same as trees and other plants do. I was down there today for the first time ever to mine with friends. We had a blast. Mining by yourself uses too much energy. That's why so many people die down there. We all jumped around and shared the mining and we all made mad currents today. Sharing is what the game is based on. I mean come on there are badges and quest based off sharing, so just get alone and share the shiny. It will keep coming back and you will still be able to get some.

  • I love ajaya, it's a constant party! I'm not in a rush to do my mining. I like to take it slow. I started mining in Ajaya at level one before the reset, and yes, everyone else got lots and lots more sparkly than I did and MUCH faster, but I wasn't there for the currants. I was there for the socializing. Fun times :)

  • As i ca say, compared to before, theres some advantages in group mining, but thats not the main point for me. Ajaya is like a world of its own and has ever been. I  have spent there some of the greatest time in glitch and had some of the best conversations and met some of the most interesting people around. That´s my Ajaya Bliss at least! And why i love it. Mining is cool but i always prefer the easy going thing, if i kmiss a rock, i dont really care much. The main part should always be fun and the great people there, and i saw some of those friends who used to make time so great had been annoyed and left the place. Thats the sad part about it. But, when we started trying group mining regulations (which is ok to test it), we totally lost the point in the end. People started to snub each other if you dont follow the "rules" and blame the missing success on each other. And all that quickly destroyed all the social thing and fun. For me! Efficiency is not  a rule i force my life to be in at all costs. We´re not NPCs, so i suggest to keep the dogma out and let sweet love have a home in ajaya Bliss to the end of time (as cheesy as it may sound). And please people stop crying when you miss a rock this time, the thing about Ajaya is they RE-SPAWN quickly.
thumbs up, i´m with malos opinion. EDIT:  and lotus and seylah too

  • Sharing is wonderful. No trouble with sharing rocks here. But if I can go to, say, Tharon Spelunk or Punar Grotta and spend 10 minutes mining what would take me about 30-35 in a jam-packed Ajaya Bliss, then I'd rather do that. I spent a lot of time mining before the reset, and tbh, if there was a better way to make money, I'd do that in a second. For me, and I would imagine for a lot of people who steer clear of Ajaya Bliss, it isn't some projected anti-social or anti-competitive or anti-sharing tendency (or whatever other thing it is people like to throw out in the forums to show how dumb and childish those who don't agree with them are), it has to do with time spent mining versus actual enjoyment derived from mining. Like I said above, to me mining is soul-suckingly boring. I don't want to have to do it any longer than necessary. I want to have fun when playing the game. So if the choice is between expending a little bit of energy somewhere and getting 50 rocks, or jumping around for 10 minutes before getting 25 (and then getting the opportunity to do the same all over again till the next rock respawns), I'm gonna take the latter every time. There are lots of people in this game I would consider friends, and nothing against any of you, but I'd rather BS with you above-ground. Mining's what I do when I have to, as opposed to when I get to.

Every public building has a safe room limit, so why not impose one on places like this? It's for everyone's safety, sanity and well being.

  • I don't even understand what is at issue.  It seems like the more people mining the less energy I use for more rock.  So what is the problem?

Before rest I spent loads of time alone or with a couple of people in Bliss.  I am sure it will return to that once people have made enough money to buy homes, tools, bags, ect.

  • I'm with Djabrill: mining is "soul-suckingly boring" for me too. However, I have had a total blast in Ajaya this test. I absolutely loved it--it was like a party, and a heck of a lot more fun then standing in one spot hitting the same buttons over and over. Plus, it was really fun to see how many rocks I would get from being helped. Sometimes it was only one or two, sometimes it was closer to 60. I heard someone say they got over 90 rocks from help on one rock! It can get totally awesome, and extremely worth while when there are a large number of people doing it and coordinating with eachother as much as possible. Around 20 people all mining the same rock is magical. I'm currently at mining level 2, and mining an entire rock by myself would take all of my energy, and seemingly an eternity (soul-suckingly boring...). In Ajaya, at times I could get more than that out of a single whack on a single rock. It's extremely productive. The rock disappears in one whack, but it only takes a few seconds for another to respond... if you're too impatient to wait a few seconds for the large rewards you will get from only a single mining action on the next rock, then ok... there are plenty of sparkly rocks outside of Ajaya that you can mine on your own. Ajaya has turned into a co-op only zone, and those that don't like that are free to mine elsewhere.
Posted 15 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • no one has said anything in here about what is wrong with Ajaya. Personally, getting 30-60 chunks for 10 energy is awesome, and a good use of my time. Even if I have to wait a few seconds between rocks I'm still netting more chunks/hr than I would otherwise. I don't really understand what the complaining is about.
Posted 15 months ago by Skwid Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Skwid - I'm not sure exactly who's complaining; my comments are only to put into perspective why I don't go there all the time, rather than a whine-session about those who do. And I'm not sure anybody is suggesting that there is anything "wrong" with Ajaya. I think it's nice so many people have a place to hang out, and I do go there sometimes, today even. Doesn't mean it's for everybody, or all the time, though.

  • Just to put it out there, before this test I have spent quite a bit of time with Djabrill down in the big bliss. I know that you're not anti-social, anti-competitive, or anti-sharing by any means. You've proven your character to me and don't need to worry about your statement being seen as something other than airing your opinion. Lots of people would rather get to work and make bank rather than socialize. It ain't no crime.

Don't think that means that I won't want to b.s. with ya topside. Or maybe when we get that hall built again. Hopefully we will get the opportunity to do some building projects soon enough.

  • @skwid, i'm not sure you got were there when it was at its busiest/most dysfunctional. it got to a point where by leaving and mining i was able to make significantly more money than staying in Ajaya Bliss.

also, the OP has the low level mining situation really, really wrong.

low level miners have it GREAT in Ajaya under the current system. once there are enough people in Ajaya, nobody gets more than a single mining action on any rock and miners of all different levels have equal opportunity to get in first and get the big bonuses.

the reason people think the low level miners have it bad in Ajaya is that low level miner complain because they see everyone going more quickly, when in fact it appears that their longer mining times actually HELPS them since more people tend to help them while they're still going. Learning Mining III is arguably a bad idea, even.

  • mining could be better in Ajaya than outside, even with the current numbers of players fighting it out.

the issue is players like the OP who refuse to "wait", despite the fact that the miners are well, well ahead of the street's re-spawn rate and would have to "wait" anyway, by bouncing around on the constant hunt. that's still "waiting" even if you happen to be moving while doing it.

when all the miners focus on one rock, there are two benefits.

one -  there is the potential for mega bonuses for the first  player in .. just, ridiculous numbers that if divided would provide a huge surplus for all present versus mining solo.

two - if everyone starts on one rock at the same time, they all will get a piece of the action. do this for each and every spawned rock and all is well. problem is when two rocks spawn at once, and the group splits in order to avoid "waiting". this is ultimately self-defeating because the mega bonuses go away and because instead of everyone getting two swings [one at each rock] each player gets a single swing while the second rock is likewise obliterated.

there's the potential for things to work out very well in Ajaya even with MASSIVE numbers of glitches, but not so long as it is a self-defeating free for all.
Posted 15 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So the issue is that with large groups of people jumping around they tend to mine separate rocks at the same time. If there are enough rocks mined out at the same time then you spend more time waiting for rocks to respawn. Time that would be spent actually Mining outside of Ajaya Bliss.

    Correct?

  • "striatic wrote: it got to a point where by leaving and mining i was able to make significantly more money than staying in Ajaya Bliss.

in Ajaya, once there were enough people, you only get one swing per rock, and often because of split group dysfunction you'll only get a crack at 10 of the 15 rocks during a re-spawn cycle. if you aren't getting in first, the bonuses you get are marginal.

there's a ton of sparkly around the Punar Grotta area, densely located. you burn more energy extracting it but you get it quick and can buy more energy. you can also mine Beryl while you're at it if your street load times are slow.

i'm not saying Ajaya sucks, far from it. if you just want low energy mining and don't care about profit over time, it works best. below a certain number of people, it works best. it is just that once you get to the point where the volume of people and the impatience to mine creates situations where everyone is split up, mining fewer rocks per player, for fewer chunks per player, it just works out better to leave Ajaya and go solo.
Posted 15 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Skwid, correct.

a more concise way to put it would be that players end up getting 10 or fewer mining actions per re-spawn cycle due to lack of coordination.

with coordination, players would get 15 mining actions per re-spawn cycle [mining all 15 rocks], without extending the cycle and while getting greater bonus multipliers.

read the OP's misunderstandings to figure out why that'll never happen tho.

  • Striatic is right--it is best when everyone focuses on a single rock and then everyone collectively moves on to the next one. This is hard to do with a lot of people about with their own minds, however.

As a low level mining player during this test, I can offer a perspective from that stand-point. When I learned Mining 2 and tried to mine a single rock by myself, I noticed it was depleting my energy way too quickly, and taking way too long per swing to be worth the effort. So, I decided to swing by Ajaya Bliss to see if the co-op mining could help me out. As a low level miner, this is what I observed: Rocks would typically be depleted in one of my excruciatingly slow whacks. On rare occasions, I could get a second whack in before the entire rock was done. By myself, that one whack would have yielded me around 5 rock, and taken 10 energy (a big percentage of my total for so little reward). If I was one of the first people to start on the rock, I would get around 10 to 60 extra rocks out of that one whack, depending on how many players were helping. As a low level miner I got more bonuses, because other higher level miners would be able to get at least 2 whacks in to my 1 whack, and each time one player started mining again, I would get another bonus chunk from them. Higher level players will get fewer bonus chunks, but be able to mine more often before the rock is depleted.

If I was one of the last people to mine a rock, I would be stuck with zero to one or maybe 2 bonus chunks on top of the 5 I got myself, and I would be sitting there still mining the rock long after it had disappeared, and everyone else moved on to the next one. I encountered the worst case scenario once: arriving at the end of one rock and receiving only 5 chunks on it, then taking forever to finish it up while everyone else moved on to the next one, getting to that one at the end and again only getting 5 chunks, and so forth through several rocks until finally the streak was broken. These negative moments of arriving late to a rock, however, are balanced by the big positive pay-outs when getting there early, so overall it is still much more worth-while to work in large groups than alone.

Working in small groups (two, three, four people, etc.)--I'm not so sure that is worth it.

Are the bonuses too big? I don't think so. We should be rewarded when we are able to get 20 people together to mine a single rock. This is a very big feat! It will probably be harder to do in the future, too, when co-op mining is no longer the big popular thing to do, and attention is shifted to other things like working on projects.

  • Shepherdmoon has a good understanding of the pros and cons of low level minting in Ajaya. the con can be minimized by just not ever mining "late" and instead prepping to mine a different rock "early" instead.

the other boon to mining outside versus mining inside Ajaya once it gets dysfunctional is that you increase the overall number of mining actions and thus increase the chance of collecting gems.

Ajaya optimization is kind of like this, as the population increases ..

    _/\_

i think with single rock focus the mini-graph might look more like this ..

  • Here's my question about Ajaya Bliss, and I'm not sure how I've missed this, though it might be because before the reset I was more focused on farming than mining.  Is that the one that needs a key to get there?  I tried to go last night and right where it's supposed to be, there seems to be a locked door, and the key that matches it was going for 5250 currants on auction.  How are so many people getting in?
Posted 15 months ago by Circe Subscriber! | Permalink
  • the keys spawn in Gori Blear as well as Nandak Intention. you need spinach or levitation to get to the spawn points.

don't ever buy a key for 5k - you're throwing your money away.

once you have teleportation you can set a point in there, and people are always teleporting in so if you "follow" them you can catch a ride into the street. you can ask in global for a lift or even just stay in front of the door until you see someone entering and then ask if you can follow. click them and then "follow".

never, ever, ever, ever pay 5k for any individual item at auction.
Posted 15 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Circe: There are several ways. You can get the Teal-White Triangle Key and open the door, or you can follow someone when they teleport inside. Most people learn Teleport 1 and set their teleport location to Ajaya Bliss, and then can get there any time, from anywhere.
