Multiple firefly hives don't really produce multiple swarms.

When I have two firefly hives I am unable to actually get two whole swarms. I am usually unable to get even one whole swarm at one of them and I have never seen two whole swarms at the same time. Now that I'm curating the Barnacles & Fireflies Resource Route I'm noticing it on other people's streets too.

I asked around in general: Multiple firefly hives, are yours working?
and other people seem to be seeing this too. I decided to test this in my back yard. I started with one healthy happy hive at one end of the yard and added a new one at the far left. Here's how their populations varied:

I logged out after adding the 2nd hive & came back a while later to
0 L, 10 R ... then I harvested the right hive to

0 L, 3 R ... waited 5 minutes
3 L, 7 R  ... (looks promising). waited 5 more minutes
3 L, 7 R ... waited 5 more minutes. still
3 L, 7 R ... harvested again to

3 L, 0 R ... waited 5 min
6 L, 4 R ... waited 5 min
6 L, 4 R ... waited 10 min
6 L, 4 R. ... then I logged out for 20 min and came back to
6 L, 4 R.

I have seen these relatively low firefly populations in every street I have visited with more than one hive. Do we have a limit of 10 fireflies/area in the "residential district," regardless of the number of hives cultivated?

  • OK, I walked the fireflies route and took a census. For science.

One street only had 7 fireflies (I think they were still spawning), the other six streets all had a total of 10 fireflies, whether they had 1, 2 or 5 hives.

  • I noticed this also when walking the route. I have one hive on my street and it has about ten fireflies. When I go to streets with more than two hives, they are spread out and thinner (Never actually counted them).

  • Same problem: have 2 hives on my street near each other, and 4-5 fireflies max in each, but another one i have in my yard always have 10.

  • Three hives, 8 fireflies. This sucks!

  • I know someone with 13 hives... with 1-2 flies on a few of them,  3 hives are completely empty.

  • We fixed some bugs surrounding swarms and firefly hives a couple days ago. If you still have problems, send us a report here with the details and we can look.

  • -Sometimes the fireflies stay close to the hives, refusing to get into the Jar. This might be the result of opening the jar and then reloading the game (while the jar is open), or just having 10+ hives on one street is causing the flies to bug out somehow.
    - If there are multiple hives next to each other, A firefly hive with 0% lifespan will not die, even if you pour wine on it, only until the fireflies (from the other hives next to it) are far away enough from the 0% lifespan hive.
-Other than that the fireflies are very polished and fun to collect, thanks a bunch for making them fun!
-Another possible random bug: we can buy Jars for 107, but sell them (tool vendor) for 150.
(I filed this as a bug report, just posting this here, to let others confirm the bugs)
