Link to conversations that appear on the "news feed"

So, recent posts by people on my friends list appear in the little news feed thingy on the Glitch homepage. Most of the time, the end up looking something like this:

Amy Pond: @Hburger Maybe it was supposed to be something we wouldn't be able to finish?

The friend's name is a hyperlink, but it just takes you to their profile page (which incidentally doesn't show these recent posts). I think it would be nice to be able to jump to the conversation threads that these posts are part of. Also, it seems like most of the community has adapted to a twitterish style, e.g. the @Hburger in the post above. But on twitter, I would be able to click that and see Hburger's page and posts. I think that might be nice as well... I guess that constitutes 2 more suggestions: @names being links to their profiles, and profile pages showing that individual's recent posts (with links to the threads)

Could be confusing as multiple people can have the same name. I love the idea though

i don't agree that most of the community has adapted to a twittish style and would strongly prefer that the status updates not be twittified. i don't necessarily want my status updates available to non-friends, and i think the usage of talking @people in a status update space doesn't feel right either, because there's that whole weirdness of seeing one half of a conversation, as has been discussed in previous forum threads. and it also feels like it contributes a bit to that 'in crowd' feeling just a bit.

maybe i am just grumpy and old-school and don't necessarily like the idea of encouraging the whole idea of 'everybody's talking @people everywhere on the internet! one of us! one of us!' but that's my 2 currants fwiw ;)

  • i like the idea. i've found myself wanting to read the other side of a conversation a few times now.

seems like it could a good way to meet new people when a friend replies to someone you don't know. discover and create mutual friends.

but i think this is the sort of thing that should wait a little while, until we get a better sense of how these personal messages are being used across the user base .. perhaps it won't turn out to be very twitterlike at all.
