Grumble, grumble, stupid "Share with friends" home page, grumble, grumble...

I'm sure it's been said many times before, but that "Share with friends" wall-equivalent on our home pages has just GOT to change. Unless you've befriended pretty much everyone who's playing, you end up with one side of a bunch of conversations, which ends up being annoying more than enlightening.

I hope it's on the list for a major upgrade someday... (And I hope said upgrade will include the ability to send private messages, rather than having to post them on the public/friends board for everyone to read.)

(be well, love you all... even the folks who aren't mutual friends with me)

  • ;-) it's driving me nuts, too.

However, let's not forget that we're not open all the time, so the forums, groups, and the home page updates are the only way we can communicate with one another (unless you happen to be following that twitter Glitch list or the Facebook page) - and people are most likely to use the home page updates rather than groups or the forum since it's in your face as soon as you go to beta.glitch.com.

Once the game is open 24/7, people won't need to communicate via the home page to other players - they can use the in-game mail frog system.  I'm not sure I need in-game mail available to me outside of the game (although I wouldn't complain if it were so - could be useful to surface via the API).

If changes were made to the home page updates, I suggest just adding comments to update statuses.  That way, if someone wants to respond to an update they see, they can do so there and have anyone who can see the update be able to follow the conversation.

But not at the expense of in-game development!  I'd be bummed to see dev cycles go to building out a mail, twitter or facebook feed system when those cycles could be used to make the actual game more awesome.

So, I'm willing to deal with the homepage updates until the game goes 24/7 to see how it looks then. :)

  • Well I'll just go stand in the corner by myself in the "I like the home page" group. I am not on Facebook and have not friended EVERYONE. But the only thing that bugs me is the update about the skills people are learning. It is hard to congratulate everyone so I usually don't :(
I use the page like a chat page when the game is down (which it seems is what most do). Yes I miss a few key parts of a convo but I am able to just skip those and move on. I like the group feeling of everyone gabbing at once. Maybe its just me but I find this helps me to be more social as I can respond to something that was said if it relates to me and join the convo. Many times I do not IM people because I don't know how to start the convo. My regular life is pretty boring.

  • Oh Holly---LOL--You are too funny--- ((hugs)) I'll join you in the other corner---I'm okay with the home page ---yes I do get frustrated at times when I want to track down the other side of a comment and have to go through tons of names. I also agree with Zeeberk in that while the Home page could be improved, I would rather have the devs use their time perfecting the game first.

Anyway, I just learned a trick from glum pudding. She wrote:
"If you're trying to find someone on another person's friend list, hit control-f and type the name into the box which pops up at the bottom of your browser. It's much faster than reading a few hundred names. :) "

I tried it and it works---even on a Mac, which sometimes doesn't have the same commands as PCs. Very cool.

  • glum pudding is great gets my vote ,love reading her post as they make simple to the point sense. And to be on topic here I am okey with the face page forum ,sometimes it can be irritating with self gratification but folks are human and some need the reply from anyone to make themselves feel needed.other than that there can be good info there.Until we get to 24/7 though I would rather of see more of a forum talk sort of like a good chat witht edit to the reply, well quess soon this will hardly be used again unless we are down for maitenence.
