You might've hit on a 'glitch cache' (derived from geo cache). You'll find caches all over the world in spots you can hide behind, often with a note designating the spot as cache.
Do make sure to leave something behind for another person checking the cache, it's common courtesy.
We did more of it in beta... so far, all four glitch caches I've hidden have been swiped (and two were in really out-of-the-way spots). Then I did treasure notes (they had to send the note back to me to claim a prize) but that got taken too.
I think the group that does stuff like this is called Sandbox (http://www.glitch.com/groups/RHV101B3H2926QS/). Some very awesome stuff going on in there, do check it out if you like this sort of thing!
Was it a chick cubimal? If so that was probably me. ^__^
I've hidden things all over Ur in the last few days, mostly notes but some are notes with presents and some just presents. It's nice to know people are using the hiding places themselves after finding items~! ^_^ This whole thread makes me smile.
leaving stuff behind bushes is not derived from geocaching.
i leave stuff behind bushes and trees all the time and they are not "glitch-caches".
they are gifts.
geocachers have this weird tendency to make everything in the world caching related. ugh. it's a phase. it will pass, just as the tendency to love lame guardrail micros will pass.
as for the cubimals, that's how i get rid of my extras. i also craft tools and make meals that i leave for passers-by. i do not leave notes with them.
if you can't identify the source of a kindness, it could be anyone.
:: nods :: I love leaving gifts out and if that wasn't clear from my own post, it has nothing to do with caching of any kind. I just like leaving surprises out there in the world. ^_^
I've been stashing Batterfly Cubimals- I was up to 20-something at one point, and it just seemed like a better use for them than dumping them on my floor, never to be used again.
Sometimes silly pieces of cheese with a note saying 'Smell My Cheese'.
Sometimes useful things like keys.
(Sometimes I'm cheeky and leave a common key where rare keys sometimes appear. Sorry if you've ever fallen for this.)
Sometimes rubies, sapphires and diamonds.
I like to mix it up.
As well as hidden spots, I like to leave things at the world's extremities.
I also like to find things. And always leave something different where I found it...
I love leaving things hidden. And finding things, too. The other day, I found a Greeterbot cubimal, which is one I hadn't had before, so that was awesome. =)
I found a piggy cubimal this morning and asked a glitch standing near by if it was hers she said no, and both of us had one already, so we hid it again.
That one hidden cubimal will make at least three people happy.
I disagree with San Serif that you are expected to leave something else if you find a hidden/dropped item.
I hide things because I think it's fun to find places, and I think it's fun when i find things. If there is a note, then somebody might be disappointed if you don't leave something else, but if it's just there, take it if you want it.
I agree Niqster. I found a note in Ilmenskie that said there was a salad left for the finder. However there was no salad, just the note. :p So I left the note and put down some salad of my own XD
I love that most people take something and then leave something of their own. What an awesome community! I like to think we'll change the world...
My kids have a school pledge that begins, "Each day we are creating a new world..." I believe in this. My hope, is that eventually, this kindness and sharing and comraderie will spill over into the world outside Glitch and change the way society grinds.......
Edit ~ Oh I guess I misread Niq's post. But still...
