Travel Tracking

Is there a location to find out what streets you have visited?

I have been going to encyclopedia>locations to find out what streets I have visited.  To download and print various locations and streets is 15 pages, more like a small booklet.

Having completed all the skills I started traveling, discovering that I don't have an updated log book.

  • The only thing I could recommend is writing yourself an in-game note and adding a location to it every time you go somewhere new. The downside is a note only allows 1000 characters. Wish I could suggest something better.
I wish the map would color in areas you've already been to.

  • xoxJulie there is an API script somewhere for that which you can download. Try searching for it in the forums (sorry being a bit lazy :P )

  • The API script Gabi is talking about is on this page, called the Location Checker. It doesn't include all of the streets, though. I know some people keep excel sheets to keep track where they've been. Good luck!

  • I read up on the grease monkey script, but I have an Imac and use Safari.  I can't use Chrome and FireFox runs so sloow no fun at all.  So I'm still looking for a good answer.  Thank you for your ideas, that was really nice of you.

  • That's weird Julie. If you're able to play Glitch your computer should be able to run Chrome or Firefox no problem, considering Glitch takes about 70% of my CPU when it's running on my iMac that is only a year and a half old…

Your best bet without using the script is to make a spreadsheet of all the locations in the game, and then check them off one by one as you go to them. It's a fairly easy process, but much more complicated than the script.

  • My Imac is 4 years old and I still use Safari 10.4.11.  I have a lot of different games and most of those would not work if I updated to Safari 10.5 or higher.  Chrome won't even install and FireFox behaves so erratic it's no fun to play Glitch.  Spreadsheets are one of the few programs I have never learned.  I've tried but not successfully.  I was just hoping someone had a script out there that would have worked for me to track my travels.  Thank you for your ideas.

  • Julie-sorry for your troubles. Spreadsheets however, are not much more than a list of things (in its simplest form). Maybe you could open up a notepad (either comp or actual paper) and just make a list. Time consuming-yes, but it would get the job done. I wouldn't start worrying about it till after the reset though.

  • Julie, I would love to see a location tracker IN-GAME. Since we know the game keeps track of streets we've been on, it seems that it would be a simple thing for us to be able to see them on the map, or in some other fashion. IE does not support greasemonkey scripts and it is the browser commonly used by many people. Also, those greasemonkey scripts are a very easy way for people to get "bad things" onto your computer, e.g. trojans.

So, I will continue to voice my desire for an in-game solution whenever one of these threads is started.

  • Audaria, Greasemonkey scripts are no more dangerous than using IE.

There are many, many easy ways to download "bad things", and IE is one of the easiest browsers to do that with.

If you want to keep your computer safe, you need to use good protective software that warns you when a webpage is doing something unusual.  You also need to use good sense when adding computer software.

Most trojans and other "bad things" get on computers through users actively choosing to download the item.  Greasemonkey scripts are no better or worse than any other app you might want to add.

  • My computer is well protected. Thank you very much for your concern. My point wasn't that greasemonkey scripts are inherently bad, only that they are a very easy way for someone to gain access to one's computer. I use the best protective software and I use "good sense" when adding computer software. I do not add programs written by people I don't know in a willy nilly fashion, and that is exactly what many people on here have done with the greasemonkey scripts. And the reason IE doesn't support greasemonkey scripts is because they are one of the easiest ways for computers to become infected.

I do not want to have a debate about the safety of greasemonkey scripts. They can be safe and they can contain bugs. Period. There is no way to know without reading the code and most people here probably don't read the code.

I would like to have a location tracker in the game. It would be more convenient and it would be available for everyone who plays the game, regardless of what browser they use. I don't understand why there is such a hostile reaction to this. I realize the greasemonkey scripts exist. I don't care if other people want to use them. I would like it to be a function that is available within the game.

  • No hostile reaction from me, Audaria :P
I agree, a location tracker would be great to have in-game.

In the meantime, people can use the greasemonkey script(s) and their own excel sheets.

  • Hmm lots to think about.  For sure I won't throw away my pen and paper with the various locations that I have visited.  Hope for the best that a staff member will see this thread and make a travel tracker available in the game as those would work for everybody.  It isn't a necessary tool but would make it a lot of fun to see all the places I have traveled so far and places still to visit.  Might be very inconvientent at this time to initiate such a function for the developers because the reset is so close.  Would love to hear from Glitch if this is something they are thinking about developing.  Thanks again for all your information :)

  • Since there's already a 3rd party app that uses the Glitch API to do exactly what you're asking, I suspect duplicating that function is a very low priority.  That's why companies release their API code, so  that other people can create software that runs on their site, without the developers having to write everything themselves.

  • I print out all the maps and mark them with a pen when I have visited them.
