Does petting pigs twice make a difference?

I currently have Animal Kinship 6 (no Animal Husbandry). When I click a pig, I can pet the pig twice. It will not let me nibble if I do not pet at all. If I pet once, I get 3 meat. If I pet twice,I get 3 meat. Is there any reason to pet twice? Does it increase the chance of a super harvest?

Edited: Doh! I have AK 5. But the basic questionn still stands

  • I always thought the second pet was for capturing the piggy. As in you could go pet-nibble, then pet-capture.

  • If you have AK6, you should be able to nibble without petting. If you can't, this could be a bug. I always pet twice, just for the xp and mood. It has no impact on super harvests or capturing, as far as I know!

  • Well, before I had AK6, If I petted once and nibbled, I got 2 meat. If I petted twice and nibbled, I got 3, so I got in the habit of petting twice, but now it does not seem to be needed.

Edit: Sorry, I have AK5. When I had AK4, I had to pet twice to get three meats but now I get 3 with one pet.

  • The number of meats you get from nibbling increases with each skill level. Petting beforehand has no impact on this amount - you just have to pet first with lower skills to be allowed to nibble. Once you don't need to pet anymore, it becomes a matter of choice/preference, and still has no impact on how many meats you get with nibbling!

  • At AK6, it provides a great energy-to-experience ratio, though. It gives you 24 xp per pig  (12 each time you pet) in addition to the harvesting. Petting only requires 2 energy, too. I think singing to butterflies is the only animal interaction that provides more experience, and that takes a very significant chunk of energy to use.

  • I routinely pet pigs twice before nibbling.  One piggy provides 48 xp each time you do that.

Pay attention to your mood.  If you don't have a winky face mood level, you can get as little as 9 xp per action instead of 12.

  • Curious, does petting (and amount of petting) have any effect on pigs living when you have them in your backyard? I always pet mine before nibbling, but they don't require it. (AK6)

  • Once nibbling no longer requires petting, its only purpose is XP and mood, for which it is great.

  • Well, XP and seeing the piggies smile and wag their tails. That is worth a lot to me.

  • This is my advice for people looking to level up: DO EVERYTHING
    EVERYTHING? Yes, EVERYTHING!
Pet, squeeze, hug, water, massage-the xp you earn over time is astounding.

  • I've captured pigs without petting, so I doubt petting twice would be necessary. All you need is bait...
