Tired of Resources and Other Forms of Gameplay? Welcome to the Noute Route!

[Prologue: Since I have to wordplay around at all times, I am resorting to spell "note" the faux-nadian way.]
Chicken squeezing getting you down? Mining too self-centered? Are you just collectively exhausted? Take a break and read a stake!

This theoretical group is focused on relaxation. Get out of the hustle bustle of the barnacle crushle! Instead, slowly canter through various home streets, taking in poesy, prose, and perhaps abominations of both! Post some great words - of your own, or from wordsmiths like Plato or Roland Barthes, or even quotes from your deranged neighbor, why not! Anything's game*! Let's make our streets library totems!

Maybe this will just be a directory list instead of one of those lame "signpost routes"! Let's try that until objections.

I've also merged the Library Route members as far as I can tell. Plus, here's the Poetry Route of Ur for your consideration. Now, for the main attraction:

  • Hi, sounds like fun.  I want to be on the Lit. Loop too!

  • Heh, given that you don't have the existing members permission (and a quick check of one profile page suggests they are not actually pointing any sign at the next person), perhaps this would be better as a directory?  Sort of a "look here and check out a street" kind of deal?

Either way, you've inspired me to pen some notes for entertainment purposes, something I haven't done for a few Glitch years.  And if you are down for a directory rather than a route, I'm willing to be on the list -- but no worries if not :)

  • I have lots of words up on my street. But I don't like adding routes (noute or otherwise) to my signpost.
That said, I'm a fan of this idea. Stop by to see one of jimothy's novelishes displayed somewhat proudly on my street.

  • Similar idea. Poetry Route of Ur. http://www.glitch.com/groups/RA5I2AICMT1323A/

ETA: Awesome to see all these literary routes spring up! Time to explore moar! :)

  • Way to pick up the ball, Jimothy!  Everyone currently on the route showed interest in being part of something in postings on the Jimothy's Novelishes group.

I'm not sure if this is best served as a route with signposts or a directory, but I do think it would be easier to organize and update as a directory-style route.  A directory-style route might also make it easier for visitors to take a break and pick back up again later (not that there's such a thing as too many words ;)

With that said, I'd be happy to add Aleph to my signpost (and will do so until this is decided), but unfortunately the fourth spot is currently Lx, who I can't take off and re-add elsewhere, so Aleph will have to be in spot 3.

  • \o/  Hooray! I have some words on a pole on my street, but I don't think anyone's ever read them...except me, of course, and that's kinda obligatory, y'know?

Would love to be added, if for no other reason than you used the words "faux-nadian", I'll even add s'more words, if it so pleases!

  • There's been a few attempts to get a library route of sorts started (http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/23496/). Maybe we can combine?

Here's the route so far, curated by Moehr Awesome.

    Diaveborn:   www.glitch.com/profiles/PUV...
    Miss Portinari:   www.glitch.com/profiles/PUV...
    Chilirlw:   www.glitch.com/profiles/PHV...

  • I wouldn't mind placing a tie-in on the library route to this sort of thing, maybe whoever is your trail head could be linked in if they want to also provide a link to the next stop on the library route as well (so the library route would allow visitors to hop off and visit your network). I'd be happy to swap a tie-in to your route via my signpost as well, since I think note routes are awesome!

The library route is a bit unique in that there's no group to join; it's all happening inside the world of glitch wherever possible. Plus this way you don't need an invite. The library route is more oriented towards gathering a collection of a particular style of writing (and having people submit stuff to be entered into the library, for those who don't want to tie a street in!) There's more space on the library route but I'll be cagey about who's getting added since I'd like to keep the focus on different kinds of writing.

I'd like to avoid having all the streets showcase poetry for instance, and instead pile all the poetry on one street :) This reduces load time and makes it easier to find what you're looking for. As an example, I've handed my own notes to other librarians on the route when they're not representative of my street's theme, glitch memoirs and bios.  We do have two poetry streets but that's mostly since there's an overwhelming amount of poetry on the loose in Ur.

That being said, anyone can submit things to post onto a street that's already on the route. Have a poem you want to include? Send it to AwesomeCardinal2000 or Miss Bobbit!

I'm encouraging members of the library route to hand out "Library Cards" to their collection. The cards are just TP scripts with a note saying what's in the collection that the script takes you to. Or these scripts can be left in random places out in Ur for the casual passerby to happen upon.

I am really looking for a short story street and a helpful glitch info reference guide street to get added in, if someone really wants to have a street on the route those would be good things to collect!

  • I'm a fan of Jimothy's proposed route!  I can't write  (I commission stuff from Jimothy sometimes -- it's great reading!), so I won't join.  But I'll visit the route and if you have resources I'll gather at the same time so you'll get some iMG.

  • This "guy" (just call me Fawkes?) is thrilled to be on a faux-nadianly named Noute Route!  That's why Jimothy's novelish A Delicate Matter is standing proud beside my sign, with another pole planted in anticipation of hosting a brand-splanking new novelish TBA soon (watch these spaces).

I'll point #4 to RawBean & leave directions with my many many route communicators.

  • i might!
    i wrote a story once.
i like the idea of library cards... not so sure about routes because i'm a recluse and don't necessarily want loads of folk tramping about my lawn. but i guess that defeats the purpose. i don't know.

but i would certainly visit the noute route!

  • I've been keeping a Gnome Art installation on my street. There are words involved since the gnomes have to say things.

I rotate the art installation when I can think of a new idea. Would my street qualify? I would understand if you would prefer to keep it to noutes, though.

  • Please add me to the noute route!  I'm mostly going to post random musings, maybe a few favorite quotes?  I couldn't decide on a resource route because I'm always changing my resources...but ever changing notes on the noute route sound perfect for me!  :D

Love the idea, thanks for putting this together!

  • Great idea, Saucelah! I think a directory would serve better - especially since people's signposts are so sacred if not preoccupied these days. When I create time later, I'll go add all of you to the list! Good to see so much interest! Hurray!
Posted 6 months ago by Jimothy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ Jimothy-I'll be happy to give you a something or other for a copy of the directory, and would be happy to post a copy of the directory on my street!

  • Add me, please!  I will happily post random poetry quotes.

  • I can't seem to get my note poles to sit on top of one another (so I can have a tall, medium and short sign appearing to be on one pole) like I've seen in other streets - does anyone know the trick?

  • Pandemian - place all the posts without moving from your current location, and alter the sizes one by one once they've been pinned down.
