Knitches need Sheep

Knitches (knitting Glitches) would like some sheep to raise, shear, dye wool, spin yarn and knit tiny leetle sweaters to give away to our friends. Pls thx.

If sheep are not available, or are perhaps not unusual enough for Ur, Angora rabbits, alpacas, and Angora goats (mohair) also make fine fiberlicious animals. Angora rabbits are funny looking furballs with faces and are combed or plucked rather than shorn. Angora goats have curly locks like Shirley Temple. Alpacas like to spit and also make yummy steaks. Goats and alpacas are good climbers and would make interesting additions to places like Groddle Heights.

It would be also nice if we could get some cotton-trees or crops so we could make some summertime clothes or some house decorations, like tablecloths, curtains and so on. :)

  • Hmmmm I didn't realize you knitters were advocating for knitting in Ur. It makes so much sense. Yes! Alpalcas and Angora goats! Doilies!

  • Just don't go shearing me, please. I like my pigtails ;)

  • I saw an image a long time ago on Kukubee's blog of a goat, but obviously it hasn't appeared in Ur.  Maybe it will come to pass some day!

  • This is an awesome idea, I would love to knit some fabulous stuff for my glitch and its friends. Doesn't have to just be sweaters. Socks, scarves and hats would all be cool additions. They don't have to just be vanity items either. Hand knit socks could give you a mood boost for a certain duration of time. Sweaters could give you an xp buff....
In any case, fiber bearing animals (or trees) please!

  • Also possible: Silkworms or cotton plants. or possibly another use for milk. according to wikipedia:
"Milk proteins have also been used to create synthetic fabric. Milk or casein fibre cloth was developed during World War I in Germany, and further developed in Italy and America during the 1930s.[10] Milk fibre fabric is not very durable and wrinkles easily, but has a pH similar to human skin and possesses anti-bacterial properties. It is marketed as a biodegradable, renewable synthetic fibre.[11]"

maybe to make it more durable you would mix the milk cloth with something?

  • Sheep please!

If they only can live in the outback looking places, I would be willing to relocate.  But that is about the only reason I'll leave the Meadow.

  • This will probably sound creepy (crawlie?) but I'd even go for spiders that gave me silk to knit. They could be associated with Friendly (my fav) because people knit as a way to give gifts to friends and neighbors in the same way he's the patron giant of cocktails (as a friendly gesture).

  • After mulling over it for some time, I came to the conclusion that I like the fact that wardrobe items exist 'outside' the game. You can't drop your clothes or give them away or anything like that. They are not game elements.

So, I don't feel players should be able to make clothing/wardrobe.

  • I'm all for fiber animals in Glitch. I think with all the other things we can create that even just creating knit animals and decorations would be awesome, and be great for donating to the shrines.

  • Cashmere goats too.

If any of you are in SL Ida Keen made some fabulous knitting needles with a lace scarf animation for biggies and for tinies.  I'm very fond of mine, it's how Ida and became friendly IRL.

Seriously though, being able to have sheep/goats/alpacas, shear, spin, and knit sweaters to give or sell is an awesome idea in-game.

  • More animals would be cool: some domestic for different product like u guys said: sheep/rabbits/goats for wool and related products.  Sheep-->wool-->fabric-->clothes-->in game clothing stores.
Or fairy-tale animals, or even something entirely new.

Anyway, luckily it is a user-only forum, so here I go to say. Some of my games I enjoy (or enjoyed in the past) are The Sims, Farm Frenzy, Alchemy. Well I actually don't play that many games, but take Farm Frenzy for instance, they have those bears coming in and eating your animals. isn't that cool.
Perhaps, some dangerous animals in the game can be cool too. Bears, lions, etc. Something that will make it more exciting. And if we take this idea further: what if a character has a camera and is able to take a picture of some wild animals for some bonus points?

Alpacas are most wicked animals ever it will be good to have them.

  • Funny video... What if you could have a knitting skill tree, and knit some or many of the wardrobe items? They'd be similar items, but knit. and you could only buy knit items from players, not from the wardrobe. There could be sort of a whole hand-made subculture in glitch....

  • I guess that's the New York girl in me... You have to know where to shop, and not just on line!

  • I'm not fussed about the knitting but I'd love to dye the sheep - much like naming piggies :)

  • Items that are created, like sweaters, don't have to be wearable wardrobe items, but more that they are things to make and give and collect. Like I could make some pancakes and then have my friends over for brunch. Or knit a bunch of sweaters and make like Mrs. Weasley and give them to everyone at Christmas.

  • I'm not sure of the plausibility of 'making' wearable clothes (although if the wardrobe was integrated with the game system it would be much easier, I suppose.  As an aside, I like the idea of the wardrobe being integrated so that clothing items could be sold, traded, given, etc) but even if the knitwear wasn't wearable, it would be nice if it had some sort of benefit like a mood boost or mood loss protection, etc.

  • Sweaters could work as protection in Wintry Place, even if the glitches don't actually put them on.

  • why not make sweaters and stuff for your piggies,if not on your glitch?

@Crucial: actually, to make silk in the MMORPG Mabinogi, one can collect cobwebs to weave into silk thread to weave into silk. so it would probably work out well here, too. maybe people's houses accumulate them over time?
