Will there be things to buy for credits besides clothes and appearance?

I am just curious, because while I would love to support the game, buying lots of clothes does not really interest me. A few, perhaps, but not hundreds of credits worth.

Will there be other things to buy? Specail animals? Extra telepotation slots? Faster learning?

I might like to decorate the OUTSIDE/public part of my house with something other than a gnome -- it would be nice to be able to personalize those.

So -- bottom line -- there is nothiing YET that I want to spend credits on, although I do like the subscriber series of options.

  • Stoot said something about a teleportation token something or another in another thread. I really, really hope - and believe the intent, is to never let player have a significant in-game advantage from credit items. Can't 'buy' a win so to speak. However, I really like the idea of being able to buy housing upgrades (they're external skins after all), or put another room on the house. Some kind of pet or something that has no game benefit but is nice to have would be cool too.

  • Here's what I was looking for, so you don't have to dig through the wiki:
    Teleportation Tokens: Rascalmom said "Are we honestly going to have to pay to teleport later? Yikes!" — Answer: no! You will not have to pay for teleports. The Teleportation skill is part of the game and use of it will just cost you energy as it does now. (In fact, adding new levels of Teleportation Skill is coming: you'll be able to set more than one teleport point and [probably some other stuff].)

    What we'll be adding is the ability to teleport to any arbitrary location in the game at any time, via the location pages (and probably some other means). You can do this for free, but it will take some amount of real world time to get there. During that time, you'll be able to chat, but not do other stuff in the game. Or, you can spend a token to make that teleport instant as well. The number of times you can do this per day will be limited (and there will be a "cooldown" period) so people with a lot of credits to spend won't have an unlimited advantage in getting around.

  • Wow, I actually explained that part pretty well last time!

    So, to the original question: the other things we have planned for Credits at this point include teleportation tokens and house & group hall decorations (yes, including external ones). Maybe, later, some other things like pets or better/easier-to-mange storage.

    Subscriptions will be along in the next few weeks.

    And to Travinara's earlier comment — "I really, really hope - and believe the intent, is to never let player have a significant in-game advantage from credit items" — that is the plan (and has been since the beginning). Not saying it's impossible to change it, but it definitely wouldn't happen any time soon and is very unlikely to ever happen at all.

  • and this is exactly what i love about tihs game. Thank you Tiny speck! You guys are amazing. i L-L-Love how you guys Dont do the whole-- You can play.. But the game is going to be crap-tastic unless you pay lots of money-- Which is what Makes me want to pay money to support this game-- The company and foundation for the game is amazing.

  • I'm not really interested in clothes either (my poor avatar is still the basic, lol).  I WOULD happily buy credits to enlarge my storage cabinet, garden, add another room to my house, change the outside of the house, plant flowers (or have window boxes)

    I've been REALLY curious about how Tiny Speck expects to support the game once it goes live.  Will there still be free play?  Will we have to have a subscription?  If so will there be different levels with different amounts of credits each month?

    i'd rather use tokens to buy or rent a special clubhouse for my buddies and i to hang out in and hatch plans.

    Ps extra storage and some cool landscaping or interior decorating packages would definitely make me spend for extra credits/tokens *hint hint*

  • I'm VERY interested in teleportation tokens, and I'd like to add a vote for being able to expand a house with credits. Seriously, I'd forgo junk food IRL for awhile for that.
    Not that I'm not already planning on buying some credits, but I'd buy a lot more if I could expand a house with them after this goes live.

  • I bought the credits with complete faith that I would not be disappointed.  :-)  I'm not one for changing my avatar... I just LOVE my upside-down box, but I wanted to show my support too, so I did buy the credits and will hold on to them for the future.  I also want to add that Stoot and all the devs answering question in and out of the game is just amazing and very much appreciated by this tiny Glitch.  It shows a level of caring and devotion (and amazing business sense) that is wonderful to see!  Thanks all and I can't wait to see what the future holds!

  • Very excited about what the future holds for us Glitchens!!!! And it is definately such an amazing game created and developed by even more amazing people!!! Will be buying credits next week and subscription as soon as available. This Glitchen is here to stay, and can't wait to play again!!! :D

    There will still be free play — subscriptions will be optional (and not in some sneaky way, but truly optional). And yes, there will be multiple tiers with different amounts of credits each month.

  • teleportation tokens are the kind if thing that would make me stop playing the game.

    the idea of throwing cash about just to "get around", and being forced into high speed spending situations is something I find abhorrent.

    there are lots of things I'd be willing to pay for, but not teleportation.

    dopiaza's comment truly puts things into perspective for me, where spending cash becomes necessary for impromptu community engagement. throwing parties should be simple and easy and free for anyone. I don't want to invite someone to a party only to have them say "sorry, can't make it, low on funds this month".

    abhorrent, would probably quit over.

  • to put that into perspective, something I would like to pay for is a monthly spend on a "teleportation beacon" that would allow me to teleport other people to a location at will [given their consent, of course].

    someone with such a beacon would be able to make a non impulse, planned purchasing decision that would enable easy gatherings without $$$ being first and foremost.

    I think the devs like the idea of encouraging impulse spends because the less we think the more we will spend, but I don't like any companies that operate on that basis.

  • A teleportation token lets you set one permanent teleportation point on top of what the future skill set gives as I understand it, and I probably don't.

  • As the game world expands, it needs more subways and more teleportation options.  Being able to set just two TP points would be a vast improvement over the single point we can currently set, especially if we could set them by clicking on a map instead of first travelling to them.

    But paying for instantaneous movement will certainly give some players an advantage over others, especially when it comes to projects (for example, people who could TP to the project instantly could finish the ingot quest, while others would have difficulty doing so).  I'd much rather see money spent on decorative items which truly have no impact on gameplay.

  • tingly, if that's how it is going to work, I wouldn't mind it. but that's not how it is going to work.

    stoot's original use case for the tokens was clicking a link to a party sent through twitter, and dropping some dough to get there immediately.

    The tokens are being built with the potential for abuse in mind. The TinySpeck crew has a wonderful view of the gaming world and how think / interact with our environments.... a time requirement, not being able to interact with objects (I assume that also includes the vendors running street projects), a limit on the times per day, and the typical cool down... and that's provided 'arbitrary location.. via the locations page' doesn't translate to 'random place'.

  • trav, I don't think there is anything wonderful about it. in glitch, time is currants, and time spent teleporting has an opportunity cost.

    so there won't be an "unlimited" advantage. doesn't mean there won't be a large advantage.

    I personally care a lot more about the impulse buy, pushing spending in the middle of gameplay thing .. but let's get real here. unless the cooldown is multiple game days long, instant teleportation will provide a significant in game advantage, especially as the world enlarges.

  • @Striatic  don't forget that there will be higher levels of skill learning for teleportation that will allow more than one teleport spot.  That skill alone will get you to most spots... for free.  And since there is no really "winning" to this game... there is no true advantage anyway.

    @trav   totally agree that TS has a uniquely wonderful perspective of game play

  • There kinda is winning where street projects only give trophy pieces to the top contributors.  There are also leaderboards, but relatively few will care about those.

  • umm. there certainly is an advantage even if there isn't a definite "victory" state for the game.

    there's no definite victory state for life, either, but increased resources certainly creates advantage over others.

    if there is no true advantage, then there would be no point in buying the tokens. of course there is going to be an advantage to buying tokens. let's not kid ourselves here.

    all tiny speck is doing with the limits is trying to ensure that they don't alienate customers by having the game feel like there is no point in playing unless you buy loads of teleportation tokens. if you don't think TS will push that limit, either now or in the future, I don't think you're thinking through what tiny speck is or what their goals are.

  • My token purchases would be to ease a grind.  The prenatal game hasn't done much to fire my competitive juices.  I come out of each reset planning to burn rubber, but 5 minutes into it finds me getting social and it's all over.

  • Errrr  striatic... I think we all know TS is a business... which is why many of us have no problem supporting that business by buying credits.
     
    I'm also a glass full kinda gal.... so I don't think I see the game the same way as the more serious minded players... It is what it is and how you chose to make it. 

    Some like to play on the more competitive plane and try to get all the achievements and trophies & others like to just walk around and pet, hug... stuff like that.  That is what makes this game great. 

    So, I guess, yes, if teleporting to several areas a few times a day might make a difference to those who, like Tingly said, are striving for more trophies.  Personally, I think the credits are only going to enhance certain areas of gameplay, regardless of its clothing, teleporting, or whatever else TS creates.  I'm not going to get the tiniest bit upset if they 'up the ante' on any of these things.  I will continue to play until it is outside my means... Se la vie

    I wouldn't compare the attributes of this game to real life though ;)  That would get downright silly! :p
    (side note:  sometimes hard to read intent and inflection in writing, I don't know you of course, so my perspective when I read your post is that perhaps you're taking this too seriously... sorry if I'm wrong!! )

  • tingly, the game is hardly pre-natal at this point. i don't understand why you keep pushing that narrative.

    we're going to have paid-subscriptions in a matter of weeks, and the intended launch date was this time last year.

    while an MMO is rarely ever complete, clearly glitch is well on its way to launch.

    unsure what you're expecting in terms of revolutionary gameplay changes. that's not the phase the game is in right now.

  • It was a quick way of saying, "as the game is so far," such as your saying that MMO's are never finished. Turned out not to be so quick.

    If tokens mean that casual players will find certain things inaccessible, that can be a problem.  But on the other hand, Tiny Speck may come out ahead.  There are lots of things in KOL that you can't really do without spending $100/year.  I'm not gonna fork over that kinda cash.  My completionist urges cringe a little and I have fun doing the things that I can do.  They make bucks off the competitives without driving me out.  Free or low spending players being inconvienced a little in Glitch should be good for business.  Can't get some badge, well ok, there are 400 others I can get.  People won't give their cash unless they get some sort of advantage whether it be towards resources, decor, storage, grinds, clothes, chocolate, etc.

  • I don't think anyone is unwilling to pay tiny speck for all their obviously hard work. I'm certainly willing to, and plan on buying a subscription when it is made available.

    That isn't the point. The point is *how* they choose to make their money, are if it is by pushing impulse spends in mid gameplay, I won't like it.

    My 2 cents: Please consider introducing "better/easier-to-manage storage" before house decorations. Though I have many bags, I still need to use the floor and yard to store items. I couldn't possibly think of adding decorations until a better solution is offered to manage items, such as allowing bags to go into cabinets or adjusting the price of bigger bags or offering giant bags for credit purchase.

  • Rachel2635, we'll definitely be introducing better/easier to manage storage before house decorations, and not as a paid thing: we know it is too cumbersome right now and we'll make it easier for everyone as a core part of the game and only later consider introducing some additional enhancement which would require credits.

    That is how it'd work most of the time (i.e., we expect most teleportation token sales will be for teleporting other players to a given location.)

    That's pretty insulting. Is there something specific we've done that gives you the impression that we'll be trying to deceive or manipulate people? We feel really strongly that we want to avoid any approach which makes every moment of gameplay seem like an a la carte purchase decision and we've said that many times.

    And, since you brought up our goals as some shadowy mysterious thing that people should be afraid of, let me tell you specifically what they are, cut and paste straight out of our wiki (and unchanged since the day the company was founded):

    • to allow members of the team to execute their craft artfully and at their fullest potential
    • to generate significant financial success for investors, employees, and other team members
    • to create something fun and wonderful for all those who play it

    Not that scary, I hope.

    On this one, you are just plain wrong: the team size has doubled over the last five months because we've finally gotten the underlying technology platform and toolset where we want them to really start cranking on the game itself. Of course, a lot of work will also go into supporting a larger group of players, continuing to polish the bits that we already have, etc., but the rate of change in the core game will continue to increase.
