Changes in Attitudes

Glitch is something special. We trust each other, and are willing to help out a neighbor just because they asked. We're not in a rush to screw each other over, and solving each others problems seems to be almost as popular as solving our own.

When the official launch comes today, things may change, there may be new people who don't quite know just how special Glitch is. Whatever happens, lets never let what we have here, right now die.

I love all of you.

  • i'm scared of the same thing. there's nothing really we can do about it except interacting the same way we do now and hope that new glitches develop the same attitude.

  • Love the sentiment, also a little bit scared about "times a-changin'." I hope all the new players we get are as totally rad as everyone in beta, and I hope the sense of the community is just contagious enough to pass along.

  • I don't see any possibility for the pre-launch community to survive, without having some kind of space apart from the masses, and still intertwined with the game. The best solution I can think of is a group. Is there a group already for the pre-launch community? It might not need to exclude new players, but there would need to be some thought about how to manage its growth without losing the best of whatever makes it whatever it is.

  • Let's just have our own splinter server :)

I do enjoy playing with new people to though, so I'd have to have 2 chars.

  • I'm also a little bit scared, but I'm excited to share the community with all the newbies!  (And hopefully some of my in-person-friends!)

  • Nothing to be afraid of - just play as we have from the beginning, and the new folks will fit in with us. Glitch is contagious!

  • Best way to keep the love going is to lead by example. Show them what Glitchens are all about. They'll catch onto the kindness and trust. MeherMan is right- Glitch is contagious!

  • I'm bringing this up again because it seems very timely now.

As I see it, what will happen to the fellowship(s) that developed here before launch depends on how much initiative there is from the people in it (them), to keep it (them) going in this challenging new environment. It won't just happen by itself, or by pining for it or wishing for it. It will take time and sacrifice and systematic effort. With all the talk I saw before about what a wonderful and unique thing it was, I'm surprised to see so little sign of anyone doing anything about it besides talking.

  • dude, it's been like....four days?  Speaking for Greeters, we have been so busy greeting eighty buhmillion people there has not been time to mindmap the production schedule!

This is what I think.  It's going to be nigh impossible to bring the beta culture into the post-launch culture.  I tried to form a spinach conga line today and I got two (beta) takers. Everyone else thought I was mental.

I think the best we can offer, especially in this current madness, is being awesome to people, giving 'em stuff, helping with questions, uncontrolled hugging.  I think we should leave it to them to re-invent spinach congas, food art, the anti-purple league, all that stuff...and call it what they will.

  • ++ Nanookie. And for this post. We CAN & WILL continue to expand Glitch community with FUN & Craziness. We are but a tiny (pun? ) microcosum of the world...

Hummm we're becoming a Big City. Stay out of Downtown

  • Thank you, Kai. That is really very kind, selfless, charitable, thoughtful... truly! So many helped me in Beta, that I can never thank or even remember, and we should carry on the tradition upon Glitch was hatched ...

  • @Nanookie:

I'm not expecting the greeters to make it happen!

"It's going to be nigh impossible to bring the beta culture into the post-launch culture."

I agree. *Nigh* impossible. I'm just curious to see how deep was the love for that culture, that I saw so many people professing.

I think what people loved was the intangible part of it, the flavor of it, and that doesn't depend on any specific audiovisual components or activities.

"I think the best we can offer, especially in this current madness, is being awesome to people, giving 'em stuff, helping with questions, uncontrolled hugging.  I think we should leave it to them to re-invent spinach congas, food art, the anti-purple league, all that stuff...and call it what they will."

Exactly, and you've just shown me that some people *are* doing something about it.

  • @stoot barfield and @Nanookie: I feel like it's already starting (again), and I also feel like those who aren't on-board with the friendly social aspect won't be a problem that long- at some point it'll either become no fun to be at variance with everybody, or they'll get bored and mosey on. Neither's a giant loss, really.

  • Hi People, I'm new to the game. Only been playing for a few days. And I have to say this topic made my day. I'm really, really enjoying this game. Even the endless mining is addicting. Its nice to know that this game has people who are so in love with it and everything they bring to the table. I know I'm just beginning to touch base on all this game has to offer and I hope to someday figure out what a spinach conga is.

Take care! If you see me in game hug away and I'll share the love :)

  • Made you my buddy Lord Graham of Eli...you wouldn't be any relation to Lord Bacon-O would you?  I heard all you gentry were sort of related.

"I'm just curious to see how deep was the love for that culture, that I saw so many people professing."

I wouldn't speculate on the quality and quantity of everyone's else's love for the game, but I do know that for me the beta experience was like a series of super compressed love affairs, with me glued to the game during tests.  I wonder if the same intensity can be sustained by people who are only going to play a little bit at a time now...and how well they can impart what was so amazing during beta.

I guess what I am saying is...I think all the cool things that we think we "discovered" are going to get re-discovered by other players, because we weren't the most creative ones down the pike...just the first.  Even during beta I have seen that happen, which is great!  I just need a new approach to the game that incorporates all those new people. Wow...maybe I DO need to mindmap a production schedule...

Also, I love all the loveyness but too much kumbaya makes my teeth feel gritty.  I need a fart joke, stat!
