Housing Diversity: less zoning, more access

I moved to Alakol to test out whether my real-world self would be happier with far vistas rather than the forest.

One thing I noticed there is that there are fewer newbies to interact with, and I find that to be a Bad Thing.  I'd like to have neighbors with much more variety in skills and background.

Perhaps in the future, there could be more housing mixtures within an area.  So that, Islan Interval with its 25 housing blocks, could have a few small houses intermixed with the 50k ones.  It would be nice to move up in housing without leaving the neighborhood, and it would be nice to have newbie neighbors to buddy up with when they can only afford 1k or 2k homes.  My block might have one of them, with two 30k and two 50k homes, for example.

I don't like gated communities IRL, and I don't like age-segregated housing IRL.  How about some of that same diversity here?

  • I'm not sure it would make much difference. I've lived in a variety of places now, and I'm not sure I've ever actually bumped into any of my neighbours. Most of the interaction I do with folk takes place out in the world. The housing streets are always deserted - people don't hang out there, they just pass through quickly on their way to more interesting places. Mixing different types of players in the same street isn't likely to change that.

  • I came up with the idea when I started to leave food from a cooking frenzy at doorsteps in the neighborhood.  I've also reached the point in the game where I'm creating newbie bags from the small bags.

Someone has been leaving stuff at my place, too.  It seems to be quite a friendly neighborhood, and I'd like to gift newbies easily, as well as my high-end neighbors.
