Why feed a piggy 3 of anything? You only get 1 thing in return.

I heard that I'm supposed to feed a piggy 3 of whatever (crop) to get a good, hi-yield plop, and then get a package of seeds. But even tho' the little square plot shows four seeds have been planted when you click "plant," the actual yield is just *one* plant/crop. I think I'd be better off trekking on over to my local Gardening Supply vendor to get seeds, because at least I won't be throwing away 3 seeds at a time for nothing.

Well?

Zucchini (which I feed the pigs) yields 23 per plot, a bit over 400 out of a 15 plot garden.  I feed 45 zucchini to a pig to get 15 seeds enough to re-plant the same 15 plot garden.

Pumpkins are a special case.  1 pumpkin per plot.  1 pumpkin seed per plot.  I don't know how many pumpkins it takes to get seeds, but I don't recall it being worth it.

  • If I'm not mistaken, harvesting most crops gives more than 1. Pumpkins are the exception.
ETA: apparently Walruz was typing his much more detailed reply as I was typing my little one. And it takes one pumpkin to get one seed which grows one pumpkin, so probably better to buy those.

  • Yup, especially when your skills creep up - the plots show one item but your actual harvest is always more.

  • Herbs are the other exception. If your herbology skill is anything above first level, you're most likely going to get two seeds per one flower (where the piggy wants three flowers to give you one seed).

  • Usually I get a seed packet that when planted gets me 8 or so of the crop. So the return is fine.

If the math isn't working for you (lower skill levels?) you can buy seeds from a vendor, or from other glitches. Obviously since other glitches are selling seeds, it must be working out fine for them the way it is. Continue to learn skills for improved crop growing rewards and don't give up.

  • Wow. I didn't know you could feed a piggy for herb seeds. I wouldn't have ever thought of it, because of shucking.

  • Excellent information! Thanks!

Another question: What am I supposed to do with all the corn, cucumbers, potatoes, tomatoes, parships, zucchini, carrots, etc. that I have harvested? Take them to a Produce vendor and try to sell them? Donate all of them at shrines? Place them on a floating rock somewhere and hope somebody comes along and eats them?

    ???

  • Well if you sell anything, sell to a Tool vendor, they'll give you more currants

What you do with your produce depends what you want to achieve

    Donate for imG and levelling
    Sell for currants
    Eat raw for some energy
    Cook for some iMG
Eat cooked for more energy than raw
Sell cooked for more currants than raw
Place on floating rock for philanthropy

    Activate broccoli for iMG
Activate spinach to jump very high

Use potatoes or corn in your still for Hooch

  • Cook them all up!

You can get a variety of cooking tools from a Kitchen Tools vendor - or you can craft cooking tools with a Tinkertool, but you'd need Tinkering 4 at the very least to do that.

You will need a number of cooking skills, but the first ones don't take too long to learn. And cooked meals give more energy, sell for more and can be donated for more favour than raw ingredients.

You can also use potatoes and corn to make hooch - you'll need a still for that.

  • Currently, the highest level recipe in the game requires 4 different crops. Many players use this as a cash crop, crafting industrial quantities of the stuff (and getting a healthy chunk of iMG for crafting it also)

  • As others have said, pumpkins are the only exception to this. Buy pumpkin seeds.
