Group Creator Total Admin Rights Over Their Group

Who is with me here? If you create a group and make someone an administrator either accidentally or purposefully of the group there should be a way to change this. If you are the creator of the group you should be able to edit all member types and posts no matter who posts them especially if that glitch can't follow the group's expectations. Lets say a glitch is accidentally made an admin - that glitch then proceeds to purposefully change the way the creator wants to run the group, posts discussions unrelated to the group's theme, changes the details, confuses things, or just removes glitches from the group... currently there is no way to change member types once they are an admin or top level member. People who create groups often don't know this at first and I have seen groups recreated because of this. Groups should work more like"Forums". Not only would it be nice for group creators to have total admin rights over their groups... it would also be cool if members could "love" and "reply" to group posts in the same way Glitches can with user updates and snaps.  I don't know how well this idea is received. Please let me know what you think. Let's keep this comment thread going. The more glitches who comment the longer this thread will stay open. If this thread goes 30 days without a comment it will close... let's demand more rights and stinky cheese.. oh and pie! .... please!

  • You can do this already by creating a member category and then selecting which group features you want them to be able to use.

Instead of promoting someone to admin, just create the 'co-admin' membership category, and check all the boxes that are relevant.  You're still in charge, and your co-admins can do everything you decide to let them do.

  • Windborn - yes I know this is possible to make a member type that is lower than Admin say "Manager". As long as the member type is lower than administrator, creators can edit the member type, however for those people who "accidentally" made someone an administrator there is no way to change/edit their member type to another lower member type. There is also no way to delete/edit everyone's posts or have control over all discussions if you are the group creator which if there was a way, it would be way cool!

  • I agree with you - there should be a way for the group owner to change permissions for all group members...

What if someone is asked to be a page administrator based on the group's trust of that person, and then there is a falling out between that person and the rest of the group? Is it reasonable that the group has to live with the possibility that the person who still has administrative rights can basically trash the group, if they so desire?

I don't think so. Give the page creator the right to make those changes.

  • Also, you can't give co-admins certain awesome powers that only admins have. E.g. changing info and such.

  • So, to prevent accidents, you want the "creator" position  never to be able to add another person as "creator"?  There could only ever be one "creator" and anyone else promoted to assist with the group would have some other designation, like "admin"?

So that all groups would always be required to have a single person who was more powerful than anyone else in the group, even if several people got together to start the group.

If I am the "creator" and decide I don't want to be active in the group any more, what would happen to the group? If I leaveGlitch, is the group deleted?  If I leave, would someone else automatically become the "creator"?  Or would TS staff have to decide who gets promoted?

  • The same thing as happens right now - the group ownership passes to the person who has been there the longest who is also in the highest ranking member designation.

  • I did not say no one else in the group should never have administrator rights im just saying the person who created that group should have right to decide if they want to give or take away administrator rights. The "Creator" should have total "admin" rights over "everyone". Understanding of how forum groups/permissions are configured helps with this.  Currently as it stands once and admin always an admin. The creator has no ability to change this back once someone has been given the member type administrator. People may come up with ideas together but the way groups are set up now there is only one "Creator" - that creator then invites people to join and changes member types accordingly - people who are keen on the creator's vision and willing to help make that vision happen usually join up - hopefully if a creator gives someone administrator rights they won't go mucking about and changing things up.

I just watched an entire group break up and reassemble because of a difference of opinion and confusion in the way the group should be run. After the creator gave someone administrator status that administrator proceeded to go against what the creator envisioned frustrating and confusing most involved and there was nothing the creator could do about it accept leave and re-create a new group. What would you propose in this situation? The creator should have right to delete/moderate all posts of all members much like I have the right to moderate comments on my snaps... It would have been much easier if the creator could have changed the person's member type back to non-administrator and moderated their posts as necessary rather than having to re-create and ask everyone to re-join.
