  • they say things when you pull the strings on them, thats about it.  they mostly just sit there.

  • Do they have limited uses? (people selling the dolls claim their dolls to be in excellent condition, never used, etc...)

  • No, that's just a bit of fun advertisement. They don't lose any of their properties.

  • If you are lucky, the Rube will offer you a doll in trade.  It's never happened to me but I am hopeful.

  • I got two that way - frequent use of Rubeweed essence is recommended.

  • Really?! :O Do Rubes still trade dolls? What kind of item did they trade it for?

  • Mainly just collectables... I focused on trying to get them once I was well-established.  Kinda like getting rare cubimals!

  • It has been a while since I got my dolls from the Rube - I think it was for high-end tools, possibly a cauldron.

  • I got my doll less than 2 weeks ago from the Rube in exchange for EHSP :)

  • Nearly ten months of play... never offered a doll in trade by the Rube. *sigh*

  • I don't often see the Rube, but when I do, I'm still offered mostly crap trades. (Stay thirsty, my friends.)

  • I got my Wittgenstein from the Rube in trade for my cauldron. I've heard other people report full jars of EHSP  or fecundity powder, and other fancy tools.

Most of the time, though, he really does just want to trade junk. :/

  • you can improve your rube trades a great deal by dropping any bags of food you are carrying.  I have not experimented further, but dropping bags of low level items before you talk to him seems to help a lot.  If you don't move, they are locked to you and can be easily picked up again.

  • You can get:
your value is too rich for me
from the rube if you don't carry any low end items. I've had the 3 dolls but it took me over 3 months of calling the rube every single chance I got when playing, each game day. I must have had over 1000 rube trades to get there. IT CAN BE DONE!
He traded me for high end tools and I think a diamond.

  • I think I may try the bags of high end items for a bit and just wander looking for the Rube. I have tried high end tools, I have tried cubi's but have never been offered the dolls yet...

  • Both of my Rube-bestowed dolls were Grand ol Grinder trades. It took many, many times seeing him (thanks to essence) before he offered them to me. Don't give up!

  • Using essence of rubeweed, I've gotten a full set in the past week:

<<I'll give you an Ayn Rand Doll for one of your Splendid Spindle. OK?>>
    about 3 hrs ago

<<I'll give you a Friedrich Nietzsche Doll for one of your Ace of Spades. OK?>>
    yesterday

<<I'll give you a Ludwig Wittgenstein Doll for one of your Crystalmalizing Chambers. OK?>>

  • Dolls have two verbs: Pull string, which causes the doll to "speak" one of several phrases (really just appears as a chat bubble if the doll is outside your inventory, or in local if it's inside your inventory), and Pick up/Drop.

(While not mentioned in the OP, Glitchmas Yeti works the same as the other three dolls)

Funny tidbit about the limited uses thing. One of the yeti's phrases is "REQUIRES BATTERIES" and when I first got it, I did start to get worried that it does break at some point (it doesn't).

  • Ayn has an extra verb.  But it's also just a novelty.
