GlitchRemote Released!

I just released a beta of GlitchRemote.com
I will be adding a lot more functionality, but here is the first version...

You don’t need to login to use it, but if you do, it will tell you how close you are to each street, and which is the closest street with the “item” you are looking for.
it is designed to work on all browsers including those used in Tablets, so you can use it in another “tab”, another window/monitor, in your tablet, and click/touch the item you need.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

  • Looks amazing but I have one concern...........
    Request for permission to
    • Modify your character Change wardrobe, vanity, name, status updates, etc.
Hmmmm, Can you assure me there is no need for concern over this?

  • Hi
I'm only using the API to access the "actual street" where you are, nothing more.
The reason I used the write permission (that's why it shows you that message) is because I will add methods to create auctions (manually).

I’m not modifying your character wardrobe, vanity, status or any other thing.

    Thanks!!

  • Looks beautifully done. There is a drinks vendor and a shop too.

  • I'd suggest that you only request read permission most of the time, and then request write later, if/when someone desires to use that feature, as suggested in the API documentation.

Then people won't need to be concerned when they're just using the read only parts.

  • This is awesome! Extraordinarily helpful and aesthetically pleasing! Thank you so much for putting this together! >>pins tab<<

  • Thanks everyone!!!

Done! I just changed it, so now it only asks for read access. If you already give it write access, use the sign out option in the page, refresh your browser, and then sign in again. or just keep signed in, anyway I'm not using the write option...

    Thanks!

  • Very, cool...like the heat maps...

However, since there are no real separate maps for the Ilmenski Caverns and Deeps, shouldn't the resources that are in those locations stack on the Uralia map on the Global map?  It doesn't show a proper heat signature for the rocks over Uralia right now on the Global map to compensate for the Caverns/Deeps being located underneath the island...

Also, are the heat map calculations relative to what is currently displayed or calculated across all the resources for all of Ur for when you drill down?  Trying to decide which would be more useful to me...(sorry, I work with geospatial analysts and these are the types of discussions we end up having when we are trying to display something).

Also, it seems the heat maps are created based on that resource (which would be a bit relative), vice based on a standard across all of Ur.  Again, not sure which I'd prefer, but I think the relativeness of the heat maps are throwing me off a bit, especially when it comes to the vendors...two tool vendors out of all the number of vendors should, for me, at most glow green in Uralia and the Caverns.  However, they are hot red.  I guess as long as I understand your algorithm, I can adjust.

I do love that you include Doors and Keys on your maps...quite interesting.  Will definitely bookmark this site for yet another great tool invented by the players of Glitch...

And yes, I will admit, I'm one of the biggest geeks/dorks playing this game.  Can't code, but I work with a bunch of devs IRL...and yea, they hate it when I give feedback too ;)  Happy New Year!!

  • This may be a dumb question...but what exactly is a heat map?

  • Really cool ajax action indeed ;)
The design is very glitchy as well

    Now about the suggestions,
-It would be nice to stay logged in for each visit
For example Zog's tools won't ask you to log in everytime to find stuff
-Possibility to click region maps, just like the world map
    -How about a full-size map option/layout?
-The bg image is moving sometimes when you hover the world map
-Some map resources available there if ya need some

  • Nice work UXRoot!  I especially like the interaction with the user's current position and the fact that you have entered the special items which aren't available through the API.

@Mystify heat maps are a graphical way of indicating relative values.  Some area with a higher value (density of a specific resource in this case) shows red and an area with lower density shows blue.  The spectrum runs from blue (lowest) to red (highest).
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heatmap

This is a really powerful way to represent data such as this.  It's the same technique I use on Glitch Atlas when you search; great minds and all that! :)

  • Very nice app! I have used it and have only found one drawback that is not a bug.

What would be your opinion of adding subway locations? I was thinking of making TP scripts to streets in between subways and mailboxes.

  • This is awesome, and I'll probably be keeping it open when I play glitch from now on.
One small thing though, I like the idea of having it on another device next to me while I play, but I don't own a tablet. It would be nice if the layout could bunch things together more for a smaller screen for a smart phone.
Still a great tool I will be using.

  • @b3achy You are right, I think the best way will be to just add two small islands in the global/world map to show the Ilmenskie Caverns and Deeps regions. Because these two places will be close to Uralia, the "heat" will propagate and show a lot more "red" in that place. Each map has it's own max/min values to represent red/green depending of the values that are listed at the left of that map (or the regions numbers in the world map).
but, if the max value is 2 (or 1) I will use orange/yellow as the "hot" color, not red. what do you think?

@here LOL! I wrote the domain but didn't add it as a link… thanks!

@Mystify as Janitch said, a heat map is the best way to show in a map, which places has an specific resource (using green color) and then changes to orange/yellow and red depending how many of this resource it has… or how "hot" that place is.

@Lemo it should keep you logged in on each session. which browser are you using? do you have any addon that could be deleting cookies after each session?. as soon at the session starts, I use the API to call Glitch servers and verify that you are already logged. it can take a few seconds to do that.
thanks for the suggestions, I will add the click region maps, I need to optimize it more for mobile/tablet browsers, I'm using javascript to check if that area of the map has a street, and having more than 30 points slows it down.
A "big" map will be useful, if you can zoom in/out, it will take time to implement that, I'm keeping it for another version :)
Yes the background image is giving me more problems than anything, supporting all browsers is always a problem. I wanted the bg image to be all the time at the bottom of the page, but that completely freeze some mobile browsers. Thanks for the map links.

@Janitch Thanks, I wanted to add more info on each item, like… if you click in an specific key… to show that there is a door associated to that item. or if you click on a vendor, to show which items it sells, or the opposite, if you search for an item… shows which vendor sells it… but I need more time to finish it. Indeed heat maps is "the" way to shows data on a map. There are some libraries to show them (using flash) in 3D!! I tested the Google 3D chart map, but I will use it optionally (it doesn't work on mobile browsers :(

@Rook I will add subway locations! In the items groups and support it in the "actual street", I just saw it is not detecting the real street when you are in the station…
the other thing to add about the subway is, I'm showing how many blocks away you are from some place… but what if you want to use the subway? I need to calculate how far you are, walking and by using the subway!

    Thanks!!

  • @Xain I'm working in a web version for mobiles too. it doesn't show all the info... but that way it can be used in smaller screens (but you will need an HTML5 browser to use it... most smartphones supports that)

  • Love it! Ranks right up there with Zog's site (http://zoggish.appspot.com/locations). =)
