Other types of mining rocks and gemstones.

As a geology nerd (amateur status), I'm hoping that the array of types of rock to mine and possible gemstones to attain from mining will become more extensive and diverse. Does anyone else hope for the same? If so, what do you want to see? Here are some things I'd be looking forward to, haha:

ROCKS TO MINE:
Volcanic (something black-ish and porous with little streaks of lava)
Coral (probably something by the sea, or if underwater exploration is ever a possibility...)
Glacier (in the arctic or icy areas, and chunks of which last a limited time in your inventory)
Sandstone (in more deserty canyon areas, maybe)

GEMSTONES:
Amethyst
Emerald
Pink Diamond
Molybdenum
Obsidian
Mystic Fire (a type of Topaz that is generally lab-synthesizes but it's just too cool and this is an imaginary world, after all.)
And maybe fossils?

ALSO! I just thought of a new area that could be like the Glitch version of Mount Olympus. A place of ruin where legend states the giants once convened. Old pillars could be mined and reveal some sort of cool items (and could regenerate like rocks). Just a thought.

  • +1

We definitely need more variety of land around here, especially if you see the fb photos.

  • Hoping to hear additional opinions, lol. And yeah, I'm obsessed with Mt. Olympus! Lol.

  • Great ideas!  Would be great to have more types of things to mine and added variety to gems received.
Side note: Molybdenum can be made by smelting. http://www.glitch-strategy.com/wiki/Molybdenum_Ingot

  • +1 Cerulean, we need more sparklies and more uses for them!  I love Jade, and would love to mine for gold/silver/copper ores. :)

  • fossils and archeology as an outgrowth of mining sounds especially interesting.

wouldn't mind assembling a dinosaur skeleton in the old guild house / communal home.

  • I think coral would be an awesome thing, especially if it's implemented in a pseudo-realistic sense... as in collecting it from a dead reef as opposed to mining, or perhaps sifting it from beach wash up. I'd love to see obsidian or onyx... and I'm a big big fan of opals... but my dearest wish is to have a purpose for gems other than donate/sell. My mortar and pestle at home is made from marble. I would love to see the effect of a diamond tipped pick or a ruby edged shovel, before I'd like to see more 'stuff'.

No thankyou on the Jewellery part,I have seen enough of this for years at home and hubbys store.I like mining and the sparky is quite fun to get diamonds from for me.

  • Cerulean such clever ideas - I say yes yes yesw to all of the above................ Thank you

  • Like the idea, but I feel this way about most of the things in game...more mining options, more smelting options (would love to make gold), more alchemy options - more compounds to make with the elements, more gas options - combos to do things with (fill some balloons with helium), more recipes, etc.

  • Yeah, I completely agree with you, b3achy. I'm looking forward to seeing how everything expands in its options, haha. And thanks to everyone else!

I do like the jewelry idea. But even cooler would be the implementation of magic or something where we could change jewelry into talismans or make neat wands or something. Wands that we could use to heal trees and stuff, ahaha.

  • +1 I like all of your ideas for rocks and gems Cerulean :D
I also wish gems had more uses.

  • Very cool ideas, Cerulean! +1! Also +1 for fossils as an extension of mining (re: striatic)!

  • Thread revival! I still think it would be really neat to see additional types of rocks in the game. I was reminded of this thread by the red element thread. :)

  • Opals.... there have to be Opals.

  • Ohhh, I like the idea of mining and then getting fossils. Neat.

  • Maybe you could mine pigments... and then use the colours to make paints (new block making tool for paints). Then you could paint your house or have different coloured animals etc. Just a thought.

  • Love rocks in real life...my house is full of them. But like Trav said above, I'd like to see more uses for these things than just sell/donate. The jewelry idea is a good one. Some metaphysical attributes to the gems and crystals perhaps.

  • I had a dream about mining different rocks in Glitch--translucent crystalline looking ones with different colors. I have too much Glitch on the brain.

  • I think some variation on frakking would be hilarious. Unpredictable mood deflation? Environmental effects? Weird (and maybe sometimes disappointing discoveries.) Joint work? Permits?

    YES.

  • Great idea Shepherd, we could then all use all that red powder up, giggle.  Love the idea

  • +1 to this general idea...and to frakking, Ingrid! LOLLLLL   I think frakking should yield unexpectedly large returns, but with environmental effects — just because I want more variables added to the Glitch ecosystem.  Not quite sure what those effects would be, though...rocks aren't typically situated around trees!

  • +1000 to fossils!  how cool would that be.

I was just up on a volcano crater and there's all kinds of rocks there: basalt, pumice, lots of crystals, old lava flows, ect.  SO much fun could be had with a volcano in Glitch.

  • Don't forget lots and lots of hot lava.

Of course there are lots of rocks around trees!  Check out Lake Tahoe.

  • Excellent! Mt. Olympus - make it so, devs.
Posted 16 months ago by MeherMan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Indeed! I just realized that Molybdenum wouldn't necessarily work as a mined resource since you have to rub ingots or whatnot to get it already. But still. Other gemstones would be incredible.

  • +1 to everything mentioned. There is so much potential to mining and the associated crafts! I just know there is a lot of awesome, coming soon, to a rock/mine near you :D
