So clearly I need more sleep and you lovely lovely people need to stop encouraging me to do things involving Glitch and rhyming.
I've been working on Ancient Lands-related badges lately, not just the bandits and dust traps but also quion completion and paper trees, and I noticed for the first time how most of the paper trees in the Ancient Lands have names, and they're all named for Stoot: Stoot's Ninth Paper Tree, Stoot's Paper Tree the Third, etc. (Maybe it's new or maybe I just never noticed.) There's even one in Xangala on Hazy Gate 6 called Stoot's Own Paper Tree. So I decided to write him and it a thank-you note. I left it at the tree, of course, but since people actually seem to like my craziness and I loved the poetry-off that happened last time, I figured I'd post it here, too.
To Stoot's Own Paper Tree
We thank thee, laden down with paper rolls
For those few sheets you carefully give up
As we pass by, those few of us who hold
Along our normal flight to pay you what
Is due to you: a gentle-handed pet;
A thorough watering with sweetest dew;
And only then should we attempt to get
A tiny paper harvest off of you.
Sometimes we're forced to pass as swift pursuit
Of fearsome Bandits leads us to depart
But we return in time to tend your root
When time we have for paper-centric art.
I thank you, paper tree on which I dote,
For fruit on which I write this grateful note.
