Chrome/Flash Problem ... plz help

Hello ~

Recently, I had some issues with Firefox, so my husband suggested that I switch to Chrome (he swears by it). So I decided to give it a try. I downloaded it and started using it. And then I noticed the problem. Flash was not working on Chrome. I get messages saying I need to install the most recent version of Flash. When I click on the area that says to get the most recent version of Flash, I then get the message saying that Chrome already has the most recent version of Flash and updates it automatically. However, it is not working. I uninstalled and reinstalled Flash. Still no luck. I am not able to play GLITCH!!! I click to enter the world and I just get a white screen. I know this is not a Glitch bug or issue, but can someone plzzzzzzzz help me. MY PIGGIES ARE DYING FOR GOODNESS SAKES! :p In the meantime, while trying to fix this issue, can someone plz visit my home street & fill up my piggie feeders so they do not die. Thank you :) And thank you to anyone that can help me with this issue.

  • No, but then I didn't think that would be the problem since it is a brand new install of Chrome.

  • Google Chrome running on Windows includes Adobe Flash Player, and Chrome's updater also updates Flash. To force a manual update: click the spanner icon at top right, click  "About Google Chrome" and it will do an update if one is available.

For Chrome on Windows, you don't need to install Flash yourself but even if you do then Chrome will ignore it. IE and Firefox each require Flash to be installed manually and there are separate versions for each, automatically selected when you visit Adobe's site with each of the browsers. I think there might be an issue with IE on 64-bit Windows but as I hardly ever use IE I haven't checked recently.

Chrome running on the latest version of Android on an Asus Google Nexus tablet doesn't include Flash. Apparently there is a complicated workaround that requires techy skills I don't know about older versions of Android or other tablets, except to say that getting Flash to work on an iPad also requires techy skills I believe.

Also, I've no idea about Chrome on Apple keyboard/mouse computers.

Hope this helps a bit, sorry to be so vague on the non-Windows operating systems.

BTW I'm using Chrome on Windows and Glitch works fine (so far).

  • Oh boy ... thank you Cryztal ~ I appreciate that a bunch! :)

John259, yes I am using Windows 7. I did the "About Google Chrome" and it says all is up to date. And yes, my husband uses Chrome and he plays Glitch just fine. Not sure why I seem to be having so many issues with it. :( I won't ever use IE. And I would still be using Firefox if I wouldn't have had a problem arise with it that we couldn't seem to fix.

I just really want to play Glitch and I can't :(

  • Ok..Here is my two currants worth..btw before we start..I hate I.E..lol ...ok..here we go...There is a few thing you can do...first try un installing Chrome completely..then run your cleaner...clean out everything and anything that can be cleaned...restart your puter..then re install chrome.

:-/...Also if your brave enough you could try this..if all else above fails.

Type about://plugins into the address bar. Once you hit enter you'll see a list of all the plugins in Chrome, scroll down to the Flash entry and disable it. Then go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayerto install Flash manually.

  • You might have to completely uninstall flash and reinstall.  I've been having tons of flash issues lately.

You get the uninstaller from adobe page: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

Also with regards to firefox, if you install an Older flash version, it seems to have less issues.  (however still very laggy IMO)

  • The issue that I was having with Firefox was not with Flash ~ it was that somehow an AVG security toolbar got installed and no matter what we tried we couldn't get rid of it. Rather than trying to fix this mess with Chrome, I think I am going to try working on the issue with Firefox. At least the Flash was working fine on it. We'll see what happens. :) thank you all for your help :)

  • Wife OTL: Glad you were able to address the Firefox problem and enter Glitch. I would still like to put in my 2 currants if I could. First of all, I also hate IE and don't use it at all. Second, I use Chrome 99% of the time. If I have issues I use Firefox. The thing with Chrome and Flash is that sometimes there is a separate Flash loaded in if you use Adobe for other things. So that means you have to disable the separate Flash from Adobe OR disable the Chrome version and not get auto updates. This happens on Windows XP but I have not had it happen with Windows 7.

To fix: you need to go into Chrome (use the little wrench icon), and I believe its under the heading of Plug-ins. I think its in the Setting menu but I am not at that computer right now. Anyway, there is an option to disable the Adobe. So if you try that it might work better. I will update when I get to my other computer if this is not correct.

  • You can read more about managing Chrome's flash player here: http://www.glitch.com/help/faq/#q27 -- just scroll down to "Step 3: Chrome users only" and it talks you through disabling the built-in one.  That should hopefully be enough information to help people through keeping the built-in one too if that's what they prefer.

  • I had to uninstall and reinstall flash. Not sure what happened, but it was not working in any browser. I would log in to game, and it would crash within 5 mins.  It seems to be better now. Hope that helps you Wife.
