Groddle Meadow Marathon

Hello to all,
Do you enjoy running through the streets getting your glitchen exercise on?  No time to chat because you've got to make it to the next street?  This event is for you.  The Groddle Meadow Marathon. Instead of just running to the next street, why not compete---and, if you're as fast as you say you are, get a prize for your hard training?

Here is how it works:  Each runner gets a race bib with their individual number.  You will have a set number of bibs depending on the number of street monitors (if you're number 1, you have ten notes with the number 1 on them).  As you reach the checkpoints, you will give one bib to a street monitor and continue the race.  When you reach the finish line, you will be given a number for the order that you finish.  The race will then be verified by the checkpoint monitors and prizes will be given out (giltch dev's haven't made giant checks yet, but you'll get more than a fortune cookie).

Safety is an issue, so lace up your shoes tight, and, don't worry, we'll have workers glitching the streets with plenty of cups of water.

Race time:  8pm EST Friday, December 23.   Race starting line:  Corner of Tillymurry Hurry and Langden Abbey.

Running not your thing?  We still need workers.  If interested, please sign-up below (post with either worker or runner).

  • People have raised concern over people using performance enhancing materials (hairball, spinach, teleportation).  I want to assure runners that the race monitor workers will be logged into a party chat revealing names of Glitches who move what is judged to be too quickly across the mini-map.  If it is noted that a white dot moves at super speed (on ground or in air), that glitch will be DQ'd and will not earn a prize.

I don't expect that to happen, but just to ensure that the race will be fair I want to let you know that there will be security issues.  Also, the path set up does not include a train route for that very reason.

Also, no tripping (splanking is permitted).

  • Jumping is fine.  Spinach is not.

  • why not just allow all the runners to use both hairball and spinach?

it is difficult to manage any of those for a sustained period, and it would save your officials from having to use subjective judgements to determine who's moving too fast. what if a runner was DQed when all he had was a fast connection?

spinach is cheap and hairball isn't all that expensive and it's really hard to manage repeated doses AND keep moving, so it'd save you some monitoring problems to simply allow it.

you might consider giving each runner some if they don't have any; there's only so much you can possibly use at once even if you have SKILLS.

worth considering. since nobody gets a telltale external display form using any of those, your only indication is if they move fast. you could end up with disputes over connection speed.

  • Attn:  The marathon has been postponed.  The boss-man has invited me to his house for a holiday party----I tried to get out of it; however, he questioned what marathon starts at that time and assumed i was talking about a drinking marathon.

New, tentative date:  December 30th.  Ideas?  thoughts?  regular jumping is fine/ super jumping is not.
