Regarding Rook Attacks

Given the current structure of the game as I understand it (please correct me if I'm wrong), the only two things that Glitches can do to halt a rook attack require either Martial Imagination or Piety (or both).  What happens to characters without such skills who might be present in these cases?  I ask this mainly because, unlike all other skills, it would seem that these skills (and any prerequisites) would essentially be mandatory, if only for self-defense.  Previous to this, no other skill seemed to be required for "safe" exploration of the world, even though many skills enhance one's ability to actually play within it.

Of course, I may be wrong about my understanding of either rook attacks or these particular skills, in which case, I would appreciate being told this.

  • Glitches do not need to defend themselves from the Rook at all - it is here to free us! Revel in the coming of the Rook, lay back and watch as it carries us away from this place!

  • Hi and Welcome Hazmat.....

You are correct: to halt a Rook attack, MI and Piety 1 are needed. As for "self-defense", well
technically speaking, the 2 new skills, MI & Piety1, cannot be used just for your own self-defense because MI, where the Rook is 1st stunned, can Only be done with the help of other Glitchens .
The Focusing Orb (when "stun": is selected, with the MI skill, of course) begins to charge up, and a number appears above the head of the Defender using the Orb. Other Glitchens at the battle, then quickly click on that number, but cannot go over "7", or the Orb explodes...
Otherwise, when that Orb then shoots a stun ray at the Rook....(and we have been warned that the Rook is way too powerful and Can Not be defeated unless It is first stunned!! All this moves very fast, so it helps to understand the steps /pre-recs (lol))  then, Piety1 kicks in: a Glitchen ,who has the P1skill, of course, very quickly,  "Primes" whichever Giant's Shrine is on that particular attack area  (a large Arrow appears over said Shrine..message says Donate...Emblems best donation...But...lol...whatever you put in will charge up that Shrine to blast the Rook out of commission...at least that Rook, and we have Defended Imagination, the Giants, and our home, Ur of Glitch.
With Piety labeled as "1", good possibility that could progress to say, Piety 2, or 3, perhaps, and with advancing skill levels, we may be given an individual skill/tool, that in addition to, and using the skills that Defend all the Living, first, (MI & Piety 1)  to acquire that self-defense ability...sure would be sweet...lol.....Welcome

  • I don't have those high-level skills, so during the one rook attack I participated in, I donated an emblem and then helped revive a few piggies and trees. However, I have not helped defend in other rook attacks because there wasn't much for me to do. And the folks who do have the mad skillz required to defeat a rook are able to do so in such a short period of time that people who do not have teleportation skills are often not able to reach the street where the attack is happening until the event is over.

  • Reviving doesn't require any skills as far as i know

  • Hi Tonya......Yes....you are absolutely correct, particularly about so many of Ur's Defenders of Imagination..(that's all Glitchens, esp all who show up to help in any way they can during and after a Rook attack) not being able to reach the street where the attack is happening, and believe me, even those of us with the TP skills and the currents/energy to use that skill, are very frustrated not being able to reach the attacked street until the battle is over...not a bunch of happy campers over that.....Many of us have spoken about and agree many of us need to speak up about this issue in the forums so that the Devs become aware of, consider, and hopefully remedy this situation....
@Tonya...you have so too helped defend in all Rooks attacks! You showed up (yippie) You donated the best of all donations: an Emblem! Tysm.....and...you helped revive Piggies and Trees....Reviving has a high cost, quickly lowering Mood/Energy Levels, that unless raised quickly with hi-energy food/drinks, can send ya to Hell! Not bad, most excellent ...(esp as " there wasn't much for me to do"...lol...ya rock Tonya...Thanks)

  • I'll add my voice to concern over the duration of the Rook attacks, atm in my opinion they are too short, unless you are in the actual place where an attack is happening by the time you reach an affected area there is pretty much nothing to do. This for those with TP skills, it must be far more frustrating for those who do not yet have that skill. When I arrived at the rook attacks this test best I did was to doanate a emblem, yippee!! and at another revive one hen plus a little radiating and bestowing Random Kindness, leaving me feeling I pretty much didnt help.

Compared to in the past attacks, before Martial Imagination and Piety, when the attach warning was longer? and more of the creatures/trees needed revival this time around I felt disappointed, I really wanted to try my new skills or at least have the satisfaction of helping to restore piggies, butterflies, trees and gah yes even hens. For me part of the 'fun' of a rook attack was the struggle to reach an area and the achievement of reviving fallen fauna/flora at the same time as trying to keep yourself and fellow Glitchen alive, to take the time to TP over to a street only to find I wasnt needed was no fun at all.

As Rook attacks stand at the moment I feel Glitchen might be discourage from rallying to the cause especially those who do not have MI and P.

Hoping the comments here will help get back the "wow Rook attacks rock! " feeling I had in those earlier tests.

  • +1 Faereluth

I dont think these smaller quick attacks are as good as the couple I got to experience before the new skills were implemented...

  • I have both of the defense skills, and when I am able to teleport to a an attack quickly enough I have found that I rarely even use them. There are so many other people using them that I don't need to: EVERYONE can help, regardless of skills, in all ways, since they can click on the orb with numbers to help make the stun attack more powerful, and donate to the shrines that others prime. Of course, reviving can be done by anyone as well. I can go to an attack and feel like I was helping out the entire time without using my skills once.

I also strongly agree that the attacks need to be much more difficult (take longer) to drive back. They are over way too quickly now and they don't feel like any sort of challenge at all. I know Stoot has said this won't be the case when the attacks are "no longer the next big, new thing" (paraphrasing), but I don't think that is true. There will always be large numbers of people interested in participating in them, and there will always be new players who haven't experienced enough of them to get bored yet. Alternatively, if players feel like they aren't needed for the attacks, then they may get bored of them much quicker and stop caring.

  • also with fae on this- the rook attacks were fun before they needed skills- we had ur-wide planning as we went street-to-street reviving. the animals only needed 3 people, so it was cool to figure out where were going and who you were going with. they affected larger areas so many more people could participate. and the graphics were awesome.

now i've missed many rook attacks, i hear, but i also hear that i'm not missing anything, because they're over before they start. i finally tp'd to one, and i couldn't figure out what the heck to do to "prime a shrine" and then before i could figure it out, rook was gone. no more teamwork, no more traipsing around helping animals! wahhhh... i'll take the simpler rook attak any day!
