Sorry, TS but for the first time.

I have been playing Glitch since the end of alpha and the first beta.  For the first time I am unable to press that I would  recommend Glitch to my friends, button, I am now saying NO.  The card system stinks, I have spent over a million img and still, cannot get cards that are relevant, to what you say, I now need.  Are the skills that we have done not worth anything anymore?. I do not want to spend 20,000 img to speed up learning times, what am I learning? only the one new skill that appeared.  They are all I seem to get and why do I have 3 of them there at the same time? I have to use the one shuffle to change the cards that were there at the end of the last ur day.  Where are the gems and the bonus items we used to get?  even buying the cards, doesn't seem to help much.  Up to now I have loved the changes you have done, the housing,  fox's and the sloths.

+1 for folks who are embracing change.
I know I am, and I love the new gameplay.

  • To each there own, but the system seems like a vastly superior one to how it was originally. My character is a lot more productive now than before the update with the exception of squeezing chickens but I am probably just missing the card.

  • Saying "Just spend IMG to get the perks back" is well and good, but low level characters (I was level 29 at the conversion) don't get enough IMG to perk our way back to where we were. My character is less effective at everything he does than he was last week, even after spending the 100k IMG I received (most on brain capactiy & learning skills).

  • Having read all the stuff here I decided to jump into the "☣ elf ☣ is wrong" bandwagon and the "use all your IMG Miss Melody !" support group.

I´ve suffered the "downgrade" of our habilities for aproximately 1 hour since the new release, that´s the time it took to me to blew 700k IMG buying upgrade cards and now I´m ever more powerfull than before. More superharvest, more minerals, more meat, more milk, more EVERYTHING.

Just get time to adjust, spend that IMG right away, you will get it back in no time and you will see how good things are right now.

Did I mentioned ☣ elf ☣ is wrong? ... oh, yeah, right at the beginning. n_n

Yendor: the brain capacity and learning skills probably aren't going to be the most useful ones *yet,* but don't worry. It's easy to earn more imagination and buy more upgrades. Try bean seasoning! Also, visit the Ancestral Lands every day!
And feel free to stop by my street and use the icons!

Also, if you've already used your daily re-shuffle, don't be afraid to buy a few cheap upgrades you may not really want. Get them out of the way and you might find cooler ones!

  • I, for one, think the change is refreshing. All these "upgrades" were sort of already part of the whole system, totally automated, and now we're more conscious of them. Also, there's even more perks and bonuses added on top of what's already there.

So, TS added more stuff to the game, made what is essentially XP into a currency to spend as we wish and gave the grinding play-style and all sorts of mundane tasks a higher purpose. This, to me, is way, WAY more balanced than what we had. Now we have a reason to go all around Ur. I have visited more streets with a purpose in the last two days than I have in 3-5 months. I have a reason to go to the AL and get more/better quoins, and to go to places other than Illmenskie to mine. The game rewards you for traveling all over and not just by teleport! Overall, the world of Ur and its ongoing expansion makes a heck of a lot more sense now. It's different, yes, and at times, I have been maybe a little irritated. But I can't say it's worse.

iMG is there for you to spend. Instead of focusing on what you've "lost" - if you spend a few low cards, you might uncover just the ones you need for that upgrade you're after. Pretty soon you'll be clicking on them like crazy, one after the other, and before you know it, you'll have most - if not all - of your abilities back the way they were. With bonuses, in a lot of cases.

Also, like pixel said - the game's in beta. Things are going to change, sometimes drastically, and getting overly annoyed about it is kind of silly, imo.

  • Spending the iMG is a little addictive, I think. Super fun to buy the cards -- even more fun to see the gains you get from it. Fun change to the game, TS. :) I've played more in the last day then I had in the last couple of weeks. :)

  • I for one think that in many forums if you even express mild disappointment or confusion, you are berated and mocked.  So as my mother told me "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."  However, I did note that after all my first confusion, popups did appear saying things like "can't find your rock, click the IMG button" appeared which were quite helpful.  Sometimes what is viewed as "negative" comments do help the devs to improve the game.  We all need to get off the soapboxes and be a bit more tolerant of other Glitches - lol - especially us elderly folks who do have a harder time adjusting to change.  Not everyone is still young.  :-)

  • I'm probably not going to comment any more on this issue but let me give you an example of why it is important for people to express themselves, even if it is negative. For those of you who have been playing at least...8 months...you may remember there were a gazillion billion posts with people (mostly the same small set) complaining about crops being stolen out of the community gardens while the Glitchen who planted them were standing right there. People tired of hearing the complaints and the criticism of those complaining got nasty at points, but the bottom line was the developers eventually made a small change (the one minute lock) to help prevent the thefts. The developers need to hear the negative as well as the positive because it helps them make the game stronger and better for every one, particularly in beta! Miners, keep shuffling - 4 days in and I finally got Maniac Mining I and II.

  • I'm so tired I shouldn't be typing this right now, but alas...

Change is exciting. Unknown yes, but shouldn't completely be shunned when not understood. So yes, it's important for people to express themselves even when negative, but not until the subject or the matter is understood. Or at least a little digested. To completely write off or critique something that you haven't even experienced (seen people bash, when later admitting they haven't even stepped foot in the game after said changes), or even given a chance to reflect on is a little hasty. Experience, reflect, then give an opinion, yes. But don't just read something that you think is happening and then bitch about all the reasons it could be wrong when you haven't even dealt with it first hand.

TS is an amazing company and this is a game that we all get to experience AS they are making, exploring, expanding, and changing. If something really isn't working, they will change it. That's the beauty. Because it's 'beta', or a live game adapting as we play, we get to experience and be involved and shape the game as we play! How wonderful is that!

So I don't think the right action is to immediately dismiss. It's not the negative comments or criticisms I think a lot of people are having problems with lately. It's the tone. It's the silliness of bashing/complaining about something that's so new that we haven't had a chance to even completely use or react properly to it.

tl;dr you're sleepy version: This is a lovely game that we get to experience as it evolves. It's funny to me to see so much reaction without experience or reflection.

  • What Havok said. It isn't that people are dismissive of criticism. It's that people seem to not be giving the changes a chance. And by a chance, I mean more than one or two game day's play. Until then, criticism just isn't too productive.

  • NOTE: What I'm about to say isn't me "hating" the the whole iMG change... it's just telling me what I think about it, at the moment of posting this message.

Yendor wroteSaying "Just spend IMG to get the perks back" is well and good, but low level characters (I was level 29 at the conversion) don't get enough IMG to perk our way back to where we were. My character is less effective at everything he does than he was last week, even after spending the 100k IMG I received (most on brain capactiy & learning skills).

I was also level 29 before the change, got about 168k iMG, bought about a hundred upgrades, spend all the iMG (lucky most only cost me between 200 and 2500 iMG) and still haven't got back my 4 seconds of mining time (7 at the moment of posting) or the 10 grain per squeeze (5 at the moment of posting) now I'm trying to earn 14k of iMG to get my energy level back as I had before the change (already bought 24 cards... because I started at around 150 energy or 200, if I can remember correctly).

The only big change I got in al those upgrades I bought are the 25-50 more potatoes that can go into a still. Now I got too donate a LOT, just to get the upgrades to get my 4 seconds and 10 grains per click back...

I did bought some upgrades what makes me get 3x super harvest with crops and herbs (haven't harvested any yet after the change) and I also bought one or two upgrade for the trees, but I did not get any super harvest yet :/ or get a load of music blocks, what I did get before the change.

For now... I'm sort off against this whole iMG thing, because, now, I gotta work to get my skills back to how there were before the change..

I do like it that you can "shake" an elemental pouch to get some extra elements
I do like it that I now get about 10% more rewards for doing quests
I do like it that I now use less energy in smelting rocks

But please... you could at least have already gave us the upgrades to our skills back (I'm pointing at the mining time and the amount of grain per squeeze) Edit: even if you gave me (or us) less iMG to start with

Thank you for reading this long comment

  • This game used to be much better. The changes that were made during THIS beta pale in comparison to what we saw in the original beta, and overall I believe many steps in the wrong direction have been taken. The cards are gimmicky, like many of the other changes made, and don't add any plot/story to the game (which is the only thing the game needed when it was first released publically).

Seems that many of the players that support the changes aren't older players who remember how convenient, easy, and fun the game was a while ago.

Also, very disappointed how the devs posted in this topic but didn't try to alleviate player quarrels in it, community is the biggest factor in this game and even that seems to be taking a beating lately.

  • Also @Rutger I was level 24 before the change, had learned all skills besides some cooking ones, and I only recieved 58k imagination... :(
Posted 7 months ago by Yves Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Rutger: TS did give you the upgrades to the skills back, in the form of the appropriate cards and the amount of iMG to purchase them.

I believe (and someone will correct me if I'm wrong) that everybody is getting 5 grains per squeeze at the moment and there aren't any cards for that. Stoot said that will come back.

@Yves: The changes are by no means complete yet. TS is working mainly on game mechanics for now, but we have no knowledge of what may be going on behind the scenes. We all still need to wait and see for some time ("two weeks" lol).

I'm not sure what you mean by "older players". I wasn't in the first beta but I have been playing regularly for the past 7 months and certainly experienced enough of the game before the changes to consider myself a veteran. I love the changes.

I'm also not sure what you mean by "convenient, easy and fun the game was a while ago". How can Glitch possibly be described as inconvenient or difficult? I'm truly confused as to what you mean.
Posted 7 months ago by Flowerry Pott Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Yves Um, not to be rude, but I am diametrically opposed to everything you just said xD This game used to have a few elements, since fixed, that made it unbelievably inconvenient to play at times. And I've not actually seen a single change that had negatively affected the way I play.

For example, just prior to launch, do you remember what Tiny Speck added to the game? A quantity picker. Yeah. Before that you couldn't choose exactly how many of anything you wanted to do anything with. Need to eat 8 awesome stew? Sucks for you. Eat 3, eat 3, eat 1, eat 1. That's how you eat 8. Much more inconvenient... DONATING xD Need to put in exactly 367 meat with EHSP to get that next emblem? Wow, that's gonna be hard, because you can only choose 1, 10, 20, or all!

The only way to get the number you were looking for was to drop things until the number you wanted and 'all' were equivalent. And another change they've made since then? Those items you dropped without moving weren't locked. They'd be stolen.

And another thing. Chickens. My gosh, the chickens. They used to be as skittish as a, as a... Well something really quite skittish. The things would take flight at the drop of a hat! And back then... They would NOT consent to be squeezed or incubate eggs while flying.

I don't wanna blame TS for those problems, yeah they were fairly glaring, but that was eight months ago! That was the original beta! Each of those problems were fixed on the day of launch, so some might not remember them, but they were fixed and that means, no harm no foul :P

And the new stuff. My god don't even get me started on the new stuff! Do you know exactly what tools TS put into the game with the housing update? "Yeah, the ability to design your house, big whoop." Say some, BUT, if you happen to see some of the things Stoot has said... It can also be used for level design. That drag and drop interface that places furniture? It's a very adaptable mechanic ;) And they've promised us so much more in that vein. This is the mere tip of the iceberg.

Even ignoring that, let's move onto the actual subject here. The imagination system. I obviously have a lot to say about that, and have already said it, so we won't have to get into that too much. But the potential of this system? It may be annoying now while you don't have much imagination to spend, and a lot of skills to upgrade, but eventually you'll earn more imagination, and with all the stuff TS is working on with housing and whatnot? I doubt there will be a ton of new skills anytime soon.

Point being, this system has a TON of potential. You know a lot of those ideas in the ideas forum that would take a whole new skill path to implement? A thing TS probably doesn't want to do? Well, now TS can simply make a new card, decide when it should be added to the deck, and voila! Idea implemented for our consumption!

TL;DR: Things used to SUCK, and now they are beyond great. Then, considering we're barely into all the new stuff, it can only get more awesome :)

  • @ Liza - You said some good things!  The main point being that nothing is "Finalized"!  TS is still testing and we all have a say in it!  There are going to be things you like and things you don't like.  We are all indiviuals and each of us is very different.  What one doesn't care much about others have strong opinions on.  What I like you may hate and vice versa.  This game will continue to grow and change as long as it lasts and that is something we all need to get used to if we want to play.  TS is not only testing the game, they are reading our opinions and considering them.  Believe me when I note that they will always be trying to make this the best game that they can.  They cannot make us all happy but they can make most of us happy and I think that is something they want to do and are trying to do.

I admit to some disappointments but I am also excited to see the many new changes and look forward to what is to come.  I can adapt, I think, to what I don't like and enjoy what I do.  I am already forgetting a few things prior to the Housing test (what a memory!) so I am very glad I have screen shots.  The "New" Glitch already has many changes and there are more to come so hang on tight and be prepared to adjust (I hope most of us do) and enjoy the things that you like the best and try to ignore those things you don't (if you can).  I appreciate all the work that has gone into Glitch and will continue to go into it.  The Staff at Tiny Speck work almost every day to make this a good game (even a great one).  They don't come to work and say, "How can we upset thousands of players today?".  No, they come to work and say, "How can we make this a better game?".

  • Miss Melody:
I do not want to spend 20,000 img to speed up learning times, what am I learning? only the one new skill that appeared.

I sympathise with the transition pains, but we're beta testers. In the long run, most of the people playing Glitch won't be beta testers. They won't experience this sort of thing--playing the game for so long with almost all of the powerful skills, and then suddenly have to face them being rebalanced to fit a new feature without breaking the game. Resources should not be directed to make a one-time beta transition easy for such a small fraction of the playerbase, they should be directed to make the game more fun in the long-run for the largest amount of people. And this is what Tiny Speck has done.

    Yves:
Seems that many of the players that support the changes aren't older players who remember how convenient, easy, and fun the game was a while ago.

I was invited to the beta on June 24, 2011. I remember how convenient and easy the game was back then: you didn't even have to invest in the game, nay, you didn't have to play it at all, to become powerful. You just set a skill, waited, and had all the perks showered down on you--and you didn't even have play the game. After two months' worth of testing I got bored and left. What kind of game rewards you for not playing it? The way Glitch was at that time, your strength was determined by how long it's been since you joined, and not actually how much you've been playing. Can you imagine how the community would be like a year after release? Two years? Three years? The card and iMG system saved Glitch by giving it longevity that didn't exist.

  • This is a continuation on my first post; and again: What I'm about to say isn't me "hating" the whole iMG change... it's just telling me what I think about it, at the moment of posting this message.

Flowerry Pott wrote: @Rutger: TS did give you the upgrades to the skills back, in the form of the appropriate cards and the amount of iMG to purchase them.

They only gave us cards to learn skills in less time... as you can see on my upgrades page. (what was not even necessary, as I got all the skills learned except the Transcendental Radiation II skill)

I've seen people, who are on a higher level then me, buying upgrades to get their mining speed of 4 seconds back, and they still have iMG left to buy other useful upgrades (like here; he bought 2, Energy Tank +500 worth of 215k iMG, what is more then I had after the big change; also I did not even get those cards)

I know he got 2.4 million iMG at the start... I know he had more energy then me, but that is (and please, correct me if I'm wrong) nothing compared to the iMG "I" had to use to get my energy level on 900 again. (I had to use 55k iMG to get it back, of my total of 168k iMG, what would be about 45% of 168k).

I suck at math, but from taking away about 45% of his 2.4 million iMG, he still has about 1 million iMG to play with.

I know his upgrade are more expensive, but, if you check his upgrades page and compare it to mine, you can see that he has a lot of cards, like more harvest per click... better change on getting a super harvest...

I hear people saying: These massive bean harvests are awesome!! (she's getting about 96 per harvest; and compared to my 12, that is 8 times more then me per harvest --- Edit: I'm not sure if it is 96, but it is at least 3 times more then me)
And I ran out of iMG before even getting "ONE" of those upgrade on my screen to buy ( and you will need 2 or 3 cards to get that massive amount of harvest)

(I love TS.... you guys are doing a great job) but my whole point really is.. Re-think this whole conversation thing that is used.. because I don't see how I could spend my 168k of iMG more wisely then that I did and still have less useful upgrades as other Glitchers of higher levels.

Thank you again for reading my long post

  • I was 33 at the change. I've spent all my iMG and am basically back to where I was, maybe with a bit less energy. It's just a matter of getting the cards you want. It can seem impossible with the large selection we have.

As someone said though, we were basically dropped right into the middle of this. We're unique right now. Anyone who plays after this will see the system from the start, and it'll go much smoother for them. That's something that needs to be kept in mind when forming your opinions of the system. What we're going through now is not something that new players will deal with. It's also why staunchly hating it before giving it time is an unfair judgment.

Also, criticism is good. I'm sure TS loves it....as long as it's constructive. Unfortunately I've personally seen very few of the criticism being constructive. All of it seems to be in regards to not getting the cards they want, or not being as strong. Both these things are just unfortunate effects of being dropped in the middle of this system. They're also issues fixed simply by playing.

  • Yves: Add me to the list of original beta players that loves and sees how this change is for the better of the game's longevity. There are lots of old players that like it and lots that don't. The game has made so many strides in the right direction; so many things have been made better, like Liza was pointing out!

There are also things that could be improved (and hopefully will be) and maybe the conversion could have been done a bit differently; even if it could have been, though, there'd have been lots of unhappy people. You can't make everyone happy.

But happy or not happy, things do need to be pointed out so the game can be improved! I know there are several things that I agree with to make things easier, like a hold on cards or whatnot, so you can still shuffle some without losing a good one you can't get yet.

Also, I agree with Havok a bajillion percent. Things need to be tried thoroughly before being dismissed. I believe most people that don't like the system have done so; some have not though.
