Is there any compelling reason to keep my old house?

This.

I have one of the swamp houses with an herb garden and one tree.
The new houses in beta can be made better in every way.

Am I going to be missing out on anything if I sell my old place (in the transfer process would I get free stuff for my new place)

  • I'm keeping mine so I can have an OVERWHELMING amount of herb plots.

  • You will lose out on the compensation for your old house when the housing reset happens.

  • Presumably that will be similar to selling the house right now, though?

  • No compelling reason to keep... no real compelling reason to get rid of it either.

  • I believe we will get full compensation at  relaunch, rather than the partial you get for selling it now.

ETA: But I'm basing that on an offhand staff comment from yesterday, something about a player being 50k currants up when they receive compensation, but that might not have been intended to be completely literal.

  • I believe you will be partly compensated for your house with imagination, rather than just straight currants which you would receive if you sold now. Also, selling now only gets you a percentage of your purchase price back, whereas the compensation might well be a better deal.  I am holding on to my house.

  • WalruZ, I believe I concur with that.  Fine reasoning, there.

  • @Saucelah, we will get an 80% rebate just like we get now when we sell.

  • This is exactly the reasoning I was following:

    house == currents (meh)
house == imagination (yay! depending on how imagination works)
house == a bunch of furniture and decorations for free (possibly meh?)

If it's going to be bigger house = more imagination, shouldn't I buy a 50k house to get the bigger lump at transition.

    Yay speculation.

  • Do we need to "Clean house" and pick up our items / icons prior to the reset?

  • No, Jigsaw. They will put all our stuff in a moving box or something.

  • I love having two houses (for no distinct reason)! :D

  • do you have a link to that in one of the more recent threads, merth?  I remember that being said awhile back, and though again, it's possible he wasn't being literal, stoot said to someone in the R2 release thread last night that they will be 50k up when housing launches.  Given the player lived in a 30k home, he was completely wrong, and he might have been not bothering to think about the 80% thing, but as the highest possible price, 50k is not 80% of any home model.

  • I don't remember any staff ever saying it'd be 80%. I remember people conjecturing that it may be 80%. At the time (I'm thinking of discussion about it back in November or so), I don't think staff could've said because they weren't sure what the values and such would be between currants, imagination and experience.

I do remember Stoot mentioning the 50k last night though, so I'm inclined to believe it will be something equal to the price of the house, whether in currants or imagination.

There's no way to be sure of anything, but I think it'd be more lucrative to keep the old house than to sell it now. I figure it will hurt you less to keep it than to sell it. I can't imagine them reimbursing in a way where selling it beforehand would've been a better choice.

  • Keep your old house so you can write off the depreciation on your taxes.

  • Its a good chance to clean up so that you don't have a mess to deal with when the stuff in your old house gets dumped into your new house

  • The very fact that there is so much player speculation and only a little staff information on the exact nature of the moving logistics, the process for the upgrade, the date of the final switch, and so much more means I'm still living in my old house and having fun *testing* the new *test* house.
