  • Bumpy dumpy!.Why TS did don't do any post,no twitter,no facebook to annunce the event?.
Posted 69 days ago by Arthur13 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Because they don't yet want hordes. They want to slowly increase the number of people, while they watch how the servers respond to the load. And, more likely, how their network infrastructure handles it.

I wouldn't turn anything down, lol, but I'm not expecting anything for moBeta. After the first beta, everything was reset. Everyone was level 1, bothyour currants and  XP were reset and most of your possessions remove. The beta pickle was compensation for that

  • Okay, I know I'll be yelled at, but I'll address the elephant in the room anyway: there's still no content for higher-level players.  I appreciate that tons of work went into the new housing system, the new tutorial, quests, animals, bug fixes, and so forth over the last year; however, the game still lacks an overarching purpose.  Yes, I can make my house larger so it can hold more stuff, but in the end, I have no reason to collect the stuff.  Unless the feats are going to change dramatically, be available 24/7, and involve making a lot of stuff, I'm stumped.  I'm sorry if all of this sounds harsh, but it's been a main criticism of the game since the beginning (and at least we had street projects before, which gave us some sense of purpose), and I don't see that it's been addressed in the last year.

  • +1 glum pudding. Have to agree with you, once you reach a certain level, have enough currants, have expanded the house, the home street, the tower, etc. and done most of the quests, earned most of the badges, it does start to feel like there isn't much point to playing (aside from chatting with friends). With each level I gain lately, I've felt less desire to spend time in game. The game needs more to hold long-term interest.

  • being open doesn't mean beta is over.  It just means moving from a closed to an open beta.  Glitch will move to a different list on Massively's weekly beta watch.  That's about it.

Glum, it doesn't sound harsh.  But it also doesn't sound like the main criticism.  The main one I've seen all over the place is that it needed more things to do.  It has more things to do.  In fact, starting from scratch, just doing and building a bit of everything takes longer than running the content in the last few triple-A MMO releases.  A friend who has been out since March is overwhelmed.

And when they do finally relaunch, that's not the end of all content releases for the end of the game's lifetime.

It also sounds like the content you're looking to be added is for players that have been in the game for a long time.  That's not a very reasonable expectation as it was not their stated goal.  If such "endgame" (as some insist on calling it) content doesn't come after release, criticize away.  Otherwise, don't volunteer to be at the edge of content in development and complain that you're at the edge of content in development.

I'm not yelling at you.   It's not yelling to disagree.  But that's not harsh -- it's silly.  Look at the game from someone new coming -- there's 10 times as much to do as there was at the first launch.  And that took most people a few months to run through in the first place.

Keep doing what you're doing Tiny Speck.  You're on your way.

  • +11 to glum pudding and lynnt. I've been having the exact same reservations about Glitch. I'm still hanging in but much closer to the tipping point of not caring any more.

It is an elephant in the room, and I don't think it's silly.

  • I mostly agree glum here the games need some sort of activity that is self sustaining like street projects were. The problem is the content being added is that though the content itself is good content but all the current players blow right through it. The thing with street projects was that they gave me a reason to craft things but at the moment I'm not really motivated to do anything I'm realitivly happy with my house and achivments ok for a while but get tiresome as they are simply just a grind.
I also understand though that you are polishing like crazy for the upcoming launch (whenever it comes). So as much as I would love some sort of "end-game content" I don't truely expect it till somtime after launch. What I would love most though is just to have some sort of roadmap for what will happen after launch because at the moment once you guys are done with polishing I have not clue where this game is heading.
And I really stress the last point that some clue as to where the game is heading would be very very nice. It is kind of fustratiting as a longtime player have no clue what is going to happen in the future, You hit all stated unluanching goals but now we don't know what future longtime goals are. I will continue to enjoy your wonderful game but info would be nice.

  • I would point to the recently expanded "Artifacts" and "Artifact Pieces" sections of the Encyclopedia as evidence that there certainly are plans for High-level player projects and quests in the works (at least, I hope so).  I don't think it is silly to mention it, but I think that, as with all things in Ur, the situation is ever changing and we continue to adapt more quickly than perhaps TS is able to respond.

  • +1000 glum!!

TG for alts coz that's where I spend most of my time, now...playing in my alt accounts.

  • For players with the max multiplier or at least close to it there needs to be an activity that is a img sink, since for players with that  it becomes VERY easy to gather img, and then you have no Upgrade Cards to buy, aside from Energy, the question being what that can be is another matter entirely,however....this post is for that (i think it would simplify things to try and keep this topic in one thread)....

  • Huh. I agree with both Glum & Saucelah. Well not so much with the "it's silly" part. Obviously... what with me agreeing and all.

I have an alt from ages and ages ago. She's somewhere around level 15, but really highly skilled (thank you Glitch Academy). When I sign in as her, although I feel young and new and am constantly busy with her quest backlog, it's really not much different than playing with Vera.

I'm a greeter and have been super curious about the new player experience - it's so different now than it was 18 months ago. So I created another alt last night. It was eye-opening. It's like my early game but on steroids. And with this added bonus of thinking of all the stuff that's coming up in the mid-game (ooo I'll want to add furniture, so I'll have to get engineering... seriously, when I started, I only grabbed engineering because it was there!) The game is so much bigger at the mid-level now and that is awesome. Gone is the achievement grind!!! (well, aside from ooo I need imagination, what badge can I get?!)

Those of us that have been around for ages had so much of this essentially handed to us. We already had the skills, sitting in our brain, doing nothing but waiting for a purpose.

I have hopes, with the artifacts, that the late game is about to get the attention that the mid-game received over the last however many months. And that it's going to come with some narrative. (oh boy please let there be some narrative). That's not to say that glum's concerns aren't valid - they are very much so. Once we get through the mid-game, we need something to do. Some purpose beyond the chat channels to keep up with the friend's we've made because, well, there are easier ways to keep up with folks than logging into a virtual world. And, as Innie points out, other games offering us stuff to do.

  • Actually, I have a question: Earlier today, I sent one of my good friends an invite. She says that it's only letting her play anonymously as a guest instead of allowing her to make a full-fledged account. So, is something funny going on with the servers, and should I tell her to wait? Or is this just not supposed to be happening?

    Just throwing that in there.

  • girlthulhu, did she try to leave Gentle Island? You can play anonymously but to leave the island, you have to create an account in the upper right hand corner. The game does not prompt you until you try to leave.

  • I've not been playing at all for the last few days because I've been playing Star Wars The Old Republic and having lots of fun. Lately the only thing I've been doing in Glitch is topping off my feeders and trying to get the damned 101 minute meditation badge. Not exactly thrilling gameplay.

  • Another issue of some importance, IMHO: it's now possible to start playing the tutorial without creating an account, which means that new players will not typically encounter the "you must be 14+ to play" warning until they've invested enough time in the game to feel compelled to save their progress.  While I do like the concept of allowing people to play for a bit without signing up, I think it would save kids (and staff!) a lot of trouble if the 14+ warning were to appear at the beginning as well, where parents might see it too.
