[resolved] Loading Screen

The loading process for streets has become painfully slow. I takes anywhere from ten to thirty seconds per street just to load. The readying screen takes about three or four seconds, but I could care less about that. I know it's not my internet connection, I can surf the web just fine and YouTube never buffers. I keep Glitch in a separate window so I can let it load streets in the background while I do other things.

Perhaps you could cache street data? Or prefetch adjacent streets? Or something? The loading time makes me not want to play glitch. It's that bad.

  • A couple things:

    1) If you aren't yet, try playing Glitch in a browser other than the one you normally use for browsing. Flash can get somewhat unstable when you're playing a full-on game like Glitch that hasn't been properly optimized yet (and that's not a Flash problem, that's a Glitch problem). Playing the game in it's own process that doesn't get interference from other flash apps will both help keep it running smoothly and prevent it from getting in the way of other stuff you may have loaded.

    2) The most recent version of Flash is now 10.2.x so you may see some benefit from upgrading. Or you may not. It's worth a try.

    3) If you let Glitch run in the background while you transfer streets, many browsers will simply reduce the priority on that window and it will then take 2-3x longer (or more) to load a street. I know it kinda sucks, because I like to multitask when something's loading, but it is what it is.

    4) The game needs optimization in a number of ways, and we know it. We have a number of optimizations we're planning in the coming months, and we will probably do more after those are done, because this game is meant to function with a *lot* more players than it does right now. We're not quite ready to start on optimizations yet, but we will be soon, and when that happens we'll let you know because we'll absolutely need your feedback.

  • About #3, on Chrome, Glitch just *stops* if you switch tab. :/

Will installing the latest flash override Chrome's inbuilt flash?
