Zille and Spriggin will thank you later: a Friendly reminder to new Miners

I'm noticing a lot of half-mined rocks lying around some of the streets of Ur, particularly in places where mining is not the primary occupation.  So, I thought it would be a good time to re-introduce to our new players who might just be starting out mining an important game mechanic:  Rocks don't regenerate unless you mine the whole thing.

If you leave part of a rock mined, then it will stay like that until someone finishes the job, leaving only a few bits of rock available to the next person.  Once mined all the way to the roots, Rocks regenerate, giving another Glitch the opportunity to get a full load of Dullite or Sparkly or whatever.

This is not meant to shame you into doing something, but more a gentle nudge from one miner to another.  We miners of Ur find that following this common courtesy of mining a rock all the way through (if you can) means we all end up more efficiently using our resources.  And, I'm sure Zille (to whom rocks are sacred) and Spriggin (imaginer of roots and regeneration) will look kindly upon you for it too.  :)

  • I'm a scrap miner. I only harvest ore from partially harvested rocks. I don't know if it's true, but I've convinced myself that I get more gems from these. What area(s) are you finding lots of half-mined rocks?

  • Alot of partial rocks showing up in places like Rasana, Aranna, Muufo, Tahli, places like that.

  • Ah, thanks Grem Sketch --- those are on my usual routes. I guess I've been slacking on the scrap mining, lately!

  • Groddle Heights has been pretty bad lately for half mined rocks. Walked through three streets there last night and all the rocks on all of them were partially mined, so I stopped to finish them off.

  • I wouldn't assume those partial rocks are due to lack of knowledge.

  • While I'm not fond of rock stubs (as some of us call them), you have to keep in mind that there can be a multitude of reasons why someone doesn't finish them, it's not always lack of knowledge. Keep in mind that behind that Glitch is a living, breathing, human who may have had something come up unexpected. These PSAs are good to know, but again, sometimes things come up, so it's not all people who didn't know that the rocks don't respawn if they're not mined in full.

  • When I first joined, I had no idea what the mechanism was behind rock regeneration. And, well, I wanted to be nice and leave some to the other players - which, as you might now guess, meant never fully mining a rock. I have come a long way, of course, and I know better now, but it might be useful for this knowledge to be incorporated into a mining quest.

I am aware that new and lower-level players also have a low energy tank and might be unable to finish off a rock, so I might just get grinding on the cocktail front (where I have been incredibly slack to date) until I obtain the Earthshaker recipe. And then I will be leaving Earthshakers around the rockier places. If it helps just one new player, that's already something.

  • Oh, I completely understand that, Ayasta.  Which is why I'm trying to be pretty low-key about the whole thing.  Things happen, rocks get left, it happens.  And it's not a big deal.  But, if its the entire street, than it seems likely that there are some people out there that might not know the mechanic, or the niceties of helping a fellow miner out.

I figure someone's gonna post one of these once every few months, so I went ahead and did so in the least confrontational way I could think of. :)
