Icon Data

Update: New findings to correct old findings: http://mathemaglitch.blogspot.com/2012/02/icon-update.html.

In a previous thread on how to generate energy without eating food, I posted that I was collecting data on Icons and that I would make a post when I had enough data to give some real numbers.

I have over 300 icon uses recorded now, so I figured I'd give a little update.  I'm level 60 so I have 2860 maximum energy and I pay 1441 currants for a tithe.  Over a little more than 300 icon uses I had an average of 709 energy per revere and an average of (exactly) 4 reveres per tithe.  Reveres per tithe is definitely random, ranging from 2 to 7 (though 3, 4, and 5 are far more likely).

Based on the assumption that energy return from revering is a percentage of maximum energy, it is pretty safe to say that tithing is more efficient than food as a way of getting energy.  I've done a more in depth analysis of this here: http://mathemaglitch.blogspot.com/2012/02/icons.html

  • Thanks for this. Noticed a typo, btw: "0.49 energy per currant" where you meant "currant per energy."

  • Just got pointed to this recently. Great work, Humbabella! I'm totally going to use my icons from now on. Thank you for sharing. :)

  • Reveres per tithe is definitely random, ranging from 2 to 7 (though 3, 4, and 5 are far more likely).

This is so weird to me, as mine constantly come out at 4 uses per tithe, precisely. It doesn't seem to matter how I mix it up, after the 4th one, bang, need to tithe.

  • Ahh... Since you're L60.. no need to Reflect, but that is what I'm focused on.. I tried to record but just don't have the patience.. Hoping the results are similar.  {LOL}.

  • New big post to correct some of my older findings.  Still collecting data on icons.

@Princess Fi: I plan on soon using one of my science alts to figure out if ruminate and reflect give the same amount as revere.  I'm place a decent-sized wager that they do (of course reflect would give up to 20% depending on mood).

  • I've been trying to keep track of my tithes/reflects for a while now. I'm at level 44. If my data would be helpful to you, let me know.

From what I can figure, reflecting gives almost three times more xp than would simply EHSP-donating stuff worth the same amount of currants that it takes to tithe. Okay that sounded really convoluted but in my head it makes complete sense.

  • That reflect vs. donate sounds like it's in the right ballpark (if tithing matches reveres then based on my results you should get 2.12 xp per currant for tithing and 0.6 xp per currant for donating - ignoring mood).  If you have data for level 44 I would love to get it to confirm (or, I guess, disprove) some of my findings.  I'll talk to you in game.

  • Love your blog posts too, Humbabella.

  • Anecdotally: I seem to get much higher XP for the Reflect immediately after tithing than at other times. Since all I do with my icons is Reflect, this is pretty noticeable.

    Can anyone else validate this?

  • That's been my experience as well, Pascale, but I haven't taken a close look at it (yet). Certainly when I tithe, then reflect, I get maybe triple (or more) XP than if I'd done other actions before reflecting.

Interestingly, I seem to get the most XP from reflecting through the first Icon I created, and the least from my newest one. Not sure if that means the XP is based on number of previous tithes, amount of favour achieved through that Giant, or merely the length of time I've had it... but worth noting.

Again, all anecdotal, unscientific musings, but I may take a closer look now and jot down any findings :).

  • I wish I didn't read this because it has completely changed how I look at getting energy.

I don't understand how people record this stuff. :P
    Thanks! This was helpful.
