KRP GHW XJO FSM SDB

Do you know what KRP stands for? How about GHW? No? Do you want to know? What would you do if you came across them many times in the Forums, but - no matter how much or where you searched - you could never find out their meanings? You even tried Glitchionary.com. Nothing. Would you feel sad? Annoyed? Both? That's how I feel regarding "SDB." I don't know what it stands for and am getting to the point where soon I'll no longer ask for help or guidance. I'm suffering from "ask-for-help" burn-out.

Okay. I'm done. Pity Party over.

  • Unfortunately, the users (mainly those on the forums) regarding almost every game I have ever played come up with acronyms for commonly referenced items with long names. I don't know exactly what would help that situation, it seems to happen fairly naturally.

    However, I think it would make an interesting Glitch Strategy Wiki page, or some other website. For commonly used slang/acronyms in Glitch (if there are enough instances of this happening?). But if people also don't know about that page, and don't want to ask, then I don't know how to alleviate their frustration.

  • Oops, posted too soon. That above was a sympathatic joke -- from another game where it seemed like all of General chat was pure acronyms.

    I do get the asking-for-help burnout but most good multiplayer games have a crazy amount of acronyms and it's just something you have to beat your head against for a while until you're one of the dorks on the other side speaking in tongues.

    That being said, the only other acronym (Glitchronym?) I can think of is:
    EHSP: Extremely Hallowed Shrine Powder (triples your donation bonus)

    Can anyone think of more that might be baffling to new players?

  • Kalaeloa Raceway Park?? Kinesin related proteins??
    Global Health Watch?? Generators of hazardous waste?? Griffin-Hill-Wheeler Equation??
    XJO: something related to the stock market??
    Flying Spaghetti Monster?? Finite-state machine?? Federated States of Micronesia??

    An SDB is a small diameter bomb, obvsly.

  • I hereby appoint myself "Gatherer of All Puzzling Acronyns." Whenever I come across an acronym relating to the Glitch game, I'll put it and its definition into a word doc.

    I shall now be known as GAPA.

    I type "SDB glitch" into google.
    This was the 3rd result.
    But I do feel your pain. Any subculture develops a short hand and I know it can be frustrating to have to ask all the time. But global answers those sort of question quickly and without judgment (mostly).

  • Darn, was hoping this was a cryptogram to solve...sigh...though I do find it odd that you mentioned one of my old beau's who had the initials FSM...but I guess that's not really applicable here.

    I do note that in my head I pronounce LBo as "elbow" when I read it... :D

    And having been here a while, I still have no clue what KRP GHW XJO FSM stand for...though I did like the WKRP reference!!

  • QQ as Quazy Quoin here ALWAYS gets me on the forums, as every other game I play QQ is crying eyes usually in a "whine more stupid noob" sort of way {however it originates from the Warcraft series, where Alt+QQ was an instant game quit AKA rage quitting}

    TS means both "The Staff" and "Tiny Speck" depending on whom you are speaking to, but they both refer to the same people anyway.

    But yeah, I'm just going to repeat what a few others have said. EVERY game culture out there has it's own acronyms & slang, made by the users. I am confused by your saying you are getting to the point where you will no longer ask for help, when it seems more than obvious that you couldn't possibly have just asked someone what it stands for.

    This community {save for snarky people like me} are generally nice. Global chat can *generally* be a great place for newbies {note, I didn't say "noobs", who are a different breed than "newbies"} to get answers to stuff like this. Heck, you figured out that posting on the forums is a good way to get help - could have simply asked is all.

  • FFL = Fire Flex LabFF = Fireflies
    FFJ = FF jar
    BB-1 thru BB-5 = a type of MB = Musicblock
    (there are other ones too, such as: DB, DG, DR, XS)
    GNG = Good Night Groddle = rare MB
    SB-1 = extremely rare MB

    ~and, just in case you come across it, somewhere, some time,
    FS = Faunasphere, which is an old, now closed, game many of us once played,
    a long time ago, before we all found our way to Glitch, our new home. =)

  • Re: Warcraft and "QQ" -- the exact history seems to be controversial, with earlier priority claims made for the crying eyes interpretation going back to MUDs and IRC. It may, of course, have had multiple independent origins.

  • The wiki should have a glossary

    Also add AFK = Away from keyboard
    RK = Random kindness
    and these from AwesomeCardinal

    Or if you use global
    Poop, bacon, boobs or "blocked" ;)

    Personally, the only two phrases anyone ever really needs to know are:
    Aw, sloth knockers and prisencolinensinainciusol
