Has the mail bug for attachments been fixed yet? Because as of this morning I still can't get my lottery ticket from the LAST go round, and effectively lost 100 currants on it as quick picks apparently weren't written down.
Ur is a competitive place. Everyone wants your hard earned currants. Especially shady gambling operations that have horrible odds.
So why should you participate in The Giants Lottery over all the others?
Are we shady? Yeah. Maybe a little.
Do we have horrible odds? Oh, yes. TERRIBLE odds.
So why us?
- It's only 100c! Other lotteries charge 2/3 of an apartment!
- You get to pick you own numbers! Others have you randomly select a ticket from auction. With us you pick. (Or not. We'll pick if you want.)
- Actually we don't have numbers. We have Giants! And the Rook! That's, as the say in Shimla Mirch, a whole lot Glitchier.
- The suspense is the fun! Sure. Instant gratification is dandy, but in the 5 or so days until the drawing you can still dream. With the other guys, the dream is over right away. We don't kill the dream til Friday.
- We do a live drawing. Well, rolling. With a 12-sided die. So if you are online at the time, you can actually witness the roll as it happens. It's like the PowerBall on TV... except I'm not as pretty as the PowerBall lady.
- And, perhaps most importantly, our prize money is HUGE! And with every ticket sold, it gets bigger.
So, hey. Why not try us. We're all trying to take your money, but we do it in style,
ALERT! ALERT!
Prize money update!
We've cross the quarter million mark! Current prize total: 257,061 currants.
Also having to institute new policy: We cannot accept random pick order of more that 5 ticket from any individual. If you have already sent in orders, they will be filled but after today, no more. (It's pain in the ass.)
You have until 12:01am Friday, Oct 14th to order. But why wait?
We at Elbow Grease™ would like to mention The GAR Foundation for its tireless support for the Giants Lottery. It regularly purchase large blocks of tickets using a system that is pretty much incomprehensible.
When we say large, we mean large. Insanely large. So large in fact that we don't take a percentage off the top of their purchases and pour it straight into the prize money.
So at tax time, think of making a donation to The GAR Foundation.
Also: We were super tired and our of it last night while sending out tickets. There is that inkling in the back of our minds that we may have made some mistakes. If you have ordered tickets and any of the following have happened, please IM or send us some Frog Mail:
• Got a letter but no ticket were included.
• Got a ticket but numbers were wrong or not enough of them.
• Got letter but instead of a ticket it was what appeared to be Uncle Friendly/Helga slash fic.
• Did not receive any letter at all.
(Reminder you do NOT have to be at the drawing to win. Results will be immediately post here. BUT you must send in winning tickets by the end of Sunday, Oct 16th.)
NOTE: You do not have to attend the drawing. The results will be posted here (both in in a new post an at the top of the original post. BUT you must still have possession of the ticket to claim the prize. If you win, you have until the end of Monday to send it to me. Prize money will be split amongst all winning tickets on Tuesday morning.
If you currently have any issue with tickets, send me a message within the next 5 hours. After that time there will be very little costumer service can do for you.
I'm going to keep the final prize total a secret until the drawing.
A little late for me, I'll have to go to bed with the suspence and come read the forums first thing in the morning :)
This is getting exciting, thanks for posting the time and for all the hard work that must be involved!
(Might be more as some records were destroyed in an ill timed laptop crash.)
I quick thank you to everyone who play. And everyone who donated paper or random things. Such nice Glitchen out there.
A special shout out to The Gar Foundation. Their enthusiasm was massive. I may have done the labor but the MASSIVE amount of ticket they bought is why the prize money got so high.
I will not be doing another one anytime soon. If someone else wants to run with the idea, please do. It's great way to get to know people but a lot of work. If some wants, I would gladly share what I learned (and give some thoughts on what I'd do differently).
Weren't player run lotteries forbidden? I've heard from players that were told to stop by staff members, and even threatened to have their accounts deleted if they didn't.
@Macadamia Ellicott: I'd say it's probably okay, given that this thread has been on the front page for quite some time and there hasn't been any protest
I was told by staff members to stop or my account could be deleted(if I did it again) for writing notes for a lottery, but also a staff member has posted in here saying the exact opposite (that this is okay), so I wonder what the actual official stance is? At least one of them has known for at least a week.
Thoughts?
1) I started this the day of launch and perhaps they were waiting for it to just be completed.
2) Because of the live drawing/rolling their was less chance of fraud. (Still chance. I tried to lessen it as much as possible.)
3) This did not occupy the auctions. Potentially that was an issue.
4) My cut was small (and ended up being much less than my stated % cut. My cut ended up being closer to 5 to 8%).
5) There is a slight a chance I had built up some good will.
Honestly, as fun as this may have been for folks, it was a huge pain in the ass and i don't recommend it to anyone.
