  • I'd rather spend on my house than on clothing for my tiny little avatar where you can hardly see what I'm wearing anyway..
Posted 7 months ago by Fleep Subscriber! | Permalink
  • *nods* :( I'm sad about that too. It costs a lot. So I won't be able to have almost any upgraded furniture at all...

But in other hand I'm happy I can finally have more than 2 trees! perhaps 10? Is there a limit?I'm not sure, but I hope we'll be able to have many trees!

  • I suspect that as time goes on, and people get to re-decorating, second-hand furniture will be available everywhere for both currants and goods trades.  I wouldn't worry too much.

  • I'm eagerly awaiting the moment when all the credits I purchased double at the end of beta. :X

  • yup buy credits now, so that they double soon. bargain.

  • Yep, not really excited about playing house. Liked the old ones just fine. Not sure free options will be anything but plain and boring.

  • I really like the free options, chose them for my 'old' new house.  They are cosy at any rate!

  • I'm already tallying up how much all the firebog decorations will cost me. XD 375 credits! Less than I thought! Not bad!
Posted 7 months ago by Drakani Subscriber! | Permalink
  • There's no "strategic" advantage to people with money. As far as I know all of the cost-y things are just cosmetic. It doesn't effect what resources you get or anything.

Also, I hope that worrying about money isn't going ruin your Glitchy time. Everyone has to worry about money enough as it is. But it's not an actual handicap in Glitch like it certainly can be in real life.

  • Oh... too bad.  I don't usually use credits.  *Bawls*

  • Dr No-no, can you describe the advantage that having pretty furniture will give you?
Posted 7 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Pretty furniture = status, and then chicks.

So its obvious why its needed.

  • Hmmm, in an indirect way, yes. But its not like currents are hard to make with or without a subscription.  -shrug-
Posted 7 months ago by Melting Sky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • ah but those who gather enough currants have an advantage over those who cant play enough to purchase from the auction. This does not mean its not still an advantage to invest real coin, but it does mean a time investment is just as good.
Posted 7 months ago by jiva Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But then people that are either unwilling or unable to purchase credits will still be able to get the furniture, which is nice. :) As Glitch isn't really a competitive game, I don't particularly care if someone has more credits than I do. Granted, those with more currants can have more control the economy, but already we have people with huge amounts of credits who can do that anyway. If someone wants to spend so much real cash that it gives them obscene amounts of currants... well, good for Tiny Speck. XD Then they have more financial resources to continue improving the game. :)
Posted 7 months ago by Drakani Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Dr. No-No wrote: Yes, there is an advantage, as stated in the staff topic items *will* be available in auctions, only those with credits will be able to craft such items, thus giving them an advantage over free users.

So someone uses their RL money to earn Glitchen currants.  But currents are so easy to accumulate people will pay hundreds for a doll or wind up toy and millions for a stick or pickle. I really still can't see a 'strategic' advantage

  • Great point Drakani, I love what tiny speck do enough to invest a little.. I've not got masses of money but for the cost of going to the cinema, i've sat here and played and paid to play instead.

  • Guys, this is glitch. No one plays this game to make a quick buck at the expense of others! I will damned sure be happy to help people get credit-only/sub-only furniture at a good currants price. I know I'm not the only one, either!

  • You can't "win" or "lose" this game - so there's no such thing as an advantage. OK, subscribers can make and sell cool furniture for currants. What advantage does having a boatload of currants give anyone?

  • Ok, what Favorable or Superior position does having a boatload of currants give anyone?

There's nothing to win or lose here.  There's not even leaderboards to show who has the most currants or most levels.  What is the measure of superiority that you're using?  And how will you ever know if I have more currants than you do?

  • Personally I dont care at all about the styles or costs.  I'm planning on having one floor covered ceiling to flor with SDBs.  Best decoration EVER.

  • Seriously, how do you expect Tiny Speck to make any money? They gotta charge something. And I highly doubt anyone's gonna pay money for currants, or things they can get for free with a bit of time. That's just a plain waste of money.
Posted 7 months ago by SeerQueen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It`s not so much the plain and boring that bothers me but rather the strategic advantage those with money to spare now have.

There isn't anything strategic about Glitch.  How can you have a strategic advantage?

Prettier house perhaps, but really, that's one of the things that's wrong with the game when looking at the big picture - it is morphing into a large complicated dress-up game.

  • Great, I already know how to use a dictionary, thanks :)

And a copy/pasted dictionary definition totally doesn't answer my point - what is the favorable position? A subscriber can make furniture that someone else (who doesn't have/want a subscription can then buy for currants, not real money) buy. Said subscriber gets currants. Yay! Currants are awesome. Allegedly. You can buy things with them. Awesome. Er... at this point, this is something that any glitchen can do. I can rack up currants like nobody's business (and have) just harvesting stuff and posting on the auctions, or hauling it to a vendor, or heading to the AL with an adequate quoin multiplier. Do you know what I do with those currants? Pretty much they just get tithed to my icons, those greedy bastards. Maybe, if I cut off my icons, I could rack up enough to buy a rare item - but if I do or don't, my gameplay is not affected a single iota.

    Really, I sincerely don't understand.

  • I'm team Tiny Speck here.

As much as we all love this game, and know they do, they're not doing it for the fun of it. They're here to make a profit, while giving us a great time. They don't shove advertisements down our throat, and it's not like Zynga where you have to pay to be able to play....(or WoW or Eve or any of the others....)

Imagine if you worked at a cafe that gave food to everyone, for free. That same cafe offers a slightly more complex meal for a small price. You're REALLY going to be mad that they're trying to recoup some of their costs?

The sense of entitlement is overwhelming sometimes.

  • Oh, and I'm FAR from having money to spare (single mom of a 5 year old, living on far *below* poverty level income) , but I've put a tiny tiny bit back every month instead of going out to the movies or for drinks with my friends to pay for my subscription and support everything TinySpeck does.
Posted 7 months ago by NutMeg Botwin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think they say we can trade upgraded furniture, so ppl with a lot of credits might sell some for currants...
Posted 7 months ago by Tsuki Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm perfectly fine with upgrades that cost some real money. Also - trading! I'm just glad, like NutMeg said, this place isn't like Zynga, with hard energy limits and mechanics that try to force you to buy to have any sort of game advantage.

TS has to make a living somehow. The better they're doing, the better Glitch might be.
Posted 7 months ago by Laerwen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • No, it's not a superior situation. Because it doesn't confer any advantage in a game with no strategy or winning/losing endpoint. In this game, unlike in RL, a lot of currants means diddly-squat. Having an awesome bog cabinet doesn't mean I harvest more cherries from a fruit tree. It just means I have awesome bog cabinet. Selling an awesome bog cabinet for currants ALSO doesn't mean I harvest more cherries from a fruit tree. It just means I have more currants than I did before I sold the awesome bog cabinet. With those currants I can... tithe my icons some more, buy some stuff from auction, heck, maybe one day I'll get a dusty stick. None of which lets me harvest more cherries from a fruit tree.

You're looking at this from a RL perspective, where more currants/money definitely does convey an advantage. But look at this from a glitchen perspective, where more currants basically means nothing, and the "advantage" disappears.
Posted 7 months ago by blitheandbonny Subscriber! | Permalink
  • A boatload of Glitch currants is about s advantageous as a boatload of dandelion blossoms in real life.  Sure they can be purchased, but what advantage do you have once you own them?

  • Dr. No-No, I had your same argument a couple of months ago. It got ugly, things were said, feelings were hurt...but in the end I made some nice friends from it.

  • Honestly, I recently subscribed simply as I love this game and wanted to support the site.  Until now, the only benefit I got from that were the teleportation tokens, which is nice.  However, I still have my 400 credits sitting there, unused, as I don't find the avatar upgrades all that exciting.  I'm glad to be able to have something to use my credits on that I enjoy, while helping the site advance at the same time.

Are the fancy furniture and decorations necessary to the game?  Absolutely not.  If I couldn't afford to subscribe, it wouldn't bother me a bit to be without those things.  If I wanted something badly enough, I'd be happy to pay currants to buy them from a player that could afford them.  The things that actually will give you a benefit, like yard upgrades, will be purchased using IMG points, and that's available to any and all with hard work.

  • And those rare items are about as useful as the dandelions.  They don't do anything.  They are simply pretty.    And anyone who wants them can earn enough currants within the game to buy them.

In fact, anyone who has bought them up until right this very minute has EARNED those currants.
They didn't give anyone an advantage in the game.

elf may be right.  It's the chicks you're after.
Posted 7 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Why will people with credits even want to sell stuff to those without if currants are as easy to come/pretty much worthless by as everyone is saying then?
Surely it would make more sense to them to hang on to their credits for any future stuff that will be released that requires them...

  • Windborn said it perfectly!

Posted 7 months ago by NutMeg Botwin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Mathilda, my bet is that you'll see a whole lot more upgraded furniture being given away as gifts than being used to amass currants.
Posted 7 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • ::shrugs:: And now you're just presuming that a rare item is an advantage in itself, which I submit is not, for reasons which I've already stated above. I was not an original beta tester, so I've never seen a - what's it called, a Senor Funpickle? I certainly don't have one, have no idea what it does, and honestly couldn't care less. Would I like one? Sure! I'm a hoarder at heart, I want ALL THE THINGS. But having or not having a rare item like the pickle thing has no effect on my gameplay. Unless it gives me iMG, in which case I'll concede this point, but only this point.

(Does it give iMG? In that case, let me go raise some currants.)

But even then, only in the case of truly obsessive players who HAVE to have ALL THE THINGS (I don't HAVE to have ALL THE THINGS. I just WANT them) and are obsessive to the point of trading real money for currants (which I'll argue is pathological) would it be favorable.
Posted 7 months ago by blitheandbonny Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The ability to essentially purchase a "boatload" of currants is a favourable or superior situation on it's own is it not? Posted 15 min ago by Dr. No-No | Permalink
absolutely not! I earned every single last one of mine and damn well enjoyed doing it.
