Gameplay Updates - Nov. 30

So amidst all the un-launching excitement, today we’re also giving you a taste of improvements to come with several new and shiny additions to the game.

First on the list is a series of skills that will entice your inner brewer, bottler, and magician.

In the beginning, there was Hooch. And now you can make it yourself, with the new skill Distilling. All you’ll need is to rustle up some Grain, Corn or Potatos, and buy a Still to start your own Hooch-making operation. Now that you’ve got the power of distilling at your fingertips, Hooch will no longer be sold at Grocery Vendors.

You may be thinking, “This Hooch better do something more than just get me buzzed.” Well, it certainly does. Another new skill, Tincturing, lets you combine Hooch with herbs to produce Tinctures with a Tincturing Kit. Each can be imbibed to receive various buffs (gotta test them to find out). But, Tinctures can also be used as ingredients in the last, and most exciting of the new skills... It’s all coming together, eh?

Ta da! Potionmaking I and II. With these, you can craft Potions with the power to bring about ‘magical’ effects on yourself or items and animals in the word. Curious about just what effects these might be? Well, they include anything from increasing your daily coin limit to conjuring rainbows that throw players into the air. The base ingredients for potions will be a few items you’re very familiar with, and one or two you haven’t heard of before.

Next up, every Glitch who has reached level five will now be able to catch a glimpse of the 11 Secret Spots that make up an integral part of their DNA. When you happen upon one of the locations that hearkens back to your own roots, be prepared for a mystical experience.

Finally, there’s a new set of skills (that you may have heard a bit about before): Unlearning I to III, which will allow players with a bunch of skills under their belt to unlearn a few that they don’t really have a use for in order to learn other skills faster. A few pointers:

  • Each Unlearning skill level increases the rate of unlearning

  • You can’t ‘pause’ unlearning.  If you start learning another skill midway through unlearning a skill, any progress towards unlearning that skill will be lost.

  • If a skill you’ve learned is a requirement for another learned skill, the latter must be unlearned first

And that's a wrap!

Update! Unlearning skills, like their Better Learning compatriots, now will not contribute to the time penalty of learning future skills.

  • I'm confused by :
If a skill you've learned is a requirement for another learned skill, the latter must be unlearned first.
you mean if you UNLEARN a skill that is required for another skill the other must be unlearned first... ahh.. yeah.. gotcha. thanks blankY!
but thank you for the fantastic updates :)

  • These changes are really cool! Thanks, Blanky, for the update.  :D

Meanwhile, I can no longer name/rename my bags. What's up with that?

    Am I in a Time-Out?!  ;-)

  • Ugh, I have 3 and a half days left of my current skill before I can learn the new ones.

*debates losing the super fast learning*

  • Great! New things to learn and fiddle with!
Just one question, will it be possible to tinker a Still and a Tincturing Kit?

    Great work TS!

  • does unlearning add 3% to total learning time?

  • Whoa!! What an excellent surprise!! Thanks for all the hard work TS!!

  • So, Potion Making III requires level 61, but our levels are maxed at 60? Has the level limit been changed, or is PMIII not actually available yet?
Posted 13 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Coffeesnob, bag re-naming has been fixed!
Posted 13 months ago by Blanky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Anaglyph & Audaria, Potionmaking III isn't available yet, that's why it's been made impossible to learn. All in good time though.

  • this is so cool :D

  • Loving it...now if you would just consider letting us grow herbs in our gardens regardless of where we live...I'd be one fabulous happy totally satisfied camper!!!!!!  Just a thought...was I subtle enough????

  • Why not bureaucratic arts III? Its in the enclopedia (along with gum tree spigots).

  • Does learning Unlearning I, II, and III add to the cumulative learning penalty?
Posted 13 months ago by Lucille Ball Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh, I just got my still going. Great visual effects, y'all! It shakes as it operates, and you can see the liquid moving up the coils.
Posted 13 months ago by Aldebaran Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I Still need disstilling.
Posted 13 months ago by ugli Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Lucille Ball, the various unlearning skills do add to the overall learning penalty. Edit: But soon they won't!
Posted 13 months ago by Blanky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And when you collect the hooch from the still, a little hooch bottle appears under the spout, and you see it pouring into the bottle.
Posted 13 months ago by Aldebaran Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Also, discovered by leaving a still on the floor of my house for someone else to pick up that stills cannot be stolen!

Would like to see that for the RHK equipment too (I checked, not yet).
Posted 13 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The info screen for the still doesn't tell where you can buy it. FYI: The Hardware vendors sell them. (I looked for it first at a Kitchen Tools vendor, but they don't have them.)
Posted 13 months ago by Aldebaran Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks, Blanky!  So you'd want to shed at least one skill per level of Unlearning to make II and III worthwhile.  Interesting choice.
Posted 13 months ago by Lucille Ball Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Tool vendors as well
Posted 13 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So you have to be level 5 to find DNA spots?
Posted 13 months ago by Emilia Rosalinda Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I love the idea that everything that is currently available only from street vendors will eventually be able to be created by players, and hence available on auction.

I really don't like Unlearning at all, but that's a topic for another post.
Posted 13 months ago by Plurp Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The still also whistles when some of your hooch is ready :) I LOVE THIS.

  • This looks so cool!  ^_^

  • Great!  I stopped my skill learning because I didn't see anything that interested me and I wanted to wait to see what new skills would be introduced.

Think I would like to unlearn levitation but that is the only one.
Posted 13 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And hooray for tincturing if it means I'll have a use for all the herbs I've been hoarding.   A bit of a bummer that I have to learn Distilling before I can learn tincturing.  I have no intention of ever using the distilling skill - I'd rather buy the hooch from others - so I hope I can unlearn it later after I've learn the tincturing skill
Posted 13 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • IRL a lot of herbal tinctures and extracts (spices, too) are done in alcohol, it's possible the hooch will be needed for the tincture and potion recipes :)
Posted 13 months ago by Nixified Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You can also get the Still and the Tincturing Kit from the Alchemical Goods vendor.
Posted 13 months ago by niemand Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Edit: Never mind, ignore me. I'm being dense.

  • @Blanky

Ah, Potion Making 3 disappeared. I had wondered why you hadn't mentioned it. Glad Audaria saw it too otherwise I might have thought I'd imagined it myself.
Posted 13 months ago by Anaglyph Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Potion making 3 is still referenced in potion making 2 ("needed for...")

  • "conjuring rainbows that throw players into the air"

Splank fighting will be so much more fun!

  • So lovin' the still!!
And the fact that you can start the brewing process and then go traveling or log off and it keeps on working while you're gone!!
Posted 13 months ago by JoJoJoey Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Potion making sounds awesome, can't wait to get that one inside my tiny little mind.
Posted 13 months ago by Mr LaserExplosion Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Seven minutes until I'm done with Potion Making I! Already got my cauldron; can't wait to see which potions are available and get a look at the ingredient lists.
Posted 13 months ago by Aldebaran Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Corn, Grain, and Potatoes, eh?   Basic hooch then.  Hmmm...

How about Distilling 2, where you can use Rice and various fruit to make Sake, Brandy and Wine?
Posted 13 months ago by WallyMcBeal Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Treesa you can't unlearn a skill that is required for another. Distilling is required for tincturing so u would have to unlearn tincturing first before unlearning distilling. . .
Posted 13 months ago by Clickadee Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yay for Unlearning! I love the "regress bar" :-D I'm a little sad that
    a) I can't spend favor (at either an appropriate shrine for the skill being unlearned, or at Cosma's shrine only), to speed the process, but since it seems to be at base, not penalized learning time, I can't complain too much. It'd be nice to have the option even for a max 25% speed up or something. Hmmm.... OR, what about voluntarily INCREASING unlearning time (up to 100% of original skill) in return for MORE favor -- reverse the favor-for-time thing completely? :-D
    b) My rock isn't hitting himself on the head with a book (or flipping backwards through his book, or watching tv. ;-) or something) while unlearning, he's just sitting there.

but those are quibbles. I'm quite happy with the skill itself! Thanks!

  • Can I just say that the name and design of the ultimate potioning badge cracked me right up? (Some days I am twelve years old, mentally. NOT IN ACTUAL AGE, so nobody call the COPPA cops, 'k?)

  • I'm confused as to the benefits of the unlearning skill. At this point I have just about got every skill, including tincturing and distilling...why should I invest my time in unlearning?
