What is the point of Unlearn?

Correct me if I am wrong but is it not possible to learn all the skills, given enough time?
I can see how anybody would want to unlearn a skill in order to reduce the learning time of some other more needed skill, but apart from this scenario, any other use?

  • There's nothing restricting anyone from learning every skill, most people would just not want to have such a long learning period when new skills come out. And to be honest there are a lot of skills that are useless and not really worth it anyways.

  • The primary use would be to reduce the learning time penalty incurred by skills you don't need/want/use.

In my case, I happened to learn a few random skills when I first started the game that didn't fit in with how I role-play my character, so unlearning them made me feel better about the skill tree when I view it.

  • Advice: Don't ever unlearn better learning.

  • I don't know... The majority of skills I've left to learn require between 19 hours and 1+ days to complete.
I suppose it's a matter of perception; to me it's the same to learn Saucery II in 19 hours 33 minutes than to learn Croppery III in 1 day 4 hours 39 minutes.
Also, I suspect that the time it would take for me to learn Unlearn (9 hours 33 minutes) would roughly equate to the reductions in learning times for the other skills.

  • I guess because I don't actually play this game all that much, so the those long learning times don't really affect me. I select one, go on my day, come back and its done. But lots of people on the other hand are impatient and probably want it as soon as possible.

  • I would gander that as more skills are released the need for unlearning will be greater.  I hope that in the Future the skills will be comparable to what eve online has (well maybe not that many)  in EVE you can learn every skill it will just take you 25 years. At a certain point players will have to decide if they want to be the master of one skill set or be the jack of all skills , and the master of none.

  • the first people to  have distilling where the first to put hooch back on the market.

They where able to auction it large prices

some of those, in turn went on to be the first to make tinticures and potions

again, first on the market sets the price.

By having a limited skillset (37 +BL1-5 + UL - "saved amount") you can quickly learn, without penalty whatever number of skills you saved.

Can you picture your character with 30 skills?  Cooking enough for master chef to make your own awsome stew?  Mineing 5?  Do you really need more then 3 levels of tinkering?

Personally, I need it all.  Each new skill that comes out is days of waiting before I can try it.

  • It makes it a bit faster to learn a new skills. Potentially much faster if you unlearn a bunch of stuff you don't want. And if you want to learn all the skills, then unlearning would be a requirement.

I have only unlearned one skill so far, and I have left several undone. I'm on unlearning 3 now.

I use donations and emblems, potions and drinks to speed learning, our need for speed is built into the game.
