Chat Text Size

How can you enlarge the chat text size?  I'm running Firefox 14.0.1 and the zoom text doesn't work for that.  Neither does NoSquint or Theme and Style Changer.  Running 1680x1050 on 22 inch LCD screen - everything is nice and sharp, just small.  Is there a setting somewhere?

Since this is all web Flash/HTML  based, I'd think it would be a straightforward fix to add a size tool.

  • You could try just going into your computer display settings and change the text size there. Or going into the options page in Firefox and resetting the font to see if that helps. There is also a checkbox for whether or not you wish a page to load in its own font or the one you've set. Play around with that to see if you can get it right for you.

  • Unfortunately, there is no way to change it right now — sorry about that Wally! (As for it being simple — you'd be surprised ;)

We'll be looking into full screen mode and zooming in the future, but nothing any time soon. If you can live with the other side effects, you could set the monitor to a lower resolution which would automatically make everything else bigger.

  • If you're on a Mac, you can try using the Universal Access control panel to get various zoom options. (Make sure to choose the option for the screen image moving only when the pointer reaches an edge, though -- otherwise you'll get totally seasick, ha!)

I believe there's a similar thing on the PC. In both cases it's a system-wide setting, not one that's specific to any browser or other application.

On a Mac, it will zoom everything, not just the text, but you have a pretty big screen so you might find it worth a try, and the text is way more readable. I have a friend with vision problems and she found that taking advantage of her system's built-in accessibility options worked quite well for her.

    Good luck!

  • To elaborate a bit -- all the text in the game is rendered by Flash, inside a full screen browser object. None of the text is controlled by the browser.

There is a way to communicate browser-level scaling to Flash, something I've been whining / wishing for, for months. Based on stoots reply above, I am suspicious there is a technical hurdle holding this back, most likely some calculations being done in device pixels and others happening in displayed scaling (causing art to shown in the wrong place, or the wrong inventory slot registering the click)

  • Ah! That explains it.  I was thinking the game window was flash, and the chat text column was a CSS Div.  Alas, not it seems.  Flash is it own world, so I get it now.

Thanks for the explanation.  I won't hold my breath, but I do hope some sort of text scaling is in the future!

  • *nod* Spell check doesn't work in the browser, for example, and when there are nifty draggable house/tower bugs, you can get stuff like this: oi46.tinypic.com/2mzkxut.jpg
