What does Glitch mean to you?

I publish a not-for-profit e-zine, PEA GREEN BOAT, and the theme of an upcoming issue is "Whimsy." A large section will be devoted to Glitch life and culture and we are looking for personal stories, specifically taking a look at how Glitch allows you to experience an alternate life.Anonymity for contributors is absolutely guaranteed.  Generally, PGB interviews are conducted via email -- we send roughly 5-10 questions and set a time to have the answers returned by -- but with Glitch we've been doing a number of "in game" interviews where MoM4.5 sets up a time and place and uses the IM clipboard paste feature to 'interview' someone. The in game interviews generally -- depending on lag and connections -- take about 15-20 real time minutes. Either of these methods of interviewing are acceptable or you may wish to write an essay or open letter about your Glitch experiences. If you are interested, please contact PGB through our contact page before June 15, 2012 Thank you, Cathy Reed Weber, Publisherpeagreenboat.site-kitchen.com

  • I'd love to do an interview but I find my glitch life is practically a copy of my real life--I even dress my glitch like me.  Not really an alternate for me.  Sounds like fun though!  I hope you get a lot of responses.

  • In Glitch, I have been doing kind things to other Glitchen (yes, TO) as a form of personal quest.  Whenever I can't think of something to do within the provided structure of the game, like a quest or acquiring an item, I pick some lucky Glitch and do something unexpectedly kind to them.

I picked up this habit from other players, actually.  And since playing for several months, I found myself using this same mode of thinking in my daily life.  I haven't really picked it up much yet, but it's growing on me for sure, and much easier to do on a whim now.

It could be about imagination.  It could be about expressing myself.  It could be about role playing.  And yes, I've done all three, of course.  That's the framework of the game.  But, to me, Glitch is about doing silly but kind things to other people you don't know.

Anyway, that's my statement.  I'm happy to answer any specific questions in game or via mail, if you like.

  • This is really interesting. Even if I'm not interviewed, I can't wait to read the article either way. I really liked the issue about transhumanism.

  • Glitch is my escape from RL. It helps keep my mind off stupid things in RL and keeps my mind on stupid things in Glitch.

  • I agree with Eye Wonder. When my kids go down for a nap, it's mommy time and I jump on glitch. I find friends, stuff to do, goals, and accomplishments that I don't necessarily have in RL. (Yes, my glitch home is a bit cleaner than RL. Maybe I need SDB's in my home)

I meets those needs in me that I can't do in RL. That may sound sad but I don't think so. I love my RL, but Glitch is definitely an escape, in a good way. Much the way reading a book is an escape.

I think being interviewed would be fun!
