[UPDATED] Happy Imagination Day!

Today we pull the giant knife switch to turn on the new Imagination system! We need to squeeze a few chickens and rearrange some bits for imagination, so we are turning off access to the game for a bit today. Your characters will be run through our patented Imagino-matic 5000 to prepare for Imagination.

When we come back, you will almost certainly have a different level (the level curves in the new system are different). You will also be able to spend imagination (iMG) right away, but only on character upgrades (this is NOT the housing reset, so you won’t be charged for land expansion until that happens).

We do not have a hard ETA for when the servers will be back up, but we will provide updates on progress as the day progresses! We will also provide more information on the switch later in the day.

UPDATE (1:15pm PST) - We've completed the player conversion process and now we are testing the various systems affected by the change.  You have probably seen some of the changes to skill learning times and your character!  Even with all the moving parts, we are making good progress.  In a few moments we are meeting to review our progress and determine roughly when the game will reopen to general players.  I will update this post after that meeting.

UPDATE (2:15pm PST) - We are getting close!  Only a few more items to tweak, one last round of internal testing, and then we will open the game again.

UPDATE (3:30pm PST) - Wow, we are on the very last task on the List of Things that *Need* to Get Done Before Opening the Game Again. So, we are doing that, double checking and we'll be back as soon as we possibly can.

  • "We haven't "lost" currants, it's been converted to imagination, you lovable bunch of hysterics."

No, it most certainly was not. It might be in the near future, but I am still at the basic Level 60 amount of imagination. None has been added.

  • Cripes, almost two million currants down the rabbit hole...

  • Ya know, some people upset about their currants being taken away actually actively posted in the thread where they explained why and for what reason our currants would be reduced.

    Food for thought.

  • I guess we'll just have to wait until the dust settles and see where things are because we're all getting excited about something that is still (literally) in progress.....
Posted 7 months ago by Ottavia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If it was converted to imagination, those of us at Level 60 would have different amounts of imagination, but we do not. Therefore, (at least those who had maxed out) did not get any benefit from the loss of currants.

  • I know a few level 60s who have different levels of imagination, so therefore you are wrong.
Posted 7 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • They may have not yet done the conversion, but reduced currants. For some reason. I'm sure it will all work out before we're able to get back in, anyway.
Posted 7 months ago by Crrrystal Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Really? Who? Because every level 60 - see the other thread - that I've encountered has 2,131,519 imagination. So you're wrong.

  • @Saucelah Do you happen to have the link or know how I can look up the thread about currants being reduced? Thanks:)
Posted 7 months ago by Omnika Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @saucelah - I never saw that thread, where is it?

Only right now is seems that being a currant hoarder makes you worse off than being a stuff hoarder...?

  • Holy crap... Just looked at my skills. Time to learn Gardening V has gone from a little over a week to 40 DAYS.

  • I've lost 64% of my currants but like Biohazard I still have the same basic Level 60 amount of iMG

However, I had 0 (zero)  iMG for a long time after others could see theirs, so I'm not getting in to a state about it - yet

  • @Serra and saucelah     I'm not sure it will end up making much difference. With roughly 50% of the economy's currency evaporating (I lost 54.6% of mine), it wouldn't surprise me to see some deflation around Ur. Your Rook's street value may go down if people can't afford the 350-400k price tag anymore.  IF thats how it plays out, we may just be in the same place financially, but without any imagination bonus which we may still receive for the lost currants.

Any economists out there you can check that thinking?

  • Taken from Metra:  Stoot's explanation for the xp and currant conversion to imagination.

  • @Audaria: I have 2,131,819 .. no much difference but there does seem to be a little variation.

  • Audaria my imagination is different.  I'm level 60 now level 42 and my imagination is 2,217, 019.  So in this case Saucelah was correct.

  • Unlearning gone too...

  • Koftun makes a good point - its something that happens in the real world of economics - basically when money supply is taken away the cost of the free market should step in to correct this.  This is a term known as "Stealing" - and thats whats happened to our money - Lets all set up tents called Camp Freedom outside of Tiny Spec's HQ and not wash for a week whilst the Beaurcrocs try and move us on.  Down with capitalism and all that.

  • Ok, so apparently a few of us got slightly less screwed by it than others? There are still many of us who were formerly level 60 who are at the same imagination level regardless of the number of currants lost.
Posted 7 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Wahhh!! My lvl went from 44 to 32!!!! Oh no... plus what am I supposed to do during my lunch break now! but after reading Aeralis' post I'm very happy cause I just finished learning all the skills! Yah!

  • @english thanks for the link. That makes more sense now!

Shame I didn't see that before. I may well have chosen to let my currants drop if I'd been aware of it... Oh well, c'est la vie.

The one thing I was trying to build up currants for? Cubimals... So eventually everything will be craftable - even cubimals?
Posted 7 months ago by geekybird Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't think we can say we got screwed until everything is completely and most undeniably finished. Then people can better decide if they feel screwed over or not. There's just not enough information yet.
Posted 7 months ago by Little Miss Giggles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Nobody has really got screwed.  The game has changed.  It's in effect a new game.  I just can't wait for the new housing updating because I really did 'screw' myself maxing the size of the outside and inside.  I'm going to keep a small abode when I am able (with possibly a second floor).

  • We all knew the economy was due for a giant (pun intended) shake-up. Currant value before ≠ currant value after Imagination. The new values were all clearly graded on a scale, like a form of progressive taxation.

We were warned that grinding to accumulate before the switch was going to be of marginal utility. Do not despair. Wait and see how the new system winds up valuing the things that actually matter to you.

Thank you. Not only until it is all finished but until you can actually see how it fits together.

  • How can anybody say they were screwed??? We all knew what we were signing up for  -- I think Stoot made it very clear when we re-entered Beta.  Plus, they will be giving us a bonus in doubling our Credits.  And, we have had the enjoyment of playing the game and constantly experiencing new stuff as they released it.

Posted 7 months ago by Linksfiresword Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Precisely, LBO.

This isn't even like something that has been changed, and then we have to wait weeks for the next change to show us how it will fit together. It is all changing as we type these responses and will not be done changing until that "several hours" is done.

  • We are on such a rollercoaster right now. I'm aiming to remain positive and wait and see. We're reacting only to the changes to the interface--I'm pretty sure there's way more to this than we're seeing, though it's easy to get freaked watching those numbers shift. Someone-or-other once said that 98% of human misery lies in anticipation. If we can, let's try to wait and see the true lay of the land before we get stampy. Once we get in there and see how things have changed, *then* we can get stampy if we don't like it. ;)

ETA: Yes! The fitting-together of things is important. So: let's wait until we get in there, see what's changed and how things might unfold before getting knickertwisted. Maybe there will even be fewer twisted knickers that way.

  • I know it's very un-glitchlike to say so but right now I really wish the negative people would just stay off the forums.

If I were a dev, and working my butt off trying to make a bigger better awesomer game, I can't imagine how it must feel to check the forums and see people whinging about changes that they were warned of in advance, and people complaining that things've changed, and saying "well I'm not happy about this, I'm not happy about that."

This game and our testing of it is a priviledge, not a right. They owe us nothing, we are not due anything.  Not even those of us who subscribe because we get a bonus at the end, too.  I feel bad for the devs if the negative voices are the loudest. It must be discouraging.

  • I just want the game to reopen. Any word on when that is going to happen? I heartlessly don't care when the game is going to open up to outside players half as much as I care about when the game will reopen to all of us so that we can see what stuff has happened.

Wouldn't it make more sense to debate the timing of launch after we get to do some more beta testing in world? And also maybe after the unhappiness of some players about losing currants has been successfully dealt with?

  • Agreed, Voluptia :) I'm a little sad about the currants right now just based on surface appearances right now (I hadn't read the thread that said they would get reduced before) but there is no reason or point to fret about anything until we see the final product. I have faith that everyone will be appropriately compensated for whatever loss we are imagining now.

  • Hey all you guys freaking out about things changing and currants going away and la la la la: stop it.

You're stuck in your fish-mindset, "HEY I WAS JUST SWIMMING AROUND AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I CAN'T BREATHE GIVE ME MY GILLS BACK" and Tiny Speck's all, "LISTEN DUDES YOU GOT LUNGS NOW. EVOLVE, BRO."

Take a deep breath - from the right intake valve, please - and things'll be okay.
