Sometimes I Plant Purple

Sometimes I plant Purple,
even though I will cop grief.
For of all the herbs in Ur,
Purple's with which most have a beef.

It's not because I'm lazy,
or selfish, cruel, or mean.
It's simply all I have left to give,
after making your street clean.

That's right, I fixed your home street,
that was devasted by another,
with plots broken, projects unstarted,
and some with weeds as a thick cover.

I teleported home and collected many things,
returning to repair, water, and seed.
Whilst doing this I read updates,
and get saddened by my feed.

You see, people are blocking others,
for daring to use their home street,
even though those they block,
are the nicest people you could meet.

They work hard at fixing plots.
Clearing messes left behind.
They replant and move on,
and in turn they're blocked, they find.

What a wonderful way to say thanks,
to those that try to help you.
Those that cleaned up the mess,
of the advantage taking few.

Your home street is not private.
It's a public access street,
that happens to have your home on it.
It's not your private retreat.

I wander around many streets,
fixing projects as I go,
and no I don't just plant Purple,
it's usually a mix I sow.

And in streets where there are signs,
I plant types as requested.
I've even bought from others,
to correctly seed a bed.

With real life and in-game energy nearing zero,
only my in-game mood is at it's max,
and I've done nothing this gaming session,
except repair where others have been lax.

Sometimes I plant Purple,
and I worry that you'll mind,
even though half an hour's passed,
and all I've done is try to be kind.

  • Thank you. I think you've truly said just the right thing there. I did go on a street visit binge and tried to be nice. I've not had any bad comeback but seeing that others have, I have avoided it since.
I've not put out herb or plant crops in my front yard, I've not joined any routes. This way I know anyone coming past my street is to see me or do me a favour by keeping my trees going. Please any of you come by, there is nothing you can do on my street that could upset me masively or could not be put right.

  • I regularly go to other's home-street, primarily farming, but occasionally doing a project or somesuch.  Nobody has ever complained.  If anything, some of the people have come to visit my home street and do nice things for me.  I'm somewhat random in where I'll go, too.

If someone were to block me, though, I guess I'd just avoid that person and keep going.  There are a lot of glitchens, and many more who don't mind a visitor.

It'd be nice if the ones who do mind would at least put up a sign, though... something like 'Git off mah lawn!'

  • This is beautiful.

I have a herb garden in my front yard. Sometimes I log back in, and no one's touched it. Sometimes I log back in and it's been harvested and replanted. Very rarely do I find it a mess.

But no matter what, I just do what needs doing and move on. If I was worried about what was going on with my herb garden, it would join the two I have in my backyard that serve as my yellow crumb factory. ;)

This is the one point that needs to be pounded into (some) glitches heads with a clue-by-four. I've seen posts that were irate that "someone" picked up items left out on the front yard, or that "my" crops had been harvested.

  • Nicely said xombiekitty:) Very nice poem!

Home streets are public, so if you out there do not want others to harvest your herbs , only 1 solution, do not have herb gardens on your home street they would be safe from the public in your backyard.

  • All of you can visit my street anytime! I love visitors but alas I don't get many.

  • Well said, xombiekitty. You're right that folks are over-reacting and over-stressing. Glitch is a place to get away and be carefree. I love it for that reason!  :D

  • Love it! I'm on three routes now and very rarely do I find my plentiful herb plots abused. I quite enjoy the surprise of seeing what others have planted. And even better, when someone has harvested and left them a mess, I've found that someone else tends to clean them up before I get there. I've had a party of glitches show up when I've asked for help restoring resources...

The whole blocking people because I found something I don't like on my street phenomena just makes me sad. I'm pretty sure half the time those people aren't even blocking the supposed culprit.

  • I like this poem very much! I do have a small herb garden and a small crop garden on my street, for visitors. I also help restore broken items on other streets, unless asked not to.

I like visiting other streets, to see what's there...

  • I, for one, would be THRILLED to get visitors (I rarely do). I've been offline a bit, so I haven't heard the new drama -- but I say if someone wants to block me for visiting, at least I'll know who NOT to visit in the future!

It was a lovely poem, xombiekitty, and a lovelier sentiment.

  • Aaaand, someone blocked me recently, heh.

I did my random thing, harvested quite a bit of wood on this person's home street, then used fertilidust to ensure the trees were restored.  The person repaid me by visiting my home street, then blocking me.  So, I blocked the person back.

  • I am sure when they set up the blocking facility it was not intended to be abused in this way.  I wish if someone wanted to block someone they would have to offer an explanation of why and then the person who was blocked should have the right to reply/explain or even apologise if warrented.  I spend a lot of time mending messes left behind by uncaring glitches and I always try to leave a message with the butler explaining what I have done.  But then is feels like I am bragging or something and makes me feel a little weird.  And it is probably a little weird to get the message too.  sigh

  • Love this so much as I also sometimes plant purple (fingers crossed nobody blocks me) so I just had to share a link to it in case not all my Glitch friends read the forums - i hope every Glitch in Ur gets to read your poem.

  • Very nice Kitty,
But people are going to have their peeves and we're not always going to know what they are. The way I see it, if people want to block me they can go ahead and do so, but I'm really a nice person (most of the time) and they'd be missing out on a potential friend if they blocked me because of something I didn't even realize that I did.

  • Great poem Xombiekitty. I love fixing things and planting, I even fill up the piggie feeders!
No one has blocked me yet. I'm shocked that this has happened!   I think that if someone doesn't want something done on their street, they should post a sign!  How simple is that? and it can avoid hurt feelings for being a good Glitchen!!

  • I went a-harvesting on some home streets tonight and found so many abused plots, not cleaned, broken gardens. I spent a lot of time fixing things and cleaning and watering all these crops that had wilted. I do plant a lot of purple. Why? Because it's a quick grow, doesn't tie things up for long, and a fun tincture to make to give out to people. So blah. 8(

  • Very touching Xombiekitty, matching the mood I'm in.

Sometimes these days I worry that with the new home streets we'll get to interact less and less in-person, and with more and more friends leaving for good or for a while so will pass the good, warm feeling of camaraderie and friendship that was the ol' Glitch.

You've given me hope, and that besides SDBs selling stuff and harvest routes there's still some of the old school out there waiting for a new young generation of Glitchens to lead the right way.

  • wonderful and beautiful, xombiekitty :)

I continue to be blocked by people for visiting their streets.  I just wish, if people felt so very strongly about it, they'd just post a little note saying "please dont _____" and I'd gladly respect it.  It makes me sad to be in a situation where someone has in essence prevented the chances of us ever having an in-game interaction just because they want a private home street.

  • Seems I have now also been blocked on some street's which happen to be part of routes. I really don't understand why, I have done nothing to warrant being blocked that im aware of and it's certainly not because i've stumbled on a street where people don't want visitors. Am I mistaken in thinking that the whole point of routes was sharing & maintaining resources for use by the wider community?

I replant herb & crop plots that I have harvested, I help out where I can with contributions toward worn out resources - obviously this depends on if I have the items needed and how much of them I have either in my bags or at home and if I come across a street thats messed up i'll replant if I enough have seeds with me - this is mostly where my 'sometimes I plant purple' moments come in because a plot full of purple is better than one that is empty and un-hoe'd, at least in my mind it is.

The whole thing saddens me really and leaves me feeling somewhat discouraged. Im seriously debating if I should just go back to being a hermit - no buying from towers, no visiting routes or home streets ect.

  • Perhaps it would be helpful if the people who HAVE blocked visitors would explain what caused them to take the action. They don't have to identify anyone. Just give an example of what ticked them off. If visitors don't know what you want them to do (or not do) you can't blame them if they do something you don't like (harvesting all with no replants; taking freebies without dropping something else).
It may be common sense & common courtesy to many but, obviouly, not to everyone.
Home owners need to post signs ("Please tidy the beds"; "Please don't restore a project"; Please take what you need & leave something", etc.)
Visitors - read the signs before you start using the resources.
With the influx of newbies there may be some real misunderstandings to come.
    Consideration from both sides.
