Senor FunPickle, where's my GNG?

Since the Great Reset, I've been playing with my Special Item Only Beta Testers Get a.k.a Senor FunPickle, in the hopes that I will one day get the coveted Musicblock GNG. I'm quite confident that I've experienced all of the outcomes from the pickle (based on what was listed on Glitch Strategy) and so now I ask you all if lately has anyone received the Musicblock from their pickle, or was that a limited time sort of thing? OR is there a super secret outcome that I have yet to encounter?

  • Keep playing with it! It should come...as it were. It isn't a limited time thing as far as I know. About a month ago, a friend got a GNG from a virgin pickle, so they're still appearing in the world. It took me a lot of plays before mine showed up (30? 40?).

  • Now that just gives me more drive to play with my pickle! XD Though I don't even know the amount of times I've played with the to this day.

  • Was your pickle owned by someone else before you received it? If so it is possible that they've already had the GNG.

  • It took me a ton of plays before I got mine. I'd guess over 50.

  • OH no, the Pickle has been mine since the beginning. As of now, I usually just believe it has a vendetta against me because I refuse to type anything around people when it bestows me the Comedian buff, though I'm sure in reality it's just a Pickle and i'm just a Glitch who stubbornly plays an waits to get my GNG.

  • My understanding is that they nerfed the pickle so that one and only one GNG would be produced per pickle. Apparently there were some players who farmed out their pickles to harvest extra GNGs, and that spoiled it for the rest of us. :-P

  • It took me a long time too (and mine was second-hand). I kept using it and eventually hit the moonwalk emote, which was the last one. (It's not based on the number of uses, it's based on getting each possible emote.)

  • Well, I've had my pickle since the great reset as well. Never got the GNG from it either and I must have played with it a couple hundred times since I got it. Never got the block. I got my GNG block about 3 days after the reset for about 1,000 currants. Never from the pickle.

  • Hm. I've been collecting music boxes, and now I guess I know why I never see the GNG posted. I also now know why I guess not only am I not likely to, but that it'll be way out of reach if ever it is.

    I guess I'd say to the designers;

    As a new player I find this sort of 'business' not just discouraging, but ridiculous.
    I've never been one for pre-order, or 'elite items'- or any of that anyway- but whatever. Ok, so you want people to know 'they didn't and can't get certain 'neat stuff' just because they weren't selected for beta', or 'too bad you just found out about the game'?- ok. Do that.

    What really sucks is the lack of info surrounding so many of these things. I've gotten a couple 'collection badges'- and I have actually gotten the music box one already (minus GNG of course), but I never would have known _not_ getting the GNG would cover it without just plugging ahead anyway or some research out-of-game.

    I mean, it's all 'digital garbage' anyway, (although music boxes do award img) so whatever- but as a 'digital world' & community, it sucks to encourage so many 'unearned' 'have & have-not' separators.

    I won't even start on the expensive & limited special items because I assume they're ornamental and I don't really care- but, for the 'avid collectors' that do-- good luck with the system designed to work against your 'social, sharing and trading' customer base.

  • Re: musicblock trophy info: There's enough detail in the trophies section of the Encyclopedia to make it clear with not too much hunting.

    You may find with some diligence certain items are not as out of your reach as you would have thought at first. Otherwise, for people who feel separated from others because they don't have certain things, I suggest they consider if they might not want to focus less on the things they don't have and more on the results of and gains from their own choices in the game, or if that's not possible, to attempt to find a game that provides a more similar gameplay experience from one player to the next.

  • *sigh*
    Can I just say Bio that I have been around for a year now and I have NONE of the rare items. Zero. Nada. But guess what? I'm not ranting about it on the forums. . . Its not hurting me or putting me at a disadvantage. The players that went through the crazy crazy alpha/beta stage DESERVE a present for sticking through the chaos with tiny speck. And can i add we're still in beta 2. You never know what may be coming your way.
    Tl;dr
    Glitch may not be the game for you. Or maybe it is. Who knows. Just don't get all high and mighty over nothing.

  • Diaveborn,
    Yes, there is info everywhere if you learn where to look- this isn't about me or you, but others who don't yet know. For the record, the auction will not link an item to the encyclopedia if there are none offered- though I bet a lot of people don't know it does that at all.

    If you're suggesting it is _not_ a good idea to have (item x of n) right on there, then that's fine. I'm not proposing that- just saying the game interface should make play easier and more fun, not harder and more work.

    Also, this is not a matter of what 'I may find'- and though you may judge 'certain people' in a 'certain light' the point remains that they are players, and potential customers (if not actually already customers). I could just as quickly say the ego-centricity of those who would want to deprive others of a thing (in this case a 'digital asset') so that they may remain artificially 'special/elite' may have bigger issues- but I personally have no problem with this. I'm just saying that I've worked in 4 different collectable merchandise shops (IRL), and when I did I talked _a lot_ to the customers. When someone who used to collect a thing stopped caring, I tried to notice & ask why. This sort of 'inaccessability' of parts of their collection would frequently be the case. If you've ever played 'Magic the Gathering', you may know what sort of thing I speak of- though many other collectable cards, comics and other merch have caused this-- and some are far, far worse.

    But the point is, I'm not talking about me. I'm talking about what people can do in this game, (which could be more- but in this case we're talking about non-rewarded collecting-- people _busying themselves_) and how that is (in a few cases & in my opinion) hobbled by design.

    Also, if you'd rather people game jump because 'they can't get what they want', than Glitch improve, be more social, and more encouraging- then we have different viewpoints there as well. I doubt that's what you meant, but what you said isn't much more encouraging.

    Bottom line- I'm not suggesting Glitch 'give' GNG's or Pickles or re-issue them or whatever. I'm just saying this (in my experience) _will_ lose them players. It possibly already has. As customer service I had to really be friendly to people, make them feel comfortable and willing to share their misgivings in order to find out what was driving their decisions even though 'it was trivial'.
    Read 'trivial, but still affecting buying choices/sales'
    They were 'happy' to just give up unless I could convince them I wanted to try & make it better.

    This is my experience- maybe it can be 'food for thought'
    Glitch staff will do what they want to 'address it' or not. I have just 'voiced my perspective'

    Chickadee,
    I didn't rant, though I guess you can assume what you like. I did string together more sentences than most, so maybe that did it, in which case (due to your tl;dr) you may not even see this. Sorry if you miss it.
    I addressed the 'info about the items' angle, not the *I can't get one* angle you're suggesting. I mentioned acquisition potential in passing.
    Funny you're 'ranting' about other's _opinions_ of observed facts- not in a positive or helpful way, nor in a way that can help developers in the slightest, who, as you noticed, I addressed.
    Also, If you think people 'deserve' more than 'being lucky enough to get in on alpha or beta' at all, that's fine. It's not a rule anywhere I read, but I don't begrudge them, I just mention IRL, that  sort of thing usually backfires long term.

    And again, encouraging people to leave glitch hurts glitch *period*. You people who want to get rid of those with different opinions- criminy...

    Finally your opinion of me is noted. You think I'm 'high and mighty' for whatever reason, and your insightfully accurate name calling gives you the win.
    So there ya go.

    Though I actually am trying to 'help' by sharing my 'unconventional' perspective. That's 'forums' for you. Who knows what person next will think he can go ahead and 'talk' and stuff? It may be wrong, but at least my perspective is honest, based on experience, and attempting to be helpful. If you don't agree with my perspective, you can and should reply- Just as I replied to the thread based on my opinion.

    Thanks for understanding.

  • @Bio: While people may stop collecting item X offline when they can't get a certain rare item, they don't stop living.  Likewise, in Glitch, they might stop collecting music boxes - but there's plenty else for them to do.  If they're only staying for the music boxes, yes, they'll probably leave.  But they'd probably leave once they got it, too!

    And note that Glitch is hardly the first game to have rare items like these.  The only games that it negatively affected the player base are ones where the rare item was overpowered in PVP or the like.  Glitch very much doesn't have that issue.

    Also, 'you' might want to try to 'lay' off the 'air quotes' - it was getting hard to read your last paragraph.

  • @Kadi,
    From a developer standpoint, people being alive is fine- people leaving the game probably isn't. The point isn't 'this one thing'- it's the 'last straw'- and for a game in beta they can see that they do not overlap.

    You are very correct in the item functionality/rarity crossover definitively breaking a game base, but it is also true that in general exclusion breeds discontent, so I'm not trying to overstate it, just point out that it is a factor,

    Thanks- sarcasm is hard to translate, and I appreciate your reading through it despite my clearly ruffled nature. I will try harder in the future to just let it go.

  • Tired and didn't read all of the quotey bits, but:

    I don't at all want to get rid of people with different opinions.  I do, however, know that not all games will suit all people, and that's what I was talking about.

    For the people who are getting disillusioned there are plenty of people who really like it. Higher level players who have more currants than they'd otherwise know what to do with, people who want to focus on those goals versus leveling up quickly or what have you, etc.

    I think the presence of rare items does not *inherently* drive people apart.  People can make it divisive, just as there were tree wars or conflicts in the group mining areas or whatever.  But that doesn't mean that group mining areas are bad or the ability to plant trees out in the wild is bad or anything of the sort.  Leaderboards where we can compare ourselves to another player aren't inherently bad. I don't level quickly and I don't choose to care about the numbers in that area so I just ignore the leaderboards.  And then even when people benefit greatly from things that get later changed around because it's beta, and they are hugely benefited in a way that I'm never going to get the chance to be, I can say, oh well, I made my choices.

    (And yes, I view the acquisition of rare items as somewhat of a choice because while not every player was handed an original yeti or dusty stick or what have you, it's possible to work for the currants and make that your goal.  I think a lot of people just don't even try because they think it's more out of their reach than it probably actually is.  And even if it is out of your hands and you just won't be able to play enough to get currants for that original Glitchmas Yeti, I still feel that the unhappiness that people create for themselves in comparing themselves to other people is not worth not having the items, and the happiness they bring to others.)

    (also, as an aside, over the last little bit I've felt very connected to people through the rare items thing - people IMing me asking if I've found a particular item I was looking for, for example, me talking with people about the rare market, etc.)

  • "Thank you for pre-judging me based on my start date. This clearly is the only factor that can lead to having a relevant opinion."

    No, I am prejudging you on your 'extensive' gameplay of 2.5 weeks which can absolutely give you a relevant opinion, but not one based on long term experience. At this point it is just supposition and jumping to conclusions.

    And my experience here says that kevbob will be by pretty soon with a lock.

  • @diaveborn
    A fair perspective, thanks for clarifying. I agree with most of your points. I think that the idea of unhappiness being caused by not being able to acquire is just one perspective, and frustration with the unfair amount of work required later is another. Those people who got things earlier/beta? Instant/free/easy. Later? Monumental/expensive/impossible. Personally I don't care about the GNG that much- I just would have been happier if I had known the 'spawn' chain that makes it rare when I kept wasting my time checking for it in the auction like it was 'just another musicbox'. Anyway- like I said, not about me- as an ex-CS rep, I know collectors can get frustrated when they see too much of this... being 'penalized' for being 'late'. IRL, if you can get a reprint, most are happy- the hardcore collectors keep trying for 'first editions' or whatever. Digital assets never seem to go that route- they just leave those collectors who might otherwise rabidly love their game dissatisfied. (shrug)
    That is all.

    @MaryLiLamb
    '...but not one based on long term experience'
    and that matters, why? The item is collectable, spawns off a beta item, and the limited dynamic is directly comparable to real-life limited edition things. My short Glitch experience factors in how? if I were higher level it would make it less rare?
    Nice apples and oranging.
    Having  forum people can feel they can express themselves in regardless of level is not your decision, thankfully.

  • Biofells, Thank you for expressing your opinions in a clear and detailed fashion. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you that this is, indeed "one of those boards where you can say anything so long as it isn't critical." There are many people who get very up in arms over any (real or perceived) criticism of Tiny Speck or Glitch. And they are very vocal about it. Personally, I like to see different opinions, whether or not I agree with them. I think everyone - and especially Tiny Speck, in this case - learns more from criticism than from blind agreement. Welcome to Glitch, and I hope your experience in the forums here improves. Keep on expressing yourself.

  • Biofellis, if your problem is that you think GNG is the only musicblock you're missing in order to complete your collection, I am pleased to tell you it isn't. There also exist the much rarer Musicblock SB-1 and Musicblock T-1. GNG probably isn't out of your range. They sell all the time. SB-1... perhaps is, as only one's ever sold, for 30mil or so. T-1, none have sold to my knowledge (although I did have the privilege of hearing this block on one occasion).

    If you really wanted one, you could probably amass the currants in a weekend's time with a little effort. Many have before, and I'm sure you'd be able to do the same with the proper amount of dedication.
    Posted 90 days ago by Justin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ooh, editions!  They hadn't done anything like that until recently, when the relatively new rare items vendor released a "knock-off" imported Glitchmas Yeti. At the time, the real/original Glitchmas yeti, which the item was based on, was going for 15-17million+ and the imported at the vendor was.. 3m? Something like that.  I think a lot of people felt happy that they could get a Yeti "doll" and have the same happy Yeti feel without having to spend upwards of 15mil.

    I'm not sure how it would be implemented (a "knock off" GNG wouldn't sound too good, I'm thinking!) but it's a really neat thought.  I know some cubimals are in that middle range, where it's not like the currant value a bit of basic resources or even some wall segments, but not the currant value of some of these rare items either.  But, that's doesn't work for "satisfying collectable" feel as you don't really feel like it's complete, and you need the rest of the set.

    The rare item vendor's lowest cost item was 250kish I think?  Might be nice to have some stuff later that's in the in-between range.  Stuff that's more common than the rare items vendor, and maybe not even all that rare really. But more items that are "worthless" except for display value, and not in sets so you could get one and feel more satisfied.

    I'm thinking I've heard this idea mentioned somewhere before, too. Could be wrong but I think stuff along these lines has been mentioned.

    And yeah, I totally understand about the differing amounts of work required to get items.  I guess my own perspective on it is just to put my glitchnose to the grindstone and see if I can or if I can't get things, and not feel separated from others if I can't.  I do understand not everyone will feel that way and I know it can be really discouraging to have goals that you feel are not able to be reached.  But I really don't think these feelings are good reasons for saying that rare items are bad and should be eliminated from the game, which I've definitely seen others say in the past.

  • Disagreeing with someone doesn't mean you can't also be critical of the company.  And those critiques are often heard - I used to be pretty vocal about the old housing, and the new housing is exactly what a lot of people asked for!

    And again, I will point out that this is very common in other games, and hasn't seemed to hurt any of them any.  A rare item that's something of a status symbol - especially one that doesn't really do anything else! - isn't game breaking and it isn't driving people away.

  • People disagreeing with a post on a board do NOT render it a forum where critical opinion is not allowed. Criticism cuts both ways.

    It may, however, distress a person to learn that many people disagree with what they have to say. It happens.

  • @Audaria,
    Thanks for clearing that up for me. I appreciate your stepping up and setting me straight. I'm not going to pretend I could not have handled things better here, but all other things being equal, I too would think Tiny Speck would value other perspectives as well.
    I guess I have to go and find my 'kid gloves' if I want to keep posting here...

    @MaryLiLamb (again)
    This isn't about me getting stuff. Go read.

    @Justin Daigle,
    Thanks for the heads up, but it's not really about the music boxes. Not a problem for me.

    @diaveborn,
    I'm glad Tiny Speck has done that, and hopefully will continue with other desired items.

    @Kadi,
    It has and does affect other games- just most criticism/attrition isn't made public. WOW has been a notable exception as far as headlines have been, and as big as they are you can imaging smaller companies probably have similar, though unpublished results.

    @Pascale,
    I'm not sure I get your meaning- I read your post several ways, so I don't want to assume your intent. Sorry.
    I do not expect 'Tiny Spec' has a problem with my criticism, but obviously I have drawn fire from some board members, which may or may not be indicative of the 'general mindset' of the forum. I don't want an uphill struggle when just trying to share perspectives.

    @ Everyone who posted
    Agree or disagree, thanks for trying to set me straight. I appreciate that you at least took the time to state your mind- which is where I started.

    @Anyone else
    This isn't about me getting a GNG- this is about the game dynamics of limited in-game items as applies to 'collectors' (read 'customers'). I know I mentioned I wanted one of these, but I'm not bitter about (not having/getting/needing to work for) it. My main point is how I didn't know the rarity, and how others may be turned off by this sort of thing.
    Posted 90 days ago by Biofellis Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So, reading over some of your other posts, as well as this one, your complaint is that collectors are going to be disappointed by not being able to collect some items. As a collector myself, let me weigh in on that.

    If the items were not (extremely, in some cases) rare, they would have no appeal to me as a collector. There's some common items I've never even had in my possession. Why? They've never been necessary to my gameplay, and if they're common, why should I feel the need to seek them out? Applied to rarer items (but still not those that are limited edition), such as cubimals, I also don't collect these. Yes, I've held one of each of them for the trophies, but aside from the defective chick cubimal and one or two others, I don't really have any. As the number in the game is constantly increasing, they just don't seem all that collectible to me.

    In other words, my point is this: If the items were not difficult to obtain, you would not receive the same level of satisfaction from getting your hands on them. Basically meaning that if the items weren't limited edition, there wouldn't be any fun in being a collector.

    Are there rare items in this game I do not and will not ever have? Yes. Am I asking for them to be made common? No. Because then it wouldn't be rewarding to get them.

  • Biofellis, I think it's good to have your point of view, from handling similar types of things in real life!

    I may have come across a bit harsh at first and if so I am sorry.  There's been a lot of people who are happy about the rare item thing but many people who are unhappy and they say things are bad and shouldn't be a certain way and I disagree with that, and it kind of builds up in my mind somewhat.

    I'm super glad that you made the replies that you did - even if I disagree with someone I totally value hearing a unique perspective and I definitely got some of that from you, so thanks. :)

  • @Justin Daigle,
    I suppose since it's marginally relevant I will say of my background that I've been Assistant Manager of 2 comic shops, and head of non-sports cards in a Sports card shop (don't ask), and just sales in another. This I'm not saying to make me any sort of expert, just to suggest that my opinion (though still potentially wrong) is not just 'off the cuff'.
    Also, I play 'Devils Advocate' quite a bit, so I can often see more than my own 'I want things this way' perspective.
    That said, my complaint isn't actually 'mine'- just something I've learned from talking with collectors.
    That said, all your points are actually valid. Very much so, completely logical.
    That said, :) This is a digital realm, which can change the rules. Not suggesting it should, just saying it can.
    As an example;
    In Magic the gathering there are numbered editions and booster packs.
    The numbered editions are generally 'unlimited print run', while the boosters are (debatably) short run.
    Each have 'commons', 'uncommons', and 'rares'
    Very quickly (from actual distribution) the numbered edition 'rares' become more numerous than the booster pack 'commons'.
    Pricing in guide books doesn't usually change much in spite of this.
    If 'rare' on 'Glitch' was _always_ .1%- even if they were constantly generated, they would still be more 'rare'- even if accessible to newbs.
    I'm not suggesting this happen- just giving an example of how computers are different than publishing.

    @diaveborn,
    Thanks!
    Like I said, I admit I could have handled things better. I'm glad my viewpoint proved valuable to someone, and I too appreciate being heard- even if not agreed with. I'm not necessarily 'right'- but I put some thought having some basis for my perspective, which I hope shows through even though I'm not as clear as I'd like. Thanks for weathering the rough edges!

  • I wish I still had my item. For some reason, I don't have it anymore, and I never gave it away or anything. :( But I was definitely a beta tester, and I used to have the Pickle in my inventory.
    Posted 90 days ago by Mahkia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sweetum, if you're sure that you've gotten the pickle to do all of its actions (and, by the way, if you're not using the comedian buff, it may not have), and it still hasn't produced a GNG, you might as well file a bug report.  It's definitely not fair for some first-beta testers to have functioning pickles while others do not, and staff can just give you a GNG block if your pickle is truly broken.

    I've been testing/playing since alpha, and I think Biofellis pretty much hit the nail on the head when it comes to rare items.  Some people don't care about them, but others are upset that they can't obtain them.  The idea that anyone can work hard and earn enough currants to purchase a rare item is a fallacy, because there isn't enough supply to meet demand.  (I have several rare items, but I'm not going to part with them, partially because I have no reason to -- I like them! -- and partially because I know I'd never be able to get them back.)

    I also agree with Audaria: a lot of players (and even some of the staff) get upset at criticisms of the game, no matter how constructive.  This deters testers from expressing their "negative" opinions, and the lack of dissent gives the erroneous impression that everyone's thrilled by things as they stand.  A couple of months ago I wrote something about new players not having immediate access to the trade channel, and staff actually asked me why I'd care.  It's a good question: should I, or any other tester, give a damn about any of this?  If we do, should we be encouraged to voice opinions, or just told to be quiet until we have something nice to say?

  • *nod* Definitely not trying to say any player could get any and every rare item they wanted. The super rare musicblocks are perfect examples of that! But I do think the general principle stands - especially with a larger variety of rare items now, in different price ranges, people will be able to find something rare that they can set as a goal and work toward.

  • @Mahkia,
    Bug report it.
    I had a glitch when moving stuff once, and they told me what happened- I don't know how detailed their auditing tools are- they may not be able to help you, but it can't hurt to ask.

    @glum pudding,
    Thanks. I hate to say I've seen more than a few examples of the 'top down' attitude some higher ranked players have. They have all this excess IMG & $$$-- 'Nerf this/that- I'm glad ' (they've already milked it- what do they care?). Anyway, keeping an eye towards 'where newbs are at' is not necessary or common- so I admire that you've kept that perspective.

    @diaveborn,
    Funny thing is, I'm just trying to get IMG to rank skills- I contemplate my emblems, go out and revere others icons, and a musicblock 'mixtape' (25 boxes) every morn adds a tiny bit. I had no idea the GNG was such a big deal, nor did I really care except to maybe add another +6 each day (or whatever it actually is- the GNG may be diff, & I think they just nerfed the basic boxes to +5). Anyway, I didn't want it because it was rare, just because it would be a tiny bit more IMG everyday. Definitely not worth crazy rare item $ to me.

  • Yeah, I think the only rare item that's actually useful is the spigot.. everything else is there for aesthetics basically.

  • It's an interesting question: do you want a game where anyone can, in principle, have anything/everything that someone else does?

    I can appreciate the egalitarian impulse behind that notion. But I also understand why TS wanted to reward and/or compensate beta testers or folks who suffered unpleasant bugs.

    It's a useful game development exercise to consider this question and all its implications for the type of society that emerges and how it comes to value its "things."

  • Collectibles virtual or not are something one works toward. It is a goal. Often it is a long term goal to be able to afford the rarer items. Some things shouldn't be easy. Also rare=want when it comes to collecting. If you take away how rare something is...you in turn take away a big part of WHY someone wants it. Things like food and drink and resources and all the common items in-game are not limited. And currants cannot be bought with outside money. If you save you will be able to buy the expensive items here. Also i really don't have any rares for the most part, its been more important to me to play than to collect. I do plan on buying a Spigot eventually, but i'm also not in any rush to do so. Not having things to work toward getting is more detrimental to a game than having everything easy to get. Sometimes its not a good thing to have everything "easy."

  • @ Pascale
    That's not what I was suggesting. Even so I guess the easiest way I can explain this mathematically is to say 'rare' (frequency) is not the same as 'finite' (limited) this is something to keep in mind when you talk about attainability and work goals. Finite (over time) will always eventually = 'almost impossible' to acquire. Rare can stay rare forever.
    100 users (1 widget)
    10,000 users (100 widgets)
    20,000 users (200 widgets)
    ...
    500,000 (5,000)
    this 'rarity' is constant- it could even be lowered-- but depending on 'injection mechanism' it can keep 'attainability' possible..

    As far as 'beta tester rewards' go-
    I've been here a little more than 2 weeks. I've put in more than 2 dozen bug reports, and have literally seen my input help change a few things.
    I'm getting no reward far as I know, and that's fine- I'm just trying to help.
    I'm also guessing every Alpha/beta person got something regardless of 'contribution'. I don't know the deatils, could be very wrong, and am not begrudging them anything in any case- just saying that 'showing up at the right time' does not equal 'compensation for hard work rendered'.
    It is a good ethics discourse, though.

    @Lyrical DejaVu,
    A good point, but if the flipside to 'easy' is 'impossible', I'd suggest some compromise.
    Anyway, mine was just a 'heads up' not a 'drive this way'. TinySpeck has the keys.

  • Figured i should explain this if no one else did. Glitchmas Yetis were only given on one occasssion, Xmas...but only the one year. Funpickles were given to original beta testers, but not later beta. Dusty Sticks were only given to ppl that lost a lot of their inventory, due to a bug one time only as well. Over time people have gotten these items from other players, mind you they ARE quite expensive, but it can be done. The thing is that people arent willing to part with them, which is understandable. The Glitchmas Yeti, had a second series done, the Imported Glitchmas Yeti, over time im sure other items will have additional runs as well. If i recall correctly the items at the rare vendor were 250,000 for the Spigot, 3 million for the Imported yeti, 1,500,000 for the Defective Chick Cubimal, 500,000 for the Rube Potato. It was also said there would be more rare items in the future, so dont despair. And a lot of people sold a lot of items to get the rares, currants are fairly easy to get in this game. But it is something you need to save for, as all  of the above were either tied to one-time events, or are limited editions.

  • Thanks for clarifying that Lyrical!  To add a little more explanation:

    I joined shortly after "the Great Reset", while Glitch was still in beta, just before it launched (and then later went back into beta).  From what I understood, the funpickle was really more compensation for the reset than for beta-testing itself, even though it's called the "special item that only beta-testers get".  Those who were around before the reset had this fun game they were playing that, with warning, they lost everything in and had to start again (someone can correct me on this if I'm mistaken, but my understanding is that folks kept their account and player name, but started again as brand-new Glitchen in the world without exp/IMG, currants, skills, anything).

    @Sweetum - it's been a long time since a funpickle has been mischievous towards me.  If you need to try out letting your funpickle do some stuff, I'll come hang out!

  • I agree with Justin Daigle on the rarity of items. If something can be easily obtainable, and has no functional value to the gameplay, I won't go out of the way to have it. It's the feeling that I must put in a lot of work, and patience, into obtaining something that makes it worthwhile in my eyes. It's not as much the destination, as it is the trip that counts too.

    And as he and others have said, it's rather easy for a new player to feel discouraged when they hear about collectible items, and the price tag usually in the millions that comes with it. Give it some time, focus on other aspects of the gameplay that appeal you, and it'll come with time and experience.

    Currants are very easy to make and very irrelevant once past a certain in-game skillset and what seemed like an impossible task it will be within your grasp. The reverse isn't necessarily true. Without collectibles, and a few other expensive habits like furniture upgrades and towers, I can virtually guarantee some of the high level (and older / experienced in-game) players would probably play much less.

    But isn't it the same in pretty much all other games? Take for example World of Warcraft... a level 5 player isn't concerned with killing Arthas as much as he is with levelling up, and gearing, and all the stuff that comes appropriate for his level. Once at max level, and of proper experience, comes other stuff - the end game if you will - to keep her entertained.

    Collectibles, vanity furniture and a few other expensive habits are a part of the end game of Glitch :)

  • Persephone Pear: we definitely had tons of warning about the reset.  Early alpha testers had been given Glitchmas Yetis, dolls which say some funny phrases, and beta testers were anxious to get some special item which only beta testers would have... so anyone who participated in beta testing got what they had asked for.  :)  And yes, we did keep our names and friends, and a few special items (like the yetis and pickles), but otherwise we started over from scratch, which we had to do repeatedly in alpha as well.

    Pascale: yes, I definitely want a game where anyone can have whatever the next player has.  I think that the philosopher dolls are the right model: there is always a small chance that Rube will offer you one, and players routinely sell them to each other.  I was sorry to see the rare item vendors appear, because while they did give some players a chance to get a yeti, which was great, the vast majority of players, past and future, still have almost no chance at obtaining any of the new toys.

  • also one action that most forget is the "drop" option...all actions listed must be done..and yes it could take a very very long time to get a GNG
    Posted 90 days ago by Gable875 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Nope. You don't have to do all the verbs. As a matter of fact, you could just do one repeatedly. What matters is that it performs all six actions. (I'm fairly certain that dropping the pickle is not necessary to make the pickle drop a GNG)

  • I've just found out that you could get a GNG from a pickle today and I immediately fiddled with mine for two hours to get it. Initially thought the whole GNG thing was over until I realized that I have to get all the possible outcome from the pickle instead of doing all the possible action. With a little bit more fiddling I'm sure you'll get it. Good luck!

  • O_O SO MUCH READING. But, I find it fascinating that so much talk could come from something that I didn't think was more inquiry and curiosity than anything else.

    For me, I like nice things, but I also understand that with my spending habits in this game I'll probably never get most rare items, and I'm ok with that, but with the case of my pickle, I find that to be obtainable so, usually begrudgingly, I play with my pickle and then forget that I should be playing with it repeatedly because usually I'm having so much fun playing the game that I forget that it was the day that I was going to try my hardest getting GNG.  I commend Snail for going at it for two hours, because I don't think I have enough attention span in this game to got at it for that long, though I should try.

    Also, thank you all for encouraging words, I think I'll hang around Cebarkul and play with my pickle all the while spewing out random nonsense when I do get that Comedian buff.

    And lastly, I love you all! :P
