Paying Customer? Too Bad.

Okay, fine, the folks at TS believe that radical change is good.  so be it, it's their game after all, so they are allowed to alienate as many paying customers (I'm one) as they want.  But why did change need to translate to an enormous F.U. to people who had spent days upon days playing the game?  One example from the housing reset:  I unpacked a box from my old house.  What did the game do?  Scatter thousands of previously organized and arranged items all over my new house.

Is this just a late April Fools joke?  Do the TS people just really, really hate people who *only* invested too little money in their game?

Simply put, I paid for the quality and service I was getting each time I paid.  Now I've got a mess that I have to pay more to deal with -- after all, mood and energy go down and iMG does not go up while having to rearrange the hurricane of chaos they unleashed.  So I have to pay with two of my core resources to fix everything that was broken.

I sure don't feel like I'm being treated like a long-standing paying customer right now; sort of the opposite.

  • I think you should just roll with it unless its consistently frustrating.   At first the exploding moving boxes freaked me out (I was one of the ones who wanted a complete reset because the last reset forced us all to give up our worldly possessions).   It took forever to organize the cubimals and stack the other resources I was saving.  I did make a hundred thousand currents on auction yesterday by selling off resources as I organized them.   Selling at a premium to people who, I assume, were more interested in playing than unpacking and didn't mind paying extra for that.

The unpacking and organizing is another way of taking possession of a place.   The time you put into it makes it your own.

  • You know what bothers ME the most is that I can't get my damn youtube videos to play!  And I'm trying to watch that one about the baby with no eyes and that other one that's a nasheed!  And damnit!  I know it's free but I feel entitled to complain because...

Oh wait.  No I don't really feel entitled to complain.  But I'll do it anyway!  Nyah!  >:((((

Edit - Sorry, I just realised I was being totally hypocritical.  But what's done is done.  Want me to come organise your house for you?  =)  Hit me up in-game and I'll come over and help you clean, I promise I won't steal anything.  :)

  • I have nothing of value to add to this convo.. except I STILL CAN'T FIND MY LONG LOST GNOME!!!!   Live Help told me he was in one of my bags in my house a month ago when I lost him...so I was a bit excited to see if he showed up when my moving box exploded.

But Nooooo.........   he's still in hiding.

Oh wait, now that I think of it...  I would like to suggest lowjacks for Gnomes because mine seem to view servitude as something they need to escape. .

  • I think those who hate having to unpack would really hate a great reset. To keep what we have and get to move forward is great. I would much rather spend time unpacking than running around for months with no skills.

  • When I opened my first box which happened to be the fullest and it exploded all over my house and back yard, I LoL'd. It was a bit overwhelming for the first few minutes but I didn't panic or get frustrated, I just dug in and started adding floors and STBs so that I would have a place to put everything.
Sometimes I get a bit bored with doing the same thing all the time and I wasn't bored yesterday :) I really had a blast!

  • I can't believe all of my thousands upon thousands of items back at all?
I'd imagine it would have been much easier for TS to just delete it all and start over.
Maybe having us organize our things bought them a little time to troubleshoot housing issues.

  • I don't understand how nobody saw this coming.  I mean did you envision everything sorted into neat piles in your new home?  It would have been handy but I'd rather see TS put their effort into permanent new features than a one-time move.

It took me maybe an hour to sift through my stuff once I made my SDBs and I started with as much chaos as anyone.  www.glitch.com/snaps/PHFCUU... (Except maybe the epic hoarders like poor Liza Throttlebottom.)  Then I started building and decorating.  Sure it was a little inconvenient but mostly I thought it was hilarious because it so closely mirrored a real life move. OK, where the heck did I put those snails???  I did regret having 1300 hooch in small stacks of 24 but it WAS kind of funny that I had hooch everywhere. I really don't think an hour or two of sifting stuff in a beta test game is enough to justify a big, upset forum post.

  • Lucille it was more than a couple hours. I didn't get everything squared away until nearly midnight last night (EST). It wasn't until earlier today that I finally finished 100% getting everything put into either a box or cabinet that I wanted to. Now that it's done I don't mind having had to do it and I'm not complaining. Just trying to give a bit of a different perspective. Some of us had a lot longer than "a couple" hours worth of work to do getting it all straight. lol

  • I'm having trouble understanding why people need to have everything instantly. What's wrong with doing your sorting bit by bit, over a period of days - or weeks, even?

Don't get me wrong, I'm lost in admiration for the people who had 372 SDBs up on their walls 15 minutes after the game opened back up. More power to y'all.

But really - what's the hurry? I really don't get why anyone would get their panties in a twist because it may take some time to get things to the way they want. You just gained the ability to get things to the way you want. How is that not enough for you?

  • One thing I can see people thinking is that the sooner they get their mess cleaned up, the sooner they can get back into the world and do other fun stuff - resource routes, game of crowns, fox brushing & sloth...slothing, parties, etc. People don't like to come to a messy, laggy house. In real life or in the game. I get that. I can also see players wanting to spend their real, paid-for credits on real furniture items, getting their homes all spiffy and decorated, but darn it, they have 125,921 things cluttering up the floor that they just need to get out of the way. Makes sense. So I can understand the frustration that some people have.

Personally, and this is my own style of play, I don't see anything wrong with organizing my stuff little by little until A) I have finally made enough SDBs/shelves/cabinets to fill it all, and 2) I've sufficiently expanded my house outward and skyward so that I can cram all of those SDBs along the walls. [...and E) this darned semester is over and I can really get to play longer.] I suspect that many of my fellow glitchen are in this camp, too. Patient and tolerant of messes.

So I think it comes down to recognizing that we're different players with different styles, so we ought to respect each other and try to help each other out where we can.

  • I'm to the point that, when I read "I'm quitting" threads, the only thing I think about it is that I'm completely fine with that. Go. See ya in the funny papers. But don't get upset when you start a thread about how everything sucks and everybody needs to know exactly why you're out, and others have the nerve to disagree and question your logic rather than shower you with positive reinforcement and laurel wreathes and attention-attention-attention

Scratch that; you'll get attention, but it might not be the kind you were originally hoping for.

  • The funniest thing to me about this post is that the housing change had the EXACT opposite effect on me.  I went from thinking about subbing to deciding I would.  The hilarious chaos I sat in for a few hours after unpacking just sweetened the deal. Hooray for annual subs, and hooray for chaos, say I.

Leaving posts are funsies.  Oh, and OP, good luck finding a game company that does more for their playerbase, or implements more of their players' ideas, or actually gives more of a flying foof about any of the people subbed to their game than TS does.

Disclaimer: I have not read all the posts in this thread.  Mamma is sleepy today and hasn't had her coffee yet.  Sorry for any repeated themes and/or passive-agressive abuse.

Now I feel revoltingly saccharine, so... I dunno...

What I seriously dislike about these "I Leaving..game did me wrong" threads is that they remind me Too much of the tween whining on WoW that sometimes dominate the general forums there. In all honesty, no one Really cares why a player "Rage Quits". Honestly no one does.

No one is a special Snowflake. It is Beta and things gonna Change frequently. If you chose to pay for months it was Clearly Stated...WE ARE IN BETA... :)

  • A light-hearted experience like Glitch requires us to plump-up our funnybones and check our frowns at the splash screen. The enjoyment is in the silliness and fun, and some days when our mood is dark we can't enjoy Glitch, perhaps. Or perhaps we can rise above the gloom and remember that our Glitchy chores such as milking butterflies, harvesting eggplants, and drinking Wine of the Dead are not anchored in anything, but can float up, up, up until they make a grin split our faces ear to ear.

  • I actually had a pretty good time sorting out the pile of junk that exploded like belched lava throughout the house into the back yard when I opened one box. It helped bring order to what was already chaos before iMG was rolled out. Besides, I had been sooooo bored waiting for that innovation that I relished something different to do for a change! Unfortunately, there have been some slipups and some people didn't get their boxes on time. I was not one of them. Everything was there and (after a few hours of sorting out) accounted for. I am amazed that it went as smoothly as it did. Great job, TS!

  •     First off, I'm happy with all the work that TS has put into glitch for these resets. It looks like they've really thought out the changes/improvements. I'm amazed by the care taken. I play another game and we don't get much attention from the gms/devs; the player suggestions don't seem to be taken into consideration, etc.  Glitch is only the second online game that I've gotten addicted to, though my interest has faded a bit from the first time I came into the game back in November.  I paid for a couple of months of glitch but I'm no longer subscribed. I love that i can do that because I do enjoy this game and I think it can be a wonderful outlet for rl frustrations and even other games.  The wardrobe, the appearance, the housing, the attitude from the animals and plants, the lovable Rube, who teases me so...I loooove all that stuff. Again, i thank you TS people. I also thank the kindness of strangers on global (global being another...interesting experience) and the friends I've made even if we don't chat much or just do a trade here and there.
After all that, I did remember that we were told we were going to move, that we would get some kind of moving boxes, that the purdeee house deco was going to be reset.   I was surprised by the last changes with moving boxes and seeing my empty house was a tab blah. I am not the most organized person, but i try to be. I did not sort all my junk. Yes, I sold a bunch of my jellysacs or donated them, I ARE Stoopid! But i'm slowly getting over that. So, fine. I did, however, HATE, Hate, HATE unpacking my boxes. Yes, i've only spent a few hours unpacking a bunch of junk that was ...sort of sorted out. I know people say that's just whining after all the new things and "oh, unpacking is cool", sorting out stuff, mmm! yay!". I'm sorry, but not for me. I logged out just tired of looking at all my junk. So, i can sympathize with the person who said they were paid and were frustrated.  It can be rather frustrating. Don't those who enjoy unpacking, organizing and all that take that away from someone who is unhappy about it . In the end, yes, you deal with it but maybe something could have been done to make that a little easier (no, i don't know specifically what could have been done but it doesn't mean being frustrated by it is just silly whining).  I have been one of those people who spent hours and hours in a game but it's been a long time since i've done that. Yet, whether I spent tons of hours in glitch or spent just 5 mins per game day (to check my upgrade cards *cries* ) I still would find that frustrating.
Well, since this is my first post here EVER, I hope you guys are gentle with me in replying. But if not, I hope the Rube brings you junk, like he's been doing to me. I'll get him someday *sigh*

  • Wow, what a bunch of rude bastards. You would think the OP said they like eating babies. I love this game, I surely dont like some the changes, but this thread may just be the tipping point for my disgust at the TS kiss ass attitude. Are you all so insecure that someone with a point of view that differs from your own reduces the responses to personal attacks? @TM, in this (re)beta, more than ever, the devs need to hear your voice, and your post was a reasonable and intelligent comment.
Posted 7 months ago by OL. Der Dan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'd agree with the OP if the OP were to be stating their dissatisfaction at having to sift through a ton of items. But the OP goes further than that.

To wit, " Do the TS people just really, really hate people who *only* invested too little money in their game? " seems to imply that people who have invested more money got different treatment. That is most definitely not the case - we're all in the same boat.

As others have pointed out, you get what you paid for. Nowhere did it ever say subscribed players could expect more perks than those listed on the subscriptions page.

Sure, sifting through All The Things is tedious, but I suspect going about it in a more "organized" manner would have been more complicated to code - I'd much rather have the TS team work on something that is not a one-time benefit. Plus see Stoot's thread about unpacking in an organized fashion!

I was a bit overwhelmed when all my hoarded junk hit the floor, but I promptly opened up all the other (Pandora's) boxes and chaos reigned from then on (and still does - not so great at cleaning in real life either).
Posted 7 months ago by Flapmouse Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I kind of like that everything just explodes. It gives you a chance to start completely fresh and organize things how you want it. It was kind of scary when you first see everything, seeing as the floor is completely covered with piles upon piles upon piles of things, but hey, it's all a part of moving in.
