The Last Egg Experiment (Interrupted)

The last Egg Quest is not easy if you don't have a dark patch.  I went to Shillrigg Tiers in Groddle Forest to try for it.  It, of course would be easier to have a Friend with a dark patch help me but I wanted to see if I could get it on my own.

I arrived at Shillrigg Tiers which has several Egg Plants.  I choose the one on the left side of the door to Snool.  I poisoned the plant and when it died I cleared, tended and then planted a new Egg Plant.  here is how it went, Times are RW times.  I also Petted when I Watered:

2:10PM - Poisoned
2:13PM - Cleared, Tended, Planted
2:19PM - The first Watering
2:26PM - 2nd Watering
2:34PM - 3rd Watering
2:39PM - 4th Watering
2:46PM - 5th Watering
2:48PM - Sudden Growth Spurt, Would not allow Pet or Water
2:51PM - 6th Watering
2:55PM - Egg stolen by intruder - NO QUEST FOR ME!

I don't know how long it would have taken to get the Egg but I was nearing one hour of care.  I had Dust but did not use it because I was curious to see how long it would take to get the egg.  In the end the person who came in used Dust and harvested the plant twice.  I jumped in and also harvested twice but was unable to beat the thief to the last egg.  When he left there were two eggs on the plant and I could not Harvest because I had met my limit of twice in a Game day.  It was 11:38AM, Game Time.  I still have yet to get this Quest but a Friend with a dark patch will help me.  I did come close to learning how long it would take though.  My guess is that it would have taken just about an hour of care to finally get the Quest with no boost from Dust.

  • I completed the quest by chance, I stumbled upon a baby egg plant in the wild and did it. If I see a suitable egg plant, I post it in global chat.

Another strategy is to ask a group of people to harvest and no petting or watering, I don't know how many people is needed, but I helped one person and I'm willing to help others. Leaving notes and asking in local chat not to pet/water is crucial.

  • In global chat people regularly announce last eggs they bump into. Just keep an eye on the chat and go there straight away.

  • If you have currants to burn, the simplest way to achieve this quest is to buy a house just for that (with a bean and dust).

  • Or just ask if someone will let you use their house for a bit with the bean and dust.

Given you are just replacing the same tree, there is no loss on their part.

  • I believe in beta we needed a group of 4 or 5 to do this quest quickly, as well as the peat quest. I say gather some friends for a questing party. I still have both of these quests open if anyone wants to do this IM me.

  • I was also lucky enough to stumble upon a plant that wasn't very large and ended up going back in the next game day and was lucky enough to find the plant still in the same state so that I could gather the last egg. I think Holly's suggestion would work best if you could find an immature plant and several people to help. Good luck...

  • Have some numbers!  :D  If you plant a bean, wait for it to sprout into a mini-eggplant, water and pet it, and then fert lite it three times (number needed to get it harvestable), you'll get a 2-armed eggplant.  At the 2-armed stage, an eggplant contains 40 eggs, so if you know how much you harvest as well as how much a friend (or two) harvests, it's a simple matter of calculating how many times they need to harvest from the tree before you harvest to get the last egg.

  • It was my plant.  I bought the seasoner and made the bean.  I planted, tended, cared for it and stood by it while it grew.  I did it to get just the last egg.  He saw me standing right in front of it and did not even have the courtesy to ask if I minded him harvesting.  He could certainly see that it was an immature plant with no eggs (until he dusted it).    Technically, you might say it was NOT my plant, that it was where any Glitch could come and therefore it belonged to all and not one.  All of that is true.  There is, however, an old-fashiond, decent thing called "Courtesy".  We all get the Last Egg quest and for most of us it is very difficult to complete because so many people have no knowledge of "Courtesy" and might not care anyway.  So, yes, I felt it was my plant.  There were several other egg plants there.  If he had wanted eggs, he could have harvested from them.  If he wanted the quest, he could have planted and raised his own egg plant.  He did not need "mine".

My main point though was not that my egg was "stolen" (or not, depending on your POV).  It was that I wanted to find out how long it would take to get the egg with no dust or help and in a public area as this is how many Glitches will get the quest.  I would not have minded someone else getting the egg if I could just have finished raising the plant.  Another point is the simple lack of any concern by some players as to what might be consideration for others.  I hope the fellow completed the quest when he took the egg.  It would be much worse if he took the egg merely to keep me from getting it.  I will never know why he did it or if he got the egg quest.  I do know who he was.

  • Not everyone has had the Last Egg quest.  I didn't know about it til now, and I'm level 15. I probably would have harvested from the plant and thought nothing of it, because people go AFK or stand still doing stuff in their inventories next to trees all the time.  It was probably not malicious so much as uninformed.

Now that I know to look for this, I can be cautious of it, but you can't assume that everyone knows about every quest.

  • I know the Last Egg quest isn't easy, but there are other places to try it. There are a few streets with 2 Egg Plants underground, and since they don't get visited as often, you don't need to poison the plant first.

  • Here's how I did it:
    • Shortly before midnight (say at 10pm), go to Sambara Stack. There is one egg tree there and it is low and around little of "value."
    • Poison tree.
    • Spend some time feeding batterflies.
    • Chop down dead tree and plant eggplant bean. Pet.
    • Spend some more time feed batterflies.
    • Wait til just before midnight. Fertidust until you have branches.
    • Pet tree. Harvest twice.
    • Wait for day change.
    • Harvest twice.

Boom. (Don't know why no one uses Fertidust.)

  • @ Brib,

I have an egg tree you can use anytime Brib if you already haven't done the egg quest! I will harvest it, but not pet or water til I hear from you!

  • If you haunt the egg places around Groddle Heights and Meadow you will stumble on a wild last egg sooner or later. I didn't worry about finding one and completing the quest and just left it in my to do list. Then I stumbled on one at about my 3rd or 4th time doing an egg harvest run.

  • Yes, you can find some "wild" plants.  Also, a kind person in one of the bogs (in Chakra Phool I think) planted some egg plants and left notes asking people to leave them for those doing the quest.

Yes, there is more than one way to do the quest.  I have forgotten which skill activates the quest but you won't get the quest until you complete the associated skill.  I think I got the quest at lev. 20.

For me, personally, this is just about the toughest quest.  I found the Rook Egg quest easier and I am a terrible jumper - Lol!  Why is it tough?  It takes a while to do it and is best done with the help of one or more friends.   It is not essential that you do quests but they are often fun and usually a challenge and you are rewarded upon completion with Mood, Energy and XP.  If you are doing an Achievement, you also get a Badge.  You may also get one or more Badges while completing Quests.

ETA:  I am not sure what the person thought when he took the egg.  I was standing in front of the plant and was not AFK.  I suspect that he knew what I was doing.  To be fair, he may not have known.  As he left he said, "You have harvested twice now you must wait two hours before harvesting again."  He was correct.  I tried to get that egg after he dusted but he got it and although I could have gotten the egg with two more harvests, I could not do so.  I would have had to stand guard at least two RW hours until "Dawn" of the next Game Day.

  • I feel you.  I did the same thing, twice, and TWICE had the last egg stolen from me.  Eventually, I gave up, and in my ramblings found one egg tree with two eggs on it.  I harvested twice, but still an egg was left!  I made basic omelets, scattered them, and waited for the New Day.  Every time someone entered the area, I asked them to please not pet, water, or harvest, and to take an omelet instead!  Everyone was cooperative, and when the New Day dawned, I had my quest!  It was a pain in the butt though...

ETA: Both times the last egg was stolen, I was in front of the plant, saying, "Questing!  Please don't water, pet or harvest!"

  • One time about a week ago, New Streets people tried to take the locust approach to harvesting the tress down for the last egg. Ten people cannot do it alone, we found out! I personally have been killing and regrowing the egg tree in my house and letting people in to harvest it, since I'm killing/replanting for badges anyway.

  • ooooh, that quest vexed me! (I just can't bring myself to poison trees.)

I tried hanging out near the door to Snool. I wrote/left a note explaining my quest and would tell players who wandered by about my quest and ask them to only harvest. Most were super cool about it (and I rewarded them with goodies I "cooked"). Then one guy showed up, picked up my note and took off with it, but not before calling me a "bad person" and accusing me of trying to kill the egg tree. LOL*sob*

I had pretty much given up on the quest until I stumbled across a baby egg tree and got that darn last egg!
