Did I just buy into a bad deal?

I just thought to my self "why did I just pay 2500 for a toolbox when a big bag does the same thing but only costs 1999?"

 Am I missing something here?

  • Only tools can go into toolbox.  I love my toolbox, because I know where my tools are, no trying to remember "crap, which bag were those in?"  Its just a personal preference.

  • The toolbox is also great if you loan your tools to other people on a regular basis, or if someone repairs a tool for you.  Put the toolbox into the first slot of your inventory, and then when a tool is returned to you, it will always go back to the right place.  The spice box and other specialized containers are useful for organization as well.

  • I personally don't care for the toolbox since you can only put tools in there. Plus, it's a lot more expensive than the big bag.

  • Right now, there seems to be no functional difference between a toolbox and a big bag.  But who knows -- maybe we'll discover when we get to a high enough level that tools are more likely to wear out or become broken if they're kept in a bag rather than a sturdy toolbox.  In the meantime, try to enjoy how the different look of the toolbox helps you keep track of what's where.

  • Currants are so easy to earn that the difference is trivial.  And as a prevoius poster said, having the tool box at the front makes the tools land into it and keeps the other stuff from finding it's way in.  I keep two toolboxes as the first two 'slots' in my inventory.  I wish we had special food and ore containers too.  They would be worth paying a little extra for.

  • To put in my two cents, it's nice not having non-tool items end up in my toolbox if it doesn't happen to be full - it's like automagic organization. But hey, maybe I'm too obsessive about labels.

  • You're a Label-obsessee as well, Blanky? *gasps*

  • Automatic organization.  Me too.  First are my two toolboxes, then my spice chest, then my elemental pouch (then my cubimal box when I get it),  random bags to take stuff as it gets loaded, at the end are my specialized bags:  "produce" "meat and eggs" "milk and grains" "vapors and bubbles" "prepared food."  That way nothing gets in my specialized bags unless I put it there.  ALL of my bags are named.  I haven't yet tried to name my toolboxes.  BRB. :)

  • @BenAlex: I was thinking about getting another toolbox, so as long as yours is any color but red, I'll be happy to trade you for a big bag in your choice of color + the difference in Currants. (I want a color other than red so I can tell the two apart... Organization, ya know?) Message me in-game or reply here and we'll set something up.

  • I'd be willing to pay for other premium auto-sorting containers like the toolbox. Perhaps we can purchase a mini-fridge for ONLY food? Or a Junk Drawer for ONLY non-edible items? A Basket for harvestables?

Although some bag reorganization problems have been solved by the recent item-locking, it's still not an enjoyable chore to do.

  • yeah, i never saw the point.  i just keep my tools far-right in my inventory with my emblems and such and no random detritus ever gets mixed up with them.

i would pay extra for a toolbox if tools stored in them experienced less wear, but otherwise i'm ok with bigger bags.

  • They're only 501 currants more expensive,  which really isn't a lot once you've got some skillz

  • The one thing I dislike about toolboxes is tools don't by default go there when you receive them.

The spice rack does that, and it's muchly appreciated, but when I sell a broken watering can and buy a new one I have to manually put it back in the right spot.

  • Yea, I think that should be adjusted on them, Abby. It'd be nice to have the tools automatically go in there. I thought at one point they did, but I must have been wrong.

  • @Abby: if you put the toolbox in the leftmost slot, tools will automatically go in there when you receive them :)

  • Totally worth it. I have one for tools and one for cooking tools.

  • I love love love my shiny toolbox. If bigger bags had more colors...then I would go with that. But yes...all my tools, nicely. Organized. And I KNOW exactly where they are.
