New upgrade: Trade Channeling!

We released an upgrade card allowing you to access a new chat channel, specially for trading!

You can use it to ask around to see who's selling what you're buying and then teleport right quick to buy it from them. And other things like that.

If you have feedback or bugs you want to tell us about, let us know here!

Note: If you don't see the chat channel after buying the card, refresh the game. If the card is stuck in your deck, you can re-deal, or send us a help case if there's still a problem.

  • Nanookie: auctions are not going away. Indeed, there be further means of trade facilitation added in the future :)

  • Oh good deal.  So maybe at some point I *will* be able to put an item up for auction from an SDB in house...because that would be pretty cool.

  • KitchWitch (and others) — I didn't intend for it to be drama-inducing. But, re-reading it was more aggressive than I intended: sorry, glum!

Let me try a different way of explaining: if you don't know what time dinner is being served, then an expression of hope that it isn't served too late makes more sense than an argument that it is being served too late and it really should be served earlier.

Off the top of my head, here's a (surely incomplete) list of things that people are exposed to/learn about in a more structured way during the first few levels of the new user experience, in rough order:

    • movement (arrow keys & WASD)
    • jumping (spacebar)
    • jumping across (spacebar & arrow keys)
    • imagination
    • upgrades
    • interaction with simple glowing items (use of mouse & enter key)
    • inventory
    • food items & energy
    • drink items & mood
    • interaction with complex items (context menus/tooltips; trees, machines)
    • home street
    • house exterior
    • house interior
    • furniture tab
    • decorate mode
    • skills (first one is free and instant)
    • tools & items relevant to skill (dependent on first skill chosen)
    • second skill choice/skill learning
    • quests
    • mini map
    • regional maps
    • map search and setting destinations
    • currants
    • vendors
    • imagination menu
    • travel between home and world
    • live help

And here's some that are left for people to left to chose to pursue in a more open-ended way shortly after:

    • chat
    • IM
    • credits & subscriptions
    • friends lists
    • world map
    • camera mode
    • viewport zoom
    • shrines, donation & favor
    • inventory search
    • vanity, wardrobe
    • cultivation
    • groups
    • auctions
    • brain capacity

There's a huge amount more detail than that, but: (1) trade channels simply aren't useful until a player has at least a few items and skills, (2) introducing things too early is worse than too late: you can only absorb so much at one time and if you have to try to remember about trade channels (or party chat or brain capacity or whatever) for later use while you are still getting your head around the basics of the UI it can be overwhelming, and (3) it is very easy to control the flow of upgrade availability (example: everyone who wanted the trade channel yesterday was almost certain to get it).

It may seem like upgrades are chaotic and overly random, but that's kind of to be expected when you newly come into the upgrade system when you are already effectively "done" the game (i.e., have the max level, all skills, most achievements, etc.) — all the pre-reqs are triggered at once and your upgrades are 500 hours (or whatever) behind your other attributes. It simply isn't like that for new players.

  • Holy cats... you mean there is actual intention involved, gasp!

Where's Foxy Woxy, an acorn just dropped.

I am selling umbrellas in my state of the art tower. Rock bottom prices, get 'em before the sky falls.

  • I got one of the cards yesterday, but it's vanished from my inventory now. :-(

  • Pointy Sticks: if you mean a trade channel card, it was never in your inventory. Only a small number of "keepable" cards (listed on this encyclopedia page) go in your inventory. If you bought a trade channel card, you should see "Trade Channel" listed below "Live Help" in your contacts pane.

  • Feedback - Level 4 should not be given the choice of a Trade Channel upgrade card. It's just too soon IMO.

  • +1 for eye wonders comment. Theres currently a level 4 spamming trade, and its getting very tiresome. I had to block her just to see what everyone else was trading.. Please stoot, limit the trade channel to a certain level for the card to come up, because new players simply dont get it.

  • I agree, limit trade channel to higher levels.  Thanks

  • Agreed. Please (drastically) raise the level before the trade channel card upgrade is offered. Having me4t begZ0rz in the trade channel seems a sure-fire way to kill it.

  • Chiming in to agree about raising the level minimum for trade channel.

  • Is there a way to down grade the Trade Channel Upgrade? It's not for me, and I'd like to get rid of it.

  • Those who'd like to be able to show/hide channels, please chime in HERE.

  • I'm bringing this up again because I don't think it's been addressed and it needs to be.
There needs to be a limit to the trade channel on what level or perhaps skills/upgrades you have earned. IMO, level 4 is much to early to be given the option of the trade channel card. Now there is a level 6, IMO, still too early.
Shouldn't the new players find out where to harvest eggs inworld before they ask the trade channel where they can buy some? Don't get me wrong, of course I want newbies to buy items from my tower but I also want them to learn it themselves so as not to rely on others first.

Can we please get a staff member to chime in on this and explain the reasons why a level 4 who doesn't know where to get salt or eggs should be on the trade channel?

  • Scilly, just close that chat.

Having  the upgrade doesn't mean that you have to have the channel open.

  • Another way of handling this is for Trade Channel users to report the folks who aren't mature enough to use the Channel.  Rather than a blanket ban based on level, I think a more targeted solution would be to ban individual players.

All it takes is a few users in the Trade Channel reporting someone and staff will do what is necessary to solve the problem.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH for making the trade channel! It was one of the things that bothered me most to not have, and now I do! :D
