The Betterment of Butter and Cheese

The changes to Butter and Cheese changes are live now:

The making of Butter and Cheese was up to now an unprofitable activity. Butterfly Milk was worth 8, shaking it into Butter cost 2 energy, and the resulting Butterfly Butter was priced at 6. Similarly, the next step of compressing Butter into Cheese cost 5 energy, and the resulting Cheese was priced at 6, same as Butter.

No more! The values of Butter and Cheese have been increased, as well as the values of the 31 crafted foods that Butter and/or Cheese are ingredients to. The values of stinky cheeses have been increased as well (they aren’t used much as ingredients at this point, but they might be in future!). All in all, while making Cheese and Butter is still not a profitable activity by itself, it certainly is when combined with the appropriate cooking skills.

Here are the changes in detail:
• Butter base cost increased to 10 (was 6)
• Cheese base cost increased to 15 (was 6)

• Stinky Cheese base cost increased to 21 (was 12)
• Very Stinky Cheese base cost increased 27 (was 18)
• Very Very Stinky Cheese base cost increased to 33 (was 24)

  • I dunno, guys.  This seems like kindof a cheesy fix, if you ask me.  *budumm-chk* ;)

  • Wait, does the increase in meal value also result in an increase of energy gained?

If so, we have a new replacement for awesome stew! (Expensive Grilled Cheese to 220 (was 173))

    Whee!

  • Expensive Grilled Cheese is currently offering 92 energy, the same as Awesome Stew.  But more IMG. :)

Edit:  nevermind on the IMG, I apparently just haven't eaten an EGC as recently as an Awesome Stew.

  • And, I reloaded, and both of them now say 110 Energy!  it's madness, I tell you, madness!
Posted 84 days ago by Grem Sketch Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Uh, Grem? Are you by any chance checking by hovering over it while you're in no need of energy? Awesome stew gives a lot more than 92 energy ;)

  • Sonnova... no wonder it keeps changing....  *goes off in search of Mabish Coffee*  Please pay no attention to my befuddled ramblings...

  • They reduced the amount of energy Awesome Stew gives? It was 200. EGC was 173.

ETA: Haha. okay, makes sense now. Okay, thought that'd be a big change to not tell us about.

  • I am going to post what I put yesterday.  Why is this the only activity in game that uses TONS of energy, but gives zero iMG?

"You shook 80 Butterfly Milks. You shake the butterfly milk vigorously. Butterfly butter! -160 Energy +80 Butterfly Butter"  Zero img

"You compressed 40 Butterfly Butter. You squeeze the butterfly butter with all your might and cheese appears! -200 Energy +40 Cheese" Zero img

Why do we get no iMG for such a high energy trade off?  I feel like I HAVE to use no no to make cheese and butter.  Why do we still have that weird timer when making it?

I know why it was added ages ago, but why is it still there??

  • Any definitive word on whether or not the energy values have also increased?

  • Now the various forums are presented with more equality, shouldn't this sort of thread be in announcements?

I know originally the announcements forums was to get rid of the tedious "join my group" stuff that would get in the way of this sort of thing, but does it now make sense that game-change announcements are half-way down the page in General?

  • Yes, energy levels have changed:
You ate an Expensive Grilled Cheese. +220 Energy
Posted 84 days ago by Vic Fontaine Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Aurora Dellaterra: Yes, the base cost ("worth about _____" info from encylopedia, etc.) almost always corresponds to the energy you get from food (I'm not even sure if there are exceptions; if there are, they are very rare).

Innie✿: "Why do we get no iMG for such a high energy trade off?"

Because some things work differently than other things! :)      But, now you get both more profit (in base cost/energy) and, in some cases, more iMG, when using the cheese that you just made.

shhexy corin: For now we're going to continue to use the General forum for threads about changes to the game. They will also get linked from Glitchlog, so they don't only appear halfway down the main forums page. In the future, we'll make a new view so people can find just these threads.

  • Great news!! I do love me a grilled cheese sammie of almost ANY sort. Though I do think it's kind of skimpy only having three kinds of cheese on a cheese plate -- I'm going to keep using four.

  • I checked out the math for squishing and aging and otherwise molesting cheese and while I won't subject you to the muddled calculations, I will say that I discovered the making process to be fair and balanced while on no no :)

So don't get any ideas about restarting the old cheese factories folks ;)

  • Cool!   I already have an SDB filled with butter (40,000 sticks) and since I already also have an SDB filled with milk (80,000 + many more in a pile on my floor) I am primed to saturate the dairy market.  :)

  • Wow. Thanks TS. I think there was a silver lining with your Yellow Crumb discovery. I think the way you're looking at the costs/benefits of the various items we can harvest/make in Ur.

  • What is the formula for vendor buy-back?  They definitely do not pay the 'base value.'
Posted 84 days ago by Feldspar Gravity Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It used to be 80% for tool vendors (before vendor upgrades) and 70% for other vendors. I'm not sure if that's still accurate now.
Posted 84 days ago by Little Miss Giggles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Tool vendor seems to pay 82.5% with the best upgrades. He was 75% prior to upgrades and after he was lowered a bit with the Ur wide vendor readjustment. Prior to thaaaaaat he was 80%. However now he rounds based on your entire sale, whereas before he rounded by individual item and then applied that number to your entire sale all multiplying style :)

Correct me if I'm wrong and whatnot xO
Posted 84 days ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well that explains why my tower got wiped out of all dairy products.

Boy, did I ever get boned on that update
Posted 84 days ago by Pickle Juice Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Vendors still round the same way.  Tool vendor pays 75%, other vendors now all pay 66%.  You round off the value for an individual item, multiply by the number of items, and then add the 10% bonus for the upgrade (or whatever bonus you have).

So if you sell 100 currants worth of meat (10 meat) at the tool vendor you'll get 88 currants with the full upgrade (7.5 rounded to 8 times plus 10%) . If you sell 100 currants worth of grain you'll get 110 (0.75 rounded to 1 times 100 plus 10%).

  • For people wondering why there is no img gain for these activities, it goes back to the reset and original launch. The people who leveled the fastest were those that did nothing but make cheese.

So, much like what they did with YC seeds, they had to nerf it. However, rather than an adjustment they just full on removed it. On the bright side, it gives me a reason to use no-no, since there's no penalty on zero img.
Posted 83 days ago by XD Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The angle you are looking for when you do no-no is something that will be worthwhile that takes as little time as possible.  butter and cheese making filled the bill.   and then they were nerfed.
