Local trade offers

For a limited time, you can initiate a local trade offer (for buying or selling) from the local chat menu. EDIT, later: The experiment is now over, so if you are reading these words, you won't be able to use the trade offer feature any more (unless you are reading this way in the future when we turn it back on).

Anyone in the same location will see what you want to buy or sell and for how much with a little talk bubble over your head, similar to how race offers work now. Clicking it will open the trading UI with the offer options pre-set so you can negotiate from there.

We're testing this for a few hours only right now to get some early feedback (and maybe even find some bugs). When we release this properly, the feature will probably be restricted to specific marketplace locations so trade offers don't get too spammy in the rest of the world.

  • It's a good feature to have available..but, the sell/buy needs to be in bold as it was difficult to tell the difference, and the amounts of item on the trade window needs to be more obvious as after an offer of 40 of something was made, I only got 25 when the trade was made, buyer beware I suppose.

Edit: also some items I put up for sale and did not sell are missing from my bags. It seems after I put in my offer, the vendor can change the facts on their side at the moment.

  • You could just make a chat room for trading offers. Or perhaps a button that turns trading view on/off.

  • i experimented when it launched offering to sell 50 strawberries. no one went for 'em. when i hit all the other traders and went to negotiate with someone, their item for the cash they'd requested. somehow my strawberries were included in the negotiation. that shouldn't have happened. strawbs don't matter but if it'd been a rare cubie, i'd have been totally p'ssed off if i'd accidentally sold it for some beans or something.

  • Oh, I do not like the image of this. Is there away that you can just make it an image of the item with the price underneath, and if the person wants to trade, for them to click on the item? That would make it more visually appealing:)

  • While I appreciate the effort that goes in to something like that, the last thing I want is my local chat swamped with someone hawking their wares.  Can we get that put in it's own channel, much like global v. local, so we can participate, or not, as we choose?

  • Hey everyone! Let's try this out! Come and find me, I'll be mining... All my gems I am selling for lessthan or equal to 100 currants!:)

  • Different colors for buying and selling would be pretty sweet.  I REALLY think that the implementation would even out if people weren't all crowding onto one street to do this.  It wasn't nearly as annoying in places other than Cebarkul, where only one or two people were doing it.

  • This is a very cool feature, thank you xoxoPlease change the start negotiation, Many times I missed an opportunity because I clicked the ITEM that was bolded in the offer, instead of the "start negotiation" that needs to be bolder, bigger, something more.

  • I found out that when I travel to another location, the trade stops. I also noticed that no one wants to buy anything for 1 currant. Not even valuable gems. I have passed 7 people with the trade above my head for a 1 currant trade >.< Glitch these days tsk tsk
OH WOW! someone changed the price to 10 currants, how kind:)

  • It would be really cool if it wasn't "local" and there was a Global Chat type list where a new trade popped up only every few seconds instead of a mad rush.

  • I thought it was fun and great! I like the idea of different colors for buying and selling. I was able to sell some duplicate cubimals that have been taking up space in my bag for days, and buy a new cubimal (now I have 16 unique ones, yay!).

Lag was present, but not too much of a problem (macbook pro, firefox. chrome gives me more problems). I do agree that Cebarkul was a poor choice of street, because of the tool vendor - better to choose something out of the way so that people who have worse lag problems can avoid the street.
Posted 12 months ago by Illamasqua II Subscriber! | Permalink
  • it was definitely too crazy there for me. I had fun for a while and then had to lag my way off the street and felt super overwhelmed (is this how my Glitch feels when we get flung from ancestral? Now i feel bad for putting her thru that so much!).

That said, I did have fun at first. Hburger's idea of a separate location for the trades would be nice. And rather than showing the names people chose for their bags, please just let it say "Bigger Bag" or whatever bag it is. I did laugh at some of the names people came up with but it was misleading.

  • I had a trade going, and negotiated on another trade at the same time.  the thing I was trying to trade showed up on the trade screen even though the other person wasn't going after it.  I had to remove what I was trading to do the trade. Got it? :)

  • Bug - I bought a alchemical pouch for 1c but had all my slots full.  It gave me a message about how I needed to open a slot and my rock would keep it until I did and that I couldn't trade until after I cleared the slots.  But I could trade more.  I never got my bag.  Going to other streets, reloading didn't do anything.

  • - When I move to a different street, the trade offer needs to be re-created all over again.  I'd like to just walk around the world of Ur, doing my thing and not waste my energy standing around.  All somebody has to do is "ping" me (using the idea I laid out below).  If I move around, it can be difficult for other glitches to read the trade offer, much less click on the offer.  Staying in one place and waiting won't work for me as I am always moving around.

    - The limit of five minutes will just cause people to re-create the trade offer.  The trade offer should only expire when a Glitch goes AFK.  There is no way of making trades when one party is AFK, so this approach makes sense.

    - I don't like reading the words, numbers from each glitch to locate a trade offer that I want.  Why not just put up a single image of that object with a simple circle that is big enough for anyone to notice as they walk by and allow the glitch to slide the mouse cursor to the side of the screen where the preferred item/trade-offer remains fixed?  If the trade offer appears on the street, but the glitch is "off-screen" - the circle bubble with the item in it can remain fixed to either top, left, right or bottom sides (can't decide which side is best..) with an arrow pointing to the trader.  Only when an interested party is in close proximity to the trader, one may be able to engage the trader.  By then, clicking on the bubble would show more specific details, give you a list of verbs to click on next.  This can help ensure a successful trade, rather than dealing with the awkward "oh nevermind, I'm not interested anymore, I didn't know you wanted X currants for item Y" situation.

    - The trade pop-up screen takes up the entire screen once a party is interested, can this be cleaned up, so it doesn't obstruct the entire screen?

    - I realize my feedback is heavy on the minimalist side, but I think it is important to make it a priority to eliminate the potential for eye strain and make the trading experience as intuitive as possible with these aesthetic changes.

    GOOD LUCK!

  • Love the idea.  I'm having one problem.  I've been selling earthshakers. If I put the quantity of earthshakers first and then the currants, all is well.  If I put in the currants first and then pick the quantity, the number of currants scales.  For example, I had a stack of 9 and wanted to sell 3.  I put in 450c, then when I put 3 in the quantity picker the price fell to 150c.  This may not be a bug but it isn't very intuitive behavior.

Price/item would be welcome in the trade window, as would the currant value of the item you're considering trading.

  • Here's my feedback, for what it's worth: I wish the offers in the local chat didn't turn to a default message "so-and-so was looking for someone to trade with" because then I get confused as to whether the trade I wanted is gone or not (especially when the trades are moving fast). Also, I would like to be able to propose trades (for example, emblem for emblem) as well as selling. Also, I want to be able to enter a negotiation even under the amount of currants being requested because I could possibly add items that the seller might consider in lieu of the missing currants (or the seller might be willing to negotiate the price down). Finally, I wish the local chat was visually different between offers to buy and offers to sell. At a glance, when the trades are moving quickly, it would be nice to have two different colors.

  • Updating my "WTB Smuggler Cubimal" somehow made it show up as a WTB Cactus Cubimal for the same price? Now I can't add another at the original price, it's like it's stuck. I need to add a currant for it to work. Also several complaints on 1 digit selling price. I had it accidentally try and sell something for 4 instead of 400.

  • great idea but bad implementation. Makes the chat box way to busy. If you are planning on certain market spots, then will be similar to how cebarkul is now. People are not able to use local chat for....local chat. Also, if I want to sell something, it is only "visible" for a few seconds before offers put it out of view (I know it is in a box over my head but that itself is hard to see when everyone has a box over there head and only a fraction of the players in that street are in my screen space).

    To resolve:
How about create a certain street for trading with several buildings/rooms (auction rooms?). On the street itself, no offers would be visible. You would go into a certain building/room (eg food/drink/cubes) to buy that category.

Another idea may be: go into a room with computers/tablets/pdas - log on to a ebay style site (integrate the auction page with this idea)

    Not really sure tbh!

  • This has proved to be obnoxious. I do not even want to walk through these streets any longer. The street is filled with spam bubbles and lag. Anything that encourages a lot of people to congregate in one area translates to not fun for me because the lag is so terrible.

My girlfriend came to the street to sell some stuff to the vendor there and logged out. She found it so impossible to do anything because her screen was so filled with people's chat offer bubbles. Her observation was, "They just made the game too annoying to play. I need to go to these streets and now I hate being here."

  • Small bug? I had an item on offer (some allspice) when I started negotiating to buy something from somebody else. The currant value automatically popped up like it should, but my allspice was also in the trade window. I removed it and completed the trade. A little later someone negotiated with me for my offer, but my side of the window was empty and I had to add the allspice to the trade manually.

  • Another problem.  If I am selling and want to buy from someone else, it merges the trades.  I was selling 3 earthshakers and while my offer was up I wanted to buy 4 daiquiris from another player for 200c.   When I clicked "Start negotiation" it put 3 earthshakers AND 200c in my side of the trade window.

Overall I REALLY like the feature. It will be good to have it confined to specific areas, though.  It's a little overwhelming otherwise.

  • It isn't over yet because the people in Cebarkul are still going nuts with it. I am not a big fan of it. Spamtastic. All the trades cover up everything else

  • While selling cubimal I liked someones offer and I clicked to buy. Window that open showed up currants that person asked for an item plus my cubimal and without thinking i clicked OK. So that should be fixed.
Also sometimes it won't allow me to sell item for let's say 6000 but it will allow me to sell it for 600 or 60000 so i had to cancel sale numerous time till i could "announce" it.

  • At some point my notes titles got switched all to Note, which is I assume to stop people from selling things as something else. Good in theory, but the reason for why I was selling a random Note instead of a Vision of the Future! was entirely lost. If it could represented like cubimals are (a note of A Vision of the Future! or some such) that would be great.

(Also I got some random stuff thrown my way I assume accidentally: PM me and I'll give it back to you.)
Posted 12 months ago by Caesura Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Visions of the Future! yam!:) thank you Hburger
for those moments: "hey what did i just trade/sold/offer/bought? o.O" i would love to be able to check it on a little report in local chat. and if i am selling something i would love to sell it for the price i've chosen, without the buyer being able to "adjust" the payment.
briliant ideas above, like smaller and differenciated panes either by color or shape.
it seems we are going to have lots of fun with this feature, a lot of new possibilities.

  • It may be fun, but it's not a very good way of matching buyers with sellers,  The auction house is still better.  What would be NICE, is to have the auction house renamed the consignment shop and then do the programming necessary to implement a REAL auction house where items could be offered up to bid.
Posted 12 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • :: nods :: to Walruz's suggestions.
As I know I've mentioned elsewhere on the forums, it would be nice to have a real bidding system in place, like there is on PonyIsland, with both dedicated sales forums and live auction forums.  That way players could choose either to just put their items up for a set price, or, invite players to bid on their wares whenever they want.
Posted 12 months ago by ♪♥~ Auren ~♥♪ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It was nice to instantly get the goods instead of having to wait for the froggy to bring them.  It also felt good to see the sales/trades actually in the world environment rather than having to make a special trip to the auction house tab.

I would recommend letting outstanding offers 'expire' after a short amount of time to clean up the speech bubbles, possibly with a cool-down for re-offering.
