can we just settle this. family game or not?

i can't really find an official definition for what a family game is or not, but i mean, it's essentially the same as a 'family film' in regards to the use of language. so, while 'family game' doesn't have an objective definition (yet), 'family film' does. it's "a film genre that is designed to appeal to a variety of age groups and, thus, families." i think we all agree that the game appeals to many age groups. i suppose we could also agree that the game is PG-13 considering that a player must be 13 years or older to play (with parental consent). films typically are upgraded to PG-13 from PG when language is used sparingly (generally, less than 4 times) or the movie is especially violent. note that Glitch never uses language and is never violent, so the game really should be PG or even G. Certainly, it would be rated E for everyone with a disclaimer that they cannot control the content experienced online.

ultimately though, the game has parallels with a family film that's rated PG-13. and as such, we shouldn't use language.

thank you for your time.

(edit: ToS says 14 years or older, so I guess PG-14 would be more accurate.)

  • oh, eliza.

if you are frustrated, you should not be posting in this thread.

this thread passed out of rational discussion hundreds of posts ago and the only people who should post to it at this point are people who are having fun.

the actual question was settled long before the thread began. there's only one person who refuses to see it, and if you're not having fun, don't waste your time.

meanwhile, if you MUST continue to read this thread, i urge you to consider it like a big bouncy trampoline with cheese and trombone music (if we redefine "music") and off to the side is a big, square bowling ball with a sign that says "i am round if i believe i am."

    think of the chillllldren!!!!

and then take a nice deep breath of clearly visible mauve oxygen.

  • Be careful.  I just put floor wax on the trampoline.

Also, the mauve oxygen is visible and you have to think of the children because they're hypothetical and therefore invisible.  If you stop thinking of them, they cease to exist (or maybe never existed at all).

  • Alright. I propose we allow this monster to continue into its forth page and then immediately uh... How do you stop a thread? Other than just ceasing your replies, of course. As long as Mr. Dawgg keeps coming back there will be people who feel they must reply. Can we petition a dev to delete the post? Are there moderators here?

  • omg flask.......Just as I read the 'no drinks at the computer, and nothing up my nose' comments, I was taking a drink of coffee.  I had to go change shirts........roflmao.

And about chrs, when  I was 5, and in Kindergarten, I was asked by a girl named Elizabeth what my mothers name was.  I said naively 'Momma'.  They proposed that I was wrong, and my mommy had a name that other people called her. I was furious at those kids for making up such lies about my 'Momma'. She told me that was her name, my entire life!!!  I went home that night and told my 'Momma' how awful the kids at school were, they were making up awful stories about her, and I never wanted to go back.

She hugged me and through her laughter she said 'Baby girl, my name is Donna. Those other kids are right.' I was desvestated that my mother had lied to me all those years!!  She told me to call her 'Momma', my dad even said everyday 'Where is momma"..... It ruined my life, but I eventually came to my senses and got over it. I had been wrong.  However, I still call her 'Momma'. ;)

  • Haha, I love it!

On another "kids are cute" topic, the kid I frequently babysit for was playing outside with me the other day when his mom came home.  She was my professor awhile back, and we've worked together, grown a friendship of sorts, and so of course I sit for her when she has to deal with work.

Well, he sees us sitting there, chatting, and comes running up, super excited.  He takes one of my hands and one of hers, and proudly declares, "TWO moms!"

  • Innie, my friend Miklos is Hungarian - when his mom, Anyu, came to visit we all called her Anyu (she doesn't speak much English, but we all had a ball working things out with sign language and occasional translations from Miklos).

Turns out her name is Magdi.  Anyu is Hungarian for "mom."  Apparently she liked it so much that her son's friends called her "mom" she told Miklos not to correct us!

  • As someone just coming into this whole mess, it looks like Mr. Dawg is trolling. Either that, or his views will stay as is and not change. Why even have these confrontations with him? (And what is with the trombones, cheese, and lubricant??? LOL)

  • Dear Mr. Jackoff-
Just so we can understand your point of view better, can you name a game that you DO NOT consider a family game?  I mean you personally, 100% believe is is no way a game for families at all.  It can be a board game or online or cellphone, whatever.  I just want to know a non family game for reference.
    Thank you from my ass.

  • Glitch is unrated. That's the way it is. We can argue about what it ought to be, but what it is is an unrated game (and being an anarchist, I hope it will remain so). With neither a rating system nor anybody authorized to enforce one, what any other criteria should be is a matter of opinion.

The only criterium for "family game" status that makes sense to me is how the company positions the game. I've seen two pieces of marketing: the Web site and the wait-your-way video, www.youtube.com/user/Glitch... . Neither makes any mention of it being a family game, as far as I can recall. So it's not a family game. Mr. Dawgg is asking TS to say what the game isn't; TS is saying what the game is.

Also, that doesn't mean they're trying to exclude families, or anyone else outside the target audience. It most likely means they don't have tons of money to spend on international advertising, so it makes sense to gear the game toward a largely untapped audience and narrowly (and more cheaply) market to them.

As to the game itself, my experience suggests that the audience it mostly attracts is people who like to play easy games with a witty and sometimes intellectual bent, and who like to have intelligent conversations while they're doing it. Additionally, many make reference to adult responsibilities, enough that I suspect the majority to be adults, young or otherwise.

Also, I need another hug :)

  • oh and since this is a family game, Im going to ask my mother to play...but she insists on her glitch being named after her favorite bumper sticker:
" Fuck you, you fucking fuck."
Since this is a family game and a mom is part of a family, that will be ok right?
