How many betas were there?

I'm strictly asking out of pure curiosity.  How many beta testers were there for Glitch?

Are you still beta testers now?  Or did that end once the game went live?

  • there were thousands of beta testers, but i'm not sure how many were avid users. :) beta is done, so while we're still beta testers in our hearts, our work here is done.

  • oh, thousands....really?  Wow.  I thought maybe a few hundred.
I know diddly about developing a game, so I just wondered how that worked.

Did you play the game and report issues, concerns, opinions, etc., or did you actually help build the game...how does that work?  Is it a volunteer type of situation?

Do you have to know a lot about game development to be a beta tester or can you be anyone at any gaming level?  Do you have to know the mechanics of game development or just be willing to play and report back?

I guess I'm wondering how many people it actually takes to put a game like this together.

I dabbled in HTML and CSS for a short time, and I know how much work goes into putting together a decent Web page.  I cannot even imagine what goes into something like this.
    It's fascinating.

Sorry about all of the questions...I guess I'm just really curious.  :-)

Well, anyway...this is quite a game.  I'm really impressed with it.  My friends are sick of hearing me go on about how cool it is.  LOL
I'm glad I heard about it when it first went live.

  • You don't have to know diddly squat about developing a game to be a beta tester. You just gotta play and report. Beta testers are regular people that would be like the average player if the game were open to all.

We simply played (as we do now that it's launched) and reported bugs and issues and whatnot to the developers. We also gave opinions about what we felt like did and didn't work. We did help build the world some, through street projects like the ones showing up now (testing them as we expanded the world). Those are all things that everyone can still do; it's just considered a bit more polished now and ready for more of the public to play as well.

  • Holy smokes!!!!
How did all of these people hear about the opportunity to become a beta tester for Glitch?

  • I heard through a friend who heard through another friend, I believe. I only got here around the end of April.

  • Some got invited.  Others heard about it through friends or through Twitter, etc.  I and more than 200 other players of Faunasphere came here when our game closed.  We heard about it in the Faunasphere Forums.  A few of us were already Alpha testers here.
