I was wondering what everyone thoughts were on the being able to own two homes instead of the current suitation of being able to own just the one home.
I'd actually love this, honestly. I really want a bog house to set a tele to and fill up with more of my hoarded goodies. The fireflies, barnacles, and herb plots would be great too. :)
However, it'd probably just give me even MORE to keep track of. :P Especially since I'd want another herd of animals in the basement.
I'd love it, if only for the geographical possibilities of being able to keep things nearer to where I work and spend most of my time, as well as my (pretty distant) house in Kalavana.
Given there's something of a shortage of the most desirable houses at the moment (there aren't any in Groddle Forest, Groddle Meadow, or Alakol, and no ₡50,000 homes in Salatu), perhaps it's good that people can't buy more than one.
I'd actually prefer a (correspondingly more expensive) new kind of home that allows for both underground and above ground environments that isn't tiny like the cave homes. Maybe for 100,000 we could get a mansion with a basement? Be able to grow both crops and herbs, have and egg tree *and* some spice, fruit, gas, etc. trees, keep a resident firefly swarm and barnacles along with our pigs and chickens? I hate having to choose between and I wouldn't mind something big to work toward.
I agree with blech. Many people want the same kind of house, and if every Glitch could buy 2 houses it would mean the need for a lot more housing estates.
I agree that owning multiple homes would cause issues with already limited real estate. Like Gwynhefar, I'd like to see mansions that offer a broader range of features.
Id rather see purchasable upgrades to existing homes that let you do more with them. Like buying a basement to grow herbs or pens in cottages etc etc. This option in my opinion doesn't set up housing as a conquest where when you hit a certain amount of wealth you just move and would allow you to keep the house you have no matter its price bracket and simply improve on it tailoring it into to what you want. Thus making your house your home.
I sold my 50k house in Alakol for a 15k cottage in Bortola over aesthetic issues. Honestly rather just keep the cottage and improve on it than move to a bigger mansion. Its not a matter of money I'm a miner I just found the 50k to be gaudy.Maybe I'm the only one that doesn't want much bigger than a cottage?
@Lucille and @blech - I kind of confirmed the other day via Live Help (via dev via helper) that registering multiple accounts for the purposes of owning more than one house so that both veges and herbs can be grown is permitted. Sounds like the powers that be aren't really concerned about the housing situation.
Why not ask for a Metal, Dullite, Beryl and Sparkly Rock in the basement as well? Maybe a batterfly? or Jelli-sacs? or a Peat Bog? or a Dirt Pile?
If they made Gwynhefar's Wonder Home, everyone would be even more shut-in then they are now. I already barely leave my house as it is, if I had access to virtually every resource without leaving my home, why would I leave at all?
The reason you have to travel to access different resources is because this game promotes different Regions. Each Region has a dominate or unique resource to offer, without that no one would visit certain Regions (looking at you Arana).
And a lot of customization is coming, and it will be extensive from everything I've read stated by the devs. So I'm waiting it out in my wonderful 15k cottage (that I don't want to move out of).
I agree with TRB4, homes have to be resource constrained to encourage exploring the world for what can't be gotten at home and interactions for trading and such. I want it all in one too, but don't think its for the best.
I really doubt that one firefly swarm, or one mining node, or 3 barnacles is going to keep people from going out into the world to get more. You're more likely as a cook to not need to go out of your house than some of those other things (if you have enough tree plots and gardening... even then, likely to need to go out).
People need too many to be able to subsist only on the resources in their houses. And if they are going to try to subsist on that, they will have to supplement it via the auction, which they can already do to avoid getting out of the house to gather resources.
I would like to opportunity to build my own home. It would probably have to be a second home, because I would need a place to grow and store all the different materials I'd need while working on the construction. But I think it would be a fun project to design a house to my specs (maybe from some prefab components but with a greater variety than is currently offered for sale) and then gather the necessary goods. I could have my dream home at last! Plus, it would give me something to do that would be more satisfying than collecting trophies.
What I would like the most is the opportunity to buy a new home and have at least a one Glitch Day time to move into it before the old home locks me out. That would give me time to move all of my items to the new home without having to wrangle a number of friends into dropping their bags and their projects to help me move across the world. I can finally afford a larger house but I have items stacked all over my house and yard. It would take an army to move it all. Besides, i think I'll wait to see what "upgrade" options for changing our homes are offered.
The only thing I'd desperately like to see is the ability to do herbs -and- garden stuff in the same house, just because currently it's possible to have both skills and no reasonable recourse for having your own gardening space to do both.
If we actually had to go out and collect stuff, almost like a street build, it would make it a lot more personal. Maybe make it so we could change the color of a dirt block before it gets set in place, allow us to position garden and tree plots, digging a basement that only a few digs could be done a day .....
As I understand it, scarcity of real-estate is a non-issue- pretty sure I've heard devs say that new housing is a simple mouse-click.
Besides, what'd be the point in having two houses if you bought them in the same region? Some people may long for the GM cottages, but I'd imagine most people with two houses would do it more for geographical/gardening concerns.
I *love* the idea of being able to build your own house from resources that you gather yourself, choosing whether to use garden space for trees or veg plots, digging your own basement at 5 digs per day, etc.
I'd quite like to stay with the "one house that you own outright" thing, but ALSO, as in real life, the ability to *rent* a Storage Unit and/or an Allotment at high cost (maybe with options to pay extra for upkeep).
This would mean that players would still have to make the choices about housing, eg to have a herb garden or a veg garden, which trees to grow, which area to live in... and there would still be the incentive to cut down your inventory and enlist friends for a house-move... but added to that would be the choice of paying an exorbitant amount of currants for the convenience of a service. Some power-players would probably have permanent Allotments or Storage, others would use it for a day or two while moving or a month or two while house-building.
I love @Batsgirl's idea about allotments - I would LOVE an allotment in the firebogs! There's only three community herb gardens, and not only is it difficult to find space at busy times, you also have to go to the trouble of fertilising and then standing over your plants like a hawk so no one else nicks the results.
It would be great if we could buy cheap allotment spaces (500c to buy?) with 5 crop or herb plots, a couple of patches, a dirt pile, maybe a shed with some storage capacity (or alternately no shed for the cheapest ones, but the opportunity to pay 1000c for an allotment with a shed), and of course you could keep animals there too. New players would really benefit too - I'd have loved an allotment when I was starting out and couldn't afford a house yet.
Hate the way the community gardens work.
Would totally love a second home,or at least a nice wee allotment
~that can be planted and harvested only by me,ie no one could swoop in and take what isn't theirs to take!
I agree with Master E, Gwyn, and Citizen Squee newer homes and upgrades on existing homes would be a big help for people who want to either purchase new homes or love their existing home and want to upgrade on what they are living in (random reference) sorta like harvest moon or animal crossing (with the upgrading and building). I also completely agree with Brib Annie on having a full in game day to move your things from your old home to your new one, because personally if I were to move I wouldn't even be close to fitting everything into my bags and having to buy/send spare bags to friends would be a unnecessary cost and a hassle especially after buying a new home.
I'd love a second home, actually I'd love tons of homes. One in each area would be nice :)
@Jewel Stoned, I thought this was about multiple homes on one account.
I also don't like the idea of second homes, but I do like the idea of building (or expanding) your own home the way you like it. I believe the staff have also given an indication of heading in that direction already. From the Blog:
"Depending on the house’s basic plan, you may also be able to upgrade and expand, adding rooms or new floors. And all the land-development features coming up for the group locations will also apply to your back yard."
I am on my first home, so I've never had to move, but I also like the idea of having a game day to move from one house to another. I have a lot of stuff, and not a lot of friends to help me move if/when I decide I need a bigger place. EDIT: Upon reflection, the Storage space option Batsgirl presented is a much better option. Hire allotments for specific periods of time. Exactly the same as a house, game-play wise, but smaller and uglier and with a continuous cost as opposed to once off payment. You can use one permanently if you so wish instead of (or in addition to) a house, if you can afford it continuously.
@Jewel Stoned- I could really use a second home; meanwhile, I only play with one account (don't see that changing anytime soon, either, since my account's paid up for a year).
Yeah +1 to Gwenyfar, I wish we could have a house with BOTH dark / herb plots AND "regular" / crop plots. =/
I loved the firebogs too much to stay away; I just traded my 50k Salatu home for a tiny little 5k firebog cabin, and I don't plan to move until something like what Gwenyfar has suggested is open. <3
We need a way to "rent" a spot in the community gardens or herb gardens. A cost/spot that would lock it to your name for a little bit. A pop up saying you have 10 min to get your plants when they are done. After that they are fair game for everyone to nab.
Gotta say I find it hilarious that this thread is, currently, right next to the ohnoes! not enough homes! inactive users are taking em all up! thread.
Also as a swamp dweller without a crop garden, I'd love to be able to grow crops... but I do not think that houses should have both. Or, if they do, it's maybe 3 plots of each or, perhaps, a single potted garden thinger (which would be cool if we could place on our doorstep securely). As much as we may hate it, there's something to be said for choice. Being able to have easy access to anything you want right in your home would, well, make things not quite as interesting.
But I love the idea of being able to rent a couple plots. It'd be interesting to see what sort of community comes out of something like that... I'll grow the tomatoes and you grow the potatoes.
I wanted one of those gothic, japanese, or video game themed cottages. I bought up a bunch of bags and and sold my old treehouse so that I could make the jump on one the moment it was freed. I got that and now I don't really want to move. If I just couldn't find one of those, I would have "settled" for a swamp house, only because it allowed me to grow my own eggs and gas.
However, in the beggining storage was an issue, but now all of my original pack space hold bigger bags and toolbox. My house's floor is littered with music boxes and soon i'll have icons and whatever other collectibles. Its weird, but out of 36 (I think) spaces of cabinet storage, I'm only using like 5 spaces for random tools that I don't use often. Every single thing is on my character in those bags. I cook and I have so much random stuff in there!
I'm prefectly fine running around the streets and mines, especially since I have teleportation and purchased a few tokens. I explore a little and fill my bags with ore, eggs, barnicales and whatever else. Then I head home to drop of my musicboxes and craft away.
