Fuel Cells, De-vendored

"Fuel Cells will now no longer be available at vendors- from now on, rely on your good crafting skills!"
Yay!
I like de-vendorization, because it makes us rely on ourselves and each other.
Which made me wonder what everyone elses' opinions on de-vendorization are.

  • I should have bought a whole bunch before this happened since I'm too lazy to make them...sigh... ;)

The challenge is the price will go through the roof for them now...seems folks always like to overinflate the value of items they are attempting to sell (and hey, I do the same thing, if I can get away with it).  I like the stability of pricing that the vendors provide; however, I know some like to 'play the market', so I'm sure they are happy.

  • As long as I can make it, I don't need to buy it from a vendor.  Auctions are sweet, because I don't have to go anywhere.  I worship the Delivery Frog.

  • I don't mind. I have piles of peat from getting the gathering achievement, and it wasn't used in anything else. I think anything that can be obtained in game should not be at vendors.

But I will admit it was handy to buy them. I rarely made them because they were buyable. I agree with B3achy that the price will go up alot right away. Lots of people will be speculating that Urth blocks will be important, and therefore will need fuel cells.

  • I love that they did this. I think that all craftable items should bw un vendorable.

  • de-vendorization is good. However! at some point it would be nice if auctions had a "want to buy" as some of the less used items aren't always available.

After the spike in fuel cell prices and people get frustrated with the wonky blockmaking mechanics I bet there will be times when there isn't a single fuel cell for sale.

  • I didn't actually realize they are still sold by vendors.

Anyway, I believe Tiny Speck plans to eliminate vendor items over time and seriously reduce the number and usefulness of vendors in the future.  But I believe they also plan a complete overhaul of how the economy functions before that happens, likely including changes to the auction system, so I expect that when all is said and done, the availability of items and the moment to moment of most players' game time will change very little while opening up new play styles for those that are interested. Win-win.

  • That does seem to be the mode of operation.  I find it pretty impressive!

  • I think there should be a way around it.. possibly making/buying a new engine should have enough fuel in it to make one fuel cell... or something.

Just so one person can never, quite, make things impossible for himself and be completely at the mercy of the market.

  • I think when you build a machine, it does start with 50/100 units of fuel.  But I could be wrong -- been a long time since I put together a new machine.

  • It does, Saucelah.

  • I only just discovered they were even sold by vendors last week [facepalm], so not much is going to change for me with respect to fuel cells...personally, I like to try and craft my own wares etc., whenever possible...I thought it was awesome when they made the hooch vendors dry!

  • Bought 10 cells yesterday, lucky me!
Making blocks I found out that if you spend all the fuel, disassemble and assemble the machine back again, the fuel level is back to 50/100 - but you need to disassemble the machine completely for that to work, so it's not practical at all.
