Glitch fresh post on Facebook

Glitch
To all those who want to help test Glitch … It's true, it can take a long time for us to work through the queue. However, if you watch this space and twitter.com/playglitch for the queue-jumping link, you'll get in the next time we have queue-jumping open. We should be opening it up *soon*!

Oooo, soon! ???

  • Finally. I miss the dewy eyed newblets asking about salt and butter a bit more than I probably should, especially since I was once not so long ago.

  • yaaaa does this mean I get to take my dunces hat off?
Has anyone also seen the new game status ?

Where once there was a play test, now there is only an empty longing in our hearts. But soon, so very, very soon, all will begin anew, and we shall resume again our joyous frolic through the verdant land of Ur. See you soon, my friends!

  • Soon is a relative word that can get derailed at any time.

The announcements are generally quite reliable but since they concern in-progress software it's not realistic to plan around them in _too_ much detail, e.g.

"pretty soon we're going to have a solid schedule for the rest of January and first bit of February and intend to both post it in advance (days, not hour/minute) and then stick to it!" - alpha.glitch.com/forum/gene...

"Yes, there will be [a reset] sometime around the the end of January — don't know when yet, but we will announce it in advance." - alpha.glitch.com/forum/gene...

  • There was also this comment added to the facebook post by Glitch staff:

To clarify: by "soon" we mean "as soon as we can". We'd like to see a significant improvement in performance before we start getting new people in so their first experience is the snappy and responsive game client of old.

There are a lot of things coming *soon*, "soon", soon , someday, "in the fullness of time".

    We're getting there!

  • Meh... take your time. We're just going through post-test DT's. : D

Personally I'd rather see a polished, stable product go to market. The funky Flash crashes and lag-o-matic fun of last test have ruined many a game in their first months.

On the Flash note... anyway we can get something thrown into the Help section about updating your Flash (preferably with a link to go do it) and 'Version for Glitch should be XYZ or higher'. Might save a little confusion / frustration from new folks over time.

  • Travinara: that's a good point. If people have very old versions, we do prompt them to upgrade, but we don't prompt on each update (unless it seems like that update makes a very big difference in terms of performance). We should put a permanent info link at the top of the page though.

For anyone reading this who's curious, you can check which version you are running here: kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15... (10.2 or higher is recommended) and get the latest here: get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
