Learning Time Reduction and switching skills

I know that if you switch skills when fast learning you lose all the time you gained. It would be nice to know how much gained that you would lose if you switched.

  • This still confuses me. It seems to me that when I click on a shrine to have my learning time cut down "Use N points to reduce your learning time by N minutes" that that reduction should occur immediately and that if then I choose to pause that skill and switch to another I should not lose the gains I just purchased with favor.

Is that what happens, or am I missing this completely?

  • When you switch skills you do not lose the time that you sped up but you lose the ability to speed it up any more. The wording of the warning is not accurate.

TCF, that is how it works.

  • When I switch skills, even if I used no favor points, the time I have left increases. Every time I Learn any skill, the times for all other skills increases

  • @ Purple Haze, it's that way by design. Per Stoot's comment in a thread about Better Learning:

The base times have not been changed, but, as discussed in some other forum thread a very long time ago, we finally switched to a system where there are "decreasing returns" — the more skills you learn, the longer it will take to learn further ones.

Right now it is set up such that, starting with your 10th skill, each additional skill you learn will cause a (compounding) 5% increase in the length of time to learn another. So, skill #20 will take 63% longer than the base time and skill #40 will take 432% longer.

The better learning skills also now have an additional benefit: starting with BL II, the increase the number of skills you can learn before that 5% increase starts ticking in.

And soon we'll be adding "unlearning" skills, so you can once unlearn skills you don't want any more as you move up.

  • I knew there was an increase, but not the specifics behind it. I only said that to make the distinction that the time lost occurs even when favor points aren't used.

+1 to the idea of seeing how much time is lost when switching.

Does the ttime increase happens as soon as you start learning a skill or after it's learned? I can't remember, but the fact it retroactively adds time to paused skills irks me a bit.

  • The increase happens after you finish learning a skill. The threshold where the 'Embiggify' or diminished returns starts depends on your Better Learning. Also the rate is 3%, it got tweaked.
