MACHINES!!!

We need more machines, and more uses for the machines we have. We can currently build 3 kinds of blocks and bricks, and we can make fuel-cells- which power the blockmaker. That's about it. And while there are some uses for blocks and bricks, they aren't nearly as in-demand for street-projects as one might think. I know there will be housing customizations and expansions, as well as group halls, but those, as far as I'm concerned, are pie-in-the-sky at the moment- they're gonna happen "soon", but in the meantime there's not much use for the Engineering skills. Please, Tiny Speck, let us have more to do with these skills, more to build (that can't be bought at vendors; very important), things like, say, automated fruit-pickers and miners of limited capacity and fuel-efficiency (brought up as long ago as beta, to keep people from raking in the dough with them while sitting in their houses at AFK, but good enough to have use), or vehicles (I know lots of people are dying for boats, or maybe blimps or, hell, mechs), or maybe simply toys, something other than Cubimals that, again, can't be bought at vendors
Anybody have other ideas for more machines/uses for Engineering skills?

  • Howabout to make Printing Machines - to print flyers, posters and artwork that can then be stuck on walls around Ur.
Also a Harvesting Machine that'll water and harvest your crops (we have a meat collector but nothing to harvest crops...c'mon!)

Just making blocks and fuel cells hasn't tempted me to bother with Engineering at all so far.

  • @Geezereth- I understand completely the hesitance to get Engineering skills- didn't do them at all in beta, and I mostly got 'em this time around *just in case* something more important/useful can be done with 'em soon (fingers crossed). Both of those ideas are pretty good, though!

  • @Zanzahar- personally, I want automated robots. This has been brought up before (don't remember where or I'd link to that thread- it was a looong time ago), that we should be able to build and customize robots that will, say, mine 100 chunks of rock an hour or harvest 250 bubbles an hour. To keep people from using these exclusively as their prime means of income, they might have to be refueled frequently (either a message tells you where the robot's at or it comes back to your house when it's out of fuel) and may have to be repaired fairly regularly. I know some people think that it'd be a bad idea, but I figure if the robots are not able to mine as long or as much as a person, they could simply augment your supplies rather than provide them solely. There's been talk (again, quite awhile ago) about programmable NPCs by the devs, and this idea seems like the sort of thing that could work in that same vein.

  • I'd love to see some more uses for my mostly useless engineering skills.  Right now I just kind of take apart my block/fuel machines and put them back together and then wonder why I  bothered.

  • @Wintera - I mostly just make a ridiculous amount of blocks and pile 'em up by type in various corners of my house- no idea how much I even have at this point :/

  • Automated mining in some form. Automated smelting (in bulk). Kitchen automation. Automated storefronts for players (i.e., I can produce items, stock my machine, and let it run until it's out).

  • I particularly like the idea of vending machines (Malakh mentioned this to me the other day as well), provided you can sell pretty much anything you could auction from them... I wonder how that would work, though- would you rent space to place it, or could you just drop it any ol' place (without it getting stolen)?

  • If objects can currently be identified as belonging to a player, then one would simply ignore the timestamp for dropped objects. They might have to limit placement, so that Groddle Junction doesn't turn into a strip mall ...

  • You could make a vending machine a doorstep item like the Gnome or pumpkins.

  • That was the idea for the vending machine; drop it in front of your house and let your customers get stuff from it like they would a street spirit vendor.

  • I would love to have stands tho, to sell stuff, a mini stand/shop like this and yeah a printing machine for notes would help me out a lot! ;D but i need one that could print serial numbers too...

The only prob i see with this stuff are the potential spam, bcs we would start to see lots of crazy stuff out there, but idk, I guess they could try to make something.

+1 for printing note machine and stand ;D
