Rebalance Cheese

Right now if you start a new glitch and choose EZ Cooking as your first skill you get several recipes that use Cheese as an ingredient.  Unfortunately, to get Cheese you need to use 2.2 currants worth of butterfly lotion, spend 10 energy massaging a butterfly, 10 energy milking that butterfly, 2 energy turning the milk to butter and 5 energy turning the butter to Cheese for 27 energy and 2.2 currants.  A Cheezy Sammich, which requires a Cheese, only gives you 23 energy when you eat it - not enough to even make another Cheese.

By contrast you only need to spend 9 energy to get one Meat with no skill and Meat is worth more than Cheese.

The problem continues at high level, of course, since paying 2 energy to convert an 8 currant item (milk) into a 6 currant item (butter) is never a good idea, but it seems very pronounced for a starting glitch who is given recipes that they cannot reasonably make.

  • I can only imagine how annoying cheese is at lower levels. I removed my butterfly milker and have spent a few end-of-day no-no deaths converting my milk stores to cheese to snacks to donate to giants. When that is over I am never going to make cheese again. It's too energy expensive with no payoff.

  • That sounds totally reasonable but I am mostly posting because the title of this thread makes me giggle.

  • And you don't get any iMG. I've given up on cheese totally.

  • We ought to hold a REBALCHEESE riot or something. Riots get things done around here ;)

  • +1 I like making cheese ONLY if I'm trying not to level and I need to kill my energy (it's a great energy killer, but not much else) and would like to see it better.

  • +1  Amen! When Humbabella talks numbers, stoot needs to listen!

  • Yes! I noticed similar problems with many cooking skills. The collective energy of the items I was putting in didn't make it all the way out. It made me wonder why I didn't just eat meat and milk and such raw, at that point. It should never be this way. Cooking something should make the product at least equal in the energy required to both make the product and also the energy in the items themselves. Even then, it wouldn't really be worth anything but consolidation. So...I'm hoping they shuffle a lot of those numbers around.

  • I agree with this. I completely ignored cheese as a newbie after realizing how ridiculously difficult and unrewarding it is. Actually, almost everything compares rather poorly to eating raw meat, which is sad.

Edit: Lazy salad is perhaps the most misnamed dish in the game. You're required to make one during the tutorial, as I recall. I think this is probably the only one I have ever made.

  • Exactly what Humbabella and Pascale said......Cheese at this point is a total failure.

  • Very Very Stinky Cheese was always been my favorite item to "craft" when I was a n00b two years ago. Two. Years. Ago. Yikes!

Still, I love carrying that stuff around -- it packs a punch.

  • Yes!  Cheese is so amazing RL, why is it so annoying in the game?  One thing I hate, which I don't think has been mentioned yet, is that you can't "Make More" right from the recipe screen (since it doesn't use a kitchen tool), which means more clicking and UI fussiness if you want to make a recipe that uses it.

  • Not specifically about cheese, but stoot did say recipes were due for tweaking:

  • Cheese got the nerf bat last year when it was extremely easy and profitable to convert milk to stinky cheese and vendor it. I agree it got over-nerfed.
