Just bought my first home... all advice welcome

I just bought a tree house a few days ago and am looking for advice as to what to do next. I bought a few packs of seeds and planted those earlier today. I would like to incubate my eggs but don't know a safe place to do that. I would also like to plant some trees but dont have a bean seasoner yet because I do not have the botany skill.... will be working towards that soon. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

  • Buy some beans from the auction and get your trees going. To incubate eggs you need the skill Animal Husbandry. Do you have that yet?

As for getting some pigs...well there are plenty of homeless pigs wandering the streets...

  • You can incubate your eggs anywhere safely. When the chicken is done with it, so long as you are near, it will go directly to your inventory. :)

If you'd like some tree beans, I can make you some.

  • If you are able, buy some pig bait and catch a pig.  I suggest no more than two of each animal.  I started in a tree house.  I had 4 pigs, 3, chickens and 3 butterflies.  They were constantly in the way as I advanced in the animal skills.  They loved me too much, I couldn't tend the garden.  Ask a friend if thier chicken can incubate your eggs for you.

  • There is a way to tend gardens without animals getting in the way anymore. You just have to select the garden plots and use your arrow keys and enter to do all the actions. Doing it that way keeps you from selecting the silly little buggers on accident while trying to plant/water/hoe. It actually seems a lot faster too, especially if you have the seeds you want in your inventory.

I used to feel the same way in beta in my cottages. But since I started gardening again in my cottage after launch, I've noticed this method. I'm not sure if it's new since the last time I owned a cottage (mid-August) or not (I probably just didn't realize it before).

  • I was a long way from Botany and resorted to just buying seasoned beans from the auctions.

If you have AH, I don't think people can steal the eggs being incubated? They'll hatch into either a piglet/caterpillar/chick that goes straight into your inventory. So just find any chicken that'll let you borrow them for a second. :)

And my only advice after that is to make sure you feed them when you're inside your house. I made the mistake of feeding my chick outside and I added to the wild chicken population. lol

  • IMO, having chickens and pigs in the yard is more of a distraction than anything, although I am looking forward to finishing RHK and buying a place with a pen.    These animals are easy enough to find out on the street, and pigs in your yard need to be fed.   They will poop out seeds, but that's such a hassle - it's worth it to me to scan the auctions and look for seeds that are offered below vendor list.

  • Nah, don't steal public piggies off the street...
The piglets are so cute and you'd miss out on raising your own.  I will make one piggie egg or piglet for you.. for free.  To incubate an egg you ask a chicken, then it sits on it for a minute, and you cannot leave or you will lose the egg.  The chicken tells you when it is done.  You go to the chicken and the baby appears in your inventory.  So, no one can steal it.   Take the piglet to your pen or backyard.  Feed it veggies a couple of times and *poof* a pig.

  • thank you for all the advice. I have already made one chicken egg, one pig egg and one butterfly egg.
I would have looked for a place with a pen but seemed like they were all sold (or maybe they were more than I could afford at the time.) **smile**

  • If you release/hatch the piggies in your tree house they will not go down to the yard. Butterflies and chickens will still fly down though. But that's a few less animals in your way at least.

  • Nonono, hatch a piggie yourself, the piggies are running short in Ur!
Always have more than one butterfly per milker so that your butterflies will last for a longer period of time.
Chickens aren't of much use, unless you're a grain person. So don't keep that chicken trapped up in a house - let it go into the wild, where it will have room to fly around and avoid those squeezy hands!
