"when will it open?" threads

Sorry, guys, but these things get old. The devs will open the game when the game is ready. There is at least one of these threads after every single test, and it isn't necessary. Tests normally open Wednesday/Thursday. Please, be patient and leave it at that. Thanks :)

  • LOL bored! Sticky ideas!

Well, perspective - my DH is a dev (not here) and thinks the WWIO posts are great. It means they're doing a good job making a game that people want to play. I have no idea how the little speck devs feel.

  • +1 Ebil Please let's not go down the minimodding path again. :-(
Posted 17 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ Cupcake - I see where you are coming from :) Probably a sticky would be good, I find it annoying having to check through several WWIO threads to see if Pepper_Rose or any of the Devs have responded in any of them.

I generally awake at 4am or so (my time) to play when the game opens so it is nice to have a few hours warning, and not have to rely on a friend sending me text message when it opens.

  • I'd like to make it clear that I in no way intended to minimod, nor was I trying to push rules on anyone or moderate the forum. I was just suggesting that people try being more patient.

@Heyoheya: ...Yeah, um, that's not what I'm saying. At all. I think you're overinterpreting a bit.

    @Cerulean: Haha, well said ;)

@Rascalmom: Thanks for that perspective, but that's not it in this case :) Just me being slightly bugged.

  • Minimodding? <raises hand> Guilty!! :) I really am a board and game moderator, just not here. I get some reflexive habits. :p

  • @Cupcake As I said, it's in several threads, and several places in this thread, not just from you. That's why I didn't direct it at you. Please, don't take it personally. :)

  • Heyoheya, okay, that's cool, but next time try to make that clearer...when I see "How about we remove everything that annoys anyone? Professing our love for the game and engaging in some "Is it Christmas morning, yet?" hysteria annoys staff/family of staff? Okay, well, by all means, that's right out. How about people who misuse commas? Or don't capitalize correctly? OR WRITE IN ALL CAPS? Someone's gotta find that annoying," in my thread, I assume you're pissed at me ;)
Posted 17 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Cupcake, I said that it was a forum-wide problem. It really isn't just you. :)

  • Well if one thread about an abundance of threads can draw some attention and, hopefully, bring about a resolution to prevent a billion other unneeded threads from cropping up, well, that's definitely worth a shot.

A lot of these threads aren't about control. A lot of them really are about common sense and asking if people really have it. Does it really make sense to have THREE threads on the front page asking when the game is going to open? In fact, I see more control issues in the DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO! side of the argument... but whatevs.

  • @Cerulean, my beef is with people making this an unwelcoming place by creating rules that don't actually exist. I don't like seeing people shamed/talked down to/instructed for no good reason just because a vocal minority want to implement their forum rubric. It discourages involvement. My understanding was that Glitch was about encouraging involvement.
Posted 17 months ago by Heyoheya Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Heyoheya -- Sorry, I wasn't trying to be passive-aggressive with you. It really is something that I've seen a lot of in the forums altogether, and you didn't even really come to mind when I thought about it.

Also, there are certain rules that are existent and not explicitly posted. As for a vocal minority, what you're saying should apply to them, as well. They shouldn't be shamed for voicing their opinions, either.

I don't think most of these threads shame anyone. A lot of them are just, like, "really? Is that necessary?" It's a sincere question. And I've yet to see anyone provide a reasonable answer for why there is a need to have three duplicate (triplicate?) threads asking the same question.

I think that if people has listed to my suggestion that we create mroe forum categories things would be different. Things like "QUESTIONS" and "NEW USERS" forums. Forums in which people would be more than encouraged to ask questions or simply introduce themselves. I have also argued for the separation of the GENERAL forum from a "META" forum, because GENERAL could apply to anything and I have seen people annoyed by the fact that people have asked about Faunasphere, or that I've created threads about Pottermore and Star Wars TOR. I'm sure a lot of people would be happy to see those threads in a forum not related to what they're really interested in (and those would be the people really looking to talk about Glitch-only stuff on the forums).

  • Lucky for us we can make as many threads as we want HA HAHA.  And on any subject we want.  Control freaks must be going out of their heads, in the back of their itty bitty minds maybe they feel we should be taxed or charged for every thread created in duplicate or more.  Except for their threads of complaints.
Posted 17 months ago by xoxJulie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Like I said, both sides are control freaks that disagree. So I suppose only morons with "itty bitty minds" are even bothering arguing about this.

  • Well, considering kevbob just popped into the latest "when" thread and gave an answer, I don't really think the bump was necessary. People still want to know and TS still doesn't seem to mind telling. But that is just my opinion, you, of course, are entitled to yours.

  • see, this is why it's good to say a thing when you revive a post!  ;D

also, i always liked the term they use in kingdom of loathing forums for bringing an old thread back to life - to "necro".

    i'm a banana!
Posted 16 months ago by katlazam Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You're all bananas.

Perhaps the staff could use the "Game status" section of the home page to let us know when tests will start.  Then no one would have to comb through forum posts for this information, and no one would have to start another WWIO thread.

ETA: Sorry, I'd forgotten that I already wrote this idea earlier in this same thread.  I still think it's a good one, though!  :D
Posted 16 months ago by glum pudding Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm not saying the staff very much minds telling, and I'm not saying it's a huge annoyance, and I'm not saying it needs to stop RIGHT NOW. Nor, for that matter, am I minimodding. I'm just saying that it's excessive. There are often numerous ones for one test. And then, once people get the date? They go on to beg for the time. It's great how enthusiastic everyone is about the game (believe me, I feel the same way!) - I'm merely suggesting everyone take a deep breath. Maybe express your enthusiasm another way (how about writing a haiku?). It will open. The devs are working extremely hard to get this thing ready for launch, and people constantly nagging them to know when it's going to open just doesn't seem like the best way to help out.

  • I'm sorry it bothers you so much Cupcake. It just really doesn't bother me a bit. (I'm not trying to be sarcastic - I really am sorry that you find this troubling.)
Posted 16 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks, appreciate it. I'm not offended or anything. I'm just suggesting that people take a step back and look at it in a different way :)

  • Another way to look at these threads is "safety", at least we aren't out playing on the freeways.

  • Oh, good point. What was I thinking? ;)
Posted 16 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not only do I have housework to attend to but also 4.3 acres that I need to mow and weed-eat and sprinklers to set and animals to tend plus trips to town for shopping. I live in a very rural area and the trips to town are an all day event.
When I started in January I had more playing/testing time but with summer comes lots of chores outside.
Therefore I really like to know approximately when the tests are going to be so I can plan accordingly.

  • I've seen @kevbob already lock one thread of this nature with a link to one with his announcement. They don't mind them so much as long as there is only one!
Posted 16 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • When will it close, please?
Posted 16 months ago by Dura Den Subscriber! | Permalink
  • My point isn't that they express strong animosity towards WWIO threads. My point is that if you think about it, it might be mildly irritating. I don't mean for this to become an issue, I just wanted to point that out.
Posted 16 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have to be honest, OP, the when will it open threads really do seem to be working these days, as we generally get an answer and if enough people jump on the bandwagon, the game seems to then open that day or the next ;-) So I am grateful for others asking and saving me the bother. I think the game creators should be pleased we are all so keen to play :)

Actually for myself these days, I don't seem to have so much to do in game, but I always like it to open up so I can potter about a bit and catch up with my friends in there :)
Posted 16 months ago by Violet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hey Violet. It doesn't need to be open for you to catch up with me! ;)
Posted 16 months ago by Dura Den Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ello Dura :) How u doin :)
Posted 16 months ago by Violet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • People do seem to be doing a better job of not opening 50 WWIO threads. I still think they could all be eliminated if they created a single, stickied thread in which people could consistently find the answer. I don't think people will realistically stop asking until the game goes live.
Posted 16 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @arizoo: The point of the thread you linked, if you read what I wrote, was to gauge why there was a sudden urgency in finding out test times, not to tell people to stop asking. But someone on that thread made a great point, the entire reason why testing is done is to...get ready for it...test the game. It is really important for everyone to be aware when there is a test so they can find out how the game works with more players.

I think the devs should make a thread saying when the game is estimated to open, we are all adults (for the most part) and understand things come up. This way there is only one post about the game opening

  • WWJD in a WWIO thread?

Um ... since JDawg is DEV I guess he'd respond.  Sorry, I just couldn't resist! :D
Posted 16 months ago by Marla Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree with Audaria, a sticky WWIO thread would be nice. I always look for those threads right about this time of the test lull. I find it helpful.

There are plenty of thread titles that I don't enjoy or am irritated by. I ignore them. I do not enter them. I am not forum moderator - Glitch employs people for these tasks.

I have been a forum moderator in the past. It is a fine line to walk, determining thread acceptability.

There is a difference between taste and acceptability. I don't like hot pink shirts, but it doesn't mean they shouldn't exist.
Posted 16 months ago by Neatly Sliced Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't care if it's mildly or very, irritating to the staff, I just want to know at least a day. I don't even care what time, just the day the test will open would be nice (because of reasons stated above).  :)
