Advertising for in-game stores - start your own!

Do you sell something awesome in-game? Want people to buy items from you and not other rip-off stores?

If so, come advertise your store and the benefits you bring to the market, here: bit.ly/glitchads

I sell 100% genuine Papers and Permits to those who want to travel on the subway but don't have the required documents, at an affordable price! See ad here: bit.ly/hJeS6q

(This idea came to me when I remembered that, in an online interview with Stoot, he mentioned players being able to advertise cults and in-game stores, so I thought this might be a simple way to start off (and there's always been rivalry about who to purchase items from in the Help Channel chat ;)).

  • stoot had said that the part in that article about player-run stores wasn't really accurate ( alpha.glitch.com/forum/gene... ), but he's talking about stores in-game for real-life currency, like those in Second Life for example.

I like the idea of this group, but I think it's current "linear" aspect of listing would promote spamming and endless bumping; a "Marketplace Listing" would be more ideal, as it would put everyone on a more level playing field in terms of getting competing listings shown to prospective buyers.

Depending on how Tiny Speck implements and tweaks the Auctions, this may be addressed during the Beta or Gold stages of development - if not, I'd suggest a third-party "clearing house" app to handle this. For example, a less-than 500 word Ad would be submitted via a form, along with the URL of the auction the advertised item is listed as within Glitch. The App would then show adverts for the shops listing the items, then filter the Auction results if the player wanted to buy a particular listing. The ad would only be displayed while the Auctioned item is still valid, or the "shop" still had at least one item listed on Auction.

Tiny Speck may handle this in-game at some point, and "sell" advert space in exchange for Currants or credits, like a rotating listing on the subway, and / or a dedicated street where a "marketplace" can live. Marketplace streets would be entered via a sign-post very much like the different living quarters streets are entered now.

Or, this Forum could be tweaked, and allow more control for the "owner" of the the thread - the forum software could be tweaked to allow threads to act like a "mall," where the thread owner could add or delete listings (posts) on behalf of others; the default layout for these type of "mall" threads could be that of thumbnails so, more than 30 listings would be displayed. The mall-thread's owner would also be allowed to customize the mall-thread with different backgrounds and such...

Again, I like the idea of this Group, but the linear aspect of forum posts will make it impractical once a few hundred players start listing their shops.

Sorry for being such a wet blanket - I guess some striatic has worn off on me... :P

  • @kaushka - A developer can use the current API to actually handle all aspects of that from looking in your inventory, allowing the user to select which item to put on auction, put on auction (with 500 word ad), and display these items in a mall type setting. As the API expands, it will probably be easier to do different things.
That all is defiantly possible for a 3rd party to create :D.
