Ownership

I'm curious to hear about 'ownership' of public property. If someone plants a herb, is it 'theirs'? What about a tree? Or a pig?

If the simple act of planting a herb makes you 'own' it, what happens if someone plants everywhere (not that unfeasible at 3 energy/action)? Do they now 'own' the entire garden, with no-one allowed to harvest or plant anything?

I'll agree that if someone is standing right next to a particular herb or tree or pig, and they ask "please don't mess with it", it's not too much to ask to honor their request, but having to ask before harvesting a herb that no one is standing next to brings us back to the scenario above of someone planting the entire garden.

Thoughts?

  • I planted a wood tree bean. I petted it. It grew up into a tiny plank. I fell asleep next to it. When I woke up, it was a bean tree.

    I was sad.

I seasoned another bean. I planted a wood tree bean. I petted it...

  • Well yes, I understand that some people have a desire to 'own' some public property, but that doesn't answer the question "should we care"? How about those who want to "own" all barnacles on a street? Should we care?

  • Are you talking about a specific experience you have had with another player?  Or are you just fretting about whether or not you should care in the abstract?

  • I think most of us "care" about the feelings of other people, but no one owns public property. You should feel free to harvest anything that isnt being actively watched over by another glitch.

  • I'm a barnacle party type of person. I ask others if they want to join me or will let me join them. I often explain that we can harvest together. Some people ignore. Some say no thanks. Most say, "Oh hey cool I didn't know that" or "Sure!"

That said - You can't "own" public property but you aren't required to share.

  • I have not encountered any rudeness in the Community Gardens and I have visited them off and for a while.  Today I visited all of the new Herb Gardens and found everyone to be very generous and helpful.  Personally, I prefer consideration  but some people just like to play differently and grab all they can.  That's OK for them.  Public areas are public so you need to know that you will encounter more than one kind of Glitch.  Some are generous and some are greedy but none of us hold ownership papers for Public land.  So, play as you like but don't expect everyone to play as you do or appreciate your style.  Knowing that can make this game much more fun.

  • Glitch just needs PVP now. You need to be able to throw down a duel when someone attempts to go after your herb/veggies/pig/block that you left out in public areas.

I am thinking death by massage or petting. combination of both is fine by me. I'll volunteer to test it out first.

  • I vote for death by Snoo Snoo.

I personally harvest whatever if no one's camping by the plot, but I do make a point of replanting whatever it is I've taken.

  • I don't use the community gardens much since I own a home w/garden plots but do want to visit the herb gardens to plant my 2 packets of herb seeds. If they have a short duration I will wait to harvest, but if they have a longer one I will leave and come back to try to pick them. If someone else picks my seeds I will just have to hope they plant ano seed in return.
