  • Pets are always a part of your family. Like losing one of your children. Let us know if there is anything else we can do. But I know my heart goes out to you.

  • There must be a lot of good moments and great memories stored up over twelve years time, little peep. That love will never fade away.

Why don't you share some of them with us here in this thread. Tell us some stories. I'd love to hear them.

  • (hugs) Good idea, sharing stories that are funny and make you laugh, happy thoughts!

My little dog poo'd on the floor last night and went and stood in the "naughty corner" all by herself. Lol. That made me laugh. Tell us some fun conure stories!

Ps. Your little one knew she was loved.

  • thanks sooo much.  her name was ap, after the civil war general a. p. hill.  they both always wore red vests.  she was a red breasted conure.  she loved us to pet her.  she would even lay upside down in our hands.  she said "good morning"  "how are you?" "i love you" and "do rae me".   her favorite was to call do rae me and i would answer and we would go back and forth.  that would console her when i couldn't hold her.  she loved my hair and liked to make a nest at the side of my neck in my hair and just stay there for hours.

  • I'm so sorry peeps, I know how much it hurts when a pet dies, and birds can be really more than just "pets". She sounds like a wonderful treasure, you really were a good companion to her, judging from her words and behavior. I've never gotten one of my birds to talk, except the one time I heard my Pumpkin (sun conure) whisper in my ear "baby Pumpkin"..she could only whisper! Do you have a pic of ap that you could post?

  • Little peep, my angel.. your beloved bird has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. You will be reunited in Heaven with this colourful and amazing creature... My mother had 22 exotic birds of all sizes. They are so remarkable. I had a little Quaker parrot and a double yellow head  Amazon parrot named Pedro years ago.. gray cheeks.. I took it into the supermarket.. ( the little birdie)..  your friend is now an angel on your shoulder and will come to you in your dreams. Do not be sad.. The bird is in a far better place and is very happy. Since I communicate with the pets who have crossed over I know these things...It says get another pet as soon as you can. No good an empty cage and the toys need to be played with.

  • i don't know how to put her picture anywhere that you can see it - i'm sorry.  she was brilliant green with turquoise in her wings and red breast with green through the middle.

  • *hugs* little peep.
Though I have no special affection for birds, I do have them for cats and dogs. I know how sad the silence can be. Not hearing the sounds of a presence in the room, no greetings.
Remember how she greeted you and loved seeing you. She does not have to miss you, she was loved.
Give it some time to heal, think of all the fun things, the little "accidents" that must have happened (peed/pood on your aunts head? Scared a cat?).
I wouldn't get a new pet as soon as possible, as no other bird can replace her or live up to her now. Get another bird because you want a bird, not because you miss Ap.
Hopefully she had an easy death and is happy flying forever in the sky.

Adjustment of the song  " This little bird" by John D. Loudermilk. The song is about a bird who soars the skies when it lives, but the way Jewel sings it I think it's more beautifull to think that that's what birds do in bird-heaven, just fly on the wind... So I made some tiny adjustments: (Here's a youtube video from someone singing it the Jewel way)

    There's a little bird
Somebody sent up from the earth
    To live along the wind
    Blowing on the wind
And she sleeps on the wind
    This little bird, somebody sent

    Light and fragile
    And feathered sky blue
    Thin and graceful
    The sun shining through
She flies so high up in the sky
Way out of reach of human eyes

    Light and fragile
    And feathered sky blue
    Thin and graceful
    The sun shining through
She flies so high up in the sky
Way out of reach of human eyes

    Light and fragile
    And feathered sky blue
    Thin and graceful
    The sun shining through

And the time that she left the ground to fly
Is when that little bird, little bird
Is when that little bird, little bird
Is when that little bird, little bird
Is when that little bird died

  • My heart goes out to you Little Peep. I hope you take comfort in the fact that your small heart companion had to know she was well-loved. Thank you for sharing some of the good memories, too--what a smart and adorable little thing she was.

  • aww.  hugs to you and the spirit of your conure, little peep.
I had a lovebird, zip, for 18 years.  I know how sweet those little balls of feathers can be! The little whispery rasp of the beak, that lets you know all is well in the little birdy world.  She's fortunate to have had you two to be her humans for all those years. :)

  • @ little peep, so sorry about your little parrot! You have my condolences. Truly I understand how you feel as I have an Amazon Parrot that can live up to 85 years of age! I have had her now close to 11 years. I can't help but feel my eyes well up for your loss of your little friend.

  • my wife @trinkers had a Sun Conure named Termite that lived with her parents who died last year. it was really sad.

it is especially sad when a bird dies. birds are REALLY smart and really social and very much bond to their humans.

the thing i've always found super interesting about birds as pets is that most pets you pet .. but birds are the only pets that pet YOU, sitting on your shoulder or on the top of your head preening your hair or your beard if you have one.

  • Oh, I'm so sorry to hear you lost her.  I'm sure she felt so comfortable and loved when she passed  with you right there holding her.

Maybe you could make a donation to a bird rescue in her memory?
