Skill tree reset

I didnt know there was a limit to skills and that once you learn a certain amount, everything else takes longer.

Because of that I started with the less time consuming skills and left the more advanced ones only for when I went to bed or the test period ended.

It would be really great to have a way to reset the skill tree. Maybe each skill should cost points according to how much time it takes to learn it so when you reset the tree you keep the points and allocate them however you please.

  • I didn't know about this either, but as long as it just means more time, i'm ok with it.

being able to just rearrange your skills with little or no penalty seems like a cheat to me. maybe the ability to unlearn in exchange for half, or less, or monetary compensation instead of being able to switch it to a diff skill.

  • Stoot said today that there will be an 'unlearn skill' skill, so there will be a time penalty to learn it.

  • Why would you want to unlearn a skill? I don't understand what you'd gain. Seems like you'd lose abilities needed to get things done later.

  • I think you would unlearn a lower level of a skill, i.e. unlearn Tinkering I and II because you know III.

  • But still what's the point in unlearning skills? Is there a limit to the number of skills one can learn? Seems like a waste of time to unlearn Tinkering I and II because one knows III...why not just leave it?

  • It's because the new skill learning algorithms make each skill you learn add time to every other skill, and with the higher level skills, the time added is quite a lot. So by "unlearning" lower level skills, you would reduce some of the time needed to learn the higher level skills.

  • Good point. Thanks. I forgot that bit.

  • 3 seconds are added for every 100, 108 seconds for every hour, ~43 minutes for every 24 hours.  It sounds small, but it adds up fast.

  • Yikes, that is why my AK6 skill in my queue takes more than a day?

  • I think it would be interesting if more skills are added to the table, and I assume they eventually will, there is a limit to the number you can "know" at any one time. Only so much information can fit in that little magic rock...

It would create more of a need to interact socially for items you may no longer be able to do for yourself or the ability to specialize...

Maybe after you specialize, new skills open up that you can't see on the table...surprise!

  • I agree with you, Mimi. I would love to see some degree of specialization in Glitch, and different ways to organize your skill tree. Efficiency Vs. Independence. It would shift the auctions dynamic quite a bit as well.

  • Oh, also, Stoot said that you cannot unlearn Tinkering I and II just because you know Tinkering III (it makes total sense) but you should use unlearn to wipe out skill branches that you don't use as much, or high level skills you don't really need.

  • @ Mimi, +1, great idea! Even though I would hate that because I like to know everything :), I think you are definitely right.

  • I think skill specialization would be a lot of fun!  It would require a variety of different people to perhaps contribute to future group activities.  Not to mention the formation of Giant groupies to go along with the skill specialization :)
