New item! Urth Blocks

Heya!

So, we have made some changes to blocks and bricks in the game. We are replacing AA Earth Blocks with Urth Blocks, as well as exchanging A, AAA and Bricks with Urth blocks.

What about these Urth Blocks?

Its stack size will be 10
A and AAA Earth Blocks will be replaced with 1 Urth Block
Each Brick will be replaced with 2 Urth Blocks
The Blockmaker will now be used only to make Urthblocks
Also, the Block Party quest will be updated to account for this change as well by requiring 3 Urth Blocks rather than one of each of the old kind.

That's it!

  • Can't please everyone etc, but AAA were more expensive than A blocks... why they worth the same?

  • My pal Fluxan is going to have a fit when he finally returns to the game. That Glitch had umpty-bazillion bags of sorted blocks and bricks.

First of all, he'll find out whether he got stuff evaporated and is the recipient of a dusty stick. Then he's gonna be outraged that all of his collection has been turned into one kind of block (presuming it survives the transition).

    It's not gonna be pretty.

  • Oh, well, I haven't looked at the new recipe yet, but it sounds like the blocks won't use fireflies... So are the 'flies only for crystals now then?

I hope those glowy little treasures get more uses in the future ;)

  • Wow, yea, had a bunch of each type of block...but I guess it pretty much averages out now that they are all only 150 currants.  Would stink for those that had mostly AAA, but it really helps those that had mostly A.  Could have sworn that I had 4 stacks of bricks to go with the 4 stacks of each of the three blocks, but they only converted 1:1 as well, not 2:1 as described.  Oh well, it is what it is...and since I'm not 100% sure of what I had, I'll just live with it.

ETA: Oh, forgot to say... +1 to meatblocks!

can I at least have a brick for remembrance?

  • I think this is my very first complaint about Glitch. I wish we had a list of our items/house inventory. I know that I lost stuff in the last fiasco. Everyone is describing the same exact thing that happened with the bags. I didn't file a bug report because I couldn't list what I lost and I hoped that TS would figure out a way to "roll back" our items. I didn't get my stuff back and I didn't get the stupid dusty stick.
    So, please file bug reports.

  • Hmm, I'm actually kinda bummed that there is only one block now...I sort of liked the variety.  I'm hoping the fuelmaker will eventually allow for more than just one fuel type (would love to have to make fuel for scooters or carts, etc)...and now I'm hoping we eventually get a variety of blocks/bricks/meatsolids back...also, I think in future construction it would be nice to have a variety of facades to build...block, brick, stone, meat...fingers crossed that the Urth blocks are at least used in the housing construction/expansions...

  • Hurrah! This means we've got three newly empty inventory slots to fill up!

  • I'd like to take this opportunity to complain about my favorite Pet Issue No One Else Cares About But Should...

...the way machines sling you around when you use them.  It's unnecessary, annoying, poor design, and antithetical to stoot's keyboard-centric philosophy.

I can alllllllmost accept the rationale that Glitches need to be moved away from resources when mucking about with them (despite numerous non-manhandling examples which everyone has no problem whatsoever coping with), but being tossed around my own home by my own tech is pointless and humiliating.

Who's with me?  Who will help stand against our mechanical oppressors?

Fight the power! Stand your ground! Streamline the interface! Metaphorically pee on bad design!

  • Ahh...a chip off the old block. Reading through this thread was mind bending. Bags, blocks, slots, stacks! Gone, here, moved, there! Phew!

  • The game does not need to be simplified.  That is not it's problem.  It's problem is that there isn't enough content over time - 'former' players have consumed everything there is and moved on.  I get the feeling that stoot is trying to remove complexity in order to increase the retention rate of new players.  That may be a problem but it's a small one compared to level 40 players who won't grind for badges and go do some other game.

  • WalruZ, there's a lot of complexity coming up in the next month and a half, according to the recent progress report.  I'm pretty sure the change to the blocks is in service of the furniture crafting or housing upgrade systems -- I don't know why they decided to go to one type of block, but we can't really evaluate this change until we see what we're doing with them.

(I did like having a use for partial firefly jars, since catching full jars can be tricky.)

  • My guess is that the Urth blocks will be used to make our yards bigger. When actually implementing their plans on housing upgrades they probably realized this was the only type of block they needed, and there was no place for the other blocks and bricks. I seriously doubt they did it to dumb the game down for us.

  • When I pick up and drop them they turn to Urth Blocks as I mouse over them, but when I up arrow over a pile they still say AA Earth Blocks.

  • @shepherdmoon: ur blocks used for expanding our land... Oooo, I can see that being how they are used. Must go and make some soon. :)

  • Now I kind of hope they get rid of fuel cells at the vendors so that I have some use for the 1000's of blocks of peat I have lying around.

  • Love it. So nice and simple. This makes my organizing so. Much. Better!

  • Actually one type of block makes a lot of sense and falls in line with the new houses. I will bet at some point you use the basic block to build something and then you purchase upgrades to make it look a certain color or maybe texture.

  • Will there be BADGES for making x amount of Urthblocks?

    *drools* mmm...BADGES...

  • nobody is upset that they didn't get to keep their old blocks as souveniers?

  • After what happened with the dusty stick, more chaos and confusion would've reeked.
Posted 9 months ago by Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I just wish they'd gone for more of the brick color, or the deeper brown. The new Urth blocks just look a little drab.
Posted 9 months ago by kastlin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I also would like to know what to do with the peat I've been hoarding.  I had been hoarding it to use it for block making but do not see it listed as an ingredient for an Urth block.
    Thanks!

  • ARGH all those wasted fireflies. And spice.  And peat!!! :: shakes fist at the Ur sky angrily ::

    :`(

    /sigh
    :s

I'm sure something cool will come of this.  I just can't stand waiting to find out what it is.

One good thing though.. it never made sense to call them EARTH blocks.. so I'm glad that got changed. =/

Edit - OK now I've seen them in-world.. um.. They look just like the old ones (???).. ~O_o~

  • I'm really surprised no-one else really seems to care that AAA and A blocks were traded for the same value...

    A block = 5 earth, 8 allspice (4 fuel)
    AAA block = 8 Tiny Bubbles, 3 loam, 4 earth (6 fuel)

I think. Damn my memory sucks.

How come they're both worth 1 Urth? Bit unfair for those who made a lot more AAA than A...

  • Fireflies oh Fireflies what do I do with my half full jars now???  Wait I guess for the next new wonderful thing....I love glitch .... I will just watch my fireflies all nite long.

  • Maybe people will finally get grumpy with being tossed around by their own hardware once they have to make oodles of blocks, fighting the interface all the way.

  • I guess if something like all Tasty Pasta and Banana No-names suddenly all turned into Hearty Omelet, we'd hear more about it.

    Ah well.
