SDB Market Price

I am looking forward to building my new tower of stuffs! I was thinking it would be cool and much easier for the player (I don't know how hard it would be for the devs) if it would be possible to link Small Display Boxes (SDBs) to market prices much like the Auction House does when you create an auction. Would be cool to have two separate markets. Towers and Auction Houses, the Auction House being totally separate from SDBs but when you set you price for an SDB it would be cool to see an interface like this: Create Auction - Interface that is linked with player owned sdb prices maybe minus the posting fee since it is in your own tower and not the Auction House? Whatcha think?

*Edit 7/19: instead of two seperate markets what if the Auction House were to become the list market for Tower SDBs? I can imagine as towers start growing, people might have less and less use for the Auction House. It might be cool to keep both though as if something does not sell from your tower, you can always try the Auction House where there is a listing fee. :)

  • As a buyer, I absolutely love this idea!

    As a seller, I like it provisionally.  Ideally, I'd really like to be able to opt in, possibly per SDB.  Some of my prices are cut rate, some of them are fair to me, and a couple of them are jacked for scarcity on my street.  I don't really want to advertise those last ones so much.

    But then, if it's displayed like the auctions, ridiculously priced things would naturally fall off the first screen, so it wouldn't really be a problem.

    AND, can anyone say "Free Market Research"?

    So, yeah, uh.. ++1!

  • I think some way of knowing what the going prices are is a good idea. I've been wondering how I'll be able to set prices for the goods in my tower. I check the AH prices, but when there isn't a current auction for the product I'm checking, then I have no real idea. And, if the time ever comes when we have no more auction house, . . . ? Will I have to run around from tower to tower to check on whether my prices are competitive? The trade chat channel isn't really very helpful, either, for this. It all depends on who's on it at any given time.

  • I currently use the Glitch Market Market place ( http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/24595/) to figure out what everyone is charging. You can view the auctions prices as well as see the prices in peoples towers. However as the later has to be manually entered you don't get everyone, but it should still help.

    Linking the price to the "market price" could be tricky, especially the issue as to what determines the market price and will your things end up being sold at a loss if a bunch of people just happen to feel generous and give a bunch of items away or use that item as a loss leader. Pricing can get very complicated.

  • I took a look at that, and decided against it.  I haven't got the time to keep everything updated.

    And, ----1 to having your pricing linked to any "average" or "market" price.  I'm not interested in logging back in after a couple days and discovering I've lost half the currants because Glitch automatically changed my prices.

  • "Glitch" would not be "automatically" changing any of your prices. You would be the only one changing your prices like the Auction House. The create sale interface already exists. You already do it when you create auctions. You can either post by total price or item price and can see on the right what the lowest market value is and then price your items accordingly. I am just saying there should be a "Tower Market" for SDBs in this way you don't hve to research the Auction House or ask in global, or use spread sheets to track market prices when selling items from SDBs. Simply put, When you set or change your SDB price, you just get the same interface you get now when creating an auction. Like  Carl Projectorinski  said  "Free Market Research"!

  • Showing recent auction and SDB sale prices for the item when setting an SDB price makes sense!

  • The API now allows you to poll tower SDB prices. Check out glitchremote.com (I'm sure the other 3rd party economy sites will do this soon also

  • Awesome and Thank you! My tower is almost ready and I've been testing the API calls. I actually do know a little bit about web app development and have downloaded the demo Mash so I can start learning more about building my own Glitch app! I am very excited to see this idea become available!
