Local trade offers

For a limited time, you can initiate a local trade offer (for buying or selling) from the local chat menu. EDIT, later: The experiment is now over, so if you are reading these words, you won't be able to use the trade offer feature any more (unless you are reading this way in the future when we turn it back on).

Anyone in the same location will see what you want to buy or sell and for how much with a little talk bubble over your head, similar to how race offers work now. Clicking it will open the trading UI with the offer options pre-set so you can negotiate from there.

We're testing this for a few hours only right now to get some early feedback (and maybe even find some bugs). When we release this properly, the feature will probably be restricted to specific marketplace locations so trade offers don't get too spammy in the rest of the world.

  • Nice! Allowing multiple people to offer competing bids would be cool, too. I'd be a roving auction house :)

  • Excellent! Would be great to have a pre-determined cubimal area, emblem / icon area, etc. Cool!

  • YAY! Just tested it, will submit a bug report soon. Messed up my chat window a little, but other than that it's awesome and super exciting.

  • @Delyth A cubimal/emblem/icon trading area would be awesome!
Posted 12 months ago by anacronismo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Okay I have to say this is awesome... works a lot faster than auctioning stuff.

And, I think that specific marketplace streets would be nice. I honestly think this is better than auctions.

  • one bug so far - when you click it, the local chat window appears to go enlarged over any window open above it making it hard to see what's happening in the top window.
Posted 12 months ago by Vialdana Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think its a good supplement to auctions but not better. Its nice to have auctions where you don't have to be standing around or online to sell something and you don't have to carry it around.

This is pretty neat though and I think it'll make a fun addition.

  • Yes! This is a super cool feature that has me really excited. But, it is definitely one that I could see getting super annoying without some limits.

The one thing that I'd like to see would be some sort of "or best offer" haggling. Right now, it's a first come first served setup. That's ok. But it would be nifty if a sale could be open to some bidding :)

  • COOL.

  • It's a good feature, and I'm seeing some great deals, but people were trading right in front of the tool vendor, so much that I couldn't even find him. Definitely restricting trading to just a few streets is a good idea...but maybe not on a tool vendor street?

  • I would love to be able to announce "I will trade an emblem of Tii for an emblem of Lem" or other items, rather than just being willing to sell/trade for currants.
Posted 12 months ago by imaginarygrace Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I tried it and so far think it's a good edition. One thing I noticed, it reacts a little slowly when 'End Trade' is selected.

    +1 to competing bid sessions.

  • Haven't tested it yet but it'd be great if you could just hang around and leave your 'advertisement' bubble over your head, but please don't let us consume energy while doing so (it'd be bad for business if we suddenly died on the job ROFL)

  • What's absolutely hilarious, but also bad bad bad, is that bags are sold by their name and not "A bigger brown bag called [whatever]" as the cubimals are. This creates a lot of fun ("Lx wants to buy a soul") but also a bit of confusion/griefing potential.

Also, while I was a big fan of the market street idea... it gets really noisy & hard to see offers. Here's a pic of Cebarkul right now. (and this one shows a few renamed bags). Perhaps if they stacked differently? or if you clicked on someone or their offer it made that offer pop to the front?
Posted 12 months ago by Vera Strange Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The above also applies to notes, btw.

  • Seriously this is CRAZY right now.  Crazy good!  Cebarkul has become the unofficial marketplace and dozens of glitchens have flocked there hawking their wares.

Lx has sold his soul about four times, axton is selling other people's mothers for 1 currant, stoot dropped in and sold 500 allspice in a heartbeat.  And I sold practically my whole cubimal inventory in 5 minutes :D

A pic of the madness here.
Posted 12 months ago by spunsugar Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Looks fun, but as you can see Cebarkul is turning into Times Square with all those advertising billboards over everyone's head. Of course, the idea is to make it region/street specific, but if every cubimal buyer is going to cubimal street with a sign over his/her head, nobody will (be able to) read it.

The feature looks fun and works just fine, but the way it is now it'll pollute the screen with ads. Maybe some kind of local auction window (vendor style) could solve this?
Posted 12 months ago by Niks Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh my--it is crazy in Cebarkul right now. This idea is totally awesome! I have the following suggestions:

    1) Make sell and buy offers a different color so it's more obvious which is which.
    2) Make the bubbles clickable so they can be brought to the front--many are invisible behind a bunch of others.

  • Brilliant idea. :)  Could be spectacular in a more organized environment, or with a few less people so it wasn't so flippin' laggy.

  • I like it :) Good fun and seems to be a good way of getting things to people that want them. Worked pretty well, as far as I could tell.

  • nice idea. would be better to allow to specify price both in bulk or for a piece and show both on bids.

  • Bring back Market St! I remember it being released just at the time I joined Glitch, and it was super awesome and new, built with a "If you build it, they will come" approach, but they didn't come, so it didn't make it in to New Groddle. I was going to write a forum post about it but never got round to it... :/

Will these new trading locations be akin to the old Market Place? Got some images of it from the beta trailer video... http://imgur.com/a/WhldI

  • i like it. i mentioned in chat in cebarkul, there should be different colors to differentiate between buyers and sellers because it's hard to tell which is which.

  • I lost a Cosma Emblem when I cancelled my offer. Someone wanted to do an Emblem for Emblem trade. I cancelled my offer a few seconds before it expired, and *poof* ... GONE.

I submitted a bug report and Live help is looking into it too.

  • The ability to click "reoffer as same" on a trade that has been rejected without having to refill the form would be super: similarly, having a trade that lasted if you crossed to another street (with load time taken off, I think, because people crossing over and over to make their trades last forever would get SUPER ANNOYING really quickly) would also be nice if the ability is going to last across all regions.

Also, as much as I like haggling on the tool street, a dedicated market area/differentiation for things in chat would be great.

  • I like ponds idea above.
On a separate note- I dont think my rig is too out-dated , nor my internet (on my desktop anyway ) - and I crashed hard on Cebarkul -
with back to back forced refreshes . I finally had to "hope" i could get loaded in long enough to TP away . As a few times- I was frozen by the lag and could not literally walk to a street sign to be able to just walk off the street.
    Just my experience. ;)

  • Agreed that someone offering on an item and then cancelling requires re-offering from scratch is annoying.
Posted 12 months ago by Yarrow Subscriber! | Permalink
  • also , i agree with others please maybe put it one street away from tool vendor - so those that truly choose to sell to vendor instead of selling to others- have the free choice, without the lag - to do so . ;)
Posted 12 months ago by serenitycat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Also, number input is glitched - I couldn't change the currants offer in trade.

  • +1 to Hburger idea, those pics are great!

I just open the game and Cebarkul looks like ragnarok, perfect world and other level up games (I can't even read some items/prices), a Market St sounds like an awesome solution for that :D

  • I think it'd be really wonderful if there were a "Market Building," similar to the public machine buildings, in which there were multiple streets for different items: cubimals, emblems, icons, etc.

EDIT: Oh, yes, like Hburger's idea!
Posted 12 months ago by Eleni Ivanova Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes. Let's encourage hundreds of glitches to accumulate in one place.
Then let's throw in the jumpers, the rainbow portioners, and others greedy on resources.
Add people with trades like 1 cherry for 2c (i.e. timewasters). . .

A recipe for Flash Crash Extrodinaire

Until the game can cope with crowds, this feature is going to cause more frustration than benefit.

  • omigod I hate this.  D:>

Lag is already bad for me... when I ported into Cebarkul to sell off some sparkly and gems so I could buy more piggies, I was bogged down with lag so bad I literally could not even move.  I had to just stand there until my teleport cooldown was over and I could port back home, at which point Flash crashed for me.  -_-

I don't think it would be quite as bad if there hadn't been A) so many people and/or B) talk bubbles over everyone's head.  But as it was, there were and there was and it sucked.  >_<

Also I hate hate hate that you can't see the background when more than one person is offering a trade.  What's the point of having beautiful scenery if you can't see it because everyone's trading??

  • Very fun, and a neat addition, and I might finally be able to kickstart a market for wavy gravy, being able to post ask prices in the auction will generate a more efficient and less spammy and less laggy market.

Cebarkul is a pretty good spot to have it -- the street has little other utility other than trade (aka tool vendor)
Posted 12 months ago by Sturminator MoOre Subscriber! | Permalink
  • How about a bulletin board that displays all the current offers, so you can scan the list and click on the offer?

If the player moved off the street or went afk, their offer would no longer display on the marquee list.
Posted 12 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Almost no lag here (Chrome on Ubuntu).

But it's really crazy. You have to fiercely look at new offers to grab something interesting before somebody else does. My eyes hurt after a few minutes.

Don't know how to make it a bit more relaxed, though.

  • Perfect place for the gathering - NOT.

I really hate this.  We have a marketplace already.   And the guy offering a NOTE for 75,000 currants? Blocked - and after I block him I expect to NOT see his offer.  If I'd accidentally clicked that and blew a chunk of change...well, color me one mad elf.  I guess I should be glad I'm poor.

I appreciate the time you guys have put into this but I don't dig it even a little bit.

  • so if you're selling an emblem of pot and then you decide to buy something, the emblem appears in your trade offer by default! easy way to accidentally give away an emblem :)

  • The Buying and Selling should look different, maybe in color or bold the words "buy" and "sell". When the Local Chat is moving quickly, it's hard to tell if a good deal is actually someone wanting to buy, not to sell.
