Notice re: 4/5 Auctions! It's Rude!

First off I know it's buyer beware, and I know I am fully responsible for being in too much of a hurry to notice the Extremely Hallowed Sacred Power was NOT A FULL 5/5 -- but it's a nasty thing some sellers do as it is mho INTENTIONALLY trying to trick people.

So you know who you are - the Glitchen with a buch of $1850c EHSP auctions - ya got me!

Never again, never again!

  • Why are there all these auctions for empty (200c) firefly jars in the 400c range?    Who buys these things?

  • "So do people who use auction snipers."
Actually, the auction sniper has a setting to ignore items that don't have the full number of uses.

"Why are there all these auctions for empty (200c) firefly jars in the 400c range? Who buys these things?"
People who don't want to walk to a vendor and risk losing the huge swarm they just spotted while they had full jars.  Also people who don't know which vendor sells them.

  • @Feylin "Should I call you lazy and stupid since you didn't notice your stacks of meat were a full 80?""Yes.  That was my point.  How was that not clear?"

ok then John Galt, i think my point wasn't clear. There's no need to attack people by calling them lazy and stupid. you were out of line, i was attempting to point it out by getting you to see how it felt if you were on the other end...but apparently that was a big fail.

anyways, it's not just you. there's a lot of people being random jerks on the forum and it makes me sad.

  • I'd say buying something for full price that's not full use is 50/50 your fault, seller's fault. The information is there to be read and you didn't read it but the person shouldn't put a non-full use item up for full price. Also consider though that if you want sympathy for the fact that you didn't fully read the item description before you made the purchase the seller may deserve sympathy for the fact that they put an item up at the wrong price accidentally.

Before you go crucifying someone or blocking them maybe you should contact them and see if you can get a full or partial refund. It never hurts to ask for something, politely, and if it was a mistake then the glitch is probably willing to make a deal. When you just start throwing accusations around feelings gets hurt and issues escalate and everyone ends up walking away mad.

  • @Feylin, don't be sad - I don't think John Galt means any harm.  The user id gives us a clue.  If you have read Atlas Shrugged, or have an understanding of Ayn Rand's philosophy then the point of view expressed by the Glictchen called 'John Galt' makes perfect sense.

Unfortunately, Atlas Shrugged is not for the TL;DR among us, if I can put it in less than a twitter sound bite it would be 'Everyone for themselves'.

  • Ah, he's roll playing?  I have read Atlas Shrugged, but didn't love it enough to catch character names from it out of context.

Regardless, I don't care if people are roll playing or not. It's coming off hurtful and unkind, particularly when the rest of us haven't caught on to the clever roll playing (or whatever). This kind of thoughtlessness DOES  cause harm, to  the community and to the individual it's directed at.

There are humans behind all these screen names, and I'm seeing lots of people forgetting this and just plain being unkind and unthinking.  It's not just in this thread or in the forums, it's happening in game.

So, the fact that someone happens to be roll playing doesn't stop me from being sad about it.

  • Actually Feylin, I didn't mean to imply he was role playing (he may be, IDK).  What I do know is that people who subscribe to Rand's philosophy take it very seriously indeed (they name their children after her or characters in the book, for example).  I know I was quite taken with that type of outlook back in the 80's & 90's and it served me quite well given the industries I worked in.  Post Y2K - I don't think it is so relevant.

Interestingly, there is a repeated question throughout Atlas Shrugged: "Who is John Galt?".  Of course, he is the hero of the book and the prime example of Rand's 'hero' archetype. Do you wonder if those who have modeled themselves on one of the Randian 'heroes' have asked themselves the question lately: 'Who is John Galt?' ; not as it was envisaged by Ayn Rand back in the 1950's but how it might apply in today's world.

  • I once went to an Ayn Rand fan gathering.  It was invite only and I am pretty certain I was being checked out.  But I said the 'L' word* in casual conversation and was never invited back.  Objectivists are dead serious about their philosophy.

  • Let me give a classic example of why I don't think Objectivisim works.  The most well known Objectivist that I can think of is Alan Greenspan.  QED

The unfortunate thing as far as I can tell is that Ayn Rand didn't really finish her philosophy.  She was devastated at the harsh reception Atlas Shrugged received on it's release.  I believe she retreated to her inner circle of followers and apparently was bitter and cynical for the rest of her life.  I think if she had engaged with the world more in general she may have allowed Objectivism to evolve into something a little less bloody minded.

  • The people buying 60C tickets in-game then trying to resell them for 150-200 and up are lame too.  There is one guy named [removed player's name] who made his account apparently just to troll ticket auctions and [removed player's name] appears to be the ticket scammer of the day for today.
Posted 13 months ago by Glitchard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Glitchard,  it is against the rules on Glitch to call out players in the forums. You'll need to remove those players' names from your post, or staff will get involved and edit it themselves.
Posted 13 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hi guys. WindBorn is correct and while I completely understand your frustration, please do not specifically call out other players using their names. If you see something that is the behavior of a troll, please send us an abuse report with the information and we will investigate it.

We want to make sure Glitch continues to build a wonderful and healthy community, and this is a part of that. We will do our best to combat players that work against this goal.

    Thanks!

  • Reselling in the auctions to people too lazy to find a dispenser is a totally valid tactic.

And I know I've accidentally sold a 4/5 FHSP at full price, and later bought a 1/5 at full price. It's all a part of the game, just look right there at the title if you are worried about it...it shouldn't be up to the devs to intervene with everything. Glitch is a very player-oriented and player-run game, after all :)

  • Um... not to cause trouble, and I know this was all ages ago now, but there's no such thing as "full" or "half" price - it's an auction not a shop, anyone's perfectly entitled to sell anything for whatever price they like.

  • I can't exactly speak for the rest of you but I have never once made any sort of mistake like that. I mean for example if your buying food or something you look at the quantity right? I mean it's really your own fault if you don't read how many uses it has. Don't get me wrong though it's still a shitty thing for the seller to do but frankly they are free to do that if they wish.

It's similar to another thread where people accidentally fed their pig more than they intended. Just take it slow, it only takes about a second to click the right option. Don't rush through things and rapidly press the enter key.

  • I've did the same thing ... quite a few times... but I just chalk it up to not paying attention.  My fault, not theirs.  I've sold things that weren't full but only because I no longer wanted it, not to trick someone.  Move on, buy another, no need to post about it... it happens.
