Tree Planting Questions

I don't mean to complain.  I just have a question or two regarding the tree planting Quests.  During this last test I completed the quest to plant 5 trees and raise them until they were full grown.  I completed this but, here is my question:

I had to poison my 3 trees.  I hate that but did it.  I poisoned two to start with and left.  When I came back, one tree was dead and I cleared it and planted a new one.  The second tree, however had died, been cleared and replanted.  As I approached it, it said something like this, "I don't know who planted me."  So, who did plant it?  I don't mind but would like to know.  Because of this I had to poison 6 trees instead of 5.  I am a tiny bit ticked about that.

Another question:  One of the new trees I planted was a Wood tree.  It never matured despite the liberal use of fertilizer (the full thing, not the lite).  After hours of tending the new trees , the Wood tree never progressed and never was counted toward the 5 so I have to poison a 7th tree in order to fulfill the quest.  Why don't the Wood trees grow up?  It got as high as two tiers and had 3 branches (planks) but never went further.

I finished the quest, got the badge and was glad to be done with that.  Then I completed another skill (Gardening IV, I think) and was given a new quest to plant and raise 3 trees.  Huh?  I already had to kill and clear 7 trees and plant new ones and now I have to do it 3 more times, why?  OK, it seems to me that the difference may be that the new quest specified that I season the beans.  I already did that the first time although I don't think that was required then.

Do you know how hard this work is when you have 4, pigs, 3 chickens and 3 butterflies under foot/over head?  Plus the horrible experience of killing trees who never did me any harm and see me as their friend?  "Oh give me a home where the pigs do not roam and the trees are happy all day!"  Thanks!

  • This is a problem which many of us have noted for months.  You have to pet seven seedlings, which don't really exist for more than a few minutes, and plant five trees, and then another three trees, and so on.  New patches are scarce, empty patches are scarce, and there are penalties for poisoning existing trees.  I think all of these quests need to be altered.

Also, there are no quests at all for Blockmaking, Engineering, Fuelmaking, or Master Chef 2.  There may be more skills without quests as well.

  • Thanks Glum.  I also thought it was odd that I did not get  block making, etc. quests but I thought they might be delayed somehow.  I had a lot of lag in these past two tests and a couple of my new quests were delayed a bit.  I also had several Flash crashes.

  • As to wood trees: They were added recently and behave very different from the other trees. Most trees have 10 levels of growth. Wood trees only have 6 (I believe... I may be wrong). Last time I checked Fertidust also
So you are absolutely correct: some quests need to be looked now that there have been changes. (At the very least the wording to warn you that wood tress do not count.)
(Note: I'm not adverse to quests that (1) take some problem solving and (2) take a long time. Planting raising 5 tress is less frustrating if you don't try to do more that one tree at a time or find a far flung side street. Also loading up on Fertidust first means you can do it in hardly anytime at all.)

  • Hi again ,Brib :) Tree murdering aside ...  there is still work being done on the quests and skill trees. Patience my dear, beta member :) Have you updated to the newest version of flash and cleared your cache ? That will most likely help. P.S. Don't clear your cache unless you have figured out what your password is, as a password retrieval system is not in place yet. What browser are you using, I might be able to help you with that.

  • Thanks Divine!  I recently upgraded to FF4.  I have not cleared my cache but have cleared Cookies for a few sites such as BFG which gets slower and slower and slower until I clear them.  Paranoia about PW loss has kept me from clearing everything.  I have a ridiculous number of PWs and hate having to look them all up after a cache clearing.  I actually have two boxes of index cards with URLs, PWs, User names, etc.  I am also paranoid about purchasing PW software.  What happens if it fails and I lose all those PWs?  Yikes!

@ Lord Bacon-o - Thanks!  I tried to do 3 at a time in my own garden but I had that mystery planting that slowed me a bit.  Hard to find a usable patch elsewhere.  Projects still require earth and loam or blocks/bricks which may need earth and loam.

  • In Firefox, Tools -> Options -> Privacy (tab at the top) -> Settings (box on the lower right) will give you choices about what to clear when the browser closes.  You can have it clear cache but keep saved passwords, for example.

  • Thanks Glum! Yes, I do that but have not done it since I got here.  Guess I worry too much but if I lost Glitch I would have a terrible itch.  Just logged in from a new computer.  Had a scary moment or two but was able to get logged in.

  • If you haven't changed it, then your "You're invited!" email should have your Glitch password.  (Well, mine does.  Maybe I shouldn't make assumptions.)

Can't help with the billions of others, though ;)

  • Wanted to chime in and say I also didn't like poisoning trees to finish the quests, and I looked around for empty patches for quite a while without finding any except near an open project, and of course didn't want to plant there and enrage the street project folks.
