Seasons and Day/Night

(More people probably proposed this idea, but I'm on my phone so can't search the forum.)

Wouldn't it be fun if Glitch jad seasons or day-/nighttime? Imagine:

- Snowy Zille-o-ween
- Introduction of Fireworks (only to be used at night)
- Night-time-only quests (Ghost related)
- Making Snow-puppets (you'll need a carrot for this!)
- Collect dried leaves in autumn

It would of course be un-Glitchy if these seasons would be equally spread. I imagine them to be more event-connected. So only snowy on Zille-o-ween like events and maybe nighttime could be like an eclipse (rare!)

What do you think?

  • I love this idea. I always wondered why, despite there being an in-game time system, there is not an actual visual day-night cycle with corresponding world activities. It'd be pretty nifty! Like you said, nighttime quests, community activities, night-only items, all kinds of stuff. It would bring a whole other layer to the gameplay, I believe. Seasonal events and items, same thing.

I am showing my deep, abiding love for Animal Crossing in this post, aren't I? Hee.

  • You couldn't do this on a 24 hour schedule because the game is world-wide.  BUT, you _could_ do it on a 4-hour game-day schedule.   It would actually be a nice way to be made aware that the game day is starting/ending.   The problem I see is that it would be a lot of work to add that into the game graphics and since it only has cosmetic benefit, it's a way-back-burner sort of thing.

  • Yes, I was imagining it as a day-night cycle based on the in-game time, not IRL time, like Animal Crossing! It could be a lot of work, like you said though. I don't know the technical part of what's involved, but the artwork would have to be dynamic (changing light, etc.). Probably not a big priority. Would be interesting to know if TS ever considered a day-night cycle in their creative process, though.

  • +1 for visual day-night cycle, but it must not affect gameplay at all.

Firework at night, drawing ghost family, collecting red maple leaves, making snowman, and special herb on rainy days... all these sound more Mabinogi than Glitch to me.

I would love to see something more ridiculous. Maybe a weather forecast from musicblock to "decide" the weather?
Need more glitchy minds to figure out more cool ideas...

  • +1 on day/nite. An opacity mask on the sky layer would do the trick if tied to the day timer.

To make it simpler and to avoid any possible player frustration, the darkest night could be set for a "dusk" feel... (even cooler if an early night sky with a  few stars, just for the FOCUS MOOD  feel of it, but I'm starting to get ahead of myself.). Just leave the street layers well enough alone.

For day/nite, the sky should do the job itself no?

As to snow, that would be cool during winter Zilloween for sure. Not such a fan of rain, although it might be interesting in Shimla Mirch

  • Considering the amount of graphics changing it would require and that most of the swamps are already dark enough to begin with not sure how on screen would be viable.
Maybe just add a Sun/Moon icon up next to the clock that slowly rotates ?
In order to make it more equal for everyone there would also need to be 8 seasons a real life year or more.

  • Day/Night would be super fun. Certain animals might only appear at night?

  • +1 for day/night cycle. Visual only change is fine.

  • It would be even cooler if Ur, being a world not like ours and in the imagination of the Giants, had time and seasons and weather that are uniquely its own.  Such as:

The time of the day called Purple, because that's the color all of the pigs and chickens become.
Storms where loam "rains" up, so you can catch it and build upside-down gardens in the tree branches.
The season of Bounce where the ground gets very soft, and you jump like you're on Spinach all the time.

I know these kinds of things would be pretty intense for the Devs to add, but would be much too boring to just have plain old day, night, rain, and changing leaves.
