A Stage (for the Glitch-y Horror Picture Show?)

So the topic is two-fold...

1) We have a massive number of highly creative people here, and I think the Glitch world is missing a stage for them to strut their stuff. This idea came about while thinking about how to pull off

2) The Glitch-y Horror Picture Show!
This idea was actually a group effort in Global Chat, roughly dinner time in the US, and started with someone mentioning drag... then a few minutes later someone else asking if there were any musicals with a Frank in them.

My concept of a performance space in Glitch.... room design wise it would be someplace where either
a) people specifically have to enter to attend, so avoid accidentally wandering through someone delivering a beautiful story about the Giants.... or
b) Settled as 'platforms' (delivery and viewing) above a street so people walking through can pause for a while and move on, or take a seat!

Mechanically, I've been thinking about the 'performers' having their text appear in Local Chat (or even the room) similar to the GOD capabilities, as in - set in a different color bubble in local chat or the room, but limited to the performance area. Or I'd like to see them have a 'quiet' button which suppresses local chat for something like 2 minutes when they begin speaking. I can picture the whole scene... you get the message 'the show is about to begin. When it does, you will be unable to speak in local chat for at least 2 minutes'... the lights go dim, and Glitch-y goodness ensues. So how to designate the controls? Perhaps it's something that can be booked... dunno if it costs currants, credits, or what. Maybe you buy a 5 minute block of time, or 15... I can totally see this being used in all sorts of cool ways - from fashion shows to homeowner association meetings to party planning committees, to poetry readings, to parties.... endless really.

As for the look / feel of it... I am in love with one of the most beautiful venues on the planet - Red Rocks Amphitheater, so of course I can see fleshing out the desert type spaces to include a stunning variation. Of course I can also see something more like floating bits of dirt circa Marrakesh Meadow...

Anyhow, the second part is more interesting. I got to looking at the wardrobe, and was trying to come up with what we're missing to host our very own Glitch-y Horror Picture Show... we can make use of masks and whatnot instead of makeup, and there's a serious lack of fishnets - but I think we can do it... (your turn to add ideas)

  • Wow, Trav, I love this idea! (performance theater) And your link to the amphitheater is incredible. This could be an aspect of the game that a person could spend an enormous amount of time with and it could really contribute in a positive way to building community. I'm going to spend some time thinking about this one. Can't wait to see the ideas flood in.

  • We have the corsets for the Horror Show, and we should really have a venue like that beautiful one in the link.

The Shakespeare Group would surely be keen on this idea too?

I would think a dead-end street would be good, with the amphitheatre at the end?

Some way to screen performers in the wings would be excellent, and a way to have music.

  • I absolutely love this idea. I would attend most every show. Would love to see Faereluth's story Histories of Ur.

  • First of all fuck yes this idea is awesome. I'm a huge fan of RHPS. Keep in mind though that the game is 2d so having people sit 'in front' of the stage would actually block it. The platform idea sounds good or it could be more of a TV type thing, where the actors get a whole street to perform on and the audience isn't physically on the street, just viewing it from elsewhere. Having the audience physically in the same street as the actors could get messy, unless the actors and the audience were separated via height, as would be the case with the platforms.

Also I demand to be Frank N Furter, I dressed as him when I went to say a play of RHPS last year.
