Edit: This is a pick-your-own program! Check the list in the first reply to this thread for a list of available newbies and mentors. MENTORS AND NEWBIES WILL NOT BE ASSIGNED TO EACH OTHER. You have to choose them yourself. :) Arii's a busy lady.
Original post: So I had this idea.
Greeters are wonderful people. I love the idea of Greeters. I think they should absolutely keep doing exactly what they're doing, because they're saints. It's not a perfect system; some people slip through the cracks and don't get Greeted (myself included). That's alright.
But what about afterwards? Greeters are great in the short-term, but they can't really convey the kinds of culture and etiquette of the group dynamic that we expect. So I propose (for those newbies and potential mentors who are interested!) an Adopt-A-Newbie program. I, personally, have been feeling alienated from all the new players, mostly because I don't know any. All my friends in Glitch are old hands at this, and most of them were beta-testing long before I was. If I knew some newbies and I had a couple to look after who I could develop a relationship with outside "Where do I get salt?", I believe I'd feel a lot more warm-fuzzy fondness towards the newbie population as a whole. I'd get a lot more reward for my effort, because I'd be able to see them grow and learn and become self-reliant, rather than just linking them to wherecanigetpapers.com and having done with it.
What do you guys think? :D Anyone else who will be a mentor with me?
And here's how we'll manage this. If you want to have a mentor, please post here saying so. I'll keep a list in the next post of everyone who wants one, and mentors can go through and pick the ones they think are cutest (posting here which ones, of course, so I can keep track). Or, y'know, whatever criteria they choose. I'll remove names as people are adopted. Any improvements you can think of?
