Nomads

We've touched on vagrancy before but how about players owning a tent as well as a house? This would allow them to set up a camp far away from home and store a few items there. It would have to be secure of course, a lockable zip perhaps. This would be a useful while on an extended quest or exploring a new region where returning home (even via teleport) to drop a few items off can be a chore.

  • Rather than have tents appearing everywhere on streets, there could be a signpost every few streets pointing to a campsite. This could lead directly to a pitch where the player can raise their tent.

  • Handy, I like your idea even if you have a house

  • It'd be cool if you could fulfill all the planting & animal kinship quests while still remaining a nomad.

  • And camp-sites mean music festivals. When is the next Glitchfest by the way? :)

  • perhaps for a bit of extra money one could purchase a magic expanding bag a la Harry Potter.

I don't know, I like the idea that certain choices in the game limit certain quest fulfilment options- but allow others. If being a nomad is not a lifetime choice, you can always decide to buy a house for a while to complete those quests. And if there were nomad quests, home-owners would have to go camping for a bit to do them.

  • Cefeida, yeah, I can see how it is a toss-up.

  • there will be public communal gardens which will allow gardening without a house.

not sure of the utility of tents and campsite, the way things work right now you can just buy more bags to keep stuff.

  • Yes but it might be fun to pitch a tent as you leave the game and re-enter the world a few days later peeking out from under canvas. Utility is sometimes less important in a game than having fun.

  • Well, speaking of utility, if there will be communal gardens, then what is the point of a house? Storage, you might say, but you can just buy more bags. And if a tent also offers storage then it has exactly the same utility.

You could also say a house is where you keep your herd of piggies, but I'd expect that if communal gardens will be created specifically so people don't have to buy a house to garden, then some provision will also be made for herdkeepers. Such as paddocks. And since you don't have to keep a pig outside, I'd imagine you could set one loose inside a tent as well.

Why do we need houses? Will they be more useful in the future? I wonder. Right now a house= a tent in utility, the only difference being tents do not exist.

  • RE: Why do we need houses?

Would be cool if we could furnish it. I would like bigger storage, for example. Dropping stuff all over the floor is weird. It's like NOT having a house. (except my IRL house, which is really more like a locker room.)

  • I'd like a tent and a house. The tent would be useful when I was on a long quest, perhaps taking me several weeks of real-time exploring distant lands before finally returning home.

  • Oh gosh I had a very simular thought to some of the ones here as there are a few new ideas I'll post the whole thing

    Touring Holidays

What if you could go on vacation to another area, leaving your home ready for your return ?

There would be a limited number of Holiday Days per Glitchen Year.

You would take a limited bag capacity into which you could add items of your choice , or just leave them empty and go with the flow, in areas around Ur there would be an option to set up camp and you would choose a period of time to go camping.

Once on holiday you would be unable to return home (What!! you're on holiday get out there and enjoy yourself) You can return home once the holiday period had elapsed. You can move campsite during you holiday period, so if you fancy a tour of several areas that would be possible.

Entry into the holiday accomodation would work the same as with a house. Storage in the holiday home would be limited, maybe a storage box?

Each holiday home would have a crop/herb plot/pot to grow essentials plus a wood tree for fuel. anda campfire to cook on*.

At night you get to sing* around the campfire, this would attract (collectable) fireflies (no matter what area you were in) The more singers, the more /better chance to catch them.

Several holiday home styles could be available eg: Yurt, Tipi, Bedouin tent, camper, grass hut.

Different areas could have different mini game/quest type activities)

(*New skills/skill tree could be added to allow new recepies / singing / fishing )

    Reasons to have Touring Holidays

You could go holiday in a new area to see if its a place you might want to live. Try it out before you buy a home there.

Group holidays with your friends, enjoying the fun activities together.

Meeting new friends. Sharing resources to make wonderful barbecues*/ fun drinks* maybe even new games?

  • Camping sounds like fun. Though I would agree with the suggestion that there really should be a location/region allotted for it.

Also, +1 to the Touring Holidays option. Now I'm imagining a sort of a Glitch vs Wild scenario where your Glitch tries to survive for x number of days using only the items brought for the trip. It'll should probably be set in an isolated island where a boat ferries you there and only returns after the designated number of days are up.
