Talent Trees. A generic, but potentially a very exciting addition to the game.

Often you hear people complaining about how there isn't alot to do, no quests ect. And I agree, apart from the occasional quest and street project, the only thing you can do is make your own fun. Which is theory sounds great, but in practice, many people will often lose motivation without a goal to complete.

So I propose Talent Trees. The trees would range through every skill, and increase your skills in specific abilities passively, with a few 'funtional' utility skills. Ie, Levitation would no longer be a skill, but a talent.

The tree would be split into sub branches, Covering, Animal Skills, Cooking, Natural Resources, Harvesting, Crafting and Personal Development. Allowing the player to customize their Glitch, and improve upon the skills, THEY find fun to use.

You could get talent points from levelling up (obviously), gaining Achievements, and perhaps, after most (not all) skills learned, you get a series of quests, 5-10, relating to the skill earnt. Which at the end of the quest chain would give a large number of Talent Points to use.

The idea being, that Talent points are plentiful, but so are the skills you can learn, which allows you to specialize in 2-3 fields, that you enjoy. Ie, I could specialize in Personal Development and gain skills like Levitation, increased rewards from meditation, while also specializing in say, the Harvesting, which would allow me to increase the amount of resources I gain from trees, crops, increased XP things like that.

The bonuses from the Talents would be rather small, ie, 1-3 extra spice from harvesting from Spice Trees, so there wouldn't be a HUGE advantage over new players, but would offer incentive to play, and give players goals and direction, without forcing them into a specific way to play.

Thanks for reading =)

  • + lots! I really like this idea, it would keep the game challenging and continue to give direction. And I really like the idea of letting players focus on what they enjoy. It would also be fun if there were some more creative/artistic skills/talents available like visual arts or music making.

  • When I read "talent", it made me think of things like playing tunes on yr firefly whistle, or painting on paper. New levels = new tunes, new colours, etc. :)
