I spent today in the skies of Oktyabrya on an odd little aeroship. The ship may be small but, throughout the day, has been crewed by dozens of Glitchen. With Kelvs as our Captain, this crazy little ship that's never seen land, has had a bounty like none other. Piled high, throughout the day, have been trinkets and treasures from all over Ur. Some of it mine, some of it the Cap'n's, but mostly it's just appeared as crew have come and gone.
Give a little, take a little.
For twelve hours now, with very few exceptions, the bounty has remained full. Dozens of people and only a handful have plundered the ship dry. This isn't worth mentioning because it happened once, but because it happens all the time.
I know there are posts about party crashers and loot thieves. Yes, when it happens, it's annoying. But if I learned anything today, it's that the Glitchen community is not driven by greed, but by sharing. And that the loot plunderers, who are probably walking away thinking they got the best of us or that they'll be rich when they get to vendor in Cebarkul, are really missing out. The joy of sharing has led to more than just a good feeling and new friends. Somehow, despite the fact that I've dumped a couple bags worth of stuff on the ship throughout the day, my bags are just as full now as they were when I arrived. Maybe even moreso. The things I didn't necessarily want or need have been replaced by other things, many of which I didn't have and need.
So to all you who joined us on the ship today... ahoy! To those of you who didn't stumble aboard, I look forward to sharing with you soon. And to you plunderers and theives out there, the loot you grab may get you a bit of quick cash, but by learning to give a little you just might find you get a whole lot more.
(Also a quick shoutout to our wonderful pignappers! so many pigs were left today and it's great to know that they will not perish on the tiny ship but, instead, will enjoy a long life of happy pettings and good nibblins')
