Stop making me do math on Auctions

I have 13 Mortar Barnacles. The current lowest price per item is 19c. I want to sell them for 18c each. Why do I have to get my calculator our and multiply 13 * 18 in order to the number I have to type into the auction text box? Can't you figure out the math for me? Let me type in 18 and be done with it. :)

  • Noooooo 'cause there's this other site that does it that way and I screw up and put all of my items there for the price I'd want to sell one at.

  • But 10 x 10 = 100 and 3 x 8 = 24, so isnt 13 x 18 = 124

Seriously though, i agree with you.

  • I am sorry OL. Der Dan, but the correct answer is 234 because you have to do 10x10 plus 10x3 plus 10x8 plus 3x8...

  • At the very least, give us both options. Single item price and total stack price.

World of Warcraft does this fairly well. It has 2 boxes... one for the item price and the second for the number of items you want to sell.

  • This is like Parker Brothers putting a calculator in Monopoly. We are dumbing down our entire society and no longer expect people to have basic skills.

Practice doing arithmetic in your head is invaluable.  Multiple the value of an item by 3/5 and you get its EHSP augmented favor value.  What, you can't do that in your head?  tsk!

okay, shutting up now, I know, I know,  (-1)+(-1)+(-1)...

  • The guys over at NASA aren't doing long division in their head whenever they send a rocket to the moon. They use their TI-89.

  • If you can't do it in your head, at least to get a ballpark value, then you're certain to miss it when you've made mistakes.  Mistakes can be fatal (or at least incredibly expensive) at NASA and most of the rest of the real world.  If a cashier hits the wrong key and the person buying something isn't bright enough to notice that she's being charged ten times what her groceries should cost, and she ends up with her till messed up and the person ends up bouncing checks, it's bad for everybody involved.  Make yourself do your basic math that comes up day-to-day, make yourself come up with at least an estimate of what your result in calculator work should be, and you'll never be sorry you sharpened those skills.
