Would this be allowed, or not? (Question regarding housing and extra accounts)

Hi there.  Since lots of people are looking for herb gardens now, is it allowed for me to create an extra account *solely* for the purpose of letting others use my herb garden in a house in the other account?

Or would this violate the ToS / Community guidelines?

Edit ~ For the curious and very observant: yes for awhile I lived in Shimla Mirch, then in Chakra Phool, for awhile in Jedimadh, etc.  But I moved again lol.  I like moving.  For now I think I'm sticking with my 50k sterile modern prison house, for the extra piggy space and room for my icons.  ^__^

  • It seems from another thread that staff has been giving contradictory answers to this. I guess that is why you ask.

I don't know the origin of the rule that a glitch can only own one house. But it seems pointless to have that restriction in the game if everybody are creating alts to work around it. Might as well remove the cap or raise it.

One problem is that we seen some periods where the attractive house types were sold out, so alts will keep other players from getting the house they want. TS can solve this by making sure enough houses are available, but
in the past they have let some time pass before releasing more houses.

Really, it will be interesting to see the updated policy on this. Staff have been saying until a couple of days ago that alts are fine for whatever purpose as long as you don't play the at the same time or run major manipulations of auction prices or similar. I believe they have even signed off on the mortgage company alts-for-profit scheme.

So the cat is out of the bag and people have invested time and money in building up alts for various purposes. Then we get new skills and a new usefulness for herbs and more players want to do this. It's not really fair to suddenly restrict alts in new ways, but allowing them undermines the one-house-per-glitch mechanic completely.

The most important is of course to make the policy work well after the new housing is released. We don't know yet if customized houses will be traded freely or what, but this policy may be important at that time. And we don't want a messy housing situation to be the reason they need to reset for re-launch!

  • What I see is happening is that some cool new skills have been added ,and now alot of questions regarding housing and turmoil in the herb gardens has come along with these new skills. It's unfortunate that people who live in homes with vegetable gardens don't have
easy axcess to herbs, the cost has sky rocketed in the auctions on them, and if you go to the public gardens it seems that we will have to camp out in the gardens to grow our own herbs.
And unlike the people that live in the bogs who can go to a produce vendor and buy produce
at reasonable set prices we have to spend large sums on buying herbs. I also remember
that with the gardening quests where we have to grow the large amounts of potatoes and I think tomatos (?) and the second part of the quest was to sell them in auction they were sold
very cheap because anyone had axcess to purchase those same veggies at the produce vendor. This is taking some of the exceitment out these new skills and the quests that go along with them.

I think the perfect solution to this would be to have the ability to purchase garden plots to place in our home or under a shade tree, or maybe some type of small greenhouse shed
(that we could also have the ability to purchase), or create; shade tree seed, or build
the shed with planks and metal ingots maybe. But, say, sell the plots in fours, 1 square of 4 plots for currents or credits. If sold by credits than that should be someting that we could
keep and take along to a new house if we move else where. I know people have mentioned this same idea in the past, now it is something needed more than ever because it seems
these new potions will have a strong presence in the game. This is creating a large
financial and time issue for the people that don't have herb gardens. I also think it will
help keep the peace in our entire Glitch community. It's upsetting to see others involved
where feelings are being hurt, and negative static in the forums can calm down.
And it would also avoid a housing crisis and people feeling they need a second home
just for the ability to have reasonable axcess to herbs and have to spend time with an alt just for that purpose only. Or one other solution maybe a way we could trade, fair and reasonable, veggies for herbs....maybe in a communty area farmers market type situation.
This game is way to fun, creative, clever and unique, and not to mention alot of cool people here
to have these kind of issues and confrontations. If I want to see housing crisis and hoarding
and prices rising so quickly on consumer products I will turn on the news or watch a reality show! :)

turn out so large!!! I try not to ramble.......
I also cut & pasted it in the idea forum after I posted here, I should have really just posted it there in the first place.

  • +1 for Togger; very thoughtful, and represents similar thoughts of my own.
My only additional two cents would be to expand property ownership. IE, allow Glitchen to have TWO, not one.
Sort of like owning a summer home.
And then see if that takes the pressure off.
The caveat could be that the second home must be less than the value of the primary home.

Of course the better thing would be for Glitchen to make friends, and share via the key system.

The difficulty there, of course, are griefers.

But I think actually taking the TIME (and we all have only been at this for a few months) to get to know your fellow awesome Glitchen, and then learn to actually have TRUST ... pretty powerful.

For instance: I have recently shared keys with a v. nice person.  The darnedest thing?  When I come back to my place, there's notes and food.  And nothing's missing.  When I go to their place? I empty their containers, put it in bags, pet the trees, make sure the butterflies are happy.

    And that's all I do.

So, it is possible to share. It is possible to be nice.  It is possible to make friends that you can trust here on Ur.  And that's some pretty wonderful emergent behavior that's NOT baked into the software.

The awesomeness of Glitch begins with TS, but it ends with the connections and relationships YOU are able to make here.

Sharing.  Looking out for one another. Generosity.

    It's a whole new concept.

  • I strongly suspect that this entire issue will become moot when the new housing is unveiled, which may be part of the reason that there isn't a firm line coming from the mods/staff/etc.  One of the most obvious "upgrades" to a house would be to add additional garden plots/herb plots/tree patches, and I doubt the devs will overlook that option.

Personally?  I'm just going to wait until the housing stuff is released before I get worried about the various herb skills.  I've got plenty to do in the mean time.
