Seeking Piggy Help

I logged in for the first time after a few days, and sadly found my pig had passed. I had a fully grown bean tree, and even some rice on the ground, so I'm rather confused on why the pig died. It is a project of mine to eventually learn Remote Herdkeeping and get a Piggy Feeder, but that's weeks away at my learning rate.

Since my piggy had passed, I went to visit my friend's pig to get some crops made into plops. I fed the piggy 12 strawberries, and in return I got nothing. I'm having a bad piggy night. I searched the forums, but is there any kind of Animal Guide available for the novice Glitch farmer? (I know it is/was 3 crops per plop, and just wondering if there has been an update or change or bug..) My friend's yard also has all the fine tools of the herdkeeping trade if that plays a part on crop plop production.

  • ok im feeling dumb, what is the question? plops?

it should be 3 eats per plop if its still the same..

a pig can eat from a tree, but im not sure if it could eat from (for example) a gas tree or a paper tree.  beans, fruit, spice..those seem to (sometimes) keep pigs going.  they can - but not always - eat stuff off the ground.

  • I left grain on the ground in my old house and they would eat that often enough, but I also used about half a dozen feeders too, to ensure that I could ignore them for quite a while but keep them going.

  • I had this problem before I got all the RH skills. Piggies eat a LOT of food, 12 strawberries is nothing. Your best bet is to plant a tree for them to eat from. Make sure they can reach it if you have a piggy stick.

Also, regarding plop, you used to have to feed 3 crops and then get a plop or you'd waste the rest of the crops. Now you can feed say, 9 crops at one time and you'll get enough plops that you have 3 seeds. So yes, you can feed lots of crops at once, but make sure it's a crop that has seeds. (Strawberry seeds are no longer available, now they're fruit-changing machine only.)

  • they cant eat more than me, cuz i eat a LOT.

elf plops, on the other hand...ultra rare...(and 7 different colors at once)

  • Thanks for the input. I was talking with a friend and he pointed out that Strawberries are no longer grown from seeds. I missed that memo.

So the real question is: In my backyard, I have a bean tree and left out rice. My piggy died. I don't know why. Though my friend offered to host a Piggy Feeder in my yard till I can use one myself. It'll remain a mystery why the piggy didn't eat the beans.

  • I read some post recently that mentioned if trees weren't watered, etc. the piggies can still starve.

  • 1) I've frequently noticed when I harvest a tree on a street out in Ur that there are immediately several "yum"s as nearby piggies eat from the tree, too. This has caused me to wonder whether there is some connection such that piggies can only eat from trees when glitchen harvest them.
    2) My old home street in Salatu had no trees and several piggies on it. I always left out grain for the piggies on the ground. The grain was always gradually consumed, and the piggies were always ready to be nibbled and never starved.

  • Also might help that stawberries were changed to fruit, so won't produce seeds any more, so no plops from them. I keep chickens near my pigs, it makes them happier. Can you fill a remote piggy feeder without herd keeping? Cos I'd put one out for you.

  • you will need herd keeping to fill the feeders

  • Don't piggies eventually die of "old age" no matter how much food/trees they have available to them? I thought that was a thing. Hence the reason why one of the potions allows you to re-youth your piggies.

  • I've never heard of piggies dying from anything but starvation. The youth potion is helpful, as far as piggies are concerned, because you can make them babies so you can pick up many at once (as opposed to using pig bait which only allows you to get one at a time) and/or to store them so a lack of feeding doesn't kill them if you're away on vacation (or about to be evicted from your housing district, lol). My understanding is that trees need to be watered and maybe petted now before pigs will eat from them (if it's been awhile since either of those things has happened) but I'm not sure about this in my own yard as I've had HK for a really long time and am fairly obsessive about keeping my feeders full...

  • Um, you said that you fed your friend's piggies strawberries and got nothing. This is because you now have to make them using a fruit changer instead.

  • I am not certain about this but maybe the trees need more water and petting when piggies are eating from them.  Yes, piggies do get lonesome and you should have  some chickens and butterflies too.

More than a year ago when I was new to the game and had not learned any RH, I seem to recall being able to use a feeder.  I did put one out but cannot recall if I was able to fill it (maybe not).  I had 3 or 4 piggies, 2 chickens and 2 or 3 butterflies as well as 2 or 3 trees.  I never lost a pig at that treehouse in Groddle or at any other house since then that I recall.  If your pigs get either lonely or overcrowded they will say so.

ETA:  I did lose 2 pigs but that only happened when someone took my Feeder.  Those are the only pigs I have lost.

  • Strawberrys can no longer be planted, the gods changed it. You cannot get strawberry seeds

  • Not sure, but I think petting may play a part.  They can be well fed, but still broken hearted if they don't get petted

  • Also, if you have a friend who has RHK have them drop by and fill piggy feeders in your yard (I believe this works, can anyone say otherwise?).

If you don't have a friend who can do this, you could friend me and have me do it for you. I'm typically on every day :)

  • Well, if you're open to some experimentation, you can check if your piggies have a favorite spot on the ground where they feed on. I scatter beans on the ground (5 beans per dropped stack) along the piggies full path. So far, for my piggies, I've seen them eating only the beans from one particular spot, so I usually drop the most number of beans on that spot. However, this spot changes after a few days, but it can sometimes take weeks before they migrate to a new favorite eating area.

I don't have RHK --- I'm only up to AK5 so I can't use a feeder yet, but I kept my piggies alive for months using this method. Only time they got turned into meat was when I substituted potatoes for beans. I'm not too sure if this works for other players, but it works for me, so I'm still using it.
