No Quests?

Am I really out of Quests?

I don't like the 'timed games' and got hung up in the Rook Egg... it's been 30 minutes and I have nothing to do... Yes, I'm aware I could go randomly mess with things, and I probably will... but the lag = boredom = logging out.

Anyone else have this issue? Do more Quests appear?

  • This is an old thread, but at any rate there are lots of new quests coming at some unidentified time in the not too distant future (the things I go through to avoid that S word .... )

  • Have you been learning new skills constantly? New quests seem to be associated with new skills.

  • Oh never mind. I see you're way ahead of me (level 51? Yikes!)

  • Wow.... never expected this old post to surface :D This dates back to alpha days and some early frustrations with a lack of Quests. Many, many things have changed since I first wrote this... I would love to hear from some of the new players about the pace of Quests as the are now.

What feedback do new eyes have for us?

  • I'm level 10 and a pretty casual gamer (hour here, hour there...) I'm probably actively doing quests about 1/3 to 1/2 of the time. I have more quests than I can accomplish, but I don't mind. It means I can pick and choose the ones that sound interesting.

  • I think my experience is a bit atypical. I have been on the beta list for months but I only logged in recentlylaywo weeks ago?). I've spent quite a few hours playing during weekends, and then during this most recent test, I spent most of it just learning skills because it was during work hours. Consequently, I have tons of quests to do.

In fact, I don't think there was ever a time when I didn't have three or four quests teed up.

  • I was like magic panda until I reached level 13-14 when they slowed down considerably. I think it's definitely because the learning time for skills become so much longer, so you wait to get more quests only upon the completion of learning said skills.

I've also had the Rook Egg quest waiting for me till I learnt the necessary skill for it, and I'm still on my way to doing that. Other than that one I've burned through all my quests pretty quickly.

  • @Divine~ I think Blizzards definition of that dreaded S word works well

  • I've been through a few resets in my testing time, and the main thing I've realised is that there really isn't *much* point in levelling up during Beta. It's fun to experiment with different playing styles and *test* new things. And I know the feeling from past testing periods: quests run dry the higher your level. And some higher skills don't have quests associated with them at all. Dare I say, I only learned some of the skills (such as Cocktail Crafting II) for the quest reward! :O

  • About the reset: mostly I'm leveling up and working in skills furiously just out of curiosity. I mean... I know I'm going to lose all this stuff, but getting new skills means I get to do different things each time I play. Which begs the question: is the game as fun once you've exhausted the skill tree?

  • If I've learned anything from Second Life, it's that people want goal directed game play or at least basic scaffolding or they lose interest.  I assume more quests are in the pipeline and though I personally could be perfectly happy goofing around without them, I think the majority of casual gamers require those milestones to feel engaged.

  • Well said, Fleep.  I don't have many quests on my list and I found during the last test I was pretty uninterested in playing.  I hope they add more quests. I hope they add them during the in-between times from learning new skills.  I can create my own I guess, but I'm pretty boring to play with!

  • I agree about needing to have "something to do" to motivate me to play the game. One area that you might consider is that in addition to quests, you can earn achievements. There are lots more of them. Most of these come with XP rewards and many with unlocking new recipes or skills and the message that you have done something swell.  Like Hburger's example, I am not so interested in growing animals but will eventually turn there for the quest rewards...something to work towards.

  • @Harley - okay it's just bizarre that you would send me a link to Blizzard, not gonna bother to explain why but I will tell you that they are related to why I don't want to use it ....

  • The merits/flaws of reset and tactics have been talked to death, and essentially provide no useful information. One of the ways new players are extremely valuable in a beta test is - a new perspective... us 'old farts' can make suggestions and complain, but we really can't tell Tiny Speck how the world feels when you first visit it anymore. We don't know what is disorienting, confusing, difficult, hard to grasp, or not explained well enough.

Thank you so much Linnea, Sharmy, and magic panda! It takes courage to get involved in the Forums, and I for one am glad you have. For any of the new players who have joined us in the last few tests feeling like their voice doesn't matter/won't be heard... feel free to jump right in! You may not realize how precious your thoughts are :D

  • I pocketed the majority of quests since a lot of them overlap or become much easier later.  This is one more reason why veterans can't critique the newbie experience, cuz what do I know about quest pacing when I pocket them for a month?

  • Thanks, @Travinara! In general, the Glitch community seems great.
