Identify when someone is typing

Put "..." or something similar above someone's head when they're typing into the chat window. This way, if you start a conversation with someone you can tell if they're typing back at your as opposed to being AFK or just ignoring you.

  • I second that notion. This would be an excellent addition.

  • What would happen if I started typing, and then walked away, got lunch, and came back?

  • "What would happen if I started typing, and then walked away, got lunch, and came back?"

    it would detect that you stopped typing and take the notification away.

    lots of chat apps do typing detection, it isn't super difficult.

  • It would only work for IM's and maybe not even then, but I like unix's "talk" where you can see what the other person is typing as they type it. Conversations go twice as fast cuz you don't have to wait for them to finish the sentence or edit things just so.

    If they did typing detection... what if I typed reallllly slowly? :P

    A flashing ... notification above my head might get annoying.

    @Tingly
    The problem with live typing is that you can't type something and decide that maybe the other person won't want to see it. :/

  • i prefer that system myself [live type], but i know some people don't like it because it makes them feel self-conscious.

    i think in glitch, where people might zip by without seeing anything, the risk of self-consciousness might be worth the trade-off.

  • Maybe it could be an option for the player? While I can leave mine off, you can turn live typing on, and, that person over there *points at a random person* can use the ellipsis.

    There, everyone's happy. ^^

  • Live typers are more cautious about what they type, so neither method is better or worse in the long run. But, not much chance of it happening.
