Topic

the time has come for an off-topic forum!

i used to really love reading all the forum posts, but lately... yikes!

could we kindly have a forum designated for topics that are off-topic to the game itself?  this would be a super-fabulous thing for those of us who are more interested in discussing the game than, well, i won't give examples, i am sure that you can fill this part in yourself!

i imagine that it would also probably be helpful for the devs to have less chuff to sort through to get to the relevant discussions.

And yes, I have contributed to many off-topic posts, but I think it's clear that there are those who want to have some fun and play games and write fanfic. (Which I think there's nothing wrong with and I was sorry to see that implication.) However, yes yes yes I do agree that it would be a great idea to collect them in a "Just for Fun" forum so that the devs have less to sort through and so that those who want to do that don't feel like pariahs. I think they probably intend to give some more forum functionality but it's maybe been low priority. But I think it is time to do at least some of that! :)

  • i dunno, i've grown to like some of the nonsense or non game related topics in general, and like the mix, but as someone who does not actually start up suck topics should probably defer to the judgment of those who do.

  • I've been posting only recently, but tbh, I don't see the need. The forums aren't that widely used. While I agree that in most forums, this would be a 100% needed thing, I think they're doing fine right now.

I'm going to include this in a 'the devs have their reasons' excuse. The people working on this game are some of the webs greatest experts. Eric alone is a web god, and that's just one person. I'm sure they know what they're doing, and when the time comes to have more forum amenities, you'll see them.

  • "web god"---LOL, Mr. D! And they are for sure! Love that term. I also refer to them as "awesomers"---some clever glitcher (Divine? Rascal?) came up with that to describe how they dazzle and amaze us cuz we just love glitch:) @Rascal: what does term fanfic mean?

  • @Rachel  Fanfic is fan-made fiction using the characters and or settings of the original author's world.  For example, you could probably find more than a few fanfics about Harry Potter and Hermione becoming a couple, which doesn't happen in JK Rowling's world.

  • I think this is important because of the very simple forum interface we have. There isn't an easy way to filter, see your own posts, see friends' posts, etc. The grouping is chronological by last post and you don't have a way of seeing what threads you posted in.

  • Can we say this group is really getting bored waiting for Glitch to re-open?

Thanks for the mention, @millie. :)

  • @FF np. And I don't really agree :\ There used be less playing time than there is now, and there weren't so many extraneous threads as there are now. In my admittedly limited experience, of course.

  • @Millie - I run a private BBS with something like over 64 categories! I'm the only moderator/programmer. I know how complicated a forum can become. :)

There were also a LOT less players then there are now.

  • Talk about perfect timing. The OP should change this topic to "Solved" :)

  • No. :P

It would have been perfect timing 23 days ago. You don't have to try to micro-manage the forums, and you don't have to reply to every post.
