I've run out of things to do

Before, it was a fight for survival. Later, it was mainly a fight to learn skills (and get emblems so I could learn skills), complete quests, and do some surviving in between. Now, I've completed almost all my quests, my skills take forever to learn, and I've got stacks of food & drink to keep me alive for ages.

Now what?

Edit: I guess my goal for now will be to get enough money to buy a house with more patches, and to stock up on piggies. But then I'll really have reached equilibrium.

  • start collecting loam for projects.

    that's about it.

  • Climb leaderboards, work toward specific badges, help new players, find interesting ways to decorate your house using existing game items, make a crab happy, make up games to play, try to visit every street, find all of the secret places in the tower, chat with people, talk to animals, trees, etc, work on projects, try to break things and report bugs, make donations to reduce skill learning times, come up with new ideas and post in forums.

  • You could always take a look at the achievements - there are loads of them and they will give you a set of goals to aim for =)

  • The deal with most of those goals being that I don't really get anything for them. It's kind of mindless busywork.

  • This is what the point of striatic's post was a week or so ago.  I'll come back with that link.  The response from staff was that the game is primed up to level 20.  Beyond level 20, it's not as fleshed out yet.

  • Congratulations RobotGymnast, you've reached level 20, the unofficial level at which you've "finished" glitch.  :) Once people get to level 20, the game mechanics themselves don't have much to offer.  The developers are aware of this and hope to work on more things for us to do in the future. For now, you can do what others have suggested or try to participate in some social stuff like groups (Happy Crabs group is always looking for more crab pleasers.)

  • Ah, thanks for the info.

  • I see what you mean, even if I can't say I'm bored.

I'm having fun participating in projects or parties.
And I still have goals. But my current goals feel like they're gonna take forever to be achieved. I am totally ok with that. I like when things take time and recquire patience. But that doesn't go well with a game that is only open a few days a week. It's more the kind of things you go through by playing everyday. I feel a little frustrated about that sometimes but I'm sure it'll be easier when the game is open 24/24.
And the game will be more "fleshed out" as zeeberk said. ^^

Being more social... Yeah, I really have to work on that. In-game & IRL. >_<

  • It's ok, when the world is wiped you will have to start again from scratch - so you'll have lots to keep you busy! XD

  • Now is the time to create personal Goals and achieve them.  I am in your boat.  No more quests (yet) and I have about 4 skills, all of which will take many days each.  So, I just make my own Goals.  Yesterday, I used most of my tools and did a lengthy walkabout of locations.  Daily I find and visit any new locations.  I try to plant at least one of everything.  I kiss every Dev I find - LOL!  There are many things yet to do but you need to think creatively and try to do something you haven't done before or do something differently or find some other Glitch/Glitches and do something together, etc.  This is a little harder because you have no specific Quests, no known Badges but doing something creative may end with an odd Badge or two.

Another thing is to update your Badges.   Check the Badges others have to find one or more that you don't have yet and then get it/them.  there are probably very few, if any, who have all of the Badges.

Figure out which Trophys you don't have and get them.  Entertain Crabs, etc.

  • RG, seems there is still plenty for you to do (work on projects seems like the next logical step), but I would like to agree with you on the extended times to learn new skills at a certain point...

I have to say, it is a bit disconcerting the exponential increase in times that it takes to learn skills. I don't have any issue with it taking longer the more skills you learn, but the current system seems to discourage you from learning new things after a certain point, which I think could lead to a boring gaming experience at higher levels.

They say they are going to add more, so that we can specialize in areas, but frankly there are a bunch of baseline skills that everyone really should have to make the game a more enjoyable play experience. Once those are learned (ie, probably everything up to having to earn emblems to continue), and you start specializing in certain areas, the learning time just starts to get quite extended - rather than hours it jumps to days and weeks. If they are adding more skills eventually, I hope they adjust the learning times to potentially be more geometrically based (at least at higher levels), else it will take months to learn some of the future uber advanced skills, and I'm not sure people will keep playing while waiting for a skill to finish that takes so long.

I get the concept of 'unlearning' at a certain point, but still, I'm not sure the current time algorithm will scale well for future growth in the skills tree.

  • I'm hoarding money and still learning skills... :S

  • Hoarding money is a great idea for the next big house release!
Posted 18 months ago by Morticia Addams Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah but I'm going to lose that house anyway! I think I'm only hoarding it so that I get to that point where it doesn't feel bad to spend money on things anymore. I'm like Glitchis Hilton or something.

  • @Cerulean - too much money and nothing to do with it? Sounds like a good excuse for a party!!

  • Congrats on achieving a state of Glitch-y Oneness with the Universe.
Now is the time to flex your creative muscles : )

No, I'm serious. Welcome to that place you hear people complaining about. The game has meat until Level 25 or so, flesh until Level 40 or so, and is bones from there.... hence *beta*, it is still Under Construction. Find a way to enjoy yourself until the next skill finishes. Now, I'll go sit quietly in my corner and wait for Engineering, Constructions, or Unlearn so I have another skill to learn.... those long, long waits may seem horrible - but a number of people have finished the skill table (or are close to it) since the Teleport skills were expanded.

  • let me be the first to say I'm very impressed with this game. However the "fleshing out the end game" has been said by about every MMO game dev since the beginning of time. A few follow through, but most don't...

So if you need constant tangible goals to keep you entertained in a game, I'd be worried about dissapointment.

I love sandbox games however, so it doesn't scare me in the least :)

  • I have been having fun doing a lot of self directed things, but for me, there is something lacking here. The devs and designers certainly are showing off their skills, but they have not given players many built in ways  to do that. Goals, quests, achievements are many, but not the basic building blocks to make things ourselves. In between tests I play in the wardrobe and vanity to get a new look for each week. There are only proscribed variations on clothes, not even choices of colors. Using existing inventory items to make vignettes in my house is fun, but again only goes so far. There is not much suspense built into the game...it doesn't take long to figure out that the spinning wheel gives lots of tickets....and not much new stuff at the street projects. When I started playing, I actually was under the impression that the players would contribute more to the forming of the world, but as it turns out, that is not the case.

I do very much like the interaction with other players, but so far Glitch is not an outlet for player creativity. I do not need more tangible goals. I would like a way to create! Based on the existing game options, I am not holding my breath for that to happen.

  • this test offered something more. did you miss it? surely, i can't be the only one to have noticed. really. hmmmmmmmm. i shall have to ponder this longer. *zips lips shut and throws away key*

  • The thing that amused me most about this last test was the stories told by the animals, rocks, etc. The storyline for the game is really getting fleshed out now, and there's alot more to come. There will be more level(s) opened in the current tower, and new towers added in the future, all of which will reveal even more of the story, along with giving us new puzzles to work on and cool new rooms to explore. Also, group halls and decorations for homes will be available in the future, as well as pets. And the Rook will be coming... That's just the stuff we know about--I'm sure there are some surprises in the works as well.

I'm level 38 and I'm not even close to being bored yet, but then I enjoy working on the projects and setting personal goals for myself, as well as socializing sometimes and helping out new players.

  • I loved the stories, some hinted at things in the game like a Potian that hid things "up", does that mean there are things up high for us to find? Is that what you're talking about Betty? There were lots of mention of festivals and events in the stories, I'm hoping that's a hint of calendar events soon.

  • I'm level 31 and spend a fair amount of time wandering aimlessly about, I have a vague idea that I'd like to fill a bag with full slots of cooked food but I find I'm eating it all, while I'm mining, to donate to speed up the next skill, ooh what's that pretty thing? Attention span of a kitten!

I haven't been in more than 1 room of the tower, and end up wandering in circles both in the tower and in the world! I have about 4 or 5 quests left -- ones that require skills I don't have (rainbow run, amazing race, the rook egg, ...) I only managed the spinach quest this test!

I'm in my third house (heights, shimla, now the meadows because I *need* a garden) The Alakol mansions don't really attract me - they're fun to visit, but I'd feel like I was living in a gallery, or a barn. (Sorry, just splank me, don't unfriend me!)

The best thing about the latest test is the stories coming from the trees etc. Each has its own personality, the devs have put a lot of thought into it. Brilliant, thank you.

  • RobotGymnast seems you've lost sight that the Giants are to be honored - we never run out of things to do in the world of Glitch - as the Giants continue to want our attention and homage via. donations, donations, donations.

Internally - those who harmonize their innerGlitch, gain rewards beyond all expectations - this alone is worth pursuing! Do not lose sight of the goal!
