Black font turns into red, underlined fonts = Ads

Throughout the game of Glitch now, words can be found everywhere that started out with plain, black, non-underlined font which soon changed into red, double-underlined font that links you to an advertisement.  When did this start happening? (Sorry if this has been discussed already. I searched the topics but couldn't find this.)

  • This is likely to be the result of a virus or some sort of nefarious browser extension you have installed.

  • I know what you mean but i don't experiance it, More or less likely you have a browser extension or toolbar installed which does this, Basically you write words, it searches for those words on the internet then links you to a page its found.

  • It sounds like something that's happening on your computer and not caused by Glitch. Have you tried using a different browser? Or running a virus/malware scan?

  • Yeah, pretty likely that this is browser cooties.  (goes off to find a supply of circles and dots for inoculations)

  • I downloaded Google Chrome BUT - after this - I downloaded the Diigo toolbar several times because it would not stay.  One time, it came with 3 programs that downloaded themselves. I kept trying to download the Diigo toolbar to Chrome.  Of course, now that I've read everything about the Chrome toolbar, that was never going to work. Recently, Diigo.com got its site hijacked, and worked day and night to get it back. I now suspect that Diigo.com has been hijacked again.

Thanks for your input.  I am absolutely certain you are right.

  • Toolbars are like a doorstop. You can try and keep that door shut to prevent viruses getting in your computer, but the doorstop just lets them fly in willy-nilly. ALL toolbars are bad, even if they aren't causing problems themselves, because they are inherently insecure. Please don't use toolbars, everybody, you honestly shouldn't need them for anything.

  • If one voice in the industry isn't enough, I'll add mine to Lady Callia's, though she's said everything needed to be said...

    Do not use toolbars.

If it's for a site you want to access, use the bookmark feature, and put the bookmark there.

There's some really fancy, amazing tricks you can do with a well written bookmark.

One of the worst things for US in this era, is the fact that every installer comes with 2 or 3 things added into the installer.  It bloats files, and people who don't click custom get 3 or 4 things they didn't even know existed... and lets face it, the kind of company that pays other companies to sneak things onto other people's computers, are not going to be worried about keeping those computers safe.
