Multiply by zero = Going away giveaway.

*** Winners announced below! ***

I've enjoyed my time with Glitch, but it feels like the current shift is towards crafting an experience for newer players. A lot of us have stuck around for a long time — meaning a lot of things with the game work well — but it feels like there is less of a place to do something new, or something unique that is earned by investing time into the game. As simple as they were, the quoin multipliers were one of these things. There isn't much for us longer term players to try to achieve — aside from trying to amass enough currants to buy a dusty stick, or a glitchmas yeti, neither of which is guaranteed.

At least I can say there was a moment where I collected a high value quoin worth over 20,000img, but, today, that day has come to and end.

Before I depart the world of Ur, I am going to give away everything I own. Including:

- Fun Pickle / stoot barfield, for making a game that hooked me early and for a long time (Hint: this is sort of like one of those big payouts that goes to a celebrity that they then donate to someone else.)
- GNG / Buttercup✿, a song for a song.

- Full set of dolls / Pirate Apples, perhaps they will remind you to be mindful in the moment.

- Full set of cubmials / Graceful Glitchen, keep free versing.

- Full set of icons / Kouki Sangoma the gods can be helpful even to those that are new(er) devotees.

- A bunch of emblems (including full set) / OMG BACON!! the emblems aren't bacon, but they will have to do.

- 900,000+ currants / bumblepuppy, I ran out of time to grind back to 1,000,000 currants, so I hope you will settle for slightly less.

- 50 get out of hell free cards / railroadbaron, you seem to be particularly fond of the concept of “hell“.

Rather than the typical random draw, players are encouraged to write about something that they love/hate about the game. Each person I choose will receive one of the groups of items listed above. Points will be awarded for creativity. I will distribute the good on Monday.

Update 1: Posts slagging people for (rage) quitting over changed functionality definitely won't be winning — unless they are particularly creative. Maybe a haiku? However, these (rage) posts are amusing, so keep them coming!

Update 2: Thanks for all the kind words. The decision to leave is final, though I'm not doing it just because of the quoin multipliers. It's also about wanting to devote time to other things. Glitch has become a part of my routine, and I don't want it to feel that way. Simply routine. There is a chance I will come back to see what changes have been made in a few months time, but giving these things away in Glitch is a reminder that it can be done in the real world too.

Disclaimer: Point multipliers will be limited to 1.

I learned how to write this kind of poem a few weeks ago. It's called a diamonte poem. The 1st 2 lines an first 2 words on the 3rd line all describe one thing;the 2nd 2 words on the 3rd line and the last 2 line describe another. There supposed to be opposites. (That's about as creative as I get...sorry, I'm just not too skilled in that area.)

That's what I love about this game. There are so many cute, creative ideas in it. It's so cool...i.e. How hell has a bartender. I love all the new updates, but I hate how the subscribers have such a large advantage. I miss how it used to be... pretty much all you could do with credits was pay for clothes, or get TP tokens.

  • I love piggies. I love chickens. I love sarcastic comments from my magic rock and how much the game thinks about those little details.

I love the way the chicks whine when you put them down in a cave. And how the chickens all jump up when you say 'KFC'. And the giants, when you donate to their shrines. The sound that makes.

  • First of all, I encourage you to stick around, because a) I believe that Stoot and Tiny Speck are doing this game as a labor of love and they will continue to make it better and better over the weeks, months and years to come and b) once the beta period ends (or at least once the tutorial thing is done) there will be a whole wave of new players, exploring Ur for the first time, and it could be a lot of fun to share that experience with them.

The thing I love most about Glitch is the visual exploration - most every street has something interesting to look at, and through the forums I've realized that there are a lot of wonderful details that I missed in my initial explorations.  In short, the fun of this game, for me, is largely about going on long walks.

I dislike the lag times, especially in my house as a result of all the stuff on the floor from the exploding moving boxes.

  • I love being able to play at my own pace.  I love the whimsy.
I love button mashing in a dense flock of chickens.....

I dislike when someone renames all the animals in multiple streets to the same schmucking thing.  I dislike when people play without compassion or creativity, there's plenty of other outlets for that.  I dislike that I cant eat paper.   Why can I eat planks but not paper?

....And I dislike seeing these good-bye posts,
Before I've had a chance to meet these folks!

You're so glitchy all the time
    But I still love you
    From splurging on cubis
    who only just roll,
    And Free feasts galore,
Provided by a kind glitch or two
To Deimaginators (What reptile are they anyways????)
Chasing us smuggling rebellious glitchens down.
What's not to love, about dear ol' glitchy glitch?
(To be read in a dramatic voice)
(I probably will regret this post tomorrow, when I am not in such a zombie state :) )
(I hope you actually don't leave this game!!)

  • I'm not very good at the social aspect of Glitch, but I appreciate how most people are friendly when I try. I love the cuteness of the world; how a squid cubimal will slither on the ground and gaze at me with its little black eyes as I caress its tentacles; how my Glitchy face tweaks as I douse myself in purple for a floaty journey; how the batterflies grumble as I try to extract guano, or when the butterflies chatter with glee as I milk their blue, buttery teats.

    a labor of love
    can create single-minded thoughts
    and poor game design

    listen to the noise
    value outsider perspectives
    then, glitch may evolve

    as a webtoy, fun
    as MMORPG
    truly disappointing.

  • I love this goodbye tradition of sharing the wealth and writing a sort of testament.

I love and hate the fact that glitch is such an awesome game, because it creates a userbase that goes ballistic when something changes - both good and bad.

    - I love the friendly glitchen of which there are most

    - I hate that some feel entitled to dictate playing style

    - I love the involvement and inclusiveness shown from staff

    - and I love the creativity from my fellow glitchen

I hope to see you in some form in the future. Good luck with your endeavors whatever they may be.

What i like about this game .

This game attracts for the most people that have a different understanding for the word cool.
They are more kind and more into being there for each others than any game i have ever played .
Those Giants not only influence the Glitches but seam to even reach the hearts of them people playing Glitch.

TS is also a very different story than most MMO 'rulers" ,never felt so close and still feel the professional distance ,in my view awesome balance.

As any game has a positive influence on my well being its this funny game and i thank ALL the "glitch hearted " players/devs for the contribution they gave/give to make this virtual world a better "world"

  • I ask for nothing as I guess you will be here still logging in and enjoying Glitch on Tuesday.  Please just take the long weekend to relax away from the game.

Sure if after that time you don't miss Glitch and you don't miss the social aspect (chatting with folks and bestowing random kindness and free gifts on the unaware) then  by all means deactivate your account.

I feel your frustration, but I've mostly reached that point myself when I've played in game for too many hours on too many consecutive days and for me it's sort of like a melt down.  The best thing I have found is to put away the laptop, sit in the garden, watch some DVD's and just let my mind relax and focus away from from the IMG/mood/energy gathering (and incessant harvesting lol) : ) : )

  • I was gutted this morning when I logged on to find my multipliers gone - and with no good explanation IMO.  Just wtf am I supposed to do with 14million iMG ?  Sure, Stoot - more stuff is coming .... but I doubt it'll cost 14mill iMG !

I understand your position aleph - really I do .... this game seems to penalise longer term players who do not want to use just the social aspects of the game.  I am not leaving.  Just waiting now, and watching.  I wish you would do the same - would be sad if you regretted leaving. Whichever way you choose, good luck and have fun :)

Edited to add :  Good grief No! Aleph - please do not give me any of your stuff LOL

  • The thing I really love is the art aesthetic of the game. It's simple and cartoony but it really contains a vibrancy and joy that is lacking in most games. There's a sense of fun there, it just refuses to take itself too seriously, yet it creates a complex and intricate world.

The effect both interefaces and world building have on play is often underestimated, but Glitch's graphics kinda give you a way into the game showing you what it expects off you. It encourages friendly play, rather than the seriousness of other mmos. Glitch has some of the best and nicest players and I'm sure alot of that is the graphic design. Those people who want to tear up the worlds they find themselves in simply wouldn't want to play in such a friendly sandbox as we have here.

And that makes me a happy bunny :)

  • Sorry to see another person leaving, but I totally understand. Wishing you the best in all your adventures!

One of my favorite things about Ur has changed (at least for the time being), but I always loved the paranoid trees. Having them talk to you about the other trees and the shady goings-on was always a treat!

The only reason I keep coming back, personally, is the friends I've made now. I come in to laugh and chat or even grin and lurk about global and the various groups I chat in.

Stuff-bombing friends' houses is quite fun too :)

  • What can I say other than everyone plays and stays or leaves a game for many reasons. You are the only one who can really make the determination to stay or go. What I would suggest to you is to just take a vacation from Glitch, don't give away your treasured positions yet, hold onto them for a little bit longer. We are still in Beta and from what I can see of Glitch (I've been around since the end of Alpha) it is a world that seems to be constantly changing. Yes, it does seem as if there is a finite amount to accomplish, but who knows what changes Stoot & company have in store for us. I would recommend that you take a break for a few months, then come back one last time to see if there have been enough changes to keep you enjoying the game. If not, then look back over these entries and give some people some truly wonderful surprise gifts.

  • I love that Glitch really has no point. It makes an ideal time waster because I can just play and mess around and do whatever I feel like doing and then stop whenever I want. I love that I can be social and chat or hide out in my house and rearrange things and either way I feel no more or less accomplished than I did when I started.

  • What I love about the people of Glitch is that despite the near certainty of being called a "whiner" or "complainer" they continue to voice their gripes here on the forums and quite often initiate a change for the better.

  • I enjoy how glitch allows for personal freedoms within the context of the game. However, it would be nice if we could choose between two competing factions (rook's viruses versus the giant's glitches or somesuch) to make things more interesting. Oh well, stagnation is death after all.

  • I really do love the game community and, since I haven't reached the "inexhaustible currants, omnipotent power" stage of playing, I do like that I can set and work toward goals.

I don't hate anything, but I do sometimes get frustrated. I think that because Glitch is so open and so charming and safe, everyone immediately and unconsciously develops an opinion of which development direction is the "right" one. It is so strongly held that for each player, that becomes "obviously what is good for Glitch" and movement in the other direction are "bad and un-Glitchy and mean and trolling and stealing and rude." And two people on the opposite side of the same argument can both feel that they are the first and the other side is the second. That makes conversations about where the game as going really hard, because it goes from 0 to accusatory immediately.

less fun when you will be done
    but it is still fun

I love the way glitch is still in beta, hence there are much less trolls. (there are still trolls) also the support staff is really nice and its great how its MADE to be played together.

    BUT SERIOUSLY

WHATS THE POINT OF THE GAME?????? THERE IS NO POINT!!!!!!!! you have to love it or hate it.

    For me, its both.

  • WhAt? You're still here wasting precious bandwidth?  Hurry up and get lost !!!
Ok so I'm just kidding and thought I'd catch people off guard for a few seconds :p

Beta testing a game is never easy, actually sometimes it's tooooo easy! You get to rack up points fast and then find out that's not how it's suppose to work, the game needs to have a challenge to it otherwise it gets boring.  In some fighting games maybe a weapon or set of armor is too good and it gets nerfed after you've come to rely on it.  Things like this need to change otherwise the customer base is going to disappear fast and soon so will the game :(

One major thing I do like about Glitch is I don't HAVE to be here every day.  You won't come back to a garden full of dead crops, your PvP points gone, or your castle raided. Not everyone plays at the same speed and there really isn't any "falling" behind.  Ok so a few people have already made it to the new 60, did they have fun getting there or did they make it into a grind - really it doesn't matter because it just proves there's more than one way to play the game :)

Hope this is just going to be a vacation for you because you know the curiosity about what Stoot said is already itching at the back of your mind ..... Mauuwhahaha :p

  • I am glad you posted your reasons for leaving.   I wasn't into getting quoin multipliers so its not an issue for me but I do understand how you feel about it.   I remember before the switch to Img I had been playing without much direction or thinking much about goals.  I'd stopped caring abut leveling up.   When it seemed like the change was near, and when we thought levels would no longer exist, I decided I wanted to try to make a run for level 60.    I discovered that by a combination of shrine donations, visits to the ancestral lands and makiing the maximum amount of proper rice every ur day...I could level up two or three times a week.   It was sort of fun.   It wasn't my normal style of play but I liked the impending deadline.    Then TS decided to nerf the recipes from the awesome pot that gave "too much" xp.  Sigh.
It wasn't worth quitting over, and they were right that proper rice and oaty cake gave an excessive amount of xp, but it took the wind out of my sails and I just decided to sit back and wait for the switch over instead of caring about leveling up.  I don't usually care about that sort of play so it wasn't a problem for me to adapt.

I guess you were having the same sort of fun with the quoin multiplier but do remember that it is beta, and they really can't anticipate how every new feature could be exploited to give some players much more Img than others.   It has to be tested.    I hope they don't drive away all the players who enjoy your style of ambitious play.   It would be very boring if we were left with us aimless types.   I may never get a rook cubimal, despite my half hearted attempts, but it really doesn't bother me that some people are hoarding multiple rook cubimals.

The thing I like (love hate is a bit strong) is the diversity of Glitch.
