color coding signs in /home streets

How about allowing there to be different colors of the individual street signs. And/or extra symbols. Thus, there could be a sense of "routes". A few of us are already trying to organize routes through people's roads. One based on resources (http://www.glitch.com/groups/RHVP8CB5LHP2U8O/) , another just on having a grand tour (http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/17440/).

So by color designating your signs, you could have the red background name lead to the next of the fruit route, the brown to the tree route, etc. Or even have little symbols to so designate. Emergent, self-evolving street networks! With color coding you could be part of several different routes.

Right now, Scarlett Bearsdale and I happened to both hit the same idea and even the idea of both utilizing the bottom-most sign. So it is an emergent idea.

  • As a tack-on, hopefully the glitch-api tool will accommodate these linkages. Can you imagine the really cool map-making programs that'll show these evolving mesh-networks? Even the idea of scavenger hunts or things like the great London tube races  ( http://www.geofftech.co.uk/tube/media.html ) where people try to set records for reaching all the tube stations in the shortest amount of time.
