Partners in Crime

I gather that there are a whole bunch of social aspects to the game that are planned, but we don't have visibility of yet, but as I was playing last night, kissing and mooning random strangers, I started thinking about how could you encourage players to interact with each other more.

There are a bunch of people in the game that I know already from elsewhere on the Internet, but there are a whole lot more who I don't know. Chatting in these forums outside of the game is always a good way to get to know a few people, but it would be nice if the game itself encouraged interactions that otherwise just wouldn't happen. I don't know about anyone else, but I always find it a bit weird striking up a random conversation with a total stranger, but if the game actually required you to go and talk to people you didn't already know, it would be a great ice-breaker.

I was thinking that some of the quests could pair two random players together - anyone who happens to be online at the time - and require some kind of cooperation between the two in order to achieve their goal. They could be teleported to a new location to do this, or perhaps they have to start by actually finding each other in the world.

  • i think it;s a good idea! maybe people could randomly be given a colour/symbol with associated gift/skill which everyone would have to collect by engaging with at least one of each of the total types of colours/symbols. This could maybe be used to progress on a 'social' skill

  • Good idea. Would love the game to facilitate meeting strangers.

  • That sounds like a great idea! Maybe pairing people together to collect items or assemble something. Mini games or puzzles could be cool too. I noticed that the first day I played not many people were interacting, mostly running around picking stuff up!

  • I had a quick chat with someone last night and it would be fun to chat more on a one-to-one basis. Random pairings for a quest without teleporting to a new location might be difficult given that the other player could leave suddenly or lose interest in that quest.

Better to have people form a pair by some sort of visible sign. A torch perhaps or clutching a newspaper or red rose? Or marshmallow dagger?

  • This is a great idea. One thing to consider is that after a quest is generated, one of the players "involved" might exit the game. In such a case, there could be a notice and a request to locate another online player. Otherwise it would get extremely frustrating to receive a quest and have to wait... and wait... and wait... for the other player to get back online.

    Kudos!
