Betas vs n00bs

Hello.
I only started playing Glitch within the last week.  I'm already addicted and I LOVE the game.

I have seen a lot of threads on the board posted by Betas expressing dismay over the direction the game is taking since it was opened up to the rest of us.  I can totally understand this, of course.

My idea (and it may not be an original one) is to have the Betas make a sort of etiquette guide for the n00bs to read.

I know for myself, I had no idea what was acceptable or expected behavior in the game when I started.  I'm still not clear on certain things.  Maybe if the Betas gave us some insight into what they envision for the future of the game, the n00b players would be more apt to follow this vision.  Sort of like a manifesto, I suppose.

If this already exists, then I'm not aware of it and would appreciate a link.  :-)

I know that the idea of the game is creativity, so I wouldn't want the Betas to put a hamper on that.  I don't mean to suggest that they should make a strategy guide or dictate game play.  But rather, a simple guide to etiquette and decorum that would better service the entire world of Ur, on a whole.

I would feel better knowing that I'm not ticking off the original Betas of the game.  I think it would enhance my enjoyment knowing that I'm not inadvertently pissing people off!

Sorry if this issue has already been addressed.
Thanks for reading.  :-)

  • no n00bs have pissed off this beta.  I'm glad to see new players playing and could not imagine imposing any rules on how they want to play.  I don't even like the term N00bs.  There are glitchen I already knew from beta and there are new glitchen that I look forward to knowing.  We all have our own quirks but it is a big world and there is room for all styles of play.  The most important thing is have fun.

  • +1 Artilect!  I'm glad to hear this.  I was worried that Betas were getting annoyed.  I'm doing all I can to assimilate and be a good citizen.  :-)

  • betas who are annoyed are betas who didn't understand what being a beta tester means.

Most of us are delighted to have the game go live, and have new people joining us.

  • +1 for both Artilect and Windborn!

Yeah , we, as betas, love and understand you since before us there were Alphas!!

It is true that there are certain understood "rules" of etiquette but honestly we all learn those acts slowly and but surely ! We all understand that not everyone knows or cares about them so it isn't a biggie!!

Just play and have fun...I think that we all appreciate the freedom that this game entails.

  • The extent of my annoyance with the newbs consists of shaking my cane, creaking my rocking chair, and muttering about the young whippersnappers. And once I left global chat because too many people were asking The Infamous Salt and Wood Tree Questions. XD

I do like the idea of having an etiquette guide, but the people who are interested in that kind of thing aren't the people who are running around being the Downfall of Society, and there's no way to get the people who AREN'T interested to actually read it. So...I think, inasmuch as it's a good idea, it's impractical and possibly a waste of time.

  • I was just telling my husband about this. I have beta tested thousands of community/social games, sites and apps over the past 13 years and it still sickens me how high and mighty some betas get about the new people. As I always tell new people, there's community standards wherever you go, online or IRL. Kick back and observe. The betas should STFU and let people get their feet wet and/or help the new people, which I think is the point of being a beta.

That being said...the people who started the game an hour ago and are in the chat box every 2 minutes, "GIMME! GIMME! GIMME!" Yeah, they bother me. The dude the other day, who just posted, "How do I..." for every little thing. Come on, son. It ain't that hard.
