Large Auctioneers May Have Issues with Sales

EDIT: After receiving a response from the Devs, I changed the title. Original title was:
Stop Selling Item on the Auction House! Seller Beware!

There is a some sort of bug that is not returning some of your items if they go expired. Also, if you cancel said auction, you may get a message saying 'Uh-oh, we cant find your auction. error'. Thirdly, if someone does buy your auction, then the buyer may get the same message and your auction disappears along with your item.

Some of you may recognize me as the guy who typically has 700-800 auctions up at any given time. If you take a look now, I only have 248 auctions going.

Today, for the past 9 hours, I have not gotten 1 item back until about 5 minutes ago.

Please post similar experiences here. I have already submitted a bug report 4 days ago, but have not heard back.

  • We should post this in the bug section. Usually the staff pays a lot of attention to this, and hopefully will give your stuff back. I always have stuff at auction, but can't recall losing any of it

  • Thank you Mandy23, I currently have a post in the bug section. However, considering I am out 300-500K in currants I really am looking for more people to speak up as well. Maybe it's just my account, maybe it's others, but I really feel like people need to know about this risk, and General Forums get more attention then bug for the general user base.

  • I haven't noticed anything like that, and I keep a close accounting of my auctions.

All of my expired auctions for the past week have been returned to inventory.

  • I noticed it during beta

  • Thanks Treesa. Do you know if it was a particular item? Or when someone had a large amount of auctions? Can you elaborate at all?

  • ore.  Anyway, I was told to "get a better calculator" so I dropped the issue.

    Haven't noticed it since.

  • Ouch sorry to hear that. I am hoping that is not the response that I get....

  • I have not seen this happen to me and I keep a pretty close eye on my auctions.

  • It was just a dev comment in the help chat.   Maybe I didn't count it right  I don't know.  I suggested a better accounting system so that I didn't need to use paper and pencil to keep track of digital game play.  I was told to raise the topic in the ideas forum which I did.   Basically I now avoid selling rock in the auctions since then so I don't know if its still an issue or if it ever was a real issue.

For anyone about to suggest raising a help ticket rather posting to the forums I have an open help ticket that has been ignored for weeks.   A similar issue that  involves bean counting - didn't get credited for my large contribution to a street project (or at least didn't get notified and didn't get a tp script for the new street).  Spent a painful couple of hours talking to the devs who were on the help line that night (died a couple of times while waiting) the second one said she'd have to pass it on to a daytime dev for verification once she sorted it out so I should fill out a help ticket.  Spent another several minutes on that and .... never got a response.   Maybe 99 percent of these cases are players miscounting, and maybe they just didn't want to sift through it?  who knows?   I decided just to never work on street project again.    There is plenty of other stuff in the game.
Staff were helpful with other bugs and the amount of xp owed probably wasn't enough to qualify for the top 5 contributers, but again, I suppose I should have had pencil and paper in hand just in case.   Staff don't seem to like sifting through these things (I wouldn't either if I was them) but they need to make the game so it easier to for us to double check our contributions.  Just yesterday I donated some mystery item to a shrine by accidentally mousing over it too hard when aiming for something else.   I never got a report of what I donated (you donated to a shrine!) it wasn't my GNG box and it wasn't my pickle so that was a relief.  Still bugs me though.  A few days earlier I *think" I may have donated a massive number of crystals to a shrine because I *thought* I still had dozens of them and the next time I looked they were gone.

The game is still very new so probably some of these things will get ironed out eventually.   It does bother me a little when I see staff prefer to ignore or sweep something under the carpet if its too annoyingly time consuming to solve.

  • Hoodjack Saken, a couple things about this bug that would be important to add in any blanket warning to the community:

    1) This primarily affects people who are putting up amazingly large numbers of items. You definitely qualify as someone who has put up several hundreds of items.

    2) We are working on the bug this very second, and players who have lost items at auction because of it will receive either their items or currants back as we get more information. This process isn't immediate, as the focus right now is in fixing the bug properly.

  • Blanky,

Wonderful, well thank you for stating that it is seriously being looked at/worked on. I was very concerned that after 4 days of giving updates on my bug ticket and not receiving any response that this issue was considered moot. Plus, I had tried on multi-times to talk to a Dev in live help to ask similar questions like 'Amazingly large auctioneers,' but unfortunately was never able to get a hold of anyone.

So, at this point, now knowing that it may take some time, but it is being looked at, I suppose Ill go around Ur and just give people things or perhaps go questing until all is fixed.

    Thanks Again,
    Hoodjack Saken

  • Had this happen to me (I broke the auction reeeeaaaallll good :D ) and the Devs were extremely awesome at fixing it for me - tho, as Blanky says, it may take a bit of time.
And they also went above and beyond to make sure I got my things back.

I've never had a problem getting help with anything that I've had a problem with - they've always been very kind, courteous and patient with me, even when I've forgotten to remove my temper hat before writing a bug report to them :P

  • Did you just change the title???  Why??  it makes all the responses to your post look out of context and sometimes inappropriately rude.

From now on if I see people change the comment I've responded to I'm going to change my response - and make a point never to respond to that person's comments again.
Posted 14 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Treesa, my apologies. I did not think how one's reply's would be affected, and you are right. In the future I won't change my titles.

My original title was intentionally 'Loud' mainly because I figured that 20 hours or so of gameplay in the last 4 days had gone to waste. Not to mention all the hours prior to my realization of the issue. Once the Dev had responded stating that they really are aware and are really working on it, I no longer felt the need to have such a bold statement.

But in the end, you are correct :)

  • Sorry for my expression of annoyance, but I see this a lot.  Sometimes people  think I have an issue with "censoring" but its more about preserving the record.   The things that bother me most about the game (and for that matter, any website that deletes content) is that it is so hard to go back and verify what was said and done a few days back, what exactly you donated or didn't donate to a shrine, how much favor you got from a shrine compared to what you got a few days ago for the exact same donation to the exact same shrine.

BTW, when I had this issue during beta it didn't involve an "amazing large number of items" but yeah, there were a lot for me - maybe 5 -10 expired auctions in one day...something like that.  The notices would appear when I logged on but sometimes they didn't appear until later, the stuff got squirreled away into random bags and sometimes not (and sometimes that was because my bags were full).   Because it was frustrating, and because it was beta, and I felt a responsibility to give feedback,  I raised the issue in the help chat.    Since it wasn't really resolved (and it might have been just me not calculating things carefully) and its not beta anymore, I just ignore problems that come up unless someone else asks in the forums if anyone else has had the same issue.

  • I suppose I can always just copy/paste the quotation from the person I am responding to in the forum in case they delete or change their comments.  Seems a bit paranoid to have to do that.
Posted 13 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I suppose you could, which you shouldn't have to. I'm sure this won't be the last time that someone changes afterwards...
Posted 13 months ago by Hoodjack Saken Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Okay, so... the underlying problem here definitely seems to be related to high auction volume, but is pretty hard to reproduce reliably, which is always fun when you're trying to debug something...

I've just added a fix which I believe will stop this happening in future, but time will tell whether all the gaps are, in fact, now plugged.

If it seems like things really are better then sometime next week we'll be going through everyone who's been affected by this bug and working out the best way to get your stuff back to you.

Since in some cases there are players who have hundreds of items which are floating about "in limbo" it may be easiest for us to calculate a value in currants for your missing items and reimburse you that way. The "next best" alternative is likely having your magic rock constantly filling your bags with items for ever and ever, which seems... sub-optimal :)

  • Wonderful news!

I will be turning the auction house tap back on either tonight or early tomorrow. Hopefully its all fixed up.

As for me, I personally would just like to work out a currant compensation. Reason being, a lot of auctions are based on current market conditions, amount of items available, pricing and opportunity. Items I lost 2 weeks ago, and even some items from the past few days may not perform on the markets like I had originally intended. Anyhow, that's my two currants on that.

    Thanks,
    Hoodjack Saken

  • I've lost quite a few items and figured it was the nature of the beast.  I also don't have working goggle eyes, can't climb down and only take a picture of an entire site.  Plus who knows what else but I used to get spinach and crushing buffs stuck on on.  I loved those but I guess they fixed those good bugs and haven't gotten around to fixing my bugs.  So if they are doing accounting for lost auction items count me in, but more than likely I will get lost as well.

  • I'm wondering if this happened to me when I didn't get any of the hogtied pigs back when they expired. There were only about 10 of them unsold and, as far as I know, none came back.

  • So an update,

Ok, so the changes def did not work for me. @ 2AM CST I had 507 auctions, now I have 394 auctions, with only 6 expiring, and 1 selling. So that mean 106 auctions of mine from last night disappeared.

  • Obviously it is more  of an issue for people with lots of auctions and huge losses.    People with few auctions will also notice if there is a problem.   Its the ones with average or above average auctions who might not notice if their expired auctions aren't coming back.
Posted 13 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm not sure how they came to the conclusion that the problem was limited to people with an amazing number of auctions although I could see why it would be these types of people who would be complaining about it.
Posted 13 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree Treesa
Posted 13 months ago by Hoodjack Saken Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Treesa why do you say people with only a few auctions would notice if there is a problem?

I would consider myself having extremely few auctions (0-3 per day) and I have never noticed this problem myself.

  • How do you manage to sell such a huge volume of stuff anyway?  I assume it's via the API?  If it's affecting you to such a great deal, you could just take a break from selling (as your initial post suggested)?  At least until it's no longer an issue.  I know the devs said it was possibly fixed, but it's obviously not yet.

They though they fixed it, but couldn't be sure unless I went back to my high volume of selling. Which I did, and then I updated my  my results....

  • Oh, I was referring to your comment of "Im running out of currants."  Sounded kind of serious.  But, if you're ok with being the debugging tool then oh, do what you like! ;) heh

  • Mods, do expired hogtied piggy auctions send the piggy back to your inventory?
Posted 13 months ago by Johnny Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Johnny yes the do. I sold about 100 of them at the same time, so I'm familiar with that.
Posted 13 months ago by Hoodjack Saken Subscriber! | Permalink
  • btw no one has explained how Hoodjack etc are listing so many auctions simultaneously.  Do you actually open hundreds of tabs, prep each one, and then list them as fast as possible?  Or is it via the API?  If it's via the API maybe the bug is introduced through a 3rd party program and that's why it's so hard to debug?

I mean, I'd expect a reliable API, but I wouldn't expect TS to actually debug and support a 3rd party program.

(disclaimer: not that I know anything :))

  • Well, rats. Evidently there are still some cracks that things are falling through. Some of the information posted here over the weekend has helped me to dig a little deeper, and I'll be adding more safeguards which will hopefully help later today.

I'm also working on a way to reimburse everyone who has "lost" items, which should be put into action either today or early tomorrow.
Posted 13 months ago by hitherto Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Okay, so, of the players who've contributed to this thread so far, Hoodjack Sacken, Treesa, MaryLiLamb, sgjo and xoxJulie are the only ones who have some number of missing items floating about in limbo.

For each of you mentioned above, I'm about to kick off a process which will tidy up those items and send you a "fair market value" in currants for them. For the purposes of this exercise, we're considering "fair market value" to be the amount the Level 4 East tool vendor would pay you for the items.

If you're online right now you should get a delivery frog bearing your currants. If not, please check your in-game mailboxes. I'd appreciate it if you could confirm receipt of the currants in this thread. If this process works as expected for those players, I'll be running a sweep of everybody in the world to reimburse each player as needed.

    Ok? Ok!

I've not lost anything since beta and what I had lost then, you fully recovered for me :)

  • I am not sure if I have lost my auction items since I auction stuffs in bulk using the API (like 60,000-80,000 every time) which is quite impossible for me to check them one by one.... :(

  • Hoodjack, I also tried to buy one of your items last week and got the Oops message. Normally it means the item sold out from under you, but it was still there.

Also how did u sell 100 hogtied pigs at 1 time? The captured pigs buff (for lack of better word) certainly wouldnt let u capture and hold 100 at the same time without piggie escape. Please explain. Also, perhaps u were one of the people going thru housing blocks picking up block pigs that neighbors had put out. We kept hearing about people rounding them up and putting them on auction. Lol. :P
Eta: Ah makes sense. Thanks for explanation! Hope they fix it for u soon!

  • Howdy,

I didn't realize that piggies got nerfed, so I logged and saw all these piggies for around 200C. I picked up about a 100 from the auction at 200 to 350C. Then I realized that T.Vendor wouldn't buy them, so I had to relist on the AH. :-0

  • My only question is how this topic, though very important, has been pinned when other equally important posts have not? Players have been begging staff to pin certain player generated topics for months, if not years.
Posted 13 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • One thing's for sure, that pinned topics mean we have to scroll past the post at the top of the forums regardless of who last posted or how long ago. But at least it will continue to remain helpful by warning mass auction sellers until the problem is resolved.
Posted 13 months ago by katlazam Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well, @Blanky posted a staff topic on this issue 2 hours ago, but it's likely to get buried with later posts and people will see this as an unresolved issue. Yes they can do it as a "Hot Topic", but this thread really needs to be unpinned now.
Posted 13 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Fokian, katlazam, I was keeping this pinned for a bit so people who had already been affected by the bug and were missing items could stay tuned to hitherto's updates. But I will unpin this now. The Auctions post I most recently put up was in Hot Topics from the first minute though, so it's unlikely to fall below the fold.

  • Everyone who has items "in limbo" should be getting a delivery of currants at some point in the next hour or so (or in their inbox next time they log on).

To recap, we are reimbursing "lost" items in currants, calculating the value as though you'd sold them to the Level 4 East Tool Vendor in Ilmenskie Caverns, rather than auctioned them.

We know that it's not a perfect solution, but we simply don't have the manpower to examine each individual case and calculate exactly what you might have received had your lost items been sold, so calculating a "fair market value" is the best way we can ensure that everybody affected is compensated.
