Calling All Miners

I know all to well what it's like to have obtained all the Rock you need and not really need any more or even want any more.

But, I have a request.

The next time your mining and you find that you have all the Rock that you need instead of leaving that Rock half Picked how about next time you're mining finish mining that Rock and if you don't want or need the excess just drop it on the ground.  At least that way the Rock will regenerate instead of being half Picked.

Thank You!

  • i think you misunderstand why rocks are left unfinished by some.

  • It seems to me that rocks are left 3/4 picked to grief others so no respawn. Anyone that has been here Any length of time knows the rocks do Not respawn unless mined all the way.

  • I don't remember anyone stating any reason (good or otherwise) why they'd leave a rock nub.  I wish it didn't happen, but I always finish up any I see.  Plus now I have the card that gives a chance at a HUGE rock appearing if I finish it up. :)

  • It is my belief that this phenomenon is a Rookist conspiracy...but I tend to be a bit paranoid.

  • I did it once with a friend, and then never did it again. (The leaving rocks half mined)

  • Maybe people miscalculate how much energy they have, and their energy gets really low before they can finish mining the rock...
Posted 7 months ago by Fergmus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • For a low-level player with a low mining skill, mining a whole rock takes a lot of energy *and* a lot of time, which makes leaving when they've got the amount of rock they wanted (or have finished the quest to mine X times, or run out of earthshaker) make sense sometimes.  It is nicer/tidier to finish rocks, but not a big deal -- if finishing the mining of a rock is small potatoes for you, go ahead and tidy up the nubs you see while on other business.

It seems much more likely at nubs you see come from tired miners and/or people who misunderstand how rock spawning works than that they come from griefers -- that's a really ineffectual griefing method.

  • There's also a quest that tells you to mine so many chunks of each rock (doesn't mean you can't mine the whole rock, but when you're new you're just trying to get that quest done)

  • I usually try to help the system as a whole by completely mining rocks.  The times I haven't include reasons such as:

    Ran out of energy
    Ran out of inventory space
Got an important request for help in chat

RL phone call/person at the door

Don't assume that folks are trying to mess up the rest of the players.  Don't assume that there isn't a reasonable situation that called the person to do something else.

  • I was in Pollokoo and Callopee right before the conversion and I noticed  many half picked rocks on every single street. It seemed so odd. I was hoping I would run across the person who was doing it so I could ask them why, but I never did catch up with whoever it was. I have not noticed it so much in Illemenski.

  • I've noticed a lot since the conversion because mining takes SO MUCH more time before you get upgrade cards.

    Which is totally understandable.

  • So tired of people calling how others play "griefing"  or trying to get them to change to follow the groupthink.  Yeah,  it sorta sucks that rocks dont respawn if left unattended, but no one has the right to tell others how to play.

  • +1 BoyWhoCriedRook it has never occurred to me that leaving half mined rocks would piss people off. What pisses me off is the assumption that every player knows every 'Rule' that is imposed by what appears to be a vocal minority and that every player reads every post in the forum.

Just live and let live, instead of getting your knickers in a twist.

  • To those complaining about my calling some griefers..rofl..we Obviously have a lot of that type in this game give Numerous topics. We don't have Noobs here atm because we're back in beta. The miners leave one pick left of a node Know what they are doing.

It has been made more than Obvious by the "Griefing" type themselves in many threads that they get their rocks off making others unhappy. Beta testers seems like should have the brains to have food and drink with us to compensate for energy/mood. Again..Very few uninformed little noobies running amok atm.

  • Well I didnt know about it and would take exception to being referred to as a griefer. Seems there's far too much complaining about daft things that in the grand scheme of things don't really matter one iota. I say play your way and allow others to play theirs (within the rules laid down in the ToS).

  • Well baby, If Your way of playing is to mine, like Mine is, for my currents and now img...jerks wasting my time with nodes all way down to One pick so no respawn...I consider Griefers.

Again..no noobies in game right now lol...Everyone playing atm has had ample time to be part of Community. Wanna be a jerk? Go back on WoW or a similar grief paradise game.

  • I'm glad I read this topic cause I see a lot of nubs left and I thought maybe it was cause the last 10% was just crap so don't waste your time on it. I wouldn't rule out the griefers idea cause they is some mean spirited people on this game.

  • Goodness. Surely there is far more than enough rock to go around. If you do a circuit of a place like calopee you can de-nub an entire row of streets, loop back, and they will have all re-spawned. Also broken tools may be to blame. Also game time or requirement of specific items to complete a potion may just mean partial rocks mined.
Any automatic assumption that someone is griefing because they don't play how you want to play is being pushy. Not cool, and even though I don't remember ever leaving a nub, I'm more likely to block a moan about griefing than them for nubbing.
Oh and now some of us have the card to spawn extra hard rocks, there is a lot more chance that someone mining alone cannot complete the rock.

  • Please block away, no loss on my part.

  • the rocks do not exist :D

seriously, it's just a game...stop letting these little things raise your blood pressure. It's not worth it.

  • +1 jiva. There is more than enough rock to go around, I've never found a shortage of anything when I wanted to mine, not even sparkly which is supposedly so "rare". OP's plea is well-reasoned and polite, but some of the responses are a little extreme. And yes, there are still newbies in the game: remember people have invites they can give out (or at least used to, before the imagination update). In fact I myself joined about 3 months ago and I've definitely talked to/friended players who joined even later than I did.

  • If you leave the rock others can come to mine it instead of you mining the whole rock when you don't want or need to and others having to wait until it re-spawns.
Posted 7 months ago by bopandsweets Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you are unable to change your mining style to suit conditions (as mentioned above by jiva, mining the nubs and getting the respawns on the loop) then you are NOT WINNING!

  • I don't think it's a big deal in the scheme of things. Mining forgotten nubs gives Glitches a little bit of good feeling as they know they are doing something useful

  • I usually only mine rocks a couple of times. It takes ages and sucks up a ton of energy. People who bother me about this are beyond rude: if anything, it's them making demands on *my* time and resources, not the other way around. I'm not telling them to mine half finished rocks, but they seem to think it's OK to demand that I spend 5 minutes and several times my energy pool mining a rock if I want to mine a rock at all. No thanks. I mean, it's not my job to make currants for you.

  • On "there aren't noobs": although there are far fewer new players right now than there were when we were out of beta, there still are some truly new players, and there are plenty of players who play only briefly/occasionally and don't understand how various things work.  Watch live help for a while and you'll see them.
