+1 for a nice idea :) , currently the quill has limited uses, but imagine having 'cartography permits' so that you can buy maps.
And on these maps; depending on cartography or penmanship level you will be able to a) mark certain number of points; b) color different routes and c) combine with teleportation so that your glitch walks to the destination (not teleport); which way you can enjoy the scenary and not touch the keyboard.
Well, one important thing, in my opinion, would be the implementation of some kind of location history, favorites, or anything else that would help players to remember about the locations, where they have been and their favorite spots. Notes on the maps could be interesting indeed.
That's one of the difficulties for me in the game. I am not very good on the memorization of names but i have a good visual memory (at least better :)). What we can't do now, easily, is to associate names with places in order to establish my own routes. Despite the map helps you to guide yourself, it's still difficult sometimes to distinguish this or that place. Therefore, maybe some wonders, one in each location connected to some quests to be done by players, would help on that too (One example is the quest for the papers which "forces" players to visit the bureaucracy center). Or the names of the regions could be more clear on the map written with big and bold letters. :)
I really like the idea of making the map more interactive.
Favorite places could also be used to tie in with teleportation tokens since it would give a suggested list of places to go with your tokens. I think it would be nice to have some sort of color change or highlighting on the map for streets already visited, but this could only be unlocked for people that have learned a certain skill.
