Does food preparation take less energy at higher levels?

It takes a certain amount of energy to prepare a dish. For example, Bubble and Squeak costs me 5 energy to make (not including the energy I spend getting / making all the ingredients).

Does this energy stay the same as I learn new cooking skills? Or does it change as I level up?

  • What cooking skill level are you at?

Higher levels mean you have a bigger energy tank, which means you can make more stuff before you die/need to refill.

FWIW, I am at level 50 with all cooking skills.  A bubble and squeal cost:
-6 energy + 2xp to make the hard bubble
-4 energy +2xp to assemble all the ingredients into a B&S.

But -4 energy to me, with a tank that holds 2130 units of energy is nothing.  So, it gets easier to cook a lot as you level up.

  • I don't mind the amount of energy.. I'm just trying to put together a spreadsheet, and I want to know which numbers are dependent on level.

Since B&S takes 5 energy for me, I guess it means that it's level-dependent.

Not a big difference, but it makes it hard to have a reliable spreadsheet.

  • Actually, I just checked and B&S takes 6 energy for me to make. What the...

  • now that you mention it, I've got all the cooking skills, and have noticed that while the crafting menu tells me that it should take 8 energy to cook 1 bowl of my famous meat gumbo, it really only takes 4 energy.

  • Oh that's weird. I've been going by what the dialog box says, and I haven't been paying attention to what it actually takes away from me.

FWIW, the work in progress looks like this:
    spreadsheets.google.com/spr...

I've been verifying all the amounts by hand, since the glitch strategy wiki seems to have outdated info.

The energy to process is in column N (E this step). At the top, the energy to gather resources is obviously dependent on skill level (for things like animal kinship) and are highlighted in yellow).

Columns H and I contain total cost and total energy to make each dish, given the input energies and costs.

  • BTW, @katlazam: could you check to see how much energy it says you need to make bubble and squeak? When I look at it, it says 6 energy.

  • blue column values are computed based on the values of the white (and yellow) cells.

  • ok!  the menu tells me that it will take 6 energy to make 1 bubble and squeak.

now to actually fry it up...

grand total, 1 bubble and squeak, valued at 6 energy... at the low, low cost of 4 energy!

(p.s., that @sign does nothing here, you can go ahead and talk to me :) )

(p.p.s. that p.s. was not aimed at magic panda in particular, but rather something that's been building up deep inside of me and chose this moment to tear itself out of my ribcage.  carry on!)

  • Thanks, katlazam!

BTW, when you say "talk to you", how do you do that? Is it done in-game?

P.S. I kind of like the convention of putting @ signs in forum threads. It makes it easy to scan for when someone is referring to a user. But YMMV.

  • ha no I was just making a bad joke, you know, as opposed to talking @me.  don't mind me, I was just having a bit of a 'mild-to-middlingish grumpy about the twittification of the internets' moment, but it passed, whee!  :D
