Boards were down

While I don't see a staff report you'll notice a number of threads were moved to the "off topic" forum. Apparently the stuff shut down public access to "clean house". In fact this move was actually suggested in the "Ideas" Forum.
It means the staff are now able to concentrate on web site and forum issues and less on game issues.
Good job, Tiny Speck!

  • Yes---just what is the " # e c 2 outage"?
Posted 16 months ago by GreyGoose Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well, it was Amazon EC2. (Note: I had no idea what this thing was until 5 minutes ago.) So it wasn't "the internet," just the host that happens to host some heavy hitters (like Netflix and, yes, Glitch).

Apparently, a lightening strike caused it.

    Yes. Lightening downed the cloud.

  • And this is not the first time Amazon has had problems this year. My host wasn't down :)
Of course my server is in Lithuania of all places! Great, cheap service though.
And go ahead and link over, @Ethras.

  • lol LBo. Glad it wasn't the entire internet or down for very long, or I would've gone into convulsions.

  • North Virginia seems to be the outage locus.

  • Where did you get the info for the lightning strike. Nothing on Amazon or Google that I see about it. :(

  • +1 Innie.

I live north of Northern Virginia (NOVA) and all my pigs are affected. Also I lost my meditating and emotive capabilities.

  • Fokian, for someone who claims to have such knowledge and skills with the intertubes, I'm surprised the first thing you did wasn't follow the #ec2 hashtag. (I kid! I kid!)

My "apparently" was because take anything from twitter as fact is sketchy at best.

  • What do you mean? A hundred thousand twits just can't be wrong!

    (Eighty-seven Helens agree...)
Posted 16 months ago by Jennyanydots Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Does that mean the internet occasionally gets a hairball?

  • I did follow the hashtag actually :)
I was looking for something more official.

  • Actually, looking at news it appears lightening in Dublin caused an outage with EC2 in Europe durimg the weekend.  That was down 12 hours.

  • Damn! Amazon and lightning are a bad mix. Maybe they should use my old companies stat mux products :) Lighting hit one and the only thing touched on the entire board was a Z80 cpu that was (literally!) cheaper than dirt. I carried that thing with me for years proudly. :P
