Are emblems a sticking point for most players?

I've only been playing for 2 tests and am currently a home owner at level 13.  (I love my little cabin in Estevan Quarter and feel lucky to have gotten in before the development completely sold out!)  I'm finding that my progress on several learning paths is being blocked by the need for the emblem of one giant or another.  I've generally got 3-4 hundred points of favour from the various giants, mostly gained from achievements.  I realize I need to donate to the shrines, but it seems the Glitch economy is carefully enough tuned that I never have much surplus in cash or possessions to make significant gifts.  So I'm wondering, is this a stage that most players have to work through, or is there a way of achieving the emblems that I may have missed?  This is most definitely not a complaint about Glitch - I'm happy to slow down a while to collect those favour points, but I am curious to know if others' experience is the same as mine.

  • Hawkwell: it is easy enough to make money in this game, you just have to figure out how you want to do it.  I suggest starting off by learning a couple skills across the board and finding something you enjoy to do: cook, mine, garden, harvest, take care of animals, teleport, help others, etc; and then use those skills and abilities to make money by offering goods or services to other players or vendoring and certainly donating the goods you have acquired!

  • I like that there is a hurdle between start and maxing out a specific skill tree.  The easiest solution I have found for this is mining.  I do not take to mining straight from level one because it is much more fun to level up from exploring and cooking than from just mining all day, but if you can get to mining two you can mine gems to get to 1000 favor in about ten minutes.  Also save your musicboxes to donate to favor.  Also if you get an emblem and continue learning those skills you should be able to finish out that skill tree and make quite a bit of money when you get to the next one.

  • It all just takes time..             Be sure and save each emblem as you can contemplate it and get +36.XP..    .I now do this with dozens of    emblems to get XP.                I have bags of emblems that I leave in one place in my house...   each new day I access and contemplate, over and over and over... it all helps to get higher and higher..The goal of the pilot is to stay as high as possible. To get high you have to work extremely hard and systematically.       Some would rather just fool around aimlessly. That is their right.

  • I had that a little bit. Not so much my first round as I was learning pretty willy nilly. But after the last reset, I was more focused and found my self rushing head long and hit the emblem road block on a few paths. But I actually found that good because it made me, if ever slightly, turn to other learning paths while I focused on donating to particular shrine.

(Note: I entered this thread thinking it would be about the hundred emblems in bags at my home. Man, I pray that TS puts in something to use them for soon or I'll feel like an idiot.)

  • Ok there is a number of ways but possibly IMO, mining is the easiest - other than the favour you get from quests and levelling up.  If you have Mining 1 and perhaps 2 under your belt, you can mine and donate the rocks to the shrines.  Sometimes you might get a gem too (chances increase, the higher up the mining tree you are).  I found that my 1st few gems, I sold to boost my currants  and before I got into refining etc, the basic rocks I would keep dumping into in a chosen shrine.

I am just running through this again and my 1st emblem target was for Zille so that I could then set Mining 3 to help me achieve the others by mining.  This way, I will have rocks and hopefully more gems to either donate or sell.  I found that once I was on this path, getting the emblems became easier (I managed 2 emblems on the 2nd day of trying the new account) .

This is only one route, but personally, I found it a much quicker way;-)

Oh and the music blocks, I Ieft collecting them until much later in the game, and donated them as I came across them.;-)

Oh yes, and go to to the Ancestral Lands.  You can pick up favour Quoins as well as occasionally a gem, sno cone etc which again are good for donations ;-)

  • Thanks for all the input in less than half an hour!  It sounds like the emphasis is mining, but I have to admit that so far I have just had no inclination to go down that route.  Also I have donated all the music blocks (3) that have come my way so far.  At this point I'm emphasizing animals, gardening and cooking, and last test I put up my first few auctions of things I cooked.  That seemed to go well, but I didn't keep track to see how profitable it actually was.  Even though I know I don't have to, I like to do all my cooking at home, and, as I moved up that skill ladder, I found I was constantly running out to one vendor or another when some new item was needed for the next step in my progress.  I imagine that soon I will reach a relatively stable level where I can plan and buy everything I need for a major cooking event and then put it all up for auction.  Thanks again for all the input!

  • I have found good value in Peat.  Most players get a shovel early on.  I have made thousands of currants selling peat and have dumped a lot of it into Shrines.  I do like mining though and have made most of my currants through mining.

It took me a long time to get my first Emblem and I did work on that daily.  once I got the first one, It didn't take nearly as long to get the second.

If you belong to a Group or Groups, ask about Emblems.  many players have more than they need and may be happy to give you one.  You can also get one in the Auctions but it might be just as easy to get it donating to a shrine.

  • FWIW, I get enough music blocks from gardening and tree tending to get plenty of favor--so tend that Meadows Garden like a maniac. You might also want to put some time into learning Alchemy and Admixing, as Shrine Powder in either form help a LOT.

  • "FWIW, I get enough music blocks from gardening and tree tending to get plenty of favor--so tend that Meadows Garden like a maniac."

here, like mining, the higher your skillset the better your chances are getting at rewards. But yes, music blocks (and powders and other junk) just from petting/watering/harvesting trees can be a good source of gifts for the giants.

  • Mister Cake just made a point of spending a day or two collecting all the emblems at once. It didn't take that long.

  • I didnt take out on emblem myself the first trip through the skill tree. Most players (including me) would be happy to give you emblems that we have in excess. I know I've got like 30 that I got on accident & don't want :)

  • What Taylor said - I have emblems coming out my wazoo, and always seem to have loads of them, and I tend to use the donations to speed up my skill learning, so I give them to lower level players

  • I got a great deal of the favor for the first set of emblems simply by playing and getting acheivements. With each one, there's a favor reward to a Giant.

Every level-up also includes favor for all the Giants. The more you level up, the more you're going to get favor.

Unless you're focusing on a single skill path and ignoring many of the others, I find it hard to believe that your training options at this point are really limited.

  • Heck, I was starting into my second set of emblems before I hit level 20. Even though cooking/growing/animals was my main thing, I still managed to find stuff to donate. I donated pigs on over crowded streets :) Music boxes were a good suggestion (I still need to get rid of all my duplicates). And I've just donated plenty of Red element from mining. Beryl spits it out in 1000s, and it adds up QUICK!

  • Hawkwell, yeah, part of the challenge early in the game is to earn those first emblems. It can be tricky but once you do it, things start to speed up, and the more skills you learn, the bigger rewards you get. Soon you'll be like, oh my I've earned ANOTHER emblem, not again! (tongue in cheek) There's a very nice wiki site for Glitch that can give you lots of specific information about which items will give you how many favor points; this could be very handy if you want some nitty-gritty details. Some folks prefer to find out on their own, so I wouldn't presume to know which style of play you like.

I don't think mining is the only way to go at all, btw. Here are a couple hints/tricks [SPOILER ALERT if you don't want details] for you:
~more expensive items get you more favor:) If you can figure out how to make some money (people gave you some good ideas in this thread), buy a crystalmalizing chamber (or several) and donate them. Each one is worth 250 points alone, without the following:
~Extremely Hallowed Shrine Powder (EHSP) triples the favor of your donation (sprinkle it by a shrine); Fairly Hallowed Shrine Powder doubles it. You can buy these, sometimes you can find them in the time-limited areas (Choru, Zhambu, Baqala) and you can make them, though this involves the mining/refining skills that it sounds like you haven't done yet. Watch for the powders on auctions.
~A simple to buy item that gets a fair amount of favor is animal eggs and seasoned beans (you can make these yourself later, too, especially with the skills tree you are following). With EHSP 22 tree beans of any kind except wood will get you 990 favor points (wood beans is 16). The number of eggs you need to donate is even less (check wiki for amounts).

    Good luck!

  • I know a lot of folks are all about donating to the shrines to speed up getting those emblems, but frankly, I really don't play that way.  I just play the game, achieve the quests and via that route, as someone else mentioned, I gain plenty of favor to earn emblems.  While Fokian said he was on his second round of emblems by level 20, I know that my method of playing has slowed me down, since I typically don't start earning my first round of emblems until around 18/19/20.  However, it can be done.  I always prefer  my donations earning the biggest return on investment so for me, that was selling items to vendors to earn currants to get things to do things with in game (often supporting my street project habit).

Also, you earn quite a bit of favor if you participate in the street projects. Granted, you don't seem to be able to really do too much until at least level 15 or higher, but you can start small.  The nice thing is that it will give you x amount of favor across all the giants, so even a little bit builds up over time.

I've also seen some favor quoins in game...and especially in the timed regions of Baqala, Choru, and Zhambu.

  • I don't remember what level I was when I earned my first emblem...  But I know I donated whatever I could spare to obtain it!  (I needed a specific emblem to unlock a skill.)  After I had that, I kept learning skill after skill, and eventually took to spending a day cooking, a day mining, a day gathering ingredients, etc.

And then one day, I unexpectedly earned an emblem.  I had to go and find the shrine for that particular giant, but it was still pretty cool.  Then the next day, BAM!  Two more emblems at the same time.  (I was messing with alchemy at the time, so I think one emblem was from Lem and I ... don't remember who the other emblem was from and I'm too lazy to check.)  Really unexpected, but still pretty cool.

So yeah...it seems like it's a stage most people go through and that at higher levels it's definitely easier to earn those emblems/favors.  You just need to keep a closer eye on your favor points with the giants if you want to use your points towards a skill.

  • I'm pretty sure it's more important now that we have the 1511 quest.

Also, Hankwell, loving the new look. ;)

  • Hawkwell, using Extremely Hallowed Shrine Powder will help you boost those points fast.  But all the other suggestions above are very good as well. I've done all of the above.   Also, I sometimes donate broken tools instead of fixing them or i'll donate practically empty jars of fertilidust.  The giants don't seem to care.  One day when I was running through the badlands, I collected a favor quoin that put me over the edge with three giants.   I now have 3 bags of emblems and i use them to boost my mood, energy and XP.   I also give a lot of emblems away.  I have so many emblems that now i find it more fun to donate one bean at a time and listen  to the giants' sarcastic remarks in response to my cheap donations.

  • 1.Time, money and energy are intertwined, in a way..... I make sure to keep my eye on the game day, when it's ending, and run my energy down.... then I leave the game for half hour or hour, go wash dishes, etc... so I come back, its a new day, and the game gives me an energy refill.... One reason things are easier for the higher level players is they have a larger bank of energy that gets refilled, but lower level players can still get the game to give them as large of an energy refill as possible. Then you have more energy to make quoins :)
    2.
Players have mentioned in forums that tools vendors pay more for what you sell them. I always try to sell to tool vendors. I believe it adds up.
Both of these can help a little to gain extra wealth to donate for emblems if you want. I kind of left the emblems alone until they came my way accidently. I guess there's a quest surrounding emblems.

  • I am mostly animal skills and gardening skills. I seem to do better finding music blox from gardening than from animals, so maybe work on the one required for high level gardening first, then just pet ALL THE TREES. I usually turn up at least 4 music blox a day, and I am only level 22.

    I've only been through...3? Yeah I think 3 tests.
It SEEMS slow, but in the end, it isn't really THAT slow. I've had what, 10 days worth of gameplay? I had to buy a Bigger Bag to hold my emblems.

  • @Hawkwell I've earned 5 or 6 emblems, but I also bought a house in which the previous owner left a pile of them. If you want a specific one, I'd be happy to give it to you. Just let me know in game or when the game is open if our playing times don't coincide. It seems to me that they start to become much easier to earn, since I didn't really have to try to earn the last few (before I inherited the pile btw).

  • At first it was hard to progress in skill trees due to the emblem requirement, but once I focused doing the quests and using the skills, the favor increased on its own, without much help needed from me.

  • I found that the first 10 levels were a struggle to get most of the basic tools and buy a cheap house. That is where most of my time and energy went in the beginning. After I had established that, and learned a lot of quick basic skills, I focused on an area I liked and made sure to get that emblem first so I could max out my skill in that area. After I got past that first emblem requirement, everything became easier. I bought a 50k house in Alakol by the time I was level 20. Heck, by the time I was around level 20, I was within 100 favor of getting an emblem for each giant I hadn't donated to. There was a quest to donate to 5 shrines, and I knocked the remaining 1st emblems out in short order donating all the meat I couldn't find other uses for.
