Better Learning V Mechanics

Okay, so, there's always a lot of talk about how Better Learning really functions, and the devs recently added the exact amount of skills that don't add the compounding 3% problem, so I figured with that new information I'd inquire again after hoe exactly this works. :)

So, I know forty three skills. I'm currently learning BLV. When I complete the skill will the new space in my brain REMOVE the 3% compounded five times that I incurred with my previous excessive learning in addition to the extra 8% it shaves off?

Or did I forever increase my learning times by learning too many skills before picking up BLV?

  • I'm wondering about it too. I love the new version:

Now this is what it is all about: with Better Learning V, 37 skills will fit into your brain without slowing it down, and you'll get a mind-boggling 20% reduction in the time required to learn any new skill. You'll fly through the table o'skills like a batterfly out of purgatory.

I'm hoping that it retroactively makes your penalty count start at the 38th instead of the 21st. Only 1 day & 19 hrs left until I find out.

  • Lucky duck. :) I still have something like three days left! I need to get earning for my good buddy Lem. :P

  • I started learning bl v and then I realized I already had nearly 37 skills so I didn't see the point of wasting 5 days on it.   I switched to something else.  I don't know if my starting bl v  increased the time it will take to complete the skill I'm learning now, but why waste 5 days on something that is only going to improve the speed of two or three  more skills?

  • oh, you get another 20 percent reduction with BL V in addition to the 37 limit.

Figuring this stuff out is no fun.

  • I'd invest the time. :) It's like a surprise. We don't actually know the mechanics ourselves, so how much benefit we get will be unknown. If we're lucky we'll finish and discover the skills have shortened a TON. :)

  • Switching's no good anyway... Starting a skill locks in how long it'll take to learn.

It will (if you're over your current "brain limit" of skills.) Once you've started it, might as well finish it!

  • Do each of the individual skill squares count against this limit or just one for the whole the skill line? For instance, if you have all AK^1-4 is that equivalent to one skill or four separate skills?

  • That is 4 skills

Ouch, wish I would have known that.  Changed my mind on some higher level skills and decided to get BL up first, but already locked in times.

Guess you missed the thread on this recently :)

There's details on how the skill system works there, as well as an estimator for how long it will take you to learn all the skills based on your current skill loadout.  Takes all the guesswork out of it!
