Other games similar to glitch?

So this weekend I actually had a little time to myself, but no glitch.   I spent hours looking for something else (yes, I even wen't outside <gasp>) but nothing on all those flash-game portals held my interest for anything longer than 10 minutes.

Is there something I could play that is deep, yet gives me the ability to be the casual gamer that I am?   I often need to walk away from the game, and only play 10 minutes here, 120 there, etc etc.  Glitch is perfect for this type of play BTW :)

  • You might find the Animal Crossing series interesting if you want freeform world building, gardening, and collecting.  I played the DS version for a while and it's pretty fun.  You can breed flowers, catch fish, meet neighbors, plant trees.

If you're more interested in the multiplayer online aspects, and want something more RPG-like, you could check out Kingdom of Loathing (http://www.kingdomofloathing.com/) or a mud like www.3k.org (shameless plug, I'm a somewhat-inactive wiz on 3k).  KoL is turn-based so you can easily put it down and pick it back up.

  • I've been playing KoL on & off for ages now (7 years... that's frightening). I pretty much avoid most of the multiplayer aspects of the game (aside from trade) - I joined with group of friends and over time most have moved on and those that have stuck around are as casual about it as I am or have joined more active clans. Despite the enormous differences, or perhaps because of them, it's a wonderful compliment to Glitch.

The biggest difference is that it's incredibly simple, graphically - stick figures & simple b/w drawings. It's also combat based (but not difficult). I tend to not be a fan of combat games, but the writing & pop culture references got me through it the first few times out and, now, it's more of a puzzle. The combat isn't difficult (esp with a few skills) and so it becomes a question of how to get through the quests or farm for items optimally.

And it's ideal for a 10 minutes here 120 minutes there sort of style... you get a base of 40 turns a day (most players probably get in the 150-200 range with the various enhancements). It's flexible enough that can spend them in 20-30min if I want, but if I've got the time to devote I could spend a couple hours on it (or even a whole day of checking in here & there).

  • Considering that Glitch is on this list I imagine at least one of these games might be what you are looking for while waiting for another Glitch test :

  • I'm trying out fleck right now and it is quite charming. If you try it, try to visit some of the major landmarks like the statue of liberty or the white house.

  • Gave Fleck a quick spin, and it's cute -- and clever idea, using GMaps to avoid world building -- but boring. There's no one around!

  • Mirth, the first thing I thought when I saw Glitch was how much it reminded me of Animal Crossing, lol.

P.S. Devs, this is not a DoS attack.  We're just anxious :)
