A new observation (for me at least) re: Home Streets being the new Ur

I have quite a number of friends on-line at the moment and just had a quick run down them to look at locations and every single one (except for 2 people who are in the ancestral lands) are either in their home or on their home's street.

I mentioned it before in another thread, but I seriously think the way the game is going the home streets and networks they create are going to leave the outside regions of Ur being a distant memory.  I've playing on/off for quite a few hours today and think i only ever came off of the home streets once in order to donate.

Has anyone else ventured back into Ur or is your home and the home streets your new Ur too?

  • I think a lot of peeps are dressing up, expanding and basically creating their new abodes.  I've seen more people venturing out among the worlds...so, in time, they shall all return.

  • I spend more time at home because I'm still setting up lately and accessing it is easier than before, but I frequent Ur because I enjoy it. So for me, home streets have not replaced Ur, although they do make it a bit less important, especially when I'm in a hurry for resources.

  • I go to lots of places in Ur.  Esp for the Sloths and Foxes.  They aren't on the streets. :) There's still stuff to do in Ur itself.  Gathering qrazy quions comes to mind. :)

  • I think maybe I'm turning into a recluse..a glitchen recluse...all I need now are a few cats :o)

  • You caught my alt at home then :) But that's because on workdays I only tithe/reflect, plant/harvest and take care of the animals with her. When I'm off I take more time to play with her and wander off into Ur.

You will find me in Ur all the time though!

  • People pop in and out of their home streets, but I find plenty of em out in Ur too. And now that there's more stuff to do in dead ends and out of the way regions (a trend I hope continues), I also find people in areas that were relatively uninhabited before the new housing came out.

It's just all the new dropped at once so everyone's trying to "get there." Once everyone's caught up you'll see more people wandering about as well.

  • Of course, you are right in that at any given time, a certain (and I imagine large) percentage of people on-line will be at home. But that's good; when the game is out of beta, one hopes that there will be less crowding because of it, with people spreading out more (including home streets) in the increased size of the world.

  • Maybe it's just me then.  I've always been a bit of a loner - I'm already there with regards to upgrading/housing and extended yards.  I just find the game much more relaxing going from street to street and never knowing where I will end up or what I will find (and of course always hoping to never stumble across a dead end).  The mining is absolutely fantastic on the home streets too :)

  • Like they say, home is where the heart is.

But yes, people will probably hit the streets again after everyone's done with decorating their houses.

  • I've done some studies, and I've found upwards of 54% of my friends and my friends friends traveling to Ur at any given time.  I've made a couple posts regarding this.  And here are the results of one of my studies:

    http://twitpic.com/9mgctf

My own routine invariable takes me to Ur.  There are two very good reasons for it, too:  1) There are supplies and resources only available there, including shrines, qurazy quoins and vendors, and 2) Ur is way more interesting.

  • I wonder what would happen if some Rookists now decided to go around Ur and leave lots and lots of Rook Attacks by 12-dicing... at this rate, the Rook would retake everything.

  • I've been out in the world a fair bit, in between decorating. First was to check my mail, but then after that I've discovered how lovely it is in the world when it's quiet.
So many busy with houses that the world is not at all crowded, so I can load most places much faster than usual. Plus harvesting and nibbling is so much nicer when I don't have to dodge other players all the time.
Personally I find resource gathering from my home street fairly boring. I much prefer walking around the world for gathering :)

  • I wonder if a rook attack could be instigated on a home street? I donated my die a little while but might be worth checking out.  I will be venturing forth into the great arena of Ur to seek out a Toy Vendor :)

(edit: for the worriers, I will be testing on the street where my home is located :o)

  • I think WW hit on it though...during the week, many folks who work or have classes, etc. have less time, so they are probably going to stick close to home and their home streets to get stuff done/gathered.  During the weekends and holidays, I think you typically will see more people out and about Ur just because they have more time.  You still have to go out to gather fiber and get snails.  Many want to gather those quoins too. Hopefully in time, we'll have more wild animals to gather other items from which will continue to encourage folks to wander more. I tend to hit the crabs too since they give good iMG (just wish they were more spread out in the world since they clump me on Groddle Isle, Uralia, Ix and Ilmenski, but at least I can run by the tool vendor to dump off excess stuff).

  • Right now, in fact, I have counted 34 out of 100 Glitchen are currently exploring Ur.

  • Mine is approx 7 out of 50 (online) in Ur now - it's rising!! lol

  • I've been spending a lot more time in the world, but I've been expanding and decorating as I can, too :)  The iMG quoins and the new quoin limits have gotten more exploring a lot more, too :D

  • I'm not worried about it at all, by measure of minutes I may be in my home more than I'm out, but that's not measuring my _engagement_.  When I'm actively playing, I'm usually out in the world gathering stuff and exploring, when I'm kind of afkish or multitasking, I'm at home.

The fact that people are spending so much time in their homes is to me a GOOD thing - it shows attachment and investment in the game, which makes for a stronger player base in the long run!

  • If everyone stays in their house that just means more quoins for me.

  • I make it a practice to return to my house if I'm going to be afk.  It allows me to keep track of chat channels without losing energy and mood.

So, while I'm afk, you'll usually find me in my house.  When I'm doing things in the game, I'm usually not there.

  • Sometimes it is better to be afkish out in the world - better chance of getting some RK and less chance of waking up in Hell.

  • I kinda miss being out in Ur - as I am there less. I do wander some home streets gathering resources- it's faster (i think?) . I hope to be out and about in Ur more soon--which will be as soon as I am done tinkering about with my house . (good grief - I am heartily sick of making sdb's - but I will still be making more of them-until I have enough... ! )
So ..um yeah , I am home alot ,decorating is time consuming (for me anyways) and yes i do use the house routes some, and I DO miss Ur... and to me , it does feel a bit lonely lately as my friends list usually has the great majority of my friends at their home or their homes street at any given time.
I agree, I think , for now, the home streets are kinda the new Ur- only major reasons I go to Ur are : Tool Vendor, Donate, Mailbox, Ancestral Lands , Foxes , and SLoths. ...:)
I don't know if that is a trend that will persist - or if it will get better once glitchen are all settled at home or not ...... ;)

  • I am spending FAR MORE time in actual Ur than I had in months. I use (and am part of) the HRR, but am in various areas of Ur tons now for the iMG :)
Posted 7 months ago by foolbunny Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I shall still wander Ur a lot... but right now, I still am in the process of getting my house still set up in a basic way that will make it feel like home until I can get more expansive with it. So for a while, I may seem to be in my home an awful lot as well. But I find I wander Ur a lot more now than I did before the new housing, since I have more reasons to need resources for building it up (more resources than I would get from my street).

  • I spend significantly more time in Ur than in my home/home street. I do use my home to pop in and out of but don't spend large amounts of time there unless I'm decorating or using machines to craft furniture.

There is simply more to do in Greater Ur than in the home streets.

  • I've been going to the AL, wandering Shimla Mirch for Peat and Jellisacs, visiting the Enchanted Forests, and visiting Fox Preserves. If I hadn't done that then I wouldn't have been able to find the last 4 of my DNA and all those nice Qurazy Quoins.

I spend a significant amount of time in my house tinkering with the layout and cleaning stuff.

  • I, personally, love that people are spending so much time in their homes and their friends' homes. No one gets in the way of my snapshots then.

I do start each day taking care of my and a friend's garden and animals, so you could say over time, I'm spending less time in Ur.

  • A measured response
    from people who venture to
    far-off districts

    I cannot agree
    that there are comparable
    players exploring

    Hotbeds are where they
    flock to; Pollokoo, Tahii,
    all quite deserted.

    Bortola: silence.
    Callopee -- mayhaps one squeak
    Ghosts occupy them.

  • I enjoy venturing out into Ur.  I do find it more difficult to do this however.  I have so much to do at "Home" that often I am too tired to go anyplace else when I finish  :(  When I do get out it is usually to buy seeds, chop trees, gather fibers or snails or Bog resources.  Sometimes I mine and gather Guano.  The old days of just leaving home to see people and places has almost become a memory.  I hope that I will be able to enjoy Ur more in the near future when once again we have Quests and new Skills.

  • No, I think I've noticed this too. Most noticeably the mining spots in Callopee and Pollokoo are so empty now. Mind you, this is not necessarily a bad thing!

    @Aumir... that's an interesting thought ;)

  • Don't worry. Once the world opens up to new players again, it will be full of Glitchen on the streets of Ur. So full in fact, you will miss these days immensely.

  • I've actually been out in Ur much more recently than I had in a long time, gathering housing resources and finally completing my icon set. (I haven't touched the HRR at all.) However, now that I feel mostly done with these goals, I'll probably go back to a primarily homebody lifestyle, stepping into Ur only to visit the tool vendor.

  • I think a lot of it has to do with the new home streets/housing being the new shiny thing. I mean, look at when potions first came out, firebog houses were being snapped up left and right and the community herb gardens were always busy, then when most people got their main badges/quests done for herbs, a lot of the traffic and need died down. And there's a lot more customization with home streets, especially for setting up resource routes and such. (Heck, immediately after the housing release, jellisiac growths and mortar barnacles were going like crazy, and now that's died down quite a bit.)

I think once the majority of people get used to the new housing, we'll see an increase in general Ur traffic again.

  • I've been wandering Ur in search of resources and Qurazy Quoins. I need the iMG if I want any more upgrade cards, but I'm unwilling to donate to shrines until there's a learning boost (I've got no skills left to learn right now). I also am shy one ghost...

  • I think it is just because homes are new right now -- so much to do! But we will back to our Glitchy neighborhood streets soon enough -- especially because we have to go out and get the resources to upgrade our houses.

Also -- per gimmegames above -- I LOVE QURAZY QUOINS. And foxes. And sloths. And new streets. And old streets.

  • I think we're all freaks too... by which i mean we've gathered a ton of imagination and STUFFF and have made massive home streets with more sparkly than we can shake a dusty stick at.

Normal players won't have nearly so much space or imagination, they'll need to go out and gather  and explore,  I think!
