First Day Progression

Well, I got my Glitch invite a while ago but just had a chance to sign up yesterday and start playing today.

So far, I'm Level 9, have one of those 30k 2-floor modern houses in Kajuu which I spent most of the day grinding C$ for, with about 2000 C$ left over, got a garden going and I got equipment for milking butterflies, feeding/harvesting pigs just have to unlock a couple extra skills before I start.

My current skills are:
Animal Kinship 4 (working on 5), Soil Apprec. 2, Light Green Thumb 1
Cooking 1, Mining 1, Meditative 1
Better Learning 1, Bureaucratic 1, Tinkering 1

I heard some talk about skill-planning but I figured it would help to spread my skills out a little to try and be as self-sufficient as possible.

I really wasn't sure what to do at first but I figured I wanted one of the big houses so did that and I want to finish the Animal Kin tree and get a butterfly/pig herd going and from there I'm not really sure.

I haven't died yet, once I realized I should raise my Animal Kin a bit I've been getting enough meat to keep me energized and selling the extra.

I like how you can play Glitch all day if you wanted to but the energy/mood system kinda forces you to play smartly, at least when you're starting out.

I heard something about fighting Rooks?  I don't know if that's an end-state goal for Glitch or not.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions lemme have 'em. ;)

I'm not sure what I want after I max Animal Kin but I like skills that maximize your gameplay and efficiency.  I'd like to be completely self-sustainable if possible with energy and mood too I guess.

I'd like to be able to make more C$ without having to do brain-numbing things like grinding teal keys or something.  I assume Animal Kin 7 will be somewhat profitable but I'm not there yet so I don't know how much.

  • A Skill tree that goes really well with Animal Kinship is Cooking. Puts all that meat & milk to good use. The more you cook, the more recourses you will use so the Gardening Skills are also useful. Plus Croppery, if you plan to grow your own crops (the Produce Vendor sells all the crops too).

Fighting Rooks is a nice bonus, but you won't be able to do very much without Piety or Martial Imagination.

I recommend you get to know the community! Because Glitch is hardly about Skills. Keep an eye on Global Chat, maybe lurk a bit in Live Help (I always learn something new there). Hug a stranger, attend parties, share your experience. And when you're out of things to do I recommend the Sandbox Group (search for it in Groups).

  • If you're going the animal route then you will find it hard to lose mood or lack for something to eat. I rarely cook anything nowadays and have meat coming out of my ears. Supplement it with Gardening and you can stay in the comfort of your home chatting with friends and waiting for your crops and harvesters to do their jobs with the occasional supply runs to supplement your stocks and to sell produce.

Or you can spend the extra time wandering Ur and petting, harvesting, watering, etc. everything along the way.

I am a far cry from being rich, but then again that's not my end goal in Glitch.

  • Thanks for the tips!  I figured cooking or something like that would be a useful output from my Animal stuff.  I have been making some cheese plates already.

    I'm not worried about being a mega-millionaire, I just want to be self-sufficient. :P

I guess I mostly want to have spare cash and be energy-sufficient.  Right now since I'm starting out I have to keep an eye on energy and cash, although harvesting pigs gives me 3 meat right now so that's 6 energy used for 30 energy returned so I'm doing alright.

  • I went the AK/gardening/cooking route.  I think it's a very fun way to approach the game.  A lot of people think mining is good currants but I don't enjoy it that much.  By the time you get to AK7, you have tons of milk, meat, and grain and get a lot of music blocks from chickens that you can sell or donate.

  • Nice going on your first day!

Regarding skill planning, make sure to take the Better Learning skills pretty early. I think many players regret putting those off when learning really slows down. (I am level 21 and I will soon have to spend 2 weeks on BL5.)

I took the cooking skills first because I enjoy cooking and I am self-sufficient but too lazy to be rich. I also think it's fun to able to do a bit of alchemy and tinkering on the side.

  • I also had the goal of being self sufficient when I started and you're on the right path.
Getting the better learning skills should also be a priority, it sucks sinking all the time into it now but it will most definitely pay off in the long run. Use extra meat as donations to speed the learning time!
I would suggest joining the Glitch Strategy group also, for any/all questions or tips someone is always around.

  • Firstly, welcome to Glitch and the world of Ur! Sounds like you’re off to a cracking start with your own individual agenda and focus going on. Kudos to you.

I’d like to echo what’s already been said here: taking Animal Kinship as far as you can in as efficient way as possible stands you in good stead to learn the other skill trees that require a bit of time.

When I started, I maxed our AK first of all. That allowed me to sustain my energy through Mining as I learnt that tree second. After that, and with one of the longest skills (M4) out of the way, focused on Better Learning and Tinkering. With all those trees maxed and with both of the ‘big’ skills done, I moved on to the personal development of Meditation and Teleportation. The rest didn’t matter so much because they didn’t have ridiculously long skills to learn in order to max them out, and I was already totally self sufficient with regards to how I personally played the game.

I’m due to start my 85th skill when I get home from work. I left the entire cooking tree until last because frankly it doesn’t interest me that much. In getting the achievements for those skills, however, I’m starting to warm to this skill line and actually quite like it now.

    Good luck on your journey!

  • Hmm. I would offer you a place in my ring, an easy 1k per fight, (win or lose), but ... you look a bit scrawny.
