Why Go Back to The Beginning?

Inigo Montoya lost to the masked man, so, as Vinzzini instructed, "he said to go back to the beginning."

Well, we all know Vinzzini was a bad guy. So, it makes me wonder, why does everyone need to go back to the beginning? Why a full reset when beta is done?

An alternative reality would let new players come into a well functioning world. People have houses, skills, and are ready to welcome in the rush of new players and provide loving support rather than furiously mining to make the money to buy their best houses. Depending on the number of new players attracted to an always on always open Glitch--this could be great. If invites to the new game are to trickle out, my brilliant argument loses alot of steam. Also, players would need to log in during  the first week of the game opening out of Beta or lose their status to keep their stuff. That way you can clear housing stock.

Who's at TS is the Giant who gets Inigo Montoya out of his drunken funk?  Just a different idea.

  • i knew i loved you. quoting the princess bride to say what i was trying to figure out how to say?

the "glitch test" for me will be whether i come back after a reset. all the threads about awesome/awful/feedback/addiction- they're all full of wisdom. i really appreciate dev feedback about what is coming post launch, but bottom line, we'll have to start over, and i'm going to have to be REALLY into it to start over. at this point, i'm not sure if i'm REALLY into it.

on the other hand, i would almost definitely keep playing, and possibly pay-to-play, if i could keep going from the spot i'm at. not because i care about level 21 or my house, or any of that, but just not to have to repeat some of the dull stuff, or the 9 days i put into learning each skill, etc.

approaching the reset, i feel like someone is saying to my beloved glitch: "prepare to die!"

  • I can't answer your question Mac, but I have found myself kind of looking forward to the reset. I've been thinking about my strategy and wondering which house do I want to buy first, which skills to go after etc. I think it will be good to get a fresh look at the early game. This will be my first reset however, so I'm sure that there are a lot of early alpha players who aren't as enthusiastic.

    ps Love Princess Bride!

  • Riverwalker, I'm doing the same thing.  But then again, I've been murmuring "nonattachment" ever since I was invited to the game by an early alpha player....

  • I love you Mac, but I think I disagree.  <3 the Princess Bride though :)

I am actually looking forward to a reset because I know exactly what I want and what path I want to follow in order to get everything I want from the beginning.  Like Riverwalker, this will be my first reset, so I'm sure those who have experienced more may be less willing to face yet another reset.  I feel like now that I know aspects of the game I know what I want to do and I can start out working towards the things I want.

I also think its only fair to the new players that everything is created equal.  It would be unfair to new players to come into a world where all the best houses are taken and they basically would have to begin from a disadvantage.  I have heard of a lot of players who are dying to get into the game during the testing phases but have not gotten invites yet, so there are people who want to play now but are unable to.  Out of fairness to them, it would make sense to have a reset.

I can completely understand where you are coming from without wanting to reset (loosing skills, badges, and trophies would be soooooo frustrating) but I think in the long run it will be worth it, at least for me it will!

  • Laurali, I think you and I must have been invited in and around the same time, because this is exactly how I feel. I'm excited to start over with a clean slate, now knowing more about what to do.

But at the same time, I'd be bummed if there were more than one reset coming up... Hoping for just one!

  • I thought I read somewhere when I started beta (so we're talking mid-May for me) that we'd get to keep trophies already accumulated.

  • @WhizGidget

    No trophies.

We just discussed it, and yes you can keep the bunnies :)

And back to the original question, everything gets wiped except:

    • your avatar/customizations/owned clothes
    • your credits balance
    • your name
    • your profile (anything you've filled out)
    • your friends list
    • a few custom/special items (yeti and bunny, so far)

  • No, I get all that stuff. And I have said it multiple times. My idea was to have advanced players already in game to have new players in a well functioning world rather than a race.

    Inconceivable?

  • The race will be largely done by the end of the first day.  I always plan on racing, but get distracted after 5 minutes.

  • Hahah @Mac: "Inconceivable?"

It's a cool idea, I'm not sure if its possible or not, but those people that want a reset can reset and those that don't can stay in game.  They would have to make additional housing, etc available so those that are just starting or going through the reset would have just as much opportunity to get the houses they want!

  • I completely agree, Mac and Greenkozi ~ restarting is a daunting task and how I'm keeping a "non-attachment" to the game, which also prevents me from buying a year's subscription.
