Master Gardener and Potionmaking III

Master Gardener and Potionmaking III skills have been released. (In addition, 3 new potion recipes were made available to those of you who know Potionmaking II: Embiggenifying Potion, De-Embigennifying Potion and Trantsformation Fluid).

The two new skills work together well: there are 5 new gardening potions which are made with Potionmaking III  — but you can’t use them unless you have Master Gardener. There’s a potion to harvest an entire garden with a single pour, and likewise potions to clear, water, plant and fertilize all at once.

Since these are both high level skills and will probably take you a while to learn, we imagine some of you will be choosing one and some the other and there will be some buying and selling going on :)

The sixth potion for PM3, Draught of Giant Amicability, gives you 111 favor with a randomly chosen Giant, but you can “shake” the potion three times a day to switch it to another Giant.

Have fun!

  • These are so great! Thanks for the fun, guys! :D

ps. did you mean to spell tran(t)sformation with the extra t?

  • Yep … in the office, we call Glitch's magical combination of trees/plants "trants".

  • :D That makes sense!

  • while I am glad something was done to help gardening, I am disappointed it is a potion.

Now we have to waste time either gathering the elements to make the potion, as well as the time in making the potions.  Or waste time in the making of currants to buy it.  Why couldn't it be upgrade cards you buy after you learn master gardener?  Cards that add a option to clear/water/plant/etc/etc an entire plot?  Separate cards for the separate options so it's a bit of work.  But then after the work is done you get to enjoy the options without extra time wasting stuff forever and ever.

Again, nice you have decided to do something.  Just doesn't seem the right direction.

  • "gives you 111 favor with a randomly chosen Giant"

"thus granting a modicum of favor with all giants at once."

    Which one will it do?

  • Thanks for the new skills (even though it will take me a long time to learn them), and I'm intrigued by the introduction of potions to do this, rather than bots or upgrade cards.  I personally like that it takes work to get bonus things like this instead of it just all being gimmes from upgrade cards.

  • I love it!  Going to take me forever and a day to learn both of them, but it will EVENTUALLY be worth it!

  • I'd add the extra "t" to my name but I'm already at the character limit. =P

Excellent work.. and I look forward to using these skills!

  • Gotta say my initial reaction is very "meh".

Unless you just buy the harvesting potions, it looks like the grind of gardening has been moved, not reduced.

My issue with the current grind is not the overall length, but the RSI / tedium. If "hoe garden" still took 60 seconds that's all fine wiht me, just save me the 40 key presses (no, not 30, since lag / desync / "leisurely activity" leaves me banging away....)

  • These skills really rock! had all 101 other skills and still managed to decrease learning time for master Gardener to the maximum speed in less than an hour! 4 more days :D

  • Did Trantsformation Fluid change to only be used in "housing locations"?
Because I see Spice and Gas trees in Groddle Forest, yet I can't use my new potion.

  • Whoo-hoo!  My limited learning strategy pays off - I will have PM3 on Sunday 8/25 at about 8am - about 1 day and 9 hours from now.

  • I love watering-its a good thing since I have not learned any potion making stuff yet. I have NO idea how long it will take me to learn PM3.

  • oh thank you thank you thank you for the gardening potions!
I waited a long time for em!

  • Hurm. The description of PM3 implies that it is needed for MG but the MG description doesn't have any dependency.

I agree with Tibbi and Sturminator: meh. I can't see filling my brain with this if it is only going to turn two-three dozen clicks and about a minute into oh, say, ten dozen clicks and several minutes to get the same results. I like the Upgrade Card route, too: I can already get upgrades to reduce hoeing and watering time.

  • Rosencrantz: Correct - Trantsformation Fluid will work only in housing locations for the next couple of days, while its effect on trees around Ur is getting "sorted out".

  • I think it's neat that they're potions. I never thought having it be super-easy to hoe/water/guano/etc without some kind of tradeoff made sense. This way it is now, people who have problem with the lag, etc have a recourse. For those of us who make our currants with gardening, I'm sure buying the potions will be a currant investment like guano (i.e. buying guano can totally be worth it monetarily and I anticipate the same with the potions.) For those who are only having problems with the lag - not sure if it would be worth it currant-wise to buy the potions but I expect that when things quiet down a bit (people get the skills, potions stabilize in price) it'll be fine.

  • Draught of Giant Amicability-- even with 11 uses it's worth more donated (EHSP) than used. kinda like yellow crumb essence.

Plant, Water, Harvest, and Hoe potions all specify "nearest garden" except the fertilize potion, I assume it is for 1 garden? Or is it more like Fertilidust?

Also, regarding the fertilize potion does it take off 50% or 90% of the time? Can we pour twice and have it go to 90%?

ETA: Assuming dung-kicker is per garden and works like guano it's either 79 or 96 per plot for all the potions at list price...which will be the high water mark once the market settles.

Posted 4 months ago by Biff Beefbat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, I was surprised to accidentally plop a bubble tree in Jethimad last night :D Probably once things are sorted, they will only trantsform into the trees/plants suitable for the region.

One thing I've noticed this morning, I only get the trantsform menu on my own home street and not on other players' streets (good!), except for on wood trees (uh oh). I didn't test actually pouring 'cause I didn't want to mess up anyone's street, possibly it would have errored out.

  • The big/small potions are fun, but I wish the effect would last longer, like maybe the time you're on that street. Right now the effect goes away in just a few seconds. =(

  • One thing that I wish was different would be that the pre-req for Master Gardening was Herb3 or Crop3 instead of both. I planned on never learning or doing vegetable gardening (and cooking) and speciaizing in herb gardening (and potions/tinctures) but now I'll have to crowd my brain with useless (to me) skills that I'll never be able to unlearn, in order to learn and use Master Gardening.

  • Do these potions replace the gardening robot idea?
Posted 4 months ago by glum pudding Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And the drunken kangaroo idea?
Posted 4 months ago by Electric Wizard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'll learn both skills but I probably won't use the Gardening one. I will just sell the potions I make. As mentioned above, it's still a bunch of steps to achieve something, only done differently. Still would prefer one or two clicks and waiting several minutes for the action to complete. The repetition is bothersome. But thanks for continuing to expand the game.

  • is it possible to get the recipes/ingredients of PM3 and MG potions? I want to add them to the GlitchRemote calculator...
TIA (note: I already added PM2 potions)

  • I'm sorry, the develpers' inside joke on the Trantsformation name just doesn't work for me. Most players will never get that, and it's not an otherwise cute, nonsensey joke.

  • Did anyone already mention that with the PMIII, that it is saying that Tii is the secondary giant when you donate, but the skills page shows Tii as the primary giant?

  • I can't tell from the description of Dung-Kicker Drops whether you need to have Guano in your inventory for them to work. Do they come with built-in two doses of Guano or do you still have to buy or harvest guano in addition to using the drops?

ETA According to an update by moucri, it takes 50 guano to make DKD. Each use of DKD adds exactly one dose of guano to all the plots in one garden, so you have to use two doses to get two guanos. Sigh, not really much of a benefit there except if you have a large-size herb garden and a lot more currants to waste that patience w clicking.

  • Hmmmm... kinda underwhelmed at the idea of having to use so many potions on each garden to automate it.  I've switched to the Potionmaking one as doubt I'll be using the Master Gardening one...
Posted 4 months ago by Cabinwood Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Cabinwood: you'll need Master Gardener if you want to use the new gardening potions. From the OP: "... there are 5 new gardening potions which are made with Potionmaking III  — but you can’t use them unless you have Master Gardener."
Posted 4 months ago by Flowerry Pott Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I was excited to see new skills to learn until I saw that Master Gardener was dependent on random Upgrade cards. :(  So right now I'm learning the very, very much longer Potioning skill.
Posted 4 months ago by Marla Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Now we have to waste time either gathering the elements to make the potion, as well as the time in making the potions.  Or waste time in the making of currants to buy it.

-- instead of wasting time gardening.   What I hear you saying is that those parts of the game is a waste of time.  Perhaps it would be simpler if you just didn't do them at all.

  • Love the new potions, tho am a tad bit disappointed in the ones for gardening.

Was hoping for a garden-bot...one that we could possibly build and then have to keep maintenance on every-so-often (depending on how much they'd be used)
Posted 4 months ago by sgjo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i have to agree cabinwood: the fact that it takes multiple potions on one garden is not really worth it. i have to believe that is faster, easier and much less of a chore just to continue to garden the way we do today. IMHO the new gardening abilities are less-than-stellar. it should have just been 5 different skills you could learn to automate the gardening skills versus having this weird potion combination w/ skills
Posted 4 months ago by Snowpuff Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Flowery Pott, yep I know that!  Going to go into the potion selling business :)  And then finish off Master Gardening and see how it all works together...
