How do you make currants, fast? Also how do you get XP?

Currants- I know that mining works well, but it's so slow! Sparkly is the only thing worth mining. It took me almost 3 hours to make 20k the other day! I know nibbling/milking/squeezing is good too, but its the same slow problem!

Note: I have Mining 5 and Animal Kinship 7.

XP- I have no idea. Is sauce the only way?

  • And, I always want currants, but don't want to just do this all day! Mining is sooooo boring, same with animal collecting!

  • Make awesome stew. Sit at uncle friendly's, make stew, sell it at the tool vendor. You can easily get many multiples more than you get from mining in the same amount of time.

  • Step one: Have fun
Step two: Get the cubimal monkey off your back
Result: Keep most of your currants!

  • A 2 hour experimental stroll through Groddle Meadow the other day, squeezing and harvesting everything in sight netted me over 50K at the tool vendor.

but I can't help thinking you're doing something wrong  if you can only make 5k an hour mining sparkly

And, for curiousity, why do you want a lot of cash

  • Want GNG, Funpickle, Icons, Rook, Rube, Dolls, etc. All that expensive stuff.

  • I walk from my house in Alakol to the tool vendor in Cebarkul and nibble every piggie I come across. By the time I get to the vendor I have 20-30k in currants. It also helps to squeeze chickens and pet/water trees because you generally get a lot of musicblocks and can sell those for another 5k. I make a quick detour to all the crabs in the forest and get another 2-3k. It doesn't take much time, it's just a little tedious.

  • I do the travel and gather thing, usually in groddle forest as it has the heaviest concentration of resources. I use every resource I come across (except dullite/metal rocks). Cherries, beans, and bubbles are selling at auction at @1000 per 250 stack so don't sell those to vendors. I end up with tons of music blocks and meats to sell to the hardware vendor. Also, don't sell bundled grain, bundles are worth less than the grain they contain. I sell when all my bags are full and can net 20k to 30k in just an hour or so. There's no way to get the stuff without putting in the time and working for it... just like in RL. =)

  • Actually there are "Currant Trees" but you can't plant them :D  Just climb the trees and look for the coins.  that won't get you a lot of currants.  If you want currants fast harvest every tree you come to and immediately sell the harvests to vendors.  Also Harvest peat, catch Fireflies, scrape Barnacles, scoop Jellisacs.  These actions may not produce a lot of currants each but if you do this a lot you can become wealthy.  I make 3,000 to 5,000 C in about 2 hours or less when I do nothing else.

  • Sparkly grinded + smelted metal rubbed into molybdenum = grand ol grinders - ie just one example of how to get much more currants by combining skills and 'tasks' than straightforward selling of sparkly alone. Juggle mining, harvesting and ancestral lands (both for large currant and energy quoins) and ... well, without trying to sound like some kind of efficiency drive ... but you'll find it a lot easier to build up currants! Anyway, that's just one tip. Good luck! :)

  • For XP - donate your crafted items, and get large amounts of XP that way.  If you are mining, make 10 - 20 crystalmalizing chambers and donate them using EHSP.  You will get the XP from the mining, the smelting, the grinding, the rubbing, and the crafting, plus a large amount when they are donated.  You can also donate cooked items like Awesome Stew or Tasty Pasta this way.

Speaking of cooked items, they're another great way to make money.  Pick a recipe you can make that you can buy a number of the ingredients for, and that takes a certain number of steps to complete - eg, for Tetrazzini you can gather the spice, meat, fruit, and grain (or for Awesome Stew you can gather the meat, spice, and beans) then buy the rest of the ingredients (or used hoarded garden produce - but your garden won't keep up if you are making large batches repeatedly.)
Selling the finished dishes will still net you a good profit, and you make a good amount of XP as you gather the ingredients and make the components.  If you donate them instead of selling, you get even more XP.  Takes about 3 hours to make a large batch (250 - 750) but the profit margin is large and you will find yourself well ahead in XP afterward.

Of course, all this will change with new vendoring rules and Imagination.

  • I've got to recommend the crabs for both. Drink Crabato Juice before you play your musicblock for the crab, and you'll get double the rewards. If you're lucky, you can make 1,000 currants and gain 500xp by doing virtually nothing. I know it feels lazy...but it works!

A list of crab locations can be found here. Two of them (three if you count Oktyakabra) are right next to each other, making for a really easy trip.

  • To get XP, get in the game and PLAY. There is no XP for being a merchant in the forums.

  • I mine to get cash, but I dunno why you're getting such a low amount from your returns if you have M4.
I always make molybdenum bars and never sell raw ore. If the timing is right (close enough to end of the game day) I'll use no-no to grind (and rub) and save my flaming h's and food. One sack of moly is about 25k, plus gems, I usually net 30-40k per session (usually a few hours).  All of my xp comes from the mining, smelting, grinding and rubbing. Also, I use rubeweed consistently, and that helps my gem load.

  • I make Expensive Grilled Cheese.  You can wait until close to the end of a day and sniff no-no powder twice and get enough 'free' energy to make four large bags of cheese.  On alternating days age some of these bags of cheese into Very Stinky Cheese.  Cheesemaking is 'free energy.'  It's a way to store the burst of infinite energy from no-no into something tangible you can use or sell.

Use Remote Herdkeeping to gather the milk.  Buy or make buns.  Make Creamy Catsup.  The only things needed for that are tomatoes, more milk, and salt.  So plant only tomatoes, do spice runs a few times a week and if you like to make your own buns squeeze a lot of chickens.

You get something like 30-40K per bag for expensive grilled cheese, and they're also good eating.  You only need a limited number of cooking skills, so can skip learning the pot and Awful stew, with it's hundreds of beans, complicated combinations of garden vegetables, etc.
