Feature Request: Inventory Automation

I feel like the joy in this game for me is how many things you can do simultaneously. Working on three different things at the same time that are feeding off of eachother is quite addictive.

Unfortunately this requires a lot of inventory management that sometimes covers up a unique aspect of this game. It can be a platformer at times and a bit of automation would help it give the option for a faster paced kind of casual gameplay and let you concentrate more on the feel of the world, in all its weird and sometimes creepy tranquility. So here is my idea.

I would like to suggest a system for setting which bag an item will go into immediately after getting it. It's easy enough to drag an item to the ground to drop it and pretty intuitive too. So instead when you double click it could allow you to place the cursor over a bag which would have a  blue glow indicating you want to link that item to that bag. Clicking once on the bag would then seal the deal.

The association would be by name. So if you bought a new bag with more space and renamed it "Plants" none of the associations are removed, and the same items automatically know to go to this bag after the other one is full. Of course while no bag is in your inventory with the associated name it's business at usual, if you choose to make a new association it will overwrite the old one. Just one way to keep the game a bit more free flowing.

  • Oh I just made a post about somethign very similar but didn't notice this one. +1? I'm not sure this is the best way to do it, but some kind of automated organization of the inventory is needed with the way it is structured.

  • Yeah still good ideas but don't judge the number of replies here
It's mostly because ppl are tired to reply to this I guess ;)

  • It'd be nice if you could customize the look of bags. Maybe that idea could be extended.

If you choose a pattern with a tree on it, maybe all harvestables go in that bag by default.

If you choose a pattern with an animal on it, maybe all animal goodies will go in there.

If you choose a pattern with a potion, potions will go in there.

    So on and so forth.

That said, I wouldn't mind more colors and the ability to change an existing bag's color (via dye or just an option in the menu for the bag to do so...)

I'd also like the large bags to be as colorful as the small bags. I hate that the pink on the big bags looks so faded and worn out, while the small pink bag looks so bright and vivid.

  • I like the idea of customizing a bag with a pattern and having that decide what items go in a bag, I think perhaps that's a better idea than mine so thanks Lorraine.

I had the feeling that this had been suggested before, but not being able to find a thread like it prompted me to start my own.

Maybe they just haven't found a way to do this that fits in with the direction they want to take the game. Maybe we could just brainstorm as many good ways to do this as we can?
