Ur is Dead, Everyone Stays on Private Streets!

I think that there should only be decorative objects allowed to be placed on the 'public' parts of people's home streets, so to encourage folks to go out into Ur to do a lot of their gathering. Otherwise nowadays everyone farms various private single-resource routes and are never out and about anymore. =(

That makes Ur as a whole kind of pointless now, which is sad.

  • Shrines and Quoins are still only in Ur and Ancestral Lands receive plenty of visits!

  • If the game goes out of beta and we have a lot of new players, having the home streets sopping up a lot of them could keep Ur from being overcrowded.  What makes me sad is that some streets tend to be less charming places than Ur Streets.  Even the Home Streets that aren't maxxed out for grinding are less cute because we are more limited in design.

I tend to gather on Ur because it's fun, grinding through an optimized route of home streets feels like work.

  • I don't know, it seems like the streets of Ur are already being somewhat revitalized by beta invites being open. It seems like I see people on the streets a lot more often then I did a few months ago because of people exploring for badges and whatnot. And slightly less then a year ago, the streets were feeling overrun in places right after opening! In short, I don't think they're entirely out of the running yet, what with the way gameplay and population shifts around.

  • I wonder whether requiring that quests be fulfilled from items gathered in Ur rather than home streets might help get glitchen out and about and seeing the beauty of the world.

  • I'd like to say that this doesn't really reflect my experience. I still gather in the world instead of on streets and I run into enough people that I'm finally making a dent in my RK collection.

  • Before invites reopened, the game population was less than 10% what it was at launch.  Why anyone would expect to see the same type of traffic with 10% of the players is beyond me, but the streets seemed no more empty to me after housing than they did before the R1 release.  The population decrease confounds any attempt to pin traffic reductions on home streets.

The things I use routes for are bog materials, as home streets are now much more effective than the bogs, and the trees that I used to use housing quarters to gather in one place.  I am on the public streets almost as often as I was before.

And it's a false dichotomy: home streets are Ur.  They're certainly not Kansas.

  • I don't think restricting what we can have on our streets is the right way to tackle any percieved undercrowding - what I would like to see on some of the quieter areas is the introduction of more 'special' animals like sloths and foxes... I would love it if Roobrik and Balzare had monkeys in the trees, or if there were little moles or rats scurrying around in Callopee! Now that the housing blocks have gone, there are some regions I hardly ever visit as I can get what I need elsewhere in Ur, but I would go to them more often if there were creatures to tempt me :)

  • The streets are undoubtedly emptier than they were before.  I haven't seen such an empty Ur ever in all the time I have played Glitch, but that is because of a variety of factors, so it can't be pinned solely on routes. I do think routes have had a sizable impact, but I see it an opportunity to re-think public spaces in the game.

I would hope that a more robust narrative will take place on public streets, vs. being confined to one-off quests such as the faded heart quest, or rook attacks, or the jabbering of rocks and trees as it has been before.    There are so many ways public streets can be used now, to me an empty Ur is like a big juicy blank page.  Of course, if you are in charge of filling that page, "juicy" might not be the best word to use! :D

  • Have you been to Groddle Forest lately? It seems almost as crowded to me as back in Jan-Feb before the population really dropped off. I think a better solution to getting more people back in Ur is to offer more things like foxes and sloths that only live in specific regions.

  • Grackle is saying what I am saying: the population of public streets dropped off back in Jan/Feb, before the R1 release in March.  So you can't pin the traffic reduction on home streets -- it's much simpler and makes much more sense to blame it on the overall population dropping.  As I once said elsewhere, blaming the traffic reductions on home streets rather than the population drop is like moving from Manhattan to the Yukon and thinking you don't see crowds because the weather is bad.

Both Groddle Forrest and Alakol have been doing just fine since the game reopened.  At my two regular haunts in Alakol, a steady stream of players is continuously coming through.

I'd like to see a redesign in the bogs though.  Right now, the street with the most jellisacs has 16 of them, about 1/3 the jellisacs found on a home street maxed for that resource.

  • Another possibility would be to make harvesting resources in Ur "richer" than those you farm on a home street. That would give an incentive to get out and about more.

  • In truth I spend just as much time in my private home as I use to spend in my, still private but not entirely mine because I didn't own the street, home. I really only ever use private streets if I've ran through Ix entirely and am in need of a large amount of spice. Other than that nothing has changed.

  • Its not just because of the streets that make glitch dead .... I get bored waiting for new skills when they take a week or more to complete. I do miss the days, tho, when we all had to go out and explore to get resources.
