Feedback Forum

I was thinking maybe a 4th forum, or a subset forum might be a "feedback" section.

Some one (glum pudding?) mentioned that we are testers, and my understanding is that our feedback is encouraged- ideas, and bugs- obviously, but also how the game plays, "feels," etc. Some one posted a few pages ago about how the game wasn't for them.

Sometimes chat feels caught up in why the game does or doesn't work in a particular test, and it seems like this might be good "feedback" rather than general? I don't know... It might encourage this kind of more dicey stuff to stay on the forums?

  • I have to agree. I think we need several new forums, including a Questions/Help forum specifically for people to ask questions, and I think that General should be split into General (miscellany) and Meta (topics related specifically to the game but aren't really questions) forums. We might even want a New Players forum for people to introduce themselves and where there could be a "sticky" topic at the top with a breif guide for new players (many such guides already exist!).

  • This forum already works for both feedback and questions and general convo. How is there a problem here? In my experience, multiple forums tend to fail, wherein everyone crossposts all sorts of things to multiple forums, regardless of what the forum is supposed to be about. Or, more staff is needed to maintain order. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

  • I've often seen replies in threads from staff members.  Seems to me that they're reading the forums pretty regularly.

  • I  couldn't agree more with   zeeberk.     when in doubt - keep it simple!      I find Glitch to be perfection and it only keeps getting better....My mind boggles at some of the petty criticisms but this is a free world and everyone gets to put his oar in...

  • There's no problem here, per se, but I've often wanted to talk to my fellow Glitches about stuff completely unrelated to the game but that I figure they may be interested in. I don't want to have to leave this site and go to one like Glitchbook to do so. For instance, I wanted to ask fellow geeks on Glitch about X-Men: First Class. Not just any geeks, but Glitch geeks. Or Marvel in general. Or take my scary movie thread, for instance. I love that thread, and the fect that it's here on Glitch, but I can tell it breaks tradition from the standard thread you'd see in the general forums.

  • Trying to herd people into a lot of different forums takes staff time in closing threads and enforcing the "topic".

Right now, the number of posts is manageable and we don't have a lot of cross posting.  Well, except that the clothing ideas thread seems to be in the General forum.

I'm not sure what advantage the devs get if they start devoting their time to forum management instead of game development.

You might try starting your thread here, and then, if there are enough people interested in on-going discussions, start a group where the thread would be more on-topic.

  • My thought would be don't start a new group or special forum... we are awash with them and miss a lot of info because it's spread all over the place. I have several points I want to make and I haven't got a clue if they have been mentioned or not - so I'll just post away in the general forum.

  • Glad you set up this thread green,as I've been pondering some questions/observations etc,and have no idea, where to
post them, none of the current threads are suitable, and making a new one just to make a statement doesn't seem like
    a good idea either;for example:
When you look at the outside of the new Alakol houses, they all show 2 story houses ~the top level shows a window, and the front door is on ground level, but the inside of the houses don't match up with that. Now that's not really a topic that can be (productively) discussed,so posting it in the general forums would seem a wasted effort, and since it is merely a 'cosmetic' flaw, it really doesn't 'belong' in the Bug-Section either...

  • @ScillyGirl5

It may, or may not, be a topic that can be productively discussed.  The testers who frequent this forum have proven their ability to turn anything into a discussion.  Sometimes the most amazing ideas come out of those discussions.

However, even 'cosmetic flaws' can go in the Bug forum.  Why would you think that TS doesn't want to know about typos and image errors?

  • @WindBorn, Hi! =)   While I like the idea of sharing little observations such as the one I mentioned earlier, I really don't want to bug them with things that seem a bit 'nit-picky' when they have so many big things to worry about.

  • I'm sure they're capable of setting their priorities so that the big things get taken care of ;-)

Then, later, all the little things are collected in one spot, rather than having to go to another forum and scroll through on- and off-topic discussions looking for the comments about cosmetic bugs.

  • @windborn- i think that the kinds of thing scilly mentions were what i was thinking about, that feedback would be more limited in scope than "general," exactly to things like "cosmetic flaws," or how someone "feels" about a game. there's tons going on in general, going way back to the beginning of alpha. i thought the feedback thread that someone posted was very interesting, but i personally would have been a little hesitant to post my feelings in general as (for the most part) it's kind of a chit-chatty place going back and forth about new features, how addicting glitch is, etc.

  • I agree with zee. There is an active community in the current forums. People know where to go. I know I check the top of the forums when I get into game to see if there is anything "pending." There are groups to have specific convos, but they have generally not had much legs (Glitchodone clinic is the exception). Creating more threads leads to people being unable to track "what's going on." More threads will become chambers full of crickets.

I agree with you @greenkozi that the current system is imperfect. But the concentration of conversation is what makes this a good way for TS to get feedback with the added side benefit of building community.

Also, I know this will not scale to a huge game, but the future group lodges and market as well as mail systems (altho 20 currants does seem like highway robbery!) will fill some gaps.
