I like to say this is amazing. That I could have a chance to buy the only collectible left I want. But of course I do not have 3 million currants rofl!!! One day yeti you will be mine. Until then I might just buy me a shirt with you on it <3 rofl I wish there was a way to buy currants with my rl money.
I am feeling rather frustrated by all of this, because there is no way I will ever be able to earn enough to buy a Yeti, or even the Broken Cubimal for that matter ~ and no, no need to lecture me on how some can make a gazillion currants in x amount of hours, and if only I played right, so could I. I am not a savvy player, nor am I a shrewd business person, nor am I blessed with abundant good fortune, I tend to make up my short comings by being thrifty, if there's is something I really want, I save up for it and/or give up something else in order to have the cash to buy what I so desire, unfortunately that is not an option here, as all Special Items will be sold by then.
Kukubee said (in another thread) 'Because staff is paid in currants! We need currants!'
This has been rolling around in my head ever since I read it, and the bottom line is: yes!
TS employees need to be paid!
So then -in my mind- the question is: Why am I, the customer, not being given every and all
opportunities/tools to pay TS and it's employees RL currency?
Why is there no way to buy in world currants with real world cash??
eta: @ Queen Zipporah: Thank You lots for asking why there was no option to buy currants with credits, I was beginning to think I was alone in thinking that. =)

You can help them by being a subscriber (I see you're already one)
~Scilly~ wrote: Why is there no way to buy in world currants with real world cash??
Because it will be an advantage for people with a lot of extra RL cash, and those who don't have that luxury, will start complaining and currants don't play a really important part in Glitch, only having lots of fun ;)
Oh, and I think there is a rule saying that trading virtual goods for real life money is not allowed.
Now... from looking around on different websites, I found out that there are tens of thousands Glitch players playing (not counting dormant accounts/inactive players)
If even a quarter of them was paying subscription money, TS would get enough money to pay the dev's.
I don't have a lot of RL cash, but like I said, I will cut out one thing in order to have the other,
eg: I gave up a 'one-pack-a-day' habit in order to have the cash to spend here, and that is something I can do,
but there is absolutely nothing I can do about anything that requires what I would call 'dumb luck' (such as
getting a Rube cubimal from a cubimal box, for example) all I have is a fair bit of time, and the desire to pay for
what I want.
I absolutely do not see how buying currants with cash, would be unfair, I have earned this cash in RL, and I'd
like to spend some of it here in game, and buy some of the in game things I feel I will not be able to earn
any other way.
That aside, not everybody has the resources to pay for a regular subscription, but may be able to put in the
occasional 'tenner' to buy currants to buy something s/he really wants;
and it doesn't have to be a matter of getting currants for RL cash per se, but there could be a way to use credits
to buy currants instead of clothes for example.
Rutger, I beg to differ, currants are indeed an important part of this game! How else are you going to have the joy
of 'owning' a Yeti?!
I don't understand why you mention 'trading virtual goods for RL money is not allowed', buying virtual currants would
be no different from buying virtual upgrades.
I understand 'trading virtual goods for RL money' to mean, if someone acquires/achieves something of in game value,
and then goes on to get the cold hard cash (or credit card number) from another player, ie this other person pays him rather than TS.
'trading virtual goods for RL cash' ~I have read that bit in ToS, and this is how I understand that paragraph,
I'd welcome an explanation, if I misunderstood. TY.
~Scilly~ wrote: Rutger, I beg to differ, currants are indeed an important part of this game! How else are you going to have the joy of 'owning' a Yeti?!
Yeah... maybe I didn't use my brain enough in this part :P (let's forget about what I said there)
~Scilly~ wrote: I don't understand why you mention 'trading virtual goods for RL money is not allowed', buying virtual currants would be no different from buying virtual upgrades.
TS uses credits as a legal way to buy virtual goods with RL cash.
It's not allowed to buy something virtual (like upgraded furniture or a yeti doll) using currency other than credits.
EDIT: Obviously, you can't buy credits from someone with RL cash...
If it's still not clear enough.. I would gladly explain it better :)
Ta Rutger, that's what I thought, I just included everything/anything that by-passes TS, not just credits.
I could have worded what I said a bit better,
~I'd like to have the option to use the credits I bought, legally, from TS, to buy virtual currants instead of
virtual upgrades. It could be a 3rd option, to 1)Wardrobe and 2)Vanity; and it would be on the real world
side of things, rather than in world.
We all can and do buy virtual stuff (like upgraded furniture) with a currency other than credits, when we use
currants to buy/sell from one another, like in auctions, or player to player trades. =)
~Scilly~ wrote: We all can and do buy virtual stuff (like upgraded furniture) with a currency other than credits, when we use currants to buy/sell from one another, like in auctions, or player to player trades.
And that is why TS gave us the opportunity to make our own furniture and upgrade it with credits (AKA real life currency) to sell it for currants (AKA virtual currency).
~Scilly~ wrote: I'd like to have the option to use the credits I bought, legally, from TS, to buy virtual currants
I get that part, but TS isn't stupid, and they have thought about your idea; because almost everybody loves to play a game without too much trouble and difficulties.
But think about this situation for a second:
If TS had this 3rd option, people would buy lots of currants, and with lots of currants you can buy a lot of things. So if this was implemented in-game, and TS would release 10 rare items in-game, those items would be bought the minute after the release.
Those who bough it decide to keep it OR sell it...
- Those who keep it might keep it because they like the item; because they are one of the 10 people who has that item; or for other personal reasons.
- Those who sell it, will put up a hight price, (what is logical, as there are only 10 items in the whole game and because it's a special and rare item) so they can earn a lot of virtual money without spending real life currency.
With this 3rd option, the value of the virtual currency will be so low, that we will end up with an economy crisis as we're in today.
What I'm trying to say, is that this option will ruin the fun of working for an item; it will ruin every value of any item in-game.
There will always be someone who has more money than you, and will be willing to buy your "oh so special" item. And even if you decide to not sell it, I can tell you that everybody has a price tag meaning you will lose the item eventually...
EDIT: Will think about putting my opinion about why adding this option is such a bad idea.
On a side note: if anyone has an extra million currants laying around and would help a fellow Glitchen in getting the million currants trophy, I would pay you back 1.5 million (or name your price) if you buy me one :D (I, obviously don't have that amount of money at the moment, so I will gather it slowly over time)
@Scilly I'm sorry, but I vehemently disagree with being able to purchase currants with RL money. I was worried when the ability to sell credit upgraded furniture for currants came about as I thought people would use their real life money to buy currants, which can be translated with only a bit of friction into energy, goods, or imagination in the game. And while there's no 'winning' in glitch, buying your way to advancement of your character is still a bit wacky to me, as someone who doesn't have the RL money to purchase in game cash :)
My go-to example is the favor boards :) I reign as queen of the Grendaline worshipers, and I donated primarily goods I made myself and secondarily those I bought with currants I made by doing actions in-game.
Another player could usurp my position by paying say, 100$ for 10 million currants (Not sure what ratio you're proposing) and going to wintry place and buying approximately one bajillion purple sno cones, which they could donate once per game day to Grendaline with EHSP, that they could also purchase with currants, at a rate I could never hope to match.
-1 to the idea of buying currants.
Here we see a fundamental difference between Glitch and other games. TS has made the conscious decision to make less money in order to provide a better experience for everyone. I think it's great to play a game that you don't have to be rich (IRL) to succeed in. If you want to buy your way through a game, Glitch isn't the game for that. Here, your success is determined by how much time you're willing to devote to the game, as it should be.
TL;DR: Thanks TS for putting player experience first.
Well you all have your own opinions. I stated how I felt and what I hoped, we all have opinions. No one is right or wrong because of our own ideas. I don't hoard currants and because of it. I will never get a yeti. I just wanted to throw my own wish out there.Because if buying them was a option, I would be able to. So yeah I wish I could use my rl money so I could get one. If you don't like it, you are entitled to your own opinion. I do play games where I buy what I want and I am spoiled with that. So what:P Hi5 Scilly!
I would argue that, maybe not with such short notice, but in general you would be able to sell furniture upgrades very successfully to buy almost anything you wanted. People have certainly done it, if that's how you wish to go about things. It requires a little more time and effort than a straight conversion, but arguably less time and effort than strictly earning currants through in-game means. Just a thought! I think it's a reasonable compromise, although I rarely use my stipend for it myself.
My only worry about being able to buy currents with real money is that a few of the "wealthier" Glitches would be able to buy up collectibles like these and then scalp them to others, taking away the chance for regular prices to earn and get them at vendor prices. Maybe if there was a one/person limit this would not be an issue.
wait, wait... did somebody use the words "economic crisis" to describe the state of some people not having the ability to buy five very expensive and statusy but functionally useless items?
it is my theory that the only reason there's a permeable barrier between currants and credits at all is that when subscribers spend cash money for furniture that they own, they expect to be able to dispose of that property as they see fit.
they can't realistically let us upgrade furniture and not let us sell it, and i think that's why this is available.
a while ago stoot also said something about making it possible to turn credits to img to currants, but not without friction. this would be that friction.
no matter how you slice it, though, you still have to play the game to get img or currants no matter how many furniture upgrades or teleport tokens you have.
It's trivially easy to turn currants into iMG (snocones, for example, among others). It's much harder, if not impossible, to turn iMG into currants. That's an interesting non-symmetrical gradient.
It could be argued that almost every upgrade you buy can help you make currants faster and more efficiently. Indirectly and only true as long as you have upgrades to buy, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the theory behind it all.
I do suggest in the future that TS run an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenIPO style auction over 30 Ur days or so. This will ensure there is not simply a mad rush leading to "first past the post" declared winners, while also maximizing the currant sink effect.
I'll post more details in an Ideas forum post shortly
I know someone has worked out the amount of currants that these rare items have sucked out of the game. Given that makes a huge number of glitches a lot poorer (in currant terms) a thought occurred.
If the Devs turned off the vendors ability to buy stuff from us - then i can see,no way that "new" currants could come into the system - other than quoins and whatever new players get. It would mean that the glitch economy would have an almost instant devaluation.
The upgrade cards only affect how much something costs when bought from a vendor. So vendors may still sell some basic items but perhaps they will stop buying stuff. This would really close the economy down.
There is one "buyback" card which might be literal - that is, vendors might only buy the basic items they uniquely sell, for a lower price.
The interesting thing is that if that did happen, there would be huge deflation.
One consequence is that all these players now buying rare items and justifying it because its a good investment are counting on inflation. But if a huge deflation is coming then the best thing to hang onto is currants.
www.glitch.com/upgrades/per... applies to all items, as far as I've seen. I now get 82.5 percent for all I sell to the tool vendor, rather than just what he sells.
