EZ Bake Oven

So an idea popped into my head. EZ Bake Ovens!

No actually here's what happened - I was reading a comment that Cupcake left on the forums and was like... cupcakes... oh, EZ Bake Ovens! Ironically, Cupcake herself instigated a thread about ovens but it was from a couple of months ago at least, so I thought I'd bring it up again.

I also read a thread that discussed a blockmaker type machine where you could cooperatively use an oven to create things. But maybe a mini-oven that is portable (and only one piece, not four) would be cool for a whole new skill-set! Maybe even you need Engineering as a pre-req, who knows! But who could resist the ability to craft an almond croissant or a three-tier cake (perhaps the final learned recipe)?

  • WhizGidget, I'd never seen cookingforengineers.com before - it's awesome! I've always subscribed to the school of food as art and science, especially when it comes to baking. Glad to hear you like the combination!

  • I had the same idea!  I think it's a good one.  :)  There are few desserts in the game, but all of the necessary ingredients.  They would certainly be popular gift items.

  • Glad we're on the same page, Glum! I didn't even think of the potential sharing aspect (although you're right - even in real life, desserts are a very popular gift) - I like it!

  • Well, I'm working on my butter churn graphics right now, but I can throw in an oven. Maybe even a wok. Their animations should be easier than what I' doing for the churn, at least the oven anyways.

  • Yes yes! I wanna bake! Maybe use elements to make the leavenings? Ice and milk for a Baked Alaska?  Hooch and spice for vanilla? Bubbles and eggs for soufflés?

  • I love this idea!  I've added this to a Furniture discussion where I think it would be cool if you had an oven that could make large quantities of food.  It would be nice too if there was a time aspect to it (like in real life where the cake has to bake 20 minutes or so before you eat it).

  • +1 to this new tool and to the baking skills branch of the tree

@Folderol OT: you probably are already aware of this but your comment made me think the magazine Cooks Illustrated, since each recipe they feature gives you the big back story of what went on in the test kitchen, discussion of the problems inherent in that dish, the science-lite behind the cause behind those problems and changes made to fix the problems.  I like getting that little extra bit of understanding of what is going on in the food as it cooks.

I want cheesecake! But they'll have to introduce a new ingredient- sugar. And chocolate, maybe.

  • Sugar and chocolate!

It'd be cool if there were kitchens in houses where cooking costs less energy and where you could have an oven (I find it unrealistic to carry it around all the time).
Love Homura's idea about the time aspect too. Baking could be a much less accessible skill, meaning the products would be much more exclusive. Sort of like in real life.

And the idea of a sugar rush! It could make all your movements more fidgety or increase your walking speed by a small percentage. Would there be a sugar crash too? That might be a little too much like the crash you get from no-no but there are a million options (like decreased walking speed).

  • i don't know that it's any more unreasonable to carry around an ezbake oven than a mike tyson grill or a gassifier ;)
