Whimsical Wednesday - Houses Release 3

The game is now open! Check the new thread for feedback: http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/20792/

------

The game is currently closed until sometime Thursday morning, Pacific time. The conversion process is running slower than anticipated, and we want to make everything goes just right, so we will not be open until we are ready.

------

Good morning campers!

Today brings release 3 of the new housing system, marking a full reset of houses.

The game will be closed for a few hours while we perform the reset
.

Do not be alarmed! Only houses are being reset.

After the reset is complete, your house will have been reset to the starter size, with no cultivated items and no furniture. Any upgraded furniture in your house or your furniture bag will be removed. You'll be given a small set of starter furniture in its place.

When you enter your new house after the reset, any items that you had in your old house or your testing house will have been moved into your new residence. Just unpack your moving boxes to get started.

A single moving box will contain multiple boxes for the old house, your test-house home street, test-house backyard and each floor of your test-house.

So that's what the reset entails, but what about new stuff? Well...

Furniture can now be crafted by players. Get building!

‌• Your new houses will now have their own web page, linked from your profile. You'll be able to easily visit other people's home streets from there (as well as from their "info pane" in the game client).

Once you've chosen/purchased a furniture upgrade, that choice is 'sticky'. If you upgrade a chair to style A, then switch it to style B, you'll later be able to switch back to style A at no cost. The same applies to your house chassis.

The initial furniture we give you is soul-bound. This means you can't give it away to other players. Other items may gain this property in the future.

Furniture can now be traded - either by using the 'give' verb, dragging it to another player or using the player-to-player trading system. You'll get an extra warning when you try to trade upgraded furniture. Auctions for furniture will be added in the near future.

Furniture should no longer drop through the floor when you're placing it on your 2nd floor. Or your 3rd - houses can now be 3 floors tall.

All street styles now have music.

Furniture items all have their own web pages, as do the upgrades. You can browse and bookmark your perfect setup while you're waiting for the reset.

The furniture bag is now sorted, to make finding your furniture easier. And it'll now be accessible anywhere in the world, to allow your to trade your items.

The old houses are fading away. Visit the abandoned apartment blocks to reminisce.

There's probably some more stuff hidden in there too, so take a look around, kick the tires and lets us know what you think.

update #1: The housing FAQ has been updated.

update #2: The reset is taking longer than expected - the game will be closed until Thursday morning, pacific time. We are being EXTRA careful with the migration since no-one wants the movers to lose a single precious item.

  • For the UK: Probably more like 5pm. 8 hour time difference- 5pm = 9am.
Posted 7 months ago by Shmack Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Arabesque: 2 PM in the UK would be 6 AM pacific time, so I'm thinking it'll probably be a little later than that.

I hope I'm wrong, though!  I'd love to get some Glitch in before going to work tomorrow morning. :-)

  • OH NO!!!! Thursday morning Pacific time....means....yikes  not till Friday??? if I sleep Thursday night. TWO WHOLE DAYS without Glitch, since I couldn't get in yesterday. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. all ready going through Glitch withdrawal after only 1 day.

Better to have it take longer and do it right than try to rush it and have it wrong.

    *sigh*

  • (((HUGS))) Bees! and the rest of the devs.
Time to go catch up on all those programs I've been ignoring :-)

  • Just to say, thank you Bees! for all your forum monitoring.
Thanks to TS for what I'll call a much more engaged and transparent communication strategy than in past changes.
To the rest of you, I'll just say this: Are you just completely stoked?
    I know I am.
    See you in the morning!

Much love to the TS devs, Bees!, stoot, and to all the people I so enjoy in Ur.

The new world is coming.  How good does that feel?

  • Ditto, Crash!

  • I feel the pain of people who took time off work to play today. I'm in the same boat (so I have to catch up extra work tomorrow). It reminds me of the old First Beta days, when this happened all the time, so it's mostly kind of funny. I should have known when GOD started talking to me and I heard Good Night Groddle ...

If past performance is a good indicator of future results, it'll be worth the wait.

  • +1 for porches, basements, roofs, windows, ladders, ropes, etc...  And tapestries would be a nice wall decoration.

Question: Will there be a limit to the number of furniture items we can put in our house?  For example, can I completely fill my house with SDBs?

Do you think the TS devs will ever get a break from all the hard work of updating?  Like, ever??

  • Bees: can we please have a forum button that will take us to the last post in a thread?  It gets silly having to navigate to the end each time.

Plus ice cream.  But button first, then pistachio.
Posted 7 months ago by ☣ elf ☣ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh yeah, a button to navigate to the last post would be awesome!  I have been wondering about that for ages!
Posted 7 months ago by Kirnan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, but then ice cream.

A button in the list of forum threads would be good, plus maybe one up top in the threads themselves.

    And then....

  • "Will there be a limit to the number of furniture items we can put in our house?" - nope

"can we please have a forum button that will take us to the last post in a thread?" - good idea, yes!

  • For hopping to unread replies I use the forum enhancement extension described in this thread.
ETA: I think it's only for Chrome. and the next suggestions from Carl P. and  Zoethor2 are excellent (but I really like the forum enhancement too).
Posted 7 months ago by Aleph Zero Subscriber! | Permalink
  • elf, when viewing the list of threads, simply click on the name of the person who posted last.  It takes you right where you want to go!
Posted 7 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you're in the main forum (General) and click on "last post by" it will bring you to the last post in the thread.

I only figured this out a few days ago.

  • Your diligence in making this work amazingly is appreciated. Where can we FedEx coffee or have mt Dew and have pizza delivered to? (no seriously, if you want a pizza I think I just bought one by way of recently updated subscription. Stoot, you better get that started!)

    Love you all

  • Thanks for all the updates and answers, Bees!
Much rather you guys took your time and verified everything (even if I did already tell hubby it was self-serve dinner tonight since I'd be Glitching).

@Aleph Zero -- I was just thinking how much more like old beta was. Play for a few days to a week, and then hope the downtime was ONLY one week.  LOL

  • yes, last name, right...i do recall that now...

but, we need button so then we get 2) ice cream
Posted 7 months ago by ☣ elf ☣ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Elf - In the forum, click the name of the person who last posted, rather then the forum title, to go  to the last post.

  • ah ....12 pages already!

Exciting news!  I'm only worried that the items I placed in decoration mode vs the items I dropped in regular mode might be buggy.    No doubt someone has asked about that already.

  • "If you're in the main forum (General) and click on "last post by" it will bring you to the last post in the thread." - woah! i forgot i did that

  • Bees: related to "underline ALL the things!"...

It seems that there should really be an Alot in this game. Possibly an alternative to Emo Bear for those who feel about bears the way Stephen Colbert feels about bears? I feel that the Alot should be given really long earlobes. Lobed Alot (Allotus Lobicus). Please pass this on to kukubee's suggestion box.

http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html for those of you who are, at present, making wtface.

  • I think the idea of shake-able honey bunnies is BRILLIANT.

With, of course, the caveat that everyone knows that bunnies are evil creatures with sharp pointy teeth, which you would have to get past before you could shake them for their honey.

  • "What about the animals?  Will they fade away too?" - they'll be in your moving boxes

I love this!  I can imagine those boxes jumping.  Not only did I have pigs, chickens and Butterflies in my front yard, I have piggies and chicks in my personal inventory.  That particular bag has been moving for 3 days - Lol!  Just like senor Wences, I open it occasionally, say "S'allright?" and their little clucks and oinks seem to say "S'allright!".  Thanks for the hard work and Update!

  • Wow, the estimated time just went up tremendously. I think TS might have underestimated just what truly awful hoarders glitchen tend to be.

  • I think the "tomorrow morning" thing is a giant trick. Remember when stoot said Imagination wouldn't be for two weeks and it was the next day? What if this "tomorrow morning" thing is like that? Maybe they just want us to stop breathing down Bees!'s neck. Don't fall for it! It's a trick!
