Seasoning Cookwear (like a Fancy Pick for miners, but for chefs instead!)

It seems that every-time I use my saucepan it breaks (hyperbole, I know). However, it'd be cool to be able to 'season'  your pots (through lots of use) that makes them break less. Like a Fancy Pick for miners, but for chefs instead!

Regular Tool (Unseasoned)
Any new cookware
~20 uses each time before breaking

Lightly Seasoned
Needs to be cooked in 100 times to become 'Lightly Seasoned'
~40 uses each time before breaking
-3% energy per recipe made
+3% to experience per recipie made

Seasoned
Needs to be cooked in 300 times to become 'Seasoned'
~55 uses each time before breaking
-4% energy per recipe made
+4% to experience per recipie made

Heavily Seasoned
Needs to be cooked in 600 times to become 'Heavily Seasoned'
~70 uses each time before breaking (or it 'never breaks', which I prefer)
-5% energy per recipe made
+5% to experience per recipie made

When a tool 'breaks' it doesn't go back down to it's former level of seasoning, meaning a piece of cookware you've used for a while now becomes highly valuable (just like in real life with old cast iron cookware, etc).

As a heavy duty chef it annoys me every time I have to go fix a piece of cookware, but if they could break less I'd be so much happier (and I'm sure I'm not the only chef to feel this way)!

This could also create a reason for people to use cookware for a while then pass it on to someone else, or  to sell seasoned tools on auction.

If you are worried about the 'repair kitchen equipment' badges, you'd have to give away / sell some of your seasoned tools to get new ones to continue working on the badges. Giving things away: how very Glitchen!

  • i don't seem to have the same problems as you.. i made over 500 birch candies the other day without my saucepan breaking except maybe once. and this would make it harder to get the achievements for repairing kitchen tools - which are already really hard to get. what about just putting a visible repair meter on the kitchen tools if they can break?

  • I think this sounds perfect! It would be a great goal! I cook so much now for my friends and myself that it gets kindof boring. This would really make cooking more fun and more of an investment for the time I spend painstakingly crafting stew after stew. +1 +1 +1!
And as for it making it harder to get repair badges I wouldn't care personally. I would just end up repairing other people's tools instead or buying ones to use. When I'm cooking lots of food it would be nice to know that I have a tool that helps me instead of a tool that can break any minute!

  • Like it a lot!

.... and can be sold on to a kitchen tools vendor for a decent price - thus allowing currants for more ingredients! Was thinking of it finally breaking there after a good long use and then being redeemed.

  • No other responses? Do you guys not care about new ideas and brainstorming that much? :-(

  • In general, I like the idea of better tools.  There are already a few tools that take longer to wear out, why not cookware?  I also like the idea of a superior tool requiring less effort to use, and I love the idea of tools that get better with use and can't just be purchased from a vendor.

  • I think the idea of seasoning cookware is fantastic.  I'm a huge fan of crafting in MMOs and such, and the idea of being able to make slightly better food over time and having a better tool through use would be great.  I don't have much to add to the idea (at the moment), but have to throw in a vote for it.  Kudos!
