  • No, the Mirch houses did not used to have gardens prior to this test.

  • And are the tiny (3x1) gardens for herbs?

  • 6, 9 and 12 Herb Garden plots depending on the size of the house.

  • I'm excited - I just moved back to Shimla Mirch on Sunday, and I now have an herb garden under my house!! So cool!

  • I'll be you all will have lots of customers for your Herbs! I'm so jealous!

  • Perhaps I can work out a trade with someone who has a vegetable garden, since I cannot grow vegetables.  =)

  • That would be lovely Zany! I have more veggies than I know what to do with!

  • Great idea!  I loved my Shimla house, but moved out because I wanted to (1) live near subway because of teleport limitations and (2) try gardening.  Now both of those have been resolved!  Um,  except moving is a big pain and I don't want to do it again now.  :)  Maybe after next reset.

  • Amazingly enough, I was able to whittle my belongings down to what I could carry, so I could move without even getting any help! I sold or donated a lot of supplies I had gathered, and sternly admonished myself NOT to keep gathering while I made up my mind where to live, and I physically did not have room in my inventory to gather stuff while I walked to the new place!
I love my Shimla Mirch house. Bright yellow-orange pots in the corners, a big bowl of fish-like creatures, pretty blue rug, and fireflies! It's not gloomy at all! Outdoors, I have a teal-blue sky to enjoy, and plenty of pigs, chickens and butterflies.
Oh, and I have holes in the floor to jump down to get to the lower levels, and a ladder to climb up. My daughter likes to come over and race around doing laps.
And now I get to grow herbs, too. Yay!

  • Did the herb gardens in shimla houses appear before the end of last test - or have they appeared since the game closed...congrats shimla residents - i bet it will get very popular to live there again!
Posted 18 months ago by Violet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • They were not there before the test ended... at least, an hour before the test ended they were not there.
It might be nice to have more than one neighbor with me on my street!  =)

  • Oh, sweet!  Can you grow other things, or just herbs?  Way to bring people back into the Mirch (I hope they are able to do something about the perpetual dark area lag...)

  • Would be great if other areas could purchase herb gardens for houses as an add-on :)

  • Now that teleportation has been expanded, it should be much easier to move.  You can even give scripts to friends so they don't have to expend energy while they help you.

  • Just Herbs.
I summoned a few people to the Gardens when there were available patches (or when their plants were ready), played plant-sitter a few times, and even posted the flowers when they matured and their planter had gotten disconnected or needed to wander off. It wasn't a big bother, and was actually kind of fun! The reactions as people were summoned were worth the energy cost.

I myself stood there waiting for the full 3 hours and 36 minutes on a Yellow Crumb and watched it finish blooming as my power went out (my whole area has been getting rolling blackouts for a few weeks now). I nearly threw the modem out the window.... but when I regained power and returned - I discovered a kind soul who had been waiting with me for hours posted me the pretty Yellow. I think I cherish it more now because of the small kindness attached to it. You know who you are, thanks :D

Maybe the gardens in homes will help reduce crowding, and make things just a hair nicer overall. But it can be pretty great at times already.

  • We need a farmer's market! Herb growers can trade with veggie growers! Who can also trade with cherry harvesters who can trade with rock miners who can trade with loam diggers who can trade with barnie scrapers...

Hmm. Maybe that's just the auction. =/

But I really want a little community grouping of fruit carts and whatnot for haggling and trade... no buying, just trading your stuff!

...aaaaand now it sounds like a flea market. This requires further thought.

  • Hehehehe Jenny... in many MMO's it's not the developers or the programmers that make that kind of thing happen. It's most successful when a group of people just start hanging out in one spot and trading. Word spreads like wildfire in MMOs (telephone network, tell a friend network, tell a Glitch network), so if it's done well the street quickly gets a reputation as being 'a place to trade'.

It's successful when it happens organically, usually near a cluster of shops (which we really don't have, got subway stations though) but it almost exclusively fails when programming forces it. Maybe it starts with these precious herbs, maybe it's something else... but it's bound to happen some day :D

Thanks for the post-test arrival confirmation Zany! I'd been wondering that myself but didn't know who had a Shimla house type home.

  • There are gardens in Shimla houses? Either mine wasn't so designated or I missed it.

I love my space although I would like one a bit bigger. I do cover the Alakol houses but love what I get that is specific to Shimla. Unless I've missed it, I can't complete the challenge for planting seeds in my home garden because...well...I don't have a garden.

  • reposting my home pagein case any others are thinking of trying the bogs now-
"Probably late to the party, but the Chakra and Jeth houses have herb gardens now too. It was just Shimla earlier. I reassert my plan to go back to my lonely life in the bogs at reset."

I've lived in Shimla and Chakra. I loved my time there even though the darkness is not for everyone. Maybe the herbs will perk it up for some. :)

ETA- @g33kgurrl- The bog house herb gardens are new. I still don't think you will be able to plant regular veggies for your quests there. I did those in the Community Garden in the Meadows when I had to.

off topic- Marebito and Hburger posted that Kajuu had Alakol style housing coming. The link doesn't work atm, but it did.

  • G33, the herb gardens in Shimla houses are apparently set to go for the next test.

And you can use my Alakol garden to finish your quest - I've heard that the requirements for having your "own" garden are not as strict as they seem.

  • @jasbo- From trying in the last 2 tests, you can plant trees in another Glitches backyard, but you cannot plant or harvest in their garden.

  • @jasbo -- <3 <3 <3 you bunches. Thank you. I will find you when our world returns and coordinate a time that works for us both.

  • G33 - whatever I can do... if JW is right, I can't help.  If I can, I surely will!  One thing I know is that the people I have friended here are good people and I will help...

  • Mutual <3<3 back. Appreciate the offer regardless. We can assess once we open and go from there.

  • I moved from Shimla Mirch on Friday night--there were no gardens then!  That was part of the reason why I moved.

  • If I have learned nothing else from this thread, it is that I have a friend in g33kgurrl!  ;-)

  • I wish we could trade in some of our crop plots for herb plots and vice versa; why not have a mixed garden. I found it fun talking to others in the community garden, but didn't like the idea of waiting for my seeds to mature or taking the chance they would be gone and replanted w/a variety I didn't want if I left.

  • @zany: I thought about what you said and you're right. What do I have all this stuff for, anyways?  A little time spent auctioning extra stuff, and I'm footloose and fancy-free. Moving done!  :)  I'm in Jethimadh now playing gardener in a bog house in Ounaas Means. :)
