Buy Requests

A lot of times you'll see players asking if anyone has a certain item to auction. I feel like there is more of a need for buy requests than for auction lots. Players could request an item for a certain price, and then other players could serve those requests.

  • I agree! it would also help to make sure the items in auction are what people actually are looking for...and as a seller I certainly wouldn't complain about a guaranteed sale!

Perhaps a counter offer or negotiate button..

  • That would be good too, but mostly it would provide an easy and effective solution to the problem where everyone is asking people to auction stuff in chat. Plus, once there's a measurable demand, it would be a lot easier for a self-regulating economy to form.

  • Seriously, the auction should convert into an exchange, complete with buy orders and a "last traded" price.

  • Yes. I'd be more inclined to sell something if I knew someone really wanted it.

  • buy orders are kind of being done by the auction sniper 3rd party application script but they are private and not visible to the sellers at this point... might not take that much to detect those checking connections to the system and publish them.  May show lots of very hopeful/opportunistic buy orders

    add a page something like
Artilect wanted to buy 25 Awesome Stew for 150 currants each but none qualified
Aritlect wanted to buy 1 golden egg for 1 currants each but none qualified

  • For exactly the reason that an existing auction sniper has buy orders, they should be pulled into the game auction house.

Here's the excitement (and the terror): if auctions were well used, and there were buy orders and street value was related to last-traded (so that vendor prices were also related), then a lot of strategies that can be very static start to flow.  Right now, it's very productive to mine, because among other things, chunks and compounds and powders all have a really good base retail price.

But: if everyone starts mining, then that would drive down the price of mining products and drives up the price of food and drinks, because mining needs that, and it's much more efficient to buy those items than to be your own complete supply cycle.  Now, cooking, crafting and farming become more lucrative.  Until everyone does that...  And so on.

Eventually that would reach a stable state, until a new game item enters play.  Any item with interaction with the supply cycles would put the markets back in flux.  Which would be cool!

The fear has got to be: if you put the economy in free flow, then certain items might bottom out or skyrocket, and lucky glitches would be there to take advantage.  I think that the vendors still could serve as a backstop, just by having a range of absolute minimums and maximums they'll buy/sell for.  And, vendors mean there's always a demand and a supply.

  • This would be especially nice for people who have, say tinkering V, and could make a cryatalmizing chamber, but stand to lose a bit at auction if they don't find a customer. It seems weird to say this, but to my knowledge, the ultimate refinement in terms of economy can be found in the korean mmo Goonzu. It is Glitch's polar opposite - an incredibly detailed game interface, which gives players everything they could need to produce, buy, and sell efficiently, but lacking in any sort of elegant veneer and backstory to suck you in. It vaguely resembles something from Win95. However, one look at the market economy will make your head spin! So much player control, so much speed. Although I wouldn't recommend the system wholesale for a community like Glitch, it's good researchin' for your game designers!
