Just a tip about the new houses (front yard)

Whatever you do, DO NOT leave anything valuable on your front yard unless you want someone else to have it. Other people *including your friends have access to it. Just keep that in mind. Thanks for reading! :]

Pass it on

  • Gave me a funny idea....a new skill called "Disguise".  With it you can craft harmless items that appear as valuable ones.  When someone takes it and tries to eat/activate/whatever it would normally do a gnome style thought balloon pops up with "Now that wasn't very glitchy now was it" and disappears.

  • Oh bother, bother, bother. The OP is not accurate. I agree everyone is pretty confused. As a matter of fact there are at least three maybe four threads discussing aspects of this right now. Before everyone panics, go test this yourself. You can vist anyone's street who hasn't blocked you. You can feed, harvest, interact with icons and mine. If you are a stranger, you can't take meat collectors, icons, or feeders. You can't poison trees. You cant get into the house unless you have a key. Friends have additional privileges on streets but I forget what. If you drop stuff other than what i mentioned on the street it can be took. Let's not keep scaring people.

  • Actually if Midori's post had happened at the start of the upgrades it would have stopped all of those other threads from happening : )  It's short, sweet and to the point lol

  • But it isn't true. It is a very general statement that is going to scare folks needlessly. We don't need inaccurate fear-mongering. We need precise information.

  • What Axa said. Friends can poison your trees, but like TS says "Why would they?"

Icons are locked. Feeders are locked. Animals are locked. Collectors are locked.

  • I know I was given the option to capture a piggie on another street but I can't remember if it was a friend's street. Not sure if that's just friends or everyone.

  • I'm sorry I don't see what she said that is inaccurate? She said if you don't want to lose something you value, don't leave in your front yard.  That's smart advice for every player : )

  • I value my icons, feeders, trees and collectors. I certainly would't want them taken (and they can't be but I wouldn't know it based on the OP) The OP is overbroad and will needlessly panic people. The fact that there is a grain of truth in it makes it even more dangerous.

  • It's inaccurate because you can no longer take things off people's home streets.  No need to be scared.

  • Botsy that isn't accurate either and could lull people into a false sense of security. Certain valuable items are locked but not all.

  • lol - I still like the op's post.

  • Also, you can no longer pick up someone else's emblems! They appear to be locked  now as well.

  • It doesn't have to necessarily have to be something fancy like those of which you named: an icon/emblems, meat collector, butterfly milker whatever/etc. for you to value it. It can be something simple like food, or toys. I was just on a strangers street & had the full ability to take their plants, toys, & other useless thing-a-bobs, but who knows, they may value that. In some aspects you're right & I do agree. However, I've had the ability to still take from strangers - & did only because there was a note stating I could; a person may still want to take it without permission anyway.

A friend of mine had a garden out on their yard & when they arrived at their home street one day she found a stranger nearly taking them. Yeah it may not be a big deal, but she wanted her plants! Lol

Anyway, thanks to those who supported my tip & to those who also didn't. We can all agree to disagree, but always find a way to meet each other half way.

  • Midori, you have a good point. What I am requesting is that you make it accurately so as to not needlessly panic players. Part of the problem is the extreme flexibility of the English language: there are lots of words that sort of mean almost the same thing. We get into trouble in situations like this where there are subtleties.

TS says we own our home streets. A better way (IMHO) of thinking about this would be to think of ourselves as managers. We have some control over the environment (choosing landscape, what resources to place, and in some cases what we can harvest in quantity--milk and meat collectors). But we don't have absolute rights and as you point out there are things that if we drop them on our street we will have to share.

It is important to understand the subtleties so that you can interact with your home street appropriately and so you aren't disappointed or upset.

It is a cool thing that we are able to manipulate the environment and share it with other players. If you want/ need absolute control, that is what your house and backyard are designed for.

But again you do have some control out front. It is important to understand what you can and can't do in front. Far less chance of upset once you do.
