New Glitch Ideas

i think creating factories/farms/bakeries/restaurants that glitches could work in (making currants, spending energy) would be a good idea.
Also adding a police station. And maybe a "rob" option :)

Those are the general ideas, if people agree we could go into detail.

  • Do you mean robbing other players? I really don't see how that would be fun for anyone except the person doing the robbing. And it doesn't fit with the spirit of the game at all.

  • This should also probably be moved to the Ideas forum...but bakeries/restaurants could be fun, since we do have houses, and we do already make food. Some kind of option to make it easier to set up a shop of our own could be interesting, perhaps started up like one of those group sidestreets by a few people and then organized in a way to keep it run by each group?

  • Yes, definitely needs to be in the ideas forum, but I'd like to contribute anyway.

I think the ability to buy a storefront the way we now buy houses would be really cool.

In the way that we now have 'neighborhoods' that you enter through a sign we could have flea market type areas where the same thing happens.

The best stalls/shopfronts would be like 50,000 currant mansions in that they'd have all kinds of amenities and might even be a separate building, whereas the apartment equivalents that could be picked up for 1,500 would be of much lower quality.

Perhaps the smaller one would be just an unpainted wooden stand with four slots available to place items to sell and the larger one would be a well decorated store with something like 32-48 (Glitch seems to like the number sixteen for these things, or really those divisible by four I think.) slots.

  • I really like that, we need more activities and quests that players could engage in. Maybe make it so you need a skill requirement to get a job or something.
I could see enjoying the rob option, maybe arm a gnome with a sword or alarm? It will be like poking on Facebook a bit.

  • Alternately, I wonder if there might be a way to add stores to existing neighborhoods, so that you could support your neighbors.  It's possible to do that in the auctions now, but you'd have to have a pretty good memory if you wanted to know more than just the people in your own block.  Or does that smack of too much clique-ishness?

Agree about it belonging in the Ideas forum.  Something tells me TS might be having a busy weekend getting Ur ready for us (*claps hands excitedly*), or else a dev might have politely moved this already.

  • +1 Varekai. :)

That might make the idea a lot easier to implement!

Perhaps there could be a way to make the storefront part of your house? Like, old-time England where there would be a store on the bottom floor of a building and a living space above. The store would be public and the elevator door thingy leading up would be locked as houses are now. :)

  • Nyarlathotep is here?!
Hark, you posters, and beware the Crawling Chaos...

  • Care to elaborate? xD

  • DaveJohn, a google image search was most enlightening for me.  I am appropriately wary of the crawling chaos.

I'm also thinking that maybe stores could be limited to one type of goods, and that you would have to achieve an ultimate skill, like Supreme-Master-Alchemist, or 5-Star-Fryer-Upper to be able to open a store.  You could only have one of those ultimate skills, so if you wanted to switch, maybe that's where Unlearning comes into play.  And if they were neighborhood/residence based, one of the keys to having a desirable neighborhood would be having people with all different skills, which would be a kind of nice community building thing.

  • Psh...i think it could be fun just to run a lemonade stand!

  • @Varekai Oooh, I like I like. You, sir or madame, are just full of good ideas. :) The only thing I don't like is being restricted to one thing. I wouldn't mind being able to open a general store where I could sell anything. It might just be because I like to go from harvesting, to kinship-based skills, to mining like a small child on no-no powder. :)

  • Yeah, I kinda like that too...I think I just keep trying to come up with a reason for Unlearning.
Posted 15 months ago by Varekai Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah. xD I trust the devs though. I really think they'll come up with a reason for unlearning your skills. Though I kinda hope they don't. :l It seems like not knowing a skill could never be a good thing. I like to be a jack-of-all-trades. xP

  • I wish we could think "out of the box" for this game, otherwise sounds like RL and It will take the fun out of the game for me. Hope we are careful, Glitch is supposed to be a dream in my view!

  • Yes, yes Joy. You're definitely right. We need to inject some weirdness into this idea.

Hmm... I can't really think of anything that makes stores overly out of the box... Wanna help me out? :)

  • I don't really like the idea of a plethora of stores; it brings to mind the chaos of the MapleStory marketplace and the frustration of checking dozens of stores to find the item you're looking for, plus extra if you want a deal on it. The auction system works well enough in my opinion. (And if you have a search-store-inventory, you might as well go back to the auction system.)

One thing I think might be an interesting idea that deserves further consideration (from Puzzle Pirates) is the idea that you can temporarily own territory. For example, an individual (or group?) could bid for ownership of a Community Machine Room for a week and earn, say, .1 currant per item processed there and get their name on the building. Maybe whoever currently owns a street can open a single item stall on it? [Very half-baked ideas, admittedly.]

  • Job system is not bad, but idk how it can be realized in Glitch.
And "rob" function...it'll just ruin the peaceful atmosphere of the game.

  • Soo if you have a store in a neighborhood, are you standing behind the counter the whole time? I guess you'd better pick a very crowded neighborhood, or it might not be worth your time... Although  I bet it might not be that hard to compete with some of the vendors in the mines. Those miners can get hungry and need suff...

  • I always really enjoyed the way one of the shops worked in the Discworld MUD, players could work there when they were in game, but when no players were around it would be run by an NPC who would happily toddle off on her break when a player came to take over. Players would have responsibility to keep the shop stocked, but could also serve customers. I really enjoyed it. It was never designed to replace other completely automated shopping routes, but just provided an additional layer.

  • Oh, yes, I always seem to agree with those that make new comments. :)

@Aoi Yeah, I was really thinking of things from a sellers point of view. I thought the storefronts would be a cool place to call your own as far as selling goes. I was also thinking it could be a way to pay the one time fee (1,500-50,000 or so) and avoid the delivery times and nominal fees of the auction system.

But when you think about it it would be super hard for a buyer to find what they're looking for. However, and I feel like a total loser for mentioning, Neopets has a very similar function of player owned shops and players find what they want by using a search client called the Shop Wizard.

He finds any item you search for and displays the prices of those being offered in ascending order, as the auction does now. There could be search functions like that that could be narrowed down to just the shop 'neighborhood' you're in, so you can find the cheapest price and location of an item you want in your 'neighborhood'.

@Idalia Player-NPC joint shops could be cool. :) Players could do the thing where they work as long as they want and get paid something like 25-50 currants a minute. Not as profitable as sparkly mining, but a fun diversion. :P
