Glitch Stories: "This is a story for you, about me..."

I found a lovely note all by its lonesome on a floating island on Cebarkul, and I thought it shouldn't go missed.  I am not the author.

This is a story for you, about me.

Glitch was here during an important time in my life. I spent my days not knowing what to do next. My girlfriend was depressed and I spent everyday caring for her. I was secretly depressed. She introduced me to Glitch and we played together. We helped each other get the items we needed.

It was perfect. It was mutual. She was happy once again, we both were.

There came a time when we left Ur. We had no longer needed it for our mood, and instead spent our time doing boring tasks, like mining Sparkly Rock all day. In the end, we just knew it was time to stop.

We left the game for a while. We returned to find that our houses had closed and that we had our own lots now.

Then we left again, this time, only to find out Glitch was closing.

Glitch saved me from my own depression. This is a story for anyone who was affected by Glitch. This is a story of how a simple game helped me.

This is a story for you, about me.

As a person who's been tracking Glitch news since...2009?  2008!? (I don't even remember) and alpha tested way back when, Glitch has come to mean so much to me.  It was not only a game, but a community, and a home.  Thank you all so much for being a part of it.

Please add your own stories of your life in Ur, and what Glitch has meant to you.

  • Just as I found Glitch one of my best friends moved an ocean away. Neither of us was very good at emailing and Skyping and all that - but we both began to play Glitch and we met in-game and hugged each other and jumped around and talked. It was lovely. She went through some hard times after that and I think if we hadn't had Glitch, we might have lost touch completely. She lives near me again now. I think Glitch kept us together.

  • A story from PinkyDeath:Dear Stoot, Glitch team, and fellow glitchens, After reading the FAQ for the close I felt like I needed to write this to make sure you know that I disagree with the FAQ where it says “I'm really angry about this!: We are really sorry. We failed you.”

TO ME YOU HAVE NOT FAILED, YOU HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE. I want you all to know that this game has had a profound effect on my life. It has inspired me to learn computer programming. My dream was to become a DEV for glitch; although that now will never happen, I still want to continue learning programing, now in memory of glitch.

It has given me a passport to the world, literally. I have learned about others' cultures from all over: Aussies, Kiwis, Brits, Icelanders, Netherlanders, our northern neighbors, those east coast folks and even a player from the next city over from me. You have created a game that has created a community that can NEVER be ended or destroyed. (a facebook group was crated 4 hours ago already has 272 members)

In this game I have met so many great people. It’s so great and vast. In global we has discussed from the most serious (rape and abortion) to the very silly (fun with puns, CAPPY HOUR, & “silent” role calls). There have been pet parents hour (posting links to pet photos) & ladies nights (pms talks) and millions of other great conversations. To me it was beautiful to watch the game evolve

.I feel like one of the characters at the end of the Count of Monte Christo, watching him depart, not knowing what lies ahead for us remain here all i can do is wait and hope that glitch will some how become a phoenix or a zombie and someday be resurrected

I imagine there will be tons of goodbye parties within the game over the next 2 week, all I can say is I hope to see you there and I’ll bring my infamous sour mash potato hooch.  I LOVE YOU ALL <3
