Who wants to eat planks?

Why is "eat" an option for planks?  Why would anyone want eat a stack of wood planks?

I often play this game at the end of a long day when I am tired and once again, I have accidentally eaten a stack of planks instead of dropping them in my house.

It would help if the options made more sense so we did not need to be hyper-vigilant all the time.  Today I have come close to smashing a pumpkin. Very ha ha and all but I would appreciate it if the option selections were not a minefield for the weary player.

  • Once vendors are gone, you will want to eat your planks, since you can't sell them to get enough money to buy an awesome stew.

  • Why wouldn't you want to eat a plank? They're good eatings

  • We seem to eat ceramic plates and bowls too, if you look at some of the food items in-game. ;)

Maybe this is my own weariness speaking, but all I can think is how amusing the request is to make verbs make more sense in a game in which we nibble pigs for food, milk butterflies, and whistle at fireflies.

As for why "eat" is an option for planks: they're a food item. Like allspice or any other spice/bubble/fruit, which can all be consumed unnecessarily for minimal amounts of energy.

  • Oh, it is a crime to deviate from the accepted catechism of Glitch.

I always thought plank eating was a terrible idea but I can fall in line...

Yes. It is a joy and a blessing to be able to eat wooden planks and I understand the error of my ways.

I will work ever harder to appreciate the wisdom of every tiny detail of the...

    Sorry I cannot go on

  • You do use planks to make at least one food item (salmon on plank or something like that)...so it is a food item in the world of glitch.  I had one friend (long before we got wood working skills), that would eat extra planks in lieu of meat or eggs like others for energy.  However, I don't disagree that the menus could be better about verb order.  There are many discussions of this in the ideas forum.

  • You can always use keyboard shortcuts for keys you press repeatedly.

As for dropping, don't click on the item and click drop, instead you should just drag the item onto the screen, that tells glitch that you want to drop the item.

  • This is Glitch, part of its charm for me is that things don't behave as we expect, Experience in real life gives no real advantage to playing here in Ur.

It saddens me to see cries for things to mirror real life, Why? What was wrong with strawberries being both seeds and craftable? Why do cherries need to be small? Why were Spice trees in Groddle Forest wrong? (for the life of me I have yet to figure a reason) What is so bad about eating planks?

Sure you can make mistakes but they are only ever mistakes in our eyes, with maybe the exception of donating or dropping one valuable limited item such as your Beta Pickle, most everything else is obtainable all be it it takes a bit more time, and as there's no win here we have time. If it is fun as it should be then going out to replace what was lost is just additional fun. If its not fun then why the heck are you doing it?

What's next? Will people be saying we jump from cliffs and dont get hurt OMG thats not real?

So please let Glitch be quirky with unexpected oddities and outcomes, dont make it standardised and sterile or have it mirror the real world, I for one come here to forget that.

  • Pumpkin smashing is sometimes useful.  Plank eating less so now that we have woodworking, but still sometimes. And I am *definitely* in favor of oddity.

  • Of course, there is no mention of activating spinach, licking an apple, considering an allspice, or poking a very stinky cheese...or any number of other quirky things, that often cause interesting surprises in the game. (all of which I found hilarious and fun)

This does cause me to ponder if we will be able to eat wooden furniture in game or does the conversion of planks to boards make them non-edible...hmmm...

Now I'm really looking forward to a bed time snack :D

As for licking apples, I'd rather caress a banana . . . gone are the days tho sadly

  • i eat them cuz I get like 40-80 planks per harvest, and they're 2 energy each...so harvest a few, and it really adds up...

  • When did we become able to eat planks? Or was it always this way and I have been very unobservant?
Posted 8 months ago by Omnika Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Kayaka Violin They add up a lot more effectively if you sell the planks to any old vendor at 4c each and then buy meat off of auction :) Meat is so plentiful for most players that it's often sold below 6c! However, it gives ten energy despite the cheap price tag!

For a direct example. You can either eat 100 planks for 200 energy, or you can sell them at 4c each for 400c total, and then buy 66 meat (roughly) on auction and eat those for 660 energy! That's a 330% improvement!

  • So, if we can eat most things off trees, why aren't we allowed to eat paper?  Seems it would be easier to chew...

  • Why would anyone want to stick their finger in poop and examine it? Who does that? Eye does in Glitch. Eye does all sorts of things here that I'd never do in real life. Like, I eat slabs of meat from a pig but don't actually kill the pig. That is just so messed up. Talk about torture. Geez.

  • Plenty of fiber in planks.

I'd much rather eat a jellisac.
