Portable Sign Posts: Where The Streets Have No Names

Problem: Random exploration of Home Streets sometimes leads to a Dead End: A street where the Home owner has chosen not to add or keep any names on their Sign Post. As things are now you can either /home to start back at your own Home street, use the Back to The World button or TP using a script or a pre-set point.

Solution: A Portable Sign Post. This could be a pourable potion (Street Solution) or a craftable item or Tool we could tinker together with planks etc.

Upon reaching a Dead End Home street, one could pour the potion or activate the item, whereupon a temporary, miniature version of the Sign Post appears. At this point the user is able to add the name of ONE contact and click the name to leave the Dead End street.

It could look something like this: http://bit.ly/xXgwOi

The miniature Sign Post disappears when the user leaves the street. It could either return to the player's bag or disappear completely necessitating the creation of another one the next time it is needed, though it might be a pain to end up on a Dead End street and not have the ingredients you need to make this and so have to /home first etc. so maybe once made it has X amount of uses and can be repaired like any other tool, or if a potion has 5 doses before disappearing.

  • I like it!  It would also be cool (and maybe easier?) to have a guest slot on a street post, so anyone could edit and use it, and then it would revert to its original blank state.

  • @glum puddin': yeah that would be easier for sure. I think I just wanted to do the mock-up with the extra sign :)

ETA: And having another tool or potion or something new to learn to make is, to me, always a good thing.

  • Another great idea from kittyface!! I really like this idea. glum's is good too, and definitely easier, but I wouldn't say better because there is something slightly cognitive-dissonance-y to me about the idea of a guest signpost. I like the idea that this would be a craftable, single or limited use item, along the classic theme of the portable hole.

  • OMG katlazam I may like that even better! A portable hole like the smuggler disappears into! But yes still craftable/pourable.

  • I fear that guest slots on the signpost would be abused... I can imagine thousands of guest slots all pointing to the same place - as with streets full of chickens with the same name. We'd have signpost wars to replace animal name wars and tree wars.

Portable hole sounds awesome though. Pour it on the ground & then jump into it. I'd love to see that.

  • I think it should be an actual item instead of a potion.

  • If a portable hole is an item, and you put one in your bag, does everything else in the bag fall out through the hole?
Posted 9 months ago by Syruss Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sadly yes ;(

And what if the hole never stops and you fall in and keep going down beyond the furthest depths of Hell and end up in some creepy place where they have never even imagined your existence?  Yet you can't stop there to catch your breath since the hole is seemingly without end making the Great Hole to Ix look like some minor-league attempt at municipal ditch-digging!

¡Ay, caramba! "It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma!"

My guess is that sprinkling a little rainbow juice in the bottom of your bag before attempting to carry around a hole might help when faced with the scenarios above, but only TS can say for sure.
