Probably Stupid, But I Want to Ask

So I don't understand really what alchemy is for. Or what the point for digging rocks is. I dug some rocks and ground them and got an element? I think. I made some stuff with the test tubes. What is this stuff for? Food, I get. You make it, you eat it. But to me, there is nothing intuitive about alchemy. Does that mean I can do magic or make things magically with the test tubes? I've been avoiding it because it just seems unfun and pointless. Please help.

  • You use the compounds that you create in the test tube to make powders with the beaker. Very useful powders. You require Intermediate Admixing to use the beaker.

Alchemy on its own - not very useful. It's just a stepping stone to Intermediate Admixing.

  • Hi there,

The rocks can be crushed into elements, which in turn can be combined into compounds.

These compounds can then be used to make various powders, which have some magical properties which can enhance the favor gained by donating to shrines, make pigs/chickens/butterflies cough up copious amounts of meat/milk/grain, cause trees to grow faster or just have a little fun (no-no, sneezing, sparkle).

See the items under alchemical powders here:

Metal Ore can also be smelted into various metals, which can be used to craft tools.

  • Also, these metals and powders, etc. can be sold for nice profit.

  • Thank you for the answers! So, it's sort of like magic? You make magic powders to help you, or you can just make stuff for money? Ok, it makes sense now. It's probably more fun when you get the knack of it. I will keep trying. Thanks again!

  • Crucial, if you scroll down the items page in the encyclopedia to the "Alchemical Powders" section, you can see the kinds of things you can make.

We are slow to get around to it, but there are many other skills planned which take advantage of alchemy (several levels of potion making which let's you make things more powerful than the powders; standard fission & division, to break compounds back down to elements; discombobulatory recycling which let's you break most things in the game down to compounds).

  • @stoot: Oh, I see. So they make things in the game easier at higher levels, then. I think I get it now. Thanks!

  • @stoot: The plans for future alchemy skills sound awesome! I hope they will include using more red elements----the red ones are WAY out of proportion to the green, blue and white ones.
