[RFE] Show how much energy is being used for crushing/smelting

This RFE is what it says on the tin.

When I go to crush some beryl, dullite, or sparkly, I'd LOVE to know how much energy the task is going to take before I crush myself into hell in an attempt to free up an inventory slot.

Other items tell you how much energy is being used to perform the task, but this one does not.
(See: Shaking butterfly milk, squeezing butter, etc)

[UPDATE]: Adding smelting to the list, per Draron's suggestion, as it too does not reveal how much energy you are about to use. Again, this is annoying to the player who ends up with 3 energy left after smelting, and gets hit by the energy tick in-world faster than they can get into a bag to eat something (I lose 3 energy per tick).

  • A lot of items are missing this feature. Smelting does too, which is what I've been doing the past few days. Hiding info from players only is a nuisance, they should be shown.

  • @Draron Thanks for pointing out smelting - I didn't notice it, as I just started doing that a little earlier.

  • Also add egg seasoning, and I think bubble making, gassifying, spice milling, fruit changing, cooking. Probably bean seasoning too but I don't have that so I can't try it yet.

  • @Sunburst: Denying your suggestions on Bubble Making, Fruit Changing, Spice Milling, Frying, Grilling, Knife+Boarding, Gassifying - All show the amount of energy used per unit created when making.
Unable to currently confirm egg/bean seasoning. Hesitant to add either one, due to the number of denials I've issued to your suggestions.

The crushing and smelting processes show absolutely no indication of how much energy is used per unit, or as a whole, beyond trying to smelt/crush too many pieces and simply being told you do not have the energy for it.
These are the process issues I'm looking for.
Yes, it would be nice if when you're cooking and you want to cook more than one of an item, the UI would scale the energy use accordingly, but this is not the RFE for that.

    Thanks.

  • So you mean energy used per unit? Those I mentioned don't give you a total of what something is going to cost. For example you know to create something like an egg it might take 15 energy, but if you want to create 5 eggs it doesn't tell you how much energy that will end up using. You don't find out until after.

When you get into making large numbers of things it would be very useful if it would let you know how much energy it will take, as it already calculates how many ingredients you need.

  • I agree that it would be nice to see this in the pop-up, but as with the other things mentioned, as long as you know how much a unit takes, you can extrapolate the total cost for yourself.

Just for reference for now, smelting seems to take 1 energy per chunk. Obviously, this will change if Smelting II ever gets introduced. At Refining II, it seems to take 3 energy per chunk, which would imply that Refining I required 4/chunk, but I don't remember for certain. Even if it's a fractional part, which might cause different results due to rounding, this has held true enough for me to consistently estimate total cost before I smelt/crush.

  • All skills have a cancel option in their progress bars. I started to repair something, realized it would have killed me if I took it to completion, cancelled out, ate something, finished up.
