Dying piggies

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to keep my piggies from dying when I am away for a few days? I went away for the weekend, and came home to find two big piles of steaks in my Glitch yard. I would rather keep my piggies alive! I petted them and fed them as much as I could before I left, is there anything else I can do?

  • Get a few feeders, 3 or 4 if you'll be gone more than a day or two.  =)

  • If your yard doesn't have an animal pen, trees can keep a fair number of pigs alive. Additionally, getting Remote Herdkeeping is a really good idea. That allows you to set up a number of pig feeders which will keep the pigs fed for awhile (though you have to fill them with a food source, and they do run out).

  • Otherwise, drop food before you're away for a few days.

  • Piggies won't always eat what's on the ground left for them even if they're starving (I learned this the hard way :p ) ~ If you need someone to fill your feeders I have RHK and can do it for you.  ^-^

  • I've never had them not eat what I've left on the ground.

  • They may eat some of it but they won't always eat enough to sustain themselves. :p

  • I did a test.  I dropped 10 beans and 10 cherries.  My two pigs ate the beans but now, more than a month later, they still have not touched the cherries.  I do have 5 trees including both bean and fruit.  recently I caught one of the pigs eating from the Spice tree.  I also have two meat collectors and one pig feeder filled with grain.  When i started the test, I had no collectors or feeders.  The cherries are still on the ground.

  • Oddly, mine were starving the other day with spinach and carrots on the ground (and an empty feed - I had a busy week). I picked the veggies up and dropped them right on top of the pigs and they went "Sum!' and started showing.

    Silly meat makers...

  • Ok, so they don't eat some items then? But if you drop food they want they will eat it.

  • wow, I must have missed the memo on piggie feeders :) and, I didn't realize that if I dropped food on the ground they would eat it! Thanks everyone!

  • Before I got a feeder, I dropped potatoes on the ground and they ate them up.  That and they liked my spice tree.  I can't get mine to eat anything else.  Potatoes and spice.  So I only put potatoes in my feeders.

  • Whatever you put into a piggy feeder is 'just a number' once it's inside the feeder, and piggies have no way of discerning what food type created it.  I mostly put planks in my feeder because there's no other use for them.

  • I only ever put grain in my feeder, anything else seems a waste.

  • Grain for me too, especially since it tends to pile up anyway.

  • I use all grain for making buns.   All buns for making Expensive Grilled Cheese.  It never piles up.
