Why Level Up?

What's the benefit of levelling up?

I've seen a lot of posts showing how to level up quickly and complaining about XP caps (a cap on donations? that's my grrrr!)

But really why level up? You get a currant boost for each of the lower levels, and a bigger energy pot, which means a big new day energy boost, but I always use more than one potful of energy in a day anyway, so the energy I get from eating is more important to me than the new day boost. Also as your energy pot gets bigger the energy cost of teleporting leaps up.

  • Level may indeed not matter for your playing style, and one of the great things about Glitch is that it supports many different playing styles.  There are some things for which level makes a difference, but those may not be important for your playing style.  Here are the advantages I'm aware of for increasing levels:

*A bigger energy allowance, which means you can eat more before you become "stuffed"
*Also, bigger allowances for energy and mood allow you to do more of activities that drain these before you need to replenish
*Some skills have level requirements (see Skill Tree for details)
*Some quests may have level requirements (but I don't recall specifics)

  • What splendora said, plus
*Some people like the rock throwing confetti for them.
*Quoins get bigger as you level up.
    *XP leaderboard
*Larger max energy means you can do more whatever at a time before having to refuel.

I'm not a very XP-driven player, but I'm always glad to see a level up.

  • This came up a bunch with the % of max energy teleport thing.

Think of it this way: If your energy max is 600, and you get your energy down to 1 before midnight, you are getting the equivalent of 3 Awesome Stews. If your max is 1200, you are getting the equivalent of 6 Awesome Stews.

Shooting for Leveling up is hard... but it is also hard to avoid. So it is all pretty much a moot debate.

  • @OP: Minor note. For some reason, I don't get xp caps on donations anymore. Only favour caps. Not sure if that's because my level is so high that I hit my favour cap before my xp cap, or something in the game mechanics got tweaked or something.

I don't try to level up :) I mean, I haven't got to the point of specifically avoiding xp quoins! I do happily ignore warnings of when my skills will no longer give xp, though.

  • Why level up? My Glitch Mantra is: Why not? lol

  • Lara, your xp cap is greater than your favor cap.  I have to donate to two shrines before I hit my xp cap because it is larger than the amount from one favor cap.

  • Some skills require being a certain level, but the most they require is Level 4. After that, there's no incentive to level up just to qualify for skills.

  • After a certain point, I've noticed that I am no longer receiving currants at level up.

  • After level 20, you only get currants at 25, then at 30, 40, 50 and 60.

  • You get favour with all of the giants when you level up.

  • You should also get currants at 35, 45, and 55.  The currants are awarded every 5 levels.
