BA 3

Does BA 3's learning time differ for those who have finished skills?  I have 18 days, 16 hours and change on it, but I finished a month ago.

  • I realized a couple of minutes after I posted that the answer should be yes, varies upon when people learned the BL skills and now we have the 37 or so free skills for the newbies.

  • Mine says 13 days, 4 hrs ... but you have finished more skills than I have.

  • 32 days here.

  • The 37 skills before getting hit by the 3% compounding learning time penalty is only for those people who have learned BL5.  For players without any BL, it's 20.  Here's the breakdown as of the last skill learning tweak:

BL0 - threshold 20 skills, compounding rate of increase of 3% to learn additional skills
    BL1 - threshold 21 skills, "
    BL2 - threshold 24 skills, "
    BL3 - threshold 28 skills, "
    BL4 - threshold 32 skills, "
    BL5 - threshold 37 skills, "

  • To answer your question Tingly - the BA3 skill time should appear the same for everyone who has learned the other 83 skills (but I like the initiative to double-check). Doesn't matter when you learned BL5 at that point, since the 'next skill' math is exactly the same.

Mine shows: 18 days 16 hr 42 min 33 sec

  • Pretend that BA3 has a base of 40 hours to learn.  If I learn BL5 as my fifth skill, BA3 will start compounding from skill 38 at 32 hours.  If I learn the BL set as my last 5 skills, BA3 will start compounding from skill 21 at 40 hours.  You and I must have learned BL5 early and before the threshold change.

  • Better Learning 4 was my 67th skill, so the argument would apply if we both learned BL5 after the thresholds kicked in and at the exact same time in our learning paths. We did a poll when the the changes happened and I checked the data snapshot. Pretty sure the math on skill #84 is going to be (base * .08)*1.03^46 even if skill #83 was BL5.

    In the case where it's BA3 that's a base of 6 days... or 518400 seconds... x .08 (the BL5 modifier) = 414720 seconds x 1.03^46 (83 skills - 37 skill threshold) = 1615352.5 seconds = 18 days, 16 hours, 42 minutes, and 33 seconds.

Currently - if you have BL5 and you are below the 37 skill threshold, the BA3 time should read ~ 4 days, 19 hours, 12 minutes.

    Then, I'm all screwed up.

  • @Tingly
I think you're looking at things in too concrete of terms.  Skill learning times aren't "set in stone" depending on when you learn a BL skill.  Rather, the time to learn a skill is calculated after each skill you learn and varies depending on how many skills you have and what level BL you have.

This is the general learning equation:

Time to learn = [(Base learning time)*(BL modifier)] * [1.03^(Total # of skills learned - BL skill threshold)]

1.03 is the 3% increase in learning times with the exponential showing the compounding increase in learning time with the more skills you've learned.

So, regardless of whether BL5 was your 5th skill or your 50th, if you want to learn BA3 after learning 80 skills, the equation would be as follows:

    Time to learn = [(6 days)*0.80] * [1.03 ^ (80-37)]

BA3 has a base learning time of 6 days
0.80 is the modifier for BL5
37 skills is the BL5 learning threshold before the compounding increase in learning time takes effect

When you learn a BL skill, the next skill's learning time doesn't have any accrued penalty from before learning that BL skill.  Rather, the new learning time is calculated from the base learning time taking into consideration any modifying effects of the new BL skill.

  • I knew where I messed up after reading trav's post. :)

BTW, if you were wondering, I'm not going for the top of the achievement board.  I probably won't get much more if any cuz most of the rest are rather grindy with the launch reset coming in the not-so-distant future, plus others are testing them.
