Bag magnets, for keeping stuff organized

If (for whatever reason) we don't want to have new types of holding devices that attract particular categories of stuff, the way spices automatically go into spice racks, what about adding the ability to craft "Thing Magnets"?

A rock magnet could be put into a bag to designate it the place for mining products to get placed automatically into inventory. It would take up a slot, but it would keep inventory nice and tidy.

There could be bean magnets, produce magnets, fruit magnets, gas magnets, and so on.

I know some people use search and don't organize their bags, and others pre-prepare their bags every so often by putting one bean in each slot of a bag and then harvesting mainly beans for a while. But the Thing Magnets would be nifty and would please a lot of people who like to be able to glance into a bag and see what is there all at once.

They should be hard and expensive to make, so that they'll be valuable.

  • hmmm, sacrificing a slot in order to limit the possible contents?  I don't think so. there are better ways to solve this problem.

  • I like this idea!  Personally, I prefer thoroughly-organized bags and this would be incredibly helpful.

  • What if the magnet wasn't put into the bag, but onto it? Sort of in the nature of magnets (or a pin, if you will). That would solve the slot issue while also IDing the bag as a type of container, and potentially create a cute little icon to help us visually identify which bag is which.

  • Practically this could be somewhat involved, but suppose you could choose (for now) to include either a specific thing, e.g. an Egg bag that would just hold unseasoned eggs, or a category of thing, e.g. Fruit. Then choose an icon of that thing to represent what's in the bag. An egg bag would logically just have an egg on it, but I could choose from a variety of fruit icons for my fruit bag (Perhaps I'd go with cherries).

Added variation could include specifically identifying up to 16 different types of things to go in a bag, but that seems ultimately unnecessary. Provided the categories are broad enough, you could have your rock bag (for mining), your fruit bag, your egg bag (seasoned included), etc. It wouldn't work for every scenario, but it would be a nice edition to tool boxes and spice cabinets.

The magnet should also organize things so no inventory slots are wasted. (You have 100 cherries in one slot and 99 cherries in another, the magnet combines them to make on stack of 199 cherries)
