  • Agreed!  I was thrown off by it at first but I like it a lot more than the old theme.  But that might just be do to how often I'd heard the old theme XD

  • From the change log:

"A whole new style of music has been added to the game. To catch a listen, head over to Alakol, Salatu or Rasana. We call it "The Highlands".4 hrs ago"

  • I am thrilled to no longer hear Frantic Banjos in my Salatu home. :)

  • Thank you! It's wonderful. I've turned up the volume again.

  • It is awesome. :D Not quite enough to tempt me back to Salatu... but pretty darn close. I think it might even be my favorite, second to bog music or Ilmenskie Deeps music.

Alakol is the best place to live!!

  • Yes, it's great music! Love it!

  • Beautiful music! Is it Danny's? (There's a banjo somewhere, so I guess it is.)

I liked all segments, but loved the bodhrán+wind+Pink Floyd one. ;-)

    Oh, and the seagulls.

    And everything else, really!

More than ever: why doesn't TS offer to download the music? As part of a subscription? For an extra payment? Free for all?

[ETA: Going through it for the second time in a row I saw it's 14 minutes of music. Well, I care for such things...]

  • Hmmm, while I like that it changed (and I truly appreciate all the work and love that Danny puts into the music), not sure I personally liked what it changed to.

Will we ever get an opportunity to pick our own music in game?  Wish we could just have the original tutorial music as an option...I soo love that snappy tune version!  I got to the point that I downloaded the snappy Groddle tune and just listen to that...it's cute, quirky, and fun.

So much of the music in world either really creeps me out (the swamp tune) or gets me wigged out because I think something bad is about to happen (new music in Alakol/Salutu).  Would love it better if we had channels to pick from - Eerie music, light upbeat quirky music, country/banjo music, etc.

  • new music -loovee NEW .
I would love to see new music for each individual land -someday --but for now , new music for these 3 Highlands is GREAT! (maybe,in future, to have the individual land musics - like the 3 highlands- each one could be made slightly different-but are all "of a theme"? )
Am hoping for Bortola to get a change in music - really really really hoping. REALLY! :D

  • Love the new music, esp. since I teach highland dance. But if there are seagulls, I want a beach with boats. Just sayin'.  :)

  • I can see why one staff member moved to Salatu to hear this round the clock.  I found myself just outside the Salatu subway station just leaving the game window open while I did other things.

  • The music in Alakol, where I live, makes me feel like I'm living in the north of Scotland or Ireland. I totally love it!

  • Gosh, I feel like I'm really out of touch here, but I don't like it at all.  I live in Salatu and I've now had to turn OFF the music slider so I don't have to hear it (and then remember to turn it back on when I leave the area so I can hear the music I do like).  It's depressing and horrid to my ears, like an electronic heartbeat interspersed with metallic clangs.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear some people like it, but it's not for me.
(UniquelyPrime, I like your suggestion that we might choose our own music for our homesites, at least.)

  • I live in Rasanna, and absolutely adore the new music!!! It really makes me feel as if I've found a home at last!

  • I like the new music a lot, but parts of it don't feel like a fit to the context. There is tension and suspense in the music that, for me, just doesn't go with walking around picking cherries and petting pigs.

  • I really like the new theme (but I feel it could use some uilleann pipes). It's very Celtic fusion, I guess you could say...

Eleanor, I dunno if you listened to the whole thing, but it seems to me like only one part is just drums and metallic clanking (part 7.2). The other parts are richer.

I really can't wait until the whole world is fleshed out with different themes. Looking forward to the Aranna theme...

  • It's driving me crazy; it's really not suitable as background music.

  • I love the cellos, especially in counterpoint with the whistle/flute! But I do agree that parts of the loop seem a bit... tense. I think Danny's done editing on released music before, though, so it'll only get better!

  • 0/100 FAIL

It's the nicest thing I have been able to think of for the past 15 attempts to write a response.
Posted 12 months ago by Woochi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not fond of it either.  This is a poor imitation of real Irish/Scottish music.   The melody-less parts with the wind and drums make my Salatu house feel cold and uninviting.

  • Personally I really love the new music.
Posted 12 months ago by Sparrow Odele Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's way better than the hell-banjo, but there's something omnious and cold about it I don't like. Not in my house, at any rate.

  • The music parts of the rounds are great Danny ,Thank You! But not enough music in it - I freeze alot in games and with long pauses in the music I get a fright that I froze. Please add more to it so i feel like doing a Scottish jig :)

  • Oh yeah I love it too!!!  I hadn't realised it was new really, I thought I just hadn't heard the Rasana music because I always just listen to other stuff lately (sound volume: UP music volume: OFF music.google.com > play lol).  ^_^

Thanks guys.  The music I have at home now whilst organising bags, petting, gardening, etc. is really enjoyable to listen to.  <3

  • Thanks for the feedback; complements and critiques alike.  It's true it can sound ominous, now that you mention it! D'oh!  Maybe it's the lurking rooks!  Perhaps those parts can get toned down a bit.  All the sections are short files,  and they always need something to connect them. This time I used the drums, maybe I can find something "lighter".

Initially we were thinking of putting the drum/wind section in between every section as a break from the more melodic stuff.  Probably a good that didn't happen! :D

Griselda, those "seagull" calls were made by fiddle and I couldn't resist using them.  Are they not so much into cliffs?

Also, I agree that it would be great to have a palette of music to pick from for the houses. The ambient music is more for the surrounding geography anyways.  Hopefully one day, we'll be making our own tunes right in game and sharing those!

  • Appreciate that you have a thick skin Danny for the critiques (and I fall on that side for the new music)...we all know you musicians are the 'sensitive' types...love that you are putting a great creative fingerprint on all that is Glitch on the melody side and appreciate all the heart you've put into the music for Glitch.

Agree with you that we all look forward to the future creativity that allows us to compose our own tunes in game, and being able to pick them to meet our personal desires, needs, wants...

It is interesting that we all have different personal tastes...especially when it comes to music, and different areas in Glitch may evoke very different emotions with a desire for similar music to continue to evoke those same motions.  I fall into the realm of I love the soothing parts of the new music, but aspects of it build to such a climax, that my poor little glitch is ducking looking for that imminent rook attack and in general it totally stresses me out.  I play Glitch to relax, and the gray boring Alakol/Salatu fjord areas have me thinking of a more somber or at least relaxing tune throughout.

  • I haven't even heard it yet and I'm glad -- the Groddle music is so ubiquitous (and gets so bored into my brain)...  yay, off to listen!
Posted 12 months ago by confowsled Subscriber! | Permalink
  • When it comes to music everyones going to have a different opinion. I love all the music except the Groddle, and I used to like it, just very tired of hearing it now. As a musician I appreciate the Uralia music, and the bog music, where I live now. I play with the sound on low and never get tired of hearing it. It's just backgroundy enough and changes frequently enough to not get annoying when you've heard it for like the thousandth time.

I love, love, love the new music. Makes me want to move out there, but I don't want to give up bog living yet. My husband (the bassist) and I both love hearing the bass. The music did not provoke any ominous feeling for me. I can see how it could, but didn't for me. I think it goes well with the more serious feel of the region.

  • You know what would be really cool? If on streets that led from one area to another, the music had hints of the music of the ajoining area in it. I just love video game music! It adds so much ambiance. I can't stand playing games with the sound off.

  • If you have the music turned right down, there are some annoying clicks that sound up above the general music - I've listened carefully and it must be the bodhran player hitting the edge of his drum. I find it very distracting and irritating :(
Posted 12 months ago by lilkitty Subscriber! | Permalink
  • lilkitty, you're right, they are hits on the edge of the drum.  They're a lot quieter now.

Also, ocean waves are the new transitions for the different sections.

    Happy New Year!
