  • @Stoot; others:
I was not, and likely will never be the 'must win all featz!' guy.
I like to help; I've already invited all of my friends I thought would enjoy here.
    Some are sticking!
And yeah, I'm not going to randomly email folks on the slight chance they might stick.
Still, it's REALLY interesting that this MAY be the first feat in Ur that the player base didn't snarf up in 5 minutes or less.
Anyway, good team effort @ TS; I love the way this continues to evolve.

  • Terra, why are you trying to make the complaints about the feat sound like entitlement culture whinging?

A massive influx of new players is not healthy for this game, and causes backlash, from both seasoned players, and the new ones.

A database swollen with level 1 players, who might have taken good names, who will never play again, is a bad thing.

And reviews, you have any idea what bad reviews would do to this game, things are delicate enough as it is.

  • While I pretty much agree with every negative post in this thread, I was silly enough to try to participate earlier. And now I have 5 hanging invites that I can't delete--even though I've found out that one of them is an old, lost account that will never be checked and the person I was trying to invite has a NEW email address that they'd really like to get an invite to!

I can understand not wanting a free-for-all with all invites ever (which suggests that perhaps the TS folk weren't quite so naive after all), but taking away the ability to earn more invites over time OR allowing us to cancel pending invites and try again makes this feat not only badly-conceived but also poorly planned even for people who ARE participating.

  • if you'll give me that email address, I'll send the invite. not for the rock, but to help someone that genuinely wants in.

  • I really dislike being randomly invited to games I'm not interested in (happens on FB ALL the time). So I wouldn't invite friends to Glitch unless I had had a proper conversation with them about it first and was sure they would welcome it. I've done that in the past and a couple of my friends joined and played. But that approach is never going to fit in the context of a feat, and I'm not willing to do it any other way.

I also thought this was going to be an in-game-activity thing, and was really looking forward to coming home after a weekend away and participating in the last few hours of the feat, whatever it turned out to be. This is a real disappointment.

Count me on the 'bad move, TS' side of things here :(

  • I'm thinking about just waiting, honestly. Hopefully the invites will go back to normal after the feat is over and then they can join when I DON'T feel like I'm shilling.

Don't get me wrong, I've invited at least 10 people who play between 'casually' and 'obsessively' and I wouldn't mind adding to that number, but all the posts here managed to articulate why participating made me feel uneasy when I couldn't put my finger on it.

  • I'm getting a bitter joy seeing the progress bar nowhere close to the halfway point as this feat of shamelessness draws to its wretched end!
Can we use our petrified rock rewards from the first stages to publicly stone this thing to death?

  • I will say I was kinda shocked at first with this Feat.. it did read kinda spammy/slightly Zanga to me. But not in the extreme "OMG, TS is turning into Zanga". I believe they are far from that!!

I didn't participate. But not out of spite. Simply because I don't have anyone that I think would enjoy playing, at this time. My best friend that is a gamer already plays (in fact it she introduced me to the game). She likes to plays in a more casual way, and I like to play a bit more.. but do I feel the need to "have everything/win"? No I don't! I don't need a 2010 Yeti because I wasn't playing at the time, so it would hold no special value to me. Did I work my ass off to get one of the limited ones, yes I did! And that holds value to me because it was my challenge to get.

I think when Feats really take off (become a daily/weekly thing, or whatever).. the game will be filled with rocks and everyone will have fun trinkets in no time at all. During Alpha I had done so many street projects that I was overflowing with trophy pieces.. most were being sold for 450 currants.. and in the end I was just grinding them down for elements. My POV is: Feats are still new.. some I'll do, and some I wont. I'm certainly curious to see where they are going?

This is just my opinion.. and it's not meant to diminish anyone's anger or critiques.

I second this idea. I have thought about this all day and have gotten feat fatigue from it. I just want it to end.

  • It's aggravating that I can 't/won't participate in this feat, I enjoy the feats, and I enjoy playing glitch. Is it frustrating? Yes.  Do I like this feat idea? No. Do I think the number for the goal is ridiculous? Yes. Does it completely ruin my perception of Glitch and TS? Absolutely Not!

  • I kinda wish this feat had been about food, even if i'd have to cook or eat for the first time in a long while. I know I didn't have to do this feat but with the other feats i did manage to enjoy taking part even if it was for five minutes or thirty minutes. I ended up looking at my yahoo contact list to find names.
Before the feat i had invited about a half a dozen people and at least half of them signed up. I even persuaded them in another game to join in. It took a little effort to explain that this was not like other games but that it was worth looking at and it was fun and funny, creative, etc.
I dreaded sending this feat's invites because I figured people would just see TS email and figure it was spam. It's a pity because it may have been fun to send invites if it didn't seem forced and rushed.
I also would have preferred to do something inside the game. That feels a lot more like a glitch spirit type of activity. But that's just my li'l opinion.

  • I like the idea of collectively growing the world.  I'm not a fan of the forced invite approach, but I hope Tiny Speck keeps the concept in their back pocket for future feats.  I doubt after this hoopla they will ever do another invitation based feat, but if they do I think they should set the required number SUPER low.  If instead of 10,243 invites, us glitchen were asked to gather 143 accepted invites with a super cool backstory about why we needed new glitchen, we very well may have seen many thousands of invites (and without the backlash of people feeling forced).

I think that some feats should have really high achievement goals (loved the QQ one!), but sometimes it may be more appropriate for feats just to name a goal that we are all collectively working towards and give us a framework to do it within.  Asking nicely goes a long way with this user base. :-)  I wouldn't even mind if it was an invitation based one, as long as it had a "glitch" spin on it.

I like doing feats.  I like the feeling of camaraderie that working with a larger group brings.  But if I don't get/choose to participate in one I hold onto the fact that there will be more.  And more.  And more still even.  Keep 'em coming, Tiny Speck!

  • @Epilady - hahaha at the address "anti-complainer" complainers.  That's the perfect summary!

@Staff - Can we have our invites reset after this feat?  Or are they eventually reset even if previous friends don't sign up?

I feel like an idiot now, but I impulsively sent out all of my invites to friends who might want to play.  I was talking about Glitch at breakfast club this morning and some friends were curious about it.  So when I logged in a little while ago and saw the feat, I thought "why not?" (before thinking about it more - I actually agree with most of the criticism of this feat) and sent five of them invites in case anyone does want to try it out.  In the past, I've only sent invites to friends who I knew wanted one.  This time, although I think there's a good chance someone will sign up, there's also a good chance no one will.  I find the possibility that I won't be able to invite anyone else in the future kinda frustrating (if that's true?).

  • iCountFrom0: free pudding an inside joke of mine, a comparison I used long ago when I whined about dusty sticks. I use it to remind myself from time to time that this is just a game, and that getting so worked up about a game is just a tad ridiculous. That's all, not name-calling or pointing fingers or putting myself above anyone. Just a reminder. To myself.

  • I sent out invites for the feat, as well...and I'm ashamed.
Not because of the feat (it actually gave me the nudge I needed and I, thrillingly so at the time, got a few interested), but because of all the ill-wishers towards those who participated in this feat and at TS, the awesome company who created this very game that we all enjoy.

I didn't just send out invites for the game (altho I thought the feat wasn't all that bad) but more for the (I thought) great community that we have here - the icing on the cake, so to speak...that sweet, yummy stuff that makes you crave more of the cake.
But it saddens me to think that the icing may have arsenic in it and now I'm wondering if I've made a big mistake.

I'm just hoping that, by the time those I've invited check this game out, all of these nasty hate-filled threads will be out of sight. I, personally, don't want the game tainted for them by these.

  • very much in agreement with you, sgjo (if I read your post correctly)...this event made me dislike the players more than TS. if you think this is an issue to be morally outraged by, holy cow, you are living one sheltered life.

  • I haven't read a single hate-fileld post on this topic. Most people are just expressing their surprise, hurt, or disappointment.

There's been no name-calling or trolling.

This is honest feedback and it has not been mean-spirited, as far as I can see.
Posted 59 days ago by Pascale Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well, I have to disagree that there's nothing hate-filled or nasty about comparing TS to Zynga.

Zynga is the Hitler of gaming.  Dropping the Zynga card is probably a corollary to Godwin's law somewhere.

I'm sure everyone can think of companies in their field or some shady local plumbing firm or something similar where it would be nothing short of a massive insult to be compared to them, especially for one incident that only somewhat resembles the actual criticisms of the hated company.  I'm willing to bet many that feel they were reading nastiness were reacting to just the word Zynga and nothing else.

Anyway, the items really aren't necessary to progress.  Nor will they remain this valuable.   They are absolutely guaranteed to go down in value with every feat.  And feats are apparently here to stay -- pieces are already dropping in value.  Three or four months from now I wouldn't be surprised to log in during a feat and find that not a single one of my friends is participating.  Not because they don't like the feat, but because something else is more compelling that evening than the possibility of yet another artifact piece.

For what it's worth, I didn't participate.  I logged in, popped in to the chat with my closest peeps, said "meh, this feat sucks, huh?" stayed around long enough to get the reward from the previous feat, then went and did something else until this evening.

  • I heard that people who did participate in this quest would not be rewarded because the goal was not met.

People who did participate in this feat (and I am not one) should be rewarded.  Their efforts should not be overlooked when the majority of the community thought, "eh, nah, not something I want to be a part of." To top it of, TS states that this quest was basically impossible and a bad ideal

I hope that I was misinformed on this matter.
Posted 59 days ago by Rennie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Rennie: I disagree. It was said at the start that a certain minimum was required, as with the other feats. This minimum was not met. Therefore no rewards

If getting a reward is your sole reason for taking part in  a feat, wait until the minimum is reached so that you are assured of a reward. There will be more than enough people for most feats who will be taking part because they want to take part who will be work towards that minimum for you

  • As lame as this was I did invite two people who I didn't think would want to play, and yet they both joined and one is already level 10. So goods things can come from flubs like this. Also, everyone should chill out, drink an earthshaker and go mine sparkly!

  • Thanks Stoot for listening to us, explaining and admitting that you guys missed the boat on this feat. This is what makes TS a great company. I think you have a great business model and I'll happily keep pimping your game.

  • For the record - I am more of a casual player of the game.  I actually ride the subway for transportation reasons and I figure the badge will come someday.  I'll never have time to win a feat.

When I raised the specter of players who must "WIN ALL FEATS" I was discussing people on my friends list who were conflicted because they wanted to work on the feat and try to win it, but it required them to send spammish emails to friends and acquaintances.   These people are highly competitive and can't seem to drop back into a "I'll send a few and who knows who might win?" mode.    I think the take-home is that the feats need to be at least partially looked at through the eyes of the most rabid members of the player base.

  • STOOT   I'm just addressing you Stoot.  No matter what my initial response was to this feat, my response to your reply far out-weighs any negatives.  I appreciate the time you take to respond to all concerns, not just this one.  I'm very glad for the flip-side thinking on this and will certainly look more closely for flip-side before the automatic ptff.  I love Glitch and I want it to succeed big time. I will be slower to get in a tizzy, even if I have played for 8-12 hours in a row (giggle).

    Thank you Stoot

  • I'd just like to say that the feat didn't bother me one bit. TS is a company, Glitch needs players to make money to pay salaries. I get it. Encouraging players to invite new players is something all games do -- and most other businesses as well. If anything I'm outraged by the outrage over this feat.
Posted 58 days ago by Hydi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • After looking over some peoples replies here, I gotta say it is impressive how angry some people got over this. The only real downside to this feat was that it didn't affect us personally in game play.
I see people saying they lost "trust" and "respect" for TS over this? Really?
Because they decide to give a bonus to an action that has been available to every player for ages?
No one was told to spam, or bug people who wouldn't be interested.
It was a simple option to do or not.
These Feats are for us to do some things collectively in order to open new areas and aspects of the game, the leader boards and bonus and artifacts are extra if you ask me.
You don't have to go bug-eye crazy trying to be #1.
Anyhow, not to rant at the ranters, I just think people need to chill a bit and take a look at their own expectations for these events. This is an awesome game we are all a part of, but not in control of. Roll with it and enjoy.

  • Will there be any prizes given out to the people who did participate in this feat?
I was under the impression that everybody who participates in a feat gets at least one petrified rock. I know that the Feat was a bust and the goal was not met, but the prize info says:

"All participants will also receive at least one piece of petrified rock, which may contain ancient artifacts or other treasure."

It seems that we should have gotten something for participating...
    Yes? No?
Posted 58 days ago by Jope Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Jope:

The current feat, so I suspect the failed one too, but with different numbers, says

If the current goal is accomplished, participants will share a pool of 1,234,577 iMG, 1,234,577 currants, 1,234,577 mood, 1,234,577 energy, and 1,234,577 favor with Zille, according to their contribution. All participants will also receive at least one piece of petrified rock, which may contain ancient artifacts or other treasure.

I think you will find the bit I have bolded refers to the second sentence too. Context is all here and you shouldn't read  that last sentence out of context

  • @terrasig

NO, this is not just a game.

This is a corporation, this is people's jobs, that they should take seriously, this is the livelihood of many people, dependent on the reputation they make.  To players, it's just a game?  Maybe, but it's also social interaction, and other people.  To call it just a game, is to say that the actions of everybody else do not effect you.  And maybe you are alone, on a home street with no links anywhere else, and never go out in the world.  I don't live like that.  I interact with others, and I try to make the experience as good as possible for everybody I meet.

@slug  Did you actually read the rest of my post, or did you only quote that part so you could laugh at me?  I backed it up rather well with reasoned statements about how a rapid influx of players is not a desirable outcome in a beta game.

Do we want endless September to hit glitch?
Posted 58 days ago by ICountFrom0 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I pretty much thought the statement was ridiculous enough to invalidate the rest of the point.

same with the statement you started your last post with. in my humblest of opinions, you need to step away from the computer, take a deep breath, do something else..
Posted 58 days ago by Slugbug Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "just a game" is a person, playing by themselves, with no other humans effected in any way.

This does not happen anymore, it is not a realistic view of how the world works.

If I choose to look at this from the point of view of the effect the feat has on the reputation of a company, and the livelyhood of those people working for the company, it's simply a non starter for you to try to pretend they don't exist.

It's a non starter to try to pretend that everybody on every street, isn't real.

This is the same core view that gives the two sides to the old herb garden dispute, on one side the self view, "it's just a game, I can take any herb I want" and on the other the community view, "I should help, because there are others here"

I would say that I don't feel the way you think I do about this.  I simply pity you for the inability you have to see that the actions you take, even when it is "just a game" ripple onward to others.  Just pay it forward.
Posted 57 days ago by ICountFrom0 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • of course I understand that in-game actions have effects on other people; I'm not an idiot. my original point was that this particular context doesn't warrant the level of scrutiny that people are giving it. I summed this up with the euphemistic "it's just a game."

    ok I'm done.
