How does the rook fit into Glitch as an overall game?

I dont' mean logistically, but more philosophically.  I mean, most of the game involves being kind to trees, animals, and other players, lots of cooperation on many fronts, little or no violence and lots of heart-ish outlets, but then there's this (very low) chance that you could be subject to a violent attack that disrupts the game, hurts the critters, etc. It just doesn't seem to fit in with the overall feel, even if you can justify it narratively to some degree (although it's not clear what an "attack on imagination" means, really).

Am I missing something?  I know that the game is new, so might there be some future plans for larger conflicts, or optional combat-type zones/quests/activities, or is this rook business just sort of the odd man out (the dark shadow in a sunny meadow, so to speak)?  even the Unseen quest is just a little spooky or maybe sorrowful, but the screen turning red, dazed piggies, etc. is pretty jolting by contrast.  I'm not particularly a delicate flower, I'd just like to know how the developers see this fitting into the rest of their vision...

  • I think it would be a little too saccharin without some threat of danger, even if it is small. It's kind of exciting to think about fighting together against something that could disrupt all of the cuteness.

  • The rook attacks don't directly affect the players themselves. It was originally planned that you could be rook'd and other players would have to revive you, but that was scrapped at some point. Think of it as an attraction that you can either watch from the sidelines, or participate in yourself. The defeat of a rook can't be done alone, so add this to the heaps of things that must be overcome as a group of Glitches.

  • I don't know but the rooks terrify me.  -_-'

Also, I like Zu's response.  Something to band together for... fits into Glitch nicely methinks.

  • You can also rook areas with a 12-sided die so people explore and tend areas they wouldn't bother to visit... this way giving more excitement to the game and people.

Not that I do that :3

    what? heaps.

it doesn't fit. it's not suppose to fit. the thing is... we shouldn't be questioning why or why not the rook fits thematically. we need to be asking hard questions about why. what is their motivation. are they just mindlessly against the giants? maybe they're trying to wake us up. maybe we're stuck in some dream world where we're placated and told to donate... don't ask questions. just give us whatever you make. oh and the rook is bad... just because. don't ask questions. just do what you're told.
