CHANGE "...enter your house..." OPTION !

While this wasn't an issue in BETA, I now receive at least 2 requests a day by random people asking for entry into my home. Some people are just curious, but others appear to be just plain conniving and I am 100% sure I'm not the only one having this "random knocking" trouble.

I'd like to recommend the following:

1) A DND (Do Not Distrurb) option to ignore anyone and everyone who is knocking at the door.
2) Have the current system popup asking to let someone into your home require 2 confirmations.
3) Have the location and/or coloration of the popup asking to let someone in changed.
4) Lock items to yourself so even if someone does get in, they cannot touch your things.

The FOLLOWING image illustrates how the invite looks and how easy it is to accidentally click on it when you have other popups going on as well.

Unfortunately for me, I accidentally allowed someone into my home yesterday and they took quite a bit of things, leaving only earth and grains where the items used to be. So how could someone like me accidentally do this? Well, it's easier than you think!

Yesterday I attended a beta friends party in Alakol. While in the conga line and chatting, I clicked "No Thanks" to an invite to another party chat, what I didn't realize immediately is that I ALSO clicked the "Check" to allow some random passer into my home (same X,Y coordinates). Once I did realize what happened (10 seconds later), I logged out to kick them from my home. Unfortunately for me, they had already gotten several musicblocks and gems from my floor, leaving grain and dirt behind.

In all honesty, I'm not overly upset after losing ~10k currants in items, but I am upset over the fact that there are people that effing lazy and malicious playing this way... especially with a game that is so easy to advance in. I know I shouldn't be surprised, it still irks me.

NEVER LET ANYONE INTO YOUR HOME!!!

  • Technically they have to go through a lot to get in, but their ability to be in there without you being present FIRST is an issue. The item locking for dropped items should be able to be made permanent in your home, or at least under player control.

  • Well said C0mad0r - I agree that there should be a stronger security system in place. I am constantly saying No to all of the random knocks on my door. A Do Not Disturb sign would be most welcome. There are For Sale signs on the empty homes, I don't see how this couldn't be switched over into another sign.

When it comes to letting strange Glitches into ur home, just say NO-NO!  :D

  • This is pretty screwed up. I agree that we need a better interface for allowing / not allowing people into your home. It also sounds like you are prompted with this even when you aren't in your house?

I thought you could only "knock" when someone was actually home. If this has changed, that could also be a big part of the problem.

In light of this, especially since it sounds like a stranger was in your house, I would consider confronting them directly and asking them to return your stuff - (taking ANYTHING not offered in someone's home should be an obvious no-no). If they refuse, report them.

Just a general reminder to everyone: Stuff locked in cabinets is only accessible by you. When you're purposely letting people into your home, be confident that you can keep your valuables safe in storage.

  • I don't know why people keep complaining about this.  I would be happy to have a visitor, but apparently I am not interesting enough - nobody ever knocks on our ( sharing a house ) door :(

If you don't want people over, just don't let them in. I usually let people in, I don't think that everyone here is just trying to steal all your stuff.. A little bit of trust :)

    ...

I am still waiting impatiently for a roommate / give a house key feature.

  • @Xev all you need is to be online, they can knock on your door no matter where you are in Glitch.

  • Sometimes there isn't room in the cabinet, and somethings need to be left out to work. Feeders and collectors in this case. I had someone grab a collector I had invited in my home once. He dropped it when asked (I had 2 so I gave it to him for his honesty).

@MonkeyPantz - send me an invite :) I'll happily stop by.

  • Yeah, a DND sign would fix the whole mess.

  • Even better (for me, anyway!) would be an option:  DND [anyone], and DND [non-friends], or let us come up with an exception list for the DND.  I don't intend to ever let strangers in my house when I'm not there (probably not when I'm there, either), but I do let some of my friends--who will only pet my piggies and water my trees.

  • Holy crap! How do you guys get visitors? No one ever knocks on my door.   D: I am unloved.

  • This is going to be more of a problem as newbies come in who don't realize that the houses and the things inside them belong to real players, and are not just part of the world for them to interact with.  I can see someone knocking on a door in curiosity, being let in, and assuming that meant they could take what was there, as they would in a dungeon crawl.  I keep all my valuable items in the cabinet, which holds more than you think if you stock it with bigger bags. c0mad0r is right that the notification feature could be fixed, however.

  • @Kitwryn - send me an invite and I'll visit. :)

@chilirlw - What happened to @c0mad0r was done by an experienced player. I was in IM with him about it after it happened. The person knew EXACTLY what to take. They left things that were less valuable but a new player would not know their relative worth in game (like taking one key out of several available). They knew the how to "game" the existing UI to pull this off. They had probably been doing this a while. I think there were similar complaints during previous pre-release tests.

  • So, I put in a ticket referencing the person I believe was responsible for taking my stuff and the response back was that I would not know their fate or the outcome. I expected as much to have happen, but none the less think that we need it to change a little.

In hindsight, I should have put this in the ideas section but also feel not many people look there hehe.

  • It is only since the game went live that I have been experiencing this problem as well. Strangers knocking at my door. I fear letting them in especially when I am not at home - just like the real world! I can see me coming home to NOTHING!! Unless you recognize the person at your door - JUST SAY NO!!

  • I had some random people previously. I also had someone I let into my home steal a crapton of music blocks because I couldn't kick them out. Huzzah for the devs for creating the kick out function.

I have had 3 knocks today from people I don't know. Um..no...you can't come in. Sorry. But...all my neighbors on my block have free reign of my house. Because I know them and love them and would give them each a key if there was such a thing.

If you have nothing in your house that isn't nailed down (i.e. in a cabinet), don't worry about letting people in - who cares. It's not like they can trash it. But if you're an OCD Hoarder (hello kettle) don't do it. Just don't -- unless you know the person well.

  • I would not let anyone either, but I was once on the flip side.  I was the only one on my street for a LONG time.  When I finally got a neighbor,  I went and knocked on his door.  He let me in even though he was not there (we were not friends before this).  I left some housewarming gifts and left.

But I could have been a bad guy.  I was actually surprized he let me in.

  • I accidentally knocked on someone's door today, so while there definitely seem to be connivers out there, I suspect that some folks are door-knocking by mistake. Heck - I know better, and I still goofed. Good thing the person wasn't online...that would've been embarrassing. :P

  • You can put bags into the cabinet, so your 18-slot cabinet can actually hold 288 items. So, basically, put stuff in your cabinet. Use some sense.

  • DND seems like a cool option to me, sorry this happened to you, mistakes happen and this could easily happen to anyone.  I also like the idea geekgurl mentioned about a key.  It would be cool to have other close friends allowed permanent access into your home

  • I suppose majority of the problem with erm, home intruders is that things like trees and crops can be taken, as well as piggies and remote herding equipment. They might even chop down or harvest & clear trees.

I think locking doors or the aforementioned "Do Not Disturb" would be a good idea.
Posted 15 months ago by Zurin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Actually anyone else in your house cannot access your crops/herbs. I know because a friend of mine has a herb garden, I have a crop one, and we figured we could use the others instead of community gardens. But you cannot water, hoe, plant or harvest anything in the garden of another house. As Zurin mentioned though they could chop down or poison your trees.

I think I've had one random knock, but a a friend has had quite a few. I never let anyone into my house that I don't know if I'm not there. And even if I was there, I'm not sure I would let them in as it would be too easy to take stuff. If someone wants to visit or be neighbourly then it isn't too difficult to send an instant message first.

  • I just had a knock from a total stranger tonight/this morning. They had a long name I couldn't track town or I'd have messaged them. But I was in Chakra Phool MILES from my house.

  • I find it useful to allow people in when I'm miles away - but like others I've never had a stranger knock at my door. In fact no-one has ever knocked at my door that I haven't actively invitied to visit.
Jiimy-nae-pals that's me (.... maybe it's time for another name change lol!)

  • I once had a Stalker.  I guess he was homeless because I found him sleeping on my doorstep a couple of times.  He (or possibly someone else) would knock when I wasn't at home.  I would refuse entry only to have him knck one or two more times.  He never "spoke" to me or befriended me.  Eventually he quit coming.  But yes, you can let them in when you are not home.  This is sometimes helpful especially when friends are helping you move.

  • I think a "safe" list would be cool. Friends to water my crops, etc. I also like if they are not on the "safe" list they can't get in, even if I for some reason click "ok" to let them in. Like setting up a router with an MAC ACL., sorry I work in IT ;)

  • I have accidentally knocked on my neighbour's door a couple of times. Maybe we also need to make it more difficult to knock on someone's door other than just 1 click.
