Do we really want these changes with the trees??

There's been a couple of major changes in the tree ecology since reset, and I'm wondering whether they reflect what the community wants or more reflect the desires of just a few.

1)  Someone is working their way through Ix replacing spice plants with gas plants.  Last I looked Groddle Ladder, Baby Steps and G. C. Way were 100% gas while Flipside was half and half.  East and West Spice are still 100% spice, but overall Ix is now nearly 50% gas.  I have no idea whether the person who is doing this intends to keep going with this transition or whether they are about done, thinking that Ix should be equally represented by gas and spice.  Does anyone want to own up to being involved in this and share their rationale?  While I have nothing against gas plants per se, Ix has always (at least as far back as I go) been spice, and, as a Glitch professional chef who consumes a tremendous amount of spice to make the meals that keep the miners mining, I have made nearly daily forays through Ix to gather the spice my cooking requires.  I have to teleport in to do my gathering, and I am personally distressed to be able to gather only half as much spice per trip.  What do others think?

2)  My home is in Salatu, and (to the best of my knowledg) the heights of Salatu have always been bubble tree country.  However, since the reset, there appear to be nothing but fruit and bean trees throughout the region.  Since I didn't get back to Salatu for several days after reset, I don't know whether these trees were here at the start, were planted into patches, or were planted after killing off bubble trees.  This issue is not nearly as serious as the Ix situation, but I personally feel the bubble tree is the natural denizen of the heights (as it was before reset), and, frankly, I find that fruit trees high in the mountains look positively bizarre.  They would never survive in the thin, cold air.  Your opinion?

  • I see that at the moment East and West Spice  and Flipside are 100% spice while G. Ladder, Baby Steppes and GG Way are 100% gas.  Seems like a good balance.  Maybe it could be left like that?!?

  • Ix is now 100% spice plants... so much for half and half

  • There are plenty of gas trees around in other areas. In fact gas outnumbers spice. Spice is needed for many quests and for many cooking recipes.. it is pretty essential and the quests start pretty much right away for a newbie. To destroy the spice trees in favor of gas trees is frustrating at the least. Some are saying make Ix half and half. I rather disagree with that in a way. There are many other places that are filled with gas trees vs very few places you can find spice trees. I am the pro-spice crowd and feel that all of Ix should remain spice only, let the other places like Kalarana, Jethimdh, Chakra Pool, and IImenskie Caverns keep the gas plants. I think it more than balances it out and makes it easier for harvesting as well. You want spice go to Ix. Go to the above named areas for gas. Just an idea that would make everyone happy rather than these tree wars to be honest.

I too like to harvest both spice (more pro-spice though) and gas but it would be so much easier instead of running here and running there to get what you need in a good amount for your projects and to auction. I would rather see us all get along. It disheartens me to hit Ix and find more and more gas rather than spice trees and having to settle on less for producing foods I love to gift (I gift newbies with foods and drinks and others with acts of random kindness), and use myself. It also helps to have enough spice to sell to keep me going at the grocery and produce shops since I can't seem to grow enough veggies in my little house.

But we need to get along. Why can't we all get together, both spice lovers and gas lovers and see if we cannot come up with a good solution?

Ix is the only area that is convenient in terms of access from Groddle and access for those of us who cannot jump and climb very well.  "There are plenty of gas trees in other areas" means that anyone who wants gas is required to travel to a more distant area and climb up and down.

My character got stuck in Jedthmadi the other day, and I had to have a friend come get me and let me follow them out because I could not jump well enough myself.  That totally ruins the game for me.  At least with Ix, there is a path through the streets that requires absolutely no jumping at all.

Spice grows in just as many places as gas does.  It is no less convenient to make Ix all gas and say "There are plenty of spice trees in other areas".  Does that make sense to you?  If not, then you can understand the desire to have Ix remain approximately half and half.

  • I liked it when Baby Steppes was all gas and all the other streets were spice. That seemed like a good balance. Now, it's all spice everywhere, which isn't balanced at all. If Ix was suppose to be all spice, then it wouldn't be possible to plant anything else there.

  • Half and half always seemed to work well - all one and none of the other seems unbalanced.

  • West side of Ix is almost all Spice today - I found only 2 gas plants, and I need gas :(

People keep replacing the gas plant on my street with Spice, too, and it's really irritating. I was angry when I first read that people were killing the Spice trees, but now I think it's gone too far the other way.

  • In Ur, there are currently 70 spice trees and 69 gas plants.
I'd say it's pretty stable now.

  • "leave our spice trees in Ix alone"

Our? Hmm. I'm a half-and-halfer -- and a veteran of old tree wars on Ix, replanting spice in E/W Spice -- and I think gas works both aesthetically and functionally on the Baby Steppes / Groddle Ladder side of Ix, with Flipside as a transitional area between spice and gas.

  • Lucidess, would you mind doing a gas run for me?  I can't get to the gas in the places it is now.
