To the powers that be.

I'm not a Facebook fan. Is there any way we could send an invite to our Twitter followers?

  • Ditto on the Twitter invite. I don't use Facebook.

  • I would go ahead and say invites should support e-mail.

  • There's another thread and this is asked and addressed in some of the replies to it. I think a dev says that eventually they plan on a way to invite friends through email.

Edit: There are some replies in this thread: beta.glitch.com/forum/gener...

  • Yes! eventually we will allow invites by plain old boring email. See my answer here for why thins are the way they are now: beta.glitch.com/forum/gener...

  • Eric, that doesn't actually address why we can't invite friends who are on the waiting list via email instead of  both of us having to use Facebook.

  • Both of my daughters have been unable to connect to Facebook. I was going to send them invites.... but since they can't connect I can't send them.  =(
They are having the same problem I had.... the box pops up but it's empty, the little thing just spins and spins and spins....

They are using their own computers. One is in a different state from me. So, it's not just our ISP or anything like that.

  • Windborn, I don't think Eric's trying address that — we just haven't finished everything that we eventually plan to do. He's explaining why we did it through Facebook first :)

  • If this tweet is accurate, I'd like to hear more about why email invites are not available.

"Indeed, it is looking increasingly likely that Glitch will be invite-only even after launch."

  • Hmmm that's interesting. Any reason given why leaning towards invite-only after launch?

  • Because we want to grow things at a reasonable and measured pace, and not overwhelm the world or the community with a deluge.

  • Huh?  Could we please get whoever is tweeting for @playglitch to clarify what this means?

Facebook connect is now & will remain optional

As far as I know, what stoot said earlier is still true:  both you and your friends have to be on Facebook in order for you to invite them.

  • I didn't write that tweet, but someone asked:

"When you go live, will people have to have Facebook to play? (I want to invite my husband, but he is anti-Facebook.)"

    And the full response was:

"Nope: Facebook connect is now & will remain optional (we just use it to make it easier for people to find their friends)."

So I'm not sure what needs clarifying, but there are many people playing the game right now that do not have facebook accounts. That will always be possible. For people to invite their friends, we do require facebook; but we also invite lots of people who just sign up on our site to be a tester, no facebook involved.

Again, in the future there will be more invite options; for now we've only implemented player invites through facebook. We understand this can be frustrating, but as of now we are not suffering from a lack of testers, so we're not spending time building ways for people to join. But we will, promise!

  • Thanks eric.  That at least makes it clear what we should expect and when.
