New Butler Commands

Your butlers have been studying hard at night school, and they have learned some new tricks!

First of all, if you are not in your home street when a visitor arrives, your butler will send you an IM to let you know.

Secondly, there are some new IM commands available:
* 'who' lists all the people on your street
* 'tell him', 'tell her', or 'tell them' tells the butler give a message to the most recent person who entered the street. (The message is visible to everybody, but mentions the name of the person it is directed to.)
* 'announce' will cause the butler to say something (visible to everybody in local chat)
* 'quit' tells the butler to stop IMing you about visitors
* 'resume tells the butler to start IMing you about visitors

Thirdish, you can type /butler in local chat to open an IM window with your butler.

Some other notes:
Many commands do NOT work if you are in a different location from the butler. If you ask for help while you are not in your home street, your butler will give you the list of commands that DO work while you are away from home.

We hope you enjoy these improvements!

  • Please tell me how to make the butler stop Im'ing me twice a minute to let me know someone else is on my street. I get a high amount of traffic (not bragging) and this is a nightmare for people with lag.

What I do want is the ability to re-generate the list of people who have visited in the last 24 hours and for the butler to remember ALL the people who visited and and not just list 10 and then forget the rest.

Sometimes I lose my visitors list due to refresh or change of street and have to remember to write down who to visit

  • According to the post:

    * 'quit' tells the butler to stop IMing you about visitors
Posted 4 months ago by Not a Princess Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Cleops it says up there that you should go to your home street and talk to your butler, tell him "quit".

At least from what I understand.
Posted 4 months ago by deadkat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It didn't work. Kept saying there is nobody on your street any more. I will try again in a sec.

EDIT: He seems to remember for a little bit until I change streets/visit someone else. I'll see if he reverts back again. Maybe trial and error.
UPDATE: It appears I will have to tell him to quit (me) every now and again. Sometimes I get the tell me when to resume message

  • Cleops, can you do me a favor and submit a help case for that? (It's supposed to stop forever until you say resume.)

    Thanks!

  • This is great! Could the butler also tell me when someone leaves? I saw three people arrive in quick succession, made an announcement, and then checked who was there -- and it said nobody. This way I won't be announcing to nobody.

  • Maybe I'm missing something, but how are any of these commands the least bit helpful? Why do I need to know the exact second someone is on my street? Why does my butler need to tell the group that might be on my street something when I can certainly do it in chat or in person if I am there?

  • Forever? Oh, I just assumed it was until browser refresh. That's great then. It seems to be behaving well at the moment but I will log a bug report if it happens again. Thanks so much

Lhyzz - they were probably only on ur street for a second as they would have then entered your tower
Posted 4 months ago by Cleops Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks Cleops!

Holly Waterfall -  some people think it's fun to control their butler from far away. And some people might want to go home to talk to their visitors. If you don't like the new commands, just don't use 'em!

  • It could also help if you trying to sell stuff in your tower! Just sayin'

  • This might be totally over the top but if we could receive these notifications and have the ability to control our butlers via glitch hq that would be great.

  • Octo — in the fullness of time, your dreams of remotely controlling your butler are likely to come true.

  • Will these commands be available on the butler's main menu or on the butler's help options soon?

NVM. I see the commands now that I'm away from my home. Cool, cool.

  • I commanded my butler to dance, though I was in Guillermo Gamera Way. He did. GOOD Biblio Tecario! :)
    LOVE this.

  • A handy undocumented feature: when you get an IM that says "So and so has arrived on your street" you can reply with just "say hi" and then … the butler will do what you just said. I like that one and use it a lot.
Posted 4 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh, and most commands work with single letter shortcuts, so I can do stuff like IM the butler "a Stoot is handsome" and then little Martina will say "Stoot is handsome". Never gets old.

  • Wondering if we could get a command to get them to stop the random babbling when I'm on a home street?
Posted 4 months ago by MG Botia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you're on someone's street, and they talk to you through their butler, there's no easy and swift way to directly talk back to them. One can leave a message with that butler sure - but the player wont get it until they return home, that's not really swift.

if you click on the butler, or in the text box, click on the link for the butler where it spoke to you, there's no option to open an im with the player - could we have that added please onto that butler?

  • Needs to be "tell/t <player> <message> :P
Posted 4 months ago by Lorris Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Klikini - I wanted to do that, but it's really hard to tell what's part of the player name and what's part of the message since lots of people have spaces in their names.

  • This is great fun. Now I can get the beefeater to warn visitors if their beheading has been ordered. And then get it to do a zombie to taunt the soon to be beheaded. Thanks!
Posted 4 months ago by The Pheebs Subscriber! | Permalink
  • erm yes.   I like the idea of getting a message when someone enters my street but if I'm going to im the butler to say "hi" I could probably just as easily do it myself since the name of the person is linked to the butler's message.     If the butler says hi, then the visitor will know the owner is online and informed of your presence on their street.

Its interesting, but I don't think I'll be using that feature.

  • once again thank you guys for everything!  this game is starting to get really refined...

i'm even confident that eventually he'll even be able to make me a sandwich when i get home and i'm tired from mining :)

     Seriously though, great work!

  • Awesomesauce!!! I saw some of that yesterday, and told Zinna to announce "hello visitors" when there were several on my street, and "hi <name>" when a friend was there. (Kind of hoping to freak them out a bit.)

  • Aww, I love the remote commands! Cuddletron can now dance a dance of welcoming whenever there are visitors!

I wish there were more ways for glitchen to interact with their own butlers, though. They're just the right size to hug! Sidling up close to mine and having her announce "I'd hug you if I could, Melismata" is just not the same.

  • I really like the new butler commands, but I agree with Melismata: how about a few more conversational response? My butler gets very confused when I say "goodbye"  or "how are you" or "I love you." I mean, look at him--who couldn't love that little face!

  • I am being gaslighted by my butler.

Hestia (Mnēmē)  I can't decide which Giant is my favorite.

Me: do you need to decide?

Hestia:  I'm sorry, I don't know what you're asking me
    ....

Hestia (Mnēmē)  Do dee da da, shaba do dee da da dee da doo

    Me: were you singing?

Hestia  Hrm. I don't think that's something I can help you with.

I love the new commands, thanks!

  • i like it how it tells you: _____ is on your street, ________ just left. and i love it how i can tell people to KNOCK ON THE DOOR when i'm inside without IM-ing them. i love it! i loc=ve spooking them too! doing zombie from somewhere else.

  • i think we should get a command like this "serve hearty sammich"
Posted 4 months ago by Sad Pollen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Would it be possible to add the new commands to those already listed in the butlers 'help' function please.
Posted 4 months ago by Primevil Shambler Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh, by the way, we added leave notifications ;-)  (Thanks for the suggestion, Lhyzz.)

Primevil Shambler - if you say help when you are not in your home street, you will see help for the new commands.

  • The 'quit" command doesn't work for me at all.  The butler just tells me he can't understand what I am saying.
