dream zone!

so i wrote about this idea in an old 'afk avatar states' thread, but ended up just fueling more love for the afk thing, which, okay *is* really cool! but hey... glitch dream zones!

these would be accessed by going home (or to your campsite, subway station sleeping locker, etc) and interacting with a bed (/tent/tatami mat/etc).

you could take a short nap, a good night's sleep or even an extended hibernation. you'd do this when you're going to be afk or unable to play for some time, and upon your return, a special dream area/quest/mini-game is unlocked.

this would be fun because a) a glitch dream zone would be awesome, and b) it would provide an incentive to step away from the game and get some sleep or fresh air or whatever ;)

the zones could be the dreams of different giants. whereas the world is a collective imagining, these areas would allow you to interact with places that reflect individual giants' personalities.

maybe an associated skill path could be dream walking. early levels of this skill allow you to access the dream zones for short times or in less of an interactive way, or maybe just more basic dreams, while higher levels of the skill allow you to spend more time in the dream, or offer more interactive and vividly detailed dreams.

in closing, i would just like to say, glitch dream zones! :)

  • I like your idea. I think it's weird that we never ever sleep in the game. It would be great to introduce the sleeping notion somewhere.
There could be different bonus zones, depending on the world in which we fell asleep, and/or the lasting of our little nap.
And maybe a few achievements about that.

+ I totally agree with this : "it would provide an incentive to step away from the game and get some sleep or fresh air or whatever ;)"

  • +1 And I like the idea of giant-generated dreamworlds, maybe reflecting the character and interests of the different giants. You could go to the one where you had the most favour or that you donated to last or whatever.

  • i love this idea.

i think it could possibly be represented visually by seeing your glitch get into bed, under the covers .. then a GIANT screen wide thought balloon appears above its slumbering head in which a dream version of the glitch moves around the dream scape while the "real" version of the glitch remains visible below.

or maybe the "real" glitch remains visible under the mega-thought-balloon for a few seconds only, then the balloon expands to fill the entire screen.

  • +1 for all of it. I also think Glitchians who go without sleep for a while should get less productive, like quicker mood decreases.

  • +1 love this idea, especially as a means to unlock Glitch Dream Zone quests that you can only get when sleeping for longer than “a short nap” (which would replenish e.g. 33% mood and 33% energy, and can be done only twice per Game Day). That way, people will be more inclined to go sleep when they actually go sleep themselves: to have a chance of getting a new Dream Zone quest when they wake up and continue playing.

Also, Dream Zone quests could be places where you could potentially do physically impossible things, like fly, or swim underwater or what-have-you. SPACE. Who knows. Well, besides Tii, who’s busily calculating all of these possibilities, I suppose.

  • I like this idea. Would we only be able to sleep at our own houses, though? Perhaps sleeping at a friend's house would also work, thus with forethought and planning you could have a potential network of sleeping locations.
