Ajaya Bliss

Seems they removed the ability to teleport in. Before anyone starts in with the "it is behind a locked door for a reason" or "oh it will make it special again" you can't tell me this was done for any reason at all other than throttling the economy. First they capped bonuses at 30, now you have to bend over backwards to get back in.

This will hurt the casuals, people who have a job or family or can't be on for very long at a time. They can't sit around camping a key, or a person with a key. As for buying the keys, well, When I bought mine earlier in the week on the auction house they were already going for 7k, as of right now there are no keys at all - I bet they sky rocket so you would need to be a farmer there to be able to afford a key to get IN there.

ALL OF THAT ASIDE, a bit of warning would have been nice, I would have stayed camped there instead of porting to my house when I logged out earlier.

  • For those who want the community feeling, I strongly encourage you to check out street building projects. There is a group called New Streets and people use that group's chat to find out about the most current project and its status.

  • Okay, so what's Ajaya Bliss?  :)
Posted 14 months ago by Orbst Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So, re today's mailbox spam: After having opened and sold about 200 of them, they don't seem to be getting fewer and the number on top that indicates how many new messages you have is still the symbol for infinity (is this correct in English? You know, the 8 turned sideways...). Can anyone confirm this? Did I just spend the last couple of hours trying to fill a bottomless well?
Posted 14 months ago by Sumi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • YES. I've been doing the same thing, and was finding the infinity symbol rather discouraging. I would normally expect the little side sliding bar to be decreasing with the amount of mail left in the box... But like you I've sold maybe 200 or so now and that scrolling bar is still the same size. It seems the only thing that is decreasing is my mood and energy as I stand there grabbing notes.

  • Right, so we have both been wasting our time, it seems. Well, I'll just ignore the mailboxes from now on and wait till this is fixed (and Ajaya Bliss is back to the way it was *hopeful*.... no? Aw, shucks...). See? I don't like change for a reason. *still cranky*

  • Current auction minimum for the key is 30k. Camping the spawn point is officially the most efficient way to make money? :( :(

Not true Auspex...   standing inside AB summoning people in for money seems like it might be profitable....

For the record, I find it interesting that this bug that supposedly has been on the radar to be fixed, wasn't fixed until after the big "buy a subscription now, quick!  hurry!" push just before the game opened...

I for one spent a lot of time in AB.  My style of gameplay often had me logging in (in AB), mining sparkly for 10 minutes or so, and then logging out for a couple hours until I could spend a little more time in game...   I didn't care about the cooperative mining bonuses (in reality, my bonuses were rarely above 20 chunks, and usually below 10, so... whoop de doo).  Now that I either need to camp a key spawn, or camp at the door to AB when I want to get in...  why bother?

I understand the need to nerf something here, the AB situation is a bit out of control, but my opinion is that you guys picked the exact wrong way to do it.   A much simpler way would have been to increase the respawn time for the rocks in AB, or removed one or two of the rock locations, but, now AB is just this place that nobody will actually care to go see....

    my 2 cents...

  • Orbst: Ajaya Bliss is a locked street in Ilmenskie Caverns that has like 15 sparkly nodes that spawn. The keys to it spawn randomly in two spots.

  • Wow... I've never been particularly obsessed with currants in this game, and I do already have more than enough socked away to afford a 50K house, but I don't think any previous change in the game has actually made me feel angry the way that this does.

I agree that maybe group mining in AB could be classed as an exploit and this change will reduce the numbers in there at any time to half a dozen people... similar to how it was during the beta.

Maybe I should go away until I've calmed down &, given that I wasn't focused on the money, worked out why this pisses me off so much LOL

  • I agree with snazzle and Mr. Universe.......I think it's time to take a break from the game.

I think the nerf bat has turned into a battle ax on the game.  Not real impressed, lately.

  • I disagree.  I think these small adjustments keep the game more alive -  just so long as some people don't pay a disproportionate price for the change.  The game is still in its infancy, do you want to see all the rules written in stone from the get-go?

  • I'm just adding this to give a slightly different perspective.

I don't like mining, I've never been to Ajaya Bliss. Most players haven't. But I do appreciate actions to address obvious imbalances in resources/gameplay, especially at this early stage when the balance can be thrown off really easily.

I realise none of this means changes aren't irritating. But I knew the Glitch I signed up to play would be changing all the time... and any hack I found would probably get closed soon and I'd have to move on to find the next one. (And there is always a next one.)

  • I kinda have mixed feelings about this. Ajaya is a great place for miners - it's fun working as a team so everyone getst he extra bonus, the community of Ajaya-loyals are all great people, and everyone was able to make some decent cash from the work we were doing down there. And setting it as a point we could teleport to was a great way to jump there from anywhere in the world to hang out with friends and make some money.

But with the locking of the door, it reminds me of just how big this world actually is. I ended up spending more time since the reset down there, instead of out exploring the rest of the vastness of Ur. I'm a miner - but I've got enough saved up from hanging out down there - I'm actually looking forward to heading back out to the outside world, haha. I'll totally be back down in Ajaya and hope someone will let me follow them in - but for now, I'm gonna enjoy the world outside of the mines, haha.

  • I used to hit Ajaya a lot during beta, but honestly the crazy group mining thing is overwhelming for me. So, I've avoided Ajaya since the reset. I hear you regulars - you had a cool community and fun times. But it created a lopsided thing where only those who could handle the sheer number of players would get the opportunity to hit all the sparklies.

All I know is that before reset I *loved* mining and did it all the time. After reset, not so much.

Now I find myself wandering the heights and caves cleaning up the half-mined beryl and dullite that others abandon like interrupted and discarded intentions.

  • I just lost an enormous reason to play this game. I actually have a life, and stuff to do outside of endless grinding for hours, and while the mining cap was frustrating but acceptable, THIS bullshit is anything but. If I can spend an hour a day mining and end up with around 10k to play with, that's great, but now I'll be spending who knows how much time just trying to get into Ajaya to mine in the first place.

Ajaya was fun. It was developing a neat little community that I was getting to know, and in one fell swoop, Tiny Spark destroyed that. Thanks, guys! You also removed about 90% of my reason to play this monotonous thing.

I'll stop now before I get carried away :P

  • I had the teleport, I used it to get into the area, but never stayed in Ayaja for more than a minute or two to watch the little ants scrabble - then I moved into the other areas and mined there to my heart's content.

But it saddens me to hear the words "not working as intended" being thrown about. It's not like game is about getting the phat loot - so if people were socking away the Sparkly by the truck load - who cares? If some peeps found a happy place down there, why make it harder for them to get there?

I remember 1000 pieces of Swedish Furniture probably not working as intended...but 7, 8, however many years later, I remember it, fondly, happily! If this game is supposed to be about growing the world through our imagination - then it must include those for who it means scarpering madly about rocks in one tiny fleck of the world.

  • I finally TP'd into Ajaya Bliss a couple days ago for the first time. All I saw was chaos and overkill and it reminded me of having stumbled into a big private party; I didn't see anything fun or welcoming or worth having finally visited the place. I couldn't wait to leave and never come back.

But hey, it takes all kinds, y'know? And there *is* a great big Glitchian world out there to explore...

(EDIT: Ahhhh neddles, 1000 pieces of Swedish Furniture!  You've brought a very large smile to my face tonight. Thank you.)

  • I just got into Ajaya Bliss yesterday, for the Completist badge.

What did I do? Ask the Glitch Strategy group (the most populous one I joined) if anyone was willing to let me tag them. What helped was that I had just finished a massive food-related quest, so I was able to give my taggee enough food to make up for the energy loss, and gave away the rest to the miners.

So perhaps for those of us who want access, especially if it's just a one-off, this could make a good way to get in? Food for key?

  • Seems to me like following/summoning will become the name of the game to get into Ajaya, and that's not so bad, is it? Contact a player through the mining group (anything that encourages contact between players is a good thing), hand over a reasonable 'toll' (food seems like a good idea to me, an Awesome Stew perhaps?) and get summoned/follow someone in. It's a change, definitely, and changes always take some getting used to, but IMO this game needs a few more limitations. Rare things need to be rare, locked doors need to require some effort to get through. In the end, it'll be more fun for everyone.

By the by, Ajaya is not the one and only ticket to wealth and prosperity in Ur. I have my 50k home in Alakol and a comfortable nest egg, and I have mined a total of 3 rocks in AB since the reset. There are other ways to make your money.

  • AB is not all about money. I have to admit, the money is nice, and I definitely get my 50K house that way. However, that is not the reason I returned to AB all the time after my 50K house.

I like the community there. We mine, we chat a little, we help each other out. I sometime end up chatting too much and miss the rock completely. But it was ok. I have a friend just teleport in to watch the chat. After a couple round of going to AB, I recognize most regular there. This has not happen anywhere else in the game. I have not try road project after the reset. But if it were similar to beta, no one talks nearly as much as in AB.

I never feel like AB is a closed group anyway. If I was watching chat, I often just take whatever people who wants to be in. Now mining in AB just has to be organized, which when you are working and only have small chuck of time available, it might not happen for me at all. And I probably won't get to see all the people I am used to seeing in AB anymore.

Lately there is a lot of changes. They capped the mining bonus, nerf the rube really bad, nerf the desert, and then now this. I like the bonus, the rube, the desert, but mostly all these changes just feel a little annoying. This actually make me sad. I would miss the community there. Let's be honest. It is not all about the money. But without the money as drawing factor, no one would just sit around and hang out.

And somehow, I don't see how this help balancing the world. Before, I pop in and out. Now, if I am going in the AB, you bet I will be armed with 15 empty bag and 1 bag full of awesome stew, and I won't leave AB until I fill them all up. Now it really is about money. Esp if the key cost 30K.

  • Ajala was fun. It was what Henry Lefebvre would called "differential space". It was what Hakim Bey called "Temporary Autonomous Zone". It was vivid, engaging and in fluxus. It was authentic and not a top down design but a bottom up production by the people of Glitch. It was a temporary public space where people liked to hang out. The money was the magnet but it was definitely more than that. Unfortunately it's dead now. I'd like to see this as a creative destruction.

I hope we can find more Temporary Autonomous Zones in Glitch in the future.  Keep looking.

  • Neddles: It's not the mining of so much sparkly that prompts the "not working as intended" phrase from me, at least.

It's simply the fact that most locked areas are not as special (Ajaya was an exception, and perhaps Plexus- haven't been there much) if they aren't locked down from teleport as well. What's the use of a key if you can just teleport into each locked location? Why not just make them open streets if it was intended that you can just teleport in from anywhere?

I don't think this was a nerf on AB mining or anything as it applied to many more places than just AB. AB was just a casualty. It was fixing something that was broken; something that worked properly at one point and somewhere along the line got out of sync.

It's not a nice change from a community perspective for those that went for the company. No denying that. But it's not the end of the world, either, as there are many ways to get in still and many other places to go for socialization.

No, they won't have the same vibe. And the previous vibe from AB will be missed by many. I really believe, though, after people adapt, that it will still be an awesome place to go when you can. Maybe not exactly the same, but still an awesome place. Not dead at all.

The only thing I think might be a nice change to help might be the rate at which the key respawns, and maybe even put in some more hidden spawn points.
Posted 14 months ago by Little Miss Giggles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I too see this as a fix rather than a nerf. In fact, through all of beta I never once ported in b/c I assumed that wouldn't work. (why lock if anyone can spend 2 credits, mapport over, and set as a telepoint?)

The easy money of Ajaya, though it did foster community for some, I think detracted from the game overall. It stunted creativity among new players and possibly gave the wrong impression of the game as a  well.

There will be other places where people gather soon enough!!!

  • Compared to the nerf with the spawn timers becoming random, this is nothing in my eyes. When they changed spawn timers I was so angry I only went to AB a few times and I hated it there. Constantly running around for several minutes to not even be close to the rock or miss it completely isn't fun.

I do think this is an appropriate change, but my problem with this change is that it seems like they could have easily fixed the change months ago during beta, but instead wait until the game goes live and the beta group all bought subscriptions. The timing seems fishy and the way all these changes have been implemented is probably a lot of the problem.

  • Huh. Well, those people for whom Ajaya was the main reason for playing the game...I think you should find a new game? If you find Glitch otherwise boring.

Personally I agree with Tally, Ajaya isn't the only place you can grind, restricting access doesn't really destroy the gaming experience, rather, it makes a special place more special.

And for those complaining that a community was quenched, can't you people form mining parties with said community anywhere else?
Posted 14 months ago by Cefeida Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Cefeida, Ajaya Bliss isn't the only place you can Grind, but that sort of misses the point.

it was/is perhaps the only place where you could/can grind as a group. and have conversation and stuff, and be around lots of other players and not feel isolated in your actions.

i think the decision to nix teleports was a good one, but the idea that there was/is nothing unique about Ajaya Bliss is just, well, wrong.

i can totally see people not liking anything else about glitch other than group grinding, since solo grinding has a very different feel and that's what most [all?] of the gameplay outside of Ajaya is about. projects come close, but aren't accessible to all players, depending on their skill sets and the available project activities.

as for your retort in bold, yes, people can form mining parties elsewhere but that requires energy and organization and isn't as organic. personally, i like having to organize stuff and the complexity and additional communication that involves, the logistics and bla bla bla but i can understand some people who want a low-overhead social grinding experience to be put off by that.

  • Okay, as always, I have come here to reneg.

I have to thank Stoot and the other Tiny Speck staff for setting me free from Ajaya. Having been forced to look into other options to keep myself busy and entertained in the world has allowed me to focus on other aspects of the game and truly make the most out of it. Granted, currants are a tad harder to come by, but that doesn't mean it's impossible for me to keep my wallet healthy.

Also, I really admire Tiny Speck for taking the time to at least set things right (and then some) with people who has set Ajaya as a tele point beforehand and not only givin us 1 tele token, not 2, nor 3 or 4, but SEVEN. SEVEN. MUCH LOVE.

  • I hated Ajaya, personally, despite being almost completely dependent upon it economically (not as a miner, but as an alchemist, and my latest venture, Ajaya Meal Vendor).  I thought it was a poor lookout to newbies who were, admittedly, foolish enough to ask "what's the best way to cash", but then led, almost like slaves, into a dark cave where they slaved away clicking mindlessly like gold farmers.  Truly, this is hyperbole and they were not actually slaves, some even liked it for whatever reason but I'm glad Ajaya is nerfed.  I think people should appreciate how profitable butterflies, barnacles, loam and spice are too.  They're not as communal, but we could MAKE them that way (well maybe if the street projects get fixed).

What I cannot admire is the way it was nerfed.  Sure I got some free TP tokens, but this is more of the typical TS style, sad to say.  What about the greatest room in the game, Plexus?  Why nerf this at the same time?  I'd take five Plexuses over all the rest of Glitch put together.  To say nothing of the obvious fact that this just makes Ajaya more powerful for those who can afford to camp there (alts, alts, alts).  I just don't get this kind of planning.

  • Plexus is supposed to be special, too- there's a reason it's behind a locked door. This change was not solely directed at AB, and Plexus was not the casualty of a change made for AB. It wasn't a nerf at all. It was a fix. It fixed all the places that should not be so easy to get into as a teleport, places that are keyed for a reason.

Maybe it should've been fixed before launch; that point is debatable. But I'm sure they had a lot on their plates preparing for that launch, so I'm not going to judge on that point. They do the best they can, they're the best team of developers I've seen as far as listening and responding to the players, and I know that there's no person alive on this planet that will fix a problem in just the perfect manner to make everyone happy, especially in a community this large.

  • @Quinton Falkner - Protag is correct. I do quite a lot of mining - have since beta - but I generally do a circuit of the caverns and the deeps, avoiding Ajaya entirely. I don't like all the "hurry up and wait" of Ajaya; I didn't when it was crowded in beta and I've barely ventured in there since reset. Just personal preference, but it goes to show that you don't need Ajaya to do perfectly well for yourself.
