The rich glitch diet: do not eat, do not drink

I am sure I am not the only one practicing this diet: I have only very occasionally eaten in the last two months, and I have not drunk anything.

I get my energy and mood from:

1) refill at the beginning of the game day
2) quoins in the ancestral lands (a major source) that I visit 1 to 3 times per game day
3) some high value quoins in the streets
4) meditation
5) emblems
6) icons
7) No-no powder (at the end of the game day)

Because of the maximum of 100 quoins per game day, I usually avoid quoins outside of the ancestral lands.

  • There's even a higher diet in which you don't even need to use icons  or nono.

But you'll have to use no-no as a tool for certain things of course.

  • I just use my Icons mostly.  The only time I eat is when I'm out mining (all my Icons are at home).

When I saw this thread title I must admit I thought it was about the tendency some gamers (not like ME or anything) have of forgetting to eat or drink IRL whilst playing... >_> heh....

  • Mining requires no food at all.  Buy or make a pile of Earthshakers and go to town on rocks 3 minutes at a time.  :)

In most of the mining runs I've made I found my bags to be nearly completely full before I've polished off a whole stack of EarthShakers (which equals roughly 72 minutes of mining and somewhere around 6 broken Fancy Picks).

  • Nerd of Epic - I love making earthshakers but can't stand using them since I just mostly stand around waiting for rocks to spawn in my favourite corner of the mines.  ;)
I did a cost/benefit analysis of them and it's way better *for me personally* to just make them and sell to the tool vendor than make them to use mining.  Also since loading new streets takes sooooo long that by the time I move to a different street the buff has ended.  >_<

  • I have been living off meditation for several weeks now, ever since I moved to the bogs. I quite like it because it stops me from doing "just one more thing". If I've reached Zen or don't feel like waiting to build up energy, it's time to log off.

  • @Nerd of Epic - Drinking Earthshakers is still drinking. For me, it is a distraction, and it costs money to buy those, or time to make them. I'd rather mine for a shorter duration, then teleport to the ancestral lands to replenish.

  • I'm a badge-hunter. I need to eat & drink to achieve the corresponding ones.
Posted 11 months ago by Ulysses Nemo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have been quite confused about food for some time now.  Maybe it's because I don't mine or play for the whole 4 hours of a game day but I haven't felt the need to eat food since I was very low level.  I used to meditate a lot but now Icons take care of all my energy needs.
Posted 11 months ago by Chee42 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Ulisses Nemo - Yes, of course, for the badges you need to eat and drink appropriately. When you have all the eating and drinking badges (as I have had for 2 months), then you will not need to eat or drink, if you follow this diet.

  • See I agree with all of this except for icons. Unless you count the random love which is extremely helpful. If you're trying to save money though it is far cheaper to eat food than to tithe to an icon at higher levels.
Posted 11 months ago by SkyWaitress Subscriber! | Permalink
  • SkyWaitress - I think Icons are cheaper.  Food is worth 1 currant per energy value (you can buy food at auction for cheaper than this, but it should be rare to see it cheaper than about 0.85 currants per energy since at that point it would be better to sell to a tool vendor).  Icons tithe for 1441 at level 60 for four uses, and give between 300 and 1500 energy.  I should be gathering actual statistics, but I'm quite certain the average I'm getting is over 500, which would make them better than paying for food.

  • Except we can harvest our food supplies for free, and after we turn those supplies to more extravagant dishes, we come out with a net profit of energy with no currants spent :D
Posted 11 months ago by Draron Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I believe it is 3 uses for icons before the tithe. I think using the icons is close to the same as eating, or may be slightly less cost effective than awesome stew (1440 / 160 (currants per stew) = 9 awesome stews or 1800 energy).

There's also another strategy not mentioned here. You can simply log off when your energy is done. If you start at 2000+ energy, you can wander around and collect stuff for pretty close to a game day without using it all. If you are processing, say smelting, do it at home and walk around the icons and get Giant Love bonuses and log off when you don't have energy left.

Of course, if you are mining, then you either need to eat or drink Earthshakers. I prefer to eat because it doesn't have the time component. Don't know how much energy you expend in 3 minutes of mining, but I doubt it is as cost effective as eating stew.

  • Humbabella's just using currants as a placeholder to make a point-- one can certainly harvest for free and eat the harvest. Hoever, if one can sell for .8 currants on the unit of energy (which is certainly possible @ tool vendors), then it's a better deal to sell and use the money to tithe, since tithing only costs around .7 currants per unit of energy (assuming 1,441 currants of tithe gets around 2,000 energy, which I'm deferring to Humbabella on).

Plus, that's ignoring RL {tm} costs-- making all that food takes time and hassle while you scrounge around for ingredients, vs. just selling everything as you get it and tithing. . .

I'd probably rather tithe, even if it wasn't a better deal in terms of currants / energy unit.

Humbabella - in spite of the fact that it makes no sense at all, you can quite often find food at .7 currants / unit of energy. Check out
    http://tylersaurus.com/glitch/

As I write this, Kelfin's selling a bunch of stuff (looks like they just got EZ Cooking II) for .5 currants / energy unit.

(But I agree, usually, .8 currants / unit is a good deal)

  • If you want to get as much energy as possible from quoins, you should also consider quaffing elixir of avarice - it raises the cap for quoins to 150 per day!

Edit: unless you count potions as drink, that is.
Posted 11 months ago by Jammie Dodger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If it's only three reveres per tithe then food might be more cost effective.  As I said, I should be collecting data on reveres rather than estimating.  I wouldn't be that surprised if the two options are extremely close to equal (since probably someone at TS can do math).  In reality I usually sell at 70% vendors because I could be doing things with my time other than travelling to the 80% vendors, so there is a good chance I'd be better off just eating the meat.

  • I'd be curious to know whether anyone can pursue this diet without no-no powder. Since I've set myself a goal of not dying, I'm still making and snarfing awesome stews and am not sure whether I could manage not eating or drinking. The diet seems kinda like a goal in itself. Fascinating idea.
Posted 11 months ago by Voluptua Sneezelips Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Voluptua Sneezelips - Believe me when I say that I do not eat or drink. My main source of energy is quoins in the ancestral lands. I am at level 60, so the maximum energy is 2860. Whenever my energy goes around 600, I teleport to Xalanga and I replenish to 2860 in both energy and mood before running out of time. I do that 1 to 4 times every game day.
I only meditate for the achievement, use No-no powder to die and caress emblems to get out of pooped state.
Posted 11 months ago by Ygasuasu Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think everyone is over thinking this as well. Sure, tithing may net you an extra .1 currant/energy ratio, but to do that your going to have to sell at one of the few Tool Vendors, teleport back to your house to get the Icons Giant Love, and then resume what your doing.

If you go the food route, you can harvest while your out on the streets keeping your energy up, while making more than that .1 currant/energy from just tithing in the time you spent traveling to Tool Vendors and your home/energy teleporting alone.

I'm not trying to say any way is better, or that one is wrong. But the difference is minuscule, and the original way (harvesting and eating food) comes with less time constraints and traveling.

  • I've been looking for a way to get back into shape, and this diet sounds like it would do the trick :P
Posted 11 months ago by Rodger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • At lvl 60 I find Icons cheaper than eating food for energy. I did a quick average of reveres over the course of a couple game days and averaged just under 800 energy per revere. You get 4 revere per tithe assuming you don't use the Icon charges for other things or receive giant love.

Basically it averaged out to a bit over half the price of eating food to gain the same amount of energy. It costs 2400 currants to heal 2400 energy using food and just under 1500 to do it with icons.

I should add that this is a small sample size of maybe a dozen or so reveres. More reliable numbers would come from a larger samples size. Like 100 reveres would be a very nice sample but I don't have the patience for it.

  • There is a disturbing amount of "if I mined/harvested/whatever it myself, it's free" in this thread.  Always value what you harvest according to what you could sell it for, even if you place 0 value on your time!
Posted 11 months ago by Bellpepper Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm up to 101 reveres in my spreadsheet now and they average to high 600's.  The number of reveres per tithe is variable and so far averages to 3.7.  I don't think the data sample on either is really large enough to be that confident in the averages (especially because the distribution of the energy values for reveres looks very strange) but over 101 reveres I spent only 0.58 currants per energy.  So you are better off tithing and revering even if you sell your food to a Toy Vendor - certainly no need for the Tool Vendor.

Anyway, I'm continuing to record all the energy totals I get for revering icons and how many times I revere each one before having to tithe.  I'll try to make a more detailed post (possibly a new thread) when I have more data.  For now, though, I feel it is very safe to say that energy from icons is more efficient than energy from food.

  • I think its probably the giant love that is throwing off you number of reveres per tithe. Giant love burns up a charge.
Posted 11 months ago by Melting Sky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • No it doesn't.  You can get Giant love even when your icons are uncharged.
Posted 11 months ago by Scarlett Bearsdale Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I've never used the commands on my icons and never tithed.  I get some form of giant love every time I go home, sometimes several, yet no giant has ever insisted I insert payment to continue.

  • My diet is better - I just take 5 nono's every hour.
Posted 11 months ago by Messy Monster Subscriber! | Permalink
  • At any rate, giant love can't be throwing off my number of reveres because the icons I am using are not on the ground - I carry them around in my bags (aside from Humbaba for whom I have one icon in my bag and ten on my floor).  People typically report either 3 or 4 reveres per tithe, but I get 5 somewhat regularly, which means the number is certainly variable.  My guess is that the actual number if 3.5 (uniform distribution between 2 and 5) but we'll see when I get a larger data sample.
