Heads Up re: SDBs - UPDATE No. 2 - STILL BROKEN

Warning: Even though they thought this was fixed, it just happened to me again!

Per Myles! - They are 99.99999% sure this has now been fixed.

I don't know if many people are aware of an ongoing problem with the SDBs, but since I imagine a lot of people will be using them - and likely trying to add large quantities at once - I wanted to bring this to everyone's attention:

There is a known bug that causes items you are depositing to vanish. For me, it happens when I try to add all of an item in my inventory EXCEPT for one. (I like to keep things in the same place in my bags.) You get the message that all of the item could not be deposited and find that it is all gone from your inventory AND it is not added to the SDB. It doesn't happen every single time, but often enough. I've lost a crapload of resources to this insidious little pest because the staff keeps thinking it's been resolved. The only relatively easy and consistently safe way I've found to add a large number of items to my SDBs is to select to add half at a time. And then do it again. Rinse and repeat.

Please do not jump on me for "attacking" TS. I'm not. I know they are working on fixing this while also working on the other changes and fixes. It has been a royal pain for me, but I'm taking it all in stride. I only bring it up here, now, because I assume people will be trying to refill their previously stuffed SDBs with their mega-stashes of resources. I don't want people to lose a bunch of stuff because I didn't say anything.

  • An easier and faster way to get past this would be to deposit all and then remove 1 from the SDB

  • Why would we attack you for a public safety announcement?
You made a bug report, you posted about it, you want to help people.
    What's not to like?

Reporting a bug is not the same as being a whinger.  We know the difference.
    So, good on you.

    +1

  • Does the bug happen if you add all of the item to the sdb? Because that is what I do and had never seen problem yet.

  • I appreciate the heads up. Last time I looked, something related to this was listed as a known issue in the bug forum sticky post:

"SDBs "eating" items- You can only place items into your SDBs from your pack (not from the floor). If you try to put things from the floor in, the SDB may "eat" some of your items, so best not to do that!"

BUT how many of us would think to look there before trying to unpack? This is hugely useful information (about every flavour of SDB bug). Thank you thank you thank you :)

Do you always get a message that the items couldn't be deposited?

  • I didn't know this, thanks!

  • I had this happen to me. I submitted a bug report and my items were returned to me.

These things happen in beta: it's good to know about them, and it's good too to know that mostly they are easy to recover from.

  • Aleph Zero - As far as I know, but I'm not sure how I would know if I didn't get one?

Pascale - good for you! I also submitted a bug report and then updated it each time it happened. I haven't had anything returned to me! :-(

Tibbi, I don't know. I think it has happened to me, but since I don't remember for sure, I didn't want to include that in my description.

BlackWolf - Agreed. But I really don't want to take the chance of losing everything.

  • thanks Audaria for safty announce!
I experienced the eating items- since it was my habit to sort to my floor BEFORE the SDB's came along. So naturally , I did that even after SDB's came along.
SO , yep , I learned the hard way , DO NOT sort from floor to SDB! When I asked after the problem in Live Help - I was nicely told it was a "known bug" already listed in the bugs area of the forums. (implied then , that I should have read that area prior to every time I log in , so that I wont get bit by known bugs. Note to self -* spend some of precious game time checking bug forum prior to log in * ) .So , I did not file a bug report based on what I was told. Now, I wish I had. Anywho - thanks Audaria for the note on the other bug-I didnt know that! ;)

  • it might be smart to also move things from the moving box(s) to your personal inventory on you, before trying to fill a SDB or cabinet, we have no idea if the boxes will work perfectly or not.

just the odd chance that they might not, so better to be wary before having things eaten.

  • This is good to know. I didn't find out about the "don't drag stuff from shelves to SDBs" bug until I'd opened a help case for a completely different SDB issue and was told, oh by the way, don't drag stuff from anywhere but your bags because it might disappear. Sure enough, when I checked, I'd lost a bunch of Piis. Why did I have to start with the important stuff? I did mention the loss on the help case but I think the original issue was resolved soon after and the help case closed. Ah well. Live and learn.

    Thanks for the info!

  • Audaria, I like to keep things in the same place also so my work around is to drop one item, deposit all to SDB and then drag that item back to its home slot.

  • Ah, this happens to me occasionally too!  Usually not a huge deal, unless you're dealing with something particularly valuable, but definitely something to be aware of.  Thanks for the reminder before we all start unpacking!

  • its happened, and to retrieve it, i just clicked "Deposit" and then it showed up on the screen for me to deposit. I put it in there, and withdrew it from there to get it back!

  • I also like things to stay in my bags a certain way.  I deposit all of the item I'm storing and then take out just one to replace in my bag.  I kept mixing things up by depositing all but one and have never lost an item this way.  Sorry to hear about your losses
Posted 7 months ago by xoxJulie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • This can happen when withdrawing, too, if you're only taking a portion. Has happened a few times to me.

  • I actually did a bit of testing for this, all from pack, never from the floor.
Up to 500 items go in without problems, I've never had a problem with 500 or less, and I use SDB's for everything I can cram into one (gonna need to make a ton when the game reopens...).
Over 500 may fail, and it will take everything of that item you're carrying, but only deposit most of them.
I hadn't tried clicking deposit to try to find them.  I'll have to try that next time I forget and deposit over 500 items in one go.
Posted 7 months ago by Zanthis Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That's interesting Zanthis. I can't remember for sure if it ever happened with less than 500 items.

Taco Assassin - brilliant, I'll have to try that. I asked in my original bug report if there was any way to retrieve the items and was told no, so apparently even TS doesn't know your trick!

  • Really? Thank you Myles!

(Please forgive my skepticism, but are you sure it is really fixed? I only ask because I've been told by staff before that it was fixed, only to have the same thing happen again.)
Posted 7 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • 99.999999% sure.

If it's not really fixed, I will say "I'm sorry" really hard.

  • Audaria, we found a way to reliably reproduce it which we didn't understand before (h/t- HerpDerp with the winnah), so, we think this was the magic fix. Several of us were banging away on it. :)

Also, about the dragging bug: That was when you dragged something from your pack and it included the items which were strewn about the floor. We disabled the quantity picker from including those.

  • :D Fair enough Myles! I do appreciate you letting us know, and I really appreciate you getting it fixed...er, most likely fixed...um, 99.999999% likely fixed.

  • Audaria: Maybe you could add an update to the OP quoting Myles that he's 99.999999% sure this bug is fixed. I would guess many glitchen will read the post but not follow the thread down far enough to read about the fix. Probably good to let them know up front.
