Too crowded with Glitches?

Since the game has gone live, I have found some streets to be so crowded with Glitches. Certain areas are stacked with people.
Is this going to level out in some way or will these streets always be this crowded with people?
Sometimes I like to travel to far off streets just to get away from the crowd. There are so many people in some areas, my Glitch brain cannot function correctly.

I imagine the areas around the starting streets will always be more crowded.

  • Ajaya. But I love it.

I have difficulty imagining the world expanding so quickly that streets won't crowd. This is why it surprised me that, though it seemed to me and a few other uses that the expectation was that people would trickle into the game at launch time, instead it was all over "popular" media and people just came pouring in, lol.

The only solution I can really think of right at this moment is people playing on different servers. But I hate that idea for obvious reasons.

  • Head out to some of the less populated areas, like Muufo and Aranna, or the Firebogs!  It's a lot less crowded once you leave Groddle Island :D

  • I found this problem too and it makes the game run very slow at certain times. I bought a house in Tamila and am just camping out in that area since not a lot of people seem to come out there.

  • I would love another server. A subscriber only server or something would be perfect.

My enjoyment of the game has really taken a nosedive since it got so busy. There's much less of a sense of wonder and exploration for me now that there are tons of people even on less-frequented streets. So much so that I basically stopped playing or logging in since launch.

I would find it hard to believe that the devs don't already have some idea of what they're going to do to deal with scaling though, a game like this would never work with say, 100k+ active players.

  • I'm no expert, but it would be cool if we could only interact with our friends, friends of our friends, and say, 1,000 random non friends.  The rest could be "phased out".

    Just an idea.

  • I am one of the "new" players who came in on Tuesday before the "media rush".  It didn't seem so busy then, but it sure does now!  Although my house is basically right by a starting area.  I'm sure less common areas are less busy.

Also, what about the new places that are being opened in the future?  Where/when will those be opened?

Reply to last two comments:  the beauty of this game is that EVERYONE is visible on a single server.

  • Eventually it will even out but within what time frame-who knows. Plus some streets will have projects and parties on them leading to crowding and lag. I do not like the use of multiple servers for various reasons and the "just play with you friends and a few random others" idea seems like it is basically a variation on that theme. I vote NO to doing something about crowding, YES to patience.

  • @Kirkpad, new areas come when street projects arise. Players complete the street project and the street opens up. Keep opening more streets and new areas arise!

Thanks for your replies. At times I felt like I was losing it at certain areas. Like seriously get away from that butterfly I'm milking it!!!!  :P

  • The devs said that street projects would reopen in a few weeks (once there is a critical mass of Glitchen at high enough levels to sustain them).

  • I tried to sprinkle sparkle powder on the people at gregarious grange but I got the message that there were too many people :(   a lot of them were afk.    I was able to do it in another street with fewer people but I couldn't figure out what the limit was.

  • also, the other day I gave a new person something and after a few minutes (when we were both on different streets) he sent me a message inquiring about it.  I couldn't remember so I just explained that we give people stuff.  He said I should have just "handed it to him".  I thought that was funny and explained that it didn't work that way.  After I thought about it, it seemed like it would be better if we could just hand somebody something so they could pick it up out of our hands.   The gift message might be confusing when there are so many people around.

  • There are more start streets in different areas now so that should spread them out a bit.

I have noticed that a lot of the concentration are in unique areas such as Ilmenskie where there are only very few places out of it so players stack up in those places. If they built more of those on the other end of Ur it would spread out everyone and get rid of the need for everyone to clump in the Groddle and Ilmenskie areas.

The limit for Sparkle and Sneezing powder is 7 players.

  • They have as many servers as they need to support the game. :) It's all good. They are continuing to work on the client side, but all MMOs have this problem in certain areas. As new players begin to spread out of the starting areas you'll see fewer problems.

  • This is one of the most challenging parts about launching! We are mostly working on balancing the "flows" through the world to avoid congestion (mostly: reviewing heatmaps of player density on different streets and adjusting which starting locations are being used, along with new real estate placement).

This was one of the things it really wasn't possible to "practice" during beta so there will be some rough edges over the first few weeks, but we'll figure it out. It will be nice to have some crowded locations (even deliberately crowded ones) but we agree that the bulk of the world is nicer and more pleasant to explore when it is a bit sparser.

  • What are heatmaps stoot? Having zero valuable computer knowledge, I wonder if it is possible to hide players that have gone AFK for a significant period? Some people have a tendency to fall asleep in a spot that blocks an object we are meant to interact with and I continually end up clicking on their interaction menu trying to work around them.

  • Well, I am thrilled that so many peeps are wandering in. There's a good buzz out there.  Onwards and upwards. Great job, ts!

  • @gallagirl: You can always hit [Enter] to bring up a box with all the things you can interact with (or is that what you meant and I'm not telling you anything new).

  • All the enjoyment of the game has left with the overcrowding - I hate complaining about a problem without offering a solution but I'm at a loss.  I don't mind a bunch of new people - it is great that so many are here to check it out this great game that TS has made for us - I have a feeling though that there will be less new subscriptions if the over-crowding continues.

  • jeez, guys, the game hasn't even been open a week yet. Give it time for the pentup demand to calm down and things will even out.

  • I enjoy the new people, however, I find it difficult to pick enough off the tree's to survive. The milking of butterflies almost impossible I have had to buy milk. It is hard to be generous to the new players when your barely making enough for energy and buying liquid for mood for oneself. The Orb doesn't last long when others are interrupting, then the Orb quits on me.  Oh I am surviving and doing well its just that now it feels like work and not play! LOL

  • I think you have to realize that the game is going to be uniquely crowded at this point: probably the biggest proportional influx of players it's ever likely to have, plus the smallest map. The gameplay elements will be fixed as things settle down, but of course it can be annoying that resources get depleted because there are so many people playing.

But if you're complaining because you just don't like lots of people playing at the same time as you then just remember that it's the collective effort of players that opens the game up -- so more players means more awesomeness.
