Chinese New Year

Two weeks from now will usher the Year of the Water Dragon. As such I invite my fellow Glitchen to wear a Dragon outfit around January 23.

Also, here are the normal greetings on the the Chinese New Year:
 Gong Xi Fa Cai (Mandarin)
Gong Hei Fat Choy (Cantonese)
...which both translates as "Wishing you prosperity in the coming year."

The proper way to reply is to greet them the same way, unless you're close colleagues or friends in which case you can reply with Hong Bao Na Lai.

The literal way of saying Happy New Year is Xin Nian Kuai Le, but it's not really used that much.

  • Let's have the Glitchmas envelopes back, but all in red so we can send hong bao! (With currants.)

What's a good replacement for sticky rice cake?

  • I'm in!! I have a lot of glitchmas cards left over and from the outside they look perfect but unfortunately have a bit of a glitchmas-y theme inside, but if we don't get any regular ones being stocked then I'll be handing mine out for CNY :)

  • Hmm... We have limited choices on what is the proper Glitch food for a Chinese New Year party, so I'll just have to go back to the basics; Proper Rice.

    Must start growing rice.

  • Rice cakes and long noodles are in order.

We also already have bubble tea, which is very Chinese.

  • I had THIS idea.

  • @OspreyOooh!
A group costume, I like the idea.

    @Felicia
No deserts require rice. Sad. We can always substitute Proper Rice. Plain Noodles and Fried Noodles are also good ideas as well as Bubble Tea.

Or, as the Vietnamese say: Chuc mung nam moi!

  • In Korean  새해 복 많이 받아세요 (roughly Say-Hay  bok  Man-ee  ba-da-say-yo  but dear god I hate romanization...) which basically translates to "may you receive much happiness in the new year", or for brevity just ................................Happy New Year!!!
