Method for Glitch Train Badge / Achievement

====================== Badge Info ======================
Glitch Train
Participated in a 20-player follow-me parade through 5 locations.
======================================================
If you are trying for this badge with creating a train and walking through 5 locations, you will most likely be met with frustration at all the breaks and disconnections. At the moment, the train connection is extremely sensitive and when there are more than 10 people, there's almost a guarantee it will break when the leader switches directions, moves too quickly, jumps, etc.

After some trial and error, with repeated failures starting in Ajaya Bliss and going through the treacherous Ilmenski Deeps, we discovered that jumping around ledges and climbing ladders will simply not keep the train intact. Designating Deffy as the leader, the train moved to a relatively more flat area in Ix. Despite the lack of jumps, the train still disconnected whenever we moved even halfway across a street or down a hill. The dawning conclusion was that the game simply cannot handle 15+ trains moving simultaneously. So how will the badge be possible?

The breakthrough solution came with the idea of not moving yet still going to new locations. The only way to keep a giant train intact was to have everyone stay still, preferably zero movement. With an abundance of patience Glitches, the group experimented with staying at the street sign in Guillermo Gamera Way and going back and forth between Ruta Asuncion and Baby Steppes. To the excitement of all, the train stayed alive during the location switching. This was repeated multiple times and the train was intact after each attempt.

At first we thought just alternating between two locations 5 times would count, but unfortunately it was not so. Five different locations had to be cycled somehow without moving the train. With the incredible success in what originally felt like a lost cause, the solution to overcome the frustrating breakage materialized in the location of Groddle Forest Junction. There sits a sign post that connects to four other streets. Simply gather all the train members near the sign and create the chain. Then the leader alternates between all five locations, and everyone will get the badge.

Note: This is just one particular strategy, however going about this with normal walking and following will 99.99% not succeed. It seems the current programming just cannot handle multiple linking and movement, even extremely slowly, with so many people at the same time.

  • Tamila is also another place which has 5 streets meeting, if anyone wanted somewhere a bit quieter to organise.

  • Good luck finding a group. There was one earlier than had a successful attempt: http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/9360/

    There will definitely be more groups in the future; many people probably still need the badge.

  • I think the zero movement and teleporting would also work

  • Oh good point, haven't thought about teleporting! That could actually be easier.

  • Teleporting will take longer with cooldowns. However there are a few badges that require you to teleport groups of 5+ and 11+ a number of times (I think 23 for 11 or more and 41 for 5 or more) so you could work on those as well I guess. I think those badges will be troublesome as well.

  • Awesome new update should help with this:

    "A new buff 'On the Glitch Train' has been added to let you know when you're a lucky member of a 20 person conga."

  • This method worked for Stormy Weather's glitch train today - at least, for almost all of us! A few people didn't get it first time around, but did on the second. On the third lap of the sign, we dropped half the train... still seems a bit buggy.
