Community Event:War On Spice Trees!

I decided to start a community event that i like to call...war on spice trees!
You know IX is a good place to get spice....but what if all the spice trees were to die? then spice would be more valuable and people could make money off of it!
However, it would also mean spice is harder to come by.

So i would like everyone to pick a side and support it! Those who want spice to be more valuable should work together to kill the trees with poison. Those who want things to stay the same should get antidotes and be ready to save the trees!

What side will you support?

This event starts...NOW!

This should be a fun event to spice things up! *goes off to prepare to poison trees*

UPDATE: I suppose an edit is in order to make it clear my current stance on this...as stated in my latest post in this topic, i have given up on poisoning spice trees..for now at least.  It's a wasted effort,at least attempting this solo. Plus i dont like people being mad at me. Im not a troll, i only had fun in mind when suggesting this.  In fact, i have even tried planting a new grove of spice trees in jethimadh...but when i checked next day, most had been replaced by spice trees.

  • Is this a troll?
Posted 15 months ago by koolaroo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Why would this be a troll? It's a valid proposition for the game. Could be fun.
Posted 15 months ago by Ximenez Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well, thish ish ridiculoush.
Posted 15 months ago by Frederik Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well it's just plain nuts we hardly have any spice trees as it is. Even is ix there is 30 or less.
Posted 15 months ago by koolaroo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't think it is a troll. It is a player trying to run a community event which is sort of the point of this game.
Posted 15 months ago by Majerk Subscriber! | Permalink
  • BAD Idea for a community event, we do not need any one tree wiped out. The situation with the wood trees is already bad and worse....
Posted 15 months ago by Demetra Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah I like sommunity events just not one that wipes out a already rare tree.
Posted 15 months ago by koolaroo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Maybe if you want to have tree war on a type of tree that isn't so rare (and in such high demand for street projects right now). Maybe make the war on bean trees, and try to replace them with gas!
Posted 15 months ago by La_La Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Im not a troll im just seriously trying to make the game fun and exciting!   This could be a fun WAR event!     Its up to the community decide whether the trees stay or go...

I can picture it now...people running around using antidotes and tree poison!

BTW im not proposing any set times for this because if people knew when the attacks were coming it wouldnt be much fun...its up to you guys decide whether or not to group together to protect or destroy the trees!...of you guys can simply ignore this thread nobody is forcing you guys to participate!

  • Gas doesn't work where a lot of beans are XP
Posted 15 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes! Wage war on bean trees! Not worth harvesting beans when they fetch so little money. Get rid of some of them :D
Spice and gas are good how they are :)

  • I like it.

It's boring, if this game has to be all about tree petting, dancing crabs and bestowing each other with rainbows. We need eeeevil.

  • moronic troll. Go play Farmville.
Posted 15 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • lol There's plenty of evil stuff to do, but evil's more fun when it's not organised. Organised evil is ...meh. Surprise evil is where it's at :D
Posted 15 months ago by Ebil Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hey, Tibbi. That kind of rudeness won't make you a lot of friends. The event he described is perfectly legitimate, though I personally would be fighting for the side of spice. :)
Posted 15 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Right now,im supporting the tree poisoners! ...but who says i wont switch sides later on? *grins evilly*
Posted 15 months ago by Riddleguy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Taking into account the time & energy it takes to regrow ANY tree, I fail to see where this will ultimately be of any value.
Posted 15 months ago by YoYo Mama Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Tangent:
Does anyone know exactly what the parameters for tree compatibility are?
Posted 15 months ago by La_La Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Check the wiki. They have a map that shows all the tree compatibility. When in doubt, test, though :) Buy one of each and try to plant a bean in each area :P
Posted 15 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Starters:  I am fervently against this plan.  Spice will never make anyone money, it's like bubbles or fruit: commodities.  However, not going to participate on either side.  Not interested in this type of community behavior.

I hope that this serves as a wake-up call to all the people who hope to play in a nice, friendly environment.  You are being out-maneuvered by a better organized and, frankly, more charismatic group of griefers. Go organize yourselves and make the community you want.  Preferably, before your antagonists do.

  • Organized evil is how you make large profit! (Just make sure you donate some of the profits of your evil, so you don't have to smash so many grapes)
Posted 15 months ago by Majerk Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Someone will plant a new tree soon or use antidote, and everybody can have whatever tree they want in their house, so it doesn't make sense as a strategy to increase price.

The stuff needed for projects will always have high demand and people willing to pay the price.

  • Like how this game reflects real life. With bastards and all. Decadence over 9000 =P
Posted 15 months ago by Draugr Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I can't support this any more than I can support making one continent completely planted in spice.  Jeez.
Posted 15 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You will have Ix back to yourselves! He who controls the Spice(trees) controls the....URNIVERSE!
Posted 15 months ago by Blanky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm not killing bean trees. I'm a member of the Bean Gesserit.
Posted 15 months ago by Djabriil Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Whatever that means!  Geez Blanky, I thought you'd retain your sanity a bit longer than this.  You make the bubble trees sound reasonable.
Posted 15 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm sorry, I was briefly taken over by my nerdself. Wont happen again. (And Djabriil, that was gold.)
Posted 15 months ago by Blanky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I figured your body had been occupied by a Giant on no-no
Posted 15 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The spice must flow.
Posted 15 months ago by justpeace Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Stupid idea. Destructive and negative towards the entire community. Can you find another game where you can play 'war' this is not that type of game. Really what is your point and what do you hope to accomplish by declaring war on spice trees. I just don't get this type of
    thought process.

  • No-no is the mindkiller.
Posted 15 months ago by Djabriil Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm all in favor of community events, but, in my not-so-humble opinion, this one is annoying and stupid.  Griefing will happen often enough without planning or encouraging it.
Posted 15 months ago by KhaKhonsu Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Fortunately, in order to have a "community event", you have to have the support of a community.

So far, the community responses in this thread have been either priceless or negative.  Two people following each other around killing each other's trees is not a "community event".

  • Pssst... Did ya kbnow that Spice is plentiful in the Firebog area? If he wipes the spice trees in Ix out, it could mean an influx of players into the Bogs.
*sniff* I live there, but it's so quiet...... So many Glitchren would rather go and live in the sunnier areas....
ETA: Don't wipe them ALL out. Leave those in the Spice streets. And make sure to replant with Gas. For some reason, people are vehemently opposed to a balanced Ix and always kill the Gas.
Posted 15 months ago by KitkatCat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • On the other hand, if the spice trees in Ix get wiped out and replaced with gas, those gas trees are pretty likely to get poisoned and replaced themselves.
Posted 15 months ago by Djabriil Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm all for things like this. The tools were put in the game for a reason, and it'd make for some nice diversions.
Posted 15 months ago by Draron Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I understand what you're getting at here but I think it's pretty lame. You seriously need to go find some keys to unlock some doors or something. Get a Glitch life.
Posted 15 months ago by Eye Wonder Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I am pretty new to this game, and frankly this idea is stupid and antisocial. I've been enjoying myself so far, but if people are going to try to wipe out the most interesting and rare tree that I use, the game is pointless to me and I'll be gone. I already have to spend hours every night running all over to find the stuff I need to cook.

If you want to fight, go play one of the hundreds of MMORPGs on the Net. I came here because I DON'T want to do that, and it's hard to find a game that isn't focused on fighting.
Posted 15 months ago by Avizend Subscriber! | Permalink
  • is there a fail button for this idea? seriously dude?  this isnt a fighting game - it's about working together for the good of all - not destroying.
Posted 15 months ago by cyre Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Briar did it so much better.
Posted 15 months ago by Holgate Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Wow, I wouldn't have thought of that! I hope you are just joking. Take care.
Posted 15 months ago by Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • noooooo somebody's already poisoning the spice and replanting them with gas.  i wan spice!!!!!
Posted 15 months ago by lengzzz Subscriber! | Permalink
  • At this moment in time this game is not interesting with the systems it has in place.
What makes it fun and a trending game is that to really enjoy it you need to be social. I see Glitch as a social sandbox which can be quite realistic when you get rid of the idiots who act like so just because they know it's a game.

Anyhow, this idea is absolutely terrible. It would be like saying in real life that they're going to wipe out all of the banana trees for absolutely no reason.
Posted 15 months ago by Kamwah Subscriber! | Permalink
  • ;( if this happened, my interest in Glitch would almost disappear. I like cooking, so I need spice. But I don't like ripping off other players so any of my money making is slow and just what I need for my particular goal at the time. shit-stirrers; maybe this just isn't your type of game. I get your point but spice is tediously hard to get anyway. If it gets any harder, I won't bother anymore. Oh, maybe that is your point? I don't like people who like f-cking about with other's for their own enjoyment. I would fight on the pro-spice side if I HAD to, but I don't get enough Glitch time so I would have little impact. Can you go find some fly's to pull the wings off instead?

  • "at this moment in time this game is not interesting with the systems it has in place."
what..... "What makes it fun and a trending game is that to really enjoy it you need to be social" wha.... @kamwah this comment makes no sense...
This game has been interesting and fun for alot of people. And has had a strong sense of community.

  • *Puts on best Dune voice*

We of the Bene Gesserit are in support of the planting of spice trees in all sustainable areas of Ur! The spice MUST flow. Also, we'd like to see less bean trees. Damn well HATE those bean trees. Beans must NOT flow.

  • The whole reason I've never got into any other games is because of all the 'evil' stuff in them. I hate that stuff. I'm very much a "why can't everyone be nice to each other?" sort of person and that's why I love this game so much.

Is it too much to ask to be able to harvest stuff and make food relatively easily so we can all go off and explore and do street projects and fun stuff rather than having to waste precious game time just making sure people don't kill off the resources we need? Perhaps the people that want to do this have more time on their hands than I do?

There are stacks of games out there for people who want to do 'evil' stuff. Can't we have just one that really *is* about being nice to each other?
Posted 15 months ago by geekybird Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Saba Moon - What I meant  was the game itself is not interesting or fun, this wouldn't last as a singleplayer game ever because it really doesn't have that much content but it's great as a MMO because the content really works with the social/community aspect of it all.
