Hello World!

Hey everyone! I'm very new here. (So new in fact that I've missed all of the tests). I was hoping to start playing today but that doesn't look like a possibility. Could someone point me in the direction of a more comprehensive look at what this game is? I'm super curious. Thanks!

  • Welcome!  I recommend reading the Forums and joining some Groups.  Here are links to two sites that will be helpful.  My best guess is that the game will open on Friday but hopefully before then.

  • Welcome welcome welcome!

I am of the camp that Glitch is best experienced by just experienced it. I wouldn't even know where to start. Have you watched this? Trailer.

The game (and we can... and do... debate on whether to call it a game or an experience or something else altogether) is simple to learn. It takes you through the steps. But here are somethings you might want to remember:

    1) There is no violence. Well, maybe. Certainly not against other players. One could debate if petting a piggie to get meat is violence. Some say poisoning a tree is violent. But you won't be hitting other players. (Well, you can. It's called "splanking" and is done with a plank of wood. But it really hurts you more than them.)

    2) There is no dying. Well, actually there is. But its not so bad and I fully recommend doing it at some point. Try to do it around 11pm game time.

    3) You will have energy and mood. That is like health points. Eat food increases energy. Drinking drinks increase mood (as does petting things... for a game without sex there is a WHOLE LOT of petting).

    4) When the game opens and you reach level three, you might think about announcing it on Global Chat. Include your location. Then make sure you have room in your inventory. Trust me.

    5) Save up for a bag.

    6) If you have questions when in the game, ASK! People are very friendly and helpful.

    7) There will seem like there are a hundred things to do and it is easy to get distracted. That's okay, Follow your own muse. There is no "wrong" way to play.

  • I think we're expecting an end-of-the-week test, maybe Friday and lasting all weekend?  Rumors fly.  (Tests happen whenever the developers are ready for them.)  Personally, I'd just wait until then, so you won't know what's coming.  These forums are chock full of spoilers.  While you're playing, if you really need help, please do join the Live Help channel and ask questions.

  • The best way to know when a test is happening if you don't want to constantly refresh the site is to have a twitter account and a mobile device set up to receive texts when @isglitchopen posts a tweet. Welcome in and have a great time in Glitch! :D

  • Wow. You guys really are friendly ^^. I didn't expect to get any love : P  Thanks for being responsive and supportive. It's not very often where you find a community who is so welcoming on the intertubes. I'm really excited to get started and meet more of you wonderful glitchers!!

When I first stumbled (literally) on the glitch site a few months ago (when all they had was a video clip and a link to send them your email) I was very interested in the concept.  (I even pinned it to my web browser for a while ^^). I forgot about the game for a while until I checked my school email account a few days ago. And even though I haven't been able to actually play yet, I'm still very intrigued. So much that I've been trying to "play" by learning about it.

So far, I want to say that Glitch is like Gaia with a different..err.... what's the word.... culture? What I mean to say is that, like Gaia, the community seems very forum based but has a much more MMOG feeling (which I'm hoping to feel in the next few days) with a lot less anime and trolling. Is that accurate?

Anyways, I'm stoked. I've been looking for a more social MMO for a long time. I think I may have found it (and these conclusions are drawn from 0 gameplay experience ^^)

  • @Nayme. Pretty much nail on the head. Except I think the only reason we're mostly forum-based (at the moment) is because we're confined inside a little box labed "Forums" when the red sign is on the door. :D

But definitely a more amicable, social, and...well, family-like user base than any of the other MMOs out there right now. And you're going to absolutely fall in love with it when the next test opens up! I would suggest following @isglitchopen on twitter so you don't miss out.

    And of course, welcome!

  • *randomly drops by to hug the newbie*

Bacon is dead right about everything in his post.
Especially the part about telling us when you hit Level Three and having a nearly empty inventory right then.

I've added you to my friend's list, btw, so if you want, you can feel free to IM me directly in the game to ask for help if you need any while I'm online. And if you'll take the time to say hi, I'll come give you a bag to start you off right. (and probably a bunch of food and stuff.)

  • Welcome Nayme!  I've only been in for a couple of tests so far, but I have to say that in my experience, the community is absolutely as friendly and wonderful as it looks.  Here's to hoping the next test is soon so you can play!
