This reminds me of a story my grandfather loved to tell .... "Did I do wrong?"

There was a dead cherry tree. Somebody (person 1) not me chopped it down. Somebody else not me (person 2) by mistake dug up the patch before person 1 could plant. I waited by the dug up hole to get a patch. When the patch got there I planted a wood bean and waited. I waited because when a wood tree sprouts (unlike a little tree of other kinds) it will get killed by a single harvest. Anybody might kill it by mistake. But I have some Fertilidust Lite so I can make it big enough to survive one harvest. Along came person 3, and stood by the patch with me. But as soon as the wood tree came up she quickly killed it. I wasn't sure if it was on purpose or by mistake. I tried to tend the plot to replace it, but she was tending it. So I clicked the patch again and planted a wood bean. Then person 3 was irate that I "jumped in front" of her to plant a wood bean because she was going to plant a fruit bean. I said, but you killed the wood tree I just planted. You jumped in front of me before I could fertilidust. She said, but you killed the cherry tree I planted. I said, I don't even have poison skills. So she said she would be waiting there waiting to kill my second wood tree. I left, I have better things to do with my game time. Anyway, if you read this far, here is Grandpa's joke, from a long-ago time.

"Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, Last night a gentleman invited me to dinner, and while with him I drank three glasses of wine. Did I do wrong? Signed, A Lady in Doubt

"Dear A Lady in Doubt, You probably did."

  • people will often jump to harvest any dead tree, because it goes toward a whack job badge. similarly, patches are at a premium because there's a tending badge and a planting badge.

if you see a plot and someone hanging about waiting for anything, you may be jumping someone or there may be a jump in the works. if you are toasty with that, keep your hand in there. if not, move on. you can always poison another tree.

it's furniture moving. if someone moves the sofa, move it back. if they keep moving your sofa, wait until they go on vacation, line their livingroom floor with plastic, dump in a truckload of dirt, plant grass and install grow lights. be sure to put their sofa where they left it before you remove your equipment.

  • hi flask, I remember you.

OK, since I was there waiting for a seedling to appear, I accept your thought is that somebody else showing up and waiting to kill it on purpose to replace it with a (yet another) fruit tree was an OK way for that person to glitch ...

But your suggestion of mega-revenge if someone annoys you? This reminds me of the old saying that any eye for an eye leaves everybody blind. And escalating to get more revenge than the offense is like pulling out nuclear options for .. pixel trees?

  • I think the idea of "my tree" is leading people, like the girl you mentioned, astray.  When a person plants a tree in a street they have no ownership over it, and nor do they have a right to say more than any other person what tree should be planted where.  Again no one has ownership of tree patches.

For her to come up and continually poison the tree you wanted to plant was stupidly antagonistic in my opinion, and so are the stand offs that are seen at times in Ix regarding gas and spice trees. If someone wants to plant gas in Ix, let them, and if you would prefer spice then come back later and put spice in. No big deal.

  • People dont always dig the patch 'by mistake.'  You often get loam when digging a tree patch.  Some might even prefer the patches be there to dig than for a tree to be in the way.

  • @Razzale -- Interesting! I did not know that! But when person 2 dug it up, she said it was by mistake.

  • Just a joke about seeking revenge for minor displeasure... glad to hear that. So, this note and similar others were also just a joke?

  • You did no wrong. There are stress points in the game and that happens to be one.

  • *backs away slowly* uh-huh...

'scuse me while i go wipe off my computer screen.

you're carrying your sorry whinyness into ANOTHER thread? the funny thing is you keep thinking any of this has anything to do with you, but you are so far beneath notice as not to be worth any action at all.

flask is pickin' on me! flask is makin' fun o' me! flask stopped talking about you long ago and yet you keep thinking there's something going on simply because you happened to have gotten underfoot.

now take your whinypants one-way feud somewhere else, like maybe where somebody cares. do not make me get out my trombone.

  • People who obsessively play games like Glitch often end up in spirals of seeking power-or-revenge, with a negative impact on (much larger numbers of) people who play games like Glitch for recreation. It is not in the interest of companies like Tiny Speck to favor the omnipotence-or-revenge fantasies of those obsessed with their game world over normal desires of most normal avatars to find the resources they're normally seeking.

  • I don't see how what you did could be considered remotely bad. If anything the person throwing the fit over something so trivial was in the wrong.

They are even in the wrong by their own flawed logic of "whoever was their first has dibs." As you were the one who was there tending the patch first before this other person was even present. All you were doing was being a good glitch trying to repair a crater. I am sorry someone came up and antagonized you over it.

Try not to let this sort of nasty obsessive behavior bother you and I implore you to report individuals like this if they cross the line from being rude and antagonistic to full blown abusive which in this case it sounds like they did not. I know it seems petty to rat on people, but the thing is you are doing the entire game community a favor since it will save the next 20 or 30 people down the line from being mistreated in the same way.

Sometimes you just catch a normal, good natured Glitch on a bad day, but usually this sort of behavior is not an isolated incident. From what I can tell, nobody gets banned for a single report so even if you are reporting someone who is just having a bad day, it won't really do them any harm. If on the other hand you are reporting somebody that has been reported for this same sort of abusive behavior dozens of times, eventually they will get removed from the community.

  • I know of no solution for tree and garden wars. The best thing to do is move on.

What makes these issues so upsetting is that these plants do no grow quickly. I had the problem with The Last Egg. More than once my egg was taken by someone just as it became ready. Technically it was not "my" egg. Yes, I tended, planted, petted, watered, fertlized and waited only to lose my egg after an hour of work and waiting, it was "not" my egg. I went through the same thing with herbs.

There is nothing to report here. the action of "stealing", however upsetting, does not exist. What does exist is bad behavior, poor gamesmanship. You can't change how others play. Move on. Frustration is high, bad manners exist, move on. Some people are going for Badges. You cannot sway them from it, it is part of the Game. Move on. Ask a friend to let you borrow a patch. Keep trying to use community patches. Move on. Eventually you will be able to plant yout tree.

As for poor behavior and bad attitudes, sadly they exist. There is no excuse for it. Move on.

  • Ah [name removed before Blanky bothers], I checked out your blog.  Despite your behavior and your petty desire for revenge, I'm really not shocked that you seem to spend a lot of time in church.

Also, pretty much every time you write I hear Eric Cartman on Springer: "You doan know me.  You cain't tell me wha to do!"

  • Hi! This reminds me of a joke, too! Here's the joke it may or may not remind me of:

Once upon a time, there was a policeman that saw a man sitting in a car with a tiger sitting next to him. The police officer said, "It's against the law to have a tiger in your car. Take him to the zoo."

The next day the police officer saw the same man in the same car with the same tiger. The police officer said, "I thought I told you to take that tiger to the zoo."

The man replied, "I did. He liked it. Now we're going to the beach."
