Spoiler - Item description change

The description for Fiber has changed. It now says:

A single sturdy hair brushed from the tail of a fox, ready for spinning into thread or stuffing into furniture for padding. Or just staring at in amazement and using as a unit of measurement for something really, really thin.

Value and capacity stay the same.

  • Omg foxfluff will be real! Well, virtually real. And as a rl-spinner, I'm feeling all *squee*. I actually have rl butterflies of excitement to go along with it. Assuming we will be able to spin (big assumption on my part), now I can spend even more time ignoring my rl-hobbies for the in-game version. Yay? :D

  • Lily, I could see that.  Honey is slow, like sloths, and would explain why sloths always have this goofy look on their faces (because a spoon full of honey does that).  Also, the honey would be used in glue, right?  Or maybe all sorts of building substances including dye and paint (which would be colored with herbs and fruits).

Honey, milk and flour for wallpaper glue.

  • Wait. What was fiber before the description change? Was it even a thing?
Posted 9 months ago by dm Subscriber! | Permalink
  • dm, it used to say:

"Good for something, eventually. I'd hold onto it if I were you."

It has been a thing since March 9th.
Posted 9 months ago by MaryLiLamb Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I can't find it anywhere in the encyclopedia. Is it a secret item? A subsciber-only item? Rare? How does one obtain fiber?
Posted 9 months ago by dm Subscriber! | Permalink
  • dm, you can currently only get it if you own a dusty stick - an item gifted to players who experienced a certain housing bug.
Posted 9 months ago by Csophae Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Right now Fiber comes from using Dusty Sticks, which release a "Bundle of Joy". When the Bundle of Joy disappears, it leaves behind Fiber. But in an upcoming release, you can obtain Fiber by using a Fox Brush on a wild Fox.

You can pick up Fiber from the ground if you see one, and you can get it from all the regular interactions (giving, auctions, trading, etc).
Posted 9 months ago by TomC Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Huh? Some players were rewarded with rare items because their games failed? But if everything ran smoothly, then tough luck? That seems illogical. I want a bug now.
Posted 9 months ago by dm Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think we should get a new costume "jacket", a fox curled around our shoulders, with the tail wagging back and forth.

Or a fox curled on top of our head hat.

Fox is alive, and linked to our emotes. Fox snarls with we hit "1"

  • Good catch!
Posted 9 months ago by Codex Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ugh, dm, what seems illogical would be the reverse of your position.  Giving out a rare item to people who had no issues while telling those who temporarily lost everything in their cabinets, some things irreplaceable, tough luck?  How would that make sense?

It's a meaningless toy item, and I have a feeling getting fiber from fox will generally be easier.
Posted 9 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I bet the fox will look like a sweet fire fox :)
Posted 9 months ago by Codex Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree, the reverse situation is also illogical. I just think that special item rewards maybe shouldn't be tied to game bugs at all, or at least handled differently. I can see that it was kind of an "apology" by TS, but they should have at least made the dusty stick available to purchase from a toy vendor, so the unaffected could also enjoy it without paying @&$#%€ absurd prices for it at auction. As it stands now, I just read that the value of a dusty stick is now over a million currants. THAT'S completely ridiculous.
Posted 9 months ago by dm Subscriber! | Permalink
  • dm, the value of a dusty stick is going to drop dramatically once the thing that it produces becomes as common as butterfly milk.

It may be unique and special still, in the way that Senior Fun Pickle is, but there will be no advantage to game play after the initial pay-off.

Why not simply enjoy seeing the effects of the Dusty Stick when someone uses it near you, and have a good laugh?
Posted 9 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You're probably right, the value will likely decrease, but it'll still be a rare item. And no, I've never seen the effects of one. Maybe someone can find me in game and show me their dusty stick sometime. (Wait, that sounded bad.)

Edit: I actually differentiate the dusty stick from the funpickle in terms of rewards. If I'm not mistaken, the funpickle was given to all beta players at a specific point in time, as a thank-you for beta testing. Today, those players still amount to only a percentage of total glitchen, but that's only because the rest of us signed up after first beta was closed, so of course the newer players wouldn't be entitled to a funpickle. (I do hope that us neo-betas eventually get a similar thank-you item when Glitch goes live again.)
Posted 9 months ago by dm Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, I get the distinction.  There is a small similarity, however, in that I am, myself, more jealous of the fun pickle than the dusty stick, and I've seen both effects.  The similarity being that they both produce jealousy, so there is at least an emotional comparison to be made there.  The Fun Pickle also, occasionally produces something, in the form of beans made from sneezes.  So, you can compare the two in terms of rarity and practicality and therefor their equivalent value on the market and utility in game play.

The jealousy that the Fun Pickle creates is better mitigated by the fairness of its original distribution, but even more so by the fact that it's utility (even being a pretty wacky device) wears out quickly over time.

Incidentally, someone I know found a Fun Pickle just lying on the street, with no note.  I suspect that some day, the same will happen with the dusty stick.
Posted 9 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'd be willing to pay the big currants for a funpickle, but not for a dusty stick. Or, if some brave soul would be willing to lend me a funpickle, so I could get a GNG and the new-item XP, that'd be cool, too.

  • Please note that the description of Fiber has changed again.  It now says:

A single sturdy hair brushed from the tail of a fox, ready for spinning into thread or stuffing into furniture for padding. Also might be perfect for gluing to your face as a moustache, but due to its origin (the underside of a fox tail), no one does.
Posted 9 months ago by Eleanor Rigby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • lol, great--even funnier than the first one!

Posted 9 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But....wouldn't that declaw them like a cat?
Posted 9 months ago by MaryLiLamb Subscriber! | Permalink
  • satarell, that is an excellent guess actually, you are either missing just one letter, or an anagram of the plural form you said is the singular form. The name may be a bit misleading at first glance because it sounds like an animal, but it is actually quite ingenious, like sporks.

  • Oy. Now it says:
A patch of downy hair brushed from the tail of a fox, ready for spinning into thread or stuffing into furniture for padding. Also might be perfect for gluing to your face as a moustache, but due to its origin (the underside of a fox tail), no one does.
Posted 9 months ago by MaryLiLamb Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'd rather spin a downy patch than a single sturdy hair, all things considered.
Posted 9 months ago by Jewel Stoned Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The devs are going to block all of us spinners for correcting their descriptions of fox fur spinning. Little do they know what kind of pandora's box they opened.  :)

  • So much for the Dusty Sticks not giving people an in-game advantage!!!
Posted 9 months ago by Shallawalla Subscriber! | Permalink
  • They won't xP We'll be using a fox brush to gather fibers from a fox's tail. I assume it will be much more efficient to do it that way than with a dusty stick :)
Posted 9 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And what about the "piles" people already have saved up?
Posted 8 months ago by Shallawalla Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm guessing the amount of fiber I have "piled up" since receiving my dusty stick is approximately what 5 brushes of a fox tail will provide. The dust bunny unleashed by the stick is probably more fun than the fox will be, though, unless the fox wriggles in a pleased way when its tail is brushed.
Posted 8 months ago by Eleanor Rigby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Shallawalla, the amount of Fiber from using a Fox Brush will make any Fiber from Dusty Sticks negligible. It's only 1 Fiber every 4 hours at most with the stick, while in the same 4 hours you can probably obtain 1000x as much Fiber from foxes.
Posted 8 months ago by TomC Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Especially once you consider that the stack size is 999 :) One can only guess that we'll be dealing in very large amounts where fiber is concerned.
