Multiple Characters

It would be nice to create multiple characters on a single account. There's enough variety in this game (and potential variety) that it would be nice to have 2 characters to play completely differently.

  • I played two characters last test. It made higher-level quests (20+) more fun. When my higher character needed to just wait out learning, I could work on my Porter.

Compared to my original character, my new one has a ton of skills completed but few quests. What was particularly amusing was leaving my Porter at my main character's house to mind my trees and pigs (I was on the somewhat-broken Seed-to-Scythe quest) but traveling with my much-richer character to buy my Porter stuff it needed like a spice rack and bags. (And I could give it the bags I upgraded, rather than just dropping them for passersby.)

Lastly, I tried having my Porter follow my main character over to Ix, to mine a bunch of rocks. That worked fine but it sure punished my Macbook Pro (one account in Chrome, another in Firefox—boy was there a difference in machine usage between those two).

    which worked better?

  • firefox works MUCH better that chrome. at least on the mac.

this is because chrome has its own version of flash that it updates internally, and isn't caught up with the latest version yet.

firefox also works slightly better than safari for some reason i can't figure out.

  • A dev told me why, but it was over my head.

  • I use a Mac too. I prefer FF over Safari. I've used Chrome a couple times but it's never convinced me to make the switch so i was curious. Good to know. Thanks :)

  • I'm getting a new Mac, so this is good info. Thanks.

And I'm fine with just using different email addresses for different accounts. I just don't think it should be that easy to have two Glitches mining simultaneously with one Glitch giving all its gems to the other. Or meat farming. Or whatever.

  • Firefox—even with Firebug—worked just fine.

Regarding Chrome, Glitch worked great up until this last test. I know the short test before was after some performance upgrades. That's the point where the experience diverged between the two. Far more invalid tokens, server disconnects with a God apology and lag. So much so that following the chat in various groups and Help was nearly pointless.

I have the debug version, so I can watch the task-manager-like report as I play. FF was about 2/3rds the memory usage as Chrome, it seemed.

I'll jump my Chrome flash version before the next test and see if that helps.

  • People will abuse the system with multiple accounts on multiple addresses. I would like to see multiple characters on one account. That would mean that you could only be logged in with the one account in one instance at a time therefore only one character at a time. You could send goods from one char to another but not have one mining while the other is farming.

  • Chrome's still in pain with this test. Firefox (+Firebug) is working like a champ.

I don't get to say that too often, so it's amusing.

Both are lastest versions with latest debug flash.

  • Woah, I have only ever played Glitch on Chrome. Never tried FF or Safari. Does it really make that much of a difference? Gameplay wise, such as lag when clicking on items then waiting for the menu load?

  • yes. it makes a big difference.
