I look forward to doing everything again slightly differently, and caring a little more as to which things I learn... For example, is it really a good idea to do all the BLs first? Dunno, but I was up to 4 very quickly.
I'm still wondering about the BL...
Skill learning strategy bugs me. Want to figure something out of it. Something well organised.
Reset is good occasion to test another strategy. So I'm quite glad about it, even if I would have been happy to end the skill tree this time.
In the Glitch Strategy Group, it was suggestion that Mining and Meditation were the way to go at start up. It's an old discussion, so not sure if the old timers would still agree.
Well the math on the Better Learning has changed... and will continue to as more skills are added.
It takes 2.6 days to learn Better Learning V, which yields a 20% reduction in learning times versus the 12% reduction provided by Better Learning IV. The math on that 8% variance works out to about 35 days of learning before Better Learning V has 'paid for itself'.
If the world were live 24/7, theoretically it would take a month of solid learning to complete the current skill tree. For Go-live... Better Learning V would be one of the last skills I learned, or it would be learned in my 'sleeping hours'. You may not realize it, but you can pause learning one thing, switch to another, then come back to the first.
However... the world is not alive 24/7. I fully intend to crank through the Teleportation requirements quickly, then the BL items. BL 1-4 *can* be learned in a single test, with 5 learning across the first shut down. Done this way, BL5 pays for itself right away - since around 1 day of 'live' time was spent on getting to it.
Honestly, I entered the world on a mission to see every single street and touch everything I could. I was Level 5 before I realized it... and that was one of the shorter tests. I realize I don't play like most people, but the best way to fast cash is exploring and messing with the world. The biggest rewards (cash, xp, and stuff to be sold for cash) are actually in the Achievements and the world itself.
Yep, very interesting!! Thanks for sharing this Travinara! ^^
I agree that exploring the world is a great way to gain rewards, but the skills you chose to learn first can make a big difference in that.
For example, I'd be tempted to begin with all Mining / Refining / Alchemy skills, because they're a good way to have cash.
But without Animal Kinship, getting food to keep energy up can become an issue quite quickly, particularly on low levels, when your total amount of energy isn't very high.
So... I'm not sure yet about the strategy I'll choose to priorize my skill learning after the reset.
As the game is closed, we cannot enter the world, but you won't need another invite to play at the next test (even if it's the reset one). Once you're in, you're in. :)
The tests are not always announced by e-mail. The best way to know if the game is opened or not is to follow this twitter page: twitter.com/isglitchopen or to spend a lot of time on the forum. ;)
Roxon, while the game is still Alpha the devs have given us all a free subscription. The devs have said Beta is months away... so kick back, relax, and join the Glitch-y goodness when the world opens again. Sounds like you'll be gainfully employed before we're paying for subscriptions.
So, if we're reset next week, is that a total reset? Do I need to go pick out a new wardrobe and hairdo again? If so, I'm not going to bother with it now. I'm lazy that way ;) Really looking forward to the next trial. For those who came before us, y'all have done a great job with this world, and I really look forward to exploring it. It's not "Home" (FSers will agree), but it's friendly and inviting, and will offer up new challenges to us. Hope us Refugees don't skew the game too badly, because I feel - and I'm sure others of us do as well - that you've given us a warm welcome. Especially Travinara, to whom I apologize in advance for if I accidentally call you Amelia...
I am really glad we are getting reset. I was stuck in Doon Way for most of the time. I refreshed, believe it or not....over 28 times..lol. I don't mind reset at all. :)
Only passing on a torch of how I was welcomed into the world :D It's contagious like that.
I think the reset will effect your cash, the homes, and items, skills, achievements, trophies, and exp... but this is my first reset. GOD told us to have our Glitchmas Yetis (a collectors piece from a few months ago) in our inventory rather than our homes... so it's anyone guess how involved the re-set will be... but the dev's have left enough info for me to feel comfortable saying, it'll be everything but the glitch appearances themselves.
Last time, we all got zero'd out--skills, levels, badges, currants, stuff in our bags, etc. We entered the world anew. I think our avatars weren't affected, since you can make yourself yourself before entering the game.
My guess is that anything that involves actual gameplay to get will be removed. So friends list, groups, and avatar will be unchanged since players can just change them back without much fuss.
My recommendation for skills: A couple levels in everything related to plants and animals, then mining. I found meditation to be not worth it, same with better learning. Teleportation is very useful to get, especially since the devs will likely add Teleporation II soon. Cooking is fun, but not really all that worth it when there's pigs everywhere. Alchemy is not very helpful early on, but awesome to have later on.
Hmm, getting bad Joojoos on my profile page, but no one else's. Also, yay for Glitchmas Yetis, but I was hoping my SB Musicblock would survive too. :'(
The Glitchmas Yeti looks so lost in my otherwise empty bag.
(And yay! Reset! Can't wait to see the changes made to the game introduction and the way quests are lined up and.... So much to explore. Again.)
Oh yeah baby~~~! Just finished exams (annoying yet useful industry certifications) so I am so glad to see this! Now I have my usual time to enjoy this.
im glad i just got invited, i was only on level 4 when the session ended so i didn't have much and its not gonna take long to get back to that level once the new session starts
