Get rid of the talking rocks

I dont mind the other animals talking because you can get used to it,but the mining rocks are so annoying. The everytime you see your name and the rock wants to talk this is insane,I like to mine as it is peaceful and I dont like groups, partys or a lot of chat stuff,I realize everyone likes something different but this has a lot of my friends that would not normaly report this saying it drives them crazy in game as well.

  • I personally find all the talking items annoying...I know some like them but I'm starting to just tune them out...which concerns me that I'll miss more important messages at some point because I'm mentally filtering the noise...

  • I agree I don't like the animals or rocks trying to get me to talk to them. Surely there is another way to tell the story they want to tell.

  • i agree. we all asked for backstory, but i'm not sure this is the way to get it.  a couple times i hit the "talk" button instead of the "mine" button while on earthshaker buff and kicked myself because i had to go through umpteen dialogue boxes that i didn't really want to read.

maybe if there's a quest involved or achievements or something, but in the meantime, i honestly don't care :P

i do appreciate the devs fulfilling our requests to fill in the blanks, though!

  • I disagree. I like the talking.

But i'd prefer it to be a lot less frequent, like something really special, that only happens once in a long while (like once in a couple hours).

  • I don't much care for the animals and other things talking about the back story. We did ask for the story to be told so my idea would be to maybe put it on posters in the subway tunnels. I love the advertisment type signs currently on the subway. Putting the back story in the entrances would be less intrusive than the current system of the animals. The posters could be specific to area so that people would be encouraged to visit different areas to get the whole story.

  • I like the talking... but the frequency does need to be turned down. If it is based on what level you are, potentially higher level folks are getting hit with tons of "stored up" convos in a short period of time.

  • Personally, I like the back story and the talking, but I also agree that it's far too frequent.  Of course, that could have also been because we're testing things out etc., but... it definitely needs to be toned down a lot.

  • Er...I loved the talking items, loved them, loved them. But I agree about taking the frequency down a notch....

  • +1

The talking is good, but most of the time I really would like to mind my own business, so anything that calls my name and tries to tell me something I am not interested to know at the moment is a distraction. And yes, I am interested in a backstory, so there must be a better way to tell it other than meeting a talkative plant/rock/animal. If the in-game elements are to really talk, yes the frequency should be lowered, or it could be activated by a quest, or probably give the emblems the ability to make the objects talk.

  • I really do not need every rock, chicken, pig, tree & butterfly trying to start up a tutorial conversation with me.  It's kinda cute, but way tmi for me..  Holly, the Subway posters are a good idea!  You're stuck there for a little while anyway :)  And they could be clickable if you wanted to know more.  Just don't miss your stop I guess (unless your really enthralled with the back story - then you can ride it around again:DD).

  • I loooove the chats and the backstory and there's a simple solution for you grumps (just teasing, don't grump me!!) who don't like it - just ignore them and don't select the talk to option.

  • i kinda want a glitch library that you can go to and read books about the history of glitch, possibly with illustrations here and there.

    like illuminated manuscripts.

you could go to the library, get cozy and settle in and read different books recounting different eras from different perspectives.

the authors could make for cool historical npcs.

  • It seems to me that a written record of the past events wouldn't fit in with the storyline, since this world has only recently begun anew and the only ones that can write are the Glitches, who did not exist in previous incarnations of the world. Thus, the only lore that should exist are the stories passed down orally from the creatures that were reincarnated/resurrected from the previous eras. It also seems fitting that they may not remember things quite so well (leading to plenty of contradiction which turns out to be very entertaining and though provoking). I also love how the personalities of each of the creatures are being further developed and showcased by these conversations. Putting everything on a billboard or in a book would remove these intriguing effects, and make less sense story-wise.

Yes, the stories should be less frequent, but I'm sure we just had a backlog of them since they were just now introduced. Also, it should be possible for people to completely ignore them if they don't care. Each creature should maybe give the shout-out once at first, with the message disappearing within a few seconds (which I think already happens), and then maybe a reminder shout-out sent out again after a long time period (like a game day?), and stopping altogether if the player doesn't respond after a certain number of times (but still leave the "talk to" option in the menu). I don't know if there are any reminder shout-outs right now or how frequent they are, because I always drop what I am doing to click on them because of how fascinating I'm finding the whole thing.

  • I don't mind things talking when I harvest/pet/mine/water them, but I can definitely see the appeal of an option to turn off the dialogue.

I think the backstory conversations should be harder to get. Like, you need to get so-and-so achievement before that tree tells you which Giant liked lemons and which one probably doesn't take too well to presents of gas. Unless that's the way things already go... then maybe the rate of backstory a player gets is also relative to the amount of playtime?
