Gardening with guano

I've been crunching some numbers about guano. I don't have Croppery 3 but I don't think it would make much of a difference as super harvests don't happen often enough.

With Croppery I, 1 Tomato Seed (20 currant) grows to 14 tomatoes (70 currant). If you were to feed a piggy (3 tomatoes) and grow 2 guano (6 tomatoes), it would be 9 (45 currant) tomatoes lost. You would end up with 5 extra tomatoes. 5 tomatoes are left BUT you lost 9 tomatoes (45 currant) and the seed costs 20 currants. So you only gained 1 tomato (5 currants).

EDIT: Corrected some of my math again. Wow, I was totally off.

  • I feed the millions of planks I get from my wood tree to the bats for guano. 20 planks= 3 guano (I get 50-80 planks for one harvest). I never use my veggie harvests for guano, just seeds. If I didn't have planks, I'd probably use grain. I don't generally use guano at all (though I have it stockpiled) and have a huge surplus of veggies. I've got Croppery 2.

  • Plant a wood tree in your garden if you can. At the highest level possible, one harvest gives 120 planks. if you use the planks for guano only, that's 40 right there.

  • Why not use cherries or beans to obtain your guano?

  • Cherries and beans would be good as well, if you don't have access to a wood tree or don't like squeezing chickens. I'm not really sure how those three are compared to each other, since I only use planks.

  • My math was really bad when I was writing this topic so I changed the topic a bit. Now it's just an observation about using guano.

Thanks for the wood tree suggestion, I'll look into that.

  • 10 potatoes make 2 guano

  • Try using spices for guano if you gather lots of allspice. Any of the spices that use 3 allspice to make will get you 2 guano for 5 spices.

  • I save my guano for when I am herb gardening in a public place.  But three planks or five eggs will get you one guano, which seems a better deal to me than feeding them all your veg.  :)

  • @Cantarea I'm sure I've had 1 guano for 3 potatoes, which means if you do 3 x 3 potatoes you get 3 guano for 9. Not sure how the energy/xp/mood compares though...

I've also spent 3 eggs for 1 guano, as it's cheaper than 3 potatoes, but 20 planks does seem to be the 'cheapest' option and I do have a big pile of them lying around that I'm not using (was saving for a possible street project?)

Most of the time I can't be bothered with guano, as I have a 28 patch garden and struggle to keep up with it anyway. However, sometimes it's useful if I need some (slow-growing) potatoes in a hurry!

  • To get 1 guano - feed 15 grain.   To get 3 guano - feed 100 grain.

@geekybird, I wish multiplying like that would work. I don't use potatoes to feed the batterflies, but I use grain, and I know that even 95 grain will only yield 2 guano :(

  • gardening was soooooo much more fun when you could do multiple clicks at once.

  • 10 boards will give 2 guano. I use boards because I don't use them much for anything else besides a little cooking.

  • They like meat too - 5 meat = 2 guano :)

  • 3 boards give 1 guano every time.

  • I use one Hard Bubble for guano. I also suck at math, so not even going to attempt.

  • Hmm...all this talk about how many of each item it takes to yield 1 guano got me thinking.  Maybe it's all tied to currant value.

    1 guano = 20 currants
And people have said they get 1 guano for 3 eggs or 3 planks.  Well, both those items are worth 5 currants each, so 3 of them = 15 currants, or rounded up, 20 currants.  Notice a pattern here?  I'm going to try this later with 1 currant items like grains, beans, and cherries and see if I can yield 3 guano from 60x of each item...unless someone else has already tried it?

  • @Joojoo Someone mentioned above that they need to get up to 100 grains to get 3 guano.
