What To Do Without Internet, Tv, or My Car?

Any ideas? Don't say read, I've nearly read myself blind. And I've gone for a million walks. And all my friends are still out of town because classes don't start til the end of the month.

I've taken the bus to the mall, I've gone for walks/jogs everyday. I could finish unpacking but I'm so bored I'm losing my mind.

.Help.

  • Ugh...I know how that is, was like that just a few weeks ago. To the point where I've started teaching myself how to crochet. Um..maybe I'm not the best for suggestions here if I instantly turned into an old lady...What about cooking?

  • Meetup.com. A lot of Meetups are just social gatherings that don't require members to pay, too.

Also, free MMOs, lmao. Or just free games in general. Like OMGPop.com. They have all these cutesy little games that are exactly like Uno or Connect 4.

  • @rogue: I moved so I have no more pool.

@cerulean: I have no internet other then my phone, which is far from ideal and unfortunately I can't play any games really.

@napa: I go to the food bank every other thursday and sort through hot dogs and cookies, etc, but I don't have transportation there!!

  • Write! A movie, a play, a poem, a novel, a short story.

Design a board game or card game based on your favorite thing.

    Make a family tree.

Draw pictures of/for your favorites people.

Cook stuff that can be frozen.

Cook something you have never cooked before.

    Make a treasure map.

    Make up a new sport.

Design a new county. Map, flag, anthem, national flower, etc..

    Build a fort.

  • Craft!! Yarn bomb something. Do Glitch fan art. You said you already are going for walks... Take your camera and document your neighborhood (one of my favorite things to do). Garden. Make a planter box to give to friends or neighbors. Guerilla garden. Rearrange or redecorate your house. Plan a welcome back to school party or picnic.

  • +1 to Volunteer go to any charity run organisation and offer them some of your time. You won't be bored and you'll feel a lot better about yourself.

  • Ah thanks, some great ideas bacon o. I'm a terrible writer so I will skip that part, but I will certainly make a treasure map for the babies I nanny for or my younger siblings

  • Put music on the radio and choreograph an amazing dance routine! Or the craft idea. Now I'm tempted to take my knitting to the next level and figure out how to make an amigurumi of my glitch...

  • Pick up a hobby or teach yourself something... ask someone to let you borrow an instrument, take up photography, learn to juggle, instead of reading try writing (prose/poetry/diary)... do some prep work to plan documenting your school year... start watching foreign movies ;)

  • Angel I belong to a co ed fraternity that volunteers, trust me I get plenty of volunteering.

Unfortunately I can't garden or redecorate as I just moved, can't plant anything in my yard cause I'm only here for less than a year and would waste what little money I have on a garden for someone else :)

Great idea about documenting thought, thanks!

  • "I'm a terrible writer"

I am only going to argue that I believe EVERYONE has a voice and something to say. But I spend a lot of time encouraging folks to not fear writing.

    But treasure map! Yay!

  • Laurali, you're in APO too? =D

I know you said you've been for millions of walks, but I'd go to all the places I haven't been yet...see what there is to see. (Like I do in Glitch, lol) Re-orient myself to the new apartment, and find the best ways home. Poke my head in all the shops, look at architecture and gardens, learn which areas/streets I'd rather avoid. If you're near campus, go be annoying and look in all the buildings you haven't been in yet... you might find an open computer lab to check out all the stuff that people have been recommending because they've forgotten you don't have a computer ATM. ;)

I also approve of LBO's suggestion to build a fort. You have all those boxes from moving...

  • Actually, what I did when I moved into my apartment and was left without internet and tv (I still don't have a tv) was go to redbox and got a bunch of movies and watched a billion movies.

(They're usually at grocery stores so you can try my earlier suggestion of trying out new recipes while you're at it! - Only if you want to!)

  • For me, the best long-term boredom buster is to learn a new skill. I don't know what you're into, it could be cooking or some arts/crafts skill, or if you have a computer you could learn programming or graphic design or something like that. Or perhaps a new language. All you need is a trip to the library to get started.

  • Go meet the neighbors!  I'm shamless and just start talking to everyone when I move to a new place.  Knock on doors, introduce yourself as new, see if they want to talk.  Some people will even want to go get a tea or lunch.

  • Thanks for the great ideas. Some people may forgot or didn't realize I gave no computer or tv yet, and I live in rural missouri so gettin around without my car will be very hard as everywhere is far away and its 104 outside!

    Some great ideas though thanks!
