Except that the person auctioning has no idea how much wear is left in the tool. Although it shows on the auction itself, it doesn't show in inventory, or in the auction set-up screen. Nor do you have any way of knowing how many units of wear the tool has in total.
All in all, for the tools that don't have a wear bar in your inventory, this is a somewhat flawed implementation. There's really no way to auction any items that are partially used. You either have to repair it before you auction it, or sell it as a broken tool.
WindBorn what are you talking about? Tools that don't have wear bar have no wear. Focus Orbs, Test Tubes and the like are always "new". And you can check your equipments wear before selling by entering the world and hovering your mouse over the tool you want to sell.
Kitchen tools are designedly mysterious... because what's more mysterious than the mystical application of heat and chemical processes to make delicious ingredients into more delicious foods? :)
But seriously folks, we had a temporary problem during the launch of this feature that was displaying "wear bars" on kitchen tools in the auction listings when it shouldn't have. They should all be gone now, so only tools that visibly wear will show those details in auctions.
TRB4, sorry, tools that don't have a wear bar (like kitchen tools such as Awesome Pot) wear out and must be repaired. There are 3 achievements for fixing up those tools.
And, as hitherto said, those wearbars are not usually displayed to the players, but were showing on the auction pages.
It's not just a wear detector. It's also an a-hole detector. It let's you find out who's a sneaky jerk. How about a community even of tarring and feathering?
Noooooooo to the tarring & feathering. Not everyone knows how to Tinker, so selling broken or worn tools is perfectly legit, now that you can see the wear in the auctions.
Personally, I don't really see what all the fuss is about buying a broken tool. You can fix it up literally good as new... XD Or! Have someone else do it for you.
Well, Stoot, I agree it is NOW legit, but what the change has done is show a lot of people selling buted tool for a few bucks shy of full price. These people were definitely trying to pull a fast one.
Arii, that what I did when I bought a broken tool, but I paid a currant less than I would have to a vendor. Only bought it because my wife needed a fancy pick when we were out mining and there wasn't a vendor there. Then it came and I had to use a pile of energy fixing it. I was definitely bamboozled. If it were priced cheaper or had half it's wear left, I'd have no complaint, but that was deliberately shady.
When doing certain quests, sometimes a broken, or nearly broken tool can be more beneficial that a fully working one. Breaking a watering can quest for example. Buy one that's nearly broken = quest done fast.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU devs and non-dev staff, you are awesome, thank you again, and thank you :)
for automatically closing threads after 30 days of inactivity. (And all the other updates to the forums that you've made/are making/will make). I refrained from making too many comments til now and still I probably won't say too much, but it is wonderful how proactive you are in your gaming community.
I could have posted my own thank you thread but decided to bother searching for the most recent one instead, even though it's only a little related.
