I think it's an improvement. If it shows up in local, you can scroll back if you missed or want to double-check something. If not, once it's off the screen, it's gone forever.
Crabs, I can deal with. Rube, doesnt bug me. Frogs? If I have to hear about his bloody yoga one more time its frog's legs for dinner, I tell ya. Yeah. Namaste, buddy. Into the soup pot you go.
Seriously, I do wish there was a way to skip past his dialogue. Yes, yes. Backpacking in Shimla Mirch. My chakrah needs adjusting. blah blah blah. There's only so many non-productive window dismissals one can endure before it starts to bog down the flow of the game.
Jump up and down 32 times and spin counter-clockwise three times and the chat will go back to being all droopy and in need of some sealant to protect it from weather. Eventually, you will have to decide if 12 penguins are more important than 5 monkeys.
I like it. All the talking things go in local, not just Glitchen. It's nice. Well, all the things that have "conversations"- not trees or animals or other harvestables.
Don't see why you would even care what Rube offered you before because there's no going back after you pass up a deal ...
Just seems like a waste of a few lines of code.
Merth: good call on the gnome. I'll put that on the list.
Everyone: this is a general change to make it so that you can see text you'd otherwise miss. Some cases really don't need it (like, as has been pointed out here, the Frog — probably the Crab too). But, in other cases it is hella useful. Hella.
Please continue to point places where it should happen (but is not happening now) and places where it is unnecessary (but is currently happening).
I'm seeing Bureaucrats talking in Local Chat as of now. It appears any NPC/object with a dialogue popup is by default talking in Local Chat (including the Subway Button) which is nice.
Ah, yes...+1 for gnomes, +1 for jujus...I never know what they are coming after me for!
I frankly love the change for even crabs, especially Rube, and alas - sigh, the FrogX.
I honestly wouldn't mind it for some of the critters and trees, since I often miss what they are telling me too...though maybe it would be nice to have a NPC chat window vice them doing it all in local chat...that way some folks that don't want it could close it...
A separate NPC chat log seems like a nice idea. I'd be really interested in having a log of just everything said by NPCs while traveling around including animals, trees, etc. The writers' works deserve more appreciation and attention for all the meticulous allusions and references across thousands of dialogue bits.
The separate log is what I would like to see, and then I'd like it to also report quantities, so I could check up if I miss a HUD [viewport] notification.
How about a "SIRI" wishing well that could answer Glitch encyclopedia type questions. Where is the closest Pot shrine? Throw in a couple of quoins and you get an answer! And, it would show up in local chat! Stayed on topic...so there.
I second BayBi's idea.
So if we are going to have the actions by the player split from local chat, I think there should be an option to merge the two, so you can see both in the same channel.
Many games put different types of messages into separate groups, which you can choose separate colors for and enable/disable. There is already too much spam in the messages so this is even more reason to add a feature like that.
That feature would be nice if the moon was allowed to purr only twice a week. Otherwise, one has to wonder how many wombats actually fit in a size 11 shoe.
As it is its a pain to deal with the frog, he requires too many clicks to get your item, i paid for it, now i have to wait for it and STILL have to click-click-click-click?
I dont dig frog very much at all.
Being able to close local chat entirely would be a nice change, since I IM plenty and rarely use local chat.
I like the Rooked Animals talking in Local Chat for it makes use of animal names, adds to the chaotic atmosphere of a rook attack, are hilarious, and makes it easier to copy and paste for quotation documentation.
Agree with TomC about a separate channel...In that channel I'd also put the meditation stuff, "You're about to croak", and "Gardening is a leisure activity" $%#@ no it's not.
The times I do have ppl w/ me in local it'd be nice not to have the game push up what they say so fast...and still be able to keep group chat big. Right now it's a choice b/c of the incessant mood/energy warnings to even sit and do nothing but chat.
If it's all staying in local then less is more. If there is another channel just for NPCs then YES! Add the trees and animals. Though never the yoga frog.
I like it, I'd like just about everything in the chat, but being able to put different things in tabs or with different colours is something I've always appreciated in other mmo's.
ps: hate the frog.
I have no issue with frogs/rube/crabs, it's the three paragraphs (okay, one) of butterfly-milking text. Milk 6 butterflies and you have nfi what's on the screen.
Sturminator 5 mentioned the HUD notifications; I've been wondering, is there an option to turn those off? I find that they're mostly redundant, since the same messages show up in local chat, and they can sometimes block a whole left side column of the game window (especially after butterfly activities).
Shorten the frog's dialogue, but add a small chance that a flying yak will bring the mail instead and talk your ear off about yogurt.
But seriously...
Pumpkin lanterns should also speak in local.
Butterfly milking notices should move to local, and should just say, "You milked a butterfly" and show you the corresponding energy/mood/xp changes. If the butterfly ascends to a higher plane, indicate it in a separate notice in local.
What you donated to a shrine (and what the rewards were, and whether or not you used powder) should show up in local, so people wouldn't have to keep asking which item(s) were accidentally donated while they were squeezing chickens. (Of course, this would not happen as often if the shrine menu verb order were changed, so "Check favor" would be the default, rather than "Unintentionally donate your 12-sided die for the eighth time.")
This is really useful tweak as my daughters also play & always ask what the rube offered, im so hopeless I forget half the time. I deffo 2nd gnomes, pumpkin lanterns & juju's going into local - lost count the amount of times I miss what they say so have to hang around till they trigger again (on the street routes in particular).
>_>
<_<
... (I like the frog.)Maybe a little more variety would appease the frog-haters?
Definitely ++ jujus in local chat. Knowing that I might get lag-trapped means I never go back to see what the juju is after, but I always want to know.
Showing more things in local chat is a good idea. Secondly please add content saying and make speech more random for the frog, right now hes downright annoying, to the extent that you just want to make him mute.
First, the tweak to butterfly milking notices was GREAT, as I was a bit worried we wouldn't see the... let's say colourful description of the event :P. Second, I agree with Mocha Maid that the juju's should show up in Local Chat (since it isn't used for many other things in AL anyway). Third, I typed this out already and maybe it's more suitable in this thread?? Fourth, I agree with TomC that it's a bit of a shame that we miss out on some of the great writing in Glitch because it's not logged (especially as someone who missed out on the "lore" the plants, animals, and rocks would regale you with, and hopes to see return...).
Thanks for these little tweaks, it's nice to see the game get nice and polished while big content is still being released :)
I was going to suggest the crab rewards, and second everything glum said about accidentally donating stuff to toilets.
Also it would be nice if quoin grabs were noted. After the game has been running for a while and my system is short on memory, I don't see the updates any more in the top left. When I hit a quoin unexpectedly, I have no idea what happened.
I love, love LOVE the new chatter in the local...well, for all except the frog - get enough of him after I'm totally pissed from waiting 10mins + ... I sure don't need a record of him! lol
But, I too, would love having what the trees, rocks and critters say since it's very hard to read them as they are now.
