How long does Glitch last?

To learn all the skills in the game represents an easily quantifiable amount. I also explored most of the map in 2 days. This begs the questions what sort of content would people like to see to keep the game from fizzling? I would think that eventually the housing stock will be completely bought up so housing prices will continue to rise indefinitely until the supply is increased. This may represent a seemingly insurmountable wall for new and poor players compared to those that own a home.
I also think people would tire of having a rather definitive set of actions to partake in, i.e. they'd get tired of harvesting beans, so what should experienced players recommend to them? Should we view the reset as a permanent option for players for when the beta ends so they can relive their experiences over and over (but with more friends)?
I'll end by saying that compared to say Farmville where energy returns over a time limit and friends are almost completely required for every quest; Glitch is refreshingly in the hands of the player. Energy lasts as long as you're willing to eat, drink, and meditate it back up and actions don't have to be partaken in if someone doesn't want to use energy. But this has the double-effect of allowing people to get a lot done during long continuous play sessions or intensively short ones whereas Farmville slows you down through energy-limitation.
So what do you do to prolong your Glitch experience and what new content would you propose to keep new experiences alive?

  • You don't seem to have achieved more than 50 of the 300+ badges.  You've completed 7 out of the more than 90 skills, and visited fewer than 150 of the 500+ streets.   I also suspect you haven't participated in any street building projects.    I can't tell how many quests you've completed, but since you're only level 11, you haven't earned very many xp points,so that points to not having completed very many quests.

When you tire of those, you can create your own goals and achievements.    What is it that you think the game is lacking?

PS every time they open a new region, new housing opens up, and they keep adding new housing in the old areas.  There's zero chance that inexpensive housing will disappear.

  • I also recommend taking a gander at the Ideas forum for many of the ideas alpha and beta testers have discussed

  • At level 11 there is no way you could have even come close to experiencing all that Glitch has to offer. At level 51, I have.... and counting, because more is literally being added ALL the time, and I actively take part in these new additions through street projects (which is one of the major draws for high level players)... these are too advanced for low level players like yourself, however (but don't let that stop you from checking them out). Also, try going through the tower in Jethimadh at some point (--I mean FINISH it). There will be more of that sort of thing in the future, and, as I mentioned, the entire game is ever expanding. This is ONLY BETA, so hold your horses--there's alot more a-coming!

  • I have been here six months.  I am just now completing the last skill.  There are several Achievements I have yet to get.  I am lev. 34.  I feel that i have only just begun though it may seem that i have done almost everything.  If you continue to create your own Goals and Challenges, continue to explore, etc., then the potential of Glitch is limited only by your own imagination.  Get Busy!

  • Napa, I think that's making a very positive comparison, there. =)

I also think it's a pretty damn fine plan to be thinking about what will happen when you've reached "the end" of what you've seen so far to be a visibly finite set of goals, quests, skills and achievements. If you have the time to browse the bajillion forum posts, there has been quite a bit of previous discussion of "what else is there?" and "what else could/should happen?" People want fishing! Cloud cities! Pets! Pets! Pets! Swimming! Different types of weather! Player-run shops! Guild halls! Pets! Cafes! Art galleries! Longer quests! More quests! Cooperative goals! Customizable homes! Pets! (Folks really want pets.)

Glitchen have already formed the Glitch National Bank, a party-planning committee, the Ur Weekly newspaper, and I'm sure there's more fun stuff out there than I've even seen. There are groups for those who want to work on the API and test new scripts, for those interested in auctions and trading, for those who just make up silly things.

I mean, there's new stuff being added all the time to expand the game, and we won't be running ahead of the devs as much after reset... they'll have more time to make even more fun stuff for us, rather than just fix all the stuff we're so determined to helpfully break for them. ;) But here are a few generic things you can try if you run out of things to do:

Shoot for the leaderboards. I mean, there's no way we're gonna catch up to Clare in XP, but you could try visiting all the streets for Top Traveller or being the top donator to a particular Giant.

Play in Plexus. The weird physics there make for a good time!

Welcome the newbies. Give 'em (reasonable) gifts, help 'em with quests, show 'em the awesome stuff, introduce 'em to your friends.

Make a treasure hunt! Leave a series of notes all around that eventually lead to a bag of goodies. Notes are always marked with your name, so everyone will know you're their benefactor.

Get every achievement. Even kevbob just got Necromancer two tests ago. ;)

Set your own goals. I'm currently trying to fill up my spice rack with full stacks of every spice. Boring, perhaps, but I want my space used efficiently, dangit!

Throw parties! Organize events in your house, or in a random street, or whatever. Watch what happens, it's fun.

Organize questing groups. Call out in Global if anyone needs help with the peat/loam/dirt/last egg quest, and rally groups together to help out.

Work on street projects. Build the world! Make new friends! Wonder who the hell brought the yellow dishwasher!

Sorry if this is really basic/generic, but your question was pretty general and it's something that's honestly been gone over a bajillion times as the game has developed. But if you take a look, the Ideas forum is full of, well, more ideas!

You obviously like the game enough to be curious about how it can be improved, so I hope you stick around and see what happens. =D

  • I asked myself this very question around level 11. I'm now at level 19 and it's making a lot more sense. You need to keep going to see what is around the corner. You've only learned just the beginning of it.

  • I was given the impression that Tiny Speck, will be making quest, clothing and other updates throughout the lifespan of the game. I don't remember where I read it, but Stoot mentioned in an interview that since Glitch is programed with Flash it will allow the team to add more content quicker and more often.

So to answer your question - "How long does Glitch last?" - Apparently forever :)

  • especially with the number of friends you can make, if you're social, you'll never be bored. I still feel like I'm just getting my feet wet and I'm level 23. With an expanding world, groups of all types, street projects, party planning, critter naming, newbie helping and the quests TS gives us, there is a LOT to keep us all busy for a very long time.

Whether that's heathy or not hasn't been tested Thank Giants. So I'm going to continue thinking spending all my time on Glitch is good for my health. :)

  • I'm not tired of harvesting food.

I do, at certain points, "finish" harvesting food (when my food slots are full), but I am in no way done this game simply because I have almost every skill I could conceivably use and have explored more than most.

I'll let you in on a secret: I made Level 11 in my first test. I have an extraordinary amount of time I can spend just playing Glitch. While it is open, I play with every free minute I have. I delay eating and sleeping to play. I have 15 skills left to learn, and 33 achievements left to earn (10% or so of the total). I have been playing essentially non-stop every test since I started. There really isn't anything in this game that would be considered "new" to me.

I just got first place in a project phase. The last day of the last test.
That's something I can aim for, work for, and achieve even now for a concrete result.

So no, the game likely wouldn't have an End for me. I can always do something new, even if that thing is not a specific skill to learn or quest to complete. There is more to this game than what you are officially told to do.
