I'm also the first poster in the new forum! <gratuitous ego satisfaction and personal plug>

Curse your ego.
-
Curse your curses! And your inappropriately-placed off-topic-ness!
-
okay.. so am I to assume (hate that word) that the off-topic is for everything NOT game related?
-
Yay, now we need the on-topic forum. :P
-
Yep. That's what it is for, @MzMunchken.
-
Thank god!! Its certaintly needed!!
-
I'm the first actual topic that is off topic.
-
I saw. I replied. :)
-
Argh! Now there moving threads & making me think Im seeing double!
-
Indeed! Threads are being moved over (and now that we finally have that capability, we can move idea and bug threads to the the proper forums as well). Topics that don't have to do specifically with Glitch will be moved to Off Topic from this point on (along with new group announcements and other stuff not of "General" interest).
(This will be made a bit easier later when we give you a view of all/only threads you've posted in so you can find whatever it was, regardless of the forum.)

That will make keeping track of posts so much easier!
Thanks!!!!!

Sounds absolutely amazing :D

@stoot - thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
-
@stoot - Multi-threading? Please! Please! Or is my little project something I should still play with?
-
Thanks stoot, it's great to see the forums get some much-needed love.
(and no multi-threading please!!!! Though a page to see all staff comments would be shiny :))
-
We won't do threading. So, whatever your project is Fokian Fool, you can go ahead and play with it :)
-
LOL. Link in the ideas thread here. Thanks for the semi-official go ahead there, @stoot.
And, yes, I've seen some crappy multi-threading. I can understand why people don't like it, but it's a solution to real problems with forums with a large base of users.
-
Fokian, stop feeling awkward!
-
Nice double post glitch.....Now I feel awkward, too!
-
Bump, for blind Glitches like me who routinely post everything in the General forum.
-
Sub-forums are good. Just don't take it too far or the conversations will get so segregated that the lively discussions will die.
-
I think Ravelry (sorry, registered-member only) has the very, very best threaded forums I've ever seen. There's a "reply" button on comments, but the reply is still kept in the general continuity of the thread. It just adds a little "n replies" link on the original post and a "in reply to" link on the follow-up post. Both open a panel in-place previewing the other comment(s) as appropriate. In a lot of ways, it seems to add a lot of the best of both worlds.
So... if we have threaded forums, can we have them like that?
-
Actually that's aproximately what I had in mind, @duien, but I just made the realization last night WHY it's not practical to move over to multi-threaded. It would require a complex port of the existing forum database that would be prohibitive. If these forums had started out that way originally it would not be an issue, but they didn't. I'm not killing the idea entirely. I'll still try to do a host and maybe things can be migrated over time.
-
@Fokian Fool am I missing something or did Stoot kill your idea. I think your well and truly flogging a dead horse. The words "we WON'T do threading" pop into my head :)
-
Will you thread my needle please.
-
@Misha - I had to consider why he said they wouldn't do threading. And the emphasis on "won't" was your own. :p I'm not flogging a dead horse at all. He also encouraged me to continue on the project anyways. Ready the second half of his statement.
-
@Misha: Well, someone missed something, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't you.
-
@larky lion - Touche. Didn't even check my own thread there. But no, I was responding exactly to her statement as it was worded. Misha did add additional emphasis to another poster's statement. @stoot followed his declaration with some words of encouragement. I think it'll be a fun project and I like the layout of these forums. Clean and simple. I've just known of "under the hood" problems with the site code I've seen personally.
-
fwiw, I'm pretty sure that Misha was referring to both of stoot's comments from the two threads together. And while his first comment in this thread was encouraging, it was made an hour before his 100% confidence/0% chance comment in the other thread. Possibilities for your project may well exist, just not in the official forums. ;)
Eta: this thread... it's off-topic no? ;D
-
Quite true, @katlazam. Didn't see any reference by @Misha to any other thread though. If he had included that in his original response, my own comment would have been different.
-
Misha is a she and probably assumed you checked your own thread for reponses after pointing stoot in that direction. :)
-
<red faced> Sorry, Misha. I thought I saw someone here refer to you as a "he". I know the name is masculine is some places so I thought that was what was going on. Thanks for the correction, @katlazam (I think I will eventually get spelling your name out with making typos eventually!)
-
@Fokian Fool yes I am a she, long hair, high heels like pink etc etc. ;)
Yes people are correct in there assumptions on why I emphasized the word
WON'T. I had seen Stoot tell you twice that he is not going to take on your idea. He also used the word "play" with it. As in, it is not serious but a project that your making just for your entertainment. Stoot is quiet clearly a gentleman, but as you see I'm not, so was trying to tell you "The man from Del Monte says "NO" you were just not listining.
-
This thread isn't necessarily off-topic, lol. Unless you think it's GOTTEN off topic! :P The thread's about a change made to Glitch, even if it's not in-game. They deleberately left my QUILTBAG thread in this forum but moved my Pottermore thread to the other, because the former is about a group in Glitch and the latter is completely unrelated to Glitch, lmao.
-
FYI, while they didn't make the forums multi-threaded, they did make the status updates that way, and in the manner I had proposed. :) <smug, vindicated look>
-
<WTF weirded out look>
-
@Fokian hows the job application going? I'm sure if your so wonderful there going to whip you up in a jiffy :)
