Watching a tradition form: Wishes on the Head of the Dragon

A while ago, I hid a treasure on the head of the dragon. (If you don't know where it is or how to get there, I'm not going to spoil it.) I left clues all about and many many folks found it. (I am sure most found it without the clues and just found the spot on there own.) I also left one drink on the dragon's "nose" just to be silly.

It was cool to come back to check on the treasure and see that folks had left stuff with the treasure. But even more fun was seeing many many drinks left on the nose.

But even cooler is going back there this test because a tradition had developed without any involvement from me. I have no idea how it started... but it is so awesome:

Leaving notes on the Dragon's Head with your wishes.

That is just cool. It has depth and feels... real. It has that sense of a culture being developed... for from outside (devs) or even by individual players. But a tradition that springs up from nothing. Like wishing on a shooting star or throwing a coin in a well. It is the kind of thing myths are born out of. Not a manufactured myth but an organic one.

In that little thing I see the potential for Glitch.

  • You're welcome, emdot. I wish I would have taken one the last time I was there, as the entire span was covered with wish notes along with food, drink, gems, powders, and all manner of things. It was a little more tidy this time. I guess that just leaves more room to place your items and requests.

It really gives one a sense of what Lord Bacon-o was on about. A pilgrimage of sorts, where at the end of your journey you leave your offering and cast a wish. Quite cool.

  • I heard about this and knew the place straight away, and I wanted to go and leave my wish. I went and left my note and an offering and then headed out around the streets. I then thought about going back and leaving more stuff so I headed back.

Shortly after I arrived back again, to my surprise I was left a wonderful note and presents from a glitch who had read my wish! I was amazed and most thankful.

*This* is why I love this game.

  • I'd love it more if wishes came true.

  • "I'd love it more if wishes came true."

I believe that  is on the list. Somewhere after "decorating houses" and "jetpack ninjas."

  • This is so great!  I had heard about it from Hburger, but I'm not sure if that's the origin of the "leave a note for a wish".  Not sure if my wishes can actually come true.

  • I've only been playing for a couple of days, but it's stuff like this that truly excites me about the potential in this game. Of course it already has character and potential just from what the developers alone have created and envisioned, but players themselves starting little traditions like this--especially in such good spirit--are the things that truly give a game and its community life. :)

  • How cool.  I totally agree Mahkia- it's the people playing around with different aspects that make the game so awesome.

  • Thank you, thank you - I've been trying to get on the dragons nose for so long... seeing Mishu up there inspired me to find the way :)

    http://beta.glitch.com/forum/bugs/6214/
    I swear it's not just me! I do think it's a bug. I can't get up there.
