So lonely!

I've kinda noticed with the new housing resource upgrades that the mines have got real quiet with uncollected plops everywhere, the bogs are almost deserted since Jellisacs and Barnacles are now domesticated and the home streets have trees dying of neglect with no tending having happened for ages - at least the wood trees have survived. It's like round where I live when the civic upgrades used to happen the feral kids had wrecked them within a few days but now they survive for years till maturity off the back of X-Boxes and inexpensive cheeseburgers. It must now almost be possible to play the game without leaving the house so have resources got too accessible and helped to breed a generation of (R2) stay-at-homes?

  • I was just out jelly collecting and ran into a number of players...quite frankly, more than I have in the recent past...mines have been rather quiet for a while...well before the R2 release...

  • I'm becoming a completist all other the place, I only go home to drop off things that are clogging up my inventory

  • That's been a concern of mine too Benzyl.  Not so much now but when the new housing and imagination points get rolled out for "real".  We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

  • I've found it to be the opposite the past few days. I actually see players on the streets now instead of going from street to street never seeing a single Glitch.

  • Actually, with the reset and imagination, we won't be able to install all of the resources for free right away in our properties.  It's going to be pretty expensive by the looks of it.  So there will be a rush of players hitting Ur to get the resources they need to build back up to what they had during testing!

The one thing that will mitigate that rush is that everybody can be stockpiling now to get ready for the switch.

In any case, what is happening now is definitely NOT a good indicator of what the game dynamics will be in a month.  Not with all the changes still to come.

  • There will be group halls in the future.

  • I agree with the op's premise-i dont see many glitchen about.
Except for cebarkul (the place of die-ing) , and enchanted forests- I dont see glitches much when i happen to roam about.
and generally, right now, I am NOT roaming about much in UR. With the house streets or my own street and other neighbors streets having so much resources -then I havent needed to go out to UR much .except to go vendor shopping for neccessities .
I am wondering what the coming changes will bring also.
and i greatly look forward to group halls.

  • Looks like it's time for a Lonely Faded Hearts club. Maybe glitches wouldn't be as lonely if we could go into the Hell Bar together.

@Thursday Soleil, what is this "future" you speak of? Is it like soonTM?

  • I think that regions like Groddle and the fire bogs will always have some people doing stuff but what about places like Besara which has all the same things as Groddle. Besara has no subway station, infact there is no subway station in any adjacent religion either, you could teleport there but why would you when no one lives there and all the same resources are available in more convenient areas. With this new housing it will be really easy to ignore areas that are remote or don't have resources that are only found there.

  • I'm not lonely - I'm out in the world resource gathering almost constantly, when I'm in-game! There's XP to be had in them thar streets!

  • Wait until the foxes and sloths are released. They will be wild only.

  • It has been quiet and I think some regions will get even quieter e.g. Kavalana is a bit of a backwater already and will likely become very deserted once the geographic houses go. Still on the other hand it'll be nice to occasionally get away from the hordes of Glitches in and around the usual gathering places too.
btw according to the wiki Sloths snack on these!

  • Pretty soon all the streets will be gone.
We'll all talk to each other telepathically, and transport through imagination to each other's house.

    Nah, screw that.

  • I still frequent Kalavana when I can! Catch me when I'm on sometime and we can levitate together! I also hang in Shimla Mirch, at Kalix Follows.

    (I jest!)

  • I'm not worried about areas being/becoming deserted, for one thing we never know what the Awesomers are cooking up for future releases, but also the new housing is exactly that: new.
People are getting to know it, and (hopefully) enjoying all the new things that have been introduced, once the novelty wears off (and the next new thing comes in) people who enjoy being sociable, will be back in Ur with all their friends.
Also -like Carl P. mentioned above- it will take time/effort/imagination to create homes and home streets; there will be a rush on resources ~and we all know how competitive players can get!
..and then there's the influx of many new players once the game goes live again...

  • I was worried when the new housing was first released for a bit, but with things like the Enchanted Forests being added in, especially to dead-end streets, and the new animals etc, I think it will be much less of an issue.

    @ Zubes: Of course!

  • I'm thinking home street development will just be a big fad.  Sooner or later people will wise up and see that they're spending their hard-earned imagination to put resources out on their street that other people run in and deplete.   Then the whole "trees and gardens in my front yard" thing will become so passe...

  • You are probably very right on that, WalruZ.  Unless there is some sort of pay-off.

  • Some of us like using our hard-earned whatever for other people's enjoyment.  My main goal in games with multiplayer is to get an absurd amount of money or equivalent resources just so that I can stand around giving ridiculously expensive gifts to interesting strangers. (Hint: most strangers are interesting.) If I can also supplement that with growing stuff for everyone, I get to please both my inner philanthropist and my inner socialist.

  • My hope is that there will be badges for home street projects. That way there is a strong emphasis on replenishing other peoples streets when they are depleted.
(and in the same vain I really hope some of the project stuff involves breaking some kitchen tools, I'm really sick of making flour [to break my knife and board] !)

  • @Boaz Jachin: 2 (at least) new regions are in the pipeline. So presumably Street projects are too. And I broke so many kitchen tools when we built Rasana I lost count
Posted 8 months ago by IrenicRhonda Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @IrenicRhonda : That's awesome, I missed that somehow. But, I still would like other means of breaking kitchen tools then general street projects. While street projects are great I somehow seem to miss most of the action when they pop up. Another method of damaging kitchen tools is needed since damage doesn't build up like other tools.
Posted 8 months ago by Boaz Jachin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Damage does build up, it's just invisible!  (I know this because there was a bug not all that long ago that exposed it briefly.)  It should be possible, albeit somewhat rare, to break kitchen tools through normal use.

  • My kitchen tools break on a regular basis.
