Ode to Sleeping Giants (aka When will it open thread)

All the giants have gone to sleep
The world is silent in their keep
So my little Glitch has gone away
And I cannot make her come to play

I want to see her again and soon
So I thought I'd chant a pious tune
To see if it has the power to make
A sleeping giant come wide awake

I'm asking you if there's any harm
In joining up as a group to charm
The giants with our Pious chanting
Thus no "when will it open" ranting

So giants won't you hear our plea
Awaken soon so the world will be
Filled with laughter and fun again
And I won't have to ask anyone...

When?

  • +1 Enola, very nice!!

-10 Skwid-ward. (*pinches Skwid*  Yep, I read that you were going spam all threads that even remotely came close to saying "when" with that link. Stop, take a moment, smell the flowers, and enjoy the poetry.)

  • Bingo! Yes please, everyone, let's make this the unofficial offical WWIO thread, OP has great prose! :D

And yep, like Djoe6897 said, mid-week, according to @isglitchopen. :)

Let's nag the devs to sticky this.

  • Is it bad that the strongest response I have to this thread is, "Why in the giants' names is everyone calling it prose? It's not prose, it's poetry. OBVIOUSLY."

  • Arii, I called it poetry :P

  • Thanks for the kind words everyone.  I wanted to start a "When?" thread.  I get a lot out of them!  Last time I looked this was a public forum so I felt I had a right to start one but, out of respect for those who object to these threads, I tried to say it in a less irritating way.  That was my sole motivation for doing it like this!  I hoped people would be amused instead of annoyed.

@Gia Toria - I thought it was a game of Giant imagination not Giant dreaming which is why I thought they must be asleep.  Should I change this into a lullaby to put them to sleep instead of trying to wake them then?

@Skwid - I know some people, including yourself, don't like WWIO threads which is why I clearly labelled this as one.  I thought it would forewarn those who find these threads annoying and they could ignore this post and let those of us who enjoy asking "when" have our little bit of foolish fun ;D

I love hearing other people express their feelings of impatience in these threads because they often make me laugh or think "Yes!  That's exactly how I feel!" and it makes me feel a closer bond with those players even if I don't know anything else about them.

There are a lot of ways to build a strong community and, for me, sharing thoughts about being locked out of the game is one of them.  I will try to be creative about how I word future threads but I warn you now, if nobody else starts one just before each test, I almost certainly will.

Apologies to those who might be upset by it.  In the words of some worthy person whose name I cannot recall right now...

"I may not like what you have to say but I will defend to the death your right to say it" or words to that effect :D

  • Enola, IMO, you should NOT! have to apologize for your love, and expressing your love of Glitch.  And asking "WHEN!" is your way.  And yes you are right, you have the right to post this, whether others like it or not :)

I loved your poem, and I deeply look forward to reading more of them!

ETA: (OMG, I am so embarassed, I can not believe I missed that NOT!!  I am so sorry Enola, I meant you should NOT have to apologize!  Oh wow....gonna go hide in the corner now so you will not see me turning this red)

  • @Enola: it only annoys me when there are multiple threads for WWIO after a test and you can see them practically one after another if you look at the forums. I prefer either one official one or just one after every test.
Posted 16 months ago by Piratice Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm not offended, in fact I enjoyed the read. I think I would have enjoyed it more if you'd left the WWIO text off the topic. ;-)
Posted 16 months ago by Skwid Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Skwid - lol and if I can refer to something you said in another thread:

"Posting multiple threads asking when the game will open is the forum equivalent of the whiny child in the back seat asking "Are we there yet?" every 10 minutes for a 6 hour trip. Posted 31 hr ago by Skwid "

I had two children and regular 8 hour car trips when they were small.  I got in the car knowing it was coming, expecting it, prepared for it and it never annoyed me but it did annoy them lol

    Them: "Are we there yet?"
    Me: "Yes."
    Them: "Awwwwww we are not!"
    Me: "Prove it."
    Them: "Muuuuuuum."
Me: "What?  Ask a silly question and you will get a silly answer."

    Ten minutes later.

    Them: "Are we there yet?"
    Me: "Nearly."
    Them: "Really?"
    Me: "No."
    Them: "Muuuuuuum!"
Me: "What?  Ask a silly question and you will get a silly answer."

They learned not to ask unless they were so bored even a silly answer would do and now it is me who asks them if we are there yet and they laugh and say "Yes".

As a Glitchian child I am prepared to accept even a silly answer to my question ;D

  • Enola, I edited my post above. I deeply apologize for missing the word NOT.
Posted 16 months ago by Innie✿, Obviously Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Enola: Your story about the car trips with your kids reminded me of a story of my little sister.

Whenever we'd go to my grandparents (only about a 30 min drive, but when you're as young as she was at the time, of course it feels like forever), she'd always ask how much longer. And my dad would usually respond with something like, "Just a little while." One day on this trip, after we reached a certain landmark or something, she stated, "Just a few more whiles to go!"

  • Enola, you do NOT to apologize! (I second that Innie.) Nor does anyone who starts a WWIO thread. Those who are bothered by them should just not read them.

So, when will it open??? I know, mid-weekish, but when?
Posted 16 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Enola -- OMFG ROFL, my dad used to do the same thing to me!

@Audaria -- Let's all take bets on when it will open! My magical talking money says Wednesday around 3:00 PST. :3

  • "soon"

So, since we all know what "soon" means... when they say "very soon" does that mean in even less time, or does that mean an exaggeration of the meaning of "soon". Very different meanings, no? ;)

  • Really brilliant Enola! I love the "Ode" - love poetry in general (except when people make it tiresome with quoting rules about how it HAS to be this way or that way)! This just made the WWIO thread creative and wonderfully whimsical! Hats off to you, my fellow poet! :D

  • @Innie - Phew, thanks for clearing that up!  I must admit it confused me.. I thought you might have accidentally left the "not" out but didn't know how to respond in case you hadn't lol.  Thank you and no need to apologise :)

@Little Miss Giggles - loved your story about your sister.  My kids wised up too and began answering each other before I could respond which used to cause lengthy, and loud, discussions between them about "I wasn't asking you" lol.

@Arii - Hope I didn't revive bad memories for you lol

@Hab Nlab - I don't claim to write poetry as I never had any training so don't know the rules.  I am glad people are calling this poetry but I have no idea if it meets technical requirements lol

@Everyone who said nice things about the ode or supported my right to make this thread - Awwww thank you!  *Blushes*

  • Had a rough night, a tiring day, and a really distressing evening.  Needing some imagination to help me smile.  Please my sweet Giants, please use your imagination and bring back our world.  Until then, I will go watch more videos on youtube, so that I can pretend you are imagining us.
