More Antagonistic Entropy

Crows are cool, but the fight against entropy could be made more omnipresent. Perhaps a street gets hit with a tree blight, and triggers a project to catch all the beetles, or make an ointment, to prevent large scale tree death and the spread to new streets. Maybe vandals deface the buildings, and we need to restore them.

I say this only because I have yet to run into a crow, and the only changes I see happen are when I forget to water my trees :)

  • ooh, I like the tree blight idea. That would be a good community bonding thing.

Or mad piggie flu could strike, turning friendly piglets into angry porkers, running amok, headbutting all and sundry unless petted en masse and fondled with special Hogflu ointment.

Butterflies could lay eggs in the fruit trees and the caterpillars would need to be watered out of existence with a watering can + caterpillar powder mix before they destroy the crop.

Egg plants could get Sam and Ella disease and gas plants suffer from Christmas Sprouts Syndrome...

Ah, the possibilities for amusing destruction are endless...

  • Ohhh. Good ideas. I like the idea of the tree blight/beetles too. Branching off these ideas would be a great way to built more community projects.

  • i think , with a game about creativity, we need problems to solve. sometimes people are their most creative when they have a problem to solve. problems affecting a whole community are a great idea.

  • Awesome ideas. I love the idea of massive ecological disasters we all need to help fix. :)

  • Love these ideas.

  • Perhaps if players could choose whether to create or destroy, the community could become a force of entropy. Like players who align with the rooks as opposed to the giants. And rather than make it a rather tired Good v. Evil, it could be more constructive, ie Players who prune trees to allow the trees to grow even greater harvests, or rare ingredients. The tension is to not let too much entropy in, or else pruning becomes clear-cutting and the tree in my example gets planked. Therefore, bonuses for skirting closer to the edge without crossing it

On one hand, this could create resentment in the community, but if handled properly it can be like the difference between the pencil lead and the eraser. Everyone loves the lead, but few would be willing to write very long without the benefit of the eraser.

  • +1 on minor blights all the way up to ecological disasters.

  • I remember hearing since the game is still in alpha the rooks arint in the game at all yet. Hence why everything is pretty calm.

Minor blights would help to bring people together and I would love to see headbutting piggies.

  • (mentioned elsewhere as well)

I like the idea of what someone else called "rook players", but I don't think you should get to choose that from the get go, I think it should be an advanced phase, like what was called "ascension" in another thread. I don't think players should be tasked with messing with the world until they really understand how to live in it. But I love the idea of experiencing Glitch from as many perspectives as possible (see other threads about playing as animals, frex).

It would be way cool if only rook players could see other rook players in a street, and they were invisible to newer players. How cool would it be to level to a certain point and suddenly be able to see rook players on a street, crafting and setting their creeping malaise widgets?

ETA: see this thread, it was clare who mentioned rook players: alpha.glitch.com/forum/gene...

  • fire.

glitchizen bucket brigades relaying buckets from water sources to the fire to put it out.

  • +1 for the fire idea. Can we get to wear helmets?

  • lol striatic, you really like that fire idea! alpha.glitch.com/forum/idea...

I admit, a bucket brigade of players really does lend itself to the left-right scrolliness of the streets. But fires start up high too--what about streets with multiple vertical elements?

  • A huge fire that would wipe out the whole of Groddle forest. That'd just be *terrible*!

  • Actually a fire in Pasha's Quarter would be devastating. :(

  • if there's a vertical element the final player in the line can run the bucket up and down a ladder.
