New Special Coloring Book Location Idea

I had a dream about Glitch... go figure... you go to sleep thinking about something and end up dreaming about it!

I've been thinking about news skills for the game. One of those skills was the ability to change the color of items in the game. Here's the post for that idea: http://beta.glitch.com/forum/ideas/6501/

The main purpose I had for this skill was to be able to go to a Special/Secret Location (similar to Plexus) and have fun painting/coloring the location!

As I imagined it, the location would load and all the objects would have slightly thicker black outlines and varying amounts of a grayscale shading to be able to give depth, tell them apart and not drive you berserk! I see this area looking somewhat like a coloring book style. Perhaps more cartoony than the rest of the game. If that goes against the harmony of the game, then it could still have the same look... that's just how it was in my dream. :)

After you colored an item, it would seem preferable that it be locked for a certain amount of time. This would prevent other people from coming behind you and just changing things up to frustrate others. :) Then, after the time expired, the color would fade back to its' original setting and be available to color again by you or someone else.

Ready for extrapolation on this idea! Go!!!

  • i like this, and i also like the idea of maybe it not reverting to original, but just becoming unlocked so someone can color it differently. maybe "revert to original" can be somebody's color choice but until someone chooses to revert, the thing stays a different color.

it could be a lot of fun to see it change over time.

maybe a time-lapse recording of it changing over time that could be watched as a movie in-game?

  • +1 Maybe have some of the coloring areas in cave streets as a nice little hat-tip to the painted caves of France and Spain.

  • I think this idea is sort of cute, although I would be in favor of it always constantly slowly fading. Like taking an hour to fade out over people's paintings or some such. Mainly because of griefers, I must admit, but also because I think decay and change are interesting themes in and of themselves, artistically.

  • +1!  Except I'd have the natural color be a greyish-white. Perhaps the Rooks stole all of the color! *GASP*

  • This immediately made me think of Snool! I'd love to have a black and white version of Snool (or something Snool-like) that I could color in to my heart's content. Preferable one without other people's abandoned chickens in it. :D

  • It would be fun.  It might be possible to have something like this on a broader scale.  A B&W zone where each Glitch can paint or add colors as they move along.  What you paint would fade away behind you as you progress along the street.  You can go back and redo it or see what someone behind you has done.  it would gradually fade out so that everyone would have a chance to paint without having to generate thousands of instances so that each person had their own "coloring book".  maybe a new "seam" street.
