Invite 3 friends from FB

I don't do Social Networking, there I said it.

I'm not a Luddite, I am in the tech industry, I teach and tutor topics in the Computer Sciences and Information Assurance fields, and have been gaming since TSR was an acronym for Tactical Studies Rules, a little company that published a set of rules for a new kind of wargame based on fantasy genres...

I do however (gasp) have friends even without a twitter, my Space,  or Face Book account!  A few of them have been gaming on- and offline for as long as I have (mid-seventies) and a couple of them might be interested in testing/buying Glitch.

Is there oh Devs a way that I can maintain my Social Networking virginity and still offer my friends a pass into Ur?

If not I can accept that, but I would like to see less tie in with Social Networking.  I've enjoyed my time in Glitch without being a Social(networking) butterfly (I hate being milked 0.o...)

  • They're working on e-mail invites, and your friends can request an invite via e-mail from the glitch.com home page. On top of that, there are often periods of "queue-jumping" in which the staff let players know to let their friends know to visit a queue-jumping link in order to expedite their invitations to the game.

  • Note that in certain browsers the sign up page only offers the FB sign up option (email link doesn't appear).  Have your friends use Chrome or Firefox to be sure they see the email option to sign up (at least one version of IE did not have the email link displayed on the join page).

As Cerulean mentioned, they can then use queue jumping (when it's available) to jump the line to get an invite.  You don't get to control if they get an invite, but typically if they queue jump, they should get an invite by the next test (and sometimes sooner).  Queue jumping can be found at www.glitch.com/fans but they only open at certain times (usually when the test is running).

And yes, it will be much easier when we finally get email options for invites. Good to hear other computer folks don't use FB...

  • I literally made a facebook account SPECIFICALLY to invite my boyfriend. It has a fake name, and took maybe 5 minutes to do, including friending him and then logging on to his and accepting the request.

Of course, it would have been easier if I could have just used email, but usually "check to see if your friends are here" functions by simply giving the website your email password, which I definitely never do because it seems iffy.

  • +1 to someday using just plain old email addresses:)

  • email invites are more difficult than FB invites for a few reasons.

mostly that it requires a link that can be unsuccessfully recycled, stuff lands in spam folders, and other complexities. it's a bit of a hassle.

not that glitch shouldn't do email based updates.

just that i can understand why implementing such things would lag.

  • Thanks for the kind replies folks.  I appreciate the information, I couldn't find the answers anywhere else on the site.

@biohazard I may swallow my pride and try your route.

  • Thaddeus, there's no need to swallow your pride :)

Just use the queue jumping at b3achy's link (when the game is open) and you don't need to bother with FB at all. (link again: http://www.glitch.com/fans)

I didn't use FB to sign up for Glitch because I just don't use FB all that much. And I was/am wary of using FB for anything :p
