new streets after the reset

So, how will building new streets work, post-reset? During the past 3 tests, each street building project required help from those who had level V in tinkering, etc. After the reset, it will take several days for players to reach that level, so will no new streets be built in the meantime? Or will the skill requirements be adjusted based on the fact that our skills all reset as well?

  • i'd be fine as is. no real need for streets, is there?

besides, there was a middle period in the test so far where people only typically had 1 or 2 of the 3 or 4 top end skills needed and I thought that had a way of keeping participation (or at least discussion) up since you we had to reach out for people to fix certain skill sets.

  • That's a good point! Hopefully the jobs will be readjusted for the first test or two. But, well, like AC, I wouldn't be too bothered if no new streets were made for the first tests because of this.

I mean we *could* organise ourselves so that each of us to chooses one branch of the skill tree and work our way down it so when we're all together, we have the skills necessary.

  • I think the devs can change the street building requirements to whatever they need for the current test, no? I think. I don't know. :P Maybe this next test will be focused on something else...

at the very least, streets = trees and streets = ore.

unless you have no use for trees or ore, then sure, maybe you wouldn't need streets.

as the number of players increases, the game world also needs to get larger in order to accomodate the resources they need in order to do stuff.

i had sort of assumed that the player reset would not involve a geography reset for this reason.

also because i bet the devs want to test the subway more, and having to rebuild all of groddle heights and all of shimla mirch again would take a very long time.

and also because now that trees are "native" to regions, having to rebuild everything except groddle forest and ix and uralia might complicate that.

  • i think you read WAY too much into what I said striatic. i wasn't decrying streets, as either projects, diversity, or volume, just that I wasn't concerned over the concern over the need immediately after reset. let me fill in the blanks for you and then maybe we'll be on the same page:

"i'd be fine as [the process from this past test phase] is. no real [immediate] need for [a quick pace of more then the starting] streets [as we wait for people to level up the skills that may take 24-72hrs to work up to, even when donating to max], is there [it seemed to do ok last test, and now that we all know how they went i'm sure people will focus on getting up to speed and making it go faster this time around]?

    see you in game =)

  • Geography resets... interesting idea. Would some of the streets be wiped? Because while I know lots of people will come and play and need space/resources, if the world started from its current size and then expanded, it might get overwhelming for new people (I know when I started a while back I was totally lost for a loooooong time, and ended up not moving outside the same couple of streets for fear I'd never find my way back to anything).

  • i think that resets have more often than not left geography alone, and i agree with striatic that the more people sign up to play, we are going need more resources/expansion of the game world.

i think we're definitely starting to see the effects of scaling up on player numbers has on the game, especially in projects. not only was it really difficult to load the street once 20+ people were there, as it was mentioned in the other projects thread, the item and work requirements were completed incredibly quickly. i myself was guilty of hogging the 20k currant donation in the last stage, because i was tired of getting locked out of trophy pieces due to all the lag.

i don't think a larger world will necessarily be overwhelming for new players, especially as the map continues to get updated with markers for things like subway stations and projects, or even the ability to make your own notes on the map (a higher level penmanship skill called cartography?)

  • I think a "street reset" could be realistically applied in the form of natural/man-made disasters. A street/region is destroyed, and people are stuck until they rebuild the streets and region they are in. People in other regions could reach out to help where they can, from the outside in.
