We all come in all shapes and sizes.

I was thinking about this the other day during test when I noticed that my Glitchen looked "small" in a certain setting. And I wondered "Hmm... what if we could make our Glitchen shorter, taller, bigger, smaller, thinner, wider, darker, brighter?" I know we can already alter our colors and the like, but I realized that there was no such alteration for size. I just think it would be cool to be able to express our Glitchuality in yet another dimension. Like Miis, lol. Anyone that's made a Mii knows you can drag up to make it taller or drag out to make it wider. :)

Just a thought. I know that it's probably not even a practical idea, haha, but I thought it was cool, regardless, so I figured I'd share.

  • That would be very cool! :D
I'd want a tallish and super fat glitch, so that he can create peat bogs when he bounces around the place.
Would amuse me seeing Giant Glitches stomping about the place :D  Walking around minding my own business when a giant foot squishes me xD

  • Oh I know what you're thinking, you bad boy! ;-)

Although I wouldn't mind having slightly longer legs!  In real life also!

  • Only if it would be made to work with the platforming, something I am very skeptical of.

  • My Glitcherina is perfection as she is. Just as I am happy being  5'6"  she is content with  the form given her by the Glitch artists.....new clothes, a  new hair style....that is all it takes to bliss out and just enjoy each day and to thank God I am alive.

  • it could easily be made to work with the platforming.

the issue is if it could be made to work with the clothing.

i'm guessing it probably could, if the head sizes remained constant and the warping was done pre-rasterization.

but not sure it would be worth the effort, and certain clothes might look odd 'post skew'.

  • While I appreciate the variation possible with the Mii, I actually prefer that Glitch avatars keep their adorable, pot-bellied forms.  I like the idea that we're all physically the same, and only cosmetically different.  Also, I agree with striatic: clothes wouldn't fit properly if we were different sizes.

  • I have to say, I'm with glum on this. I love that we are all the same body type. Maybe because I have been so many different weights in real life over the years...it's nice to "live" in a world where fat/thin/medium (and height...I'm a short 5'4", hubby 6'6" eeek) don't play a role in how things work, how you are perceived, how you navigate your world....

  • Maybe we could just have more quests like the esti life catalog where we're "shrunk" down or made extra large in relation to our environment. I realize that's not what cerulean was talking about, but it could be fun too.

  • That's a great idea, FrankenPaula... and it would be a lot of fun to grow to ten times our normal size and run around the regular streets stomping on things, the way Super Mario can in one (two?) of the newer games.  Forget that "follow" command... we could pick up other people's avatars in our gigantic hands and run around with them.

  • Hahaha! I now have an image in my mind of a giant sized glitch running around and picking up little glitches and setting them up on high platforms where they can't get down. :)

  • I love my Glitch body and don't want to change it, except maybe have somewhere like Plexus but go through mirrors like at a boardwalk and all of our bodies get taller or wider or squiggley.  I'm sure this would be completely impractical just thought it would eliminate the clothes thing if everything changed in one little world.

  • I'm actually pretty fond of the current, cookie-cutter Glitchen bodies! I don't really want to think of them as having metabolisms / "real bodies," even though I think people should enjoy their real bodies in real life.

  • +1 Pomegrandy.  I rather like our similarity too.

Interestingly, a study found that avatar appearance can actually affect users' behavior. So maybe having more similarity is a way to help keep us more equal, and treating each other more fairly?

  • Ooo, Lelu, I think you are on to something.  I haven't looked at your study yet, but I have heard of studies where students were told that they could do X (shock, other mild torture) to another student without them knowing who they were, and with them knowing who they were.  They were much more likely to do X if the other student did not know who they were.  This seems to be an example of appearance influencing behavior toward others.  I have just begun to play, and I have already noticed that I want to avoid the "scary" or "mean" looking Glitchens.

  • I like our Glitches as they are... Although like spinach allowing u to jump high, u could go all 'Alice in Wonderland' and have something u could eat/drink that allowed u to grow/shrink for a short period (few sec's)...??

  • When Piety first came out, I read the description carefully. One part says "you'll have the tallest friends around". part of me thought learning that skill would make some of your friends grow.

  • I have looked at the study Shmoopie is referring to.

And I understand the ease of treating everyone equally when they look equal. The actual problem, and why it affects user behavior, may lie in the fact that people don't like diversity as much as they'd lead you to believe. Meaning, that people (and Glitchen) should treat others equally, but if a larger amount of diversity changes that, the problem is not within the diversity, it is within the users that choose to discrimate. That's simply what's true of human nature, lol.

Anywho, I know that this isn't practical and I knew a lot of people wouldn't like it. I just envision a world where diversity can truly be fully appreciated. And I mean IRL, not just in Glitch, haha.

  • I agree with the points about equality. Really no need to let people feel any more or less superior than each other.

That said, it would be fun if we had an area that acted like a funhouse and stretched us out in zany ways!
