Wanderlust - or - Why I am moving, again...

So I saved up all my currants, helped my best friend buy her house in Alakol, then she repaid me so I could get one in Andra just like hers.  I had moved from my treehouse to a firebog house then to a cave in Kajuu then to my Andra mansion and now am thinking about moving, again, in less than a week.

Is anyone else this wanderlusty?  Is it that I'm dissatisfied with all the housing options available?  Am I just a freak?  =/

  • I moved from a tree house in Muufo to a cave house in Andra, and from there to a cottage in Bortola. Now I'm in a mansion in Alakol, and I have the urge to go back to a cottage, or try out a firebog house. I honestly thought I'd be happy and settled once I hit the modern mansion, but apparently not. O.o

    On the other hand, moving now would be a pain. I have 30 pigs. Plus a lot of stuff lying on the ground. ^^;

  • I had always wanted a mansion so I got one as quick as possible. I LOVE my mansion! I wouldn't trade it for any other house out there! And I can't wait for housing customization!!!!! but that's just me lol

  • I've moved about a dozen times since reset. In beta I lived in Groddle Heights and had a few crop patches, trees, and critters. I wanted to try herb plots after reset, cuz herbs was something I hadn't explored much yet. So I bought a place in the bogs for that reason. But every time a quest came up that needed crop plots, I moved back to a house with those - a different sort and area each time... then back to bogs once the crop quest was done. But finally, the music in the bogs got to me, even living very close to Groddle so that "escape" from it wasn't difficult, so back to yet another sort of crop house, this time a 15K cottage in Bortola. I like the house I'm in now just fine, I think, but Bortola is so much darker and drearier than Groddle, so I reckon I may be moving yet again once I'm through wandering around the northern areas. (When I lived in Groddle Meadow, I was so busy with the yard and cooking, I seldom wandered around, so I think I want to do that some more before moving again.)

Editted to add: (Just to clarify - I like the music in the bogs okay for exploring, just not indoors in my house.)

  • Still in my first house and I'm lvl 28. Groddle Heights 4k hole in the wall but after looking at all of the other setups the only thing I'd be paying for would be more crop plots. Going to just keep saving up and WHEN the new streets open up see whats being offered .....

  • I got a treehouse in Muufo, but after two weeks I decided to move into a treehouse in Aranna. If the area gets finished and another frontier area opens up I'll move again.

  • I moved 4 times before I ended up in this bog house.  I like it pretty much - I would only move if a new type of housing opened up.

  • I've moved over 15 times in the last three weeks.

I *think* I am settled down now, as I have a tremendous house and I've explored most of the advantages of every type of house available in the game now.

  • It's not just housing type (for me) it's location, too!  But I've only moved 3 times.   I need mah huge storage space.

  • I've been in my little apartment in Panko Press for several days, and thought about moving, but really all I'd want is more storage, and I can't afford one of the big places yet, so!

  • I'm purposely moving from place to place so I can experience all the houses. I'm ready to move again.

I live in Bortola, in an Asian style house. The house has 5 trees. The trees are all squished together which makes a pain for harvesting. The trees are also too close to the garden and that is also annoying when I'm trying to specifically work on my crops.
The animals are in the way of my garden and trees too. I had to set some free because it was just all too much for that space. I had a tree house before this Asian style house and although it was smaller, it was actually much better.

I'm not sure what I want next. I really wish we could have some shelving to drop items on instead of the floor but that's a whole new subject.

  • Wow thanks for the replies everyone!  Glad to know I'm not a weirdo.  Well not about this at least.  ^_^

    I agree about the shelving!

  • I have lived in :
Groddle Forest tree house - during beta. I loved it except climbing the tree to get home was annoyingly labor intensive.  Three patches + 12 plots was a nice number.

Meadow cottage - right after launch. I had a veggie house. So cute. I loved the five tree plots but the surrounding streets were so packed with Glitches that I would get lost in the crowd sometimes!

Kalavana swamp house - wanted something off the beaten path. It was maybe too far off the path. It took forever to get to the subway. Loved the house though. Adorable design. It was awesome to be able to put things on the furniture.  The music was annoying and I missed having crop plots though so after a couple of weeks of herb cultivation I moved. I considered a 50k house (I had enough currants) but it felt awfully cold and spare so I ended up choosing...

Bortola cottage - Less populated than the meadows (although that is changing) but close to the subway, the ancestral lands, the frontier.  I really like it so far although I would love a swamp house again if I could change the interior music and grow crops as well as herbs.

  • During beta I moved a lot to try out the different types of houses, since reset I moved only 3 times, I got an apartment in Aranna, then I moved to a cave house with animal pen in Kajuu and now I live in a 50k house in Salatu.

I think that there is also a relationship between the houses and the skill tree, for example I have AK7, gardening 5 and croppery 3, so it makes much more sense to stay in a house with crop garden, trees and animal pen. With teleportation and the subway, it's pretty easy to travel anywhere, so I don't care much about the location.

I miss leaving drinks in the table and flowers on the carpet as I used to do in a swamp house, but I'm excited about the upcoming customizations.

  • I guess I missed this (from official blog) but...great news for the future!:

"A bit further down the road we’ll be making it possible to completely customize your house (from furnishings and wallpaper to shelving and lights). Depending on the house’s basic plan, you may also be able to upgrade and expand, adding rooms or new floors. And all the land-development features coming up for the group locations will also apply to your back yard."

  • I would love it if we could customize our growing options a bit too.  I would definitely pay some currants to be able to grow herbs at my cottage.  :)

  • Maybe I'm just the opposite of wanderlusty but I bought my 15k house in the Meadows at level eleven and never considered going back to the mansion I had in beta. :P I'm now level forty I think, so yeah. xD Been living here a while.

  • During beta, I moved three times. From an artsy cottage in Groddle to an artsy cottage in Bortola to a 50k mansion in Salatu.

Since 5 or 6 hours after the first post-reset test (not sure what level I was, perhaps 5-8), I've owned an artsy cottage in Bortola again. I love the look of the area and the house. I liked the space of the mansion, but it never compared as well as the cottage for me.

One of the large features I look forward to most is the customization (more the building/yard additions rather than decor) so that I can hopefully make my cottage home just perfect in every way.

Guess I'm not too wanderlusty. I tend to get settled and feel loathe to move after. When I feel like wandering, I just wander the world, then I have my one stable little place in the world to come back to at the end of the day. Besides the headache of bagging up everything to move at this point. lol

  • Me!  I move all the time.  I have gone from tallish crest to a 50K'er in sakinalu shreds to doon way to toma traverse since reset.  I do love the bog house design, so I will probably* stay put for now.

    *hah!

  • I lived in an an apartment, then a game cottage in the Meadow, and then a 50k Alakol house during beta. So far since launch I lived in a 7.5k firebog house for a while until I got tired of herbs, and then moved to a 4k cave house in the Heights. It's great having a dark patch AND two regular patches. :) I barely know cooking so I need eggs way more than I need a bunch of animals or crops. I have plenty of money for another 50k house, but they'll still be pretty boring until customization happens.

That said, if anyone needs help moving, you can hit me up and dump stuff at my place! I'm trustworthy I promise, but if you put food on the floor in the cave, my piggies might not be so respectful. ;)

  • I have one of the small cabins right now in Groddle Meadow.  I'd love to get something a bit bigger but can't seem to find anything I like.  I do like the bog houses but I don't want to grow herbs just yet.  Why not the ability to decide what you grow?  Doesn't make sense to lock someone down like that...    Anyway.  I'm looking forward to the stuff the Dev's have planned so we can see some custom work with our homes.  I have the faith so I'm basically just waiting it out.

  • I, too, own a 15K home in Groddle Meadow since the beginning of the game. It is getting crowded in my yard and while I can perfectly afford a 50K house in Alakol or Salatu, they just seem a teeny bit sterile for me. I imagine that once the customisations kick in there will be a rush for those upper-end houses, however, so maybe I should move sooner than later.

  • I would love to move to a mansion, but they have less patches then a cottage!

yes, they have more crop, but I preffer trees by far!

    I would love a mansion with 10 patches :D

  • Had a 10k cave in Andra sold it and bought another. For me being farter north (ancestral path) and on the train street as close to the entrance to my house is the big thing. I like all the housing but honestly I dont need all that much space so location is a big deal and having pen ( roaming pigs do get annoying). I dont really feel a need to move as more space really wont help and I basically just want to customize what I have.
Posted 14 months ago by Master E Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you're really using trees you have to get out into the world to take advantage of them.  One more patch more or less is no big deal.  I had to move to get those 28 plots and a pen.  I like the looks of the white houses too, all vodka-ad, bluff-over-the-sea.   All the cottage designs were way too garish for my taste.   The extra space for stuff is a bonus - I can now sort musicblocks on the living room floor until I get enough of a type to donate with powder.

I just wish my Glitch could actually kick back in his lounge chair.

  • I hope the customizations include the ability to add patches.(so you can have each type of tree) including adding a dark patch..I think its ridiculous to lock someone into a specific crop or trees or such..should bewhat oyu want to grow..
One thing id really love is the ability to buy patches to have in front of your house..The ig mansions dont seem to have any trees of any kind on their streets so piggies and such cant get food growing wild..Not to mention it makes the streets pretty dull and boring with no trees to harvest..Id love to be able to have a few trees of my choosing in the front yard and not just the back...maybe 3 per house for the front???

  • I realize that the herbs only grow in the hot, marshy areas, but HOW COOL would it be for a more expensive house farther north to have a greenhouse or something in the backyard for herbs? Or maybe some um...hydroponic herb setups in the basement. Just saying. :D

  • I'm proud that I am able to post that I am still in the same house that I was in two days ago when I first posted in the thread.  This may be a record, folks.  I think I'm home.

I will love it, however, if it becomes possible to 'redesign' out the Pacman and Ms. Pacman in my living room at some time in the future.  For now I've stuck a Fuelmaker and Blockmaker in front of them and am trying to ignore them.   I love my 15K Groddle Meadow house, but would like a different 'wallpaper' for the background.
