Street Ideas

There should be "dropped" and "placed" on the street for machines (feeders, collectors, stills, sticks, icons, etc).  Dropped means other people can take them, Placed means they are locked to the street.

In addition, there could also be an option that can be selected that placed machines can be either just be used by friends or by the general public.

Trees should not be able to be poisoned by anyone but the street owner and animals not be able to be taken or renamed by anyone but the owner.  Of course they can be harvested by others. :)

  • Stoot said you should think of housing streets as public streets that you have some control over. You should just use the feeders and collectors in your house. As for the thing about anyone poisoning trees, since they should be treated as a public place with some control over, you should just leave them be. You'll save tons of money (or herbs) on not buying or making tree poison. And even if you don't get the spice plant or gas plant you wanted, a bunch of beans is better than spending so much on tree poison that you will never get more than what you'll ever spend on poisoning and replanting trees than you will ever make from a single tree's lifespan. And you can't prevent people from cutting down your trees IRL either, even though 99 percent of pople don't see an importance in doing that. If you're complaining about you don't have as much control over your housing street as you wanted, there's a completely private street one stop away.
As for the thing about dropping stills, sticks, and ideas, I like that idea.

  • I like the idea of having public collectors and feeders. They can't take them, but the public can use them.  I think that makes our streets more social, like the why rocks can be mined and trees harvested.

  • Additionally, the devs are looking for our ideas and how we might like to use our streets.  Nothing is set in stone yet.

I'm not sure what you are talking about in regards to trees and poison.  I was clear that I didn't think other people should be able to poison the streets on a street not their own.  The owner can, of course, change up their trees as they'd like.  There are completely public street for those who like to go around screwing around with the trees on a street.  But for our own street, where shouldn't be that kind of poisoning allowed.  Let the street owner's decide what decor the street should have without griefers messing about with it.

  • I think the "dropped" vs. "placed" distinction for items in our homes and home streets is a great description of the distinction we need. There's individual items that work like either one right now (or change based on whether they're in a public or private location), and it's hard to know which is which. Having a really clear, consistent linguistic difference would help a lot. And the ability to choose.

I have heard that items placed while in "decorate" mode can't be picked up by other people, but ones dropped normally can, but haven't tested it with a friend yet. Seems like a natural distinction, and a consistent verbal distinction would be great.
