Can't meditate

For some reason I am unable to mediate at all today. Ah ... meditation.
Whoops. There it goes. That was relaxing. +0 mood, +0 energy, +0 xpEven with Bubble Tea I am having this problem. I have Meditation III and the calendar shows that I have gained 0 energy today with meditation. I still have 1575/1575 remaining...Anyone else having a problem?

  • We've seen a couple new reports of this happening, and we're looking into it.

    Thanks!

  • I had this same bug where I cannot meditate at all, but it also happens occasionally where I lose concentration immediately for no reason.

When one starts meditating, there should be 1 second where the meditation cannot be interrupted.

  • I've had this happen twice now. Once yesterday. Once today. Strangely enough, it won't work for either regular or focused meditation, but when you try again later it works again. It's done it to me both on Bubble Tea & off it.

  • This happens to me all the time. The longest I've ever been able to meditate was 5 seconds, and that only happened once. Most drop out within a second or two.

  • I've also been having the same problem as Jagotka since yesterday.

  • I've been having the same problem today. Can't meditate at all, although I do get experience points each time. Tried to relog in and out but did not work.

  • This happened to me yesterday but was fixable with a relog.

  • Happened to me today, twice (on bubble tea).

  • It seems to be unpredictable. I have the "WHONK!" meditation fail for no apparent reason about every tenth time I give it a go.

  • I've been wondering if some of it might not be associated with the dicing that's been going on amongst bored upper level players. I definitely noticed the failure immediately before I encountered a player spawned rook event on Buckward Vale, in Groddle Meadows yesterday... (which, coupled with a fictional interruption in mental powers by the forces of the "dark lord" in many fantasy books - WOT for instance - is why I'm making the unsubstantiated connection between the two)

  • Woochi's comment regarding dicing caught my attention--back in the earlier days of World of Warcraft, there were player-run "casino events" where groups of players used the game's built-in "diceroll" generator to simulate dice games. They were soon banned after the devs discovered that these dice games would inevitably create enormous lag issues, even server crashes, because the server was being constantly prompted to create random numbers, tying up its resources in an accumulating fashion.

I cheerfully admit that I'm not terribly knowledgeable about how MMO games work on the back-end, so I realise there may be absolutely no connection whatsoever. And its possible the current generation of server hardware is capable of more efficient resource handling than servers from 6 years ago, but all the same, because I remember the sort of chaos that could be created during those games, or even during proper in-game world events (chaos that could manifest itself in all manner of ways across the entire server), I respectfully posit that Woochi's ponderings might actually be something the Glitch team would be wise to keep an eye on.

(Crikey I know how pompous that might sound, but I couldn't think of a better way to phrase it. I realise full well you folks are the professionals and I'm just a general-class creative misfit, so I could be totally off-base with these concerns and/or it's something that you folks have been already monitoring from the get-go. No disrespect or slight to your collective abilities was intended. In fact, I gotta say I'm impressed as Hell so far with the work being done with Glitch. My hat's off to y'all, for certain!)

  • Can't be dice rolling in my case. I was trying to meditate while all alone in my house.

  • Hmmm. Well, maybe there was a shipment of defective Focusing Spheres that wound up being distributed into the general market by mistake (I blame...*cue ominous music* The Rube!), and some folks simply have had the bad luck of purchasing them. Because I myself haven't been having any difficulty at all, fwiw. >.>

  • @Lorelei, ok, but what was happening elsewhere? Do you have rook alerts open all the time to see any relationship? That's my point. If the devs have programmed in some negative element associated with rook events (and I'm not so sure they wouldn't, as a global "mediator"), then your in-house meditation might very well be adversely affected by someone playing giant down the street or somewhere else within its effective range. It's not the only time I've observed complete failure (forcing a reload) in meditation when a rook event happens. Of course, it could just be another aspect of the meditation bug, idk. it's just a vague theory so far with little to back it up statistically, something for other players (and myself) to confirm or deny

  • I don't recall any correlation between any rook attacks in Ur and meditation failure. but I may not have had the Rook Alerts group chat open at that moment.

Also used to be able to meditate on the subway, but this seems to have been stomped. Constant failure.

  • I'm also having some issues with meditation ending before it's had a chance to do anything....

  • Odd about the subway @Lorelei. I went out to check for myself, and sure enough, I can still meditate on the train just fine, as recently as last night.
