  • Heh.  I just made a quick post about Camera Mode.  I'm totally going after Snapshotting for the blog.

  • I love the name "eyeballery"!  It makes me literally "LOL".

  • Eyeballery should make it easier find what you are looking for. :)

  • I find it quite hard to see in my mind what a screen would look like when you 'eyeball' it...is that much of the screen hidden?

  • Shine, you can use a mini version right now. Just hit C and use mouse or movement keys. Eyeballery (if I understand correctly) will allow you to do the whole street.

  • @Shine, I believe the skill removes everything from the forward view, only leaving the landscape behind. It makes sense when you consider that Snapshotting, or photography, is learned after it. Remove distractions and you're left with a beautiful landscape to take pictures of!

  • Oooh. In that case, i'll be going for pictures of my favorite cliffs. I love any screen where you can jump down a mile ;)

  • Anyone know if it still shows rocks and so could be used to speed up mining?
Posted 15 months ago by Hameigh Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Hameigh
I just finished it. the scrolling when in camera mode seems a bit slow, but it's still very useful.
While you're mining, you can still look around. Being able to look around while working definately saved me time from running around the level. Great skill!!

  • I'm learning eyeballery right now, I can't wait to try it out!

  • Ok so Eyeballing is effectively just the ability to check out the entire street without moving? No extra's? What about the "With eyeballery, you gain the ability to see around corners, up ladders, and through walls" in the skill description?

  • "With eyeballery, you gain the ability to see around corners, up ladders, and through walls" is just another way of saying you can look at the whole street without moving.  Granted, I don't have the skill, but I'd be surprised if it meant anything more than that.

  • Love it. Think how useful that'll be for wandering the Ancestral Lands--you won't have to walk the whole street to check if the traps are up! :D
Posted 15 months ago by Arii Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Except that sometimes the traps come up while you are walking the street. This happened to me the other day. I walked past a trap and just as it was scrolling off the screen I noticed the blue question mark pop up out of the corner of my eye.

  • These sound pretty cool, but I don't think they're for me. Whew! Now I don't have to add other things to my long list of things to learn... yet...

  • I know there's probably a certain type of Glitchen who needs help taking screenshots but the screen shotting skill kinda surprises me. Or am I missing something that makes this super useful?

    For anyone on a MAC:
Hold Shift+Command and press 4 to get a cross-hair that you can use to draw a box around what you want a screenshot of. It'll save to the desktop. Or after you have the crosshair, press space then click on the window to get a screenshot of the entire window.

  • And on Windows you can use your print screen button to copy the screen to your clipboard or use the 'Snipping Tool' in your accessories to draw a box around what you want to copy.

  • DTC/Cross - but with any screenshotting technique, you would have to have your avatar front and centre, as that's the way the game appears... but with the combined skills of Snapshotting and Eyeballing, that's no longer the case. The result = even more awesome pictureness!
Posted 15 months ago by annapeee Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @annapeee, but why would I want to take pictures of anything BUT my awesome glitchy self? ;)

But in seriousness, I guess I can see the use for bloggers etc. I've peered into my meditative orb and I predict someone will make a version of the Sartorialist based within Ur. Calling it now!

  • These new skills sound really neat.  I'm looking forward to trying them out!

Now, if we could frame a snapshot and hang it to decorate our houses, I'd be a very happy Glitch. :D

  • What annapee said: photos are usually lame when the subject is dead center (a useful tip for real life photogs). And, unlike print screen, etc., this removes all the UI and gives you a clear view to the viewport underneath.

But, (i) this version of the camera is just a starting point: there is a lot more we can do, since we can tell what's *in* the photo as well; and (ii) never minding the camera part, being able to see all around a location is super handy.

  • 1. Why can't I use the camera view inside my house? I'd like to take nice pictures there.

    2. Why is the camera movement so slow? It's not that the camera couldn't move faster than my avatar. Maybe this is good for snapshots, but not for Eyeballery, which I want to use to see what's further away without having to walk or jump there.

  • @Stoot. Am I smelling some form of Pokemon Snap style quests?! I SURE HOPE SO.
