I Humbly Request A Blighted Famine or Two or Three!

I believe a random produce blight would add an element of chaos and fuel a feeling of urgency. Those that have a mighty surplus may find ample opportunities to give or to profit. Those that have not prepared may be left up guano creek without a paddle.

  • that will make everyone hoard and/or profiteer.  might be fun.

*runs off to hoard 300k worth of everything*

  • I would be for this as long as the blight is brought on by a plague of locusts.

  • How would you make the famine work for new players?  Newbies barely scrape by their first few days.

  • Hmm.   Natural disasters in Glitch.   Your crops might be randomly visited by locusts.   You might get mugged on the subway and wind up missing a bag.    You could be bitten by a fox (someday) and develop gangrene.   A random cave-in could trap you in the mines, requiring a search and rescue expedition by your friends.    Your house could be infested with termites and require new beams &tc.   Trees could become seasonal producers - (how long might seasons last?)   Aliens might abduct you and carry you away to... who knows where.    Heck, even the hangover debuff could cause you to wake up somewhere random.    Interesting....

  • Elf: Run like the wind.

Otto: I was thinking more like the great potato famine brought on by the potato blight, but locusts has a certain biblical appeal.

Lucille: The more seasoned players could swoop in and save the day? Or if they have not reached out to the community they would be left to their own devices.

    Walruz: Yes... you got!

  • It might also put "theft" in a new light.

  • Carl: or give reason to prevent "theft"

  • Could apply to cropbeds if you fail to rotate them sufficiently; ie, can't plant potatoes continuously; can't plant tomatoes immediately following potatoes; bonus yields if you rotate carrots following tomatoes, etc.

  • Crash: Great idea, just like in real life farming. Corn and soybeans!

  • Or what about a tornado season? A few game days a year where some are affected and parts of their homes and cultivations get turned back into projects! I love the mugging idea. it would surely add a little fear into the game!

  • I can't back up mugging, but a tornado is cool.

  • Tibbi: Why is it silly?

  • Merth, I didn't recommend mugging.  I was referring to something else that already happens in the game.  Also, the Juju bandits already do that.

  • A subway mugger that works like the Juju bandits might be cool though!

  • @revlightbringer: Thank you!
It had crossed my mind during my actual gardening, where I thought to myself, damn, planted potatoes; can't plant anything there for three more seasons.
(FWIW: potatoes are quite soil depleting, and can interfere with other crops, particularly other members of the nightshade family, like tomatoes and eggplants).
