Sources of rare items

I have got this so far:

Yeti-Alpha testers
Senor Fun Pickle-Beta testers
GNG-Beta Pickle (received randomly after playing with it for a while)
Dusty Stick-2012 Housing Bug (lost items)
P. Dolls- Rubes
Plate of beans- A group of Metafiler made a joke, and Eric Costello (dev) created it for them
Musicblock SB1- From devs
Musicblock T1-  Unknown
Recently Added: Star: Staff Only

So the 2 music blocks are my concerns.

  • I also heard for Plate of Beans was a joke on Metafiler, so a Glitch Dev who used Metafiler created it for joke? Is that right?

  • I concur that dolls are from Rube

  • Okay, I got that clarified, editing the description.

  • Ask Simplin as he has both the beans and sb1 and may be able to tell you the back story.

There is also that little star thingy which I think is only staff owned: http://lem.to/p/nyRK

I would love the know what it does.

  • The GNG is not from a beta pickle randomly. You would have to have gotten all the actions on a beta pickle (sneezing, moonwalk, TP, screech/lights out, and a few more I think) to have gotten the GNG. Pickles were put in all original beta tester's inventory the first time they logged in after September 14, 2011. Philosopher dolls are from the Rube, a random rare trade. Plate of Beans were created as an inside joke by a staff that worked for Metafilter before, and given to that group. There's a blog post about it on another site about what it does, but I don't have the link. Dusty Sticks were compensation from the Great Item Loss of 2012. SB-1 is given as a special treat by devs. T-1 is technically a non-existent item, like the numerous other 'non-existent' dev-only items.

  • Ah just an odd choice of word to me then.

There's also supposedly an infinitesimally small chance of getting an SB-1 as a drop.  I know of one player that believes he received one that way.
Posted 5 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Who would want to drop that? Wow
Posted 5 months ago by GOĐ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thank you very much Palindrome, so T-1 is fake? Or a Dev owned?

And I never seen that star thing, looks like from Mario
Posted 5 months ago by GOĐ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I was told by the bossman himself that the sb-1 does not come from any drop.  So yes, it would have to be a gift.

  • So does T1 exist
Posted 5 months ago by GOĐ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • How many Dusty Sticks, Beta Pickles, and Yetis currently exist (about)
Posted 5 months ago by GOĐ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have no idea.  The dusty sticks would be rarer than the pickles as every beta player at that particular time was given one.  The dusty sticks were only issued to players affected/on-line at the time of the 'great loss of 2012' and the yeti I'm really not sure.  It depends if there were more or less players who got a yeti than were on-line at the time of the great loss.  *confused..I am*  (grabs on to her dusty stick and runs....................)
Posted 5 months ago by ~Arabesque~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So is there less of yeti of dusty sticks?
Posted 5 months ago by GOĐ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think the only people who could answer that would be the devs or possibly UXroot? The glitch remote guy.  I'm not sure if he's able to pull out that kind of info.

  • 2 Questions: 1. What is more rare Yeti or Dusty Stick (fewer number). 2. Um I forget, lemme think, for now answer question 1
Posted 5 months ago by GOĐ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I would think Dusty Sticks are more rare.  Yetis were presents for all alpha testers at the time but the sticks only for those who lost many items in the Great Loss Disaster.

I think the Loss was noticed quite quickly so not that many people (relatively) were affected possibly.
Posted 5 months ago by Cassandria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But there weren't many alphas either, besides most alphas were either deleted, or deleted their account, or stopped playing
Posted 5 months ago by GOĐ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think the Yeti's were not gifts, There was a test during Alpha that granted the Yeti.
Posted 5 months ago by Djoe6897 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ok yes, point taken.  I guess there may be more alphas than it seems though, I still have lots on my friends list who are playing (though "lots" is also relative I guess!)

It is hard to tell now, since the Friends page is re-arranged, and it is true that many of those people are gone.  In that case I couldn't guess which group is larger.

(Edited to say that this is a post by Cassandria - forgot I had changed over!)

  • Dusty Sticks sell for around4 million. One or two or month  that I know of

I know of one Yeti being sold and that was 12 million plus tons and tons and tons of stuff.

So I'd say there are fewer Yeti's in circulation than Dusty Sticks

  • Justin has a standing offer in a thread he (at least used to) regularly bump offering a large payment for anyone who plays the T1 for him -- he has never had any takers.

Not too shocked on the SB-1 thing -- that friend knows a few TSers personally from before TS existed and was chatting with the personal playtime alt of a player support staffer at the time.  From personal experience, I know that when staff give you an item using their magical dev powers, it just appears, sort of like a drop, rather than arriving by frog mail.

  • Those Dusty Sticks are a bit unfair in my eyes... I didn't receive one because I didn't lose stuff??? (maybe I did, but just forgot about that lost item)
Posted 5 months ago by Rutger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • On 12/29/10 you would get a quest to say "yay" in local chat box to get a present. Which has it inside. And link to forum Saucelah? And I agree IrenicRhonda

  • Hm. I had a dev suggest to me, in game, that SB-1 as a drop was possible, but NOT in the region I was in at the time (Shimla Mirch).

Maybe my leg was being stretched.

  • Rutger
we did not just lose one item is was bags and bads of stuff.  I think you may have noticed that :)
Posted 5 months ago by Misha Subscriber! | Permalink
  • you also didn't need to have reported missing tems, the Devs were aware of those effected and once resolved sent out the sticks to All who lost stuff, whether they noticed or logged on themselves, so it was fair and above board.

  • There were once two bacon items which are assumed to be long gone, but if you manage to find one, then those would definitely be the rarest of them all... [Bacon 1] and [Bacon 2]

  • Misha wrote: Rutger: we did not just lose one item is was bags and bads of stuff.  I think you may have noticed that :)

I know, but it wasn't a Glitch who made the stuff got lost... it was TS (supposedly some bug in their transition script).

Example: normally in games ... when people report bugs, they get a reward... like currants... not something what people can't get/archive in any other way then getting "hit" by the bug in TS their system.
Posted 5 months ago by Rutger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • What about Glitch is "normal" exactly, Rutger?

It was an apology item, hardly unfair.
Posted 5 months ago by Cristy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Cristy: What is worth millions of currants.... and can be recharged to reuse...

Look.. I'm just saying that they could have given the people who got "hit" something what is easily obtainable by others, that's all....
Posted 5 months ago by Rutger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think TS has made it pretty clear that they disagree with that assessment, and I expect that they will do the same again in the future if a similar type of situation comes about that affects a large number of people.

I guess what I'm getting at is like it or not, it is how this game is.  There are a number of items that there is nothing anyone can do to obtain via the game itself.  The objection has been heard, noted, countered, and laid to rest.

And I personally think "fairness" is bland and boring, and games that design with fairness in mind are also bland and boring.

  • Personaly I don't like when there is a item in a game that you could have done nothing to get. With the yeti you could have help tested in alpha, with the dolls you can get them from rube (it's rare but possible), I guess you get the music blocks if the devs like you or somthing but the dusty stick you could only get if you happened to bump into a certain bug you couldn't trigger on your own.

  • I (UXRoot/GlitchRemote) don't have that kind of information. there is a way to check the inventory of the logged in player, but that would be locally in your browser. so for GR that means, only each player have access to that information, not me or my servers
Posted 5 months ago by UXRoot Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I can't believe no one has mentioned Glitch spam.  Although granted, that stuff only exists in your mailbox.
Posted 5 months ago by Nanookie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Saucelah: I completely agree with you, believe it or not, after my complains.

But the Dusty Stick is something what (like what köô┘αròô says) can not be triggered by yourself.

But I don't really care about it... it would have been fun to have one as a "trophy" though...
Posted 5 months ago by Rutger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The Dusty Stick was a kind and generous thing that TS did for those that suffered thru an inadvertent "Glitch" wherein you lost almost all your stuff and tho they worked hard and long it was a difficult time.  No one who lost stuff really expected a gift like the Dusty Stick but it sure made it less of an unpleasant experience and a delightful surprise.  Using the "Stick" gives you a treat to watch the little dust bunny fly around and you are left with a fiber as your "gift". (which truly does look like dust fluff)
Posted 5 months ago by AlmostSilver Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It never ceases to amaze me that whenever Dusty Sticks are discussed people say it was a gift to compensate for losing all or almost all of one's stuff. Period. Never do people bother to mention that they also got all or almost all of that stuff back in addition to the Dusty Stick. That no one else had the opportunity to get. Because they were not afflicted with the right bug. If they're going to apologize for one bug, why not another? Justify and rationalize all you want. Doesn't make it right.

  • I'm pretty sure I read that stuff like saved notes and such weren't able to be retreived.

Regardless, it never ceases to amaze ME how absolutely jealous and entitled people can sound about this.

  • Regardless of who received a Dusty Stick, it's their rarity that makes them such collectibles. If anyone could get one, none of us would be discussing it right now. When last did anyone offer to pay a fortune for a Faded Heart?

  • I'm seem to remember that stoot once said there was a way to acquire an SB-1. But it wasn't just a rare random drop in the way a doll is a rare random offering from the Rube. Rather there was some combination of actions or activities that were extremely unlikely to be performed that would trigger the drop. Then again, I may be remembering wrong!

A LH guide told me something very similar, and that they had been told this by a dev. They also said that it was something a completely new player could do, so it does not require high level skills

All very 'he said, she said' anecdotal hearsay, but it seems to be widely believed
