Volunteering

Stoot said in an earlier topic: "The help channel in its current incarnation does not have much longer to live: instead, new players will be offered a "live help" option and connected to devs or volunteers for actual question asking."

... Well, I think I would definitely be willing to help out by answering questions and helping out n00bs, as a volunteer for Tiny Speck in my spare time.

Who's with me?

  • I wouldn't be surprised if it's an option that you check off that sets you as a helper/ Who knows how it will be implemented, though.

  • I really enjoyed being a mentor in Second Life - I was sorry when they did away with it. I'd love to do something like that here.

  • I'd love to do it. I've already got some experience in it, too.

  • I'm in also. I'm looking forward to this since it will be easier to answer questions when they're not mixed up with social and project chatter. Not that I don't love everyone in the current help channel!

  • Agreed Amy--I wish there was both, a help channel and a global chat channel.

  • It's great that you help us new players, mind I dont like asking for help without trying to find out first myself. But that Beauocrat place has done my head in, once I got the card I couldn't think for the life of me how to use it for the lesson. Much appreciated the help :)

  • There should be a good way to transfer someone to another helper, in case you can't help.
Posted 22 months ago by RobotGymnast Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'd be glad to help as much as I can. Even if I still have a lot to learn (I vaguely know how to get salt though). :D

  • I assume volunteers would get Admin Priveledges, to help a player if they get stuck etc.. No wait, a dev would help with that... we'd answer game-play related questions, and report (or hand over what sounds like) bugs, to devs?

Sounds like a great opportunity to help Tiny Speck and their road to success :)

  • as a talented know-it-all who loves telling regularly telling people what to do, I would be happy to help in any capacity.

  • Thank you all so much! This is very, very appreciated. We'll let you know when we've figure out more of the particulars.

We'll also trying to design a way that every single person entering Glitch for the first time gets greeted by a real person (again, whether a dev or volunteer). The way we're thinking it'll work is: interested parties are given a Greeter Badge, which will, when the inclination strikes, teleport the bearer to an open greeting location. The badge item would have several other verbs which would do things like magically stock the Greeter with a variety of gifts to give to the newbies, reset the Greeting location to its pristine state, and so on.

  • I'm on board. I think it would be nice if someone with the prestige of Greeter also received a free month of play (giving a credit for the $5/month charge for extras) for the month they act as greeter. You could allow for some kind of lottery and the volunteers could opt in or choose to go about their business. Just a thought.

  • Well, noob as i am, i still love helping. Being accessible by chat, i almost always have time to help. But count me out for greeting very much. Dunno if you'll have both options, but if you do, I'm down! ...oops disregard if this idea is dead

  • One other thing I think the greeting badge should do is spawn you a teleportation script leading back to the street you were pulled from. It might get annoying after awhile to have to keep using energy to go back to doing what you were doing
Posted 16 months ago by Johnny Triangles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's a great idea. A suggestion..
Have a pop-up that says your greeter is xyz, to chat click on the box in the lower right corner. That is the hardest part when I've tried to help. Plus lots of juice to keep mood up. Oh..I'd like to volunteer if you go with player greeters.
Posted 16 months ago by Cindy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • We already have greeters, actually!  This is a very old thread.  :)  When you start the game, you are given the option to speak to a greeter, who appears on your street and answers any questions you might have.
Posted 16 months ago by glum pudding Subscriber! | Permalink
  • They have a Greeters program now. Last I knew it was officially full (for now). Jade is in charge of it. But... this does not keep people from coming over to the Live Help channel to help out. Some things only the devs or Greeters can do, but every little bit counts. The game is so large and in development that sometimes there are changes that even the developers in the channel aren't aware of fixes or additions or, if they do, not aware of their status. I found myself explaining a keyboard feature to a player not too long ago to a player that @kevbob wasn't even aware was already functional or in the online FAQ.
