A massive pile of Poo

So how do you collect your Guano?

In the past I've used hard bubbles, as they equate 1 bubble to one poo - loads easier to jump click on the batterflies and get your guano fast. But is there a better way?

How do you get yours?

  • I pick up other people's guano. :)

  • I gather dropped Guano in the off hours.  I once got 45 FREE Guano in the Deeps.  I have not fed a Batterfly in months.  I have never taken anyone else's guano but I have seen harvesters knee deep in it - Lol!

  • I generally use meat and I give 5 to get 2 guano. I may try hard bubbles. It annoys me that to get the maximum of 3 guano, I have to double to 10 meat. If I'm low on meat and too cheap to buy, I will make eggy scramble or something similar.

  • I use Older Spice.  One OS = one guano.  It is easy and convenient for me since spice is not hard to gather and OS easily made.

  • and at this juncture I'd like to remind all those guano enthusiasts in their bat poop glee to not forget to clear those weeds and replant after partaking in their fellow glitchen's yellow goodness : ) ;)

  • What Jolycan said - older spice, and with the "default is "one"" preference turned on. Batterflies fly by me, I jam on the enter button until they escape.

  • Whatever I'm feeding them, I find it's actually way easier to collect guano with the mouse instead of the keyboard.
    * You can click the batterfly as it passes over your head, saving you a jump
    * If you're feeding them in "just one" amounts, it's really easy to do exactly that, instead of accidentally feeding them an entire stack when you're trying to key it in with the keyboard fifty times in a row
    * Clicking the guano on the ground will move it to your bags automagically (although I can't remember - this might be something you have to enable in your preference settings)

    I always have felt that guano collection was an unrewarding and tedious task, but it's a lot less annoying this way. Try it!

  • Arabesque, that's a joke, right?

  • Wintera: But if you find a spot where the batterfly's circuit takes them just past you, if you hit enter when they light up, they'll hang out there and you just keep hitting enter. It defaults to "just one" and you don't have to click anything except the enter key. Keep your mouse cursor at the bottom of your screen, and just hit enter. I don't jump, I just wait for them to come by, and start slamming on enter until they escape, and then a few seconds later they'll wander by again.

    Like I said in another post, I got 437 guano in 15 minutes doing this.

  • I usually just wander and pick up the random batterfly poo. When purposely feeding them, I used to drag my planks to the batterfly, let it fly near and then feed and pick up the poo. Since I'm going to need to be stockpiling as PM 3 wraps up, I will probably try Aliera's method for my purposeful gathering this time!

  • Little Miss Giggles: Don't forget to go into preferences and make sure you're defaulting to "just one" and make sure your mouse cursor is out of the way, lest you feed them 200 older spice at once! :)

  • Definitely! Thanks for the tips!

  • I usually just feed them eggs and meats.  5 meats or 10 eggs = 2 guano, which works out to be pretty efficient, all things considered.  I just go and collect some stuff in surrounding areas for a couple minutes, and then head over to the caverns for a quick batterfly feeding. :)

  • I like feed batterflys Rich Tagines. 1 Rich Tagine = 3 Guano. It's easier for me not to have to pick a quantity. Plus, I think I get better quality guano for happier crops and herbs!

  • Thanks for the tip, Aliera.  I normally feed batterflies with items like planks and grain, which require more than one to get a guano in return. I'll have to look into the just-one food options for this and see if it makes things simpler!  Cheers!

  • I'm not getting the 'jabbing enter' effect. It usually goes to pick up the guano that's on the floor instead of the batterfly.
    Maybe I need to tweek my technique!

    I find the one item one guano approach really works though and would recommend it. No faffing around entering numbers of things..

  • I've always hated gathering guano but I will definitely try the Older spice option. Sounds like a great idea.

  • The reason so many people use meat - even tough meat is 5 = 2 guano and inconvenient when feeding - is because a good herd of biggies with feeders and collectors will yield over 600 meats a day using nothing but easily grown zucchinis or carrots.

  • I think planks are one of the best choice since they are quite easy to harvest and it's fast to gather 2-3 thousand planks. Then I would make sure that I would have only one row of food in the option box and the planks would be in the fourth box.
    This would make collection pretty easy since I would only have to
    1. click (select batterfly),
    2. click (select feed),
    3. click (select plank),
    4. type 10,
    5. enter and receive 2 guanos
    6. repeat

    and I wouldn't even have to move my cursor! The downside to this is that sometimes I would click too fast and select "feed all" or accidentally type 110 instead of 10.

  • I've never thought of the Older Spice either. I'm actually not one to even really consider using basic foods or spices in generally actually.  So far my methods require and over extravagant (and a bit excessive) harvest of food materials in which I cook for days until I have almost over 1000 pieces of food in which I will go to the Deeps or Caverns, there's one spot that I forget which it is in, and pretty much stuff the batterflies with the most delectable treats of Ur. And then I collect their precious Guano for hours. I enjoy the thrill of jumping around to try and catch the batterflies since in the end all the jumping goes towards the 111,111 jumps badge I still need to get.

    I'd like to say that I'm an odd enthusiast over Guano, so unless you're as crazy as me, I'm sure all other methods are probably more practical :D

  • I feed them meat. First step is to leave all my bags which contain food items at home (and that includes the spice rack). Then fill up with 1k meat (more than that gets really tedious). Then just use the keyboard. When the batterfly flies away, collect guano. And so on. And yes, I use meat because, although I do enjoy cooking, I really have no use for food nor donations right now, so batterflies get it.

  • i buy them.  i'm too lazy to feed batterflies...

  • Most people cringe when I say I feed the batterflies Messy Fry-ups and start hollering about 'waste'. Yes, it wears out my frying pan but I still need the kitchen tool repair badge.

    However, the recipe is very simple - 2 eggs, 1 butter, 1 meat, 1 potato. Collecting the eggs, meat, and potato.. well you spend equal-ish energy collecting anything to feed the batterflies. The ingredients total 33 energy, plus another 2 to make the butter, and 4 to cook (net usage of 39). I get 4 iMG for the cooking + a dish with an energy value of 52. Fed one at a time to a batterfly you get 2 guano. Instead of a dish few people want to buy with little value sold to a vendor I get 2 guano worth 80+ each.

    I've also been known to use Rubeweed, Rookswort, and Hairball because I have few uses for them but still like to see them growing and wind up with an excessive amount. Again, you receive 2 guano when fed to a batterfly one at a time. Gandlevery feeds 1-1 up to 3 at a time.

    Batterflies poo based on the energy value fed to them.
    You can mix and match to get to 15, but I'm lazy.
    15 = 1 guano
    50 = 2 guano
    100 = 3 guano

    For those having issues with 'enter' picking up the guano... slow down just a hair. Wait for the batterfly to have a blue halo again. It's fast, but not as fast as you might think you need to be. Once you get a feel for the timing, you can catch and feed the same batterfly repeatedly making guano harvesting go quickly.

  • I use eggs. 3 eggs is one guano. You can 8 guanos from a single tree.

  • Pickles or Plain Rice. They are both 1=1 in terms of feed unit/guano.  Except for a stretch where I had a ton of Hearty Omelets because I kept getting them from chickens I squeezed, so I'd use those and get 3 per omelet.

    I may try Old(er) Spice, I had heard that Nutmeg gave 1=1 but that hasn't ever worked for me. For a long time the wear and tear on my pot from making the food was helpful as I was working on the tinkering badge; now that I finally have it feeding spice sounds like an interesting option...
