I think it's wonderful that players in a beta test think that it's a good thing to be hit by a bug. It's a much better attitude than being upset and angry when they're hit by a bug.
It is, after all, Beta Testing, and the game is closed to people who don't want to be beta testers.
@Windborn That makes sense, but you also want players to want Glitch to end up being a bug free world, not one filled with bugs to get free items when affected by them.
Sludge, I kind of agree. It did not affect me, and I feel left out. Everyone around me has either the stick, or millions of currants that they got when they sold the stick. :(
I agree grace, I feel kind of left out too, but I try to remind myself that it's just a virtual item, and that I didn't lose anything that I care about, and that I trust TS not to selectively give out anything that gives a game advantage. Helps me keep things in perspective :)
@Sludge
The (mostly) bug-free world is for people who don't want to be testers. It's up to us testers to find all the bugs before they launch again, so that the people who don't like playing broken games don't have to.
Since players' attitudes about bugs don't have any impact at all on how many bugs there are in the software code, it doesn't matter whether they want a world "filled with bugs" or not. There will be the same number of bugs no matter how players feel about them.
Given that it's still in testing, I'm glad my fellow players have a good attitude rather than a bad one when bugs hit their character. If getting a unique item to compensate for losing irreplaceable items helps them feel better about continuing to play (and test) this not-yet-bug-free world I'm all for it.
How many of those complaining about some players getting a dustbunny stick,
would have been happier if TS had dealt with the problem by levelling the
playing field by wiping all inventories.
Yes I got a stick which was a pleasant surprise but getting most of my inventory restored was the greater prize.
Yeah-- as of today someone still hasnt got there pickle or doll back-- and i seen some players rather upset over losing hours and hours of hard work which was stored away nice and neat--- which yes. we are in beta, and yes, we can expect bugs, but i dont think anyone ever expected a bug that was that terrible, and i think it's a nice way of saying here, have this for the stress that's been caused, and i think by creating such a debate about this it's going to make more issues for TS to give away any special items away later to anyone, for any reason becase the stink this has caused. And i LOVE the fact that this game has special items that we can work towards getting.. so.. yea. that's my 2 cents.
@blackwidow The problem is that players didn't/couldn't work towards earning these items. Also I don't know why anyone who lost a pickle would be upset, many players are offering tons of pickles, dolls, and currants for sticks on the marketplace right now lol.
Sludge, just because you don't understand someone else's feelings does not make their feelings less important.
Just because you don't feel bad about it, does not mean that others of us don't feel bad for them.
I, for one, am glad that people who lost stuff that felt important to them, have something that helps them feel better about this nasty event.
If I lost my Funpickle, I would be extremely upset. It's the only rare item I have and it means somthing to me because it reminds me of how much fun I had in Beta I. I also happen to think it looks really cool.
@Innie Did you get one? Also it is not about that, because I said they should give them something to make up for it, just not something that unaffected players can never hope to get.
In the end, people who got one won't want others to have one, and ones that didn't will want everyone to have one.
No I did not get one, and I didnt lose my stuff either!!! Im fine with it the way it is. Big deal. Some people have dolls, some dont. Some have GNGs, some dont. Some have Yeti's, some dont.
Big deal. In the grand scheme of things, does it really matter?
So, essentially, you want them to have compensation, (like, perhaps currants, but not too many currants) instead of replacing one unique item with another?
This thread is really headed just the same place as the other ones, both closed and unclosed. People lost stuff. TS couldn't replace it with exactly the same unique thing, so they got a different unique thing instead.
Other people think they deserve to have one too, even though they didn't lose anything. And if they can't, they want the other people to not have a replacement.
Mean spirited to say the least. (If I can't have one, you shouldn't have one either).
I dont have anything and no one likes me. But I like it like that.
Trophies that cough up fiber could have been given out, then no one would be able to complain. It turns messy when you figure in the whole money thing with this item. If it was not giftable or able to be sold, no one would say a thing about it, and everyone would be happy (but me, because im only happy when I'm grumpy, go figure).
@Treesa Sorry about that, I just deleted it because I wanted this post to stop getting replies, and to be closed.Though I don't get how my replies are out of context since I said it turned into a debate lol.
Deleting the original post won't stop people from talking about what you said. In fact, it gives them more to talk about. And it doesn't get the topic closed.
Here's the original post by Sludge, for those who wish. (happened to have it open in another tab)
"I believe that Tiny Speck made a mistake by giving players affected by the bug an incredibly rare item. You could make the argument that they had to deal with the trauma of losing their items, but most players have gotten almost all of their items back. Also many players didn't even know that anything was missing, so they faced no trauma. I think a smarter decision would have been to give players who were affected a free month membership or some free credits, I doubt anyone would have complained about that. The stick is going for millions of currants right now, and I doubt anyone lost anything that valuable. Overall, the main issue is that now players want to be affected by bugs, in order to get very rare items.
What do you think about this issue?
Please leave a comment below stating if you got the stick, and your opinion on if the stick should be removed, given to everyone who was on at the time, or if nothing should change."
The more you try to control things, the less it will happen. Just making you look silly. Go with the flow, have fun. You unleashed the Sloth and got the Fox!
edit: elf, donuts are on me! it's roll-up-the-rim season in canada. I'll send you the one's I win via GIGPDS! That is, if that damn frog doesn't eat them...
