  • Oh dear :( Well, Millie used to be my neighbour and I knew her to be the sweetest and kindest of all, so I hope you manage to make it up to her and I'm sure she'll forgive you.

  • Hey moosa, welcome to the game! I'm sure Millie will forgive you, a lot of new players think the greeters are bots :)

  • Hi Moosa!
    Welcome to the game.
I think it is wonderful that you have come here to apologize.
I hope Millie gets to see this.

  • Did I have a greeter? lol

  • Maybe, Aero, maybe not. They're relatively new. I'm fairly certain I didn't have one, myself. But you and I both seem to be getting along well enough in the game so no harm, no foul. :)

  • Welcome to Glitch, Moosa.

Millie is a kind soul. Your very open admission and apology is humble and heart-felt.

As one of those "not-bots" I appreciate it and I believe she will as well.

  • That's nice of you, moosa, for apologising. Being a greeter, I know a nasty newbie can really make the rest of your day crap. I'm sure she'll appreciate this.

  • So everyone knows, I've forgiven Moosa and we're playing with the Ball in Plexus :)

  • Welcome to Glitch, not-poor Moosa!  We all love you anyway.  Even Millie, though you might get a Splanking and a Garlic Kiss ^_^

  • Can I just say I think this thread is completely awesome, and is a lovely embodiment of why Glitch is different from other games?

And let me raise a big ol' mug o' hooch to toast the beginning of a long friendship between Millie and Moosa!

  • Greeting started a little over three months ago, but only some of the time (if you started playing in the middle of the night, we were probably asleep and therefore didn't say hi).  Then we took a hiatus for a while, and now we're back with a vengeance, greeting throughout this entire last test.  It's optional, though, and I think we have to have the language in the tutorial changed, because TONS of new players assume that greeters are some form of artificial intelligence, and ignore us, say odd things to us, or question us extensively to make sure that we're real.  So moosa, you are not alone, and you're a sweetie for apologizing. :)

  • D'awww Moosa!

Millie was my greeter as well, and I was certainly a little bit astounded to see I was being introduced by an actual player as well. Millie was (slash is) super nice when I first met (slash still see) her (slash him [maybe]).

I can't help but ask: what must you have said to Millie to rouse such guilt?

  • Just remember Moosa you can stab someone with a knife and the wound will heal. All wounds heal with time, but it is a wise person that chooses not to use a knife and chooses to use words of kindness instead.(If you can't say something nice, say nothing at all) Life is full of lessons, and I believe you have learned one, I would be honored to be your friend. We have ALL had our feet in our mouths at one time or another, then we change feet, LOL!!!

  • Along similar lines, this conversation happened with me and a Level 2 player yesterday:

her: so everybody says they don't know what the point is to this game
me: well, think of it as a big sandbox, where you can create a whole world, limited only by your imagination.
    her: you just copied that
    me: copied what?
me: Jeez, I took the time to answer your question, forget it

I wouldn't have the patience for bratty people, but I admire people who do.

  • The circumstances that required this apology is regrettable, but the fact that OP took their time to apologise is something you rarely see in other games. Its just amazing and reminds me why I still play Glitch, the fact that its epic levels equals that of (oh I dunno..) Chuck Norris? and that it has such a wonderful community.

I believe its the anonymity of being online that creates hostile interactions, so I can see how OP acts like that, I don't endorse it but I can see why...

  • Widdershins, a ton of new players ask what the point of the game is, and seem reluctant to play if we can't boil it down to a sentence or two.  I encourage them to play for a bit and see for themselves, since once they leave the start streets they'll start to learn skills, be given quests, and so on, but some complain and argue so vehemently that it takes everything in me not to say, "Okay, you're right.  This game isn't for you."  To be fair, not everyone has a lot of intellectual curiosity, and they're used to games being labelled "first-person shooter" or "platformer" or the like, so Glitch stumps them.

  • Every greeter should have a on off option for a bubble over its head saying greeter.
Posted 17 months ago by Jellybelly Baby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Greeters are of two minds about this: some want to be identified, and some don't, partially because they get a lot of "waah, I want to be a greeter too!" from their friends.  Since we don't have much control over who becomes a greeter, it's making a lot of greeters feel pretty bad.  We've discussed bubbles, special items of clothing, etc., but since we only greet on start streets, it may be a moot point.

  • "but since we only greet on start streets, it may be a moot point. "

That explains one of the reasons I may not have been greeted. Once I moved out of the giant's brain I went off exploring rather quickly.

  • BarryW, we call people like you "runners." Sometimes we try to chase you, but if you get a good head start on us, well... you're on your own. Looks like you're doing just fine without your greet!
Posted 17 months ago by Lilith Subscriber! | Permalink
  • My Greeter was Jade. I saw the message about it and gave it a go out of curiosity. I'm probably one of your "runners" and could probably qualify as a greeter if I could juggle the time better.
Posted 17 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So -that's- why I didn't run into any "greeters"... I ran off too fast! Silly me.
