Please Critique my plan - fastest way to get into the house I want?

Hi!  I'm asking about the fastest/best way to stay alive and accumulate $ for a house purchase.

Shortly after the game comes back up, I'll be leaving town for three weeks - and between now and then I have to make a bunch of Robots - so I won't have time for leisurely play until, gosh, November.

I really really really want to buy a particular model of $8000 in the Meadow before I leave town.

So I'm thinking of living in the open and just nibbling pigs/eating cherries, while I learn/do um.. maybe mining and smelting?  and maybe harvesting Gas?  What to you think of this as a way to get my $8000 asap?

Thanks guys!!!

  • Mining always helped me get currants quick, but it really starts paying off when you have some of the mining skills already.

When do you leave? I will try to throw some currants and items your way to help out. I want an 8,500 model home, but I didn't really need one most of the time ( I only harvested what I needed and had at least 1 bigger bag of space), so I can wait a little while on mine and help you with yours :)

Oh sweetie!  What a wonderful offer!  I totally don't want to take other peeps money.  What a sweetie you are!

We leave on Oct 3rd, but I need to build and deliver about 15 (smallish) robots by then, and I don't usually work ANYWHERE NEAR that fast - so I need to be working pretty much around the clock.

Thanks for sharing how you lived early in the game.  I didn't realize that.  The only reason I want to go fast on the house is because I am really effected by my surroundings and the particular house that keeps me feeling cheerful is popular and hard to get.  (sound dumb?)

  • I am thinking of just drilling down better learning & mining while I smelt away until I have enough for my house (I only want the same one I had, a cheap $4000 model in the Meadow).  This should be doable, right?  Last couple of resets I didn't get a house until a long time after but there were fewer players then.

  • If it looks as if you won't make enough maybe get someone to buy it for you and sell it to you when you are ready?

I would be happy to do that, or lots of your friends would I imagine. :-)

@Cassandria - wow!  having friends rocks!  I'll keep that idea in my back pocket too - if I'm running out of time.

@g33kgurrl - did you see my bots?  Your AI class sounds exciting.  Congrats

  • IIRC, Salatu has a few caves that have egg plants and rocks scattered throughout. if you can't find rocks in those caves, they are close by. Salatu and Alakol have some rocky places. Good luck (and I will be sending you currants- you'll just have to deal with it)

  • I'm fairly confident the goal for the Glitch devs is to radically increase the number of house options as the game grows. As I understand it, (though someone who knows better than I do, please correct me if I'm mistaken), the potential for growth vs. what we've actually experienced in game is pretty huge - meaning, the idea will be that everyone who wants to buy a house should be able to.

Regardless of that, however, I've noticed that real estate turn over is pretty high. People are pretty regularly switching out homes. So even if everything in meadow is bought up (as it was frequently during beta), check at a different time of day and just buy buy buy when you find the one you like.

Hilariously, real estate flipping in Glitch is a pretty smart way to go. Yes, you can only get 80% of what you paid for your original house, but if you're auctioning items and selling stuff, what it does is gives you an 80% guaranteed capital when you need to sell.

Were I you, I wouldn't be terribly worried about getting the house you want. As the game changes, your goals will also change, and your housing needs as well. The real estate changes enough that you will be able to find the house you want for each stage of the game you're in.

  • Harvest everything in sight!  You will be able to start selling immediately.  As soon as you can learn mining and also get a shovel and dig peat.  Peat sells pretty well.  I bought my second house using a lot of currants made selling peat.

Note to @g33kguy...check out the robots link I posted on G+  Want. No. NEED!!!

  • You have to be careful with the auctions I find... downward market pressure means that sometimes people are selling for less than they'd get if they just sold them at a vendor. And the fees and uncertainty and time-lag all eat into the attractiveness of auctioning.

I suspect most of the market for peat was caused by street projects - and it'll be a while before we've got people up to levels where they can take part in those again.

I'd go for a lot of nibbling & harvesting. Buy a small house as soon as you can & stuff it full of pigs and harvesters so you've got ample incoming food.

It's sad but I actually had a dream about Glitch last night... I didn't realize The Reset was affecting me so much! I dreamt that for the final test the skill learning times were drastically reduced (and oddly, they currently are) and it became a frantic rush to keep the Rock busy learning things.

PS I'm intrigued by these robots. Want to see!
ETA: OK, seen! Haha - they're really cute!! Great work.

  • My goal is to start with a house on Tallish Crest. There are lots of metal rocks and sparkly nearby (ETA and a subway station). I'm also going to focus on my mining skills first, but I need to find a skill chart to plan how to get to make awesome stews as quickly as possible. ;)

I figure mining skills + awesome stew skills = mo' currants, mo' currants, mo' currants!
Posted 15 months ago by Tonya Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @TRC - i've got a whole skill progression list worked out to minimize total learning time by focusing on nabbing the mega long learning time skills early, before learning lots of "cheap" skills turns the mega long learning time skills into mega, mega, mega, mega, mega, mega, mega, mega long learning time skills.

there are a number of good ways to get to 8000c quickly, but i think mining is going to be the fastest. Mining IV is mega long and you want to nab it early before it becomes over-inflated [within your first 20 skills] .. You're also setting yourself up early to produce EHSP, which will further speed skill progression.

the good thing about not playing until november is that you can queue skills during that time if you have the setup. if you structure your skill progression efficiently, you might even return after a month to find you've learned every skill in the game [assuming you spend all the appropriate emblems before leaving]

@Tonya - Regarding Awesome Stew skills, they are a really bad choice for early currants. To make awesome stew efficiently, you need a garden and you also need animal kinship to get the meat .. and really you want Remote Herdkeeping to get it for almost free alongside your garden. That's a massive skill investment. You also need to cook a ton of recipes to get a ton of achievements first, which detracts from energy you could be spending donating to speed learning time. Also, by learning cooking first you have to learn all these super easy, super short cooking skills and each one ultimately increases your learning time for all other skills by 5% each. By the time you learn MCII and all the other skills needed to support it, you will have driven up the learning time for Teleportation 5, Tinkering 5, Mining 4, Gardening 5 and Better Learning 5 way, way up. ideally you learn TP5, Tnk5, Mn4, Grdn5 and Bl5 within your first 20 skills, before inflation begins. then inflation is only applied to skills that require little learning time to begin with [like the cooking skills], and so aren't a big deal even if their learning time is increased by 250% or more.

  • @Striatic - While I agree that it would be terrific to learn TP5, Tnk5, Mn4, Grdn5, and BL5 within your first 20 skills, I just don't see how it is possible. There are:
7 skills required before you can learn Gardening 5.
    5 skills req'd before Teleporting 5
4 skills each req'd before Tinkering 5 and Better Learning 5
    3 skills req'd before Mining 4

And of course this doesn't count the fact that you can't learn all of the top level skills simultaneously, so by the time you get to the last of these skills, you will have learned 28 skills.

  • Ok, my b-day is on October 1st, so I need 10k as gift to rescue my house LOL
just kidding... I think I'll try to finish as many quests as possible, since we can earn a great cash with that, the problem is that many quests involves buying tools and items, so maybe this plan won't work.

Mining costs too much energy/time on low levels, so Idk if I'll spend this money on energy later... Maybe having nice friends cooperating is the fastest way to do it.

  • Hi Thee

I would have thought it should be easy enough to earn 8k for your first house. You get currants for levelling early on and levelling goes fast. I noticed all the great tips above but I think it should be easily achievable as you know your goal. Don't forget to sell anything you are selling at the tool vendors. At least I think that is what they are. Those crocs with very tall tribal masks on.

There are also eggplants and rocks within easy reach of meadows, you wouldn't have to go as far as Salatu! I think metal rock/smelting is the best earner, but you need a fancy pick and smelter for that of course, and those cost some currants.

  • Tool vendors do indeed pay more than all other vendors. There are two (so far) in the world: in Cebarkul, Ix and Level 4 East, Ilmenskie Caverns.
Posted 15 months ago by Millie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, definately! Sell your rocks in those places, you will earn more.

Scraping barnicles earned me a ton of currants this time around, we will see how that goes when there are not street projects.

well you can't get them *exactly* within your first 20, but since BL doesn't count against the limit, you get it done *essentially* within the first 20, so much so that the 'post 20 inflation' is pretty much inconsequential.

this way you knock off the 4 skills with the longest learning times without any inflation occurring, and then the 5th longest to learn with the +3% only compounding twice.

  • LOL...um, actually Cebarkul is in Uralia...

Tool vendors purchase at 80%, most others purchase at 70% (though I think the Toy vendors are purchasing at only 60%).  Helga and Gardening TOOLs (there are two types of gardening vendors) vendors only purchase at 50%.  The Mining vendors purchase at pretty crappy rates too (and sell at outrageously high rates), but I don't remember if it was 60 or 50%.

I would say, don't expect to sell things like peat or barnies in the auctions for a while...people won't be doing many street projects right away, and even if they do, it will take a little while for the currants to build up so that folks have extras.  I suspect after a few days, things will be back to normal, but in the early hours of the game, the vendors will be the way to go for most sales, unless you are trying to make things for other players (such as food, etc), which will be in demand.

  • Hey Stri, for TPC's alternate skill queue, you are missing BL1...which is needed for TP1 and the followon BLs...however, if she wants to get a house, she needs to get BL1 and then BA1 to get her papers which allow her to get a house...those are actually both missing in the list. Where should those fit in?
Posted 15 months ago by b3achy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i've added BA1 and BL1 to the list.

BL1 needs to go before TP1.

BA1 can come in whenever she has the currants to purchase a house, just move BL1 up in front of it. it counts against the cap, but is only one skill.

btw, while i think mining is an important processor and sure typically come first in advance of BL, i understand that not everyone likes to mine. most of these skill groups can be swapped around .. so you could learn gardening before tinkering and still have similar [tho slightly worse] efficiency. You could also do teleportation last, the order makes a difference, since the last skill group will incur some inflation and the learning times are different, but overall this is a general guideline meant to prevent "putting off" mega learning times until they become ridiculously inflated.

also, your IRL work schedule may also effect your progression if you want to save the longer skills when you are at work or asleep and switch to learning shorter prerequisites while you play.

Exactly. Save the longer skills for work/sleep periods when I won't have the ability to change them immediately.
The main reason for working on the long skills overnight is that you get quests for most skills, so doing the quick ones while online gives you access to their respective quests, which give you bonus XP/Energy/Etc... and help speed up leveling. Sure, you'll get the quests when you log back in, but you waste all that wonderful energy from completing skills.

  • Aww man, I want the same type of house in Meadows. Had no idea that it was so popular. I can only hope that there will still be some left by the time I finish work 7 or 8 hours after the game starts up again (depending on when in the afternoon it starts up). Oh well, I can always haunt the real estate listings until one of them pops up for sale sooner or later.

Good luck with getting one for yourself Thee Robot Creator! Depending on how much time you have before you leave I think you'd be able to save up enough to get the house you want within hours. This number has no basis in fact (just completely out of my head), but I'm guessing it will take people about 6 to 8 hours to get enough for the houses around 10k.
