Can the Butler be Quiet?

I've found the chat switch, but butler still nags with "so-and-so is visiting your street" type messages.  Is there a way to turn these off too?

I mean, 10 people coming/going to a house party and that's 20 messages right there as they arrive and enter house (leave street), etc.

  • From Etna's announcement:
"there are some new IM commands available:
    * 'who' lists all the people on your street
    * 'tell him', 'tell her', or 'tell them' tells the butler give a message to the most recent person who entered the street. (The message is visible to everybody, but mentions the name of the person it is directed to.)
    * 'announce' will cause the butler to say something (visible to everybody in local chat)
    * 'quit' tells the butler to stop IMing you about visitors
    * 'resume tells the butler to start IMing you about visitors"

  • Just type "q" or "quit" in butler chat and they will shut up about visitors on your street.
"r" or "resume" will make the butler tell you about visitors on your street again.

  • I don't get that many visitors so that's not an issue for me. But I can see that it would be an irritation for busier homeowners.
The thing is - if I am "home" (in my house or backyard), and I get that message, at least I know who visited me. I have finally figured out that the butler doesn't "list" visitors he has already "announced" or visitors who have been on the street (even for a second) at the same time I have been there. Sometimes I get extra iMG from the Rock and I have no record of who was there.

  • Ok!  I saw those but didn't get any response from the Quit.   I had to be away from the butler and have a visitor on my street, THEN I could tell the butler to Quit.  That worked!

    Thanks, Mary!
