I chose that mix because there are tons of fruit, bean and bubble around my region (I even have a fruit tree just outside my door), so I don't really need those in my yard.
My advice is to get an idea of what trees you have easy access to in your area and what kinds of trees you'll use most, especially of the trees that you'd have to travel a long ways for.
Plant all wood trees. Then you won't have to worry about what to craft with the output, because all planks are good for is splanking and feeding the piggies.
Just kidding. Don't waste your patches on wood trees. They're not 'endangered', they are just useless so nobody plants them. To be 'endangered' it would have to be diffcult to season wood tree beans.
I have spice trees planted, as ever other tree harvest is either incidental stuff I seldom use or common-as-dirt out in the world. But really it isn't that important what you plant, because most of your tree harvests are going to be out on the public streets anyway. So be decorative if that suits you. (Hint: wood trees are one of the least decorative things in Ur)
wood trees are not useless. the planks can be sold at auction and often do better than cherries. AND i like to use planks for crafting
i like to have one wood tree in my yard just so i know i have one readily available. usually i am not at a loss for planks, but people are weird about wood trees, so you never know.
i have 1 wood tree, 2 spice trees, 1 bubble and 1 gas. bean and fruit are very common in my neighborhood and i am never at a loss. bubbles are pretty common several streets over and if i was more worried about profit than convenience i'd replace the bubble with the gas, but sometimes i'm making something at home and just need a few more bubbles.
wild gas trees are less convenient for me, but i use little gas and sell most of what i have.
bear in mind that if you do not like your tree configuration, you can always change it later.
Wood trees are not useless to everyone, even if they're useless to you, Parrow. Whether they're useful for the OP or not is up for the OP to decide. So... the uses of wood trees, in case the OP might be considering one:
1. Cheap piggy food (as mentioned)
2. Cheap guano production
3. Splanking (as mentioned, and if splanking is your thing)
4. Making several tools with tinkering
5. Making some salmon dish (though I think very few people would make this other than for fun)
6. Projects (whenever those come back)
I personally use them for options 1 & 2. That's just me, though, and it fits the way I play, so I like having a wood tree. If I had fewer patches than 4-5, I might not want one. I also suspect in the nearest time frame that "soon" can be, they will be useful for housing customization. I may have also missed a few uses, but anyway... there are some options.
I don't know, it depends on what you want to make frequently. For me I chose gas, bubble, and egg (I have a cave home that lets me have both types of patches, which I love!) ~ because I'm frequently seasoning beans and eggs and also I love making bubble tea. So I planted the ones I did so I'd always have a supply ready of that stuff. I used to have a spice tree when I lived in my forest home, but decided against planting another because I can always make a spice run in Ix and come out with hundreds of spices from that. So I don't need 1 of my own. ^_^
Cedar Plank Salmon is kind of an odd food item. It's almost like they said 'we have to come up something for the glitches to use planks for' so they put salmon in the Grocery Store and came out with the recipie. You can't actually catch or craft the salmon. You have to just buy them at the Grocery Store. It would be better if there were a fishing skill and an area to fish at.
So, you have to buy an ingredient at the Grocery Store in order for planks to be worth eating. But my piggies like it when I put them in the feeder. Hopefully there will be more uses, i.e. recipies for 'furniture,' as the game's features are expanded.
If you don't want to plant wood trees there is an alternative to much surprise I was roaming through some Groddle Meadow, Tamila and Bortal housing blocks and came across many :)
I have a gas, spice, cherry, wood, and bubble tree at home. I take very good care of the wood tree (always gets powder after a harvest and routine petting and watering) and so far it's produced over 5000 planks for me. granted, I take care of the others, just sayin...
but it comes down to what you want out of them. you could plant all of one or any combination of whatever will grow at your home
I have a wood tree, a spice tree and three gas trees. I would recommend one wood tree since they're more rarely found in the wild, so it's convenient to have one at home to get planks. I only harvest it when I need it and it gives me far more than I would ever need.
Spice and gas are because they are the trees I would need to go furthest to get from my house. I keep more gas than spice because I harvest spice every day since it sorts into the spice rack. I only harvest gas when I need it so it doesn't take up space in my bags.
