Egg plants in house patches in Groddle Meadow?

I was looking through the listings of the houses which have been sold in Groddle Meadow and I noticed some of the listings had egg plants.

How can you grow an egg plant in a normal patch? I haven't found any Groddle Meadow houses which advertise dark patches, so is this a glitch with some of the houses?

I would like to be able to replace one of my trees with an egg plant if that's possible.

  • According to the WIKI, you can use bean seasoner and 1 heavy gas, 2 pineapples, 1 camphor and 1 bean to make a seasoned bean that will grow into an egg plant tree. You do have to have a dark patch to grow that tree. If you go to the WIKI and type in bean seasoner in the search box it will show you all the types of seasoned beans that you can make. If you don't have the skills to use bean seasoner you can buy seasoned beans from a gardening vendor or at an auction. But, be prepared to stick around your house for a bit, the first beans I planted must have died (or it was a bug). The second ones I planted grew, I stayed and petted the seedlings several times and eventually they needed water and grew. Edited to add I was so excited to be able to answer your question I failed to read the question carefully. I left the post since someone else may want info on getting a seasoned bean to grow egg plant trees.

  • I have a house in Marrakesh Meadow and was able to plant an egg tree a few tests ago.
I hope it is meant to be and not a bug as suggested. Perhaps a dark patch is no longer a requirement?

  • I understood that in your own garden (only) you can grow any sort of tree no matter where it usually grows. I have a house in Estevan Meadows and have an egg tree - just planted the bean and tended it like any other. The usual rules apply elsewhere, but your ownj garden is an exception.

  • Oh, ty, Twoodle! I was wondering that because a friend who also lives in Groddle Heights has a spice tree in her yard, and I had tried to plant those in our neighborhood and got told I couldn't, so this makes a lot of sense. OH! And I know someone in the Meadow who has bubble trees in her yard, and those aren't supposed to grow there. Seems to me you are 100% correct. Yay! I think I shall kill my fruit tree and get a spice tree going now...

  • Yup, agree with Twoodle, I'm in Marylpole and have a thriving Egg plant:)

  • My house in Shimla Mirch came with a [edit:] EGG tree AND a firefly swarm! But no patches for any other trees and no garden. So I guess it balances out.

  • That's intriguing that some are able to grow egg plants outside of dark patches, since the encyclopedia here does state that egg plants can only be grown in dark patches:
This kind of bean can only be planted in Dark Patches, which you will only find underground

My neighbor was not able to grow an egg plant in her backyard off Marypole Mount this test, although last test she could, so, it'd be good to hear from the devs on the expected behavior for back yards!

  • Huh, I wonder who has fiddled with the encyclopedia? Every tree bean EXCEPT for the egg tree bean says "You can plant this in your back yard — if you have one — no matter where you live." The egg tree bean entry does indeed say only in dark patches, underground. Hmm, i wonder did I simply overlook that last week, or has it changed since then? (Dear Devs - Please don't take away my egg plant :( )

  • I agree with zeeberk, I recently moved to Marypole Mount and tried to plant an egg tree and I was told I couldn't. Now all of my patches are full and I'm thinking I should have been able to plant an egg tree.

If having an egg tree is a bug, good for everyone who has one. If my inability to plant an egg tree is the bug, I want to file a fix request.

  • File it anyway.

  • Yeah - I'm Zeeberk's neighbour, and had an eggplant in my house in the meadows before the reset, but this last test, I tried to plant a seasoned eggplant bean in my backyard, same location but different house, and couldn't :( I'm with @zaphod ETA - I'm wondering if the difference is that last time I made the bean myself and this time I bought one?

  • Interesting. If you look at the real estate pages, some of the properties specify that they come with an egg plant, and some specify that they come with a dark patch (so you should be able to plant an egg plant there) but others don't. So perhaps they made a change recently where only some properties will allow egg plants?

  • @Twoodle
I'm thinking that the entry has changed; I thought it had the same description as the other beans, too.  Also, I'm thinking that the text with shaded backgrounds seems to be something new that's been showing up since the last test, so...  Still, I'm hoping we'll be able to keep our egg plants...  :/

    @Trad
My egg plant was from a bought bean and not a seasoned one as I planted it before learning botany.  However, it was planted 2 tests ago when I first bought my home in Marrakesh Meadows.  If people were unable to plant them in their yards last test, it might be more likely that something changed between the two tests.

Silly question, can you plant anything in a dark patch or only egg plants?  Also, the spice bean says they can only be planted in Ix or Shimla Mirch.  I thought they were all over the place in the Groddle areas.  I'd hate to think that they'll disappear from those areas later.  The Groddle areas were my one-stop shop for all my cooking needs.  :P

  • Quoting Marebito:  "My egg plant was from a bought bean and not a seasoned one as I planted it before learning botany." "Also, the spice bean says they can only be planted in Ix or Shimla Mirch."

Quoting myself: "I have a house in Marrakesh Meadow and was able to plant an egg tree a few tests ago."

Add to this, I also have a spice tree in my Marrakesh Meadow yard.
I guess I was lucky and planted when I did. Seems like it must have been a temporary bug.

All of this is food for thought for where to house shop when we move on to Beta I suppose.

  • @marebito and @alwaysJW yeah - no eggplant for me, but I do have a spice plant and a gas plant in Groddle Meadow :)  Us gardeners, we're always trying to push the planting zones lol.

  • I had one of those properties, and was one of the people who planted an egg tree.  A few tests back, there was no dark restriction on the egg plant when you were planting it in your own garden.  This was changed in the more recent test to require a dark area, even in your own garden.

However, if you had previously planted one, it will remain.  So if you do like I did, plant one, then sell the house the plant will still be there, along with my two pigs, and fruit tree!
