I followed the discussion about the resource cost of the new Potion Making 3 potions with great interest. After some thought, I supposed that the original formulations were partly selected for the purpose of depleting people's resources. If so, I think that was a great idea.
I'm continually amazed at the prodigious quantities of stuffs that players are able to amass. Once a player reaches about Level 10 - and with SDBs, of course, - it's ridiculously easy to collect massive quantities of things. (I had over 11,000 meats at one point; it was ludicrous IMO.)
But applying the example of the Extremely Rare Items, which sucked enormous quantities of currants out of people - which was a good thing - perhaps we could think of potions that would serve the same purpose. They could require a large number of items (perhaps crops and gems as well as herbs) which would be hard to create but would confer some sort of status symbol on the player. Perhaps a crown that one would wear for an entire game day. Perhaps a golden glow that would surround one for a game day (I've got dibs on climbing the nearest tree and yelling, "I am a golden god!").
Maybe a future Feat could require people to contribute large quantities of things, which would ascend to some higher plane of existence and be lost to us. Thereupon, requiring replacement and thus, more "doing stuff".
