Buy Land-> Build Homes

I think it may be fun to allow players to Build their own homes. Home options would be based on Player Skills/ Achievements completed.
Example: House Kitchen requires Cheffery 3, CC2, Tinkering 3. + 3k currents......
Maybe design options based on Giant Affiliation?

This way the house could continue to change and improve.

  • Yes, I'd actually love to see something minecrafty where you perhaps first make blocks (or buy them) with a block maker, and then put them together however you want to build the exterior. I suppose there could be limitations on what kinds of blocks can be used where so that different areas keep a certain look (only wood and natural material blocks in groddle forest, for example). For the interior, there could be a pre-fab set of furniture and items and you could purchase them, this is perhaps where the skill & achievements could come in. I like the idea of only getting a kitchen when you have a certain cooking skill.

  • That's a fantastic idea! I think that that sort of creativity would do a lot to assuage the discussion of a lack of user modification that is happening in a couple threads. And would be a really long-term and changeable goal for the game.

    Also would be an interesting solution to the people who argue that buying a high-priced house in Alakol leaves too many houses elsewhere vacant. That way you could modify your entire property to suit your lifestyle - if you want a lot of storage space (and a kitchen, if that happens) then you can buy a smaller property in the Meadows and just build a house that consumes all of the land and grows upwards (and downwards) in size. But if you want a lot of garden room, then buy a large property and just build a smaller house if you want.

    FrankenPaula - the reference to Minecraft is a really great example! I love the idea of modifying the interior and exterior of the houses based on the type you want and then using skills as a marker for what you could include. In another thread (http://beta.glitch.com/forum/ideas/3964), I mentioned that Engineering and Cooking skills could be combined to work an oven, so maybe in a similar way they can also allow you to build a kitchen! And maybe add Carpentry and Masonry as skills to build the houses!

    I do think though some people will want to buy houses pre-built so there should be options for that as well!

  • Maybe Masonry and Carpentry could be unlocked after you have Tinkering II and Engineering or something!

  • It would also be nice if you could hire someone else to build your home, let's say in the case where you had the money, but had not learned the building skills.  Seems strange that only the people with advanced building skills (and thus potentially fewer other skills) would be on the only ones who could benefit from a fancy new house.

  • Merek: I tend to try and be self-sufficient, and relish building up my own skillset in general. So the idea of such fantastic cooperation never even crossed my mind, but it's a great idea and opens up a whole new built-in channel for socialization. If they could implement that level of sophisticated housing that would be awesome.

  • If we were able to build houses in new streets this would also resolve player's complaints of new streets that have been opened to be dull and uninteresting to visit after the project is finished.

    Maybe also patches could be "built" by Glitches as a quest for others to plant trees and plants...

    And I like the idea of being able to add to my house very much. And the idea of being able to build new houses and to sell/auction them to other Glitches.

  • I like this idea... as long as it doesn't supplant the ability to simply buy a house. It's nice to have a prefab option while you're working on other objectives and learning skills; after you've become proficient at a few things, the building option might be a little less daunting.

  • +1 on the building of houses. 

    Many people love the 'goal' orientation of the game. It'd be wonderful even if the house was cut up into 'bigger' blocks (which the user can select one from a variation) and start building it- And perhaps buy special ERFS! too for planting. There'd be a sense of satisfaction at making the house 'your own' and semi-customized- while this option might cut down on it becoming -too- customized where it'd lag out the game and/or give the Devs a headache.

  • +1 on this entire idea, would be a good new avenue for skill use (and those blocks that are useless for anything apart from projects), plus the customisation aspect would be kickass.
