On the blog, the staff indicated that at some point in the future, they're planning on letting us decorate and possibly expand our homes. As a part of that line of game extension, I propose the idea of shelving.
It seems many Glitchen, myself included, have a tendency to fill our cupboards and then throw our leftover resources on the floor. Even if you organize your piles or use bags, you end up with an unsightly mess, and you get embarrassed to invite friends over. What we need is shelves that we can attach to our walls and organize our piles of stuff on. They don't have to be very complex, just like small platforms we can jump onto and drop stuff.
To obtain shelving in our houses I propose a new skill: Carpentry. Also, a new carpentry tool to go along with the skill. This tool will work like other "recipe" tools; a list of furniture that can be built, and the components needed to build them. Furniture should not come cheap though. I was thinking along the lines of being able to convert a large number of planks into a "beam", much like smelting metal rock into ingots. Then furniture can be crafted from combinations of beams, planks, ingots and other construction materials.
Other possible furniture could include:
Tables - Like shelves, but sit on the floor instead of mounted to the wall.
Chairs / Armchairs / Sofas - You could sit on these and be allowed to idle without losing energy.
Beds - Allow you to nap and recharge energy (similar to meditation) but you wake up groggy and your movement speed is slow temporarily.
Cabinets - DIY cabinet making or upgrading. You could possibly make one or two slot display cabinets too, with glass (crystal?) doors so you can see inside, but visitors can't touch the stuff if the cabinet is locked.
So, what do you guys think? Would Carpentry and building your own Furniture be something that you'd like to do? Would it add that extra something to your home, or would it just create a new kind of clutter?
