The Change Log - LOL!

The first thing I do when I get here is look at the Change Log - Love it!  Thanks Devs!  It is also usually my first laugh of the day.  I am easily amused I guess but the change in the use of Hairball had me rolling as I visualized a race winner flying across the finish line before his/her opponent even took a step.  Some of these Changes have to do with nerfing unfair advantages like that one.

I watch squirrels.  That is very entertaining because squirrels are very clever.  They are excellent at figuring ways around the obstacles put up to keep them out of bird feeders.  Glitches are quite squirrely.  We are all clever and there is no end of discoveries we make on how to advance in the game, usually to the detriment of less clever or more fair minded Glitches.  So, It is with expectation and delight that I check the Change Log daily in an effort to find things like the Hairball fix - Lol!

  • I love watching squirrels too ~they are cute and they are smart!
I had squirrels nicking peanuts from a bird feeder I had hung in a tree,so I decided to put one of them 'squirrel-baffles' on top of the bird feeder -it took the little guys maybe 3 or 4 tries, before one of them figured out an alternate way to get at the food: instead of sitting on the feeder,he clung to the branch with his hind legs, pulled the feeder towards him with one of his front paws, fished out the peanuts with the other paw, and ate them while hanging upside down from the branch.
    LOL! =)

  • When I lived in the UK, a local pointed out a grey to me and said, helpfully, "That's a squirrel!" "Yes," I replied. "We have black ones in Canada." This mystified him. He'd never heard of such a thing and thought I was making it up.

On an unrelated note, a running squirrel looks remarkably like a sine wave.

  • Haha - my first trip to Vancouver I was fascinated by the black squirrels (*)... never knew such a thing existed. Now it's just "meh... another black squirrel".

Apparently they're a form of the grey squirrel with higher levels of melanin and used as evidence of natural selection: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanism

Now a RED squirrel... now that's something really special :-)

    (*) 'skwi-rrel' please, never 'squirl'

  • I used to work with a guy who was kinda off he would always try to tell this story to try to amaze us about how they have black squirrels in Metro Detroit. I woud always respond with "No, shit. I'm from Metro Detroit." Yet time and time again he would tell this story. Usually after cornering me in the supply closet and just edging closer and closer. I think he had a meth/crack addiction.

Wait, what is this thread about?

  • We have black ones in Florida too!  I spent a weekend in a fish camp on the Gulf, black squirrels all over!

ETA:  this thread has gone from watching squirrely Glithes to watching glitchy Squirrels.

  • Hmm... The only times I've seen a squirrel was in a zoo.

  • There ARE black squirrels in metro Detroit, and gray ones too, as well as the common brownish-red ones. And northern Michigan including the UP (Upper Peninsula) has the smaller red squrrels, and flying squirrels.  I have seen all of 'em, but not the ground squirrel and the woodchuck. Chipmunks are also squirrels; we got lots of them too.
I dunno about glitchen...at least a few in Michigan, but very possibly related. Definitely wiley. And cute.

  • Hmm... I don't think I've seen squirrely Glitchen in the Zoo. At least I have seen one Glitch in the wild and I know that we have Glitchen here in the Philippines.

    :D

  • I am in Detroit proper (WSU area). I even know someone who studies squirrels around here! Apparently the black ones are more populous further north because they have better heat retention in winter (not just the melanin/black fur, but their mitochondria also have a particular protein, thermogenin or some relative, used to burn fuel and keep them warm in addition to creating ATP... long story short, they have special "use food for warmth" proteins). Anyway. I thought that was the COOLEST thing in the world.

And I just nerded out on you, sorry. :)
