Pagination in Forums

The most annoying thing about the current 'Annoying' thread over in General is that it's now at 157 replies, all on a single page, 'Average age of a Glitcher' is up to 173 replies. I'm getting blisters on my Magic Mouse finger scrolling down to the bottom of the page each time I want to look at the latest replies.

Any change of breaking these down into more managable sized pages at some point?

  • I think its a really good point Dopiaza - Although I think the developers would probably prefer to spend their time on game development.  I'm probably more guilty than most of filling threads with rubbish although i'd like to think that I offered some useful comments and suggestions at times too - I personally like the idea of a real-time chat facility, that way these long debates and "spirited discussions" would potentially burn themselves out.  Alternatively a thread could have a life span of say a week and then be either archived in case the devs feel there might be something of value or deleted.  If something is earth shatteringly important then it can be raised again.

  • Hi dopiaza.  This isn't really a solution, just a hint at easier "scrolling".  I'm really hard on my mouse, so one of the ways I spare it, is using the sidebar to roll up & down instead of the mouse button.  Speedy, hehe.

  • Multiple pages is a grand idea, and I hope that they can implement it sometime soon. I know from the Free-Lovin' Glitches group that there are now multiple pages of discussion topics. Finally, another easy way to get to the bottom of the page is to simply press the End key; it takes you quite literally to the very end. Then I suppose you would have to scroll up a bit to find the place where you last left off, but in the cases of the aforementioned threads, I would say it's worth it.

  • I am of the opinion that Glitch simply needs to use a standard full-featured forum system like vBulletin or something. This extremely basic forum approach was fine when Glitch was early alpha and there's a limited number of users actively posting. But we're about to hit beta and there's a wait list of 40,000+ members that they want to let in in large chunks. This whole forum system needs a serious redesign. Thread organization, pagination, the ability to easily follow threads youve posted to, and easily find replies to your own posts whether they're full threads or just a small post in a large thread. With a huge influx of users this forum system is going to become very difficult to use very fast. :(

  • Ok, so I posted in Bugs when I should have posted here:

I'd like to be able to go directly to the last page of a thread.  Currently, clicking on the title of the thread takes you to the first page.  You can scroll down to the bottom to click on page numbers to jump to the last page.

clicking on the "#comments" doesn't take you to the last post either.  Which I expected to happen.

Could we get some one to go to the most recent comments, last page, whatever when we revisit a topic?
