Lack of good housing

I just spent my day scrounging together enough cash to upgrade my digs. I hit my target of 55k currants and went to the real estate listings, hoping to find a nice cottage in groddle meadow or maybe one of the huge place in alakol. Instead I find... nothing in my price range. Not even close. I can get something slightly bigger than my starter tree house, but none of the big, nice houses are available. Nothing.

I know devs/staff have said they can add more housing as neccessary, but it seems like there is just an insane demand. And adding a dozen more houses would just be putting a bandaid on the situation.

So, anyone have ideas for dealing with the housing problem? I think there is an opportunity for houses to be sold like on auction, maybe with higher fees. Also, maybe a propery tax should be levied every month, so that inactive people lose their homes and those go back on the market naturally.

  • If people have to play every day or every week to keep their houses, you're going to drive away anyone who wants to play casually, has a job, or goes on holiday. If there were some property tax idea, it would be of any help you you now (or it shouldn't be) as the game has barely been live a month. It should take at least 6 months of inactivity to lose a house.

  • I've been playing this game for over a year, so I still think in the long term. Yes, daily or weekly taxes would be ridiculous (thats why I said monthly), and monthly would take a long time to have a real effect. But it would atleast make a system that keeps moving. Once people buy a 50,000c house, they have little to no incentive to move on to smaller houses, so I can't see any of them freeing up anytime soon.

  • We had the same discussion here already a few days ago. Almost everything was gone.

Then for a few days, there were tons of new houses, where you could choose freely among your favourites.

So I guess, just be patient. And by the way, there are quite a few people who think that the 5000 or 7500 bog houses are much nicer than the 50k houses anyway. There are quite a few 7,5k bog houses still available, in Shimla Mirch for example, not far away located from the Groddle island.

Once personal upgrading kicks in, all this will (hopefully) completely change, anyway.

  • @MrGlass I don't get your point then. You say your thinking is long-term, but you're making a complaint about something happening in the short term. Since the game is only about a month old, there wouldn't be any evictions because of "taxes" by this time but you could find a house in the next week if you're diligently checking the real estate page.

  • @Billy McBinky My issue is, right now, there seems to be 0 movement in the housing market. So while i know that one does come up time to time, to me that is still a problem. Again, this is probably alpha/beta thinking: I'm not trying to complain about not having a house right now, but rather identifying a gameplay problem and trying to come up with a long term fix.

I had forgotten about house customizations, but will those allow me to expand? I figured I would just be able to purchase different decor, maybe swap around the patches/farmland at my house

  • MrGlass, not only are new housing blocks opening on almost a daily basis, they are adding housing to new streets as well.  For example, Groddle Forest now has housing on streets that did not have housing blocks a week ago.

There's a lot of movement in the housing market.  There's a lot of demand as well.  You just have to stay on top of the new openings.

  • MrGlass, the answer to your customization question per stoot barfield: www.glitch.com/forum/genera...

"This is the most important (and largest) feature we are adding to the game. We originally planned to have it in during beta, but it is very complex! (Whole new UIs, hundreds of items, wallpapers, decorations, new kinds of projects for upgrades, different flexible house "frames" which can be extended in different ways ... all do-able, just a lot of work to get right.) Don't expect it before 2012 and you will not be disappointed!"
