Protip: Guano Collection in Pairs

I agree that the initial changes to gardening weren't balanced. However, the subsequent modifications seem to be fair, and with a dash of guano gardening can be as enjoyable as before (possibly more).

So, for those who are vertically challenged and detest chasing bats around for guano, Faereluth and I have found the following technique to be helpful:

1. Find a poop buddy and venture to the caves. Kajuu and Alakol have nice caves too, with gentle slopes.
2. One player 'grabs' the bat by selecting it with the enter button. The bat will stay stationary!
3. Second player can continuously feed the bat and collect guano without having to chase after it.
4. ?
5. Profit.

The beauty is that the bat will hang above the player who grabs it indefinitely making for a simplified, disgusting, guano-filled adventure! You can either alternate the role of grabber and feeder/collecter, or divide the poopy proceeds equitably. I also suggest wearing a nice, sturdy boot and not sandals. Definitely not sandals.

After doing this with a few players, consensus is that this method makes guano collection tolerable, and gardening at least as good as it was before.

If anyone needs a partner to test and perfect the technique, let me know. I'm happy to help!

  • Joe - never thought about collecting guano w/a buddy, but will have to look into trying it when the game is open next. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • oh joe, great idea you smartypants you!

you could even have a third player focus on nothing but picking up the fallen poop, but i suppose if the batterfly is stationary the fallen poops are much easier to buttonmash pick up by the feeder at the conclusion of feeding.

  • Joe Blow: you helped me by doing this while I was trying to collect poop last test, and I can't thank you enough.  It was very very useful and a great idea.  So thanks again!!!!!!

  • Near the end of the test i was wandering through a cave and found 4 plops of guano laying on the ground in different spots.  I don't know if some kind player left them for us poor inept guano gatherers or if the batterflys now just bomb away (hope it is the second).  If someone did drop them, I thank you very much!  I have had very little luck getting my own guano.

  • @Brib, I've heard that the bats are randomly dropping guano in addition to the prompted pooping.

  • @Brib and jasbo- I can't find where it was first mentioned that the bats would occasionally drop poo on their own, but HERE is where it says the random guano dropping rate was increased.

I can't wait to see poop partners in action though now that you brought it up, you know what may happen.

  • That is so much better than me trying to corner them in some cave jumping up and down like a yo yo and then when I do finally catch one accidentally feed it 6 awesome stews, all at once.  Poor Bat staggered out of that dead end cave and I got 3 whole bat shits.  I never want to torture another bat again in my life.  Partners sounds so cool though I'm not so sure anyone will want to be my partner everybody will be afraid I'll have them weigh 900 pounds by the time we catch a bat.

  • I swore I read the title 3 times, and it said "PARIS".   Good information, but now I have a hankering for a croissant.  A chocolate covered one! har har.

  • Brilliant! I suspect it can be working with a pig, a butterfly, and a SQUAWK! as well.

  • "Hey, Tanga, what are you playing?"

    - This great game called Glitch!

    "Cool, what do you do?"

    - Go into caves and feed a bat until it defecates, then I pick up the bat guano.

    "Erk, that's gross!"

    - Hey, at least I'm not the one that has to hold the bat while it's defecating.

  • Great system... What's the least you can feed the bat to get it to poop?

  • This tip is awesome.

But personally, I'm just relieved that gardening has been sufficiently un-nerfed that you don't practically *need* to harvest guano for gardening. Any game that needs a strategy and a poop buddy to harvest poo is... just too much for me.

  • This is a great idea! I was getting a bit frustrated the last test when I was guano-hunting and some player kept taking the droppings. Not nice. Pairing up would prevent that from happening. Will have to try this next test :)

  • thanks Joe! Excellent Tip!

That said, since folks with Remote Herdkeeping already have butterfly milkers and meat collectors, I'm hoping that next test will see the appearance of a new item at the Hardware or Anumal Tools Vendors: Batterfly Diapers

  • (Edit: I was repeating something that was previously said. Must... read... before... posting.)

  • yep, pretty sure that it was mentioned in chat when this was implemented, that bats now poop of their own free will, as a way to alleviate some of the pain of collecting the guano.

  • PS: Sometimes batterflies hide away and not come out. Poor Pepper Rose had to assure me on Help that the batterflies in Simean Dims did not die.
