What are people doing to get so much XP?

So far I am doing good. I am level 12 and I have made the top 1000 list of both achievements and places visited according to the Leaderboard. However, I am back in the thousands in terms of XP. Now, I am not XP obsessed, but unless I am significantly gaining achievements faster than other people, then these people ahead of me must've gained XP faster than I have. Out of curiosity, I'm wondering, what are these people doing to level up faster than I am?

  • I get most of my experience through donations to shrines.
I'd love to know what else works well...

  • Donations to shrines mainly & exploring.  Love the xp for hitting new streets.

  • Just make sure that your mood is always as high as it can be, then craft large amounts at one time and make sure you donate as much as you possibly can.
Also, the coins that are available while exploring the desert streets tend to give exaggerated amounts of XP and currants, so make sure to go out there whenever you can.

  • I donate to shrines to get the icons, that's my number one source of XP, but I also have the higher level in some skills, so I get a decent amount of XP just by harvesting, interacting with critters, etc. and I also completed all the quests I received.

  • Keeping mood at the max level makes the biggest difference in everything you do that earns XP. You'll be losing a lot of potential XP in large quantities such as when donating to shrines if your mood is low.

The Leaderboards aren't accurate at the moment; if you view each page individually you'll find you're actually not in the top 1000 for achievements and places visited unfortunately because the number at the bottom only shows distinct places and doesn't take into account tied scores like the paged results.

  • I don't play for xp at all, but I accidentally leveled up superfast last week when I was donating to shrines to speed through BL5.   Am now trying to figure out how to hang around not getting too much more xp!

  • interestingly, xp is a by-product of playing the game.

i was busy having fun playing a happy little game and learning to manipulate objects and forces in its world and -boom- there was all this xp, which people seem to worry about almost as much as they worry about some imaginary currency that also seems to be a by-product of playing the game.

  • Lots of mining, gardening, shrines and of course do all quests that you're presented with.  Lots of petting, water, harvest, pet, squeeze, massage / milk / sing to.  It adds up fast.  ^_^

  • perhaps a silly question; but where are the 'leaderboards' that people refer to now and again ?

  • You can find the leaderboards here Mschif http://www.glitch.com/leaderboards/xp/

  • My xp just tends to happen. Of course it's really really happening now that I've been seriously donating to shrines, but before that even I was just zipping right along. I craft a lot though, and I mean A LOT every game day: food, seasoned beans, seasoned eggs. Tons and tons of crafting. Probably stemming from that four month Minecraft addiction...

  • Donating to shrines. Really, I donated mainly to cut down on my learning time but found that my constant donations have zoomed me to my current level.

  • I haven't been trying to get xp but I've levelled up a lot recently now that I've hit a bunch of longer skills and have been donating to shrines a lot. Actually I've been shocked how much xp that can give you!

    Also @jello +1 :0)

  • Maxing your exp from shrine donations everyday will grant huge exp bonuses. Eating 3 purple snow cones a day will add little extra as well. Large number of icons can provide a serious daily exp boost.

Those are some basic and easy sources of exp.

  • Pay attention to the new day. When new day is coming fix all your tools. Make all your flour. Make everything and anything you can to get yourself to the lowest amount of energy as possible or die.
Pay attention to when you are going to level up. Don't stuff yourself full of food if you're only a few thousand points away from leveling up. Use up all your energy before you level up.
Stop and make everything you have. If you are a cook, grind all your allspice, make all your flour, make all your fruits. Making these mass amount of items gives good XP. Then run around and do whatever you want, sing to butterflies. You have enough food to keep singing!
Max donate to your primary shrine every game day.
Never mine w/o Earthshakers. That's free XP!
Travel around to every street. Finish Achievements and Badges.

  • Well, I make my XP by buying stuff and going to new Streets. They gave about 30 XP if you buy something, and around 12-24 XP if you explore. But I meditatate a fairly large amount.Meditation is pretty good if you want about 10 XP and some more Mood & Energy.

  • Grab a bean seasoner and start seasoning - you won't regret it
Posted 14 months ago by nopundittenet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Eventually, you won't get enough XP from donating to your primary shrine, so donate some to a secondary shrine as well to max out your donation bonus for the day.

  • As a side note, don't forget that xp from shrines is based on xp to your next level. For example, the daily shrine cap for L59 is approximately enough to get to L15 (~50k).

  • By going to the Encyclopedia section, then into the Location section you can see what area's you have visited by clicking each place within each town. Although time consuming, this practice gave me more & more xp as well as completist achievements of each area. Also handy if you generally want to aim for higher levels/whilst longer timed - skills are being processed.

  • I fight pigs.
Posted 13 months ago by Xev Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I get a lot of mine now from my icons.  Each is good for at least 500xp a day, and I have five of them.  Plus, they sometimes randomly bestow more!

Earlier on, I got a ton just by doing my completist badges for every region.

  • Achievments and quests are also a decent source of XP.
Posted 13 months ago by Malus Agricola Subscriber! | Permalink
  • towards the end of levelling, mainly by donating there were a few days of 80k+ xp, which took  an unhealthy amount of effort, wouldn't recommend it.

having all the icons and working out tithing (let them get empty and only tithe on a new day just before 'reflecting' for xp) means you can get about 14/15k from them alone on later levels.

Early on a lot came from exploring, quests, general grind, building up the AK and cooking and gardening skills helps a lot but it only really ramps up when you hit the longer skills and start donating a lot.

  • Sing to butterflies, but massage and milk them also.  Squeeze chickens, Pet everything.  All the food you get from pigs and butterflies can be eaten or sold so you can keep going.

  • Build houses. Make minced meat pies. Do the 'Fast and the Furriest" quest. Pick cherries, turn them into lemons, and plant them to make lemon trees. Create new hairstyles.

  • Crafting in moderately large quantities (although most of what comes out of that either goes into the belly or is sold in auction or to vendors), and donating "found" items & mining materials to the giants.
