Game from the USA, humour very British

I think it's one of the things I love most about the game. The wit.
It's like taking Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman and putting them all into a shaker with a large pinch of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Shaken, not stirred.
And bacon..there must always be bacon.

  • Could be partially due to (one of) the writer(s) being British ;) But yes, the whole tone and humour of the dialogue with the Rock and the animals etc: hilarious. So unpredictable!

ETA as per annapeee's request ;)

  • I do love the humour in this game, but given I prefer Brit comedies over american ones it all makes sense. Pratchett being one of my fav authors too.

    Brits spell properly too :P

  • Properly but less efficiently. Though I do love British spellings. :P

  • I had no idea one of the writers is British (newbie mode on), and that certainly does explain a lot :)

edit: anything to please annapeee :)

  • Not - please note - the only writer. :)

But yes, in the case of this one, guilty as charged.

  • Other countries have humour too?

  • no, they have humor :D

  • Except for the Canadians, Australians and Indians...

  • My favorite moment was having to wait in the offices at Gregarious Grange. No one in front of you, but you have to wait anyway. And if they see you reading, you'll wait longer.

Was perfect. Keep up the humor and I'll keep playing.

  • I think what tickled me more about that card-carrying quest was the fact all the bureaucrats were lizard men. Heck yeah!

I remember when Rock gave me that Happy Endings for All quest. He mentioned that he could possibly get arrested for that. Oh snap, right? And then there's the very existence of No-No Powder, and how I had to drink 12 beers but I could shotgun it...

Hell's Grannies, man. Hell's Grannies. Do want.

  • Actually, several members of the Tiny Speck crew are British!

The rest of us fell from space in a glowing meteor.

  • Sadly, due to chemical abuse both intentional and enviromental
many American minds have turned to mush.......we can never hope to match the inherent wit of the European intellect....

  • Oh that's great, because thanks to America's inner bureaucratic workings I've actually lost my citizenship and am still really Asian.

  • There's far too much  fruit in the game. I'm worried that a 'Self Defence from Fruit' skill could become necessary.

  • Love the humor, too -- and bet a poll would show LOTS of Britcom, Terry Pratchett, Dr.Who, Monty Python, Benny Hill fans here......
Posted 18 months ago by ElleD Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Interestingly, ElleD - while the rest might be the same,  a similar poll in the UK would show almost NO fans of Benny Hill. Honestly, we have no idea what the rest of the world saw in him! Still amazes me.

  • Oh yes, totally agree annapeee - I loathe Benny Hill and always have done. Unfortunately he's still fairly popular here in Italy where I now live.

  • The game needs some Spam.

  • No, it needs a Ministry of Silly Walks.

  • It needs cake.

    ...No go?

  • Liridona - an interesting idea. Cake. It would stimulate the part of the brain responsible for time perception, I'm guessing. Whatever that part of the brain is called. "Shatner's Bassoon", I believe.

I"m not sure how possible it is, but it's a lovely idea.

  • You should eat more fresh fruit! (Especially if you spot a loganberry maniac on the loose)

The Glitchodone Clinic (crazy group I run) even has a Monty Python quote thread. Just because. I'm an American but crazy for British humor. Love the stuff. Definitely a major reason Glitch appeals to me!

  • -struggling to process that a dev has replied to something I have said-

...Gwah. Wow. That's the first time that's ever happened to me. OK. That was awesome.

David Arness is one MP that probably won't be playing Glitch any time soon, if there's any mention of it and the effects it has on one's neck.

  • Speaking of, if any of the devs are still reading this, a Fourth Doctor-y long scarf in the Glitch wardrobe would be brilliant.

  • Why yes, yes it would. +1 Lianne.

  • Not British. Only lived and went to school there for two years (5 years in Germany). :) Love Dr. Who, Monty Python, Terry Pratchett (Must get more Discworld!), Fawlty Towers, Blackadder...
And for the record, Piers Anthony is a transplanted Brit for those who read and love Xanth.

  • ouch, sure took lumps re Benny Hill. But thanks for mentioning Piers Anthony, Fokian!

  • I'm a Brit living in the US and spotted the English gags... a little witty banter and definite overtones of mild double entendres. It gives the game a little something extra.

I am not sure the British will think much of a street with the names "Wanks" in it... but I could be wrong.
