I'd like to make an unpopular suggestion! Whooopie!

Can Get Out of Hell cards please be nerfed?  The full-energy-tank-refill is kinda silly, and is a big reason why folks don't make food anymore.  I'm not a player who enjoys cooking in Glitch, so this is not self-serving (quite the contrary actually).  I've just noticed that those of us with giant energy tanks have little or no reason to eat because of the refill on these cards.  You're welcome to disagree and I won't get my panties in a twist, just don't insult my mom.  

Might I suggest a 15% tank fill instead of 100%?  Let's haggle.

  • I'd agree with this actually. 
    I don't have a huge energy tank, but I rely on the GOHF cards a little too much- and never bother cooking anymore.
     Maybe a variety of percents available? 15%, 40% and 60% for varying IMG costs. I would also think it would be good to make them a bit more expensive. As it is now, people have their butlers give them away, they are so cheap.

  • I've been waiting for this nerf actually.  I have over 100 of them, use one or two during any long play session, never eat and rarely meditate, and never seem to run low on the cards. 

    Another possibility, keep them at 100% fill but make them come up much less often.  Much much less.  Like doll rarity. 

    Have the cost not be based on a fixed percentage but a percentage that grows.

  • I can see your view on this...however...there are plenty of players that do have small or smallish tanks, so that shouldn't be the main reason for an adjustment for the Get out of Hell Free Cards. Please keep in mind that some struggle more than others trying to fill back up their tank, they may have died in the first place because they didn't have any food, or they leave hell but don't have anything to drink etc. That being said, if the cards were adjusted so it gave full energy and half mood,  just something so everything wasn't at 100%, sounds fine to me. And I liked the idea of the cards not coming up as often. Currently they DO come up way to often, at the very least that should be reduced.

  • I hear you Lyrical, and I remember very well what it was like to scrape by on teeny bits of energy... wondering if I'd be able to find a piggy to nibble before my energy ticked down to zero!

    The real pain in the rear about dying before the GOoHF cards was the 100% mood loss.  The little energy replenished by squishing grapes was usually enough to climb back out of the ditch, but mood was a lot harder to get back, what with butterfly lotion and energy required to massage butterflies for milk to drink or shrine donations not counting for much with low mood. 

    Perhaps a flat # for energy refill and a full mood refill?  300 energy, fixed, would be plenty to fill lower-level players' tanks, but not enough to make those of us with giant energy jugs (heh) forego food all the time.  Cooked food has become useless to me, and I suspect to many others as well.  

    And to those who have suggested lowering the frequency of the GOoHF cards in the deck- yes to that too!

  • I like the full mood, couple hundred energy option. I like the cooking skills and it bums me out that I don't have more of a reason to use them. And I have way too many GOHF cards. I don't like dying, so I give them away especially to new glitches. But they are way overpowered for glitches with energy tanks over 1000.

  • I also think it would need to still refill your mood to full. Those of us with high tanks....it's pretty well impossible to refill our own mood meters! I tried just yesterday and ruminating all the icons got me less than halfway there I think, and the cooldown for meditation is a few minutes when the tank is this big.

    If I wanted to get mood the old-fashioned way, I would need to drink 826 milk! And I'm at the low end of the high tank range ;)

  • For those of us with big e-tanks, the GOOHF cards are a total boondoggle. I agree a nerf is appropriate, and propose a flat rate maximum of 3000 for mood and energy.

  • Firstly it seems we all agree the frequency these cards come up is WAY too much. Maybe instead make it 75% mood 75% energy? i just think 50% of either (as i rethink) seems rather low. And i agree buying an energy upgrade card should NOT automatically fill your tank.

  • The problem is that having energy as a percentage doesn't really fix the problem. If you've got 10,000 energy, or 30,000 - then 75% of that is still a LOT of free energy. 

    Another option is that they could stay as they are, but the price is commensurate with the size of your energy tank. In this scenario, you wouldn't allow users to sell these cards.

  • Yes, they need a nerf. I'd say mood should be returned to where it was at the moment you died.  That would make the card neutral as far as mood, as if you didn't die.

    Energy is harder. A free 10K or even 5K energy if they filled to 50% is really not balanced.  I'd suggest capping at 1000 energy, so the cards are very strong for new players who might have trouble restoring energy but not overpowered for players with big tanks.

  • I'd rather have something to improve the attractiveness of food than something that nerfs GOOHF cards - my energy right now is around 3600, and I go through a lot more energy than that in a day. But high-energy foods all stack at 12/per, which comes nowhere near filling up my tank, which makes them unappealing - I have an SDB filled with awesome stews, which I made back when I enjoyed cooking, but now I meditate my way to a full tank, or GOOHF it, or do some upgrade cards, or jump around a quoin land, or do a single street in the AL, or buy a new energy card, or whatever. Nerfing the GOOHF cards wouldn't make an awesome stew more appealing, though, because I can make more energy than an awesome stew meditating while crafting a single batch of something!

  • I'd just like to point out that I hardly ever get one of these cards now that I have upgrades other than quoin / energy that I can't afford. I think I got one in the space of a week. Perhaps they only come up so often for those who have all the upgrades, who I suspect are not in the majority?

  • I agree with geekybird. Those of us still 'growing' hardly ever get these cards (because we don't reshuffle / buy upgrades as often as those with high quoin multipliers / saved up iMG). 

    It kind of defeat the purpose of the card if it was meant to help the lower level players have a good time in Glitch...

  • I made it through all my lower levels without dying or needing a 'get out of hell free' card. Now I have a big enough energy tank that I usually have no need for food so the cards are way too convenient. I agree with the cards being nerfed or at least reconfigured. I would suggest a 50% refill (enough that you aren't pooped and won't become pooped quickly while trying to find food, out of consideration for lower level Glitches), and then the price for each subsequent card rises substantially. That way their value rises as your level rises, so the less you need the card, the more you have to work for it.

    I still think it's an all-too convenient short cut though. Like I said, I made it through my lower levels fine without the card.

  • I wish cards could be more common for newer players and less common for older players. I think mood should be restored to what it was before you died and I think energy should be a maximum of 500 refill. That way food will become more popular.

  • I agree that something should be done to make food more useful / appealing in game, and it does directly correlate to GOOHF cards , and huge energy tanks. What % or numbers or frequency the cards come up, all need to be adjusted, i'm just not sure HOW they should be. At least it seems we do agree that this aspect of the game needs to be reworked!

  • While I agree that the cards are an issue, I think it needs to be a part of an overall energy fix. To nerf this as significantly as some of you suggest without also making it (slightly) easier for those of us with huge tanks to refill in other ways, would suck. Hard.

    It would take some of us 3 or more full stacks of awesome stew to refill our tanks. That is just not practical. If you're using 2 get out of hell cards a day, that's about a half a bag of food (and about 1500 beans) a day.

    Here's to the great food revamp of aught "Soon"!

    You don't need to fill your tanks.  Why do you need a full tank?  I certainly think a full tank which is worth 3 stacks of awesome stew should be a hell of a lot more expensive than 25i... 

    You're right though, about some rethink about energy.  I have never understood why the energy upgrades are unlimited, it seems crazy

  • I do think the cards need more restriction as well.  Out of what's been presented here, I find myself most in favor of a cap to the refill amount.  I mean, when I was leveling we didn't have cards at all, I died a lot, and I still somehow managed to eke some enjoyment out of it.

    Also, we had to walk uphill both ways barefoot in the snow to harvest a single spice tree.  We liked it.

    They cost me 25i, my energy is 2520 - so that would suggest 1%, not 10%

    Maybe it scales already?

    This seems most reasonable. You can only die from "natural" causes once a day: you should only get a free ride out that one time, not the tons of other times a day you might kill yourself with No-No Powder or Wine of the Dead.

  • May I also point out that there's another significant free energy source: ancestral land combined with resource streets. 
    At this point we could teleport back to home streets for free from ancestral land, and the overwhelming nostalgia timer still decreases, allowing us virtually unlimited stay in AL. With most of the resources being available in home streets, and the ones in Ur technically doesn't require energy (feeding sloth/batterfly, or donating), one could have unlimited energy provided he/she found the energy quoins in AL, which is quite easy.

    This also made ancestral spirit potion redundant.

    This, in my humble opinion, is too easily exploitable. I vote for the nerfing of this too :) Maybe make it so that the overwhelming nostalgia timer stop decreasing.

  • I agree with the fixed enegry / % of mood for GOHF.

    As for nostalgia, perhaps a 50% reduction in recovery rate if on home streets. Still leaves it viable, just a little less so.

  • Shhexy: There are days when I go through 2 or 3 tanks. Some days I go through a quarter of a tank. It depends on what I'm doing... teleports use up a 1/10th of a tank on their own. With my tank, one teleport is a little more than 3 awesome stews. I'd kinda love to be able to shrink my tank, but when I was a broke little glitch (I have a shrine addiction), it was easier to just buy an energy upgrade than to buy food. Actually, even though I'm a not-so-broke little glitch, it's still easier... that's a problem.

    then the cards get you out of hell but you are on your own.

  • these were a bad idea.  Food occupies a large part of the skill tree, and is an attractive element for newer players - how many have open 'cafes', only to have them dashed on the rocks of the reality that nobody actually buys or eats food?   Then those players, who might stick around for quite awhile and buy plenty of pretend clothes, drift away.    I also do not think that expanding your tank should get you energy.  You expanded your tank.  That should be good enough.   Just reworking the recipes won't be good enough - things should be rebalanced such that people HAVE to eat, like it or not.

    ETA - Get out of Hell Free cards could get you out of hell with low energy (10%) and reasonable mood (25%)

  • I rarely get the cards, need to buy them.  I use them to fill up my large tank.  I also cook like mad, which is why I need refills :D  I love them and wish I could get them to come up more often.

  • Perhaps the GOHF cards should be non transferrable and only 'dealt out' to players below a certain level, like level 10 or so. They can help a lot for struggling new players but their existence really alters the strategy for more advanced players. Why eat at all if you can just bottom out, swing down through hell and tank up to full again?

    I believe I have 13 or so of the cards on hand ATM. This means they are obviously too common in the deals.

  • I don't mind not using the cards, I like them, it's definitely easier, and faster, but I'm equally as capable of downing butterfly milk and meat to get mself all back up to green...so what's the motivation to cook there? GOHF are convenient, well so is butterfly milk and milk, still no reason to cook.  I personally hate cooking in Glitch, and NEVER did it, not even before the GOHF because meat is so freaking handy.

    However, I definitely feel like maybe having them come up in the deal less often is fair, I have about 15 GOHF cards, I rarely die though.

  • Perhaps the real answer here is higher-end food items that yield a lot more energy/mood?  If high-tank players are relying on GOOHF cards because food isn't a practical way to fill their tanks any more, it seems to me nerfing the item that DOES work is exactly the wrong answer.

    Of course, I've gotta ask, if you have a 10,000 or 30,000 tank, what in Zille's name are you doing to drain 10,000-30,000 energy in a glitchday?  The only thing I can think of that could drain that kind of energy is teleporting with its flat percentage-of-tank cost.  (Am I missing something?)  So maybe a third approach here would be to offer still further reductions to teleport cost, or cap its cost altogether?

    Or, of course, players could just budget their energy use better....
