Trees Eventually Die

I would like it if the Trees in the world would have a finite lifespan.  Similar to the other things, they are consumed upon use (gathering).  I think it would give an interesting a more realistic feel to the game.  Sort of like how Wood Trees are, but not so easy to overharvest.

This way players could find empty patches or take up the job of being a planter without needing someone intentionally kill the trees with poison.

  • I like the part about providing empty patches without all this Tree War nonsense. But there's no reason that a Glitch who carefully tends to trees in their backyard, should be penalized by having them die off and needing to replant. My grandfather had a lemon tree in his backyard, and I'm fairly certain it had been there when my Dad was a child ... I was in my 30's when the property was sold, so it was there 30-60 years.

  • Wait, trees don't die on their own?  I knew that you could poison them, but I didn't know that you had to poison them.

That brings a whole new aggravation to the replacing of bubble trees in Bortola.

  • It was my understanding that if trees were not interacted with, they would eventually die on their own.  Does anyone know if that's been confirmed/denied by staff?  Of course, it's also quite improbable that any tree would go very long without being interacted with, unless you placed it in an empty home that you never visited.

P.S. What's wrong with bubble trees in Bortola?  I happen to like being able to fill up half a bigger bag with bubbles in one run through Bortola.  The only other options for that region are bean and fruit trees, and there's certainly no shortage of supply for either of those.

ETA: Sorry.  You can plant wood trees too.  But those seldom last very long.

  • Trees will eventually die if you do not tend to them.  However, it is a really long time.

With the number of people in the game the odds of a tree not being watered or hugged for many days in a row is rather slim.

I would think something on how the wood trees work, but not so harsh.  This way someone in their homes, with the limit of 2 harvests per day, would never overuse/kill of their trees.  However, those in the outside risk being killed.

A good example is like in Wakfu the eco system is a balance game between collecting and populating/planting.  One extreme or the other causes issues.

  • (off-topic)
Joojoo, I live in Bortola, and I noticed several days ago that some bubble trees in Bortola were being replaced.  Every so often, a bubble tree would re-appear where it belonged, so I thought other people who thought like me (that bubbles are a freaking cash crop!) were taking care of it.

Then, I went traveling for a few in-game days (ghost quest), and when I arrived back home in Bortola this evening, all of a sudden we have gone from having an amazingly wonderful number of bubble trees to having PRACTICALLY NONE.

I understand that we could have used an extra fruit or bean tree here and there, but I think we Bortolans need to find a balance.  We are the center for bubble resources, and I like it that way.  And I am posting something similar in the Homeowner's Association before I start another tree war, because I was REALLY ticked off when all I could find are bean trees.  If my fellow Bortolans too lazy to go to any of the Groddle's to harvest beans, that is NOT the fault of those of us who take advantage of our bubbly resources.

Gr, sorry for the off-topic rant, but I've been fuming about this for an hour now.  Hope that answers your question about my post, joojoo.

  • Shhh...let's not call it a "war".  It attracts extremists.  I'll quietly start bringing back bubble trees when I get back in game.
