Knocking Stranger

There was someone that was asking to see the interior of the house before making a purchase, which I found suspicious. Anyways, before I let him in I took everything out of my cabinet  since I was paranoid. He looked around and left.

My question is do they have access to the cabinet? I know that they can pick things up from the floor but I don't leave things on the floor anyways.

  • They cannot take things from your cabinet.

  • Visitors do not have access to your cabinet or garden. However, these people are mostly scammers who want to take your stuff off your floor. I would kindly direct them to the realty page - if they genuinely want to see the inside of a house, they can do it there.

  • Visitors should not have access to the cabinet...however, anyone you give a key to will.

And yes strangers knocking are sometimes folks looking to steal stuff from your floor.  Some are honest and really just want to see the inside (because you don't get a real feel for the inside of some locations from the realty pages - where doors are in the swamp or modern homes, etc.), but many are not, so best to be cautious.

  • Thanks for the replies!

Since I don't leave stuff on the floors, I don't have to worry about my stuff getting taken from the cabinet.

  • There are two model homes you can direct people too if they're looking for a more expensive model.

  • People with keys have access to your cupboard. I don't know about people who knock.

  • If you do let somebody in and they begin snatching items up off the floor you can quickly close the browser window your game is loaded in.  When you leave the game that way it immediately kicks any visitors in your house out to the curb.  It's a counter-intuitive thing to do because it seems almost like 'abandoning your house to burglars.'  But they get kicked straight out and won't be able to take anything more.

There are malevolent players who will go from door to door in residential blocks knocking on every door in the off chance someone will click 'okay' and let them in.  And it's fairly easy when you are out in the world and the request pops up in the corner to click the 'okay' button by mistake.  That's another time when closing the game window out to exit and revoke visiting permissions is a good practice.

And even when you have let an untrusted stranger in and it was uneventful, you need to reload the game after they have left before you proceed on playing the game.  You have no idea if they might come back for another 'visit' with less than honorable intentions.  Until you've exited the game,  your permission for them to enter your house is still valid.

It's a big world out there and there are glitchites who role-play with a less-than-honorable character.

  • Maybe that's why no one will let me see the inside of their house. I have no intention of stealing anything, I just want to see what other folks on my street do with the space. But alas, no one has let me come in :(

  • @Clover You may not have any malicious intentions, but it's not like we all have mind reading.

  • @Vinchon You're definitely right. Reading this forum post really did give me insight into why no one was opening their doors.

Maybe someone could host a house party with one of those party boxes? Anyone tried that yet?

  • That happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I was working in my garden, and I didn't know the person, so I didn't answer the knock. He went AFK outside my door for a long while. When I checked back later, he was gone.

I just thought it was strange that someone who didn't own a house on the block would be there knocking on doors.

  • If you are home when someone comes to knock, another thing you can do instead of letting them in as an unknown stranger is to simply step out of your home to see who it is.  They will be standing there at your door and you can strike up a good conversation.  You might make a new friend who you'll then decide to invite in.
