Is there a point to going out to the far far "deserts" besides ancient memories and extra "seconds" (don't know what those are for at all)?  I have not been to most of the far regions (aka beige or yellow lands) because there are no (1) ghosts, (2) vendors, (3) quoins, (4) trees, etc.   Am I missing something? I don't think there are even quests out there.  I can get Experience points, but all I'm doing is using up valuable energy walking the geometric grids.  Please enlighten me (my Rock was no help).

  • Lots of excellent quoins there.  Also the blue traps have prizes in.  (if they're lying down and grey someone already triggered them.)

It's important to try to stay away from other players in the ancestral lands, because another player passing through that street will likely have triggered the traps and collected the quoins.

(there are a few trees out in the savannah, including more paper trees than in other regions.)

  • There are achievements for dust traps and evading jujus, plus when I trip a dust trap I often get a pretty snazzy prize.  If you get on a "good" street, there are GIANT quoins (worth over 100 XP or mood points, or lots of currants or favor points).   I make a point of traveling to the ancestral lands once each time I play.

The extra seconds come in two flavors:
    1.  The ones you get from dust traps.  Those allow you to stay in the ancestral lands longer.
    2.  The quoins.  Those speed up learning whatever skill you are currently on.

eta:  once again caught in the net of slow typing.

  • No quoins?  The ancestral lands have super-powered quoins!  I regularly take a mid-day swing through there to max out my energy before another mining run.  For me the ancestral lands have always been a big energy gainer.

There's two types of 'seconds' in the ancestral lands - the items from the question-mark traps traps increase the length of time you can stay and hunt for loot in the ancestral lands, while the little clock-shaped quoins speed your skill learning.  Not sure which you're referring to.

But the ancestral lands also have pretty good rewards from the question-mark traps, which in addition to the energy and other high-powered quoins make them worth the trip - Awesome Stews, Lemburgers, Diamonds, Extremely Hallowed Shrine Powder, Focusing Orbs...

  • Chetmo-
I know of one quest that requires you to collect bits of mitochondrial DNA from those traps. Also, as Capybara mentioned, the ancestral lands are prime for solo treasure hunting. Just avoid the bandits...

  • Yep, the ancestral lands are great.  The trick is to turn up there at odd times of the day so that the quoins and traps haven't already been taken - I've found early afternoon UK time usually works as the Americans aren't crowding up the place, heh.

  • I like to activate spinach and run really fast through the Ancestral Lands.  I don't know why, but I get a kick out it.

  • Great hauls can be made from there especially if you also trip extra seconds or, even better, encounter the Bug that lets you stay as long as you like.  I go there to treasure hunt.  Prizes from the Traps are usually pretty good.  You can get anything from high energy foods to gems and the quoins are numerous.  You may also get a lot of paper.  The dust traps regenerate fairly rapidly but don't wait for them.  Jujus will usually steal from your first slot or bag so keep your valuables to the far right of your inventory.  Jujus will also announce what they are after, "I'm coming for your paper!"  If they are after my paper I sometimes stop and let the Juju have it.  Most of my paper came from the ALs.
