ENERGY - what skill eventually gives you Energy Points?

It would be great if you could grow things in your garden, and - upon eating the harvest - gain Energy. But I don't think that happens with gardening. Is there a skill that has an end product that can be eaten, drank, rubbed on, etc. to give you more energy?

  • Oops. Misread.

Anyhoo, yes, if you garden you can eat veggies raw and get energy (it's just very low amounts of energy). If you learn cooking, you can cook meals for gaining energy (more energy per meal than per veggie) or drinks to boost your mood (and some energy).

If you mean raise your energy tank maximum, then that's done by upgrade cards, not skills or things you make.

  • Ah, okay ... Upgrade Cards. Say ... I was searching the web, and I read that there is a Tutorial for this game. Is there one?

  • I can't think of a commonly accepted Tutorial that someone has put together.  The wiki is still only half-updated from the imagination switch.

If you are looking for ways to make energy then lots of skills will fit the bill.  Growing crops, nibbling piggies and cooking food all return more energy than you put into them.  Without the skills the returns can be quite small (an in the case of cooking you can't even do it) but with the skills it can get quite large.  And of course Meditation returns energy without any inputs.

  • The tutorial is what you went through when you first signed up and started playing (I remember you mentioning in another thread that you got your invite from someone recently). It taught the basics and should have led you to Gentle Isle where you could explore until you were ready to make the leap into the real Ur.

ETA: Here is a link to some video of the tutorial that all new players go through: www.glitch.com/forum/genera...

  • You should have already gone through the tutorial upon creating your character. You talked to flamingos and wandered Gentle Isle, sound familiar? The tutorial does not cover all aspects of the game. This is a game meant to be explored, experimented with and its social, so ask question. Live Help channel is especially good for that as well as Global chat.

  • When people refer to a tutorial, they mean the first phases of game play, where you are taught certain basic things, and which has been made new for the invitation re-opening. So, you go through it automatically.

When you level or acquire certain skills or meet certain things in the world, you'll often get quests which serve mostly to teach you how to use your new skills - say you get a crafting skill, then you are given the task to get yourself a tool and craft some of the things you can now make. As your abilities progress while you play, I don't think anyone could design a tutorial that could teach you about everything in one go.

  • Good places to check out are the encyclopedia or the wiki.

  • Oh, very well. No real manual. I did go through the tutorial but it teaches only bare-bone basics - not even "Basics 101."

Thank you all for the advice. I'll just continue to slog my way along, leaning heavily on the good folks who help me in the Help chat room.

  • I looked at your skills and looks like during the tutorial you probably picked light green thumb or perhaps cooking.

Both are great skills! Though not great right when you start out, especially cooking as everything you need has to be harvested or bought. Or maybe especially light green thumb as it produces no energy.

I'd suggest you either learn Animal Kinship or Arbology next. That way your interactions are far more profitable in terms of energy in and out.

Even without those skills nibbling and petting a pig is a net gain energy.

--when I started I landed in the swamps and walked my way over to the mines. I sympathize with the horrible energy situation. You'll grow out of it soon enough.

As a tip, when you 1st shuffle cards, if you have an energy card, wait till you're almost dead or when you resurrect to buy it. It'll fill up your tank.

  • Thank you. All that you wrote is very helpful and I will copy and paste it into a doc.

Just another note: I cringe when my character has to squeeze a chicken. I'm not the squeamish type, but the thought of squeezing an animal in order to get something out of it makes me want to run away. Would be nice if the cue said, "Hug the chicken." Oh, well. That's just me. I'll pretend it says, "Hug the chicken."

    :-)

  • Welcome Ann....you will find that the "Devs" have a sense of humor.  Some things you might cringe a bit but most things your family and friends will think you've lost it cause..at least I laugh out loud....they (my family) are ready to send me somewhere to get well.  Again, welcome.  Just remember to try everything and you can't do anything wrong...if something gets stuck, refresh..always a good option.

  • All great advice!!  I'd like to add...

When the game day is nearing end/renewal, don't eat anything.  If you can hold out, the day change over will refresh your energy and your mood.

    Have fun!!

  • Squeeze can mean hug too, I think! Or! There has been a theory that the grain is lodged in their feathers - so maybe we are just squeezing enough to move their feathers around a bit and not squeezing their bodies too hard :)

(I have had practice, not with Glitch but in other areas, with reframing things for myself :) )

  • Squeeze! and yell out CHICKEN BUTT!

See, seems so nice now...giving dem chickens a free butt massage. Also, at some point some chickens say they like it :)

  • Heh Hee Hah Hoh! So funny!

I am pleased to announced that FIVE experienced Helpers helped me for at least two hours today. They TALKED to me and explained things, and GAVE me things that would've taken hours for me to make. Now I feel much more calm about the game. I no longer glare at my character and say, "I hope you soon run out of energy completely!"

So many great tips! Thank you, thank you, THANK you!

  • Glad to hear it! :) I hope you continue to have a lovely experience!

  • You should try running out of energy completely, actually.  Do it while someone's around if you can.
