Off on a pilgrimage! (Completed!)

After too long not leaving house routes except to port to Cebarkul to sell my wares, now that I've finished my icon collection I'm leaving my home to journey across Ur on a pilgrimage to eleven spots I've selected as being symbolic of each giant.

Starting from Toisi Trappings in Bortola, where I had my first house, I'll wander around Ur taking in the sights and sounds, and meeting new Glitchen, while eventually heading to each of the following locations to place a note to honour the giants:

Alph: Tallish Crest, Groddle Heights. Groddle was one of the first regions to be created, and the giant of Creation deserves a spot at the tip-top of it. ✓
Pot: West Spice, Ix. A great place for any budding cook, and full of allspice to make excellent dishes. ✓
Zille: Jangi Elations, Ilmenskie Deeps. The lowest point in all of Ur, surrounded by the rocks and gems of Zille's creation. ✓
Spriggan: Atrove Grove, Roobrik. Where the trees grow high into the sky. ✓
Tii: Vekke Vets, Callopee. Full of rocks for admixing and element creation. ✓
Humbaba: Groddle Forest Junction, Groddle Forest. Groddle's a great place for animals with its lush scenery and beautiful flora. ✓
Lem: Jutuan Central, Chakra Phool. An important stop on the subway route, fitting for the giant of travel. ✓
Mab: Kipacre Greens, Groddle Meadow. A community garden, which are unfortunately not well-travelled since the housing update. ✓
Friendly: Somewhat Sump, Shimla Mirch. Where Glitchen gather every Zilloween to hand out gifts! ✓
Cosma: Fervor Tack D, Xalanga. The Giant of meditation needs a spot far out of the way, in a land rich with history and myth. ✓
Grendaline: Kymi Abyss, Chakra Phool. The deepest spot in the firebogs. ✓

I've also taken off my hat for the first time in months, and have switched out my fancy clothing to simple pilgrim's rags. Perhaps I'll see you on the road!

  • Day 1: Starting from Toisi Trappings in Bortola, detoured to the Bureaucratic Hall in Andra, then went to Xalanga to place a note in honour of Cosma.

Day 2: Starting from Piyaz Prone in Kajuu, where I was kicked out, I wandered around Kajuu for  a while before deciding to make my way to Callopee. Killed a lot of time mining and got a nice hoard of sparkly to donate. Upon arriving in Vekke Vets, I was amazed to find that the entire street had been taken over by a giant dragon! I placed my note and set off on my way.

Feel free to check out my scenic snaps!

  • Day 3: What an exciting day! Starting from Vekke Vets, I donated my musicboxes and hit level 30! Then I wandered around Pollokoo and found by fourth piece of DNA. I then detoured to Tamila for no particular reason and found my fifth piece of DNA (wow) and an enchanted forest! Then decided to go towards Groddle Heights, and while still in Tamila found my sixth piece of DNA (WHAT)...just after leaving Tamila I found number seven (oh come on)...
Wandered through Alakol, resisting the temptation to mine every single metal rock, I at last reached my destination, found my eighth DNA there (WHAAAAAAAAAT) and placed a note to Alph.
I'll go around Groddle Heights before packing in for the night, since I've not explored it much.

  • I love this...hobbit like - can't wait to read your next diary entry :)  If possible would love it if you could recreate your route on a note(s) I'd certainly pay 500c for a road map to honour the Gods also : )

  • Wow! What an amazing idea!

I wish that each of the giants had a special shrine, something really elaborate and awesome. I wish that we could have rituals and special clothes to wear at these shrines. And maybe special musicblocks with the sacred music for each shrine. And we should have special feast days for each of the giants too.

El Camino, The Way, a pilgrimage is the perfect introduction to all of this. We have so much to learn about the giants and this sounds like a great way to get started.

  • Well a few of the giants have special clothing (Cosma has a whole outfit, and there are Friendly smocks) and special days like Zilloween, but generally it's a bit ambiguous, which might be a good thing.

  • Day 4: I wandered around Groddle Heights until I eventually found the last seam street and got GH Completist! (I won't be doing this for all the regions, I just figured I would for GH because it's a small region.) By the time I'd finished, the street spat me out in Mossystep, Groddle Forest. My inventory was pretty full by this point from all the nibbling and milking I'd been doing, so I stopped to donate some stuff. Groddle Forest is really bright and beautiful, and I gotta hand it to the devs for making it look so great. The street names are really interesting, too. Anyway it turns out there are whole streets under the ground (and they aren't anything secret either, but there are quite a few egg plants).
I followed Willow Moo into a mysterious vortex and found myself in Snool, which is a really weird Seam Street. Some wandering later I was nibbling some piggies and accidentally found a key - which wiki said was yet another seam street! It spat me out a stone's throw away from GFJ, so I placed my note to Humbaba there (on top of a tree, because there were people around and I'm anxious like that).

It's late, so I'm going to sleep now. Not working tomorrow, so should have plenty of time.
(I really need to empty out my inventory...)

Thanks for all the support guys, I didn't expect this to take off as it did! Also I am drowning in friend requests, which is probably a good thing. You're all awesome! :3

  • Day 5: Starting from GFJ, I travelled across Groddle towards Kipacre Greens, and met with the Rube! I traded him a Rich Tagine for my Crabato Juice (I never use those anyway) and moved on. Took some time to admire the flowers. After placing my note to Mab, I still had plenty of time left ('twas a short journey) so I decided to ride the subway and see where I ended up. Gregarious Grange, the closest subway station, is an interesting street, with a Bureaucratic Hall and an abandoned apartment! I explored the apartment for a while, but found little of interest (although I do love the elevator music, and I wonder how the chickens manage to ride it up). Six giants to go and I was in no hurry. So I left the game running for a while on the subway to read some Let's Plays and got off when I finished, ending up in...
Jutuan Central! Well I wasn't about to put down a note here just yet, taking the subway was quite a big shortcut and I didn't feel like I'd earned it. So I decided to walk to Somewhat Sump instead and get Friendly done. The bogs were a nice change of scenery anyway and it was cool to wander around them again. The jellies were a nice bonus too and the music is groovy.
I learned a new word from the egg plants today! Desideratum.

So of course tomorrow I'll be going BACK to Jutuan Central, but I'll walk to Kymi Abyss first.
After that I've only got a few more to go. I don't know what I'll do after all this is over! Perhaps try to finish off the exploring badges. Or hold a party!

  • Day 6: Starting from Somewhat Sump, I wandered around Shimla for a little before heading over to Chakra Phool. I met a wandering gypsy on the way who gave me four Awesome Stews - how nice! Boy am I glad that I decided to take the long route, because I found DNA number 9!

I pondered leaving my note to Grendaline here instead, since it seemed more fitting, but decided to continue with my original plan.
I made it to Kymi Abyss without much happening and placed my note to Grendaline there. From there it was just a quick walk to Jutuan Abyss, and again nothing happened on the way.

So now only Zille, Pot, and Spriggan are left, and they're all fairly spread out (all according to plan, I didn't want too many close to each other). Where should I go next?

  • Day, uh, 7: Hopped on the subway to Uralia ('twas only one stop, and I didn't want to walk all the way there again) and had to wander through Cebarkul, meeting a whole slew of strange Glitchen. Stopped into Uncle Friendly's for a spell to see if I needed anything, but to my abject horror he wasn't there!! But then he was - must have been a lag issue. I didn't end up buying anything, so I set off back to West Spice. I made a quick donation and hit level 31! But it seemed a sad waste, because the new day was forthcoming! I quickly sang to some butterflies and made some saffron. The day was saved!
I saw a few Glitchen on a slide, so I went up and joined them. We played music and shared random kindness.
After some time I decided it was time to leave, so I went to West Spice and placed my note to Pot. Since Ilmenskie was nearby, I decided on Zille as my next destination.

The Ilmenskie Caverns is pretty familiar territory for me. I have one of my teleport points set there (although I should probably change it, since I have one in Cebarkul as well and that's pretty close) since I used to mine a lot of sparkly. This time though, I had to resist the urge to mine every rock, else I'd never get to my destination! I did end up mining one rock which already had a chunk taken out of it. I remember way back when people would camp the keys to AB constantly, but now there's nobody there at all. There hasn't been a key there the last few times I've come though, so I guess someone comes by every so often to swoop it up.
There really wasn't anyone around in the caverns, so I placed my note to Zille and went on my way.

Now only Spriggan remains! I'm not one to shy away from a challenge by teleporting there - where's the fun? Luckily Uralia and Roobrik aren't too far, so it shouldn't be too hard. Onwards!

  • Day 7 (cont, because getting all this done within 7 days is SUPER): I ran into a slight problem on the way. Y'see, the Ilmenskie caverns aren't really made for going up as much as they are going down. And my map insisted I somehow fly straight up the Other Drop. I had no other choice but to go around. A lot of climbing later and I'd finally reached the surface. I had to go through GFJ, so I took a while to grab some quoins.
While wandering through Chakra Phool, I found DNA number 10!
I bounced around collecting quoins through Balzare and Roobrik until I finally reached my destination. I placed my final note here, adding a small thank-you to everyone who supported me.

Now the journey's over and I've gained a newfound wonder for the beauty of Ur. What's next on the horizon?
I don't know, but by a hilarious coincidence, it's my birthday tomorrow and I'm turning 21.
Time for a house party I guess!

  • You've never flown straight up the Other Drop? All it takes is some spinach and levitation.

    Congrats on your venture!

It's inspired me to plan a journey of my own. UR is beautiful and perhaps more Glitchen will get of their a.... er, home streets and come back to the wide world :)
