An experiment in filling up my bags!

Inspired by this, I decided to do something similar.

Last night, I emptied out all the bigger bags I could, bought a few more to fill up all my slots, then stowed a few items in my last bag:

My Fancy Pick
My Irrigator 9000
A High Class Hoe
A Shovel
A Hatchet
A Super Scraper
and a Tinker Tool.

Later on, I realised that all the metal ore I was mining was quickly filling my bags and on the verge of ending my journey early, so I bought a smelter at a hardware vendor to smelt that ore down into plain metal ingots.

I started my journey in Wickdoon Mood thanks to a Teleport Script used with a token (so as not to waste my energy!), and from there I journeyed north to Groddle Heights, then back down to Groddle Forest, and finally into Shimla Mirch, Jethimadh, and then over to Chakra Pool, then ended with a teleport to Level 4 East, my favoured Tool Vendor, to start selling off my harvests.

My (self-imposed) rules for this journey were to:
a) Nibble, Squeeze, Milk, Harvest, Mine, and whatnot to everything I came across.
b) Only Meat would be eaten to sustain my energy.
c) All SWF blocks should be dropped as they are found.
d) All grain would be bundled
e) All metal ore would be smelted into ingots (added later!)

When I started out, I had 314,596 currants. I know a few currant quoins were grabbed through my journeys, and then 700 currants were spent on my smelter. When all was said and done, and all my music blocks, ore, ingots, chunks of rock, smelter, planks, milk, cloudberries, and remaining meat were sold off, I had jumped up to 376,945 currants; a gain of 62,349 currants in just a few hours of play.

I spent some time this morning (home sick from work) putting all of my gains in a spreadsheet so you can see what I ended up with. It must also be said that I have most skills, including Mining IV, AK 7, and most of the gardening skills.

Tree Harvests:
Allspice: 60
Beans: 1536
Bubbles: 1680
Cherries: 1356
Eggs: 492
General Vapour: 320
Paper: 10
Planks: 147

Animal Harvests:
Grain: 15000 (baled into 60 Bales of Hay)
Butterfly Milk: 1116
Meat: 2368 (of which 1708 was eaten during my journey)

Mining results:
Chunks Beryl: 517
Chunks Dullite: 372
Chunks Sparkly: 358
Chunks Iron Ore: 2763 (which was smelted into 552 Plain Metal Ingots, with 3 chunks of ore remaining)

Gems given while mining:
Pleasing Amber: 5
Ruby: 2
Sapphire: 3
Diamond: 1

Miscellaneous Harvests:
Barnacles: 53
Blocks of Peat: 156
Jellisacs: 19
Lumps of Earth: 13
Lumps of Loam: 2

Music Blocks collected:
BB-1: 7
BB-2: 2
BB-3: 1
BB-4: 6
BB-5: 1

DB-1: 10
DB-2: 1
DB-3: 7
DB-5: 1

DG-1: 5
DG-2: 3
DG-3: 3
DG-5: 3

DR-1: 2
DR-2: 6
DR-4: 8

XS-1: 1
XS-3: 5
XS-4: 2
XS-5: 4

That's 78 music blocks! Selling all of these to the tool vendor netted me a gain of 30,160 currants! If I had had no music blocks ever to begin with, I could have completed the BB collection this way! And apparently, chickens hoard the DB-1 block considering how many of those I got.

Food Items received:
Applejacks: 4
Berry Bowls: 5
Big Salads: 2
Cloudberries: 5
Eggy Scrambles: 5
Fortifying Gruel: 1
Fried Eggs: 6
Frogs-in-a-hole: 2
Hearty Omelets: 9

Birch Syrups: 10
Mild Sauce: 1
Oily Dressing: 1
Wicked Bolognese Sauce: 1

Crabato Juice: 1
Creamy Martinis: 5
Gurly Drinks: 7
Hooch: 3
Mega Healthy Juice: 2
Slo-Gin Fizzes: 2

I also received 9 Gameshow tickets from various actions.

So, my conclusion? There's a lot to harvest/mine/whatnot throughout Ur! Doing this did not take that long, especially when I was doing other things at the same time in other tabs of my browser, along with watching videos with my husband and eating dinner! And it was a lot of fun!

If I were to do it again, I would hit different regions, as this was concentrated mostly in the Groddles and the Fire Bogs. I'd love to hit the desert regions and get down into Ix. I would also forego mining and concentrate on animals and trees. Mining takes more energy, it seems, and that's why I was eating so much of my meat! Mmm mmm tasty meat.

So, I have no idea if this is of any interest to anyone but myself. But I had fun doing it!

  • It is definitely of interest to me! I would like to try this once I have a few hours of continuous play - I'll post here when I have a chance.

    Questions:
Did you use your game show tickets?
Were your bags filled when you finished?

I might eat the single foods and drinks to open slots for more of that meat!

  • @Kookaburra:

I did not use the gameshow tickets, but I'm going to now that I am done!

Bags were completely filled when I was done, but stacks were not necessarily full.

I had thought about eating the single foods as I got them, but I wanted to see how many and what I would collect otherwise. Eating meat was a lot easier to keep track of than writing down the various food items I got since there are so many that we can get as random drops during harvesting.

  • Thanks for posting this, and grats on reaching your goal! I did a similar thing yesterday, whilst finishing up a few area completionist badges and my DNA badge (huzzah!). I was amazed at how many items I gathered and how many currants I ended up netting (plus I saw some very pretty areas that I'd never been to before- I wish we could have vacation homes in Ur, I'd love to winter in the Fire Bogs).

  • I did something similar. I still haven't posted all of my results but the initial ones can be found here along with a listing of my relevant skills at the time.

Spoiler: Gathering in the Groddles rocked. Ajaya Bliss sucked (mining 4). Neva Neva wasn't as bad as Ajaya. Pollokoo/Callopee was better than the deeps. And the swamps were somewhere in the middle.

I would love to see others try, though I suspect the results would be similar. Still, nice to have more than one data set.

  • thanks for sharing-- did you have any problems keeping your mood up ?
I know from my own experience that i get better drops when my mood is within about 100 or less point of its max (ie very high) .

  • I would like to see this done with the modified guideline of eating all food drops as they appear and restricting the region covered to one 'land' - groddle, firebogs, etc.

  • Would add one thing to the list to keep track of - how much XP did this net you ?

  • I love gameplay strategy records like this. Thanks for taking the time to share it!

  • I look forward to doing this myself! I have to say that I squeeze a lot of chickens in an attempt to get my last two musicblock trophies (I need the DB-5 and the XS-4 and -5, I think.) I've been telling myself that they must be really rare. But no! I'm just really unlucky! (I've gotten BB-5, supposedly the rarest, a bunch of times.)

    Anyway, thanks for the data!

  • (I know I could buy them at auction, but what fun is that?)
