Selling Notes, fed up with tree war

(I tried to send this as a message... was too long).
I'm not going to target anyone here.
So today, I was finally exasperated at the tree war going on on Tuntsa Coze. I wrote two notes, one for each of the tree patches on the street. Because they are wet patches, there are two possibilities- spice or gas. Since we had one fully grown gas tree at the end of the street and I had accidentally poisoned the other tree, I decided that I would just replant a spice tree, as I wanted to retain an equilibrium. I petted the new spice tree and wrote a nice message asking people to please help to keep the total at 1 gas and 1 spice on our street. This way, everyone could get the supplies they need. I placed the two notes at the foot of each tree, and left to go do the things I had to do.
Later today, I was (for another reason) in the auctions page for notes. I was looking for something else, but I came across the very thing I had written earlier.
I know this is not against any rules, but please, have some decency! This selling only gets you 4 currants!

(Copy of the note)
Title: Peace, please!
I would like to beg for help- Save both the spice trees and the gas plants! We have two patches on tuntsa coze, so can we peacefully create an equilibrium with one spice and one gas?
Respectfully yours,Veia, resident of 3435 tuntsa coze
Thank you!

What do you guys think? Am I overreacting about the notes?

  • Many of the people who play glitch don't like being told what to do, even if they would otherwise agree with what is being asked.

Auctioning the note makes no sense.  They're worth 1XP at a shrine and that's about it.

  • Ha. Yeah. After the New Year's event at Unnu Slight, someone picked up all the notes that were dropped and attempted to sell them for 999c.

And it's fine if you're upset. But in Glitch, pretty much everything you drop on the ground and walk away from is fair game for people to pick up and sell. Regardless of what it is.

  • wow.. I live on that street and was totally oblivious to a tree war.    I think you're overreacting about the notes but it seems daft to have gone to the trouble of auctioning them unless it was in the hope that you would see it and be annoyed.

EDIT - the reason for the auctioning of your note becomes clear above - how cynical of me.

  • I guess its not so much as a... battle?
    Sindee, I saw that >.<
I'm not really mad. Just wondering why, and if that is common. Thanks!

  • WalruZ: Not specifically about the tree war, but I wish more people realized that it's okay to do what other people are asking you to do if you agree with the goals in the first place.  (Not excusing people being mean about asking though.)

  • I read your note, but since I've been harvesting there each game day for the last week or so and each time I've been there, there's been a gas tree on the right and a spice tree in the middle, I wasn't sure what war you were on about. Maybe it's one that happens while I'm asleep. Anyhow, I didn't take your notes, I just read them, went o_0 and carried on.
Personally, I've stopped caring that people take notes. The reason I don't care is because I don't need the stress. So it makes my life easier to just accept the fact that anything not nailed down could, and most likely will be taken and sold.

  • I saw your notes and sprinkled the spice tree with fertillidust. :)

On another note, try to have fun with it instead of feeling sad. There's no right or wrong way to play glitch. Make the most of it :) perhaps instead word your notes as happy happy. Eg look at this pretty spice, help me make it a majestic supplier of an amazing array of smells, tastes and cooking wonders.

  • I did some "Reasearch" and found who's selling the Notes. She/He....Lol. Is picking up Notes and selling them. I don't want to Name Names, so I'm gonna post her/His Profile and Auctions in here instead.
    (Loophole, huh?)
    Auctions:
    ---------Deleted, Sorry!

    Profile:

BTW, she's a Level 7. Give her a break. Lmao.

  • Tacos, I know who it is. I sent her/him a private message, because I didnt want everyone to hate.

    Nice Idea, Hen via ham.

That isn't a loophole.  Please remove those links.  They are just as much violations as posting the name.

  • It's the PERFECT loophole! Great thinking. I just bought the rest of her notes so she knows there's a market for them and keep on doing it! Yay!

  • Lol, Messy. I just Edited my Post, so know one knows who she/he is.

  • I bought the note, so don't go looking for it in the AH.  Oh, I am out 4c.  Ouch!

  • BTW, the OP is pretty new to the game as well.  So maybe we can cut everyone some slack, eh?

  • I'm noticing that there seem to be those who view Glitch as a cooperative game and those who view it as a competitive game.  I personally feel that it is designed to be a cooperative game and I choose to play that way.  However, there is much freedom to play as you wish.  For those who prefer to play it competitively, they are free to declare "tree wars" and assert their "right" to snatch herbs from under another player's nose.  :/
Many aspects of real life are mirrored in Glitch and trouble makers are one of those aspects.  Fortunately, I firmly believe that the considerate players outnumber the inconsiderate players.  And the note-auctioning / note-taking may just be a case of a novice player not understanding what sorts of actions are considered rude or otherwise unacceptable.  Having said all of this, I'd be a little irked, too.

  • It's okay, neighbor. If the trees are unbalanced, I will just kill one of them and replant. It gets me XP and I like killing trees more than I likely should.

  • I collect notes.  I don't auction them or buy them on auction, but i can't help picking them up when I see them.  The disappear eventually if they are left on the ground don't they?  I hate when things on the internet get deleted/censored/disappeared.

If you have got notes that have been left in public spaces don't auction them or give them to the shrine.  Send them to me, I'll archive them.   Don't forget to say where you found them, and a bit about the context.  If you don't want to pick them up then send me a link to a screenshot.

  • i don't just want tree war notes and not those picked up to annoy the writer.  I just want to keep the notes safe from disappearing.   I don't want to pay for them because i don't want to create a market for fake notes.    If you do happen to be picking up notes as a form of griefing then please either store them or send them to me to store.
Posted 11 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "I just want to keep the notes safe from disappearing." .... uh, but you are making them disappear from where the writer intended for them to be.  They don't disappear eventually.  They stay there as long as someone else doesn't pick them up.

  • If you stop caring about the tree wars and who picks up notes, you'll have a heck of a lot more fun. Stop caring and you will see, it will continue on whether you are in the middle of it or not. Let it continue on.  Harvest the trees, leave notes and just go about your business.

  • Somewhat off-topic, but don't notes disappear after a certain number of reads (from the ground), or was that proven false?
Posted 11 months ago by Aoi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I thought they did too.  Just like cups of water

  • Why would anybody sell off as 'scrap' notes they had written?  If you have Penmanship and have written on pieces of paper, you have the full ability to modify and in fact completely re-edit the notes.  They are recyclable.

  • Being able to sell notes is useful for people who want to play with publishing in-game - arizoo's lovely UrZine is a great example, and I saw a note advertising a "publishing company" the other day.

However, selling other people's notes in this fashion feels icky and borderline in terms of CG. Perhaps it's the kind of situation that would benefit from an action where authors can "seal" notes that are meant for publication/distribution/sale, which prevents editing and allows them to be sold at the AH, borrowing somewhat from the mechanics of Glitchmas Cards.

(And I'm not sure if "stop caring" is the ideal attitude to promote. I can see the tagline: "Glitch: best if you don't give a fig.")

  • Notes do not have a counter and therefore do not have a read limit. This was confirmed by Araldia after the last note debacle.

Holy giants we have multiple note debacles now? *face palm*
