Subscriber Hearts

I've gone right off the subscriber heart against my name in forum posts. My forum posts aren't any more interesting, witty or relevant than those from non-subscribers (some might say less so), but the heart almost implies that those posts are higher priority than the others. Labels for staff makes sense, they generally are more relevant than us mere Glitches, but the hearts just seem like a distraction...

See what I mean? This post wasn't that interesting, witty or relevant...

  • I don't think the heart implies anything other than a love for the game of glitch and a way of showing that love by becoming a subscriber, or that the staff is showing love to the subscribers. I don't think it implies in any way that non-subscribers love the game any less, maybe they just don't want to get into the clothing or special sub only features/colors or are waiting to see what else credits will buy. Some glitch addicts have indicated they aren't subscribers due to the largish outlay of cash for a one time annual payment.

  • I'm with you RealJimBob :)

...Plus I'm not a pink heart type person lol  Maybe a black skull and crossbones.
Seriously though, I think it's kind of unnecessary to have anything on the forums to make subscribers stand out.

  • @Gizmospooky I was careful to say "almost" implies, you're right, it's not a strict implication, but it draws the viewer's eye in and makes those posts stand out more than the others. Hence "almost implies".

Really? I barely notice the hearts any more, in the same way that I hardly ever notice the "pro" badge on Flickr...

  • I like the hearts. Subscribers get very few "perks" as it is...

  • I am heartless, and don't mind. I don't feel second class or less notice-able (HEY ARE YOU READING THIS!!?!?!!)

Frankly, it's a pretty unobtrusive marketing tool and you can't fault a company for showing these obvious testimonials.

  • It's because TS loves us!

  • @RealJimBob - you are absolutely right, you certainly did say is "almost" implies but since I didn't think that was the intent of TS I wanted to tell you what I thought. I didn't mean to insult you or imply in any way that what you said was wrong, I just wanted to give a different point of view. I do agree w/Mac Rapalicious, it is a fairly unobtrusive marketing tool. I guess it implies to people considering buying a subscription, come on in the water is fine, see how many people think so.

  • Although I have a heart, I do not think that proves I love this game more than many others who do not have a heart.  I think that everyone playing deserves a Heart because we all love and support the game, each in our own way.

  • I guess I expected a teensy little G. But this is fine, too.

  • As long as they don't show the class of your subscription, fine by me :)

  • It took me awhile to figure out what the hearts meant. I am not a mouse-over kinda gal. I thought it was due to a ratings system I couldn't see. Once I figured it out, it melted away, as dopiaza said, like the pro-badges on Flickr.

  • I do notice the hearts, but don't think too much of them. I've been on other games and sites where subscribers get little stars and what-nots next to their names, and I've never once thought there was any sort of implication of social class separation between subscribers and non-subscribers, or that the posts of subscribers were higher-valued than the posts of non-subscribers. To me, they were just there.

    That's just my opinion though.

  • I LOVE MINE, TOO.

They're like clothes. They're not necessary in most cases, and they're they're simply for fashion and aesthetics.
