Performance stage/street.

Visual design: The street would be have a central raised stage, with "hidden" (behind walls or curtains) wings on each side. In front of the stage would be a "pit for the audience." The stage should be high enough that speech bubbles from the audience don't block the performers. (Blocking by jumping is fine because the stage has to be low enough that it is seen by people in the pit.)

How it would work/special features: A group would be able to rent the street for a specific date and time block. (I imagine would have to have a certain level of Bureaucratic Arts and would have fill out a bit of paper work but the interface for rental could be out of game, like the real estate pages.) This would require a group currant account. Another solution would be that an individual could rent it and then put names of performers on a list. This list is important. Only people on the list would be able to stand on the stage or the wings.

On an adjoining street, there would be a ticket booth. The renter can set whatever price they want (including free) and all door proceeds would go to the renter.

In my dream would, there would be a way to have chat panel that:
(1) allows people to view but not post in unless you are on the performer list.
(2) allows Glitchens to have different names so that you can have their charactrers' names.
But I wouldn't want this to replace the local chat (because the audience should be able to talk, yell, be groundlings as it were.

Best would be also a limited "sound board" interface that the renter can assign to a stage manager. Things like "show is starting fanfare" and "thunder" and the like.

Performers can stand in the wings to change costumes (tricky right now since you have to reload to have the costume reset... but still doable).

I will probably add to this.

  • I know! That is what inspired this one. :) But seeing that was in general, I thought this was better here.

  • +1 @Lord Bacon-o - you're right about posting location.  I'm relatively new here, though that's a poor excuse.  This is exactly the idea I was trying to get across.  You've fleshed it out, but you included the group rental idea, which was one I considered important, and the visuals are just about what I had in mind as well.

Stand-up, plays, and I'm hoping for a music skill tree branch soon too...

  • (oof. maybe I'm being terse today. want to make sure I'm not calling anyone out on anything. it's all love.)

  • As an avid player of games like DDR, Stepmania, Flash Flash Revolution, KeyBeatOnline and so on, I've love it if there was a minigame for this feature that determined how well your character plays their instrument.

  • Just redirecting from the thread mentioned at top. Some of @Lord Bacon-o's ideas I was already heading towards with my current project, but I like several of his ideas (actually all of them!). Unfortunately what I'm doing isn't part of the existing game structure so I wouldn't know how to do the ticket thing from my end. I could technically charge real cash - I could use towards site support, but I'm not sure how proper that is in this context.  Thanks for this thread, @Lord Bacon-o. I'll try not to threadjack it.

you haven't had to reload to reset costume in a long time.

also the costume switch is almost instantaneous if you switch to a pre-rendered outfit in your closet.

I did not know that! I hardly ever change outfits. I thought you'd at least have to change streets or reload. But that is excellent.

  • Thanks for that info, @striatic. Your own API work has been very inspiring to me and has helped loads in reducing my own research.

@Lord Bacon-o - Costumes can be changed as fast as the Tiny Speck servers can generate and send a new image set to the application. As @striatic said, the costumes in your closet are pre-rendered and are immediately available. Otherwise I believe the delay is up to two minutes. Your account is your changing room :)

  • Great to know. Again, I just assumed the game wouldn't initiate the change 'til a reload.

Props would also be great, but that is a whole other kettle of fish.

Also would like kettles of fish.

  • That would be up to the devs. It would really be nice to have this in regular Glitch. For my own stuff I can create all the props and stuff you want. I might even be able to insert Tiny Speck items that already exist, but I'm not sure about how TS would feel about that other than for personal use.

  • Yeah. It almost completely defeats the purpose to not have it in game. As with most ideas presented here. It's great to have side things that aren't in game via API, but it seems that the ones that will be most successful are things directed at mobile market. I mean, why enter go play on a mini-version with extreme limited use when you can just log on to the actual game? Maybe others feel different.

  • Love this idea, and would propose to have multiple locations like this in each region - maybe some as indoor venues, others as amphitheaters, etc.  They could be used for seminars, choral performances, and in time, band performances too...

Also would love group rental areas like picnic shelters, etc.

  • Karaoke bars should be added to streets too.

  • I'm kind of picturing the 'stage' in the middle, and fairly high-end bleachers on either side where you could see the people gathered and watching. Also, being able to emote-clap at the end would be a high for those who performed.

  • "I'm kind of picturing the 'stage' in the middle, and fairly high-end bleachers on either side where you could see the people gathered and watching."

This was my first thought... but there is currently no way to move focus off one's self. Your avatar is always center so there is no way to watch the stage unless you are right in front of it.

  • That's true. It'd have to change focus a bit for that area, I suppose- since performers don't perform without an audience, and an audience doesn't stay without performers. The 'bleachers' would have to be minimal- unless if it was split into a 'sideview' where you can hover your cursor to see the audience better (Performers) And the Audience with a larger view of their bleacher, a cut area for the stage and another minimal area for the other side- with hovering to enlarge the view again. Sounds a bit complicated. Unless if the bleacher area was one sided- curved for better Glitch-fitting and the cursor would enlarge each section of the bleacher as it was hovered over (something like how a Side-show mirror gets distorted with parts enlarged and others minimized.)

    Soz for the long post!

  • I'd love to learn singing or piano playing in glitch. Maybe it could be a sort of rhythm game type thing, when you're performing.
