They are trying to slow down the speed at which the projects are completed - we're unlocking new streets almost faster than they can be made, from what I understand! It looks like so far, the notes have been the best way to limit this speed, and so I'm guessing that they won't go away any time soon.
i like the notes - it is a skill not everyone has and its kind of cool.
also i like the idea that the projects go a little slower...gives you a chance to collect the items and go back adn still be able to donate.
Yeah, but I explained the problem before and Stoot said that they weren't going to do it anymore.
Loam is an EXCELLENT way to slow down projects, even better than notes IMO..
Its just that when they ask for notes, if I leave any notes on the streets, they are taken by project players in a nanosecond. And I need notes to make my own quests for my friends.
well, we do kinda have to work within the parameters of the game. although if stoot said they'd stop, then i'm not sure why he isn't honoring that (he must have a good reason).
as far as slowing projects... let teams of 10 sign up for them. that'll slow them down a titch. ;-)
How about slowing down projects by having a cap on how much any one individual can contribute. That way, we'd be forced to go recruiting more people to contribute and include newer players.
I realize people enjoy the competitive aspect of being one of the top contributors, but perhaps that could be calculated based on how quickly you reach your maximum contribution cap?
I'm new to Glitch (started this weekend) and I'm trying to understand...
I think notes are really cool and when I read about the way "The Puffs" were recruiting (loved the idea), essentially using existing mechanics to expand the game, I became really excited about playing Glitch. That is the kind of creativity that I love most about games. But am I to understand that players are encouraged to pick up notes to use as a kind of currency to buy in to projects? Which means if I wanted to find a clever way to use notes, I wouldn't be successful because my notes would be used for other purposes?
That's pretty much it, AJ Tsuki. Different projects require different resources, and a couple recently have required notes. It changes all the time, though, and I think if people are using notes in clever ways the game's creators with find ways to encourage that creativity. (they've already indicated exactly that in the case of notes, but haven't changed things yet, which is why Yaya got annoyed)
Well I hope, if that's still the case when I start leaving creative notes lying around, that people will at least do me the favor of reading them first. I can't blame people for focusing in on a task and finding the fastest way to accomplish it, sorta the nature of the game, but it seems to me that notes have a specific purpose, and that purpose is compromised when turned into a commodity. Oh, well.
Yaya they did say Stoot wasn't going to do it anymore and he meant it. I was in the New Streets group chat last night when about 1600 notes were still needed and Jdawg said wow that's a lot I thought we took notes off the tablet or whatever they use for projects materials. The intention was to take them off but it looks like for some reason they wound up back on, accidentally.
i like that the projects require notes. they litter the world and i usually pick up every one i see and donate it to a shrine or project. (ESPECIALLY if it's a spammy not i've already see 10 times or if there are 20 copies in one street lying down next to it.)
That said I'm sure there is a place for notes. Maybe the devs could create billboards next to each of the street signs or buildings / vendors / etc
people in the community reading the bulletin board could vote the order of the notes up or down and after a certain threshold of down voting or maybe just time, the note would be "released" and could be harvested?
@ixaeon thats the whole point of the notes! You cant do a publicity stunt of any sort without littering THE ENTIRE street. If you go by billboards its not really subversive and it won't generate enough buzz, it will only be read by people who regularly read billboards: BOREFEST.
they could put the billboard on the street loading page so everybody entering the street would see it and that would help put an end to the spammish litter
I don't participate in street projects anymore because I can't seem to be able to contribute. Oh I'm a level 20 with tons of high level skills, but since I'm just an individual, I'm shut out of contributing items by others unless I just happen to have some in my inventory when I get there. In the time I crafted a powder needed on on particular street, the quantity needed went from 75 to zero. So, despite my desire to help and contribute on these projects, I don't bother anymore.
Ideas to fix:
1) Make portions of the building project that people can reserve - i.e. contributing 10-20 metal bars and 50 units of shoveling; and not just a "contribute 500 chunks of beryl" task, but something with multiple requirements that need to be fulfilled. Also, require a lot more stuff to complete a street project. Also limit reservations to 5, that way no one person can hog a project. Would still count towards the "highest contributor" trophies, but would allow for more people to participate with a more realistic time frame.
2) Limit the street projects to a certain number of people and split the requirements evenly among the participants. Whomever finishes first "wins" the trophy. Have a lottery system to pick participants if there's more interest than space.
@ IxÆoN - Some of us are trying to do ARGs and other games/quests within the game and the notes are the only way we can communicate in the world at the moment. Picking them up and doing whatever with them and not respecting what others are trying to do is not cool. At least *READ* them first?
