We are back!

And it’s up!  The grand Imagination Conversion of ‘12 completed a few minutes ago.

Two big things in the game changed with this update: we’ve switched to the new Imagination system and overhauled the UI.

Glitches now have Imagination (iMG) instead of experience points (xp).  As you gain Imagination by playing, you can spend it on Upgrades (as well as expanding and cultivating your property … and other stuff, still to come).

The various Upgrade Cards do things like increase your brain capacity, add one-off improvements to skills you’ve learned, increase bonuses for activities in the game and even enable whole new capabilities. You can choose from 3 possible Upgrade Cards at any given time. You’ll be able to “re-shuffle” to see different upgrades once each game day.

We also reorganized and modified the game interface to streamline, simplify and better reflect these changes. Look in the upper left corner to check out the new energy and mood display, as well as the revamped “player menu” (just click on your pretty face). The iMG button next to it opens the “imagination menu” which is the new home for skills, upgrades, and moving back and forth from the surface world to imaginary spaces, like your house.

Of course, there’s a lot more detail than mentioned here.  If you want the nitty-gritty, check out the FAQ! http://www.glitch.com/help/faq/#imagination

So get in game and check it out.  We love reading your feedback and be sure to let us know of any problems you encounter.

See you in game!

---------

Q: Where is the keyring?
A: It is disabled temporarily; it will be back in the game, but not right away.

Q: The new growl messages (explanation/notification text at the bottom of the screen) are bugging me!
A: We are still working on the final design for this, but they will bug you a lot less soon anyway, since a large number of them will just stop showing up and go straight to your activity log (e.g., almost all animal interactions, since those already give you feedback via talk bubbles).

Q: I see random XP notices here and there!
A: We haven't taken all out yet, but we've got most of them cleaned up. If you see something else, go ahead and open a case and we'll be sure it's on the list if it isn't already.

  • Will there eventually be an in-game display of all the cards in one's deck? The page linked from profiles is very helpful but unfortunately lacks the awesome visual representations of each card.

  • Hmm, I do have one question.  Among some of my first Upgrade Cards, I got "Super Animal Harvest II" &  "Super Animal Harvest III".  I went ahead and bought  "Super Animal Harvest III" first.  Is this a bug or is that correct behavior?  Is there any benefit from owning both or does  "Super Animal Harvest III" work the same even if I skipped  "Super Animal Harvest II"?

That said, I'm enjoying the imagination set up :)  (Even if I bought to many energy upgrades just so I could get a new upgrade card, haha)

  • Having been level 60 for awhile now, I really appreciate what went into this changeover.  I feel like I'm "doing" things again.  And after a crazy upgrade spree, my glitch is actually "better" than before the switch.  Now I get to go out and explore again, and earn more imagination while I do it to get ready for housing and keep getting more upgrades.  Personally I love the way this new mechanic is working out and I like that it captures the feel of wonder and enjoyment that comes with JUST DOING things in the world of Ur that can be lost when you were maxed out level-wise.

  • Found another little xp bug - when you disperse elements to the world, the growler says you gained xp, rather than iMG.

  • I'm confused about the quoin multipliers cards. I find the wording to be a bit deceiving. For example, when purchasing 50% increase, I would expect a 10x multiplier to become 15x (and that would be fair for the high price), but instead I gain 0.5, only 5% more. I purchased several of these before realizing what I was actually getting. Perhaps this could be explained more clearly in the card description?

  • I'm sure it's been discussed but I don't want to have to read ALL the posts on all the updates.

Is the nearly invisible energy level going to stay that way from now on? I'll be accidentally dying quite often now I'm sure, with the way it is.

  • Love the new imagination/card system, makes the game a lot better. But the one reshuffle per day seems a little frustrating to me.

If I get three cards that I'm not interested in, or don't want to pay for, I have to wait a long time just try again. And the same thing might just happen in four hours. So obviously the fastest way to see more cards is to just buy things I'm not really interested in, which is just a waste of iMG. For the discriminating player that doesn't want to "waste" iMG, this is kind of frustrating. It's also a little bit of a hassle for the sporadic players who just play once per week or so.

I think it would be fine in the 2-3 per game day range. Just twice per day would be a huge improvement. If you want to use the current system and just increase the cost to the player for additional reshuffles, I think that would be fine.

I also think it would be fun to have a NPC that allows you to get an extra shuffle. This would increase the cost to the player in terms of time/effort but give them an opportunity to see more cards if leveling up skill cards is what they are interested in doing during one particular game day. Overall I prefer the NPC idea because it adds another fun activity and place to visit in the game.

Maybe you could put him in a "secret" location such as the Missing Floor where you walk through an unseen portal and you end up in a small room or a back alley.

    Possible NPC ideas:
Shady carnival worker, three card monty hustler, gypsy psychic, bored wizard

I'm going to add this to the idea forum in case others are interested in chiming in.

  • @Mermaid Yes!! The wording on the quoin multiplier cards was frustrating! I expected to double as well not get another point.

Actually, the wording on a lot of cards are vague. Like "Spicy Times", and the other tool use cards, "Boost your ability with the Spice Mill so you can earn Imagination when using it."

I already get Imagination when using it.

It doesn't reduce energy cost, it doesn't give a % bump per use, is it like a super harvest? an occasional dollop of iMG? Tell me what you do! /rant at card
Posted 7 months ago by M<3tra, obviously Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It is an occasional dollop of extra iMG. But I agree, it was very vague, and I originally thought it meant I didn't get any iMG from using things until I got those cards.
Posted 7 months ago by Mr. Quiet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That was my impression, too. I'm glad it's extra iMG instead of iMG period.

  • Montooli, everyone's level has been reduced.  But, your character is still effectively the same level as it was before, it's just been assigned a new number, and you have more levels ahead of you now!  It's all very exciting, rather than scare, if you consider it.

  • Ok... now I'm REALLY confused. So I had a 40 day learn time on Gardening V, right? I just bought a brain capacity upgrade today (+3 I believe it was)... and three days were ADDED to the learn time! Is there something else at play that affects learn time now, or is something going screwy?
Posted 7 months ago by Aeralis Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Aeralis | . Ohh Gawd that sounds awful..I swear I never (well hardly ever) complain..but I am SO glad I have all the skills already...even if I do have to spend all my iMG on upgrading them... {unfair :( } Still its gotta beat spending 40 days learning something ..then buy something you thinks gonna help..to find you got another 3 days added on...ughhhhh!!!!!
Posted 7 months ago by Cryztal Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @aeralis I think something's going screwy!

A similar thing happened to me earlier when I purchased a learning speed update. I posted about it in bugs. I saw stoot mentioned somewhere there's a new skills page coming soon so perhaps it will shake down then?
Posted 7 months ago by geekybird Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Carl Projectorinski, it sure doesn't feel like the same level, getting less than half the value I used to get for quoins, and having less energy, and having all of my skills reduced. I know this update will be better in the long run, but right now....notsomuch
Posted 7 months ago by Mrs. Peacock Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Mermaid: you have enough imagination to upgrade your character to a *higher* quoin multiplier, a *larger* energy tank and more powerful skills. We could have automated all that for you, but then you wouldn't have anything to do.

I must say that I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the qurazy quoins so much and everytime one comes up (especially if it's not a new street and it's unexpected) I get super excited! They got me exploring some places I had never gone to and hadn't planned on going to and I got the DNA achievement last night finally last night thanks to looking for qurazy quoins :)

  • I think the description on the coin multiplier upgrade cards need to be changed.  Say you have a coin multiplier of 15, and you purchase a card for a 100% upgrade.  Mathematically, that would mean that your new multiplier would be 30 (15 + [15x1] = 30).  What actually happens is you get an increase of 1 multiplier unit.  This should be stated on the cards.

Also, the prices for these are ridiculous.

  • I only asked for a little notice.  I have no idea what is going on - a confusing time in rl and I signed on to feed my piggies and the world is upside down.  I get emails about finishing skills and many other things.  It would not be that hard to email us alpha testers the world is changing now.  I was only out of the game for 48 hours - and I am not sure I have the energy now to deal with the changes.  Just my opinion.

  • The upgrade cards are a really fun mechanic and I feel like I got a very generous amount of iMG in the conversion. It's a great to have my actions in game feel like they are "useful" again; it's been a long time since I stopped getting XP. I also really like the Qurazy Quoin as an incentive to explore Ur (and they are really fun looking.)

The only thing I don't love is the interaction for opening bags, but it sounds like that is already being addressed. Seriously, everything else I love!

  • I can't see my concern addressed anywhere- or perhaps I"m being obtuse- but is this how it works? As a lvl 34 (in xp) with most skills, I thought I had the same abilities as a lvl 60, at least in terms of harvesting, mining, nibbling etc But now I have heaps less iMG to spend than the lvl 60,  so can I afford to re-buy the abilities I had before the change-over? Halp!
Posted 7 months ago by mince Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The difference is that the extra XP that people earned going from 34 to 60 gave those people more imagination to spend.  It took more than twice as much XP to go from level 1 to level 30 as it did to go from level 30 to level 60.  All that extra XP (ie, more than twice as much xp as you had) got turned into more than twice as much imagination than you have.
Posted 7 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yep, you can afford it.
Posted 7 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But, apparently, you got at least enough to buy everything back.  stoot knows the numbers.

  • I like alot of the things about the changes )the nicer UI , the fun crazy quoins (would like a growler noise for the coins like others here and would like the faded things to be clearer like the buffs) . BUT here is what I DONT like (cross posted to ideas) -
YES to what haze said above!!
I really, really dont like being basically forced to buy cards i dont want, in order to be able to get to new cards , OR instead forced to wait for a new day (i cant play in such a way that I 'm online for the majority of the new days in a 24 hour RL day !) ....
This frustrates me , as I dont want to waste imagination on cards i dont want.
If the point was to be able to "customize" my glitch---- then this "mechanic" for doing it is very frustrating -as I am NOT able to customize how i wish -but am bascially forced to buy cards I dont want (as thereby adding customizations to my glitch that i dont want) . grr.
I dont mind the card system concept in general -but it needs improving imo.
PLEASE devs consider making a change or 2 . !
Maybe allow us to pay img to get reshuffle cards .... or something ...
ALso dont like being presented with the same card repeatedly in a close time span- makes it seem not so random and its annoying a bit. ...
but thanks TS for all your hard work - I admire the hard work and skill even for the parts that i dont personally enjoy ! ;)

  • Pretty pumped about the changes.  Imagination is a very satisfying thing to have/spend/look at.  I was really into Glitch about six months ago, had sort of given it up, and now I'm hooked again.

I'm constantly impressed with the Gltich team's understanding of games and fun and humor, and you've created something really wonderful here.  Keep improving it and exploring this medium.

    Thanks!

  • I haven't been able to play much since the change- and i still don't understand a lot of it, but i like it so far. I love the idea of earning imagination and the changes will make things more interesting again. The thing that keeps me coming back to this game (besides the little faces the piggies make when they turn to look at you...I love that SO MUCH) is that it is ever evolving. The art work, the game mechanics, the world and the people make this something I want to invest time and money on.

  • I have a quick thought/question thing.... So...
I've been seeing posts on people trying to get their stuff back up to where it was before iMG hit (mostly working towards getting those mining cards. Which im also wanting as soon as I can play as ots my fave pass time) but they but have said they have spent over a million iMG doing so. That scares me. A lot. A whole lot. Considering before the conversion I was only at lvl 30 and got a little over 240k iMG. Does this mean I'll have to earn a million (faints) iMG before I can get back to where I was in the game? =( that's a pretty scary huge number.... idk. I'm nervous and I wanna know as much as possible before I get in game tomorrow and all the insanity explodes my heart like a wittle bunny wabbit =/
*edit- I just saw where mince said basically the same thing I was thinking (oops on my part) and stoot said that yes we could afford it... But but but how? If me and another level 60 had all the same skills and stuff and they got quintuple the iMG I did and they've spent a ton of theirs getting their hard earned skills back... How can I with my small quarter million? :-S im so confussseddd
Posted 7 months ago by Clickadee Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Clickadee - The folks who spent over 1mil Imagination (as far as I can tell) did so in order to level up everything they could RIGHT NOW. If you are more patient, spend your Img on the cards you really want (vs. all of the ones you could have) and try to focus on the skills you want maxed NOW you can spend WAY less than 1mil. I have spent about 200k and am fairly happy with all of my upgrades so far. I don't have everything maxed but what I have gained is pretty good. I will spend more as new, better (read: more intriguing) cards come my way but I'm in no rush. I had gotten to almost level 52 before the conversion and had had all of the skills for quite awhile. If, for now, it takes me longer to mine, so what? I'm having crap tons o' fun playing again :)

  • well, generally quite confused, and i miss the magic rock. http://www.glitch.com/help/faq/#q160 says that it is in quest log, but i dont see it.
Posted 7 months ago by Kristabel Subscriber! | Permalink
  • well, if u can spend img, does that mean level can drop?
    i dont exactly get this.
Posted 7 months ago by Kristabel Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @foolbunny- well I mean.... Dont we deserve enough imagination to get all of the skills leveled to where they were previously... Since ya no we already earned them? I understand not just handing us all the cards and saying here! U have zero imagination now but u have everything (haha) and I like they are letting us choose but.... =( lol. I can't say I love it yet as im yet to be able to log in game (time not tech issue) and yeah. Adjusting... Slowly....
@Kristabel- from what I understand you have a running total of all imagination earned to the point you are in the game. Then you have a seperare total of which u can spend. If you didn't spend ANY imagination these totals would be the same. If you did the spendable would show less than the total determining you level which will nvr go down only up. So you can't start at level 25 then spend 100k iMG and go down to like lvl 15 or something. =P
Posted 7 months ago by Clickadee Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Clikadee--It really is about patience. Many people who spent a million iMG were/are buying cards they do not really want in trying to get the cards they DID want.

Someone on my update just posted getting 96 spice from a single tree with the super-dooper harvest, which is certainly better than the super harvests of before

If you're really worry about budgeting just think of what you enjoying doing most in game right now and wait for a shuffle instead of buying "junk" cards.
Posted 7 months ago by M<3tra, obviously Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Clickadee - I hear what you're saying and yes, to a degree, I concur - but think of it this way: All of the imagination you have is what you would have earned (and likely spent) getting to the point you were prior to conversion had the game always been this way. So, now (and this is the part I am really enjoying but can clearly see is not the case for everyone) that the game has been switched you GET TO CHOOSE what to spend all that pent up imagination on! You were given certain freebies based on your previous gameplay but now get to be SELECTIVE about where that imagination goes! It's win-win! Course, some see it as lose-punishment, but I like the game too much and am having so much fun I prefer the former viewpoint :)
Posted 7 months ago by foolbunny Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you're really worry about budgeting just think of what you enjoying doing most in game right now and wait for a shuffle instead of buying "junk" cards.

Or have a limit that you will spend on "junk" - if you keep spending your reshuffles on getting rid of an upgrade you don't fancy,  but it only costs 350img, well,  just buy it... that's better than getting the card over and over again. (This is probably only relevant as we're spending our imagination mountain)
Posted 7 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @clickadee Don't worry, honest! Some of the folks who've spent over a million have spent, say, 100k img in one go buying large energy tank upgrades which won't apply at your level. In other words - it costs more a lot more img to get back to the equivalent energy tank / quoins etc of a higher level. Also, for now you can skip the expensive brain capacity upgrades if you already have the skills you want and don't need to speed up learning times. Just keep re-shuffling when you can and buying the lower value upgrades and you'll soon skill back up.
Posted 7 months ago by geekybird Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't know how you do it, Tiny Speck... the imagination system/interface is stellar.  I repeat (((stellar)))

Really like the qurazy quoins.  Pretty cool incentive to explore further rather than, say, jumping street sign to street sign when going for those completionist badges :)   Appreciate the notice with regards to a new qurazy quoin on a street; it would be fantastic if we could receive a similar notice (*in local activity log) when we've found one for those instances where we might be distracted.

Loveeeeee the cards, however, found myself regretting quite a few purchases but realise that might be down to a personal quest to reinstate the speed of mining I had previously ASAP.  It's yet to happen over 3/4 into my allotment but I remain hopeful... for the time being ;)

Still getting to grips with it all and having a lot of fun in the process. Cheers x
