Game Subscriptions Discounts

I really wish TS would allow us to purchase the Beta Discount packages for a longer period of time. I really love this game & want to support it in any way I can, but I just won't have the funds to purchase a Subscription pack before the Beta offer is over. I *know* they will have monthly subscriptions eventually, but the Beta deals are really awesome.

Just thinking outloud.....

  • I agree. I thought it would be cool if we were to permanently get those discounts as we were here from the start.

I'm actually kind of hating how much the price is going to be for subscriptions now that beta is over. I think the prices are kind of ridiculous to be honest.

  • I got a subscription only because I had received a big check and had a few extra bucks, but yeah...the price is outrageous for me (keep in mind, I don't do really play MMOs, so this is new for me). I know that when my subscription runs out, I will not be renewing it.

  • Since I like a good "deal", I'd be *stoked* if the prices we pay now were locked in for those of us who do end up subscribing before the launch!  ;-D

However, my BF is a programmer and I work as a tech in the entertainment industry and I know that things like this take a lot of support (hardware and man-hours) and I think the price is more than fair.

I *love* that you can play without a subscription and that the subscription is for extra goodies and not just to play the game.

I am in full support of this game and I like to put my wallet where my ideals are (when I can, that is).

  • Reba, I can appreciate the number of people involved in developing a game, but when you're broke, you're broke and games are the first thing to go for me. Right now, I have my BFG subscription, Netflix, Hulu+, XBLA...All relatively small charges, but they do add up. I'll have to look at my budget next year to see if I could swing it, but the reality, is that I probably won't try to.

  • I guess I'm in the same boat as Carnivale. I'd maybe buy a subscription at full price when it comes to that time, but I can't pick up even the discounted price right now. I guess I'll settle with my free month for now...does anybody know when that will expire? As in...will there be a point where we can no longer redeem it?

  • $89 for the maximum subscription. That's $1.71/wk. I don't think making it any cheaper than that is worth it. And that's for the most expensive subscription (let me tell you, 400 credits a month, is awesome)! That being said, I'm sure there are people who have difficulty pooling the cash together for a one-time payment.

  • >_< Unfortunately, I'm currently unemployed and looking for a job. Maybe I'll get lucky and find something in time to pick up that deal! It really is a great deal! Not arguing the price, was just sort of sympathizing with him. I may see if I can scrape up enough for the lowest level, if I can. Even that, I'm willing to try.

  • I actually don't think the price is too bad even without the discount, since it does cover a whole year. It's nice that you have several different options too (I find the middle one the best balance for me since I intend to have one outfit that I keep my glitch in, it would equal $9 a month at the full price). And as someone mentioned, you don't have to have a subscription as the game can be played for free.

  • I want to buy a lifetime subscription, is there that option for beta testers?

  • So do I not get my free month, since I paid for the copper sub already? I'm trying to figure that one out. It also says my sub will expire the 19th next year, but they weren't supposed to start until beta. Oy, confused.

  • The low end is $5.00 USD/month full price. I manage to pay an $8.00 USD/month for 2 web sites (and that's each!) and I'm weakly self-employed now (business is slow starting up). If they allowed month-to-month subscriptions and a higher rate to offset the expenses of such they'd do just fine. Play RuneScape? That's their rates.

  • That's a really good point Miss Cailia!  My subscription wasn't supposed to even start until my free month was up (which would have been Oct 18 or so...) and it currently says it's going to expire on Sept. 21, 2012.  o.0

  • Yeah jeebus people spend 5 dollars a day on coffee and that's 150 a month JEEBUS.

  • @ Miss Cailia - I looked it up as best I could in the forum history and found out that once the game actually launches, subscribers' accounts will all be reset to the launch date.  In that thread one of the devs says that we all have a blue box in our account that explains it.  I posted in the thread and asked about the free month.  (It turns out mine started Oct 6 and not Oct 18 like I had originally thought...)

  • MIss Calia, you are already getting your subscription benefits but your subscription clock does not actually start ticking until the official game launch.

    From the account page:
"Your subscription will be 'reset' when beta ends, giving you a further 12 months. Your future stipend dates will be recalculated when this happens."

As for cost, I think it's a fabulous deal. I got the Moly on May 28 and have already gotten my stipend 4 times and may get a fifth. AND we haven't even launched yet so I will probably get 17 months for my $89. I am so glad I paid early. I've even bought the pack of 500 credits and will get a bonus 500 on upon launch. But no one has to pay to play the game. The game will be totally free to play even if you choose not to pay.

  • Thanks for the feedback everyone

I don't consider myself a huge "gamer". In my entire life I've played *maybe* half a dozen or so games (including Glitch.) My point was not how expensive other games can be, or that the Beta subscription prices were totally outrageous. My point was that not all of us Beta Testers are able to come up with a one time lump sum in the amounts of the awesome Beta deals, before they are going to discontinue them.

Unfortunately, I didn't know until I read the email TS sent two days ago, when they would end the Beta deals. I can't afford to buy even the lowest one until sometime next month. I'm not tryin' to whine about it, I'm just a little bummed out about it.

(Excerpt of the e-mail TS sent on 9/20/11, for those who may not have read/received it.)

Second, the special Beta offer for subscriptions and credit purchases will be ending in about a week: this is the warning we promised! You don’t need a subscription or any credits to play the game, but if you think you’re going to want either, now is the time to act: annual subscriptions are half-price and all credit purchases will be doubled (2-for-1) until we launch. (Details in the links below.)To summarize: * We’ve reset. Beta is almost over!* Half-price subscriptions end soon: https://beta.glitch.com/subscribe/* Credit-doubling offer ends soon: https://beta.glitch.com/credits/One last thing: per many, many requests, you can now gift subscriptions to other players. (And the same half-price deal applies.) Links are at the bottom of the home page when you sign in, and at the bottom of your (non-subscriber) friends’ profile pages.Thank you so much for testing! With your support we’ll be continuing to grow and develop Glitch, regularly adding new content and new features, for many, many years to come. Love,- The whole team at Tiny Speck

  • Wow, I can't believe how fortunate I am. After posting this and that about subscriptions in this posting.... my boyfriend just figured out our budget (again) for the rest of the month & was able to get us Glitch Beta Subscriptions.

That being said, I really do still wish the Beta Testers could have even just a couple more weeks to save up for the Beta discounts.

I really can't wait to see everyone back in-game. I'm getting antsy, waiting for re-open.

  • I'm in the same boat. It's hard to come up with the cash in one lump sum like that. I might go for the cheapest plan and then buy some credits since it's half off. As for missing out on the teleportation tokens w/ the cheapest plan.. I guess I'll just have max out my Teleporting skills :D

  • Saying "people spend $X on [arbitrary crap]" is a strawman. I don't spend $5 a coffee. Even when I was flush with cash, I didn't do that. So what does that have to do with me? What people chose to spend their money on, is their prerogative. Whether it be that $5 coffee or this game.

That being said, what's affordable to you, may not be affordable to others. I know a couple of people who are skipping the subscription because they're going to feed their kids instead. That's a real choice they had to make.

  • @Reba, thanks so much for the kind words.

@Jarhaven, well said. I agree and I know how difficult the daily struggles can be.

I like the fact that they had to make a choice though... it's understandable, those LED trainers are VERY tempting
