Donation Preferences

When I started donating Stuff to the various giants, I kinda assumed that they would have individual preferences in what you donate (e.g. Humbaba would animal products, Friendly would prefer things you find in caves (and maybe have a bonus at night?), Zille would prefer products of the earth, etc). I was surprised to find out that they all like the same things the same amount.

I realize that this would likely be a pain to balance, but it seems only logical that someone who wants to be really good at Gardening would get more points with the Gardening-affiliated gods by donating his/her Gardening products. Is there any plan to institute this? How would the community feel about individualized donation preferences?

  • I thought the same untill i just read this post.

Seems a shame its not that way but balance would be a hard task. Its still beta tho so we can hope.

  • hmm, I'm pretty sure I remember my Expensive Grilled Cheese sandwiches giving a different amount of favor with at least one giant. It got me a coin instead of a couple hours off some learning, where the same donation only gave me ≈1200 favor with the other giants I donated to that day. Anecdotal, I know, but it made me paranoid about checking the favor from items before I used my powder!

  • I have heard recently that you can get donation crits - explains a lot, eh?

  • A Lemburger to the Giant LEM rewards you massively.
A large amount (24+) of Earth to the Giant POT rewards you better than to other Gods.

I'm pretty sure there are others, but I think each Giant has at least 1 particular item they favour more than the others.

  • In terms of favor, it doesn't matter what you donate to which giant. Favor is always 10% of the currant value (or 20% with fairly hallowed, or 30% with extremely hallowed.)

XP, however, can vary, and occasionally you can get a large XP bonus. I don't know that this is linked to a giant's "preference" but it definitely can vary. I once made a relatively large donation and was lucky enough to get almost a full level's worth of XP as a bonus.

  • We KINDA achieve the same thing by having that favor speed up certain skills more depending on which giants are affiliated with the skills. I know it's not exactly the same thing, but it does help accomplish much of the same idea, and it's much much easier to implement.

  • @squorble, I was hoping that this could tie into that in a sort of cycle; you want to do X, so you get favor with Giant X, who speeds up Skill X, which lets you make X and you donate it with extra favor back to that Giant who speeds up the next skill in tree X, letting you make cooler stuff to donate... etc.

@c0mad0r that's interesting, I just assumed that since all the stuff I've looked at on the Wiki has a set favor reward, it was always the same for everyone. Would be cool if that was implemented on a larger scale!

  • Capablanca, it is the same for everyone. I've tested it and have never once gotten favor that was not 10% (or 20/30% depending on powder use) of the item(s) donated. I am not sure if c0mad0r is talking about favor or XP, but the favor rewards do not vary. XP might, but I'm unaware currently of anyone who's connected increased XP rewards to matching donations with giants. It appears at this time anyway to be random.

Edit - just tested to be sure, and yep, tossing a Lemburger into a Lem shrine nets you 13 favor points, or 10% of its currant value of 127 (rounded up slightly.)

  • I thought the same thing too, and I completely agree Capablanca.  It would really make sense and I think would add some great diversity and make it a little more complicated.  I think not *every* item should be varied, but I think some should vary between giants
