Better Information on Next Voting Issue

As a subscriber, I love the idea of being able to influence how Glitch develops.

But this balloting session was frustrating and disappointing. I was voting purely on a name. No images, no descriptions, no sense of how mechanics would work—NOTHING.

This is not a good way to "imagine" a new element in Ur.

Please, please, please next time give us something with which to make at least a moderately informed decision: sketches, bullet points, anything. Otherwise it's just blind man's buff mashed up with pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey which, while mildly fun, tends to leave everyone a bit dizzy and nauseated.

  • I find I have to agree with that assessment xP

They don't say first time's the charm though ;) Let's give it a couple months.

  • Well you know what Glitch is like... if you vote for "alpaca" you might get a small alpaca that burrows underground, if you vote for "mole" you might get a majestic mole that swings through the tree branches.

In truth I don't think they had much idea themselves at the time of the ballot as to how these animals would behave. Certainly they had no idea how they'd look - kukubee mentioned in one of the ballot threads (http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/17558/page3/#reply-181036) about having to go and decide how the heck he was going to draw the winners.

But it's a learning process for everybody - I'm sure the next ballot won't be run in exactly the same way as this one.

  • @Snazzlefrazz, you make my point for me.

I'm happy to vote for a glitchy burrowing Alpaca... I'd just like to know THAT's what I'm voting for. Otherwise, why bother?

  • I agree with the original poster. Also I wanted to add, in as far as the voting went, I hope Tiny Speck won't take the order of votes for all animals as actual preferences. By the time I saw the voting, the ones I wanted - mole and goat - were nowhere. It was then a question of which of the front runners that had a chance did I prefer?

  • This round was really a case of too much information of one kind (rankings in progress) and not enough of another (what we were actually voting for).

  • Although I realize having a choice/vote at all is something that never occurs in other games and am looking forward to seeing the process improved as we move along, I also agree with OP.

Having names of animals and no details or images, knowing that whatever animals won would be crafted/adapted to fit into the needs of furniture construction kind of made the choices feel cosmetic. It seemed that whether Sloth or Rat prevailed they would end up doing more or less the exact same job. Therefore I was blindly voting for what I hoped TS would end up making any specific animal look like. If I already know I am voting for an animal who is going to be necessary for furniture production a few other planned characteristics/visual hints would go a long way to making me happier about spending my votes.

  • I figured this round of voting was basically to beta-test the fact that when people vote, their votes get counted. And you can maybe see who's winning. So, put out a silly vote that doesn't really matter, because if something goes wrong, it's much less of a big deal. If we were voting on well-described changes to game mechanics, it would be much, much worse if there were a bug in the voting system and things were mis-counted. Or something was added late, like the Sloth.
