What are these things for?

1) Bubbles - Are these just food? And if so, are there any benefits? So far (as a new-ish player), eggs seem to be the best thing I've found for energy / effort. Is there something else I should be doing for energy?

2) Vapors - Heavy / Laughing / Crying gas., etc. What do these do? (or should I wait to try to figure it out on my own?)

  • Bubbles and vapors will be used in recipes that you will learn as you get more advanced in skill. So keep harvesting them!

Some people prefer eggs, some meat for energy. Just implemented recently, prepared meals are worth more than the sum of their ingredients so they are great for energy.

  • I prefer cabbage or potatoes for energy (from auctions)! 7 energy per item! :)

  • Bubbles and vapor are used to make other items, so long as you have the right skills and tools (bubble tuner and gassifier). A handy resource is www.glitch-strategy.com/wiki.

  • I think I prefer eggs over meat right now because I can 2x harvest, but I don't have the nibbling bonus yet. Also, I can carry more eggs in a pack slot.

Cabbage and potatoes? You aren't Irish, are you?

I have some cooking skills but I haven't really made use of them. Gathering various ingredients together seems like kind of a pain to do just for the energy. Maybe if the energy bonus were higher (or maybe they are pretty high? I haven't calculated).

Also, as the game evolves, I could imagine the cooking process itself becoming more fun. Imagine something like Cooking Mama as a mini-game to create high value cooked items, which you could then trade, sell or eat.

  • To be clear.. I have already created colored bubbles with a bubble tuner. I just can't figure out if it's a) any different than any other food, or b) better in some way, like more energy / effort or pack space. It seems like kind of a pain because you have to expend energy to harvest, and then expend energy to make the colored bubbles.

  • Have you tried the cooking skills? There are loads of different kinds of meals you can cook, using the 'Awesome Pot',skillet/frying pan,and saucepan, also there is a cutting board you can use to make some tasty bites. You will also need a grinder,a bubble tuner, and a fruit changing machine.
As well as food, you can make drinks, using the blender, and the shaker. Food and drinks help with energy, but some foods/drinks have extra benefits, such as mood-boosters etc.
But don't worry about getting everything at once, start with a simple cutting board,a grinder, and a blender, get the fruit changer as soon as you can 'afford' it,you learn how to use them as you go along, you need to have 'Rocky' learn the cooking and drinks skills, and bit by bit add the other items,as you find you need them.More recipes get added as you progress and practice.Currently my highest energy food/meal is 'The Awesome Stew',it provides 200 energy per meal.
As far as bubbles and vapors, goes you'll need the bubble tuner to change the basic bubbles into different types of bubbles, all kinds of bubbles are used in various recipies, same goes for the vapors, there's a machine (Gassifier) that will change basic vapor into different kinds of gases, which in turn are used in various recipes/concoctions.

A good source of info and help is the Glitch Wiki, www.glitch-strategy.com

  • Oh, I didn't realize that colored bubbles would be used in recipes to make other things. That makes more sense.

  • magic panda, in fact, the bubbles and gases are used in food and drink recipes, as well as recipes for things like bricks and blocks that are used in street building, so they get even more helpful as you earn more skills. Oh and in seasoned beans also, for various types of trees. By the way, there is an FAQ group if you're interested, too:)

  • @rascalmom thanks for the tip!

  • Yes Magicpanda, I like RM was going to direct you to the FAQ group. I just put up a whole thread about vapors last week or so because many others had similar questions. I'm not sure if there is a bubble thread but we certainly could make one if needed.

  • Thanks, Holly. Thanks for the posting about the vapors. The FAQ group is exactly what I was looking for.

For some reason, I thought the "Glitch Strategy" group would have this kind of info, and that the FAQ group would be for things like "How do I recover my password?"

  • I don't know what level you are, but I've found that making food seems to drain a lot of energy.  If you have some currants the Food Vendor in the mines (level 2 east?) sells some great food relatively inexpensively.  If you do buy foods, make sure you don't feed a food that will give you 100 energy if you only need 25 to get to max.

  • Magic Panda-You may be right that the Glitch Strategy group has this kind of info as well. I do not belong so I don't know. I believe that Travinara, started the FAQ group as a place to answer so many of the questions that kept popping up in the chat rooms. If you have any other areas you need help with you are welcome and encouraged to post in the "I have a ?" thread in the group. Others may have he same question :) Most of the food/energy conversions should be in the wiki but I can put together a thread if needed.

  • maria- making food takes a lot of energy, but it's SO MUCH FUN! buying food from that lady isn't fun at all :) stop by my house, i'll give you food any time!

  • Very recently, the developers started to make changes in the food system, so it won't actually cost you more energy to make something than it will give you to eat it, as it used to.  This (finally!) makes cooking worthwhile.

  • I haven't done the math, but (especially now with the changes) meals allow you to pack more food into an inventory slot than you can with say eggs. (Eggs: 1250 per slot. Awesome Stew: 2000.) So making a patch of something when you have energy to spare (say just before midnight), is beneficial.

I am looking forward to the possibility of needing to change up your diet as it will add a bit more 'strategy' to meals.

As to the original question, I imagine gasses and bubble will continue to have more uses as time goes more things get added.

  • @Glum, thanks for confirming what I'd suspected but hadn't done the sums to actually work out. It's the anti-food!
