Skills diminished - how do you feel about it?

Since the latest updates I've so far realized that my mining time has doubled and the amount of grain I get from chickens has halved...and I'm sure there are similar things across the board. While there are probably upgrades out there that compensate for this, to me it just seems strange and a bit unfair to have the skills we've already spent so long to learn be diminished. So how do you feel about this?

  • @Dotcom, I got somewhere in the region of 80k more IMG than a lot of other level 60 players.  Sadly I didn't think I'd have to do a printscreen/copy to prove this lol - null point now though as I spent nearly 2mill on upgrades and still have 300k img left which I'm saving for the housing upgrades!

So just because you were not aware, it doesn't make it not so : )

  • "So yeah, TS, you're the greatest, but I still have the right to want stuff I actually do want, even if you feel fully entitled not to give it to me."

That's right on the money. We have the right to want, but not the right to receive. It's still a privelege to have everything we have, but TS is under no obligation to give us everything we want. (aside from items promised to paid subscribers, obviously.)

  • I was a level 45 prior to the change and am now a 32. I have more than enough of everything I need in the game to move forward without much effort. I kinda wish I had learned all my skills first, but I have enough currants to buy fuel until and if I learn fuelmaking. Like many others have said, I think the changes are going to make the game better. Now I'm using strategies that I hadn't needed for a while and it makes the game more interesting again. Spending imagination on what we want seems very right.

Personally I feel the Devs have done a great job of addressing some shortcomings in the game and have kept us well informed. As a beta tester you sign up knowing big changes happen. I took a long break from playing because I was bored. Now I'm excited about the new changes and I'm going to be playing just as much or more as I did before.

  • Sorry but I agree with Mermaid.  I spent a a lot of time and resources (donations) learning those skills.  Now I have to wait for a random card and PAY to get the same level of skill back.  I got a "super harvest" from a piggie yesterday -- EIGHT meat!  Mining was drudgery before -- now it's torture!  I did a good bit of mining to get elements to make various powders.  And to get gems to donate (for XP).  I don't have enough gems to donate now to see if we get iMG.  Right now the game isn't fun for me.

  • I'm really frustrated with the fact that I've lost some skills-- especially Better Learning! I spent time learning those when I could have learned other skills, to make the time to learn skills shorten.

My biggest frustration with Glitch, as a player, is that there is not enough to do in between waiting for the next Quest.  The skill-learning times are too spread out.  I forget to play if I don't have a new Quest to do, and I JUST spent the last week trying to up my learning speed to get more Skills faster, so I could get more Quests, and now I've lost all that.

I don't think it's fair to penalize current players in this manner-- why not grandfather us in and allow us to have the "upgrades," then use the upgrade system for the new members who haven't had the opportunity to learn those skills.  Right now, I feel like weeks of my time on Glitch have been wasted and all I'm going to get in return is fewer Quests with a longer interval between them.  The game is only entertaining if I get a new Quest per day, at a minimum.  Otherwise, there's nothing to do.

  • Mattie Lou, did you know that Achievements are just like quests?  You get imagination and currants and sometimes giant favor when you complete them.

You have barely begun working on your Achievements.

  • @ Zoethor2 "Change is coming" is hardly the same as "brace yourselves, nerfbat will be hitting you over the head shortly".  LOL!  TinySpeck still has a bit to learn in the communication department.  An explanation that our characters were going to be weaker until we found the right cards AT THE TIME OF THE CHANGEOVER would have been preferable to us logging in and suddenly discovering mining takes 10 seconds and we get 5 grain per chicken squeeze until we find and purchase upgrades. Heck, you can see I was so confused I posted on the bug board because I thought the mining was a mistake.  At this point Stoot has explained things very well and I'm generally enjoying the changes.

  • The card upgrades more than cover the nerfing of the skills. I guess it really hurt the people who don't actually play much but who always had their characters studying, but if you play the game semi often you should already have enough imagination to buy back the lost skill potency and then surpass it though the cards.

    : )

  • I worked very, very hard to be a [XP] level 5 with BL5, and now all that is gone. EVERYTHING I put into this toon is gone, save for a few currants. All the streets I visited with zero mood for 0 XP won't count for Quarzy(sp?) Quoins now either.

Hopefully I can get a full reset, but I think I'll need to just delete this toon.

  • You get Qurazy Quoins on 5 random streets a day, no matter how many places you have and haven't visited.  Plus, once new areas continue to open up, there'll be plenty to explore!

  • I don't care what anyone says..I'm still confused..LOL..I had ALL the skills..I still have to buy..a whole bunch of cards.. and that's not a complaint..cos I don't mind buying them at all its fun...I just don't get how people are saying we got free cards or compensated this that or the other..I have no clue what any of that means..I also have no clue how people can sell upgrade cards in the auction. Or how we are supposed to be able to upgrade our character...or how it was supposed to look different..mine looks the same and I don't see anywhere where I am able to upgrade it...So I will remain forever confused..continue to buy cards and hopefully all will become clearer in my own imagination.. :-P

  • @Mattie Lou - we *were* grandfathered in.  If you check your upgrade page, you'll see that you were granted certain upgrade cards during the changeover.  I, for example, was given all the learning speed cards of level I and II right off the bat.

And I actually suspect/hope that this is one of the changes necessary to lead into a time with far more quests and things to do.  I think it's pretty obvious that quests are a major part of the game, and I'm certain that the developers area aware of that.  Myself, I haven't had a quest in months and months.  Which is fine - I played the crap out of this game and used them all up.  :)  But I really think that there are probably bunches of quests right out on the horizon and once these major overhauls have been completed, we'll start seeing them again.

  • Cryztal - go to your profile page, scroll down a bit, and click on "Your Upgrades".  You will go to a page where you can see every upgrade you've purchased.  At the VERY bottom of that page, there will be a list of cards you were given during the changeover due to your previous skillset/level/mercury-retrograde-status.

The upgrades to your Glitch itself are not part of this change.

Only two kinds of upgrade cards (so far) can be held in your inventory and sold on auction: Get out of Hell Free and Reshuffle.  They are one-time-use cards, as opposed to all the others, which are permanent

  •  Zoethor2..OooH...tyvm..:) I will go there and take a look..I've spent a fortune on cards..is it possible to buy cards that I was already given?..I hope not..I'm scared to look now.. :-/

  • If the card allows you to buy it more than once, then the effects of the card stack.  Barring bugs, the game will not let you "waste" your imagination on things you already have.

  • It seems to me that people are not really upset about the 'nerf' of skills so much as the inability to acquire the upgrade cards they want. The randomness factor, while I think fun for a new player, is frustrating for the veterans as waiting for the card(s) we want can take days. With the uncertainty of how much we will need or want when the housing changes over , I for one have this urge to be somewhat stingy with spending my iMG.

I love the idea of being able to upgrade the skills you use more often, especially for the new player leveling up. Personally, I don't mine all that often but I enjoy harvesting trees and nibbling me some pre-bacons. The dilemma of do I spend 5,000 iMG on making the Rube better, or 8,000 to increase my quoins so I can hope that I get one of the tree harvesting upgrades is a strange place to be.

I know it is probably way to late at this point as the changes have already happened, but is there any way that we can get the cards in categories or some similar type of arrangement? Or even allow more shuffles per day than the one (I've yet to see the upgrade card to increase shuffles). I would even toss out the idea that each shuffle could progressively get more expensive. 100 for the first, 200 for the second and so on.

I like the upgrades, I really do. They give me something to look forward to and a new way to look at the game. This is especially true if I were new to the game, but most of us here on the forums are not. I just wish I did not have to put all my faith on random chance.
