Minor Tool Pet Peeves

I often find that I am annoyed about my various tools due to not knowing how much wear and tear an action will cause.  As a specific example, today I  had 390 Mortar Barnacles in my inventory.  I clicked on my Grand Ol' Grinder (which was in perfect repair) and I selected Crush.  The only thing that appeared in my popup was my piles of barnacles, so I selected them.  I clicked the "All 390" button and was annoyingly informed that my grinder doesn't have enough durability remaining to do that many.  This left me to guess how much wear would be caused by crushing a barnacle and then dividing by my guess to see how many I could really do.  (I ended up guessing correctly, but I've certainly guessed wrong a lot of times with other tasks.)

My idea is pretty simple and I feel provides a rather friendly user experience.  If my selected action was to do too much of something due to the limitations of my tool's durability...  When the popup comes up to tell me about it, there should be two buttons on it instead of one.  Thus when I choose 390 Mortar Barnacles without knowing that was too many...  Instead of "Ok" it would have buttons proclaiming "Oh, my bad.  Nevermind." (effectively cancel) and "%s %d %s Instead" ("Grind", 250, "Mortal Barnacles") in this case (effectively "Do Max Instead").

  • i would like to see this implemented for both tool durability (+1)

and for my energy level, so that if I decide I want to Grind 250 Barnacles but don't have enough energy I can get the option (I don't wanna die! No thankee!) and live to tell the tale or (Grind 'em and weep) and be on my way to pick up some Hellish Wine.
