Controversial House Remodeling

Why do the Groddle Meadow houses have a silhouette of a heterosexual couple? I know this is going to get a lot of backlash, but personally I think it's a huge flaw. I think it compromises the message and integrity of the game. I'd really like to see this changed. I think it would speak volumes.

  • Compromises the message of the game? How so? No one is forced to buy one of these houses and I don't see how it's controversial.

  • Er...are you talking about the sock hop house?

  • Oh... the house with what is pretty clearly a young boy and girl on it? What makes you think that has anything to do with heterosexuality, or that it even represents anything other than friends?

Oh, wait. You're trolling, huh? Tell me you're trolling.

  • For anyone who's confused, I believe they're talking about the first medium home on this picture, from houses in the meadow.

  • Someone else asked to have boy/boy and girl/girl versions of this house added, which I think would be cool, and as I recall got some positive response.  Getting all huffy about it right off the bat like this seems uncalled-for.

  • I still think it's reading an unwarranted amount of woe into some silhouettes affixed to the front of a house. Seems like an oddly random thing to fixate on/ get huffy about.

The problem with TS running around trying to "correct" whatever one or two people find offensive (not the first thread on "offensive subjects", by-the-by) is that almost anything could be offensive. It's one thing to genuinely be on the lookout for things directed at a person, lifestyle, culture, religion, whatever, but another entirely to take umbrage at something so miniscule that it almost doesn't bear commenting on- especially since the house-decor isn't directed at anybody and certainly isn't intended as anything remotely sexuality-based.
I'm all for fixing and avoiding truly offensive behavior- i.e., don't call people the 'n'-word, don't blame a culture for whatever problems you have, don't castigate certain lifestyles- but I'm pretty solidly against getting hot and bothered about non-issues that say more about the complainant than the complaint. If they provide boy-boy/girl-girl decor, great. If they don't... well, buy a different house.
I fully recognize that this is likely to be an unpopular position. I'm fine with that. This is how I view a lot of the butthurt that goes on in the forums (and much of the reason I don't post here as often anymore). This right here is the equivalent of getting upset that Mrs Butterworth isn't a dude, and coming to the conclusion that, since I'm a dude and like pancakes, clearly that syrup company's trying to shove me in a box.

  • Ummm... I'm pretty new, but is there a reason to assume that because one has short hair and pants and the other long hair and a skirt that they are a boy and girl, respectively?  I personally know lots of people of both genders that sport all four of those style options...

  • Yeah, I'm fairly sure it's two boys and one is wearing a kilt. :>

  • You mean the two CHILDREN who could possibly be siblings...or cousins...or neighbors...that couple?  Really?

Sorry, it's late and I'm feeling a bit snarky.

+1 Djabrill.  And don't get me going on syrup!!  :-p
