@riscy, I'm using a PC and it works for me. Are you using FF or Chrome?
@Annie, can you uninstall the script, restart FF and then install the script again?
It doesn't sound like you have the latest version properly installed.
Thanks Ping! It just does not work I have uninstalled, installed, refreshed several times. I even rebooted. The script just does not show on the Home page and the description when I download shows three "alpha" URLs. I feel as though I am not getting the update but the earlier version.
OK, I just noticed this, when I click on or enter the URL above, bit.ly/gqueue, it immediately changes to the original URL for the script. I cannot enter that URL given above and get there.
Annie, you can edit the URLs yourself (change alpha to beta in the three instances you find at the top of the script) and save.
That is what I did. It performed as before during the last mini-test.
You wrote "the description when I download shows three "alpha" URLs".. Can you give me a screenshot that shows that? You can upload to imgur.com and post the image url here.
Also, can you go to "about:addons" in FF (just type that into the location bar without quotes, and press Enter). You should see a similar screen to the one here http://i.imgur.com/Go3iw.png. Can you screenshot that for me too?
Update: Annie, I forgot to ask, you do have Greasemonkey installed in Firefox right?
@caley dunn
You don't get the "Extensions, apps, and themes can harm your computer. Are you sure you want to continue? [Continue] [Discard]" prompt in Chrome when you click on the extension link?
Weird. It seems to work for me (I uninstalled and reinstalled from the site).
Here's the direct link to the extension anyway, see if it works?
I just found out that I could only install new version on Chrome when I loaded Chrome with administrator rights/as administrator (sorry, I do not know what it is called in the English version).
@Annie, I don't have an answer why you're not getting the latest version. On the webpage containing the instructions for installation, do you see "Latest version: 0.1.7 as of 2011.04.19 (Fix url change for beta)" ?
This is my last resort. Please do the same as you did before to remove the old 0.1.6 script (remove script, restart FF) and try this direct link to the 0.1.7 version to install.
On the page, the latest date is Jan. 15, 2010. The same date is on the script that I get at the "direct link" you just posted. It is a mystery but for some unknown reason I cannot access the latest version, nor can I edit the earlier version. I will just wait. I can't use it with the game closed anyway. Maybe I can get it tomorrow. I appreciate your help! BTW, that earlier version worked fine until the URL changed.
I'm stumped by how you're getting the older cached version. Very very strange.
The only difference between the latest and previous version is just the URL, so here's a workaround if you're still game for one more try (sorry! I have no idea why it's so much trouble for you!). Remove the old script and restart FF first.
1. Right-click on the direct link to the script (above) and save the glitch_skill_helper.user.js file to your desktop. Open up the file in a text editor of your choice (if you're on Windows, WordPad works better than notepad for this).
2. Change alpha.glitch.com to beta.glitch.com in the first part of the script. Save the file.
3. Drag the edited glitch_skill_helper.user.js into a Firefox window and it should install like any GM script. Check that the urls are now beta.glitch.com
ping, I run [ed: Firefox] on linux (Ubuntu). All I had to do was change every instance of "alpha" to "beta" under the Greasemonkey "Included Pages" heading and then in "Glitch Skill Helper" script itself. It worked (and I don't know how to code at all).
That worked! Amazing! I could not even edit it with WordPad before but this worked find. Now I am ready to Queue. Many Thanks for helping me get this most welcome script installed!
I've tried cleaning cache.
I've even uninstalled and re-installed Chrome and now I can't even access your download page, Ping.
All I'm getting is a blank page ' Untitled- Google Chrome'
with 'about:blank' in the address bar.
If you have any ideas on what might be going on ( Windows XP) please let me know.
I had some time ( since the game wasn't open) so I just kept picking away at it.
( I'm skipping all the failed ideas here)
I had to copy the URL from Firefox and paste it into Chrome just to get to the download page.
clicking on the extension download for Chrome still appeared to do nothing.
I did a file search and found 4 different 'Unknown' CRX files with the right date on them
After I deleted them, I tried again, did another search, dragged the file to my desktop and them dragged the file into the Chrome address bar.... and that seemed to do the trick.
I got the prompt asking me if I wanted to install...
YAY.
I still don't know why the links wouldn't open for me in Chrome itself. My computer may be possessed.
I couldnt get it to work on Firefox - dragged the script onto a window and it just brought the script up - but i am techno-moron so thats probably the reason!
Yeah I have grease monkey - when i ran the script with it, it came up with something to do with a graphic called throbber! not quite sure what is going on there!
Ah, it looks like you have a download manager (Down Themall) that's intercepting the script file before it can get installed. Can you temporarily disable the Down Themall add-on in Firefox, and then install the script? You can re-enable the add-on after the script is installed properly.
errr.....tried to run the script before the download manager was installed - when i dragged the script from my desktop onto the firefox window all that happened was that the script opened up in a webpage as text.......I remember the good old days when I used DOS and I could make things work....and all of this was fields.......
@Bob, That screenshot you posted look very much like Download Themall was intercepting the script file instead of letting it be installed.
Have you installed any other Greasemonkey script before?
If disabling the Down Themall add on and restarting FF didn't help with the install, can you go to "about:addons" (just type that into the location bar without quotes, and press Enter) and give me a screenshot? If it's easier, just upload it at http://imgur.com and post the image link here.
@Eleanor, I'm embedded the video here (it's also where I keep the latest version available).
caley dunn, sorry: I hadn't seen any response from you. That home page list of recent accomplishments and chatty messages from friends is pretty close to useless, so please forgive me if your response came first, I didn't see it.
@ping - if you want, I have an account on userscripts.org and could post your extension there. Then it just gets a nice shineh Install button - much easier, and a handy link :) http://userscripts.org/users/riscy
I have modified a few scripts myself, for use on FaceBook. Let me know if you want me to post yours there.
You should add some sort of intelligent hot linking for items to the glitchpedia. For example when looking at auctions for paper you should be able to open the paper glitchpedia (to look at paper tree locations), etc.
Bibiri... not sure how it fits in this thread, but definitely worth it's own thread. The game has load and load of way to access that info... usually the 'info' button when you click on an item (at the top of the action bubble). If you drag an item into chat, it will create a link to the encyclopedia... and in the auctions, click on the item or the item name, one of them brings up all auctions for that type, the other brings up the info.
@ping I'm still wondering why you can't simply allow the entire list of skills to be learned from, and if an unlearnable skill hits the top of the queue, skip it (or crash). I already showed my modifications (on a version a few months ago) here
I've been messing with ping's code a little, and here's my updated version, which allows selection from the list of all unlearned skills, instead of just the available skills. The catch is that when a not-yet-available skill is added to the queue, the time shown is the base time it takes to learn it, not accounting for the decreasing returns system, Better Learning skills, or anything else. This is more a shortcoming of the API (which I'm sure will be augmented) than of the code.
What happens if I queue a skill that I don't meet the requirements for? Does it skip that and go on to the next? Or does it stop because I can't learn that skill?
@WindBorn If a skill is encountered that it can't learn, it should move it to the end of the queue. If it cycles through the entire queue this way, it should just stop until something new happens. I say "should" because I didn't get much testing done during the last.. test... (All my skills take hours/days to learn =/)
Edit: I've now added a simple unit test system to the script, so I can now test it while the game's offline. I'm still writing the tests, though, so I still can't answer the question (I'm getting there, though).
Need a little help. With this new test, yesterday (Thursday) the skill queuer disappeared from my profile page. When I go to reload, it shows the code to the program. I've tried removing it with Monkey, still same results. I'm using FF4, did exit to desktop. But all my steps, logical and illlogical end up that I only see the code to your program. Any help or thoughts would be so appreciated. It's fabulous and I'd love to figure out what happened! Thanks in advance and have a fabulous day.
From my post 5 days ago. Don't know why it worked today except the page that I was directed to was different. So today I was able to reinstall the skill queuer. Issue resolved altho I have no clue why it disappeared. The important thing is that I was able to get it back. It's fabulous Thank you so much for doing this!!!
III) as quickly as possible. I just wanted to make use of downtime (you know, like getting actual sleep) to find more stuff to do in-game so that I don't get bored . The greater the variety of skills, the greater variety of quests/stuff to do, the longer I play and explore.
You're not the first to ask about this, and admittedly, it is not a big change to make. My resistence so far is merely a subtle wink and nudge to encourage folks to spend more time in-game and to explore other skill trees. I did not do this as a shortcut to mastering any/all skill trees.
That said, I'm TOTALLY cool that you've modified it to fit your style. I'm actually happy that you've done it and will be pleased to direct folks to your version if they need something different. :D
Hello Ping, I found your script for skills queue is really wonderful done. Can I suggest to adding a feature. Add the hours/minutes next to the skill name where after you click "Add+" button. Just want to one-glance at once to determine which skill is longest or shortest. I hope it's possible to add.
(If someone already made a suggestion, sorry. It's a long thread here, I didn't read it all.)
No one has posted any feedback here in almost two months, but I've been having trouble with this script. It doesn't seem to be able to adjust if I speed up the learning while in-game, and it has been failing to start new skills when the timer runs out on my home page.
