Pirating (With Ship And Flag)

It would be nice if there are vast sea... Some skill about Navigating, Pirating, Shipping, or any other things :p
We get currants from buy something from a vendor, across sea... and sell it back with higher price :-?...

I think it will be nice for social interaction in game (because a group of a ship, there are many players in there doing many things)...

But it's just an idea :p...
So what do you think about this?

  • There's already a game that does exactly what you've described, and does it pretty well: Puzzle Pirates.

  • @Eureka : yups... i know that XD... and take reference from that too~ XD... I think the Glitch game is about exploring and resource gathering, completing quest, and it will be nice if there is pirating job too :p...

  • I can see how that might appeal to some people, but from a big-picture perspective, I don't really see what would be gained by incorporating entire other games into the experience Tiny Spec is trying to build with Glitch. What you are suggesting would involve an building an entire separate and complicated economy, and merging it with the game's present economic system. It's been years since I played Puzzle Pirates, but if I remember correctly, the buying/trading/item-values fluctuating based on supply and demand (not just demand for the raw materials like pigments, but also the demand for items requiring those pigments), and Glitch's system isn't set up that way (at least not presently).

I don't think Tiny Spec could incorporate Puzzle Pirates into Glitch in a way that improves  on what Puzzle Pirates offers, or in a way that doesn't detract from the Glitch world and story they are already trying to bring life, so it would really be a just a matter of duplication for the sake of it, at the risk of diluting the Glitch experience.

Finally, all the things you've suggested ARE in Glitch, the only thing that's missing is piratey art and nautical themes. The building projects are like being on a ship mission in Puzzle Pirates, just without the ship. It requires a group of people with various skills, and people are doing separate things based on their skills, and doing what they can to contribute to the project as a whole. Some people might be making blocks (so consider that one skill like navigation on puzzle pirates), others might be blending drinks, or shoveling or grinding (so like sailing or bilge duty or repair duty on Puzzle Pirates), but all working cooperatively to accomplish the project goal.

That is as much of a community activity as any Puzzle Pirates pillaging and plundering missions. Maybe more so, since people are talking during projects and working together, but people aren't as social on Puzzle Pirates missions because you can't chat and do those puzzles at the same time. Also, while you can't buy goods from one vendor in Glitch and sell it to another at a higher price, there's a big difference between what different vendors will pay for items. Additionally, you can buy raw materials like produce or groceries from vendors and make things with them, and then sell those things to the higher-paying vendors. So really, it goes back to pirate/nautical themes and a supply/demand economy (and possibly work performed via puzzles instead of the way things are done in Glitch, but I can't tell if you were suggesting that) being the main things missing from your wish list, Glitch isn't set up for that (at least to this point), but you can experience that in Puzzle Pirates. One game doesn't have to be all things for everyone.

Focusing on what Glitch DOES offer, It might be cool to have a nautical or island themed area, with a few non-player character pirates harassing you like the juju bandits in Baqala.

  • Pirate themed stuff sounds cool. trade routes are boring though.

  • i don't care about the piratey theme stuff one way or another, but i would like to see glitch sorta lock 5 to 10 people in the same space together and have them work together to figure some stuff out or just accomplish some goal.

if a boat is a handy metaphor to build that mechanic around .. great.

i think there are more ways to create that situation tho, without boats.
