Dear newbies,

Lemme know if you need a few currants. I ask for nothing in return.

Yours sincerely,
Me

  • I find myself all too short in that department myself. So, since you're offering might you please spare this newbie any Currants you'd be willing to part with.

  • Hello Daniel and Scarlettwoman, what a nice offer!

I don't need currants, but I can tell you what I needed most at level 3 -- SALT!

I started playing this evening and all went well until about level 3.  Then my energy kept going really low and I ate all the food from the starter Island.  I have a knife and board, but most of the starter recipes need buns, which you need salt for.

I ate beans and cherries and pig meat until I had some currants, then I bought a frying pan hoping to be able to cook other things.  Guess what?  all the first recipes (eggs, omelette, etc.) also needed salt.

I figured out I could get salt from spice, so I continued on with my sparse diet (even spinach tasted good at that point!) and saved up for a spice grinder.  Then, where to get spice??  It was a long walk away, I figured I'd die of starvation before getting there.

What saved me was someone in the global chat talking about the resource routes.  After figuring it out I found two spicy streets, filled my bags with spice and finally made SALT!!

Since then it's been plain sailing, I can cook enough to keep going, I'm at level 5 and having a good time.  Just want to thank the people who put things in their street for other people to use :)

    tl;dr
Don't teach a Glitch to grind, give 'em SALT!!

  • I am very, very new and I have no idea if I need currants or not ... or - if I do need them, how many do I need? Also, is there any way possible I can roam around and not do any quests? I really hate quests.

  • Ann - just roam around, doing stuff, and forget about them.  From time to time the rewards will pop up and you can treat it like a random bonus - an extra super harvest - rather than anything else.  You can ignore the notification that there are new quests waiting, or click through them without reading them and just never open that part of the iMG menu.

Like Saucelah, I am also a high level player with several quests left to do, because I mostly ignore them and make my own fun.  Very occasionally that fun will be organizing the very large herd of cats that glitchen can be into a group activity that is suggested by one of the badges or a quest, but that is done as much for its own sake as anything else.

  • I still have 'peter out peat' on my list and STILL haven't gone to the top of the tree, which was one of the very first quests when I started.  Don't tell but I used to go back now and then to steal the spinach from that one :D

Quests are sometimes useful for teaching you how to do things but not vital to playing (thank goodness!)

  • Ann....you've probably noticed each new street you visit you get a iMG, make sure you pop that bubble....each world you complete you get a badge.  You can see your progress by looking in the Encylclopedia.....great reference for what you've done and what you have yet to complete.  Most of all, just have fun and complete the quests a little a time...more fun that way.  Some of the quests are quite fun actually.
