New! - Status Update Improvements

Hello!

We've just released a bit of an update to the "status updates" feature in the activity stream on your homepage.

The main advancements are:

(1) You can now "reply" to someone else's update

(2) You can now "like" someone else's update

(3) Updates look a bit spiffier (but not super-spiffy - more on that in a moment)

(4) Each update has its own "permalink" page, so you can share it with others, and more easily navigate chains of replies to a single update.

We're launching it now because, frankly, we're really pretty excited about the whole thing, and we wanted to share it with you. However, there are some interface elements that are still under consideration, which we'll be addressing in the next week or so. Namely...

(1) As hinted above, we think the new look is an improvement, but we're not 100% happy with it - please expect minor tinkering in the near future.

(2) You can't "unlike" something you've liked just yet... so be careful with that clicking-finger!

(3) For those of you who are reguarly all a-twoot, or who twutter, or whatever it is the cool kids do, you may notice that there's no direct, nice way to "mention" someone with, for example, an @ symbol. Doing this is slightly complicated by the fact that, in Glitch, players can have spaces in their names. However, we do have some Nebulous Plans for this which we hope will be enacted in (relatively) short order.

 Feedback is welcome!

  • Seems we all loved it at first..but now..we are not so sure ...here is what I posted in FB Faunasphere Glitchers Group... Just cos hitherto said feed back was welcome.  :)

yup .. too much going on all over the place in there... good in theory tho ..and the thumb nails are great..I'm sure they will tweak it ..while we roam..but then that is what beta is all about .. maybe we shouldn't be just commenting about it in here..but in Glitch or both..do the devs read this ?

  • I want the old status update page back. I'm old fashioned and I don't like change :D

No, really, it's just too much random information, and it's presented in a completely non-logical way to my right-brained way of thinking. I love the thumbnails, but honestly, the new format just takes up WAY too much room. Sadly, I have no programming experience, so I can't offer any suggestions on how to fix it. And, I won't pretend that I do know :D

  • @ Essie Kitten. you can change whether you see everything or just updates on the left hand side of the screen. That might help...

  • I like the premise behind the changes... I don't necessarily like how they look.
I feel now that they are too bulky and generally hard to read.
Perhaps some tweaking with the look will help?
Maybe the "bubbles" are not needed at all.. they seem to expand a simple comment, which now takes up 4-5 lines of empty space.

  • Just have to throw in my .02$ and say I absolutely love them entire web integration with this game. Can't say I've seen it done better.

  • Interesting, once I've poked it a bit.

One quirk I noticed is the avatar fuzziness seems to persist over to when you click onto a "thread" of conversation.

Another thing I would really like, if it wasn't too much of a resource drain, is a "thread from start" under people's replies on my timeline, since atm, you're clicking upstream to figure out what's going on. (Preferable to inline loading after a certain point in a long conversation, although that might be nice too.)

    > eta: It occurs to me after typing that out that the ideal might be loading the reply before that, then if there's not enough context, clicking to the bubble and going up manually or going "to start."

  • Sweet. Kind of a shock when you first see it but I think it'll be a nice addition to the game.

  • It looks great--you guys did a fantastic job.  I think the thumbnails could be a teensy bit larger, but I like the fact that you put them in--very cool all around.  :D

  • They said they are still working on the format.  I love the idea of this much better then how it was before

  • It's kinda cool seeing the conversations back and forth but wish there was a minimize feature so you can choose when you want to see what everyone is saying and when you just wanna keep your Home page clear of that.

  • The Home page format change that now shows friends' avatars under the Friends Online  heading is cute but unhelpful  because I really can't tell who's on line by looking at an avatar.

The pictures are tiny.  These folks change their looks often, sometimes several times a day and there are a lot of them. Yes, I can mouse over the pictures to get the names, but that's a waste of time and space compared to glancing down a list. In this case, simpler would be better.

  • + 1 @ caley: I agree. My work-around is going to the Friends page, where they are listed by names and where they currently are.
