What do YOU look for in Glitchy homes?

After reading the whole "mad rush" thread, I found myself contemplating this very question about myself. So, I'm curious to see what everyone's experiences have been with regard to acquiring a home.

Which homes do you like most, like least and why?

Discuss.

  • I like my home to be large (I like to have separate piles of junk), and easily accessible from the street. Usually one button press to select the specific housing block, and then the closest house to the spawn point on the street. Anything that reduces how tedious it is to reach my home. (I would LOVE to have the ability to enter my home directly from the main street, maybe a "your home" button instead of selecting the specific floor/housing block).

  • I've been in the same home since I started the game.  Way back then, it was one of the nicer homes in Glitch.  It has 5 patches, a 12 plot garden and a 32 slot closet.  It came with 4 piggies, 6 butterflies, 2 chickens, 2 meat collectors, a milk collector and a piggie feeder.  Another BIG reason I liked it was because it was close to a subway (this was before we had teleportation).  I love some of the areas "up North" that look like the Pacific Northwest.  Now that there are subways up there, they are tempting.  I'm not a fan of the tree houses or those that look like mud huts.  I like the space of the houses in Shimla but it's too dark there.  I'm really hoping that when the game goes live and we can customize our houses that that includes adding on to them.

  • If it has an animal pen I am happy.  I would even buy just a pen if it were offered and I had a bit of land to put it on.

  • I started out with a home in Groddle Meadows, Marrakesh Meadow Quarter... like this one. I disliked the whole Atari theme, but it worked and was convenient for a "growing" glitch.

I saved up for quite some time (~40 days) and with the help of mrsheart2 (Thank you!!!) was able to buy a home in Isalan Interval Quarter, Alakol. While I like the added cabinet slots and house space to dump stuff, the potters to grow things, the cool coral/pen for my animals and even the stairs; I found myself missing the people constantly coming and going from Groddle Meadows. Alakol is just... boring.

So, in the future, I wanna try the swamps followed by a "smaller" home somewhere close to the masses. Anyone else feel the same way?

  • I chose my first house based on the least number of currants needed.  I chose a spot close to the vendors I use most.  I choose the house that was furthest away from the spawn point.

My second house was chosen based on the art/view and the vendors. Being the first person to buy on my block, I chose the house that was closest to the spawn point.  I'm still deciding whether I buy it again after re-start.  It's an Alakol house but I'm not sure I need all that space.

  • I rather like my mud-hut/beehive looking house in Kifti Crown in Tamil.  It's small, but I am making do with my piles of stuff all over the place.  It came with one pig, and I kidnapped one more and hatched a pig and a chicken and there's enough room for all of them to be happy.  I have three trees and 12 plots.  But what I like best is that even though it's on the ground floor of the housing block, I have to jump or climb down to my backyard, which is kind of cute and fun.  I'll miss my backyard ladder if I can't get my house again.

Edited to add:  It is a rather long walk to the subway, which isn't so much fun, but it's a good neighborhood with lots of quoins along the way if you need them.

  • i've come to love my little groddle forest treehouse.it's convenient to subway, machine room, and community garden. it's close to the spawn point for the block (i'd like it closer) but i wish i could grow herbs there. the swamp houses are beautiful but too dark for me, and i don't need (or want) all the space of an alakol mansion.i'd like something midsized and bright with an animal pen and a place to grow a few herbs. maybe a small house with a big yard and some good shade? in a convenient neighborhood? i'd pay a lot of currants for that.

  • The minimalist Alakol houses I find a little to dull - I like bright and fun spaces in RL and in games.  So I have had two houses in the Groddle veggie decor.  My current house (http://beta.glitch.com/realty/LA9VR546JOA26VG/) had 16 garden plots and 5 trees spots, which really helps keeping my spice supplies up.  It would be nice to have even more plots and patches and an animal pen, but I'm not sure I want to move to Alakol.I would love to be able to customise decor and I'd pay loads to be able to mix and match what trees you can have or how many plots you have.  It seems redundant that the areas that can grow dark area plants are places that already have those out in the wild!  I suppose it keeps everyone travelling *shrugs*

  • # of garden spots, # of tree spots, amount of closet space, amount of animal space, proximity to areas I'll traverse frequently (uralia, savanna)

  • I use the subway so much that I prefer being right near a stop; I also look for things like easy access to mailboxes, vendors (of types I can use), and, tbh, I love the bogs, so I've pretty well kept myself there. I don't do much cooking, so I don't need all that much access to fruit trees or piggies, either. I'm on my 3rd house in Leeteg Mews, and I'm pretty happy, though I feel like the trade-off between space and the convenience of living in Onto Parada (and the fish I left behind :[ ) is a pretty close one. I miss my old 'hood.

  • I know that the art on Glitch is supposed to be one of the big draws, but I find all of the cave, tree and bog houses just really ugly.  However, I also find the apartments and the 30 and 50K penthouses a bit too sterile.   I like the cottage style houses that look like houses.  And I like the insides that look like houses, not fruit, or video games or a super-goth Halloween.  I love the ones with big picture windows so I can see the mountain or forest views from inside, as silly as that sounds.

Location is huge.  I thought Groddle Meadow would seem too crowded when I moved there, but it is just so convenient to everything.  I am not good at the jumping needed to navigate in the vertical areas, so I'd hate having a house in the mountains or Chakra Phool.  I'd especially dislike one of the bog houses that requires  jumping to get to the gardens inside.

Resources are important, and I was lucky enough to get houses that already had trees and animals when I was shopping.  With my skill set, barnacles, jellisac and fireflies at home would be nice, but it's not worth the other disadvantages, and I like the regular garden plots.

I'll probably try to get a 50K before reset just so I can test if it's really worth it or not.  I do love the balconies on those.

  • I love the cottage houses. I just wish I could make them a little bigger or at least add a pen to them. I first had a cottage in Marrakesh Meadow. Loved it. Then I moved to a cottage (same model) in Bortola, which I liked better. The location was better for my needs, and I liked the muted color scheme.

Right now I'm in a Salatu house (a 50k house). I don't like the look as much as they are not so cozy or warm feeling, but I do like the extra closet space and the pen a lot. And the ability to have more room to separate things on different levels. When I was looking into getting one of these larger houses, I considered the location (proximity to the vendors I use the most and other types of trees/plants in the region) and the exterior look. I really don't like the exteriors of the expensive houses, but the ones that had more of the dark grey stone were slightly more appealing. I also decided I wanted a house at the end of the street away from the spawn point.

One thing I miss about both of my cottages is that each one had a cherry tree growing just outside my door. And I miss the extra tree patch (my larger home only has 4 as opposed to 5). I may go back to that style after reset, though I do adore the levels of the new home. I also miss the interior style of my cottages. They were the ones with the art easel. I just figured I'd best try out the larger ones before reset. I really can't wait to see how we can customize our homes after launch. That may make having one of the cottages I had the most perfect option for me.

Edit: Paragraph breaks are fixed and so is my post!

  • I love the look of the bog houses, but I love the animal pen of my Alakol home. My favorite thing about my neighborhood is my street neighbors (they are the best: clever, funny, generous, and appreciative).I wish there were funkier house options in Alakol. And I wish we could have a couple of pots for herbs. And I love jumping off my balconies.

  • I like space but not too much space maybe...I never felt tempted to move to the big alakol-style houses - but if the location of them was different maybe I would be. I like to be near a subway and close to lots of different kinds of resources. I would prefer a vegetable garden, but I just moved to the bogs as I wanted to try it out before reset and after a little setback (moved into a claustrophibically small house!) I found a house I really love and can run around in. Only problem is, the game closed and I haven't had enough time to play it yet!

  • I really wanted one of the big houses in Alakol and got one either last test or the one before with some financial help from a couple of kind glitchens.  I lasted in there for all of one day and then moved out as I didn't like it, too sterile looking.  Am in Groddle Forest at the moment and quite like it.  It's nice and green and handy for lots of other areas.   I'll probably come back here after reset or one of the other Groddles.

  • I have to admit I'm not wild about any of the housing choices.  I want  a house with an animal pen to keep them out of the garden, and that severely limits the choices.  I had a 10k house in Andra that I liked in most respects, but I really didn't like the light.  Everything was dull and grey, and eventually it just got to me.  I'm in a 50k house in Salatu now.  I like the space and the amenities, but I really don't like the modernist look.  Why aren't there any classical look houses?  There are cutesy, modern, trees, caves and underground, but nothing that feels like home to a traditionalist Glitchen.  My RL house is a 150 year old stone house in England.  It would fit in perfectly in the Heights.  I'd gladly pay 100k or more for a big stone house with stone flag floors, an Aga in the kitchen and a roaring fire in the sitting room.  As long as it had a pen for the animals!

  • I want a Firebog house. The only reason I'm not there is because of conveinience, but that may change since it's being expanded. Right now I'm living in Andra, in a 50K house, which is nice since I'm big on block making. I like the background as I used to live in Alakol and the washout drove me nuts. But Andra was almost perfect. Good for dirt gathering. I just like the Firebog style better. Have started spending days at end there due to ff collecting, peat and jellisacs. Love the style, but I like being able to grow veggies and having humongous cabinet space which I barely use, except for veggie and food storage.

  • My ideal home would have fireflies and a few vegetable garden plots. Currently I live in Shimla Mirch because fireflies win over gardening - I can buy vegetables. I love climbing and jumping.I don't really like, the cutesy houses like most in the Meadow, nor do I like the boxes of Alakol. People say the swamps are dark, but personally I find them to be full of color (especially with fireflies!) and the underground houses are the dark ones - the entire place is gray. I don't need a lot of animals at home, because I don't actually spend a lot of time there, and I find plenty of animals on every street.

  • I loved my little cottage in Estevan Meadows, but I wanted more room to grow my veg and also I didn't like the pigs, chickens and butterflies, getting in my way in the small garden. I do miss Groddle Meadow, I think it is one of the nicest places to live. Wish they had some larger type house there as well, not sterile like my new house. It is in Kajuu, Tonga Trips 30c house looks awful from the outside and no view from the balcony. But it has plenty of room for my piles of stuff, most are in bags now. I also love my larger garden 27 crops and a pen for the animals, but it only came with 2 patches for trees, would have liked 4 at least. My little cottage in Groddle Meadow had 3, I still go back to that area for fruit & beans.

  • When the big Alakol houses hit the market, a lot of the cute ones in Estevon Meadow opened up, and I snagged one of the Asian style cottages (http://beta.glitch.com/realty/LA917R54G4427O3/).  For a predecorated home, it is the best style I've seen, and the trees and garden plots are just the right size.  The big houses are way too bland for me, and the mud huts and treehouses are repulsive to my sensibilities.  I would think that a huge subscriber benefit would be custom house decor.  Next to picking my own look for walking around, i would love to decorate my little corner of Glitch, and it would be even cooler if my decor was readily visible to anyone checking out my realty listing (I'm just saying...).

  • +a million, Miss Melody. I ended up choosing a Salatu home over a Kajuu home since the Salatu ones had a cliff/ocean view/backdrop. But I do miss my little artist's cottage.

  • The large homes in Alakol are pretty perfect for me.
-Lots of space, which is ideal for bouncing around the place (I tried that in my old Groddle home and got stuck in the roof, was frozen there for ages and had to refresh to free myself).
-Piggy pen, pigs are my favourite Glitch-critter, but I do like them to be in one place and not wondering around all over, so keeping them in one place is a bonus.
-Weird teleporty stairs! Combine with the bouncing around the place and for me it's endless fun :D
-Scenery. Kajuu may be slightly more pretty, but Alakol has a more natural look to it without the blue haze.

I least like those annoying tree houses! First house I got was one of them, took me so long just to get into my door, as I'd keep falling down the tree and missing my step. I think they were designed to drive owners crazy.

  • I love my Kajuu home on Jolkan Jank...I like that it's close to the badlands and a subway and a mailbox.  And I love the animal pen and the subdued colors.  But I'm thinking about getting a tree house for a starter home after reset.  Those things are an incredible value for 2200 currants!
Posted 15 months ago by chilirlw Subscriber! | Permalink
  • My priorities are: tree patches, subway, vendors and the possibility to keep piggies away from plots and stuff on the floor. I tried just about everything. Alakol is too ugly, the bog houses are too dark and have too much running around to do. I found my perfect home in Groddle Heights. I'm not keen on the mud house looks, but the rest is just what I need. The pigs are on the ground floor and the trees, plots and butterflies are upstairs in the sunlight. There's even a small rock ledge where I can put things.
So I'll go for a cheap Tallish Crest home to start with and eventually get a 10k Meadows home for the extra patch.

  • I started off with a small house in groddle meadow, right next to the spawn point, but it was far too small and I didn't like the candle-cup piles. I then moved to 5521 Navran Dissent Quarter
http://beta.glitch.com/realty/LIFCU15T2N62DHO/) so I could have piggies and lots of trees and veg, I also love jumping off the balconies and having a larger cupboard, I think after the reset I'll try a similar one in Andra.
