Support our Farmers!! Crops have been shortchanged in Glitch and here's proof.

Most grown crops are part of only 2 or 3 recipes - in some cases, the same ones (such as the crudites.)

Crops

Broccoli - 2
Cabbage  - 2
Carrot   - 2
Corn     - 5
Cucumber - 2
Onion    - 10
Parsnip  - 2
Potato   - 6
Rice     - 2
Spinach  - 5
Tomato   - 9 (3 are sauces)
Zucchini - 1

Meat, Dairy and Grain

Bun     - 10
Cheese  - 20
Egg     - 15
Meat    - 22
Milk    - 9

Zucchini gets ONE recipe, while meat gets 22?   Cucumber gets 2, and one of those is pickle?  The only green vegetable that gets more than 2 recipes is Spinach, with 5.

Is this fair?   Is this healthy?   I say NO!    Demand more crop-based recipes so that Glitchen can eat closer to the land!  Post to this thread and show your support for the farmers of Ur!  Fight big Pork and Milk!  Demand more vegetable-based recipes NOW!!

  • Virtual health.. cool.

I support the fact that our crops should be in more recipes, and TS tells us in at least two threads every week more recipes are coming. Just be patient.

    +1 to that.

  • Another complaint on a similar vein is the continued existence of produce vendors. Why bother growing when you can buy just as fresh from a produce sweat shop in Bortola?

  • Agreed... The "Eat a bigger variety of foods" upgrade was a step in the right direction, but more recipes to encourage us to grow all sorts of crops would be even better!

  • I bet if we could grow rhubarb, Stoot would agree.
Posted 5 months ago by girlthulhu Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have a somewhat backwards agreement -- one reason I avoid Awesome Stew is the "long" list of veggies it takes -- since most other recipies use so few.

Also, to me the primary reason to make wicked bolonease sauce is to craft Tasty Pasta, so I don't think of it as a "separate" sauce recipie. Ditto Creamy Catsup -- merely a precursor to EGC.

PS: I think the recipies are not balanced well overall, but that is a whole other topic!

  • Well I make Awesome Stew all the time so I do need cabbage, onion, potato, and uh, whatever else. But yeah it does suck that a lot of vegies don't have many recipes.

    Moar recipes for zucchini!

  • I think we should be able to use herbs in the recipes as well. I can imagine a really yummy salad made of spinach, cabbage, tomato, cucumber and flavored with a simple dressing of oil and purple.
Posted 5 months ago by Papa Legba Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Parody perhaps, but really.  only one recipe for zucchini?  Only two for carrots?   What are we supposed to be doing with this stuff - eating it raw?
Posted 5 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @WalruZ - lol!  RAW! The horror! Surely that would involve bonus points & danger credits.

  • +1 for onion rings

+1 for adding herbs to recipes... I love putting flower petals in a salad!  There are also some flowers that are really, really good in brownies.

And hey... you know what goes really well with zucchini?  BACON.

  • There are some other plants people would enjoy putting into brownies.

Maybe if we could add optional ingredients to recipes that gave bonus effects, there would be more use for some of the veggies.  Throw some carrots into your stews and your eyeballery would look around the area faster for a while. Get some higher jumps when you put some beans in your salads.

  • I agree that we need more veggie dishes, though something as veggiefied as Awesome Stew is a little overkill.  Maybe something that takes one or two veggies would be a good balance.  Add some bubbles in there or something else easy to gather.  I made Awesome Stew for a long time, but it was just a pain in the ass, especially with the boatload of beans that were needed.

  • I'm sorry but I disagree. There are waaaay too many healthy choices to us glitchen. What we are short on is munchies. Teeth-rotting, belly-bulging munchies. How am I supposed to run a *ahem* 'cafe' with so few sweets to choose from. I mean c'mon---flummery? High fructose corn syrup squares? All I'm left with for my shelves are banana no names, birch candy (who likes this stuff but your gamma for her fancy dust-covered crystal candy dish?),gamma's pancakes (once again--gamma likes 'em they can't be sweet),greasy frybread and pumpkin pie. No self-respecting *ahem* cafe patron would be caught dead with any of those! We need moon pies, we need onion rings, we need big boxes of dry cereal. REAL munchies. That's all I'm asking for.

  • It always seemed weird to me that we can grow all these veggies and we don't have a recipe for vegetable soup.

Need some help, devs? How about...
-Sauteed Zucchini - frying pan,  zucchini, onion, salt, pepper, olive oil
-Zucchini bread - frying pan, zucchini, flour, salt, milk, egg, honey
-Veggie stir fry - onion, carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, sesame oil, salt, pepper
-Easy Broccoli with Cheese - sauce pan, broccoli, salt, cheezy sauce
-Carrot cake - frying pan (since we make pie in it, why not cake?), flour, honey, carrots, butterfly milk, butterfly butter
-Cucumber sandwiches - cutting board, bun, cucumber ... Um, what goes in cucumber sandwiches besides cucumber?
-Potato-parsnip mashup - awesome pot, or maybe sauce pan, potatoes, parsnips, milk, butter, salt, pepper. And it would look like mashed potatoes, which is an evil thing my mother used to do us kids - looked like mashed potatoes, tasted like parsnips.
-Cabbage rolls - (which cooking tool?), cabbage, rice, meat, spices, creamy catsup
-Carrot slaw - cutting board, carrots, oily dressing or secret sauce, pinch of salt, garnished with slice of tomato (or cucumber)
-Spicy rice - awesome pot, rice, tomatoes, black pepper, hot pepper, mustard, tumeric, pinch of salt
-Easy Cucumber salad - cutting board, cucumbers, onion, salt, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice
    Aaaaaaaand:
-Vegetable soup - awesome pot, cabbage, carrot, corn, onion, parsnip, spinach, tomato, zucchini, garlic, older spice and pinch of salt. And offers as nearly as much energy as awesome stew
-Popcorn! - saucepan, corn, olive oil, salt and butterfly butter
-Veggie chips - awesome pot, parsnip, carrot, potato, olive oil, salt

ETA: And I want chocolate. Hot chocolate, brownies, chocolate cake, hot fudge sundae (ice cream made with butterfly milk), chocolate covered strawberries, those chocolate covered banana things you do in the freezer (we could use ice to chill the bananas), mocha latte and of course, The Classic Chocolate Bar (chocolate, butterfly butter, butterfly milk, honey).

  • Hmmm; well, I don't know about this crop thing, however, it has always bugged me that there are certain things that are required for certain recipes, but the only way to obtain them is to purchase them at either a Grocery Vendor or Produce Vendor.

For instance Mushrooms; can't grind them or grow them.  Beer; I wouldn't expect to be able to grow or grind beer, but if we can make Hooch then why not Beer?  And there are a whole list of groceries that can only be purchased.  I suppose in the Real World if I need a mushroom in reality I'm not going to go out and grow some, I'm going to the Grocery Vendor.  But if I need an Ice Cube I'm going to pull it out of the freezer.  If I need a cup of coffee I'm going to make it in my coffee pot with the beans I bought from the grocery vendor which were most likely grown far, far away in special climates and terrains.

I can see the complications with creating more things we can grow or make ourselves, but if it's possible it would be a nice thing to have.
