Carpentry + Penpersonship = Signs

This suggestion is mainly about Carpentry. This idea was inspired by Glitches around Ur wanting to make a more permanent note. Most of this thread will focus on a basic Carpentry thing, the Sign.

  First, a new skill. Carpentry. This tool, while not having many requirements, will be a sorta advanced skill. This will take LOTS of time, energy, and tools. Like in the hundreds. Though Planks looks big, they’re really small (or you just really suck at using sawing the planks and throw away more than half of the plank everytime). Anyways, it’s easy to get hundreds of Planks… so it might take even in the thousands (MAYBE). This is a pretty optional skill, for fun only. It doesn’t give you food, only a bit of mood (only you will lose a lot while actually doing carpentrying). Not something fast like Fruit Changing or anything. Will take time and concentration. Dedication. That’s what I want you to understand and get.

   This new skill will require the following skills:
Tinkering (III? or II or I)
Engineering (???? Probably not as Engineering is more machine like and Carpentry is more wood like)

   So yes, you can see, this is a pretty basic skill for the Glitches of Ur to learn. If it does take Tinkering 3+, then it will take longer as an emblem is needed. While it is easy to learn the skill, the things you can make with it may take other skills such as Animal Husbandry (WOODEN PIG COLLAR? XDD). Engineering and a higher level of Tinkering will give you more ‘recipes’.

   This new skill will require the following tools:
Carpentry Manual (basically the place where you can look at the recipes, put up a Workarea, etc. not the main tool, more like something you just need) – New Tool/Thing
Planks
Metal Nails – New Item
Wooden Nails – New Item
 Glue – New Item
Rope – New Item
Sparkly Nails (? For vampire attractors XD) – New Item
Beady Eyes (decoration) – New Item
Hammer (to hammer in those pesky nails, craftable through Tinkertool and Tinkering 4 or bought at certain vendors) – New TOOL
Sparkly Hammer (upgrade of Hammer, more uses, craftable through Tinkertool and Tinkering 4 or bought at certain vendors) – New Tool
Knife/Saw/Those Fancy Detail Tools (to cut those planks, craftable through Tinkertool and Tinkering 4 or bought at certain vendors) – New Tool
Fancy Knife/Saw/Those Fancy Detail Tools (upgrade of above tool, more uses, craftable through Tinkertool and Tinkering 4 or bought at certain vendors) – New Tool
Layout/Outline/Workplace (not be an actual item but just be something made the skill… but it’s sorta an item as in you can interact with it… you can move it (by pushing it after pressing the Move option) but you can’t pick it up)
 Other Random Decorations & Tools (PLEASE GIVE INPUT STAFF AND GLITCHES)

 Most of the tools will be found at a Hardware Vendor. A Carpentry Vendor would be nice, but that would take major reorganizanation. Or a Crafting Vendor (AWESOME) for ALL crafting skills. Wooden Nails could be made through Carpentry itself (or another skill) with Planks and a Knife/Saw (?) or bought (?). Metal Nails would be made through one of those other skills that involve metal (which I don’t know about as I’m actually quite new to Glitch)… Etc. Basically, MORE SKILLS = BETTER = MORE THINGS FOR OLD PEOPLE TO DO. |:

===================================

The main example in this thread is the Sign. Or Wooden Sign. This is probably going to be the MOST basic recipe (? because signs will be written on and that may take a higher level of responsibility XD). The Sign requires Planks, some Nails, the use of a Hammer, the use of a Knife/Saw, and LOTS of energy. Planks in the hundreds, and Nails in the hundreds, and etc. Decorations? Leaves? Cherries (for red juice)?   Carpentry is way different from any of the other making skills (fruit changing, bubble tuner). You don’t just put in the items, wait a couple seconds and lose energy… a lot of it is optional and will take time. You can choose decorations, cherry juice, etc. There is a LOT of freedom in this. Of course, you can’t just put any decorations on it… there’s a set limit. Whatever the decorations, the item will be the same, just look different when you put it down.   Basically, you put in the items. To even put the item in the Layout, you have to use energy. For each Plank, you have to Saw it etc. For each nail, you must Hammer. You could miss. Slash fail. Very frustrating. Just like a talk with those tiny green lizard people at the Bureaucratic Building or trying to water a crop garden. And you can’t just put in all the Planks at once… how can you hold them? You have to Plank, then Nails, the Planks etc.

~||The Procedure||~ (For the Sign, but same idea for others)

You have to make it in your home. You could make it somewhere else, but as the whole thing takes a long time, people could steal it in a public place. Of course, other people could HELP you if it were outside. But you could just invite people into your home where the layout is. So yeah, a private place.   Open up your Carpentry Manual. It looks exactly like a Fruit Changer/Blender/Fry Pan with all those recipes. You can tell what the ingredients are. Click one. From there, the place where on a Blender you would see all the ingredients and choose how many you would like to make, press Create Layout/Workplace/Work Area/ETC. This will take 10-50 energy (staff decide, give input please).   Anyways, we want a Sign. Choose that, make layout… lose 10-50 energy. So do what I said above… put in all the materials… and not in any order. For every 2-ish Planks, you need a couple Nails. And you can’t just do it all in one day, even if you have all the materials. There’s a max progress. I think the total time (if you worked everyday) for a sign would be about 3 days… everything would be around a week. Unless it was a really special item…   Trying to make do more work? Good for you! But this Sign has already had enough progress for one day. Try again tomorrow! You lose 20 mood.   Remember, just to put in the Planks/Nails, you need to use energy and those handy dandy Saws/Hammer! Time/energy consuming… What more would you like!? =D   Once all the tools are put in, you can then MAKE the sign! =D This basically ‘finishes’ the Sign. Makes sure everything is in place… glue it together… plastic laminates it… glosses it and makes it shiny… whatever. This will take energy and a considerable amount of time and use from your tools. Once it’s done, you have a Sign! Or whatever item.

 ~||The Use of a Sign||~

A sign is a more permanent note. People cannot just take it and go. This is a good way to make announcements (like a piggy protection program…. subway station 3 streets right… garage sale 2591 Rekan Flux Quarter… etc.). You can even Hammer in normal notes (with a Nail) on a Sign for more space! (Of course, people can take these notes for about 5 energy (well, it’s not that easy removing Nails)).   When you Finish the Sign in your house, you get the Sign ITEM. ITEM. Like a note… or something. It has the normal choices. Give… Drop… Etc. Items can also be taken apart (? ???) for SOME of the materials used. Signs can also be Eat-ed. (lose LOTs of mood and energy trying to get it down your throat… and a Splintery Throat buff in which you lose mood every couple minutes, and after running/jumping a lot, you start coughing for a while, and you can’t eat (or food only gives partial reward) XDD this is a partial joke). To actually put up the Sign, you have the choice of Planting it. Anchoring it (best so far). Put Up. Etc. This will take energy as well. Maybe this will take Rope (/yarn)?   As long as you’re standing somewhere, you have this option (maybe if you’re standing on rock, you need to ‘dig’ a hole/use more energy/cannot anchor at all). If you confirm the popup, the sign will go up wherever you are. BEWARE, THIS BE PERMEANT (well, you can’t get it back fully). Be careful you don’t Drop it, as it just lies down like a normal item and is not put up (so people can steal it).   If you do say yes, the sign is planted wherever you are. Be careful you don’t Drop it, as it just lies down like a normal item and people can steal it.

  Signs WILL be pretty rare and be valuable. Maybe even a couple hundred currants. 500-1000C? Remember, the procedure is frustrating.   You tried to hammer in that nail, but you seemed to hit everywhere BUT the nail! You also destroyed 3 planks in your rampage, and you now have to replace them.   Other items will also be pretty valuable. Remember. Carpentry. A fun feature. Like furniture!

~||PENPERSONSHIP PART – DRAWING ON SIGNS||~

 With Penpersonship, and a Black Marker (or just a normal quill? please read my (unmade) idea of black marker drawing), you can DRAW on the sign! You would be given an empty box to type in (unless my Black Marker idea came to life); you will not actually draw.   You can only draw on an empty sign. This doesn’t have to be your sign. It could be anybody’s… as long as it’s empty (so it’s recommended to draw on your signs before you anchor them as I’m sure tons of fast trolls lurk everywhere waiting for somebody to anchor them only to come and draw !#@)*$)(*@$)#* @ on them). Signs will last for about a REAL LIFE weeks. Or something. Or random. Or changes depending on area as weather conditions apply. The forces of nature will slowly deteriorate the sign (but we can still see the worlds clearly, just the outline of the sign will look bad). Only the person who anchored the Sign has the power to deanchor a Sign. You know, other than staff. There should be a list of all Signs for staff to access so they can disable spam (?) and take away the permission for a person to draw on signs for a while if they don’t listen to warnings. If you accidentally spam a sign, just report a bug and you will cleared. Once you deanchor a sign and more than a day has passed, you will not get the Sign back, only some materials that have survived (the longer it’s been up, the less materials). Remember, this only applies to Signs. Rocking Horses will NOT die.

~||End Sign Obsession, Start Discussing More About Skills||~

 Other items include Rocking Horses (second level after Signs), Wooden Heart (for your Emotional Bear ?), and much much MORE! (GLITCHES, GIVE ME YOUR IDEAS AND THE POSSIBLE INGREDIENTS AND I WILL PUT UP). Carpentry is a nice business… You can make useful tools… furniture… somehow include this into other skills. Like Sawdust in Sawdust Sandwich. Or something.   Maybe for the character limit… we would have small sign (500 characters?), medium sign (1000) and big sign (1500-2000?)… of course, signs would have scrolly bars as well XD   ~||Skills||~ One Carpentry skill… Or Carpentry I II III? More quests… more recipes… I think just 2 levels would be okay. Basic to medium for 1 and really complicated stuff for 2. If 2 takes an emblem… well… we could introduce a whole new set of skills with the SECOND emblem of a giant to unlock them! =D

 ~||Quests||~

 Rock Rock Rock Your Horse For the first one… well, make 2 signs, and stick them up. Make some horsies and sit on them. (horses are used for mood and destroying everybody else in the room’s meditation concentration). Etc.! (this part really needs more ideas).

:D Sorry if it’s confusing… XD I WILL try to fix this. (Well, I just did) PLEASE PLEASE give your thoughts and suggestions. I will add them up. Anywhere there is a ? up there, that needs more detail. ANYTHING needs details.

  • I like these ideas Palindrome!  Signs would be very useful.  The first apartment in had in Louise Pasture had a sign board in the lobby, and it was nice to see people leave messages for each other.  Maybe there could be signs (at least) on residential blocks in other areas and inside/outside houses.

  • -1  No matter how expensive you make this, there are a lot of players who can easily build tons of resources.  I imagine that in a couple weeks the whole environment will be blanketed with signs about auctions, trading cubimals or insulting other Glitches.  No thanks.

  • Perhaps limiting the areas that you can place signs (to the left of left-side street markers, to the right of right-side street markers, at ends of lobbies in apartment buildings, at ends of suburb streets, etc.) would help with spam problems, and, unless you choose to scroll past street markers or to the ends of suburb streets or lobbies, you don't have to deal with them if you don't like them.
