My response to Feats...(misunderstood...LMG corrected my brain)

I know this will come across as complaining, or whining to some, and will probably piss some off (since I am known to bring that reaction to some.....if it does, Im sorry)...

I loved it when Feats were once in a while, or even just once a week. They seemed random and fun, spontaneous and made me think "OMG, GOTTA DO IT!".  But, with there being a new feat every 24 hrs, it seems kind of blah and I wonder, is this the future of the game? Is this what we are to do every single day?

I am not sure what I expected, honestly. Feats, yeh, they are not holding my attention at all.  I love Glitch, and as a Moly player I was hoping for more.  I tried to create more fun for myself, I tried telling myself that farming over and over and over was fun...but really, it isn't.  I find myself bored a lot lately, and very ho-hum.

Anyway, my point was, feats were a lot more interesting when they werent 24 hrs a day, every single day.  Once a week, or once every two weeks was much more exciting.

  • There's only one every 24 hours over the past few days because they're part of an Epic (several feats in a row that link together for a huge event). I don't understand them to be something that will happen every day.

  • Ahhh, thank you LMG. I totally missed that!! So, that means that once this epic feat is in place, then we wont have them again for a while?

But, if we didnt completely one of the parts of the epic, that means we failed the entire epic feat?  So, why continue?

  • I'm guessing we won't have them but as you were saying, every few weeks or so. And it may sometimes be an Epic like this and it may sometimes just be a single feat. At least that's what my understanding was. :)

ETA: I do agree, if I believed them to be every day, they wouldn't be as exciting.

  • I think they said when we get a feat and fail it, we get a make-up feat, which is why I think this Epic may even be longer than originally intended.

  • I believe Stoot said they would be weekly.

But I totally disagree: OMG GOTTA DO IT has led to a lot of frustrated and bitter people who were repeatedly told they will be regular things but didn't seem to process that.  Becoming regular parts of the game that are optional is much better -- there will actually be variety in the leaderboard based on who is actually into it rather than the same people that don't mind grinding and have lots of time on their hands.

  • Sauce, it has however seemed like it has been you either have tons of time on your hands to stand around doing a repetitive act, or tons of time on your hands to grind one object over and over.

    Just eh....

  • I'm not sure I understand your post, do you mean me personally?

Anyway, that's what feats will be -- stoot said they will always be rather simple for the foreseeable future.

I'm much more happy that I can take or leave them as they come rather than hope really really hard that the only feat for the next three months doesn't come on a day where I have things to do or places to be.

  • Weekly does sound familiar. Maybe that's what I read. Well, I don't mind that either. I just wouldn't like them 365 days of the year, because then they don't really feel like 'feats'. :)

I'd like them to happen often enough that I don't feel like I've missed out if I can't spend the time to work on all of them. Weekly or bi-weekly seems like a good tempo to me. I just enjoy seeing how it plays out, regardless of all else.

  • Well, they are asking for ideas http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/27987/

Though coming up with a collaborative action that cannot be grinded is really difficult. You're wanting something that is measurable, repeatable, and not grindy...but by making it repeatable it can also be grindy!

If it's not repeatable then everyone gets a +1 which can also be dissatisfying...though one feat of the many feats which would merely count participating would be ok.

  • There was a blog post which covers many of these points: www.glitch.com/blog/2012/10...

Feats will not be an everyday occurrence — indeed, this Epic would be over in a few hours, but for the make-up feat. Should wrap up in about 25.5 hours.

  • Yeh, I totally missed the part in the blog where it mentioned epic feats. It was my bad, stoot. Sorry.

  • I've actually been actively avoiding being on when feats were active. Just not my thing and I didnt' want to get bombarded with stuff about them so I've just stayed offline.

It's fairly easy to avoid them entirely.  Herb gardening on home streets, for example, has been quieter and more profitable while everyone was mining sparkly or doing whatever other feat was active.
