[unofficial] Glitch opening announcements

The plan is later today (Thursday) until Sunday.  Tentatively, we plan to open around 11 am Pacific.
More coming 'soon'. :)
Pepper_Rose

We'll open when we're ready folks- any test open times we communicate are approximate in case we run into issues before we are ready to go. ;)
kevbob

We're getting there!  Just hang on tight!

  • LOL Aero, I like your positive style;)  But I think the Tiny Speck family might just be taking a little break right now (actually most might still be sleeping) and then working on what needs to be done in time for the next test!...which is...

    according to this post ........

    :-)

  • Well I, for one, support Mr. Aero and his request, no matter how unlikely it may be.
Posted 17 months ago by Tanukihat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • lol.. thanks Tanukihat
Posted 17 months ago by Aero Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh I didn't say I didn't support it, hmm but then I didn't say I do, did I?

    OK +1 ;-)

  • Lets say.. if we all ask.. they might just open it for a few hours...

  • I like to think that the Devs deserve a day or two to rest up relax and have fun away from the game, its that thought that stops me from continuously hitting the F5 button.

They worked very hard to set up the test, then they work very hard to monitor, fix and keep the game running smoothly while it is up, they take time out to get involved in game which always make it feel special for me. Even after it closes for us theres a heap of behind the scenes stuff to do.

So yeah rest, relax and re- energise.

I guess some of us need to do that too lol I certainly do hehee

  • They'll open it when needed and when ready :)
Posted 17 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Actually, it's worth remembering that, as Faereluth says, tests = monitoring = staff.

Which is why the tests are rarely run at weekends - when the game's open for testing, there's usually a developer or two handy to keep an eye on things and kick the http://beta.glitch.com/items/gameserver/ if necessary.

Developers are a funny breed and work funny hours (I'm writing Javascript on a Sunday right now) but we do like a little time off every now & then. That and pizza.

  • And considering they say 'late next week' really implies that they need a well-deserved break. :)
Posted 17 months ago by Hburger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I hope the SF crew are getting better weather for their time off than the Vancouver crew are... it's been a thoroughly miserable weekend... best place to be is inside writing code :-)
Posted 17 months ago by Snazzlefrazz Subscriber! | Permalink
  • what about Today?
Posted 17 months ago by Aero Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Nice try, Aero!

Alas, I think "late next week" is going to be Friday or (bite my tongue!) Saturday. Maybe I'm just practicing denial so I can be pleasantly surprised on Thursday...

  • Close but no cigar also when the game is reset what do I lose Xp? Achievements? Items? Everything?!
Posted 17 months ago by Zephod Beblbrox Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @zephod - yes, everything except clothing and the character itself.
Posted 17 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @zephod - and stockpiled credits and tokens and votes. And your friends and groups. And (most likely) very specific "useless" specialty items. And (possibly) very specific special event trophies.

And your self-respect. You don't lose that.

  • The weather has been extremely nice in California, so they are more than likely enjoying a little summer break, everyone else here is.  You know time for the beach, sun, surf, boardwalk.  Fun stuff otherwise their poor minds will become dull and boring, which would reflect on our game.  So I'll just do the same, have some outside fun and "later in the week" wonder when the game will open.  I'll try this new approach...  What does F5 do anyways?
Posted 17 months ago by xoxJulie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not all of them are likely enjoying a little summer break, because I see people on line... WAaahhhhh Let us in tooo!!!
    Please please, Pretty Please?

  • For the last time, to all the new players, this game is in beta, which means it works in functions. It opens for 3-5 days, closes for a few days, then reopens. The only people who are online during closed are the devs because they are testing stuff or playing.

We already know when the game is going to open again so just chill and stop making new topics for questions that have already been asked/answered.

  • Julie, the F5 key is the refresh screen key...works like the reload button on your browser...so when people are saying they are hitting the F5 key, they are refreshing the browser to see if the closed sign is gone on the main page.

ETA: that's for the PC...I saw in another thread that you don't have a PC, so I don't know if it is the same on a Mac or if there is another key used for refresh there.. probably something with a screen picture maybe?

  • xoxJulie,
Tiny Speck operates out of  Vancouver B.C. Canada and San Francisco; so they are not affected by California weather as the weather in Northern California is always blissful....

  • Folks, we expect to be open a little later this week!

Once we finish a test we have a lot of work to do to get ready for the next one- we go over things that broke, how other bug fixes made before fared, getting new things prepped etc., so we don't just flip the game on and off for a few hours. (We did very short tests before, but we're consistently doing them multi-day now, and those are what we prep for now.)

    "Tiny Speck operates out of..."

We operate in front of computer screens indoors that are not affected by weather patterns, fair or foul, so we're working with our eyes towards the next test. :)

  • And here I thought that San Francisco was part of California...

  • Thanks for the update kevbob!!!!  : )
Posted 17 months ago by Molly Subscriber! | Permalink
  • as we say in our family, thank you bob!
Posted 17 months ago by greenkozi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • SF is part of California but we in SF know that SF doesn't always operate weather wise like the rest of California. :D
Posted 17 months ago by Cat Mihos Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thank you kevbob knowing that you will open a little later in the week means that we are now one day closer to testing day. YaY!
Posted 17 months ago by Chicalet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Just read this thread.... yeah, if the devs only worked when the weather was bad then they would almost never work--California has great weather almost all year (if you define sunshine as great weather). Thank you for not doing that, Tiny Speck! Now... get back to work!

And players, please have some patience--if it wasn't for this down time we wouldn't get any cool new updates!
Posted 17 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • How can you "see" people on line, I can't even figure out when my friends are on line.  No f5 doesn't refresh my screen, I thought by emptying my cache it would reload.  Easiest is just for me to use the black arrow on upper left hand side go back and then forward.

Napa one thing I learned from growing up in the s.f. bay area is that San Francisco weather is different than anybody else.  I do know it's better than Vancover's since it raining there and yeah Napa, Calistoga has really sweet weather, grapes love it.

  • Tiny Speck is Everywhere!!

Truly!  Not all the devs live in SF or Vancouver.
Posted 17 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Julie...go to your friends page...if you have the devs as friends, you'll see them roaming around different game locations...even when the game is closed...leaving us mere glitchens to wonder what they are up to...
Posted 17 months ago by b3achy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "California has great weather almost all year (if you define sunshine as great weather)."

don't let the sunshine fool you!

SF has very interesting weather where you look outside and it looks like a warm, sunny day until you step outside and brrr there's this light, chilly breeze.

so then you scurry back inside and put on another layer.
Posted 17 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, sure, striatic--but not in July. Plus, the sunny winter days mean it's 40 or 50 degrees instead of 20 or 30.... so, "better" (if you like that sort of thing), then other places in the U.S.. I lived in California for over 3 years, by the way. Too hot in the summer, but at least it wasn't hot with humidity, which can feel worse (like what I'm experiencing right now--90's with almost 100% humidity and raining almost everyday). Winters required a coat, but still not cold enough to snow where I was (San Francisco if further north than LA where I was, so that would make it a bit cooler, but being so close to the ocean also means it will be warmer than further inland during the winter, and cooler during the summer... so more pleasant overall).
Posted 17 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • They CAN but they WON'T. Why? Because they don't want us to play a crap game, they want us to play a good game.
Posted 17 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Also, I hate California weather during the summer. I want cool weather all year long. :P
Posted 17 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I know that the devs are working their asses off so we can have an awesome game, and I appreciate that as much as everyone else here. I just wanted to say that, and by begging to be let in with my whiny messages, I hope that it just lets everyone know that I have fallen in love with glitch and can't wait for the grand opening!!
Posted 17 months ago by Chicalet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • OK..let's all relax and mediate..."life is good, other people are not strange"..the game will open when it does...so think of that pretty blue marble (perchance made to resemble earth from outer space)..and put things in perspective...That being said, should we storm the gates?
Posted 17 months ago by MisAdventure Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Can someone resurrect the MALWRU...at least for a couple days of entertaining reading while waiting...especially if there is a plan to storm the gates...would love to read the scenes leading up it... :)

ETA: I see KKC already did...

  • "The coldest winter I ever spent, was a summer in San Francisco."  (Attributed to Mark Twain, but he never really said this...)

Regardless, there's a reason this quote is so repeated.  I remember moving from Reno to San Fran in the middle of August.   I was very unprepared for the drop in temperature.

I loved San Fran though... I just couldn't afford to live there and eat at the same time :)

  • The coldest summer I ever spent was in San Francisco searching for misattributed quotes.
Posted 17 months ago by kevbob Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Now is the summer of our discontent, kevbob. (I'm searching for misquoted quotes, you see.)

And by the way, you can find a lot of marvelously, hilariously, on-purposely misattributed quotes in the writings of Dave Barry.

  • As MLK jr once said "Is the game opening tomorrow?"
Posted 17 months ago by Violet Faulds Subscriber! | Permalink
  • LMFAO VIOLET I hope that's a reference to that stupid quote everyone was throwing around months ago that everyone attributed to him even though he never said it.

  • Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do to bribe the devs to open the damn game already?

  • @Cerulean It was. ;)

  • I could give them some cupcakes to celebrate my birthday while we play Glitch tomorrow!

Edit: But we have to start early, because I have dinner plans!
