Proxy issue?

Error #2048

I assume this is an authenticated proxy issue :(

I have installed the debugger version of Flash but it does not seem to be working - I get a basic error message saying the above and suggesting I install the debugger version.

But hey, that is why I am an alpha tester :p

  • We suggest everyone uses the debugger version because it gives us more information from Flash errors.

Does your internet connection go through a proxy?

  • yep, I go through a proxy permanently. As I said, I have downloaded and installed the debugger - in one FaceBook flash game, it was popping up an error message. However with Glitch there was just an error window with the message above.

I use several browsers on the Mac - Chrome, FF, and sometimes Flock.

  • Completely uninstalled Flash Player and reinstalled the debug version, but when I check on the Adobe site, it still says Debug Player :No. Confused :/

Is there an online version/site for debugging? I remember I used one before for a previous beta game. I would love to be able to get online with the game in time for the next test.

  • Ok, just tried in Firefox and that says Debug Player : Yes.

The previous browser was Chrome, which I remember reading somewhere does not play so nicely with Glitch for some reason.

I am on a Mac, 10.6.6, and as I stated earlier, connect through a work proxy - even in the evenings. This is an authenticated proxy, which is usually fine when the password has been received at their end.

  • Hi riscy! I wasn't suggesting that not having a debugging Flash player was the problem. What I meant was, we want people to use it because when people submit bug reports, we can pull specific debugging information that is not available when using the standard Flash player and can help us identify a client-specific problem much faster. The problem is likely proxy related, like you already guessed based on the error and I don't have a specific solution for this at this time, but am searching around. Chrome is not likely the culprit here anyway (I use it frequently to play with). The reason you don't see the debug player in Chrome is that is uses an integrated Flash player which gives you different results on the 'What Flash version am I running?' pages. You can specify it use the independently installed version based on instructions you can read here: bit.ly/esellT However, I don't think that solve the problem for you. Do you have no option but to connect through the work proxy when not at work? It would be interesting to see the result. There is a chance we may not be able to help in this instance, but as I mentioned, I am looking around for a solution that might work for you.

  • thanks for the reply :)

No, I do not have an option to connect to the interwebs :( but hey, I can test problems with an authentictaed proxy - let's look at the positive, eh?

I now have the debugger working in FF, and also found this option as well addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fi... which might be easier for the standard user.

I always suspected the proxy was (and would be an issue), but hey, you as devs need to know so you can work through these issues - as more people sign up this will eventually become more of an issue. As much as I would love to play, I can try to help in ways to "get around" these problems - I hope.

Let me know how I can help.

  • I went to this Adobe page: www.adobe.com/support/flash...

If I'm using Firefox, which one do I need to download?
