The First Feat!!!

You know the legend of Groddlocritus right? The great philosopher who discovered Imagination in the first place? Then you certainly know of his legendary meditation which lasted 11,113 minutes. It was a Feat which echo'd through history, right to the present moment. If we Glitches can united to re-create this week during the next six game days (the new "game week!") then ... something cool will happen.

UPDATE (one hour later): We've fixed the bug which prevented the correct display of your own contribution. Everyone's previous meditation counted towards advancing the overall goal (yay!) but until a few minutes ago the individual contributions were not correctly recorded.

So, take heart from your anonymous gift to your fellow players — the advancement of towards the goal of re-creating an ancient feat is a wonderful thing! — and take heart also from the fact that your individual contributions will now be recorded properly.

  • GOD Oh, and, to be clear: the total will keep going up even though the goal was reached (think of it like Kickstarter, but more lore-filled and historic and intriguing). Which means the leaderboards will continue to shift around. That probably won't happen for future feats. That's it for now. Thanks! Love you! Bye!

    ^Good to know.

  • "contributors towards the Feat will get some rewards"

because some of us have to work/sleep/are in the wrong time zone we miss out on stuff? that hardly seems fair.

  • Hey what the ....? I was a Junior Associate Hero for about 5 minutes and now the list of Junior Associate Heroes got super short and ... :-(((

I mean, once you make a glitch a Junior Associate Hero, shouldn't there be at least some kind of consolation trophy when you suddenly change your definition? I wouldn't mind being a Junior Junior Associate Almost Hero ...

  • Ooh good to know, i just meditated and it said it counted, so now I don't feel so left out! Thanks TS! <3

For those who are wondering: The feat was already achieved when I started meditatiting, but because of this message, I was also still able to get in:

  • Here's everything GOD had said at the end of Feat (for those who missed all the text) --

"GOD Anyway, for real: that was pretty amazing. We thought it was unlikely you'd actually be able to recreate that feat in a game-week. But, you did it in just over a game day. So .... lesson learned!"

"GOD There will be some rewards for particpation for this, but they will not be meted out until the Feat week is officially over (another 19.5 hours, real time). And, at that time, we'll also release the new stuff that this Feat unlocked."

"GOD This one was a test of the Feat broadcasting system. Went smooth. Expect more in the future. Oh, and that new stuff this feat unlocked? Well, let me say this: it is, in my most Holy and all-knowing opinion, the most fun real-time collaborative play thing we've added to the game so far. Sooooo good."

"GOD So, thank you everyone who participated! And: yes, you were underestimated. Next time you won't be so lucky … ;)"

"GOD Oh, and, to be clear: the total will keep going up even though the goal was reached (think of it like Kickstarter, but more lore-filled and historic and intriguing). • Question about Feats in general -- are they all going to be 24 hours or so or real time so that people in all time zones have a chance to participate?  Because otherwise a lot of them could be started and finished before people get home from work, or get up, or whatever, depending upon where they are located and what they do.  Of course this was a problem with street projects too,

  • Woah, just read sadie's post. I KNOW ITS BACON!! You can't hide this from me, guys. I know bacon is coming.

  • I feel bad for those glitches who have 5min cool downs now.  There is no way they can make it to the top.  Your reward for working hard ;)    Thank the giants I haven't been able to afford that big energy tank :)

  • I think re-ordering the leaderboards after the feat is over is not a good idea.
Posted 97 days ago by Pascale Subscriber! | Permalink
  • People in other time zones, etc.: Feats in general will be longer lasting, but they will also start at different times of day.

No matter what we do, some people will miss some game events (some people work swing shifts or go on vacation or have to take care of a sick relative or whatever; for that matter, some people who will eventually play Glitch haven't yet signed up so they are missing everything right now).

Obviously, the fact that some people will miss some events is not a good reason not to have events at all (the game is a lot more interesting/exciting if different things happen at different times).

  • We were told that upgrades would never penalize us. But it looks as if the long meditation cooldown was, in fact, a handicap in this particular feat. :-(
Posted 97 days ago by Pascale Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Interesting how low the energy tanks of the top people are? Certainly seems they had the advantage!

  • Pascale, re "I think re-ordering the leaderboards after the feat is over is not a good idea."

    I think that's probably true.

Never fear! I imagine a large tank will be advantageous in other feats!

  • Please Mr. Stoot... i mean the winners not even the winner anymore... plus lots of people got dethroned
Posted 97 days ago by Frowning Flounder Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think my concern about the fairness of this would be assuaged if there were some assurance that the rewards for participating in this were something that will be obtainable by other means (i.e. NOT a "participated in the first feat evar" trophy/badge).

Posted 97 days ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Janngo: there's an update in the original post — for a time at the beginning, some contributions were not counted.
Posted 97 days ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink

  • thanks stoot.
Posted 97 days ago by juv3nal Subscriber! | Permalink
  • All right, so to appease the people who could not participate at the time of this particular feat, you've completely abandoned acknowledging the original Junior Assistant Heroes...and the other tiers... what was the point of attempting this again? I feel idiotic for contributing while the feat was being completed towards the goal.

  • Me two... im still kinda bummed about being dethroned two :(.
I'd guess higher levels of heroism and legendism whould entail more img but i guess we dont know till it happens
Posted 97 days ago by Frowning Flounder Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Blinkie Pie, this is only a test, the prizes and other things are probably not finalized. Future feats will most likely be better.

  • After they got rid of the street projects, I was hoping for less dumb collaborative actions, not more dumb -_-
I feel sad for the "heroes" that clicked the same button all day
Did my best to avoid the feat, and now my meditation is "contributing" even if I don't want to...
Posted 97 days ago by Lemo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yup, Glichen, it was a test of a new, awesome feature.  There'll be more.  This one happened to be exactly perfect during my prime Glitch time, but maybe the next one will be while I'm at work.  Thems the breaks, as my uncle told me.

Posted 97 days ago by Janngo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Lemo what was dumb about it? I had tons of fun talking in Cerbarkul with everyone while we meditated, seems like they did too! It was much more accessible than the street projects of yore.
Posted 97 days ago by Rev. Desdemona Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Agreed Desdemona (athough i thought Othello killed you). it was awesome
Posted 97 days ago by Frowning Flounder Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sorry if it was dumb! I did a lot of dumb things in this feature, too (like not counting contributions properly), and we're all still figuring out how it should all work. Lots of good ideas in this thread, some of which have been implemented already. The next Feat will be better, I promise.
Posted 97 days ago by Myles! Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well you can go to Cebarkul anytime to talk with people, you don't need a "feat" for that
Posted 97 days ago by Lemo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That doesn't explain what you thought was dumb about it. If you explain what was dumb or why you thought it was dumb, then it might give them ideas to improve it.
Posted 97 days ago by Little Miss Giggles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, I'm really not seeing what was supposedly so dumb about it. Pressing the same button all day? Well yeah, of course. I actually spend like 90% of my time in Glitch pressing one of only 6 keys: up, down, left, right, enter, space. With feats those keys do one thing, with gardening another, with hunting quoins in the treetops another.

If you're not interested in feats--if they don't inspire you to want to press those keys (though I think it's a little early to make a definite opinion about that, it's your prerogative)--then don't. Just like some people hate mining and some people hate Radial Heights and some people hate cleaning up messy garden plots.

But let's try not to insult the devs for creating and other players for enjoying a new reason to press some keys and push some buttons. Whatever tickles your pickle. Or doesn't.

  • I found this to be quite fun!!
Tho, I did find the counter thingie to be a bit confusing til Magic Monkey showed me where it was (ty, Magic...I had been looking for it in the game, thought it would be somewhere on the screen)

I can hardly wait til we have more things like this to do!! Ty TS!!

ETA: - And, stoot...that's not dumb, that's called beta and it's how we all learn what works, what doesn't and what needs to be added, deleted or tweaked 8^D
Posted 97 days ago by sgjo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It would be interesting if feats had multiple levels (think bronze, silver, gold or whatever).  That would solve some of the problems with calibration because you could always have one difficulty level that you're pretty sure can be met and throw in another that you think is insane.
Posted 97 days ago by Meromorphic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I can see a lot of fun with this.  Perhaps a strange story that describes a few different actions a Glitch could take with a progress bar that doesn't tell us what it is measuring.  Feats that involve finding special items hidden throughout the world and bringing them somewhere.  Feats connected to something like the smuggler missions.  Or maybe mini-games that drive the progress bar like, oh who knows, jumping over barrels or jumping from moving platforms with points for how far you get or how long you last.  Feats with multiple possible endings that could serve as a vote that includes everyone, perhaps a favor race between all 11 giants with content or bonuses or items inspired by the winning giant.

    Very cool indeed.
Posted 97 days ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Missed this, but here's my question about future feats...what if they're not obtained? It just delays the release of content, right? You're not making content we'll never see, right? RIGHT? Otherwise, I'll be in Vancouver shortly with my Resume. I've been here since Alpha, Stoot, I NEED TO SEE It ALL.

In other news, Merrylegs needs to sleep.
