Rube presence indicator other than music?

Since I sometimes play at work (I know, I'm bad) I have to keep the volume off and I can't use headphones so I can hear if someone starts talking to me.  This means I've missed the Rube a few times because he moves so slowly and the only indication he's there is the change in music - and the local chat, but that gets spammed with so many messages I don't pay much attention to it.  Maybe a pop-up box like the one we get when there's a delivery, shown only to the player the Rube is there for?

  • Someone once suggested having a yellow dot on the local map to indicate the exact location of the rube. If I can find the post I'll link to it. A lot of people would like more visual clues for the rube. My PC has no stereo equipment, and my headphones are poor quality so I often worry about missing a rube encounter. Thanks for bringing attention back to this topic, Gwynhefar!

  • In addition to local chat, there is often, thought not always, a black pop-up in the top left-hand corner telling you the Rube is there for you. I just wish it was consistent.

  • A warning would be great. Sometimes I play late at night and the sound is turned way down.
Also , maybe more glitches could put it into local chat when they find rube and say who he is there for-just as a friendly Glitch thing to do ;)

  • +1 This would also be good for deaf or hard-of-hearing Glitches.

  • I usually will put in local chat who the Rube is for if not me...the problem I have found is that sometimes, Rube's music doesn't play...so...there does need to be another notification system for the Rube.

  • Another indicator of some sort would be nice, but I'm not sure I like the idea of a big pop-up for just the person. Part of the "fun" of rube is hearing the music and wondering who he is there for, a visual indicator that could mimic that would be nice... a quick Rube Alert in the lower corner of the screen.

And, like others have suggested, be kind to your fellow glitches. If you see Rube on the street, shout in the local chat where he is (I always go in the wrong direction, heh) & if you know who he's for, mention that, too.

  • Maybe something like the rook attacks where the rock changes into a Rube head ?

  • I agree with the pop-up like the mail and the little dot on the street map because although looking for him and wondering who it is for is fun, some people are in the middle of something and don't have time to look. I only notice the rube about once a week without my sound that I hardly ever have on and with only tiny notifications in the far-most corners of the screen.

  • (edited as only read some posts and not others :))

Agree!  That said, I play without sound and have apparently had no troubles since the notification was implemented.  (Unless I missed it and didn't know.)..  I tend to keep a close eye on notifications, although the system is not exactly intuitive.  I didn't know the Rube notification was inconsistent, though?

  • I also always play with the sound turned off.  And I very seldom look at the chat windows.

Does the Rube sometimes NOT get close enough for you to see if it is there for you?

If so, a visual clue needs to be added for people who don't hear the music.

  • I'm in support for this. I'm deaf, so all sound notifications're useless to me.
