Glitch mysteries...

Here's one: Why is it that Awesome Stew (200 energy) sells for as much as 250 at auction, while Meat Tetrazzini (192 energy) struggles to fetch 170?

  • maybe because one gives more shrine points?

  • I would guess, rightly or wrongly, Awesome Stew being the "best" will get a elevated price. There is a certain extra value of being able to cram more energy into a stack.

  • because people would rather buy awesome stew, so meat tetrazzini gets less business : ]

and people are willing to pay more per energy unit, since they care about inventory space and awesome stew gives more energy per space.

HA, fooled you. I'm NOT striatic. :D

  • Ha ha cupcake. :-)

I totally get all that, but I think the price difference is pretty big for just 8 measly extra points of energy.

Maybe people just don't know about meat tetrazzini? It needs a snazzy advertising slogan like this:

Tetrazzini: when you care enough to buy the second best thing. Woo!

  • Tetrazzini: almost as good as the first leading brand.

  • Only 1 point difference in donation value too if I recall how that is calculated (price/10).

  • Eventually, stoot said, the 'fixed' values will be unpinned.  The current cost is more thumbnailed, I think, than, explicitly pinned to value.

  • When it comes to donation value, it's definitely not a good idea to buy awesome stew at auction, because you're almost always paying more than 10 to 1. Better to convert your cash into stuff from a vendor at that point.

Ok. Now I sound like striatic.

  • Shhhh, dont' take away my cheap food!

    1. Buy Tetrazzini
    2. Make Awesome Stew
    3. Sell Stew
    4. PROFIT!!

  • What about Fortifying Gruel? It gives 191 energy and is #3 in the top energy giving list:

    Awesome Stew (200 energy)
    Meat Tetrazzini (192 energy)
    Fortifying Gruel (191 energy)

Whenever I run out of beans I hop on the gruel wagon hehe... just need to have some oats handy is all.

  • Is Awesome Stew more well known because of the immense flatulence it generates? Got to admit... 20 beans per stew is an awful lot of gas generation!

  • Should rename it "Awesome chili"!

  • I wonder if we can eventually get oats from more than a vendor? This list reminded me of my frustration  in always lacking that.
Posted 16 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Fool you can already buy oats from vendors. Grocery or produce, I don't remember which.
Posted 16 months ago by Skwid Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I meant producing them myself, not buying from a vendor. :)

  • oh, I totally read that wrong. And to think I once got a perfect score on the ACT's reading comprehension section....
Posted 16 months ago by Skwid Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I actually fell asleep during my ACT. :)  Still got damn high scores. I don't know if that actually saying something about me, or something about the ACT. :p

  • Awesome stew is popular because it begins with an 'A' and is at the top of the list. People are too lazy to scroll. Meat tetrazzini is way down the list and so less popular. That's my theory, anyway.

  • I love making these foods. I eat them and give them away. Sell foods? I don't even...

  • you got it all wrong guys. the answer's simple - awesome stew just tastes better.

  • I think it's because it has "Awesome" in the name. Perhaps we should rename Meat Tetrazzini to "Massively Meaty Tetrazzini"! That sounds pretty epic imo. (It's also scarily alliterative)

  • (is this what stoot meant by in-game advertising?)

  • i tested this last test!

last test i made a bunch of Abbasid Ribs, Ix Style Braised Meat and Awesome Stew, and sold them all at 1 currant per energy unit.

i thought that Awesome Stew would do the best, since it has the best energy per slot [uses up the least inventory for the energy it provides]

but it didn't! shocking i know.

not sure why, but i think it had something to do with the up front cost of the awesome stew being prohibitive. also, awesome stew doesn't sell very quickly at 250 very often. people *list* it at 250 but from what i saw a lot of the stews listed that high tended to languish.

ix-style braised meat didn't do well at all. it is down the /cat-food/ list a ways, and the illustration isn't very appetizing. i have this theory that the illustration matters but that's difficult to prove.

abbasid ribs sold amazingly. low up front cost, top of the /cat-food/ list and a good looking illustration prompted plenty of sales.

after a while i got tired of waiting for awesome stew to sell and mentioned [spammed, once] global chat to mention that i had put some up for "cheap" relative to the other awesome stews on offer - and they were all gone in moments. i was mostly doing it to test and won't be doing it again, but spam works i guess : /

  • Awesome also takes a lot of BEANS to make, thus a lot more labour intensive! :-)

I also use Fortifying Gruel as a backup!  Hmm hope oats aren't nerfed! :-O

  • Along a similar line, 2 tests back I was regularly selling earthshakers for ₡250 each. Last test ₡160 seemed to be the going rate and right now you can buy 2 at auction for ₡137!
Posted 16 months ago by Hawkwell Subscriber! | Permalink
  • jobynana, actually it isn't that bad. it requires a lot of beans but other than beans it only requires garden crops and meat, which grow and collect themselves in your backyard. you don't have to travel the world gathering both bubbles and spice like with some other foods, so you save labour in that respect.

but yeah .. in my personal opinion Abbasid Ribs are the ultimate foodstuff. they require only spice and meat. they might not net as much energy as awesome stew, but you can produce a ton of them very quickly due to their lack of complexity and low ingredient count.

plus the ribs are at the top of the /cat-food/ list which makes them great at auction.

    Abbasid Ribs, the ultimate foodstuff!

  • @Hawkwell, you should attempt to collude with the other earth shakers sellers and form a cartel to get the price back up.

  • I notice that 100 metal ores fetched more currants than 20 metal ingots (100 metal ores smelted)...

  • I still only eat pig meat from my collectors at home.  It's raw, it's free (after the cost of meat collector), it pays for itself (I keep the meat collector full of raw meat so my pigs don't die), and nobody has reported me to the ASPCA or PETA yet.

  • @stri, oh yes, I agree, it's one of the simpler recipes to make but, despite having 2 bean trees in my yard as well as  going  out to harvest them, I just keep running out of beans LOL!  But maybe yuo are right about the ribs...I might just make more of them instead, besides, they look much tastier:P

PS: Half the time I just fry eggs. a stack of 40= 1000+ energy. I'm serious.
