Reset and public opening?

Has there been any evidence that the beta player reset and the public opening will happen simultaneously? Everyone starts at Square One, tabla rasa, clean start? Or will beta testers go through reset, start over and get some time to rebuild themselves before we start seeing waves of new folks coming in publicly?

Also, is there a possibility of the game going 24/7 during beta? Or is that only going to happen when the game opens to the public?

I apologize if these questions have already been addressed. I tried a few searches and came up empty handed.

  • I believe you get to keep your clothes, character.. But you lose all achievements, currants, houses.. Not 100% sure.

  • Well, though I have never read anything posted by a dev that says it exactly - I do believe its safe to say that we will be having a  Reset when the game opens. & it is to my knowledge the only in-game thing we will be receiving is the special item for beta testers (too lazy to find & permalink)

  • That makes it somewhat pointless to subscribe now and use those credits to purchase clothing, right? Meep!

  • Right, I knew about keeping special items, friends, groups, character. I'm just wondering if reset and public opening might be simultaneous, and when 24/7 is supposed to happen (during beta or at/after public opening).

  • We'll keep our credit purchased clothing and such...or else they wouldn't market the subscriptions the way they have been.

  • We have always been lead to believe that the purpose of the last reset will be to start everyone off with a clean slate at launch.

  • What Nutmeg said, Lilypad...that stuff won't be lost =)

  • Whew! Thank you for the clarification! (Really I just want to keep my maid's uniform and black bunny slippers!)

  • Well, I've been holding of on my subscription in part because of a reset. By then there will be more schwag and stuff to choose from by then :)

  • FF, you should buy now, because it's an extra value! It restarts the 12 months at reset....for example- I've purchased one last month- they all add up (if I didn't spend 'em!) So I got them last month, will have them next month, the next, and then when we reset, my 12 months starts then! But I don't lose what I've accumulated :D

  • Oooh, Lilypad I just got a pair of the black bunny slippers too!  I wear the blue set a little more, but I'm really hoping that a variety of bathrobes are introduced to really make the slippers pop!

  • I have heard you get to keep all your trophies....
Posted 17 months ago by napabeth Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If my memory serves right:
    - You keep anything you spent actual money on...which right now is clothes.
    - You also keep any stockpiled credits, tokens & votes.
    - You keep some specialty items. I believe right this second that would only include the Yeti. There may or may not be a the Beta Pickle by then.
    - You keep only special event trophies. At this moment that would only be the chocolate bunny from the easter egg hunt. But other trophies (say music box collecting) will not.
    - You keep all of your friends.
    - You keep all of your Groups.
    - And, yes, subscriptions don't start counting down until after launch. So if you get a credit/token allowance, the earlier you subscribe the more value you get. (I do not say this to get anyone to subscribe... but if that is what is holding you back... well, consider it. There are plenty of reasons to not subscribe [see the other dozens of threads].

BUT the original post wasn't about any of that. It was about the timing. Nothing has been said yet (and I get the sense they aren't 100% sure). If the reset will come shortly before going gold or if the game will go 24/7 before launch. I imagine that there is definitely something to be tested for longer tests than we've had. On the other hand, maybe the difference between 24/7 and 24/4 is minimal.

It was a good question that I don't believe has been asked.

  • Preface: Yes, I am full of opinions.

@Lilith- I do not know the answers to your original questions. I think glum gave the best response so far. I know some folks have asked for a head start at reset, but I don't think the wish was granted.

I did want to link you to THIS THREAD which is the best list I can remember of what will survive. I just wanted to dispel some misleading things I saw. You may want to read up and down as well within the linked thread.

ETA: LBO gave you some good info while I was typing. :)

  • I really hope they will consider some kind of staged reset.  It's not that I want a headstart, but that one of the best things about starting out for me was constantly running into higher level players who were able and happy to be pretty generous*.  It gets conversations started, and it makes newcomers feel very welcome.  If everyone's running around being level 1-5 glitchens together, it's a little harder to maintain that atmosphere, because most of your resources have to go into keeping your own character going at that stage.

*For example, I now hand out lots of butterfly milk to newbs, because I remember how tough it was to carry around a pile of lotion, massage the butterfly, find the same butterfly again (wait, no, just two with the same name, try again), and time a jump just right to milk it.  And that was when streets had maybe 5 butterflies apiece!

  • Larky, perhaps this is part of why the greeters have been imagined.  Maybe this is a role that alphas and betas would want to slip in to, especially with the reset.  So maybe being a greeter will cross over into the game at that time for those who have been "approved".  What might signify such a special status, to a real newbie as opposed to a greeter, I know not.

  • Is it just me, or is the forum more squirrelly than usual?

Thank you to the three people that actually read the original post (and I'm still hoping a dev might hop in and give us a Real Answer). ^_^

The rest of you... maybe it's time to back away from the purple flowers for a while?

ETA: That sounds bitchier than I meant it to be. Glitch is a place to have fun... carry on!

  • @ Princess:  Things may change, but at the moment, greeters meet brand new players and show them how to use a few things, like spinach and butterfly lotion, and then send them off to explore.

I am talking more about what happens after you start exploring.  There is a lot of random giving (of items and advice) that happens in the game.  I am claiming that works well because there are a lot of higher level players, relative to the number of new players, at least.  Once you get sufficiently advanced, you often have more goodies than you know what to do with.  Some of that, we just give away, as a nice little bit of kindness to someone who can use it.

If we beta players start out as level 1's with the brand new players, we simply won't have the resources to be as giving, even if we would like to be.  Remember when petting pigs and trees used to fail all the time?  I'm not suggesting anything extreme; I think even a 24 hour head start would be enough to get some players set up quite well.

  • ********

From what I read in response to clothing bought with credits, you do not keep any clothing that you bought, but instead you are given the credits you purchased AFTER beta, & they are also doubled. So for instance, if I bought the 40 pack of credits now, I would get 40. if I spent them all, once reset occurred, I would have none of the clothing items left, but I would be given 80 credits. Thats just what I was led to believe from the 'buy credits' page.

    Update: Upon rereading

"To thank you for making Glitch better, whatever you purchase during beta testing will be doubled when we launch. It's like a 2 for 1 sale: on launch day, we'll automatically deliver a matching number of credits into your account for every purchase you make now."

Maybe you do keep credit purchases & then are given the other half after launch

  • Larky, I totally get what you're saying.. guess I'm just not counting on any head start.. no matter how beneficently we might want to use it.. But we can hope :)
Posted 17 months ago by Joni Mitchell Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I see what Larky Lion is saying also, but I doubt the game will be flooding on its first day of open unless they do some serious advertising. Also, if 24 hours is enough to for beta testers to acquire what they need to help, then Im sure that the new players will be okay receiving help on their second day of playing.

  • To the original question: the launch will follow the reset. They won't happen simultaneously. I don't know how long of a gap there will be, but I'd say one day would be the absolute minimum (more likely 2-3 days and, who knows — it could be a week!) In terms of "head starts", it won't really matter: there will always be some players who start on one day and some other players who start the next day …

And there is zero chance of 24/7 operation before launch (unless you meant literally just 24 hours a day for a full week — we've done one of those in the past and will do another before launch). To us, "launch" means "24/7 availability and no more resets".

  • Thank you, Stoot! It's answers like this that make me feel like the devs not only listen to, but honestly care about what your beta testers are concerned about.

  • Grr I always catch posts after Stoot responds.  Will we be informed of the date/time the game will be made available live so we know when the game gets reset when we should check back?

  • Stoot, could we please get an approximate release/launch date/month.. if possible?
Or lets say, is the project close to completion (like is this at the 3/4 beta stage or close to something like RC date) ?
Posted 17 months ago by Aero Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Aero: They've said a time or two recently (I think in the past week or so) that the approximate launch is still at least 6 weeks away at the earliest.
