Help I just do not understand BRAIN CAPACITY

Mine is:            95/36 and 1786% time penalty??????
One friend is:   87/37 and 1364%
Another friend: 99/39 and 1861%
Another is:       99?40 and 1768% ALSO (penalty is same as mine)
Dah!  what does any of this mean can someone please explain.
I have many more skills to learn my friends..............
Do I or do I not purchase upgrades??
Oh my  older Glitch seemed so so much simpler.............
Thank you anyone who can help me "get it" I will be ever so grateful.

  • So say the data you present = X/Y and Z%

X is the number of skills you've learned.
Y is the number of skills you can learn before the time to learn each skill increases by Z times the base learning time for that skill.
Z is the number by which the base learning time is multiplied to figure out how long it will take for you to learn that skill.

  • So, you have learned 95 skills but only have 36 brain capacity. Your penalty is calculated on all skills over 36 (59 more skills than brain capacity) so you have a 1786% time penalty multiplied against the base rate of the skill you are currently learning (or about to learn). As soon as you learn a new skill that penalty will increase (because it would be 96 skills with 36 capacity, etc.).

Think of it this way, if you learn more skills, your first number (95 currently) will go up, but the second number (36 currently) will not so your penalty will increase. If you buy brain capacity cards it will decrease the penalty but, since the capacity cap is set to 60, you will always have some penalty (but it could be much faster to learn skills than it would be without the brain upgrades).

It's an investment for sure. Which is more important to you, saving imagination for other uses or learning skills as quickly as possible?

The alternative is to unlearn skills you no longer care about so that your capacity number is closer to your total skills number. Course, those unlearned skills also take time to unlearn and (at some point) you might want those skills again...

  • Keep in mind that "normal" will let you see your skill count going up from 1.2.3.4.5.6.... etc

That you are starting at 50+ is just a peculiararity of the cutover.

Edit: 20 skills and count on this alt ;)

  • It appears to work like compound interest on an investment or loan, at very close to 5% compounded per skill above your brain capacity.

If you use a compound interest generator like the one on this web page, you can enter 100 for the "current principal" (meaning learning a skill with no added "interest" would take 100% of the normal time to learn it), your skills known minus your brain capacity for the "years to grow (in the OP example, 95 - 36 = 59), and 5% for the the "interest rate" (leave "annual addition" empty or 0 and "compound interest x times annually" at 1).

The result with 59 skills over capacity is 1,779, which you can think of as percent, very close to the 1,786 reported on the Skills page. (The accurate percentage seems to be some kind of x% for so many over-learned skills and then y% for the remaining ones, but 5% somes within a very small margin of error and so is a worthwhile guide to deciding how badly you might want to raise capacity.)
