Resets

Not having experienced a reset, I was wondering when they normally occur. Do they usually happen right before a test, right after a test or sometime in between tests?

  • In between, so: both before and after ;)

We are figuring out the next reset now. We said "before the end of January" — but that is the end of today, so it will instead be "early February".

  • They usually do it right before a test.

  • How many resets have there been in total (since Glitch started Alpha testing)? I think I've been through... one? I've been here since... June/July?

  • This will be number 3 or 4. There was one when they changed from level-based to time-based skills, and there was at least one more in there somewhere.

  • Having been through several now, I dread this one. I love being so rich that I can spend my time giving newbies presents and doing silly things like building a gnome army. I'm not looking forward to a return to butterfly-based quests, sigh.

  • this will be my first reset and i'm already trembling in fear. for all of the veterans out there, were you motivated to start all over from scratch and how easy was it? I'm guessing that there are a few of you who've experienced multiple resets, but have you seen a lot of players not come back (lost interest, motivation) after one?

  • Try to remember that your purpose here is to submit ideas, bug reports, and general feedback, not to just play the game!

  • I see the reset as a chance to start over - perfect your gameplay to get back up to a decent level as quickly as possible. And, throughout the way, help in the development of the world.

Always keep a look out for bugs and help newbies. That's the way I like to play.

  • I didn't mind being reset when I went through it before. I kind of like getting to re-learn skills, since I don't have more to learn now, and I can make different decisions about what to prioritize when I do it over again. I started playing at the end of July so this will only be my second reset.

  • After further review, this is reset #3. The reset when the skills changed was the first one, and then there was one when a bunch of people (me and a bunch of people who will yell at me for forgetting their names) learned Future Technology/Master Breeder..

  • After my first reset I felt frustrated for a maybe couple hours of game play. My second reset I vowed not to go through that again so I actually stayed mostly offline until I'd leveled up my gardening skill via the magic rock's browser interface - that made it pretty painless (though I bet people who do this just don't end up at the top of the leaderboard).

  • Reading about how is the best way to make currents, it sounds like mining is the answer. Do you think the game may crash or kick us all off like it did last testing[ re the new road build in Shimila]. I just have a vision of game open and us all running for the mountains and caverns. Would that cause problems again if to many people were all in one place?

As a newbie I don't mine a re test, it is a chance to learn from my many mistakes. I did't know what a Orb was for until I got to level eight. Goodness knows how I got there with out it. I'm sure the pigs felt relived once I bought it :)

  • Great point Misha! I know I will be running to the mines first thing. If there are many many players there, performance and resource availability will be an issue. SO, I'm wondering what is the next best method for earning Currants in the early stages of the game?

  • at my second reset, I found that completing quests was actually quite lucrative. By the time I was at a level to be able to purchase a house, I had plenty of currants to spend. I think I mostly did mining to make extra money for stuff like the snow cone quest and for gems to donate to the giants.

But I do understand the appeal of it, I did that route after my first reset...I just found it pretty dull after a while.

  • Well I managed to get to level ten and buy a nice little house [4000 currents] all by the end of the last weekend testing. It was my very first testing and I do admit I was glued to it. I never once mined untill the last two short tests we had. And I'm still on level ten. Like Nanookie Nackhouse I just completed the quests. Easy one's and went the cooking route. That and was very lucky and found four bags just sat there on the ground, so was able to buy much more.
Does anyone actually know how many people there are actively playing. I totted up roughly 1000 houses so am assuming it is at least that many and a good few new ones now?

  • There are around 10,000 accounts. I don't know how many are active.

  • If you look at leaderboards the last 100+ pages are Level 1s and have less than 40xp many have 1xp. Looks like a bunch ditched during tutorial.

  • Oh yeah. A fourth of the 10,000 have XP greater than 1.

  • Dang. Talk about your short attention spans.

  • Won't those be people who played before the last reset but didn't return or set up accounts and didn't play at all?

  • looks like you have to play since the last reset to make a board
