Elemental imbalance

During last weekend's test I was trying whether it is more profitable to sell chunks of ore, or to grind them into elements, and make alchemy items with those. As expected, alchemy does pay off, even if you just vendor the powders.

But while trying that, I quickly noticed that not all elements are created equal. If you would grind 50 each from each of the 3 types of grindable ores, you'll end up with 1,500 red elements, 550 green, 400 blue, and 300 shiny. Most powders don't need three times more red than other elements, and in consequence I ended up with tons of excess red elements. Very unsatisfying.

Anyone found a good way to use the red elements?

  • I donate them.  It's not a 'good' way to use them but once you have 5000 everything over that is 'wasted' and I don't like waste.
    Even theoretical not-really-a-real-thing-a'tall waste.

  • I never thought to donate elements... great idea.  You can also get a second pouch (cheap at 50 currants) and the excess will spill over into that, I'm told.

  • I tend to try to make compounds that require more red.  Right now I'm making Cosmox and donating that.. at least a little better than just plain ol' red (Plus Cosma seems to like them )

  • Most likely more powders will be added so they can keep playing with the balance that way.

  • I think the imbalance is intentional, that some ores are more valuable than others.

(Note, too, that you can just "disperse" excess elements for modest XP, which is better than losing them. But I like the cosmox idea.)

  • I never thought of any of these solutions! (Though I did buy a second pouch during an earlier test.)

Is there a chart showing what rocks produce what elements?

  • @Helcat  I haven't seen a chart per se...  BUT my personal experience is thus:

Dullite will crush into red and green (the first 2)
Beryl will crush into red, green, and blue (the first 3)
Sparkly will crush into all 4 (red, green, blue, sparkly)

This is also why the Sparkly ores are soooo cherish and sought after :)

  • Damnit. I actually threw an elemental pouch away last test because I thought I needed the space for a bigger bag. Grr.

  • The wiki has a good breakdown of what ore will give you what element.

Dullite will give you 5 red and 8 green
Beryl will give you 20 red (talk about element imbalance), 2 green and 4 blue
Sparkly will give you 5 red, 1 green, 4 blue and 6 sparkly

  • @Cupcake - thank you!  I dont think I would have ever thought to put an elemental pouch in a bag and I do use 2 pouches for overflow, so that's an extra 30 slots :)

  • I'm glad everyone is so happy about it. BUT. Disclaimer. It could have been a bug. I know it DID fit into another bag, just not positive it WILL. We'll test next test :)

  • One thing I find a bit weird about alchemy is the energy distribution across the whole exercise. Mining and grinding is quite expensive energy-wise, but all the combining is energy free. I feel like it might make more sense to distribute the energy more evenly across all three activities?

  • Cupcake, Thanks for the info about the pouch fitting into a bag, I will try it next test. I hope it's not a bug; will have to see keep that in mind for the future, just test and see what will happen.

  • I think I read that you can put bags in the cupboard now. That'll be a big help. Might also be able to put in tool boxes?

  • @Phoebe - we can certainly put bags full of goodies in the cupboard and I did! Haven't tried a toolbox tho?

@Cupcake - fingers crossed re the elemental pouch, I will check mine first thing next test.

Man, that came off as dirtier than I meant.
