Is it Possible to Catch Butterflies?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you catch butterflies to put in your home? Is your only option to hatch them from eggs? I don't see a capture command in the list when clicking on butterflies.

I have Remote Herdkeeping and Animal Kinship VI so I'm trying to do the butterfly milking/meat collector quest, but I need to get some in my backyard first. If Animal Husbandry is needed, shouldn't it be a prerequisite skill for RHK?

  • Yupp, the only way is to hatch them from an egg. You can't capture them. (Which is ironic because you'd think it'd be easier to catch a butterfly than a pig!)

  • Animal husbandry shouldn't necessarily be a prerequisite for RHK just because you can't get butterflies off the streets. :)  You can often get baby ones on the auction house or get someone to hatch one for you. I'll hatch some for you if you like.

ETA: I wouldn't hold my breath on the net. There are several things you can "see" on the auction (greyed out) that aren't available in the game anymore or aren't put in yet. It's a possibility that it is coming, but how soon is unpredictable (as always!).

  • Egg > Caterpillar > Butterfly

I forgot about the middle step a while back & was confused too. But a chicken can incubate the egg for you & give you a caterpillar. Then take the caterpillar, go in your house & feed it there.
