  • just a thought: communize and spread through networks of trust and affinity, but don't advertise communes. ("multiply zones of opacity." "the longer we avoid visibility, the stronger we'll be when it catches up with us.")

  • Yes. Different time zones suck. We will start new in about 8 or 10 hours I think. Or sooner if other people do it. But we will be up and running again. Visit soon. :)

  • This sounds like a nice place to chill and spread some love. I think I would like to visit and kick back here :)

  • It's a lovely sharing idea ----truly, ---
-but too bad the thieves will come along and take it ALL -anything not nailed down will get taken and they won't leave anything behind in return . (and yes I know there will be times where a true "new" beginner glitchen will take several things and won't have much or anything to leave in return - I was once a new gltich myself. So by thief i am NOT referring to that type glitch at ALL ) .
Yes many glitchen will contribute and that will be a beautiful thing and frequently they outweigh the thieves- for awhile ......but then it will all be taken. Repeatedly.
Sorry to say it- it's just the truth-and it makes me sad.
The problem is we currently have no recourse against the thieves - so they will continue to thieve (and they will continue to prosper at thieveing) .

I know a commune is not the same as a private home (thanks babi - it wasnt very clear where i was going with my comment) -but the private homes experience the thievery as well. Please see my ideas forum thread if you'd like to make your voice heard about thievery from the front doorseps of private homes-www.glitch.com/forum/ideas/...

  • I've read your idea serenitycat and is a great idea for a Private Home, and I agree with this suggestion. In the Model Alalkol Home is a slight different because is a "commune" home and the will or the goal will be that one person could take what need and leave what can, in other word no locking system but only the meaning of "commune" which is and share what is a "surplus" and take what is the "need".

  • Now a little promotion. And we always can use people helping cooking and making drinks. So we can have a BIG party later. :D

  • Make many many recipes and only like stacks of 1 to 3.  It prevents some of the mass theft by a single person because they lack the space to steal it all.
Posted 12 months ago by Melting Sky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks, we are doing that. Well, with stacks of 3-8. It's getting hard after dropping a few hundred to stick to low numbers. ;)

  • We started this well knowing that some people will come and take whatever they can. It is a public space and everything dropped can be picked up by anyone.

So far we have been cleared out a few times. It is not funny or pleasant at all. There are IMO just two things we can do.

First - we give up and start looking for a private place to do this in a small circle or do nothing like that at all.

Second - we don't stop. I am with this one. The last two days I met wonderful nice and sexy people. Some stayed and helped, even for hours. Others were just happy to see this place alive. Sharing is fun and the majority seems to be with us. At least for now.

We are starting now (babi the super busy bee already did). Drop by, be kind, share (donate ha ha) and have fun!
Oh and I would do almost anything for a shisha @TS. :-D

  • Most food and ingredients you are buying at auctions now were great donations for the commune project. But no matter how rich this one guy who took hundreds of items will get, he stays still very poor inside.

    Enjoy.

  • I left a piggy feeder in the animal compound. I hope it is still there.
Posted 12 months ago by Enelyse Subscriber! | Permalink
  • nope! but also -- feeders only work in your own backyard :(
    awesome, generous thought though!
Posted 12 months ago by ruptures Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You sure? I popped a feeder in a friend's yard and it works fine. It's kept her piggies alive.  :D
Posted 12 months ago by Enelyse Subscriber! | Permalink
  • IIRC, piggies only eat from feeders that are in the yard of a home (ie, not on streets)
But, anyone can add feed to that feeder.
Posted 12 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • ah sweet! someone left a note in the pen saying it wouldn't work so i was just leaving feed on the ground. what's the benefit, generally speaking, to a feeder vs. leaving the same food on the ground?
Posted 12 months ago by ruptures Subscriber! | Permalink
  • My flu is getting worse so another day of hardcore cooking ahead. Starting in a few minutes. People hanging out, helping cook or donating ingredients very welcome. All others too. ;-)
Posted 12 months ago by Hackepeter Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The benefit of a feeder is that pigs will reliably eat what's in it and thus eat in sufficient quantity to stay alive. Pigs also will reliably eat from trees available to them, and that also will keep them alive if the ratio of pigs to trees is not too high.

In my experience, when food left on the ground is the only source of food for pigs, they stop eating it after a while and die.  When pigs are in a pen they are not able to eat from trees, so they either need to have a feeder or they need to be hand-fed periodically.
Posted 12 months ago by Splendora Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well, that does not change the fact that feeders only work in your own house (read the info). We tested that theory. Pigs are very hungry and it is important to leave stuff on the ground. Otherwise they will day because they were not fed often enough by hand. I made hundreds of them for all community crop and herb gardens. Without leaving stuff on the ground -  no chance. :)
Posted 12 months ago by Hackepeter Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Still open and still waiting on that bong....
Posted 12 months ago by Hackepeter Subscriber! | Permalink
  • ahh, someone should have dropped one off for you lol. Back in a bit, on a spice/mining run :D
Posted 12 months ago by Anya Karenya Subscriber! | Permalink
  • With respect to the pigs, I will be hand-feeding them when I get the chance.  Pigs will always eat if you feed them by hand. They don't always eat food left on the ground. Also, hand feeding can be used to get seeds.
