Who would want a street garden anymore?

Just an interesting topic: now that street gardens are no longer locked to you, can you see any reason at all to make a street garden? Odds are you won't get the herbs unless you're online and notice the notification. It makes for a disincentive to be on a route if you want to do herb gardening.

Trees and minerals I have no problem at all with making and letting others harvest. People at least give back by petting and watering, even if I do have to shoulder more burden by renewing them. But it seems that people very, very rarely replant herbs if they take them. I wouldn't mind keeping an herb garden and getting no herbs out of them personally if people would replant them, but I'm not going to shoulder the Imagination cost and then be expected to keep re-seeding the herbs.

  • I do like  Flowerry Pott's idea of a big warning when you place a garden plot (or any other resource) into the public front street. No nasty surprises because you thought it was your private space.

  • I think a warning message that your garden will be usable and that things you plant will be harvestable by everyone would probably be sufficient to solve many of the problems that may otherwise occur.

  • First of all, not many people visit my /home street, so I just plant all my seeds and think 'what the hell? if someone takes some stuff, no probs!'
Secondly, yes zooo, it would be awesome if we got a little bit of compensation, that would just be cool....

  • Thanks to a generous random visitor/harvester, I've got a big ol' box of crop plots with leftover weeds in it. Come on by!

  • @dm, that really does suck, do you want some seeds? what kind?
Posted 8 months ago by RJStormRider Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I actually find my herb gardens full most of the time, it's the crop garden that's not replanted. I think it's probably because getting crop seeds is so difficult compared to herb seeds; batch feeding to pigs would be the simplest way to do it I think. Or, y'know, just plant the whole crop back in the ground.

If I ever get my internet situation fixed, I'll probably want to have at least one of each on my street anyway, because if you're going to think about the cost, then you probably wouldn't put anything in there anymore. Public gardens are rare, as opposed to resources that you can just visit the real world for without having to pay for restoring, so I feel people would need them more.

Also, your own cave for batterflies. That would make everything much much easier.

  • I would.

  • Huh??  The garden being public is exactly why I would have a street garden to begin with ~ To share the resources with all the passerby and to create a community garden space.  :)

  • @RJStormRider, I don't need any seeds, but thank you. :) Actually, I thought about it, and having a full bed of weeds is kind of a deterrent from others using the garden. Who wants to do all of that weeding?

  • If the devs brought back attics you could keep your batterflies up there.

  • I have two storeys and an attic.  I don't think they took attics away.

  • I love it when I come across a needing-to-be-weeded patch of weeds.  :3  All that xp!!  I love it!

  • Having had people come through, take the flowers, not even replant, then break the planter and not repair it.....

I can tell you, I will not have any resources on my main street when this goes live and we have to spend our imagination on it.  I will have a huge backyard, though.

  • The most used resources on my street, besides my bubble tree, are the barnacles and the jellisacs.

  • Everyone: Please come to my street and use/take anything. That is what it is there for. If you care to leave something/replant, go ahead. Enjoy!

  • i have noticed I cant plant water or tend anyone's garden for days now,...I understand many want their gardens for themselves and that's O.k. but I plant my front for others to pick from....Ive had many come plat when it was bare. I also enjoyed going to others homes and watering and planting for them as a way of saying thank you, hello or just for a really random act of kindness. I'm not complaining either way, just voicing an opinion for the giants to consider,...maybe an option for whether your front garden is open to all or private? :) I too would like for people to feel free to come and enjoy my garden.

We will be able  to tend other people's front gardens again. They're working on it

  • I disagree.  You have a back yard for planting herbs and crops.  I intentionally keep my garden plots out in the street so that others can come along and plant/harvest!  I might even plant the seeeds myself so that there are herbs for people to grab whenever they feel like it.

Not sure what you are disagreeing with.

That we currently can't tend the gardens in the front is a bug. We soon will be able to again

  • This bug has been around for what feels like forever.

My favorite thing to do in the game was travel through the home streets digging peat, scooping jellisacs and planting crops. Now I feel like I am not adding much of anything when I visit a street. Sure, I can water and pet and fill some feeders but mostly I feel like now I am getting a lot more than I can give.

This bug takes the fun out of the home streets. I really really miss being able to plant different crops. This bug makes the home streets like the regular streets where you pass through without leaving a trace. I miss being able to make a difference. It is one of those things where I didn't realize how important it was to me until it was gone.

I hope they fix this soon.
