Not if I make a deal with a buyer, if he knows the exact time a house will be available for sale there's a great chance he'll buy it. If the plan fails he's with no home and I'm with no money. Fair deal.
It's a shame that the resource layout is tied to the house style/art. The cottages are sought after because they have 5 patches and for some of the unique art (retro gaming). As a result some of us can't get houses with 5 patches at any price. Even in a mansion.
Since I can't get a cottage, I'm holding out for home customization, which the giants are working on now.
I moved out of my 15K GM house when the last expansion happened. Those houses come on the market, you just have to be all packed and checking the real estate listings obsessively. When it happens, swoop in and grab it.
I have a 15K Groddle Meadow house with the retro gaming theme and I would love to have any other theme. It's almost impossible to move from one GM house to another, of course. (Location, Location, Location. I love being able to walk to Ix to harvest spice.)
50k isn't too much if a buyer really wants one. The houses that do sell for 50k aren't really any better. I have a 15k house and wouldn't sell it for 50k.
The odd thing about that is that I am never in my house. I haven't picked up any gardening or animal skills yet and am essentially a full-time miner spending my time in the dark holes of Callopee. With my large supply of bigger bags, I just carry everything I need.
So, depending on what you do, maybe you don't need a house.
I am planning on moving out of a large house in Estevan Meadows sometime later tonight. I would be willing to work a deal if someone is interested.
