Q for Staff: When Will There Be More Street Projects?

Well, people managed to build an entire new territory (Polloko) in like two days. One of the main interesting features of the game (to me) is the ability to permanently evolve our terrain to suit our needs and improve it. When do we get a new territory to build, and will the requirements be higher so that it takes longer and so that more people can participate?

I note that a lot of the streets in the main area of the game were "updgraded" -- almost a full year ago (290 days in most cases). When will projects like this start up again?

  • Well, the old style upgrade jobs will not be back. But, a much better system of individual small upgrades on locations is in the works.

And: we don't have a specific schedule for when the next projects become available, but there will be many of them and some will have higher requirements.

  • For a neat preview of how huge the scale of future land development is, look at the world map. See all those chalk-outlined boxes? Very exciting indeed.

  • I took part in a couple of the new street projects in Polloko and I have to say I was disappointed with the process.  Prior knowledge of what was going to be required meant more experienced players started making the items well before the project opened and were able to quickly race to the top of the leaderboards and stay there.

I also expected the project to take a little longer to complete so as to give everyone a chance to contribute and feel like they made a difference.  A quick dump of items in about an hour by only a handful of players is hardly what I would call "communal".  I'd like to see these projects extended for a few days to give everyone a chance to participate, if they so choose to.  I'd also like to see individual participation capped at a certain percentage and the number of people rewarded increased e.g. max participation is 10% of items needed and top 10 receive a trophy.

  • Actually, I am am a more experienced player and I have to all agree with that. I do NOT like the fact that every phase of a project has been predetermined and is not randomized because it gives a HUGE advantage to other players. It's not fair that some people can predicat exactly what will be needed for a project and then have everything ready for when the project phase opens.

ETA: I have no idea what "all agree with that" is supposed to mean but I think I meant "agree with all of that." o__o

  • I have a feeling that Pollokoo was put on a "fast track" to ease the overload of miners in the Deeps as well to encourage players to vist the outer regions of Ur. I have complete faith that the devs are coming up with a street project strategy that will incorporate the best of the "old way" with a more improved and interesting "new way". Onwards and upwards!

  • The old style upgrades were cool.

A whole region in two days seems fast - though I presume this was one off to expand mining areas...

  • Thanks for sharing that link, Hburger.  I really hope you're right and Pollokoo was a one-off.

  • Pollokoo was fast tracked, for sure :)

  • The projects in Pollokoo were intentionally set up to be fairly easily and quickly completed.  Mainly, for the reasons mentioned by Rachel2635.

And, we're definitely going to be changing the way projects work sometime in the future.  Like stoot said, we're not sure exactly when, but changes are coming.

  • Is there any plans to integrate a menu in game or page on the site that lists all projects going on? Finding them can be troublesome.
