So I just started..

So I just started..and I dont got a clue what to do really. I got a home with one dirt patch or something that I dug up dirt from..which I dont have a clue to do with. I ran around picking those coin thingies in the trees until I couldnt pick anymore. But I dont got a clue what to do with the coins. Have only seen a vendor in the tutorial.

I picked fruit from the few harvestable trees I ran across and I pick skills to learn randomly. Basically I have no clue what I am doing.

Is there some newbie-get-started-guide I have missed?

Oh and if someone is like me and have 0 friends in Glitch, feel free to add me (31m, Sweden)

  • Its best to pick a skill tree to start with and stick with it, animal skills is a nice one that you can profit from easily. grabbing skills at random wont be as beneficial.

you can then eat meat, drink milk and pile up grain n' stuff...and you can sell meat.grain and milk in a street called Cebarkul

that should answer some questions (and then generate more of course)

  • Basically: just explore and have fun!!

Here is a forum post you might find useful:  www.glitch.com/forum/genera...

There are a lot of areas/regions to explore and with every skill learned you get a quest (which is both fun and helps you figure out stuff).  A lot of the stuff you'll find/collect you wont find a use for until later.

If you get stuck, you can always ask the Live Help channel.  Or any of us! :)

    WELCOME!!!!!!!!!

  • Some zones, like Roobrik, Balzare and Jal to name a few, are coin-only. That's why you didn't see any shrines, vendors or food resources there. Otherwise there is a vendor on every street. Have a look at the map (top right corner) or www.glitch.com/locations/ to see what each region looks like. Vendors and shrines are mentioned if there are any.
Many skills require tools (a pick to mine, a pan to make some recipes, etc.) or resources you can buy from vendors. That's what currants are for. At first your primary concern is to maintain your energy and mood levels (so pet, water, harvest, nibble, etc) and collect imgs and currants to get upgrades and the tools you need. As elf said, picking a tree (or two or three) is good idea because the higher you get the easiest and less tiring some tasks are, and you'll get more for what you do as well as many chances for extra bonuses.

  • You (should) have a greeter twig in your inventory you can use to summon a more experienced player to help.  I'm not sure exactly what greeters do but probably they'd run through a street showing you various things and tasks and answering questions such as where to find the nearest vendor.  If you catch me anywhere in-game I'll be happy to help too.

  • @ Zagrim: Welcome to glitch. Check out the thread "Tips for New Players". I bumped it up for you and other new players to read. It has useful information. I also friended you:)

  • Also, if you see players in the street don't hesitate to ask questions; many people are very willing to help out newer players. You have a local chat window to the right of the screen and you can type in there. There is also global chat and live help and you can open those windows up and see what other people are saying. Global chat is a good place to ask questions, it does go by quickly, so you may want to read some of the posts. The wiki is a great resource and the forums are a good place to look at what people are saying. But, the best way I found is to just try things out, see what you like doing and have fun.

  • When you start looking at the skill tree to decide what to learn, do NOT just learn all the easy skills that are fast to learn first.  Learn the whole 'tree' on a few chosen skill types.  There is a learning time penalty once you learn a certain number of skills, so pick something you want to be your main skill (for now) and learn that fully.  It can be Cooking, Mining, Animal Husbandry for the main ones.

  • Welcome to Glitch.  Some of the most fun I have had was when I first started, and just learning all of the cool things this world has.  Also. No worries on making friends before you know it there will be many. People here rock.  They are helpful.  Having no clue sometimes help because the surprise of Glitch is many things are absurdly unexpected anyhow.  So finding and figuring it out is part of the fun.  My advice: Don't be afraid to ask and Don't be afraid to try anything out.  You can die but even that is fun. ( And you come back)

  • LOL. I remember when I was a new Glitch (a little over a year ago) and making funny mistakes (like singing to butterflies ALL the time). Welcome to Glitch.

  • Thanks for the warm welcome. I went to bed after posting since I had to get up for work (which I just got to). I'll be sure to read the links you guy posted and I changed paths on my skills from just picking anything to going down the animal route. But I have already learned to many of the fast skills I think. Oh well..

So far the community seems way better then your standard mmorpg (even though my only interaction with the community so far have been this post heh).

  • Thank you Kin. I bet I will have tons more questions once I get back home and be able to play. I doubt my boss would be happy with me playing at work ;)

My guess its that its a bit of both ;)

The Wiki has a lot of information and some Spoilers so be careful what you read there.  Not all secrets are revealed though so take a look!

  • The game is really open ended, but it helps to set goals for yourself. Focus on a specific skill line at first, it'll help you to be really good at something to make you money or gather resources than not specializing.

Long term plans you can aim to collect some Icons, complete all the quests you get, run or join player events, build a tower and decorate it along with your house, participate in Rook attacks, etc. New stuff is always being added (a much faster pace than other MMO's), and I have a feeling TS is going to start focusing on late game content soon.

  • Ah yes, I did check out that wiki abit Annie, but I didnt have that much time to read that much since I'm at work. Will spend some time looking through it tonight once I get home :)

Biggest problem I have with setting goals is that I dont know what kind of goals I can aim for or what use I have for different skills etc. But I'm trying to specialize a bit now and not learning skills whenever I'm not training any.

I bet I will have a more firm understanding of things you can do once I read a little more in the Wiki and then set my goals accordingly.

Also had tons of people adding me as friend and mailing with a few of them. Again I like to add that this community so far have been awesome :)

  • What I've been doing at work (cannot play, anyway, shouldn't play) is methodically go through the Encyclopedia. I find the descriptions (especially for items) sometimes have tips on where the items come from, how to grow/buy/make them that I never realised along the way. It's also pretty much spoiler-free, so it's a good place to go if you don't really want to be spoiled. Not that I don't use the wiki though, for tough quests. :)

  • Every skill has a use.  Most of them let you make something that will be useful to you, possibly for Achievements, or you can sell it.  If you need some Goals, check the Encyclopedia for Achievements and work on some of those.  I make a lot of Achievement oriented Goals.
