moar information from the map

It would be useful to have significantly more information about each location available from within the map.  At a minimum, I'd like to be able to click on a location and see the same summary of things available (trees, rocks, shrines, vendors, etc) that you get on the loading screen.  There are other things-you-can-interact-with (dirt piles come to mind) that don't show up on the loading screen but I'd still like to know about before I decide to take a long hike.  For those of us who haven't memorized all of the different kinds of vendors yet, it would be nice to be able to click on a vendor and get a list of everything it sells.  Finally, streets with active projects should reveal what's currently needed, so I could find projects that need the stuff/skills I have without having to walk to each of them.

A second level of polish would reveal, in the summary of things, whether or not I can actually harvest those things right now (trees, animals: have already harvested them out for this day; rocks: temporarily mined out at present; sort of thing) and would also distinguish streets I've already visited from those I haven't -- that should happen without me having to click anything.

  • ^ i agree.

it would also be really nice to add a search/route function to the map that would enable me to say "i'm looking for an animal goods vendor" or a shrine to a particular giant, and have the map draw the route to the nearest such item - that way i don't have to spend 5mins hovering over every identical shrine/vendor icon in the surrounding area looking for the one i want.

if zwol's suggestions were implemented, it would be extra nice to add tree types and such to my search/route suggestion (map, show me the way to the nearest jellisac clump/paper tree/etc!).

  • i don't know, part of the fun is finding SOME things out as you go, experiencing not just streets with the "most valuable" stuff on it.

trees change all the time, so that seems impractical.

i would like to see the mail boxes, or at least the dispatch boxes on the map, though.

and i'd REALLY like the map not to direct me up the other drop, or the drop- whichever one it is that i can't get up, even with spinach :)

  • good point about the ever-shifting tree situation, that would get messy quick.  still, for those of us who have exhaustively explored the various maps already and are just looking to find a certain item or get in touch with a particular giant, it would be nice to be able to draw a direct line to the vendor/shrine we need without having to hover over each one to see what it is.

alternately, the icons for vendors and shrines on the map could be color-coded or something to make them easier to differentiate...

  • Re: locating specific resources, do youselves a favor and install the Location Checker script in beta.glitch.com/forum/gener... . Drop down list of resources, shrines, projects, subway stations, etc. will filter down to relevant streets. It also shows which streets you have visited before. It's dynamic as long as you do a refresh periodically. It will change..your..life.

  • Yeah once you have it installed, just going to beta.glitch.com/locations/ should do it. Works great for me with Chrome.

  • I would really like to see the underground stations on the normal map. I spent quite a bit of time yesterday trying to locate the streets on the regular map because there are so many streets on some of the maps (can't remember them all...!)

I disagree though with the original poster's ideas of having ALL the info about streets. That will take some of the fun of the game out. You learn quickly enough where things are able to grow, and then just going from street to street finding enough of them...

  • oooh i didn't realize there was a second page you went to once you installed! i see it now. i still have to click on each page to see what's there, though, right?--- edit:  just kidding i see the filters. awesome!

@jessabelle: if you start typing the name of the street in the upper right corner of the map, it will fill in the rest and locate the street on the map for you so you don't have to squint around for it like you do with the shrines/vendors.
