Regularly scheduled tests?

I heard a rumor that regularly scheduled tests are being planned for sometime in the future and that the devs are in the process of deciding between weekdays and weekends...

Is there a reason we couldn't do a compromise of both? Like, Thursday through Saturday? Or does it have to be one or the other? Keep in mind this is just a rumor which may have no basis in facutality but... I can't help but wonder. If it *does* have to be one or the other, I'm really hoping for weekends, haha.

  • I'd be glad for any regular schedule ~that way I could fit Real Life around Glitch Life! ;)

  • I believe rumor came from a Glitch blog post but when I went to read the blog I didn't see it. Regular schedule would be super, though I vote also for Thurs - Sat or Sun - Weds for example...some of both :)

  • I think the 'rumor' comes from a comment from one of the staff that 'they are hoping to have the game up more frequently and more regularly', but I don't recall a schedule being mentioned.

As for week days versus weekends, weekends provide a larger player base and will help test out what the servers can handle. Week day tests would allow for longer runs, which would allow the developers to see how the code preforms over time. Both have serious benefits, and a mix of the two (like TS has been doing) will produce the best end product.

  • A fixed schedule really needs to allow for the fact that, for many of us, weekends are also work days.  You'll get a skewed set of testers if people who have days off other than Saturday and Sunday don't get some intensive play time.

  • @Windborn -- that's also why I think a compromise between the two would be helpful. People that work on weekends would hopefully be free either Thursday or Frisay, or if we utilized a schedule more like Rascalmom's, on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

  • I'm guessing the "rumor" comes from the following two tweets:

    twitter.com/#!/playglitch/s...

@candlelight Yep. Over the next month, the testing schedule will become more regular and fixed. Until then ...

@josholalia We'll get back to as soon as we can ;) And, we will try to give some notice too. (Deciding now re weekend vs weekday.)

  • From twitter.com/playglitch re: when the next test is:

"We'll get back to as soon as we can ;) And, we will try to give some notice too. (Deciding now re weekend vs weekday.)"

  • Thank you Joe and Krikket!

In that case... I vote T-W-Th and Saturdays!

  • I vote Thursday thru Sunday. The test we just finished was great.

  • I vote for at least one of the early week days (M, T, W) being included  Th, F, Sa, and Su are not days we often have off.

  • I think the two postings referenced there are getting conflated: the first is just about having a (public) schedule for upcoming tests. The second is about whether a particular test should be weekend or weekday.

"Regular testing schedule" doesn't mean testing will always happen on the same days of the week — just means that we test "regularly" and it's scheduled in advance.

  • Ahhh. Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification, stoot! :D

  • I confess, I did it. It did help pass the afternoon while we took turns betting  on which it would be. Darn, guess that means all bets are off. But wait, an announced testing schedule AND weekday and weekend tests. Sounds like everybody wins. YAY!
