Magic tuesday - foxes, sloths, cabinets, oh my!

i.imgur.com/7mU5s.png

I hope you've all brushed up on your fox brushing (get it??), because foxes have finally been discovered in Ur. Time to get some fiber and turn it into cloth with the spindle and loomer; grab them from your local hardware or animal goods vendor.

If foxes aren't up your alley, then perhaps the sloth is more to your liking. Grab some metal rods and prepare to make snails. Sloths love metal.

For those players who have a lot of junk to store, we've reintroduced cabinets. They come in 3 sizes (small, regular and wall) and a variety of designs. Just check your furniture bag next time you're home (You'll need to leave your house and /home again to get them).

Miss your old firebog home? No longer! We've released some new furniture upgrades so your can recreate your authentic bog experience.

So head out to brush some foxes and create some snails. Lets us know what you think and tell us about any bugs you uncover. Go!

Note 1: We're gradually unlocking new areas of the world. This process will take a couple of hours.

---Known Issues---

We are investigating these things:

-Open verb may be available when new Cabinet is in your bag
-Some players may not be getting the Fox Brush or Bait from Ranger
-Some cabinets which have more than 16 slots only allow you that many- FIXED
-Rug recipe was removed- not a bug, sorry!

-Inventory area grows large with pixelated graphic when using fox brush for some players
-Reports of zooming issues near Foxes and Sloths
-Loss of Fiber when canceling spinning action- FIXED
-If you get Fox Brush out before Fox appears, brushing may fail

-Spaceship Cabinet takes two tries to open- FIXED
-Stuck Sloth on Kaha Haha- FIXED
-Keyholders cannot open cabinet- yet.

-Going "back to world" with an open cabinet will show the open cabinet display. Just hit "done" to close it then.

  • Be nice if there was a easier way to brush the fox.  Folks with older hands having trouble with the quickness of having to get to the brush, moving over the fox, holding the mouse button down, then releasing at the same time.

  • Tibbi:  the easiest way is to simply drag the brush over the fox.  No clicking is required :)

  • QUESTION?? Are my cabinets accessible to those who have a key to my house or those I let in when they knock?

  • +1 on needing a keyboard option for brushing foxes. I have arthritis and tendonitis in my hands and it's very difficult to hold down the mouse button and drag it like that. One of the reasons I love Glitch is that so much of it can be controlled with the keyboard, and it's much easier on my hands than many other games. I tried brushing the fox twice and it caused me too much pain to ever do it again.

Aside from that, I love the cabinets, the sloths are adorable, and Tahli is the my new favorite location! It's so gorgeous.

  • Something weird I've noticed is that when I am in my /home and try to click on/drag my fox brush or move to move it to a different inventory slot, it freezes up my items for a little while so that I can't drop/move around other items I am holding either. I thought it was my computer being laggy like usual but this has happened quite a few times and it 1) only happens at /home and 2) Only and always happens with the fox brush item.

  • Bees!

The bait is not visible if you drop it outside at home.. I tried leaving some at friends doors in /home mode and it doesnt show up. When I hit enter, it tell me it is there on the ground and allows me to pick it back up, but it isnt visible to the naked eye.  EDIT: Now its visible but in the case of this groddle background, its jumping up on the house. In my canyon cave house, it properly sits on the ground.

The perspective on the Onyx Black Wall Cabinet is also way off, looks like it is leaning forward, about to fall over.

  • I just purchased a cubimal box from the vendor in Cauda and I didn't get the box. Has this happened before?

  • Eye Wonder: The answer is keyholders are not at the moment. The cabinets are new from the ground up, and we didn't put that part of it (keyholder perms) in the equation. But, we're working on that bit! No one else but you can access them.

  • When a spindle is broken, the "Spin" verb is still on the menu, and it takes you through the whole spin-what-and-how-many sequence before finally saying that there aren't enough uses left in the spindle.  I haven't used the loomer enough to know whether or not the same thing happens with it, but for other tools, the impossible options are just greyed out or gone.

  • I just love LOVE the sloths, especially when they peer down from the trees with just their eyes showing!
This update and the recent wood trees update are terrific because they give us all reasons to be out and about again in Ur (should alleviate concerns that folks had about Ur becoming empty now that we are so self-sufficient in our new /homes).

  • Omgiants the lion head fountain took my breath away, could we please have a pool/rug? into which it can fall? Is there going to be an option to have something simular outdoors too. I would have liked the option to set it a little higher so it could fall into my fish coffee table, but for now it splashes onto my floor, hehee bring wellies if you come visit :P !!!

Also when i went /home last night i left from one of the sloth areas i think it was Gomed Essoni, returning to Ur this morning put me in Groddle Meadow which I found a bit odd?

  • P.S. It'd be cool if cabinets were keyboard-accessible too, like the old cabinets and the current SDBs. At the least, make a pop-up menu when clicking on items in a cabinet to remove them, rather than have to click-drag everything?
Posted 8 months ago by Touya Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh my gosh, thank you!! My house now has that authentic bog flavor. ;__;

  • I'd like to chime in with a request that fox brushing be something that can be done with the keyboard too. I use a laptop and the motion to click-drag-release the fox brush using a trackpad is really uncomfortable.

  • First, let me say I love all the new updates :D

However, I was wondering if sloth trees are going to expand outside of the two new regions where they currently reside?  It seems that since one glitch can kind of monopolize feeding bars to a single sloth and then there's a refresh time, it seems a little less balanced for a large player base than the fox resources (and the fox resource gathering is pretty awesome).  I guess my question is whether "harvesting" from sloths will be more like harvesting from trees: you may have to wait if someone pets/waters the tree first before you can have a turn, but you can always harvest regardless.  Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like there might not be enough sloth to glitch ratio with the current setup.

  • Re: Cabinets

I can stand on top of mine, but if I try to put anything on it i get a little "huh?" pop-up. Is that intentional, or a bug?

Edit: Just wanted to add, that foxes, sloths, cabinets, and firebog decorations are all awesome. This is a very exciting time in glitch.

  • I want to give another +1 for a keyboard method for brushing foxes. Personally it doesn't generally hamper me, but I can only imagine how frustrating it would be trying to brush using a trackpad / trackpoint or if physically handicapped.

For those that do have trouble, one method that works is to not chase the fox, but simply bring the brush up in one spot, then "drop" it on the fox when it comes by. It's slower than the double brushing mouse, but at least gets it done.

  • Note:  if you've never met a fox ranger before and are summoned to a preserve, he won't talk to you until you leave and reenter the street.  That's not really a bug, but it's a behavior that help people should be aware of.

  • Has anybody else noticed how the crabs now talk in local chat? I tried conversing with them, but to no reaction. I just noticed this last night :)

It is running up and down, up and down, really fast without stopping anywhere...

  • A little bug: the map sometimes shows streets I have visited as "not" (grey, dashed lines). Just before teleporting to Fenneq today; Budae Bada, Chettar Lings, and Deodak Nabak appeared as previously visited. I visited all three yesterday. Now that I have arrived at Deodak Nabak, Budae Bada and Chettar Lings show as not visited on the map.

ETA: after walking to Jigoree Galbee, the map shows the correct streets as visited again.

"Cabinets. I can stand on top of mine, but if I try to put anything on it i get a little "huh?" pop-up" - bug

"the map sometimes shows streets I have visited as "not"" - known bug, we're working on it

  • Yes! to possible upcoming new cubis, and love the "huh?" pop-up - hilariously nice bug XDDD
Thank you TS for this fantastic release - had loads of fun talking to the ranger, brushing foxes and adding on a few much needed cabinets <3 <3

  • I mostly play Glitch with the keyboard because it's easier on my hands. I have tendon issues that make repetitive mouse movements problematic. Up until now, Glitch has been a pretty hand-friendly game but the repeated and fast click/drag to brush foxes is a departure and a real bummer for me.

  • Is any staff member going to address the concerns about the ease-of-access to fox brushing? They've been stated numerous times without being acknowledged.  My hands are fine with it, but I feel for those who are disabled in ways that make fox brushing, given the current mechanic, frustrating, if not nearly impossible.

  • For a quick minute I thought that the cabinet had eaten the stuff I threw in it earlier. Then I realized I had one downstairs. Oops.

Any chance you can make it such that you can drag items into it without having to open them?

  • If there are fox, sloth, weaving badges etc. in the future will what we do now count for them?

  • To be honest I'm disappointed with the cabinets. I had hoped they would be like a multi slotted SDB but without the display element. So I still have to open the cabinet, take out a bag, (possibly having had to drop one to make room), take out (or put in) what I want, put bag back, close cabinet.

And if I have more than one bag of a resource it will take up more than one slot

I will just hope I have enough resources and Imagination to make a lot of SDBs and group them together into my own 'cabinets'

  • I can't place small storage cabinets (i.e. trunks) anywhere but at the back wall. I'd like to be able to have one at the foot of the bed, or use it as decoration in the middle of the room.

  • Aurora Dellaterra, if the fox-brushing mechanic doesn't change I propose that we start BUFTT, the Benevolent Union of Fox Tail Ticklers, to make fiber available to people who are physically unable to brush foxes. Once I got the hang of it, I got crazy amounts of fibre with not too much time invested. I can certainly pick up a pocketful for someone else every time I harvest for myself.

ETA: The F in BUFTT might be silent. If it is, be careful; it's probably also deadly.

EATA: Accessing the new cabinets with my keyboard makes me unreasonably happy.
