50k Mansions have left me wanting more...

I've had my 50k mansion in Alakol since the first day after reset, and have realized that there are some improvements I'd like to make in my home.  My suggestion is to allow those willing to spend the currants the ability to upgrade their 50k mansion to include a basement (or storm shelter).  This would allow for an herb garden, and a dark patch (as well as other potential upgrades ~ possibly an area for machines?).  I'd like to see this implemented like a street project: Have it cost an upfront "permit fee" and then be able to invite friends to come help work on your street project or just work on it yourself.

I'd easily spend an additional 50,000 currants for a basement in my home with a dark patch and a herb garden.  The house could gain equity, so if it were sold it could still retain 80% of the value of the home and then 80% of cost of the upgrade as well (less the cost of street project supplies).

Also -- any chance we'll ever get the chance to decorate our homes to individualize them a bit more?  I always found it odd that homes in Groddle Meadow were all fancy yet the mansions had no individuality.

  • How did you get a 50k house on the first day after the reset - did you rob a bureaucroc?

  • +1 to everything you said DiscLizard.  I myself do not own a 50K home and it's for the reasons that you have listed here.
If I can't at least have an egg tree and an herb garden then I'm not spending that much on a home.
I wouldn't mind at all if they set it up as an upgrade option with the parameters that you spoke of.  That sounds like fun.

  • There are herb and garden placements are in separate locations for strategic and themed reasons. If you want a herb garden, move your house down south to Chakra Phool and the like.

    +1 to decorating :P

  • Agreed, 50k houses leave a lot to desire.
Pens: Useless for pigs, the chickens come in and never leave, it's much too small for having more than a few pigs, butterflies also seem to wander around there a lot very low, it's very annoying to accidentally 'Sing' to one.
Trees: The tree areas are much too spread out, one in the corner and the other 3 near the pen? Why.
Crops: The areas are nice, but the chair that's there would be cool if I could lay down on it, otherwise it's just decoration that separates my two areas (which are different sized, this kinda annoys me when trying to plant 2 crops at the same time :/)
I'm not exactly crazy about the herbs, I understand that you should have to choose between Egg/Herb Garden and OtherTrees/Crop Garden, but if that was the case it would be nice to see 50k Egg/Herb Garden houses.

Overall I've taken to having to put my pigs on the top floor (annoying my crops, so they don't get stuck with the chickens) but now they annoy the crops.

Having houses be more customizable in general would be great, as long as it's very costly, I want to feel as if I'm requiring some more content (some sort of puzzle or minigame added in would be nice too of course).

50k Houses also seem to be very drab, I wish I could paint -hint hint- or decorate my house.

  • There has been talk in the past that being able to personalize our houses will be an option that everyone at tiny speck is working hard at.

♥ the idea for the basement

  • @Louhi -- I was a big fan of Ajaya Bliss before the tweaks.  I was able to amass around 60,000 currants (10,000 chunks) worth of sparkly in a matter of hours -- bonuses I experienced were over 100 chunks... I also have every Cubimal released (despite already owning the trophy, I'd like more new Cubimals to be released in the future).  Not as easy as it used to be to make currants in Ur, but it's not that tough.  Just gotta diversify your bonds!

@Poppy -- I see your point in not wanting to live amongst the upper crust, however, the resale schedule for homes in Ur is not favorable for the seller and I wanted to buy a home that could continue to grow with me as much as possible.  Short of allowing us to buy a second home, I feel that my solution for adding a basement is a simple and non-intrusive one that could satisfy users needs/desires for expansion.

  • I don't think that either crop plot homes or herb plot homes should be able to have the other.  AKA non firebog homes shouldn't be able to have herbs and firebog homes shouldn't be able to have crops.  If everyone has access to everything, there is no need to work together.

That being said, I REALLY wish there were a 50k option in the firebogs.  With a pen, and a huge cabinet, and way bigger than the current 10k option.

  • Until there is some decorating update to houses, I'm content to sit around in my 15K despite the fact that I could easily buy at least 3 50K houses at the moment. Sure, they may be bigger, but I enjoy having 5 trees and a more aesthetically appealing home.

  • "If everyone has access to everything, there is no need to work together."
    @Laurali I agree!

I kind of like that 50k houses aren't necessarily the best houses all round...mixes it up a bit, and makes currants not as important (and helps with making sure a variety of housing is available and not everyone has to want the same thing).  If you want to show off your currants you can have one, and if you don't, there's still plenty of equally gorgeous differently priced housing available too.  If there are upgrades available to houses, I admit I do think they shouldn't be just for 50k and 30k houses just because they cost more currants.  That would make currants seem considerably more important an activity than, say, racing cubimals, exploring streets, having spice/gas wars, or whatever other activity in Glitch one enjoys.

  • I believe I saw a post from staff (maybe even stoot himself) that said house upgrades are coming but later rather than sooner and we wouldn't be disappointed.

  • @DiscLizard...I was actually agreeing with you.  LOL

I agree that the upgrade option would be cool.  :-)

  • It would be awesome if we could complete customise our house: tear down parts we don't like, add sections, start from cardboard box to multi-storey castle. At least, it would keep us Glitchies busy for a good long time.

  • Well, I agree that house customization and upgrades would be great, and that I would put a lot of extra time, energy and coins into improving it.

I would be more interested in seeing all the houses become slightly more modular. For example, In Alakol, you'd buy a "Basic Home" that has a trophy case and smallest closet, maybe spend additional time and effort adding on the 3rd floor (then add a small/medium/large garden), decide to build one (or more) pens or use the same space for additional trees, or add a basement (and put in a a few nodes to mine or a machine room), or upgrade the closet capacity.

Different regions would need differing upgrade options, and each region would need its own upgrade artwork too. Not sure how hard that would make it. But at least you could then buy a house in the region you want, and through upgrades, be equivalent to houses in any other areas. And the regions would still define the upgrades available.

  • Yes, modular customizable houses would be flippin' awesome. Just, just perfect. I believe that's what they said they were aiming for, but I'm not sure.

  • Yes, stoot said in a thread called, The Ability to upgrade houses.., or something close to that, that housing customization is the most important big feature they've been working on. It also sounds very complex in what they want to allow us to do. He said if we don't expect it before 2012 we won't be disappointed. I'd link and quote but I'm on my dying phone ATM.

  • ++++++

We definitely need more expensive homes. 100k, 500k, 1mil, and so on.

I like the customizable home idea, but I don't think it should replace benchmarks. It should work in conjunction with them.

My pre-reset 50k Kaaju home was a milestone. For me, it was a way to say "you've made it to the big leagues." Of all of the accomplishments I've had in Glitch, it was second to reaching 1st on the leaderboards in the satisfaction it gave me. I was able to do that very quickly though, and there aren't many milestones after your 50k home.

  • This is wonderful where it is and how it is, but I made a thread here to add any ideas we might have about how we think house customization could be executed in a way suited to our tastes.

Feel free to add to the things I thought might be interesting :).

  • Stoot and the gang were all "it's the first thing we'll work on after launch", so naturally everyone reads that as "it'll be finished and in the game straight after launch". So it goes.
