Interview with Stoot on Massively: Covers Unlaunching, more hints at housing changes, hints at changes to what it means to level

I'm usually a pretty regular Massively reader, and I don't miss much.  But I missed this article: http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/02/mmobility-tiny-speck-explains-glitchs-big-unlaunching/

I think I actually neglected to glance at Massively because I was too busy playing Glitch.  Cool beans.

  • Yay! This confirms a lot of the gossip that i'd been hearing and now i feel like it's okay to get excited (instead of being apprehensive) about all the changes coming! Also it was really nice how even the article re-iterated throughout what a small possibility a reset is... PHEW!! Thanks so much for posting!! =D

  • Experience and level changes sound like a reset to me.

  • I was thinking the same thing when I read that, BlueZed.

  • If experience and level changes were a reset, they would have said there was going to be a reset, rather than saying a reset was as unlikely as you winning the lottery tomorrow.

    Alternately,
    RESET??? TOMORROW???

  • Well most people's idea of reset was a complete wipe. But if it's just a reset of XP/Level, and that translates to something else more interesting, I'm sure many people would be fine with it. The existing levels may even carry over to the new system, which might be fundamentally different enough as a basis that it wouldn't matter if just this fraction of the entire game was "reset".

  • I can see them translating existing xp to "imagination" that we can then use to customize our new and improved homes.  That would mean that people who have spent a lot of time / energy levelling up would see some significant benefit to having done so.

  • As I read the "please no reset!" folks, what they're most concerned about is repetitive questing/grinding. If skills learnt are kept, that takes care of the worst of it, not so?

I'm okay with an XP/level reset, myself, even granting that leveling up will be slower because badges are much fewer and farther between these days.

  • This wouldn't be the first game I was playing that switched what it meant to accumulate experience and level.  Now the first one destroyed everything else I liked about the game during the switch over, but if you were playing SWG at the NGE switch, you were not reset -- your skills were translated into xp and you leveled up all at once and moved on.

This would be even easier I think.

But seriously, why in the same interview would he say a reset is highly unlikely only to talk about content that required a reset?  Seems much more logical to just not assume it would require a reset.

  • I am just giddy with excitement at the prospect of customizing my Glitchy home!

I imagine (heh) that when leveling changes, those of us who are high level will just have a bunch of imagination points to spend at once, and that could be fun in and of itself.

    Go Tiny Speck!!

  • Yeah, I speculated in the other thread on discussing the imagination point thing that we might see a wipe of our XP points and levels, but a conversion seems likely too. It depends on which way they go about it. I wouldn't object to either - I consider levels/XP to be one of the least important aspects of my characters, important only for energy maxes. Though, yeah, a conversion would be nice so I could immediately invest into the aspects of my character that interest me.

  • Sounds SO exciting - so many possibilities!!! Kudos to stoot and TS for continuing to "imagine" such a fabulous world for us!!! Thanks for posting this link saucelah! Great info!

  • Man, an exp reset would bounce back SO FAST. At least so far as the first few levels are concerned. The exp rewards for high level skills are pretty great, and it's a lot less mood to keep up than at level 47 xP

  • "If skills learnt are kept, that takes care of the worst of it, not so?"

Skills learned are largely a function of a character's age; level is more strongly related to the time spent in gameplay. (Neither is entirely accurate, but they're in the right direction.) Speaking purely in terms of a simple reset, I'd rather lose my skills than my level.
