Floors and ceilings can't be painted in sections like walls can.

Unless I'm missing something, walls can be different colours or designs but floors and ceilings can only be painted in blocks. It would be nice to able to match floors and ceilings with walls. Carpet and wood paneling in the same house is a radical idea I know but boy oh boy wouldn't it be swell.

*edit* I hope people don't misinterpret my last sentence as being sarcastic. I can see how people might see it that way but it was meant to be light-hearted.

  • I would call this nit picking. Kudos to the devs for what miracles they have wrought  already.
I guess some people are  never ever satisfied with what is...

  • napabeth.... this is probably something they will implement in the future. It's not outlandish or "nitpicking" or anything, just an aspect of the house decorating that seems unfinished (seeing as how this is a test of course). They want people to make suggestions like this, it's not rude or unappreciative. This is a test, not the final way housing will be and suggesting changes is kind of the point of the whole thing. No need to be rude.

mount aspen, I agree I have noticed this too and so far having different wall paper for different sections is kind of our way of making different "rooms" they've said that there will be different interior style/ options to add different rooms in the future so maybe those changes will satisfy this idea.

  • It's not nit picking; if no one makes their ideas or hopes known, then those ideas and hopes will never have a chance of happening. Now that said, this particular subject has been noted before (though I don't think in its own thread), and this is not the final cut for major housing elements.

When it was brought up by a player after the first update (I believe in the first staff created thread for housing), a staff member said that things won't work the way we think they will, and that is why it's like that right now.

My edumacated guess (and it is only a guesstimate of the loosest sort) is that when we have real ways to divide up rooms, we'll be able to choose a color for each room's floor and won't need the ability to change the floor in panels like the walls.

  • I'd like to be able to vary floors annd ceilings to go with my varied walls too.

  • I agree with you Mount Aspen, and I do not think it is nit picking at all. I was one of those who brought this up in the other thread. My assumption is that we will most likely be able to have different flooring in different rooms once we can make room dividers.

  • I had noticed that too.  I assume it's on the "to do" list.

  • Thanks for the replies everyone. I wasn't sure if it was a known issue but it looks like Audaria and others have raised it before me. I hadn't heard about the room dividers but it sounds like that would solve the problem nicely.

  • Staff have said that this might happen, but noted that there's a problem with perspective when you divide the floor into sections. (source)

  • This is beta, and I think we have a right to voice our opinion. I, too, have wanted to paint different sections of my ceiling based on my room.  So I agree with the OP, that is a great idea and one I would LOVE. Along with the floors, actually.

  • It's not a pressing issue to me but completely agreed that yes, eventually this would be nice to be able to do :)

  • The walls work in sections because they are rectangular, but for the ceiling and floor to have sections, it would mean each section being various sized trapezoids; with different lengths of sections and of the house, that seems quite tricky to implement so I wouldn't expect it to happen any time soon.

  • Thanks for finding the original source, Millie. I read some of that thread a while ago but must've missed that bit. I wonder, TomC, if you could overcome 2 odd angled sides by ignoring a central point for fixing perspective and forcing the floor to always divide vertically as do the walls. I'm clueless about coding though so maybe that would make it even harder to implement.
