Has anyone seen any wood trees in Ur recently? I swear I've seen them, but I haven't run across any just by walking in a while, and I kind of need to find one before the game day is over.
Thanks. I had, in fact, already visited an enchanted forest and just plain forgot what was interesting about them.
And knowing that there are only four, even though I've never harvested wood trees for their wood, I'm going to make it a personal goal to double the number of wood trees in Ur outside of the enchanted forests.
1. Wood is worth 4-6 currants per plank, and you get 20-80 planks / harvest (or harvest & clear)
2. Wood trees can (unlike other trees) be harvested to nothing.
3. It takes 5 (or 6?) pet/water combos (or one Fertilidust / Fertilidust Lite) to "undo" two harvests (again, unlike other trees).
4. There's a group of people who specifically target wood trees.
So, wood trees are high-maintenance, valuable resources. And the Tragedy of the Commons ensues.
If you let yourself get attached to that particular pixel grouping (and it's not in your yard), you are highly likely to be sorely diappointed.

Well, good luck with that, Melting Sky. The fact is, wood trees are hard to maintain and easy to kill.
Turning one patch into a wood tree with 4 branches costs one wood tree bean and a jar of Fertilidust. Keeping a public wood tree at 4 branches takes repeated visits by players willing to add more Fertilidust. Turning a 4-branch wood tree into a bare patch costs exactly one visit and one dose of Tree Poison. It took only 1 or 2 dedicated griefers to kill all the wood trees in Ur.
Because of this imbalance, Tiny Speck made enchanted forests, where people can't poison trees but can "dust them up" to help others. Similarly, TS changed the rules on home streets so that non-keyholders couldn't kill your trees. Before that change, 1 or 2 dedicated griefers also enjoyed killing wood trees on home streets, particularly on those streets that were a "Wood Tree Route."
Without mentioning names, I see that only 1 of the 3 most avid wood-tree-killers had his account deleted -- and even that person, for all I know, may have an alt.
Yeah its always been a pain to keep them alive but its sad to see a world devoid of wood trees when they are so useful, particularly for questing newbies. The magic forests were a nice addition although most newbies seem to have trouble finding them.
Wood trees were given a nice upgrade recently which is that they grow in with three branches now instead of starting as a stump. I think there might be a card for it.
On the other hand the addition of the new tree changing potion to the game has made things tougher since in the end the main thing killing the wood trees is a few extremely obsessive tree poisoners rather than the usual over harvesting. With a bag full of potions you can go through and change every wood tree in Ur to something else in a matter of minutes or even change all of the spice tree roads into other tree types.
With poisoning, people could at least stop griefers with an antidote and more importantly the "poisoners guilt" keeps a single person from killing off more than a few trees at a time. With the potion there is no cool down.
Anyway, I'll still plant them during those rare occasions that I am on. : )
