Make map accessible from all homes

I just moved to a bog home and got the nasty surprise of having lost my ability to access the map from my home. I've been playing since July, and this is the first time I've known this was only a bonus of the mod-style houses (i guess) and not a regular feature of the game.

I don't bitch and moan about much in this game, but this is somehow the limit. It doesn't make any logical sense, AND it is a completely unnecessary and arbitrary bonus attached to an area already extremely desirable in comparison to the rest of the housing.

I'm begging you TS, change this. Now. No really, now.

  • I own a 50k home and if I visit a bog home, I can't see my GPS map while I am in that home, so the map isn't a feature of the type of house you own, it's a feature of the location that you're in.  I'm not sure if you can see the map if you're in a Bureaucratic Hall, Machine Room, or other non-home locations.

It's weird, regardless. I stand in support of being able to see the map from homes of all sorts!

  • Um, I thought it was clear from the OP that I understood it to be an aspect of location and not a personal attribute.

ps. I understand it is a small thing, but it's the little things that make the biggest differences in your day-to-day isn't it?

  • I feel like this is certainly a quality-of-life change worth making.

  • Some have implied in other threads that it may be a perk for those with 50K homes and that perhaps that's a good thing (indirectly). Although I could swear I've read some people say that they can;'t access the map from their new 50K home, I don't own one and I can't dispute that as a possibility, as distasteful and inherently elitist as I find it to be, but  my own thought was that they originally tied the ability to homes but as later ones were added they either forgot to include it or, alternatively removed the function due to a game paradigm change within TS, and that this disparity is an accidental oversight do to failing to strip the ability from homes added prior to some indeterminate date of creation.

If TS is going to keep a relatively even playing field and sense of fairness in play, the ability to view the map (and, btw, do anything else that any other players are able to do with that map currently in locations that do have the ability - aside of course from admin level abilities that TS employees might have - ) either needs to be enabled for all homes or removed from all of them.

I'm not saying anything you don't already know. It is quite simple to run a quick background task to globally set that column to false, and unless you're using a different database for the new vs old homes (which would be strange, at least to me), there should be no problem setting it true either. It does not require any reset and the variable can be recycled with a few simple database manipulations. If it is not an oversight and IS TS's intention to do away with it (I am not promoting the idea of removing, just equalizing. I would far prefer to have the ability to see a map, regardless of map-initiated-teleport capability within the home), then strip the ability from those homes that do have it and let the chips fall where they may

I would hope that TS isn't playing favorites. A doll, a cubimal, or music block for beta testers is one thing. A basic ability is another. Truth is, any of us can read a map in the roughest, poorest neighborhood and the finest upscale gated community with the same technical ease, be it from our electronic devices, or by using a paper map.
