Thiefs on their way

Well, i had 4 meatcollectors, one Piggifeeder and a Butterflymilker in front if my Test House.
Since some days thiefs are running around and steel everything they can catch. Today they picked up my whole stuff too, i only have two friend signs open.
I dont mind much about my filled meatcollectors or about the currants.
It makes me sad, to miss a special spirit in here, no respect for others.
Not all people for sure. Still meet new nice people in here.
I gone tell you, i still miss Faunasphere.
The spirit in there i never was able to find again.
Hope, the Thiefs feel happy today.
A Happy Easter to all the nice people in here, including the whole Staff!!!!

  • I guess we'll just have to live with it.

  • Thief is singular, thieves is plural.
    I'm sorry for your loss.
I'll see what I can do about that.

  • Maybe he means that there is a new glitch bandit whose name is self-pluralizing (like sheep) called a "thiefs" that comes and removes stuff you leave in publicly accessible places.

  • It is sad that people yoink stuff that people have intentionally installed, I agree.

How many friends you have listed on your own signpost doesn't affect who can get to your street; neither does who you have on your friend list -- anyone can add you to their friend list, and anyone who has you on their friend list can put you on their sign.  That means everyone in the game except those on your blocked list can go to your home street any time they want.

I think *most* glitchen are kind and cooperative.  However, there are enough people who are into certain sorts of griefing, or just amassing resources without much regard for others, that their cruising home streets for the valuable property some people are in a habit of leaving there is enough to make that property quite unsafe.

I don't really get why some people persist in planting collectors, feeders, and milkers in home streets when it's so well known that they get taken.  Put them in your backyard!  Get an old-style house and put them in the backyard there!  You can make your home street more awesome once R2 comes out.

  • Wooly Foxlet, you used the word "yoink" as a verb.  I think I love you.

  • I miss faunasphere too, Cervello :)

I think it really helped that, in that game, EVERYTHING in your home world was locked to you.  No problem with thieving of any kind, and anyone could come admire your lovely home anytime with you worrying.  It was a nice feature that promoted having company over (and showing off your artistic handiwork) in a worry-free way.

Still really like this game though, and the developers and staff and owner and everyone involved are WAY cooler than any other game I've ever played!!

  • I also miss Faunasphere but we had jerks there too.  They would have stolen your sphere bare had they been able but fortunately it was impossible to take anything from the spheres, not even the party refreshments.

Sadly you will find people like this in every game or community.  That is just the way some people play and some games actually encourage thieving so some of these folks have played those.  I am very sorry this happened to you.  If you ever discover who did it you can Block them.  It is best not to place anything on your street that you cannot afford to lose.  I have lost those items twice.  I hate that it happened but I am also working on the Tool Making Achievements so I just made more of them.  Thank Goodness I have hoarded a lot of metal and wood!

  • From the tittle I thought it was a warning...like he had a stable of thieves that had recently been released upon the world.

On topic: I've said it before it's not this game or any game, it is people. Tragedy of the commons. This is what happens when there are no direct immediate consequences.

  • From all the pictures I wish I'd known about Faunasphere before it closed.  But then, I would have been sad because it closed.  Oh well. :)

  • People, please stop leaving stuff on your streets. You can't leave your television set on your front lawn in the real world, either. Yes, it would be swell if things were different here but they're not.

Every week it's more tales of woe about people stealing valuable stuff from people's front lawns. If you saw this in the newspaper you'd be stunned that people kept doing it.

  • Yeah, this sure has gotten to be a "doctor, it hurts when I do this" situation.

  • A few years ago we had a futon we decided we wanted to get rid of. I decided to do an experiment and placed it on our front porch: not out of the ordinary, as lots of people put furniture on their porches. I joked that I thought it would be gone by morning. Sadly, it was actually gone by morning.

  • I heard a funny story in that vein.  Someone was trying to get rid of a piece of furniture that way, but it sat out for a week or so.  They finally had a bright idea: put a sign on it saying "$50 or best offer" and it was gone the same day.

  • Someone left me a feeder. It lasted three days and was gone, but replaced by a meat collector.

At this point in time, anything you leave in your street is pretty much fair game with the exception of gnomes. Trees can be killed etc etc.

So the wise man says: Don't leave stuff in your street if you don't want to lose it.
It would be lovely if this wasn't something we had to worry about, BUT I'm firmly of the opinion that the majority of Glitchen wouldn't steal, it's the small percentage of players who would who are the problem. But they're not reading this, because they are out pushing Elderly Glitchen down the Hole to Ix.

  • I think all FS refugees miss it very much, even though this game is absolutely terrific and has made a wonderful home for us, but there was that occasional problem with totem poachers who would leave no resources for loyal patrons and by so doing stall our leveling up in FS. Ah, well, such is life, even in gaming. I am so sorry someone filched your stuff, but it truly is the risk you take when you leave anything unlockable in areas accessible to others. If you value your things, don't tempt the baddies.

  • Well, someone put some butterflies on my street today. That was sweet. :)

  • Well, seems like people have been having only bad experiences :) It's not always so! I have a happier story to tell, myself.

I have never done anything to my /home street other than plant the bubble trees that mark me as a member of that route.

Despite that my street has, in it's lifetime, been home to a dozen different animals, a myriad of collectors, feeders, and milkers, as well as piles and piles of gifts and dropped items :)

Just today I received the amusing present of a Chickimal named 'I ain't got no eggs' on my front step.

It's not all bad folks, and it can only go uphill from here, and don't any of you forget it ;)

  • @Lily Frog, Esq

Sorry, off topic, but I laughed out loud at "... because they are out pushing Elderly Glitchen down the Hole to Ix. " Thank you! :D

On topic -- yes, at this time, things put in your front yard have an implied "steal me!" sign on them for a small proportion of the Glitch population. Nothing (other than blocking, if you are fortunate enough to determine the culprits) will stop them -- certainly not bemoaning the fact. Best to either accept that things may disappear -- or not provide temptation in the first place.

I get the impression that TS will be addressing this in some way -- but for now ...

  • Thank you all for your wonderful comments! Make me feel better today. Even there is a nice
community in here too, i still love the game.
The whole Staff and all the Developers are doing a great work, i wish, people would have more
    respect for that.
Cause there was one question in my head:
If people do not respect a game, what will happen in real life?
So our world today is a mess, and we all should stay together to handle it!
Thats my Spirit i always try to stay in.
Sorry for my worse English, my native language is German.
Everybody have fun and thanks so much!

  • @ Lily Frog, Esq (and Watson)

I too lmao when I read your post! So much so that I'm gonna go stake out that hole and try to catch it on film...

  • clearly, leaving meat collectors and milkers in your yard does not mean "steal me!", but with other items, I assume that they were left on the street because the owner wanted others to have them. I myself leave items on my home street that I don't want (RKs and such), and they always get taken, and that's ok.

someone did pick up on the comedy-themed names of my chickens and butterflies once, and left two pigs named "George Carlin" and "Monty Python"! XD so there's one example of anonymous awesomeness on home streets.
