The Public Property Protection Pledge (PPPP)

I love exploring the world of Glitch, but there are a couple of things that always get me down: one is sad piggies, and one is dead trees.

It's a sad sign of the selfishness of the majority that there are so many streets filled with chickens and butterflies, but with no piggies. Those piggies were probably hatched from their eggs the same as the chickens and butterflies, but, alas, they require a degree of care that citizens of Glitch just weren't willing to offer. The selfish bait them and carry them home, so that what was once a public resource becomes only theirs to use. Or worse, the poor piggies die of neglect, while glitches walk straight on past, or whiz through on their teleports not even aware of their existence. It's a similar story with the trees in many of the firebog areas, who die of thirst, ignored.

So I will make a stand against neglect of our public resources, by making this pledge:

*****
The Public Property Protection Pledge

I hereby pledge to:

- Walk the streets of Ur to maintain our public resources.
- Ensure the well-being of our piggies by nibbling (as much as possible) any piggy I come across in my travels, and dropping food for them should they require feeding.
- Add piggies to busy public streets in low-pig areas.
- Hatch piggies from eggs when I want them for my own home, rather than kidnap piggies from streets.
- Water and pet wood trees, to keep them alive, and not harvest them unless I need to.
- Frequently water and pet the trees in the firebog areas, particularly in dead-end streets, to ensure a good supply of gas and spice for those who need it.
- Replant dead trees with new saplings.

And should any new public resource require maintaining, I will also go out of my way to ensure that they are in good shape for all to use.

  • The alektorophobes and lepidopterophobes (that's chicken-phobic and butterfly-phobic to you!) cope, so why shouldn't they? ;)

Actually, I would rather folks remove piggies that are over populated or area lacking food sources and move them to area that can support them.

  • @Lord Bacon-o We're going to be trying to support them though :) Although I did mean "for your own home" in that point. I will edit...

  • I will make an effort, Sari. But I think street piggies that are pignapped respawn quickly automatically.

  • I don't think I've ever seen that happen Cindy, but I'll do an experiment...

ETA: test results - piggies don't respawn. Please look after them!

  • Saro-I am with you. That is how I already play my game so no biggie for me :)

  • Just a couple of basic queries to be sure I've not got this muddled, if noone minds:
So, am I right in thinking that on streets with trees, piggies get food drops when you harvest the tree, but on streets with no trees they're dependant on Glitchen leaving food?
Also; piggies say 'nibbled out' or similar when hungry, yes? Do you have to feed via the clicky menu, or can you just drop foodstuffs?

  • Yup, piggies sometimes get fed if they're next to a tree being harvested. If a piggy doesn't want to be nibbled, it's hungry. Dropping a single grain on the ground next to the piggy should be sufficient :) But food dropped not directly next to a hungry pig doesn't always get eaten, so check your piggy goes to the good and says "yum" before you leave!

Is what I thought of when I first saw this thread... 4 years too many in the Military hehe. I think most people try to feed/pet them, but it happens and piggies of native count size to a map do respawn if they die (if the map should have 3 piggies and 1 dies, another will respawn... saw it once).

  • I play this way as well. It's the nice thing to do...

  • If a piggy doesn't want to be nibbled, you can feed them from the piggy menu.  No need to drop food and hope that they eat it.

  • Things on this list can get in the way of other positive gameplay.  Sometimes, it's a benefit to let things die or keep patches bare.  That doesn't make following the list all the time the wrong thing to do, but it won't please everybody everytime.
Posted 16 months ago by Tingly Claus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @WindBorn I stopped doing that after a few occasions when the piggy ate and was still sad :/ I think it might be an old bug though.

@Tingly I think it's certainly not necessary for lots of people to do this, but it would be nice if we can get a small but solid group of players who do go by this :)

  • Yeah, I'm not worried about it, just saying.

  • @c0mad0r...ah yes...the 7Ps...lol...works for me...lol..(ty)

@Saro....like Holly said, that's how i play the Game too...i am with you for sure.....

  • Count me in.. just added a couple of piggies to several streets that had none and I usually feed piggies who tell me they don't want to be nibbled so no changes needed for me to fall in with this plan :)

  • I find giving piggies 10 eggs is sufficient to allow nibbling.
Posted 16 months ago by KitkatCat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • mmm I'll pass on this. Interferes with my game play.
Posted 16 months ago by Piratice Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I was contemplating this exact thing earlier today, and fits with my style of game playing.
    I'll pledge!
Posted 16 months ago by Eldorian Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Piggies like cheese sammiches.

I pledge to do all of the above (although, I harvest when I can- but also maintain the trees at the same time)-

And replant trees to keep areas nice, shady and well-maintained for other Glitchens to come.
Posted 16 months ago by Zeezee Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Really, I wouldn't worry about this. Dead trees serve a purpose: people can chop them down, and replant, both of which are important to achievements. Until the patch filter on the locations page starts showing lots of patches, it's probably safe to assume that people are taking care of them.

Ditto for piggies: it doesn't matter if people are taking them away and they're not respawning automatically. People will come and hatch new ones automatically.

  • With the collection in my pen I dont take much notice of the animals out in the streets .... HOWEVER, I am making my way through the Egg (and bean) Seasoning achievements, so feel free to IM in game next test with a street that is in need of piggies (or chickens, butterflies) and I'll head over there... I'm nearly at the 503 mark and therefore have plenty of pig/chicken/butterfly eggs that need hatching!

  • So I should stop capturing piggies to sacrifice to the local shrine?

ETA: I stopped after the first one :)
Posted 16 months ago by Tzombor Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ok, so call me a thread necromancer, but a new issue has come to my attention - community garden animal pens.

Just like anywhere else that's full of animals, these found themselves empty of piggies very quickly. Unlike anywhere else that's full of animals, it would be very difficult to complain about some piggies in animal pens...

So please, replenish these pens frequently and feed the piggies, and everyone can make the most of a wonderful resource :)
Posted 15 months ago by Saro Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I pledge!

I've also started PCAH - Public Charity Animal Husbandry group - any one who takes the pledge is welcome to join =)
Posted 15 months ago by Ifni Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Saro, I replenished the pen in my local community garden today with three pigs. (I also left a note asking for the pig to be left in that pen & that anyone who takes meat from them to feed the pigs a little of the grain from the chickens in the pen.)  We'll see what happens.

I also set about 5 or so butterflies loose in areas that had none.

Now that I have the Skill to make animal eggs, I will keep close eyes on this.

Thanks again for the group invite, Ifni.
