Housing wish list (things that are missing with the new housing system)

So I have been trying to think of why Im not crazy about the new housing (vs. the old neighborhood style) and it dawned on me the things that are missing.

1. I miss the old home exteriors, A LOT!  I miss having a groddle style exterior home, and I have yet to see a nice replacement.  I miss the Alakol exteriors, and the treehouse exteriors.

2. I really miss the interior options for our homes.  Like, the firebog homes had rounded walls, holes in the floors, ladders.  The treehouse type homes that were totally rounded out on the inside.

3. I miss having interior walls/separate rooms.

4. I miss some of the old interior designs like the pink striped wallpaper, the crooked grandfather clock, the weird couch i had, etc.

I know I am not alone in this.  What do you miss from your old homes?

TS - Are we going to get some of these back, please?

  • I know the real estate aspect of housing wasn't realistic long term, but I still miss that! It was exciting to find a house (either first one or a new location/style) and save for it, or sell my current house to move. I haven't played a game that had that before and I always loved it! It really added a dynamic feel to the housing and made the houses feel more special.

  • Aeralis' idea is great one!
I can already see exploring upside down/ inside out boggy homes and towers
Want to add an eggplant to your home?  Dig a hole! What to add a bubble tree?  Build a balcony or mound?

I really enjoy the new housing and it's many options; however, I Do miss a sense of having to make a choice:  A vs B.

    Nice topic!

  • I miss the Alakol houses in terms of light - it seems a lot of the wall/flooring types we can choose from are very dark and heavy which I don't enjoy.  Alakol-style balconies are definitely top of my list too.  Furniture stuff I don't care about.

ETA: God yeah, the pig pens.

  • Heatseekers idea of furniture on your street it great. I would love to be able to decorate my street Instead of putting resource items out there. Make it a hang out spot, lounge, etc

  • I would like to see some storage for my backyard. Something similar to the boxes we use inside..A place to put all my flower and vegie seeds. As it stands they are stored on the ground by the garden plots. It's inconvenient to run back inside to pull them out.Plus outside furniture so I can put the feeders and collectors on them..So much litters my grounds!

  • I miss my old fire-bog house which had separate rooms - with walls between then, and holes in the floor you could jump down to the next level, and being able to grow an egg plant in the middle of the floor.

I also miss having a basement... i.e. a floor lower than your front door... that was my "factory"... now my house is too house-like!  Not like living underground.

  • I really miss my balcony and being able to have a garden on it. I wish we could be able to build our own modular homes and decorate them as we please. I do appreciate what TS has done to accommodate our ideas and wishes thus far so don't get me wrong. I just really miss the old mod. homes and having the pig pens as well.

  • I miss the way housing was yours. You picked out your home. You stalked the real-estate listings for a house if you had to. And when you got it, that was an accomplishment. Your home was unique; there was nothing else like it. It had its own number!

I miss the way housing was unique. No other MMO has housing that you have to pick and choose. Housing that what you buy is what you get, no expansion, which was a bummer for some but endearing for me for some reason. I liked that.

But I don't want to go back to it, because I don't think we can anymore.

  • Ohhh, I miss indoor plants a lot, too.  Maybe one day we can have craftable pots for plants and trees?  That'd be awesome.

  • While I've grown to enjoy various aspects of the new housing, I'm still a little sore over losing my creepy little hovel in Erra Kandi Quarter.

It's kind of nice reading through this thread and finding out that I'm not alone in this.  I most definitely miss the non-rectangular interiors.  I think the shoebox analogy is totally apt.  I've seen a few people use it here and there.  I miss the rooftop gardens, too.  Plus, the ladders that hung through holes in the floor, the exploratory tree-roots issuing down from my ceiling like visitors from above, and a tie to a physical location in Ur -

Because it wasn't just "custom housing" (which is an MMO staple, anymore).  This little glitch, Kipple, actually lived in Aranna, or in Kajuu, and so did his/her neighbors; we all rode the subway and griped about how far away from everything we were.  There was a feeling there of Ur being this place that had to be traversed.  You know what?  Lem would get it!  Where was Lem when these new homes happened?

Most of all, I miss not having the same basic property layout as everyfreakingone in the w'Urld.  Nowadays, we've ALL got a house on the right, a yard on the left, and between one and four(?) eclectically decorated floors.  Sure, there's variety, but it's more like having different flavors of the same brand soft drink than, I don't know, a choice between water, two kinds of fruit juice, assorted brand cola, lemonade, coffee (decaf or regular!), or screw-all-that-stuff-I-want-pie-and-a-copy-of-yesterday's-newspaper.

  • Totally with you, Kipple. I liked having to choose. I liked that my choices influenced other stuff, like what skills I learned. I like that it felt regional and organic. *sigh*

  • Yep - balconies, windows, walls/multiple rooms per floor holes in the floor, ladders, ropes, exterior basements.  Yep, missing them all.  Love the ability to decorate, but definitely miss these 'basics' that we had previously.

  • I really miss my treehouse.  I miss climbing up the tree to get to my little cottage and having to jump or climb to get to my backyard.  I wish I could get rid of my bottom floor and make it a tree trunk again.  I still have one teleport spot set to outside my front door, even if it no longer exists

  • I miss my house being bound to a region of my choosing. And I miss aspects of moving and the real estate system.

Home streets should have an anchor point in a region that each glitch chooses. New glitches would make that choice when they get their papers. Before then their house is located on a generic street.  The 'anchor point' would be gate posts sort of like the 'residential blocks' of the past.  Each glitch would attach to a gate on a particular street in Ur that would be the entry and exit from their home street.

The choice of anchor point would partially define the theme and background art of our home streets. And it would determine where a glitch lands in Ur when they leave their home street.

If a glitch chooses for example to locate in a bog region, the resources they can place on their street would be limited to the bog resources. Full freedom to place any resources would be limited to the back yard.

Glitches would be free to relocate to a different region, but would then bear the cost of 'resetting' their home street to an 'emtpy' state and have to pick resources for it that match the new region. Back yards, houses, and towers could be carried along in the move intact as is.
