Towers are a fun and exciting new feature, with endless possibilities. A lot of people use them for second homes, lounges, workshops, and stores, but I think one of the most exciting ideas is creating Museums. Museums are places that can entertain, educate, and inform. But most importantly, they are a new type of attraction created by players for players, that give us new in-game content and new areas to explore.

I saw HeyHeyHolly's Fruit Museum, and decided to build one myself, and it was a lot of fun. So if you have a tower, and don't know what to do with it, I would strongly recommend creating a Museum. Check out some of the museums listed below and consider building one yourself.

Theme Advice
I would think in general it's best to focus on a particular aspect of the game (or two) to focus on, rather than cataloging every activity, tool, and item in the game, or just a random collection of unrelated items. This will keep you focused on creating unique or entertaining exhibits related to every aspect of your chosen topic.
Also, even if you have an idea that might not seem strong enough to focus on, know that new features are planned for towers that will radically expand the current possibilities. Features like player-made art, or using Glitchr snaps for teleportation guides are planned (per stoot).

Construction advice
I think it's a good idea to use a note pole in your lobby, to let people know more about your museum and how it's organized. If you're using your tower for more than just the museum, this is a good place to let people know where the museum ends, and your general public spaces begin. Be sure to group all your museum floors together so they aren't skipped over. The general format I used is Lobby - Lobby and Gift Shop, and different Exhibits on different floors.

Exhibit advice
Use whatever you want to hold and display your items, but in general, Side Tables, Counters, Shelves, and SDBs are your friends. When placing physical items, make sure you are in Decorate Mode, as this will prevent players from being able to pick up the item. I was a big fan of placing a physical item rather than just using SDBs because this will allow players to physically click on the item, in case they wanted to check the in-game 'Info' screen that displays descriptions and item value. If a new player is in your museum they would probably appreciate this feature.

Note Pole advice
Place guides to your exhibits on note poles. Without these, you're really just displaying a random series of items. These are also the best place for you to express yourself and your vision for the museum, so why wouldn't you want to use them?

If you currently have a Museum, post your information below with a link to visit your home street, and maybe a pic or two of your museum.

I'm sure there will eventually be a route for museums [Ed. note: There totally is now], which Egiantine is helping to organize. I hope you all enjoy visiting, exploring, and creating museums. Here is her group. Here is the route page.

  • Very cool idea! I'll consider this for sure! If I can decide on something I'd like to showcase.

  • I do have a museum of sorts. A floor (so far) dedicated to Gemstone Therapy.
Gemstones displayed in SDBs and below them are note poles which contains the meaning of the gemstone.

I am really hoping they add more gemstones as this is something I do in rl.

It's still being built and I will have TONS more information as time goes on.
Take a look at my photo here and come visit anytime!

  • The Museum of Jellisac is open on my street, and it looks like this.

  • Thanks for the link to my museum, Haze! Here are a few others that I think are just fabulous.

The Museum of Jellisac (just posted above, I see) is small and extremely potent. I recommend it without reservation.  Visit

ETA: The Museum of Jellisacs (note the plural) has many, many exhibits and is pretty funny. Beware the top floor... Visit

Signal Museum (greenkozi) is a beautifully arranged museum of found notes. Visit

Nat'UR'al History Museum (MikkiO) is more about the beauty of the exhibits themselves. MikkiO is an artist in RL and it shows. Visit

  • Oh noes the Museum of Jellisacs is larger and slightly more amusing than my Museum of Jellisac . . . *mortified sob*

  • I really enjoyed Haze's mining museum and intend to visit others.  While I didn't learn anything I didn't already know, I can see these museums as being a significant resource to offer to new players.

  • Some of our museums are antieducational, for lack of a better word. ;)

  • Bhikku: Your museum of Jellisac is absolutely gorgeous! I think there is plenty of space in Ur for two museums devoted to the miracle that is Jellisacs. :)

Making my museum has been one of the best times I've had on Glitch so far! I made new friends and joined a group and finally have a real, rewarding goal to work towards.
I can't wait to go out there and explore the various museums other Glitches have made!

  • Haze has done better at photographing my museum than I have so far, LOL! I haven't taken a single snap except for the construction phases.

I'm coming to visit all y'all next time I'm in the world.

  • Edit : no longer doing Museum

  • Nice OP. Thanks! I really want to build a nice tower, but Ur Fairness In Housing laws have me stymied. I have a whack job living on the 5th floor who both alarms me and inhibits my ability to beautify the whole building. Her notes are growing increasingly disturbing. You should read them.

  • Wow, I finally have an interesting direction to take with my tower! I plan to create the Anti-Educational Museum of Spice on my third and possibly even fourth floors! I may even finally spend some of my credits on some new wallpaper! Thanks from the bottom of my heart to Haze :)

  • Water Works Wonders isn't exactly a museum but it does feature this exhibit offering the choice of half-full or half-empty Cups of Water:

    lem.to/p/pgg2

The second floor, inspired by greenkozi's Signal Museum, celebrates and solicits the creation of Notes:

    lem.to/p/HwUK

Both are in the early stages and will hopefully become less barren in the coming days.

  • To follow up my idea here, I have a few progress photos of the various moving parts that will combine into my spice museum!

Here, here, and here, we have the lobby and general fanciness area. It is, of course, a work in progress ;) Feel free to help me with the design by leaving comments! I think maybe this sofa or this sofa may work better than what I'm considering now!

Here, we have the initial forays into the spice museum proper. I'm debating whether this will be able to span multiple floors :) I'm also thinking the shelves of meat and milk won't make the final cut ;) Other spice related things will probably beat it out. Or maybe some nice decoration :)

Finally, we have the initial design of a museum gift shop. The snap says it all really. I've put a lot of thought into this space, directly below the museum proper, but I haven't changed anything in it yet, so it's still a total storefront. I plan to sell all manner of spice related knickknacks, at gift shop prices of course ;)

  • The Museum of Jellisacs has now officially opened its doors!

Touch an actual Jellisac in our unique 'Poke-a-Jelli' exhibit!
Learn all you ever wanted to know (and more!) about Jellisacs in the 3-part story "Journeys of a Gloopmeister" by Scarf!
Marvel at the Jellisac that bears an uncanny resemblance to Grendaline!
Experience the thrill and excitement as you read and see the story of Ilmenskie Jones and the Predatory Jellisac of Chakra Phool, re-enacted by cubimals!
Feel the warm glow of kindness as you donate random resources to the floor projects!
And last but certainly not least, see the actual, real-life Predatory Jellisac of Chakra Phool safely contained in our very own museum! (At your own risk)

Of course, it would be rather silly to go home empty handed, so visit the souvenir shop to buy your very own Jellisac!

More exhibits will be added in the future, such as the all-knowing Jellisac collective and an  interactive fuelmaking display. Feel free to donate anything you like to help the museum flourish.
Most of all, we're looking for interesting tidbits about various unique kinds of Jellisacs to add to our exhibits. Snaps, notecards, poems,... Anything creative!

  • I don't know if it quite counts as a museum, but I am about halfway done making my Shrine to Area Completion above my bar.  It has note poles about areas to check out grouped with the needed TP Scripts and other supplies.  The supplies are for sale, so people can use them.

I am pretty excited by how it's shaping up so far :)

  • I think mine are mostly finished.  Lobby is Sno Cone museum, 2nd floor is Museum of Rare and Discontinued Items (looking for donations/loans of SB-1, T-1 and dusty stick!  LOL) and the 3rd floor is the Museum of Alchemy. :)

  • There should be badges for renaming one's tower multiple times  :)

UR MUSEUM OF WINE, WOMEN & SONG is open and welcoming visitors. I expect I'll be tinkering with it for some time to come (anyone got a spare GNG or SB-1?) but the basics are there.

Eventually another floor will house a gift shop, but I'm in no hurry.

Thanks for letting me be part of the route!

  • I'm working on a Bean Museum in Griz's Hill of Beans. Should be done in a few days. The tower is up, I just need to decorate and finish the 3rd floor. (So many snails!)

  • I linked to Louis Louisson at the top of my signpost; if we're going to link, should we choose a signpost spot?
Posted 5 months ago by Mnēmē Subscriber! | Permalink
  • the route signpost spot is a flexible #3: if you're already on a route that needs the #3 slot, you can pick some other slot! just put a note pole by your sign explaining it. museum-goers are good at reading note poles, they'll figure it out :)

  • Just a question on displays, are items placed on countertops and shelves considered "soul locked" to you. Meaning, other Glitches can't pick them up. I remember reading something about this in another thread but can't remember if it they were soul-locked or not. Just trying to plan out my displays.
Posted 5 months ago by Griselda Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I tried placing a number of items in decorate mode in my museum on counters and shelves and pedestals and other things. I had a friendly glitch come by and test them for me and some could be picked up while others could not. It seemed to be totally random. Trust it at your peril at this point, Griselda. That is just my opinion.

  • A lot of these seem to have the exhibits for sale, strange for a museum...
Posted 5 months ago by Janitch Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Any museum could have a gift-shop, why not?:)
Posted 5 months ago by nekomaki Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I would suggest if you're concerned about rare items being accidentally picked up by visitors, to place those items in an SDB instead of displaying them on shelves or tables. In my experience things placed in decorate mode can't be picked up, but I understand it's not 100% reliable. The things I have on display in the fruit museum are fairly common and easy to replace if they go missing, fortunately none of them have done so, but I can understand the concerns of someone displaying rarer items.

I haven't visited all the museums yet, but I haven't noticed any "exhibits" for sale. Gift shop floors certainly, but the exhibits are exhibits.
Posted 5 months ago by HeyHeyHolly Subscriber! | Permalink
  • In the interest of transparency for The Museum of Secrets: the reason my paper in my exhibit set for "Sale" is that is the only way to make large quantities publicly available for those that want to leave a secret but don't have any paper. It is a whopping 1c. I have also left out quills on a shelf, in the hope those will be used and then left behind. But a few have been picked up and I have replaced them. I don't see my museum as a money maker. :) It is an amusement maker....at least for me.
