Learning Skills

No time penality for layered skills.
Eg. (made-up skills) Heart Making I takes 9 hrs and Heart Making II takes 9 days. But, as soon as you start Heart Making I, Heart Making II goes up by a day. What's up with that? There is NO WAY you can learn the second without the first!

But, if it's necessary, okay. Have a nice day. :)
Okay, even IF it's NOT necessary, it's still okay. :)

  • I agree that skill penalties should be revamped. Learning should be rewarded and we should never need to unlearn something. (As a future teacher I'm kind of offended by Unlearning.)

Glitchen who want to learn the whole Skill table shouldn't have to take two months to learn the last five skills.

  • I disagree.  While I can understand being uncomfortable with the concept of unlearning, there is a certain kind of game dynamic that is encouraged by making it increasingly difficult to learn the whole skill tree.  It encourages Glitches to specialize, while still giving them the ability to adapt, and thus gives us the incentive to rely on each other, using teamwork to create things.

If every Glitch can easily learn every skill, then those differences go entirely away, and we not only become self sufficient (in which case we might as well be playing a solo game offline), but we have no reason to be proud of our forethought in picking certain skills.

In fact, I am of the opinion that it is still a little too easy to learn everything.

  • Carl.... your insane (in a nice way ;)!  Who wants to spend up to 3.5 months learning skills for an online game.  I know i sure wouldn't want to have to wait 3.5 months to learn every skill!

I 100% disagree with this.  The learning penalty (3% per skill above your cap, compounded) is there to force you to pick and choose within the skill tree.  Although it has been possible to learn the entire skill tree, as time goes by this will become more and more difficult, and by design.   The passive ideal is that there will be miners who buy food and alchemists who buy ore and cooks who will buy powders.  People will specialize and occupy economic niches.   From an overall gameplay point of view that is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing.

In that spirit I have completely unlearned all AK, cooking and cropping skills.  I was tired of them and they aren't really necessary to my game play at the moment - AK felt like a chore, cooking was getting old and I could not bring myself to plant any more crops.  Food is cheap in the game. Why not just buy it with the proceeds from other activites?    As a result, my adjusted time for learning Furniture making II is 2 days and my adjusted time for learning Bureaucratic skills III is 8 days.   You do not need to know everything - there's no status associated with it.
