The Chick Who Hoarded Jellisacs: An Illustrated Tale of Ur

There was a chick who liked to hoard jellisacs. This is not new; all chicks like to hoard things, and they try and they try but they can't get out of Glitchen bags, and this makes them very angry and irritable, even when smiled at (never smile at a chick.)

Now, there used to be jellisacs all over Ur, not just in the bogs. They were green and glistening and really very pretty, and they grew in abundance for the use of all Glitchen. Jellisacs are very agreeable creatures. But all that changed when the chick got free and decided to hoard.

It had escaped from the bag when the owner set it down on the ground for a moment to collect an emblem. It had run away on its little chick feet and hid behind some bushes. This would have easily failed had the flowers on the bushes not been yellow. But they were, and the owner couldn't find the chick, so she gave up in disgust and moved on, and the chick was free!

Jellisacs were everywhere, so it decided to hoard jellisacs (it was not a very hard-working chick; it preferred to have a nice, easily-gotten hoard instead of a hoard made of sweat and chicky tears--a hoard of, say, dolls, or diamonds, or icons.)

The chick traveled all around Ur, sneaking onto subways, and sometimes simply running on its little chick feet, always hiding behind bushes with yellow flowers. Those bushes are everywhere too, and still are. Perhaps you can't see them. But I digress.

The chick found jellisacs everywhere. Cavey places, weirdy places, pretty places, and even beany places. It stripped all the places it found, taking away all the jellisacs, for what is a collection if you don't have everything? And the chick brought all the jellisacs back to its hoardy place. (There are yellow-flowered bushes in all those areas. Where do you think the chick went to hide, when the Glitchen came searching for it? It couldn't have hid anywhere else, except for the painful pipe in its hoardy place.)

Then one day it wandered into the bogs. There were no yellow-flowered bushes here, but there were many dark corners to hide, corners so dark they concealed even a bright yellow chick. The corners were a bit smelly, like batterflies had left some guano there a few months ago, though there were no batterflies in the bogs. But it was all worth it.

Because there were jellisacs everywhere! All the other places had no more, for the chick had stripped them, but the bogs, they were full of them! The chick reached up for one greedily. It meant to grab a glistening green jellisac in its little chicky wing, but then--but then--it slipped, for it was so small, and it had leaned up too far, and it hadn't paid attention to its chicky feet for it was staring at the beautifiul green jellisac right above it. And the chick landed right in a pile of peat. Smelly peat. Dirty peat. Chick-staining peat.

A passing butterfly stopped to laugh, and a hen clucked and shook its head. "Children these days," the chick could hear her say. "So ridiculous, grabbing for jellisacs and not running from Glitchen like real chickens."

The chick never went back to the bogs.

And this is why jellisacs grow only in the bogs. The chick never got the chance to strip them. Treat your jellisacs well, glitchen. Remember the chick and treat them well. Never strip a place of jellisacs. They may regrow for you. Or they may not, like they did for the chick...

What? The bushes with yellow flowers, the ones that hid the chick? You say you can't see them? I'll tell you that they were friends with the jellisacs. As the chick harvested all the jellisacs away, the bushes, hearing their screams of agony, disappeared, so they might never, ever, ever hide a jellisac-hoarding, greedy, renegade chick again.
