How much (if any!) iMG are you saving for the housing reset?

Just curious as to what other people's thoughts are on this area.

Personally, I love my house, and would love to build a nice multifloor edifice with plenty of farming space, a nice balcony, etc... probably not as big (internally) as my current 50k house, but something along the same lines, anyway.

My original plan was to keep a decent reserve of iMG for the housing reset, but the amount I'm planning on saving (just like in meatspace, really...) keep diminishing as I see more skill cards I quite like the look of as each new day ticks over.

I'm currently down to 400k (having spent about 500k). I've gone light on brain capacity for the time being because the numbers scare me and I don't mind putting them off a little while (as I suspect new skills are further off than the housing reset).

What are the rest of you doing, and why?

  • Well, I intended on saving 500k, even though stoot said 100k. Buuuuuut... now I'm at 110k. >.> So I think I'll just use whatever iMG I have over 100k as I get it. I figure even if I dip below some, it's pretty easy to get it back up there. A few donations and "Voila!"

ETA: Also, the house itself won't cost iMG, or at least expanding it during testing only asked for materials to be added to projects. The land expansion will be what costs the iMG.

  • Yes, I was thinking more about the outside stuff for iMG, but wasn't sure how it would end up working anyway.

I hadn't actually seen the 100k comment before; thanks for that. Makes me feel better about having spent another 100k iMG since posting the original thread!

  • I'm trying to stay relatively stable at around 500k (where I started).  Juuuuusssttt in case...

  • I've done pretty much the same as you Lexx. It's the yard upgrades I'm concerned about. I'm now trying (!) to spend only the xp I earn and hang on to the 400k until the housing reset.... not sure if I'll manage it ;0)

  • i'm not saving any, primarily because i *want* a small, cozy house and can't wait for the reset because there is no way to "un-expand" my currently over expanded house.

i do want a large yard with lots of resources but i figure i can earn the iMG for that stuff as i go.

100k does seem like a good amount to leave in reserve, so i might shoot for that now that i've finally found and purchased Manic Miner III.

  • Man, you guys all talk about 100s of thousands of IMG as if it is drops of water in the ocean.  (Okay, I grant I'm still under level 20 but dang, where in the world you get these kinds of numbers?)  What is your source of IMG now?

  • 1.2m iMG spent upgrading skills, trying to get back up to 1m for house upgrades

  • @Miwa: We do stuff.  Pigs, 12 iMG per pet; sing to butterflies near end of day.  Play with your icons. Craft. Cook. Garden. Mine. Smelt.
In short, the usual. I play casually, and I pop 5-12k iMG/session.

  • Saving? What are saving? I've spent 2.6 million so far with no plans to stop.

  • I tried to keep 750K for housing, but I'm at 400K now.

@Miwa, I find the biggest iMG comes from huge donations to giants. For an extreme example, back when I was grinding levels I decided to grind up the Pot donation leaderboard too and I maxed my donations every day. Now it will take 10400 favour points to get my next Pot emblem. When we got XP instead of iMG, I think it was 2.4 XP for every favour point. If the iMG conversion factor is the same, that means I will get 24,960 iMG the next time I donate to Pot (3,467 meats or 200 expensive grilled cheese, using EHSP). I used to make and donate a lot of crystalmalizing chambers, too. Those gave XP for the mining, grinding, smelting, and crafting (I think) on top of donating.

  • I'm trying to save around 200k iMG for it, since I started with 300k. Accumulating iMG is actually not as slow as what I expected.

  • I'm not saving anything. As I earn iMG I spend it. Since I really love to harvest and especially now that my super harvest gets me 36 extra everytime I harvest I'm pretty much always happy to season beans or make awesome stew and donate to get more iMG.

  • Guys, stoot said "budget about 100k iMG for fully upgrading your current yard and home street and you should have some left over at the end."  read that a few times.  He said "current yard", that does not include the house, I guess.

(Nevermind, edited to add, I have since played with the inside of the house. Looks like it will not cost any img......Woot)

  • Buttercup, from what we've seen in testing... the interior part of the house is credits and resources (planks, girders, etc), not imagination. I can't imagine (heh) that we are going to need to spend our imagination on the inside of our house.

  • I started with 1M and my plan to save 500K is by the wayside.  I'm trying to hold onto at least 300K but the new cards are shiny and tempting!

  • Trying to save 1million but when did stoot say save 100k? Link please?
Posted 7 months ago by rach.the.emobear Subscriber! | Permalink
  • None. stoot said we'll need about 100k if I recall correctly, and that's easily... half a day's work? I'll just earn back what I'll need for housing, when I need it, and until then throw it all at upgrades, which will, themselves, make earning iMG easier. =P

  • rachaelah:

"Pascale: budget about 100k iMG for fully upgrading your current yard and home street and you should have some left over at the end." sayeth stoot here.

And, yea, Justin, that's why even if I go under 100k, I won't be too worried. I'd just like to be able to get a decent start on it when it happens, especially being uncertain of how much I'll be able to play between now and then (primarily if it happens anytime in the next RL two weeks, since I'll be getting ready for and going on an 8 day vacation with little time for Glitch).

  • I'd like to keep 300k.  It depends on what Upgrade cards I get between now and then.  I've spent 200k (not counting the CrazyQuoins I've gotten by visiting streets) so far on Upgrade cards.  I'm finally getting some that I can actually see do me some good so I may end up spending a lot more. :)

  • I have spent about 2.5 million iMG. The more I spent the faster I made it back. I have a brain capacity of 63, 26.7 Quoin multiplier and have all bar 2  (Transcendental Highway and Transcendental Radiation III) of the known static cards that TomC has listed here  http://glitchium.com/data/upgrades/

I am currently holding 175,000 iMG so well in excess of the budget suggested by Stoot.  I don't intend having a big house anyway, because of lag and the time it is currently taking me to get to the backyard from the front door. So even if housing reset comes tomorrow (unlikely as it's the weekend) I'm sure I will have enough to do everything I want

What else, other than spend it, can you do with iMG?

Like Lisa I cannot see the point of not spending it on the cards. By not spending it you are hamstringing yourself from not only earning more iMG but from  gathering resources and things to sell for currants.

  • I spent all my imagination....but I do find its easy to make imagination, I'm donating everything and mining and grinding and everything. I am actually enjoying this game again. I find the need for imagination is greater than the need for XP. It gives all the actions purpose.

  • I know Stoot sayeth 100K for housing and all but... I'm not rushing to buy every card this week. I'm spending iMG but then going out and replenishing iMG too. I agree with Lord Coyote, the need / usefulness of Imagination seems greater than XP.
I like that the cards and imagination let me customize my play, rather than just grinding out levels. Choices are good. It makes glitches more unique, rather than simply a level whatever.

  • I had over 2 million and I spent it all. :D

I'll do some donating and so on to get myself back to the recommended housing 100K. But in the meantime, I've added a lot of oomph which should make that easier!

  • I'm not saving anything. I am taking almost every upgrade I am offered. I want to maximize the fun of playing the game right now and every minute in the future. Besides, a lot of the upgrades will make it easier to earn more in the future.

That being said, I think the upgrades are the most outrageous examples of smoke and mirrors I have ever seen! OMG! What silliness!

For the majority of the upgrades, we have absolutely ZERO idea what we are paying for.

Here is an example. This is something I just paid 2,000 currants for:

Thirst Quencher Even more of a bonus to your chance of a special item when you water trees.

In other words, an unknown increase in an unknown quantity! Seriously! It's just crazy!

Some of the upgrades are actually quantifiable. Many more of them are either unknown increases in a known quantity or known increases in an unknown quantity (equally silly) but most are just pure goofiness like the Thirst Quencher.

So I say, just go with the flow and get into the spirit of things and have fun with it. I don't think this is any place for prudence or financial planning or any other kind of real worldish rational consideration.  If that is what I wanted I would call my broker, not play Glitch.

  • It just depends on who you are and how much you can play and how large you want your yard, as to whether planning is necessary.

I'm budgeting because I know I won't be able to play as much as I will need to get the iMG for the house things I want to do (at least, if it comes out in the next two weeks). So saving 50k-100k is best for me. I've not lacked for spending. I've spent 1.5 million on upgrades. And I spend whatever I have over the 100k, as though 100k = 0. I've just slowed down on cards that I care enough about to spend much iMG on right now. After these two weeks are over, I'll probably spend and earn all willynilly.

  • I've been using my testing /home to grow herbs, since my normal house has crops, so I know that I want to have medium or large plots for each in my next home.  I'll probably also want a few trees, jellisac and fireflies.  So I'm saving well over the 100K that stoot recommended.  The inside of my house will probably be completely taken over with machines, cabinets and SDBs, if I can afford whatever they end up costing.

My level was in the 30's before the iMGplementation, so I came in with a little under 500Ki.  I don't game for maximum efficiency, so I'm trying to balance in-going and out-going iMg at about 250Ki.  I'm picking and choosing among the upgrades based largely on getting more bang for my buck out of my favorite skills.  It doesn't bother me as was mentioned above that the upgrade cards don't always quantify everything.  I'd bet that the Devs may still be  tweaking the math for game balance anyway.  That a card will improve my return on a particular skill, give more iMG, or improve bonuses is enough information for me to decide if I want it.
