What's the lay of the land after reset?

Being relatively new around here, I'm wondering what things are like at reset.  Will there be mature trees around?  Will there be many piggies?  The Ur I know is peopled by many "wealthy" players who don't need to be constantly harvesting and nibbling and who are happy to help out those who have not yet accumulated many resources.  So what will it be like when we are all (relatively) penniless newbies in a world which (maybe) doesn't yet have all the trees, chickens and piggies that we see now.  I can foresee the possibility of fierce competition for scarce resources as we all struggle to get started again.  Will the (mostly) happy Glitch community be stressed by the rigours of reset?????  What was it like last time?

  • I've been through only one reset and the generosity and helpfulness of experienced players was unparalleled. I am now one of those who may be considered as "wealthy" but that means that I will have the knowledge and ability to be able to work to help not only myself but others without as much experience when the time comes. I know that there are many others that will do the same.
There will be enough mature resources to supply what we need at lower levels and will soon build to accommodate our requirements as we make our way up both the skill and level ladders. I will miss what I have built up in the time since our last reset but I'm sure that a little time and patience will be enough to get there again. :)

  • We will enter a world with mature trees and lots of opportunities for growth and sharing.  There will be squabbles but this is normal...growing pains...It will be one step at a time to learn skills, keep nourished and find real estate quick to eliminate the need for so many bags.

  • I have started from scratch and also been through two resets. Most people come across have always been helpful and generous. This was a worry from some before the last reset coming into beta. But in the end there was no big race to grab grab grab. As everything in game regenerates at some point. Nothing really runs out. :)

  • It depends on what they choose to reset, but my guess is that all locations will be reset to the way they looked when they were first designed, with small numbers of animals and trees (we'd actually see empty patches around!).  I don't remember any fights from the last reset... we just played as we always play.  It should be easier to acquire skills quickly this time, since the game won't ever close.  Also, life cycles won't pause, so we may notice trees and animals dying more quickly than they currently do.

  • There will be a lot of focused activity by those that want to get back their primo properties (30K/50K) homes quickly (which were only introduced since the last reset).  But that should subside after the first day or two.  I'm sure most of those folks will still be helpful, but will be focused on a mission to earn enough currants to purchase their favorite houses.  Since stoot said they were not opening the game/launching until a little bit after the reset (could be a day or a couple days), that should help folks get back to base levels of comfort in the game (through the basic skills, being settled into their homes, etc.) to be able to support an influx of newbies with lots of questions about the game, etc.

It will be interesting to deal with fewer animals, and the auctions will be initially affected since players don't have the extra currants to splurge on overpriced items. Also, I suspect that street projects will slow down a bit as people are getting their skill levels back up (and so won't be buying as much in the auctions).  However, since you can sell items to vendors, there will still be currant flow into the economy.  It will be most interesting to see how mining pans out, since so many will be using that for their initial primary income stream.  The one good thing is that interactions with trees/animals won't be affected since they are linked to our glitch and the game day (ie, we won't be competing with each other to harvest things).

  • I was around just after the last reset and found that there were always people around to help out. maybe 'more' was relative, but still. Plus people with knowledge who know how to do things will always be there to help I hope. And if they acquire faster because of it, well I know many who will help others out. Maybe some won't play that way, but I'd rather appreciate those who do than spend time resenting those who don't!

  • We haven't actually been told whether or not the game will be open during the period between reset and launch, which could be as short as a single day.  We also don't know whether or not the game will remain invite-only after the launch.  I'm sure the staff will tell us these things in advance of launch day, whenever that may be.

  • Thanks for the input, all.  I wasn't really expecting that we would find ourselves in a Lord of the Flies world, and the multiple question marks on the penultimate question was intended to convey a sort of "wink, wink" archness.  But with everyone starting out together at a zero baseline (and I imagine there are a lot more of us than at the last reset), it will be interesting to see how the interactions and the redevelopment of the world economy function.  I'm looking forward to it!
