Email notifications that are totally awesome?!

Whoa. Just saw the email notifications about people adding you as a friend.

Now usually I think these are terrible, right? I immediately click NO and STOP THAT and make a face at my computer.

But these? These were awesome! I got three email, each with a different message.

Whichever Tiny Speckians wrote these, I would like to send you diamonds every day in the mail and two tickets to that thing that you love.

Because that is how great these are.

  • Frankly, I think these need to be opt-in, not opt-out.  (I.e. the default should be to not get the emails.) I get a lot of friend requests.  I would be thrilled to get in-game mail about this stuff, but not regular email.

BTW, you can adjust settings at  http://beta.glitch.com/account/prefs/

  • Honestly, all the text both in the game and on the site, in addition to any text I've gotten in emails received regarding Glitch.. has all been completely comical, clever, and/or amazing. Keep it up, Tiny Speck! <3

  • Sephora Cullen has added you as a contact on Glitch.

Sephora Cullen? I hear you ask: Who is this Sephora Cullen?!? What do they want from me? Are they real? Is this a trick? What's going on? Is this Sephora Cullen a robot? Some kind of test? WHY ME?!?

To which I say: woah there, pickle! Sephora Cullen probably just added you so that they could contact you while playing the game. To send mail, or challenge you for races. See? It's all cool, and not weird or freaky at all! (Disclaimer: unless it is)

roflmao!!!!!!!!!! "Whoa there, pickle!"  So far I have 5, they are all different. Please give this writer a raise!!! Awesome.

  • I don't get these - hmmm maybe I should start ticking boxes for emails :)

  • My immediate reaction when I saw the subject line of the emails was that I wanted to go to the site to see if I could turn the notifications off. Then I read them and changed my mind. It brightened my morning :).

  • I have all the preferences ticked but I never get an email from Tiny Speck about anything, other than the two I got when I first joined.

  • If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then by learning Mining II
like you just did, and thereby taking on a whole lot of knowledge at
once, you have automatically become one of the most dangerous people on
    the planet.

As we speak, crack teams of ninjas are meeting to decide how best to
take you on, a super-computer has been programmed to try and discover
your weakness (should you have one) and governments everywhere are
quaking in their boots for fear of doing anything that might anger you.
    Enjoy the moment.

Here's what you just learned, Captain Dangerous:

Mining II doubles your chance of receiving a special gem when mining,
reduces the time it takes to mine AND reduces the wear on your pick each
time you get some ore. Sweet.

  • thanks emdot, no idea why its working now, but I'm happy :)

emdot (emdot) has added you as a contact on Glitch. This will probably
be because they want to be able to contact you when they're playing the
    game.

Don't worry, it's not weird. You're not contracted to be pals for life.
It doesn't mean you have to marry them, or even spend 7 minutes in a
locked storage cabinet with them (though of course you can if you want.
Who am I to tell you what to do? I'm not the boss of you. Do whatever
    you like).
It's just nice to have people to play with sometimes.

  • What? You don't have to marry me? *off to report bug and stomp my feet.*

  • LOL -  top marks to whoever writes these, I look forward to reading many more.

  • Murri (Murri Blacksword) has added you as a contact on Glitch. Probably
so they can contact you in the game.

Why? Who knows. But it might well be the beginning of a beautiful
friendship. Years from now, sitting, watching the suns setting behind
Jethimadh Tower, you might look back on this moment and say "Murri? Do
you remember that time you added me as a contact? And all the crazy
adventures we've had since then?" And Murri will smile, and nod.

"Good times, LitaPie" Murri will say. "Good times."

Hands down, most awesome notification email I have ever read. Also, note it says "multiple suns." Now I wanna see an image of Ur in a galactic setting.

  • For anyone who never got them before yesterday: we just added them yesterday, so … you wouldn't have ever got them before!

  • Oh my gosh. If I didn't love Tiny Speck enough before, I for sure do now....Bahahaha....

"spacks (Dave S.) has added you as a contact on Glitch.

spacks? I hear you ask: Who is this spacks?!? What do they want from me?
Are they real? Is this a trick? What's going on? Is this spacks a robot?
Some kind of test? WHY ME?!?

To which I say: woah there, pickle! spacks probably just added you so
that they could contact you while playing the game. To send mail, or
    challenge you for races.
See? It's all cool, and not weird or freaky at all! (Disclaimer: unless
    it is)"

Can I sign up to just get random emails from Tiny Speck? Just witty morsels of happiness that appear  randomly to brighten my day?

  • I read a few of the ones I got yesterday and today and...I haven't seen a repeat yet. I think there must be 5 or six different ones they cycle through, they're amazing.

"Roger Wilco has added you as a contact on Glitch. They probably did this
so that they could contact you in the game.

They may have added you so they could invite you to parties. Or
challenge you to races. Or ask you important questions about that thing
they've heard you're an expert in.

Or maybe, just maybe they added you so that they could send you diamonds
every day in the mail. And two tickets to that thing you love. They
probably didn't, of course, but anything is possible. It is Glitch,
    after all.

HOWEVER upon actually opening them and reading them, well I must give apologies for my rash thinking.. The emails are hilarious... and I love that each one is different... I'm all for agreeing that the creative writer(s) behind these email's be given a raise...

  • For people who want to read more:

Niblog (Wil Toro) has added you as a contact on Glitch. Probably so they
can contact you in the game.

Why? Who knows. But it might well be the beginning of a beautiful
friendship. Years from now, sitting, watching the suns setting behind
Jethimadh Tower, you might look back on this moment and say "Niblog? Do
you remember that time you added me as a contact? And all the crazy
adventures we've had since then?" And Niblog will smile, and nod.

"Good times, Cupcake" Niblog will say. "Good times."

Let the good times roll by signing in to the game to say hi now.

Violet Lapin has added you as a contact on Glitch. This is probably
because they want to be able to contact you while you're playing the
    game.

You may know Violet Lapin, you may not. Perhaps you've helped them out
on a quest, perhaps they just wandered past and admired the cut of your
    jib. How should I know?
However, one thing I do know: It's not weird, just friendly.

Sign in to the game to say hi. Or don't, whatever... no skin off my
nose. Or it wouldn't be if I had a nose, which I don't (being software).

daniel5457 (...) has added you as a contact on Glitch. They probably did
    this so
they can contact you when they are playing the game.

Or maybe they did it so they can beat you at the game and be victorious.
I am a computer and anyway, there is really no way I could tell even if
    I had achieved self-consciousness.
Either way, it's not creepy at all - it's fun. So ... enjoy!

Sign in to the game to say hi.

Ah, knowledge. They say that knowledge is power, and now that you know
Gardening III, you are therefore more powerful. Not as powerful as, say,
a rhinoceros beetle, which can lift about 850 times its body weight.

Still, you should keep learning new skills, because then the game is
    more fun!

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. And the journey
to becoming an indisputably commensurate polymath begins with a single
skill (and a dictionary). Now that you have learned Soil Appreciation V,
you're one step closer to complete world domination, or at least to
    knowing more STUFF.

Go forth, and learn more - as well as making the game more fun, each new
skill is a brick on the road to ultimate awesomeness.
