Too many chickens, butterflies & pigs

I tired of these.  They get in my way when I'm trying to do other things, and the great abundance of them means that I attribute very little value to milk, cheese, meat, grain.

In general:

Only put chickens in dry, grassy places.
Only put butterflies in dense, rainforesty type places.
Only put pigs in meadow-type places.
Don't put chickens underground.
Don't put butterflies in caves.

There are some rare fauna (Fireflies, Crabs, etc. come to mind) but I think that the standards are way, way too bountiful.

Reducing supply will also motivate players to talk to each other more.

  • +1 to this. Having specific critters for each location adds more distinction to that area. Though I do see some pros and cons in this:

Pros: Increased interaction between players in areas where animals are abundant and players in areas where animals are scarce.
Cons: Players who are pursuing activities related to a certain animal (eg, butterfly milking) may rarely (if not) leave the area populated by that animal.

  • Seriously?  Critter population has absolutely no effect or influence on how much i interact with other players.   It's easy enough to just ignore them if they're not relevant to one's momentary pursuit.

  • I agree completely, there are way too many and I must admit that I'm not convinced the new lifespan fix will solve the problem.  It drives me crazy to accidentally click to sing to a butterfly when I'm trying to harvest a barnacle or whatever.

I hope that eventually there is a wider variety of animals available, which I think might make it less annoying to have so many in one street.  I don't think it will have anything to do with communication between players, though, unless you count complaining about all the butterflies in Local.  :D

  • There is always the Enter key that you can use to choose whatever you want to interact with instead of clicking.

  • The elements of 'make' outweigh the elements of 'decay.' I talked about this in my idea list as well. When I originally talked about it, I didn't even know that things died over time. I didn't know about tree poison either. That's neither here nor there, though, because they still greatly outweigh. I can only imagine problems arising when the player count increases.

I also am curious what a zone with maxed-out animals accross all fronts would do to some player's latency. Possible griefer opportunities arise. I'd like to see bug spray and a butchering skill.

  • I don't quite understand how reducing animal populations will make me more talkative to other players. If I can't find anything in the street I'm in, I'm far more likely to leave it (making chatting even LESS likely).

High animal populations are swell when using a nice powder of fecundity, which causes a percentage of all the animals on a street to spontaneously drop meat/ milk/ grain.

At the early stages of this game, Glitch does not really seem to have much of a need for socialization. In fact, most of the time I'm running from here to there and don't have a reason to talk to anyone.

What's more, the chat functionality is very clunky. Most of the stuff in local flies by every time I squeeze or pet something, and global is just a blur if too many people are on. The game itself, at low levels, does not lend itself to socialization, and the chat options basically interfere with your in-game action.

I'd love to be able to chat more and do stuff with people, but the game simply doesn't seem to lend itself to that. Unfortunately, I think this is going to prove to be a restriction as a result of going with Flash to develop the game.

  • I do not feel that there is too many animals, sometimes I actually need to milk lots of butterflies or nibble lots of pigs - and it would be pretty difficult with animals tied to specific locations only.

Sometimes I go to areas with lots of butterflies just to sing to them.:)

  • I'm really really sick of seing animals in illmenskie mines. There is really no need of them and they only get in the way. You go in mines to mine, not to switch targets constantly on some critter. :)

I need a basooka to banish all animals from there. Can we have animals can not live in there please, or at least die after some period or a way to move them from there as we can with piggies.
