Working with Flash 11,0,1,60 beta

I haven't a clue how I wound up installing that under my Linux environment, but apparently I did. It worked VERY well but for one problem I found, and an additional one found by @chicgeek. We both found that the speech balloons text ran vertically, one letter per line, (except for stat items), but the width of the balloon was as expected. This the balloons to extend on occasion to the bottom of, or even past the bottom of the play window. If user response is expected in the latter case, that button would no be rendered and the player's avatar would be frozen unless they refreshed the screen, all other game function was available except for avatar motion or ability to interact with other on-screen objects. I only received part of the details from @chicgeek and she described it as something to do with the food menus. Especially when the back button was used. I have not yet had the chance to replicate this. Since this version of Flash does not allow the debugger to run I'll try to run full motion capture on the screens. I'll see if @chicgeek can do the same. I know there is no official plans to support this player version this early on, but it looks like it is getting close to final release and support for it might be forced on Tiny Speck regardless.

  • Thanks for the report Fokian. We are only able to focus on unchanging, released versions of Flash, as you know, and nearer to when Flash 11 comes out we will be sure to get ready for it. There's a lot to do before then!

  • That's fine, @Jono. i knew that would be your circumstances. I'm still dealing with burnout from mi
I know you probably have had the chance to look at them already, but in case you haven't here are the AIR 3/Flash 11 beta1 release notes
I think the problems might be with the Asynchronous Bitmap Decoding feature. I would have thought that to be running under programmer control only but the visual artifacts I have been seeing.
I forgot to mention in my previous posting that there are visual artifacts around several screen items (the 'rock' and the animals). They don't appear consistently but when they do, they appear around the bottom and right sided of the objects in a thin band.
I'll see if I can get @chicgeek to contribute to this thread and I'll see if I cad do a motion capture of my play session since there is no debugger.

  • Crap. I have 2 1/2 hours of a single static image of what, I don't know. I'll try again later. I've never used this recorder before.

  • I'm working with Adobe on the rendering issues you described above. We've implemented patches in the meantime.

  • \o/

The speech bubble rendering is no longer an issue.  Though has something changed in the past ten minutes? I was playing happily and can't load a glitch street without crashing Flash. I haven't updated tonight, and restarting browser (Chrome), restarting my computer, and trying another browser seems to reproduce the same.  I know it's unlikely considering it's Monday evening at 9:30..

  • Also, I tried to downgrade to Flash 10 but there's no version for 64 bit systems.  Arg.

I'll try to shoehorn in that version tomorrow.
