Point to this game?

I do not mean to be mean, and rush into conclusions, but I played Glitch for about 30 minutes and....didn't really find much to do. Not much at all except squeeze a chicken and pet a tree. Someone want to help me and tell me what the point of this game is? It's obviously an alright game if it was shown on a gaming show called X-Play...thanks!

  • Ooof.
    Where to start.
Perhaps the best way to get a sense of what is to come is to take a look at the encyclopedia. Look at items and skill and achievements.
Also take a look at groups and see if any of the names of groups intrigue you.
Or, potentially, google some reviews of the game.

  • My advice would be to just keep playing.  Make sure you are learning a skill from the skill tree.  When you finish learning a skill you will get a quest.

Check out the mini games, too.

This is a pretty open-ended game, and it's really what you make of it.

If you are looking for major structure and instruction...you won't really find it here.

  • You make your own fun, whatever that is to you. Learn all skills, make 5,000,000 currants, get all badges, etc. You decide what the point of the game is.

  • So basically, shape the world how you see fit?

  • Yep Colton, that's about it exactly. Just keep in mind, treat others as you'd like to be treated.

  • Alright. I guess...well....here I go! :) I'm going to start mining stuff. Is cursing bad in this game? Frowned upon?

Also, is this mainly just a game of making friends and hanging out? Doin' random things?

  • Just keep playing for a bit, read a bit about it, do some quests.  There isn't really a point.  It's fun, it's rewarding, it's social, it's funny, it has a terrific team of devs and a great community.  I set mini-goals for myself all the time - e.g. make enough money to buy a tree house, learn to keep pigs, increase cooking skills and gardening skills so I could keep myself in energy without buying off the Auction site, get a bigger house, get emblem from each Giant....

You can see how it goes, and why I am now a subscriber.

  • Here are the Community Guidelines, if you have questions about the "rules" of behavior in the game.
This game is intended for adults, not children.  I would just say use common sense when it comes to swearing and stuff like that.

  • Hanging out, making friends, creating communities, playing in its purest form.

As to cursing, take a look at the Community Guidelines linked to at the top of the forum page. While this game is geared towards a more adult audience, excessive language is not cool. (eta: Poppy beat me to it)

  • The point of this game? Well, it's to KILL, of course.

    Kill what?

Time! Kill time. Lots of it! >:)

  • I think of it as being a bit like Animal Crossing, but without all the obnoxious barriers to social play (for example, you have to exchange friend codes and be online at the same time to play with friends in Animal Crossing).

  • Click on the magic rock (top centre of screen) to see what quests you currently have outstanding. Completing the quests is fun and will give you a good idea of the various aspects of the game.

Another good idea is to work towards building up sufficient currents (the in-game currency) to buy an in-game house.

You might also want to investigate learning the various skills. The magic rock learns skills for you, one at a time, regardless of whether you're logged in or not, but you have to tell it which skill to learn.

  • You are so right. I have killed so much time in last month. If just my girlfriend knew what I do all the time instead of studying ;o)

  • There are approximately 350 achievement badges you can earn.  How far along are you on those?

  • If you have patience, then just roam around and explore. Maybe chat with other glitch you see in the game space, ask questions and don't be afraid to try things out.

If you want a twitter type answer to what Glitch is, well I don't think anyone has figured that out yet.
