Some people are ridiculous

The other day I was mining at Neva Neva. And I was leaving in 10 minutes and dindt have time to wait for everyone to get to a rock an start mining. So I was mining alone, people get so ANGRY if you don't want to wait for everyone. Anyone agree with me here?

  • I have both keys too, Casombra. If you (or anyone who needs the street location),  sees me in game and still needs to go there, just give me a call.

As for the thread... please nobody suggest closing AB or NN! I want them behind locked doors so that I can mine in peace elsewhere :)

  • @OP: You join a room, piss off the others with your actions and wonder why they get angry? The worst thing about that drama is this pointless thread though.

  • 1.  "Join a room" does not mean entering a room and being subject to the rules that already-there players have pretended they can establish.

    2.  "Pissing off others with your action" is only an issue if said actions are over-the-top rude or against the rules of the game.  Otherwise they can wee away, to be blunt.  It's their problem.

I agree that these threads are pointless.  But so long as there are people out in the game who feel it is their prerogative to police the areas they are in and enforce the 'rules' that they arbitrarily have decided should be the social convention for the game, threads like this will continue to fester on.

I'm so glad that I haven't caught 'shiney fever' and become one of the pickaxe bots in 'the collective.'  It's almost like the historic gold rushes, what it does to peoples' priorities.

  • As a new player, I used to be very nervous in the mines because there seemed to be unwritten rules about with whom, how, and what to mine. Now that I'm more experienced, I treat the rocks exactly like what they are: open resources for everybody. I'll mine rocks as I need them, regardless of circumstances. The only 'rule' I still follow is that I always finish the rock so that it may respawn. It's a very liberating mining philosophy.

  • LOL @ RULES being placed on the floors.  i take them and donate them.

  • I just don't understand why people get so uptight about how others mine in the locked areas. I can see calling out designated rocks as they appear (P4, B1, etc.) but beyond that? No. People are going to mine however they mine, and getting upset about it is a waste of time, imo. This AB vs NN stuff is also pretty uncalled for and divisive. Can't we all just get along?

  • This whole thing makes me want to go into NN and *not* play by the "rules".

  • Ok thanks to a lovely person today I logged on and found 2 keys in my mailbox! Thanks very much! I was able to get my achievements done for exploration and very grateful!

Neva Neva was fine and people were just milling about just like any part of any mining area. AB... just wow. I zone into AB and what is right at the door? Two notes laying out the rules of that area. RULES! I was rather shocked and a bit put out to be honest! That takes some tenacity to tell players how THEY have the damn right to make rules in any area other than their houses! The only one that has a right to make ANY rules in this game is Tiny Speck. I cannot believe the gall of some players here that think they are more important than any other player in this game. After seeing those notes I nearly let the evil me come out and decide to pick up notes to donate and then start mining on rocks other than what the Borg were mining... but I was a good girl and just teleported out to Neva Neva.

  • @Cas, totally agree about Ajaya! I only went in to get my completist badge but damn if those notes didn't make me want to start mining all willy-nilly (I would have, but there was nothing to mine at that point).

@Wye if I ever go back, I'm going to do that too, I think.

For the record, I'll share with everyone what these "rules" are:

    1. A key explaining the location codes: TL (Top Left), P1 - 6 (Platforms) and B1 - 6 (Bottom)
These locations are called when nodes spawn. It allows everyone to know where to go so everyone can mine together and benefit from co-op bonuses. There is also an image link that notates the locations for better understanding.

    2. If you're planning to die before/after new day, die on the door platform so gravestones don't interfere with mining nodes. It's the courteous thing to do.

    3. If you find you'll be afk an extended period of time, consider moving to the corners. Again, as a courtesy to keep the 'playing field' clear.

That's it.   It's co-operative mining. These simple guidelines help new people acclimate quickly and get right into the fun of mining, picnics on TL, and earning the 111,111 Leapist Badge.

How is this any different from telling people to wait, wait, wait, please wait? Oh, It's not.

  • That might be all the 'rules' but people posting in this forum have testified to a lot of additional shrieking that goes on when they simply try to mine a rock or two.  Clearly there are a whole ton of unwritten 'rules' being tossed around.  Some people have little interest in 'co-operative mining.'  Or they want to choose who they co-operate with and it isn't the person shrieking at them.

THIS^  Exactly.  The moment someone wants to be the Game Police i want to thumb my nose at them.

  • The "rules" Groovy Bear cites are designed to help new people get the most bonuses from cooperative mining, identify the code regulars use to identify spawn spots, and suggest that they might consider not dying or going AFK in areas that might interfere with other players' gameplay.

If you are offended by being let in on how to get better bonuses, what the rock spawn area codes mean, or being asked not to block spawn sites for sparkly rocks, perhaps you are right to decide to mine elsewhere. And that is OK.

Nobody is offended by the information, just the attitude of people when you choose to mine your own way.

I think that is the difference.  I mean if I had decided to stick around, you will abide by the written and/or unwritten rules. Of course I did not stick around to find out what would happen if you broke the "rules" but I have a feeling it would not have been pleasant.
Posted 13 months ago by Casombra Amberrose Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Please stick around in AB a bit before you tell others that there are 'unwritten' rules or something. At least for Ajaya, that's just not true.
Posted 13 months ago by Sare Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i used to mine ajaya back in the day.

i was there the day before everything got all, uh, what i am politely calling organized and i was there the day after.

    i don't go there anymore.

the last time i went there was a LOT of talk about where to stand and how to mine and when to mine and how stupid everyone else was and how much nicer people are in ajaya than everywhere else and i said i thought it was just as cutthroat as a street project and twice as whiny and i haven't been back since.

i was in neva right about when it opened and about ten minutes before it got organized as well.

i don't think i have to stick around any longer before i talk about the rules, written and unwritten. i remember (fondly) the ajaya hop and before that the days when you mined on your own as you pleased without having to worry about the other two people in the room.

i am actually in favor of mining carrying on in those rooms as it does now. i would just like to see one little change: the door locks from the inside so you need a special and hard to find key to get OUT.

that ought to fix things up just about right.

  • Wow, threads like these are why I maxed Animal Husbandry first. For my part, there's enough sparkly above ground in Bortola to keep me in elements for EHSP, and nobody cares whether you mine it alone or wait on the entire neighborhood to join you.

Seriously, though: the game has minimal competitive elements, and there's no real scarcity of any resource (maybe the keys to AB and NN, but even for those, it's only a day of spice harvesting or, heck, even chicken-squeezing to raise enough currants to buy them at auction). Can somebody explain to me why this is even an issue?  That's a sincere question, not snark: it's obvious that people feel strongly about the sparkly, and I'm honestly baffled, here.
