Infinitely Expanding Houses - Alt Houses & Key Solution

Why not (in housing expansion) allow for an infinitely expanding house? Currently it's said you'll be able to expand your house, but no mention was made of making it infinite. If you could make it go up with 'floors' forever, then the choices are limitless! This would eliminate almost all needs for alts I can think of (housing wise) minus using an alt to legit cheat by doing something with an alt that a main character can't do, like make crystals for instance.

  • Well, I'm not sure how big their servers are, or how much data they can handle, but I would say that would be the only restriction on "infinite".  Though I am sure they can probably afford to upgrade their servers if need be pretty soon.  I'm not sure how many people play or how many have got the bigger subs (I got the yearly sub), but they should have a little bit of money for expansion.

  • Serra, as someone who works in tech, keeping the data of a house like we use is very easy to do, so it should be no biggie

    Erm

Please be careful with alts. It's one thing to use them to experience the game differently (say, to pursue a skill path you don't necessarily want to invest in with your primary), but it's not ok to use alts to create / provide resources to your primary.

It's not clear whether you meant that in your post, but please be careful. I don't want to see anyone get in trouble over a misunderstanding.

  • It wouldn't eliminate my need for an alt as I didn't make mine for any other reason but to enjoy the extra game play.

Seriously. I like making crystals with my alt, but I don't give them to my other character or anything of the sort. Having a separate character to tool around Ur with simply doubles my fun. I made an alt before we could keyshare, simply because I wanted to experience the world differently.

  • Yup, and that's a completely legitimate reason to have an alt.

  • So back on topic, if people are making alts for extra plots / herb plots, and if an infinitely expanding house could have as many floors with as many plots as you wanted, that would solve the problem right? Customizable houses still could have only like 50 plots, and people might want 100 so still create / have an alt. Hence this solution.

  • I disagree.. If you could create a hundred story house, you'd essentially be building your own mini island-in-a-house, which, while interesting, would threaten the lives of all living things on public streets and lessen social interaction. Though I definitely see TS one day allowing us to make our private islands/territory, the amount of space should definitely be limited, whatever form of extra space we're given. It might lessen alts if only to make providing your own energy source even cheaper/easier than it is now, allowing for extended gameplay.

Besides, the market would crash. :/

  • Sorry ✦ SHI∇IΔΠ ✦, I think I misunderstood your initial post. Since alts for personal gain are pretty explicitly against the rules, it's puzzling that there would have to be a solution to alleviate a "need" for them.

    Maybe I'm still not understanding.

  • Xev: because there is absolutely no way to actually police them, so they will always occur :-(

  • It's actually pretty easy to detect cheating in a game like Glitch. Why do you think it's impossible?

  • I get your point, thought of this too, gmta.
