Server down?

I haven't been able to log in since about 1200 PDT.  Investigation reveals that a server called gs6.us-east.ec2.tinyspeck.com is resetting the connection, which results in a Security Socket Error #2048.  Tweaking my local network settings so that gs6 resolves instead to gs7 makes it clear that there is a gs7, but that there are parameters that specify gs6, which confuses gs7.  Maybe gs6 is having load issues?  Regardless, I haven't been able to get in for close to 12 hours, I from various forum posts I suspect I'm not alone.

  • Thanks Yarrow, and sorry for the trouble! We're looking into this issue. We have logs of every time this has happened to a player, so we're aware of the scope of the problem and we're trying to fix it.

While we work on it, yeah, you can't swap out game servers by fiddling with your DNS. Yarrow is on gs6, not gs7 :)

One known problem we just fixed was a service outage on 843, where Flash is looking for a policy file. Flash should also check for the policy file on 443 as a fallback when 843 fails, and in the vast majority of cases that's working fine. So I'm not sure if having 843 work properly will have any effect on your particular problem, but let us now!

  • From this end it looks like: yes, 843 is open, but is responding with an empty response, and that *now* we fall back to 443, which is also empty.

For the record (and maybe an internal ticket :) the loader doesn't fallback if 843 is closed - it does seem to if the response is empty.

And if both responses are empty, still can't connect.  I'm tempted to set up a local proxy that returns a crossdomain.xml and forwards everything else - but I have paid work I should be doing :)

Is it possible to migrate characters between servers, maybe?  I'm a little bummed to have missed Zilloween.

  • For the record, I'm now able to get in.  Thanks for the fix :)

  • I'm still unable to get in in either Chrome or Firefox. Same error as Yarrow described.

According to the HTML, I have login_host: 'gs6.us-east.ec2.tinyspeck.com:443' also.

  • Yarrow, we now try port 1443 if 443 doesn't work. That may have been it.

  • That self-test is slick.  Kudos to the person who built it.
