yet more housing questions...

I didn't see these questions addressed in that other thread, but please forgive me if I just missed it all somehow.
a.I know that our new houses will not be in specific neighborhoods as our current ones are, but will they still be in specific parts of Ur (Bortola, Alakol, Kalavana, etc.)?
b.If so, will the music of that location play in our house?
c. And, will our new house automatically be in the same part of Ur as our current house?

  • From what stoot has said in various threads, the new houses will not be tied to any actual region. The art style may be reminiscent of a certain area of Ur, but it won't be officially in Bortola, or in Alakol etc.

  • Hmmm... so what does that mean for the music, I wonder?

  • The music may possibly be related to the region art style of the housing even though there's no specific region name attached.

  • I want to play with the music turned up while I'm in my house for a change!

  • Maybe... we'll get to choose the music as we design our houses? *fingers crossed*

  • Didn't he say something about jukeboxes? And about musicboxes suddenly being useful?

  • When I decide to start worrying, I will!

Until then, I'm going to wonder about how to get awesome music in my glitch house!

  • I've asked about the music in our houses a couple of times, but I've never seen an answer. Maybe that will be a necessary consequence of having houses that are no longer connected to a particular region, but I would be very sad to lose the bog music in my house. A jukebox that contains only the musicbox choices is not an adequate substitute, IMHO.

  • Yet, Stoot said you could give your friends 'directions' to your house and how to get there. I was thinking, maybe this is a tiny little section of Ur, in which you can step to. However, the actual owner can just zap themselves into their brain, where the house is.

  • I want the Celtic music of Salatu...

  • It sounds like it might be almost exactly like Faunasphere.  Every player has their own private 'location' which can be linked to other players' private locations.  And the 'outside world' is reached through a portal within these private spaces.  Like in Faunasphere, the 'private' locations don't have anything that ties them to a specific place in the public space.

  • Yeah it sounds like Faunasphere and a bit like Pokémon Dream World's friend system too.

  • Think of housing existing in a separate dimension from the public streets. So you don't travel to a house, its more you shift planes of existence.

  • That's a good way to think about it Sturminator :) Based on all the changes they've outlines and things Stoot has said, our new houses will be within our imaginations. Since imagining things and having them be REAL is a big part of the game, it makes sense that our glitchen can imagine their own houses. Hence the whole imagination as a secondary sort of currency thing that's going to happen.

With all that in mind houses won't be tied to any place in Ur because they're not in Ur! They're in your head, which just happens to be an actual place you can go ;) And then there's the whole houses are connected to each other with signposts that have the names of friends you choose on them thing.

  • I remember something about someone saying something about a Jukebox that we can play our music blocks in. That is what I thought. I may be wrong, though.

  • From the Q&A transcript (no further enlightenment, but this is the bit you're all remembering having read somewhere):

eelah: Will we be able to have music in our new homes
A: We don't have specific plans yet, but the music blocks were always supposed to go into a jukebox, so it will like [stoot cut off here]
Faereluth: Will the position of your home in game now have any influence on what your new home will start with?
    A: No.
Splendora: I love the idea of extensible, customizable housing. But I also love being associated with a region of Ur, not only because it appeals to my imagination, but also because it provides a conversational opener.  So will there be a way for me to have both?
    A: Nope.

  • Sooo, lots of related information, but we still don't know if we'll have background music (not musicblocks) playing in our new houses or which music it might be.
Posted 10 months ago by Dr.Maud, Obviously Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Exactly.

  • However!! Someone suggested a Radio or something which would allow us to switch the music, and Danny commented that he liked the idea... and since we'll be off official regions, we may possibly get that.

  • @DrMaudGonne --
Funny how things are so different for each of us: I want anything BUT the Celtic music of Salatu (where I live now, and where I have to turn off the sound while in my house).
