Idea: Lockable boxes for games and quests

OK...
So I have been thinking about various ways to make it easier to allow Glitches to make games and quests for other Glitchen. It seems like two popular ways are leaving notes around with clues, instructions etc, or posting in the forums. But some people don't read the forums, threads get lost etc. And notes gets moved, taken, etc.

So my idea was this.
Boxes!

Pretty cool huh?

But seriously... Boxes (or some container type object) that can be locked and unlocked.
The boxes could be unlocked by saying the right words, or the right number sequence, or sequence of colors, or maybe the correct roll of the dice. Once open, the box could contain either a prize, or instructions on how to find and what to do with the next box, or possibly require a certain item(s) to be dropped in the box to get the next set of instructions.
They would also need to be unmovable once placed so games could be planned and mapped out.
In order to have the world of Ur not littered with said containers, they could have a time limit and disappear from the world after a X amount of game days. I would also think if they have a prize or something at the end of the quest, that they would disappear after all the prizes have been given out.
In addition, it would be cool if the boxes could be somewhat disguised so the fit into the surrounding area more and become almost part of the background.

It's not a ground breaking idea, but it could lead to some fun quests and puzzles.

What say you? Horrible? Awesome? Unimplementable?

  • I think that could have some cool uses.  Are you thinking it would be used in a predetermined way, or that they are more like usable lock boxes for notes for scavenger hunts and the like?  In other words, it sounds like you are thinking they could be set up as a game where the player tries to open the box with a code or puzzle set by the owner, and the box could contain a prize or a note describing the location of another box or item.  Is that what you're thinking?  Are there other uses for the box?

  • It sounds like it could be driven off the charades potion mechanic.

  • wait, if anyone can get the "key", then it is just like they weren't locked in the  first place and any one wanting to troll could run away with part of the "quest"...or am I missing something?
A lockable note pole could be good, where you don't need to unlock it to participate in the quest and the initiator of the quest could unlock and remove it after all was finished...

  • What I meant by the charades potion mechanic was that someone would have to guess the "key" text and say it in local.
