Animal Kinship Pays off Quickly

After some data crunching, it’s interesting to see that certain skill-set planning can lead to advantages in the game more so than other skill branches. Of course, it depends on your playing style (mining is also very rewarding), but whilst writing up the Animal Kinship Pays off Quickly Glitch Strategy blog post (with the help of the info sent in by Ted), I found it interesting to see how, even after much nerfing of Animal meat rewards (I think I remember it being something like 16 meat per nibble at one point in early Beta), animals can be a great source of energy, mood and currants at the higher skills of Animal Kinship.

I'll let you find out why it's rewarding over on the blog post, but if you have any other tips on how to get the most of animals (or other skill related rewards), please post or comment!

  • Small wrinkle in the post. :P

A super harvest from a pig at AK7 actually rewards 20 meat most of the time. (VERY RARELY one can get a super big super harvest. Once, in my entire glitchy career, I got 75 meat out of a super harvest.)

  • I love AK as a method to making money. IMO it's far superior to mining as a means of making money, it's nowhere near as time consuming. I make all the cash I have from harvesting/nibbling/milking as I'm running around Ur doing other things and I use Glitch Autosell to sell all that crap that I'm not going to use (eggs, bubbles, meat, milk, etc). I probably make less on auctions than I would using the Tool Vendor, but this way it's an incredibly low-effort, low-hassle way to make money. I rarely have less than 50k in my account (I spent it all periodically on gems and shrine powder).

  • Adding that chickens also give out gamewheel tickets and drinks and, big hint with all animals, a gurly drink makes it all energy-free aside from singing to butterflies. I get lazy about it while out and about, but I always sip a drink before nibbling my home pigs.

  • the giants seem to love all the new milk and meat I can collect.

  • At a certain point in AK you can squeeze a chicken and nibble a pig with no progress bar.  This means that I can chase a chicken down the street slamming on the enter key and when she's fully squeezed I have 25 grain and perhaps a drop.   Chickens are EVERYWHERE and I can get a bushel of grain in almost no time at all.   Nibbling pigs can be done by enter-N-enter-N and bing, you're swimming in meat.

  • I get 50-60 grain per chicken when I spam-squeeze. Then I turn em into bundles and sell em off for 250g each. Woo!

  • Woah, I have AK7 and I've been getting 4 meat per nibble and 10 grain per squeeze. Do I have a bug or is there some other factor working against me?

  • You can squeeze a chicken more than once.

  • Loved the AK post on the Glitch Strategy blog, Hburger!  And having avoided AK through several resets, I finally got smart in the last beta run before launch, so glad I did!

  • You can spam squeeze a single chicken 5 or 6 times getting 10-20 grain per squeeze. You get 20 if you get a super rainbow squeeze. It's pretty fun.

  • Here's a less obvious tip: Don't donate with grain. Loose grain sells for 1 currant each to most (if not all) vendors in the game, so if you're looking to donate it, you can instead dump the grain on the local street spirits as you get it, and then spend the currants on something in the auctions to donate with instead, as most items on the auction house are priced below their base currant value, unlike the price you're getting on your grain. (e.g. You can sell 500 unbundled grain to a random street spirit for 500 currants, then spend those 500 currants on, perhaps, planks listed at 4 currants each, getting 125 planks with a total base currant value of 625 - a 25% donation value increase. Or sell 600 grain and get 100 milk at 6 currants each, which would be a base currant value of 800 - a 33% increase here. There's plenty of options on what to buy.)

  • I agree, that's why I don't regret not getting mining sooner :D

  • I agree too. That's why I don't regret not getting mining IV at all!

Yesterday I took 4 full 16 slot bags of meat to the tool vendor... cha-ching!

Sadly all the cubimals I subsequently bought were duplicates - bah :(

  • Milk and meat are my primary donations. I rarely have insufficient to do my 3x skill speed donations, and if I do, there's always the 100+ musicboxes I have in a pile by the door...

  • And of course, Gurly Drink rewards the no-energy-for-animal-interactions buff! Can you buy Gurly Drinks from Helga anymore?
Posted 13 months ago by Hburger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Nope, but they aren't hard to make. I usually get one a night from the ancestral lands.

  • I love AK7.

I spam squeeze the chickens in the towers in Louise Pasture. Get a ton of music blocks, and then go and sell about 2K grains for 2K at the vendor outside the apartments for some easy revenue with about 1K grains left over.

  • My basic game strategy, in any game, is to get the core survival skills first - in Glitch it's energy and mood.

I realized that I got enough mood boost petting and watering trees and piggies that I could use the Orb and snacking on piggies to keep energy up ... my first purchases were cooking tools so I could make flour and spices and cook things to get more energy per unit of food.

I'm up to my pointed eartips in food now ... and may try mining or something.

  • .. or you could just bundle the grain and donate the bundles instead of losing value selling and re-buying.

  • It'll probably get nerfed at some point, but an very efficient method of getting currants / energy / donation fodder is to turn all that meat into Sammiches, by purchasing the buns.

120 buns cost about 1080c, then you can sell back a stack of 40 Sammiches for 800c. If you're after currants, sell back all 120, for a profit of 1320c

The raw meat is worth 10 energy, but with some AK6 you don't need to pet anymore, so costs very little energy to harvest. Adding the 9c worth of bun, and your turning 19 raw energy into 29 cooked, a 53% boost.

Finally, you can donate stacks of 15 Sammiches, with a chance to earn a gameshow ticket each time.

  • Right now for me each chicken gives 5 grain per squeeze. And I can squeeze each chicken five times per day. So each chicken in an area translates into five buns, if you throw in a bit of spice. I use the buns to make expensive grilled cheese. I prefer not to need to buy any of the components for my cooking, though we still don't have beehives, so honey for the ketchup still needs to be purchased at a grocer to make the E.G.C. (I really really really want a beehive in my yard!)

Animal kinship definitely pays off, especially with Remote Herdkeeping. I just sell off or donate the meat (after putting some back into the piggie feeder) but my large daily harvest of butterfly milk is essential (when augmented with a little no-no powder.)
