Planting Rocks

I like the idea of planting rocks.

All of you who were in the first beta, remember back to when nature would talk to you and tell you stuff about the giants. There was a rock that told us the rocks have roots. Well if the rocks do still have roots then we should be able to plant some right? That way we can have some control over what rocks spawn in a street.

Of course if we are able to plant rocks then we should have a way to get rid of rocks so I also like the idea of a rock not re-spawning unless you plant 1 piece of rock. So, say after you mine a rock away you would then have to plant 1 of the mined pieces of the rock to make it grow back.

What say yall?

  • I'm not wild about the idea of rocks not re-spawning unless I re-plant them. I'm sure that many players would actually replant after mining, but just a few players deciding not to replant and suddenly whole streets/caverns would be rockless, necessitating first replanting then another wait for spawning.

However, since we are supposed to be able to Imagine the world and already have the ability to decide which trees to plant, I do like the idea of being able to plant rocks. Throw some Bubbles, Sparky Chunks and Red Elements into an Egg Seasoner (or would it be a Bean Seasoner, or...a Rock Tumbler) and you get some Sparkly Rootstock. After planting, the resulting rocks would function like normal rocks, except that they would disappear after 1 game day.

I wonder how crazy people would go making multiple mini-Ajayas?

And what about the economy? Would the rise in surplus rock cause problems? Will vendors continue to buy huge quantities of rock once the role of vendors is diminished?

  • You have a good point there on people not replanting. Perhaps it could find good balance if it acted like trees. You could "kill" the rock and plant a different type that would stay there till "killed"
