The Groddle Meadow Repopulation Effort

Howdy y'all. I'm currently accepting donations and seeking volunteers to help repopulate Groddle Meadow with animals. There's a big shortage of chickens and butterflies in particular. So far I've reintroduced about a dozen butterflies and half a dozen chickens, but I'm low on money so any help with this would be much appreciated! After Groddle Meadow is sufficiently saturated with animals, I'll move on to other zones.

(Or if you prefer not to donate, always buy Soloveitchik Brand Butterfly Milk. It's gathered with care by Sid Soloveitchik himself. Guaranteed Kosher!)

  • I am so glad I'm not the only one who plans on helping out with this! I am extremely saddened by the current butterfly situation. Not only does it make things way too difficult on new players (how many will not bother with any butterfly quests now, or forget about them?), we seasoned players are having a difficult time finding butterflies to milk for cooking/drink making.

I'm not sure what the long term solution should be, but I hope things improve for the lifespan of the butterflies. (Maybe there should be no "life-span" for selected butterflies that are out in the public areas?)

  • We're all back at the beginning :(
So, its a bit of a slow start. I *just* got my house, so hopefully if I can finish up my Animal skills I can help out a bit more. This sounds like a good idea for new group. If u start one, I would love to join

  • I'm not sure what you mean by "selected butterflies", but butterfly lifespans were introduced because streets were getting mobbed with animals (which causes significant performance problems, particularly on slower clients).  So making public butterflies in general immortal would not work out well.

I think it's worth waiting a bit for more glitchen to mature -- get the higher level AH skills, get wealthy enough to spare currants for public butterflying -- the population may well recover without changes in game mechanics.

(I've been doing a bit of repopulation in the Heights, but not much because I've been sinking my resources into skill development.)

  • I agree that having at least one butterfly per street be immortal would be a step in the right direction.  I understand that there could be too many butterflies in an area, but, going from too many to none is a bit of a change in the wrong direction.

I will help with trying to repopulate the butterfly population over the next few days, but I don't know how much resources I can devote to that.

  • I'm glad there's some enthusiasm for this. I'm not sure how long butterflies are going to last with so many people now milking them, but hopefully we don't have to do this every day. >< I've got about 25 butterflies released and 20 chickens now.

  • I agree Sid. Even when some of us do level up, some of use like to make food/drink on the go. We need butterflies and as FnordX said, going from too many to none is not a good thing at all.

Hopefully, those of us who read this & agree can help make things better for everyone in regards to this.

I purchased some Certified Solovethik Butterfly Milk to help with the cause. ;)

  • I know there have been some of us (myself included) trying to repopulate the butterflies. The biggest problem I've run into is not enough bubbles. Hopefully as my harvesting skills improve this will be less of a hindrance.

  • i started hatching eggs tonight and putting the chicks and caterpillars up on auction.  Like Zara, I don't have enough raw materials to feed my hatching time.  Hopefully by tomorrow evening there'll be more stuff up for auction so we can make Groddle a happy place again!
Posted 15 months ago by Lelu Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, the high price of bubbles and my lack of bubble tuning skill has been restricting me a little bit, so I've mainly just been buying eggs from animal goods vendors. It's a little more expensive, but also more convenient. I think I'm done for now, though, after releasing about 25 butterflies and 30 chickens in Groddle Meadow. =P

  • I don't have thr time, but I do have the bubbles. If someone can catch me in game on IM, ill contribute to the effort
Posted 15 months ago by Jia-pop Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I can't hatch eggs myself, but I can help collect bubbles. Don't have great harvesting skills either, but if I have time on my hands, why not? I miss seeing animals everywhere!

  • Ok, I'm just about out of money and tired so I'm done for today. I lost count, but I think I released around 41 butterflies and 38 chickens in Groddle Meadow today. About half of Groddle Meadow streets now have at least 3 chickens and 3 butterflies, some a bit more. Hopefully they don't all die by tomorrow, and hopefully some other folks'll hatch some eggs too by then.

  • Groddle Forest has the same problem. I'm doing my bit but with so many new players it's a bit of a battle.

  • Trust me, once people start going after various achievements, the world will be annoyingly overpopulated again like it was prior to reset.  I say just do a little bit vice trying to do it all, and over time, the world will be back to overcrowdedness when everyone is chipping in...I actually am enjoying the less critter filled world.  Makes it a bit more challenging to get some of the quests accomplished, but easier to move around, interact with trees and other glitchen...

  • I've seen your work here in Groddle Meadow, Sid. Thanks so much! It looks so much nicer with some life here (besides us!)

My boyfriend is now able to make animal eggs so, he will be helping with your efforts as much as possible, and I will be making/harvesting bubbles for him to use.

Thanks to everyone who is helping make Ur a more beautiful, animal friendly place again.

  • I say less animals is better. The people who really provide the goods at auction are the ones who automate anyways.
Posted 15 months ago by Mr. Dawgg Subscriber! | Permalink
  • There have to be balance. Old situation before reset was absurd. At some streets it was so laggy because of tons of animals that i prefer to see empty street instead of this.

Please put some animals, but do not put too much of them. People with slower computers or people running linux where flash is still not GPU accelerated get lags because of this.

Do not put animals in Illmenskie mines and deeps too.
Posted 15 months ago by Lilla My Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Mr. Dawgg, I have more auctions up than most people higher levels up on my friend's list, and I've never automated.

I actually enjoy interacting with the animals (as well as the trees.) It's part of what makes this game so great; interacting with people and objects we can't in real life.

  • Dawgg, automation's not enough for me. ;) Main reason I'm doing this isn't aesthetic, it's so I have more animals to squeeze and milk to make more currants! And it's just something to do now that I have my Alakol mansion.

And Lilla, don't worry, I've been limiting it to about 5 butterflies and 5 chickens per street, with a minimum of 3 of each. I hope that won't be too many. I also have no intention of putting any in Ilmenskie or anywhere people do a lot of mining.

P.S. 61 butterflies, 45ish chickens released so far.

  • Go Sid Go!  ;D
Posted 15 months ago by Carnivale Justice Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So apparently since last night several of the butterflies I released in busy streets have already died. >< Hopefully lifespans will be increased, but until then I can't afford to replace them every day, so I'm going to move on to just releasing more animals around my home.

  • I'm working on getting my Husbandry skills back. As soon as I can start seasoning and hatching eggs again I'll contribute gladly.

  • Yes, I kind of went to great lengths to put 3 butterflies in Footlands Heath this afternoon. All gone now. So sad.

I guess that's because they got milked a lot?
Posted 15 months ago by crowdedsky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • This has been my plan since reset, finally getting the skills together to be able to contribute. And a house to store the extra bits and bobs for egg making in. I've been a bit slower at regaining skills than some, a full-time job does tend to get in the way.

Saro started a discussion once on the "Ur Public Property Protection Pledge" which sort of covers this. It's certainly affected my glitch goals and gameplay  beta.glitch.com/forum/gener...

A thought, because of the the shortened life span, perhaps focussing on the meadow is not ideal, as lots of players head through there. Perhaps a more far flung area, to get animal densities up and then let that flow into the main areas as the ecology of the game stabilises? My house is in Besara, so I guess I'll focus there.
Posted 15 months ago by Eldorian Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, I'm focusing on Alakol now since Groddle Meadow seems to be too crowded. Hundreds of people milking in a day means butterflies die way too fast there. I'm hoping lifespans will be increased, at least for public places, but who knows.
Posted 15 months ago by Sid Soloveitchik Subscriber! | Permalink
  • yeah, they nerfed the remote herdkeeping quite extensively a few tests back  - there's a limit to how many collectors/milkers you have and I think they might even fill up more slowly the more you have?  Spending  some time milking/nibbling will reap you super-harvests that rack up nicely.
Posted 15 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Sid & Eldorian, good plan. I'll get started on making some for the "far flungs areas" as Eldorian suggested.

@Shexycorin, I think that's right. I heard some talking about that right before the final re-set.

If anyone makes a group for our goals in this thread, please let me know. I'd love to join.

I love the team spirit of most Glitcher's & I hope to see it flourish and not die as the game grows bigger and bigger.

  • miriamele, the butterflies are dying off really fast; by the time more people are wanting to release butterflies, the ones we've released today will be gone anyway.

  • The only thing cooler than living in a world with butterflies, is the joy of being the one to create and release them.
Posted 15 months ago by gimmegames Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Gimmiegames, very well said.  ♥

@Fnibbit, you are very right. Three of the areas that Sid populated with some are already either empty of butterflies already or have just a couple left.

The time to make more is NOW, not later.

  • I'm going to chime on on the thought that when there are more butterflies, they shouldn't last as long, as well as when there are less they should last longer.

The max population might be able to go up, if after there where 10, the 11th one only lasted for one milking...

In the other direction, last butterfly, shouldn't it last MUCH longer?

  • How does one raise and release critters, anyway?  I was trying to figure that out and came upon this timely posting :)

  • You need to have the Animal Husbandry skill, ElectricMime, and use an Egg Seasoner.

  • I put three piggies in the community pig pen today, in Kipacre Greens. I think 3 is plenty for those pens.

I'll feed them as often as I pass there, but I do hope others help keep them happy & healthy so everyone who needs their meat can get some. I also hope that everyone will leave them in the pen.

I also let some butterflies go in a few areas that didn't have any around.

  • you guys make me smile.  I'll get the Public Charity Animal Husbandry (PCAH) group started shortly.

  • Maybe make one area the animal area. One that isn't used. That way your animal kingdom is centralized. Less walking around needed for you. Less lag for everyone else.

    Which area though?

    edit
    Thinking about this more.

You know, this really would be great if everyone was on board and spread the word.
    Heights for Metal
Ajaya Bliss for Sparkly and Deeps for Rocks in general that is
    Ix for Spice
    Besara for Gas
Now a place densely populated by animals is all we need. Maybe a different place for each animal type?

  • So, some (censored) decided to take the three pigs, a couple of the chickens and the note I left at the Community Pen in Kipacre Greens today. Very very nice.

I wish greed wasn't getting so bad in this game. It's really disheartening.

(I won't be posting about any animals I leave around nor their locations in the forums anymore.)

  • Instead of limiting things to a single region, we should make everything easily accessible to everyone.  Newbies especially find it easier if all the different things are in each area.  I, for one, am going to make sure that there are a variety of trees and animals in each region.

Fortunately, no one can take it upon themselves to re-design the mining, which TS in its wisdom has made available everywhere.  Just as they've made different regions home to several different tree types.  If it were good game design to remove all examples of a resource from a region, then I'm sure it would have been done, since they HAVE limited which regions various trees can grow in.

So, we'll be back to the tree wars, where groups of us work to keep individual compulsive organizing from limiting players from fully enjoying what TS has designed the game to offer
