My new way of playing, taking a little roleplaying to Glitch

Hello there,

I have had the idea to enter a race or a class system in Glitch. Not to hardlinery but so that there are restrictions for learning for a certain class or race.
For exmaple: I play a woodgnome. I am not allowed to learn any producing skills. I live on harvesting, gardening and animals allone. I found it to be quite playable and it also lets me interact more with other players. I am not able to make any food, I'm not able to craft or even repair my tools. So that lets me ask others for help and buy more in auctions or on the street.
I gets kinda boring, when you can learn any skill you want and you are absolutely autharc then and need no one else.

It can also be a guideline for looks or behavior.  Not as a real restriction but as an idea. I'm green, I wear natural things and closes. I like animals and especially trees and I like to play tricks on other glitches, if possible. And a good pun is always fun, too. As you might have guessed through my name.

What do you think?

  • Hello Meeh,

I only started a few days ago but I started thinking along the same lines. I'm trying to be a chef/cook and make my living by cooking food and selling it. My real goal is to open a restaurant in the giant's imagination. And just think, there isn't even any formal way to do that yet.

I don't think of it as restricting what skills I learn but it does focus my skills. I'm now working on the very last skill in the cooking skills and the highest of any other set of skills I've got is 2nd level tinkering, after all a cook needs to be able to fix her own pots and pans sometimes.

I will confess, I did learn some mining to make enough currants to buy a cute little cottage.

I think the idea of limiting one's choices in skills and picking a path to follow is a great idea. I would also love to see a way to actually open that restaurant.

    Cordially yours,
    Miss Hazelnut

  • I think the game allows you the freedom to play it exactly as you like (as a wood elf or whatever) without forcing restrictions on you for choosing that path. You can change your mind without going through steps to change your path (or without being locked into a choice).
