I tired of these. They get in my way when I'm trying to do other things, and the great abundance of them means that I attribute very little value to milk, cheese, meat, grain.
In general:
Only put chickens in dry, grassy places.
Only put butterflies in dense, rainforesty type places.
Only put pigs in meadow-type places.
Don't put chickens underground.
Don't put butterflies in caves.
There are some rare fauna (Fireflies, Crabs, etc. come to mind) but I think that the standards are way, way too bountiful.
Reducing supply will also motivate players to talk to each other more.
