Make "personal objectives" more clear.

Hello, noob player here.

I like Glitch, and I think it has a lot of potential, but it's left me with a very strong feeling of "I can come up with personal goals in the game, but I don't know how to achieve them"

For example, it's clear that I could: "Get really good at mining and alchemy, and make stuff."  But, I don't know what "stuff" is.  I don't know exactly what skills and tools I need to learn.  Skill & tool descriptions aren't descriptive enough for me to make an educated guess about which are the right ones.  (For example, I purchased an alchemal toolkit, thinking that it would allow me to do alchemy, but it was, of course, an empty box)

Or, I'd love to "grow lots of food and cook yummy stuff".  I know I need to learn LGT and Cooking, but I'm not sure exactly where to go from there.  "Discovering" recipes, drinks, etc. is really cumbersome and it's hard to have a concrete goal in mind.

Therefore, I just end up sticking to the quests, hoping that they'll move me forward in some interesting direction.  But, as far as I can tell, the focus of the quests is a "broad" skill knowledge.  I'd rather spend my time going deep on 1 or 2 skills that combine interestingly together.

Anyway, I love the game, but I find myself aimlessly wandering around trying to do random things to earn mood/energy/currants so that I can play.  I'd much rather be focused, and have some better input/control into which quests are presented to me.  Almost like a "choose your character class" but of course, something quite a bit softer than that.

  • Slacy, have you taken a look at the Achievements page? It may help you in your quest for personal goals :)

  • No, haven't looked at Achivements, but have looked at Skills.  Looking at Achivements now, I'm seeing the same kind of vaguery that I see in the other pages.  None of these seem to explain "why" or "how".  For example:

    http://beta.glitch.com/achievements/first-emblem-of-cosma/
    "Got your first Cosma Emblem"

When I see something like this, I immediately google "glitch strategy emblem of cosma" to put me here:

    http://www.glitch-strategy.com/wiki/Emblem_of_Cosma

But even that isn't very descriptive about the How & Why of this thing.

For example, none of these say "You need to donate items to a shrine to accumulate XX favor points to get the emblem.  You can find shrines to Cosma in locations YY and ZZ.  Here's a chart of suggested items (appropriate to my current skill set) that generate a good amount of favor points: AA, BB, CC"

Taking a page from Kingdom Of Loathing (kingdomofloathing.com) I would have expected every item to have an official or unofficial page kind of like this: http://kol.coldfront.net/index.php/content/view/624/49?itemid=455

    Answering the following:
    - What skills do I need to make/use this?
    - What can I make it from?
    - What can I make with it?
    - How much energy/mood/favor/currants, etc. is this thing "worth".

  • Slacy, I feel your pain. As a fellow adventurer I too was used to the very extensive KoL wiki. But KoL has been around since 2003 and Glitch is only a few months in beta. Give the Glitch wiki some time to grow... maybe you can find some satisfaction in contributing to the wiki? :)

Personally I don't go after achievements, they are mostly "do this xx times". If you want to set some long-term goals for yourself you should take a closer look at the skill tree. I think you will find PurpleLogic's list of skills very helpful.

Sir Crankybottoms posted a similar issue ("A better Encyclopedia"). I must agree... the Encyclopedia could be improved by adding more info. But maybe TS likes it this way and thinks players should look at the unofficial wiki for more extensive information/spoilers? It would be nice to know...
