TOTAL "Newb" here!

Hey! I'm MoPanda, commonly called Mo by my only Glitch friend Megha, who was the one who got me into this.
So, um, I'd like some friends...

But that's not the point! Megha's always telling me about how great people on Glitch are, so I've been wondering if some of you "great people" could help me get around? I just wanted a few tips on stuffs. Is there anything hugely important I need to know? Thanks in advance!

The Mo

  • Welcome, have fun. I always recommand leveling up mining, teleporting and better learning to the max as soon as you can. That rest you can do level 1 at first just to dip your toes in. You can buy food/milk for energy/mood, but the sparklies give lots of simple favor (with the favor powder), to level yourself too.

But really, relax, and enjoy the game, there's no rush.

  • I'd go here.  www.glitch.com/forum/genera...;

It is a recent similar post with some good ideas and it isn't too lengthy to read.

  • we've compiled a list of third party apps & websites (found in this forum thread: www.glitch.com/forum/genera... ) .
a lot of these have not only saved me a lot of strife (wandering aimlessly looking for fireflies), but they have greatly enhanced my play experience because i found out about the crab runs (check out www.glitch-strategy.com for info on those!) and i can always find the nearest of anything (shrines, vendors, piggies, etc) to my current in-game location (thanks to www.glitchremote.com ).
Use global, don't hesitate to ask for help, i've added you to my friends list, contact me anytime for anything! =)

ETA: sorry for the sloppy format on this post, using the internet at work when i'm not sposed to. :-)

  • Yay, hi Mo! Welcome to Glitch!
Your friend is right, we're the most awesomesauce people who have ever lived. Although we can be a li'l bit weird at times. I advise that you check out global from time to time. The people there are totally willing to help you out. Also, if you've got any questions people in global don't know the answers to, ask Live Help. The guides are always friendly and ready to respond to you.

Ask me for anything you need! You'll find a pretty shiny thing in the mail soon. :)

  • My recommendation to all:
    Try everything.

beyond that, max out better learning right off the bat. really helps down the road.

  • The most important thing to know is that at least for now, there's nothing to stop you getting all the skills over time--you're not going to rule out being a miner if you max out your Animal Kinship, for instance.  If something sounds fun, learn that first.  (I'm still not a huge mining fan--it's absolutely true that it's a quick way to pick up high-value resources, but I don't enjoy it as much.  But some people love it...  and that's OK!  Do what you enjoy.)

Food and drinks become less useful as you level up, especially once you get your icons, so I personally would work on cooking/mixology skills and achievements relatively early on.  At Level 46, my Glitch almost never eats regular food (or cooks) anymore.

Look behind things you can walk behind--some of us are fond of leaving fun surprises around Ur.

Welcome to our wonderfully weird little world, Mo!

  • Oooooo fresh meat! >:D

No, really, I just nibbled a piggy. Would you like some?

  • Food and drinks become less useful as you level up

I don't understand.  food's food.   When you do it just depends on when you decide to get the badges, or when you fancy doing some cooking, surely?   If i hadn't done any cooking until now, it would still be really useful to do it  - for xp, for donating, for eating... once I get my mega-supa-beaonrator badge, I might go back to cooking.... I got obsessed about cooking EVERYTHING for a while, wanted a bigger bag of each meal. Then I got bored, sold everything and did something else.  Cubimals, I think.

I use all my icons a LOT, but I still need to eat a lot.  It depends on how much you do in a day

  • Welcome to Glitch!!!  Just have fun and explore.  Eat lots of meat for health - so pet and nibble pigs.  Also squeeze chickens and water, pet, and harvest trees.  Initially you can donate small amounts of all of these things to all the different shrines for favor.  You would be amazed at how that can add up.  Don't hesitate to ask questions if you need help or aren't sure how to figure something out - we all muddled through at one time.  Please do ask if you need anything.

  • Welcome to Glitch! As long as you're having fun and not harming anyone, play how YOU want to play, not how someone tells you to play. Advice is always freely given but you can choose any path you want to. Go explore, harvest everything, examine everything, just enjoy the game.

  • @shhexy corin--oh, it's definitely a gameplay style thing, and you should do what works for you!  I had a blast doing the cooking skills, but compared to hangin' with my icons, Awesome Stew doesn't pay off on the time investment the way it used to.  (Again, I do very little mining--but lots of exploring, resource gathering, messing around with my tincturing kit.  I can play for real-life hours on end without having to eat.)

Oh, and the high-value energy quoins in the Ancestral Lands help too.  :-)

  • Welcome!

Georgia has great advice, I think. It's not that any skill is ever really useless, but I do think the AK and Cooking skills give the best bang for the buck early on, and I like that they integrate well into lower-level gameplay (but then, I was never much a fan of mining).

Unequivocally, though, start runnin' though Better Learning once you have the basics. It gets tougher (longer time) to learn the more you already have in your head, and it's the skill that helps cut down on that exact problem - talk about a Glitch 22!

  • Hello, Mo! Welcome to Glitch! :D

I believe, the first thing you should definitely try, is to travel around. The world is your oyster! Or maybe you should try getting your papers quest. Go to a Subway, then learn how to get your papers signed so you can take the train.

Taking the train is fun. c:
