Notice re: 4/5 Auctions! It's Rude!

First off I know it's buyer beware, and I know I am fully responsible for being in too much of a hurry to notice the Extremely Hallowed Sacred Power was NOT A FULL 5/5 -- but it's a nasty thing some sellers do as it is mho INTENTIONALLY trying to trick people.

So you know who you are - the Glitchen with a buch of $1850c EHSP auctions - ya got me!

Never again, never again!

  • I know I've been burned by this in the past as well, and for a game that promotes cooperation instead of competition, it's clearly disingenuous on the part of the seller.

What if auctions for items with uses (shrine powders, firefly jars, etc.) were sorted by 'cost per use' instead of item cost?  This should prevent hucksters from being able to take advantage of people.

  • Would definitely make sense! Just like the other item stacks...

  • "I know it's buyer beware, and I know I am fully responsible for being in too much of a hurry...but"

    NO BUTS!
Posted 13 months ago by Electric Wizard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But it's still a nasty practice Bender...and I'll "but" whenever I feel something is not as it could be.
Posted 13 months ago by MeherMan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 Miss Configuration

It's the same thing that had to be done with tools.

And it's not just bad for buyers but bad for sellers too -- sellers in a rush sometimes end up pricing their 5/5 powder lower than the 1/5 or 4/5 that's lowest at the time.
Posted 13 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I did the same thing, but paid $1850 for 1/5 EHSP.  My fault, but I had no idea someone would do that!  I didn't bother to message the seller, just blocked them.  It's a shame that a game based on cooperation and hijinks gets nasty over pretend money.
Posted 13 months ago by Sloppy Ketchup Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Same here. Always feel stupid after. Hope the seller is proud for doing this, since that is the only person who will be proud for him/her. I wonder if blocking will hide those person's auctions? Will have to try it. Be nice if it did.

Update: sadly, you can not select the user's profile from their auction. Just need to be more watchful in the future.
Posted 13 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • All you people saying "you got me" and "hope the seller is proud" -- you are acting as if this is anybody's fault but your own for not reading a simple auction description.

Back before the uses left were even mentioned in the auction, I can totally see how complaining about this would be (and was!) valid.

But this is just laziness and stupidity on your part.  To try to blame anyone but yourself is childish.

I've accidentally paid full price for less-than-full powders.  I've also accidentally sold fewer than 80 meats for full price because I'm going quickly and not paying attention when I'm auctioning a ton of stuff.  Both things are my fault, not anybody else's.  The fact that my meats didn't sell and were returned to me just meant that everyone else actually read the description.

  • just an alternate voice:

it's really easy to put the wrong one up for auction and more than one seller has been embarrassed by having sold used powers at full price. often they will refund you the difference when they realize what's happened.

yes, it is rude to do it on purpose. it happens by accident more often than you might think.
Posted 13 months ago by flask Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "But this is just laziness and stupidity on your part."

That's harsh.  We all make mistakes.  Should I call you lazy and stupid since you didn't notice your stacks of meat were a full 80?

As for the OP...I dont think you can yell at the sellers of the 4/5 powders.  How do you know they didn't ALSO make a mistake and auction it not knowing it had one use?
Posted 13 months ago by Feylin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think it's quite possible to accept responsibility but also feel a bit aggrieved.  It's not a very nice thing to do, there's a one use up there at the moment for more than a lot of the full use ones.  This is obviously someone hoping a customer won't notice the description, which is fine, if that's how they want to play it, but it's not very "community minded".
Posted 13 months ago by Midi Reifsnider Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Is it so hard to list by unit price? I don't understand why.
Posted 13 months ago by BeChiu Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Feylin, I'm pretty sure the OP mentioned seeing several from the same seller with less than 5 uses, that seems unlikely to be an accident.  ~~Edit~~ No, he didn't, but generally, with EHSP, I often see multiple less than 5 use auctions up from the same seller frequently, so I made an ASSumption ~~End Edit~~

Just make the price be per use.  Simple, problem solved for everyone.

  • i made this mistake once too, and never again. there is no excuse for not being careful in auctions. there is no excuse for making a mistake in all the info is shown properly. and sure meher, you can "but" anytime you want, but that's just an immature thing to do.
Posted 13 months ago by Electric Wizard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i notice that people use this word "immature" to describe behaviors by people of all ages that they find selfish.

i therefore conclude that selfishness is not immature, but people like to characterize annoying people as being not fully developed.

i think those people are fully mature; they're just selfish and greedy.

seriously. if there are THAT many people of retirement age (nevermind legal majority) who behave selfishly and greedily, it cannot be thought of as a sign of immaturity.
Posted 13 months ago by flask Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I've been on the recieving end of a *full priced* `1/5 EHSP and didn't even notice the mistake until I had done just 1 use and was like, "Oh crap where's the EHSP go---- OH." >_<

On the other hand I've also sold less than full containers -- FOR A REDUCED PRICE -- not because I'm trying to trick people but because I was done with them and wanted space in my inventory.

If full price for EHSP is 2000c I don't think it's out of line for 4/5 to be 1850c.  That's just my feeling on the matter.  4/5 is still nearly full.  :: shrugs ::
Posted 13 months ago by ♪♥~ Auren ~♥♪ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • that too. production price for ehsp is way above selling price, some people calculated it to be around 2500, so selling 4/5 for 1850 could be a fair attempt by the seller to increase auction price for 5/5 ehsp.
Posted 13 months ago by Electric Wizard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • you guys are being ridiculous! theres nothing wrong with selling used items as long its clearly labeled as not being fully used especially if its priced right.

I agree this was a valid issue before items werent labeled as being used...but now that its fixed.  Its kinda unfair to blame the seller for your mistake...they can sell items at any price they want. Overpriced items may not sell but theres nothing wrong with it unless the user is trying to scam you and claim something about the item thats not true.
Posted 13 months ago by Riddleguy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah I agree Bender.  I was making EHSP and selling at a loss before I realised what was happening.  Now I just buy it on auction rather than make it myself.  When prices stabilise at a fair value for the producer I might go back to making it but until then ... :: shrugs ::
Posted 13 months ago by ♪♥~ Auren ~♥♪ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I've never done this because I always check to see how many uses something has, as everyone should (it takes all of one second). However, if someone has a habit of selling used items at full price then I will put them on my personal blacklist and make sure that I never buy anything from them, because I don't want to give my business to someone with such shady practices.

  • @Feylin "Should I call you lazy and stupid since you didn't notice your stacks of meat were a full 80?"

  • Ah...John G. - are you lazy and stupid?
Posted 13 months ago by MeherMan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think most sellers mark their 4/5 items at a slight discount price, but I can think of at least one who consistently sells 4/5 jars at full price. I got caught by that seller once, and now I do check more carefully before clicking Buy.
Posted 13 months ago by Vocable Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I reported this thinking it was a bug before (because in the auction listing, the price displayed is per jar not per use as it is with tools or other objects) and the staff says they're looking into it. If you feel really strongly about it though, perhaps start a petition?
Posted 13 months ago by Ellisande Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 John Galt. How is it a "cruel practice"? Just pay attention. Half the people who do this don't mean to trick anyone, they just have some extra EHSP that someone might want. There's really nothing wrong with it.
Posted 13 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hey guess what? We're working on this! It is confusing, for all involved parties (selling and buying). So, soon.
Posted 13 months ago by Blanky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's not the half that don't mean to trick anyone that is the problem. It is certain sellers that list multiple 4/5 powders all at the same time. They do this habitually.
Posted 13 months ago by MaryLiLamb Subscriber! | Permalink
  • again, mary, it might be an honest way to fix the prices that are unfair: production price for ehsp is way above selling price, some people calculated it to be around 2500, so selling 4/5 for 1850 could be a fair attempt by the seller to increase auction price for 5/5 ehsp.

  • here's the topic where people discussed the vaule of ehsp. all costs considered, it pays of more to just sell the mined rocks than to make ehsp and sell it at auction.

Posted 13 months ago by Ellisande Subscriber! | Permalink
  • For me, the fun of the actions is getting a high quality item for low money or get screw, it's a game after all. Making EHSP is not easy, so whatever price you pay, is probably more than fair.

I'm getting annoyed of newbies complaining about the mechanics of the game, so TS spends time fixing it, instead of adding new stuff, like new regions, new items, new skills.

  • 5/5 sneezing powder is too much.  I'd be happy to buy sneezing powder with only 2 left.   I rarely use it and don't want to carry it around forever.

    Same goes for fertilidust lite
Posted 13 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's the 1/5 ones you need to watch out for. It's obviously just a very greedy attempt to trick the buyer when somebody tries to sell 1/5 for the price 5/5. There are most certainly dishonerable intentions on the part of the seller, but ultimately the buyer needs to pay more attention as well.

The developers should basically tag incomplete items that are being auctioned in red as a warning. That way they can still be sold and they stick out like a sore thumb so you won't mistake them for the full version.
Posted 13 months ago by Melting Sky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Tag them red or price list them like Quills where it's per unit of use rather than some sort of container unit price. It's annoying to buy a partial but comes mainly from not paying attention, I felt bad 'cos I'd been careless rather than have a go at the vendor who is, after all, playing the game by the rules. It's not eBay after all and the money ain't real.
