I Sing to the Butterflies at Midnight

We met over sparkle, in Callopee’s dark,
You smiled at me and took my hand,
I followed you closely, your key to my heart,
Powder fell about you.

And I sing to the butterflies at midnight, my dear,
I sing to the butterflies at midnight.
‘Lo the parsnips may grow and the spice must flow,
I sing to the butterflies at midnight.

We spent the day splanking, the meadow’s new light,
I kissed you and showed you my pickle.
You laughed with delight, and said: “Oh, no, my dear,”
“The Powder is my one true love.”

And I sing to the butterflies at midnight, my dear,
I sing to the butterflies at midnight.
‘Lo the parsnips may grow and the spice must flow,
I sing to the butterflies at midnight.

You grew your tomatoes, Dosfan Vex was home,
I petted the piggies until they smiled.
You said: “Let’s go mine,” but I knew that you wanted,
To crush more sparkle into powder.

And I sing to the butterflies at midnight, my dear,
I sing to the butterflies at midnight.
‘Lo the parsnips may grow and the spice must flow,
I sing to the butterflies at midnight.

That night when you leapt, o’er the balcony we kept,
I yelled “Triple bounce, use your spinach!”
But you looked back to me, and smiled as you fell,
“I can’t, for No-No is my love.”

And I sing to the butterflies at midnight, my dear,
I sing to the butterflies at midnight.
‘Lo the parsnips may grow and the spice must flow,
I sing to the butterflies at midnight.

Where you had fallen, a spice tree now grows,
A stone to Lem now marks your passage.
Some nights I find, a note left behind,
It reads: “Make sure to mine the sparkle.”

And I sing to the butterflies at midnight, my dear,
I sing to the butterflies at midnight.
‘Lo the parsnips may grow and the spice must flow,
I sing to the butterflies at midnight.

  • I am ALMOST embarassed to admit it, but this brought a tear to my eye. Very sweet - sort of Edgar Alan Poe-ish.

  • This is so lovely. It needs to be set to music with interpretive dance. Ok, skip the dancing. But still, totally loved it :).
