Improving the Chat in Glitch

Hello fellow glitchers,

I just joined this unique game a few weeks ago and so far its been pretty awesome.

But today I noticed of one thing that seems to be always a hassle to use and that's the Chat.

Whethers it's local/global/party chat, the sidebar and the space thats allotted to it seems very crammed in to the overall interface.. where one barely has room for 4+ lines with just 2 chats open (local and global).

Now  I am aware that my 15.1" laptop screen is smaller-end of screen sizes on computers today. I think there is room for improvement.

The easiest change would be to use the blank space below the chat interface to increase the amount of chat that can be displayed.

Another idea would be to have a pop-out chat button that would allow you to have individual or the complete chat bar popped out in a separate browser window. It would allow those with multiple screens to move chat to a different screen.

Those are the ideas I have at the moment. I'm no expert at Flash, Actionscript, JavaScript etc. but I've seen similar implementations of what I mentioned above.

I would love to draw up some mockup UI examples but I'm far from graphics designer or Photoshop wizard, the highlighting in the picture is my brush skills on a good day ;)

  • I agree with this...

I think it may be better to take local chat from the bottom and make it into a tab, as well as extend the chat sidebar down. I did a very quick mockup of this: http://imgur.com/yKfgm

  • I would really like the ability to minimize local, and make any of the chats I choose to open the full length of the window.

Often, Global is jumping. I chat while I sit at home, where nothing is happening in local except messages about the items I am crafting. Makes no sense that the busy chat channel is forced into a tiny box because I am always forced to see the slow one.
