In Area Speaking

I like the concept of the global speaking but I wonder would it be better if you could just speak to everyone in the area you are in? Maybe we can do this already and I didn't find it but for me it would make sense if I hit the "T" key I would talk in my area, the "G" key for a global message.

I just think of this because sometimes you need say a hard bubble or some other item and if you could get it from someone in the same area as you without cluttering the global chat that would be cool

If this already exists though you can get rid of the post ^_^

  • Seconded - I think the global chat should be distinct from in-world talking. Global chat should not cause a text bubble to appear above your character, while in-world talking should have the text bubble, but not go to the global chat.

  • This was (maybe) the last test we'll be doing with global chat at all; it's possible we keep it around for one or two more tests, but there definitely won't be global chat for much longer.

We have global chat now because the number of simultaneous players is low enough that it doesn't quite explode and it's useful for answering questions and seeing who's online. When we get rid of it forever, we'll have decently working local chat along with at least one of: multi-player IM, "party" chat (for small, transient ad-hoc groups) and group chat.

  • Yesterday was my first opportunity to hop into Glitch. And this is my first foray into the Forums, so perhaps this has been broached before. Has any consideration been given to separate sorts of chatting? It's difficult to follow a conversation in the global chat if I am doing anything which spams the chat window. And I did notice some of my fellow Glitchums are a little less than articulate. Is there a mute function I did not discover? (Admittedly, I was busy chasing pigs. I could have looked a little harder.)
