Little Talks

I'm not really sure if this would be better in 'Off Topic' or here. I'll try here first :-)

There's a band from Iceland called 'Of Monsters and Men' who I've been hearing a lot on the radio just lately - in particular, a song called 'Little Talks'. I rather like it  and posted it on This is My Jam this week. To do that, I looked up the official video on YouTube. It's a fabulous video, but also counts as one of the most bizarre I've seen in quite a while. But the thing that struck me most whilst watching it - it's so very Glitchian.

You'll have to watch it to see what I mean - you can do that here. I won't say too much up front - I'd like to see what people think, but if you watch it, you'll find both the Rook and a Giant.

So, what do you think? Is this song/video really a portrayal of Ur?

  • I totally get the Ur-esque vibe from that :)

  • I don't think so, but I think it might be a universe that's on pretty friendly terms with Ur.

    That's not a rook. It's something vulturey.

Edited to add... Okay, the end definitely has a little Ur-echo.

  • Great video, and I see where one could compare it with Ur! At least it's given me something to whistle/hum other than the Glitch theme; thanks for sharing!

  • I love this, very creative!  It even has a multi-eyed giant!  I agree the "Rook" looked more like a Vulture but it was still a similar villain.

  • It reminds me of a lot of Terry Gilliam's work.

  • @ glum - Yes. And some Yellow Submarine as well, but much more dramatic.

  • Haha, my friend sent me the link of the video, and the first thing I thought was "Hey that totally looks like a Giant from Glitch!", and only now did I realise that it was the song this forum topic was about (I hadn't had time to listen to it before)! Love it!

This and "Sunset" by Avalanche City are the songs I'm most listening to now :3

  • Owls and giant stone dragons and rooks and Giants? This really has an uncanny resemblance to Glitchy things. Great song btw!

  • Zilleeeeee :D It's totally Zille at the end :D

And it is obviously a post-apocalyptic Ur explored by descendants of todays glitchen (however they descend without gender?). Which also explains the weird monsters and non-rook-like rooks. Obviously vulture-like vooks(?) are just as evil as raven-like rooks!

  • OMGiants!!!! I saw this on MTV over the summer! I thought it looked really cool, but up  until now I have never connected it with Glitch! Good eye!

  • I love that band, and wow you're right, definitely Ur-like.
It also reminds me of the Superbrothers indie game. :o

  • ♫♫
    Hey!
    Don't listen to a word I say
    Hey!
The screams all sound the same
    Hey!
    Though the truth may vary
    This ship will carry
    Our bodies safe to shore
    ♫♫

Thanks! Now it's stuck in my head. :D
