ooooh there are some who are trying ardently to avoid dying ... this would be unfortunate unless it was "opt-in". Maybe it wouldn't work unless you'd been to hell or drunk wine before?
minus eleventy billion.
I appreciate the sense of fun and the spirit in which your idea is intended, but I have concerns.
Admittedly, one of these is an entirely personal reason--namely, having challenged myself to not die (so far having succeeded in this) and heartily disliking the thought of someone dispelling months of my hard-fought paranoia over hundreds of hours of play (if not more) in one fell swoop; should I die, I would like it to be through my own choice or accident rather than someone else's dictation. It strikes me as a means of taking something away from me as a player in a manner over which I truly would have no control.
I also wonder about this as a potential griefing tool. Forget deliberate, targeted, repeated poisoning of trees on someone's home street and the attendant yoinking of animals, etc. (I'm speaking here of specific instances in which at least one player was obviously being targeted, rather than run-of-the-mill picking up of stuff off of home streets.); with the Kiss of Death, there would be the potential for individuals to be repeatedly "kissed" as an act of aggression. Perhaps this could be reported as griefing, but if it's an action that's permissible within the game mechanics, what recourse would the object of repeated Kisses of Death have? It also wouldn't be the greatest welcome for a new player. Imagine it: you're in the game, wondering at the world for the first time, and someone shows up, bites you, and you die? That would kinda suck (no pun intended).
If something like this were to be implemented, I'd definitely suggest that this type of "kiss" only be actionable on players above a certain level so as to give the new glitchlings a chance to get their bearings. Though that'd still leave players like me (of which there are at least a handful), a lot more inhibited in their play.
Just my own thoughts (admittedly biased).
ETA: I like Scarlett's suggestion of it being only applicable to those wot have died before. That would take some of the sting out of this. :)
Then have an opt in. A buff that makes you vulnerable to the vampires. And sorry but sending someone to a wonderful hell adventure is not killing in this game - it's travel.
An opt-in is a great idea. There are lots of people that welcome dying and are going for the achievements, and this would certainly help them do that. It actually speaks to other ideas tossed around in the past that would call for an unlockable set of actions that were more personal, like "caress", for example.
This is more a philosophical digression from this point (particularly since a buff would render this moot), but to me, if you give someone the Kiss of Death and they die, I think that would be considered "killing". We can play semantics with it, put other words on it, like, I dunno: "Helpful Administration of a Deathlike State" or "Conveyance of an Unlife Transfer", or "Giving Someone a Lift on the Highway to Hell", but we do call the action of going to Hell/Naraka "dying", and if that's achieved through someone else's action upon your glitchly person, then I do see that as killing. At the end of it, your glitch is dead by someone else's hand (or teeth). If you've invited that action by choice, cool. If it's not by your choice, not so cool. ETA: I also don't think this can be called "travel" in the same way one travels elsewhere in the game. If it were truly straight-up travel, then I'd have the Naraka completist badge. It rankles that I don't have it; I have all the others. Exploring is my favourite thing to do. Except you have to meet the condition of dying to get that badge, which makes it a special type of travel unlocked by a certain condition that I am not willing to meet at this time.
I also feel that "wonderful" in this case is subjective. Naraka is gorgeous, yes. Completely agreed. The hell bar looks wicked; I'd love to see it one day--when I choose to. But were I to have the life snuffed out of my glitch by someone when I didn't choose it, I'd be pretty bloody pissed off and that adventure would not be wonderful by any description, no matter how cool the place or funny the dialogue. Some people feel that mining in Ajaya is wonderful. I don't share that opinion, and it's my choice as to whether I go to Ajaya or not. Having an opt-in for the Kiss of Death would allow those that wish for a wonderful hell adventure the opportunity to get there super-fast, while sparing those of us that would prefer to save that wonder for another day.
And sorry but sending someone to a wonderful hell adventure is not killing in this game - it's travel.
If you've just logged in and you have your full energy budget of, say, 2000e and full mood, and some glitch who thinks this idea is 'fun' sidles up to you and death-kisses you and you are suddenly in hell without any energy or mood, and you're pooped -- well, No. With a capital N. This is a Stupid idea. With a capital S. Go play DarkEden.
Well having rarely posted ideas I think being called stupid etc is worse than going through a lovely stroll in hell. Just make it so you don't lose energy or what have you, or can only happen once a day. Jeez just trying to have some fun. Lighten up.
Non-consensual transportation/travel is the same as non-consensual anything.
New grief vectors are unwelcome.
A permission bit could be set, sure.
This does not make this idea anywhere awesome.
I regard this as in the housing-tax category of crap we do not want.
I think its a neat idea, in a way. There would have to be some retooling so it wouldn't be taken advantage of but I think people need to experience Naraka. Its one of the most amazing places in Ur, varied and intriguing. I don't really understand the people who are trying not to die, there are really no penalties for dying (this just isn't that kind of game).
There are no stupid ideas, this is a brain storming forum. Let's respect.
I'm not sure having a tool to murder other glitches is one I would like to see added, however some sort of suicide drink is an idea I'd like to see. It takes a long time to die with nono powder, having some sort of poision that works faster would be nice. That way it's completely voluntary, no one is being killed against their will.
Snarkle - it's an interesting idea; I like the play on words. However, as above, not sure there'd be enough time to get a kiss in. Agree with others - in that it feels a bit drastic and somewhat of an imposition upon another's game play.
You know, I saw this post this morning and thought that it was an interesting idea that would just need some tweaks to be implemented in a way that would address some of the problems with the way it's currently posed, most obviously to make it an opt-in thing. The other problem I saw was that drinking the wine kills you dead, which leaves precious little time for kisses.
But I do think the overall idea could be fun if done right!
@WalruZ: i don't think snarkles idea is stupid! In case you dont know, this is IDEAS FORUM. IDEAS. It doesn't mean that this feature is going to be implanted into the game, its just an idea! Lighten up, people.
I think it's a cool idea, and I figure that there might be a subset of Glitchen out there who would enjoy dong such things. Personally, though, I wouldn't want to take part in this. It's not like being transported a couple of streets over with full mood and energy - going to (and returning from) hell has a very drastic effect on ones ability to do things in game.
I can see this working if there was something like a user group, where only specifically opted-in members could affect one another. Then, I can see that it might add a new dimension to the gameplay. Walking around Ur with one eye on the other Glitchen in the street, wondering if they're going to send you to Naraka while you're trying to milk that butterfly. Perhaps even not be notified if one of the DBG's (Death Bringer Glitchen) appears in the street. I think that this would add a little extra frisson to the game.
I could perhaps see this expanding to include The Rook somehow. Maybe these DBG's could affect the rook fights in a negative manner?
There are ways that this could really work - http://www.glitch.com/forum/ideas/19658/ Rev Lightbringer suggested a cemetery - how about that is the only place the Kiss of Death would work? The vampire kiss ability could come on automatically in the cemetery but only there. ALso there could be something like Sunflowers outside the cemetery with the verb 'bask' which, if you activated them gave you a buff that protected you from the vampire's kiss. Or carrying your faded heart gave you protection. There should be warning signs outside explaining the risks. That way people who didn't want to go to hell could visit without risk but others could go there and have a bit of fun chasing each other around.
