Glitch app for Mac Users.

I got annoyed with having to run Glitch inside the browser I also use to surf the web. I treat it as a separate app, so I keep trying to tab out of it back into my browser. Luckily I happen to be an owner of the Fluid app, which let's you create "applications" out of webpages. Basically it creates a launchable link to Glitch that resides inside it's own application so you never have to worry about accidentally closing your Glitch tab.

You can download it from my Dropbox: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6227070/Glitch%20Beta.zip

P.S. it supports full screen mode in Lion!

  • Thanks, Skwid! Question for you, though, since I've never used Fluid/rarely use Safari: if I make plugin changes to my Safari install, will it affect the Glitch app, or should I do that then use Fluid to make a branch for myself?

(relatedly: curse my inability to run a straight install of anything on a regular basis.)

    >eta: Ohhhh, I see. Looks like that's a paid feature, along with lion fullscreen. Hrm! Well, a thing to think about at any rate.

  • Yeah, lots of good paid features there. It's only $4.99, so totally worth it imo.

  • You can also use "Prism".

It's free, and is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux!

  • Eh, for right now I think I'm going to stick with Chrome. There are problems with the flash client and chat, but so far Chrome seems to be best at not killing the entire browser process when Glitch bloats out/crashes Flash/etc.

  • Btw, Chome already supports turning webpages into "applications" in case anyone is wondering.
Click on the tool icon, go to Tools -> Create Application Shortcuts.
Then check whether you want the shortcut to appear on your Desktop, Start Menu or Taskbar
    and then click Create
and bam, Glitch is now an application.

  • The 'full screen in lion!' statement should really have a citation saying that it's not featured in the free version of Fluid.

  • Not sure if this helps but in Firefox you can right-click a tab and select "Pin as App Tab."

  • Thanks Jurassic re: Chrome into a Glitch app...I'm also going to stay with Chrome.

And Lion - ugh, can't upgrade because most of my work applications would also need upgarding which would cost me way too much.

Life is hard, computing sometimes fraught with sadness.

  • Is this for Safari 10.4.11
Posted 17 months ago by xoxJulie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Nope this application does not work for 10.4.11 damn

  • Thanks, Jurassic! I'll definitely try that next test.

    > eta: if you want to run the Chrome equivalent on mac, since it isn't available yet, try this: http://lifehacker.com/5611711/create-application-shortcuts-in-google-chrome-for-mac-with-a-shell-script (and http://www.lessannoyingcrm.com/blog/2010/08/149/Create+application+shortcuts+in+Google+Chrome+on+a+Mac if you are not versed in the ways of Terminal)

I'll be putting up a download in thread in a little bit, if Skwid doesn't mind. :)

  • Okay, Chrome non-fluid version get. This should work if you have Chrome running from the default /Applications folder. If you don't, you'll have to do the setup yourself from one of the two sites I linked. You'll also have to apply userscripts again after you start the app, but on the bright side, you don't need to pay for anything.

  • Skwid it stopped working, maybe because of the launch? Are you planning on sharing a new one? I would love it :)

  • You can download the Fluid app for free and create your own pretty easily (although there is a paid version for $5 that has a couple more features).
