Water, Water Everywhere...but not with an Irrigator 9000? Lame.

I recently spent the time running down the Irrigator 9000 to 0, for the "Water, Water Everywhere" quest.  It probably took longer than the regular Watering Can from full health.  But with the Irrigator 9000 empty and broken, I did not complete the quest.

When I bought a regular Watering Can in addition to my Irrigator 9000, it will not water despite with direct-click "water" action.  The Irrigator was subbed in, in its place.

That seems wrong.  Can we fix that?

  • Leave the Irrigator at home. That's what I did.

  • I had the exact same thing happen, and had to drop my irrigator in my house.
Seems very silly that it won't complete quest with Irrigator 9000, as those take a lot longer to break than the regular ones!

There are a few items that could do with being able to be used this way.
Like the other day I couldn't participate in a project phase because I have a grand ol grinder and not a regular grinder. They do the same thing, so why can't I use it?
It would be nice if items that do the same thing could count as doing the same thing across the board, in quests, in projects...

  • I also left the Irrigator home.  I spent a couple hours or more yesterday watering every tree in most of Ur with hardly any usage to the Irrigator.   I left it at home, bought the other can and did the Goal in less than two hours this morning (I also did some other things).

  • "When I bought a regular Watering Can in addition to my Irrigator 9000, it will not water despite with direct-click "water" action."

When you have two items that perform the same task, we automatically substitute the higher capacity one in there when you use the verb menu of the target or click the icon above the tree. When you drag a specific tool over the tree, or click the verb menu on the tool itself- in this case, a Watering Can, it will water it.

To be sure, the quest text does say to use a Watering Can which is different in name than the Irrigator 9000. But, I'll run it by the questmaster! Just note- quests should be telling you the exact tools you need for the quest.

Like the other day I couldn't participate in a project phase because I have a grand ol grinder and not a regular grinder.

Projects are laid out to use very specific tools.

  • That's ridiculous, Kevbob. I don't want to carry around the inferior version of a tool I paid much more for if I already own the higher version. Why would I want to clog my bags like that with two of everything?

Also: I'm in the same boat as Tiff. It took me a week or two of watering everything in sight to break it. I can't even repair the can because I'll die attempting it. If we can't get the quest completed, at least give us a gold star or something.

  • Im just telling you how it works moowi. This isn't really a bug, but I'm not saying the complaint is or isn't valid. I did say I'd bring it up with the quest master- this quest pre-dates the Irrigator 9000.

  • Unless we get much bigger bags, I'm not going to be dragging around all versions of all the tools, so I'm hoping the 'quest master' will understand that and allow us to use the better versions of the tools if that's what we have on hands.

  • We'll be making the Irrigator work on this soonish.  :)

  • Very glad this is an open discussion.  And that others have shared their experiences before I try my fancy grinder on stuff.  And, of course, glad to hear the Irrigator will work for the quest in the future.

In the meantime, I'll keep begging passersby if I can take their worn-down Watering Cans in exchange for a new, full one.

  • I had an Irrigator, donated it & bought a regular can to complete the quest. Now I'm all done and it seems like I can't buy it anymore from the gardening vendor.  Didn't see that in the change logs & find it rather frustrating.

That being said if anyone has one to sell/trade, let me know.
