Multiplayer Idea's

I read a topic in general about the lack of multiplayer in the game at the moment so I thought I would post some idea's here

1. A new breed of recipes that require more than one person to make. e.g Large soups or cakes, these could have buffs, or greater double gains. that require 2 people to have the correct skill, and they must visit a new type of tool which would be a bigger static tool inside a street, like a caldron or a oven or something. or these could be purchased for currants to put in a house.

2. as the game progesses there could be new materials to *upgrade houses* or new types of bigger houses that require these materials. the materials would be like Giant trees or a different type of metal / rock which requires more than 1 person to actually start to mine it. making the whole gathering side of things a bit less solo play..

3. there Could be some kind of event or fun / sports place. that are like the competition quests for racing a person. a dedicated street with a race instructor that when X amount of players talk to him to join, say 5 for example. than you will be loaded into a race screen. there could be prices for first place currants. xp etc. but you could have to pay a fee to enter the race. and trophies for winning X amount of races trophies for entering X amount

4. going off the first Idea there could be *secret gardens* or doors that require 2 keys or more than 2 keys. only 1 key per person can be used to open it and inside are giant / bigger types of  foods / trees to harvest that require more than 1 person to actually harvest for foods or mine the materials required for making the bigger multiplayer recipes

4. going off the last one. on certain days there could be sports events on X day of the month or week in game where there is a league of races or an activitve. so e.g if 100 people would enter there could be 5 players per race. thats 20 races all together than the top 3 go into a new race and so on until there is 1 race left. and the top 10 or so players get a prize with a top prize like  a trophie for coming 3rd 2nd 1st in X weeks global glitch race.

I will have a proper think and post some more indepth later

  • Love the idea of a "sports arena" for competition!
    New area...new project!

Also group harvesting would be cool - so long as it isn't a required item - I think your idea of larger than life cherries or something would be best - that way no one is obligated to be more social if they don't want to be.

Building your own house...fun fun fun!

  • As long as it's optional and you can play the game without having to join forces with someone to get essential items/skills. There will always be people who don't want to socialize with others to achieve something in a game.

  • My problem with multiplayer activities is when they turn into the sort of Facebook game that requires me to constantly bother my friends list to help me build a barn or whatever. This is why I refused to play games like Farmville.

  • Fussycat, the thread that I believe Lt is referencing talks about how multiplayer basically is optional already and there is no real reason to play with others. Yes, there will always be people who don't want to socialize to achieve something in a game, but as Glitch claims to be a massive multi-player game, those players probably aren't the target demographic.

  • yeh imo if you want to play games solo 24/7 you should be playing out the box stand alone games. the point of mmos is to be playing around / with other players and so far this is lacking alot of that I think you *should be forced* to do some multiplayer things. or be limited in what you can do solo play, otherwise why bother playing an online game at all. it turns into a game with a chatroom.

it would be like playing world of warcraft. and expecting to be able to do 24 man dungeons, by yourself because you dont want to play a mmo with others. of course its understood people dont want to *always* play with others. but there should be a limit to what could be achieved compared to actually taking part.

think of mmo games like a business, 1 man can run a business on his own but to a certain scale, to really achieve and make a bigger difference that business needs more than 1 employee.

I myself played alone but because there was nothing much to force me to do otherwise.

and yes lyndon my post was pointed towards the link you just posted

  • I just thought of another cool way to encourage player interaction: a quest that pops up after buying your first house to host a party there, where you must have at least a certain number of players in your house all at once. The party guests could also get a share of the rewards. This could be a recurring quest (maybe with the number of required guests increasing each time), or there could be a "party mode" that is triggered when there are more players in a home than some number (5 or whatever). In party mode, all players in the home would get some reward, like a small amount of constantly increasing mood, energy, and experience within some time limit. There should be a cool-down period, perhaps only one party allowed per game day, so this feature isn't abused.

By the way, I love the idea of special game days (akin to the Olympics).

  • Oh I'm not saying that everything should be available for solo play. Taking your example of WoW, I do like playing it on my own, soloing the lower level dungeons, but I'm also well aware that I won't be able to get the end game gear alone. What I'm saying that if I did feel anti-social I should be able to play for any length of time without being *forced* into co-operation. As in, no "you can't level up until you've completed this quest together with 5 other players". I would like to be able to choose *when* I want to play with others.

  • I love all the ideas :D

At least in my experience, the thing that keeps me logging onto an online game are the people there, and I think glitch should encourage group-work if it's in their interest to have more long-term players.
Another idea is possibly to upgrade the party system them have a little bit, the only thing it seems to do is open a chat. An indicator on your map of where everyone else in the party is would be cool. Also, while we're on the topic of WoW, maybe even have the ability to split materials you harvest/mine/nibble automatically like how they divide loot in WoW. Maybe you need to farm both butterfly milk and meat, which you could do faster with friends? I don't know, just a random thought xD
