18 Changes in Rough Order of Preference

1.  Be able to temporarily turn off interacting with people.  Very often I’m clicking enter to do an action and a person gets in the way and I end up IMing them.
2.  Allow us to use only one hand on the keyboard.  Right now if I use the awsd position my hand can’t hit enter so I have to take my hand off my mouse to hit the right enter.  If I use the arrow keys then I can hit enter, but I can’t hit space to jump, nor press c to move camera.  What I’d like best would be for a key around awsd such as e to function as enter so I don’t have to take my other hand off my mouse.
3.  Show our progress towards achievements.  For example I want to know how many more people I need to IM for that badge.  Or how many jumps I need until the next badge, etc.
4.  Be able to turn off the feed option for mainly batterflies, though pigs would also be nice.  I keep accidentally giving my allspice to them when they get in the way of my mining action.
5.  Be able to turn off the rename option on animals.  I don’t care about naming animals and it gets in the way when trying to nibble pigs or squeeze chickens or on batterflies while mining.  I’ve probably renamed over a hundred animals “d” or “a” since that was the direction I was trying to move when the naming screen came up and I don’t care enough to change that.
6.  Increase the range of the Pick’s mine option.  If I can hit enter twice to mine I should be able to use the pick while clicking to mine.  When a rock isn’t on a flat surface the mining action will often move me to a side of the rock and be too far for me to use the pick to mine, though with enter I can still select it.  This most often happens when on lower ground than a rock on a slope.
7.  Allow us to organize our bags while doing other actions.  It’d be really nice t be able to do this such as while mining to make it a lot less monotonous.
8.  Be able to turn off the black notification boxes in the top left since there is never anything important in them, I never read them, and when I do a bunch of actions they can block a significant portion of the screen sometimes making it so I can’t click on the street post.
9.  When standing next to two objects have the game open the menu of the one with more options left.  An example of this is with all the spice trees right next to each other in Ix where I have to either click on them to know which one I’m acting on, or get stuck with a menu with no options available popping up when I hit enter.
10.  Have a different color surround an object when there are no ways for you to interact with it.  For example after I’ve done all interaction options with a tree have it be surrounded by grey rather than blue so I don’t have to open up the menu to check.  Would be really useful for butterflies and other animals that move around a lot.
11.  Add a few more spots to the toolbox so it is actually better than a bigger bag and can actually contain most or all of my tools.  I carry around about 25 tools and It would be great for them to fit in the toolbox and not overflow into my second bag.
12.  Being able to spend emblems to speed skills is nice, but I’d still like an option to refuse getting an emblem and just have the favor stop at one less than the emblem wasting the rest.  Now that we can put in specific quantities this is a bigger deal since in order to maximize how much I can spend to speed a skill up I keep shrines at 1 less than emblem, but then if I accidentally gain a level, or more commonly accidentally gain a badge that gives favor with that giant, a lot (700 favor in the case that just happened to me) goes to waste.
13.  Stop street loading time from decreasing our timers.  I often waste almost a quarter of my earthshaker time loading streets and maybe a minute of my ancestral lands time loading streets.
14.  Add a giants category to our profile page which lists how much favor we have with each giant.  Not the amount shown on the leaderboards, but the amount we would see if we went to that giant’s shrine.  It’d also be nice to show that out of however much is needed for the next emblem.
15.  Be able to set filters on bags, such as all food goes to a certain one.  All gems go to another, and all ore goes to another.  This could either be by specific items, or by preset lists TS sets, or allow us to make our own custom sets of objects that go into a specific bag.
16.  Let us organize our cabinets and bags by being able to switch the spots items are in, such as by dragging one over another.  I’d especially like to be able to order my bigger bags without having to drop one and using that one spot move them into the order I want.
17.  Like the remote meat collectors fill up completely before filling up the next, have one pig feeder be completely used before the next one starts getting eaten from.  This way I won’t have to go through all my feeders adding just a few pieces of food and can just fill one if they’ve eater less than 80.
18.  On the skills page, when we hover over the skill we are learning at the top, have the info menu pop up like it does on any of the skills in the skill tree.  I use this for finding out which giants are affiliated with a skill and it’d be nicer to be able to just hover over the bar at the top instead of having to find the skill in the skill tree and hover over it.

  • Very long, but I read it anyway.  All good points.

  • 12 is already in the game.  If you go over and get an emblem you can spend that emblem for 1000 favor points toward learning speed.

  • If you read more than the first 10 words of 12 you'll see what I'd like isn't already ingame...

  • 14 - very much.

And yeah - bag filters. My inventory is so clunky already.

  • I like 10, although as written it wouldn't be so very useful for butterflies, since when I'm done with a butterfly, they still have sing, name/rename, and usually massage available.

    +1 to 13 through 16 inclusive.

  • I just gave up on trying to keep a spreadsheet listing how much favor I have with each of the giants.  It takes quite a bit of work to keep track of. Maybe the familiar can keep track of it so we can see it ingame as well as on our profile page?

  • 42 Emblems now even after spending a few on speeding skills.  Maybe a quarter of them accidentally gotten.  So to make this not just a thinly disguised bump;

    19.  Allow local chat to be filtered so it only shows other players talking and not all the game info.

  • All of these +1. I wish the devs would respond. Are they even reading these ideas? I'd like to think they are, but it's just a bunch of us players responding in here.

  • They're reading.  They even read all the "Oh noes, the game's closed!  Let's play charades!  Murbleflurp!"  sort of stuff, they're certainly reading this.

  • +1 to this, but with preference for ones which would be particularly handy and hopefully straightforward to implement: 2, 3, 7, 11 and especially 14.

  • I was mining in AB today and I'm thinking increasing the pick's range should be higher up on the list since it was so annoying to keep opening IMs with people if I used enter, but being forced to most of the time because the pick couldn't see the rock even if enter could.

  • +1 -> +18

Everything! Very good ideas for a more enjoyable game :)

  • I can't think of anything today to disguise this bump.

  • I know it's a pain, but this would've been better put into 18 different posts so people can respond to them individually, I don't think they can really process these like this, so your feedback may come to naught.

I definitely think the butterfly menu could use some rearranging so that massage and then milk are the default options the first and second time you select them.  It'd be less clicking for most of us.

But, I never double or triple enter without a pause and a look first because there are all sorts of problems that come from this, so many of these problems can be solved just by slowing down a little.

    13 is really needed!

  • 2. Agreed. Either E or Left Shift. For E, you have to take your hand off of D, but the index finger does keypresses faster. For L.Shift, you can keep your other fingers on the directional buttons, but the pinky doesn't press the button as fast and might get tired after a while. Maybe both, since neither seem to have a function right now.

4, 5. Agreed. I'd like a way to turn off Sing To for Butterflies and Name/Rename for all the creatures. The ability to toggle on or off the Feed command for Pigs and Batterflies would also be helpful, and would be a good solution to this thread: www.glitch.com/forum/ideas/...

    9. It sounds like your idea would work out. I tried to think of a situation where this wouldn't be a preferable solution, but I couldn't think of one. Things do need to get better for the selection mechanic. When I'm in Ix between two Spice trees, it brings up a selection between the two trees and I can never be sure which is which. God forbid there are like 4+ pigs in one place and one hasn't been nibbled. That's a pain.

I also support all of your other suggestions. Here's one of my own:

    20. The mouse arrow should no longer highlight options/items/objects while stationary.

Occasionally, I'll be punished for leaving the mouse on the playing field by having it select something that I didn't want to do because a menu ended up in the wrong place.

For example, I'm approaching a Pig and would like to Nibble it. It requires 4 presses of Enter to Pet twice, and then 2 presses to Nibble. I know this. What I didn't expect is that the context menu for the pig would open up underneath my mouse arrow (which I'm not using at the moment - it's stationary). Instead of the bottom option being selected (pet), my presses of enter now do something else. This occasionally results in feeding an entire stack of food to a pig by accident when the mouse arrow happens to be over the "Feed" option (see the thread I linked above).

Or you can be approaching a sign to change levels. The sign has more than one path, but you see that the zone you want is the top one, so you'll just hit enter twice. Except you didn't notice that the mouse arrow, sitting there unused, happened to end up over one of the other zone arrows, and after you pressed enter once, the mouse highlighted the wrong zone and you ended up entering a zone you didn't mean to.

    Hopefully you get my meaning.

  • Bump :)
Posted 14 months ago by Hameigh Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You've got some great ideas here.  My take on a few of them:

    1) Or have it select people last. Mining around other people gets irritating.

    2) Big yes, I get a shoulder ache when I play Glitch because the UI isn't designed for being able to not switch off the mouse. To mitigate this I actually mainly play keyboard-only, but there's a few things that aren't as easy with the kb.

    3) I don't personally agree with this. what I would like to see, though, is progress towards quests that you've started that have a limited time to complete them.  all we see now is a countdown bar without how close we are.

4-5) Note that you can ESC out of feeding and renaming animals.

    6) imo the right fix here is to not cause you to move off to one side when you use your pick. the main problem is that it moves you so far that you can't pick on the same rock the next time around.

    7-10) Yes. :)

    11) You can always carry two toolboxes... that said, it's weird they cost so much more than large bags yet are the same size.

    12-20) Yes please!
Posted 14 months ago by mirth Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, the toolboxes seems strange. You pay a lot more and lose the ability to place anything but tools in it in exchange for what, a different looking sprite? :|

Also, I hope they come up with a way to keep people from accidentally donating items or feeding entire stacks of items to animals. A lot of the farming revolves around "spam enter" gameplay, but every so often it blows up in our faces, with the worst case being accidentally donating items or feeding entire stacks of food to animals. I myself have this happen about once per day. I also see people complaining about it in global a decent amount and there have been several topics about it.

Personally, I'd just make the feeding and donating item selection grid respond only to mouse clicks, with the exception of ESC to close the window, if possible. That should make it so people can't donate/feed accidentally when spamming enter. That menu isn't particularly keyboard-friendly anyway, so I use my mouse when using it on purpose. Other ideas can be found in various topics on these forums.

  • Most of these would be great.  I don't have all the trouble you do with accidentally clicking on things, but I can see how annoying it would be.

    bumping that for you ;)
Posted 13 months ago by Lemo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Some of the difficulty is probably deliberate. Going to Hell because you lost the last bit of energy by accidentally singing to a butterfly ... it's kinda funny. And I've heard there is a badge if you go to Hell enough times. I'm enjoying the retro King's Quest Eleventy feel of it.

    #1 4 5 6 7 9 10 12 13 14 17 - Making Glitch into a high-speed strip-mining, harvesting, feedlot, levelling up machine sounds a bit boring.

#2 - You can achieve your key-board-specific requests by re-mapping the keys to suit your needs, if your operating system allows it.

#3 14 - I personally like the surprise of it.

#7 - Shuffling inventory while doing a dangerous task like mining should be possible, but like all multi-tasking it should have a speed de-buff and for a dangerous activity, have the possibility for a fatal accident happening while your attention is elsewhere.

    #8 - Sounds like a good idea.

#9 - It would be annoying to have it switch from the tree I'm tending to a passing butterfly I am not interested in. And having menus pop up automatically if I pause near objects would be annoying as hell. When I want a menu, I'll click on something.

#10 - That's what naming piggies and butterflies is for.

#11 - Definitely. If it claims to be a toolbox, it should hold ALL my tools. Or at least have more slots than the Bigger Bag that is cheaper.

#13 - It might be possible to pause the drink timer when you click on a street name to change locations, and restart it when you make any game-related action such as moving the mouse or clicking a key. BUT, that would make it possible for your cat to  step on the keyboard and spill your virtual drink.

#15 16 - Inventory is a PITA. These would definitely help all players.

    #18 - convenient
