Ranches, Farms, Orchards and Greenhouses!

Simple suggestions here: Homes (probably costing 75-100k) that allow you to specialize in specific parts of the farming/subsistence areas of Glitch.

Ranch - Specializing in raising animals, allowing a glitch to raise at least twice the normal amount of animals, with very little space for gardening/trees.

Farm - Specializing in raising crops, allowing a glitch to raise/harvest 2-2.5 times as much of the various plants in Ur, with very little space for animals/trees.

Orchard - Specializing in growing Trees/Spice & Gas Plants, allowing a glitch to grow 1.5-2 times as many Trees, with little to moderate space for animals/crops.

Greenhouses - Specializing in growing herbs, allowing a glitch to raise about 2 times as much herbs as the current housing offers, with little space for animals/trees.

These would provide better "money sinks" for wealthy Glitchen.

A short time after they were implemented I would suggest dropping the vendor price of meats/crops/harvested materials.  This would encourage glitches to make better use of the AH, since we would be able to farm these materials  more steadily.

The favor may need reworked as well, to be slightly higher than the current ratio of favor to value (1:10 I think).  Still being able to donate for decent favor would be nice however, at current, I sell most of my harvested materials (or donate them) since the sell price is typically higher/the same as the AH value.

After carefully watching certain goods on the AH (meats, cheeses, certain meals) I've noticed that many Glitchen don't even bother farming their own goods, they simply wait on the AH price to drop below the market value, buy, then resell to a vendor.

  • Rather than plantations, which have obvious historical issues, might I suggest a greenhouse?
    Serves the same purpose.
    Otherwise, love these ideas.

  • I could see disagreeing with the term "plantation" based off of historical issues.  Just wanted to focus on something along the lines of a plantation or greenhouse, so greenhouse works just as well.

One way or the other, we need the ability to farm in a more focused manner!

  • Maybe call them ranches, farms, and orchards? And if the farms could only grow crops, there could be properties than only grow herbs--greenhouses.

  • Thanks to Crashtestpilot and Karibean for the ideas on different names/housing types!  I went ahead and updated the main post =)

  • And we, of course, saw that, and thank you!

  • I think the next thing I'd add to this would be this question:
Does it have to be a different housing type?
Or, let's say there's two ways to skin this cat:
    1) would be your suggestion, ie specialized housing types.
    and!
    2) Accessories or add-ons to your EXISTING home.
IE,  a) The ability to add a patch.
          b)  The ability to MODIFY a patch (transform into a DARK patch, say)
          c) The ability to add a plot.
          d) The ability to MODIFY a plot (ie, convert from crop plot to herb plot).
          e) The ability to add an array of plots (Say, greenhouse) to an existing home (like the above, but bigger.)

  • Crash, I have thought of being able to pay to add more plots or patches and more space for animals.  In the end, I'd like to see both.  Big, specialized housing types that provide players with different incentives, as well as the ability to add/remove/modify existing features.  Either would be great money sinks (which is always a bonus for developers), and would provide players with better variety/customization in housing.

  • I love these ideas.  I would love to expand my home over and over making it bigger and cooler with more of what I need on hand all the time.

However....with more glitch spending time in home.....would they invite rook to the neglected streets?  And would more rook attacks be bad? or inspire more groups and community?

I think these additions to housing are a great idea and I like that it provides a little buffer from the pig theft, tree wars  etc.  At least I could provide the basics for myself before going out to find where all the bubble trees and pigs migrated to.
