Fast levelling

I'm starting to think about plans for the official launch, and how to get my character up to fighting shape quickly.

I've noticed people running around with levels in the upper 40s, 50s, etc. I seem to take, on average, a full day of playing to progress to a new level, and this is rapidly slowing down. What strategies are there to level quickly?

  • I don't know how much levels matter in game, maybe someone will know, but I found that I can do a lot of what I want and I am still low level. It seems that skills are more important but I could be completely wrong :-P

  • Levels are basically irrelevant... Skills are what matters :D

  • Levels are basically irrelevant, which is why I haven't worried about this till now. Level does affect how much energy you have though, and having only a few hundred at a time can put a real damper on things.

  • Shrine donations seem to give amazing XP, compared to just about everything else in game.

  • Leveling is all about XP.  Shrine donations are a great way to get XP, especially if you dump in a ton of something and are lucky enough to get an 18k xp payout.  I suspect these are becoming more rare though, as during this beta I've donated a ton of something only to hit the favor wall and then only get 60xp.  But a sure bet is to carefully donate in lots with EHSP to get to max favor.  For example, a lot of 500 meat or 5 smelters - you're bound to get a fat lot of xp doing that.  Tossing in one of this and one of that, less so.  Hit every single type of shrine in a game day, when the new day starts, go visit them all again.

    Other high XP things:
    - sno cones
    - gurly drinks and singing to butterflies
    - save lots of emblems and 'consider' them once day
    - there are a few high value xp quoins around
    - achievements, quests and projects dole out xp, too

Also, leveling is really only good for a larger energy tank.  There is no other merit to having a high level, other than the fat energy tank.  Carry around enough food that stacks well, and you'll be fine.

  • Added to what zeeberk says at the end, the fat energy tank has a related TP cost beause teleporting costs a % of your energy. so a basic TP1 teleport will cost a 1000xp tank 250xp but with a 400 tank will only cost 100 xp.

  • XP quoins in Baqala are worth much more than the regular ones.  And xp is not something the jujus can steal from you!

  • Killing two birds with one stone, I've been hitting the XP limits by visiting new streets. The payouts 48 - 65xp are pretty great. I can fill up half a level just by doing that and I got my little badge yesterday.

  • i'm not really into leveling, but it happens All The Time for me because i am into speeding up my learning time when tests are open and i throw everything into shrines. that jumps my xp so much, i barely know what to do with it, and up my levels go.

  • I think what you are seeing too was earlier leveling since last reset that was done with fewer of the current restrictions (especially shrine donations).  It will be interesting to see the levels after reset with the current rules in place...though if they are finally open 24/7, they could be just as high.

  • I've been focusing on learning by donating to Shrines, which has the nice side affect of bumping XP. The problem is, the best thing to donate (so far) are gems, which you get from mining, which is energy intensive.

I after the reset, I'm going to focus on:

    * Learning to make EarthShakers (makes mining free)
    * Learning to make Shrine Powder (hallowed is of course best) to double or triple up donation value
    * Then mine, mine, mine until I can get a house so I can grow my own food.

I think that will make things more efficient :-)

  • Just a quick note - Skippy, you can't make Earthshakers until you get higher level cocktail skills...but you can buy them from Helga in Ix.

  • Quests really do give quite a bit XP. There's also finding new things, exploring new places, and getting new achievements. Lots of quoins are good too. The mundane things like watering trees and squeezing chickens don't seem much, but in the long-term they go a long way.

I don't really have a strategy for XP though, actually... I'm more concerned with skills and getting as much moolah as possible.

  • Ya,  b3achy, I forgot to note I would need to shake up a storm to get the ability to make earthshakers.

I still haven't gotten the Flaming Humbaba recipe yet, despite spending a lot of time mixing up drinks to try and get there. Good side affect: I made lots of Girly Drinks, which I could then use to sing to butterflies without consuming XP.

  • Generally, for me, I seem to earn 2X the amount of energy I spend in a day in terms of XP. I cook a lot, and I love collecting XP quoins. And, I donate quite a lot too. Normally I donate about 500+ V, very stinky cheese in one fell swoop coupled with EHP, so I generally get a huge load of XP. I also often go the lazy route and buy a huge load of sno cones. But, quickly losing the will to level because with the next level I'll probably have 1000+ energy and that should more or less be enough.

  • @Jarhaven XP payouts for visiting new streets stop when you've visited more than 500 streets. :[

  • Mining gives me a steady and somewhat elevated flow of XP and currant income. On top of that, mining gets me valuable gems and sparkly which gets me pretty decent rewards from shrines.

  • I like going to the mines now it will be interesting once the game goes public how much in fighting will occur.   The mines help acquire skills quick when you donate most of your minerals to the shrines as it speeds up the learning process by leaps and bounds.  In the process you level up really quick.  Leveling up is as important as those emblems you get by mistake, nice to have the larger energy base but expensive when teleporting.  Wish there was something you could do with the emblems, can't put them with your trophies or hang them on a wall.  Emblems should have a place to be hung and a better purpose.  We don't need more than one from each God.

Not sure what "fighting" you are referring to.  More than one person can mine a rock, and when that happens, the rock gives out more chunks than either person could get alone.

    There's nothing to fight over.

  • There is something you can do with your emblems: consider, caress and contemplate each of them once a day for xp, energy and mood. :)

  • but why?
It's about the journey, not the destination.

  • @Windborn I think the whole co-op mining argument has been pretty much beaten to a bloody pulp in the forums. Can people agree to disagree on that, at least in threads that have nothing to do with it?

I realize I'm part of the problem and not the solution with this post, but I think it needs to be said.
