I'm sure we'll be compensated for learning the BL skills. And we will be able to spend imagination to upgrade our learning time in some fashion similar to what BL did.
im guessing that with better learning gone some of the character upgrades they are talking about might be things to do with being able to learn faster maybe
Maybe that is a good thing ... not sure if it will stay like that though. But maybe harder would mean something to work for more and longer amounts of fun for newer players.
I have no clue but if it does stay I am sure there is a good reason.
"But maybe harder would mean something to work for more and longer amounts of fun for newer players. "
I put a ridiculous amount of effort into learning the skills, up to and including setting alarms for 4 in the morning so I could wake up and change the skill...
I know, I know, sunk costs and everything, but If skills from here on out is going to be ridiculously long to learn, am not going to be super happy :P
edit: and I don't see how that's fun! but maybe just me. WHO CAN SAY
yes that last mining skill for me is now 94 days! I sincerely hope that is some kinda mis print ... ;(
My furniture making 2 , which i was in progress of learning, seems to be the same though on the progress bar- BUT if i hover cursor over it in the skill description then its gone up also to 37 days. ...sigh..
Didn't Stoot say that the classical way of learning skills we're used to is going away to be replaced by something else entirely? Don't worry about it until you see what's in store, I would say [sitting comfortably from my perch with all skills learned].
Skill time is horrible now. I was working on blockmaking and it jumped from 5 days to 16. Not going to be happy at all if it takes me months to learn a newly released skill.
I got told I got upgrades to my brain capacity, but my skill learning time hasn't changed at all. Unless the massively expanded time frame already took those upgrades to brain capacity into account, which would make me even sadder :(
edit: spotlightgirl, I can still Unlearn things too. Not that I want to.
I hate long time to learn new skills but I love learning new skills. It gets real boring when you don't have something new to learn. Maybe we need BA and PHD's in certain skills.
@Not A Brontosaurus
I got two Brain Capacity upgrades back to back, so my brain should technically be expended by 8 skills, yet no learning time reduction, too. =\
Once the learning penalty kicks in, it compounds. It doesn't rise at a linear rate.
Try this. Unlearn ALL cooking (and distilling.) It doesn't take all that long and you can buy food off the auctions if you need it. Look at the effect this has on your remaining learning times. See?
Now, look at that skills chart and think long and hard about what you do, and if you really need to do all of it. I don't cook anymore, nor do I bother with animals. My M4 learning time is 9.5 days - except I already have it.
Okay, the point may have already been made before, but I haven't seen it. Last night I immediately started TM II, which had a learn time of 20+ days. I'm already down to 12 days, 10 hours (and change) remaining, with only a few hours shaved off from donated favor.. It has to be going by game days, not real-time days.
Edit: Unless I'm missing something, of course. But even a 5% penalty on top of, what, 13ish real-time days wouldn't be 20 days, 3 hrs, 3 mins. Also, I suck at math done in my head.
There was a bug with the Brain Capacity upgrades not properly effecting skill learning times. This should be fixed now. How long do the skills take now?
Woohoo, new skills page! Will we also be able to track the upgrades we've bought, by type? It's a little hard to get a good sense of our upgrade "profile" by looking at that long list.
Oh, they look great now. I've already dumped a lot into Brain Capacity and it certainly shows. I have all skills learned but the new one and a brain capacity of 64. FMII shows it would be 15 days, TPV 28 days, AK7 11 days, etc.
Furnituremaking was queued and I had already started learning that (maybe before some of the upgrades too) and nothing's changed on its time - 37 days. Shouldn't that have dropped to less time?
Actually I don't think my brain capacity has increased as much as the cards I bought. I have +16 brain capacity in upgrades, but my bc is 53 and before now it was 40-something. Maybe I'm misunderstanding how they work?
It looks like the penalty for exceeding brain capacity has gone from 3% to 5% per skill. Given that it's exponential, that makes a huge difference for those who had lots of skills learned.
I'm in the process of learning TR2, and either through changes, bug fixes, or card purchases, hovering over the skill says it should less time than is currently on the clock.
I don't seem to be able to stop learning it, so do I have to just wait it out?
Why did the devs have to increase EVERYTHING!!!!! MY levitation skill went from 12 hrs to 2 days, and why? Why would people do this??????? What was wrong with the old skill times?????? PLease change, or at least explain!
"Upgrades given during conversion
In addition to the upgrades noted below, at the time of conversion a number of energy tank, quoin multiplier and brain capacity upgrades were automatically purchased for **** The number of each was based on their character's level and how many of the old "better learning" skills they had."
Look on your profile right at the bottom of your upgrades, it tells you what you got at the switch. So we have.
@Misty: The new system is basically, the smaller your brain capacity is, the longer your learning time. Buy Brain Capacity upgrade cards = less learning time. Your Brain Capacity at the switch was determined by how many Better Learning skills you learned. I think.
Misty Power --- trying using all the imagination that TS has given to you to buy some upgrades. Soon enough all of the 'increased' everything will go back to normal, OR even lower. Just take some time to understand the new system. It's still in place, it's still the same, it's just a new way of looking at it.
It's just the base using the new img system instead of the xp system (in which you didn't get to spend anything you earned). Now they are giving you a chance to pick and choose the things you care about in game using the xp (now, img) that you have already earned! So if the skill learning matters to you, get upgrades, and BLAM! Back to somewhat newnormal!
They definitely explain. Initially it looks like more, but really you are still okay. !!!!!????????!!!!!!!!!
Don't buy Brain Capacity upgrade cards until later in the week. stoot has said they are going to recall all those cards and re-do that whole set of skills.
"There were many problems! The biggest/most obvious was the 16,000 vs 160,000 typo, but there were others: the tiering increases were too steep, the prices were probably a little too high, we didn't think of how to do the bulk discounting until we had already released, an oversight in the rules meant the intended cap of 60 was not enforced … and, most of all, we didn't explain them well enough (or get the new skills page up, which would have helped).
So, it is quite likely that on Monday we're going to refund ALL brain capacity upgrade purchases are revert people back to where they were after conversion. Details to follow, but in the meantime, don't get too deep into the analysis of the numbers :)" -stoot
