What I discovered about the Dedicated Restorationizer badge. Possibly.

So there I was, clever me, chasing after the Dedicated Restorationizer badge. You know, the one where you have to restore the same resource 20 times over.
My first thought was, of course, to stock up on Wine of the Dead to wear said resource down in a puff (or pour), then restore it, and so on.

Well, it would seem that this strategy doesn't work after all. The Wine probably doesn't trigger whatever is needed, so I just wasted lots of time and stuff after it.

Unless the badge is just late (hey, it can happen!).

Can anybody confirm or dismiss the above?

  • The answer is in the description itself - to wear out and restore and not pour wine of the dead and restore. :D

  • Just a thought -- a patch may be one of the easiest to do this with, just poison the tree on occasion, the underlying patch will likely be worn out.

  • WOTD does not work towards this badge. :P

  • As of about a month or so ago (or longer) this badge doesn't work for patches (that may have changed). I know because I restored plenty of them and didn't get the badge for any of them. It's best to use a garden, fireflies, or barnacles, whatever you need to harvest a ton of.

  • @Ayasta: The badge is not for restoring 20 of the same type of resource but the exact same resource 20 times. It takes a surprisingly long time to wear a tree patch out and I doubt there has been enough time since the badge was instigated to wear out a tree patch and restore it 20 times. So my question  to you is - Are you quite sure you Restored the exact same tree patch over 20 times?

  • Yes, I know, and that's what I did. The same patch over and over again. I did for 5 times (because that's the first badge) and it didn't pop up. It popped up when I restored my large herb garden though.

  • Quote: "Wore out and restored the same cultivated item 20 times"

So probably not rocks, but just trees and gardens?

Barnacles, Fireflies, and Jellasics may not count.  Don't know.

  • To add to the knowledge: I did my test with a dirt patch.

  • Fireflies count, a friend of mine did the badges with fireflies.

  • Ah sorry a, we have a semantics confusion here. Patches are for trees, a dirt pile is, well, a pile and not a patch

I have no idea how difficult it is to wear out a dirt pile. I just know it takes a long time to wear out a tree patch

  • @WallyMcBeal: A "cultivated item" is any item created in your yard or street with the cultivate menu.  In theory, all of your examples should count.

  • @Ayasta, how did you wear out your tree patch so fast?  Earlier in the summer there was some discussion of the difficulty in wearing out a tree on a home street --  iirc, it was theoretically possible if you only harvested and never watered/petted?    Does that really work?  None of my trees has ever worn out; I've restored everything else multiple times.

  • trees do not wear out, the underlying patch wears out.  Last I checked it wears out fairly quickly, much more quickly than it did during testing though that could have been changed; however, the patch wearing out no longer causes the tree to die.

  • I earned this badge about a week and half ago and so it is definitely working.

It cannot be done using wine of the dead as that would be too easy.

I experimented with a few things and I found the easiest was a small 4 plot crop garden in my backyard and grew spinach. It was about 17 - 20 plantings before it needed restoring each time.

Tatanka Pie earned this badge a couple of weeks back and may also be able to provide advice about what resource she restored.

I used guano everytime and planting potions from about half way through when I started to get tired/bored

  • patches wear out fairly quickly, but the tree that's in them won't die unless you put tree poison on it. If you poison the tree, then instead of being able to plant a new see you have to restore the worn out patch. Just go into cultivate mode to see if the patch is worn out yet.

  • I wore out quite a few patches when I was working on Paul Bunions. Poison, chop down the dead tree, plant a new one, pet/water/harvest, poison again was my strategy, but like I said, I don't know if patches work for the badge because I'm pretty sure I wore out one of my patches more than 5x (and someone else had told me they tried the same thing) and the badge didn't ding. Of course this was one or two months ago (more or less) and it may or may not be fixed.

  • I remember someone saying a while back that tree's didn't count towards the restoration
badge. It would be good to have some confirmation as that would be the easiest method

  • I used guano'd purple to get the badge, and despite having worn out quite a few patches during my Paul Bunions grinding, it was a lot faster than trying to wear out patches again.
