Glitch Cookbook

In between playing Glitch and writing software, I'm also quite fond of cooking. As you all know, cooking plays a significant role in Glitch, and there are many recipes for meals to be found. So, I've decided to set myself a task - namely to cook real-life equivalents of all the various food and drink recipes found in Glitch.

To document this process, I've set up a new blog: Glitch Cookbook. In it, I'll provide full recipes and photos for all of the dishes I make. I plan to post regularly to it - I'm aiming for at least one dish a week, and hopefully more. There's an awful lot to get through, so this project might take some time.

To kick things off, I chose a couple of easy options, and started with Proper Rice and Fried Rice. I guess next week, I should try something a little more challenging...

If you'd like to follow my progress through the cuisine of Ur, please do come over and join me. Even better, try out the recipes yourselves and let me know how they work out in the comments.

  • This is quite wonderful.  For supper yesterday, I made a version of messy fry up and called it that when I served it! I will follow your progress and certainly make some of your recipies!

Messy fry up is easy - chopped some meat up (I used leftover turkey).  Crisp it up in a wide fry pan with a little butter (not needed if your meat has any fat in it).  Then add a chopped onion and a sliced carrot.  Once the veggies have browned a little, add two minced potatoes (smaller pieces than the veggies)..  Partially cover and leave for 10 minutes.  Do your best to flip it - but this is messy fry up so don't worry.  Partially cover and let cook for another 10 minutes.  This needs a lot of salt.  A yummy cold day supper dish.

  • There was a thread along this idea at some point, but I can't find it when I search.

Not that I'm calling your idea unoriginal, just that there was a few recipes in that thread you might want to try.  If anyone else remembers that thread, HALP!

    :)

  • This is a fun idea , although I think there are certainly some recipes you should stay away from - like Earthshakers! Onion in my drink? I don't think so.

I look forward to seeing what you make in the future.

  • I plan to make them all, even Earthshakers :-)

That one might need a little careful consideration though...

  • Cupcake had a thread going with her attempts at this.

  • There have been a few threads posting recipes and there are at least a couple of groups on the subject. They're all worthy in their own right and I'm not trying to compete with them. This is simply a personal challenge that I've set for myself, and I thought people might like to observe my progress.

  • You are so full of WIN, sir.

  • Reading through your posts, it would be interesting to hear what you think of the food too! :D (i.e. How it tastes)
Posted 13 months ago by Wynella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes - there will indeed be comments on how it tastes. The two recipes up so far, haven't warranted much in the way of comment there - plain boiled rice and egg fried rice are pretty standard fare. There are far more interesting dishes to come though...

  • Also...ummmmm...about the Raw Bio-Organic Carob-ish Treat? I truly hope you'll consider using a true chocolate alternative...

    Right?

  • Maybe use Vidalia onions in Earthshakers: They are very sweet.

  • There are no onions in Earthshakers:

    1 Hot 'n' Fizzy Sauce
    1 Beer
    1 Banana
    1 Garlic
    6 Eggs

and the Hot 'n' Fizzy Sauce consists of:

    1 Cumin
    1 Hot Pepper
    1 Mustard
    1 Tiny Bubble

  • Whoops. Onions, garlic; tomato, potato. ;P Still, eggs and garlic doesn't sound like my kind of beverage.

  • I could perhaps get into a more savoury egg-noggish type drink...

    Does this make me weird?
Posted 13 months ago by Dahlia DreadNaught Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not at all, I think there definitely egg-noggish possibilities there!

"eggs and garlic doesn't sound like my kind of beverage."

I had an utterly delicious garlic ice cream once...
