Newbie Comments / Questions: I am confused about what I should do

Firstly, I am not usually an MMORPG player. I normally play FPS, RTS or puzzle games. I have proceeded to level 5 before the game closed (I think I spent around 3-5 hours total)

1) I agree with another user that there is a lack of quests.
2) My inventory is already full and I don't have the 1,999 to buy a "bigger bag". I am stuck with one bag, an elements pouch, some food, butterfly milk and lots of random stuff (mines, beans, bubbles) that I don't know what to do about. Shall I sell all non-food stuff to get a "bigger bag"?
3) I am lost and without any means of teleportation I cannot find the community gardens. I am not good at directions, and thus cannot find that location named "Lx".

What am I supposed to do next when it is eventually open again?

  • Always feel free to ask in the local help channel, or even random players- everyone is really friendly :)
But to directly answer your questions:
    1. The quests will increase as the skill trees get bigger, and I believe some skills will still receive matching quests. Also, people tend to create personal quests (like working on the achievements) or work on the projects.
    2. You can buy the smaller bags in the meantime, they tend to help hold new players over until they can afford a bigger bag. The mine stuff...if it is ambers/gems I would sell them to earn currants to help towards a bigger bag, but you can also donate them as well.
    3. The Great Hole to Ix is in Groddle Forest, in the bottom left I believe, I can't remember exactly what street it is on right now. In terms of directions, you can click on a street and set it as your destination, and then directions will pop up for you to follow. I'm no good with directions either.

Do whatever you want! You can take time to just explore as well as doing quests.

  • 2.  You can auction some of those items and make more currants.  In the game, click on your icon at the top right and you will see a long list of options.  Click Auctions.  When the game is closed or you are not playing, go to the Home page and look on the right side, not too far down, and click on the Auctions link..  Also, when you get a Home, you can dump some of your items or bags there for use later.

    3.  When you are playing, you will see a Street name at the top right of the game panel.  Click on this to open it.  You can then click on any street and set it as "Destination".  Then you will get instructions under the street name as to how to get there.  You can also click on the name of other locations such as IX and the map for that place will open.  Click on a street there to get directions to it.  Also check the Wiki for Streets.

Regarding Quests.  In this game you will note that you receive Badges for many things.  These badges are not always associated with a Quest.  When you learn a skill, try to do everything that skill has taught you.  If it is a cooking skill, for example, make every recipe you have learned.  Continue in that manner to get more badges.  You will also get some badges for visiting streets including the housing areas so try to walk on every one of them.  There are endless things to do and not everything is associated with a Quest.  The more you learn, the more Quests you will recieve.

  • Question: how did you get an elemental pouch? Was it a gift? I doubt you will be using much until you are proficient at mining. Try selling it to buy another regular bag.

  • I agree about the pouch. I am level 26 and I have yet to get much use from mine. Go for more bags and bigger bags for a few more levels.

  • Dont forget you can buy lots of bags - small or large.  You can put a bag in any of you 16 inventory slots - you just cannot put a bag in a bag.  This was not clear to me early on - if your 16 slots are all full but you have space in your bag you cannot buy a new bag (or maybe it puts it on the floor).

Move items from you 16 slot inventory (the bottom bar) into your bag - then you can buy another bag.  Then you can repeat until you have all your inventory slots full of bags or you run out of currants.

  • It was a while before I could afford a bigger  bag as a new player too. I had several small bags before I had enough money to buy a bigger one. I suggest you just buy a bunch of little ones for now, and you can replace them with bigger ones later.

Don't worry about selling any of your stuff--you can always get more later when you find out you need it. You won't need bubbles until you get the skills to make things out of them later (unless you want to eat them--you can eat planks too, by the way). Beans are also relatively worthless unless you have the skills and desire to make higher level food or plant trees. You can eat them or sell them. Donating things to shrines will raise your favor, which you can use to get an emblem when you reach 1000 points that will help you unlock certain higher level skills, or that you can spend before they reach 1000 to speed up learning your skills. If you do this, try to focus on the giant who is best for learning the particular skill you want to speed up--hover over the skill in the skill's page to see who that is.

You can search for particular streets on the map if you know their names. Click on the + in the map icon at the top right of your play screen when you're in game. A larger map will open with a search box in the upper right corner. You can click on a street and set it as your destination here. Then, when you get out of the map there will be an indicator arrow telling you which way to go and which streets to take to get to your final destination.

  • Hi Hukotu Welcome to Glitch ! I'm Divine~ and you can usually find me on the Live Help. This is located at the top of the Friend list next to the Chat Pane.

On quests: Especially on the earlier levels of the game there are lots of quests, most of them are associated with the Skills on the Skills page. Almost every skill you learn will unlock a new quest and there are lots and lots of new quests coming soon. Some of the skills will require you to spend emblems to unlock them, you do this by donating to the shrines of those Giants until you earn the emblem..Once you have it you can click on it to Spend it.

On earning currants: I have found mining to be the quickest way to earn currants, It helps if you have a fancy pick (available from a Hardware Vendor) and the higher your Mining Skills the more ore and gems you will get. You can sell these gems and rocks to any of the vendors throughout the game or at auction for currants to solve your storage problems.

On getting around: If you click on your map (the box with the little pic of where you are at the top right of your game window) it will expand and there is a search function. If you want to go to Ix just enter that in the search box and it will open the map for that area, click on a street and chose set destination. This will open another box below your map with a directional arrow to tell you which way to go and what street you want next. Also on the map you will see small gray icons next to the streets. If you hover over these with your mouse they will tell you what type of Vendor and Giant Shrine is located on each street.

  • Thanks everyone for your help! I didn't notice there is a "Destination" feature until now.. Will try again when the game re-opens.

As for the elemental pouch, I bought it because of a quest, only to know that I need a couple of more items.

At what levels do you get a house? It seems to require quite a number of things, including skills and some money.
Posted 19 months ago by hokuto Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You don't "get" a house.  You can choose to complete the skills that allow you to buy a house and you can save up your currants so you have enough for the lifestyle you prefer.

But it is not required to play the game, and it is not automatically given to you at a particular level.

  • What WindBorn  said about the house is correct.
I managed to play through an entire reset to reset without owning a house, however  it meant I couldn't accept some quests and it made managing inventory  especially tricky.

The Live Help chat in the game is a terrific resource, especially if you get stuck.

There are also groups  you can join...  FAQ, Glitch Strategy,  etc.
If you join New Streets, the group's chat is one to have open during game play if you want to take part in any of the building projects.

  • Welcome  hokuto!!!  I usually keep the wiki page open when I play. www.glitch-strategy.com/wik...

Did you figure out how to chat with people in the game?  Not sure why that stumped me at first... but once I got that, the "Live Help" channel was very helpful!  (waves at Divine~)

Edit to add:  This page from the Wiki might help you find your way around.   Figuring out how to use the map when you're in the game will be a HUGE help for getting around!!

Some quests need partners. If you need help with doing any quest or temporarily need free items for a badge; you can join this group and post for help in the group Glitch Free Trading and Group Activities http://beta.glitch.com/groups/RA91BVFRV612IPE/

  • Hukotu - I just added you as a buddy, feel free to IM me while I am online (I will show up in your friend's list if you add me as a buddy too). I have reached a high enough level that I have spare currents and can help a friend, so feel free to contact me & I'll be glad to buy a bag for you to help out w/space. Also, you are still the level required for other people to want to gift you w/items (It's a guest to give something to a lower level player, used to be level 1, but I think level 5 still qualifies). You can post in global chat giving your location and level and asking if anyone that has that quest and perhaps a spare bag or extra item you need for a quest that you would be happy to receive them. Or maybe they would like to give you something to help w/energy or that you could donate for favor or auction for currants. Most people are friendly and willing to help out and answer questions. Hope to see you next time the game is open.
