Do you think they will ever have "enemies" in the game?

Do you think they will ever put in monsters that you kill to get currants/xp? Is this something you would even want to see in Glitch?

For my part, I kind of do want monsters. Maybe not in the persistent world, but if they add solo/group instances where you have weapons and armor it might not be so bad.

  • This game would be great for that sort of thing but that's not what the developers had in mind. :(

  • Info about the rook: glitch.com/blog/2010/09/03/...

They tested it out a couple of weeks ago, turned out to be slow & buggy, but we think it has great potential (we *know* it has). Video & thoughts: alpha.glitch.com/forum/gene...

  • LOL you hug it? Win.

  • you don't hug the rook.

the rook has a negative effect on the animals and trees on the street. you hug the animals in order to revive them.

  • The Rook will come back (though the original design/mechanic was a bit too overwhelming for our still-unoptimized game client). And the Jujus are bad too (I'll answer that other thread about them as well). And more badness will show up in the world here and there …

But Glitch probably won't ever have baddies that you walk around killing with a sword (or whatever) as a primary part of normal game world. Having said that, having optional minigames on the side, challenging other players, fighting by proxy (designing bots to go after each other in turn-based game somewhat reminiscent of battlechess from the original Star Wars movie) are all things that are possibilities.

  • Is there something as 'too delightful'? A wonderful world of pig-hugging & non-fatal nibbling. I welcome the Rook.

  • I came in with the end of December invites so I haven't seen the old Rook or how it was to be used.

I think right now without an other/outside/baddies there isn't a focus for everything. I imagine politics at some point is meant to be an activity, but probably not something to help new players focus or have a sense of purpose. The Rook, bracing for storms, repairing things so the nightmares don't break into the imagination would all be helpful to those players who want a focus instead of just crafting quests.

Having a skills to make defenses, gadgets, spells, songs to aid in protecting things could be a good alternative for those who aren't interested in politics. But could still be a group activity.

Mini games and hints along the way to focus why you are crafting/gathering would make all the running around worrying about energy at least have a goal.

I thought the rook egg smashing mini level was much of a "finally" moment for me. Then nothing after it. I feel like that mini level or some other introduction/hint would be good after 5 ish levels not the 9 or so I got to it.

I would almost even like the Rook/nightmare to be introduced immediately as a warning by your rock guy. Nightmare being the flipside of the imagination in a way. Even you getting a whisper or vision of the Rook that is somehow ominous but perhaps trying to convert you would keep you looking out as you go about the game, a full early mini level wouldn't absolutely be needed. But finding feathers here and there or other evidence could keep the bad side in the players minds.

  • Can't wait for more Rook quests. Like, delving further and further into the Raven's nest or something.

Kraxle Pop: here's a video of the Rook back in October when we tested it: goo.gl/6QsFP (pretty crappy experience, huh) and feedback from us & devs: goo.gl/oQPHB.

Wow, watching the video again makes me realise what I think the game needs right now. I mean, I'm at level 28. And I'm starting to get a bit... well, tired with the gameplay. I still *LOVE* it and treasure every moment, but the only thing I have to look forward to is street projects. And helping others, of course. But that's why I looked forward to that new Rook quest so much that I dared not to click it for the first day or so so I'd have something to anticipate and get excited about ;) Hmm... going back to my original point, seeing the video made me realise how much awesome-er the game would be with a tense, defensive and obstructive element! Just can't wait for the Rook to hit again in-game. I don't mind if that's not coming until beta or even release, but just my two cents. How does everyone else feel about this?

  • The demonic game with the rocks needs serious work.

  • I tried the rook like 3 times and didn't think I could beat it without spinach...Had to stop because the rocks got so frusterating.

  • Smendelanoche, on the rock quest, you need to climb one of the trees. You can't tell because they're black. I had the same problem and had to do the quest like 3 times!

  • I didn't even think about using spinach in the rook quest. It's a simple quest when you realize what is happened at the set of blocks. It's not exactly hard to jump the first block, though.

  • Anyone who played Super Mario twenty years ago should be able to do the rook quest. Unless you are hit by lag.

I'm looking forward to more darker elements in the game. Pigs that turn out to be goblins, the occasional butterfly that bites, ghosts that lurk in marshes to lure you to your doom. Otherwise the game will become, well, twee.

  • I think what I like most about this game is there are no enemies, no fighting! :)

  • When the game reopens I'm going to try to climb up the tree. Thank you so much, I noticed that the reward for this game was great in comparison to other quests.

  • Since the collaborative projects are so well received, a nice touch could be some dark force damaging areas, so collaborative efforts are required to rebuild.

If there are battles they should remain entirely optional and clearly labelled so you can ignore if you're just after a bit of a chat or to see how many bubbles you can fill your house with.
