Remote Croppery skill

We can tend our animals from afar, so why not our crops as well?  There is almost nothing I find more frustrating than returning to my house 12 hours after planting some crops only to discover that they needed to be watered one more time before they could finish growing.  So I was thinking a nice little irrigation system would totally do the trick.

And perhaps further, an auto-harvester and auto-planter?  As with our animal related automation, these would be machines with a limit on total capacity, so your garden wouldn't become infinitely automated.

But PS to the devs - you should make the Beekeeping skill first.  :)  *desperately wants to be an apiarist*

  • The idea of having a full-scale agribusiness in one's backyard is a bit scary, but I totally support the addition of a sprinkler item. And, of course, BEES.

  • An irrigation system is fine but I wouldn't bother building or buying it.  I've never had my crops run out of water if I water them to full right before planting the seeds and I grow potatoes all the time for stew.

I'd LOVE a way to hoe and water multiple plots at once.

  • I'm just a little black raincloud, hovering under a honey tree. I'm just a little black raincloud, pay no attention to little me.

  • The grindy bits to ag, the way I see them, are, in order:
    a) feeding pigs to gain seeds; I would not mind paying for an advanced pig feeder in order that what I feed them...passes along. I would tolerate overall lower yields in exchange.
    b) picking through plops; I would not mind having some kind of device (roomba? small dog? pressure washer?) that takes care of this particular tedium. Even if the overall yields are lower.
    c) Hoeing: I would love a method to clean multiple plots at once, even if it meant more wear and tear on my hoe, or other implement.
    d) Watering: Again, a way to mass water.
    e) Harvesting is not that tedious. I don't mind it.
    f) Planting is not that tedious; I do not mind it especially, but a way to plant up an entire set of plots with one type of seed would be useful.

And of course I would love bees.  For no other reason than to have them.  I'm a sucker for cute bugs.  Honey production would not be bad though.

  • I don't know how I feel about this. I mean, once we open up the world to bees, then it won't be long before Nicholas Cage is running around and screaming all over the place.
