  • thanks Pixieyelraek, but how do people get General Housing Permits if there is no BA3? I learned BA2 and the bureaucrats will only give me the personal papers. am i going to the wrong place? where do i go stand in line to fill out my paperwork for a tower?!

well, i just bought one from the auctions. but maybe other new glitches would like to know because there aren't many for sale.

  • Once you have BA2, you should be able to go to a Bureaucratic Hall, wait, and then select either Your Papers or a Permit.

  • oh, i see that i didn't have BA2 learned. I'll try again, thank you.

  • You can also buy permits from other players (who do have BA2).

  • You know, it's not that impossible.

  • That was a staff member/co-founder who was testing things, hence he was given the skills instantly basically. You will also notice, he does not have the skills PM3 or BA3, nor does he have the Impossible Achievement. So yes, Impossible.

  • You are looking at it in a now frame of mind. Imagine how it was then. What the achievement list read like then. Immediately after. Long long ago.

I never said that it was earned. I just stated that it was not impossible to attain.

  • Yes, yes it is. ROFL it doesn't. actually. exist. It is a *placeholder* put in to keep us peons from learning a skill before it is ready to be released. Therefore, it is the *very* definition of impossible. Even *if* a staff member was able to learn one of these skills because they are *testing* them, they won't actually be earning the achievement - at best they will get a placefiller prereq to cover that gap.

  • You saw the pic I posted, obviously. Screenied a few of the other devs obtaining same around that time period. I found it amusing at the time. Still do.

If you see it, and ascertain for yourself that it reads "finished learning the Meditative Arts III skill",   then you agree that it existed, yes? If not the skill itself, the idea, the impetus, the unobtainable made real. For a brief moment those words were let loose in the wild. At that point the impossible happened.

You can view it as a throwaway sentence; a temporal marker relegated to obscurity, or you can see it as triumph over limitation. In a game where imagination is paramount (and curiously enough the unit of currency) some want to put a cap on what one can do- what can be done. I on the other hand want to open minds and offer up possibilities.

  • O.o meditative arts exists. I really don't get what your argument is. There are two specific skills out there that claim that in order to get them, you have to have the prereq achieve "the imposible achieve" www.glitch.com/skills/intel...
It *does not exist* it is a place holder of nonsense to keep people from being able to learn the skill. it intentionally does not exsist. there is no "imposible achievement" i can't understand what part of "does not exist" you aren't getting. it is just words. they could have put in the words "placeholder" and would you be arguing that "placeholder" is obtainable? Maybe someday they will put it in, but for now it doesn't, and your reasoning that something that once didn't exist {MA3} now does has nothing at all to do with this discusion, all it does it perplex me as to what in the heck you are on about. Being cutesy and "Deep" doesn't remove the fact that in real life, they are just words.

  • Staff can do things (and get achievements) we aren't able to.  So possibly not technically "impossible" but for practical uses of the word? Impossible.

  • @ Pixieyelsraek Yes, you missed the point entirely.

The contention was that something was impossible. I provided a pic that refuted this. A screen capture that I revealed amused me. To no end, honestly. The impossible achievement, and BA3 for that matter, have always been known to be an Quixotic quest. Bandied about in discussions of whimsical Glitchian touches that keep one entertained. Another personal favorite of mine is the wonderful wordplay that springs from the creative minds that contribute content- especially awesome portmanteaus like "magnilliant". Silly, sure. Kind of the underlying mystique of this place (imo), the inherent silliness and predilection for surreal humour. We've both been playing long enough that I don't need to elaborate.

The pic I posted should have been the end of it, right- why would anyone take it seriously? Just a bit of nonsense; it was said to be impossible and I poked fun at that notion. I don't want to put words into your mouth but you seem to think that the person involved and their access to things which are unavailable to mooks like us is lost on me. Nope, neither is the time stamp on skills learned. The pic is just a prop. A setup if you will. Something to have fun with at a later date. Like most here I have some favourite Glitch stuff stashed away. Remember this? Events that have happened but are not to be taken too seriously. Still fun to interject into a conversation that is somewhat applicable though. I'm sure we have all archived some cool wtf moments in our time here.

It wasn't my intention to engage you in conversation about it. Honestly. But you decided to reply (and I wasn't baiting you btw) and it tickled me. I couldn't imagine you were thinking that you had to educate me on something that was already common knowledge before we ascended. C'mon. I thought you were trolling me, seeing as how I figured no one would take it seriously. So to feel you out, I simply told you again the truth- that the skill has been attained and that nothing is impossible. I couched it in a way that I hoped would show you not to get emotionally invested in something that was a lark. You didn't get it though, and I was beginning to think you were actually serious. Blew my mind. One one level, you missed the overall goofiness of the whole thing...a badge for an achievement that had an impossible prerequisite piggybacked to it being swatted at with a pic of someone doing just that. If I had never seen that pic until that moment I would have laughed and hailed Serg as some sort of ersatz superglitch and went on my way. On a deeper level, I would be more than happy to chat about the implications of realizing the impossible but that would be best suited for pm.

I had every intention of whipping this into a Schopenhauerian frenzy, poking fun at a  wolkenkuckucksheim theme (more at my own expense than yours), and taking a broadside at devs and their hidden secret society (with access to all the cool stuff) via a tirade strewn with apophenia-filled nonsense and innuendo. Of course that was before I came back in tonight and looked at your profile calling for help and linking to this thread. So you were serious after all. Kindly takes all the fun out of it. I don't want to stress you or poke fun at you. I'd rather have fun with you.

Let me break this down for you: The post was for OP to look at, see the pic, and realize that there is an abundance of history and fun here. Things have happened that can be shared and talked about- Glitch lore brought to those who have missed out and are curious. Should we have the opportunity to share and instill knowledge then we should take advantage of it. Some times that opportunity happens only once and then it's gone. Carpe them diems when you can. You want to tell someone that something is impossible, I want them to realize that just because someone says they can't doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't already happened. We can argue the legitimacy of it all day long but in the end it's still just a device to spur conversation on.

I get it, you were in the thread being helpful. Doing your thing and helping OP out. Cool beans, thank you. So was I. If someone had asked about where that pic came from, or when it happened, or the context, some decent stories could be swapped. But instead of seeing the  humour in it you thought instead that you had to set everything right while missing the point. You know what? You don't always have to be the sheriff and regulate. Sometimes you can just be in the posse and enjoy the ride.

  • The post was for OP to look at, see the pic, and realize that there is an abundance of history and fun here.

That's a really neat goal. :) But when you post without any of that history to give context, instead of fun it is very possible for it to get confusing to someone asking the question. So I think that people weren't trying to "regulate" but to make sure that people who wanted the info had the correct info and wouldn't be confused.

  • @ diaveborn ♥ I know, it's hard to infer context and you open yourself up to being misunderstood. How often do we see that happen :)

Pretty much shut it down once I realized that Pixieyelsraek wasn't going to have fun with it. Just not that mean-spirited. It is what it is; should I be engaged in a conversation where a new element is introduced to the discussion- a tearing away of the veil and a revelation made- I would happily charge down that rabbit hole to see where it goes. You can't open your mind if you have an unteachable spirit.

  • Honestly, i felt you were the one trolling me, until i realized the whole cutesy, deep, "imagine" crap aspect of it you were trying to pull.
I obviously see these forums, and the game, differently that you do. I don't role play here, i find it super distateful on the forums but i get why people do it in game at least and respect it *there*. I don't do the whole "sand box let's make this bigger than it is and invent a whole new game within the game" thing that some people do.
With the influx of new players recently, there is merit in those of us looking to just answer questions, and not try to be philosophical or play "imagine", which CAN very much confuse the noobs. Trying to argue with me about something that was very obviously fact and turn it into "that's your opinion" got me to no end, and by the time i thought you were trolling me, it was too late i couldn't bring myself to stop [i try not to feed trolls].
Also, the little pot shot there - just because i view these forums {and even the game} differently than you does not mean i have an "unteachable spirit" or an unopened mind.

  • I have the perfect solution to end this debate. Tiny Speck can release the new skills today with prerequisite that we already have access to. *looks hopefully at TS*
Posted 4 months ago by Grackle Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Grackle - heh, that would be awesome. When BA3 and PM3 are ready they will drop TIA prereq.... I am really hoping they have more skills ready to go than these two though. I am even more hoping for more achieves/quests to give people like me something to do. :-)

  • I'd like swimming to be one of the skills. So we can swim in the big ocean that TS is going to make available some day soon. *looks even more hopeful*.
