Rube on the map

Please make the rube visible on the little map in the corner. He's very difficult to find, especially on a street with multiple levels. All the Glitchen show up as white dots.... could the Rube be a yellow dot, or a big R or something so he can be found? I was on a multi-level street yesterday, with no other Glitchen around, so I knew he was there for me, but I had a hard time finding him.
Thanks for considering it.

  • I would love a yellow dot for the Rube. Seconded.

  • I don't know if I agree. A big part of the rube is the randomness.

  • I am a bit torn on this one and lean towards what Kookaburra just said. I love when I hear the Rube music and everyone freaks out and starts the headless chicken dance, running back and forth going "omg omg where is He where is He where is He?".

But I see what you are saying Zany when you are perhaps all alone in Chakra Phool and by the time you navigate the whole street, climbing vines and crossing precarious rope bridges, the Rube disappears just as you catch sight of him.

I'm curious as to how the Rube is programmed to behave. Perhaps it would be possible to have him head in the direction/"follow" the Glitch He is there for if they haven't found him within 15 seconds of his appearance?

  • I thought the Rube randomly appeared and you couldn't go find him to talk to him. But I could be totally wrong

  • Sometimes he appears and I run to speak to him and he tells me he is there for someone else. Sometimes i run and find him and he talks to me just fine. It seems to vary.

  • One time last test, Rube appeared and he said he was there to see Xyz.  Then someone else went up to him and Rube changed to be there for that person.

  • I didn't know that the music is a hint that Rube is on the street!

Since, I'm Deaf, there should be a visual alert. And also, other time, I just press "up" all the time when I'm behind the tree, hidden tunnel, etc... and at one time, I was in Nandak Intention and discover the Rube by press "up." No idea he was there to waiting for me.

  • The visual cue for the Rube's arrival is a great idea!  On top of the accessibility issue for the hearing-impaired, it is nice to sometimes play Glitch with the volume turned down.

  • I agree with the visual cue but only for the street he is on and not on the map so that swarms of ppl can teleport and clog up the area when Rube isn't even looking for them.

  • My thoughts were to only have it show up on the map for the street he is on, not the regional or global map.

And Milolin gives the best reason of all why this should happen. There should never be anything in the game that relies only on sound.

  • A dot on the street map is a great idea.  The Rube just needs to be a yellow, shiny dot to be in contrast with the white player dots.

  • Sometimes I play with glitch muted and listen to something else.  Without a visual cue, there's no way to know he's there... especially if you click to a street accidently, trigger the Rube, and click to where you were going... you never saw or heard him.

A small HUD notification, like maybe a small picture of him, saying what street he's located on... or it says 'HERE' if you're on the street he's on.

  • @Milolin: I think I remember you mentioning that you discovered The Rube "hiding" in Nandak Intention but didn't understand what you meant until now.

It never occurred to me that Deaf people (and people who play with the sound down) would be missing out on the Rube announcing his presence via his theme song. Sorry! Therefore I revise my previous stand and agree that there should be a visual alert of some kind.

  • +1 Maybe even more conspicuous than a shiny yellow dot on the mini map. Maybe gold streamers of music in the air? :p

edit: after reading fadingfast's post below, I realize that this (streamers of music) would also keep Rube's exact location on the street from being known right away.

  • compass that had 3 hands
    1 for rook
    1 for rube
    1 for crab
didn't tell you exactly where they were but pointed you in a direction to the closest one

  • +1 for the visual alert. My computer is on the other side of my son's bedroom wall and he is often sleeping when I want to play so I rarely have sound turned on.

  • +1 for a visual alert - my computer is muted 99% of the time, while I love the music of the game, often times I'm doing something else while playing, and it prevents me from having sound up (including sitting in the living room where other, crazy, non-glitchy people are attempting to watch a movie -- how he does it with 3 glitchens in the same room, I have no idea)

It would be great if when we land on a street we could have a notification of some sort that would tell us that the Rube is on the street, but I do not like the idea of having him show up on the map, I'm not sure why - but that just seems like it makes it too easy.  The scramble of trying to find him when I *am* able to hear the music is exhilarating.

  • Bumping up this suggestion.

  • This would be a great addition.  Fadingfastx3 has pretty much summed up my position.  For me, audio-only aspects of the game are an annoyance, but I have a choice.  For deaf or hard-of-hearing people there is no choice - they lose out on these things entirely.

  • +100 for something visual to alert you to the Rube.  I'm thinking that a notice in Local, with a different background color, like the ones we have from God, would be perfect, especially since it would also pop up in the corner of the game screen.  "The Rube is here looking for someone to trade with," or "You hear carnival music, maybe there's a fair?"  Maybe even a notice that he's gone "The Rube is leaving with all his treasures."  or "The Rube is disappointed that no one will come trade with him, so he's going."

I am also torn about the local map indicator.  Once, about a minute after the music stopped, I finally found the Rube still waiting for me in the corner of one of the levels.  I was lucky since I had simply stayed on that street because I was mining.

  • I like the idea of local Rube notifs, one way or another.

Maybe if there were map location dots there could be "false" ones? Either he's here, or there! Take a guess and hope you picked the right one.
