Jump is hard

I don't know if its my Safari, but it's hard to jump with clicking, with the up arrow key will be more easy

  • I'm finding the jumping quite clunky as well. If you aren't already moving before you jump, you can't move sideways after jumping. It' also can't get the Quoin on the second level. =(

  • Are you guys in now? How are you getting in? I just got into alpha + I jumped into the top of the queue with the FB link.

  • For me, graphic lag is the problem. So, jump is not easy.

  • I really dislike this aspect of the game. First off, I don't ever play games that require these sorts of reflex-actions; I'd rather use my brain. For those of us who don't play platformer games and are just on our laptops, we have very little control. Secondly, the lag time is a constant problem. I often don't know what I'm going to get or it seems like it didn't work and then I'm still jumping 5 seconds later. Again, if you like this style of game, you probably have a higher speed internet connection to back it, but on a slower connection like DSL, then it's a pain.

I've gotten through level 10, but still can't accomplish the early level 2 quest to jump up the tree. I also have the same problems with the steal-the-egg Rook quest that the rock gives you early on. No control, too much lag = immediate crushing.

I'd much rather see climbing and having to figure out a route or an assist, than the silly jumping.

  • One of best aspects of Glitch is Jump & Run like gameplay. It is funny to jump around to run interact with objects and stuff.

What i will love to see is more games and challenges like hide and seek for example where group of players sign in game and play together. Two player board games like checkers for example.

It is good to have functionality for all type of players - more active ones, more stale ones... freedom in actions for everyone.

  • I agree with you Colette, my inability to jump is driving me mad, and makes me find the game tedious in many places.  There are people virtually flying around me, don't know if I am inept or it it a Mac/Chrome/laptop issue.

  • I suspect it's a Mac Flash issue... I'm having a brutal time jumping accurately still.

  • It took me ages to do the tree jumping quest. You need tons of spinach. I always carry spinach for when I find the next leap just too much. I don't have great jumping skills either but I do find it helps to have one finger on the left or right arrow and the other hovering over the spacebar. (two finger typist lol!)

  • Jumping normally isn't too bad but I also rarely experience any lag.  My main issues is jumping off of ladders.  I suck at it.  Very hard to go from ladder to a platform next to ladder.  I will fall like 10 times.   Other than that jumping is great.  Maybe allow "Air Movement." So I can go from standing still, to jumping to the side with greater speed and ease.

  • It does take a lot of practice to get the keyboard movement down to a science if you are not used to it. The connection speeds won't help either. Collette-I am a level 30 and still haven't completed the Tree-jumping or Rook quests so don't be put off by that. Nothing will happen if you don't ever complete them. That is the great thing about this game. There is no time table. Do things at your own pace till you find the right level of "fun".

  • run mac flash here, and jumping is no issue.

seems like most of the dexterity game aspects are being mostly limited to races, which you can choose if you want to engage in.

some folks just don't like reflex and dexterity stuff. when it comes to 3rd person shooters, i have te very same attitude so understand where people are coming from.

i am of the opinion that things like collecting milk and feeding batterflies should almost certainly not require jumping ... but also that glitch should have many more options for experiencing ilinx outside the "core game" context. races are a great example of how to do this, as are [arguably] the nostalgia and juju filled areas.

  • Is it a mac/safari thing?
I use a mac but have safari 10.4.11 and can't get chrome, you need 10.5 or higher.
I also use my mouse 99% of the time.
I only use keyboards space bar for small jumps and to climb a ladder using space bar and up key.
I cannot climb down a ladder and get stuck everywhere your only option is to climb down.  I can follow someone down a ladder but that isn't very often, thank god for teleportation.
I have to use spinach for most jumps and when it comes to a race its really sad.
To finish the quest, The Great Race (no spinach allowed) a friend let me follow her through the entire race and at the end I got to walk over the finish line first.  It was actually one of the funniest things I have ever done in Glitch.  For some odd reason I followed her backwards and my head bounced off every rock, tree, hill as she jumped up and down following the race course.  It was hysterical.
If anyone knows a shortcut or keyboard keys that would help me I would appreciate hearing about them.
    Thanks :)

  • xoxjulie that story about using the following feature to follow a friend through the race is wonderful.

it sounds like a bug if your down key won't work on ladders, only your up key. have you reported this bug?

  • I have just a small Toshiba 15"laptop.have been playing this game since Alpha in March, never had an issue ,no lag, no prob with jumping.I find with delicate jumping like the Amazing race I have to be gentle with the spacebar to jump if I hold too long it flys away.it is very sensitive this puter or my fingers are like driving hard to the metal. My hubby has a huge monitor and gradiosy puter.freaks me right out to play on it.it is too overwhelming for me.so for a small laptop I love playing Glitch with the keys.took awhile to get the hang of the finger control but it works good here.

  • Yes and got one answer to use the debugger, which did not help at all, and had a really hard time removing it.  Then got told we are looking into it, with a follow up email that it had been resolved.  It hasn't I still can't climb down.  I finally figured out that If it's a real bug when the game goes live they will have to fix problem and until then I just have to look at it as an extra hurdle I get to jump over or down (yes pun intended)

Thanks striatic for trying to help me.  :)

  • instead of climbing down via down arrow, it should be possible to jump down or move off the ladder using the side arrows and then dropping, right?
Posted 17 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I will note that and try it again, it did work once but only once and never again.  Then again after it didn't work again I didn't try it again. aewwwww  Next game I will try it in several places and let you know if it worked.  Thank you

  • Yah I was getting very frustrated with my jump in certain quests like races, the rook egg smash, and in rainbow run. Sometimes I'd play and it would be fine, and sometimes it would be horrible, so I figured it was lag. Whenever I try it on my girlfriends mac, it always runs smoothly, so I'm not sure...

  • I'm playing on Chrome, no problem with jumping. I only have trouble on races because I feel pressured to win the first time through even though I have no idea which way to go haha

I really like jumping, it's faster to go through streets that way instead of walking through.
Posted 17 months ago by Piratice Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm not convinced that jumping is faster, having tried to jump my way through some races.  However, I definitely agree that jumping through streets is much more fun than walking.

  • Jumping ranges from a bit to very hard for me (FF/mac, but also happens occasionally on Chrome). Usually worst when the game is laggy, but my ISP might be the culprit some of the time. To counter lag and/or comcast issues, I grow and carry bushels of spinach with me. It's not convenient all the time (like in races where it's not allowed), but most of the time, it does the trick.

When you're having trouble, just msg me in-game and I'll send some. I always have tons (hundreds!) with me. I should start calling myself Popeye!

  • I have mac 10.5.8 and have the same problems that xox.Julie is experiencing! Sorry xox.Julie! I thought it was just my computer! Lap Top actually. So there are times that it works fine and other times,  jumps and going up and down ladders is impossible. I have to come out of the game then re-enter to get my Avatar off a ladder or rock! Sorry so many are having these computer problems but glad to hear its not just my computer.

  • Hi Joy,  sorry to hear you are still having the same problems..As a PC player, wish I could help more.. and hope that Eureka is right.. that spinach can help.. "Activate".. not eating, right?.. but I guess you probably know that already.

  • I use Windows and FF and have the same problems with jumping. There is no fine level of control so I end up falling off of things as my glitch keeps moving for a few seconds after I take my finger off the arrow key. Or it doesn't jump until a few moments too late which leaves me on the same level (if it's a long level) and having to go back and try again, or it leaves me falling and having to start again from a lower level.

  • Correction - I am using IE to play Glitch (even though I prefer FF).
Posted 17 months ago by jumpuphigh Subscriber! | Permalink
  • My jumping issues tend to come only if I've been playing for an extended amount of time.  Seems fine after I quit the game, close out the browser, and come back.  Hope that helps!
