Shops

I would like to see a feature where instead of a house (which is basically a farm), we could buy a Shop.  We would need to have the requisite skill for the shop we buy, and we could only have one, but they would buy items for more than the vendors do, and sell items that we can't make or buy elsewhere.

For example, a bakery would buy grain for somewhat more than what a vendor does, and sell cakes.  Cakes could be linked to achievements, like if you have a birthday cake in your possession on the anniversary of when your Glitch was created, you would get the happy birthday achievement.  The output of cakes would be limited by the input of grain, but it could be much more profitable than a house.

Other shops could be a bookstore (buys paper, sells books), butcher shop (buys meat, sells sauage/fancy cuts), vegan store (buys beans, sells faux meat), Jeweler (buys gems, sells jewelry), Ice Cream Parlor (buys milk), Cannery (buys vegetables) and so on.  There could be a type of shop for every type of raw  good there is.  It would be a fun thing for a player with high skills to try out.

  • So, if I have a Shop, and I want to buy grain to use in recipes, I would have to buy it at double the rate everyone else could?  How does that help?  I don't understand why anyone would want to purchase a Shop if it doubled their ingredients cost. Or are you suggesting that only someone with a shop would have access to the recipes for cakes?

That still wouldn't make paying double for ingredients for all your other recipes that use those resoruces much fun.

  • Thank you for your thought-provoking reply.

My thought was that only the shop can have the recipes for the shop.  As far as the raw material purchasing prices, was thinking really 80-90% of value, as opposed to 70% at other vendors - I don't know how I managed to double the price of grain there (bad me). I was thinking  that the owner shouldn't have to acquire all the raw material him or herself, but maybe it would be better that way.

My main thoughts were that 1) if people were travelling to special vendors to get better prices  on their goods, that the shops could be another place to get the good prices; and 2) there has to be some value to owning a property beyond being a farmer, 3) there should be something new and exciting to look forward to for long-time players, and 4) not everybody should be able to do everything simultaneously.  Just like we can't grow crops and herbs at the same time in our houses, there should be other things that make one type of home ownership different from another.
