  • Oh noooo lmao. I wonder if I'll be able to earn the extra currants I need by the time they ARE supposed to be there? Lmao

  • this is my second time of buying a housse there, and I stayed up all night to do it, will they be available today or not, kinda sick of false hope here.

  • There's a bug topic open for those of you who need help getting currants back

  • Got my currants back, tyvm.   But I'd really like the house instead. <g>

  • One thing I don't remember seeing mentioned, it looks like there is a pen and the back of the property. Will my animals stay away from my trees now?

Add in the garden on a different level and you have a really nice system to keep animals from interfering with other activities.

  • oh goodie! I was really scared there when I read 'wow, the 50k ones are already sold out'. I'll be refreshing for a while :-]

  • The pen does keep the animals in, yes. They are handy!

  • stoot - the price is way too high.

It's the beginning of elitism - for the humanity I say!
Posted 19 months ago by MeherMan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks for the help Kevin

anne216 - I gave up and caught a couple of hours sleep earlier - still wasn't quick enough to try the 2nd batch.

I love the idea of having a roof garden and ooh that is an animal pen, awesome!
Posted 19 months ago by Teena Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't think it's the beginning of elitism, there are many nice houses for less.

I think it builds a new level on top, once I bought my house and all of my tools (20-25k currants) there really isn't much use for the huge amount of currants I accrue. Now I have something else to save/spend for.
Posted 19 months ago by Zaphod Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, I'm delighted. I've been carting around 70 something thousand currants for a while now, with nothing to do with them.
Posted 19 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Same here, and with the recent addition of limits on favor you could get from donations, I don't have that outlet anymore.
Posted 19 months ago by Zaphod Subscriber! | Permalink
  • In no way is the price way too high. You've got 18-28 gardening patches, 3 trees, a pen that keeps animals out of the rest of your space, and 24-32 slots in your storage cabinet.... not even discussing the ascetics. 24 storage slots at a bigger bag each = 48,000 currants, how is the house not worth at least as much as the storage? How much is a streets worth of resources worth?

Don't like the price, don't pay it... but it's certainly worth the asking price. There will probably be a more affordable model later (notice no small version?). Not every style of home should be immediately available to everyone, just as not all skills are immediately available to everyone. The design of the various homes are appealing at various points in your Glitch life, and one style may be better suited to your play choices than another.

The design of *these* homes actually matches the growing player interest in cooking, which means bigger gardens and easier food management... and yes, that means the players who have been using the biggest houses in Groddle to accomplish that are gonna move, which means the next group of people who need more space/trees/gardening will have space in their price range.

There are at least 30 people here who could come up with the 50-70k to buy before the game even opens, so I'd say that indicates there is a whole lot of spare and saved cash floating around. Personally I think they could sell these homes at 150k without any problems (might take an hour or two, but not more than 4 hours for 20+ houses @150k - that would be elitism).

  • I didnt balk at the price, I thought it was quite fair for what we were getting and that was before I knew about the animal pen! The fact that they sold so quickly indicates they are not overpriced.
Posted 19 months ago by Teena Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I completely agree that there needs to be more expensive things to eat into the spare excess of currants floating around (although this really does reward those who gouge at auctions, but that's another story).

But to fairly compare, the storage for the 50k home is exactly the same amount that I have in my 10k Marrakesh Meadows house (a 32 slot cabinet).

It has one less patch than my Marrakesh home, although that's balanced against the extra garden plots in the Alakol home.

It has a corral for the pigs, which is worthwhile, although the 3 story height might present interesting challenges with butterflies (can't say as we haven't seen it in action).

It has a lot more space than my Marrakesh home, but is that worth the extra 40k?  That and the artwork and the fact that there are so few of them may make it worth the extra 40k, but it really does seem like a stretch to go from my house to these for an additional 40k.

So, yea, it is a bit elitist (and I'll be honest, I want one and would pay for it).

And, oh the parties that could be thrown there...
Posted 19 months ago by zeeberk Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't think that there are that few of them, although there were only eight in the original offering, I have no doubt that they will quickly be as numerous as all the other housing areas.
Posted 19 months ago by Zaphod Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @zee - yup, big price jump... big garden! Note the 10k "Firebog" houses have no garden and 1 patch with only an 18 slot cabinet in some. (I miss mine, but I hated hanging out in the Community Gardens. Then I had the Seed to Scythe quest) I think we're both banging the same drum that the cost is always going to be worth it to some people and not for others.

  • i want one today so bad! i hope they put enough on the market...  actually that makes me wonder if they CAN put enough of them on the market.  how many do you think they could sell this test?  any guesses?
Posted 19 months ago by IxÆoN Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @zeebek I haven't ever sold anything at auction, so certainly didn't gouge to get my currants.  I wanted to buy one for the aesthetics, to tell you the truth.  I loved my cottage in MMs, but this was so peaceful, and I love the water! : )
Posted 19 months ago by Plantagenet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @IxAEoN: Dang, I'm just hoping they still OPEN at this point...sigh :)
Posted 19 months ago by RM Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Trav: yea, but the firebog houses (some of the 10k ones I've been looking at anyway) have fireflies and barnies and jellies or peat! ;-)

Interesting footnote... when we very first got a glimpse of the model firebog homes, everyone wanted one.  They were the hot, hip new thing!  All the talk for weeks was when they'd be available to buy. Everyone wanted one, it seems.

Now so many sit vacant, I think I saw graffiti on a few of them.... ;-)

  • LOL zee - and if you dig through the forums there was all that 'I wanna live in (insert region)' before we opened Phool and Jeth?
I actually think the Firebog houses will do better once the gardening/cooking craze is over. It was an excellent place to live while I was working on street projects/digging skills, and I hung around a while longer during my Better Learning/Animal Kinship/Mining skills. The multi-levels let me keep three 'herds' of pigs in the basement (are the butterflies fixed so they fly above the floor yet?)... and the stairs in the house made for awesome extra sort/storage space. I think I forgot my spare elemental pouch and toolbox because they fit so well into the decor! Right now there's a big, big batch of people working on gardening/cooking (byproduct of all starting skills at the same time post-reset)... which I think is what spiked demand in Groddle.

  • I sold my 10k house in Shimla to move to the Meadow when the map changed and it was further out and also because I needed to garden/cook. I miss my Shimla house, but then I missed my cave ... Phool & Jeth are a bit too dark for my liking.
