I joined Glitch one year ago and never missed a day playing (even when the game was closed, I checked every few hours). So the dust stick feels like a very special gift on this special day :)
Congrats to those that got them...I know many of you were pretty freaked out during this time, and it was a bit traumatic for you to find so much of your stuff missing! (((hugs))) Glad they gave you something cool for the ordeal you went through!
Wow, now I almost wish I had gone through the trauma of the loss of things...although, any chance those of us that did lose things, but didn't notice them lost got one of these awesome sticks?! **Runs to log in vice reading forums** ;)
ETA (7 hours later): Didn't get one, but I'm still happy for those of you that got one...it was a nice way for TS to compensate you folks for what you went through...even those of you that didn't know you went through it...lol...hey, sorry there are some things you may never get back. Have fun with the stick, enjoy helping others get 'fibers' and don't let the narrow-minded ones that are jealous in the forums get you down...they'd have never gone through what you folks did with such grace...so you deserve something special for the unexpected trauma...and TS is deserving of praise for compensating you in a small way like this.
Thanks for the gift, even though I didn't notice my stuff missing...appreciate you honoring that we were 'affected' even if we didn't file a report about it. Character is who you are when no one's looking, and I appreciate that the devs here are honorable and of good character!
Darn. You guys are so lucky. I didn't get anything but I'm so glad you guys got stuff. You are right, that's what makes the game such a kick. Should have checked the mail. Thank TS! Brilliant fun.
+1 to what beachy said- I didnt have the heart to try to check all my bags everywhere...
So I am not sure that i ever had missing items or not.
happy for you all - and kudos to TS ;)
I lost a bunch of items, but i never told TS... I lost my lil Smelter. It was so sad. And now i here about people getting these dusty sticks? What does that even mean?
@CDOG I would guess the sticks were sent to those who posted in the original message and/or submitted a ticket. It sounded to me like TS thought they compensated most people automatically and thus those who didn't complain were fully compensated without even noticing anything was gone. See the original post for the details.
I lost 10,359 personally written notes from other players in a game that I play. (Supposedly that means they're friends.) The notes are irreplaceable. But I didn't get the elite talisman for it. But I don't mind, because gloating isn't my deal.
I only congratulate people when they are awarded something for an accomplishment.
@CDOG, you don't get a stick for misplacing items yourself...this was because TS had a problem with one of the scripts they developed that took things from people.
@Rannel, I suspect since you are level 5 and and a non-subscriber, you likely weren't affected by the original bug from what I can tell...(and since 10,359 notes would have filled up over 647 big bags which I seriously doubt you can afford at level 5, more evidence that you were likely not remotely affected by this issue)..and this is frankly, only guessing...most of the players that were affected were Alphas/Betas that were early subscription owners because there is an order that TS typically runs their scripts...and since so many of my friends that got early subscriptions (I held out until near launch to get mine) were adversely affected, I can only imagine that the script ran on their accounts before it got to mine...
Trust me, they know precisely who was and who wasn't affected...whether bugs were reported or not...
Just curious how you know that beachy, since in the updated thread post they asked everyone affected to either send or update their bug report? (I'm not mad about this. I am disappointed in how TS handled it.)
From the bug forum kevbob wrote: What's good from this side is we at least know what players were affected for the whole problem.
Quite a lot more information there if you want to read it all through. They certainly believe they know 'most' of the people affected and 'most' of the stuff was returned
And I can't fine the quote, perhaps it was in Live Help, but staff did say that the stick is a one off and will not be made available again. Fiber though will be become available in another way.
I'm guessing Sloth or Alpaca fiber for furnishing, cushions perhaps, quilts? We'll have to wait and see
@Audaria - from the posts in threads that folks who didn't file reports, still got the stick and also as IrenicRhonda pointed out that kevbob specifically said they know who was affected in the bug thread....
Hey, I didn't get one either...but I'm glad they gave them to those whether or not they reported a bug...seems fair to me that all actually affected got the stick, whether or not they were vocal about it.
IrenicRhonda - Yep. I read that whole post, including this:
" We're going to ask you, dear players, either open up a help case (with this handy link) or just re-respond to any case you have already submitted. Doesn't matter if it was marked 'resolved' by us, you can still get into the case and send another update- you can view all your cases here. If you posted what you believe to be missing in this topic, please just give us a link to the post you made in your help case. (Copy the Permalink under your post if you are unsure.) It will be easier for us to keep track of these from the actual help cases opened rather than respond to follow up posts here, which is why we would like to get the cases."
So, yes on the one hand he says they "know the players," but on the other hand he ALSO says they need people to to respond or "re-respond." That causes me to doubt their certainty in their knowledge.
Fair enough Sororia Rose, but then why bring it up here?...just because another game didn't give you something, doesn't mean Glitch should/shouldn't...it's like comparing apples and oranges...I suspected it wasn't Glitch, but then I also thought...dumb to bring it up here, if not applicable...so I made the leap that it was applicable...and then determined it wasn't relevant to that person because there is no way it could be their situation here per my comments...just making a point, that what that poster brought up likely is not applicable in this situation, either way..
I was being a little sarcastic in the '10,xxx notes I lost' comment. Because, uh... nothing is irreplacable here, really. The only game attributes that we 'build on' that are durable and really important are our friends lists and our skills. And badges if you're that stamp-collector type person.
I am a level 5 because I enjoy the lower levels. I also have a Beta Pickle that I earned, didn't buy, and three bags full of less-common cubimals, though not the rarest three or four.
Anybody can open a new account, transfer everything to the new account, and delete the old account.
I have thirty or so bags in my house that could have been affected by the bug. I've read other people's comments here on the forum saying they wish they'd reported what was missing in their bags earlier, because now things are gone, and without reporting exactly what you lost, you don't get it back.
Tiny Speck should have just done a one day rollback when the bug was discovered. If they keep regular backups, and if they don't, well.... anything goes....
Excuse me, Rannel, but I believe what you describe doing is expressly forbidden by TS. You are not supposed to create a new character and then just transfer all a higher level character's goods to that new character. That's a form of muling, and definitely gives the new character an unfair advantage.
It's not something I personally care about. But if that's what you're doing, I'd recommend not making a point of it in the public forums.
Pascale, I don't see it as expressly forbidden. I don't see how transferring a higher level character's things to a new account and then deleting the old account would be giving an unfair advantage. If anything, the lower level character is disadvantaged by not having as large of "fuel" and mood "tanks." It would be nice to have staff clarification on this.
@Audaria You don't see how being a new Level 5 character and yet having stuff that no one of that level could possibly have acquired is a game advantage for that character?
Pascale, the way most of us go around giving stuff to low level characters (currants to buy a house, food, expensive items) it is difficult to think of "stuff that no one of that level could possibly have acquired".
Pascale nothing wrong about it. TS never said that it was against the code.
He didn't say that other people gave it to him. He transferred from one of his own account to another of his own account.
@Pascale - you are only sort of correct - In Stoot's words: " However, we don't want people creating secondary accounts simply for the purpose of giving the real character an advantage they would not otherwise have or doing something which would otherwise be impossible. So, to be explicit, this is not allowed: creating a secondary account, using the first character to give the new character the money to buy a house, having the second character buy a house and give a key to the main character and then just continuing to play the new character as one who effectively owns two houses. "http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/13500/
If Rannel was using his lower level character as a mule to give his upper level main character an advantage (e.g., to buy a second house in a different region or to get resources that the main would not normally get), you'd probably have a point. But, at least in how he's describing it, Rannel seems to be merely starting a new character so he can play the lower level quests again. Nothing wrong with that - and I don't see how he has an advantage by transferring his pickle or some cubis to the lower character - assuming that he is using the lower level as his main.
@pascale - beta pickle does not give you an advantage in the game.... the fact that it is worth something does not mean that s/he is going to sell it. You are assuming that it will be sold - most people keep their special items - certainly, if Rennel needed the money, s/he would not have kept it and transferred it to a lower level character.
Not trying to get on your case about this - there have been other abuses and people will always try to game the system - I just don't think this is the best example.
@Pascale - if he only kept the original account he would still have all those things anyway. This is one player just changing his character. The fact that he has those items at level 5 is really meaningless. As I said, he can actually do less with the level 5 character anyway, so in my opinion (only my opinion) it does not sound like an advantage.
Whoever said "TS knows who was affected" wasn't entirely accurate. I was affected by the bug, and posted in the "missing trophies" bug topic. I subsequently discovered, after moving to my new house, that some of my bags had the last item missing from each.
These were very minor things, like missing elements from an element pouch, missing planks, firefly jar, etc. It's nothing compared to those who lost rare items.
I wasn't given a stick, and I don't think I should have 2 million currants dropped on me for the inconvenience.
I just wanted to clear up the misconception that all affected players were "known".
Hi guys! I just found out you can repair your dusty stick by draging it to your tinkertool. It cost zero energy and then you can release it again. Have no idea is it a bug. Should i report it in bugs forum?
