Harvest and sell just about anything to vendors or at auction: peat, earth, loam, musicblocks, vegetables, herbs, ore, gems, spice, vapor, cherries, grain... almost every item in the game can be sold.
Whenever I need currants I go mining in Ajaya Bliss until my inventory is full with chunks of sparkly. Then I walk over to the tool vendor in Level 4 East and sell them all. Tool vendors pay 80% of the marketworth, every other vendor pays only 70%.
But... I have Mining IV which means I can mine very fast. Plus I can make my own Earthshakers, that's the drink that lets you mine without losing energy.
Other people choose to do a lot of gardening and sell their produce. Or cook up meals and sell them to vendors or via auction. There are many ways in this game to make money. My advise: find out what you like best in Glitch and try to make some money out of that.
Mining, especially at higher levels, often grant bonus gems which are fairly profitable to sell to vendors. The the ore it self can be crushed/smelted and made into other stuff that sells relatively high. It also does not involve a lot of running around too other vendors to buy ingredients (as it would if you focused on cooking). Everything is pretty self contained.
Also thing about abusing no-no at the end of game days to do your crushing.
It is, however, energy intensive. So you will need to stalk up on food. And thing about getting a lot of earthshakers.
Yeah I make tons of currants mining. I'm at the point where I make so many I just give thousands away when projects ask for them. xD
BUT
It's super helpful to have at least 10 Bigger Bags. Otherwise it'd be a pain to have to keep going back to vendors to sell a measly 500 chunks of sparkly and 4 ambers or whatnot.
Mining is profitable but not so fun. I like to mine and mine alot. Instead of selling ore to vendors like alot do i make powders which i sell on auctions. At least this way i do something for others too. I get enough currants from that. Then nothing to do with them - give to others buy food etc.
Lately i try to make my own humbabas and earthshakers too. Making them is alot fun too.
"does mining make u alot of currants in the long run"
Sure... but things level out (mostly) at higher level. At this point, I can support myself almost entirely with music boxes from harvesting. There are a lot of ways to make currants. And folks are creating new ways all the time.
+1 Lila My for the "Better find what makes game fun for you. Currants you will get one or another way."
Good advice.
Be it harvesting, mining, cooking or whatever, if you focus on something you enjoy and spend time doing it, you should easily make money.
Personally I go for harvesting, as I hate being stuck in a cave hitting rocks and being outdoors and walking around in the open suits me. I harvest anything I pass and make my glitch living by selling full stacks of the stuff I find.
Works for me :)
Just make sure it's something you enjoy doing. There's no point deciding to be a miner if you're going to get bored of the caves, and no point deciding to be a harvester if you hate trees.
If you can have fun and make money at the same time... you're pretty much winning :)
I've made a pretty decent profit from selling prepared dishes alone. I'm at lvl 14 and just started mining, so it's really just how you decide to spend your time.
Well yeah, I can mine all I want now with the skills I have, and with tons of currants...
But like everyone else is saying, the game just isn't fun if all I'm doing is mining away to use currants I can't even use, really. I would definitely recommend following everyone's advice in finding what makes the game fun for you. If you're a capitalist, and your only interest is making currants... then I'd suggest going with mining and not worrying with anything else. But only if you think you can be happy just earning more and more currants and not participating in other activities like gardening, harvesting, cooking, etc.
I will just say no one should really... judge?... what muse folks wish to follow in Glitch. (As long as it is not "griefing" or whatever other players.) If someone's self goal is to get as rich as possible, built up a huge nest egg and blow it on onions to cover every surface of their home with? Great! If you want to run around the world sing the theme from Shaft... Fantastic! I support everyone's personal goals.
Bacon-O, I know that "capitalist" may be a politically charged word but I was using it without judgement and by the strictest dictionary definition (i.e. someone whose primary or sole interest is raising currants). You essentially echoed what I said in that I'm suggesting if someone wants to just go after currants, more power to them, and that I'd suggest mining as a means of doing so.
mo0neyman, favour points are essentially a measurement used for various things. They can be gained by many ways, including donating to the shrines of giants, collecting favour quoins, completing achievements/tasks, etc. They can also be used for various things, such as getting an emblem (some of which are useful in advancing in certain skills, among other things), or speeding up skill learning.
Cerulean, yep! We agree! Just shouting out my two cents.
"whats favor points do?"
When you donate stuff to shrines, you get favor points. When you get enough favor points you get an emblem from that particular Giant. BUT you can also spend favor points to greatly speed up learning!
I guess new players will go to currants presuming Glitch is like other games - get more money, get uber gear and slaughter enemies. Well it is different here . But yes if getting in-game money makes you happy why not. Feel free to do so. :)
@mo0neyman favor points helps you shorten skill learning time. They are accumulated when you donate items to shrines.
My friend Vermilion seems content on being very "bohemian" in the game, in that all he wants to do is cheffery and blending even though he makes no currants. He just contently blends or cooks, lol.
Well... I wouldn't BANK on it opening tomorrow, lol. But there's a good chance it's "soon."
Stoot did say 2 days ago that the game would open in about 3 days, from his best estimates.
EDIT: Also, in that thread, Pepper_Rose even said that the plan was for the game to open up tomorrow. Lmao, you can tell that the staff are prepared for exigent circumstances and that there's always SOME chance of the game not opening. Even though that chance is probably tiny.
@mo0neyman, I think in the very beginning you really do need to earn currants. If I remember correctly you have to buy a watering can, a pick and then a fancy pick pretty early on, to finish quests. Then if you want a house, that takes more currants, especially as lately all the 1000 current "apartments" seem to be sold out.
After that, I remember having to save up quite a bit to buy bags, a frying pan, etc. It took me several levels before I had the luxury of not feeling like I needed to be earning currants. I hope that very soon you will be able to explore other aspects of the game as well. Enjoy, and if I can help you with anything, let me know.
Riiiiight... anyway I notice you have a lot of questions and think you should take a look at the Encyclopedia or the unofficial Glitch Wiki to get an idea of all the possibilities in this game.
