Mission: Where in the Glitch is Carmen Sandiego?

That's right, I'm talking about "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego", Glitch style!

After witnessing a Smuggler Mission unfold yesterday, I thought to myself: "Wouldn't it be cool to do a Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego or Where's Waldo type mission within Glitch? All the elements are there, why not?"

So, here's the idea:

Much like the "Ghosts" mission requiring finding 7 ghosts in various locations throughout the world, this mission formula would involve a series of sub-missions (prerequisites) in which the Glitch must track and apprehends each of a Robber's underlings (juju's). Once all the clues are found and the underlings captured, the Master Thief/Robber (like the heart) can be brought to justice.

Characters:

- Anyone can be a witness
- Anything is suspect (Vendors, Mining Rocks, Animals and interactive items on the map)
- Juju's as robbers
- Special colored Juju as master thief

Mission:

At the beginning of this new mission, the Rock gives you the mission introduction and if you accept, said Rock alerts you a theft has been committed, immediately transporting your Glitch to the scene of the crime where you must find clues on the map to infer the suspect's next stop and to apprehend the master Robber. Perhaps one of the Dullite rocks would talk, maybe the vendor saw something, what about that suspicious pig over there or maybe there is an odd clue under that Fruit Tree...

Once the clue is found, you apprehend one of the juju's involved and your glitch must travel through a series of different destinations in an attempt to 1) Shake off any pursuing Juju's trying to stop you and 2) to force you to continue tracking the other robbers and master thief down to bring them to justice.

The mission continues in this manner through 3 randomly set streets, requiring you to travel through many places in the same land (Alakol for example) looking for clues, avoiding getting caught, and apprehending the robbers using your clues until your Glitch finally catches up with the main culprit, at which point the thief is arrested and brought to justice. Reward granted and a "Good Samaritan" Police badge granted.

What do you think?

  • I still haven't managed to finish a proper smuggling, but I'd love to give something like this a try!

  • I just played that stupid game on PC after finishing college world geography with an "A" and couldn't find that stupid lady.

So I like the idea, but why not resurrect some other classic gaming moments. Hugo's House of Horrors anyone? Oregon Trail (okay, that one might be hard, but an exodus to somewhere might be fun..... I'm not a developer.)

Oh, back on subject, Where's Waldo, awesome. Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? Hopefully dead in a ditch somewhere.

Sorry CJ, I like the idea, but not the inspiration of the idea. I suppose if the game weren't so difficult as all that then it might be okay.

Now, my next clue for finding Carmen is.... "This nation's chief export is rice and their capital city is on the mouth of a great river." Hint: Not Shang Hai.

  • LMAO@ Lilac... your answer should be Bangkok, Thailand.

As for the inspiration? I haven't played the game since the 1980's when I owned an Apple IIe and played off of 5 1/4" floppies, but learned a lot from it... Carmen Sandiego is a biatch to play, but it was fun and well, memorable enough to be recalled some 25 years later (shakes head as I date myself).

  • Still laughing at Lilac's "Hopefilly dead in a ditch somewhere" comment...

Renaming the thread from "Mission: Where in the World is Glitchen Ur?" to "Mission: Where in the Glitch is Carmen Sandiego?"

  • I was born in 1985 (Same year as Carmen games)

    Berlin wall fell in 89.

Explains all those questions about the iron curtain I just couldn't seem to 'get.'

Too late for Bangkok, they got away, as usual. I miss the QBasic gorillas.

  • Heh! This reminds me of the prank I did on Goddamn Goblin. The juju's stole his focus orb, so I sent him an express letter saying: From Juju HQ: Chief Juju says "We didn't know you were...  " etc.  "Please take your focus orb back and have mercy on our tribe!"

It was pretty funny. He nearly fell for it.

Okay- back ON topic.. It sounds really fun! Besides, Juju's are fun to play with.

  • I think the idea of a quest that requires investigation is awesome. Hint from the dullite, invisible ink note under the tree (develop with lemon juice), "follow me" whispered the chicken. This could be a lot of fun when the skill-oriented quests start thinning out.

  • Instead of "Where's Waldo" we can do a modified Easter Egg hunt to do a "Where's Froggie" with random spawn points.

  • +a gazillion ESPECIALLY if Kookaburra's ideas are implemented. Forces you to pay attention!
