Looking for a new home: Herb or crop garden?

Hi, i'm looking to move out of my small apartment and i'm wondering where i should go to next. I have about 10.000 Currants for a new home set aside.
It seems to me, that a herb garden would be better, because i could grow purple flowers there. But on the other hand the crop houses seem to have more tree patches available. What would you recommend?

Also if you have any tips on neighbourhoods that have nice homes and are well connected. I'm just starting to learn teleportation, and i would love to have a subway station nearby, as well as a grocery store.

Thanks in advance NsC

  • I would rather have you wait and save up more money than constantly move into new houses. Moving items from house to house takes time and the cooperation of other players, especially when you have items littered all over the ground. I find that crop houses are more useful that firebog houses because herbs, other than silvertongue, are mostly useless. Crops can be harvested to make food such as awesome stew.

  • Note: The only trees which can be grown in Herb Garden Houses are Egg trees. This is because only egg trees can be planted in Dark Patches, and only Dark Patches can contain egg trees.

It is not just More Trees, it is More Options.

But if you love your purple flowers and don't mind only being able to have egg trees, then go ahead.
I haven't seen any Herb houses that have more than one patch though, and Groddle Meadow houses can have up to 5 (one type even sometimes has a dark patch mixed in, which is new)

  • I'm hoping the devs will make pots for us to grow herbs and flowers in, then all the houses can be crop houses, with tree patches. :)

  • Last time, I started in a house with crop and tree plots, then later moved to a firebog house. I chose to move more on the basis of aesthetics than anything else. You can buy crops from produce vendors, but you can't buy a lot of the herbs...though as Macs said, crops are (at this point) more useful than herbs. But I do miss my purple...

  • Right now I have a house with a herb garden.  I like having a herb garden and I'm spending the time filling up some bags with herbs.  I'm waiting to see what else they bring out.  Trying to hold out for a house with both XD  But we'll see.

  • I think that there are more quests that need a crop house, and since you can grow food, it's more beginner friendly. I find more useful the houses with an animal pen.

Later on the game, I'm planning to move to a bog house, or to some new and exciting region.

  • I had a Meadows house before the reset and got quite good at dodging hens and piggies to tend the crops.
This time I saved up for a 50k house in Kajuu but didn't fancy having my lovely pet piggies stashed away at the end of the garden, so I moved them indoors, upstairs with the crop gardens. I just wish their poop didn't vanish when I examine it for seeds, I'd love a compost heap and a "compost" option, to save me having to chase batterflies for guano.

  • I think that for the 30k and 50k houses, you should have both. A small number of patches (say 25% of all the available patches) as herb patches and the other 75% for crops.

I want a bigger house and have the money, but I don't want to buy unless I have the option for both, it seems silly to me that a game that is so wide open, can be so narrow when it comes to the houses.

I guess I'm sort of in the "I paid for it and want to do whatever the glitch I feel like in my own home and on my own property" mind frame.

Does anyone know if this has been considered at all?

  • Rorschach:

Houses won't be so narrow in the future (this regards housing customization): www.glitch.com/forum/genera...

"This is the most important (and largest) feature we are adding to the game. We originally planned to have it in during beta, but it is very complex! (Whole new UIs, hundreds of items, wallpapers, decorations, new kinds of projects for upgrades, different flexible house "frames" which can be extended in different ways ... all do-able, just a lot of work to get right.) Don't expect it before 2012 and you will not be disappointed!" ---Stoot Barfield

  • Thanks Little Miss Giggles, guess I'll just keep stock piling my cash until then. I like my bog house a lot. :D

  • You're welcome! :)

I'm doing the same. I love my cottage and its location/neighborhood so much more than the other options out there right now (though bog houses are pretty awesome) that I'm going to just hang onto it until I see what this customization process will be like. It's very possible I won't need to move at all to get most of what I'd add, from what that stoot-post conveys. :)
