  • Sign me up for a token!  Even if the house has to go back to a 16 slot closet and the garden has no trees or animals I'd love to get my house back.

  • I guess since ghost didn't like the response received in the Ideas Forum... where this belongs, I'll copy my response and link the post here....

As sweet as it sounds and as attached as people get to their places of residence, I actually think this concept gives longer term players an unfair advantage. Such a premise would negate the need for any bureaucracy learning and set up a different 'class of citizen' with an immediate advantage. The knock-on potential for rather ugly clique behavior is massive, and could be interpreted as elitist. Add to that the potential for 'consuming' all of the top end houses, leaving no one with a fair chance of obtaining one is also a risk. I'm of the opinion that keeping certain custom items and the free credits we already received, plus the doubling perks are more than enough acknowledgement for our efforts and no further advantage should be given to alpha or beta testers. As much as we all want to feel special, knowing we are is enough. --- Me

Seriously... now we want to be so exclusive and elitist that we want to hang a reserved sign on the houses for the Super Special People Who Got Lucky Enough To Play Glitch Early?!?!

I also think that a wee trophy for having been part of the alpha and beta testing would be awesome! =)

GOD forbid she have some enthusiasm again so soon!

  • Funny..... this exact same discussion ended only a few short months ago.

If you feel the need to weigh-in on the topic... why not give this forum thread (Alpha Rewards) a read before we wind up repeating ourselves and getting annoyed at a discussion that was already resolved by the development team. Leave the response there so this whole topic can live on in Ideas and this ill conceived cross-posting spam can die.

  • I would also love a "wee trophy" ScillyGirl5! I have also purchased the double credits and will purchase more before open season. Travinara has a point and as much as I would love to keep my house I think we already have an advantage of knowing how to make currants fast to buy a new house.

Truly, I read it when I got in game, and I don't care for rewards.
Others do as your own wonderful thread points out.

  • ghost... Nettiquite 101: creating a post in one space, then copy/pasting the exact same post into another Forum is called cross-posting.... doing something repetatively without waiting for a response is called spam. The fact you chose to make the second post in the more public place (rather than where it belongs) is a ploy for attention and ill conceived.

Editing to add: while I appreciate your obviously professional evaluation and subsequent personal attack on my mental state - I'm *still* trying to help you understand.

  • Um, this thread has taken an unnecessarily hostile turn. I don't think Travinara has done anything wrong, and I'm surprised I'm the only one agreeing with her. Her responses have been calm and reasonable, and the fact that she politely disagreed is no reason for everyone to turn on her.
Posted 19 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm not offended in the slightest, I've had far worse said about me. The comment actually make me think of an old friend of mine. He used to wander around in a kilt for no real reason (still does) which is a little odd in the western US. In friendly company he'd wander around telling people to ask him 'what's under your kilt'... to which he had responses ranging from "my boots and socks, of course" to "ask my wife" to the very baudy ones. Somehow that evolved into asking him 'what's under your skirt' though I've no idea how.

  • Sorry, didn't mean to imply you were offended. Just agreeing with you.

  • Oh that reminds me, we need knickers I feel naked with out them.

Sincere appoligies for spamming or is it flaming or trolling? I don't know the difference sorry. I just got here before Mr Apples did :)

  • Preciate it, and if I were a different person on a different day I might get riled... but today I had to sedate an out of control clinic patient (and subsequently deal with the police because they assaulted someone before we got the shot in) and got vomited on by another. Short of nuclear war I'm not gonna get my blood pressure up.

  • The idea wouldn't give much of an advantage if the house comes with a lock that only the player can unlock.  It can't be unlocked until they earn it with the usual skills, papers and currants.  The house would be put back into the pool after a week.  Having said that, I'm more than good if the idea isn't picked up.
Posted 19 months ago by Tingly Claus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Misha, that would be spamming...trolling is intentionally being annoying and flaming is being mean.

Could we get back on topic, though? Be great to get some other input :)

Edit: Oh good, we're already back on topic :)

  • The whole point of the wipe is to start everyone out on an equal footing.  This idea makes some people more equal than others.

    I'm against it.

  • When I started testing last year, I bought a house.  After the last reset, I bought it again.  It doesn't take long to save up enough currants for a house, especially if you make it a top priority.
Posted 19 months ago by glum pudding Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Also, without having to purchase a house, there's really nothing to do with currants (although they will fix that problem, I'm sure)
Posted 19 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 WindBorn and Cupcake and Millie ;)

Anyway, I'm in favor of having to work for the houses. Helps clear out houses of people who stopped playing at some point during beta. And gives you a nice, specific goal for the first few hours of gameplay. I'd argue that the fear of losing "my" house to someone else was the most terrifying, awesome time I've ever had in glitch!
Posted 19 months ago by Edward Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +10 what @glum said. It's really not such a big deal. Since you already have the advantage of experience, you'll have your house in no time. I thought that I wanted my old house back, but I ended up choosing one that was a few currants cheaper, but had a window. Same 'hood, tho.  I was so worried that I wouldn't get what I wanted. Silly me.

  • I switched to a house that was more on my way in my travels.
Posted 19 months ago by Tingly Claus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sorry Ghost, but I'm against the idea.  As much as I might like to get my current house back post-beta, I think it's most important that the reset result in all players being returned to as even a playing field as possible.  While a home isn't hugely difficult to obtain, it wouldn't be fair to others for alphas/betas to be given one rather than having to work for it.  At worst, if implemented in any form, I would want it as Tingly suggested with a lock that would be removed only after achieving the necessary skills, papers, and currant payment, and with only a short window to complete.  While I wouldn't be completely against a tester trophy or t-shirt, I can also see it being abused as an elitist status symbol by some.  Something I really would rather not see happen.  (Not as possible with a trophy though since the other player would have to actually enter your home, and we know what problems exist with that at the moment.)

  • And anyway, if the final reset is like the final-alpha/pre-beta reset, we will have one or two before things go live to get ourselves together and not be running around like nuts trying to rehash the early game yet again (5th time is the charm?)
Posted 19 months ago by Edward Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sorry Ghost, I don't think any of us deserve a leg-up on the housing market after the reset.  If the devs are thinking ahead ( and I expect they are) there will be plenty of housing available* and the same amount of opportunity to buy.

    * in Alakol too,pleeeease*

  • I fall into the party of "everyone should start on a level playing field." Which, if you think about it, really isn't a completely level playing field, because we've had practical experience in the game, and know what we're doing, which is more priceless than a house, to me. Then again, I've owned 8 different houses just since March, so I'm not particularly attached to any single house. Maybe that will change when we get housing in Ix (and yes, kevbob, that better be WHEN not IF).

  • We already have the advantage of knowing the game inside out. Add reserved houses and you'll have some really pissed newbies. Personally I recommend spending some time helping up newbies. Maybe let us volunteer as live greeters. That would be awesome.
Posted 19 months ago by KitkatCat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Kitkatcat, there already ARE live greeters. We have a greeter group, and badges, and everything :) we get notifications of new players, and get teleported to the start locations to give new players a little intro. It's just not volunteer. Jdawg picks certain players to be greeters.
Posted 19 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Lemme clean that up a bit Cupcake... the development team doesn't randomly pick greeters, the keep their ears to the ground and keep an eye out for players who demonstrate a working knowledge of the game and its mechanics who have demonstrated a willingness to help and patience with new players... and have said they are willing to donate time to the effort. Most of the Greeters are actually shy, quiet people who spend a great deal of time helping people along, even after they've left the start location.

  • I'd actually like to start all over again - no house. I am looking forward to it. Part of the challenge is to get enough money to buy a house...if you take away that challenge you take away part of the game.

Plus you are right, it would be an unfair advantage.

  • Gaah... this thread just makes me think we should have resets more often.

It's Beta, people. It's all going to go away. Get over it.
Posted 19 months ago by clare Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not sure how i got metioned in this!!!

Personally, I think when the game goes live then everyone should start at the beginning - those who have been testing already have the advantage of experience over brand new players in any case.
As for "pulling one out of the bag" I thought that was illegal!
Posted 19 months ago by Bob Apple Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I just like playing, and won't be too bothered with the reset. In fact a clean reset with an even playing field with new players might make the game more enjoyable.  For me the friends I made so far, the fun of contributing to few projects, being among the first few to be inside the tower - these are good tokens by themselves. But hey if Tiny speck wants to give alpha and beta players a special ability to give each other a 'pat in the back', I won't complain ;)

  • They may even wipe just real-estate so we can get houses you can upgrade, our current houses might not last till live.

I think we should all be equal, I just ignored this thread mostly because I have seen a dozen with the same gist.

  • Very good thought Aniloverl, never thought of that ,your so right they may need new codes for changable houses.love the idea of extra yards and changability in homes.so yea lets be all equal and have fun with changing.
Posted 19 months ago by Jellybelly Baby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree that with our knowledge of the game it will not take us long to earn the money to buy which ever house we desire. When it goes live there will be so much housing that we will all be able to find a house we like in a region we like. I look forward to starting over and learning things in a different order.

  • I'm okay with the reset of currants. I am not expecting more rewards for being a tester. I would love to keep my address as I've become very attached to it. However, I will see if its available when the time comes and if not I will deal with hunting around for another.
