Easier way to see what level a person is

It would be great if a person's level was displayed next to their name, either in the chat window or above their heads.  I love giving stuff away to newbies, and it would be so nice to be able to know their level without having to click on them.

  • I agree with this suggestion :P It might also help some people's frustrations if they could see that the person who 'rudely' picks up their set down/accidentally dropped item is actually just a level three glitchbaby just out of the start street :)

  • While I agree that it would be nice to have an easier mechanism in place for viewing a players level I also would not want to see the game cluttered with player stats.  It would detract from the aesthetic of the game to have text/numbers floating over everyone's head.

  • I don't think a level number next to the name would be a bad idea. I too like to gift newbs but it can be so time consuming to find out who is a newb that it has taken me nearly an hour to give away a welcome bag. Newbs in particular seem to run around like mad. :)

  • IIRC, levels were easily visible at one point but were disabled to discourage leveling fever and competitiveness. Did I get some incorrect info?

  • I believe you are correct, Lorelei.

  • There is a kindness quest for up to level 7 players isn't there?

Perhaps only display level up to 7. Or perhaps an L (plate) like a learner driver.

Everyone knows who is new then,  we know to be forgiving for gaffes, and who to give our freebies to

  • Or let player stats be a toggleable view that every glitch could choose to turn on or off as they wish to know more about who is around them.

I'd leave it off, but the request makes sense to me.

  • @Weighticles The Kindly Acts of Randomness quest is to give stuff to five players, level 3-5.

  • I like Weighticles's idea of displaying player level for players below level 5, at least in the popup window when you click on that player.

Also, instead of having player "Info" a second button that must be clicked, why not make it mouseover-able? There is nothing in the resulting Info window that can be clicked, so there is no reason to require a click on "info." The Info window would stay there as long as your mouse kept hovering over "info" and would disappear when you moved the mouse.

  • I totally agree with an easier way to get level info, even if it is displayed only when you click on a glitch (along with the give, hug and splank options). I try to give stuff to youngsters too but by the time the player info display comes up they are usually long gone. I do not want to give cubimals and sammiches to level 35s! In truth, this makes me less generous, as it is a PITA to click through and wait for the player info. I like giving stuff away, but the process of determining level is too cumbersome and has such a high failure rate, I do not do it as much as I would like to.

  • This is really only needed for one quest, and I think we should be embracing a culture of tolerance over all, regardless of level.

Just because someone is level 40 and does something we perceive as dickish, doesn't mean they're necessarily being a dick. Just because someone is level 3 and does something dickish doesn't mean they aren't being a dick.

Arguing for this so that you can make assumptions about people's behavior is ridiculous.

  • OMG. Just put the character's level next to their name already!

  • ... no?

  • IIRC, having the level next to the name was tried during Alpha and created sufficient issues that it was removed fairly quickly.

  • i don't want my level displayed.

it's none of anybody's business but my own.

and as far as giving gifts to low level players, i don't even check level when i give things to people. i mean, it's nice and all to give things to newer players, but if you're only doing it for your quest, i'd just as well you have to go throught he trouble of clicking the information tab while you're at it.

if you haven't a spirit of full generosity, you should have to at least go through some effort.

if i could hide my level, my badges AND my skills from my profile, i would. i don't care what your level is, and i don't want you to care about mine.

  • I like the idea of a "be nice to me" graphical noobie indicator, but don't see a way to implement it that wouldn't be abused in some way.

  • re: flask

The problem is, the quest comes on pretty early. I'm at level 10. I just started playing the game a few days ago, and I haven't fully mastered it. I don't have that many currants or items to share. If I have a quest that says gift to levels 3, 4 and 5, I kind of have to prioritize that, otherwise I'll find myself with an empty inventory very quickly.

I think a better solution here would be to make the quest itself all inclusive. "Give items to five separate players" or something would be a lot easier than just 3, 4 and 5.

  • You can save that kindness quest for when you're a few levels higher up, btw. I delayed doing the wintry place quest for ages until it was easy to do. And the tree one too til I had a wood one in my yard :)

As for gifting, I can find out anyone's level, and yes, sometimes I am interested, but mainly I'd like the mouseover option because I do welcome wagon bag o gifts donations for lower levels (as well as gifting generally) and damn, it's true, those glitch babies move fast :)
