Obvious thread -- No-No powder updates & changes

So, Im not sure if this is actually where I should leave this but this is where I'm putting it.

So, no-no powder got updated (Im not going to go back & copypasta or link the thread I read that on because you can find it yourself) but in short, they lessened the length of the rush & also implemented diminishing returns on repeat uses of it. The reason stated for the change was to 'balance the game', something I can definitely see as a no-no user. I mean, I completely agree that it gave me quite an advantage comparatively to people who didnt use it.

HOWEVER, my only plight with the update is that if I'm going to see diminishing returns, why is the beginning rush so much shorter than it used to be? (I get about 5 minutes my first time) and why are the consequences the same? In reptrospect, I didnt make my own no-no powder & it was usually a pricey drug. I paid about 1000 currants an hour to keep it up. -- I'm just saying that to mention it already had its drawbacks.

SO -- In short -- although I agree changes shoud be made to the drug, I feel like the time differences on it are a bit harsh, and if those wont be changed, I definitely should not be sentenced to 'super pooped' when I die whilst on the crash. Taking into consideration it would get to last for about 45 seconds before crashing after only 4-5 uses, you would literally have to spend all your time making no-no powder just to survive, and if you didnt you would have to wait until the next game day to do anything besides talk. Just something to think about for Tiny Speck & I really hope these changes are altered in an upcoming test. :)

  • Sounds a little like real life, no? I like a little bit of reality in my fantasy, haha.

  • No No was long overdue for a tweak, and this is a good one.  Before, it was all too easy to stay on nono for days at a time, timing any deaths to coincidence with the new day for that full energy refill.  Meanwhile, you could zip your way through projects, donations, xp, the gamut,  It was too beneficial before but now it sounds about right.

FWIW, I haven't used nono for quite some time and have been able to get through projects, donations, massive leveling, etc., so it's not like not having it prevents you from getting things done.

  • darn, that 'stay on no-no for 60 minutes' achievement will be a challenge now!

  • @Zeeberk - I will agree with you that it was pretty easy to stay on Nono, but I'll say that hoo boy, if you forgot to set your timer...lol.  But here's the thing: with the new system, I've got 20-some packets I'm just not going to use.  I powered into Alchemy and Admixing because it was a better energy-management tool than trying to worry about food and ingredients - which I *hate* doing.  With the update to Nono, I'm simply going to ignore the Nono, scratch my head about keeping ingredients on hand for Awesome Stew, and long-term, I'll probably play a hell of a lot less.

I like a little bit of reality in my fantasy, but why bother having a portion of the game if you're not going to *somehow* encourage your players to use it?

    So boo on the changes.

  • I actually found that when I stopped using nono, I manged my energy better without it than worrying about when the buffer was up.  It doesn't have to be awesome stew.  Stacks of potatoes can get you a long way, as can earthshakers or gurly drinks or bubble tea or anything with a nice special buff to it.  I think energy management is part and parcel of the game.  Nono made it all to easy a clickfest-farmville thing, frankly (and gave one hell of an advantage to people on projects).

I agree that it's difficult when you go for months relying on a game strategy for that to suddenly change.  But once upon a time, we had unlimited quoins and meditation and food... and when those changed, we all survived.  The change for nono was long overdue... and changes like this are to be expected in beta.

Also, you can still get by on the skills you have by just making currants off of their products and buying food from auction or the food vendor... no need to suddenly have to specialize in cooking.  The alchemy skill tree is fairly profitable, leaving plenty for food costs. ;-)

  • Well, I'll admit, I didn't used to be quite as heavy a no-no addict as the new changes have pushed me to becoming.  Before I did no-no on occasion except for the occasional death, but now... I'm on a serious die-off fest.  LOL  I'm not sure if this is a bug or what have you, but I'm finding super-pooped to be intermittent.  I have to play around with it more to see when exactly it kicks in or if it's variable, but right now, the exact nature of it's eluding me.  However, as a result of the diminishing returns and since no-no's so easy to make, I've been pursuing the zombie achivement quite aggressively.  Might not be possible this test or next but...  If there's a definite time to when super-pooped kicks in, then with a bit of math, it'd be possible to figure out when to start the die-off for a day to get max # of deaths with no-no and minimal pain a la super-pooped.  Don't know if the devs intended to make dying quite this easy though.  ^^;

  • If the game wants to make no-no powder balanced  by keeping the changes they've made to the rush the same, I just believe that the crash should come with lesser consequences then. Thats my biggest thing.

  • I was just saying yesterday that a few doses of no-no powder in a day should kill you, lol.

The thing is... when you consider this from the perspective of a new user, or someone who will join the game when it actually opens, it's completely different. Sure, they'll wish things would bode better for them with excessive use of no-no powder, but to be honest they'll just learn to live with it because they never got to experience it when it was over-powered.

Just like crack in the 80s compared to crack now, lol.

  • there's a reason they call it nono!

the way it used to be was yesyes!

also, if you were paying 1000 for it, you were getting ripped off.  it's the easiest powder to make with little energy cost put into it.  i'd be upset, too, if i paid 1000 and got so little juice from it, but that's never been the true value of the powder anyway. ;-)

  • 1000 per about an hours use, and I made enough money of it to make it well worth the buy, and I mostly avoid the complex skills to make my gameplay as simple as possible so Admixing & cooking & whatnot arent at the top of my learning list.

  • Why is it that you can so easily consume an entire stack of no-no powder at once? Why isn't it limited to only sniffing one at a time?

I also agree that the returns should diminish much slower than they currently do. It's much too fast now.

  • You know, you can buy what food you need to eat w/o learning to cook, ever. 1000 currants works out to be 1000 energy anyhow, my point being that playing without no no isnt exactly a hardship. And you don't need cooking skills to eat.

Since we went into beta, I think I've done less than 10 packets. The previous test, I was on no no constantly. I'm not kidding in that energy management has not been a big hardship w/o it.

  • I have a noob question. Is there a way of "healing" from Rush without simply dying or using more No-No? Probably not but it's be cool if they implemented some sort of "healing powder" or whatever.

  • Bah...I've played the game quite effectively using Earthshakers and without using a tiny speck (LOL) of  No-No.

I still wonder if the name came from this Ringo Starr song:
