Moving Platforms

We already have floating platforms. Why not have platforms that move too?

  • Because this isn't a platforming game, and it's meant to be accessible to everyone. We've already had one quest that involved precision jumping (the rook one), and that turned out terribly.

Still, maybe some could be used as an escalator of sorts? That might be cool.

  • The Rook's Woods one was awesome, just requires skill! And a lot of tweaking from the devs to make it less har-i mean buggy. ;)

  • It really was incredibly buggy though. Died a massive number of times without coming close to the blocks. It's worse because Glitch's performance is currently bad, so if something skipped you were very likely to die.

Moving platforms would be interesting, but I hardly see the point, except in cases where it really serves a purpose, like the escalator suggestion above.

  • "it's meant to be accessible to everyone" Is it? I assume by everyone you mean...well, who do you mean? Players with a dexterity handicap? Children?

It doesn't seem to me like Glitch is all that geared towards being inclusive, there are plenty of places where you do need skills to progress. The spinach tree quest, Rainbow Run or even some of the regular areas where you have to jump to move forward. I don't see how moving platforms would be very much different. I didn't hear anything about the Rook quest being scratched because of precision jumping being a failed idea- I think the main problem there was lag which made the jumping almost impossible.

  • The rook's wood quest was scrapped? It was still around during the last test and I completed it then. I noticed it had been slightly modified to give you a hint as to how to complete it this time around.

  • Sorry, I guess it sounds like that when I say it- I was expressing doubt about it needing to be abandoned because of too much skill being required- not suggesting it HAD been abandoned! :D

    (hello, communication skills...)

  • I like the idea of moving platforms actually. I think Glitch should have something to offer for anyone who would be looking for an additional challenge. It need not be something that every player should be obliged to undertake, but something that a player can choose out of his own free will, and should probably yield higher reward value than the usual quests.

And I did enjoy the rook quest, despite the lag.

And yes, if platforms were indeed to move, they should have at least a useful purpose (eg reaching a high spot, transport to a hidden item, etc).

  • I don't mind the idea of putting them in quests, but yes, if they're put in the main game, they should serve a useful purpose.
