Thieves

I know it wasn't bright to let them in my house. They seemed really nice. They stole a bunch of stuff from me including over 10 emblems.

edit: I took the name out. I apologize for posting names and was unaware it was bad protocol. I try to be a good glitch. Happy Thanksgiving all.

  • When you specifically ask them not to pick anything up off your floor, they become a thief. Was it dumb to trust? Probably. That doesn't change the behavior. If that is how you want to play, I will remember to block you and then everything in my world will be fine.

  • Oh c'mon, I'm just kidding. Here, give me your key and I will prove to you I'm an honest guy. And make sure you leave some cubis, emblems and senor funpickle on the floor, cause otherwise I can't prove how much you can trust me.
Posted 13 months ago by Electric Wizard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks for the warning Bender. Good to know how you play.
Posted 13 months ago by Kashtana Subscriber! | Permalink
  • What warning? I just told you I'm an honest guy and even offered to prove it.

Edit: Thanks for the 'ignore', how very polite of you, I can already see how honest and kind player you are.

  • It's not funny, imo. I don't like the "I'll take what I want" attitude. If that is how you play, why would I join your game? You made it very clear in both your posts that you think my issue is ridiculous and you believe they had every right to take what they wanted. Am I wrong?

  • Yeah you're wrong, I'm just trolling and would probably rage is someone took something mine, but I have to be honest with you, I'd never make a thread and make a fuss out of it because I would understand that this is something that happend because I made a mistake of trusting someone I don't know and I'd have only myself to blame.
My gf gave me the key to her house and I did this, and guess what? She lol'd. I also took some meat collectors and she beat me with a belt (yes, I enjoyed it), but this also tought me not to give my key to people who might abuse it. Might is the key word here!
    Get it? Key word!
So before they make a better system regarding keys, and they said they will, no need to make a fuss over it. Of course, it is your right to do so, but it is also my right to point out the funny things about it.
Now that I've proven I'm an OK guy, I see no reason why not to give me your key so I can prove to you how there still is honest glitchen out here!

  • Writing this off as something that happened because the OP "made a mistake" and that she only has herself to blame is seriously backwards. Since when is it right to blame the victim of a crime?

Trusting someone and having that trust broken sucks. Why should one assume the guilt of being responsible for the breach of trust on top of that? Short answer - they shouldn't. If someone's only mistake is trusting a person, they didn't make a mistake, regardless of the outcome.

  • @Dinah
The problem is in Glitch you have a hard time identifying what constitutes a crime and what's not. You will sure to find many conflicting views and perspectives on the matter. Of course, final decision comes from TS staff so we just have to trust they will make a good judgement.

  • My comment had nothing to do with the punishment of the person who took the items. It has to do with the reactions of the people on the forums. Honestly, it really doesn't matter what the resolution is. My point is that when something bad happens to a person, instead of blaming them and telling them they should have known better, the compassionate thing to do would be simply to say, "I'm sorry that happened to you."
Posted 13 months ago by Belle Z. Bub Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Their mistake was not realising that picking something off the floor isn't a crime.  It might not be nice or polite,  but it's not a crime.

"If someone's only mistake is trusting a person, they didn't make a mistake, regardless of the outcome."

Well,  hopefully they learnt to be more careful who they place their trust in. My house is littered with valuables,  so I'm incredibly careful about who I let in.

  • So, Dinah, you're saying when somebody does something that you feel is bad to you, you should make a topic in the forums where people should express their compassion for your misery? Can you imagine what theese forums would look like in a week?
Posted 13 months ago by Electric Wizard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • tl:dr for the entire thread.
Stop giving your keys out to people you can't trust.
And stop leaving valuables laying around your house, like it's a vault.

  • @Bender - Invalid argument. I didn't say they should post a thing. All I said was that you should be more compassionate than to blame the victim.

@shexycorin - It appears maybe the use of the word "crime" may not have been the best idea. What I intended there was more of a parallel to what happens in real life where people are blamed for crimes that are committed against them. That wasn't clear. I apologize. I am not saying that the person who picked up the items committed a crime in any fashion. This is a game. If it doesn't break the ToS, it can't really be considered a crime.

Just because it wasn't a breach of the ToS, doesn't mean it was ok.
Posted 13 months ago by Belle Z. Bub Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, but: "Since when is it right to blame the victim of a crime?" - since the "victim" started a "I'm robbed, gimme compassion" topic, with no constructive proposals or discussion whatsoever.
Posted 13 months ago by Electric Wizard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Bender
I think the original intention of the OP is to warn other people, not expecting compassion. He/She probably didn't know at first that these things happen all the time in the game. With new players joining Glitch, threads like this are to be expected. And to be fair, just like it is ok to pick something off the floor, it is also ok to post this kind of thread, it is also ok to spread warning about someone through private messages.

  • "All I said was that you should be more compassionate than to blame the victim."
I can't honestly have the least bit of compassion for anyone gullible enough to let someone in their house, knowing how people are. To honestly sit there and expect someone not to steal anything, is absolute insanity.
Hell, only have a select few hold my keys because if they steal anything, it's probably going to be some pig poop or bubbles.
Then again, why are you setting yourself up in a position to be stolen from? Stop leaving your "precious" stuff around your house, and invest in some bigger bags. Hell, that's what I do.
The only thing in my closet are some seeds, appliances, and probably an emblem or two.
Stop being so damn gullible, and coming to the forums for a pity party.

We know there are asshole out there.
    We know it sucks.
All you can honestly do is get the heck over it.

Because at the end of the day, it's not like they're stealing anything from your life besides the 5 minutes it takes to get a virtual item back.

    TL:DR version: Get over it
Posted 13 months ago by Volkov Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Somebody was welcomed into the OP's house and stole ten emblems. He posted a thread to warn people about the thief, by name. After learning that sharing the name so publicly was not allowed, he took the name out.

I am grateful to the OP's original intention to warn others.

  • OP's intention on warning others of a rather well known problem since what, Alpha?
Posted 13 months ago by Volkov Subscriber! | Permalink
  • New players join everyday who are not aware of these problems.  Some have likely never played a community online game before.  Unfortunately they have tough lessons to  learn, and decisions to make about trusting others.  Why make it harder on them by bashing them for posting?

  • 32. level is not really a new player
Posted 13 months ago by Electric Wizard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I was making a generalization, not speaking about the OP specifically.  Also, level 32 doesn't mean he's been playing since Alpha.
Posted 13 months ago by Raiyne Day Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ok, so there are definite feelings about this. My original intention was to warn others as Raiyne is trying to explain for me. Thank you Raiyne. Yes, I am level 32. Yes, I know the problem and trusted even though. Yes, it is just pixels and they are replaceable. I do not read the forums on a regular basis. I do not play MMO's like they are my life.

My intention was to warn new players and/or players like myself. If you do not want to hear about it, you do not have the obligation to read my thread. Posting about how dumb it is to post is ridiculous, imo.

  • Wow what happened in this thread?!  ~O.o~

If someone is let into another player's house and steals emblems off the floor that's stealing.  The person needs to be punished regardless of whether the house owner explicitly told them not to steal or not.  It should be implicit.  Do you go into friends houses irl and steal things off their floor or shelves?

    Thought not.

  • There should be a wall of shame and for each offending player should be a link to their profile and snapshots of chat logs. That should make people think twice before doing something like this.

    Yes!
Let's bully everyone who does something bad in our little virtual world until they either quit, or end themselves!

Two wrongs aren't making a right.
Nor am I condoning what he/she did.

  • Volkov has a good point, and this is exactly why the devs asked us NOT to call out in the forums.  Otherwise I could rally people to harass any player I like with some made-up accusation (i.e. "Sloppy Ketchup spilled my sno-cone, wrote "NICKLBACK RULEZ" on my face with a Sharpie and called my most-favored god a fatty!") with absolutely no means of proof of any wrongdoing.  Treat your Glitch house like your real house: some people don't lock their doors, some people have alarms.  To each his own, but you can no more trust a forum poster than a doorbell ringer...
Posted 13 months ago by Sloppy Ketchup Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Serra,

You may find yourself suspended from the game if you go through with that idea.  It is against the rules to gang up on another player, and if they think you are trying to do that, all they have to do is report you.

Tiny Speck staff can see mail, IMs, and in-game chats.  You really don't want to be encouraging that kind of thing here.

  • Seriously guys, some of you have gone too far in the wrong direction. It is in the Community Guidelines that retaliation is considered a form of griefing and will get you in just as much trouble as any other form of ToS breaking.

At this point, all anyone needs to take from this is that people out there are trying to scam their way into your homes. Don't fall for it.

Also, don't be a jerk because someone else did fall for it.
Posted 13 months ago by Belle Z. Bub Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I believe Dinah is correct. I want to make it clear that I do not condone harassing other players. I think it is appropriate to tell people individually about my experience so they can be warned. NOT so they can harass. The appropriate response is to block a player that you do not enjoy playing with. If someone tries to scam their way into your home, don't do it and block them. They can play with people who play the way they do and I can play with people who play the way I do.

The devs made a choice to allow things to be picked up off a house's floor. That means if you allow someone in they can take things. I appreciate the outpouring of support. I really do. These are the people I put on my friends list and will help if anything happens to them. Let's all enjoy this beautiful game they have created and have fun!

  • Haha..I like the person who posted that if you posted a name and someone traced their IP and killed them, then you would be responsible. This is a game and stuff like this happens all the time in other games. Sucks that it happened, but some people are way out of whack with reality.

  • The way I see it there's a danger not only in letting a strange glitch inside your house, but even of visiting a strange glitch's house, you could be accused of stealing something that wasnt there.
I worry about both the above, especially since I really want to see a full icon collection (even pay a viewing fee), not sure how to go about it in the safest and most honest way possible.
