I do love the mailboxes but I would also like to see mail slots for those that aren't our friends as a friend of mine and I left a bunch of stuff in front of one of the houses of our neighbors and I believe someone else took it because he hasn't been online. We left if as an apology as we made a bunch of butterflies but they all seemed to have gravitated to the front of his house.
To mail someone right now, they just need to be a friend of yours. So, you can friend them, mail them, and then un-friend them if you like (or keep them as a friend). They don't need to make you a friend of theirs for you to mail them.
Or maybe just make it so that you can mail anyone in the world at all, unless they are blocking you.
Yes, left some things outside my neighbor's houses recently, and I suspect someone came along and took some of them before my neighbors could claim them...know it was open space and free for the taking, but for the most part, our street is pretty quiet and we've been able to do this in the past. Alas, the letterboxes at the house would allow for this...it's nice finding a surprise at your door when you log in...the mailboxes are useful, but rather impersonal since you have to go to a communal mailbox to collect your mail. Also, it would be nice to drop off something to new neighbors that may you haven't friended yet, to welcome them to the neighborhood.
Whenever I leave a present at someone's house I know there is a chance they'll never get it. In fact I've left something for someone and they later said they never got it. A gift "drop box" on houses would let the recipient know, hey, I came by to see you, you weren't here, so I'm going to leave you a little present. It's more personal and friendly and neighborly than mail.
I confess, i once stole some stuff sweetly placed at my neighbor's doorstep. At the time i thought, maybe they left it for the neighborhood, but now i just dunno what i was thinking! I'd offer to replace it now but dont even remember what it was! Anyway, door presents are cool!
A way to leave presents at a house would be nice, even with the current mail system it is just really cute to come home and see a present there. Maybe there could be a way to leave something with a persons gnome, or have items "lock" on a persons doorstep
