I Apologize

Just wanted to apologize to all the people on my friends lists I sent invites to that were offended, I wasn't trying to spam anyone.  I was super bored so I decided to make a bunch of invitations and send them to everyone on my friends list.  I love to get mail, and I thought i t would be cool to personally invite people (I would love to receive an invite in the mail!) but a lot of people mailed me back nasty messages and got upset.  I honestly thought if you weren't interested, you could just drop the note and forget about it.  Again, sorry if I pissed anyone off.

  • Really? People got upset? I thought it was really nice idea - not spammy at all.

  • Laurali - big *hug*!

    I agree with dopiaza.

If you have a group and you work to support it and have future plans you of course want to share to fun.

People really need not be so uptight about something as basic as an invite.

Would you be offended in real-life if you received an invite?

  • Seriously!? People got upset?
Well, I personally thank you for all the time and trouble it had to be to make all the invites AND mail them.
I think it was very considerate of you to include everyone on your list. When I got mine, I said something like this to my friends-- "I got an invitation in the mail. She must have invited everyone on her list. That had to take a ton of time!"
Someone said there were invitations spread through the mines. I guess some people might get bothered by that, but there are notes everywhere in the world. I like reading them. If I don't care for the message or even if I do, I just move along. Hard to imagine being angered by invitations.
Anyway, sorry you felt you had to apologize for being nice. What a world!
Thanks for going to so much trouble. I'm sure it will be a super party!

  • Thanks all.  I've just finished learning all the gardening skills and am working on the cooking skills, in my opinion these aren't the most fun skills, so I've had a lot of time this test when I am sitting around waiting for things to finish growing!  It took a lot of time to send them all lol, glad that you all enjoyed it.

  • Aww, I am so sorry.  I don't understand why people do things like that.  People, if you don't like it, ignore it!  There is no excuse for rudeness, the best solution is to apologize for being so mean.

  • What invites? *Curious*

I'd only consider it spam if it would be the same mail dozens of times or the same mail daily...still, then I'd kindly tell you I wouldn't read the mails anymore and it would be a waste of your efforts to mail the same mail still. As I suppose you are not planning on sending out massmailings multiple times a day and every day, I can't think of how it could be considered spam... I assume we are talking about ingame mail? I hardly get mail, so it would be a nice surprise :)

  • That's what I thought too Miriamele!  I only send *one* invitation to each person on my friends list!

  • Well I loved getting my invite, thank you =) There are some very uptight people in this game, don't let them get to you...just don't bother inviting them next time ;-) *hugs*

  • Hi Laurali,
I've requested your buddyship!  Your kind of 'stalking' I like!!!!
You were doing something nice - and something that this game encourages.  Don't apologize.
Some people are just 'plop' heads  :-)

When you gave me a thank-you note for coming i was REALLY surprised and i thought that was very sweet.... thank you!!

  • I was happy to receive the invitation in the mail -- thank you -- but I found a ton of notes on the ground in many, many streets, which I think might be what people were really complaining about.  We don't have any limits to the number of notes which can be left on the ground by one person on one street, which I think is a potential problem; however, in this case, I didn't find more than three or four notes in one place, so it wasn't a big deal to just pick them up.

  • Hi!

I added you as friend!  I've only ever gotten 2 mails and those were to finish quests. :(

I would love to get mail.

  • Lorelei, I had the totally opposite reaction. I felt very flattered to have a "personal" invite. I am truly shocked that anyone would find that offensive. Hugs to you and thank you for all your effort.

@Joy La Maru, I added you as a friend if you don't mind and will try to remember to send you mail when the game opens again!
Posted 17 months ago by marycontrary Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes glum pudding, but at most I left 4 notes on a street.  I typically only left 2.  And I made sure each of them said "End Of World Party 7/24" just so that people could mouse over, see that it was not for them if they weren't interested, and then just move on.  I don't understand how it could have inconvenienced anyone.  Especially as most of the time I dropped them where there was nothing else around, so that it wouldn't interfere with day to day activities in game.
Posted 17 months ago by Laurali Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And I am talking in particular about the mail, because people mailed me back complaining about receiving spam, but that was the furthest from my intentions.  I didn't want to spam everyone, I only sent one invitation per person on my friends list.  And I personally LOVE getting mail, I would have thought it was great if someone else did the same for me.  But nobody ever complained *to me* about finding any on streets, only about the mails they received.

  • I dropped two notes regarding winning the lottery... from some guy in Nigeria who emailed me spam.
    Both were taken.. lol.
Posted 17 months ago by Aero Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hahaha I heard about those Aero.

I didn't realize people felt the need to pick up notes.  Can't they just leave it on the ground and run past if they find it offensive in some way?
Posted 17 months ago by Laurali Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I thought we determined in the "A**hole" thread that if you find something offensive, you remove it, if you have the power to do so.  At least, that is what I got out of it.

Laurali, don't sweat this!  Some people felt spammed,  some people were charmed, some didn't notice, the party was the biggest EVAR in the history of EoT parties, and striatic has the screenshot to prove it...
Posted 17 months ago by Nanookie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Pfft, don't understand it either really.  It can only really be spam if you bombarded someone over and over anyway!  No, I would not want to find 50 different spams in my mailbox, but then again, I don't regard a singular party invite to people on a friend list to be spam.

I love seeing my Mailbox bounce anyway ;-)

ETA, oh yes I noticed some of your fliers too, but I just read one, chuckled and moved on. :-)

  • Laurali... Finding your note on the street made my day. I wanted to go to earlier parties but didn't know about them, had a great time at the party, thought it was a great location. If people do not wish to receive mail from you, they can just take you off their friends list, can't they?

And loved Aero's trickster note at the new street. He capture the grandiose tone of those particular real email frauds.
Posted 17 months ago by sakmet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Nanookie: Thanks! I guess I didn't mean offensive literally, since there was no offensive content in the notes I left other than the sheer number of them.

I am still confused how it could be such a problem for players to have notes littering the ground if they don't want to read them or pick them up, they can just move along.  And I even left a bunch of treats on like half the notes, although those did get picked up rather quickly (usually 5 seconds after I dropped them lol)
Posted 17 months ago by Laurali Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Laurali, in every group there is a "party pooper" or two. You ran past me in the caves and dropped a note, I read it and talked to my friends in chat (they know you). I was not upset that the notes were passed out like that I thought it was pretty special that you were letting everyone know. I had not ever stayed on till the end and was excited to stay this time for the "end of test" party. You can "spam" my mail anytime, I like watching that box dance around (even though a couple times it danced so wild it scared the carp out of me). Keep up the sunny attitude Laurali, that is what makes this game fun!

  • hey Laurali! I really liked your invite by mail, feel free to send me whenever you want :)
The letters on the floor was cute too, at least for me

I love leaving notes around too, but if some people don't like it, they should just ignore it instead of being rude, I think.

It was a in-game message anyway, nothing like commercial spams promoting another links.
    thanks anyway :)

  • I kept my invite until I made it to the party. Mail is rare, and like the other posters, I was very happy to see it. I finally had to drop it to make room while I gathered ingredients and made drinks for the party.

  • I'm not on your friends list but I saw a note in the mines and shared it with some of my friends who came to the party. WTH kind of friends are on your list that respond to an invite with nasty messages? Lordy Lordy, I want people to lighten up and BE NICER!

I'm sorry your "friends" were so offended that they made it a priority to be rude to you.

But I'm gonna add you all if you aren't already on my list and make sure next time to send a party favor in the mail, perhaps people won't mind so much if they get some alcohol in them!
