Two Questions about Shrines

OK, despite having been around here a while now, there are two things that still confuse me about shrines:

1. If I've yet to get my first emblem from a given giant, am I locked out of spending the full amount of favor I have with that giant on a skill?

2. Do I get favor points for learning new skills, or only for completing the quests that those new skills unlock?

Thanks in advance!

  • If you make it to 1,000 favor the first time you are on your way to get an emblem from a giant, you will get the emblem and those 1,000 favor dissappear. If you don't want the emblem, but want to spend the favor, I suggest you keep careful vigil over that favor and spend it when you get close to 900 or so, or if you're daring enough, 990.

Learning new skills does not earn you any favor. You can spend favor to help learn new skills more quickly, though. Completing quests often gives you favor, but so do many other things, like favor quoins and street projects.

ETA: Also, it would be helpful for you to know that for every emblem you are carrying for any particular giant, that will increase your max favor at that giant's shrine by 100. For example, if I have 1 emblem of Zille in my bag, and I donate at a shrine to Zille again, my max favor (until another emblem) will be 1100. If I am carrying 7 emblems of Lem, and I go to a shrine to Lem, my max favor would be 1700.

  • Answer 1) By full amount do you mean you have max favor with the giant (1000/1000)? If so you are stuck with an emblem. Before your first emblem the max favor points you can spend are 999/1000 in one go.

Answer 2) You do not get favor points for learning the skills in them self. The quest that accompanies the new skill will give you favor for that skill's giant.

  • I'm now clear on #2, so thanks for that!  As for #1, I here's what I'm talking about: I have 946 favor points with Zillie, but the game will only let me spend 864 on a skill for which Zillie is the primary giant.

  • You can only speed it up to half of the current learning time. :)

  • Cerulean, you don't need to be carrying the emblems, you just need to have earned them.
You can also be carrying emblems you didn't earn, so that's not going to up your limit either.

As for how much it will let you speed up skills, Dave is right, you can only speed up your skill to make it half of it's time. If you wait an hour without speeding it up, then you can speed it to half of it's remaining time. If you do it in stages, it's a little harder to know exactly how much you can speed it up, but in the end, when the shrine stops you, you've done the most you can.

  • Carrying emblems can be a good thing, though, because of the Rook attacks. So once you earn and spend your first emblems make sure to hold onto at least one per shrine if you can, in the off chance that a Rook attack occurs. Donating emblems back to the shrines help in defeating it...

...not that I'm a proponent of persecuting our feathery overlords. Long live the Rook, I say. <_<

  • @Biohazard... I could have sworn that when I spent or got rid of emblems that my max favor at shriners went down. Either I was imagining things or they changed it. xD

AND YEAH Emblems arel ike ninja stars to use in rook attackssssssss.
