Reducing graphic quality

This is an option I would expect every mmo to have (especially if it uses flash) - yet when I asked live help in game whether this was possible, they told me it wasn't.

At the moment I have a rather slow internet connection, and often experience a frustrating amount of lag with simple interactions in Glitch.

Am i missing an option to improve game speed? Or will something of the like be introduced soon?

  • I wish we could get a low quality option, too.  Especially for parties :P

  • I'm no expert on flash, but I wouldn't have thought vectors had any benefit from reducing graphic quality?  (hence the ability to resize the window/images very flexibly).  Maybe it'd be more useful to have the ability to turn off certain animations or effects or something like that - and to answer the question, I don't think there is that option at the moment, no.

  • People have ask this in the "Ideas" forum.  Don't remember any answers yet.

  • If I had to guess, essentially what you're asking is "please do all the graphics over again because I have a slow internet connection."

    I wouldn't.  I don't imagine they will either.  Sorry.

  • I don't think they need to redo their graphic. Flash allows you to set the graphic between high, medium, and low. By default, you can do that just by right clicking on flash for it (example), but not everyone allows that.

  • What Elly said.

And I don't have a slow internet connection but I feel for those who have.

  • What does the speed of your connection have to do with graphic quality?  After the initial download of the graphics at the landing pages, the data sent high vs low graphics is the same.

  • maybe the  initial download is the problem....?

  • Flash has display quality settings and that's what's being asked about here. It (theoretically) helps with CPU/performance by losing some of the details and has nothing to do with file size or bandwidth usage. However, in the case of Glitch, we found that it made no difference at all because of [complicated stuff].

HOWEVER, we are hard at work testing new approaches to take advantage of improved rendering in Flash 11 and are optimistic about upcoming performance improvements. (Also, we have thought about preferences to disable some of the more complicated effects or prevent loading images for other players. No plans yet, but it might prove to be worth it.)

  • Awesome. is. Stoot.

Actually, I really appreciate the fact that the staff are improving this game every day, heck, every second.

  • Hooray hooray. I have a pretty decent machine that can run Glitch fine, but improved rendering is always welcome.

  • Thanks Stoot, that would be much appreciated. :)
