considering what a negative connotation twee has, I would cap it at 3% max.
3% twee
11% Wash (curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, whoah, good bible)
22% Nicely malty Assam
18% Mad World cover, sung by Voldemort
34% Afternoon naps
12% Thousand layer lasagna with fresh homemade noodles
i would have to say that currently glitch is *at least* 30% Twee, so from my perspective almost everyone here is requesting a substantial reduction in Twee.
I put Glitch far closer to majority-twee status, I'll randomly assign it 66% on the magic panda scale.
My husband is curious, but has proclaimed Glitch "impossibly twee" and likely won't play as a result. A reduction in tweeness would be acceptable and maybe welcome, but I'm not sure it's feasible at this point, and it's almost surely unlikely.
rofl - I loved serfer's post! +1
There's tweeness definitely. How about we analyse which things aren't twee - I want to know where dark chocolate hobnobs and Voldemort come in.
* Tree poison is dripping in dark treacleness (should thast be treacality?)
* Its a terrible shock the first time you come home to find all your pigs have turned into bacon - thats definitely Voldemort.
* Hell is not twee - the music is way too cool!
* You could argue that killing rocks is harsh - especially when hitting them in the face...
* And what about crystalising fireflies - what kind of tweeness is that? We'll have a league against cruelty to fireflies next and all plain crystals will be banned. As for baking them into bricks in one of those infernal machines........ Plain devilish!
* And messing around examining and picking up piggy plops and guano is definitely way down dirty.
* And what do they do with all those hog-ties piggies we donate to projects at times?
* And do you remember the Interrogation Room? What kind of dark was that? After Eight Mints!!!!!
Subject matter isn't what Twee is founded on, it is all in the presentation.
~Not Twee~
Tree Poison : Actually not Twee in any way. Legitimately dark. Proof that "cartoony" doesn't automatically equal Twee.
Pigs/Bacon : Nibbling is about as Twee as it gets, but starvation death isn't 'presented' as such, thus not Twee.
Fireflies : Not Twee.
Hog Tied Piggies : Not Twee.
Interrogation Room : Not Twee .. also not at all prominent.
~Twee~
Hell : is Twee. Takes a normally dark subject and makes it kyoot by having you scramble around Tweely squishing stuff and poof! no harm done.
Killing Rocks : They grow back quickly and while they complain about being hit with a pick, they do so humourously. Twee.
Piggy Plops: Twee as heck. Taking something normally gross and poopy and turning it into good clean fun is totally Twee.
Hmmm, take your point on some of those Striatic. They aren't dark because they've been made humourous or harmless.
I'm not sure I'd say twee thought either - that makes me think of cottages with flowery curtains and little ole grannies with yappy dogs and plaid rugs.
Maybe a new category - I'm sure serfer could come up with one?
Its an interesing question Striatic, I think I've been trying to push the tweeness away because I like the game and am generally NOT into anything twee.
Maybe the humour also makes the twee into something slightly other? And therefore more acceptable? There is something pretty dodgy about nibbling and petting piggies after all.
I guess somewhere the Devs have some overarching balance they are trying to keep (or maybe not!). Does Glitch have a philosophy?
Sorry Striatic - hope you don't mind if I differ with you a little on this one. Shucks, we can't agree on everything after all!
;) Conclusion - 60% twee
agree with ER that it's about 2/3rd twee, and think it's at a pretty good sweet spot. the rook might change things, but then the twee-lovers amongst us will have a fun game to save the twee!
I was unaware that twee had negative connotations. I've never considered it a negative thing!
I'm bad with numbers but did recently describe the game as "twee as fuck" when a friend was over and saw me playing and asked me to tell him about the game.
So, that's my answer. Glitch is twee as fuck. And I like it that way.
Oh that meme's been going around for decades :) I never really lumped Twee in with that. To me it's more lighthearted, sincere, and nostalgic than it is immature or infantile. I guess I can see the crossover though.
Yes, 11% Wash is about right, Nanookie! But an additional 6% River Tam would also be appreciated. Perhaps a pretty bonnet on which to swear revenge in the wardrobe?
