Purchased a broken tool through auctions

I purchased a fancy pick through the auctions and when it arrived it was broken. I don't know whether this was a case of someone selling a broken fancy pick intentionally (in which case, it should have been advertised as broken in the auction so I would know not to buy it, or better yet, not allow people to auction broken tools? That'd be nice.), or somehow it became broken during the delivery (which seems more serious).

If the seller intentionally sold a broken tool, is there any way for me to get my money back? I bought it thinking they had made it with tinkering (thus the slight decrease in cost over buying from a vendor).

  • There was nearly same problem with powders before. Now in auctions it shows how many powders are in stack.

  • There is no refund on auctions, but the tool can be repaired to full use, unlike powders which will go away once used.

  • there used to be a listing for broken tools.  some people would buy them for the tinkertool quest.  surprised that specific listing is missing now.

  • Tibbi, I just doublechecked with hitherto, our chief auctioneer and explained we don't have the ability to show the state of a tool in an auction like that yet, so it doesn't look like we had that. But, it is something on the to do list to make better. (There are a number of things we need to do for auction improvements also. :)

  • You could always try to contact the seller to work something  out.  That's what I would do.  If they care about their reputation they  might refund you.   Can't hurt to try.

    Unless, of course, they were selling it at a fraction of the going rate.

  • Fenris;

    I don't know where my current Currant total is, but I will be in game tonight by 8:00 pm CST (or is it still CDT darn W changed things and my brain is still working on the 1984 versions LoL) at the latest.

     I'll buy the broken one from you or trade you a new one for it.  Saves me the hassle of breaking my own for Tinkering.

    That being said, Caveat Emptor, buyer beware.  The tool (hardware) vendors are usually fairly easy to find.  Usually cheaper than the AH as well.  Besides there are more trees and piggies and chooks to harvest as you walk.

  • Wouldn't you  have to meet up in game to trade unless you want to pay to mail each other the tools?

    I hope this gets fixed so that when I am able to make my own tools (should be one or two skills away for me) buyers on auction won't have to worry about what condition it is in.   I remember before the reset that it was not easy to sell my freshly made tools on auction.

  • Yes, Treesa we'll have to meet or pay postage.  But not a problem in my book it will just take a few minutes to harvest my way there ;p

    I would like to see this done as well.  I'd like to be able to lowball vendor prices with my tools but that is when people get suspicious of it being less than salutory.

  • I fixed up the pick with my tinkertool eventually, it was a huge energy loss though, and if it's not meant to be broken through the auctions it should probably be noted as a bug.

  • I could have sworn there was a "Broken Tools" Listing at one time.  Oh well, beta was such a blur. :)
