Aoi watch [Edit: Level 60!]

Aoi is very close to reaching level 60, currently the highest level in the game, more than a million xp points ahead of number 2, Tripearl Jam.

This rises a question: What happens with xp when you reach level 60? One of these should be true, but which one?:

- You stop getting xp. [Edit: Aoi says this is the right answer.]
- You continue getting xp, but don't level up. (This would be complicated whenever the level cap is raised.)
- You get xp and you level up. (This would mean that, contrary to what devs said, there is no real level cap.)

Soon we will know!

[EDIT: Aoi already reached level 60. Her own account.]

  • I suspect they will either raise the Cap or come up with some alternative accounting.  If this game is to last for years, there has to be something more because most Glitches will reach the Cap before the first anniversary.

  • I dearly hope the cap is temporary, just to help slow the fastest person down until more high level content is added or something (really, I don't understand why there is a cap in the first place). If the fastest person can reach it within weeks, the people that play the game alot but aren't really trying to level up will reach it within months, and then.... I don't know what is expected of us. I hope it isn't to just stop playing because there's no way to advance any further. I was planning on using up my year subscription and then continuing even beyond that...

If the dev's concern is that higher level people are too powerful, there is an easy fix: make the increase in mood/energy/quoin value gained per level smaller with each level obtained past a certain point (probably level 60 since there is already a natural barrier in place there). So, instead of an increase in 100 energy for each level past 60, make it an increase in 90, then 80, then 70... down to zero--I don't care, just don't slap down an artificial limit on our only indicator of how far we've progressed in the many hours of game play we've had.

Personally, if I reach a level cap I will be greatly annoyed, but continue to play the game anyway because of the many other benefits I get from it. I know, however, that many people are very level driven, and will feel like they reached end-game if they are told that they reached a level limit. Supposedly, this game doesn't have an end-game, so that is contrary to the whole spirit of Glitch.

  • I think the idea is to gradually phase in content, and level caps are a useful tool to let the devs work on adding features piecemeal.  Glitch is an eternal work in progress and as with most games, only a handful of people will rush to the cap in a few weeks.  The vast majority of the population will take considerably longer.  By then, new content will be ready to be released.  I've played enough online games.  The script is usually the same.  Caps are there to give the team time to get new stuff out in chunks.

Also: seriously? I prepped a nice little icon and gem surrounded spot, prepped FRAPS, inched my way down to19xp to level and got a broccoli so I could level with the ridiculousness of getting 5xp upon activating it. Lessie-- so harvesting a tree, 5xp (14xp left)... watering a tree, 12xp (2xp left)...  "Oh, oh! You've just earned a slightly sodden H2Oh! Award."

...Yeah, I think that pretty much sums up my Glitch-y life.

Edit: Oh, and the answer is that it just stops: "You are well Experienced." The website XP bar says '0/-4,810,318 XP' (Yes, negative.)

  • So, I spend every 4 (waking, sometimes sleeping) hours donating to shrines to the max XP, skilling up everything I can, and I'm nowhere near where you are at, Aoi.

    What's your secret?

  • Congrats Aoi!

I really didn't believe Level 60 was a cap, since it's not prime and since they told us level 40 was the cap previously, but it wasn't.

Kudos to you for making it there first, even with the sad discovery that it's true!
