Firefly ranching tips: multiple hives

If you have, or visit, a home street with multiple firefly hives, and they are spawning way fewer than 10 fireflies/hive, that means one or more of the hives needs restoring. BUT! In my experience, every firefly has to be gone from the street before the hives that need restoring will go "poof!" This is easy to achieve if there are only two hives or if most of the hives on a street need restoring at the same time. So if you're interested in the iMG from restoring resources and have a little energy to spare, consider whistling for partially-full jars to clear out the local population so they can start fresh. If there are too darned many hives around for you to catch every last firefly before the healthy hives respawn, consider enlisting a few of your fellow Glitchen for a simultaneous harvest and that should give the 0% hives a chance to collapse.

The more you know :)

ETA: This was written from a route-curator's perspective, so that whole thing about restoring other people's hives ... well, I haven't heard objections to doing it on the Fireflies & Barnacles Route. I can't & don't speak for any other Glitchen.

  • Thank you Aleph Zero for the information about hives not restoring. I have a couple of hives in my backyard and couldn't figure out why when the one got to zero it didn't go into restore mode. Eventually it did but I never made the connection to the second hive :-)

    Very helpful information!

  • Very helpful Zero.  Thanks for the info about the one..... but, and this is just me and I would hope some others,  I would not presume to do someone's project I just leave the items they need and let them get the iMG  and just enjoy the tour and I leave little prezzies just because.

  • I have four hives on my street and when I first installed them, it took awhile for them to generate enough fireflies to catch a full complement.  Now, they're fine, and regenerate pretty fast, but it took a few Ur-days of not farming them to get there.  Just another tip!

  • I find that you just have to hang about and wait for them... It seems like they respawn better with people around

  • @Lilith, lol!
@AlmostSilver, I curate the Barnacles & Fireflies resource route and anybody on the route had better expect me to get all restore-y on their hives. It's part of my job description. [So, route people, leave a note if you want your route-specific resources untended!] I'll try not to restore willy-nilly on other people's streets. Thanks for the reminder.
@shhexy corin, I think the same thing. My old bog home fireflies used to love it when I would hang out and use the fuelmaker. It totally got them in the spawning mood, somehow. *shrugs* Who am I to judge?

  • I just discovered this today! I am on Aleph's route and can vouch for his findings (and not just because you're an awesome curator).

Another tip from a fellow rancher:
If you have two or more hives and have difficulties getting that last full jar, try this: Get all the fireflies from your first hive. Then, carry it over to the second hive and open it again. It will release all the fireflies but you will have more in one location to catch the second time around.

(Please note: this only works about 90% of the time. Sometimes the little guys just wanna stay outside)
