Native Keybindings for Glitch

All,

I had a conversation with some players in Global chat about two days ago and was surprised how many people were unaware of the native (not client made macros) key bindings in Glitch. When myself and someone, who's name I forget, started telling people that you can do about 90% of your actions (excluding cooking, crystalizing and a few others) JUST with keyboard commands, people got very interested.

Regardless of whether this was by design or for people internally developing the game, I want to thank the TS group for including these awesome bindings and it just further proves these guys know what they're doing as keybinding in Action script requires a minimum of 8 lines of code PER key command and is quickly becoming a lost art, so I applaud them for putting in the extra efforts on this.

The truth is, using the keyboard is faster that point click. Once you remember them, "grinding" the game itself to do the mundane things becomes easier (NOTE: Grinding refers to the process of leveling, not referring to refining or crushing). As such, I'd like the devs or any other users or devs/ga's to share their knowledge to what they know on key commands and perhaps we can build a wiki entry on this.

So, here's my list:

Top Row 1 key: Surprised (Same as :O )
Top Row 2 key: Mad (Same as :( )
Top Row 3 key: Smile (same as LOL, :) or hehe)
Top Row 4 key: Sleep / Return from sleep

L key:      Log/Quest Log open
B key:      Backpack/Bag open
F key:      Friendly Rock open
W key:     Opens menu on highlighted item
M key:     Map open Docked/Stationary
TAB key: Undocked/Unsticky Map popup
ESC key: Unselect/Back out of menu

Arrow keys:(In help Dialog): Walking OR move highligher in personal bags / own objects list
WSDA keys: (In help Dialog): Forward, Back, Left, Right walk
SPACE key: (In help Dialog):  Jump / Levitate

SHIFT + ENTER
keys: Toggle between current location and bags / items below
CTRL + ENTER keys: Toggle between gameplay and Chat windows
ENTER key:Select; Open Bag, Select item, Mine, Talk to, Pet, Water, Harvest, Nibble, Feed, Milk, Harvest etc.

Any others or ones that are a bit off from above?

Final note on this... Keyboard strokes Vs. Mouse Over Point/ Click is a user preference. Some people just prefer using the mouse and that's just fine. Being that I am an avid UNIX geek of 20 years, I just prefer the keyboard. So, please don't assume I am putting anyone down by saying that the keyboard is faster as it was inferred to based on personal preference.

  • Here's the link to the Glitch FAQ on keybindings.

And sometimes even the devs aren't even aware of what keybindings are working. @kevbob was very surprised in the Live Help channel that the "B" keybind was fully functional and working right (I tested it as far as knew how).

Thanks for opening up this thread, @c0mad0r. They really need to "sticky" a lot of these useful topics.

  • +1 Fokian!

Dude, I didn't even know that page existed or I would have only referenced the ones not on that list! Thanks!

There are a lot more not listed in there though that do work (TAB, SHIFT+ENTER, CTRL+ENTER within a popup-window, etc). I'd like to see a more complete list and only devs + players can make that happen, thus the topic opening.

  • Some updates on this one:

W = opens menu on highlighted item from the play screen

Not sure I should share this, but here's some of the developers tools:

press and hold Q and tap P = debug menu (gives FPS, MEM, MS)
press and hold Q and tap O = debug menu (shows server side Action Script and flash file calls)

Hitting the same sequence of keys will close the corresponding window

  • Q&P has been shared by developers so people can report FPS and lag times. I usually leave it running. They encouraged people to "bug" slow FPS when it occurred and possible memory leaks. I've had one tell me the Q&O option, but I forget who and why.
