Having a URL or not isn't a problem, the general content of the note is. I'd be annoyed if it were something "spammy," like trying to advertise a website that is commercial and otherwise nothing to do with Glitch. If you are sharing info about a fun or interesting location or activity in Glitch, or just something you like, like a funny video or website, I don't think that's a problem.
If it's a way to drive traffic to your blog, or your online shop, or the charity you're raising funds for, or similar sites then I'd say it doesn't belong on a note in Glitch.
My question would be "who is your audience, and why would every single player who walks down that street need to know that information"? You may find that posting in a group would give you more direct access to the folks who need to know the information you're sharing.
To me context is the key. Do you have an example of the kind of url you have in mind?
I am curious to hear staff weigh in on this. I know some games forbid the posting of urls in chat and some spend a fair amount of time ineffectually policing such posts. In-game Notes are a different creature. Interested to see what happens with that.
Personally I don't want to see anything in-game that pulls me to something non-Glitch related.
Also, according to the TOS:
Commercial Use and Unauthorized Access: You agree not to:
*provide a link to any web sites that promote any product or any service
Just to be safe, I'd like to say that yes, it would be bad form. Beyond pure spam, I don't think we want to read notes only to find more youtube videos. We have an off-topic forum for that. I guess that when I find a note like that I'll be inclined to pick it up and get rid of it.
Thanks everyone! I was thinking of both Glitch & non-Glitch urls--I have an addiction to combining things I love, and was thinking of ways to do that with Glitch and poetry (e.g. I dropped a couple notes with little poems on them during the last test--hopefully not a faux pas itself). Anyway, this helps--I'll stick to Glitch-related urls, if any.
Yeah I'm a pioneer in leaving urls in notes, sending people to my purple auctions. I would never leave urls to other sites or blogs though. Only glitch or don draper related stuff.
there was once a gnome with a repeating URL to an outside website, placed on the ladder in a groddle forest housing quarter. you couldn't avoid it on the way to your home unless you used spinach since it was right on the ladder.
While on the topic of note etiquette...could folks that leave notes please take the time to title their notes? I find it most annoying to come upon those that are still just 'a note'. Would rather they be labeled as to the content of the note (even if just generically) whether it is an event, a joke, a limerick, ghost sighting, etc. Some are very good about titling their notes, others just leave them to the default, and I will sometimes ignore them if in a rush.
