Hmm... well, I guess I'm ambivalent on this one. I'm not sure why it matters what the progress bar looks like, really. It's a nice surprise to see something unexpected, but otherwise I don't think I'll care in the end.... It's kind of cute, but seems weird that I need such a huge reminder of which action it is that I'm taking at that moment... I'm pretty sure I already know that since I'm the one that chose to do it.
So far I have seen the new bubbly font for tree interaction and massaging butterflies. I like them, they are a good change from bars moving across. It is better than a line moving to the right.
Ugh. I'm already wondering how long I can make my currants & supplies last without performing any action that will trigger one of these messages. I never would have predicted that typography would be the reason I'd end up quitting Glitch -- in fact, I hadn't even envisioned quitting Glitch -- but this may push me over the edge.
Maybe they could let us choose which style of notifications we want (or give us the option to turn them off, as others have suggested).
The new bars will be much more inviting to new players that the plain ol' bars that made everything seem to take an eternity to accomplish in the beginning. Remember when you were a baby glitch?
Those plain bars were a turn off to new players imo.
Cute seems to take less time whether it be true or not.
I know the original poster thinks the bubble letters are cute .So , out of respect towards the original poster- I went and made a "I dont like them -please change them back or do something " thread over in the ideas forum .
Please feel free to stop by there too and make your glitch-y voice heard about the new progress bars. www.glitch.com/forum/ideas/... . ;)
I assume those of you who are threatening to stop playing also refuse to use Twitter, Skype, Yelp, Squidoo, Blogspot or any of the other of litterally THOUSANDS of companies who use similar fonts and styles for their corporate logos. Not just an incidental part of their websites, but to represent their corporate identitiy. If it is too childish/girlish/twee/cutsey/whatever for a progress bar, it surely can not be acceptable for a logo.
I personally *love* LOVE how puffy and cute the letters are now and while I agree they are a *trifle* too big I think that's part of their charm. They don't take up that much screen space really and it's really nice and clear and easy to read. And the part where it says "busy doing stuff," OMG I literally lol every. single. time.
Yes I might be a simpleton >_> but happy little things like this really make my day. ^_^
Kookaburra, I dont use (have never used) twitter, I dont like skype ...i have a phone, What is yelp and squidoo?, I cancelled my facebook with the recent changes.
Does that help? However, I will not quit over this. I have figured out that I really love to harvest and cant stand the new bubble fonts so much that I am now just standing in place and only chatting in GC instead of harvesting.
Really enjoying the new progress bars. Easy to see, much easier to click on the X to stop progress or change a choice. The harvest looks very cook in the Badlands too. TY TS.
I am not sure I like them either to be honest. This is advertised as an adult game yet it seems to get more and more childish as we go along. No wonder it appeals to the kiddies that want to play it. I guess I will have to live with it but while your out mining and constantly see the cutsey lettering it makes me want to barf.
I'm also not keen on the font, but my main issues are the size (far too big), positioning (too low, some are over my Glitches forehead) & that it seems to take longer to do things now.
Because of the first 2 they seem really intrusive within the game, & if i'm already not liking them, seeing them over & over again will just make it worse (I seriously doubt i will just get used to them). However, the cancel is a nice addition.
I think they are not useful enough to take up so much room, and the design is incongruous with the rest of glitch, and the enormous "x" dismiss icon next to the word is like the punchline to a terrible joke--of COURSE you want to dismiss these weird puffy letters. For the record: I am a fan of puffy letters. Where they are needed.
My actions with the new "progress" words sloooowwwwwed down. I think barnacles are taking 50% more time. Ouch.
I am torn on their looks. On one hand: cute! I like how the colors change with different tree actions. On the other hand, they are huge and cover up part of my hat.
Ok, after trying to force myself to stare at it, this what I have figured out...
I have an astigmatism. The size of the bar, mixed with the white outline filling with color is actually painful. I find myself having to look away to avoid it. I did not have a problem with the old status bars, but this I can not handle.
So, maybe getting rid of the white outline, and making it smaller would help? (It would still look pretty ugly, but maybe it wouldnt hurt)
Accessibility is my big concern with the new bars-- since they're transparent and outlined in white, they can be very difficult to distinguish from the either the background or the asset they're interacting with. (The fastest example I can think of is 'petting a fruit tree;' the combination of pink tree and pink progress fill lacks contrast, despite the slight difference between the two pinks. It's probably not enough of a color change to register on some people.)
I'm partially sighted and find these new bars a little hard on my eyes; I'd prefer to have the option to switch them to some higher-contrast style. I imagine users with contrast issues or colorblindness might want that as well.
I LOVE them Tiny Speck! And all the different colours!
ps, I hate to be the one to break it to you 'it's not masculine enough' crowd, but any man/boy playing Glitch is already FIRMLY in touch with his feminine side. Embrace it!
omg! @ Pomponella! you got me dying lol........Idk, change is nice. I think it's cute but obviously we all have our own opinions. They dont hurt my eyes, lol
I hate them and that's being polite. There very childish looking and I actually find them patronising. Like I don't know i'm MINING already. If you want to encourage all the kids you say you don't want playing, then your doing a great job of making it look like a game for kiddies :(
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I must admit that when I first played this game, everything looked so wacky, irreverent, and unlike anything I ever played before.
Until I saw my first progress bar.
Then I thought "Really? You couldn't do any better than that old chestnut?"
