I now know the REAL reason I hate quests.

I have always disliked (hated) going on quests in games, and it finally dawned on me why. Almost all quests require your character to go someplace, which usually includes having to use a map. I am dyslexic and have no sense of direction. I hardly know my left hand from my right (it's true ... you don't believe me, but it's true). Using a map is like torture to me. I get all turned around. And I forget if a landmark I memorized should be on my right or my left when I backtrack in order to get home. Coming upon intersections makes my heart sink. Breadcrumbs could be left on a road or trail to guide me back home, but unless each had a little pointing arrow showing the right way to go, I'd walk the wrong way 6 times out of ten.

I'm working on the Teleporting Skill for this reason.

  • Did you know you can "Set Destination" on the map, and then just click on the arrows to automatically go where you need to?

Though Teleporting is indeed a useful thing to have.

  • Thank you, Annuska. Yes, I once was able to do the "Set Destination" thing, but forgot all the steps involved, so... in my little glitchen house I stay.

  • Hi Ann! Here is how you do set destination:

Click on the Map tab that is at the top of your friends list
Clich the little arrow and choose Open Large Version
In the Search box, type your destination and select
It will blink a couple of times and be a different color than the other streets
Click on it and choose Set as Destination

Now there will be a little gray box that says Next Street, with an arrow pointing where to go! You can even click on the arrow and it will start you walking.

I know it sounds complicated but you will get the hang of it in no time!

  • I just copied and pasted your instructions. THANKS, jello!

  • "Hmm... for some reason I can't tell you how to get there from here."

is what I keep getting. It has something to do with the programming of this game. I have to put my Glitch someplace or exit out someplace or do something in order to get this function to work.

    Any advice? I'm so close!

  • Leave your home street (via the iMG menu) and enter the wold proper and it should work.

  • Yup, as long as you're on a "normal" street in Ur the GPS should work just fine

  • Ann-pardon me while I talk to you as I would if I were Piglet and you were Pooh. I do understand dyslexia and some I know have it.

Start from where you are and go to the map. Click away and read the streets till you find where you want to be. Click that place on the map. It should set you up with auto "go-to" map feature as jello described. If it does not, I recommend writing some things down.
    A) the name of the street and the "town" its located in
    B) the "towns" that are nearby
    C) where you are now and what "town"
Then although it might take a little time, go to the map of the town you want to go to and work backwards to where you are (writing it down along the way). Setting the destination as far away as the map will let you and using jello's directions should get you closer than you are now. Good luck and remember you can't get lost in Glitch. You might not know where you are but you will always know where you are NOT.

  • Two of my best friends (sisters, plus their dad) had quite bad dyslexia. One played bassoon... she would go home and memorize the music for hours so she could play with us. Anyway, they had the same issue. My concern though is that now, the streets don't unlock until you go there, which is probably going to prevent any help from TP skills. Maybe you should ask for a special consideration from TS for them to unlock them. I'm pretty sure dyslexia's a good reason for that.

  • Thank you Zig, La M, Holly, and Lady ...

The way I did it before was to somehow land at the first place I wanted to be, then somehow get home, then somehow land at the second place I wanted to be, then somehow get home, and on and on and on. I dared not try to get from point A to point B by walking, because I knew I would end up at point C. I will ask for a special consideration from TS, because trying to navigate the lands makes me feel so miserable.

  • Ann- the other thing you could do is get a seeing eye friend so to speak :)

  • Well, I'm soldiering on. Learning about what upward- turned arrows mean. Almost figuring out how to get to a new, different place when home and looking at map. Oh, well. I'm trying.

BTW, Holly Waterfall ... I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I copied and pasted everything you wrote. It is very helpful.

  • All you experienced gamers out there - get ready to do a collective eyeroll and some muttering.

I did not see that up in the upper right hand corner - while you are strolling along - is a big black arrow pointing in the direction you need to be going. Yeah, I know. I'm a bit lame. BUT - in my defense - I have never played a game that had helpful arrows.

Anyway, I haven't gotten lost and I've been running around for hours. I did need a little help in learning that all ladders need not look like ladders. Some are made of toe holds jutting out from the face of a steep cliff.

I'm doing fine and I hope everyone is having a good time.

  • You can click that black arrow and it will do the walking for you.

If you don't stop to do anything while it is walking for you, it will even take you to the next street without having to click the correct street sign

Once you're on the new street, take a moment to enjoy the scenery, click the black arrow again and off you go!

When you reach your destination, the arrow will be gone and it will tell you "you have arrived at your destination"

  • And one more thing... You don't have to find your way home again (if going to your home street is what you want to do). Just click the IMG menu up next to your face and then click "Go Home". You're back on your home street. Or just type /home in local chat to do the same thing. Type /house in local chat to go straight into your house from anywhere. To go back to Ur click the IMG cloud again and then click "Back to World" or just type /leave in local chat. Either one will put you back on the Ur street you last left for home from.

  • YAY Ann-glad I (we all) could help. Sometimes it takes a village (many responses in a post) to help us get where we are going :)

If you see me in game and need help, just message me!

  • Thank you, Zira! I could've used your help when a quest instructed me to dig some dirt with a fellow glitch. Although I had at least 7 friends by that time, I was afraid to ask the ones who were online for help... what if my request for assistance annoyed them?
I went into a chat room and an amazing baron helped me dig, and also - for no reason - showered me with supplies I needed!
So you'll be hearing from me soon!

  • Also it's not just you. I've gotten the "you can't get there from here" message while in the world. I'm 95% sure it's because I was trying to walk from one continent to the other. I needed to take the subway, instead.

Feel free to ask for a guide to follow if it comes up again. I'd be willing.
