Ick Ick Ick - Can't believe the game continues to remain inflexible to the players' personal desires...and would randomly make a decision like this for us...
I like the idea of 'funeral' planning and getting to choose your death symbol...after all they get to in the US national cemeteries...have a generic one, but for those of us that do want to choose, we get to choose one (cross, star of David, crescent and star, etc)...include in the choices the giant symbols if need be. Not a fan of deiun's idea, because while I might collaterally incur 'favor' from the giants, I am not intentionally donating to any giant's shrines because I don't agree with that aspect of the game (and won't compromise my values/beliefs on a game). I'd like the game to remain flexible, and for the players to get to make choices, vice the game making choices for me...
But I get that I'm in the minority here for being very disappointed that they removed one of the things I liked about the game (a cross at my grave site)...guess my options are to never die again, or to stop playing the game...
I didn't get to see this in game today as I wasn't able to be on a great deal. I look forward to viewing these in game the next time its open. It sounds like a good solution was reached.
Er, then why is there a poster for the Church of Alph in the game?! I get that it's a joke for most...but for some of us it indicates that giants are treated like gods in this game. Frankly, there is a whole thread on this already, so I don't really want to open this wound again. If they aren't gods, then why have their symbol on your grave marker?! Again, it highlights that they are considered god-like.
Again, I'd like to have an option to choose, rather than having the game 'decide' for me...this is true for many aspects of this game which I find a bit 'inflexible'. I think vegans and vegetarians should have non-meat choices to accomplish goals, even though I'm a carnivore. I would like to have options for house design, which I hear are coming 'some day'. I'd like for those that don't drink to have non-alcoholic options for completing quests. I think a game can be flexible AND fun...this game seems to still be a bit 'inflexible' and their way or hit the highway in their thinking vice providing options. I get that not everyone will be happy either...but providing a bit more flexibility, especially in these more sensitive areas, would provide a way for more people to play in harmony vice alienating populations. Just my 2 cents since this is beta...and yes, I know I will likely be ignored since I realize I'm in a minority here.
I think my grave marker rocks. I died on purpose, just to see what it would look like. Although I was surprised to see Mab's symbol since she's not at the top of my donations list.
You kind of do have a choice in the matter. The Giant symbol at the top looks to be the Giant you have the most favor with. Either that or I got the same one twice :D The crosses brought a real world religion into a fictitious land, and I really think it disrupted the suspension of reality. I'm glad they worked a brilliant Glitchy solution.
I applaud the devs for making this change ONLY because the new grave markers look cool and more glitchy.
I'm trying really hard to understand how anyone could now upset that the cross is gone from the game. And saying it is because they don't listen to the players? This whole change was because of a player suggestion along with MANY other players supporting it. This is a fantasy game, not your church. If you can't tell the difference, maybe you should go sit in church instead of playing a game.
Some see differences between treating like a fictional god, treating as a fictional god, and treating as a god. Some see no difference. Some see the differences, but want to maintain a distance from the line. B3achy is kinda unique in the middle ground of accepting the giving of favor to giants in certain situations. I wanted to be sure b3achy wasn't under a misimpression, cuz it's silly to try to change a mind.
Point taken to strip out 'real world' religious symbols...Can I have an option to have NO Giant symbol on my gravemarker since I prefer to remain Giant neutral/agnostic in this game?
I wonder what the actual mechanism is for these markers appearing? Is it the Giant we donate to most, the Giant whose street we die on, or...?
I'm happy with the way it is, but that's because right now, there doesn't seem to be much of a reason to side with one Giant over all the others. If that changes later in the game, if there are distinct benefits to being a supporter of a particular Giant, then I will start caring about whose symbol I see.
In any case I'm super happy to see the symbol of a real life religion taken out of the game. :)
