How does closing a discussion thread work? Honest question!

I swear to Lem that I'm not being snarky.  I've just noticed recently that staff have been closing/threatening to close discussion threads that get intense or heated, and I've never seen that before (in the 4+ months I've been playing, that is).  I'm just wondering, is that a common thing?  What are the criteria for closing a thread?

Someone satisfy my curiosity! And no flaming!

  • This was far more common in another online game I played--very rare here, comparatively. It depends on the people in charge of the forums, and how much they are willing to let through. It has to be done, though: if things get too nasty it isn't good for anyone.

  • Take a look at the Community Guidelines
    http://www.glitch.com/guidelines/

Absolutely no personal attacks or hateful speech directed at others’ gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic background or anything else you should have the good sense not to hate on.

  • When it starts to get antagonistic, as well. Or when something needs a wrap up and not be continued. I can give you examples via mail in game.

  • Cool - thanks for the answers guys!  I haven't played any other online games like this, so I didn't have any experience to draw from :p  You people are great :D

  • The thing that disturbs me is that there is a post that was 'closed' today with the rationale given that the OP had been edited/deleted.  That sounds like the 'rule' is that the OPer owns a thread, and can simply edit the OP in such a way as to get it closed.

I was hoping the 'default status' was that once a thread starts, it belongs to everyone that participates, and only would be 'closed' if it spun wildly out of control.

There is nothing at all close to the heavy hand of those in charge of the forums at B.F. that we suffered under at Faunasphere.  Tiny Speck is much more open to free discussion.
