Repairing skill improvement

Repairing tools is too good there isn't really a penalty except energy cost which isn't much. You could make it so that repairing a tool lowers its maximum durability and a skilled repair guy will lower its durability by less. That will ensure that all tools eventually wear out and must be replaced.

  • I *think* they do get increasingly worn out. Certainly some things take a couple of tinkers to repair. And the energy cost for repairing some items is pretty high.

By the time you're proficient with the tinkertool, you've probably got enough money to rebuy anything you need. I think it's neat that tinkering encourages you to keep using the same item!

  • Yea but energy is pretty easy to refill so theres no real penalty for reusing the same tool over and over. I dunno if the max durability goes down than tinkering makes tools last a really long time instead of forever.

  • tinkertooling is useful later on for crafting tools.

and the tools themselves shouldn't be disposable.

tinkertooling encounters real constraints when used during tool usage spikes during projects.

so you say that it is easy to refill energy used tinkertooling, but that's mostly during normal gameplay when you aren't doing that many operations with the tool in a short period of time.

when engaging in "heavy duty" project work, you might be doing 100s of operations every five minutes. tools break all the time in that scenario and it can help to have a dedicated tinkertooler at a work site. this is because not only are tools breaking all the time, but the tinkertools used to fix the tools also start breaking rapidly.
