Cupboards vs piles on the floor

I was wondering if there is any difference between storing things in the cupboard in your house or simply throwing everything on the floor (which is much more realistic). I know if someone asks to enter your house, they can't look in the cupboard, but they could pick up items you've left on the floor. Are there any other differences? Is there a time limit on the piles? Could a pig get into my vegetable stash and eat it?

  • I keep my floor stuff away from pigs so they can't eat it.

  • the cabinet is secure from visitors and the pile isn't.

    that's about it.

  • I understand that if you don't use a pig feeder, the pigs will eat your trees, but I don't know if they eat piled veggies too. My house is actually bi-level, with the pigs "upstairs" in the yard (I live in a cave). My veggies have gone unmolested thus far, don't know if that has to do with the separation of pigs and veggies or that they just don't eat them. But it probably mostly has to do with the pig feeder I put upstairs in the yard.

So my advice is get a pig feeder and keep it stocked with grain...it's a great investment.

  • I have a bunch of pigs and a bunch of trees and no pig feeder. I want one of the trees removed, but sadly the pigs haven't touched any of the trees.

How do I know when the pigs start gnawing on the trees?

I assumed the pig feeders were to get a large amount of seeds, is this not true?

  • Pigs don't eat the trees, just anything *on* the trees (your tree will eventually die, though we should make a way to kill your own trees soon).

The pig feeders were for feeding convenience: I'm not actually sure that putting crops in there will make a difference in terms of getting seeds out …

  • If I don't feed my pigs, and I don't have trees, will my pigs starve?

  • Glad to hear we'll be able to kill trees. I bought an axe thinking I could chop mine down, and am now stuck waiting for days for it to die.

  • I have a cave too, with trees and three pigs living on the roof. I don't think I've ever fed the pigs, and they're all still running around happily. The trees seem fine, and the pigs have never fallen through the hole into the cave, so my item piles are still intact.

Will we ever have the ability to add more cupboards or other furniture?

  • More, much more, cupboard space would be wonderful. Six or nine slots or whatever, is pretty useless thb! I would like somewhere I could store loads of stuff. Also a store-shed in the garden would be great, for gardening/mining/metalwork tools.

Because we got our houses re-set and I lost all the stuff inside once I carry everything around in huge bags (like a bag-lady!) but I would much prefer; when we are permanent; to have lots of storage space in my house.

Piggies never eat the stuff I leave on the grass in the garden, even before I had a pig-feeder.

  • So if pigs won't die due to not being fed, and they won't eat the piles of stuff I have lying around, what is the point of having a piggy feeder?

  • At one point they did die if you didn't feed them--I have heard other players talking about logging into a test to find piles of meat in their houses but all pigs gone. Not sure if that is currently the case. The fullness of my feeder does deplete regularly though.

  • I thought if you didn't feed them they would eventually run away?

  • Bluto, that's what I'm going to believe from now on. And let's also say they just leave behind 10 pieces of meat for you to remember them by.

  • I hear SOME people like to battery-farm piggies in Glitch. Such cruelty!
