Tales of Reunions: 2 Sisters Reunited through play (Share your tale if you like)

Dear Ur,

Has Glitch helped reunite you with estranged or family members you barely keep in touch with and long lost friends? If so, please share your tale :) Here's mine:

Wheatgerm & Bachjess♫♫♪

My sis, wheatgerm, and I have very busy separate lives and she lives in Singapore and I in East coast USA. We used to communicate via Facebook but even that was proving difficult. Since recently, when Invites returned, I wanted her to know the amazingsauce interactive and social experience that is Glitch so I asked if she wanted to try then shot her an invitation and lo and behold, we now communicate several times each month through the game - playing together and chatting, exploring and me teaching her bits and pieces of the game pointing her to websites etc.,

All this would not have been possible without Glitch. We found a common love and experience with Glitch, something we could both play, laugh over and communicate in real time with each other. We went from pretty much 6 months of little to no communication to where we are today. Sure we have to work out time zone differences (12 hours) but what we have here is a shared vehicle of communication and play :)

Thank you Glitch and all of Tiny Speck for allowing the 2 of us to reconnect and have such fun in the process. Such I know is the power of Glitch: bringing together family that had drifted so far apart regardless of the reasons.

I love you sis, I dedicate this thread to you. *hugs* and thank you so much for giving Glitch a shot, you have no idea how happy you've made me, being able to communicate and play with you again. We may be 13 years apart but we will always share this bond.

So again, a big resounding: THANK YOU TS. :D

Enough about me, let's hear about all of your stories if you care to share. *hugs* all and cheers,

Bachjess

  • That is an awesome story!  I am very happy for you and your sister.  Glitch brings people together! *highfives*
I wish I had a tale to tell, but sadly my sister is too busy (her words, not mine) to play.  It would be nice to talk to her more than once every few weeks.  I love glitch and the friends that I have made here, but a RL friend or family member would make me warm and fuzzy.
I envy what Glitch has brought to you!

  • Aw thanks for the comments all. Please do drop a line or a tale all, if the spirit moves you. *hugs* mikkiO busy lives do tear our families apart, such is the price of modernity I guess or is it modernism? Lol. I hope in time she'd have more time and consider exploring Ur with you. *hugs*, to you both and all families in ur.

  • Aww... that's awesome. :)

My sister would play, but she is busy with school, and she doesn't need the distraction right now. We do keep in touch as much as possible, but you think it'd be more, since we fortunately only live an hour or so apart!

The thing we like to do together, though, when we are together is play console games, usually Zelda. It took us 5 years to finish Twilight Princess! Now we're slowly working on Skyward Sword when we visit each other and have the time to play games.

  • Zelda rocks!!!! And yeah, I hear ya, games can be a distraction to be sure, but something to be said too for games teaching moderation and time management? But who am I to say at times. Lol. Awesome though, LIttle Miss Giggles :D

  • My sister, Sonomi, and I also live in different countries (she's in Puerto Rico, I live in the continental US) and I recently invited her to Glitch, we communicate a lot more often through it than other methods :)

I love being able to play online games with my sister, I'm sure you understand, seeing your family only once (twice, if I'm lucky in my case) in a year is really tough, but being able to experience Glitch and have some communal fun is really cool. I also love having to help her and having to translate everything to her since her English is not nearly as good as mine, that is a lot of fun (and also seeing the words she comes up to translate some of the objects). I'm happy that my experience is not singular in this respect and that you're also able to experience fun times in Glitch with your sis!

  • Love it Juniparr. Likwise, I am elated that mine is not the only story out there and that Glitch brings so many of us closer together though lands part us.

Cool the act of helping her translate I'm sure even goes further to strengthen the bond between you 2.

    *hug*,

  • My husband and I both play Glitch and after watching us have so much fun, our oldest son wanted to try it. My son and husband have been butting heads for a while now as our son is trying to deal with the hormonal crap that comes with growing up lol. Showing him the ins and outs of the game has brought them together and helped them bond again.

  • Ooh perhaps I should share a secret. One of my goals with this thread and so many others I put up is to add cheer to the forums and also see if posts where hopefully heated debates are not needed can get or garner a huge bunch of replies and interest.

So please, add to it if the spirit moves you and let's see how long we can keep this thread of celebration alive.

    *hugs* Dear Ur,

  • I have gotten both of my kids and my husband into this game - we spend a nice chunk of free time playing together, all in the same room. Recently we had a chance to show Glitch to my favorite cousins, who only live 5 hours away but busy schedules have kept us out of touch. Both of them have fallen in love with Glitch and have played almost every night to unwind at the end of a long work day. We've seen more of them in the week since they started playing then we have in the past two years I think!

  • So true, Blackwolf :) I'm broke so yeah, Glitch and Facetime and Skype are Giant-sends.

Frogger the Mad, that is so awesome. I'm so glad you have had so much more time with them recently because of this wickedly brilliant game.

*hugs* and cheers, I hope they continue to love the game.

  • My sister (leedee) and I play Glitch together. We live very close to each other and I see her at least once or more a week, but we are miles apart in age. I am the oldest and she is the baby, there is a 17 years gap in our ages and Glitch has closed that gap by giving us something in common. We play and talk more in the game and we both have this game as our stress relief in our real lives. Today is also a special day for my sis so, if you see her in the game today, wish her a Happy Birthday!

    Happy Birthday leedee (love you)
Great story and awesome thread Bachjess :D

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY leedee *HUGS*

miskey, love your tale. *hugs* Thanks for sharing it. Wow I thought my age gap between me and my siblings were bad. My little bro is 14 years my junior. . 17, must be even more challenging. I totally agree, finding something in common really does bridge the gap.

Thanks again. *hugs* to you both.

  • thanks sis (miskey) for the great story. I've been playing glitch now for about 8 months and i absolutely love it. When my sister sent me the invite to play i was skeptical at first, but it has become a pleasant distraction throughout day to day life. It's also a great bonding tool for friends and family members. also, thanks for the birthday aknowledgements guys, and as a special treat, I'm going to walk around in Ur today in my birthday suit! lol.

love you 2 sis. I'll see ya in the game!

  • I wasn't really reunited with anybody, but The Boyfriend asked me to send an invite to one of his friends from work. (He used to play, and I don't know why he didn't just log on and send one of his invites, but whatever.) At first, I was just stopping by Miniasia's yard to leave off Newb Fun Packs and stuff, but she eventually came to my house and asked SO MANY questions. So, I just kept giving her stuff and explaining it all because it was fun, and I remembered how hard it was to start off.

After telling her so many stories about the old days, we started texting and playing Draw Something and all that stuff in real life. Now I have a new friend. And that's just awesome.

Love your story too girlthulhu. Friends are so precious after all and it's similar in that Glitch helps so many of us march to a common beat and have such fun in the process.

    *hugs* you all :D

  • My sister Quatchi and I play together very often! :) We get in to all sorts of shenanigins (Shhh... it wasn't us). Yesterday we had a sleepover :DAlthough we live in the same house, it's fun to come home at the end of the day and spend time together. It's also hilarious to see the looks on our other family member's faces as they listen to our conversations about the game, which must sound very... interesting to someone who doesn't understand how quirky glitch is.

  • We're in the final stages of our annual end-of-summer/back to school sleepover game-fest for the kids and their best friends. Last night there were 7 internet capable devices in my living room and 6 of them were being used to play Glitch! (The 7th was an iPad.) The one friend who hadn't already started playing is now level 6! Thanks a million million, TS, for creating something so fun!
And yes, all kids involved are 14+ and had parental permission. In fact some of the other parents my be the next recruits!

  • Ooo... I like the sleepover thing too.  I remember when I used to LAN with friends, it's been a long time, but I can envision everyone bringing over their setups and Glitching all night.

I love these stories.  I wish I had some to share, but I'm pretty much homebound with my son and don't have many friends outside of immediate family.  Most of the people I know have turned down my invites (even my sister).  My mom started playing, but she rarely does and since hers is the only computer that can play Glitch we don't play together.

But I've met some wonderful people here in the past few weeks (after 11 months I've only just gotten past my asocial phase here) and I'm looking forward to making new Glitchen friends. ^_^

  • Coolbettycakes is my big sister. She travels for work and is always internet handicapped, a victim of bad wifi, dead batteries or crippled tablet performance. I work graveyard shift intensive care and rarely see her face to face. We are close but couldn't be more different. She's sunny and funny and ridiculously cool. I'm serious, pessimstic and kinda cranky. We are polar opposites in looks, habits, tastes and politics, which left little beyond polite conversations about work, bills and childhood memories as common ground - until glitch. When she can't get connected I read her the forums and we giggle, vent and debate merit of the latest developments or flamewars. Before glitch and after glitch is a definite timemarker in our relationship.
