Why you no buy my meat tetrazinni??

I've sold a lot of awesome stew in the auctions, as have a lot of other cooks.  It generally goes for about 200 currants a pop, sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on the demand of the moment. That's 1 currant for every unit of energy.  The very cheapest I've seen it go at is 180 which is still 0.9 currants per energy.  Now I know people like awesome stew because it packs the most energy into a single bag slot.  But meat tetrazinni, at 192 units of energy is nearly as good.  And the thing is I regularly have it on the auction at 160 currants per.  That's only 0.83 currants per unit of energy.  It's more fun to make than awesome stew, and I could put a fair lot of it on the auction if only you'd buy it.  I've got two there right now.  So why you no buy my meat tetrazinni?

  • It might be because Awesome Stew is so much more salient than Meat Tetrazinni, since the auction lists the items within a category (such as Food) in alphabetical order.

    *purchases said Meat Tetrazinnis* :D

  • A good argument for meat tetrazinni.  I bought some.  :)

  • I asked the same question pre-reset and the conclusion I came to is that people just don't know about meat tetrazinni, and they certainly aren't going to go through the entire auction house with a calculator to try to maximize energy per currant.

Either meat tetra (and fortifying gruel) will start becoming popular as second or third best alternatives, or perhaps TS will one day allow you to sort auctions by energy per currant.

  • Hear hear Hawkwell!

There are a number of underrecognized recipes in the game.  It's not really the players' fault -- there's no good way to know what's what without having cooking skills -- which are cheap but wasteful -- and the chefs tend to make their own food.  So ppl just hear "awesome stew is best" when in reality it's not really the best recipe int he game, and you know the rest of the story.

So, go out, glitchens and look for tetrazzini, expensive grilled cheese (hereafter the XGC!!), fried rice, etc, etc, the list goes on, there is a good player-made food at every price-point.  Throw your currants down the black hole of the meal vendor no longer!  Support the Glitchen and their streets!!

    ...i've lost my voice

Edit (it's back! omg):  The trick, if you're new, to finding out if food is "worth it" is going to the food table on the Glitch Strategy wiki and checking its "street price" - this number is always equal to energy gained!

  • Why y no sell more?  I keep hearing about Hawkwell's secret meat tetrazinni recipe, passed on through generations of the Hawkwell lineage, complete with 5 secret spices.  But now there is no more to buy.  :O

  • This is a great post Hawkwell. There have been several things (including the Tetrazinni) that I have wondered the same thing about.

    Happy cooking!

if this was built into the auctions interface, your tetrazinnis would be flying off the shelves like nobody's business.

  • I got more tetrazinnis on auction now!  You buy them.  Best deal for cheap energy!  If anybody sells cheaper than me don't buy - it's not the original Hawkwell family recipe.  Buy the best; you won't be sorry!

  • I'll buy them as soon as I eat through my mountain of hash.

  • I just don't get why people bother selling stuff... compared to the speed of selling things to the NPC.

  • Because it helping out all our good Glitchen!  NPC just throw it away.  Sure I get money, but you no get my good tetrazzini.   And I got more out there now!  I got to admit, you buy so much I raise my price to 165, but still too good a deal to pass up.  I promise (maybe) I no raise the price any higher.  Got to be good and give all Glitchen a good deal!

  • Auctions are fun - both as a buyer and a seller. I would much rather deal with another player, even sight unseen, than sell to a NPC. Selling to an NPC means no one will actually benifit from the hard work I put in making that Cheesey Sammich. When a Glitchen buys it, I know it will help someone play longer and healthier that day.

Yes, I know it is weird.

  • well, YOU all benefit from selling to an NPC.

i mostly sell to NPCs when i've got chunks but the food i make, when i make it, always goes up on auction for slightly more than a vendor would purchase it for.

  • Tragically, the fact that auctions are such a gamble for the seller makes it very tempting to just sell to vendors and be done.

On the other hand: @Hawkwell, do you need any meat for those tetrazinnis?  Maybe we could work something out?
