Of furniture and sloths (with an eye towards badges)

Furniture (Sloths way down towards the end)

All lamp types (Floor Ceiling, Wall, and Table) count towards "Into the Light"

All cabinets (Cabinet, Small Cabinet, and Wall Cabinet) count toward "Corporate Cabinetmaker"

Only wall decorations count towards "Framer Ranger"

All decorations (Room, Hanging, Wall, and Tabletop) count to "Captain Tchotchke"

Arguably, the "cheapest" things to make are Table Lamps, Tabletop Decorations, and Wall Cabinets.

Honourable Chairperson needs Sofa, Loveseat, Armchair, Bench, Chair, Stool, and probably nothing else.

Domestic completist counted Wall Segments (and probably other things) I'd made before badges existed.

For the Better Homes & Garden Badge, per Kerlick below, need to place items (in your home, presumably) the items you've upgraded their style, and exit decoration mode for the badge to kick in.

32 SDBs I'd made previously counted to Court Hoarder, but not to the Furniturerer badges. This was not all the SDBs I'd made previously. None of the other furniture I'd made previously counted (to Furniturerer)

Newly made SDBs count toward Master Furniturerer...

The Home Improver badges are currently bugged for me. All others worked as described for me.

   Sloths

Possible to get spat at twice on same street. (got spat at, fed 16 rods to two sloths, fed 8 rods to one sloth, got spat at again).
--right after that, couldn't get spat at by three sloths on next street over. Took the time to feed two sloths 16 rods each, and then got spat at again)

Definitely seems to be a timer on spitting (5 minutes??)

Spit an average of 2.56 snails per spit (n=9)

Gave an average of 8.56 snails per rod (n=156 rods)

Of the 11 times I fed sloths (1 or 2 sloths at a time), only gave less than 8.5 snails per rod twice. Both times, others were on the street with me, so I may have lost snails, and the actual average may be slightly higher.

Hope someone finds this useful,

  • Didn't want to clutter up the first post...

One needs the following material to get all the furniture badges. This list is arguably minimal with respect to the values I put on certain raw materials (the space of valuations of a list of materials is fairly high-dimensional and probably doesn't even have well-defined local minima in many places, so that statement is certainly very poorly defined). It also doesn't take into account energy needed to produce some of the materials, only energy needed to make the furniture itself.

    16,420 energy
           10 planks
      1,309 boards
           33 posts
             1 beam
           15 barnacle talc
         550 fibers
           26 strings
           18 general fabrics
2,270 snails (which will come from 268 rods)
462 metal rods (in addition to the 268 above)
           15 metal bars
           11 bulbs

    This will make:
       1 Floor lamp
       1 Ceiling lamp
       1 Wall lamp
       8 Table lamps
       1 cabinet
       1 small cabinet
     11 wall cabinets
       1 room decoration
       1 hanging decoration
     23 wall decorations
     26 tabletop decorations
1  rug (don't forget the rug!)
       1 armchair
       1 stool
       1 chair
       1 bench
       1 loveseat
       1 sofa
       1 side table
       1 note pole
       1 shelf
       1 counter
       1 door
       1 desk
       1 coffee table
       1 table
       1 bed
       1 wall segment
    211 SDBs

Those are my best guess, I didn't start with bags containing only these things so it's probable I missed some smaller stuff...

  • Re: furniture badges. They are bugged for me, too. I've made each piece of furniture, but haven't gotten the badge and according to the db, I've only made a few of the pieces. :(

Oh well. I'm just going to make 'em all over again.

Re: sloths. Well, that makes me feel better. I thought it was just my sloppy sloth skills.

  • When I made cabinets for the badge, small ones didn't count. I made... a lot of cabinets.

  • Thanks for the details ~ will be using this for a super reference!

  • Last I heard, the cabinet badge was buggy. Has anyone been able to get it?

edit: I made 13 small and wall cabinets and was not given the badge, I was told by a staffer that only Cabinets counted but it was going to be fixed.

  • So how do we get Better Homes and Gardens? I've crafted at least one of each item (Domestic Completist) and upgraded them with free upgrades w/o success. Do they have to be "paid" (credit) upgrades?
Posted 5 months ago by Kerlick Subscriber! | Permalink
  •  @Kerlick:  I got the badge without using any credits.

Did you upgrade them all (including a rug) after the badges were released? Upgrades before then don't count

  • I agree-- no need to use credits. Did you upgrade a rug (I'm pretty sure that is necessary)?

I also upgraded only stuff that I'd just built-- didn't think to try upgrading anything I'd built previously (or was given to me originally), so not sure if that matters.

@beBlueberry-- I built 2 cabinets, 2 small cabinets (didn't get it), and then 9 Wall Cabinets (and got it), so they all had to count (I hadn't ever previously made any cabinets). But there are bugs that are affecting some people and not others.

Some people have reported that leaving and enter their house can make a badge trip, but I never had to do that...

  • @IrenicRhonda yeah, I made sure to build one of each item for the Domestic Completist. I have one of each upgraded item in my inventory at this very moment. I'm going to try dumping them all into my home and change the styles once more. Maybe they have to all be placed at the same time?
Posted 5 months ago by Kerlick Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That's the key! You have to have all of the crafted/upgraded furniture _placed_ in your home, and the badge only appears once you come out of Decorate Mode.

  • I had a lot of problems with the Better Homes and Garden Badges. Turned out that I either never had or sold & forgot I made the wall cabinet. Other people miss the rugs and/or doors. Or making the wall segment for the Domestic Completist badge.

  • @Kerlick -- thanks for the update! Adding to original post.

@emdot -- yeah-- most of the stuff I made previously didn't count, except when it did (I called out the exceptions in the original post above).

  • Anyone having trouble with the Domestic Completist badge?  I have done the suggestions posted here, putting out 1 of every item (upgraded) and still am unable to unlock it.  I have made rug, wall segment, door ~ so not sure what else to do?  Any suggestions?

Earned the Better Homes and Gardens one after putting all upgraded items out ~ not sure why not he Domestic one first?

*I remade a Door (one I will be unable to use) and it triggered the Domestic Completist Badge ~ Hooray!

  • WHOO! Ran out of energy before I finished all the SDBs but this list is invaluable.
