Doors - Moving and Upgrading

It appears that door upgrades work a little differently than standard furniture upgrades. Or, to be accurate, maybe they NEED to work differently. Once a door has been placed, it cannot be picked up, nor can it be moved to a different floor. So, if you purchase an upgrade for a door on the first floor, it is "locked" to that door and there is no way to "move" it to the 2nd or 3rd floors.

In my decorating, I realized that the door I had placed on the 1st floor would look better on the 2nd floor and visa versa. Both upgrades were purchased using credits. I thought exchanging them would be a simple matter. I was wrong. The only way to make the change would be to spend more credits to upgrade both doors.

  • I did the same thing Audaria, paid 40 credits for a door upgrade on my second floor, then decided later I would prefer it on my third floor, seems no way but to pay out again :(

  • I have a friend in the same boat!  Seems to me that once you upgrade it with credits, you should be able to use it as any door in your house!

  • Hi, I'm glad you mentioned this. I also spent credits to upgrade a door, and when I swapped it out with another style I lost my upgrade. I'm assuming this is a bug, I hope it's a bug?

  • I don't mind having to pay for each upgraded piece of furniture. That makes sense to me. But I would like some mechanism to either swap the doors, or swap the upgrades (i.e., move it from door to door within the house.

Basically, if I upgrade a table, I can move it anywhere I want, even sell it. But, since doors don't work that way, it would be nice if there was some flexibility.

  • That's a good idea, doors should be able to function that way.

  • I suspect that TS would agree, too, but that the coding of the relationship of doors to floors is the problem. After all you can move a table from the ground floor to the first floor, but if you could simply move a door up one floor you would suddenly have no way to travel up there. Hopefully they can come up with a fix so you can, in effect, swap your doors from one floor to another the same way you can move a given piece of furniture from one floor to another.

  • Perhaps some sort of 'swap appearance' function? I admittedly have no fwaggin' idea how the doors are coded, so I'm not sure if some sort of attribute-reassignation would even be possible, but if my notion that the appearance attribute(s) are somehow grouped, this may be possible, particularly if there's some sort of limitation that the function searches only the $_doors in a particular $_home. There can only be so many doors in someone's house, right?

(I've also been wondering if we could get doors that move us from the first floor to the third floor.)

  • This got me when I was first decorating as well. I definitely agree that the difference in mechanics of moving a door call for a different upgrade mechanic.

  • We are working on a solution!

  • "We are working on a solution!" Hi Stoot, does this include reimbursing or reissuing our upgrade that has been lost?

  • Sadie, I wasn't talking about individual bugs: those we really can't handle in the forums (you'll need to open a help ticket). I was talking about not being able to swap doors.

  • Hi Stoot, Okay, thanks! I wasn't clear if it was a known bug.. I'll open a ticket.

  • Thank you stoot! I'm glad I declined to buy the duplicate upgrades.

  • Awesome thank you Stoot, I've been holding off buying another door upgrade in the hope that it would change!

  • This is good news to hear. I just had a friend ask me about this a few minutes ago.

  • What a relief. I'm low on credits and I have two pairs of doors to switch. Thank you Audaria for starting this thread.

  • Oh great to hear this - I'm also hoping to be able to swap in a door with one in my inventory - that way you could move doors around to your hearts content as long as you made an extra one.
