Question about "Hoarder Intervention"

This " Hoarder intervention: you'll now be prevented from buying new goods at auction if your mailbox holds 50 or more uncollected auction items."  Does this mean 50 items or 50 *stacks* of items??  Like slots?  D:

  • I would think that 1 stack counts as an item unless the item does not come in a stack, such as a tool.

  • Related, if I have non-auction items that were sent to me via the mail, do those count?  I have at least 50 items in my mail box that I'm leaving in there until I have a better place to put them because they don't stack and I don't want to buy a bunch more bags (I already have too many).

  • It's 50 auctions.

    *cough*

    No... no intervention required here...

  • This would seem like an interesting way to toss a wrench in the works of the players using auction sniping tools.  Figure out what they are sniping, then list fifyt individual lots of that item at low, low prices...

  • Kalstept, so walk me through how that would work:

    You list 50 items.
    The frog brings those items
    The player accepts the items
The player puts the items in storage bags for future sale.

How will listing 50 items at a low low price do anything but make a bigger profit for the person who is sniping?

  • It's sorta the opposite of throwing a wrench in the works... you're giving whoever sniped the 50 auctions exactly what they want. Do you think people with snipers running don't check the total number of goods they've sniped/their currant balance?

  • Do snipers only run their scriptz when they are logged in the game?

  • Kalstept,   I have no idea what API extensions other player use and when they use them.

How do you use the scripts?  If you've never used them, perhaps experimenting a bit with them would be informative.

Remember that the API is created by TS for players who want to do some programming on their own.  When the sniping API was introduced, stoot said that was exactly the kind of thing they'd had in mind when they created it.  They are an integral part of the game, created by TS for player use.

  • Definitely scriptz are a part of the game.  But figuring out creative ways to make them do fun and different things is part of the game, too.  Since auctioning is done out-of-game Flash-wise, I would assume the auction sniping scripts are run that way as well.  I just threw this out there as an idea of a fun thing for players to do.

  • The sniper is a browser script, so you need a browser tab open on the auctions page to run it. But you do not have to be in the world at the time.

And the API does in fact not support buying from auctions so the script must be calling the web site just like if you were clicking buttons.

  • Hmm - guess I need to go buy a few more things...

  • @Togger: The script does make an API call for the actual buying. There are some constraints however, which rintaun has described here.

  • Kalstept the auction sniper I use allows me to choose whether to buy "full stacks" or "partial stacks"... selecting "full stacks only" would of course completely nullify what you're proposing, other than making it harder / more tedious for the person trying to throw a wrench in my buying.  ^_^

Not sure why you'd want to mess with people who auction snipe anyway.  As long as the goods get bought what's the problem?  It's still profit for the seller and it's goods that I need that are a hassle to constantly have to search and buy on auction manually.  ~O.o~

  • if they're sniping, but not in the game, it'd work

  • @ping Interesting, thanks. I had only looked at the documented part of the API ;-).

  • Sorry I didn't see this earlier guys! Definitely referring to stacks (as is usually the case, if you're ever in doubt). This update was mostly about people's mailboxes going all wonky when they were stuffed full of too many auction deliveries with unopened attachments.
