I love the new housing features, but I have to admit, I'm going to miss having a real address and neighborhood in Glitch. Bye-bye, Afar Whence Quarter!
Serious question, although I realise there might not be an answer.
I totally get that the game is in beta and that occasional downtime is inevitable. No problem with that at all. But does anyone know if there's any kind of way of finding out when planned and/or long downtime is scheduled to occur? Like is there an opt-in email list, or does it get mentioned on a twitter feed or something?
(I sat down planning to play for an hour or so and saw the cheery GOD message saying I'd be kicked out in ten minutes. Okay, I thought, I'll nibble piggies till I get kicked off and then I'll go make a cup of tea and by the time I've done that, they'll have rebooted the server or whatever and I'll log back in. Ten minutes later a message says the World is closed for the next few hours and the speech bubble over my head is "hours??? wish I'd known about that...")
Darn it, I started painting my lounge today - a 3 day job normally - and what do TS do, they ensure that my lounge doesn't get finished, ah well do I care..... NO!!!!
I never took a picture of my old house, either. But it looked like every other house of its kind, so no biggie. ;)
Edit: I never took a pic of my test house, either. Same thing, though. (I never really dressed it up.) and I'm glad for a reset - my hoarded stuff was pretty disorganized...
I'm going to miss Patchouli Preamble with it's 100+ wood trees. And that's about it. Those signs are an annoyance when you're trying to nibble/squeeze. So good riddance!
Zap, you'll automatically be given a fresh new house. Then you'll be able to change it however you like (well, within the limits of the options and your iMG balance!) The old neighborhoods will be gone, though -- you can get to your new house from anywhere. Virtual living!

Nope. They usually give us about 30 minutes warning before the game goes down by flashing messages in local chat. Other than that, not even the guides are given more warning.
These aren't 'scheduled'. They happen when the developers believe that the new software is ready to install. And even if they thought last night that it would be ready this morning, there might be last-minute errors popping up to delay it. So, no one knows (not even the staff) when these will happen.
Housing reset: means old houses you bought are gone
Instead you get: imagined home!! Free to have and can be customized with imagination, credits and crafting. :)
