Blank TP script?

I just found a TP script in Kajuu on my dirt travels and when I click on it nothing happens, no location etc.  I can't read it and am wondering is this one of those TP scripts that got glitched when the great glitch loss happened? Does anyone know or can anyone confirm? Have I indeed found a rare(ish) item??

  • I believe the Rube occasionally gives those out; I know he sometimes gives out completely blank (unreadable) notes. If it were mine, I would find it unethical to present or attempt to sell it as one of the "rare" glitched scripts from the great item loss unless I were somehow able to prove the date it had been written.

    Edited to add:

The blank notes and scripts from the Rube are rare-ish in their own right, though, so you wouldn't necessarily lose money or devalue it by being straightforward about the ambiguity of its heritage, heh.

  • Blank TP scripts were also created by a storage bug back at the beginning of March, if I recall correctly.

  • I wouldn't find it unethical to advertise it as rare if I do try to sell it at some point Sirentist? The fact is like the tp scripts caused by the glitch back in March, the script is unable to be read, it is blank.

Are you saying if I find a pickle I shouldn't sell that either?? Slightly baffled by your reply but we each have our own ways I guess lol

Just saying...if it's the same as the 'rare' glitched scripts...then it is a 'rare' glitched script! : D

  • Actually, what I said is I myself would feel I uncomfortable if I presented it or tried to sell it as one of the erased scripts from the great item loss, without knowing for sure that that's what it really was. I said that in response to your wondering whether it was one of those scripts. Without some way to verify its creation date, it's impossible to tell.* I came back a bit later to clarify that I didn't think it would necessarily hurt the value if you were honest about not knowing for sure whether it was from the great item loss or not.

As to rarity, I'm not sure how common or uncommon blank TP scripts in general are; I know I have some that I wasn't even trying for (from before the great item loss), as well as one from the item loss bug itself, and I know other people who have bags full of them. Glitched (i.e., unusable as opposed to blank) TP scripts, meanwhile, are quite common, and simple enough to create. Perceived rarity, though, is what drives market value (as you already well know), so whether or not any sort of blank script is objectively rare is sort of a moot point.

Finding a senor funpickle would be quite the coup -- of course I wouldn't say you shouldn't sell it. I only meant to say that billing your newfound blank TP script as being definitely related to the item loss bug would strike me as a bit sketchy. I didn't mean to suggest you shouldn't try to profit from rare items you acquire, nor even from those that are only perceived as such. My apologies for any confusion! :-)

    Edited to add:

*Whether there are ways to verify this is another question entirely. For all I know, it's possible to get information about creation dates/times from a quick look at the TSID or [insert some other string of technical sounding letters here so it kind of looks like I know what I'm talking about].

  • Moot now...I sold it : ) The same as the strawberry seeds.  Some peeps  had hundreds in stock, but they are still considered rare to those that don't have them.  I've been playing for several months now and this was the first time I had held a blank TP script.  It was sure rare for me : ) : ) : )

Edit:  I won't be going into verification any time soon.  That would be taking the game a touch too seriously lol - we're not talking about a Van Gogh here.

  • Sorry to have irked you; I really didn't mean to. Sometimes I jump straight to the logic of a question without remembering that what follows from the logic might carry other effects. To me this was an interesting question because it was a logical puzzle -- given the game mechanics, was there a way to say for sure what sort of blank script it was? -- as well as a philosophical one -- how do we define rarity and value as individuals and as a group? What sort of accountability should go with dealing in rare items? Blah blah blah. To me, thinking seriously about this sort of thing IS fun, but I forget that doing so can sometimes take the fun out of it for others. I wasn't trying to be a buzzkill.

I'm glad you sold the script, and that you happened upon a valuable find! May there be many more in your future.

  • Wait, what?  People WANT these things?  I have bags full of blank notes and glitched TP scripts from the storage bug, and the only reason I haven't thrown them out is that I can't be bothered to carry them all the way to a shrine for a measly 1 favour each.  (I'm also hanging on to the notes for sentimental reasons, I suspect... I have memories of when they said lovely things my friends had written, now lost forever.  Sadface, sic transit gloria URdi, etc.)

I can't imagine why anyone would want one, but if you do... let me know I guess?
