Multiply by zero = Going away giveaway.

*** Winners announced below! ***

I've enjoyed my time with Glitch, but it feels like the current shift is towards crafting an experience for newer players. A lot of us have stuck around for a long time — meaning a lot of things with the game work well — but it feels like there is less of a place to do something new, or something unique that is earned by investing time into the game. As simple as they were, the quoin multipliers were one of these things. There isn't much for us longer term players to try to achieve — aside from trying to amass enough currants to buy a dusty stick, or a glitchmas yeti, neither of which is guaranteed.

At least I can say there was a moment where I collected a high value quoin worth over 20,000img, but, today, that day has come to and end.

Before I depart the world of Ur, I am going to give away everything I own. Including:

- Fun Pickle / stoot barfield, for making a game that hooked me early and for a long time (Hint: this is sort of like one of those big payouts that goes to a celebrity that they then donate to someone else.)
- GNG / Buttercup✿, a song for a song.

- Full set of dolls / Pirate Apples, perhaps they will remind you to be mindful in the moment.

- Full set of cubmials / Graceful Glitchen, keep free versing.

- Full set of icons / Kouki Sangoma the gods can be helpful even to those that are new(er) devotees.

- A bunch of emblems (including full set) / OMG BACON!! the emblems aren't bacon, but they will have to do.

- 900,000+ currants / bumblepuppy, I ran out of time to grind back to 1,000,000 currants, so I hope you will settle for slightly less.

- 50 get out of hell free cards / railroadbaron, you seem to be particularly fond of the concept of “hell“.

Rather than the typical random draw, players are encouraged to write about something that they love/hate about the game. Each person I choose will receive one of the groups of items listed above. Points will be awarded for creativity. I will distribute the good on Monday.

Update 1: Posts slagging people for (rage) quitting over changed functionality definitely won't be winning — unless they are particularly creative. Maybe a haiku? However, these (rage) posts are amusing, so keep them coming!

Update 2: Thanks for all the kind words. The decision to leave is final, though I'm not doing it just because of the quoin multipliers. It's also about wanting to devote time to other things. Glitch has become a part of my routine, and I don't want it to feel that way. Simply routine. There is a chance I will come back to see what changes have been made in a few months time, but giving these things away in Glitch is a reminder that it can be done in the real world too.

Disclaimer: Point multipliers will be limited to 1.

  • What I love about Glitch is how crazy it is. It all makes sense to us, but to someone who has never played it, it is complete nonsense.  How "humming to baby pigs' and 'poking very, very stinky cheese so it will give you a small shiny object with no intrinsic value" seems so normal to us but not to anyone else.  It must be really strange for someone to hear you say "stop bestowing me with random kindness! I'm trying to die before the new day because I need some hellish wine, I just don't want sparkly in my backyard anymore!  But this makes total sense to us, because glitch, and everyone that plays glitch is like another world.  A crazy one, but a awesome one. :)

  • (To the tune of 'My favourite things')

Crops in my garden and smiles on piggies,
Expanding my house and making it pretty,
Milking my butterflies, massaging their wings,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Earning new badges and visiting places,
Watching the sloths stuffing their faces,
    Every DR-2 musicblock that sings,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Gaining new upgrades and jumping around,
Seeing how high I can levitate off the ground,
Decorating trees with small shiny things,
These are a few of my favourite things.

    When glitchen are angry,
    When my trees are dead,
    When my mood is SAD,
I simply drink all of my butterfly milk -
And then I don't feel so bad!

  • I just love glitch.  It is the one thing I look forward to every day that I know I have time to play.  It's an escape from doing chores and school work by reading the forums, when I can't actually play :D).  I have met so many nice people and the people on glitch are so creative, as shown by this contest, thanks Aleph1.  I am not going to rage on you for quitting, but I hope you come back in the future and see how much glitch has expanded because I feel it has a great future ahead of it.  Another thing I love about glitch is how crazy it is.  Me trying to explain glitch to my friends " In this/the world called Glitch, within the mind of these 12 giants!  Trust me its lots of fun...  Squeeze chickens for grain, nibble pigs for meat and milk butterflies... (Sees blank stare)... If any of that sounds even remotely interesting/intriguing, I would recommend trying it, its a lot of fun... (Blank/confused/crazy stare)"  It is my escape from the real world, and all the crazy activities is just so much fun.  My two favorite discrepancies are definitely, 1. What is the true plural of glitch, Definitely glitchen, and 2. Is it Coins, Quoins, koins, Krazy Quoins... ( The number of different things they are called are endless, so much fun...)  And as I said, with being to create our own groups, people are so creative, and have started running their own shops.  It is truly a blast to play this game, and I wish I had started in Beta.  I had an acquainted who played the game, and they started in late beta and tried to get me interested, i thought it was boring till I actually sat down and played it, now I ADORE it. :D

  • I made it through the internets
    Somehow I made it through
Didn't know how lost I was
    Until I found stoot

    I was beat, incomplete
I'd been had, I was sad and blue
    But Glitch made me feel
    Yeah, glitch made me feel
    Shiny and new

    Like a Glitchen
Imagined for the very first time
    Like a Glitchen
    When the Giants thought
    me so sublime

Gonna give Glitch all my love, boy
    My fear is fading fast
Been saving it all for Glitch
    'Cause only this can last

    Like a Glitchen
Imagined for the very first time
    Like a Glitchen
    When the Giants thought
    me so sublime

    Oooh, oooh, oooh

Glitch is so fine and it's mine
It can be yours 'till the end of time
    'Cause Glitch made me feel
    Yeah, Glitch made me feel
    I've nothing to hide

    Like a Glitchen
Imagined for the very first time
    Like a Glitchen
    When the Giants thought
    me so sublime

    Like a Glitchen, ooh, ooh
    Like a Glitchen
    Feels so good inside
When Pot holds me, and my mind thinks, and I lobe you

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
    Ooh, aleph
    Can't you hear me, imagined
    For the very first time?

    -------------------------------------

You will be seriously missed, aleph. Hopefully you will check back from time to time. *hugs*

From Ajaya Bliss trains to the new housing routes, it's great to stick around to see what new things the community will get upto with each new update. Hope you will be back again soon to see the new changes!

  • I love the wackiness of glitch! I feel like I really used my imagination by experiencing a piece of TS' wackiness. I will never forget the first time I milked a butterfly! My first party invite! And I will always be impressed by the lovely scenery! Each time I play I feel I am adventuring! Oh how I would love to hop and pet trees in rl. Even if you leave you still have those memories.

  • Glitch was my first MMO. I've been thinking about not playing anymore for quite some time. I've met lots of nice people, but it just feels like it is time to move on. I'd be interested in hearing how this giveaway plays out, or any suggestions for doing the same.

  • I love that I was able to walk away for about 6 months, and then come back last week, and feel like everything was fresh again.  Granted, there were some major changes in the mean time, but it was long enough that I am rediscovering things that I once knew and had memorized.

Best wishes for a happy, productive break, however long it may be.

This is not a haiku, you see.
It's simply something I thought of creatively.
    ------- ------- ------- ------- -------
There's one thing that I love about this game the most, it's the fact that there's always something to do. I'll probably never run out of things to do, due to the fact that new things are always coming out, and I've yet to complete all of the achievements let alone discover all the nooks and crannies of Glitch. This is a community that I like, where everyone is helpful, with barely any trolls, and those that due pop up are hilariously shot down. XD

  • Creativity I am low on.  Honesty is what I'll offer.

While I have enjoyed all of the varied experiences of Glitch,  the one thing that makes it more than just a game to me is the simple fact that behind every little cartooney image is a real person somewhere - Wales, or Canada, or Texas, Bangkok or Australia or just a few miles away in California.  People with all sorts of lives and concerns, attitudes and styles.  I think we all can see that if all there were to do was to wander Ur and play by ourselves then there wouldn't be much to Glitch, even with the visuals and music and quirkyness.  It takes all those real people milling about and talking to each other to make the game come alive and transcend being a game, to make it a community.   That is what Glitch is to me, a community.  On the internet communities self-select.  I've selected Glitch, and I glad for it.   I can't wait to see how it develops, as Stoot says, "in the future."
Posted 7 months ago by Sue Chef Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I love the variety of Glitch. I don't have so much time to play so whenever I do, there's always stuff I haven't experienced for a while and want to get back to. Or new stuff I have yet to see - I think I'm still a few seam streets behind.

I had great fun meeting a new player and witnessing their awe and excitement of discovering the world.

When I'm not able to play, I pop in frequently to check status updates and forums. I love the silly threads and the thoughtful threads and even the nerdy fact threads. Not so much the angry threads, I tend to stop reading when the namecalling starts.

Anyway, good luck with whatever comes after Glitch. Me, I'm not done yet.

  • Where else could you milk butterflies and get smiles from piggies after you nibble them? Only in Ur. And while it may be possible, outside of Ur,  to pet trees and squeeze chickens... do you get all the wonderful rewards? Nope. Do you really want to leave this place? Maybe you need a mass-dosage of Random Kindness to clear the fuzziness from you head, my glitchion brother.

Listen. Keep your things. Take a vacation from Ur. I promise that, in time, it will become clear why you came here in the first place: Reality sucks.

  • I just love Glitch so much, so many friends made, help given and received. I have been playing since the end of alpha and still find plenty to do. I just plod along not in any hurry to achieve all the badges and quests, I still have one to do. I have never beaten the Rook and managed to smash his egg and there is the Smuggler, I still have to deliver the contraband. Sorry to see you go aleph 1 and I quite understand about RL, Glitch does take over a lot of RL time.

  • I love wandering the endlessly beautiful landscape.

I love having random encounters with strangers, finding notes and treasure they've left.

I love that there are so many different ways to play the game, including choosing not to play :)

  • I love all the little bits of randomness about the game.  Even a couple of months in, I still like to sit and think about the meaning of things like paranoid bubble trees and rocks that hit on you while you pick them away to nothingness.

I love the sense of wonder I get when thinking about the uninhibited minds that came up with all this and put it all together for us to enjoy.

I love the mythology of Ur, the concept of the Giants who imagined us all and the Rook that plagues us.  I love the glimpses into a dystopic future and the museum of exhibits showing the struggles of our forebears.

I love the fact that this game has such a strong community focus that even those who have decided they need to leave would still take the time to give things away to those who remain.

I think most of all, I love the cuteness of the game with its underlying edge.  When my wife first started playing I thought this wouldn't be a game I would ever be interested in; it looked like it was all about cutesy things like picking outfits, with little game and lots of socializing.  As I watched more, though, I saw more of the subtle insanity and the more "grown-up" aspects of the game.  When I finally took the plunge myself, I found that the cuteness serves to accentuate all the rest; the darker bits are more meaningful because of the lightness that surrounds them.

Good luck with the things you do in the real world with the extra time, aleph1.  I think the message "giving these things away in Glitch is a reminder that it can be done in the real world too" is an extremely valuable one and I wish you the best of luck in following through on that sentiment. :-)

  • I love glitch... I just love it. Glitch is full of many cool and amazing people from all around the globe. These cool and amazing people present tons of interesting ideas and things to Glitch and it's players. Aleph, you are one of those cool and amazing people. Whenever I saw you, whether in-game or on the forum, you were doing something either very cool or very nice. Glitch is a world of imaginable and unimaginable opportunities bursting everywhere. Glitch is the best game I've ever played for it to only be 2d. AND, this is one of the very few games where the staff interact with players the way stoot, Bees! and jdawg interact with us.

I would never picture a game, a new game, so interactive as Glitch. The way the staff have such large imaginations to think of the great storylines and quests in this game.

This game isn't just a virtual world, it's a virtual community.

That is why I love Glitch.

  • I could talk about so much that I love about Glitch, from beauty in the game to making new friends, to so much else that other people have talked about, but the most awesome thing for me involves my husband.  Our preferences for computer games have always been different.  When he would come home from work and want to relax, I knew he'd be in the basement playing a game. And he'd tell me about the game later, and I'd enjoy hearing about it, but sometimes I just couldn't relate to his excitement.

But now he plays Glitch! And it's very awesome because now when he relaxes after work or whatever, we can sometimes play the game together.  And of course we talk about Glitch a lot and I'm just as excited as he is about it!  I don't have to feel like his down-time is an area of his life that I'm not very involved in, and that's a great feeling.

I'm also happy for him because he used to play many games trying to find ones he really enjoyed, sometimes playing ones he didn't like as much because he didn't know what else to play. But now he's as addicted to Glitch as I am, so I know that when he goes to relax, instead of trying to find a great time, he's going to be actually having a great time.

So for me, the absolute best thing about Glitch is that it appeals to both of us. We have different styles of playing and yet we can both be in the world together interacting and having a fantastic time.  Even though I don't get mathematical and optimal-minded about leveling up, I can be so excited for my husband when he figures out the math to make something work well for him - and he's excited when I reach my own, different, goals.

Thanks Tiny Speck for this wonderful game and thanks aleph1 for giving this opportunity to reflect on it :)

It is very interesting that Glitch pulls people from all around the world and makes them one big community of people. When I first started Glitch was rather simple but now it is really different. People were amazed when Rasana came out, and remember how we used to live in housing blocks? houses, fox brushing, taking snaps, and feeding sloths. You will be missed
