New Rube card - does it change anything?

Not sure what the definition of cheap is, does that mean the Rube won't make offers not in your favor or just not offer cheap stuff. This interaction doesn't seem much different than normal to me:

May 2 6:19:33PM Rube  I'll give you a Yummy Gruel for one of your Cocktail Shakers. OK?

May 2 6:19:42PM Rube  I'll give you a Smelter for one of your Awesome Pots. OK?

May 2 6:19:45PM Rube  I'll give you a Krazy Salts for one of your Rookswort Seeds. OK?

May 2 6:19:47PM Rube  I'll give you a Cloudberry Daiquiri for one of your Crabato Juices. OK?

I only have so much patience! (4/5)

May 2 6:19:50PM Rube  I'll give you a Smelter for one of your Very, Very Stinky Cheese. OK?

Last chance! (5/5)

  • I think Rube's definition of "cheap" is different than ours. I think Rube thinks that "cheap" is "less than 10 currants retail value" or something like that.

  • Yeh, I purchased Rube's Favorite upgrade and I'm sorry I did. He offered me a fried rice for my grill.

  • But you never know if your chance of a doll went from 0.001% to 0.002% (so better than nothing still; numbers are just examples).

  • The exact text of the card reads, "You're nobody's chump! The Rube will no longer offer you cheap items after this upgrade." (Emphasis mine.)

That doesn't mean somewhat less often.  It means never, ever again.

So is the card a lie, or what?

  • What did he offer you and how much did it cost would be the key to your question.

  • Based on this post and what a couple of friends told me earlier, I don't think this upgrade is working.

  • I asked in Live Help about being offered fried rice for a grill and they told me that fried rice isn't "cheap." I took that to mean that it is working as intended -- which makes it pretty useless, IMO.

  • So uhm...
    I too have this problem...
Rube  I'll give you a Wood Post for one of your Fox Baits. OK?
Rube  I'll give you a Basic Omelet for one of your Saffron. OK?
Rube  I'll give you a Cheese Plate for one of your Meats. OK?
Rube  I'll give you a Gurly Drink for one of your Saucepans. OK?
Rube  I'll give you a Potato Seed for one of your Meats. OK?

    Street values:
    Wood Post - 150c
    Basic Omelet - 33c
    Cheese Plate - 36c
    Gurly Drink - 160c
    Potato Seed - 40c

While the wood post and the gurly drink are decently valued the other three can hardly be considered anything but cheap... No matter what they say this cant be seen as working as intended, right?

  • Honestly, just give us cards the ups the chance of getting a doll or a cubimal. None of these mincing of words. :)

  • Maybe it has to do with the ratio, rather than the overall value? While those are inexpensive items, he doesn't seem to be requesting any items that are worth almost the same as what he's offering.

  • Well, I got both the rube cards and he came to me twice in one game day, to my surprise! I came away with a grand ol grinder and a spice bean for virtually nothing which is a definite improvement. I was only seeing him about once a week and rarely bothered trading. It's a result for me so far.

  • Anecdotally, I just drank an Essence of Rubeweed for the first time since getting this card, and the second thing he offered me was a Friedrich Nietzsche. My first doll!

  • Dolls are worth 100 currants so the important part of this card was that his blood wasn't so rich he no longer offered those. So while your basic omlette offer is fail...it means yey! He will deal to 100 and below.

@Snarkle--everything he offered you was worth more than 100 currants...and every offer more than doubled the value. The smelters are 700.

What is it that you want from this card?

The dolls have a lower value than everything he offered you.

ETA: you are extremely lucky if this is what you were getting before. After his "salesman certification" dealie he offered me a single stick of butter. Value: 6 currants.
