taking the collectors is one thing but the feeder too? starves the pigs

Hey jerk face who took the stuff on my street - taking for greed is one thing, but taking the feeder will make the pigs starve to death.

So you're taking food from the pigs and everyone else who comes to nibble the pigs.

  • I just posted a Piggy Feeder on the auction that I PURCHASED with my own currants and used for a while until I moved in the test house. I've probably been blocked dozens of times because I no longer have any animals I posted my RHK items in auctions. Oh Well.

  • I agree that we need more control on our home streets. It would be nice to have a lock-unlock option for equipment. Unlock it if you don't mind if someone takes it from your front yard. This would go for tree poisoning and piggy stealing, too.

If TS wants to foster community development it needs to provide us with tools that allow us to share in ways that we prefer. If not, we are merely incentivized to keep our streets barren or to block others (based on assumptions).

Personally, I'd love to have a free stand (like you see on the sides of country roads) on my street where I could put out drinks, food, crops, and whatnot for people to take. And I'd also like to protect my pigs and feeders, etc. For now, pigs and feeders are all in my backyard.

  • Just because something isn't "against the rules" (taking feeders) doesn't mean it's OK.

It's not illegal for me to go on a public bus and complain loudly about a smelly yeast infection....but you just don't do it!  It's common sense.  Some people might not understand common sense, which is completely OK! But, I think it is also completely OK for me to block those people.

It is MY home street, in front of MY yard, with MY stuff for MY pigs. If we were talking about people being upset that they were dropping stuff off at Cerbarkul it would be a different story!

I come here to relax and play a fun game with friends, not have people take things out of my space and have my piggies die in my own lawn because I didn't see that someone stole my stuff!

Edit:  Also, I am very sad that people have come to the "I just don't leave stuff in my front yard because I know people will steal it" feeling. I have felt that way many times in the past and I've been trying to fight it. I love how cooperative Glitch is. I love that you can go to people's home streets and see their beautiful houses!  I hope a few rotten eggs don't ruin this for us.

I wish we'd just have a "place" option for feeders you put in your lawn!

  • I was just about to put up for auction a bunch of RHK stuff that I no longer need due to going from two large houses to (very soon) one very small house. I think I will wait until this blows over.

I am baffled as to why we don't have the option to "place" anything and everything in our front gardens so it can't be removed. How hard would it be to add "place" to the options? So many people are so deeply upset about this; you would think TS would make it a priority...

I would gladly trade the whole fox-brushing thing for the ability to keep (and share) nice stuff in my front garden.

  • yeah my feeder and collector was stolen too. It does starve the pigs. I used to have the pigs near the tree but they didn't seem to eat from it so I moved them over to the other side. I don't care so much about losing the objects and their contents but its depressing to see meat on the ground where there used to be some piggies.

I don't want to see people lock down a lot of junk in their front streets but there has to be a way to keep the piggies alive without checking in to feed them every game day.

  • This could all be solved so simply if TS would just add the Place verb to the feeders and collectors just like the animal sticks have.  That would effectively give people the option to drop their feeder for pigs to eat out of, while still allowing somebody that needs it to come pick it up, But you could also Place if you feel that the feeder shouldn't be removed by somebody else.

I had to leave the wood route for pretty much this very reason.  The pigs can't eat the wood trees, so i set out feeders only to be grieffed every other week by somebody collecting collectors, so i just gave up and joined the egg route. (which sucks because i really enjoyed the wood route and most of the traffic that were not thieves)

TS, I'm calling you out! Is there a technical or philosophical reason that feeders and collectors can be "stolen"?
If not is it on the list of things to be "fixed"?
Otherwise, I fear we're just going to keep clogging up the forums with this pretty lame issue. Please put it to bed... I have faith :)

    ETA:
The more I think about this, the more I think the underlying issue is that you didn't used to have a (public) front yard to put the feeders and collectors in, so it was pretty much a non issue, unless you had a party and invited people you didn't know into your house.  Now that we do have a public space that we want to put non public items in, I'm fairly certain that TS is aware of this issue and I don't really have any doubt that they will fix it.  I just hope they do it soon™

  • I'm for locking down the feeders. I can manage without the meat collectors or I can replace them if they get stolen. That is not a big deal. Some visitors leave stuff other visitors take stuff, I'm not interested in turning into a control freak of my public front street.

Just need a time efficient way to keep the piggies from being starved.
Posted 7 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Until this gets resolved I wonder if we (we who are interested) could take the time to feed the piggies when we visit others' home streets. Its a nuisance I know, you don't have to feed them all but remember to feed them once in awhile.

  • TS said that a thing for deciding if every item could be placed/dropped would be too complicated: dunno why. To make it not as complicated, let's stick with what most people here want: lockable feeders and collectors. Just add a place option to three items, not all of them.

  • I don't know about being able to lock down everything in your front yard but I'm still holding out hope on the ability to lock down RHK its on account of stoot saying this:

"RHK items might eventually be locked (as stills and icons are now).

In the meantime, don't leave stuff out unless you are ok with someone taking it.

Soon there will be other ways to find out who came by while you were out."

  • If TS has some reason why they want to encourage theft (I can't imagine what that would be) couldn't they at least give better indications of when the piggies are hungry? The "I'm about to croak" wailing is usually a last gasp and sometimes too late. How about you make them appear skinny if they are becoming starved?
Posted 7 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • At some point, in some thread, some staff (I'm not going to try to search for it) said that for a place option they would have to make a new graphic so that there wouldn't be complaints about people thinking they had placed instead of dropping.

Another comment from staff has been that in the future there will be another mechanic which makes any work to fixing this now irrelevant.

There are 3 RHK items and the vast majority of players would be able to work the "place"/"drop" commands properly even without another graphic. However, we wait and make replacements.

ETA: @Teresa: hungry piggies dont give meat when nibbled.

  • I think the devs can trust if anyone gets confused between placing and dropping there will be lots of friendly folk on the forum who will happily explain it. :)  So go ahead and make the fix Devs. I promise, we can handle it. :)

  • I wish that our street had the same options as the inside of our houses do, friends with keys have access to all, people without keys do not. simples.

stealing: ~to take or borrow things without permission, for whatever reason.
It causes a lot of grief, and not just to the victims, but also to all those who will have to listen to, appease, compensate these victims, and then they too will  become grieved about it.

The front yard is as much part of the players house as the back yard is. It's the first thing we see when we return home,so many want to have pretty things there for all who visit to enjoy.
But there are those who seek to ruin it,whatever the reason I don't care to know. Their joy is linked to our misery.
I foresee many empty, barren, sad front yards.

  • Metra, they just changed the graphics for the bear, stacked food, pots, pans, etc.... They could have already done the feeder and collector images. Bad excuse, IMO.

Still doesn't matter for me. They can and do take my animals, too. No animals, no feeders, no trees.

  • It is the reason given, I didn't pass judgement on whether it was good or bad.

  • Yep, Buttercup. Barren wasteland for me too, once the houses are reset. Unless things are changed. It really doesn't matter to me either way. I just don't see the point in wasting my resources.

  • But many of us will gladly keep our front yards full of crops and herbs and trees and all manner of things that other people are welcome to gather and harvest and mine.
Posted 7 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ I'm Chris - one or two partially filled piggy feeders on auction does not an RHK tools gatherer make...it's when there are a plethora of the items that make others suspicious...the challenge is, each player will have their definition of how many is in a plethora... ;)

To the others, until they give us a way to determine who is gathering these items off streets, folks are going to have to revert to other means to potentially identify likely candidates for those actions.  Unfortunately, that means some folks may get blocked even if they aren't taking part in these types of actions if they look like they might be doing that activity based on indicators determined by individual players.

But the way I look at it is, if I'm not your BFF right now (and I already know who they are in game), and I think you might be doing something I don't like, it's my choice on if I want to block you (or not) based on my observations of your actions. I might block because of hinky auction selling - whether it's multiples of something that might have been 'gathered' off personal streets or just extreme overpricing.  I might block because you said something that just rubbed me the wrong way in the forums.  I might block because I don't like the clothing you chose from the wardrobe.  I might block because I've had a bad day at work, and you got on my last nerve that day.  I might block you because you sound juvenile or immature, even if you are in your late 50's or 60's.  You could be a gem of a person, but I still might block you just because. I'm probably blocked by hundreds because of what I've said the forums...so be it...

But it's the same way I may friend you in game...I might friend you because you said something really cool in the forums.  I might friend you because you sound like someone with the same values as me based on a status update or something in your profile. I might friend you if we are in the same group. I might friend you because I buy a lot of your stuff on auction and you always have reasonable prices. I might friend you because I really like your outfit.  I might friend you because I really like a snapshot you posted. And I have quite a few friends here...so, being particular about who I friend, who I don't friend, and who I block, really isn't hurting me too much at this point, and probably is a prudent way to play (but that's just my opinion).

Both blocking and friending are judgment calls...and we all develop our own indicators on why we might do one action or the other.  It is what it is...and each of us will do these actions for different reasons...it's not worth freaking out over if someone blocks you even if it was a misinterpretation of your actions...it happens...but you can only control what you can control...blocking, friending, who you give house keys to, and what you choose to place/not place on your street are things in your control.  I just look at it as it is best to use them to their fullest and with good judgment to make my own game experience the most enjoyable because outside of those things, I have zero control over others' actions. I'm not saying I judge another person as good or bad...it's just they may not play the way I would.  I can't change that...but I can chose whether or not I want to interact with them and their style of play in game.

  • Just for the record, I've got one bean tree, two piggies and no pig stick in my front yard. The piggies roam free, eat from the tree and I've never had a problem with them. I even have a 4 plot veg garden there, and I have never been aware of the piggies eating from it. I'm not saying they never do, but I just harvested some spinach that was standing there for 3 RW days. I did put out a feeder and a collector early on, but they disappeared and I didn't replace them. My front yard is filled with stuff, I'm on the bean tree route so I'm visited regularly and, other than those original thefts, no one has ever done anything nasty. Bottom line: I've got happy piggies and lots of other (non-stealable) stuff in my front yard and no problems. Am I just lucky? As a result of writing this will I become a target for griefers?

  • I doubt that anyone would block someone who was selling multiples of any one thing, even feeders and collectors, unless those items were such that they had gone on the market partially filled, strongly suggesting that they had not been personally used by the seller. When I was doing my tool crafting quest, I made a ton of hoes and sold some on auction for a nominal sum just to get rid of them. (I did the same with the products of the tomatoes-and-potatoes quest.) The others I sold to a vendor. Many people who are just trying to get rid of things they own probably do the same. I don't think there are many, however, who have a dozen meat collectors sitting around, let alone a dozen partially filled ones.

BTW, I do appreciate the meat collector that someone generously left outside my test house early on. It's gone now but it wasn't stolen. I moved it so it wouldn't be.

  • FWIW, my front yard was barren of animals, until others populated it with all three kinds. I've always kept a tree, resource route notwithstanding, to feed the pig; the rest took care of themselves. The only things I've added were a stick (to keep piggy by its food) and an herb garden. Never a feeder or a collector. Those are in the backyard where they're safe. When housing is reset, I'll configure it the same way - but I'm not adding my own animals. Someone else adds them, fine; I'll put the piggy stick back. But even then, I'm just not going to put down anything I don't care about keeping. Simple plan. I know that collectors give a little something extra for glitchen passing through, but maybe I'm not that benevolent. If they were lockable then maybe I'd place them.
