Why would the stop our ability to make gravestone art? :(
First they "fix" cubimals so they can no longer fly......thus killing our ability to have cubimal art. Now they take away our ability to have gravestone art. Im feeling a bit pissy over this.
The tombstones, in my view, were obstructions that interfered with other players. Often they were plopped down right where a harvest, etc. was available. Good riddance.
I'm more interested in what the new feature will be than being upset that the tombstones are gone. Will it offer us bonuses for "walking over your own grave" or offer more of a limbo experience or, as Lord bacon-o said, the option to become a ghost. Will Trisor play a larger role in the game now?
I've been putting off dying because I was afraid of leaving a tombstone in a weird place. (Newbie here!) The game will be re-launching at some point, and that means a LOT of new players. Think about how cluttered and ugly the streets would become if every single tombstone stayed where it was indefinitely.
I asked if it was due to technical limitations changing with the upcoming content and was told that was exactly it, so it's quite likely the change has nothing to do with death or gravestones and is just freeing up resources for other changes.
I was also told they are thinking of ways to bring it back for those who like gravestone art.
I would imagine that the resources are needed before they let us in, to make sure it works properly, to make sure they have freed what they needed etc. Sort of how they are changing the fonts and the like -- the changes that require a different font system aren't in game yet, but getting the fonts worked out right before those changes come will make the changes smoother.
@ Muncey...It kills me to think that you found my comments punishing. So sorry! i've been dying to use those but from your comment I can see I made a grave error.
As one of the apparent few that was never a big fan of them once they changed, I'm glad to see the tombstones won't clutter up the areas anymore. Think it's a pretty sad statement when people find one of the most gratifying things in game is dying vice living...I get that it's all tongue in cheek...but still...let's have fun making Ur beautiful and enjoying our Glitch lives and creating cool new and living things (when they finally let us)...hopefully, the changes allow for more positive creative artistic expressions...forgive me for wanting happy cheerful things in game...right now while waiting, the game seems too much like the rut of RL...looking forward to positive changes...
I agree that there's better things to do with a game than die and make tombstones - overall... Just that in the current lull, I think we're grasping at straws lol...
You want to know why we get out of dying in a game, and making art with it? Because its a scary thing in real life. Because in Ur we can die, and then come back to life. Because in Ur.....being dead is just as cool as being alive. Because, Ur is an imagined life, not real life.......And maybe, just maybe it is a way for some of us to cope with real life.
I bet some people dont ever stop to think about what others might be actually feeling or experiencing that is leading them to play a certain way, huh?
(edit to make it more clear, and less snappy. I do not mean my post snappy, just trying to people to see that maybe some us play as a release from real life. Just because you play one way, does not mean we have to or want to play it that way. If you dont like dying in game, please dont.)
Oh, rats. I liked the tombstones. And they didn't seem to last very long. It was weird seeing my own tombstone the first time. But tonight we discovered that with the change, they disappear once you're back from Hell. Phui.
I'm sad for those who enjoyed making grave art but for myself I'm glad they are gone. I always felt that I was 'littering' by dying on a public street and leaving a tombstone.
I won't "miss" the tombstones, but I hope there will be a substitute way to check the highest-favored Giant in the future. Now there is no easy way to determine which emblem is ready for collecting.
/sigh
I didn't think about the compatibility issues with new players, new housing, etc. and the tombstones. It makes *more* sense now, but I wish there had been a different solution besides just, take them away.
And I agree with everything Innie said. (Innie I lobe you <3)
