RUBE trade offers: **RESULTS**

Results of Rube trade offers are as follows. Original post is below that. Prices are based on the encyclopedia worth of each item. See the individual results in the replies to this thread if you're interested in what sort of items were traded, and want to evaluate them based on other types of worth (personal or auction prices).

Results compiled from 235 Rube trade offers (from 47 separate Rube encounters), with normal, mixed inventories (cheap and expensive items):

16% of Rube's offers were worth less than what he wanted in return (a loss for the player).
Average gain the player would have gotten from all trades including ones that would have been a loss: 200 currants.
Average gain the player would have gotten from all trades NOT including ones that would have been a loss: 251 currants.
Gain of most profitable trade offer in this study: 3350 currants

++++++++++++++++
Effects of special inventories: It is clear that eliminating cheap items from your inventory and only carrying expensive ones results in many more bad trades from the Rube, greatly increasing your chances of a loss.

Results compiled from 20 Rube trade offers (from 4 separate Rube encounters), with an inventory only including 0 through 2 stacks of items worth under 100 currants, and everything else worth over 100 currants: (keep in mind that this is not based on very many trades, so the results are much more uncertain than those listed above for normal inventories)

55% of Rube's offers were worth less than what he wanted in return (a loss for the player).
Average gain the player would have gotten from all trades including ones that would have been a loss: 156 currants.
Average gain the player would have gotten from all trades NOT including ones that would have been a loss: 428 currants.
Gain of most profitable trade offer in this study: 2300 currants

Original post:

So, the Rube has taken night classes... and now there have been some anecdotal stories of a "stingy" Rube, or even one that's acting like a down right con-artist, "tricking" people into trading expensive items for something worthless. I propose that we band together to take some real data, for the sake of our fellow Glitches who can use it to evaluate how much time they want to spend with the Rube, and (more importantly) for the sake of the Rube: Tiny Speck can still tweak his personality, and this information will help them learn if they should at all, and what they might do to make him better.

If you would like to participate, here are the rules: (Changed slightly from the original)

1) It's best to wait until the 5th offer before accepting so we can see what all the trade offers would have been, but if you get something totally awesome go ahead and accept the offer, then post the results here (including all previous offers).

2) Write down what the Rube offered to give you, and what he wanted in return for each offer (including the order it was offered in).

3) Take note of anything that might be of interest about the content of your inventory, so we can gauge if that has any effect on the results.

**EDITED to add** : If you get a doll, throw all these rules out the window and let us know what you traded it for.... I don't know of anyone who has publicly stated what they gave the Rube in exchange for a doll since the Rube took his night classes.

Then, just post what you find here. Multiple posts from the same person about different Rube trades are greatly encouraged.

The Rube thanks you!!

  • Normal mix of inventory, didn't use essence:

    high-class hoe for crying gas
    still for irrigator 9000
    spice mill for heavy gas
    rich tagine for crabato juice
    still for firefly jar

They all looked like good deals to me, and I'd have taken the first if not for this thread...

The last did take my filled jar, even though I had unfilled jars in my inventory (it took the farthest left one, which I suspect most people knew, but I hadn't seen definitively answered).

  • I used rubeweed essence (gift from a friend), and was carrying my usual (jumbled) inventory.

    Rube offers were as follows:
    1/5 Fuel cell (300c) for a Cloudberry Daiqiri (142c)
    2/5 Camphor (20c) for Cheese (6c)
    3/5 Cauldron (3500c) for Bubble tuner (150c) - I almost took this one! :)
4/5 Piggy egg (300c) for Hatchet (100c) - almost took this one too - luuurve the piggies! :D
    5/5 Cheezy Sauce (26c) for Plank (5c)

All 5 trades would have been in my favor...
    Average profit - 749c
Highest profit for single trade - 3350c (Wow)

I wonder if the character's level has any effect on the value of the trades offered...

  • Overall I think the trades since the change are not very good, especially compared to how they used to be. The vast majority of them are unexciting (some cheap item for some other cheap item--not very worth it), many are actual rip-offs (BE CAREFUL!), and trades with a big gain are very rare. None of the trades in the full samples were dolls, although one person said they got two for a super scraper each time, with normal mixed inventory. Dolls are MUCH more rare, as is apparent by the lack of them in the auctions. You can decide for yourself if it's worth it to buy rubeweed essence. Personally, I would not buy it given the current state of the Rube, but I would make it.

  • Rube used to be this awesome uncle that would give you very nice stuff if you showed you're a good sport and gave something back to him. Now he's a greedy old junkie who you need to lure with drugs more than a few times to get something expensive. Damn you Rube, you used to be cool!

  • He still gives me good stuff.

creamy catsup for hooch (64 for 15, +50)
scraper for frying pan (300 for 125, +175)
moon for older spice (99 for 9, +90)
tasty pasta for grill (134 for 175, +41)

    Best offer net +175

I used to get so delighted by Rube visits, now it's just "Give me something you have in your inventory for something you don't need, for a beensy tiny currant profit." All of my trades have been like this lately.

ETA: Level 41 at time of trade. :-)

  • I love you guys, thank you so much for doing this.  <3

+1 to Bender and Aviatrix.  I can't stand the Rube visits now and don't even click him when he comes.  As if the song wasn't bad enough now I have to waste my time with crap trade offers?  No thanks.  -_-

*edit* A quick skim through the posts and people's profiles reveals there *may* be a link between level and the type of trades offered.  Has anyone else noticed this?

*edit2* A more detailed reading of all the posts and checking *everyone's* profiles, but without keeping actual numbers, I will say that the users who suffered losses were all above level 45 and *some* of the ones who had the highest gains were below 30.  I think the BIGGEST gain was offered to a player who is level 18 now!  I think everyone who is reporting should add to their post what level they are in addition to the other info because that will help I think. :>

......... this thread is going to give me reason to try out some (more) Essence...
Good luck to everyone in your trading..
