Bigger Green Bag of Ideas (miscellaneous ideas)

Hi!  I have a few ideas that I have been fermenting.  They don't necessarily fit together but rather than writing a ton of posts I though it best to put them all together.

Subscriber Incentive - I like the vanity/clothing and teleportation advantages currently in place, as they don't make subscribers some sort of exclusive club (ew!), but there are a few other opportunities that might be worth thinking about.

Bag upgrades - either a subscriber only Slightly Larger Bag, or if that sounds icky, perhaps an automatic upgrade of a slot or two to normal bags for subscribers?  Inventory space is important, but not a game-breaking advantage imho.  Giving subscribers storage advantages (even small advantages) would make subscribing more delicious. An issue would be managing lost storage space when subscriptions lapse.

Events - Let subscribers post special public party invites somewhere everyone can see them.  I haven't been to an event yet due to either (a) not knowing it was on in the first place or (b) timezone issues.  Events could show time and date in the players computer time, or perhaps you could even click a button to receive a countdown and/or updates on that event.  Help all the Glitchens get together!

Let us make ALL the base cooking items!

Let us brew beer from wheat and honey! Let us fruit change olives and press them for oil, which we can combine with lemon and salt and pepper to make oily dressing! Let us brew hooch from fruit or milk fireflies for honey! I can't think of any base item that couldn't be manufactured somehow - adding these as higher skill options would keep the game chugging along nicely :D

Fish are a tough one though. I would prefer the idea of a whirlywind creating fish rain rather than 'fishing' (which seems to be added to every game). Maybe higher levels could call up whirlywinds to start a fish rain to harvest fish. Oats seem more like a crop kind of ingredient. Sesame oil comes from sesame seeds of course, which are a pretty valid spice option (I know I have some in my spice rack). Same things goes for coffee beans. Just don't ask me about the Crabato Juice!

Custom Houses

I love arranging furniture. I'd love to mix and match the veggie Groddle decor with the polar bear furniture, and use it to brighten up a minimalist Alakol mansion. Furniture could create a whole new arc to the game (use some planks and carrots to make a Carroty Footstool, for instance) with new skills and items, and something more fun to do in our homes. It would take a lot of work to develop something like that, but partying with purple in your new purple apartment could be a lot of fun.

  • "a whirlywind creating fish rain"

Trowzers, I <3 you.  I don't like the overdone idea of fishing either and I think this is a spectacular alternative.  A smallish tornado flinging fish out of it would be just the trick.

As for Crabato juice, maybe ones of the prizes for interacting with a crab (playing music, flattering etc) could be "crab essence" or even better "crab tears" that could be part of a recipe for Crabato juice.

House decorating and upgrades are in the pipeline (you know..."soon").

  • Subscriber Incentives - As for bags upgrades, I think it would be better, in terms of clutter and interface, to have bigger slots than more slots. I'm also not quite sure about the Events thing... I guess the idea is similar to having a (already created) Parties group, where you use the chat to ask about current events - and also we have the Rook Attack and New Streets groups for other kinds of events.

Make base cooking - +1000! That would be really great and, as Nanookie, I love your alternative for the fishing thing. As for crab stuff, since he's such an interesting creature, I think prizes could be different depending on the interaction - and crab tears sounds loovely, for when crabs get really excited about music.

As for house decor, I'll just keep rooting for it :D

Watch out. Some people don't like this.

Fishing—What is a whirlywind for making fish?

All Ingredients Make-able—My question is, why would anyone want to?. If it's buyable, it's usually better to buy it. Time is money. Unless you're proposing that they stop making the base ingredients buyable, I don't see it worth the time to make them.

Bigger Bags for Subbing—I wish I had a quote, but I'm almost 100% positive that they said they do not want to do this.

  • I know some people don't like grouped posts, but equally some people perceive someone starting lots of different threads as 'spam'.  Can't please everyone unfortunately!  So I went with my personal preference.

The whirlywind idea comes from a real phenomenom - when waterspouts or small tornados (here in Australia sometimes called 'whirlywinds' or 'willywinds' - a name I always found fun) travel over water, they sometimes suck schools of fish into the spout.  These fish can be flung high into the air, to rain down over confused people in the middle of towns.  There are lots of real, documented cases and it's a hella more interesting way to get fish than just fishing.

Making ingredients - not everyone is out to make the best energy use/profit possible.  Some people just like crafting stuff and getting badges (I do!).  That said, making your own base items could be done at a small benefit to currants/energy used to make it worthwhile.  I don't propose for a second removing them from the shops as that would be a huge disadvantage to those just starting out or who just don't want to follow that skill path.  In the same way, most veggies are buyable and can be grown, and there are still players who will grow, and buy from the store - whatever suits their game style.

Bags - I know some people find 'premium' store items icky.  And I like the subscriber benefits added so far as they are primarily vanity/convenience based, not gameplay advantages that put off non-subscribers.  But even a single extra place in a bag for subscribers is something I would not have been annoyed at when I was a non-subscriber, but would have found a big plus to becoming a subscriber - and I considred it a convenience, not a gameplay advantage (along the same lines at teleportation).  I'd be interested to hear why it was ruled out, so if you find the link let me know :D

  • Actually, whirlwinds have never been shown to possess the ability to "suck fish" out of water, carry them over land, and then drop them. Whirlwinds, water spouts, and tornadoes tend to pick up and throw things, not carry them large distances. The vast majorities of these instances have actually been shown to be random migrations of fish into overflowing river tributaries, where they get stranded when the storm ends. Especially considering they're usually reported as being alive which doesn't really make sense considering the supposed height they'd be falling from. (Skeptoid)

That being said, I don't see anything wrong with using this idea in-game. A game of imagination using an imagination-generated real-world idea is meta-funny in its own way.

  • Maybe the skill involved wouldn't be so much catching the fish (although in an environment like Plexus, floating around to "catch" fish would be fun), but triggering the whirly fishstorm.  Maybe it could take 2-3 players minimum to generate one.

  • Adding to Nanookie's idea - maybe those three or so players have to jump around in circles.

  • Ok.

    Well, I'm anti-whirlywind now.

  • Awww, you're anti all my things :(

Nevermind! I shall persist with the imaginings!

  • I played with a bunch of Aussies and Kiwis for two years in WoW, and now I can't stop hearing the voice of one of the particularly goofy girls in the guild saying "whirlywind!" over and over in my head. I have this particularly fond memory of her almost passing out at the keyboard from exhaustion and asking "did we get the skellington?" so funny! No one ever said "skeleton" after that!
