Curious why I would need 150 or even 400 credits a month with subscription ?

I received an email about subscriptions and read about the voting and transportation tokens with year subscriptions but why would I want so many credits every month?  And did not see anything about month to month subscriptions.

With my luck I would buy a year's subscription and then we would have a huge solar flare and every computer in the world would die or at least mine. lol

  • If that happened, I doubt we'd need money since the world would be utter chaos... so it probably wouldn't matter anyway. :P

But this is a good question. I'd like to know the same. I'm floating in between which subscription I'd want and I'd like to know why those credits would really be worth it.

  • Personally, the subscription itself is kind of dumb to me because at the moment, the only thing we get different is reflected in the choice of clothing for our avatar and skin color.

If there was to be teleportation benefits, I don't think it'd be enough to make me want to subscribe.  I'd play accordingly to my needs.

And, honestly, I can't think of much that would really make me want to pay to play this game other than the pure satisfaction in knowing that I'm supporting something that I really like.  It's the same thing with music.  I buy music from artists instead of downloading it, because I want to support them.

Same goes with Glitch.  This is an awesome game and I would pay 5 bucks a month to support their creativity and dedication as a developers.

  • There is more coming that you can buy with credits, like decorations and upgrades for your home.
Posted 19 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That would depend on how many clothes you're likely to buy in a month.

  • Alterations to our houses and group halls are coming. I presume they will be credit items.

  • I have purchased an awful lot of clothing (and chicken & rabbit suits and skeleton costumes, etc.) so the yearly high-end subscription will come in very handy for me, I'm sure. I am also one who just can't wait to be able to buy stuff for my home but I am guessing that will come after beta (that is a lot of inventory to keep track of as we are to keep all "real money" items into the launch).

  • True...There is no point after you bought all the clothes you want....how about some other special privileges?

  • Eulogio: see the other (long) posts on this subject.  Subscription benefits will be cosmetic.

  • Every feature on my face and my haircut and color are all subscription only items and I just wouldn't feel like me without them. Also new clothes will be added all the time, so buying all the clothes you want (and of course the matching shoes) is a continual thing. I can't wait for the furnishings and decorative items for our houses. Also the teleportation tokens are going to be mighty handy for projects. I know they are working really hard at making sure that people can't just buy their way to the top in the game which is why the items you purchase are primarily decorative in nature.

I would also like to see the holiday's get more attention both the in world ones and the real ones. No one seems to even know what the in world holidays mean so they are not getting celebrated. Holiday items we could purchase with credits would be cool. Also I like the idea from another thread about Super Jump Tokens we could buy, they would be great for conga lines, in the areas where there is lots of cool stuff to climb around on or just cause you feel like jumping around for awhile for the sheer funness of it.

ETA: Oh and with a subscription you get that cute little heart next to your name to show you've been showing your Glitchy love. As the froggy would say, Money is love made manifest.

  • They've been pretty clear that credits will be used for cosmetic items. Sure, that might change. And what is "cosmetic" might have a broader definition than we thing (or at least cover things that haven't occurred to us). They've been thinking about this for a while, and certainly want to make money to support it. Venture capital money (or however that works) only last so long. I only say that to indicate that I am SURE they have floated MANY ways to maximize revenue (which is a balance of drawing new players and not alienating old players and giving all of them things to buy.

With that out of the way, let's just look at what is available now.... which is clothes (ignoring subscription only items, teleportation tokens and votes). Clothes cost, right now, anywhere from 15 to 75 credits. If you have already purchased an outfit you are very happy with and don't plan to change, great. Put let's say you do want to shop sometimes. A full bunny suit is 105. Chicken suit is 90, I think. So at 150, you could but a full suit and one or two other midrange items a month. That seems reasonable. BUT if you were a clothes hound, you certainly might spend significantly more.

So, sure 400 seems extreme-ish right now... but that basically means you'd never need to worry about buying clothes.

Reminder: New clothes are added all the time.

Seems somewhat obvious to me to find the price point that works for you. If you want to feel free to buy whatever you want, go big. If you want to just buy a bit, smaller. If the cosmetic things aren't important to you, don't buy.

Buying now might also be a risk. You may never find enough things to buy. When housing stuff is launched (or anything else), you might find that there is nothing you want. You take that risk buying now. You also take the risk of the deal ending and having to pay more.

Here is a VERY poor analogy: You can buy a subscription to HBO. You know you have liked their shows in the past, but their next shows may be terrible. Or you could buy individual episodes but pay more. (Actually, you can't... I told you it was a bad analogy.)

  • This is just about the perfect answer, Lord Bacon-o: "… find the price point that works for you. If you want to feel free to buy whatever you want, go big. If you want to just buy a bit, smaller. If the cosmetic things aren't important to you, don't buy."

That's pretty much how we intended it :)

  • Nooooo so gift packs are already gone? I didn't know they'd be ending today (er, yesterday)...
Posted 19 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yep, those are gone, but: (a) the credits are still being doubled and (b) other forms of gifting (credits, subscriptions, etc.) will be added fairly soon.

  • Do they or will they offer month to month subscriptions?
Posted 19 months ago by xoxJulie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • They will offer month-to-month subscriptions later.

  • I have 6 dresses, 7 skirts, 29 shoes, 43 pants, 15 hats, 65 shirts, 10 jackets, 2 bunny suits and 2 butterfly outfits. much fun! that is cake. more is icing. and I do love icing. i just play dress up, catch fireflies or spend a whole day amusing myself naming pigs. i don’t know why it makes me giggle. i have already purchased my subscription. i've gotten my moneys worth and i anticipate continuing satisfaction. more icing would be street festivals, carnivals, picnics, music concerts, being able to dance, moonwalk or cartwheel. then i would need a wench dress, rock tshirt, chaps to go with my cowgirl hat, black highwater pants and white socks and something gingham.  :)

  • Dumb question that I haven't seen answered yet, though it probably has and I probably just missed it: are teleportation tokens actual items that you could sell or auction off? I ask because I want to subscribe at mid-level but the tokens aren't a huge draw for me since I plan on learning Teleportation IV and V ASAP. But if I could sell them off for currants then that's definitely worth something.
Posted 19 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Cerulean: they are not items (like, they don't go into your inventory, etc.) But, with Teleportation IV you can create Teleportation Scripts (which are items). Anyone can "imbue" a Teleportation Script with a token (which makes it free to the script's eventually user being able to teleport for free). So, maybe you could barter your services in imbuing scripts for something you want more?

  • Whoah, when did you guys sneak in new Teleportation skills? ;)

  • Good to know; thanks!

  • Alturin — they'll be in when the test starts later today :)

  • Excellent!

  • Oh I see... when I ask about teleportation scripts, I get nothing, and when Cerulean asks, he gets a clear explanation.  Have I not plied the giants with enough bourbon?

So umm, hey, Cerulean, can you ask what time the test opens?   :D
Posted 19 months ago by glum pudding Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ahaha we probably shouldn't push our luck. I imagine the devs haven't given a clear answer yet because they aren't 100% sure of it themselves (as to when the game will go up).

  • I think stoot got hypmotized into answering by the word Cerulean. Here, let me try...

Cerooolian bluuuue is an open test...

P.S - hip hip hooray for tradable subscription goodies!

  • Lol. I heard through the grapevine that the game will be opening in 12 minutes. But I could be being misled.
Posted 19 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • See, I was WAY wrong. Anyway, back to Subscriptions. I saw this answered somewhere before but I can't be sure, so I was hoping to get some quick clarification.

If I buy Copper now, I can upgrade to Molybdenum at any time by just paying the difference (in annual price), right?

EDIT: Nevermind, it was JUST answered by Staff, lol.
