Maybe I misunderstood. Where the heck is my rook attack.

Okay, so it was my understanding that when you roll a Rook with the 12-sided die, there was a tiny pseudo Rook "attack." Well, I just rolled it and all I got was -50 mood. No bird. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS STUPID DIE, THEN. WHAT.

  • the point of this dice is "there's one chance out of 12 that you'll get -50 mood", kind of Russian Roulette :)

  • here's how it works.
    there's a 1/24 chance of getting a rook
    how?
    1/12 to get one
    1/2 for it to come.
    hope that helps
    thanks.

  • I've witnessed dice-based rook attacks before. Best way to see one is to get a bunch of people together and just keep rolling and rolling and rolling.

  • I've seen 2 types of rook attacks from the dice so far. Got 2 in one night, I rolled rook 3 times, got a red screen, rook attack..blah blah, stunned animals, revive, then someone else rolled a rook attack but this time...One showed up walking across my screen, pecked a hole in the corner of it, then flew across the screen and left scratch marks with it's talons..it also looked at me and flapped it's wings at me.

I'm wondering how the dice work and also how often you can get rook attacks since it seems from those 2 incidents each time the attack appears to be getting worse.

DEVS: how about a hint? I don't have a week to sit here rolling the dice.

  • Yeah, I've seen them summoned with dice twice now, both times it flashed "rook attack" on the screen, they came and attacked animals and trees, and once I got to see a rook fly by in the background, but then they leave right afterwards and the music goes back to normal, ect.

Someone was just telling me that you can't summon a "full" attack where they're walking across the screen, but Crispa you're saying they did?  did a shrine appear too?

Would love a hint from the devs or anyone with more info, frusterating getting a bunch of people together only to have the rooks do a "fly by" and then leave

  • Dice do NOT create full Rook attacks. Never have.

I believe they are waiting to include full Rook attacks the the game until enough folks know Piety/Martial Imagination. If there was an attack right now, we'd never fight them off. (I am unclear if there would actually be an consequence of no fight them off...)

  • L B-o, I tripped across a full attack in Aranna in the first few days after launch. I had NOTHIN' to help with, tried to revive things but my mood and energy kept dropping while the birds kept tearing up my screen. I believe jdawg was there and had MI/Piety but we didn't have enough people to stun. After a while, it just kept going and it was clear my glitch was heading to Aitch-Eee-double hockeysticks soon if I didn't bug out. FF was the only other glitch who I remember being there. I haven't seen any others since then.

Cerulean, in my experience, the die doesn't ever precipitate a full attack, but perhaps 1/5 of the Rook Rolls bring on a mini-attack (sometimes with a bird fly-by). The first time I ever visited the stoot shrine, larky lion rolled one!

But the vast majority of the time... it's a mood killer. Load up on Cosmas and happy rook rolling!

  • There have been a number of full attacks up in Aranna since a few days after launch, I've participated in quite a few of them. I think the one Lilith mentioned is the first one one I saw and triggered me to change my skill path to get MI as soon as possible, as nobody had the requisite skills at that point so staff had to come and save the day! I've not seen any the last few days but they've definitely been going on, I have half a bag of spicy grog on standby ready for the next one I come across...

  • The one time I stumbled into a mini attack, I helped revive a chicken and a tree. But I didn't notice receiving any kind of benefit (or cost) from doing so - no XP, no mood lift, etc. Does anyone know if you're supposed to "get" anything from helping? If not, then what's the point? (Other than altruism, which let's face it, is not much motivation in a game.)

  • I think what's happening here is factors (number of people nearby, area of the map IE I've only seen rolling a rook summon them in Aranna, nearby people with MI or piety, whatever else they're using) determine the strength of the rook attack, I'd be very, very surprised if there are really 2 different types, and that the dice don't have the potential to summon a "full" attack.  We've rolled rook 6+ times in an area without summoning an attack -  It makes sense that there might be some sort of area "cool down" too, otherwise people could just constantly summon them and grief/harass an area.

If there were 2 different types, wouldn't they call it something different, instead of having "rook attack" flash on you screen in big letters?  I think it's more likely that people just haven't found all the right circumstances to provoke a full, lasting attack.
