Its getting old guys

Oh no! Your feeder or milker has been stolen!.....So? It happens. If anything, you should be thanking the person who did it. They're adding a little bit of spontaneity to your everyday game play. Plus, even if you lost something of worth, do you honestly think a post with you complaining its gone is gonna get it back to you?. Its not. Its called greifing and these posts only encourage them. Dont leave stuff outside for people to take. Thats like dropping a funpickle in a street next to a note that says " don't take this, I had to log off." Of course someone is going to take it!!! Its like 700k! But your coming on here complaining about feeders and milkers and sticks! Thats kinda sad. Theyre 400 each. Buy some more. And please, to everyone who posts about how they dont like what happened to them, stop! It doesnt help, It just annoys people. Grrrrrrrrr.

  • I gave up for a while, but changed my mind and now every time my Home Street collectors disappear I make more and replace them.

When it first started happening I left a note in my yard, offering to pay the players the price of what they were taking. Still they vanished, but a few times other players who saw my note (and the absence of collectors) left me notes and new collectors, which was an awesome style of game-play and a much preferred bit of spontaneity.

So I would have to disagree that it doesn't help to complain. We're in beta. The devs have said that the Public/Private nature of Home Streets is in flux and the more ideas/thoughts/perceptions they hear (on ALL sides of the issue) the better.

That said I would rather see threads of IDEAS about the issue rather than multiple competing "Whars mah STUFF?" threads, but if people need to vent, people need to vent.

  • TLDR version: Don't milk your funpickle while in public.

    Amirite?

  • Thank you, The Cat Face. I would also like to see threads of IDEAS rather than "stop yer whining, suck it up", because those are really not helpful either.

  • I think that these kinds of posts are really discouraging to people who actually want to give feedback because we're beta testers and that's what we're supposed to do.  It would be one things if the devs had already made a firm decision on the matter, but they haven't yet, so people might as well air their opinions now, when they have a chance of actually making a difference in the direction of the game's development.

TL:DR - we're in beta, so all opinions, whether you agree with them or not, are valuable

  • I think at this point, anyone who puts things on their home street is asking for them to be taken. If you post in the forums, you probably read them and have seen that at this point the streets are public.

As for questions, comments, dissent from the ranks: I say keep 'em coming.

  • When we have the ability to increase our yards and build animal pens, how many people will still put collectors in their streets? I think this is only a temporary problem.
Posted 9 months ago by MaryLiLamb Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree with mary.

Feedback is always useful to the devs. It is not really complaining because hopefully there is someone counting up how many of us really dislike being able to be griefed on our streets by anonymous cowards.

  • Okay, so let's be constructive, then. The continued loss of feeders, etc. makes the case for having an established set of lockable yard-items. Once we can imagine more backyard space (assuming we can), home-street "theft" may become less of an issue anyway, but it's deffy nice to see the home streets alive with animals.

It'll also be lovely to have drop-boxes. I haven't put out feeders, but I've had notes taken from my yard that were left for me by friends, and that, to me, makes me sadder than a feeder-taking ever could.

I think a lot of the taking is likely the work of a handful of people. One such glitch on my home street told me she "makes her living" by picking up stuff off of home streets. She said the stuff is fair game, and she's right. She used my signpost to get to friends' yards and pick up stuff there too. The one thing that truly left a bad taste in my mouth was her statement, "I don't care if it makes you sad. I don't know you, so I don't care how you feel."

So yeah. Giving more options to lock items in yards (if we choose) and providing drop boxes would be a great way to balance out the give-and take.

  • Here are 3 things permitted by game mechanics: stealing whatever is not nailed down, complaining that your stuff got stolen, ranting that you are annoyed because somebody complained about stuff getting stolen.

Of these three things, I find complaints from people whose stuff got stolen the LEAST annoying.
Posted 9 months ago by Dotcom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 Dotcom on that note

  • Ohhh! @Rook, i honestly thought you were the OP to begin with!

And honestly, we dont need another thread complaining--- you say complaining threads are annoying, so what exactly are you doing?

I think people should, and do have freedom of speech, if people want to whine and complain, they should be able to, otherwise, the creators of this lovely game won't know exactly what people do and don't want. i understand, oh noes my stuff got stolen can get a bit frustrating-- yes, if it's on the ground you surely can take it, but i think people are more frustrated on the code of ethics, if someone were to know the person doesn't want there stuff taken, then maybe just leave it.

Treat other's as you would wish to be treated.

    Just my two cents.

  • No, complaining's not gonna get it back. But we're in beta and TS has ASKED us to give our opinions about how the new housing should work. So that's what people are doing.
Posted 9 months ago by diaveborn ♥ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • yes. They asked for feedback. Not a bunch of people whining.
Posted 9 months ago by The Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I do agree there are constructive ways of doing it and non-constructive ways and some of the discussion could be more constructive.
Posted 9 months ago by diaveborn ♥ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • *falls asleep on giant pile of stolen things* .....

dont put it outside if you dont want to lose it, simple as that.  the new houses will probably have lots of room IN them to store your precious hoarded crap.

I would not mind having the ability to lock things down on the street in front of our houses, this will save everyone from having a meltdown when their collectors are stolen.

*wanders off to see who has what outside their houses...FREE STUFF!*

  • Folks, while the devs may or may not be working on something to combat the arguing and complaints, just don't add more fuel to the fire. if you don't like your stuff getting stolen, DON'T PUT STUFF THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. You putting things there in the first place is the reason for all the arguing and complaints.
Also, I think that if the devs made the collectors unstealable and uncollectible from, I think all of everyone's problems would be solved. No more arguments and no more complaints. Cause the only people complaining are the ones whose stuff gets "stolen." After all, no one's going to be complaining, "It's not fair that I can't take or collect from the collectors and feeders from people's housing streets!" if the feeders and collectors were locked down. So I think that if TS made feeders and collectors unstealable and uncollectible from, I think all would be well. No arguments, no complaints.

  • How to post on forums
Posted 9 months ago by Innie✿, Obviously Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Actually, I'd like to put collectors out in the front and have anyone be able to collect from them. I just want them to remain there so anyone can use them, not just the one person who steals it.

And yes, these items can be taken, as the game mechanics exist now. Everyone knows that already. A number of people (including me) are asking if that mechanic can be changed and giving reasons why such a change might be beneficial. They have a right to be heard too (because of beta and all), not continually be told in all-caps what they should or shouldn't be doing.

It sure would be nice if the buckets of cold water could be put away for a while.

  • You're right, The Rook. It is getting VERY OLD - people being called whiners for expressing their opinion! This is beta. We are supposed to be expressing our opinions. It is getting "very old" that we can't do that without the same people popping up again and again saying that we are "whining." And frankly, even if it wasn't beta, there is nothing wrong with people expressing opinions that may or may not be popular. This company has offices in the USA and in the USA we have free speech. We are allowed to express our opinions, good or bad, right or wrong.

  • @Branfowl

Fortunately, non-subscriber voices have just as much weight as subscribers in the forums  They can start threads, they can respond to other people's threads, they can make suggestions, they can complain.  All of us are beta testers and all of us have just as much influence with TS.

Paying money for pretty clothes doesn't make you a better tester or a more important tester or superior in any other way.  When TS wants to know what subscribers think, they ask them.  Like: "do you prefer sloths or monkeys?".
