iMG, why am I hoarding it, what will I need it for in future?

I am curious about how much iMG we should have on hand at any time.

I seem to be hoarding large amounts, afraid to spend too much as I don't want to go below a certain number.  And, when I do dip below, I collect more and let it get well above that number before I spend even a little.

I'm not (that I know of) a hoarder.  Maybe I am and I just can't admit it?

It seems as if I have enough to buy all the cards and house changes but I'm afraid to spend it.  How much should I be keeping on hand?

Are there major changes coming up that will require tons of iMG?  Will my unamed-as-of-yet butler die if I don't feed him copious amounts of iMG every day?  Will the sloths one day start pelting me with scrap metal if I don't meet their demands for my well-saved iMG?

I'm very concerned, please advise.

  • Spend it! You have to spend iMG to make iMG. Buy brain capacity and quoin multipliers. Buy upgrades that make your harvests more fruitful.

The more you spend, the easier it is to get more iMG. Hoarding it is counterproductive.

    Use your imagination!

(That should totally be Glitch's tagline, if I do say so myself.)

  • I think that the design expectation is that we'll spend it as we get it, at least until our characters are more-or-less fully developed.  It's always possible that something will change, but I think upgrade cards and yard/home street cultivation are the things that we're meant to spend iMG on and we shouldn't expect to have some other big demander of iMG turn up.

  • I would advise spending img on cards that increase your coin multiplier and that give you bonus imagination for using tools. I'd also recommend cards that increase your chances of super harvests. This will make it easier to get back larger amounts of imagination when you need to save up for something big. Then you can spend as much imagination as you'd like without having to worry about saving it for something new.

  • The only reason not to spend img is if you anticipate there will be something you'd rather spend it on in the future :P If you're just blindly speculating that there might be, Pascale has it right. Just spend it! You should be able to earn it back faster later if you do :P

EDIT: Or you could just accumulate so much img you could never possibly spend it all anyway. That was my approach to the problem. Now I'll always be ready for anything new. Since this character is so advanced because of that mindset, I think I'll get an alt once the new tutorial is up :) I recommend that to everyone ;) Looking at the game all bright eyed and bushy tailed again will be fun!

  • I earn between 5000 and 10,000 img per day and I spend it all on upgrade cards.

  • If you're interested you could spend your iMG on expanding your street to it's limit and maxing out a single type of resource to join our new Micro Express Resource Loop?

  • Oh, thank you all!  Great ideas.

One more question, since I have so much, do the upgrade cards for "earning extra img every time you " do something actually pay off?  They seem to cost so much that I'd never benefit from them.

And, what  about the cards that give img when I use a tool I haven't used in so long I can't imagine ever using it again?  Like, the awesome pot one, I never cook anymore.

Still, maybe I'll change my mind one day and start cooking for new glitches once the game is open again...

I guess  I could just try to stop hoarding so much!

    thank you!

  • the quoin multiplier cards are essential for me. Buying those increases the value of iMG I can get each game day. (each iMG quoin is now 60 iMG for me now) Many of the other cards include upgrades that have made it easier to gain iMG via increased resources collected for making things.
I've just completed the increase of back and front yard but still need more to buy the cards I've not purchased yet.
I'm avoiding the brain capacity cards until I've finished the quoin cards. I'm also avoiding the skill learning cards because I've learned everything I want to learn at the moment.
Also I'm not buying the cookery cards for improving my cookery tools so I can break them more and get the achievement for mending them.
I have got the cards for extra iMG when creating/making things, any way to get extra iMG is worth it, and they're not expensive cards.

  • Minkey, I've noticed that the 'earn extra img for cooking' upgrade has paid off nicely (will check the name for you). Sometimes I get almost as much if not more bonus img for making a batch of something as the base amount I'd get anyway.

  • Minky, a suggestion for cooking. Awesome Stews and Chili Busting Chili are great for getting guano out of batterflys. You get 3 guano for each single serving you feed them.  If you make large batches, you're more likely to get the img bonuses for cooking them. Plus, if you gather the raw resources yourself, you can sell extra produce at the produce vendors, you'll get a bunch of gardening bonuses (I had one run where I'd managed to acquire about 20 music blocks - one of which was 10 of a kind, which gave me some nice bonuses at the shrines.) and you get some tinkertool bonuses for having to fix the gardening tools. Plus, if you pet and nibble twice on each piggy you run across, that's another 48 img per pig. And meat's another good thing to donate at the shrines for extra img.

  • Thank you Jiva and Voluptua Sneezelips (bless you) for your ideas too.

I think I should consider buying everything that makes sense, even if it doesn't make sense to me right now.  If that makes sense!

Ex: don't buy any of the learning-speed-up cards because I have nothing left to learn
do buy cards that could apply, even if it isn't clear to me right now how they'll apply

    Yeah, I like that!

    Thanks all!

  • There are likely to be new skills that those "speed up learning of" cards will apply to, eventually. I purchased almost all of the other non-brain upgrades and then started buying the speed up cards just to get them out of my deck. I'm hoping it will pay off some day :)

  • I hoard some iMG, not to Liza's level, but I buy only cards that have a return. Any iMG over 100k I spend on my house (unless saving up for a +5 brain capacity card)

Also, Awesome stew is overkill for feeding batterflies. The highest energy food they can use is 100e, so Rich Tangine (101e) is just about perfect.

  • I've been accumulating a lot of IMG lately, not because I want to but because I am not being offered too many cards that I am interested in. I spend very little time outside the home streets so I do not want quoin multiplier cards. I have almost all the skills so I don't want the speed up learning or brain increase cards.

Yes I understand that they might introduce new skills etc, but why should I upgrade until I see the need? And it is going to take a lot more than snails to tempt me back into Ur where the quoins are.

I spend my IMG on expanding my tank and making bigger batches and the like. But sometimes those cards don't turn up for (what seems like) a long period of time.

I don't like holding on to a lot of IMG but sometimes I just get stuck with it.

And the "earn extra IMG" cards have really paid off for me. I regularly get 1000+ IMG bonuses for cooking, making spice etc. I think those cards are a great bargain. I'm no grinder and I don't play to get IMG but bonuses are always fun! Thank you TS!

  • thanks for all the input!

since I'm planning on joining a route, I've been redecorating my yard.  I have spent just over 20,000 iMG and it was fun!

funny, I stilll have tons left.  I guess it doesn't hurt to spend it after all.

  • I used to keep over 1 million at a time and then I started spending and it is way more fun. It's pretty easy to gain imagination and gaining just enough for a card (then repeating) is pretty fun and creates goals in the game!
