  • Belonging in plant, part kindles the soul, but partaking in wholly currantcy opera is ground abrading and face making.

  • Ok, so there's a guy who went to the alakol model home, and put stuff on auctions that Messy Monster and Company had left. 5 Pages of stuff.

  • This sounds dreadfully like the same sort of 'deal' that happens with the Wickadoon Tree Gang.

An 'in crowd' (and oh how you've bonded with each other in this thread) lays out 'bait' and when what anybody at all in the game knows will happen, they can be all cool and smug about how horrible the unwashed public are.  And what a wonderful 'community' they are being with each other.  In their little clique.

    Very, very sad.

  • i would agree with you parrow g, except messy monster is not in an "in" crowd.

  • THEN WHO WAS AUCTION?
Posted 12 months ago by Boom and Bust Subscriber! | Permalink
  • yeah but parrow it's been a pretty porous in-crowd...

i think it's fun to put lots of resources on the ground and look at them together

there's this really perverse, intoxicating fun to just putting stuff down and not feeling compelled to PICK UP PICK UP PICK UP like the devs probably hope we do

i've had more fun talking to people in there than i've had the whole game so far and i've muddled my way to being a level 32

since creative fast accumulation strategies tend to get nerfed anyway it's no wonder that someone would want to try obscure raiding strategies like hitting parties and community gardens. for me i'm finding there's more pleasure in just getting a bunch of people to throw their stuff together and freely give each other staples/raw materials, because it's my first experience of relaxed abundance in the game.

it's fun to just talk to people and hang out. jump on the rainbow potion thing. play charades. splank each other. social dynamics players otherwise have to get invited to a costly private party to experience, or go into a more stressful environment (neva neva, street project, rook attack etc).

i am definitely the unwashed public of this game. steered clear of any of that tree war shit because it sounded like a hassle. i am impressed that there are people who can only deal with the scenario of people doing nothing but give by taking faster than the people can give it until the place is totally cleaned out. i want to get an insight into this behavior because it happens in real life too, and i think that in real life people are going to need to develop some serious cooperation and communication skills or there is going to be a major crisis of survival.

  • @ruptures " and i think that in real life people are going to need to develop some serious cooperation and communication skills or there is going to be a major crisis of survival."
If I wouldnt un-marry Da Messy I would un-merry you for what you said.
It is exactly what I try to say since long time and not only in this game but as part of Virtual Comunication that reflects the Real comunication.
My deep hope is for a Human and more easy comunication between people whoever they come from or their beliefs.

  • One point that needs to be made is that the 'end game' of Glitch, if there is one, is a world of abundance.  Once you have the house you want and 300-400k currants there isn't much point in just making 'that number' go up.  (I suppose if you're one of the Beanie Baby... er.. Cubimal obsessive types you'll need to burn through an extra million or so, of course)

Parties and group item pile-ups become celebrations of abundance.  Me, I certainly would not even want most of the junk items that people litter party areas with.  Lousy +30 food items and dumb 'drinks' that will raise my mode a few percentage?  They clog my bags.  But there are people whose game-play consists of 'keeping score' and we all need to accept that they are here amongst us.

It's hurtful and a negative act to come down on people still struggling to get to a plateau where they can relax a little and figure out their 'end game.' They might need those food items to stay out of Hell, while you just see them as party decorations.  Likely when said players reach abundance they will tame down and realize they were acting a little ridiculous being so grabby earlier.  Maybe they will never 'wake up' and figure out that becoming a currant billionaire isn't even anything other players will notice or care about, but it's their prerogative to act as they will.  And our perogative as individuals to judge them.  Freedom of Association and all that.

Right now 'real estate' and 'public space' aspects of the game are in flux, and it's actually a good thing for all of us in whatever fashion we choose, to role play for the devs so when they do get the lid screwed down on their design it will be suitable and fit with the ways people are gonna act in-game.  But the way things stand, people have to acknowledge, if they are going to be fair, that when they are in a public space, their 'decorations' are just 'stuff' to some other players.  They might even be eyesores to some who feel their civic duty is to whisk it all away into a disposal shrine.

  • Parrow, I don't think anyone was surprised that things were taken, I know that I do not set things down.. with out the expectation that they will be taken. Their group puts things out FOR people TO take. But in any instance, party or otherwise.. people do go.. "ugh, that sucks" when someone comes in and cleans them out entirely.

I also allow (in my head) for people who role play any role they choose.. so to me, if they want to even role play a thief..and take things and sell them, really not much can be done.

I am a food snob, and actually rarely even eat now..AND have most of what I want..so I get what you are saying about garbage food and cubimals. But.. putting out anything *actually energy or currant-wise suuuper valuable would be a waste (because most who need help aren't at a sufficient level to truly need that.. and because it would be far more appealing to those who would want to clean them out.)

Over all I agree though.. when you do it.. you kinda have to expect that it will be taken. But on the other hand, we kinda have to expect that people will be disappointed when it is.
