A Guide to Cultivate Item Restore Costs

I got the idea for this guide after doing an experiment on whether img costs go up after removing items and replacing them. The img costs always stay the same and do not continue to go up after removing and replacing. (example: if you have 3 of same item, the cost will always be the same as placing the 3rd item). However if you wait until all 3 are depleted and remove them all then replace them all, you get the lower costs placing numbers 1, 2 etc.

I have determined that i will prefer to just remove and replace most of the items because the time it takes me to earn the img is shorter than the time to collect the materials and the time it takes for the tool units. You also get resources when you remove the item as opposed to spending time and resources to restore it.

BUT I MADE THIS GUIDE ANYWAY!

  • This list is super useful! Now those of us who restore other people's resources know what to carry. Thanks UrgleBurger :)

  • I have to agree that the costs are very high Urgle! Thanks for putting this together :) Woulda taken me quite a while to gather all that information myself.

  • Thanks Urgle!
This might sound stupid, but I hope they increase the imagination cost for those items or there will be no point to restore them whatsoever.

  • I prefer restoring. It is fun!
Thanks for making the list, UB!

  • This might make it expensive to keep a lot of stuff on your street, or at least active stuff.
Great job on getting to all together !

  • I think it would depend on your level.  I am sure people without a lot of imagination might want to restore, especially since they can get more imagination during the collection.  Also, it might depend on the ingredients and what each person has or can make.  And maybe there will eventually be restoration quests or badges.

AWESOME LIST!!!  Thanks for compiling all this.

  • What it depends on is the worth of the items you're using to restore :) If you donate the items to a shrine, the imagination that comes out is proportional to both your mood (I think) and the value of the item. With full mood you get 2.4 imagination from each favor point donated. Using EHSP the amount of favor points will be three times greater, so it's often better to use the powder.

Soooo, basically if you get more imagination out of the shrine from donating the items than it would cost to replace the resource, it's probably better to remove and replace than it is to restore.

I won't do the math, cuz I'm lazy, but I'll leave the principle here and someone can figure it out ;)

  • Cool, thanks! It occurred to me last night that using 'remove' would result in paying for the resource again in iMG, and a 'restore' costs materials. Either way, it's a bargain!

I had some wonderful glitches restore my street last night while I slept. Join the Resource Route and feel the love!

  • Wow! fantastic, thanks.

  • "examining" a plop makes you no longer have a plop, so yes, Pale Queen.

That's going to be the one reason to feed piggies the slow way, so you're not wasting 4-seed plops on restoring gardens.

  • I did some projects earlier and noticed that they take PLANKS, not boards. It definitely did say boards earlier though, TS must have changed it on the sly.

I believe it was a barnacle and a jellisac specifically that took 4 planks.

  • See www.glitch.com/forum/ideas/... in the Ideas forum for a suggestion to provide incentives to use the projects, rather than remove and replace.

  • I just re-checked the jellisacs and it is planks and not boards, my error. I corrected the original post
Posted 7 months ago by UrgleBurger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Barnacle Pods also only need planks and not boards. You might wanna re-check all the ones you have boards for.

  • Are you kidding?  I still need something to use my massive loam stash on.  I can't seem to stop piling it up.

  • The plops requirement for gardens is insanely annoying; just when they'd allowed for multifeeding (yay), now we have to go back to the 3/per (as feeding a large quantity doesn't result in proportionately more *plops*, just seeds).   Unpleasant, tedious and grindy.

iMG rewards for restoration projects are coming.

We'll have to see how those rewards will shift the calculation.

  • Are the energy costs for 1 unit of work with a tool the same across all tools, or, for example, does it take a different amount of energy to do one unit of watering than one unit of construction?
Posted 7 months ago by Humbabella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Different -- sometimes at least.    With barnacle pods, the construction tool took 1 energy per unit of work, but the shovel took 2 energy per.
Posted 7 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Anyone want to post all the data on the energy costs for each tool on each project?  Sounds like fuuun!
Posted 7 months ago by Humbabella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Doing jellisacs just now, both the construction tool and the shovel used two energy per unit of work -- so perhaps I was wrong or confused last night.  Both are quite possible.
Posted 7 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • To use a really simple example, metal rocks respawn 40 times before running out.  You get an average of around 56 chunks per rock, so 2260 chunks before repairing.  2260 chunks is worth 11.3k at list price.  The materials to repair at worth 633 at list price plus 300 energy in work and approximately 36 energy in repair costs for tools (I'll have to double check this).  At approximately 10 to 1 this is similar to keeping butterflies in your yard except that it isn't automated.  I'm going to try to squeeze in some time to do research on this, but it's a long haul to deplete resources and I'll probably be too busy saving the world from Diablo in the short run.
Posted 7 months ago by Humbabella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • the real kicker are the energy costs, for example large plot : 150 construction tool units means 900 energy, 200 shovel units means 1400 energy. count those as currants, too, and just donating for iMG and renewing *is* cheaper. (and less hassle...)
Posted 7 months ago by JacquesNorris Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, in most cases the energy and material costs will be far beyond the iMG cost to replace. The exception would be heavily expanded streets with a great many resources, especially if there are many of that type.
Posted 7 months ago by Tamutnefret Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Project requirements are being simplified and the costs are going down. They will also reward imagination to contributors. The iMG costs of cultivation are also going up. Baby steps!
Posted 7 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Awesome!

I don't especially mind the cultivation costs going up. They always seemed a little cheap to me compared with some of the other uses for iMG. Some of the lifespans seem a little on the short side. It would be nice to be able to renew the resources less often, even if they were more expensive.
Posted 7 months ago by Tamutnefret Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So the cost to put a new resource in is going up but the cost to maintain them is going down? Sounds like a good plan to me.
Posted 7 months ago by Fleep Subscriber! | Permalink
  • This is what I have for the new barnacle pod restoration:

    12 planks (I think)
    20 hatchet units

    5 cardamom
    20 lumps of earth
    3 barnacles
    20 shovel units

I restored everything, and got 150 iMG.
Posted 7 months ago by Scarf Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sparkly Rock is now:
2 plain crystals, 30 pick units (x8 energy each), 1 essence of rookswort, 1 essence of rubeweed
This gave > 800 iMG. (Probably 900 iMG total but I wasn't sole contributor.)

Large Herb and Crop Gardens are now:
12 boards, 50 construction tool units (x6 energy each), 75 earth, 22 peat, 15 guano, 1 plop, 70 shovel units (x8 energy each)
    These both give 1200 iMG.

Your mood when the project completes affects your iMG bonus, I had dipped into the 80s with the first Large Herb Garden and got only 1100.

  • What skills are required to provide construction tool units, pick units and shovel units? You don't need any particular skills to make a resource using cultivation, so there's that.
Posted 7 months ago by Ginnis Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I just read in another thread that the shovel units for the old costs required Soil Appreciation IV.  Is this still true?
Posted 7 months ago by Lucille Ball Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I tested this just now with my alt, and the shovel units don't need SA IV.

  • metal rock:

2 plain crystals => 30 units of fancy pick digging
    3 krazy salts
Posted 7 months ago by Lorikeet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Lorikeet,

Wait, 2 plain crystals for Metal Rock?
    This has actually gone up!
Posted 7 months ago by Dr Evanzan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Patch
20 beans, 20 allspice, 20 tending units (x4 energy each), 30 general vapour, 30 plain bubbles, 25 watering can units (x5 energy each).
    Gives 240 iMG.

This seems to have increased resource costs slightly too (although work effort has gone down).
There also seems to be a bug(?!) where you can't do the work with the improved tools but require the regular tools.

  • For jellisacs:

    16 planks
    4 peat
    24 earth
    3 jellisacs

    20 hatchet
    30 shovel

    180 imagination at full mood

  • update for dirt piles..  now it's:

    Dirt Pile
1 pleasing amber, 10 earth, 3 loam, 20 shovel units
