API commercial access

Getting the ball rolling. The Terms of Service forbid using the API for commercial purposes without express written permission. Licensing fees may be charged. Some uses may also require a "business relationship."

IANAL. As a developer, my reading of the Terms is, "You can't charge anyone for apps, websites, services, or what-have-yous that use the Glitch API without first obtaining our permission."

Is that an accurate reading? If so, how does one go about obtaining permission?

Thanks!

  • I'd very much like some clarification on this too.

  • Ah, you ask for permission and I believe TS's contact info is pretty easy to find.

  • I did contact Tiny Speck, quite some time ago. I'm still awaiting a response.

  • Your reading is accurate-ish Hands but you've got the general intent. You're combining two elements:
    1) The commercial use provisions apply to everyone, not just API folks.
    2) You may be subject to additional fees and restrictions based on how you opt to develop the API. Intended usage of the API is through express evaluation/permission by TS.

  • Dopiaza — our apologies. I just searched for a while and couldn't find the email. So, send again (info@ts).

Hands, your reading is accurate. But that is mostly a placeholder while we figure out what we want to do. So, there isn't much of an approval process yet (indeed, we are still manually handing out keys through a forum thread, so it might be a while).
