Carrying Bags

I realize we don't want recursive inventory.

but it'd be great if you could buy some bags new, empty, and not be able to put anything in them, but able to put them in another bag.

This is for the case where I have my base inventory full (almost everyone does almost always) and still want to buy more bags for putting stuff in and maybe putting in my cabinet, or something.

Buy some empty bags and they hide in one of my base inventory bags. Empty bags, (only empty ones) can go in other bags.. Makes sense right, ever taken all the plastic bags from the grocery store and put them inside each other...?? then when you need them and use them you have to take them out.

  • I have the distinct impression that there's currently no way for the game to tell when a bag is empty.  It explains why you can't sell them, donate them, place them inside other bags... I agree that you should be able to do those things when they're empty, just wanted to explain my theory as to why it hasn't been implemented yet.

In the meantime, I drop some of my full bags in my house when I want to buy new ones.  Nothing you drop on the ground will ever disappear unless another player picks it up (or it's food outside of a bag and your pigs are really hungry).

Maybe one level of bag recursion could be a skill? "Bag Handling 1 - You've learned how to put one smaller bag inside a larger one." Something like that.

  • I think at bigger bags or more specialized bags (like the spice rack) will be a more elegant solution.

  • While we're at it, how about allowing me to see as many open bags as I want?

Is there a bag API, because I would love to be able to have an inventory management system...
