Create some potions or a Feat (or something) for resource-depletion

I followed the discussion about the resource cost of the new Potion Making 3 potions with great interest. After some thought, I supposed that the original formulations were partly selected for the purpose of depleting people's resources. If so, I think that was a great idea.

I'm continually amazed at the prodigious quantities of stuffs that players are able to amass. Once a player reaches about Level 10 - and with SDBs, of course, - it's ridiculously easy to collect massive quantities of things. (I had over 11,000 meats at one point; it was ludicrous IMO.)

But applying the example of the Extremely Rare Items, which sucked enormous quantities of currants out of people - which was a good thing -  perhaps we could think of potions that would serve the same purpose. They could require a large number of items (perhaps crops and gems as well as herbs) which would be hard to create but would confer some sort of status symbol on the player. Perhaps a crown that one would wear for an entire game day. Perhaps a golden glow that would surround one for a game day (I've got dibs on climbing the nearest tree and yelling, "I am a golden god!").

Maybe a future Feat could require people to contribute large quantities of things, which would ascend to some higher plane of existence and be lost to us. Thereupon, requiring replacement and thus, more "doing stuff".

  • The only problem with Feats requiring stuff is that they're competitive.  People are driven to even more extreme hoarding in order to win. I think part of what triggered the hoarding in the first place was the old street projects. It certainly turned me into a hoarder.  I had been selling stuff and donating to shrines for XP before I ran across a street project.

I think the big projects like icons and towers are better item sinks because they're not competitive. You're collecting for a goal rather than to hopefully have 10 more items than the Glitch next to you. Also a currant sink like the Extremely Rare Items is an indirect item sink. You have to sell stuff to amass currents.

  • I'm wondering if I didn't express my idea clearly enough. The purpose is to have methods and a reason for people to get rid of their stuff, so they don't hoard. Competitive hoarding is the opposite of what I was trying to get across.

Hardly.  If you're feeding batterflies meat, 2,000 meats is a good outing.  You could burn through 11,000 meats in no time.

  • I think I understood and the 11 icon quest was good for getting rid of hoarded stuff.  So are the towers. My construction materials are wiped out and I'm only up to 4 floors.  LOL!  I don't know about the Feats as a mechanism though. The first Feat had rankings and a "winner" for the Glitch who meditated the most minutes.  Wouldn't a stuff-centered Feat work pretty much like the old street projects, with the player who managed to hoard the most to donate winning the event?

  • I do would like to spend more stuff, to stop me from hoarding. Perhaps instead of competitive Feat (that just stressed me out!) we could more things to put in our home street, like statues etc that would symbolise status/creativity. (I did enjoy building the tower more than having the tower haha...)

Or perhaps instead of using iMG, we use our hoarded stuff instead to build the resources on the home street.

  • I like purple's idea. I think that the rewards for such a feat should be permanent objects that everyone who donates the required amount should be able to get. Also, there shouldn't be a leaderboard for this.
