+1 in forum messages

I'd like to have a +1 or "like" button in forum messages, particularly in the "Ideas" area. This way, it wouldn't be necessary to add a new message to express agreement.

I think devs could find useful to see that a lot of people like some idea, or that very few people do.

And I guess we all got used to "liking" or "+1-ing" in FB and G+.

  • Would this put it back at the top of the list? Or would it just be a sign of agreement?

  • agreement only i suppose...

  • at that point the function starts to seem more like vote, with an official tally.

i'm not sure if the devs really want to be pressured by that, and in the cases they do want pressure or whatever there will be that upcoming glitch referendum feature where subscribers will be voting.

  • Devs, check out the buttons in the forums on Ravelry. Actually their entire forum implementation is superb, but the buttons are unique and really fun...

educational, interesting, funny, agree, disagree, love

  • I think the Dev's like to hear why we like or dislike an idea, a +1 doesnt really tell them that
From what I have noticed they like us to try out ideas as often one simple idea might lead on to more/ better thought out ones or possibly what may have seemed brilliant can be shown to be a bit of an oops

So whilst its great to get support for your ideas I'm not sure it helps as much as when someone adds a carefully thought out comments.

  • Fae, I have a feeling you're on to something there.  This very suggestion was floated some months back and never went anywhere.  If we have to take the time to write a comment, then we really care, eh?

What is with you people and knitting?!

EDIT: When I moved my sister, she had like 5 f'ing huge tubs of yarn. WHY!

  • Mr. Dawgg, knitting fulfills the urge that many people have to make stuff. :)

I only suggested Ravelry because it's a great example of a social community discussion forum with flexible, useful tools. I actually wish the Rav devs would spin off their forum code as open-source and let other social communities use it.
