Please a Tree Quest

How exactly do you know if a tree is at it's highest health level?  I bought a house and planted trees so I could do the watering and petting without someone harvesting (in case that lowers the health).  So far nothing is happening. And I don't see a health level on the tree so I don't know how far the tree has to go.

I'm using wood trees (figured it be nice to get planks later).  Does that quest not work with wood trees?  Besides watering and petting, what am I missing?

  • Wood trees take a lot more effort to mature as they grow more slowly.
Eggs are the easiest to tell, in my opinion - if the plant has all the eggs visible and no empty nests, it's mature!

  • It definitely works with wood trees. I managed to complete it on a wood tree. And I've had trouble with egg plant trees, even though they had all the nests filled.

  • Looks like I'll start over one of the trees with an eggie one.

  • That's a tough one.   I mostly forgot about it, then I noticed a near dead paper tree in the ancestral lands.  I watered and petted it, it responded with "are you a tree whisperer"?  I figured it was just some more of those tree stories so I left, not wanting to waste my time in the ancestral lands and then later I remembered the quest.   Too late to retrace my steps and go back. :(

If you see a tree nearly dead and restore it to full health you are supposed to get the quest accomplished ?  I might have needed to water that tree again to finish the quest?

  • you need a dark patch to plant an egg tree

  • So maybe not water or pet one of the trees until it nearly dies.  Then water/pet, and maybe that will do it?  Will have to try that, because I can't seem to get rid of one of the trees at this point.

  • I haven't been able to complete this quest either.  I thought the quest was bugged at fist.  But apparently it just requires you to pet/water a tree when it is right at its max level.  However you can't see the tree's level to know which trees are closest.

    Great game btw thanks

  • Yes it definitely works with wood trees. I just mentioned that it takes longer for them to mature because maybe Tibbi's wood trees weren't mature yet and Tibbi was still waiting for that.

I would go for spice, fruit, bean or bubble if you can't plant an egg plant - they grow much faster.

  • I completed the quest with a wood tree, but I took forever. The wood trees have branches, that's how you know the health, but it's hard to tell, the egg and the vapor trees are easier to spot.

  • I don't know...but....there is tree poison and tree poison antidote that you can buy.   They may or may not work for nearly killing and rescuing the tree to complete the quest.

  • There's a very thorough discussion of wood tree growing here.  The link is a little wonky - after clicking it scroll up to the top of the page before starting to read.  It shows a picture of a fully grown wood tree - two trunk parts and 4 branches.  If it has 4 branches it's mature - otherwise not.

A lot of things in Glitch are not totally clear (makes you play around and experiment more), but I always thought that to complete this quest you had to start with a brand-new just planted tree, so easiest if you own a home and have your own patch to plant a bean in.

  • I did it with a bubble tree it was quick and easy. With any tree try using fertilidust - it will mature in no time!

  • This is the most frustrating quest & i'm unable to complete it after a few game-days of trying. I have a spice, bubble, gas, and wood tree in my back yard. I've used an entire jar of full strength fertilidust, plus some lite, on each of them, plus petted/watered each a dozen times... still haven't been able to complete this quest. Do I need to poison one and regrow? Any advice?

  • I completed this quest with a bean tree that was tiny and quite sickly looking when I stumbled upon it. I just watered and pet, like I do with every other single tree I passed. It did take going through several hundred trees though and even other small ones that looked sickly or new, it didn't work with them. So who knows... it is probably just luck.

  • I have the same problem as MrMatt and have reported a bug. I've planted a fruit tree and it is fully grown, but the quest remains active.
