Test notes: 31 August

C'mon in- we're up and testing! We'll be open til Noon, Vancouver/San Francisco time on Saturday for your playing pleasure!

Update after game open: Some of you are asking about Butterflies in your home property not being there. They have life spans now- and milking them at home when you are away will deduct from their spans. (We introduced this 2 tests ago.)

We've done lots of bug fixing in the background since the close of last test, but were are some of the player-facing things you'll see:

• Music block rewards are spread out with a bit more randomness, so it may be more difficult to assemble a collection from the same activity.

• There are some actions that now give you rewards which did not before: Jellisac Scooping, Barnacle Scraping, Paper Tree petting and watering.

• Random drop rewards for many actions give a bigger variety of items/bonuses.

• Some base costs of a few kitchen tools was bumped up slightly (only by 25 currants).

• Rewards for chicken squeezing, tree petting and harvesting has been reduced a bit at higher skill levels related to that action.

• Do you have a few of the more common trophy pieces you don't need, but desire more elements in your elemental pouch? You can now 'smash' it from the verb menu and the elements will be YOURS — and none of them will be red ;)

Also, please note, Safari users on OS X, you may see some issues with keyboard control in the game due to a new Flash release from Adobe. This effects people using the 5.1 version of the Safari browser with the 10.3.183.7-DEBUG version of Flash, and we generate a warning for you. You can check what version you have here. Adobe tells us that a fix is coming soon, but until then, you may want to use Chrome or Firefox.

Have fun!

  • Well, it would be nice if the game loaded. It griped about manually updating the debug version, which I did and now the green loading bar doesn't complete before the "Oops and error occurred, what were you doing prompt"

  • I am using Fire Fox and also got the grumble grumble you need to upgrade (using debug) but I have chosen to come here for advice before doing anything and seeing FF's problem I am glad I did.

    Advice please?

  • This is a copy/paste of the message I get...
Grumble Grumble! A version of Flash was released with a bug that causes text to render illegibly. The update was automatic and it turns out that you, dear player, have the new version with the bug. Luckily there's a new version of Flash out that fixes this issue. To have the best possible experience, you should update to the latest version. Continue, at my own risk Having a problem? Need help? Tell us about it.

  • Ooh, smashing those worthless trophy pieces :)  I'm tickled!

  • Fokian -- are you still seeing this problem?  As I see you are in game, I'm going to assume it's resolved.

The Grumble Grumble message that players who are not on Safari 5.1 see is to get them to upgrade to the latest version of Flash which fixed the text issues we were seeing two tests ago.  We've tested it quite a bit internally and it should not break anything. So, Enola Llataton, you should feel comfortable trying it.

Of course -- if it does -- we want to know about it!
Posted 16 months ago by kakul Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I had to go to Firefox, @kakul. But it's been resolved. Several people had the same problem. I'm about to try it on Internet explorer soon as well as under Flash LNX 11.0.xx

  • Anybody know when the test is ending? I'm literally traumatized from the forums and having difficulty looking through them.

  • Cerulean- You're literally traumatized? From the forums? Why? And the very first sentence says:

  • Glad I came back and saw your post kakul.  Gonna go ahead and upgrade my Flash program which has been giving me annoying messages since last nite!  Thank you so much for the info.

  • Just wondering if I am supposed to be seeing big white blocks and inverted tiles (or misshapen or ill fitting background?
Posted 16 months ago by Ahamkara Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I can't log on due to the issue with Flash. I'm getting the same update error even though I've installed Flashes latest version. How did other people get around this issue?

  • The game is being very laggy, and I don't think it's my internet - just thought you should know!
Posted 16 months ago by Niara Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I managed to get in game by switching to IE from Firefox. I had to click past the Flash warning on IE. Now when I try to log in via Firefox the flash warning has no option to ignore. Very Strange.

  • Woo hoo rewards for Jelly scooping and Barney scraping...look forward to trying that out!

Great idea for something to do with those trophy pieces...and I love more randomness...I think...we'll see...

Diving in now!  Thanks for the updates!

  • I had to switch from the debug version of Flash to the regular version to get the grumble message to go away in Chrome. Chrome crashed so many times I tried Firefox, and that is still giving me the grumble message even though I definitely have the new version of Flash and I never installed the debug version of Flash on Firefox.

By the way, saying that I want to continue on at my own risk allows me to log onto the game just fine in Firefox: and I'm not seeing any sort of font problems.

  • I am getting the same range of white blocks as Ahamkara. Missing chunks of scenery.

Edit - have seen bug thread. Will post on that.

  • Not a fan  of the wider variety of bonuses... one off items just clutter up my inventory, which is already a nightmare to even try to keep tidy. (for me, at least!)
Posted 16 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks kakul, I was clicking the "continue at own risk" option and having no problems but was having to click it each time to get into the game.  I have now upgraded as requested but when I went to test what version I am using it is no longer the debug version which you guys have said you want us to use so what should I do about that?
Posted 16 months ago by Reni's Mum Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I got the "Grumble, Grumble" in Chrome. Updated the Flash debug version, no problem playing the game.

  • Hmmm, scooped over 25 jellies with no drops...I did add some rubeweed and got one jar of Whortleberry Jelly...but nothing else. Wonder if I'm holding my tongue the wrong way when I do this...seems like I've lost Barny drops altogether...

  • Same problem as others, in Chrome (Win7 64 bit) if I launch the game I get somewhere around 50% to 95% of the green loading bar done, then crashes. If I use IE it loads OK, but I don't use IE. I guess for Glitch I can make an exception for now.

  • Chrome on Windows coupled with Flash 10.3.183 should allow bug reporting, even though we put up the interstitial.

    • If you get in and find you cannot report a bug, let us know (try reloading first)
    • If you are not given the option to continue into the game, let us know

If you have trouble loading the game, try a second browser.

  • I tried it on both IE9 and Chrome and still can't get in. I added a post to the Bugs forum.

Update: It was a problem with my wireless router. I rebooted it and all is well.
Posted 16 months ago by BarryW Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Odd. After @kevbob reported the bug with Chrome and Flash 10.3.183 (debugger) was fixed I was able to get on that way. I DID dl the IE and Netscape Flash versions.

  • I'm really enjoying the new variety in bonus items, but DANG does it make inventory management a pain! It was so much easier (but less fun) when I just ended up with stacks of messy fry-ups, mild sauces, and cheezy sammiches to give away ;)
Posted 16 months ago by Sheepy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I really like the new bonus items as well.  Novelty is nice.  (Sheepy, have you considered just eating them?
Posted 16 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • EAT my free food, WindBorn? What a silly idea.

(That's actually what I've been doing, it just means breaking my habit of only eating when my  tank is at least a quarter empty.)

  • "Rewards for chicken squeezing, tree petting and harvesting has been reduced a bit at higher skill levels related to that action."

Can someone please explain this one. Why would I want to increase skills for a reduced reward? I'm fairly low level right now, but what's my motivation to improve my skills?
Posted 16 months ago by Kungaloosh Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Kungaloosh - This doesn't means that with a higher skill you'll have less rewards than with a lower skill. Just means that the amount that a better skill improves your rewards is now less than what it was in previous tests...

  • Myles had more than one mystery toy this test :)

  • @Nutmeg -- yes, quite literally. As a psychotherapist, I easily recognize the symptoms. The whole issue with the estrogen thread put me in such an anxious state that I felt it for about a week, afterwards. The muscle tension, the increased heart rate, the poor mood, the fact that I had to debrief about it with my supervisor and coworkers... my initial fight-or-flight response was an awful experience. Then there was the whole issue with "Deadpan Dike," and by that point I was so emotionally shut down that I removed myself from the thread and found myself feeling anxious at the thought of even looking at the forums. Though my trauma isn't excessive by any means (meaning, I'm nowhere near PTSD-level), it has been quite significant and falls on the spectrum (of trauma), albeit the lower end.

And whoops! I did miss that little bit of information. I think I missed it because I was scanning the text for "numbers," as opposed to quantifiers like "noon" and "Saturday."

  • Larky, I got one of those too.

Caveat:  Once you put the fortune in it, Don't Look!!! Just give it away.

  • Music block awards are *really* spread out.  Nice job of more food and fewer blocks, although I kinda miss them.

  • I really should read the forums more frequently though. I might actually know what to expect. Go figure.

I have noticed that my butterflies are disappearing, but attributed that to my not feeding them. It's nice to know that they die of natural causes, instead of my killing them.  ;D

I've noticed the Musicblock thing, although the problem that I'm having is not 'not' getting them so much as getting 15 (exaggeration) of the same one and not being able to hunt down the one I actually need. I find that I'm enjoying this challenge. It's boring when you don't have to work for something. Oh crap!! Now I sound like my dad... "It's always more gratifying when you actually earn something, Marie. Look at your mother and I... We have everything we've ever wanted and it will all be yours someday..."

    ....... ugh!  :D

I'm bummed out that I had to work today and missed the EOTW parties. I was just exiting the subway when I got the server reboot message. Yuk!   Next time, I'm calling in sick.  :P

I really like the new items in wardrobe. Fun stuff in there! I just posted in live feed that with the new stuff, my avi sort of looks like Victoria Beckham. Of course, there have been moments when I've felt like I was dressed by Judas Priest too.  lol

I have noticed the bonuses from scooping and petting and... okay, that just sounds WRONG! lol    Let us begin again...  I have noticed the bonuses from scooping jellasic and petting paper trees. The different food that pops outta nowhere is very much appreciated along with the other goodies that I've gotten. If the worst thing that happens from this is a messy inventory - I say, "Bring it on!!"  I feel this is a relatively small price to pay.

All in all this was a really fun test. I did have one problem with PoS not being able to see me on live feed, but that's in a totally different thread. Sooooo, I'm off to see the Wizard. Or, at the very least, to find that thread.   =)
