Now what?

Am I the only one on here that feels there's not enough quests?

I'm sitting here waiting for my Mining V skill to finish and the only thing I have left to do is the much maligned "give 5 things to a level 1 n00b" quest. Otherwise, I can mine rocks and make sandwiches...but my GOD it's boring.

Perhaps I'm more goal-oriented than is necessary for this game...but I can't help feeling that there should be *something else* to do!

Am I the only one?

  • Well, you can look at badges as a quest-- then there are hundreds--- basically a quest--- Do this-- do that to acomplish this equals never ending quests! :D i hope that helps a bit---

  • Eh...the problem with that is that there ARE hundreds of them. What does one focus on first?

All I'm saying is what will there be to do when you exhaust those? I don't play that often, even with a test going on and I'm hitting the proverbial wall. I was just curious as to what the devs have planned...

  • Lesse... if the dev's don't give us new skills, I'll finish learning the skill table in ~28 days. My money is on new skills in the next 2-3 weeks. On the way there, there's still a trophy I want to get (one of the music block collectors).

As for the badges, I'd start with the refining and mining ones, then move on to the cooking ones. That should keep you busy for a test or two... then it just depends on the remaining skills what you want to go do. One of the joys of Glitch is free-form play and the ability to set your own schedule.

  • They are adding more and more. My understanding is a lot the last few tests were about getting the site stable. Large influx of new member, they just wanted to see if they could handle it without too much lag. (And it's been pretty good.) I think we'll see more and more "stuff" added.
But, yes, at some point, you will run out of stuff to "officially" do. No game is endless.

  • Focus is easy, pick a badge and go for it.  Quests are supposed to get beginners to dabble in everything to inspire them towards self-directed goals whether that be cooking sales, mining their way to riches, collecting items for projects, socializing, philanthropy,...

  • Why do other people have to set goals for you?  Given the hundreds of options available in the game, can't you imagine something you'd like to achieve and begin working toward that goal?
Posted 20 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • This game is mature enough that everything isn't laid out for you - it's your own world, and you are the other players cultivate it how you want to. That's why you choose your own goals, your own path, etc.

  • Actually I am in complete agreement with blogkitten and it follows a similar discussion that was had in game a couple of days ago.  I personally feel there need to be more quests within the final game and more skills.   I suspect there will be in the final cut of the game but this is testing after all.....

Whilst I accept the comment that given the number of options and variables during the game - there is nothing quite like completing a task laid down within the game by the developers or others.  Personal goals are fine but I for one get a greater buzz when the Rock pops up telling me I've completed something.  If the game launches with a number of quests that are finished within a month or two of playing leaving the player having to set their own goals then i believe people will vote with their feet and leave.  IMHO.

  • One ongoing option is to assist with street building projects, either by contributing directly or by collecting/creating items needed and auctioning them.  Another would be to set a leaderboard goal for yourself, perhaps to gain the most favor with a particular giant, or to visit the most streets.  The Achievements goal has already been mentioned, and that is certainly one with a wide variety of options.

  • Other players have set personal goals for themselves:

  • Blogkitten, I agree... I enjoy the quests, and now that I've run out of them, I either work on street projects or socialize.  I'm also a greeter, which takes up a fair amount of time, but I do feel a bit aimless now.  I'm glad that recent tests have included lots of projects, but with the requirements so basic, they're not terribly exciting.  I wish there were more opportunities to race, or more quests which are not directly tied to skills, or perhaps more than one quest per skill.  I've also learned a couple of skills for which there don't seem to be any quests (yet?), which is always disappointing to me.  I know that we can make up our own quests, and I often do, but the game-directed part of playing feels far too short.

  • Agreed with @glum pudding and @blogkitten. FWIW, stoot has said that the next few iterations and improvements would be focussed on game mechanics and gameplay, as opposed to technical improvements. So perhaps fixes are on their way.

  • glum - im forming an idea of a big race in an "around the glitch world in 80sh days" style.  its a work in progress but with some helpers it could be fun in a quest type way

  • glum's a greeter?  *envy*

  • Bob Apple - I was thinking of something similar. Check points in far off corners where you have to talk to a Glitch to receive a note. You can can do the checkpoints in any order. Anywhozits, if you you need help or whatever, I'm game.

  • Nanookie, aren't you?! I thought I recommended you in the group.

  • greeter envy is felt my many.. *sniff sniff*  especially those of us who will never be able to catch up in the leader boards because of it  (this is all in jest by the way... geesh people! LOL)

  • Hey, hey....I'm, like, #400 on all the leaderboards, but I'm still a greeter :)
Posted 20 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • no no Cupcake... what I mean is... as a greeter you are able to go to extra locations that non greeters can go (like other start areas)... :p
Posted 20 months ago by RainyRain Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Can you follow a greeter?

  • Do start locations count on the leaderboard?
Posted 20 months ago by Tingly Claus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • yup they do... as do every block in housing... not actual homes though from what i can tell.... I am missing about 7 locations though.. and i SWEAR i've been everywhere! :)  lol

  • Mining V ?!
Posted 20 months ago by Bibiri Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Actual homes don't count? I thought that was why I was so far off the leaders. Must be new housing units I've missed or something.
Posted 20 months ago by clare Subscriber! | Permalink
  • well... i'm not 100% sure to be honest... it may explain the mysterious few i'm missing....

I have been in 3 peoples homes.. other than my own... so that will help with total block counts i think... but like i said.. i went a little loopy last test trying to figure out what areas I was missing (hehe rascalmom can attest to that!)

I have for certain been to every common street and "seam" street.  & I went through all of Meadow's housing a 2nd time... bah.. but i still don't know what I missed (other than the meadows start, and heights start)
Posted 20 months ago by RainyRain Subscriber! | Permalink
  • RainyRain... those start locations don't count for the leaderboard. Greeters aren't getting anything extra, and it actually makes catching the Greeters on the leaderboard easier... the Greeters are donating their time, which is time not spent earning xp.
Posted 20 months ago by Travinara Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Are you positive about that that Trav?  (i'm only talking about travelers in this case)  'Cause now that's 2 MORE locations that will drive me crazy!?!?! lol :p
Posted 20 months ago by RainyRain Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, the only big spiffs greeters get is the hilarious reaction when new players find out that there's actual humans behind the characters in the start areas. It is quite a hoot!

I can't see this game ever really stopping in growth, especially the way the Tiny Speck team has designed the mechanics of it. Can you imagine how many more streets/projects/quests/achievements/skills there will be when they actually fill out their staffing? Remember that they are still on their core (skeleton crew) team and that this is merely the beginning. Remember when the meadows didn't even have flowers or decorations? I have a feeling that is going to be the way we feel about the whole game by launch time!

  • And even if the start locations DID count, we greeters really wouldn't have much of an advantage, because there's only 3 of them.
Posted 20 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Positive Rainy... it's not the start locations you're missing. Personal homes aren't in the leaderboard count either.
Posted 20 months ago by Travinara Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Trav  Ok  ok.. *deep breathe*  the goal IS attainable... I Will find the missing spots...
again.....   OH.. but the "back alley" is a spot right?  and I won't be able to get there until reset.

  • Is there a FULL list of locations out there anywhere? If not, we should
    compile one.
Posted 20 months ago by Lord Tweedmouth Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not really Lord Tweedmouth... the Wiki has most streets, but you can't check if you've been to them or not & they haven't quite caught up with the new housing yet.

  • Maybe if we could compile a list (with links), I could whip up a Greasemonkey script to add the streets to the official locations list, and mark them as visited or not.  Any takers?
Posted 20 months ago by Lord Tweedmouth Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't think the start streets count, especially since there can be multiple instances of the same street... it could get messy.  The greeting experience is sometimes fun, but at this point, it's a bit buggy.  I'm sure more greeters will be added when the kinks are worked out.
