Yeah, I get how unlearning works, it just 'seems' counter-intuitive to have to learn skills in order to unlearn other skills because you'd learnt too many skills...
To clarify, you would NOT be able to unlearn the lower level skills while retaining the higher level version (e.g., you could not unlearn Animal Kinship I, II, III, IV and V, but keep AK VI).Posted 37 days ago by stoot barfield| Permalink
I'd rather keep the skills, and work to gain Giant's favor and apply the favs to speeding up the learning process...Have no idea which is quicker, but the idea of "unlearning" a skil seems too counter-intuitive.
We'll know the details when they are explained to us. :) My inclination is to keep skills too, MeherMan, but since a reset is coming, and since we're testing, we should probably test the unlearning process anyway.
I am sure it will all be clarified but I assume that Unlearning is (1) quick if not instant and (2) does not ADD to the count of skills as far as the compounded % increase.
Right now it seems a bit of a "meh" skill. But in the future when there are many more skills it will become more important.
I have read the past postings on the skill tree, learning penalty and now the unlearning skills. A question I have is that if I am looking at being in the Glitch universe for a long time, why do I really care how long it takes to learn all of the skills?
Wouldn't a possible future "Leaderboards" listing be something that tracks the number of skills you have - maybe even adding a new dimension to the game that comes with longevity and skills ? This would take the ever increasing knowledge one gains from learning all of the skill tree to a new level. In fact, one might be able to become a "Yoda" of Glitch??
I'm with you, Shadowy Time:) I hate to think I might have to unlearn things. But who knows what they have planned...a cap? Or some other way where we are rewarded for specializing? Hmmmmm. In any case, my rock isn't learning right now, and I only had one skill left until they opened up the tree....open sesame, Glitch:)
There was a dev post SOMEWHERE about unlearning being there for options. That as the skill tree grows, they want players to feel they have the ability to craft things how they want. If they want to just take thew time to learn every skill, great! It will take time but that is an option. But if someone wants to specialize, that is also an option. Unlearning makes that much easier and let's folks get to what they want quicker. (And to change things up later if they wish.)
I am definitely in the jack-of-all-trades camp. In no rush so Unlearning doesn't have much of a draw for me.
I'm with you Bacon -- I like learning all skills. When I first heard about the learning time penalty I uttered an 'oh crap!' I have been suffering though the time penalty through the beta, but it's enough to make me hold off on signing up for a subscription while I consider whether it's enough of an encumbrance to drain all of the joy from the game.
