Subscriptions, Which would/did you get and why?

Okay, so I know I want to get a subscription in Thank You to TS for this awesome game. Now, for my wallet's sake I'd first jump to Tin level. But I know I've got my eye on some of the clothes that I won't have enough credits for a complete outfit without purchasing more credits on top of the subscription.

And this is where my fellow Glitchen come in. What makes you look at one subscription over the other? I can't afford Molybdenum. Sad but true. I COULD go copper, but then I'd probably have credits going to waste. But if I'm going to have to buy credits anyway, why wouldn't I just buy the credits and say "Forget the subscription"?

Thoughts? I really do want to hear your reasoning even if its "I wouldn't buy anything. You can play for free!" or "Wait till you can afford Molybdenum, it's amaze-balls!"

  • I really want a Molybdemun subscription - mostly because I think Glitch is worth way more than $7.50/month. I love being a part of the community and I'd really like to support TS. But I'm the stereotypical broke college student - $90 is a huge chunk of change to spend all at once. Even now, I'm eyeing the Copper subscription saying to myself, "Hey another week or two of ramen won't kill you..." (even though I think it slowly is.) I don't mean this as a complaint, but I would love if the beta discounts included a payment plan option - I could live with four $15 payments for a Molybdemun subscription and a month-to-month discounted option for beta testers would have been even nicer. Now I'm considering spending my textbook money on a Glitch subscription instead of my books... Le sigh...

TL;DR: I wish there were discounted subscriptions for college students - as a "reward" for our commitment to learning, obviously :)

  • It seems to me that Glitch is full of deserving people who are disabled, unemployed, or in other financial straits.  Making subscriptions 1/2 price and allowing people to accumulate months of credits, votes, and teleport tokens is pretty generous.

I appreciate the financial windfall TS has already made available to beta testers.  And I'm already putting aside a bit each month so that next year I can afford to re-subscribe even without a scholarship from TS.

  • I bought the copper because I believe that soon we will be able to customize our homes with credits, and I want to accumulate some.  I can dress myself well enough just from the free stuff (there is an awful lot of free stuff to wear - not a lot of incentive to subscribe or get credits).  I don't care about teleporting, I like to harvest as I go.

  • Slightly different note, but does anyone know exactly when the discounted subscriptions will stop being offered?

  • Gitchy

According to the email we received last week, Tuesday (ish) would be the last day.

  • Thanks WindBorn :)

And to clarify what I said above - TS has definitely been very generous. It's hardly the devs fault that so many of us are on tight budgets. A multiple-payment plan for a discounted subscription was just wishful thinking - logically, it makes perfect sense to  me why the system is set up the way it is.

I also recently started using a literal piggybank so that big recreational expenses, like a subscription, won't hurt as much. Bills and budgeting are some of the ugly realities of growing up.

  • I thought I would bump this since there is about 49 minutes left in which to take advantage of the beta pricing.
