What do you feed Batterfly's?

I haven't been able to find a comprehensive list of what to feed Batterfly's and what the resulting poop pile size will be!  I know the basics (3 meats, 20 grains etc.) but these darn cave flappers seem to be able to digest a wide variety of items.

For me, one of the easiest things to feed them is Bubbles.  10 plain Bubbles will get me one plop, and I have no problem getting hundreds of Bubbles just walking around the area.

Does anyone else have different things they feed the Batterfly's and know how many guanos the items generate?

  • I have found that feeding spices works as well; since we can't go in game right now I'm trying to remember, I believe I fed tumeric and found that for every 5 fed you get 2 plops; if you feed 10 tumeric you get 3, so feeding 5 works better. It's fairly easy to gather allspice and grind and since I have the spice rack it doesn't take up too much room in my bags either. I have also used meat and eggs, haven't tried bubbles yet.

  • Now that it is more important, this guano thread from the FAQ Group might be handy for all.

  • Hey Gizmo (hope you don't mind me shortening your name!), interesting 5 is two and 10 is three!  I'll do some testing on the bubbles next test to see if there is any optimizing I can do.

  • Thanks JW, the thread shows that 8 bubbles will give a plop, I've been giving away 2 bubbles per poop!

  • Well it is 69 days old. :) I don't know many details as I stick to 10 meats to get 3 guano. This and the 20 eggs for 3 are all I ever use.
I think the energy info is what is important. Someone else posted about this recently. I will go hunting for the calculations.

  • Hi  I found 10 eggs give 2 guano and 10 fried eggs give 3 guano  :)

  • You all might want to create a thread in the FAQ group or drop a note in the REPLY here thread for any updates that are discovered. That way the FAQ posts can be updated properly. Thanks:)

  • Someone else turned me onto old(er) spice, works pretty well in my experience.

  • It seems its changed for meat at least. It used to be 3 meat gave 1 guano, but I found last test it was 2 meat for 1 guano, although still 10 meat to get 3 guano! Looking forward to when we can choose the #. Good idea to make an updated list we can all add to. I've not tried spices, will do next test.

  • The wiki simply states a bunch of stuff that was tried. Definitely not the most efficient amounts.
I contend the energy amounts stated in the FAQ, specifically, "The amount of guano a Batterfly will release is determined by how much of what you feed them. Giving them food with a total energy between
    15 and 50 = 1 guano
    51 and 99 = 2 guano
    100+ = 3 guano
    "
    are still correct.

I'm not part of the FAQ Group btw. I just remembered the post from an earlier time when I was.

I'm too lazy to try feeding 2 or more different items, but I guess it works.  http://beta.glitch.com/forum/general/4954/#reply-43814

  • I have a list of energy from most of the basic foods & spices, but if someone has a list of energy from herbs, and other items which would really seem non-edible (planks, bubbles, gasses etc.) I'd be happy to build a spreadsheet that could be a reference for what to feed them to maximize yield.  Of course it would be an excel spreadsheet as that's pretty much the high end of my computer skills : ) I don't have the technical knowhow to pull the information from the game itself.

If anyone has already built a spreadsheet or tool for something like this It would wonderful to get a copy!  This would also be a great tool to drop onto the FAQ group site/Glitch Wiki

  • So what am I missing here?

Seems like you get more guano if you fed the batterfly only enough for 15 energy (or so) at time.  The equivalent to get over 100 would be 7 individual feedings (at 105 energy). So 7 guano vice the convenience of feeding at once to get 3 guano seems like a no-brainer to me.   I've not bothered with them much, so I'm sure I'm missing something here (like after you feed it once, you have to then feed it up to 51 energy to get the second anyway), by just looking at the chart that JW posted.

To me, it would make more sense to feed 7 separate servings even if it took longer, than feeding all at once. Especially using the team strategy to keep the batterfly in place, doesn't seem like it would take that long...

  • b3achy, you know how lazy I am and that meat grows on trees. Well, eggs do anyway. ;)

  • Simplest one, IMHO, is planks.  10 planks gives 2 plops. You can farm eggs too, (2 for 10 eggs)... it's a matter of what your skills are.  At higher levels, it's easier to get large amounts of planks by using fertildust to get a few fully grown wood trees and topping them.

  • b3achy - not to argue against one at a time feedings at 15 e each, since that is clearly the most energy efficient way to get your guanos back, but when an activity takes three times as long, you want to start thinking about opportunity costs.

could the additional time spent spoon feeding batterflies be better spent mining, or doing some other profitable game activity? could the additional time be spent doing fun things in the game? could the additional time be spent somewhere other than glitch?

time should always be factored in as a significant cost. it may be difficult to figure out exactly what that cost is, but there certainly is one - even from a pure 'currants and energy' perspective.
