Achievement Status

Is there any way to know our Achievement Status? For example, I'm trying to get the beanorator badges. Is there any way to know how many more beans I need to make before I get the achievement? I don't like blindly attempting to get achievements, I'd really like to know exactly how many more beans, for example. :)

  • No, the developers want it to be a surprise when you get an achievement, so there isn't any way to see how close you are on the game site. You'd have to keep track for yourself, by marking a note beside the computer every time you do an act that counts toward the achievement or something like that.

  • Wonder if there's an addon that keeps track for you or shows your % of how close you are.

  • I would kill (with Wine of the Dead, of course) for a feature that would allow me to track achievement progress either in game, or on a 3rd party website with API access.

  • I don't think it's intentional to keep people in the dark about progress. After all, it's really easy to find out how many iMG to next level. It's more that they just haven't put this much-requested feature in.

And it can't be done with an add-on either, because the info isn't available to the API.

In fact, TS seems to be encouraging progression, my butler just said:
"Beeker (Janitch)  Goodness Gracious, madamsir! Have you noticed that you're only about 117,000 iMG away from Level 60?!? Oh to be the butler of a Level 60 Glitch! I will be the toast of the buttling community! I cannot wait!"

So maybe the butler will start saying things like. "I notice that you are very close to having completed Achievement X".

  • I think TS has said that they don't prefer precise progress meters because it ends up making tasks grindy and monotonous. Seems like I read that they're going to introduce more general notifications on badge progress, kind of a, "You're almost there, kid" type of system, similar to Janitch's butler message. (I could be totally wrong about that, though.)

  • I think TS said they'd add the information to the API at one point, but it was probably a "soon" type of deal.

But I'd definitely like to see this, so I'll add my +1, once more.

  • This is one of the most requested types of information, and since people are grinding for badges anyway, it would make a lot of sense to add progress indicators.  If they were on their own page, we wouldn't have to look at them, so those of us who like surprises would be happy, too.

  • When I started on the more extensive badges, I found myself wondering : «Heck I have done so many Super Jumps, how come I haven't got the badge yet?» or  «I rode the Subway train soooo many times, but still no badge:(»

So I started counting my own status on each achievement by making a spreadsheet of my badge requirements. Lets take the Beanorator badge: To keep track of the status, I would start the count with the latest badge I got. Lets say you already got the first badge for 53 seasoned beans and I know that my next badge count is 503. I would  add 53  to each seasoned beans I make from then on till I reach 503 then I would replace the 53 with the 503 and add the seasoned beans needed to reach the next badge count which is 2003.

It seems like a lot of work and I thought so too at first but trust me once your spreadsheet is set up it is worth it. I no longer have to wonder where I am on my badge's  status. You think 2003 seasoned beans is hard, imagine 10009 snails. But I did it and it made it much easier for me to work on different badges at the same time.
Hopefully you will get the link of example of spreadsheet:

  • I think the only one you get an idea about is the train ride ones because you are told how many times you have been in the sub station and how many times you have ridden.  Keep in mind that the count was off and probably still is but it is not too far off in most cases and might be dead on in some.

  • I know I've read a longer dev post about it at some time, but I couldn't find it. Basically, it was not possible at one point, though they had plans to make it possible. At any rate, here are the couple of posts I did find:

Stoot post that shows they are not against us seeing our progress on our achievements eventually: www.glitch.com/forum/ideas/...

TomC post in which he quotes stoot from a Q&A session about such a thing: www.glitch.com/forum/genera...

  • I swear I had a link that did but my brain makes up stories sometimes so it may be incorrect.
I wish there was.  I thought there was, and now I can't find it.

  • +1 for what glum pudding wrote. I definitely would love a progress thing since..well, to be frank, I have nothing to do in the game anymore other than do random img things to level up (since I've had no new quests for a bit now :/) and knowing I was getting somewhere with my achievements makes a huge difference.

  • Thursday Soleil -- there was a "what badges do other people have" site, that suggested what you might try for next, but there has never been % complete for a single badge.

LMG posted links to the best info we have so far.
