Display items wanted in trade

While the ability to trade with players is interesting, it suffers from the problem that it is hard to know what any one player is looking for.

It would be cool if there was a little thought bubble or something similar floating over a character who's looking for particular items.  For example, if I'm out of Green Elements, I could have a thought bubble with the Green Element picture above me, and any player with excessive Green Element would know to offer a trade.

  • As long as the picture doesn't hang over your head all the time- it'd kind of get in the way, I'd think. Perhaps there could be a menu available near the bag-slots to allow you to see/change what you're advertising for trade (without having to look at that bubble all the time), and the ability to turn it off.

  • I think it'd be easier to chat with the other person to see what they want, rather than sorting through bags and bags of stuff. I tend to fill up my inventory quite a bit :p There's a button in the trading UI for that purpose (of chatting) that reads 'Open chat' or something similar.

  • I think what he's talking about (correct me if I'm wrong) is an already-visible bubble above the player that shows what they're looking for/looking to trade. The longer I think about it, though, the more I think a vendor menu would be easier and take up less room on-screen.

  • Oh, I see. I still think chat would be easier :p

  • Fair enough.

  • I think Djarbrill is on the same track as I.  Basically, the problem is that up front, it's hard to know if someone has the right item for offer.

It might work well if when someone enters a street, the announcement added a little tagline in chat.  For example, "Millie arrived, and wants to trade for cheese."  That would save the trouble of retyping the same request in chat repeatedly.

  • I like the idea of an announcment on arrival.

Simplest thing is to just allow a glitch to add a short text status line to their arrival and departure

"Fred has arrived and is feeling excellent today"
"Fred leaves, trailing sparkly stars behind"

"Jim arrives, and has eggses for sale. Getcher yummy eggses"
    "Jim leaves, reluctantly."

    etc...
