Whimsical Wednesday - Houses Release 3

The game is now open! Check the new thread for feedback: http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/20792/

------

The game is currently closed until sometime Thursday morning, Pacific time. The conversion process is running slower than anticipated, and we want to make everything goes just right, so we will not be open until we are ready.

------

Good morning campers!

Today brings release 3 of the new housing system, marking a full reset of houses.

The game will be closed for a few hours while we perform the reset
.

Do not be alarmed! Only houses are being reset.

After the reset is complete, your house will have been reset to the starter size, with no cultivated items and no furniture. Any upgraded furniture in your house or your furniture bag will be removed. You'll be given a small set of starter furniture in its place.

When you enter your new house after the reset, any items that you had in your old house or your testing house will have been moved into your new residence. Just unpack your moving boxes to get started.

A single moving box will contain multiple boxes for the old house, your test-house home street, test-house backyard and each floor of your test-house.

So that's what the reset entails, but what about new stuff? Well...

Furniture can now be crafted by players. Get building!

‌• Your new houses will now have their own web page, linked from your profile. You'll be able to easily visit other people's home streets from there (as well as from their "info pane" in the game client).

Once you've chosen/purchased a furniture upgrade, that choice is 'sticky'. If you upgrade a chair to style A, then switch it to style B, you'll later be able to switch back to style A at no cost. The same applies to your house chassis.

The initial furniture we give you is soul-bound. This means you can't give it away to other players. Other items may gain this property in the future.

Furniture can now be traded - either by using the 'give' verb, dragging it to another player or using the player-to-player trading system. You'll get an extra warning when you try to trade upgraded furniture. Auctions for furniture will be added in the near future.

Furniture should no longer drop through the floor when you're placing it on your 2nd floor. Or your 3rd - houses can now be 3 floors tall.

All street styles now have music.

Furniture items all have their own web pages, as do the upgrades. You can browse and bookmark your perfect setup while you're waiting for the reset.

The furniture bag is now sorted, to make finding your furniture easier. And it'll now be accessible anywhere in the world, to allow your to trade your items.

The old houses are fading away. Visit the abandoned apartment blocks to reminisce.

There's probably some more stuff hidden in there too, so take a look around, kick the tires and lets us know what you think.

update #1: The housing FAQ has been updated.

update #2: The reset is taking longer than expected - the game will be closed until Thursday morning, pacific time. We are being EXTRA careful with the migration since no-one wants the movers to lose a single precious item.

  • This is fabulous.  I love the free furniture til I figure out what I want and thank you so so much for a full refund on my house, that was truly unexpected..I was setting my sights on 80 percent.  You guys have really touched all the bases.  Now to test it so you guys can go live!

Edited to add a silly question:  I was gonna try and lower my amount of boards in my single item wall cabinet.  I think it has about 4,766 boards..will that came across?  My bad.

  • Can we keep the moving boxes after we've emptied them? Are they like the gift boxes and can be taken apart for paper? Just curious. If we can keep them, they might look right at home in an "attic".

  • "How are we being reimbursed for our old houses?" - currants (the amount you paid originally)

  • so, can we get bigger images on that furniture overview pages in the encyclopedia. Not the one with 5 items and a big arrow, the other one. So I can actually see them? That'd be awesometastic! :D

  • @  Foo Pananafaff

You will lose any crops that were not harvested.  If you had harvested them, they will be in your moving boxes.  Seeds and growing plants will also disappear.

  • Furniture and third floors, bah. Who cares about all that. What I want to know about is the moving boxes. Did you say moving boxes, plural? Does that mean we get more than one? Do we get to keep them? Oh, I can't wait to play with the moving boxes.

  • What about my crops that are ready for picking in both old and new houses. Have I lost my crops ?

  • Oh the thing that excites me the most is the sticky furniture. I am prone to fancy flights of whimsy and would want to change my interior all the time. Glad to know for certain that once we've purchased something it's ours forever.

Yes, if they were not harvested, they disappeared.

  • Absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much everyone at TS for constantly enhancing gameplay for all us Glitches. Next time someone puts together a course on Ludology, Glitch better be a key chapter or 9 :D

TS, your commitment to constant innovation and actually partnering with your player base is so refreshing. I will do all I can to make this game more well known then WoW, GW2, Tera, SWTOR and the upcoming Oblivion MMO combined starting with getting all my friends and family to enter this world with me.

Thank you once again to the entire Tiny Speck team :D

  • I do not understand what it means that plain furniture is "soulbound." We can craft plain furniture right? So can we sell the plain furniture we've crafted?

EDIT - Thanks to WindBorn and Bees for answering my question below: So furniture we craft can be sold/traded. Free furniture that comes with a house cannot be sold or traded. Makes sense.

  • "Does this mean that any changes we make to our houses now will be permanent?" - yes

"And does this mean that we'll be able to expand our houses infinitely now?" - not infinitely. but you can have 3 floors and everything can be a little bigger than during the testing phase

"Are there multiple moving boxes?" - one each for your old house, you test home street, your test backyard and each floor of your test house. and if you had *lots* of items, it'll be split into even more boxes

"if the garden isn't big enough to hold the plots and all that are we going to lose crops?" - crops and trees (and all cultivated items) are gone - you'll have to plant some more

"Can we keep the moving boxes after we've emptied them?" - you can keep them as long as you like, but you can only unpack each box in one go - no adhoc unpacking

"can we get bigger images on that furniture overview pages in the encyclopedia" - look on individual item pages like this: www.glitch.com/items/bed/

  • *Free* plain furniture that comes with your house automatically cannot be sold or traded.

Any furniture that you make yourself you can give or sell.
Posted 7 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But...but....but my house...I like my house -_- I paid for my house, and now it's gonna be "abandoned"?!
And sure, lots of stuff will be cool, but I was hoping we'll be able to furnish our houses in the quarters. Hmph

  • "What about my crops that are ready for picking in both old and new houses. Have I lost my crops ?" - yes, they're gone

"Construction Tool - Available for purchase or do we have to craft it?" - available for purchase

"Are these boxes going to be Tardis-blue and have a "Police-Box" sign on them" - damn, a missed opportunity

"I do not understand what it means that plain furniture is "soulbound."" - only the furniture new players get given for free is this way. when you craft furniture, you can trade it
Posted 7 months ago by Bees! Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "There is a goodly amount of free furniture." - and we'll keep adding more, just like the wardrobe

Wait when have you added new free items to the wardrobe?
Posted 7 months ago by Kamer Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Bees! Thanks for keeping up with us. Also the good "overview page" advice, but that does mean the actual overview page sucks. :-P Also also, I am disappointed in the lack of TARDIS themed moving boxes. A moving box upgrade, maybe? :-P
Posted 7 months ago by Lady Cailia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Will we be able to customize/upgrade furniture by crafting, or will we only be able to build Ikea furniture and have to purchase (with credits or iMG) upgrades for it?
Posted 7 months ago by Filox Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "Wait when have you added new free items to the wardrobe?" - many times! (although not lately, we've been drawing other things)

"but that does mean the actual overview page sucks" - yeah. maybe we'll fix that :)

  • So just clarifying your answer Bees, when I open my moving box, I should be prepared to deal with everything in it.  Not one at a time.  Right?  (Edited to add:  That means if I had 4,766 boards in a single item wall cabinet, I'll get them all..oh my lordy.  This is just like real life moving.)

  • Will all furniture be charged in credits or the iMG pts ? o.O
Posted 7 months ago by Rielle Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "Will we be able to customize/upgrade furniture by crafting" - upgrading is all done by the upgrading window. upgrades are either free, sub-only, cost credit or sub-only & cost credits. you can see prices here:  http://www.glitch.com/items/table/

we'll keep adding new choices for both free and paid upgrades over time

  • Love it ALL!  Awesome! Amazing!!!

Reading the SDB description: "For the pragmatic showoff in everyone, a box with hidden depths. Not only can you display your prized possessions, but you can tuck 998 of the exact same prized possession behind it, for safekeeping."

Wish the limit hadn't been lower so much.  I really loved being able to over-stuff my SDB. :)

  • Storage Display Box now says it holds 998, which was unlimited in testing!  Say it ain't so, my planks and fibers are going to explode :0
Posted 7 months ago by Cabinwood Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "when I open my moving box, I should be prepared to deal with everything in it." - yes, per moving box (as described above, you will have multiple boxes). i will update the top post

  • I'm sure I'm going to find this out when I get in game, just wondering aloud. Furniture we craft I assume we gain imagination for, but it costs credits to upgrade (to some styles). To expand/craft our actual house and cultivate it, that is what will cost imagination?
Posted 7 months ago by Csophae Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Kamer they're ALWAYS adding new free stuff to the wardrobe!!  Just check it often and sort by "Lowest Price" not by "Newest."  My daughter does this all the time, I'm pretty sure she's bought me every single Free item in the entire wardrobe selection.  XD  lol

Edit - I wish the new machines / tools were Craftable.  :(   I feel really limited.. I didn't get engineering just for show peoples!! >:(
