Dismiss

In response to legitimate but irritating behavior (over-splanking, for instance, or "theft" of herbs from a community garden, say), it might be nice if we could Dismiss naughty glitchen.  Somewhere between Martial Imagination and Summon, the idea is that a dedicated and annoyed glitch could begin the Dismiss process, which would be public ("Joey is calling to dismiss Tara! Join the effort? [yes]") If enough people join in, the target is sent ... away.  To a teleport spot of the Dismisser, say?  Their own home?  The nearest subway station?

The worst case, roving gangs of bullies would wander the streets, Dismissing newbies to distant, dangerous locations.  This would be easy to disrupt, since good-hearted Glitchen could could teleport away members of the gang to break it up.

  • It's a clever idea, but you note yourself that the possibility for misuse exists.

If (as noted in Global by a Staff member) "splanking a naughty Glitch to death" is not acceptable, forcing other punitive actions on other Glitches probably won't get the nod, either.

Even if they deserve 'em. :)

  • -1 If you think someone is being that much of a jerk, report them to the staff.  Users should never be allowed to police other users, except by notifying the TS staff through official channels.

  • -1 as well.  It sounds like it would be a violation of the ToS.

  • Vigilantes and people taking the law into their own hands can never be  a Good Thing in Glitch or RL

  • I think there's a gap between behavior unacceptable to the game (e.g. threats made on the persons of other players) and untoward but acceptable behavior - e.g. snatching herbs.

It shouldn't be a reportable offense to do nasty things to other Glitches - and blocking doesn't really help.  Locking herbs to the planter would make  the nasty behavior untenable, but if we're going to nerf all the sharp edges, Glitch starts to look a little less interesting.

What I'm reflecting on is that there are (and should be) in-game conflicts.  There's already the implicit Rookist/Righteous conflict, complete with uniforms.  But there's no way to *resolve* conflicts, just posture.  And one your realize that it's just posturing, it's not very fun anymore.  On the other hand, there's lots of ways to cause mischief, and not all of them seem to be pure griefing.

I'm just saying, if there were a decent way to resolve conflicts, that'd be rad.  Using the model of Rook attacks seems decent: one player starts action against the naughty Glitch, and others have to confirm it.

  • No, no, no.  If you and a gang of your friends decide to 'dismiss' me, it can just be out of sheer meanness.

There is nothing in this idea that would keep gangs of griefers from roaming the streets "dismissing" other players.  All in fun, of course (for them).

  • Too much potential for abuse.

  • @Windborn - I imagine that the outcome there would be "Roaming gang of dismissers!" on the global chat, followed by a teleport-train to their location and dismissing members of the gang.  Once the gang is scattered, they cease to be a threat.  The "multiple players" requirement was meant as a control on abuse, given that the majority of players are good-actors, so it will always be easier to find people to stop a roving gang than it will be to put the gang together in the first place.

Maybe a street-wide vote style thing?  "Banish Yarrow? [yes]/[no]" and after 30 seconds, yes needs to outnumber no.  Put an energy cost on starting the vote and voting, so that it's harder to use frivolously.

  • This suggestion could easily be used as a bullying tactic rather then for the good of the game.
This task should always be left up to TS staff.

  • What if it used MI to teleport the victim to a random street within one street of the street in question. Or, if in a party space, to their point of origin.
    Without the voting system.
The MI user pays the energy freight, of course.
Agree this could be mis-used, but it's a small inconvenience.

  • If it happens in a party space, and you paid for the space or invited the player, an "uninvite" command would not be a bad thing.

Otherwise, "dismiss" as described has too much potential to be misused to grief other players.
