Will Glitch log me off automatically when I log in somewhere else?

I searched help but didn't see an answer...
My computer broke so I started using the ones at the library, then forgot to sign out. Will I stay signed in there forever? I know chances of someone coming in and spending all my money on nono poweder is unlikely, but I kind of want to know.

  • Nope. I'm constantly signed in on both my phone and computer. You're logged in until you log off.

  • Hmm.  If I were running a library computer system I would clear caches, histories, and cookies constantly for multiple reasons.   But I guess you can't count on that; the easiest fix is to go back to the library, get the same computer, and check your status and sign out.

  • It is possible to be signed in from multiple computers. I suggest you open a help case. Maybe they can kill the session or give you a hint on how to proceed.
I think I would change my password as well.

  • Well, bugger.

  • I think just changing your password will help.  I logged into my Glitch account from two different browsers (albeit on the same computer).  When I changed the password in one, the account on the other was automatically logged out.

[edit]  Tried logging in on this laptop and then my sister's PC.  Changing my password on one automatically logged me out of the other.

  • Is it just me or do any of the rest of you want to find this person's library and blow all their money on nono powder?

  • Or causing trouble in the community gardens! {{evil thoughts}} :>

(changing the password should fix it, I'd think).

  • Hm, went back to the computer, and it had logged me off.
Interesting - do you think it clears the cache automatically between users?

  • Library computers often get their cache's cleaned every evening, so that could be it.

  • I've found that if you log in on another tab on the same computer, you immediately get logged out of the first session with a message that you've logged in elsewhere.  I'd have guessed that the same happens if you log in on a different computer from the library one, but I see that others are reporting different experiences.

  • @Mocha, that isn't "Logged off" you're thinking of. You just get booted from the actual game. The account is still logged in.

And yes, depending on the size of your city/library of course, most places either clear everything between users, or at the end of the day.
I am sure there are libraries that don't, but the majority do, the ones that do not are usually in small rural towns when nobody who works there knows much about computers.

  • Just to be sure, merely change your password.  The previous session on the library computer will no longer be authenticated.

  • If you do want to avoid leaving your details on another computer, it might be worth trying the brower's Private mode (Incognito in Chrome). Most seem to have one these days, and it stops the browser storing cookies, history and other stuff that you don't want to leave on the computer..

  • You can't even log in using two browser windows at the same time:

  • The game sets a browser cookie when you log in.  As long as that cookie remains set and in existence, you can just load that browser and you'll be logged in on it.  You can clear the cookie by making sure you 'Log Out' on the Main screen of the Glitch game (or any other screen that has the Log Out link on it) when you are done playing each time.  Otherwise the cookie remains set as a convenience so that we don't need to log on each time we want to play.

Resetting your cache is redundant, and counter-productive.  The whole point in the cache existing is to reduce the amount of downloads from websites.  The cache is a temporary place for web pages to stuff commonly used items so they don't have to be reloaded each time a page is accessed.  By 'clearing the cache' you delete all the image files etc, and destroy all the cookies that every site you visit have set, including those that make it more convenient to visit those sites.  People sometimes vigorously clear their cache out of paranoia, and there are sites that track users malevolently, but most sites that set cookies do it for the benefit of the users.

Each player can only be playing the Flash part of the game (the 'Enter the World' link) in a single instance in a single window of one browser.  But hundreds of windows can be logged in to other 'views' of the game (the Home, Profile, Skills, Friends, etc. pages) on as many browsers as desired.
