Why doesn't Glitch work on tablets and what can be done?

I just got a Toshiba Thrive tablet yesterday, and while I heard that Glitch wouldn't work on tablets, I thought that I would try it anyway.  I have a version of flash on the tablet that is better than the minimum version needed to play the game.  I use Firefox for tablets as well.  When I tried to play, I ended up with a blank white page.

So I was wondering if there is any special mod to the tablet or the game that regular people would be able to do in order to make it work.  I'm not sure exactly why it doesn't work, so I would love a Dev opinion on why it doesn't.  :)  Are you going to add support for tablets in the future?  I also have a Netbook, but I would much rather play Glitch on my tablet whenever I am in my room.  :)

  • Serra - Glitch requires a computer with a keyboard and a mouse to play, for many reasons (Flash support on tablets being a big one). The game client cannot be effectively run and interacted with on a tablet because it's not built to do so.

  • Hmm, ok.  I was thinking that it would be easy to play on a tablet since you could tap to move and double tap to do an action.  When I play the game on my computer, I often click to move and always manually click on things to interact with, except for butterflies when I have to jump up to get to them.  Though I am sure that some gesture could be used to jump if the game was ported to tablets.

I'm still not sure why it shows up as a blank white screen inside my browser.  Is there some kind of function inside the innards of the game that makes it impossible for the game to show up?  Flash has progressed very well on tablets nowadays, so that shouldn't be an issue at all.

I was wondering so perhaps all of the techie glitches and myself could figure out a way to make it work on our tablets.  As long as there isn't a lock on the innards of the game itself, I would love to find a way to do it.

I actually have "Logmein" on my tablet, which allows me to connect to my computer through my wifi, allowing me to see my computer screens and to interact with them.  I forgot to try running Glitch on it last night, but I will have to try that tonight!  I am thinking that it may work since I am able to control the mouse with it and it also gives me a virtual keyboard.  I will report back on my findings!

To the dev team as well- Also remember that a physical blue tooth keyboard is available for tablets running "Honeycomb 3.0 and above", which covers most modern and decent tablets.  So as long as I could see Glitch in my browser, I would actually be able to use a keyboard to control the game.  :)

Not asking you to go out of your way for just little 'ol me, but I think that it would help all of us here who have a tablet, and perhaps even attract more people who want to play- such as people who work a boring job but don't have access to a computer during that job.  First job that pops into my mind is security guard, since I used to do that.

Basically, I'd just like to know the technical thing that is making it white out on my browser when I have good enough Flash, that way I can work on some way to make it work.  I haven't tried any other browsers yet, so that will be something that I need to try.  If there is a way to tweak the tablet or whatever in order to make it work without you having to do something special on the game to make it work, that would be great.  :)

  • I have an Acer tablet, and I have been able to get Glitch to run on it. It a bit painful though... there is a signficant lag on the video and it will crash often. A keyboard would be helpful, but most things can be done by clicking alone. I can jump by double clicking on my character. It would be nice for Tablets to be supported.
