GNE: Glitch Neighbors Endless

A Useless App™ by Lemo.
Relax and grab a bubble tea, while being introduced to the neighbors of your neighbors (of your neighbors).

Use the arrow keys to move around,
Numpad +/- to zoom in and out,
And Numpad 0 to reset the view.

Launch! GNE

PS: Rest assured that a non-useless one is being tested and will happen pretty soon.
PPS: We need more useless apps still.

  • Yeah I know, the swapDepth() are annoying, I'll fix it sometime eventually^^
Feel free to grab a shot if you see interesting patterns.
    Here is a unicorn.

  • Fun. Now if only I knew who all these people were. :) Mine is showing 2 different neighbors in different position multiple times. Is this correct or should it work like 6 degrees of separation where each persons position is represented only once and remains constant and all connections spin off from there?

  • It seems to be random, sadly.

  • Well it's not like I'm picking random glitches out of nowhere... that's exactly the way those people are connected to you, one (random) sign at a time.

Here I'm just focusing on making a single and infinite path you can easily follow, without disturbing the effects of your bubble tea. If anyone makes that giant mesh, I suppose it would have to be more static as a whole, but I would gladly have a look at it if that happen though ;)

  • This is really cool (sursprisingly so!), but my laptop doesn't have a numpad and my +/- buttons do nothing :(. Also, when I'm in another tab (in Chrome anyway), the lines don't draw and when I came back, well, this happened: http://imgur.com/lpr5k :). Just FYIs; I know obviously this was only a fun side-project for you, but I like infographics and maps, and see some potential in this, so... :)

  • I'm just really wondering what the heck this is.

  • @Bradamus Prime, look up a virtual keyboard in your OS program search thingy?
Posted 5 months ago by Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Bradamus You can also use Page Up/Down now (the zoom is not so great anyway, it's from the origin point)
About other tabs, same thing happens to me, actually the line grows according to the framerate, but flash seems to lower it down much when the window is not visible.

Have a look at what they use to play with in the (now closed :\) Digg Labs for example,
There's some potential indeed for non-grind-related "useless" apps indeed ;)
Right now the api is more a sandbox than the actual game is

  • Hmm I think something can be done with the auctions, with a result like the Digg Labs Swarm I posted above.
