Wood trees: change 'Harvest and clear' to 'Harvest and kill'

'Clear' appears as an option on dead trees of other varieties.

When those not experienced with wood trees see

a) a teeny little stump that barely looks like a tree, and
b) the option 'Harvest and clear',

they could be forgiven for thinking the poor wood tree's already dead - especially if the water and pet options are greyed out.

By changing the option to 'Harvest and kill', you'll make everyone a little bit more aware of the consequences of their actions when dealing with these atypical trees.

  • I'd like to see wood trees simply work like other trees. Why should they be killable by anyone without poison?  If they remain the same, "Harvest and Clear' should lead to a popup reading  "Do you really want to kill this tree?"

  • +1 on the word change. "clear" is not clear enough as to what you are doing.
    +1 on having a popup.

  • Personally I like the fact that we have a tree that behaves differently to others.
But I like the idea of a popup confirmation.

  • Not only change to include "kill" but include a debuff not unlike the one for poisoning

  • Well, something definitely needs to happen to make the wood trees more plentiful.  When I had a quest related to wood, I went to one of the groups that tracks where things are and there was only a single wood tree in the entire world at the time.  That's sad.  They need to auto sprout occasionally or something.  I didn't even know that they existed until I got the quest.  I think the same thing is slowly happening with the spice trees, I noticed that one of the Spice roads didn't have a single spice tree on it.

Plus we need a tutorial on these trees.  I planted a fruit tree, a spice tree, and a fruit tree in my home and the other trees died and went away before they were grown while the fruit tree is still there.  How are we supposed to know how to take care of them?

  • I've never cleared a wood tree, but that process definitely needs a confirmation that makes it clear that the action will kill the tree.  There will be some folks who will still be selfish, but this will help players who are expecting these trees to behave like all the others.

There does need to be a mechanism to prevent any resource in the world from going to zero.  Chickens can't be killed, so we can always hatch more animals; fireflies, barnacles, rocks, and most other resources respawn.  Wood trees are about the only resource that seems able to go to zero, so there needs to be a better in-game means of re-populating them, given the long growing time, and the limited number of public patches.

I really like the idea of having more tutorials and quests that delve a little more into the the process of tending trees of different types:  Regular vs dark patches, trees that only grow in some regions, watering, petting, growing from sapling to tree, what makes a tree wither, etc.  The problem with the quest to nurse a tree to full health was not a flaw in the idea or goal, but that is that there is no way to judge the health of any tree, and the means of achieving the goal was unclear.
