Voting system

When I paid for a subscription, one of the biggest selling points to me was the fact that I would receive tokens to spend, voting on what features I want to see most, or something along those lines.

Is there any idea on when we should expect that system to be in place?

This is a game that is 'built' by the players, both with our actions in game and with our suggestions outside of the game.  Give us a chance to tell you with our MONEY what is most important to us instead of trying to filter through the ideas forum for things not already on your 'giant list of things to do'.

Why not let us see that giant list of things to do and get our feedback on what we want to see most on that list?  I understand when it comes to game development and site programming it's not as simple as throwing things down into Notepad, but I think it would give you a better idea as to what the people paying to play want to see so you don't lose their interest.

  • Yeah, that's actually a good point.  Part of the subscription are feature votes - available Real Soon Now... so of all the Ideas in the forums, this seems like the most justified request.

  • now if you want to vote on the future of Glitch, i'm sure you will - but "Give us a chance to tell you with our MONEY" is no reason to stunt or pre-empt an ideas forum.

the ideas to be voted on? they need to come from somewhere.

in a beta, you want many ideas as possible flying around, from lots of different people. this is important. if TS caters exclusively to existing paying players, they may end up not attracting other types of paying players.

at some point Glitch might get some ideas that they are unsure of, and put it up for a vote. more likely, if there is going to be voting on a monthly basis, the sort of things being voted on may be totally unrelated to the kinds of things currently discussed in the ideas forum, as it may be impossible or unwise to churn out a 'high level feature' every month. more common might be voting on concept art for different regions, to determine which regional aesthetic is built out first. that sort of thing.

the game needs to attract a large player base. focusing on the subscribers' niche requests in the short term may end up being detrimental to everybody, paying players included, in the long term. growing a larger, more diverse subscriber base and THEN starting to take votes has its advantages.

"Yeah, that's actually a good point.  Part of the subscription are feature votes - available Real Soon Now... so of all the Ideas in the forums, this seems like the most justified request."

the game has been released for about 3 months now. not very long. it has also been recalled into Beta in order to revisit and add in some core concepts. people unhappy about going back to a beta situation have been offered a chance to get their money refunded. since the votes roll over into the next month, by the time the voting system is out the current subscribers will have a ton of votes accrued and thus more say than newcomers.

  • I agree, voting was one of the primary reasons that I chose to purchase a subscription. The second was of course to support a good idea. tokens? not so much, costumes? meh. Much as I appreciate the cuteness and adorable-factor of the glitchenchiks and the few non-glitchenchiks that pull it off well, that feature really appears to be geared towards fems rather than males.

However, wrt voting,  we've now moved back to beta, so we may not see any of that for a while, until TS gets the game in whatever working order it feels is sufficient for true release.

idk, due to several officially sanctioned factors that seem fundamentally contrary to the implied/advertised "world philosophy" , I'm having conflicting emotions on the subject of a refund. I suppose I need to get that sorted out soon.

  • Woochi, can we please not generalize as to who the wardrobe feature is aimed toward? I know male Glitches that change their outifts often and female Glitches that have been wearing the exact same thing for 6 months. And the gender of the Glitch does not necessarily reflect the gender of the player. If the wardrobe feature (and/or the teleportation tokens) do not appeal to you (or to a subset of Glitch players who agree with you), then say that. No need to go essentializing gender-based traits. The plural of anecdote is not data.

That said, I think I mostly agree with what striatic said above re: the voting system.

  • karibean I can generalize any way I like. I do so based on my personal observation. you don't have to like it. really. I can accept that. If you're really offended, you can call me ugly names and block me . please I really don't care.

  • i can assure you that the clothing feature is not geared toward females. it is geared toward people who like to dress their avatars in virtual clothes.

most of those avatars, currently, seem to be female. this is useful information but an outlook that assumes that 'cutesy adorable stuff is for girls' is the kind that would miss out on groups like the "bronies" fan segment ... m.wired.com/underwire/2011/...

  • I can assure you that in my friends list and wrt to those I discuss life the world and everything in global, the single most likely person to be changing their clothes, hair, etc with any regularity is a woman. I don't say with disrespect or as a "misogynist" or any of the other trite dogmatic crap that I've heard tossed at me by certain parties who want to promote a particular world view when I make statement of observed fact, I just observe and catalogue. You are mistaken at best. IMO, I said "that feature really appears to be geared " not IS

  • Post about the voting system or shut up, please.

As far as where the ideas to be voted upon come from, they still would come from the ideas forum, where all Glitches can participate.  TS then selects the things they like best, the things they feel are feasible, as well as things we haven't mentioned or things you suggested like how a new region may look, and puts those ideas to a vote.  Even if you don't want to pay to play, you can still suggest new ideas.

  • I'd like to see some sort of system like UserVoice where you can 'spend' some of your votes to create an idea (like this ideas forum) and others can spend a limited number of votes voting on those ideas. The ideas with the most votes are what the devs focus on, and when the ideas are implemented people get their votes for that idea refunded.
I'm not sure if a glitch version should work exactly like that, but something along those lines.
