  • Yes please! Let us know what's up!
Give us something - anything - maybe some cosplaying staff members to keep us entertained.

  • we really need to define "due" vis a vis, stuff an agile company told us.
anyone with any familiarity with software in an agile environment knows that if it's not up to standard, especially if you have high standards, doesn't ship.
in part, because of the title of this thread.
    deep breath.
    has the awesome NOT happened?
    totally happens.
    every time.
    not with every company/game.
But with these guys & gals.
    Yeah.
    Look at the team!
I sometimes feel as if we are spoiled.

  • @Crashtest - they said "End of April" on their blog - it wasn't just a passing comment, that's what was meant by "due"
Posted 7 months ago by La Mariposa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Let me explain.
    We participate here.
    We like it here.
Due is something a teacher says to a student.
Expected is something a fan says to a band.
Desired is something someone says to a gift.

    Due is the wrong word.

    We.
    Are.
    Still.
    In.
    Beta.

    This is a privilege.

Even if the world changes, deadline changes.
We get the awesome of participating in an incipient world.
I've done this four times. Maybe five.
    It's special.

The word "due" suggests that you expect a product that is far less protean than it is.
The privilege is that you get to participate in how the world grows.

My final thought: this truly is special.
    My background:
    LambdaMoo
    Gemstone III and IV
    Improbable Island
A variety of other, different games.
And now here.  After 18 years.

    Don't say 'due' to devs.
    Say 'do'.

  • Can't people wait two weeks??
Posted 7 months ago by daniel5457 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I just don't understand, why some people are in such a hurry. We are in Beta still, TS could have opened the game, just to test things, like we used to. Seeing that RED closed sign up on the site, so sad, then when it was open we were all so happy for a few days. Would you like to go back to that. Make the most of this wonderful game and enjoy.

  • I'm good with how things are going...the devs , currently , are communicating with us, imo, pretty well via the forums and such.
( i only dont like it when they are really silent for long periods) .
We've gotten content updates , the game remains live/open and like others have said- it IS beta afterall.
Like crash says above - I think glitch is special and I'm happy to be
here enjoyfully (yes I'm sure that i made that word up) watching the world grow (and even helping it along to enbigify) .
So , I'm good with waiting more weeks, and I actually LIKE it that the devs DO tell us things are coming with a "general time frame" and that they dont specify "down to the day " how long some things will take to arrive. (this surprises me as i'm not known for patience).
I LIKE this way because they are working on a complicated product and bugs pop up as devs test offline that prevent release on schedule. Therefore, I'd rather have the "general" timeframe ,then be disappointed with a "specific hard date" when it takes a bit longer than they originally foresaw. (hindsight being 20-20 and foresight being 10-10, and all that ) . :D

  • Thank the Giants for voices of reason like Crashtestpilot, who, with a few very carefully chosen words, said very concisely and succinctly that what we're all participating in at the moment is a privilege, not a right.
I have nothing to add except: for those who continue to flail, perhaps a thorough reading of this thread is in order......
    oooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........

  • I'd say there's no reason to expect that the two weeks comment was a joke.  Honestly, compared to the wait for a lot of games, Glitch is being produced much faster than average.  And in the meantime we have a working beta version to play in.

Though I really don't know how I'm going to choose between Glitch and Diablo III in mid May.  :)

  • Thanks Crashtestpilot, I really didn't need a new definition of the word Due, I also know what Beta/Alpha is also about, so no need to attack my judgement on what I asked, but thanks for the input, i'll file it in useless info I don't need.
    Consider my Question nullified :)

  • The way things have been going with this lovely game, I seriously don't mind waiting a good while longer. There's already so much to do now!!

Patience is a virtue that is fundamental to a spirit, like the beat of a tribal drum...

  • Yup, once Diablo 3 is out I'm going to be playing that until my eyes bleeds. Glitch will be taking a backseat. That being said, it's possible that those who play one don't play the other so I'm likely an exception rather than a rule.

This isn't a threat or anything. Just what I'm planning to do. My itchy fingers have been waiting for Diablo 3 for years. Glitch will be my relaxing game!

  • I didn't get the sense the OP was being whiny or entitled. I interpreted her use of the word "due" as one would in a question like, "When is the baby due?"

I see some interesting synergies there.

  • Me and 3 mates just pre-ordered Diablo 3, i think all games will be taking a back seat for quite possibly a fair while

  • Sirentist's analogy -- "I didn't get the sense the OP was being whiny or entitled. I interpreted her use of the word "due" as one would in a question like, "When is the baby due?"" --is apt. Any mother will tell ya that when doctors set a "due" date, they usually say it could vary in actuality by two weeks either way!

  • I actually don't mind a two-week-out wait for the updates- I'm a level and a half off 60, so I should be able to squeak in.
Posted 7 months ago by Djabriil Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Mollie/Sirentist:
    Yes.
Due has that sense of the word.
That was not what I was reacting to.
You may be right, and I may have been mistaken.

Speaking only for myself, I think we've recently had a hell of a recent update; there is so much to do now that it's sometimes confusing, at least to me.

What I was reacting to was the idea of, "Hey, we just had an update; where is my MOAR update?"

Just sounded a bit spoiled to me.  If that was not the intention of the OP, I'm sorry.  So, I'll sign off on this thread, but thanks to the rest of the participants in this thread who evidently shared my sympathies.

  • due: "expected or appointed to be present or arrive"

Attacking the OP for asking a question is bullying.

And a 28 LINE response is neither concise (expressing or covering much in few words) nor succinct (expressed in few words). It was a 28 line stick used to beat someone who dared to express an opinion that might be interpreted as SLIGHTLY dissatisfied IF the responder REALLY stretched the imagination.

If you are to presume to give grammar lessons, at least be sure to have your facts in order.

  • I think the perpetual two weeks to completion is a reference to The Money Pit.

  • Thankyou to the few people who actually got the question right, it was not demanding, whining or any other analogy other people have decided.
    Thanks to those few :)

  • NP, annie. It is sad when a simple question brings any kind of overreaction. Personally, I was hoping some staff member would see your very clear question, and give some kind of slight clarification on the two weeks (never heard of this movie, Money Pit, so do not get the reference).

Anyways, it gives more people time to get to 60 and enjoy the freedom that comes from not paying attention to mood. :)

  • No worries anne, I thought it was a legit question, phrased quite politely.

+1 Tibbi.  The behavior you describe is one of the reasons the forum has become stagnant.

  • The thing that gets me about threads like this is when someone takes one word and harps on that. Would the phrase "privilege end of April" have made any sense? no.

This is why I don't create topics in the forums- too many people seem to be eager to tear it to shreds. I commend you, anne, for not letting some of the answers get you down.

  • I've always been leery of that word "chance"

Iffy word if ever I read a word.

  • I think that we should all expect it will be two weeks, and then if it comes earlier, we can be extra happy!  Yay, extra happiness!
Posted 7 months ago by Zoethor2 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • As someone who has been part of several dev teams and many betas, I don't think two weeks give or take is even remotely unreasonable.  They're building something that's never been built before, all while taking into account all the opinions and feedback they get from their testers (us), which means all estimates are just that:  estimates.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll be soon enough, and really awesome, too.  TS has never let me down.  I've always been really pleasantly surprised at how they always deliver more than they promise, along with their regular communication with users here on the forums.  If nothing else, remember that someone, somewhere is paying for Glitch's development out of pocket, which isn't cheap, and they are surely even more interested than us in getting it shined up and out of beta.  :)

  • Oh, we are completely spoiled, 'tis true. We always want more, and the beauty of Glitch is that it is endlessly expandable.  The capacity for change in the game will keep it fresh and exciting for newbies and "oldies" alike - an important element, lest we get bored and wander away to other pursuits.

Rushing change is a whole 'nother matter.  Yes we're excited, but it's never good to rush these things.  I muchly prefer a quality product to one that is sub-par, don't you? ;D
Posted 7 months ago by Genkimama Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I sorta thought the two weeks comment might have been a joke, because the KoL guys have had a running joke for years that anytime they are asked when a thing will be released, the answer is always two weeks, thereby presumably discouraging people from asking a question that could conceivably add a two-week delay to a thing that was otherwise ready to go.

Then again, I have been around long enough to know that the real answer to this question is, as mentioned upthread, more like 'just assume two months because being pleasantly surprised is much more fun than agonizing over when a thing will be done already.'

  • My reaction was exactly the same as Crash.  Besides, the last blog said closer to the end of the month, not by the end of the month, not immediately following the end of the month, but closer than when the blog was written.  Although clearly things are happening today, up to just short of two weeks from now would have been closer to the end of the month than 4/16 -- nothing was ever "due"
