Does anybody ever use the "Max" button on the vendor buy dialog?

Has anybody actually ever wanted to buy 999 of an item? Or to turn their entire Ur-ly wealth into meat collectors?

It seems to me that the "max" button on the vendor buy dialog is only ever used by mistake. Maybe it could be re-purposed for something else? The thing I'd love to see would be a stack-size button... pressing it would set the quantity to however many of an item fit in a backpack slot. For items that only fit one-per-slot maybe it could do something else (or disappear from the dialog for those items)?

  • Agreed that the "max" button on vendor dialogue is nothing but trouble.  Just accidentally filled my inventory with Earthshakers a few hours ago, lol.  On the other hand, I would like to point out that the "max" button on other dialogue, like cooking, alchemy, etc, is useful, and I use it a lot.

Maybe for vendor dialogue they could have a popup asking "are you sure you want to buy 100 Earthshakers?"

  • I do! On a fairly regular basis, due to my tendencies to carry relatively full bags, cook things that need veggies, to not garden, and wanting to buy full stacks of said veggies. That being said, I wouldn't mind a confirmation dialogue, especially if it was done with humor and even more so if it was triggered only when you bought more than the larger of 2 or 3 full stacks or ~6 single stack items like poisons or whatever.

  • Once I lost 3000 currants when I was saving up for a house due to this button and that really put me off. I agree with Kross that it is annoying. But, I also agree with Katlazam, that it is useful as well. I think, like Kross that there should be a popup asking whether you would like to buy it or not.

  • Agree with the OP; I'd like to see "max" be a "one full stack" button instead, which is how it tends to work in other games I've played.

  • I use it all the time especially when buying tree poison.  I'm (still) going after Paul Bunions and am usually buying as much tree poison as my bags can hold.

  • Katlazam  - if you're cooking with bought vegetables, wouldn't you want to balance what you bought? Like buy 2 stacks of tomatoes, 2 stacks of onions etc. rather than "fill every space in my bags with tomatoes"? Or maybe you're using it for "I'm running low on tomatoes, my bags are full, top up whatever's missing from my tomato stack" ?

Maybe it could be a "stack size increment" button? First time you press it, it ups the quantity to the stack size, 2nd time you press gives you another stack-load etc. Admittedly that wouldn't be of any use with items that are one-per-slot like tree poison... no different from the "+" button then

  • yeah, i do, but to be fair it usually does involve some fiddling as i go.  i will buy however much olive oil i want, then full stacks of whatever, until i am full up, then i will use max to fill up a stack.  ridiculously fiddly really, and really all because my bags are unorganized and i can't be bothered to figure out where my stack-end of onions are or whatever.  a stack size increment option sounds like it would make everybody's lives easier!

  • Hmmm - maybe it's still confusing... 1st thought about a "stack size increment" button would be to always buy a full stack of stuff. But maybe what you'd actually want it to do would be to top up an existing stack. So, if you had 10 olive oil in your inventory, first press would up the purchase quantity to 30 (cos olive oil stacks 40 to a slot), 2nd press would up quantity to 70. I think that would be cool - but might confuse the hell out of users.

Yeah, bag & ingredients management rapidly becomes a nightmare. Can't see a sensible solution that wouldn't be a nightmare to implement, a nightmare to manage and confuse the hell out of everybody... eg attributes on different items and flags on specific bags so that (eg) acquired rocks always went into one bag, acquired vegetables always went into another.

Might be an interesting customer-written application for the API though... teach it what things you want in what bags & it remembers... then when you revisit the application & press "sort" it moves things around so (eg) your 3 partial stacks of onions (one of which is probably in your rocks bag) all end up consolidated into your veggies bag. A nice dream :-)

  • +1 to the idea to purchase full stacks
+1 to the idea to make max harder to unintentionally click

  • Definitely like the stack idea. Kudos to you for thinking this up.

  • Would rather the max button be a fill up the stack button...I press it and then think...darn it...that's not what I meant...since I usually mean that I want the max to round off my stack.

  • It would be cool to have vendor options in the inventory. The max button could become "buy a stack" and clicking an item while interacting with a vendor could give the option of "fill stack".

To streamline it, maybe add a glow to the have the stackable items in the inventory which correspond to what that particular vendor sells.

  • +1 to full stack buying and for a confirmation on the max option :)
I rarely buy max of anything, but I have done at some points. Mainly with spinach. I don't want an "Are you sure?" everytime I buy anything, but I wouldn't mind it on the Max quantity option to avoid mistakes :)
