I'm not sure about the schedule yet, but tithes that are made when the icon doesn't NEED one give me extra favor (variable amounts), which is nice, when I have the extra currants.
I was in someone's house with an idol that was quite the beggar. I decided then and there to not own one, ever. Nothing worse than working your butt off to get something, and have it beg you all the time (worse than a newb in WoW).
I hardly tithe mine now. I have four working on the next two. After that I think I may give up altogether. It is just not worth the currents. Well over 800 a time. I seem to be spending more than I'm making so its not viable. :(
@Innie: I get such huge XP and energy bonuses (even just by walking by), it doesn't bother me too much. I guess I'd prefer if I could turn off their "vocalization" but I totally understand what you're saying. :-D
How much do you have to give them? and how often? I'm not sure I would care much for a bunch of items in my living room crying out "feeed meeee seemooor" every time I walk past.
I'm guessing the money you give them is a percentage of your XP or level or some other sort of dark magic with numbers. My tithing amount right now is 484c.
I've only had the icon take money from me involuntarily once so far in the several days I've had it (I'm pretty sure it took money from me), and it's given me mood, energy, favor and XP several times.
I agree, as you get higher in level the cost becomes undesirable. Eventually I'm presuming I might stop using mine too... though I only use mine for the XP bump
When possible I pay a trustworthy lower level player to tithe for me. Saves loads of money. At level 48 they cost 1041 currents each to recharge or 11,451 total.
I carry mine around with me all the time. I think you get 3 interactions from them before they need a recharge. When you keep them in a bag you don't get random boost, you choose favor, energy or xp.
With 11 icons I no longer need food or drinks at all. The Icons keep my mood and energy filled. I am an airatarian!
I don't tithe my icons at all. I don't ask them of anything except the random bonuses they give me as I walk by, and they don't ask anything of me. Which is good cos I'm perpetually broke from cubimals XD
I finally got my first Icon the other day. I've never had it give me anything when I walked by, nor have I seen it "ask" for anything. Maybe I've been tithing voluntarily too much to see it do anything?
Ugh I have all of them, and mine seem to want tithes all the time.
I'll log in on one or two game days and get the xp boost from each of them (don't need energy or mood) once for each game day, then the next real day I log in again and they'll want tithes (682 currants each at my level). Since I'm not actively trying to level up (it was just a nice bonus) I'm just not tithing them much now because they eat up most if not all of my currants when I do.
I have had a few bonuses from walking past them, but sometimes they also give you something you already have. Like you'll be full on energy and they try to give you more.
I too would like to know the frequency of their requests for tithes/how it is calculated. There's another thread which figured out how your tithe amount is calculated (by level).
Mine has only given me random walk-by rewards once. It also gave one of my guests a surprise boost one time.
It does sometimes hook it up when you ask for health,etc... sometimes... not so much.
I like the idea of just carrying it around with you, seems like I'd get a lot more use out of it that way. When I'm home, I don't exactly need more energy, what with all the livestock.
Well, not tithing voluntarily did result in it asking for currents. So I can tithe only when asked and get no favor in return, or I can tithe voluntarily once a game day and get 10 to 30 favor points. I prefer the voluntary option.
