Booting Someone Out of Your House

After you give someone permission to enter your house, is a way to revoke that permission or kick them out without blocking them entirely? I accidentally "let someone in" and I don't mind being friends with them I just don't want them to be able to hang out in my house when I'm not there haha

  • Yes, currently they can only re-enter your house if you are still on line,  Thus, if you just go offline and come back again they shouldn't have free reign of entering your house;)

  • However, if you go offline and they are in your house, they do get to stay in the house as long as they want.

  • That's what I'm worried about. It seems like you should have the ability to politely usher someone out of your house when you leave. May a prompt when you leave that says "So and so is still in your house, would you like them to stay?"

  • LOL- Reminds my of 'real life' house guests. LEAVE already ;-)

  • I would recommend using your words. Like, "Okay, let's go." Or, "I am going off the game, see hope you can come back next time I am around." Ms. Manners likely has additional options for you.

  • I found out the hard way that asking someone to leave your house or them leaving with you, isn't enough. You have to actually log out. Or they can re-enter.

I hope that the person who took my music blocks feels good about stealing after I let them into my home and was a gracious host. :(

  • WOW!! I didn't know that ppl you have allowed in can continue to come into your house even after you've left unless you log off and log back on. I do hope this is something that can be addressed by the dev's   Not even good  :(

  • That's terrible g33kgurrl :(

Definitely need a way to get people out.

I'm never letting anyone in my house, I've heard too many people talk of things going missing, even when it's people they know going in. Sad that people do stuff like that. I know everyone plays the game differently, and I usually respect that. But when it's stealing... I have no tolerance for that kind of crap.

Snipe auctions, kill everything, price gouge, mine other peoples rocks... that fine, I can deal with all that, but stealing others stuff? No.
People who do that need more than a splanking. They should get a sign attached to their avatar for the rest of their Glitch life telling the world they're a lousy thief and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near anyone elses property.

  • Yes, and I don't know what happened, but these kind of incidents have happened a lot more in the recent tests than in tests past. I've noticed much more negative actions lately. What caused this wave of malice?

  • Unwanted house guests are like vampires. You have to invite them in but then that's it, you are doomed.....

  • Possibly due to the influx of the new beta players (disclosure: I'm a beta). A lot of the alphas accumulated quite a lot of items after a LOT of game play. They earned it. Some of the theft is simple jealousy or a desire for instant gratification. Case in point - the recent thread about locking down block makers. The idea of the "lock and key" was a result of a small part of the population destroying the enjoyment for the rest. I mined other peoples rocks until I learned better (does "helping mine" do anything really?) I still have it happen to me, especially if I'm distracted by such things as the simple need to eat or go to the restroom. @Ebil - Shaming is tempting, but it's counterproductive and I'm NOT going into lengthy arguments about a topic that is covered in depth elsewhere. Also, I suspect that the average age of players is trending downwards and the tendency for instant gratification seems to follow younger players who haven't yet learned the impulse control that older players have acquired.  I've not been exposed  to too much of the "kill everything" type, but there are those who thrive on the excitement that they derive from wanton destruction. If you want a deeper discourse I'd suggest Dr.'s Yochelson and Samenow's seminal work The Criminal Personality - Volume I. They don't go deep into the etiology (the study of causes and origins) of the phenomena, but they provide a strong general symptomatic model.

  • That is a shame about the thief, mister cake got robbed by the Juju bandit, but that is not as bad, because I didn't trust him into my home. If Mister Cake finds any duplicate music boxes he will send them to you right away!

  • I was always thinking about making a topic about this. I really hope the Developers can really make a move on about house permissions because they are really needed. Not so long ago I let someone in my house as I trusted them and when I went offline they were in the midst of reentering the room knowing they'd get locked out, I go online and all of my food, and drinks are gone. As this was an Alpha tester, why? Why would you do this when you have so much of it. I really hope we don't have a boot feature but disabling the re entering multiple times function.

  • Just on the mining thing - someone online said that helping mine gets you more rocks? I thought there was a thread on it here somewhere but I didn't read through completely and could be wrong.

Agree that it would be great to have a way to bounce people out of your house, though; I don't invite people in because I don't know them well enough to know if they'll thieve or not. (For the most part, anyway.)  I have lots of junk laying about my house; I could totally be on a Glitch version of Hoarders. ^_^

  • Strange for anyone to rob someone virtually.  How weird are these people.  Looters, thieves and beggers are a pain in the ass.

  • Another reason to worry is that if you log out while in someone else's home, that's where you start once you log back in, even if they've logged out too. I logged out in a friend's house before a test ended and re-entered the world in her house during the next test. I don't think it's been changed. That makes hosting parties a bit dangerous, and it's so sad that this is the case. It should be obvious that picking up objects in someone else's house is wrong, but I guess not everyone is all that bothered about it in a game.

I like the idea of having a prompt upon leaving, and maybe clicking on a player in your home should give you the option to boot them out as well.

  • @Mister Cake -- that is very kind of you. My only grumble was that I was nearly done with all the blocks. I think I had 3 to go.

But I will get them done...or not...before the reset.

I have been in several people's homes and would never think of taking anything. I don't even harvest even not specifically invited to do so. It does boggle my mind that others find this acceptable.

  • We do need a 'boot out of your house' option , just as we have a general block option and an evade option for follows.  Actually, does blocking someone boot them out of your house?  As I type this, I don't know.

I'm not sure how mining fits into this, but just to note that shared mining is now encouraged by the game itself with 'help mine' menu and gets all players bonuses of extra rocks when mining.  But there's an entire topic devoted to that.

I'm not keen on lock/drop in one's homes. since you can control who comes in...

.... to a point! Last night at the party, I found that I could teleport (summon) other people *directly* into someone's home.  You can't even teleport into your own home, so this seems to be a bug.  I also realized that I didn't really know who the hell I was teleporting to the party, and stopped doing it after a few summonings since, well, you just don't know what will happen.  Which is a shame because Glitch is recently attracting more negative behavior than I've seen before to the point where I almost quit the game for good yesterday.

At any rate, there could be two options here:
-- Boot all people - perfect for a party, boots everyone out of your house when the party is over.
-- Individual boot - for the mistake you made which you cannot undo.

I have more to say about giving players more control against bad behavior in another topic. ;-)

  • +1 for booting people.

You could have a boot swinging on your screen kicking you then you go to the loading screen.

  • Certainly needs a rethink, so Cupcake could have just about anyone in her house when the game restarts!

I always liked how I could 'PO' people from my Animal Crossing town...no not that - Party Over ...

  • Of course you can teleport into your own home, sillyhead, zeeberk! Just set your teleport point once you are inside. Works fine for me. :)

  • I have tried several times to set my teleport point inside my house, to no avail. It always defaults to just outside my door.

On topic, I would love a boot function. It just makes good sense. I can throw guests out of my IRL house when they've overstayed their welcome, so why not on Glitch?
Posted 18 months ago by Murri Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Why not, for summoning, instead of summoning someone into another one's house without permission, they just appear right outside the door.
Posted 18 months ago by sugarj Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hmm.. I said my g'byes to Cupcake and left the party 5 minutes before the end of test.  One, because I like to "wake up" in my own house when the game starts back up and Two, because I would not be so rude as to stay the "night" without an invite (even if "One" did not apply).  There should be a "blanket" boot that we can use whenever needed for our houses.

  • There seems to be some variation about TP'ing into your own home. I think for the most part you can only TP to outside your front door. But I have a house in Alakol and my TP point is set straight into my garden. I'd hate to give that up as it saves so much meither, but it does seem unfair that other players can't.

As for other people - well I guess there's somethings I'll never understand. The only rule is that if you have something you don't want to risk - lock it up in the cabinet (where other people can't access it) or keep them in your inventory. Only leave things out if you are willing to risk them going walkabouts. That said, I've heard of people's meat collectors being 'acquired' too. Does everything have to be locked down?

Wish we had a mode where anything you put down in your house cannot be picked up by another player unless you give them permission.

  • That's odd.  I'm much rather be able to teleport into my home than just onto my street.  It saves me from loading yet another street/set of graphics when all I really want is, for example, to get inside, make some blocks, and teleport back to a project site as expeditiously as possible.  My neighbors are rarely hanging around on the street, and don't tend to strike up conversations, so there's little social benefit to landing outside.  Is there a technical reason for it?

  • please allow boot
    :-)
Posted 17 months ago by Gemineye Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I would also like to see the allow/deny option changed for when someone is knocking at your door.  it's too easy to allow someone into your house by accident, especially if you're at a project and you're constantly getting notices that say your gizmo broke or that your  items sold in auction.  those notices all look alike when you're in a hurry.  I've had the experience of complete strangers knocking on my door when i'm at a project.  This has happened a couple of times now.  Do they just go up and down the street and knock on everyone's door?  Maybe the gnomes could start a neighborhood watch.

  • Would love to give the gnomes an allowed list - like a glitch butler - they will maybe try to dissuade them but then let them in :)

  • I reported this issue to devs some months ago. Strictly speaking guests should leave when you ask them to/kick them out/go offline. And it would be nice to be able to lock valuable and necessary goodies in place so that they can't be picked up.... piggie feeders, collectors etc.
Posted 17 months ago by snygyst Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Also , once let into your home, that guest, if they have the skill, can summon anyone into your home (not outside the door).  That seems inconsistent with not being able to teleport directly into your home.
Posted 17 months ago by zeeberk Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's a bit like RL really. RL doesn't have a block option, the only option you really get is the lock the doors, and yell at people TO GET THE HELL OUT OF MY HOUSE! Or something like that. Or you could go, hey, thanks for visiting, buh- bye, but I don't think they are really accepted practices now of days. I think people are rude for making it awkward for me to ask them to get the hell of home. It's my home, so I can do anything here. I need a 'get out of my house' button for my home.

  • "That's odd.  I'm much rather be able to teleport into my home than just onto my street.  "

@Glum, yes being allowed to TP direct into home was a bug.  I think some people were experiencing others 'following' into their homes when they didn't want them to, so to only be able to TP to outside your home, puts in a kind of preventative step.

I would like to see a 'trusted friends' option where they can go into your home at any time whether you are on-line or not, as this can help if you are working on something together  e.g. making blocks etc, however, again, there should be an option to switch that on/off and be able to boot people if you want to.

ETA it's obviously possible to lock down as it was done to the machines in machine rooms last test, however, it was done 'manually' so possibly not so easy to create a generic switch with all the possible permutations.

+1 for Sny too, a global option to either lock or release items in your home to visitors..ok this can  start to get complicated as in, who, when, all, or individuals, but I too would like to see something done here ;)

  • I would like the game to move people outside your house when you go offline..or at least offer the option to move someone out of your house.  I did not have anything taken, just a friend pranking me when I was not in the mood to be pranked.   It was all resolved in a friendly fashion but it just happened to be at a time when I had lots going on in rl.  It would have been great if I could have just signed off - and when I came back was alone again.  Just MO
