The Big Picture

The devs are loading new stuff on us. But that is to guid us away from the big picture. Yes, something greater then wine, housing and mourning all together. But i do not know what the big picture is. I to, have been guided away. But i want to see the big picture. Don't u all want to see it? But the will not tell us. They will realse it on us like u surprise and many of us will die from the awsomeness. We must get ready. Spy on the rev's to find out the plan. Then tell everyone. It will save us all.

  • You assume we are being guided.
You assume there is a big picture.
What are the observations/data/etc. that support these assumptions?
    Just curious.
From my perspective, I see sequential value releases in an MMO.
R2, level-balancing, and imagination conversion, IMO, are value releases aimed at solving very specific emergent game issues:
    IE:
    a) housing blocks were not scaling in proportion to territory without inflicting street sign cluttering.  For the game to get VERY large, housing needed to be instanced on each Glitch, or else the world would have to become unnavigably large.
    b) level-balancing was necessary owing to many beta-glitches maxing out levels, thereby removing much of the impetus for many of the most loyal players.
    c) imagination conversion was necessary to fix the in-game economy.

As to the other feature releases:
    d) wine of the dead is necessary for property maintenance, and a neat meta-game besides.
    e) snapshotting provides players with a new way to share/create new social dynamics, and potentially viral art assets that could draw in new players in future.
    f) SDBs are likely necessary for game performance in a game where amassing hoards is a good way to create in-game items, share wealth, and generate xp.

This all feels pretty sensible to me.

Candidly, I think if these feature releases are "cover" for some broader, hidden move, it's probably to reduce lag and create a game world that can take in 10-50x the number of players we had at peak.

  • lol CTP I like how you classify wine of the dead as "necessary" ;-)

  • @Lettuce: Perhaps that was a poor word choice.
I think we can both agree that SOME tool was needed, and that at least the art was done for Wine of the Dead.
But it could have just as easily been...some other potion that we make, or a tool in inventory, or, or, or...
