To all "Speckers"

Hi,

I'd like to write a short message for everybody who worked on Glitch. I just read the FAQ, and read between the lines that many got laid off.

"And, suddenly, many of these wonderful, hard working and exceptionally capable people are looking for new homes. If you are hiring, please see our "Hire a Specker" page."

In the last 4 years, I've been part of two teams who got disassembled because of investors. In one of which, we finished programming an entire application suite a-la SAP ( see http://www.sap.com/ ). And then, one month before release the major villain Russian investor told off to get lost and chose SAP instead of our suite, leading us to unemployment. (Many US citizens suffered from the RG Steel factory close down, maybe you know somebody?). That kind of stuff happened to me twice and I can tell you that it sucks and I know that feeling. It really feels like a surprise for TS too IMO because they were pushing nice updates every months lately and now BOOM closure...

Here's what I wanted to tell you, good luck. I'm not worried about anybody who worked at TS, because they delivered an amazing online experience, in one I had the chance to grow and be a part of. Me and my girlfriend will miss our homes like no other. Programmers, Animators, Designers, and all the production team, you are all the heart of this beautiful product. I surely believe in you, without you this game wouldn't be online at the first point. Be proud, and take the time to go somewhere else, build something else and impress us.

So please, if anyone has an enterprise or something in development that needs the help of a fellow technician, please Hire A Specker.

Once again, thank you for the good times. I will forever miss my first Zilloween, spent with my girlfriends, decorating our houses and going crazy everywhere with our costumes.

  • But damn, any chance to release the source code? I know I know it cost a lot, but I believe many programmers like me would like to try to optimize it. It can't die forever ;-(

  • Forget optimize it...  I'd love to just flat out use it.  I'm a developer and I'd love to buy a self contained compiled "Glitch Server" package.  (The code would be awesome, but I'd buy a binary only version of the server for a reasonable price in a hot second.)  Install it on a pile of servers and run something cool with it.  (Please oh please?)
