What to do with ❦❦ The Fruit Loop ❦❦ Route?

I got a beautifull street full of fruits ripe for harvest, but when I went to apply for a spot in the Fruit route from the "Housing Resources Routes" group I find that is closed to new members.

Upon further reading I discovered that the reason is:

***Attention all:  I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but the Route is becoming nearly a full time job due to a few participants not following the guidelines.  You have no idea how much of a mess it can create.  It sounds simple, but its not.  If you are unable or unwilling to follow the route guidelines, I respectfully request that you think twice before joining the route***

I would like to know if it is possible to help with this in some way, I understand that this kind of job could be overwhelming and somethimes ungrateful (all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, am I right?) but the routes deserve better than be closed because they are hard to be mantained.

Is there any kind of help I can offer? Part time curator maybe?

  • I'm part of the MERL set of routes and we might have need of one more fruit street. Drop a line to Just Willow.

  • Hi Mikah--

Thanks for your concern.  That is actually an excerpt from my Fruite Route post in the HRR group and was put there  as an appeal to current members to follow the few guidelines that the loop has.  The fruit loop was not closed to new members due to maintenance difficulties.  We as curators found that once we hit 30, 40, 50 members in one route that the people at the end of the route weren't getting visitors.  As a result, some of us decided to cap the routes (and, certainly, open it back up to new members as old ones left).

As for any current issues there might be with the Fruit Route, they're actually unrelated to any difficulties maintaining.  As I have recently resigned my position, the route is currently undergoing a curator change so there may be some temporary bumps in the route.  The route is certainly still available in the meantime but you may run into a snag or two.  I ask your continued patience while they complete the curator transition.

  • When a player sets up their street for a harvest route, that may mean they forego making use of the street in other ways -- so it can be discouraging if there are few visitors. As Soupie said, once a route becomes long, most people do not visit all of it.

Case in point: As I was one of the first to sign on to the fruit route, my street is now at the very end.  As the route grew, I got fewer and fewer visitors. It got to the where I was getting no visitors on most game days -- until I also became part of the Serious Routes.

  • So a couple of things - the route is in transition at the moment to a new curator.  Look for a new route thread in the next day or so.  Soupie, as always, has done yeoman's work in getting things to this point.  We will miss her as a curator immensely.
Second thing is that we are in the final stages of getting the routes portion of our HRR website ready for launch.  When that happens, there will be ways to get on the route that will be more random, so that route users won't necessarily always be starting at "the top" of the route.

  • i'm not sure I get this.  If the route is a loop, as I would imagine it to be, then it's trivial for the "start of the route" to change to different players as time goes on, isn't it?

  • WalruZ--while it's true that the nature of a loop has no beginning or end, a lot of people tend to start with the curator.  As a result, the further someone is ahead of the curator in the loop, the less visitors they tend to get because people get tired of changing streets and/or get all the resources they need and stop mid-loop.

  • Having the curator be a one-way path into the loop would allow the "start" to rotate. This would allow the loop to get more equal use, along with being able to quickly jump past a broken section [by pointing to the subsequent working street]

  • That's a feature we're attempting to implement on the new route website interface!

  • That's great to hear... I'm a happy member of the the fruit loop (and Soupie has been a fantastic curator and will be missed) and look forward to continued visitors/new loop additions!

  • I suppose my point is that starting with the curator is arbitrary.  Can't you just publish a "start point" that changes each day?

  • WalruZ - a couple of issues exist with that, not the least is because route users enter the route in different ways.  But we are trying to get something very similar to what you are suggesting working on the new HRR Routes site.

  • Thanks for all the answers, I really look forward to be part of the routes again.

  • Just an fyi, the new curator (she will shortly announce herself, I'm sure) was in my route, and before she could take over, I had to get her removed.  The person pointing to her never responded or changed her sign -- it's happened before where that person was on vacation, so I tried to give her some time.  But today was about the two week point so I had the next person up route around and free the new curator.

So that should be all moving forward quickly now.
