I agree that it is way too easy to overfeed piggies. However, that said...
Switching the default for all interactions from ALL to ONE does not really solve the larger problem*. There are plenty of options where ALL is a good default. For example: When dropping a stack of something in my home, I really do want to drop all of the items, not just one of them.
There are a lot of different contexts that are all receiving the same menu right now, and I hope that TS looks into changes that are context-sensitive. Another example: no-no. TS already addressed this this with no-no and switched the menu so you can only sniff one at a time, which makes more sense than ALL or ONE being defaults with multiple numbers also being an option. You can only sniff one at a time, so no need to offer other options!
*You could make the argument that it would prevent a lot of needless piggy overfeeding and that other inconveniences that would come along with the changes would be worth it. I'm not sure I agree, but to each their own.
Staffer Araldia has apparently mentioned this to some devs after I casually mentioned in Global Chat that this was my particular flag-waving "cause" and major source of irritation in Glitch. It was nice of her to take an interest in my gripe. I have no idea if anything happened or will happen after that.
(FWIW, when I donate, I use Favor Saver, so I do not usually want to donate just one OR all, I want to donate a specific amount.)
Context-sensitive menus would be great, or even an "are you SURE you meant to click "ALL" just then?" box, but I think that more costly and frustrating errors happen when accidentally selecting "all" than happen when selecting "one".
Perhaps when donating, the default can remain "all" with an "are you certain?" prompt box.
Picking up stuff: ALL OF THESE default
Dropping / giving / feeding stuff: ONE OF THESE default
Heck, an "are you sure?" box after selecting ALL OF THESE would resolve a lot of issues that changing the default to ONE OF THESE would also address.
I've done my share of feeding 160 meats to a single batterfly (still only 3 guano, the cheap little...)
It ticks me off, but I figure it's part of the risk of collecting from them. I never feed pigs by hand. I just drop grain one at a time on the ground and they never go hungry!
I've never done that mainly because I'm not that impatient that I bash the enter key...well except for chickens, cause I just spam the enter button for them.
FWIW, I am very careful when feeding, etc., but surprise lag still caused me to feed an entire stack of planks to a batterfly the other day. Instead of the 40+ guano I intended to collect, I only got three...which was extremely annoying.
