Large, overarching storylines?

Hi all! I'm relatively new to Glitch, having joined about two weeks ago. That said, I spent my first week immersed in the game. There was so much to do! To learn! To explore! I was logged in for HOURS every day!

Now, though, I find myself stalling out. I just finished five days of working on Better Learning V (I've already got 41 skills), and the next five skills I want to learn will take at least 15 hours each, some as much as two and a half days. So the magic rock doesn't really have any new skill-based quests for me when I log in.

For a while, I gave myself my own quests: get completionist badges (I've now got 14), get and spend all the emblems, buy a house, sell stuff in auctions, etc. But now that I've done all those, I find myself with a sense of ennui. I know the game is supposed to be freeform and open, but it's precisely that openness that leaves me feeling the lack. Yes, I *could* go into the game-world and do more harvests, put them on auction, and get currants... but for what? There's nothing I want to buy. I could cook, but I rarely want for energy anymore. I could donate, but I really don't need to get any more emblems to be happy.

I'd love to see some large, overarching projects/goals that players could contribute to when they've got nothing else to do. I read that street projects are sort of like this, but I haven't seen a single street project in the two weeks I've been playing. I think it would be really neat to see an ongoing storyline where the Glitches prepare to invade the Rook's home, for example. (Weeks 1-2: gaining intel; Weeks 3-4: gathering supplies; Weeks 5-6: preparing the weapons; Weeks 7-8: planning logistics; etc.) Or maybe a storyline where one of the Giants is starting to wake up and the Glitches need to figure out how to keep them sleeping.

Really, I'd just like a fun, goal-oriented reason to log back in. Because for the next 14 hours, I don't have one.

Cheers,
Julie

  • "some as much as two and a half days"

Just wait until you go for Mining IV, two days will seem like an hour.

  • agreeing with everything Pocket Bard has said. As to buying a house and growing a crop, been there done that. Watching crops grow is about as exciting and interactive as waiting for my rock to learning a skill.

  • I like the idea of bigger storylines, even if those are simply expansions of the mythology and not necessarily story-led play. It'd be nice to have more of a sense of history to Ur, particularly since the trees no longer talk to you like they used to. The Rook Museum is still a current quest and there are little hints- the firefly-whistle quest with the Church of Alph poster, the broken statues in Groddle, the Ancestral Lands' golgi apparatus, mitochondrial DNA and globules, Gwendolin and the Forgotten Glitch, etc... but it'd give the game an extra layer to it to expand on that stuff and give more back-story/front-story (as in the case of the firefly whistle poster I mentioned).

  • Feeling the very same way already.  I have no quests, I am nearly stocked on everything imaginable, and I make so much stuff just to auction it to have something to do.  I have the 50k house I am getting bored and considering canceling my subscription just because now it isn't nearly as much fun as it was.  I find the concept of free range glitching interesting but still need more fun and it seems like it is running out.  Give  us something to do otherwise this is just a fancy chat room with furry and cute Avatars.
