Dont impose your set of rules on my rule making set

Time for a meta thread methinks.

All this talk about rules, and who is imposing what rules and how.
I thought maybe a satirical reflective post was due.

Please people dont make rules about what rules i can make up.
If its wrong for me to make up rules about how you play its wrong for you to make rules up about how i make rules up.

  • Sorry I am missing the point...There are guidelines to this game....that's it *shrug* GUIDELINES.  Why are we all imposing rules on each other??  And then in turn, upon ourselves?

  • For some reason (maybe the coffee hasn't kicked in yet), this really made me think of George Carlin's bit of the revised commandments which boiled down to:

"First: Thou shalt always be honest and faithful to the provider of thy nookie.

And second: Thou shalt try real hard not to kill anyone, unless of coursethey pray to a different invisible man than you."

Full bit can be viewed here (there is some NSFW language in the clip): www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-R...

  • :) Sacred Bob. Reminds me of a thought I used to have about Universalism (the religion, I was raised Unitarian Universalist). The form of universalism that says all the religions are right, and none superior to the other... isn't that still a way of saying my religion is more right than yours, if your religions says that some or all of the other religions are inferior??

  • What if your rule imposes on the rules that are created to specifically prevent creating rules that impose on other rules?

  • What we need are rules for making rules -- including, of course, a rule against making rules. (Alfred Tarski, we need you here.)

  • *imposes rules upon your rule-making of rules that restrict the rule-making of rules relating to the rules corresponding to rules that precede the rules similar to rules about piggies*

    FACT.

  • Splendora you just made my day, a name checking of Tarski in the Glitch forums points earns you a gazillion Sacred Bob points.

Excluding the Hairy Ball Theorem, the Banach-Tarski Paradox is my all time favourite pieces of Maths.

  • There are only three rules that truly matter.

    1) A glitch may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
    2) A glitch must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Rule.
    3) A glitch must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Rules.

Our avatars will eventually become sentient. Best be prepared!

  • +1 Singularity. (However, there was a short story where a candidate, suspected of being a robot, 'disproved' the theory by striking another 'man' who dared the candidate to punch him - thus breaking the First Law. The investigator later mused that this *could* have been possible if the accuser, himself, had been a robot ...)

  • Is it possible for me to have a "toggle" to "hide" all of the forum posts about rules, rule making, rule having, rule not having, unrules, zombie rules, ruling authority, ruling parties,  and even about rulers (glitch, human and wooden alike)

It seems like a simple feature to add.  (wink wink to the Devs)  please implement this now its ruining my immersion.  (insert some statement about the inevitable loss of player base if this is not implemented)
