What I'm going to miss most about my old house.

The melancholy beauty of the heights and the music of the highlands. Just not diggin' the relentless banjos in the test house. But who's to say this won't change when we're out of test. So my fingers are crossed--lovin' my new house otherwise. How about you?

  • I will miss how organized my house was. Neat and tidy. Never will my house be the same.

  • I'm going to miss the different rooms my swamp house had, made for more natural organisation, especially with the additional machines than need bolting to the floor.

  • Yes, I'm going to miss rooms as well, hoping that these will be implemented someday.

  • I'm going to miss the optical illusion of looking like a giant glitch about to stomp on the cliff across the bay in my 50K beach house in Salatu. (This is achieved by jumping up on the balcony railing and edging forward until it looks juuuust right--you'll no longer appear to be standing on the railing, but rather on the sand of the beach at the foot of the cliff.)

  • 1st The look of the 50k house. I know alot of people hated it. (but i liked it)
2nd I agree with Ruby Specklebottom, The Balcony and jumping from it.
3rd The storage closet. If i am able to make a scrolling unlimited storage closet. I will be able to get over this one.
4th My old house. I worked hard to get my house. (you cant do anything about this, i understand, but i still regret having to give up my old house)

  • I will miss the "lobby" of Boan Stravenue Villas, and the dear little shelf found there.

  • Yeah, I really love the calm simplicity of the $50k houses. And the balcony. And the roof garden--and jumping off the edge and landing softly.

  • everything Axa said.   If I could have just added a barn out by the pig pen to hold all my veggies and rocks and machines it would have been perfection.

  • I'm going to miss the trees in my backyard. I own a cottage with 5 patches for trees and I live at the end of a block with an additional patch, so I was able to have almost one of every type (except egg and paper). The only time they've died and had to be replanted was by poisoning for quests. The lifespan of the trees in r2 seems way too short in comparison.

  • I'm going to miss the old housing themes, sad to see them not (all) transfer over.

We might get them later, dunno. lol

    Maybe when we have basements

  • I have enjoyed 4 homes in the quarters:

Treehouse in Groddle Forest:  I miss the deck on top and the beauty of the trees.  Today I have a Forest background at my new house.

Alakol 30K house:  This was roomy but stark.  It could have used some of the decorating options we have now.  I miss the large yard, the gardens and most of all the Animal Pen!

Apartment in Kalavana:  This was tiny and cramped but I enjoyed the easy access to Bogs and all they had.  I have a bog, fireflies, jellis and barnacles at my new Test house.

Cottage in Bortola (my current and last house in a Quarter):  This house is small with little storage so I appreciate the SDBs.  I will miss my 5 trees very much.  I have expanded my yards in the Test house but cannot plant as many trees unless i give up some of the other features.  It seems that we will be unable to plant trees as close together as they are in the old Quarters.  I will miss the close proximity to the Gardening Vendor.  Maybe I will have this again once the housing is ready and the Quarters are gone.

I have almost completed my move to the new house (hope I'm not sorry about jumping the gun).  I found it too hard to tend two houses.  I am enjoying the new house more each day and look forward to what may come.  Thanks Devs!

  • The climbing! The possibilities to hide stuff from sight! Fireflies inside!

But who knows what else will come... xD

  • Location, location, location! The Meadows is close to everything I want or need, and I really like having five trees in the back yard. On the other hand, the decor in my Meadows house is getting very tiresome -- I bought it only to be close to friends -- and I'm enjoying the test house and all itsany possibllities very, very much.

  • Im gonna miss being able to just pay currants for a certain style and moving on to living there.
I'm gonna miss the lengthy lifespans and the fact my plots never died.
Im gonna miss being able to walk out and walk next door to a friends house
Also random neighbors that I didn't choose, I just got to meet.
Im just gonna miss it =(

  • OH Ruby, I am so going to miss that daily morning jump from the balcony into the garden too!

I loved that. Always left my Glitch standing on the balcony looking at the fruit tree and the wonderful view.  I will miss that a lot.

Hope we can re-create it some time.  I was at RM's house yesterday and that is what I want!!!
    NOW please!

I am confident we will get much more good stuff in future, though, lots coming up by the look of things.

Also want the Highland music back, those banjos are driving me crackers!

  • Yeah. I loved the random neighbors, too. In all my neighborhoods. First was an apartment. Traded up for a cottage in Bortola. Great neighbors in Ukon Cognate! Moved to Khoul Bheens in Salatu for the name. Equally wonderful neighbors. Now on apaisi Massey and it's a little lonely since everyone is waiting for the switch.

  • I loved jumping out of my swamp house to get to the street.  I loved my fireflies twinkling in the corner.  I loved jumping (or falling) thru the holes in my floor to get to where I wanted to go.  Can we have holes in the floor of new houses like at the firehouse :-)

  • Nothing.

And except for "climbing" and "balconies," the latter of which has been suggested will be available eventually, most of what I read here actually reiterates the problems with the system.

It's great that some people like their neighbors, but many don't even have neighbors any more, and no way to free up those permanently occupied homes.  It's great that some people love their location, but that just led to disappointed players who did not love their locations and demanded more and more and more housing be released.

And then there's stuff in here that no one is actually going to miss.  Like rooms: those will be a launch feature, so if you miss them, well, it will be your own fault for not creating them.

    Change is good.

  • I have already moved and sold.  I don't really miss my Alakol house.  They always seemed so sterile looking to me and I have had a blast decorating my new house.  I believe that Bees said that balconies will likely be available in building our new houses.  I sure hope that pens will be an available add on as well.  I'm not crazy about the sticks.

  • I'm not going to miss it. I never liked having a bog house, but I needed the herbs :/   Ah well, now I can change it however I want, as long as it's free!

  • I'm going to miss the way my bog house looked, and the way that barnacles and fireflies were just -there- and you don't need a special box for them. I don't like the way they look in the test houses, unless you'll be able to build them into your houses eventually?

Edit: also ladders. I love ladders, hate lifts. And my little rooms. I hope all these become things I can do eventually, because I really, really don't like how the test houses look at the moment.

  • I love all my little rooms of my bog house. The chickens that would get themselves stuck in my "attic" was a little annoying, but at the same time, gave my house character. Goofy chickens...

  • I got a key to someone's bog house during the herb wars--he was kind enough to make the offer and I am so happy I took him up on it. I loved dropping down that chute and climbing the ladders--and jumping off his balcony. Ilmenskie Jones still wanders up and down his steps.  You know, change is good--we would eventually all get bored and it wouldn't be fun any more if it all stayed the same. So I'm all for the new stuff. But that doesn't mean I didn't like the old stuff. I loved it. And I'm going to miss it. I was glad to see I'm not alone--others love this stuff, too--and it was nice to read about what they enjoy about the way it is presently but won't be for much longer. I'm definitely looking forward to the new version. But not because I thought the old one was bad. I'm looking forward because each iteration is really neat.

  • I will miss looking at a street on the map and thinking "home" - I liked that player homes were integrated into the world in such a meshed way. "Home street" is great, I love the new decorations and all of that, but housing basically exists in another dimension of the world. I will miss neighborhoods that are actually part of Ur, in a way that you could see on the map, integrated with it. That was what I said I'd miss when the housing changes were announced, and now that I've seen what new housing looks like, if I was given a choice I'd keep the old house just to keep the integration. I didn't mind having to leave my house to harvest resources, or travel from region to region to get things specific to them. That was all part of the charm, really.

The streets of Ur were largely abandoned after new housing was released - most folks stuck largely to resource routes. I rarely passed anyone at all after the new housing release, maybe one or two people if I was mining. It was a little eerie to have Neva Neva entirely to myself on a consistent basis.

The easter egg hunt brought people out. Wine of the Dead brought people to Cebarkul, as did Zilloween. The wine of the dead rush at Cebarkul recaptured some of the social energy of Original Glitch, but that's one street and a still somewhat novel resource - Cebarkul will remain a gathering place (and omg, the lag and crashiness) for events, but...

The new animals have brought people to the new areas. But I think what will never be recovered is the daily social buzz of street traffic, the fun of seeing all the unique Glitchlings running around the streets, passing strangers, having Local Chat convos, meeting players so frequently in the world. I think many parts of Ur will be virtually abandoned as people stick to their existing friend and resource routes and signposts, and venture into the world only to go to Cebarkul or to get something from animals. New players will quickly learn to do likewise.

So. New housing is prettier, yes. Better? Really better beyond the level of potential cuteness customization? No, I don't think so. Personally, I think it ended up being a pretty big step away from the core mission to foster greater social activity between players. I'm not sure why it wasn't anticipated - I get the sense that the devs are often a little surprised by player resourcefulness when it comes to developing strategies for efficiency and maximization, and are generally more than willing to nerf whatever they need to nerf to "balance gameplay" - but how can they nerf signposts? There's no way to nerf the resource routes and the isolationism caused by the new housing without completely privatizing the housing streets, thus forcing players to go back into the world, where they used to play.

I'm not recommending that at all. I liked the resource routes quite a lot - I leveled like a rocket because of the resource routes, and started making TONS of badges thanks to the resource routes making it so much easier to play for resource gathering/crafting/accomplishments (badges, XP). I just think it may have taken TS by surprise. It's not like they built that whole world and all those streets just so new housing could basically supplant them.

Sure, some people will proudly state that they continue to play for maximum aesthetic weegles and minimum efficiency, but I think the devs probably have access to stats that would bear out what I'm saying.

  • I moved out of my old place and started living in the /home house just after R2 was released, and whilst I initially missed the ladders and cosy charm of my boghouse, I now find the new house far better and don't miss it at all.

In the new house I can individualise rooms to my own taste and create rooms to the size I want.  I can also just flit between the greater world and my house and back again with ease, which enables me to easily pick up things that I may need or enables me not to have to carry around tools such as  the cauldron, loomer and spindle. I can just return to my house, use the tools I need, then back out again to the same street that I needed to use the item on. I also like that I can have both herb and crop garden beds and have pretty much abandoned my alt now. So in short, I find that the new houses provide an ease of play and a greater ability to make my house my own than any of the other older style houses.
