Game slow and jumpy

I've noticed that as soon as I move into an area with multiple other people in it, the game gets veeeeeery slow and jerky.  It makes it difficult to move, time jumps, select actions; the screen will freeze, and then everything will move very fast in the direction it was going, as if trying to catch up.  This culminated last night in my entire Firefox browser hanging for 5 minutes after I tried to just close the tab.  Is this just an issue of too many new players?  I never had this problem during beta testing, but it's been consistent since the game launched back up.

We can handle and welcome more players! :)

The browser hanging after closing possibly indicates that it was taking a long time releasing memory as it was shutting down- so RAM was likely getting full. We suggest only running the game in your browser, nothing else, not a bunch of other tabs open. (You can't avoid it when clicking some objects and menus in the game of course, but close them when you are done.) Close and restart the game once in awhile (it really depends on different things like memory you have, speed of processor, so there's no specific suggested interval). But, we do monitor performance constantly and work to improve it.

  • I'm having a terrible time with lag also, just in the last two days. So bad that I usually stop playing after a few minutes. Is there some way to lower the graphics setting in my game? Or wouldn't that help. I haven't been playing with anything else open, so thats not the answer in my case, and its just started in the last couple days. I'm not getting unusual lag in anything else I play, including SL, which is notoriously laggy.

(sorry for bump, but I didn't want to open a duplicate issue)

  • I have noticed a slight slowdown when I am running 4 or 5 instances of Firefox, Godzilla vs. Megalon in MPC, a couple of Open Office documents (spreadsheet and word processor,) the FinalFantasy XIV full client (for my bazaar,) a couple secure telnet instances, winAMP on standby mode, and LotRO's launcher in the background.

I blame Megalon (Megaro) for the lag XD!

All joking aside, I have noticed that there does appear to be some memory issues with the client in heavily populated screens.  When mining the other day with 20 - 30 random glitchen on the screen all doing something, my pick was very, very, very (slower than Mining 1) slow.

As kevbob said though, closing the client and restarting (which I do accidentally about a gazillion times a day anyway) cures the problem for quite a while.

  • I was having the same issues on all browsers, and it seemed to get much worse as I played for a while.  I ended up downgrading to version 10.3 of Flash from the version 11 Beta and I've been having a much better experience, fewer slowdowns and much less jerkiness when trying to control jumping ect. Using OSX 10.6.8 and Safari (although Firefox works just as well)

    Hope this helps anyone.
