Comment: Auto Mood % over Portrait is distracting

Just noticed that your mood % now automatically flashes when you enter a new street or do anything that affects mood (e.g., mood drops due to natural entrophy or mood increases from collecting a quoin or petting, etc.)

You can always ignore it, but gets distracting fast- specially when you're exploring and switching streets often, and the seemingly-random ones that occur as your mood drops is particularly hard to tune out. I liked the old way better, when you only get the % when you hover over portrait.

  • I like the new way, sorry, and I wouldn't want it changed back

  • A lot of people thought that mood had stopped existing entirely when it was displayed only in portrait form unless you hovered; that automatic cycling makes the mood indicator much easier to understand.

  • Well, I'll be the dissenter here - that drives me insane.  I can't stand it.  It is extremely distracting - every time it flashes I automatically look there.

  • I see both sides of the argument, but I'm enough with Melisande that I really wish for another alternative.

  • I prefer the new way.  I find the portrait a little difficult to read as to whether I'm over 90%.  This makes it easy.

  • Im with the OP; I prefer not to have it flash.  Isn't that what the background and the face you're showing is for?

  • I'm going to give it a bit of time to see whether my feelings about it change, but at present I think I preferred it when the indicator didn't flash. I found it pretty easy to see simply by mousing over my portrait and reading the %age when it popped up, versus the flashing notification we see now every time mood drops. Let's see how I feel in a couple of days...

  • I have to agree with the OP here...it's minor, but I really don;t like it to flash every time I do something that affects my mood...gardening this morning was kind of annoying...felt like those flash ads on poorly designed websites <blinking> "You've Just Won! This Is Not A Joke!"</blinking>

  • I like the new way better....now I don't have to calculate in my head :)

  • @Pickle Bob...Except you wouldn't have to calculate in your head. The info was right there already in the new system--all you had to do was move your cursor over your portrait in the upper left and it showed you the percentage.

I agree that the new system is superior to the old one (pre-last Thursday), but since the new system was brought in, it's been further tweaked so the percentage indicator now flashes every time your mood changes by 1%. It only started doing this within the last day or so.

  • Sorry, I like the new changes! I can certainly see why it could get on people's nerves, but having the percent pop up as mood degrades/increases is spectacular for me. I easily lose track of time and reminding myself to check my mood is apparently impossible XD. Since your picture only changes below 90%, it's nice for the UI to tell me when I'm *close* to it before going under. That's why I like it :)

  • I like the mood bubble as it is.

  • I'm on the fence about this one. I really like that I can see my mood before it drops below 90% without having to mouse over, and I can usually tune it out when I don't need to be looking at it, but it does occasionally distract me, especially when it's just from the natural mood drops.

  • I definitely like the fact that the numbers are now displayed for mood when there are updates to it.  I found it annoying to either have to constantly park my cursor over the picture or switch from keyboard to mouse to see the numbers.  For those who find it so distracting, would it be be better if the numbers were shown toward the bottom of the circle, under the portrait, instead of replacing it?  Would that be a good suggestion for TS?

  • I suppose having a small %indicator under the portrait would be a good compromise, and it's similar to what we have with having both energy meter and the numerical display, so it would still be consistent with the UI.

  • The expression indicates your mood.
The color of the background indicates your mood.
Hovering over the portrait gives you a precise measure of your mood.

I like that it's all easier to find.

    But the flashing is awful.

  • I like being able to see the precise % number of my mood; that's the most clear "at a glance" indicator for me if I should drink something to increase my mood. The expression and color give a general sense, but it's too easy to misjudge between 89% and 90%, which can make a big difference in iMG.

  • We could have a smallish mood thought bubble with the actual percent in it to the left of the portrait.

  • I love the mood indicator — it makes it a lot easier to keep track of my mood while I'm mining (which is when i tend to let it get away from me).

  • I think it would be better if your face changed on your actual character to match the mood. They have the graphics done -- just add them to the actual avatar. Then you could walk along and see the mood everyone else is in, just like real life.
