Impossible Quests for Garden-less Homes

I'm not really sure how I feel about this, and it's not a huge deal in the scheme of things, but I'm looking for some persuasive comments in either direction. Also, I'm bored.

You know the saying about real estate and location, location, location. I just moved into a cool place that is only steps from the subway and one street away from the tower (which I hope, unlike the cake, is not a lie). The fact that it has no garden or patches is mostly fine with me.

However, I have no fewer than 3 quests that are impossible to complete given that garden-less fact (plant 50 onions in a private garden and 2 others that are private garden/patch related).

Part of me thinks this is acceptable, and that there is a challenge in having to move to different geographical areas to complete various quests. This leads to the other part of me that says - "Hey wait! There's no quests specific to those of use who seek the darker climes of Shimla Mirch or Jethimadh."

One solution would be to allow any garden related quest to be completed at a community garden, instead of a 'private' one. Or having the ability to plant in a friend's private garden/patch.

A second solution would be to add other region-specific quests to appease us non-garden owning peeps. I'd feel slightly better and others would feel slightly worse. :)

Yet a third option would be to say - quit your whining Joe Blow. If that's the case, a follow up request would be to have a way to permanently dismiss a quest. The 3 I have left are getting old, stale and moderately frustrating.

  • using the community gardens works to finish the gardening quests, although to be fair the potato-harvesting is a bit tricky.

the tree quest is impossible, true, and it would be nice if the rock only gave you this quest if you have a house that allows it, but ignoring quests doesn't bother me too much.

  • Ok, thanks for the info about the gardens. I'll have to check it out next test to validate.

So I guess that leaves me with one impossible quest. Or, as many quests as there are that are related to private patches/trees.

  • I too had this problem once. My first house did not have any garden at all, so it was rather puzzling to find a quest related to it. Eventually figured it out that some homes had gardens, and some did not. It just made me think that maybe some houses were optimized for certain skill sets, especially for skills on Gardening and Animal Kinship, as both seem to require the player have a house.

  • I kinda think the game should still give you that quest.

It has taken me awhile to get to the point where I can ignore/delay quests, but I'm there now. One of the point of the quests to me is to introduce you to new facets of the game. In this case, it's letting you know that you might like to upgrade your house. You can certainly choose not to.

Also, I"m not sure if this is still true, but in the past, you could complete the tree quest in a friend's house. Obviously, that requires the support of a good friend. But I don't think it has to be YOUR house.

  • As someone who once lived in Shimla Mirch (moved at the end the last test), I don;t have a problem withe this quest... BUT there should other quests that only can only be completed in those houses that have things different from garden-ed houses,

  • I agree with you JB, even though I live in Marrakesh.  Shimla and Jeth are just too dark for me, but I could understand the frustration with not being able to complete quests.  I think it would be a great idea to allow those quests to be completed in the community garden, or even in a friends garden.

  • I'm not really sure there's a good reason that the tree quest should need to be completed in one's home anyway.

If you were able to do it in a 'public" place, it might mean that someone else killed your tree before it matured, but at least you'd have a chance at completing it. (It would be harder w/o a house with plots, but only a bit, unless Briar & Co. are around.)

  • I agree with clare... I wouldn't mind having to do these quests in public spaces, if that were allowed.  If someone kills my trees, I just have to try a few more times. Tradeoff for having a house without patches.

  • That's how I did the tree quest when I lived in Gregarious Towers, a friend lent me her garden.
