Community Centre

It'd be great to have Community Centres around hubs in various areas (perhaps where the Subway Stations or Bureaucratic Depts are?) that have:

- A "Take One Leave One" donation space so you can donate and pick up things - perhaps pick up something random?

- Tools that you can use in the space, like kitchen or elemental equipment, so you can fill your bags with ingredients rather than tools

- Locker space

- General notice board with Glitch/Ur-wide announcements (would be great if things could be duplicated across centres)

- Fun in-centre quests, things to do, people to interact with (maybe yoga classes with the frogs to increase mood? Quests that involve talking to other people?)

- The calendar and all maps

  • I wanted to suggest something along these lines, but taken a little further. I'm still not sure how to express the idea without charts and graphs, so bear with me.

I think the various housing areas should become towns. When you enter through that main signpost, you come to a community center like the one suggested above, except that it is player-built. Provide a few community buildings and let the players decide what they become. This can also key into player-created quests, which I'd seen suggested in the General Board but haven't seen here yet.

Anyway, it can be taken a step further and tied into the bureaucracy skills by having it actually run by the players and some sort of political system in place. Maybe it regulates the number of animals in the common streets. Maybe it dictates the type of trees. Maybe there are rules that you have to hug everyone you meet. That's for the devs to think about.

I've seen this sort of player-run community system before and found it pretty successful, and think it would work very well in Glitch.

  • I like where you are taking this - it builds onto the world-building! Not just physical, but social too. Now that there are community groups forming (bank, housing committee, markets, etc) this could be a good place for them.

I've noticed a few professional skills-people around, and I'm personally testing out a fortune cookie business, so it would be great to be able to provide advertising (even if it's like "HELP ME MOVE").
