More places for Gas and Spice Trees

There has been a back and forth between gas and spice trees recently due in part to the limited zones that they can be placed in, along with they can be placed in almost all of the same zones.
I propose
1) a small region that only allows gas and a small region that only allows spice. Each totalling in like 20 trees split between like 4-5 streets.
2) Let gas and spice trees be planted in some of the same zones as bean and fruit trees. Like say Besara which has a couple gas trees left over from when they could be planted there if I was told correctly.. (Actually went to kill fruit trees to replace with gas trees to be surprised that I was unable to plant the gas tree. very sad).

Any other solutions or propositions people have more than willing to hear and listen to differing opinions.

  • There use to be Gas available in Besara, but I found out today that is no longer the case. The gas-spice dispute will continue.

  • can anyone tell me where I can find a gas tree still? I need one for a quest and there are none in Ix that I've found and I don't know where else to look.

I think either of these ideas are good ones. It would really help.

  • I have tried to plant another gas tree in Besara because there used to be two but now have been replaced with yet more bean and fruit trees. But when I try to use my seed it says that a gas plant bean cannot be used there. I purposely got my Botany skill to try to get more rare trees out there. I live on Yuca Litt and have planted a Wood tree, spice tree and a gas tree in my back yard because they are so hard to find (or get to)..... I planted a Wood tree in out in public area in Besara and one glitch destroyed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost made me quit the game. Shame on them!

  • Yes, right now according to Zog there are only 137 gas/spice trees and 823 bubble/bean/fruit trees.  We really do need more gas/spice spots.  I'm hoping maybe a future street project will give us another Ix-like area.

@Marshalton, if you still need gas for a quest, go to Jethimadh or Kalavana.

  • I haven't seen a group that specifically does this, but there could do with a "forestry commision" being set up.  The areas viable for each tree are surveyed, and a comprehensive plan to make at least one area of monoculture for each tree drawn up i.e. say Ix is designated as spice only, then shimla mirch becomes gas only, etc.  These areas of mono culture should be kept away from newbie spawn points, so that newbs can pet/water a variety of trees.

Once the plan is drawn up, a methodical killing/replanting campaign could be brought in.  I don't suppose that people would mind too much so long as there was an area somewhere where one particular type of tree can be harvested in large numbers with a few streets.

How does the plan sound? This would be a community driven solution to the problem, rather than relying on the devs.

  • ningo, that totally ignores the fact that Ix is much more convenient for some people.  Shimla Mirch is quite difficult to navigate because it requires a lot of jumping and climbing, while Ix requires absolutely none.

Why make it almost impossible for some players to harvest gas because a small handful of other players have decided to become griefers who remove every tree that doesn't match their master plan?

  • I see two problems with your idea, ningo: the first is that some people (like me!) really prefer mixed trees to monoculture, both for aesthetics and because when areas are mixed wandering about gives a balanced mix of resources, rather than a surfeit of one thing.

And the other is that the glitch community is too large and diffuse for these sorts of quasi-governmental "community" solutions to work.  Most glitchen don't read the forums.  Even if they do, they won't necessarily give input to the regulatory effort of the week (these things have been proposed before), and even those who've chimed in to the discussion won't necessarily accept any conclusions reached as valid.  Even if one managed to reach a point where the majority of players accepted the forestry commission as a valid authority, there would be no way to enforce its decisions -- even a small group of griefers or just independent arborists could keep the Spice Wars or the Bubble Battles or whatever going.
