How bad do you think the real estate market will be?

So, I had recently purchase a home in Shimla Murch, a beautiful 3-story 10k home with herb garden, egg tree too boot! The issue is, I don't see myself making 10k quickly at all, so I'm really frightened that all the houses will be bought by the time I get to 10k! Mind you, I'm not looking to purchase my exact home, I just finally got to move into one of my dream homes, and I would like to again.
Which leads to my question...do you think the real estate market is going to be crazy? everyone trying to buy back old houses and get the best/newest ones as fast as possible? All this skill tree talk has me frightened!

  • I refuse to be rushed this time. I am going to take it easy & live out of my bag(s) for a while. I had a tiny crap apartment for ages and then saved enough for a decent house (8k - I didn't get to play a whole lot). Someone had just vacated it & it had every type of tree possible and some animals so it was a pretty sweet setup. I think there are also benefits to waiting a bit longer until some glitchen move on up.

  • it won't be.

the devs'll add more houses as necessary. that has been their past behavior anyway.

.. at least until the "quarter grid" is used up, at which point the real estate market may or may not go crazy.

    you'll be fine.

  • There will be roughly the same amount of people playing this test as there were before reset, so there's no reason to believe that we'll run out of houses. And I think stoot said that the game will stay invite only for a bit, so we shouldn't get overcrowded too soon. I'm sure you'll be able to get your dream house again!

  • we're all going to be in the same boat at the start so it depends how much time people play for to get to a higher level quickly. I won't be able to put in huge numbers of hours so I guess I will get what house I can afford when I can afford it. I had a 50k house in Alacol so that will be my ultimate aim this time around too!

  • I don't think it'll be too bad, what you might find is that the cheap ones go quickly. I've heard a lot of people mention getting cheaper ones to keep their stuff in etc while they save up for the more expensive ones that they really want.

And I see it this way, even if the house I want isn't there I can always just buy a temporary one and watch the listings until the type I want pops up :) One thing I'm really thankful for is that the house prices don't work like auctions with people bidding. It means no matter how poular a house is, the price will always stay the same.

There are also probably plenty of houses to go around, and even more if they decide to add some :D

  • I'm not afraid, I think that the developers are going to add more properties as the houses get sold and also the world is still going to get bigger, so if a region is all sold out, you can still get a similar house in a similar region.

I started only a couple of months ago with Glitch, and there were already lots of players and I still was able to buy the houses I wanted.

  • Phew, thanks guys, you gave me some relief! Okay, well, hopefully I can get my home back, and hopefully I can wait until people more on up so my house will have a lot of nice stuff in it :) Eventually, I'd love to buy one of the 50k houses, but I think the 10k house is a good first base before I buy a veritable mansion.

  • "the devs'll add more houses as necessary."

Yes but will they add the house I *want*?  That's the issue.

  • Shmoopsy Poo don't sweat it! There is plenty of Bog Housing, especially with the new options in Kalavana.

I'll just add: Before the reset I lived in one of those 50K mansions until I decided to check out the Bog houses. I did lose some space, but for me the coziness of the Bog Houses and the overall design and feel of Shimla Mirch far outweighed anything I lost space-wise in Alakol. Aspiring to Alakol isn't a bad thing and I like that we can experience so many different regions/housing types. But unless/until they add other housing options in the swamps, a 10K Bog House is just perfect.

  • I started two months ago (almost to the day) and managed to snag a house in Alakol after owning three other homes. There were a lot of other players around, but there was still a good amount of housing available in many areas. You shouldn't have any problems getting a place in your preferred area:)

That being said, I hope I can at the very least buy a place on my old street if not the same house I had.

  • It would be very bad for TS to have people not be able to purchase the homes they'd like. Gotta keep the Glitchens happy. They'll add housing types as needed, no need to rush into it unless you're the kind of person who gets annoyed by having to click on a certain housing block, or walking all the way to the end of said housing block.

  • @ the OP - if you want a bog house this will be the easiest to move into even if there is a race. I am planning to move into Shimla Mirch again myself but I will take a smaller house first as the smallest bog houses are really cute and I've been dying to try them out! I'll upgrade when I get fed up of that and have a few more currants ;-)

I think it would be pretty easy to earn 10k currants though to get the house you want quickly. If you keep selling all your sellables doing quests to level up.

  • Think Positive !          Do not come from a position of fear..."there won't be enough houses. "       If you are a positive person the world is a bright place with endless possibities. Glitch is a true reflection of real life.

  • You'll be surprised at how easy it is to earn 10K, now knowing what you know.  Just think, you won't really be wandering around trying to figure out the basics (even if you don't quite remember exactly everything from the beginning), so it will be easier starting over.  And, as the others have said, if you are just looking for a style of home (and aren't trying for a specific house on a specific block), it should be pretty easy since the devs are good about adding more houses as others fill up.

Though I do have to say, it would be nice if they had a few more of those 10K bog houses, like they've done with the 50K ones (maybe a few blocks of just 10K bog houses), since nearing the end of the last test they were getting to be more popular. Though the 7K houses are nice alternate housing in case they are taken and you have to wait on either someone to move or the devs to add a block or two.

  • I'm still hoping for some 50k Groddle housing, or at least some other options for non-Firebog, non-modernist 50k housing =) I personally don't like them that much, and think the tree houses are pretty cute. That said, I'm planning to move to Aranna just for the change of scenery. And I think it's an up-and-coming area *grin*

I keep think it's Andara - too much monkey magic when I was young, most likely!

    +1 for napabeth's positivity, too =)

  • Before Alakol there was a shortage of the higher priced homes.  At the time I was living in a tree house in Groddle Forest.  I paid about 2,500 c for it.  When I bought that home (in April I think) I had really wanted a 5,000 c +/- home in the Meadows but they were all sold.  The only homes left were the lower priced ones and the apartments.  It was not until Alakol opened up that I could get a bigger home.  So, yes, I think it is possible that there might be a shortage of the mid-priced and high priced homes at some point.  However, there are also plenty of undeveloped housing blocks so any shortage will not last long.  The Devs will open more blocks and there will be new ones as more streets are added.

  • My Alakol house was a little "modern" although the view was spectacular. I've tried living in a bog house, but missed the gardens... wherever I decide to purchase will have to have a nice garden space and somewhere for the pigs :)

  • @TRC - I'm pacing right along with you. I love my graduate program, so even though I'm tempted, I'm not skipping class to play Glitch. I live on the East Coast, so maybe "soon" will work out well for me and my class time tonight.

As for houses, I'm going for a cheap one on Tallish Crest Quarter. I'd love one of the big ol' honkin' modern ones, but that's going to have to wait quite a while.

  • I imagine there were also TONS of folks who owned homes who don't actually play any more. So while they kept adding homes to meet the demand, we now have all those owned-but-not-really-occupied homes released.

The 50,000c houses also went so quickly because they were introduced after a lot of folks had been playing for a good long time so they had cash reserves.

  • stoot told Grammy over tea that he could make more house like *that*, and he snapped his fingers.  Nobody pulls the wool over Grammy.  So don't worry about housing, just do not worry your Glitchy head one bit.

  • Im excited about getting a new house .. i never moved after buying my mario themed house on Marrakesh Meadows.. great start house btw ! large cabinet and veggie patch with 5 tree patches all for 8k ! it was awesome and i loved it there but ill probably get a small tree house with my first couple of currants i can rub together and just save up to get a really big 50k house ..even though i dont like the modern look of them im hoping by then there will be more options for customization ..but those houses have my favorites views and the animals and the gardens are separate which is soooo nice since i love to grow and cook my own food. All in all im excited :D
