NOT ACCEPTABLE!!

I've been around Glitch for a while. And it used to be, that if you were close to a new level in the game, you could go buy some sno cones and eat them to level up.

Now, sno cones are expensive. I bought 10 purple ones...that's 10,000+ currants. And then I got pretty close to a new level, so I ate them.

And poof...not only did I NOT get any XP, but my mood went to 0. And I got some stupid message about Argh, Ulp.

HOW IS THIS EVEN REMOTELY ACCEPTABLE? To allow players to lose over 10,000 currants and not even TELL them that this isn't going to work any more? Good grief...it should at least WARN YOU, just like the shrines do when you go over your daily XP.

Look, I'm active in the forums and I read the changelog. But this is NOT in the changelog as far as I can tell. Most people aren't going to be as active as I am. They're not going to read the log every day. We need a warning, and now, before anyone else loses their money.

1) I want my money back (my currants.)
2) I want this to be fixed. NOW. By adding something that warns you that this is going to happen if you eat too many of them.

As it is, this is basically a giant slap in the face from Tiny Speck.

  • That's a lot of anger over some digital snow cones!!! Ask nicely and I'm TS will take care of you.

  • It's as if you spent real money on this stuff.  There are so many ways to gain XP, I don't really see what there is to be so upset about.
Just repeat over and over again...it's only a game...it's only a game...

I don't know that making angry demands is the best way to go about this.  It's a free game, they don't owe you anything.

I'm distressed at the amount of supposed adults who rant and rave like children over a free video game.  It's really embarrassing.

  • I experienced this too.... but my thoughts were...oooh darn..I should know better. Of course I will freeze with so much snow cones at once...hmm too bad.. learned my lesson..and went on my way :)

  • Snocones have worked this way for a long, long time.  It changed during beta.  You can only eat 3 per day.  Sucks you didn't know that, but 10k isn't really that much in the grand scheme of things.  Chalk it up to experience and move on.

Can you imagine trying to eat 10 snocones at once?  Your mood would be at 0 too!

this. it's a game! let's all breathe and relax.

  • Oh my goodness, Mackenzie. Breathe.

You got a brain freeze. That happens when you eat more than 3 a day. Now you know and won't make the same mistake. Lesson learned.

If you've been playing for that long, you'll know things change all the time around here. And you don't always get alerted. But honestly, they're pixels.

  • Things have been being nerfed so much recently - this isn't too big a change in the big scheme of things :)

  • @ Cupcake: Not only what you said but if Mackenzie changed the title to something more descriptive like "Don't eat too many sno cones," then future Glitches might see it and be spared the dreaded brain freeze.

  • If you eat them one at a time, there is a message after a few that says something akin to, "I would think carefully before eating another sno cone today...". However, I am surprised that you didn't receive credit for the first 3, at least.

  • Funny.  For someone that says they're very active in the forums, the only two times I remember reading the OP's name have been massive emo bursts splattering on my screen.

"Slap in the face" -- that's how you know this game is serious business.

  • Not just a slap in the face. A *giant* slap in the face. Get it?! Get it?!?!

  • Mackenzie, sorry you got a brain freeze. The harsh effects of too many sno cones eaten in a game day have been around for a while. Currently, we have a warning that lets you know you're at risk for a brain freeze after you've eaten 3 in a day, but we blanked on the fact that allowing people to down several at once meant they might never get that message. Our bad! We've changed things so you can only eat one at a time now, and no neuron will frost over without due warning.

  • Oooo...
If one donates more than three snowcones to a particular Giant, will that Giant get a brain freeze?
What do you think would happen if the Giants got a brain freeze?

  • Blanky - This is why I like this game, you guys didn't realize something like this could happen, that someone could eat too many sno cones and not get the warning, so you changed the game. The responsiveness from the dev's is what makes this game unique (in my opinion).

  • That is the stuff of legends. Once, long ago, Pot and Humbaba got into it over who could stand more pain, and there was a snocone eating contest. And the end result: let's just say that they may have had to reset everything. :D

  • I am humbled by the devs' calmness and lighthearted yet useful responses again and again - especially in the face of outbursts like these!  Wish I could learn a similar mindset.

  • Aww, Blanky's super-classy response made me smile.  <3 TS!

  • I'm a bit embarrassed reading that first post. Given the nature of this game, how could you not expect something like brain freeze? I wouldn't even eat 2 without caution, and shotgunning mots things probably shouldn't be done anyway, especially if it's your first time around.

  • Imagine that!  the devs changed the game so folks can't take advantage of a loophole and artificially speed up their XP gains!

    Gee.

  • Actually Mackenzie, TS did announce this :P It was added quite a number of tests ago in beta and it was put in the test notes. Sorry you missed it. If TS had an announcement/staff topics only section, I could dig it up for you, but they don't, so sorry :/

  • Mackenzie, you are taking this game way, way too seriously.
Posted 14 months ago by Helcat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hey now, it can be frustrating to lose a bunch of stuff you've worked for, I get it. Sometimes it's something we can and should fix, sometimes it's just an inherent risk you take by entering into a world where not everything works as you expect it to. In this case it was the former.
