Honestly

I think you guys are spending time in things that are just useless and material if I can call them that in a virtual world, really don't add any feeling to the game, the only thing new that is cool, is the old buildings and the little place inside the trees. This game has probably the best community I ever saw and you keep adding stuff that doesn't matter, let people play and have fun with simple things, that housing endless stuff makes me sick, I just want to play! I already have stuff in my home to take care! Don't really need more!
Stop it! just stop it! use the brakes!!!

People have fun with simple stuff, endless material stuff already exists in real world, no need to put it here, people don't really have fun with that, unless you guys are targeting some old ppl pockets, dunno, I prefer to think that you are just lost, things that are really cool is stuff like the comic book that lx, tis and others made, and look at the tools they used! no glitchr thing, no housing thing, no nothing, just simple old fashioned imgur and real imagination, thats how it was in the start thats how people had fun back then and thats how it should be...

Let people play! they want to.

I'm saying this because I care,

  • Perhaps that was not your intent, but an important lesson about communication -- intent does not convey.  Perception trumps intent.

You should really revise the idea that all gamers must be young people with similar tastes.

And a second lesson: a double negative means the opposite of what you intend.  You basically just wrote that you definitely insulted someone, possibly that you insulted everyone.

  • One of the things that has always intrigued me about the gameplay here is that I can tailor the experience (the time I put in) to line up with how I live out of game. Keeping the same standards and integrity intact. Not so easy to do some times.

I look at it as a big experiment in good stewardship. Making the most of what you have been given. Take the public street debacle as an example. Some want to privatize what in essence isn't their personal property and attain the resources for themselves. Others see it as an opportunity to use this provided space to be able to help others. I'm in the latter camp but would never push my own ideology on others, or deign to believe it is the only way to play.

My personal belief is that we are blessed so we can in turn be a blessing to others. Not for personal gain or glory, but because instinctively we know this to be right in our hearts. The ability to take what I have both in abundance and lean times and share with someone else makes me a happy Glitchizen. Meeting needs and having a serving attitude lines up with how I choose to live. It also reinforces my beliefs and inspires me to make a difference both in and out of game.

There was a time when social aspects and helping/sharing were the main focus (at least for me). Helping out with street projects, feeding others, radiating groups of folks to keep them at work. All enjoyed while in the company of so many wonderful people. Crazy thing is, there wasn't a whole lot else to do that kept me interested. But that was enough. The interaction and implied spirit of good will. Mind you this was just my perspective.

I don't need a million currants in my hands. I don't care if I ever possess a full set of dolls or cubis. I'm not driven by personal gain or wealth. Give me the chance to make someone else happy every day though, and I'm on point.

I have to take time to commend TS for due diligence in getting things right, and for their pursuit of excellence. For refining existing play, and not throwing things out half-done to meet public demand or some self-imposed deadline. The craft speaks for itself. The product as well.

We could debate endlessly on what our own expectations are. Our differences and chosen paths make us unique entities. Nothing wrong with voicing an opinion. It is how we exchange information and ideas are formulated. Somehow though, TS seems to exceed what I expect and shatter whatever limitations stand in the way.

  • Arizoo, you're not the only person allowed to hold an opinion. You posted your opinion on a messageboard as the opening post of a topic, the whole idea of that is for other people to come along and add their various opinions. What did you think would happen?

And then you say that seeing a few non-sweary, non-threatening, mildly sarcastic words on a screen, which indicate that some people, who probably live many, many miles from where you live, hold a different opinion to yours about a game is like being physically attacked with stones in a war zone?

If your grip on things is this fragile then it might be a very good idea for you to phone someone.

  • The thing about discussions like this is that we ultimately have no right to decide what makes other people feel insulted. It might not be what you intended, but it's still a valid reaction. You may not have specified anyone in your message, but players may read it and think "hey... I resemble that remark!"

Internet arguments suck because all we have are words - miscommunication runs rampant.

  • I question whether there was ever a discussion to begin with.

In general, Arizoo, the people I meet for whom English is not their first language actually want their grammar errors corrected and are grateful.  Most of them actually make less errors than native speakers though -- and they make errors specific to their root languages.  Tell me someone's native language, and I will tell you which errors I expect to see.  Double negatives are not allowed in any Western language that I'm aware of.  Did I mention I used to do this for a living?

But yes, if your point was to address Tiny Speck, it would be more likely to reach them if you didn't dismiss them as "old people," made the effort to actually spell out words like "people," and avoided errors that are generally considered signs of a lack of trying or caring, like double negatives.  All of these things make it incredibly unlikely that your post will be given respect.  If you care about your thoughts and ideas, care to express them properly.

Flip through these forums, and you will see a lot more complete sentences with proper punctuation than not.  Perhaps it's these pockets of old people mucking up your young person world.

  • Hey guess what?  While Arizoo whined that the game isn't exactly how he wants and then was surprised at how people reacted, I got a couple new badges, chatted with lots of different glitches, and had a fabulous time visiting home streets I hadn't been to before.  Thank goodness Glitch isn't linear or I'd have missed out on all the little left turns towards serendipity.  I guess that makes me old. :-)

The other (concise, considered and well-written) post is not only constructive and creative but also put forward with a good deal of emphasis on it being personal opinion.  I...well, I'm baffled as to how one goes from putting forward some really quite excellent ideas 29 days ago to the pitchfork-waving post at the top of this.

  • I haven't read all the comments but I get both sides.
For me, I just look at the numbers, back in the fall I had a subscription and there were always a butt load of friends logged in. For the past couple of months I've been without a subscription and the amount of ppl on my friends list who are logged in has decreased by 90%. So, clearly the OP isn't that far off...a lot of ppl have left or spend a lot less time here. Yes, I know, it's beta. But I too am bored and I'd assume that those who spend less time here feel the same.

  • Interestingly, I subscribed back in the fall and my friends list has been growing and been more and more active in recent weeks.  It's practically exploding.

I think a single person's friend list is not really a very good indicator of the popularity or vitality of the game.
Posted 6 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • No, it isn't.

I haven't been in game a lot lately, but I've been super busy in the real world. It's summer time; lots of people will be out and about and away from the computer (though lots will not).
Posted 6 months ago by Little Miss Giggles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • ahh, so then your exploding friends list and my declining friends list are irrelevant by that logic.
Posted 6 months ago by Hybie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not irrelevant, just insufficient data! ;)  But, yes, both are insufficient.  Most likely.  I mean, if you have 1K friends, it's probably a better indicator than my 90-some...

  • and I'm not talking about something i've noticed the past few weeks and it's not like I only have 10 ppl on my FL I have 224 ppl and I've noticed Ive barely seen them log in in the past few months, not like they use to. It's just what I've noticed, I'm not saying it means glitch blows chunks..i love this game. i'm just pointing out what I'm seeing.
Posted 6 months ago by Hybie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The reduction in population occurred throughout the beta.  The changes he is complaining about were recent and can't explain the reduction in population from six weeks ago, two months ago, three months ago, etc.  Most of the exodus seemingly occurred early in Beta Part Deux while waiting for changes, which is exactly the opposite one would expect if it were true that the game was fine the way it used to be and just plain illogical if the game is now "worse" than it used to be.

I think the interesting bit has been seeing people I don't recognize at the top of my friend list, meaning people I added way back in the fall that faded away but are now back.
Posted 6 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, all we can do is add what we're seeing, unless someone can point to some server collected stats.   And my point is also relevant in emphasizing that we only know what we see, and when your own friends list starts to seriously dwindle, you don't really have many people to talk to about it, either.
Posted 6 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • exactly, I know I still love the game and am sitting by patiently waiting for new quests and the end of beta. I don't log in as often and that is because I just don't have much to do at this time and I'm sure that will change. I'm hoping when beta ends ppl will come back.
I DID see an increase in numbers when the new housing system came out but now it's dying down again.
I too would love to see an official stat but some companies just won't do that.

  • A lot of people like to point that one out, as it is an error you will find me using.  Except I'm pretty consistent with never using "fewer" except in formal academic writing.

There are errors that change meaning, and then there are errors that are not necessarily errors but simply ignore traditional usages or ignore anachronistic exclusions in the definitions.  Nauseous/nauseated is another example.  One is worth pointing out on an internet forum; one is not.

I could actually dedicate an entire post with about 20 pages of writing on why "less" versus "fewer" is optional.  But writing it would bore the hell out of me.  I'll just continue to treat it as optional.
Posted 6 months ago by Red Sauce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • One might argue that "I never insulted no one" falls into the category of grammatical errors not worth pointing out on an internet forum, too.
Posted 6 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Look, just ... if you get annoyed by somebody that you think made a harsh comment, the solution is not to make even harsher comments.

Also, the universe hands out grief enough to every one of us, day by day by day by day by day.
Posted 6 months ago by Vocable Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You could make that argument.  But you couldn't make the argument that it didn't change meaning.  You also couldn't make the argument that "never . . . no one" is generally received the same was as substituting "less" for "fewer."  You also couldn't make the argument that I didn't already know the rule, and there's quite a few in PBMS that can back that up, as I just had this conversation about that error appearing in a blog post of mine.

But you couldn't argue that "never insulted no one" is generally acceptable conversational English.  And I can and do argue that using "less" is generally acceptable conversational English.  Hence why it appears in my blog, in forum posts, and in my creative writing.

I really, really, really do know what I'm talking about, and there is a difference.  I can start a thread in off-topic if you'd really like to talk about it.  But I don't think you do.  But if you're looking to trip me up, grammar is the last place you should start.  I know a lot, not just about modern usage, but about the history and evolution of modern usage.  I can even tell you which things they told you were rules in school that are not rules, which things even English professors will claim are against the rules yet are being published by major journals, etc.

The only thing I know more about is post-modern literature.  Avoid those, you'll do better tripping me up next time.

  • Wow! I find I myself wary of posting anything in the forums for fear of an attack from the grammar police. I like Glitch because it is a game that has the ability to appeal to many people of differing backgrounds, ages and personalities. It allows each of us to play in the way we find most enjoyable. Of course, my opinion may not matter since I certainly count as an "old person". Excuse me ....it's time for my nap!
Posted 6 months ago by Mostly Mellow Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Saucelah, actually, I was not so much trying to trip you up as I was trying to ironically (and way too subtly) perform an ad hominem attack maneuver on your ad hominem attack of the OP. Not that I agree with the OP. I just think it's unfair to focus on imperfect grammar rather than the content itself, and to suggest that no one at TS would care about the OP's opinion because she or he used a double negative.
