Subway?

If you click on the profiles of the developers, it seems that most of them have their "last seen in" on a subway system.

Thoughts? Personally I think it's much needed, as travelling around the world now is a bit cumbersome, and it only keeps expanding. Also, I can't wait to see the new area.

(Apologies to the devs if it was supposed to be a surprise, but really, you could do a better job of hiding it that that!)

  • Okay, well I actually emitted an audible gasp when I saw that. AWESOME!

  • Also, as a NYer, I say: needs more rats and graffiti.

  • As a NYer I say: needs LESS! Online gaming is all about escape, that's why I live in the clean mountain air of Tallish Crest :)

  • I agree actually. But then it should be shiny and sparkly and fast and without paint peeling.

(Does anyone remember the maglev in Riven? I pretty much thought that was the coolest thing ever.)

  • They announced it awhile back. It sorta expands upon teleporting.

  • I'm with Helcat...definitely gasped when I saw it. Sweetness!

  • i don't mind the urban decay at all, but what bugs me is how the two stations have the exact same cracks in the exact same places.

cloned stations would probably look better in a cleaner style. not so much that i prefer one style over the other, and more that one style reproduces less conspicuously than the other.

  • Ooh! I'm all a-quiver with anticipation...

[I was going to say 'all tingly' but I thought that might be a bit presumptuous]

  • Well, this certainly forestalls a posting of mine yammering about how much time must be spent hiking to here and there and how, as one gains in levels, this becomes tedious and distracting. I was going to suggest donning wings and flying through locations, but subways might be just lovely.

  • Oh my. That is WONDERFUL!

Got crabs? and Just Say NO NO....hahahahaha. And the grafitto on the real estate ad, so perfect.

But I'm embarassed to say: I don't get "In rod we trust."

  • Haha, just catching up with my subscriptions in google reader and came across the fuckyeahkukubee subway picture. Had to come straight here to see if people were talking about it! And, of course, they are. ( : Squee!

  • OMG this is just like the station I used to live near to in Queens.

    The ads...the grafitti...the uncomfortable-yet-blessedly-better-than-walking seats...

    *cry in joy*

  • I spent about 50% of this test inside the subway. I think it's the single greatest thing about the game so far.

  • Oh, just my luck. I clicked on the subway entrance and "poof!" rats.

  • I LOVE the subway. I was jumping about like a mad thing trying to read all the ads. LOVE IT. Yes to graffiti as well. There should also be someone/something on the subway either asleep or listening to music WAY TOO LOUD.

  • In Rod We Trust ..

Deep Space Homer is such a great episode. My favourite, even!

To quote the great Buzz Aldrin:

"You fool! Now we may never know if ants can be trained to sort tiny screws in space."

  • I realise that this may be hard to believe, but until about six months ago, I had never seen a single episode of the Simpsons...

  • My problem with the subway is that you had to wait around for two other people to board before the silly thing left the station. Sure, gypsy limos in New York work like that, but no subway in the world does! I would like it much better if the subway left at specified intervals, taking everyone who was waiting on the platform with it.

  • I think that the subway stations should have a different style for each area. For example, the Uralia station could be all clean and shiny, the Groddle Meadow station could be based off of an old-timey train station, and the Ix station... I'm not sure what that should look like. Could I have some suggestions for subway station styles? Especially Ix's station?

  • Ha, I'm sure the designer would make it *just* as trippy as the rest of his work, which is all *definitely very, very* trippy. www.chrisleavens.com/

  • i agree with Thrindos that different areas should have different station styles .. although i hope at some point players get to build stations and pick from a selection of non-realm-specific styles.

funny though, to me Uralia seems more psychedelic than clean - although psychedelic in a different way than Ix .. in Uralia i could imagine a floating blobby ticket dispenser and a platform covered with muppet fur like grass.

Hburger, see you in the sugar caves ; ]

  • I am hoping to see different station styles down the line.
Montreal commissioned artists for many stations back in the 60s and even New York has a few identifiable stops.
In the meantime, I'll be using the subway as a chance to meet other players as well as a shortcut.
    It will boost my mood.
