What are the rules of Community garden?

I was planting my herb in community garden, fertilize them with guano.  And a few people came by and start waiting together.. And eventually taken the grown herbs and i left with no flower and no seed. And when I message them, they said  you people should share. Not that I dont share, but taking without asking. Its not very nice.. :\

  • Yeah... there is a bit of drama in the community herb gardens lately.

There are no technical rules, but yes, I agree, that is very mean.

  • Some people in the community gardens seem to be much more interested in forcing other people to share, than with doing any sharing themselves.

Technically and "by the rules", players can pick up anything they find in this game -- but obviously that was a really crummy thing to do.

  • I usually msg people if they come to stand next to me after I've planted and been waiting with a "I'm just waiting for my herbs, you can use this plot when I'm done :)"..and most people will walk away.
This sounds stupid but you have to tell people that you're waiting (even though you are just standing there) for something and usually things work out okay.

Only rules I play by in the gardens are:
    - if someone is standing there, I assume it's theirs and walk away / asking before taking something if someone is there
    - replant after you harvest
    - if no one is near a plot I assume its up for grabs, then harvest and replant

Common courtesy and manners go a long way.

  • I do the same actually, usually ask and such... just got really annoyed when people grab and run and block you! XD

  • There are no rules.
    Move to the firebogs.
    Or alt-own a firebog house.
    Or make friends.
Tragedy of the commons in action.
Ergo: the alternative is tolerate some drama as others have suggested above.
Or privatize your herb garden. Own it.
All this is going to go away, I believe, from what I have read.
    New options are coming.
Anything you do right now is a coping strategy.
    Yes, mean people suck.
    But mean people exist.
Ergo, figure out a way around it so you can accomplish YOUR goals without having to worry about greedy amoral children.

  • There's also been some discussion lately about making an alt to own a house, so you have access to private herb gardens, and the Powers that Be have nixed that. So, I'd advise teaming up with someone else (friend or arranged agreement with another player, I believe some groups have formed for that) to get your herbs!

  • @Crashtestpilot Touché, although I would point out that alt-owning another house is against the rules now. Tragedy of the Commons assumes that all players are self serving individuals seeking to maximize their own welfare, which isn't strictly true for most players, though it doesn't take many for the community garden 'model' to break down.

  • After a while playing with people like that, I decided to get to a bog house. I know there are decent players who play nicely, but the mean ones are always there, waiting only to take. That's why I gave up on community herb gardens.

  • Stoots words 'Creating more than one character to play the game in a different way (e.g., another kind of persona, a different combination of skills, whatever) is totally fine with us. It can be fun!'So it isn't totally banned

  • Stoots rules on alts, keys, etc.

Please know that also according to the CG: Using bots, mules, or other hacks to gain significant and unfair advantage in the game is not allowed.

So making a character to just grow herbs is considered a mule.  Be careful what you do ;)

  • Really hoping this issue is resolved in the future. Right now the community gardens are basically unusable and herb prices are through the roof. :(

  • The thing that annoys me most about the community gardens now is that they force you to use guano. If I plant something and I'm happy to stand there and wait for it I shouldn't be obliged to fertilize it. But if I don't, someone puts fertilizer on it and takes it. If I try to take the produce of the seeds I planted, I get told they're not mine, but property of who fertilized them.
I'm not going to bother any more, like AB and NN, being forced to play in a way I don't desire is the first step to losing the will to play.

  • I don't go anywhere near those gardens unless i have xtra seeds & flowers to give away. I purposely stay away from the plots so as not to elevate anyone's blood pressure ;) The price of herbs will level off again, with the most costly being around 70c. Then you can buy the flowers or tinctures themselves for the potions, with a lot less aggravation!
