Where does Birch Syrup come from?

One would think Birch trees, but considering there are no Birch trees in Glitch, it must come from some other type of tree, or be imported from a far off land.

If it comes from one of the trees that currently exsist in the Glitch world that we know of, there must have been someone who knew how to tap the trees (in which case i'll have to find him and have him teach me his ways!).

If it is imported from a far off land, Uncle Friendly must be able to place an order for some Maple, if there is enough demand! Right?

  • Hmmmm . . . excellent question. And what about honey? and olive oil? there must be lands we have not yet imagined where those things grow!

  • We must be importing them from somewhere far far away. Only the vendors know where. Perhaps one day we will be able to discover that place :)

  • From what I've been able to gather, it comes from any tree or crop, and maybe even herbs.  It is possible that vendors get it from these locations as well, but some of the vendors look rather plantlike, and so may be able to excrete it themselves with some effort.

I am not entirely sure why it is called "birch" syrup.  It could be some sort of a brand name!  ;P

  • Isn't it obvious? Those things all come from a grocery vendor.

  • Get that birch some syrup. Birches love syrup.

Sorry now that THAT'S out of my system I'm very curious myself. I'm just letting things come to be as they are launched. Our poor devs have so much work to do as it is! ;-) and I'm sure they have MUCH more up their sleeves for us than what they are letting on. Let us get this housing project out of the way and then lets see what happens!

  • I always suspected that the wood-looking vendors were the source of this mysterious "syrup". You have to wonder if perhaps "birch syrup" is something entirely different, and amounts to a massive practical joke at our expense. Maybe that's why those vendors are always grinning when I walk by...

  • Actually, birch syrup is a type of thickened borscht.  Parsnips and onions are cooked together in an awesome pot with flour and corn to make it more syrup-like.  Since parsnips are used instead of beetroot, the syrup base is white. The word combined with an Old Urthian word, bherəg, which means white or shining, and eventually became birch as we know it today.
