Voting results - so close, possibility of all three?

The voting now ended, it seems that the top three (Sloths, Foxes and Alpacas) are separated by just a handful of votes.

With this selection being so close, and so far ahead of the others, would TS consider introducing all three?

Maybe?
Perhaps?
Please?

  • Since I think the new animals are supposed to be about building house stuff (there was a bit of hint in another thread I think), it could be a good thing to wait on Alpaca.

But I'd like for all three to get add, they all got 16%, and change, in the end

  • Actually sorry — yes.

However, we just considered it and then decided against it.

    edit: nevermind. stoot is sorry.

  • I'm glad our voting process isn't getting shafted by changing the rules at the last minute. That would be doing all of us a gross disservice and could affect whether and how people vote in future ballots if there's an expectation that the outcome could be changed at the whim of the devs, regardless of how we voted.
Posted 9 months ago by Voluptua Sneezelips Subscriber! | Permalink
  • so fox and sloth have  won?  congrats to them.   I would have voted for fox as second if I hadn't spent all my votes on monkeys.    I find alpacas a bit too sweet and cloying (and there are already a lot of sweet piggies and so on in the game) and I'm still not even sure what a sloth is.

Anyway, these are wild resource giving animals.  I ever only wanted a pet monkey but I read some time ago that it would be awhile before pets were introduced if they ever were.

    Go fox!

Do wish we could vote to boot those annoying chickens out of the game.

  • In the issue of full disclosure I was a sloth/fox backer, but Voluptua is totally right. Anyway, in light of alpaca's performance I'm sure it will be considered for something else in the future.
Posted 9 months ago by GirlWhatSqueaks Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It would not be a gross disservice, how can it be, with less than 1% between the top three, its clearly what the paying subscribers would like to see within the game.

If there had been allowances for some of the others that got no where near as many votes, then I could see you point.

If it was added it would not be 'done on a whim' - It would be a sensible and logical choice considering the almost equal support it gained.

  • I just figured that if they got a true tie, with precisely the same counts, they'd make an intern break the tie.  Three animals means more hours worked to meet deadline.
Posted 9 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree with Voluptua - personally I'd much prefer alpacas over foxes but it would be unfair to all the people who spent votes on fox to turn around now & say "we'd have made a fox even if you'd been third, basically you wasted your votes".

But I think the alpaca fans have sent a strong message - maybe we'll get alpacas added at a later date, after the foxes and sloths.
Posted 9 months ago by Snazzlefrazz Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And who says they can't add all those animals eventually - but not NEXT because that was what we were voting for - NEXT.  They can add whatever they want and maybe the results are a good guide for what people might never want - whatever got the least votes.
Posted 9 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Remember that the players change over time and what future players might vote for could be different from what the present players have voted for.
Posted 9 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • No alpacas? I may cry.....
Posted 9 months ago by KatyaR Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Rynzla: my point is that people--paying subscribers--might have voted differently if we knew there was potential to add 3 animals instead of 2. People might have relaxed a bit, used fewer of their votes, once the 3 frontrunners pulled out ahead. This race for top 2 was *so* close and people felt strongly enough that some spent all their votes in this one ballot. This will affect their ability to influence future ballots as strongly. So yes, suddenly changing the rules would do everyone a disservice. It isn't about this one ballot, but all future ballots as well.

  •  It's so sad, Alpacas deserved to win. Sloth just won cause people exchanged their votes for a raffle bribe! But corruption is everywhere, which is unfortunate. And Sloth does nothing, :/ They're kind of weird looking cute but they do nothing. >.< Eventually I hope Alpaca will join soon enough though, those lovely alpacas.

  • I understand where people are coming from because this is one of the only aspects of Glitch that can involve real money... so it's kind of important to a lot of people, yeah?
Posted 9 months ago by diaveborn ♥ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • In any case I'm anxious to see the sloths, I hope they won't just stay in trees. :O
Posted 9 months ago by Lila Clemenceau Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I suppose that makes sense.  But honestly, we knew there were going to be losers to begin with.  And it would be extremely unfair to people who've invested more money to alter the rules of the vote before the decision is made.

So, to beat up on the messenger for delivering the verdict, however short and terse it was relayed, is a little ungrateful in my opinion.
Posted 9 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I still think its really cool that we had a chance to vote on changes to our gaming environment.  I also do not want the voting mechanics changed after they've been established, regardless of how close the vote is.  Judging by all of the other factors that make Glitch such a great game I am pretty sure no matter what animals are added it will be done in a creative and interesting manner.  Plus - given that petting pigs in real life doesn't mean you immediately get steaks I am pretty sure Sloths will not be doing nothing in Ur.
Posted 9 months ago by podle Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I definitely agree that it wouldn't make sense to alter things after.  I think I probably misunderstood where you were coming from a little bit - I mean, it still makes sense to me that people are going to be unhappy but yeah, I think you and I are more on the same page than I originally thought.
Posted 9 months ago by diaveborn ♥ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Speaking as a non-subscriber, there are numerous aspects of Glitch that involve real money.  And more coming, with the new house features.

If you don't agree, do an experiment:  wear only non-subscriber clothes.  Use only non-subscriber face features, hair and skin and hair colors.  Do so for a week.

It isn't pain and suffering, by any measure.  But the way I see a lot of people who've spent their bux flouncing around in their finery, I am certain they would feel a significant difference.

Disclaimer:  I was a Moly subscriber who requested and received a $90 refund at the unlaunching.

  • I'm sorry, I did let my short patience get the better of me.  I should have written something more polite and positive than "oh, come on!"

Here are my closing thoughts on the animals:

Glitch sloths are not going to be like real life sloths. Glitch foxes are not going to be like real life foxes. For one, they're going to be controlled with algorithms written in Flash. Secondly, they're going to need to be balanced for use in a game. Thirdly, those twisted, lovable souls at Tiny Speck are going to do something weird to them!

As for voting procedures, there are some really good points made in the original voting thread, near the end.  It may be best if next ballot, the results are not visible until everyone has voted.

  • I have to admit my ignorance here..or lack of knowledge may be a better term.  I have no idea what an alpaca is...*runs to google...*.....it's a Llama lookalike! Does that mean we'll get spat on if it eventually is implemented into the game?  That would be pretty funny...lol
Posted 9 months ago by ~Arabesque~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Alpacas are nicer than llamas. Overall more docile and the wool of the 1st year shearing is suuper soft.

For all the bad rap sloths are getting....they essentially fill the same role as koalas. Eat leaves, move slowly, and sleep most the day.

None of the nasty smelly, lazy, furniture comments would have been made against the cute koalas.

Love the inner sloth do not judge by it's less than lovely exterior!

  • lol, yes, Met! They are just like koalas!
Posted 9 months ago by Oristia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Honestly, people, I am mildly shocked by the reaction (and of course it is easy to say this as someone whose second choice came in 1st).

Do you really think that this means there will never be alpacas in the game? TS just discovered that alpacas are very popular. This was just for the next two animals in the game. It's not like they just took every other animal on the list out to behind the tool shed. They are all still options for the future. Heck, perhaps you'll be able to have alpacas in your backyard BECAUSE they didn't win.

Again, yes. Easy for me to say. But my first choice was avery unpopular one.

And finally... I'm not sure how much hyperbole is behind statements like "This ruined my night." But if I was a game designer, even one with a balanced attitude and a seemingly healthy amount of thickness to my skin, statements like that would make me sad. "Hey, we did this thing that seems pretty fun. And it put future choices (although smallish ones) in the hands of players (although, yes, not all players), and it just upset people. Perhaps it is best to just not do these. Or to make the 'stakes' on these measures even smaller." I don't mean not addressing actual issues with TS shouldn't happen. But in a case where things happen exactly as advertised? And there is, well, just complaining and there is constructive criticism.

Sigh. Me just being grumpy. Ignore me and move along.

  • Although I was heavily in Camp Alpaca,  I must say that it didn't ruin my night. I was disappointed, but....

    I HAD FUN!

People made some great posts, talked trash, formed PACs, made commercials and made promises on behalf of animals that will most likely never be honored. That in itself was a bonus, some additional player-generated game-play made possible by the Election.

I have a headache, my husband is being an ass to me..........and if Alpaca losing was enough to set me over the edge and ruin my night, then so be it.  , I say one damn thing, and I am the one that is jumped on.  Why?  I can't be all happy and LOBE all the time.
