Group Halls

In the Road to Beta Chapter VII there is a short list of top priority development goals and all of them have been completed in some form or another except one :

Group Halls and changes to group structure so that groups have a real presence in the world.

Hmmm .... interesting , what do you think of the idea of Group Halls and what could we use them for ?

  • Oh come on , as quiet as it is around here today someone must have an opinion of this. I personally think it would be pretty cool to have a building which we can collectively call our own. For some reason Bingo comes to mind ... maybe cause thats what they usually do with them out here in the sticks ....  Maybe swap meets ... TT~ Could come and have secret GAEOG meetings...

  • We used to have one in Groddle Forest, Market St.... but then it went. There's a glimpse of it in the (full) Alpha trailer. It was cool, though hardly anyone used it.

  • It was a party location once where stoot gave us glimpses into the future.  It was passed over on subsequent parties.

  • good times...

we would have used it if we could have passed the time playing flowtending!  flowtending is obviously the solution to any problem.

  • also, there was some discussion of this idea in this big long old thread about how the game might be anti-social:
    alpha.glitch.com/forum/gene...

...coulda sworn there was another thread where this was discussed more explicitly, with staff participation, but my search-fu fails me at the moment.

ps. the anti-social thread was pre-FS-era though so probably none of that stuff applies anymore.  ;)

  • That old thread was started about 6 months too early.  It was like critiquing Monopoly when the inventor had only gotten as far as the Jail square.  I've always found it easy to be social in Glitch, though.

  • The group halls can be a double-edged sword; they're particularly hard to balance. If the devs made group halls the be-all, end-all social spot to hang out and go about your business, the streets could significantly suffer emptiness (I use the game Ever Quest II as my example). Conversely, if there was not enough of an attraction to group halls, they would be a pretty moot feature because few people would use them.

  • The possibility of restaurants comes to mind, among other things.

  • What I'd like to see is a more generic type of building that could be bought an individual (in addition to their own house) and they could do whatever they want with it. They'd be different from houses in that the owner could grant access either to a list of players (in the case of a group hall of some sort), or make them "public" (in the case of a business) in which case anybody could come and go as they want. If it's set to public, the owner could make it closed or open whenever they want.

These buildings could be used as a group hall, a store, a restaurant, a theater or as another type of business. It would be up to the owner what to do with it. A player trading system could be used for purchases perhaps. There could be certain streets that would have these kinds of buildings (like a business/retail district).

  • It's really cool to read through the anti-social thread and see all the things that have been implemented in the last few months. If you start at the top it's like check, check, check down the issues and suggestions. Obviously importing an insta community didn't hurt but you old timers and devs did an awesome job getting all the tools into place to enable the community to not only stay a community but to thrive and grow. Great Job !!!
