Sanity Check!

Listen. Things are crazy these days. But they don't have to be as bad as they may seem and they won't be for long. Really.

This isn't about herbs or alts or houses. It's about the fact that change and uncertainty make folks anxious. And though we're all individuals with varying tolerance for change & uncertainty, we're a part of a group and groups feed off of each other. We eat up the good and bad and spit it back out as it came in. It's just what groups do.

We've had a lot thrown at us in the last few days. We went back to beta (omg what does that mean?! will there be a reset?!) and we learned more about the housing changes (ohno! i'm going to have to move?!) and we've gotten a load of new skills that have effected the market and nobody is quite sure what is and is not allowed as far as alts.

It's completely understandable that the forums and chats are a bit nuts and that people are on edge. But remember...

We can and will get through this. As my mom likes to say "this too shall pass". So let's try to make it as easy and fun as possible in the meantime.

  • Be a bit more considerate and understanding of your fellow Glitchen... they might just be a bit anxious and stressed out.

  • Share a hug or a smile when you meet with folks at shrines or while waiting for the subway. (If you press 1 when you're in the game window, you'll get a funny wtf face. If you press 3 you'll get a smile.)

  • Take some of your random crappe and hide it around ur.

  • Leave milk at your neighbors' doorsteps. Or, if you're feeling a bit mischievious, a piggy plop or pile of eggs.

  • Have a potions party.

  • Whatever... have a cool idea? share it in the comments :)

Just have fun. This is a game, after all. A game we're all quite passionate about or we wouldn't care so much. Most importantly, try not to let the crabbiness get to you. And if you're feeling crabby (or nervous or anxious or pissed or annoyed or sad or whatever), come to me... my bear has a fuzzy butt and isn't afraid to show it!

  • Very nice post Vera Strange. We all need to let fun be the dominant charateristic of Glitch again. Let the devs and mods, develop and moderate and let the little Glitchen play.

Perhaps a Fear! and Panic! party is in order?

  • "This, too, shall pass ..." - abbreviated on a friend's license plate as 'COMMA 2'.

@Zoethor2: No Fear! and Panic! parties unless you invite Loathing. ;D

  • We could all wear chicken outfits  (without the chicken hat) and run around like headless chickens! We can squawk!, flap our arms, and jump around needlessly.

Actually, we should do this on Toxic Moon or in Kristel Kaos,  or with a rainbow potion, for automatic jumping.

Or, we could just relax and pet a piggy and take some purple.

  • Ooh. An "invisibility hood" that hides heads would be good for this, and for pirate ghosts, and, well, uh, headless gorillas ... I guess?

  • :)

And the "COMMA 2" plate is awesome. I've toyed with the idea of a tattoo on the underside of my wrist that says " This, too...."

  • hahaha LOVE the headless chicken. I'm going to change right now :)

ETA: changed! and after lunch I'm going to run around Ur like a loon screaming for my head. Feel free to join me. (say, in about 40m from now until it gets boring). People will laugh....dammit. :)

  • Love this thread Vera, Vera much!!  :-D
There is WAY more good going on than the bad.  Look for the good you will find it, look for the bad and yes you'll find that too.  One thing that is clear and that Vera put very well......

  • So this. :)

I like to do random things like wander into the Shimla Mirch herb garden and hand everybody there a high-class hoe ['cause, y'know, we all need a high-class hoe] just for the fun of it.  People seem to appreciate it and it's fun for me because I love making stuff.  As far as I'm concerned, Tinkering 5 is the best skill in the game because I can make things and give them away.

I play with two questions in mind:  Am I having fun? (because what's the point in playing if I'm not having fun) and Are others having fun? (because fun is contagious -- if others are having fun, then it's fun for me.)  If it appears others are not having fun, particularly due to my actions, then I need to step back, apologize if I've really crossed a line, and re-evaluate what I'm doing.  That's the way I play, but it helps me remember to be considerate of my fellow Glitchen.

At the end of the day, it boils down to one thing: the friendships we form.  Even those playing Glitch solo still have interactions with people, even if it's the congratulatory shout from the other side of the mine when you level up or the occasional person on the subway who wants to hand you weird things.  People are people -- there's bad apples in every bunch and occasionally there's just going to be a personality clash.  This gets exacerbated in high-stress situations, and there's no denying we're in one now.  Plus, it isn't an easy time out there in reality these days, either.

So yeah, I second Vera on the "hey, let's all be a bit kinder to one another."

@Zoether2: I vote for 'OMG TEH WORLD IS ENDING OHNOES' party. ;)

And with that, I'll stop babbling.

(we also have 25m until the Big Game of Chicken which was totally inspired by this thread and, if I'm honest, the real reason why I'm bumping it ;))

  • Only a bit related: After buying way too many teal-white triangle keys over a period of weeks, I then hid them all over Ur. I loved going by the spawn points and slipping them to AFK'ing spawn campers. (I hope they didn't just auction them. That would make me sad. But not too sad.)

  • You guys are awesome :)

I decided that now would be an ideal time to finish up that "find people at levels 3, 4, and 5 and give them stuff" quest, so I wandered across the highlands of Ur, handing out Random Kindnesses and drinks and chatting with new people and people who had been in the game forever, and FINALLY got all five that I needed (I'd been at 1/5 forEVER, because I don't tend to hang out near the new-Glitch-spawning-point area) . . . and then just kept doing the same thing, because it feels awesome to put a smile on someone's face :)
Posted 12 months ago by Ashbet Subscriber! | Permalink
  • woot! I love that quest! I kinda hate it when I have it... "gah! where/how do i find new players?!" "bah not new!" "gah! level 7!"...  but, once it's done and the pressure is off, it's even more fun to give folks stuff.
