Home means Rest

Hello Glitch people!

It would be so nice if we don't lose our energy and mood while we are in our houses. It even sounds logic, right?

  • It should be a buff. "Home Sweet Home" :)

  • After purchasing my house, I kinda wondered what the benefit really was other than extra space and my personal stash of trees/animals/crops. I almost don't need to go home at all, as most of that I can achieve at community plots and any other part of the world... Not losing energy/mood would be awesome.  Additionally, maybe a "sleep" or "rest" option where our characters can recharge (with maybe a time penalty, or a gradual charge) would be awesome so that we don't use up our meditation allotment or our food supply, making it easier to make donations and perform tasks. It makes a lot of sense to be able to rest and chill out at home...

  • Exactly, Reibillanuts!
I bet that with "no lose energy in a house" would raise a demand for buying houses.

To be honest, it's quite tiresome to 'exit to World" every time I need to do something quickly away from my computer.

  • I doubt that only two of us think that this is a good idea. Come on people, support it if you like. :)

  • +1 as well.

I've suggested before that maybe Glitches should have a bed in their house which they could use to rest. I sometimes take long breaks away from the PC and having my avatar just stand there in the AFK stance just doesn't jive with me much, adding to the fact that standing there in AFK can also drain your energy. And yes, there have been other comments regarding the house being a "resting" area.

  • +1, I posted something similar once, asking for a mild energy/mood replenishment, but I would settle most happily for no loss while in home.

  • +1, this is something I've idly thought would be cool before, or something similar, since there are times I just wish to remain logged on but not entirely active, doing some matinence of inventory, etc.

  • Sit 'Emote' + Chairs -> no energy loss

Sleep 'Emote' + Beds -> mood down if you get up early, energy gain if you stay the course (7 game hours of course)

  • I++++1 : I concur that home should be a safe haven - it would be so nice to have a place to rest, replenish, relax and NOT loose energy.
Some day IF (I think I read this) Tiny Speck does indeed provide a means to "personalize" our homes - decorate it, expand it and allow our friends to visit - then definitely it could be the ideal refuge and pied a terre to hang out in. Hope they are listening - keep voicing your opinions please. See you all at "my" house in the future..................................

  • The problem is that your home is a good place to get a lot of stuff done, and if there's an incentive to stay home (by yourself, usually), it can cut down on social interaction.

It is really not a big deal to lose energy/mood as time passes.  Just don't leave your Glitch sitting around for long periods.
Posted 17 months ago by larky lion Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ok larky lion, what you said make sense too, of course. But. If you're just in home and standing (doing nothing), it's normal not to lose energy.
I really don't like to exit the world every time I want to do something else (not for a too long period of time) and loading all over again.

I think that the couch is my home is really inviting. What about recharging when on the couch? A couch potatoe kinda thing. It just gives a very small energy and mood boost (maybe about 0.5% of our energy tanks?) over a period of time. Like 0.5% of the energy tank every 10 seconds.

  • +1 for the buff but would encourage a limit because many of us do perform game-related activity at home that leads to achievements, completed quests and XP increases. If we had a permanent home rest, would that mean our homes would be permanently outside of the realm of gameplay?

  • +1 it makes sense and you wouldn't be AFK in a public area. Seeing all those people sleeping while standing up creeps me out a bit. :-)

  • +1 for having a 'safe zone' in game where I don't lose energy and don't have to exit the game. I get that while we do things there, like gardening, harvesting, picking, watering, petting, nibbling, cooking that we'd have energy loss, but if just standing there, we can stand in home and remain in game.  Would love to interact with the furniture too...and if that provided a rest buff/effect of sorts, it would be great too.

  • +1, it would be a nice draw for having houses, it would be nice to put my Glitch in her house and go afk for a few mins instead of logging out, especially since screen loading times have gotten so loooooong recently.
Posted 17 months ago by Kross, the Empress Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'll disagree. People might be tempted to stay logged in to the game in their house. The house, if I'm not mistaken, is an instanced mini-street of sorts that is initiated when someone steps inside. As such, it takes up a bit of memory on the server for each person in their house. Multiply that by 5, 10 or 50,000, and we're wasting a lot of server space for no good reason.

Plus, every 4 hours of real time we get all our energy and mood replenished. As long as you exit the game if you're leaving, there shouldn't be much of a problem.

And if everyone was doing their farming in community gardens, no one would get any farming done. There are very few patches for thousands of Glitches. Community gardening is only feasible because so few people do it. If everyone suddenly had to do it, the game would break.

  • Sean of the Moor, some of things you said are ok and logic, but don't you think that everyone who just stay at the street and sleep is also, as you name it, wasting a server space? Not to mention the Hell which is full of sleeping players.
Posted 17 months ago by Almond Subscriber! | Permalink
  • When I'm at "home", I putter around and run down my energy before the start of a new day. Then the new day starts and there's a gift of energy. It's like the end of a day in real life. Otherwise, you could work endlessly inside your house and never lose energy. Then you would interact less with other players. It could be a little isolating. Far the game as a whole, there shouldn't be too much incentive to stay by yourself in your house.

  • I like the idea of slower energy depletion at home, or perhaps a bed where one can renew their energy, but I don't like the idea of NO energy depletion. In RL when I'm at home, I can catch up on rest by sleeping or relaxing, but I also do things (such as cleaning or cooking) that use energy.
Posted 17 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sakmet, I sort of see what you're saying but at the same time, I don't think it would be so much of a problem--after all, staying inside your house would be horribly boring and really sort of defeat the purpose of Glitch.  But I think Audaria has a good point in that we do things in our homes that require energy, so maybe we could have a slowed down energy drain.
Posted 17 months ago by Kross, the Empress Subscriber! | Permalink
  • " but don't you think that everyone who just stay at the street and sleep is also, as you name it, wasting a server space?"
Nope. "Hell" exists on the server already, as do all the streets upon which folks are dozing. However, each individual house is probably only instantiated when a person enters it. When one leaves, the instance no longer exists on the server. So if you have 5,000 extra instances on the server, it increases the load.

I may be wrong, and people's individual housing instances are constantly up and running, but that seems quite unlikely.

  • +1 Almond. I always think to myself when I get to the house, "why can't I take a nap in that damn chair!".
Posted 17 months ago by Muncey Mango Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I thought, if you do something inside your house, you'll lose energy of course, but if you're just standing, you won't. However, I also agree with "slowing down energy drain" idea.

@Sean, I really don't think it would bother game so much. After all, I have a feeling that you calculate like everyone would just dwell in the house at the same time, which is kind of impossible.
Posted 17 months ago by Almond Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Sean of the Moor - I'm pretty sure that you are incorrect.

there is evidence that homes are persistent given the way that meat collectors work.

and at any rate we shouldn't worry about the servers while suggesting ideas, since even if you are an expert in the field it is extremely difficult to ascertain glitch's operational capabilities from where we sit.

  • I think it'd be great if when in your house you could go to bed or a special chair or hammock and whilst there you wouldn't use any energy until you started doing something.

  • +1 to this.  Don't really care if it necros the post or something.  These simple, important issues need to get pushed first.  If someone who comes from, say World of Warcraft, where logging out in an inn gives you realistic resting buffs, they'll leave in a heart beat because that is missing from this game.

Anyway, this is a great place for future house customization to come into place.  Furniture that allows you to rest, whatever.  Until then, at least make neither drop.  Give us some reason to trek home at the end of our weary day at the mines. :3

    +1 from me too!
I like to use group chat often and when I want to have long conversations, while I'm in my house it's kind of annoying having to top up energy and mood when I've been doing...nothing. I just had to do it now, as I'd left him standing in house while reading these forums and chatting in group chat.

  • I think a mild buff for being at home would be great.  I think that not losing any energy or mood is too unbalanced, but loosing 1/nth as much from actions (especially tending the house plants or animals), or getting n times as much from eating (home cooked meals are better), or gaining back X energy per minute for the first Y minutes would be great.  The idea of being able to rest on a bed or couch for an energy and mood recharge would also be really good.

I love the idea about a "Home Sweet Home" buff that either stops you losing energy/mood altogether, or provides a weakened version of Meditation. I too take long breaks away from the game and I hate having to leave the world so that I don't lose energy/mood while I'm away.

  • Does it give people some advantage to stay logged in while they aren't actually playing?

I've never found any reason to stay logged in.  I just close my browser and click the bookmark when I'm ready to play again.
Posted 15 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think it's beneficial to the game as a whole to have a mild incentive to log out rather than AFK-ing -- sessions where the user is away are still consuming server resources, even if you're in your home. So it saves TS money, and down the line lets us get more bang for our, or our friends', subscriber buck if we log out when we leave.

I know that I tend to leave lots of things open when I go AFK, but because it's better for my character to log out of Glitch, I remember to do so and don't leave a session pestering the server 24/7. If I were immune to energy/mood drain while at home, I'd be less diligent about that.

  • There seems to be two distinct ideas for how this buff should work

The first is an aura present in the entire house that reduces or stops mood/energy drain. I agree with others that this has potential to be exploited, could reduce interactivity with the outside world, and may lead to regular Home-AFK scenarios, which impact server activity.

The second is an interactive object where the Glitchen goes rests on a bed/chair/couch, providing a mood/energy regeneration buff. I believe this

    A) has far less chance to be exploited (you cannot perform tasks in the rest object),
    B) would not cause homebody tendencies, maintaining street-world interaction
    C) would add to immersion (it can be immersion-breaking to see a street of sleeping Glitchen, which will only become more common with increasing popularity)

Such an object-buff could be combined with a rested experience buff a la World of Warcraft inns. Say what you will about the game, it was an interesting idea to provide occasional gamers an edge over play-all-day gamers so they wouldn't fall too far behind the level curve. Perhaps an Alice in Wonderland reference: "I'm Late! I'm Late! (You've overslept and must get to a very important date! Gain 200% experience for the next X experience you gain)"

  • I had skimmed through for something to this effect and not been able to find it, which prompted me to post a whole new topic.  In the interest of convenience, I'll just collapse mine into yours to keep all the ideas on the same page (literally).  (Thanks, Roderick, for linking me here)

    "House : Energy

When you're hanging out at home, it would be helpful if your energy went up instead of down.  It doesn't have to be fast or anything, just... go to your house in game, get up and cook and eat dinner in the real world for a couple hours, come back, and your Glitchen has another 1 energy point for every 5 real world minutes which have passed (or something like that).  If you exit the world, your energy stays where it is (just like it's set up now), even if you are at home.

(could also have things to buy with credits or currants which would make your energy go up faster)

Not perfectly hashed out, of course, but just a thought.  I also apologize if someone already made this suggestion.  I didn't see it while I was skimming, but--well, I was only skimming."
