Two Noob-ish Questions

Sorry if this isn't the right place for these questions, but I am not finding much info regarding either, so I hope it's alright to ask here.

1. What are the basics on piggy care in your back yard before you have the Remote Herdkeeping skill? I do have a spice tree near my piggy, but I am guessing that he doesn't eat spice? I have been trying to feed him enough crops to keep him good and healthy, but it is hard to figure out how much this requires by manual feeding. Do they have a life span or nibble limit, as I have seen suggested elsewhere? I feel like I'm feeding them quite a lot of crops, but they still tend to croak before I can figure out the right amount (although I am only in the game once every real day sometimes). Any helpful info on this topic would be greatly appreciated. :D

2. I received the "Walk Toward the Light" quest yesterday, but I had to leave the zone before I was able to complete it. Now, when I look in my quest log, it shows that I still have the quest, but the "Try it!" button is greyed out and says, "You are already doing this quest!" when I hover over it. How do I get back to the zone to complete the quest?

Thanks :)

  • If you care for the tree (pet-water-harvest), your pig should be able to eat from it and survive that way; I have seen pigs eat from spice trees.  Daily hand-feeding ought to guarantee its survival though.  I don't know the figures on the latter, but someone else is sure to have studied it.

  • Piggys eat from all the trees that have been petted and watered. If you drop beans, grain, etc, in clusters (not a grain bundle) along your yard, they will eat that also, as needed.

Not sure how many game days they will survive without food, but I doubt past 4 calendar days.  If you want to ensure long piggy life, get a feeder and stock it with grain, beans, whatever is easy to collect.

BTW -- Butterflies last a week, a bit more with singing, a bit less with lots of milking.

  • Hi Zaeirra, welcome to Ur - not noob questions at all,

Hmm Piggies eat from all trees but wood ones, harvest Pet and water your tree to keep it healthy, Piggies like company so if you can add a chicken and a butterfly, sad pigs don't eat, pet him each day also. Feeding a piggy one meat per day will help him stay full and allow you to nibble him, it is not necessary to feed him crops unless you need crop seeds, then feed multiples of three to get a seed, (so for example feeding 12 potatoes will yeild 4 seeds if examine the poop)

Walk to the light quest sounds as if it is stuck/bugged for you, I suggest post in the bugs forum or open a bug report when in game (bug icon on top right of screen) this will get you some help so you can finish the quest,

    Good Luck,

  • My pigs survive with no extra food or feeders I have a bubble tree and spice tree I make sure I water and pet them every day,it is much cheaper than using the feeders I had trouble keeping them filled all the time and I get just as much meat from my free roaming piggies I dont use the pig stick so they can get to the trees..if u have feeders and forget to feed them the pigs die having them loose with no feeders means you dont have to worry if you miss a few days..

  • I have 8 piggies (4 in backyard w/ a widest-roam stick & 9 on the street that are free-roam).
There are a variety of trees that I water, pet & harvest. I also have feeders for the pigs in case I am not home for a day or two. I make sure the feeders are full before I log-off.
I never have to hand feed them (except for seeds) or drop food for them. I don't think any of them have died since I got my house. (I also water/pet my trees almost every time I pass them even after they are harvested for the day. It seems to keep them healthy and I sometimes get nice "drops" just from doing that. The piggies seem to thrive.

  • Hey there Zaeirra, welcome to the Game! I second all the suggestions above, with an emphasis on one in particular: leave clusters of grain, cherries, bubbles in your yard close to where the pig roams. This will ensure it has food even if you forget to water and pet your trees. Side note: I've seen pigs eat from the gas trees, even. They certainly eat from the spice trees.

  • PIGS: Grain is the cheapest way to feed a pig if a tree isn't enough (10 currants worth of food is sufficient). Though 2 pigs/tree will keep the pigs alive and nibble-able if the tree is taken care of daily.

As far as I can tell there is no difference in feeding vegetables to grain....only list price of currants matters.

In addition to the tree, especially if you're skipping a day here and there, is to leave grain on the ground in small clumps of 10.

Some people say that the grain is ignored...it is often the food of last resort. My experience is that they eat the grain before dying. Your experience may vary ^.^

However, (in a time long long ago) my home street in Andra had no trees and we kept 5-6 pigs alive from dropped grain alone.

Also, keeping animals alive and producing is a vexing and finicky part of game play...kinda like animal keeping irl :) Not a noob question at all. If you continue to grow your various herds you'll probably have more questions...as we all had/have.

QUEST: Contact live help in game. It's a chat channel near the top of your list with a purple question mark. In the past they've been able to help with stuck quests. If the staff there is unable to help then they'll direct you to file a bug report.
