Done anything in your Glitch career you look back on that makes you facepalm?
Well, I haven't done much that's stupid, though I only JUST noticed the "shake" button for milk... D:
I've done a lot of these things, but I have to say that my biggest mistake was going to the hall and getting my papers instead of doing the back alley quest for them. :(
Not realising Global Chat existed for several months.
Not knowing who the Rube was, so when some nice players alerted me in local chat that the Rube was here for me, I ignored them and kept on walking. D:
Right, drinking a couple of Flaming Humbabas and then forgetting to grind; drinking an Earthshaker in a Street with no rocks.. we are supposed to drop a note in the area where we find ghosts.. I am instead carrying around 4 notes which say 'Ghosts here'; realised much later that u had to 'drop' them
Hammering away at the enter button to squeeze chickens right in front of a shrine. Twice in the last three days, I've ended up donating all of my allspice to random Giants. *le sigh*
I, like Solana, went directly to Bureaucratic Hall and got my Papers that way. I will never be able to trigger the Back Alley Quest and special location instance unless the devs think of another thing that we might need to get via Back Alley transactions.
I have also hit ALL OF THESE instead of ONE OF THESE more than once. I hope that this default changes soon.
I am glad to get the PROTIP about not dropping SnoCones. Eventually I would have done that and been very irritated when it melted.
I have accidentally left a street when Rube was trying to trade with me. I have accidentally left a street while chatting with a friend and hitting enter after a sentence.
I did not realize that having a house or apartment was no protection against dying while AFK. Apparently I earned my first Hell badge without ever actually seeing Hell personally. Three visits and resurrections while I was AFK much longer than anticipated. This was prior to the expansion of Hell and the badge, so I have no idea if this still works. Also, Hell always shunts me out to Burnabee after I squish my way free, no matter where I was when I went to Hell. Is that normal, or just a coincidence?
I, too, was terrible at the n00b tree jumping quest. On the plus side, I think I left with, like, 120 spinach leaves when I finally clued in.
I finished feeding the five pigs clustering around me before responding to the Smuggler, and then the animals were in the way and I didn't think to use the enter key instead of the mouse quickly enough so I didn't talk to him in time. Failed before I even began!
Went to Ancestral Lands areas with high-value goodies in my inventory, two of which were promptly stolen by Jujus. Argh!
Thought the clock quoins / coins in Ancestral Lands added time to the Ancestral Lands timer, not that they reduced learning time.
Did not take long classes first and now have seven days to go on BL5 and several other skills that will take 5-6 days or more. Derp.
As a low level, I bought some interesting stuff and subsequently gave antidote to a tree another Glitch had poisoned for a quest and got chewed out for it.
Hitting enter a lot while lagged and trying to cooperatively mine, which picked up someone else's gem. I did ask everyone to check the local chat log so I could return it to the right owner once s/he made room in his or her inventory, but no one bothered. So, free Guilt Gem for me.
Made the mistake of leaving notes and nice food and drinks for neighbors outside their homes. I think some got them; others were, like, "WHAT food and drinks? All I got was a note!" We definitely need some sort of "welcome mat" or mail slot for residences that locks gifts and notes left on someone's doorstep to the intended recipient.
Walked past the free spices on the ground in Ix many, many times before it dawned on me that the same spices were spawning in the same spots every time I was there, and that it was OK to pick them up.
Bought equipment I could not use without a specialized higher level skill. Bad money management!
Instead of just buying ONE firefly jar and taking my carved pumpkins to the bogs and THEN lighting each one individually while there, I bought MANY jars and filled them all up in advance. Result? I have a LOT of jars and I don't live in the bogs.
@Harrump: To be fair, the "ghost here" notes confused me when I was on the ghost hunt, because the ghost appeared in that spot for someone else but not for me. The seven locations vary for everyone doing the quest. I spent thirty minutes trying to click on nothing because the note dropped there SAID there was definitely a ghost lurking and the wiki confirmed it as a correct location.
-- First day playing jumping into Wintry Place so excited with how cool everything looked, not realizing that I was quickly dying.
-- Not realizing there was an xp cap on donations at first, and giving everything I had for no reason.
-- Feeding that jerk batterfly a stack of Awesome Stews. And another stack to that jerk pig. I learned to be more careful clicking while mining.
-- Never got the Back Alley quest because I ran into a Bureaucratic Hall before coming across a subway station... and didn't even know about quest until much much later.
It also took me a day or so to realize how levitation actually worked once you learn the skill. Heh.
After 10 months of playing I just this week realised that you can put whole bags in your cupboard and not just single items... DOH!
Oh! I didn't know about the Back Alley Quest either... I got my papers almost immediately like a good citizen, even though I still don't really know what use they are.
And now apparently I've missed a quest because of that! Smeg!
Oh yeah throwing the entire bottle of shrine powder into the shrine. And then wondering why it was so special, I only got a few hundred xp/fp from it. >_<' Oops.
Dying by grinding. Dying by mining. Not realising how cool dying was and trying to avoid it. *giggles* Oh wait maybe that's just me (and the other un-dead >_>)....
Avoiding no-no powder because of the name. >_>
Doing no-no powder at 8 am game time. *oops*
And most recently... not realising where to find Global (chat). >_< When I finally found the link I felt like such a doofus. All these nice people! I could have been hanging out there the entire time! Glad I finally found it. <3
Here's a new one for me: Forgetting to pick up emblems from shrines after you've been alerted that you have one waiting for you. I have no idea how long I was maxed out with several giants and was loosing out on favor because of it.
Miso George wrote: Oh wow LeiLei I had no idea you could do that! So cool! :o
Yap, I found this out by accident...I clicked learn on one skill while still learning another, and thought "oh crap there goes 3 days..." but was pleasantly surprised. It's such a handy feature.
My *first* noob mistake was thinking the welcome glitch I requested during the tutorial was a bot. So I didn't speak to them or introduce myself or ask any questions, because I didn't realize it was a real person.
I only *just* realized I could set teleport point directly inside my home.
I had tp point set to the main street of my house...so I had to go thru the street menu, wait for it to load., walk to my house...then wait for that to load to get home o.o
Just remembered one. Had seen people talking about arrow keys not working in Safari, and despite using Firefox, I suddenly found myself unable to move to the right in Cebarkul (?). Kept pressing right, even clicking to the right of my glitch - no joy. Clicked on the little bug to file a report and right at the last minute realised that there was a little hummock in the ground I needed to jump up to proceed. That would have been an embarrassing bug report.
@Sirentist Thinking the Juju just wanted to talk. About my focusing orb.
LMAO!! Oh that's just priceless hon...seriously. Thanks for the chuckle...I'm adding you to my friends list straightaway. :D
Great thread! All good answers. I've done many, including not learning all the BL's first, so I think my next biggest one was spending all my emblems to speed up learning before I learned that it takes 11 emblems of one Giant to make an icon...d'oh!
As a fresh new Glitch, I was under the impression that meditating would work something like: set up the orb, step away from the computer for 15 minutes or so, come back to full energy. What a disappointment it was when it turned out Meditative Arts I only affords me about 5 seconds of meditation. Not really a mistake, seeing as you need MA I for Teleportation, IIRC, but just a misconception.
When I first got the hogtie skill, I dropped my first piggy in the freezer (Wintry Place). It was not happy about that.
Also, I have the shrine problem all the time. I kept donating my alchemical tongs until some folks on Global took pity on me and made me some abbisaid ribs. Also, I now have a spare pair of tongs in the basement.

Wasting my currants over nothing, I followed my own gaming-ways then one day I noticed, I shouldn't have bought that (I couldn't remember the item but I remember buying dozens of it).
(when I JUST noticed the auction button. . . huge mistake right there considering that I used to sell my green beans for vendors around the street.)
I squeeze-donated a 12-sided die. Hooray for the alphabetical sort in the donation selection menu.
My biggest mistake was not understanding skill learning. I had 6 skills paused when I discovered agent86's Skillifier! (accessible from agent86's tools home!). It's not that I'm in any kind of race to get all the skills FAST FAST FAST, but rather the tragedy of the unnecessary waiting. The game is plenty fun as it is without all the skills, but I could have had more sooner. Not counting acceleration from donations, it will take me about 75 days to learn the rest of the skills. A new glitch could learn everything in under 60 days. I've been playing for over a month. That's 45 extra days of waiting for skills, or more accurately, about a 66% increase in time/donations necessary because of skill learning mistakes. :(
Don't feel too bad crazybat. I bought a new house without thinking and left *everything* behind. Icons, emblems, party packs... Luckily I was able to buy my old house back before someone else got it LOL
I was one day away from the achievement for collecting maximum daily allotment of coins in 17 days straight when I joined the game with like 1 minute left in the day. The day expired and I had to start all over again.
I died and went to Naraka but I was in there and could not figure out how to get out! I did not know about global chat, my friends were off line and I was there, standing there like a idiot trying to figure out what to do!

I just realized at level 43 that when you are viewing a realty page, you can see the entire property by clicking the "magnify" icon. Having thought it merely led to a large view of what was already on screen I never clicked it.
At level 23, I set myself to smelting 633 lumps of metal in a Wintry Place and switched windows. One of the dumber ways I've committed suicide on here.
I'm glad I got over my fear of dying. Now it's practically a ritual. Sort of bummed I lost my screencap of my tombstone sitting in a big pile of stinky cheese. No idea how that happened, none at all.
Well, I just found out today after waiting 2 days to learn RHK that feeders don't work in the basements of bog houses. After this, I don't *ever* want to hear another glitch complain about not being able to grow herbs at their mansions. Arrrrghhh.
Edit: Wrong. They work. I'm just an impatient glitch.
