I don't really remember why I chose that name. It's none of the other names I use on the internet or in games. But I like the sound of it. I think I was in a Mulan period when I chose it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn_nM7x7Lcw
For some reason I have always been interested in the story of Cassandra in the tales of Troy. I named a doll Cassandra when I was very young (I was a very early and a voracious reader!) and have used it as a nom-de-plume ever since. I altered it a bit for Glitch, so now it is Cassandria.
@Cassandria: As a small child, were you wont to ramble around having screaming visions of the future and moaning? (Or perhaps your doll was?) lol
There was some horrible video related to Cassandra (was very overacted and frought with itself) that seemed to get shown in high school, and I know don't why, but your story made me think of it, and that bit in particular. Now I'm smiling from ear to ear just thinking of that silly thing, so I'm glad you told us about your name ;)
I had a lot of fun reading all your stories and it made me smile and laugh. So here is mine reason for my name.
I love the movie "The Fifth Element". In it the main character is named Lilu and she has flaming red hair. So I came up with Rilu. Lilu sounds too common so I took the R from the red color of her hair.
KitkatCat dates back to FS, where I tried to sign up with kitkat. When that failed, I tried KitCat. When THAT failed, I tried smushing them together to make KitkatCat. Since participating in the FS forums, I have been known as KC or KkC in some circles. Later, I decided to name my character here Princess Amethyst, in memory of my favourite dasher with a heart pattern, but soon decided to change my name back to good ole KitkatCat.
I think I was drinking hooch when I made mine - Orefye
We had just found this great game online and we were so excited to start... quickly.
I had just laid grass seed and was hungry, very hungry...so...
ORegon, Eat Fuscue Yankee Evers.
Please don't get offended, Yankee Evers...
When I started Glitch, I wanted to be "Freddy Mercury's Mustache" but it is apparently too long of a name. So up until the last reset, I was just Freddy Mercury. I wasn't really stoked on the name though, so I changed it when I realized you COULD change it. Now it is just my name. I need to think of a more Glichly name still though.
Of course, now I just thought of a name, but the option tells me I can only change my name once every 2 months and to come back in 94 days. That math doesn't add up...
Kaushka was the name of the second feline in my life - he was a Russian Blue (non-Siamese-tainted), and was the most intelligent animal I've ever known in my 46 years.
I got mine when I signed up for AOL Dial-up when it was the big thing, how long ago was that ?!? I didn't want to be yada1234 so I grabbed a dictionary and randomly opened it to a page and the first word on it, that I liked, Divinewill went through ... kismet ? I have used it ever since in one form or another.
Edited to add: For those of you wondering what's up with the ~ ... that's my tongue flapping as it's wont to do ...
I didn't feel like using my other usernames and I've been fond of a few names starting with 'M' for a while...
So 'Millie' it was :)
Plus, I liked the shape of it, if that makes sense :p
Kaliope the Muse of epic poetry or calliope (a musical instrument of steam whistles) (think of a circus wagon) either way is fine by me.
Kaliope Muse ( akakzkat)
Sounds like lots of us wanted something different from our usual online names. I wanted a Glitch friendly name. My real name is Nikki. Some people call me Nik or Niknik... but i thought Nuknuk was cute. In my head it's "Nook Nook" but i'm sure people read it with a short "u" :)
Well, in a way, I truly am a sort of land pirate, or maybe gypsy.. I move around a lot. I've lived in a van in the desert and in a van down by the sea. My best stretch was 9 moves over the course of 3 years. I also actually have a parrot. Yes, it talks. It says Hi, Hello, whatcha doin, and even shiver me timbers and arr matey. No word of a lie. His large parrot cage rides shotgun in the van. There is no passenger seat.
I've been Cap'n something or other in many corners of the internet in the past.
Also, I like generic names. Bob suited well in this case.
Tharr ye have it, matey!
@ Shawn: I fu*n LOVE the name Freddy Mercury's Mustache! That's epic in every way! LOL
What about Mustachio? Some how it just doesnt live up to the epicness that is Freddy Mercury's Mustache. But, sadly, I dont think anything ever will... :,(
Cefeida is my 'other' online name. It's not too hard to link it back to my first online persona, if you follow the website crumb trail, but the difference does give me a little bit of breathing space.
A cepheid is a pulsating star. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cepheid_variable
It's funny how many people are named after their cats. I've used this name in almost every game I've played and it originally came from my cat too. He was a cat and he was fussy. End of story.
I usually go by 'faboomama' or 'fabooj' online, with the later being a 20 year old UID. I picked Jarhaven because 1) I didn't expect to like Glitch, therefore dumping out soon and 2) There was a jar in front of me and I watched some bugs using it as a haven from the rain.
I'm GretaZuFs because my full name is Greta Zubyte and there are 3 Gretas in my class. So i am GretaZu, the other one is GretaLia and the third one is GretaMi. Greta+the first syllable of surname. Everyone is calling us just Zu, Lia or Mi. And Fs, because i have played Faunasphere, so everyone from faunasphere can see that i have played it too :) Just like misskey :)
When I first signed into the alpha, I had just eaten breakfast and was in the middle of working a spec script for the TV show Community entitled "Shakespeare Studies." So I went for the very sloppy pun of Lord Banquo.
I was about 10, it was about 1994, I needed a super cool name for aim/hotmail/bbs/mudd's/all the great things of the early 90's internet. Having the imagination of a 10 year old I came up with renniSaint; if you start in the S in the middle it is Saint one way and Sinner backwards. I was also huge into graphics design so I had a super cool ambigram graphic of it.
@ SFG: I was wondering about your name... humm...Why am i not surprised?... hehehehe
My name is fairly straight forward. Chelsea - I'm a Chelsea FC fan. Stars: I like Astrology - not the drivel you read in newspapers and magazines, but REAL astrology, calculations, interpretations and all. ChelseaAstrology would have sounded...well...weird. FS: Self-explanatory really - Faunasphere Refugee.
When I first was invited to F/S and was trying to create my user name and every name I picked was unavailable so I as I was leaving I used my usual good by xoxJulie and that name worked. I can usually find my name at the very end of most lists now. LOL :)
