Low level griefing is ruining this game.

People are purposely putting butterflys chickens and pigs in mining areas to purposely make mining difficult for others.

This is a cut and paste from global chat:

"7 more butterflies for Neva Neva. I suggest that Glitches Against Greed (GAG) fill Neva Neva and Ajaya Bliss with as many butterflies as possible!"

what is this game about, making it annoying for everyone else? seriously Devs, you need to do something about these people who are trying to ruin it for other people.

I come here to have fun, not deal with griefers. Devs deal with these jerks if you want people to stay around and play.

  • @tibbi i agree. giving rocks higher priority would solve the whole problem.

  • @Zimmi - Again, helpful. You might want to read back over the larger issue as opposed to snarking at people who don't feel like having a handful of players attempt to nerf their own methods of play because they're "doing it wrong".

  • I just don't see the problem.  If you don't like butterflies being there, milk them and they'll die soon enough; otherwise, the game allows you to choose what you interact with, and you can click on the rock instead of the butterfly.  Why is it a bad thing to put butterflies in mines?

  • It's not a bad thing when the idea isn't "Let's flood the rooms so people get driven out because I have spoken". That's where the problem comes in for me- the belief that seems to be on the rise that, when one person has a bee in their bonnet, it's okay to screw with other people so the people they disagree with have to conform to their idea of correct play. If everybody should be able to play the game the way they want, that includes the people "doing it wrong", and nobody should have to deal with petty control issues from one or two people who seem to think that everybody else needs to change their play to suit them.
As far as the butterflies go, whatever; I don't harbor enmity toward butterflies; it's the bigger issue. I'm just getting a tad annoyed with all the "I have spoken, and therefore will proceed to jack with people to suit my own ends" business. And if there's any question about whether or not that's the issue here, read the OP on the GAG thread and the follow-up comments and notice that while it's being couched as a grand experiment, "making the game better", etc, ultimately it has to do with driving people out of a few rooms because somebody takes issue with their mining there for some reason and is endeavoring to alter others' gameplay to suit their own designs.

  • +1 to butterfly nets and chicken traps
+1 to changing the order (or letting us set that as a preference) so mining rocks comes up first (also should fix problem of IMing other people on accident; I can't stand that and IMO that's a worse issue than the animal problems)
+1 to changing the menu items around (I would like to see Harvest for trees be the first menu item; Milk for butterflies when you get to a high enough AK level to not have to massage--otherwise Massage)
+1 to the pick having a wider range (this has come up numerous times and is still not fixed)
+1000 to butterfly milking messages not taking up the entire left side of your screen (has also come up numerous times)

-1 to devs again nerfing the game by determining what animals go where. This is a UI problem, NOT a "God" issue, and we don't need more game nerfing.

  • Game lawyering is the the same as RL lawyering, eventually the loopholes are bigger than the bandaids, and all it does is make everything complicated and annoying.  As soon as the Devs give in to a particular demand to restructure mining or butterflies or whatever, guess what?  The people who are determined to annoy you will find ANOTHER way to annoy you.  Rinse, Repeat.  We've proved that in this same thread with a number of examples.  What are you going to do about nuisance flour and water dropping?  Make the Dev's prevent dropping anything on a street that has ore stones on it, trees on it, any resources on it?  Yeah, that will work.

Yes, there are a lot of us who like the friendly people in the community, but once you get more than two people in the game, you will have at least three different ideas about what is best for the game or the most fun.  If you are playing a multi-player game, you are just going to have to deal with the fact that there will be other players.  And neither you nor the Devs will be able to completely control their actions, Guidelines or no.  Report Abuse in the cases where the staff really need to deal with it, and move on.  Unless you want the TS Staff to invent a personality test that everyone has to take before they can register as a player, so we let only the "right" people in.  I'm sure that would work splendidly too .... and get lawyered to death two seconds after the first person finishes it.

  • This is weird. Maybe it would be griefing if I dumped all my money into caterpillars and honey on the AH and totally filled the area with butterflies. Instead I made up a fricking hilarious militant organization, GAG, and used what I had in my inventory to make butterflies. If I happen to kind of believe in what I did, so be it. All I ask is that you stop trying to explode my head from a distance and try to have fun. Like I said in my other reply, make an organization to counter me, Deimaginators Into Mining (DIM) except maybe use a name that doesn't help my cause. = D

  • Not touching the griefing or not griefing.

But want to chime in to agree that the interface is a little... um, wonky? I want to pet and nibble piggies, not hit rename on them five times before I get the correct number of up arrow strikes. Milk the butterflies instead of singing to them and dying in an untimely fashion (I like to schedule my deaths around lunch please).

And so many more. Not just a couple, but dozens every game day I play. Frustration level is rising fast!

  • Theres plenty of griefing and it can get annoying, but what should devs do for miners, it's always what devs can do for miners. Miners seem to be a special breed of crybaby in this game. I know some cool miners - if youre cool you know who you are - but seriously, i think miners are catching silicosis or somethin.

  • Quit your whining get a die roll a rook problem solved. This is a care bear game but come on. What funny after a day of mining you realize that there are many many many many better places to mine.

  • I don't think the answer to this is intervention from devs.  One of the attractive and interesting things about Glitch is that we can do things like this - even if it's annoying to people, and I understand how it is.  I personally like mining in Ajaya Bliss - not because it is the best way to make money, but because it's fun hanging out in there and there's a weird pleasure in seeing a sparkly spawn and trying to get to it in time to share in the mining.

Anyway, the very fact that people can interfere and make nuisances of themselves is one of Glitch's charms, and it's fascinating to watch how different groups of people play differently.   I think Spittle has as much right to release butterflies wherever he wants as the miners have to mine wherever they want, and I would hate that to change.  If I wanted a scripted tightly controlled game play experience, I certainly wouldn't be in Glitch.
