What is the formula for the Magic Rock iMG?

I don't want to water down our imaginations down into numbers, but then again Tii deals with numbers, so let's ask Tii today, what is the formula of the Magic Rock iMG? Reveal your secrets please :D

This is what I know so far:
-Level influences the amount of iMG given.
-Interactions (including animals, resources, and icons)
-You get a base amount of iMG every game day no matter what

I (EDIT: used to) have no idea if it has to do with:
- Lots of Glitchen but little (1-2) interactions over 1 glitchen interacting with a whole street. Which is better?
- Does each resource have it's own iMG give per interaction, if so then what is it?
- Why did I get 1000+ iMG for the longest time, but awhile ago I got 975, then 915 the next day after. Does the base rate go down over time? What is going on here?

EDIT: All of these questions were answered and more! By Stoot! Scroll down to see! Thanks so much Stoot!

  • Hmm   Lųĉĩđεşş☼  :( I wish I knew. It's a mystery to everyone (to paraphrase the Original Zelda badly). I just take it as it comes lol, not very helpful but yeah I'm just happy for any little bit of imagination. And having a blast always, regardless of the numbers...not saying you're not, just saying that for me, the number game is WAY too complex.

    *hugs* and cheers :D

  • Mine is 210 everday, however, yesterday I received 295 (give or take). I only know of one person who has me on their sign post, and I think they only visit very rarely. So with only this info, I would assume one visitor would net me about 85 iMG. I'm sure there is more to it than just that, but that's all I got! Hope this kinda helps :D

  • I'm curious also.  I'd like to also know if we interact with our own resources if we get iMG also. I would have thought not, but I swear mine is different every day...and while I know my friends and I are trying to be good friendly patrons of each other's streets, get the feeling our own interactions with our own resources also count in the mix somehow (although maybe I'm just confusing the baseline iMG with my own use of my own resources).

Love all your questions though, and would love to have some idea of the right answers.

  • I think this is a question for the MathmaGlitchen.

  • @Muncey Mango: did you level up between yesterday and today?  Previously, I was receiving 210 iMG, but after I leveled up, I started getting 295.  I have not yet had anyone visit my street, but if one person wants to come over as an experiment, I'd be happy to report the findings!

  • @kittyface - I thought that, but I'm pretty sure I didnt level.....
Posted 6 months ago by Muncey Mango Subscriber! | Permalink
  • ...maybe I was mistaken. Today I got only 225 iMG.
Posted 6 months ago by >^.^< Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think I get about 555 which is what i also get if I grab the iMG in hell and probably also 80% or so. Just speculation and what my brain thinks.
Posted 6 months ago by Raktivist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Raktivist, I think you're onto something there -- my base value right now for Magic Rock iMG is 375, which is also what I get for a qurazy quoin grabbed without high-mood bonuses.

I  think we'd need to have some people running experiments and keeping track of what they did when/where to figure out how much we get for various visitor actions.

  • The maximum amount you can get from visitors' activity on your home street is determined by your level.

The default amount you get (whether or not anyone does stuff on your street) is 20% of the maximum.

Each action a visitor takes (harvesting, petting, nibbling, digging, mining, scooping, reflecting, scraping, etc., etc.,) gives a fixed amount of iMG, up to the maximum stated above.

Since you get the default amount anyway, the absolute maximum amount you can get is equal to 120% of the maximum amount you can get from visitors' activity on your home street (since you can get 100% of that, plus 20% more as the default, which you get no matter what).

  • Thanks for breaking it down stoot.  Yea, when I checked in tonight, I realized the rock told me that it's only visitor actions that get you anything.  Good to know it's the same no matter what you do.  I'll make a point of attempting x # of actions daily on my friends' streets then...vice wondering if mining a rock might net more iMG for them than petting a tree.  Also good to know there is a maximum per player.  Makes me feel like I'm not missing out by not being on a resource route, when I know I have great friends who are already visiting.

For the record, I harvested my iMG right before a new day, and then right after a new day - so at level 26, I got 255 iMG at the new day (which tells me that at my level my 100% would be 1275).

  • Do the actions performed *inside* another glitch's house give them iMG as well?

  • I had fifteen wood trees (and no other resources, including animals) on my home street for a while, with lots of people coming to harvest, and still got the same default amount of iMG from my rock every day. Last night I switched the wood trees to fruit trees and lo and behold, I'm suddenly getting extra iMG from the rock!

Is this a mechanic everyone but me already knows about?

If so, I think it's a bit odd. I mean, I guess it makes sense, since harvesting wood trees doesn't get me iMG when I do it, so why should it get me iMG when a visitor does it? I can't believe it took me so long to figure it out, though. I mean, it IS a form of harvesting, ha.

Is the same true for visitors harvesting fireflies?

  • Hey, level 35 here, one day I started screaming and jumping and waving in Global inviting people to come by my street and do whatever they wanted, that day I got 1950 IMG and a few blocks from Global.

    Worthed.

Also math is hard, Stoot explained that is 20% of the maximum and I really still don`t know how much is the cap of IMG I could get from the rock. The maximum of the what? what is my maximum IMG? the maximum actions of others? what is the maximum action? I really don`t know and feel like a stupid moron.

Someone should give a "hey dummy, this plus this equal this BECAUSE of this" explanation and do an example with apples or oranges or some fruit.
Posted 6 months ago by Mikah Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Mikah, do you ever have a day where no one at all visits your street?  If you do, then give us the amount of iMG you get from the rock on that day and we can do the apples and oranges.

Until then, I don't think we've had enough experience to deduce the formula for calculating your maximum.

  • At level 50, my default seems to be 715 iMG, which is 20% of 3575. I think. 3575 in turn is 1/260th of what I need to level up (929,508 iMG). I think.

Meanwhile in my little level 16 alt, where I need 27,105 iMG to level up, the default seems to be 127 iMG. This is 20% of 635, which in turn is about 1/43rd of what's needed to level up. I bet there's a better way to say this than using ridiculous fractions. Okay this is why I don't do math.
Posted 6 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • No, Siren, you're fine xD I'm sure you could convert them to percents if you really wanted. I think what you've illustrated, that the fraction gets much smaller as you level up, still comes through fine and... Is very interesting ;)
Posted 6 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ha, I honestly have no idea how to turn 1/260th into a percent. I know it's super easy; I just ... that is not my smart corner.

    *hangs head*
Posted 6 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sirentist:  Fractions to percents:  convert to decimal and then multiply by 100.

    1/260 ~=  0.0038 = 0.38%.

If in doubt, do a sanity check:  1/100 is 1% and 1/260 is a bit over 1/3 of that, so it seems right.  Easy peasy, yes?  :)
Posted 6 months ago by Meromorphic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "convert to decimal" is arithmetic speak for 'divide the top of the fraction by the bottom of the fraction".

    1 divided by 260 = .0038
    .0038 times 100 = .38 or about one-third of one percent.
Posted 6 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Morthis Whisperwing: Hmph. Well, when you put it THAT way, it's super obvious.

    *scowls*

    Edited to add:

@WindBorn: Wait a minute. .38 is one third of one percent? I thought it would be one third of 100 percent?

    Accckkkkk
Posted 6 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • .38 the decimal is 38% :) But .38% is .38%, since you're using the percentage symbol to indicate such.
Posted 6 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So my total iMG that I can get from visitor actions on my street is about a third of one percent of the total iMG I need to level up.

    ... right?

Edited to add: Wow. That doesn't sound like much. I guess I won't rely on visitors to get me moving up the levels ladder, ha!
Posted 6 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • 1% = 0.01
    so
    0.33% = (1/3)*(1%) = (1/3)*0.01 = (0.33)*0.01 = 0.0033 = 0.0033*1 = 0.0033*(100%) = (1/300)*(100%)

    Does this help?

    ...but 0.38 is much closer to 3/8 = 0.375
Posted 6 months ago by >^.^< Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Sirentist: That number appears to vary by your level, as we can see from the example of the level 16 person who gets a larger fraction (1/43 instead of 1/260).  But yes, I don't think this is intended to be a person's sole method of leveling up.
Posted 6 months ago by DJ Plaid Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @smiley cat face: The last sentence helped! The other stuff just made me want to get out the fly swatter and smack at things.

What I get from all this is after a certain level, the rock will never give more than 1% of the total iMG needed to level up.

Edited to add: And in fact will continue to give a smaller and smaller fraction of 1% as you level up.
Posted 6 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes :D But in absolute terms the rock gives some pretty sweet deals at higher levels! Since a snap filter upgrade costs 150i the rock gives very high level players enough in one game day to totally trick out their cameras! Snappy :P

But it is true that when your donation limit is in the hundred thousand img, the rock's 1.5k donation to your cause looks a lot less significant.
Posted 6 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So what about glitches jumping on the roof of my house. Does that influence iMG at all?

How about if they "do stuff" up there? I leave lots of stuffs up there. My rock does not approve.
Posted 6 months ago by LisaNH Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I went to a friend's street and seasoned piles of beans to see if that would have any effect on her rock's iMG and ... nada.

    Edited to add:

In other words, it's not just any activity a visitor performs. It seems that you'll only get iMG from the rock when visitors perform iMG-generating activities with resources (or icons) that you've placed. Where "iMG-generating" means they get iMG from the activity.
Posted 6 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sirentist:

The decimal  .0038 is like the decimal .50

When you convert them to percentages (the step where you multiply by 100) they turn into .38% and 50%

So, yes  .38% is just a little above 1/3 of 1 percent.
Posted 6 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think I've missed where the "img-generating" bit originated from, but according to stoot's comment above, interacting with animals would also count as an Activity here...
Posted 6 months ago by katlazam Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @katlazam, yeah, that should count, since the animals are resources you place on the street, and since in general (out in the world of Ur) interacting with animals generates iMG.

I was just using that phrase to account for why visitors harvesting one's wood trees wouldn't generate "rock" iMG, even though it might seem to fall under the action of harvesting.
Posted 6 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Okay, just to make things more confusing, this game day when I went in as my level 16 alt, the rock was there offering 117 iMG. The last game day, it offered 127. (I checked my activity log and these numbers are accurate.) There are absolutely NO resources available for visitors to interact with on my alt's home street -- no trees, no rocks, no icons, no animals, nothing.  So ... where did that additional 10 iMG come from? It can't be the mere act of someone visiting my home street, because in my main account I had tons of visitors and was still receiving the exact same amount of iMG each day.
Posted 6 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • *looks at those numbers with a lot of .0000 and % and math stuff and backs away from the thread*
Posted 6 months ago by Mikah Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Siren, this might (does) sound like a stupid question, but how do you check your activity log? Do you mean there's somewhere you can see how many people have been to your street?
Posted 6 months ago by Mildmay Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Midmay, no ... I just hadn't done much in that alt since the previous day so I could still see the notification of how much iMG I'd gotten from the rock. I just meant I knew the two numbers were accurate because I could see both of them still in the activity log.
Posted 6 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh I see! Thanks for the explanation. My hopes were up that there was some sort of log for everything.
Posted 6 months ago by Mildmay Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The only thing I hate from Glitch is that the answers to any question is allways a complicated multi step calculation process.

Dear devs, next time use a system that can be explained saying stuff like "Oh, is twelve, that´s it" or "of course! is either one or two... anything else?"

    Thanks.

  • If what she writes in that post is true, that's pretty annoying. As a member of the herb garden route, I do a LOT of weeding, watering, planting. It would be nice if those (rather tedious) actions counted as well.
