Street Project Phases: Items and Skills Required

Ever wonder what “Finish the Job” will need? Or “Schmooze,” or “Plant & Certify,” or “Miscellaneous”? Well now you don’t need to wonder anymore! You can see it all here, where I’ve uploaded a Google doc that tells all of the items you’ll need for those phases, with occasional details about # of items needed and skills required for the work. For those of you who are hunting for trophies, I hope that you will find this information useful.

Is sharing this information a good thing? I’m not so sure, but I hope that in the long-run, street projects will be fun for everyone who wants to join them. Cheers!

  • This is great work, Melody, and I am sure that people will use the info in many different ways as it suits them. I can see new-to-projects players looking at it to get a better sense of what a standard project might require, so they can plan their own gathering/making strategy around that.  I can see players continuing to focus on their primary skills (for instance, I carry bigger bags full of all ore types, all the time, but no produce) waiting and coming to projects to dump in what they have on them.  I can see even more players coming to projects with a moderate set of stuff for a phase, such that the percentages even out even more, and work skills make the difference (at which time one's energy tank/eating strategy comes into play, among other things).

I think that any sharp movement in the balance of those three types (and all the others) will jog the TS data scientist(s) and devs to look at things more closely, if they're not already.  That's a good thing.  It might also be the case that those player types (and all the others) move somewhat synchronously, in which case nothing would actually change in the overall picture -- some people will have a great time at projects (trophy pieces or not), some will feel left out, some will find projects just aren't for them.

But above all, simply exposing the data is a great thing (and not because data is HAWESOME, although it is.)

ETA: I just thought of another use case: auction planning. Knowing ahead of the time that a phase in 20 minutes will require lots of talc, one could expect prices to increase around that time. OR, people know to start barnacle parties a little sooner, and the economy remains relatively sane. :)

In the end, I do like that even if you know what the phases are, you still have to monitor chats/groups/the community and sync your work/travels accordingly.  Having the data doesn't really change that.

  • Thanks so much for posting this and sharing with the community.  This was a ton of work to collect all this data!
