"when will it open?" threads

Sorry, guys, but these things get old. The devs will open the game when the game is ready. There is at least one of these threads after every single test, and it isn't necessary. Tests normally open Wednesday/Thursday. Please, be patient and leave it at that. Thanks :)

  • I know it gets old, but I still think it's quite understandable that people want to know as early as possible. People can be patient, but it helps to give them a rough time frame of how long they need to be patient for.
Could easily be eliminated if at end of game an announcement said "Next test expected on *insert day here*"  I'd assume staff have a rough idea of next opening dates already, even if nothing's set in stone,  and they don't just wake up one morning in the week, get to work and say "Opening now!".
That way if anyone made a "When will it open?" thread, they could just be directed to where it says.
I don't think the When will it open questions will ever stop pre-launch, as it the thing that people want to know the most.

  • I totally agree with Ebil. And "I DO SUPPORT" opening the "When will it open" threads... Totally.. shows how much people love glitch and are excited for the next opening. It also brings the glitch community to socialize in the forums.

  • First place I go when I log in is the "when will it open" threads in the forums. :) Like just about anything else in life, if you don't want to read it, scroll past. I am very IMpatient, and can't wait for the game to open!

  • +1 Cupcake, but even though I don't start those, sometimes I post in them (bad Rascalmom; *holds out wrist for slap*).

  • Me too..always looking for those threads :-) We LOVE glitch.

  • I do understand that people want to know when the next test should be so it's understandale when these threads start.....but please browse the forums first before starting one. The *multiple* threads asking the same thing are annoying. It's always on the first page.....it's not like they have to use the awkward search feature.

  • +1 Ebil & +1 Heyoheya It is understandable that people want to know when the game they love will be back. And no one forces anyone to read those threads. As far as the multiple threads go, perhaps if there was a good search function or a categorized forum there would be less duplication.
Posted 17 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • hehe RM ;)

arizoo: how is politely requesting that people be a bit more patient annoying? I was just stating an opinion. I find nothing wrong with "WWIO" threads, just wish people would keep them to a bare minimum, and keep in mind that the devs ARE working as hard as possible, and that as testers, we really have no entitlement (as laurali says) to knowing exactly when it's going to open.

  • I haunt the when will it open thread waiting for someone to say it is open! I don't have twitter :/

  • +5 Audaria, good search function, I vote for that!
Posted 17 months ago by arizoo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I personally just see the 'when will the game be open' threads as a bit of fun. Somewhere to get together in the forums. Nothing wrong with that. I don't think anybody really intends to put some sort of pressure on the TS team as we all know that the next test will be when they are ready and not before on account of our nagging.

  • Tricky!! FS Hugs! I view these types of threads as the online gaming equivalent of a crowd at a concert clapping and cheering the band to try and get an encore ;)
Posted 17 months ago by Reni's Mum Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Those don't bother me.
It's the nasty, snarky, gotta put someone down to make themselves feel superior comments that I see being posted more and more in some threads that irritate me.

I, personally, like knowing an approximate day/time when I can look forward to testing, again.
And, like a few others, it's one of the first threads I head to - just in case :D
Posted 17 months ago by sgjo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Umm how about we change it to "Is it Wednesday/Thursday yet" threads lol

  • Me also granny,I have Drs appts and many other appointments that can be changed,I always look for ,the thread :when will it open " hoping for a dev or staff to give approx time.so I can change appts.to allow me to play.As for those blathering frog people who always have to slur crap on everyone about what they think.welllllll.down my back like water on a duck and sail away laughing.

  • I think people always start new threads because the old threads are for past tests.....

  • Cupcake : The reply was to MaryLiLamb, that said it was annoying having multiple treats about "when it will open again"... i apologize for not putting the@. I never saw a dev complain about the quantity of treads about "opening dates". Last test for example only took 2/3 days, so it´s normal that people feel in a rush to play this. " The devs will open the game when the game is ready" this is not a good thing to do, in that logic it could open only next year or in 2050... people spend lot of time here, they have the right to know something. I understand that you, laurali like so many others loved the old days, but it's different now, the number of people here is rising and rising with each test.

SO... It´s perfectly normal that people want to know when it will be open again...
Posted 17 months ago by arizoo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Pepper_Rose has been great about telling us when the next test will be, so I agree completely with Cupcake.  There's no need for these threads.  Everyone knows that everyone wants to play again.  Also, the other day there were four topics covered by eight separate threads on the first page of the general forum, merely because people didn't scroll down to read thread subject lines.
Posted 17 months ago by glum pudding Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i don't mind the topics one way or the other, but it would be nice if people put dates in the topic title.
Posted 17 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Minus 1.
Sometimes the devs actually do pop in to these threads to tell us when the game will open.
    Live and let live.
    Viva la When-Will-It-Open Threads!

  • Devs could announce tentative test times on the home page, and then we wouldn't have to go through three WWIO threads per week, hoping for a shred of useful information.

    :D

  • +1 Cupcake  However, many new and enthusiastic players are regularly joining now and may not have a sense of the testing schedule and many more experienced players, like me, really appreciate being able to re-arrange one's  life around glitch (Oh---I'm such a glitchoholic---lol)

Maybe ts is at the point where PR could start a staff thread immediately after a test ends to preempt  multiple "when's next test" threads, with the caveat that nothing is in concrete and we will be kept advised when specific information becomes available. I know it's usually on the home page, but some players check the forums first. The blue "Staff" instigator flag would funnel folks to that thread. Also, if it was a staff initiated thread it would keep folks from having to search  multiple threads for a staff response, because a staff response is quickly covered by the next poster. Oh well, just a thought.

  • Or they could just "sticky" it so it stays at the top. Afterall, what people want to know the most when the game is "off" is when it will be back "on" again!
Posted 17 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • + 1 Rachel and Audaria. I hate going through the WWIO threads over and over again to find a clue (although it gives me something to do while I wait "patiently"). Although I think wanting a dev to start a thread right after a test closes is a bit too much, I love the sticky idea.... err.... idea of a sticky..... uhh... a post that stay at the top of the general forums page. yeah, that's it.

  • WWJD in a WWIO thread?

Sorry the acronyms are so similiar, I had to say it :)
Posted 17 months ago by MaryLiLamb Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 Spellbound. I see a lot of talk of "entitlement," here and in other threads. Maybe I'm missing something. (I don't think I am. Unless there are forum rules of which I am unaware. I don't think there are.)
Posted 17 months ago by Heyoheya Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ahh, MLL ... WWJD? -  He'd probably want to know WWIO, too :D :D :P
Posted 17 months ago by sgjo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 for WWIO threads - they're a bit of fun, if you don't like them skip over them and they'll drop off the first page.
+1 for multiple threads - I'd rather read another short thread than scroll through pages and pages of a month old thread looking for the devs dropping clues that it might open... soon.
We know we're not influencing the devs schedule (BTW what happened to being open for longer than being closed?)

  • Those threads are usually full of creativity and a great passtime for many of us. Right now, for example, there is one which evolved into poetry: look here.

  • +Lots Heyoheya
Unless those people are Tiny Speck staff, they have no business telling others what they should and shouldn't feel or post. So long as, as you say, providing it's civil.
You're not missing anything that I know of :)
Posted 17 months ago by Ebil Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sure, Ebil, but Cupcake's dad is a dev. She may have a diff. perspective on whether or not the threads are annoying to TS staff ;) Maybe, dunno. :)

  • @Rm, possibly.
I would have thought that if the devs have a problem with anything on the forums, that they'd post about it (or lock  the thread if it was that big a problem) themselves though.

Also, if the Devs do have a problem with people wanting to know opening times, then they shouldn't have made this game so addictive lol

I wasn't just +lots-ing what Heyoheya said in terms of this thread. More for these forums in general. This thread isn't nearly as pushy as some I've seen here, so sorry if it came across like I was having a go at Cupcake in particular. That wasn't my intention.   I like having discussions on here, and fully accept that everyone has the right to their own opinions, but when it turns into minimodding, which some people love to do here, then that, in my opinion, is wrong.
Posted 17 months ago by Ebil Subscriber! | Permalink
  • +1 Ebil. Said much better than me all the way around.
Posted 17 months ago by Heyoheya Subscriber! | Permalink
  • LMFAO SEE SEE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE! I want to find the jerk who was passive-aggressive with me when I said the same thing Cupcake said and throw this thread in his/her/whatever face but to be honest I still don't care enough to do so. :P

But yeah, THE INSTANT A TEST CLOSES: "WENN GAYM OPIN AGINZ?!?!!!!111!"

But I'll repeat what I've said earlier. The only thing that really bugs me about these kinds of posts is either 1) Someone has already asked and the answer can easily be found in the forums (meaning, inconvenience yourself by digging JUST A LITTLE instead of spamming with a bajillion threads on the same subject) or 2) people sometimes seem to DEMAND to know when they ask and no one here is obligated to tell them a damn thing.

  • Until the game is open 24/7 I'll want to know when the game will open.  That way I can get chores done (or put them off) so I can play for as much time as possible.

    +1 for a stickied thread.

  • Ebil, the devs might just be too nice:) or more likely just ignoring these threads altogether! Wasn't saying you were having a go at her at all. Just throwing light on the perspective she may have. As a guess:) I swear just trying to be helpful and not minimodding (I hope!).
