Hey Staff! Questions about the Rare Item Vendor

Some people are excited.  Some people are in a huff.  Some people are in a panic.  Some people are in a tizzy.  Some people have roast beef.  And some people have none.

Mostly, everywhere I turn I see questions and musings about the rare item vendor and its future.  It seems to be common knowledge or generally accepted or mathematically probable that there will a third shipment of these current items to the Rare Items Vendor.

But what is the future of the vendor?   Will this be a regular occurence, with new limited editions coming to the rare item vendor in the future?  Will they always be in these locations?   What happens when we sell a rare item back to a vendor [or is that supposed to even work]?

  • I asked stoot about this. He said the vendor will not always be there and may come back in the future.

  • hmmm, I wonder why they want us to spend all our hoarded currants? Or is this just an economic booster? Interesting.

  • It looks like they've been listening to you Sauce.  I'm impressed.

What I see is significant deflation in glitch.  We had inflation - lots of money chasing a limited supply of goods.  With this huge draw-down of the glitch money supply i'm seeing prices in markets I monitor go down - deflation, that is, more goods than money.

    And I'm broke.

  • WalruZ, I agree.  But, I don't like reading that these "limited items" will be "restocked".  This has caused me to be torn.  I hate that I have friends who could afford the goods who missed the "time".  I couldn't afford them (the big items), which I didn't like.  However, this "restocking" makes me a little worried for how the items were listed earlier.

Does "restocking" mean timed limited distribution?  Or adding more items?

  • The initial stocking of the items was only a portion of what they have listed as the total that will be in game.  For example, the spigots are listed as only 999 will ever be in game...however, they only stocked 111 at each of the three vendors (so that's only 333 in the first round of stocking).  So it makes sense there are 3 rounds of being stocked with items. I think the rest of the items were the same.

I suspect by the time the third round of stocking comes around, it will last a bit longer since those that have been sitting on tons of currants will have already purchased as many as they can and have depleted their currant supply, and those that really want those things that might not be able to afford it initially will have a little bit of time to go after them.  Of course, don't wait around...because since they are limited items (except for the trophy)...they won't be around forever, and once they are gone, they will be over-inflated in price in the market/auctions.

I'm glad to see they released the items in three phases (and we're still only in phase 2)...it actually gives more people a chance to get them, than if they had poured the entire stock into the vendors at one time.   And it's way cool that they numbered the items too...makes it feel like a real collectible.

  • Coming from higher-ups who I asked this same question was:  "...no more of that item will be released. "Forever (for now).  So buy at your own risk."  [editing to clarify previous quotes are direct from guide who asked staff]

    Again, "soon" we will see.

See if that 1.5mil c you spent on that chick cubimal was worth it since everyone can buy one for 50c later.

  • Rennie,  nobody said limited items will be restocked. The vendors might be back, carrying different items. That's all. Those that say "only xxx will ever be in the world" aren't going to be found at the vendors later. I trust TS :)

  • I agree they are only re-stocking to get to the total that they say they are releasing (300 Yeti etc).  I'm glad they are doing it in 3 waves so everyone has a chance to get one if they have the currents.  I also see friends really working for currents to get one of the rare items.

  • Ah Rennie, for example, the initial round was 99 yetis split between three vendors.  As each says, there will only be 300 in the world, but there are currently only 198, including the ones still on the vendor.

I do think it would be nice and fancy and stuff if the remainders could be added to the rube instead of the vendor.  For example, releasing 99 more yetis in round three and placing three yetis on the rube.

  • I like the idea of remainders being added to the Rube :)

  • i was hoping we could make it easier to get things that are "SO RARE" in the game.one said that they'll be 50c  later but: when they run out, they'll be selling for 100m or so.

  • Someone elsewhere suggested this is T.S.'s way of giving the second Beta Testers unique items that won't be available after the second release. I think that sounds plausible... it would also mean the release is coming soon...
Posted 4 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That would be really odd, since people easily could have joined during this beta and not been able to afford any of these items. It would be really unfortunate if they went unrewarded for their participation (strictly assuming that was the intention).

*Edit: Also, that would suggest that this was the only wave of items (barring another special sitewide event, I guess...) to be released to the Vendor. Which would also be a shame in my opinion, it's awesome for economy control! Haha.

On the flipside, this is giving those who never cared much for currants the impetus to find out how to earn a lot of them very quickly... so there will be more people with more money in the future.

Also, "everyone" is trying to buy rare items at the moment, so it's not surprising that prices are dropping for other things

  • just keep hoarding for next time.

keep your game focused on currants acquisition, or else you're going to miss out!

  • To the original questions:

"But what is the future of the vendor? Will this be a regular occurrence, with new limited editions coming to the rare item vendor in the future?  Will they always be in these locations?
    "

Once these items are gone, the vendors will disappear. They, or something similar, may come back in the future (though obviously not with these same items — there won't be more of those). Toy vendors will probably start selling the million currant trophy. The locations are just for these vendors, right now.

"What happens when we sell a rare item back to a vendor [or is that supposed to even work]?"

    It shouldn't work!

  • I have a question - Does anyone know if the last round of Yetis has been released? If not, when they might be released? Thanks for any info :)

  • I second Sadie's question:)

  • As of <---- this post no the third and final round has not been release.
Going by the numbers on the items in the vendor menu.

  • I hope they wait a while.  I am not even close to having enough money :(

  • Was this idea inspired by WorldsAway?

(Just curious, as a former WA addict:) )

  • So instead of having 100 yetis in-game and me being in the top 1% there are now 200 yetis, halving my exclusivity, with the potential of 100 more yetis further reducing my specialness to a mere and abominable 3%?
Posted 4 months ago by Mount Aspen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm not sure of the exact numbers but with the "phases" of sale, it's
*it's said there's going to be only X number of item in the game
*each of the three phases sells X/3 of those items

So no, Aspen, the exclusivity didn't go down (although you may have been confused about the value of X)
Posted 4 months ago by diaveborn ♥ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Going by the vendors themselves (at the time) I don't think there was any indication how many phases there would be, although that info was apparently available elsewhere. As for exclusivity it's a moot point because I couldn't actually afford a yeti. I do have a spigot though and it's at least 33.3% as exclusive as a yeti.
Posted 4 months ago by Mount Aspen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • No, there wasn't info about phases.  But the number that was shown of how many there will be in the game is accurate.  (If the number was 300 there would only be 300, released 100 at a time, for example, and not 300 for each phase)
