Takes 4/3 energy per ore to crush? Y so much?

With the best mining skill (5), it takes 7 energy to mine around 6-10 ores of a material. If you're mining with other players, you can easily make an extra 1-3 ores. So, it's easy to say that a character with max'd mining skill can get ores on a 1:1 energy:ore ratio.

Crushing on the other hand takes an insane amount of energy to do. It takes 4 energy, 3 energy with refining 2, PER ore to crush. So it takes 200 energy (150 energy with refining 2) to crush a stack of 50 ores. The ratio is 4:1 energy:ore crushed.

Why is it so much? My guy is level 16 and has 390 energy. I can crush around 125 ores (2 stacks of 50, 1 stack of 25) and it will consume all my energy. I can possibly meditate back up to 200 (i'm not sure of the daily limit) and use 5 medalions for another 100 energy, but that's still just 2 more stacks of 50 ores. I would be lucky to be able to craft a single set of Extremely Hallowed Shrine Powder with all that.

Again, why is it so much?

  • Flaming Humbabas will help you with this. No energy drain for grinding, it's under Cocktail Crafting 2.

As for the massive energy thing, I have no idea either, but it does seem a bit prohibitive.

  • I don't want to have to drink something to make the skill balanced. Also, I don't want to have to focus time on learning cooking skills if my character wants to focus on the right side of the skill list. That is what makes a community a community, different people with different skills.

Honestly, refining 2 should cut the cost down to 2 energy per 1 ore crushed. I feel that would be more balanced.

  • If you don't want to learn cocktail skills, then buddy up with someone who has them and would trade some of your products for theirs.  That's what makes a community a community, different people with different skills.

  • I like to have a balanced character to be able to do it all myself, but that does mean that I have to carry around a lot more items to do different things.  check for auctions, what's the point of having different skills if you don't interact with the people who have the other skills by buying from them and selling to them.  On the other hand, I could see another skill added to reduce the energy and time for crushing ore.

  • I actually find this to be one of the more logical interconnections in the economy of glitch. Grinding things to an ELEMENTAL level would of course take way more energy thab cracking rocks, btw. But its great - you need saucos andcr harvestables and cocktails and then you can crush your 1500 ore and make a couple ehsps - which are actually a coveted expendable item! so great. i wish all the systems were so interlocked. getting there, it seems :)

  • It is expensive to keep high level alchemical items from being worthless.
