The Glitch Helperator tool now exists

This is the official declaration of existence for the Glitch Helperator - a collection of Glitch related tools and things I've put together. More specifically:

Skill Tree: View an interactive tree of the skills laid out according to their dependencies. Hover or click on a skill to see its dependencies and its dependents.

Achievements: View all achievements grouped and categorized with those you've completed highlighted, and percentage complete per category. Includes hidden achievements not listed in the Glitch encyclopedia or API.

API Update History: A log of changes to achievements, skills, and streets in the Glitch API. For instance, see that the new Giant Lover achievement was added around the 13th. Also subscribe-able as an atom feed.

Favorite Streets: A notebook of your favorite streets. Annotate and add your current location to your list of favorite streets. Select one of your existing favorites to set as your destination.

Find Neartest Feature: Starting on your current street, find the street nearest you containing that for which you're looking.

If you try the Glitch Helperator let me know if you find issues or otherwise have comments. Thanks.

EDIT
I've opened a group Glitch Helperator Quemments & Bugs for reporting bugs, asking questions, and making comments related to Glitch Helperator.

  • Great tool!  I like the API thingy.

  • There's a link there to another API named "Glitch Academy". Never tried it, because it needs permission to modify my character. I mean, is it safe? Has anyone here tried it before? Just for integrity check. I'm just being cautious.

  • Nicely done!

    Small editing error:
. Click on a skill to see its requirements in green and the things that require it in red.

It appears to work the other way:  requirements in red and things that require it in green.

I've used Glitch Academy an number of times.  It starts your next skill without having to have your browser running.

  • Yes, Glitch Academy is safe.

  • I use Glitch Academy.  It's a skill queuer, and works well; haven't heard of any problems.  The API permissions messages are somewhat misleading -- many of the things it says you're giving permission for aren't supported in the API at all.

  • I must test Favorite Streets and Find Nearest Feature.

  • Nice! Will try it out. One minor quibble: is the bevel supposed to be stopping mid-button like this?
Posted 12 months ago by Caesura Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Caesura For me, it is even worse. Firefox 5 shows the button as a black background with black text and a grey outline. When I over the button, the outline and text turns orange.

The find nearest feature only finds things that are in my house like pig and wood trees. If I type in gas, spice, or anything else, it cannot find it.

Why are people creating so many "helper" sites with duplicated features such as achievements and finding the closest object?

  • I am also having difficulty with Find Nearest Feature.  I tried paper and shrines.  No go.

I like Favorite Streets so far.

  • Awesome. I think this is my favourite Achievements checker/site yet - love the way you've grouped them.

  • Make it play for me.

  • Love the one for Achievements!  Great job!!!!

  • @Macs: can you try upgrading to latest Firefox? I've only tested on latest IE, Chrome, & FireFox. I should add a note about that to the front page.

Homes don't work well with the Glitch API - it doesn't report any connecting streets. I'll do something about this.

I can't speak for others who have made duplicate tools but I can say for me: I started working on my tools before I saw other ones like it but I kept working on them afterward because I'm doing this for fun =)

  • @Caesura: what browser and version of that browser are you using? If not the latest version, can you see if the issue still occurs for you in the latest version of your browser?
Posted 12 months ago by SequelGuy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @WindBorn: I'll fix that. Thanks!
Posted 12 months ago by SequelGuy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Pming: Can you say what street you were on and the text you entered to look for?

I'm adding a link to Zog's tool that does a better job of this. The only benefit of this Find Nearest Feature tool is that you can control the freshness of the data from the Glitch API.

  • @SequelGuy: Almost! Also, using Chrome on a Mac.
Posted 12 months ago by Caesura Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Caesura: Weird - it is like it gets the length correct for the first one but then uses that same length for all the rest. I guess that's the latest version? I'll see if I can do something to fix that. May I ping you about it again in the future? I don't have a way to test Chrome on a Mac and I can't see the issue on Chrome on Win. Thanks!

  • To make things easier to keep track of, if you find new bugs please report in the group Glitch Helperator Quemments & Bugs that I've made for reporting bugs, asking questions, and making comments related to Glitch Helperator.

    Thanks!!

  • Kind of busy so this is late, but sure! Hit me up at the email in my profile if you want to raise me more surely then an in game message.

  • "Why are people creating so many "helper" sites with duplicated features such as achievements and finding the closest object?"

I think the biggest reason is that the current Glitch API is still rather limited, and so there are only a handful of meaningful things that you can do with it at the moment. People want to write third-party apps, but are constrained by what's currently possible, so they all end up writing pretty much the same things.

If you want to see more diversity in the kinds of third-party apps that are available, you need to encourage Tiny Speck to open up a wider set of API methods - that's the only way to get a more interesting set of "helper" sites.

Mind you, given the unlaunching, I'm not sure where expanding the API would sit on the priority list.
