Glitch Atlas: maps and search

I've been working on a fan site to help navigate the world or Ur since I was a wet-behind-the-ears Glitch.  The site has grown in information and functionality over the months since. While it will probably never be complete, it has a lot of functionality. (Data is continuously updated via the API so street info should be nearly real-time.)

Check out glitch-atlas.info and let me know what you think.  For a quick video tour, see the Help page.

  • Nicely done although there's a similar resource site. I'll be waiting to see what else the Atlas has to offer. (small thing though, it's Tiny Speck with a 'k'. xD)

  • I like it! I especially like having the street maps offline so I can study them more. :-)

  • @Kieley what other site? (I fixed 'Spec', thanks)

  • @Janitch http://glitch.alwaysdata.net/ well, it works differently but has the same function.

  • @Kieley Yeah, that is a nice site too, thanks for the link.  (I wish the game had a different name, as it's really hard to google anything related to it.)

  • that's neat!
    how about Naraka?
dunno where to put it on the map though
Posted 13 months ago by Lemo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Lemo It's unfortunate, but that street doesn't seem to be accessible through the API.  I hope they sort this out soon, as there are several unusual streets that would be really nice to have access to.

  • Thanks to the street location effort by Lemo and others, I've extended Glitch Atlas heatmaps to the region level.

Now, when you search by resources, you still see a world map with a heatmap of regions, but clicking on a region will take you to that region with its own heatmap of streets.

For example, before it was easy to see that Chakra Phool had the highest density of Jellisac, but now you can see which streets have the highest density too:  Glitch Atlas - Chakra Phool (yep, Livo Farce has 10).

  • Very nice idea with the heat maps on resources!

  • Oh, that's really good now. Congrats! And thanks!

  • Good job :]
Not a huge fan of the blue overlay though (I may have a solution for you later ;)
Sending you a mail about other stuff

  • Major update just made:
    - added searching for other rare street features (crab and such)
    - added a simple search mode (click the picture)
    - better feedback during loading

Try out the simple search mode: glitch-atlas.info/search.php
    - choose the continent by clicking the map on the left (or leave them all on)
    - choose the thing to search for in the accordion on the right
Search executes immediately (since you can only search for one thing at a time).

Advanced search mode (including the new rare features) is still available, click the "go advanced" link in the Simple Search bar.

Of course, you can still click through on the regions in the heatmap and get a region-specific page with the same search applied (and the region map rendered as a heatmap of the streets).

  • amazing! can't believe i hadn't seen your site before! excellent work on the features. i love the heatmap.

  • Another couple of updates; firstly: instant previews of what is in a region or street when you hover over it on the world or region map. Secondly: the default street tab page now has a listing of all streets and you can search by name.

If you recently used the site, please hit refresh to get all the latest assets.

Hovering over regions in the world map makes it really obvious that chickens rule the roost (as it were): glitch-atlas.info

The site is now starting to deliver on the "atlas" promise as a way to explore the world of Ur from outside the game.
Posted 11 months ago by Janitch Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And another big update: now the site will show your friends on the front page and show you where in the world map they are (or last were) when you hover over them.

Of course, you need to authenticate (read-only) for this to work and so you'll find a discreet link at the bottom of the page to do so.  Even if you don't authenticate, all non-social features of the site still work as always.

  • Hey good stuff
I hope you server is not gonna crash with those people with 500 friends :p

  • Glitch Atlas is now quite extensive, so I posted a quick video tour showing the various features of the site in its current form.
Posted 10 months ago by Janitch Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That's neat. I need a video like that for my stuff
Posted 10 months ago by Lemo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It is not the same as the Glitch Resource Database because it shows by region instead of by street, which may be more useful when gathering resources.
Posted 10 months ago by AwesomeCardinal2000 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Okay, Cardinal... But she's making this site for a completely different service.

    I like it! +1
Posted 10 months ago by SeerQueen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • While there is overlap with the excellent Glitch Resource Database in terms of search, I think the Atlas presents things in a different enough way that both are useful.  Kudos to Linnæa for GRDB (which did come first).
