One of the things that drives me crazy about this game is the awkward management of basic resources that we keep in our houses. I made another thread about giving us more options to stack items more efficiently for storage/use but I realized its the storage that bothers me the most. Besides killing my game with lag, crazy backyards are just a sign that we don't have storage options that accurately reflect how we normally play the game. I think most players throw the resources they use the most on the ground because they know how cumbersome the bag system is for frequently acquired and used items. It just doesn't work.
I don't think Tiny Speck should accommodate every outrageous hoarder, but it seems like it should be simpler to store reasonable amounts of items that we consistently use or hold on to.
Since I like to make my own powders I like to keep 500 or so of each rock on hand, is there any reason why I can't deposit this small amount into a mining silo, rather than using 4 random bags or keeping it in weird piles in my backyard? Shouldn't a cook be able to deposit 250 of each vegetable type in farming silo, or place milk and cheese in a fridge?
I think it would be nice if they were deposited into a giant mega-stack so we could keep track of totals, and then let us pull it back out 50 or 80 at a time. But if this is not possible I would still like it even if they ended up as reskinned storage closets.
Imagine if instead of grabbing tomatoes from "Vegetables 2," olive oil from "Sauces and Oils," and looking around for the blue bag marked "Dairy" to grab some butter, you just withdrew what you needed from the silo, cupboard and fridge. A lot simpler.
Perhaps we could use imagination plus expansion items to increase the max stack size or the number of slots available. For example a mining silo that moves from a maximum of 250 per rock type to 500, 750, then ending at 1000.
I'm used to the inventory system as it is, but if you think about it enough, it doesn't really make sense that in a game with hundreds of different items that the best we have been offered is 5 colors of bags that we can drop in random locations. The confusion it creates could become an issue for new players or people who do not play many video games, becoming a barrier for prolonged enjoyment of the game.
Hopefully they have already been working on this, but I still wanted to throw it out there.
