Piggy Feeding Strategies?

I currently have three piggies in my backyard. I don't have RHK, but I want to make sure the stay well fed. Has anyone found an optimal feeding strategy? More specifically:

1. How much does a piggy need fed to stay healthy and happy?

2. How often?

3. Does feeding them crops in order to get seed from their plops work better, worse, or the same, as feeding them grain?

4. How much food do trees give them? How many tree does one piggy need to get enough food?

I'm building my way up to RKH, but until then I want to make sure my piggies are taken care of.

  • 1.  1 garden vegetable, not sure the equivalent in grain.

    2.  They will eat once per Glitch day, but they seem to be able to go for an RL day or two without eating and without dying.

    3.  I noticed no difference.

    4.  If they have access to one tree, they should be completely taken care of as long as you come through regularly to pet, water, and therefore restore the tree.

I killed a lot of pigs before I learned RHK, so take my thoughts with a pinch of salt.  The regular stuff, not the krazy kind.

  • They eat from trees when you harvest from them. I used to feed mine grain what I dropped on the floor before I moved to my current house. I feed hungry piggies I meet a Meat xD And yes, they seem to eat once a Glitch day, but as far as I have seen they can go a real day or two without food. I have never accually used a Piggy Feeder since its been no need since I moved since I have trees and before I didn't have the skill.

  • My pigs are in a pen, and my trees are in four patches outside the pen.  I'm not clear on how pigs can feed on trees.  Are they let loose in the backyard?

  • Pigs are just a bother unless you have RHK.   Go nibble the ones on the street.

  • If pigs are in a pen, they will not nibble on your trees. They will either need a feeder or grain strewn on the ground.

  • @Peachesan: try this next time when you harvest the trees - wait til some of them are gathered at the pen's entrance, then harvest - you will see the piggies go "Yum!". It's an adorable sight, and happens pretty often. Besides feeding my piggies grains and crops, I see these harvesting yums as treats for them between regular feedings.
