Can you guys use salts in your password table if you aren't already?

Recent coverage of the HBGary hack makes me alarmed. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainb...

Egaltine, you seriously have nothing to be afraid of, I don't see why you see the need to use salts. The reason HBGary was hacked was because of their dealing with wikileaks. Anonymous NEVER hurts anyone as long as they're not oppressing human rights (or harming cats).

It really saddens me that these people who actually mean well are treated like internet terrorists. Oh well.

  • Or when they're raiding Wikipedia; specifically, the article on Java, right before I had a comp sci paper due on Java. It was a fun day.

  • Crime rationalization is not a good sign. I'm not that desirous for high security here, but I certainly won't mind if it happens.

  • RobotGymnast: That was not anonymous, that was a few brain-dead individuals who think it's fun to mess around with things, and say "LOLOLOL IM ANONYMOOSE" just because they know what it is. The actual organization doesn't do stuff like that.

Also, protip: Don't use wikipedia :D

  • Your passwords are stored as salted hashes. But I'd still suggest you use 1Password ( agilewebsolutions.com/onepa... ) for added protection.

  • Gawker was hacked and they have zero to do with wikileaks. Hackers are everywhere and almost none of them are as nice as the folks from Anonymous.

    Thanks Bees!

  • What level of Cheffery does it take to make salted hash?

  • I just use LastPass. Also, secure, non-redundant passwords ftw (http://xkcd.com/792/).

    Edit: Feck unintentional double post.
