New preference available: choose whether the Up Arrow key acts the same as enter/select

It used to be that when there was a door, a signpost, or an item glowing behind your avatar, the UP and W keys would work like the ENTER key to activate it. As that behavior seems have to caused an unnatural level of grief among a certain population of users, we have removed it. And we have added a preference so that anyone caused an unnatural level of grief by the change can get the old behavior back (hit the COMMA key, or open the player menu in the top left of the game client and choose "Preferences" to open your preferences).

You may have to reload to see the change.

  • Maybe it's a left handed thing, as I only use the up arrow for..well everything really.

  • If you turn the up arrow off then you can't climb vines any more.

  • yup.. up arrow doesn't allow climbing action (unless preferences are set to act like enter)  strange, but odd

  • Thank the Giants! That up/enter thing was mighty confusing when trying to climb near a signpost.

  • That navigation change subtly but continuously annoyed me as I navigate using the cursor keys and often 'grab' stuff I come across with a swift up motion on the pad, thanks for not spoiling it by making it optional. What has occasionally annoyed me in the past is 'up' pressing to grab a bonus Quoin rube prescence or other option and accidentally hit a single choice tag such as subway station or one stop direction post and bail out of the level thus losing the randomly appeared choice, if it gave me an 'are you sure' advisory at that point I'd be a lot happier.

  • This is awesome.  When I'm keyboarding, I use the up/W instead of enter a lot of times out of hand placement convenience.  However, when I'm using my gamepad, the D-Pad is very sensitive and it's too easy to slip "up" when I'm trying to run side to side.

Thank you for giving us an option of turning this on and off.  I know I'll find it very useful ^_^

  • Might I ask how you're playing Glitch using a gamepad? It sounds interesting, and I must try it.

  • Justin, try using JoyToKey- it maps the buttons and sticks on a gamepad to keyboard keys, letting you use virtually any program with a gamepad.

  • OH THANK GOD. I came to the forums specifically to figure out why my up arrow wasn't working anymore. I'm so happy I can re-enable it. <3
