Let players use the 1M trophies as bonds!

In the real world, there are some assets that maintain a relatively constant value with respect to inflation. This provides an easy way for people to liquify or solidify their wealth as needed.

The closest things to glitch that would match this are ingots (ie the molybednum standard). Unortunately Ingots, like everything valuable in the glitch world, can only be redeemed for a fraction of their value. Rather than change the implementation for established resources, how about adding functionality to an existing item?

If the 1M trophies could always be bought or *sold* for 1M at the vendor, it would give wealthy players a physical way to display their wealth without "losing" it to a form that isn't spendable in the future. Plus, let's be honest: aren't decadent displays of wealth the reason this trophy exists in the first place? I wouldn't mind having 3 or four of them sitting on the desk in my tower.

  • I'm not an economist but I think the trophies provide a mechanism for taking some money out of the game and therefore drive down inflation.  There's a risk that the game just gets too much cash in it.

  • Also, what's the point of having trophies as 1M bonds when currants are only realistically going to be worth less over time, not more, due to inflation?

Rare cubis (Rook, Rube) or unbuyable rare items are a much better investment, because their value in currants will rise.

  • Agreed with Loupin, the high end items are mostly money sinks.

  • Everyone makes good points here! I'd like to add that the rare vendors are likely to be regularly restocked with different, high-priced rare goods. Since limited items in glitch will always be coveted, there will always be a reliable way of removing currants from the economy. People will still continue to sink currents to the rare vendors regardless of a change to the trophy.

The purpose of my proposal was not to guard against inflation (as Ferozstein mentions, cubimals are good for that), but to provide a way to solidify (i.e. display) wealth without losing it. Currants cannot be displayed. Trophies can. This is simply an aesthetic conversion I'm pitching. Converting the display of your currants from a number only you can see to a trophy everyone can see requires no subsidy and neither adds nor removes anything from the economy.

  • Just for info's sake, rare cubimals (rooks rubes) as previously mentioned should theoretically go down in price consistently through time.

Anyone wanna guess why? Just kidding, I'll tell you!

Because you can still make more of them exist. Every Series1 box opened is a chance to create another of them. If supply is consistently rising, and demand remains mostly stagnant (very few new players to want them, as we are still technically closed so the new players are coming in at a slow trickle) then the price should be going down.
Except it's not (for the moment), for whatever reason.

The only things that are "guaranteed" (ish) to go up are those with limited numbers. Recalled items like old poison+antidote, beta pickles, Only This Many Exist rare items.
Anything where the potential for more to come into existence is theoretically an unsound investment.
