Is My Mood Dropping Faster?

I may be misinterpreting things, but I believe I have seen the following. Since the IMG changeover, I've bumped my energy (and mood) tank up to over 4,000. As usual, both energy and mood drop periodically regardless of activity. I believe this drop is greater than before, probably a percentage of the full tank. If I'm correct, then the downward force of mood is greater while the upward forces (petting, nibbling, etc) have remained the same. If find that simply maintaining 90% mood now is quite difficult, where previously it was fairly easy.  A trip through the AL or drinking a Savory Smoothie has only part of the effect (percentage wise) that it formerly had.
I can't complain about the energy aspect, since energy at the bottom of the tank is just as valuable as energy at the top. But since mood level affects iMG rewards, it is significant.
Perhaps the Devs have thought about this and determined that the benefit of the bigger tank is greater than the need to do more mood maintenance. I dunno, but I'm curious first if my observations are correct and second if they've thought about this consequence.

  • I've been noticing increased energy and mood loss as well
Posted 7 months ago by Noenell Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The short answer to your question is yes, your mood and energy are dropping faster. It is a percentage of total energy per minute. Someone who has paid more attention to it could probably tell you what that percentage is.

That is the reason there have been several posts on the forums about pros and cons of increasing your energy tank. And also why there are groups of Glitches (myself included) who avoid energy increase cards like the plague. iMG is too important to me and I don't want to be constantly working to keep my mood over 90%

For what it's worth I believe the devs designed it this way intentionally. If there was no disadvantage to a bigger energy tank then everyone would increase theirs to the max and food would become obsolete.

It would be nice if there was a warning on the upgrade card about the drop percentage increasing on both mood and energy though. That way people don't do what you did and get a giant tank only to find they can't keep their mood up.

TLDR: Don't buy energy upgrade cards unless you're prepared to constantly fight to keep your mood maximized.
Posted 7 months ago by SkyWaitress Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah energy tank upgrades are more of a penalty than a bonus after you have about 1k energy.

I wish there was an upgrade that lowered your max energy actually.

My advice if you have a large energy tank it so use rookswort, die frequently and use the get out of jail cards, and abuse the hell out of no no.

The meat smoothies are also very important. Meditating while you do other stuff is also a good idea. Also use your icons.

  • I'm going to be a bit contrary (even though my name is not Mary). I love having a large energy tank. When I was a young Glitch, and again after the imagination reset, I got all tense and stressed about running out of energy. Face it, if your energy depletes, you can't do anything. If your mood depletes, you can still do stuff. So I'm fine with having a large tank.

Having a large energy tank being a trade-off with mood decrease rates is a smart move IMO. It definitely forces you to make a choice about how you play.

My solution to the fast-dropping mood gauge and consequent iMG reduction is to not care. So it will take me 10 days instead of 7 - or 1 month instead of 2 weeks - to amass enough iMG for whatever I'm trying to get next. Whatevs. As long as I still get to play Glitch and do the fun stuff I enjoy, I'm happy to let it take longer.

ETA: I'm being contrary because I'm not going to react with alarm because higher energy = rapid mood loss. I don't think it's cause for alarm, really. Of course, that's only my choice for me.

  • I have an energy tank of 8050 so far. And my mood is NOT going down faster.

The reason is that at the same time I have increased my energy tank, I also have increased my Quoin Multiplier: it is now at 84.4 x

You have to use cards for both.

  • Another way of dealing with depleted mood, and energy, is to log out until the next game day.  Give your glitch a rest!  It's what I do out of RL scheduling necessities, but it serves quite well.  And the large tank means that I can get more stuff done in a day before I log off and do my chores or go to work or head to bed.

I think the system does allow for a great deal of flexibility in game play, particularly if you can plan on how to build your character.  And while a warning would be nice on the cards, this kind of information in most other games is usually saved for player-to-player communications and strategy guides!  Of which, we have both.

  • Percent mood loss hasn't changed it's 1.5%/minute.

There isn't a new game mechanic at work for the card to warn you about.

It'd be the same as the card warning that you will lose 0.8% energy/90seconds.

  • Honestly I think that Glitch should not penalise those of us who like playing for looooong stretches at a time.  We were rewarded before by larger energy tanks with each level up, and a high mood, and the ability to do more stuff before our energy tank would run out.  Now we're getting penalised for playing a long time.. if you have to recommend someone not play in order to get more out of the game.. something is seriously wrong.  :: shakes head ::

Furthermore I feel a tremendous pressure to keep my mood maxed now, that I didn't feel before, because now there are consequences to not getting max iMG from every action you do in the game.. before, it didn't matter as much, it just took a little longer to get to the next level.  Now you are denied the ability to do certain things like expand your yard or change styles now if you don't have enough iMG.  This is something we didn't have to worry about before.  :(

I enjoy playing, I just want to say, the devs and TS team need to figure out a way to not penalise those of us who, when we play, want to play for hours and hours and hours at a stretch.

  • See, because of Rookswort and Quoin Multiplier Cards and drinks, I don't see it so much as a penalty as an extra challenge.  If you can afford to play longer, then you get more of an actual game to play!

One thing I do, to get the most out of my time, is to start the day with my highest iMG yield activities, and finish off with construction and cultivation.  Though, decorating first is fine, if I've got the furniture, as you don't lose anything while doing that.   It just so happens that one of my best methods of racking up iMG, hoeing my gardens, also yields me a massive boost to mood at the same time.

See, it's a strategy!  And there's more than one in this game.  There are a bunch!  You just have to explore and tweak and share ideas with others to work them out.

See, I disagree with that characterization.  Consider the sims, which this construct is borrowed from.  Your mood, hunger, toilet, sleep, all go down over time, and the core of the game is to do things that bump those levels back into the green.   Getting your mood back up isn't a penalty for playing the game, it is part of playing the game.

  • From the official FAQ:
"You can’t change upgrades you’ve already purchased with Imagination, but you can keep playing to earn more! You will never come across a card that negatively affects your character, so there would be little point in take-backsies"

This is patently incorrect. The increasing loss of mood does negatively affect your character. That statement in the FAQ should be deleted, or at least an explanation given as to why TS believes that making it harder to regain mood is not a negative effect. Similarly for teleport costs and loss of energy.

Yes, the game mechanic was always there but was previously an unavoidable consequence of increasing level. Now it's avoidable, but if one buys the cards in the comforting lie that they never negatively affect one's character, it is just as irreversible.

  • I too am having a serious problem with how fast my mood drops, it feels like I am forever 'milking butterflies' to keep my mood up, it feels like I cannot focus and enjoy anything else, it feels like a total pita, and that makes my RL mood drop big time. The whole point of achieving a bigger energy and mood tank, is to be able to focus on things that are way more fun than topping up mood all the time, like exploring all these new areas, stopping to chat with people etcetcetc.
It's a massive downer, and it is starting to have a huge negative impact on how much I love this game.
I understand how some think there "needs" to be a counter balance to large energy tanks, but I don't agree with that. There are other things in game, that are way more fun, than stuffing my Avi's face with food/drink/herbs.
And there should have been a clear big fat warning on the upgrade cards.
I totally regret having spent iMG on upgrade cards, which I believed would upgrade my Avi's mood/energy reserves, not make it more tedious, ~and the worst thing is: I cannot undo any of it, nor can I get a refund on the iMG I have wasted on those cards. ;(

  • I mostly bought tank upgrades because I wanted to see more upgrade cards and had a bunch of refunded IMG from Brain capacity. I see where it's the same game mechanic as before writ large, but now I really wish I could remove the energy tank upgrades, or had been better informed about the effect on mood when I purchased them. (Which, I grant you, was probably in the grip of "Shiny! Shiny!" and not made with sufficient gravitas or any sort of calculator. I was also possibly under-caffeinated at the time.)

Rapid mood drop without an available upgrade to mood-earning actions has seriously affected my play. In my completely subjective experience, mood is harder to upkeep than energy and, as previously mentioned, has consequences that energy loss doesn't. I guess I need to farm rookswort in quantity.

I'm not angry/bitter/saying "Goodbye Cruel Glitch!" and throwing myself down the Great Hole of Ix without a ladder because the upgrade system is not perfect on the first beta release. I think in general the upgrades & housing changes have been great and I'm enjoying tinkering with my house/yard a lot. Devs are made of Awesome Sauce (hey--how does that not exist in game yet?) and Sparkle powder. I do hope they consider tweaking the mechanics/labeling in the future, or possibly a refund/retool as with Brain Capacity.

Tinkering with the mood statistic constantly is Not Fun for me because it pulls me away from the task at hand and makes me deal with numbers rather than making/doing. It's a much less organic way of playing than when my compulsive hoarding/harvesting kept my mood up without thinking about it and I just carried many stacks of meat to top off the tank.

Your mileage may vary. Some people like to juggle geese. :)

    Reduce mood % loss
lengthen time between drops, say to match energy loss at 90 seconds or more.
Boost mood given per action, 2x mood!, 3x, 4x.
full iMG at lower levels of mood % like Tibbi suggested
