Pro Tips for Newbies and Pros alike

Allright, I searched for Pro Tips on the forums, didn't found a useful  thread so there you go: share your Pro tipsies and make life easier of your fellow Glitches.

Ill start with three tips, 2 I gathered from the forum:

Pro Tips:

1: Use spinach as a fast walking booster (especially in the ancestral area). Don't jump with it, you might lose traps doing so.

2: Pro-tip: that little arrow? When you have a destination set, clicking on it will auto-navigate your Glitch to the next signpost (and clicking on it when next to a post with many signs will automatically choose the right one). Posted 3 days ago by stoot barfield

3: PRO TIP: if you have tons of one thing you can put them all "on top of each other" on the floor. For instance - 1,000 beans? You can drop them all in one place, making it look like there is only one group of beans there. Do that for each group... you'll be able to keep your floor nice and tidy.

  • What TRB4 says.  And just a heads up, the Grand Ol Grinder will break, but repairing it will still cost a lot less energy than trying to grind 750 ores without flaming humbaba.

Of course, repairing energy ain't a problem if you use no-no after your flaming humbaba-grinding session.   Important - do NOT use No-No before the Flaming Humbaba.  It should be Flaming Humbaba-Grind-NoNo-Repair-Cook-ect.-Die-CrushGrapes-Resurrect before new day or log-off.

And yes, I forgot to mention - I agree that this thread is awesome.

  • Hog Tie all wild piggies and sell them to vendors after their is enough in your house: sell meat for outrageous prices on auction.
Posted 14 months ago by pickmonger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • oh nice! not controversial at all, @pickmonger ;)

Appending to that tip: Piggies don't respawn. So if you do decide to hog-tie&hoist off to the vendors, you probably also want to hope pretty strongly that your house ones don't die, because I suspect there's fewer of us motivated to repopulate the streets now that people are using this tip! :D

This little piggy went to market...

  • You can click on small icons appearing above chickens, butterflies and pigs to squeeze, milk, or pet/nibble them remotely, without standing nearby.

It works for trees too, but you move to tree to perform actual action.

  • For newbies:   If you have used all your energy and would rather not eat what you have to replenish, a walk in the ancestral lands can get most of your energy back.  The quoins there give much higher rewards than in other areas.  Make sure you don't jump for quoins on the way, and  when there try to avoid mood quoins as your mood will generally be maxed out.   By jumping for primarily energy and xp  you can get all your energy back and keep going for that game day.

  • @ Shalcker How do you click on the icons above the animals? For me the icons only appear if I hover the mouse on the animal, as soon as I move towards the icon, it disappears. Please explain to me how you are accomplishing this.

Does it only work on trees and animals that are "sad" and asking to be pet? AKA the ones that have the small icons always visible?

EDIT: I figured it out. You need to keep the mouse on the animal until it "freezes" then slowly move the mouse up to the action the animal wants you to preform. This is great for my 20 pigs, no more guessing who still needs to be pet or eaten.

  • Noob question:  what navigation arrow are you referencing?  i don't see any arrow on either the map or the small version of each board
Posted 14 months ago by Felicia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Felicia, when you click on a street on your map and set it as your destination a box will pop up on the main game screen below the minimap that has an arrow pointing towards the next signpost you need to use in order to get to your destination. It's that arrow :)

  • If you click on an area in the little map at the top of the screen, it will move your Glitch there.  So, if you have a sense of where the vendor is on a street, click that spot on the map and your Glitch will move there.  (This is particularly great if you have one of the huge modern homes (e.g. Alakol, Salaatu, etc--you can just click where you think your tree is, or where a door is and you'll move there).

  • TIP:  When moving from one house to another, and you have a lot of things to transport, put them up for auction at a higher price.  Once you get to your new house, cancel the auctions and reclaim your goods.  This works especially well for piggies.  The trivial amount you will pay for listing fees is nothing compared to the security of knowing all your stuff won't be lost.

  • Question about using spinach to walk faster: do you eat or activate?  If you eat lots of spinach at once, does that sustain the fast walking?   And if you jump or pick something up, do you lose all the benefits?

This is why I felt less upset when I couldn't find a house in Alakol (near the subway) and had to pick Andra.

That said, I'm going to try if having a teleport point right in the ancestral lands is possible.  If it is, it sounds like a plausible way to get teleport energy back quickly without food.

  • You can meditate while you cook.  AND, you can meditate while you cook while you ride the subway.

  • Does anyone know if eating multiples of items which give you buffs give you longer buffs? Does eating 3 spinach give you the jumping buff for 3 times as long?
Posted 14 months ago by SacredBob Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Will add to the list of uses for Spinach - use it to reach quickly hard to reach places like sparkly ores.  I also like to use Spinach at home - the door loading times in modern houses can be a pain to wait out so I just use Spinach to jump from the ground level to the upper levels, also from second floor to roof.

  • Here's my low level strategy:

    Week 1:
    - Skills: In the first hour, do all your 10 minute Skills: Animal Kinship 1, Light Green Thumb 1, Soil Appreciation 1, EZ Cooking 1, and Mining 1. Dedicate the rest of the week to Better Learning 1-5. I know it's difficult, and BL 4+5 seem like a long time now... but trust me: learn it. (we have a strategy for getting it down... keep reading.)
    - What to do: (get lots of XP with little energy)
    - Complete initial quests
    - Go everywhere, (all streets)... talk to everyone... (but don't be annoying) make lots of friends... jump a lot. These are easy achievements that require little energy and you can do it while you travel around. You'll earn XP and learn how awesome the Glitch community is.
    - Donate music boxes (except 1, for crab)... and pretty much everything to Lem
    - Find every key, seam street, secret (except Jethimhad, wait for at least lvl 12)
    - Auction: Cherries (~3c), Beans (~5c), Plain Bubbles(~4c), Allspice (~4c)
    - Buy cheap food: better yet, trade for cheap food. Just ask your 111 new friends.
    - Make it your goal to get 100 coins each game day.
    - Walk through the Ancestral Lands (Baqala, Choru, Xalanga, Zhambu). Auction/ Sell what you can.
    - It's easy to run out of energy, but... if you can sell what you gather, you can afford to buy cheap food that gives you lots of energy. (I gather until I run low on energy, go through ancestral lands... gather some more.. go through ancestral lands... gather some more... ). You also get your energy back each new day, and for leveling, so keep at it and you will survive week 1.
    - To decrease Better Learning 4-5: IF you have a positive cash flow, (a sustainable cycle of gathering, energy replenishing, and currants) start buying AH items that are ~80% of currant value. Buy/Trade Extremely Hallowed Shrine Powder (EHSP. Donate items to Lem, Cosma and Tii and spend it to bring down Better Learning time. With EHSP, you can spend~3000+ 400 for powder into ~1000 favor.

This is important... 1 stack of 250 beans sell for ~1000-1200. 1 stack of 250 cherries ~750-1000, 1 stack of 250 bubbles ~1200-1400, 1 stack of 250 spice ~1100-1200 at auction.

So... sell 3 stacks of raw goods and get 1000 favor. With Gardening 3 you get 24 per tree, so that's 10 trees a stack and 40 energy (harvesting only). That's how I look at the world.

    Week 2-3
    - Here's how you use Skillifier: Once you finish Better Learning 5, you can do ANYTHING that is 80% in ANY order... (I went straight for Soil Appreciation 2, Gardening 1-3, Animal Kinship 2-5. I like being able to gather 24+ items from trees with only 4 energy. 11 Trees = 1 stack for AH, sell... repeat.) without time penalty. During game time, I like learning skills that are short, then switch to longer skills for offline time, like La La said.
    - Finish new quests, gather like crazy and sell at AH.
    - If you wanna mine... I guess you can start mining. BUT make sure you can provide yourself with enough energy. Sure mining can make you rich, but you can't do it if you tire out. That's the path to No- No abuse and begging for food... and we don't want that ;-)
    - If you wanna cook... I guess you can start cooking. But I would wait to get a house, a garden and some animals... (but that's just me.)

    Whew! Any thoughts?

  • The most important thing I learned as a new kid was how to hit 1, 2, 3 super fast to make it look like I'm having a seizure.

  • Ajaya Bliss is great for low level miners because on average you will hit a rock once before it disappears thus using only 9-10 energy, and if you get to the rock fast enough you should be getting 26-30 bonus chunks per rock, that is about 10 energy for roughly 30-35 chunks of sparkly which is a great return. The reason this works in favor of lower level mining is because since you take such a loooong time mining each rock you can get more people on the rock AFTER you. That is the key to mining bonuses, the more people who "help" you (mine after you) the bigger the bonus (which caps at 30 when 9 or more people mine after you). However this works AGAINST people with mining 3 and 4 because it's hard to get 9 or more people mining after you within the span of 4 seconds. If you have mining 3 or 4, it is much more beneficial to go solo mining on Earthshakers than it is to group mine in Ajaya Bliss. The higher levels of mining are more dependent upon jewels to make money, thus the more times you hit a rock the more chances of getting a jewel. With level 4 mining you can mine 4-5 rocks with one Earthshaker which grants no energy loss while mining for 3 minutes. You will gain mass amounts of XP with zero energy usage, which is the other benefit of solo mining, more XP. In Ajaya Bliss you will gain almost no XP. So let the noob miners have Ajaya, if you're a seasoned ore buster try doing a solo act.

  • Might not be protips, but stuff that I didn't know to start and isn't mentioned already.

    * You are wearing starter clothes. Hit the wardrobe/vanity and pick up every free item in there. There more stuff every day. Sort by price, then click like mad.

    * Don't sing to butterflies to start. It gives only Exp, althoughva lot, but it will not be
energy cost effective for a while.

    * A house is nice but bags are better. Also the 50k house isn't the bestest ever. Several of the less expensive ones offer better things in some aspects.

    * Auction raw materials. More experienced players would rather unload spare currants than gather.

    * Give something away every day. There a quest and achievement for it, but it's also good karma. I've met some great people doing this.

  • So TRB4 I did the math... 10 energy for 35 chunks @ 6c/ chunk. Average scenario, you use 50 energy for 175 sparkly, that's 1050c... right away. Or you could get SA1+2, and Gardening 1-3 in half the time as Mining 2, and make 1000-1200c harvesting trees and selling at auction @ 40 energy. The downside to harvesting is how crazy the AH market can be, and having to wait for your items to sell.

Yes, you get bonus gems from mining, but the world has plenty of trees, and I'm sure /minute you can make more than waiting for spawns and hoping for a consistent bonus in AB.

I don't know.. I'm pretty torn between the two. Benefits and down sides to each scenario.
