Sticky things

From paper to decorations to piggy feeders, we'd like to lock things down for people to enjoy. It seems reasonable to have an item that won't permanently do so, but at least will get the job done for a period of time. They could probably be accomplished by potion making, with varying strengths for varying purposes. Like lucky giveaways or wall art (because shelves have their limitations too).

  • Ellisande, I definitely hope that something like this will be implimented.

I would love it if our remote herdkeeping equipment could be locked down to be not removable by others, yet still collectible from by others (as I love having these resources be an easy way to help people who come by my street).  That was where I began my thinking and over the past several days I've been thinking of other types of sticky things.  Possibly a sticky turf to lay in front of your home to make things stick.  Floating islands were suggested somewhere a while ago and I think those might be neat sticky exceptions if you wanted to give things away, or maybe the turf could be placed in parts of the yard.

Or things like fences, the vending machine ideas (with a limit of some kind on how much you can take), a potion for trees to prevent poisoning -  something or multiple things.  I think having flexibility like this, whatever form it takes and whatever it looks like, would be really helpful to people in multiple ways.  Flexibility to allow us to having gift piles for people, or creative artwork, or a giftbox for the house owner... flexibility that allows us to receive, or display, or give, without having to worry about the desires of other Glitchen coming into conflict with our intentions for our home streets.

  • i would love for my feeders etc to be able to be locked in but items can be collected etc we could make potions or shelving that could be put in place and those things on the shelves cant be removed?

  • @diaveborn I'm not sure if this is the same idea, but when you said vending machines, I thought of those bubble gum dispensers that people use for toys now. Pay something and get a random prize! :p

@Vixen the stuff on shelves really aren't supposed to be removed if you put them in on decorate mode. Or so says the thread at http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/17340 :)

  • Potions, definitely!  Give us more of those to make :)  I also like the tree antipoison, but I think maybe it's better to just make poison use on home streets something the owner has to click okay for, like people trying to enter your house uninvited.

  • The vending machine idea was originally for community areas like the locked mining rooms - anyone can put food/drink items into the machine at any time but there is a limit on what you can take out. For example 200 currants worth of food per game day or 1000 energy per day.

  • Sorry: X-posting here in full:
The real feature request is the ability to modify items placed on streets.
    So:
I'm imagining a verb added to feeders/milkers that allow us to lock them in place (ie only movable by owner, and/or keyholder).
I'm also imagining that others, when dropping, could also elect to lock ALL OTHER items to the same state (ie, only movable by owner and/or keyholder). This would enable gifts.
Finally, we should probably have a potion, or powder, by which we can:
    a) Proof piggies against baiting.
    b) Proof trees against tree-poison.
    c) Limiting wood trees from being harvested beneath three limbs.  Fertilidust would of course allow the tree to spring back to 4 limbs, at which point, it could be harvested again.

The addition of these features would end the issue(s) we are currently having with the hoover v. sharer conflict.

  • I am fine with people squeezing my chickens, flirting with my pigs and defoliating my trees. I just don't want anyone other than me or my designated keyholders collecting from or taking my collectors or feeders. I can't see why that is selfish.

  • +1 this needs to be implemented.

  • @Booknerd: It's NOT selfish. You put those out there for others to benefit! Just as I have.
So, the notion of allowing (through features) others to be generous without being chumps is not necessarily a bad emergent behavior to get behind.
    The good news is twofold:
    1) The first came in the form of me arriving at my /home after a few days being absent from the world, and all my stuff was there: Mind you I had set up gnomes and notes to protect the newer players from social gaffes.
    2) The second comes in the form of the last note I read before logging. Which read something like "There are more good Glitchen than there are bad Glitchen."

My final bit comes in the form of confession. On my last wood tree, I took it down to three limbs. And I was unable to fertilidust it. I felt bad. So I passed by all other wood trees until I was able to reup my stocks.

This is the way I play, and yes, it is a choice, but it feels more to me like being part of a community. I could choose to play another way, but the fact that I do not tells me something about myself.  It reminds me of my best parts.

  • I lobe you crash (hugs) .
for the record, in the street out front of my house :
I really want my collectors and trees LOCK-able.
I want to let others harvest from my collectors freely , and even allow them to add to my feeder. I want others to be able to use my animals-pet , milk, squeeze, etc, .
(it'd be nice to have my piggys be tethered to my street and not pig-nappable -but I can forgo that as an optional enhancement personally. )
I want my trees locked down too- so that I am the only one who can poison them , kill them and clear them . I want others to be able to harvest, pet , and water my trees.
(if the it makes you devs life any easier -then you can make the permissions for the above items to be changeable by myself PLUS my keyholders. Whatever is easier for you . )
If it becomes able for me to imagine a change to my home streets rock node -then yes , i want that locked too. i dont want others to be able to change the node .
I would like to be able to place notes on my street that are locked .
(of course I'd still like a ;'free-to-take anything that is in here bin" on my street ,
and a second bin or box or a basket or a backpack on my gnome or gnome pouch that acts like a bin that others can leave me things with it locked in such a way as others may drop/leave something but NOT pick anything up and only I can retrieve from it) ,
AND a bulletin board outside my house that I can leave notes locked onto for others to read- so that i dont have to litter my street with notes. )
    ;D
