Merge Houses and Towers

I know this is a big one, but I don't think it makes sense to have two different kinds of buildings. How about making houses and towers the same thing and adding permissions?

That way, players could choose to have a street with no building, or with as many buildings as they had space for. And instead of two different mechanisms, the game would have a single more flexible one.

What's different between houses and towers:
- houses are only accessible to key-holders and by knocking
- houses can be increased in width
- houses have a back yard
- towers can be nine stories tall

The replacement buildings would:
- either have a back yard or not, perhaps max one per home street
- be up to nine stories tall
- have an optional elevator, otherwise one would have to build doors
- be width adjustable, perhaps with a maximum width across all buildings
- have a permission setting: owner, key-holders, friends, everyone

  • I think your suggestion is absolutely lovely!

But I also suggest that the reason we have separate towers and houses has to do with the coding issues involved in making something so flexible.

For instance, to make the currant houses, with the backyards, capable of being more than three stories tall, TS would have to create background graphics that are big enough, and those graphics would take longer to load, or be much simpler in design and thus more plain.

  • I was actually thinking of, with certain houses and all, that perhaps the tower could be integrated to be on top of the house. But yeah, as one of the few Glitches uninterested in the tower-y goodness, yeah. Good idea though.

  • Something that I think would be sweet, though with limited utility, would be to have a tower in your back yard.

It would have all the security rules of a regular tower, so more permissive than a house, but you'd have to go through your house to get to it.  Mostly, it'd just effectively expand upon the house.

Or, it could be a different animal, and it could be completely shut off from other people entirely.  A private, locked building in your backyard, that is expandable, so you could store all sorts of crazy stuff in out, out of sight of absolutely anybody.
