So what exactly do I need to know about the whole housing thing?

I know it's in the pinned post but here's what I know and what people are telling me... I'd like a confirm by someone, an IDK will do.

1) We're getting house upgrades  (awesome, I'll build on top of my existing house)

2) We have to move out of our house in a certain time period, and will be told to do so, but we'll get boxes to help us move and hold onto our stuff. Then from there, we make our own house with the upgrade system, no two houses will be quite similar.
2a) The strategy from  this circumstance is to not waste any money on stuff you don't need at all, because the prices of things are currently not told to us...

3)If we don't move, you get robbed on your plot of land? Lol. Maybe its optional, and most likely refunded.

My main concern: Missing the move date, esp someone who isn't going to return till the new year, and then having your stuff on the ground of open land... Like visiting your house after a natural disaster.

MOST IMPORTANTLY : I am NOT sure about what above is true or not ('cept the house upgades :3) so there's no need to panic or something and I'm not trying to create hype (intentionally). I just want to know what the plans are for tomorrow (figuratively).

Thank you.

  • I think you are WAY jumping the gun. Everyone has the same info: In the future there will be customizable housing and you will have to move to take advantage of them

At this point that is pretty much it. No real time frame, no real specifics.

OBVIOUSLY they are not going to just evict people, especially if they are offline. Do you REALLY think they'd do that. Be reasonable. TS isn't cruel or stupid. There will be a transition period.

So to answer the post's title question: At this time, nothing. Nothing at all.

  • I don't think it is possible in an online persistent world to miss your move date.  They'll just keep your house saved to their servers until you move.

  • I disagree with Lord Bacon, I don't think you're jumping the gun. I think thinking about stuff, and asking questions, is a good thing :-) That's what these forums are all about!

My guess, which seems to fall into line with everything that's been posted officially so far (but is still an educated guess) is:

    * ALL houses will turn into "plots of land" with a basic house on it, so you won't lose your house, or your stuff, it just goes onto a generic spot exactly where it currently is.
    * This basic house (or even empty plot of land) will be fully upgradeable, from a 5k simple little hut, to a giant expensive mansion (plus resources on that land, etc).
    * Since the way a house looks / functions will change (and we'll all start out with a hut, potentially) all of our stuff will go into a moving box which will be waiting for you on your lot. You will only be able to take things out of your moving box, not put stuff into it, and when it's empty it vanishes.

Considering how much people endlessly freak-out about anyone (even TS) even remotely touching their house in any way, I have no doubt they'll be as nice as they can to us as possible during the transition to new houses and I also doubt they'd do things like make us physically move to a new 'plot of land'

PS: though I do wonder what Stoot meant when he said "you'll be able to choose your neighbors better" ... hrm

  • @Everyone thanks

I'm not trying to jump the gun, if you ever read the whole post, maybe it'll make sense. ALTHOUGH its my fault for not remembering how merciful TS is.

@Shivian I was going to add that quote, thanks for adding that ... I was thinking about that...

  • Perhaps (more theory here) once you have a house, you can move the whole house-and-the-plot-it's-on to a new plot elsewhere. Better enabling you and friends to go "oh look, this new street has 6 open plots, I'll take plot 1 you can take plots 2 3 and 4 and we'll all be together!" without the current pain of moving.

Perhaps, again, in this scenario, all of your things will be put into a 'moving box' - but maybe not.

  • I posted to the ideas forum that what the game needs are RVs.  I think I could be tempted out of my 50K house by a Gypsy lifestyle with a pair of porkers pulling my brightly painted a-frame wagon through the streets of Groddle Meadow.

-- no, really.  part of the housing options could be campsites.  say, a few in ever housing block.

  • @walruz lol not a bad idea.

  • The problem I have with all this is the moving box. I have several bigger bags full of meat and veggies and so on to make my foods and drinks. Now since we cannot just open a bag from our cabinet  right now I have to remove the bag from there to make stuff. Now saying we cannot put stuff back into our moving crate once we take something out of it, this will create huge problems inventory wise.

  • My ideas what was going to happen with the new housing was similar to ✦ SHI∇IΔΠ ✦'s original.  But instead of a crate I would think a bank vault or something not tied to our houses would be better (wasn't there hints awhile ago that something like this was going to be looked into).  That way we could easily change locations. I think having whatever storage being withdrawal only is a good idea, otherwise you have people exploiting what could be an infinite storage space. Casombra brings up a good point but you could drop the bags on the ground and access you inventory from there.  Not perfect but it's the system we have now (once you run out of cabinet space).

Of course if you could move the entire plot that also solves the issue as well.

Granted this is all speculation, but speculating is fun.

Edit: I didn't realize that when I copied ✦ SHI∇IΔΠ ✦'s name it would turn it into a link, but I didn't know how to type the name and I'm leaving it because I like how it looks.

  • Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't really see what the problem would be with only being able to remove stuff from moving boxes.... They're supposed to be temporary, a solution to the problem of having too much to carry from one house to another on your own (or however the housing upgrade will work). In other words, one would assume that the whole point of using one in the first place was to, well, move. And after you've moved, why wouldn't you just put your stuff into your new cabinet, on the floor, etc? I suppose if you were planning to just be homeless for a while, that could be an issue, but really, that's more about proper planning of what stuff you really need to have on hand in your inventory, and what can rot in the box til you settle on a new home, imo.

  • See the thing is, I'm really wanting to learn potion making, so I can use portals to move my stuff from one place to another...
Posted 13 months ago by Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • MX your missing the point though. Sure if we are moving the moving box is fine... however if we are FORCED to lose our houses and all we are left is a moving box to work from while building a house... do you see my point? Right now I have a cabinet I can remove bags, use the stuff from those bags then replace them into the cabinet. With a moving box we cannot. I don't WANT to be homeless but sadly it seems we all will be eventually.

  • Someone posted this article in another thread. As it is relevant to this one I thought I would repost it: http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/02/mmobility-tiny-speck-explains-glitchs-big-unlaunching/

The changes to the housing from the little info given sound terrific, I almost wouldn't care if I lost my items if they are going to implement what they say (almost but not quite).

It also states as if the credits that I had previously purchased will be doubled. I guess once back out of Beta again I will be given the same amount that I had previously purchased.
