Odd Piggy Behavior

Noticed two odd things that my penned up piggies are doing lately...

1) They tend to lurk at the entrance of the pen.  While this is pleasing because when I do go down to the pen, if feels like they missed me...it is sad to see them not getting any exercise by using the rest of the pen...seems like it is only a couple that tend to do this.

2) They aren't eating the food that I'm leaving in the pen for them.  Since you fixed the remote piggy feeder bug (which was a bummer bring me down), I have to leave food out for them.  When I drop the food...they all gather around and munch on it. But I was gone for a day, came back, none of the food was eaten and they were all nibbled out.  I'm a bit concerned that my piggies are on a hunger strike when I'm gone...they just don't understand I have to work a day job to pay for my big glitch house, my wardrobe, and their ingame food...I've been leaving cherries and grain since they didn't seem to like beans or eggs much.  I will try leaving produce since I noticed on their 'feed' menu, that seems to be their preference.  But it is odd they will eat the stuff as it's put down, just not on their own.

  • 2) was affecting me too.
I left a ton of food down while I was learning remote herd keeping and Stephen Fry and Suicidal Balcony Pig both turned into piles of meat :(   They'd eat if I was around, but I went away and they seemed to loose their will to survive o_0

  • heya- re:  They tend to lurk at the entrance of the pen.

Is it like they are totally stuck in place there, or they just walk around near there?

  • Mine won't eat anything I've left for him, regardless of whether or not I'm there.  He starved rather than eating while I was logged out over a few gamedays, and he also hasn't filled his meat collector in about twenty-four hours.

  • I'm curious to know if you have other animals in your yard/pen? If I recall correctly, piggies like to have chickens/butterflies around - it helps keep them happy.
I have one piggy, a couple chickens and butterflies, and my piggy IS eating the food I leave out for him on the ground, whether I am at my home, elsewhere in-game, or out of the game entirely.
    Just a thought.

  • A few tests before the reset, my 13 piggies were also not eating anything I leave on the ground. Or maybe they were eating it slowly --i just couldn't tell-- the food was scattered all over the pen. I once hid all my piggy feeders to test if they could survive without the feeder, and it seems they couldn't. I found most of them turned to piggy meat the following test. And the food was still on the ground.

Now I can't tell if anything has changed between then and now. I'm still on my way to rebuilding my piggy empire, and  I do hope this eating behavior improves soon.

  • Mine (prior to getting RHK) would eat potatoes, but they didn't touch tomatoes, or onions, or grain, I didn't leave corn as I was cooking with it.  I didn't think it was anything other than a new piggie behaviour - I called it new picky piggies.

  • Yes, my piggies aren't eating the food on the ground either...left cherries for them to eat, and I have an egg plant since I'm in the swamps.  They are 'all nibbled out', but they haven't eaten a single cherry since I left the game, and I just logged back in...

In my case, I do have two butterflies for the two piggies...no chickens though...they irritate me when they climb up the ladder and get in the house.  Put one out on the street to have one close by.

ETA:  Since I don't have RHK, I wondered if the empty piggy feeder that I had and placed, might be the issue.  I removed the piggy feeder (not even in my cabinet, it's in my personal inventory), picked up and replaced the cherries and grain on the ground, and when I returned to game today, all the cherries were gone, and my piggies let me nibble them.  Wondering if it may be an issue with having an empty piggy feeder in the vicinity, that the piggies are starving because they want to eat from it, so they aren't eating the stuff on the ground in front of them...

  • Sorry kevbob, didn't mean to ignore your question.  They seem to walk back and forth in a small area at the entrance to the pen.  However, they seem to have unstuck themselves a bit since...so they are roaming a bit more...but often just come to the entrance in droves.

Also...had a bunch of food on the ground in the pen and when I returned last night, two of my piggies were dead - just piles of meat and piggy poop...quite irritating since there was probably 50 items of food on the ground that they seemed to have ignored (wheat and cherries) and the other three piggies were nibbled out, but I hand fed them.  I had removed the piggy feeder hoping that might be causing the problem, but still some didn't eat when food was available.   Think it is more of an issue in the large houses with pens since there are no trees for the piggies to eat from.

  • No b3achy, I have the same problem in my cave house. One died on me, so I put the collector downstairs. Second piggy will not eat the grain I leave for her. She insists on being hand fed, but refuses to give me meat. She keeps saying "I'm all nibbled out now". I even brought in a chicken to keep her company. I don't have a feeder, btw.

  • Fascinating.
I don't have the RH skill, but I ended up with a piggy feeder from the Rube. I have it in my yard, but it's empty.
I toss grain and whatever veg I have extra on the ground for my piggy once or twice a (real life) day. My piggy always eats what I put out for him, and lets me nibble after petting.
Maybe I just got a good pig?

  • Zany, I think you've got a good piggy!!

Well, it's official...all my piggies are dead...I won't be getting anymore until I can get RHK under my belt and be able to fill up that piggy feeder.  I have a picture with cherries and grain all over the ground and two sets of meat piles and piggy plops for the last two hunger strike piggies. I had been hand feeding my piggies 10 grain or cherries at a time when I've logged in and still they were nibbled out...sigh...so sad...hate to see what happens when I don't log in for a week due to RL, even with piggy feeders...heavy sigh...hate having to start my piggy family over again...

I never noticed this before launch because you could at least use the piggy feeders without RHK (even though it gave you a warning when you bought them), so I did.
