Piggy Feeding

I don't have Remote Herdkeeping yet, so I can't make use of a piggy feeder.  But for the convenience of piggy plops, I have kidnapped a piggy and put him in my back yard.

So how much or how frequently do I need to feed my piggy to prevent him from eating of my trees?

I poked around on the forum, but couldn't find another answer to this question.  I'm all for experimentation, but I like having knowledge, too, lol.

  • You can also leave grain and/or veggies on the ground for your piggy to eat, too. I think the more a piggy is nibbled, the more he needs to be fed, so the answer to "how much/how often" can really vary.

  • I tend to leave sheaves of 30 corn and drop cabbages in heaps of 20 at a time, because it is so sad to come home to a few piles of meat where your piggies used to be.

  • What is wrong with a piggy eating off your trees?  That sounds like a wonderful solution!

  • Has something been changed with RH and piggy feeders? There seems to be some confusion about whether piggies eat grain in feeders, and whether petting piggies works the same as feeding them meat when they are nibbled out.

    Clarification, please?

  • My piggies are not eating from the feeder I stocked with grain a couple of days ago. I am worried sick about the poor hungry things. :(

  • When I logged in this afternoon, I had a happy, living piggy.  Unfortunately, my entire garden was gone.

I had also left 30 wheat, 30 beans, and 30 cherries on the ground (I wasn't sure if the piggy would pick on them, but it couldn't hurt, right?).  The piggy ate 6 wheat and left the rest.  Not sure if he ate that before or after the entire vegetable garden.

I moved the piggy.  He now lives in Borem Summon.

  • The garden is unrelated, they made a change in houses which wiped some gardens, I was told they were working on it.
They aren't supposed to eat your crops if they are still in the ground.

Oh, and piggies eating from trees sometimes looks like it is negatively affecting the tree, but it isn't. There is no reason to fear them eating the trees :)

Just keep leaving the wheat out, and it should eat from it.
If it gets Nibbled Out (it will tell you it is) try petting it and nibbling again, if petting doesn't fix it, feed it food slowly until it lets you nibble again. As long as you are on every day checking on them, they should give you enough warning that they are hungry. If you are going to be gone a few days, just leave a huge pile of wheat or beans or fruit and they should eat from that until you come back.

  • Hm, so the garden disappearing was an unrelated fluke?  That's highly coincidental.  Which really shouldn't surprise me.

    Thanks for the tips, guys!

  • If you feed your piggy enough to produce the plops you need for keeping the garden plots planted that should be more than enough food to keep him happy.

Tip:  When you go to feed your piggy to produce plops don't be carrying more than 20 of whatever you're going to feed him.  With 20 or fewer on your person there will always be the option to feed exactly 3.  One feed = one plop!  With more than 20 on you, you have to feed them one at a time.  Three feeds = one plop.  If you have more than one piggy snuffling around you it can be difficult to be sure you get all 3 to the same piggy!

  • The "eating from trees" does in fact appear to be harmful to the trees. I had a single piggy in there and planted 3 wood trees. Then had no internet access over the weekend, the next time i had a chance to look all the trees had gone.

  • @Hobo, I think it's more likely your trees died from the lack of attention.
