Auction flooding!!!

With the recent addition of players to the game I feel like my whole glitch work was destroyed...being a purp grower and dealer was fun and profitable..until the new glitchens started popping up everywhere..now everyones doing it and i go into auction and items that were once a rarity to see are now a dime a dozen..this sucks!!!

  • Could also be the work of.......The Rook and his Glitchen Flunkies.....you can check it out in the Rook groups discussions....

Please do not confusious the Rook Alert group with the above gangsters... The Rook Alert  Group are we who Defend Ur and battle the Rook when there are more and more Rook attacks......,

Hmmm  seems a bit strange that "new glitchens" would even know about the Purple, let alone so many "new" ones getting the skill already...and having grown enough purp to impact your livelihood so negatively and in such large numbers......very strange....sorry to hear this..

  • The downside of a free market...

  • I was just reflecting on the same thing. I have several possible Theories:

    1. It's a post-reset rush of everyone scrambling around trying to make as much money as fast as possible so they can buy back all their shit. S'what I'm doing, LOL.

    2. It's a post-launch influx of new people that will eventually even out into more manageable numbers. Damn whippersnappers.

    3. It's the apocalypse.

  • i've only been playing for three or four days, and i know about purp, and grow it too. it's not that secret, is it?

  • Meanwhile, prices for even common keys have gone through the roof!

  • Heh, I think Don Drapper has upset your applecart. He was producing massive amounts of Purp and flooding the market at bargan basement pricing.

  • AH HAH! You SEE?! What have I been telling you guys!? Don Draper is a PUBLIC MENACE. Now does everyone see my point? :DDD

  • Variety is the spice of life...there are so many things you can sell and make fantastic money at...unless you are looking to make loads and loads of money instantly, that is. Have you thought about expanding your horizons? I love the free market world...I always price my goods the lowest, even if by just 1 current and always sell quickly. I've made more than enough to buy everything I needed...

  • I don't want to hear the name don draper in my forum post!!!! Me and him have beef right now I tried to get him to go into buisness with me and his reply was..I don't give people money, I take peoples money...ever since then I vowed to take him down!!

  • I would suggest a farmer's market approach where the buyer gets to know the grower\maker and is willing to pay more than buying from an anonymous name on the auction house.  Both the auction house and farmers market are better options than buying from in game npc's.  Help out your fellow glitch and buy from players.

  • I do support the farmers market approach and I garuntee my prices are lower then any auction price and if it's not then I will lower my price to beat auction prices,,but it's just hard to Find Custies these days, and don draper is monopolizing the market making it even more difficult for a glitchen to make an honest living

  • @Rayana I provide tons of purp, but my prices are not cheap bargain basement prices! I charge premium high prices for my purple, while others try to undercut. If anything, you should be upset I keep purple prices so high!

@mizplaced Offer me a deal I agree with, and I'll do business with you. I don't mean to upset anyone when I turn down an offer. It's not personal ever - just business. All good feelings from my end.

  • Don Draper changed his name to Messy Monster, FYI. =) It only costs 100 currants to change your name?! That's Cheap... It's kind of funny, there are a couple other Don Drapers now.

  • This is one of the many possible outcomes of having an auction system. Limiting yourself to one cash crop is pretty much guaranteeing that this problem will arise.

New players won't know how to take advantage of a high market - so even if some players are riding the high demand, a new player will come in and undercut them by a thousand currants. This happens maybe once or twice before they catch on.

The downsides of the auction system are also its benefits. If you don't limit yourself to one cash crop, and you keep an eye on which ones are in demand, you can do very well for yourself. It's a matter of patience, planning ahead and knowing when to sell.

In the end though, the auctions are just gravy. Whether you sell at 1000c or 100c, you still get paid, or you get your items back.

  • messy monster:  what do you mean by "undercut"?  You bought the first few I tried to sell on auction.  They were priced a little lower than whatever the lowest available price was.  I noticed you bought some from cat face at the same time last week.   I thought it odd that you would be my first purple flower customer until I figured it out.

  • Sorry, I was lurking... and I noticed I'm ranked 21?! Yay! Super exciting :)

  • @Treesa - I mean undercut, as in people will see that I'm selling purple for 150, and 'undercut' me by selling purple for 100, instead. I don't know who cat face is, but I'm sure they're a great person! I'm sure they're as nice as the other 50 people I buy herbs from, while being just as normal, too. Names don't matter to me, but prices and economics do.

  • I thought maybe you were buying them to re-sell at a higher price.  Anyway, I stopped selling flowers on auction.   I either give them away or pile them up in case I can ever use them for something sometime in the future.

Somebody mentioned a "flower arranging" skill in the ideas forum.

  • I guess I do "undercut" people.   I usually put whatever I have for sale up for less than whatever the lowest price is.   Sometimes a lot less if I want to be rid of it.

  • Treesa, that is exactly what he is (and has always been) doing.

You make money, he makes money, everyone is happy except for the average consumer who now has to pay more.

  • You've never played a MMO have you? It's the same in every other MMO that incorporated an auction house.

Prices will fluctuate and sometimes items will lose their value altogether.

  • Are you really complaining that you have to adjust your strategy periodically instead of playing the exact same way every day?  Sheesh...
