Pigs! (a rant)

I dropped some food on the ground and walked away, and then it was gone just like that. I know who took it, because they were the only ones around. They didn't ask if I considered it mine.  They didn't ask why I dropped it.  I've tried talking to them before, and they didn't answer. So I didn't even bother to ask them to give the food back to me -- because I knew they were pigs.  Yes, pigs, I say!  They were literally, in real pixels, pigs.

I hope this gives you a laugh.  Please keep in mind, fellow players, that dropping something on the ground is a way to share so that it can be picked up by whoever wants, however much they want, for whatever purpose they want.  This is how the game works, and there are benefits to sharing in this way.

  • Can pigs steal/eat stuff that's in bags?

  • Not what is in a bag RealJimBob, but if you notice while you are harvesting they stand under the trees and wait for you to drop something. Watch for the "yum" coming from the little scavangers.

  • I don't think they take what you're harvesting -- when they "yum" as I harvest from a tree, I've noted that my yield is still the same, I think they just are along for the ride and take the opportunity to do the piggy-equivalent of nibbling a tree when you remind them it's there.

But if it's on the ground, a piggy will eat it, no question.

  • Never try to harvest herbs with full bags:( My piggies ate half my stash before I could clear enough room. They had a full piggy feeder as well :(

  • Hahaa!  Brilliant!  :D

I feel the same way about dropping items.  There is a simple rule to follow:  If you don't want the items to be taken, DON'T DROP THEM!  I realize that there may be instances of "accidental dropping," and I would hope that other players would be respectful of the dropper's mistake.

I hear a lot of complaining about individual players "stealing" all of the food at a party buffet.  While I agree that this could be considered "bad manners," I think there could be other circumstances that influence this behavior.  The player might simply be very low on energy and take the food with the intention of making more once he or she has refueled.  They might be a newbie, they might simply be unfamiliar with the party or community mining atmospheres, or they might just be greedy!

At any rate, I don't think it calls for an extreme reaction.  I've encountered instances of players who made an honest mistake by taking what was arbitrarily considered "too many items," and the harsh reaction from the other players led to some very hurt feelings.  Glitch is designed to be a cooperative gaming experience.   It saddens me that I read so many inflammatory and disenchanted posts on the forums.  Most of my experiences in Ur have been very rewarding.

But I suppose this is like most things in real life.  The same act could be considered unforgivably rude by one person and perfectly acceptable or even complimentary by another.  Belching at the dinner table comes to mind...  =P

  • Too funny.  : D
Evil piggy bandits always chomp the flowers I leave on peoples graves, lol.

But seriously there is a big difference between a dog snatching your steak dinner when you leave it for a moment or another person doing it.

The dog is just being a dog when he steals your steak where as a person, well I guess they are just choosing to act like the dog when they do so.

  • @Melting Sky That's actually rather profound :)

(And, yes -- I can confirm that the piggies saying "Yum!" while you're harvesting don't affect the number of beans/etc. harvested.  They're just taking the opportunity to nom on the tree while it's being interacted with!)

  • Hi and Happy New Year, Y'all.....

Yes, all the above is correct as to the fruit and/or # of harvest not effected by our Precious Piggies...lol
However, its the tree itself that becomes adversely effected by Piggie nibbles...look at the tree when/just after being nibbled...notice, even for a moment, the tree shrinks..its not colorful and full of bloom...esp the Bubble trees...There is a silver band around the bottom of the tree...when that band begins to advance upward, esp to the branches...the Bubble Tree is in need of immediate help (it can die...really..) So, rather than blame the hungry Piggies..just keep a jar of Fertilidust on you and at home...and sprinkle liberally and Ta Da.. you will see a vast improvement in the appearance and health of the tree...honest....lol  Peace....Out
