Regarding world development

I noticed when I started playing that the world was already heavily developed. Also, the available projects which I later encountered required obscure items, or their quotas were already met. I think there should always be something for a newb to develop on, whether it be planting trees in public, or working on projects.

Also, I feel there should be more ways to impact the world around you. Right now, you can add/remove animals, plant trees, and contribute to projects. There should be more options for development, like the communal garden idea which has been thrown around.

Thoughts?

  • Maybe introducing "trolling skills" could be a good idea =P

If we all create stuff, and never destroy it, it will be hard for the devs to keep pace.
But maybe if there are skills like "graffiti painting", "Ignite tree"...

Of course, the effects of those skills should be limited and carefully balanced, but the idea will give all the citizens some endless work if they want to have a perfect world =D

And this scenario would be perfect for the development of social groups, that is something i am really interested in.
I am sure people would associate into Guerrilla groups or Peacemaker ones.
Social mobs and user-generated pojects can be endless and even funnier than official devs projects =D

Am I crazy about "trolling skills" in Glitch?

  • Skills just for the sake of making extra work seems the wrong way to go. That being said, I'm heavily in favour of a graffiti skill.

  • If a gaint got a Migraine/ Hiccups/ bout of food poisining then it would follow there would be a natural diaster right? These could be used to generate new projects or renewed projects for Ur.

Also the Rooks, aren't these the in game Trolls,

  • I like this idea about having things beginners can help with, but my "on the other hand" brain is wondering if perhaps being able to help with the projects with higher level skills is one of the "rewards" for higher level players? I kind of like both ideas...what about some newb only projects or ones you can only help with if you are UNDER a certain level but then after you help x number of times, you are done until higher levels? Just letting mind ramble.

I LOVED being able to plant trees, especially once I got a house. I was the only one in my block so I added five trees to welcome anyone else who buys up there :)

  • There's plenty for a new player to do, with all the quests they'll be getting from early skills. However, once you start learning higher level skills there are fewer quests available, and projects not only become easier to participate in, but a fun use of time.

On the other hand, I've reached the point where I'm not learning a new skill every half hour, but I'm not skilled enough to participate on projects. Mostly I've been trying to visit every location in the game. Perhaps providing some lower skill level activities on projects wouldn't be a bad idea.

  • It doesn't take long to skill up to contributing heavily as the skill timers are now, especially considering that we can play for years.
