All done. And now? (next update question)

Hi.

So there I was, enjoying the new update additions, when a tragic thought crossed my mind - the Iconization Disaster.

For those lucky enough not to know, the Iconization Disaster is that thing that happens when you learn that 11 emblems can be joined into an icon, so you toil for weeks to gain the emblems and do the thing. Then, ten minutes after you are done, "A new quest!" pops up... saying that you will gain riches and fame if you build an icon. Yup. Like the one you just completed.

The moral is, of course, that it isn't necessarily a good thing to immediately explore all the new possibilities given by a game update. It is much more sensible to wait until all the mechanics are fully in place, a reward system has been set up, and then work on all the relevant quests.

Case in point: building furniture, decorating the house, customizing the home street, etc. In other words: why should I shed tears for those damn snails now, when I'll be rewarded more for the same actions later on?

Having said this, a logical question comes up: when is the next update planned for? Or, at the least, when will the current update be completed? Anyone knows?

  • Ayzad makes a good point though, will we be able to enjoy earning thwenew aceivements for all the updated stuff, or will they just be given to us once it's implemented?

  • If an achievement comes later, you don't get it for actions you took earlier. There may or may not be achievements for this stuff, who knows! Good point though :)

  • we're in beta. if you want to play the full game you can wait till glitch gets out of beta.

also, we just got two big updates and you whine? they could have left glitch as it was before this beta but they keep working on it and making it better, can't you appreciate that?

  • Achievement badges have been given retroactively in the past.  So sometimes you do get credit for actions you took before the badge was released.

  • I don't really think the OP was whining.
I think s/he's just a completist. These exist.  They are attracted to games.

  • How did everyone become so rude all of a sudden...

  • Muncey, only one person who posted before you said anything rude. That's hardly everyone. Sadly, one rude comment can spoil the whole thread. I think most of us are still very nice and polite. :D

  • Muncey, fwiw, "In the future" is something Stoot says when you ask him when something will be done.  It was not directed at you in any way.

  • Why am I imagining the words "2 weeks" being sung to the tune "Friday"?

  • Glitches and glitchettes... please relax!

My question was innocent: I don't live on the forums, and it could well be that the next update was announced and I simply missed it. Of course I am in no hurry at all... just curious. If I wasn't, I probably wouldn't be playing this kind of game, would I?

  • You know, I've been thinking about this... and I came to the conclusion that, in fact, while I am patient and just enjoy logging in from time to time to deal some new cards... the lack of any proper game goal until the next update is really a letdown.
Yes, I know I can make up zillions of imaginary goals myself, but having even just one almost-unattainable quest available would give me some purpose. Maybe my situation is very rare among players, but I'd suppose there are many others like me who are just waiting for something-anything new to do...

  • Ayzad - there's about 250ish achievements that you haven't earned yet. Believe me, there's months of work in getting those.

  • I've been working on getting more upgrade cards - I've spent all my iMG on them, so I have to earn more i to get more.

  • @Snazzlefrazz - You got a point. Yet I was meaning _pleasant_ goals... not alienating toiling. Achievements are sweet and nice, but I always considered them a sort of side bonus, not something you consciously set out to reach... 11K whatever repeated actions? Not me, thanks!

@gimmegames - Of course. In that department, I am trying to mantain a slightly strategic approach (i.e. not buying anything and everything UNTIL the new house quests are out, and we'll probably have to spend gazillions of quoins on landscaping and such).

Thank you for the suggestions, however.

  • Actually I agree with Snazzlefrazz - I enjoyed doing a number of the achievements. I've gotten down to ones I don't enjoy so I quit working on them now, but I did do quite a lot. A site like Glitch Remote helps find resources to gather.

  • I'm kinda torn on the achievements too - some of them are best left as things that pop-up and surprise you, some of them definitely feel like work. (And some of them are just never going to happen!)

Some of them I quite enjoyed though - especially when you get a set that work together. Eg the herb growing achievements help you towards your tincture and potion making achievements which then help towards potion use and, if you're using the right potions, the tree antidote achievements too.

Others like the jellisac, firefly & peat achievements are just reminders that I need to hang out in the fire bogs more often :-)
