transistor radio

How about a device that allows you to stream music stations?  The background music here is very cool, but anything becomes unlistenable with endless repetition.

If you still wanted to keep the mood special, how about content from your musicians that they've made for purposes other than Glitch which otherwise wouldn't get much play?  It would still be unique to us and wouldn't be as jarring as having Cee Lo or Foo Fighters or whatever crowding into our fantasy world, but would also provide enough variation so that all of us who have turned off the background music (thanks very much for that feature, by the way) would have the opportunity to enjoy a little musical accompaniment to our pickaxing.

  • I like this idea! It would also be great for news bulletins and such. Perhaps the radio could also have a ham radio function so we could chat with other glitches in the area. I think there could be a lot of potential here.

  • Breaking news! Urgent bulletin! The Rook has been sighted in Groddle Forest! I repeat, the Rook has been sighted in Groddle Forest! Piggies and chickens are floundering in the streets. Butterflies have been flattened. Glitchen from surrounding regions are converging on Scribe's Weald in the hope of saving the most well-known paper tree in Ur.

We will continue with further updates as they are available. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming, "Yodeling in Flipside" with the Rainbow-Farting Hippies.

  • lol Jenny, that is just too random. Maybe the radio station would occasionally filter through the Musicboxes.

  • I hadn't considered talk radio.

It could even do game-generated reports about interesting events.  There could be a virtual Willard Scott announcing birthdays.  I wonder if there's public domain text-to-speech software out there.

An all-talk station might be too much, but some DJ chatter could be amusing, particularly if everyone listening to the same station heard it at the same time.

This is UPR.  Ur Public Radio.

  • *doot de doot doot, dooooo de doot doot; doot de doot doot, doooo de doot doot dooooooooooooooo...*

Today's programming is funded in part by a grant from the Gomez I. and Morticia A. Addams foundation.

Aaaand welcome back, everyone, to Breakfast in Beta; I'm Jennyanydots. We have no guest today, since I've just now imagined this show and I need to play with it, but I can at very least stick with the title of my show and tell you what I've had for breakfast....

  • I like the idea,  especially for bulletins, and I like the idea of radio/sound being even more important in the game than it already is.  It needs some super Glitchy freakamazoid originality though--I would want to be listening to radio created by Glitchen, not players behind the Glitchen.  Yeah, I know that is sort of random and vague sounding.

  • How about a quest to steal a pair of crab headphones? You could give them to your rock to tune in to the radio. Although I would also love to see a Kukubee-drawn transistor radio that could be installed in my house!

And I still like the idea that it could also help to fill in the gap for general chat by serving as a ham radio for chat with random people in your general area. Or groups could purchase advertising on the radio, maybe isolated on a chattier station, as a way for newer players to find groups.

Oh, and this quest should be available fairly early on, and before you get it, the soundtrack would be you whistling the glitchy song! And maybe there would be days where you didn't feel like having the radio on, but just bounding down groddle forest junction with a spring in your step and a whistle in your heart, and you could do that too. :)
