Wood Trees 101

Some stuff you might need to know:

1) A woodchuck doesn't exist (yet?)

2) Piggies around wood trees might not survive, so keep one tree non-wood. Unless you're taking care of the pigs.

3) There are people who kill wood trees everywhere, your block, you name it.

4) The max harvest from a wood tree is about 80 planks  they sell for 4 currants each, so that 320 currants a tree with the max Gardening skill. The tree might need to be in its best shape (with the help or fertilidust [sometimes lite]) to get you 80 planks, otherwise you'll end up with 40 or 60 planks which also isn't so bad.

5) It takes 6 Pets and or Waters to get a stem or arm of a wood tree back, one fertilidust sprinkle does the trick.

6) They are rare, when on the last segment, they can be cleared, if you can, please try to pet, water, fertlildust it to keep it alive.

7) There are achievements (some difficult) related to the tree.

8) There's a group that protects the wood trees on a street, feeds the piggies, and doesn't mind anyone being there with intentions to harvest. By popular group vote, it is only going to stay 4 wood trees.

From experience, there's also another way to benefit from the tree. You can donate to a shrine, one plank at a time, get a ticket, maybe a Musicblock... and sell that. The incredible harvests should help. This claim has not been confirmed yet... but the credit goes to MM.

Thanks for reading!

  • i just went to harvest in wickodoon mood and was harassed and spalnked.

the harassmentnt is the kind that goes under the guise of pleasant chitchat. it is un=welcome communication intended to annoy.

i was spoken to and did not respond.

a second  person announced that i speak chinese and that others ought to go talk to me.

    i did not respond.

i was followed around the street, splanked, and the second person continued to hover and talk.

it's low grade stuff and not worth mentioning except that it comes from the same cheerful group that keeps insisting they welcome everyone and are so happy and helpful and benign.

    i'm not buying it.

  • Thanks TJ, I was talking about the group, and like I said before, if the group is gone, those people are still there.

We are not here to tell people how to play the game, when someone is poisoning the wood trees, we usually run like hell unlike in the past.

We're not going to stop you from poisoning trees and replacing them, I'm just saying that there's people in our group that will replace them eventually. That's all.

  • Well flask, that's not acceptable behavior, mail me the names of those people and I will be sure to kick them out and talk to them.

  • I sincerely wished flask a merry Christmas and Bzzzt tried to engage him in pleasant conversation. There was no intention to harass him. Bzzzt and I were trying to be friendly. I do not know who splanked him, certainly not me, and I am sorry it happened to flask in Wickdoon Mood. Can't we all just get along? There is another person who poisons wood trees and chats with me in Chinese sometimes, I wonder if somebody was confused about whether flask was that person.

  • if "trying to be friendly" includes nonsense harassment and splanking, why then, yes, both of you were trying to be friendly.

that's the kind of friendliness i have come to expect from you people.
Posted 12 months ago by flask Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Flask, It was me who splanked you after politely asking you how you were, and yes you didn't answer.

I then tried to involve you in a conversation because you have used Chinese character at me before, thus my assumption that you do speak or at least read it.

If your going to make accusations about my treatment of you, then you should at least try and get your story right. Especially seeing as I have help you out many times before, I am disappointed in your posturing and accusations.

Please keep your Trolling to yourself.

  • Hmm, his intentions don't appear to be wrong. So I don't see that he was trying to harass you.

when i see proof that you killed a wood tree and planted something else, you'll get your money.

those pictures prove nothing beside you having been standing next to an open patch and a pile of planks. for all i know you could have been standing next to a patch i opened up before you replant a wood tree in that spot.

i expect an actual proof. video. timestamps. anything that shows conclusively that wood trees have been killed and planted over to something else.

the bounty notices are in the game. you can read those.

  • darn it flask, put up all the rules at once! :P (But it shouldn't have been a surprise)

Oh well, guess it was fun.

But I actually did clear the whole street, since I was lucky.
Posted 12 months ago by Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have wondered this myself and have asked in another thread eons ago, "Why all trees on one street were wood trees?" I see all the arguments of the "Why" of it all and it still does not make sense to me really. One tree sure, but the entire street????

I had that quest I had to plant different trees on different streets. Being just me I wander all over the place harvesting,  but I happened on Wickdoon Mood (this was before the unlaunch). I was looking for dead end streets to do this quest because usually your left alone pretty much on dead end streets. When I arrived on Wickdoon Mood all I saw was wood, wood, and more wood x4. So I thought I found a perfect street to poison and replant. I went to the end of the street and applied poison to the last wood tree.

All the sudden out of nowhere, "Splank" about 3 times, mooned and told to leave. I explained that I was doing a quest and was then told to LEAVE now and do it elsewhere because this street was under the protection of "that group". What the hell???? I didn't feel I was doing anything wrong at all and was treated like crap for just doing a stupid quest!

By the way flask,  I too have seen the remarks of guarding, patrolling, shifts, etc on that street. So your not making this up at all. I have seen it recently when I have done my weekly harvesting round and ended up on Wickdoon Mood and still hear it from time to time and even recently.  I have also seen other players getting abused from "the group" on that street and it makes me sick. So Rook, yes they do all that.

Just so all of you know, I call both flask and Rook friends. Vern was my friend too and I miss him heaps. I understand where flask is however, on this front. It is a bit out of hand with the group that "maintains", for a better word, that street of "wood preserve".  I don't think a handful of people should be dictating anything in this game whether is it Wickdoon Mood, AB, or Neva Neva.

  •  Hmm, the group was made 30 days ago, the post was made 19 days ago...

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you Casombra, and as I've said before, if you could send the names. I'll be sure to get on it. I am surprised to some degree with the abuse you guys have been dealt with, but I'd love more information and would not think that you are lying. I will however, listen to each side.

I do no go on that street and grief people, on my "patrol" I wait for people to harvest all the wood trees, so I can dust them all at once. I don't have to, but by doing so, it is pretty awkward.
Posted 12 months ago by Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • if we are naming abusive members of those groups. Epid splanked and mooned me for about 5 minutes until I finally worked out how to block him using the keyboard. [couldnt click anything] and he wouldn't stop following me, that included when I went to Leftmost Graze for Antidotes. Sprinkles was just obnoxious, but got kicked by Vermilion for breaking the truce.

@Emerald Hill: if you keep calling Flask a troll I am going to report you.
He is a nice guy who has reacted to the bullying behaviour of certain group members by using the economy to get in their face. it is funny, it is creative and it is a great counter to it.

to further explain why all wood trees are now under attack, only the Wood tree group was able to vote on ending the truce, even though I was the co-founder of that truce. it came down to a vote of dominance, should they agree to keep 2 wood and 2 beans or should they kill any other tree than isn't wood all the time. they voted the 2nd option proving that they want to dominate Wickdoon Mood and anyone who tries to "challenge" that dominance. of course if you do challenge them, you are labelled a troll and a griefer while they are up on their soapbox claiming they are doing great deeds for the community as a whole. the group also tried to relocate me by the way.

their argument is that wood is rare. well it wasn't actually that rare at all and it still isn't that rare, everyday a few of us wipe the wood trees from Ur and each new day many more return, this website http://glitch.alwaysdata.net/ proves that, and also makes it incredibly easy for any newbie doing the quest to find one. yet another indication that this is about dominance and power. I will eventually stop killing all wood trees, when the POINT has hit home.

so any other reasons for always having 4 wood trees ?

PS: many of the group have wood trees on their public street and back garden yet still insist on forcing 4 wood trees in wickdoon on the community.

PPS: @Rook, I have no problem with you really, although I don't think I was any more rude to you than you to me.

  • @psibertus You're going to report me for calling someone a trouble maker? Shouldn't you report flask for slandering an entire group without any proof? Perhaps you should report yourself for threatening me.

I'm a nice guy too, but I don't see you sticking up for me now.

Flask is doing what he does out of spite with malicious intent. What is that called? Griefing. I just saw him poison and kill off all the wood trees in mood, which is where I go to get wood since it's the official spot for wood trees. I don't care about this supposed and so-called "Tree War". All I know is there's a street that people maintain wood on and that's where I go to get it. I don't see anyone up and arms about west spice being full of spice trees.
Posted 12 months ago by Emerald Hill Subscriber! | Permalink
  • 1: Their is no official spot for any tree type, believing that is a part of the problem.saying it is a wood preserve does not make so. If it does, its the official Bean Preserve then TY.

2: You don't seem nice at all when you repeatedly call flask a troll, bear in mind he has explained what led him to do the things he does. that hardly makes him a griefer or troll. you do make a good point though.

3: did you miss the long spice/gas war in Ix? got so serious they petitioned the staff to either rename East spice and West spice or make it so only spice plants could be planted in those 2 areas.

  • Emerald Hill: "where I go to get wood since it's the official spot for wood trees. "

It is NOT the "official spot" for anything! If you can present documentation from TS that it is "officially" the spot for wood, I will walk away.

  • you guys do realize there are 820+ streets (not including housing streets) don't you???
Who cares if one freaking street is all of any kind of tree????  There are 819+ other streets you can go to to for whatever harvest you need.

  • Pigs need to be fed regardless of whether or not there are non-wood trees near them.  The whole "trees save pigs" fallacy leads to a lot of dead pigs.  If you find that a pig can't be nibbled, feed it a single meat, and it'll be happy again.

As for the rest of this thread: grow up.
Posted 12 months ago by glum pudding Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Geez, I know there's no official spot for anything. It's the unofficial spot, happy? I'll make sure not to accidently use the wrong word next time as it causes people to lose sight of my point and focus on one thing.

@psibertus Flask doesn't seem nice either, he seems to be attacking a group of people.and going on a crusade to kill all wood trees just because he can't have his way on one street out of the many available, going as far to offer a bounty of them.

What I see is a group of nice people offering a service to the rest of the people playing the game by providing us with a reliable source of usually hard-to-find trees and then I see a brat that is unhappy because he's not the center of the universe and can't have everything his way.

At the end of the day we both could be nice guys, but all we have to go on is what we see in this thread.

@Gadzooks I feel exactly the same way.

@glum pudding When I was there I could nibble all the pigs, so yeah the pigs seem fine.

  • it was self- serving self-important people deciding unilaterally for the rest of us that their sef-styled protectors of the common good needed to make a place where no compromise was available.

it's interesting how we label "people in disagreement with me" as griefers, isn't it?

if anyone had been willing to let the street be part wood and part anything else, i'd be right in there caring for wood trees and in the early days i was until it got all rule-y. for me the turnign point was a day i harvested before i petted and this little squadron of people came down on me to splank and harass me because i hadn't been properly protecting tthe wood preserve, which is silly since nobody had agreed that we should all make it a wood preserve in the first place.

so then i started harvesting without dusting and only found escalating behaviors on the part of the group organized to do what people don't like, a "griefing club" if you will (if you consider griefers to be people who play in opposition to you), but that wasn't enough and they went ahead and publicized that they'd had the brass on them to VOTE on behalf of everyone that compromise was not possible AND they made it personal and that's when i declared war on every wood tree everywhere.

if the group is REALLY about making wood trees available easily, they should consider their actions, because now wood is indeed as rare as they said it was when they started.

before they made it personal i was content to simply get rich on their backs by selling the planks from the fully developed trees every game day.

they cheerfully said that was ok with them, but their actions there and their words here prove them to be not in harmony with the way they wish to present themselves.

so where i would formerly have been content to care for three out of four wood trees on a street, it had to be made four. you know, because we're mighty.

and where i would have been content to make a fortune off of the four and be left alone, i was called out and harassed. you know, because we're mighty. fear us.

so now i will not be content until there is no longer a wood preserve in groddle meadow. when there is no longer a wood preserve in groddle meadow, there will be more wood in this world to preserve.

take it to bortola, or fight until the end of time. meantime, i am getting rich. i am 20k richer now than i was when i started killing wood trees this morning.

i will continue to kill wood trees until the unwanted thing is moved from groddle meadow.

and of course i would kill them right in front of you? why should i not? i am not pretending to be something i'm not. it's no secret i'm killing them. you could have antidoted. i simply and politely went about my business and got called out as a griefer.

i am simply one player mad as hell about the unmitigated arrogance of a small subset of players who feel they have the right to make rules for everybody else. i have always been happy to subvert that paradigm and will continue to do so.

only now that people from that group have chosen to make it personal and have chosen to cut off the avenues for easy resolution, i will not allow them to fall back on what would have been simple resolutions.

too late, my brothers, too late but never mind.

  • Hey, flask: I'm with you on the being tired of people trying to enforce a certain kind of gameplay, but could you leave Bortola out of it please? If what you are truly trying to do is to not let other players be bullies, your saying send it into Bortola (several times) really kind of defeats your argument, because how would that improve anything? Sure it might make life easier for you but might make life more miserable for Bortolans. If it's not okay for people to be mean in Wickodoon Mood, then it's not okay for them to be mean in Bortola either.

We are fighting over nothing but some pixels well aranged. When we die none of what we do in this fe will benefit us in real life, or after we die. If you want to argue about that, then save yourself from addiction.

if you can not understand that people
are different, that you too are allowed
to do whatever you want in the game,
and that only staff are legitimate
judges of who is a griefer and not .

Wasting time on this forum topic
    beyond this post is pretty
    unnecessary, esp if you can't
understand that what I or anyone in
this game says about anything is not
    marked in stone (exceptions being
guidelines and TOS ). If you feel like
there is something wrong, change it.

    Other things:

  • sorry Rook but the debate is far from over.

@Emerald Hill: I already said you do make a good point about being judged on our conduct here. but you have resorted to name calling, notice how I have never actually called anyone else a troll or griefer, only implying that if I am one then so are they. so far all you have really added to this topic is repeated name calling, you haven't really made any valid points.

fact is, the wood group made a number of people feel the same way about the situation, they could of chosen 4 streets and put 2 wood on each, but they chose one and will kill any tree but wood trees. if I kill all trees except beans though how am I the bad guy and them the good guys?

    we are all equal

  • I hardly seeing how troll can be so offensive that someone has to deem it name-calling. Would you rather me call his behaviour trollish instead of him directly or what?

How about Flask insulting the people who reside in Bortola? Or are you not caring about that since he's obviously your friend?
Posted 12 months ago by Emerald Hill Subscriber! | Permalink
  • all he said was "take it to bortola"....hardly what you would call an insult.
or did he say something else too? I'm happy to admit I'm wrong if you have a quote.

me and flask weren't friends until very recently, we actually clashed in Wickdoon Mood too, took awhile for us to realise we were on the same page, but we were never friends before that and we don't really discuss anything else so I feel I am defending him because I think he makes some good points, Rook also makes many on the other side of the argument of course but we are no closer to a resolution. So while Wickdoon Mood is repeatedly changed to 4 wood, me and flask will be using it to profit while maintaining our stance on the proposed monoculture [borrowed the word]

Have a nice day and welcome to The Beanfield" So if you are looking for wood to harvest, I would recommend looking outside Wickdoon Mood except that flask tells me he has succeeded in killing every wood tree in Glitch, even those in the residential areas, just to demonstrate -- something, I'm not really sure what he wanted to show. Somebody did replant 2 wood trees, I'm happy to say. zoggish.appspot.com/locations

  • Vocable was pretty funny yesterday, kept poisoning the same tree repeatedly until she either got bored, gave up or ran out of poison lol. I defended Wickdoon Mood for almost 10hrs? never doin that again haha

    Wood trees create stalkers
Posted 12 months ago by psibertus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i think since vocable has spoken up wrong (AGAIN) i will maybe take pity on her and make her right.

i think i wil begin killing wood trees on ramdomly selected residential blocks.

yes, every time i see a wood tree antidoted or replanted in wickodoon mood, a wood tree on a random residential street will die.

"we are about the trees", they said. "our preserve is important because wood trees are rare"

so we decided to kill every wood tree everywhere after vocable's last little outburst.

"if you are all about the trees," i said, "wouldn't it be more useful to save them all over the world and give up up the street?"

"no", they answered. we are not about the trees. we are about protecting this one street."

so there you have it. it isn't about the trees. it isn't about making a resource available for everyone.

it's about making rules for everyone else and maintaining control.

so have it your way. as long as any wood tree exists in wickodoon mood, wood trees are going to be rare, indeed. and then you will get to fell all important and control-y, which is what you were after in the first place.

Posted 12 months ago by psibertus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I wasn't going to post this but this is all getting a bit nasty and I tend to feel that's not what this game is intended to be about.

For the majority of people, I'd say that one glance at the large numbers of all the other trees would suggest that 4 wood trees - in one street in the whole (non-residential) game world - is acceptable... and perhaps even to be encouraged. If the situation was only 4 bean trees in total, the same would apply. This isn't a "tree war" or an unjustifiable imposition of dress or behaviour, it's the preservation of something. It's also happens to useful and profitable for everyone, as far as I can understand.

I'd say that the ideological point about freedom from arbitrary rules that these wonderfully libertarian players put forward has now been made. But as the disagreement and poisoning (not to mention this thread) goes on, I'd suggest that their point begins to look rather laboured and petty - even bullying, which is never a good look - in the face of a larger, more positive group of co-operating players.

Finally, even if someone came and replanted Estevan Meadows (near my own house) with, for example, 100% bubble trees, I'm pretty confident I could manage to go a few streets further afield for cherries, beans, etc. without arguing with them, poisoning all the trees they'd just planted or declaring some kind of war or retribution. And if those bubble trees made them and, say, 50 of their friends happy, I might even think it was a good thing. But hey, that's just me.

  • @psibertus: It's the first time anyone's ever told me that beans, bubbles and fruit trees (all of which grow in Bortola) are useless. Which makes me laugh since there's community pigs there (3 of which I hatched and raised myself with the intent of putting out more later) and they say they're feeding the pigs, which is funny because once I found they didn't want to be nibbled so I guess they weren't fed. I was told that any useless tree will be poisoned on that block and replaced with wood. There's just ONE patch there, and I would normally not have a problem, if there was more than one patch, and this person hasn't even asked any of the other neighbors what they'd like to have planted. Gee, if there's been a bubble tree for well over 2 months there, what do you think?

  • Whoever said there's no PvP in Glitch has yet to inadvertently stumble into the middle of the tree wars.  I swear, I was "ganked" a week or two ago when some lovable doofus charged up to me and called me a "noob" for watering or planting or doing somesuch other piddly thing.  At least, I think this was the case.  I was already in the grips of a good buzz at the time, and so it's only now that I realize it was probably one of these headache-inducing tree-activist issues that I try (unsuccessfully) to avoid.  For just that instant, though, I was a shiny new level 20 Elyos having slipped, completely undergeared and unprepared, through a rift into Asmodae again.  Or maybe a lowbie Shofangi monk accidentally wandering, for lack of a better map, into Glomdoring's half of Faethorn.  Or (insert your own, more easily identifiable PvP MMO analogy here, because the ones I've played are probably a little "out there").

Srsly.  Before long, I'm going to need some better gear.  Where's my legendary, purple, Formidable Plank of Spriggan, slotted with five +1s to splanking and enchanted with a spell of Mab's Irreparable Dampness?  Which instance do I have to run to get this thing?  Because I've been through Jethimadh tower, and all I got was a stupid rainbow.

Not that I'm saying it isn't all probably a lot of fun.  Wage on, mighty warriors!
