Please stop showing me replies from people I follow to people I don't follow...

My "activity feed" is filled up with posts from my friends like "try dat!" or "haha, I totally agree", which gives me absolutely no information as to what they are replying to, unless I click through.

I only want to see those replies if I am also friends with the person they are replying to. Does that make sense?

Thanks!

  • Hi Bashere,
I agree - I find the home page very confusing.
I simply don't use it or read it.

  • There's been a recent change to that.  Now, if a reply doesn't make sense to you, you can click on it and see the previous conversation, even if it includes people you don't follow.

I've found some interesting new Glitch friends that way; friends of friends who turned out to have intriguing things to say.

  • +1 Bashere.  The new feed confuses me, too!

  • I love the idea of having the feed, but I gotta agree it's pretty confusing indeed.

  • It could use some tweaking. I'd really like it if conversations were easier to follow. If I reply to someone and then go to sleep, I wake up and have no idea if they've carried on the conversation and are awaiting a response from me or not.
I personally don't mind seeing their replies to non-friends, as sometimes it's nice to meet new people, but I can understand how it could get irritating.

  • Although I think the homepage could be better, I like this aspect. I have met several people this way that I would not have met otherwise!

  • What I wish they would add is some kind of notification system. I've missed comments people have made to me and I don't want it to look like I dont care or am ignoring anyone

  • A visual redesign is coming to this very soon which will make things easier to understand. Along with that redesign will come the ability to see replies and in-reply-tos "inline" (without having to go to another page to view them). Then, if you see an update which is just something like "I know, right?!", you'll be able to click to expand and get all the context (or just ignore).

MAYBE later we'll add an option to filter these out of your feed, but as long as you can (i) easily see when it is a reply and (ii) get all the context with a single click without having to leave the page, it should be easy enough to ignore or not, as you see fit.

Also, it SHOULD currently show you when someone replies to you, even if you are not following them. We'll test this!

  • Ooh thanks stoot

  • Thanks a lot, Stoot :)

On that same issue, I wish there was also an easy way to check new topics and replies in the groups I'm in. It doesn't have to be a feed. I guess something telling me, at the Groups page, which groups had activity since last time I visited would be awesome already.

  • Sorry but I'm not a fan of the feed being right on the Home page without any option to minimize it if I don't want to see it.  Why not do what Facebook does where you have a separate Feed page you can click on if you want to see what your friends are saying?

I really enjoy seeing how my friends are progressing in the game with their level ups and skills progression but that gets buried with this new feed.

  • @stoot mentioned when these feeds first started that they planned on tweaking them; that they weren't yet satisfactory yet.  I'm sure the staff is experiencing the same annoyances as the rest of us. :)

  • Actually, I like that I now can follow the feed of the person that I don't normally follow...it was much more confusing before, IMO to have random responses and I didn't have a clue to what the original comment was...and at least now it links it so it saves me a bunch time not having to look at my friend's friend page and then to that person's profile in hopes that the original comment was still there...

However, I will agree that it could use some tweaking to be more user friendly.  Glad that is coming!

  • What stoot suggested will work while the player base remains small... but as Twitter learned, once you explode (as I hope Glitch explodes), the feed becomes much more unmanageable as more and more people are having conversations with more and more people. The activity feed becomes much less useful at that point - which is why Twitter implemented the suggestion I started the thread with. :)

  • Oh... glad someone brought this up. It's been an issue for me too.

  • I agree! I also have the issue of someone that I have 'unfollowed' still filling up my activity field.

  • I agree with Bashere on the impact a growing membership will have on the feed on the Home page.  I would rather see what my friends are working on, what achievement they just got, who leveled up, like before this new Feed feature, rather than a bunch of conversations going on that I'm not interested in following or reading, yet it's right there, staring me in the face, every time I go to my Home page.

Even though I'm not a fan of the feed, I'm not saying to get rid of it.  Others like it and that's fine.  But why not put it off to the side?

Example (on the left side of the Home page):

    HOME
    ALL
    REQUESTS
    UPDATES
    FEED

That frees up valuable real estate on the Home Page and still keeps access to the feed available on the Home page.

  • I totally agree with oli kins. I've had to block a couple of lovely people because they literally spam the feed during every waking hour :(

  • i think it's hard to say for sure what will work best for the updates until the game is open all the time and the notices are brought in-game or whatever madness you guys are working on now -- but i agree that updates have gotten a bit out of control recently.  i find myself wanting not necessarily to hide people, but maybe give them a temporary time-out from my home page or something.

  • I'm glad there are changes coming. I stopped befriending people because I didn't want to see more random replies.
