Help getting my first house

I'm looking for a house(to place icons, have animals, drop items..), I want a cottage but all of them seem occupied, and I don't know if it's good to wait this much for one to be free to pick.

So I need some advice about which zones are better(distance to subway and surroundings I guess) and maybe about the types. Also I'd rather not buy a 30k or 50k, they look kinda bland.

I have Mining 4, but I plan to get gardening, AK etc. to max.

Thanks a lot.

  • This likely won't answer all your questions as owning your first virtual home comes with a lot of personal insights to consider, however it should give you a start.

There's also quite a bit in the forums about ideas for good placement as well as upcoming changes to the "housing problem".  Search some keywords and see if there's something out there that might help you out a bit.  Good luck!

  • get a tree house. cheap, and plenty of them.

  • Proximity to a subway station was my criteria.     I like the modern house look (to each their own, right?) but being a block from the subway means most of Ur is pretty much at my doorstep.   I did NOT like living in Tamila where I had to walk a whole region to get to the subway.

Another consideration is Bog vs non-bog.  Bog resources are completely different than non-bog resources and each has their fans.

I recommend buying an inexpensive apartment or treehouse to start and then spend time experiencing Ur.   You'll find yourself going places and doing things, and a second home selection will naturally follow from that. .

  • I agree with @crashtestpilot, the 4k tree houses are good value starter homes unless you'd particularly like an egg plant - in which case you need a cave home.

  • I recommend Sini Shakes.. it's where I'm living now.  It's pretty centrally located to the mines at Pollokoo / Callopee as well as the Ancestral Lands, if you're into that, and it has enough space in the backyards to do some gardening and have animals too so your AK skills, when you get them, won't go to waste.

  • If you go for a tree house you'll have the widest range of places to choose from.

  • For me, the best value for my currant was a starter rock/cave house...at 4,000c, I got not only two regular trees and some garden plots, but also a dark patch for an eggplant, and plenty of metal for mining. Tree houses are good if you like gardening, and don't mind climbing all the time, but were pretty meh to me...

Now, I prefer either the largest bog house, or the largest cottage house.  Love the herb gardens of the bogs, but also like having 5 trees (with zero climbing).

As someone else said, get a cheap house to see where you spend most of your time.  Sure there is something for subway convenience, but over time, you may find you spend more time teleporting.  Best to figure out how you play the game before settling in...though there is nothing to stop you from house hopping either...sometimes that is fun and helpful to keep the hoarding inventory down.

  • I got an apartment for 1500 near Callopee, the 300 I'll lose for selling it it's worth the free teleport(needed to go to Callo and was far) and place my icon.

There are Salatu 50k houses avalaible now, should I get one?

  • The first thing I'll say is make your mind up soon as they rarely last more than a couple of days :0)

As for whether it's for you, it depends on your play style and preferences in terms of decor. Their plain and minimalist interior is definitely not for everyone although I find it restful myself.

They're ideal for players with a lot of AK and croppery skills due to the large pen and 28 plots. They also have oodles of space for dumping stuff on the floor if that's your thing!

  • I too started out with a treehouse until a I got my 50K house! The treehouse wasn't so bad really and I was close to plenty of trees and animals! I agree with many of them here, the treehouse is a great starter house!

  • After I got the apartment I saw  a 4.5 at Bortola, but was sold before I could pick my icon.

Then I bought a 3.9k at groodle meadow, and some hours later a player said at chat that a 10k gaming house was avalaible so sold my 3.9k and got the other.

In conclusion I have a 10k(with gaming theme!), next to the sign, 1 street away from the subway, 1 station away from tool vendor, 2 from ancestral lands. I'm very happy :D
