An open-ended musing-type question. When the old homestead goes away and your new home is all in your mind, where in Ur do you see yourself spending your time?
I can't answer yet because I'm still pondering it...
Since the new housing came in I've spent most of my time around the Groddle area for resources and easy access to the tool vendor for increasing currants. Trees and rocks are pretty easy to obtain with a batterfly nest one street over from the top of the heights.
Not sure I know m'self. Since img came in, I've definitely found myself out in the world more, but I've been feeling pangs for Salatu already. I think of it as home, really, but how will I feel when my home in Mangane Gaps is gone? Will I wander the street forlornly? I'll only know for sure when it happens.
It's interesting. I've really liked having a Firebog house, but I've spent so little time in that area of Ur. Since finishing off my teleport skills, I've generally spent my time exploring the northeastern parts of Ur, and coming back to Jethimadh only to feed my pigs, tend my herbs and reflect on my icons. So, I highly suspect that moving entirely over to the home in my mind is not really going to change my behavior much.
I travel the world a lot more now since I'm not tied by distance to any one area; Bortola will always hold a special place in my heart though. Right now I have the mystic backdrops, though I really like the Uralia ones as well. I guess I'll wait until the reset before I"ll know what I'll stick with. If there's an Ilmenskie Deeps styled one, then I shall totally have that.
I have been spending a lot more time on the bog street where my loft apartment is and have been spending less time inside the apartment. Since I've had that apartment since the reset I expect that I will continue to call this place "home" even after I get evicted.
Oh give me a home
where I'll put up my gnome
and I'll make it however I want
Like a meadow of grass
or a bog home that's class
or dark forest where the rooks haunt
"Oh give me a home
where I'll put up my gnome
and I'll make it however I want
Like a meadow of grass
or a bog home that's class
or dark forest where the rooks haunt"
Home, home in the woods
Where the piggies and chickens eat food
Where elf's sometimes heard
dropping big stinky turds
on some unsuspecting Glitch's front door.
Gnome, gnome in the Grange,
Where the newbs and the low-levels plaaaaaay,
We're seldom insured
Against hearing bad words
And poor grammar in Global all daaaaaay...
I've more or less moved out of my old home in Andra and have started spending more time in the Groddle area with the new housing release. It's kind of a crossroads? Whatever resource I can't get there, I can get generally just moving one region north or south. I do miss my second home in the firebog, though...
I'll be "living" in 3 places (3 TP point): in the ancestral lands (to restore energy, mood and to get currants and iMG), in Callooppee (to mine sparkly and dullite) and in Alakol (to mine metal).
Plus the occasional trip to the Groddle area.
Uralia! Uncle Friendly's is close, as well as the spice trees, and GFJ's two streets away. Also, there's a crab and a paper tree AND two gas trees so what more could you possibly need? Company? THERE ARE ALWAYS GLITCHEN IN CEBARKUL.
How cool would it be if eventually we could use imagination put an exit out to a street from our home street? I think I'd pick either Kalavana or Aranna. Or maybe Jacob's Climb in GH.
Unfortunately that would give you what is essentially a free teleport point.
There was someone in ideas awhile back who couldn't understand why he couldn't enter the world wherever he wanted, rather than back where he left it. Same sort of thing - you would never need to teleport.
Actually, I'd do it like this: You make a door, using wood and snails and a door potion. It appears as a hyperspace portal door, but slightly bigger and a different color. You can pick it up and put it down where-ever you want and it goes to your HOUSE. You can only ever have one at a time. Keyholders can enter and others can knock. You can take it into your own imagination and then to other people's streets, but you can't teleport it anywhere, you have to go there first. Maybe it wears out and needs to be repaired occasionally, but it definitely costs something to make. Maybe, every time you place it you need to activate it with a door potion, I don't know. These are all possibilities.
But almost any mixture of these traits would prevent it from being a free teleport!
The only problem with it is that these things could end up really cluttering up Ur.
Exactly, Kirnan, so where will you spend your time?
Personally, I think I'll spend most of my time in Groddle, for the rich resources, and easy access to mining, spice and a tool vendor. But when I've had too much of the hustle and bustle, I always head north :)
I plan to set my /home in a nice calming sunny, sandy beach setting...here's hoping they have one...otherwise...not sure where I'll be...sigh...
As far as Ur, it would likely be Groddle Meadow...love the happy pretty bright flowers there. Fell in love with the streets when I first came in game. All the others seem so drab to me. I do like that Uralia and Ix are quirky, but GM still wins me over every time.
In Ur, I seem to be spending most of my time in Groddle and Uralia lately...especially for the iMG the crabs provide, the heavy piggy and tree resources, and proximity to the Tool vendor and mining in Ilmenski. I really hope they eventually will spread out (or add) the crabs since I seem to be in a rut, now that I figured out how valuable they are and have optimized a route to hit most of them each game day. I also wish they would add a tool vendor or two to each of the regions of Mazza'la and Grumbla to force me to wander more (even though I know they are eventually phasing out most of the vendors)...I don't know why I'm so frugal with my TP tokens to get back to the tool vendors, since I have plenty...but only like to use them to pop into the ancestral lands...there are so many changes to this game though, that after the housing reset, I hope to re-strategize my game play...since there are so many things I think I could be doing better with this great new shiny system we have.
Even though my Ur house is in Kalavana right now I always will consider myself a resident of Rasana, though it does not have any unique resources its my favorite region.
