We are back!

And it’s up!  The grand Imagination Conversion of ‘12 completed a few minutes ago.

Two big things in the game changed with this update: we’ve switched to the new Imagination system and overhauled the UI.

Glitches now have Imagination (iMG) instead of experience points (xp).  As you gain Imagination by playing, you can spend it on Upgrades (as well as expanding and cultivating your property … and other stuff, still to come).

The various Upgrade Cards do things like increase your brain capacity, add one-off improvements to skills you’ve learned, increase bonuses for activities in the game and even enable whole new capabilities. You can choose from 3 possible Upgrade Cards at any given time. You’ll be able to “re-shuffle” to see different upgrades once each game day.

We also reorganized and modified the game interface to streamline, simplify and better reflect these changes. Look in the upper left corner to check out the new energy and mood display, as well as the revamped “player menu” (just click on your pretty face). The iMG button next to it opens the “imagination menu” which is the new home for skills, upgrades, and moving back and forth from the surface world to imaginary spaces, like your house.

Of course, there’s a lot more detail than mentioned here.  If you want the nitty-gritty, check out the FAQ! http://www.glitch.com/help/faq/#imagination

So get in game and check it out.  We love reading your feedback and be sure to let us know of any problems you encounter.

See you in game!

---------

Q: Where is the keyring?
A: It is disabled temporarily; it will be back in the game, but not right away.

Q: The new growl messages (explanation/notification text at the bottom of the screen) are bugging me!
A: We are still working on the final design for this, but they will bug you a lot less soon anyway, since a large number of them will just stop showing up and go straight to your activity log (e.g., almost all animal interactions, since those already give you feedback via talk bubbles).

Q: I see random XP notices here and there!
A: We haven't taken all out yet, but we've got most of them cleaned up. If you see something else, go ahead and open a case and we'll be sure it's on the list if it isn't already.

  • Mining IV let me mine in 4 seconds before the new update.  Now it's taking me 8 seconds and I'm only getting like four or five chunks of sparkly. :l

  • @Thy Nguyen: Upgrade your mining skills via the cards.
Look for Manic Miner cards.  I have most of them, and it's removed that particular pain.

  • Anyone know if leveling still increases mood/energy tank, or does that only happen with the upgrade cards now?
Posted 7 months ago by echinodermata Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I leveled 30->31 and it did not change mood/energy.

The more iMG I spend, the happier I am with the new card system.  My mining is sorted, I've got 4x super harvests on trees and they are frequent, shucking gives crazy amounts of seeds, and my metal machine plays heavy metal!  Pure win!  I'm disappointed that there doesn't seem to be a card to get my 10 grain per squeeze back, but that's pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

I'm finding it a lot more fun to try to earn iMG than XP.  I didn't really feel like I gained much from leveling.  Earning iMG has a much more direct affect on my Glitch and I really like that.

  • Glitch is my favorite game i've ever played. i feel so lucky to get to test all of these new things in beta. like a kid in a candy store. i smile every time i enter the world, and the new imagination system took maybe one hour to get accustomed to. i'll admit, it was a slightly confused, stressed hour. but it needn't have been. and in the scheme of things...it was only one hour. not even a full game day. i will gladly take one scary-face hour if it means months or years of awesome happiness smile-face play-time glee magic.
i appreciate all the changes and growth to the game. i am out there exploring areas i haven't been to in 200 days and i will continue to smile every time i enter the world and come across something new.
thanks, Tiny Speck. keep doin what you do.

  • Well said Beans! Every time I start hyperventilating, I remember that ts could have decided to go through a full reset. After all, glitch is still in beta and the changes have been huuuuge. Instead, they made sure that we had plenty of iMG to bring us back to where we were, albeit via cards.
Love, love, LOBE the game and the direction the game is going.

  • I would like to be a wet blanket in a whole different way.

I find the cards and imagination to be somewhat interesting.  No real complaints.

House decoration bores me, although I do appreciate the basic functionality of being able to get my stuff off the floor now.

The rest of the game hasn't changed all that much.  I would like to see more lands, quests and otherwise Glitch-ily interesting things, and I hope you'll see fit to pay the devs working on those items a little overtime.

  • I love all the upgrades so far, and look forward to more similar ones and greater customization, myself, and feel like this is more of the game I originally signed up to play, but... I also would like to support WalruZ's last sentiment!  I look forward to even more creativity from the team, more animals like the sloths and foxes, more quests, etc.

(emphasis on forward, of course, as I understand these things take time and you're probably already planning on them)

  • I really don't like getting the warning "quack" when I choose an iMG card. That's the sound associated with mistakes or gardening too fast or other negative feedback.

Please, give us a cheerful chime or toot or clapping sound or crowd roar or something POSITIVE  to associate with our upgrades.

  • I'm just hoping the IMG cards become tradeable :). ANd that maybe there'd be some sort of game you can play with others using them. Even if it's just tic tac toe.

  • I don't care whether you use XP or iMG; it matters not to me, but I think in this conversion that the experienced players are getting screwed.  For instance I was Level 38 last time I was on and then got rudely booted off, with no warning I might add, and now I'm down to level 27.  That doesn't really bother me I don't care about those kinds of numbers,  but I do care about
ENERGY as it determines how much I can get done.  I believe I earned every bit of ENERGY I had which WAS over 1300, but now has been whacked down to 800; that's over a 500 point hit.  That is a serious hit.  I haven't figured out how it affects MOOD yet, but I'm certain we got screwed there too.

I for one don't like this iMG thing; I thing the Experienced Players are getting screwed and without Vaseline.

    That's my opinion.
Posted 7 months ago by SuitePeez Subscriber! | Permalink
  • SuitePeez, the iMG you started with was meant for re-growing your energy capacity. I think you can make it even bigger than before if you want to.

Experienced players are discovering that imagination isn't good for anything unless you use it :D

  • I was only level 31 before the swap, now level 24 IIRC, but I can assure you the IMG system is better from an ENERGY perspective. I can assure you of this because I consider myself a master levitor! In Glitch there is no faster way to burn energy than through sustained levitation. I could go through my entire pool of 1050 energy before the swap in less than 30 seconds if I paid attention. I could die faster than anyone else I hang with a good portion of whom were level 60s.

In the new system levitation seems to burn energy just as quickly if you're staying airborne. But there are now things that allow you to lengthen the time and make larger leaps when levitating. This same principle applies to almost every other thing you can do as well. I've seen energy reducers, yield boosters and time shorteners for every activity you can perform as well as some activities you couldn't.

What's important to realize is that, if desired, you can now focus those benefits into activities that you do the most via the cards. So even with a lower total energy pool I now tend to burn through it more slowly. And I regained several levels worth of energy far more quickly than I would have under the old system.

So less energy lasts as long as, in many cases, a larger amount of energy in the old system, and now you can boost that total more quickly, meaning an even bigger effective pool.

It's a shock if you haven't been keeping up on the updates to come into the system all at once but on the whole, and especially regarding energy required to do X, where X is practically anything at all, the new system is a LOT more efficient.

  • @Pascale Thanks a lot for the bug. I went ahead and fixed it (you'll see it on your next reload) and added in a sound when you get the upgrade. Should feel a lot better now :D

  • SuitePeez: We were given 30 minutes warning, then something like 5 minutes, with constant messages from GOD in the local chat the last whole minute. These messages stated that we'd be kicked out for several hours. The level changing during this conversion was mentioned months ago (and many times within those months).

As others have stated, you can get that energy pool back and more, quite quickly. You can become better than you were before the change. Just spend your iMG on those cards, and hopefully, you'll be happier with the change in the long run.

(I like your name by the way. :) )

  • I'm not liking the new sound for imagination upgrading, I think its going to be very grating after we have heard it a few times a day, could there be perhaps a few different tones that alternate?

    another sound related thing

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not but having got both upgrades to allow chat whilst meditating I get the fail sound at the end of my meditaion which kind of ruins the ambiance, I had hoped that the new upgrades would mean I wouldnt hear that jarring sound unless i decided to deliberately break my meditation. I love the meditation melodies so perhaps im extra sensative when this happens but still it would be better if meditation ended without being jolted back from the bliss meditating brings

  • Okay, so I'm sure the devs grimace when I post, since I know I can be a rather harsh critic at times...it's also why I was waiting to post my feedback, since I quickly realized I wasn't sure what end was up initially with the upgrade.  I've been doing a lot of forum reading, though I've not had much time to play this week (RL commitments)...but as I thought about and absorbed the changes, I have to say, I'm pretty impressed, and quite thrilled that the game is fun again.

Yea, so we got nerfed a bit on some skills...but now I can build out my skills to a fine level of detail...I like to mine, but I often don't mine certain types of rocks...now, I get to define down to the type of rock, which ones I'll spend iMG on...how cool is that?!  Before it was all or nothing, and now I can really personalize my experience...cooking skills seem to be the same way...I can really build up my skill level with the cooking utensils I use a lot, and ignore some of the other upgrades, and 'save up' my iMG for things I want to spend it on...

Sure...I might have to wait for a card to come up (and yea, initially this did sort of rub me a bit wrong), but I love that not everything is just handed to us...it takes time and patience now.  I love that it IS random (ie, sometimes you are going to get the same cards over and over in 'runs' in true random patterns) and not systematically scheduled in a pattern that we will eventually discern and likely use to game the system...

I love the new exploring with the Qurazy Quoins (and LOVE LOVE LOVE that they are Quoins again and not boring old coins).

I intentionally waited to explore areas of Ur, and purposefully didn't race to level 60, and I suspect that was the best thing I could have done, since I'm probably a much more satisfied player right now... Patience is a virtue, I hear...not that I'm all the virtuous..but in this case, I'm super glad I was a bit patient.   Looking forward to play through the game with all the changes...and yes, knowing me, will likely create an alt to have the newb experience once the tutorial is upgraded...for me, the fun is in the journey...and I think the journey just got vastly improved...

Okay, so you know it couldn't all be flowers, rainbows and sunshine.  Will agree some of the new interface items are challenging, and look forward to tweaks to some of them in the future...most have been mentioned many times, so I won't beat those horses...I will say, the new inventory layout with tabs is a bit cluttered looking...though I do like the little plus to open the bag easily. Though I know there is lots of discussion over this too in another thread...so look forward to see what will come.  Most of it is just getting used to the 'new' way to do things...and I'm here to say, you can teach an old dog new tricks... ;)

Thanks for all the hard work...looking forward to continuing to play with the new interface and the new way to play the game.  I have to cast my vote on the side of this overhaul is a winner...sorry that some that raced to 60 or who expected everything to remain static have their panties in a wad...but it goes like that...especially in a beta...(((hugs to the devs)))

  • There's plenty of room on the personal Skills screen to provide more information about the skill you're currently learning: i.e., the speed you're learning at and Primary and Secondary Giant information. That would be really helpful.

  • Am in complete agreement with Faereluth that the harsh quack at the end of a long meditation totally undoes any actual relaxation benefit.
Posted 7 months ago by Pascale Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I reached level 60 knowing it would give me a better head start when the game switched to imagination and it already has.  All of my skills are back to where they were including some bonus extras related to cooking wear and tear! Even get more from the quoins in game than I did before so it's been a win/win situation for me. i wasn't afraid to blow that IMG on ALL the upgrades when we were able to get back into the game.  I didn't bother picking and choosing as I figured out pretty quickly that the imagination we were given was to allow us to pretty much get back to where we were when it changed over (or thereabouts for some of the lower level players).

The only downside for me at this time is I'll have to start watching my mood again - got so used to not caring about it! On the plus, it's kind of fun to get rewarded for bothering all those piggies again hehehehehehehe

  • It's a really nice touch that zoom levels persist from street-to-street again.

Also @Pascale & @Faereluth, if you meditate to metal music, the quack probably won't bother you at all. The meditation music, on the other hand, is somehow less soothing with simultaneous metal. The metal music gave me a good laugh and made me fall in love with my metal machine a little. Wait, I mean I rocked out. Hard. Nothing sappy  >.>

  • Just wanted to say that I'm really enjoying the new changes! That is all.
Posted 7 months ago by Idalia Dahlia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thank you Tiny Speck and everyone who has worked so hard on this - you must all be exhausted!  I'm really enjoying the changes.

Just throwing an idea that occurred to me as I read some aggrieved forum posts:

I wonder if the overarching idea is that we were given enough imagination in the conversion to spend our way back to where we were with level and learning skill bonuses etc.  Once the housing change comes in, I wonder if we'll be given imagination in the conversion to bring our houses back to the level they were (ie, the equivalent of a 30k house with plot and patch, 50k house with bigger plots etc), and we will therefore be left with a level of imagination that reflects the xp we had gathered before the change that we can spend on upgrades and housing in addition to where we were before the changes, and of course we will be adding to our imagination pots every time we do something.

TL: DR - spend away as the imagination we currently have has been converted with the aim of helping us get back to the way we were (or, in fact better as it's possible to specialise and some of the bonuses are much better...)?

  • Is there any way to know how many cards we currently have left in our stack?  Thanks!

It seems to me that reshuffling lately is no longer costing iMG...is this the way it's supposed to be or am I glitched?

  • I am wondering what the exchange will be like for the old houses. Just currants? Or maybe some iMG equivalent so it can translate directly into home improvements?
Posted 7 months ago by Aleph Zero Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ratbag:  Spend away!

TS has changed the basic operation of the skills. The bonus things you got with higher level skill learning are not automatically tied to the skills themselves any more. You still have to learn the higher level skills in order to have the upgrade cards for those skill bonuses available in your deck, though. Once those upgrades show up in the hand you are dealt, you can spend your iMG on them if you choose.

For all the skills you learned, TS credited you with the iMG necessary to both reflect the fact that the skills were learned, plus enough iMG (and the correct upgrade cards) to "buy back" the bonuses you had formerly gained from just learning the skills. (They gave you iMG instead of just giving you back the bonuses so that you would have the choice of where to spend that iMG.)
As far as housing, iMG will only be used on expanding and cultivating your land (both front and back). Stoot has said that about 100K iMG will be enough to expand your land to where it is now in your test house (maybe with a bit left over). The house itself will be expanded and/or upgraded through building materials and elbow grease, not iMG.
TL;DR: Spend that imagination, that is what it is for.

  • Wooot!! Just got back in last night and wheeeeee. LOVE the iMG. The cards are also so much fun - a great mechanic.
You are doing fun and amazing stuff and I can't wait to see what's next!
Posted 7 months ago by Fogwoman Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I, too, hope that our old houses convert to iMG instead of currants. Converting to iMG let's us re-build our home spaces (yard plots, resources) and the like the same way we could "build" before by spending currants to by the resource types and associated home decor we wanted. Converting to currants would make no sense IMHO
Posted 7 months ago by Snowpuff Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Snowpuff If we do get currants back you can always use them to buy some things off auction and donate those for imagination :) Bonus for doing that is that things often sell for less than their actual value, which happens to be the only thing shrines care about ;)
Posted 7 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • *takes notes as fast as possible* Liza knows what she's talking about. Straight currant conversion would be the easiest to implement, too.
Posted 7 months ago by Aleph Zero Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hmm, let's think about this. 50k currants would be a big house in the mansionlands up north if we got a full refund. (Which would make the most sense as we aren't exactly selling voluntarily to buy a new one :P)

With 50k currants you could probably buy... 6250 meat off auction at 8c each. (Actual value 62,500) Then you could donate, under EHSP of course, that meat to a couple shrines, more than a few shrines if your limits are lower, and receive... 45,000 imagination.

It's debateable whether that is enough for you, but it is what it is :) According to Stoot that's 45% of what you need to *fully upgrade your new house.

*Stoot has a tendency to be a bit unclear. This is pretty understandable considering it'd ruin the surprise if he just told us everything flat out ;) So it may turn out he means something completely different by his comment.
