Topic: Your ideas + Our next videos = Yay!

We are putting together a series of 20-30 second videos to highlight specific features in Glitch. Kind of like this one, but maybe a bit longer and with more explanation.

There's an almost infinite amount of stuff we could cover, but we want to focus what would make it easiest to explain the game to your friends. Here are some we’re considering:

  • Crafting Furniture (how to make an item from scratch and where to get the materials you need)
  • House customization (indoor as well as outdoor)
  • Towers and SDB Stores
  • Collaboration (helping others mine, etc.)
  • Puzzle quests

What do you think? If you could get just one short video in front of someone you want to start playing with you, what would it be?

  • Rube Traders, pretty self-explanatory. Bad trades, Rube upgrades and of course good trades.

Gardens, water, plant, harvest, hoe and Master Gardener and all it entails.

  • Something that shows how different this is from other MMO's. . .how it's non-violent, cooperative and especially creative and oh so fun.

  • i think all those elements and others are important but for me its the community that attracts, binds and keeps us in here.  Given the wealth of knowledge of all the testers in here there must be some marketing types with a view?
i would have a series of videos - as you say 20-30 secs long with the overarching banner title of "what is glitch?" each segment could cover the trades so cooking (with outrageious french music) mining (with digging dwarfy type music) bouncing (lots of glitches jumping and quoin collecting with bouncy music) games (such as GOC, cards) and so on.....
but above all the vids in my opinion, have to show the breathtaking artwork of all the streets and lands and the stylish cute cartoon gaphics as they are the keys to drawing people in - the gameplay and community are what will keep them.

  • I think one showcasing some of the amazing player art and gatherings would be amazing. Something that shows what happens when players go beyond the fundamentals and do Very. Cool. Things.

ETA: we might start with petting and nibbling...but lookit what ELSE can happen, generated by the players with what we have to hand.

  • A street wide sneezing fit, and the aftermath of beans.

It's downright silly, and that's the whole point.

  • I don't know how long it would take to showcase things this way but this is how I would do a video of Glitch:
I would start on a home street with all sorts of resources. I would say how resources are vital to your survival in Glitch. I would be harvesting and such with the resources and then in walks in two or three friends who would begin to help harvesting and such. Then we could move to the house or tower that had many customizations in it. One person would say to the other that they wanted to craft some furniture/food/etc. but were out of X. Second person would say "oh I have some" and they would go to tower/house/other side of yard to get it. Then they could all go to the subway, or teleport to a puzzle quest or Game or crowns. They could even all die together to show that Hell is not a bad place.

This is roughly how I go about my day in Glitch (condensed version) so that's what I would showcase to a friend interested in signing up. The intricacies of donating, and feats, and potions and such that the higher level players can get into will be able to be explored once they are in the game and are not necessary to beginning the game.

That means more videos like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpdMsWAXvCc& or this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuSxwPwSyEQ

I know, I know, you were asking something else. But still, I would like to see more of these videos.:)

  • I'd like to see something about how resources on your Home Street are public: Other players using them, replanting, restoring, etc. and then also an "ooh look at all the iMG you got for what other players did on your street." Sort of a combo of good street etiquette (don't leave rock stubs, shuck and replant) and the benefits of having people on your street.

    +1 to the art/museum showcase

    +1 to the collaborative aspects/benefits

  • To me the biggest draw is the social part. So I'd show the gatherings, the scenes people set up in their towers, the flash mob like attacks of things on people's streets.

  • I think one thing you could try and capture would be one of the "random" pieces of art people make. Random is in quotes because for the purpose of the video, it should be setup in advance.

Maybe go through the snaps, find an active player who made something in the past, and ask them to recreate it, or if possible, recreate it for them and have them show up for the video. :)

I offer this as an example of what I mean:

  • I believe house customization, furniture and tower can scare new players because besides they are all lonely actions, it requires credits to try the better options.

Come on! All players can do everything in equal chances. This is so beautiful! One of the greatest thing in this game is that you can't pay to get advantage. And I believe this is the subject to focus.

Rook attacks always get newbies attention. So as death and hell (and a bar down there!). Skills and donations really clear their minds and most important doubts. Many players just want to know if they will be able to do something great without credits - yes, they can! And I don't think it's a good idea to show them only things with credits related.

Introduce The Rube is cool because make them travel trough the world to find him. I mean they shouldn't spend their first moments lonely and stuck in their own home streets, houses and towers. We have many different type of regions and I always find newbies trying to discover if there is only a forest for tree hugs.

This is an awesome game which I'm playing for over a year. Really addictive! But it requires a bit longer time to discover all of potentials. It's nice to spend time in the house or the tower, but it's even better to do it after you reach a higher level by your own. The more new players spend time in their personal places, more this will look like facebook games AND THIS IS SO DIFFERENT THAN FACEBOOK!

It would also be nice to see the social part of the game in this video. Glitch is a great place to make friends all over the world, players like to help each other, make parties and quests together. There's a huge number of groups and Global Chat is so cool as Local Chat in popular streets. The message here is: you are not alone!

Maybe auctions is a usefull tool for newbies. Subway system, vendor locations on the map can help them too. But I don't know if there's already another way TS is doing to show them these things.

Anything staff decide, I'm sure will be the best solution. I just want to provide a huge feedback this time because I really feel it in my heart <3

Love you all (as old-beta players used to shout on the last seconds before the world gets closed)!

  • How other players can use things on your home street and why this is a good thing. In the process, the video would also show how to cultivate your home street and back garden and explain the difference between the two (i.e. private vs. public). But the key takeaway would be how others can use things on your home street and why that's a good thing.

  • I agree with showcasing some of the more social aspects but, I think, individual stuff is good, too. If it seemed overly social, I'd have run away... I don't tend to be very social in games (I know! but it's true!)

I like games where there are some individual challenges that I can keep challenging myself with... so I'd show off quests. The quest beep, opening the quest log and seeing a list (a few completed, a few to go) and then heading off to do one and then, maybe, fast forwarding through it, and then getting the quest complete notification.

I think acreditando's idea of a rook attack is a great one. The rook attack is one of the coolest things in the game  (once, maybe three times. ok, five. But after five or maybe seven times it's a bit lacking in excitement...y'all need to make it more better for repeated defeatings because I really do love them. not to derail, but this is important ;))

With the mining one, though it's not the same as it used to be, I think it'd be cool to show off a tiny bit of some Ajaya craziness.

  • I love the idea of highlighting Rube Trades...maybe some good ones, maybe some bad ones...and especially some funny ones like this warning for young glitches...that still has to be my most favorite Rube trade ever.

Maybe a video that highlights just the various animal interactions - piggies, chickens, butterflies, sloths, foxes, crabs...

A separate video about plant interactions - trees, crops, herbs...

A video about party packs and the different celebrations in Ur like Zilloween, Croppaday, Feat parties.

Maybe a video about guidelines of courtesy from the newbie pointers thread...with the historic or B&W filter so it looks like one of those 1950's school films...

  • oooo a holiday & party packs video is a great idea.

Trading could be a useful video. I've had quite a few new players open trades with me and then close out immediately, seemingly a bit freaked out by it. Could be a part of a "thriving economy" sort of set up.

  • I'd like to see a snappy 30 second montage of donating something to a shrine, and all the steps to get there.  So you see the shrine donation, and then it goes backwards to show making the EHSP, backwards to mining the rocks, back to making the earthshakers, and back to collecting and converting all the ingredients.  Or purchasing ingredients, or trading for them or what have you.

  • Wow - some excellent ideas in this thread!

Many of you put a great deal of thought into your replies and we'll do our best to incorporate all the good suggestions.

It was interesting to have the Rube come up so frequently - we'll have to see about including him somehow. :)

Keep the ideas coming while we're at it!
