Addictions and withdrawals

Trying to get away from winter, in RL I came south. The place I chose to stay says it has a Wi Fi connection. Well, it's not the best. I am frustrated that I can't get into the game. I was able to be on 2 days ago for a couple of hours....now nothing. I don't know enough about computers to download anything. I used a wifi connection at home and in the hotels coming down, but here it does not seem to meet my needs.

I am checking the newspaper for a 12 step program.....**shaking head...feelin' blu**

  • If you can find out where the wifi router is and move your computer closer to it, that should help. Also, since hotel wifi is shared by other guests, try to find times that not many others are using it. For me, Firefox works better than Chrome or Safari on slow connections. Shut down email and anything else on your own computer that would complete for bandwidth when you play Glitch.

As for curing your addiction, I have no solutions.. Only ways I've used on the road to sustain mine. **shaking head also **

  • Hotels with wifi connections also often have wired connections: see if there is a desk with a cable you can plug into your computer. If so, that should be faster.

  • Yea, most wifi locations aren't that good - I usually can't play the game when on the road.  In addition to the suggestions above, also check out other locations with wifi - local coffee shops, public libraries, pubs/restaurants/fast food locations that advertise wifi...one should have a connection that might meet your gaming needs.

  • I have a similar problem - if you can call it a problem! I am on holiday in a hotel with wireless access in Thailand, but I have left my laptop at home and working off my tablet. My little glitchen doesn't like my attempts at manipulation by on screen keypad :(

I have been trawling the forums to keep up with the latest gossip instead.

Let me know when you find that 12 step program. I am happy to assist in beta testing that one - although I suspect the chance of failure is high.

*Repeat to self: Should be lounging by the pool, should be lounging by the pool, should be lo....*

  • I have played glitch through a hotel wireless access point and in my particular case found that  I I had to sit next to a window with the drapes parted in order to get enough signal.

  • What kind of phone do you have? I've managed to set up tethering that is... not optimal, but lets me run the game. Might be worth checking out!

  • If they are on vacation out of their area tethering would not be an option but a bankruptcy :(  Can't imagine what the roaming charges would be on data transfer let alone calls & texts.
