7/24th End of Beta Party

I have no idea whose idea it was to have the end of test party in such a difficult location. In my opinion, to build community requres open access, and to me this felt more like an invitation event, or who-you-know-gets-you-in type of gathering. Limited access does not bring Glitchens together, rather it feels more like a clique-event rather than a worldwide affair.

Glitch community events needs to be open and accessible to everyone; I should not have to use a summons from other players, or a KEY, or any barrier to open access,  ie. I should be able to directly teleport or mark-the-map to get to the party location.

See ya next test.  :)

Now before you flame me, this isn't personal - I congratule those who organized and worked on the end-test party. I just want to make my feeling known that the end of test parties are for everyone and should be easily accesible, and free of having to coordinate with others to enjoy the fun

  • it was an interesting challenge getting people in.  It made me feel special being able to gain access and help get my friends in--was excited to see people gathering outside the door adding to suspense of what was within.  Was very fun thanks!

  • I kind of agree but, also, anyone waiting at the door was given rides by tons of different users, lol.

  • My favourite line from that party at the end when Goodnight Groddle was playing: "That's stoot singing!"

  • Those who were auctioning 'scripts for 1 C bless you.

  • Sorry! I planned this test, the reason I planned it in this location is because it spawns items randomly, and I thought it would be p erfect for a party because it already set itself up!

Sorry that you didn't g et a summon.  We were outside the door for several hours with a bunch of keys letting groups of p eople in the door, and I left notes advertising when/where the party was.

I actually made like 20 new friends just from all the people who I teleported in an out, but I'm sorry it was inconvenient!

  • There were teleport scripts available for 1 current in the Auction.

Millie announced the scripts pretty often in Global.

  • I loved it!!! It took me a little while to figure it out, but once I did.. AMAZING!!! Thanks for the party Laurali!!!! And thanks, again Laurali, for the mail to remind me!!!

  • Oh and also thanks to Milolin who was selling teleport scripts for 1c!

  • oh my giants, that party was fun! :) i love you glitchlanders, glitches, glitchers, you fabulous folks, you. :)

  • to echo cerulean, if you went to the door, you got let in by people actively taking time to shuttle new players into the realm on a near continuous basis.

i can't think of anything less 'cliquey' than that.

you didn't have to coordinate anything, just get to the front door.

  • Laurali, it wasn't a hassle. It was a perfect choice!! I loved it!

  • Despite the tricky entrance, it was a fun location for a party! I liked all the ladders and levels.

  • +1 Striatic, one of the devs made me handfuls of keys and me and Milolin and several others were outside taking huge groups of people in, so all you had to do was get to the front door.

  • Yes, I boycotted the party, for the reasons stated in my msg.

    Glad folks had fun.

  • just a few minutes before game closed I got the dreaded exclamation mark and when I tried to log back in I got "Missing Plug-in" - anyone else have this?

ETA: I did have fun thank you Laurali and also waited at the door to take people in with me, seemed like there were plenty of helpers :)
Posted 17 months ago by Teena Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I saw that, Vordus :p

Yeah, I announced scripts kinda often, but that's all I spent my time doing. I was creating scripts, auctioning them, summoning, and organizing people so people could get in. I spent maybe 10 min actually *there* at the party <wry smile>

Not that that wasn't a little fun :)

Edit: I didn't know that about stacks of keys at the door. It would have been nice to know that in the invitations.

  • Couldn't get there. Didn't have a key or a summons (although I will say that  I had an offer to get me there)

Instead, I sat at home. Until my doorbell rang...

It's the End of the World as we know it...

    ...and I feel fine.

  • Aww g33kgurrl,sorry you didn't get in!  But, it looks like you had a party of your own if you get what I'm saying ;) ;)

  • I enjoyed it. I think it was confusing at first for some less experienced players but I hope everyone who wanted to get in, got in. :)

On a related note: what was that Ball/blob thing? Did it actually serve a purpose or did the devs put it there to distract us ;P

  • The last two have been behind locked doors...frankly, I'm a bit grateful since the previous two were on major pathways that I was trying to get through, and got bogged down by party goers as I was doing my last minute racing around in the world...I heard there was a lot of cooperation to get folks in/out, and they are sort of like natural party rooms, so not sure what the issue was...besides, there were notes about it in world since Friday, so folks had plenty of time throughout the weekend to go pick up a key prior to the party if they wanted to go...

  • I was out collecting when I finally decided to go to the party. I bought a tp script from Millie and announced where I'd be. I think it worked out well. I took about 6 people in at once.

I actually think having it in a far off location works well. It lets people help others and builds the community more, but who knows? Anyway, anyone else is free to organize another party. :)
Posted 17 months ago by ss Subscriber! | Permalink
  • While I do understand his point, I personally offered to summon @MeherMan, and no doubt other people would have.  He refused, which I think was cutting off his nose to spite his face.  And the key to the location is easy to find and spawns frequently, and I'm sure there were some available on the auction. That doesn't sound so exclusive to me.

I think I summoned at least 5 people at the party, and I sent invites with scripts to all my newbie contacts that I thought might not know about it or needed help getting there.  I don't think that many people who wanted to be there got left out.  And I was not in fact part of the organizing committee.  Isn't that what being part of a community is?

  • Laurali -- He's the geek of a lifetime. Not everyone is so lucky. Party or no - I'd spend every single minute - waking or not - with him.

    Glad y'all had fun.

  • That was a fun party, and a summons was fairly easy to get, thanks to ebil for mine. Just asking in the global chat got one fairly quickly.

Thanks Laurali for a great party

  • No. First I heard about it. Sorry you didn't want to go @Meherman, last two parties were like that. The reason is partly to discourage thieving during the setup. I know I know I spent over an hour collecting and buying ingredients for one of the more complex drink enough to just make 10 of them. They were snapped up in under a minute even though I walked around trying to drop them off in random locations. I was amazed and amused actually. I expected people to pick stuff up :) Just not so darn fast!

  • I had no trouble finding out about the party (global chat) or getting in (waited by door, followed person who had access when they said to follow). It wasn't closed off or clique. I like that it's a bit tricky but not impossible.

  • I was at the door of Vicar's Peak for hours and hours before I got in for last about 10 mins.

I think it's great expose to newbie (even few who are high level) to learn that you can follow someone and "bypass" the locked door with a key or teleport binded. So, Vicar's Peak (and Ajaya Bliss) was a perfect location for the Greatest Party on Ur before end of the world.

Now, I'm up for next a locked street party! :P

  • +1 Laurali and Striatic -

All I heard for about 3 hours before close was people saying "Who needs a teleport?", "Scripts for 1c" and " I have keys!"

I think it was a GREAT location, because like Laurali said, items spawn randomly, and another reason- people couldn't just walk up and take stuff and leave...if they got in, it was more like they earned it and wanted to stay and party!

  • IMHO, with all the script-writing, summoning, shuttling, and key-sharing, this party did more to build community than an ordinary open party would. You were forced to interact to people, whereas normally you could run in, grab some free stuff, and run out without talking to anyone.
Posted 17 months ago by Sheepy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Had tonnes of fun at this party - was easy to get to since I managed to get a key hours before it started, and set up a teleport point to get back in and out for supplies.
Judging by the amount of people there it was fairly easy to get to, thanks to the people creating and distributing keys and teleport scripts!
Still don't know what that random blue ball was though! :)

  • Just how many notes did you write this test, Laurali? Writing all of those announcements, invitations and thank-you notes must have been a ridiculously Herculean task...
Posted 17 months ago by Vordus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Haha!  It really was.  I'm sitting at my apartment, avoiding packing since I move out next week, avoiding the heat (110 degrees!), and writing up a million invites and thank you notes lol!  It was really fun for me though, a big change from the usual grinding, and I lined a few peoples pockets buying ungodly amounts of paper lol.

I think I wrote something over 600 invitations, and probably another 200 thank yous and award notes.  My poor quill hates me.

  • Oh, before I forget I want to mention that Arizoo is the most valuable person for this party because he did provide a taxi service frequently. I was just stand by the door and being an announcer to ensure that everyone know that there is a taxi service coming.

  • To put this into perspective, there will only be a few more End of World parties before we get reset, the game launches and is live 24/7.  It's not like this is a problem we'll see a year from now.

Also, many of the EoTW parties have been held in private residences, which are actually more closed since the owner of the house has to let you into the house you cannot get teleported into someone's house if they dont want to let you in nor can you get a key.  So, in that regard, this party was more open than previous ones.

There were tons of transportation scripts written up for people to get others into Vicar's, many people were shuttling in people with follows on a key or teleport.

This was -- I believe -- the largest party that ever was held in Glitch.  That speaks volumes to its success right there.

I, too, had misgivings about the party being held in a locked street, but it's not like there is no way for someone to enter.  Despite my initial feelings about the locked street (and the rampant 'theft' at the start of the party), this one was actually pretty damn good.  :)

Let's also not forget that these parties are held by players - they are not official, staff doesn't set them, and -- all drama past and present considered -- the EoTW parties generally go off pretty well, this one included.

As for coordinating with others, I don't see a problem with asking for the community to help an individual out.  Saying, "Can I get a TP into the party please" in global or at the door is likely all it takes to get access.  We are a community, and the community comes through more times than it doesn't, which is one of the best things about Glitch.

  • I live in Australia, so end of game was 10am for me. Had a big day out yesterday so slept late, which I dont usually do on EOG day!
I still managed to find the party, have some people follow me in and summon others in, within 15 minutes of waking up!
No idea how many people were there, on my laptop the screen isnt deep enough to be able to see the top of the window because there were so many names!

  • I happened to have a key - random pick-up from the Ancestral Lands - and all I had to do was ask in Global Chat "Where's the door?"

When I got to the door, I could hardly see it for all the people standing in front of it! In fact, I couldn't see the "unlock door" animation at all. So many people! I assume some were waiting to get in, and some were waiting to help people get in.

There were keys all over the floor. And the party was all I heard talk of on Global Chat. Had I been standing outside the door for more than 5 minutes without someone to follow in or give me a script or tell me "1c on auction!", I'm sure I could have gotten help just by asking on Global.

My only problem was the sheer amount of people inside made it hard for my computer to keep up with the data! Many people were just wireframes on my computer and things ran slow. But that seems to just come with the territory.

I dropped off all my excess food and drink, dispersed a mild fecundity powder, and consumed my share of consumables, but I missed out on the purple distribution. ;) Next time!

  • ok having read all the comments - here's mine - this was the first party I have been to - yes it was confusing for me - but then as a newbie there are lots of confusing things for me - but the greatest part of this end of test party - was the amazing camaraderie that went on - I simply hadn't a clue what I was doing but the guy at the door trying to taxi us was great and his helper - Arizxoo and Milolin they were fantastic - the only thing was - when we got there - I didn't know I had got there! - and then I munched on the flower they gave us - maybe did that too soon not sure! anyway it was crazy - but let's face lots of real parties are crazy - at least this was safe! and you could drink what you wanted! just sorry I waited till nearly the end to go - was trying to get my egg goal finished! So to sum up - the only thing these games are really great for is the chat we have and the fun we have playing them and learning tolerance and assitanting others - and oh yes I met up with a friend I hadn't seen in months from Faunasphere whoooo - so thanks for the party - to whoever organised it - "Happy Days" will return! - won't it! ??
