A Brief Inquiry into Coins

This is something I've been wondering about for a little while - why did "quoins" change to "coins"? I thought that "quoins" was charmingly different. Was it a copyright infringement of something else?

  • I wondered that too. As quoins are the blocks that strengthen the corners of buildings, I can't imagine that it could be a copyrighted/trademarked term.

  • (Although these days, it seems any intellectual property is fair game. Keep calm and carry on...)

  • Yeah I knew them for the architectural structure but thought it was a very clever play on phonetics. I don't know though!

  • A coin by any other name is a coin. I personally thought Quoins was dumb. I prefer Shekels over Currants as well.
