Customizable Houses.

Just like IRL, what if we were able to determine the kind of house we wanted in Glitch? I mean, down to almost the most simple details?

What if new plots of land were opened in areas like Kajuu and Alokol, and depending on location certain plots and house "parts" would cost more or less?

What if you could then decide what rooms you wanted in the house, how many plots (from a pre-selected array of choices, of course), how large a trophy case or closet might be, etc.

RANDOM EXAMPLE:

I could buy a plot in Shimla Merch or whatever for 2K. 5K for a plot in Alokol.
In SM, a one-level home could be an additional 3K, or 6K in Alokol. More for additional levels.
Let's say in either place I could choose from a 16-slot storage cabinet, 24-slot, or 32-slot, etc.
In both places, the larger the cabinet, the higher the price, of course. But in Alakol the cabinets could be more expensive, etc. Or maybe not. Maybe it's just the plot and home size that will make the price difference.
And maybe customizable paint color and roof tiling and all sorts of details!

I know this sounds like a total pipe dream and that the devs probably wouldn't have time for something liek this for a really long time, but it just seems like a really cool idea to me... so yeah. :P

  • I think it is a very creative idea.  You might think of posting it under "ideas" so it does not get lost.

  • Cerulean, when I used to "play" one of the earlier version of the Sims, I would basically cheat, get tons of Simoleons and build houses.  To heck with playing god with the little people who would say things like "mmmberwattie" and didn't have the sense to go to the toilet when they really needed to.

Which is to say, yes - I really look forward to this.

  • Sugar Plum, I considered that, but there was once a very lively discussion about how many posts there DO seem to get lost and... I admit I even said I consider that a forum where some threads go to die. I felt I'd get a lot more feedback here. Maybe when the idea is improved upon by the input of my fabulous fellow Glitchen I can post a finalized and refined idea and even credit other contributors, just so that it's more easily accessible.

  • I know that Stoot has mentioned that houses will be customizable in the future - I don't know if that means you have to buy an "off the rack" house and change it up, or if you can build from the ground up as you referenced.

How funny if we could buy a plot and have first, say, a tent on it or a trailer.  Something to live in while we built.  Perhaps we would have to build to a certain point before we could properly "move in" (like getting a certificate of occupancy IRL).  Or perhaps that's just too IRL.  Instant house!  Just the way you want it!  No inconvenience required!

  • Yeah, I knew we'd discussed customizable houses before but from what I remembered the primary customization came from the design aesthetic (e.g wallpaper, color palette, etc.) but not the actual structure and layout of the house.

And I didn't even think about the potential value of building additions or simply rebuilding when coming into more money!

  • Cerulean, I am pretty sure he's mentioned more substantial, structural changes.

But I may just be doing wish-fulfillment or something here.

  • stoot did mention pens as something you'd probably be able to add onto your house later on :)

  • I think I'd gotten the sense that we'd be able to do more structural changes as well, not just palette changes.

Yea, building houses in Sims is my fave thing to do in that game. >.> I always end up with massive mansions and don't bother with the people.

  • LOL oh.

Yay, then. I can't wait, haha. What other things would you all want in your homes? I want a solarium/stargazing room! And a moat. :P

  • I can't find everything I want right now, but this post suggests they are thinking somewhere along the same lines as what you propose.

This quote from stoot, "So, what will we sell? Decorations which you otherwise can't get (both for you and for your home or group hall, probably including "blueprints" for housing styles that are otherwise not available)" holds promise. original post link

Several posts mention that the customization options are a priority after reset. Someday I'll find one of those post again. Sorry, the search function isn't very selective. :(

  • I want a spiral staircase to nowhere - just so I can leap off the top (Glitchen's failure to die or get injured due to falls from high places is something of a special delight for me, who is so afraid of heights I once spent about an hour in the doorway of a hayloft as a child, afraid to make what was probably a 2-foot slide out to the top of the stairs).

ETA - yes, the search function pretty much stinks <insert librarian rant here></end librarian rant>

  • Omg I do remember that thread.

I'm usually pretty handy with searches but I supoose this was an oversight on my part.

I wonder if chandeliers are among the decorations? There's just something about chandeliers I love. Probably why I wander into Forever 21 and stores like it so much. And then I end up buying jewelry there...

  • I suddenly have a strong desire to shop with Cerulean.

  • Ooh, a moat... :D

I'd like a pen and maybe one pot to grow herbs in one at a time. And maybe add a room or two. At least that's probably all I'd do to my house that I currently have. I love my house.

I'd love to see houses put in the area, or at least with the color palette of, Ilmenskie Deeps. I might (MIGHT) be willing to give up my veggie garden for that if it were like the bog homes with lots of rooms and levels. Or it might be awesome to have a cave-like housing there that is kinda like the homes that are a cave with an outdoor plot area (some in Heights and I think some newer ones elsewhere with a pen). It'd be really hard to live without a veggie garden though what with cooking. I suppose I could buy the tomatoes...

  • This is a great idea. Every economy needs a money sink, or the price of everything inflates with time. Houses are a good place to drain the excess money away. Building new streets is the current money sink, but how long will building new streets go on? Is there a practical limit to new streets?

Also, it would be nice if you could add additional functions to you house, like a machine room for engineers, or a chicken coop that helps organize & squeeze your chickens, butterfly house, or an actual pig-pen, so you can see and select all your piggies (after 20+ piggies, it gets difficult to sort through all of them to get your nibble on). Like tree's, houses can be limited on the number of sub-structures you can build.

For example, you build a pig pen using engineering(?), it can hold 15(?) piggies, you can add a feeder and a meet collector for people who have remote herd keeping. Maybe add a "plop" collector/compost heap. To interact with the pigs, you select the pen and all of the piggies are available to interact with individually. Later, you upgrade the structure to the next level (higher level engineering?) so it can hold a larger herd.

Butterfly's: House, nectar/honey/flower dispenser(?) to feed butterfly, milk collector, and an orchestra function to get them all to sing together.... 8)

Structures like this will also reduce the lag at houses with large herds.
