I like having a sound for that, b/c I often switch away while my pathetic little computer is trying to load a new street and like to know when it's ready. But toggling or having a different sound would be cool with me.
Yeah. Not so jazzed about the chirping. I'd like to keep hearing everything else, though! So I will deal with the chirping. But if there was a way to turn it off...that would be ace. Or maybe...Heeey! Why don't you substitute the Wilhelm Scream for the chirp! (I kid, I kid!!)
It doesn't bother me, but it's not very... you know, travel-y? The first few times I heard it, I thought it was an incoming message or something. It took me a minute to figure out where it was coming from (unlike the teleport sound, which was obvious right away).
I'm not a fan of the sound either. There's something about it that's alarming or irritating. Maybe something more like a "swish/slide" and less like a "bark/yelp" would be more appropriate.
Super annoying after the first few times. I don't have a good suggestion for an alternative, however. Fnibbit makes a good point about the usefulness of an alert when a slow-loading street has finally arrived.
As someone with sensitive ears, the chat ding is realllllllllllllllllly annoying... makes me not have chat open at all, which makes my hermity side come out more than it might.
At least the "you've arrived" ding has some context in relation to what you're doing, but it is annoying.
I had a thread about the chat noise before where someone said that had no plans to give us control over particular noises.
Didn't notice cause sound was off… but I think will be good for me. That means when modem refuses to cooperate, I can type my fanfics in peace without checking back every few seconds.
I also found it a bit annoying. I was so intent on keeping lists and checking them that I would completely forget about that chirp until I entered a new locations and then I would spend a couple secs. trying to figure out what it was.
annoying because at first i didn't always notice it on EVERY street change, so I thought the ring meant something important was going on (first time on a street, something/someone was on the street, etc)
the sound should be used for an alert, not such a regular event
I don't like it at all. I understand its purpose, and it would definitely be useful on a slower computer, but for those of us who can load streets quickly it is completely unnecessary. Please let us disable it!
I have to agree with the annoying group myself. I just is not a pleasent sound, and I don't
see a need for it. An option to turn it off would be great.
I also turned off my sound because of it. At first I thought it was when a Glitch employee was typing in chat, but then I figured out it only happened when I zoned.
I'm fine with the chirp sound, don't mind changing it to some other sound or making it optional, but I definitely like that I can be alerted to a fully loaded street when I'm doing something else in some other window.
Sorry, I have to agree that this is annoying after the first three times. Please do away with it as it seems pointless. I know when I have arrived somewhere - because I am there!
Also discussed today: we'll get rid of the "new chat message in an existing chat pane" sound. So, that will make people happy. But, we'll make a new/better/more noticable sound for when a new IM window opens with the first message someone sends to you (since those are harder to notice for most people).
I would love to hear a musical sound when entering a new street instead of the annoying one we have now. Thanks, devs, for working so hard on our game, I'm loving it!!!! A bit frazzled right now as a newb, but we'll get there!!! Did it before, can do it again!!
