Key ring changes

1) Let people choose whether or not to keep their cabinets, trees, and/or garden plots locked, either across the board or on a per-friend basis.  Meat and milk collectors, pig feeders, and animals should be lockable, too.

2)  For each key, show whether or not the friend is home or logged in.

  • I like this idea, well at least the 1st one.  I don't think I need the 2nd one.  Why would you need that? ~O.o~

But the first one absolutely.  For now I just won't be adding people who I don't want messing with those things.  ^_^

  • An example: my friend uses his blockmaker and fuelmaker a lot, but says I'm free to use them whenever he's not home.  Currently, I'd have to find him in my friends list, and then IM him about it or look at his location; if he's in an "unknown location," he could be home, but could also be in an unmapped street.

Another example: a friend buys a house and gives keys to some mutual friends.  The home is empty, so we decide to decorate as a surprise.  If we go while she's logged in, the surprise is ruined, since she is notified each time we enter the house.  Glancing at her status in the key ring is easier than finding her name in our friends lists, since the lists are long and take a long time to scroll through.

  • glum, don't you get a notification if any of your friends log in? And I think it's easier to see the list of people on the Glitch home page anyway? Just a thought :p

  • Yes to being able to lock and unlock the animal pens (with collectors inside), trees, cabinets and garden patch balconies (and similar items in other housing).

I feel bad not being 100% enthusiastic about the new keys, because they are awesome and were done as a kindness to respond to player requests. However, I doubt I will use the keys very much because I want my hoards in my cabinet / on my floor / in my yard, my animals and my crops to be left alone, and want the freedom to drop stuff off in my own house without worrying that any of it will not be there when I come back home. This is not so much concern about dishonesty as it is concern that someone might have different ideas about what is and is not OK to interact with when in someone's / my home, and might innocently and without bad intent do something that will cause me inconvenience or irritation.

  • I want to get rid of the keyring completely. I have no use for it and don't even like looking at it. The icon is right next to the slot that I keep empty for drops, so I end up looking at it every few seconds and haven't used it once. And I don't expect to ever use it: why would I go in someone else's house? It's boring inside of houses. And why would I let someone inside of my house? To feed my cartoon pigs while I am on vacation? No, I'm happy to let them turn into meat, or I can set them free if I feel bad about it.

So, I'd like a preference to remove the icon, or to relocate it to a spot where it can be ignored, like up where the volume and bug icons are.

If it could hold keys to seam streets then at least it would be useful (freeing up inventory slots), and it would make sense down in the inventory area, but even there I don't need the icon to be so large and ugly.

At the very least the "Keyring" label should go away. Yes it's a picture of a keyring. Why do you have to tell me that 100X per day?

  • When you have played for a while and have hundreds of friends on your list, you end up ignoring that "someone just logged in" sound.  It also takes a long time to scroll through them all.

Lorelei, I agree!  I haven't given out any keys because my house is too full of stuff.

  • So, I thought about it some more, and I might use this feature after all. If I set up a few alts and send them some bureaucratic papers and cash, I can have multiple houses...

But yeah otherwise I still think it's too prominent for how often it will be used. If I could put it down, or move it to a different spot, that would be nice.

I would also add... let me refuse a key. I'm really not all that comfortable having keys to people's houses without reason or purpose. I would really like to have the option to turn it down. Bonus: if I could return it once I was done with it (say, for helping someone move or whatever).
