New Anti-aliased game-screen text

Am I the only one who is really unhappy with the new text rendering in speech bubbles? I find it very hard to read, as it is just fuzzy for me. The QQ announcement and "subtitly" stuff suffers too.

The text in this game was entirely and pleasantly legible before. I have no idea why this change happened.

  • +1 yeah, I see the same thing (Mac/Safari)

  • You can even see the degradation of text quality in the snaps. I, too, am using Safari (5.1.7) on Mac.

  • The difference you are seeing is the difference between embedded and system fonts in Flash. We had to change it to accommodate a broader range of non-Western characters. I don't especially like it either, but there's nothing we can do about it :)

Strange though — Pascale, looking at your latest snap … you really find the text in that speech bubble difficult to read? I didn't like the change b/c it make things a little bolder and sharper but the legibility is the same.

  • Stoot, perhaps Pascale is seeing the same kind of text that I am (which is infinitely harder to read, especially in snaps with certain filters applied)?

  • @Stoot I think the text looks better when it is shown at 1:1 in a big snap. It does much worse in the actual game window.

  • Thanks foolbunny.

And, aha — are you zoomed most of the time Pascale?

  • I can't speak for Pascale, but I generally play zoomed in all the way and I too find the new writing quite difficult to read.  This snap from the party yesterday is typical.  Even at full resolution it looks grainy to me.

  • Mostly I'm zoomed all the way in. (When I'm zoomed out the text is just too small, period, but that's fine—that's always been the case.) The problem is worse on my Air than on my iMac, but just barely.
