Beanieo, when I do a search on that word in "google.com", this is what I get:
"Showing results for beanie. Search instead for beanieo."
Followed by a bunch of beanie stuff. Then, I have to click on the beanieo link
to see more on that specific word. When I do that, I don't see much of interest. If
you want to find a word so unique that google doesn't even recognize it, then
that's something else... maybe squeleedee? Yep, no results on that :).
I recognized his patterns from chat rooms. I've been in them. I also looked at his profile as I wrote this. He plays a first-person-shooter game where an even more abbreviated style is necessary. :) Text flies by so rapidly that many people simply don't have the chance to think things through as well as they would otherwise. It also creates that abbreviated grammar. Same with phone texting. This is just fine in those channels but projects a bad image here. I haven't met (so far) any person in this game or on these forums who is genuinely illiterate or of low intelligence. And I expect the same applies to him.
@Beanieo was being asked about his native language. I suspected that he might feel bad about that one and I tried to let him know where it was coming from and how to avoid more of it. I know when I saw him being asked about that I felt really bad for the guy. And it wasn't the first time that same person complained about his writing habits.
I made a guess that he was a sweet young man who is just getting going in life and want to encourage good habits where it's appropriate. I don't think anyone is trying to put him down. I've done adult tutoring with people who were probably much older than he likely is and I have found you have to directly confront people with such bad habits. You don't want to see an ass but you know you're being more of a jerk not letting people know what they are doing is potentially hurting them.
So you are looking for a name that is not in use on the rest of the entire internet. Is that correct?
That is of course hard. The enter net is a fairly large place. You basically just have to keep typing in sequences of letters that are pleasing to you until you find a set that works (return no results).
+1 to Beanieo. It's nobody's damn business if you have Aspergers or what class you're in at school. Please don't let people bully you.
Minus a billion to the bullies. I just wrote a blog post about (among other things) how inviting and loving the community is at Glitch. Apparently that's only if you write and act the same as everyone else. :(
LOL. I just got nailed on my on grammar. :) Love it.
All the other replies appeared while I was still typing my last one and I find it pointless to try to edit my last post.
Glad to know about the Asperger's (did I spell that right?) there. Explains a lot. (notice my run really crappy paragraph structure here?). Means you are alright in my book. To even get into this game means a lot about your mental ability, IMHO. :D
Oh. And I Googled "Fokian". Thanks for that inspiration, @Beanieo
@Heyoheya - Gosh, I hope I'm not included among the bullies! I felt the OP was getting picked on unfairly and tried to come with something constructively supportive. Except for a couple of rare occasions (I've been seriously ill and a little more sensitive than normal), I usually overlook bad grammar and spelling except where I have a few "pet peeves" (I can't stand the misuse of "sight" when the person means "site" for example). I know I make my own fair share of spelling/grammar mistakes and LIKE them pointed out to me. It helps me to avoid it in the future.
Beanieo, you can change your on this account. It only cost 100 currants. (But you can't change it again for two months.) Just find a name that works for YOU. It really isn't important how anyone else feels (as long as it isn't offensive).
Hey, @Beanieo, did you know you can change your name without having to use another account? Costs you a few currants, but not many. I'm not sure if you can do it with the server down right now, but it will prevent any problems the company running this game may have with you using multiple accounts. I think it might be under "Profile".
Beanieo, please just change your name in your current account rather than starting a whole new one. If you do start a new one, though, please send me a friend request so I can remain your friend.
Also, I would recommend not being too quick on this--sit on the new name for at least a day before changing it to make sure you don't change your mind.
I agree with Shepherd. If you start a new account you have to start all over at level 1. It is better to just change your current name. It only costs 100 play money. Go to "Account" in upper right corner of your home page. Character name change is easy peasy. For what it's worth, I like your name, but if you change it I vote for Zobquet---very cool.
When I was a younger lass, I was active in internet gaming in the great-grandparents of games like Glitch -- MUDs. The vast majority of other players were university students or faculty, and for the most part it was a well-spoken and well-educated group of people. They expected a certain level of communication skills. In a game that was entirely text-based, this was not unreasonable. However, like Beanieo does now, I too rarely bothered with capitalization and punctuation. You might think that I was ostracized or treated poorly for this. Instead, people were very gently supportive and only occasionally nudged me toward clarity, never lecturing or admonishing. Any time I find myself getting annoyed at someone doing similar things, I remember that, and I remember what it took for me to transform from a socially awkward teenager who wrote poorly to the socially awkward but occasionally eloquent adult I am today.
Beanieo, if you ever need any help with anything, please let me know. I also have Asperger's, and I would be happy to help you understand the social expectations here if you want to know them.
Beanieo, I like your name as it is. I do like Zobquet as well, but I also think you've made a good choice to keep your same account. And you can always change your name later... I've thought about doing so myself, but so many people know me as Jenny now that I don't know if I should! (Sorry if I'm going on about something you've already made up your mind about...)
Proper spelling, punctuation and capitalization does make it easier for others to read your posts, though, particularly for people with vision impairments. Lots of people rely on the variation in the patterns of properly-formatted text for readability and comprehension, and you might even get more responses if you give a few capital letters a try. ;) I know it can be hard to be patient, (OMG nobody likes my street festivals post in Ideas!) but rest assured that we'll respond as often as we can!
