Benefits of Subscription?

I was just looking over the subscription price points, and I have a couple of questions.

What can you buy with your credits besides clothing for your avatar and teleport tokens?

What is a Glitch referendum, and what kind of things are voted on? (Never mind on this one - reading the fine print explained it ) ^__^

Will there be credit-purchase-only items once the new housing takes effect? (I realize this can only be answered by staff, but wanted to ask, anyway)

All auctions are done via in-game currency, correct?  No need to use credits for auctions?

I'm trying to figure out what I'd use all those credits on if I became a subscriber... One can only purchase so many pieces of apparel ;)

Ah, and another question.  What happens to all of your subscriber-only items if you cancel your subscription?  Are they taken away?

  • Actually, one of the benefits of Subscription was SUPPOSED to be the voting system.

    Right?

When there are changes in the game proposed, people who have paid subscriptions are supposed to have some say, in the form of voting.  You're not supposed to all be spinning your wheels in the forums trying to guess what the game will be like 60 days from now.

How's that working out with everyone?  Me, I requested my $90 Molybdenum Subscription refund when the refund program was announced.  Boy am I glad that I did!

  • Those votes were intended for after the game was launched, not during beta stages (in this case, the second round of beta) in which they're doing fundamental changes to the game mechanics. It was never stated that they'd be used for every single change in the game, either (I'm pretty sure they stated the opposite).

How's it working out for me? It's working great. I have no desire for a refund and do not feel as though I spent the money unwisely; I get what I want out of this game and trust in the direction it's going. I didn't care about the votes when I got the subscription, though I think it will be interesting when I can use them.

  • "You might not want to donate to the game, but criticising the people that do (and thus support your free play) is pretty sad and ungrateful."

I never criticized the people who "donate" and to suggest otherwise (by including a partial quote in your post) is rude and uncalled for. Also, I don't play for free. See that little heart by my name? I merely stated that if this game is to be financially sustainable, TS will need to provide a product that gives people good value for the money they spend. I didn't even place judgment on whether or not the things that can be purchased for cash DO or DO NOT currently provide good value.

What I truly find interesting in your post is the fact that you use the word "donate." To me, that says that you do not believe the current subscriptions give you your money's worth. If you did, you would have used the word "purchase."

  • Little Miss Giggles, you seem to forget that the game WAS launched before it was unlaunched. But you're right, they never said that we'd get to vote on every single change in the game. However, as value for money paid, so far no one has received any voting value with their subscriptions.

It would be nice, though, for the voting system to be implemented for at least one single little change in the game.
    Keep paying.  Somebody has to.

There's a little danger that when voting DOES get implemented, the "I'm gonna keep paying no matter what" crowd will have accumulated so many past due votes that it won't matter what anybody else thinks.  The True Believers, who as far as I can tell use the game as a huge chat room/party centre, will rule the day.  That's okay, because everybody knows there can never be enough chat rooms on the Internet.

Or, it could be saying that the game can be played for free, so this player sees subscribing as a way of showing gratitude, like a donation.

  • If you show enough 'gratitude' you'll probably be given a SB-1 block, even.

  • You obviously have a lot of feelings on this subject, Kalstept.

It sounds to me like you're distraught that people don't play the way you play. I'm not one of your ~True Believers~, but honestly, when you're at level 60 and have gotten all the items, badges, and achievements you care to, what else is there to do beyond throw parties and talk to others?

  • I'm here to play a game, and I think Glitch is being developed to be a game, not a chat room! So don't worry too much about it Kal. TS is never going to let the players make any sort of decision that will make the game into anything other than a game :) And they're working, right now as we speak I'd guess, to add depth to the game :)

  • There are no benefits as this game is in BETA, and everything we know and love is being changed and/or deleted.

  • I play.. I love the game.. I don't regret my Moly one bit (which I never considered to be a "donation")..  Sometimes, in matters of finance I find it personally useful to measure things in the equivalent cost of fast food meals.. ummm lesseee.. my sub amounts to +/- 1 ffm per month / per year.. fwtw.  Glad I spent it on TS :)  Ok, well.. that's 2 ffm's p/month - straight up no discount.  I'm ok with that. Do we have horses now?

  • Little Miss Giggles, you seem to forget that the game WAS launched before it was unlaunched.

I don't think I did, as I pointed out in my post that this was the second beta. They were also up front about not having the voting system ready to go when they launched. Should they have had it ready? Perhaps. They had a lot on their plate getting things smoothed out with the launch though.

Kalstept, I never stated that I would keep paying forever or that I will always feel like I am getting what I want for the money. But at the moment, I've paid for one subscription that has a while before it is over, and I do not regret it or feel like I'm not getting my money's worth from the game.

And I suppose I don't fall into your definition of "True Believers" as I rarely chat with anyone or go to parties when I play.

  • When you purchase a subscription, you also support a company that is working very hard to create a game that you love. -- Addi Bee~♥

  • Audaria - my post had a whole bunch of quotes with my responses to each directly underneath it. I don't know why you would assume my reply to someone else's point referred to you (as you point out, it makes no sense as applied to you), but I do apologize if that wasn't clear.

"What I truly find interesting in your post is the fact that you use the word "donate." To me, that says that you do not believe the current subscriptions give you your money's worth. If you did, you would have used the word "purchase." "

My 'donate' comments were specifically replying on the subject of people who give money NOT in exchange for anything, but because they want to support the game. That is what I called a donation.

There are, of course, also subscribers who give money to get things they want (outfits and teleport tokens), and I would not call that money a 'donation' ('purchase' would be a good term), but I wasn't talking about those people (and neither was the person I was replying to).

I was not making any statement either way about whether subscriptions give you 'your money's worth'.

  • "Yes, as Oscarette says you can definitely use credits to buy TP tokens. I do it all the time as I don't change my clothes "

Great! How do I do that? Or, more importantly, how do I change my 282 TP tokens to credits?
Posted 10 months ago by Audaria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Audaria
TP tokens can't be converted into credits, but credits can be converted into TP tokens:

Click on "# credits" at the top right of any glitch.com page other than the game. (where # is the number of credits you have)
Go to the "Teleportation Tokens" tab.
    Click "Purchase Tokens".
Enter the number of tokens you want (each one costs 2 credits), and click "Purchase Tokens".

(or use this link to get to the same page: www.glitch.com/tokens)

  • It doesn't work both ways.  On the other hand if you don't want TP tokens, you can make imbued scripts for your friends, where you cannot give away credits or credit-purchased items - so one way or another, you can divest yourself of unwanted subscriber perks.

  • Thanks for the info. I wish there was a way to actually make use of what I pay for, rather than divest myself of them. My friends are in the same boat as me - they don't need TP tokens either.
