honest opinion

hi, I'm giving you my honest opinion since you kindly allowed me to try your game for free.
I'm afraid i don't really like it, I find it boring and very much like many facebook games.
I like to have story and adventure in games that I play.
I don't know if it's feasible to add those kinds of things to your game, but if most people are happy how it is, then please don't change it and ruin a good thing.
thanks, bye!

  • Wait. You're level 1. You dont have any skills, and haven't really done anything. Maybe if you gave it more then a few minutes, you may come to like it...maybe not. It's up to you if you give it a chance or not. Bye.

  • Have we been playing the same game? I'm still enjoying the little clues to the story that pop up now and again, and as for adventure what's with the rook wars? Was it them that started it, or are they just reacting to our getting through their defenses and murdering their babies in the egg.

  • Thank you for being honest.

It's hard to tell based on level since we just reset but I usually suggest people play a bit longer to see how the game changes as you level up.

That said, no single game, no single experience can be for everyone. If it's not for you, no one will be offended. :)

And I'm hoping that others in the game will understand this and be kind in their comments.

  • Only level 1, and it's boring. Geesh, way to give it good try. Not.

  • You haven't left the tutorial yet. Once you do, you'll be in a much bigger world with lots of players doing creative things, and it'll be much more fun!

  • I thought it was pretty polite, but the way they're only level one does lead one to assume that they're just pretending to have played, or perhaps they are another account's alt trying to spook devs or something.  Either way, pretty useless..!

  • Thank you for sharing your opinion. The best part is you not only got to try it for free but you can still keep playing in perpetuity for free as well, should you decide to see what all the fuss is about.

You should share with the rest of us; you've stated that you like games with story and adventure. What games do you like? Is there something out there that meets your specific criteria that is free to play? Just as a comparison to see what Glitch is missing for you.

  • (As to level, benefit of the doubt that you played pre-reset)
Totally fair. It is not a game for everyone. For which I am very grateful.

  • I can imagine very well, that you find that game boring, if you are not into those sweet little glitches, the hens, piggies and butterflies, the lovely coloured and mega-creative landscapes, into fruits, sparkling rocks, yoga-frogs, naughty jujus, funny and intelligent words every there and here, stunningly freaky music, cubimal-collections, virtual surprises and sensual delights everywhere you go....

If you aren't at least a bit childish, you'll probably find it boring.  Otherwise you'd love it from the first glance.

But, as Lord Bacon-o said, noone will hold you, if you don't love it.

  • The level question aside -- and maybe I've just never been in the right part of the forums -- I don't think I've read a thread from someone who just plain disliked glitch before. I get the impression that anyone who's stuck around to post on the forums likes the game to at least some degree.

So chiming in with Malo. If you check back to this thread at some point, what sorts of games do you really find exciting? There's the good chance that glitch just isn't the game for you, but I think having the comparison could give a suggestion of how glitch could appeal to players who aren't instantly wowed, without "ruining a good thing" for everyone who loves it.

  • I think the fact this person compared it to facebook games shows right off it was a troll, and not to be taken seriously. It's a waste of time to ask it it's opinion, or to be to try and be gentle with it.

Good riddance to a troll. It's just too bad an invite was wasted on it.
Posted 15 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Maybe I'm too easy-going, but it doesn't smack of troll to me. It smacks of "pretty weird" because of the level and the fact that this person even got on the forums to start a thread, but it's a really mild post. I'd expect a troll to say something more geared towards inciting a negative response.

Or it's just a very bad troll. That's an option too I suppose.
Posted 15 months ago by Haiku Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Assuming someone is a troll because they state this is too much like FB games seems a bit over the top and judgmental to me.

Could the OP be a troll? Perhaps. But if not, that type of judgment shuts people out, is exclusionary and doesn't foster the type of support and openness that we have had through the testing phase.

Discounting opinions presented when they could be genuine opinions/feelings about the game is really disappointing.

  • I would also like to hear more of a critique from interpolation, though if they stopped in the start street I'm guessing we may never hear back.

  • Judging from their twitter account I'd have reservations at labeling them as a troll.

    Just my two pesos worth.

  • This reminds me of that time I ran across a Tumblrer that said he had tried the game for 5 minutes and hated it. So I told him everything that was flawed about his stupid argument. :p

  • Can't please everybody all of the time. This is a world of allsorts of people and there will people out there for who Glitch just isn't their thing. Hard to imagine I know. But then I can't imagine why people don't like all the other things I like, or why some of them go out and do awful things I'd never dream of. Doesn't make them a troll.
let's spend time playing instead of wondering - that's my plan - I'm off to do some Glitching!

  • you know, sometimes i don't have to play a game for more than five minutes to know i will hate it.

sometimes there are tells as soon as i come into it.

  • the tutorial for this game is awful.

    it SCREAMS Farmville.

seriously, introducing the game with a wall of text, a sorta kinda interesting but not super dramatic walk out of "neuron land" and into a world of petting pigs and harvesting trees?

some people are going to wish they had stayed in neuron land, instead of egressing into farmville.

the game has a lot going for it, but the tutorial puts forward a strong, strong image of "boring Facebook farming game".
Posted 15 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • For those who were wondering, OP doesn't have any of the beta achievements - not even Ascended - so if the OP played in beta, it had to be with a different glitch.
Posted 15 months ago by jumpuphigh Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Or they never logged into the world after reset.

  • Some of you should really get used to this sort of thing, because intelligence-wise the average current Glitch player is about a standard deviation or two ahead of the average person who plays it after launch. Knee-jerk evaluations from people fresh out of the tutorial will be the norm, not the exception.

  • I wouldn't take it personally. Someone looking for a first person shooter or engagement on the level of World of Warcraft (which I've never played) or Everquest 2 (which I played for several years) is going to be disappointed.
Posted 15 months ago by BarryW Subscriber! | Permalink
  • maybe this should be a new thread, but I'll leave it in context for now - a few people mentioned the tutorial: How could it be improved.

Having been through it again recently (!) it reinforced my first impressions that the game is a bit naive. Once you get into it you pick up alot more humour, but to start off it isn't really there.
On the other hand there's alot of 'skills' to acquire at this point so perhaps that restricts things - these skills seem mostly straightforward once you've worked out the format. At what point do players start to alter their opinion and see something in the game?

p.s. I hated farmville and I'm not sure this game compares well against it, but I assume you mean the repetitive tasks aspect?

  • some people will get Glitch & some won't. its not for everyone, and that's a GOOD thing!
Posted 15 months ago by onelittlebird Subscriber! | Permalink
  • There are stories and adventure but even those might not appeal to you.  You would probably have to play a bit longer to discover these and some secrets.  Glitch, like many other games, also has a side which you create for yourself.  You are given many tools with which to do this so that even when play gets a little slow you can still make fun all by yourself or with some friends.

It can be a little boring or frustrating at first for some people.  For some, it will never be enjoyable.  I am glad that you came and tried it.  I am sorry that you did not like it but maybe you will find something that you enjoy at least half as much as I enjoy playing Glitch.  I wish you Joy!

  • I don't think it's trolling to compare the game to a FB game - it was one of my concerns when I first started playing, that despite its attractiveness it would become a tedious drudge a la Farmville.  Fortunately, however, my fears were easily allayed by the sparkiness of the writing and *strange things* happening seemingly out of the blue.  If it does become tiresome at any point I'm not going to complain, I've already had a lot of fun.

As many others have said, this won't be a game for everyone, and I don't think there's a problem with that.

  • Striatic and Twoodle made some interesting points about the tutorial. It could turn off some people who would otherwise find the game engaging.
Posted 15 months ago by Becky Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The base tutorial takes about three minutes. Most folks with that short an attention span wouldn't be suited to Glitch anyhow.
Posted 15 months ago by Spong Subscriber! | Permalink
  • How is Glitch like a facebook game? It is hardly a facebook game. I'm sorry but you're only level 1 and you haven't completed the tutorial. Complete the tutorial and have a look around. You'll find that the game is very interesting. Nothing like those boring facebook games. Also if you've had a look around and still don't like it, that's fine. ;)
Posted 15 months ago by daniel5457 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • it isn't the length of time the tutorial take to complete .. it is how it signals the type of game Glitch is and aspires to be.

yeah yeah you can knock people for low attention spans but Glitch is a *Video Game* and people don't owe it any patience.

it's got to grab them, not the other way around.
Posted 15 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • First, we decided in the very beginning we wanted Glitch to be "strongly flavored" which means that some people will love it and some people will hate it (as long as not too many are indifferent, we're golden). So, some people just won't like it and that's totally fine (as Cindy Electronium and others have said, it won't be for everyone and that's fine).

Second, as Striatic points out, the tutorial really does give the wrong impression (we started working on a new version of it after an eye-opening (and a bit alarming!) live test session with a brand new player a few weeks ago — new version coming soon).

I bet even interpolation (the original poster) might like the game in about two years ;)

  • Honestly, when I first played this game, I thought that it was really boring, planting trees, hurting pigs, etc. And then I got banned from spiral knights... lol, so I started to play this game (being the only free mmo available). It's not so bad, although I would like some sort of more action here and there.
Posted 15 months ago by Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • you mean like bow-chicka-bow-wow action?! i'm shocked!! :)
Posted 15 months ago by emdot Subscriber! | Permalink
  • oh... I get a lot :)I"m talking about THIS.

  • I'd like more story and adventure, too. Mostly because I love Glitch and spend all my time here, so I want it to satisfy all my gaming needs. Not a reasonable expectation, I know, but as long as we're on the topic... There is such juicy flavor here, with the backstory and the personality of the game, but it's a little frustrating, like I can almost grasp something that will engage me on that story/adventure/creativity level but it's just out of reach. The more adventurous quests are fun, but feel disconnected from the overarching story. I am operating on the assumption that this part of the game is going to get richer over time, but I want to put in my vote for having things go in that direction eventually!
