Towers As Shops!

So I was poking around the Gregarious Grange towers today. I miss having the towers and apartment buildings as homes. Anyway, I think it'd be neat, if someone doesn't want to build a tower, or if they don't have the skills yet to make stuff or the currants to buy the supplies, they could rent what used to be apartments, and put SDB's there and make it a shop. I think it'd be cool to have these mini malls. Also would give us a new reason to head out onto streets again. I love spending time outside home streets, but there's almost no reason to head out there anymore...we need new street things!!

  • We Have the Auction House, The Trade Channel as well as the Home Towers.(edit: and MarketPlace Forum) Do we need yet more sales outlets?

I'm very concerned that everyone is trying to sell. Very few are left to buy. Hopefully we'll have new Glitch soon, which might ease the current glut and supply customers to all these shops

  • When vendors leave there'll need to be lots of sellers, I think.

I like the "mini malls" in the towers idea Marie.

  • We also have a Marketplace Forum, which is another way those without towers can sell to all of Glitch.

Some members of the co-op joined because they didn't want to build their own towers. Even if group halls don't allow selling, there are plenty of Glitchen who are willing to give someone a floor or two in their tower and let them sell that way.

  • My idea is to move people away from interacting a) off site (the API tools) and b) get people out into Ur.

I am always always always surprised now when I see people on streets outside of home streets. It almost seems pointless. We can get all our resources from home streets right? So why even bother having all of Ur?

It's getting stagnant. The upgrades to housing, towers, iMG, etc are great but it's the same people, all higher levels, most have the skills they need to make the game easier. This is one way I think that would encourage people to interact a bit more IN GAME.

  • I don't understand why you want to move people away from the API tools.  The only thing that has made Towers workable as a  market have been the 3rd party sites that display the full range of sellers.  I've visited more new streets because of those sites, since otherwise I'd never know who actually had the items I'm looking for in the quantities and pricing that I want.

I've met shop owners and had conversations, in-game, that I'd never have had at a vendor or gathering cherries on an Ur street.  I've met even more people who come to investigate the Very Vegan Cafe and the Coop tower.  Those conversations have been extremely interesting.  So, for me, the towers have enhanced my in-game interactions.

Remember also, that we are interacting with players who already had huge amounts of iMG from their XP points. For the most part, they had all the skills as well.   The dynamic will be very different when people can't do everything immediately.  Until then, of course its the same but from what I can tell, we've got more people now than we had during the first beta.  Stagnation will go away when invites are opened again.

Have you forgotten shrines, quoins, foxes, sloths, the Ancestral Lands and the new Quoin Lands? More regions are coming too. Then there is also Ghost and DNA hunting. There are some Quests that can only be completed in Ur (The Unbearable Lightness of Bean springs to mind), and some Quests are better and more easily achieved in Ur.

There are lots of reasons to still visit the world if you want to, even if you prefer to gather resources on the Home Streets. Although I know many people who  dislike the Home Streets  and still prefer to gather in Ur.

If a Glitch chooses to stay in the Home Streets that must because they like it and don't want to explore Ur. That's not the way I want to play but it is their choice. That's what's good about Glitch, we can all play our own game

I'm sure much of the stagnation you perceive will be cured when we open to new players again.

PS Although the stuff we buy at vendors is going to go through a phased reduction I doubt they will go completely, otherwise the Summer's Day Quest from Vendors would not have been implemented. TS staff (possibly even Stoot himself) said it was the first of the Vendor Quests, so more are coming

  • I was referring to resources you can mine - trees, rocks, etc. And most of the people currently playing, only venture off home streets to go to a shrine, brush foxes, feed sloths, or get completist badges.

I'm saying 90% of people currently playing, don't have much of a reason to venture off their home streets and when we do, it's for a very specific reason for the most part (or at least that's been my experience with ones I've talked to/interacted with) and I have noticed an increase in seeing people in Sloth and Fox lands since towers came about, probably to get snails and fiber to help build.

I do think opening to new players will help, but I also thought this would be a fun idea. In some ways, I'd almost prefer it to the towers although I also really like having my tower. It's not likely that it'll happen I guess, but I still thought it would be a fun new use for the towers and apartments left standing with the home switch.
