Happy crabs without using special musicblocks. Drinking Crabato Juice gives double the rewards for playing blocks!

First of all, I'd like to thank the people who have Musicblock SB-1 for going around and playing them to crabs because without them doing that, making the crab happy was nearly impossible for everyone else prior to that block being played.

So, thanks to the holders of SB-1, I've been able to make all six crabs happy in less than two (real time) weeks without using SB-1 or GNG! Although I do have GNG, it's usually not the best block to play for the crab, so I only play whatever normal blocks, that anyone can get, that I have on me. I've had a total of 21 happy crabs so far and made the final crab (meaning all six of them) happy on the 24th of December.

I didn't crop the screenshots so you could see my username and the different Glitch dates at the top.

December 12: Hechey Track with BB-2; this got me the "Make a Crab Happy" badge - I was so excited to finally get this! :D:D imgur.com/m9dGp
December 13: Hechey Track with DG-4; no screenshot because I wasn't expecting to make it happy so soon after getting the badge
December 13: Karpal Tunnel with DB-1 imgur.com/Tuf13
December 14: Karpal Tunnel with DB-4 imgur.com/5n6Io
December 15: Hechey Track with DB-1 imgur.com/X1yEJ
December 18: Oktyabrya with DR-1  imgur.com/HXaQ4 - after this one, I made it sort of a goal to make the last three happy, but I still play blocks for all of them for the currants and xp
December 19: Uplands Verge with DR-3 imgur.com/uXl2P
December 20: Baby Steppes with DR-4 imgur.com/lhbvT
December 24: Scribe's Weald with DG-3 imgur.com/27Doy
December 29: Hechey Track with XS-4 imgur.com/Neo2L
January 2: Scribe's Weald with DR-1 and Crabato Juice bonus imgur.com/goIz1
January 2: Karpal Tunnel with DR-1 and Crabato Juice bonus imgur.com/ZAEOp (same game day as above)
January 4: Uplands Verge with DG-2
+ 8 more crabs not listed here with the last crab being made happy on February 7th

I'll probably continue to play blocks for the crab because I like the possibility of a full energy and mood refill for making it happy, but it's still also nice to get currants and xp. :)

Thanks to Codex for the tip about crabato juice. Apparently, drinking some and having the "Crab State of Mind" buff while playing a block to the crab gives you double the amount of currants and xp than usual. Making the crab mad (playing a musicblock it just heard) while the buff is active will result in a loss of 20 mood. If you don't have any juice to drink, you can get it from the crab before playing a musicblock by flattering it then hugging it.

  • You are extremely fortunate!  I have played every block including GNG and SB-1 for all crabs and have not made one happy enough to award me a Badge.  I played them over and over during Beta (except for GNG which wasn't out yet and SB-1 which I had no access to at the time).  I have played them all, many of them more than once, since the Reset and still no Badge.  I am resigned to being unable to cheer a Crab and to even making them too mad to give me Crabato on a few occasions.  Sigh.  Still, I Congratulate you on your amazing achievement!

  • I tried your strategy, Glitch E, and it worked on my 2nd game day trying it!

    December 26, Twoday 44th of Fever: Scribe's Weald, XS-2

Well, it was sort of like your strategy. I've been collecting music blocks until I have 4 or more of a kind and then donating that group with EHSP. So the most recent music block I got from daily activity was XS-2, and it completed a 4-of-a-kind, so I loaded them up to go donate to Mab. But first I made the rounds of the crabs. The one in Oktyabrya gave me 600 currents... and the one in Scribe's Weald gave me the Make a Crab Happy badge! (Woo, 2,000 currants!)

I'll also probably keep making the rounds because of the energy/XP/currants reward, and because the walk between crabs is great for renewing my supplies of dullite, sparkly, guano, beans, bubbles and more.

Just wanted to let you know how effective the strategy of "just take the latest musicblock you randomly earned to every crab and see what happens" was. Thank you for the suggestion!

  • That's awesome, Vortexae! Congrats! :D

@Brib Annie You've played it SB-1 and didn't get the badge? Bummer. :( I thought having that block would make the crab happy much easier, unless someone else with SB-1 just recently played it. I hope you have better luck with it.

  • Today I finally made a Crab happy and myself too! It took months. I was in Ilemske harvesting poo when I accidentally clcked on the Crab. I had a load of blocks in inventory so just randomly picked DG-3 and Voila, the Crab was very happy!

  • I can't believe it... it worked on the second crab and I've been trying for ages!
I went out without music blocks, squeezed a few chickens until I got one (DB-1), then played it to the one in Hechey Track, then in Scribe's Weald and voilà...Make a Crab Happy Badge!
    Thank you so much :))

  • I wish I didn't know there were benefits to making a crab happy more than once - I thought I was done when I got the badge, but now I'm going to be trying this. ;)

  • I played a DG4 to the crab on Baby Steepes and got a Happy Crab.

  • Glitch E, thank you so much for sharing your strategy. I decided to give it a whirl today. My first Musicblock of the day was a BB-1. I was skeptical that such a common block would work for this achievement, but when I played it for my fifth crab on Scribe's Weald, I got the badge! Thanks for making the crab and me very happy!

  • Thanks for posting this. I've been trying it - 3 times so far but no luck yet.

    I'm a bit confused though.

Glitch E wrote: "I just play all crabs the first block I get for that game day..."

Then Vortexae wrote: ..."just take the latest musicblock you randomly earned to every crab and see what happens" ...

Should it be the first of the day, or the most recent of the day?

  • Nice to see more people getting the badge. :) The funny thing is, I haven't made it happy since posting this, but I also haven't been playing as often recently. I still get a good amount of currants and crabato juice though.

Flowerry Pott wrote: Should it be the first of the day, or the most recent of the day?

I use the first. I think either way will work, but it's still mostly about playing the right block at the right time. Sometimes if the crab tells me, "Damn! I just heard this one! Argh!!!" more than once in a game day, I might switch to a different block if I have one, but I mostly try to use the same block for every crab even if some hate it because you never know if the other ones will like it.

  • Yay I just made crab happy!!!
I used first block I got today. DG-2.

  • Thanks, Glitch E. I guess just doing it over and over may eventually work for me. (Just like out of the hundreds of gameshow wheels I have spun, I finally got a cubimal - and it was Gwendolyn!)

    Thanks for the input!

I thought my luck ran out with the crabs, but I managed to make it happy again earlier today with XS-4.

  • Only Brib Annie and Oakland have posted saying they have SB-1. With the wording Brib Annie used in her post about having "access to" SB-1, I'm not really sure if it means she has it or if she borrowed someone else's, so it could be only Oakland who actually has that block.

I don't think the rest of the people who posted here have it - they've made the crab happy using regular blocks. I don't have SB-1.

  • Still haven't been able to make the crab happy. But I just realised that if you drink a carbato juice just before playing the crab some music, it will give you over 1000 currants.
Posted 12 months ago by Codex Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Really, Codex? I didn't know that! I always wondered what that crabato buff did. I'll have to try that next time. :)

EDIT: I tried it out. I think maybe what it does is double the amount you'd normally get from the crab for playing that particular block. At first, I wasn't getting much (less than 1000), but then I was able to get 1150 and then 1100 currants from the last two crabs.

EDIT 2: The highest amount I've gotten so far from drinking crabato and then playing a musicblock without making the crab happy is 1300 currants, so that seems to be about right with it doubling the reward you get since that's 650 x2.

  • The Crabato tip is great! I guess it is a hidden goodie like the "feed a pig ONE zucchini instead of 3 of any other veggies to fill him/her back up for nibbling" trick.

  • YAY!

I got the badge today, the 6th crab using DB-4! :D :D :D  (The DB-4 was the first musicblock that I received after entering the world.)

Thanks Glitch E for the tip! HOORAY!

  • Intersting tip. Will have to try it tomorrow.
Posted 12 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Tibbi: I had to try it around 7 times before it worked, but it definitely worked.

I tried the crabato juice too. It didn't result in 1000 currants, but there was a definite increase (the first crabs gave me around 25-42 currants, but with the crab buff, the result was ~350 currants IIRC).

ETA: I only had one juice, so I used it on the 4th crab.
Posted 12 months ago by Flowerry Pott Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If anyone doesn't have any Crabato Juice to use, you can always get it from the crab first before attempting to play a musicblock. Just flatter it, then hug it and you'll get the juice so you can drink it and then play a block. :)

Hooray for more people getting the badge! Random musicblocks ftw! :D
Posted 12 months ago by Glitch E Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh, thanks again Glitch E. I had never bothered with the crabs before, figuring there was no possible way for me to accomplish that badge. So not learned in crab lore LOL. But I got inspired to try when you created this topic. So that worked out really well, I would say. *does happy dance*

  • @Flowerry Pott: You're welcome! I tried for two months without making the crab happy, but after people like Oakland started playing SB-1, I noticed a lot of friends getting the badge, so I knew it was possible. I wasn't really looking to develop any kind of strategy. The method came about because I didn't want to waste inventory space holding a bunch of musicblocks and randomly picking one myself once I got to a crab. It works surprisingly well and leaves me with room to carry other stuff. :)

Nice, AbelC! And congrats on over 1 million currants! I've never had more than about 460k. I spend most of my currants buying other people's rare cubimals. The crab state of mind buff has been helping to fill my wallet again faster after going broke buying a Rube cubimal. :D

  • Thanks for the mention Glitch E :)
Yet I still haven't been able to make the damn animal happy! I've only used the blocks I receive. Oh well.

  • I can't make them happy no matter what, I'm ready to have crab legs for dinner.  LOL
Posted 12 months ago by xoxJulie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Whoa! I got two happy crabs in the same game day with DR-1 on Scribe's Weald and Karpal Tunnel. With the crabato juice, that's 8K currants! :D

EDIT: And the following game day, I made it mad twice. LOL! Making it mad while the Crab State of Mind buff is active makes you lose 20 mood. Normally, there's no mood loss, just a mad crab.

  • Thanks for this thread and thanks to the people who played the crabs the rare blocks. It inspired me to have a go and on only the second game day I got it :) XS3. I'm now going to take the advice of flattering and hugging the crabs and drinking the crabato juice. A very useful post and I wish more in the forums were like this :)

  • Another tip: make sure your mood isn't completely full. I've had it happen a few times where I wasn't able to drink any crabato because I was already in a good mood.
Posted 11 months ago by Glitch E Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks to Oakland for letting me listen to SB-1 a few days ago. :)

Another tip if you're using crabato juice. You can save yourself a crabato by waiting to see what the crab's reaction will be after you play it a musicblock. If it starts to dance, drink the juice ASAP! If it crosses its pincers and looks mad, don't drink the crabato. It's harder to gauge if it'll be mad or not if there are more people around when you're playing to the crab because you can't really tell if it's the other people there at the time who are making it mad (by pinching it) or happy (by hugging it) or playing their musicblocks. When there are other people around, I'll always drink a juice anyway, just in case.

Also, if your game is laggy (like mine has been lately since the wireless on my router is dying), you might miss your chance to drink the crabato if you're waiting for the menu to load while watching the crab's reaction.

  • I drink the crabato right before I play the tune and that works quite well for rewards.. On the other hand, I have tried playing my first earned music block of the day to all the crabs.. many times over and have never made a crab happy :(.  I'm pretty sure it's all just random.
