Community gardens

It might be nice if people who can't afford a house, don't want to own one, or have an apartment without a garden could rent a plot in a community garden space. I was originally thinking that everyone would have access to the community garden, but I think the plot rental would work better. Maybe the plots would be sized a little differently than those at the houses?

  • how would rental work?

each time you plant something, some money is drained along with the energy required to plant?

i think that would be the simplest, as it would require the least hoop jumping.

another possibility, buying just a plot in the community garden via the realty page or something like it.

make the purchase price very low, like 1000c [same as a fancy pick] and people can use their garden until they buy a house.

House-buying seems to trigger early in the skill table, at least the two character build-ups I've played. I needed it for a tree-planting quest, but that was out of proportion to the Croppery skill set, needing a Cabinet or other quests.

Alternatively, more open plots in "early" levels.

Renting a plot in a community garden gets those quests under way without Home ownership seeming to be a burden with little benefit, at least early-on in the skill table.

As mentioned in the OP, this would also help those who'd prefer to be a traveller in the glitch world rather than have a house at all

  • We have a design for move gardens into the world (like a bunch of organized patches) and it would be easy to make some of these public, though we might require that someone create it and offer it up to the Glitchiverse, rather than just place them randomly ourselves.
