When milking butterflies, keep the dialog box static and not moving with the butterfly.... its annoying trying to click 'massage' when you have to follow the box.
oh god yes.... with the rock popping up incandescently pushing new tasks and chickens flailing about I've wasted more lotion and annoyed more butterflies that I care to think about. It's a wonder they haven't telegraphed to each other that I'm all thumbs.
I've only been playing & reading the forums for a few days now, but this seems to be a common point of frustration. My impression is that, for whatever reason, butterflies are meant to be tricky. Who can question the will of the Giants?
Right now butterflies are difficult to access, but the success rate getting milk from them is high. I'd prefer a reversal of those qualities: make them easy to access (perhaps by slowing them down or making them stay low to the ground) but alter the success rate to be lower. Even with the max level of animal kinship, I'd accept a "you got nothing" message now and then.
I agree as well. However, in the meantime (well, once the game is open for testing again), you can use the arrow keys to navigate the menu once it is open, and then use the "Enter" key to select the option. :)
I've been thinking about this a lot because my initial attempts at milking made me want to give up on Glitch because I thought if everything was going to be that frustrating I did not want to play. I don't like playing "twitch" games where you have to be precise, and I consider Glitch as being in the "casual gaming" category where I can relax and have fun, not be frustrated. Happily, nothing else has been as frustrating as the butterflies, but I set up a butterfly in my backyard as soon as i could and actively avoid milking them. Milking is just Not Fun. So if it can be made fun by being able to buy a net or splash on "butterfly attraction cologne" that would help so much. Glitch should not be frustrating, just challenging!
this might be an issue that could be resolved by making the "hit box" of each butterfly larger.
or by making butterfly milking later in the animal kinship skill tree, with pig capturing earlier [although then piggy capture wouldn't align as neatly with home ownership]
+Millions!
Yeah I stopped fighting with butterflies after i spent way too much time on the massage quest and then got a quest to milk them. It was impossible to click on. I now ignore them an any quests related to them. Their interface needs to be changed. Forums are full of complaints about this and good suggestions to remedy the problem. I thought there would be a butterfly net when I first saw them now I want a big pin to mount them on the trees and leave them there! ;)
once you click them you can just press G to massage and L (i think?) to milk. it's really not that hard. I think that milking the butterflies is difficult in a funny and goofy way, I don't really think it needs to be messed with at all.
I posted those very same instructions several times in the help channel:
TRICK TO MILKING BUTTERFLIES: Jump on to butterfly and push ENTER. Use up / down arrow keys to select massage and press enter. Do same to select milk.
It works 100% even if the butterfly is moving around and the dialog box as well. It took me awhile to figure this out ( I was cursing quite a bit before I did ).
Yep! Just make sure your mouse isn't anywhere near the dialogue to choose when you end up choosing, because I found a couple of times that when i had what I wanted selected, the butterfly would fly near my cursor, and my selection would change. I've sung to far too many butterflies when I really wanted to massage!
Ahh Remote Heard Keeping, thou art my friend! I got this skill during this last test and made about a dozen butterfly eggs, got me a butterfly milker and i never have to jump around after those friggin things again!!
I think the way they work is fine. It probably WILL be necessary to explain it a bit more thoroughly though. The rock might say, "Those little buggers are hard to catch, but there are ways." Or something more well written, and less devoid of whimsy.
P.s. I'm having trouble figuring out how to get salt. Is there a link or something, or a page dedicated to finding salt? That sure would help.
If a fruit changer changes cherries, a bean seasoner seasons beans, and an egg seasoner seasons eggs, then why isn't a spice mill called a spice changer or a spice seasoner? or call it a seasoning seasoner, if you want to avoid the first mental trip up on making salt. Or a seasoninger.
Still broken, IMHO... the button is a minute improvement (literally). If this is a kid-friendly non-twitch game, why is this so hard? And giants help you if you try to milk when standing anywhere precarious.
+1000 I joined this game because I liked the creativity focus that all of the discussions of it had. All the things that I dislike about this game are the things that make it less of a role-playing/world building game and more of an arcade/platformer game. Things like trying to chase down butterflies, jumping a dozen times before I can get to the platform with the rock or tree I want to harvest, falling off the bridge in the upper canopy of the bogs after harvesting each jellisac and taking 5 minutes to get back up. A couple of times the staff has said certain things are meant to be challenging, but I want to challenge my brain and creativity with figuring out clues, or crafting things together. I like alchemy, which is even rather too easy, and the maze in the Tower (except for the jumping). Testing my hand-eye coordination and reaction time were NOT what I thought this game was about.
