[POLL] Finish learning skills at full speed or Save emblems for an Icon?

I am not sure whether I should continue to focus on learning all the skills at maximum speed, or if I should use all my favor points to get the Icons. What does everyone else plan on doing?

  • after I'm done learning mining IV (it's taken 8 days! Only 1 day left:), I plan on just collecting icons, until I have another skill that takes longer than a day.

  • You have a pretty good skill set thus far. No harm in taking a break and getting an icon.

  • I've already saved a couple of emblems and favor for the skill I just started. So I'm gonna spend some time working on getting the Zille icon (not related to the skill I have going). Then I'll probably go back to saving up for skills first. I just want one icon for now. Eventually I'll have them all!

  • I'm with Muncey, since my skills are only 1 day or shorter still I think I'll be patient about learning and start collecting some emblems for my patron giants icon then it's back to the fast learning again :D

  • I'm saving the emblems. Skills can wait, I've got the ones that are important to me, so I'm not in a rush for the other skills.

  • I never have never used any favor for speeding, and respecially never specifically donated to speed any skills! I guess my thinking is that the waiting kind forces me to explore other aspects of the game other than the skill I'm learning. It kind makes the game "last," if that makes sense.

  • Hmm...  I think this question will be rather moot for me in ohh... 2 hours or so if I go into the game and speed up the last 2 skills I have to learn.  If I don't go into the game this evening, it'll be moot in ~4hrs.  I think I'll be collecting emblems -> icons for the next bit.  ^^;

  • Marebito! Does that mean what I think it does? That you are oh-so-close to finishing ALL the skills???? OMG! I think you are the first player to do that! Congratulations, mf!

  • I'll do both :P I've have such a small life quotient that I can probably manage to donate to the top three giants for my skill as WELL as a fourth giant to collect emblems from. :P

  • the only problem is that you cant get all the skills without the icons

  • ^^;  My poor rock's been hitting the books pretty hard.  I guess it deserves a bit of a break.  :P

  • Use them to keep speeding up so I can finish in 20 days instead of 40.

    Then idols.

  • I think Idols are for long term skill learning. Definitely use emblems until you have all the skills you want before you save up.

  • People keep talking about using emblems to speed up learning, but I never understand this.

To me, the amount of time I spend building up enough resources to get enough favor points to speed up learning is way way too much to make it worth it. You can only cut the time in half (at best), and I don't have a system that let's me do that quickly enough to make up for the time I spent implementing the system. For me, to save a few hours (or even days, since everything is linear in this game), would take me more hours than I'd save. I'd rather do other things in the game in the meantime and just let the skills build up in the background at normal speed. Am I totally off base here? 1000 favor points only speeds up learning by 2 hrs and 47 min at best... what am I missing?

For me then it'd be a no brainer to go for the icons, but only as collectors items since they don't seem to be worth the trouble it takes to get them.

  • Skills first, icons later.  I will avoid getting emblems to keep the cost of emblems from jumping too high, though.

  • I've got ten of 11 icons in my bag ( had 11, had to spend Tii and haven't gotten a new one) every (game) day I get 360 free ex and an extra boost of energy or mood if I need it. I'd say worth it.

  •  I spend the emblems to speed up skills.

@ Paddy Pablo: If you learn skills faster, you can then do everything better and maximize your play time.  You say it takes too much resources to speed up learning and I see you have the same problem I did in beta, learning too many low level skills first. I found out that learning a single skill to max rank was best because the benefits get crazy. For example, if you stuck with Animal Kinship past level 2 to max, each chicken could be squeezed by your expert touch and instantly cough up 10 grain, and this can be done 5 times! That is a lot of grain to work with. Not to mention you would be swimming in music boxes from all your super harvests, which you could sell or donate to learn other cool stuff.  I highly suggest you spend those icons and start learning higher level skills.

tldr: Speeding learning is good because you can do things better sooner and reap Huge rewards. Also Maxing a skill > many low level skills.

    Edit: 10 grain I

  • With AK7, each chicken squeeze gives 10 grains, and you can squeeze up to 5 times a day. This is the primary way I eat in the world now, since chickens are so abundant. AK and Gardening are both worth learning to the max early. (Gardening 3 = 12 eggs per Egg Plant harvest, and you can harvest each Egg Plant 2x/day.)
