Banks!

One idea that I haven't seen brought up is a banking system in the game. It could serve as a way to save larger amount of items, much like the closets in a house do now. You could have players buy a box at the bank and charge different amounts depending on how much the boxes hold. Also, you could deposit money and get a daily return, maybe 5-10%, based on how much you deposit.

Not only would the banks be functional and useful, but there are ways they could tie into skills and every aspect of gameplay and character interaction.

  • I don't know how banks should be implemented into the game, but I like the idea of having banks.

  • I thought I heard they were going to let us make corporations and stuff ( kara.allthingsd.com/2010082... ) . A bank might already be in the works.

  • there's an easy way to do banking, and a hard way.

the easy way is how most games i've played do it. you put money in, you get money out after time, with interest.

the hard way is also include the other side of banking. money loaned at interest.

and then to have the saving side and the lending side fit together properly, so that if loans aren't being paid back, rates of return suffer.

  • Currants are so easy to get in Glitch, why worry about banks? It's not like the game tries to mimic real life...

  • Since currants don't actually take up any bag space, it's not really a problem for me. It's just a number on the top of the screen. If it's solving a problem of too many actual items and not enough space to put them, I don't think a bank is the solution to that problem.

  • the more i think about it, the more that banks would be a detriment to the game.

think about it .. if all you needed to do to make money was put money into the bank and wait .. what incentive would there be to have an actual in game economy?

maybe if the banks also lent money to poorer players, that would compensate.. but if not you'd have the better part of the liquidity of the glitch economy sitting out of play not generating interactions between players through trade, not demanding productive work to make a profit.

once a player amassed enough capital, they could disengage engage from the game, bank and do anything they wanted based on the interest generated from that capital.

which might be great for that player, but would be horrible for the vibrancy of the economy.

  • The Glitch world has now been split up between Capitalism and Communism. After the defeat of The Rook, everything went into a downwards spiral. The wall that has been built trough Meadow forrest only seems to have increased the tentions between both economys. The Capitalistic part of the world, primarly based in Uralia, has come with a storm of new inventions and street projects. Though the Communists, based in Groddle meadow, didn't hesitate to fire back some groundbreaking technology and it is rumored that they will launch a whole new street plan. The world seems to crumble up in influence areas, and it is said that rebellion armys are supported by the opposite world forces. The little man seems to be forgotten, working hard and long for his Fatherland, while seeing that thier money is spent on even more useless technology rather then something to actually help them. The only people that seem to gain from this 'war of technology', are the billionaires that lend their money to either a side of the now splitted world. But howlong can they keep this on, at what point will one of the economys have to quit their project to be the worlds biggest force, or succumb to a very large sumn of loans?

  • There is much more to the banks idea than interest and even that can be nerfed.

  • When I originally posted the idea for banks, my idea was for there to be an emphasis on item storage since you can only carry so many things in your bags. I go out to mine and 15 min later I've filled an entire bag with ore and gems. The closet at my house doesn't help much either since that's only 9 slots. I just think there needs to be a mass storage system so I don't have to keep selling off items I may need in the future.

The investment side of the bank was just a side thought and isn't really necessary.

  • we know that houses are going to be much more customizable in the future, and buying larger and additional cabinets of various styles are probably going to be part of that, although don't really know *for sure*.

we are all going to need much more storage space in the future, if not in the present.

and slokda, that was great : ]
