Parody of how the hellish cold taco became there

Once upon a time, the god of hell was getting bored with the blandness of the red, black, or white of everything. Everyday, he would find out about that lucky Scion of Purple who got a whole REALM OF PUPRLE! He didn't even want this job, he wanted to be a vendor, but when he sold stuff, people made fun of him for being grey. So, to spice up life, he added the worlds spiciest, awesomest, placed-in-the-world's-hottest place but suprisingly cold still, Taco. But the thing about this taco, is that it was unreachable, pretty soon, people tricked him, but he fixed it, but they still can! To this day, he loves watching glitchen try to get up there.

The end

  • Lol same here

  • Why delete it?  It contains useful insight from other players and from stoot which will be lost if 'deleted'...

  • Instead of deleting it should (and can be) just locked so others can view the chain of thought.

    In before the lock :p

  • I like having no ads on the game, get enough of that everywhere else on the web and out in the real world.  People want ads so that everything is free to all players? Or did I miss the earlier point.  I hate quoting other posts.  It's kinda cool that I'll be able to customise and sell my own furniture.  Wasn't what made me subscribe though - it's now just an added bonus! : ) I will be crafting some nifty designs ; ) Just waiting on those darn foxes!

I don't believe all the debating in the world is going to change how TS runs financially and I truly hope that it doesn't change.  The choice is there for all to subscribe or not.  You choose, either way you get a great in-game experience, loads of fun friends and some real fun away from the stresses of real life : ) *I'm way past my moaning of the strawberries now ;)*

*Edit* Why do peeps want this locked?? Did I miss an offensive post?

  • "Members if willing to spend more credits, can get more currants than normal Glitchen."
    They'll probably Gamestop you.

"Oh, brand new Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition that goes for 70-80 bucks? We'll give you 25 dollars for it.".-Gamestop.

And considering TS has always been aboot fairness, I highly doubt they'd buy back a 20 credit furniture piece for anything more than 20.
Posted 9 months ago by Volkov Subscriber! | Permalink
  • My opinion on this, now that the discussion's well over, is that since the furniture upgrades are purely cosmetic (a free box stores as much as a fancy 40-credit one), there's no real added gameplay value.

I realize that aesthetics are a huge part of the game (heck, I subscribed for the dang HATS), but it seems like TS has realized this and is working on providing plenty of free furniture items, in addition to credit- and subscriber-locked ones.

The issue of selling furniture for currants seems like a pretty minor one - at higher levels, people tend to have plenty of currants and not nearly enough credits for all the spiffy hats they want. *cough*

The funny thing to me is that the main hypothetical reasoning for wanting to be able to SELL credit upgrades to other players is to get the game's only really exclusive items... which are again not advantageous to gameplay (especially as people with GNGs/funpickles/et cetera are often willing to let you touch their stuff)... but these items are certainly far more exclusive and unique than the furniture itself.

Basically, what I'm saying is "I hope beta-2 testers get a special hat."

  • Thank you dm, you are very gracious.

I would also like to apologize to you because I was harsh in my responses and unfair and even deceptive in my arguments.

I completely neglected to mention the great contribution that the free players make to Glitch. When I said that content isn't free I was not being honest because in Glitch, as in many websites, the content created by the users is a very large part of the value of the experience. All the code and art and server time would not matter if Glitch was empty and especially during beta, free members are essential creators of content just by playing.

Also I think that many of the "more time than money" players are the most generous, helpful, knowledgeable, and creative members of the community. I think it is important to recognize that and not calculate the value of a member by how much money they spend on the game, which is what I am afraid I was guilty of doing.

So I want to apologize for being so harsh and for presenting my position without acknowledging the enormous contributions made to Glitch by the free members.

  • Taco, while I can agree if a post I made seemed to make me feel sad I would not like the reminder of it every time I logged into the forums. But MODS, if you plan on removing this post, is it possible to rip the contents off of it into another thread?

The posts by stoot and several others are very important. They give a very clear picture about what TS is, and what it stands for. As well as being a testament towards something very important in the game. I know that there are several places where there is an occasional mention of a staff topic somewhere, but what was written here these last two days very seriously should be considered Information Everyone Should Know.

Perhaps if it was transcribed into a blog post, some sticky note, or even included under that FAQ that might help. But don't let this discussion get destroyed.

Taco, I can understand your want to have the post removed - I really do, but out of the chagrin you feel something that will benefit the future of Glitch emerged. So take some pride in that.
Posted 9 months ago by Wyrd One Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I believe if that the person who started the thread should be able to delete it.
Posted 9 months ago by AwesomeCardinal2000 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Awesome, while I can understand where you are coming from, sometimes a reminder of what happened is more important than our personal feelings. In a sense, that is very much like on the one hand, destroying a little bit of history and knowledge, which is by far the scariest thing I can imagine. Its like editing a history book to remove all aspects of a topic you do not like (Much like Thomas Jefferson is being removed from history books for his views on the separation of church and state, google it.)

Or on the other hand, if you don't believe that it is a significant facet of our history, and a piece of knowledge worth preserving, then I might be inclined to liken it to the more childish form, 'it is my ball, and if you aren't going to play the way I want, then I'm taking it and going home'.  Please note this is not what I am saying to you, this is what it seems in those situations where a thread just up and vanishes because someone decided to delete it arbitrarily.
Posted 9 months ago by Wyrd One Subscriber! | Permalink
  • But if you started it, you should be able to delete it and everything else. Cause you can delete updates, so why not forum posts?
Posted 9 months ago by AwesomeCardinal2000 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I disagree.

The OP can edit the original post, and if there's a larger issue, the staff can step in. I think if threads started going missing, there'd be MORE drama. Whole forum threads about other threads not being threads anymore. Dramatic last words. Confused Glitchen, wandering desolate bits of forumland, searching in vain for the subway entrance...

I can understand that Taco feels the thread got away from him, but he could presumably edit the first post and walk away - we're not even discussing the original issue anymore!

Edit: I guess what I mean is that we can already "delete" our own posts. Why should we be able to take other peoples' at will?
Posted 9 months ago by Spaghetti Thompson Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Much like Elyd said, you can edit the first post, the original post, and all the subsequent posts you made on it. If you delete the whole thread, then you are removing everyone elses post. To go back to the idea of removing or covering up history, what right, does anyone have in these matters, to silence other peoples voices?
Posted 9 months ago by Wyrd One Subscriber! | Permalink
  • We could just throw the other responses somewhere else then.

  • After reading the whole post I have my visa card out and am gonna sign up.  Lobe!
Posted 9 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That is why I asked if it was possible to rip the contents of the thread onto another thread - while keeping who posted what, save for the original posters' comments if he or she wishes to have their voice removed from the conversation.
Posted 9 months ago by Wyrd One Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Cardinal, why? That seems like way more work for everyone involved.

What's wrong with not having the last word? We have the power to edit our posts and leave if we don't want to bother anymore.
Posted 9 months ago by Spaghetti Thompson Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If the OP can edit the original post, then that would seem to address the issue that the OP here is concerned about. Deleting the whole thread seems overkill.

  • Well, I sort of had my say that what constitutes 'game play' may be different for those that enjoy design aspects of the game (ie, designing beautiful personal spaces, in addition to the original beautiful Ur spaces designed by stoot and company may be what some individuals would consider "game play" and not just cosmetic).  I won't put in my previous whole argument for a middle ground here, but will link to it for those that are curious.

I do find it interesting that stoot changed his mantra from 'free to play' to things that won't provide advantage in a 'pay to win' way (which I don't disagree with this philosophy...I think that's a good idea)...however, I get a bit confused with this concept for a game that 'you can't win' or is 'neverending'.  If you can't win...then there is never anything that provides a 'pay to win' advantage, even if you charged for everything or charged nothing (which granted would be a silly business decision)...I'm thinking there has to be something better out there for stoot to hang his hat on, but it's going to have to be something unique that he comes up with Glitch specifically, not something that originally relates to/resonates with other MMO games.  And honestly, I'm not sure what that mantra should be...right now it seems something like...'paying doesn't provide an advantage to leveling or most actions in the game, except for personal player creativity/design because we don't consider personal player creativity to be actual gameplay because we consider it to be cosmetic...'  - Okay, so that's too wordy...I guess I continue to be a bit miffed that devs can 'create something beautiful' but players get stymied from creating beauty right now, if they aren't subscribers or buying credits.  (Note, I AM a subscriber - so it has minimal impact on me personally, just being vocal for those that aren't right now - and the 'creating something beautiful' statement as it is currently implemented seems to be a bit of a double standard...I hope that changes for the future, but it just seems that is what it is right now.)

And for players that think the non-subs have a 'ton of free options'...I encourage you to open an alt, and play it as a free account and see how much satisfaction you have in wearing predominately t-shirts, or only being able to decorate your home with only the free options...I think you will quickly realize how much their hands are tied in expressing their personal creativity.  I hope this will change over time with the addition of some better 'free options'...but frankly, my original argument was to highlight that I really didn't want more completely free stuff...but again, I reference previous link in this post for my lengthy discussion and stoot's thoughtful response a few posts later.

I will continue to chuckle how folks will moan about they 'need' to charge so much for pixels, else TS 'will go under'.  No, I don't really want ads either, though frankly, I was one of the few that wasn't completely opposed to 'well placed' ads when it was asked about it in previous beta. But, what about alternate income streams?...how about some cute merchandise, which as been asked for by the players?  I'd rather buy a cute RL tshirt, a few fun plushies, get a cubminal keychain, etc, than continue to keep this chasm that is developing between paying players and non-paying players on the creative side of things in game...but again, for the record, I do agree to disagree on this business choice by TS to have such a gap between paying and non-paying players for what they say is cosmetic, but I say is player personal creativity...and frankly it's their business after all...

Sadly, IMO, this is one of our only casual MMO gaming options, so folks like me end up staying even though we know we're at odds with some basic business philosophies (and will continue to bring it up in the forums)...honestly, I really wish there was more competition in the non-combat, casual MMO world...but currently there is no where else for folks like me to go, if I chose to vote with my feet...so, don't tell me to go elsewhere if I don't like it...and just because I'm not happy with a certain aspects of the game, doesn't mean I don't like other parts of the game.  I just feel this is 'back to beta' and we have a right to provide our input back to TS in a, hopefully, healthy discussion of viewpoints.  The what I call "the creative side" of the game is something I feel rather passionate about...so I feel some odd need to defend it...

    ETA: Sorry...yet another TL/DR post...

I played for free to level 47, and I wear a t-shirt and jeans.  I consider the free furniture options adequate.  Many players are fairly uninterested in the "dress up and decorate" part of the game.   Just say'n.

  • I'm not a subscriber, but that doesn't mean I lack style! Even when I *did* subscribe for two months, I wore my simple gray outfit because I like the simplicity of it all. I have 500+ credits, but don't see a point in spending them! This outfit, btw, was rocking over 50% at Glitch Mash last time I checked, so it's obviously not horrid, even though it's free!

As far as being held back because I don't subscribe...well...I just got back from a two month hiatus (real-life drama), and I still have over 700k currants, a backyard full of tens of thousands of items, and people don't look down their noses at me from their high kingdom of Subscriptiondom. All in all, I think this game has the most appeal and provides the most amount of fun without requiring a single purchase made.

In closing, bravo to T.S., and I wish you great success in everything you do!

Your initial perception of the way things were progressing resulted in a great response/clarification from stoot about this exact topic. If not for your OP we would not have heard it put that way.

I hope you'll give some thought to re-editing your OP to include your initial post along with your updated understanding of the issue so that everyone's responses don't appear to be nonsense.

  • I think it is extremely poor form and very rude to everyone who participated to change a title/topic after the fact and make everyone's responses look like nonsense — especially given that the responses were on topic: the discussion was presumably exactly what the OP wanted when it was first posted. (I also have no idea what the problem is/was with this thread, so no idea why it would be so painful/difficult to have to read it.)
