Thoughts on the latest changes

The music is both excellent and fitting. It actually integrated so well, it took me a few minutes to notice it was there!

Could/do the conversations with organisms develop into quests. Having little quests which come to you at random times when you're not expecting it would be quite fun, and would lend more interest to the dialogue.

  • Ditto on the quest idea. The music is monotonous!

  • I quite like the music - it's almost trance-like, it would be nice to have different music in different areas though.

I suspect that the conversations with the animals are the start of something already but I also love the idea of them having more purpose than they do currently. How about a treasure-hunt style quest, where different animals in different regions give a clue to something else?

  • I don't know if they were just fed up of having been silent for so long, but it seemed like there were too many objects trying to chat with me all the time. I think it's a fantastic development, just that it's perhaps a little 'overloaded' at the moment.

  • I like the music. I think I'd like more variation added over time, but right now it's nice.

I agree with RealJimBob though. Getting backstory snippets is great, but it does feel like they're all coming in a bit of a rush, with little piggies practically falling head over trotter to tell you the latest gossip. More spaced out would be better, I think - each conversation would feel a little more special if they occurred less frequently.

  • I don't mind the stuff talking to me as long as what they have to say is new.

A few times I've been prompted to speak to an object only to have it repeat something it's already told me.  That makes it too chatty for me.

  • I think this is similar to the introduction of the frog, in that too much of something can certainly be a bad thing. You tend to appreciate something more when it's a rarer treat, not a regular occurrence. Once the novelty dies off with the new introductions, they are all too easy to take for granted at the moment. Of course that could change if these events have a greater purpose somewhere along the line...

  • Variation in music would definitely be a plus, between area and whatnot. Perhaps different styles with different sections of Ur.

  • I'd like the ability to turn off the ambient music while retaining the other musical cues (like the rainbow, level ups and music boxes).

Also, what's with the memory consumption?  The game seems to devour memory at a much higher rate than it did last patch.  I have to reload every half hour or so...

  • I also had the thought that it would be nice if, someday, each area of the world had either its own musical theme, or a different variation on a unifying theme.

  • @Blitz
There are separate controls for sound effects and the background music.  Click the "speaker" icon on your game page.

  • Different music for different areas would be enchanting. Indeed. Love all the new stuff :)

  • I found the music irritating after a while.  It seems to be on too short a loop.  Next test I'll try the speaker icon.  I stopped clicking on "talk to".  I know some people took notes -- just in case! :)

Things that I heard about that I could definitely do without:  One player said she and some of her neighbors got eviction notices for non-payment of homeowners assn dues.  Someone said stoot mentioned that property taxes would probably be introduced.  There seems to be talk of glitches being able to start businesses/have jobs.  This is all too much like real life for me. I play Glitch for relaxation/whimsy.

  • One of the more disturbing things is talking to a patch and then digging it up. (Patches aren't so bright.)

  • i would like it if the plants/rocks/patches/whatever else could give you quests, not necessarily related to plants/rocks etc. but maybe trying to find bits of story. More long-term quests that could take days or weeks to complete and unlocks an /Indiana Jones hat or something.

  • Talking things were fun at first, but novelty wore off fast.
If they gave quests, as people have suggested, I would be interested.
But having everything witter long rambling stuff at me constantly for no real purpose got as irritating as the delivery frog who insists on chattering away and then showing off his yoga.
Once is amazing.Twice is kind of fun, but after the 5th time... really?  D=

  • @WindBorn I tried that, but you can't mute the music. I would like to be able to mute the music completely. Backgroundmusic in games gets irritating after a while...

  • Hmm odd, I'm afraid I was one who found the music on too short a loop and turned it off after a while.  @ Victoria, all I did was slide down the in game volume control (the one on the right of the two) and that just muted the music, not the game sound effects.

  • I think long term with talking everything, it would be nice if they could be space out more. Maybe a limit to one per every 12 game hours? It would go to make it more special and keep the novelty.

    (I do LOVE the writing.)

  • While music nice at first after short time became tedious.
Quit talking to objects. If the game was on 24/7 I might want to spend more time reading. On second thought, if there was no purpose to it I would ignore. What would be cool would be if they actually "talked" to me. Hee Hee Hee....

  • Re the talking, I think there should be a quit or skip option so that you don't have to go through the whole dialogue if you don't want to.  I heard a number of pearls of wisdom repeated a fair few times.

  • So may things tried to talk to me all the time... with such pointless babble, that I stopped talking.
If I thought that babble would lead anywhere though... and if it were more rare... i wouldn't ignore them all the time

  • I agree with what Lord Bacon-o said about spacing out the talking things.

  • Weird, I never heard a single thing repeat their rambling... I therefore assumed they only said things once (if they don't, they probably should... although having a logbook that keeps track of what things say to you would be good in case you miss something and want to go back).

  • I'd like to see a show of hands of people that didn't turn off the music after 10 minutes. It quickly went from quirky charming to downright irritating. Different areas should have different theme/background music and as mentioned previously the music loop was way too short.

I quite liked the bits and pieces of back story, and hopefully it is building up suspense for some really new major quests, but I do agree I don't need to hear the same thing from every pig I run into, so after awhile I just quit talking to them.

  • I am documenting all the things we (me and a few friends) have heard and will be posting it on the wiki. Link will follow soon.

  • I loved talking with the animals, trees etc, had very few repeats. It's awesome to get some 'background' as to how things used to be in our Glitchen world before we arrived, look forward to more insight.  At first I was keeping track but as usual got immersed in playing, so great we will have it documented on the wiki, thanks Anilover.

The background music however left a lot to be desired, monotonous few bars over and over...no thanks. Different music for the areas could work, but please not a repetitive drone. A choice as to what we can listen to in our homes would be nice.

I heard someone mention an eviction notice, assumed it was a joke? How/where/why should anyone pay a homeowners assn for anything, to whom and for what?? It would seem that some players want to 'rule the roost'.

  • Do not like the fact of rocks calling all the time your name saying come here and listen, drives me batty.would love to see an option at the gates to the mines that say no talking allowed and then simply click this for the rocks to shut up.

  • I assume the music will be more varied later. Certain people in my household have been playing a well-known game for several years and the music has not changed in all that time, as far as I can tell - it drives everyone else in the house crazy!

  • Wouldn't it be great if we could choose the music like an ipod shuffle, or just different choices for the various locations.  If we ever go underwater or beach scenes have the sound track from Jaws.    LOL
