Community things

I'm not embarrassed to say that I play Puzzle Pirates off and on. Okay, actually, I AM embarrassed, but hey, I have kids. Also, one thing I like about that game is that you can hop on, play a minigame and hop off, so it's like a Tetris substitute to take a break from work.

Among the things that seems to work well in PP is the notion of crews. These are fluid groups where people who are way into it can be "captain" and others can be "officers" or just "crew members", etc. (And there is also a hierarchical grouping into "flags", which are multiple crews. And there are both crew chats and flag chats. The different crews have different personalities, depending on things like how seriously people take the game and how tolerant they are of newbies, and, come to think of it, how much the crew chats.

Well, blahblahblah. But the point is that the crews are fluid (you can easily quit one and join another if you like), they help newbies get oriented, and they provide a restricted chat.

I imagine in Glitch, allegiance to giants would be one natural level of hierarchy, but then there might be sects or clans or something within that. Possibly, new players could just get shoved into a clan, with a message that "hey, these are your peeps. ask them for help when you need it." (As long as there's an option to switch clans to be with your friends.)

And I imagine that our esteemed devs are already thinking of these sorts of things, but I am going to post this anyway.

  • this sounds similar to guilds/clans/tribes in other games, I think it would be a good idea to have it here aswell to have a better feel of community in places there could be competiton rolled into this too to see which guild/group of people are donating the most to which streets with over winners over  a week or so with special rewards and such
