Looking for a cozy new home!

Hello fellow Glitches,

I am a new player, and currently looking for a home.  I am not very familiar with neighborhoods, and have abou 3,100 currants.  Any tips on where to look/what the different types of homes offer?

  • Before the reset, I had a house in the Meadows. Since the reset, however, I've settled in the swamps. Swamp houses are a good deal. The location is great, and if you like herb gardening, even better.

  • Estevan Meadows for the win!
Just one hop to the awesome firebogs, and close to downtown Gregarious Grange. Gardens, gnomes. Wood trees! What's not to love?

  • Try to get something close to the subway station.

  • Good question! I've lived in four different homes since I started playing Glitch. Here are the things I think about when I am looking for a place to live:

    Use the map to determine:

    - Is it near a subway? If you teleport everywhere this is less important, but even then it can be handy. If you don't teleport, this is essential.
    - Is it near resources I intend to use? If you are a chef, Groddle Meadow or Forest could be good locations because they have access to plenty of fruit, meat, and beans. If you are a block-maker, you'd want to be in Shimla or Chakra or Jethimadh (the swamps/firebogs) for access to peat and jellisacs. If you're a miner, there are rocks to mine in the Heights and other Northern neighborhoods.
    - Is it near to shops I want to frequent? I try to make sure I am within 2 blocks of grocery, produce, and gardening vendors. I don't care about being close to animal goods or alchemy vendors. That's just my pattern - figure out yours and pick a place that is convenient to the vendors you use. (You can see what vendor is there by mousing over the currant symbol on each street on the map.)

Use the realty listing for each house to determine:
    - Do I want to grow crops or herbs? This is the main functional difference between the different kinds of houses here. House with crop plots will let you grow things like potatoes, onions, rice, etc. Houses with herb gardens will let you grow the different kinds of buff-giving flowers we have in the game. You can ONLY have one or the other.
    - Other resources: How many patches (this is the number of trees you can plant)? Dark patch (only place to grow eggplants)? Fireflies, barnacles, jellisac, pigs, butterflies, etc.? Pig pen (this keeps pigs out of the way while you're trying to garden)?
    - It doesn't really matter how big your storage cabinet is, because you can store an unlimited amount of stuff on your floor or in your garden. UNLESS you plan on having people you don't know too well in your house (big parties, some kind of creative endeavor), because guests can take anything you leave lying around, but they can't get into your cabinet.

And finally, appearance! This is the place you're going to come home to, so pick somewhere whose look makes you happy.

Tip: There's a Greasemonkey script that is super useful because it sorts the realty listings for each area by price: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/112151 You can use it with Firefox+Greasemonkey or with Chrome.

  • Honestly, I think the first question to ask is, do I need a home? Mine was basically a place I could store things. I had Trees, but it didn't really matter that much to me. I think the best reason to buy a home is to have a personal garden or a place to do the animal automation. If you don't plan to do either of those things, there's really no need for a home. The storage may be nice, but storing things isn't that important. I personally run on one big bag and one toolbox. I take that back, I have two spice racks, but that's for one of my personal goals more than anything else. Just my 2 cents.

To answer OP, as a Level 6, I would go for a bigger bag before buying a house if you haven't yet. I'd just focus on being AFK and letting Queuer learn you as many skills as you can. Any extra money would prolly be best spent on getting Emblems for your main profession. Once you're at the point where money doesn't matter... then I would go for a home.
