How soon is too soon to start saving up for a house/participate in street projects?

I'm currently at level 11, and I'm interested in getting my glitch a house of her own...but I've only got a few slot's worth of bags and still feel like I'm mostly at the "start" of the game.  Would it be a better idea to wait and focus on getting bigger bags for all of my slots, or focus on starting out?

And is it too early for me to be of much use in helping the new streets? I'm curious about that, too, but....I still burn through energy pretty quickly. ^^;

  • IMO, it's never too early to start saving for a house.  Since there are houses as cheap as 1000-4000 currants, it's no more than one or two big bags, and you have a base location.  Even the more expensive houses shouldn't take more than 15-36 hours of playing to save up for (if you are solely focused on purchasing a house).

    I found that the street projects aren't much fun before about level 17-20 due to the skills needed, and there being so many other things to occupy your time at the lower levels. Some will join in at lower levels, but they tend to say they can't 'do' much.  All levels are welcome, and even at lower levels, you might still be able to contribute an item or two to get a script to the new street.  It all depends on what you want to do with the street projects...if it's just to contribute a little...lower levels are fine...if it's to make it into the top 5, wait until you get closer to 20 or you might be frustrated.

  • Definitely save for your house! You will be worlds happier when you have all that room to store things. Street projects, it's just as b3achy said. I tried to contribute to one recently at my low level and was disappointed that I couldn't help out much.. so I'm holding off on future projects until I have sufficient skills/items to offer. :) But really, it's all in how you want to play!

  • Okay, cool, that sounds about right for what I was thinking. I think I'll focus on skill learning, quests and saving up for a house for right now. :) Thanks!

  • buy a treehouse in groddle for 2k. plant even a small number of crops and the place will pay for itself in short order.

    i don't understand the idea of "saving up for a house", really. treehouses are cheaper than bags, and in some ways a treehouse is less expensive than a *single* bag, given the return on investment from the garden coupled with the resale value.

  • Oh! I have 2k right now! I'm going to go see if there's a treehouse available. That sounds perfect for my glitch, anyway. Thanks for the tip!

  • I actually prefer the smaller rock/cave houses for my starter which are just more than a bag...2500-2750.  You get patches for  two trees, a small garden (8 plots), and a dark patch for an egg plant...plus metal mining outside your door...for me, it was the best deal, although now that they have nerfed the mining, it's probably less desirable to some.

  • Thank you for all your help, everyone! I went ahead and got myself a nice treehouse. :) http://i.imgur.com/Vi0gc.png

    Thanks for the tip, b3achy! I didn't see your post before I went ahead and bought the treehouse, but those houses sound great, too! I might check out the cave house after the reset if I'd decide I'd rather have that after toying with the treehouse for a bit...(or I could always move!) I'd definitely like the rock and eggplants, too, although I'm pretty happy with the chick and extra patch in the treehouse. (Plus I think I'm pretty close to some areas for harvesting eggs if need be.)

  • Glad you got a house!  I always encourage newer players to buy a house -- even an apt.  It gives you some place to drop extra inventory, sort through inventory and a place to go at the end of your game day!

  • The house thing is very cool and totally a satisfying decision to play around with but I would recommend against buying one at Low Level x unless you just want to see it happen.  It's a great sense of accomplishment, no doubt!  However, from a strategic standpoint I would say it is probably too soon.  It's better to wait until you can drop $8k without really noticing it.  Then you will get a house which a) has more capabilities, and b) won't feel like you are so cash-poor and be forced to go back to mining or harvesting for ages.  If you play your cards right, with $5k in your pocket, you can very comfortably start using the market to your advantage, buying supplies from (obvious bot) farmers and spending more time creating new stuff and less time pressing [Enter].  Just my two cents, have fun!

  • Seems like you already got a house. Excelent! =)

    I think it's good to look for a house right after your inventory becomes harder to manage. I got one Apt. with the value of just 1k, while one larger bag costs 2.5k.

    When you have items that you don't need or want to keep with you every time, you can drop it in your house and free some slots in your inventory to more important items.

    With teleport, it's almost like you have just another bag with you (except by the energy costs of course...)

  • Since you get 80% of your house cost back when you sell it, I don't see anything wrong with getting a lower end house in lieu of a bag...especially to have a safe place to drop items to sort or to cook up things (and have them drop on the floor if your inventory is full) or a quiet place to figure out your next quest strategies.  And frankly, once you learn some skills in the game it doesn't take very long to earn currants either through mining or cooking. Those 8-10K homes are within reach pretty quickly, and you just have to remember to pack up all the stuff in your house (or sell it to a vendor or on the auction)  before selling your house to purchase the next one.
