Learning speed cards are not very useful

The 2/5/10/15% learning speed cards are not all that useful. I started this alt with just BL5 in advance of iMG being released, and have pretty much every useful skill -- without ever buying the speed cards. Tank cards, multiplier cards, and raw capacity cards have always been a better buy.

My idea is to make the learning speed cards work like the quoin cards - instead of a cost reduction, as a speed multiplier. This would give a greater sense of accomplishment to work ones way up to 7x etc. Skills would need to be rebalanced to suit -- make [highest level skills] 6x longer and you end up in the same place at max (15% faster), but now the speed cards would have real meaning (7x faster than base). Mid level skills would get a smaller bump (e.g. a smooth exponential curve), lowest level skills would stay where they are (e.g. AK1 would not change, AK2 would go up 50%, AK3 would go up 2x...)

  • Has anyone else done most of their learning post-iMG?

It did occur to me that if the multiplier got too high, the learning time for the lowest level skills would get silly fast, making the pattern:

Unlearn skills A,B,C (to cut down the brain overloading penalty)
    Learn skill AA
    Relearn skills A,B,C

  • I haven't really bothered to get them, they just don't seem to be of any importance. I'd almost rather have them be "speedy learning" cards that I could turn in like emblems or something... I'd even be up for them as a way of getting special skills unlocked, but as they are, I'll probably only get them when I have nothing else to buy just to clear them from the deck, when they are truly useless. *shrugs*

Edited to add/emphasize: I'd rather spend currants on emblems to turn in for speedy learning or a wanted skill than spend iMG on an upgrade card that has a "slight" effect on a skill tree.

  • Bump. Now that we have some more folks learning up from scratch, I was wondering what other folks thought about this.

  • They make a *huge* difference when you're down to the last dozen or so skills.

I was grandfather'd with the first few from BL3 and had trained all the skills except the Rook-fighting related ones. The first thing I did when returning to Ur about six weeks ago was pick up the two learning speed upgradas ASAP. Getting those last two knocked some of my 16 day skills down to 9 days (or something -- I don't remember precisely but it was a week or more of a difference for some).
