Broken Hearts in Help?

Well, it seems that there are very rude people in Live Help, and I was insulted by saying I couldn't give useful advice, when I was only trying to help! I am not the kind of person who reports people, yet I think this has gone too far. I even listened to a newbie saying that she absolutely hated a staff on Help right to her face! And, another issue:
Live Help is just for help, right? Well, lately I come in on conversations on the stock markets in RL and stuff like that.
So what do we do about this?!

  • What the... I rarely go into Live Help and then only to ask for help. Has it really become that bad?

  • I have gotten incorrect and otherwise unhelpful advice in Live Help, from well-meaning players who didn't know what they were talking about.  I do wish it was a more authoritative channel and not just a chat line.   EDIT: the guides have always given good information; it's the random players answering questions who have occasionally steered me wrong.  I would prefer it if the channel was run by staff and guides.

I've never heard any off-topic conversations in Live Help but like Mal'akh, I've only been in a few times with specific questions.

  • Use the report system. I made a forum post about live help ages ago.

  • Kronos Rats - First, let me  say you were amazingly helpful and kind in Live Help. I hope you don't let today ruin your view of players and Live Help in general. It's normally a wonderful place to hang out. Especially if you enjoy helping other players when they need it.

As far as the conversations in Live Help goes, yes it's meant to be for help only. Occasionally when it gets really quiet, an off topic conversation will spring up. If it gets out of hand a staff member or guide will pop in and ask the conversation to be moved elsewhere.

  • I absolutely love helping in live help. But usually, I'll IM the person asking for help and help them that way.

  • I miss the happy days of live help. I used to hang out there all the time and had a blast helping. I hang out there a lot less of late because every time I go in and am feeling particularly "live help-y"  it almost feels like a game of one-upsmanship (is that a word? it is now).

Much lobe for my old live helpers. Much encouragement to the new ones. Like everything else in life, it's a mixed bag.

  • First time I went in I got frustrated by a rude response and swore never to use it again. second time I just went into observe chatter about an update and saw guides being really helpful. In the end I feel like you really dont know what your in for when you use it. I still have a sour first impression. Maybe the funniest part of all of this is I didnt want to use it the first time and a glitch pal suggested it only to have someone be rude and unhelpful.

  • Live help has never let me down. Sometimes I have to wait a minute or two for an actual staff member's assistance but that is not bad customer service for a game at all. A few times they have even come directly to me to assist. Now that is service!
In other games I've played, there is no live help and it takes about 4 to 6 weeks to hear back about your inquiry if you hear back anything at all.
Be thankful for the live help we have on this game, IMO it's excellent.

  • I hang out a lot in live help, and must say that in general it's on topic, friendly, and helpful.

There was an instance where someone asked for help because his girlfriend was unexpectedly pregnant and staff began offering advice and engaging in a conversation that quickly led to a swamp of moral and ethical issues.  And the person who said she absolutely hated staff seemed very, very young to me, and was essentially begging instead of trying to learn how to grind spice herself.

So you will sometimes find people who are losing patience, and staff who don't seem to enforce the LH quidelines as quickly as you might like, but overall, I think they do a terrific job at keeping things upbeat and responsive.

  •  Kronos Rats You are helpful in there!!

Maybe the other person had a bad day, or was given bad information last time they were in live help. I wouldn't let it bother you, just help the next one that come along ;)

  • I think Live Help is delicious.  It has pudding.  (Mmmmm... pudding!)

    And bacon. (Oh lord!  Bacon...)

  • I have found the Staff and Guides in Live Help to be most helpful. I appreciate the exceptional attention TS gives to players, and I appreciate the players who volunteer as Guides. I've also gotten some great help from other players who are hanging out in Live Help to augment the efforts of Staff and Guides.

I won't name names because I'm sure to leave out some worthy folks -- but I hope you all know that I mean you :)

  • Well, you're always going to get off-topic things and the occasional cranky person regardless of where you are. We're only human.

The key is to not let it discourage you. Remember that there's a bunch of us that'll be happy to assist when possible :)
