Toy making and ball games

Toy-making skill

This skill would allow players to use a toy tinker tool to make all sorts of toys such as teddy bears, dolls, balls, clockwork trains and planes, robots and games equipment. These could then be used to decorate houses and guild-halls, to play games or to sell.

Ball-crafting.

One of the uses of a toy tinker tool is to make balls. The colour and properties of each ball would depend on the ingredients

You add beans to make it bounce, metal to give it weight,
stone to make it hard, bubbles to make it fly,
fruit to make it soft, spice to give it colour.

Once we can make or buy balls and equipment we can play Glitch versions of common ball-games.

Groddle catch - players place two flags and a net on a street and throw the ball to one another across the net. A player that fails to catch the ball on their side of the net loses the point. A player who throws the ball beyond the opponent's flag also loses the point. This could be played by individuals or teams.

Groddle ball - players place one flag at each end of a street. They then use a single kick to propel their ball from one flag to the other. The winner of the round is player whose ball is closest to the flag.

Groddle golf. Dig the dirt out of patches. Stick a flag in it. Michty me! Golf!

  • topic on sports from a while ago, with suggestions of ball games like basketball and golf:

these sorts of precision games can easily run into latency problems if done in real time, but there are some ways around this.

one is by making the games turn based so at least the players don't have to be in perfect sync. turn based games like golf address this.

another is setting up ways to reduce the overall movement occurring on the screen at any one time. for example in a game of "groddle catch" the player throwing the ball might have to plant themselves in one position before throwing and then go into a kind of "Angry Birds" mode for determining the trajectory from that fixed point. that way you only have the ball and the catcher moving, instead of the ball, the catcher and the thrower.

  • Great idea! 1+
I also love the thought of having turn-based mini games... I think it would fit in with the game world quite nicely.

Another game that would be fun would be sort of a capture the flag/easter egg hunt. There are riddles and clues as to where the flag or object might be hidden, and a time limit. The team with the most number of objects by that time limit wins... perhaps one of those objects as a trophy or something!

  • I would love capture the flag. If you could divy up, say, The Meadow and you have to sneak across without getting tagged.
