Long Random Stuff

I really like Glitch. Even more than the actual, enjoyable and concrete game I like the possibilities for MMOs this great work opens and pushes. One of the best things, I think, will be the crowdsourced evolution of the game itself (the vote tokens points to great possibilities) and maybe this could mean some nice in-game features. Some random ideas:

1. The Cosmic Mirror. A newspaper/magazine (tablet application would be neat) that one could subscribe on. The thing could arrive in the mail, given by a NPC functioning like a newspaper boy or just a periodic interaction with Da Rock. In the Mirror one could see news about the Glitcherverse, GOD musings, but also articles, stories and photos/images from the glitchers themselves. I think the paper notes are a way to express in the game but this medium could bring many things to everybody and be a really funny way to know what happens with other players, parties, secret societies, etc. What comes to mind is the newspaper on the SimCity series that also concentrated some of the wit --and gravitas-- of the writers and also worked as a narrative center for the overall gameplay -here could be more like a nice extra-. The key, of course, is that this needs to be self-generated and sustainable. For starters (and trying to be 'conservative', lol) the notes could have some kind of 5-stars(moons? guanos?) ratings so glitchers could vote on their favorites, the images will come through an in-app application -more on this later- and some other out-of-the game elements could also appear like the auctions (through random selection), best dressed starglitchers, Social Events, Bureaucratic nonsense, some TheOnionesque fantastic news -involving Glitchers, UFOs and some "Elvvies" look-a-like-...  and so on. All this, of course, need to be short and concise (and beautiful designed, as everything here) and could bring some randomness and novelties to the game from time to time (and coming from the community).

2. The Glitch-o-rama -aka AlphaGram- or any other better name
This could be like a camera apparatus for instant picture gratification. Could come as an Item -a camera/video camera- that could function as a resizable, real-time, screen recorder. For that Friendly Moments --and NSFW party shots-- the AlphaGram allows the glitchers to point some space (using a resizable square on-screen) and click for a shot or a piece of "video". This could mean the real *indie* machinima the gaming world was asking for. The shots could be public, instantly available in an out-of-the-game page, with some kind of 5-moons ratings (for the showcase at the Cosma Mirror)

3. Later! (sorry for the long rambling)

In any case this game is great for so many things, It could really shine with more subtle but powerful user presence. What do you think?

  • +1 at both ideas! I would love a Glitchy newspaper in my Glitchy mailbox. And an in-game camera function is nice too, especcialy with the option to auto-post an a public site. That's even more convenient than taking screenshots (a hassle on Macs).

  • Nifty!

@Victoria: I use Skitch: it has simplified my screenshotting process considerably, and it allows you to set up your account images to "view only with this link", which is nice. Also free.

  • One thing I forgot -and could be really nice- is the camera allowing the selection of "filters" a la Instagram. The principle behind it is not that complex and can open many possibilities for the images -imagine that vintage / big format look in the pics -and videos!-, really hilarious-.
