Rocks -> Powder Efficiency

Hi all! I thought I'd share some of my number-crunching with miners, alchemists, and anyone else who might be interested. Since beryl, dullite, and sparkly always yield the same amount of red, green, blue, and sparkly elements, and the makeup of the compounds is known, it's possible to calculate the most efficient use of rocks for powders. In this list, you'll find my recommendations for the most efficient use of rocks/elements, which means keeping leftover elements of any one kind at a minimum. You can see more complete information here*, but here's the overview:

Extremely Hallowed Shrine Powder: 172 sparkly, 92 dullite
Fairly Hallowed Shrine Powder: 80 sparkly
No-no Powder (makes 10): 62 sparkly, 68 beryl
Fertilidust Lite: 14 sparkly, 12 dullite
Fertilidust: 40 sparkly, 23 dullite
Mild Fecundity: 93 sparkly, 31 dullite
Startling Fecundity: 58 sparkly, 90 beryl
Sneezing Powder: 43 sparkly, 3 dullite
Sparkle Powder: 83 sparkly, 24 dullite

*The document linked describes the compounds needed & their elemental makeup, total elements needed by R/G/B/S, and elements leftover from making a single powder from the rocks suggested. I've also included the composition of the powders by percentage, so if you have a ton of elements you don't know what to do with, you can make powders similar to the distribution in your pouch.

  • excellent work Melody Pond, i had done the math for a couple of these but having a full list is helpful.

    i have slightly different calculations for EHSP, but i think yours are more efficient.

    interesting to look at this .. EHSP grants triple the favor per donation, and FHSP merely grants double .. but you churn out 3 FHSPs for every 1 EHSP.

    would be interesting to see which is more effective over the long term .. EHSP, or FHSP in triple the quantity.

  • @striatic I think you also spend some 1/6 currants more but it currants aren't the problem, I go with FHSP

  • I think there's an omission in the materials needed for FHSP.  By my calculations you need 80 sparkly plus 49 dullite to make it.  This puts the 2 shrine powders much more for in the expected 2 to 1 ratio on rock needed to create them.

  • Hawkell's calculations fit with my experience. I didn't get nearly enough Green element to craft the FHSP. Also, according to my calculation spreadsheet the FHSP was more than 4.5 times more profitable to make than EHSP.

  • Checking the calculations again on the Fertilidust Lite numbers:
    We need 70R, 110G, 55B, 75S
    I see the best route to this as the following:
    12.5 Sparkly
    12.1 Dullite

    The calculations on the paper show 14 Sparkly, 6 Dullite which would total only:
    14 Sparkly - 84s, 56b, 14g, 70r
    6 Dullite - 48g, 30r
    Totalling 100r, 62g, 56b, 84s

    With those calculations we are short 48g elements.

  • Thanks for catching that, Skwid. I've updated the list to suggest 14 sparkly and 12 dullite instead, since I only use whole rocks for these calculations.

  • @striatic: The cost of creating shrine powders is marginal to the value of the donations. EHSP still wins out.

    EHSP reduces donations by 1/3. FHSP reduces donations by 1/2. The difference is 1/6 of value of donations needed. So for 1000 favor or 10,000 currants worth, EHSP needs to be more expensive than FHSP by 1666 currants (1/6 * 10000) for FHSP to be more cost-effective.

    According to the above information and ignoring the 70/80% vendor payout, FHSP is 627 currants (80 sparkly, 49 dullite) and EHSP is 1308 currants (172 sparkly, 92 dullite). So you're saving 681 currants with the cheaper shrine powder but spending 1666 currants more in donations. At higher donation limits, the value of EHSP becomes even greater since the cost of shrine powders are fixed while donation values increase.
