Idea 1: High-end, absurdly priced (but amazing) items. Idea 2: A game-run banking system.

Idea 1:
Regardless whether you find it easy to make money or not, many Glitches have loads and loads of it.  It would provide a lot of end-game incentive if there was an item-line developed that perhaps satirized actual real-life ridiculous things you could buy, but was still extremely highly priced.  House expansions could be something that would fit this, if there was an uber-tier level of expansions for the super, super rich.  $100,000+ in price, or something similar.  If the items were actually useful or seemingly of great value then this would really stimulate the whole in-game economy, as more players would want more money.

Idea 2:
A way to take out loans ranging from $10,000 - $100,000+.  The higher level loans might only be able to accessed by higher leveled players.  If you don't pay back your loans, you end up with debilitating permanent effects to your character.  If it was run by the game, it would be extremely legitimate and no one would be sketched out about utilizing it.  There could be a savings/interest system, as well.

  • Tell me more about the debilitating permanent effects you have in mind. I don't know that I agree, but I am fascinated nonetheless!

  • ''Absurdly priced" is a relative term! Very strategic glitches can easily make 100k in a single real day by playing only 6 hours, one per game day. I would define super, super rich to be at least a million. I'm carrying over 300k with me right now, but I know some glitches who are so wealthy it makes that look like pocket change. Cubimals and icons tend to be attractions to rich players, but I agree that having a few 'holy grail' type valuables would be exciting.

As for loans, why not create a player group for that?

  • Heh. When I read the idea about debilitating effects if you don't pay back your loans, the first thing I thought of was a debuff called "Broken Kneecaps" that renders you unable to move for a period of time.

    I'm so wrong at times.

  • For those who don't want to clutter up their Glitch with stuff, but still demonstrate how rich they are, there are party packs.  30,000 currants for 60 minutes of fun for you and your friends.  Conspicuous consumption with nothing to show for it at the end.

You could have a lot of fun with this, for example:

But I think that you should have a massive possibility and spectrum of potential effects.  From the trivial to the intense.

I said amounts only to get my idea across.  I'm totally for higher amounts.  Again, I think a spectrum would work the best.  I said 100,000k+.  I mean that to go up to a billion if necessary.  Perhaps an island where each house cost 1 billion dollars but it's a single screen?  Smaller islands where things are cheaper?  Truly long-term gameplay, something to really shoot for waaay down the line, but still having rewards for smaller scales as well.

This idea came about after reading a post that is more or less explaining the futility of player-run banking systems.

  • Oh dear -- Didn't someone in Eve set up a galactic bank, abscond with all the cash, then build an UberShip and challenge everybody to try and take him down? Errr -- Yes!

My point is, game banks doing anything much more than storage create huge potential problems, and no, strict regulation is not the apparent answer.  However complex or detailed the banking regs may be, clever people will always find a way to work around them.   Arbitrage in the Auction system has made me lots of coin, and now doubt a banking market could do both a lot of good and damage to the game.

    Beware.  Shiny, bright... and dangerous!
