Fireflies - Combining flasks

Due to the currently difficulty to find fireflies, and to put a full end these silly fireflies wars i was just thinking about one possible useful add to the game.
It would be interesting if somehow we could combine the flasks in order to have one complete set of fireflies.
Having one flask with 2 fireflies and other flask with 5 fireflies, combining and we would get the 7, required for lighting the pumpkins, making crystals or whatever else...
Thanks

  • +1! we could solve so many problems with that

  • I suggested this a while back: Firefly Consolidation & Cocktail Buff

  • @Fluxan, Exactly! I was imagining it also using the flasks that same way, but ofc might exist other ideas/solutions more "creative" for that. As long as it works for me that's fine.

  • +1.  Fireflies are already so energy intensive and twitchy to get, a refinement like this would be lovely (not just for Zilloween, but long term).

  • I do not like the idea of being able to combine jars. It takes the challenge away from gathering the sneaky little buggers... who really aren't all that challenging to begin with. It's challenging now because there are so many people hunting them and folks aren't letting the swarms get big enough before opening the jars and/or they're opening jars too far away. And when they do get a few jars that aren't full, they aren't using em to create bigger swarms for others to grab from.

The game needs something that's not just as easy as walking up to a pig and hitting nibble :)

That all said, it would be nice if the fireflies could respawn a bit quicker... I think that would reduce a bunch of the almost not quite filled jars (and the frustration that goes with it)

This is the main thing for me: if people don't have to fight for ore or even barnacles why do they have to "fight" for fireflies? Doesn't seem right to me. Yes, maybe fireflies showing on more often would be enough. But I think that would resolve the problem only temporarily. After a while more fireflies will mean more people collecting it. I don't know... maybe I can be wrong.
Anyway this combining flasks idea (as others related) just seems to me one good reason for people to cooperate more on catching fireflies. They could trade and offer half full flasks and as well catch them in organized groups and not being one players task only. Beside that catching fireflies uses lots of energy and after many frustrated attempts would sound nice to have a friend nearby to help you. ;)

  • Kul Koba - I am a frequent gatherer of fireflies (I collect them). Until this event I've never had a problem with too many people hunting. In fact, it's fairly uncommon to find a street without a full swarm for the taking... and if so, the swarm is usually ready to pop. Is an annual event really worth changing the mechanism of how the jars are used?

And the current ability to release the caught fireflies to increase a swarm size for someone else does seem pretty community oriented, so I'm not sure why you think it's not -- but I'm of the mind that people selling jars of 3 & 4 fireflies instead of releasing them for others (at outrageous prices barely below the price of full jars) is more a statement of the people than the mechanic.

I do kinda like the idea of more than one being able to work off one swarm (it fits with how nearly everything else works - dirt piles, ore, barnies, etc) but changing the way jars work doesn't seem necessary to me. That's been my biggest frustration during this event -- waiting for a swarm to pop only to have someone come in and open a jar right next to me. Fortunately, as folks become more familiar with the mechanic, that's happened less frequently.

  • imbri, as you know only 4 regions have fireflies and you are living in one of those, Chakra Phool. :)
It's impossible to collect or keep them elsewhere unless keeping them in flasks you own. Problem is that you can't release in your house (supposing you would live there) in Groddle Meadow or do anything else with a flask with 6 fireflies. The only options you have in that case is to sell that flask or to release the fireflies. You, in this hypothetical situation, also could arrange something with someone from those 4 regions. That's a realistic possibility but not very practical and that's why people do do that so much. As you know, people are not online always at the same time and can't entre in other person house without permission, so it's not really practical and people don't do it.

Also if everybody could store and keep fireflies the prices in auctions would go down for sure. If people do that now, selling jars instead of realeasing those fireflies for others, they will keep doing it even with more fireflies available. Nothing will happen unless practical reasons happen in order to strongly sugest people to change from one way to proceed into another and for that one must do something about the current "mechanism". At least that how I see things actually changing.

  • I wasn't talking about releasing them in houses... you can release them in the wild swarms as well. I just released half-filled jars for firefly hunters and, as I was jumping around getting coins, watched as they filled their jars with them. They did not have to come to my house - this was on a public street in a "wild" swarm.

Also, you can make bricks with just 5 fireflies. You only need 7 for crystals (and, now, the jack-o-laterns which are special content). You also don't need to have a swarm in your house to collect fireflies - I collect and display the jars throughout my place and did this before I got a house with a swarm.

  • I was trying to do that... and every time some player (maliciously or not - but also doesn't matter now), was putting his or her flask there and all the time it was always a big waste of energy and time. Beside  there was the frustration (and anger) part. This situation was already unbearable so I decided to quit collecting. Minutes after I had this idea and posted it here. Fluxan had the same one day before.

  • Yeah, I get the frustration. I just think there are other solutions :)
