Number input box doubling numbers.

I've just been trying to gather some seeds for planting. Trying being the key word.

I find that often when I pop a number into the input box thing it will double the number. Like say I type 3, half the time it will jump to 33 (and if my total of an item is less than that it'll jump to the max number of the item). It means a lot of the time I end up having to retype the amount, but that isn't much of a problem.

The real problem crops up if you're trying to do things fast or having to deal with massive lag as I am today. Because that number doubling? It happens right at the last second, just before you press enter. I was lucky in that I've only lost about 6 cabbages in this lot of seed gathering, but I've lost a lot more previously because of this. And it isn't my keyboard making it double, because I can type things in anywhere else like when making recipes etc, and I've never had the numbers double.

Of course a nice little 'feed 3 of this thing' option that was always available for piggies (regardless of the amount of an item you have) would be the most preferable solution. Or even a 'Seedification' option on the piggies that feeds them 3 of any crop you select. That way those wanting to feed piggies to keep them alive can, and those wanting seeds can have their own option too (and don't have to worry about losing large numbers of their crops to piggys, I think it would also speed up the process a bit as you wouldn't have to go piggy-feed-item-amount, instead you would go piggy-seedification-item.

Seed gathering is a tedious enough process as is without having to worry about numbers changing like this.

  • I've had this happen when I play using my netbook, but it doesn't happen on my desktop system.

  • I have had this happen to me, with both the qwerty numbers and the numpad ones.  I managed to feed over 200 cabbage to a pig this way!

  • Where'd my corn go! Oh... *glares at fat pig*

  • Yes, I've noticed the numbers there are very sensitive and quick to repeat. Why piggy feeding doesn't default to 3 (or give you a seed packet for each multiple of three), I can't understand.

  • Hey folks! So, there could be some connection between your keyboard repeat rate, and this happening.

    For instance-

"I've had this happen when I play using my netbook, but it doesn't happen on my desktop system."

If you check and alter the key repeat rate on your system, do you see it make a difference? For those seeing this, can you check your preferences to see if the key repeat rate is set to short/fast?

For windows, you should be able to find the keyboard preference in your Control Panel. On a Mac, it would be in the System Preferences. Meanwhile, I'll see if this is something we can reproduce from this end.

  • Why not just not accept repeating numbers. So to type in 55 in the box, you need to press 5 two times.

  • Thanks kevbob.  Changing the repeat rate made the issue go away on my netbook!

  • More on this: The number repeating only happens for me when I type a number while the number entry box is NOT selected. As in, when the "all" button is orange and I type 3, it always comes out as 33. When I move over to the entry box and type 3, it always comes out as 3.

  • I lowered the repeat rate and this still occurs, and I really am not comfortable lowering it too terribly far D:

  • Me too, Rodger :\

  • fwiw, kevbob, I'm on a windows machine and my repeat rate is set just under 1/3 above the lowest setting. I get hit with double numerals every ~10th feed to batterflies when I'm out on a guano farming mission. Honestly, before running into this thread,  I presumed it was by design as a mediator for botting

  • Effigy is right. Guess I inadvertantly had the input box highlighted when I checked after lowering the keyboard repeat rate... with the repeat rate at it's lowest setting numbers still double enter when the input box is not selected.

  • Is there an update on this? I am really losing a lots of crops this way and it's making me batty.

  • And a little piggy!  (By which I mean, I see the same bug w/ both Batterflies and Piggies, and my key repeat rate is not the problem)

  • No update yet Aristiana, it is something we have logged to look at more closely though.

  • Do you want more reports when it happens?  (I get this while feeding bats.)

  • This is happening to me everytime I feed something, I am running out of veggies... Wah wah. :(

  • This happens to me when I'm experiencing client-side lag, which happens to me (using chrome), every other day or so.  I exit the world and clear my entire browser cache and that lag goes away, as does the number doubling.

  • Some folks with older wimpier computers *always* have at least some client-side lag.

  • I have a 24 down 7 up connection and any  lag (aside from aberrant conditions including system failure in my ISP or similar upstream issues) I experience is due to the app not properly clearing old data from previous dungeons (rooms/streets/whatever you want to call them) , or when in areas in which large numbers of different avatars are present. And an educated guess is that most users experience lag due to internet connection speed, not their hardware, since it's likely that few of us are running the kinds of antiquated machines that themselves would cause large lag issues.

My keyboard repeat rate is set far below "high", in fact well below mid range.

I experience no change in the failure after clearing Cache or refreshing Chrome.

The issue is repeatable and inconsistently (ie, randomly) persistent.

The computer, while not brand new, is far less than "whimpy".

I did notice when googling the issue that input doubling is a known problem with some flash app, presumably due to a race condition in the command-active logic. (presumably, because I don't program flash, so I am not versed in its minutia)
