"Thanks for inviting five players!"

I was one of the people who was, shall we say, underwhelmed by the "invite your friends" feat, so it was a pleasant surprise to wake up this morning and see that Tiny Speck has taken a different approach to bringing people into the game.  Look at your credits!  If you've invited people to the game, you get a little bonus now.

  • The Facebook thing gave 25, I didn't see any reward for the failed 'spam your friends and disposable email addresses' quest.

  • I got a reward for someone I invited a long time ago and who became a user, but not for a spammy invite one I did for the quest and didn't activate  - so  it seems like you get rewards for actually achieving something. YAY!

  • It's not for just issuing invites, it's for issuing an invite to someone who then registered an account.

    Also: uh-oh.

  • Benzyl, I don't think it was tied to the feat. I received a few credits this morning based on invitations that I sent last year. I haven't invited anyone since then - not because I don't want to share the joy that is Glitch, it's just that everyone I know who would be at all interested (whether to just check it out or to play) has already done so.

  • I have invited a ton of people (who made accounts and play) and I see no credits.

  • Yeah, sorry I didn't make it clear in my original post:  the credits were not for inviting people during the failed feat (which I refused to take part in).  They were for people I've invited over the course of my year and a half playing Glitch.

For the record, I am not crazy about incentivizing evangelism, but at least this way it's a) not under some kind of artificial time pressure, and b) it encourages people to think more carefully about who will actually sign up to play.  I'm hoping there are further restrictions on giving out credits (the new player must reach a certain level/log a certain number of hours, the new player can't be from your own ISP, etc.).  Maybe staff will be willing to weigh in on this?

  • As a subscirber, I would prefer the credits to go to the person I invited.
That person being the one who signed up eons ago.
I also sent an invite to my husband way back. He played for about 6 months but because he does not play now, I did not have credit for that.
Its all only for live and active accounts now, no matter how much your invitee has played in the time up to this point.

  • I'm in the same boat as Ailera up there.  I've invited quite a few people, many of whom are still playing daily, some are still logging in every once in a while and some gave it a legitimate try before either losing interest or deciding it wasn't for them.  No credits at all.

  • "For the record, I am not crazy about incentivizing evangelism"  OMG, thank you for putting that into terms that made my brain go "That's it exactly what it was! No wonder I didnt like it!"

Thank you, great way to word that Pale Queen!

  • i think TS should just do the republican thing and give everyone 350 currants.  but only if you paid your taxes!

  • I am a little confused (about the live vs inactive accounts bit but.. eh). I was planning on sending in a bug report to ask if there was a mistake but I have decided against it now. Thank you TS for the little surprise gesture. Loads of hugs to everyone at TS who find time to do such nice things, and inadvertently find ways to bring a smile to my face, especially at the end of a long, annoying and unproductive RL day.

P.S. I am against needless restrictions, and am pro generosity.

  • Rewarding for invites is a common practice in many many online games.  Eve has a system that grants you a free month -- and free months are in game items called Plex that can be sold for millions.   Darkfall online gives actual drips of real money.  League of Legends has a complex system with increasing rewards over time, all the way up to a paid trip to the game studio.

I have no problem with this whatsoever.  I would have a problem for punishing for not inviting, but there is nothing wrong with incentives for inviting.

  • Interesting. I got 25 credits for inviting one person, but not any for inviting my sister. She did sign up; but I don't think she ever actually went into the game client and through a tutorial, so that may be it.

At any rate, it's a nice surprise, even though I didn't do it for the credits, but love of the game and company. :) So thanks!

  • I just got my credits for inviting people. I think it's taking awhile for everyone to get them.

  • I got my credits as well - one for five players and one for one.

  • I've invited a few people and they actually play, but I only got credits for one of them... I was surprised by the reward so I'm not complaining, but I'm wondering if I'll end up getting credits for each person I invited.

  • Wait, what happened? Why put restrictions on TS's generosity? I can't imagine what would be wrong with getting rewarded for getting new players from the same ISP... they are a new player none the less... Who cares if they're in the same household if they play everyday? I do understand the lvl cap restriction tho... Just because they accept and make a glitch doesn't mean they'll be a dedicated player.

  • if you want the credits to go the person you invited, just ask them to choose an item they want and gift it to them. Or am I misinformed and this is not possible? Also, I invited 3 people who play semi-regularly, but only got credits for one of them, is this normal?

Yes. If  I understand correctly you get 25 credits for inviting your first new Glitch and 100 for the fifth, but nohing for the invites in between

  • Oh, okay, thanks! I was very curious as to why I only got one for the first person I invited.

  • Odd... Slightly off-topic but the invite system seemed a little wonky:

    I invited 3 persons: A, B, and C.

    - A was invited first and signed up immediately; I didn't get any credits, but did get a mail that said we are getting added to each other's friends list.

    - B was invite last (after C) and signed up second; I got 25 credits for this, but we were not added to each other's friends list nor was there any email.

    - C was invited second (before B) but signed up last; no credits, not added to each other's friends list (nor was there any email) either.
