function for crystals?

I don't know if it's been brought up before, but why not make crystals have a function? It seems like they're only good for donating, presently. If TS wants to take the furniture crafting thing further, I suggest using crystals and metal rods for making chandeliers. OR how about crafting our own light bulbs with fireflies?

Thoughts?

  • Love it.  Brilliant idea.  Would also be a great way to offset the fear of tool vendors going away (with regard to light bulbs).

  • what about crafting light bulbs with a jar of fireflies and say...moly?

  • Aren't Plain Crystals used for repairing stuff also?

  • @Mal'akh Yep, they are. (I forget exactly what, though. Metal rocks and firefly hives? Possibly other things I haven't needed to repair yet.)

I certainly wouldn't be adverse to more uses though. I think I've used my crystalmalizing chamber maybe 3 times since I started playing (in first beta)?

  • Hmm... Crafting a Bulb, yes that would be a good use for a Plain Crystal. Construction Tool of course.

Firefly Hives and Sparkly for sure, forget what others need it.

  • Yeah, this turns up a lot.  Here's a recent discussion about underused resources in the game.  I honestly don't know why they added light bulbs as a vendor-only item -- it seems to go in the completely opposite direction to everything they say they want to do with the Glitch economy.

(Edited to add that crystals are not mentioned in the original post, which is why you may have missed it, but they turn up in the comments.)

  • I think instead of just giving us butlers, we should of had to craft then instead. They would be made from fabric, thread, and a crystal or two to power them.

  • I still think we should be able to craft unopened cubimal boxes.

  • I like the idea of crystalline light bulbs, IE light bulbs made from crystals. But for things to make sense, value wise, I'd have to advocate that each crystal be able to form at least seven light bulbs.

I dunno what other ingredients we'd need. Perhaps 1 crystal + 1 moly equals 10 light bulbs? That seems to make sense from a value in, value out perspective, as well as a light bulb working perspective, since moly is used in electronics ;) Energy costs could be fairly negligible for the action, like 5-25.
