Expand/renovate our homes instead of moving?

As in real life, moving seems like such a pain.

I'm wondering if there's some way to allow home remodelling / expansion as an alternative?

  • Or be able to own more than one place? It would be nice to have the option of a pied-a-terre, or even just a series of lockers spread around the game. Rather than having one base of operations, even if it is expandable.

But it would be nice to be able to organize and sort your stuff in ALL your lockers or homes from whichever one you deem as the primary one.

  • Home remodeling/expansion like a street project. I like it. And maybe it could allow people from the same street to help each other to level up their street.

  • i know stoot has said in game that the house interiors will be fully customizable, at least appearance-wise.

buying a new, larger cabinet seems an obvious extension of that.

the ability to generate your own tree plots out of normal ground [by digging?] also seems like natural outgrowth of soil appreciation skills.

  • +1 to home remodeling and decorating.

or to a skill/item that allows you to move the stuff in your house relatively painlessly.

I especially like the idea of having it similar to a street project but even if its not a community based improvement it could have similar requirements for the individual to meet.

Also owning more than one place and being able to sell remodeled places at a higher price

  • House decorations are definitely on the way. First, new avatar stuff, then houses.

  • (And expansion too — new rooms & floors, making existing ones bigger etc. But, the house stuff will be a while … it will be among the last things we work on in beta.)

  • Home Ownership itself could be worked in as a separate set of skills / quests.

By capping how many rooms can be added to each type of house (small=1, med=2 large=3 perhaps) it would still place a value on the type of house you select and give an incentive to move when you have outgrown your current space. It would be nice to expand the outdoor space a bit, or put a bedroom above the kitchen or living room, or a storage/workshop below.

... or how many total upgrades per house type, to be used between say interior / exterior change, cabinet upgrade, patch addition, trophy case, or add a piece of furniture (small=3, med=5, large=9)... Demolition would be a neat skill as well, so those changes can be undone and redone.

For those in the towers... how about being able to buy the unit next to you and knock out a wall? Perhaps tack on a multiplying 10,000 currant permit to purchase an additional residence (i.e. 2nd unit = price + 10k, 3rd = price + 20k, 4th = price + 40k, 5th = price + 80k) with a reasonable cap on the number of houses. Perhaps a monthly Property Tax as well? Might even make it more interesting by allowing the owners to use them as a Rental Property (for a permit fee of course). Changes could be 'approved' by the landlord and carried out by either one. Could work in all of the housing areas really.

Something a little more functional to do would be nice too... like be able to sit on a sofa (slow increase in energy/mood) or perhaps sleep in a bed. Give us some incentive to go back there. The entire thing might even start a couple different player-driven lines of employment (demolition, building, land owner)!
