Losing Energy

I think part of the losing energy idea is stupid. I don't get why you would lose energy when your just sitting there not moving at all. I agree you lose energy when you move, but I get annoyed when I go AFK and I come back in hell. I'm not saying i'm not going to play if you don't fix it but it is just a little thing in the game that annoys me. Please post if it annoys you too.

  • Don't go AFK for so long that you end up in hell. Close the tab if you're going to be away more than a few minutes.

  • I still find it annoying. Who loses energy why there just standing there?

  • everybody. try it in real life. I bet you can not just stand there for 6 hours with no breaks. (one hour in Glitch = 6 hours in RL)

  • I think the rate of lost energy/mood from doing nothing should be reduced (or eliminated) when you're at home; it'd give house ownership another perk. I think it's fine as is out in the world, though.

  • Kookaburra: I get what your saying, Thanks for making that point.

Little Miss Giggles: Yes, no energy loss at home would be good.

Now that I think it over, There should be a "sit" command or something so that you won't lose energy IF you activate the command. Possibly another skill?

  • Although Kookaburra does provide a good real world example, I think it's pretty pointless for the OP to try and draw a comparison between Glitch and realism.  You're inside the thoughts of multi-eyed, floating Giants where you squeeze grains out of chickens...

That being said, every game needs a mechanism to avoid an imbalance in activity, since we all have lives outside the game world.  Energy is Glitch's mechanism.  You are limited in what you can do on a given day so that people with less free time than you can still be on an equal playing field.

  • I know this is an old post but I just started playing and agree that this is pretty annoying.  I don't really see the point in taking energy away when you just let your character stand there.  Only things I can think of is energy is constantly being lost no matter what you are doing, or they want to penalize players for doing nothing.

  • I understand and agree that it is annoying to have energy being ticked away while you are standing still. However, I think we are going down the wrong reasoning path behind this decision. I don't believe it was implemented in order to balance what a Glitch can do on a certain day (there are plenty of activities that will suck away your energy), but perhaps TS implemented this in in order to prevent areas from being littered with people going AFK. Can you image the number of people who would be constantly AFK in places like N. Neva and A. Bliss?

  • And yet, if TS wants this to be a more social game, how can we possibly be still long enough for a conversation? No, we must rush along to properly use our energy, not sit about gabbing and let it just fritter away for no reason.

I personally would love a sit feature that reduces energy loss so we can have little groups sitting around chatting. I think it would increase the social aspect to the game.

Note, I say reduce, not remove. Energy loss is a fundamental mechanic of the game and I support TS for having it. I just think so much energy loss so quickly, while doing nothing, impedes the social aspect.

  • I think Lemuel could be right, it might be to prevent too many people from littering the maps AFK, but I think there are better ways to do it than penalizing for sitting still.  For instance just disconnecting people after they have been idle and not talking for 5 minutes wouldn't be too hard.  Like Garney is saying, it makes it nearly impossible to justify sitting around and talking to people.

I'm not against limiting what can be done in a day through energy, but it seems like I drain my energy fast enough anyway without having it slowing being drained for doing nothing.  Like the OP said, I'm not sure it is anything that would prevent anyone from continuing to play, it just gives the game a less relaxed feel because people are buzzing around trying to use their energy on something productive instead of letting it go to waste.
