Free for Non-Subscribers -- Interior Design Contest [We Have Winners]

Pinched for pennies?  Cramped for credits?    You could be a Winnah!

Win a Grand Prize or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd runner up prizes for your creative use of free furniture and swatches.  Decorate the interior of your new house using only these options, and win free credit upgrades on your choice of furniture.

Grand prize.  One month Moly subscription  (5 votes, 400 credits, 50 teleport tokens)
1st runner up. 200 credits worth of upgrades to furniture of your choice.
2nd runner up.  100 credits worth of upgrades to furniture of your choice.
3rd runner up.  50 credits worth of upgrades to furniture of your choice.

Here's the deal.  Create your perfect new home using only swatches and upgrades that do not cost credits and are not subscriber only.  Submit your snapshots in this thread, along with a description of the choices you've made, listing both swatches and upgrades shown in the snap.

Our fine judges will create a list of 7 finalists and then will personally visit and chat with the lucky home owners to come up with the Grand Prize winner and three runners-up.

Winners will trade their furniture with specific subscribers who have offered to use their personal credits to upgrade furniture.  You'll have freedom to choose subscriber or non-subscriber upgrades, within the limits of your prize.  Once you've traded, your furniture will be upgraded with your choice of options, and returned to you.

I'd like to thank the anonymous donors who have agreed to help make this contest happen!

Get To Work!  Deadline is 5 pm PDT, Wednesday May 16, 2012.

Edit:
I've had some generous offers that will make the prizes more awesomer.  If you'd like to be a donor, IM me.

Edit 2:  Some questions:
Can subscribers compete?  Yes, as long as the rooms follow the rules.
Can I make more furniture?  Sure, as long as any upgrades are free for non-subscribers.
Can I use items as decorations?  Of course.
Can I use subscriber upgrades if the furniture was given to me?  Nope.  Only free for non-subscriber upgrades can be used.

Edit 3:  New Grand Prize!  One month Moly subscription.  New runner up category. All runner-up prizes increased!

Edit 4:  The contest is now closed.  The lovely donors will be rolling dice, squinching up their eyes and otherwise employing pseudo-scientific methods for coming to conclusions.  We hope to announce our Winners on Saturday.

Edit 5:  We Have Winners

Without actually resorting to rolling dice, we've finally come to agreement about awarding the prizes.  Here are the folks who impressed the judges with their creativity and imagination!

  • @Pot, submissions will be accepted up until 5 PM Pacific Time, which is 8 PM Eastern Time. So you have a few more hours!

@NightDraconis, I went back to redownload your submission and it shows a smaller portion of your house than the original one. Is this your intent? If so, that's fine. If not, rather than going back and editing your original post, would you be so kind as to zoom out and take a new picture and add a new reply to this thread? Thanks!
Posted 7 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Again, just a reminder, if at all possible please zoom out before taking your snap. I'm not sure why some of you are only able to zoom out just a little bit (maybe it's related to the browser you're using?), but the fewer partial snaps I have to cut and paste together, the better! Thanks again.

  • 1. Thanks for the contest, it pushed me to do something
    2. Thanks to Rosty for the original "cubimal vignettes" he put in my Andra house as a gift. I've merely moved them.
    3. Thanks to Oristia for the inspiration for Firefly Jars way back when I was wee glitch and to Spaztastic for collecting and decorating my place with them many many months ago.
    4. and mostly thanks to Lissam who did the heavy lifting for this decoration! I was overwhelmed by this and wow, I'm very happy with how this house turned out.

  • First when the reset happened I was a bit sad because I wouldn't be able to have all that amazing furniture and swatches I used to have on testing, but then I started making sdbs, organizing my hoard and I realized I could actually work with a lot of the free great options they gave us.

And I have to say I love the result. It feels very homey, it doesn't feel in anyway for me like it's a 'free' home anymore. Just feels like home!

Middle of the 1st floor. It's kind of a closet/storage with the things I like the most, and also a space for some of my herbs, essences and lots of Fertilidust, paper, and a camera so I can take amazing pictures of great times.

I like to use rugs cause it gives me the sensation of warm and cozy.

I also love it so much cause is a place where I can sit on the pretty comfy benches and just stare at all those pretty things.

    Furniture used:

    2x Wood top counter
    3x Rug/Plain Rug
    2x White Modern Box Bench
    28x Simply White SDBs

    Pantry/Kitchen

It's like a pantry/ kitchen, it would be a better kitchen if we had faucets, sink, stove, etc, so it feels more like a warm cozy pantry for me. Though the black cabinet could be considered as a fridge! <3

    Furniture used:

13x  Black and White Striped SDBs
    Fluorescent Ceiling Lamp
    2x Wood Wall Shelf
    Alakol Willow Plant

    *~~Third Floor~~*

The third floor is where all the fun can happen, it's a party space and also a a place where you can rest very well and also entertain a lot.

On the right we have the Play Room:

The play room is where I can play, show off my beautiful toys, share some drinks with friends, sit and enjoy the view, gossip and I also decided to add a bed there so it would be a possible to jump a lot on it and even have lots of pillow fights!

This bed is comfy and strong, so it's recommended for jumping on it and also for a great night of sleep, but here we focus more on jumping. And you can notice the FunPicle is waiting for you in one of the orange armchairs. You can be sure you'll not leave until you had lots of fun, cause with a funpickle on the room the fun can't ever stop!

Last but not least the bedroom:

The bedroom is a calm place to rest and have a great night of sleep especially when you had a tiring day working. I sleep with a bear by my side. He is cute, chubby and fluffy. Also my bedroom is a great place to read.

  • The contest is now closed.  Thanks for all your submissions!

The donors will be judging all the homes and trying to come to an agreement about most awesome use of limited materials.  Give us some time, since we live in different time zones, and may have to take a few days to get everyone in agreement.

I'm hoping to announce the winners Saturday evening.
Posted 7 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm not clear, will you be basing it on the photos or an actual visit? My decorating fingers are getting itchy and I'd love to make some changes. Just want to know if I should wait till Saturday or not.
Posted 7 months ago by SkyWaitress Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Both, it seems! The original post says the judges will use the pictures to pick seven finalists, and then they'll visit the finalists homes personally. Maybe waiting would be best.
Posted 7 months ago by Csophae Subscriber! | Permalink
  • maybe each judge put scores on each submission and whoever got most scores win?
Posted 7 months ago by rosedragon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Csophae is correct.

We need to first whittle down these 52 contestants to 7,  and then do a walk-through of the house.  Patience SkyWaitress.

  • If anyone is interested in seeing all the submissions at once, feel free to check out this temporary thing I threw together this morning:

    blitchmountain.blogspot.com...

Kind of neat to see them next to each other, huh?
Posted 7 months ago by Sirentist Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That is neat! But  I noticed that when the image is hosted on the blogspot it looses quality, is this going to matter for the choosing? Cause since the image lost detail and is blurry then you can't see well as when it was hosted on the original links here on glitch? *blushes*
Posted 7 months ago by Lila Clemenceau Subscriber! | Permalink
  • We have the original links to the official Glitch snaps and that's what we'll likely use when things get narrowed down more. Mostly I just wanted to put up a fast-loading way for people to be able to see the various submissions without having to click back and forth. Some houses were so large I had to do a bit of image compression in order to have the page load quickly! The degradation you see is from that, not from being hosted on Blogspot, I don't think. But yeah, no worries; this isn't meant to be the official image database.

  • Hee! Thank you for your patience. At the moment, we're hard at work trying to narrow down the finalists, and the submissions are so great it's not an easy task. Thanks for putting in all the thought and time to create such lovely entries!

And before we wrap this up and announce the winners, I just want to give a shout-out to all the participants here. When WindBorn and I first talked about this contest idea a week ago, I knew people would come up with beautiful spaces, but wasn't expecting the variety and creativity and, sometimes, outright hilarity. I've been amazed at what you all have managed to do with such limited options. You guys are awesome.

  • I'm fascinated by this list of choices. Am I correct in thinking that none of us winners chose any of the same item upgrades? Interesting...

  • That's true foolbunny.  The duplicates on the list are a single winner asking for multiple Identical items.

  • Congratulations to the winners!
FyodorD... I think your house is the coolest ever, but then I won a mention in the decorating contest of a facebook game with a junkyard theme :)

  • I've redone my place to include my Upgrade Prizes and a gift (blooming wall moss) from a new friend!

My place before & after :)

I changed my bed cause I prefer the blue free to the log cabin free and altered some things (also, added the cranes that weren't an option originally - so cool).

The upgrades I chose are the Glowing Stars Ceiling Lamps (3 in place now - saving one for when I eventually expand sideways a little), The Sun Wall Lamp, the Hanging Fish Mobile, the Green Apple SDB's and the Dutch Modern Small Cabinet.

I LOVE my new place :)

Thanks again! This was so much fun!

  • After much trial and error, here is the result of the my newly remodeled home.  It is still work in progress; however, this is it for now until I get more credits (it's surprising how fast they get spent).

So I improvised a bit with free stuff...

  • @Ari Cloud: Your link doesn't work for me. Clicking on it brings up nothing (not even an error). :(
