I resigned my WoW guild leadership because I love Glitch so much :D

I've been playing World of Warcraft for...years. Almost since the beginning, in fact. I just started playing Glitch this past week and I think I found what I've been looking for in this game. Glitch is fun to play but it's so easy to walk away from it, too... I really hope this game is successful. I haven't shut down my WoW account but I am seriously contemplating doing it in the next few days. My guild in WoW is a very small, family oriented guild and I'm trying to seduce them to come here because I think that what I would miss if I completely gave up WoW is the chance to catch up with my friends online for a little while each day. We used to all live in the same city but now we're spread all over the country and WoW guild chat is how we keep in touch.

I want to toss out a thank you to all the Glitch players who patiently answered questions for me this week, and who generously donated small food and other items to me. I love the friendliness and non-competitive nature of the players I've met so far!

Has anyone else ditched their other mmo's for Glitch? I've poked around in the forums and I've seen a few mentions of similar circumstances, but not in the recent past.

  • I still play a couple of MMOs. Mostly DDO, but I also play CoH and Runescape. I shuffle between the 4 when I can.

  • I had come off of RIFT for a while before Glitch, so it settled nicely into the empty space in my life where the MMO de jour usually sat.

  • I have not had much desire to play guild wars since I've been playing glitch.  I still go on vent to talk to the old gang.  Most of them have gone back to ever quest.

  • I rarely ditch one game for another- I shuffle them around to suit my gaming needs. I play other games while Glitch is down and Glitch when it's open.

Oh the hardships of the unemployed.

  • Wow, that is totally awesome, SuziMio :). Welcome to Glitch--it is indeed a unique and wonderful place to be, and a great place to keep in touch with friends, from my personal experience.

I haven't had exactly the same experience as you, but yours does touch a nerve on my own experience: I played Faunasphere before this (like alot of people on Glitch right now), which at the time I thought was the most awesome online game of all time. That game closed down because it wasn't making enough profit for the people that owned it (after less than 2 years of trying it out), which broke the hearts of many Faunasphere ("FS") addicts like me. We got 1 month's notice before it closed down for good, during which time many players went on a desperate search to find a suitable alternative. Glitch was one of the possibilities that popped up, and many of us signed up as alpha testers. Since then, we have all switched from being FS addicts to Glitch addicts, and many (including me) have said that we are actually kind of glad that FS closed down or we would have never found this game.

Also, I used to play single-player downloadable casual games alot (Big Fish Games... OK, they're the ones that canceled FS), but since starting Glitch all other games I try seem so pointless in comparison, so it's hard to play anything else.... so... I haunt the forums and wait for it to come back on.... ack, maybe you should stop now before it consumes your life.....

  • So glad you decided to take the leap! I keep singing the praises of Glitch to all who will listen (and a few who won't), and finally somebody heard me... welcome to the game, girlfriend!

  • I resigned, and then I closed my WoW account. Next on my closing hit list: Rift.

  • It's incredible that this game is already appealing enough to make changes like this, even when it's not available 24/7 yet!  Personally, I'll wait until that happens before I decide where to spend my online time.

Then again, I only just started my Glitch adventure when it closed... I think I'm level 5, so still have a lot to learn, understand and explore.

  • I've just resigned from my kin I co-founded in LOTRO over 4 years ago, because now I play Glitch.  As a lifer in LOTRO I won't close my account though :)

  • Aww, so nice to come back to the forums today and find so many replies! I'm looking forward to the game starting back up again soon. Personally, the fact that it is not available 24/7 is not a big deal. That's actually one of the minuses about World of Warcraft! I've gone through phases after expansions and release of new content in patches where I've played far too much in one sitting. Lilith- thanks again for the invitation. I love seeing you online! :)

  • I'm a lifetimer in LOTRO too and in the last month I've only logged in to pay my rent :)
I was tempted to go back to CoH now it's going f2p but since I discovered Glitch I'm putting it off for a while. Which I hope will be a loooong while   :)

  • I've not played LotRO or WoW much in several months, but it was not due to Glitch so much as just taking a break because I am going through one of my phases of not being interested in playing either game much. I'll probably go through similar phases with Glitch once it is 24/7. I still enjoy both games for various reasons and am not likely to entirely quit them forever (until they go defunct or something).

I love WoW because of the guild and friends I made there, and I often feel a little guilty for not logging on at least once a week to chat for a few minutes (just to keep in touch); I also enjoy some of the quirkiness and humor and exploring the world. My guild is small and casual- and I've never been the hard-core raiding type. I actually prefer only doing smaller dungeons with people I know from my guild rather than try to do huge raids with lots of people. That is if I do something that requires a group.

I love LotRO for delving into Tolkien's world so beautifully. I do run a kinship there, but it is just for some close friends (that I have contact with outside of the game), not for anything more than casual play. Actually, I should work on decorating the kinship house I got for us a couple of weeks ago. Hmm... I do think Glitch distracted me from that, since Glitch is only up for short test periods, so I try to make the most of it with my free gaming time.

I like killing things in both of those games some (the evil, creepy creatures- not the fluffy bunnies and bears), because I think it's fun to use the spells and weapons and further a storyline, but it's never been my main motivation for such games, and I don't like PvP much. Every extremely rare once in a while, I'll go on a battleground PvP stint in WoW and enjoy it for the lulz. I've not tried the Monster Play on LotRO.

I guess I mainly enjoy exploring, creating, and generally becoming immersed in the worlds and stories of whatever games I play, whether text based or graphically based.

  • Glitch also appeals to my crafter/farmer side. In other games I've been taken fun of because i can go mining for hours on end or run around for a whole day collecting flowers and roots without getting bored. Here it's actually a cool thing to do. :-D
