How unclickable! :P

+1 for Rook :)

How embarrassing! :)
Thanks Rook.

Cool! Is it gonna get longer, scale-wise, as it is up, or will it always just look back a week or so? I'd love to see some stats on, say, fluctuations in herbs in the past month or so.
-
Edit: Yes :)
So far, there is no data culling at all, so it will keep everything, forever.
I will have to implement something to deal with frequently sold items however. Already the "Meat" chart can really slow your browser down, because there are so many data points.
As a first step, I might just render the "last 1000 auctions" or something like that. Then, infrequent items will have deep history, and meat won't crash your browser.
-
Thanks- super useful.. I'm keen to track items over a series of 24hr cycles to see if there's a sweet-spot to do my selling...
All of the currants will be MINE!

It looks like some people are coming to the site on their iPhones/iPads, which I didn't prepare for.
Does the site work for you iOS based glitchen? (I don't have an iOS device to test with).
-
Both stock browser and "Dolphin Browser HD" v7.2.1 on Android 2.3 on Motorola Droid 2 Global show a blank screen after selecting an item instead of showing a graph. Send me mail if you need help testing on these browsers.
-
Thanks Crag. I have a Samsung GS2 and it won't render the charts either.
To be honest, I didn't even consider mobile browsers until I noticed iOS in the logs. Guess I'm old-fashioned :)
Thanks so much for the testing offer. I should be able to cover it with my Samsung, though I'm temped to just not support mobile. Hmm...

It seems that the charts I'm using (Highcharts) don't work on Gingerbread, but do work on most everything else.

I want my Ice Cream Sandwich!
-
Yes, when CyanogenMod 9 is done, I will finally have a reason to root my phone.
I don't think there's much need to support mobile browsers. Are people going to check the history of teal-white triangle key prices while riding public transit? You might want to put up a "your browser not currently supported" message if you can accurately detect such cases, though.
-
I hope that's OK, but of course it's not up to me, it's up to the customers.
It should be easy to politely decline Gingerbread users (the user-agent is obvious).
Anyway, this is turning into a thread for developers... oops. :) Thanks again for your input Crag.
Everyone else, I hope you'll find the site useful (if you're not using a geeky Android phone like me and Crag). ;)

It looks like the graph is showing asking prices rather than sale prices. Any possibility of getting indications of which auctions sold, which expired (or were canceled) and which are still pending? (Kinda like Zog's graphs before he ran out of money for hosting.)
-
For the data points shown.is that the lowest at that moment? Why are there no decimal points? Like for butterfly milk...
Also....thank you for doing this!
-
1) what crag said above: indicate sold vs expired auctions please! :)
2) tried some random searches, found that 'barnacle talc' is apparently missing from the database. ('barnacle' only gives mortar barnacles, and 'talc' returns a not found.) there may be others; my check was far from comprehensive.

Can't wait for it to work correctly on the iPad. 2 thumbs up
-
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm back from a break now and ready to work on the site.
Very busy items (like meat) are now handled better. All items now plot daily averages as well as the most recent 500 individual auctions. You can turn the two lines on and off by clicking on the legend at the bottom.
Now to requests: :)
Sold vs. Cancelled vs. Expired: This seem popular, so I'll try to cook something up. Sadly, Tiny Speck don't say for sure what's Sold and what's Cancelled, so I'll have to guess. I'm wary of guessing anything because I don't want to "invent" data. But... it _is_ a popular idea so I'll hit the drawing-board.
Decimal points: Fixed. All numbers are rounded to 1 decimal place now (like glitch.com).
The Mystery of the Missing Barnacle Talc: Very curious! Thanks for the report. I'll have to see what's strange about talc (apart from being made of barnacles).
iPad Support: It doesn't work? Darn. HighCharts claims to work on Safari Mobile I thought. Please send any devices you would like supported to my home address (Melbourne, Aus) for testing. Thanks!
-
Barnacle Talc is now fixed.
ecurnomics.com/prices_for_item/barnacle_talc
Investigating this also showed that my sampling rate was too low, so some auctions were getting left out. Thanks for the excellent bug spotting Lorikeet! You, as they say, are "teh roxor".
ps. (For the code-curious, the description of Barnacle Talc contains the Unicode character 0x2026 "Horizontal Ellipsis", which MySQL was not enjoying).

Sorry Metra, I missed your question:
"For the data points shown.is that the lowest at that moment?"
No, sorry. Each point represents an auction directly, at the time of listing. Right now, Ecurnomics only knows the prices of auctions and the time they were listed.
It was misleading to plot the prices as a line graph. They should technically be a scatter plot (which they are now).
-
Nice set of info. Like you say, the API doesn't provide a way to get sell prices, and there doesn't seem to be any easy way around it. Anyway... The search box works, but I'd personally be happier with a category/graphical interface so I can browse...
Volume might be nice as well, even low/medium/high demand.
-
Yes, browsing would be nice.
I tried to make the URL scheme very simple ("/prices_for_item/meat"), so that people can make links and directories easily.
-
Just uploaded a quick patch:
For now, you can get a full (uncategorised) list of items at:
http://ecurnomics.com/items/
I'll add categories soon.
Can you tell me more about the volume info you'd like to see? Do you mean the number of units sold per day (or hour)?
-
You can now get the full item list by clicking search without typing anything.
-
This is wonderful! Thanks!!
-
Hi Kali. This is really fantastic, but I think I may see a data problem. If you want to contact me in game I'm happy to discuss. Great work!
-Koftun
-
Thanks Glitches, glad you like it.
Koftun: I'll try to catch up with you in game. Feel free to describe your issue here though if you'd prefer. All software has bugs, I'm not ashamed :). Thanks for your help.
-
That bug is now fixed. Thanks Koftun!
(Koftun requested discretion about the nature of the bug, for Glitchy Business reasons).

Keep up the good work, Kali. By volume, yes I meant units sold. If you look at auctions for Awesome Pots, you can almost count the auctions (low volume), but Awesome stews, on the other hand... And, like you say, Meats are off the scale.
When deciding what to produce for auction it is helpful to not only know what going prices are, but also how likely a given item is to sell. If there are 10 stacks of stews at cheaper than average, that's no big deal. 10 pots, means I need to go lower, and then I need to decide where my time and energy are best spent.
The other thing I'd like to see, and I don't know if this is possible with your graphing system, is for some one of these apps to show the baseline price, the price where the Cebarkul vultures will grab and sell (i.e. less than 80% of base price or whatever it is.) Yeah, I can figure that out, but it'd be nice to see it so I don't have to do the math every time I sell something.
I basically love this, so don't think I'm complaining, just input. Use it as you will. I use a lot of these apps and this is doing something special, so definitely concentrate on that.

No problem at all. Ecurnomics has become a meta-game around Glitch for me and requests from you guys are the "quests". I'm chuffed that it's getting used.
There's a line plotted for the Tool Vendor's buy price now. (It's not obvious, but you can turn plot lines on and off by clicking them in the legend).
Individual auctions are also transparent now, so that when there's a lot of them you can see the density. Still not proper volume info, but I need to think about that one for a while...
-
Sweet. It's really interesting to see how, for instance, essence of purple has fared against that baseline. There is a significant oscillation in the price that is slowly damping. Economics in action. In a very real way the tool vendor price represents price supports. Just a really interesting app. Thanks for your work!
-
Hi Kali,
Just dropping a note for you here on iPad support. Your website is workable and able to be viewed on iPads. Just use a remote flash rendering app like iSwifter and it works like a charm.
-
Thanks Digimerc. I'm not familliar with iSwifter. Does it do things other than Flash?
Ecurnomics doesn't have any Flash content. Colour me confused :)
-
Thank you for including the baseline vendor prices!
-
You are most welcome :)
My BFF and chief tester mince pointed out that I was calculating the Tool Vendor price to one decimal place, but the Tool Vendors round to the nearest currant. That's fixed in Ecurnomics now.
Everyone: thanks for pointing out the anomalies you see. It helps _so_ much.
-
Hi again Kali,
If Highcharts is not flash based, then that's cool. Not sure why it's not working from iPads then. The iSwifter app is just channeling a Firefox browser running from linux over to the device, so yeah I know it works because I tried it. It handles most things, but notably not Shockwave or MS Silverlight (not linux supported).
