Profile should also mention old name after a name change

Occasionally I notice new people in my friends list... people I've never heard of before and certainly don't remember ever friending. What the heck's happening? Has my friends list been hacked? Are they going to spam me with offers of in-game viagra? Is the world trying to convince me that I'm going mad? Am I actually going mad?

I'm 100% (well, OK, 99%) sure that the cause of the confusion is people changing their name. Suddenly an old familiar name vanishes and a new weird-as-hell name appears with no warning and no explanation. But now I have to search their profile and my friends list to try and work out who they used to be.

I understand that maybe a player wants to distance themselves from their old name but I think it would be fairer for everybody else if their profile gave us a clue as to what's going on. Maybe for a couple of weeks after the name change it lists their new name and also something like "The Glitch formally known as Snazzlefraz"

Thoughts?

  • Yes! This should be happening already and it just slipped off some list. We'll make it happen.

  • My trick is to bookmark your friends' profile. First, rename it to "PHVO4S63P8523E6 | Milolin." Second, when I visit the bookmark and discover that Milolin is no longer exist but with a new name. Third, let's say Milolin changed his name to Stealth, I would rename bookmark to "PHVO4S63P8523E6 | Milolin -> Stealth."

I know it's not effective when you have a lot of friends but I have a "whitelist" folder and "blacklist" folder. I put my rl friends and good friends by getting to know each other in the "whitelist" folder. For those who a griefer, a spammer, or whatever that they are annoying or not appropriate action toward players, I would put them in my "blacklist" folder. Rest of friends on my list are not bother to add my bookmark list.

However, what Stoot said recently, now I can't wait to remove my white/black list folder. :)

  • Can we have an option to not have it displayed on our profiles? I mean, what if someone wants to start with a clean slate but keep their levels and junk and they just want to remove all of their friends, and groups, etc. -- and they've never posted in the forums -- and they just want to start with a new identity? Lol

  • Thanks Stoot - I tried to let everyone know in the forums when I was changing my name and tried to keep it similar to the old one (both MiddleAged and MisAdventure remain MA) but every now and then I come across a friend who did not know.  :)
