New Quest: The Minus

Who is The Minus?

The Minus was one of the very first Glitches ever imagined by the Giants. No one remembers the Minus's real name, but some Bubble Trees think it's Pat. The Minus was a very industrious little Glitch who loved, and continues to love, imagination. He partook in all manner of activities to increase his imagination at the cost of his mood. Eventually, his mood became so foul that he stopped receiving imagination altogether. He found it inconvenient to take breaks from his activities to increase his mood, and instead decided to acquire imagination the old fashioned way: stealing it from other Glitches.

This proved to be altogether too efficient for the Minus, and once he started he couldn't stop. After sapping all the imagination from a poor, unsuspecting Glitch the Minus would then proceed to steal his victims's shinies. After acquiring quite a treasure hoard he built a large Castle and recruited a band of minions to protect it.

While the Minus is an antagonist he is not a villain on par with the Rooks. The Minus loves imagination and the world of Ur, he is just morally ambiguous.

The Quest:
Brave players can venture forth to seek and find the Minus's Lair. The entrance to his castle is locked, and requires a key to enter. The key can be found by harvesting resources in the areas around the Castle Entrance Map.

The Castle itself is 1 to 10 "maps" long, with the Minus residing in Map 10.

In each map, or room, the player encounters Minus Minions. The Minions behave similarly to JuJu's Bandits in the Ancestral Lands. However, instead of stealing items, they steal a percentage of the player's active Imagination. The minions can be dodged and jumped over and can be stunned if the player performs an action to increase the minion's mood, such as Kissing, High Five-ing, Hugging, Random Kindness, etc. A Stunned minion ceases to move for 10-30 seconds.

In addition to the Minions, each room contains quoins. Except these quoins are colored red and do not add Img, Energy, and Currants but subtract these resources from the player. These quoins can be avoided and dodged in the same manner as regular quoins. They have a default value of -1 which is increased based on an individual player's quoin multiplier.

As the player goes further into the castle, each consecutive room will have a higher number of Minions.

Meeting the Minus:
In Room 10, the final room, the Players meet the Minus. The Minus, like his minions, can steal Imagination from the player. In addition, he can also steal energy, mood, and currants - but iMG is his favorite resource to snack on.

The Players "defeat" the Minus by increasing his mood. He has a default Mood of 0. Players must increase his mood to its cap, which can be anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 depending on the level range of players this quest will be intended for. Players can increase his mood using any mood-boosting action, just as with his minions.

Once the Minus's mood reaches its cap, he stops trying to steal resources from the players. He apologizes for his actions and says he needs to think about what he has done, and retreats from the room. It turns out he was just in a bad mood and needed some cheering up, because as we all know friendship is magic.

After the Minus Departs, one piece of the Minus's Treasure Hoard is given to the player.

Losing:
No Challenge = No Fun

If a Glitch runs out of energy and dies at any stage in the Minus's Castle, they are transported to Hell, and will need a new key to enter the Castle.

A Glitch cannot prevent iMG and Currant loss by entering the Castle with 0 Currants and 0 active iMG. If the Minus, one of his Minions, or a Minus Quoin tries to zap a player and steal a resource, and the result of that action results in a zero or lower of the player's remaining iMG, Energy, Mood, or Currants the player is automatically kicked out of the Castle and will need a new key to enter.

  • I like this idea. And I guess it wouldn't be easily soloable, unless you had lots of time and really good dodging skills.

  • It would be fun as a two-player quest too.

  • It doesn't have to be a 1-person quest. You can bring in as many Glitches with you as you like. The mechanic would be the same as going into any Seam Street, as long as other Glitches "follow" you in they should be fine.

Of course, you could try to solo it, if you were very brave and able :)
