Questions: badges and your own yard

Hoping to clear up a few things regarding badges and working in your own yard, since I have heard that tending your own patches in your yard does not count toward tending badges.  I got suspicious about other actions, so I would love some authoritative answers.

1) Q: Does tending patches in your yard count towards tending badges?

2) Q: Does planting trees in your own patches count towards planting badges?

3) Q: Does clearing a tree in your yard count towards hatchet/clearing badges?

4) Q: Does the "harvest and clear" option for a wood tree count towards hatchet/clearing badges?  (Anywhere, not just yard.)

Edit: in case anyone doesn't know, by "badges", I mean the achievements, not the quests.  Things like http://beta.glitch.com/achievements/betterthanaverage-mulcher/

  • I know from experience that 1 and 2 are definitely "yes."

  • Aethios, have you only done it in your yard and that's how you know, or did you just keep careful notes?

  • I have never tended a patch anywhere except my own home.  So any badges I've received have been from that activity.
Same thing for planting trees and clearing trees.

  • @ windborn: Never?!  How do you resist the temptation?

But thanks for the input.  You definitely do have some of the badges?  (Easy to check if you are using the achievement checker, but I know not everyone is.)

  • I keep my hoe in my Seed bag, which sits next to my garden.  I only carry a watering can around with me.

I'm pretty sure I have badges.  Or else I have completed quests.  Something happened that gave me lovely splash screens.

  • @WindBorn - You do have the mulcher badge ( beta.glitch.com/achievement... ), so the answer to 1 must be yes.

  • It counts. My yard is where I achieved a few quests and got a badge for collecting all fruit types. Definitely counts!

  • Anybody know about the wood trees?

  • LL, meaning can you complete a quest or badge involving a wood tree with a wood tree grown in your own yard?  Yes.  You can.

  • I mean specifically the question #4.  Does "harvest and clear" for a wood tree count the same as "clear" for another type of tree, at least with regards to the hatchet badges?  It's so much easier to get a nearly dead wood tree that I would not be surprised if it doesn't count.

  • @ghost:  So, one thing is telling jokes, what's the other?  :)

  • I am not sure about #4 because I assume the hatchet is needed for clearing to count. Trees planted in your backyard only need to be seedlings, apply the poison and voila you get a big dead tree! Try it. It counts.

  • @ larky lion.yea other is playing Glitch.and the other is very private.lol

  • Yeah, I've done that too, padme, but I like it better with no poison.

I want to say that "harvest and clear" has a hatchet animation, so maybe it's fine?

  • Because wood trees were added later and since the harvest and clear action is on a bit of a different level than chopping dead trees... I am guessing it might NOT be included. (For a similar reasons that wood trees were not affected by fertidust.)

  • I think all of those count.  I do not have the "Nouveau Whack Job" badge for clearing 11 dead trees.  I don't think I have yet cleared 11 dead trees but am close to it.  I have cleared 8 in my yard and at least one out on a street.  I hate killing trees and have only done it for quests and only done it on purpose in my own yard.  This test I accidentally cleared a wood tree when I only meant to harvest so I replanted it and fertilized it.  That was at Feman Falters.  Later when I returned it was gone and a bean tree planted.

Wood trees work differently from others.  Unless there has been a change, they do not count toward tree planting quests (hope that has been changed).  They do not grow much.  I thought that was due to constant harvesting and clearing so I planted one in my yard.  Fertilizer seems to have little effect but does work (didn't used to) but still, it is a waste of fertilizer if used beyond the second level of the tree.  It will not grow higher and will produce only two "branches".

  • Fertilidust lite definitely works on wood trees now.  I used it when I needed a super harvest on a wood tree; grew the tree up to full size with 5 or fewer doses (two segments with two branches each, at least I think that is full size).

  • @larky lion: Yes. I received a quest to tend 7 patches and did all 7 exclusively in my own backyard. I also had a quest to plant 2 "seasoned beans" and I did both of those in my own backyard as well.
