Orly? Wood trees just got better...

Well, now we can expect to see more wood trees, but the only problem would be that they are still vulnerable to poison...yet this feature helps even the playing field. By a lot.

  • I think fewer people will go to the trouble of poisoning them than those that would just harvest and clear without thinking about it, so I think it'll work out really well. Of course there will always be people that will do the poisoning, for whatever reasons they may have, but at least now they aren't left to be cleared away by the uninformed so easily, so more should stick around than in the past.

    It also seems that the number of planks you get depends on how close they are to full health, too. I'm not 100% on it, but judging by a couple I harvested (after duly petting and watering), that had just a branch or two past the trunk only gave me 2 planks, whereas some that were closer to full health gave me like 40. There was one that I think must have been at full health that gave me 60 (it said its wood was bursting or some-such). It looks possible that their care will be encouraged that way as well. If it was like that before, the lowest number certainly wasn't ever two. I suppose the differences in planks offered could just be RNG, though.

    I really like the changes, however small or large they were. :)

  • Quick note based on the previous post. Harvest is DEFINITELY based on health of tree. Four branched tree pre-tweak gave 120 planks, a one branch tree gave 40 or 50. This is based on Gardening V I believe? It's definitely improved with more health though.

  • This change does not sound good to me as I do not plant or harvest wood trees outside of my house where they are vulnerable to clearing. One thing I am concerned is now that I have to pet and water the darn tree even more to get the tree to grow up and one chop will still take the tree down by one plank.

  • Does this effect the "Super Secret Happy Bonus Tree Harvest" quest? It's been a tough one to complete with the wood tree remaining to be max harvested. Sounds like it may have gotten even harder.

  • try using fertilidust powder, and pet and water your trees, it should go up to like 3-4 levels.

  • I can confirm that one chop does not take down one plank (as I just harvested several of the trees before my last post and noted this phenomenon). It probably takes 2 or 3 chops to take it down a full plank, at least, and you can still just harvest it once a day, so that should not be a concern.

    And it should make the super harvest quest for the tree easier, not harder. The tree doesn't have to be at max health to get a super harvest from it.

    ETA: I think any wood trees of any design I've ever seen have only had about 4 branches total.

  • • Macs: Fertidust. Wood trees and fertidust go so great together.

    • As someone who is on a continuous wood tree orchard plant project (Hi, Besera!), these changes excite me. Pre-tweaks a far of side street of three to four wood trees would last, on average, 4 game hours if not constantly fertidusted. So maybe 40 minutes real time.

    • Quick test - First change noticed: A full grown tree now gives 80 as opposed to 120 planks, but does not remove a branch. No idea how many harvest this means you can get from a tree.... about to do full scale test in Besera.

    1) What does this mean?!

  • If the justification for not being able to harvest twice from a wood tree previously was so that it wouldn't be brought down 2 levels of health by a single glitch, would it be possible to allow double harvests in a day from wood trees now that they aren't brought down a level in 1 harvest?

  • Measely, wood trees have had had the available harvests doubled to 12 (although it still only takes 5 Fertidust sprinkles to go from the smallest stump to full growth). If you were to allow 2 harvests... we'd be back at the same problem or even a full grown wood tree being gone in 6 whacks.

  • Are people such energy conservationists that they refuse to pet a tree back to health after they chop?  I planted a Wood tree in a public street in Bortola last night and come to find it was replaced by a Fruit tree (like they're in short supply or something).  I'd hate to think it was just deliberately poisoned off, so I can't help but wonder if 12 glitchen chopped and didn't bother to tend.

  • Has anyone yet figured out how the group nurturing works?

    @Joojoo - I don't know how wood trees work now, but the problem previously was that a wood tree often could not be watered or petted back to health.  So it would keep being harvested until it was down to the "harvest and clear" stage.  At that point, it was vulnerable to being wiped out by someone on a quest who didn't understand the full meaning of "harvest and clear."  Regular application of fertilidust could bring the tree back to health, but most players don't know about that, and even that might not be enough on a busy game day with lots of people showing up at one time intent on harvesting the sole wood tree in an area.
