Energy woes

Hello all. I am really enjoying playing around in this neat game. But it feels like I can't really get enough energy to get the most out of it. I'm level 10 and have died a couple of times already while trying to grind stuff or whatever. Seems like I can only play for about an hour or so before I have to sign off from lack of energy. Even used up my meditation trying to stay afloat. Any suggestions besides the typical meat gathering etc.? Is this going to be one of those freemium games that requires you to buy special items to boost energy/mood to progress? Thanks!

  • Nibble a pig every chance you get! And with higher Animal Kinship skills, it won't take as much energy to nibble and you'll get more meat :)

Also, take advantage of the New Day fill-up of energy/mood that occurs every 24 game hours (or 4 RL hours).

  • Nibbling piggies is the only thing I use for energy (now I use meat from my meat collectors).

  • Hi Bib! Yes, keeping up energy/mood is one of the biggest challenges at the lower levels. Yes, nibbling piggies is one way of keeping energy up, as well as eating anything and everything I harvested: beans, grain, planks, bubbles etc. The only way I could keep mood up was by drinking lots of beer and butterfly milk. Eventually you will be able to cook up dishes and make juices. Stay the course. It does get better and your energy tank will grow as you level up.

  • Worst case scenario, you can ask people in global chat to send you food if you're close to dying and don't want to. However, there are achievements for dying so even that has an in-game benefit XD

  • Have you tried running around in the ancestral regions (Baqala, Xalanga, Choru, Zhambu)? There are quoins there that are worth hundreds of energy/mood points, XP, etc. It may be a trek from wherever you are now, but it's pretty easy to fill up your tank there.

  • Invest in cooking, animal, and tree tending skills before you keep going with mining, refining, etc. Then you'll get more for your energy spent harvesting.

  • You are probably going to have to shift between mining and gathering food... or spend a lot more of your mining money in food. Until you past the hump.

  • Cooking and animal kindships the easiest way to start. Fried noodles is an excellent dish for poor students! ;)

  • my favorite foods to eat when i was at lower levels were hash and messy fry-ups.

  • I ate mainly meat, cherries, planks and eggs during those early impoverished days. It saw me through...

  • I remember that I was in the same situation as you, Bib. I alway asked myself how to get enough energy and - what seemed nearly impossible to me - currants... (Here's the thread I wrote in my despair)
But I tell you - be patient, and soon, when you learn more skills and found your way in glitch, everything will be much easier!

What annoys me most of all when I think of THE RESET is the thing with the butterflies - buy lotion, catch one of those flattering things, massage it, then find the one you massaged between his brothers and sisters - only to get a bit of milk! (It's so much easier later, when you have higher animal kinship skills - you can just click on a butterfly and you get the milk!)
So - BE PATIENT! We'll all have to be patient, once THE RESET has taken place....

  • Gather lots of quoins.  When i was in your place, I spent a lot of time in Groddle Forest and Groddle Meadows  collecting quoins.  Once I reached my daily limit, I quit playing for a bit.  When i returned it was a new Day and everything was replinished.

  • Definitely go for the Animal Kinship skills first. I'm maxed out on them and I get 4 meat per nibble (two nibbles per pig, per day), 10 grain per squeeze (three squeezes per chicken per day), and like... I can't remember, I think it's 8 milks per milking (two milkings per butterfly).

And, of course, that's not counting the super harvests. AND I don't have to prime 'em with pettings/massagings anymore, so that saves some energy points too.
So you can see that it's definitely worth the time. XD

  • Getting cooking and harvesting skills will work, but that takes time which you might rather spend on other skills that you find more interesting, eg mining; which will then also take longer to learn subsequently.

There are some meals for sale in auctions, which should, in theory, provide energy replenishment for the proles. But there aren't loads of meals available, and they tend to be over-priced due to a lack of supply; and also tend to be sold in large batches, which also makes it an expensive option. I think this is partly due to the ineffecient way the auctions are currently configured - I enjoy the cheffery part of the game, but if I wanted to sell 12 meals one at a time I have to go through the whole process of putting them up for auction 12 times. Which takes longer than actually making the meals in-game, so I don't bother...

A useful tip is to learn about the buffs that some of the drinks give you - they can cancel out the energy required for some actions, and may well be cheaper than buying food (there's a liquor vendor in West Spice). And some people dabble with no-no powder, but I couldn't possibly condone that, no, no no...

  • Thanks everyone for a lot of great tips! I will shift my skills to be more cooking/animal farming.

  • No-no used to be efficient, but they tweaked it so you die pretty much instantaneously after 5 or so sniffs. If you're mining and grinding, invest in Earthshakers(mining) and Flaming Humbabas(grinding). They make mining and grinding free of energy cost for a set period of time. As I remember it, Earthshakers are about 1 minute 30 seconds, I think, and Humbabas are 30 seconds. You need to consult someone else on that. Good luck!
