Why do you go to the ancestral lands?

1.) The traps.
2.) The higher valued coins.
3.) To stock up on paper.

or is there any other reason?

  • That's pretty much it. I go for all three, plus I go to avoid jujus. There's a badge for that :P

  • Personally, I go for the music...

  • I don't go, not since I started really valuing my possessions.  It took getting robbed all of about five times, all taking stuff I needed and used frequently and had to replace, for me to just swear off them.  I went again just for the "fun" of it a few nights back, I emptied ALL my bags onto my house floor and then went and did it and came back with really nothing more than a few pieces of a paper, a key worth about 25 currants on auction, and some cherries I had picked after I got kicked out due to nostalgia. >_<

I prefer to do more constructive things with my time... like race cubimals with my bestie and hide stuff all over Ur.  ^_^  That provides more concrete and tangible rewards to me than risking all my possessions just to get some pieces of paper.

I really, really wish we could grow paper trees in our backyards.  Like hugely much.  In fact... I think I shall take this to the ideas forum...

  • I can't ever do that Dahlia, I play with such severe lag that just the appearance of them freezes my computer.  By the time I've jumped, they've already done their deed and run away. :p

Sorry not everyone plays on lightning fast machines.  I play glitch not because it runs smoothly but because 1. I love it and 2. I love the interaction and community.  If I wanted something that allowed me to jump on a moment's notice I'd just go play my Wii.  ^_^

  • @Miso: My apologies...funny, the assumptions we make, isn't it? I get laggy sometimes, too, so I just leave and go back again later...I can't imagine being unable to go to the Ancestral Lands!
Posted 13 months ago by Dahlia DreadNaught Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm sorry too if I came across harsh.  =)

I cannot imagine playing Glitch without lag.  I wonder about it though.  I see other players zooming across and I'm like, huh.  I wonder.  I bet it's nice.  XD

  • I go for the increased value in energy, XP and currants. I'm also curious to see what special treats I'll come out with. I also get a kick out of my reaction every time I encounter a juju. I swear, I can feel the hair on my arms rise up, as i see it popping out of the trap, and then I quickly reach for the Rock and teleport home. LOL.

  • you can find herb seeds in ancestral grounds as well. As good a reason as any to go there

  • At first I went for the drops, but now I go for the music, the fun of eluding JuJus, and because I love snapping the traps. I don't much care what they give. It's also great for replenishing energy.

  • Mostly to refill my energie.

The traps are a nice bonus. As are the XP and favour coins.

At the moment, i also go there to go to new streets.
Posted 13 months ago by Louis Louisson Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's about the only regions where paper trees are somewhat widespread, so that's the primary reason. Replenishing energy would be another motivation. I used to be annoyed at my inability to catch XP quoins, but meh, I made peace with that now.

Oh, I also go there to trigger traps (gathering herb seeds as a side) and annoy jujus, I suppose. And the music's nice.
Posted 13 months ago by Wein Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Mostly I go for the quoins.  I'm working on the badge for harvesting 71 paper trees too.  Music? I'll have to turn the music up the next time I go there.

  • I go there for the thrills. I go to the streets, grind, smelt, or repair, then set off and sometimes get as many as three jujus on my tail :-D
Posted 13 months ago by Osprey Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I go there because there you can legitimately avoid other people. Also, the timer makes it somehow exciting.
Posted 13 months ago by Prof. Woland Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I go to replenish energy / mood.  If I get something useful from the dustraps along the way, that's a bonus.

At launch, even at lower levels, I made a point to go there once a game day, since I didn't always have enough food/drinks or supplies to make them...it extended my playing since I was doing some pretty intensive mining sessions in the beginning to get my beta house back.  More than once a day was often a waste since I'd usually have reached my 100 qoin limit by the time I was ready to go back.
Posted 13 months ago by b3achy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I went a few times to check it out, but for 'special case' energy boosts I use no-no powder at end of days.  I originally fooled myself into thinking there was more up there than there is.
Posted 13 months ago by Parrow Gnolle Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Completest badges and newly visited streets bonuses are nice when you're new.  It's not just the high value energy quoins either, the XP quoins are also a big boost.
Posted 13 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You know that there are paper trees located in non-ancestral lands areas, too, right? :) If you're just going to get paper, you have other options.

I go for high value quoins / coins, completist badges, and to see how many traps I can trigger (also for a badge).

It may just be me, but Jujus tend to lurk at the periphery of the various ancestral regions; try avoiding the edges?

  • Lorelai, it's pretty slanted you have to admit. There are 31 or 32 trees in the ancestrals and a measly five or six in the entire rest of the world combined.
Posted 13 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I like the random aspect of the traps. Sometimes you just get paper or cheap herb seeds, sometimes you get gems and expensive food.

    It's also nice and relaxing.

  • Kinda wish there was a place without a timer to go to harvest them xD Feel like I'll never get that 1000 badge for paper tree harvests. Of course the TS people give the least common tree the greatest number of requisite harvests to get the badge :P

  • @miso My experience of the Juju apparing is that the screen freezes, the netbook gets really hot for a few seconds and then it tells me what's been stolen. Sometimes I see them briefly before they fade, and very rarely, if I happen to have rebooted just before going there, I can run and run and run nearly 3ft before they catch me.

For me it was always a nice energy, mood and xp boost (less so now). I do still need the paper tree badges though, so I may drop my bags off and give it a whirl again.

  • Hey guys, re: lag issue-
Sometimes refreshing cures it at times I suspect the server might be running heavy.
Other times, tho, I can feel how hot my laptop's grafix proc'r is getting when I run around fast for too long- try this: I have used a can of compressed air and blown the COLD jet into the cooling vents (short little bursts, take it easy) and found it helps to cool down the hot stuff by removing the heat energy, as well as clearing the vent grates to increase cooling air thru-flow.
I run Vista w/ only 1GB RAM, and free breathing coolant air makes a difference.
