A Glitchoverment

There is a list of "unofficial" rules evolving in another post, http://alpha.glitch.com/forum/general/2742/ and it seems extremely bureaucratic. Fortunately there are bureaucratic skills to be learned.

I think It would be an excellent idea for the devs to develop a skill path beyond penpersonship that leads to police or some sort of in game official that can issue "citations" for "violations". The obvious path of this is to potentially create a Glitchovermet (not sure if that's the best combo of Glitch and government)

It's obvious that we all like a little bureaucracy now and then!

  • ...Anarchy! That is all. But to make a short note long, I think I would prefer that the only thing governing my behavior in Glitch be the game mechanics, not other players. I have the option to make an ass of myself by breaking the "rules", but given the current community tightness, I would be very hesitant to do so. So far, the community has been policing itself with the punishment being of the social variety (try being socially outcast in a social game!). I enjoy being able to walk around Estevan Meadows wearing nothing but a bear hat without being issued a ticket for public nudity, for instance; it saves me loads of currants! That's just my take on the subject, but in Glitchocracy, majority rules.

  • A potential problem with players being able to police others is that some might learn the skills specifically to harass others and behave in generally unconstructive ways.

  • @Vexia My idea is that it would remain tongue and cheek. Since there seems to be a desire to make social rules and break social rules then that process should manifest in the game not solely exist in the forums. (Always in good fun of course)

I'm not sure how I feel about fines, perhaps they would just be very small or could be appealed at the office of bureaucratic affairs (or whatever it's called). Where you can wait in line and commiserate (or make plans) with fellow "Gliminals"  As far as being a social outcast in a game, nothing brings people together like sticking it to the man.

@Millie I am almost certain that people would learn the skills to harass others but, like the garlic kiss, it could be fun and at the very least it is social!

There are always going to be people who want rules and people who want to break whatever rules there are. If it is built into the game hopefully that process can be done with a sense of humor and remain engaging, entertaining and productive!

  • I think the highest form of policing in the game should be an officer costume. That's all. It's then up to the character to wander around and execute his/her OWN brand of justice.
"Hey! You there! There's two of you mining that one rock! One of you must cease and desist immediately!... No? Fine then!" *MOON* (or give each a paper note with a useless fine written on it.) Take action into your own hands with what you have. That's what makes this game fun ;) Honestly, if it happened to me, I'd probably even pay the fine (the first few times - until it stopped being funny).
PS to the Devs: This is me officially requesting a Police Officer costume! :)

  • +10 Cap'n Bob's idea
This sounds like fun without being a source of nuisance that actual abilities might be.  :)
And if the Police Officer costume is made, then the description should include at least some of what Cap'n Bob just said, to give the player a sense of the responsibilities that come with the uniform :P

  • Haha! I do like the idea of police officers mooning people for breaking the laws. They ought to give it a try in America sometime!
