Could we have a double jump, please?

Was playing around the other day with levitation, and thought that it would be kinda cool if there were an upgrade that could unlock a double jump, after levitation has been earned.  Or perhaps after the last jump upgrade.  If that is too powerful, then perhaps it would be a mode you have to activate on your focusing orb, so that you can't meditate whilst it is active, or something like that, after you have unlocked levitation.

Heh, even thought of a great name.  The Fineous Flop.  Or Fin's Flip.  One or the other.

:D

*edit - o.k. there have been multiple posts from people who are apparently unclear on the concept of a double jump, so I will clarify here.

1) A double jump does not just mean jumping higher.
2) A double jump does not require activating something each time you want to jump (though maybe something that remains active indefinitely when you turn it on would work)
3)A double jump does not mean stepping off the edge of something, and then being able to jump on the way down.  That is still a single jump.
4) A double jump does not require falling at maximum velocity before you can do it

The purpose of a double jump is to give yourself control WHILST YOU ARE IN MIDAIR.  This is a second jump (just one) that you can take before you hit the ground (or any other surface).  You can use it to travel sideways a long distance, or to gain some extra height.  You can use to to correct if you are in midair and aimed your jump badly so that you are going to miss your platform.  It is a standard in many types of platformer games, which, let's be honest, this is.  I think it would work very well in Glitch.

  • How's it different to the 2 types of jumping upgrades that already exist?

    i.e.

  • Double jump is a standard in platformer games.  The term refers to the ability to jump a second time whilst you are in midair.  The existing jumps are just normal jumps, either slight increases in jump height from the jump upgrades, or the triple jump which is a large boost in height after every third jump.  Both of those require you to be in contact with the ground, however.  The concept of the double jump is that you do NOT need to be touching the ground when you take the second jump it is often used as more of a lateral move than a height gaining one, though of course it is useful for that too.

  • It would be especially useful during things like Summer's Day where the next platform doesn't necessarily spawn where your jump is gonna end, or under what it is you're jumping at.  Or bounding through tall trees and miscalculating that long leap to the next branch.  It gives you room for one quick chance at "error adjustment" in your jump (and subsequent landing) before plunging back to the bottom to try again.

  • with upgraded levitation one can pretty much do just that.

  • no, not really, because you still have to activate the power.  This is something that would work all the time, not something you turn on, and that only lasts for a few seconds.

*edit, or that you turn on but that lasts until you turn it off.  Whatever.  You know what I mean.  :P

  • Really?  With all the gamers out there no one wants a double jump?

Well, I would still like one!

  • "Really?  With all the gamers out there no one wants a double jump?"
Haha, I am not a gamer, I am a Glitch.

But, it does sound nice to have it without turning on the levitation, that is, after I've already scrolled up, after I've clicked the orb, after I've clicked open the bag what contains the orb.  Yes, I can see this being a positive thing.  We could call it Minkey's Magic or Min-key Boun-cey!

    +1

  • I like the idea ^_^  Levitation won't allow for the "error adjustment" mid jump like double jump does, as I said above.  I just forgot to add +1 to my initial post.

  • Er... there already IS a double jump.  Go to Sky Plunge (or some tall place like Kohanger Hang or whatever).  Jump off the platform.  Make sure you hit maximum velocity.  Hit jump again, and you jump in mid-air.  You're allowed to do this once between touchdowns.  So far as I can remember, this has always been the case.

  • but i can already do what you are describing - what is the problem?

  • If you fall, you can jump after.  If you jumped, you can't jump again.

  • Exactly.  I put an edit in my OP to try to clarify the points people seem to be misunderstanding.

  • Sounds cool, though I agree that it would have to be pretty end-game. Kinda enjoy the experience of not being able to dbl-jump earlier on, though being able to at high levels would be awesome
