Weekly Snapshot Contest

Hey folks!

With the introduction of easier sharing of snaps on Twitter and Facebook, we've just launched a snapshot contest.  What?! Contest?! Yes! You can read the full scoop in our new blog post

The theme of the week is....

Hidden spots of Ur — your favorite little nooks and crannies, unusual formations, hidden pleasures and strange places — and all the strange sites that make Ur the wonderful world that it is.

So, to be considered, tweet your snap with these hashtags so we can find them:

#glitchsnap
#hiddenworld

After a week has passed, we will choose a winner from snaps that were tweeted for the prize, 500 credits!

Again, for the full details, check out our blog post, and we'll be looking for your snaps!

Clarification: the tweet needs to be publicly visible to be entered in the contest.

  • Er, I'm not on Twitter (or Facebook). Does this mean I can't play?

  • And how about peeps with private twitter feeds? Do we have a chance to win?

  • I NEED PRIZES

(Or I can just be happy winning at cute fight)

  • Given that every one of his pictures is made of total win, it seems obvious to me that before the idea of an equitable contest can be truly viable, we must first find FyodorD and take away his snapshotting privileges.

  • I think there should be a weekly prize for most creative way to remove Fyo from the contest.

Anyone want to cut power to his home?

  • I second shhexy corin's question-my Twitter is private and it needs to stay like that...any chance of taking part?

  • " If you don’t already have a Twitter account, consider that your entry form :)" So if you prefer a private Twitter, make a public one just for the contest. If you want to participate and don't have Twitter, you'll have to make one.

  • Yeah. I totally understand the privacy concerns, but it's easy to work around.

For example, once I discovered a couple of my clients were playing Glitch (and didn't want them to see how much time I was in Ur), I changed my name here. I'd really rather not broadcast my obsessive tendencies here to my twitter feed which is mostly used for professional networking. So, I'm going to create an account for Vera Strange.

At first I felt a twinge of guilt for this... I mean, at least part of this is voluntary promotion (which makes sense - if you like Glitch, chances are a few of your friends & followers will). But then I realized that, hey, Vera's tweets will show up under a hashtag search and help show how loved and awesome Glitch is to all those who explore a bit beyond the pics their friends post. And... bonus! now I'll have a twitter account for my Glitchy friends to follow without having to get bored by my stupid work stuff :)

  • There's a few dozen sites out there where you can create an email on the spot under a fake name, then register a twitter to that same fake name and email, and voila.  It's really not a hardship.

I must have a dozen throwaway emails registered to Doogie Howser.

  • Are there any locational limitations on the contest? Because I've become rather used to the small print on things like that saying somewhere that it's only open to people in the US, and it would be nice to know upfront if that is so.

  • Good luck! to twitter and facebook fans. I am afraid I am not one of them. I wish we could also hold a snapshot contest in house. Let the players vote.

  • Does this have to be snaps taken from now on or can it be any snaps taken in the past?

  • Just about to ask the same question as TomC...

  • Only new snaps with the two tags will be considered for the contest.

  • but I don't twitter...
Posted 69 days ago by Mt Dew Me Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @MQ: Do they need to have BOTH tags to be considered?
Posted 69 days ago by CrashTestPilot Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Twitter bad (and hacker paradise)....would've done fb but even that woulda been pushing it for me.  Can't stand all the ads there or the new layout.  Dumped twitter as soon as I tried it and still get e-mails asking for a password reset and random ads from strange folk more than a year later!

  • Well, that explains why I still have (as of this posting) the most snaps up. mwahahahahha.

  • I'm on Twitter for work-related purposes, and frankly after yesterday's KitchenAid fiasco I'm even more wary about mixing things I'd like to stay private (Glitch) with Twitter.

Looking forward to seeing fun snaps -- if there's someway I can see them off Twitter.
Posted 69 days ago by Colette Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Crashtestpilot: yes, they need to have *both* tags to be considered.

The other key item is that the tweet needs to be publicly visible.  If it's a protected tweet, we cannot see it!  :)

  • I made a pic and sent it to glitchsnap but dont know where the tags are suppose to be all about sorry very old here
Posted 69 days ago by Jellybelly Baby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • colette: just make a dummy email account at gmail or the like and make a second twitter account?
Posted 69 days ago by Faranae Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The #glitchsnap tag and url are already on there, you just have to put the #hiddenworld after that. So it will look like:

    url #glitchsnap #hiddenworld

  • Well, that's it then for the Twitter thing - not gonna make yet another account just for one game - problem: my already existing public gaming Twitter account....has the name of a Glitch account which is NOT mine-it's my mum's Glitch account (because she couldn't be bothered to think of a name herself and chose my secondary Twitter account, as we both thought I'd never need it for Glitch). I wonder if that's a problem? Using a Twitter that has the name of someone else on Glitch?
Posted 69 days ago by Alyx Sands Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Alyx, I think they award the prize to whoever took the snap. Names don't matter.
Posted 69 days ago by Sororia Rose Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I sent the tags in with the new pic but cant find it in my twitter account where do they go to see all ? please.
Posted 69 days ago by Jellybelly Baby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Vogon Blarg You spelled the url without the L please change for others.

  • So, I just joined Twitter, and the preset bio text is:

Rocket ship builder, pizza expert, loves the Giants, parent.

    HAHAHAHA
Posted 69 days ago by SeerQueen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • can you do it on facebook?
Posted 69 days ago by Sad Pollen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm having the same problem as Jellybelly Baby. I've tried posting it using the twitter button from the snap page and also manually typing in the links. Funny thing is, the tweet appears for a few minutes and then disappears. Weird, eh?
Posted 69 days ago by N2ZOrtolanaBlue Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Why cant someone here place the url for all the snaps to be seen.I did see my own tweets and pics but it would have been much easier if TS let the folks put there urls pics here so everone could see them and.....for those that do not do twitter it would have been so much less stress. just my opinion like anyone really gives a damn about easier these days.
Posted 68 days ago by Jellybelly Baby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Okay, still confused.

Must we take the snap and use the twitter button at that point?  Then add another tag to it?

Can we instead take the snap, not use the twitter button, then go to our twitter account and manually post link #glitchsnap #hiddenworld ?

I have never posted pics using twitter so I'd really love direct steps from a staff member for what we have to do for our snaps to be counted.  I know you've said "tweet your snap with these hashtags" but I just don't know what that really entails.
Posted 68 days ago by diaveborn ♥ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • You can do it either way.
Posted 68 days ago by Little Miss Giggles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • we should be able to tag snaps on glitch!
Posted 68 days ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Made a new twitter account.  Posted my snap with the URL and both hashes.  I can see it on my home page, but when I go to either hash, I don't see it listed.  Does twitter not show your own stuff on these types of pages?  I double and triple checked, and it says my posts are not private.  Having never used twitter before, I guess I'm wondering what I am doing wrong, or if this working the way it should.
Posted 68 days ago by b3achy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • you might need to click "all" at the top of the tag search page, by default it shows "top"

    -  the bit where it says "Tweets Top / All / People you follow"
Posted 68 days ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks, tried that...maybe I just need to post a new one given that I hadn't 'confirmed' my account prior to trying to post the first snap.
Posted 68 days ago by b3achy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have clicked all and like a lot of other folks here cant make heads or tails of where all the pics are in twitter.Have spent too much crazy lose of time here searching a hopeless cause,we need some staff to guide us through and not waste precious time with chaos.
Posted 68 days ago by Jellybelly Baby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Wondering if twitter has the same minimum posting for newbs that flickr has...I think it was 5 postings before photos became available over there...maybe there is something similar on twitter?
Posted 68 days ago by b3achy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, I posted a few yesterday and cannot get any to come up in a search = very flawed.

I know for a fact that a lot more people have posted than there are results as some people that I follow (and get emails from) who have posted snaps with both hash tags, etc. have not come up in extensive search results
Posted 68 days ago by Cleops Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Your tweet must have the tags #glitchsnap and #hiddenworld in it, along with the link to the snap.  The account you post from must be publicly visible, so that the tweets are not private.

As a specific example, the most boring tweet of all time to enter the contest would look like this:
Check out my snapshot on Glitch! lem.to/p/fiOj #glitchsnap #hiddenworld

    Here's a real world example: https://twitter.com/thecascott/status/254345333478404096

    Hopefully that makes sense.

    See you in Ur!

  • I'm having the same problem -- made sure I did not have the "private" button on twitter checked off, published my snap, then hit the "twitter" button, added the hashtags, twittered it. Tweeted it? But when I click on the #hiddenworld hashtag, I can't find my tweet, even when I choose "All."  I can see it on my twitter homepage though. Am I doing something wrong?

Edited to add: Do I have to let others find my by my email? Is that what publicly visible means?
