How do you organize your stuff?

I am starting to have a hard time keeping things organized. I put all my food at the top floor. Then grains, meat, milk cherries on the middle floor. Then all the rocks and the like on the bottom floor. Things are starting to overflow onto each other. I am going to start doing the new street projects, when I learn teleportation four, which is a few days away.

  • Floor? Are we talking about in homes? Or in the slots and the things we carry in them (LOL innuendo)?

  • In my home, since I'm too cheap to buy storage bags at the moment, I leave all my full stacks of harvested stuff on the bottom level. I keep the other two levels tidy. I have a small emblem pile in the middle level, which looks vaguely like a weird kind of gold rug (if you use your imagination) and I've got my pickle and yeti on either side of the sofa.  Upstairs, I have a few of the Glitch game items arranged to look like books, or...games even lol
Eventually, when I decide to spend some money, I'll buy storage bags for all the full stacks and put them away tidily in storage. 'till then, I can deal with a little bit of mess :)

  • I have two toolboxes, one for cooking tools and the other for the rest. Then a bag each for all 4 types of ores (I mostly mine), ingots, cooked food, raw food, three misc bags (which I put dice, music boxes, emo bear, etc in), an alchemistry kit, spice rack and element pouch. It does me fine for storage at the moment. Once I get full I'll buy a house and start to fill the cabinet with more misc bags.

  • I have a house, but I'm like Draron in that I have a ton of containers (only 4 slots on my inventory not taken by containers) so the only thing my closet at home is used for is gardening supplies (seeds, guano).

  • My home has only one floor and one container, though it's a nice big one.

  • I like things to be tidy so haven't been able to bring myself to leave things lying around my house, even though it's got plenty of space!

I have the spice rack, alchemistry kit and element pouch along with three bigger bags (roughly fruit and veg, rice potatoes and grain, meat beans and eggs) and some smaller bags (groceries, tools, cooking tools, random, special).

I keep cubimals, music boxes, building materials, seeds and a few other bits in my cabinet. I am now contemplating getting a couple of bags for keeping the music boxes in the cabinet rather than leave stuff lying around the place.

    A bit OCD I know...!

  • i might be the queen of Glitch Inventory Organization. it would explain the tiara.

1.) (Secret bag with secret stuff)
2.) "Interacting with the world bag" -- music blocks, pickle, keys, etc
    3.) Spice
    4.) Toolbox -- tools
    5.) Toolbox -- kitchen
    6.) Meals
    7.) Drinks
    8.) Groceries
    9.) Crops (veggies, etc)
10.) Gather (beans, cherries, milk, bubbles, etc)
    11.) Swamp box
12.) Empty bag (for things I pick up from interacting with the world)
13 - 16 empty slots (I'll get more bags eventually)

Before reset I was a terrible hoarder; this time I'm not and it's made game play much more fun. :) Less weighted down. Also -- I know I can get the stuff I previously hoarded (meat, milk, crops, etc) when I need it.

At home I have some extra purple, some extra beans (cuz I know Awesome Stew is coming up!), and pieces of my burgeoning music block collection.

Maybe that was more than anyone else was interested in reading.

  • PRO TIP: if you have tons of one thing you can put them all "on top of each other" on the floor. For instance - 1,000 beans? You can drop them all in one place, making it look like there is only one group of beans there. Do that for each group... you'll be able to keep your floor nice and tidy.

  • gave up trying.  Waiting for 3rd party api to defragment my bags based on item name and bag name.

  • I have a system similar to emdot, but I think I'm up to 16 bag divisions now, plus the alchemy kit and elements bag and spice and...

    yes, insane organizer XD

most I keep in the cupboard at home, like my garden seeds bag, that doesn't need to travel around with me since the garden is at home

  • ummm, so am I the only one that organizes my bags of raw materials (jellisac, ores, planks, etc), manufactured goods (ingots, blocks, crystals) and bonuses (gems and music blocks) by selling price / donation value?

  • BTW, the spice rack is completely a waste of space.  Just carry a ton of allspice, and create spices on demand when you cook.

  • Inventory on a general day of wandering about (all my bags are bigger bags):

5 bags as catch all (brown)
    1 bag for gems (pink)
    1 bag for ore (grey)
    1 bag for drinks (blue)
1 bag for cooked food (green)
2 bags for various raw food ingredients (green)
Spice Rack (Not a waste of space for me- all the allspice goes directly into it when I am gathering. I don't make specific types of spices til I need them.)
(Alchemistry set when I get there, for now a bigger bag)
(Elemental bag when I get there, for now a bigger bag)
1 green toolbox for breakable mining/gardening tools
    1 silver toolbox for kitchenware

    House:

On the floor for ease of access (and tidily)-
1 bag for each veggie that can be grown (13 total and green)

    In the cabinet-
    1 bag for milk (blue)
    1 bag for gases (blue)
    1 bag for bubbles (blue)
    1 bag for meat (green)
    1 bag for beans (green)
1 bag for flower seeds (pink)
    1 bag for fireflies (pink)
    1 bag for cherries (pink)
    1 bag for barnacles (brown)
1 bag for general Urfiness (loam, peat, earth) (brown)

Eventually I want to add (and most will go in the cabinet):

1 grey bag for each type of ore (4 total)
    1 brown bag for jellisacs
    1 grey bag for emblems
1 cubimal box... maybe... They're kinda cute on my porch.

And I dunno, I may shift or change or buy more depending on my needs and space. But I basically go for one bag per type of thing I know I will use a lot, either through my skills or donating to projects and the like. I label all the bags and associate colors with different things. It seems to help me stay fairly organized, or at least makes it easy to organize when I get a bit disorganized.

  • oh man, giggles. i bow to you. awesome.

  • Hah. It's only in a game like this that I can even remotely attempt to stay organized. IRL I am awful.

I like how organized your inventory is, emdot! And I do agree, not hoarding makes things a lot easier, especially if you plan on moving. But I'm in the most perfect house I can be out of what's available right now (for myself).

So to avoid too much hoarding, I will make a point of selling or giving away anything that ends up not fitting in its designated bag (mostly happens to the veggies because I just love growing crops). 16 stacks of whatever I need should be plenty, and I can grow/get more when I run low.

All this will make it a lot easier when projects come around, though (was slowly getting to that point by the end of beta), and definitely makes it easier when I want to stay in my house and do a huge cooking batch or whatever.

  • @mereret

I don't the Spice Box is a complete waste of space, it can be useful for the following:
    1. If you gather a lot of allspice (which I do) it fills multiple slots in the box
    2. When you get to the point you get a lot of bonus items you sometimes get random spices that would otherwise take up space in your inventory
    3. As I do a lot of cooking, when I'm leaving the game for a while I often use up my remaining energy milling spices ready for my next batch of cooking (it's that or repair tools!)

  • yeah,  if you're doing street projects, it can be good to have a massive store of various spices & fruits.

I had a fruit bag filled with every kind of fruit before the reset. I have no idea why it made me happy,  but it did.

As for organising my bags,  I'm not really doing it yet, I'll only start once I get overloaded with things.  It's tedious and boring keeping your bags organised... it's not what I enjoy doing in real life, so even less so in a game! Waiting for the API to allow dopiaza to make me a bag-sorting monkey.

  • I have a treehouse and my stuff is in neat piles in the yard according to my categories: herb seeds, herbs, vegetables, fruits, etc. I have a notepad txt file for my inventory of what I have in my house and the quantity. This way if I'm roaming the world, I know what I have.
