Moving House

I'm currently in a small Grondle Forest house, and have *tons* of crap on the floor, cupboard full of bags, etc. I'm looking to buy one of the big shiny new houses in Alakol or suchlike so that I'll finally have room to organise the heaps, but there doesn't appear any means of moving all my stuff while transitioning (as far as I can tell). While I can afford the new house, I can't afford to buy hundreds* of big bags to move things in.

(* maybe slight exaggeration, but you get the idea)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the flow appears to be:

1 - sell house
2 - get dumped onto street with a huge pile of your stuff
3 - buy a new house elsewhere
4 - work like crazy to move your stuff from the pile to the new house before someone else helps themselves

Ideally, I think there should be some way of buying a new house and selling the old one (kinda like a trade-in), and having some way of automatically moving your stuff to the new house. Or is there and I've just not found it yet? :)

  • Second best option (right now): Find a friend or friends and ask them to help you collect your stuff in their bags.  That way when you sell/purchase, you still have all your stuff.  Any trophies you have will convey to your new digs.

I don't mind helping you move next test..and I am not a nefarious stuff stealer btw, just a bored player who isn't leveling like mad before the reset.

  • Note that all of your stuff not in your personal inventory STAYS with the house...it does not get dumped into the street when you sell.

But you have the rest of it right - you have to sell first, and then you can buy a new one.  You can also opt to get teleported to the new house, so you can do the selling/buying from your old house and get a free teleport to the new one.

My first move, I took all my excess stuff and just sold it all to the vendors (or auctioned it). It was a great way to purge my extra stuff, get some extra currants, and I even sold some things I thought I wanted to keep just because I couldn't haul it to the new house. I've now gotten it all back and then some (you should see the mounds of things I have at my current home). (I also look at RL moves as a way to purge stuff I don't really really need).  Some things I actually intentionally leave behind as 'gifts' to the new home owner (typically starter seeds, a couple drinks, etc)...as a house welcoming gift of sorts.

As Nanookie already stated, your other best option is to get some trusted friends to help you move.  People often have moving parties when they are going from one house to the next.  It is probably intentionally that way to increase the social aspect of moving.

One of the less than preferred methods would be to post some of the excess items to the auctions at over-inflated prices.  Move, then cancel the auctions to get your stuff back.  You are out the listing fee for the items, but you get your stuff back before the 24 hours are up, and you can consider the listing fee to be a storage fee of sorts (just pay attention that you still have enough to buy your new house).  Note that they have put some things in place to restrict this type of activity recently, so check out this option first before loading up the auctions with all your excess stuff to be sure you can get the stuff back.  And also realize that in some cases, someone might actually buy your stuff before you can get it back (especially if it is needed for a project), so then you don't have it any longer (but you will have made some currants on the items).  It's a riskier method than just using trusted friends to help.

  • YukiaN, this is how moving works:

1 - put all your belongings in your bags, ask friend to help if you have too much stuff to carry alone.
    2 - sell house
3 - get dumped onto street with only the stuff in your bags, everything else stays in your old house (including animals)
    4 - buy a new house elsewhere

  • Funny story about helping a friend move.  He had a manse in Alakol and was moving back to Shimla, asked me to help him move.  So I emptied two of my bigger bags to get ready and then met him there.  He says, "you grab the stuff on the floor, I will get the cupboard."

I walk all over this giant house and you know what I found on the floor?  A single pinch of salt. That was it.  In the meantime he's saying, "Ok, the cupboard...oh, cupboard's empty?  Great."

So that was the time I help striatic move a single pinch of salt from Alakol to Shimla.

  • I'll help you move, too, if it's during a time I can play.

(ha ha nanookie. i'm sure that salt was very important.)

    -----------

When I moved I put my excess stuff in The Cat Face's house. Sold my house. Then moved all my stuff into my new place. It only took two trips. :) So, that's another option. If you know you want to move to Alakol, you might be able to put some stuff in a friend's house there to hold it for you. (and I live in Alakol... I'd gladly grant you the space on my first floor.)

  • When I moved I filled all my bags..sold/donated or auctioned  what couldn't fit. Cleaned my house...garden .. etc.......any left over filled bags...joo's took to her house and held them there for me..and during down time I sold my old house, took my time choosing a new house and bought it, ...then when the game reopened..I was in my shiny new house and joos brought my bags over to me :D.

  • Thanks for the info folks, shame it isn't made more obvious within the game itself :) Nanookie, emdot, thanks for the offers of assistance - I might take you up on them in the next test or two.
