10 June Test! What's new?

What's new?

We've got Teleportation scripts you can make, if you have Teleportation IV, and Penpersonship. The scripts are single use items and can get you to the place where you created them. If you imbue the script, you allow someone else a free teleport to that spot when you give it to them. :)

Multiplayer quests! We have a few more that will be offered to you in the game. Have fun with them!

Dirt Piles! Dirt Piles allow more earth or loam to be harvested by a player at one of them, and you can also harvest them communally with other players. There are currently a handful spread throughout the Groddle regions.

Bug fixes-
You know that annoying Firefly Jar which was stuck open and you couldn't use? Fixed!
The chicken that ran off when it started incubating an egg? Now improved with more Nesting Instinct v.2.
Problems with multiple players mining or using blockmakers should be resolved
We fixed various conditions where people were stuck in multiplayer races. Hopefully we'll see less people left behind. :)
You know how when making a powder, the beaker crafter would tell you that you didn't know how to make an element which you did? Fixed!

  •  What I've learned so far about those dirt piles.

They behave like rocks, rather than peat bogs in that you are either being helped, or helping if you dig  with one or more person.
They take a LONG time to regenerate. Each stage of regeneration takes 10 minutes.. Each stage yields two lumps ( we think) and we know there are at least four stages ( maybe more)  The longest a group of us could  stand by and persuade others not to dig was 30 minutes, and the pile still hadn't completely regenerated.

Still don't know if  an earth or loam result is a factor of time, number of diggers, or utterly random.
    We only got earth.

  • More multiplayer quests?  Hope these aren't more races... I still have to clear The Amazing Race.
Posted 18 months ago by Blitz Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Blitz, I am terrible at the Amazing Race, let me know if you want to try it w/me next time I'm on. I have done it about 4 times and always loose. So, if you want to clear it and get the other races challenge me.

  • Some other things have changed too;
You can now release animals from your backyard into the wild
Some of the number of items in a stack have changed for some of the food items
Poison has been added as an action item to trees (be careful!)

  • Teleportation tokens are working (or did I just not notice those last test?)

  • if u pause a skill before u have reduced the time by 50%, but only reduced it by say 10%, you are learning as fast as u can when u come back. Not possible to speed it up anymore. Like the warning says....don't change your skill or u will be stuck.

  • LOVE the new racing quests!  They are so fun!!  Thanks!

The only thing is, are we able to play once we have completed the quest?  It would be cool if it was an option to do the race even without the quest so we could keep doing them over and over again!
Posted 18 months ago by Laurali Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Laurali - I still have not won the amazing race (I'm secretly glad I'm not the only one that is bad at it) but have participated in the Lava Race, someone issued a challange that I was able to accept first. I actually didn't do too bad, still lost, but it was so close to almost winning I could almost taste it. So, if you are nearby when someone issues a challange you will be able to do them again.

  • Love the dirt piles!
Thanks for increasing the food stacks!!  So much better!
Thanks for the change to release our animals in the yard into the wild.
Thanks for the tool vendor in Bortola ;)

  • Is it my imagination or are there fewer game sounds this time around? For instance, the "bubbling" noise the purple beaker used to make as you entered the world is gone now. The whole game seems quieter to me, which isn't always a good thing... I kind of liked all the ambient noises going on.

Is anyone else noticing this or am I just losing it?

  • I love the dirt piles!  Wonderful addition.  However, I still only get earth.  Maybe there could be a skill later on that turns earth to loam.  Every project seems to need loam and for the life of me, I just can't get it.  I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Also, I really like the new mail system, but would like to be able to opt out of the frog when I'm buying something on auction.  Turned out to be a bit of an issue when I bought stuff for a project.  It comes to late.
I had some lag issues, but installed Chrome for Glitch use only and that really did seem to help.  Thanks for that tip.  Just want to say how much I enjoy this game and thanks so much for all your hard work and imagination.  Keep doing what you're doing and you'll have a real winner on your hands!!

  • I think the dirt piles are awesome because no one can plant a darned tree there, but only allowing 3 digs per day seems rather limiting, considering that one dig only outputs 2 earth (when by yourself). That means that one pile is equivalent to 2 patches... but really it's less than that, because you can harvest patches more often than once per day. I guess since patches are almost impossible to find, we should be happy with something over nothing... Sure, we could poison trees, but a new one will be planted faster than (insert witty Southern saying here... I don't know, "poop through a goose"... yes, that is edited...)

Sure, I will complain that I can only gather a hand-full of loam over several hours of searching (probably mostly due to the lack of patches/dirt piles), but somehow the projects always end up with enough to be donated after some time has passed... I honestly don't know where these people are getting it from, because I can't find it...
Posted 18 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • the more you dig the more you find. (that said i don't think i've ever had a full stack of loam) and i wasn't able to get any out of the dirt piles either...
Posted 18 months ago by IxÆoN Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well, I love the dirt piles and the food stacking (though it will take me a little while to rememorize it all) but EGADS I hate the tree poisoning being on the actions menu! I made the mistake of double clicking to harvest and I killed a fruit tree. So I replanted a wood tree, no biggie, but one foul click and those trees are goners! (And, no, I had no antidote on me) So, what about an "are you sure?" prompt or something first?!
Posted 18 months ago by Mistress*of*Fishies Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm sure the dirt piles would be lovely, if I'd actually come across a single one that still had enough left to dig...
Posted 18 months ago by Jennyanydots Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The dirt piles were an interesting addition this test, but not a huge help considering I don't think it ever gives out loam.  Certainly I've never managed to get any when digging in them; the peat bogs gave me more loam than the dirt piles.  :/  As for active loam gathering, I did 2 rounds through Lethensome Lift's Resi streets and managed to gather a fair amount of loam digging those patches (~50 loam).  Doesn't take a huge amount of time and gives good yield (and takes minimal walking too).  :P  So, I don't think I'd use the dirt piles at all for active earth/loam gathering.  At the moment they're too sparse and too limited for that.  Might be okay for casual gathering though.

Teleportation scripts and map teleporting were perhaps the most interesting things I played with this test.  The scripts are very useful, and by keeping scripts to a handful of key locations throughout Ur, getting around is very easy with or without using the metro.  I'm really looking forward to seeing how TP 5 works.  :D

The races were fun, but I'm not really fond of Mario Bro style games.  The *areas* on the other hand were fantastic, so it's a bit of a shame that we can't actually spend time and enjoy them more fully.

Otherwise, WRT tree poison, I didn't like finding that on the tree action menu and ended up accidentally poisoning a couple of trees and killing one.  Between an 'are you sure' with the tree menu poisoning + having it pop up when using a poison bottle directly vs removing it from the tree menu and only using the poison bottle (sic the way it was before), I'd take the latter.  If the former can be instituted without having the "are you sure" applying to direct poison bottle usage, then I'd be happy with either method to prevent accidental poisoning of trees.

All in all, it was a very fun and interesting test.  :)

  • Just have one thing that hasn't happened to me before this test, although I've been told it has happened before and under different circumstances.

When you select an action, your avatar will automatically move to one side.  That's OK understand that, but, it seems, and especially with mining, (maybe since the intro of the new wonderful Help mine), the avatar moves just a little but too far.  I have ended up being automatically pushed off a rock or edge.  Do a lot of mining and this has only happened this test.

Ok I learned to stand at a safe side, but if the rock is on a mound, that doesn't work and I fall off anyway.  Yes, I can climb back up np but if I am on the last dregs of an Earthshaker, time is precious.:)  I do take my mining quite seriously LOL.  Hoping you could perhaps make them move not so far out from the object of their desire, falling off like that is just so not cool! :)

Other than that...great test, great fixes and new things!  Thanks TS;)

ETA oh yes and +1 with Mare for the Tree Poison verb added to the action menu.  Really don't think it's needed there and came so close many times to actioning it when I didn't want to.

  • Teleportation scripts - If you imbue the script, you allow someone else a free teleport to that spot when you give it to them. :) Will these last beyond restart if we dont use them?

Multiplayer quests! yupp seems I had a bunch of race ones lol, just as hopless as ever tho I did manage to finish one, not sure if someone took pity when they saw my rather pathetic jumping lol.

Dirt Piles! Dirt Piles allow more earth or loam to be harvested - Hmmm I only ever got earth and I dug a lot of dirt piles, my garden patch yielded loam more often or so it seemed to me anyways, this is a good thing with three projects going all needing bricks/ blocks and loam at some point.
    Bug fixes-
You know that annoying Firefly Jar which was stuck open and you couldn't use? Ummm I managed to get my fire fly jar stuck again but a couple of refreshes and it was fixed up just perfect, soo yeah Fixed!

The chicken that ran off when it started incubating an egg? Now improved with more Nesting Instinct v.2. - Lol ok first hatch on Sunday and off she went egg n all, second hatch she sat down so ok better but some are resisting that nesting instinct all be it a little.

All in all I had a fantastic time, Joe you make me laugh so much.

Quick note to Kevbob n Jdawg, read your notes!!

  • I'd like tree poison to be like piggy bait:  only available if you select the item.

Is poisoning trees such a frequent interaction that it needs to be on the 'every time I see a tree' menu?
Posted 18 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If you are carrying pig bait, the option to 'capture' is on the pigs' menu - I know this because I have accidentally captured 3 pigs...did I have sense enough to simply leave the bait at home...nope.  I do wish the option to capture could only be opened by selecting the bait in inventory.  I don't poison trees (except those that were in my yard when I bought my house), so, I don't carry poison...but have been involved in several projects that required pigs...which would be why I generally carry bait.  When I caught the pigs - it was before they changed the limits from one per street per life...so, I was upset then...it's not so bad now (simply a waste of bait!)....but, I do wish they would change things and remove these options from the tree and pig menu - and give them [the options] to you only by selecting it in your inventory - that would preclude the need for a confirmation question.
Posted 18 months ago by Firestone1960 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ahh, that's it then.  I never carry my piggy bait around either.

Still, there are far more piggies and trees to interact with than times I need to hog-tie or kill.  These actions seem out of place on the 'every interaction' menu.
Posted 18 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • WB, re the tree poisoning, think that's the point.  Assuming that the majority of players only carry it around (I bought one to take home but tended/harvested trees along the way), for a specific and not excessive purpose, then I don't really see the reason for it being on the menu, as it is more likely to be accidentally used.  I would rather it was a positive action from the object in my inventory, as are things like the powders/dusts.
Posted 18 months ago by ♥joby♥ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Joby.  Yup totally agree.  I was carrying tree poison from vendor to my home and accidentally killed a tree.  Took the time to wait and replant but dang I really didn't wanna do that.  Caught myself several times almost doing it so if there could be a rework here, removing it from selection and making it a deliberate action from the inventory would be great.  Hoping.

  • I'm still looking for go to top of page button after making a post.

I have found both dirt and loam and had no idea what to do with it so donated it to the gods, who were not excited by my donation.

  • Thanks for the improvements and additions this test. Could I just ask you all, did anyone at all get loam from the new dirt piles? I thought it was only earth so stopped paying attention, I don't think I got any. I love the idea of a skill to turn earth to loam...or maybe some kind of chemical we could make with our beakers or test tubes?

I agree with those who are concerned about the apply tree poison being an option on the drop down menu...it doesn't seem necessary and a shame people lost trees they didn't want to. To add to that, I noticed if you are carrying a seasoned bean with you it gives you the option to plant a bean in this menu as well and I think it might even be the default option - this kept getting in the way of me harvesting my patches at home for earth and loam... in the end I just put my sad little wood bean in the cupboard. It just got too much having to constantly evade the plant option.

I see both these items were added to menus to try to be helpful - I suppose they have both good and bad sides depending on what you are trying to do, but it's very easy in Glitch to accidentally click the wrong thing.

  • @xoxJulie: I recommend selling the dirt and loam you get at auction: there is a very high demand for it, and you should be able to easily make a good profit off of it.

I never got any loam from the dirt piles--only dirt. I have soil appreciation IV.

  • I loved this test!  Teleportation tokens are wonderful!  I've been having ongoing problems with my Trophy Case not opening, my Closet not opening, my Garden &/or trees &/or animals not appearing.  Not this test!  Everything worked!  Thank you DEVs!  My one issue was that lag seemed to increase as the test went on.  Friday was fairly fast, Saturday slower and Sunday was very slooooow.  Like the dirt piles.  Would like them much more if you got loam! :) (and yes, I tend first).

  • I still cant figure out what Stoot was saying regarding another thread about time speed skill learning.http://beta.glitch.com/forum/general/4022/ this last test I had for teleporting V a little over 71/2 days.well fed just about every giant shrine and got this skill down to two days and a bit ,still no sign anywhere of you have learned this skill fast enough.if I had more time on Sunday I wonder if it would have gone down to 1 day? question,....... this does not seem like only 50 % to me.now only have 1 day 17 hours to finish.I will never understand why some skills stop you at a point and this one just kept on losing time.(which is not a complaint on my part ) just wondered.Sorry just realized I am off topic here.

  • @ Ghostie: This ties into this thread: beta.glitch.com/forum/gener... Some of us couldn't reduce time by more than a few hours. I too would be very interested in learning more about the super speed learning thing.

  • Thankyou Rachel, even after reading all the urls relating to this everyone seems confused and the last one well,if you dont finish a skill and leave it at 7 seconds or min  and then change to another skill then you dont get the credit for that skill. It has been the most nerve racking part of this game for me, as all I seem to do is mine all day for the giants shrines, going to forget the whole skill deal and make use of my time doing fun things.
Posted 18 months ago by Jellybelly Baby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Ghost
What time did you start learning TP5?  and  Is the "2 days and a bit" what you had left at game close and the "1d 17h is what's left at the time of your post?  Also, don't forget that the time remaining is always ticking down during the test.

In any case, I have the following info for your Glitch:
    BL5,
TP5 will be your 75th skill (74 skills learned)
    Time to learn TP5:  7d 3h 56m 57s
Theoretical max reduction of skill learning time with favour:  3d 13h 58m 23s
    Length of Test:  2d 4.5h

If I assume that you started learning the skill at time 0 (sic 1:30PM PST or approx test start time) and you got max skill learning reduction by spending favour at shrines, the theoretical minimum time remaining to learn TP5 at test close would be 1d 9h 28m 23(ish) s which is much lower than what you've mentioned as (what I think is) the time you got the skill down to by test end.  So, assuming you started learning TP5 sometime before 1 day after the test started, the time you had remaining at the end of the test is well within the realm of possibility for not having maxed out on using favour to reduce skill learning time.

In contrast, I did manage to max out on spending favour at shrines to reduce skill learning time and now have ~1d 20.25 hr remaining.  This is down from an original 10d 5h 9m 30s skill learning time.  So, not hugely behind you in terms of time remaining but with a lot longer initial time to learn the skill.
Posted 18 months ago by Marebito Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Well if any learning like this one is like mathematics and confusing to so many c'est la vie! I have 1 day to finish now and am happy it is over.and really could care less for any explanation as there are so many.but thanks Mare for trying to teach an elder.

  • ghostie - you'll probably have a happier game overall. You've always seemed the sort who is patient enough to wait out a skill time. : ) I'll try and put together something simple and not too math-y.. but I'd still like to know if there's a bug or if there was a tweak to donations/pausing before I do.
