Skills and the Tutorial

Does anyone remember exactly how the game started? I can't recall if the Super Special Awesome Spirit Rock Guide forced you to begin learning a skill as soon as you started as part of the tutorial or something.

I bring it up because I'm hoping to learn Better Learning 1 first and it has a level three requirement. I'd have to do a few things before I'd be that high. So if skills were part of the tutorial I'd have to choose another.

Soooooo, as I asked, does anyone remember?

  • You'll get a quest prompting you to learn your first skill after you leave the start street, so you're not forced to start a skill during the tutorial.

  • Good to know, thank you. :) That was thirty two levels ago so I haven't the foggiest recollection. xP

  • I just did the tutorial or the first time last week.  The rock guided me through basic stuff: water, pet, harvest tree; hoe, plant, water, pet, harvest beans; use signpost; jump & collect quoins; pet and nibble piggy. The rock then gave me some food and drinks and pointed me to the signpost for Heights Start.  After I'd spent a while in Heights Start, I clicked the signpost for Alpine Vista, and then I was prompted to learn a skill.  I don't think I was required to learn a skill then (I was still Level 1), but I don't know for sure.

  • You could also just start learning any old skill then pause it and start Better Learning as soon as you are ready.

  • Yes, but it's guaranteed I'd finish that other skill what with the ridiculously reduced first skill times. It goes back up after the first but, I dunno, I'd prefer better learning to be that first one. It'd offer the most benefit then.

Even if only a few seconds. ;P

  • "It'd offer the most benefit then. "

Even when you factor in the time you have to wait in order to get to level 3? I hope you have your route through Groddle carefully mapped out in order to maximise the number of harvestable trees you pass by per minute of gameplay...

  • This is what the tutorial looked like in May 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OACvMXvsYlA

  • Yep, great video of the tutorial...and don't forget that music block...good xp, and if you opt to sell it some quick currants when you get out into Glitch world. And heck you get 1000 currants for learning that first skill..so even if you want to wait...it's so worth it to get the first on under your belt...then you can get that small bag or fancy pick early on.

  • True, true. It's been so long I can't remember how long it was between one and three xP Just five or ten minutes might not be a big deal. Longer and I'd definitely want to grab my other priorities first xD
