Rethink Usefulness of Announcements Forum

At present, the Announcement Forum is where interesting fun activities go to die/be ignored/become irrelevant. It's a stagnant pond, for the most part.

One thing that would help would be if it were the place where Staff announcements were placed. Then people would actually check it from time to time. Or, of course, it could just be merged back in with General.

I keep anticipating a revamp of the overall Forum structure, which will allow people to, say, subscribe to topics, tag them, up/down vote them and so on. I imagine a Forum portal which highlights the 10 most recently commented-on threads, etc. etc. Is there anything to look forward to along those lines?

In the meantime, I'm watching the wonderful "Where's Bruce?" series die on the vine in the ghetto of the Announcements forum.

  • I want an "all posts" section that just combines all forum topics.

  • You're right Pascale, I read the general and marketplace a few times a day, but Announcements... perhaps once per week, if even.

Looking forward to the overall forum revamp, it is lacking in many areas compared to popular mainstream solutions.

  • +1. I have been wishing I could subscribe to topics for a while now. It's nice that it tracks the topics that you've commented on, but I would like to subscribe to more than just those.

  • Hey! "Where's Bruce?" is not dying on the vine. It's totally on life support in a stable vegetative state.

  • It's true.. I forget about Announcements.  I've probably missed out on something fun.
But, I did not miss out on the Where's Bruce!  I sent my snaps.

I think it would be helpful to have all Staff topics archived in one place.

  • I agree the staff topics would fit better there
I'll make a post later eventually about how "interesting fun activities" should appear on the site :]

  • I'd at least like the thing to say "player announcements" or something, yeah.

  • We should either put the staff announcements there, get rid of it completely, or make a Main Page of forums as the page you enter when you type www.glitch.com/forum/

  • We agree that it is not working too well — and we're big believers in player-run events — so, it will get better.

The original intention was that we add this forum and then switch things around so that there was a new main page of the forums which showed the top threads in each section. First part got done, but the second part kept on getting trumped by other stuff that came up. When that get's done, it should get better. Soooooooooooon.

  • I believe I suggested this at some point in ideas, but I would really love to see a section that contained discussions for all of the groups you were in with each post title tagged by group name. Clearly, it would be different for each player depending on the groups they belonged to.

If you think the Announcements forum is a ghost town, look at those poor orphaned group discussion forums...

  • thx for the update stoot
if that main forum page can also contain sections for each of our groups that's be neat indeed

  • It has been making me feel sad lately to look at the Announcements section and see the low response to player-run events. The main page stoot has described should indeed make it better, so I'm looking forward to seeing that.

    I also like Tribeca's idea.

  • Once again, thanks for sharing the behind-the-scenes.  I don't know how many of us really get how much blood and sweat happens on the other side of the server.  Thanks for keeping us in the loop.
