Players can be horrible. No Joy here.

 <IMPORTANT EDIT! >
Y'all are too generous! Stop giving me gifts!  I'm looking at you, Mollie, Verea, and you Leigh, you are too kind!  I have returned your entirely too generous gifts.  Know that I appreciate everyone's support, but golly you ladies were over the top sweet, made my eyeliner run. <END EDIT>

I was making a donation at Jadraan Fix, when a player accidentally donated a gnome to another player.  I was in the same area, and felt bad, and gave her a music box.  She threatened to report me. The other player admitted she gave it to him and told her he'd given it back.  I don't think she read that, it was in another chat box.
I don't like being blackmailed, but I don't know what will happen if I'm reported, so I told her to wait and I'd get her a Gnome.  It cost me 2400 at auction.  She didn't bother to thank me.

How do I know if she reported me?  I spent so long building this character, I would hate to lose it.

I enjoy this game and would like an opportunity to be vindicated. Will a Mod or a dev check my account for the last five hours and "prove" to the other player I never had her gnome?

  • I'm sorry, what would she even report you for? Even if she accidentally donated a gnome to you, you are fully entitled to keep it and even sell it at auction for a bajillion currents. That might not make you good people, but there is nothing against the rules about doing that. Also you didn't. You did good things. Shrug it off, maybe she was having a really bad day.

  • For one thing even if the player did report you your logs will indicate that you didn't get the gnome and thus you will be in the clear.

Unfortunately there will always be players like the one you described. Best thing you can do is enjoy the game and the company of your online friends.

  • There may be some kinks in reporting, but as far as I know (admittedly, my experience is limited), TS does a pretty stand up job at thoroughly investigating incidents. Please do not take the threat of being reported as any more than, "Oh, you're going to get TS involved? Great, then they can see how you're behaving."

It's a scary idea, and a scary threat, but it's not a threat you should be at all concerned with. Frankly, I think you should report this player and make TS aware of this issue.

  • Thanks. You guys are awesome!
I think I need to take a break though, this experience left me feeling grossed out.

  • Robert Smith, as others have noted, nothing bad is going to happen to your character.  It's unfortunate that you had this upsetting experience, but it may not be feasible for the devs to check your game activity for the past five hours and then track down whoever you were involved with.

In future, if someone threatens to "report" you, consider clicking on Live Help right then and there to get advice.

  • I highly doubt the game would take action against anyone falsely reported. I would have told the girl to report all she wants, its not like theres anything the game is going to do about it.

  • Whenever I deal with a truly icky person, i remember what my mom always said: that someone's behavior towards me always says a lot more about them than me. Please do not stop playing. We need good people like you out there! Be the change ;)

  • wait, she got her gnome back and threatened to report an otherwise unrelated person who gave her a free musicbox?  and bought her a 2nd gnome?  It took me several reads to understand this.

actually I still don't quite understand this.. :/

sorry you had to go through such an awkward/nasty episode :(

  • Fortunately, and thank goodness, most of the people on here are nice. I'm sorry you met one of the exceptions.

  • I'm sorry I wasn't clear, I was upset when I typed the above.
She said that originally had five (FIVE!) and only had four after she tried to donate one, but it didn't go into the shrine.
The third player said that she had given it to him, but I don't think she read that.
I felt bad that she lost the item, so I gave her a music box, I don't get many so I thought she might appreciate it.  She didn't.  She demanded I give her her Gnome, or she'd report me.  I thought I had one at the house, so I told her to wait and I would get her mine. I forgot that I sold my gnome, so desperate, I bought one on auction.
      It was 2400 currants.
I ran back to her and gave it to her.  She didn't bother to thank me.   Anyone who can afford to walk around with FIVE GNOMES has played this game a while, and could afford to at least not be a jerk.

  • Don't be afraid: if you are in the right being reported will have no impact whatsoever on you. TS has the capability of looking through all the logs and will see that the reporter is a liar (or mistaken, in the best case).

Plus, as stated before, not returning something someone freely gave you is not against the rules, and will not get you punished.

  • er fellas... dun take things too hard... sometimes the Glitchen in question may not exactly be of a mature age.

i've spoken to an 8-yr old.. it was trying on the patience but sometimes she said funny things that made me laugh.  when i first met her, i remember she was testing one of the staff's patience too  >.<

  • I am sorry this happened to you Robert! Please don't let this situation sour you toward the game! There are many really nice players here and you sadly got a lemon. I can see you did your best to appease that sourpuss but I think even if you gave her everything you owned that would have not been enough. My suggestion is block her and move on to enjoy the game with the rest of us that enjoy it!

  • Robert, that's just one bad experience. I myself was called a retard for saving a tree (or poisoning it? I have a feeling I may have poisoned it accidentally so I saved it), but for all I know the person was after a quest. Some people have short tempers, or are just having a bad day, so just keep thinking about the good things and move on. It's like that forwarded email about a girl sharing her cookies with a grandma and she thought the grandma had no shame. Everybody loves grandma :D

  • I had an experience like this recently! A group of five or so friends and I have been putting great effort into creating a single-street wood tree preserve. One non-nice individual kept poisoning the trees several times a day, calling himself 'the wood killer' and generally assaulting that street and insulting the people there for no discernable reason.

That is, until we discovered he was killing the trees to inflate his wood tree beans at auction. When I revealed that the wood tree preservation team put their own beans up at more reasonable prices, he called me a griefer and threatened to report me. If he does report me, I'm sure the staff will let him know that just as any player may plant any tree on any street, so too may any player put any item on auction at any price.

  • hmmmm seems I will have to be putting up more wood beans then to help you guys out!
Posted 13 months ago by Casombra Amberrose Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Vermillion, I know one of the guys who is replanting beans at Wickdoon Mood and the events you describe are what happen to him everyday, not the other way around, he has 4-5 stalkers who all gang up together saying every tree must be wood like its some kind of law. Your also one of those who likes to follow that player around all the time when they are in the zone, and also you were the petty individual who undercuts the bean prices to also make a profit from this Tree war. oh thats right, bet you never considered that. well I just checked and he has gone kamikaze on the seasoned bean market lol and Wickdoon Mood keeps becoming a bean field. GTFO

  • Robert, in future, much of this could have been avoided if you hadn't behaved as though you were the guilty party.  Why on earth did you go running off to replace a gnome that you had not taken?  Stand up for yourself and tell the truth and don't cave under spurious threats.  After all, even if she had given the gnome to you, it's her mistake.

  • I think that it's very sad that someone is afraid to be reported. I liked Glitch better when the community guidelines didn't exist.
Posted 13 months ago by Natalia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think it's more sad that dishonest people use reporting as a threat. The moral of the situation is, don't let someone intimidate you. If you did nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about. Next time, you say, "You want to report me? Go right ahead."
Posted 13 months ago by Laerwen Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hmmmmmm........so the phrase "No good deed goes unpunished" is true, sad
Posted 13 months ago by Naiad Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Jehannum: First of all, I don't stalk anyone: my house is on the street right next to Wickdoon Mood, so I'm *always* in the area. Second, Bean trees are everywhere, while wood trees have only that one street. Why attack that one street? It doesn't matter if the wood tree preserve were moved to a different street, this individual would still go to that street and poison everything to fund his bean auctions. The people who plant wood in Wickdoon mood want wood to be available in the wild for ALL players. This person wants it to be available to no one so that they will buy his beans at inflated prices. Third, I suspect you are an alt of his, because I've never seen you with him, but you claim to see me following him around, and I never mentioned the street in question until you did. As for telling me to GTFO, that's just not classy.

  • One downside of making a street all-wood is that pigs will starve there. The idea that what is or is not planted on one street will somehow make auction prices go up or down is just ... mathematically strange.

Streets are shared public spaces. If opposing groups compromise, both sides will save on tree poison and seasoned beans -- not to mention making the game a more happy experience for them all.
Posted 13 months ago by Vocable Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Vocable, you are correct, but you don't understand the motives of this other individual. He does not wish to compromise, he wants to kill all wood trees so that people will buy his beans to replant the wood trees, so he can kill them again.. etcetcetc. Also, I've asked staff in live help about pigs and they say the pigs can migrate from streets if there is no food there. If needed, the wood tree team can also feed the piggies manually. We always have lots of beans handy.
Posted 13 months ago by zZzZzZzZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Vocable,  Well i don't know about you, but I generally feed wild pigs after I've stripped them of their bacon strips, regardless of whether there are bean/bubble/cherry trees there or not. More if I get a superharvest. beans, cherries, and grain are dirt cheap and of little or no consequence to me in the numbers required to give the piggies a treat. Call it stupidity...call it karma, regardless I do it.

@Vermillion, I hadn't thought about the seasoned bean aspect to the mercantile reasons why wood trees are routinely gutted by some players. The general excuse is that there are too many, but I've always suspected that its a pretty cheap way to farm planks for higher level players.

@RobertSmith, as others have said, don't let them get to you. you did nothing wrong and live help is always a single click away. Very nice and helpful crowd at TS...

  • @Vermillion: I didnt see you following him, he was talking to me about it when I was reading this topic, in the same room, he just doesnt waste time browsing this forum :) psibertus picked Wickdoon mood because its a deadend with a shrine to pot and its close to west spice. he sells beans regardless.

  • Hi Robert, something similar happened to me - a player gave me some sparkly instead of donating, at first I thought she had meant to give me the sparkly, then I realised she hadn't meant it - so I gave her the sparkly back but she didn't notice, then she asked me to give her her sparkly, and not in a nice way. I then gave her MORE sparkly and didn't get so much as a thanks. I left that encounter feeling rubbish, and almost felt like giving up.

I didn't though, and in 8 months of playing have only had 2 bad taste moments. (I'm going to avoid Ix though - that's where my other bad taste moment happened. It's too wild and childish there)

  • I've adopted a viewpoint I probably should have had a long time ago- if somebody's unreasonably an asshat, and I've done what I can to assuage their petty rage, then they get the finger and I go do my own thing. I'm not buying anything off auction or emptying my inventory to make nice if I've already given them what they asked for or don't have what they think I do. Report me. Please. There are logs. If the staff decides to investigate, they'll be able to see who was being an ass and who was attempting to be reasonable. That's as far as my responsibility lies in regards to others- I'll be nice, and if that proves to be futile, the other party can get bent. No extra goodies from my inventory, no currants outta my wallet, no skin off my back.
Posted 13 months ago by Djabriil Subscriber! | Permalink
  • When someone drops something on me, I tell them: Whoops you dropped that on me! Then I give it back. then I tell them this is why I use the donate picker and don't drag from inventory :)

If someone were to pitch a fit, though, I'd actually consider NOT giving it back, and donating the item to a new player instead, and tell them so because of their attitude and maybe it's a lesson in learning we shouldn't drag into the shrine when other people are standing in front of it. In no way should I take abuse for someone else's mistake.

  • A Glitch gave me a musicbox while I was donating to a shrine. Figuring it had been exactly this mistake, I promptly gave it back -- not noticing that the Glitch had IMed me suggesting I enjoy the tunes!

So, whoever that was, thank you and I'm sorry I appeared to spurn your generosity!
