So do the Devs support resource route gameplay over Ur gameplay? The Magic Rock sure does.

It seems to me that the mechanics that the Magic Rock uses to aware iMG to players really caters to players who have their houses listed on resource routes. In my opinion this only further removes people from Ur. Now people can receive iMG simply by letting players use their resources, so going to Ur to collect qurazy quoins is much less important now. It seems that the only reason people even leave home streets anymore is to go to Cebarkul to sell their stuff to the Tool Vendor or die and get a drink ticket, or to roam the Ancestral Lands for high yield quoins. I guess people also have to enter Ur to donate to shrines or feed Batterflies too. But other than those 4 activities it seems like home streets are all inclusive now. I didn't really have a problem with it until the Magic Rock showed up. But it seems that in order to get decent iMG from your rock you NEED to make your home a stop on a resource route. Maybe I am overreacting though.

  • The amount of iMG Magic Rock gives is symbolic, I believe you're overreacting.

  • I'm on a resource route and I'm not getting a lot of imagination from the rock. I get more imagination from petting piggies, singing to butterflies, those begging icons, and collecting quoins.

  • I don't think it's that much of an issue. It just depends on how much people care about people visiting them.

It's fair to get some iMG for the use of things you spent iMG to put on your street, whether your street is highly trafficked or not. The more trafficked your street is, the more you ought to get since things will be breaking faster.

I am happy to get a little iMG for people using the stuff on my street, since I doled out iMG for the 'public' use of that stuff. But if no one uses the stuff on my street, and I get no iMG as a result, I'm equally happy. I'm not on a resource route and probably won't be.

  • I agree with you TR - the rock does say he gives more img for the more people do on your street, so having lots of resources there and having a large throughput of people should give you more img, hence seems designed to encourage it. I am kind of enjoying my rather sparse and quiet home street so I think I'll carry on as I am for now :) Certainly makes a change from the mess inside my house!

  • I have gotten about 1100 iMG each day from the rock so far.  One qurazy quoin for me is 738 iMG with my mood >90%.  There's no contest there for me.  It's totally worth it to go through Ur still.  Plus there are no regular quoins on home streets, which are just more and more boosts, especially since no one is grabbing the ridiculously high value ones.

Get out of your homes people!

  • Seriously overreacting.  It will never even give people more than one game day's worth of iMG -- so if I don't log in for a month, it would have the same amount as if I had only been gone for four hours.

Yep, it rewards those of us who are part of HRR, especially us curators as we get a lot of traffic.  And that might even be the intent -- stoot did say they are fans of the resource routes and are looking at features to support them.

But I suspect they had this planned all along.  Not to encourage people to join or use routes, but to reward and support the way they intend home streets to be used -- a space not for our own use but that we provide for others to use.  They've been pretty consistent about listening to the reasons people want private home streets, and then removing that inspiration while not budging on streets being public.

  • Even with a maxed out yard and being on two resource routes at the same time (and a curator of one of them), the amount of IMG I get from the rock is negligible (literally about 2 quarazy quoins or 1 AL quoin worth).  It's far from profitable.  I will always have more IMG put into my yard and resources than I will get out of it.  So yes, I agree with the above posters: no big deal.

  • I am in favor of public streets but I'm not sure how much I like being rewarded for my contributions.  I'll have to think about it.   It kind of makes me wonder just how much I have to make available on "my" home street in order to get the same amount of Img rewards for having visitors.

Before it was just "this is public and I'm just giving something back to game for everyone to enjoy"  now my monkey mind can't help doing the math,  trying to figure out how much of a contribution is optimal and how much is a waste.   Sorry, can't help it.

Its nothing new.  When we contributed to  street projects we were awarded with Img (except I wasn't because of some bug or some reason I never found out so I never worked on another street project...none of that matters anymore but I can't forget it because I gave up on street projects when there seemed to be no benefit for me).     I don't want to be a philanthropist type player just giving stuff away, that is not my style.   I'm also not sure I really want to be rewarded for being charitable.   It doesn't jive with my definition of charity.    I just want there to be a small corner of Ur where we can go to contribute to the public good without expecting anything in return.   I don't care if its community gardens, streets, or something else as long as that space exists and nobody claims dibs on it.

  • I curate a route, but the img rewards from the rock sure won't cause me to put my feet up and kick back in my house or spend all my time on home streets. The extra img is a nice little bonus but is nowhere close to supplanting what I can gain in Ur. I love being out in the world and will continue to spend time wandering, as I always have.

  • I'm on 2 different resource routes and only got around 700 IMG from people stopping by. So like others said, it's definitely not a huge amount anyone is getting.

I can say from experience that running the resource routes is easy but it also gets boring. I've been switching between going out in the world (when I have more free time) and hitting the resource routes.

Being part of the routes already, I can also say that I won't frequent them anymore now than I was before because of this change.

Honestly I would say before worrying that no one will frequent Ur anymore we should give it some time. As far as things go the new houses are just that -- new. People are still exploring the possibilities they allow, and finding out what works for them and their style of game play. I think the longer the housing is out the more and more people will start to move back to Ur and it will be a little more balanced.

  • Well after hearing how much iMG the rock is giving people who are on resource routes I realize it's not that big of a deal. I thought people would be getting like 20K a day from their rocks. Nevermind then.

  • I have seen a number of players claiming that less people seem to be out in Ur, but I question that conclusion.  I spent a lot of time at 4165 Dyran Notion prior to the update, and remember scanning my friends to find someone's location and seeing most of them in or near their homes, frequently.

I think the main thing that has changed is that players concerned about this issue are motivated to scan their friend list now and seeing a lot on home streets or in homes feel that things have changed -- but I doubt many spent much time scanning their friends before the housing update.

  • So if everyone is on the routes, it leaves all the yummy resources that don't spawn quickly for the rest. All the fireflies and jellisacs are MINE!  :)

I love both the routes and the UR resources.  It's all awesome.  So relax and enjoy. And let everyone else enjoy.

  • Jennyanydots

A 'resource route' is someone's front yard, linked to someone else's front yard, that then links to someone else (et cetera, et cetera).  Since no player can currently have foxes or sloths on their property, there's no way to create a resource route.

  • Um, yeah.  Major overreaction.  As others have said, despite being on a resource route, the amount of iMG I get per game day is minimal (between 700-1200 daily).  I've been seeing similar reports from people who probably get yet more traffic than I do, so it seems that there's a curve, or a maximum ceiling of iMG one can acquire per game day from this game mechanic.  That said, it'd be nice if the devs could confirm how this gets calculated, though.

The iMG reward neither gives people who have open resources a major advantage, nor does it punish those who don't want to maintain resources on their street.  Like the restoration project iMG rewards, it's simply an incentive, not an advantage.  It's really not that big of a deal...

  • Heehee, Windborn, I know... I was pointing out a bit of a flaw in the argument that seems to be going around that we 'never' have to leave the home streets and go out into Ur.

(Not that I wouldn't love to have a slinking fox or a rockin' sloth at home...!)

  • I think that was the point Jennyanydots was making, WindBorn. But I might have read it wrong, and it might have been a real question.

Edit: Whoohoo, I read it correctly! :)

  • I don't think I agree it was put in to cater for the routes.  I think the plan was there from the set go which is why Stoot had already voiced that the home streets would be staying public because that was the vision.  I'm not on a resource route and I  still got 700 IMG just now :) I think it's a great addition and the vision (realisation)  I had a while back where the home streets were the new Ur looks like it could actually be happening!  I rarely go into the main Ur now.  I have no need because everything I need ( save for snails and fibre) is just a signpost away :D  Anything else I'll buy at auction.

  • Why the heck is everyone so worried about people going into the world of Ur? I really wish people would stop worrying about what is going to happen to the world. If you're so damn worried about it go into the world yourself and stay there.

It's really ridiculous. Get over it. Thread after thread about this constant worry about the world and Glitches in it. Just go play the game and all will work out. Why is everyone so worried about what other's are doing?

Just play the damn game and stop worrying about what other's are doing. If we want to go into the world we will, if we don't we won't. Plain and simple.

  • I've already responded to this concern in a previous thread, and pardon me but I have yet to see any refutation of my point, let alone a good one.  Do you mind reading it and responding?  Thanks!

In short, there are far more than the four motivations that the OP lists, and I see people pursuing all of them.

  • Remember we are in beta and new players have not been added in quiet awhile. Once things get up and running again we'll all be complaining about all the low level players taking all the Ur-esources.

New Players won't have the benefit of a large amount of imagination to just cultivate there yard to cater to their whims. So they will be out in Ur a lot.  They are more likely to want to wander around getting kurazy quiaoyans and petting, nibbling, harvesting everything in sight.

  • Sauceleh:  I haven't really noticed people complaining about others staying in their home streets.
I have seen reference to "others" complaining  about people staying out of Ur but I haven't actually seen many complaints.   I think there were just a few observations made about it.  I doubt that anyone really cares much.  I don't (except it would be nice to see fellow passengers on the subway, but that is not a complaint)

  • What the panic seems to overlook is that the rock rewards you for other glitches visiting your street, not the other way around.

It in no way influences your gameplay, unless you are utterly pathological in your generosity.

What it might do -- I hope -- is quell the cries of "waah! someone stole the things I knowingly left out in public!" somewhat.

  • Can anyone verify if you get imagination points from the rock for merely using your own resources on your street - with no visitors?
Posted 7 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Really Treesa?  Umm, how about this post?  You either haven't been reading since the release of R3, or you're willfully ignoring those posts.  I don't know which, but since it's been rare that a day has passed where I haven't noted someone pining for the imaginary old days where no one hung out in their home or near it, I have to assume one of the other.  Or the timing for your forum reading has just been fortuitous.

WalruZ is especially guilty, having posted that thought so many times I lost count.

  • +1 Ama-gi and Saucelah

I agree that the actual amount of IMG is usually small and mainly symbolic of Stoot's commitment to his vision for the public streets to remain public.

I love seeing the Rock again and I think his rewards are a sweet way of reminding us to be generous and open.

  • "Get out of your homes people!"  PTB3

Exactly!  I want to get out of my home BUT, I don't want to go to someone else's.  I want to go to Ur and I do when I can find a way to leave my street.  I am gradually getting rid of the resources that tie me to my street.  I am unable to play more than an hour or so at a time and I hate spending my time on a Home Street.

  • "I'm also not sure I really want to be rewarded for being charitable.   It doesn't jive with my definition of charity."

Treesa, I see what you mean about the reward for charity dilemma you posed. However, there are still ways to be charitable without receiving a reward. Have you considered leaving free piles of stuff on a Ur street? Or throwing a party? There are many ways you can still give without being rewarded.

  • I can tentatively confirm that the rock rewards you for your own actions (presumably once per game day).  I was on my home street at the start of the first or second game day after the rock was back in, and he had nothing to say to me.  I fully harvested the jellisacs on my street; at the exact moment I finished the third jellisac scooping, he popped up a chat bubble telling me he had imagination for me.  No one else was on my street or in my house.
Posted 7 months ago by Magic Monkey Subscriber! | Permalink
  • MM - that may or may not reflect your actions on your home street. My Rock has had a bit of a delay between when I enter my home street and when I get notified to collect my iMG. It's hard to say one way or the other.

  • Personally, I love the resource routes and am one of the curators of a route. If you don't like them, just pretend that they don't exist. Also, how does the upgrades target resource route users? Home streets are just like  normal streets. But if you go to a world unexplored, the Qurazy Quoins can provide heaps of Imagination. You can get decent imagination from going in Ur too.
