unlike most avatar systems i've seen, there are a bunch of clothes in glitch that interest me despite my severely limited colour preferences.
that said, i'm having difficulty justifying dropping 3 bucks on an item of virtual clothing that is only "as good" as some other one i like and would wear almost all the time in order to be more instantly recognizable to friends.
the following are suggestions of things that might prod me into changing my outfit more often.
1] clothes that have game-play benefits, like a Miner's Helmet improving mining skill. this would prompt changing outfits depending on the environment.
2] clothes get dirty, so that after a certain period of use they get dingy looking and your mood starts to drop. unused clothes would "clean themselves up" over time, and you could do laundry to speed this process. this would prompt changing outfits on a regular basis.
3] clothes that have a "schmancyness" rating. going into certain "fancy schmancy" locations while wearing clothes below a certain schmancyness rating would lead to a drop in mood due to violating the dress code.
4] clothes that are event specific. things like party hats. perhaps these could be handed out by the evet hosts.
other suggestions for prompting outfit changes would be appreciated.
p.s. regarding laundry .. it would be really cool to have a backyard laundry line where clothes hang up to dry, although that might be impossible given the existing art assets. it might not look as good as a front facing view but perhaps using the "climbing mode" versions of the clothes could work on a clothesline.
