Mules

I have read here in the forums that it is against the TOS to have more than one account. I have never found a TOS to verify this. On FS I had many accounts , one or more for each holiday (since I gave them away as prizes) but they were all active accounts , at least part of the year. I did it for convenience since each was decorated for that holiday and because I needed that many friends lists (there was a 300 cap) for the contests and things. Many others had extra accounts called mules that they primarily used as a means to replay the game and goals over again and earn extra lux (FS version of currants) and would pass the earnings back to their main accounts. Others used their mules to plant hundreds of food trees in. Some, myself included (again for prizes), could earn extra holiday decorations because some of the non repeatable goals awarded those. Others did it for more fauna, some had an entire sphere/account for each species.

The thing is, I can't think of a viable reason to have a mule in Glitch. I myself can change my name for each holiday if I wished, I need not worry about my friends list overflowing (yet?) and since you don't earn objects as goal rewards and can't transfer XP or currants (ok you can if you are creative but ...) what I want to know is what is the point of having more than one account on Glitch ? It seems to me the only way to progress is through time spent and splitting the time between accounts isn't really helpful.

  • A lot of our GNE bunch stopped playing months ago, a big vacuum that was ready for the FS crowd to fill.  The only real effect on me is more people, more forum posts, don't want to invest the time to read every post.  I've read all the Mules posts.

The KOL clan has been just me since April.  A couple of others play a few days and take weeks off, then come back...

  • Hey, guys, I feel very bad if the FS group has upset and ruffled feathers in any way because the people who came over from FS are some of the nicest folks I've ever met and would never intentionally upset anyone. I think we were just so happy to have somewhere to hang out together again that we're just chattering a lot and mentioning the game...but I know many of us have made lots of new Glitchy friends as well. And we have several members in the Faunasphere Refugees group who didn't play FS; we're quite happy to welcome others in; I'm sure it can be hard not to feel crowded out when a large number of people have a common point of reference in their past. I've actually been making a conscious effort to try not to mention FS in the forums anymore (except here of course because at moment it came to be part of the subject of discussion) just because I know it can seem clique-y to keep mentioning it.... Love, love, love my FS friends, and I love, love, love my new Glitch buddies, too. Hopefully, we can all accommodate each other and reach out to each other more and more as the testing progresses. Hugs all!

P.S. So, um, yeah, on the actual forum topic...think I'll still hold off on a backup account.

  • I think the reason we landed a bit hard when we got here was due to the grieving process. We banded together pretty tightly over the death of FS. For me, the more I play Glitch the more I realize I enjoy it more. I stick to the fsr chat channel for the most part in game because there is just so much to see and do and switching channels is not high on the list.  I will try to branch out and be more relaxed when I play and stop to say hi to more and more people. I think the test length makes it harder to connect to new people though, since we are all trying to get as much done as possible before they kick us out. Most everyone who was here when we landed has been gracious and kind to us. I thank you for that from the bottom of my heart. This is an amazing game and without you it would never be the same. Hang on and it will all come out in the wash.

Back to topic: I don't think I would use a mule here. Maybe once I get to the end of the quests I might change my mind, but for now this is all i need.

    Hugs to all.

  • I can't speak for other players but this (Glitch) is only my second MMORPG on-line game I've ever played. My husband is a long time WoW, Evony, ex-Star Wars Galaxy player and tells me that I should play at my own comfort level...either solo or in group, whatever makes me the happiest.

Becauser Glitch has a more complex navigational system, I have not practiced playing in a group much because, quite frankly, I suck at jumping and climbing, and excel at falling and running into walls, I cannot touch type, I get sidetracked by all the oooooh-Shiny-!-New Stuffes-! way too often and forget my initial foraging purposes....
So I find that I don't spend much in-game time playing with all my ex FS friends. There's just too much to do, places to go, projects to join, etc, etc. and all this stuff must be accomplished solo.

My point is, yes there may appear to be droves of tightly clustered, socially bonded ex FS players running rough shod over everybody else but, ultimately, we're all in this Beta version for Tiny Specks' evolving gaming analysis. Perhaps when the game goes live there will be time and purpose for some of us to spread out more, meet, join and forge partnerships with others. We will just have to wait and see.

  • I think Glitch was lucky in getting the FSR influx. I'm not just saying that for more hugs and kisses...seriously.

The word clique is also weird, as I can't figure out if the clique is the invaders, or the invadees. Pot or kettle. I didn't come in as a part of any group (OG or secondary), so I've had to fend for myself anyway.

Kinda reminds me of people who "discover" a new band, but stop listening to them after they become popular. If they sell out, that's one thing. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to make much sense.

I, for one, welcome our new FS overlords. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86zPFR4R0Ko)

Oh yeah...on topic...I'd love to have an alter ego after the next reset, mainly to learn the other half of the skill tree.

  • I completely understand why the FS group is sad...That said, I will add that my first impression was that FS was brought up a lot, and to be honest that did mildly annoy me. It doesn't any more, and I was never angry. My train of thought was basically that this is a new game, and since I never played FaunaSphere, it was a bit frustrating to have it brought up all the time. I guess I was just wanted to focus on Glitch, since that's what testing is about. HOWEVER, at this point I don't mind, and I understand the FSRs a bit better :)

    ^My 2 cents, for what it's worth.

  • Hmm. OK, so I thought I'd just pop into the FSR group and say "Hi", and once joined, I'm told: "You do not have permission to view this group's discussions."

Has someone been diddling in the "Modify Settings" page?

  • LOL, dopiaza & Cupcake, yep a Glitch glitch. We had had to create a noncategorized category for a variety of reasons and now for some silly reason all the new members come in that way, and I've been trying to keep up with switching peeps over asap. I'm going to see if I can fix that. I also added a new "welcome" thread for non-FSers, too :D Cheers!

  • I am sad that this thread has flown off track but so happy to see someone say how the FS invasion has affected the Glitch universe.
Reposting from my locked group (locked because I didn't want it to be another FS smoochfest):
"As much as I loved FS, I do not believe we are superior to others and am sick of what I see as the us vs. them attitude. A Glitchy community is what I want!"

and my unpopular statement in Refugee group
"Sorry for any hurt feelings over SCOOT. I am the evil instigator. Looking for project focus without chit chat and FS superiority complex. Ask for invite and you're likely to receive. I don't see anything shaping up until everyone gets his/her wings, feet, hooves etc. It may never amount to anything. Que sera sera"

<Please let me know if SCOOT is for you.> I do know about New Streets but never saw much action or communication in its chat.

I'm not known for my subtlety. I even left the FS group for a few days (currently feeling the boot a'kicking me). Sometimes folks just can't see what they are doing or how it all comes over. If you've ever been the new boss or second wife or something, and everyone always tells you how the old boss/wife used to do things, you get how some of the chatter can be like a slap in the face. Anyway, so sorry for the invasion.

Back on topic: I love the idea of having multiple characters. As much as I'd like an account with a home in every region, I don't think I could do them all justice.

Apologies for bluntness or what seems like unnecessary commentary. Sometimes I just have to vent.

  • Hehehe, JW. Because I think you have valid points, I added a new thread in FSR specifically to welcome new friends. I'm hoping that'll help us reach out more and just be aware of it.

On topic again: And yeah, while I'm holding off on a mule for now, man, I'd love to have them. Even just to have a couple homes...that'd be fun!
Posted 20 months ago by RM Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It's lovely that you've created a thread to welcome non-FS friends. But, see, why would I even think to use one of my limited number of group memberships to join a group called "FS Refugees" in the first place, when I had never heard of FS before everyone landed here, and I am not a refugee from that game? It's a nice gesture, but I'm not sure it's going to accomplish what you're hoping for. Perhaps when there are more ways for new groups and associations to form within Glitch, we'll see the true emergence of new communities, rather than merely the continuations of pre-existing ones (and I speak as a GNE player who does understand the natural tendency to hang with those you've bonded with in a past life...).

  • Well and one of the ideas kicking about in there is to rename the group at some point, too, Eleanor... and we do still keep getting new members from friends we make in game, so that's why the thread....anyway...good points, all :)

  • Even if the FS groups were exclusive and snobby and such, it wouldn't make any difference.

So to answer the first post, the value of mules is that it's ok for players to be snobby.
Posted 20 months ago by Tingly Claus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • On topic:

If I were to ever make a mule account, it would be from curiosity to try a different style of play and road to follow. I really wouldn't want a second account though and would greatly prefer having the option to have a couple of characters on the same account so that I could satisfy my curiosity. And maybe a character reset button of some sort. I probably wouldn't ever want t reset my original character that I did a lot of work on, but a secondary character would be fun to reset from time to time to try new things.

    On the side groups subject:

I have come here through 2 friends that I knew from another, very different game (that died a horrible death as well about 8 months ago- my condolences to the people that played that FS game that died).

It's a little intimidating to reach out to a new player base that you're not familiar with, but this definitely seems like a great one to join, so I believe eventually everyone will break out of their shells that are, perhaps at this point, defined by the games and communities they came from- especially after the game goes live.

That said, I have felt very welcomed so far (though I've mostly been quiet and observational) and really look forward to running into some of you in the game world once it is open again, and I know what people are talking about from experience rather than reading.

  • To get this on track Divine,by reading Stoots reply we will have more than one avatar allowed into one account .So why bother clogging up servers for a mule.As for groups ,on next reset they go anyway and everyone will be public no matter what you want to call yourselves now.when those doors open for the public who by the way may become your best buddy from some other game,we will all be like new glitch babies all washed of old ideas and awaiting at the door of the lizards to get us our papers and card for subway .lol

  • It's not clear that groups will disappear when the game is reset.

So far, everything that was listed as being "saved" was individual account stuff.  No one has said that forums, groups, or the encyclopedia will be reset.

And back to the original question, everything gets wiped except:
    • your avatar/customizations/owned clothes
    • your credits balance
    • your name
    • your profile (anything you've filled out)
    • your friends list
    • a few custom/special items (yeti and bunny, so far)

  • So, you really think that the encyclopedia, the forums, and the groups will be wiped?

The list you posted, which is what I was referring to, is only talking about individual accounts.

That sounds unlikely, but stoot will probably let us know tomorrow whether it's just individual accounts that will be reset, or whether the forums and groups will disappear too.
Posted 20 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I doubt the groups and forum will be reset. I just think Stoot didn't think to mention that in his original post because he was only thinking about individual accounts, like WindBorn said. The forums and groups have never been deleted in previous resets.

  • It helps if you post the quotes in context.  As you can see, the original question was "What do we keep", and was about how individual accounts would be treated during the reset.

To expand that answer beyond the original question is making a pretty good leap in logic.

  • I don't view the FSR's as a clique at all, more like a starting point. I have met a bunch of non FSers here that I absolutely adore. I may have come in an FSR but I'm a pure Glitch now. And by the time this baby goes live FS will be but a distant memory and the newbies will look at ALL of the Alpha/Beta testers as an "elite group".

I wouldn't blame them if they wanted to reset the forums before live, cause it's kind of a hot mess. Thanks to everyone who responded on topic and off, hopefully there is something in here that will help the devs that they haven't already considered and even if not, I enjoyed reading everybodies thoughts.

  • on topic..I think that having more than one avatar in game would make it unnessary to have mule accounts, much can be done as different avatar in game, if you are able to use that avatar in ways that can make your game change by using that character to enhance your game and skills. I'd like to be a guy glitch sometimes instead of a girl, just to roam the world to see if guys are treated any different. Might be fun. Can think of a lot of things might want to do with different characters.

On the topic of us ex FS players, I was with the game for about a year and a half, but I mostly played solo, but through the forums I felt like I knew most of the players that have moved on to this wonderful game, and it has made me fell like I've come home. Once you get to know us I fell that you will have a friend for life. We lost our game, but we could not lose each other, so here we are and we hope to make more friends for life, Glitch friends :)

  • If I had a mule, I'd use all the energy in my mule to cook, then transfer everything to my main so that I won't have to use energy to gain energy. I would also dump all my emblems in the mule's house to store. Another point, since we can't have multiple houses, a mule equals another house (provided you are willing to spare the currants, which at 7000++ currants I am) and another house equals more gardens and tree patches. In FS I'd make mules to decorate or produce eggs, the former being more common. After all, I really can't spare the bux to buy an extra sphere.
Posted 20 months ago by KitkatCat Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have no need for a mule now or in the future. In FS I held off till about 2 wks before the shut down. It was free so it didn't matter. The reason I didn't do it there was because I had everything I needed in my one account and thought it would be difficult to keep up with two accounts (it was). When I finally did it, it was because I wanted to view the "start" process over again and see what had changed. The tutorial improved but the overall game play was the same. I didn't get a chance to fully explore all the trading between accounts that some have discussed. However, with so many friends in game, I would expect no need for this kind of thing because one could just put out a request (or look at the auction page) and acquire what they needed. So just like in that game (which was very similar in many respects) I don't see the benefit to acquiring a mule except to have an additional house space/character with which to play.

  • Another reason people had (multiple) mules in FS was the Daily Goodie Bag. That will not be an incentive in Glitch.
Posted 19 months ago by MaryLiLamb Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The only reason I would use a mule and did so at FS was to play alone totally. I need me time and it was a great way for me to do that. My mule account was free and when I NEEDED my safe haven It was my familiar friend. I had no friends on that account and didn't want any. I never posted in the forum under this mule It was exclusive to me just for ME.
Posted 19 months ago by tweetypie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I had a couple mules in FS but almost never played with them. This is mostly because I had so much to do in my main account that I had no reason to go and waste my limited time in another account. The most use I found with them was towards the end, when the rules were changed for our benefit to allow for more mutations so people could accomplish as much as possible before the game closed. I played one of my mule accounts which had barely made it past the tutorial for awhile just to see how the game dynamics had changed because of this, and was amazed to see how much variety I got in breeding with almost no effort--I was getting rare species and patterns naturally, when it took me a couple years of head-ache (and some gene food) to accomplish that in my main account.

So, the only advantage I can see with mule accounts (for me personally) is in testing different scenarios to see how things could have been. Otherwise, I'd like to just focus on one.
Posted 19 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Lol Tingly, overlapping. I definitely don't need a mule. The only benefit of a mule right now is, mule's can collect 100 currant quoins and trade with your main glitch. But this is silly because this is against TOS and you can make 100 currants with less hassle and time with your main glitch.

  • gia I think you meant to write credits.
Posted 19 months ago by Gruff McGruff Subscriber! | Permalink
  • No, fairly sure she meant currants. Currants are the in-game currency. Credits are things you buy to purchase clothes in the Wardrobe.
Posted 19 months ago by Cupcake Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ty cupcake. Gruff I did mean currants quoins, the free coins (100 per game day) you can collect in game. And I miscalculated, the quoins are worth 6 currants each, so that is 600 free currants per day if you gather currant coins. I personally prefer to gather the xp ones, and I don't believe in having a mule.
Posted 19 months ago by gia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • actually, the quoins are worth different amounts depending on your level.

  • I had lots of mules in the (must not be named, lol) last community game I played, mostly for decorating them. I can't really see how I would use one here tho. The mule would just take time away from my first av. I guess you could use it to repeat some of the quests, that could be fun. And it'd be a way to do the unrepeatable Tower quest again. We can change the look of our av so much that I don't anticipate needing second one, either. I just love the things we can do here!

  • I'd love to be able to have more than 1 house to experience the world from a new neighborhood.  I suppose I could move from house to house to try them out, but I'm not crazy about the idea of having to regrow trees and hatch new babies, ur fauna ur pigs, butterflies and chickens.  That could entice me to have a mule if it wasn't specifically prohibited.  Of course if we are allowed to have more than one home in one account or attach a home to each avatar of that account, then I'd have no reason for a mule. I do get a bit tired of trekking through the same scenery each time I leave my house, but it isn't really a big deal if no mules are allowed, I'll adjust.

I think I'll just leave it at that and stay off the "off topic" discussion
