Whimsical Wednesday - Houses Release 3

The game is now open! Check the new thread for feedback: http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/20792/

------

The game is currently closed until sometime Thursday morning, Pacific time. The conversion process is running slower than anticipated, and we want to make everything goes just right, so we will not be open until we are ready.

------

Good morning campers!

Today brings release 3 of the new housing system, marking a full reset of houses.

The game will be closed for a few hours while we perform the reset
.

Do not be alarmed! Only houses are being reset.

After the reset is complete, your house will have been reset to the starter size, with no cultivated items and no furniture. Any upgraded furniture in your house or your furniture bag will be removed. You'll be given a small set of starter furniture in its place.

When you enter your new house after the reset, any items that you had in your old house or your testing house will have been moved into your new residence. Just unpack your moving boxes to get started.

A single moving box will contain multiple boxes for the old house, your test-house home street, test-house backyard and each floor of your test-house.

So that's what the reset entails, but what about new stuff? Well...

Furniture can now be crafted by players. Get building!

‌• Your new houses will now have their own web page, linked from your profile. You'll be able to easily visit other people's home streets from there (as well as from their "info pane" in the game client).

Once you've chosen/purchased a furniture upgrade, that choice is 'sticky'. If you upgrade a chair to style A, then switch it to style B, you'll later be able to switch back to style A at no cost. The same applies to your house chassis.

The initial furniture we give you is soul-bound. This means you can't give it away to other players. Other items may gain this property in the future.

Furniture can now be traded - either by using the 'give' verb, dragging it to another player or using the player-to-player trading system. You'll get an extra warning when you try to trade upgraded furniture. Auctions for furniture will be added in the near future.

Furniture should no longer drop through the floor when you're placing it on your 2nd floor. Or your 3rd - houses can now be 3 floors tall.

All street styles now have music.

Furniture items all have their own web pages, as do the upgrades. You can browse and bookmark your perfect setup while you're waiting for the reset.

The furniture bag is now sorted, to make finding your furniture easier. And it'll now be accessible anywhere in the world, to allow your to trade your items.

The old houses are fading away. Visit the abandoned apartment blocks to reminisce.

There's probably some more stuff hidden in there too, so take a look around, kick the tires and lets us know what you think.

update #1: The housing FAQ has been updated.

update #2: The reset is taking longer than expected - the game will be closed until Thursday morning, pacific time. We are being EXTRA careful with the migration since no-one wants the movers to lose a single precious item.

  • I think everyone liked the once-per-hour updates we got when the game was closed for the Upgrade upgrade...

ETA, thanks for the time estimate, Bees!

  • "Yeah, it's been "four-ish" hours. Please let us in" - you can go in when it's done, and not a moment before!

  • @Bees! My long standing suggestion for obtaining Honey has been little Bunny Rabbits. There'd be seasonable Bunny Eggs, which we can incubate and grow into baby/adult bunnies. Those bunnies can then be named, petted, and shaken for honey. Yes, shake a bunny for some honey. :)

They'd follow the rules of pigs, chickens, and butterflies. AK skills will improve how much honey you get per shake, and later allow multiple shakes instead of one, so on and so forth.

TL;DR Bunnies are cute, totally want them in my yard, and they'd make an excellent source of honey (by shaking them!). :D

  • All the Guides are taking this time to make pots of coffee and limber up our typing fingers so we'll be ready to answer the multitudes of questions... as soon as we figure out the answers, of course.

I'm ready Zany. I have "I don't know - have you tried it? Try it & see. Be sure to report back once you find out" copied into my clipboard so I can answer questions as fast as possible.

  • Lorraine, your suggestion is far more cute than mine of Honey Buckets found by the side of the road...

  • Honey should come from bunnies, better still from flying bunnies :D. You feed em flowers, then collect their poop after which you ferment their poop in your still (like brewing) then decant into honey pots :)

ETA, yay Loraine thinks bunnies too :DDD

  • I would love for some of those super-saturated mushrooms and flowers in places like Berecroy Woods to be pickable and used to make honey.   They are overflowing with sugary goodness.

  • My suggestion for honey is adding a new animal. Honey should come from (honey)Badgers

  • A little sad because I couldn't get back in after running the tests.

HAPPY DANCE!!!  Everything being put in boxes instead of just falling to the floor!!  Thank you so very much for that part. Will be much more organized and easier to put together.

Hopefully will get in after this reset. If I can't, I'll look for you kevbob!!!! LOL

  • I think we should all get Honey from Bees! Even if it means dressing windborn up as winnie the pooh and sending him on a mission! Well Bees? We gonna steal your honey :)

  • Honey bears? Honey dew... I like the mushroom idea. Then you could squeeze out the honey to get a plain mushroom too.
I'd like to have to climb trees to get it, so bee hives in trees, and oven gloves to protect hands. And a max time you can harvest befor the bees get antsy and chase you off. Even better if the bees look like bees! Hahaha.

  • Yay!!! I got home from work again, and this is just like last week!!!!! I LOBE YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!!!

  • I think it would be awesome to create a type of theme park, where old style houses are exhibited, fully decorated, and players can walk through them (but not touch/move/pick up anything) and reminisce about the olden days ~much like today's castles open their gates to the general public and/or have guided tours . There could also be an arcade where mini games could be accessed, and souvenir shops, etc.
Jethimadh Tower could be the Glitch version of the Silver Globe in the Epcot Center, in Disney World.

  • I think you just need to get rid of the honey altogether. It's too abusive towards bees. Switch it to Agave plants. We could harvest the plants and make Agave nectar. It is an excellent sweetener that is very close to honey. You can also make tequila from it too! but then we need limes. There arn't any limes. Plenty of salt though!

  • I too would love climbing trees to get to beehives, but I also love mushrooms, so I like that idea too. How about evil little mushroom men live in the beehives instead of bees?

  • Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes!

  • We'd get honey by collecting a special kind of Dew found only in mountainous Aranna and distilling it down to optimal sweetness in our Stills. Of course the item would have to be called Mountain Dew.

Edit: Understandably, due to the phosphorescence of Arannian mornings the resulting honey would be a sort of neon yellowish color.

  • I moved all my items myself. Will I lose my piggies and butterflies? and what about all my items in the cabinets? will they be lost? or are they packed also?
    I had many igots pre-made.
OMG! how about my Giant Icons, they were at the new housing site! Ouch! are they safe?

    I want a honey badger.

  • This is exceptionally exciting!

Most impressed with all of Bees! answers to the questions, and yes, I did actually read the 10 pages of comments...I have visions of you with a magic 8 ball, for the answers though...lmao...

    and poor poor Myles...hang tough!!

and poor elf...still looking for those onion rings...I'd share mine, but they have ketchup ALL over them....mmmmmm...

Yippie for starter furniture...that is so much more than I expected!  Love the new additions to the furniture upgrade selections. And so glad made furniture will be tradeable!  Looking forward to getting started...fingers crossed for some sandy beach background motifs for our streets...

Don't throw out your backs moving all our stuff!! ((((hugs)))) and lots of beers for the devs!

Honey should come from a squeeze bottle. Shaped like a bear. But, if you don't squeeze just right....out comes vinegar.

  • jiva, what an awesome idea:

Pick one of those HDR blue mushrooms, squeeze it and get some honey and some mushrooms.  Gets two of the grocery-vendor items into the game in one fell swoop.
