Did you recently buy a funpickle from a tower for 10k? (Resolved, hooray!)

I know this is a long shot but I thought I'd give it a try.

My friend is an inexperienced player who doesn't play often and doesn't speak English very well. He recently reached level 18, and I've been helping him build his tower, which he's very excited about. I explained to him how to use SDBs to sell things, as he was running low on funds and wanted to buy the tower supplies that he didn't have the skills to craft himself yet. He doesn't have a good grasp of how much things are worth, though.

Sometime in the past few days he put his funpickle up for sale in his tower for 10k. I didn't figure this out until earlier today, when we were in his tower and I saw the ghost in the SDB. I wasn't in time to catch it and return it to him, and now I feel terrible for showing him how to sell stuff this way without having clarified that some items are worth far more than others. He knew the funpickle was valuable, but he had no idea just how valuable.

If you bought his funpickle, would you consider selling it back? I know it's unreasonable to hope someone would sell it back for the 10k she or he paid, but I'd offer a million currants, and then I could sell it in a proper auction in the Marketplace forum and give the proceeds to him.

In addition to the million currants, you'd make a friend for life. Me, I mean. And my friend, too. That's two lifelong friends! Even though I'm not really very friendly and I tend to scowl a lot. My friend is super sweet, though, and not scowly at all. Okay, this is why I should never be left in charge of posts where I'm trying to reach the good in people. I need to scowl less, huh.

Look! It's my HAPPY FRIENDLY FACE. I'm making HAPPY FRIENDLY HOPEFUL FACE! I'm making it really, really hard.

  • I didn't buy the funpickle though, if I had, I would return it free of charge simply because of your post. It takes a lot to amuse me and you succeeded with your last two paragraphs. And that is priceless.

    Good luck!

  • I hope your friend gets it back! You're also a good friend for helping him look for it. :-)
    Best of luck!

  • I didn't buy it, but what a sweet post. I hope your friend gets the funpickle back!

  • I wish I had bought it, then I would give it back at cost, and high five you with an emotional bear. I might even try and erase your naturally scowly tendencies by hugging you AND kissing you. Then again, that might make you scowlier.

Best of luck, if I hadn't promised mine to someone who wants it really, really bad, I'd sell mine to you.

  • how sad!  how about putting "1 million reward"  or "reward" in the subject line?  the one who bought it might not be reading this if they are afraid they'll be expected to sell it back for 10k.  ya never know, it could work!!

  • Your posts amuse the heck out of me, and if I had bought the pickle in question, I would give it back with the caveat that you write for my paper.  :P

I hope you are able to find who bought it and I hope they'll give it back.

  • I will add 100,000 currants. That will bring the reward for bringing back the funpickle to a whopping 1.1 million. Easy money!!

  • I will match Tricky's 100,000 currant donation to the cause. 1.2 mil!
Posted 71 days ago by Perion Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Add another 100k. 1.3 mil
Posted 71 days ago by malo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Aww, sorry to hear =[ Hopefully you get it back =]

    I'll add 100k as well making 1.4m for a safe return ^^
Posted 71 days ago by Bunnykins Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Make that 1.5M.  I'll toss in 100k, as well.

  • I would donate money, but I don't have any. Anyway, I hope that your friend gets his pickle back, and kudos to the person if they see this and give it back! :D

  • Wow, this game is full of amazing people. Although the original buyer is still out there somewhere, thanks to HitGirl and another donor (whose name I'm not sure it's okay for me to disclose), I now have not one but TWO funpickles in my inbox, plus I just noticed a new mail message and attached is an additional 100k in currants that someone just sent (not sure if I can use that person's name either, ha).

So send no more pickles! Send no more donations!

I am off to the Marketplace to auction HitGirl's pickle off, and have sent a reply to donor #2 (with the plan to return that pickle as soon as I get back into the game). Donor #3, I'll be returning your 100k as soon as I get back into the game, too.

And I just want to say ... this is the kind of thing that makes me adore this game. I'm really just overwhelmed at the generosity and kindness. So thanks a lot for pushing me into a public mushy moment, all of you. I'll get you for this.

  • I was curious as to how an inexperienced level 18 acquired a funpickle in the first place, unless he or she was an original Beta player who stepped away from the game for awhile. I wish I had a funpickle at level 18! :)

  • I'm confused, why are you auctioning off the pickle HitGirl sent you to replace the one that was sold accidentally?
Posted 71 days ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Everybody who had a funpickle had it at level 1.  Sort of that was why they gave them.  The reset and all that.
Posted 71 days ago by Feldspar Gravity Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I dont think shes trying top return his pickle, I think shes trying to get the currants it should have sold for? I dunno
Posted 71 days ago by Muncey Mango Subscriber! | Permalink
  • shhexy corin, my friend wanted the money more than the pickle, but didn't realize how much it was worth. He didn't accidentally sell it, he wanted to sell it but he mistakenly priced it way too low. He isn't super savvy about rare items, and I felt bad about showing him how to sell stuff without cautioning him about rare stuff. So I was trying to get the pickle back so I could sell it for him for a more appropriate price. The original buyer still has that 10k pickle, but HitGirl generously donated one, and I am selling that one in order to give my friend the money he should have gotten originally.

This all makes sense in my head!

  • Was your friend able to check the list of visitors with the Butler?
Posted 71 days ago by TomC Subscriber! | Permalink
  • the butler is unreliable anyway.
Posted 71 days ago by Sororia Rose Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I thought of trying to talk him through that, TomC, but communicating via written word is not his strong point, and it seemed easier to make a public appeal.

Also, to update: Pickle #2 is now in the mail on its way back to its donor, ljayon, and the 100k that welshcorgi generously sent to the reward fund is being returned by mail as well. And pickle the first is up for auction in the Marketplace. Yay! Happy endings for all!

    You guys rock!

  • What's his first language?  It's possible, in the cosmopolitan community that is Glitch players, that there's someone here who can communicate with him in a way that's more comfortable for him.

  • Update: This story gets better and better! I just heard from MaryLiLamb, the person who originally bought the 10k pickle four days ago. Although she wanted to return the pickle, she didn't want to just leave it with the butler or put it into the mail, so she left a note with the butler instead. But my friend either didn't know how to retrieve it or didn't understand what MaryLiLamb was trying to say.

But MaryLiLamb saw this thread and has given me the original pickle -- refusing all the reward money -- and now I'm waiting for HitGirl to come back into the game so I can return hers to her. Then tomorrow after I sell the original pickle, I can give my friend his millions of currants, and he can build the rest of his tower. He will be so excited.

So hooray! Everybody wins! No pickles were lost or sacrificed, and we all gained warm fuzzy feelings.

Except me. I don't do that warm fuzzy stuff. Ack! Get it off. Getitoff!

  • Having played Glitch for several hours a day for more than a year I finally sensed burnout approaching and have taken a break from the game for a while. But I know I'll be back so I keep in touch by reading the forums to 1) keep up to date on new game developments so I won't be totally lost when I check back in and 2) read posts like this one to always remember what  a beautiful community this is!

  • There seem to be a lot of 'rare' Pickles readily available to be given away.

  • I suppose it's possible to read all sorts of things into anything involving rare items, but I don't see it so much as a lot of rare pickles suddenly and suspiciously available to be given away. I see it as a rare (in being so public) display of some amazing kindness and generosity.

  • Well said Sirentist!  Well said.  I'm so happy things worked out...in my world they always do..gosh that's why I play Glitch!!!!!

  • Not everything is a conspiracy.

    1.  I know people that currently or at least at some point in time owned multiples of such one-time only rares, because a friend leaving the game gave it to them to do with as they please.

    2.  If I owned a pickle, I would give it away without hesitation, at least I would if the GnG had already been obtained.  The pickle itself is neat and all, but it doesn't do anything that would make me feel that I must keep it until the servers shutdown.  Plenty of people out there not falling over themselves to obtain them, and plenty of people have them that don't care one way or the other about them.

    3.  Two pickles that people do not want are not "a lot"

  • Awesome ending to the story, maybe edit the heading Sirentist so that people will know a) that all is well and b) that there is some amazing people in this land called Ur.

  • Hey, I wasn't suggesting a conspiracy, heck, if I had more than one Pickle than I would happily pass it on. I just wondered why or how so many people had more than one.

Okay, so maybe I was playing devils advocate.
    A bit.
