Real Estate

Because im one of the few who just recently got their invitation I didn't really have a chance to look at the Real estate system so i just had a few questions and because i cant find anything anywhere about it i m hoping some of you can answer.

1. Can we buy more than one house?
2.Can we sell those houses to other players?

  • 1. No you cannot own more than one house currently, but I assume as different types of buildings become available that that may change.

    2. I believe when you sell a property, you just sell it back for less value and it goes back on the market. So as of now, you cannot make a personal sale to another player.

    Hope this helps!

  • alpha.glitch.com/realty/ shows all available (and unavailable) property.

This is one of the parts of the game which isn't explained to new players. When I first started playing, I had no idea that houses existed, and only found out when I accidentally clicked on a sign post leading to an apartment building. Then I stumbled across the above URL somehow, and purchased a house without knowing what the inside would be like.

It also took quite a while for me to find out that auctions are part of the game, mostly because I wasn't talking to other players much, if at all, for several days. Perhaps the home page should display links to the realty and auctions pages, just to give people some chance at independently learning about them.

  • Links to realty and auctions are already there, but I take it you mean for them to be up top with home, profile, skills,...

Keep in mind, the dev's have said many times - houses are one of the things they are still developing. Personally, I like those links being at the bottom of the page. You'll use them right until you purchase a home, then never at all. The upper portion of the page is all of the frequently used links, so the placement makes sense.

The concept of a house in Glitch is poorly explained, as are most of the Out-Of-World items. I assume it's because they are back-burner items. Enjoy the reading, and again... stuff changes!

  • Yes, sorry, I should've been clearer. I'd put the links to realty, auctions, leaderboards, wardrobe, vanity, skills, etc. into a drop-down menu at the top, because the current layout is a bit scattered, and I hadn't even noticed a couple of the links. Personally, I enjoyed figuring out the game, and asked very few questions, but a lot of new players seem frustrated by a lack of information. A single list would be helpful in that respect.

  • When the world is live, all of those links *are* in a drop down... the button is just above all of the chat stuff. It's somewhat painful for us, because the world is closed most of the time, but this will not always be the case. We have time to sit and mess with everything, and debate the flow of things, but truthfully - when the world is live we're pretty wired up.

  • I think we're supposed to debate the flow of things, make suggestions, and hopefully improve the game. Other than the sign-out option, I don't remember what's in the pull-down menu during game play because, as you implied, when the game is live, we're engrossed by game play, and not necessarily looking at the menus. We've just had an influx of new testers, many of whom are eager to learn more about the game in between tests; the more we can learn while we're not playing, the better the in-game experience will be. Developers can see how people actually use the site, but from what little software design I've done, I think centralized, easily-accessible information is best, especially if it's accessible from multiple locations. I already own a home, but I do still look at the realty page occasionally, so I'd like the link to it to be in a logical place. I'd also like pictures of the insides of homes, since buying one is a major investment for a new player. Also, the wiki is a great idea, but since it's unofficial, it's not linked from the home page, and in the future, its contents may not be correct or complete.

  • I agree that we're intended to debate the flow of things, otherwise why bother opening to testers, right? I didn't mean to imply we shouldn't debate it. I think my point was more along the lines of - the flow on these pages will not only be changed radically, and potentially disappear entirely when the world is live 24/7. This whole area feels like we're running around in the back-end of the interface of the in game UI. When the world is live, people won't be puttering around with a home page to get to the various sections here, they'll be accessing it directly from the in-game interface - probably never knowing a different interface exists.

Personally, I think it would be interesting to have the ability to re-place things on our home page. For you, having all those links at the top might be easiest... for me I'd prefer them at the bottom where they're at... someone else might want the Auctions front and center, or the Friend Online.
