Party mode for your house

I also posted this suggestion near the end of an enormous thread in general, but let's get something more focused here.

Is it feasible to put your house into "Party Mode", in which people who come to the party can pick up anything on the ground, but they can only pick up "Just one" at a time?  This would prevent someone from coming in and quickly looting the whole place and running off with the party favors.

  • I have an idea that may work, Party bags. Donated items for the party would go into storage, access to those items for the party host only. Party bags would be created using item put in storage.

Slots in the bag could be set as drink, food ,herb and gift. rather than specific items such as beer and crudites meaning bags would not need to be identical allowing for surprises!!

You attend a party with one empty slot into which is gifted a party bag, You may only recieve one party bag per party attended.

If there are a lot of items in storage the party host could action a refil party bags option for the guests.

End of party any left overs in store would be granted to the party organiser

Creation of goody bags would be part of the party mode function as would the creation of party decor, these would be items that are dropped but not able to be picked up by party goers, they would then either be returned to the organiser or revert to normal dropped item after a set time period.

Party bags would eventually degrade so that you would need to either use or move items to regular bags.

  • Hmm... what if....

You could go to the bureaucrocs to pick up the following:

Public Street Party Permit - 5000 currants - which, when activated:
    - sets the street into party mode for one hour, public welcome
    - decorates the street with banners, balloons, a ball that players can hit, bars to swing from in the sky and party lights.  the street signs on entry streets are lit up with *party inside!* notices. none of these decorations can be removed by any player
    - populates the street with an assortment of drinks and food (so, say 2000 worth of food/drink).  for an extra 2000, hit 'refill' on the street
    - you're free to add your own drinks/food, as are your guests, people can pick up whatever they like BUT grants the permit holder the ability to boot anyone off that street while the permit is in effect if someone is just being a dick.
    - when the permit expires, all the decor goes poof and is replaced with confetti and empty cups littering the area, any boot a player was given is lifted
    - put a buff on the street so that another party cannot be activated there for 6 hours (to prevent the permits from being used to lock players out of a street for an extended time - griefing).
    - cannot be used on any street where there is an active project to prevent project lock-outs or on any seam streets which require keys for entry or in the tower.

Party Permit, Private Home - 3000 currants - when activated:
    - sets the private home into party mode for two hours; owner must approve all party goers who knock on the door
    - decorates the home with banners, balloons, party lights and disco music blocks which anyone can operate but no one can take. none of these decorations can be removed by any player. lights up the outside of their door with a neon party inside sign.
    - homeowners should be able to boot anyone out of their home so the boot option on the permit isn't needed
    - sets out 1000 worth of food drinks with a refill option for an extra 1000
    - when the permit expires, all the decor goes poof, turning into confetti and empty paper cups, and every player except for the homeowner gets booted out of the home (they can be let back in after if the owner chooses just by knocking/being let in)

Party Pack Permit - 1000 currants - when activated:
    - gives you one banner, a disco ball, and a disco music block to set out in your home, which no one can pick up; lasts for one hour

  • I like that idea Zeeberk.  That is all.

  • I think those are good idea's but i don't like the street party portion.  There are lots and lots of streets and there would be too many party's. i feel like it would change things and change the meaning of the game (especially after it goes live).  I think parties are cool but the reason they're so cool is that they're at the end of the world. but i totally dig the house party idea.  Maybe there could be a limit, like the bureaucratic hall would only issue one permit per area per game day.

  • Great suggestions Zeeberk!
The street party would be a great way to get to know your neighbors, welcome a new neighbor or party with a huge crowd without having a large home. The openness (Everybody's welcome) of this type of party fits very well with the spirit of the game.
The house party would be cool too. Regardless of the spirit of Glitch I'd love to be able to host a private party for, say, my real life friends.

  • dang, i came to post an idea, but zeeberk beat me to it, and much more thoroughly thought out too, so, yay!

you would definitely need your party permits in order - a perfect function for BA3 if you ask me!

also, we can only hope that some of the poofed confetti and glitter at the end would stick to partygoers for a while - after all, it tends to randomly show up in your hair or on your sleeve days later...

also, for street parties, i wonder if you might need to submit extra paperwork and/or get your neighbor's buy-in somehow...

  • Oooh, neat idea, zeeberk, and yeah, katlazam, I totally think having that be part of the (we hope coming someday) BA 3 skills would make a lot of sense. zeeberk, you have some cool and well thought-out ideas. I'm always interested to see what you come up with!

  • Yes! Love this idea :)

A few questions, thoughts, & concerns about it that aren't all that fully thought out (apologies if I ramble or don't make sense)...

    1) What do you mean "lock out" - would the normal activities of the street not be available? ie animals, trees, & rocks. I don't think that should be the case.

    2) Project streets should not be able to have a party. Not because of the lockout or because it's distracting, but because it could be a quick and easy way to complete the food/drink requirements. "we need more tacos!" "quick! party! buy more food!"

    3) I'm not sure the pricing is right or perhaps it's a timing thing. As much as it'd be fun to have a gazillion public parties, I think there's value in keeping them somewhat special. I think a certain amount of rarity will encourage larger gatherings and some social buildup to them.

    4) Love the empty cups & glitter - xp for picking up the cups? some sort of glitter buff?

  • Well, my ideas are just a starting point. :)

    But to answer your Qs:

    1) what I meant by lock out is this: do not allow the permits to take effect on project streets and do impose a 6 hour buff to any street that just had a permit party.  why? because otherwise you would have players buying the permits to be able to boot others off the street and 'lock them out'.  the only reason i ask for a boot with a street party permit is to be able to counter some griefing (guy shows up, acts like jerk, you can give him a timeout from the party); the boot is temporary and only lasts the life of the party permit.  but we don't want the boots to be used for hours on end on one street, which is what I call a 'lock out'.

but yes, all the things you can normally do on the street are available for anyone to do on the street during the party.

    2) right, that why I stipulated that in my original proposal.

    3) yea, maybe pricing/timing needs to change. those are just starting points.

    4) ;-)

  • ah! yes, that makes sense (the lockout bit).

Assuming the prices are raised a bit (if such an idea is implemented). It'd be nice for players other than the host (who bought the permit) to be able to buy & upgrade or replenish the food. This would help split costs.

  • Great ideas! How about instead of buying the permit for just any street, we have special party areas that could be rented with the permit? Just like one might in real life rent a pavilion in a park or a hall in an events venue.

  • I think because of the wide variety of places that parties have  been held thus far, having set areas would be kinda limiting - not saying that some set places would be a bad idea.

  • Okay, finally found a mostly appropriate house security thread.

Love that you guys put in a way to boot a player.  If you want to have a party, though, it would be nice to not have to boot everyone one by one when the party ends.  How about a button somewhere in the house (maybe near the door) which kicks all visitors out at once?  Only the owner should be able to push it.

  • @ larky lion...  In zeeberks post, it was suggested that a house party would last two hours and everybody except the homeowner would automatically be booted.

    Love the party ideas zeeberk!!!

  • Totally fantastic ideas, and brilliantly planned out!
Posted 17 months ago by arcturus Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Pirate Apples:  Yep, it does, but we're just tossing around ideas here.  I think none of it's been implemented yet.

For what it's worth, I prefer a boot button to a set length for parties.  What if I'd like to have a 30 minute party?

    What else might we try?

  • LOVE the idea, zeeberk. I agree, katlazam: perfect extension of BA!
Posted 17 months ago by Hburger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @larky lion... good point about maybe just wanting a 30 min party...

@katlazam...  I also love the idea of confetti or glitter sticking to clothing for a while <g>

  • These ideas sound like they have a lot of fun potential, zeeberk! If a party gets large though, the host might not want to be constantly approving guests: it might be nice to either set the party to auto-aprove guests from the friends list/a list preset by the player/be able to automatically leave the door open, depending on what the host wanted.
