Record the game day that your character begins in the world. When that day comes around, have a special quest, or a buff, or something. Even just a special birthday cake waiting for you. Or your house gets decorated in party materials.
Misha, I haven't. Actually, I was just on Facebook an feeling annoyed because I felt like I had to write a Happy Birthday note to someone I don't really know so well. Somehow got to this.
I can see it being a problem having your character's birthday as so many people will probably join at once when it becomes live. But, would be nice for YOUR birthday! Who doesn't like Happy Birthday acknowledgements :)
I think it would be nice to get a little acknowledgement or perhaps a free few credits on your real birthday.
Since the in-game calendar has 4 hour days, the logistics of having it on your in-game birthday might be too difficult since it might fall at an awkward time for you to log in? Plus is the length of the glitch year even the same as the real year?
FrankenPaula, if it was a gift like a cake (or a present that you open and causes streamers to fall similar to Sparkle power), it could be waiting for you if you don't log on on you Glitch Birthday.
The reason I like the Glitch birthday is because, yes, the calendars ARE different and don't line up. In general, I would like more things attached to the in-game calendar. (I believe there are plans for that.) I also want more things that relate to the Glitch World and are removed from the Real World. To give the world more precieved depth... even if it is silly. Heck, especially if it is silly.
Love the idea of horoscopes! I start working up a fake chart system just for fun.
This is drifting from birthdays but who cares. How about this? An astrology skill. Allows you to make horoscopes and fortunes and who knows what else. Uses paper.
Fortunes can be ingredients for Fortune Cookies that when you eat who get a random buff (and sometimes, but much rarer, a debuff) or Favor or experience or anything really.
Well, we already had a Chickenburger day during one test with all the chicken suits. I'd love to see it become an annual Glitch holiday. Best test-closing party ever!
Lord Bacon-o, I LOVE the idea of celebrating Glitch Birthdays but, as Fussycat said, when the game goes live, most of us will have the same birthday!!!! Must be some way we can work around that tho.... maybe the first time we get a ticket to spin the wheel, it could be to determine our birthday? And I, too, would love more things connected with that quirky calander. And just what is this three day holiday coming up called "Root?" Any ideas?
Yes. The "we will all have the same birthday" issue is a tricky one. (That is if we all log on in the first four hours... Okay, yes. That is what we will do.)
Long term, it is a lot less of an issue. The vast majority of players will not be testers so that would be less of an issue as time goes on. In my mind, I think it would be okay to have a testers sharing a Glitch B-day. Heck, it would then me sort of a special holiday: Mass B-Day/Launch Day.
I am going to start a glitch calendar/holiday thread to discuss all of the holidays.
How about if too many people have the same birthday, or if you don't like your birthday you could get an option to amend your birth certificate? So you could pick any birthday you like.
I'd love a way to celebrate my Glitch Birthday with a quest or maybe a quest for other players to give gifts to birthdayers, but as has already been pointed out: If it is tied to the Glitch calendar my birthday is only 4 hours long.
On the other hand since my Glitch birthday will happen every 51 RL days I would have 7 Glitch Birthdays per RL year so I'd probably luck out and be around for at least a few of them.
As far as the fear of too many people having the same birthday, on the RL day Glitch goes live there would be 6 different birthdays (if it opened at RL midnight) so I don't know how much of an issue that will be.
Great idea - how about the special street opens to Glitch's b'day only? Great bonus quoins and b'day cakes, etc. One catchy is that you only have four hours in real life. So, if your time is 3am, you have to wake-up and visit the special street? Or rather add to the b'day quest - so, that way nobody miss it.
Would our pre-reset (i.e. current) gamedaybirthday be a better option for testers? Or is that going to fall on 4 days of the year based on invite releases and be the same problem?
Also, is there a converter from realtime back to glitchtime?
@arcturus: Not that I know of. I tried to develop a PHP code for the convert thingie but since I'm not expert with the programming concept, so I stopped it before pull out my long hair. I'm sure I will go back and try it again. If anyone have done with it, please let us know. Perhaps, we should make a new topic and see if anyone have done with it or not?
Love this Glitch Birthday Idea... AND the Coverter program (+ dopiaza) as I have no clue to my Glitchen Birthday as I would also like my pre-set gamedaybirthday (+archurs) If I can't remember does that mean...... .... Does that mean I'm adopted too....Adoption = an awesome blessing in RL
Note that the times used in the forms are in GMT, so if you remember the general time of day as well as the date that you joined, use a time zone converter first, just in case there is a shift.
Why not have it recognize your actual birthday, if you choose to provide that information to the game on your profile page? Sure, it would last several Glitch days, and the game would have to factor in which time zone you are in, but that would make it both optional for those who don't want to be reminded that they are getting older and be a cute surprise for those who do opt in. Spanning several Glitch days would also give your friends time to log in, wherever they are, and help you celebrate with little tokens of esteem like a piece of candy or food or drink. Perhaps birthdays would let you choose ONE party space for free as a gift, redeemable within a couple of weeks from your birthday.
You always know your actual birthday, but remembering your Glitchday might be a little more challenging...though I guess you would get several celebrations a (real) year that way. :)
