Freedom for the Topics!

The 30 days limit is IMO an extremely short period of time, that only leads to duplicate threads and harder searches.
Something's telling me you're not gonna like to expand the limit, so how about a few votes?
Get support from five persons to unlock a thread for another 30 days.

  • +1!!!!
How about just never locking it after 30 days?

  • Interesting idea :)

  • Things like blog comments and forum posts typically get locked after 30 days to prevent spam being inserted into old topics. On my blog I used to leave comments open and I'd get 200 spam comments a day. Once I started closing comments after 30 days, that was reduced to 2-3 a day.

  • You don't have to lock anything on your blog if you have a good spam protection.
Forum posts get locked (more commonly like 6 months later) because they don't want anyone to bump old threads, where the contents would feel outdated as Glitch is changing pretty fast.
But some topics and ideas just don't fit in that rythm, and need to be called back or updated as the context evolves.

  • quite easy to send a request to staff asking them to unlock a thread, if you think what you have to say is best added to that thread.  No need to wait for people to vote

  • well eventually that's less work for the staff in the long term
do you know if they ever unlocked a thread from a request?

  • I dunno, I have to agree with Lemo that it can be necessary, and would save the staffies work. I bumped an idea about gems that I thought was relevant again, and I had to do it by creating an entirely new post with the existing thread linked.

  • I agree, 30 day locking is dumb

  • Start a new thread; link to old?
    Too much trouble?
    Like the idea.
A bit worried it would somehow go terribly wrong.
Then again, I'm always worried about something going terribly wrong.
    Like this post, for example.

Only because you weren't here when people were dredging up threads that were over 6 months old and adding 'helpful' (not) updates, or making crazy comments, or reviving dead issues...

The new thread with a link to the old, seems to be working much better...
