Meadows frantic banjo

Please TS can we have a change of music? The music everywhere else is great! I just love the meadows, I won't move, but I do turn the music off until I travel, it's driving me nuts. Anyone feeling attacked by the banjo frenzy? :)

  • I think the beef I have with the banjo is that it's the default music- if you don't happen to be in a region with a particular music to it (Ilmenskie, the bogs, Uralia), that's what you get, so it gets old really fast. I feel like if the banjo music weren't so all-pervasive, it probably wouldn't annoy me so much; but anymore I only turn the music on when I go to the bogs because of it.

  • Hahahaha I agree with you a hundred and twenty million percent.  XD

Hence why I avoid the Meadows unless I really need a fruit/bean/bubble run.  Which I don't, usually... >_>

  • I personally enjoy it, along with the music of other areas. Banjos, on the whole, seem to be underused and I appreciate their unique voice. Honestly it would be cool to have included other instruments of African origin as well (zeze, kalimba, goje, kora, et al.)

Piece here reminds me of the version of Alejandro Escovedo's "Bury Me" off of "Room Of Songs" w/the string quintet in a big way.

  • I'm willing to record a rendition of the Benny Hill theme tune on Kazoo as a replacement.

  • No...........I love it!  It is why I live in Meadows!!

  • Perhaps what we need is a Glitch Radio setting, for personally selecting your available background music...

though now I'm trying to imagine Groddle NPR

  • Wow I agree, Music in the Meadows is getting on my very last nerve. LOL. I really try not to complain about anything on Glitch, because I enjoy it so very much. I must agree, on this one anyway, the Banjo takes away from the relaxing atmosphere in Glitch. I really don't want to move, love my home there. Love Glitch.

  • Yeah, I thought that banjo music was the only music in the whole game -- turned it down for good after about half an hour.  Now I just fire up the Winamp and tune in WFMU or KEXP, or play my own stuff...delivered from "Deliverance!"

  • +12872832! i moved to andra from the 'bogs and the music is driving me bananas. not to mention all the bloody sunlight!

  • There could always be a musicology or DJ skill tree for folks to learn to play other tunes....

  • I like the idea of learning a music switching skill. Personally I love te banjos and wouldn't want to lose them.

  • Could be worse- it could be the hipster's current favorite instrument, the ukulele. No offense to those who play it, of course, but I've heard so many damn half-assed uke-jams in the last year or so that I will probably never be able to stand that particular instrument again.

  • Why not simply have musical versioning for all lands: Each land gets 5 loops. You choose.
    Just a proposal.

  • I love the banjo music. I often sing it when I'm out and about in the real world. It's a hallmark of the game for me. Sorry to hear it's driving ppl crazy.

I do wish we could hear the "snappy groddle forest theme" more often (the one with whistling that we hear during the tutorial and reprised when we firefly-whistle sometimes).

  • Me, too VS!  I catch myself whistling it all the time. If you dont like it, please go to another part of the world.  I honestly dont like the bogs music. It bugs me. I feel like they are whispering subliminal messages in my head!

I love Meadows music. It makes me super, duper happy!

Have you ever heard a calm banjo?  One of the best banjo players, of all time (next to Earl Scuggs)...in my opinion, is Steve Martin. Have a listen: Dueling Banjos , King Tut, Paul Revere )

  • +3000 to Jzero's idea for Glitch radio.  I would love to hear Glitch NPR, a la the recent GTA games.

  • I like the Groddle theme that was featured on the blog a while ago, but it doesn't seem to appear anywhere in the game. There's a similar theme for Ix. I agree though, the default banjo music gets really annoying because you hear it nearly everywhere. I'm really glad they changed the savannah music to something more fitting for the location.

    Groddle theme:

  • Oh, also.......Would really like spooky groddle in game at some point!
Posted 13 months ago by Innie✿, Obviously Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The main music you hear with all the banjos is only really meant for Groddle forest.  We've been replacing it bit by bit with more geographically specific music.  Thanks for your patience.

One thing we can agree on, we need more music.  Have you checked out the music in the Savanna lately?

    Epilady: good idea!

TalktoTony:  variations of the original music will be added. Also, the meadow should have it's own music!

  • Danny, I'm so happy! Thanks! I'm going to Savanna to check it out. I have run into awesome music in so many places lately.

  • Yea, not a fan of the banjo either...too Rango like for me...I really love the Glitch whistling tune...wish we could hear more of it after the tutorial.  I live in the bogs, and that music is majorly bothersome...I think they are saying 'way-ooo'...but to me, it sort of sounds like 'red-rum'...creeps me out massively...so I usually play with the music off most of the time.  Pity really...I love a good tune.  I like the idea of being able to pick our own music...though I think I'd pick the Glitch whistle for all the areas...or maybe some of Ms Theremina Lute 's tunes...

  • I've only been playing for nine days, but I still love the banjo music.  I'm also happy to hear the news from Danny.  But my favorite music in the game right now is music block DG-4 (finger-picking accoustic rhythem guitar behind a an electric lead guitar that starts out sounding like cows and ends up sounding like crows).

I can't wait to hear all the new stuff TS puts out.

  • As someone may have mentioned before, the ability to tune into a genre-specific radio setting (a la Grand Theft Auto 4) would be awesome. The individual music could still vary from region to region, while staying within the genre setting. I personally prefer post-structuralist pseudo-contemporary country funk myself.

  • agreeeeee , plus a million .
I live in Bortola and I really, really ,really dont want to move, but the music is driving me nuts too . I dont want to turn it down so that i cant hear neccesary sound effects, but it's jsut making me kinda crazy . THere's lots of nice music in this game. So, i'm not trying to be critical in a broad way. ;)

  • Serenitycat, you won't miss anything important if you turn down the music.  All event based sounds are controlled by the left slider.
Posted 13 months ago by Danny Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I actually like the music. But glad to hear it's being replaced gradually so that it's not everywhere...Sometimes when I've exited the world I swear I'm STILL hearing the tune in my ears because I've spent way too long in game  >____<

  • I love the banjo music, as every piece of music in Glitch.

Except that maybe it needs more cowbell... ;)
