Annoyances that make Glitch... less beautiful.

There a few annoyances in the gameplay that make Glitch less beautiful to me:

• You can only remove 1 pig from a particular street in your lifetime. EDIT: Addressed ( bit.ly/jjnltt Thanks, stoot!)

• When interacting with an asset, your character gets moved too far to the side - sometimes so far that you're either moved out of the area of interaction entirely, or you get pushed off a ledge. Also, sometimes your character gets pushed to the side facing the wrong way.

• When auctioning items, the tooltips cover up the items in the storage you're trying to interact with.

  • Another one......... THERE IS NOTHING LEFT FOR ME TO DO.
Seriously......... no major quests to work on, not much to explore........... nothing but projects to work on...........

  • KitkatCat. Don't you think that Devs want to leave something unknown for us - beta testers. If they show us everything would you like to play after going live? I bet that there are a lot of surprises for "after going live" that we wouldn't even imagine.

  • The wishy-washy colors in Alakol, they make my clothes look blah, and my lovely red hair is reduced to a rusty-orangey color,it just looks bland, washed out and drab. =(
I agree about the one pig only thing, and would add that the in-ability to catch and re-home chickens and butterflies is frustrating too (specifically the ones in your backyard/garden),and makes buying a new house difficult, unless you want to adopt a gazillion animals from the previous owner...
Posted 18 months ago by ~Scilly~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree about the movement while interacting. I especially wish that when clicking on another player our avatars would stay in their own space rather than getting right on top of the other player.

I hope that in the future we might get several options when selling our house including: Move your animals to your new house or Donate your animals to the 4H or something of that nature.

The mist in Alakol does wash things out, but in a way I like it because when you travel to another area it gives a wonderful contrast, providing a needed variety.

  • Buying a house is great in Glitch, but not if all the things and animals are left behind by the previous owner. I want to start fresh and new. So for me it would be great when someone sells his/her house, automatically it is brandnew when it appears in the realty listings again.

The colours in Alakol are indeed less colourfull, but like Riverwalker mentioned: there are other worlds and I guess many more to come. So it is great that there is some variety.

+1 KitkatCat..give us more to work on :-) But meanwhile I mine and garden and enjoy Glitch.

  • As discussed in another thread, the developers haven't actually created the parts of the game meant for people who've progressed past a certain point, and won't begin to do so until after the game launches.  This means boredom for a lot of us until after reset.  Most (but not all) skills have associated quests, so it may be worthwhile to finish the skill tree, even if you're too bored to play much while you're waiting.

  • - For piggy rustling, I've suggested in another thread that 'lifetime' is defined as the time between visits to hell. But I agree that it feels really arbitrary, and at the *very least* there should be some in-game narrative explanation of the reasoning behind the limit.

    - The ledge-falling is annoying, but I've noticed that since the last time this came up in the forums, they seem to have adjusted this so it minimizes the distance you move, either if you are near a ledge-edge or maybe just generally. It mostly doesn't happen to me these days, which I've appreciated.

    - Patt, it's not that they are leaving higher-level elements of the game so as to save us a surprise to keep us coming back, but rather that these elements are still under development. But there will be more coming!

    - Riverwalker's suggestion about being able to pull up somebody's character menu to interact with another glitch without ending up all up on their avatary-bizness is a great one.

    - and I love the misty atmosphere of Alakol. :)

  • I may be wrong but I have a sneaky feeling that the devs are holding back a bit on introducing everything at this time. I am thinking they have some fresh new stuff that they know is going to work and don't need to introduce to us until after the reset. I am hoping to be wonderfully surprised. So, I think waiting and surviving the boredom ( I have yet to be bored with the game) will be worth it. Stoot did say that they are going to keep inventing after the game opens.

  • I don't think they are "holding back" anything that already works.

We are testing things that don't always work.  Changes get made which break other things.  There's no way that something exists that they "know is going to work".

    Which brings up an idea:
Could there be a "beta" part of the world when we go live?  An area that is clearly fenced off as "under development", and lets brave souls test and break to their hearts content, without actually affecting the game?  I'd love to continue to test things.

PS I really want to be able to remove animals in my own home.  Streets too, but my goodness, at least my own back yard.
Posted 18 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • yeah, they really aren't holding back, but are releasing features as they are ready to be tested. stoot and eric have made some really interesting comments to this effect in the past few days, and I bet that somebody with a bit more time to find links to these comments will do so soon enough. :)

  • Yes would like the ability to move chickens and butterflies also.  Pigs can die from not being fed, and can be moved...however there is no such alternative for the chicken and butterfly populations (that I know of - maybe I'm missing something).  Some of the streets have just way way too many of both...frankly, they can be kind of annoying.  Also have to agree, that while I'd love to buy a house that has animals (thus far, all of my houses I've had to start from scratch), I might want fewer animals than are there. We need to have a way to balance out all the various animal populations both at homes and on streets.

Also agree with the being moved right into the other player's personal space when you click on them.  Would be nice to give them their US 3 feet of space and still interact with them.

Would also like for my avi to be able to interact more with the world around me.  I'd like to sit down, dance, interact with furniture, etc.  Also would like to be able to place things on other things.  Dislike having to put my drinks and food on the ground in my house (icky).  Would love to be able to put it on a table, etc.

  • I have to say that I deliberately chose a house which already had pigs and butterflies!  I like them and since you can rename them I consider them mine when I move in.

I guess if you don't want them though, they must be a pain.

If I need to hatch some more for a quest I just do it on an empty street somewhere, but one which is not crowded, I hate the streets with too many, they give me dreadful lag!

  • I do realize that they don't hold back on certain things that need to be tested. They can test them themselves without the help of all of us can't they and it still works?

  • It is kind of embarrassing that to lick on another avatar to find info. or imsilar, you end up standing right next to them. This was worst when tryingt o dot he quest with level 3,4,5 players. You needed to find their level, but you looked like a seriously creepy stalker in the process. It would be so much nicer to stay in your own space.
On the other hand, that wouldn't work so well with kissing, hugging etc.

    lol @katlazam: avatary-bizness ;)

  • I like to get close to some people, I would be extremely sad if I couldnt. I wish we could hold hands.

The over population of Chickens and such affects my game in that it makes me crash repeatedly so I would love a way to help with population control, Make me an animal warden ^^
I love the misty heights of Alakol thats why I bought a house there,

I have yet to be bored, finding new things to do is part of the fun, knowing I can do them freely is a joy.

  • @MissMuffet
They can test them themselves without the help of all of us can't they and it still works?

Nope, that's not how software testing works.

There are (give or take) 25 TS staff members.  Filling a house with 50+ partying Glitches creates much more information about how the servers and the software will hold up than simply having 25 staff members test it out.

Sure they can test some things before they roll it out for beta testers, but they really do need us to stretch everything to the limits.
Posted 18 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @WB
Does this include the wardrobe additions, the possiblility of choosing wallpapers and colors for decorating houses, etc. Do they need all of us for those tests? It would be nice to have some fresh things to hope for when we go live. Maybe I am a hopeful... :)
Posted 18 months ago by Miss Muffett Subscriber! | Permalink
  • They don't need us to "test" a new shirt or a new hairdo. But they may need us to test whether that shirt or hairdo works with various other parts of the game.

For example, if we get "picture frames" in our houses, they'll need to know whether the picture frames work in each kind of house.  This they can test themselves.

But they can't test every place we might be trying to use pictures from.  Does it work with Flickr?  With Picasa? With some obscure web host where your nephew keeps all the family holiday snaps posted?

Thats the kind of thing they need us for.

  • That pig thing is an annoyance especially when it is your own pig.  I had four pigs in my tree house garden in GF.  They were an incredible nuisance but I was not allowed to capture them and cart them away.  To do that I would have to get help from a Dev or maybe from a player who had no Pigs.  I scattered around a "Free Pigs" note but, no takers.  I quit feeding and petting my pigs.  I had it on good authority that they would die.  After two weeks they were fat and happy, not dead.  That's when I found they were eating my fruit right off the tree!  No wonder they were fat, happy and alive!  That was the last straw.  I was ready to move anywhere (even Chakra Phool - Aaaagh!) to get away from them.  That is also when the houses at Alakol became available!  Yipeee!  Animal pens were the answer to my dreams so I moved there and left behind all of my animals.

Chickens and butterflies were another problem.  You cannot catch them at all.  My chickens were all over the place.  I had one stuck on a branch and Beefcake kindly got it off for me and moved my pigs out of my house.  I did later discover that i could jump on that branch and the chicken would fly off so that saved Beef from another removal.  Why can't we catch chickens and butterflies?  I wish we had more options to manage animals in our own gardens.  I can't thank you enough for the pens!  I hope these might be made available for the homes in the older districts.

  • I'm with Ghost777, chickens are perhaps the most annoying feature of the game. If you could make them dissappear (with a powder) for 5 minutes it would be good. I don't mean the chickens any harm but the number of times I try to do something and select a chicken by mistake is tiresome. Vanishing Animal powder is the way to go.

  • Here's a super minor one but gets me every time:
    - When approaching a crab from left to right (meaning the crab is on the right side of the screen), his menu for choosing what block to play is partially obscured by the map window. (As someone who is trying to get work that achievement in an orderly fashion, this one gets me every time.

  • Agree with riverwalker about finding it annoying that when you click on another player to interact, you end up mashed up against each other. Talk about an invasion of personal space (:

  • GavinLeigh yes way to devilish to just hack off his head and make the body into soup. However annoying is not even close to the irritation in the mines when there are twenty or under at any count.I find in the new deeps especially there is one that stays right beside the sparkly rock and I keep having to squeeze it to move over.powder it for  sure, but still would like to bag it and take it home and make soup out of the squaking piece of waste of feathers.

  • i remember that, a long time ago now, stoot made some reference along the lines of 'when we get around to automatically spacing out avatars and orienting them to face each other during conversations.  it's stuck with me, 'cause i thought it was a really neat little touch, and i know how long the Big List o'Things to Do must be, but i wonder where on the list that feature is these days.  :)
Posted 18 months ago by katlazam Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The Map window has also been a problem for me at times especially in the caverns.  It sometimes obscures what I am trying to click on.  When I reach to click on a high spot to jump there, the map comes down and ruins the jump.  I can't recall exactly when I have had Map interference but will try to keep a list so i can be specific.

  • All those little black boxes that will be waiting for me to X-out when the game starts is kinda frustrating Especially if the game's been down for awhile lol

    Shall I mention the frogs + auction, again? :D :D :P

Tho none of these are game breaking for me, just a tab bit irritating :)

  • I love the group chats off to the right, but I can't bring the list of friends up to be on top. It makes it hard to find the person you want to IM. Maybe I just don't understand how to do it? It seems klunky.
re Brib: The map also gets in my way especially when I've got a destination plotted. But, I really love the look of the map and the ease of using. A map of the entire world option would be useful.

  • The only things that really irritate me in the game are butterflies and chickens.

Mainly giant swarms of butterflies that make it impossible to figure out which you've massaged and need milking and which haven't. Doesn't help that all the little critters are named Frank (in certain places) >:[

The chickens really do need an option to kill with a mining pick. I'm mining a rock, I don't want stupid chickens standing in the way of the rock, so I get a squeeze option instead of mine, and then they just stand there looking stupid at me for ages.
I suppose the chickens are quite realistic though. I have chickens IRL and they get under my feet, stand there looking daft and squawk when I walk past them.
Posted 18 months ago by Ebil Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ Ebil: LOL. My pet peeve is when my chickens and pigs follow me around my backyard and stand RIGHT where I want to harvest or tend my garden. I move and they follow. The piggies look at me with bright, adoring eyes and I stay "shoo"--"keep walking". I TRY to be nice but usually end up yelling " Get the f*! outa my way or I'm going to take a hatchet to you"....course that doesn't work either, but it makes me feel good. LOL But like sgjo said, it's not game breaking, just mildly annoying:)

@ Scillygirl...totally agree...sooooooooo need a sunny, sandy, beach area.  Would like the Alakol houses to be there but a bit more bright and a little less sterile looking...like in FL, we have crazy colored houses - pinks, peach, yellow, etc...would love that in game...so looking forward to the decorating options even if it will be a while before we get them...

  • @b3achy - when I lived in my big Shimla house it had 2 tables that I could jump up on and drop items, real neat. Was a tad disappointed to find the new Alakol houses don't have this feature. Hopefully usable tables will be incorporated into all housing at some stage.

I adore the misty heights of Alakol, wanted to live there since we first saw it, irrelevant of the type of housing. Love the rail we can jump up on in the Alakol houses and the animal pens are way cool, a big improvement! Definitely need to segregate the animals from the crops and trees in all housing please.

It's so easy to produce animals, and for some of the badges the requirement is to make many of them, so why so difficult to remove them? Or give them a reasonable life span at the very least.
Posted 18 months ago by Teena Subscriber! | Permalink
  • For the housing situation, I'm curious, can we hire a "moving company" to help us move stuff to a new house (even animals)?  Speaking of which, why can't we "buy up" then sell our old home? Say give us x amount of time to move out and sell?
Posted 18 months ago by Cat Mihos Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh I agree with Cat Mihos ~ I think we should get X amount of time to move all of our things when we buy a new home, say maybe 1/4 to 1/2 a game day (1-2 hrs RL time)? Then if there are items still left in our old house when time runs out then that's it.

Also, if you're taking suggestions for house colors, purple would be awesome! And beach houses would be excellent! :~)

Posted 18 months ago by Riverwalker Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That's a great idea, especially with the new ability to set two or more teleportation points.  Moving items from one house to another should be easy to do, even without people to help.
Posted 18 months ago by glum pudding Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm not feeling the new mailbox/aution feature.  Typically, when I purchase an auction item, it's because I need it STAT.  Now I have to wait....and find a mailbox....etc.  Not so fun.  Also, I'd love to be able to message a friend straight from my list, if they aren't online, or again, not when I find a mailbox.  Chances are that by the time I come across one, I've already sacrificed the item I wanted to spontaneously send in the first place.  lol.

My second thought...aside from the goals, I never have a plan.  I just leave the house and go wherever I end up.  I always end up needing something that takes me away from the mission I was on, and then, it happens again.  And again.  So, I never actually get anything done. Then, I forget where I was if I log off...

And MAN, I need more storage.  Like, a lot more.  If I'm going to be Glitch ADD, I need a bigger pack.
    :)
Posted 18 months ago by scroobienoob Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @scroobie I'm with you on the bigger pack, I always end up needing what I have left at home and all of my slots are filled w/bigger bags or the specialty storage items. I think we should have an option for a Giant bag with more than 31 slots but less than 33. It would fit right in and could even come in sparkly colors or stripes and plaids, how fun would that be.
