Any way to force Glitch to run in Low Quality?

Basically, when I'm using my normal home PC, Glitch runs fine! But I mostly use a netbook at the moment - and it's terrible at running flash at the best of times. Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to forcing Glitch to run in low quality?

I have a feeling the answer might be "buy a better computer" ;)

  • I would hope the answer wouldn't be to buy a better computer. As a social worker I'm rather sensitive to the marginalization of, well, anyone. I know another user specified he still uses 56K dial-up and I would have to agree that, in all fairness, maybe the game could be offered in a lower-quality version for players that do not have access to broadband internet and/or more current hardware/software?

  • If you mean the menu option you get for "run in low quality" in some Flash apps then no: but in the case of Glitch, it made no difference at all in terms of performance.

The good news: we are working on some fundamental changes to the renderer that *should* (fingers crossed!) mean very significant improvements in performance — preliminary testing results were a big "yay!"

  • low quality mode in glitch makes no difference because glitch uses pre-rendered art assets instead of vector art assets .. which is even easier on your cpu than rendering vectors at low quality.

restarting you browser can help a lot.

another trick is to resize your browser window so that it is a little bit smaller, reducing the amount of "shtuff" that your computer needs to churn through to display.

  • My netbook has already solved that problem - it doesn't show the flashy bits at all. On my netbook I can only post to the forums and groups and the open/closed sign doesn't appear at all!

  • +1 for an option for glitch to run with low internet connection speed and/or low performance computers.
