Victoria's "Consumables for Energy/Mood/Profit" spreadsheet (v2.0)

I proudly present: Victoria's "Consumables for Energy/Mood/Profit" spreadsheet (v2.0)

For those familiar with my food & drinks spreadsheet: I made a new one! The mechanics are now easier to understand.

For those who are not: This spreadsheet shows the gross/net energy and mood gain, plus the profit you can make from selling to the Tool Vendor. Go check it out.

Please note that the previous version took into account the energy costs from harvesting trees, animals and crops. This version displays those energy costs, but does not take them into account in calculating energy costs for cooking. I decided to disregard these values because most people don't harvest and cook in the same Game Day, but instead gather resources all the time.

Like the previous version, this spreadsheet can't be edited but you can save a copy and adjust the values in the Harvesting and Cooking tabs to your own Skill level.

Enjoy!

  • Awesome! One question: how does one find one's "Skill level" for various tasks, or is it just your current character level?

  • dubious chewy

You "learn" skills through your Rock.  So, you might have Cheffery 1 or Cheffery 2 or Cheffery 3.

Those skill levels affect your ability to make various recipes.

  • Wow, Victoria, this is really cool.  I always think that I should be making notes on how much energy I expend on cooking and how many currants on materials, but then I get too lazy or too disorganized.  This is very impressive!

  • This is amazing and exactly what I was looking for.

  • That's very cool.  I started a similar project just yesterday (so it's sorely incomplete and undocumented):

    Glitch Energy Guide

Its main purpose was to figure out what food give the best Currant Value per energy used to make it but I can see other uses for the information too.  Especially after seeing your sheet.

I came up with some different numbers than you too.

I'll probably work on it some more over the next 3 days and will repost when I'm satisfied.

My saffron, for example, costs 4.5 energy because it include the energy cost of harvesting the spice (at my current rate 12 for 2 energy) times the 3 spice needed to make 1 Saffron

  • Mister Master Mixer, when I first released my spreadsheet (a few months ago) there was a discussion about the question wheter or not it is useful to include "harvest costs". I included these, but agreed with the people who said that most players gather all the time instead of "oh I need salt, quick, harvest some spice". That's why I left it out this time.

Feel free to use my spreadsheet to fill the gaps in yours, I checked everything in-game so everything is up to date. Although I could have made a few mistakes... Please let me know if you spot them :)

I think you will be interested in my Harvesting and Tuning tabs. For instance, did you notice water/plan/harvest/hoe energy costs depends on you Croppery Skill level? Figuring out the best currant/energy value per energy used sounds interesting, I don't think I have that covered in mine.
Posted 14 months ago by Victoria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Wow. Good work, and thanks!

I'd be interested in seeing the cost in currants for each cooked meal, assuming that: ingredients from trees, piggies and chickens are free; ingredients from butterflies come at a cost for the massage cream required; and crops can be made for free after the base cost of three units from a vendor, which can then be fed to piggies to produce seeds. I don't think i'd worry about the cost of kitchen tools required to make some ingredients, though.

Maybe i should contribute a spreadsheet of my own... :)

  • Ohh i see, the Vendor-Only Item Cost. Perfect, thanks again!

  • Hi Victoria: I noticed that you didn't have the non-skill values for the bubble tuner and fruit changer. I can confirm that they are just the same as the skilled. In addition, the gasses don't seem to have a higher cost while unskilled for me, despite the note for that potential in your spreadsheet. (Not knocking the project at all, I love it. I know how hard it can be to keep something like this up to date in the face of developers who insist on continuing to improve the game. ;) )
Posted 14 months ago by Hrulgin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hrulgin, the recipes for the bubble tuner, fruit changer, spice miller and gassifier always display the energy cost WITH the Skill. But when you make, say, an apple without the fruit changing skill, it costs -4 energy instead of the -3 energy displayed. Sneaky!

It's the other way around for food. The recipe always states the energy cost with the lowest Skill for that cooking tool. For instance, the recipe for Cheeze Plate is unlocked after learning EZ Cooking I. The recipe states it costs -4 energy to make. With EZ Cooking II this is only -2 energy, but the recipe isn't adjusted.

What's even more ridiculous: Common Crudites are unlocked after learning EZ Cooking II. The recipe states it costs -4 energy to make them, but you'll see it only costs you -2 energy. That's because in the hypothetical-totally-impossible situation where you cook common crudites with only EZ Cooking I, it would costs -4 energy.

Oh and the Frying Pan? Don't even get me started on that one! Like every other Skill the energy costs for cooking at lvl 2 is half of the cost at lvl 1. But after a so-called upgrade to Cheffery III you will get charged more energy than at Cheffery II.

  • hey victoria, i used your old sheet a lot to find the sweet spot for meals to make.this is even better! thanks for making it!

nevermind: figured it out. thanks again for such an awesome tool! :)
one question though: i can't seem to be able to "make a copy." it's grayed out for me. know any reason that might be?
Posted 14 months ago by clearrants Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ok, so having made one of each fruit & bubble, the unskilled takes 1 more energy for all of them but the Hard Bubble, which takes 8 rather than 6.
Posted 14 months ago by Hrulgin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I guess I don't fully understand the cooking tab. Many of the recipes have a grey box under the '3' column with no energy listed. I think I am right that those numbers represent the Cheffery skill of which I am level 3. But making some of the items listed does actually cost energy. So apparently I am reading it incorrectly?

  • I've been using your spreadsheet for a couple of weeks now and I realized I never did come in to say how awesome it is. Thanks.

  • Yay, I was hoping someone had started a spreadsheet like this! /cheer Victoria.

The 'make a copy' command is greyed out for me too (same as clearrants), but unlike him I have not been clever enough to figure out why. Can someone help?
Posted 14 months ago by Kinkajou Subscriber! | Permalink
  • This is really great - thanks so much!

Kinkajou - I had the same problem with "make a copy" so I just downloaded it in order to edit it.

A question: does anyone know if there's something similar to this for tool-crafting? I'm wondering what tools are the most profitable to sell.
Posted 14 months ago by Illamasqua II Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't know why you can't make a copy... don't really know how to fix that :(

@Od: Cheffery is the only Cooking Skill with 3 levels, the others have only 2 levels. That's why those are greyed out.

I'm really happy you all like it!

  • Ooooh this could be really useful!  I have been needing a credible spreadsheet of Food to Energy for a little project I have been working on.  It may not be directly related, but I am glad someone is mapping down all of this data!  Thanks Victoria!

  • I have a somewhat naive question here (still fairly new to the game), buy was there any particular reason why the "profit" sheet was calculated using the Tool vendor as opposed to any other vendor? Is there a difference, or was that just the vendor you happened to pick?

Thanks in advance for your advice there, and thanks for the awesome spreadsheet of info. Nice to know there are others who do this sort of thing, too. :-)

  • The Tool Vendor gives the best payout for sold items (80% street price).
Most vendors buy for 70%, some for even less.

  • some of your missing data:

    G1 tree harvests all 6
    AK3 harvests 2/2/2 with energy 10/2/4 (5+5 for butterflies; 2+2 pigs)

  • A tiny correction in the entry for meat tetrazzini on the "profit" page.  Cost for vendor only items is listed as 3 currants.  I believe this should be 7.  3 for a mushroom in the main recipe and 4 for a honey in the sweet 'n sour sauce used to make the tangy sauce for the main recipe.

    Absolutely love the spreadsheet!

  • Victoria -
On the Profits tab, the Multiplier is  Energy Out/Energy In,  right?

If so, the Hearty Groddle Sammich is the best of the bunch. And it's yummie.
Posted 13 months ago by Tsu Dho Nimh Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Tsu Dho Nimh, with the "Multiplier" I tried to determine if it's worth it to make a certain meal with the intent to sell it for profit instead of just selling the base ingredients. It also takes into account the items you need to buy at a vendor and the energy put into tuning&cooking (where energy=currants).

    Multiplier = Profit/Investment.
Profit = what the Tool Vendor pays - Vendor only items
Investment = profit you could make from selling the base ingredients + Vendor-only item costs + energy put into tuning&cooking

I'm really bad at math so I'm not really sure this even makes sense :)
Posted 13 months ago by Victoria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • love this
Posted 12 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The math works out (I'd call 'multiplier' something else, but that's irrelevant) but it's not entirely an accurate representation of the situation since it seems like the prices are based off of the assigned value, not floating market value. For example, excluding wear on the equipment and recursive energy values, you're looking at a Hearty Groddle Sandwich being around 70 with the approximate values I use.

(Not trying to downplay your sheet, Victoria; it IS a tremendous amount of laudable work. Just giving a heads-up to people there may be alternative angles to consider.)
Posted 12 months ago by Aoi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Aoi, you may find this Food & Drink Profit spreadsheet useful. It doesn't take energy into account at all, but it does allow you to adjust the value of harvestable items (e.g. cherries, beans, etc.). In many cases, it makes more sense to buy those items and use them in profitable recipes, because hey - time is money.
Posted 12 months ago by Melody Pond Subscriber! | Permalink
  • This needs updating to consider more variables.  As I have found, expensive grilled cheese is the best item in the game to easily make if you make all your cheese in a 6 minute rush of nono before the day ends and assuming you buy the buns, as it is cheaper and faster to buy them than to make them. (Thank the allspice auction price for that one)

Other than that, if you are willing to wait it out, awesome stew wins.  Also, if you have a constant surplus of meat like I do, Rich Tagine is the best food to make at the least hassle for using meat, and has a bonus of being able to be fed to bats for 3 guano (It is worth 101 currants).
