newbies as kids

I think it would be fun if new players start the game with a smaller avatar and it would grow a little bit with each level they gain, until at some level (15?) they're considered "grown up" and have a full size avatar. That way if you see a very little glitchen walking around you know they might be very new and need some help. Or if you see a little one doing something annoying like grabbing everything in a community garden without replanting or asking, you'd be a bit more patient with them because they're just kids and don't know any better.

Just to make clear, I'm not talking about real life kids appearing as kids, I'm talking about any new player appearing as a kid.

  • I'm on the fence, I guess because the avatars already look so childlike now. And short!
Imagine being a new Glitchen at a party and being the same height as a pile of Divine Crepes--it might be a bit humiliating.

  • would you need pets, or hugs and kisses to fully mature?  :)

  • WTF? I hope the smiley indicates you are kidding...

Perhaps the growing up from a diddy glitch could add some fun but surely the fact that gods, hell etc. are involved stealing stuff is part of the experience for some just as a good splanking session ;) can be quite pleasurable. Will I be expecting a knock at my real door and getting a smacked bottom for not playing "the correct way"???

  • um...can I infer from your outfit that you are kind of hoping someone knocks on your door?

    KIDDING :) :) :)

  • No no, they are my shiny special Saturday night going out pants.  I would dress more formally for Glitch subscriber correctional visits as I wouldn't want to get in any more trouble after stealing and not planting and now a dress code violation too.  For the first couple of visits at least. :p

  • This idea's not for me; I appreciate that some enjoy the cute and co-operative aspects that this game enables.  I'm sure those people also appreciate that there are other ways to play; solitary, mischievous, the game doesn't inhibit any way of playing, including clearing out community gardens even if you *do* 'know better'.  There are no in-game rules governing how this game should or should not be played and while some people bring their real-life morals to the game with them, others prefer to leave them at home and let their repressed naughty streaks have a little play time.

The idea of having to walk around for 15 levels as a 'child' while the grown ups pet and chide me into playing the game in a particular way gives me the jitters - I did that 30 odd years ago in real life and wouldn't relish the thought of having to do again it in a game...

    Just my 2 currants :¬)

  • I really, really don't like the idea of being forced to walk around looking like a child and possibly being treated like one just because I'm new. I'd rather just that player levels are visible when your cursor hovers over them.

  • OMG that would be so funny to start off little and have to be petted, hugged, and kissed in order to mature :P

  • I'd like a drink that makes me tiny for 10 minutes.

  • I think it is not a bad idea, just that the level of "adulthood" should be much lower, say 4 or 5.  Bearing in mind how quickly players can get to that level it would not be unreasonable IMV. whereas 15 might take a long time and it would be a pain.

This would help with the quest to give stuff to new players, but so would a level indicator on a cursor hover, which I would actually prefer.

  • I agree with Lindona, I do not wish to be portrayed as a child, not even for a few levels.

If you have a generous nature it is not hard to do the gift quest, just pass gifts to many and eventually you'll completed the quest without once needing to look at someones level. Also there shouldnt be the same pressure to complete achievements as when we are beta testing.

Plus it would be a massive task to redraw and resize all the wardrobe and vanity items to fit a child glitch unless we are to be of a uniform design on the outset which I for one would not like.

I love the Glitch I am.

  • Actually Faereluth I think you are right.  I wouldn't want to be a child either on further thought.

I wouldn't mind knowing what level someone was without having to click to find out, but not just for the quest, just out of interest, or knowing if someone needs a bit of help sometimes.

  • I'm not a fan of this idea. It seems rife with potential for someone with malicious intent to exploit/target new players.

  • True that. A shrinking drink tho......... That might be nice. At least you're smallish by choice.

  • Great idea KitKat.. like an Alice in WL drink.. we could shrink and fit through tiny openings in Ilmenskie, discovering strange, wonderful caves full of heretofore unknown and highly valuable gems encased in Sparkly Beryl :)

  • When I read KitkatCat's suggestion I was thinking more along the lines of a blue mushroom...

A shrink drink sounds fun, actually.
