ADA Compliance on Quests

Some of us disabled people love the game, but we are going to be just as marginalized in it as we are in society if wrist and hand abilities are what is being judged as what is worthy to complete tasks and quests (I'm looking at YOU, "Walk Toward The Light"!

  • I think Tiny Speck tries to be very accommodating with respect to the variety of quests. People are so varied that it is difficult to create a gameplay experience that everyone enjoys. People with wrist and hand disabilities are likely to have trouble with "walk toward the light". People who are tone deaf (or completely deaf) will have trouble with the Equibeth quest. People who are color blind may find Les Miserables to be difficult. This doesn't mean TS is trying to marginalize anyone. It means they are trying to provide a diverse experience, and not every person is going to be able to do everything equally well. Just my two cents.

  • I hear you both, good points both of you!
How about if some of the mentioned quests (for me it is Rainbow's Run) were created with the option to have a friend participate with you?  Or, if some quests, after being tried a certain number of times, gave the player the option to add a friend to the quest?  I know some might think of that as cheating but I wouldn't.  And, since that option would apply to all players, it wouldn't single out those with disabilities, it would just be an option to make a quest more involved while giving everyone a chance.
I haven't yet won Walk Toward the Light but I've only tired it once.  I have tried Rainbows Run a *ahem* few times and still lost.  I'd welcome a change, especially if it makes the game more accessible to all!

  • -1 to any hard requirement that eliminates certain types of quests
+1 to a variety of quest types, especially not all "console game" types

  • I think each quest should have a small icon next to it before you accept it. So, maybe it has an eye for visual requirements, a hand for platforming/quick action requirements, an ear for audio requirements, and the like. In case you aren't able to participate for whatever reason, you would know before hand.
