Group Towns

you should have the ability to build your own town with friends and to collaborate together with a group of friends only in a small town. The more you work the more the town grows. you start of with about 5 streets and every 5 joint levels (everybody's levels combined) you unlock a new street. This would go on and maybe at 50 you unlock a new section like IX. You can do projects and work for the greater good of your town... this would work better when there are many people playing. The group limit would expand as the town grew. And if you do not have a friend to play with you would join a kind of matchmaking group where you can form a random town.

  • i really like this idea. street building leading to town building.

one tweak tho, instead of each town spawning it's own Ix, maybe just a version of Ix built from Ix like elements?

also, a teleporting stone in the center of town with different settings depending on how "sleepy" you want the town to be.

  • I don't like the idea of a limited amount of people being able to contribute, it's kind of anti what the game is about.

  • yes, but glitch will get to big! if there are ten thousand people playing, no new people will be able to contribute, they get left behind. If you have smaller towns, everyone in the town is near the same level and everyone gets the chance to contribute. You can have bigger towns, maybe a hundred people, but a thousand would make the projects a bit hard to contribute to. And the limit would make it easy to play with friends, or if you want to play randomly you can join bigger towns, with more people.

  • "anti what the game is about"

    there's something it is about?

eventually, even very soon, it'll be impossible for everyone to work on everything. there's nothing anti-social about wanting to build something special with just a group of friends.

and i imagine that in order to do private building it will probably be necessary to do public building and trading and interaction and collaboration in the wider world in order to gather resources, build linking streets and so on.

  • yeah there can be a World, then Countries, The states or provinces, the towns.. You have groups of roads like there are now, like ix, and then there should be neighboring roads that connect to other peoples towns. This way you have neighbors in your state or province. It would be cool to have a government and pass laws too. Get a job! the expand your town to become a world power! The world would be glitch, then countries can be the giants minds, like pots country or Ti's country. The states can be decided by the creators or have some system. thats my rough outline.

  • sorry that wasn't very clear. I think Glitch should be organized like our world is. There is Glitch, or the Giants imagination, which is equivalent of out earth. Then each giant has their own country. There is Pot's country, which can have a certain landscape, and then Ti's country, which can be different too. Each country can have more of each resource, like rocks, animals or plants. This can lead to importing and exporting in markets? then there can be provinces, which just narrow down the countries and then the personal towns as above mentioned.

  • eh .. not sure i like each giant having its own country.

i might like lem, but want to live somewhere else .. or i might not like the giants at all.

plus each realm already has its own visual style of shrine, with space for any giant's logo.

plus our world isn't organized as a series of theocracies .. not all of it anyway.

  • more people playing = bigger map = more projects = fewer left out

I could see reserving neighboring houses for friends which would expire after a fairly short while, although I haven't seen much in the way of friend-based neighborhoods forming to justify it. The street, interior, and resource proximity have been more how people choose so far.

Some of that gov't thing is supposed to happen, but the giants are about balance.

The giants are more racketeers than gods, demanding imaginary objects for imaginary rook protection, capisce?

  • "The street, interior, and resource proximity have been more how people choose so far."

this won't be true once we can build our own streets, customize our own interiors and cultivate our own resources [gardens, orchards and other future resource generators].

if we are able to build and alter the glitch environment, other criteria will emerge regarding residences. social relationships will likely be one of those criteria.

  • It's been a criterion since the first day of properties. It's been the sole one as far as streets for a few.

  • right but you said you haven't seen much in the way of friend based neighbourhoods so far, and i'm trying to articulate how the overriding reasons you listed may not be so overriding in the future.

  • And you did quite well. I'm not as certain it'll go that way, but I'm not gonna go anywhere near discounting it.

  • @Lolzerz, they are quotes from a story by Jorge Luis Borges. The version of GNE (pre-Glitch game) that I played had a map made up of hexagons, kind of like Settlers of Catan. At least, that is what I remember, that might be totally off!

Anyway, when I read this thread, I remembered that story and when I think of the streets, towns and overall structure of Glitch, I prefer to think of it more the like Library of Babel and its hexagonal spaces.
