New-style gardens less productive?

As a home owner and a member of the Tallish Crest Residents Association (TCRA) I would like to voice my concerns about the deteriorating productivity of the new gardens.

When I purchased my abode I was the proud owner of a 16-patch piece of heaven.  Cabbages in abundance!
Now my growing possibilities are limited to a mere 8.

I do hope that this will be taken into account when this year's property taxes are reassessed.
I would accept a credit in footwear.

  • I'm pretty sure my garden is 12 plots now, but what concerns me more is that everything is in the way of my garden. This can be especially problematic for people who end up having a ton of animals running around. If the garden was 50px-100px higher you would only have to deal with butterflies in your way.

  • im also in tallish crest. i went from a 9 plot to an 8 plot.  the only thing that produces low for me is radishes. i agree they're too low though. animals do get in the way (they always mill about my feet)

  • The Marrakesh Meadow Neighbourhood Association would like to thank the developers for our lovely big gardens.

  • I have to say, I love the way the new gardens look and am willing to accept a small drop in productivity for that reason.

However, perhaps a fence around it could prevent livestock from trampling all over it? It would also keep out bunnies who like to nibble on my carrots.

  • I am thankful that I can garden with much more success on Doon Way than I can in real life.

  • I also find the new gardens hard to work (because of animals in the way), and am also sad to be reduced from 16 to 12 plots.

    You know, FWIW.

I'd like to move to raised beds or hydroponics or something.

  • I'm with you, Holly; total black thumb in rl. I love the new garden look and the fact you don't have to go to a new tab, but I also wish there was a way to see them when you have animals everywhere. Quite hard to click on....

  • @holly - know what you mean, gardening in Glitch is much more fun and less tiring on the back! - I do think the garden interface at houses needs something, feels a bit clunky to me.

  • I propose chicken coops and pig pens to corral wayward animals.

  • I think the garden size may now be linked to the style of the house... small meadows houses have a 2x4 garden, medium a 3x4, and large a 4x4... heights should have a total of 8 spots... forest houses should have a 3x4 space... gregarious grange apartments have a 2x2 space (mirch houses have no garden). The dev's were taking serious note about the difficulties interacting with the new garden styles... one of them even said we might get keyboard controls for them eventually.

  • During yesterday's far-too-brief test, I tried to plant in a previously inaccessible garden patch next to a full-grown spice tree, and it worked perfectly, so hooray! and thanks, hard-working developers.

  • or move the gardens off to the side w/ a fence to keep the animals out from the front?

  • +1 @splotch: That's exactly what I was thinking.
