Of Trees and Glitchers

As it stands currently, the lifespan of a tree is indefinite, so long as that tree is tended to. I would recommend that trees are given a natural lifespan within the game since there are quests for new players to tend patches, plant beans, etc., and there are also several street projects calling for clumps of earth and loam which are becoming a rarity. If trees had a lifespan, the amount of time they lived for could vary based upon the number of trees (and maybe the number of a given kind of tree) in the area with more prevalent trees having shorter lifespans and rarer trees having longer ones.

Right now, trees can be poisoned, but it has become obvious that this might need some regulation. My suggestion is that either poisoning trees should have a cooldown placed upon it or, like capturing piggies, a player could only poison so many trees per street. Placing such limits would prevent griefing/trolling. However, it may have been the developers' intention to have players act as the lifespan of the tree, they becoming the natural forces of creation and destruction. If that was the intent, then carry on! This has been a Vexia suggestion; thanks for reading! :P

  • hmmm, Both very good points-- a tree lifespan would be pretty cool--- Though an antidote/poison then would go obsolete--- which i like the poison... (Though-- i only kill 1 tree per street for a few streets while i kill trees--) I do like the idea that the players decide on the lifespan--- though-- if my trees at home had a lifetime they would probably die before i go and visit them to harvest-- so a lifespan would have to be quite the while to make it worth it. -----Just to clarify-- im thinking out loud and probably dont make much sense --

P.S i also really like how you put both sides of the aspect up there :D

  • ohh? i didnt know that LOL. Thanks striatic :P Do you know how long it takes for them to die off?

  • it takes a fairly long time. they used to die off rather quickly but people complained about that and they were given longer lifecycles.

the way it was explained before is that once the tree reaches maturity, there is a random chance it will die every so often. so longevity isn't fixed.

  • I didn't know that. In the Help Channel, I threw out the idea that trees could have a lifespan, and somebody explained to me that they do have a lifespan because they die if nobody takes care of them. That's not really a lifespan when they could live forever if everyone kept on meeting their needs. Maybe once the game launches fully, the lifespan can be evaluated and possibly shortened because as much as I love my trees, there will be many, many people coming in and needing to tend a patch, plant a tree, pet a sapling, etc. for their quests.
