Toolbox Purpose?

Can anybody tell me why somebody would want to buy a toolbox?  It costs more than the bigger bag while holding the same number of items.  Except the toolbox can only hold tools while the bigger bag can hold anything.   Does it do something special I'm not aware of?

  • Nope, that's all it does.  Some of us just like the look of it and also the fact that stuff other than tools won't mix into it when we're not looking.

  • No, it doesn't. You pretty much describe its purpose and why it's useless. The only thing is that you can't put anything else but tools in there so if you were to remove one tool and pick up a new non-tool item, then it won't go into your toolbox so you don't have to sort them from the tools.

  • I've got two. I like them because they're visually distinct from the rest of my bags, and because they make it easier to keep my inventory sorted. Firefly jars and random kindness dispensers both count as tools, so I don't have any wasted space.

Also, you'll eventually hit a point where you have more currants than you know what to do with - the 1000c difference in price is about 20 squeezed chickens worth of grain with AK7 - so by the time I bought mine it didn't seem so bad.

  • Only being able to hold tools is a feature, not a detriment. It helps keep the inventory sorted.

I also think the toolboxes are prettier. I have one of each color: Silver for mining and alchemy, red for cooking and making drinks, and green for gardening and potion making.

  • So do emotional bears!

I have two and am considering a third. Keeping things sorted is my main concern, and they fit the bill beautifully.

  • Is there a list of everything that goes into Toolboxes? I could sit all day and drag and drop but I'm sure someone else has done so and has posted a list for us lazy Glichen.

  • I have 2, one for my cooking tools, another for all my non-cooking tools. Helps keep things sorted like others said, but there's really no other use for them. I was hoping TS added a less durability wear or something during beta, but it never happened :(

  • Think now with potions I may be moving to the third box as well.

Your meditation orb will go in there too....

  • It's much easier to stay organized. Things get very jumbled in bags. I have one for kitchen and one for other tools. I wish I had more item specific bags.

  • I bought one as soon as I could afford it, way back when, thinking there must be some benefit... then had a bit of a "ah, well played TS..well played", moment when I realised it did nowt fancy.

like others have said though it does kind of enforce a bit of organisation on my stacks 'o' crap, and I've now got one for kitchen/potions etc and one for the rest.

  • The chrome toolbox also provides you with extra shininess.

  • I love my red toolbox.  It is easily recognizable, and when a tool breaks I know right where to go to repair it.  That's where both my tinkertools are.  I actually have more tools that room for in my toolbox.  You can keep beaker and testtube in there, too.

  • I'm going to go with the original poster on this one.  Maybe it's just the way I organize and obviously different people think and organize different but I do it all by order in my inventory.  So all my bags are the same color and I usually organize things that stay in my inventory permanently like tools and food either at the first bags or the last bags.

I see that the toolbox is great for people who work better organizing visually or by name but it would be nice if the toolbox was either cheaper or could hold more than 16 items.

  • Considering what people will pay real money for in the wardrobe department, your average glitch would be more than willing to shell out in order to get more distinctive bags.   Incan weave, tweed, etc, etc.

  • I have two myself mainly because of the visual aid to organizing. Besides... they are *shiny* :D

  • Tools in the toolbox don't wear out as quickly.
Posted 12 months ago by Bashere Subscriber! | Permalink
  • uh, that's not so.  Toolboxes do not make any difference in tool wear.

  • I use the toolboxes to keep my inventory organized. I know where everything is, and my harvests don't get mixed up with them all. Just organization for me. :D

"The toolbox does nothing special other than hold tools."

  • i've got2 - one for food related tools and a few firefly jars - the other for all the rest. So much easier to go straight to them instead of trying to remember which bag they're in...

  • @ Bashere if that were the case I'd still be working on trying to get my kitchen tool repair badge

  • At first I wondered the same thing. But I bought a toolbox and love how organized it keeps everything.
