Opinions on the new Quoin-hopping areas

It seems like every new region that's opened these days has only one purpose - hopping around to get quoins.  I know that some people like this and have even made it part of a leveling strategy, but really - is this how the game is going to develop?  Because just hopping around for quoins seems pretty lame to me.   I would like to hears others opinions, pro & con, about these sorts of areas.

  • I agree that regions with new purposes besides quoins are better for development. Then again, Firozi isn't a quoin region.

  • I like a strategy, resource gathering, and crafting game. And as a sandbox game where there is the freedom to choose, that is how I enjoy playing Glitch.

Others can leap around chasing floating coins- what I refer to as Glitchtendo- it doesn't interfere in my play. It's a different strategy than mine, almost like two different games coexisting in one world. Glitches playing that way don't interfere with my fun at all.

It does seem like a lot of the new content and the new areas, are for jump and catch playing. I hope this focus doesn't come to dominate what the game is. As the OP stated, if it does it isn't a very rich game experience. Glitch to me has been and I hope will continue to be, much more.

  • Kloro is enough fun that I'm finally breaking down and going for the Numismatizer badges (I am a sucker for the bouncy trampoline thingies). But I'm still hoping to see something added to the quoin regions to spice 'em up... I don't know... hidden rooms, or special animals, or some sort of mini-game? I'm not exactly falling over myself to return to Roobrik or Balzare, despite the beautiful artwork. I'm just hoping that there are plans for more there there.

(No skin off my nose either way--there's plenty to do elsewhere! I happily renewed my sub today, and will be Glitching 'til the Giants say when.)

EDITED--I originally said Firozi when I meant Kloro. Too much hooch or something :-)

  • Ur is now pretty big. While it is visually attractive, much of it is of a sameness when it comes to interacting with it. There's little sense of different pieces adding up to a bigger whole, which is what I enjoy when it comes to exploration and interaction.

I would enjoy more long-form puzzle-stories and learn-as-you-go narratives connected to the different regions.

  • Yeah, I agree that they've gotten boringly similar lately. It seems that TS feels forced to release new regions, but without fresh ideas new regions are mostly pointless.

  • These regions exist for the sole purpose of tormenting rubbish jumpers like me. *falls to the forest floor for the 15th time in a minute*

  • I agree with Georgia that it would be cool to see something else a little special about the quoin jumping areas, a special animal or something. I find that I stick to the same familiar streets all the time in Ur and I would like to have to search around a bit more to find the things I need.

Basically I feel that a lot of the areas are becoming a bit samey, and I'm not into quoin jumping so I probably won't spend much time in the new regions!

  • Whilst I agree that its good to have new areas to keep things fresh -- the quoin hopping areas really bugged the hell out of me
whilst there are some areas good for sharding (altho I am new to this idea and when it first happened i was quite confused), Hoama and Kloro are generally quite annoying.

I only went there to get the completist badges. I am now staying the Naraka away from them

  • I'm in the process of searching for more "hidden rooms" or areas in these new places...like getting to the top of the Dragon on ____ _____ in Bortola, or finding the Missing Room in Tamila at the end of ______ street (no spoilers here, hee hee!)...stumbling upon these kind of Easter Eggs (and I do hope there's at least one in Firozi!) makes me happy, but with the exception of getting the quoin-related badgers, I really don't see the point of Kloro or Haomi Balzare or Roobrik...though Balzare and Roobrik are quite pretty to hop around in.

  • I rather enjoy the quoin hopping areas, not just because it's easier for me to get quick IMG running about there, but also because it's a pretty good place to put on some spot theatre or have interesting activities. With nothing to click on but other glitches and the things we place there, it makes it easy to do some focused interacting!

Also, there are rumours that a certain un-nameable ninja clan possibly frequents the area. But I can't speak to that, one way or the other.

  • I love the Kloro region, I avoid Haoma, but that's just because of the color scheme.

  • I likely wouldn't spend as much time in Kloro and Haoma except that I've discovered the hilarious joy that is a running shard battle. Go with one other person and race to shard all over them while trying to fake them out and get to the quoins first. Sometimes it's balletic and coordinated and other times it's a mess of falling and derping, but it makes me laugh something fierce. I'm always sorry when I hit my limit and the game is over.

Generally, though, I prefer regions with a little more life in them. I think we'll continue to see a balance between the different styles of region and I don't for a minute think that this new style will supplant the traditional.

  • If I really believed that these were the only sorts of regions/style of play we'd continue getting, I'd agree it's not good because there wouldn't be any diversity. But I think there's far more to come and that these were just some of the focus right now, not just for adding something different, but testing it, too.

It's like when the AL came out. We got two, and people thought they were cool, then the next time we had regions to open up, it was the same style and mechanic; people back then were also ready for something different to open and voiced concern (though with these regions, they look vastly different from each other than the AL did). We've gotten a lot of different areas since then, though.

So overall, I think it's good. They're fun regions if you're into that sort of play or enjoy that type of play on occasion. They offer an alternative, and I'm sure we'll get more areas that are different in ways we can't imagine now. Most of those things may just not be ready to be shown yet.

  • Agree that Kloro is superior in many ways.  The Haoma color scheme reminds me too much of Pepto.  I like being able to come in, hit my coin limit, shard a bit, then tend my garden/industrial objectives/resource gathering and selling off/donating my overages to the various shrines.

One way it's changed my gameplay is that if, for instance, I am up at 550, I'll wait until 600 to log in, b/c I want to ensure I have enough time to grab my coins.

This will change once I hit my final numismatizer badge, but in the meantime, that's how I'm playing.

  • I'm a rubbish jumper and dislike Roobrik and Balzare because of that, but Kloro was designed for jumpers like me :)
The game has room for different styles of play and once you get bored of one thing you can move on to another. I'm all for different types of activity in different areas of Ur.

  • I love platforming in Glitch.  It's one of my favoritist things to do, quoins or otherwise.  Firozi, for instance, contains an awesome amount of running, jumping, and climbing (Glitch parkour?) without an overabundance of quoins.

I'd personally love to see more platforming outside the quoin-jumping world (like the jump pads being "imagined" elsewhere.

I agree with others as far as the sameness, but it really feels like new regions are becoming more and more unique and interesting.
