We Fought the Rook

I live to the north in Aranna on Dosaka Moda.  This morning, having fed my animals and tended my garden, I left the quarter for a walkabout.  Rook attack!  I whipped out my orb and began to use Marial Imagination, but alone I am a weak zero.  The large black bird grew as it flew towards me, but other Glitchen began to appear.  Still our numbers were too few and the strength of the Rook grew.  Trees sickened and animals fell to the ground helpless.  Imagination itself was under attack, as my screen was scratched and torn.  But more Glitchen were appearing.  We stood together, our bodies crackling with our combined power, the glow of our orbs growing greater.  This is what I trained for!  We worked together to launch effective stun attacks.  We made the rook vulnerable.  As we gathered to prime the shrine and donate our most valuable items, bolts of power flew upward. The rook retreated.  The animals were revived and the trees brought back to health.  Indeed, a wood tree that had been looking puny before the attack was brought to nearly full health.  Candy was exchanged.

It was a great way to start the day, and I thank the Glitchen who came from near and far to help defend Aranna.

  • What a wonderful retelling. :) This sounds like a story that is passed from generation to generation.

  • Wow. You are an amazing story teller. I just learned the story of the Rook and wondered, "what will happen next? Do I need to find people to join me? How do I train?" It seems it happened spontaneously for you. I'd love to know what you did to train. I'm happy you were victorious. Long live the imagination.

  • @Josslyn - Sounds like you have been to the museum in Jethimadh Tower and learned some history. That's the first step.  If you learn the skill of Martial Imagination, you can use your orb to launch stun attacks, though it takes the combined efforts of multiple Glitchens to successfully stun the Rook.  That's where the Rook Alerts group comes in.  Members of that group use the group chat to inform each other of Rook attacks, so that defenders of the imagination can gather in sufficient numbers to claim victory.

Once the Rook have been made vulnerable through stun attacks, those with the Piety skill will prime the nearest shrine. Once primed, the shrine can channel the energy it gains from donations. At that point, anyone who is there can help by donating to the shrine. So you can help defeat the Rook even if you don't yet have the Martial Imagination or Piety skill. You also can help to revive and restore the trees and animals who have suffered from the malevolence of the Rook.

Those who are dedicated to fighting the Rook also will want to acquire the Teleportation IV skill so that they can quickly teleport to wherever they are needed. However, if you want to help and are lacking this skill, someone with Teleport V might be able to summon you.

Those with more experience than I may be able to provide further guidance.

  • I always teleport to a Rook attack when someone announces it. I love it, very fun.

let's see what happens if we let the rook flourish. don't stun him and oust him. let him be.

  • All that has happens when you don't fight the rook is he goes away...There are more dead animals and trees, there is no flourishing.
