Multi-part quests

I'm a new player, and I have to admit that I found some things very confusing. The greeter was a fantastic idea, but most of my questions came after I started learning skills and getting new quests. The world becomes very open and unfocused, which is quite freeing but also a little daunting.  I think breaking quests down a little bit might make the whole thing a little less overwhelming.

For example, the first cooking quest requires you to make a cheese plate, a sandwich, and a salad (I think. I'm doing this from memory), but it also requires (obviously) multiple cheeses, tomatoes, and a bun and (less obviously) a cutting board. If the quest were to be broken down to its component parts (First, get a cutting board. Then, get the ingredients, etc.), it would not only stealthily guide the player into creating their first foods and learn how the cooking system works, but it would also allow the user to better keep track of his progress in the quest, provide more manageable goals, and give a stronger sense of progress.

In another quest, the player has to donate to the altars of every giant. I completed four of the five before I stepped away from the game. Unfortunately, when I returned, I didn't remember which four I had already completed. If the quest would break this out, i.e., instead of listing "x/5 giants," state which giants had been completed and which were still left, it would again provide a better sense of direction.

I hope I've been clear and that I'm not offending anyone. Glitch seems like it could appeal to a wide audience, and I think easing that audience into the great freedom the game provides is probably the best way to keep them.

I avoided quests at first since I had no idea what I was doing.

  • I know how to do all the quests and I still avoided them.  Some harder ones become a snap to do later amongst other reasons.  One of the Tinkering quests can't really be put off, though.
