An Inquiry into the Mechanism Behind the Action of No-No Powder

Hello Everyone, I am Sethy and I also happen to be a chemist! All through my time in the world of Ur I have heard talk about No-No, both the pros and cons. Being a good Glitchen myself, I have never touched the stuff, let alone even had it in my inventory. Recently, however, I discovered 5 flaps of No-No while taking a stroll through Eastern Approach. After discussing what I should with it in general chat, this got me thinking a bit. What exactly is No-No? What makes No-No so addictive? What is it in No-No that causes not only its immediate effects, but also its after effects? What creates the high and what creates the crash? There are so many questions about No-No and there seems to be no answers. Thus I ask the community to please help me research what it is in No-No that causes all of the observable (and possibly not observed) effects.

  • What if No-No powder is a neurotransmitter enhancer? The perceived high is simply a byproduct of everything working at a faster (not inherently more efficient) pace.

    The crash comes not only because the enhancement wears off, but that the 'mind' has become dependent upon that level of enhancement. It wants to function at the higher level, and finds that it cannot, but continues to try ... hence the crash and eventual death. (Imagine exercising a muscle 'to exhaustion,' but then still trying to lift a heavy weight.)

    Or, as a complete and total guess, what if No-No Powder was something from the very beginning, something the Giants created. They were able to imagine grander things, greater things, and on a larger scale ... but the side effect was the creation of the Rooks. (If there is a correspondence between Rook attack frequency and No-No usage, perhaps?)

  • Have you watched Limitless, with Bradley Cooper? No-No is NZT :D

    Just kidding, it's like cocaine. It causes a high that gives you crazy energy and mood! 8D but after the effects wear off, you nead MOAR, or you crash and die. Good thing: unlike real life, in the game you can come back from Hell >)

    So the side effects might include a few achievements relating to dying a certain number of times :D

  • You know what I'd really like to see in the game, is a Glitch version of X.  So your character would walk around randomly hugging and kissing people and occasionally roll around on the ground tripping out to music, bahahahaha!  ^-^

  • This is a worthwhile scientific effort. I, for one, would like to either abate or completely mitigate the poopedness of lemcosmine (no-no) reincarnation. We need to develop a synaptic level model of lemcosmine use, I suggest glitchen in vivo use could be investigated at this level by gathering in one or all of Plexus, The Inner Mind, and the Outer Mind, and administering lemcosmine under controlled conditions, and directly observing the effects on the environment.

    I believe experimentation on glitchen beyond this would be unethical and an animal model of administration would have to be developed. Possibly some Earth research could be adapted to Ur.

  • I'd just like to figure out the timing on getting the 11 min badge. Any tips on that? How close to the end of rush's time do you have to be before taking the next one, and so on?

  • @Tibbi--You don't have to take it before the end of the other one, just before the crash kills you. Or at least I didn't have to.

    If you wait until there's only a little bit left, take another one. If you have enough No-No, it shouldn't matter how soon you take the next one, because it will eventually add up to 11 mins.

    Update: Badge obtained. I had thought we have to take the powder while still the rush, like just before it ended.  Knowing it was ok to take the next packet during the crash made it so much easier to do it.  :)

  • Do 3 or 4 in a row Tibbi.  ^_^  You don't have to wait to the end of the crash, just as soon as you start crashing sniff another one.  The first dose gives you 6 minutes, the 2nd, 3 minutes, and the 3rd like 1 minute so you'll have time.  After the 3rd you pretty much die instantly, which is awesome.  ^_^

    Edit- Oh I guess you figured it out whilst I was posting (I've had the tab open awhile lol)...

  • From a neurological perspective, No-no powder affects the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), stimulating our fight or flight response. There is a surge of adrenaline which is evidenced by the seemingly endless supply of energy. Furthermore, there appears to be a spike in the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin as indicated by a constant state of elation. However, as a side effect to this artificial stimulation, the brain cannot sustain itself for long, and will begin to decay and fail if not infused with more No-No. Unfortunately, any additional No-No sniffed after the initial will have half of the effectiveness of the preceding dose. This can be attributed to the decrease in synapses (and neurons) as a result of the previously sniffed No-No. That's right, No-No is killing your brain cells. If the Glitchian continues to sniff No-No in an attempt to sustain this 'high', it will soon find that it no longer has the brain cells that the No-No require to take effect. At this point, the Glitchian will finally succumb to the 'crash', eventually leading to death.

    From a psychological standpoint (because we are all products of the psyche of the collective giants of Ur), No-No influences the psyche of the Glitchian. Once the product has entered the body (via sniffing), The super-ego and ego are destroyed or pacified, leaving an impulsive id to take over. This causes the imagined Glitchian to gain a sense of immortality, with enough energy to accomplish any task. Unfortunately, the id cannot sustain a Glitchian for long on it's own, as it is a fragile and self-destructive  portion of the psyche when left unchecked. Without the presence of the ego and superego to balance out the id, the imagined Glitchian begins to lose it's grip on reality, or in this case, imagined reality (Ur) resulting in death.

  • I've done a little research, and peeked into some No-no labs. I've noticed that No-no requires two different components, Lemene and Cosmox. Cosmox is also a key ingredient in Fertilidust. We all know Fertilidust causes trees to grow and possess more fruit. So perhaps Cosmox is what gives No-no it's potency? Spurring on the energy in us. Except we don't use our energy to grow, but do other things, and since we were forwarded this energy it leads to an absence of available energy later on that leads to death?

    Also if anyone can help explain the use of Lemene that'd be a major help.

  • No-no powder is short duration infinite energy.  And because energy can be stored in the form of processed food, i.e. cheese, some of us use it as a powerful energy source.  I'll sniff a packet and age a large bag full of cheese, then make expensive grilled cheese with it.  This is a form of energy conversion.  I pack all that no-no energy into sandwiches I can eat when not 'on' the rush.

    Every day in Ur should end with a trip to hell.

  • I try to die at least twice a day: one by normal energy loss, and one by No-No. :)

    I really don't see what is wrong about sniffing it, except for the parallel with real-life drugs... and the fact that it has 'No-No' in its name xD

  • well, im all against the use of drugs and illegal substances (in glitch, no-no isn't illegal, but...).
    I used no-no 3 times(in the same day), it's really addicting, all that power and energy...! but than, the rush time begins to get smaller, and you die faster, and you became to only start making more and more no-no... and if you stop you die and all that, so... now i don't use it anymore!
    I recommend to you: try not using it!
