  • I wonder how close to the end of the month this will be happening, or will the release spill into the start of the next month?  I'm too happy to want to wait too long, but of course understand things will happen when they happen.

    yippeeeeee!

  • thanks for the update - too cool ;)
I second a few questions -back to empyreals question -
Will we lose the housing changes we make between R2 Batch 1 and R2 Batch 2 ??
I mean , I am happy to play test ,comment in forums on changes and ideas and all- but would like to know if things will be lost and have to be redone ... (ie I wont be fretting about getting my shelves EXACTLY spaced (to the pixel) of where I want them if I am just gonna have to re-hang them for batch 2 .)
An asistant who greets for my street -sounds like a super-gnome. :D
I am not sure how I feel about a crafting bot ..... But am excited to find out. :)
Also- i still dont understand , which is ok, but i still dont understand about holding quests and if they will reward imagination or not. ??
Like others here I've been avoiding completing some quests -in hopes to have a nice stream of imagination by completing them after the new system arrives ... so this is an important question to me.
I hope these changes do affect it where the " non-lockables in my front yard" becomes a non-issue as Stoot is guessing --as that would be helpful ;)

  • I shall build a shining tower, fit for a princess, and hand in hand my "servant" and I shall jump from the ramparts all the Glitch day long.. and land in a garden of my Glitch dreams :)

Thanks so much for the update Stoot and everthing TS is doing to make the game ever better.. I am more excited that I know how to say :)

My one question is.. If I get to L60 before R2 (and I will!), and I then become an L40, does that mean there will be more levels to complete?

  • Oh, wow, just gets better and better...looking forward to all the changes/updates!

Wondering if the things on our street will be 'moved' during this next transition (know the stuff in the house is ok)...things like gnomes and piggy sticks, etc. Or should be put them in our inventories or inside the homes in prep for the next change?

  • "Sloth & Fox will be critical parts of the ecosystem for furniture crafting so they will be part of the second batch of R2 features. But, you will never find 'em in your house."

So, unlike pigs and chickens and butterflies, we'll never be able to have fox or a sloth in our garden?
Posted 9 months ago by Electric Wizard Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Nope...they will be wild - which is why I'm glad the ones I voted for didn't win :(

    Ty for the update, stoot!!
Some sound cool and the rest I'll just have to try before making a judgement on - but I'm definitely not sure if I like the idea of our little glitchy peeps changing...I like mine how I have her looking.

  • What will be the advantages of building new floors in our houses, apart from decoration purposes? Will there be new badges related to the number of floors? Will we be able to have basements where egg trees may be planted?
Posted 9 months ago by Ygasuasu Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm hoping the peep changes are going to be that we can actually do things like dance (not just with bots), wave, sit, and interact better with our fellow glitches and the environment/surroundings.

I also look forward to the multiple floors and rooms so we can have entertaining rooms, and utility/machine rooms and junk rooms...just like in RL.  And yes, hopefully the basements will let us grow egg plants and maybe eventually mushrooms...

  • I have a question about the new levels thing. If 60 is going down to 40, does this mean 45 is going down to 30, 15 to 10 and generally any x to 2/3 x?

Or is everything above 60 getting pushed down to 40? Just trying to figure up if I should keep trying to get to 60 before the reset or if doing so just wastes my quest and badge rewards.
Posted 9 months ago by Vocable Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Vocable:   Stoot wrote
......(there still will be levels and you won't be starting from level 1). We're "compressing" the levels a bit, so the amount of effort it takes to get to level 60 currently will now take you to level 40 instead. So, everyone's level will appear to go down (it will be a lower number) but it is transposing it to the equivalent position in the new system.

Posted 9 months ago by IrenicRhonda Subscriber! | Permalink
  • No vocable :) The levels work on a, I assume, precisely calculated exponential growth function. The exp needed to get from level 1 to level 36 is roughly equal to the exp needed to get from 59 to 60.

Therefore "does this mean 45 is going down to 30, 15 to 10 and generally any x to 2/3 x?" I'd say no :) Making the levels linearly related in that way would completely change up the way the system is now.

And I simply see no reason why they'd do that ;)
Posted 9 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yes, IrenicRhoda, I did read that, but I want to know what "compressing" the levels means for people who are not at level 60.

Edited to add, thanks so much, Liza! Your explanation and your link (down below this post) back to stoot's earlier explanation were very informative.
Posted 9 months ago by Vocable Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It shouldn't mean anything :) The levels are just a number, they don't necessarily have anything to do with how much exp/imagination you have. What they're changing is the number. Not the amount of imagination/exp you have.

I'd say you SHOULD keep trying to make 60. It will mean you'll have more imagination when we do change over. This post by Stoot gives the clearest explanation though.

  • I can see that most of people are excited about new changes and updates. But I'm quite sceptic. It seams to me that game will change completely. It looks to me that we are moving from "imagination" to "materialism".
Moving toward houses and furniture reminds me of Zynga games. I don't see importance of those things for game. Also, if we will build own neighbourhoods, we can have all resources we need, without even ever leaving it. It kinda kills spirit of adventure. And I can't see what's the point of Ur and maps in that case.
It also almost completely kills every social aspect of game. It becomes like solitaire.
Someone already wrote that there is no need to fix what isn't broken. I agree with that. My opinion is that the Glitch should be moving towards more quests and riddles, than to furniture, housing and servants that will make us more lazy and do things for us. I loved that long distance travelling to find resources and solve mysteries... Now, it seams that all happenings will be in a floors of my future home, if any.
I hope I'm wrong and I just misinterpret improvements.
And anyway, someone has to be critic and pessimistic. :)
Posted 9 months ago by Junuz Brzi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Junuz Brzi, I agreed with you when the furniture and stuff first came out, but I began to think differently about it. I think most glitchen (myself included) have been wishing for a way to make the world more their own. With the new ability to customize our houses & home streets, we get an awesome way to make parts of the world just how we want it, and then invite friendly glitchen over to play. Imagine making your front yard like an awesome version of Ajaya Bliss plus butterflies and rainbows (or, you know, whatever). Or having a 12-story mansion full of spice trees. I think it will be a lot of fun to explore the new glitchen-created spaces, because we can all show off our creativity and because the spaces will constantly be changing & improving as we all grow in imagination.
Posted 9 months ago by Lettuce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Junuz, you're missing a couple of big details in the R2 updates:

    1. We will not be stuck in our own houses.  To get the resources we need to build our houses, if that's what we wish to do, we will have to go abroad to harvest sloths and foxes, and other similar resources.  Because these WILL NOT be available in our houses.  We must go to Ur to get them.

    2. The coding that allows us to build our own houses, and the streets around them, allows us to help build the world the game takes place in.  Quests and riddles are MORE like playing solitaire, than building a world in which other players can interact.

To prove this concept, please take a look at the resource circuits players are already constructing with the test streets.  We are now connecting in very real ways that we never have before in this game!
Posted 9 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • re: Carl, you meant "now connecting" rather than "not connecting," right?
Posted 9 months ago by Lettuce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "New areas of the world"! Does that mean street projects?
I sure hope that explore new worlds would be unlocking more of Ur with street projects - that would be awesome to have them back, and also to expand the Ur side of things again.  I guess I originally read that as our own developed streets...but I'd be even more excited if it referred to both.

It looks to me that we are moving from "imagination" to "materialism".
I guess I view the new housing and such as FINALLY getting to use our imagination to influence our little part of the world.  We can determine if we even want a big or small house, what type of colors to use, what type of gardens to build, what type of furniture, if any, to put in it. Hopefully we'll have ways to display our art in our homes.  Designing things requires a lot more imagination than hand fed quests or games by the developers. And if someone doesn't want to play that new part of the game, they don't have to, they can just keep the house the way it is given to them and just use it as a storage area.  I really think the house design thread shows the unbelievable level of creativity, just with the initial/basic test house that can be done.  Now, if you mean the charge for the stuff being all credit based causing a level of materialism perception...well, yea, I have to agree with you there.  I do worry about how creative folks will really be able to be if they don't have credits or aren't subscribers...I personally think their current wardrobes are pretty pitiful, and if the furniture/housing choices for them are going to be like the wardrobes, the housing change really isn't going to be as much fun for them.  I would agree the changes will potentially limit their in game imagination/creativity, but I'm willing to wait to see what the changes will actually be at this point before being overly worried about it yet.

...game will change completely.... It kinda kills spirit of adventure....It also almost completely kills every social aspect of game. It becomes like solitaire.
I think it's great that some will be able to create mini-communities with their ingame friends with their streets, and hopefully, in the future, with the community halls.  And for those that are maybe less social, they can have fun in those hopefully more trusted areas.  For those that like adventure and socializing with their friends and strangers, they have the total of Ur to enjoy themselves - that's not going away, and is still available for folks to play in.  I guess I see this as a needed and welcome addition to the game that we already have - an expansion to provide more options vice a negative change to the game.  But everyone gets to have their own opinion and express them...that is what beta is for...

  • Lettuce, yes I did!  "NOW connecting" would be correct!
Posted 9 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I, too, worry about the potentially "bowling alone" direction the game changes are taking us.

I am an explorer and a problem-solver. I like the serendipity of meeting new people while out-and-about. IRL I have also have the opposing tendency of being a bit hermetic, so it does me good to have a game dynamic that rewards getting together and working/playing with others.

Many longtime players have large, robust networks of friends in the Game. I hope that TS will provide creative ways to encourage newcomers to develop those too.

  • Junuz Brzi, check out the resource routes through home streets. Things seem, to me, to be getting more social rather than less. Quests (unless they're specifically group quests) & riddles & traveling long distances to find things are more like solitaire to me. I'm super excited about designing my little corner of the world and having everybody come parading though ^_^

  • What I really want to know and it doesn't look like it's been answered here yet (haven't looked outside this thread but I did read through all the stuff in *this* thread here).. will the tools vendor stop accepting stuff and giving us loads of currants, in either of these upcoming releases?  Or is that still at some indeterminate point in the future?

Because I'd like to know how hard it will be to earn back the currants that are getting taken from me automatically to convert to Imagination.  :s

  • Dearest Stoot,
it is my understanding from perusing this thread that my beloved RockHead will no longer be above me but may be on my street/in my house. Please may I ask, will it still give me words of encouragement when my glitchy feet are tired from walking, or perhaps when I just want to "hear" it say something to make me laugh and forget the glitchen that were not quite so glitchy?

LOVE the changes coming our glitchen way. May the Gods of UR smile on everyone in Tiny Speck. May they not leave any unwanted surprises for you to step in. (hehe)

  • Been trying to keep up but haven't seen this asked, yet - Will we be losing our old houses this time around or will it be the next time?
Posted 9 months ago by sgjo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @sgjo, it sounds like it will still be a while...
"With imagination in the game, we’ll be able to do the housing reset and introduce a second batch of R2 features...You will be able to to grow your property, expand your house, add furniture and cultivate resources “for keeps”."

The way I read it is...
So next round is R2 - more home improvement/design options.
Round after that is the big change to imagination.
After both of these, will be the housing reset (ie, loss of our in Ur houses, reset of the imagination homes, and changes at that point to imagination homes will be until we opt to change them).
