XP/Currant Strategies?

I've noticed that some users have levels as high as 90. Presumably, a lot of currants are required to do this. Besides just playing a lot, how did they get there? Is there an exceptionally efficient strategy to rocketing upward in levels and currants?

  • Used to be that singing to butterflies while on gurly drinks would work really well for gaining a ton of xp along with using bunches of nono powder. But those methods have been nerfed, leaving you with mining, grinding and donating as the best way to gain xp. 

    However, gaining xp isn't all good... I mean, it takes more food to fill your energy pool and teleporting gets more expensive since it's a proportion of your max energy.

  • They did plenty of tweaking. Even mining isn't as efficient anymore. But shrines are still the same. So far. I find donating huge amounts of milks with EHSP works well. I'm an obsessive milker. But theres no point. By level 50 you've done everything there's to be done save finishing the achievements page or getting on the leaderboards.

  • It is in the following manner that you may effectively more-than-double your money's worth when donating to shrines:

    Get yourself a pile of eggs. Like, bunches. Just mainly a lot of damned eggs.

    Go to your nearest shrine. Donate your eggs...one at a time! They're worth 5c street value, so you will net 1 favor and 1xp for each donation. This is not what you're really after, though. No way.

    It's the show tickets that really drive this bus.

    Every donation you make gives you a chance for a show ticket. And every show ticket gives you a chance to win a prize! And many of those prizes can be donated right back to the shrine that gave you the show ticket. Furthermore, you get emblems and progress faster toward badges (more xp/c) for individual donations.

    It appears that each show ticket you win reduces your chances of getting another during the same game day, but if you do this ERRRRDAY you will level up pretty fast.

    Around 250 eggs and a hundred grain got me from level 16 to 18 at three shrines last night in under 30 mins. Plus I earned a musicblock collector badge and got some emblems for giants I hadn't yet collected. I was going for more but accidentally tossed a whole stack of eggs into a shrine instead of clicking "just one," lolled, and proceeded to go goof off in general instead.

  • The best way to earn XP is probably to donate to the giants. You get XP collecting the mats, creating the items, and then even more for donating them. Do your emblems every day, eat your three snow cones, etc... It goes pretty fast even at higher levels.

  • (*cough* Level 91. But who's counting?)

    To tell you the truth, I have tried to hold on to the highest level lately only because my son challenged me to do so. As others have said, there's nothing other than bragging rights that's better about being a higher level. The game doesn't have any depth up here (hah).

    I do still sing to butterflies a fair piece, and yes, you need energy to pull that off. And yes, donations. I try to use EHSP and donate a bunch of one type of thing at once to maximize the effect of each EHSP use.

    I think, BTW, that it would be better if there were a zillion more things on the leaderboard, and probably even daily bests. Most butterfly songs in the past 24 hours, the most piggies nibbled, the most trees killed, the most splankings, the most hugs, etc., etc., etc. Lots of things and specifically for a relatively short duration, so that people can work on something and see their name up there just for now. Because hey, that's silly fun.

  • The problem with leaderboards is that a kid who signs up six months after launch has virtually no chance up getting high up there because all of us that stick around will have been grinding away (efficiently since we know everything) and outdo them, unless they play manically or we all stop.

  • the other issue is that the higher the level you are, the easier it is to gain XP.

    each day you get free energy.

    the higher your level, the more free energy you get.

    and so it goes. once you're in front, it becomes more and more difficult for people to catch up.

    people at high level have the ability to more than people at low level on a per day basis also.

    just about the only way to be fair would be to weight performance by level.

    so all the players at each level would have their own leaderboard.

    There might be something to what you are saying, and if so, we should explore it. It hadn't occurred to me, and I'm sure it didn't occur to TS. I'm sure they're planning for just the opposite, e.g., that it's harder and harder to level up. That is what it has seemed to me in playing. E.g., I used to try to level up twice in a (RL) day, but that would be killer now. Lately, I'm happy if I can make some visible progress on the meter bar.

    The daily free energy is about equal to 10 butterfly songs... I think my singing to butterflies costs more energy than yours does. And for my 10 butterfly songs, I gain roughly 1/100th of the xp needed to level up... I think that is roughly constant, regardless of level.

    If there were daily leaderboards for a Zille-ion different things, then people could aim for different ones, if'n they cared, etc. If there were a bunch, there would be room for people to target different things and get their name up there. Nobody could (easily?) be the leader all over the place.

    Hah, and thanks, BB... I am also hoping to get to triple digits before reset!

    well, it *is* harder and harder to level up as you go, which is all that matters from a gameplay perspective.

    the issue is that it is easier and easier to gain XP, which is all that matters from a leader board perspective.

  • I firmly second Clare's idea of a more dynamic leaderboard.  It's not only about level.  It doesn't matter what level you are if you're counting the number of people hugged; if you're specifically going for that goal, for instance, to see your name on a board.  Clare is 92 (as of now) and I am 20 - but I can carry all the energy I need with me for a full game day packed with whatever activity I choose.  It's more about macro and less about level-driven-advantages, if a diverse leaderboard is implemented.

    But I don't think that's right. Or rather, I haven't seen it that way, but I'm sure that you have a point. So, can you explain more?

    Here are some of my thoughts:
    1. You are right that I get more XP than you do at the start of each new game day. But I'm not sure that I get more as a percentage of what it takes to level up. My energy tops out at 5750 at Level 92, and I need 315832 xp to level up to 92. So it would take me about 55 game days to level up based on free XP alone. I am sure that you'd find that your ratio is at least the same, and I'll bet it's better.

    2. I don't think that the XP awards for "doing things" increase based on level, though it's possible that I'm wrong. I get 12 XP for petting a piggy, and 12 XP for nibbling. I get 5 XP for petting a tree, 5 XP for watering, and 6XP for harvesting... is that different for you? I think I do get more for singing to butterflies, but that also costs me more XP. Again, looking at the ratios, I can sing to about 10 butterflies from full XP, and that would be worth in total 3000-some XP, only 1/100th of the XP needed to level up.

    3. My quoins are worth more than yours, but that's seems to be non-linear... my regular XP quoins are now worth 70, I think. My perception (perhaps flawed) is that the value of the quoins is not growing in step with my level... they are becoming less and less valuable, relative to the XP needed to level up. Since I can get only 100/day, there is a cap here, too. But again, as a percentage of what it takes to level up, I do not think I have an advantage.

    4. I think my shrine donations are worth the same as everyone else's. As can be clearly be seen on the leaderboards, I donate a lot. But I don't (think I) get an XP advantage based on my level.

    So: it's my impression that although it is easier for me to gain XP than you, it's harder as a percentage of what I need to level up. I think I have to work harder and harder for each successive level. (And I think it *should* be that way.) 

    What's your perspective on this?

    Ultimately, I imagine they will have to cap the max possible level, if only because they have to plan for how many digits to display. (And they still display that I am at Level 92 "of 40", which is funny.) So probably, it will have to be tweaked so that each successive level is even harder than it is now. But I think the shortened time for things is part of beta? I think everything has to take longer when the game is always open.

  • clare, you've got till probably near the end of Sept per one of the latest postings...so, assuming the game is open for a good amount of time until then, I hope you make it to triple digits also!!!  Here's hoping they have the game open much more as we approach launch and you can reach the goal!  You have us cheering you on!!  GOOOOOOO CLARE!!!!!!

  • Oh, Clare. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but I'm relatively sure everyone can always sing to exactly ten butterflies a day from full energy. I have 560 to start a day at whatever level that is (21?) and I use exactly 56 energy for each sing.

    Though it's possible I didn't do enough singing to detect fluctuation.
