Is Ix a reference to Dune?

Like any nerd, I love Dune. Ix is a planet in it, but I'm not entirely sure what its role played. The only reason I remember it is because it's the ninth planet in its system and IX is the roman numeral for 9 as well. Either way, it just seems to coincidental that Ix also has east and west spice.

"He controls the spice controls the universe!"

Thoughts?

  • I sure can't say, but in Dune, Ix was the machine planet. Arrakis was the spicy planet.  Not that it isn't still a nod...

  • I wouldn't worry about it. Fear is the mind killer.

  • Ix was the planet that developed a successful alternative to spice for navigation. It killed Spice (melange). I read every book including the completion of the series by Frank Herbert's son.
