Only if they are really limited like the Paper trees. Think about it, every other trees resource has several uses but a tree that just gives olive oil or a bee hive that just gives honey? Not really versatile.
Olive trees for olive oil is a bit limited. Hm...*strokes beard* Maybe there could be...just a plain ol' Oil Tree, sort of like a gas tree, but dripping with oil? And when harvested, it could give Obviously Oil, which you could then convert with an Oilifier (better name needed!) into sesame oil, olive oil, oily dressing...
Bees giving honey and streams giving fish are just too ordinary for Glitch, though it would be good to have methods for cultivating each. I'm not generally fond of emo bears, but as a fan of Pooh, somehow they strike me as the most appropriate item in Ur for generating honey. There's an old proverb about birds and fish falling in love that makes me think that fish should come from birds' nests in Fox Preserves.
Although as KhaKhonsu wrote, Olives and Bees are probably too ordinary for Ur. We don't know for sure that Honey in Ur comes from Bees, as opposed to, say, from miniature winged radiant golden bears or something. Then again, we do have Fireflies. It may just depend on how imaginative the Giants are feeling that day. Either way, I love the idea and have thought it myself on occasion.
I started thinking about it again after encountering light bulbs as I had sort of assumed the plan was to move these items into the world, and I was surprised they added a new vender-only item.
Vendor-only items provide a rate limiting force on item creation, so expect a few to always be around. So to make honey you may need a collectable item plus a purchased jar (ala fireflies).
I also think you should be able to make salmon by first turning Obviously Oil into fish oil, and then infusing a slab of meat with it, in an awesome pot, of course.
Sturminator, vendors are supposed to get deprecated in the future, so at some point all the vendor only items will have to have a new source.
Seeing as how butterfly give milk, and chickens give grain and sloths give metal, maybe there could be something like bears who scoop fish out of streams and toss them in the air and you have to catch the fish in a net as it comes back down! And you could have a higher chance of a super harvest of fish if you jump up to catch the fish rather than waiting for it to come back down. And honey could be produced from a new flower which will only grow in gardens / home streets which have at least one firefly swarm on.
I dont care what type of in-game item gives it,and a lot of these ideas are good ones, but more of the Grocery items should be available in-game not just from the vendors, so I'm for ANY idea that incorporates new things into the game to supply the non-supplied grocery items.
Oil Trees would drop a basic oil pod or oil berry or whatever, and you'd use a new, 5th transmorg skill/machine to convert it to the various dressings, olive oils, sesame oils, and so on and so forth. That takes care of a lot of the grocery vendor items right then and there. You could even have it transmorg it to beer and coffee in some twisted, glitchy way.
For Ice or Honey, I wanted a Bunny that you shake. It'd be domesticatable (seasoned egg, baby bunny, etc) so you can name it and have multiples in your house and street.
I like the Oil Tree. And we could add spices for the salad dressing! Lorraine and I are thinking the exact same thing there. And a Honey Bunny sounds BRILLIANT!!!
Agreeing to any and all things that will make the remaining items at vendors available from harvesting said items instead of ONLY being able to buy them.
