Protect your Herbs as long as you are still in the garden?

Can't you (tiny speck) put in protection of herbs that people plant as long as they remain in the Community Garden?  It's getting a little ridiculous with people coming up and taking herbs you planted while you are standing right there.  This will become more of a problem.

  • I was thinking of something like the herbs in community gardens could be "bound" to you. In other words, if you've taken up 4 patches to plant herbs, when they're ready, you have something like a minute to harvest them before they become a free for all. and of course, there'd be a limit of how many patches you can take up in the community patches just so that no one goes around planting all over, of course with a time limit like that, you may not have the time to get em all if you've planted everywhere.

  • I was just in the community gardens and made a mistake of harvesting two spots. I had stood by them for about 10 RL minutes and no one came over to say anything. There were no notes left either. But right after I harvested them,, someone came over and questioned if I had harvested them. I said yes and gave her two thirds of her harvest. Kept one third. I was ostracized and called a thief by others in the garden. Truly.... I had no idea I was tending someone else's stuff. I tried to give the rest back to her but she left. I have since mailed the remaining harvest to her. But my lesson is learned. If there is guano on it, it belongs to someone else. Maybe there should be a list of rules so new people don't make mistakes.

  • I think the thief name calling is a bit much if someone just makes a mistake, but I was in one of the Community Gardens this morning and there were two people who were running around stealing everyone's herbs...they made no bones about the fact that they were actively trying to take herbs before the people who planted them could get to them.  I was standing right beside mine and just couldn't click fast enough to get it.  I even politely asked him if I could have it back and he basically laughed at me and said it was a Community Garden.  I agree that there should be a time limit for the plot to be bound to the person who planted it.  I have planted things in Community Gardens and left them for others to collect...but the person who planted them should have first rights if they are still on that street.  I am sorry you got called a thief Tat2 for an honest mistake.

  • Best thing to do there, Tat2, is to explain and just return the herbs.  Now that is just messed up, tao.  I get really edgy when people start hovering over a plot that I have carefully guano'd and have been waiting for 30+minutes on.

  • +1 one on community plants being unpickable by anyone other than the planter, but after say 10 minutes of real-world time after the plants are full-grown, then they are open to anyone.

  • There should be some kind of system to protect what you are working on. Poachers really steal your time, not just some digital flower.
Posted 12 months ago by Ruprict Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ruprict that's exactly right, it's the TIME issue that bothers me so much.  If *I* have put the time into planting, harvesting, guano'ing, and waiting, nobody else should be able to make use of that but *me*.

Tat I'm glad you realised you were in the wrong and mailed her back the herbs, and I'm sorry she called you a name.  If it was a honest mistake that's one thing but keeping part of her harvest that she was waiting for *after* she told you, that's a little skeevy.  x_x

  • A few people and I had issues yesterday concerning the herb gardens. one person created such a problem with poaching herbs that enough reports were made about her to bring staff in for a second.

Now i understand that staff has to be unbiased, but it felt wrong when we were told that what she was doing was basically allowed, and that our concerns are null because of the current system in place for herbs. We were all told to submit ideas to the 'ideas' forum if we wanted to see any change... and now that there is 2 recent threads concerning plots, maybe they will listen to what we feel we want/need for these situations.

I for one completely approve of a system that locks plants to certain players. I feel it would be too simple to just add it as an option, but feel it should be part of the croppery and herbalism skillsets. Say when you learn croppery III or Herbalism II you get an option after you plant a seed to LOCK that plot, you can choose to lock the plot, or leave it open for others to harvest. when a plant gets locked, everyone could help its growth, but once the plant is completely grown, for a certain time span, only the player who locked it can harvest. Players with the lock option would only be allowed to lock a certain amount of plots (at first 3, unlocked to 6 through the skill tree or achievements, or something.)

If anything, a potion could be made that grants the same abilities to lock a plant as above, just until we get better housing, but for some reason i feel like we may still have issues after that, not sure.

  • This idea goes against the signs. Soon one person will 'lock' all the plots for their own private garden. So not a good idea imho.
Posted 12 months ago by Phochai Subscriber! | Permalink
  • phochai, thats bull, how could someone lock all the plots if their only allowed the option to lock a few? Or even better, when you lock it, it only stays locked for ten minutes after seeds completely grown, and ANYONE who harvests it while its locked automatically picked it for you. IDK.

  • We must obey the signs.  The signs are our moral and ethical guides.  Do not go against the signs, even if 'stealing' seems wrong to you.  Do not think for yourself on this issue, just obey the signs.

  • I agree with the locking, especially if it's only a few that way everyone could benefit.  Seriously, there are 60+ plots in each community garden, if each person could only lock 3-6 plots they could benefit but nobody else could argue that they're using up too much space.

    lol Hackenbush ;) yes obbeeeeyyyy

  • But think if theres 60 plots and your allowed to lock 6 only 10 people at a type would be able to be there

  • Still Santa, that's way more than what I normally see in the gardens.  And for the mass-planters/gardeners (xp whores, like me) it doesn't mean people can't *plant* in all the other plots, only that they won't have ALL THE THINGS locked to them.

  • I don't like this idea at all.

TS already provides a way for every glitch to grow herbs in a private, secure plot.  I'm really against allowing players to make every single herb plot in the whole game into a private secure spot.

  • WindBorn, maybe there could be a limit too as to how many plots in a community garden could be locked at a single time?  =)
Posted 12 months ago by ♪♥~ Auren ~♥♪ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • As was previously discussed in another thread, at length, in order for locking plots to work there would have to be an substantial increase in the number of community plots available.  I suspect that use of the community gardens would go way up if glitches were able to lock their plots.  Why move or share a friend's house when you can just tie up a number of plots in the community spaces?

I'd like to see the community gardens remain community spaces where glitches can plant for anyone to harvest.  I suspect that's what they were intended for.  Hence the signs.

  • How about being able to "upgrade" your house to include an herb garden. I honestly don't use both "gardens" in my yard, make it so I have an option to change one into an herb garden. Or even just individual planters that I can use to decorste the house with...
Posted 12 months ago by Teaggy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I would really like to see some kind of fix to this problem... I liked the idea of a limited number of "garden stakes" that you can use to mark plots -- a small number, and limited times you can use them each day would help keep any glitch from hogging the gardens.

Basically, I am putting off learning herbalism because of all this mess.  Bog houses are in such high demand right now, there are no bigger houses for sale (and haven't been for a while, at least none that I've seen!).  I don't want to get rid of all my stuff, lose my trees and animals and go into a tiny house with only a few herb plots -- especially when I don't know when/what the new housing will be!

But i don't want to deal with planting herbs in the community gardens.  Ugh.

  • Well I think thats the thing about COMMUNITY gardens...if u dont want others to take ur harvest just have a house with a herb garden or a friend who gives u a key to his house ;) I have a herb garden and my friend a crop garden we both have keys for our houses so we both have both gardens :D But I often go to the community gardens just to plant something for anyone who needs it there! I think thats the spirit of community gardens <3

Sorry, miso, but how is he/she in the wrong? He waited by the crop for 10 minutes, there was no note and no one else waiting. What else should that person have done? Are you suggesting that one should NEVER harvest any crop in the community gardens not planted by oneself? What about those of us who regularly plant, not expecting to harvest our own crops? Those crops/herbs would just sit there, taking up space, until we happened to get back by the garden.

As to the people instigating "click wars" that is unfortunate, but should they should not be confused with the people who are simply using the COMMUNITY GARDENS as such.
