Emotions!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's much of a way to animate your character. There should be little animations for happy, sad, surprised, etc. We could even have more animations for when a character gains something, like bending over to pick things up, giving a thumbs up upon gaining a level, jumping for joy when a new skill is learned.. stuff like that.

Also, it gets annoying when I type something in local chat and then hit 3 for the emotion, only to find that the 3 showed up in the chatbar. Perhaps we could choose our emotions from a list?

  • You can type /gr /huh /joy in the chat area instead of hitting 1/2/3 outside it.

  • Woohoo, didn't know that. Thanks!

  • A list isn't a bad idea though, especially if the amount of them gets above 10.

  • It also works with emoticons, and I think lol

  • staff have already said that th e number of personal animations will be quite limited, due to the prohibitive effort needed to create the animations and the increase in the amount of art necessary to render the animations.

basically it would reduce clothing and facial options if the artists had to create even more versions of each asset.

  • I understand that it might be difficult to have lots of animations for lots of faces, but! One thing I've noticed in the mouth possibilities as they are now is the that the majority of them seem lean towards frowning. I chose my mouth just because it seemed like one that was smiling just a bit. It would be nice to have a wider range of emotions available in the neutral mouth and eye choices.

  • If it's prohibitive to create new facial animations, then perhaps we could get some full-body emotes that could make use of the existing facial emotes? For example, a "dance" animation could use the Joy face, or a "surprised jump" that uses the Huh? face. Of course, this assumes that additional clothing states wouldn't need to be drawn for these, which I know is a mighty big 'if'.

If this isn't a possibility, I still hope the staff are looking into other ways beyond chat for players to express themselves. As with any virtual world, socializing is extremely important and the more options given to players to communicate the better. It could even be something as silly as little icons popping up above our heads - for example, a sun for when we're really happy, lips to smooch someone, or a trout for when someone says something really silly!

  • OUTSIDE of the chat box, you type 1 (joy) 2 (confusion) 3 (roar). also, typing "lol" into the chat box triggers the 'joy' emotion, which i think is awesome.
