Subscription: Tin, Copper, or Molybdenum?

If you're subscribing to Glitch, what type of plan are you getting?

I'm not overly bothered with credits, but some tokens would be nice so Tin is not an option for me.
However I'm half thinking that Molybdenum would be a bit overly plenteous and make me a lazy Glitch.

What are your plans? (Or have you already subscribed?)

More information: Subscriptions

Tin:
$30 per year, 1 vote

Copper:
$54 per year, 150 credits and 20 teleports per month, 3 votes

Molybdenum:
$89 per year, 400 credits and 50 teleports per month, 5 votes

  • Huh? Are these subscription levels? First I've heard of them. I'm not subscribing until it opens though. Just a bit of min/max there. :)
Posted 16 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yep, those are subscription levels.

FF, during beta, subs are discounted 50% - you may miss out on that if you wait until launch.  They also don't start officially running until the game goes out of beta, so if you sign up today and the game doesn't open until October, the first year sub doesn't run out until 10/12.

  • My free subscription runs out at the end of this week, so I have this same question. I'm not sure if I want to subscribe. Well, of course I /want/ to subscribe, but can I afford it? XD All that money is a lot to a college kid...

I would really like the Tin plan if it offered SOME credits. Like, 25 a month, or something. I don't use a lot of them, but it seems like a real waste of money as it stands, and for 30 bucks it doesn't seem like you're getting a lot. (Yeah, "access to subscriber-only clothes" and votes. But, that's not really worth it to me.)

Moly seems like a good deal for those that use a lot of credits, but to me it's just too much. I guess I like how I look, and I might change in the future, but... I can just see those credits piling up unused, at least for me, haha. And... 90 bucks. That's a textbook :(

If I get a sub, I'll be getting copper. I doubt I'll use all the credits (again--would love a smaller amount monthly), but I would rather get some than get none. $54 is a lot more reasonable to me.

Obviously, all of these sub plans are great deals, I'm not saying they aren't. But looking at my own needs, the only one that's really "worth it"--meaning it's a good price and it gives me just what I want--to me is copper.

(And yes, I know people will say "Why don't you do it to support a game you love??" because some of us need the support ourselves and can't spend money all willy-nilly, and we need some incentive :[ And I'm a tightwad. So nyah!)

  • Zoei, well put. I think I might go copper as well. :)
Posted 16 months ago by chicgeek Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have the Copper subscription because of all the reasons Zoei mentions. If I'm going to pay for an online game (which I usually don't) then I want at least some credits. Molybdenum is just too much.
Posted 16 months ago by Victoria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I got the Molybdenum one. I don't really see how it makes me lazy, other than using a few teleportation tokens now and again. Doesn't really give me any other in game advantages that I can think of.
Just gives me more credits to buy wardrobe stuff that I otherwise wouldn't be able to get.  I may rarely change my avatar, but I like to know I have plenty of options when it gets too cold out for running around in my undies.
Plus I love this site, and figure that the amount of time I spend here and the amount of pleasure I get from the game, really deserves some kind of contribution on my part.

  • I'm in a cash crunch myself. :( I'm barely keeping my cell on and my web site up. And that's under $50 a month.
Posted 16 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I totally agree with Ebil, I also have the Molybdenum. Besides, who knows what we might need credits for later on :)
Posted 16 months ago by celticlady Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Molybdenum.

The only time I've regretted it was when I felt unsafe here, lol.
Posted 16 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Moly moly moly. If u can afford it and enjoy the game, go for it. I have only used two tokens but those credits are going to build me a mad crazy house one day :)

  • When I first read the thread title, I thought you were going to be offering an in-game subscription service for tin, copper, or molybdenum ingots. As in I pay x currants and you mail me y ingots every week for my skill, cutting out my harvesting time and your auction overhead.

*sigh* I'm thinking too much about Glitch.
Posted 16 months ago by SleepyAce Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @SleepyAce -- that's a really cool idea. You should propose it in its own thread, because it's pretty likely someone will be willing provide that kind of service. Then again... the benefit might be outweighed by the fact that people can just sell ingots in auctions. BUT you never know!
Posted 16 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • (Minor thread hijack for a second... SleepyAce's thought made me think of how easy it would be to do a CSA in Glitch.)

I moly'ed because I was semi-flush two months ago, enough that I knew I would treat myself to a game... and my xbox has been Red Circle'd for a bit. Like, D.Rabbit, I'm stockpiling for the future. But any level (or none!) is a good deal.

  • @LBO -- I believe Miriamele is working on something along those lines and has set up a crop/farmer's market type of thing. I know the idea of having a co-op subscription service has also come up before, where people send in veggies/fruit/crops and get a little bit of everything in return.
Posted 16 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I hope I can find the cash for the subscription before I lose my chance and the specials and all. :(
Posted 16 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I waited a bit before subscribing after they opened them up, but then went for Moly when I had the means. I don't regret it- I use the credits a lot to build up my wardrobe (and saving for the future doesn't hurt either). I haven't used the teleportation tokens a whole lot yet, but it's nice that they're there when I do need them.

If I couldn't have gone Moly when I decided to bite the bullet, I would've gone Copper because it's the credits that seem to be the best deal for me. Having some credits through a subscription means I will less often spend money on credit packages, which is better for my pocketbook. Not that I won't still grab a few packages here and there, but it wouldn't be nearly as often and far less tempting the months I don't have much money to spare.

  • I wonder if you can upgrade at the same rates. I'll have to ask later.
Posted 16 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think that in some thread where someone asked that, stoot or kevbob or some dev mentioned that if you buy the lowest package, you can upgrade to the next for the difference of what you would've paid straight off buying the next tier. I shall have to look for it.
Posted 16 months ago by Little Miss Giggles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh! Cool!... What's the "vote" think, @chicgeek?
Posted 16 months ago by Fokian Fool Subscriber! | Permalink
  • When TS starts posting game features to be voted on, different subscription levels will get different numbers of votes.
Posted 16 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Here are some links to some of the quotes that go with the answer to Folkian's question:

    Stoot said:

"Subscription tier upgrades: Subscriptions will be upgradable from one tier to a higher one (you can't do it yet, but will be able to). This will be true for monthly subscriptions in the future and the yearly ones we're offering now: if you subscribe with, say, seven months remaining on your subscription, you'd pay the difference for those seven months (however, this will probably not be possible if you have less than a month remaining on a yearly subscription)."

    And:

"ScillyGirl5, re "If we get a subscription, but then decide to upgrade, can we do that; and,if yes, which price do we pay for the difference, the special 50% off offer,or the full post launch price?" You will be able to upgrade (you can't yet, but we'll be adding it). And it will be based on the current price difference between the two tiers, not what we change it to in the future. Example: the price difference between Copper and Molybdenum is $35: that's what you'd pay to upgrade it now. And if you upgraded halfway between, it'd cost half that. "

    And:

"DrSteve: Yes — if you buy one of the current annual subscriptions, you will be able to upgrade it to a higher tier by paying the difference between the tiers, based on the current pricing. At some point (when there is not much time left in the year) we'll stop offering the upgrades."

And then Bees! said this about the benefits of subscriptions before and after launch:

"if you buy a subscription now, we'll start giving you the benefits right away (credits, tokens and votes. you'll start accruing them even though you can't use tokens and votes yet). we'll give you the monthly allowance every month until beta ends. at that point, we'll re-start the clock and you get *another* 12 monthly allowances. if beta ends in (for example) 2 months, you'd get 2 'extra' months of free credits/tokens/votes during beta, then the full 12 after beta."
Posted 16 months ago by Little Miss Giggles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • FF: They're labelled as "referendum votes", as kakul says:

"Referendums will proposed from time to time to allow subscribers to decide on feature or content priorities for the game. You can save up your votes, and, if you choose to sit out a particular referendum, you can still apply your votes to the next one.  There is no referendum currently, but maybe soon."

  • Whoops, my fingers slipped multiple times and I'm now subscribed to Molybdenum level.

    :D
Posted 16 months ago by chicgeek Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I went for the Moly. Even though I don't use many tokens or spend much on clothing, I imagine that there will be much more to do with credits in the future and I wouldn't want to miss out on the great deal being offered to testers. Also as the world gets bigger I can see using more tokens to get around in order to save time which to me is my most precious commodity. Right now I'm feeling pretty fat as I watch all my savings pile up. Up til now, I've only paid for one other on line game and it was $10.00 a month. I allowed myself that treat knowing that I couldn't even go to a movie with popcorn at that price. The price of a moly is an even better deal and IMO the potential of Glitch is worth the small risk of paying in advance.

  • @ Zoei

I'm in the same situation myself.. poor college student. But I wanted it so bad! I'd get tin if it had any credits, but I wanted credits so I got copper. To make up for it I canceled netflix haha.. (getting tired of it's stupid interface/cost changes anyways.)

  • Thanks Audaria, fixed now. :)

  • Tin for me.  I'm assuming that there's going to be ALL KINDS of fun things I'll want those credits for.
Posted 16 months ago by Feylin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • moly here, for all reasons mentioned.
Posted 16 months ago by marycontrary Subscriber! | Permalink
  • BTW, upgrades are possible since the quotes referenced above.  I subbed at the Copper level and decided a month or so ago that I'd up it to Moly.
Posted 16 months ago by jasbo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'll buy a subscription once the voting system is implemented. For me, that's the most important part of paying for a subscription; having a voice in the direction of the game. Buying new outfits and such isn't a huge deal for me. So Tiny Speck, voting implementation = more $$. At least from me.

  • Started with Tin, upgraded to Copper, and am mulling Moly.
Posted 16 months ago by Lilith Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I bought the Molybdenum, because the credits will be good to get and the price wasn't bad.  Also, unless my playing/spending gets totally out of hand, it looks like it's all the money I will have to spend on Glitch for an entire year.  That makes it a super deal.  And I had the money ATM.

  • Doesnt the Moly sub get 50 tokens per month?
Posted 16 months ago by MaryLiLamb Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I got Molybdenum a while back. I probably don't play as much as most folks here (and I'm not really very good at the game), but I wanted to suppoort Tiny Speck because I do get a lot of enjoyment out of the game. ^_^
Posted 16 months ago by Zannah Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Moly for me.  Bit unclear if teleports stack up from month to month if not used or if it is a use it or loose it.  Kind of addicted to buying wardrobe items--kind of embarrassing but fun.  Have really enjoyed the game so far and wanted to show my support.
Posted 16 months ago by Artilect Subscriber! | Permalink
  • TP tokens definitely carry over. Everything carries over; tokens, credits and votes. I am loving the 3 months of benefits I've gotten so far and my year hasn't even started yet. I am still on the fence about buying credits but since we get that doubling credit deal, I see myself caving in before launch.
Posted 16 months ago by MaryLiLamb Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I did the Moly, it comes out to 25 cents a day. Where else can you have this much fun for
so little money? Thats a great bargain for the hours of enjoyment I know I will get from Glitch!
Posted 16 months ago by Saba Moon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I debated about subscribing.  I wanted to support the game (love it!) but every time I'd be all ready to subscribe something (in game or forums) would give me pause.  I finally subscribed at Moly!  I had the money, it's a great deal (if you can afford it), and I'm really, really looking forward to being able to expand (not just decorate) my house.  I'm not into clothes much (here or RL) so I haven't spent very much on them.  I have used a few teleportation tokens and I really enjoy that!

Posted 16 months ago by Atlantis Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Parrow Gnolle:  Great point and thinking. Sure, it's more than the other packages, but it provides a limit for a one-time expense.

MaryLiLamb: Whoops again. Must have not had my coffee when I posted that yesterday. Thanks!

Saba Moon:  When you put it that way... ;) *subscribe*

  • Is this entire thread populated by people working on this game? Everyone gushing about the most expensive subscription tier, and not a single post questioning the actual pricing level. Come on, no one would pay more than $20 dollar total (not annually) for a similar game if it was bought in the store.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • I don't work for TS nor do I have any business relationship with same, except for purchasing my Moly sub, which I did with no reservation.  I love this game and have tremendous faith in what it will become :o).  Just my 2 cents.

@Zoei, Not sure if this was mentioned above in response to your post, but your Free Subscription renews automatically every month as long as the game is in Beta.

  • Silster: I feel it's comparable to other similar game pricing, such as Puzzle Pirates. Unlike most store-bought games there are no bulk 'patches' - updates are constant and nearly instant.  If you don't feel the subscription is worth the price, then it may not be for you. It's all about personal experience and preference... as well as wallet health. :)  Also keep in mind that these are beta tester prices and will change on launch.
