Anyone else feel frustrated - seem to have to refresh so often ruins the game play

I respect TS is doing everything possible to  get a super game on the market but at what expense.  I feel weird things happen which require me to refresh very often to correct whatever it is.. today I asked if new days were now 1 hour earlier since our (EST) clocks were changed - Help told me to look at the clock? Is it just me? Would appreciate your comments please and encouragement.  Thank you

  • Well ... Glitch's clock doesn't change (it's on GMT/UTC -- as an international game, it makes sense that TS wouldn't tie its time to US states -- and not all of those). So, when a location (say, the US east coast) makes a local change, then the not-changed Glitch time does appear to change as a result. I also am on the US east coast -- so yes, for us, Glitch's clock has moved one hour.

Regarding refreshing -- yes. For me, the game lags much more than it used to. Refreshes help, but even right after a refresh, there's still lag -- just less of it. But we're still in beta. So, adding content and tuning undoubtedly continues in parallel. Suck it up and wait and see, is about all we can do.

  • Thank you Spockian - Your response re the time change is respectful and  I  guess I did not know what basic time TS was on - thank you for telling mer and confirming we in the east are 1 hour earlier now.
Just do not know where to go to get an answer to a question;  the chat is exactly that a chat and occasionally someone graciously responds to a question - hate to disturb  Live Help as they  are probably overwhelmed  and must get many "silly questions"  I guess my query fell into that category....perhaps they are  overworked.
    Appreciate your reply  Thank you

  • Think of this way, Ur is like much of Arizona, no daylight savings time.

Anyway, perhaps they did not understand your question.  To be fair to the guides, they try really hard to help everyone, and they are volunteers, and not all are located in the United States.

  • @DTA: Live Help advised you to look at the game clock at the top right.  Not your home clock. The new game day starts at midnight, whatever your local time is.

  • I might have been the guide who tried to answer your question about the time - I do know people have asked about it. As IrenicRhonda said, it was meant to point out to you the game clock in the upper right corner, so you could see for yourself how Glitch time relates to whatever time it is where you are, at any time of the day or year. Perhaps you already knew about that clock... but a lot of people don't notice it.
I'm sorry if my answer seemed less than respectful. It was not meant to be. Yes, sometimes Live Help gets busy, and sometimes our answers might seem a bit "short" because of that. But still do ask your questions - it's not a bother or a disturbance, it's why we are there. I'm sorry if you felt your question was a bother. Sometimes our written answers don't sound the same to the person reading as they are meant to sound by the person writing, but we really do want to help people.
Lots of players volunteer answers in Live Help. Some are Guides, some are not, but they all like to help. Each person has their own style of answering, some are factual, some are more funny, some give short answers, some give longer answers. Each one is still trying to help in their own way.
As for the problem of needing to refresh often, have you run the self help test? You can submit your results at the bottom to see if staff can offer any other suggestions. There are also tips in the FAQ. (It says problems loading the game, but also helps with other issues.)

  • I feel that my Mac will soon not be up to the task of Glitch, it's simply too old/slow to handle the client load that the game puts on it. I can play on my hubby's machine with no problem, though. It just means a lot less time that I'm able to play. I'm not able to load my house on my computer at all; I've nearly emptied the 40 or so SDBs and shrunk the size 5 times in an effort to reduce lag. Maybe I need to ditch all of the furniture, too. Seems kind of counter-intuitive.

While I understand that game companies have to develop with a mind towards the newest technologies, I do believe that the client side load will prevent a large segment without that newest equipment from playing. This is the first time that I've had to download special software (smcFanControl) in order to keep my machine from overheating. If I wouldn't have noticed that it was Glitch burning up my machine, it would probably be toast by now.

It also affects TS's bottom line; if we're unable to purchase furniture or go into decoration mode to place it, we won't be real enthusiastic about buying more credits. As this and subscriptions are TS's only revenue streams from the game, I hope that the issue is addressed and corrected.

  • Actually terra, TS is way behind on performance work in general. (There have long been known client performance and server lag problems which haven't been successfully addressed.)

They also don't even fix bugs related to the "newest technologies". I.e., the client doesn't work well on the new generation of MacBook Pro laptops (with Retina displays).

Many of us have said repeatedly that TS should prioritize performance and bug fixing higher relative to producing new content, but apparently they disagree.

  • In fairness, a lot of the problems are becasue of memory leaks in Flash, Firefox, and Chrome. Tiny Speck doesn't have any control over other developers' mistakes. Of course then you have to wonder why they chose to build an MMO in Flash in the first place.

Janitch, I think TS put a lot of developer time into the GPU client. I don't know what's going to become of it. It ran better on my 4-year old gaming computer than the normal client but there were a fair number of bugs.

Glitch is actually pretty lightweight compared to graphical MMOs like Rift or World of Warcraft. I can sort-of get Glitch to run on my netbook, at least well enough collect my meat and milk and feed my piggies. That's completely out of the question with other games I play.

  • I have AAA, 3d games that don't do resolutions above 1980 X 1080 -- I think you're asking them to design for the smallest possible subset of computers.

  • Houses that have been extended and/or extensively decorated cause me the most performance grief. I find it essential to reload after leaving my house, no matter how long I've been in the game.

Ur streets are about the same as they've always been - tolerable until you hit a street with 10+ more people, or when people sprinkle powders. Houses, on the other hand, are waaaay worse than the old style houses.

In short, reload after leaving your house.

  • quick question, do you mean lag in Ur or on home streets?  home streets can load slower it seems to me, and a house can be especially bad if you have it loaded with 200+ sdbs AND a fair amount of decoration.

I had to move 50 sdbs to my tower and the lag in my house cleared up.  I keep minimal deco in it as a rule - its more of a place to store stuff and make things, not a pretty place to look at.

in my experience houses are not nearly as laggy as the old ones, simply because we are not forced to make piles/piles of bags everywhere if we choose to hoard lots of junk.  I dont have 12k boards sitting on my floor in the new house (plus everything else).

my house and front/back yards are filled out all the way, if that helps - and I have a lot of sdbs (238, + 6x32 cabinets), still.  its not so bad loading.  and my machine is 6 years old, based around an Opteron 1218 cpu and 4gb of ram on XP.

  • It was me that you got offended by, I think. My answer was along the lines of "Glitch's time has not changed - the time in your country has :D".  Along with another comment "Check the clock up top" I felt that the answer to you was complete.

But I do I apologise if my answer sounded abrupt or harsh or whatever. It was certainly not meant to be. I do know that some times language does not help, so I try to include smilies - hence the :D face up there. But it does not always do the job, it seems!

So, yep, very sorry if that came off the wrong way. Do certainly come back to Live Help if you have any problems. And nope, no question is silly and we do our best not to overlook anyone. We're there to help and we do try to do so :-)

  • Zany Serendipity and Zoi - wow! I am truly impressed and moved that YOU care................
Please fellow Glitchens read this forum and see that YOUR  feelings (not just how your game plays or not) matter.   I am the one who should apologize for being so silly who totally overacted.
Thank you  for being so special  that is what keeps the spirit of the game alive - cannot please everyone all the time, me included.  Will be more patient and  understanding in the future of all the difficulties with people like me that you must succumb too..... You made my day................
    Thanks Again DTA
PS I regrettably do not know the shortcuts for emotions like :D or :-) etc................
