If I wanted you in the pen, I would have put you in the pen!

Or: The animal pen is great and all, but couldn't we have the option of keeping our pets elsewhere? I wanted my butterflies on the top floor and the piggies roaming free on the grass outside the pen (thus leaving me with a pen full of chickens to squeeze without interference). But nope, my released free-roaming pigs headed straight for the pen, and my butterflies practically flew through the floor in their haste to join them. Part of why I wanted a bigger house was to keep the animals seperate, so I wouldn't have to click 50 times to reach that final piggy that needed petting or that last unsqueezed chicken. Why does my animals seek out confinement?

  • I see the pen as a BIG advantage that I wish I had in my cottage in Bortola.  Maybe when house alterations are introduced there will be some options for the pen that will please you.  I can understand how you might prefer a different arrangement.  As for me, I am tired of piggies eating from my trees, butterflies being milked when I intended on petting my trees, chickens and pigs being underfoot when I am trying to harvest vegetables, etc.  I look forward, hopefully, to the ability to build a pen in my own yard and keep all of my animals in it.

  • There does appear to be a compelling need for the animals to head straight for the pen.  I keep my pigs one floor up in my firebog house.  They seem to work out there okay.

  • A rather fun bug I just discovered......  If you hatch an egg, say a piggy egg, outside the pen, and raise baby piglet to big outside the pen.... he stays out. :)

  • Slappy I nearly choked on my coffee reading this!! So funny about the butterflies going thru' the floor to join them....but yes they do seem to gravitate to the pen area, I think it must be an anti-claustrophobia thing they have going on.  But Lady id I'd watch that pig - he'll find a way...

  • Lady: Yeah I'm pretty sure he'll find his way there sooner or later, mine stayed outside the pen for a little while too.

Melodious: Thing is, shouldn't they like it on the top floor? There's no rail, it's high up, seems like that would be less claustrophobic than a pen full of pigs and chickens.

  • Yes LOL that's why I put anti before the claustraphobia - it was meant to be that they like it...that way.  I think I've been playing too long today!!  Brain stopped functioning >.<

  • I was hoping too that my butterflies would stay in my garden but nope, it was the pen for them too.  >_<
Maybe the devs can give us a fix or option to choose where the animals go?

Edit- Then again, I love that my piggies stay in the pen.  LOVE that feature!  And my chickens, they seem to hit an invisible wall trying to fly out.  *giggle*

  • Hopefully with house customization we can build a pig pen, butterfly pen and chicken coop all separate.

  • I couldn't agree more! In fact, I would list this as the top reason I packed up and moved from my 50K house back to a nice cottage where my animals can roam freely (and even better, more dispersed). I don't mind navigating multiple targets when selecting a [tree|chicken|pig|butterfly], but when they're all bunched up together as happens in the pen, it drove my batty!

I'll be happy to reacquire a larger pad if this ever changes, as I certainly enjoyed the additional floor space of the glitch mansions. In the meantime, roam free, I say! :)

  • Melodious: Haha, I know the feeling, been hitting Glitch like it's No-No Powder the last week or so.

Aye, probably house customization will take care of this issue (cannot wait at ALL for that, I'm so excited! :D), I just needed to vent my complaints about it right now. But overall, I do love the additional space of the fancy insane asylums (so. much. white.) - I haven't even filled up my cabinet yet, so I'm not sorry I upgraded. Plus, you know, I live on a street called Khoul Bheens - with a name like that, I'd be happy in a shack. ;)

  • I fully support this idea.  And that's unusual.  Because I usually think everything is dumb.  Now, having looked at OP's name, I need to go watch some old school tiny toons
