Street Projects: How much should I do?

I try to be helpful if I ever enter someone else's street.  Today I had something interesting occur, probably since i don't go to too many other people's streets.  There were at least 8 projects that had not been started.

How much (having not depleted any of these resources) is the appropriate amount to contribute?  I went back home and got some supplies, but didn't have what it took to complete them.  Is 20% ok?  50%?

I'd like to know what others think so I can get on the same general page.  I treated this one like a tip for a waiter (20% at least) and if i'm the one that creates the project, i complete it all.  Thoughts?

  • Personally, I add whatever I've got that helps on the project, in amounts that depend on my generosity and what's in my pack.

The last street project I contributed 1 plank, 'cause that's what I had in my pack.   I would have donated a few other things, but eh, I didn't have what the project wanted.

  • Do whatever you can. Everyone involved benefits with img and resources.

  • "and if i'm the one that creates the project, i complete it all"

As far as my street goes nobody has to feel like this - resources are used by multiple people. I only want people contributing what they want to.

  • "As much as you want/can" is my rule as well, as long as there's no signage to indicate otherwise. If I deplete a resource myself, I try to complete the project on my own, but it can't always be done. Not knowing how the owner of the street feels about contributing to projects (maybe they want to do them on their own?) makes me a little uneasy, so that's why I made a "welcome sign" on my street so people know that they can do the project or leave it without any residual guilt :).

  • I usually won't *start* a project for someone else, since they might rather get rid of the broken thing than restore it.

Other than that, though, I help out whenever possible.

  • I like to spend materials on projects, since it seems like a pretty decent way to convert materials to imagination. So, I'm always grateful if people announce projects they can't complete on their own, either to the corresponding resource route manager/group chat, or to global. Judging from how quickly these projects get taken care of when such announcements are made, there are others who feel the same way... so I recommend doing what you can/want, and announcing what else is needed to some other group of glitchen.

Also, I'd remind folks to check any nearby notes before restoring anything. I've jumped the gun a couple of times and restored stuff I shouldn't have.

  • Like all questions about etiquette, you will get different answers from different people. Here is mine: I'll pretty much always toss in whatever items I happen to have on-hand. If I've been heavily harvesting, I'll try to fully repair what broke; otherwise, I'll announce it on global chat and move on.

  • I have always fixed any item that broke, if it happened with my usage.

  • I generally carry around a bag of restoration supplies when I gather on people's streets. I will restore anything that died while I was using it and anything else that I have the materials for.

  • So much good advice on here.  @Grackle, what do you keep in your bag, if you don't mind me asking.  That is a brilliant idea.

  • I have 150 lumps of earth, 72 blocks of peat, 48 loam, 48 hooch, 3 barnacles, 3 jellisac, 2 fertilidust, some planks, a couple plops, and something that seems to have been replaced by a potato (probably  essence of hairball). I will change it sometimes depending on what I'm gathering. I also carry boards and plain crystals with my regular stuff.

  • I don't carry restoration supplies with me as it's so easy to just pop home and get anything needed by a particular project.  If the harvest item is used up and turns into a project while I'm on the street, I'll usually try to completely restore it myself. If I run across a partly-completed project while travelling streets, I'll usually pop home and get some or all of the materials to contribute to the restoration.  Depends on how many I've already worked on that day.  Grackle, thanks for the list of what you carry.  I'm going to put together a special restoration bag to carry too.

  • I just put in what I can, regardless of if I find it broken or if I break it.

  • I always read the street's note poles when I arrive so I know if there are any restorations not desired (I've really only seen these right next to the resource, which is pretty nice), or well, any other curatorial requests.

Other than that, I restore everything completely, because I love doing restoration projects! Not for the iMG, just because I like doing it. So obviously, I have a couple bags full of project materials.

  • If its not fun for you, just pass along a note in global -- I love to restore stuff, as do many others.

  • There is a badge for contributing more than 50% to a street project.

  • If I come upon a project I do what I can.  If I break it myself I panic!  I know that a number of people contributed to this break but for some reason I feel personally responsible (Yikes!) so I hurry home and get what is needed to restore it.  I return then to restore the whole thing but often it has already been restored by someone else (what a relief!)  :D
