Could we have the option to have everyone but those on our friends list blocked from coming onto our street without friending and blocking the whole rest of Ur?
Agreed - some granularity would be ideal in visitor permissions. I would like to have the ability to open and close the availability of my street depending on my mood, plans for the day, from my friends only to those who have friended me, or the whole of Ur through to hermit mode.
Codewise, I don't know how feasible this may or may not be, but I would loooooove it if a red closed for business sign appeared, over my plank on the signposts of friends, to those whom I have excluded from my visitor circle for the day.
Why? Now that it's clear we will have plenty of backyard space, if you want private resources only, just put them there. If you don't feel like talking to visitors on your street, just don't talk. If you want to have a private gathering/party, have it inside your house.
Nothing was said about a private gathering/party. I learned long ago in alpha that if you want a secure party the only way is to have it in your house. I have no interest in having the resources on my /home street remain private to me. But I would like the OPTION of closing my street to friends only. Obviously you would not use that option Omnika, but I and many other Glitchen would. Not every option is for every person.
It's been pretty much rehashed many times that while we do in a sense have partial ownership of our home streets in that we choose what they contain and all, they are likely remaining semi-public in the end. Having an anti-social option basically defeats that purpose. I understand and sympathize about many of the reasons people want to close streets off to only friends, for example, putting stuff on our streets and not having them taken by random visitors; I have had things on my street taken too. But at the end of the day, there is a backyard that serves a similar purpose that your friends can visit if you give them a key.
I think, regardless of personal preference, the ability to have restricted home streets could add an extra element of game play.
Suppose you could only get to someone's house if you knew the way, and that way was defined by a network of other players, and ultimately set by the owner of the house?
If I want a little hermit house in the woods, it doesn't help me if any old person can just zap themselves there. Suppose I want to restrict who can find me? There are loads of reasons why a player would want to do this, and why it could also appeal to players trying to get there. It could become a puzzle or a quest outside of the standard game interface - one that's entirely player driven.
