And upgrade to let you see that new Glitch glow!

So, we have a quest to give gifts to newbies. However, I always found it kind of cumbersome to figure out who's a newbie. I know a lot of players like to continue giving gifts to newbies after they've finished the quest.

I would love to get an upgrade to allow me to see a little glow of some sort (or maybe crepuscular rays) behind the heads of newbies, maybe up to level 5 or so. Maybe a bit higher. Remember back in alpha when we could see players' levels for a little while? A very, very limited version of that.

The upgrade could be unlocked after getting the Noble Philanthropizer achievement, to tie it to a good sort of use of the data :)

  • I like this idea. A user-chooseable setting for which level would be the cut-off would be great.

  • This would be really useful. Bumping for consideration again.

  • Love this idea - and I personally would love to see it up to say level 10 since even after level 5, folks are still pretty new in game (maybe it's a green color if they are 3-5 so we know to give them gifts for the quest (if it is still in our queue), and otherwise it's just a pretty white or yellow glow).

Would also like to hover over another player and get their level number.  I get that the automatic display was probably removed to keep folks from competing for levels, etc. But sometimes, I'd just like to know what level someone is without multiple clicks.

  • I don't think any group of players, newbies, max-skilled, max-leveled, or whatever, should get special consideration in the interface.  I would worry that some people would end up teasing and bullying the newer players as often as trying to help them.  I wouldn't mind having a hover that lets me see anyone's level.  Something that applies to everyone in the interface seems a better idea to me, and I'm slow enough with the clicks that frequently a person has left the street by the time I get their info.

  • A hover would be second-best, because by the time you've got your mouse over someone they could be half a street away and disappearing fast. Also, if you click on them, you end up going to where they are/were. It's just really not a good discovery method.

It would be helpful if Level was shown in the pop-up menu you get from clicking on someone's name in chat. That would cut down the click-factor by half.

  • +1 for showing the level. I like Pascale's idea of it showing it in the list when you click on someone - of any level.

  • Yes! Yes! Yes! Please display levels!

  • It does display their level when you click on their name in chat if you hit the info tab once you click on their name, just so you know. I don' think having an obvious indicator for any lvl is a good idea, low level, bombarded with people trying to help or gifts(which too much could scare new players off), also due to being given things so much at first some get the impression that begging is ok), higher levels to prevent excessive begging. And any lvl for harassment for a variety of reasons

  • Great idea, but wouldn't making a level tool tip be much simpler?
