Make Penpersonship free

Notes are often one of the best tools for Glitchen to organise social things, whether the note is left on a signpost, in a hard-to-reach place for explorers, near a tree or in the middle of Gregarious Grange.  And yet we are basically punished (to the tune of a few hours learning, and the bump on future skills) for picking up Penpersonship, a skill which has almost no use except for enhancing the community).

I think the devs should encourage more note writing by either making Penpersonship "innate", or at the least making it so it doesn't "count" against the number of skills you can learn before it increases skill times.  You already need to get paper to use it, and carry a quill.  That's enough of a barrier to entry.

(PS:  An early quest which requires you to talk in chat channels would be pretty cool too, a lot of Glitchen don't seem to realise for many levels that anything besides Local is even there, let alone about Groups and things of that nature.  They're a bit too hidden in the UI).

  • A couple hours is a pretty short time, though.. And this way, you have to know it's something you want to use; so while it is a really small buffer of time (Though helped by the consequence of future skills taking more time), I would guess it would cut down on spam to a certain degree. I know I went out of my way to get it to be able to leave hints and tips.

As for the 'Chat Channels Quest,' I think it should be mentioned that they're there, yes - but I think it would be awful to make it a quest to post.. It would just spam the Global Chat with things like 'hai quest bai,' which with new players flowing in, would really get annoying. :/

  • But Azh, we already do get that, it's called "anyone know where I can find a wood tree?" :)

I guess I don't have an issue with Penpersonship costing a couple of hours to get if it doesn't increase the time for other skills. The increase in time for other skills is much, much more than the time it would take to learn Penpersonship.

  • Except that was an actual question. :/

Which emphasizes my point - if it's a pain to have normal noob questions asked, think of what it would be like if everyone had to post. :P
