One cannot survive without the other
Mining <--> Baking

amen, which is why I joined both groups
-
I also joined both, leaving much the same argument upon both groups' discussions.
Mining and Cooking skills go hand-in-hand. Mining provides profit, which allows you to earn emblems and purchase tools and ingredients for your cooking, which in turn provides you the energy and mood needed to continue mining and improves your profit by saving you money on food.
Practice both, and it's an endless cycle of positive outcomes. Profit and efficiency; two great tastes that taste great together.
-
One I do IRL, the other, only virtually, alas...
-
Alas... I joined the cooking group to troll it...
-
Also doc, rocks taste good?
-
Not currently but maybe I can convince a dev to produce a rock-based recipe, in honor of this brief feud and its peaceful resolution.
Plus, you can't deny that miners love these.
-
Would that be rock cakes by any chance lolhttp://britishfood.about.com/od/recipeindex/r/rockckaes.htm
-
That's a good inspiration, Misha. Though, I was thinking a bit more of a literal rock cake. Do me a favor and post that recipe in the idea thread I linked. Maybe it'll help inspire the dev to create an actual rock-cake item ingame!
-
We should be able to make MSG with Alchemy.
-
Rock Candy or Pop Rocks? Oh, wait, then we need soda for the later as an alternative fuel source. I mean, really, who wants to keep digging up all that stinky peat? What if you stumble across a mummified Glitch in there?
-
Mmmmm... peat bog + water + barley + hops + yeast + Scotland = Scotch... - Scotland = whiskey... aged in a new charred oak barrel + 51% corn in the mash = bourbon.
Now there's a recipe both sides can get onboard with!
-
Which groups to join? Chefs of Glitch? and ??
-
Whatever.... Everybody knows gardeners are best. :-P

i do not agree the the premise of this topic.
mining does not benefit from cooking. i've been mining extremely successfully since the reset without picking up a single cooking skill or trading/buying from any cooks.
-
@ striatic: Well, aren't you just the parade rainer :) Maybe we who both cook and mine are having more fun....heh
-
consider your parade rained on : ]
i'm sure one day cooked food will become more vital for miners, but it hasn't yet.
-
stri: there are different forms of mining. Of course it's perfectly possible to be a successful miner without cooking, but it's untrue to say that mining doesn't benefit at all from it. It's very convenient to be able to whip up a meal on the spot when low on energy, and while it might seem like a hassle, when you have a lot of cooking experience it's a lot more convenient than having to find a food vendor and buy it.
-
I like cooking enough, but I agree with @stri that you don't need to cook to mine. I fill up my lunch bag with meats before I head to the mines--likely as my West Virginia granddad did. My strategy was to gain the mining skills quickly so I could buy my homestead. (Was foolishly worried that the housing stock would be depleted at the game reset since there were no homes available in the areas I wanted pre-reset.) Mining and AK were my starting points--with a few tree handling. I didn't turn to the food prep trees until later. And this is to build xp, etc.
I am pretty much Switzerland in this "controversy." To each his/her own. But I did want to get the facts straight.
-
The premise of the topic is peace for the pretend fighting between the mining and cooking camps. Bringing facts into this only screws up the jokes.
-
@tingly actually, explaining the premise is what screws up the jokes.
-
@tingly, mac is right.
-
I'd been waiting for someone to say that before I even posted it. We have a WINNER!!! [Make that 2 winners.]
Both screw up jokes and this isn't @twitter. ;-) It's like if I say, "A horse walks into a bar and says to the bartender..." and someone interrupts with, "Horses can't talk!" Any hope for a laugh is gone.
-
And I say a feud is no fun once resolved!
; throws a rock at a miner and points at a chef, "(s)he did it!"
-
cupcake, whipping up food on the spot doesn't actually lead to net energy gain in most cases.
doc oblongata has a topic on this very subject.
making Earthshakers, on the other hand .. although you can buy those from Helga : ]
p.s. explaining the premise really is what kills things. at least what I'm bringing up has the potential to re-spark a glorious feud.

HOW DARE YOU THROW A ROCK AT ME!!!
-
I WILL EAT EVERY PIECE OF FOOD YOU HAVE ON YOUR BODY
-
LEAVE YOUR INTESTINES AND HEART TO THE VULTURES
-
AND PUT YOUR EYEBALLS IN THE CRYSTALLIMIZING CHAMBER
-
Your rocks have come back to stab you in the back.
-
I will tie you to a post, steal your pick, and pelt you with every rock you have ever mined.
-
Hah, but I will just buy a royal gaurdsman over with all my money and crush you to the ends of HELL! Your own food will turn rancid and pelt YOU in the face
-
All I did was kick a dead horse, but Dr. FrankenPaula brought it back to life. It's alive! ALIVE!
-
Since I know everything there is about squeezing fruits, I can get out of Hell in seconds. You, however, will be stuck for ETERNITY trying to squeeze the grapes, because you know NOTHING about food!
-
I will tie you to a post, cut your head off with your own knife, and grill your balls with mike tysons help.
-
Ah, But I can pay hades to keep me outta hell!
-
ok, this is really going nowhere. can we be a little more adult about this discussion?
-
-______________________________________________________________-
-
um, okay then.
-
I think that the only conceivable way for cooks and miners to make peace is at a pub, over a round of earthshakers.
-
+1 striatic lol
-
*sigh*
And here I just recently bumped this thread. Now I'm starting to regret it. I'm not angry, though. I'm just so very disappointed by both miners and chefs right now.
-
Hey! I'm trying to keep the peace here!
-
Just... just... is it too much to ask that both groups bury the hatchet already? I mean, I can understand pride in your profession, but this is getting out of hand.
-
you are completely and absolutely right. HOWEVER, I must say that I have been trying to drop it, but certain miners feel the need to bring it up again.
-
I mean...look at the original topic of this thread, and who posted it.
