Whimsical Wednesday - Houses Release 3

The game is now open! Check the new thread for feedback: http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/20792/

------

The game is currently closed until sometime Thursday morning, Pacific time. The conversion process is running slower than anticipated, and we want to make everything goes just right, so we will not be open until we are ready.

------

Good morning campers!

Today brings release 3 of the new housing system, marking a full reset of houses.

The game will be closed for a few hours while we perform the reset
.

Do not be alarmed! Only houses are being reset.

After the reset is complete, your house will have been reset to the starter size, with no cultivated items and no furniture. Any upgraded furniture in your house or your furniture bag will be removed. You'll be given a small set of starter furniture in its place.

When you enter your new house after the reset, any items that you had in your old house or your testing house will have been moved into your new residence. Just unpack your moving boxes to get started.

A single moving box will contain multiple boxes for the old house, your test-house home street, test-house backyard and each floor of your test-house.

So that's what the reset entails, but what about new stuff? Well...

Furniture can now be crafted by players. Get building!

‌• Your new houses will now have their own web page, linked from your profile. You'll be able to easily visit other people's home streets from there (as well as from their "info pane" in the game client).

Once you've chosen/purchased a furniture upgrade, that choice is 'sticky'. If you upgrade a chair to style A, then switch it to style B, you'll later be able to switch back to style A at no cost. The same applies to your house chassis.

The initial furniture we give you is soul-bound. This means you can't give it away to other players. Other items may gain this property in the future.

Furniture can now be traded - either by using the 'give' verb, dragging it to another player or using the player-to-player trading system. You'll get an extra warning when you try to trade upgraded furniture. Auctions for furniture will be added in the near future.

Furniture should no longer drop through the floor when you're placing it on your 2nd floor. Or your 3rd - houses can now be 3 floors tall.

All street styles now have music.

Furniture items all have their own web pages, as do the upgrades. You can browse and bookmark your perfect setup while you're waiting for the reset.

The furniture bag is now sorted, to make finding your furniture easier. And it'll now be accessible anywhere in the world, to allow your to trade your items.

The old houses are fading away. Visit the abandoned apartment blocks to reminisce.

There's probably some more stuff hidden in there too, so take a look around, kick the tires and lets us know what you think.

update #1: The housing FAQ has been updated.

update #2: The reset is taking longer than expected - the game will be closed until Thursday morning, pacific time. We are being EXTRA careful with the migration since no-one wants the movers to lose a single precious item.

  • "I like my pigs being able to roam in all the garden, & not be constrained to a small plot by pig sticks" - just don't use a pig stick and they'll wander around

  • Bees?  I have a question.  When you said that it will be open in a few hours, is there an exact time *or so*?

  •  Foo Pananafaff  there is no such thing as normal. You're safe.

  • "When you said that it will be open in a few hours, is there an exact time *or so*?" - no exact time yet, sorry

  • I'd like to have a ladder, instead of the steps, to get into bog style house.
(perhaps even a rope to climb up and down on?)
Posted 7 months ago by ~Scilly~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Bees, yeah, but then they can wander inside the house too! (& I don't want them inside the house).
Posted 7 months ago by Errata Stigmata Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I just want it to open so the arguing and complaining can get back to normal, which will take about 30 seconds.

  • All the Guides are taking this time to make pots of coffee and limber up our typing fingers so we'll be ready to answer the multitudes of questions... as soon as we figure out the answers, of course.

  • Here's a new question.  Can other people open our moving boxes, assuming they are in our home (however they got there).  Just curious and wondering. :)

  • Saying something is non-tradable is much less confusing than soul-bound. And yes, this is not World of Warcraft.

  • "I'd like to have a ladder, instead of the steps, to get into bog style house." - yeah, that'll be cool

"but then they can wander inside the house too! (& I don't want them inside the house)." - not sure what you're talking about!

"I'd love to see a firehouse pole or circular stairs" - I KNOW, RIGHT???

  • @ Eye Wonder

    Time/space is an observable phenomena.

  • I think soul-bound sounds cool, but un-tradeable would be functional enough. I don't think it matters if WOW uses that word... I'm sure it's appeared in all sorts of fictional works in the past.

  • Will we receive a Special Collector's Item Broken in the Massive Move of 2012 to commemorate this event?

You know, 'cause something always breaks during a move.

  • I hate to ask for more when you guys have done so much, but my house in Andra was very important to my identity as a Glitch.

Are we going to have the option for something similarly Frank Lloyd Wright-ish / Mid-century stark?

Edit: with a view off the porch and rooftop (jumpable fromable)?
Posted 7 months ago by DUG1138 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If we're talking firemen's poles and ladders - can we have a rope to climb up and down like in the cheap firebog houses?
Since I'm asking, a roof gallery and balcony to jump off would be nice too :)

    p.s. - where's our moustaches?

  • Sorry I wasn't clear Bees!  In the old houses, pigs couldn't wander into the house (at least from my experience in the old cottage style houses & treehouse), but in the new houses, if you aren't using a pig stick, they can wander in all of the garden + into the lower level of the house.
Posted 7 months ago by Errata Stigmata Subscriber! | Permalink
  • So I worked outside all day and got to the library which is the only place I can get my full glitch experience on and now its closed???? *Pout*

*Madly refreshes while doing other things to see if it will come back faster*

I guess I'll go find some flash games to play in the meantime

  • http://www.glitch.com/help/faq/#q62 still has a link to the broken/redirected reality page.

Oh, there's also probably a lot of obsolete information too.  Might just be worth leaving it broken until the whole FAQ is updated (if it's soon).

  • Bees! in response to: animals wandering in house

In the test homes, if you did not have a stick the animals would walk from your backyard into your home.  I frequently found mine ponying up to the bar.

    dl.dropbox.com/u/76676162/G...

@Bees: The pigs stayed on the shelves indefinitely, keeping them separated and easy to nibble. Will this still be able to be done in the new houses?

  • Does that mean butterflys can't come into the house then?   I liked mine fluttering around there.
Posted 7 months ago by Cassandria Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh my yes, fireman's pole, and I did always love the hole in the top floor of my bog house.

Also, I would love to be able to recruit enough of my friends to all take a running leap at the upstairs wall at once and boom! ... the dust cloud dissipates and suddenly we have the makings of a balcony :)

  • "Does that mean butterflys can't come into the house then?" - they wont wander in, but you could let them go inside i guess.

"Will we be able to undo house expansions?" - not in this release (but your size has been reset, so just don't over-expand yet!)
