Nudgery I

Grr. It added 29 percent to my time penalty. Did we really need to make moving things around on our home streets a skill? Is that not more appropriate for a upgrade card?

It just seems like skills should be limited more to larger things that are related to unlocking the ability to do a new activity or craft new things. Simpler, yet useful, stuff like this new functionality seems like it ought to be an upgrade.

Because it will add such a significant chunk to my times I think I might end up not learning it and simply being careful with my cultivation, despite thinking it will be very useful.

  • Those of us who used the arrow keys to move each new item as close as possible to the previous item will find with nudgery that we can't make any changes.

If you weren't that compulsive, you may have room to nudge things closer together.

I tried it with an existing crop garden and discovered that I'd left myself no room to move.

  • Darn. I hoped this would let me cluster things more aesthetically.

So, yeah, I just increased my learning time for not a whole lot of reason. :-P

  • Unlearning to the rescue ;) If necessary.

  • I think the descripion needs to be reworked. "With Nudgery, cultivated items can be moved around to accommodate more stuff" Yes, I know this doesn't say you can move stuff closer together than you could without the skill, but it certainly can be interpreted that way. Like Windborn, I maximized as much as possible, so this new skill does nothing for me. I learned it thinking I would be able to "accomodate more stuff." I didn't actually lose anything here, but it is disappointing.

ETA: With response to the original topic, I guess I'm glad I didn't waste iMG on an upgrade card. To me, that would have been worse than a skill that I can at least unlearn.

  • Hmm. I think I smell some new upgrade cards that maybe let you position (some) cultivated items a bit closer together. I mean I guess it could be some other upgrade cards I smell, they do all sort of smell the same. But I wouldn't unlearn nudgery yet, we're still unlaunched ;)

  • I just tried it out. There is a critical feature that I'd hoped for which is not available.  I have 2 things in my maxed-out back yard which need to swap places.  Using Nudgery, I squeezed everything as tightly together as I could, but what I'd REALLY wanted to do was swap places on 2 of them. But I can't move Thing 1 and leave it in limbo while I move Thing 2 into its place, making room for Thing 1 to drop into place where Thing 2 used to be. No, instead I have to completely move Thing 1 somewhere else (there isn't anywhere else) so Thing 2 can go where Thing 1 used to be, then I can move Thing 1 back to Thing 2's former place.  I would really really really really like the option somehow (Nudgery II?) to stick Thing 1 in a red-X-can't-go-here place temporarily while I move Thing 2 into the spot it used to be in.

ETA: It worked nicely in my front yard which had been expanded but only half-filled: there I could do the move/temp/swap places action because there was spare placement space hanging about unfilled.

  • I might be a minority of one but time... especially time that I don't have to be at keyboard is something that I have a great deal of patience with. Sure I have a time penalty of well over 1,000% but I will learn all the skills... I have yet to even use favor points to decrease the time spent learning... whats the point???

  • @Eleanor Rigby,

Yes, I agree, the ability to swap/temporarily park cultivations would be good.
I was just about to reorganised my backyard (keeping same cultivations but in a different order), had run down several gardens and was trying to finish off a couple of wood trees, when the cultivation costs changed. I decided it was best to leave everything where it was rather than pay the increased costs to re-imagine everything. I would like to be able to just shift the order of things around though.

    @Dr Kelly,

I do generally agree with your approach at the moment and I just tend to wait for things to complete.
However, with the cap on Brain Capacity but the expected arrival of future skills I could reach the point where I've learned something like 150/60 skills and have a 4,000% time penalty. If they then release a new skill that takes a reasonable amount of time to learn, say 14 days at base cost, that would take me a year and half to learn!

  • Remember that spending favor can effectively cut your learning time in half!

  • Only 3/4ths of a year ;)

  • Just before this topic closes I would like to suggest that I would find the skill more valuable if it allowed me to move things from my back yard to my font yard and visa versa.
As I'm sure I'm not the only one that fully upgraded their back yard and now that you get Img for people visiting your front yard, you want to move items to it.
Otherwise it would be nice if we could destroy things the (Like the peat bog that will take forever to die)...
