Treasure Hunts

Have we suggested treasure/scavenger hunts before? I can't remember. Anyway, this was spurred on by the Battle Arena idea. I like the idea of competing for things against other players, but all that fighting doesn't seem very friendly. So how about a Treasure Hunt.

Players sign up in a central location - perhaps the whole thing is run by a Vendor somewhere. Once a bunch of players sign up to the challenge (say a dozen people), then vendor launches the challenge and announces a list of ten things that you need to bring him. For example:

1 Meat Tetrazzini
1 Green Sno-cone
3 Flummery
14 Groddlene
1 cup of water
1 hog-tied piggy
1 Sparkle powder
6 White gas
1 Wavy Gravy
4 Piggie plops

and so on. So long as it's a pretty diverse set of things, it's unlikely any single player would have all the necessary things to hand, so everyone would need to do some hunting.

It doesn't matter how the players get them - they might already have some in their inventory, they can collect them from the streets, buy them in auction, make them themselves or barter with other players. But the first person to return and present the vendor with the appropriate set of things wins.

  • I love treasure hunts. The above idea does sound quite similar to a street project, especially the part about collecting/bringing things to a street vendor. Love the "signing up" part though. At least you're sure that the people signing up are really serious about the activity. Probably what would differentiate this from a street project is the prize you get when you win. Uh, what happens when you do win?

  • Well, street projects are largely collaborative affairs. The idea here is that it's a direct competition with other players, each striving for completion first. There can be only one winner.

Prize? Oh, a piece of a trophy, no-doubt. A bunch of XP. Serious kudos too.

  • don't have to code it into the game.  We could do this now.  Put out notes explaining the contest rules and deadline and who to turn things into.  The contest would be ran by a fellow glitch instead of an npc.  Some of the items could be part of a recipe and the reward could be in part the finished good from making the recipe.  Instead of bring it to someone maybe mail it.  That person would not even have to be online at the time to receive the items by mail.
they could register their team at the start so each items received would be credited to the team.  Mail would make it very clear who got stuff in first.  Could even be runner up teams.
