Pricing for upgrading SDBs

In order to properly decorate, I will have to spend something on the order of 1000 credits to get that to happen.

I've already spent rather a bit on furniture and deco (check my account).

I guess what I am asking for is a method to either buy upgrades (for SDBs ONLY) in bulk? Or an overall tweaking of the SDB upgrade price.

I know you have to make ducats, TS -- truly, I get that.

I'm just personally nutty about getting my house "just right" and the existing SDB upgrades for the number of SDBs I have is prohibitive.

The counter argument of course, is "Crash, seriously, don't have so finger-wagging many."  I get that too.

And eventually, when we're out of beta -- or perhaps next paycheck -- I'll have enough credits to do so.
But you, TS, know, I am sure, that sensation when you're ALMOST to having things as you want them, and then, the well runs dry.  And instead of reflecting on all you've accomplished, you're there, sitting at the screen, thinking "Darn. So darned close."

Anyway, another thing to put in the thinking cap.

Not whining. Just asking for another look.

  • We are considering an SDB-upgrade price drop — we didn't realize people would make THAT many ;)

  • Thanks, Stoot; You'll still get all my monies.

(But seriously -- if you saw all our hoards -- what did you THINK we would do? We want to craft ALL the things! And sometimes we can't make up our minds about what we're going to do when we get into Ur.  So we prepare -- perhaps too much -- for that flexibility.  Stop by my house sometime. It's obnoxious.)

  • I hope an SBD cabinet is waiting in the wings....my walls are getting so full of SBDs that there's hardly room for putting out the awesome wall decorations we can make.

  • What about one price unlocks upgrade "x" ?

The SDB's are so extremely cool .
Saves much space but the best i think is how items look and are easy to grab .
Cubis are the best ,they look so alive ,they move it so great looking way better than a dusty bag :)

  • I'm still on the fence about SDBs.   I had only a few during housing 2 (to hold cubimals) and probably had less mess to deal with when the moving boxes exploded.   I have made a few for new house reset but I still don't fully trust them. They encourage hoarding.  I also think they are rather unattractive.

What's wrong with just stacking bigger bags on a shelf?   It looks nicer than a wall of SDBs.

You can also stack your SBDs if you find, as I do, that they are ugly even after upgrading.

  • GreyGoose: stacking the SDBs would be just as efficient as storing them in a cabinet.  Cabinets can be a bit cumbersome because you can't do a lot of other things when they are opened.

  • @Treesa: I decorate differently, evidently.
Takes all kinds to make a world, as my grandmother used to say.

    Noooooooooooo!

I love the SDBs. Way nicer than bags!

  • Stoot - how about a quantity discount?
Posted 7 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh Treesa no, no, no. I'm glad you like the look of bags but I think it looks messy. Kind of like when I walk in the door and dump my coat and purse on a chair.

Yes my glitch house is much cleaner and more organized than my real house. What?

That being said it would be really nice to buy an upgrade that works for any SDB in your house. Kind of like how wallpaper works. Of course that might be a lot more complicated since SDBs can be sold and traded...

  • My two cents: Plain solid colored (10 credit) SDBs should be free and anything with a more advanced style should cost credits.

  • We could make SDBs untradeable once upgraded? Simply because they are a bit more numerous than other furniture options.

  • I would be willing to pay a higher credit price for access to a pattern that can be used on all furniture of that type across the board, i.e. 1000 credits for this pattern that you can use on all SDBs or whatever.   I mean, I have about 100 SDBs so far, at 10 credits for the average upgrade, I'd rather pay 1000 credits once and get it over with.

It's not just the cost, it's also cumbersome trying to keep track of which item was upgraded to which pattern, too.

  • The problem with a one-time cost for an unlimited number of upgrades is that it invites abuse, since players are able to sell/trade upgraded furniture. If you have to use credits for each upgraded item you sell or trade, that makes abuse much less likely. It doesn't matter that most people are honest. It takes only a few to create a bad situation.

  • One other thought, I know part of the reason I'm using so many SDBs is security - things are safe in SDBs.  There are many items I'd probably leave on shelves or furniture instead of using an SDB if I knew it couldn't walk away.

There are 25 bags on top of that cabinet.   All I have to do is jump up on top and mouse over them to get the one I want.    I only need a few SDBs for organizing and they too are easy enough to stack without having to have a special cabinet to store the SDBs in.

  • +1 for Merth's suggestion.

A price drop would be very nice!

  • I hate bags.  You have to drag them in and out of your inventory bar, you can't see what's inside them, there are only a few colors so you have to name them.

SDBs are drag and drop simple and a huge improvement to inventory management.  I don't think I'll ever go back to bags, gods willing!  :)

  • 25 bags would make my house awfully laggy.  For some reason, things on the floor or on cabinets slows my Glitch down something awful.

It's nice that some people don't have that trouble, but that's no reason to suggest that the rest of us don't need the help we are asking for.  A cabinet for SDBs is a great idea!

  • +1 for a cabinet for SDBs.  There are things I don't want to display, but are very convenient to house in an SDB.  I guess I want an SDB minus the D...

  • Oh well.   As you wish.

  • In trade for a lot of storage, you get a lot of lag. At the moment, that's not a bad deal.

  • Treesa, that looks very nice. Not my personal style though. Plus, as Fleep mentioned you can't quickly see what is in a bag like you can in a SDB.

I think I've found a nice balance though in my house with using SDBs for raw resources and cabinets/ bags in cabinets for the rest. Everyone has their own personal sense of style and that's why the new housing is so fabulous. Style expression galore!

Wait, what were we talking about again? Oh yeah, SDBs and how expensive they are... carry on!
Posted 7 months ago by SkyWaitress Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, either a price drop, or have the price increase BUT you get to use it on ALL your SDBs.

  • I'm all for a price drop in the SDBs. I'd love to get the golden ones for my emblems but at 25 credits a pop that's not going to happen.

  • I love, love, love the SDBs--they are the best organizing/decorating tool ever! And yes, I have so many it'll take me awhile to upgrade them the way I want to, so a price drop would be most welcome.

  • Glad to see many folks feel similarly. I'm sure Stoot will sort it out in an ingenious way.
Posted 7 months ago by CrashTestPilot Subscriber! | Permalink
  • This is good news. I am not even that gung ho with the SDB's and still I must have close to two dozen of them. The cost of changing the style on them is just a bit too prohibitive.

SDBs really area  must for anyone who seriously hordes stuff. I mean do you know how many bags it takes to hold like 40k planks or 10k meat? There are people out there with 100k or more of some resources.

  • I think it's fine as it is in terms of pricing.  And I'm a fairly serious hoarder with an SDB addiction

It would be nice to be able to upgrade in batches, paid or free,  cos it's rather a faff to do it for many items
Posted 7 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Cheaper would be nice, but I agree with the others who've suggested that there be a bulk way to change appearance, maybe for a whole floor at a time.
Posted 7 months ago by Janitch Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I would also pay a lump sum to unlock a reusable pattern for the SDBs.  My brain adds up the price and I pass on them because I don't want to commit myself to future purchases.  A one-time fee is doable because it means infinite uses, thus the more SDBs I make the better a bargain it becomes.  I'm OK with making this soul-bound.

Also love the idea of a storage cabinet for these!
Posted 7 months ago by Mahalla Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Still think that rather than a cabinet to store sdb boxes, just make the cabinets themselves allow you to hold an infinite amount per slot.  People will still pay to upgrade sdb's for those that want to display specific items of pride and joy (lol) but the majority of hoarded items will be fine for me in a deep holed cabinet : ) : )
Posted 7 months ago by ~Arabesque~ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm all for there being account-wide appearance upgrades.  I actually wish those were an option everywhere, but that's probably a different thread.  Perhaps there could be a system that allows an upgrade to revert to basic when the sdb is taken down if it's an account-wide upgrade (so that there's no potential of trying to trade while it's on one), and you can still buy an individual upgrade if you want to sell things.

As much as I don't particularly care to show off my more mundane items to the world, I do dearly love being able to tell exactly where something is.  I loathe having to go from bag to bag wondering where my barnacles are, and in the case of cabinets and infinite slots/holding sdbs, I would just have to go from cabinet to cabinet.  Even when I name things, I end up with so much overlap and whatnot that it gets ridiculous.  Once my house is just so, I'll likely hide the boring stuff on the top floor and call it good.  But even then, I'd want the boxes to go with the decor, and I'd like to be able to choose my decor without having to budget hundreds upon hundreds of currants for the thin line of pixels that keeps my stuff from being in giant lag-making piles.  Or, you know, having it not match.

  • I store all one kind of item in a bag - crystals, urth blocks etc.   But anyway, I'm obviously in the minority and everyone loves SDBs.

Maybe hoarding is not so bad if it keeps auction prices from going crazy?

Are there any SDB styles that are not transparent?  I'd like to just be able to mouse over them to see whats in them (same as I do with bags but the bags are labelled with their contents).
Posted 7 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't notice any different lag from the bags.  Do they create more lag than SDBs?

I usually experience lag on the bog streets but not so much at home.
Posted 7 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I used to store all of one kind in a bag..

Then when I was on my third bag for a single item (I think it was spice that did it for me...) I really realized how bad it'd be to have a bag for every single item..as I ran out of space too quickly.  My floors were a mess..etc.  My old home cabinets couldn't hold it all.

Now with this new house...bags are ugly..I tried to use some i had hanging around empty to decorate with..but they don't match styles at all and stick out like a sore thumb.  Plus where before my spice took up multiple bags..now its all safely nestled inside of a single solitary SDB.  And yeah items on my floor used to produce quite a bit of lag for me...a nasty amount.

  • Seilong has pretty well covered what I would say at this point.  My only difference is that I've found a few spots where I don't mind the bags, but that depends pretty heavily on what color they are.  As an example, I certainly wouldn't mind them in my workshop area because they seem pretty fitting there, but I would be bummed if I had to stash them all over the house again.

I especially agree with the problems of multiple bags for one kind of item.  I'm still coming across bags named things like "Also Milk," "Still Milk," "More Milk," and so on.  I never even bothered trying to bag up the meat -- I have a strong enough computer that it wasn't all that troublesome for me, but many friends weren't able to visit my house because of the absurd loading times and lag it gave them.   The 144 pumpkins that graced my floor (which don't stack at all, I might add) were another troublesome spot.  I won't even start on the filled firefly jars.

Also, there are a good number of items I like to keep on hand that I don't have dozens of stacks of.  Having a bag for those with only two slots or so filled seems excessive, and combining them leaves me with vaguely named bags where I can't find things.
Posted 7 months ago by Magic Monkey Subscriber! | Permalink
  • "I can't find things": sounds like we need search extended to the house/SDBs/cabinets.

Maybe TS could go the Google route and give us the infinite size moving boxes back and we just use search to find everything.

  • +++ Eleventy billion PLUS to being able to search our house and yards!

I have noticed that often, when I put a bag down in front of a machine, the bag scurries under the machine and hides like a shy cat. My elemental pouch did this and I bought another one before I noticed the edge of the original peeking out at me.

Oh, to be able to search!

  • My solution to less-than pretty SDBs is to hide them behind a statue or a cabinet. You can still drop items in without moving the camouflaging furniture.
