Movement skill quests and lag

At the moment, if feels as if standalone quests that rely upon standard "platform game" skills -- particularly accurate jumping -- are a crapshoot depending upon server responsiveness, because you can't judge your position and that of any in-game elements with any real-time certainty. Since many of those quests (Rook's Egg, for instance) can be fairly hazardous to energy and mood, it's pretty annoying to be lagged to death by them, so I'm basically avoiding them right now, and it makes me unsure whether they'll work well in the final game. Perhaps it might be better to make those standalones more puzzle-like and less Mario/Sonic?

  • I agree, the Rook's Egg quest has frustrated me immensely. My first go, I couldn't get past the first crusher despite a dozen or so attempts due to jerkyness and laggitude. My next session I finally passed it, only to be similarly thwarted by the next crushers before completely giving up on the quest.
Also, we should have a skill that allows you to name objects besides animals, as I would like to name crushers Beverly and Wesley.

  • I also agree. I have been unable to complete the Rook's egg quest for this reason (plus I admit, crap skills!) But it is enormously frustrating to get past one or two hazards only to freeze or lag at another critical point.
I love Thrillho's names for the beastly things, just what they look like! (With apologies to any Beverly and Wesleys out there!)

  • "are a crapshoot depending upon server responsiveness"

to clarify .. the issues here are not server based but client based graphical performance issues.

not that this addresses the very real problems here.

  • Striatic, stupid question but I want to make sure I understand- you mean I had lag on the rook egg quest because my computer couldn't handle the graphics?

I'm not surprised with that (I'm on a pretty old machine) but I wonder why that part is so much worse than anywhere else in the game? It doesn't seem that graphically intensive, and there is only one player on screen at a time.

(as you can see I'm not a programmer ;))

  • I'm not so certain this is a client-based issue. I'm using a MBP with a 2.66 GHz i7 and 8 GB of RAM, and I had the same laggy issues as above.

Granted, I didn't think to check Activity Monitor to see how much of my CPU / memory was being used by Glitch, but much more complex games run flawlessly.
