Jono mentioned in chat a couple of hours ago that there will be a test week. He couldn't say when or for how long or if would be the final, FINAL test before launch though.
So basically, this test was meant to last longer than 2 days. But stuff was messed up in some fashion, so they are shutting down to try to get it fixed. THEN we'll have the "last" test?
LOL - I got a house as a place holder until I can afford the 30,000c "mansion" I want. I'm hoping they decide to open mansions in the Chakra Phool area... :-D
Hm the whole thing is very confusing! Why have the reset only to have us back to testing again so much? I was under the impression this test was to give beta testers a head start (which I still don't know if I 100% agree with, but still took the opportunity to advance lol) but I guess there are things that still need to be tested.
@Laurali: I think of the head start as a benefit for the players who come in after the game opens. For me, it was a strange world on Tuesday where most animals had no names and the trees were smaller. Everyone seemed to be clustered in the same areas. With our head start new players will be able to interact with players at higher levels (us) and the world will seem more lived-in for them.
I don't know about the animals with no names bit. Hit a street where a pig, a butterfly, and a chicken were all named "cock"... all in the same part of the street. I'll fix them later when I can :)
@BarryW: Yeah the economy really seemed to grind to a halt because everyone was at the same level and doing the same things. Food was insanely expensive, presumably because everyone was mining and didn't readily have access to edibles. There was an over-supply of raw mining-stuffs, just as I expected - if you could smelt and buy metal rocks at the price they were going for there were sweet arbitrage opportunities to be had. Fortunately, I was able to cash in on the huge under-supply of milk rather nicely :D
@Fokian Fool: My favourite was when I only just started playing and found a whole group of chickens named after Game of Thrones characters. That made me feel like awesome people were playing the game.
yeah, 'cos part of the charm is that social environment, which was present when i started playing, but absent in the post-reset chaos.
coming in brandy-new everything is a lot nicer if there are established players. it is friendlier, and when you're just starting the other players are a lot like furniture. they move and talk but it's hard to sort things out and i don't know about you, but i learned a LOT about how to move in the game by watching other players and i think at opening they mean for us to be that moving "furniture".
...I'm not the only one who thought this was supposed to be the last test, am I? Sometimes I make stuff up in my head and think the idea came from outside of my head, soooo
Fokian, it wasn't me, but I think I know who did it, lmao. AND THERE'S NOTHING TO FIX! Though I know before reset someone named a chicken "Cerulean's Cock," lmao, which I admit is pushing it a little. BUT THERE'S NO PROBLEM WITH LABELING CHICKENS A DIFFERENT GENDER. xD
I thought it wasn't the last test, it was the last reset. And that is where the advantage is. from this test onwards everything is for keeps. They will most likely have a few tests, as some bugs are found and sorted, and then need retesting
I too was under the impression that this test that just ended was planned to be the length that is was, but was planned to be the last one before going live.
If someone can point out where it is/was written 'this is the last TEST' and not 'the last RESET'.... Because either you're misread the post, and it was meant to be the last test. Or I misread the post the dev's wrote about 'last reset'....
@SlimeNose: This was the last reset and it was PLANNED to be the last test too. It was mentioned in the forums somewhere, but I don't have the link. I just know I'm right because I heard it directly from the devs in-game during the last test before reset.
This is basically what we were told: Reset -> Test -> some measure of time w/o tests -> Launch
I'm assuming because of the new stuff they added for us this test, they realized they needed a bit more beta-ing to be done to work out all the new bugs
I feel like I'm the only person not surprised that there will be at least one more test before we go live. Remember what happened this past Monday? Another round of testing after some more dev time should be expected.
hmmm, even after reading the history of @playglitch and @isglitchopen I can not see where they say that there would only be one test. They said "...closed as we reset for the last time." and "Another test next week" and "soon, open forever" NONE of which implies that there would only be one test before the game goes live, and we become players not beta-testers
And maybe they saw how clueless we beta testers were with out tele, remote feeding and gathering machines, the ability to make awesome stew - so the decided we needed a slightly bigger break. Just a personal note - I seemed to spend most of my time trying to feed my Glitch who has the metabolism of a butterfly and a hole in her stomach. Oh and she needed a fair about of drinks too! Milking butterflies - I forgot how hard it was to massage the little buggers. :)
I know a lot of us got confused (yep, me too) thinking this was the last test before launch. Oh well, live and learn! But on the whole thing of why the headstart, BarryW expressed it well that it is to the benefit of those coming in as we'll be more spread out and not all after the same things, etc. Also to consider: If you were new and noticed your greeter was level one...or your Live Help guide...you might wonder why or think they didn't know what they were talking about (though probably most newbs wouldn't notice and yeah sometimes we don't know what we're talking about ;)). But even more than that: It might have been difficult to convince some of the greeters (Wha? Who? Me? Naaawwww) to be available to greet right away when we wanted to get our game rolling. Lots of long-time and competitive players are also greeters (*whistles*). Um, yeah. Just saying...*wanders off to plot next attack*
Rascal: yeah I guess from a Greeting point of view that makes a lot of sense to get the headstart, and I know it would create a ruckus if only greeters got in early!
@Slimenose: In that past Stoot mentioned that the reset would likely occur 2-3 days before the reset, but possibly could take a week, and never gave a definitive answer about it. I think thats where a lot of the ideas about reset coming directly before launch came from
From Glitch's facebook "The test has come to a close. Newly named piggies are sleeping in their pens, and butterflies wonder when they'll be massaged again. Their wings won't ache for long. There is another, and it will open Monday."
Easier to be helpful to newbies when we've successfully just gone thru the first stages ourselves and come out the other side in a more comfortable place, with a bit more patience to deal with others.
Kevbob's Test Notes: 20 September post starts with the words, "This is it! You've been reset, and get to explore the world as new, one last time." Obviously the "one last time" refers to the last time we start as level 1 newbs, but for some reason when I read it I took it to mean this was going to be one last test. Perhaps others made the same mistake.
+1 to Rascalmom - I was waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy too busy racing around, leveling like mad (curse you, tiny energy tank!) and accomplishing my prioritized goals (what? You don't have a relational database? Spreadsheet? Not even a list on the back of an envelope?) to pay much attention to anyone else, let alone greet new players.
I was so pooped out with red line energy level, I couldn't even think for myself let alone some spanking brand new player. Poor buggers would be petting chickens and massaging pigs while trying to eat vapor from a gas tree. Oh yeah allow me to give you a helping hand, I will show you how to scrap a sparkly. LOL
jasbo, and xoxJulie, just a spreadsheet? pshaw, I have an entire notebook categorized by topic with both typed and handwritten things, including, yes a section titled "Plan of Attack," which worked pretty well, I'd say. Before you all jump on me for being a competitive lunatic, let me just say this: 1. Yes, I am. and 2. That sort of thing sounds boring to some I know, but trust me when I tell you that I have a BALL not only following my notes and plans but writing them and planning them, too. Yup :) Okay, but I try to help people a lot, too, to mitigate the competitive lunatic side of myself. Balance, grasshopper, balance.
I have an achievements spreadsheet half finished. I couldn't get it completely finished before test because TEST OPENED and I needed to play. But I am working on it a bit tonight and hopefully finishing it tomorrow morning.
I don't work from a competitive angle, but a completist one. In fact, I was surprised to find myself on the leader boards, but not surprised that it was for such a completist reason.
There is already a gigantic table of Achievements available on the wiki. Several of the pages could use some updating if any hardcore achievement folks want to help everyone else out. ;-)
xoxJulie, some people don't sleep! :O With only sixty levels possible in the game now, it might be more fun to make things last a bit longer, though.
THIS is the reason that we thought that we'd see the game launch within a week or so after the reset... but personally, I'm happy to wait a bit, if it means that Glitch will be at its shiniest, happiest best when the big moment arrives.
