Definitely not from an alternate dimension. Not even sure how that would work. Alternative dimension maybe, or perhaps a parallel dimension where everyone is happily playing Glitch without interruptions.
-
Haha! Mean, but funny, joke!!
-
Are you saying my grammar are bad, Dura? ;P
Edited: Ah, there was nothing wrong with how I wrote that, according to Wikipedia:
alternate universe (plural alternate universes) (physics, cosmology) A hypothetical world situated in a different dimension of space and time than the real world consisting of the universe known and experienced by human beings. [quotations ▼] (literature, narratology) An imaginary realm, often a variant form of the real world, depicting a different way events could have unfolded or the universe could have functioned. [quotations ▼]

I wouldn't dream of saying anything bad about your grammar moonie! :)
-
see above... ok, yes, that's alternate "universe", but others have also used alternate "dimension"
Example: www.abovetopsecret.com/foru...

Thank Goodness!

I don't think I can wait much more longer to play glitch!!

*twitches* Must. Have. Glitch. Fix.

@Shepherdmoon it's not the use of dimension that or universe that is wrong. it's the use of alternate instead of alternative.
-
Both are used to mean the same thing, from what I saw when I did a google search.
-
Alternate means occurring or succeeding by turns while alternative means offering or expressing a choice.
-
OK--maybe you should write Wikipedia and tell them they were wrong :)
-
I like to think when the game is closed , we all get sucked up back insides the giants imagination till they sneeze us all out again for the opening :D that's why i carry this over sized feather with me ::tickle tickles::
-
@Shepherdmoon, no need, the Oxford English Dictionary will put you right every time.
-
Lol Wikipedia is wrong a lot. Because people are wrong a lot and it's written by half of the world's population. :P

@playglitch Glitch, the game OK! You can save your refresh finger for at least the next 18 hours: next test opens tomorrow (Thursday afternoon, Pacific time).
Posted (according to Twitter) 19 hours ago. :)

they said "at least" :)
-
Which finger is your "refresh" finger?

@Shepherdmoon; @Dura
Relevant entries from the OED online:
Alternation is "a. The action or an instance of two things succeeding each other by turn; alternate succession or occurrence."
Alternative
1. Characterized by alternation; alternating, alternate.
2a. Of a statement, question, or proposition: consisting of statements separated by or; that expresses or offers one of two or more things; disjunctive.
I searched the British National Corpus for both terms, which threw up exactly four instances each. Searching the American Contemporary Corpus (http://corpus.byu.edu/coca/) gives 29 uses of "alternative.." and 68 of "alternate" (which is not really a big enough difference to make a definite statement of what is more popular IRL.
It might be of interest to note Google's response to searching "Alternative Universe", which suggests "Alternate universe" ;)
That said, "Alternative universe" still has over a million hits, making up roughly 1/4 of the combined "alternate"/"alternative" hits.
From this I would say that "Alternative Universe" is more 'correct', though "Alternate Universe" is more frequently used. I guess it's probably because it's slightly shorter, punchier and sounds a little cooler (if you don't think about the meaning too much like I obviously did).

Obviously the length and research time taken into my previous post is owed to the fact that Glitch is still offline ;)
-
Thanks for looking that up Captain! Although, our fixation on the semantics here seems to provide only more proof that we really need the game to be open now!
-
And... stop reading this because it's open!

@Captain Mouldy
Why, I thank you for taking the time to confirm what I already knew, i.e. alternate and alternative are completely different words with completely different meanings and are not interchangeable (unless you are illiterate).
-
Oh it's online! Ha, best time-kill EVER. And NP shep, I love doing this sort of thing
-
Oh, it's open. So who cares about that stuff anyway!
-
@Dura - sorry, didn't mean to be patronising - it's a habit, when I look at usage like this, it's good practice to try to be absolutely crystal clear as to what I'm looking at, so laying out the dictionary definition is always a good starting point. The rest was corpus stuff, not looking at what is/isn't interchangeable, but what people actually use.
