Questions for Newer Players about Skills via the UI

With new skills to learn, I'm finally starting to use the menus and I guess I'm a little confused.
Within the game, the UI includes two options to access information about Skills... one via the Player Menu (under the avatar drop down) and another via the iMG button.

The option via the Player Menu opens the Skills page in a new tab/window. Having only the two skills to look at I'm not sure I understand the full functionality provided by the option under the iMG button and was hoping some of our newer players can provide insight.

When I open the iMG skills option, I see a count down of my time remaining (inside half an over-sized grey cloud) as well as the other skill I can learn. For those with multiple skills left to learn: does it show all your remaining skills? If you've paused a skill, does it show the progress on the paused skill? Can you change skills via the iMG skill menu? If so, does it give you a loud warning about losing super-speed-learning by pausing? Does clicking on one of the listes skills switch to learning that skill or does it bring up information (I'm afraid to try it in case it switches em on me).

I guess I'm trying to understand what the two different options within the UI do, because they do appear to provide a slightly different function.

  • I can answer this and I'm a newer player, so here goes....

It shows all the skills you can currently learn next.
It doesn't show the progress of a paused skill nor indicate which one is paused as far as I can tell; it just shows how much time each skill would take you to learn.
You can change skills from the iMG skill menu.
If you pause, it gives no warning that I recall, certainly nothing that made a suitable impression on me.... I did this, I am not pleased about it, but I'm kind of stuck with it until I'm ready to go back and learn that, which won't be for a bit.
Clicking does not switch to it, but pulls up info. Then you have to select the skill to learn.

I think of it as the in-game one does a little less, but doesn't require a new tab. The other one also lets you see what skills lead to which other skills, which can be useful for making a selection.

  • Fantastic Larch! I'm sorry to hear the pause caught you out, I'll be sure to warn new players about it going forward. I'll drop some yellow essence by soon-ish, get you a little further down the road to learning that paused skill.

  • Oh, I forgot I could eat yellow crumb flowers for benefits. The real problem is I started a skill I didn't really want yet and didn't notice immediately. Possibly I should unlearn the partial learning for a speed boost. I do want the skill eventually. I should check how long it'd take me to unlearn the partial amount, probably not long.

It's really okay - I am making very good progress on skill acquisition, I think, for being so new. I just only recently realized that my partial learning was costing me time. But I'm going to be very busy this Monday through Wednesday anyway, so it'll give me some time to get even more skills while not playing much. And when I do play, I save up imagination for brain expansions, so it works out either way.

Also, I just figured out what tincturing does, so I'm going to learn that later today and have it for tomorrow. I have lots of hooch (I overflow with it and have to auction it just to make space) and I grow lots of herbs. So, soon I'll be able to really boost my ability to learn and gain imagination.

I pretty much expect to make various mistakes when new to anything. I've been playing for less than a month so far though, and I think I'm making good progress. It doesn't really bother me if I do various things that in retrospect were bad ideas. I've done a few things I wish I hadn't, but I still make a lot of overall progress. I can't expect to figure out everything immediately or play perfectly.
