The pink bag fiasco

Someone stole a pink bag from the door of 401 Boan Stravenue Lofts this afternoon. It belongs to THE PUFFS and we will not rest until we find it.

If you have the bag and you bring it back (with all the notes intact) you get a reward of 10k.

If you have any information on who stole the bag, you get a 500 c reward.

XOXO

  • How is it stealing if the item is left on a street where anyone can travel?

I get how you want your quest to work, but perhaps finding a way to manage your quest in-game so that a passer-by cannot just take something vital to your mission might be best for all.

Calling other players thieves when this may have been an honest mistake seems a bit off-putting.  Many times, there are lots of freebies left on the ground for anyone to pick up.  It's pretty likely that instead of being stolen, it was just picked up by an innocent bystander.

But even if it weren't, you'll have less headaches by not leaving things on a public street that you do not want to be picked up by just anyone.

  • It was placed in an apartment building in front of Yaya's door. It was full of notes that with think explained themselves clearly enough, we a gnome hovering overhead blurting things every 5 seconds.

I do see your point, though. We would just very much like it back since it is - or was - an essential part of the initiation ceremnoy :)

  • NEW HINT: I was informed that by the time the pink bag fiasco occurred there was a project going on in Alakol that demanded hundreds of notes.

I was also informed that the person who took it knew we had placed a bunch of notes through the new streets chat. And he went to collect them.

  • The thief has been identified.. he is SELLING the notes in the auctions for 500 currants a pop!

He didnt even take the notes to contribute on the projects but to SELL them.
    WE SHALL STRIKE.

  • Well, since you can't seem to figure out how the game works-

    A) The notes on auction under my name were created by me. Check the author tag.
    B) I've never been to the street nor the apartment building. Have a dated screenshot.

    C) It was rude of you to assume that a player listing notes due to a current project stole your specific bag of notes. I enjoy making currants in a pinch, and if people are willing to pay that's fine. If not, it's not much of my stash and I'm not worried.
    D) There have been other people selling notes during the current need for them. I don't have a name (they were gone when I checked again) but they were listed two hours before mine were, a lot closer to the time you made your original post.

If you want confirmation that I've never been to the location where you're accusing me of stealing your notes, bug a dev until they give in and check my account. Until then, stop trying to stir stuff up without even a basic understanding of common courtesy. It's boring and quite immature.

  • Calm down, I wrote this reply before I talked to you in game.

I am sorry, I didn't even accuse you here.

  • I'm not sure you know it Yaya, buy "XOXO" means "hugs & kisses". Lol, by the tone of the post, I'm guessing thats not what you meant? i got a giggle over that.

  • This entire thread is lame. You left something on the street and it's now gone. Get over it.

  • I feel this plays to close to life.
When I was a kid, I used to be able to leave my bike by my front door, even on the front yard. As I got older, we had to bring everything inside, because people that didn't live anywhere close were cruising our streets for anything left outside. Somehow this was fair game. Then homes were being broken into, to take even more stuff.
I think if we didn't have the house privacy in Glitch, some people would be coming in and taking from your home.
The phrase 'common sense' seems to be used freely in this game without feeling.
I understand that things are just things, but someone spent time and energy to obtain that item and leave it there and create a note to anyone passing by to leave it there. (or what have you)
Granted, I understand that mailboxes are "hopefully" in development, we are in testing phase - and nothing will be permanent.

  • phoebe springback, we do know what XOXO means :) It's the signature of the PUFFS. the whole thing is a little bit tongue in cheek; I hope you all realize that.

  • @Cupcake, yes I did read as humor, I got a kick out of it. Having your things pinched is very annoying, especially when it means you have to change the way you're doing the quest, but Yaya took it in stride and did it with good humor. But I seem to remember her saying English was her third language, and I have internet friends who have trouble with quirky American slang. The idea of the group is cute..I wondered at first if PUFFS refered to the Puff Girls. (and I got a laugh out of the "special requirement" for joining the group.) :-D

  • I'm sorry to hear this. I hope you find your stuff.
But, as what the other Glitches have been saying, when you leave something on the street people are likely to think that it was left there as a little "freebie" for anyone who passes by and pick it up. Next time, put it in your closet.

  • BTW what are notes exactly? What are they for? What are projects and how do I contribute to them? How do I help building new streets?
Posted 19 months ago by Truffles Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Truffles, Notes are something you can scribble on paper (you get paper from paper trees). As for usage here is the post about some usage of notes. http://beta.glitch.com/forum/general/3563/

Here is a post about projects: http://beta.glitch.com/forum/general/3378/

  • @truffles the bag was not left on a street. It was left in the third floor of Boan Stravenue Lofts in front of my door, guarded by a gnome giving instructions. So no, it wasn't accidental.

@Phoebs yeah, english is my third language, but my uncanny proficiency at slang gives me tons of street cred.

  • I wonder if the Group Halls Stoot mentions in this thread may be the needed extra security?  If Group Halls are "invite" only... then your project could work quite nicely I would think.

  • Slightly related:
Whenever I have a need to leave a bag in a public space, I like to rename it "CURSED BAG" to see if that has any effect.

  • Lord Bacon-o if I saw a bag in glitch labled "cursed bag" I'd totally pick it up to see what happens! :)

I actually think that it would be a great sandbox feature in Glitch to have a way for players (or groups) to make their own official quests that they assign to others. They could mark certain items (including bags) as quest items and then only players to whom the quest has been assigned can pick them up. Player quests would have a timeout period so you don't have the items littering the streets forever.

  • I had an idea that might be a soluton for such events
Posted 19 months ago by Faereluth Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @pirateapples yes! We are waiting for group halls to be available! We need one like crazy. Having my apartment as HQ is a drag because the other PUFFS cant come in when i am offline. Also, keg parties are not the same if you are solo.
Posted 19 months ago by Yaya Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @faereluth even if we get group halls your idea would be necessary for users who want to develop quests. If you want a quest to be fun, you need to make people go to several different areas looking for items, and you need a way to make sure the items will be there when they arrive
