Glitch Home Invasion

I just let a fellow glitch in my home in an effort to be friendly, but then he stole my meat collector. Is there any recourse or is it on me because i let him in

  • Really, there is not.

Reminder to all: Like your real home, don't let folks in your house unless you trust them.

  • What Quinton said. I think unless you absolutely trust someone, you shouldn't bring them into your house. Also, when you get your Homesteader badge, it does say "beware of couch surfers...", should also count as beware of freeloaders.

  • I don't let people in my home unless I know them, but it annoys me to end that if a stranger knocks on my door, I have no way to interact with them.  Their name is plain text, so I don't have an option to IM them and ask what they want, nor can I block them when they try to enter 4 times in a row.  The current system for letting people into houses is broken, and I think we need the ability to white-list and black-list people.

  • @Pazza I've accidentally knocked on people's doors in my block because I misclicked while going after a chicken or a butterfly, thankfully, no one was home. That would be annoying though if someone keeps knocking on your door while you're online. I think it would be nice to be able to say who on your friends list can have access to your home and who can't, like you said. It would most certainly be convenient.

  • Even if they'd cap the knocks it'd be nice. As in after being refused entry twice you can't knock on that door again that game day

  • If someone is aggressively knocking on your door (or you've been the victim of pesky neighbors pulling a ding dong ditch), blocking them will prevent them from knocking again. But unfortunately, you ultimately have to be wary of who you let into your home.

  • I guess setting up a Gnome on the doorstep with a greeting is sort of like having an answering machine that can't take messages... at least you could say "Howdy, let me know in IM why you're knocking" or similar.

  • Just like real life, if someone knocks on the door, perhaps you should step outside to talk to them instead of letting them inside.

  • Trouble with WalruZ is that you might be on the other side of Ur.

  • @blanky Unfortunately, there is no easy way to block them.  If their name is easy to remember, you can go to your friends page, search for their name, get their info page, and block them that way, but this is a multi-step process which doesn't do much good if you are in the thick of things (e.g. trying to use a buff before it wears off), and if they have a long name that you can't remember exactly, you can't really do it afterwards either.  The same goes if instead of blocking, you want to report.  Or if you just want to ask them why they want to come in.

When the popup that says "Soandso is knocking at your door", you should be able to click on their name as if they had spoken in chat and select the usual glitch interaction menu.  In fact, all notifications of other player actions should have this.  There is no point in telling me someone else is doing something if I can't easily respond to it.

  • You are right, it would be nice if you could click on their name to IM them to find out what they want when a stranger knocks. I think WalruZ has a good idea, if you are home you could step outside to talk to them.

  • I like to TP back to my doorstep and meet them. "What do you want?! I was in the shower!"

  • I must admit, sometimes I will speed squeeze chickens (get close and press the enter key really fast) in a neighborhood and accidentally knock on somebodies door. I know it's annoying and I feel bad about it.... just not bad enough to bother with finding them in the search function to add them to my buddy list so i can IM them "sorry about knocking, didn't mean to" just to then remove them from my buddy list cause I don't actually know them at all.

We needs an IM function for non-buddy list people!

  • I made a suggestion in this thread of the Ideas Forums: www.glitch.com/forum/ideas/...
Seems this is becoming a growing problem and this was my suggestion to TS:

Possibly another idea that could be submitted is being able to set "permissions" for someone to be able to pick up or remove things in the houses. I play Everquest 2 and that game does have an ability to do that. We can set our houses up as public visiting only, friend, or trustee. Public visiting only allows just that.. to visit and to click on things to see the name and description of the item(s) but you cannot move or interact with them other than the sales boxes (you can buy from them). Friend status,  the person can interact with some things but cannot take or move anything, and trustee allows you to do anything the owner can do other than take heirloom items (those only you or alts on the same account can take out of the house but can be moved around the house) and no trade items (they can be moved throughout the house but not taken out of the house). We can also set up our houses to receive no visitors at all.

What would be nice is to set someone to "friend" status that will allow them to harvest, pet, water, etc but NOT take anything out of the house other than the harvests of meat, grain, milk, and stuff off the trees. I think if we had that we would have a bit more control of our houses and let us relax in our housing communities.

You're 3 regions away and somebody you don't know knocks on your door.   why would you let them in?
