New Quest Popups - Annoying

Okay, so I thought I'd be able to put up with this, but after awhile, it gets really annoying. So you know how when you log in, a popup comes up alerting you of a new quest that you haven't accepted yet? And how if you have more than one, when you close it, another popup comes up for another quest? Well, ever since the new quests, I've been inundated with these popups (about sixteen of them, to be precise) every single time I log in. And considering I often have to reload due to connection and lag issues, these popups are becoming a real nuisance. Is there any reason why there can't be just one popup, that allows you to scroll through all your available quests, and, if closed, wouldn't show any more old "new" quest popups until you log back in? I threw together this mockup to illustrate one possible way to accomplish this:

  • Neither. I guess I should speak for myself, but nobody likes being inundated with popups. Especially the risqué sort you get when visiting some sites of... questionable... intention. Is Glitch one of those sites? <- There's your perfectly executed snark. ;-)

  • I, also, am very mad about all new quests. Please remove them so I can continue not clicking on my screen.  <-

  • Sprockett, having one window to scroll through might possibly be quicker and easier for people than the current system.  It's a little thing but little things all contribute to the feel of the game, and this forum to my knowledge isn't just about a certain type of idea! :)

  • Justin, if you accept the quests, then they will sit quietly in your quest log until you complete them. No more messy pop-ups :)

  • The point is, they added a whole bunch of quests all at once, so he's not getting them one by one as would normally happen when he meets the prerequisites organically through gameplay (as we all did in the early levels).  That wouln't happen once the game goes out of beta, or if he just accepted them into his (scrolling-windowed) quest log.  Let's celebrate the devs for continuing to flesh out the game where it counts!  Unless I'im just blatantly missing something.

  • I think Millie hit it.  I was slightly annoyed by all those pop ups at first, but they don't come up every time I log on.  That WOULD be annoying.  Just accept them, then choose to ignore them at will.

  • Since "accept all the quests now" seems to be consensus on how some people solve this, I think I may wish to elaborate on why one may wish not to do that. Call me a little OCD (actually, a member of a group I chat frequently in already has), but if I see all those started quests in my quest log, it would pressure me immensely to finish them, even though I'd ordinarily rather not at that moment. Plus, it would distract me from focusing on any given one of them. Since I started all of them, which one do I finish first? So I'd rather accept them one by one, as I plan to actually complete them. Yes, it's a really minor thing, and barely affects anyone, but from various things I've seen (whether from reading a review that included pictures of the TS offices, and noticing that they're all using Macs, or from Jade's plastering "" in Live Help once every few days, or even down to the VAG Rundschrift font used in much of the game, which is also used on Apple's keyboards), TS really has a thing for Apple, and Apple really had a thing for minor details. Apple would never allow a user to be inundated with popups every time they log in, and I'm sure it's just an oversight on the part of TS as well, that they'll correct once they get the opportunity... at least I hope they will.

  • Personally, I want some kind of prompt letting me know that I have a new available quest the first time I log in. I will agree that immediately after the backlog of skill quests were released it was a tad overwhelming, but the main use case ("I just finished learning a new skill and now there's a new quest") is rare and exciting enough to me that it merits interruption.

Different players have different play styles; you find it annoying, I find it great!

  • You'd still get the popups. However, you'd just get one. It'd allow you to scroll through your quest backlog, and still get through all of them. Just in a less annoying fashion.

  • So how is having to dismiss a popup every time you reload the game less hassle than never seeing them unless you go looking for them?

In either case, you've got a list of quests you haven't finished.  Except one is in your face every time you load the game.

  • WindBorn  - can you clarify your question? Sorry if I'm being slow, but I can't tell if it's directed at me or JustinDaigle or another comment entirely.
