What do you have in your back yard?

I am interested to know what other players do with their back yards. Can you tell us what you have put in your back yard and why you chose it?

When I first got my back yard I put a lot of things that I thought I would need like a variety of trees, rocks, jellisacs, etc. After a while I realized that it was much easier and more efficient to get almost everything I needed from the routes. However I noticed that it was very difficult to find crops and herbs. The gardens always seemed to be the least reliable resource on the routes, by far. So I removed all my original stuff and now I have my back yard filled with garden plots. This works really well for me.

(Another consideration is that garden restoration does not require any exotic material.)

What is working for you in your back yard?

  • I'm going to write a combination of truth, and fiction.  We are going to pretend my backyard is finished.  That I've gotten enough wine to move things, and expanded it enough, and I've spent the img (and credits to change the style).

My backyard is mostly things I don't want to have to hit a rout to reach, and things I want for myself.

All three crop gardens, All three herb gardens.

As I have a personal "machine shop" on the 2nd floor I am thinking about using the free space and or swapping the smallest of each herb/garden for fuel supplies.

  • ICountFrom0 - You do know you can have more than one of each size?

I have 2 large herb gardens and 2 large crop gardens.

  • 11 random glitchen bound and tied to note poles... oh, I mean... 6 large herb gardens, that's all, I swear.

  • Two large herb gardens, a bean tree, an eggplant, three butterflies and the same three chickens and four piggies I had at my old house in Estevan Meadow. There's room for more resources, but I like a bit of space!

  • Large herb garden, large crop garden, the rest is trees to grow and kill at will for badges.

  • I have lots of herb gardens, a cherry tree, and two barnacle pods :) The pods are supposed to help me work on wearing one cultivated item out a bunch of times for a badge, but I'm not sure how well that's gonna work out... xD

The tree is to feed my piggies a little extra when I can remember to interact with it. (They seem to hate eating when I'm not around. Fickle little porkers.)

And finally, the plots are to make me money :P Full harvests of herbs are worth a large amount of cash. While it's not really possible to exploit that actively in any significant way since they have very long grow times, they do provide an excellent passive gain :)

I've been spending a lot of time looking at active versus passive ways to make money in the game, since I find myself unwilling or unable to put in as much time to earn as much money as I used to :) So that's those decisions!

  • Currently, my backyard has 2 large herb gardens, 1 large crop garden, four trees, a jellisac mound, my stills, and some animals.

I think, now that we're no longer in the "resource grab" phase that initially came with the housing switch, it would be cool if we had some yard furniture to mix in with the cultivating.  You know... patio chairs, fountains, grand statues - and I would love a storage shed!

  • I have:

2 large herb gardens. I make a fair number of tinctures, both for restoring rocks and for my own use. They were extra-handy during the Time of Epic Mood Loss, when I was munching Rookswort like a crazyperson. And other than a short stint in the bogs in Beta-the-First, I’ve never really had a chance to grow herbs, so I still revel in it. Kinda like my mum still hoards stuff, having spent her early childhood experiencing the privations of WWII. Except her experience was, of course, much more serious. (As a further aside, when I helped her move a few years ago, I found shopping lists she’d made in the 1970s. Her reasoning? “I like shopping lists.” That woman keeps everything.)

A large crop garden, which is more for sporadic use rather than a specific purpose. I usually grow ingredients for awesome stew or tasty pasta.

A gas plant, which is there mainly for my 7 piggies to nibble. I keep the piggses for a small supply of meat (I have 3 collectors); each one gets petted daily.

2 barnacle pods. Because, well, barnacles. I thought about getting rid of one after I’d expanded my house, but we are now in the Time of Towering Anticipation, and I’m glad to have 2.

A peat bog. Primarily for fuelmaking purposes.

A jellisac mound. One can never have too many jellisacs when one has to slave over a hot wood machine that needs constant refuelling. As it were.

My machines are all just inside the back door, with my tincturing area just beyond, all within easy reach of my garden resources.

  • I have 3 (soon to be 4) large herb gardens, for tincture making and for selling. A jellisac mound, peat bog and gas tree for fuel cells and a few pigs.

  • I decided to keep only a small amount of stuff in my backyard for my personal use. So I have:
    ~ 1 large herb garden
    ~ 1 large crop garden
~ a very small number of animals (no more than 6 of anything)
~ An empty space that I call "Resource du Jour". I put something there that I currently want to build up a supply of, harvest the heck out of it, then remove it when it is done.

For anything else I require, I go to the world or the resource routes.

  • I have a large herb garden, a barnacle pod, a jellisac mound, and some empty patches.  I've found that I don't actually need anything, since street projects are gone and I'm out of in-game goals, so my choices are a bit random.  My machines are in the yard, too.  There's nothing in my front yard.

  • I have two large herb gardens, one large crop garden, 3 gas plants, a sparkly, and a beryl (it was an accident, so I'm going to use it up and replace it with a duillite or metal rock).

I love growing flowers and gardening, so that's why I went with large. I don't need as many crops as I do herbs. I wanted more spice than any other tree, so I put my grove of spice trees out front and put the few gas trees I'd like in the back. It's also nice to be able to tap into a couple of rocks when I need to. If I want to do real mining, I go out to Ilmenskie or Pollokoo.

Between both yards, I think I have a little of everything, that way when I am just a few shy of something that I'm doing at home, I don't have to go far.

  • I have a large herb garden (just upgraded from medium), a large crop garden, one tree each of spice, bean, gas, and egg, a firefly mound, two butterflies, two chickens, and a piggy to make crop seeds. Like Mollie, I have a bit of lovely undeveloped space, as well.

  • 2 large herb gardens, 2 large crop gardens, a gas plant, a spice plant, a wood tree (only until I get the last wood tree petting/watering badge, then it will be another spice plant...unless I want something else by then) x] Aaaand a dirt pile to fit the little leftover space I had, and dirt is good to have when you have multiple large gardens of any kind. =] I have 10 butterflies staked in the far bit of yard and I don't remember how many piggies on the 4 islands and blue mushroom of the Night Lights background...feeders/collectors are floating where the bog background had a useable platform.

  • 3 Large Crop gardens and 3 Large Her Garden. I'm working that High Class Hoe nonstop and she breaks on me at least twice every time I go through the big rundown of plowing. :D I like making oodles of tincures for really no apparent reason but to sell them eventually. I'm sure when I get back into mining again, it will be tincures for potions and not tincures for currants! As for the crops, I reap massive amounts of produce for my cooking of massive feasts to be fed to the Batterflies for sweet sweet GUANO. For whatever ever reason, only the Giants know, I have a very great obsession for the stuff O_O
