Lack of Quests

I think its really important to provide more quests in the game.  There have been several times between skills when I was finished with all my quests.  I know there is plenty to do in game, but each person likes to play differently.  I happen to be the type of player who prefers to do quests as opposed to gathering, collecting, mining, money making, etc.  I think a good way to benefit the players is to provide more quests.  Like quests that are not necessarily related to the skills that you learn, but just general quests.  If people are already expressing boredom during testing stages, imagine how much bigger the problem will be when the game is released and people can play at any time.  Providing a nearly unlimited number of quests throughout the game will attract many different types of players who might not be interested in playing the game otherwise.

  • I don't know if it'll ever get to the point of being "nearly unlimited" but we are going to be adding a lot more quests. Right now we're investing in some programming work to build out better tools for making longer/more involved quests (using the experience gained from our newest game programmer building out the Room 23/Tower quest).

  • I think this game relies more on the culture building/life simulating style then fully quest based. Using that logic, there is definitely unlimited stuff to do. I see what you mean though, but I think that with time they will get stuff worked out, and quests will get added. Remember we're still in beta.

  • Yeah I understand about the game having so much more to do besides questing, I just think that it couldn't hurt to add more questing to appeal to a larger audience.

  • There are some players who just won't have the time for group participation. Quests are important in a game.

  • I think some of the existing quests could be made harder, or take longer.  For example, I just finished my last one - donate to get x number of favour points from a giant - in ten seconds flat.  If it had been the same task, but for ALL the giants... now there's a quest worth doing :-)  You could easily tweak them, and make the rewards a little greater, perhaps.

I'm down to only the peat quest, now.  And that's impossible.

  • It would be nice to have more than one quest attributed to each skill. Skill related quests are nice to have so they can teach you how to use a skill (briefly), but it would be nice to learn to get good at it too.

  • I felt things were a bit quiet for me quest-wise during this test as well. For the first time, I found myself wandering around aimlessly, trying to figure out what I should do since I didn't have any quests to fulfill. Glad to hear devs are focusing on adding many more. Yay!

  • I like to do personal quests.  Many of these result in Badges.  One I just completed was to make every recipe for each kitchen tool.  I do not have all the recipes yet but have made every one I could and got about three badges while doing it.  Another I recently completed was to walk every street including the housing areas.  This also got me a badge.  Just because there is no quest, does not mean that you cannot advance and achieve.  I am now in the midst of making all of the drinks.  I have also collected all of the spices, made all of the alchemy concoctions, etc.  As I learn I get more skills and then have more things to do besides the official Quests that my Rock gives me.

  • I am happy with the way quests are right now; because between achievement badges; donating to shrines; projects and current quests there is always something to do and always there is progress. Best thing is nothing is super repetitive.

Quests which require multiple skills will be nice; but with so much going on , I am not in any hurry.

  • I just finished creating a Gardening bag:

    A Bigger Bag containing
    A watering can
    A hoe
    A tinker tool

And seeds.  50 of each type you can plant in a garden

    Broccoli
    Cabbage
    Carrot
    Corn
    Cucumber
    Grain
    Onion
    Potato
    Rice
    Spinach
    Strawberry
    Tomato
    Zucchini

So far I haven't found Green Leaf, Turnip, or Radish seeds.

But it's a nice little 'collection/completion' quest for my own self.

  • Some of those seed types are super elusive - to the point (I suspect) of not really existing in the game itself...

  • Awesome ideas, WindBorn, Brib Annie and Gia! I will definitely try to think "outside the rock" a bit more and create some personal quests for myself during the next test.

  • I know there are other things to do in this game thats not questing, my only point is that some people (including myself) prefer to quest.  To have a start and ending point and a specific guideline to follow is rewarding to me.  I don't think I would pay for this game if it doesn't have many many many more quests.  I've played other games like this and they have so many quests even after years I was not able to complete them all.  That's what kept me playing the game: I always had something to work for.  Appealing to a larger audience and creating a way to keep people playing can not do any harm, if someone does NOT want to quest, they don't have to. But those of us that do want to quest, CAN.

  • Um, I agree, on both sides. This time around I don't seem to be coming across as many quests. But in the previous round I got annoyed because there were too many coming thick and fast!

It sounds like it's a personal choice thing - maybe there could be a "I want more/less quests purleeze, oh holy rock" buttons?
