Character names as symbols

I really dont mean to complain about this.....but I am not sure how to address it.  There was this person in game that needed help, their name was a bunch of symbols.  I could not add them to my friends list to mail the items to them because I could not find them in the search feature.

I hate to ask for something like this, but is there a way we can make it so it requires at least a certain amount of letters for character names?  How do we type out a bunch of skull&crossbones with squares as a name?

  • Names should be restricted to non-accent latin characters only.

  • I think the other names are cool, personally. You could always go to their profile page and copy and paste... bear in mind that an increasing number of users (some paying) may appreciate the game's support for japanese and chinese, for example.

  • While the game itself is English-based, the players all aren't! We kinda need "odd" characters so people can actually, y'know, spell their names. (I'm pretty sure nobody's name needs a skull in order to spell it properly, though.)

I'm pretty sure that the option to add someone as a friend is available from chat, though, which may solve at least part of your problem, Innie. But I've got no idea  how one might be able to search for someone with symbols for a name without doing some keyboard contortions, and I *do* know that some of the available symbols (not characters!) have caused problems with the game itself (players stuck in hell, or the rock thinks they don't belong anywhere so they keep getting randomly teleported). And in some situations (like chat bubbles), some names can't be displayed at all. I'm not sure if this is something that needs to be fixed, or a problem that needs to be prevented.

I do like that the game allows you to spell/write your chosen name properly. But just because you can make your name a long ASCII version of Jigglypuff blowing stars doesn't mean you should.

  • 1) Click their name in chat
    2) Click go to profile/info
    3) Click Add as friend or buddy...(i forget which)
    4) Done....

  • It's one thing to use Japanese/Chinese/Arabic/Russian/etc. characters in names- it's another to run around with a name like  §ųҎﳐƦаŴƷ§ѼӎҘ.
