Missing mechanic that keeps Glitch a bit shallow.

I'm guessing this has been posted before but my search was not very lucrative.

Giants should really reward more (or less) favor for donations that go along with their corresponding skills.

e.g. Zill gives more than any other giant for ores (secondary giants still give slight bonus too).
        Spriggan gives more for Loam/Jellisac
         Alth for tinkered objects

...and so on.  Right now, the giants do not have distinct enough personalities.

Obviously, just my opinion, but it doesn't seem too difficult to implement (other than balance, and what do you do with Cosma, etc.).

Cheers.

  • Not a bad idea, I would also like to see donations and the favor earned becoming more trackable. Maybe tell us how much favor we will earn from the donation and ask again if we want to accept?

  • Yes, this would be great!

  • I would *love* to see this. I'll admit that I do like the currently simple system, but complexity is fun too. Folks who mine a lot should be able to, naturally, get more favor with Zillle. The nibblers should get some appreciation from Humbaba. Grendaline should like peat a bit more than dirt & Spriggan should like dirt more.

It just makes sense and adds a touch of strategy without going too far while also make icons a touch more meaningful -- you would have a better idea of who you were revering and why. Our relationships with the giants would become a bit more tangible

  • @imbri exactly.  It's a great way to passively infuse lore and edumacates players about the different giants.

  • This suggestion makes sense, and it would add a fun layer.
But from a gameplay perspective, it might be frustrating, even conflict with the giant associated with learning skills mechanic we already have. If I'm working on a mining skill and trying to donate to Zille or Lem to speed it along, I do best with the fruit of mining -- the very thing I will have more fun doing AFTER I finish the skill!

  • @Niqster: the fact that those things would be harder to get beforehand is in itself another great reason that they should be worth more when you donate them. :)

  • It used to be that give certain things to certain giants for higher XP/favor points. For example, say that you had some rocks you wanted to donate. Well, you'd give them to Cosma because you'd get more points than giving to Lem. I never really figured out the Giant's preferences because it was changed soon after I started playing.

  • Yeah, something new to discover >>> Giant's preferences.

    {Not to derail this thread, but I feel this game needs more background on its mythology. I'm OK with the Rook Museum, but discovering Ur's mythology would be more fun if players figure it out by travelling and making sense of what they've seen, or experimenting with donations which can lead to knowing the giant's personalities.}

  • Roderick, we had that during beta, too. Everything I the game had a story to tell you about the giants. The short you got from a bubble tree would contradict what a pear bog said. Meanwhile, a chunk if berry would contradict both of them. It was cool, if a bit redundant at times, but at least we were getting background on things.

  • I was thinking of a more interactive way of knowing the giants. The talking plants, rock and critters were providing cool info, but it wasn't able to impart the feeling that the giants had personalities. And yeah, some of the statements were conflicting. The statements either felt like second-hand rumor, or the talking objects were cooking up some kind of conspiracy theory. I'd probably suggest a street or region that can give insight on who the giants are. Or perhaps a quest that gets activated after donating a number of the giant's favorite item, and he says to the player, "You seem to know my favorites very well. But do you really want to know me? Come look inside..."

In summary, I'm just looking for an experience that allows me to form my own opinion about the giant, be it through shrine donations, or street or quest. If a bubble tree from Groddle Heights told me that the giants love to party, I pretty much want to see something in Ur that validates that claim.
