Reps for Glitchens and private notes about friends?

Has there been any discussion on reps for Glitchens so we know who is rated by others or not.

It could reflect and show who is a good trader, an all round good egg etc, and who are the ones who cause problems mining or in community gardens.

I have seen it in another game and it was quite useful, gave some clues who to interact with and who to avoid.

Edit : (idea added from a later post)
Maybe even some kind of personal note to add about a contact (visible only to you) eg - "trades emblems 1 for 1" "stole my herbs in comm. garden" in the same way you can do on a phone, as a reminder of who/what the person is.

  • Can be easily exploited by those who want to bad-rep a person as a form of griefing though. It'd depend on the implementation.

  • Yuck, I'd hate to see this.  It would turn into a popularity contest and easy to grief others by negative repping.  -1

  • i think that it could be possible to design something like this that could not be easily exploited or something that turned into a popularity contest, and i think that it could be a really beneficial thing for the community.  that being said, i have no idea what that thing would look like.  but i would be interested in an actual discussion about how something like this might work without the general concept being immediately nixed for those two reasons.

  • Why not just have a +1 system, and no -1?
Can't really grief people with that, but someone with no +1's could just as easily be a lurker as a griefer in game.

  • ... thinking about it more... I *would* like to have a ratings or rep system in place for the Marketplace / Auctions / Trading in game.  There are quite a few people I've run into that just beg for things, or jack up prices on stuff unfairly or treat people rude or mean when trying to trade in game.  Or will follow players around asking "Will you trade with me? Trade with me! You're not trading with me??  TRADE WITH ME!  ME ME ME BUY MY STUFF" and it's like dude, *block* ssh.  >_>

Or people who offer to trade and then raise the price after you've gone to visit them to get the item.
Or people who you set up a trade with, are about to give them the money, confirm the trade and then they edit their trade, remove a item and then immediately click OK so you don't have time to edit your amount downward.  SKEEVY.

So.  You know.  It would be nice to -1 those players as far as trading goes so people can avoid trading with them.  (yeaahh pet peeves of mine -_-)...  Also this would reward players who trade a lot and nicely and have fair prices as *hopefully* they'd get more +1s.  (eh hem.  like me.. I'd hope!! *^_^*)

Maybe there could be "leaderboards" of the best traders so we could skim through them and look for the best deals on auctions or the nicest players to trade with in-game.  ^_^
And maybe it could be that you can only give rep after having traded with the person, so it would avoid griefing and again reward those who have the most interactions with others.  Maybe each person could get 1 vote per trade (or per traded item maybe??) so you can see how many sales a person has had by just looking at them or mousing over their player avatar or something.  (?)

Oh actually yeah this has a lot of potential.  <smiles>

  • I do agree with wanting to avoid annoyances, but as a less active player, I would dislike to have a low positive rating.  This may imply that I'm somewhat reputable, but would some people think that I have done other people wrong and thus not been able to get a higher reputation score?  Not sure how the rating system would even work as I've not played many other MMOs, but I would like to keep the playing field level for all users regardless of amount of activity.  If I want to auction/trade an item but don't trade very often, it sounds like my auction/trade may be less visible than if from someone who has completed more transactions.
I understand that players should be rewarded for their generosities and their integrity in the community, however adding point systems or ratings can often make it less fun for a casual gamer like myself.  If someone does you wrong, splank 'em, call 'em a jerk and tell 'em that greed happens when you stop doing something for the fun of it, IMHO.

  • @Sally from my experience quieter/less active players do not get negative reps - it is the griefers, price gougers etc. who get remarked upon.

@Miso - that is the sort of thing I was thinking, who you can trade with in all safety - eg for no-no, herbs etc.

I threw this idea out there for discussion as I am losing track of all the numerous people who are friending me and would like some way to know who is reliable for trading etc.

Maybe even some kind of personal note to add about a contact (visible only to you) eg - "trades emblems 1 for 1" "stole my herbs in comm. garden" in the same way you can do on a phone, as a reminder of who/what the person is.

  • Yes, a simple +1 would do, we shouldn't have -1's if this gets implemented.

  • riscy I love the idea of being able to add personal and private notes to our contacts.  :: Nods nods ::

  • I have mentioned it on a previous thread regarding reputations; most MMOG reputation systems are easily subverted by griefers. And I speak from personal, behind-the-scenes experience in this regard.

A "positive only" reputation system, i.e. only +1s and the like, are the best way to go if you want to implement a reputation system.
Posted 11 months ago by Mal'akh Subscriber! | Permalink
  • agree with Mal'akh that a +1 would be the best way to go.  You'd also have to set it up so you can only vote once per person and maybe have a -1 but it would only take your +1 vote away from someone not give them negative amounts.
Posted 11 months ago by BlackWolf Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think that other profile information is enough to get a pretty good insight into how active a player is, so if I saw a person with a low positive rating who had relatively little activity as indicated by number of skills/badges/friends/etc., I would understand what was going on there and wouldn't necessarily consider the glitch to be untrustworthy.

Something like a private thumbs up/down or note would be ok too, but I do think that some element of reputation-based economy could be an overall positive thing for the community. So in this case, I would be interested in the ability to see how a random stranger is rated by my friends, whether it's an aggregate rating or specific details.
Posted 11 months ago by katlazam Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I really like the idea of being able to take personal notes about people!  I also like the idea that if a rating system were to be implemented, that you would only be able to vote on a player once and would have the option to later remove a positive vote for a player if you felt the need to do so.
Posted 11 months ago by SallySomeone Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm not strong on the whole rep thing, but I got onto this forum specifically to talk about the idea of being able to add personal notes visible only to self when friending other glitches. I'd love to be able to note who all happened to be fellow Portlanders, who I'd done certain things with, etc.

  • I like the idea, the implementation would require a lot of thought, especially if everyone can make sock puppets so easily to vote themselves up.
Posted 11 months ago by Lady Cailia Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't like the idea of a system that allows players to grade other players - negative or positive.  Whilst a positive only system seems kinder, I can't help thinking it lends itself more to a popularity contest and that the potential for abuse/exploitation exists just the same. e.g. forum threads/IM's asking for a good rep.  Personally, the thought of reducing someone's character to a metric feels wrong for want of a better word, in my humble opinion.
