  • Thanks for taking part and not freaking out and making a run for it the minute you saw the red screen flashing:)

If you or anyone encounters a rook attack the quickest way to get a response would be announcing it on the Rook Alerts Group: http://www.glitch.com/groups/RIF6PQUFTQ524SH/

    or on Global Chat

For those unsure about what to do in a rook attack there is step by step guide here:http://www.glitch-strategy.com/wiki/The_Rook#Rook_Attack_FAQ

Usually the most common mistake even some of the older Glitches does is try to revive the animals first. Even without any skills you can fight the rook by clicking on the orbs above peoples heads, so long as the number is 7 or below.

Here's a video for those interested in what a rook attack looks like (spoilers if you want to experience it for yourself the first time)Rook attack is imminent

  • I would not characterize choosing to revive animals first as a "mistake." It's a choice. Some approve, some do not.

  • Well, it does get annoying when there are too few people fighting the Rook to keep it from attacking, while others just run around reviving the animals that are being stunned in the recurring attacks. Yes, it's a choice and people are completely free to do it, but if they are doing it consciously, it does come over as a bit opportunistic.

  • Not a Princess has nailed what I was trying to say. I have also seen some animals that were revived beforehand that needed reviving again afterwards perhaps due to the longevity of the attack, and so I don't see any point it doing it beforehand. I find it is best to focus on defeating the rook first.

To clarify what I meant by mistake - I have noticed that some of the more recent attacks have gone on much longer than they should have due to not enough people being available to click/focus the orbs and instead running around reviving while the rooks are still attacking. I imagine some people with tiny energy and mood tanks whom don't know the benefits of imbibing anything beforehand would appreciate rook attacks that aren't unnecessarily prolonged.

While I'm not as fussed about all this as I might sound I really just wanted to point people to Rook Alerts/Global for announcements to ensure the quickest response.

  • Yes, I was in a few such attacks myself recently. My energy tank can take it, but I saw at least one death of another player due to prolonged rook-fighting. One attack got so frustrating that I (as politely as I could) asked people to help with the rook and revive later, because we had been on it for several minutes. The alternative would have been for me to just go back to my house and let people get on with it, as we were not getting anywhere.

I know that some people will probably see asking others to cooperate as "policing others' play style" or whatever, but I do think that it would be nice if people responding to rook attacks could cooperate in defeating it. And of course new players might simply not know how the whole thing works - I was completely clueless in my first rook attacks, and it took me ages to understand the mechanism involved.

  • People, can't you see what's happening? The Rook is trying to divide us!

In all seriousness, I have revived animals during an attack before. Just couldn't resist their cries for help! But then I thought: "wait a sec, the suffering from this poor pixel-chicken will go on as long as we don't defeat the Rook. I should click some orbs instead!"

    That's my story. The end.

  • Not a Princess: I think you are exactly right (and Cleops is too because she is saying the same thing). I've only seen 2 rook attacks. They are definitely disconcerting and alarming - even to a Glitch veteran like me - so if one doesn't have any experience with rook attacks, it's really difficult to know what to do and it's really easy to panic. I very much appreciated the fighting experts who advised me of the proper/most useful way to proceed and would never assume that they were policing my gameplay. They were helping!

So keep doing what you are doing.

  • It's always fun when it starts to shake and scratch people's screens, and the newbies break out in panic, particularly when the scratches stay for a while. That freaked me out so much the first time it happened for me.
