Major memory leak, (Glitch using 1+ GB?!)

For the most part, starting earlier today Glitch has been hitchy or lagging a lot.

Example of the Memory Leak  - notice the huge memory spike, when entering a new space, when it should start dumping unneeded assets in the memory

That is crazy! I've never seen Flash use over a GB of memory... ever!

Would like to get the opinion of the community and staff, anyone else having noticeable performance issues?

Update Edit: Not Flash version related

Update 2: Also posted in reply below but included here for fast reference

So its been almost two weeks and today, I'm playing Glitch and performance seems very shall we say, inconsistent. But after getting a framerate that barely would break 10+ I took a look a memory usage for the browser... Again I see a similar site from two weeks ago

Again my I was approaching 1 GB

but what surprised me more was Glitch itself was measuring memory use at

There is a about 100 MB of discrepancy in RAM usage reported by the browser and game

Side Note(s): No other flash content was loaded in the browser session,Glitch was the first and only thing to use the plugin
I am using the latest official plugin
I am running on Windows 7 64-bit
This happens in all of the latest versions of the web browsers that I've tried (Opera, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Maxthon, Internet Explorer 64 and 32-bit versions)

  • I am using Chrome on a fast Mac with a fast connection. I very rarely experience any sort of lagging or significant hitching. But earlier today was horrible. I did this and it seems to have improved things. The lag is still pretty bad, but before I ... downgraded? ... Glitch was almost unplayable for me. AND WE CAN'T HAVE THAT.

  • You may not want to be using a previous version of Flash- there have been some pretty nasty exploits patched recently, and downgrading just opens those vulnerabilities right back up. I, for one, am just going to tough it out and wait for an update from TS- I'd suggest anyone concerned with security do the same.

  • Please DO NOT downgrade your Flash version, that is a red herring.

  • I'm using Chrome on a new (January) MacBook Pro and this is hitting me fairly badly. I have to keep killing flash and re-entering the game :(

  • geekybird, I am on Win 7, Firefox, and I am having to restart the game once every 30 mins because the memory drain on my computer becomes too much.

Not sure what has happened since the update to trigger all this, though.

  • I have to reload the game after about 2-3 hours because it starts getting really laggy. I have 6GB of RAM, an i7 CPU, and a 1GB GTX 460 video card. Windows 7 64-bit. Firefox. It even does this in the 64-bit version of firefox.

A computer as powerful as mine should not be succumbing to a window of vector cartoons that takes up only 1/4 of my screen, considering I can max out Assassin's Creed Revelations, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, and even The Sims 3 at 1920x1080 and get totally smooth performance.

Something definitely is fishy here. I know Flash is terribly unoptimized, but it gets downright ridiculous sometimes.

  • Okay, I had re-upgraded Flash earlier and things are bad enough again that I was just about to re-downgrade once more, and then I stopped by here and saw Wrench's and Jono's scary messages. The game seemed okay-ish earlier today -- not great, but not too bad -- but now it's back to constantly lagging and hitching. Is shutting Chrome all the way down and then restarting it the thing to do? What does it mean to kill Flash? Will that help? I will kill whatever needs to be killed. Do you hear that, Flash? Do not stand between me and the game.
