What is the best way to do all the herb related quests? I dont live in the swamp and I'm nervous to use the community gardens cause I don't want someone to jack my stuff.
First, notice that the quests do not require you to harvest exactly the same plot that you planted.
You can take your seeds to the Community Garden, harvest the herbs you need, and replace them by planting the same seeds. That will count toward the quest requirements.
Alternatively, ask a friend if you can borrow a plot. Or ask in a group you belong to if any other member is willing to loan you their herb plots for a while
Or, you can buy a bog house and move there until you're done with the quests, then sell that house and buy a different one.
I've tried harvesting/planting from a Community Garden, and from a private garden (not my own house) - the planting seems to count towards my Shucks To Be You quest, but the harvesting isn't. I'm not sure if something's broken with my quest, or if I'm doing something wrong...
May I suggest that since your house is not permanent anyway (it is known that we will all have new houses in a few months), you just sell it and buy a bog house for as long as it takes to finish the herb stuff you want to do?
Randomcyn, I just did that quest recently and found with mine I had to do the items in order. For example, I had to shuck for 6 seeds first, then plant all 6 times, then harvest 6 herbs. The herbs I harvested before having planted all 6 seeds didn't count toward the 6 harvests needed. It was a surprise to me and a pain overall, but all worked fine once I was aware that order mattered.
When TS took the game back to closed beta, they said it was because they needed to re-work some of the basic aspects of the game. They had been saying for months that housing would change in some manner.
No one knows what that change will look like. It may (or may not) include staying in your current house. Anyone who says "your housing is not permanent" is just saying that in order to make their argument stronger.
Which do not necessarily mean that you won't end up right back where you started. Many of us hope that once the new coding is in place, we will return to the same address that we have now.
"We're not ready to share the whole plan here (since we're still settling a few of the finer details) but we can say this: it will be at least as easy to chose your neighbors as it is now (and probably much easier). The change will not be moving from one of the current housing types to another, but changing it so that houses (and land) are something that you create: expanding the size, upgrading the frame, designing the interior, choosing resources for your property, and so on. So, while you might not be able to re-create your favorite of the current Meadow cottages down to the pixel level, you will be able to make something entirely your own."
Windborn, moving is not speculation, in that thread and in others it has been said by Stoot that we will not be able to keep our current homes and we will have to build new ones from the ground up.
The moving boxes were a direct response to those concerns. It has also been said it will be even easier to choose your neighbors, clearly meaning that it will not be the same system now, and it will probably not be the same location -- otherwise, you would not be choosing your neighbors again and would have no more control over who they are than we do under the current system.
As for speculation, I would speculate from these hints that what we currently think of when talking about addresses will have absolutely no meaning in the new system, and it is quite possible that homes will not be linked to specific regions, never mind specific streets. I suspect this change because, if I were a dev, I'd find having to pay attention and add housing signs as the popular regions sell out to be much less efficient than just not having locations that are more desirable than others within a system that places housing creation in player hands and removes the need for devs to code new blocks in.
But serious: DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE STUFF IN YOUR HOUSE OR MOVING IT SOMEWHERE ELSE.
(all caps in the original)
While there will be changes, they do not mean that we are all going to have to move somewhere else, and that therefore selling and moving now is a reasonable strategy.
Trying to persuade someone to sell the house they have now and move to a bog house by claiming that they will have to do so later is injecting far more fear into the process than necessary.
Yeah, you shouldn't worry about it, because they will make it really easy with moving boxes to transfer it.
We'll revisit this in three months and see which is correct. But I have a feeling your current address will be meaningless, and new players one year from now won't even understand the phrase "Groddle Meadow Home"
I think the best strategy for the herbs is to be friendly. Make lots of friends, one of them will have herb plots for you:)
The new housing will be completely different, so I think that "move now" would work as well, but only if herbs is going to be a major thing for you.
