Wonderful Wednesday - Introducing Towers!

Update 1: new towers are suspended while we work out some kinks. Sorry!
Update 2: issue is fixed for new towers, we're fixing up the ones that failed now
Update 3: Wine of the Dead should now be working correctly for everyone

If you head to your home street you'll find a new choice in the cultivation menu; the Tower. Each player can build a single tower on their home street (once they reach level 18), although the process is pretty expensive.

Once built, towers can be decorated just like your house, but visitors to your home street can enter them. Whether you're looking to sell items through vendor SDBs, tell a story, showcase your favorite rare items or just show off your decorating skills, towers are a good place to do it. If you need more space, just build another floor (up to 9 for now).

If you're high enough level and have the materials handy, give it a go and let us know how you get on. Comments, bugs etc should be posted in this thread.

  • Yay! It was a pile of work, but I got my tower up! Now to build more floors :-)

I've been hoarding lots of goods, so will put them up for sale when I get home tonight.

Thanks for the cool and fun new addition, Tiny Speck!

  • I haven't had a chance to check this out, but rumor has it that more than one tower can be placed on a street. If true, that could be interesting ;>
Posted 5 months ago by Splendora Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Splendora: sadly, the rumor you heard was wrong. Just one per street for now.

  • Thanks for the rapid response, stoot. I should know better than post rumors. My bad.

  • @Stoot: wow, great, funny video! And perhaps a quote from that that may apply in some relevant situations: "We live in an amazing world and it's wasted on the crappiest generation of spoiled idiots that don't care." I would never say anything so harsh, of course... but I would certainly think it.

  • @ Muncey: I see. It was just the way you expressed your complaint that gave me a chuckle (...plague my dreams). No offense intended. I sometimes have dreams about glitch too.

  • oh yah, I forgot I wrote that part! XD

  • I have to agree with Muncey Mango, the scaling of the tower and especially the wee little door is really creepy...well, maybe not quite as creepy as the original butlers, but it's definitely bothersome...

I will say that I do love the exterior progression graphics as the first part of the tower is originally being built...too cool.  The floor building additions look nifty also.  Those are the little touches that I like about this game.

  • It would be cool if towers got listed with the other resources in the home page loading screen. It would be nice to be able to tell if someone had one, without running up & down their street (although that's cool too).

  • Another of my CDO posts:  Why are the colors of the light red and yellow/tan tower segments just ever so slightly different between the bottom segment and the top segment?  I am not usually into so much matchiness, and wouldn't mind mixing in green and orange.  However, the yellow of the area around the door needs to be the *same* as the yellow on the roof.

  • When we get the new customizations, I'm hoping to match my tower to the style of my Tiny Hominid house! =)

  • Okay; finally had the opportunity to engage in a first build.
    Some first impressions:

    The good:
    a) Not too resource intensive; I thought the 20K img would feel painful. It was not. The 200 snails was painful, but it inspired me to get excited and make things.
    b) Super nice interiors, very expansive.
    c) Love the little elevators. Super sweet.
    d) I was very pleased that all I had to do to make space was engage in advanced nudgery; no resource removal required. Big relief.
    e) I really like the "under construction" look of incomplete floors. I may keep one of those around just for the night sky, and the stars.
    f) Really like that "looks we own" can be applied to the tower for deco purposes.

    The bad:
    a) As others have already pointed out, the scale of the door is off-putting.
    b) I was quite unhappy with the architectural options. We clearly need to expand the artwork themes.  Bog first, please.
    c) Still no windows.

Overall, however, a really nice feature with lots of goodies in it.  Very slick.

Thanks so much for this new addition!

  • I never saw an official response regarding cabinet inventory. Can anyone access it? Just key holders? What about placed items? Same as in the house (ie, placed in decorate mode is untouchable, dropped is accessible)?
Posted 5 months ago by Abby Cadabra Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Abby Cadabra: it works just as in houses (keyholders have access to cabinets but no one else does); placed items should be locked on furniture (but not dropped items and not if placed on floor). HOWEVER, the latter stuff is known to be buggy, so do not place your favorite/most valuable items out, just in case.
Posted 5 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Stoot, I tested that with a few people yesterday by placing items on a countertop and table. They were able to take everything. I even placed an item on the counter while in decorate mode, and they were still able to pick it up.
Posted 5 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Shep, that's the buggy part; when we tested it in the towers, no one other than the owner could touch the placed items.

  • Love the new towers.... just can't make up my mind what to do with it..

One question, when I leave the world to go back home... my home picture is one of the floors in my tower, and not of my home. Is this the way it is suppose to be?

  • One(?) of the people visiting my tower actually bought something! I would never have noticed if they hadn't emptied two of the SDBs. Is there some sort of notification that I missed? Or could we maybe get some cash register tape into our butlers' droppy hands? I don't care who bought what, but it would be neat to see what's selling without having to maintain a ledger myself.

  • I started out having fun visiting other people's towers, which helped me think about where I wanted to put mine and how to organize it. Building has lots of fun! I have 3 floors finished and one in progress. I love looking at the stars on the unfinished floors, and I wish there were a way to lock the project to keep it from being finished.

The Lobby of my tower is set up for informal dining. From time to time, free food from the Community Kitchen will be available there. At other times, it can be used for hanging out.

Level 1 is going to be a cook's store. You'll be able to buy groceries, produce and other items (such as pickles) needed for preparing meals and drinks. (Right now all I have are the non-craftable grocery items, but more is coming soon).

Floor 2 will house the Community Kitchen food bank prepared meals and drinks. Meals and drinks prepared in group cooking sessions or donated to the group will be stored here for future group projects. They'll also be offered for sale, probably at street prices, with all proceeds going to fund Community Kitchen projects. (Note: This seems like a nice use for the "banking" feature of SDBs.)

Floor 3, when it's built out, will house the Community Kitchen food bank ingredients. These will not be offered for sale, but rather will be used by Community Kitchen cooks to craft prepared meals and drinks for the food bank and for group projects.

When I'm able to build additional floors, I plan to also have a cook's lounge, and a party room.

  • Aleph Zero: when something has sold, there's a little currants symbol in the bottom left corner of the SDB to let you know you can collect from it.

Splendora, re "I love looking at the stars on the unfinished floors, and I wish there were a way to lock the project to keep it from being finished." — eventually we'll have different options so each floor can be its own environment. Or something! Because we all like that too.

  • I found the verb 'collect' and collected so many currents! I was astonished and absurdly happy; for some unclear reason - this made me feel part of a larger community   :D
I was unsure at first if I would even build a tower - but I love the creative expression of it and the fact I can invite all of UR
    Thanks

  • I finished all the floors in my tower: www.glitch.com/snaps/PCRA67...

    I absolutely love it!
I also love how the street background light affects show through my tower.
It works well for my weirdness enjoyment :D

I've only just started on the inside so there's only a few things for sale in the lobby, and a rarer items showroom on the top floor.
So much to consider and play with over the nine floors!

I think I'm having more fun with this than my home! :D
    Thanks, TS!

  • Whoah. "Collect" is a trip. I'm surprised and happy just like harriette .Thanks Stoot!

ETA: and I'm feeling the same as xombiekitty, even though I'm nowhere near done. I'm thinking of gutting my house to move all the pretty things to the tower.

  • I didn't see this mentioned anywhere but is anyone else getting the bug when finishing a floor, the tool noise doesn't stop until you leave the tower? I'm working on my last floor and so far it has happened every time.
