The ability to decline/delete other people's keys!

I want the right to return house keys, or better yet just decline them.  What if I dont want a house key from someone's house?  Do I really have to come across rude by IM'ing someone and saying "I really dont want your key, please take it back!"  Can't there just be a quiet way I can delete it on my end?

  • You came into my house and stole my pickle!

Just kidding, but it could happen. Also, the house owner will be able to tell that you have given your key back because your name will no longer be listed.

  • Um.  ?  Why would you need this Innie?  Why not just... not use it?  I don't understand.  It's not like it's taking up space in your inventory or something.  Is there something about keys I do not know?  ~O.o~

  • I would like to be able to decline keys as well.

Let's say someone gives you and a few other people a key and while they are away/offline one person takes advantage by stealing some of their things. I don't want to be lumped in with the group of "suspects". I know that it was the key givers fault to begin with for handing out keys to someone they shouldn't have trusted, but I still would like the ability to avoid a scenario like that.

My glitch friend told me that someone she had talked to only once at a party gave her a key to her house, she had no idea why and she didn't want the key to begin with. She is waiting for this person to come online to ask her to take the key back...kinda awkward.

  • I also want the ability to not accept keys.

It's a sign of trust to me to get a key and I really don't want someone's trust when I don't really know this person. It's awkward.

and then there's the whole obligation thing. If you get a key from someone, you feel obligated to give back or they expect you to give them your key. GAH. I Don't want that.

  • I guess my social reciprocity is a little broken... I would never feel obligated to give someone a key just because they gave me one.  And I didn't realise people were handing them out so freely.  :o

There's only 1 person that will ever have a key besides meself and that's my best friend.  Oh and my hubby if he would ever actually *play* (he signed up but never plays >_<).  Ie.. only people I really trust.  I thought that's how it's supposed to work!

  • Has anyone tried blocking and then unblocking the giver of the key?

It probably will remove their key from your keyring.

  • Good idea WindBorn.

And also honestly I didn't think about the accusations from a player against another player to whom they'd given a key, but... I can't see how that would affect things.  If they reported it to the Help peoples the staff would know it's a false accusation because they could check records and stuff and see what inventory went where, when.  Right?

  • Well, when you give a key, and steal from that person, it's not really an offense.

And like what are people scared of? Get splanked or something? People should know that their getting the key cuz their special and all...

  • Yes,we definitely need a way to remove keys we have received, but don't intend to use ~I know it doesn't take up inventory space, but it does 'clutter the keyring'.

  • Have to agree, the ability to decline keys would be a really good idea. I have to agree that I'd rather not have keys from people I really don't know.  Granted, it's just pixels, but people get so hyper over them...

  • You must be a well trusted person ^_^

  • Does it really matter the reason why we want the ability? It's different from person to person.

I just would like the ability. My reasoning is my own.

  • what if they had set it up so that you could designate some of your friends as house-friends or friends with a special level of access that allowed them access to your house?  would that make any difference?  I think people are just over reacting to the sight of keys on the ring.  On other social websites you can give some of your contacts access to more private content and nobody complains about that or expects for it to be reciprocated.    This is no different.

  • the one person i've exchanged keys with in this game is someone i know in real life and would trust with the key to my real house.

if someone i didn't know gave me their key, i would like the ability to return it.
Posted 13 months ago by flask Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I agree with this. Yes, not having the ability to decline of return keys, is in no way a game breaker. But it is very disconcerting to be given a key from someone from someone you would never ever give a key to.

I received a key from a player who has posted a length lists of do's and don't's if he give you a key. Overly restrictive rule in my mind. Rules I would never agree to. And yet, they gave me a key without asking. And who else are they blindly giving keys to? Made me nervous so I had to ask them to take it back... which they kindly did.

    But it was awkward.

  • Very much agree/want.

I am uncomfortable with being given something and having no option to return it. I'd feel the same with any in-game item, but keys to houses even more so. It may be silly for me to see it this way, but it forces a risk or sense of responsibility on me that I may not be willing to accept. For close friends, absolutely not a problem. For acquaintances, no thank you. Unless I have a need for one (ie to feed piggies while someone is away), I don't quite understand why I'm being given one. I've even had someone ask if I wanted a key, said no thank you, and was given one anyway. I've never been in their home when they were there, why would I want to be there when they're not? I just don't understand, heh.

  • Block/unblock seems to work, according to someone who said they had tried it.

That lets you quietly remove the key from your key ring without getting into a conversation with the person about why you don't want their key.

  • I've been given a lot of keys, at least 6 of which are from people I have never had a conversation with. I'm not going to take advantage of their trust (I have little desire to traipse all over Ur going into people's homes, frankly), but the comment above about being on a list of "suspects" if they are indiscriminately handing out keys and the inevitable bad apple steals something makes me nervous.
