New TP tab above chat

I don't see what was wrong with the way it used to work. It wasn't broken, so why fix it? Now when I teleport I have to close the TP chat tab because it's a complete waste of space.

Please change it back.

  • They are probably working on something new and it's an artifact and will go away before you know it.  Stuff like this happens all the time. :)

  • In fact, I think the entire update was a bad decision. Map tab in chat included.

  • Maybe just move the teleport up some and make it more of a button, and so that it closes when you're done with it.  The map is kinda neat, but as I can tell, at the moment, I can't drag it around, so I'd just stick with the regular map.  IMHO. (Dragging for destination setting.)

I like having teleport back on the front page, when it was tucked away, I used it far less.

  • Oh — whoops — I misread the first post.

Auto-closing the TP menu after you use it is a good idea. I bet we'll do that.

  • LOL stoot..  I wrote that in haste, and reading it back, it does make me sound like an ingrate. So, sorry for that.

But I do look forward to seeing this ,,feature,, improved upon.

  • Umm, so we complained about the Groups + Friends list being too long and they add stuff that made it even longer? ;)

  • I would honestly prefer it go back to the popup thing we had before.  I do not like how this covers chat.

Can we also move the tabs to above the game screen, or somewhere else?  The right side of the screen is way too cluttered.  We have groups, friends, local chat, activity, chat rooms, etc.  Just way too much stuff, now you put a map and our teleports there, too?  What was wrong with the popup for teleporting?

  • Innie✿: that's still there (just press "M" or the map icon above the minimap or use the menu on the new map tab). You can close the map tab and it will stay closed.

Janitch: collapsing groups is coming soon. But, if what you really want is a shorter list, the only thing you can do is leave some groups or unfriend some people.

  • I don't much care for the way it is currently. A couple of things I'd suggest:

-If the tabs stay on the side of the chat/local area that they are on, they need to go under where the group/private chat tabs open.

I'd really rather not have them there as it is since there's so many tabs already (since we can't choose what group chats we want to appear at the top of our list or shift groups we don't want to see under our list of friends yet). Someone suggested maybe a couple of buttons in the space between Current Location and the bug icon.

-Clicking on the tab after it's been opened ought to close it (much like the change to hitting U to open and close the upgrade window).

  • Holy crap, this is a whole level of amazing. But I gotta agree, now I can't tell when my friends are on because I'm in so many groups. Several of them, I'd love to still be in but not have to see them on my chat list.

  • Collapsing groups sounds great, stoot, and I can't wait! I still hope that someday we'll be able to favorite a few groups to stay outside of that function (and cross fingers and wish on stars and... and..). I know I have one or two group chats I'd like to keep easy to access without having to uncollapse/collapse the section every time I log on, so I'm sure there are others that do as well.

  • Easier access to my TP points. Considering I'm only a month or so from having only TP badges left, awesome, that'll come in handy. ;D

The tiny map thing... I don't see what it's good for. I'm not complaining as the obvious solution for me is "don't use it," although I'd like to know what the intended use cases are, as maybe I'm missing something. It doesn't seem to do anything particularly useful that isn't better accomplished by the mini map and the huge map.

  • @Justin Daigle--For me, I think the map tab will be most useful when I'm in the Ancestral Lands, when I want to know which signpost to click next without having to lose time opening the map or risk a juju getting me when I'm not looking. Or at least that's what it seemed immediately useful for as I was in the AL when the change kicked in, lol.

  • Yeah, the little map is actually useful when walking since it shows you the immediate area of your current region.

  • I like it! So much closer. And more intuitive for newer players.

  • I dunno if this has been mentioned, but it'd be cool if the chat pane could maintain its size through closings and reopenings of the tele menu?

As it is now I max the size of the group chat or IM I'm in, use the tele tab, and then my chat pane is tinified.

    Only complaint :)

  • @karibean I can see using the map tab for just such an occasion, roaming the ancestral land.. but not really anywhere else.

  • Just tried it out. I like it.  Nice work devs.

  • I would like to say, I like the tele tab, because I teleport constantly. About as much as I can possibly bear to. That said, I also am short on vertical space. Could the cooldown go into the tab's header line, or whatever it's formally called?

And if you -do- decide to make it close after use, could that be an option? I'm already enjoying having it open, since the previous command, Shift-T, was kind of confusing. All the other keyboard shortcuts worked without shift, so..?

UI customization seems to be a no-no given the way requests for it have gone in the past, but maybe my anecdotal awareness isn't representative of fact.

  • I absolutely loooove the new mini map at the top ... that way i can see where the heck im goin !  The TP thing isnt a big deal to me but the mini map is great!

  • I really dislike the way the teleport tab cuts into the chat window and the way it drops the friend list down so far. To me this comes under the "If it wasn't broken why fix it?" category.

  • Little Miss Giggles: the plan right now —because it is by far the simplest— is to collapse all groups (like offline contacts). Since the groups that you had open last session are automatically re-opened when you load the game, you kind of already have the "quick list" of favorite groups … they are the ones you keep open. In the future we intend to do more better things :)

Justin Daigle , re "The tiny map thing... I don't see what it's good for."

Like karibean and Janitch said, it's mostly for helping you understand what's going on when you get to a signpost: as obvious as everything may seem to you now, people who are new to Glitch have a really hard time getting a sense of the "space" and this has helped a lot in testing.

It's helpful in the AL for everyone, but it is particularly useful when exploring a new area for the first time so you can tell which streets you haven't been to yet (the names of the streets in Glitch are … not especially conducive to perfect recall). And, it just gives a different "feel" to what it is like moving around when you see your star moving up/down or left/right (you can have the map move around you, or keep it fixed and have your marker move).

We've had it on for devs for a month or so and though I personally keep it closed most of the time because of how much IM/chatting/etc., I do, I really enjoy going around some of the less familiar regions with it on.

  • *Most* of the time they're reopened automatically. :) It also depends on what machine/browser you're accessing from as well. It's just one of the things I see being good in the distant future (at least if things stay similar to how they are); I know there's many more important things. :) The collapsing will be wonderful, for sure.

  • I like the new tabs. I mostly use tokens to travel, so I won't be using that one very often. But the maps tab is very handy, for the reasons stoot stated. So often I am searching for a particular shrine or vendor and would open the full  map to get my bearings. Now I can just use the tab. I think newer players will find it especially useful.

  • oh, this is ace... i have no sense of direction.  Wandering round Ur was a completely vague concept... just street after street after street, sometimes I'd be going left-to-right, sometimes right-to-left,  it meant nothing.  This gives me some sense of place at least.

  • i like the idea but the chats get cut off now. i like the idea of following your self. if we  got something that shows us where other players are, that would be cool too. :)

  • something on map so you can see how many players are in cebarkul when your in estavan meadows

  • I love the new mini-map.

My only minor gripe with it is that it doesn't show entrance/exit points -- when I'm wandering around the ancestral lands, I tend to avoid those parts of the map, because they're where a lot more people have trod and thus, I'm less likely to end up with anything interesting.  But it's a minor gripe to an otherwise wonderful feature.

    Thanks, devs!

  • YAY mini map ^^

For some reason this feels familiar :p

If you want more Glitch-companion-like features, you could also add a third tab for street resources in there
