And/or maybe we could have some beds at home... recovering the energy in a similar way, for example, as meditation. Don't know... it's one idea... It's why we need homes for (not only for storing things inside). ;)
I think if you go AFK at home you should GAIN energy and mood at the same rate that they naturally drop over time when outside. But you only gain energy while you are AFK so you can't play and refill at the same time.
Trb4-wouldn't that be the same as just signing out?
what if we had somthing like "taking a nap" which allows you to gain back half of your remaining health, or maybe you don't lose energy while youre inside your house.
I've heard a lot of people suggesting or approving of the suggestion of being able to build/buy decorations and furniture for your house which would do something like this. Decorations would help prevent mood loss (and might even offer some gain over time?) and furniture would mitigate energy loss. It would encourage parties and general out-hanging at one's house.
At the very least, I'd love to see a beverage or something that gave a mood and energy bonus small enough to offset the usual drain for a good 5 mins or so - that would be perfect for nipping over to the forums/wiki to check something! ^__^
Being able to go AFK while we're in our houses would be awfully nice. We can't even browse and post auctions in another window right now without an energy drain.
It would be a matter of protection. Inside the house wouldn't be anymore a problem to go AFK.
Also, that would be helpful (perhaps could be one solution) for the super-over-populated hells.
I could be wrong here but I believe the idea of the whole losing energy when AFK is that so you don't just stay connected wasting real life resources doing nothing, when you walk away you're probably still transmitting some information back and forth between the servers, even though you're not doing anything.
Again I could be wrong, but I've seen this sort of thing implemented in other MMOs when people are away for long periods of time (longer than 10 minutes) to stop them from keeping a connection for ever when they're not even there.
@Bluigi, So then it's better that after you die because of being AFK, you keep staying AFK in Hell? The transmission of data occurs from everywhere, "dead" in hell, or alive in your house.
@Reihox What kind of ramifications are you talking about? Are you AFK yourself? You get badges for dying, it's not something that works for punishment.
There'a the possibility to die in many other ways. Inside our houses being AFK we shouldn't have this energy loss (And anyway if having it, why to be losing the same amount inside and outside? It doesn't make much sense). www.glitch.com/achievements...
Maybe buying one item: Let's imagine and consider one "pillow" that could also be used afterwards for pillow fights as wood is used for splanking.
This pillow could be kept at home, in the storage cabinet, or could be a badge or a trophy, and if one inventory item it wouldn't work out of home.
This pillow would avoid the energy loss while mood loss would still happen (because it's normal to be bored after a while if closed at home, away from society).
As a noob, I was greatly surprised to purchase my first little apartment, go AFK unexpectedly when I got an important phone call, and then return to find out I am dead in Hell! (LOL)
This is the only game I've played where owning a personal home or territory does not protect your character from death or, at the very least, stop normal stat drain rates.
As it is, homes seem to serve only as Enormous Bags of Holding for your stuff and private reserves of animals / crops. That's nice, but it is also sort of what you expect when you purchase a place. Tweaking things so that emergency AFKs while at your Ur home don't kill you would be nice. Yes, you still lose some energy just to maintain existence, and yes, your mood would drop from boredom, perhaps, but being unsafe in your own hideyhole is a little unusual.
I like the idea of a player-selected furniture item being available to stop energy drain when activated, or simply having reduced energy drain while at home.
I'd say expand the idea to have a glitch gain energy/mood when in his/her home, whether afk or not, and whether on a particular piece of furniture or not. Not a fast gain, but maybe at the same speed that a glitch usually loses energy/mood. At the very least, the energy/mood drop should stop when in your own home.
I could deal with the furniture idea, but please don't get rid of energy loss at home... how am I supposed to suicide (for the Dracula achievement) if there isn't any energy loss?
AFK serves a very real purpose and probably isn't going anywhere. What might work is that going AFK outdoors takes you to hell when you run out of energy, and going AFK in your home logs you out of the game when you run out of energy. Still, Glitch is not the real world, and expecting it to make real world sense all the time detracts from what it is.
@WalruZ, I don't think that nobody here thinks or considers Glitch to be like the real world or that one wants it as the real world.
This is only a practical matter and I don't know if you already understood the idea. If for instance you have to go AFK, because it is your meal time in RL, your lunch, dinner, or for whatever reason else you need to go AFK - it happens all the time. At the moment you can't leave the game on without risking to be in Hell when you come back.
So why people keep being AFK, why people keep being connected while away from the computer, you might ask now?
Obviously, or most likely because of the Chat. People are having their conversations while playing, but chats don't work when one is out of the game. Maybe they should have their own space in the main page or else some better system for messages with our friends while idle (but that's one topic for some other thread).
And because this doesn't exist it would be good at least to have a chance to continue the game after lunch break without having the trouble to recover your mood and energy from staying in Hell.
At the same time houses have big a potencial and they could be used for that. You could "run away" home every time you would need to be AFK (teleportation already costs energy, subway already costs money and walking home already costs time).
Imagine one item that you could buy at one of the vendors or that could be produced by yourself (maybe one powder, or drink). And you could use it every time you wanted to be "frozen" (1 time per unity). You could activate it before going AFK. That would stop your energy loss but also all your interactions in Glitch except chatting (you wouldn't move, etc).
