Location and Achievement Helper Bookmarklets

Hey!

I made a couple of little bookmarklets to help you sort out which locations you've been to and which achievements you've gotten. I have them at joefriedl.net/lab/bookmarkl....

The Location Helper adds little "Check" links to each zone at glitch.com/locations that, when clicked, crosses off each location you've been to. It also adds a "Set as Destination" link to each one for easy navigation! Source on GitHub.

The Achievement Filter fades out all the achievements you've already gotten at glitch.com/achievements. That one's much simpler. Source on GitHub.

You're free to use, modify, and distribute all my bookmarklets and pretty much anything else I make. Let me know if they work for you, or if you can think of any improvements or changes you'd like to see! Thanks!

  • These are so cool! They definitely work for me and are quite helpful! Thanks for making them!

  • Awesome! Do you think you can make them work as Greasemonkey scripts?
That way you wont have to manually run the code (or bookmark) each time you open the page, since it gets loaded automatically.

  • These are great! My first exposure to bookmarklets. I was wondering when TS would implement the location indicator, but now I don't have to wait :)

  • You definately deserved a beer.

Thank you very much for your efforts. This is very helpful!

  • Greasemonkey for the location checker.
I changed the visuals a little, I think it's easier now.
Kudos to the original author :)

  • thx for the monkey port
    works fine as well!
the old location checker was being very slow lately, so it's great to have selective check for this one :]

  • btw, anyone ever thought about an item checker?
not as useful, but useful still
since every new item gives you xp, or for collections purposes

  • Awesome <squaaaaawk> bookmarklets! Thanks for this.

  • The location checker isn't working for me :(
Is there anything I should be doing other than dragging it to bookmarks and using the bookmark?

  • Wow, thanks for the response!

Ethaniel, I haven't used Greasemonkey scripts before, but it looks like Waihopai has you covered. The added contrast was definitely needed, and I'll incorporate that into my bookmarklet.

Lemo, I'll look into an item checker. Do you know of any pages on the site or API methods that would indicate whether you have/had them? Also, I wasn't aware of the existing versions of these tools! I searched for "bookmarklets", but searching or "greasemonkey" never crossed my mind.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! Anything you guys can come up with will definitely improve the Glitch experience for a lot of people.

  • Scarlett, that should be all you need to do. What browser are you using?
Posted 14 months ago by Grampa Joe Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Not working for me either.  using latest FF on a mac
Posted 14 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Try loading the page, and then clicking the bookmark while on the page.  That fixed it for me in Firefox.

  • Waihopai, why not locate the script at userscripts.org as greasemonkey scripts usually are?  that bayfiles place isn't being really friendly to my virus checker for some reason.
Posted 14 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh! I should probably mention that you're free to use, modify, and distribute this stuff however you want. I'll add that to the original post.

Tibbi, let me know if you've used it on glitch.com/locations and are still having problems.

  • No idea about the API method Grampa ;)
    Thx for considering it tho^^
Posted 14 months ago by Lemo Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'll keep looking into it, Lemo. If anyone else has any features they want to see on the Glitch site (not inside the game, since the powers of JavaScript don't extend that far), let me know and I'll see what I can do about it.

  • The Location Checker is very nice. It is much more convenient to only check one area at a time rather than wait for the old checker to check all 1300+ locations.

I had some trouble getting this to work on Google Chrome, but I was able to figure it out. Here are the steps for using this in Google Chrome:

    1) If your bookmark bar is not visible while viewing a webpage you can toggle it on by pressing Ctrl+Shift+B
    2) Click and drag the Glitch Location Helper link found on this page http://joefriedl.net/lab/bookmarklets/ into your bookmark bar.
    3) Go to the locations page here http://glitch.com/locations and then click on the bookmark that you created in step 2.

If things went well you should see a "Check" link below each area's name.

    Good luck!

  • Any hope of getting the Achievement Filter in a Greasemonkey version? I can't get it to work in Javascript for some reason.
Posted 14 months ago by Demetra Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm going to leave the Greasemonkey porting to others, since I like to keep things as simple as I can. I still encourage it, though!

  • Greasemonkey scripts, Glitch Location Helper and Glitch Achievement Helper
Kudos to Granpa Joe for his work :)

  • Thanks, Waihopai! They were fun to write, and more is on the way.

  • The location checker is the answer to my completionist prayers! Thank you so much, Grampa Joe!

And thank you Waihopai for the GM version!

  • Thank you so so much Grampa Joe! Wonderful locations checker! The other one I had to uninstall as it slowed me down too much, then I tried to reinstall temporarily to check what I'd missed out in Choru, and couldn't. Your one worked perfectly and I've found that elusive street I've been missing! Thank you thank you thank you! :D

  • thanks very much for the greasemonkey versions of the work.  Kudos all around.
Posted 14 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I can't get these to work.  Can't get greasemonkey to work any more either thanks to updated ff so looks like I am just plain out of luck.

EDIT: Got it working and it is wonderful!  Thank you so much!  It really is better to be able to check it location by location instead of all at once too.  Makes it a lot faster.

  • Thanks. I enjoy this one better than the other script I was using because I can check each area individually and cancel if need be.

  • Awesome, I hope TinySpeck implements some sort of filter like this one thats included, atleast for achievements..

  • Wow, I don't really understand how it did what it did, but my mind is kind of blown.

  • You are a Giant among men... keep up the good work! I had never heard of bookmarklets until now but I am in love.
Posted 14 months ago by Ryft Subscriber! | Permalink
  • This is odd... I installed the old Greasemonkey script for locations a while back, and it mystically changed to the new "check locations" interface.  I like.

  • Awesome work, Waihopai and Grampa Joe!

Question, though - is it possible to merge the design of Grampa Joe's/Waihopai's script (the "check area" functionality) with the more in-depth functionality of the previous script (being able to check for various types of objects/vendors/etc)?

That's my dream script.  It would make me glitchgasm pretty hard.

  • Leimailu, it's definitely possible. When I have time, I'll add that.

I'm also going to be making the (much cleaner and more readable) source code for these available soon, along with any future tools. Lots of things to do!

  • Hey,
For some reason it greys out achievements that i do have - specifically 1 star-cuisinartist but 2 star-cuisinartist is illuminated! they are the immediately noticeable ones but there maybe others.

Is there also any way to arrange in catagories / sections - like Saucepan >>> Frying pan >>>> so you know at a glance where you are up to etc

    Awesome work guys!
Posted 14 months ago by Balgra Fonzarelli Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Balgra, that's how it works! I thought it'd be better if the ones you have are grey'd out, since you don't need to worry about them anymore. It can be done differently, though, if that's not intuitive.

Sorting achievements is something I'm working on. I can group them together pretty well based on their descriptions; but that's all I have to go on, so it won't be perfect.

I appreciate all the suggestions and feedback! As free time allows, you should see some of this stuff happen soon.
