So.. whats all this nonsense about reset?

I've read that there was a possibility of a reset since Glitch is in 'Beta' ..again. This would make sense to me, since on the page where you purchase currants/subscriptions it says that once the game relaunches you will receive your purchases x more (which only would be logical if it happened after a reset)

What I'm REALLY asking for is any sort of TS documentation that says anything about this new 'beta' which I still don't get or anything saying anything about a possible reset.

    and...
some more explication in an interview with stoot: http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/02/mmobility-tiny-speck-explains-glitchs-big-unlaunching/

  • There's going to be a reset in one week, and you will lose all of your stuff, and Stoot is going to personally come to your house and take all your valuables.

  • Well, considering what they've been talking about doing - like eliminating XP and levels - I would think a reset is inevitable, no matter what they say.
Posted 11 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It really depends on what you mean by "reset."

I think TS will do everything possible to avoid having everyone start again "from scratch." You'll keep your badges and your skills and your friends. You'll keep your currants. Your current game level will probably be translated into some quantity of "imagination" in the bank, as it were.

You'll have to "move" house (whatever that winds up meaning in the new system).

Will it be disruptive and annoying and frustrating?  Possibly, depending on how easy you are to annoy. But if it resolves some of the long-standing structural issues and opens new avenues for imaginative play, it'll be well worth it.

  • a reset could be fun

  • I think they should just reset those who support a reset then, let everyone else carry on having fun, cause I am not one of those who is willing to start over after months of time spent building up.

    reset = goodbye

  • I will also say goodbye if there's a reset, but basically only if there's a skills reset. I will not spend months regaining the skills I need to get enjoyment from the game.

That said, I also got the impression that a reset would be the very last resort so I'm not overly concerned.

  • Personally I do not want to start from scratch YET AGAIN. I do like this game a lot but there is only so much spinning in circles one person can take. Glitch is a bit of my guilty pleasure anyway since life is so busy, so if and when I play I would like to at least feel some sort of sense of darn achievement. Spinning around in circles makes me dizzy...and bored quiet frankly. If we have a reset then it will simply say to me that the people behind this game have little idea of what the heck they are doing and who says it won't happen again...and again...and again. De Ja Glitch? No thanks.
Perhaps they shouldn't have called this game Glitch...you jinxed it. Bad Juju I tell you;)

  • Note: In the interview with MMObility, stoot said the following: "A reset is super unlikely; there's no real reason we would have to do it."
Posted 11 months ago by Millie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Those who have said they want a reset are free to issue an invite to an alternative email address, set up their new 'reset' account, then go to the configuration page for their current account and click 'delete this account.'

    IOW: speak for yourself.

  • oh-ho

was anyone claiming to speak for anyone other than themselves?

I believe it's called "having an opinion"
Posted 11 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And the opinion expressed was "sounds great. Lets have a reset on you all!"

People always are at liberty to reset themselves. And I am entitled to have an opinion about those who would like to see everybody reset.

    Thats just how it works.

  • Have you never played a jigsaw puzzle? Spending hours or days to do it with friends sharing stories and time or just alone relaxing and getting away from RL hassles for a time? Let face it,..it really is a waste of time, most entertainment is. So...if you had fun doing it once,....I'm finding it hard to see why it would be so devastating if there were a reset.
Of course you already realize none of what you have in glitch exists. It is virtual and while it is there it really doesn't exist. I would think it would be worse if they made us all level 60 and gave us everything.
Please keep in mind,..they are trying to do the best they can for us all, second it is a game...not a nuclear bomb, if you leave you disappoint many of the friends you have made here, and last but not least, your ability to achieve your current level, position and game play may be greatly enhanced by a restart. I do not say any of this to flame or troll or the like i just hope you realize if a reset is needed,...it will be just that,...needed and we can be miserable now and until and after if it happens fretting and worrying,...or we can smile and look forward and if it happens we will all have so much more fun, work more efficient and play, play, play!!! I hope this has found you well and makes your thoughts on reset a little more easy to handle.

  • Just that Yves...it's nonsense right now.  I'd wait to see what else TS has to say rather than listening to rumors being passed by players that are just trying to freak people out.  The links to what TS staff has already said are good ones to check out, if you haven't already.  TS tries to be rather transparent with their players, which is good...if they are going to do something, they will tell us.

I'm curious about this comment though "Well, considering what they've been talking about doing - like eliminating XP and levels " - where has TS been talking about this?  Granted, I don't visit the forums much anymore since most threads tend to spiral down into a flame war of one version or another, but I've seen no mention of this here or in the blogs.  Until I see something here posted by one of the TS folks, I don't really believe it. Can you point me to a good staffer post where I can read up on this, because I must have missed it?! Thanks!

And for those freaking out over resets...if it happens (as remote of an option as it might be) it really isn't that bad.  Been through them in late alpha and beta1.  Went through the big one before the first launch...other than some time to regain skills, the knowledge you currently have to employ will get you back to where you currently are very quickly...and you get to change some things that maybe you didn't want to do in the first place...so you can make improvements to your current situation.  It's probably also why so many have those 'evil' alt accounts...it's fun to start over and do things differently, smarter, better. I'd wait to see if it even has to happen before making threats of never returning...try it (if it happens at all), you might like it, and if you don't, well, then you can let them know why you left.  But don't put the cart before the horse. No need for drama for something that may never even happen.

  • While I am not too worried about a reset in general, there is one thing I would absolutely hate to have to do over, and that is re-learning all those skills *yet again* ~ I would really. hate. that.

  • b3achy, the level thing is something stoot talks about in the Massively interview linked above.

  • Instead of quoting some person's interpretation of what stoot said, you'll find that TS official blog post on the subject and the official staff forum thread contain more accurate information.
Posted 11 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Stoot has said that he would like to transform the (somewhat blunt) concept of XP into something spendable, in the same way that currents are spendable.  Thus, rather than just grinding at things for XP in various ways, you would earn both currants (money) and 'imagination' (his term).  You would spend currants much the way you do now, and you could spend imagination on a whole new class of things, such as buffs for your character or your environment.

IMO that's a pretty significant change - it would touch almost everything in the game.

Personally I would like to see skills get a bit harder to learn.   The current system rewards you for just being - no challenge in that.

  • Thanks for the pointer to the interview...I must have missed (or forgotten) that point when I listened to it.  Of course, there is stoot saying things in interviews as he's imagining the future of the game, and there is things actually getting changed in reality - just saying it's easier to talk about things than actually implementing them at times - not to say they can't or won't, but you have to be able to discern between discussion/spitballing/theorizing, and actual outcome/changes/implementation.  However, will stay tuned to this XP/level aspect (and wait for how it actually gets implemented) now that it was pointed out to me - thanks!  And yes, would agree that if that idea actually was implemented, it would be one of those major changes to the game that I had expected to start seeing starting in Dec, but maybe they were waiting for the New Year before they rock our world.

  • I wouldn't mind a reset if it's because there is a substantially different way of leveling or something like that.  But I really have no interest in going from 1 to 60 again and waiting for my skills to learn, and earning badges.  If it was just a reset I'd probably stop playing because it would just be so much of doing the same thing over again.

  • If there has to be a reset, please let me complete all my giant icons first! LOL.

I would seriously consider quitting, though, if there was a reset. I like being a high level and having lots of energy to do things.

  • Hmmm, it is possible that it will be something along the lines of a partial reset. I think at least that much is inevitable given how seriously the core mechanics are going to be changed. '

But what they could do is make it so that all our experience and currants are converted into this new "imagination" commodity which we can then use to build our new incarnation. That way our hard earned progress doesn't just vanish into thin air and it allows for the rather massive overhaul of the core mechanics they have been talking about.

I think one thing that might be likely, given this games pacing, is that the new system will have a slower character progression to it. For this style of game, your character develops and maxes out very rapidly in Glitch. I mean in some games maxing every skill will take literally half a decade or so which I think is ridiculously slow, but in contrast people are maxing their characters here in like a month and a half for the faster players and maybe 4 months for the more casual gamers.

This leaves people with the problem of running out of stuff to work towards. Although Glitch is sort of different than most of the classic MMOs in that it is a very social game. It's almost a bit like second life or other purely social games so by the time you have maxed out everything its likely you are pretty much just hanging out and chatting with the new people you met most of the time anyway.

It's just my guess. Who knows what will really happen. Maybe Stoot... maybe.

  • after the reset, glitch will be different and much better. glitch was unlaunched because it will change a lot, isn't that exiting?

we don't know if there's going to be a reset or no but those changes - exp to imagination - sound like a big change and probably it would be easier to just reset it than changing the exp to imagination. if there's no reset, oh well, I'm not level 60 yet and like someone else said here I'm free to make a new account :D
