Spent a lot for nothing buying cameras?

Apparently TS decided to play a nasty trick on us all. Taking away the cameras from the toy vendors, leading us to believe they would become no longer available after the snap upgrade.

I am sure I am not the only one that spent  thousands of currants acquiring an extra camera.

What is the deal on putting the cameras available again at the Toy vendors?

  • I don't know how they "led us to believe" any such thing.  The tweet said only "Don't throw those cameras away though …" which is not the same as "Cameras are now retired" or "Congratulations on owning an antique" or anything like that.

  • They did remove them from the Toy Vendors after the upgrade for snaps came into effect.

  • I read the update differently. I saw "Don't throw those cameras away though..." as meaning that we would probably want/need them in the future. Just not right now. And if we did need them in the future, I figured more would be made available. You saw it and thought, "woot! rares to be had!"

We were speculating. You speculated that you could make millions off of a rare item one day. I speculated that it wouldn't become rare. The thing with speculating is that it's gambling. You are betting some currants now in the hopes that it'll be worth more some day. Gambling pays off as it does because of the inherent risk... you win some, you lose some.

If you had been right, you'd have been a happy panda and I'd have been the sad one.

I know you're bummed, but you weren't tricked. You just took the wrong bet. And that sucks. Here's to your next one being better and, that in your life, you win more than you lose :)

  • I was hoping for a new and nicer looking camera...
I too thought Stoots remark meant that cameras were no longer *needed, but that we should hang on to them, just incase they do become useful again...
*but I do feel just a little 'mislead' by TS, because by removing the cameras from vendors, they did inadvertently create the illusion, cameras had indeed been retired/taken out of the game.

  • Yeah I wasted like 100k but oh well....I misjudged this gamble.... +1 to Vera :)

  • Ooooh!  Buy the rares!  Collect 'em all!

Hasn't everybody figured out, especially in the things the 'rare item vendor' was selling not that long ago, that T.S. enjoys poking fun at obsessive collectors?  I mean, the 'rares' were broken/defective/knockoff items, and self-congratulatory Million Currant Trophies.

Ambiguity has always been a part of how the game is communicated to the players.  With completionists and spreadsheet wielding reverse-engineers (*cough* 'economists') scurrying along to keep up.

  • Hey! Don't call me an economist just because I love my glitch spreadsheets, jerk! ~*fuming*~

  • I had already owned two cameras, so when Stoot posted that we no longer needed them, but to hang on to them, I stuffed my two in an sdb.

I didnt rush out to sell them. I didnt rush out to buy more. I figure, if they turn out rare, great, Ive got two. If they turn out to be useful again someday, thats great too.

Why anyone would rush out to buy them all at such crazy prices is beyond me.

But I agree with what Vera said. Its a gamble. And apparently you lost.

  • ah hahahaha I *TOLD* everyone they would be used/needed for something else. And someone else kept pointing out that we get cameras from an upgrade card, so of course we don't need to vendor purchase them anymore. oh man, my sides hurt. Why would TS tell you not to throw something away just so it could be a rare item? They didn't tell people not to throw away the old potions. They made a POINT of saying something this time. No one mislead you except yourself.

  • Question: Spent a lot for nothing buying cameras?
    Answer: Yes.

    Also, what Vera Strange said.

  • Vera Strange -- you really couldn't have said that any better. I wish that our leaders (political, corporate, otherwise) understood this as well as you.

  • Wait, what do cameras do??
Posted 81 days ago by Sororia Rose Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Cameras do what cameras do. (Allow you to) Take (and save) pictures. What else?

  • But are they selling at vendors again? Why are they not 'rare' anymore?
Posted 81 days ago by Sororia Rose Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It makes for a good story, though. Someone had told me that cameras are now considered rare items so I was surprised to find them being sold at the vendor when I went to buy a party pack.

I really don't use my currants for much of anything beside tithing to my icons. So I bought 20 of them and stuffed them in a crab SDB in my tower.  Not to sell. Just to look at and think 'I now own 20 of something that was almost rare once'.

  • Cameras are one of the things I sell in my tower at below list. Hadn't sold one in a month. Suddenly they are all gone. Bummer. Wait, they're at the vendor again. Cool. So I bought a couple and put them back on sale. Whatevahs.

  • Like Serenity's Mommy, I had two cameras -- and I still do. I, too, inferred that there was reason (beyond the collectors' market) to hold onto at least one of them. I kept both, I guess, because I'm a hoarder by nature! As enjoyable as I find the trading aspect of Glitch, it's been getting a little out of hand with the advent of the towers. Witness the yellow crumb phenom. Some "players" don't seem to be taking advantage of the other aspects of this wonderful game; instead of nibbling a few piggies or harvesting a few trees, they want to buy (or, worse, beg) commodities. I like to get out into the world of Ur and do what everyone used to do: pet, water, squeeze and nibble my way across the land, donating to shrines and pursuing the occasional quest or odd achievement as I go. It gives one such a feeling of accomplishment!

  • I know we can take snaps without actually having the camera on us, as long as we have the upgrades,
but can the camera be used to take basic snaps, even if a player does not have any of the upgrades yet?
If yes, then shouldn't cameras always be available in game, so newbies can take snaps of
    their memorable moments too?
