Glitch already have scammers/stealers

I liked, well and still do, Glitch because it seemed  that everyone are so polite, nice and most important honest players. Comparing to another game I used to play this was completely different environment. I had to deal with a lot of scammers, underaged players and rude people in anoher game, so coming to Glitch was great discover for me.
Unfortunatly today while experimenting in pubilc with block making parts some guy kept coming and using my machine, taking parts and put them back. I wasn't paying attention on my energy so i died and left machine with all parts in Cebarkul. I fastly squished grapes from hell and came back to where my machine is.
As soon as he saw me, he ran away with one part of machine while another guy told him not to touch machine because it doesn't belong to him. I tried to IM this person but he blocked me.
I'm aware that is my fault for trying out machine in public but i relied on honesty of other players.

I still remember my first days in Glitch, when I didn't have tinkering skill and I could give it to another player to fix it for me without thinking 'will i be scammed?' It took me some time to adapt to rightness of other glitchians 'cause the game I coming from this was unimaginable.

I really hope what happened to me was just an exception that proves the rule and that Glitch with big income of players wont turn into goal- justife- whatever- methods- we- use game.

Please excuse my bad grammar as English isn't my home language but I tried my best.

Name of this person is [name removed] and I don't care if posting names is against the rules because this person deserves to be exposed and you will be aware with who you are dealing with.

  • Did you report him as well? Not sure TS will do anything but never hurts to try anyway!

  • You don't care if posting names is against the rules?
In that case,  as far as I'm concerned, your disregard for the guidelines makes you as bad as someone elses disregard for your property.

  • If you deliberately break the rules, you are likely to get in trouble.  It doesn't matter whether you feel that you are right:  you know what the rules are and you do not follow them.

  • @ Casombra
I didn't know we can report players but anyway i doubt staff can do anything about it because it was 'legit' stealing. He took machine part from ground, and all things that are found on ground are free to use.
    @ Ebil
I don't see how posting someones name who is disgrace for Glitch community is a bad thing.

  • Sorry spark that this happened to you. I hope you can take some comfort in that 99% of players wouldn't do this. (okay, I'm guessing at the 99%, but I'm sure there's alot of players out there who sympathise with you).
I realise you must feel very upset and angry, but even so its never good to call out names in forums. It is good to send in a report. Even if there is some uncertainty about how he/she picked up the machine parts and whether it was 'legitimate' or not, the circumstances are something Tiny Speck needs to know about. Perhaps they need to look at the problem of what happens with machine parts if the owner 'dies'. They can certainly keep a sharper watch on the player you mention and maybe investigate further.

I'm glad it sounds like you enjoy the game , please don't let one negative experience put you off. Sounds like you need to watch those calories! (says Twoodle who has gone to Hell a few times recently having forgotten to watch those energy levels - doh!).

  • ☆Spark☆, it is not against the Community Guidelines to take any item that happens to be in a public place without further haranguing or abusive interaction, though it can clearly be upsetting to the person who finds their stuff taken.

Consider that these kinds of situations are even less like someone taking your wallet when you leave it on a table in a crowded restaurant, because no one particular item in the game can be clearly identified as *yours* once it is dropped in a public area. Also, whereas stealing wallets is clearly against the law, picking up items distributed across the world is a fundamental part of the game. We will not (and hopefully neither should you) assume malicious intent for something that is permissible gameplay unless it is clear by either the frequency of the interaction or by words accompanying it that they are purposefully trying to be a jerk.

However, it is very much against the guidelines and spirit of Glitch to single out any particular player for shaming in the Forums or public chat channels in this game, which is why I removed the name you included in the original post. All that being said, I can understand your frustration here, and sincerely hope that you recover what you lost as quickly as possible.

  • Spark:

The way to report players is to click on their name in the chat window.  One of your options is to Report Abuse.  Use that link to send a report to staff about the behavior that you think is not appropriate.

I don't see how posting someones name who is disgrace for Glitch community is a bad thing.
The simplest answer is:  It is against the rules of Glitch to do that.  You will get in trouble if you break the rules.  Here is the rule:

But calling out another player in the forums or public channels and organizing people to bully them is itself a kind of harassment and will be moderated as such.

  • Since Cebarkul is a crowded area, it wouldn't be advisable to just drop all your stuff on the ground there anyway.

  • The reason calling someone out is wrong is that it is punishment without proof.  Having been a victim of this on several occasions in other venues, I know how hurtful it can be.  Just because you say this person did something doesn't mean it happened, and it doesn't mean it happened the way you described it, either.  I'm not defending bad behavior, but pointing why there are right and wrong ways of dealing with it.

  • Blanky, I realise that anything found on the ground belong to anyone who first finds it, that's why i didn't bother reporting. But this person watched me while i lay my things on the ground, interacted with them and saw my grave stone right on machine. And as soon as he saw me coming back from hell he ran away. Maybe he thought that I'm devil's messenger and ran haha.
Anyway we didn't talk at all but he blocked me so I couldn't IM him. That says all about his intentions.
I'm sorry for not following the guidelines but i strongly believed, and still do that I'm doing the right thing. However I won't post names anymore whatever I believe is right.
    @Twoodle
I only had oaty cakes which contain a lot of sugar and my Glitch was on veggie diet. :D

  • That reminds me of back when I used to drink a lot, I went to a bar and lost my wallet.  I go back to the bar the next day and they said they found it, so I was happy.  Unfortunately, the asshole who originally found it took all the money out of the wallet that I had, which was $5.  Can you believe some asshole took someones elses last $5?  Sad!

  • In fact, the other day when I was at Cebarkul, someone had started a "find a penny, leave a penny"  program, where you might take something but should leave something in return.  There was a wide range of things left there for the taking. It's a long shot, especially since the person didn't respond to you, but given that history Cebarkul is like THEE worst place to drop anything on the ground.  It's like wearing an open backpack on that bus that goes from the train station to the Vatican in Rome.

  • It happens. You never know what was going on in the mind of that Glitch. Although I do find it odd that they blocked you. What goes around comes around and if their intentions were bad then karma will return the favor.
Just keep on Glitching because there are good Glitches.

(I feel like this is a Wizard of Oz moment and I should say are you a good Glitch or a bad Gltich?)

  • When I  *lose* items in secondlife and an honest person finds them there is a way for them to identify the owner and  return them if they choose to do so.

"Consider that these kinds of situations are even less like someone taking your wallet when you leave it on a table in a crowded restaurant, because no one particular item in the game can be clearly identified as *yours* once it is dropped in a public area."

Since you can label your bags cubical cases and such with your name, at the very least I'd like to see a way of  being able to label all your belongings if you choose.

I suppose spark was trying to assemble the blockmaker in public with the help of a friend (rather than have the friend go to his house to do it).   I'm very reluctant to ever put anything on the ground in public because in the past someone has always grabbed it.  Sometimes I come across a new player and would like to give them a bag but if it involves re arranging my bags in public and/or putting something on the ground temporarily I won't do it.

  • serra:  the person who turned your wallet in might not have been the same person who removed your money from it.

  • And I wouldn't mind paying a five dollar reward to someone for returning a wallet with all my id and other important papers.

*Taking* the five dollar reward was a bit tactless.

  • I couldn't help but notice these notes littered around popular places in Ur advertising a "community bank" for Glitch with a link included.

    www.wix.com/firstbankofur/g...

Now, I know level doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot but coming from someone who is a Level 7 and apparently just made an account for the purpose of establishing this "bank" makes me go...hrmmmm.  I've been playing for a couple days now.  That's like me suddenly announcing that I'd like you all to give me your money and giving you ZERO details as to how I'm going to be accumulating interest.

The "bank" owner claims guaranteed interest rates weekly.  Now, I don't know about you guys but I used to play Second Life a lot and I've seen enough virtual Ponzi schemes to be able to see where this is going...

  • Drop stuff only in your own house and don't hand over currants to players you don't know unless you do not expect them back.

  • I should maybe stick this in a new ideas forum post, but I would like seeing machine dissembling be a bit more like poison, with a publically visible action bar that other people, maybe just the owner of the machine, could somehow have a chance to interrupt a la antidote.

  • Just assume everyone is a thief. Solves a lot of problems. And as for the bank thing, heh... Yeah, all you need to know about player run banks you can learn by reading about them in SL and EVE... :)
