I declare a ban on auctioned 'Hog tied piggies'.

Considering the fact that pigs are being kidnapped nearly for free- then sold back to the same people trying to keep them on the streets-  I will no longer be purchasing hog tied piggies in auctions.

I suggest others stop purchasing them as well. They are lower in price because they have been taken from public areas that need them.

  • you realise there are plenty of us selling our own hog-tied piggies, right? i've pignapped three pigs to finish one of the AK quests (one of which lives with me to this day, two of which were left at an old apartment for someone else), and every pig i've ever auctioned has been raised from an egg by yours truly.

  • I wonder if having an "origin" stamp for each piggy created would help resolve some of this.  People could see where a piggy originated.  Maybe who created it? Then you can see if the person selling a hog-tied piggy was the one who raised that piggy, or if they are selling a piggy raised by someone else.  Not a foolproof solution, but it cuts down on quite a bit of the uncertainty.

Then piggies that lived on public streets can be labelled/have their label overwritten with "public" or something and that lets people know if that piggy came from the streets.

  • Those poor piggies in auction. They have no say!! They want to be bacon asap.
Posted 14 months ago by Eye Wonder Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @VorpalCheese i really like that idea! though i've captured and auctioned pigs from my friends' yards before, when they needed a little cash but had no animal skills or bait. but still, i think your proposal would cut down on a lot of what people are complaining about.

  • Many of the people selling piggies they capture from the public streets do not have a level of Animal Husbandry that allows them to rename the piggies.  One creative change that could be made would be for the names of the piggies to be included as part of the auction listing.  Then people could identify piggies that they have named that were nabbed off the street and put up for auction.  It would allow people to positively identify the seller and link them to the piggies they nab.  At present buyers only find out the names of the piggies they buy at the auction after the sale.

  • A solution could be that there should be a way we can "brand" the piggie. Once branded it cannot be sold by anyone but the owner that hatched and raised that piggie period. I think any piggies that are hogtied should be either released back on the street (if your doing the quest) or use the piggie in your home (but still can't sell it) OR the only pigs that can be sold at auction are the just hatched piglets.

  • "... the only pigs that can be sold at auction are the just hatched piglets."

    I like that idea.

  • That doesn't help much if you are moving between houses.  Piggies don't have a "set free" option like butterflies and chickens and carrying them all out to different streets so they're not overcrowded is a lot of time and work.
Posted 14 months ago by Lucille Ball Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ Lucille Ball well then there is the other option we should have that you can have the "set free" option as well, but I think maybe we need to ask TS if they can just remove the ability of selling the adult piggies and leave only the hatched piggies to be sold.  That should stop the piggie nappers.

I too am seeing less and less piggies in the wild and in neighborhoods where the residents are trying to add piggies to the neighborhoods to only turn around in a short while and find they are GONE. Today I was doing some exploring around to do the achievements of areas and I was running across street after street of no piggies in sight... loaded with butterflies and chickens but NO piggies! I needed meat as I was also trying to finish achievements in the different forms of cooking and found it very difficult to find piggies in some areas.

  • I think the word you want is 'boycott', not ban.

I don't buy hog tied piggies anymore either, because the only really good reason to buy them ever anyway was to feed their cute little porky faces to my local shrine. :D

  • @Casombra Amberrose It likely won't, since they can still steal them for their own personal use at home (I did this with the pigs I had to capture for a quest). The only solutions to effectively curb pignapping are to A) raise the price of bait or B) the branding/origin stamp solution proposed above. Both of those things, especially the latter, will stop people from pignapping to sell at auction. What you're proposing also keeps honest people from being able to sell at auction.

ETA: I also might pay extra for a full grown pig if I was too lazy to raise one myself/didn't have the crops (I live in the firebogs so I generally don't have crops at all), but didn't WANT to steal one from the street. Take away the ability to sell them at auction, suddenly 'napping looks pretty good to lazy people. The origin stamp idea encourages people to buy pigs that have been raised by someone else, and not 'napped.

  • I will continue to buy em of the AH I don't really care where they come from.
I will continue to use the AH for moving my piggies from one house to another I don't like a set free option since that's how I lost some other animals.
I have no trouble finding piggies at al on the roads.

  • Yeah, i like the idea of only 'hatched piggies' can be sold to Auction. I hope they do something about this.
Posted 14 months ago by Tumahura Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Agree that the idea of only auctioning hatched piggies is probably the best for the game, but the fundamental issue is that there's a game dynamic here that needs to be addressed. We're running short of piggies in may of the common areas because they're being pignapped for auction.

I suggest a change to the game: Rather than hatch piggies from eggs, why not learn a skill that allows you to get a baby piggie from a full grown one? That way, the paucity of parental piggies could be prevented while proliferating petite piggies.

  • I like the branding option too but how about piggy papers? When you hatch and grow a piggy you receive papers for that piggy (a new option on the piggy that says view papers that shows origin and last location) and papers would be viewable on the auction.

  • We already established in the other thread that new pigs can respawn after others are captured to maintain pig populations on main streets.  (http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/9751/page3/ Blanky post)

So stop the QQ about pig-nappers.  The lower price at auction is solely because they removed the ability to sell to vendors at 350c.  So the only constraint on hogtied piggy prices is the cost of bait.  Other than that, the market will fluctuate based on supply and demand.

  • The solution is for people to continue to produce piggies and contribute them to the public space.  It gives well-off players (like myself and many others participating in this discussion) an outlet for our excess resources besides throwing our currants at cubimals and party packs.  It gives new players an opportunity to nab a piggie or two when they are setting up their first house.  And, at present, it gives people who want to make their living by snatching piggies and putting them up for auction the opportunity to make themselves known to the community.  There's no way to auction pigs anonymously, and people who are willing to be known as the person who always seems to have 10 piggies up for auction should be free to gain that reputation with their fellow players.

All in all, the way things are now is pretty good.  It was bad when people could anonymously nab the piggies and just drop them down the memory hole by donating them or selling them to a vendor.  It isn't so bad now.  Everybody occasionally may have the need or desire to sell off a few excess pigs, i.e. when moving to a new house, etc.  It's a good thing for us to be able to identify those who are grabbing piggies off the street over and over and over again.  It helps us adjust how we want to play with said fellow glitchies.

This is a self-regulating community based game.  I wouldn't want there ever to not be a way for players to tarnish or burnish their reputations with their fellow glitchies.  We don't need more rules than the absolute minimum necessary.  Let peer pressure do the enforcing.

  • ^ Parrow said. I agree with it. Things are fine now with the vendors and giants not accepting pigs anymore.

  • Just so you know, there seems to be a gang of pignappers around which store the captured piggies in underground cave in the ancestral lands. If you wonder where all the pigs have gone, check there!

  • Perhaps what you guys don't realize, or maybe  forget, is that there are Glitch groups out there that consider it their main aim to create "chaos" on the streets and among other "destructive" things kidnap piggies. Am sure a lot of you will think destructive is a strong word but in this game a lack of trees, because they are poisoned for the fun of it, animals, or any other objects to me is in fact destructive and really pointless. I don't get why anybody finds it entertaining to do mischief just for the heck of it. I don't find destruction to be the real spirit of this game. Perhaps we should all also read more carefully ( which I try to do) what a group is about before joining it.
And another thing to all those who set up groups and consider themselves "rulers" and the rest of us their "loyal subjects" you can kiss me in my currant....

  • Question: If you wanted to put piggies in your garden, is there a reason (and there may be one I'm not aware of) why it would be better to buy a piglet or a pig egg, than a hogtied piggy?

I've been hatching piglets and selling them at auction recently, but right now the hogtied piggies are way cheaper, and I'm not sure why anyone would by my piglets instead...

    Hoping to be enlightened!

  • I like the idea of not being able to sell hog tied piggies from the street on auction. Those of us who can actually make the piglets have a tough enough market. :(

  • 1) Where are all you people looking for piggies? 2) Seriously this pig nonsense is getting hella old. 3) I poison trees just for fun sometimes because THERE IS A BADGE for chopping down trees. And then I dig the hole because THERE IS A BADGE for digging holes and dirt piles. Also a badge for tending said patches. So in one fell swoop I get progress towards 3 different badges. 4) So just stop assuming everyone is trying to grief you. 5) K. Thx.

  • I agree, but to be honest, I've only sold piggies from areas that had like 4 or 5 of them, when I couldn't bring them to other areas.
But I will join your ban. Just put piglets in the areas without pigs.
Posted 14 months ago by Lela Naomi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Solution: just buy piglets. Get the market on hog-tied pigs to collapse. You can't steal a piggy egg from the commons.

  • Thanks to all the replies! It's obvious that there's a lot of debate on this. However, my main concern is-  that if people are continually putting out piggies on streets- and those piggies are disappearing quickly (and efficiently) every single time.. people will get sick of it.

I do agree that moving them from your house is a wonderful ability tied to this skill. I know that novices need to capture pigs for a badge.. but when you start seeing hog tied piggies at 150 c each (almost half the cost of a pig egg) versus a piglet which might be 320-370c- there's a bit of a problem.

  • Cant seem to keep more than 2 piggies on our street. No sooner than I or someone else adds a few more they vanish, seems pointless trying :(

  • Personally, I think the mischeif-makers make the game more fun for those of us who like to mobilize to thwart their evil schemes!  Gosh, how boring this game could get without a little friendly conflict to liven things up.

  • The more people that write the creators of the ame the more likely there will be changes this no  more full grown pigs at auctions, option to move pigs, chickens and butterflys (as well as trees )with you to your new home...No more tree poisoning nor reasons to poison them..And new patches you are provided or your teleported to when you need a tending tree quest..The problems can be solved easily but the creators dont seem to want to put the solutions there..Write to them...Cause posting on here is basically just bit...ing..They have a vested interest in keeping the majority of the members happy and will change things of they feel the current system will drive away subscribers..They seem to be too busy prettying up the game to handle issues that if they continue will drive players away...Until then all public pigs are free to grab and auction and its perfectly within the rules...oh and as to see who is selling them..Keep in mind people can just have more than one account and use the second acount to sell pigs..once the reputation of that account is history they can just start another..

  • @Me, Myself and I - they ruined home farming for pigs, now you want to ruin home trees too? Because the staff here can't seperate what happens in our homes from what happens in the open streets, so that is what will happen if tree poisoning is removed from the game. Why not instead of trying to remove stuff like donating/napping/selling pigs and tree poison, you focus on having them seperate out homes from open streets. Because honestly, while i think you are the vocal minority, i do think you are a minority - or else us pig nappers/abandoners wouldn't be such a threat.

  • Well, you forgot to think about soem helpful used of hog Tight pigs.

Once I was in Ajaya bliss and someone started to drop pigs everywhere.

But pig where trully unhappy there, they surelly should die there if people didn't started to grab them and put them on auction.

Remembering, AB needs a key that has a hight coast, so people go there fullfilled with food and beverages to stay there until get theyir bags full and such.

Or people dumping pigs in caves, where they die. Put this pigs on auction is the only way to save them.
