SDB naming?

It would be soooooo helpful if we could name the SDBs. In the Tower stores especially. You would be able to tell just at a glance what item has sold out and need to be restocked. As it is right now,  I collect 10k currants from a box but have no idea what used to be in there ( for those of us with a large quantity of different items up for sale) Could be the effects of being old and/or having bad memory! pifff am not telling which one I got!

So TS please give us store keepers the ability to name our  SDBs like we can name our bags.

  • Oh that's a good idea.  I hadn't even considered that I might sell out of anything!

  • It is annoying for me. I keep wondering, what was in that box, or that one!..lol

  • Or maybe allow specifying a minimum quantity to not go below. That way, you could set the minimum to 1 and you could always see what was supposed to go there. (Sort of like a card in the store behind all the items for restocking.)

  • +1 to the OPs idea and to Janitch's suggestion!

  • @ janitch, that is fine if you are selling low price items, but lets say you are trying to sell cubimals amongst the hundreds of different items in your store, rare cubimals selling in the range of 200-300k each, that would mean you have to always have 1 in the SDB. It would get to be an expensive display at that point.
Naming the SDB like we are able to name our bags, to me seems much easier

  • If this doesn't get implemented, maybe take snaps of your stock for reference.

  • +1 to having an option to keep at least one of an item in the SDB.

  • +1 for naming SDBs.
That way when you are standing in front of a bunch of SDBs (so that multiple are highlighted) and try to use the keyboard to select one, you know which one you are choosing.

  • yes that happened to me a few times too! i took a snap of the full wall with everything restocked to help me remember!

  • Or utilize the note pole! :)
Note pole could be placed below of beside the SDB. Title could be the item and on the note itself you could write "please leave a message with my butler, if you would like me to restock" or something to that effect :)

  • Note poles not very effective if you have 20- 30 SDB on each Floor, like I do...no place to put them so not to interfere with the SDB vision. What can I say, I like my stuff  to be stuffed in SDBs. Also note poles are very time consuming to write everything down or if you decide to change things around then you have to edit your note pole also....whereas having each SDBs given a name would take care of all that, even if you move the SDB around on the wall or even on a seperate floor, it would still have the same name on it for a certain item.. Like naming your bags..easy as pies.

  • +1  I was thinking of this earlier today. Much easier to restock and easier to let people know what will be there in the future :)

  • Or allow you to lock in the last item, so that it can't be sold.
Posted 5 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Jea, this is a great idea. Are you thinking of something along the lines of a caption? Like you could hover over it and see? Or an actual label over it like the price tag?
Posted 5 months ago by CoffeeSnob Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Say.. this is a great idea, even if you aren't selling from your sdb! I usually remove all but one of an item so I can remember what goes there.. so names would be awesome!

  • I concur. OP is a beast!
Posted 5 months ago by Doomedcow Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If not names, what about a faded/grayscale image of what used to occupy the box? It could only trigger if the last item was sold out, not removed by hand by the owner.

Though count me in support of names anyhow- it's a feature I'd use.

  •  Coffeesnob, no not a caption since that would take away from visual space of the SDB and item.
I was thinking more along same idea as what we have with the bags. Simple but effective.

Oh and Wrench that is a great idea also about grey fading of what used to be in the SDB.!!

  • A possible solution for now would be to put signs listing what is where, or keeping a paper on a table that informs you what items go in which SDBs.

  • Just take a photo with the camera when you have stock of all your items. its also great if you publish it so people dont need to travel to your tower to see your prices.
Posted 5 months ago by dannymanno Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ sacre - Has I explained earlier, putting sign posts is really not practical at all and very time consuming,  especially for keeping track of cubimals, stock available changes every day and  also because many of us have no space in our tower for signs since we mainly use them as a store selling many different items,  http://www.glitch.com/snaps/PUVFDC083PE2F30/40675-b6325842a6/

@ danny:  I restock my store 2 sometimes 3 times a day. Taking a photo everytime is also time consuming. plus having to sort through photos to find the one of your last tower stocked items would be waste of time for the glitchens who take a lot of snaps.

Someone suggested giving us the ability to leave 1 item in the SDB not for sale  so we could see what was in it. Again not very practical for expensive stock like rare music boxes or cubimals.

  • What if, instead of adding a label/tag/hover for a name, the SDB kept a faded/ghost image of the last thing sold out of it?

  • cross-posting from a similar thread...

I think the behavior that would make sense to me is this

If you put an item in an sdb, it's image displays until you remove them all provided there is no price on the sdb - ie, the sdb behaves like a 'classic' sdb.

you can't put a selling price on an empty sdb. if you put items in an sdb and then assign a price to the sdb, the price and the image of the item 'lock in'.  if all the items sell, the image displays 'washed out'.   you can add more of the same type of item to make the image display full color again, or you can clear the price to reset the sdb back to it's generic 'classic' state.

you can't clear the price on an sdb if it contains currants to be picked up.

  • I love the idea of naming SDBs. This way I wouldn't accidentally price snails at 5200 because I put the snails in the box for something else and forget to re-price.

  • Yes! I came to suggest this myself, but found this post. TS, please do this. It is so needed by us tower merchants!!!!!

  • Didn't see this thread earlier, here's where I posted my suggestion where I basically came tot he same conclusion about naming SDBs:  http://www.glitch.com/forum/ideas/24636/#reply-258255

  • I came to reiterate my approval of this idea. I spent a long time yesterday making food and finding fair prices for it (hours and hours). Then I got up this morning and most of my food was sold (about 30 different items) which is good but now I have to find prices all over again.

Excellent idea Beans, Obviously. I will take a picture after I fill up the boxes this time. It would be easier if I could name the SDBs or keep a picture of the item in it or any of the very good ideas that people have had.

  • Hi  I think that is a  excellent  Idea, to name  them    I have  been  trying to figure  what  I had  in 2  boxes  and  just  cant  remember  (sucks  cause  it  sold  quick)    So Please   T,S,   give us  a  hand  with  this  one  Thanks  :)

  • People are leaving 1 item in the SDBs so the sellers know what is in it. Problem with that  is : it makes looking through listings on glitchremote or glitchmarket a pain, especially when you have about 20 towers with sdbs containing 1 YCF.
