Great Test! Thanks Devs!

Well that was a fun test. There is really a lot to this game and it just keeps getting better. It's exciting to see the game develop!

Devs good job on performance, the experience was 100x better... get some rest, I'm sure Stoot has more work for all of you ;)

Till the next Glitch window...

  • It was amazingly better. Even on the Rook Egg Quest, which was still laggy, but minimally so. I could actually see where I was jumping that time!

Also much much improvement in areas with lots of people. I used to avoid GFJ like the plague, now I can walk through just fine, if at the cost of seeing dummies.

    Thank you!

  • Yes! Thank You Devs!!! I saw a performance improvement as well, however i probably crashed 10 times or so during this test because i played for so many hours... I think this game is going to force me to upgrade my internet connection and get a more modern computer than a first gen macbook...

  • You're all welcome: it was very gratifying to see that the new system worked so well. As was pointed out elsewhere, there are still some significant improvements in progress and we'll be rolling those out as we finish testing them internally. A slow system really gets in the way of play and we are quadruple-committed to making things faaaaast.

  • Great test. I noticed the improvement on the Rook quest as well; it was substantial. The added arrows for both the second tree in the Rook quest and new chat notifications was a great addition too.

  • I was very pleased to see the progress made between tests, everyone at Tiny Speck are really hitting this out of the park.

Thank you for your work and including me in the tests.

  • Yay! Had so much fun...I played into the wee hours of Saturday morning and was back by lunchtime....totally bog eyed but loved it all. Thanks for the long session and all your hard work:)

  • Thanks for the extra-long session. Choosing to keep the open until this afternoon allowed me to experience so much more Glitch fun, and I can't wait for the next test. I dream of the day when the game switches over to beta and eventually to a full release!

  • I didn't get to play at all on Friday (though right before bed I did set up skills to learn overnight) so I was extra glad that the test was open all Saturday!

  • Had a blast and the longer session was awesome! tyvm for the fun!
Only ran across the one bug during the whole time I played!

  • Though I got my invite at the beginning of the month, this was my first time actually being able to commit enough time, energy, and attention to a computer while game was open - let me just say - *amazing!*

I don't know how much better the performance was than before, of course, but I know the performance was outstanding. Through the whole test I only had 1 flash crash (and that was probably due to Chrome rather than gameplay.) Also, I didn't run across any bugs!

Thanks, Devs, for the great game, and the looong test!!

  • Agreed, great test. Terrific improvement over last session, too. Kudos to the hardworking devs. I got a massive chunk of playing time--enough to get over the throttles of starting from square one--what only 1 meat??!

Few things. Mood did seem to drop faster during this game. I have no empirical evidence, but it seemed like I had to manage it alot more. Was used to managing energy pretty close, but not so much mood.

Couple issues with counting--either mine or the games :-) There was one or 2 quests in which it seemed like the action didn't "count." Others reported examples, so I think there's better data than this.

Last, It was great to have the game extended today. Me, I got stuck and couldn't get back in the game due to some kind of error that locked my account (unable to view profile, friends, skills). I had plenty of gameplay, but wished that I could called for help in the help channel. I reported the bug, but it was really more an error. No slams, I know that devs were hoping for a shorter test so we were lucky for the extension. Thx!

  • Mac Rapalicious - about the mood, that was probably because your mood slot is smaller. When you have a 400 mood slot, for example, you notice it a lot less than a 120 one.

  • This was my third test...one before the wipe and the shorter one a week ago...and you have a total new addict/convert on your hands. I'm one of the big bunch of us who came over when our beloved Faunasphere bit the dust. I am loving Glitch at least as much as I did FS, for different reasons (because such different games in nearly every way), and being allowed to really try it on for so long was fantastic. There's a bit of a competitive element here that FS didn't have but I love that there is still a lot of helping each other out and general goodwill :). The humor, the quests, the skills...all of it just...wow. You guys rock! And um...the measure of the new addiction here: I have not yet slept since game opened (no doubt how I managed to do so well even though pretty darn new tester, lol). Only trouble spots for me: The rook thing was pretty laggy, but I've nothing to compare it against. I reported a bug w/ the cabinet disappearing, and Flash crashed a few times. Oh, and whenever you appear in a new area via the signposts, there's a fair amount of lag/hang time where it's obvious the game is mentally changing gears or whatever. So sometimes I'd be hanging there and have to click elsewhere to be able to move. But I can tell how much smoother things ran even vs. last time overall. I was lucky and off work this Friday but my main problem before was trying to sneak it in at work :P. So thank you, thank you, thank you for the long test!!

  • Thanks devs! So many great changes made this test my favourite ever. It sucks that sniffing butterfly milk now consumes it, but besides that everything is great. I'm just as addicted as I was after my first test!

  • Great to see your hard work paying off. Still a few bugs in there, but the performance was night and day, at least on a fresh load. Things are still slowing down after you've been active in the world for a while, but nothing like previous tests.

Great to have the extended period in the world, so you can really start thinking ahead, rather than thinking short term, what can I do before the test ends.

Look forward to seeing more improvements as things develop. Great job!

  • Thank you for the long session!
I had to work friday so was out :-(
Then errands today...I was soooo pleased to find the game still open!!!

Had a blast...much improved over my last experience!! Moved well, tutorial excellent!
Now if I could just earn enough currants :=(

  • Man, Aldaris, I'm glad you mentioned about the sniffing the butterfly milk. I thought I was going nuts...could not figure out why it was gone. *reminds self this is in fact in a testing/evolving phase, not final product*

  • This was my first test and I've got to say WOW! I really had a great time! There were a few minor things.
I think (judging by the picture) that I was going to learn Easy Cooking I and I had an error message pop up that said "Error: Non-200 HTTP Status:0" but I clicked okay and it went in fine and let me learn.
Then, when trying to learn Teleportation I a message popped up that said "Doesn't meet requirements", but again, when I clicked on okay, it went right away and let me learn.
There were several times when the glitches around me were sketches.
I had Flash crashes once or twice, but simple refresh took care of it.

What I'd like to see? Maybe, when we click on a signpost, that what's in it shows up before we go in. That way, if you're searching for piggies, you don't go to a road that has no piggies on it. Still, not a biggie, because you can just go right back out and pick another road.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the map! That was probably the most useful tool for me. Invaluable!

I have to mention this too... I laughed so hard in several spots! The off beat humor is wonderful... whether it's the Toe Dipper badge talking about "the cute thing you do with your nose" or the lizard playing Farmville on his computer, or the fact that my box dress in on upside-down. I was cracking up!!! I also want to mention the great feeling with having devs etc on board and playing with us. That, to me, shows an emotional investment, and after FS, that's comforting to see. You'd laugh if you saw my desk though... I'm normally not an anal personality, but I take my games seriously (in FS I built a spreadsheet for totem information). And all while I was playing, I had my notecards in front of me, making little reminders etc. My desk was a mess by the time the test was done!

I had a fantastic time, and can see this being the FS refugee permanent landing zone! It's been over a month since I've played anything that kept my interest, but you did it! HOME RUN!!! Thanks so much to the Glitch team for working so hard so we can play hard! :-)

  • Great test and thanks for the extended play (though it did prevent me from actually cleaning my house today as planned). Unfortunately, I only made it in for a few minutes last test, and probably only an hour or so for the previous one - so I didn't have much to compare it to. With the extended time, I was able to actually get into the game and determine whether or not it would be something I was interested in. I like many aspects, and find a few disheartening (see post under ideas, won't rehash it here). Enjoy the quests and having to figure things out, though a few still have me stumped and I'm too stubborn to ask for help (or look at the wiki yet) because I find satisfaction in doing it myself. I like most of the humor in the game...there were times when I was truly LOL...thought the people AFK sleeping in their locations was cute (is there a way to activate this yourself?) - made it helpful to find strangers to give that garlic kiss to...liked the additional information in the real estate listings so I could see what I was potentially getting.

I also had a number of flash crashes. Friday, I crashed so bad that I at one point, I couldn't get back into the game (it was late anyway, so it was good excuse to go get some sleep). I was using Chrome, and seem to have heard some mention that there could be issues with playing on Chrome. So today, I played using Firefox...still had a couple flash crashes, but nothing as severe as Friday...able to get right back in. Also have to agree there were a few times I was hanging on the sign post as I entered a new world. Didn't really notice any other lag, but only got to level 8, so I wasn't doing many of the harder quests yet.

This is definitely a game with a lot of complexity to figure out, and looks like one that could keep my interest. I could probably spend hours just cooking various food items. It was definitely nice reconnecting with many of my FS buddies, and especially my BFF from FS.

  • Just being able to get into game again was great. Time zone for me meant that it was up and running for some hours before I knew about it and lasted longer than I expected by being online for about an hour on the second day.

I learned a lot though I achieved little in the way of level. Finding things I needed and the shortest way to get there were my priority and though I definately took the long way there to find some of them the shorter way back to where I wanted to be soon became apparent. Even without using teleport. lol That's next on my to do list.

Understanding the importance of using maps and all they can tell you has now become obvious thanks to the time I had to really look at them.

I'm not ever going to be a top achiever but that doesn't matter. I'm enjoying finding my way and being with the best of friends both old and new.

  • Leithwyn, just want to tell you that taking the long way around to find things, at least the first time, has one advantage: You get several experience points each time you visit a new place, which is part of the reason I did so well scorewise...I popped in and out of nearly every district/sign that I could or took loads of intentional detours. Never know what you might find! And even if you don't give two hoots about being a top achiever, as I say, you discover a lot...my two cents :)

  • I also noticed loading issues with Chrome, where it would get stuck while loading and sometimes would come back hours later, but yesterday afternoon it just went off for good. I switched to Firefox, got right on and found no issues.

  • Great test - thank you - flow was really 'flowing' - my avatar went a bit nutty at times - just manically running in one direction so had to reboot a couple of times. Flash crashed twice - otherwise all good.

Would be totally cool if we could have an inbox on our profile pages so we could mail each other.

  • Thanks Devs, as everyone is saying was great test! I had pretty much the same issues as others, flash crash, getting hung up on signs when switching streets, but nothing outrageous. Am hoping we get a long test next weekend!

  • Biggest bug for me was NAKED avatars all over the place. Clothes and features took a while to load and disappeared if I walked past someone.
Posted 21 months ago by Malupin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Malupin, I'm pretty sure the dummies were as designed. I think the idea is features stop being displayed to prevent everything getting bogged down and crashing. I thought it worked great, as I had very little problem with freezing or choppy motion.
