[Updated] Nerf: Quoins in "Ticket to _______" upgrade card locations count towards daily limit, with some exceptions

UPDATE: We are going to switch to a different way of limiting the rate at which iMG/currants/mood/energy/favor can be produced through the use of ticket cards: quoins in these locations will again be exempt from the daily quoin limit, but their use will limited to 11 times per game day.

In addition, (a) the price of activation will go up slightly for players with higher quoin multipliers (b) you will be able to 'eat' tickets to return most of their purchase cost.

We'll be releasing this change tomorrow [Weds, Sept 12] and will post here when we do. UPDATED: This is now launched.

So that the ensuring discussion makes sense, the original post is preserved below:

Until now, quoins you collected in the "Ticket" locations (listed here) did not count towards your daily quoin limit. (Actually, at first they did count, but we changed it because it was sucky to use one of the cards and then find that you couldn't actually collect any of the quoins.) 

Now, the quoins you collect there do count towards your limit, BUT: if you hit your limit in one of these locations you can keep collecting until you are done. (When you are at your limit, you will not be able to activate another card until the new day.)

The motivation for this change is pretty simple: for players with large multipliers, it was overwhelmingly more "profitable" to spend each moment using the tickets over and over. The tickets were meant to be fun, but if you do 150 of them in a row they cease being quite so fun :\

Also, now that we have sharding, being at your limit isn't as bad — you can still join in a sharding party and reap the quoinly benefits.

    I hate this.

    But a nerf really was necessary.  Thanks for making the whole thing more game-mechanically realistic.

  • To be honest, I was afraid of this. The Ticket to _____ upgrade cards are much, much more fun than grinding for donation items. 

    Besides, don't we get to choose what is fun for us to do?

  • This makes total sense to me even if it means I'm going to start having to cook food again instead of using those cards for energy haha. 

    The iMG gain was totally absurd with a maxed quoin multiplier and no upgrade cards dealt besides energy tank and those.

  • Ughhhh. As one of those players who was only logging in to play quoin tickets until I got bored, I am glad that staff has recognized this problem, but I'm also bummed.... i've been collecting quoin tickets like mad and I feel like a lot of the point to them is gone now.

  • Not fond of this change... and while I've got a decent multiplier, I'm nowhere near the max. 

    Once I'd hit my daily limit of quoins, these cards were how I kept myself occupied and continued to enjoy the game.

    I guess if *I* couldn't break my "ignore the things I should be doing all day and screw around in Glitch instead" addiction, TS did it for me. :\

  • I think it's fair... with my 100x quoin multiplier, I can easily get several thousand iMG from one card!

    I have stopped playing them as much because I now have less use for iMG, so I just play them for fun.

  • I think it kinda sucks personally - but not so much for me.  I stopped doing tons of cards a while back - I used them to power through most of the intermediate levels to get the good upgrades.  Now I don't really use them any more, though I do still have them in my tower.  I think this was a bad call personally - if people want to play that way why not let them?

  • In conjunction with this nerf, is there ever likely to be a way we can indicate that we never again want to be presented with certain Upgrade cards (such as the "Ticket" locations cards)?  

    After hitting Level 60, I was buying those cards with iMG and selling them (cheap!) to others who were still working on leveling-up, but now people are much less likely to want them, and I'd really rather not be bothered with them in my deck.  Alternately, maybe make the Upgrade cards for those areas donate-able for favor, so at least they'll have some value beyond junk-mail.

  • I saw this coming, and I don't even think it's a bad nerf - but I'm still disappointed. However, when people were reporting getting 1M iMG in less than a full game day, there was nothing else to do but close up this hole.

    I wish I'd managed to finish maxing my quoin multiplier before the change, tho - that last bit is going to take forever now.

  • (And honestly, with the quoins in the four "jumping" areas being much better than what's in the ticket cards, I'm likely to never touch another ticket card again, honestly. If I'm now limited to 200 quoins a day (with the potion), I'm going to collect them in a high quoin area where I can skip the energy, mood and currant coins without a penalty to me.)

    They'll be good for low level players, which is fine - some things don't have to be for us high level Glitchen. But I don't see any of them worth it for me at this point (except maybe Radial Heights, with the bonus, but I hate Radial Heights and have been giving those away through my botler.)

  • I get why this was needed, but definitely a bummer for some. They'd still be a nice gift for newer players. And I'm assuming the qurazy quoins are still exempt from the daily quoin limits, right? So you could still theoretically collect some QQ img. A good Radial run would still be halfway decent...

  • agree with the others, a needed nerf, but i'd also agree that i'd prefer not to get dozens of them in reshuffles every day now that i'm not going to use them.

  • Tickets available to new home. They are not worth it anymore. I have to spend img, to get img...nah. I will pass. I get a better group of quoins on the streets now.

    Or, TS could edit the fact that we buy these, then we have to spend tons of iMG to use them.  I spend over 1150 currants to use.  We dont have to spend currants to gather quoins on the streets. Maybe make the cards free to use?

  • As someone who was taking advantage of the tickets to level faster I'm actually kind of okay with this nerf. I was getting really bored of the games. Now I guess I'll have to start making things again. Oh well.

  • Hm, if people are (naturally) going to be skipping some quoins in certain situations, would it make sense to lower the img activation requirement a little? I'm not sure it would work out but it's a thought. (I should always reload the page before replying! whoops eruthros, hehe!)

  • I wish I'd known this before I bought 524 extra cards!  Unless new cards are added, there won't be any reason for me to even look at the deck for another three months or so.

    Will img be used for something else, or is it just for upgrading and cultivating until we can't anymore?

  • Why don't you just limit the number of cards we can use in a day? and have a cool down time? Just a thought.

    If I have no quests (I don't) and  have hit my quoin limit (I have) and have hit my other limits for the day (also true) I used to do the cards  so I could stay in Glitch and have something to do, now there's every reason for me to go find something else to do. Something not Glitch.

  • I can understand why the nerf happened, but I know I feel bad about it. I rather wander the world for my quoin limit, not play these cards. As I speak in Global chat, the participants are finding the cards useless. They feel that they are being punished for the acts of a few.

    Could there possibly be a compromise? Maybe a limit to how many times the cards can be used rather than it counting to our quoin limit? It can just be a limit of 5 or 10, enough so they still feel useful and special, but enough of a limit that they can't be abused.

  • I forgot about the activation fee.  It'll be worthwhile for choosy players, except maybe Arbor Hollow.  Bigger quoins need to be near the bottom.

  • While I can understand the reasoning behind the nerf, it seems to me to have been VERY poorly applied. The cards are entirely useless now--there's a price to get in, and most of the quions are little ones. Anyone can get better rewards from wandering around, say, Groddle Forest collecting quions.

    If the cards are to have any use at all, I would suggest that:

    1. The imagination cost for entry be removed. What's the point of having it now?

    2. The quion values in the card areas be upped to be competitive with quion-laden wastelands like Haoma and Roobrik. At least then there would be a reason to use the things (I can go quion-hunting without having to haul ass to Roobrik).

  • It never fails, I find something I find fun and rewarding, it gets 'nerfed'. I don't know why I bother.

    What's the point in having all these awesome quoin-collecting-areas/locations, including  the 'Ticket to__' ones,
    if all we get is 200 quoins per day? I foresee the advent of cut-throat playing styles. 

    ~and, no, I don't 'get' the joy of the 'shards', I presume that will only work as long as you can find people who
    haven't reached their daily quota yet, since the shards only happen when someone 'gets' a quoin?

    Honestly, I'm not sure I'd feel terribly happy/at ease, if I were to enter a street, and suddenly had a horde of
    strangers 'stalking' me, in the hopes of getting a shard off my quoins....freaky..

    Having the 'Ticket to___' areas to go to, was like going on a Glitch Mini Holiday, I could bounce around to my
    hearts content, and earn some worthwhile rewards too....Pure Fun!

  • I would have limited the amount of cards you can use after you reach your quoin limit instead, something on the lines of: "you reached your quoin limit, you can only use 3 upgrade cards cards today, enjoy!"... because they are UPGRADE cards, you know? to upgrade?... Now they are normal cards. You know, for normal quoins.

    Anyone care to explain to me what´s the use of upgrade cards now? I will keep hoarding them because, you know, HOARD, but not much else.

  • I also think that the activation cost needs to be reduced after this change. With a lower cost they would still be useful as an alternative to the quoin areas.

  • stoot, I think Tragus means when you select 'Activate'  on a card it tells you that the quoins do not count to the daily limit when asking if you're sure you want to spend the iMG to activate it. I can't check it out myself as I have hit my limit, but I'm pretty sure that's what Tragus means.

  • I don't like this change at all.. When I had reached my coin limit for the day I played my cards to help me gather img for an upgrade, or just for plain fun.. Everything is going to take a lot longer for newer players now, and this really renders the cards useless to me.

    As for other possible solutions, I like the idea of having a limit of how many cards people can play in a day. Maybe make them impossible to sell/buy/gift? I dont know, I just know I'm really going to miss playing the games for extra rewards during my day..

  • For me, the cards have mainly been a way to prolong my playing time after I've done everything I planned on doing & have maxed my quoins for the day (I only play 1 or 2 at a time, not tens or hundreds).  Now there's not so much reason to play longer.

  • It now won't even let me use a card once I'm at my limit.

    Pro: Now I can get the achievements for maxxing my quoin for 17 days

    Con: Just found about this crazy exp gain a few days ago and only got around 500k exp from cloud rings.

  • What if instead of the cards applying to the quoin limit there as an img cap that applied to direct quoin grabs and scaled with level, the same way donation img does, and have the cards apply to that cap instead of the hard quoin limit?  Maybe cap it at 20% of img required for the next level or something reasonable.  It also allows for continued gathering of energy, mood and currant quoins if you're not at your regular quoin limit (in cases where someone might choose to grind cards rather than quoin jumping areas for their daily img).

    Cards are still useful to the point they can be used for getting to that next upgrade you can't quite afford... or that next level that you're so close to.  Shard parties are still relevant and fun.  Still has the side effect of encouraging more diverse activities in the world and on home streets (gardening, trees, animals, mining, etc).
