Rebalance meditation cooldown

Okay, so I haven't been meditating a lot recently, I admit it. But now with the FEAT in progress, I'm trying to contribute… only to discover that my cooldown time has increased massively.

I understand that rewards were increased with increased levels, and apparently that came with an increased cooldown penalty. I think the balance is really out of whack. It takes 3 MINUTES AND 54 SECONDS (almost 4 minutes) for my cooldown.

It's too much.

Also: could we please have a chime or something when cooldown expires?

  • Is the cooldown affected by level, or by tank size? I'm level 43 and have only a 20-second or so cooldown (I still have an energy tank of less than 1000).

  • Yes, I have a huge energy tank. But I still don't see why the cooldown has to be so very, very long. I am NOT getting benefits proportional to that long of a cooldown, in iMG or anything else.

Could there please be some sort of reasonable cap on it?

  • +1 to the chime for when cooldown's over. And I have to agree that excessively long cooldowns are too much, they negate bubble tea. (I'd also like to know how cooldowns are calculated- is it by level? energy tank? or some combination of factors?)

  • +1 also for chimes.  I love the new meditation, and I didn't mind the longer cooldown until I found out that it gets longer with a bigger tank.  It does need rebalanced.

I also agree with the problem of the bubble tea, I used to be able to meditate twice off of one tea.  Now I can only meditate once because of cooldown, and even then, my meditation only lasts for a qtr of the buff or so... usually my tea buff and my cooldown run out at the same time. :/

I guess on the other hand, I am getting more energy with one buff than I did meditating twice before with the buff so I shouldn't complain, but I will stand on the need to fix cooldown times from getting to far out of hand.

  • Not that this has much to do with cooldowns, but it looks like they at least made the rewards for meditating with a larger tank slightly higher (but it looks like it only *just* happened?). I got 1,337 energy from regular meditation with a 10,000e tank.

  • The reality of it is that with a big 10K+ tank, you rarely need to meditate for energy or mood—just as you rarely need to eat. So, while it's nice to get a bigger energy bump from meditation, it's a big annoyance to have the cooldown period be ridiculously long. Most of the time it won't matter, because we're not relying on meditation to keep us going.

I don't know what the formula for calculating the cooldown is, but it put some of us at a serious disadvantage for the FIrst Feat. And while radiating cooldown was only half the length of regular meditation, it was still a long wait.

ETA: Since meditating for energy & mood are going to be rare, most meditation will be radiating, levitating, and the martial imagination activities. There's no reason why recovery periods from those should be longer for one glitch than another. (Time is not proportional, it is absolute.)

  • Level 60. 17860 energy. Meditation cool down? 5 mins 57 secs.
A day ago, the cool down was about 10 seconds shorter, but I have increased my energy tank size, so clearly base energy determines cool down time.

I hadn't meditated since before the img changeover and was shocked by the cool down. Wouldn't it make more sense to just put a cap on how much energy it delivers? I can't imagine any players who have pumped img into big energy tank upgrades bothering to meditate as a way to refill energy. I know I sure as heck have no interest in that.

However, I can see them being horribly frustrated by the cool down if they haven't finished the meditation badges.

Going for the Master of Internal Emptiness takes 503 minutes of meditation.
Let's say I get 1 full minute of meditation per time (and we all know that isn't going to happen), so 1 min of meditation and 6 minutes of cool down, that is 7 minutes and needs to be done 503 times...3521 minutes or 2 1/2 full days. If the meditation duration is the more likely 20  to 40 seconds, we're talking about 5 solid days.

It seems a bit silly to penalize long term players with this ever increasing cool down.

  • How is anybody put to a disadvantage? Did something change and its possible now to "Win" glitch?

  • "(Time is not proportional, it is absolute.)"

Actually, time is relative.  Why not tolerate one minor tradeoff for having a huge energy tank?

  • Can one win Glitch? Nope. However, it is positioned as a game. One of the few game like things to do in Glitch is gather achievements. So, yes, when something that appears to be a positive thing (increasing your available energy) has a completely negative side effect with zero warning, I think it can put people at a disadvantage.

In building a better game, which I assume is the goal of Tiny Speck, it is generally not great game design to penalize a player for making progress.

As to why not tolerate a minor trade off? I don't think the world will end if this is never addressed anymore than any of the other random suggestions/comments. I happen to have the 503 meditation achievement, so the impact on myself is pretty much nothing. That still doesn't stop me from thinking that a warning would be nice, or an off switch on the Focusing Orb that allowed for a shorter cool down if the benefits were sacrificed.
