IMPROVED: Victoria's big table o'foodstuffs! (best food for energy, mood or profit)

Everyone wonders at some time: what's the "best" food in Glitch?

With Master Chef II it's easy, just cook up some Awesome Stew and you're good. But what about lower level cooks? Are you struggling to find out what the best food is for energy gain? Or are you having a hard time keeping your mood up? Here is something that might help:

Victoria's big table o'foodstuffs!
And also one for mood-enhancing drinks (mostly).

These tables take into account the whole cooking/shaking/blending process! The only exception are "raw" ingredients (meat, milk, beans, etc.), because the energy cost of gathering those depends on your skill level.

Example:
Ingredients for a Hearty Omelet are 2 eggs, 2 mushrooms, 1 cheese (-7 energy), 1 Hot 'n' Fizzy Sauce (-4). For the sauce you need 1 Tiny Bubble (-5), 1 Cumin (-3), 1 Hot Pepper (-2) and 1 Mustard (-2). Frying the omelet is costs another 11 energy.
Total energy cost = 34.
Energy gain from eating the omelet = 102.
Total energy gain = 68.

Enjoy!

EDIT: I managed to upload the spreadsheet that also takes into account the energy costs for gathering "raw" ingredients, here. It's public but you can't edit. Download it, fill out the values that correspond with your skill level in the "Harvest" tab and enjoy! It's not completely finished though, some data are still missing. Go here to see where you can help.

  • I finally managed to get it up on Google Docs!

Here is the document that takes the energy cost from gathering meat etc into account. This one is public, but you can't edit. That's because all the energy values depend on your skill level. But feel free to download! In the "Harvest" tab fill out your values in the cells marked yellow and you're good to go.

There's not only info on energy gain, but also currant and mood gain!

    Pleas note:
    - this is not finished yet! Missing: info on mostly sauces & cocktails
    - for the calculation of energy cost of recipes I assume you grow your own crops. But I also included all the info on crops you can buy from vendors, so you can change that if you want.
    - for currant gain I assume you sell to a regular vendor, who pays 70% market value. This can ofcourse easily be changed to 80%.
    - everything in italics is not confirmed in-game, mostly based on the wiki
    - there are some empty cells, I have no info yet on those
    - red cells contain formula's (I like to mark those)
    - you can disregard the two little columns with all the x's and w's, I use those to mark everything I've checked in-game (x) and with the wiki (w).

  • @Victoria: Fantastic, fantastic! I'm so excited to use your spreadsheet. Can I ask what columns B and C are in the Food sheet? I also wish Google Docs allowed people to sort/filter a sheet without having to grant editing rights.

Have you used named ranges before? It's assigning specific names like cherry_E to the cell that contains the energy cost of cherries (Food!F43). The good thing about doing this is that the named range sticks with the cell value even after sorting. Right now, if I sorted the sheet by Net energy gain, it would wreck the formulas. It also reduces errors in the formulas since you'll be using a name instead of accidentally typing/clicking the wrong cell.

If you want, I can take a stab at converting your formulas to use named ranges. Or if you want to take a stab at it, I'd be glad to explain how to do it in Google Docs or Excel.

  • Hey SleepyAce, you can disregard column B and C. I'm still working in this file, x marks the recipes I've verified in-game and the ones marked w are in sync with the wiki (since I'm also updating the energy values there).

Sorting the columns indeed messes everything up :( I hardly use Excel, or in my case Numbers, so I'm not an expert. But Numbers automatically does that name ranging thing, so on my computer everything is just fine. Even when I export to .xls. It's just that Google Docs hates Numbers ánd Excel, so I had to export to .ods to make it work. I think it got lost somewhere on the way...

I would love to convert everything in Google Docs, but I * ahem * should really not be working on this right now... I can give you editing rights if you promise not to vandalise the document ;) You're more than welcome to convert all the formula's to named ranges. Just contact me on Google+ or via e-mail!

  • Wow Victoria, that's awesome. I feel somewhat responsible for piling this work on you, since I believe it was me snooping around and finding your page a couple days ago that started this snowball rolling. I wanted to message you at the time, but all I could do was 'friend' you, so this is a good opportunity for me to say thanks to you for all the work you have put into your charts.
I'm glad I started poking around before commencing my own chart.
If I can help in the future, please don't hesitate to message me. cheers

  • Haha, you're right JaXXoN, if it wasn't for you I would have never updated that table. Not now anyway. Most of the work was already done though, it just wasn't out in the open yet. You finding my user page on the wiki inspired me to update that thing :)

I added you to my buddy list! There isn't really a useful way of messaging eachother on Glitch, but my contact info is on my profile :)
