Notes on Poles

I thought it way more user friendly when we could read what the note was about, simply by mousing over a note. With many notes the whole idea is to be able to mouse over them; if people don't slow down to read by mousing over a note, what on earth is going to compel them to stop and click on it to read?

eta: Now it says 'What's it say?' when you hold/move cursor over it.

  • I don't know, I don't have a mouse, so no mouse-overing for me, I guess.:)

(i.e. there are some people who use different ways to navigate through Ur, and deliberative selecting of items - by clicking or otherwise - probably suits majority of users.)

  • I thought it sounded nicer than saying 'cursing over it'... :P  =)

  • I liked being able to see a snippet of what the note was about without having to click and get a notice. Eg I don't need to sad a pole that tells me to shuck and replant, cos I do that anyway.

Not that I bother reading note poles at all

  • @~Scilly~ Well, but some people do not use cursor. For example, I use mostly keyboard, and your suggestion* would mean notes popping out of the notepoles anytime when I'm near enough, which could be extremely obnoxious, especially in pole-dense areas, or when trying to squeeze bunch of chickens near notepole, etc.

*If I understand it correctly, of course.:)

  • I think she's just saying that it would be nice if it worked the same way it did before when you mouseover something.   No change for mouse-haters  :)

  • Yes, I liked when you could mouse over and see the subject. When people have the foresight to make a concise subject - it saves me from reading something that won't affect me. I'm way more likely to read something like "Insert Clever Poem Title Here" than "Route Instructions". And if your subject is "Yellow Crumb Only!", I will be more likely to comply, rather than accidentally plant purple before I take time to read your note.

  • Thanks shhexy corin! Very true, Chazerei!
I would like to see the headline of the note, like we used to, instead of reading 'What's it say?', like it is now.
Either way, there's a popup, I would just prefer seeing what the note is about (and then decide, if I want, to
stop and read it), rather than seeing the same useless -and instantly annoying- words over and over...
'What's it say? What's it say?' argh!

  • This change really reduced the functionality of notepoles. Many players were putting the essential information into the title, which you could read on mouseover. Now all I get is "What's it say? on mouseover and I am forced to click and get a popup window to even see what the note is about. I'm not going to bother reading them now and I doubt many other players will either. You've reverted us back to shouty gnomes. Ugh.

  • I agree, Lucille Ball. I'm on 3 different routes (though I may leave one shortly as it's not really being used), and my note pole had a title so that people who just moused over it knew which sign on my pole went where for ease instead of someone reading the note, though the note said pretty much the same thing. Basically, this change just means people need to click or hit enter on the note pole to find out where they need to go.

  • OK! sorry about that oversight! Reload and you should again see the note title when you mouseover a note pole.
