Brushing foxes is a useless pursuit when alone.

Remember back when foxes were first introduced and the preserves were brimming with Glitchen? During that time I could gather over 1000 fiber in minutes--it was wonderful! I've tried going back there several times since then, and never see anyone else in the preserves. Brushing by myself has proven to be incredibly frustrating, and not worth the time. Even following the suggestions made by people in the forums to increase the efficiency of brushing has only resulted in a couple more brushings per bait, and alot of sitting around and waiting or chasing the fox up and down the street. Bait doesn't last very long when there's only one person trying to keep the fox from the bait: it was better when there were more people.

So, either TS could make solo fox brushing easier, or we can band together and brush in groups. I've started the Fox Brushing Club for this purpose: if you're interested in maximizing your fiber collecting, please join us, keep the chat up in game, and help organize or join in some fox brushing parties. Those poor foxes need it... they look so scraggly.

By the way, just ask if you are in max groups and need an invite.

  • I suspect this is by design, and totally look forward to fox brushing parties!

  • Hooray! I've thought the same thing in the past few days, but never took it to the nex' level to make a Fox Brushing Group! Joining now!

  • And here I thought it was just me being too uncoordinated. I would love an invite, Shepherd:)

  • YES - this is a fabulous idea.  I have noticed the exactly same thing.  Fox brushing is much more effective in groups of about 5 to 10.  I shall join posthaste!

  • Please don't invite me to the group.  I'll just watch and join in when I can.

  • Great idea Shep, but still not sure if I am just too uncoordinated to brush. Can I get an invite please? Maybe it will help.  Thanks a bunch :)

  • I think this might work out even better if a given group could agree, beforehand, to pool and then evenly split the results.

  • Good idea! I've noticed the same issue.

  • I just joined the Club and pointed it out to The Fiber Exchange. Brushing alone isn't useless for me, but it's definitely better with a hunting party.

  • Well, I just went alone fox brushing. I used only two baits and I got almost 5,000 fibers.

Granted, I have a high level and a high quoin multiplier (if either of those influences the amount of fiber you get from each brushings, average 40 for me), but it shows that you can efficiently go fox brushing alone.

You have to use all the techniques:
    - stay very close to the entrance, so that some bait will not be accessible by the foxes.
    - use maximum zoom
    - use camera mode, so that you can see where the fox is
    and
    - use two brushes alternatively, so that brush one you just used will be made available again while you are using brush two.

    2 baits: ~5,000 fibers in 3 minutes.

Now I am going to break a few spindles.

  • Thanks for tips, Ygasuasu! I'm going to try your technique.
Posted 7 months ago by Blithe Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ygasuasu, from my recent experience they made the minimum distance you can be away from the entrance larger, so it's pretty much impossible to make the bait inaccessible. Well, I've never been able to make it inaccessible, anyway.
Posted 7 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Sheperdmoon - I can assure you that for both baits I ignited, one or two were inaccessible to the foxes.
Posted 7 months ago by Ygasuasu Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think the bait landing spots are kind of random. Occasionally one does fall outside the park gate for me, but it happens pretty rarely since we have been moved further into the park before we can ignite.
Posted 7 months ago by Aleph Zero Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I believe you, Ygasuasu. I've never been able to do it myself, is all. Maybe I'm just unlucky.
Posted 7 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Ygasuasu- the idea isn't to cheat the system. When we were first given the ability to brush foxes we could switch back and forth with our two brushes with ease. Now u get a "brushing too fast" warning because we were all using that bug as an advantage. U say you need to make the bait inaccessible by letting it fall outside the park barriers is also a bug they will most likely fix when they realize we are using it to beat the system again. Anytime you find a wormhole it'll be gone soon when the wormhole becomes popular. (think about all the XP nerfs and such) so there u go.
Posted 7 months ago by Clickadee Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Clickadee - I am not cheating the system. I am using techniques that have been known for almost a week. If some of these techniques are in fact exploiting some bugs, then I am sure that the devs will close them.
Posted 7 months ago by Ygasuasu Subscriber! | Permalink
  • FWIW, I'd been getting the "brushing too fast" message ever since foxes were introduced. It's not a more recent change.

  • I found out why I am getting more fibers by brushing than before: I have the upgrade "Bristling Bonus":

Boost your Brushing skills so you can get more Fiber when you use the Fox Brush!

  • Igniting bait farthest from the spawn point helps.

  • We went on our first group brushing earlier. I got over 3500 fiber from it! It was definitely much better the more people that were there. More people = more bait and more foxes, as well as a larger chance of the fox getting scared away from the bait.

  • Brushing is quite aggravating.  Hell, I didn't even know that you would get more from doing it with other people!
Posted 7 months ago by Serra Subscriber! | Permalink
  • + 1 Sheperdmoon! Brushing with your group I got way more fiber than when alone! Definitely makes a difference!
Posted 7 months ago by welshcorgi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I was wondering if there was a kind of default place people gathering fiber at.  Like the way people go to Cebarkul to find glitchen for tombstone mourning/celebrating.  So when you want to find people to gather fiber with, you go to "fill in the blank" and you'll more than likely find someone to gather fiber with.

  • I do indeed wish bait would last a weeeeeee bit longer. It seems awfully short.

  • KatGamer stand as close to the ranger as you can and it normally lasts longer

  • I can tell you for anyone who checks this thread, that Ygasuasu's method does indeed work. First try using his method got me over 1000 fibers. Good tutoring Y! Thx! =)

  • i don;t know if anyone will eb helped by my method, which is mostly indifference.

if i'm goign by a fox preserve and it;s empty of glitchen sometimes the ranger says the fox has been seen.

when that happens i just stand quietly. i do not use baits and i have only one brush but i;ve  come up with a lot of fiber.

it;s probably because i don;t care and usually give the fiber to the next glitch i see.

try it. but i supsect foxes know if you care or not nd are shy.

  • I kick off two fox baits, one after the other, and get over 1200 fiber by myself. Still not as good as 5000 with two baits, but not terrible either. :)

  • I ignite as many baits as I can, as near to the gate as I can and then ZOOM OUT. Zoom out all the way, so I can see nearly the whole street at once. Playing zoomed out makes it much easier to spot and brush the fox.

Playing zoomed out is either underrated, or people just haven't caught on yet. :)

  • Invite sent, Abby! Just ask in the Fox Brushing Club chat if you wan to brush and someone might be on at the time that would like to join you. The foxes have gotten to the point now where they eat the baits even as they're being scared away from them, then run to the next one and eat that too, down the line as they run away, leaving nothing. The baits don't last very long at all. I've never been able to get a bait stuck outside the park so the fox never leaves, but maybe I'm just unlucky. Another good thing about having many people around is that more than one fox may show up at once.

  • Fox brushing alone is possible, and if lucky profitable, but fox brushing with friends is much more profitable and fun.

  • Zooming out cuts down chase time a lot. But group fox hunts are much more fun.

  • The new fox badges make working in groups even more rewarding (particularly for getting the badge that requires 3 foxes to be on the street at once). If anyone wants an invite to the group for help with working on these, let me know.
