SDB upgrades

Ok so I get why upgrading furniture costs credits, but I think SDBs should be more like wallpaper swatches, where once you buy an upgrade you own it.  The reason I say this is because it seems that many players are making multiple SDB, not just one or two and to pay 10-25 credits each adds up.
I know we have two free options (black or white), but there are so many fun other ones.  I would gladly pay 55-75 credits for an upgrade if I then owned it for multiple SDBs.

From alot of the home images I've seen, people are mostly using only the free versions because they have so many and they want things to match.
just a thought...

  • or even a cute "Free for subscribers" option — TS still gets money out of the subscription but subscribers don't use all of their credits for one piece of furniture!

  • If it worked that way then you could upgrade furniture and sell it.   One person would buy the upgrade and everyone else would buy their furniture from that person.

  • Why the rush to have it all done at once? You get a monthly stipend of credits if you're a subscriber. You can budget a certain amount of SDBs to decorate monthly until they are done if you are concerned about using so many credits.

  • I did not realise that was the case, Mary - I have not had any credits appear ever. I assume it must be one of the higher plans, not the basic one I am on.

not everyone has a subscription (I do).  Some people just buy a credit bundle.   I've see images of many interiors and people are using 10+ sbds. That's at least 100 credits.  It just seems like alot for an item many people use allot of.  I compare it to if we were charged for each "pane" of wallpaper we used.  I agree that we don't have to rush, but even over time all those SBDs add up.  Plus I am OBSESSED with organizing & matching  lol
I will NOT however admit to hoarding  *>_>*

  • I don't see why they should be treated any differently to other furniture items, especially as selling upgraded furniture is turning into a nice little cottage industry for some folk.

I must have around 80 SDBs now, and will probably get a fair few more. I've upgraded a few, but most are still in their plain, un-upgraded state. I'm sure I'll upgrade them all eventually, but there's no rush.

Don't forget that everyone playing right now is in a rather unusual position, in that we've suddenly been thrust into a position where we had shiny new houses but because we've been playing for some time, we've also got the experience and resources (and the desire) to make lots of improvements to them all at once. This isn't normal.

If you are a brand new player coming into Glitch, you won't be in the position where you suddenly make a whole tonne of SDBs. You'll be acquiring/making things like that much more gradually as you progress through the game. Our experiences right now aren't going to be the same as the many players who join from now on.

  • Do I need an intervention? I've become too lazy to even upgrade from that "unvarnished rustic" look that they begin with.

I can see the logic in Gadzooks' argument, but we do need to remember that the game is (if we choose) free. We shouldn't begrudge the devs a source of income.

  • Totally agree 100% to what Gadzooks says!!

  • I like this idea a lot. Even for new players just joining SDBs would come in incredibly handy for organizational purposes and the free or subscriber options are fairly limited.

Their the one object of furniture where the majority of people are going to have a great amount of. I have no problem paying separately for 4 or 6 chairs but not for 40 or so SDBs. Even spread over a long period of time I don't think I would want to sink the amount of credits necessary to upgrade all of them. (this is especially so given that there is no way to preview a wall of sdbs).

  • oh and I don't think anyone is begrudging the devs a source of income only pointing out that from a pricing standpoint SDB upgrades, considering their use, are unusually expensive. That's a really uncharitable way to look at this post.

The devs might even make more money off a better system, I for one am using the free upgrades on my SDBs and am happy with it but would probably move to paid ones if their was an option of doing so that wasn't one by one.

  • Well then for anyone not on a credit subscription plan or on any plan at all, this is a great time to buy a la carte credits because all credit purchases will be doubled when we re-launch!
