Hi everyone. First off, this thread is NOT about the merits and demerits of a reset.
A reset is going to happen (Supposedly 6+ weeks from now). For the old players, this is not a big deal. They are aware of this issue, and have mostly accepted that their current work will be lost. However, for new players it is a bigger issue. These people are just starting out and trying to find their way. For them, a reset would be much more confusing than for an experienced player. For example, someone who has been using their current character for 6 months is essentially at the end of their skills tree and might not mind the reset. For a new player, the idea of playing nonstop for a week or two, than losing all that work, can be very frustrating and discouraging. So, I suggest that queue-jumping be disabled for a few weeks leading up to the reset so that new players do not have to go through the early experience twice.
There is also another issue related to letting new players in, this time after the reset. Right after the reset, everyone will want to play for a longer stretch of time without interruption so they can get back to their accustomed bag layouts, houses, etc. Therefore, people may not want to devote as much time to helping new players get used to the world. So, there also should probably not be queue-jumping for a few weeks after the reset.
TL;DR: It will be harder to handle new players in the weeks surrounding a reset. Solution: Close queue-jumping for the weeks surrounding the reset. Your thoughts?
Edit: Corrected timing on reset, thanks LB-o
