Business opportunity for full-time Glitch player.

Let's suppose you play Glitch daily, and have Remote Herdkeeping.   Assuming you could convince people that you are trustworthy, you could set yourself up to maintain piggy herds in peoples houses.   Your client would not need RHK, they would only need to buy the associated equipment.   The customer would need to give you a key (which implies quite a bit of trust there.)   You would agree to visit the house once per RL day, fill the feeder(s) with grain and empty all collectors / milkers for a 15% cut of their output, stack the customers share away from the hungry pigs and keep a logsheet posted near the pen or backyard.

It's not for me, but I'll bet I know more than a few glitch who would sign up for this provided the reputation of the provider could be established somehow.

  • What is the point? Neither meat, milk, or cheese sell well. The only reasons I can think about doing that is to start a huge hoarder collection of meat and milk, or to use the meat and cheese to make food to give to newcomers.

  • Well @Macs, meat is used for most of the higher powered food items, either directly or via sauce - Bolignase (sp) immediately comes to mind

Miilk is of course used to make butter and cheese, which are also used in a whole lot of food recipes. So someone who has concentrated on cooking and herdkeeping, and who in real life has other commitments that prevent them from properly maintaining those herds directly (either temporarily or periodically)  benefits from such a relationship, much like miner's reliance on drink and food makers or most lower level players on the powder makers (fec, fert, and shrine).

Self-sufficiency is great, and I'm a real believer, but setting up barter arrangements with other players has been so far, at least for me, a win win situation, and it makes areas I'm weak in better served. And auction still has a ways to go to better utilize the abilities many of us are gaining. Each to his/her own I suppose, but although I don't keep herds, IMO, it's a sound idea, if you can find people that are trustworthy and dependable, and who actually have the time to do these tasks on the side.

  • as someone that has RHK, it's a cash-spinner.
combine that with farming, and you're doing well.
there are maintenance costs, a few k every few days.
    But the meat flows.
    As does the milk.
    See my farm coop thread.
10 houses working in concert among a trust group would work splendidly, as long no one was a complete sociopathic bastard.
It's the tragedy of the commons, I suppose, but what about the untragedy of the uncommon?
I have more meat and milk than I know what to do with.
But the higher prices for value added items are compelling.
So what's needed is trust, focus and distributed labor.
    and sharing the wealth.
I don't need an income stream beyond what I have.
But a collaborative income stream? Secondary?
    that would be worth something.
So, I'm thinking shared keys for a cocktail hut, a food hut, maybe an ingot hut.
We can all stuff those places to the GILLS.
    and a profit sharing arrangement?
Provided everyone is an honest broker?
    that would be amazing.
Willing to try & treat all fairly.
    see my thread elsewhere.
It really only takes a few folks.
to do something kind of amazing.

  • The service offered is RHK without needing the skill.   The RHK tender visits your house each day and empties the collectors and leaves you your share of the meat.   As a customer, you really need do nothing but supply the equipment and pigs and you receive a pile of meat in your house with no nibbling required.   As the business owner, you don't have to do all that much work - go in the door and head straight for the collectors, parcel out the meat, update a visit log and head for the next customer.   At 15% you get 9 meat per full collector, say an average of 18 per customer.

To clarify, I'm just making the suggestion that others may want to try this.  I have too many RL commitments to try it myself.

  • I did RHK for someone for quite a while. First, by coming in when she was at home, later, with a key. Since it was my wife, I was willing to do it, but it sure feels a lot like work and I get enough of that at work. I have no doubt this would work and would benefit all involved (if the party can be trusted). It really is a BIG "if" though.
