Glitchmas Rage

Earlier today I got invited for the first time to the new Glichmas wintery party house.  My assumption when I arrived was that things sitting around were just like in any of the other party houses; respawning and up for grabs.  No one said anything about decorating anything, so naturally I had no idea.  I thought it was cool that there were decorations on the trees too.

Then I get the hate mail.  "I invited you to a party and you stole our decorations."  Ok, wait, I what?!  Honestly, I had no idea and now I'm some some sort of bad guy.  Apparently I was supposed to just know that fancy tree decorations were somehow different than fancy other items that show up in party houses.

Fair warning to everyone else...  Stuff that's in the winter party house is apparently not just part of the house and people are excessively pissy about grabbing random things that are laying around.

  • It's simply bad behavior to grab a lot of stuff at parties.  Just saying.

  • The information in this topic is valuable; however, I'm going to have to take points off for the needlessly combative and grudgy way it is presented. The correct way to react when someone tells you you've mistakenly done something wrong is by saying, "Oh my gosh, I had no idea, sorry!" and possibly offering to return the stuff.

  • Yeah, what everyone said.  You're not supposed to go to a party and grab everything laying around, it's just bad form.

That said, I did see someone in the Wintry party I went to this morning grabbing all the foods in the left side and he/she got yelled at, told off, and then the person yelling left saying "There are hoarders here."  Which I thought was a little uncalled for, even if the person *was* hoarding, because the items generally respawn in party places, at least that I know of.  And what if they were taking the stuff in order to hand out, or taking it so it would respawn, or to cook things with?  The yeller didn't give the other user a chance, they just told them off and then left.

So.. I don't know, I just feel that gives things a little more perspective.  Then again they weren't taking stuff off the tree so I don't think it was you.  :: shrugs ::

In any case, from now on you shouldn't go to a party and just take things.  ^_^*

Wait this is considered a hate mail?

  • I would have snagged them all up, too. Anyone who 'decorates' a party and then expects a mob of glitches to just leave their 'masterpiece' untouched is just grief-baiting.
I wouldn't snag them up because I'm rude, I would have snagged them up because I've only been to two parties and at each of them, everyone was grabbing what they could.

  • At the party *I* went to they were decorating the tree  with compounds.   Someone did apparently take all the compounds off the tree at one point.   Why do that?  They are compounds.  You can't eat them and they're hardly worth anything for resale.   Is the extent of your Glitch experience "pick up everything that's not nailed down?"    That's pretty sad.
Posted 12 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • lol it would be cool if we *could* eat the compounds.  ;)  "You feel like: Abbidose!" hehe
But I agree, that is sad someone would do that.  =(

  • I've learned from the past that if it's a ton of stuff and either no one is grabbing them or they are set up in a very weird way, I ask what's going on before grabbing. When I found the missing floor I felt like I was in candy land but I asked someone before I got grabby cause it just didn't seem right. But hey, don't take it personally. I think mostly everyone is on edge cause of the holidays. They will forget that happened. It was no biggie.

  • Yeah dude, play how we play or get the hell out.

    Just kidding.
Just remember that if it's on the ground, it's up for grab.
    Party or not.

  • @OP:  Some people just don't get it.
    Thanks for sharing.
I'll be sure not to invite you to future gatherings.

  • Me too. And you can go to town on everything in it. Lol

  • There are TONS of stuff that does spawn at Winter Wingding. Lots. Including decorations on the trees.

Whether they are up for grabs... well, that is up to the host.

They may have been decorating with their own stuff too. That can be hard to tell if it is your first time to a location.

I am surprised no one said anything at the party while it was happening. If they didn't, well, then I don't have a ton of sympathy for them. If they did say something and it was ignored (which can be sometimes easy to miss if since it may have happened in party chat or in local) then.... Well, you get it.

In general, in all party spaces, I would say it is "bad form" to pop it, grab a bunch of spawning stuff and take off. Like a normal Real World party, it is a good idea to hang out a bit and figure out what is going on before you start interacting. Common sense.*

*Sadly, Common Sense I is still a locked skill and can't be learned... yet.

  • Parties in Ur are similar to parties anywhere: you are free to partake from the buffet. It is probably bad manners to strip the tree and upturn all the serving platters into your own purse or backpack to take home and eat all by yourself, later.

I'm at a skill level now in Glitch where I can make my own goodies and tend to refrain from nom-grubbing at gatherings as a result. I may take *a* drink or *a* snack, but that's to be polite, not because I need them.

  • It would be polite asking before taking something. I agree with WalruZ.

Maybe this is not the right place to post this but... talking about glitchmas rage, the other day while I was opening some crackers at the toy vendor I left a space for the cracker prize while I opened the other crackers. To my surprise the cracker gave me 4 door potions and 3 were dropped instantly, I guessed no one would take them (and also thought they couldn't) but they instantly went for my door potions and kept them even when I complained about it. Luckily, some glitches worried about my little lose. Yes, I'm butt-hurt and maybe it was my fault for not guessing that I would need more space. (I had more but I was also pulling other's people crackers) Is this the christmas spirit? I don't care for those potions and I don't want you to gift me anything, but I seriously couldn't believe it. Stupid me, thinking everyone was nice here.

  • Edit: I was typing this while Tetro posted. I definitely feel the pain of people who drop things accidentally--my condolences.

I might be a dissenting voice here, but while I agree that taking everything might be a bit gauche... I am getting really tired of the idea that, in Glitch:

    - We all have the solemn right to be forever surrounded by objects that don't--in terms of game mechanics, or even proximity--belong to us anymore
    - Everyone who comes across dropped objects is governed by the intention of the person who put them there, forever.
    - If they defy the "intention halo" of the person who dropped the items, it is a rude, hurtful thing for which people should feel very bad indeed.

I decorated my house for Glitchmas, and a few days later, the objects walked off. That is not unacceptable. I threw my paper boat into the river and it washed away.

I guess I am just wondering about player expectations and the 0-to-60 acceleration to indignation and "heartbrokenness."

  • Let's continue to lavish attention on the poster of a thread who clearly is only looking for endless praise and approval for his/her participation in the fabled sport of ~~GLITCH DRAMA~~!!!!

Can we make a new forum specifically for Glitch Drama? Hell, pitch it to MTV as a reality show. They love people who have no perspective on their petty first world problems.

  • I concur with Pomegrandy.

If you choose to drop something and someone else picks it up, you only have yourself to blame.

(That said, it'd be nice if the taker would leave something -- anything -- in its place.  The Hop and the Dragon have been bone dry lately.  Come on!)

  • There is a polite way to remind or inform party guests that the items are intended to be decorations.  When you've been playing for a while, you learn by trial and error which items are "spawn" items and which ones are dropped by other players.  But it seems unreasonable to get angry with someone who is not "ganking" items maliciously.  And I can't understand why they waited until the party was over to let you know that they were upset.

I have a bit of a soapbox about dropped items...  I've noticed quite a few players getting upset when other players take items they've dropped.  I can certainly understand the need to politely inform newer players (or players new to a particular setting) that, for example, the "food pile" is intended to be shared or that items have been placed for decoration.  But personally, if I don't want someone taking something, I don't drop it!  If I do drop it, it's because I *want* to share it and I'm happy when I see someone take it.

I don't fault you for reacting the way you did.  There is no right or wrong way to react to something.  Your reaction simply is what it is.  But maybe this thread will prevent another player from making the same honest mistake and will prevent some future anger/hurt feelings on both sides.  :)

  • I had exactly the same problem last night...it never occurred to me that someone was decorating...I assumed that the items spawned there...I didn't take too much, but when I noticed that someone was complaining about the stolen decorations, I felt a bit bullied and ostracized for my actions.   I apologized and gave them back.  I am not a greedy glitch.  My bad.

  • @tetro I was there when that happened to you and I'm sorry even though i wasn't the one who took your things. The only problem I have is that when you started ranting after your items were taken, everyone asked you what happened and you wouldn't answer. You just said its cool and left. I was actually trying to catch you cause I had a few jewels in my bag and I wanted to give you one. I for one know how much it sucks to have your stuff taken like that. I really wish you had said something though. Maybe whoever took it would have given it back. Some people are actually nice about that.

  • I'll be sure to hit the 'X' next time a party invite comes across my screen. I have enough pressure trying to be PC in the RW I don't need it in a game. I get terrible lag, people are running around like roaches, and now I gotta worry about offending people? Jeez. Those packs are generally the furthest thing that I could ever consider a 'party' to actually be. Sad? Maybe. But I prefer to hang out with the Scion of Purple within the confines of my own living room. I'm a happy hermit and I don't need nuthin' from no-body. Keep your stupid invitations. End of whine.

  • When you go to a party in RL do you take the decorations?  Do you strip the tree bare?  Do you open the gifts under the tree?  Most parties in Glitch have food and drinks set out for the guests.  Please help yourself but don't take more than you need and if you don't "need" then don't take but one or two or three for future use.  Please don't grab everything in sight.  You are NOT the only guest.  It takes time, energy and currants to provide extras in the Party places though some things will also spawn.  Take note of what spawns and what doesn't and help yourself to the spawning items (but not ALL of them).  Think about how you would feel if it were your party.  OK, maybe that isn't a good idea, maybe you want your guests to strip the place bare but no everyone does.

To the Party Hosts - please realize that some of your guests think differently and also that they may not know any party etiquette or they may never have been to a party.  Please be Kind to them.  Explain how the party works, what spawns, what doesn't.  Please don't assume that someone is trying to ruin your party, they may just not know what is expected.

Give and take, learn and teach, help and be helped.  Most of all, try to have Fun and make sure others do too.  Be Kind my Friends!

  • Ugh do we really need to be having these converstions? Ok lets all just use commen sense and don't nab everything is sight. I don't feel there is a lot that this converstion can do the thing is that the type of people who nab everything in site are in general kinda new to the game or not overly community minded. In other words the types who don't check the fourm that much.
