How are quests given?

Okay, this might be (could be, probably is) a really stupid question....but how are quests given by the Magic Rock? For instance, is there an order that we all go thru in the same order or does something trigger them or are they based on our skill tree path or what? Some of what I've read on Glitch Strategy suggests that some quests are triggered but I'm not sure that always applies. Admittedly I have not read every quest description there to find out precisely the pattern. Reason I need to know, is that I am holding out for a bog house. During beta, I often was held up by quests that I couldn't do because I didnt have a garden or tree patches and chose not to use the community garden. Or when I bought a garden home, I would do something on my own, like plant one of every seed, then later get the quest for it. I'd like to follow the quest order if there is such a thing this time if thats what I need to do to save time and have quicker xp but if there isn't, then I'll just head to the bogs. HELP! :)

  • Well, one of the major things I know about quests is that each skill often has a quest that is somewhat associated with it. As for the more unspecific quests such as the Jethmidah (sp?) Tower quest... Well, I haven't the foggiest. :)

  • The first quest you get is to learn a skill.  If you go ahead and do that right away, I am pretty sure the next quest you get will be related to the skill you learned.  After that, I believe some quests are triggered by your level and others by the additional skills you choose to learn.  In addition, it may be that some quests are triggered by events such as what objects you have acquired, what quests you've already completed, locations you've visited, etc. -- but I'm not sure about that.  I started playing three days before the end of the last test, and I only got to level 10, so I'm by no means an expert.  But this how it seemed to work.

  • Oh, oh, oh. That reminds me. Location is almost definitely a factor. If you guys are familiar with the ancestral lands, there is a quest that is triggered by entering one of the ancestral lands areas.

  • Rumor had it that the Ghost Quest was triggered by visiting more than 300 streets.

  • Hmm. That sounds legitimate. I got it shortly before I got my wanderer badge for the number that is around 300. (320 maybe?)

  • Also some quests like the Rook Museum were triggered whenever you entered the game after they were put in place (I think). Not sure we know what would trigger quests like that.

  • @Dagnabbit - I notice you said you were "held up" by quests.  You don't have to be held up if you don't have the skills yet.  Just accept every quest when it is given, and move on to the next one you are able to do.  They stay in your quest list and you can go back to them when you are ready.

  • Yeah, I did that Shmoopie, but then I felt like I didn't get another quest offered to me very fast...sorta like the Magic Rock was miffed that I dare ignore a quest he gave me. :) Maybe this has been "fixed"?

By the way, I just like saying your name. Shmoopie. FUN! :)

  • "  In addition, it may be that some quests are triggered by events such as what objects you have acquired,"

I made a whole lot of spices once when I wanted to collect xp for discovering something "new".   It wasn't until much later that I got a quest to actually make and use those spices.  I can't remember what triggered it.  Some cooking skill no doubt.

  • Oh, on the matter of quests, I'd be curious what triggered the race quests that took you to special maps. My understanding is that you get the next one when you finish the one that came before, but I took a long time getting around to one, the test ended, and then next test it was no longer in my quest list. I really wanted to give it another shot, but I didn't know how to trigger the quest again.

  • Haiku, I heard that they got rid of the race quests in favor of the tickets. So you won't be able to do that any more. BUT: you will be able to buy a ticket and race whenever you please!

  • Ahhh, that's actually handy to know. I remember being delivered tickets for Game of Crowns, but that's a bit different from the race quest I still had left to complete. I guess that means they're no longer quests at all?

I'm pretty abysmal at them, but I really wanted to win so I could feel cheerful about my victory. :C

It sounds pretty sad, huh? ._.

  • @Shepherdmoon: You heard correctly. Race quests were changed to race tickets. When that happened the quests disappeared and you were given five race tickets. Now there are race ticket dispensers where you can purchase race tickets (which I haven't done yet).

  • I am pretty sure the Ghost quest wasn't at 300 streets - I got it at about 281. But I also know I got it as I ended my first visit to Plexus - I suspect that was a factor.

  • Also, I didn't get the Rook Museum quest for aaaaaaages. I don't know what triggered it, but it certainly wasn't an automatic thing.

  • I had been to Plexus several tests ago, and I didn't get the Ghost quest until quite a while after it was introduced.  Going to Plexus is not likely to have played a part or I would have gotten it quite early.

  • Agreed. I had never been to Plexus but I got the quest when it was released into the wild.

  • I had a long stretch of time where I didn't have any quests. I think it was because I was learning a skill that took several hours, and I had already finished the lower-level, entry quests. I asked about this in global chat, and the general consensus was the quests are based on your skill levels.
