what is the deal with cooking?

What is cooking good for? The cost of ingredients and energy cost of cooking don't seem to result in an end product with enough extra energy/value to be worthwhile. (Does anyone have a spreadsheet on this??)

I'm glad that potionmaking involves (albeit limited) use of eclectic food items.

  • lol Are you kidding? It's very profitable for me. Things like meat and grain are practically free resource when you get AK6-7, then you make sammiches and sell them in mass. And I get so much extra meat that I can refill my energy after making a bunch.

I don't know about everyone else but I harvest and grow my own ingredients so I've never had to buy anything.

  • Victoria's data isn't a bad place to start and is good enough for most people, but depending on how much you intend to optimize your processes, I'd recommend doing your own work. For practical reasons, hers [presumably] omits some information which I found to be rather significant.

(And, I'm sure plenty of people will disagree with me, but unless you care about energy density, I recommend staying away from producing awesome stew.)

  • Food is pretty good, particularly the high-end awesome pot foods. Victoria's spreadsheet is a lovely starting point for thinking about it.

  • Plus it's fun! Not to mention, we get so much free energy from new days and other stuff (meditating, quoins, RK, etc) that talking about energy costs isn't as straightforward as it seems. I often do my cooking in the time before a new day and it's basically banking my extra energy as food so I can get the maximum benefit of the new-day energy refill.

  • Yeah, cooking is great fun.  And it has made me one rich glitch.  Prepared food is also great for donations.  In little over a week, I was able to get my full 11 emblem sets with the food I made.

  • Cooking is fun for a while but like so many other things it turns into a chore.

Frankly, nothing provided as good a energy spent to energy gained ratio than having AK7 and just eating raw meat.

Problem is, meat takes up a lot of space.  Converting it to Awesome Stew allows you to carry around a great deal more energy replenishment per slot.

Of course, you can just buy stacks of awesome pots if you have an alternative activity that you enjoy and can provide the income needed.

  • Converting meat to Awesome stew means having to scamper all over the world harvesting beans from those ugly trees that look sick and wilted.  And exterminating all other tree types to plant more of them.

Expensive Grilled Cheese for the win.  Learn Remote Herdkeeping and don't keep even a single pig in your house.  Die every night in a no-no crash.

  • I think my inventory consists of about 120+ awesome stews at one single time.  I constantly make it because I have too many pigs at home and grow too many crops.  I think my meat count pile at home is about 600+ now.  LOL

  • Meat is a wonderful item to donate. You can really get a powerful punch from your shrine powder with 600 meats!
