The ability to change your skin color on a color map rather than choosign a pre-defined color.

I think this would be really cool as a subscriber option, to choose your skin from a color ring and then choose the darkness or lightness or saturation of it. The same thing for hair and eyes would be really cool as well, and these features would make it alot easier to match your clothes to you characters color scheme, which could add up to people buying more clothes because they can see more appealing color combinations. And then maybe other types of skin that you could buy, like zebra stripes, or tiger print, or ghost skin that makes you transparent, or polkadot skin, glowy skin etc. I feel like the customization options are really cool and the new ones added for the face make it even better, but just these few changes would an enormous amount of variety and make the individual characters look even more unique. I feel like if this was feasible (I don't really know any of the logistics involved, and I imagine this might be alot harder to implement than it sounds) you could make it apply to atleast certain items as well. I found it very hard to find a matching pair of shoes for my character even with the "Free with subscription" options at my disposal.

  • Read Reamde by Neal Stephenson.
This will lead to inevitable conflict between the brights and the earth-tone coalition.
From the wiki: "Richard is also dealing with the virus and trying to integrate a player-originated schism deviating from hard-coded good and evil character assignments to color-based alignments, the brightly colored graphical character palettes against more neutral earth-toned colors, corresponding roughly to stark versus nuanced points of view."

  • ^ usually sound, sometimes right off the wall. ^

I agree Grupetruge, although as you intimated, it might not be feasible. They may have implemented the fixed palette model too deeply to reverse their error.

  • Darn, I was really liking that idea.

  • They appear to be textures (images) rather than solid colors, but it seems reasonable that solid colors could also be supported.

  • I think the names of the colours are hilarious, and for that reason alone can stay as a palette =)

  • Jono has pallete shift logic in the client already, so its possilbe technically to use the existing textures.

Not commenting on veracity, just feasibility.

  • This came up waaaaay back when, although not with patterns, and the idea was nixed by stoot.

After a few minutes searching forums, I came up with this:

We will have lots more colors available, but it probably won't be a free-form picker: given the way the coloring happens, a huge amount of the color space gives really bad results. Also, it is very likely that free players will have a vastly-reduced palette to choose from, vs those who subscribe ;)
