Hopes for more peace and good will in Wickdoon Mood

On a deadend street very near my house in Groddle Meadow, 4 wood trees were long ago planted in the 4 tree spots by a group calling itself Wickdoon Wood Preserve. Recently, some kind of wood tree war has broken out with a couple of avatars poisoning all the wood trees in Glitch, including those on Wickdoon Mood.

Anyway, people in WWP (a group that now includes me) have been hearing a lot of feedback form the community about wood trees on Wickdoon Mood. Obviously people with wood quests like to be able to find at least one wood tree in very good condition somewhere. On the other hand, a street with only wood treees means that pigs will starve unless fed.

I proposed to the WWP group, and so far everybody in the group liked the idea, that in the future we try to keep 3 wood trees only in Wickdoon Mood. When I say "try to keep" I mean that other players obviously also have quests to kill trees, plant trees, etc. Other players have just as much right to poison a wood tree and replace it with another bean tree as I have to poison a bean tree and plant a wood bean, on any public street in Glitch including Wickdoon Mood.

So I can't dictate to anybody what trees they should or shouldn't poison, but I personally would like to respond to those who worry about hungry pigs while keeping a few wood trees in good condition in one public and predictable deadend street.

///Correction (see below): I was mistaken: Wickdoon Mood got its wood trees before any group formed to promote them. See for instance www.glitch.com/locations/LC...

  • Neutrality or not aside, the point remains: players should be careful not to 'go all mom' on their fellow players. Much as the urge migth be there to scold those who are seen as 'not playing well with others' and put them in timeout, that is no player's inherert right to do. My previous comment was not targeted at any one individual, by the way. Please don't use anything in my comment to focus on any one participant in this discussion. The temptation is there for ALL of us to attempt to bully the discussion in the direction we want it to go. No one person the only one being bossy.

  • I was the person doing the 8 trees in one day quest who asked for help in Live Help because on Dec. 29 there were only 4 wood trees in all of Ur. I don't remember if it was Live Help or Global that explained somebody was killing all wood trees with poison. I hiked to the nearest wood tree, to save my 5 tokens. By the time I got there it was the only wood tree in zoggish, the other 3 had all disappeared from Ur in the 10 minutes it took me to walk to that tree. (Glad I had not walked to one of the others.) I harvested the tree bought a bottle of antidote at the auction thinking that somebody might try to poison this last wood tree. I hung out a while, nothing happened except for a few avatars popping into the street and leaving again. Then I logged off for a bit. When I logged back in, someone had just poisoned the tree. I clicked the tree, Antidote was the option, so I antidoted it. I said why are you doing this? and he said
[name 1 removed by Bluella]  because the group of people who wants to make rules for everybody still exists. [name 1 removed by Bluella]  want to have a battel of poison?

[name 1 removed by Bluella]  i spenta map teleport to get here.
[name 1 removed by Bluella]  if i cannot poison this one here, i will simply go to bortola and posion every tree in mien evoke quarter.
I said, "this is the only wood tree in all of Ur." He said
[name 1 removed by Bluella]  yes, i'm aware of that. that's why i came.
I asked for help in Live Help because it was the only wood tree left. Then  [name 2 removed by Bluella] appeared and poisoned the same tree again. So I antidoted it again. Then glum pudding appeared because I had asked for help in Live Help. It was extremely kind and generous of her to come help someone in distress. Of course from the point of view of  [both names removed by Bluella], they were in distress too because I kept antidoting the tree they were killing.

I did not Block/Report  [name 2 removed by Bluella] because it seemed to me he was just there as  [name 1 removed by Bluella]'s  little helper. I did report  [name 1 removed by Bluella] and absolutely nothing happened as a result, so presumably what he was doing was nothing wrong.

Anyway, it was not really such a biggy as I thought then to have all wood trees poisoned, because lots of people keep on planting new ones. I was advised later that when doing the 8 in one day quest you should definitely start by doing the wood tree, so you don't waste time doing the other 7 but finding no wood tree.

Footnote, Apologies if I did wrong by putting the names of the avatars involved into this post. After a reminder from CoreDump I removed them.

notice the [removed by staff] tags in the thread? this isn't the right way to do it

  • @CoreDump My point is not that two people who like to poison wood trees for whatever reason are bad. My point is that Glum Pudding is good.

  • To anyone who thinks "Feeling a little morally superior, are we?" is "assign(ing) a negative attribute to (them) personally," all I have to say is, "If the shoe fits..."

Beyond that, anyone who thinks that dissertation on "obnoxious behavior" is "furthering this discussion in any positive or useful way" is only fooling themselves. If you don't like the discussion, don't read it. If it doesn't apply to you, ignore it. Everyone here has the option to read or not to read any thread in the forums. There are many, MANY in which I have no interest. But they do not "annoy" me. I simply move past them without a care. I feel no need to force my interests on the people who are interested.

For my thoughts on the real subject of this thread, see the following comment. And don't forget to read the embedded link, if you really want to know what I think. If you're not interested, by all means skip this and go read something that DOES interest you. Don't waste your time fretting about something about which you don't care.

Edited to add - Apparently the link doesn't work exactly. My comment is at the top of the following page.

i understand. apologies if i came off as aggressive. friend came over while i was posting and that was all i could get in before leaving :)

  • @Core Dump, I absolutely did not take offense at your comment. Anyone could tell you meant to be helpful and not to be hurtful.

  • Ah, I think I have a better way to say this:

    A) There are game rules

    B) There are morals (e.g. courteous behavior versus rude behavior)

There is no relation between them. "Immoral" behavior, however you happen to define it, is not against the rules. The person who wants to kill every wood tree can do so if they choose. Or someone can play Johnny Woodseed.

[I do find it hilariously hypocritical that someone would whine about some innocuous antidoting, after repeatedly professing their right to poison whenever and whatever they please]

I have a set of morals I play by. I'm happy to respectfully discuss them with whoever wishes to, and I encourage others to do the same. But they are not the rules.

  • Interesting that a post calling for better, more pro-social and more cooperative gameplay behavior on the part of all parties involved (and a post which did not take sides) still inspired butthurt-y, outraged character assassination attempts / redefinition, "spin" and incorrect interpretation of what I actually wrote / amateur (and incorrect) psychology speculation (etc.), and that all such non-productive and borderline abusive responses seem to have come from one "side" in particular.

    Enlightening.

And, as it involves a public street in a game I play, and is causing distress to other people playing the game and reading the forums, it IS equally my business as it is yours.

  • @ Lorelei, I thought you were trying to be constructive and so did many others. It is funny that in a game stressing cooperative play, some of the meanest comments get made to/about people who are trying to play cooperatively or encourage others to try to find more win/win strategies. Because speaking up in favor of friendly game play is all "mom" and dictatorial and bossy and morally superior and we hates it and of course anyone who values anything other than grinding for currants or revenge is just pretending moral superiority because underneath any nice gentleness all apparently "good" actions were dictated by ego and nothing more, therefore how dare anyone suggest kinder actions to others and blah blah blah blah.

  • Sadly Bluella there has been very little kindness happening on this one street. Disheartening isn't it?

  • Yes, I had a very surprising (to me) run in recently on Wickdoon Mood with an aggressive player who was planting cherries and killing wood, you can see what I wrote about it here: http://www.glitch.com/forum/general/15226/

I kept the entire chat log, it was pretty amazing.
Posted 11 months ago by Bluella Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I saw a copy of that chat log from the other side.  Enlightening and not exactly as you have portrayed it...

Lorelie - I don't have a side in this, and your comment seemed preachy to me.  And not actually useful in terms of the subject of the thread.  Unless you call "grow up and do what I say" constructive.  But that's just me.  Oh, and I don't recall Razzalle having a side and s/he was among those who called you out.

  • So last night I stumbled upon a particular Glitch killing all the wood trees on this street. No worries for me. I just logged off and came back on this morning and waaalaaa new wood trees for me to harvest.

I don't get in the middle of it anymore. I used to want to go off. I used to want to cuss them out. But now I just continue on with my game and think to myself there is no reason to let this game upset you over a stupid tree being killed by a certain person.

Obviously they get off on it. They can't get wood themselves lmao!!!!!!!! It's their Viagra.
Let it be. Continue on with your game and let these little limpys continue on.

I can get wood easy! I'm a woman after all.

    =)

  • I have been monitoring wood trees, and excluding backyards and housing blocks there are a total of 9 (nine) wood trees on public streets today.  Are they just unsustainable in their current implementation?
Posted 11 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'll talk to you in game.
Posted 11 months ago by Rook Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Honestly, I'd say yes. We can go on and on about wood being rare because a select few have been poisoning them all, and yeah, that happened. They admitted it. It's not against the rules or anything :P But I digress, yeah wood is hard to keep alive in the best conditions.

Ignoring absolutely all other factors, plant a wood tree on a random middle-street of a busy region, grow it up to four branches and then watch. Should take at most 30 minutes to die. It's just the current proportions :P Most don't have and preference one way or the other about wood, I've gathered, so because it takes 2 pets and waters to go from stump to one branch, and then successively more pets and waters as you try to add branches, they simply die quickly. The renewal provided by pets and waters are simply not equivalent to the removal that harvesting causes.

It's up to the devs whether they should be though :P And honestly, planks are worth so much that it shouldn't be so easy to cough up 20 energy and get 320 currants (value of eighty planks at a tool vendor) and thus we have the current system :P

So, yes, WalruZ, I'd say unsustainable in the current implementation. I'm rooting for a new implementation though :P I, for one, *like* free money.

  • I agree that wood trees are too easy to kill by harvesting, even if you pet and water. Wood trees survive in clumps, not in singletons. Right now there are 3 wood in 4-tree Wickdoon Mood, 4 wood in a 5-tree street elsewhere, and just a very few others. Clumps survive though singletons die because wood trees survive only if people with Fertilidust show up often enough.

Each shot of dust adds 1 branch, each branch adds 20 "planks" to the next harvest. Those 20 planks get you 80c from the tool vendor, maybe more if you sell them at auction. And Fdust Lite costs much less than 80c per shot. So if more of us carry  Fdust Lite in our bags, we can make extra currants while making wood harvests better for other glitchen.
Posted 11 months ago by Dotcom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • And most people don't know a word of what Dotcom just said :P Which is why wood remains 'rare'. Perhaps people ought to advertise that wood is free money? *I* like free money! Doesn't everyone else? A shot of fert lite costs roughly 40 currants, less if you buy on auction. The 20 extra planks you get from each shot are worth 80 :) Double your money!
Posted 11 months ago by Liza Throttlebottom Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Plus, if you're harvesting non-wood trees a lot (particularly bean), you can easily get lots of Fertilidust Lite for free!
Posted 11 months ago by Flowerry Pott Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I DID advertise wood is free money indirectly... and that's why we're here today. lol

    Here's how it goes.

One Wood tree + Max Gardening Skill = 80 Planks * 4 currants each = 320 currants each harvest per tree.

  • I think it would be particularly interesting to see the other in-game trees behave the same as wood trees do now.  If, for example, fruit or beans required 2 waters and 2 pets per 1 harvest, what would happen?     How would glitchen adjust?
Posted 11 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I think it isn't the matter of 2 pets and waters, you'll need 6 pets and waters O_o

Edit, you need 3 pets and waters.

I guess glitchen would have to adjust, but if they see no value in wood trees, then they will not go the extra mile, or take the shortcut of dusting them.

If the balance was disturbed then the logic would be lost.
