Unable to see world

I don't even know how to file an error report when I'm not in world, so I'm posting this here. I've already posted it in this thread, but not sure if it will be seen.

I am using Chrome/Win7 and my screen is white. I can hear music and sounds. I've installed the debugger and did the about:plugins thing to make sure Chrome is using the right kind of flash.

Frustrated, I loaded up Firefox only to have the same thing happen except my screen is black.

What else can I do to get in-world. Or at least to see it?

ETA: Now my Chrome window is black like my Firefox one. I've been trying to get in-world for almost 1.75 hours now.

  • I have the same problem, one out of 10 times, but a complete restart of my browser usually fixes it.  Chrome on Linux

  • I'm back on my laptop playing, and it's doing it again. This sucks.

I guess I shouldn't expect an answer or a solution by now. This has been going on since April and all my questions have been ignored.

  • Jarhaven, I have no idea what could be happening, and my techie skills are not up to date, but my first thought is to see if you have the same problem with other sites that use the same technology, if you can find any. Then if you do, or even if you don't, find a tech forum where there are techies who can help you with this kind of problem.

  • I have had this problem too, on both Chrome and on Firefox. How I fixed it was to completely uninstall Flash and reinstall from the Adobe website. The debug version of Flash did not work for me either.

  • Glitch is the only site I have Flash issues with and oddly, it's only on this particular computer.

  • Does this look like it has anything to do with your problem?

    code.google.com/p/chromium/...

Do you have Windows 7 on the other computers?

  • I want to thank you for your help. This is really frustrating. I just restarted my browser 4 times in a row and the graphic popped up with a huge delay on audio. I want to be fix this so, the next time I'm using this machine, I won't waste 2 hours of my life trying to get into a game.

  • I would just start searching on the Web, with different combinations of words related to my problem, until I find other people with the same problem. Then if the proposed solutions don't work, post the problem in one of those forums.

I've found solutions to a lot of problems that way. Unfortunately not always. Sometimes I find many people who have been having the same problem for years, without anyone ever posting a solution that works for me.

Sometimes it's the simplest thing. For example, last week suddenly I started getting a blank screen when I tried to play, and it turned out to be the Flash Blocker that I had just installed!

  • The desktop is Win7, the netbook is XP. I use Chrome on all 3.

And yes, that white screen is similar, though I'm using the same version of Chrome on all 3 computers.

  • Hi there Jarhaven

You made a followup post to your thread that said you got in, at that point, I assumed the problem was transient, and self fixed- a lot of them are. We're sorry if we had been slow once in awhile (I did answer one of your help cases before, I know that) but we're ramping up coverage in all our areas, forum, in game and help cases with extra help team members we didn't have before, so we aplogise if it seemed we were purposely ignoring you- that's not the case. I've been able to get a lot more posts here this week than than I had before as we were preparing for launch, and we intend to keep that up. Also, there's also an FAQ coming soon that is specifically to try to help troubleshoot stuff like your issue.

Something in addition to some of the other suggestions in the other topic is to try creating a guest account on your system, and log in to it, if case there is the possibility that there is something profile related.

  • An issue might be your local or global settings for flash. I've had that problem before. Additionally you can install under Windows 7 (or earlier), a copy of Ubuntu Linux. It's not supported to the degree by Tiny Speck as Windows or Mac OS X, but it does run. It does require a separate install of Adobe Flash and Java - that actually goes pretty smoothly and easily in practice, but it might be difficult to a newer user to the operating system. I suggest this to eliminate any hidden hardware issues with the machine. I am an IT professional with my own company. I wish I could physically inspect your machine but I doubt that is possible (unless you live close to Kansas City, Missouri). You are free to contact me directly at richard@basketcasesoftware.com

  • Thank you again, for your help everyone. Someone in the other thread suggested I look at my anti-virus, but Glitch isn't blocked on it and I run the same anti-virus on my XP machine.

@kevbob, I know you guys were busy for launch, but this isn't the first time I've asked for help on this issue. I'll try the guest account thing.

@Fokian, I am from KC, but not there, now. I'm going to keep you handy next time family tries to get me fix their computers from 2000 miles away. I don't know about installing Linux on this machine. That maybe over my pay grade. ;)

  • I use a live CD version of puppy linux (I previously used browser linux) to play Glitch. It does run quite well. If you run out of options, you can try those 2 distros. There are a lot of tutorials on the web on how to run live CDs. I believe both have Flash already installed.

As an afterthought, have you tried upgrading you version of Flash? Maybe that would help. Has it always been like this on that particular PC?

  • For anyone who might be having issues with this still, I'm running fully updated Firefox and Flash, and it doesn't work for me normally (Windows 7, my normal admin account.)  But if I switch users and go on the Guest accout, I can play.

In the future since Tiny Speck seems to suspect individual Flash user settings to be a problem, I'd appreciate a tutorial on how to configure my Flash back to whatever settings Glitch likes.  But until then, this seems to be working for me.

  • After trying everything suggested (save the Linux or Ubuntu, ones), it seems that disabling ➭ restart browser ➭ enable ➭ restart computer ➭ enter the world, has worked  for a couple of days. Today, that's not working for me either.
