A Partial List of New Stuff in This Test

1. New maps!

2. Animals now get sad when a location gets too crowded for them. And they complain about it.

3. All achievements now have their own unique appearance (rather than the generic "badge").

4. The tutorial and new user experience flow got a big upgrade (but most of you reading this won't notice till we next reset).

5. Poisoning trees now makes you feel a little bit guilty and if you keep doing it in rapid succession you feel too guilty to continue for a while.

6. A lot of low-level changes to the server which you will hopefully not notice at all (except that delays which are due to the server being slow will happen less often).

7. Some changes to the client software which should improve the performance of loading new street and reduce overall memory usage.

8. Facebook Invitations have been tweaked so that people who originally signed up with just an email address but who have FB friends playing can add the FB information to their existing sign up (if you know someone in that position who you'd like to invite, send them this link).

9. We have started the process of eliminating the old help channel/global chat. The first step was separating it into two channels "Live Help" and "Global Chat". People will repeatedly use the former to achieve the latter's purpose will be prevented in posting in "Live Help".

  • Am I the only one that isn't completely thrilled with the maps?

They look great, but I'm not liking the fact that I can no longer locate an animal good vendor easily :\

nevermind - I now see the indicators... but they're tiny, and very very difficult to pick out.
Posted 20 months ago by fadingfastx3 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The indicators will be changed soon but the longer term solution is that they will exist on layers you can turn on or off, along with a lot of other information.

And, you will be able to search to find that closest vendor (which is a lot easier than mousing all around trying to find one anyway).

  • Glitch is running much smoother than it ever has for me. Fast load times, hardly any lag. Great job, TS.

  • Love layered maps :)

  • Funny, I have the opposite as LBJ. Running IE9 on my game machine and have lag walking and delays bringing up the map. Worst I've noticed in all my tests.

    :(

  • Ooh, like the search for nearest vendor idea!!  And layers!!! Very cool!!

Will the subway stations appear on the map?

  • I love the new maps!  I really like seeing the topography.  I have only one little problem.  Sometimes it's hard to see the icons for the Shrines and Vendors.

  • So apparently one of the changes is also an enormous decrease in the rewards for doing things when maxed out in skills? I petted a pig with maximum animal kinship and only got 4 meat... that's harsh... I'm not sure of the purpose of learning higher skills with these sorts of numbers...
Posted 20 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Shepherdmoon - I've been getting the same rewards I always have - are they crowded pigs perhaps?
Posted 20 months ago by Wren Bramble Subscriber! | Permalink
  • nope--one at my home, with a piggy feeder. And tested it again with one in my housing block, with the same result.

I may or may not have been getting more meat per nibble when I first logged on--I wasn't paying attention. Perhaps a per day limit? That also seems unfair...

--EDITED: logged out and back in again, tried a different pig, and still only got 4 meat. Filed a bug report... I HOPE it's a bug--otherwise, these numbers have been tweaked WAY too low!
Posted 20 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Shepherdmoon- we used to give a bonus on *all* collections of meat from a piggy; now it is not every time.

  • I like all the added features of the new maps, but I find the locations difficult to read.

  • Wait wait wait, you nerfed animal kinship? :(

Love the badges, loathe the maps.
Posted 20 months ago by Lisbeth Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Layered maps and vendor search sounds amazing!! Thanks Stoot, y devs et al!!!
Posted 20 months ago by fadingfastx3 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Lisbeth: didn't nerf it, but fixed a bug where the bonus amount was given on *every* attempt, rather than just a % of the attempts as it should have been.

Which, I guess, nerfs it in *effect*. But, the *intent* wasn't to make the skills any less desirable or good, but just to make the code reflect the design. And *nerfing* kind of implies intent ;)

In any case, you still get a LOT more with the higher level skills. Just not the crazy highs every time.

  • All the new stuff sounds awesome, well done team Glitch! What's not so awesome is I'm at work today. Boo hoo. Would anyone be so kind as to take a photo of the new maps, only if you have a mo. Happy Glitching all....

  • Working hard to learn the game, still haven't got a lot of tasks done yet but working toward it. LOVE the game so far. Having been a devoted Faunasphere player from its begining to its demise, its nice to find a game like Glitch, and I get to interact with some fellow Faunasphere Refugee's also. Great job on the development of the game Glitch. Look forward to membership in the game. :) :) :) P.S earned enough currants to buy a house! :)

  • I keep just getting 4 meats when I nibble piggies and I have Animal Kinship VII

That's a bit shit.  How many do you get with I?  -3?
Posted 20 months ago by shhexy corin Subscriber! | Permalink
  • How often are we suppose to get the rewards when nibbling piggies with maximum animal kinship? I just nibbled piggies 16 times in a row (after petting each one twice to make them happy), and didn't get a single reward (just 4 meat each time). Lots of rewards from squeezing chickens though: 10 grain each time and a special item fairly often (music block, food, etc.).

I may not go to the effort of learning animal kinship VII next reset if this is all we get--I'll just stick with VI so I can get remote herdkeeping. Spending all that time learning a higher level skill should make things alot easier, in my opinion, not just an occasional reward 1% of the time (or whatever the percentage is--I haven't encountered it yet after over 20 nibblings where I was paying attention, so I have no idea).

At the level I'm at it takes 64 raw meat to fill my energy bar, and I can use up all my energy very fast with certain activities, so I don't think it's unreasonable to allow higher level players to easily obtain large amounts of food.

EDIT: just found a piggy that gave me 16 meat. That took alot of nibblings (maybe 30?)

  • If we choose not to play through Facebook is there still a way to invite friends?
Posted 20 months ago by Leithwyn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I love the new maps, and while people might not like the decrease in animal goodies, I think it helps to balance the game. It was too easy to stock up at higher levels before. You could gather tons of piggy meat in only a few streets, especially if you stopped by Marylpole Mount. All in all, love the changes.
Posted 20 months ago by Jade Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm Ok with that Jade: I'd rather get big rewards for learning very high level skills (7th in a series!) so that I don't have to use up all my time gathering meat and can focus on other parts of the game.
Posted 20 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • how do you soothe the piggies so they stop complaining? :(

  • I love the new in game calendar menu with the countdown of daily allowances of meditation and qouins.
Posted 20 months ago by MaryLiLamb Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm with the others about not liking the little bit of food that we are now getting even tho we're at a higher level in the animal skills.
Even the trees seem to be chintzy, now.
I don't want to be spending all of my game time trying to collect enough items that'll only give me 2 mins of actually getting to enjoy the parts of the game that are my favorites.
I only have one more Animal skill level to learn and with the time it now takes to learn it...not sure if the time to learn vs the extra benefits from it are going to be worth it.
It seems the food skills are taking a harder knock than the rest of the rest of the skills are. :(

I REALLY love the way you have the help channel set up, now...instant (and very much appreciated) help without having to hope that your cry for help doesn't get lost in all the chatter. Very nice!!

Hate seeing the depressed critters, tho...made me cry when I couldn't do anything for them...was running around using that pink powder stuff to try to cheer them up (It didn't work, tho :( ).  ;(

  • Sounds like the animal and food rewards could use a little more balancing. I agree that I was getting over-rewarded at a point and it made things a bit boring/pointless. That said, there is alot of effort to gain these skills and they should be rewarded. Maybe for higher skill levels you up the minimum slightly (5 meats, 6 meats, 7 meats) and give the big bonus according to your secret algorithm. (It's always a secret to ppl who don't do math.)

  • Maps, I loved seeing the topography, awesome stuff, hated the streets were so hard to see and the new projects even harder, but excited about the layers as that should help plenty.

Like sgjo I got upset to see the sad animals especially the butterflies, oh gosh to see them on the ground *sniffle * but after speaking to you I understand how it should work out so I try not to be too upset.

Poisoning penalty - yes I'd want it to be harsher, or for there to be a way to have a tree or a few trees spared from this.

The overall performance was so much better for me, only a couple reloads and a problem with a popup (bug report sent on that) but all in all so very much better this time*

I was also disappointed with the amounts of meat from piggie nibbling I have AK 7 and four meats per nibble (for most nibbles) seems poor after all the time taken to learn it.
Posted 20 months ago by Faereluth Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hmm. I just learned AK V during this last test and yes I got 3 meats consistently but I did see rewards of 6 often and I swear I even saw some 9 meats from nibbles. Did any one else?

And some other skill (Gardening 3?) doubled my rewards from trees from 6 per harvest x2 to 12 per harvest and the occasional 24 per harvest. What were the rewards for that before this update?

  •    OMG!! I am loving everything so far...and learning how to use the maps was the most valuable lesson my friend Joo's
( thanks joos ) taught me, without that skill I would have got nowhere.

Anyway reading all about how everyone loves the new maps, I just had to come in and say ...Huhhh ???
I love the maps , and use them constantly throughout my game play, including this last test we just had,
and well quiet frankly...I didn't notice....anything new about them :-| lol

  • Mary.... we *were* getting the max (16 meat per nibble with AK7) each and every nibble. Now it appears we have a random 1 in 5 chance (that's what my percentages worked out to) to get the max, and any variable in between... this actually applies to meat, trees (previous max of 24), and mining (the amount you mine in a single action varies, but the rock still holds 50).

Crystal... before this test, the maps were a flat color per region, they now have texture and more tweaks to the 'layers' of the map can be expected soon : ) They really are fab though!

Just from my 'new' experience in the game, learning the maps and 'setting destinations' ,to finding the shrines and vendors was the biggest breakthrough for me.Once i had that set,i didn't feel so 'lost' anymore..:))
