Future of Currants

So, now that we've had the awesome R3 release...I guess I'm left scratching my head at the need for currants...we don't need them to buy houses anymore, and there is currently nothing we can purchase for our houses with currants (was hoping some of the outdoor cultivation items would require currants)...the only current currant sinks seem to be:
1) cubimals
2) rare items (or other needed items) on the auctions/in the marketplace
3) party packs
4) leveling
5) tithing icons

After you manage to buy all the baseline tools/items that you need...I'm not sure there are too many other uses for large amounts of currants at this point other than the things mentioned above.  So, is there some plan for more uses for currants?  Will we be able to exchange currants for iMG at some point (I thought some of our currants were originally supposed to be converted to iMG, but this didn't seem to happen)?  Will there ever be more things to buy for currants?  Will they eventually be phased out (I don't see this happening completely since we probably need some form of in-game 'currancy')?  But what's the point of having currants now?  I have over 350K, and I'm at the point of stopping selling things for currants since there really isn't much else to buy right now...guess I'm now turning into a hoarder since I don't see much use in selling what I'm gathering...I really thought we'd see some additional uses for them with all the upgrades - guess I was surprised we didn't have anything to use them on.

ETA: Leveling, tithing icons, and buying needed items (items in italics are the changes since OP).

  • i just tithe my icons with them. and buy things at the vendor to donate when i'm a little low on img. not much use for them, yes, but i don't think that'll change.

  • I agree with you b3achy!  While I am thrilled with all the updates, I feel that the lack of items that can be purchased with currants (I have over 800k) has been overlooked.  I tithe my icons, buy stuff I'm too lazy to make (awesome stew & EP) but that doesn't even put a dent in what I have left.

  • I bought some cigars with them...Montechristo, which are decent.  They are not always constructed the same, but the quality of the leaf is not bad.

Ashton cigars are mild and constructed a little better, I think.

  • Currants are also handy if you're heavy in the cooking skills, because most of the items offered by the grocery vendors aren't available elsewhere. (Honey's also needed for butterfly eggs.) And there's the purchase of fox bait too. And the initial tool purchases, and the machines. I also like having some on hand for auctions, because I've had times where I've needed an item and didn't want to spend the time to gather the resources myself.

I do find I spend imagination more than currants, but the only real difference pre and post R3 for me is that I can now spend my HP on upgrades and actually decorate my house, when before the only other thing I was using currants for was buying a new house. I do use currants a lot more for tithing to icons because I can get good energy/imagination shots from them.

I wouldn't be adverse to getting more items that require currants, even a few wardrobe/house design items that require currants rather than credits.

  • All my currants died. I don't think there's enough sun in the backyard.

On a stranger note, I do seem to have a pet  stag now. in the heart of the city no less...

  • You're coming at this as a long term player. How else would you get any of the new house stuff if you had not had time to learn all the skills. Junior players need to earn currants to get most things in game. The bonus TS is giving you as a long term player is that you can craft most things. I'm sure with time TS will think of more things to spend your currants on, especially furniture and toys. Also you could be philanthropic and create some in game fun spending that cash on party packs and things for others.

  • I thought we were going to have some of our currants turned into iMG. I have tons of currants which I use to buy to stuff when I'm too lazy to get excited and make things.

  • I notice you're level 23, b3achy. One of the best sinks for currants is leveling, through buying raw ingredients from auctions to craft into stuff to donate.

  • I spend my currants mostly on things to help me with my badges. e.g. potion supplies and no-no. But I can no longer do that as I recently purchased a GNG for 700k in hope that it will increase in price drastically so I can make a profit =)

  • Often I can't get something on my own so I buy it at the auction. For example I know there is a way to collect snails but I've never seen a sloth and I'm not sure how that works so I just buy them. I only have two or three hours per week to play and I spend most of that time gardening to make currants so I can buy the things I want.

  • Currants are also useful to actually BUY stuff you NEED on auction; needn't be top shelf.

  • Yea, I guess I didn't make it very clear...I get that you can buy regular stuff that you need...but the point was that the larger currant sinks are pretty limited right now. I also meant to include that we can use them to buy stuff for others (especially newbs' welcome bags, etc. when we go out of beta again)...but it just seems like even with all that...there aren't many uses for large amounts of currants at this point.

Since I tend to be a gatherer, I tend to avoid overpriced items on the auctions - would rather make it myself; and if anything, am one of those that likes to help deflate highly overinflated prices by offering items at more reasonable prices after I've made them...but that will just earn me more currants which I don't really need at this point.  Oh, I'm only level 23 since I'm not into the leveling thing (been here since late Alpha), but I can see how having currants would help with that activity. I don't do the icon thing either, so didn't know about that. (Updated original post to include both of them).

In the past, we had street projects that would help me spend my currants, but we don't know if or when those might be back, so that's yet another currant sink that we once had, that we currently don't have.

Just seemed like there would still be a need for larger amounts of currants after the awesome changes, but I guess maybe we just haven't seen everything implemented yet.

  • well with the move to iMG comes those brain capacity cards... And since its gonna take new players a bazillion years to learn everything we already no then the currants will be needed to buy things they dont have the skills to learn.
My big currant sink right now is fuel cells. Those things are expensive!!! So yeah. I haven't been back in game since I finished learning this skills but yeah. Example =)

  • " Will we be able to exchange currants for iMG at some point"

Yep, you mentioned it already. Tithing Icons is one of the best available currant to iMG converters available.

  • Yup. Having a full set of icons brings me in at least 400 iMG per icon per game day minimum. :) keeps me creating my yard and house.
