Larger Than Modern House?

A previous post mentioned wanting a large modern house (the 50k one) to become available...  You want that to happen?  All they need to do is make a couple more tiers above 50k and just watch as those of us with 50k houses jump ship to buy the new most expensive house.  :)

For all reasonable purposes (some special purpose houses aside) most people aren't ever going to downgrade their houses.  New people often shuffle through lower grade housing on their way up, but when you have a 50k house where do you go?  Well, simply, you don't go.  So they sell out and none are left for those seeking to acquire them.

Try not to laugh, but I've been saving up for a while now in fervent hope that they will decide to produce three new housing tiers:  100k / 250k / 500k  It's my opinion that these houses do not need to be much larger than the large modern house, they simply need to provide missing services.  (Really who would want a house as long as a street anyway?)  For example, add some herb plots (I don't particularly care about changing plot types as discussed in another thread)?  How about a small cave-like basement for egg trees and dark or swampy things.  Obviously the tiers need to each add something, but they already have in the game most of the things I'm looking for, just not all in one place.   Even if that one place is super expensive.  At my current financial status I couldn't afford a house in those tiers, but I would sure like to have a goal to save up to.

Also while I'm on the topic, an NPC powered moving service would be fantastic.  I own something like 50 bags now and that means moving will be a nightmare...  Especially if I'm in a rush to buy a new top tier house before they are all gone.

Anyone with me?  :)

  • I have downgraded not one, but twice.

Right now I have over 100k on hand and bags full of high end gems. On the floor of my 15k cottage are piles of ingots and I have a cubi addiction.

Two times I bought a 50k home. Once I made it a week before I moved. I might have stayed if it had more features. They do come on the market, you just have to keep refreshing.

  • Save all those currants for housing customization rather than a new house (unless there's other types of housing you'd want to live in with customization). :)

  • I don't want a bigger house. I do want more storage cabinets but that's all.  I like being in the bogs and don't even want to have vegetable crops.

I like that different regions grow different things and that even though I can get all the skills and make everything

for myself I still have to depend on others in the world for most food crops.

If they do allow homes in the bogs to be expandable I hope they will remember to include those of us who live in lofts.  It would be easy enough to add another "floor" to my loft and wouldn't even have to effect the outside appearance of the building.

But I really want cabinets, not floors.

  • Your solution doesn't really solve the issue you're addressing. Just adding 100k or 500k houses just means folks want those houses instead -- especially if you can have every type of tree and garden. I mean, who would want a 50k house then? You say so yourself.. " just watch as those of us with 50k houses jump ship to buy the new most expensive house." So folks looking to buy the "most expensive house" will just be griping that there are no available 100k or 500k houses on the market.

And, like others have mentioned, I downgraded from my 50k modern house in beta to a 7.5k bog house that I like much much more -- a view & bit more yard space would be nice, just not nice enough to give up the three floors, four rooms, and rocky tiered yard (small as it may be). Oh, and table dancing. Can't forget the table dancing. Someone offered me 65k to move the other day, 'twasn't nearly enough :)

  • Hrrm.  I went from a 50k home in Alakol to a 5k bog home, because I just like the aesthetics better.  And I like the music more.  And I couldn't stand the sheer SIZE of the 50k.  And how sterile it was.

If a 50k firebog-style home gets made I *might* go there... but :: shrugs :: for now I'm happy in my 5k home.  :: loves ::

  • Agreed with Treesa. More storage options would be more important than more floor space, just to support our hording habit. Maybe if additional floorspace meant like a kitchen (with a pantry we can store food in), an attic (for everything else)... Though it sounds like it'd cost several more hundred thousand, a new money goal would be nice. :p

  • I'd go to a bog mansion in a hot second- I also had a 50K in Andra and I liked the space, but the monochrome Ikea-gone-wild decor wasn't for me, so I bought a 7.5K in Shimla Mirch, then Kalavana... unless there are other regions that open I find more interesting, I don't see myself leaving the bogs, either.

  • New houses are added regularly as new quarters and regions are added to the game. The idea that there are never going to be anymore 50k houses (or any other model) now that these have been bought is untrue.

That being said, I want bigger houses as well. I think better than a new tier of housing is the housing upgrades discussed in the latest blog post. Seriously exciting house.

It will probably very possible to upgrade an existing home to a 100k home or higher.
Posted 13 months ago by Xev Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I don't mean to be a stickler here, but I think my point has been kind of missed.  I totally never said that 500k houses wouldn't have the same problem 50k houses have now.  In fact, I'm positive it'll be the exact same problem, but at a different price point.  I only made mention that the addition of new housing levels would free up 50k houses for those that want them.  I also conceded downgrading to special purpose houses right in my original post, which is what most of you appear to have done.

I'm totally not upset about this, I really only want to see new and fancy housing levels.  I agree completely that the modern house is quite stark and lacking in proper features for its price point.  In my opinion, it's 45k worth of nearly useless floor space that can be used to pile your stuff on and 5k worth of cool stuff.  As noted by several of you, there are certainly better feature/price point combos.

Most of us in this conversation are approaching what I lovingly refer to as the "end game content."  We've taken to daily mining runs or spice runs or whatever suits us for entertainment.  We have very few skills left to learn and they all take ages to finish so we aren't getting new quests to do.  We pick over the badge list for ideas for new goals.  We have big houses, impressive cubimal collections, and frankly aren't sure what to spend our money on as it piles up.

So without picking any fights or starting silly flame wars, who else would like to see new and interesting housing options (entirely new and upgrade options)?

  • Amen.

I just started on the 9th, and am just level 16 but have plenty of currants.  For those of you who so quickly remind us noobs how easy it is to refresh the browser and magically get one of these awesome houses - either a 30 or 50k with a water view or what most people seem to want in a funly decorated 15k groddle place - perhaps you haven't tried this lately.  I've been refreshing all day for days now.  Working at home has perks ;)  Only once did I see something even close to what I wanted - a not terrible $30k in Bortola.  This is still sub par but I immediately sprang to action.  In the next minute it took me to log in to the game to teleport and get the 3 things I had in my cabinet the property was sold.  At this point I never even go to my house and take everything with me in hopes of something I want popping up on the market.  I'm not a fan of the nomadic lifestyle.  There will only be more players coming.  This will not get better.  I don't know how many houses these street project create, but unless it's massive, and they aren't mud huts with no view/decent configurations like is currently out there, I highly doubt it will keep up with the new user base.  I completely agree with the OP on all counts.

    1) Configurable/upgradeable house options is magic beans
    2) New types of houses would be fantastic (esp. more of the fun stuff in groddle)
    3) I'm new but already feel this end gameishness because it will take me 60 days (I used the achivement tool to figure that out) in the fastest possible configuration to get all the skills and there's not much in the way of goals for me right now except mine lots of rock in order to purchase nothing interesting.  I also think it's WAY too easy to earn money at the level I'm at.  I imagine it just gets moreso later on.  Having something to do with it other than survival would be greatness.  House stuff would be fun :)  More random quests would also be excellent!

A 500k Ix decorated party house?!  With a pool and a slide?! I'm in ;)
Posted 13 months ago by Orange Jello Subscriber! | Permalink
  • We should protest.  I'm thinking of becoming homeless and nomadic too, though I don't really want an upgrade that badly, and it wouldn't be a 30k or 50k house for me; they and the blocks they're on are too sterile for me.
Posted 13 months ago by Zauberberg Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Orange Jello - I'm not saying it's easy. It took me a few weeks to find the cottage I wanted in beta, I fully accept it's tougher now. There are way more people playing!

But the point stands - the game is always being expanded, and new housing is added regularly. The updates are simply being staggered as other stuff is in development.
Posted 13 months ago by Xev Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Zaub - ditto.  I'd prefer the fun cartoony groddle cottage locations first, but that's like wishing for the moon to be made of cake and a  reallllly tall elevator by my back door.  So the second option is the spacious sterile thing by the water. I just can't handle deserts lol  I'd be cool with the bogs too, but it will be somewhere in the next 2 months before I could use literally anything in one of those houses hahaha

Xev - Hopefully ur right!  More hopefully they will provide a challenging mechanism of upgrade that can't all just be bought with cash the day they release it so there is something fun to work towards :)

  • The large loft homes in the bogs seem to be the most rare. Each of the handful of loft buildings has a few large apartments.   They sold out a few days before the official launch.  I got one of the last two or three that were available.  I like them because they are on public streets and not in their own quarters.   Would love to have one close to the subway but you know, there is only one or two of those and they got snatched up quickly.   Interestingly, they sold out quickly when they were priced at 10k,   then someone noted that that they had the same amount of space and same layout as the standalone 7.5k bog homes so TS dropped the listing price (they did refund me the 2000 I would have lost by selling it at 60 percent of what I paid instead of the promised 80 percent) even though there were none left for sale at that point anyway.   I haven't seen any listed since but I don't check every day.
Posted 13 months ago by Treesa Subscriber! | Permalink
  • BTW, the real estate pictures of the buildings that hold the loft apartments seem to be wrong.  They don't look like that from the outside.  They don't have those legs you see in the picture.  They seem to be a lighter colour too.

  • @Ralis I really wish I could do anything like that.  I own about 40 bigger bags at this point.  They sit happily in my storage cabinet and on my person attempting to organize my life.  Without my house I'd lose well over half of my accumulated stuff, and frankly that would be no fun at all.

Which is part of the reason I'd love to see an NPC powered, for-pay, moving solution implemented.  I don't really trust a collection of random glitches to help me move (no offense guys) and my buddy list doesn't have enough people I know in real life to help me move all my stuff in one go at it.

I'm not a huge fan of the style though as it doesn't seem quirky enough to be part of what is quite a quirky game. As it is so close to the savannah, it's a pity the houses don't have a more 'African' twist to them. I'd love a house like those you see in the distance on Ix.

@Treesa: Those bog loft houses are pretty cool. I was really surprised to see houses right on public streets like that! I was eyeing a 7,500 bog house for a little while, but haven't bit yet. One of the downsides of the bog houses now is that, aside from the herb plots, most of the special stuff you can get with them is only really useful for street projects. They looked super appealing to me in Beta when there were tons of projects, but now having my own jellasics and barnacles is meh.
