forced move when harvesting/mining

Is it necessary to move the Glitch to the side when mining or harvesting a tree?

It's especially annoying on the Spice streets, where moving you to either side can highlight a second tree.  It's also annoying when you're mining near a ledge and whipping out your pick shoves you off the side of a cliff.

I always find myself recentering my Glitch, even when it isn't necessary, and it feels like I'm fighting the interface.

When you see this at a specific spot, please let us know where exactly, so we can fix it. The moves themselves aren't a bug, but we do try to position objects so you don't interact with another or fall off a spot.

  • Well, the trees on the Spice streets are easy examples, but as for rocks, there's a hunk of sparkly on a little platform at the bottom of Bishop's Arch that has this issue. I just went there to check it out, but it's been mined away for the moment.

I'll have another look later when I have more time.

What's the rationale for the move, by the way?

  • Also I should note that Bubble trees are slim enough that the little square dance can put you out of range of the tree, which means to interact with it again, you have to move a little towards it then get automatically moved back again, etc.

It's obviously not the end of the world or anything, but I personally find it annoying when the interface steals control from the player, especially to make things more inconvenient.

  • I've noticed this on West Spice harvesting the trees by Helga.  You get moved so that instead of having one tree highlighted, two are.

  • In the Spices and some of the vertical mining areas: you are mining and all of a sudden you are harvesting the tree below you.

  • I got dropped off more than one platform in Pollokoo today. It's especially a problem when I'm mining with another player and have to move or mouse-click to highlight the rock itself rather than their avatar.

  • The tree at the far left of Malaren Urge will push you off the little platform if you try to interact with it from the right.  It's pretty easy to deal with, but it highlights the purposelessness of the move.

The game doesn't move you when you interact with a pig or a chicken, why annoy the player with trees?  A player typically lines up in a certain spot to make sure he's interacting with the right thing, so even when it doesn't throw you off a cliff, it often leaves you on top another nearby item, forcing you to go through a list menu.  The menu can often be avoided just by respecting the player's input and doing the thing he most likely meant to do.

  • The only reason I can imagine for this movement is to clear the way for other players to click the same object. But this could be achieved with a narrower move. And it's not needed in my own yard, where I always miss the bubble tree and pet piggies instead.

  • The first four trees in west spice are close enough so that when you harvest one you get moved to where you have two highlighted when you go for the next harvest.

  • There's tons of barnacles that force you to fall off a platform if you're on the wrong side.

  • Forced moving in general is annoying, and as it has been pointed out, puts players on top of each other, increasing difficulty in selecting a target. The spice streets in Ix are my classic example.
With so many people in the way, I've learned to run at a tree, jump and spam the W key to get the menu for just that tree, then tap H to harvest without needing to use my mouse, or dig through the popup menu asking me to select a target.
Unfortunately, I then hit the ground and get shoved between two trees, which also come up logically backward in the menu (especially when the trees are unnamed, so there isn't a sane way to disambiguate), so that I find myself harvesting a different tree than the one I wanted to select.

    It's a little annoying.

  • Trees in my Groddle Meadow House also do this.

Oh, and as a slight variation on the problem, I've noticed some rocks in the new mining areas make you move so you are no longer hi-lighting the original rock (you are not near enough anything else to be selecting something else, but it does mean you have to move back each time to mine).

Definitely agree about it being an annoying interface trait, and would be very happy if it could be solved.
