There are not that many of them and Groddle is convenient. There are more sold in Groddle Meadow but there were a lot more to start with. There are only about 400 homes in the Heights. The Meadows has almost 1700, of which 1500 are sold. I did not count the Forest, but it is a bit different ambience.
1. Groddle Island is currently the place people start in the game. I'm sure people have just jumped in the bought the first place they could without exploring all the areas in the game.
2. The combination of light and dark patches in a single home is very nice. Even in my house in Alakol, the ability to grow an egg tree is greatly missed.
3. By placing your animals on the rock ledge, don't you in effect provide yourself with a self-styled pen? Someone would have to confirm that for me, I think.

Actually, there are a number of start streets outside of Groddle. They were added the 2nd or 3d day after opening. So all the people who jump in and buy a place without exploring are not choosing Groodle. They're choosing housing all over Ur.
New players are starting now in Bortola and Salatu, as well as other areas. I actually tend to think that it's returning beta players that are gravitating to Groddle, because that was the only starter area for so long. It's got some kind of primordial draw, even more so than the so-called "nostalgia lands".
As for Heights houses...an eggplant AND a veggie garden? Win win...
I picked Groddle Heights because of the ability to have an egg plant, veggie garden, close proximity to vendors that I use a lot, and the subway right outside my door.
I second everything everyone has said above. I love Lethensome Lift, and highly recommend it. Tallish Crest is nearly identical and contains a subway on the same plot. I like the privacy of Leth Lift.
2 light patches and 1 dark patch wins it for me. And I put my pigs upstairs and drop my stuff downstairs so no pigs eat anything, because they cannot climb the ladder downstairs.
Huge fan of the heights. Really centrally located as well. Seemingly equidistant to the caverns, the spice streets, and the ancestral lands.
I chose Groddle Heights because of the central location. I chose this house specifically for the dark patch and access to piggies. (nom nom)
I also LOVE the subway location.
If you like mining but don't always feel like hoofing it to the caverns, there are a few decent mining areas in the Heights, as well.
@Poppy yes I forgot to mention that too... neighborhood streets have lots of metal and the heights can have a variety of mining. An added benefit if you want just a little mining for ancillary activities.
I bought the same house I started with in beta because it was so perfect for me. The features of the house make it really convenient plus the block holds quite a few resources. Then, I leave the Quarter and I can do a bit of mining, find some guano, or hop on the subway all within a few blocks. There is usually a crab hanging around the Heights. And, of course, now I have a lot of my friends on my block so we can hang out and make faces at one another and cause each other to laugh hysterically. I really missed this house when I upgraded during beta and the devs are going to have to create something much better than what is out there now for me to feel tempted to upgrade this time around.

Yeah, you're not kiddin'. Very interesting. Hopefully that's something the devs/artists will notice.
+1 JumpUpHigh. I have looked at all of the housing options out there and I don't think I will upgrade for a VERY long time, if at all. For 4K I got a house with a dark patch and everything else I need. The only thing that I would like would be an animal pen, but I don't like the houses that include a pen.
I am yet another Glitch who loves their hobbit hole at Leth Lift. I didn't like how busy Tallish Crest is all the time, so it was the perfect alternative. Not the central hub of the region, but not really off the beaten path, either. I am not surprised the Heights is completely full now. I'm saving up through mining, but I can't say I am in love with the 30-50k houses nor do I want to move right away. I'd consider a place in Andra because I love the savannah locale. Hoping for something super awesome in Uralia one day, but until then, I'm staying put.
