Whats the best way to make money on glitch anymore?

The last time I played was almost a year ago then the best way was to mine sparkly rock but I don't see anyone mining much anymore so whats the best way to make currants now?

  • You won't see people outside their home streets much now, unless they're selling/dying in Cebarkul or quoin-sharding. Especially that making yellow crumb seeds is the most profitable atm (though only for a day or two more, Stoot's already acknowledged that they're going to nerf that), and the home garden is best for this.
Other than that? If I recall correctly, it was animal stuff. Check Mathemaglitch, there were articles on this topic over there. ;)

  • Assuming you are not caught up on new skills or upgrade cards and are trying to make some quick cash in a basic way, I would say to go gather guano.  It's a totally boring job that nobody wants to do, but all the new potions use a lot of it. A stack of guano on the AH will net you about 5000c, minimum.

  • It was yellow crumb. It could still be guano but that's gonna drop off now that herb gardening isn't going to be nearly as profitable.

The new best way is same as the old: nibbling pigs. Sparkly was never very efficient.

  • Oh yeah, relevant PSA: seed shucking is officially getting nerfed.

    Edit: hasn't happened yet

  • There are lots of people in Ur outside of Cebarkul and home streets, especially in the new bouncy areas. I don't think people are staying in nearly as much as when the new housing came out.

Not all the new potions with PM3 use guano- only one of them does. It does use a lot of guano, though.

  • Yeah but guano and potion prices are tied to YC prices. The price of guano will crash.

With the new shuck rate a plot of yellow about 290 (though with half of all plantings being less than that) as opposed to 611 per plot.

If you're buying at 125 (5K/40poop) your profit is now 140 down from 460. Considering how much time and how grindy it is...people won't buy that high.

It'll be interesting to see how low it goes  :)

Re: Potions, 11 gardens of yellow profit will be 47,850 (Have already taken out replant costs)

At list price for all the potions (12,400) it'd still be worthwhile. However! list price has dung kicker for 26c  per replaced guano. So...far too low. Right now the cheapest prices in towers has the potion cost at 53,500.

Which leaves 47K in profit right now...but would be a loss with the 1.3 shuck. All the potions will crash along with the ingredients to make them. Guano and probably dung-kicker will continue to sell at lower prices but c'mon harvesting is so fast that I expect to see many-harvest disappear from regular AH rotation.

  • Am I the only person who planted yellow without guano? I have 90 herb plots -- faster growing stuff like purple goes in during the day when I'm online, yellow and silver go in at night when I'm sleeping or in the morning when I'm gone all day and I come back to grown herbs.

  • guano on yellow is only when you want to make tons of money fast. And when you're going to be online to do the grind.

Humbabella has done a post on yellow v. purple. And for casual herb growing purple is just as good.

But if you're trying to get the most currants possible then harvesting your own guano and going in 20 minute grinds is the way to do it. Not an enjoyable way to play for any length of time.

But I agree that an occasional mad rush is always fun, so long as it is brief. :)

  • I just plant Yellow for my main source of income. But money isn't that important in Glitch to begin with.

  • Not the market, that's for sure. =/

  • If "best" means maximum currants with minimum time and effort, I think the "best way" changes with changes in the economy and also depends on how often and how long you play.

Another way to approach it is to find a reasonably profitable activity that you enjoy doing and that fits well with your playing schedule and style. For example, I find mining in certain areas to have a more predictable rhythm than any other activity I've tried. This means I can do it while talking on the phone, updating software, etc. When I need to do those things, mining is my "best" way of earning currants, since the alternative would be to not play Glitch at all.

Maybe try some different things, keeping a record of time spent and currants gained, to find out what works best for you.
