More expensive status items. Like 100,000+ currant houses. Maybe even a 500k currant manor or 1mil estate.

There's honestly not a lot to save up for in this game. It used to be that you could dump your currants into XP via donations or ice, but now that those have been nerfed you just sort of derp around with your currants and let them sit there.

larky lion managed to earn enough currants for an Alakol house through one day of playing. That's supposed to be the amazing showoff house. If you can reach that in one day of playing, what are we supposed to do after 30 days of currant gaining?

Even FarmVille had the villa, which took weeks to get in spite of it being such a low-commitment game. Glitch has... cubimals? For now, that's about it.

  • increasingly expensive status symbols do not an endgame make.

the house is just a shell. eventually we will be customizing it. that'll require more money.

the game is just a shell. making the shell bigger doesn't address anything. giving us stuff to fill the shell with is superior to taking the current gameplay structure and "pumping it up".

  • landmarks are satisfying to a lot of people.

the 50k alakol mark was extremely gratifying to cross. they "do not an endgame make" for you, but they do for a lot of other people.

  • satisfying is irrelevant to whether it makes for sustainable end game play.

if the ongoing interest of glitch is progressively more expensive housing, it won't have much ongoing interest.

  • satisfying is very relevant to whether it makes for sustainable end-game play. I mean, what the hell does "sustainable end-game play" mean otherwise.

customized housing is included in "progressively more expensive housing", by the way; it's just a difference of being big-ticket or not.

  • Customized housing sounds more interesting than more expensive housing to me. after all, the difference between the 30k and the 50k homes right now are 10 garden plots and one tree plot, and that's not enough for an extra 20k in my opinion.

I get that as a "status symbol" the more expensive it is the more satisfied some players are, but there are a lot of other players that care for customization/uniqueness more than status. Me, for instance :D

  • While I agree that more expensive housing should not be seen as any sort of endgame for Glitch, I am also waiting hopefully for a wider range of expensive properties.  Right now the Alakol house is the only one, and it just doesn't suit my tastes in design at all (well, actually, I think it looks great, I just don't want to live there).  It'd be nice to have something more like a period property mansion or similar, rather than just a clean and swanky modern home.

I have heard tell of customisation being something to look forward to, but can someone point me towards the devs explaining how it may work anywhere?  When I first joined up I assumed things like planks and block-building would eventually be implemented as build-your-own-house materials, but I don't know if they'll move in that direction.

  • I would much rather customize my cave house than buy an expensive villa that has no character. If the endgame was more expensive housing, in a few months everyone would be living in the same McMansions.

  • I don't know about you guys, but getting a series of 50,000-currant cabinets really doesn't have the same "I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING!" feel as getting a 500,000-currant home.

And if not a 500,000 home... I don't know. Something cool. But a series of cabinets is not that.

It's like that time in Pokemon when you caught all 150 and that guy in Celadon City gave you a diploma for it.

  • I'd like to see more expensive housing out. Not just for showoffyness, but just for something to spend currants on, would be great to have more expensive things around to aim for and give people more of a challenge.  I'd also love the ability to have multiple houses.

  • If you think a series of 50,000-currant furniture will make me feel more accomplished and satisfied than a 500,000 currant house, I can tell you that's not the case. It may be the case that you will like one more than the other, but assuming everyone else will feel the same way is projecting your wants on every other player.

  • I would be down for this but for the fact that your house is something that you pretty much use by yourself. Who are you showing-off to?

If you have excess Money and a large amount of storage, do you know what you should do? Buy things off the Auction House. Buy things from NPCs that you want. If you don't need anything, why are you continuing to make money? Give the money away. Money in this game is like Diablo money. Getting a 500k status symbol wouldn't be that. It would just be run of the mill as everyone would get 500k and it would be meaningless.

Personally, I have an apartment solely for the purpose of the cupboard. I wish I would have got one in Greg Grange, but they sold-out FAST! But the one I have will do.

  • That sounds really lame and unsatisfying, Mr. Dawgg. A game where your advancement into the higher levels of play is marked by giving your money away or buying the same NPC/auction items as you always have is a game that will go stale very fast.

  • I think it's getting a but heated in here, first of all. :) Second, I think the customization thing could be SO SO SO much better than a more expensive house if you made your house more expensive by customizing it. :)

For example. You start with a 5,000 home in Groddle Meadow. Not worth much at all really. Not good for a ton either. Not enough patches, storage, garden space, and general roominess. But with endless customization you take, say, 250 bubbles, 50 bricks, 50 AAA blocks and some barnacle talc and that adds another room on, bumping the house value to around 7,500.

Next perhaps you'd spend a couple hundred lumps of earth on 12 more gardening patches and two new tree patches. Suddenly you have the equivalent of a 15,000 top notch meadow home. But it doesn't have to stop with things we've already seen.

Perhaps with an untold number of blocks, planks, and bricks you can add a second level, basement or otherwise, to your meadow cottage making a 30,000 groddle mansion.

The point being that customization can go in so many different directions that it is in no way even COMPARABLE to just being offered more expensive housing.

  • Kai, you missed the part where I said the 50k Alakol mark was extremely satisfying to cross. It's a mark. An accomplishment. What the fuck is your problem with more expensive houses? I liked saving up for a 50k house. I want something bigger and better to save up for. It's a measure of accomplishment. Stop acting like you know what incentivizes me better than I do because you've read basic psychology or watched TED Talks. (And it's not just me. The entire history of MMORPGs shows that large, decisive accomplishments are powerful incentives.)

I don't want to save up for customized basements. OH MY GOD, I FINALLY UNLOCKED THE EXTRA TEN GARDEN PLOTS. There's no "YES, I'VE FINALLY DONE IT!" there. That's a frog-in-boiling water accomplishment.

Do the opponents of expensive houses just buy games and never beat them? "WELL CLEARLY I SHOULDN'T FINISH THIS THING BECAUSE THEN I'D HAVE NOTHING TO DO."

  • Hmm, I do see what you're saying Crepeist. Would your point be that it's better to have one decisive moment of accomplishment over having a bunch of smaller accomplishments spread out such that the result is the same?

Would you say you'd prefer to put 500,000 down for an instant mansion rather than slowly building one up yourself?

I guess it's just two different styles of earning things. :) I hate to disagree but I much prefer a bunch of accomplishments over time to one ginormous accomplishment. But, yeah, I see how milestones could be lost in an endless world of customization.

  • What I'd like to see in my ideal Glitch world is a personal project to expand or improve my house, just like the street projects but only doable by me alone. It would give much more satisfaction than spending an amount of money to buy a bigger house.

  • Kai. Here's your post, word-for-word since you default to "YOU DIDN'T READ IT" regardless of what anyone says:

"my point" (YOUR POINT) "was that obviously you aren't satisfied with Alakol houses, so why do you think that a 500,000 currant house is going to satisfy you" and so on and so on and so on.

Wow, it's exactly what I responded to.
