My son is a freshman in the military academy at NU -- the kids are called Rooks until they are accepted as cadets after their first year of basic, and so on. This is pretty hilarious. At mid-semester break, I got to show my poor game-deprived son (they get very little net access beyond email and web research for classes) the trailer for Glitch and he was like "ZOMG that thing is *terrifying*!" at the Rook at the end of the trailer, after all the chibi cutesy bits in the rest of the clip.
So, The Rook being the collective villain of his mom's current game has become something of a chortle in his unit.
Happily, contrary to some folks' prejudices, military academies are not representative of a failure of the imagination. Joseph and his buds are an amazing and beautiful crew of kids, and are actually part of an experiment in the efficacy of meditation practice in helping reduce the vulnerability to PTSD. I picture them all with swirly blue spheres in basic training... not as Rooks...;)
heh.
