Show date of most recent posting in Group forum

Half the time I join a group only to see that there haven't been any posts in its forum for weeks or months.
I usually have to leave one (or more) other groups just to get this information.  If I could see just the date of the most recent activity in a group, I could make a better informed decision if I want to do the whole join/leave merry-go-round that goes with groups.
It can just be the date, I don't need to see exactly what the group is posting about.

In addition, if there was a date or summary of the most recent chat activity for that group, that would be even more useful information for me.

  • Personally, I think you should be able to read all the group postings if it is a public group that does not require an invite to join.

  • +1 to Nanookie on this and bumping it up - but for a slightly different reason.

There is a basic problem with the groups as they exist.  A group gets formed, interested  people join it, they make a few posts and replies, and then no one posts for a little while.  So then everyone assumes the group is dead, and no one posts new threads because they assume the group is dead, so the group dies.  As a result nearly all the groups have become inactive.  Occasionally I go to the groups page, troll through all my groups, see that nothing new has been added, and next time wait even longer before I vainly try again.

The solution? As Nanookie suggested, on the groups page each group listing should have a line with the listing (like in the forums) saying something like "Latest 1 hr ago by Hawkwell."  Then when you go to the groups page, you immediately see which of your groups have new postings, go there and read.  Then you reply.  Then you're inspired to start a new thread.  I'm convinced it's only the drudgery of trolling through your groups and finding nothing new that has caused them to wither, and this simple change would breathe new life into the whole concept of Glitch groups.

  • Ideally I'd love to see the same red notification counter icon for groups here as in the game. It's already being used next to the "Requests" link on Home. That type of consistent design between in-game and offline is much easier to understand. And maybe even see the list of groups show up in the sidebar underneath General, Bugs, Ideas, and Off-Topic.

  • +1 :)

I've been experimenting with this idea using Greasemonkey (screenshot of the Greasemonkey script I've been working on: i.imgur.com/cnRmP.png), but I think it would be great to have the time of the latest post listed under each group as an "official" feature.

  • +1 for all of Hawkwell's reasons.

@Varaeth: hey, if greasemonkey is what we get, I will take a greasemonkey script gladly.
