What do you like/dislike about your house/neighbourhood?

I have a little house which will do me for now but I am thinking ahead to when the game is reset and I am wondering what sort of house and what neighbourhood would be good to aim for when the time comes to buy again.

Would people be so kind as to tell me what they like, and what they dislike, about the homes and neighbourhoods they have bought in the past or currently own please?

Thank you.

  • My first house was a little treehouse in Tii Quarter in Groddle Forest. While the house itself wasn't great, living in Groddle Forest/Meadow is extremely useful at lower levels, especially if you're focusing mostly on harvesting and cooking skills like me, because of the abundance of fruit and bean trees, egg plants, and pigs. It's also really easy to travel to Ix for spice farming.

I haven't lived in Bortola but a couple of my friends do. Their biggest complaint is the lack of variety in things to harvest and especially the lack of pigs. But I can't speak from personal experience.

My next house was one of the mid-size houses in Kajuu. I liked the house but I didn't like Kajuu because resource-wise it seemed like there was almost nothing but bubble trees. This in itself is not terrible because in my experience bubble farming can be really lucrative; you can easily sell stacks of 250 for about 5K and therefore upgrade to a bigger house in no time. So it's a great stepping stone to a bigger house, but not necessarily the best area in terms of resources for upgrading skills.

Finally, I got a 30K and then a 50K house in Alakol. I actually love those cute little themed houses in Mien Evoke a lot, and a couple of my friends have decided to keep those rather than upgrading to the big houses, but I personally just can't justify that with the pros of having the big house. It's just so much easier to grow all your own crops, with so many garden beds, and a big pen and 4 patches. I also like Alakol much better than Kajuu, because it still has a lot of bubble trees for making money, but more variety in terms of bean trees, egg plants, etc. I haven't done any mining at all, but there seem to be a ton of rocks, too. Really my only complaint about the area is that I wish it was easier to get to Ix for spice farming, but I guess you can overcome that using teleportation which I haven't learned yet.

I should add, though, that any resource deficiency in an area can be mitigated if you make good, strategic decisions about which trees to plant in your patches. I guess that's one thing I wish I'd planned out better in my first couple of houses.

  • Hi Enola,

Right now I live in Marylpole Mount in Groddle Meadow. I really like Marylpole Mount (just because the only houses I've had I've bought here :)), in one of them fancy Nintendo houses, but I think at the reset I'm going to switch. I love the LOOK of my house, but... it doesn't have a lot of functionality, for my needs. Having 5 trees in my backyard is nice, but only if you actually harvest them regularly. I usually forget to or I'll just wander around collecting from elsewhere so it's not needed for me to keep up on it. I also don't garden, milk/nibble/squeeze my animals, or store anything at my house, so I have a lot of extra... space.

It's nice to have somewhere to go to hang out with friends, but... for spending 8,000+ currants on it I really don't use it much. :P (I'll just go crash at their house, lol) That's why I've never even considered an Alakol-esque house... wouldn't use all that space, haha.

I believe I am going to move to a cheaper Shimla Mirch home at the reset (or perhaps even before the reset--why not?). I love the look of those houses, and they have something I actually WOULD harvest daily--barnacles and fireflys :) And I'm always going to that area, so it would just fit best for me.

I think the important thing to think about is both where you want to be and how you want to use the house... do you want a house in a place you're going to all the time and would be most convenient for you, or do you want a far off place that you can teleport to to "get away from it all"? Do you want a cheap house to just have somewhere to go back to, or do you want to be a gardening/harvesting/piggy nibbling extraordinaire with a hueg house?

Groddle Meadow and Alakol houses seem to be the most popular; GM for the location and Alakol for the space/status. Also places near subways are popular too. Really it just depends on where you want to be and how you want to use it! You may find that you're happy with a 1k apartment in a nice area, or a 50k mansion in a far off land!

    Good luck choosing :)

  • Thank you both so much for helping me. I actually don't know where I want to be or how I want to use the place which is why I am conducting this research lol. You have both made a great contribution to lessening my ignorance so thanks again :D

  • I love my house in Alcohol :D  I like the space. I can spend way too much time just bouncing up and down the place and going up and down the stairs.  The animal pen is wonderful for my piggies and their collectors and feeders. The views outside the house are stunning. What else? Friendlyish neighbours ...mostly.
I think after the reset, I'll try for a Marylpole Mount house first in Groddle. I used to have a Raven designed one, pre-my move to Alakol, and it was good value for money.  Not as spacious, and not nearly enough piggy space, but until I save up my first 50k for a large house again after reset, Groddle will do me nicely.
What I won't be doing ever again will be buying one of those tree house things. Used to drive me insane just trying to get up to my own front door! I know they were cheap, but they were irritating too lol

  • I love my Firebog home. There is something so warm and inviting about it. But I crave the open spaces.

With @g33kguy now firmly hooked on Glitch, I'm negotiating a housing split - one of us in a house with the views and one in the bogs.

Given the option I would love a house on a street with my Sisters in Fierceness so that we could have block parties.

  • my first place was an apartment, just to see what it was like/ the benefits of having a place. I left so long ago I barely remember living there. I moved to one of the Asian themed houses in Estevan Meadows and loved it. much bigger, with a backyard and the theme was pretty cool (plus I pretended the S on the backwall stood for my last name :D )

I currently live in alakol in one of the big houses. I love the design and added space, but I guess it feels "too nice to mess up". I feel bad leaving things on the floor. It doesn't feel like a home.

one of my friends got an art themed house which I adore. when we go live I will probably look for one in one of the newer areas, if there is one.

  • @Ebil... I started out in Doon Way.. OMG     Don't even go there...  Climbing up the trees was a nightmare for a newby...  I just picked something cheap to start, not realizing there were  alot of selections and multiple listings...    I love " Alchohol"    too.....there is something about  the open space and vistas. Give me "Land, lots of land, under starry skies above...........Don't fence me in."

  • Another Alakol resident. Love the space, love the neighbors.... still waiting for the Devs to hit the button to add color to our homes and streets heh. Truly, the only thing I don't like about our area is ... it's full of grey tones and not as colorful.

As far as where I'd like my first home after reset, Estevan or Groddle. Very close to the Bureau, the vendors, fruit and bean trees and the subway, all within a 3-street radius there. I still have a transport link to Estevan because it's so easy to gather food supplies. I had the fruit-themed house and am hoping the Devs make that hammock useable (hint, hint).

  • I live in Kajuu--I love the multiple levels, the big garden, and ESPECIALLY the animal pen. I also love (mostly in the case of neighbors) all the places there are to hide treats (behind columns and what not). But I miss being able to plant trees (and thus have pigs) on quarter streets and I wish there were a little more variety to the mansions (like the variety seen in Meadows style  housing).

  • My first house was also a treehouse.  I loved it but soon had a major problem with my animals.  I had 4 pigs, 3 chickens and 3 butterflies.  It was soon just impossible to do any gardening or care of my trees because the animals were in the way.  At that time we could not release chickens.  If you neglected to feed pigs they were supposed to turn into meat so I quit feeding or petting my pigs (they were making me nuts).  They never did become meat.  During the third week of neglecting them I discovered they were eating fruit off my tree!  That's when I decided to move.

I moved to Alakol and bought the smaller house.  This house has an animal pen that even the butterflies stay in.  That is the best feature of the house!  Second best is balcony walking.  After the Reset I will definitely try to get a house with a pen.

  • Oh, I've been quite the house-trotter... It took me a few tests to realize I could at least afford an apartment - so my first one was a Louise Pastures Villa abode.  Decided soon enough (and after I had visited some other places) that while having a teensy garden beat purchasing veg (I hadn't yet discovered the community gardens), I wanted trees as well.  So I fled to a meadow house, which I liked just fine except for the fact that the primary colors and vegetable decor weren't really my bag.

Nanookie lured me to her Leeteg block in the firebogs (whereafter we also lured noqualia and Radasha) - and noqualia and I also had a merry house-changing party wherein I moved up to the 10K home and she moved into my 7K, but shortly thereafter our little block party broke up - Radasha headed for the forest, noqualia and Nanookie for the heights, and I to Alakol.

Alakol, sweet Alakol - where the muted colors speak to my Scandinavian soul and I can perch on the railing between tests, contemplating the view.  I loved my 30K house.  I didn't love being the furthest down the row from the street sign.  So, one mad day, I moved house again (as in life, the more STUFF I acquire, the harder it is to move - this one was a toughie).  I got another 30K right next to the sign.  Bliss.  My piggy patch right next to my garden, all's right with the world.  I wondered what the allure was of the 50K layout - the 30 just seemed so convenient.

...And then I asked my neighbor Yark if I could see his 50K.  Whooee.  Yes, I had visited the model homes (and mightily enjoyed some squatter's notes Ebil had scattered about the big one - I even squatted in the 50K model garden doing the massive onion grow-and-auction quest, using it as a de facto community garden), but even virtually there is something about seeing how someone uses a space that makes a difference.  Yark's use of his space was impressive.  I had to admit to myself that the 50K was starting to make sense now in a way that it didn't before.

...But I couldn't find one available in my Ojan Repine neighborhood.  I had selected Ojan carefully!  I wanted to stay in Ojan!  Would Yark still greet me with a friendly "Hey neighbor!" if I moved away from Ojan?  These are the times that try a Glitchian house-horse's* soul.  Finally, I decided that if I could get a 50K near a sign, I would just do it already.

And there I am.  And I admit I love it (especially since I have taken up blockmaking - I can set up my block- and fuel-makers in the lower yard, with plenty of room to spread out the various materials).  It's my eventual goal post-reset to get another Alakol 50K.  Near the sign, please.  Visitors will find me on my railing, enjoying the view.

    Oh - and g33?  Grr.

*Think clothes-horse but more complicated and possibly even more expensive.  Though some designers would stretch that point...

  • I'm getting the impression it won't be possible to have a place with pigs, butterflies, chickens, an egg tree, fruit tree, spice tree, wood tree etc no matter how much I save up is that right?

And you can only have one house so I can't have fruit trees and vegie plots with herb plots and mortar barnacles no matter how rich I get from the look of it. *Pouts*

  • I don't think so on the egg tree bit. I believe you can only get those in the marsh houses. never lived in one of those. and barnies - I don't think any house has those. not sure about herb gardens. but the rest of it, yes- I have a pig, chickens, butterflies, two spice trees, and a bubble tree. I had a wood tree for a bit in Estevan.

  • I live in Shimla Mirch, only about 3 streets from Groddle Meadow. I love having fireflies in my house, and an egg tree. Plus now the herb garden, which I don't use as much as I thought I might. While I can't grow vegetables, I find I can usually trade herbs for whatever I need, or I just buy some on auction.
I had to move to the meadow for a while, however, because I had one of those quests where I had to grow things in my own back yard. As soon as I finished that quest I moved back to the Mirch - same house, even. The meadow was just too cutesy for me to like being there all the time.
I have enjoyed helping on several street projects, and crystals seemed to always be in high demand, so having my own fireflies and barnacles - with more just around the corner - let me participate more. Or I could sell those items at any time and make plenty of currants for anything I needed.
When I first moved in, I think all the other houses on the street were vacant. Now I have 6 neighbors, and we like to leave little gifts outside the doors for each other. I rarely see the people, but I know they are around! We leave notes, too, sometimes. Nice neighborhood.
Not much room for pigs or butterflies, but I can find those anywhere, so no biggie. Fireflies are much harder to find (and catch!) so I always release extras in my basement so I have plenty!

  • Enola, that's basically right :( You have to pick and choose what you do most/what you really want in a house. However, you can have a place with all animals and all trees except paper and egg in the groddle meadow houses (and I'm sure elsewhere)? That's what I have, I have all the animals and then a spice, gas, fruit, wood trees and a patch (it used to have a bubble tree but there was a glitch), along with crop garden patches, etc.

But, that means no egg trees, flies/barnacles/jellisacs, or herb gardens, at least where I am.

Have to decide what you really want :( That's the decision I had to make. Sure, I don't harvest them much, but I will miss having all those trees in my yard if I move! But, I always harvest more of flies/barnacles for projects, so that's a trade-off I'm willing to do. Maybe move into a new house for the next few tests just to try them all out? :) Or, ask people to let you into their home to check it out?

@Zany Serendipity (or anyone with a firebog home)
I have a question about fireflies, if you don't mind :) Do they stay put/regenerate if you "catch" them all or you release them in your home? I'm not really sure how flies works in homes. That's the major thing I want in my "new shimla home" so I just want to be sure how it works. Thanks :)

  • I loved the hugeness of the house I had in Morbana (Kajuu)  - loved everything about it...with the exception of the pen (and losing a tree patch)  Hate my critters being cooped up!
Definitely loved having so much room for all of my stuff as well as having tons of extra garden plots.
And the elevators (tho they scare me irl) were a total blast to play on :D

So I moved back to the smaller house - which I also love (different location but the same house that I had lived in before moving to Kajuu) where my piggies could roam free.

I would really love it if I could have the big house without the pen (as well as the 5 tree patches instead of only 4) lol
But, if I can't have my dream home (big house without a pen) then I'm totally happy with living where I'm at now :)

  • I've got a tiny little house in Borem Summons in Bortola. It suits me for now, but I'd rather have one of the Groddle Meadow cottages. My problem with them is that their interiors are all kind of tacky. I want a cottage-y cottage, not a cottage with a 50s diner theme or Nintendo wallpaper.

I'm a little worried about what I'll do later on in the game because I -really- don't like the 30-50k houses. They look too modern and out of place.

  • @ Gia Tori You can have egg trees and 2 other trees in a cave home.

My first home was a cave in Tallish Crest. A great location for mining, and now of course it has a subway station. The main room was a bit gloomy (and messy once I'd dropped my stuff on the floor) but once I climbed the ladder the garden was a delight. (The pigs and chickens get in the way a bit but if you're feeling cruel you could place the pigs on the hill at the back, or possibly in the cave with the egg plant?)

After the cave I moved to a flat in Froughtful Fen. Froughtful Fen is the best location I have come across yet. Plenty peat, and barnacles, close to the Forest and with a useful range of vendors in the neighbouring streets. My first flat had a tricky twist to get back in the house from the "garden" so I moved pretty quickly to another flat in the same block with a ladder access to the "garden"

I loved living there, but missed the trees so I moved to Marrakesh to a twee house with a fruity theme and 5 tree patches. (This was during the exodus to Alakol) The problem with 16 garden plots and 5 trees is that you're never done harvesting and planting! I swear I spend a whole test slaving in that garden. So I filled 2 bags with veg and headed back to Shimla Mirch

By this time herb gardens had appeared and my only criteria was that I needed a firefly swarm (I can NOT catch them in the wild) and I wanted a "different" house. I moved to Harbinger Lowrise for a while, but when I got an insane gardening quest I moved to Tamila to a tree-house (on the ground) The treehouse has a really nice garden and a big airy room - now if only I could work out how to get in the basement I'll be happy.

Next test I'll probably head back to Froughtful Fen, see how my butterflies are doing :)

  • I fell in love with this place in Jolkan Jank, Kajuu.  It was the longest walk I'd taken in-game at the time, and I felt like I was going straight up into the mountains. The sky kept getting darker and yellower the whole while.

The house itself is not so much a house as it is a sort of plateau-top cave -- bare, stone walls, one dangling light bulb, rickety old cabinet full of seeds.  There are eerie, desaturated hues everywhere.   I'll scramble up this ladder through a hole in the ceiling into my garden and there will be white, puffy grasses bunched up against the limestone, tough little shrubs squatting around the farmed plots,  savannah trees slouching in the distance.   A low, brooding sky with shreds of black cloud that just hang there.  There are eight houses on my block, and seven are for sale.  It makes me feel like a real hermit!

In some ways, I'll feel a little sad when people start moving in (it'll be a bittersweet sort of sad, though; this is a game in which one should revel at having neighbors).  And I could use more trees from which to harvest - this property will only accommodate one.  Even after the inevitable wipe has come and gone, though, I may find it hard to tear myself away from this place.  I may move back in, same address and everything.

  • I love this thread! I have a house on Rappam Rolls in Kajuu, mostly because one player who really helped me a lot was living there, so I got a house on his (her?) street, looking forward to the neighborhood activities other players would talk about in the forums and in global chat. Unfortunately no one else lives on our street but me and my buddy leave gifts for each other.

I am currently super into mining so could see moving to a place with rocks. I haven't done any remote herdkeeping skills yet so all i'm doing is growing vegetables. I'm sure I will move at some point so reading what others like about their houses is super interesting and I didn't know there were cave houses! More to explore, that's what I love about Glitch.

  • I live in Groddle Forest.

I really like the location- it's close to lots of vendors, trees (egg to my left, spice below, fruit on top&right.)  At first what drew me to Groddle Forest is... living in a forest!

I've been thinking about moving to a more expensive home... but I really like where this is. I really wish we could upgrade our homes. Not that I need more space for animals or anything... I just don't like my "crap storage" and "crap shelf." (That's the actual name.) Or perhaps have items to decorate my house. (I think the assortment of houses in Bortola are super cute.)

  • My first place was in Pasha's Place, one of the cheapie 2k-ish treehouses. I felt like I needed more space so I moved, and conveniently it was a newly opened section so my boyfriend is 2 doors down from me, so much less loading between houses if we are going to check on everything at once.

We are in Estevan Meadows, in the 8,500c houses.

-My cabinet is huge compared to my last place! 32 slots? Cool! Now I can actually keep all this wood I get that I don't know the purpose for yet! (lol getting wood)
-Ix is like, three streets away. It's amazing.
-Produce vendor on my street, Groceries vendor one street over. Making food is super easy.

    Dislikes:
-I think I've made poor decisions as to which trees to plant, I may murder my fruit tree because they are seriously everywhere around there, replace it with maybe a gas plant because I find I often need Just A Few Gasses while making new animals. I probably also don't really need a bean tree....
-I wish it had a Dark Patch for an egg tree, I really do. All the ones that had a dark patch had less overall patches and I didn't want to give up the space :(
-Good mining is a bit far-ish.
-Same for bubble trees, not super far but far enough for me to whine about it a little bit.

I think for when the reset comes, I will probably end up right back here. I like it. I'm not convinced that the mansions even are better enough to convince me. More garden space, sure, and a pig pen, but for 42k it's just not worth the expense to me. Might as well just buy the vegetables at that point, and let the piggies roam free.

  • @Zoei - I have never managed to catch "all" the fireflies in my house, but even if I catch most of them, when I return there's a full swarm again. And just like elsewhere in the world, you have to be able to see a firefly in order to open your jar.
When I have jars with a useless amount of fireflies in, I always release them in my house. Sometimes I end up with a lot of fireflies in there, but I have at least a dozen jars in my inventory, so I just catch a bunch of them, scrape up a mess of barnacles, and make crystals for projects or donating at shrines. Or selling.

  • My first place was a tiny little shack in Groddle Meadow.  The location was pretty central, so that was nice, but I hated the house itself.  I hated the way the outside looked, and I hated the way the inside looked, and I hated that my cupboard was called "Crap cupboard" and that my yard was so tiny and depressing.  You're probably wondering why I bought it, if I hated it so much, and the reason I bought it was because it was the cheapest house going at the time... 2.5 or 3k, I think.  I just bought it because I was running out of storage, and also, it seemed the thing to do when I was still getting started with Glitch.  All of the upper level players I talked to or peeked at their info had houses, so I thought I should get one too.

Then I saved up my pennies and bought my 50k Alakol house.  LOVE IT!  I love the balconies, and the view, and the cupboard, the trophy case, the piggy pen, the tree plots, EVERYTHING, I love it.

I will say, I wish I could get a mansion that was a bit less "modern" looking.  All of the sleek, stainless-steel and white is not really my personal style, I'd prefer to see something with hardwood floors and warm color decorations.  Also, I'd like to be able to grow herbs.  Honestly, I don't really need herbs, just like I don't really need the veggies that I grow, I just think it makes the house look prettier to have a garden at full bloom--strawberries, tomatoes, cabbages and corn make it look especially nice, but the herb flowers are MUCH prettier, and I'd rather grow those, because they're really just decoration, anyway.

One thing I thought would be cool would be to have a "movable plot" like a flower pot or something, that you could buy at the gardening vendor.  You could plant herbs in it and drop them around your house for a totally fresh, pretty look!  But aside from aesthetics (I think the mansions look a bit cold and standoffish--there are so many kinds of other priced houses, why is there only one model of the expensive houses?) ,  I really love my mansion.  The view is wonderful, the space is large enough that I can group all of the stuff that I drop and even make it look sort of purposeful and natural--like Jasbo, I have my blockmaker and fuelmaker set up in the lower yard, along with all the requisite materials, and it actually does look pretty natural there.  If they don't make something better between now and the time (after the reset) when I'll be able to buy an expensive home again, I'll be back for another 50k house.

    That is a great idea!

I am an Alakol now and love the pen and garden and all of the room.  I loved my 1st log cabin in Groddle and miss it for all of the reasons stated above.  But having the room in the larger home lets me spend quiet time planting and harvesting and herding, which I also love.

  • I started out in a cave house, then moved to a tree house in Groddle Forest. I would have stayed there if there had been a little bit more space. The central location is great! I just moved into a three-level house in Shimla Mirch and I just love it - the three levels, the egg tree, the overall aesthetic. I chose it because I want to focus on growing herbs, and it has a 12-plot herb garden! I haven't done a whole lot of crystal-making, but I will for shrine donations/reselling.

  • I've been in Groddle Heights (nice neighbors) and Groddle Meadow (great for farming, convenient). Now I'm in a firebog house with fireflies, barnacles, herbs and an eggplant. That combination is great. It's dark and strange :).  It's easy to make crystals and fuels cells (I'm near many jellasic growths). I'd gotten tired of gardening so much by myself in my back yard in Groddle Meadow. I'm hoping there will be home decoration/improvement skills after the launch. I'll work myself up to a large, rough cave of a house in Kujuu and trick it out with bedouin carpets and chandeliers.

  • I have a 50k in Alakol.  I love all that it has to offer as far as functionality, and that's why I'm keeping it.   28 crops, 4 trees and 27 pigs keeps me in the positive cash flow and/or able to contribute to projects pretty well without ever leaving my house for supplies.

However, I don't really love the landscape of Alakol.  The house itself is a clean modern design, which I might be into in "real" life, but it doesn't suit my glitch.   Also, the house is so damn big I actually spend a bunch of time just going up and down stairs/etc to get to everything.

I'm too much of a min-max player though to give up the benefits of a 50k for something "cute" though.

  • I just bought one of the houses in the new area of Groddle Meadow called Estevan Meadows Quarter. The houses are along the lines of the ones mentioned above in Marypole, and the one I got has 16 crops, 5 patches, and 32 storage for 8K. I'm happy with it as a newer player, but miss the eggplant I had in Groddle Heights. Being centrally located is nice, though.

Thanks for all the good info!

  • Fireflies...can you have one swarm per level in a boghouse or do they all eventually regroup into one swarm?

Also, in the Kajuu 50k homes, you can release piggies on the 3rd floor to walk about freely as of two tests ago. They will not move down to the lower level. Whoever said they didn't like their piggies corralled should put their hogs up there like I did. Plus don't forget to balance a pig on your balcony railing so he can walk back & forth as well.

  • Linn, you actually use the stairs to go down?  I just jump off the balcony!  :D

  • Seriously - jumping the balcony(ies) is one of the great joys of the Alakol home!

  • before i could teleport, I liked to buy a house close to whatever was supporting my game at the time. i've lived in groddle meadow when i needed pigs &fruit for food (2k), shimla mir when i was gathering spice and making alchemicals (5k), jethimadh for projects and the tower (10k). then it was mining in chakra pool(10k), alakol (50k) and now kajuu.. until alakol, i didn't really concern myself with how much i liked the house itself, i just liked decorating with firefly jars, girlie drinks and insignificant shiny things. when alakol made the big houses, i had just started to hit stride with my skills and levels. I enjoy all the floor space and footage of the property but don't want to spend so much time gardening next test.  i  might not change areas but am considering downsizing to 30k house as i have cooked all i want to cook, grown all i want to grow and my goal might be to just get by, grind the least possible and run around having fun.

  • my house was cheap and came with pigs and trees and a garden.  I liked that there were rocks near by and it was on a subway street and that it had a vendor I could buy buns from to make food.  I do not know my neighbors.  maybe I should fix that by leaving notes that rezone their properties to be free range chicken farms and cold taco stands (hehe)
