  • well yes, it *is* pretty amazing, but i am confused as to why you reposted Jade's picture onto your own flickr account instead of just linking to the original.  also, i am unsure about how copyright works on screencaps, but you might notice that the original shot is marked all rights reserved... as is yours...  just sayin'...

  • I have added my comments to "your" flickr image bluesrock (reproduced below):

"This photo was taken yesterday" - not by you it wasn't Bluerock. In fact you have had absolutely no involvement in this artwork or photo and have never actually even seen the work. To imply otherwise and to steal images is seriously uncool imo (understatement). For the record, the majority of the artwork was done by Faereluth, Maia Gaia Mira, Herp Derp and Soupie ... with much assistance and cheering on by all the other Mooners. The photographer was Jade and a link to the original is herewww.flickr.com/photos/jade-oh-my/6844544642/

  • @Katlazam, I there have been others, who have done the same, I think... but, the copyright thing i flickr is an option by default.

You can choose the cc license of your images on Flickr on a per image basis. Just because the default is ARR doesn't make leaving it as that as right

Also it is against Flickr's Terms of Service to post images that you did not make yourself. This is over and above any copyright issues. Flickr doesn't care if it doesn't infringe someone's copyright, it is against their TOS

Doing so puts your entire Flick account at risk of summary deletion

  • The copied picture also doesn't have the original full size resolution because of lack of Flickr pro account.

  • Man, I have... issues in grammar/spelling. Apologies.

No it's not right, but I find that with EVERY Image on flickr (related to glitch), when you consider the image to the core, it doesn't consist of your work.

Alternatively, I don't think that putting a "CC" license is legit, since it still doesn't compose of your artwork.

I'm just trying to say he's not intentionally trying to call it his own work, (and I don't know if he edited the topic to call it his work, or the picture info), but isn't directly calling it is.

And he wouldn't be the only one who uses flickr and puts Glitch Images under Copy-Right, so nothing new here.

Posting it on his own account, it's true that he could have just favorited it, and shared the original link. Oh well, it's the internet. I know what he did was wrong, but this is nothing to be surprised of.

Most Importantly, he's not taking away something that contributes to another's well being through monetary medium and he's not monetizing or selling copies of the image (even to see it), AFAIK. He's just getting view on that photo or you could say, "internetz".

    Thanks.

P.S. Reporting him would kinda overboard. I'd just let it go, unless I was the "content creator(s)", at most, I'd ask them and see what they think.  Soupie commented above, but I'm not sure if she didn't notice, but she doesn't seem to mind.

  • Rook-no I didn't initially notice.  I don't personally mind but of course it's not up to me :)

I don't normally jump into these things because, in theory, every pic I snap in glitch and put online is someone else's artwork--every last pixel of it. Yet they give us the snapshotting skill to do just that. It's a grey area, for sure.

  • Thanks Soupie for the comment and sum up.

EDIT: I was gonna add this before kevbob locked the thread, but he pretty much covered it.

One notification, maybe an in game mail giving him a heads up (even though he should know to give credit, I don't disagree with that), should be enough. So I guess we'll have to wait and see for the time being. I don't see anyone in the thread giving Bluesrock a lot of praise, or any Bugatti's/onion rings.

What I'm saying... is that cool/uncool, it's not gonna save anyone from a burning building by stressing any significance on the matter.

    TL:DR
-Uncool that he didn't give credit
-But he didn't call it his, or anyone's for that matter. But I guess one could assume that it was his work unless they went to his profile page.
-If Imgur had a copyright setting I'm sure he wouldn't use it, flickr doesn't really leave you a choice - any setting that he'd put would be wrong.
-It's really not that big of deal, with the things that I see so far, just nudge him, at most. Who know's? Maybe he's not even keeping track of this post, and that he's not in for the attention?
-I understand your concerns, and that you guys aren't really bothered by the issue :D

  • i think the copyright thingy was a bit of a derail - i was pointing to it to illustrate the irony that he ripped off somebody else's screenshot.  basically what Sasca said - by reposting the picture, he implied involvement and being deserving of credit.  and i disagree that it requires monetary harm to be Not Cool.  the fact that his screenshot at this point has no attribution, but does have more views than the original seems kinda wrong to me, end of story.

bluesrock's story seems iffy at best, but if he really wants to make good here, he would remove his image on flickr and edit his original post to point to the original screenshot.

  • Even if you do take it from someone else, no matter what, you should give him/her for the credit he/she did. People use other people's photos in a lot of stuff, but they still give credit for whoever did it.

  • Honestly, I don't care about the copyright thing, although I know other people do. With or without it, this still falls under the not cool category. You're taking credit for someone else's picture. How would you not know whose it was? Your "friend" (if he exists) must've gotten that exact same picture from somewhere.

  • Folks! Rather than go forward with more pile on, it's possible (even probable) the OP hasn't even been back to see following posts/reactions. The other link was posted in this topic as well as who was there, and also a nice thread from the other day. Some people post stuff just because it is cool to see. I dont really see a specific claim of "I did this" so for the sake of this topic, let's just assume there was no bad intent and leave it at that.  I'd like to avoid pitchforks and torches at this point, so let's just leave it there.

    Thanks!
