Produce Vendor and Grocery Vendor be Integrated?

I use both of these vendors when I am cooking. I have bags in my inventory labeled, Pantry,Veggies, Sauces, Meat-Cheese etc. and so forth, but I run out of items while cooking and find it easier to just cook where the Grocery Vendor is, thus when I run out of a cooking item, I just purchase it from the Vendor, then when I run out of a Produce item, I need to run a few blocks to the Produce Vender to complete a food recipe. If I cook at home, it means running several blocks around the neighborhood and it takes forever because I will not pass up a harvest as I walk through, so it becomes time consuming.  I love the cooking part of Glitch but dislike the amount of time it takes.  So please couldn't the two vendors be integrated or put the two vendors on the same spot?  Or a Glitch area called "Vendor Delight" where you find all the vendors in the same spot?  Just idea's.

  • I never use the Produce vendor, since my garden supplies all the produce I need.  You might try gardening to get the items you use.

  • Eventually, the plan is to remove from vendors all items that can be made by players, so produce vendors will most likely disappear entirely.

  • I actually enjoy having to plan things out ahead of time. I think making things too easy to go out and buy would take some of the fun out of it. So I decide what I'm going to make, then get a list of the things I need to go buy. I also usually buy the ingredients for the things I make most frequently in bulk, so I don't have to go out every time I want to cook.

Look for spots where there's a produce vendor and a grocery vendor on streets that are next to each other. I know there's at least two spots like that. I actually chose the location of my house because the street it's on is connected to streets with both groceries and produce. Much more convenient!

  • Thank you. I do have a 28 garden plot in my home, but it does not produce all my gardening needs as I like cooking and I enjoy cooking in bulk so I do not have to cook to produce my energy needs on a daily basis, also it takes forever for a crop to grow. Also I enjoy giving to friends and new players high energy foods. Perhaps if I changed that part of myself, being a "cheerful giver" ,( I like feeding piggies veggies too) I would not have need for so much produce. Certainly it will be very nice when developers make changes and allow homeowners to produce all types of grocery needs, such as honey, parsnips and herbs and not limiting  areas in order to produce certain foods that one needs. I am very much a planner, as stated I do have "pantry bags" for various sauces, honey etc , "milk, cheese, eggs, meat bag" "vegetable, fruit bags"and "dry items bag" such as flour, bubbles etc.. I purchase needed items in bulk, but I am not a hoarder and do not like to keep food stuffs in my 32 storage unit. I like feeling light and free to move to another house or go camping if I chose in one trip.
LOL except for the piggies, chickens and butterflies.
I live in Alakol between the two vendors which helps me in the mean time, I just thought it might be a good idea since this is something other players and I discuss as we cheerfully cook in front of the produce or grocery vendors!
    I love the suggestions!

  • You do know that you can grow parsnips in your garden plots, right?

  • @Windborn; Yes my friend, I noted that right after I posted, I can grow parsnips, I guess some herbs I cannot. But the problem I see is that it is not cost effective to grow a garden anyway; for example
    I have 28 plots: the cost for planting is the following;
The cost for seeds for 28 plots of cabbage is =$725  currents = 28 cabbages
seeds for 28 plots of corn        is =$700  currents = 28 corn
seeds for 28 plots of potatoes  is =$1,120 currents = 28 potatoes
Plus the time involved and get guano to get them to grow faster

    Now fresh produce cost:
                         Cost for 28 fresh cabbage is = $196   currents for 100 cabbage    = $700
                                       28  fresh  corn          = $168   currents for  100 corn         = $600
                                       28 fresh  potatoes     = $196    currents for  100 potatoes =$700

So I need the produce vendor.
Truly I appreciate all input, thank you.

  • It depends on your gardening skill of course, but I know that I don't have a very high one, and I get usually 6-8 veggies per harvest. So, with one packet of carrot seeds I get 7 carrots. How much do you garden? Do you notice how much you're gathering per time? You probably get more than one veggie per packet of seeds, which is how it adds out to be worth it to garden instead of buying from vendors :) Though, granted, it takes a lot more time to have your crops grow, but it does save money? For me it has, anyway. And there's always free guano in the Deeps ;) I just picked up gardening and I've saved a LOT of money by growing crops instead of continually buying them at vendors.

Anyway, as to your original topic: I guess it sort of makes sense that the two are separate, but I still wish they could be together too, hehe. Maybe the devs just want us to work a little harder, explore a little longer ;)

  • I only bought one seed package for each kind of garden crop.  After that, the piggies give me all the seeds I need, for free.  It's one of the best things about the gardening skills:  crops are free, and you get excellent 'drops' that add to the value of the garden.  I get music blocks, food, drinks, and other items that can be sold for currants.

I'm making all kinds of cash from my initial investment for 14 packages of seeds.

  • I agree! I must need more training! hello, dah! LOL  I am going to give it a try. I do get more on the tomatoes which is what I mostly grow, whether cost effective, I better check it out!
I tried the piggy poop thing but I don't think I am a good farmer ha! I have eight piggies in a pen with chickens, good luck to me for that <smile>!  I don't let them run free; ugh!--as she tip toes out of the pen!
    Thank you my friends!
