I need PC help

Hey,

I am always always crashing out of the game. It really puts me in a pissy mood. TS has checked it form their side and say it's not them it's me. I have a desktop Windows Vista and Chrome with the Flash debugger. It gets really really bad at peak times when I will crash out after every action. I have gone to the Adobe Flash site and Chrome and uninstalled both and reinstalled both. Generally, it is a Flash Error message that comes up saying Error 2044 and 2036. I looked this up and I get stuff for programmers to do -- not a mere mortal like me. So I am hoping fellow Glitches that a kind uber-geek Glitch can help me through this. I promise cocktails.

Thanks a sad Xyrem

  • have you tried using another browser like firefox or explorer?
might be a worth a try:)

curious as to why your using the debugger version of flash and not the normal one, any particular reason?

  • Sometimes it's just a matter of hardware. If all the re-installing didn't help, your computer may just not have enough capacity to process the game. It's also difficult to assess the situation in detail without more detail about your computer.

Can you paste the stats from your System Information? Go to the Start menu, and in the search bar, type in System Information and click on that.

  • i assume that you have 32 bit windows vista?

try uninstalling flash player debugger, and installing the normal version - http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

it might also be a lack of RAM issue
Posted 14 months ago by argorn5757 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have to agree that it might be a memory issue. Are you running multiple programs, using tons of bandwidth, or keeping many pages open? The best way to Glitch is to close all other tabs or browsers, any torrent programs or other programs that require constant streaming from somewhere else via the internet, and closing programs you just don't need to be using, especially those heavy in Flash.

  • And before anyone else can make this condescending and unhelpful comment in a non-ironic way:

Dude, you should totally get a Mac. It just works.

  • Windows works just fine, there's no reason someone needs to get a new computer for this :P

  • More info about the machine would be helpful.

Is it only Glitch that crashes the browser? other flash games work fine?

  • 1: Uninstall anything Adobe
    2: Uninstall Chrome
3: Download/Install/Run Malware Bytes (take care of any problems found)
4: Download/Install/Run CCleaner (Clear everything, Uninstall things you dont need, Clean registry)
    5: Download/Install/Run Auslogic Disk Defrag
    6: Re-install chrome
    7: Re-install flash

    8: Pray

All software I've suggested is free.  Don't pay for anything!

  • I am using the exact same system and have to say its ok for me .......i did allow Flash to use more space recently but that's about it,sorry I'm no techy either, good luck

  • A few problems I've had with Flash before:
Plugins. Some of them may cause problems.
Hardware acceleration. YouTube would be artifact'd to the point it was unusable until I disabled it.
Flash for Chrome not updating. Not sure why, but my version of Flash was outdated by several months, despite how Chrome is supposed to auto-update. (I think some of my protections prevented it.)
Other programs. Generally for lag or memory errors, but who knows.

Not sure if any of them are specifically relevant, but it might help.

  • I get low memory errors after running my machine for a long hours fo Glitching. Clean up the hard disk using the "Properties" button in Windows Explorer. Then clean your cache in the browser. It helps, at least for a while. Then periodic reboots.

That said, I'm still afraid to go back to Ajaya Bliss because of the way it crashed me. But it was really, really busy.

  • uninstall all adobe products
    uninstall chrome
    install CCleaner
    run it

    reinstall chrome

there is no need to install flash, it comes built into chrome

  • Any actionscripters know why those specific errors would come out?  I would have thought it was an issue on the Glitch side except for the fact that they said it's not them.  One thing I thought of with error 2044 is that Vista has particular quirks to do with security/permissions right?  Do you, uh, have a spare operating system you could use to try out chrome on other than Vista? (using the same computer?)  :P I dunno, like a USB linux or something..?  Maybe that's not really something in the realms of possibility here.

Also, check your version of flash, is it the same as the ones Glitch says its client is compatible with, Xyrem?

@Cerulean and @argorn5757 - why do you think it might be a memory issue?  (Which error - 2044 or 2036?)

  •  a little more detail would help, such as vista rev and memory installed, from your description about being in the bliss, it sounds like u may be overloading the memory. that be said, try running task manager and check out the load while playing, u could also try increasing your page/swap file, it may help with memory allocation

also, i have quad core, win7 pro 32bit, and maxed out ram, and the bliss can be laggy @ times.

best of luck, report back on your details

  • thanks @argorn5757!  Bit old of a thread but it makes sense.  I only dabbled in actionscript myself.

BTW, the early posts said memory issue but the last few posts in that thread seemed to talk about a security/permissions issue.  You don't think that could be the problem?
Posted 14 months ago by Lara Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have done most of what you all are talking about: I run nothing else; I have no other windows open; I am not in Ajaya I am planting a cabbage in my yard, or clicking to speak in chat. I have run CCleaner and fixed registry errors. I just tried what Argorn said about uninstalling Adobe and now cannot get into the game at all: I click enter world and I get a white page with nothing.

Dell XPS-430 core 2 Quad, Q8300, @2.50GHz, 2.49Ghz and 64 bit and really not that much porn on my hard drive....

  • not sure if you mentioned this before, but how much RAM do you have? not that i have any experience with 64bit or windows
Posted 14 months ago by Lara Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @ lara from what i read it seems like this would be an error on the game's side, but that's not the case.

@xyrem i could remote login to your computer if you have LogMeIn installed, because the problems your having are really strange =P

EDIT: also this is argorn5757, just logged in from the wrong account X_X

  • OK still cannot get in using Chrome or IE9. I think I am gonna go all retro and go read a book....
Posted 14 months ago by Xyrem Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @argorn5757 ah :P.  and, yeah, I would have thought so too.  I just wonder if it's not something specific to Vista.  Again, I'm not familiar with that OS especially not 64bit but I've heard it takes a lot of memory.  Would probably depend how he's running his Vista too (effects etc)

@Xyrem you didn't mention how much RAM you have?  (Unless you did?)
Posted 14 months ago by Lara Subscriber! | Permalink
  • 6.00 GB RAM
Posted 14 months ago by Xyrem Subscriber! | Permalink
  • 6 is more then enough. this is quite bizarre...
Posted 14 months ago by argorn5757 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • wahhhhhh
Posted 14 months ago by Xyrem Subscriber! | Permalink
  • yeah seems like plenty.

You mentioned you only had 1 program open.  Do you usually only open 1 program at a time because of the computer slowing down?  Also, what about other flash games, do they crash in the same way?
Posted 14 months ago by Lara Subscriber! | Permalink
  • xyrem install flash, then firefox. then try it

  • I live in SL, eat Dragon Age, am ridiculous about all Diablos and Sims...So no, I have no problems except in here....

  • @Xyrem: haha, ok, that helps.  So it sounds like it might not be a memory issue.  You could check objectively if you had a look at your actual RAM usage before and after opening Glitch.  IIRC there's a basic app for looking at your RAM/CPU usage in the .. i dunno, ctrl+shift+esc menu?  Like Task Manager or something like that?  Sorry, I have been away from Windows too long.

If you can open that app, click the tab that has the graphs on it.  Wait for a bit for the graph to stabilise, then open chrome.  Wait for it to stabilise, then open the game client (glitch.com/game).  Wait for something to happen, until it either crashes or stabilises.  I'm assuming that if it is a memory issue, the line will eventually max out the graph and eventually hang the computer or something similar (dunno if Windows rescues you if a program eats up all your RAM?).  Then again, I don't know exactly what the RAM issue might be - is it running out of RAM, is it doing something else?  If memory usage increases but seems stable and isn't affecting everything else, I'm guessing it might not be an issue with RAM.

There's probably a much better way to do this than what I described, as I am certainly no expert.  Someone can please correct me :)

  • Simple but not sure it was mentioned, have you cleared your cache in Chrome? Also, you could try uninstalling addons in Chrome that you might have recently installed.
Posted 14 months ago by snarkle Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Cleared cache, now have installed and uninstalled Chrome and Flash three times today.
Posted 14 months ago by Xyrem Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Any luck with checking RAM?

I'm thinking 'an issue with RAM' is a bit amorphous anyway and the security/permissions thing is more likely, personally.  I assume you've disabled UAC on Vista as I hear most sane people do?

Also, if you planted cabbages in your garden, sounds like you were able to play long enough to get cabbage seeds and enough money to buy a house.  Was that on a different computer (and this one has always crashed) or did the crashing only recently start?

  • Actually I had a similar problem with Flash not too long ago. Check your Flash privacy settings. You MUST allow 3rd party sites have storage rights.

  • Xyrem- did you say this machine works fine other than this issue? Never throws random blue screens?

This all sounds too weird. I would run 'System file checker' just to rule out something deeper.

    Like this:

Start>type 'cmd' in the search box. Right click on the cmd.exe select 'Run as Admin'
Then in the black box type 'sfc.exe /scannow'

It will verify all system files and might take 10-15 min.

  • No, no random bluescreensofdeath, but I have been thinking about throwing the whole thing out of a window...

  • try right click on where the glitch game should be, selecting settings, and making sure that local storage is enabled.
Posted 14 months ago by argorn5757 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hey I don't mean to offend with this suggestion, but it never hurts to go back to basics... with all the stuff you've done with your computer recently to try to fix this... have you rebooted it recently? Just making sure... solves a lot more problems than some people realize.

  • I cannot even get into the game ATM. Just a white screen. But this is the normal Flash Error I get: Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2036: Load Never Completed.

  • i posted a question on stackoverflow. you can watch it if you want to see if it gets any answers.

  • I don't know if this will help or not but I have not seen it suggested.
Xyrem: go into your Chrome toolbar (the little wrench thingy in the righthand top corner)
    Go to OPTIONS section.
Go to UNDER THE HOOD section.
Go to CONTENT SETTINGS (on top in Privacy section)
Go to PLUG IN section and to DISABLE INDIVIDUAL PLUG INS
Make sure you only have 1 version of FLASH running/enabled. Chrome has its own version that comes with it plus Adobe has a version. If you say you've reinstalled BOTH Chrome and Flash then maybe there is a conflict there.

Also, I know you say you've cleaned everything in cache and debugged but its good to do it again (Clean Chrome cache/Run Disk cleanup/Run Defragger) if you make any other changes and then always reboot after.

  • @Xyrem - Let me make sure my profile has my contact info. And I'll look up current Megabus prices...

Edit: Eep! Prices are up! $43 to St. Louis from KC, and $34 back. :(  It was $25.00 from St. Louis to Kansas City last December. 5 hours each way.

  • If you're running any Greasemonkey scripts, they might be causing lag, so uninstalling them could help.

Switch to Firefox; it seems to cause fewer Glitch issues than Chrome does right now.

Flash needs storage permissions, or the game won't load at all.  Check through every Flash setting to be sure that you're not blocking anything important.
