do piggies eat the food I leave on the ground in my yard?

Hi!  I've asked this before, but I think I need to check again.

I just realized that if you leave food/decorations at in front of a neighbor's house, the street pigs will eat them.  My question is, if I leave food on the ground in my backyard, will my pig eat them?

  • yes they will - so be careful what you leave lying around.

  • Some further info:   Pigs will not eat the crops in your garden plots.  They will not eat food in bags.  They will eat planks harvested from wood trees if you leave those lying around.  If you keep a pig someplace where there are no trees, you cannot count on keeping it alive by leaving food on the ground, because sometimes it won't touch that food and will starve.

  • Piggies eat what you drop, when you drop it, but afterwards will not touch the rest. I would know, my livestock starved to death when I left them for a couple of (rl) days with food scattered on the floor. When I came back, the food was there, with piggy remnants sprinkled all over it. Grisly.

  • @Jammie - Pigs can be capricious.  If there are trees around to keep them alive, they may also continue to munch on things you leave lying around.  I had a number of wood planks go missing before I caught on to this.  It seems that pigs lose the ability to find and eat things left on the ground only where there are no trees or feeders around to keep them healthy.

  • Trees aren't sufficient to totally sustain a pack, though I'm sure they help.  I had two trees, lots of food on the ground, and 3 piggies lived and 2 died.

  • It's good that I asked again.  The first time I asked I was told they would not.  I doubt he eaten much of must goodies, because I stuff him to the gills in order to get seeds, several times a day.  But I'll go get some bags just to be safe.  Thanks!

  • Can someone explain to me why, when I left 46 cherries on the ground, I came back several days later to 46 cherries on the ground and a dead pig? (I had only one pig.)

  • Those pigs who die even though there is food all over the ground are too stupid and must be promptly removed from the gene pool.

  • @Glitchen - Interesting theory.Too bad there isn't a gene pool... ;-)
