  • I think it's unfair that names have been removed. I would love to know who to avoid in auction. I am not a child.

  • Why are you hiding the actions these players are taking by choice?

You should either fix the auction house so items cannot be sold with partial charges, or expose the names of the community that members may wish to watch out for/not do business with.

  • I wish someone had told me sooner to watch out for this, I spent a few thousand currants the other night not realising the powders had 1 charge left.  :(

  • You may want to read more carefully before you buy on auction.  The auction listing quite clearly shows how many uses are left in a powder and shows you the wear bar on tools.

There's no way anyone can scam you, since the auctions show you all the information you need to make an informed decision.  If you want to buy a partial amount, you can save money, since the auction listing lets you calculate the cost per use of the remaining uses.

  • @Baba (again) and Jar, please post your thoughts and concerns on:

@Baba, it's probably best to not name specific sellers.  I've screen captures of the auctions of such sellers, but even if I post them in public, I would screen all the names.  Complicated to explain why it should be so, but we should still try to respect the privacy even of people we do not like at all.

  • Limited-use items in auctions show how many uses are left on them.
I think it is appropriate to have to be in a 'buyer beware' and/or 'conscientious consumer' mode when buying, just like in real life.
    Makes you pay attention, yes?

  • Extremely Hollowed Shrine Powder (1/5)
    Extremely Hollowed Shrine Powder (5/5)
    - Limited-use items *clearly* indicated the uses left (powders, tools, etc).
    - exceptionally low prices are exceptionally low for a reason...
    - sometimes you do not need (or want to pay for ) the whole thing, thus a partially used one.

"Calling out" other players are not allowed. Need to report someone/something? Filing a report would help (it did for me!):

  • DANG. I got caught by this just now! Really: please put a confirmation check on auctions for items that are not fully charged... this scam is too easy to pull off and the mistake is too easy for the purchaser to make.

  • Maruchan, are you saying you got caught out by this and had your money refunded?  Cus I'm sure the TS team are great for filing reports, but this sort of thing is not illegal and doesn't make sense to report.  It is something that leaves a distinctly sour aftertaste, and there's no accountability.

I'm now personally familiar with the names I need to watch out for so if I'm just looking out for #1 I'm fine, but I wish I could help others avoid this too.

  • @Lara:  a few weeks ago when I first started, tools in auctions did not indicate the usage (or whether it's broken), unlike what we have today. So, you can imagine the disappointment upon discovering the 2 fancy picks bought from auctions were totally broken - tinkering would be too demanding at that point, and I was trying to mine more often to save up for a house.
Anyway, I reported this incident, and the TS team member was very helpful and patient in explaining the situation - even making a rare exception in refunding the amount to me.

I am very grateful for the team's support - especially seeing how TS had greatly improved the auctions systems, taking players' feedback into consideration.

And yes, it leaves a sour aftertaste...but hey, things have come a long way, and now the auctions are IMO awesome since we have all the info we need to know before making a purchase! =DD

  • It's great to hear they were able to help you out.  I've personally a great deal of faith in TS's support line.  As a developer myself I'm very impressed with their patience and willingness to help when there's obviously way more to do than just answer helpdesk the entire time, so I can certainly appreciate the effort they put in.

However, if anyone makes a report for the powder thing, it's going to be for usability, not for an actual lack of functionality (as for the tools, in your case).  Usability is a weaker case to argue, because a dev can always just think 'oh end user can live with it so we can put it off' - not any slur on tiny speck's part, just something I would do practically as a dev myself if I had 5 million other things to do.

In addition, I think we both agree that getting a refund is not something we're entitled to.  You mentioned yourself that it was a rare and exceptional thing.  I don't believe we can say that just because you got a refund, those who've accidentally bought 1/5 powder at 5/5 prices should really just stop complaining because they have every reason to just feel happy and satisfied with their lot too...

...whether or not they should be feeling so disgruntled over imaginary currency is a different issue entirely, of course :).

  • While its unfortunate to purchase something that has little uses left...I feel it's your responsibility to decide what to buy and to deal with consequences of your purchase *shrug*
