was it a mistake....

...for me to redeem my free month already? I redeemed it a few days ago while the game was still open. Will I be reimbursed for the time I wasn't able to spend playing? I mean, I understand Tiny Speck did this as a favor to all beta testers, but I think I misunderstood:( haha no big deal if so, Ill end up buying a sub anyways:) keep up the great work Tiny Speck!!

  • Muncey Mango no you did not make a mistake.

The game will always be opening and closing during Beta, and i don't think the free offer will work post-beta, so your free month is the same as everybody else's free month - sporadic.

at least you activated it before the beta is finished!

  • Oh I see! okay, cool. I was kind of thinking that was the case. thanks for clearing that up for me:)

  • Muncey, if you do plan to get a subscription, do it now if you can.  You start getting all the benefits right away, but the one year timer doesn't start until beta ends.

  • And to add what LL noted, the current prices reflect a 50% beta player discount which will go away when we go live.

  • Hey, $15 per month is cheaper than Netflix now!

  • I dunno what your Netflix is costing you, Larky, but I only pay 7.99/mo for mine, and that's still a buck cheaper than a copper subscription. This game is more expensive that bloody WoW. It really seems like a lot for a couple outfits and the ability to vote.

  • Okay okay, there are multiple Netflix plans.  But the 1 DVD at a time plus streaming, which has been $9.99 for ages, is going up to $15.98!  I think it's fair for them to raise prices (or put a cap on streaming), but a 60% increase is pretty steep.  Probably going to cancel, I'm so annoyed ,but I have a month or two to think about it.  (At least we got some notice, eh?)

  • Just curious, do you all watch more than 16 movies a month? Is Netflix really cheaper than going to say Redbox for a $1 a movie whenever you get the notion to watch one?

  • I might watch 10, which lines up with what I've been paying.  How is the selection with Redbox?  One of the things I really like about Netflix is being able to get relatively obscure things.  That, and not having to worry about due dates.

If I cancel, I'll probably support the movie store a couple blocks away, and their movies are maybe $2-3 each.

  • The current prices seem okay, but I think the post-Beta prices are a bit steep.

As for comparing with Netflix, I watch a lot of stuff that I probably couldn't get at Redbox, like TV series or other stuff. Part of the value is that it has things that I can't get elsewhere easily. But I don't have cable or any kind of similar pay TV service. I have Netflix, a couple of iTunes subscriptions to series I really love, and Hulu.

I don't really see myself spending as much time on Glitch as I do using Netflix.

if you want to watch only new releases, and live within walking distance of a box, redbox sounds amazing.

unfortunately we rarely watch new releases on video, and don't live within walking distance of a box.

plus redbox wouldn't enable my wife to put episodes of Top Gear onto the television at will, and i don't think she would be able to deal with the effects of withdrawl.

  • I'm not that much of a movie watcher, get bored and wander off to do anything else but watch tv.  So what I think is how some movies have ended have absolutely nothing to do with it as it usually is the end of a different movie.  I figure when I get so old and can't move then I'll have to see the movie all the way to The End.

  • Lively discussion on how we spend our dollars?  For the record, I also spend more than $15 on tacos every month.  Not cold ones, though.

  • "The current prices seem okay, but I think the post-Beta prices are a bit steep."

hadn't thought of that. even if you buy the beta subscriptions before launch, you will have to re-up your subscription in a year's time, at which point the prices will be ..

Tin - 60 dollars a year [comparable to 12 months of Rhapsody or Spotify ad free music]
Copper - 100 dollars a year [comparable to 12 months of Netflix streaming only subscription]
Molybdeum - 180 dollars a year [comparable to 12 months of World of Warcraft subscription]

the good news is that people who buy Copper or Moly-B right now will be able to save up credits and teleportation tokens and purchased subscriber only clothing over the course of the year, and then drop the subscription entirely for year two and retain all their accumulated discount goodies.

dropping down to Tin would also let you keep the free but subscriber only stuff you've accumulated.

you'd definitely want to get in on the beta special though, to build up your piggy bank full of credits and tokens.

p.s. Larky Lion, think of how many extra tacos you could buy if you didn't pay for glitch ; ]

  • @stri Yeah, but if I ate more tacos, I'd have to go to the gym more often, and then I'd have less time for my (not as awesome looking) Glitch!
Posted 17 months ago by larky lion Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @LL and who knows, you might have to pay increased gym membership fees that would throw off your taco budget entirely.

ok ok, i'll admit i was wrong about the tacos.
Posted 17 months ago by striatic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @stri Yep, I think it's clear that Glitch is the safer bet here.  Not like my tacos are gonna let me teleport anywhere.
