Please bring back the 20th floor of Hakusan Heaps Tower!

Yes, we know, Hakusan Heaps was never meant to have a 20th floor. Yes, I suppose that made it a "bug". But, dear developers, please consider unsquishing it. The Sandbox group (1332 members as of this post) had adopted that hidden space as our Secret Lair.  Accessible only by teleportation, it was a place where player-written missions and quests could easily be distributed, where resources could be shared, and where people could meet up prior to embarking on fun flash mobs.  Maintained entirely by volunteers from the Sandbox group, tp scripts to the lair were available to anyone who asked for them. In "fixing" this so-called "bug" you have destroyed one of the very things that makes Glitch great for so many players.

Please, please, please give us back our Secret Lair!

  • I know this may be me playing the devil's advocate, but:
If that was your lair, can you not just as easily make ANOTHER lair? What makes it special? I think that only being able to get to it via TP or scripts makes it 100X more secret. That way, there is no worries for someone randomly taking everything. Anyways, are there any other "secret" locations? Please IM or mail me in-game! I will do my best to help you write scripts (when i get the skill today or tomorrow ... or in a few days!)

  • Give it back!!! DDDDD:

The Lair is our most holy of holies! It's where we rest our weary heads after a long day of super secret agenting. It's how we communicate covertly and provide agents with necessary provisions.

And most importantly it's my favorite napping place!!! DDDD:

  • The loss of my lair has induced some strange sandboxy behaviour in me these past days.  If you find a whole street full of something very secret-missiony that is quite probably my doing. >_>

  • Didn't realise it had gone until I tried to port there for a tidy up.  What a shame, hopefully we'll get group housing soon and then we can go there.

  • I, too, had believed that the Lair was an arrangement with TS. In light of its being "fixed," I add my voice to the masses clamoring for its return.

    Pretty please?

  • The floor has not been returned, but a solution (and a missing floor!) has been found!

I had a conversation with a very curious sort today, a tom bomba*. Tom is a wanderer, an explorer. A bit shy, maybe untrusting, the introduction was a challenge. A friend of a friend told me of him, but knowing was not enough. By giving him a quill, I gained his trust. He knew that I was a curious mind in need. Tom seemed very wise and told me that he was always shocked by the places people pass over and the things no one notices even though they are right under their nose. He told me he remembered just such a place that might be perfect for the Sandbox's needs and then he led me to a place... a missing floor. He seemed certain there were others, but this was the only one he told me of and was gone before I could learn more.

So the tradition shall continue. Curious minds may find me, or others who know, and present them with a quill with which they can share their knowledge. Perhaps when you find a similarly curious place, you'll do the same. In honor of tom bomba. The mysterious strange with deep knowledge of Ur.
Sandboxers! Check in with the group. And get to exploring! Who knows just what else we're missing.

*Yes, tom was created by staff for, at least, the purpose of hinting to the Sandboxers of the existence of these mysterious places. We, or at least I, have taken it upon ourselves, myself, to spread tom's word.

  • So as it turns out, none of these publicly accessible rooms are working out.  Players who are not in sandbox come in and pick up all the food and mission notes, leaving the room bare.

  • It is possible that, once the "shininess" wears off a bit, these spaces will become more functional as Lairs than they are now.

As it is, some people are bored enough (or able to find reasons to be offended that some other players are using a space for a particular purpose they don't like) that "griefing" shared public spaces that some have chosen to use for a specific purpose is "fun" for them right now. When it is no longer as much "fun" to take everything not nailed down and remove quest suggestion notes and such, perhaps the spaces can be used again to entertain many with alternate suggestions for things to do in Ur.

In the meantime, drop nothing that you have an attachment to; drop only what you don't care about--at all--any more, because once an item is dropped, it is no one's property any more, and anyone can take all, none or some of what you leave behind and you have no control over what choice anyone else might make. It really doesn't matter what motivates the human goodie-Hoovers, be it innocence, greed, or something in between. The game mechanics allow greed as well as generosity, and some folks, out of need or selfishness or simply not knowing the preferred etiquette of the majority, are going to choose to take ALL the things and they will choose to do so ALL of the time. It only takes one or two, and social pressure can only go so far if the intent is, indeed, to grief or take ALL the things not nailed down or to somehow "protest" that a public group which is open to everyone playing Glitch is using a public space in a way that the "Take ALL The Things!" person happens to have an issue with, for whatever reason.

As we have seen, some folks are always going to see things differently, right or wrong, than you do. In a public space, you have to go with the flow. Otherwise you wind up with the same unwinnable "wars" (be they over trees or mining styles or public gardens) that have all sides acting like small children and being stubbornly attached to whatever narrative they like best which also handily paints their POV as being right and true and the other guys' POV(s) as being wrong and bad.

In this case, the conflicting POVs are going to be "this is meant to benefit the majority and things we put here are to be shared with any and all Glitchen who find them (and we hope you will feel motivated to contribute but you don't HAVE to), and to offer alternative fun quest-like activities to all to enhance your gameplay here in Glitch" and "this is a public street / space, I don't like that your group appears to benefit in any way whatsoever from using a public space (even if I could join the group, too) to promote the activities and pro-social / sharing / cooperative behavior that the group enjoys, and I feel justified in taking whatever is dropped or tinkering with what you have chosen to do, just because I enjoy that style of play more and because I can."

Public spaces are never going to be free of conflict, because there will always be at least one person who views any attempt to change or improve or alter that public space as someone / a group imposing their will upon that disgruntled person, and the result is that the unhappy person is going to do something--big, small, briefly or at length--to express unhappiness. If enough people express irritation about it, it will then turn into an unwinnable "war" over a public space.

    'Nuff said.
