Menubar font change just now?

It may be the Hooch talking, but did I just see the fonts in the menubar and the columns on the Home page change? Anybody else notice, or do I need to lay off the sauce?

  • Looks like they changed to http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/urw/vag-rundschrift/d-light/.

  • Nope, it is reality! We finally got around to switching from the webfont Rocko to VAG Rundschrift (which is the typeface we officiallly use elsewhere).

  • i think I prefer the old menu bar fonts....

  • I thought I recognized it stoot, so glad I'm not insane. Consistency as a whole is good! I'll see how I feel about the actual font where it is after I've seen it a while.

  • first impression 'in situ' isn't good but looking at the isolated font in comparison to Rocko, it should look better.

    weird.

  • Glad it's not the hooch! :)

  • (Personally, it's driving me crazy right now — the bold is too bold and the light is too light, but I think I'll get used to it ;)

  • The bold is fine for me but the light font is way too light for these old eyes lol

  • stoot - agreed, but like striatic said, when I isolated it in the page you linked to, it looked great. Hmm.

Lelu - it still might be the hooch.

  • The old font was better in my opinion.

  • on second glance...the bold does rather look like someone over-inked it lol

  • I honestly like the new font's. I like the bold font, you know as you get older the bigger the better.

  • I'm down with boldness, whether it be coffee, font, attitude, etc. The light is a little flimsy though. But it could just be me being used to the weight of the old one and the contrast between the light and heavy fonts being a lot.

Just so everybody knows, *this guy* a huge typography nerd.

  • The font from a couple of months ago was great.  I don't like the current or last fonts because the edges of many of the letters look jagged, and the overall effect is amateurish.

  • the bowl on the old 'o' and 'e' were horrible.  the new font looks a little janky in chrome/windows (though better everywhere else).

  • menubar font isn't bad on its own.

it's just that it looks weak compared to the current arial body and heading font weight.

  • chrome/windows that must be my problem...  i'll try it on my macbook

  • Nope.I dont like it either. Down with the new fonts. Or at least just the fine ones. Make everything bold or something

  • Looks great to me in all my browsers. Yes, feels lighter but to me that means cleaner.

  • I love the font, but with the amount of energy I have the number are really close to being outside of the circle.

  • I really didn't like the old Rocko - too irregular on the stroke thicknesses, it grated on me. The new one's fine and tidy with the right amount of informality.

Ooh, la-di-da, look at the art critic!

  • Yep, I liked the old font better :-)

  • After a few hours to get used to it, I like the new font, even if it is a tad on the light side. The consistency of fonts overall on the page is a good trade-off.

  • OMG, I never even noticed, pass me the hooch :/
Posted 19 months ago by snygyst Subscriber! | Permalink
  • IMHO the old Rocko added more to the cartoon-ness (is the such word) and magic of the game, which I found wonderful. The current small font looks like an ordinary web font of an ordinary website for me. Please bring the old font back! :)

  • I feel validated to find that there were so many other people for whom the font change was immediately noticeable. I'll cast a vote for the new font. It's a crisper font, but if you look carefully, it still has a playful feel. It also has a great floral nose and a wonderful silky mouthfeel... wait, now I'm talking about the hooch, nevermind.

  • Lol @Ysebela. We are all prisoners of the hooch.

  • Wow we almost have "font snobbery", just kidding.  I always like Aerial easy to read, great varietal, has more of chocolate aroma with a hint of wild cherry.  :)

  • Will this font change carry through to the entire site, including the official blog at Glitch.com?

  • AHHHHHHHH! That is MUCH better now! As a graphic designer, I am suitably relieved at the switchover. Big, goofy grin on my face (that I am glad you can't see)!

  • I'm at level 36, and the bottoms of those two numbers, which are in bold, are actually appearing as flat lines with the ends sticking out from the rest of the number.  It is Not Good.  As I adjust the zoom settings on the browser (Firefox), the jagged edges do not disappear, and the spacing between characters changes.  The font in use a few months ago was very nice... can we have that one back?  :)
Posted 19 months ago by glum pudding Subscriber! | Permalink
  • glum pudding: the bit that says "Made it to Level 36" is plain old Arial - it hasn't changed

Herp Derp: the blog will change soon. everything will use the same font eventually :)

  • I meant the top of my screen as I look at the forums, which says "Level 36" in very bold letters, not the wording on my profile page.  I was under the impression that we were all talking about the font(s) at the top of the page, where it shows mood/energy/level/currants, and the links to Home/Profile/Skills/Friends etc.

  • ahh! i have web-blindness, having seen it every day for a year :D

it looks like this for me in Firefox 4.0 on windows: http://i.imgur.com/Smdsy.png

looks like you're using 4.01 on a newer version of windows - we'll see if it's something we can fix
