Content Creation, or The Male Fashion Dilemma [SOLVED!]

Edit: A sizable and hefty thank-you-kindly to the devs who helped turn my dream into a reality

For those of us gentlemen who enjoy plain ol' fashion (y'know, the kind that doesn't involve lasers or kimono or tentacles or...) there aren't a great many options in the wardrobe. I mean, sure, you could wear the bartender top and pass it off as a suit, but all the pants have flared bottoms. All the pants have FLARED BOTTOMS. Boy, howdy.

But hey, we can't expect TS to crank out clothes (priorities, priorities) which makes me wonder if content creation will ever be a part of the game.

And which finally brings me to this:
I quickly sketched up a few things I'd wear this Glitchian Summer.
(Drawn from scratch, not utilizing any currently existing clothing.)
We're talkin' straight-leg hemmed pants. We're talkin' wingtip brogues. We're talkin' wayfarers.

Consider it a wishlist, of sorts.
Thoughts?

  • I would love to see content creation in glitch. I think it would be a fantastic idea. Even if TS charged for a content creation packs ie templates and things to create the clothing on. I really think it would add a whole new depth to the game. Maybe even allow a market section were people could sell their designs. I think its an awesome idea.

  • Wow! I am blown away by the awesomeness of your masculine fashion sense!

These styles are not drab or clunky!  They are manly and classic and worthy of Cary Grant or Fred Astaire!

Why can't there be room in Glitch for this kind of timelessly beautiful style?  Why can't we have the choice to be elegant?  Why can't we rise above the dreariness of contemporary fashion?

Thank you so much for your amazing designs!

  • Nice work, but your pants could really use a bit more flare.

  • This is what I would pay currants for.  The yeti hats, not so much.   But then, that's just me.  See my profile pix.

  • Well done, sir!

Someday, myself, I hope to earn enough to afford a bespoke suit that matches my hair.  A fine British Racing Green!

    I also long for tweed.

But as the industry currently stands, no amount of currants nor credits could win me such a wardrobe.  Hopefully, this will be the first step in building a new Humbabile Row.

  • Although I have noticed the dearth of male oriented fashions and overwhelmingly effeminate selections, to be honest, I haven't really paid attention to whether the pants were bell bottoms or not. All I ever noticed was that most seem to be effeminate. It really doesn't bother me too much though, since this game is a passing fancy anyway. I'm wearing essentially the same outfit I was wearing before Christmas 2011 and will be wearing when I cancel my subscription after my pre-paid period has ended. Personally, I think the foppish insistence on fashion sense and looks over content is simply another symptom of the vapid age we're living in.

    Fun...being sapped...can't...design...

    Edit:

I love the snappy pinstripe, and the sunglasses (OMGiants glasses)!  One of 'Anski's outfits would be so much cuter with a pair of Ray Bans for her to peer through.  Although I must say I'm more in favour of a monocle, with different (coloured) chains for different occasions.

  • Not man here, still—however my new look could be carried off by a man of style, I think. The pants (admittedly purple) seem straight to me.

Perhaps I'm blinded by my double-X chromosomes, however.

In any case, I heartily second the notion of player content-creation (perhaps with TS profit-sharing!). TS could provide the templates for wallpaper and decorations, furniture, even avatar clothing. Individuals could then "sell" their own creations in-world (perhaps an approval step would be required?) for credits.

A glitch can dream, can't she?

  • +1 to pascale's suggestion, above.

and, sweet sunglasses. love that you made them translucent instead of opaque, with light glare highlights, even!
Posted 5 months ago by Kinkajou Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm sure that at one time TS promised us more clothing for gentlemen so maybe that is still under wraps!
Posted 5 months ago by Moz Art Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Pascale, while I can't guarantee it's still the case, about a year ago stoot told me that one of the long-term goals was to have a somewhat threadless-like marketplace for user-designed clothes.  You could also liken it to Team Fortress 2's hats.
Posted 5 months ago by Magic Monkey Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The flared pants aren't flared if you wear boots with 'em. As those are most of the shoes I wear with my outfits (despite not having any white wellies), I'm good personally.
Nice clothing ideas, though. Very cool :)

  • Woah...sunglasses. Want!
Posted 5 months ago by OMG BACON!! Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Those are pretty dang sweet. On content creation, I think that may happen eventually, but I think it would take a lot of time to make sure that content works within Glitch.

I wish that the wardrobe for men included some more classic clothing and the glasses are awesome. I'd love to see a paper boy style hat too.

  • I have the opposite problem.  The shirts all seem to be overly "male" and the shoes are HUGE... I don't want giant feet on my Glitch.  She's cute and insists on staying that way.

  • +1 Zooo  on the shoes.... there's only one pair of shoes my glitch wears. All the others look way too big.  The hats all overwhelm the hair styles, too.

  • They've stated numerous times that it's incredibly difficult to do that for ALL hats and ears because of all the different states needed. There are many, many styles that work with all hair types though, aren't there?

  • Law & Order: SVU — great job! (Terrible name, but … you can't win 'em all.)

As Magic Monkey said, we'd love to be able to do something like Threadless (more like Threadless-meets-the-App-Store) to get lots of people designing clothes. Unfortunately, it's not simple at all (partly because of the way the assets need to be prepared and managed and partly because if we're selling things on behalf of other people we'd usually have to send tax forms in and build all kinds of new systems for accounting and reporting).

    But — maybe someday :)

In the meantime, Law & Order: SVU, if you want to make a deal, we can probably get those in the game. If you're interested, let us know and we'll get in touch.

  • Re sunglasses (and beards, rouge, moles, freckles, etc.) — we need a new slot for all these things and it won't happen "soon", but it will happen "later". (We also need to integrate the Vanity & Wardrobe into one app and do some other fundamental adjustments, like put the facial features onto curves and allow feature-specific scaling, and a bunch of other stuff.)

  • I love all of these outfits! Especially those sunglasses. My little glitch needs them in her life.
