Foes

Is it possible to add to the Block mechanic the idea that if one of my friends has blocked you, that fact is obvious (your name appears in red, or with a badge or something) - and that the more of my friends who have blocked you, the more "foe-like" you become?

I keep thinking about how to deal with certain kind of griefing, in the recognition that it impossible to completely correct for it.  Some sort of social mechanic seems a good tack for Glitch, and being marked for your bad actions would lead to consequences for them.

I would expect that many Glitchen might think think twice about being generous to someone that 5 of their friends have blocked, and that might be an effective curb in itself.

  • So you mean something like a reputation system? I think with any idea this could have potential of being abused.

  • Not necessarily "100 glitches hate Vinchon" - people who aren't my friends wouldn't count in the figuring.  But if you've done something to my friends to where they'll block you, it seems reasonable that I'd want to know about it.  Given that the only blocks you'd see are your friend's blocks, how could this realistically be abused?

  • I think perhaps this could be abused to the effect that it would similar to calling someone out in the forums (albeit in an indirect way) and possibly an abuse of privacy for the one doing the blocking.  I personally haven't blocked anyone, but if I did, I'd like to think it was my own business.

  • I think the only time I've blocked someone was when I was getting a bunch of group invites I wasn't interested in and eventually got sick of clearing them out. I don't really want to advertise the fact that I've blocked them -- it's not a character judgement in any way, and I don't want my friends to be wary of an innocent Glitch because of the way I personally use the blocking system.

That's just one example, but I think there's a big chance that other people are using blocking in different ways, and something like this would cause misinterpretations.
