[Updated] Nerf: Quoins in "Ticket to _______" upgrade card locations count towards daily limit, with some exceptions

UPDATE: We are going to switch to a different way of limiting the rate at which iMG/currants/mood/energy/favor can be produced through the use of ticket cards: quoins in these locations will again be exempt from the daily quoin limit, but their use will limited to 11 times per game day.

In addition, (a) the price of activation will go up slightly for players with higher quoin multipliers (b) you will be able to 'eat' tickets to return most of their purchase cost.

We'll be releasing this change tomorrow [Weds, Sept 12] and will post here when we do. UPDATED: This is now launched.

So that the ensuring discussion makes sense, the original post is preserved below:

______
Until now, quoins you collected in the "Ticket" locations (listed here) did not count towards your daily quoin limit. (Actually, at first they did count, but we changed it because it was sucky to use one of the cards and then find that you couldn't actually collect any of the quoins.)

Now, the quoins you collect there do count towards your limit, BUT: if you hit your limit in one of these locations you can keep collecting until you are done. (When you are at your limit, you will not be able to activate another card until the new day.)

The motivation for this change is pretty simple: for players with large multipliers, it was overwhelmingly more "profitable" to spend each moment using the tickets over and over. The tickets were meant to be fun, but if you do 150 of them in a row they cease being quite so fun :\

Also, now that we have sharding, being at your limit isn't as bad — you can still join in a sharding party and reap the quoinly benefits.

  • I really don't like the cost of 3500. I know there is still a net gain but it just seems too expensive. I would much rather you reduce the gains and bring the cost down.

  • (Also I strongly feel that the 2nd nerf is more nerfed than the 1st nerf)

  • mmmmmmm.... cards.... *SnarffleSnafffle*

  • There's really no difference in net gain between high cost+gains and low cost+gains so I don't think that's strictly necessary just for the sake of making things seem less expensive.

I was advocating for just limiting the amount of cards, so yay! Thank you for the de-nerf.

  • Makai, I agree there would be no difference in net gain. The difference would be psychological.

  • If you're using the cards to level grind, the entrance fee *doesn't actually matter*.  If you use them to buy upgrades, that 2600 I pay as an entrance fee is slightly annoying, but that's not getting subtracted from the total over all I've earned, and I keep all 6k or so I get in the card towards the level.

  • So let me just try to understand this whole mess a bit. Nerf=bad and denerf=good. Is this right?
Being a level 22 and only currently using the cards as a "fun" experience (like taking a glitchy vacation in Ur) I like that the cards don't count towards my daily limit. This means there is less for me to keep track of.
Speaking of quoins, is there a way to raise the height of the quoins in the Ancestral Lands so that your character doesn't automatically run into them or is that a bit of the point there? I know I could jump over them and sometimes I do, but it is often difficult. When I have reached my 100% mood or energy it is annoying to run into the quoins and use up my limit and not get any actual benefit.

  • JohnaMarie is totally right. I rescind my complaints.

  • "Also, you can now eat them" does it.

    Great job, TS!

  • I'm sure that atleast a few other people have expressed this, but I really like the Idea of doing away with the quoin limit, on top of the fix that was already implemented, that would be super awesome. Collecting quoins is one of my favorite glitchtivitys. And yes, I just made that word up, just now. Also, I'm thinking of making a forum topic to rally people together for this idea, because I think it would be a really god thing. Probably won't right now, but maybe tomorrow, it's late here.

  • Hurm. The Activation Troll now demands 3500 iMG instead of 2000. I still made about 7200 iMG back (Arbor Hollow) but it didn't affect my daily quoin limit.

Still, I still feel like the Rube has just offered me a Cheese Sammich for my Fancy Pick. Meh. That's the way the world is imagined now. Time to go cruising the Ancestral Lands again.

  • I really like the Idea of doing away with the quoin limit

Uh, wouldn't that just make a worse version of the problem they just had to fix - namely that people would do nothing but collect quoins?

  • Very sensible solution. And love being able to eat spare cards.

  • +1 for making the "Ticket to _______" less frequent in the reshuffles.

Am searching for certain upgrades, must purchase tickets and now the majority are basically useless since they are limited to 11 a day.  And the 20 iMg for eating isn't much of an incentive for riding Ur of them.

  • shhexy corin: I'm assuming they meant doing away with the *hard* quoin limit (#1 on stoot's 3-point post)

I really hope they're NOT made less frequent.  I and others will still collect them and will use them, I know people like to accumulate and sell, etc.  If you're looking to get the card out of the way so that the upgrades you want will possibly appear, then you're spending a net of, what, 6 img or something? I'm not sure completely how much they cost but I think it works out to something like 6 over what you'd get by eating.  So yeah, not a ton of cost in order to turn over another card.  And of course there are other options like collecting them and waiting until you have a bunch and selling them in bulk.

edit: I think the idea you were supporting of making the tickets less frequent was put forward as an alternative way of addressing the nerf, which has already been dealt with.

  • Thanks for listening, Stoot.  This solution is a lot more fair and fun!

@Sayuri, I don't want them less frequent. I hardly ever get 11 in a day and I always use my cards.  If you want to go through your cards fast and not play tickets, there is a tiny iMG cost associated with it now. There is no rush to get your upgrades.  They'll show up eventually in your daily free reshuffle..

  • I just want to say I'm not happy being painted as the bad guy for enjoying gameplay in a different way than other people. I put my time and work in to get the imagination to buy the quoin multiplier cards. Isn't the point of buying upgrades to reap benefits from getting them? I truly had fun saving up the tickets I bought each day until I had about 25 and then doing them all at once. It was a blast, it was a reason to come in game and play. Sure, I'm bummed I can't do that anymore, but I'll live. What I could really do without is people saying that I was being unfair and the way I played wasn't 'right.' :\

  • Csophae: I don't think anyone is painting you as "the bad guy" (at least I haven't seen it).

Consider this analogy: tic tac toe is not a very fun game for most adults since it is "solved" (there is always an unambiguous best move, in any circumstance). But, no one blames the tic tac toe player for making the best move or says that the player is being unfair for making the move … they just say that tic tac toe is a boring game. We're trying to avoid making Glitch boring by balancing thing so there isn't one "move" which so completely dominates all other "moves".

  • Glitch supports so many different types of game play that tweaks like this to just don't phase me in the least.  If a glitch wants to level grind there are lots of other options. :-)

Remember, we beta then open then beta again players are here to help Stoot and company work things out before going live again.

  • Like I was saying to a friend last night in regards to things like this, and Yellow Crumb, and agreeing with flat & stoot.  It keeps the game diverse and multi-versatile.  I myself am on the crumb atm for donation purposes, and was on the verge of spamming tickets, (After I found out they did not count towards the limit) but things like this keep players on their toes, and not all gunning for the same objective.  I used to play FFXI for 3-4 yrs, and these will be the first nerfs ever to affect me.  And I'm actually glad since it is not limited to just one specific race or class, but affects everyone, and helps stabilize the game all around, and keeps strategy individualized.  Which also helps in ways such as sell-able goods, so half of us for example (like previously stated) aren't all going after the same specific item for currants, when there is so much out there to be had.  :)

P.S.  You are correct FlatEarther.  This is Beta, and labeled such (i'm sure) for a reason.  There are kinks, and they need to be worked out so there are as little 'exploitable' aspects as possible.  I might be on the grind right now, but I've spent more time in Glitch meeting and corresponding with people more than leveling or anything..and badges...'Gotta snatch em all.'
