Pros and Cons of a large energy tank

My energy tank is at 34,990.

Pros:
  - I don't need to check my mood, as it is always very high.
The advice from Mathemaglitch to keep it around 2,000 is obsolete.

  - I am able to do most of anything without caring about my energy.
However, as I am working towards the Z class badge, I still get low energy after
    9 TPs.

Cons:
  - When I die, it would take me to eat a lot to get out of pooped state.
BUT, there are two ways to regain full energy and mood: increase my energy tank
and get out of hell card. As I have 4 millions iMG and 50 get out of hell cards,
Dying is not really a problem.

So, if you have a lot of iMG and are only getting energy tank increase, get out of hell
and reshuffle cards, I would recommend that you increase your energy tank to a high value.

  • You may want to re-read this thread
    www.glitch.com/forum/genera...

And take a look at this analysis
    mathemaglitch.blogspot.ca/p...

It was updated after the Mood Loser cards were released.

  • Ouch; you need an "energy tank +10" upgrade card! :)

  • yeah, I find life much easier in game with a bigger tank too.  Rarely have to eat unless I want to clear some room in my bags and same as op, I just use the get out of hell free cards or buy another energy upgrade - life is pretty sweet atm lol

  • Mood is not a problem?  Really?
Posted 6 months ago by WalruZ Subscriber! | Permalink
  • seriously no, I can't remember the last time my mood dropped.  Though to be fair I don't sit on my arse in game either.  I'm always doing something or other to gain img : )

Edit - I did buy the mood upgrade cards though

  • @WalruZ - No, mood is NOT a problem. With the upgrade cards, doing nothing I only lose 15 mood per minute. So, to get below 99%, it would take 233 minutes, that is almost the 4 hours of real time of a full game day. Even if I had not taken the upgrade cards, after 4 hours my mood would still be 97%. So, no mood is not a problem.

  • @WindBorn - Yes, I have read this very old thread and the new Mathemaglitch article. Nothing in the article contradicts what I am saying.

  • Me and yggy are at the same level, and I have 15 million iMG. So, while this is not a very compelling argument at the moment, in the future, Ygasuasu may have wished he saved that 11 million he spent on energy tank, and invested it in any new things we may have to invest iMG in.

I find that mood, while still a problem, is fairly negligible when you get to around 8k. Since you're multiplying by a factor of four the time you have at full mood at the cutoff point of 2k, and icons and AL mood quoins remain EXCELLENT sources of large mood boosts.

So, I'd have to argue and say that 10k is the best place to stop upgrading energy. I've heard that Get out of Hell Cards will only fill you up to 10k and won't fill the full 34k tank. Since that's where the benefit of Hell cards drop off, it's impossible to use up all 10k energy effectively during a nono crash and other such energy related activities, and 10 teles still drains the tank no matter what, I'd say stop at 10k.

But, the point is no matter what's optimal, you should go with whatever you're comfortable with! I think, for my gameplay, 10k probably would be the optimal tank size. But to me, iMG in the bank is worth more than an optimal energy tank, since I see great things in the future we'll need iMG to spend on. I'm a bit of an iMG hoarder despite Stoot's best advising ;) Though I did buy everything else ;)

  • Mine is around 13k and I believe the get out of hell card does fill up for me completely - I'll have to double check next time I croak : )   I'm definitely continuing to add on more energy as I progress - it's brought me back to where I was at level 60 before the change over.  I don't have to worry about drinks anymore and the not needing food is a brilliant bonus.  I still do cook though for imagination but just donate it or gift it to younger players.

Also of course every energy upgrade fills you up completely too - which is great!! I'm becoming quite adept at butterfly singing :O)

  • Hell cards were capped at 9999, but that's been fixed.

My updated analysis does not show a cap on useful energy, however, it is worth noting that when you get above 8k the only benefits you'll get from higher energy are things that give full refills.  So hell cards and buying up your tank.  Any benefit you'd get from anything else has already capped.

My energy tank is 2800, but given my own analysis and my personal playstyle this is a bad decision on my part.

In the future things might change and energy will become better or worse.  If it becomes worse then we'll regret buying our tanks up, if it becomes better and more expensive then we'll regret not buying our tanks up.  I highly doubt that anything between 2k and 4k will get badly punished either way.  I can understand 1k or less if you are working on teleporter badges but I would find it really inconvenient because of needing to refill between crafting stacks (if you need to make two or three clicks between crafting stacks of 40 white gas, for example, that's probably a 4-5% slow down).  I would be nervous about having 34k but I can't claim that's really rational.

  • Thanks for the info! Working on my quoin multiplier right now and wasn't planning on working on energy at all, but I will look into it now when my multiplier is at 100!

  • I think it also depends on how you play. I tend to log in and play for 2-3 hours when I do - I play while watching tv with the fam, or when my spouse is watching a sporting event. If I only logged in and played for a half hour at a time here and there, I wouldn't care so much about a big tank. But I want to be able to play for long stretches. I do this by logging in an hour or so before a new day, so I get that refil, but I still find myself running out of energy and using hell cards or buying another upgrade.

There are just so many things I want to DO! And they take energy. And awesome stews are, well, awesome, but.

  • The tricky bit to using a big energy tank to last longer is that the bigger it is the faster it decays as well.  If you play for 3 hours and have a new-day refill in the middle then that's not such a big deal (you get 2 refills and lose 96% of an energy tank to time).  It's just worth keeping in mind that buying 100 more energy doesn't get your 100 more energy to spend each day (or maybe it does if you are using hell cards).

  • Hell cards seem a bit scarcer recently, or have I just been unlucky?
Posted 6 months ago by geekybird Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Humbabella, can you explain why buying 100 additional energy would not give me 100 more energy to work with. *is confused*
Posted 6 months ago by Grackle Subscriber! | Permalink
  • My interpretation is that if it's decaying faster, you have to work harder / smarter to use energy before it decays away.

  • geekybird, I too have noticed that both hell and reshuffle cards seem to be showing up less frequently. Don't know if it's just a run of bad luck or if something has changed.

  • I have a large tank and no problems. There are enough resources in the game to keep both my energy and mood up. I also have a many 'get out of Hell' cards and know that, if I need to, I could intentionally die and resurrect myself with a card and receive 100% mood and energy.  Also, energy and mood are filled to 100% capacity at the start of every Glitch day(4 hours).

  • What I mean by 100 energy not giving you 100 energy is that it also increases the amount of energy you lose per 90 seconds by 0.8.

So if you have an energy tank of 1000 and you play for two hours then you lose 640 energy over that time - meaning you have only 360 to spend (plus food, reveres, etc.)

If you have an energy tank of 1100 and you play for that same two hours then you lose 704 energy over that same time - meaning you have only 396 energy to spend (plus the same food, reveres, etc).

So the 100 energy only gave you 36 more energy to spend.

Of course if you use a hell card then you get your energy tank back so that 100 extra energy is 100 more you can spend that day.  If you were hitting your food limit then that 100 extra energy might mean being able to spend 2000 more energy.  There are other things that affect the worth of energy too (teleports, buying energy upgrades, zen).  For a really detailed analysis see WindBorn's link to my blog in the second comment.
