beloved sound effects

In response to the recent pig and tree noise additions, I'm starting a thread to discuss the varied auditory delights that Glitch has to offer.  Cacophony (of the malevolent wheel-spinning sort - *shudder*) has no place here.  I'm especially fond of the following:

Tincturing - I adore its hollow, glass-on-glass tinkliness.  Smelting - A delightful transmogrification.  Crushing - I use a mortar and pestle IRL for grinding spices & find something very patient and comforting about this noise.

Which Glitchy sounds bring you pleasure and glee?  Discuss.

  • Tincturing is awesome.  I also love how it is also often followed by the low thrum and bubble of potion making.

I have to admit, however, having a sinister love of the chicken squawk.

  • I love the eerie sound potions make as you brew them!

  • I love that wet, vacuumy -shplock- of jellisac scooping the best. I also like the musical tincturing clinkety-clink sound finishing with the pop of the cap.

  • i like the gameshow wheel! I always clap along with it!

  • The still!  The echoing "boomp" of the cork, followed by that comforting glug-glug-glug, has to be my favourite.

  • Tincturing is definitely my favorite!

  • Ooh, the shlubby clunk of putting potatoes (or probably anything) into a still!  So satisfying.

  • I harvest jellisacs because they're pretty and glisteny and green, but I primarily harvest them to hear the 'schloop' of reluctant removal.  Music to my ears.

  • i loved the nibblenibblenibble! they got rid of that though... i do like the gameshow wheel though :)

  • Each sound has a special delight for me.  I am hard pressed to pick only one that delights me the most.  I can't think of any sound I don't like.  I do also love the scloop of scooping jellis.  All of the alchemical sounds are great and make creating potions, tinctures and other alchemical brews a pleasure.  Animal noises give me a smile, even the squawk of chickens.  I am often annoyed by chickens as they are forever underfoot but that squawk brings satisfaction.  I guess I appreciate all the sounds and the music.  Well done Danny and anyone else involved!

  • i also like the fruit changing machine :)
its the old sound of making fruit i love :)

  • yes, tincturing is great - i often sing along: 'bink-a-dink-dink-dink *chicka-chicka-chicka*!'

ETA: i have also heard it said that the sound of barnacle scraping is so satisfying as to make it almost impossible to not scrape a barnacle

ETAA: i like the wheel-spinning song!  also, speaking of cacophony, there was a while where projects had the bug where the sound wouldn't stop when the action was finished.  so sometimes you would get a really great combination of 2-3 crafting noises that, combined, made the most excellent beat!  this would be a fun thing to bring back into the game somehow :)

  • Yeah tincturing is absolutely my favourite, followed of course by the cluck-SQUAK of the chikkies. <3

  • Tincturing is my favourite by far.

@dm - shplock is one of the most fantastic examples of onomatopoeia I've seen in a while =)

  • Crystalmalizing is my favourite.  That unbelievably high-pitched "ching" of the crystal as it forms gets me every time.   Amazing.

  • The jellisac schloop is first on my list.  I also harvest them simply for the pleasure of the sound.

But all of the noises are great.  I for one, love the game show, along with all of the new sounds.  They add so much to the game for me.

  • Super harvest/Random kindness sound just makes me smile every time...almost as much as the original Glitch whistling music...

  • I was always partial to the unexpectedly loud thud of the dust traps. It startled me the first time I heard it.

Also, I love the angelic choir sounds of donating to shrines. ^_^

  • I'm glad y'all love the game show song!  I would certainly never lobby for its removal - it's just not my cup of tea, so I mute while I spin.  First-world problem solved.  ^_^

I'm fond of the level-up kazoo, the tubular bell which signals emblem retrieval, and trees sighing in well-watered relief.  Also: the evocative language in this thread is making me happy.

  • I don't know why, but the "schlorp" of jellisac just makes me way too happy.

I do wish the Devs would consider accessibility, and people who choose to or have to play with the sound off.  I found at least two of my DNAja Vu spots only because there was a strange sound on those streets that sent me exploring more carefully.  There should be an equivalent visual cue, maybe a message in local "This street feels strangely familiar", in case you don't have sound.

  • Oooo, this thread warms my heart!!!

Mereret, it's true we do need to make some adjustments for who can't hear or play with sound off.  Thank you for the reminder.

  • Rube notification music!!!!! *runs around frantically* where is he? where is he? I'm over here! Do you see me?

  • The singing-to-butterflies La! is my favorite. Tincturing and Potion-brewing noises are close seconds.  And I do love the sigh of a well-watered tree.  Plus the hoe-scraping sound when gardening is pretty satisfying, scrch-scrch.

  • I love just about every sound that comes at me in the game. The jellisac schlorp is probably king, but tincturing and potionmaking are glorious too. And the music. The music! I think this is the first game I have played with the music on by choice - and turned way up in Ix and in the firebogs. So much of Glitch feels good in my ears.

  • Hah! I thought I was the only one harvesting jellisacs just to hear them detach. It is such an awesome sound! :D
But yeah, tincturing is quite lovely as well.

i also love the crystamalizing chamber zap and the tinkling of the tincture kit.

  • Oh derek smalls - I love the Rube warning song too. So much that it is now the ring tone on my phone. People look at me strangely when it rings, but I know one day a fellow Glitch will smile when they hear it at the table next to them in a cafe.
Posted 8 months ago by Kookaburra Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It is my ring tone, too!  Though, I tend to keep my phone on silent.  Knowing my luck, the only time it'll actually go off out loud is in the theater.
Posted 8 months ago by Carl Projectorinski Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The super jump boing noise!
Posted 8 months ago by anonymoose Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I use the Rube ring tone for calls and as my alarm in the mornings. It still tricks me into waking up and looking around for something good.
Posted 8 months ago by Aleph Zero Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ooooh.. Alarm clock...

The super jump boing noise would make an excellent SMS/TXT message sound!

  • Jellisac noise for sure. I do have a soft spot for the contented tree-sigh when they're petted and watered, as it was one of the very first sounds I heard when I started playing. I try to really *listen* to it every now and then, to recapture those first days of delight.

And I'm super-partial to the Snappy Groddle theme with the whistling, which you hear in the start street. It's *my* ringtone, and somehow I don't mind telemarketers calling anymore--I just whistle along with my phone.
