Authorized Applications level of access

I remember seeing  an option to view my real name (not glitch character name) somewhere, and choosing the option  'no one except my friends' can view my name. But can't find this option again.

Basically authorized apps like feedyourglutt and 'show me my stuff' are able to see my real name, which I think should be restricted. Is it possible for glitch api to allow applications to read my game info like auctions, etc; but not allow applications to access my real name and so forth.

  • Yesterday I saw my real name in the Edit your bio page, and changed it, you could try, but i'm not sure if it'll work.

  • I don't have my real name listed in my profile (and haven't for some time), but I am seeing it in these apps.

But no one can see my stuff via these apps, yet, right?  My concern would be any apps that can display my character to another person with my real name attached, given that I don't have my real name listed on the site (and this is hypothetical - I don't know of any such apps).

  • Thank you Astrid and Mac Rap. I did remove my name from the bio several hours back (talk about short term memory). But surprisingly these external applications still remember my name.  I emptied the cache, removed the access and granted them again, restarted the browser and everything else I could think of.

The Name field in Edit Bio is blank. But still these external applications are getting my name from somewhere. That means the name is stored somewhere else too, other than just the bio. I think this is api bug. Thoughts?

  • Certainly in the case of the apps that I have written, they only show your name to you. No one else gets to see it. In the case of the two JavaScript apps on my web site, it doesn't even pass through my server - it's a purely private matter between the glitch servers and your web browser.

  • I understand dopiaza. I am just trying to highlight the fact maybe the name is being stored not just in the bio on glitch servers. The getName (or whatever api call that accesses the name from glitch servers and displays on your application) must be accessing the data where the name is stored. When the bio name is deleted looks like the other place is not updated too.

  • Hmm — I'm not even sure why the apps would ever need your name (as opposed to your character name). We'll check into it …
