ClickToFlash

Anyone else use ClickToFlash? Having any problems using it with Glitch? I found I had to uninstall it to play; it wouldn't work in the default way.

  • Yeah, I had this issue too. Tried adding alpha.glitch.com to whitelist and disabling the plugin but no dice. Using Chrome rather than Safari to play for now.

  • Cool, I thought it might just be me!

  • Is there any chance Glitch will ever play nice with ClickToFlash? Currently I have alpha.glitch.com, c1.glitch.bz and c2.glitch.bz in my whitelist, but Glitch remains stubbornly unavailable - and not just the game, I can't even see images in the encyclopedia. Disabling ClickToFlash in the preferences doesn't work - uninstalling seems to be the only way around it.

As it is, I have to remember to switch over to Firefox or Chrome whenever I want to use various bits of the Glitch website, which isn't exactly ideal.

  • Unfortunately, Glitch and ClickToFlash don't play nice together. In fact, they play together so poorly that even disabling ClickToFlash usually still causes problems. We're hoping there's a fix coming in the future, but nothing as of yet.

  • I use FlashBlock (I think it works similarly to ClickToFlash) and I have no issues with Glitch whatsoever, might solve your problem easily. (Just make sure you save/export your whitelist if you care that much).

  • I'm pretty sure I know what the answer will be, but I don't suppose there's any news on the ClickToFlash unhappiness? This is probably my single biggest peeve with the game right now...

  • Yeah, what thinko said.  I use FlashBlock as well.

  • In Safari?

  • No, dopiaza.  In Chrome.

  • I know, my question was largely rhetorical. I can already play Glitch quite happily in both Firefox and Chrome (indeed, that's the only way I can play it). I'd just like to actually play it in the browser I use as my main day-to-day browser.  (Even just being able to view pages like the encyclopedia would be a start...)

  • Sorry for this annoyance, but right now, fixing flash blocker problems is low on the priority list. I imagine we'll get to it at some point in the next couple of months.

  • Thanks eric. I understand that this isn't a top priority - it's just nice to know that I can hold out some hope for the future...

  • I have no problem using Safari. To clarify, there is a ClickToFlash plugin and a ClickToFlash extension. I'm using the extension and I added Glitch to the whitelist. Try using the extension instead of the (older) plugin.

  • I did try the extension a while back (I don't believe it's related to the plugin at all, other than by name), but it didn't work anywhere nearly as well as the plugin for me. I forget what the problems were now, but I wasn't at all happy with it. I uninstalled it and went back to the plugin. I've just taken another look and it appears to be being pretty actively developed, so perhaps its time to give it another try. Thanks for the reminder.

  • OK, the ClickToFlash extension has been taken over by a new developer and has had a major rewrite since I last tried it. I've uninstalled the plugin and I'm running the extension now, and so far it seems good. More importantly, I can view the encyclopedia, wardrobe and vanity. I'm looking forward to trying the game itself soon.

Thanks, Cherio, for prompting me to revisit the extension.

  • Hey, I'm running Glitch in Safari for the first time ever! Can I just say "Yay!"?

  • Bummed about this; I had tried the ClickToFlash extension a while ago and found Safari crashed a lot more often. I've been happily using the ClickToFlash plugin for a while and don't want to go back to crashing. Nor do I want to go without ClickToFlash (I'm fine to disable it while playing but uninstalling/reinstalling seems a little much).

I know full well how annoying issues like this are, and can fully understand why it would be a low priority for you to fix (if it's even within your control). It has, though, discouraged me from playing during this weekend's test.

Hopefully some combination of upgrades makes this less of an issue in the future.
