Herb Garden Yields?

I have Herbalism 2.

In 3 successive plantings, I have only gotten 1 herb per plot - no harvest bonuses.  So, I plant 12 seeds, reap 12 seeds, and repeat.  This is the same yield as I got before the skills, with the exception that I now have no failures on harvesting, sowing or watering.

The skill says, "Dedicated herbologists will appreciate Herbalism II, which further increases the likelihood of receiving little extras when harvesting, makes a triple-harvest more likely, and significantly increases the likelihood of shucking a double amount of seeds."


I am getting the little extras but triple harvests are extremely rare (in fact, I don't think I've gotten one in the 24 hours since I acquired the skill).  Getting a double amount from shucking is coming a little more frequently.  Is this by design or a bug?  It feels like I got far more harvest bonuses from veggies gardening than from herbs.  Given that herbs are not sold at vendors, it's a real chore to be able to get up enough seeds to start getting them out there to people.

  • I wonder if that is a bug, zee, because I have been getting double harvests and seeds, plus drinks/music blocks etc when I plant.  I saw a definite benefit from Herb 2, although I would frankly like to see it increase even more with more experience planting...

  • I just now received my super harvest - 2 extra sprigs.  That after about 5 plantings.

    And I'm not getting that much in the way of bonuses, a few loam here and there.  The bonuses dont concern me as much as the triple harvests do.

  • @zeeberk - i agree with you and have always appreciated your input and reflection on different issues.  once again i'm within an agreeable range of your point. but i also wonder, should everything here be easy? should we have some things that require diligence to produce? what if the item's importance is it's place in the ecosystem, rather than its high harvesting performance?  i know some game play runs on those numbers, but in order to have balance won't we have items that have different levels of payback performance also?

  • I agree that everything should not be easy.  I'm not asking for easy, I'm asking for fair.  If the devs say this is fair, cool, they know the long terms plan of the ecosystem, I don't.

    But I also know that new introductions need to be tweaked.  This may be what the devs want, it may be a bug.  I don't know which it is.  We know that the old veggie/pig/tree super harvest was bugged for a while and then they fixed it down.  For all I know, this is 'bugged' too conservative the other way based on the tree/pig/veggie harvest, so I'm just bringing it up for discussion and to see if others are also seeing as few herb super harvests as I am.

  • That seems like a bug. I've spent a lot of time in the gardens and I almost always get more than one flower per plot. And often get at least two seeds per shucked flower.

    Although there are times when you shuck a flower and get nothing. I like the challenge of that aspect, but I think you should definitely be able to get two flowers per plot at least. Especially for the couple that take so much effort to harvest.
