Quoin multiplier cards not working as they should?

I noticed after the switch my Quoin values had gone down, e.g. exp was 26ish, img now 13.

Then I was offered a Quoin mutlipier card. It said "Increase your quion multiplier by 50%". Yay!
So, although expensive (11k img) I bought it.

It didn't work. Boo!
That is to say, I still got the same img (13) per quoin. I looked at the values on my profile page and I'm pretty sure my quoin multiplier went from 10.5 to 11. That is it 0.5 was added to it - it did not increase by 50%. The result being? ZERO increase in quoin value. The upgrade on profile is described as 'Increase quoin multiplier by 0.5' which sort of reflects what happened but is not what the card said.

Thinking I may have mis-remembered my quoin/multiplier values I then bought another card. This time "Increase your quoin multiplier by 100%" (I was definitely paying attention this time, and this is the most expensive card I've bought at 24k). So, yay!

It didn't work... boo!
Similar thing happened. My quoin multiplier went from 11 to 12 and the quoin value for an img quoin increased by a whopping... er, 1 ... from 13 to 14. The upgrade in my profile is described as "Increase the quoin multiplier by 1".

Which is wrong? The card descriptions at the 'point of sale' or their resulting effects?

  • The Quoin Multiplier card misstates what its benefit is. For example, I just bought a Quoin Multiplier upgrade that stated it would increase my quoin multiplier by 100%. Before I bought it, my quoin multiplier was 16.2. Now it is 17.2. 100% of 16.2 is 16.2, not 1.00; according to what the card promised my new multiplier should be 32.4 not 17.2.

  • @dotcom I think (hope?!) it's more likely that the cards correctly state the benefits but they are not applied correctly. Otherwise the cost of these cards is surely way off from the resulting benefit.

If you think of it in terms of donation (assuming use of EHSP) I've just spent about 11600 meat (that's pet, pet, nibble, nibble well over 1000 pigs even with super harvests) in order to gain 1img per quoin. Doesn't seem to stack up?

  • It seems to me that the 100% increase is an increase to the BASE coin multiplier (which is one), not a 100% increase to your currently multiplier number. So like.. each increase is separate. If you have 2 100% increases to 1 applied individually and then added up, you get 3 (1 + 1 + 1), not 4 (1 * 2 * 2).

That's also backed up by the text on the upgrades page saying your multiplier has increased by .5 or 1, etc.

The way it's worded isn't technically WRONG, but it's certainly not very clear.

  • That makes sense greica!

Eeek - I might not have considered it worth spending 35k img on if I had realised...

  • Having said that, it does say "Increase *your* quoin multiplier by 50/100%" which seems fairly explicit to me?

  • The description on the Upgrade description on your profile ("Increase Quoin Multiplier By 1")  accurately describes what this pricey upgrade will do. The description on the Upgrade card, which is what you have to go by when making the decision to buy it or not, says "Increase Quoin Multiplyer by 100%."

If somebody promises to increase your money by 100% and then for the payoff just gives you a one-dollar bill, I think most people would feel somewhat disappointed.

  • They should change the % to a fixed amount to make it less confusing. The word "multiplier" makes it all confusing if you pair it with a percentage bonus.

"Increase your Quoin multiplier by 1"
    ----
Edit: Well, after a bit of research, the current phrasing is right. "An increase of Quoin multiplier by x%" is additive to the base bonus. If it was a multiplicative bonus, the wording would have been "an increase of 10% of the Quoin multiplier"

  • I too was seriously misled by this wording. It needs to be much clearer and more explicit. The benefit of a .2 increase... negligible and definitely not worth it for a higher level glitch.

If a bank used this kind of deceptive wording they'd be in big trouble!

  • Grelca hit the nail on the head. I was about to post something very similar but there is no need to now that I have seen its been covered well.

The coin multipliers definitely do work. I think mine is around 30X so all those normal coins that start out at 1 now give me around 30. I can't remember the exact numbers off the top of my head because of the mood penalties. Also regular img coins seem to start at like 1.2ish rather than 1.

  • Melting Sky - we know the coin multipliers work.  We're talking about the deceptive wording on the upgrade cards.

  • Part of the problem, as geekybird points out, is that the description says it increases YOUR multiplier, which is a changeable number, but the name of the upgrade is just "Increase Quoin Multiplier by X%," and what that percentage applies to is the base multiplier (which is always 1), not your own unique multiplier. So the description uses the word "multiplier" to mean your multiplier, while the title uses it to mean the base multiplier.

So while it's true that taking a percentage of the base multiplier of 1 and then adding that to one's unique multiplier does increase one's unique multiplier, it's confusing to have the two (very different) meanings of the word "multiplier" used in conjunction like this.

  • Thanks for the posts everyone, we are working through reports of both inconsistent messaging and buggy behavior with quoins and cards, and your feedback is great.

  • It would be helpful, since the base multiplier is ONE, just to give the actual increase, i.e.:

"Your quoin multiplier will increase from x to x+1."

"Percentage" language just obfuscates what's going on.

  • Yeah...I just bought the "increase your quoin multiplier by 20%" and my quoin payout is EXACTLY the same as it was.  wtf?

  • *facepalm* I just bought like 4 or 5 of the 100% upgrades and was so excited when I went out, grabbed a quoin and it was like 'You gained 22 energy, you dummy, why did you spend so much IMG for that?'

I hope it's really supposed to be 'your' multiplier.

  • I don't want to think about how many of these I bought in part because I didn't understand the card wording correctly and perhaps less than clear wording on the cards.  That said, it does help.  Not a rant, just a wish I'd slowed down a bit....

  • I would love to see the wording of these cards tweaked sooner than later as I'm sure others are also buying these up like hotcakes as well. At the moment they are very confusing and I just now spent 38,000i on "Add 100% To Your Quoin Multiplier". I checked the before and after and went from 18.2 to 19.2 instead of from 18.2 to 36.4 as I would have expected. Thanks to all the earlier posters who did some great explanations of the math involved here.

I really wish I had noticed that something wasn't right earlier -  I just looked back at my history and so far have managed to spend a whopping 263,600i on Quion Multuplier Upgrades!
