just wanted to pop back in here and clear up some things.
ghosts don't 'respawn'. if you dont find a ghost at a location that someone else found one at, it means this wasnt one of your locations.
there are ~30 - 40 locations total it seems. you are given a unique template of 7-10 to find. locations like chakra and the deeps/mines are being found more often because they have high numbers of locations. chakra has at least 6-7 that i can count, the mines/deeps have as many also.
there are also other locations like Groddle Forest, Kajuu, and Bortola that have just a few locations a piece as well, and most likely, you are going to have to travel to these locations to find one or two of your qualified 7. the quest was 'search the world...' meaning these locations are everywhere. the only major qualification is that it must be a *dark* location/background. chakra is easy to explain. as is the caves. but places like Bortola and Groddle Forest qualify because of streets that are heavily covered in trees.
i hope this helps those who are having trouble. i continue to try and find unmarked locations with the Faded Heart in hopes it will help the community at-large.
so basically you have to search 40 unknown largely random locations, and if you miss spotting the ghost because it is faint, you will have to backtrack, but you don't know how to backtrack because there is no list of locations to search.
while your theory accounts for the fact that some can't see the ghosts while others can, we had someone distinctly state that they saw a ghost spawn in a spot they had already found the ghost.
that was why i posted the update.
my theory on extremely long respawns was based on the fact that people had kept finding ghosts in the same spots. though, i wasn't convinced that they had respawn points, but rather respawned randomly.
so either the person who claimed to see the ghost spawn was lying, or your theory is incorrect. your theory seems to make the most sense to me because i have yet to see a ghost spawn. i also spent a great deal of time camping a respawn point. granted, i was only double checking it here and there, so there was possibility of someone getting it while i wasn't there.
I spent 7 hours today ghost hunting while at work, mostly in Chakra Phool, Shimla Mirch, and Ilmenskie, and I got nothing. I'm unimpressed; as Striatic says, this is more luck than anything else.
And to be fair, it seems like this would be a great quest if it were released along with others that were less luck-based; it's just really frustrating on its own.
I love the new ghost quest :) I spent some hours searching yesterday and found 6, but the seventh one is elusive...and while its kinda frustrating, I know once I find it I'll be wishing for more lol!
Right now we want to find all ghosts because its new, but after reset we will most likely find them as we go about our daily stuff.
well, i saw a ghost! then i remembered to post here, but forgot the ghost seeing other posts...
didn't clik on the ghost, simple forgot what i was doing and walked away... "ooh the ghost! please let it be there, let it be there!" i asked the giants! walked back a few streets, and yes! he was there! he said:"... please." was he jocking on me because i forgot him? ...
I'm giving up on actively pursuing the ghost quest, it's just way too hard. Even armed with a list of locations from the wiki and spots marked with notes by people, I've only found one ghost so far after running around for the past hour searching in known locations. It seems to be essentially random whether you find one or not - to succeed, you have to turn up at just the right spot at just the right moment. Either that or I'm missing something pretty fundamental here.
Without a location list, I think it would take me weeks, if not months of play to stumble across seven of them. Perhaps that's the intention here. There have, after all, been plenty of requests for longer-lasting quests...
Well, one thing that's nice about this quest is that it causes you to take a closer look at the backdrops in the dark areas, where you might not have noticed before. There is some really cool art out there!!
I asked for randomness and got it! Thank you. I think this is one of the most fun additions to the game. So what that it takes long to "finish". I am here for the long haul, and it gives me something to keep going back to. I absolutely love it!!!!
Whew! I finally finished. I enjoyed the quest, though became very frustrated at times, particularly when I would go to sites where others had seen a ghost and she wouldn't appear for me :( Gr-r-r-r
In the end I found 3 on my own *pats self on back* and 4 by visiting streets where others had spotted one *pats others on back*. Since streets are mentioned through this post and more posted in the wiki I hope folks don't mind if I list where I found mine.
SPOILER: Here's where I found mine in order:
1. Level 2 West
2. Perhoni Film
3. Hackfest
4. Nanduk Intention
5. Megna Barrow
6. Balcam Stacks
7. Lagan Lark
I was thinking about this quest today, and it reminded me of the long ago "epicness" thread during alpha. One of the things that was mentioned in that thread was the idea of long term quests that were quietly inserted into your regular routine/life in Glitch, things you would have to accomplish over time and in your travels, as opposed to getting thrown into your own personal Fellowship of the Ring sort of adventure at the get-go.
I think this quest fits that bill, it's just that coming as it does from the Rock, it's coming off more as a to-do listy kind of "get it done, get on with things" quest, which accounts for the hassle factor. Maybe rather than getting this quest from one's Rock, what if it came as a vision from a creature that came to visit you and was triggered at specific point for each player? I think the mystery of it would be enhanced that way. After the initial vision is done, the details could certainly appear in the quest Log, but it just doesn't have the same spooky and otherwordly flavah coming from my longtime nag and personal learning assistant. It's like getting a quest from Outlook, ya know?
Armed (thanks) with the list from the Wiki I started the task of visiting each street... In the end I found 2 in Groddle Forest, 1 in Bortola & the rest in Chakra Phool... Although I found the quest quiet hard to start with, once I had a rough idea of were to look & what I was looking for it became alittle easier.... It was still lots of fun running around & exploring and seeing lots of others doing the same!
I agree with Nanookie. Having a ghost appear out of the corner of one's eye for no reason is spooky lovely fun. Chasing 'em down because of the rock, less fun.
There's also, as Nanookie notes, a tone clash between the slangy punster rock and the sad eerie ghost.
Let the rock explain midway through, if the rock must explain at all; a more tonally-appropriate quest introduction (perhaps from Gwendolyn?) would be better.
Those of you leave notes, can you just put them say, near the street signs, instead of in the exact spot you find a ghost? It ruins the fun a little to just need to look for notes.
I've spent the last two hours looking round caves, deeps, woods & dingy alleyways and found absolutely nothing. Diddly squat. Not a fright in sight :(
This quest just seems really out of place with the rest - there is no guidance at all, no hints or clues, no go-here-and-talk-to-so-and-so, nothing. Its pretty darn hard to find something when you don't know what you're looking for!
Frustrating and disappointing; two things I'm not used to with Glitch :/
I found 5 ghosts today over three (or was it four) Glitch days and I didn't have to spend every second looking for it. I found 4 of them in Illmenskie Deeps and 1 in... oh poo I forgot. I hit all but 6 locations listed in the Quest page on glitch wiki. Hopefully my last ghost will show in one of those places or I'll have to go through Chakra Phool again. (bleh)
After finding six ghosts on my own, the seventh had me stumped for quite a while but thanks to the list I finally found my last one, and there wasn't a note there either which was cool - more a sense of achievement :)
After spending a few hours semi-successfully finding ghosts, (5/7) I can make this comment:
This is a terrible quest to get mid-game. If you got this quest at level 1, you'd probably eventually find the ghosts just by exploring. When it's your only quest, it becomes a chore.
I can definitely see this as a great quest to work on for a long time. It's just not a great quest for high level people that have seen the world. I can see this being really successful if it's an early quest on the relaunch. At the moment, I don't have a reason to go to a lot of places that ghosts might haunt.
I agree with Nanookie. Finding the ghosts shouldn't be a pop-up quest, at least not in the way that all the quests have been designed so far. You should come across a ghost randomly somewhere, click on it and it gives you a teeny bit of backstory and tells you there are more to seek out along the way in your regular travels (i.e. hinting that you shouldn't go looking for them all at once but as you go about your other business), and it'd have an ending eventually (or not perhaps!). It'd be like an evolved version of how the rocks and trees tell you stories over time.
Old Pea Head, I see your point. The only thing about offering it early on that worries me is that new players are very busy trying to earn money, get papers, keep mood elevated, etc...I think that while the wandering part might be built in at that stage, a backstory or depth quest might be just waaay to much to absorb at that point.
I wish in a sense that the ghost appearances were timed..so that you would know in advance that you couldn't trigger them just by showing up (although certainly that hasn't been the case for me, *cough* just two ghosts seen *cough*). If you really understood at the start that this was going to happen over time, and be really enfolded into your daily Glitchy life, it would feel less tedious because...well, because it wouldn't be work to do. It would just be an experience to anticipate.
It would be nice too if the streets that contained your ghosts could be meaningful to you for other later quests. You know, like seeing the ghost there opened up some kind of crack in the space-time continuum for you specifically and you would need to keep track of those places because later maybe they would be your portals to other, weirder places or times. I am a big fan of leaky space-time continuums...
ETA; yes, it IS very satisfying to type Old Pea Head.
+1 Oh, Nanookie! I think you are on to something! When the 7th ghost puts a heart in your inventory the only command is "remember" and it only activates when you go back to the same 7 locations where you found your ghosts. So it is very important to to keep track of where you found your ghosts. When activated the ghost appears and that's it, at least for now. Your idea of portals, space/time continuums is a fantastic idea.
yeeps...I had an 8 year old jabbering in my ear when the Rock gave me the quest...I confess I just ok, ok, ok'd right through the preamble. Did not realize we did have to keep track of our ghost streets...now I am glad I only found 2 so far!
And yeah...if the Rock is going to manage this for us, how about some better info?!
Rachel2635, that's not correct. The "Remember" verb on the Faded Heart is active on any street where a ghost could be found, whether or not that is one of the 7 streets on which you found your ghosts. While you're in the process of finding your 7 ghosts, you're the only one who's keeping track of which streets you've seen them on, but that's not really important in the long run (except so you don't search that street again).
Okay, last ghost was found in Xacut Cross, Salatu -- in a completely different zone than the ones I'd previously looked in. Many thanks to whoever added the location to the wiki.
If you're also stuck on ghosts, like I was, it might be worth a teleport to Salatu for a look-see. The location's currently well-marked with notes.
Glad that's done with! Agreed that this would've been a better experience if done alongside other questing and exploring -- as a dedicated effort, it was frustrating enough to send me scrambling for spoilers.
@ Eleanor: I stand corrected. I only tested the heart on streets where I found my ghosts and other miscellaneous streets, but not where other ghosts are located. I shouldn't have assumed that it only worked on my 7 streets. Thanks for clearing this up *hugs*
I was told that it is currently standard that you can't click on the ghost using only keyboard, that you have to use the mouse....
wondering if this will change since i'm trying not to use mouse :)
Well, that's a relief, thanks Eleanor Rigby! But now that it's not affecting me personally in the now..I still think you need to remember those streets so that they can figure in later in quests...later, other quests...
I've been down every street (had a printout of them) and am still missing one. I've even gone back for a second time. Can't find that last one! Waaaaaaaaaaahhhh. Am I broken too?
I was stuck on 6/7, 0/1 in beta... and I'm stuck in the same place now. I've pretty much given up on actively trying to fulfill the quest. If I just stay observant of the dark backgrounds, I assume i'll eventually git er done :)
Ahh emdot..Thanks .. I wont be doing that for a wee while to come yet..so I look forward to doing that..I didn't find any ghosts last time..but then I had got that quest almost just before reset. :) x
I just got the ghost quest..came here to say...and ..then saw your post Milolin...so ..maybe I just hit my 300 streets..I dunno..but ohhh... am happy I have the quest..I love ghosts lol :D
