The Animal Names War

So...what's the deal with all these animals (mainly chickens) name MB[###]?! Like MB872, or MB981. Is this some kind of animal harvesting/naming bot that someone has created? Is MB just some Glitch player's initials and they are for some crazy reason numbering all the animals? Is it something the developers are doing for some reason? Most of the time I find a chicken with the MB### name, but sometimes it will be following the original name. Like if the chicken was name Herman, it would be renamed "Herman  MB1293".

I rename these animals all the time, restoring their original names where possible or just giving new ones (it was the same for all of the "Zubes" chickens/"Legion for we are many" chickens/"Lorraine" piggies/"Mark Carlin" butterflies--sorry, guys). My curiosity and frustration is getting the better of me so I thought I should post about it. Perhaps the mystery can be solved!

  • If I were curious about the migratory patterns of piggies, I would follow this scheme too. I would then be able to track herd movements and establish foraging patterns in the population.

However, the Ur piggy is a non migratory species. It doesn't even need to worry about how to carry coconuts.

  • Wot? You mean grip it by the husk? Or maybe suspended via string from its little piggy tail?

  • I renamed all the pigs named Babe I could find, now I'm working on chickens named DeSantis and Cold Chef.

Naming lots of animals the same thing is a "pet" peeve of mine. ;)

  • I think I can figure out why Babe, but why DeSantis and Cold Chef?  Do tell the story. :)
Posted 9 months ago by Tibbi Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh, no no no...

I'm not the one naming them Babe, DeSantis or Cold Chef! I'm renaming all the animals that have those names!

And I have no idea who DeSantis is; I even asked several times on global chat. Google brings up an upscale men's tie store and a brand of gun holster. O.o
"Cold Chef" is apparently a catering service. So both names appear to be lame product placements!

  • @Dr.MaudGonne: OOOOOOOOH that DeSantis! *shaking fist* I've been renaming those too! I haven't seen any Cold Chef animals but I stick to the same part of the map most of the time. I think me and my cronies have wiped out most of the Lorraine piggies, finally. Lorraine is a player in the game, so I assume the piggies were named after her.

Btw, I'm so happy you Googled those terms and then posted about them.

  • I like subtly changing them. I think my favourite renaming scheme was for Pepper Rose -imals: Pick a spice and a flower, and away you go =) Cardamom Lily, Pimento Violet, etc. DeSantis I usually am pretty slack with, and go with ReSantis, InSantis, etc. Or 'DeSantis is narcissistic'.

I think anything that appears to have been a lazy person naming every animal on a street after themselves (whether or not they released them) is fair game for renaming. Makes it difficult if you habitually nibble/milk/squeeze every animal on the street when there's 18 DeSantis-labelled animals around.

  • A few months back, I asked the exact same question about pigs named "d", "ddd" and some name I forgot.

I did get answers about the "d" (basically being "by accident", if you control your movements by key), but never got any answer about the back then wide spread first name. I guess it will be the same here: If there is a logical explanation to it, people might answer. If it is just about "being funny" or being destructive, the "culprits" will probably not answer, because they don't care.

  • I like to change them as well, although I don't mind the joke of the numerous 'Legion for we are many" chickens.  I also like the renaming jokes of some, such as GONZO the de ja vu, GONZO the repetitious, Gonzo the same etc.

However, the repetitive naming or just lack of thought, as in asdgf, or ddd, or just any initial, bugs me as we are in a game that has a theme of imagination.  As a part of that T.S has asked players to include their own creativity and imagination into the naming of the animals, so I think we are kind of letting ourselves down by just naming them asdf, dd, etc.

  • The MB thing would seem to be an attempt at naming the piggies after stars or other space objects, an bit nerdy maybe, but nothing scary lol!

  • When it's something intelligible that could be a username it might make more sense to try the friend finder in glitch before trying google. When it's a bunch of random letters usually someone's just rushing through and renamed by accident, and typed whatever they could to get out of rename as quickly as possible.

A lot of times if it's a bunch of animals named the same thing someone was doing this intentionally as a fun prank to play. You can feel free to rename them since anyone can do this anytime, but I wouldn't recommend getting aggravated about what other players name animals. When all animals in a region share the same name someone went to a LOT of effort to do that for fun and, in the spirit of fun, you can either leave em all or make a mission for yourself to name them all something unique :). Missions are always a good time.

  • I've seen most all these names also. Seems wacked re: the MBxxxx, as I'm assuming the namer has to keep track of the number sequence. And maybe even more wacked that peeps. feel the necessity to rename these animals. LoL

    Great fun, eh?

Reminds me of one of the books I'm reading - The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss.

Since this thread I've been noticing more names of animals. Good times.

  • The reason sooo many chickens are named Zubes is simple, Zubes is a simply delightful glitch in UR, and due to the delightful natural attraction her awesome self in person creates, many of us love to give and send her hugs. This hugging cannot be performed if she is not online and in an effort to quench the appetite to hug Zubes,..... we name any, and as many, if not all chickens we see Zubes so if we cant give her a hug,.....O.O,......we can still SQUEEZE!! Simple

  • ColdChef has a posse!

  • Baldiboo, why not go with "I love Zubes," "Zubes is teh greatest," "Zubes Stand-In," "Placebo Zubes," and so on?  I can think of 8 more off the top of my head.  Then that satisfies those who want to be able to tell chickens apart, and also your desire to flatter or compliment a fine example of glitchenhood.  Instead, by naming them all Zubes, you actually prejudice people against Zubes who have never met hir.

  • Agreed, Scarlett.
Case in point: I'm already prejudiced against ColdChef because I'm sick of seeing his/her name. ColdChef might be a perfectly nice Glitch... but I'm still going to rename all those chickens.

  • I confess to using Glitch as an escape from afk politics. As such, when I see politically named animals, no matter who they are named for, They are rechristened with the silliest monikers I can produce on the spot.

I mean, forget Dude2012 or OtherDude2012 when you could have Monkeylarva, Parsley Absolution, or Dream Bacon!

  • I name all my pigs after my favorite pork products. So, Bologna, Mortadella, Salame, (Salumi, too), and so on.
But I rarely rename "wild" pigs, unless they have offensive names.
I was renaming pigs I sold at auction, just for giggles, but I'm so lazy these days I rarely make the effort.

  • Cold Chef seems to hang out the same places I do, as I keep seeing his names.

My favourite was when my street was filled with animals named after Doctor Who characters. That one was a laugh.

  • The swamp is filled with piggies named STEVE.  I'm thinking of renaming them Parchment.
Posted 9 months ago by The Missing Finger Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I'm the same, CTP. The piggies at my houses are named like "bacon" "ham hock" "bbq ribs" and such xD

I will rename piggies (since I rarely squeeze wild chickens or milk wild butterflies) if they all have the same name so that it's easier to harvest them. Other than that, I don't really mind what they are named and mostly don't rename unless I'm incredibly bored xD

  • Hello

I am doing a project on glitch, and I was really interested in what people are doing with the animal names war. Can someone please explain this to me in depth. How can glitchens name animals? Do you have to be a certain level to name an animal?

    Thanks

I name every pig I see (if I'm not lazy) with fudge in it "fudge wudge" or "fudge that" and also name them from lyrics to a song.
