Upgrading Furniture

I noticed in the post regarding furniture and furniture upgrades they make mention of upgrading for credits. Are these the same credits we were given at the beginning of the game? The ones we can't get more of unless we buy them? Or is this a credit we earn in the game like img? I hope it's the later, I can't really afford to pay for upgrades to the game :(

  • Those are the only credits there are.

Some things will require them, but there will be options that don't. The options will be much like the wardrobe.

  • Stylegeist: there will be four types of furniture upgrades
        - Free upgrades
        - Upgrades bought with credits
        - Free subscriber-only upgrades
        - Subscriber-only upgrades bought with credits

TS has said that there will be plenty of free upgrades, so even if you choose not to by a sub or a credit pack, you should have lots of options :)

ETA: Another thing to note is that if you spent your free 100 credits on clothing, but decide that you don't want some of that clothing any more, you can "recycle" it to get a portion of the credits back, and spend those on some credit-bought upgrades!

  • I'm really disappointed that there aren't more free upgrades for the houses, particularly for the wallpapers. Almost everything you need to use credits for. I liked my old house better :-\ Did we even get anything for our houses when we were kicked out of them? I really like the idea of designing your own glitch house, but you're pretty limited if you don't spend real money in the game. I agree with Stylegeist :-(

  • Arsenink, you were refunded the full amount of currants you paid for your old house.

  • A game of this scale requires a large amount of money to stay afloat. Server costs, staff wages, advertising and various other stuff. I'm amazed at the amount of free stuff there is available considering that.

  • @Arsenink:

You got a full currant refund for your old house, more than you would have gotten had you sold it.
You didn't have any wallpaper or furniture options in your old house.
You didn't have SDBs for your hoards.
You didn't have as broad a range of resources for your backyard.
You didn't have a front yard.
There are plenty of free upgrades now.
There is even a contest going on for the range and variety of options that are open to you in your new homes without paying a single red cent.

So. All I can say is, real sorry you don't like the changes.
But you have more now than you did then.

Too bad you are still unhappy.

  • Stylegeist, I know it can be frustating when you first see it, I was, but there are many people that are selling upgraded furniture now for a reasonable price for us that can't buy them with credits.

You should check out on the marketplace forum, and if you give the basic furniture to them to upgrade for you, you even gain a discount. [Instead of them having to make the basic furniture first+upgrading it] So there is still hope for it.

I bought a lot of upgraded furniture with most of the sellers and I garantee you is worth it.

The only sad thing is we can't buy wallpaper with currants from someone else, and the free options for that are really super limited. :( But as for the few free options for furniture most of them are pretty cute!

  • It should also be mentioned that, as time goes on, the devs have said they're going to roll out even more furniture/wallpaper/flooring/etc. options, some of which will be free for all.  The selection is limited right now because they just released the thing--give it some time, and I think you'll come to like the choices you have more than the old housing. :)

  • The devs can say whatever they want. You'd think we'd get more free options for clothing too, but that hasn't happened.

"There are plenty of free upgrades now."

"Plenty" if you think two options per piece of furniture is plenty, when there are at least 10 options that cost credits and thus actual cash.

Thank god for the players finding a work-around by being able to sell off already customized items, or there really would be a ton of players with very similar housing.
Love the game, love that I can play it for free, but it hurts a bit that so few options are available for free to customize one's home and appearance.

  • Maestro Mateo, players selling each other upgraded items isn't a work around. It's something the devs planned for.

  • ... actually, every single time a new batch of clothing has been released, there have been new free items as well. Every time. Granted, we haven't had any new clothing releases in a while, but that's probably because they've been a bit occupied with other things.

So, yes, the devs have periodically given us more free clothing options. I see no reason not to believe the same won't be true of furniture upgrades.

  • what Booradley said - playing this game is free, but *running* this game takes money. So yeah, a lot of cosmetic upgrades cost small amounts of actual money, because the game needs to come up with funds somehow. None of the customizing options affect the things you can do in the game, just the way things look. You can still play the entire game without paying a cent. Honestly? That's a pretty good deal.

A copper subscription is $9.00 a month.  That's one six pack of premium beer.  a MONTH.

  • I have to agree with WalruZ on this one :) Depending on how often you play the subscriptions are really a bargain. A regular gamer, buying cool new console games as they come out will often pay 60 dollars for a game with between 10-60 hours of gameplay. I can pay around 108 dollars for a year subscription. I've played over 700 hours of glitch ;) Seems very fair.

And it must be said that you really don't need to pay at all. There are some very acceptable, if bland, set ups that can be created for free. You just need a creative mind, some pretty in game items and a little elbow grease ;)

  • Another point worth making: stoot has said from the very beginning that there will NEVER be advertising in Glitch (other than maybe players being able to advertise their in-game markets). I'm sure TS good rake in a bundle by accepting commercial ads in-game, and maybe some players would accept this if it meant more free options. But I'm confident the vast majority of Glitchen share my feeling that one of the real pleasures of Glitch is the total absence of the commercial RW, and most of us who can afford to subscribe are happy to pay to keep Ur free of such crap.

In the same vein I would add, however, that I subscribe because Glitch is so worth my support, not because I can get extra goodies. I sympathise with non-subscribers who would like a few more options, and I want TS to know they can up the number of freebies without fear of losing my financial contribution!

  • You can have a nice looking house with just the free upgrades. Also, you don't need credits to get upgraded furniture by trading with other players. It's amazing, really, that you can play this game absolutely for free, and the only things that you can't get without credits are fancy clothes and wallpaper/floor/ceiling swatches, and since you get 100 free credits, you can even get some of those.
