Glitch Academy – Grand Opening

Tired of your glitches not learning anything while you are away? Enroll them in Glitch Academy today!

Glitch Academy allows you to register a schedule of classes for your glitch to take. When your glitch is done learning one skill, it is automatically enrolled into the next one even if you are away from your computer!

You can choose to receive report cards about your glitch's progress. Every time they are enrolled in a new class (start learning a new skill), you will be sent an email.

No scripts and no installation necessary.

Stop waking up at 4 a.m. to learn your next skill! Enroll today!

And for those of you wondering more about the technical aspects of Glitch Academy, view my post over at the Developers Forum.

  • shexycorin/BarryW, why do you think this was fixed? Maybe we're not talking about the same thing?
If I'm learning 15 skills to the last minute, and then finish learning 10 of them - it will increase my learning speed for all the skills I haven't finished yet those 5 skills I started learning will still have very short times.

  • Hi @Ayzad, I am sorry for your troubles.

Have you enabled report cards to verify the Academy made the change? Do you have any greasemonkey queue scripts installed on your browser?

Fortunately, no one else has reported a similar problem. Last night, a basic statistics module was implemented. If you have any other issues with skill switching, please let me know and I can verify them using this new data. Peace.

  • Code Dev - just curious how many people have enrolled?

I am having absolutely no problems with the notifications or the skill queueing - to me this is an excellent API offerring. Thanks again.

  • Hey @Kookaburra,

Thank you for the kind words. As of right now, we are just over 900 enrolled students.

  • Yeah, this is amazing. Great work, Code Dev.

Now... here's the part of the comment where I make hopefully constructive and not-at-all ungrateful-sounding feature requests! Would it be possible to show learning time for each skill? That's a big part of how I (and I'm sure some others) make decisions about skill learning order.

Anyway, thanks for this great tool. Well designed site, too.

  • It logged me out, not sure why. Going to play it safe and leave my window open for now.

  • I've been using this for several skills now and it works great...especially as I prefer using Firefox (no Greasemonkey for me)! Thank you so much for making this. :)

  • @Nevet: The change I refer to is that the penalty for learning new skills kicks in when you start to learn a skill (previously it was when you finished learning a skill). I've seen my learning time for remaining skills increase when I start a skill and no change when the skill learning completes. You may not notice it much on skills that only have a few minutes / seconds left as I believe the increase is a percentage of the time remaining.

  • Hey @Laerwen,

I'm glad you enjoy the Academy! You're enrollment was actually a special one. Check your mail!

  • @Code Dev Wow!! That was incredibly kind of you! Thank you so much, I will use your gift well! I just bought a house, so I definitely was in need! Really, I am floored - I can't say thank you enough.

I've mentioned the Academy to my friends here and they think it's great. I think you've created a very useful tool and I hope everyone uses it! :D Thanks so much again! <3

  • @BarryW thanks for the clarification!

  • I'm using it right now and it been great so far. Easy to set up (which to say there's really nothing to it except pick your classes) and easy to use. Though I do have a question: is there an opt-out option, like if I no longer want to be enrolled in the academy can I just have all my information gone?

  • I have been using glitch academy for over a week, and it is very useful.  I've noticed when I speed up a skill to its max using favor, the academy enrolls me in the next skill before the first has a chance to completely finish.

It has only happened twice so far and I just started an 18 hour skill and have reduced it as much as possible so I will let you know if it happens again.

  • I noticed that too:  I was learning one skill, had speeded it up, and the academy enrolled me in the next skill.  The problem is that the skill I was learning was a multi-day skill and I'm now stuck without being able to speed it up any more.

  • Hi Bajuba and Windborn,

Can you post the exact times and the skills this happened with?

There were 2 earlier reports of this happening, which prompted a handful of extra checks to prevent this. Please read the post here about the changes made. Since then, all enrollments are logged and the responses from the Glitch servers are stored.

In short, the Academy now asks the Glitch servers twice to see if you are learning anything before enrolling you in a new skill and stores the answers it gets from the Glitch servers. If we are receiving incorrect responses, I can contact the Glitch developers.

Thank you and I'm sorry to hear about your class jumps. Peace.

  • Hi @Aer, if you ever want to fully un-scribe from a third-party Glitch App, the best thing to do is go to your account page and click the link in the line: "View the applications you have authorized for use with Glitch's API." You will be taken to a page that shows you all of the Apps you have subscribed to and from there you can view App details or remove the access granted.

Hey @Rock Opera Jr, I think that's a great idea. I'll put it on the features to add list.

  • Code Dev,

Wasn't paying enough attention to give you exact time, but it was sometime since Sunday.

I may have contributed to the problem by
    a) being enrolled in a skill through your site
    b) pausing that skill in-game
    c) learning another skill
    d) unpausing enrolled skill
    e) speeding up enrolled skill  (which may not have been an enrolled skill at this point)

Again, I figured I had done something stupid so I'm not even sure your code is the problem.

  • No worries then, Windborn. But if anything happens like this again, please let me know right away and I'll look into it. Peace.

  • This is an excellent creation! Thank you so much! I haven't been able to play at all and suddenly realized I hadn't been learning skills for over a week. Glitch Academy changes everything!
