Test open! 15 June, new stuff!

Heya!

Thanks for hanging with us while we had to cancel our plan to start yesterday, but now that we're open- what's new?

Music! We now have some background music in the game to enchant you while playing. You can turn the volume down if you would rather, of course.

Staff badges in chat! If you ever wondered how to separate who is an official Tiny Specker, wonder no more! There are now staff indicators in the chat window.

Conversations- Things talk to you in game that didn't before! Yes, you'll sometimes be accosted by animals or rocks or trees- talk to one next time you see them hail you!

You can now start a direct IM to another player without having to walk all the way over to them, in case you were worried about invading someone's space. Click on someone in the game, and the menu will appear ;)

Help cases! You know when you click the bug report icon and send us a help case? There is now a little link to send you to your existing help cases to update one you already sent us. A lot of folks will open new cases to update ones they already told us about, and it makes it hard to field all of them fast. So if you still have a problem on something, update the existing case!

Not specifically new to the game, but we are plugging away at getting more folks to install the Flash debug player while you beta test Glitch. The extra technical information that the player includes will help our developers pinpoint problems better, and we all want that, right? :)  Instructions can be found here. If you have feedback for it, please followup in this Forum topic.

  • the music is dreadful - sorry I dont like it at all, I hear the same few bars over and over. I dont want to have to turn off all the sounds tho.

ETA Okay found I can turn the volume down on so-called music and keep sound effect.

  • I'm not so sure about the music....is there an option to turn it off? I like to have my sound on but I don't like this music.

  • omg, music!...............................................  :(
Sorry, I don't like it. The first thing I do in a game is turn off the gawd-awful music.

  • I agree, there needs to be separate controls for turning off music but not sound effects.
Posted 18 months ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I thought there were separate controls for those two? Did that change? Or was I always just imagining it?
Posted 18 months ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • there is I just hadnt seen it
Posted 18 months ago by Teena Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Have to come back and say I LIKE the music - the subtle variations to keep it from becoming stale are nice, while not being intrusive.

Would love it if there was different music in different themed areas though, just because at the moment the ambiance is kind of samey everywhere!
Posted 18 months ago by Saro Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Wow- that music..don't like the repeating sound over and over. Turned it off ;-)
Posted 18 months ago by Atlantis Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I like the music, but am looking forward to hearing different music in different areas... it's getting old. Also, it's a bit problematic interfacing with other game noises... it seems to go off and on between using my orb, squeezing a chicken, that kind of thing.

  • Thanks for the Music!  Also, I have had some good laughs talking to animals and trees so thanks for that too!

  • Thank you for the change to the auctions for teleport scripts! <3  It's lovely to be able to post to more than one location, and have people know what they're buying.

  • I like everything so far! And thanks, kevbob, for the bug updates reminder. Since I am one of your main offenders (blush), I will remember to use this method from now on! (but admit it... you thrive on hearing from me, right?!) ;]

  • I love how the animals & trees are talking to us, really cool! Staff badges are a good idea.
Posted 18 months ago by Teena Subscriber! | Permalink
  • More music is definitely needed (no matter how much I love it now!) if only to prevent repetition after hours and hours in game (themed music would also be a good idea).  Love its unintrusive, calming nature — no matter what you do, make sure to keep it that way!

Also hope we can get a few more Alakol Large Houses on the market...there's certainly a demand for them, that's for sure.
Posted 18 months ago by Jannisary Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Loving the ambient Music, Danny you're a real star :D To think you played all but one of the instruments, how cool is that and I will definitely be there the day you get to jam in game

I also love the music for meditation, not the churchy one but the other one that starts with the piano sigh just melts every time I hear it, any chance of a download?

ETA Wow teleports scripts are on you when we complete a project phase, now we get to go when its convenient that is so awesome - thank you

  • Would be nice if other game music (wheels in particular) were in the same key as the background... I don't think bitonality suits glitch.
Posted 18 months ago by Saro Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Hey, just wanted to let devs know I miss the little sigh trees give when you petted them.

The music kinda reminds me of the H2G2 theme (which is a good thing).

  • I like the music quite a bit, and I'm sure there'll be more to come in the future for different areas to complement them. At home, perhaps you could have a radio (perhaps stocked up with music blocks) that plays what you tune it to? But we have to expect it to take time for new tunes to get written and recorded.

Maybe the tune could, though this would perhaps require taking it from a single track and turning into more of a procedural piece, reflect how busy you're being, or your mood?

I also like the conversations with things- fills in a lot of the history and culture of Ur.

  • Don't mind the talking pigs and trees but they have a little too much to say. Maybe before the fourth talk bubble (that's always really long) you can ask me to hear more or let me bail. I'd like to cut it short sometimes. Everything else is pretty cool so far

  • Is there not unique music to different areas of the game? That's a shame...

  • I'm confused by the teleport tokens as well. I'm in the midst of learning Teleport 4, and I have 30 tokens, but I can't figure out how to use my tokens. Do I click on them? Is there some magic juju I'm missing?

  • # 4 down = me likey

It's all great, especially #4! While I like the IDEA of music, I just do not think this music suits me, personally.

  • Like the new option for teleport scripts at the end of a project. Haven't tried to use one yet, but pretty nifty, and a nice surprise.

Not a fan of the music selection - sounds too much like the music from the game Rango: The World - and that music grates on my last nerve. For now I turned it off. Would be nice if different regions at least had different tunes, and if I could select the type of tune playing in my house...sort of like mood music for me and my friends who visit.

Other than trying to slow me down in game play and provide some filler storyline to the game, not sure the purpose of the talking trees, animals, rocks, etc. Yea, the additional story line info is somewhat interesting, but I have no incentive to waste precious playing time to listen to their long monologues. Shame, because it seems like a lot of work went into them. Even if it was a minimal mood boost, or xp boost, or energy boost depending on who I listened to (and when I say minimal I mean like 1 or 2 max), then I might be more inclined to spend time reading through all their stories. Is there a 'good listener' badge or something that we should be striving for with this new element? Maybe once we go 24/7, and I've accomplished all my quests and am at a level that I feel like I can take a 'breather' or just want something else to do in game to entertain myself, maybe then I'll be inclined to spend time to listen...right now I'm on too many missions to slow down.

Like the new staff badges, and get excited now when I see that I'm on the same street as one of the TS VIPS.

Love love love that we don't end up in another player's personal space to be able to IM, gift or just check their info. Especially when we jump into a street, there is no link to their profile information, so I have to click on the person. Nice that I'm not the uber creepy lurker/stalker person anymore.

Overall good update! Thanks for the improvements!

  • All of the updates are great. :) Being able to talk to the surroundings is nice. It is much more interesting. And since this game is going to be around for a long time who needs to be in a hurry? We don't have to talk to everything that has something to tell us. :) The music is nice but monotonous. I had to turn the sound off fast...Monotony  is not usually a good thing. But overall....GREAT work guys!!

  • The music is very hypnotic - I wonder if they have subliminal messages programmed into it?!  chants *all praise stoot.....all praise stoot*

  • Some of the best additions to the game yet! The talking critters had me hanging on every word. I absolutely adored their stories! It made me very happy... The music was cool at first but got old really fast--as others have said, variety would be wonderful, but I'm sure that's in the works. The game was crashing somewhat often (just like in the previous couple of tests), but many little bugs and annoyances from before had been fixed (and small improvements made in various places), and getting teleport scripts at projects is a definite plus. Thanks for all the wonderful hard work! This test has made me even more excited about Glitch, and I look forward to what's in store for the future!

  • When you play the music backwards, it says, "Hail kevbob."
And also, "All ur shrines are belong to Pot."
Posted 18 months ago by Lelu Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Love the scripts, they look like a Victorian scroll. The music..hmmm, yep, those who have played Rango will know. The talking critters/trees ect was fun at first, then it got repetitive. Crashing and lag this test was the worst I have encountered. New streets in Bortola are stunning, love the subway and new housing. Wardrobe is fantastic, love the new additions. Love how the world is growing and expanding.

  • The new random dialogues from the rocks and chickens keep me entertained especially in the gloomy mines. Thanks for all the new additions Tiny Speck :)

  • OMG!!! Still LMAO at the sight of my little glitchy person right before she got teleported home!!! With her eyes bugging out and her head jerking backwards while it looked like she'd gotten snatched away by her waist!! Too, too funny!!

And have our little glitchy  people always blinked? Just noticed that this test and love it!!

Love the staff badges! Really cool!!

And TYSVM for fixing that error that was always popping up when I'd be working in my garden.
Was really nice not to have to worry about it!!

The talking trees and critters were cute...at first...and then got a bit irritating - until I gave them a good cussing and threatened them all with the chopping block...then they chilled out and stopped calling out to me so much :D
But I did enjoy the stories when it finally settled down and I chose to read them (without them harassing me)

Sorry...but I still dislike the frogs being involved with the auction - I don't mind going around harvesting what I need to, to be able to start playing the game the way that's fun for me, as long as it feels like that time has been productive.  But it's really irritating when you've harvested everything you can for the game day (because some kind soul(s) has/have decided that all trees should be turned into bean trees or big gaping holes) and so you have to sit and wait for the toad or the new day (feels like the new day is usually faster!) to get what you need to continue playing. Kinda takes the fun bar down a half of dozen notches. :(

But it was a very fun test (up until the last half of today's test) and I really enjoyed the new music and other things!!

    Awesome Job!!

ETA: and I really, really love all of the wardrobe and vanity items!! I'm constantly playing around in them which is something that I usually wouldn't do in most games!!

  • I love roots music but this seemed to be on a very short loop and quickly became irritating.

I love that we can teleport to a new area when we want to. (end of project teleport scripts)

I may enjoy the stories the trees/animals/rocks etc have to tell when the game is live.  Now it quickly became irritating.  Especially when all the animals are screaming out "talk to me Marla" "I've got something to tell you Marla".

I was surprised that lag seemed worse than the last test (over a weekend).  I was also surprised at the number of Flash crashes.  That hasn;t happened before.
Posted 18 months ago by Marla Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Nope sorry don't like the music,it reminds me of Supermarket background music, which thankfully we don't have much of anymore,it irritated the hell out of me,(or was that cos i had to do the grocery shopping?)....oh well turned it off..:)
Posted 18 months ago by Joos Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Were new fancy effects added this test when switching between areas on the map? I don't remember seeing them before, and they were very obvious this time because they frequently caused lag. It would typically take several seconds to load a new map area, when it used to be almost instantaneous. Not worth it in my opinion.
Posted 18 months ago by Shepherdmoon Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Two things irritate me the most ,One I can shut off the music I play my own while in game.Number two is so bloody annoying, the talking rocks ,if your in mining as much as I am they are a pain in the arse. Also bloody chickens at your rock bugging you.The chickens at least you can squeeze to get lost, but the every rock calling your name to come listen is just aweful and sometimes you accidently click the stupid" talk too me " part instead of Mine,Hate it Hate it Hate it.
Posted 18 months ago by Jellybelly Baby Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Had a lot of lag and flash crash time on the first day; second day much better. Don't think much of the music --too much of a sameness and doesn't fit the varied landscapes. No sighs from the trees when you pet them? Why ever not?? (Hoping maybe it was just that I had the sound effects off.) LOVE that you can now IM, hug, give--whatever--without getting too up close and personal. That felt a little creepy!
Posted 18 months ago by ElleD Subscriber! | Permalink
  • The new music is just that new and this was a try out for this test, it would therefore be reasonable to believe more will come. To my way of thinking it seems rather premature to criticise now, without recognising all the hard work that went into producing a music score for Glitch

You are entitled to your opinions but when you realise this is just the first and not the entire thing, then perhaps you will see the magic that is this new addition is.
Posted 18 months ago by Faereluth Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I like the trees telling you stuff like secrets!
Posted 18 months ago by Hizzie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Shepherdmoon, re "Were new fancy effects added this test when switching between areas on the map?" — Nope, nothing new there. There are a lot of factors that go into how long it takes a street to load and render (the complexity of the location is the biggest factor and that varies from street to street), but we are always working on making it faster (and definitely wouldn't want to add gratuitous effects which would slow it down).
Posted 18 months ago by stoot barfield Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks for your response, stoot. But I wasn't talking about loading a new street--I was just talking about looking at the global map and clicking on "Alakol", for instance, to see what streets are there... when switching to that new area on the map, I noticed entrance effects like fade-ins and sliding in from one side, which I didn't remember seeing before. I assumed this was the cause of the lag I experienced, where there would be a white screen on the map for a few seconds before the map of "Alakol" (for instance) would finally pop up. I never experienced that lag before this test...
