Who like to meditate?

I like the idea of meditation.  Who got that idea in the game?  Focus on energy and mood.  I tried meditation in real life and I found it useful for me.  Did anyone ever try the meditation?  Just to focus on MOOD.  I don't quite sure about meditation could also help you gain energy in real life.  What do you guys think?

  • Meditation is as necessary as breathing for a happy life.

  • It's a great idea. Most of the higher level players, especially those of use involved in street projects, use it a lot. Quite essential in fact.

  • I cannot tell you how many meditation orbs I have donated by mistake....They look alot like a diamond when you are rushing to donate at a shrine...

  • JuJus like to pinch meditation orbs, I have had mine taken twice now . . . o.O, perhaps one of the Giants has lost their marbles?

I like to meditate in game, I use it a lot to restore mood and energy, I like to radiate when working on street projects as I like to think it helps everyone working on the project :)

I'd like to see levitation improoved so we could move L or R for when our levitates are a little off target.

  • In game I rarely use meditation. I've used it to complete quests, and that's pretty much it.
My in game daily routine is pretty much non stop harvesting and that doesn't really affect my mood all that much, on the occasions it does (mainly when I've gone AFK for longer than I expect), I just attempt to use up some of the exotic juices and cosmapolitans that the trees keep throwing at me. With energy, I just use up my stacks of meat from my collectors.
    IRL I don't meditate, I just...am.

  • I've tried meditation IRL, but I'm far too likely to fall asleep. Bad meditator, excellent napper.

  • @Sheepy...if you are that relaxed in RL you don't need to meditate...You must have all your ducks in a row.

  • I tend to fall asleep while doing sitting meditation, too. Instead I do mindful movement (yoga, mindful walking) and use mindful practices throughout the day. A good read on mindfulness is "Full Catastrophe Living".

  • I don't have a problem with left or right with levitation, but I agree with Fae; it should be improved and last a little longer.  Seemed to me that it was shorter this last test!  However, gotta love the Lev! :-)  It's mostly why I did the Meditation Skills!

  • I sometimes fell asleep during my meditation but most of the time, I like the feeling after meditation.   I was surprised to see the meditation skills in the game.  I feel like it would last a little longer so that players can meditate together with our avatars.

  • I really like meditation in Glitch! It's a nice pause in the compulsive busyness that can take over as we work toward goals. I love the little textual prompts, "people are not so strange afterall". The music is perfect, the pause a perfect reminder to enjoy being here now.

  • @napabeth: Hardly! I'm just a good napper. Falling asleep at night is entirely different.

  • meditation is not an essential skill. it is useful during projects since you can meditate while performing actions, but it replenishes energy less quickly than it is expended and is only a supplemental energy source.

meditation is a good skill, mostly for bridging energy and mood gaps and compensating for the little mistakes we all make in how much food and drink we want to be carrying around.

if you are confident in your ability to manage food inventory [personally i am not] and if you aren't interested in the skills that meditation is a pre-requisite to, you shouldn't regret skipping meditation on your skill list.

  • Yeah, I don't meditate much, striatic. I do on occasion for the gaps, as you say. But I love the levitation skill, so I am very glad I didn't skip the prereqs! Levitation conga....woooooo!

  • I love to do radiation in groups, like at projects (especially when I manage a Max Relax)... it's like a mini Random Kindness for a whole lot of folks simultaneously. And I love the meditation skill tree... it looks like it's going to come in REALLY handy soon!

  •  I plan to skip most of the meditation skills at reset, only did them this round to do the quests - I will get MA1 to get the teleportation skills, but other than, I've not found them overly useful.  My orb stays in my cabinet at home...probably for the reason that striatic says...have mastered getting energy from food and mood from drinks...not useful enough to me to bother with...Oh, and I pray in RL, much better than meditation, IMO.  But to each his own...

  • But b3achy, prayer IS one of the myriad forms of meditation, isn't it?

There are real, measurable changes to the brain that are similar during both prayer and meditation (check out this book review). The cool thing is that these brain-boosting benefits are available to everybody, not just trained monks and nuns but average Joes as well, even atheists... it's not what you call the practice, but the methods that make it work so well.

I'm glad to see meditation in the game. I hope it helps others think about starting their own introspective practice, whatever they decide to label it!
