How do you play?

What's your "goal" in Glitch, or what's your play style like? Is your Glitch a direct extension of yourself, or do you roleplay a character? If I gave you a million currants right now, what would you do with it?

Me, my goals are:
-Collect all the cubimals (and as many squids as I can!) and maybe dolls
-Cook lots of food, throw parties, run around throwing ridiculously expensive items at people at random through Ur.

  • My goal is to enjoy myself.
    So far, so good.

I play according to my mood. Some days I feel like earning as many currants as possible or find a 'must have' item that I'm aiming for. Other days (and these days are more frequent) I have no particular aim in game, just chatting to friends and going where my glitch takes me.

I don't really do the whole roleplaying thing. But I don't really see my glitch as an extension of myself. I just see him as a game character.
If you gave me a million currants right now, I'd pretend to myself that I was going to save it, but as soon as I passed a toy vendor I'd spend the lot on cubimal boxes :D ...I have one of each type, but I can't seem to stay away from those boxes >.<

I wouldn't mind getting the 2 dolls I'm missing and of course an elusive SB-1 (lol), but I'm not in a rush.

  • Me? I just putz around doing this and doing that. Depends on my mood that day. I have one cubimal and that is the piggie one. Will I collect more? Maybe someday, they are so expensive so I don't bother right now. Don't have any dolls, hope to someday. I think the one thing I would love to have is a GNG musicblock. Don't see that happening in the near future though since it seems the only way you can get it is from a old beta toy (Senior Funpickle???) or pay a fortune for it.  Now if I had a million currents I would think about getting that musicblock in heartbeat because I love the song!

  • I'd happily loan out my GNG and fun pickle, but I don't know how to guarantee it would come back...

I play for fun, to share, to leave stuff hidden around. Cant seem to keep the currants. I want to gather all the rare things and cuddle them.

  • I'm slowly working on my icon collection.  Three down, eight to go.  I also like to wander, dropping booze in hiding places or putting meals in treetops away from marauding piggys.  I drop a lot of mabbish coffee because I like the name and the real-life drink.  Lately I've been thinking of making and releasing animals for something different to do.

If you gave me a million currants I would buy shrine powder and diamonds to finish off my icons. :-)

  • Oooh, that's another thing! Eventually, I want to absolutely fill my house with gems and sparkly and shiny things.

  • A RL friend and I, who live in different cities and can't see each other often, are racing for achievements. She can play more often (or at least check in more often) than I can, so I have to be strategic in how I use my time (sequence of houses owned, working on multiple achievement lines at the same time, etc)

It's fun--to be honest, I don't think I would still be engaged without challenging competition.

  • My current goals are collect all Icons (currently 7 out of 11!), collect all Cubimals only by buying them from the Toy Vendor, and afterwards I'm going to start working through the achievements. I also strive to always be on top of the leaderboard for travelers so I'm always keeping an eye out for street projects and new locations.

My day to day goals change depending on how I feel. Sometimes I'll just cook or make drinks to sell other days I just try to nibble all piggies on Groddle.

I don't really role play anything, my character is based on the idea of the Trickster archetype but that's pretty much who I am anyway.

  • How I want.
But more or less, it's a play how I feel, and learn how I go.

  • The thing I like about Glitch is that, any time I log in, there are three or four different projects I could be advancing and having fun with. Learning a new skill or doing the quest for an old skill, planting and harvesting, visiting friends, buying or selling at auction, building my xp to level up, grinding for the currants I plan to spend on more cubimals, etc. etc. In a way, most of these (aside from friendtalk in chat or on forums) reduce to some very cleverly coded integer score-counts that TS found ways to make fun for me.

I think the DNA quests are a cool way to get me moving outside the places I already know. I like it that, unlike the ghost quest, they entice us to places outdoors with plenty of sunshine.

  • Depends on how much time I have and how many currents.

If short on time - harvest and take care of animals, cook, and crush whatever back stock of rocks I have setting around, or TP out and mine till my energy is gone.

If I've got a few hours - fireflies and barnacle, jellies, and collecting dirt.

    1,000,000 currents = 200 cubimals :)
Posted 12 months ago by BlackWolf Subscriber! | Permalink
  • today, i am going to harvest and sell until i have 250k.

    oh, look! some fireflies!

ad then i was on my way to hunt some more barnacles because crystals are pretty and i got distracted by something and went guanotapping and then i decided to go raise some herbs but then i thought i'd exit the world and practice horn and then suddenly i was in the kitchen making lavender caramels and now i think it's dinneertime but i'm checking the forums when what i relly meant to do was  use the bathroom and change into exercise clothes but then i had an art project to do and maybe on my way downstairs i'll bring my laptop and get going on those 250k currants...

  • I love my house, so there are days when I just hang out there and cook, harvest, and just putter around. Sometimes I wander, do some mining if I'm trying to earn currents or favor, enjoy the beautiful scenery, go sky jumping in Ix, hide items here and there, and just have a relaxing time of it.

I do like doing quests and achieving goals, but I don't stress about it. I'm not single minded about it and I won't be upset if I don't get all the badges. Low key and stress free is the way I like to play.

I also hang out with friends and do more social things with them.

  • How I play: drunk and wearing a robe.

Play style: casual, shy, friendly, helpful, erudite.  At first my favorite thing to do in Glitch was to explore.  Now I've seen most of the streets (803 out of 825 that count) and have a lot of the skills, so I've moved on to exploring the Glitch groups and the forums.  I've had a lot of fun having playful banter with people at parties, in group chat or mining.  I like a friendly heated discussion as long as it's mature and productive.

Is Crag an extension of Robert, or does Robert role-play Crag?  Yes to both.  Crag is a character I have been role-playing since I first logged in to LambdaMOO in 1992, but we're very similar.  The main difference is that he's an avatar.  He's never done anything I object to, and he's no better than me either.  I think of Crag as being his own person, but he differs from me so little that in practice it doesn't matter.  I would like to participate in a world which is somewhat more role-play oriented, but think a world like that is going to have to be set up to make that clear from the beginning.  Eve Online (which I don't play) seems like an example of the kind of game which makes the distinction clear.  I could go on at length, but the booze hasn't kicked in yet...

What would you do with a 1,000,000 currant windfall?  This is a somewhat strange question to me because to me currants represent the time and effort of other Glitchen.  This isn't entirely true yet since there's still stuff that can only be obtained from vendors, but those days are numbered.  Eventually the only reason to spend currants will be to obtain the services of Glitches.  "I COULD spend an hour mining... OR I could buy an hours worth of rock at auction."  The happy part of this equation is that since there are no real penalties in Glitch, nobody is forced to "work", and anything up for sale was probably created through rewarding game play.  In other words, "miners gonna mine."  People who like mining get the extra bonus of not having to do the stuff they don't like because they can purchase the things they want with the proceeds from their mining.  I think what I would probably do is spend the entire thing on party boxes and then hand out the party boxes to people who demonstrate an interest in and knack for entertaining other Glitchen.  That seems like it would make the most people the happiest.

  • I really like mining and advancing my cooking. I like learning all the skill and waiting impatiently for them to finish so I can use them. I finally got my 50k house so that quest is over. Now I grow my crops, cook and sell some things I have too much of. Basically my main goal over all is to learn all the skills.

Crag: Hm. Thank you for the long and reasoned answer! :)

  • SK: they're in the pans now setting. tomorrow i will turn them out and cut and wrap them.

i confess though that i am disappointed that lavender is so newly the "in" thing. it used to be MY thing.

last week i made molasses taffy.
and before that, apple caramels made with feral apples.

    sure, i'll share.

  • ...aaaaaaa I'm going to your house for Christmas. Those all sound amazing. Since it's not possible (yet) to send candy over the Internet, could I get the recipes?
Posted 12 months ago by Shiromisa Kaya Subscriber! | Permalink
  • flask, that's hilarious. Me too.
Yeah, my glitch is pretty much an extension of myself. I do whatever I enjoy, love the community aspect of the game. I spend a good deal of time in Ajaya Bliss. I'm an explorer. When I'm bored I hop the subway and get off somewhere. I get more skills than I can use and try to keep up with all of them, but there's always one I need that I don't have. I'm always running out of things. Can't save currants for anything. Then I run to the vendor but get sidetracked along the way... I love Ur.

  • I run around finishing quests, collecting, mining, cooking, etc.

Lately, my favorite thing to do has been to fill a generic bag with stuff, then run around handing items to people and running off.

  • @ flask  : Do I hear the making of a glitch recipe book ?
Posted 12 months ago by BlackWolf Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Today - just wandering around the ancestral lands collecting as much grain from the plethora of chickens there as possible.  =)

Usually - mine like hell and then sell to the vendor for profit.  My currant goal (get it?  currant? current? lol) is to get to 1 mil. currants.  But that's in the far future.  I'm not even quite at 100k again yet.

I love hiding things in random places and dropping items all over Ur, along with happy notes that make people smile.  I love making new friends and hanging out in Global (was online chatting with a friend when I got booted and can't get back in-world at the moment - so if you're reading this you know who you are and I'm sorry I left so suddenly).

So yeah.. I don't think I have a general play style.  I just like meeting new people and doing nice things for strangers. <3

  • If I came upon one million currants all at once, I would hoard them.  I would sit upon my hoard and be smug to myself.  "I have a million currants," I would say, and the words would issue from my lips like sulfur smoke.  But I would not be satisified to stop there.  I would take my fancy pick and continue to deplete the caverns, selling stacks of fifty of this kind of rock or fifty of that kind of rock, living off of the raw meat and butterfly milk that my cramped livestock tithe into my collectors hourly.  I would fill my cave.  The rube would come, but I would shrug him off; "You want what?  A bean?  And I suppose you're making yourself a stew?"

My one goal in life is to live amidst the majestic chicken prides of Kajuu.  I would like to see thirty or forty of them take down a gazelle before I die.  It would make me feel more alive.

(I think I do roleplay.  I can't possibly be this loopy and bewildered in real life.)

  • I love how freeform Glitch is. I love that everyone finds something they like to do, and we all play the game differently.
I like to visit the crabs and play music for them, and then steal their headphones while they're not looking. >:3
I drop things in hard to see places all the time, as well as deliver milk to the houses on random blocks.
Sometimes I stalk the herb gardens, and when someone isn't paying attention or is afk while their crop has grown, I harvest it and then give it to them.
I like playing little games on my block, like strategically dropping green veggies so that they blend in with the foilage. Like a scavenger hunt. :D
Once I dropped a bunch of fried eggs on my doorstep, and wrote a note saying that my house had been egged, and asked my neighbors to help 'clean it up.'

Yup. I love creative fun, and giving people things. Getting rich isn't a big goal for me. I bulk sell Meat to the Tool Vendor to fund my fun. That's all. (:

If I were given 1 mil currants, I'd save it for the future housing update, in case we need to buy things to build the houses with. :3 Or if I was too lazy to farm for all the things.
