Boost real game economy

Right now it is possible to buy alot of things from vendors. This makes many skills and activities not so fun. My idea is to make Glitch economy like in a real world. To do so we need following:

- Remove from vendors all stuff which can be made.
- Remove from vendors all ingredients that can be mined, harvested etc.
- Stuff selled to vendors appears on them(same vendor) with price calculated depending on market and place.
- Give to players or sell only a set of starter tools which are not repairable.
- Give to players or sell only a set of low volume foods and drinks which are good for starter phase.
- Leave economy to self regulate.
- Give some kind of a rating to sellers and buyers in auctions.
- Give possibility to put a price(bigger or lower) which you want to buy auctioned stuff.

This way we will have a miners, gardeners, engineers etc etc players who will see actually a point of providing basic resources. Second layer of players will make more complex goods with first tier materials. Some people can do all activities ofc, but making in bigger volumes or buying alot from specific player can give you lower prices and thus making your goods less priced and giving you more profit.

Right now vendors provide relatively cheap prices and put a stopper to the market.

  • From quite a long experience with World of Warcraft, where economy is a lot like ieti suggests, I'd say this is a good model for a game.

Of course, Glitch would be very different from what it's now. A bit more hardcore, among other things.

    My vote: +1

  • On the "remove form vendors all stuff that can be made" point: there would be an exception to Gardening Vendors, right? Because their biggest products are seeds, but you can get seeds from piggy plops...

I wonder how Glitch's economy would work, without all the craftable items in vendor catalogues. I think one of Glitch's biggest draws is how easy it is to get started in the game. If this goes overboard then a lot of prospective players will be lost.

  • I would change that a bit to say, let vendors sell any tool, but only an unrepairable, basic version of that tool and let tinkerers craft "fancy" versions of all tools. That way new players can buy any tools they need to get started with a skill from vendors.

  • I vote YES with both hands for a player-based economy! :)

The basic tool versions have to be limited in some way. Or crafted tools have to be boosted in some way.
Also, repairing a crafted tool must to be a lot tougher or else the crafting business will be a limited to the flow of new players.
I guess this is an issue for other sectors as well..
