X v. % (Quoin Multiplier Upgrade)

Looking on my profile, I have a Quoin Upgrade Multiplier of 18.9x

However, the Quoin values don't appear to be multiplied by itself 18.9 times, or even by a value of 18.9 . . . . it doesn't even appear to be multiplied 1.189% (which would mean that each 100% upgrade is REALLY adding 1%, which is just nonsensical).

My current iMG quoin value is 23. Were it actually multiplied, it would mean the base value, factored to 18.9 (x^18.9), the base value is 1.180. If it were multiplied by 18.9, it would be x*18.9, it would put the base value at 1.217. I seem to remember the quoins being worth more than that even when I started as a newbie glitch. And if it were percentage (x*1.189) would have the base value = 19.34 . . and I remember them being lower than that last week before the upgrade.

SO which is it? Because at a minimum, the terminology is confusing, and its hard to understand whether to buy an upgrade when the terminology doesn't make sense at all. If I increase my quoin multiplier by 100% -- which is what the cards advertise -- it should DOUBLE THEIR VALUE. It hasn't done that for me, and it's hard to understand how it works in reality since that isn't the effect.

  • This is just me thinking out loud, and could be completely incorrect, but I think that the base value for iMG coins is a little bit higher than of other Quoin types. For example, my Muliplier is 23.2x.  I get 23 currants, mood or energy from Quoins, so that makes sense, but I get 28 iMG.

I agree that buying a 100% increase should double your multiplier.  That would make the high prices make more sense.

  • It would obviously be more accurate to say "Add .5 to your current quoin multiplier" since that is what the effect seems to be . . .instead of "increase your quoin multiplier by 50%"

  • You have a quoin multiplier of 18.9.

Therefore, you get 18.9 times more from each quoin than you would have received if you had a multiplier of 1 (if the underlying quoin would have been worth 3 to you, you'd instead get 56.7, which is rounded to 57).

Quoins are not all worth 1 to begin with (though fast-spawning quoins with a value of 1 are the most common). And, the amount of iMG you get is affected by your mood: if it is high, you get extra imagination; if it is low, you will received a reduced amount.

  • I have a quion multiplier of 13.5 right now. I have upgraded it a couple of times, up from 12 point whatever. I get 13 or 14 whatevers from normal quions, so I assume someone with a multiplier of 1 would get 1 whatever from each quion? It sure is agonizing to spend all that imagination adding a fractional multiplier which barely (if at all) affects the amount gained from each normal quion.

EDIT: aw, Stoot confirmed my suspicions while I was writing this.

  • Quite right, Little Miss Giggles.

  • I am crap at maths..all I know is that I've bought a load of the upgrades for my quoins allowing me to get 60 for the IMG quoins and 50 for energy and mood.  I would be interested to know if there is an upper limit to this particular upgrade.

Edit..my quoin multiplier is currently at 50.3x

  • I agree with Shep.  Prices for these upgrades are hugely overinflated compared to the actual benefit that you get, and the wording with the percentages is very misleading.  Not quite sure why you guys are so resistant to the idea of saying "Add 1.0 to your multiplier" instead of "Increase your multiplier by 100%"

  • I understand the relationship between mood and quoin value (low mood = lower return). But I'm saying that, common parlance of "increase x by 100%" is to double said X value.

    1
    2
    4
    8
    16
    32
    etc....

It doesn't seem to actually do that. Or does it (and I'm just missing something)?

It appears that what it actually does is ADD 1.0 (for 100%) or .5 (50%) when you purchase the associated upgrade.

  • The base of a quoin is 1.

  • BumbelB 2na: It says "Add 50% To Your Quoin Multiplier" which, granted, is not the best explanation … but it's very different than "Increase Your Quoin Multiplier by 50%" (it only said that for a few hours after launch).

And, I promise we will make it less confusing. It's not that we're unaware, it's just that there are many constraints and scheduling compromises and it's a complicated project: we will get to it as soon as possible.

  • Yes, Palindrome, we know that, but the wording is still misleading.  It doesn't say "Increase the base multiplier value by 100%," it says "Increase your Multiplier by 100%"

And the difference between "Increase by 50%" and "Add 50% to" is frankly semantics to most people.  But thank you for the reassurance that this is being looked at.

  • Fair enough, Stoot.

(I realize that you can't roll out things perfectly and fix everything the instant you discover it. So good on you for at least acknowledging it.)

  • Aurora Dellaterra, if you're seeing "Increase your multiplier by 100%" in the game, please submit a bug report from inside the game with the upgrade window open (that will automatically generate a screenshot). I can't imagine why you'd see that (it was changed last week) unless you haven't redealt or purchased that card since we changed it?

  • As I said above, the difference between "Increase by 100%" and "Add 100% to" is purely semantics to most people who aren't looking at it in very much depth.  I know the difference, and I'm aware of how the mechanic currently works, I'm just saying that new players/players buying their first multiplier upgrade will likely still be mislead by using percentages at all.

  • Two ideas that were suggested in LH this morning for improving the presentation of quoin multiplier cards:
     - present the number on your profile as a percentage (similar to the brain capacity time penalty)
     - reword the cards to say "add 1x to your quoin multiplier"

I think it's the current mixture of percentages, additions and multipliers that's adding to the confusion.

  • Aurora Dellaterra, TS hasn't expressed any reluctance thus far to changing the wording on the cards.

(And shortly after your post, stoot said they'd be changing it to make more sense. Yay!)

  • Snazzlefrazz: yep, that makes sense. I don't think they will be really clear until they show your current multiplier and what it will be afterwards. We will make that change as soon as we are able.

  • Snazz - thanks for saying what I've been trying to say in a way that was clearly more understandable XD

I feel discouraged about posting in the forums because I just come out looking like an ass. *sigh*

  • I will say that I *don't* think the cards are particularly overpriced, not when you consider that you are carrying that multiplier with you day after day, week after week, month after month, for lord knows how many quoins.

  • I've decided not to worry about it.  I add to the multiplier with cards, and I'll get some amount more than the last time I hit a particular quion location.  Good enough for me. :)

Thanks for the awesome cards for this stoot and devs. :)

  • Sweet - the ability for upgrade card text to be personalized and show actual numbers that apply to the user's situation... that would really be awesome and instantly remove any doubt with quoin multipliers, brain capacity, energy tanks...

(And I think my wording was almost as confusing as the current one - I like the idea of "increase by" rather than "add")

  • I'm so totally confused by all of this.  I've gotten down to just buying what ever is cheapest as I have no idea what the next plan will have and what I will need regarding upgrades.I just know I had worked up to level 51 and now am a level 37 and have been ever since the change no mater what I do.  Yes I have increased my mood and energy but what good has that done me I have a face that scowls at me with black lips even when I have ate and drank everything I had plus mediated.  I realize this is a growing stage but this particular stage is really ugly.

I just added up what the "upgrade" for quinon's I spent 428000 IMG for a total upgrade of 24.4x.  What exactly did I get when I purchased these upgrades, I haven't a clue
