Walkglitch© music sequencer

Here is a quick mockup for a "walk-trough" music sequencer
i.eho.st/pjs9f88p.jpg

The idea is to have an option to set a particular note to an object, then drop several of them as a melody on the ground. Fellow glitches would then hear the song as they pass by.
Here I chose some small shiny objects, because they don't have any use atm. They could be turned into a "music rock" with a tinker tool for example.

Each note is activated when the object highlights, so it all depends how fast or where you walk.
Actually, everything that passes by could activate the notes, so it would work with cubimals as well.
A more complex approach would then be to use those cubimals (instead of childish races) to play more interesting pieces of music. You would be able to set a program, a bit like for garden gnomes, and assign it to the toy, depending of it's features (a piggy may only go straight, but flying cubimals could jump back to the start and do loops). For example, you would tell you pig cubimal to go back and forth five planks to play a beat, while your butterly cubimal would fly ten planks left to right in a loop to play the melody.

I've seen amazing music interfaces in other games, so I hope we can have this kind of stuff in Glitch as well. That concept doesn't seem too hard to implement as most of the mechanics are already in-game, and I know that Stoot is very interested in collaborative step-sequencers.

I would never leave the game again, I would be forever alone after my fiancee left me, and I would gain 100 pounds, because this is THAT AWESOME.

  • Also along the lines of your small shiny objects idea, there could be Sound Sacks, in the same way there are Sets of Musicblocks. Each Sound Sack of 12 (if they use the 12 note Western scale) is a specific instrument or sound. So all notes in Sound Sack 1 sound like a Cello, all notes in Sound Sack  2 sound like a Harmonica, all notes in Sound Sack 3 sound like a Kitten miaowing....etc.

Different notes of the same or of different Sound Sacks could be stacked on top of one another to create intervals or even chords that are activated when someone walks by. ETA: and of course these notes could be placed in sequence to could form melodies.

Rather than having to find/discover/harvest all of the sounds maybe this is something we could learn to make?

And/or rather than having Sets of 12 different Notes, perhaps each specific Sound Sack, Harmonica for example, has just 1 small shiny object which has a menu that allows you to set it to a specific note. To create another object from that Sack with the same or a different note just use your Imagination and voila.

will probably have to bump it every 29 days for a few months though,
as we still gotta figure out how many "Soon" you can fit in a "Someday" in the stootian terminology :p

but yes, great news still !

  • Passing by streets like this one, I feel like you could actually set up a different note to all of the items in the game
You would have to travel the world and collect a lot to be able to create the most interesting melodies
Then you could only hear the music walking by with a special drinking buff

  • Piano keys.  they are laid on the ground flush with the path of travel and can be configured to play a single note.  Larger (more expensive) keys play a chord.   Crafted from 2 boards and one moly ingot.  They are locked to the owner and are for home streets or yards, not Ur.

  • Good ideas guys!
This got me thinking you could have another use than a melody on the ground,
If you drop those items as a "piano" layout, then you can invite your folks to play live together, jumping all around on the notes^^
